We've had them American Home Shield not just for this house, but also for the previous one, and we've been extremely satisfied. I understand American Home Shield's business model and it works. They make most their money on referral. They don't make a whole lot of money off of selling the home warranty policy. The best thing for us is that it ensures that we get a good company to do the work. One of the things I've discovered is the people that do the work through American Home Shield are really good people. In fact, I just had a garbage disposal installed by a plumbing company and they were great.
What we're really buying is somebody goes out and negotiates favorable terms with the people that do the work. Over the years, we had at least one air conditioner compressor, a dishwasher, a furnace, and a hot water heater replaced. Recently, we had a bad fitting on our water heater. We're in Madisonville, which is kind of a little small town. It's an hour away from any large town, so it's hard to get service work out here. But American Home Shield got somebody out pretty quick, and they did a great job.

AHS has been good. TWC was fine when they came for my recent claim. The guy did a very good job. I had a problem with my doorbell and my bathroom electrical outlet. In the bathroom, they didn't have to really do anything because they said there wasn't anything wrong with it. With the doorbell, they had to replace something in the basement. The tech was very nice, good and pleasant.
I had another claim for my washer. General Electric Appliance came out last Monday. They had to order the parts. The parts came, and they were supposed to come back yesterday to make the repair. But they didn't come or call, so they had me at home waiting all day yesterday. I called them twice, they kept saying they were coming. Today, I called them this morning. They said they don't know why they didn't come and now they can't come out for another two weeks.

I have a home warranty with American Home Shield. My Stove/Range large burner started shooting flames and stating on high temperature in October of 2020. I put in a service repair. Paid the $100 service fee and Sears Appliance came out. After two months wait some repairs were done. In June of 2021 the same large burner started shooting flames and remaining on, on high temperature no matter how I try to turn it off. The oven also stopped working. I called and reported this to American Home Sheild. I was told that the service contract with Sears has been closed. I was told that I would have to open a new service contract and pay another $100 service fee for a new contractor to come out. I did this.
Artic Appliance came out and did an estimate, back in the end of June. Almost six months later. Every month my monthly plan fee is being taken out of my account by AHS and no repair. I've been shuffled from the Escalation, to Authorization, to Customer Service and back around to the Technician about ten times each, after waiting on hold for over two hours at a time to speak with someone. Almost six months and still being shuffled around and around and around, with monthly fees being faithfully withdrawn and no repair. Six months. Six months. Six months.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

Every time we went to the thermostat, it would say our system is cutting on, but we wouldn't hear or feel anything. Cole from Accent Air went to the attic and checked our heating out. He fixed the problem pretty quickly and let me know what was going on. He was really thorough and he did a good job. He gave me a few tips here and there for the off-season and what to do.
It's not cheap to repair an AC unit or a heating unit. A home warranty is a must-have in the event that something is really wrong and we can't afford it at the moment. Submitting my claim to AHS was simple and they got to me pretty quickly. It's an excellent service and it's not costing an arm and a leg to pay for, so I'm happy with it.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.
We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We had the refrigerator water dispenser stopped working. So, the pad needed to be replaced. Then, on the hood over our cooktop, the light stopped working on one of the switches. The company that came out through American Home Shield seemed very professional and they had to come a few times because the parts weren't quite right, but they seem to work until they got the job done. Now, they did not fix my hood. I'm not sure what happened, but they weren't able to get the light to work.
When they replaced one of the units, they replaced the pad of the insert for the water thing. They actually got it in black, and it was normally in silver, but the tech told me that that appliance was so old, and that was all he could get. He came back twice for the hood because the first control panel he bought was straight instead of curved. It needed a curve to fit the bow of the hood. He rewired it to the old wiring and it still did not work. But he seemed very professional, he was in and out and cleaned up after himself.
That's exactly what we like to hear. We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great week.

We were told by a friend to get American Home Shield. I tried to file a claim with them, but they denied it after I paid the $100 to have a service guy come out. The guy who came out to do the service never even checked my system. He said to tell American Home Shield that it was going to be more than it actually cost to fix it and that I wanted to reroute it.
American Home Shield denied it because they said there was a crack in my plumbing. I said, “There's no way you can know there's a crack in my plumbing. The guy never even checked.” It was in my slab, so there was no way the guy could even see it. He would have to shoot a camera down it to see it. I told them I wanted a refund of the $100 but the rep said that they couldn't refund. I complained enough and they finally refunded me a portion of it ‘cause she said a portion of it went to the guy. It was a big mess and I wasn't happy about that. Also, it's been really hard to get in touch with a person. If you try and call, you gotta jump through hoops trying to get in touch with a real person.

I was disappointed in the first call that we had out. It was supposed to have been for a “tune-up,” and the guy that American Home Shield sent should have found the problem. We had to pay $75 for this supposed tune-up and he didn't even do anything. Our heater completely went out and something was wrong with the circuit board, so the motor was running for hours. In order to make it stop, we had to unplug the unit.
The last technician that came out said that it looked like, at some point, the circuit board had been exposed to moisture, so it wasn't making a good connection. It was totally fried, so he replaced the circuit board and it's been running fine since. This technician was very professional, nice, knowledgeable, explained things to us really well, and wasn't the least bit intrusive with us and the house. He was fantastic, so I have no complaints about the work that he did or the repair and it's continued to work. The second guy that came out was worth it, but the first guy, the money should be refunded.

I called American Home Shield and told them that the water heater wasn't working. The process was very easy and they told me who was coming out. When the tech came, he took care of the problem. He said that there was a bunch of cracks on the there and he did what he had to do. I was very happy with the service and all in all, I love American Shield. At first I was kind of shaky about dealing with them but I tell people about them and I appreciate them so much. Being a single parent and trying to do things in my house alone, I can't really give them enough stars. And because I’m so grateful, I wish they had more things they can insure. But they don't. Despite that, when I was having some other issues, it took a while for them to figure it out and I was frustrated, but I didn't give up and the work still got done.

Koalafied Heating & Air came out to fix the furnace as the blower motor was not working. The tech found out what it was and he went back to get the part. He came back the next day, put the part in, and he accommodated us when we were available. When I talked to him on the phone, he seemed very professional. I'm a big fan of the AHS warranty in general and we haven't had any issues with it. It's nice to know that it gives peace of mind if something happens. We've had some other issues before and they came out and fixed it. We pay the service fee and then if we didn't have that, then we have to pay more than that service fee, and it could be hard financially.

My washer was throwing out something black and we thought it was oil. But it turned out that the inside of the washer and around the drum were really dirty. So the tech assured us to clean it really well and it should be fine. So it was more like a lesson learned kind of experience versus him has actually fixing anything. But it was still worth the $100 I paid for the tech to come out. I took the washer apart and cleaned it out. He showed me how to do it. And we have not had any issues with the staining of the clothes. We've also been able to wash the clothes over and get most of the stains out of the other clothing.
The claims process was pretty quick, though it would have been quicker had I been home, but I was in the mountains when the tech called me. So there was poor communication, because I lost the call in the mountains. But other than that, AHS was great and I hope that I continue to have good service with them. If I had family members that bought a home recently, I would push for them to use AHS as their home warranty for their appliances.

The service of AHS has been fine. I’ve been happy with the service so far. My recent claim was for my washer and dryer. My dryer wasn't drying right. They got a part for it. They came and set it up. It took a little while to get the part. But he said, the parts for the washer were so expensive that it would be easier for him to just replace it. I just went ahead and went to Lowe's and picked one out, and then they reimbursed me. Baskett's Repair was the one that I had here working on anything and they’re always really great whenever I have a problem.

If there's an issue, I have someone to call and not have to worry about going through the phonebook and trying to look up someone to see if they're a 5- star. I called American Home Shield for my air conditioner. I had this pest control company put some mesh around on the back for some rooms when getting in the house and they put some in on the pipes, so that was a legitimate complaint for the contractor. I chiseled it out and got it all cleared. Then the thermostat wire was broken. The tech said that one of the rodents evidently ate one of the wires, so that was a pre-existing condition and he couldn’t fix it, which wasn’t true because I started the program on September 11th and it wasn't until the middle of October that my air conditioning broke down. I wasn't too happy about that.
American Home Shield said that if they could get another contractor, I'd have to pay another $100. If they had the same results, I'd still have to pay the next extra $100. So, my air conditioning is still not fixed and I’m alone. I’d like them to fix it. I don’t see where they have a right to say it was a pre-existing condition when it clearly was not. Now, I got to get another contractor on my own to come in and fix it, which is going to cost me a lot more than the $100 that I would have to pay with American Home Shield.

I am totally unsatisfied with AHS. First of all, I asked them to come out and do a dishwasher that does not clean my dishes. I've proved that to them by washing them and showing them that the grease was still on them. I paid $75 for that. They looked at it and did something that made it still not clean any of the dishes on the top rack. AHS got another person to come out. He said it probably needs a part or a new dishwasher.
When I called American Home Shield yesterday about the third time, they said that the second person that came out from GE did not give a report. They couldn't come out until the report came back from them, which is not my fault. They said they would reach out to GE and get back to me. But, they couldn't reach GE. I haven't heard back from them.
I also had a washing machine claim. I had them come out and they made me pay more than $75 for a washing machine. I had to pay $85, which was not anywhere in the contract. It only said $75. The tech never filed a report either from Sears. He contacted them via email because they wouldn't answer their phone to do the report. The Sears tech told me that it's meant to leak. That was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. He showed me, “Here’s where this water is. This is the overflow.” At that point, I was dealing with some medical problems with my husband, so I couldn't fight with him right then and there.
I called him back and I said I need a second opinion. He said, “If there's a second opinion and they come out and say the same thing, it'll cost you another $75.” I said I don't want to send in another $75 because it's ridiculous. I don't want the same guy coming back to me and telling me that I have to buy a pan to put under my washing machine because it leaks. I never heard of that. I called another company that had nothing to do with AHS, somebody that knows Maytag. They said they had never heard of that in their life.
I also had a guy have to come out and clean my furnace, and they told me I had carbon monoxide leaking. I had AHS's techs come here for another $75. Now, I have spent 75, 75, and 85 and that guy told me, “It's not really that bad. There's nothing we can do.” I have paid AHS and all I've had is a runaround and no one has fixed anything.

I've been with American Home Shield for 35 years and in the last four years, it has been bad. I'm dissatisfied with them. They are fast to take our co-pay, but they are not fast getting the contractors out to us. When the dryer vent went out, they wanted to do a video feedback to talk to me about the dryer vent. I just wanted the heat element fixed. Also, my sewer got blocked and they could only do what is under the house. They don't go to the street. So, they sent a guy out, he tried to get me to buy $10,000 for the sewer repair. I called the Sewer District in our location and they said I had a block from one net to another, and I ended up paying $1,200.
The air conditioner needed to be replaced for the last four years. I had to pay for Freon every year when contractors come out and service. Freon is now illegal in California. I don't even know how they are servicing it. I talked to the air conditioning people and they said, “Your air conditioner almost has to blow up before American Home Shield will cover it.”
AHS gets contractors who have no experience. They pay so lousily that the only contractors that will work with them are brand-new contractors who have very little experience. If it wasn't for the fact that Fidelity wouldn't cover the air conditioner now because we know it's using Freon, I would switch and get rid of them. I have a few pieces of property. So, the one on Raj court, I'm not going to renew with them. Do not buy AHS' products.

It's a better deal to be insured than to be having to bear a $2,000 water heater. Recently, Price Right Plumbing came for the water heater. The pipe leaked. The plumber checked everything on it said everything was fine. He was very polite and apologized that he couldn't figure out where the leak is coming from. He was there to look at the water heater and it would have had to be another ticket in for a water leak.
Also, I had one or two incidents where it took ages for things to get done. It was during covid and people were very reluctant to go into people's homes. But a better follow up would have been better because I had to be proactive and make the calls when there is another technician coming out and I didn't hear anything back from American Home Shield.

The tech that came for my dishwasher did very well. He was a very nice guy and he fixed it with no problems. He knew exactly what was wrong with it. He took care of it. The person before them that worked on my refrigerator was not good though. He was out here three times. Finally, I requested somebody else to come. Sometimes I get people that come here and I pay the $75 and they can't do anything. Then I'm just out $75. They should let us know ahead of time and not charge unless they actually do something. That's very frustrating when someone says, "That's not our problem. We don't cover that because it's hit by lightning or something."
I'm thinking of dropping AHS when they come back around in January when I'm up. Because I pay $800 a year and I'm lucky if they come out once or twice. I could pay $800 and buy a new dishwasher or put it towards a brand new refrigerator. It doesn't make sense sometimes. They don't do anything for me. I have no problem replacing them with a different company if I feel that I have no attachment to them.

American Home Shield was very responsive. But in my last incident that happened on October the 12th with the hot water heater, it took over two and a half weeks to get the hot water heater replaced. That was almost three weeks with cold water. Also, I got some hardwood floor damage from the hot water heater leaking. I was really frustrated because two days into it, I asked if I could purchase a hot water heater and American Home Shield could do a buy-out. They said that was not an option and that they found a contractor that could order one. I kept calling every two or three days to get an update. A little bit less than two weeks in, I was told I could do what I initially suggested. I said, "I waited two weeks. I might as well just wait for you guys to get one now. It’s useless now.”
The contractor stayed in communication with me. Whenever I called and I got an update, they were honest with how long it was gonna take. They called me to reschedule if the hot water heater didn't come in. I am enjoying my service with American Home Shield. It is beneficial because they replaced my hot water heater. They have been great to me because I've been with them for years. The service turnaround is normally very quick. I had a washer go out in September and they authorized a replacement right off the bat.

So far, I like American Home Shield. I found it convenient. The only thing we've done so far is rekey the locks, but it was fast and easy. We went to the website, chose a date then somebody emailed me with Rekey. That was decent. We're a bit remote here so there are very few dates to choose from, but it was fine.

I had a leak in the ceiling. I called AHS and somebody made the appointment over the phone. The experience with the rep was good. The techs that came were quick, efficient and friendly. It was my first time using AHS. It was quick and very helpful. Others should get AHS. Because with not knowing what was going on with the house, to have somebody that can easily point it out without you making a bunch of calls and research in places, it's a good approach to take.

I called American Home Shield for my thermostat needed to be changed, but the guy who came here did something in the basement and didn't change the thermostat. So, I called him back but he said it was too late. I waited too long. So, I had to call AHS again to put another claim in. The second time went good. The tech was in and out. He just changed out the thermostat and was here for 10 minutes. The furnace is working great. AHS is a very good company and I will let other people know about them. We've been happy with AHS. The people that they sent out have always been very professional, friendly and helpful. It's been good to have, in case something big happened. We had somebody for the dryer and then somebody for the toilet. The toilet, I knew what was wrong with it but just didn't wanna have to take the whole thing apart. He fixed it, looked at it in five minutes, and it was done, which saved us a couple of hours. We would have had to purchase a whole inside where he just put in the gasket that it needed. But at least it got fixed.

The response time to approve my claims has been quick and with the exception of one vendor, for the couple of years that I've had the service, every vendor has been worthy. They have done a good job. So, I'm happy with that as well. Airmax Heating and Cooling was one of the good ones. They were quick and solved my problems.

I'm a property manager and I've been in business for 30 years. It's very difficult to get any kind of repair people out at a property located in a rural part of the island, but having American Home Shield makes it very easy because they're responsible for getting vendors that will go out there. I have past dealings with other companies, and most of them only try to figure out ways where they don't have to pay the claim. We've been using American Home Shield for at least 25 and we've never had that problem with them, so it's good.

I had an issue with my furnace right when I first got American Home Shield. The tech was a lady and you don't see females in the trades a lot, so I was impressed with how much she knew. She was thorough and she explained things as she went. She fixed the issue and I had heat the very same day. I only waited a day or two, which wasn't long. With a different home warranty I had before, I waited a week.
When making a claim to American Home Shield, you just go online. But I'm older so I like to call. Their rep explained things and it wasn't cumbersome. She walked me through it and explained what coverage I would have as well as when the contractor would be out. If I had questions, they gave me their information. They sent me an email to follow up to let me know if someone had been assigned. I could always reach someone.
American Home Shield is reputable and they're a popular home warranty company. They work with contractors and that was a big thing for me. I always like who they sent out. Before, it wasn't an option to have my own person. American Home Shield could have been more money. Despite that, I probably would’ve still switched over because of the flexibility that they have that other companies don't have. Also, I pay half of what I was paying as far as my monthly payment. I was impressed.

I contacted AHS when I had an issue from the summer because my air conditioning went out. The techs replaced the board, but the person before them forgot to update the heating portion. So, they fixed the air conditioner but not the heater. They had to order a small part, the replacement part took two weeks, then it was good.
We also replaced our range about a year ago and for that claim, it would take me multiple hours on the phone sometimes and it took 17 hours to get something done. And it was silly because after you got through to American Home Shield's phone line, you couldn't get to the same person again. And to call them back would take another multiple hours wait time. I don't know if they fixed that or if that was part of the pandemic. But otherwise, everything online has been great and the claims process has been pretty easy.

From day one, the tech called and said I could get my house rekeyed. I asked if it was for free and they said there would be no charge at all as it comes with my home warranty. So, I got out there and he did it. Then he sent me a bill for $75. But I thought it was free. Then I called the plumber as the plumbing was clogged. The guy came out and he didn't have the right tools. Then I called the home warranty and I asked what I paid for a guy to come out here when he didn't do anything. He was also saying that the repair was not covered while AHS was saying that it was.
I told them that they needed to get someone out here but they just goofed around and I didn't have time for that. So, I had to pay 600 bucks out of my own pocket because the home warranty couldn't get their head out of their you know what. Then I had to argue with them forever that I wanted my $75 back for sending me a guy that wasn't prepared or had no a clue what was going on.
Then I called for the air conditioner and this was where it was all screwed up. The guy came out and said it was just dirty. But if it was dirty, it may mess up something and it may break our air conditioner. I said that didn't make sense. Why would he offer to clean it if he was going to break it. Then he said that he just did one and it broke right away. He also said that I needed some Freon and I told him to let me talk to my home warranty and see what they say because he was trying to charge me on services that he should have had to go through the warranty first.
When I went back out there, he put two screws back on but didn't put back half the screws that he took off. So the air conditioner was in pieces and the door fell off because he didn't put it back properly. I was calling the home warranty and told them that there was something wrong and that the guy didn't know what he was doing. I told them that they needed to send someone else out here to fix it. But 95% of their people are from the Philippines. They can speak in really good English, but they have no comprehension on what you're telling them. They're just so robotic and they read off a script. It's so bad. They’re really nice people but they don't understand besides what is on their script.
AHS also told me that they wouldn't charge me for the service if they sent out another tech because it was a second opinion. But for my air conditioner, every time someone came out, I was missing more parts and I had a different diagnosis seven times. I had one company come out three times and every one of their technicians gave a different diagnosis. And every time someone came out, they left it in pieces and in even worse condition. When the second to last people came out, they left all the caps off of the refrigerant tanks. Then, one company came out and said the couldn't submit the report because I needed to do a request for the heater. But I told them it was all one unit. But they said I needed to do a request to have the ductwork tech come out to have the ductwork reviewed. I then paid another $75 even though I didn't request for the service.
The techs started inspecting the whole house and trying to charge me all these things. And the home warranty told me that I needed to do this and this. It was costing me and it was a giant mess. They just started trying to rip me off again and they took me for $300. But it was supposed to get in the 30s tonight, and I have no heater or air conditioner. It's all busted. One of the companies turned it off and said it was unsafe to run. But one company came out and said it was perfectly fine. Then he said that someone needed to come out here and turn this thing back on and fix it. And someone needed to come out here and put all the screws back in. The guy came out and put the screws back in, but he took them out of other spots of the air conditioner. Now the whole air conditioner is falling off the main electrical panel because there are no screws in it.
My experience was garbage and I'm still trying to get my $300 back but no one's going to give me my money back. And I must have spent 15 hours on the phone with AHS, going through agent to agent to agent. I also asked several times to send me to the cancellation department and this has taken over three months. But I've been told I couldn't cancel my policy. I was told everything and no one would do what I would ask. Then, I went on the Facebook thing and they deleted all the comments on their warranty because they were all bad. They'd make a post and everybody would start trashing the company, but they would delete them all. They got probably so many complaints, they stopped answering stuff through their private messaging on social media. They're a crooked company and their contractors are crooks.

American Home Shield's claims process is somewhat automated when I'm using the phone but they get back to me pretty quickly. I've done it four times over the last four years and I've not really had any problems with them. In general, the service companies that they use in my area and from out of town, but they're all extremely good and professional. In fact, that's one of their strengths and I've not had any issues with any of their contractors. The only problem is that it takes about a week to 10 days from the time I call an appliance issue in to the time I get it fixed. It takes a couple of days for them to schedule the initial service call and the variable is the parts. These companies do not stock any parts, so they have to order parts and that can take anywhere from a week to three weeks.
Most of the things that I've had to get repaired are either appliances that are not completely broken, so they're still usable in its mode. But the exception of that is the washer and dryer. For that one, the total time from initial call to final completion was a little long. It's very old and and at this point, they probably paid more money to fix it than to have replaced it. But it's always a sunk cost analysis, that they can't look at what they've already put into it. It's what's the next fix. But they pretty much have replaced every moving part in the dryer and the outside is getting kind of beat up. So, they keep things running to the point where they cannot probably get parts.
The last service I had was just a couple of days ago and the tech was very nice. He even helped clean up behind the refrigerator and some of it wasn't even his doing. But we were in the midst of cleaning up because some defrosted water had gotten down there, so we were cleaning up the defrosted water. But at the same time, he was picking up all the trash that everybody had behind the refrigerator, which you never know about.

I liked the idea that for 100 bucks, you can get almost anything fixed with American Home Shield. But that didn't happen with our refrigerator. I'm really disappointed with that. We had a refrigerator that went out a couple of weeks ago. The water line froze in the door. The technician tried to get it unplugged, but there was a burst in the tubing in there. He called us back, and it would need a new door on. But then, they don't make the refrigerator anymore. So they said, “You’d have to replace the refrigerator.” We got the new refrigerator today, but American Home Shield only gave us 1,100 bucks for it. I didn’t realize what it cost to replace that refrigerator with the same quality one. It was 2,900 bucks. I’m very unhappy with the money we pay, the amount American Home Shield gave us wouldn’t cover anything close to the refrigerator that we had.
I’m okay with American Home Shield. But if you have a plumbing leak, you can't get 24/7 service because of the way they have it set up locally here. The plumbing company won't call you back. I had a problem on Sunday and I had to pay somebody else to come out and deal with it because no one called me back. Then on Monday, the plumbing company called me. I asked them, “Why didn’t you call over the weekend?” They said, “Oh, well that’s not our normal business hours.” That didn’t do me any good at all. It cost me 500 bucks.

The tech that came in was very knowledgeable. It didn't take any time for him to assess what needed to be done and had the issue fixed in less than 10 minutes. I'm happy to have American Home Shield and I just set up my renewal contract for them to extend the policy. I don't see myself having any home without having American Home Shield as my warranty company. But from a customer standpoint, it would be more beneficial if they try to add a little bit more clarity around the covered and non-covered options. Some things are a little bit vague and that leaves a technician to come out, make an assessment, submit it then it gets denied for not being a covered service. If some of us knew the services were not covered, we probably wouldn't call the home warranty company in the first place and end up spending that $75 fee for the technician to come out to do an evaluation.

I love AHS. It worked out well for me. It's nice to not have to worry about finding a plumber or an electrician. It's convenient. I had an electrician come over here one time because I had a noise that was coming from the vent on my air conditioner. We thought something went wrong with the air condition unit. The tech came and said, "Nah. Because your daughter's bed’s pushed up against the vent in the other room, so it was causing more suction as a result on the one in our room and it was making this loud noise. That's all it is."
A lot of times, I think AHS should do a little bit of research into these people. They're not trying to hire somebody off the street that is doing the work. And somebody's insured and that gives me a little bit more comfort too, because I know a lot of times when I call somebody, I don't ever ask that question 'cause I don't really think about it. Then hindsight being 20/20, if something was to happen, I would be stuck with having to pay extra because somebody didn't do the work right. But I won’t ever get rid of AHS.
I had this one guy one time that never came up and showed up for service. But then I never got my $75 back. I called American Home Shield about it and the money had already gone to this guy. That was one situation where I was like, “What do you do in a situation like that?” Because if they don't come out, you're not recouping that money. But that only happened to me one time.

I was upset for a while because I had a situation going on with my furnace. AHS was trying to say that it was not normal wear and tear and that they were not going to fix it. So, I had to call and I was on the phone for over an hour explaining to them it wasn't fair and they had been doing this and doing that for this long. But they had basically closed down my order and and said there's nothing else they could do. I had to go buy a air conditioner. I found a company myself and got my own second opinion. I then called AHS again a month and a half later. When I told them about it and let them know everything about my situation, that was when they said that the repair would be on them. This time, they would send their techs out for a second opinion. I talked to the right person and got me some help. But the other person who I was trying to talk to before wasn't good help.
When their second opinion came out, he came to tell me that the people that they had come out all those times put the wrong part in my furnace. He repaired and fixed that part, and everything is fine now. His name was Robert and l loved him. He really got to the problem as soon as possible and see what was going on.But I had to go through a whole lot. At the time, AHS was trying to completely block me out and I was about to cancel the warranty. But that was the first thing that that ever happened. Everything else I got from AHS was good. I had some service with a pipe with my toilet and they did that and I also got my faucet replaced in my kitchen.

Climate Control Heating and Air was out because the furnace wouldn't fire. It was throwing a code. The inducer motor seized up but I don't feel how it was addressed should have been the long-term solution for it. If it seized up, spraying WD-40 into it isn't going to solve it. It may happen again. I feel like it should be replaced. If you paid somebody $100 to come out and spray a couple of shots of WD-40 into your furnace, you'd be a little upset. Also, my husband told me they weren't fully stocked with their new van. If they're going out on a service call, they should have everything. The technician asked if we had WD-40 that he could spray in there. I would have given it to him if he needed it, but that was something I was paying for. They should have that. Also, if I'm paying for this, a couple of shots in the motor to make it turn again but for how long? In three months, am I going to have to pay another $100 to have them come out and replace this motor this time?
It was Tuesday when they came out and on Wednesday, I had called in to American Home Shield. I brought my concern to them about that. I told them everything that had gone on when the Climate Control was here. They were here for five minutes. I told the rep at American Home Shield, "I feel like the piece should be replaced, not just sprayed with WD-40." The rep told me there was no submission yet from Climate Control so they can't address any of my concerns yet. I also had Climate Control come out last summer and they did a repair on my air conditioner outside. The capacitor went bad. It was a faulty part that they had put in then they had to come out and put another one in. It must have been a bad part that they had to come out again because it continued to happen.
The people themselves are great. It's like a mom-and-pop shop compared to the big name heating and cooling companies. That doesn't bother me, but there are little things that bothered me about it that should have been done differently. I don't know if it would have been done differently if it was somebody else. But when they were out here last summer for the air conditioner, they had to take the back panel of the air conditioner off outside, and there were two screws that weren't put in that were laying on the ground after I went out so the panel wasn't even put on correctly. I picked them up and I put them on myself. I definitely do recommend American Home Shield. I just wish that my experiences with Climate Control and how things are going with them would be better.

He he defrosted the ice with a blower, cleaned it all out, took the ice out, secured the drawer on the side, and it's been working great ever since.
I have looked at other coverages, like Sears Home Services, and I'm not too happy with the customer service. But American Home Shield, every time I reached out to them, I've gotten nothing but excellent service. They respond quickly and the person comes out within 24 to 48 hours. Usually, they are able to diagnose it quickly, and sometimes, they are able to diagnose before they get here.
The first person that American Home Shield assigned for my refrigerator did not do the LG French doors. I had issues with two outdoor faucets and a washer drain pluggage. One faucet needed a new seal. It was leaking. The other faucet needed a retaining bolt because you're able to bring the spigot all the way out and then plug it. It comes apart from the faucet. I watched the tech when he was here, and he walked through what he was doing and what he did to fix it. We used to be with Old Republic Home Protection and when I would call that company, I'd be stuck going through electronic voice hell until I could finally get to somebody. But when we switched over to American Home Shield, all I had to do was log into a website, say that I've got this appliance issue. and the guy came out. It was very prompt. He looked at everything, figured out what needed to be ordered, then he came back and put the control board and another component in. Both of the light bulbs were burned out and I thought that I had to unscrew the screws. But the screws weren't for the glass that goes over it. So, he was very patient and super sweet. He explained it to me and showed me how to replace my lightbulbs. He also got the icemaker working again. And all was said and done in a week's time, which was fairly quick.
It's also nice that I don't have to look for c check to be able to pay a lot of the other contractors with American Home Shield. They would send me an invoice through their website and just like any online purchase, I would log in and pay my bill. So far, we have used three different companies and I would refer American Home Shield, hands down, every time. It’s just so much easier with them and it's like comparing apples and oranges. Theirs is just way better.

They never called us until late that night, even though AHS expedited it to an emergency because we had water running constantly. It was a Wednesday but they couldn't get to us till Monday. So when I called back, AHS got ahold of Nine Lines and they were out here the next morning.
For the most part, the claims process is easy. The hardest thing is when we've got something that needs to be expedited, whether it's running water or the air conditioning is out. Sometimes they would say that they would get to us within the next 24 or 48 hours. Then having to get it expedited can sometimes take a while. We had that a couple times. I usually ask to speak to a supervisor but it's a little more hassle in that respect. We've had things where it took almost a week to get anybody out here to try to fix it and that's frustrating. One time we had the freezer and the refrigerator go out and it took four days, and we lost everything in the freezer.
People should go with AHS and get a homeowner's warranty. It might seem a little costly but in the long run, all you need is one major claim and it pays for itself. We've paid more than the claims have ever been but it's awesome. We had a refrigerator completely go out and it couldn't be repaired, and AHS replaced it. We couldn't get the refrigerator just like we had and we had to pay extra but they reimbursed up to their set amount. One big thing that AHS can improve on is if they've got someone that has high end appliances and they have a receipt showing how much they paid for it, it'd be nice if they would replace it at that cost instead of having to take a much lower grade appliance or pay the difference. On some things, they have a maximum and that's fine. I understand that.
People should research how the warranty works with things such as a furnace or air conditioner. Ours went out completely and needed to be replaced but AHS depreciated it down to where they wouldn't pay anything for a new one. The old one was 20 plus years old and by the time they got through depreciating it, they were only gonna pay $200 on a 10,000 HVAC system. Other than that, American Home Shield has been great. I found out that other homeowner's warranties didn't depreciate but since we've been with AHS for so long, I wouldn't change anything. For the most part, they’ve been great.

We had one decent experience and one horrible experience with American Home Shield. Our air conditioner went out at the beginning of June, and it didn't get fixed until the end of September. I got the runaround every time I called. There were times where I called and had to be on hold. Once, it was four hours trying to figure out what the issue was. At first, they didn't order the right part. Then once they did, it was backordered. The air conditioning company that we were working with told me that if they could order it, they would have it within a week. But American Home Shield insisted on using theirs, probably because it's cheaper. It gets over 100 degrees where we live and we went the whole summer with no air conditioning.
It's really hard to get ahold of anyone that can help at American Home Shield. When I call customer service, all they do is tell me that they're sorry, but they can't offer me any explanation or tell me when the part would be there. They would offer to transfer me to the parts department then I would be on hold. Their departments don't talk to each other. Their rep can't just call the parts department, they only email each other. It seems ridiculous that in the year 2021, they don't have better systems to communicate with their departments. American Home Shield could have better customer service and provide answers instead of just saying they're sorry.
Finally, what got it done was I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and our state attorney general's office. As soon as I had received the confirmation emails for both of those, within a week, all of a sudden, the part was here. It shouldn't take customers having to do that. American Home Shield said that they would refund my $75 fee that we had to pay to have someone come out but they never did that. A month and a half into waiting, they said they would reimburse me for buying fans for our house. We had already purchased fans and I didn't save the receipts. They said they wouldn't give me the reimbursement without the receipts. The way that they do business seem very backwards.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

When I called about the problem with the icemaker, the young lady that answered the phone was very nice. The gentleman that came out to look at it and then he came out about a week later to fix it was great and very polite, too. AHS is great to have and great to use.

I haven't had any problems that American Home Shield hadn't come out to fix. They have been very quick on answering any questions or getting a technician out. I put in a service request because my water heater needed to be fixed. I had a problem with their website, though. For some reason, I was unable to access my account. It was down the weekend that I was trying to call for this repair. I filed a complaint without logging into my account. Then, I got a phone call from American Home Shield trying to get in contact with me about who would be coming out and it was followed up with an email. Pro-Tec Plumbing & Drain came out and the guy knew what he was talking about. He tested all the connectors and said that he did not find any leakage. He told me to call the gas company if I don't feel confident about it. He then proceeded to set up my water heater and it fired up perfectly fine. It's been working ever since.

When I put the wrench underneath there to turn the garbage disposal to see if anything was stuck in it, it would turn and then I would push the reset button and it would go up and fall back down. Then it would work for a few seconds and make a funny sound and just completely cut off. So I checked the wiring and the wiring was fine. I knew that the garbage disposal had an issue and when the guy came out, he looked at it and said that the garbage disposal needed to be replaced. Then they put a new garbage disposal in and everything's been working fine since. My wife was happy with what they did and he explained things to her. My refrigerator needed a filter. The problem is mine is older and it didn't come with a filter. I went online, made the appointment that day, and American Home Shield provided me the name of All City Appliance Repair as the company that was going to help me. We did a video call and I was told that I would have to call a plumber to install a filter. But because my refrigerator is a little old, plumbers don’t even fool with that. I had to get a new refrigerator. I had another claim with American Home Shield before COVID and that was for my garbage disposal. They took care of that. I probably need to put a claim in to get a service on my heating unit.

My refrigerator went out on me. The technicians that came were very professional. I've got lots of things repaired with AHS. The worst part is they don't work weekends, which I can't understand at all. That is awful. The best part is that the cost is at a fixed price, they're very efficient, and they definitely contact you to make an appointment. So, they're very good and save you money. Overall, it's been a long time that I've had AHS and they've been excellent service. I recommend others to get American Home Shield if they're a homeowner, especially if they're gonna own their home. For appliance repair, it can get repaired at a good cost.

But this time, he called us a few hours after we had filed the claim online and he explained that he couldn't get here before Thursday, which was two days later. But that was not an issue. He came out Friday morning and had the new hot water heater with him and he installed it and it's been working fine. He was a very nice man to deal with. Very gracious and very accommodating. Recently, I had a blocked and leaky garbage disposal unit. The techs replaced it and everything went fine. AHS has done a good job and I've gotten good referrals. The contractors they've sent out have been competent. They have gotten the job done at a reasonable cost. Also, AHS has gotten a lot better at getting their service providers out in a timely manner. The downside is that they want to put a band-aid on things. Every other summer for six years, our air conditioning unit would go out in July. We're in Arizona and we'd be without AC for a week while the other busy AC repairman would get around to us and they would fix it. All they would do is change the lube, put some Freon or change a bearing.
Finally, last summer, I went outside of AHS and hired an air conditioning company to put in a new unit. They were fabulous. Our AC went out and in the afternoon, I called. At seven o'clock at night, they called me back and had somebody on-site at 7:00 am the next day and fixed the unit. Within a week, they had a brand new unit put in and tuned up. AHS doesn't pay their vendors enough so the vendors don't go the extra mile. They just do the minimum to keep you going.
A home warranty is a little bit like crop insurance. Either you get it and have it all the time or you don't do it. I went 10 years with no claims and then my whole AC unit shot craps. So, I had an $8,000 replacement of the air handler and all that stuff. I got it all done for 500 bucks because I had the home warranty. Instead of nickel and diming me, the whole thing blew up so they had to replace it. I'm close to breaking even between my premiums and the costs that they've saved me over the years.
You have to make a decision early on whether you wanna have the security of having a number you can call about any kind of repair problem and have a company that has contacts and resources. The home warranty saves you from looking for vendors too. If a vendor has a contract with them, they must be at least minimally competent. They won't necessarily be the best but at least they're good enough that American Home Shield decided to contract with them. I can’t say that everybody they’ve ever sent out here met that standard, but most of the time, they've been okay.

I had two toilets that were both functioning incorrectly. One had a bad flush valve and the other one had a bad fill valve. Jacobs Plumbing came out and replaced the components within the toilet that needed repair and took care of the problem. As long as it's a fairly clear-cut covered repair issue, the claim process with AHS has been very straightforward.
However, I have some electrical work that I still don't have actually done, which is a requirement to move a low-level electrical line. They apparently don't cover any of the low voltage electrical lines. I'm trying to engage a contractor for that on my own and it’s been less than successful. Therefore, I still have a line running around the outside edges of my living room. I had one electrician come out, who had previously done some work for me through American Home Shield, only to find out that he does not do low voltage lines. I found another one, but then something happened on their end, and they were not able to complete the work. I ran out of energy and time at that point. Hoping to get that done sometime this winter.

My dad spoke with someone prior to my involvement to ask a few questions and that went well, too. I was impressed with how quickly a service tech was sent out as well. It was a plumbing issue and the tech was great. He was professional, very timely and easy to work with. Due to circumstances, I wasn't able to have the home inspected till after the purchase. We were trying to move quickly on the sale so it was nice to know that I could purchase the warranty. A couple of issues weren't covered by the warranty but it's nice to know that the ones that we found could be taken care of. It gives you a little bit of peace of mind that you're not going to be responsible for some unexpected middle of the night repairs or things that you weren't planning on. The electrical panel was buzzing. It went from one outlet not working to six outlets and they were also buzzing. When I metered it out, the voltages were all over the place. The tech assessed that the ground fault circuit isolators were bad for two sides of the house and he replaced those. He checked the panel also to make sure that there was no corrosion and that there was nothing with the circuit breakers causing the issue. It was determined that it was the GFCI that was the problem and he fixed that. He did a really good job.
Everything's great now. My wife can use her curling iron in the bathroom and we're not popping the circuit breaker or the GFCI. The tech told me that they have a 30-day warranty on their service. I had a soft spot in the floor and it felt like I was sinking. If I walked over it, I thought I would go through the floor. I pulled the carpet up and the hardwood was damaged and it was an all-around thing in our floor. So I assumed it was a leak. We called the plumber and he came. He went under the house, checked everything, and he saw that the porch leaked and that it brought it towards the house. The porch was on an incline. The plumber told me that he would call American Home Shield to address the issue. But they would not honor it because it was not a plumbing leak. It was a rain leak.
I also had an experience with the oven. It would not work. The tech came in, spent 10 minutes in the house and 15 minutes in the car. He walked back in and said he could not find the part that was needed. AHS offered to give me the money for it because it was an old oven. They gave me $400, which I haven't received a check. I had some issues about it because my husband passed away the second week we were in the house. And his name was still on the statement. So when I got the first check, I couldn't cash it because my husband is deceased now. They haven't sent the second check and it has been three weeks now. AHS just said it's in the mail. So they said the post office is running slow.
AHS first gave me just plumbing, duct work, the basic. But when I saw the contract, I said I needed the appliances on there. So it was an additional $150. But I did that because my husband is not here and I said I needed something. Just to pay somebody to come, not even trying to find anyone. That would take a lot off of me. AHS needs to listen to the customer. Other than that, go do it and read the fine print.

We had two faucets that were leaky and a shower that needed to be redone. The claim process is pretty simple with American Home Shield. The only hard thing is getting a hold of a person if you have an issue. It would take sometimes an hour to talk to a person. We had an issue where we were waiting to hear back and it ended up that our separate fridge and freezer wasn't covered even though they told me when we started with them that it would be. The agent didn't know and I didn't read the contract that it wasn't covered. So, that was a misunderstanding.
But their contractor Aladdin's Plumbing was quick and they were amazing. They have to get some parts so they're coming back but everything they did was great. As far as how fast everything that's automated goes, it's flawless and AHS does a great job with that. The hard part, is when you do hit a hiccup where it’s like, “Oh, is this covered? Is it not?” We had paid for two different plumbing guys to come out before they told us it wasn't covered. Those guys should know the minute they walk in and say, “This is your plan. American Home Shield doesn't cover this."
There could be a searchable database where they can see what is covered when they're coming so they don't waste their time or our time. That would make it easier for their contractors. If we have a problem that American Home Shield doesn't cover, they want us to come to them for business. But if they're not well supported by American Home Shield, then we get frustrated with them and it's really not even their fault.

We weren’t getting any heat. And so a technician came from Sundance. He was very knowledgeable and he gave us some information. He said it looks like a control panel issue and he replaced that. But we still weren't getting any heat so he came back and said that the furnace needed to be replaced. Everything was through American Home Shield. The tech said, “Well, we contract with them. We don't do any outside work so everything goes through AHS and they contact us".
I got an email saying that the claim was being reviewed by American Home Shield, and there were limits on my contract. They said to call, which I did. They only give me much information. would have thought that it was online since they have that setup where you can go online and make claims but you can’t check to see the progress of what’s going on, you have to call somebody.
I understand a lot of companies use foreign people for staff, but sometimes it gets really hard to understand them. I called this morning because I wanted to find out the status. I said, “Well, the technician said that you all will review the claim, you all will contact them.” The rep said, “Well, you probably should call them.” I called Sundance and the woman said, "No, AHS tells us what's needed and we do the review and then we let them know." She said, “AHS needs to order it and when it comes in, they'll get ahold of you. Custom work needs to be done to access where it needs to go".
This is a condo and the furnace is upstairs on the roof. So, the opening that goes up to where all that stuff is is through one of the walk-in closets. The access is not big enough to take down what's up there and put in a new one. So, there was gonna have to be some work done to enlarge it. The contractor doesn't do that. I talked to the man and he said, “Yeah, AHS takes care of doing that but there’s a charge that you will have to pay.”
Also, the man that I talked to at American Home Shield said my part would be $2,236. And I said to the lady at Sundance, “Would you verify that". She checked and she said it was $2,970. So I’m still not sure what my part is. Other than that, AHS's service has been pretty good and I've been okay with it thus far. They've been quick to get someone out.

I had Total Home Protection prior. I was having struggles. Even though the deductible was lower, I couldn't find any technicians to do any of the work that I needed. And that was a little frustrating. My brother had American Home Shield, and he was really happy with it and the results that he had gotten. Whereas we both had different things at different houses at the same time, and his would go through and get done. And I would still be waiting. And he said, “Well, you need to change.”
I first called, then AHS scheduled someone. He called me a couple of days later and did a video chat so he could see the microwave and what was going on. And he said he would order the parts necessary and have them mailed to the house. He said it might take 10 days. But it took much less than that. And he said when they come, I should call and we would schedule an appointment. It was the 21st of last month it was first scheduled. And it had to be changed to the 28th for some reason. But I only had one incident which I need to follow up on. They replaced the heating coil and something for it to spin. It's an above-range microwave. But now the fan doesn't come on, where it did before they did anything to it. I hope I don't have to pay another $100 deductible for it. Other than that, they were very professional from beginning to end.

So far, so good. AHS has been responsive to my requests. I have them for my home and for my other place up in Palmdale. They were used twice up in Palmdale and the tenants were happy with the people that came out to do the repairs for their issues. Here, I had one claim and the contractor was quick and called me to schedule the appointment. I was happy with that. When the technician came out the first time for the washing machine that kept stopping, he thought he had fixed it, but it was not fixed. I kept getting an error message. Another guy came out and replaced the memory board. When they were here, it worked right. When they left, it stopped working again so I had them come back out. It's working fine now.

Everything is pretty quick with the claims process and the techs have been professional. I had maintenance on my furnace and the techs came to check on the AC again after they fixed it close to a year ago. But I had one tech from Cutting Edge acting rude while my wife was here. They replaced the compressor and a few months later, we had no AC. I was telling Home Shield was, “Why is it that not even a year later, the AC is not working? And then when we have to get it done, we have to recharge it with Freon and spend hundreds of dollars all over again.” AHS was supposed to get back with us but nothing has come about. I don't want to be spending an extra amount of dollars. AHS should just get companies in, do what they have to do and get them out - not fix something just to say, “Okay, it might last a couple of weeks or a couple of months or a year.“ Other than that, I'm pleased with AHS.

My refrigerator was not working. A guy came and took a look at it. He pulled out the fridge, did some tests, and worked on it. Afterward, he said would have to report to American Home Shield then get back to me. The home warranty called and said I could go buy another fridge. I did that and sent them the receipt. I've been using this home warranty for a while. I have four properties now that they cover. Initially, I used them once in 2000 and sometime in about 2015. I then went to Choice Warranty. Two years ago, I signed back up with American Home Shield. Compared to Choice Home Warranty, they're nice and great.

My heat was not working and the contractor, Fire & Ice, was fantastic. I had no issues with this one but I had a big problem with American Home Shield with a claim I put in for the AC. The customer service department was terrible to deal with it. They were telling me that they were scheduling somebody, then they would call and cancel that person. Over the summer, I was at the point where I was going to cancel my policy. There are a ton of companies but AHS doesn’t have enough service providers in my area. So, they always use Fire & Ice. It is a one-man band and the tech was very busy over the summer with a ton of people calling in claims. And AHS not willing to be proactive to look for other providers that could have helped me out.

For our recent experience with AHS, the techs did a great job. I had a washer that was not draining correctly. We called them and they made the appointment. They showed up on time. They took care of the problem and the problem seems to be resolved. The only thing was that AHS had a long wait time on the phone. They keep you on the line for a long time, about 30 minutes before you can reach somebody you can talk to. Also, I've had American Home Shield for years. It seems like every year they increase the prices. I started with them with $59 a month. Now, it's $81 a month and I'm debating if I should keep them. If they continue raising their rates, I probably will drop them.

After making a claim on my non-working refrigerator it took three companies before the real problem was found. It took almost six weeks to get a replacement because it could not be elevated as it wasn't really urgent! I was told on at least 11 different occasions a customer service supervisor would call but no one ever did. I was also told because the work order took so long I would be refunded my $109.50 service call fee but I never received it. I was told finally that since the problem was solved I was no longer eligible for a refund. Their credibility is zero as far as I am concerned.

I had an American Home Shield warranty for 1 year. At the 13th month of service I see that my auto payments were higher. I noticed this on the 3rd month into the increased rate. I called to find out why and I was told that my contract was the same but rates increased in my state. But this was not the contract rate I agreed to though. And, I was definitely never notified of an increase. I find this very suspicious since I can start a new account at my same address and the rate would be the exact same as it was all year. I believe they just increased the rate to see if they could get away with it. I asked to speak to someone that could help and my call was terminated. I believe I should be refunded for the difference of the increased rate. Going to cancel service and advise others to stay away from this company.

We bought the house and the seller said that they were furnishing us with a one-year warranty from American Home Shield when they sold the house to us. We had difficulty with getting the whole plan started because somebody didn't get the address correct. It had our street address placed in a different city and zip code so we never received the information about the warranty until I called. We worked hard to track it down with the Realtor’s help. Once it started, then we were fine. I would just recommend that buyers make sure the address gets done right.
I made a service request and a person from Realty Rekey responded on the same day that I made the call to American Home Shield. He scheduled it for the first day of the following week, which was only a few days and on a Monday, so it was happening right away and that was fine with us. The service person came out and was very friendly. He was masked and he did the job. He accommodated our requests on which locks to do, which ones not to do, and how to do it and all that. It was a really good experience.

We used American Home Shield a few years ago and then, we purchased our new home. I originally had another company that we started with, only because they offered some specials, and I had the worst time with them. I said that I was going back to American Home Shield and never leaving, and I have had such a wonderful experience. We've been in this new home for about a year and a half and I've had to get a few things taken care of to include HVAC systems. Most recently, we had servicing done on our system for preparing for the winter and I've had a great service with them.
The contractor was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable of what was going on. I was able to be on the phone when he and my son were walking around. He took the time to look at the systems and some of the possible concerns that we could have with the little leaking and gave an assessment for us. He even gave a tentative quote that we all might have to consider. It was nothing life-threatening and nothing to where we had to get anything changed. But he said that if we should choose to, he would recommend it. And if not, he gave us what we could be prepared to do in the future. So, that was very helpful and good. I felt comfortable and confident that he knew what he was talking about.
If I brought a question up or a concern, American Home Shield sat and explained. If I didn't understand something and thought a charge or something that wasn't covered, they came back and clarified what the contract says. They even tried to see how they could assist in making sure the issue that we had would possibly be able to be covered. I absolutely love AHS and I felt horrible leaving them.

The next one was $1,800 plus what they were putting towards it and I couldn't afford that. But I found one online for about 1,200 bucks and American Home Shield is sending me 1,300 so I'm happy with that. The only thing I'm not happy with, and it's not their fault, is they were supposed to get back in touch with the people who came out for the fans that I already paid for, and I haven't heard from them yet.
I have been through some warranties and most of them out there are liars, and they do not replace or fix or anything. They leave you hanging. I haven't received the check yet, but AHS gave me the option of the check so hopefully it's being processed and on its way. We live in a three-storey townhouse. The second floor is where the kitchen is at and it has beautiful hardwood floors. We had a problem where there was water was everywhere. T Mayes was the company that came out and serviced me. The work took more than a day. They were able to figure out that the water was coming from the refrigerator so they took the hose from the back of the refrigerator and put it in the sink and let the water drip down in there so it could be repaired.
It took a while but they finally got things under control. We got the floor mopped up and waxed. But there are some slabs where you can see there's water that's still underneath because you can see a difference in the color around the rim of the hardwood and how it's laid on the floor. Other than that, T Mayes was professional and they told me to feel free to call in. If I had any questions, they were there for me. I really appreciate the outstanding customer service that they provided me with.
American Home Shield has been very responsive to any of my calls. They've been sending out people who are qualified to do the job. It may not seem like immediately wild things are happening and it seems nothing's really getting done. It takes time and for them to get it right. There is one problem I have with American Home Shield. I called them about three or four times about a problem and they kept having different sales reps to assist me. I need one person because when somebody else comes behind somebody else's notes, they're not really getting what I'm talking about. I then find myself explaining over and over again to get the person to understand the severity of what's going on and how I need immediate assistance.
I know that American Home Shield cannot assign one agent because they're a huge company and they have people coming in and out of different hours. I can call them after midnight and they're probably open 24/7, so I would get a different person. The thing is, you don't know whether that different person is taking copious notes the way that you would want them to take or whether they're just writing down anything.
It also took years before we used American Home Shield because we moved into our house in 2006. The most major thing I called them for was for the refrigerator leak. I asked them to give me a new refrigerator but they would not do it. They kept trying to repair the refrigerator instead of giving me a replacement and that irked me. That didn't make sense. I'm glad that they had the leak fixed in the refrigerator. But if I have another problem with that again, it's going out and American Home Shield is going to pay for it. I ain't playing this time.
Water damage not only goes from the floor that you're on but underneath as well. On my first level my house, I have water damage where the water went down the side of the wall and peeled back the paint everywhere. Now, I've got to get somebody to repair that. But for the most part, I would still use American Home Shield. I'm very satisfied with them and have recommended them to a lot of my friends.

We've had AHS since May of ‘21 and it usually takes a week to 10 days for them to assign it to a contractor. That's slow and then the contractor is hit or miss. AHS needs to expand the number of contractors that they have servicing a given area. That way, it's easier for them to get the job done in a timely manner. They had assigned a plumber who took weeks to come out. Our oven went out and I have a request pending. It's been eight days and it hasn't been assigned to anyone yet. They also need to expand their call center because it can take 45 minutes on hold to actually get to talk to someone.
Scheduling service with Interstate Healing was a lot easier than most things through Home Shield so that Pro Connect thing is working. They had the claim assigned within a couple of days. I contacted the heating company and they immediately set up the appointment. The tech was on time and had no issues. Our house is on a well and we knew that going in so I got coverage for extra well pumps. Sure enough, within the first month, the well pump went out and I have coverage. I would have been out $2,000 on my own if I hadn't thought about that. Other than it taking a while, we've been very happy. The warranty was a really good purchase.
Look at the house you're buying and see if it has any peculiar requirements so that you make sure and compare coverage and add-on coverage to what you're going to need. Don't hesitate to file a claim. If something breaks, let AHS know.

I've been having pretty good luck with American Home Shield's reps. They're really nice. AHS sent an appliance man for my dishwasher. There was a wire burnt and he said he couldn't do anything until we had an electrician. So, American Home Shield sent A & Z Electric. The electrician fixed it. We've had good contractors and I've been very satisfied with AHS so far. It's a good insurance to have on your home appliances and everything.

On a Wednesday, the compressor on my AC wasn't kicking on and it stopped cooling. So, I did a claim with AHS and the next day, Thursday, Tca HVAC called me. I talked to them and they set up an appointment. They came here first thing Friday morning and diagnosed that it was not the air conditioning unit compressor. They checked it and it turned out that the breaker in the panel that turns the compressor on was going out. It's supposed to be 210 and it was 118. So there wasn't enough power to kick the compressor on. Naturally, the HVAC guy couldn't change that because that's electrical and I understood that. So, they closed the AC claim and filled out the paperwork to transfer it to electrical. I've used them several times in other instances, so I'm familiar with their people and their work. They do beautiful work.
I knew it was going to take a little bit for American Home Shield to transfer and authorize to get me an electrician that Friday, so I waited and waited because usually, the minute they do it, it pops up my phone and on my screen in my portal. Finally, on Sunday, I still did not got anything and I realized that I didn't have any air conditioning. It was 75 degrees in New Orleans which was cool for New Orleans, but it was still hot. So I called at about 11:00 or so that Sunday morning, went through the process, and talked to Gilbert. He said it was going to take them 48 hours to process the claim. But I told him that it went in last Friday. He said it takes them a little while and I said I'd be very patient. So I waited.
On Tuesday afternoon, I called again and another guy answered. He saw all my notes in there, then he said that it was going to take a while and that they didn't get the claim until Monday afternoon. But I told him that they got it on Friday because I know Crystal and Jeff who run the place, and they sent it in on Friday at 2 o'clock. So they've been having it for that long and American Home Shield dropped the ball on mine. I'm a relator and on Wednesday, I thought I was just going to call Tina, who's the regional for American Home Shield, when I get to the office in the morning because it had been a week with no air conditioning. I've been sleeping with my windows open in the back of my house and going under the pillow next to me.
So I walked in the office for our sales meeting and Tina was our speaker. I told her what happened and had my service thing printed out so she'd have the number. I told her that AHS was still waiting to process my claim and it did not show up in the system. I was fortunate enough that I know the people and I know who called. Not that it did me any good for a week, because I didn't want to pull a favor. But at this point, it was now 78 degrees here, 90% humidity, and I was still sleeping with the gun. Long story short, Tina called AHS and after about an hour, the service claim popped on my phone for High Voltage A/C, Heating & Electrical. I've used them before on one of my properties and they are deadly.
So I called Tina and she said they were so booked up because of the storm. She said they were so backlogged and it'd be a week before she could get me another contractor. But I said I was not going another week. She said she'd call customer service and get Sonia to call me. So evidently, Sonia left me a message that she had found somebody and I'd be getting a text. But when she left a message, my transcriber left a number off of her phone. While I was doing the errands, my phone rang and it was an unknown number. But I answered it and he asked where I was. At first, it freaked me out as this man wanted to know where I was. But he said he was from the electric company and that he was in front of our house. I told him I was 10 minutes away. and to not leave. HE said he happened to be in the area and when I got there, he was in my driveway.
In 15 minutes from the time he walked in, he was finished. I came in, pressed the button, the compressor kicked on, we let it run for a minute, then I turned the whole system off. And then, he said I got to wait about six or seven minutes for it to go through a cycle. I said we should make sure it went off and came back on. It did and he was gone. We spent more time talking than we did anything.
Th same thing happened to me once before on a dishwasher. The guy came and checked the dishwasher and an icemaker, and he said he'd call in the one for the dishwasher. He said he needed to transfer the claim because what was wrong with it was one of those where they'd let you buy a new one or trade it off. I told him to do whatever he wanted, I just needed it fixed. But it took them about two weeks to resolve. It was during the hurricane and it was hard with messaging and telephones. It took 10 days before American Home Shield acknowledged what the guy sent in. So that's a little kink they got in their system. But other than that, I recommend American Home Shield. They take care of everything and for my last claim, the AC pump people did their job wonderfully.

There was a leak underneath our kitchen sink and there's water underneath the sink. The gentleman who came out said that it was coming from the faucet. We have one of these retractable faucet sprays. He took it, said that it was loose, screwed it in tighter and said that fixed it. It didn't fix it. The faucet probably just needs to be either replaced or that part on the faucet in the sink just needs to get fixed somehow. I called Whitney back and then I received a phone call from one of their reps about three days later. But I did not give them a call back to say, "Hey, this issue wasn't resolved." So, they did try to call back and contact me to resolve it, but I did not follow up with them on that. My reason for signing up for American Home Shield was that if I had a problem like this, they would come out and fix it on the spot and I would not have to waste time calling them back, playing phone tag and doing these different things.

AHS was fantastic but I wish I had known ahead of time that they don't do manufacturer problems. The claims process with American Home Shield is very difficult. They've gotten better about answering the phone because sometimes I used to wait two hours on the phone. I'd have to put it on speaker dial and just wait. Now, on the average, it takes about 10 minutes. But I have spent hours on the phone with different situations repeating. In fact, I have one right now that has been very recent that I've been dealing with.
I have a rental property that the AC was replaced in June and the compressor was not any good anymore. American Home Shield sent out a good contractor. But the problem is the paperwork of getting it done. The contractor had gone out there but then they're hard to reach too. So between trying to reach them and trying to come back, it turned out that they needed to submit some more paperwork to get this compressor. So in the meantime, I have to do all the leg work and call back and forth on this issue.
The people at my rental property have been out of AC since the 18th of October. Not only do they have their AC out, but the water heater is not heating. I called them both at the same time. But the same thing happened with the water heater. I called it in, had Best Tec Plumbing come out, and then they serviced it, and then the renter called me back and said it's still not heating. I had to make another arrangement for the Best Tec to go out there the following week and they went. I had to make a couple of calls to hear from them and when I finally reached them, they said, "We've already done our part. You need to get back with American Home Shield to find out about the water heater."
I called on the 2nd of November to talk to American Home Shield in a very lengthy conversation about this water heater. I told the rep that I needed the serial number and model number. After being transferred a couple of times, she told me the serial number of the water heater. I asked her the brand name and she said she didn't know. I said, "How do you not know? How can you send out something supposedly that's sent from American Home Shield and you do not know what it is?" So then, she said it was a GE gas water heater. She then said, "Ma'am, it does have a one year warranty. So, you need to call GE to make arrangements. Because if you have another claim or whatever, it's not going to be valid because it's under warranty. So, you have to contact the manufacturer." I said, "Why should I have to contact the manufacturer? I'm not the one that placed that water heater there and I'm not the one that hired the contractor." She said, "Well, ma'am, that's what you have to do." So after that lengthy conversation, I went ahead and pursued calling GE.
When I called GE, they transferred me three times. When I finally got to tech support, I spent about an hour talking to the rep. She said, "There is no way that was supplied by Moore Supply. And I'll tell you why." So, she educated me on how to tell the year of the model of the water heater. She told me it is a 2007 water heater and that they stopped making those water heaters in 2012. After a lengthy conversation, she said, "I've always had this problem..." Just on and on, she was telling me stuff. I said, "Okay, well, you've educated me. There's got to be a paper trail. Let me go back to talk to the company." She told me that they would do anything without a receipt. But I told her that I didn't have a receipt. So I said, "Okay, you know what, there has to be a paper trail. So, let me go back to the company and get to see if they have a receipt, if they bought it out right. Or if not, if it was sent by American Home Shield, there has to be some sort of accountability."
I called the plumbing company again and I said, "Look, I called GE and GE said there's no way that this was their product, and this was since 2007, and they need a receipt. Do you have something?" But the GE rep gave me a completely different number than the girl from American Home Shield gave me. It turned out the information that the GE rep gave me was for the old water heater that was replaced before. So, I wound up getting the new number from the plumbing company and the data purchasing steps. Then the rep said that now that I have this information, I have to call American Home Shield back because I have to get another work order number and pay again to get it serviced so they can find out what the problem is.
For my house, I had an air conditioner that was brand-new that American Home Shield replaced, and it was not any good either. So, I had to wait for a long time. When I called about that, I spent hours talking and repeating myself almost verbatim because every time I talked to American Home Shield, I'd have to repeat the story all over again. It's like there's no documentation as to anything that I've tried to resolve. I got so fed up with it that I told them that I was going to write to the CEO. I was furious. I have three different policies and every year I get charged more.
In summer, American Home Shield would assign an AC company and then they said, "There's no one in the area." I said, "Well, you know what, that's not my problem. You need to find someone that'll take your contract because that's not the deal." It's not acceptable for me to call American Home Shield and then they would say there's no one in the area. It has always been a big fight to get stuff accomplished. I've been with them for such a long time and now I've got to get things resolved because I'm at the point that things are starting to break. But it has been very frustrating.

On the whole, American Home Shield has been really good. I've had the warranty for a number of years and they took pretty good care of us most of the way. It was really good to have the backing and not have to write as big a check. There was one job though for a hot water heater and the vendor came up with a bunch of extra expenses. He said, "American Home Shield requires that I bring all of this up to code, and they won't pay for it." The cost was prohibitive.
The guy really zoomed me and I was very unhappy about that. I went over them with my own plumber and he said, "Well, that's not necessary. You needed that, but it's too much." I felt a little uncovered at that point and the guy should have taken better care of us. It was two days before I was leaving for a 10-day trip and I had to get it done. There was no time to quibble or argue or switch to another vendor.
But every other vendor we've had has been terrific. The last contractor was good to deal with. They were here on the same appliance once before and did a great job. Now, there was a different problem and they fixed it right away. They're a good vendor and I would call them back if we needed them. AHS is a good thing to have especially if you have an older home. My home is in really good shape, but it's also 60 years old and stuff goes wrong and needs to get addressed. The coverage has been very helpful and I would recommend it to almost anybody.

American Home Shield's service is very good. The contractor did a really good job with my furnace. The techs were timely, explained what was going on and talked about what was the next step, and pulled through. Last year I went with another company when I first purchased my home and it was a horrible experience. It was close to the end of the contract and I had a toilet that split on the sides so I called that warranty company. They sent a technician and that tech was supposed to report back so we could make an assessment. He did not report back and I had to call nearly every day for over a week.
I had to escalate my claim and call different people. I let the company know how displeased I was. They came back and said it was not normal wear and tear and that there was some type of impact to the toilet. I told them I didn't agree and that wasn't correct and they said they could send somebody else. So, they sent the second person. And that person just stood at the door and just looked at the toilet. He said, “Oh, yeah, the screws are too tight.” The claim was denied and that company didn't pay the claim.
I have never had that issue with AHS. Take this warranty. Grab it quickly and don't let it slip through your fingers. In comparison to what I had, I have a plan where I can get my HVAC checked before the season comes in. When the tech came, he found something and said, "Well, just call American Home Shield back.” I did and they got somebody else back out and diagnosed it. It was much easier than my previous experience.

Most of the time, the experience with AHS is good. But sometimes, it's not. So, I stay with them because I've been with them for a long time. The claim for the freezer went well. Just got that completed two weeks ago. But the air conditioner has not been resolved. It has been four months since my initial call regarding the AC system. It freezes up. And I was told it was the coils that need to be replaced. But I have not received any recent status. I have one contractor that came out. He came out here and looked at it, but it was very quick. He told me he entered it into the system. He immediately purged it from the system and I was not told about it. That delayed that AC call right away.
He was using a website and a name that I found in New Mexico. I called the proprietor in New Mexico and let him know that he was using his digital storefront for marketing. It was bizarre. So, American Home Shield should screen the contractors a bit more thoroughly because that individual seemed like he had done that before to people. I filed a complaint. AHS said, “Well, we can enter it again.” So, that was a bit confusing to me that the contractor could just drop it out of the system without AHS knowing about it. The communication flow is a little frustrated there.
When I called back, AHS got me another contractor. He came out, but I have not heard the status of that. That has been quite a while. But he said it would take some time because it was replacing coils. Fortunately I recharged the AC with Freon and it's holding its system, but it failed twice since he came. So I'm waiting for it to fail again and not hold the Freon. There was a leak in the coils in the main unit. He identified that. I've been debating whether to get rid of the service because I don't know if it's worth my while. I've had AHS for over a year now. I never had a claim until recently with the AC system and the refrigerator.

I had a dishwasher problem and the gentleman that was sent looked into it. The gasket was falling apart and somebody else replaced the gasket, but he didn't check out the washer. Then, after I tried to use it, there was no pressure. So, this more recent man came and checked it out with meters and ran it and said that it was not getting any pressure on the top. He got the part and brought it in a timely manner. I cannot say enough good about that company. This was the first time I have been happy with service from American Home Shield in a very long time.
However, I would like to see them change the fact that they have offshore people that have to deal with that don't understand what the customer is talking about. Also, they need to vet their contractors better. Like in the bathroom, one contractor put the sink closer in crooked, so it was very strange to work. I called back and AHS sent somebody else out, and he walked in with his hands in his pockets and stared at it and said that he had to remove that whole thing to fix it and there was nothing he could do and left.
I have had nothing but trouble with the plumbers that came out, and those people run their mouths and don't do the job. They fixed two different problems with the toilet. Yet they didn't flush it to see if it works or to see if it doesn't leak. Every plumber I have had out here until this guy, I would never let in my house again. But when I have been dissatisfied recently and called AHS, they have sent out other people and not charged me.
When looking for a home warranty, read the fine print and see what they cover and don't cover. The only way you can tell is by having the people sent out. If they're not any good, call back to the warranty company and tell them that the contractors were not professional or weren't performing the job. If the warranty company pays attention to you, then it's a good company. If they ignore you, then it's not.

I had inexperienced or unqualified plumbing technicians come out to my house and they caused a secondary leak into a pipe. Then, they damaged a fixture and didn't bother to say anything about it. That caused another leak at the showerhead of my shower to the left. The technician used an improper tool to align my handle for my handheld shower and now, it has scratches in it that weren't there prior. You can see the grooves from the tool where he turned it instead of using something appropriate or even trying to use something to soften. He straight used it and damaged it without any care or regard to my property and they moved one of my body sprayers, so it’s no longer flushed to the wall. It's protruding from the wall.
Initially, the very first time that I called American Home Shield in regard to this, I called to ask to submit evidence because I already knew that the company, Patriot Plumbing, was gonna deny what they did. I wanted to submit everything that I needed to so I could submit documentation evidence of damage done. If AHS would have taken that initially, that could have maybe jumpstarted what happened thereafter and what's happening currently. Also, Ginny, the initial person that I spoke to from the escalation team, told me she would get back to me but she never did and I haven't heard from her since.
AHS should have taken what I was saying seriously, even if it was found not to be, but just considered it as if it is because this is part of my frustration. I'm a little disappointed because I still have a hole in my wall and damaged fixtures in my house, and nobody from American Home Shield is communicating with me. So, I find myself calling several times a week to get an update. I even let a whole week lapse between the last time I called and there's still no update. I haven't received anything and every time I call back in, I have to say this all over again. It's frustrating.

He let me know that he had to go and get the part ordered because it wasn't off-the-shelf. And within a week, they were calling me back to let me know that the part came in and that they wanted to come out that day. So, it wasn't anything we had to schedule. They came right out and put the part on. And we got heat just in time for this cold weather. AHS is willing to come out for anything that's needed and with my mom being a senior, she's appreciative of their service. I'm also highly satisfied with them.

AHS does a good job. When things need to be repaired, it gets done. A recent claim was when the booster pump went out on my swimming pool. The gentleman from JT Ultimate Pools who came out had a pump on his truck and he replaced it that day, which is very unusual.

When my refrigerator wasn't cooling properly, I called American Home Shield and they set me up with Superior Appliance. I was told to call them, which I did and I told them what the problem was. They set an appointment and came over. There were a couple of things wrong with my refrigerator, and the repair guy had to replace the thermostat and the timer. He was really nice, did it very efficiently and cleaned up afterwards. It was great. I'd definitely refer American Home Shield to my friends. They are incredible for all appliances. What they cover, we couldn't ask for anything better.

There have been some difficulties here and there, but generally the claim process is simple. I opened up a ticket for my AC and the guy came out. With the AC access in the attic, I didn't know that the ladder had to be pulled down for them. So he just looked and said, “I'm not allowed to climb up there and get the ladder. Unfortunately, I can't do anything.” I said, “I paid, think it was either $75 or $100. So you’re not able to do anything?” He said he couldn’t right then. But he said if we would provide him access later, then he could.
We have a tankless water heater. We were getting hot water in other places, but not the shower. We also had a leaking toilet, and the leaking outside faucet. Bill was able to address the shower. Unfortunately, our warranty doesn't cover showerheads. But he let us know we needed to buy a new one, because that was the issue. So we did that and he fixed the issue with the toilet and let us know what the issue was with the outside faucet. Our warranty also doesn't cover outside faucets. But he tried to do as much as he can. He also provided some washers for us to try to use to see if that would fix the problem. He went over the problem and let us know how we could fix it, and what parts we needed.
When I called in to add the items to the plumbing ticket, the rep did not understand that an outside faucet is outside. He thought it was inside the toilet. And other problems like when I needed to cancel tickets. I was told I would get a refund and it would automatically be done. But it wasn't. I called back to find out when it would get here and they said I needed to wait so many business days first. But I still didn’t get. Eventually, they fixed it. But just that.

There was a leak at the base of the toilet. The plumber got out the same day and he replaced the wax ring and a valve. However, my mom has an AHS account and it took forever to get a reimbursement check on her refrigerator that burned up due to the tech coming out. AHS kept saying, “Mailed the check. Mailed the check,” and couldn't provide details on it. We went to the Attorney General and BBB. After a year of struggling to get it, they finally submitted the check. Other than that blemish, they've been pretty decent.

I'm having an issue with my AC cooling. One of the things that the technician did was take a look and he diagnosed the problem, but he also said it was difficult to find out how effective the solution was because it was a cold day and there was not a whole lot of heat in the air to take out. So he said we may need to try to do this again later in the spring-summer timeframe. But I don't know what my warranty will cover in regard to what happens next. When I had an issue with a ceiling fan that broke, I thought it would be covered but I found out it was not.
Requesting the technician through American Home Shield was relatively easy. The one thing that I wish I had an option to have is a larger selection or a chance to pick a company from a list as opposed to American Home Shield having a preferred list of folks and then they go through the preference one through another. But so far, American Home Shield has been good. They're decent and good for what they have.

I moved into this condo in November or December with a VA loan. As part of the process, they asked me to choose a home warranty company and I chose American Home Shield. Then I forgot about it. They sent me a notification in August that I'd be up for renewal in December. I got a few things around the house that needed fixing and so I opened four tickets. One for a slowly filling toilet, one for a ceiling fan that wouldn't turn, one for a garbage disposal that wouldn’t turn, and one for a microwave that decided to self-destruct and melt part of the cap where the microwave was coming out and caused a big smoke.
On three items, AHS performed admirably. They sent someone out and I got timely service. I had to pay a $75 copay for each of those three events. On the fourth one, the microwave, I also paid $75 and they sent out a guy in which English was his second language. He sounded like he was from Eastern Europe. I showed him the microwave. He took pictures, asked me a couple of questions, one of which he had to look up on his phone to translate, and I explained my answer. Based on his report, AHS decided to deny the claim saying it wasn't normal wear and tear. I was pretty frustrated about that. He even mentioned the glass platter on the microwave was missing. I explained to him that when it did this stuff, it shattered into pieces so I threw it away as it was dangerous. I showed him some shards of the leftover. But he reported it as missing, so clearly, there were some issues with communication.
AHS sent me an email saying, “We have urgent information on this dispatch,” and that led me to call them. I gave them a verbal appeal over the phone. I also sent them an email to their appeal staff and that was early last week. I offered if that is an option. I don't believe I should pay for the second opinion because then I'm out 150 and I still have no guarantee that it's going to get me where I need to go. I haven't heard a peep from them. I was extremely happy with the people they sent out on those other calls. But if they continue to deny it, not only am I out $75 to be told no, but I have to spend 500 bucks on another over-the-range microwave. I can't do both and I'm disappointed in that very much.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

American Home Shield's website is easy to use. There's a button that says, “Submit a claim.” You tell them if you need plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or whatever you need, and then tell them what the problem is. When my toilet was leaking, they assigned somebody and said it was J&L Plumbing, and that they would contact me for an appointment time. It was really simple. As far as the timeframe, it was the weekend, but they called me within one working day to set up the appointment. The tech was great. He came over and looked at the toilet, told me what the problem was, went out to his truck, got the parts, and fixed it for me. I've usually had good experiences with American Home Shield, but I had a horrible one last year, which was really convoluted. It took a long time to get the issue taken care of. Every now and then, you hit that stumbling block but overall, AHS works for me. I’d tell others to go ahead and get it.

The company that first came out said that it looked like a slab leak and they couldn’t help so they left. Apparently, they don’t fix whatever I have going on and they said they would let American Home Shield know. So, the second company is coming out today. I’m not happy with AHS. I've had other issues where I had a garage door that would pop back up often and I've called and paid the fees a couple of times to have that fixed. And within 24 hours or so, it's doing it again. I never made a follow up with American Home Shield, but the contractors don't come back out. So, I don't know that I'll keep AHS much longer. My son who's an actual engineering student figured out the problem and fixed it for me. So, I don't know why I pay these monthly fees and the $100 fee for somebody to come out twice and not fix something.
From what I understand from other people who have these types of warranties, if you used them, they can be worth it. I kept them because we had a washing machine go out, and it was a very long, drawn-out process to get the washing machine fixed or replaced. We told the company what we thought it was and they sent out somebody new who had zero experience to order something completely different. It took days to get it. Then the guy came out and said that it wasn’t the problem. That claim was super inefficient as well and, in the end, AHS ended up having to replace the washing machine, which made sense for all the fees that we paid.

I'm enjoying American Home Shield's service. They're reasonable, and they respond to me immediately. We had to call them for our refrigerator because the freezer went out. I also wanted to put on a new credit card number and they asked if I wanted to delete the old one, and I said yes. I'm still waiting for the $125 to come out since the repairs on the refrigerator was done. But I've been with American Home Shield since 2015, so it's been fine. Some of the companies that they use are stupid.
The company that they have right now for the refrigerator put in a new unit but it didn't work. They found some wires that had shorted out and they fixed them. But now they have to get another part, so we're waiting on that part so that they can fix the freezer. This has been going on for three weeks. But they're a good company. They stay in contact with us, where other companies had not. They communicate a few times a week to let us know what the updates are.

The people that American Home Shield assigned to me have been very respectful. So far, everything that has broken has been repaired or replaced. I also like the monthly payment. Having to break the payments down like that is great. I would never cancel the policy due to the fact that as your house gets older, things are gonna break. American Home Shield replaced my water heater but when my neighbor had to replace his water heater, it cost him more than $1,500.

Recently, I had a leak in the faucet and the serviceperson corrected the one on the left. Once he left, I went to the back and noticed the right one was leaking. The person that came out was very friendly and he took care of the issue. He messed around with the garbage disposal and tried it out a few times and then eventually determined that he had to replace it. I was very skeptical that we would get a timely resolution because I thought American Home Shield was going to find some reason to either not look at it and not take care of it. American Home Shield has been good so far. The only thing is I have to pay out of pocket a lot. I had to replace the evaporator coil in my AC and I had to pay $700 to repair them. The home warranty says that they cannot fix something, they would replace it. But even with that, the customer still has to pay a ton of money out of pocket.
I had another claim for a roof leak and the technician did a good job. He came on time and repaired the right thing. The home warranty was a little beneficial because if I have someone else do the repair, they would charge me $99. In this case, I already paid American Home Shield a service fee of $75. This claim is in the process so I got the authorization. The home warranty will pay 1,500 and I have to pay 1,500. Consumers need to be aware that there are a lot of out-of-pocket payments for repairs even if they buy the plan. The plan helps out a little bit but you shouldn't think that you won't pay anything. When you go in, there is also the deductible on your side.

At one point, I was, "Just cancel it." I didn't want to have to deal with it because it was too much. It was more stressful wondering what would happen. If we could just fix it on our own. After it got done, the tech came in and fixed it. The contractor that worked there was rude. We didn't care for him. But the second one that came out was really nice. I would still keep the warranty. But I didn't like the way this one went. The communication could have been a bit better. I hope the next time around it goes a little smoother.

My washer was not draining water out properly. Once we did a complete load at the end, the water would still remain. American Home Shield sent out a company and their guy did not seem to know what he was doing. He installed a used drain pump and left my old one. But they were telling me that he installed a new one. This guy also came to my house three times and couldn't get it right. He wasn't listening. His first and second assessments of the problem were completely wrong. My refrigerator in my garage was the other issue that he had to fix. He had to come in twice for that because his first initial assessment was incorrect. He was all over the place.
I was also a bit frustrated with American Home Shield. This thing went on for almost 10 days and I was not listened to at all. I asked for a supervisor and there was no one around on site that could take my call. I asked them if they could send me somebody else. It took me calling and going crazy for them to finally send another company. I never had that experience with American Home Shield. Usually, I say what the problem is, they send somebody and they come in. They usually know what they're doing. They could tell me this and that and they fix the problem up.
All in One Appliance was the second company that came for my washer and they were the ones that actually fixed the problem. They pulled out the equipment that the original company said they installed. It was old and rusty streaks were running up and down the pump. In the inside of the main part of that pump, all the lights were orange and had just gone. The All in One guy did his assessment then came back the next day with a brand-new pump. The box was closed. He opened it in front of me and installed it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

The first time, I called for my toilet and American Home Shield sent a plumber out. Simple job as he said, but I ended up having to get a new toilet due to him cracking my toilet bowl. When the second group came to replace the toilet bowl, there was so much attitude instead of just doing what they have to do. They were pointing out so many things that were wrong with my existing system setup but they weren’t giving me any recommendations as to how to get it fixed. They also came back and sent me a quote for $1,200. I called Home Shield back and told them I wanted someone else to come and I didn't want those plumbers to come again. They sent Lockhart Plumbers who did an excellent job in rectifying the problem and it was no $1,200 issue.
Recently, I had three ducts to my heating system that need to be replaced and the unit is not working. The guy who came out the first time said that the ducts needed to be repaired because water had gotten into them. He also said that if I had to put a whole new unit in. Thus far, the work is being delayed. I talked to someone at the company yesterday and they said they were waiting on pictures that I’m supposed to send in. I went as far as I could go and sent some pictures. But I told him that it didn’t make sense to me that I had to do that whereas they already had a technician come out and take pictures as well. That young man was very informative and I was pleased with what he told me. I was expecting what he said to happen, and thus far, it hasn’t.
What I really find surprising is the $100 deduction. Whatever the plan that a customer has, that needn't be taken out regardless the work has been performed or not. In my case right now, my $100 deduction has already been taken out of my account, but my job is not complete and it’s very slow-paced. That’s the only thing. But I’ve recommended American Home Shield as I have no problems with them. I just so happen to have gotten one good out of three disincentives contractors.

But one time before, I called for my washing machine and I had to wait a couple of days for that. So that was annoying.
American Home Shield has come in handy. Even though the service fee has gone up since I initially signed up with them, it's still cheaper than what I would have to pay a plumber or an electrician or whoever to come out to do whatever the service is. When I initially got it, the service fee for the first year was about $49 and then after that year, it went up to $57.99. I didn't like that. But if you use it at least two or three times a year, it pays for itself for what you would pay for.

American Home Shield is good in the beginning. However, some of the technicians that come to the house are just there for 10 minutes, hurry up to leave, and pack their stuff. They're running late, they want to go home. Also, the message doesn't get conveyed from customer service to the technician, so there's a lot of miscommunication in between, from and to. Then all the calls go to overseas, and it's not an English barrier, it's understanding in US what we need and what the call is for. The customer service people need to type in exactly and listen to the customer and root cause and be detail in the note. Then, when I call US representative, they understand. When the call goes overseas, it's totally different.
For example, I have a two fridge in the main kitchen, and I need both of those checked. One is broken, the front door doesn't close. Another one need to be checked and let me know what technician recommend. When it goes to the message to Sears, the tech came in and said that he would not check it as he didn't have paperwork or document and I need to call back my home warranty and have those sent to him. Then, he just left, 10 minutes. He didn't care regarding a customer giving him business. They care about the money instead of the service.
I need to send them a little more. But I called, I'm paying the company, so I also need service. For 10 minutes they're gonna be charged 75 bucks. But I have another five minutes just to look at it? You don't have 10 minutes to look at it? If it's a major problem, communicate to the guest. "So you're going to take two hours so I have to reschedule. Call your company and moving forward." They did not put any document in it to check it. Other than that, everything is 5 star. Everything is 5 star. In pandemic, people are working hard, in rain and shine. And so, I'm happy. The communication level from one point to another point is totally different.
It's just somewhere is missing something in training the message. The manager's training and role play, it would be better to understand. At the end of the day, 90%, we are happy. Things happen. I was upset with the way the technician treated me, but I did not treat him like that. But overall, I can understand his frustration. The company is just sending him everywhere around. He has to drive and traffic, his family, kids, you need to be home or he doesn't get paid enough to do this kind of job.

Sears came out for the refrigerator. It's a Samsung and we have had issues with it since we moved into the house. It was something that AHS had come out and fixed about a year ago. But according to the tech, there's something inherent with Samsung that has problems with the icemaker. It’s getting liquid all the way up to the top of the refrigerator.
This time, the heating tube broke and the Sears tech put in a new heating tube. That was about a month ago and since he came, it has been leaking. I called back AHS and Sears came back out. They found the container cracked, which he's thinking was from the ice freezing and thawing. When I explained to him what the first tech said a year ago about the water getting up to the highest part, he said it wouldn't be a problem now. Whatever he fixed, it got fixed. We haven't had any leaks since and the icemaker is working.

I was on hold for hours until days for someone to call me back. I strongly considered, at that point, canceling American Home Shield because it was so bad. I went and bought a washing machine. I just waited my time out until they could say, “Yes, send your receipts in and we'll just send you a check for the washing machine.” But I had an appliance issue recently and that worked out perfectly. It went so smoothly because the gentleman that came out to my house kept forcing the issue. “If you can't find the part and you know you can't find the part, you need to tell her that because it's going to be months that she's going to be without an oven.”

If something needs to be replaced, American Home Shield should replace it instead of trying to fix something that's not fixable. They eventually do it but it takes too much time getting to that point. But that's a business decision they make.

Sometimes AHS is a little slow getting people out but the people are pretty good. We had plugged up sinks. The tech came the next day and it took him 20 minutes to do the repair. He was very nice.

The air conditioner was just blowing hot air. We called American Home Shield. Our air conditioner was 20 years old, so the way it was configured and everything, the contractor couldn't repair it without me putting out $1,300 out of my pocket. When I was fussing about American Home Shield wouldn't cover what needed to be fixed and I had to put money out of my pocket, I didn't like that. But they offered to sell me the other one at a discounted price, so that made it a lot easier. One thing I noticed that changed is AHS doesn't allow us to talk to people as much. We just go through automated systems. But that is the world we live in at the same time, too.
The biggest thing that made me like AHS was they cover things that are obsolete. But I'm a Realtor, so I know other warranty companies are the same way now. That's the best thing for people to look for when they look for home warranty companies. The only other one that might give them some competition is another company whose name almost sounds the same that allows people to use their own contractors.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

For many years, I used to always buy American Home Shield, and over time, I realized that when I have a critical emergency, it's almost always impossible to get any service provider through them in a quick span of time for any service. This particular case ended up being unique, because the service provider that we used is a mile from our house. I scheduled them directly as I wanted them to get here fast because it was an urgent issue. Then I called American Home Shield back and they were able to switch that request over to this service provider, which was fantastic, and it worked out. So I guess the point there is that when you have a true urgent need, American Home Shield almost never works out if it happens to be during a weekend. Because nobody will get back to you until the Monday following. Emergency response is very inadequate for American Home Shield.
We had a backed-up situation and we didn't know what the full scope of the problem might be. I had somebody back out to investigate that. But they cleared the immediate issue and it was like a sewer backup situation. They cleared whatever blockage and problem there were and got things flowing again, and take care of us. If you're strapped for money, it's a great insurance policy against a major system failure, like replacing an HVAC system especially for younger homeowners, it's really helpful. If you're more established, and you have a little bit of an emergency fund -- and this is the reason why I stopped using American Home Shield the last many years -- I end up better off just saving the money that I would pay in policy and using that to repair the things when things arise.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

I'm a little bit disappointed with American Home Shield. I put in the job for my microwave that's over my range. The repairman said, "You need a new one." They put the order in for Home Shield to get me a new microwave. They called me, which was fine, and said my microwave was on the way and they gave me the stock number for the microwave. By chance, I looked the stock number up. My kitchen is stainless steel. They were sending me a white microwave. I called them and I said, "That won't go in my kitchen. My wife would have a fit if she comes home, she got a stainless steel kitchen with a white microwave. You a female. How would you feel?" I called them and then they all of a sudden told me, "We don't match colors." I got pissed off and I said, "What'd you mean? I'm paying for this. It's not a color, it's stainless steel. It's not white, it's not black, it's stainless steel."
I had to end up buying the microwave myself and I got to send AHS an invoice so they can send me my money back. Right now, I'm out of $500. My initial payment for the serviceman to come out from Home Shield was $100. That's the deductible. So, that was $100 right there gone. Then, I had to pay for the microwave. That was almost $400 right there. I also had to pay the guy to put it back in and that was $80-some. To top it off, I had to pay the people to install the microwave. So, I wasn't too happy about that situation. It left a bitter taste in my mouth and me and my wife are deciding if we will go somewhere else with our business.

When our dishwasher needed work, the tech came promptly and fixed it. He's been here before and he's very good. With AHS, on some days, some things were good and some things were not. But they've gotten better because when our water heater went crazy, it took a week for them to do something. That sucked but they finally came through and did it. We had to pay extra because it needed upgrading and they didn't cover that, which was sucky as well. But it is what it is and that was a few years ago.
