I'm happy with American Home Shield's service. Some service guys came out once because the heater was not working. They replaced some sort of electronic components. It worked for about a week. It went off again. They came out earlier this week again, fiddled with some stuff and it seems to be working again. So, there's been two visits in the last two to three weeks. In my situation, my parents live in the house, but I own the house. So, they called the number and explained to them what happened. Because all of my information is on the account, I received some email saying, "This person will come out on this date." According to my parents, the service guys showed up when they said they would. They solved the issue. So, they've done a good job.

My toilet was draining very slowly and backing up. No matter how many times I plunged it, it would work but then it would stop working. So it was totally unusable. The contractor came in and they were very pleasant and accommodating. The tech said he needed to snake it and then he looked in the back of the tank. He was a very nice guy. But he couldn’t even snake my toilet until he got ahold of American Home Shield and got it approved first. It took him over a half hour to get it approved by American Home Shield. For anything they do, they have to get it approved first. American Home Shield should be conscious of the contractor's time also. I really felt bad for them and I actually apologized for American Home Shield for not being more accommodating to them when all they needed was a yay or nay on snaking a toilet.
The tech said he fixed the running of the toilet, but it's still running and leaking. But I feel too bad to have them come back out again. I’m letting it run because I felt that bad for them, that they spent two hours here, doing something that should have only taken 30 minutes tops. Also, I don't want to pay another $75 to have them come out.
When I had my dishwasher go out on me, the contractor came out, ordered parts, and then came back. They did a great job. I also had a claim on my stove because the glass in the front broke and shattered all over my kitchen. But American Home Shield denied that claim and said it wasn't normal wear and tear. I hit the glass with my knee. I’m 75 years old, so it’s not like I got a powerful knee. But they wouldn’t do anything about it.
I've been with American Home Shield for 10 years and working with them can be an absolute nightmare. Other times, it's perfect. But majority of the time, I've had difficulties. They do get people out here and the people that come are qualified and do their job. But I would like to see better cooperation with American Home Shield and with the people that they subcontract to.
Cheri,
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Robert and I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

American Home Shield's service has been pretty great. I had a microwave that just went out. I was a little upset it took a little while to get the microwave in, but somebody came and installed it. It didn't cost me anything. The technicians who came to check it were really quick. So, as soon as I set it up, they came the next day, took apart the microwave, looked at it and they were like, "Hey, this is gonna cost more than to just get a new microwave. So, just gonna call it down," and they were out. Then, once I ordered the microwave, it took like a week for them to get it. But once they got here, it took the other guys 30 minutes to put the microwave in. They're super professional and I like it. Having the warranty is a peace of mind. If I didn't have them, I would have had to pay 300 and some dollars to get a new microwave.

AHS's coverage is pretty thorough. But, I wish the people answering the phone were more competent. Right now, it's hit and miss. Sometimes, I get a representative who is knowledgeable and able to handle the call. Oftentimes, they tend not to understand what's going on and it can be a bit irritating. Initially, we had a plumbing issue with one of the faucets. The contractor was a disaster. They took apart a faucet in one of the bathrooms and they couldn’t put it back together. Also, they wanted to charge us out of pocket for $380 just to put a stopper for the water to be turned back on. So, that was not a very satisfying experience. But other than that, it was good. Last year, we had a couple of appliance claims that were handled well. We also had the tune-up service that also went through American Home Shield. That went okay.
Recently, part of the pipe pole was leaking. The techs couldn't determine right away where the problem was. So they did a really thorough job. They found it and then replaced a section of the pipe. We were most satisfied with Wilkes Plumbing.

There was a leak in my system, and it flooded my floor in my kitchen. Climate Masters came out after I did a claim to American Home Shield, and it was just a little clogged drain piece on the furnace. The guy was on it. From start to finish, it probably took him 25 minutes. He was pretty quick. So far, so good.

My AC wasn't working. I did an online claim. The contractor sent me a text message telling me that they received the claim through American Home Shield and they were gonna come over to my house. They were gonna contact me to set up a date that I will be available. They called me and we scheduled a date and time. When they came to check out the AC, they said that the fan motor wasn't working. I was very satisfied. They were very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. They got to where the problem was and they fixed it.

My furnace ran out. It wouldn’t light. It was blowing cold air. The contractor was very good. I was very happy with them. I actually had to call them out three times. What happened was I came down one morning and it was 68 degrees in the house and the furnace wasn't running. No heat was coming out. I turned off the power to everything, flipped the switch and the breakers, and then flipped them all back on. Eventually, it lit back up and started warming up the house. So by the time the technician came out, it was working. He checked everything and everything checked fine because it was running. So he said there was no problem, but if there was any other problem again, we could give them a callback.
About two days later, the furnace wouldn't fire up again. The same thing was happening so I tried the same thing but nothing happened. A different technician came out this time and he checked it and said that the control board was bad. So they ordered a replacement control board and said that, “If this doesn't fix it, we're gonna have to replace your old furnace.” That was gonna cost me upward of $3,000, even though I had the home warranty, in order to bring the house up to code, which I can't afford. So they got the circuit board in and said, “If this doesn't fix it, we're taking the circuit board out. And we're gonna have to replace it because we're not leaving a $600 circuit board. And therefore, this and that’s not working.”
The tech showed me he had manually lit the furnace when he came out for the control board. We cranked the heat up to 90 degrees to get it warm in the house and keep it warm as long as possible. When the circuit board was replaced, the system fired up. Everything worked out fine the day before Christmas. But on Christmas Eve, it went out again. Luckily, it was nice and warm so we didn't have to use the furnace too much. But if it got too cold, I went out there and manually lit the burners so that we can have heat, and cranked it up to 90 degrees. Then it stayed that way until it cut off and then it wouldn’t light again.
The technician came back out the day I called in, which was the Monday after Christmas. They came out that evening and said the igniter went bad. So they replaced the igniter and I've had no issues since. Both of the technicians that came out were very professional and polite. They took care of it. They were even willing to work with us if we had to replace the whole furnace because I can't afford 3,000.
I had some other issues with AHS. One is when our equipment goes bad, they should replace it with identical models or like models. I currently have a microwave that's to be replaced. They've offered me $200 to replace it or one of that they were choosing, which does not meet the settings or the specifications of my current microwave. I've also had to replace my washing machine and every time it gets replaced, it gets a lesser model. My new washing machine doesn't seem to be cleaning as well. I'm not too thrilled with it. But it was what they offered me and I had to take that.
When AHS did my dishwasher, they brought the dishwasher in and stuck it in my house for about a month before they finally got someone out here to install it. The guy who was installing it didn't even know how to install a dishwasher. He tipped it over to put the pipes on it and dumped all the water that was stored inside of it on to my hardwood floor, and he didn't bother to say anything.

When I logged on AHS, I found out that my service repair was given to Infinity Home Solutions, then I looked up the reviews for them which were beyond bad. So, I called AHS before Infinity even contacted me to ask if I could have anybody else come instead of them because whatever I read on the internet, all sorts of reviews were really bad. But AHS said no. They have given my contract to Infinity, so I had to stick with them.
The guy came and didn't contact me for the two or three days, but understandable because it was Christmas. So, maybe they were off. And the guy came on the time that they said and he looked up everything and figured out the problem, which they said was the thermostat. The problem happened after that. They said, "Okay, we're going to go back," contact AHS. This happened all in December 23rd is when the problem started. The guy came around either December 26th or 27th. Nobody contacted me until yesterday. They said, "Oh, AHS said you're not covered." I said, "Well, that makes no sense." I called AHS. They said, "Oh Infinity said this is a pre-existing problem."
I had to call emergency services and firefighters in my house to help somehow get the heating off because I wouldn't be able to turn it on, off, anything, and the house was just getting hotter and hotter. So, the system remains off. Then, I called Infinity back yesterday, they said, "We never said that." AHS said, "It's a new contract for so many days, so we're not going to pay for it." I called Infinity back and they said, "Well, we never said that. This is what their technician wrote to us."
So, I said, "I have ways to show you that my AC, my heating, everything has been okay until that day. My electricity bill, my heating bill, everything is what it should be. Plus I had an emergency there. I had to call emergency services at 1:00 on December 24th because there was something wrong. This couldn't have been there for two months. They said, "Well, we can't do anything until Infinity tells us that this was not a pre-existing problem." At this point, I've already made five phone calls and I called Infinity back yesterday, but they didn't answer. So, I don't know who's gonna take care of the problem. AHS said they emailed Infinity and they will have to wait until Infinity emails them back to tell them that this was not a pre-existing problem.
I called for the contract sometime in the middle of November. But at that time, they said there's supposed to be a 30-day period after you sign that the contract goes in effect 30 days after that. My contract would go in effect in December 17th. So, even though I signed up a month and a half ago, my contract went in effect six days before this incident happened. So, it's 30 days from then, which according to AHS is December 17th is when my contract goes in effect.
Somebody is playing games. How would Infinity know exactly when my contract started unless AHS told them? In the meantime, I have two little kids at home and I have no heating and the temperatures are in 40s and 50s. I need this issue to be fixed. And if nobody will fix it, AHS needs to let me know so I could spend my own money to do this. Because at this point, I've paid AHS for the monthly contract and I paid $100 for the service call. In all of that money, I could have got it done.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

AHS needs more competent companies to go out to people's homes and get it right the first time. The vendors need to repair things right the first time and not have to keep coming back. I’m waiting on the heating company to get back out here and I'm also waiting on the plumbing company to get back out here. The heating company that came out didn't complete the job. We realized that when they turned the heat on, one of our air conditioning units was running and that's not supposed to happen. So they need to see what's going on with the AC, why our unit outside comes on when the heat is on.
We had a plumber come out a couple of weeks ago to fix the leak with the bathroom sink. They also needed to replace the bathroom sink and they brought the wrong sink. It does not match what's in the master bathroom. Now, we have two mismatched sinks. They kept saying that they ordered another one. But it's taking them forever to get the other one. Also, the leak that they repaired on that particular bathroom sink is leaking again. They didn't repair it right.
I realized after all this time we've had them, that they have something called a callback and you don't have to pay again. We never knew about that. If it's the company's fault, they have to come back and fix what they didn't fix when they were out here. Every time they come, you have to pay a service fee of 125 depending on what's wrong. So we've been paying 125 all these years, and there have been times when we should not have paid.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

Our stove wouldn't heat. We called American Home Shield and they issued a work order for HK Appliance Repair. They never called. I called them several times and I texted them, and I got no response. And so I called back to American Home Shield and told them. That was when Sears came out. We also cancelled a washing machine claim because it started working again. But for that claim, I got the same thing, this HK Appliance, and I called and texted but never got a response.
We use American Home Shield quite a bit so I have some very good experiences. I've also had some that I'm not happy at all with. We had a plumber fix a sink and he put in the wrong parts. While it was fixed for about a month, it started leaking again. When we got a plumber to come back out, he had to go get the correct parts to put in.
Also, if we call back on something, generally it goes to call a phone bank and they must have a catalogue of answers in front of them. Sometimes it's very difficult to get them to understand. Like for the cancellation of the washing machine claim, I explained the entire thing to the lady on the phone. She said “Well, you cancelled it yesterday.” And I said, “Well, I've made a call to you yesterday.” Her supervisor was supposed to call us back but he never did. But for the most part, the contractors are very professional. They keep us informed and they clean up after themselves. AHS responds and they take of my issues. AHS has paid for everything and we've never had to argue about the cost of the repairs. Overall, I'm happy with the service. They do a good job.

Recently, the heat pump was icing up. The tech did a reasonable job on that. He put more Freon in and that was fine. The recent claim was okay but the one for the boiler was a disaster. AHS is just calling companies that don't work on boilers and don't know what to do. I had to have them come out over and over again. I had a lady, Crystal, who was an escalation specialist. She would call from a blocked number and give me no way to get back in touch with her. Eventually, I hired my own company to come and fix the problem because they were a specialist in boilers. I told Crystal I was calling somebody and she said they would cover it. Then, they didn't and they wouldn't take my phone calls.
Don't do AHS. It's going to be a headache. You call and you get this recording. The people on the phone are like zombies. They're allowed to say certain things and not say anything else. I can't get through what I need. I just have to answer the questions that they ask. I spent 10 hours on the phone and it was very frustrating. I ended up screaming at them because I can't get anything done.

I put a claim in for the dryer door. The contractor replaced the part and it was working. But I'm a very busy person, and I probably wash once a month. When I used the dryer again, it was doing the same thing. You dry it for 20 minutes, then it shuts off. You gotta wait for it to cool down before you get started again. By the time I found time, I called American Home Shield and asked could I have somebody. The second guy came out and said, "You don't need to be having this dryer plugged in. I need to fix this part. This could cause a hazard. It could cause a fire.” They unplugged it and replaced the part.
After that, the dryer was really retarded and the washer was acting up. I was calling American Home Shield again and told them it was for the same dryer. It was doing the same thing and it would be the third person. They sent the first contractor out and he said I didn't clean my ductwork, which was what was wrong with the dryer. I told him I get my ductwork cleaned on my house. We went back and forth and he told American Home Shield that I was combative because I was telling him what he was saying was wrong. I knew what I was talking about and I take care of my house but he wouldn't agree that the dryer was damaged and unrepairable. I had to prove to him that I got my vents cleaned.
I called American Home Shield and that was when they sent Elite Experts Appliances out. The guy who came out called me and we did a virtual call. He was amazing. He listened to the problem that I have. But I kept having to beg American Home Shield to fix the dryer and it took three times of me paying $100 each time before they replaced it. I pay $70.99 every month and every time I call, it’s a $100 fee. The $462 that they gave me for that dryer was ridiculous. I had to pay a $600 difference for a dryer. I'm canceling their service.

My house is 16 years old and my appliances are slowly going bad. I bought my American Home Shield warranty when I got divorced so I would have somebody to call for repairs. Now I've got a broken dishwasher and a broken washing machine and I don't have any signs of getting those fixed for a couple of weeks. American Home Shield can't get the parts or won't get them for probably 18 days. I had no way to wash my dishes.
On the washing machine, the issue is the pump. I could have gone out and bought a brand-new washing machine. But that's why I have the Home Shield. My checks to them don't bounce every month. If the company has the parts, why they can't fix the appliance then American Home Shield can just replace those parts to the company that's benefiting from being their go-to person? I called yesterday and they said, “They don't use their own parts, ma’am. We send the parts to them." That's ridiculous. For the pump on a washing machine, you can get it at Lowe's. I have three people in this house and nobody can wash clothes. The issue with my dishwasher is the latch and the pump. Repair companies should have both of those things on hand. I can hire someone else to come out and do the repair, which normally I would do, but the fact of the matter now is the principle of it. I'm just not gonna do it.
American Home Shield hopes to outwait you. I had air conditions that I replaced and I didn't use them for either of those because it was way too much. I bought the units outright. The first time I called American Home Shield was for my tankless system that would come on and work for about two minutes and then go off. When a tech came out, he had me turn all the faucets on for about two minutes. That was long enough for him to get here and leave. He said it was working and didn't even check it. I asked him to look at it because it had not worked in two days when we tried it. It only came on for 27 seconds. He said he was not allowed to touch it. He just had to come and record that it was still working. Right after he left, the system quit working again. I called the contractor back and it took them two more days to come out. American Home Shield replaced my tankless hot water system and it only cost me about $400.
I also got my tankless hot water heater fixed. But I was without water for five days over the Christmas holidays because American Home Shield couldn't get anybody out to fix it. When the techs did fix it, two of the wires weren't connected properly so they had to come back out yesterday and fix it again. There was also a control panel that needed to be put on the unit, which they don't do so I had to hire an electrician last night for $200 to put in the control panel.
I've already paid the $100 call-out for each time. It’s just American Home Shield does not tell you when they say they'll repair or replace something and that it may take a month for somebody to come out and get you the part. In the meantime, you're not gonna have that item to use. Who would want to have company over when nobody can take a shower?
I spent a lot of time on the phone talking to somebody and trying to get a resolution. With the guy from the plumbing company that came out yesterday, we parted as friends. But he was mad that he had to come back out again. I called them initially after having them put the hot water in. I'm not a scalding hot person, but the water was barely warm. We've set the heater at the legal limit for how high it can go. There's nothing else that can be done. I asked, “Are you sure it's at the highest level? Because then I didn't get the hot water heater that I had, because the other one that I had would scald you.”
When the guy came out yesterday, he said he checked. He said, “I didn't have the end caps capped off, so the unit shorted out." It looked like I had a power surge. But a power surge would have affected other items in my house like my air conditioners and TVs other than the hot water heater. Also, the power surge would not matter as the unit is warrantied through American Home Shield. If the unit doesn't work then I would get another unit. The guy kept looking at the heater and said the end caps weren’t tied off well so he would fix that. He then apologized that the temperature was only set at 100 degrees and not 120.
If I have to use this company again, I don't want any repercussions because I'll have to deal with them. When they first came out, they were going to try to get hot water by Christmas Eve. That was what the technician told me. Now, the technician may have been wrong but that's what I was told when I called back to the American Home Shield people. They said, “No. They said they will have a technician to have it repaired.” The owner of the company called me mad. “I don't know who told you you're gonna have hot water by Christmas, ‘cause I'm the owner of the company. And I can promise you this, it's not gonna happen.” I left the phone call crying.
I told him, “Listen, sir. I'm not arguing with you. I'm just telling you that I called in. They said there was a call in this morning and that a technician was gonna come out.” The owner said, “I don't know who told you that because I haven't spoken to anybody from American Home Shield.” I said, “Sir, the only thing I can tell you is that's what she told me. She called and spoke to a person.” That owner was not a nice person. I understand that he's doing warranty work because he probably can't get any other business.
With the plumber that I had come out last night that wired the control panel for me, I can now get water up to a hundred and sixty degrees. It was wired right to the unit. He said he doesn't understand why the plumbing company couldn't have handled that. It cost me $200. I had to call in after hours to do it. If they're gonna replace the tankless, they should put all the features on it and not just hand it to me and tell me to hire an electrician. If it's part of the unit, send a company to complete the task. I need my $185 back for paying somebody else to come out after hours who was a plumber. When I asked him, “Why can't you put it on,” I was told, “We don't carry wiring like that, ma’am.”
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

My most recent plumbing claim with AHS was a hot water heater. American Home Shield paid for the new hot water heater, ‘cause the plumber came out and identified it as being defective. It was 10 years old and had to be replaced. American Home Shield and a plumber determined that it was time to replace it and that was great. Then the plumber decided that, because of the existing piping that was there, they needed to charge me $700 to rerun some of the lines because it wasn't up to code. The unit that they brought out was 15 inches shorter than the other one. They were charging me because they had to replace 10 inches of line. I felt that was unnecessary. I'm not really a good person to go fight with vendors, so I just let it go. But that was something that really upset me.
The technician was giving me a line that it was required. From the hot water heater to the plumbing, it had to be copper for eight inches and then it had to be some other type of material. My point was, “If this new unit is eight inches shorter, you already had to replace the line. So, why am I being charged for something that you already had to do?” He was basically saying, “Well that's just what it is.” I was not gonna sit there and argue with the kid.
The thing I like about American Home Shield is when something breaks, they come and fix it. However, I've gotten a furnace on my property where I've had the AC people out multiple times a year, and all they do is they come out and put Freon in it. They charge me $100 and say, “It's a small leak and it's just something you have to deal with.” I was like, “I'm not really interested in paying $100 for you to come to fill this thing up when I have another unit sitting right next to it that it doesn't happen to.” There are certain policies that American Home Shield should look at and go, “If I'm spending for this customer $600 a year or the customer’s spending $600 a year to put Freon in it, maybe there's a leak in it. Maybe we should replace it.” That's the stuff that I wish American Home Shield would be better at.

We have put a number of claims in and I don't have any major issues. In a perfect world, I could make phone calls and the techs would fix my issue on the phone or be here in 10 minutes. But we don't live in a perfect world so sometimes it's a while before I get service. I had a plugged drain and I called AHS. The contractor said, "We'll see you a week from Tuesday." Our dishwasher broke down and the contractor replaced some parts but it’s still not working. So we've rescheduled it for this Friday. We already paid our maintenance fee of $125. So, I'm not anticipating that American Home Shield is going to charge us again. If they do, I will request a refund on that. The dishwasher is something you use daily. So, it’s not a decent timing for somebody to show up to fix it. Initially, it took more than a week and the second time we called, it took longer than a week. This is our second time using AHS and the first time was good. We had an external refrigerator that we’re using that’s in the garage and the contractor was able to bring the part and fix that quickly. It was not a big deal for us because we have another fridge and we didn’t have the need for that. But as far as the dishwasher is concerned, we only have one.
AHS works with a third party and it was a third party that they sent out. I was going to contact the home warranty main number because I would suggest that they provide shoe covers for them when they're coming inside somebody's house. I don't want to ask them to remove their shoes but I'm germophobic, so after they leave, I have to mop the whole house, the whole kitchen and the whole area that they walked into. The repair people were wearing masks as well as my husband and I would appreciate it if they wore shoe covers next time.

I had a leak in my faucet on my tub. I did a claim to American Home Shield online. Their site was very user-friendly. It didn't take me very long to put it in at all. American Home Shield sent me a tracker once he notified me that he was on the way, and I could see where he was. I would highly recommend others to get AHS.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and I like that they have vendors to do a repair. I don't have to find one. It's just that the vendors and technicians that have been sent out to me are mediocre. I had a plumber come out and then they did some repairs. But I still had some issues after they left. I had to call another plumber on my own to come and fix it. I didn't want to deal with the same company coming out. Sometimes it should be a covered item, and whoever comes out tries to figure out how not to cover it or collect the $75 and move on. So, you take your chances on what day it is and how the guy that comes out feels. Because I'm a very busy guy, I don't want to deal with it. But if I just take that $1,000 and put it in a bank account, I just draw down on it, I'll have something left.

I've heard a lot of people complain about home warranty services and about how terrible they are. But every time I've had experience with American Home Shield, it's always been positive. If I take all the money I pay on my monthly premium altogether, I may be behind. Just like one time, I had a circuit board gone in my air conditioning unit, and it was $800 would amount to 35 bucks. The parts that were on my refrigerator amount to $75. It’s just a nice thing to know about when/if something comes up, I'm not gonna have a big sticker shock right then. I also had an air conditioning pressure one time. I had to really contest and it took me to work on it. There’s been a few times I haven't agreed with them, but most part, I've been very happy with them.

A refrigerator failed on Christmas eve. I had a service technician come and he diagnosed what the issue was. He let AHS know and told me that it was probably going to be a full replacement. AHS sent me an email with my options which were for them to either purchase a refrigerator for me or I could get credit at Lowe's for the value that they gave me which was very good. Or they would send me a check after I purchase the new fridge and send in the receipt. So I opted for the eCard for Lowe’s and I ordered it. It was great.

My toilet was backed up. There was some kind of stoppage down there that I was trying to figure out. The situation happened on Christmas and the next day was Sunday. So, the plumber came on Tuesday, which was understandable. They checked the plumbing and the ejector pump, and they suggested I get the septic field flushed out. I got it done on Thursday before New Year's, and then I wasn't home that Thursday. I didn't get home until Friday, which was New Year's Eve. On New Year's Eve, I had a couple people over, and after the toilets got flushed a few times, they backed up again. So, the plumber came back out yesterday and he ran a rooter line like an 80-foot snake into a pipe that was in the basement. Periodically, he would have to push that thing to make it go. When he used the whole 80 feet, he was like, "Maybe this took care of it, maybe it didn't."
We came back up and we flushed the toilets a few times. Then they backed up again. So, the next step he said was to submit a claim to Home Shield to see if they could put a scope down there to see if they can figure out what the problem is. It's been a good experience so far. Hopefully, we can get this one resolved and I'll feel the same. Overall, American Home Shield is good. I would recommend them. I pay $45 a month, and if I have an issue and it looks like it's covered, then I'll call American Home Shield.

We had water leaking from the heater and air conditioning unit inside the house. A rubber plastic tube that was supposed to go to the drain had cracked. The tech from Budget AC, Heating & Plumbing resolved it. He had the part in his van and fixed it fairly quick. The unit has not leaked since. But there was one contractor that AHS had recommended for the hot water heater who didn't want to put on a mask and it was earlier on the pandemic. I have an immunocompromised daughter and it's important for us that we protect her in every way. I told AHS I never want that company and to not ever send them to this house. It was a letdown and it was frustrating. But other than that experience, everything else has been good.

I had a leaking faucet and prior to that, I had a dishwasher that was not draining, so I have had two claims within the last 30 days, and I had to pay two service fees. When I called to speak with customer service, I didn't know that there was an option to ask for someone in the United States and I should have done that. Long story short, I spoke to someone who was very confrontational and argumentative. I said that I made a claim within 30 days so I should not have to pay a second service fee, and if like that, I should be refunded partial, if not all of it, because I wasn't having any sink problems before I had the dishwasher problem.
In order to get to the dishwasher, the plumber had to go up under the sink. As a result, I had a leaky faucet. He just said that it was loose so he tightened it up and replaced the washer. He couldn't understand how I could think that there would be a correlation. I told him that I would just let the customer service know about it when they call rather than me going back and forth with him trying to get him to understand. They were supposed to reach out to me within 48 hours. That was on Monday. Then the plumber that came out and fixed my sink was supposed to be here at eight o'clock. They didn't get here till 10:00 and as a result, I lost work hours because I was under the impression that he was going to be here first thing in the morning. I was supposed to get to work within a certain amount of time, but that didn't happen.
American Home Shield is useful when things begin to break down or need to be repaired. I just don't like that I have to pay a service fee whenever I call in and make a claim without the vendor coming out here. I prefer to pay after the fact, but I guess that works for them. Also, the service fee went up and I was not notified about that. When I first got them, it was a $75 service fee. Now it's $100.

AHS always took care of my problems in a timely manner. But they got technical terms that when you claim a part of the furnace, it’s considered maintenance. But that's not true. When you claim a flame sensor, that means that that sensor was in there from last year, and it got dull. It didn’t need to be cleaned. They have to go in and shine it up so it can make contact, so that the flame would stay on. So when the tech said he cleaned the flame sensor, they charged me for the whole visit. My dishwasher was a few years old and one day, my wife turned it on to wash dishes and the soap dispenser didn't open. She thought maybe it just got stuck and tried it again. Then the dishwasher filled with water but it didn't wash the dishes. We decided to give the service of American Home Shield a try and I was very pleased with everything I've gotten from them. The guy that came out was amazing. His name was Hubert and at first, I was worried about getting the runaround. But he'd been with AHS for 20 years and he explained the whole procedure to me. Then he explained to me about the dishwasher, what was wrong with it, and told me what we could do about getting it fixed. He also explained to me the replacement policy from American Home Shield and I told him to do whatever he had to do.
They he came back and determined that it was going to cost more to repair than the thing was worth and decided to do a buyout on it, which shocked me. Compared to all the trouble that I went through with my previous warranty provider, this guy made the whole process easy and simple for us to get this taken care of. The contractor called me and asked what the issue was and they asked if I could just take a picture of it so that they could be prepared and make sure they had everything they needed before they arrived. They were great. They even bought extra stoppers to go to the sink. I do not have any more leaks now. If they hadn't stopped the leak, it would have rotted out the flooring in the cabinet under my sink. There was an issue with the dishwasher and my daughter-in-law called me and said when the gentleman was there to fix it, it was not running properly and it was leaking on the floor. But he told her he fixed it. A screw apparently had come out of the counter that held the dishwasher in place. After he fixed it, he told her that it will not be replaced if something happens to it again because it was installed improperly. So when she called me, I told her that that was not what I was told when I bought the policy for her.
I called American Home Shield and explained to them what the gentleman had said. I told them, "If that's the case and if they're gonna find a loophole every time because these are older appliances, that they're going to say, ‘Well, if something definitely happens, we're not fixing it.’ I don't want your warranty." Then all of a sudden, the lady said, "Oh, well, let me look into it again." She came back and said, "Oh, no, no. I don't know why he said that. It will be replaced." I reassured her that if something does happen to that appliance that it better be covered. Because I've had this coverage for two years now and it's recently increased from $50 to $60. I didn't even get an explanation of why because it comes out of my debit card automatically.

Getting my furnace worked on was good but previously, to get somebody out, they gave me one week service which is unbelievable in cold weather or if I'm out of hot water. We were very upset.
AHS sent a company from Howell for the furnace, which was at least 30 miles away from us. They were out the next day. They had trouble getting the parts but they were good. AHS has to have more contractors in the area that they're servicing. Also, the contractors are upset as they're not getting paid what they should be paid.
We also had a water tank go out and we were without hot water for over a week. AHS sent two guys out and they just looked at it. My son's furnace wasn't working and AHS called in a company that looked at it. They said it would cost about $5,000 to fix it. I called Home Shield and told them about it. I said, "What are you gonna do about it?". They said, "Well, we're gonna send out another company to check it out," and they did. The first time, all they wanted was money because it wasn't that big of a deal to fix. They put a thermostat in it and something else that wasn't major.
When AHS sent the first company, they took $100 out of my son's account. When they sent that second company, they took another $100 out of his account. And my son said, "Mom, why would they do that? They already took $100." And I said, "I don't know." They need to put that one back because they already had one 'cause they sent somebody else. That doesn't mean he has to pay for another person. They were supposed to be sending out somebody to take care of the job.
The customer service reps are really nice but they tell me they're going to be doing this and it will be taken care of. The rep told me that the money would be put back in my son's bank. I talked to a lady this morning or yesterday and she told me the same thing, that it was already been okayed. Finally, they sent in whatever they needed to send in to American Home Shield to get it fixed. We got a new refrigerator.
The problem with A+ Appliance is they don't respond. You can only leave them a voicemail. They don't answer the phone. People need to pick up the phone and resolve faster. I don't know if it's because of the workforce or COVID, but if people will just communicate more and more frequently, it will be better. But the key with AHS is, although I did not trust that they would come through, and it may have taken a little more time than what I expected, but they honored their commitment. I was pleased with getting the full replacement cost for the refrigerator because refrigerators are not cheap. However, that was after we had to purchase a new refrigerator on our own.
We shouldn't have gone through what we had to because that was weeks of trying to restart an old refrigerator that was obviously bad. No response from A+ Appliance. The tech diagnosed that, and much to our surprise and good fortune, he had the part in his truck. They don't always, but it's a common part with our furnace, which is good. So, it was diagnosed and fixed in one call.
If I had a perfect wish list, it might be a faster response from the technicians. Sometimes, stuff go out on a Saturday. I get it. I may not hear from American Home Shield until Monday. It would be comforting as a consumer to get a touch base call. Doesn't mean they're necessarily coming out, but just an acknowledgement. AHS does a great job of that. I get the email or text, but it says, “Okay, you're going to hear from ABC AC and Heating. That's your technician.” Okay, great. “When am I going to hear from them?” It would be great if it was within 24 hours, even if it's a weekend. Doesn't it always figure? It's Saturday morning, Saturday night, Sunday night.
I promote and recommend AHS to my clients who are listing their home. Appliances these days really aren't DIY-friendly. The parts weren't made to be like the old Sears appliances used to be. You could get parts. I always highly recommend appliances, especially if people have the older AC unit with the new optional package that includes the older Freon. If people are paying for that out of pocket, they are looking at 10 to 15 pounds. And at 100 something dollars a pound, that adds up quick. If they had one call, that would more than pay for itself. We have AHS for two of our properties as well.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

I called American Home Shield to let them know about my refrigerator but they were busy so I had them call me back when they had time, and they were consistent in getting me called back. I liked the two gals I spoke to on getting this purchase. There was just one I could not understand because the rep was either talking too fast or just didn’t speak very fluent English. The guy who came out was pleasant, very knowledgeable and knew what he was doing.
There were four things wrong with the refrigerator and American Home Shield was not able to get two of the four parts, which was why they offered me a new appliance that they would cover. They told me that Lowe’s was the only place where I could purchase so I decided to go look at them. Then, they gave me an online site where I could look at refrigerators, either GE or Whirlpool. I had ordered one that I thought wasn’t going to be a problem, but it was going to be way too deep. I didn't want it sticking out that far. So I ordered a different one this morning that would work. I was under the impression though that AHS was gonna replace the refrigerator at full price but I paid out-of-pocket 400 and some dollars.

The contractor was very professional. They called me ahead of time and were waiting when I got there. They troubleshot the incident to see what different things they could do and they finally came to the conclusion that the drain was stopped up. So, they went on about repairing it. The service was very good. It was very helpful that they did what they did so that the sink could be used. I would recommend American Home Shield. I've used them twice and both times, there were no problems and the appointment was the next day. The companies they recommended very good ones. The guys came in, did their jobs and cleaned up afterwards.

We had American Home Shield at our prior house and we carried it through when we bought the next one. Having American Home Shield, we like the peace of mind when something goes wrong. We don't have to try and figure out what to do. We can just go ahead and put in a request. Recently, we had a leak from the upstairs bathroom. The fixture around the one side needed caulking and there was a rubber gasket needed replaced. They had to replace the gasket and kind of showed us where we would need to caulk instead of doing it because the caulking wasn't covered.

I like AHS. The good thing about it is the person that I've been dealing with, I know personally. So I love that most of all. The guy that came to work on my heating and air unit, I go to church with. I know of his business so I was so thankful for that. He worked really well to fight to get me the new unit. But I don't like how my refrigerator was handled. The guy who looked at it told AHS that it had been dropped when there's no evidence. They're not going to fix it. So I have a messed up refrigerator and I'm supposed to be cleaning the freezer out every day. The guy thought he fixed it but he didn't. It needs a stinking whole brand new front door put on it and that cost an arm and a leg.

I've had Aladdin's Plumbing come out three times but with two different issues. The first issue was a blockage in my drain and they were able to repair that the same day. Then, the second time was for an ice maker water line. The shutoff valve in the wall was leaking. It had seized, so that had to be replaced. The first visit was an assessment, and then the second visit was the actual repair of the component.
The filing of the claims process is really streamlined. I'm just surprised by the additional costs. They give a policy document that basically says, "Here are the covered items." But they don't really work through how much of that item is covered or isn't covered. For example, with the blockage, the plumber had to end up removing the toilet to get the bigger Roto-Rooter in to get to the blockage. Well, that removing the toilet was not covered by the Home Shield, even though this stoppage was, so that cost me an extra $240. Then, with the valve, because it was in the wall, it wasn't covered, so that was an additional $220 or $260.
I got an email saying that additional work is needed and it's not covered by my policy, so the add-on fee. Well, what is the total fee? How much are they supplementing? What's that breakdown? It would be useful to explain to consumers what they're getting into. Those two experiences had cost me significantly more than the $75 deductible, which was kind of a surprise. I don't know if every little issue, there's always gonna be additional costs that aren't covered because they have so many exclusions, or if that's just my unique situation with the two claims that I've filed so far.

With AHS's automated system, if I have multiple appliances, it's a little more difficult. I have to talk to a representative. But if it's just one, it's easy. This year, the contractors have been more than helpful. I've had a two-call-ins and they've been really great. A year ago though, they weren't good. The only thing is that they continue to go up on their rate substantially where there are other companies with a rate that is not as high. But because I've been with AHS so long and the loyalty of the program that I've stayed. I have a monthly rate and then a rate that I have to pay if there's an issue. I was there when the monthly rate for the contract was $35 and when I had to call for an issue it's $35. Now, I'm paying $75 and another $75 for the contractor to come. Other than that, I've recommended AHS to family and friends.

That was what Omega came out for. Then there was another light that kept flickering on and off. The tech said he just had to order it, and then when it would come in, they would call me to install it. He was nice, professional and honest. In addition to that, once the home inspector got here, I was asking him questions about how to figure out if the entire house needs rewired or if it's just a matter of changing out some receptacles. I had a washing machine that was not doing its agitation cycle. I was told by American Home Shield the contractor would be reaching out to me. However, when I went back to the AHS site, it had a detail that I had to contact Appalachian Appliance. They gave the phone number to schedule a time for them to come. I did that and they were very quick to respond. They were not able to fix the issue initially. They ended up having to back four times.
They put the machine in for repair and parts were ordered. They came back and put those parts in but the agitator piece broke in that process. So, they had to order another one and we had to wait several days in order to get that piece. When they received it, they put the new parts on the machine and it still did not work. There was water on the inside of the tub.
They had another guy come and diagnose it again. It needed additional parts and he submitted those. American Home Shield was ordering the part and at that time I had been told by the appliance company tech that he was going to recommend a new machine. When I talked to Home Shield, they did not tell me that. But then they came back and said it was under review. And eventually, after a month and a half, almost, my washing machine was replaced.
They could have handled this situation differently. I understand that they have to ensure whether or not the equipment is faulty or is worth fixing versus replacing. The money that it cost for me to get to the point where I had a washing machine that was workable was more than it would have cost me had I gone to Lowe’s and bought a machine the night it quit and they would have delivered within a week's time.

They kept me informed on everything that was going on. They did a pretty professional job. This claim went very, very well.
The first time that I used American Home Shield, the service was not good at all. It was terrible. It took three days for somebody to get here. When the contractor got here, they charged me $450 to put refrigerant there. They didn't even check and find the leak that was there. So the next thing you know, the refrigerant was gone again and they had to come back. The tech went out there and said, "Well, there's a leak right there.” It was obvious. It was right there on top of one of the parts that were in there. It took him about four weeks to get the part and another week of scheduling and all kinds of screwed up stuff.

I didn't like the initial gentleman that came out for our claim. He was rude. He didn't want to explain anything. He kept saying that I had pre-existing conditions, and it's up to my insurance company. I'm sure there was something wrong with it before I got it. Then all of a sudden, he just disappeared and it took me months. I went the whole summer without central air. My son went out and bought air conditioners.
The second tech seemed very knowledgeable. He was very quick. He seemed to know what he was doing. When he left the first time after he initially fixed it, I thought there was something wrong with it because it wouldn't turn on. Then he came out without any complaints. He checked the system and restarted it again and then it worked fine after that. Having AHS, I like not having to worry if something breaks. I had just done my pool system right up to getting a new pool liner when something went wrong and it was no longer filtering the pool and that was a much faster service. AHS did a good job. But the people that they sent out were terrible.
I had another pool company that I worked with that was willing to fix it. But I had it covered under the warranty. I called American Home Shield and asked them if my pool company could fix it. They said no and they sent another pool company out. The gentleman came and was really unprofessional. He asked who did my pool. I told him and he got very angry and upset. Apparently had a personal professional problem with them. But I didn't need to know about that. AHS needs to have more professional companies working for them.
Their concept is great and their willingness to fix items is great. I never had any controversy like, “We're not paying for this. We're not doing that.” It was just getting somebody there to work on it. Even on the commercial, it says, “American Home Shield repaired my AC the same day.” And that was what got me because if anything broke, I didn't want to wait. Then it's funny that it turned out I ended up waiting three months. Also, you have to go through the long, automated machine, waiting for a representative to pick up. Then they always say, “We'll have somebody call you back.” Then you're waiting, and God forbid you miss that call ‘cause they don’t call you again.

The heat wasn't working and the tech from CJ's came out and assessed it. He said that the furnace needed to be replaced, which was fine. I agree with it. The one thing that I had a concern with was he charged $2,675 for the materials or work surrounding the installation. He said American Home Shield covered the furnace install but because it was a smaller unit, they had to build down the piping and add some other ancillary equipment around it. But if you look at what was done, it looks to be the same size, width, and length. It's in the same setting and there's no floor space around where it was previously installed. That leads you to infer that it was the same size. The furnace is working well and it was installed well. And I’m not an HVAC expert by any means, but you would want to be able to see physically what you're paying the additional cost for.
He left a receipt - a carbon copy, so it's not clearly written, as if he didn't bear down hard enough. I called American Home Shield and there was a foreign person who answered the phone. She wasn't really clear on her English and the English was a bit broken. Also, when I asked her what the additional charges were for, she started giving me a cost breakdown. But to the average person who doesn't do HVAC, that doesn’t mean a lot. I still don’t have a clear understanding of what the additional charges were for.
I had another issue last year and the contractor that they used really took a long time to contact us. Once we talked with them, they took a long time to come out. We had to end up complaining about it. American Home Shield then gave us a different contractor. They handled it accordingly, it just took a long time to get it fixed.

So, he went up to the ceiling and ran a new line from the water heater to the bathroom, so there wouldn't be a leak. He was very knowledgeable. Sometimes that's the case, sometimes it's not. Usually, the people that come know what they're doing. Also, we thought this claim was totally covered by AHS, and it was not. It was $2,800, and they paid $500 of that. So, that was a little disappointing.
Other than that, the claims process through American Home Shield has gotten a lot better. It didn't use to be. But now, with everything online, they send you the information pretty quickly. So, it was a positive experience. I would just advise people to have patience because sometimes, things take time. We have a claim in on a refrigerator, and it’s still not fixed. It's been months. I called American Home Shield regarding my stovetop to have it repaired. But there were no parts. I got an email stating that there was going to be a replacement or that I could do an exchange for money. It started off as $600 but that appliance was out of stock, so they picked out another one, but then the value that I could get was $711. So I called American Home Shield and I've never, ever been treated by customer service like I was on this exchange. It was horrible.
When I called American Home Shield, it went through the customer service rep first and they turned me me over to this appliance/exchange department. But the girl that I dealt with was adamant about everything. I was trying to tell her that my stove is 36 inches wide and that the depth was 21.5. But she didn't want to know what the depth was. She just told me, “Well, you have a choice. You can take the money and go buy what you want. Or we will replace it.” I said, “But I don't understand. Nobody has really measured it. I'm giving you the measurements that I can.” Since the first model was out of stock, she picked up the second one.
The second model came in black, stainless, and white. I told the rep, “Well, my appliance is white. Is it okay if I just get the white one?” But she said no and that there would be an upcharge on it. I told her that it was the same model and I talked to GE, and it was the same price. But she said, “Well, we don't sell white ones as much as we do black ones. So you've got to take the black one.” So she wasn't very pleasant. I ended up having to concede on that.
I got a call from the first contractor that was going to deliver the stovetop. I asked the lady that I talked to if they could send me an email. But she said they didn't send emails. Then I asked her if they could text me. But she said, “No. We only have a landline.” I've never heard of a company that can't email somebody. Two delivery guys came out and they were speaking Spanish to each other. I asked them if they could speak English so I could understand what was going on. One guy said, “I'm sorry.” But then they continued to speak in Spanish. They set the old range on my brand new carpet and then they popped the new one in, but there was an inch too short. I kept saying all along that an expert needed to come and measure this but nobody did.
I called American Home Shield back when the stovetop wasn't fitting. I got another customer service rep on the phone and she kept putting me on hold. That was fine because I understand. It's Christmas time. People are having problems, and they want to make sure their appliances work. When she got back on the phone, she said, “I'm sorry for the wait. I'm switching you over now.” But they kept picking up and putting me back on hold. I was on hold for 45 minutes but no one ever picked up.
I was told by American Home Shield that when they deliver this and if I had any problems, do not call them and I should call GE because there was a year’s warranty on it. So I called GE and the person I talked to was really nice. She said, “Don't worry about it, honey. If it doesn't fit, GE has a guarantee to fit.” She also said, “Just let them put it in. If it doesn't fit, call GE.” So I did, and I talked to them three times. They ended up going through their service departments and sent a contractor out today. The tech said it was the biggest mess he's ever seen in his life.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

When we saw the garage door, it was down and we were not able to open it. We called AHS. Garage doors and openers are covered under the warranty. The guy found that the string or the cord that holds the door and spring was not good. He let AHS know and AHS said, "It's not covered under the warranty." When a garage door is not working, if you do not cover the garage door as such, I'll take it. But if it's broken because the tension string is not working or the spring is not good, that should be part of the coverage. I was surprised when I heard that it's not covered.
I've had three cases open with AHS. There was a leakage in my laundry room and it was such a big hassle and so much wasted time. It has caused damage to the drywall. Then, there was a slowness, less water pressure up the stairs in my house in the bathroom. The third thing was for the valve outside by the entrance where the water comes from outside to my house. That valve is not working properly. They looked at that and it's not included in the agreement because that's outside of the house. To me, that's not outside of the house. Outside of the house is when it's where my city meter comes in. What is coming to the valve, which is outside under my house is not outside of the house, it is part of the house. But I said I'd take care of it myself.
I told AHS to send a guy to do the laundry and the water pressure. A guy came after two days and that's not very good timing in terms of plumbing. It's not something that you can live with for a long time. He looked into it, took the picture and said, "I can fix it. I'll go to my office, I'll get the material and come back." He did not look, he did not check the water pressure issue on that day, and he went back. After that, it was complete silence for about two weeks.
We were busy with so many different things that, when I noticed and contacted the plumbing company, they said, "The guy has left and we have no information. He took everything." But, they sent somebody else. The guy came, took the information and sat down onto it for another two weeks' time. Then, we called, they said, "We don't have the parts." Plumbing is the kind of thing that needs to be fixed right away. If they say that they don't have a valve for it or material, then what kind of a plumbing company are they? That's definitely not an acceptable thing.
We asked AHS the option, "Can we get it done by ourselves and you reimburse it?" Finally, after a month, AHS agreed. I do not know whether the money has been reimbursed, but at least we got the work done. We were thinking initially to have maintenance from AHS for everything in the house. But we changed based on our experience. AHS is treating me as a second grade.

But having a home warranty gives you the peace of mind that if you have something, the cost will be covered beyond the initial $75 fee. The AC wasn’t operational so it was hot and I set up the time with the contractor. They came out the next day. The issue was not as simple as I thought it was going to be. I talked with customer service when I switched the warranty to my own plan once the first year of what I had gotten in my purchase agreement ran out. I was impressed with the customer service. I was doing some dishes and the sink backed up. Reading through my contract, any plumbing stoppages were covered. So I put that in the request and described it. AHS instantly said, “Your request for service has been confirmed.” Within one business day, the plumbing company reached out to make an appointment. It was Sunday night and by Wednesday, they were out there and the problem was fixed within an hour. They had to do the snake but it was fantastic.
This was the first time I ever had to go through the claim process and it was super easy. I signed in to my account, pushed request service, and then checked the box on what I needed service for. The fine print was pretty clear about like, “Don't let anybody else touch it before we do.” Also, if I'm asking for two different services, I'm going to be charged two different fees. Take some time to read through your warranty and think about what you really want covered. The literature AHS has about their plans is pretty clear. I had questions that I had to call in for and it wasn't a long maze of options to get to a real person to ask them, which was nice. I've been happy with AHS.

Have had American Home Shield warranty for a couple of years now. Have needed them twice and they failed both times to help me. The first time my garage door spring broke. Their response was 1 to 2 weeks to get someone to my home because they did not have a technician in the Waco area and they would have to come from Dallas or Austin. I called my Overhead Door Company. And they had the door fixed the very next day for a very reasonable price. The second incident that I needed American Home warranty was with a busted and leaking water heater. I called them Sunday morning, they gave us a company that said they would come out today and no one showed. Call the company that was supposed to come left voice message twice still no return call.
I then called American home warranty and they said it would be again 1 to 2 weeks before anyone could come out. I explained that I had water all over my floor and I needed someone now. They told me to turn the water off and that it would still be over a week for a response. I told him that I needed someone now or they would be repairing drywall as well. After an attempt to switch contractors I got frustrated and just fired them on the spot!! Please do not use this company!!!! My mother bought this warranty for us. I told her to cancel it and never buy one again.

I came back to American Home Shield after several years and on the first payment, they took out a lump sum when I clearly agreed to monthly payments. I gave them the date. All they could do was tell me that it was a mistake and that it was documented that it was supposed to be monthly. They took out over $500 and it took several weeks to get my money back. I had a mortgage that was due and I had to borrow money to pay that to prevent it from being late. Also, I had to call the retention department to get that resolved. I had placed about eight calls and asked to speak to a supervisor and they refused to let me speak to a supervisor.
My second experience was when I finally called in a request for my condo, I realized they had the wrong address. I had to also make seven phone calls before I got that issue resolved and also had to request for the retention department. Lastly, this most recent event is that I had a $100 credit that was put on to my account after an inconvenience by the retention department. I had a work order request that I placed a week or two later and before I did, I called twice to confirm that the $100 credit was there and to make sure that they were not going to debit my account. But they still debited my account another $100.
To this day, I've made eight phone calls, including a phone call on Monday morning. They reassured me that the money was going to be back in my account today and they told me that they are going to give me two extra months to keep my policy with American Home Shield. The money is still not in my account. I'm so tired of this company and I've been very frustrated with everything that's happened since I came back. I've removed all of my account information from both of my properties. Now, instead of being an automatic payment, I can reassure myself that they're not going to touch my account anymore and I have to pay monthly.

I brag about American Home Shield and what they offer. When I did a claim, they were expedient in getting someone out to us. The AC was making a noise and the fan wasn't turning on when I went outside. I did something and the unit kicked in but I was afraid that something was wrong so I called in a claim to be safe. ATR Heating and Cooling's tech came out and checked everything. He said the unit was defrosting itself, which is what it's supposed to do. I paid $100 for the unit to defrost but he said if anything happened in the next 90 days, I wouldn't have to pay another $100. It would be on them and they would take care of it.

I had a leak. It started back in September. I had to have some remediation services. When the plumbers first came out, they wanted me to rip out all the cabinets in my bedroom to fix a leak I had underneath the sink. I told them I was not gonna do that. The last time they came out, they cut a hole downstairs underneath the bathroom and said that they could fix that, but they haven't done that. Then, the one in the bathroom, the repairman that came out wanted to charge me $425 to put in a new thing in the knob. But the repairman said, "You don't need to do all that. All I need to do is to fix the plate." He said he ordered it, but that was back in November, and nobody's ever been out again. I called and I said, "I was wondering what happened. You said you're gonna order a piece and come back and fix it." They never called me again.
I've called American Home Shield twice about this and I just got frustrated. I stopped calling. I like AHS. But I don't know if they check the companies that they go through. The plumbing company that they're using that services my area, it takes them too long to fix stuff. It's been 90 days and I still don't have the problem completely fixed. But when I've had an electrical claim, I called them 9:00 and 12:00 it was fixed.

American Home Shield's customer service needs work. They can't just have their lower level employees at the call center and that's it. There has to be a way for a customer to speak to someone who can make a decision regarding the service, or if the service wasn't completed, a better way of how to get the money refunded. It's very complicated to even get to speak to somebody other than the call center representative, which is impractical. When I first started with them about 10 years ago, it was easier to speak to management. Now, it's so decentralized that there's no one for you to speak to. It's hard to get services done immediately. They'll give you a technician, but the technicians aren't very experienced in their fields. I've had the dishwasher problem now for a year. Every technician they send says there's nothing wrong with it but there's obviously something wrong with it. The quality of the people that they outsource has gone down tremendously.

American Home Shield is very hard to get ahold of, and sometimes it's frustrating. It takes a long time to get through a call and we have to put our phone on hold for a while sometimes. They're always busy and not able to get to us as quickly as I would like. Also, they have so many things that are covered then there are some other things that are covered, but one would have to buy an extra policy for that.
My wife made a call for our overhead door and it was fixed. However, the door company wasn't able to come out as quickly as she would have liked, since it was the overhead door, and we couldn't get in or out. Other than that, everything was fine. The door company came out a couple of times within a month. The second time, there was no charge. It was associated with it.

We're trying American Home Shield for the first time because we felt that their coverage is much more encompassing than the previous company that we went with. So far, it's a positive experience. They’re good. When the refrigerator ice maker was not working properly, I notified AHS about it online. The site was very friendly, efficient and fast. They sent Appliance Care and I was given their contact information by email. The techs were very good, courteous and professional. They explained the steps and what needed to be done and how they would do it. They ordered some parts and came back when they said they would come back after ordering the parts. I would work with them again. There's still some condensation though. We needed them to come and recheck the claim because there's some water still or mold showing up at the refrigerator.

My toilet kept running and I couldn't get it to stop. I requested service through the website and the vendor called quickly after I submitted the request. It was a weekend, so that was nice that they were responsive. They came on time when they said they would. They called beforehand like they said they would. I explained the issue to them because I started it. The plumber was telling me what he was doing as I was watching him. I just had to make one adjustment at the base where I turn the water on to fill the toilet. It might have been too high so I turned it down and things have been working since then. American Home Shield is pretty good. It's just a little expensive. But all warranty plans are like that. I would recommend them if a person feels more comfortable having one.

I love that they got information about the appliances before they came out, which saved us a step. But before, they came out and the tech said I needed a new faucet. Then they had to come out again because I didn't have another faucet. But I couldn't use the faucet that they had because it was very cheap. So I had to go out and buy an adequate faucet for my sink.
I have had some challenging experiences in the past with American Home Shield, but recently, I have had really good experiences. I had a washing machine and that took four months to get fixed because parts were not available during COVID. I just bought a new washing machine. Once the parts were available, the tech put the parts in the old one. My recent experience was good. The plumbing company did what they needed to do. But that was after I waited three months for the first plumber that was assigned. They never called us back and then lied to us saying that he had been calling and texting. Once we got Home Shield involved three months later, they did a good job and sent a plumber the next day. They actually tried to send him that same day, but I was out of town.
I custom-built this house 32 years, and I've been a member at about the 15-year mark. American Home Shield is a typical insurance company. They said, “Hey, we no longer offer that product unless you want to pay double for it.” And I said, “Hell yeah, I'm gonna pay double.” So that surprised them a little bit. Because they were at that 15-year mark, and now I become a liability instead of just a premium payer. But I continued paying the premiums for the next 10 or 15 years, and it will continue. It's just smart business is all it is.

The garage door wasn't working and I called American Home Shield. A few days later, a technician showed up and fixed it. I paid $75 for them to come up. The first time I used American Home Shield, I called them because there was no internal stopper in my bathroom sink and tub and I was charged $75 for being told that the plumber doesn't address that issue. I didn't understand why the plumber came all the way out there. That was a waste of money because either I didn't communicate the issue or they didn't understand me.
When requesting for service, AHS has been responsive. But when you have a situation where you can’t communicate the issue well over the phone or you’re not a very tech guy or plumber guy or engineer, and you don't have the words to articulate exactly what the issue is, other than saying that something doesn't work, AHS could have an app where I could take a picture and say what is missing or what is not working, and ask if they address that. An operator on the other end of the line can say that they either do not recognize it or that they don’t cover that. I would, at that point, would have said okay and I'm not gonna have them charge me $75 to come out for something they can't fix anyways.

My first couple of experiences with American Home Shield were great. Even when I had a problem, the people who they referred came out again. But on Saturday, my toilet overflowed and my septic tank ended up overflowing. So I have sewage in my backyard right now. I called American Home Shield and spoke with someone on Saturday. They referred me to someone.
His N Hers Plumbing did contact me. They were only able to come out on the 28th. But that was not gonna work for me because I'm leaving town tomorrow. So I explained that to the lady and she said, “Okay.” I called American Home Shield back and they tried to get me someone else. But I did not get a call back from the other company. I spent half a day Saturday, all day Sunday, and all day Monday trying to get in contact with them on the phone and trying to get someone to come out on an emergency, instead of American Home Shield saying to me, “Listen, this type of emergency, getting out is impossible. We cannot do that.” It took me two days. As a matter of fact, I just got a call from someone to finally tell me that it can't be done.
I wanted to speak with the manager. I wanted to voice my concerns regarding what I called the first time, and when I called back and explained to them saying, “The company can't come out until the 28th. This is an emergency, I do not want to leave my home and come back, and my septic tank and everything is a mess.” But I never spoke to a supervisor or manager. The last young lady that I did speak to finally said to me that they don't do emergencies like that. American Home Shield did put me on an expedited list. But the expedited list is not “I'll be there within an hour or two.” The expedited list was December 23rd. So that still was not going to work for me.
All the customer service people were pretty pleasant with the exception of one. But I've been dealing with this for two days. If they had told me earlier that no one could come out that soon, I could have gone ahead and paid for someone to come out, which I'm in the situation now. I was told that I would get reimbursed only if I'll use an American Home Shield contractor. I did ask for a list, and the reps told me that they were going to research it for me. So I had no idea who the companies were until they either called or sent me a text. So I just reached out to a local company that's going to be out today to help with the septic tank. I have to pay a company to pump the tank. Also, my grandkids are here so we have to relocate to my dad's house because we don't have any water.

He came to do the repair for a broken pipe in the ceiling that caused water damage to the wall. I didn't do it, but the way the insurance company was treating me, it was almost like I was being blamed for it. They want to discard me and I have to search for another insurance company, which I don't understand at this day.
I called the company. I'm not a vengeful person, but when a person's obligation is to fulfill a certain duty and they refuse to, which causes confusion or lost time of usage of part of their home due to their refusal, I found that bad. I'm not an employer, but I have standards and I told them he would not be working for my company tomorrow. It's not to do with any of the service that I received from American Home Shield though. When I first got the home warranty, I told the guy that I wanted it because I have it for my home and my business. People came out and fixed a few things that I had. A plumber who came to my residence didn't have an issue with it being a business. But one of the technicians said they don't service businesses and that I wouldn't be able to use them. I would have to pay out of pocket. I paid for $75 and all he did was come in and say that he couldn't service my heating system.
Whoever showed me the coverage said that because it was residential upstairs, they will be able to service the whole building. The HVAC system is for upstairs and downstairs. If they service both of them, then why wasn't it serviced? But even though the guy couldn't service it, he was still very helpful. I said, "Since you're here, can you show me where the filter is? I'll go buy a filter and put it in so that I can put the heat on." He showed me where filter was, told me what kind of filter to buy, and showed me how to put it in.
American Home Shield and I went back and forth, and I wound up canceling it. I kept it for my residence but for that building, I don't have that warranty service anymore. I didn't have a good experience with the last person that I talked to with them. She needs to have some type of sensitivity training. When I told her that I wanted to cancel, it was very unpleasant. I feel I should be able to get my $75 but she said, "You're gonna have to give us 20 something dollars." They were gonna put me in the credit if I didn't pay them the 20 something dollars. She said it was because I was still under contract and I was canceling out early so I wound up having to pay them.
I would've liked for somebody to say, "I can't give you your money back. But what I can do for you is refer you to another person, let you talk to them, let them explain to you a little bit more about the contract that you signed and about the gentleman that you talked to at the very beginning" I would have liked to have someone talk to me a little more about how the program was set up.

We've had Home Shield for several years and we've used them for a few things. The oven went out and they replaced that. Also, the condensing unit went out. The guy showed up saying that AHS would only pay me this much and this would cost me above that and I had to pay out of pocket. I called an independent company that wasn't represented by AHS. They came out, gave me a quote, and it was gonna cost me less to get them to do it than it was with this guy. I got ahold of American Home Shield and I told them about it. They said that I could do a cash-out thing, they would pay X amount of dollars, and I could get my own guy, and so I did that. The independent company came and did an excellent job at a good price. I was happy about that.
But a lot of times, these people have to come from a pretty good distance to get to me and see about their work through American Home Shield, as opposed to people that are fairly local, so I kinda worry sometimes. How profitable can it be for these guys if they're coming that far away over here to call on me? However, the service calls have come out fine. But it’s the air conditioning where I’ve had the issue.
My air handler was not kicking on. 3 Boys Appliance Repair came out and installed one. They put something in and then it didn't work. I called them and we had to fit into their schedule and wait for them a couple of days to come back. They didn't charge us a second time to come out. They said that there wasn't anything wrong with it. Well, why were they here for so long if it was like that? I got the impression they didn’t want that to go against them if it didn’t work. But everything's working now. I just wasn’t thrilled with them. They seemed almost inexperienced and I didn't feel confident in the work they did. Nonetheless, American Home Shield held up their end of the deal for the most part. They honor their thing. Overall, they've been good.

I received a call from the vendor the next morning after I filed the claim through the online system and they were out later that afternoon. They diagnosed the issue and what needed to be done. It worked out really well.

My icemaker wasn't working and Sears did some testing on it. The tech cleaned it up a little bit - the sensors and some other stuff. He explained everything as he went along and it had not stopped since he left a couple of weeks. Right now, I put a claim in to have my furnace preseason checked up. I called the contractor and they said they were dealing with emergencies first. They said they would try to get me before the end of December. I have not seen them and I'm hoping that I wasn't charged for that service. I'm going to call them again and see where they are with it.

The service was done very quickly and I didn't have any problems.

Every person I've ever had that’s come out to check my heating unit since 1997 always checks for carbon monoxide poisoning and they would not. They told me to go to Walmart and go buy a unit and put it in. I'm not very happy at all with TexAire Heating and Air Conditioning. My refrigerator claim was not good at all, either. The first guy came out and he ordered the wrong parts. Then the second guy came out and he didn't know what he was doing but he ordered the right part. The third person came in and uninstalled them. But this was absolutely ridiculous. It took six weeks.

I needed to get a dishwasher replaced and they went above and beyond. I had an expensive dishwasher and the only dishwasher that matched mine wasn't available in my area. They had to upgrade what they had in their stocks in order to match what I needed and they did that free of charge. I commended American Home Shield for that. The whole experience was positive. The only thing that I was upset about is when I had a pipe burst on the outside of my house. Instead of letting me know that they don't cover stuff on the outside of the house, they let me pay for service and got somebody come out here. They could have told me over the phone they don't pay for that stuff.

Normally, American Home Shield sends out people who are good and handle the issue. However, I had a plumbing issue and I was dissatisfied because they took my $100 and the group that was sent out didn't correct the problem. I had to go with another outside company that came in and handled it for me. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with the people AHS sent. They get the job done.
When my lights wouldn’t come on in my kitchen, I had to submit it over the phone. Because of the way that they have the account set up, they have my old contract up there and it won’t allow me to do claims online. Apart from that, the contractor was excellent. For one, they made sure they called and let me know when the person is going to come out. I had an issue where I had to change the date that they were going to come out, and they jotted that down and we got a new date. They told me the time that they were going to come and made sure they sent something stating that they were going to come out. When they came, they were very prompt and professional and told me what caused the problem.
I will recommend American Home Shield. As homeowners, things happen, and sometimes contracting the outside people on your own, you wind up paying more. Having AHS is a good level of insurance for your appliances or any of your other issues. It works for me. One time, I needed a compressor for my refrigerator when it went out, but I only had to pay the $100 deductible.

I enjoy American Home Shield for not having to pay full cost for some of the things that have had been replaced in my home. But I don't enjoy some of the shoddy contractors that are hired out and you have no say in. I had a dishwasher leak and they sent out a company who had less than stellar reviews online. I was optimistic that they would fix the issue. The tech told me that he would order the part and it would be there in a few days, and he would come back. But he never showed up again. So, I had to pay another deductible when the leak happened again to have somebody come back out.
It was a free HVAC check on our heat system and the gentleman from World Class AC said that there was a power strip in the side and one of them is burnt out. It needed to be replaced and he said he would order the part and come back. Within two weeks, he called back to schedule the time to come back out, and took care of it. He was good. But with American Home Shield, you don’t have a say in who they contract out. They won't change the contractor if it's someone who's shady, and that's disturbing because you're essentially double-dipping into my account and into my funds to fix an issue that should have been done right the first time by somebody who was a little bit more professional.

If we have an issue with something minor like garbage disposal, it's real easy. SWAT Plumbing came out for the garbage disposal and they were fine. The tech took about two minutes to look at it and the garbage disposal was leaking. He said I need new garbage disposal and he put a new one in. That was it. But when it comes to a more expensive item, American Home Shield digs their heels in and they're much more difficult to deal with because they don't want to have to pay for it.
I had an air conditioning unit go out and the company that came out said the thing has to get replaced. It was too old and not worth spending the money on but American Home Shield refused to do it. The company even told me they've never seen American Home Shield be willing to replace a central air conditioning unit because they won't pay for it. Also, I had a washing machine that was totally needed to be replaced and one of the reasons was because the repairman they sent out made the machine much worse. What he did ended up putting a hole in the side of the tub. That was a nightmare. They ended up having to replace it, but it was very difficult.

I had to call American Home Shield back to have the call re-entered so I didn't get charged again. A tech came out the next day and it ended up that the blower motor needed to be replaced. The first tech didn't check that. The second tech fixed that and the furnace worked relatively well.
Both of the techs that came out seem pretty good. But the first guy didn't dig as deep as the second guy. The second guy came from a bigger company so he maybe had a little bit more experience. American Home Shield's service is relatively good and I get a relatively quick response. The cost has been good too and it's all one centralized location. The part was ordered then they came back and replaced it. It was completed in a six-day time frame. American Home Shield has upped their game a lot. They used to be tough to deal with. There were a lot of frustrations but they've changed a lot of their procedures. Online, you can identify the problem and they follow up with you. They have a program that lets you know that they've put a contractor on the claim and they give you contact information. They'll tell you through that app that they're on the way and are even giving you updates. At this point, that I would recommend American Home Shield. However, I am a little concerned that all of a sudden their prices are escalating as far as the monthly payment. The communication between the home warranty and the contractor was a bit rough, which allowed me to have to be in an uncomfortable situation for longer than I expected. My AC unit was hit by lightning and I needed a brand new one. When the contractor brought in the new unit, they didn't do something right. We had to keep going back and forth. The contractor did not want to own the responsibility and for me, the proof was in the pudding.
In my view, I should not have had to do all the negotiations between the contractor and American Home Shield. It was too much. American Home Shield wound up having to send out another contractor because the way the initial contractor put the unit in wasn't right. Other than that, American Home Shield is a pretty good service most part. I don't have to purchase anything new and that's very beneficial to me. the home warranty has been good to my family.

When I bought American Home Shield two years ago, I was told that it covered all of my plumbing, all of my appliances, my water heater, my water softener and my washer and dryer. The first thing that went out was my water softener. I called to see if I could get a repairman out here and the rep from AHS said that they don't cover water softeners. They never have and never will. I told the rep that the girl on the phone told me that they did. The rep said that the girl wouldn't have told me that. I said that when I called and registered for this, I picked the highest plan and she told me it was covered. The rep said they would have to check that out. I asked if the calls are recorded and the rep said that they are. I told the rep to pull the recording and gave the day that I signed up and talked to the girl. The rep said they would pull the recording and they would get back to me.
AHS never got back to me so I called them back several months later, and asked what they found on that recording. I was told that it was still in process to be reviewed. It's been eight months. So that didn't impress me much. Then, my water heater went out. So I called and AHS sent a plumber out. It was $75. He took pictures of it and he said it needed to be replaced. The order was sent in but AHS never contacted me after that. So, I called them back three weeks later, and I asked what was going on with the water heater. The rep said they don't cover solar water heaters. I said that when the lady talked to me, she said water heaters were covered and solar wasn't mentioned and neither was electric, and I asked what the difference was. The rep answered that they just don't cover solar water heaters.
I have a GE Cafe refrigerator, which is less than two years old and the icemaker went out. AHS sent a guy out. I paid the fee and he said he couldn’t fix it. It takes a special tool and they'll have to call GE. So he called GE while he was here and GE said that the refrigerator was only out of warranty for one month and I didn't even start using it until it was six months old because the house was being remodeled. So they told him that they would cover the repair. They even scheduled the appointment for me but the tech didn't show up. So when I called them to see why he didn't show up, they said that I was out of warranty one month.
So, I called AHS back and told them that this guy talked to somebody at GE and set the appointment. Then, they told me when they didn't show up that it was because the refrigerator was one month out of warranty. AHS took care of that. The guy got the part and he came out and fixed it. But the thing that was broken on it was the back of the icemaker. It was plastic and whenever I take it out and put it back in, it would crack. When I did my filter, all the guy had to do was take it out and put the new drawer back in and it was fixed. There was no special part needed.
I paid for the water heater guy to come and AHS wouldn't reimburse that service call. I told them before the repair guy came that it was a solar water heater. They didn't tell me that they didn't do solar until the guy sent them the picture and they saw it was solar. So, I was not thrilled with AHS but I had to keep them because I got a washer and dryer that's up next. They said that if I cancel them, they will never take me back. Right now, if I cancelled them, I couldn't care less if I came back. I probably would be better off to take that $79 a month and put it away in a savings account, and buy whatever I needed to buy whenever it comes up.

I ordered the platinum level home warranty program. It said it included a furnace tune-up so I purchased it. I called American Home Shield, they gave me a number and said to call another company. I called the other company and they said they don't do oil furnace tune-ups. I'd like American Home Shield to clarify what type of furnace tune-up is included. If it's only gas and electric furnace then it should say that. 50% of furnaces are oil furnaces so if they're gonna exclude a large segment of furnace owners, they should specify that. I shouldn't have to read the fine print or find out through multiple phone calls that an oil furnace isn't included.
Recently, I had my hot water heater go out. I also had a really bad leak. I learned that I have a special type of water heater, and a regular plumber can't fix it. Where I live, it's hard to get service people. They're all booked out. I kept trying to explain to American Home Shield I had an emergency situation ‘cause I had to turn the water off so that the water heater would stop leaking. But they didn't quite get that urgency. It took a while to get that escalated. Their agents don't understand how appliances and mechanicals work. There are different types of water heaters. There's a direct water heater and an indirect one. I had an indirect water heater. I kept trying to explain that to them, but they don't understand the difference.
I had to have it replaced and the amount of money they allocate for the water heater is more designed for a direct water heater versus an indirect one. I recently had that whole repair. It cost $4,500, and they covered 1,600 of it. I'm grateful that they covered any of it, but they were not able to find a contractor. When they don't have a contractor, you have to find the contractor then ask that contractor to call American Home Shield and get authorization for that repair service. This was Sunday before Thanksgiving. The contractors are busy but they have to call American Home Shield to get authorization and be on hold with them. It's not easy to find a contractor who is willing to do that. It is a huge, incredibly time-consuming process.
Another con is getting through to American Home Shield. It's incredibly difficult. They're all trained to be very apologetic but I don't want apologies. I wanna get to someone pretty quickly. A lot of them are located in the Philippines. It's fine that they're in the Philippines, but it's frustrating when it becomes an issue in communications. But I also had two routine plumbing issues and American Home Shield worked perfectly. I created a ticket with them and they immediately assigned a plumber in the area that was in their network. The plumber called me right away, came out, and fixed it in a day or two. In some scenarios, American Home Shield works like a charm. But for more complex issues, it doesn't work so smoothly.

But they were confident in what they did and they knocked it out in 15 minutes.
It's important to at least have a warranty so you can be comfortable, especially if it's an older home that you're purchasing and you're not very familiar with how the ins and outs work. There are some things around AC and water heaters that can cost you a couple of thousand dollars. It's good to have that warranty as a buffer to make sure you don't get charged immediately when something happens.
American Home Shield is probably overcharged because it's one of those things like insurance. You don't really need it until you need it. I'm paying 60 bucks a month and I pay 125 as a deductible for somebody to come out. American Home Shield normally covers the cost but it ends up being expensive. If you have enough issues, the home warranty is worth having. Their claim process is not hard at all and I'm comfortable with their services.

I told him about the company that we have and he said, "Yeah, AHS has always there to help out. I wouldn't understand why they would charge you guys that much for a new furnace." In my recent claim, ThermaTek came out first thing in the morning the next day. The problem is whatever is going on with my system appears to be sporadic and if it's not doing it when the guy is there, he can't diagnose what it's doing if he can't see it. He tried everything that he possibly could to try to figure out what keeps happening. He came out one time before and then a week later, it started doing it. Then the day he came out, it stopped. But then it's the best company that American Home Shield has ever sent to my home for a warranty problem.
However, American Home Shield themselves are awful. They’re nonresponsive to customers. They don't return phone calls when they say they will. They make contracts, then they make changes. When I wanted to do the claim online, I couldn't as they decided that they weren't going to be covering boilers anymore, so it's not an option to choose to have service come out. But I was lucky by making the phone call because they were covering it 30 days ago. They were able to recall my initial complaint. They sent the same company out again. Then getting things paid for is like pulling teeth. Other vendors come out and say, "I have to be really careful about how I word this. Because American Home Shield looks for every single possible way that they can do to decline a claim." I've had them for a long time but I will not be having them beginning in February. I'll be switching to another company because of their performance. I stopped referring them this past year.

Everything was fine with my claim. Having a warranty has its ups and downs. I don't really call that often if I need something fixed and I'm paying $60 per month. Then I have to pay an additional $100 every time. I don't know why I have to pay this extra money but it’s the rule. Also, I have to wait a long time to get appointments. There's also a breakdown in the language with customer service. They have a lot of foreigners and they don't understand what I'm saying.

The tech we had said we had issues with the door of our microwave. The door couldn't be replaced, which was what needed to be done because the product hadn't been made for a number of years and there were no replacement parts to replace the unit. I've been through this process of replacement three times with American Home Shield in the last six months with three different appliances. This one with the microwave took a little longer because Thanksgiving got in the way. It took a while for GE to write up a report stating that the appliance needed to be replaced because parts were are no longer made and that took a little while to get. Once we got that, everything went along pretty smoothly.
I know someone else who had a warranty with American Home Shield and they had an issue with their air conditioning unit. They said American Home Shield kept sending people back. That happened with the refrigerator we had in our kitchen. Sometimes, it's the actual repair people that the home warranty sends that may not be the best. With GE, they knew what they're doing. But with the Independent Appliance guys, sometimes they are not nearly as dependable as GE. It's better to have the actual appliance manufacturer service people come. Also, sometimes when I get people on the phone, they are in a foreign country and that's not always the best thing. They're from India and sometimes they're difficult to understand. They don't really understand the way things work in this country either. The biggest problem is the cultural problem.

The contractors are very pleasant. I'm the one that deals with everybody, and they're very knowledgeable. They give me feedback when they have to come in and take care of whatever needs to be done. From my experience, I have not had any negativity since we've had this service. I've had a refrigerator repaired and we recently had a hot water tank replaced. It was old and leaking water. When the plumber came out and looked at it, he said, "You need a hot water tank." American Home Shield also had someone work on my air conditioning unit several times, but eventually, we had to come out of pocket for the unit. American Home Shield is worth it though I do sometimes wonder whether the annual cost plus the $75 per time is worth it as against simply calling a vendor at the time even though they may charge $125. We're not doing a claim that often during the year, so that's the only issue. There was an issue some time ago that had to do with the oven, and the contractor with AHS took three or four days to come out. We had one issue with the last contractor for our garden Jacuzzi tub. We gave them a couple of weeks to fix the problem, but we kept on getting excuses. In the summer time, we had a leak in the ceiling upstairs and I called AHS. I was told from one of the contractors to cut off my air because we didn't want to do any more damage not knowing what was going on. But it was hot in the house, so I couldn't. Somebody was out as soon as they could and it was not even five minutes that the problem was fixed.
We had another contractor come out for my stove. He looked at it, ordered the piece and was back within a week and a half to fix it. Having AHS is a good benefit because you're not paying hundreds of dollars for a contractor to come out and fix whatever it is that needs to be fixed. So, you're paying your monthly fee for American Home Shield, and then you're paying your other fee, which is $100 for the contractor to actually come out, which is good.

Submitting a claim is easy but there are delays right now that don’t have to do with the company itself as far as getting someone out there and getting a replacement. Our dishwasher started leaking from underneath and we started a claim with American Home Shield. Then, someone came out from a different company to check it and recommended a replacement because the plastic had melted over the years. So, there wasn't anything they could do to repair it.
We got a whole new dishwasher and we were happy but it’s supposed to be for replacement and I don't know if there's a difference because if it's more of a cost thing, what you can get for that cost now is less. It's not as comparable as I thought it would be as far as size and function. We didn't save as much money by replacing it had we not had the warranty. But we've had to have people look at other things, too. So, the benefit is not having as much cost if it's repairable. Still, everything was easy to get lined up. I did most of it online, which is awesome to do it when I have a minute here or there. So I was very happy with all of that. It’s just the replacement itself is a little disappointing. It's nice to have a dishwasher, though.

I called AHS and I said that I didn’t want this Jbeale Mechanical because I have my own guy who did the entire house and I want him to take care of that. I told AHS to cash me out and they did.
I didn't have any issues submitting the claim to AHS. However, I had to call Jbeale Mechanical many times to remind him that the winter is around the corner and I have kids in the house. He was quick when he came and did the survey but it took him a very long time to report back to American Home Shield. The communication with him was very straightforward and the guy came and did his job at the end of the day but other contractors were quite fast the way they responded back to American Home Shield and the way they interacted with me. I am a Realtor and I have used American Home Shield and have no complaints. I even have it on my own house. Craig has been wonderful. If somebody has a problem and it's not getting taken care of, I can call Craig and he's on it immediately.
Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. Please let us know if you need assistance in regards to your warranty.
