I filed a claim for my laundry but it was a simple fix. The techs caught something that was there before that was leaking as well. Recently, the furnace stopped heating up after a certain temperature. It would just shut off and I would have to restart the AC and do it again. AHS set an appointment right away for me but it took Doctor Cool a while to get to my house. They had to come three separate times. The first time, they changed the motherboard and that wasn't the problem. The second time, they adjusted some things but that wasn't it either. The third time, they redid the motor and the furnace has been working since.
AHS should partner up with somebody else because Doctor Cool had to come up three times. We didn't have the furnace for two days. AHS doesn't have overnight service. If they're going to warranty for something like the heater, AC or flood issues, they should always have overnight service.
Fedelyn,

The pump wasn't circulating the water. I put in the claim. American Home Shield had the provider. ABNation came out. It was the very next day. They were able to get the pump going again, with my existing equipment and said if there were any future issues with it, to just call back and they would get contacted again and be taken care of, reevaluated and taken care of. Lo and behold, it happened again a week or so later. I called back into AHS and they contacted ABNation, who was able to come very quickly. They wanted to come the next day, but I wasn't going to be around. So I was okay that they came a couple of days later. They came out and got authorization to replace the motor on the pump. They went ahead and did that quickly. And it seems to be working. So, I'm very happy. Jordan, the gentleman that came, was very courteous, professional, timely, knew what he was talking about and how to get it done. He was terrific.
I've owned my home for a number of years now. Unfortunately, during the past couple of years, I've also had to have to replace a lot of things with just they were at the end of life or they broke. A lot of expensive big ticket things. My fear is that I would have to keep doing that with some other things. And it would be a real problem for me to do that. My brother had been an AHS customer for a while and he suggested it. I had heard about home warranties, but never gave it too much thought. And I just said, "I think this would be a true financial advantage to me to have this kind of program to help me take care of some homeowner needs going forward." And lo and behold, I had another need and it was great. Not only does it cover the expense, but it did the hassle of finding someone to do the work and getting them out there at a timely fashion.
Normally, if you're doing this stuff on your own, putting the cost of it aside, finding someone who's trustworthy and who's going to show up and do it right and not overcharge you, that's a lot of legwork. So, I would have to take time out of my day to do that kind of legwork, which means time away from work or from my family. So, it was a real advantage to me. This can be financially advantageous to you, give you some peace of mind. It's helpful. Just assess what things you would need and talk to the sales rep about which plan would be best for you.

High Priority Plumbing came out within 24 hours, did the job and everything was great. I did my claim through a service contract I have with American Home Shield. They called me back in an hour and the plumber was here within a few more hours. The guy was great. He identified the problem, isolated it, solved it, kept everything clean and left.
Overall, the experience with AHS is a little bit more complicated. They're okay with the small stuff like plumbing. When it's bigger stuff, major appliances or major repairs, they’re a little bit more challenging to work with. I've been with them for at least a decade. My entire previous house was under AHS and I considered canceling them at one point. I just bought this house, so I'm probably gonna run it for a little while. But when something big breaks, they're really hard to get ahold of. If you've got a place with a lot of little things that you know are going to fail, it's a great idea. If you're worried about replacing or repairing major appliances, they will ultimately tell you that you need to replace something but they may not cover it to the value of which you're going to need it replaced.

A bathtub drain had broken. It turned out not being something from normal wear and tear. I ended up having to pay another plumber to fix it. But, the techs that AHS sent came out and looked at it, and told me everything. Everything’s working well now. I like being able to do my claim online with AHS. So far every vendor I've dealt with has been very nice, professional and on time. I recommend everyone to get AHS.

In my recent claim, the breaker wouldn't stay on. I figured it was the switch itself, and sure enough, it was. The electrician came out and replaced it. It was affecting the dryer, the utility room, and the garage light. Having American Home Shield is good to have for peace of mind. I had gone through three water heaters and it was very hard to come up with 600 or 700 bucks every time.

For the most part, it's been all right whenever I file a claim. If it's someone that I've used before and I saw that they did good work, that's who I ask for again. When the water heater went out, I told them right off the bat that I wanted someone that would do a good job. All-American Plumbing came and did that. The guy that did the work was one of their top technicians. Any time I have anything done to my house, I always watch, and we held a casual conversation while he was working.
Then sometimes I don't like the work of the people that AHS sends out. When the motor went out on my AC unit, it was replaced. However, the contractor wasn't so good. Now I'm noticing that my AC unit is very loud on the outside where the fan runs when it wasn't like that before they placed that. But I didn't complain about it and I left it like it was. I just didn't notice until after the job was done for some days. But if that need comes up again, I won't be getting them.
American Home Shield is something good to have. It's just that there's a lot of stuff that I don't understand. When something happens in our home, I always call and ask what's covered and what's not. With the water heater, they said all parts and components were covered, then that means everything. But when they came to install, we had to pay for the replacement of the new pipes and the little white bubble that sits on top, so there was some misleading.

There was one time that AHS didn't have the part for something and they wanted to cash out. We found the parts online and they took care of it. This happened again and the last time, my issue wasn't resolved. My furnace was not working. But it started working right before the gentleman came. He tested it and the furnace part was okay. But I have a thermostat and an alarm system and he called for someone else with more experience to handle the communications there.

I've only had to use American Home Shield once, but it worked out well. I had a problem finding someone who could do it in the timeframe that was available. But AHS was able to find me a vendor who could come to my home, and he did. He found what he thought the problem was. So, he left. He said, “I will get the part and I will come back as soon as possible.” He called me on Thanksgiving morning to say, “I have your part. Do you want me to put it in?” “Yes, I do. It’s Thanksgiving.” He said, “It won’t take long. I’ll have it ready for you.” He came, and he was in and out in 20 minutes. So polite.
I recommended AHS to someone yesterday. There are things we worry about. We got a home, a kid, a job, now we got to worry about finding someone to fix our appliances. I said, “If you can find someone to just do that little part and get somebody good in there, that would be worth it.” Plus, the monthly premium is not high, and AHS offers so much.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

I've used AHS on four or five different occasions and they've always come out within 48 hours. They were really quick with getting to my house to try and correct the problem when I had a claim for the dryer. They sent a service technician out but the dryer was only five years old and he suggested that it was not cost-feasible to repair it. I opted out for AHS to let me buy a dryer from one of my places like Best Buy and they're going to reimburse me. They said that they've already allotted $735 for reimbursement.

Updated on 01/13/2022: This is a continuation of a previous review, Leaking Toilets. Neither the contracted plumber Rooter King (first one) nor the (second plumber) Supreme Plumbing have completed any work on the 3 leaking toilets approved for repair. Multiple calls to AHS customer service and no resolution. Stacy replied on the previous review for this issue and stated AHS would be contacting me, no contact... disgusted!
Original Review: The issue was three leaking toilets. These folks came out, assessed the situation, looked at them, said they would have to order parts. They supposedly went to their vendors to order the parts. Two weeks later, came back and took one of them apart to take the parts with them to the vendor. Because they said, “Well, I don’t know what the vendor ordered, and the vendor’s having a hard time getting what they needed. So, we have to compare it.” So instead of a picture, they decided to take it physically over there.
They came back half a day later. The tech said, “Yeah, they don't have these parts.” I said, “Well, shouldn't we have known that two weeks ago?" And he said, “Yeah. Unfortunately, they ordered the wrong stuff.” “Okay. So now, how do we get it repaired?” He said, “Well, they're not going to be able to match this part.” I said, “Okay. So how do we get it repaired?” He said, “Well, we'll just replace the flushing mechanism itself to a regular flushing mechanism that KOHLER has on there, if that's okay with you?” I said, “Yes, that's fine.”
He said, “We will need to contact American Home Shield and let them know that we're going to just switch those out. It’s probably cheaper anyway, because we don't have to go through this entire mechanism that you have here that was installed in the first place.” Because that's what came with the toilets, what they call the rapid flush system. It really isn't. It's just a home, fancy look to it. But they left. After they left, they never came back. So a week later, I called him. He said, “Yeah, we're not going to be able to repair it because you had all that stuff installed after you did the toilets, and that's not part of our contract. Our contract says that we only replaced original parts. And we couldn't find the parts, so we don't know what it needs. Well, we got paid our 75 to assess it.” That’s it. And he hung up on me.
I called AHS. They said, “I can't believe that you guys paid for this.” I still got charged for the service call, because they decided to go ahead and close it. AHS shouldn't have. But I understand that they were going by what the plumber reported. But the plumber reported that they could not repair the part. So instead of contacting me, they went ahead and paid the plumber, and never said a word to me at all. I always got the, “We will call you for sure in the next 48 hours to let you know what's going on,” I never got a call back. I hate the way it sounds because that doesn't mean that someone can’t still do their job. If they did their job, then that means they would follow up with me, “I'm sorry, but they're not going to be able to repair it,” or, “They're reporting this. Is that the case?” “Well, no, that's not the case.” But it's always communication overseas. So the unfortunate part is that it's not a local situation, and it's not something that I could manage.
It's obvious. Those toilets were all installed in 2008. So, almost 14 years ago. The mechanisms were in there that long. Unfortunately, they all failed at the same time. All of a sudden, they're all running. And it's like, “Okay, can someone just come out and check them and see if we can repair them?” “Sure, we can repair them.” Then, nothing.
We got a second plumber that came out, did a good assessment on it and said, “Yeah, we can repair that. That's not a problem. Let me go back to them, let them know what they need.” And I'm hoping that the second plumber is going to do the job. He seemed to know what he was doing and understood common sense. So hopefully, that's where we're headed. But so far, I haven't heard back from AHS on whether they approved it or not. And I haven't heard from the plumber whether AHS approved it or not. But I'm sitting here waiting for the last four weeks on trying to get repaired of three leaky toilets.

I had a contractor come out and do a service on the unit. One of my breakers for one of my heating elements was going out. The blower motor was making noise and I thought it was normal. They said it wasn't. When they told me that, I made the call to American Home Shield and put in a service order. Now that they fixed it, it's quiet. The contractor knew what they were doing and were timely.
AHS is great. If I've had issues, they've came through and got it fixed. Any questions I had, they were able to answer. The only time I had an issue was when I did a service order for my water heater. At that time, I didn't know I could request somebody. They sent somebody out there, and I didn't like him. I called them back and told them not to ever send that company and they made notes. They went through their way to make sure that if I didn't request a specific person, they wouldn't send that company out.

The heater wouldn't come on. The breaker on it melted. An electrician came and they replaced the breaker. It’s a fail-safe. But they replaced the inside breaker and it worked. Then an HVAC person repaired the actual fan. It might have been something with the fan speed or the motor. It wasn't totally not working, but it was functioning slower, and he repaired that. American Home Shield's price goes up every year. Other than that, I've had good service with them.

I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. Everything is lovely. I made a claim Sunday night after Christmas and that Tuesday, I had a technician out here, so that was pretty swift. My stove wouldn't switch from broiler to baking and everything came out well. I wanted to write a check and the tech kept saying not to. After he left, I looked on my phone and realized the service charge had already been debited from my account. The service charges went up a little bit but a thing that's good about it is we're already charged before a technician comes out. There’s no more cash passed at the door and I like that.

But once the part came in, they came out and installed it, and all was well. Everything's working great right now. The techs were professional, friendly and showed good customer service. It was my first claim with American Home Shield and everything went smoothly. The technician said that AHS is one of those who they would come out first because they pay for each trip. An hour or so after I submitted a claim through the American Home Shield website, I got a text message acknowledging my submission there. Then immediately, maybe an hour after that, I got another text message saying that it's been assigned to AH Appliances Repair. What happened was they didn't come out immediately. The repair person called me, and he said he wanted to do an online diagnosis. I said okay. Then he sent another link, which when I clicked on that link, it enabled a video on my phone that he was able to see. He asked me to turn it on and then show him what exactly was happening.
He diagnosed the problem. He said, “Okay, the motor is gone. We need to replace it. It might take a week or so.” He said that he would call me the moment he received the part. A couple of days later, he called and said, “I received the part. I'm in the neighborhood. Can I come and fix it?” I was not at home that time, so I told him. He said, “No problem. Give me a time and I can come and fix it.” He did come out and he fixed it. He did a very good job. Overall, the experience was good, but the kudos should go to the repair person.

When I started to acquire a home warranty, I contacted a few people and talking with American Home Shield was simple and to the point. They satisfied what I wanted. American Home Shield is a good choice. All of my experiences with them have been above average. Recently, we couldn't get the unit to come on. It's a gas furnace that's tied into the AC. If the air conditioner compressor doesn't come on, it won't blow heat. I called American Home Shield and everything went perfect. There was a small communication issue, but that was my fault. I got texts to meet the contractor out at the property but didn't see them. But when I got there, he was there working on the unit on the outside. He was cordial. AHS called them back and suggested that we make sure they knew it was a mobile home any time we call them out for service on anything. When AHS figured out that the other company couldn't do that, they sent somebody out the same day that that guy came out and said he couldn't do it. The new guy was very helpful and made sure I knew how to access the furnace. He even looked at the filters that I have to change out and made sure that I knew what size they were, how to put them in and how to take them out. So, that was awesome.

When we turned on the heat, the downstairs wasn't heating up. But we didn't get the whole picture until after I looked at the energy bill about three weeks later and realized that our energy bill is still looking like the air conditioner is running. I went outside and I turned off the breakers and we could hear the air conditioner turn off. Apparently, the air conditioner fused itself into the on position and has been running nonstop since at some point in the summertime when we were using it. Then, when I turned off the breaker and forced it to shut off, ice had accumulated on the unit. The ice that accumulated was way too much and it dripped down the tube that goes up to it through the house. There was water leaking from the ceiling in the master bedroom.
American Home Shield sent someone who came out, got on the roof, and said they couldn't get into it. They said there's no access to our air conditioning. I don't even know that they tried because there is access. It is a gate. They kind of walked out without anything and left us hanging for a week. I called American Home Shield and they were able to address it. It was kind of challenging. The support kept saying the tech diagnosed it, reading from a script and telling me what was going on instead of listening to me. It took pulling teeth and calling a second time to get someone who was able to say that one of my options is a second assessment. It was kind of tricky but it ended up nice.
I told them Excellence Air is who I'd like to work with, who was on their list, and the tech came. In 10 minutes, he was able to see what happened. He opened the gate in about two seconds. He laughed and said that there's a latch right there and that it was easy to do it. He fixed the unit and he replaced the little solenoid that has the switch. The very next morning, it went cold. For some reason, the heat didn't work. He came again the next weekend and he did nothing but the unit started working. We kind of chuckled that maybe it was just stage fright that it didn't work. But he followed up and it's a pleasure working with that guy.

We had a garbage disposal and a kitchen faucet that needed repair. The first contractor AHS assigned to us here in the Los Angeles area made an appointment. Then, he called up that day and canceled. He said they're too busy and made another appointment. I called AHS to complain and they sent another contractor. The contractor called and said they'd be out. Then, they brought out the garbage disposal and fixed the sink. But the first garbage disposal they hooked up didn't work so they had to go get another one, which we did right then. The tech went somewhere and brought another one out. They hooked it up and everything's fine. Also, the faucet no longer leaks. It took a while but we were happy with this claim eventually.
Then, our stove wasn't working and I called AHS. I told them the pilot light is on but the oven doesn't light up. They sent some guy out and he looked at it. He wasn't sure if they could get parts for the stove and said he'd get back to me. They finally called four or five days later and said they couldn't find the parts for it. They gave the dollar value for a new stove, an equivalent and we went looked at the new stove that they had authorized but it didn't fit in the space. It was too small.
I checked around locally and I found a guy that repairs old vintage stoves and refrigerators. He came out the next morning and fixed everything. $1,200 was the credit for a new stove and his bill was 700 and something. I called AHS to get the 1,200 or at least enough to cover the repair that AHS's contractor didn't have a clue how to do. But they wouldn't cover it. They said it's not their policy. I asked to speak to a manager and they said a supervisor would call me within 24 hours. that was last year. I'm not real happy with American Home Shield. My wife and I are thinking about canceling our contract.

I've heard they did no calls because nobody works over the Christmas holidays. He said, "Are you gonna be home tomorrow, Monday, the 27th?" I said, "Sure." They said, "We'll be there between 8:00 and 10:00." They showed up at five minutes to 9:00. The toilet was leaking around the base, so they had to replace the seal. We purchased a house about a year ago and we didn't know what was under the plumbing. A lot of our drainage was really slow and we snaked it as much as we could for ourselves thinking we took care of it. But we noticed that our plumbing was still a little slow. We submitted a claim with AHS and the tech went in and snaked it as far as he could go. There was a lot of buildup and he unclogged our drains. He was wonderful, friendly, and kind. He did what he had to do and it was a rainy day, so he even put shoe covers on once he came in. So it was amazing and he was better than the last technician that visited for the problem with the shower handle. We had some leakage there and he was charging us a lot of money to get it done. We paid him to come for the services then we had a letter sent over that it would be more.
That was a big fee and we felt like he was going in circles. We asked him if it was repairable or not and he said he had to come back. He had to purchase some stuff he didn't have in his truck, so that took a long time. We decided to go to Home Depot, buy some things, and try them out. Then we ended up taking care of the problem ourselves.
We also had a technician come in when we first moved in who replaced the sealant in one of our toilets because the water was coming from under the toilet. He told me that the sealant was not good, so he doubled up the wax seal on the toilet. I thought that was fantastic and that we'd never have an issue. But just before Christmas this last year, the toilet started draining from the bottom again. We noticed that the bolt was off and the toilet seat was rocking. And it's a private bathroom, so we know it's not us.
So we were going to call to get that checked, but we had people coming over for Christmas and this was two days before Christmas. So I felt bad and we thought we'd fix it ourselves. We called a friend of ours who's a a certified plumber and a contractor. He came out, saw the issue, and had to change a bolt. He said the sealant was fine but the bolt was just out of place, old, and rusted. So he put in a new sealant and new bolts in it. And he only charged us 75 for the whole thing. All in all, we're enjoying American Home Shield because it’s a quick service. Not only are they taking care of plumbing, if ever something happens to my roof or electrical work, I can call them. I have a lot of plumber and electric friends but not a roofing company that I can call. And I added that in my service, that in case of a leakage or anything on my roof, AHS would come through for us. So, I appreciate that and I'm not going to change my services.

American Home Shield sent All Brand Appliance Repair and they fixed my dishwasher, my freezer, my refrigerator and my washing machine. The freezer was making some kind of weird noise. Some kind of fan was out of place, so the tech fixed that. Then, the motor part on the bottom of the refrigerator was shot. So, he cleaned all that and he replaced that part. It runs like a champ now. The dishwasher needed a new motor and some kind of sump pump thing. He fixed that. Then, the washing machine got everything new, part wise, in it from the ground up. He just rebuilt the whole thing instead of replacing it. The tech's name was Will. He's awesome. If I can have somebody come out, I'd request him. The only problem I have with AHS is each year, the monthly charge goes up. So, if you can pay for the whole thing up front, I would do that. When I first got Home Shield, it was like $49 a month and now, it's almost $65.

It's the same thing for the water heater in the garage.

There was something with the plumbing and some sheetrock had to be cut to get to whatever the issue was. The contractor came to do that. The best thing about a home warranty is the potential to have some peace of mind that if something goes wrong, it won't be a devastating cost. To this point AHS has done a great job of covering. Fortunately, everything's been fairly minor. But the warranty is a good value for the price.

We had a previous home warranty company and it was evident that they were just selecting the cheapest. So I started looking around, found American Home Shield. And the fact that they have a history of being the oldest home warranty company, and they're still operating on the same basis, means that there has to be a lot of happy customers. Having the reputation and the history, evidently, they're doing things right.
We have an Apollo Heat System. The first person that was recommended to us didn't work on those units. I came to find out when I talked with him. The unit needs to be checked with the company to make sure they work on the unit before American Home Shield assigns someone. So, I contacted AHS back and they assigned Comfort. I called them and they said that they did work on the Apollo water heaters. I submitted the claim on Thursday, and they were out Monday. They were fantastic. Everything's working fine.
When something like that happens, I make one phone call to the home warranty company and they help set up a repair in my specific area. I also like that they do all the negotiations with the repair company and I know what is covered. The only drawback I see is if they go with a repair company just because they're cheaper. But I get the best first and I don't have trouble later.

The website is pretty good but sometimes, it isn't obvious what to select -- what's closest to the issue that I have. Also, I can't see what I submitted last. One time, it said that my claim was completed and it wasn't. I went back and updated it to say that these weren't complete but I couldn't see that claim when I went back in. I could see that they had approved one of the three issues but not the other. That was confusing and I ended up having to call the appliance people. But they said I have to call American Home Shield. It was a little bit challenging. There was a lot of extra work but I like having the warranty service.
One claim I had was when the dishwasher was not functioning properly. Seven Star Appliances came out and they figured out the problem the first time they came out. The concern I had that they did not detect was that there was a hole in the drain hose. When they put it back in, we thought it was all working fine. It ended up causing water damage that I had to file a home insurance claim on. I've got major work now having to be done. They have to rip out my wood floors and cabinets and stuff like that. Also, I had to file another claim through American Home Shield to get the new drain hose because they said that that's now a new issue, which seems a little strange.

American Home Shield should be honest and say, “We’re not gonna replace. You either pay the labor cost or the equipment. And the customer has to pay for the labor.” They should not mislead folks to thinking if the heating system goes, they have a home warranty to help them pay. People need to know upfront what they're getting, especially for the major components of the house. That’s gonna cost the most money. If I’m paying 100 something dollars a month, and I had AHS for over two years, I could have just saved that and paid that myself.
I don’t like American Home Shield's service. They were supposed to replace my boiler and I’m still waiting for a check from them. They said, “This is for replacement,” then they said they’re gonna pay me out $1,200, which is not even paying for labor costs. This is my first time putting a claim after years, and nothing. My boiler costs 9,500, including installation, so I have to come out of pocket and pay that.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

The repair guy knew exactly what needed to be done. When he got ready to leave, I looked over to make sure he resolved it. I hate that you have to wait up to 48 hours for the service although for this incident, the contractor came out a little sooner than I would have expected. But if you have a plumbing issue, you would rather go outside of American Home Shield than to have to wait. I would still recommend them. I've never had any shoddy service from them. It's just the wait.

I had an issue but it took a long time for American Home Shield to resolve it. I had a sink that overflowed, and there was water damage from the incident, and according to them, all they do is deal with just cutting off the water. If there's any water damage, they're not responsible. I don't feel that's right. To me, that wasn't enough service for the money that I paid for them to come out. Then, instead of getting it done in one day, I had to wait about three days before the people that called me came out. They diagnosed an issue, but they possibly knew what was going on when I told them on the phone what happened.
I also had a refrigerator that went bad and the people that came out to fix it, diagnosed it wrongly. Then they had to replace the refrigerator. It’s just that the people that they sent out took a long time to do what has to be done, and it was inefficient. When you see the commercial, they say they come out the next day, which is not true.

The guy from Infinity Plumbing came out and he tried to cut two small holes in the Sheetrock, but he found it. He heard it and fixed it immediately. He was a good guy. He's very efficient. As far as the claim submission, I did it online. American Home Shield's website is pretty good. I received the name of the company and I was told that they would be contacting me, and if they didn’t contact me within one day, I should call the number that they gave me.
The leak is gone, so that's great. One thing I asked them was, “Oh, okay. Am I supposed to fix the Sheetrock?” There were two holes. Luckily, one was behind the washing machine and one was in the garage. I kind of mentioned I didn't have anybody to call, but they sent a questionnaire asking how happy I was. I said, “Oh, I'm happy with the fix, but do you fix the Sheetrock or do I?” I never got a reply so I just said, “The heck with it,” and I fixed the Sheetrock. Overall, AHS worked out pretty well for me. I wasn't really gonna keep the home warranty but I'm kind of glad I did. It has paid off.

Every time they came out, they were pointing a finger at each other but they were very kind. The plumbers were kind of confused with all the piping that was done to this house. They couldn't recognize some of the piping. Some of them could not take the filters off that was supposed to be taken off. They didn't have the right equipment. That was why somebody else had to come out.
They put new pipes on my water heater but it still looks like something's leaking out. The guy who solved everything was the welder who came for the well. I don't think AHS vets their people as well as they could be.
But they really worked hard to get somebody out here to fix this thing. Comfort First then came out and they finally fixed it. They were great. I filed this claim online and the website is horrible. I don't like it because it doesn't let me talk to anybody. I can't have a chat or at least I couldn't see how I could and I can't request the person that I want to work with. Comfort First is the company that worked on my heat pump before and I loved them. If I could have just requested them, to begin with, that would have saved a whole lot of problems. Some of our outlets didn't work but the contractor helped us understand which switches control which outlet. The service was very good. Another one was for the garage door opener and that was resolved satisfactorily. They were able to schedule the garage person within two days. I also had a leak under one sink and we had an issue with the water pressure being too high coming into the house. But the biggest concern for me was the hot water heater because the temperature in California that whole time has been in the 40 at night and in the morning and I had no hot water. And AHS didn't schedule the plumbing person until January 4th. So, that was two weeks.
I got a call from Plumbing Incorporated and they told me on the 23rd of December that the soonest they could come out was January 4th. We were out in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.” I called AHS back and told them that I needed to cancel it. They said, “Okay. We’ll give you your $75 credit.” I waited and waited for that credit. I called twice on it. Finally, they called back and said, "You should be getting it any day now.” About a week later, the credit showed up.

With AHS, I like that I don't have to search for someone to come in. Someone reputable comes and fix the appliances when they break down. The refrigerator stopped getting cold. The tech repaired it and it was fine. He just had to order the parts, so it took a few days. He was great. But when my dryer was not working, they sent someone out and he just looked at it. He said he couldn't fix it. So he recommended someone else come. But then I got a letter saying that it was considered maintenance. But if I don't know why my dryer wasn't drying, I'm not sure why it should have been considered maintenance, because it wasn't. The first guy that came out said that he couldn't fix the problem. But it was working a lot better by the time the second person came out and then they said it was a maintenance issue.

Our heater just wouldn’t stop blowing out any cold air right at the beginning of November. South Placer came out and they were wonderful. The technician was very appropriate, COVID safe. Came out the first time and said, "This is something I can't just fix. We'd have to order parts." So, he called the boss guy, he came out and sold us on a new one. And he was able to sell us on a new one, but the money that they would give us for a new one, put it in there. So, it helped. And our heating bills look like they are going down. We have heat, we have cool. It feels good. I would recommend the vendor. If I had to go work for them, I would. Top notch company. And I was really surprised that American Home Shield contracts with them. I like that things are covered. Call in, $75 copay, our air conditioner, pump or dishwasher gets taken care of.
However, the claim we had before that for our dishwasher, the guy came in. He was 20 feet away, denied the claim and said, "I did sign away my rights." He wouldn't even look at it. That was a horrible experience. So, we wound up buying our own new dishwasher, which was covered. Be prepared to deal with horrible customer service. If you can fight through it, it's worth it, because of the payments. But if you can't deal with horrible customer service, don't.

American Home Shield is pretty prompt. If a put a service call in within 24 hours, somebody is getting back with me. Their response time is pretty quick and the contractors are good. But I had one service request for my AC and the techs said, "Oh, well, we couldn't find anything wrong." and they leave and I'm still having the same problem. If I put another request in, if it's for the same problem and I have already paid the deductible for that request, I shouldn't have to pay another $100 deductible. When the new contractor came, they found something else that was wrong that the other contractor missed and I still had to pay another deductible on top of that. But other than that, the $100 deductible is no problem with me. It's cheap.

In the previous service I had, I was on hold for hours, and there was a big process of getting someone to come to my house. The people on the customer service lines were very nice and helpful. But it was kind of a little nightmare. I assume that everyone there is outsourced from somewhere, so when it's after-hours of United States time, they should tell people, “It's after-hours, so we will not help you,” versus having me being on hold for three hours and then telling me that I'm not gonna be helped. Otherwise, the vendors that AHS had been assigning contacted me quickly and it was pretty good. I'm still waiting for the reimbursement which was supposed to come within a week but didn't. I emailed them today and I followed up. But then it's a warranty company. The last service I got with them was great. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

The microwave had stopped working. My wife was heating up coffee. She said that she heard a pop. She opened up the microwave and the glass plate that goes on the inside cracked and it stopped heating. I submitted a claim online. I find the website to be easiest. Some of my appliances that came with my home were older ones. So getting serial number or model number may be an issue. But with that microwave, it was strange because we haven't had that microwave that long. So for it to do that, it was odd to us. But everything with it is functioning good at this point. Sears' technicians have been really good from my experience whenever we've had to have service done. One of their technicians has left and started his own business and he's doing really well. And we keep in contact with each other. So, I've developed the friendship with him and one of their sales reps just by them coming out to the house and servicing our products.
Whenever contractors came out, they diagnosed the problem and would tell us exactly what the problem is. And they would go through the procedure with having to notify AHS, whatever they have to do with AHS in order to get the parts ordered for the appliance, and having the parts sent out to us so that they could come back out and fix the problem. My experience has been great. My sister is selling her home now. I recommended AHS to her in the process for the new buyers.

Street Plumbing came out and took care of one problem. But they didn't take care of the other problem which is the main problem that I needed them for. They actually made it worse. It's a second-story bathroom and it was a bathtub that was leaking. They cut two holes in the ceiling downstairs. They said it was not leaking and nothing was wrong. I stood on the ladder, put my hand up and told them my hand was wet. The plumber insisted it was not leaking. He cut another section out and said it was dry. I looked at the sheetrock and told him it was wet. He took it outside and said it was dry. I rubbed my finger on it and the paper that was obviously wet came up. He agreed that it was wet and I told him to fix it. He told me my house is over 100 years old and they couldn't fix that.
My house is not over 100 years old. It was built in the 80s, which makes it 40 years old. He called his boss and his boss kind of argued with me for a little bit. I listened to him and when he was done, I explained to him how you turn on the water and the water leaks. His person went up to try to mess with it and broke the faucet so it was even worse. I had two holes cut in the ceiling and a broken faucet. The guy said, “Let me talk to him and have him fix it.” I gave the guy his phone back and went inside.
About 10 minutes later, I hadn't seen him. I went out and found out that he left without saying a word. He was supposed to come up, take pictures of the problem and send it to us, but he didn't. I went up, took pictures and texted it to the guy that owns the plumbing service. He said, “Those are really old faucets and they tend to fail on the inside of the wall. I got to talk to American Home Shield.” But they didn't. I called back to American Home Shield and said, “This guy is non-responsive and I still have a bathroom now that I've shut down that we can't use." They said, “We’ll escalate it and let you know within 48 hours.” Weeks went by but they hadn't called back. I called them again to ask what was going on. They said they'd call me within 48 hours but weeks went by again and nothing happened.
I called them again and told them I wanted to speak to a manager. I spoke to a manager named Alyssa. She had chickens crowing in the backyard but she was very professional. She said they had to investigate it. Weeks went by but nothing happened. She promised to call me within 48 hours but she didn't. We had this other issue and I figured to get them to fix it. The guy came in and fixed the problem within 10 minutes. I showed him what the other guy did. He said, “This is a normal faucet. It's probably broken on the inside. If I get a work order, I could probably fix this in an hour or two. We may have to dig into the wall here to get to the pipe, but it looks okay.” I told him they said that the faucet was really old. He said the piece down is a little bit older and he hasn't seen it before, but it was not a big deal to replumb and redo it. He said there was another piece that holds and bonds it.
When I talked to American Home Shield, the rep said, "I see this has been going on, you've called a number of times, and we've escalated this. We have to talk about this internally and get our internal issues fixed.” They said that they're no longer using that other plumbing company because they were non-responsive even to them. This was before Christmas, and I'm still waiting for them to call back after their internal investigation. Since August, I've had a bathroom that I can't use. I'm not happy. They fixed the toilet and that was good. A contractor came in on a stove and said the stove needed replacement. They were going to send me a check. I called American Home Shield and told them they didn't send me a check for that. They said they would then send me the check but I still haven't received the check. I also had a contractor do a free cleaning of the furnace. The guy came out, did a good job but then tried to sell me a $700 job.
I had a dryer fixed, too. The first guy came out and said there was no issue with it. But it wasn't heating so I had to call American Home Shield back and ask if they could have have someone else come out and fix it. They sent someone else out. The dude said I had two fuses blown. He tore the dryer apart, replaced the fuses, cleaned the whole inside and did a great job. The dryer collects all that lint everywhere and I didn't realize how bad it was. He said, "You don't want anything that could spark a fire.” He showed me how to clean it. It was great service and that was from Sears.

My freezer works side by side, but my refrigerator warmed up, so I called American Home Shield. The girl on the phone was a bit hard to understand, but very helpful and did a good job. I wasn't sure if they would cover it, but I put in an order then AHS said, "Okay. They'll contact you in 24 hours." They gave me the name of the place. I waited an hour then I called Sugar City instead. Lashiqua answered the phone, and she was great. This was the week between Christmas and New Year, a really bad week for the refrigerator to go out.
It was on a Tuesday afternoon. I said, “So I just want to see, am I on a waiting list? How long am I gonna have to wait?" She said, "I just so happen to have an opening in the morning." They were here at 10 o'clock, got in my fridge and said, "Ma'am, your fridge is frozen up behind the wall and it's a manufacturer's defect.” The guy put a mister over the fan, moved it around a bit and defrosted my refrigerator. By noon, in two hours, I was up and running and I had my fridge back. The guy was so professional, did a great job and it's absolutely perfect.
I've had other good experiences with American Home Shield as well, but I had to wait three or five days before they would come out. It also took a long time to get through. On the other hand, Sugar City Appliances came so fast, made my life better and I was so happy. They were so on top of it and I was very satisfied. This was the best experience I've ever had dealing with American Home Shield. I absolutely would recommend Sugar City and American Home Shield.

AMERICAN HOME SHIELD is a fraud company. They take money every month religiously and when it is time to fix the appliances they don’t do due diligence. I have a dishwasher that was leaking and when we 1st called they sent a person to check and he said rubber around the door needs to be replaced and next day he came in and put the rubber seal and said it is all taken care of. When we used a dishwasher on the same day, it started to leak again and we called the customer service again saying it is not fixed and needs to be looked at again. And they said they opened a ticket with resolving department and it takes 48 hours to call us back with the status.
Since we didn't hear from them we called them after few days and said to customer agent that we haven't received a call from resolution department. For this again they opened a ticket with resolution department for not calling and asked us to wait again 48hrs (this is going on from almost a month and still waiting for them to call us). Every time we call them to ask for the status or to dispatch a new service person to fix, they seemingly need us to pay $75 again to send a new service guy to fix the same issue that initially started. We already paid $75 initially and that work is incomplete and now want us to pay again.
I do not understand this company. There is no proper person that I can talk to or they do not call us back as promised, Every time it is a new agent to whom we have to repeat the history of what happened and how it has been a month and still not fixed, other than giving a solution or transferring to their supervisor they open a ticket again, and it is a same drill… wait for 48hrs.. God this company is into cheating customers and extracting money but when time of fixing they have millions of reasons. Well my Dishwasher is STILL NOT fixed even after a month and still going back and forth with customer service to know when they will call us with update or send a new service guy to fix. Very disappointing, AMERICAN HOME SHIELD is a fraud company, be careful and save yourself by not choosing them.

My back doorbell stopped working. I have a Ring on the front and then I have a doorbell in my hallway. It kept lighting on and off and making a noise. The tech from City First Electric came out. There was a piece of something missing from it so he replaced the doorbell and replaced the back buzzer. City First Electric came fairly faster than normal. I've been threatening to cancel American Home Shield because when I put in an order, they would refer me to somebody and the contractor would call. They'd say they're coming out and then say they'd be late behind schedule, reschedule, and don't call me back. I'd have to keep calling American Home Shield. One time, it took almost two weeks for a contractor to get out to my house. I was not happy about that.
Also, when I applied for service, I started off at $50. Then I didn't even know they went up on my bill an extra $10 since I've had it. If I'm paying you almost $60 a month and when I call and they can’t have anybody come right out, then I have a problem with that. I might be wasting my money. Also, I shouldn't have to call back to follow up on why the company they subcontracted out didn't follow up. But the contractors have been real professional, although the electrician from City First Electric told me that all my wires are wet and it’s no good and he was incorrect. And American Home Shield said my house is too old and they aren't responsible for redoing my electric. But I had a professional come out and he said it had nothing to do with it. He also said I do not need to upgrade.

The contractor did a good job, but American Shield was horrible. I was without heat for a whole month. They said that they couldn't get the part of the thing that went up into the attic. There's a purchasing department. They said, “Oh, it's already being sent.” All of a sudden, it was even canceled once. And it was redone again. They said it was sent. Guillen kept on calling them, “This lady, she'd be calling us.” Guillen did it for me for a whole month. This lady, the one that works there, I would call and she would call for me. It was a compressor that they needed. They said, “Well, there's nothing we can do about it. That's just how it is.” They didn’t even try. My granddaughter was freezing.
I finally called AHS and I was so upset, I started calling up the last month every other day. It went around in a circle. I said, “Well, what's holding it up?” They would go around like, “Look. It shouldn't be nothing holding it up. It's already been purchased. And it's already been sent.” They told me once it was already here. But it wasn't because I called Guillen. I said, “How come you're holding it up?” And they said, “We don't have it.” They didn't have it the whole time. AHS told me it was already sent, and they told Guillen it was already sent. Guillen got part of it but they didn't get the other one. They kept on doing that for three months. The only time they finally did it, it was a week before Christmas. I told them the date I had an appointment with the lawyer. And by darn, it came the 28th. Isn't that something?
Guillen came right away as soon as they could to put it in. They have other people so they came as soon as they could. They were excellent. It’s probably somebody was not doing their job. They didn’t care. I had a water heater put in. Right away. No problem. But now when the air conditioner and heater went out, Guillen said that they just ordered it for this gal. She said, "I hope it doesn't take three months.” I said, “I hope not,” because it was cold out there. I had to have little side eaters all over the place here.
AHS ought to just find out who the order was sent to. They said the purchasing was done. And for purchasing to the people talking, they're in Hong Kong or wherever they are. Some of them couldn't even speak English. It was hard to figure out. I called the main office to see. And this gal from the main office said, “I'm over here at the main office.” And I said, “You're not at the main office. I can hear your kids back there.” I still have AHS but I don't even know if I'm going to keep them.

If I could find a competitive company that provides the service that I'm used to, then I would be more likely to move. If I was getting $1,000 worth of work done, then it would seem practical because I'm getting something for my money. But right now, I'm paying for something that I'm not getting anything for in every year and I have to go up because of what the market is, which is not fair.
American Plumbing & Rooter’s service was great and the tech provided some great insight as to what the problem was. And when he left, it was fixed. For my current house that I live in, I've only used AHS one time in five years because it’s a new build home. But I had AHS on my rental home and an older home has more regular reoccurring issues with them. There were a couple of times that the same thing happened again. So, I'm paying another deductible for a service that the contractor should have fixed the first time.
If the contractor comes in and does a service on a leaky faucet, within a certain period of time that service should be warranted if they have to come back for the same service. I'm paying $60 to $100 for them to come as a deductible for me, just to do the same thing. Because if I paid for myself and say that I want them to come in and fix this and I paid them, and this thing broke again months later, I assume they’re gonna come and replace the part again because it shouldn't break that quickly for turning on water and turning off water.

We're waiting on a check because we paid for a brand-new stove. The old one was not worth repairing. The service was very frustrating for my husband because he tried several times to get in touch with people. Either nobody knew anything about it or American Home Shield didn't get in touch with the mechanical service company that came to the house. There was a big lack of communication. Also, I understand things get more and more expensive, but we started out with $30, and now we're paying $70 for a home call. But we're gonna stick with American Home Shield because of the benefits out of it.

I love Brick Street. I came across them the first time when something was wrong with my shower. The tech that came out was phenomenal. He fixed my issue with no problems. This time around, the claim was for my garbage disposal. Originally, American Home Shield assigned me a different plumbing company who never responded to the request. When I called back, I told them, "Since I had such a phenomenal experience with Brick Street the first time, can you send somebody else back from Brick Street?" That was exactly what they did. That guy came in, looked at the problem, diagnosed it, fixed it within seconds, and told me everything that I could do to prevent it in the future.
The fact that I'm able to call American Home Shield and get with these contractors allows me to get stuff fixed at a reasonable price. All of my experiences with them to date have been good. The only thing is they're raising the monthly fee without letting anybody know. If they can let somebody know when they're about to do those things, that will be perfect.

I'm not enjoying American Home Shield's service as it's been hard processing work orders. I put in a work order on the 26th of December for the ceiling fan and it still hasn't been resolved. I also put in a work order on the furnace and it's been an ongoing problem. A brand-new furnace less efficient than a 30-year old one that we took out was having some pilot issues. I was out of $2,900 for the installation along with a thermostat for $100-some.
The guy kept making excuses saying that the technology of the new unit was less efficient. Anybody would think a brand-new unit should be much more efficient. It didn't make sense. When he said that, I and the tenant got irate to the point where the tenant wanted to get physical with this guy because she had her thermostat jacked up to 90 degrees. She's anemic and has underlying health issues and this thing was not getting hot and they tried to adjust it. So, my contract is in jeopardy. I have escalated this telling that we were not satisfied. We met with the installer yesterday for the third time to no resolve. Just horrible customer service, the nightmare from hell.
AHS paid the company between $5,000 or $6,000 for that unit. We kept asking for another vendor to correct that problem. The guy didn't even pull a permit to install that. When AHS finally reassigned it for someone else to take a look at it, they asked me some probing question and I told them the truth, they didn't give a copy of any permit. That new vendor would not touch it with a 10-foot pole so we didn't move on to someone else.
I have five contracts with AHS and every year is like pulling teeth. I have had some good outcomes. But I got in this patch recently where it's been one thing after another. I understand that, as a property owner, you're going to run into things. But I deserve and expect better customer service. I pay every time on time. When it comes to refunds or just getting a simple work order done in a timely manner, I cannot understand 90% of the representatives. They're just trying to give the canned answer and it irritates me.

When I spoke with the AHS rep, it was good. She was friendly and she met my expectations. The tech told me the pilot was dirty and that’s why the heaters stay on. He explained to me that when that happens, the heater locks for three hours and then during those three hours, blows cold air. That was why I was telling him that the heater works whenever it fails. Usually at night, it was blowing cold air. But at 6:00 in the morning, it was blowing hot air. He told me if it didn't work, just to give him a call. But, it worked. He was right. He was also really quick. He was very knowledgeable about what he was doing. Also, he was telling me about my ducts, that they were old and most likely, need to be replaced. Because I don't get enough air in my living rooms and I have a lot of air in the rooms.

With my AC claim with AHS, that was really frustrating. They sent out two different people. The first two guys that came said nothing was wrong with the AC unit and that it was just simply too small to carry the size of the house. They said it was only made to air condition a 1,600 square foot home, and my home is almost 3,000 square feet. This was during when we had a heatwave out here in California right before Christmas and it was 107 degrees outside. It was ridiculous. We're the original owners of the house. We bought it seven years ago as of last September and we bought it brand-new from Lennar, and this was the first time that I have ever had issues getting the house cool.
I called AHS back again and they sent a new guy out. The only thing that sucked was I had to pay another $100 for the visit, but he came out and he said there was no Freon, and he needed to repressurize it. He fixed it and it works now. Other than that, we had a dishwasher go out the same week and they gave me a Lowe's gift card for $850. We paid the difference of five-something at Lowe's. The dishwasher is working great. Everything has been great other than that one thing. For the most part, I've been really happy with AHS.

When we walked in the hallway past our air conditioning unit, we could hear a drip. So, my husband was said that maybe that was the freezer open. But we kept looking for it and couldn’t find it. Then, it got warm in here at 80 degrees that day. So, we went to turn up the AC and I told my husband that it was not kicking on. He started investigating a little bit and that was when he found that the coils on the AC unit had frozen solid. He checked around our heater to thaw the coils and when the coils got thawed, it wasn't getting cool in here. So, I got online and had it looked at because we don't know what was wrong with it.
AHS has improved since the last time that I used them. The last time I used them, it was four days before the person that they put me in contact with even came out. When we had a hot water heater years ago, it was five days before we got a plumber out here. The plumber told us that the hot water heater had to be replaced and when they submitted the paperwork to American Home Shield, they were saying it was going to be about another week. We fixed it ourselves because that was ridiculous. But this time, the tech called me the very next morning and they came out that day. He diagnosed the problem within about a half-hour and he was able to do the repair. He also had what he needed on his truck. All in all, my experience exceeded my expectations.

American Home Shield's service is great. I've had people that came and took care of stuff. If there were more problems, they would come back and fix it. The only thing that was weird is I had a problem with a Whirlpool tub. The policy says what's covered, but then when you get into the nuts and bolts of it with a Whirlpool tub, there are very little parts that are covered. It's only if the motor goes down and not if there's a jet or the faucet. That's the same way with a refrigerator. You would think everything in it would be covered, but they would say only a couple of things that go wrong with it. Aside from that, the recent contractor that came was great. They were friendly, prompt and did the work. There were some things that they needed to come back because they might not have had parts and they followed through with that.

Coverage is VERY limited and will use "NOT normal wear & tear" clause on almost everything. Location: Los Angeles. Entire experience feels very SHADY. I had two contractors that came to my home and said they needed to unclog a plumbing situation from the roof. And I questioned that. It’s resolved. The last plumbing company was the third one, and they did a remarkable job. I thank American Home Shield for following up. Just the contractors that they sent, sometimes I don't know if they’re just trying to get over it. Because if I don't question their type of work, I will get screwed.
If AHS sends a contractor to your home, they should send the same person so they are more familiar with what is going on. We were getting a delivery because our dishwasher went out. This event occurred on December the 11th. It took near January 2022 to get this resolved. I shouldn't have had to keep calling, but I did. I was concerned about the long wait. And we had to go like we were in the boy scouts, get the little things to wash your dishes out. But my wife ordered something she thought was to soak your feet. It sufficed for what it is. We have the plumbing situated. And we have a new dishwasher that was put in on yesterday because of the delay.
One time, AHS took forever to respond to a different type of plumbing issue in my kitchen. And I had to pay almost close to $400 out of pocket, which I was upset. I wanted to cancel, but my wife talked me into keeping it. But it is economical nowadays due to what is going on in the country now throughout the nation, COVID. So, I'm satisfied.

Our recent AC claim is not going as good so far because the company has come out three times to fix it. They're trying to assess the situation, but it looks like it may be a bigger problem, though. At first, it was the igniter for the heater and they fixed that. Then, it ended up being a wiring issue. They fixed that. It then went off again. They came today and they tried to troubleshoot it. But somehow, it came back on and they couldn't find the problem. We'll see later on today 'cause it usually works for 12 hours and then it turns off again. The company has great customer service and their work could be good, but they just haven't found out the real issue yet. I had another claim about my microwave a few months back and that worked out fine. Just having a home warranty, if something breaks, I can get it fixed.

We end up having to pay out of pocket and we also pay for the service call of whatever the issue is that can't be fixed.
We have had a history where I disputed everything with American Home Shield. I had to fight for the heater because they wouldn't cover it. I had American Home Shield in New Mexico for almost three years. I just moved to Oregon about three months ago and I closed on my house about a month ago. The new owner bought me a year of American Home Shield. I did that in New Mexico too for the people who purchased my house. In New Mexico, I liked the timeliness of finding people for me and their friendliness and knowledge. Up here in Oregon, it's difficult because I'm in a rural area.
There are certain things that frustrate me about American Home Shield and their people. They don't handle certain things, which should be handled. My bathroom faucet was leaking and it's the type of faucet that it can't be repaired. You have to buy the whole thing. American Home Shield only covered $250 but the faucet was going to be 500 and some dollars. A lot of the out-of-pocket expense is pretty expensive. I requested, in lieu of, to have American Home Shield just send me the check for the $250 and I would go ahead and purchase the faucets and put them in or have somebody put them in.
Also, I had a claim in and when I wanted to add to it, I was told that the contractor had already been here so I could not do that. I had to do another claim. But the contractor did not close out the claim yet so I figured I could add to it. I did not like that I had to pay another $100 for an additional claim and I got pretty upset about that one. I could understand if the claim was closed and I had to call in.
When I was having electric issues when I unplugged something and sparks were flying out of the outlets and the switches were not working right either, Cowboy Electric came in and replaced all the outlets and switches. Yes, as far as it is a small repair, replacement of garbage disposal, or a leaking faucet. They will repair it. Anything above and beyond that, if it is a water heater replacement, air conditioner big repair or furnace replacement, they will find all different reasons to deny your coverage.
My house is a tract house built by a builder with a detached garage in the back of the house and there is a room on top of the garage. Garage is a part of the main house, the room shares the roof of the garage and therefore it is covered under the coverage of the main house. Well that was told by my sales rep when I signed up the policy. I have emails supporting it. In fact I called up sales division today and told them the exact situation and said I would be signing up a new policy and they said that it is covered. But when I called after the second technician, I asked the customer service person to please make sure to send somebody that was certified or capable of working for my Samsung, because it's a waste of my time. But when the tech came out, he said he couldn't work on it. So, then I had to call back AHS again. At this point, it's very frustrating for me. But they sent the fourth technician and he worked on it. But it still didn't freeze. He came out again and put a new compressor in. He told me that after that, there was not much they could do. On the 30th day after he put a new compressor, I noticed that it wasn't freezing still. I called back on the 32nd day and by this time, the 30-day recall period had expired. It had only been two days after it had expired, but AHS said I had to do a new claim to have someone else come out.
I asked them to send the same person that was here two times to work on it who already knew the history of this refrigerator because if they sent somebody new, then I'd be starting all over again. It made sense to me, but it didn't make sense to that person. They said, for some reason, they couldn't send the same technician and they sent someone new. That person came out and told me that since the compressor had been changed, he couldn't do more. But their office said that the refrigerator was still under warranty. When I called Samsung to check on that, that was a mistake.
So, I called AHS back and asked if they could be able to call Samsung and make sure that what they they told AHS what they told me. Nevertheless, American Home Shield sent another technician even after those notes, which I told them weren't correct. That person was from Savvy Appliances and he agreed that the appliance needed to be replaced. He had a conversation with American Home Shield to explain to them, but they wouldn't take his expert opinion. AHS is sending out another person this Saturday. I've had this issue since July of 2021 and it's the same appliance that I've been trying to fix.
AHS doesn't want to go to the next level and I'm so irritated that they wouldn't send the same technician who is certified to work on Samsung refrigerators. When I asked if I could talk to a supervisor, they couldn't get me a supervisor. They told me one would call me the next day but I never got a call. When I called and told them I was so frustrated with this, the customer service on the other end who was English-speaking stopped talking to me. When they heard that I was upset and complaining, they didn't hang up the line, but they muted me and it happened twice. I had to stop because I'm bilingual. I started asking for a Spanish-speaking customer service and that was a way for me to get somebody to listen to me again.
But I've also sent an email to American Home Shield explaining my frustration and the fact that I have to take off work and wait for a technician that usually gives you a four hours timeline. They couldn't give you even from 1:00 to 12:00 and I have to make sure I have someone to open the door. But I never received a response on my email and it is not good customer service when they don't acknowledge their client.

My washing machine button kept sticking and it took a long time to dry the clothes with the dryer. We called Home Shield on the phone, and they had someone come out fast and fixed my washing machine and dryer. Another company came out and looked at my oven and vent, and AHS is gonna buy me out. It’s taken awhile because of COVID. We had to stay in because five people came down with COVID, so we haven’t picked that oven yet. It took a while to get my refrigerator fixed also because we were in the middle of COVID and the company couldn’t get a part for my refrigerator. When the water wasn't going down on our plumbing, a plumber came out. I’ve recommended my friends to American Home Shield, and they went with them. My sister in Illinois did as well.

I like that with AHS, I get stuff fixed when it needs to be fixed. They are also quick to get somebody here when there's an issue. Recently, there was water leaking down underneath the bottom slide-out in the refrigerator and I couldn't tell where it was coming from. It would make a sheet of ice underneath there and then you couldn't pull that door open. The tech had to come and I don't know what all he did, but he got that all fixed.

American Home Shield has been great and I love that I don't have to worry about big things going wrong. We have had to replace our water heater and our stovetop as well as our washing machine. We've had some big things over the years since we've had AHS so, it’s nice to have it. We had to pay for the hot water heater and whenever you're gonna replace a hot water heater in California, you have to pay a permitting fee and we might have upgraded. Same with the stovetop, we took a payout and then, we found another one because we wanted a specific model. We did the same with our washing machine. There was an amount and you could go to AHS’ website and look and see what was available and we could have replaced them but we wanted specific things.
We had two faucets that started leaking and A-1 Aid Plumbing, the contractor, fixed them. But the guy who replaced it put both of them back on upside down. To do it wrong both times is kinda funny. But other than that, they were great. Everyone has been helpful and I've had positive interactions. Having AHS makes it simple and worry-free. It takes away the big concern that if something big happens, you're not gonna be stuck with thousands of dollars of repair work or replacement if it comes to that.

There was still a slight problem but they came back as soon as they had the part and fixed it, and haven't had any problems since. AHS seems to be reliable and most of the subcontractors they've sent out have been able to fix problems. I haven't had problems with some contractors except for one issue that I'm having problems with right now. I don't know what to do to fix it and that's with Plumbers, Inc. I appreciate the fact that I paid one set price with American Home Shield and no matter how many times the company comes back and forth, it's still that one price. They said they could replace that and they'd sell me one for $5,000. I tried AHS and they were able to fix it. The only thing I had to pay for was 860 bucks for the refrigerant. Recently, I had a faucet leaking in the master bedroom and AHS also took care of that. It's good to have somebody to turn to when you get a problem. We've had issues for several weeks concerning the air conditioning system, specifically in the heating mode, and there have been multiple problems associated with the system. I contacted American Home Shield via the website and requested service, and fairly shortly thereafter, I got an email that said that the contractor had been assigned. As I was reading that, the contractor actually called and that was about as quick as I have ever gotten a response.
The first one that came was Carolina Air. The initial evaluation said that we needed a part and it took them four or five days to get those in. They came out and attempted to repair it. They went to check the refrigerant and said that there was supposed to be 8 lbs. of refrigerant there and I only got a pound left, so they knew there was a leak somewhere, and they decided not to recharge it. We put it into the electric heat mode. It ran like that for about three days and then it wouldn't shut off.
I went back and contacted American Home Shield again and told them that my electric furnace isn't functioning properly. So then, I was contacted by Comfort First. They came out, took a look at it, and changed out the sequencer, which actually turns the electric heat on and off, and that functioned for a period of time. Then the fan wouldn't go off so they came back out and changed the fan control. It ran fine on that for a period of time and then it wouldn't shut off again. It didn't continue to heat, so they had to turn the system off.
I contacted back to Comfort First and told them that the problem has not been resolved. The guy came back out and said that the system needed recharging. He wasn't aware that we had decided not to do that. I told him that we've been through it two weeks ago and all I was just looking for was to get the system back running in electric heat mode. He went back and looked at the indoor fan section and said that everything was working fine. I told him that it wasn't. Then he said that I got their number if it causes a problem. He didn't pay any attention to what I was saying. I knew I would have an issue.
Sure enough, the next day, I had the same issue. Again, I contacted Comfort First, and they said that they will send their master technician out. They also contacted American Home Shield and got authorization for the guy to come back out again. Their master tech came this time. I had dealt with him in previous years and I know him to be a very competent guy. He went down, changed the sequencer out again, there had been a miswiring in the system itself, and he fixed it. Now it's been running fine for the last week. I've been very happy that American Home Shield continued to authorize the folks to come back out until they found the root cause for the problem.

We got a house and a friend recommended American Home Shield for the home warranty so I signed up with them in December. When our heater broke and our water heater also wasn't working, we placed a service request. Contractors came and one was really good. The other one took a day to contact me. It was hard to contact them. It was for the heater issue and we were freezing in the house for a day. But in the end, their guy came and fixed it. For now, I'm happy that the heater is working.
Things are easy when you have a home warranty. If something breaks in your house, you have to pay a service fee even if they don't fix it but at least you don't have to be searching companies and calling someone that may come and do a mess. You just call your home warranty, place a service request and they send a contractor which probably they already know is good just to make it easier and more affordable. In the case of my heater, the guy said it looked good and that he fixed it. But if it still gives a problem, American Home Shield would replace it. That is a pretty good deal, especially with the heat or air conditioner that may break and you have to go on a big expense. When you're paying years and years of your home warranty, they will cover that and will change it.

My kitchen sink faucet came apart without warning. The top portion of the head came off and water was squirting. We called it in and the technician came out and assessed the situation. Generally speaking, his assessment of the faucet was it was quite old and that it wasn't mounting all the way down into its slot properly. He said he could try and take it all apart and put it back together again. But the chances were good that it still wouldn't mount properly.
So he recommended a replacement faucet. It just turned out that I happen to have a replacement faucet on hand. Rather than waiting for that stock to come in and to schedule an appointment with them, I said, “Can we install the faucet that I've got?” He said, “Yup, we can do that.” He installed the replacement faucet for me. I have yet to ask for a credit from American Home Shield for the replacement faucet that I supplied. But overall, it was a very good experience. Whitney Holdings has been out at least three times for us. Once for a dishwasher repair, once for a garbage disposal repair. Now the third time for a faucet and every time, they've been excellent and awesome.
I bought the service of AHS when we bought the home and I renewed for a second year. I've used the service a number of times with some mixed results. But what I've learned is that, calling to make sure I describe the service needed correctly is helpful. Because at least on one occasion, I tried to do it through the website and they said that I miscoded it and it caused complications.
I've had trouble sometimes with their dispatch taking too long of a service provider. When we had a broken refrigerator, it took two weeks for someone to come. And not having a refrigerator for two weeks was very inconvenient. There had been moments where I’ve been very frustrated with the service. But overall, I've benefited from the value of the service. Customer support is a little difficult because a lot of it is offshore. The reps have American names but they're all from India. I prefer to deal with people that are in the United States and speak American English.
My biggest headaches have been with my kitchen appliances and the company that American Home Shield uses is very good. I had a situation where my Coldwell Banker handyman was unable to get a light bulb cover off of the inside of the oven in order to install a new one. It had never been done since I bought the oven in 2013. The handyman couldn't do anything so I contacted American Home Shield, paid my $100 deductible, and they sent out Xigent. I've had Xigent out here before because I had a problem with the freezer portion of my refrigerator last year. Because of COVID and the inability to get parts, it took four months to get that rectified. But that was not the fault of the American Home Shield or the supplier. The stuff was stuck out in the middle of the ocean and couldn't get off the ship or whoever makes the parts was closed down.
There's also an ongoing problem with my heat pump system that I had installed when we bought the house. All it had was a central heating system and I needed air conditioning to be centralized. Over time it started going downhill. One supplier that came out here for American Home Shield said it needed to be replaced. When they told American Home Shield this, they got a second opinion. The second opinion said it also needed to be replaced. It says on the contract that if the home warranty can't fix something, they will replace it. The service company tweaked the system and did something to it. It worked fine for a couple of months then it went out again. I'm getting tired of paying $100 to have somebody keep coming out here after the two months period had expired and tweak the system again. It is illegal because of the Environmental Protection Act to keep adding coolant.
On the new contract this year, a callback for a repaired item is only for 30 days or less. I'm not too happy about that. Hopefully, the repairs are going to work. I purchased a whole new heating and cooling system worth almost $20,000 and American Home Shield would not help me pay for it. Other than that, a benefit of having the home warranty is if the person you're married to can no longer do any handyman jobs, you have the home warranty. To pick up the phone and call a repairman is $400 or $500 a pop.

My husband's brother was here, and he said, "Oh, yeah. When I was in the Atlanta area, that same company came to my house and they fixed me right up."
The new company told me to call and see about the part. It was a coil that needed to be ordered, and with that situation, it took a bit of time. I didn't hear back from American Home Shield or the company about when the coil was coming or if it was approved through American Home Shield. We're gonna call the air condition company right now," and everything got taken care of from there. The air condition company said, "Hey, your part is on back order. It'll be in the end of January." I'm still waiting though.
On the other hand, the refrigerator guy got everything taken care of. He was here for 35 minutes and it didn't take him too long to diagnose the issue. He said he was gonna have to order a part, so I had to schedule a time for him to come back. When the part came in, he installed it, then the refrigerator still wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and said, "Hey, the refrigerator's still not working with the new part." They sent the same guy out, and he said, "Oh, you don't have any Freon in your refrigerator." The first person showed up and said it was the main board. And from there, it has been confusion. This third vendor said it's the board. We're still waiting.
I've talked to people at American Home Shield and told them how dissatisfied I was. But they tried to hit me for another fee. I pay a $75 fee when they have a vendor come out. I got some rep one day that said, “You have to pay another fee.” I said, “It's the same problem. It's the third vendor.” She said, "Well, I can’t send something out unless you pay it.” So reluctantly, I paid it because I want the dishwasher fixed. I got a survey and gave them a negative review, which I got their attention because they called me and said, “We'll refund you $75.” I said, “Thank you.” I'm trying to sit here patiently and trying to get this thing corrected. And by January 17, that will be two months if it goes that far. The third vendor said they will order the electronics board. I said, “Well, what point do you replace it?” I couldn't get an answer.

My dryer wasn't drying my clothes. And it had like a squeak sound that would happen during the cycle. I called American Home Shield and the contractor came out to fix it. We went through a little mix-up there in the beginning. This was one that AHS was supposed to do for me pro bono because there were problems earlier in the year. So, they gave me a free call. They said they would have to send it up to management for approval and they would get back with me. Three weeks passed and I called them back again to find out what was the holdup. They said, "Oh, okay. We got someone." And I told them I wanted someone with the rating of 4.0 or better. At first, the lady was really nice. She gave me one person. I looked him up. I said, "No. They have a 2.7 rating. I don't want them." So they found someone that had a 4.5 rating. That is the company that came and they did an excellent job.
We have an understanding now that those are the type of companies that I like. I like the ones that have better ratings. And they may rate well with AHS, but I look them up, too. And if they don't have good ratings, I don't want them coming. I'd rather have the best when it comes to doing stuff in the home. But once we got that understanding together, everything was fine. Always advocate for what you want and what you need, because it's your home. And if someone comes in and they mess up, it's your home. So try to go with the better companies if at all possible. And thank God that AHS has a plethora of companies that can accommodate. And they're usually good about coming out. I've had them come four or five times over the years. But usually, everyone that comes is professional, they do what needs to be done, and they get in and they get out.

We had a backed up sewer line and the techs took care of it the next day after I made a claim with AHS. Their website was easy to use and about 20 minutes after I hit the submit button, I got a phone call. When the techs showed up, they were able to get access to the backyard, explained what they were going to do, and got the sewer line going and flowing again. Their service met my expectations. But they didn't clean up the mess and I didn't ask them to clean up the sewage built up because that was our responsibility. So we went ahead and cleaned it.

I had to wait a week to get somebody out. I had no ice and I'm right at Christmastime and New Year's. The tech put in an ice maker in a couple of weeks ago and it still didn't make ice. The contractor was like, “Well, would be another week, week or two, if we can come back out and put another icemaker in. It's probably bad.” And I'm like, “I'm not waiting that long.”
Hold times with AHS are way too long. Vendors complain all the time about how long it takes for them. They're like, “That’s what I hate about working with these warranty companies. You can't ever get through.” And the guy goes, “Just forget it. I'll find the part here, and I'll call them later.” I called AHS and got retention on the phone. I said, “I'm leaving unless you can save me as a customer. I'm leaving unless you can get somebody out here before another week." She said, “I'll wait to see,” which is okay. That was cool and she got another person out there and closed that ticket out.
The tech came the next day. Lucky, he was really good. He worked with Sears and Kenmore, so as Whirlpool, for 25 years. He said, “It's not the icemaker. It's just the water valve thing. I'll have to order it. I can get it. It's in stock. I'll be back out tomorrow.". I go, “Thanks.” I got a New Year's party and a family Christmas and I got a bunch of people. I can probably buy the ice but it's expensive at about 399 a bag. And it's just a hassle.
American Home Shield is telling me to save a few dollars and they're gonna order the part. Before, it doesn't usually take long but with everything going on with shipping, people are way behind. I had to wait for the part for two weeks. When the issue is something that somebody needs and AHS can't get the part within a week, they should let the person doing the repair get it. He could have gotten the part and had it the next day, and gotten the repair done.

One of the porch lights was out. We checked the fixture and it looked like it was a wiring. We submitted the claim online and American Home Shield's website was easy to use. We were then given the name of the company that would come out and they reached out to me to schedule something. Then, I met the tech at the house and the service was good. He wasn't able to fix it but he told me what the problem was. We had CFL bulbs in there, but those fixtures were made for regular bulbs and so over time one of them got damaged and the other one is starting to be damaged, too. The tech said that if we changed the bulb, we might be able to save it and we replaced one.

Recently, the AC wasn’t cooling, and the technicians were there immediately. It was a switch. Everything is working okay now. The only issue I have is that my deductible is $100 and I have a friend that has the same insurance, but she’s only paying 75, so I don't know why it's so high. Nonetheless, I will recommend American Home Shield. It's always good to have it. Better to be safe than sorry.

The plastic cracked on the freezer drawer and I reached out to American Home Shield by phone. Within 30 minutes, I had the contractor calling me. It was cool that within two days we had an appointment and they didn't even have to come out. The tech did a virtual. I showed him a video of the issue and he took pictures remotely of my fridge's serial number. He said he would order the part. A week later, it was installed. The tech brought it out and replaced it. He was there probably for 30 minutes and was done. He cleaned up and left no mess.

I made a service call when my icemaker stopped working and the tech fixed it. I told him when I called that I smelled a little gas in my oven. So he checked it and he said that my igniter was going and that was where the gas was coming from. He asked me if the stove works and I said it works good. Then he said, “Well, don't do anything to it. I'm going to order the part. I'll call you back. But there's a difficulty. The company will call.” The company called and said they no longer make that type and model, and for me to go out and find one. So that was what I did. Now I’m waiting for my oven to come in and somebody to put it in. I'm waiting for the check to pay for it.
The claims process went pretty quick. It took me about three tries because some of the AHS service reps don't speak English well. Since they have an accent, you have to listen real hard and tell them to repeat. But the last one I spoke to spoke pretty good English and handled everything for me. I sent the information he asked for and he said, “Give me about 10 or 20 minutes. Let me check with the office.” Then he came back and said, “Everything was approved. You just need to get it.” I got it and sent the receipt in. If you don't have AHS, you should get them. They give you good quality service. Even the representative they sent out to repair everything was very nice and mannerable, and very knowledgeable.

My washing machine was glitchy something and for a period of maybe 10 days, when you turned it on to a cycle, it would go straight to agitate while it was trying to fill. Then all of a sudden, it would start working right. But it worked right for a month and it did it again. I called AHS to have it repaired and it so happened that the bake element of my oven went out as well. AHS had me do a video of what was going on with both of my appliances and they had me screenshot the model numbers.
Then, a tech came out and by the time he got out, it was six days later and the washing machine had started working again. But the oven didn't. So, he assessed it and ordered the parts. He was professional but I was upset about that because I already sent the video and the model numbers. It was a little irritating to go to all that trouble to do the videos and it didn't cut out any time. And the parts were sitting in a ship off the coast of California somewhere and we had to wait. The first Monday after Christmas, the came out again, fixed both appliances, and they're both working fine now. It's much better to pay $75 to have two appliances repaired than it is to go buy a new oven or pay two different people to come out and do it. But the process was not as easy as I remember it back in the olden days because back in my previous home, if I had a problem, I just told AHS what it was and they would come out with the part on the truck.

All in all, AHS has taken care of some issues and it’s one of the better companies.

I have a request out with AHS and I'm having a hard time connecting with the vendor. They replaced my dishwasher and the first people that brought it out were really good. But the wood floor was in the way and I had to take that up, so those people just left the dishwasher. In the meantime, AHS assigned my claim to a different company and I had to call these people about half a dozen times before I ever heard back from them. And yesterday, the guy finally said they'd get back to me by the end of the day today. But I never heard from him and now, I've left another message. Other than that, AHS was pretty quick in processing my request for the service and the first vendor was also very responsive. They've called me back several times and told me that I could get AHS to just supplement the order because they didn't put, "To install the dishwasher." They just put, "To drop it off."

American Home Shield's great. I like it. They've always come out and fixed whatever I needed. If it needed replacing, they would let us know the status of when the part was coming in, when they would be back. I don't mind the monthly payment. I know my family's comfortable and my house is protected. However, there was one company that came out to fix the heat pump outside and they did not know what they were doing. They came in here twice. Finally, American Home Shield said, "We're gonna go with somebody else."
Recently, for the furnace, the techs were replacing the parts that they thought it was, but come to find out, it was the motherboard, which is the circuit board, which controls everything. The circuit board was saying it was this. So, they replaced that. Then the heat would go out again, they would come out and do their diagnosis. The motherboard was saying it was this. So, they did that. Finally, they figured out it was the motherboard. The motherboard was lying. The motherboard was telling everything else was wrong, but the problem was she was wrong. They came out last time and fixed it. They were here so much that they were like family. We were on a first-name basis. I'll recommend AHS to anybody and everybody. It's worth it. It covers everything.

A couple of years ago, the timeliness of AHS was not that great. The people who came told me what was wrong with the air conditioning system in the basement. But they didn't have the parts and they just dropped my claim. So we had to get somebody else to come. The techs worked on it and they had the power capacitor. And then the air conditioning work.
Three months later, when it started to cool off in the fall, the heat didn't work. I called AHS again and they called the same people that found the part to fix the AC. They told me that there was a part needing a replacement for the heating system. They got that part and it still didn't work. They came out again and they had missed a wiring step. They finally fixed it but they had to come out three times.
We had a leak from the dishwasher in our kitchen and it soaked through the floor into the ceiling of our basement. I submitted a claim on Sunday night and first thing Monday morning, I got a text saying American Home Shield assigned a plumber. Prime Plumbing was gonna contact me to tell me what time they were scheduling a visit. I called them myself right away just to confirm that we needed service because we got a leak somewhere in the neighborhood of the dishwasher. And they sent me a text saying, "Please don't call us, we'll call you." Two hours later, they called and said, "We're gonna send somebody out there" and they came within three hours.
He determined it was coming from the bottom of the dishwasher so he transferred my claim to My Tek Services who had come before to work on some other kitchen and laundry appliances. They disassembled the whole installation of the dishwasher and determined it was coming from the sump. They disassembled that and there was some food debris inside it. They cleaned it out and replaced the sump. The dishwasher stopped leaking. That was the fastest turnaround I've ever had with AHS.
I'm gonna have to ask for a recall though because the techs replaced a latch on the same dishwasher because they said it was broken. It seemed to be working fine but now the control panel is acting up. It's really annoying. I load everything up, shut the dishwasher, it latches itself and I push the button to pick the cycle and nothing happens. After 10 minutes of negotiating with the control panel, the dishwasher will start working.
Around the same time we had the dishwasher leaking, the first-floor furnace was making a vibration and a light rattling sound when it was running. The tech came right away and he took off all the panels upstairs in the attic. He found that the motor was having problems so he replaced that. He was only here an hour or two at most. The furnace is quiet as can be and it works fine.
