In a blink of a moment, my AC went out. The contractor American Home Shield set me up with called me immediately and I explained the situation to him. It was a Friday when I called. And he told me the earliest he could get someone here was that Monday. I explained my situation to him. He was very understanding, nice and caring.
The tech came out and he was awesome. He was very professional. I explained my situation to him with my son. And he took his time to evaluate everything. He told me that he found out what the problem was. My evaporator went out of my AC. He said, “I'm gonna put a rush on this.” He tried to get it back as fast as they could. And that Tuesday, they called me and told me that it came back and that he would be here that Friday to put it in. And he came like clockwork. He took his time, put my evaporator in and fixed everything and got it back running. My first experience was my best experience. It was wonderful.

The little catch on the track of the garage door wouldn't pull. The tech was very professional. He let me know ahead of time he was coming. When he arrived, he identified himself, and went right to work. He fixed the problem very quickly. He did a great job. I always do my claim online. It's pretty easy. You just log in and select whatever is not working. You just check the consent for your credit card to be charged and then wait for the phone call. You get an email saying these are the people who are going to be contacting you within 24 hours, and then you wait for the call. So far, I've been very happy with American Home Shield.

The Sears guy who did the microwave was fantastic and he even gave his personal number to follow up if we had problems with our install. But the process for the dishwasher took three weeks to be completed so that was a bit frustrating.

The last thing I used for AHS was for an exhaust fan in one of the restrooms in our home. Everything was easy on my part. They sent somebody to check it out and they realized it couldn't be repaired. They ordered another one and they contacted me once it came in to set up a time and a date. They installed the new one pretty fast. AHS saves me a lot of money because if I would have had to purchase that part or pay for it to be replaced, it would have cost me a lot more than the monthly warranty payment. On top of that, I would have to install it myself or find someone to install it which would have cost me additional funds.

AHS has been quick at sending people here to the house and solving whatever I need. They have always taken care of all my things. I had an issue with my forced air unit but that was solved. I've been very satisfied. Customer service and the people they have sent over have been pretty good.

I was very pleased this time with Aemrican Home Shield. The last time I had a claim, it took forever to find an AC man. But this time, the AC man came within two days. I read reviews on the contractor and they had some bad reviews. Reviewers said the guy didn't know what he was doing and another one said they didn't fix the problem. But they fixed mine pretty easily. The guy that fixed the AC knew what was wrong with it and the fix is making my air conditioner much cooler. I've been having it on 70 versus 69, 68 when I usually sleep. It improved.
American Home Shield was much better than the last few times I've used it. I've had this home warranty service for seven years now. I've used it on the AC and the dryer. Just now, I used it for the AC and the microwave. The microwave man didn't even have to come because according to the video, my microwave was fried and unsafe to work on. Less than a week later, I was able to pick a microwave and techs installed it last Friday. I really love my microwave and didn't realize how much I use it until it was out for two weeks.

I love American Home Shield as the service. They are great at follow-up. They are also great at the vendors who come out. They were professional and always on time. So they do a good job on contracting with actual repair people. But I had a problem with the actual Lowe's folks. My appliances had to be replaced. I don't do well shopping, especially for appliances, by looking at a picture online. I can't do that. I’m old. I gotta go in and touch it and feel it. I looked at the pictures but I couldn't decide. So I opted to get the actual gift card. But the whole experience was a disaster. One, I wasn't sure who the vendor would actually be for. I wasn’t sure if it was gonna be Home Depot or Lowe's or Montgomery Ward. But Lowe’s is horrible.
I live in Oakland and the actual Lowe's is in Union City. It's half an hour drive from me. When I got in the store, they had this great sale going on. I had a range and a over-the -range microwave that went bad. I picked out the range and it went fine. For the over-the-counter microwave, I came in the store and told a salesperson that I needed a 30-inch slide-in. We started talking about that and he said, “Well, microwaves are a different bugger. We suggest that you get a premeasurement. It's gonna be $45. And if you buy the unit, we put it toward installation.” It sounded like a winner to me, so I took that and I went on about my business. Since he was sending me in another direction, I asked him if I would get the sales price or when was the sale over? He said, “I don't know when the sale is over.” I was really excited about the pretty range so I just let it go.
The sale was ending the next day. So I tried to call the store, and I was on hold for 40 minutes. Then someone came and hung the line up. I tried the Lowe's customer service and I was on hold again. They said, “Oh, well, you need to speak to someone in the store to find out about the sale. Let us send you over.” I told them, “No one answers the phone, which is why I called you.” Then they said, “We know how to get you in through curbside pick-up. They're the only ones in the store that answer the phone.” So I went through curbside pick-up. The guy here was what I wanted. But I was back on hold. The same thing happened after about 30 minutes. The line got hung up. I gave it a little bit of time. I read over the paper that Lowe’s gave me around the actual measurements. It said they would call you in two days to schedule your measurement. But I didn't have a measurement yet. They haven't called to schedule a measurement.
I called the store again. I tried to call early in the morning when they first opened. They still didn’t answer. I went back over to corporate again. First corporate lady I talked to said they didn't answer her. I called back later and got another girl. She had been there a little longer, so she knew what was going on. She said, “Well, let me call.” They didn't remove my stove. I wanted that reimbursed. I was gonna figure out how to measure the microwave myself. So I wanted that refunded back on to the card. I’ve had stuff refunded on my cards all the time. But they told me that I have to go back to Union City to get the refund. I'm a senior and handicapped.
When I called on the 7th and the 8th, Lowe's was supposed to escalate a claim with the manager that would get my questions answered. I told them, “Look, I have a responsibility to American Home Shield. I'm supposed to turn in the receipts. But if I can’t purchase it, how can I turn in all the receipts?” I also told them that I found that the sale was going off the next day and then asked them, “Should I purchase it now just online to get the sale price?” They said, “Well, if you do that and it's the wrong one, then we don't know, you won't get the sale price when you return it.” So they had me in a spot. I was supposed to have a call from the Lowe’s manager to say whether I got the sales price. Then I have to go back out there and get stuff credited and then purchase and have to deal with the delivery all over again.
I called American Home Shield to say, “Hey, I think maybe you should know that someone you guys are partnering or contracting with, not taking really good care of your customers. I'm letting you guys know, they're not doing a good job with us. And it doesn't look good.” I'm a person that's been in business for so long enough to be able to separate the two. That's not American Home Shield. That’s Lowe’s. But American Home Shield is contracting with Lowe’s. I was told, “They're not our partners or anything. We just send them to you.” So I said, “So, you really don't think that there's an agreement between American Home Shield and Lowe's to provide a service to American Home Shield’s clients?” She told me no.
I had to talk to the representative and it took a pretty long time to get her to understand why this wasn't good for American Home Shield that Lowe's were treating their customers like that because it changed the whole process. I loved American Home Shield but because it continued to get dragged out, it didn't make it feel right. Meanwhile, someone did an identity theft and shopped with my credit card at Lowe’s. He put it under my email, so all the receipts started coming back to me. I called the Texas store and sent them all the stuff to say, “Hey, these are fraudulent charges someone's doing on your store.”
I have totally enjoyed the experience with American Home Shield. I trust them. I went online and paid my money for the person to come out. They called the next day and scheduled the appointment. They were ready to come out the day after that or so. But I needed someone to be here to go up and down the stairs. So I pushed it out. American Home Shield should have more options on who they're gonna give out the gift certificate to. They should have more care on the vendors.
We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great weekend.

I have had a contract with American Home Shield (AHS) since 2011, eleven years now. In those 11 years I have made maybe seven service requests. Most of those service requests resulted in minor repairs. One request did result in the replacement of an appliance, for which AHS's selected 3rd-party contractor was not so honest, to the point of not following the local laws/regulations and charging me for a service they did not perform. I have the documents and emails to backup that claim. And if AHS is still using that contractor after I reported their wrongdoings to AHS years ago, shame on them.
My current service request, initiated July 8th, has been a nightmare. It is an old range top/oven for which AHS has decided to repair instead of replacing, which I know is their option to do. The problem is, AHS has sent a part that does not fit, twice. The following is from the note in my AHS account, "Both times AHS sent part, it was wrong. Received the same parts twice." Also in the notes is, Failure Reason: Normal wear & tear. I have never received any update emails or calls from AHS. I have had to initiate a call to AHS's customer service each time I want an update (July 19th, July 20th, August 18th, and today, September 9th.) Now today I was told a part was ordered from eBay this past Wednesday and should arrive in 5-7 business days. My contract includes the replacement of covered items that cannot be repaired however, AHS has decided to instead let this servicing matter go on for more than two months without resolution.

I have some mixed feelings about AHS. But I was willing to stay because they had not completed my last job. The first one was they replaced a water heater in October of last year, and two weeks ago the water heater was leaking. My garage was filled with water and I had a few damaged items. AHS sent the same company out. I wasn't happy that I had to pay again for them to come out and it was still under warranty. I paid the service fee. I was gonna cancel because I had Sears as well and I was paying the two of them. I was doing some comparisons to find out which was covered, who covered what, and in what detail because once you're locked in, you can't make any changes until your renewal comes around. My renewal time with Sears along with AHS was within 30 days. I was going to either cancel one and put everything on one.
On July 29th, when I called to inquire, the gentleman with AHS made it sound good. He talked me into upgrading from silver to platinum. He said, "You don't have that many requests, so you can pay a higher service fee and a lower monthly rate." I asked him what was covered. I was geared towards my refrigerator. He said all parts are covered under normal wear and tear. I was going to be calling for my refrigerator because my ice maker wasn't working. He said, "It's my advice to you that you would wait until your renewal kicks in then call and make a service call for your refrigerator. If you upgrade to the platinum plan, we have this free HVAC service. You can get it free for one time." I went ahead with it.
I waited until after the 29th to call. I requested the one-time service for my air conditioning because it's hot. The lady told me, "We only have that once a year and that's not until March or April next year." I explained to her what I was told by who I talked to and she said, "No, you have to take advantage of that free option when we're offering it. We only offer it certain times of the year and right now, we're not offering it. Sorry." I told her I was gonna go ahead and place a claim for my refrigerator. I asked her what parts are covered. She said all parts are covered under normal wear and tear. I placed an order and paid the 125. A gentleman came out and wrote on my receipt that I needed a filter and shelves for the door. He told me to call the next day and said, "I'm gonna find out too. If I find out, then I'll call you or you can call."
I waited a couple of days but didn't hear anything from either side. I called American Home Shield and a rep said the claim was not covered because the technician that went out said that it was customer neglect. I asked how did I neglect my refrigerator. She said the filter wasn't changed and it was supposed to be changed every so many months. The shelving wasn't covered because I put too much heavy stuff. She said, "If you want a second opinion, we can send someone else out. But if they say the same thing, then you'll have to pay the 125 again." I was mad. I was trying to reach the contractor but they never returned my call.
I called American Home Shield back and told them I wanted to cancel my service. They got me over to their retention department. I told the rep the story, and he said, "I can reimburse the 125 that you paid." He reimbursed the 125. I said, "Instead of canceling, I'll just go ahead and downgrade because I was talked into upgrading and I'm not getting any benefits. I didn't get that free air conditioner service because I called at the wrong time and I followed the instructions on the best time to call." He was trying to tell me after I make three payments, I can't make any changes. They are quick to take my service fee, but when it comes down to providing the service, they're slow and I get transferred around and hung up on so I would have to start over. On top of that, my refrigerator is worse than what it was. I want to place another order for it, but I gave up.

There was a problem with my toilet. After I flush it, it would make a singing noise every time. So I called American Home Shield and they sent out the plumbing company. When they left, it was fine. But after about four days, it started to make the noise again. So I called American Home Shield the second time and they said that they will send the company out again. In the meantime, it was so irritating. The plumbing company was going to be over a week before they could make it there.
The sound was driving me crazy because it was even louder than the first time. So I looked in the back of the toilet and I tried to mash down the little stopper that goes in there. I noticed that the chain on there had come loose from the hook that goes on to the stopper. So when I flush it, the chain wasn't on there. I put my hand in the water and took the little chain and slid it onto the little handle. So when I mashed the handle to flush it, the chain will pull up the little stopper and it will bring that down in there. I fixed it. Then I contacted American Home Shield and let them know to cancel the second order.

The spin sensor went out on the washer, and after I submitted the ticket, I got a call from a gentleman from the company that was handling the case, discussed the issues with him, and told him the errors that the washer was displaying. He stated that, instead of making a trip out there to figure out what the parts were, he had a good idea what was going on with it. We ordered the parts, which showed up within four days, and they were on site 48 hours after the parts showed up. It took them two hours to get everything fixed. They had to replace spin sensor as well as all the bearings in the unit, because the spin bearings were shot. Overall, it was timely and it went really well.
We have had American Home Shield for eight years now, and we use them quite a bit. Over the years, this is our second home with them, so I've been very pleased with them. It saves me a lot of time and money. If I have major issues, I don't have to worry about trying to figure a way to pay for things. It's a lot easier to pay a $100 deductible.

My daughter had come over to do laundry. She tossed her jacket in last minute. When she did, the string that goes around the hood was hanging outside the door, so all of the laundry, as it was spinning, got all caught up. It pulled the inside of it out and it also broke the hose that has it so it spins. We put the door back in, but it needed to be made sure that when it ran, it didn’t leak. The gentleman who came out did a great job. I was extremely happy. I referred my brother to American Home Shield, and he is also now using them. As the world is going, money's getting harder and harder to come by. Having a home warranty is definitely a good thing to have. I don’t have to use my credit card one more time. The second vendor American Home Shield sent, the Hornet people, was so much better than the very first one. The serviceperson was so polite, approachable and very nice. This is the second time that the Hornet people came over. The first time, they replaced a piece, but it looks like there's something else broken in the refrigerator. It's not just that piece. Now, they've ordered another piece that they're going to replace again and the refrigerator is still damaging all the food. It's been two months, and I've wasted a good $1,000 in food in there. Everything gets frozen. The vegetables don't make it.
The first time American Home Shield sent somebody was on November of last year. I took my time calling them again to request someone else to come over because I was just too busy. I didn't want to deal with it. Also, I'm thinking if I should keep American Home Shield or not. It shouldn't take four visits to fix something. Every time we call to request service, it costs money. It's not just about the money though. It's about the time to fix a problem. If we were to value that time as well, by now, I would have purchased a new refrigerator because it's obvious that thing is not working. I don't understand why it keeps on being delayed. We buy insurances like this because we don't want to go through all of the loops that we get sent into. We just want to solve it.

I started noticing that the ice container was not filling up like it used to. When I would pull the flap back up there on the icemaker, there would be pieces of ice stuck in there in the ice maker, and it wasn’t ejecting the ice out. I cleaned it out at first up there. Finally, I decided there was something wrong with the icemaker itself, and that was when I put the claim in to American Home Shield. When the repairman came, he explained to me that the icemaker has a motor in it with these little fingers that spin around on the cycle. After the ice was made, those fingers will spin around and it will knock the ice out. He said what he thought was going on was that the motor in the icemaker was weak, and it wasn't pushing that ice out as it should. So, he replaced that unit with a different unit that had a good motor in it. So far, it's not giving any trouble at all. He's very nice. He's been here before and worked on the ice dispenser. The customer service when I call the phone number sounds like they’re just reading from a script and not listening. That’s why I preferred the chat because at least I had it in writing. It was a better experience via chat. This was the second time I’ve had to use the warranty since I bought this house. The first time was for our issue with the bathroom. And the experience over the phone is completely different than the experience via chat. When I did it over the phone, it was a lot of back and forth. My work order wasn't done correctly. If I have any issues in the future, I’ll definitely chat versus calling.
I loved the technicians American Home Shield sent. The technicians came the next business day. I put in my chat on a Saturday, and they came on Monday. The tech communicated with me from the time I got my work order. He told me what time he answers. He gave me a window. And the morning of, he texted me. He said, “I'm at the job right before yours. This job should take two hours. And then there's like a 45-minute drive, but I'll text you while I'm getting ready to leave.” So he did that to let me know, “I’m 30 minutes out.”
I couldn’t tell where the leak was coming from, but I could hear the water, and we could see water in the garage. The tech had a little device where he could see where the leak was. He cut a hole in the wall. He pulled out the insulation and he fixed it. He told us what the problem was. I was happy with the work. He cleaned up behind himself, and he left. AHS sent a plumber out to do the plumbing repair, and they sent a different company out to do the repairing of the wall.

The outlet wasn't working and the tech who came out first diagnosed but didn't fix. And American Home Shield went to the second opinion. The tech from L&N Electric diagnosed but had to get approval from AHS to do the actual work. He came back a week later and it worked out great. Every time that I had something break, a contractor came out and fixed it. I didn't have to find one and do any work.
I had a claim for a dryer but it was not something the contractor could do. He told me what he would do and it was a matter of me cleaning the dryer out more often than I did, like putting one of those cleaner things in there once a month instead of once every three. He said that was the problem guaranteed and there was nothing they could do about that. I just got to do it. And since then, it's been great. So other than that, there are no problems at all. For our AC claim, we started having leaks on certain parts of the sheetrock, and we were wondering where it was coming from. We had somebody come look at the duct works. The techs said that it needed to be replaced and that they would be getting back with American Home Shield, to find out if it was covered, which it should be. But I haven't heard anything back from American Home Shield. I also had a claim with the refrigerator. The ice machine stopped working. The guy that came out fixed it. I've called AHS a few times and they've been great. The claims process was wonderful. I've called them for a refrigerator leak and an ice maker problem. It was the same technician both times and he was great. It's nice to have a place to call because things go out of warranty so quickly and you would have to buy separate warranties for every product, which is insane. It's good that this kind of plan exists.

So far, so good with AHS, except for the certain vendors that they choose from. Recently I called for an AC repair. The next day, somebody came in and fixed the AC. At the same time, I had a washing machine repair but it took two weeks. A person coming itself took four days, and then the person ordering parts, coming and replacing it, took two weeks. I called them and they said, “If you don't want us, call and schedule somebody else.” Otherwise, I'm happy with AHS. I just recently referred my friend to the service.

I purchased our house in June and the house was completely redone. But the main bathroom still had the original sinks and we noticed the drains were very slow, and then it got slower and slower. A tech told me, "Somewhere along the lines, you probably have a clog and it would probably need to be jetted." I had a second bathroom added by a different company. They told me the same thing. I asked him, "What's the cost of it?" The price was just crazy astronomical. I thought, "Wait a minute, with AHS, I'm covered for clogs." I called them up and they said, "Yep, no problem." They immediately got back to me with an email that my company had been assigned.
Monday morning, I got a call from Elevated Plumbing and he set up an appointment. He came out and did a great job. He was very professional, honest, and he told me the price those other guys gave me was in line with what plumbers charge for that kind of work. But he said, "I don't believe that's exactly what you need. I think I know what's wrong." He went into the drains and he said he found two different areas that were plugged and it went into about 25 or 30 feet of the drain system. They work fine now. He said if there was any additional problem, that he would take care of it. I would request the guy again because he was very good. I also used AHS for a microwave that burned out. If I had to pay for it and have it installed, it probably would have been $700 to $800 for that. I also had a stove and they didn't make them anymore. A part went out on it and they could not get parts for that stove. So, they replaced it.

I used American Home Shield recently because I had an electrical issue. It was an outlet that's on the exterior of the house. There was a pretty bad storm, and so the water seeped into the outlet. Almost half of the house was without electricity. I called AHS and they asked to see how urgent it was. Considering that we had air conditioning and we had power on pretty much 75% of the house, it wasn't too urgent. Somebody came out after a couple of days. He got the repair done in less than an hour. I had a problem with the thermostat on my house. So I contacted American Home Shield, and they sent out a company called Mr. Cool. The guy came out, and he looked at it and he wasn't able to fix it. He said that because Nevada Power installed the thermostat and he couldn't do anything about it. But I already called Nevada Power and they said, “You're not on that program anymore. So you'll have to just hire somebody to come out and replace it.” So that was why I contacted American Home Shield and they sent out Mr. Cool. The guy never went up in the attic. He never did anything. He wanted me to sign that everything was working okay when he left, and I refused to sign it. I was out 100 bucks. So that time, I wasn't real happy because they sent somebody out who couldn't do the job. We were able to fix it ourselves. It wasn't that complicated. But other than that, everything was fine.
I also noticed that American Home Shield doesn’t cover water softener and that was kind of odd to me. I had Sears Home Warranty before and they covered water softeners. They were very professional, clean and nice. But I've been considering dropping AHS because everything that they do I have to wait at least five days. And most of the time, I couldn't get a person. Our dishwasher went out at the time of the pandemic and it was really hard to find. We finally settled on them giving us $501 for replacement. But that wasn't nearly enough money to compensate for the old dishwasher, so we had to add a little bit more to that to get us a new dishwasher. American Home Shield seems like a good idea. And it's gonna work out for me in the long run in my particular situation. This is the first time I took advantage of the warranty. It’s an older condo, so I'm sure things will crop up over time. I'll continue doing it. Because $40 a month is not going to hurt me that bad, even though I am on a fixed income. But I also thought, “What happens if my air conditioning fails?” All of a sudden, I got a $5,000 bill out of pocket. It’s like any insurance. When you need it, you need it.
I filed a claim online. And someone from AHS called back the next day and explained, “This company is going to contact you. If you don't hear from them, call them up at this number.” And the electric people called and they would come out the same day, originally. They called back saying the guy is hung up on another job. And they pushed it out four days. In this case, it wasn't urgent. I just needed to get the data.
I hope AHS doesn’t end up being like some auto insurance I've had in the past. You try to use it, “We'll take care of you, after we drag our feet and make you suffer.” And they jack the rates up. There's less of that going on than 30 years ago. Because all insurance is, is you're betting against yourself. You’re betting there's gonna be a problem. So, peace of mind.

Greenway Heating and Cooling came out in a few months back to work on the air conditioner and make sure it was all okay. They put Freon in it. The furnace and the air conditioner are interconnected. There's a condensate pump that pumps water out and puts it into the septic. My husband noticed that he hadn't heard it in a long time running. He went down into the crawlspace and there was some water on the ground. That was why I called American Home Shield most recently. The air conditioning was working fine but it was going to damage the system if we left it.
My husband called Greenway and set up an appointment for Monday. They told us we needed to call American Home Shield. We did and we paid the 100 bucks. The techs that came out said it was bad. They also found out the lines were all plugged. They cleaned the lines out and replaced the condensate pump. Something wasn't hooked up quite right because air conditioning ran but it didn't reduce the humidity in the house and we still didn't hear the thing run except for the first few hours.
I called Greenway and they told us to still call American Home Shield because they won't charge us the other $100. They just need to know about it. The techs came back out a day or two later. It was just a reclogged line and they fixed it. It's running like a dream now. Greenway was very good and they were really honest with us. They were significantly cheaper than the other people too.
American Home Shield has been wonderful too. My only complaint is they are not covering my fireplace. We can't use it because the chimney part needs to be repaired. That aside, American Home Shield has replaced our furnace. My husband and I have decided we're probably going to re-up the home warranty on our own next year.

So, he recommended the dryer to be replaced.
But AHS doesn't believe in replacing. They assigned it to another company for another opinion. The second tech said "Well, it has a new motor and a new timer. So it needs to be replaced.” When I kept calling back, they were saying they need to call their authorization department. Two months later, I got approved to get a new dryer finally. I called back on Friday and asked him, "Have you had any news yet?" Whenever the repair guy came, he said, "With that compressor the way it is, your top is gonna stop working. The problem has never been taken care of, but that's not necessarily American Home Shield's fault.
Abilene Comfort has been out on multiple occasions, and our air conditioning unit keeps shutting down. We can always get it to kick back on though. We turn the breaker off then turn it back on and it kicks back on. They call it a zebra, and they can't figure out what is causing it. They replaced the capacitor, then they finally gave up and had an electrician come out. The electrician couldn't find specifically anything, but worked on some wiring. However, the issue has occurred again since then. I opened a call back with American Home Shield, and it went back to the original Abilene AC people, but I never heard back from them again. When I woke up last Saturday, my house was flooded. I called AHS and they couldn't get somebody out until Monday, which was fine. The 5 Star company who came out was amazing. The tech said that it wasn't a pipe leak from where the water was coming and that it was an AC leak. He said he was going to transfer my claim over to an AC department and in the meantime, I should put a claim in with my homeowner's insurance, because it looked like I had well over $1,000 in water damage. This was because the flood went to three bedrooms. So, I told him that I'd follow his lead. He got me in contact with a restoration company and they came out. They started cutting drywall and baseboards and found the leak. Right now, my house is not leaking anymore but I don't have an AC company that has even come out, and I'm just waiting and waiting.
I called American Home Shield last week afterhours so they said they were going to put my concern in, but then the holidays came and I went out of town. And now, no one has called me. I just need an AC person to put the diagnosis in so I can get that to my homeowner's insurance. AHS is supposed to transfer my claim from a plumbing to an HVAC company and in the meantime, I didn't want to pay another $100 deductible. Aside from this incident, I've used AHS a few times and this has been the first time that it seems like there's a lack of communication from somewhere.

I've been very pleased with American Home Shield until now to where the hot water heater wasn't equivalent to what was taken out. I'm thinking about dropping them. The bottom of the hot water heater was leaking. American Home Shield replaced it. I wasn't happy, because I had a way more expensive water heater, just by the name brand. It was an 80-gallon Bradford White, and they put a 50-gallon Lowe's hot water heater in there. That was the biggest they would go. But I thought it would at least be the same brand equivalent to. But the work was done good.

I scheduled service and I called the contractor JnJ. I said the issue was the pool pump. My coverage is the most expensive one that American Shield covers and there are a number of things for the pool. One of them says pool pumps. The tech came in the first time a week and a half ago. he was okay and was friendly. He did what he did and he did his assessment. But he only looked at half of the problem. He was called back to it because nothing was touched on the spa, which was the second thing on the to-do list. He didn't even say anything about that.
The tech came back this past Tuesday. When I called the company, I said, “I have a contractor in my backyard that's doing some work. I don't want the pool guy to come because there's just not enough room, and people are moving back there. So, can you please schedule it on another day?” Apparently, that night, I get an estimate on the pool pump for $850 and again, there's nothing said or done on the spa. I said, “Hold on. I have been in this backyard all day, and he did not show up. And you're giving me an estimate, and you're telling me that this and that. I don't like that kind of business." When you start looking at reviews, it's not an uncommon thing that this has happened with this company.
I called American Shield and told them they needed to send somebody else out here. I told them what the company had done. American Home Shield gave me another pool company and they are coming out next week, Monday. They're gonna look at things and we're gonna go from there. This experience aside, Amercian Home Shield is a great service.

I had the air conditioner a couple of months earlier repaired because it was not blowing cold air at all. Heat and Air came out and did what they had to do. Then it was stinky. I called them and said, "Something's not right. It's really stinking." So, they came back, ad this time, I would have to pay out of pocket for them to clean, deodorize, and do whatever to it. They tore it all apart and cleaned it. I wasn't happy with the cleaner because he broke a piece of the air conditioner doing it off the slats, and it seemed to work then. A couple of weeks later, my husband and I are here and I had this weird feeling. I went over to get a bone off the back of the TV because we had to put one of our dogs down. When I did, I put my hand on top of the other dog's cage and the pillows on top were soaked. We looked and water was running down my wall from the unit.
So, I called in a claim, and had to pay $100 for them to come out and say, "Well, maybe it was just a defroster, or it was a foggy day, and maybe the drain was clogged or something." The tech flushed it and said, "It seems like everything's okay." I paid the 100 for him to come out and put this part on. Then when he came, he said it didn't need this part and that everything seemed to be working okay, and off he went. So far, there is no more water running down my wall.
The people in American Home Shield are awesome. Since I've had them, I've had refrigerator problems that they have fixed. I've never had a problem with AHS itself. I've tried to talk a lot of people into getting it. It's well worth it. It's just a little freaky with some of the people they hire, but I've had a very good experience with them.

I also didn't have to pay out of pocket for the air conditioning part or the parts for the sink, which could have been a little more expensive than what I paid. For right now, I'm just about even with American Home Shield, but I like the idea of having insurance on the bigger ticket items, which I haven't needed to use yet. But if my water heater or my compressor on my air conditioning goes, I’m happy to know that I won't have to pay the full amount for that. That's why I got the insurance.

We moved into the house on the 31st of July and there were problems with the toilet sounding like it was continuing to run. My husband tried to change the flapper in the tank but it was still problematic. He was trying to see if there were problems behind the toilet and maybe if there were problems with water coming down underneath. When he turned the water off, he could still hear something. When he went to try to move the toilet, he discovered it wasn't anchored to the floor. We called American Home Shield to have a plumber come take a look at it. They gave us the contractor Sullivan Handyman and their phone number.
Their plumber communicated with me before the visit and asked questions about what was happening. We explained it to him and he said, "It sounds like you may need to replace the toilet based on what you're describing to me." He got permission to do that and he asked me what model we wanted. If we sent him a picture of it, he could pick it up and bring it with him when he comes. He did that. He was in and out in less than an hour after taking care of everything.
That aside, I also had some difficulties with American Home Shield. My first experience was with the HVAC. The upstairs air conditioning wasn't working so a licensed HVAC person came out. I told him I have American Home Shield and he said I could pay him directly because when he tried to submit invoices to American Home Shield, it took him a while to get money. I can just submit the invoice to the home warranty afterward. I did that but when I called the home warranty, they said I should have called them first. Still, they had me go ahead and send the invoice and they gave me the email to forward the invoice to. I did that and I found out after the fact that the claim was going to be denied. From that perspective, I'm not satisfied with their service.

We had a problem with our refrigerator where the lights were no good. Home Shield had a guy come out and he had no idea what he was doing. He even told us that frankly and that he was going to have a specialist come and take care of the problem. It was back and forth with Home Shield. They kept telling me I had to go through this guy which I did and he never wound up fixing the refrigerator.
Home Shield then sent somebody else called DayBreak Appliance. They came out and they fixed half of the problem. But they couldn’t figure out how to fix the other light, which was on the side of the refrigerator and the bottom of the freezer. The tech had no idea what he was doing either so we had a third guy come out. I was willing to live with the lights issue at that point. But the third guy came out to repair whatever was frozen and broken. He gave me a card and it said A&D. This company was amazing. The guy knew his stuff like nobody before him. He ordered all the parts then they came back out a week or two later and completely repaired the refrigerator. It's perfect now.
On the whole, the refrigerator claim cost me three deductibles to have the problem repaired. That was annoying to me that I had to spend an extra $100 to have the refrigerator repaired. Home Shield wound up scratching the second time that I called for the deductible because I was really adamant about the problem not being repaired.
I've submitted several with Home Shield. The cost would have been exorbitantly more had I not had the program. There's peace of mind knowing that if something breaks, I have a deductible to pay and it's going to be repaired. At one point I was losing faith and I was getting ready to cancel my plan with Home Shield because I was getting turfed out to a Filipino call center. They were reading from a script and that was no good. Another thing was I wanted to talk to a manager at one point because I was seriously in a repetitive loop of not getting anywhere, especially with the first tech from DayBreak. Customer service said there was no manager. It took several days for them to have a manager or supervisor call me. When I missed the call, that was it. They didn’t try to call me again. I had to go through the process again and wait several days. They said it would be 24 to 48 hours but it was more. I still never spoke with anybody.

I just moved into this house and didn't replace the locks and wanted to rekey the doors and since my insurance was covering it, Realty Rekey came out and did it. They did a spectacular job. It was very easy to submit the claim. Now, on the other hand, my garage door spring broke at the same time, and that experience was really bad with the garage door company that AHS used. They were a bunch of fraudulent shysters. They came out, my warranty was covering it, and AHS was gonna pay them for the work. However, they made things up, and they wanted to charge me extra fees for adjusting the door. I'm a general contractor and I know the door does not need to be adjusted when you replace the spring.
They wanted to charge me $180 for adjusting the spring. There are two springs. My left spring broke, but the right spring was okay and they said that they were going to replace just the left one. Over time, it's gonna fail. The two springs are not gonna be compatible because they're gonna put a different type of spring. They said, "In two or three weeks, you're gonna have a broken spring again and you need to call us back and pay additional fee for replacing it." I said, "If you know that much, why don't you just replace it now?" He said, "No. If you pay me, I'll replace it. Otherwise, I won't replace it." So, I said, "No, just replace the broken spring. Let's just do that risk." Then, he said, "No, you need to pay me $180 in addition to whatever I'm getting paid from American Home Shield."
In the beginning, he said, "Your spring is not covered by warranty." I had to battle that. I eventually got them to agree that it was covered. The rekey company was great but this garage door company just wanted to get more money out of this and in their notes, they put that the spring that's installed on my door does not comply with the door so that they're clear with American Home Shield.
However, it's a brand-new house and it was set by a warranty company, so it's all within the same system. It's just that they didn't wanna do a job or they want to do the job but they wanted me to pay more and since they wanted to show American Home Shield that they've done something, they couldn't do it because my garage door springs were installed incorrectly. They put that in the notes and they didn't tell me anything. Then they called American Home Shield to complain. The garage door contractor needs to be swapped out with someone else. It's not a good way to do business. As far as American Home Shield, I've had a great experience with them before, and they've done great things for me. It's just this one contractor. And I blame that contractor, I don't blame them.

I am without a heater now and still had to pay that $100. So, I'm not really happy with that at all.
I didn't see that in the fine print, if there was a part that was obsolete they just wouldn't do it. I talked to other companies, and they didn't think that was right. The way they have their forms set up is very confusing. Like with my pool, the pump is not fully having suction and it could be either be something with the pump or pipes. They could have it separate instead of being checkboxes where people will contact you. AHS is like, “Oh, you need to put in a second service request.” And I'm like, “So, that'll be another $100.” I don't like how they have it set up where I have to do all these service requests for similar things instead of it being combined. It should be one instead of them nickel and diming you. Hopefully, when the techs get here, they're not like, “Oh, yeah. No, that's more of a pipe situation.”
My claim for the AC that was making a noise went okay. The techs replaced the motor. But after they left, I looked and they had wires sticking out and electrical tape around the wires. It looked like shoddy work. Even though it works, I put it in the next maintenance request. They came back and did the wires differently where they used zip ties underneath the electrical tape. So, I'm happy. They were incredibly professional and nice. When I first saw the job, it gave me concerns but they came back and they fixed it.

Water was running out of the garage. I forgot that I had Home Shield first and I called somebody I knew that was in the plumbing business. They came and turned the water off.
Then I remembered I had Home Shield, so I called them. They sent somebody out to check it out and look at what's going on. They said, “Okay. Yeah. We'll take care of that claim. We'll take care of the water heater.” A few days later, they told me that the plumbing and some other incidentals go along with it, and I would have to pay out of my pocket, which came up to $1,440. So, I had to pay for that and I wasn’t too happy with that. They did come out and they had ordered a tank. So, it took them another week to come out and fix it. SA Cool Zone was amazing with communication, and they were absolutely wonderful. The technician that came out was so sweet, kind and fixed the AC perfectly. The woman who answers the phone and does all the scheduling, Carla, was so kind and personable as well. We're real happy with SA Cool Zone. It’s a great company. The company before, Quality HVAC, was not, and American Home Shield might want to rethink having them on their list of providers.
The guy that came out was really nice, but it was strange because he told me that the compressor was shot and it was gonna be a huge repair. It was $2,500, but he wanted to do that business because it was gonna be such a good repair. I don’t know if it was just a different diagnosis or if Quality HVAC was trying to highball us, but when SA Cool Zone came out, they said, “Oh, no. It’s just a breaker that’s out.” It was super simple, and we were just charged the service fee. So I’m grateful for SA Cool Zone. American Home Shield was great the whole time too. As soon as I requested a new provider, they gave me that.

My air conditioner got backed up. There was water dripping from the ceiling. I went and did my shot back, cleaned it up, changed the filter, but kept the service call to make sure that there was no issue with the AC. The guy came in, looked at it, and said everything was fine. He said, "You need to clean the coils, but that's not covered under your warranty." Gave me an estimate and left. He was very professional, explained to me what the issue was and told me everything I did was fine. I was very satisfied. AHS also helped me with the refrigerator, too.

We just bought a house, and we wanted to have the house rekeyed. We logged into our account online and asked for it to be done. It was not easy though. The sellers of the house purchased the home warranty, because it was a part of our agreement when buying the house. They had it under their name, so we couldn't log in appropriately. We ended up having to call American Home Shield and having to do the claim over the phone. They put us on with someone with an extremely thick accent. We could understand two in every five words he said. It was a very poor interaction and it took a very long time. We were not satisfied with that.
American Home Shield ended up fixing our account and getting our names on it so that we could do it online, which we did. They then called us back and confirmed things with the person who spoke English. That worked, and then we've had no problems since then. The company that came out, Realty Rekey, was great. American Home Shield allowed six locks in grand total, and we had more than that. They covered six and we had to pay for additional ones.

My pool pump was going out, and by the time the techs got here the next day, it already went out. So they just replaced the pool pump. They had to come out again three days later because I thought that there was something wrong with the install, but it was just the timing coincided that I needed the filter changed too. The tech opened it up and showed me the filter. Water wasn't flowing as quickly as it could with the dirty old filter. I had another one and we changed it, then the pump started working as expected after that. Also, I'm new to pools so I didn't know any of this stuff, so he showed me how to change the filter.
I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield. I had an issue with my garage door opener in a different home yesterday and it was bummer that American Home Shield didn't cover that. I read the fine print, and it said that they don't cover power surges. I don't even know how or when a power surge could have possibly happened and who's to say there really was a power surge? There was a brownish tint to a part of the electric board, so the best guess of the technician is that's what happened. Still overall, American Home Shield is definitely worth the price.

The clothes washer was no longer finishing cycles. When the techs came out, they said that there was a piece that needed to be replaced so that it could drain properly. There was a sock stuck in it somehow and it was full of water. They said to get the sock out, it would have caused water to go all over the place, so it was better to replace it. But they didn't have the part and it took about five days for the part to show up. My only thing was that somehow they had the wrong number for me at first, so they may have tried to contact me at first. But I didn't know about my first appointment. Then, I saw on American Home Shield that the part was ordered and the contractor didn't answer the phone much when I called to follow up. But overall, they provided great service and got the job done.

I like American Home Shield. I have had experience with a different home warranty provider in the past, and American Home Shield's responsiveness is a little better. The one thing I don't like about them is their propensity to close open service requests when they shouldn't be closed. As soon as the service provider appears and sends a report in, they close it. The last service request I had for my refrigerator, I paid my deductible and the service provider came out and said it was too complicated and beyond his scope. He knows what's wrong and what needs to be done, and he said he would get back to American Home Shield and I would hear back from them. I never did, then when I went back online, the service request is marked as closed. I don't care for that.
I had a problem with the dryer, and the service provider ended up being A&E, which is Sears. I've had an extended warranty with Sears, and there are levels of service providers at Sears. A&E, the one that AHS sent, is their best level of service. So I was impressed I didn't have to go through the nonsense of their poor technicians. That got resolved, no problem. Although, I haven't gotten the reimbursement back yet. It's my refrigerator, freezer, and my oven that are problematic, and they still have not been reconciled.
The refrigerator is an older Sub-Zero model. I've called Sub-Zero before, and they have their own preferred repair people. They said they could send them, but they wouldn't work with any of the home warranty companies. It's a more expensive brand, and so far, it has not been fixed. The oven is Thermador, and the service providers just can't figure it out. American Home Shield has been supportive, and I don't want, necessarily, a replacement. I'd like them to fix what the problem is. They reported back that it has been fixed, then I called and said, "It's not been fixed." They closed the case anyway, and that was frustrating.
Other than that, I don't have any major complaints. American Home Shield sends out quality people. I understand that often, you get new service providers trying to make their own business and that's people that will accept home warranty business. But for whatever reason, the service providers that work with American Home Shield are better than the previous home warranty company I've used.
So far though, I've not gotten any follow up from American Home Shield. When the service providers come in and say something needs to be ordered or done, and they always say. "We will report back to American Home Shield and they will call you back." I've never gotten a call back. I have to chase everything down myself, which is not the end of the world, but it's not particularly good service. It would be different if the service provider said, "You're responsible to track this down. I'll report back to American Home Shield." Although, that doesn't sound like good service either.

I've had a home warranty for a really long time and I just recently switched over to American Home Shield a couple of months ago. My old warranty company was covering less and less of things. I went with American Home Shield because they have these disclaimers about how wonderful they are. They say that they cover older appliances. They cover appliances that haven't had maintenance. If you have an appliance and it wasn't installed properly and that’s why you're having a problem, they cover that. They pretty much cover everything.
We ended up having a heatwave in California and my air conditioner stopped working about a week ago. The fan’s going, and my air conditioner is on a slab foundation. I had it changed out with my past warranty company. AHS sent a guy out. He was a young kid. He kinda had an attitude from the moment he walked in. I have my own business, so I know how to deal with people. He went outside. He turned it on. The fan was working. He didn't pull the unit apart. He proceeded to tell me that my unit was very dirty and needed to be cleaned. Then he said, “And also, you're low on Freon.” AHS only covered $10 in Freon.
The part that really got me was when he said, “But the good news is, and this is gonna cost you about $1,000.” Then he said, “The good news is for another $1,700, I can put in a new unit. I can upgrade it.” I was like, “Are you trying to upsell me right now? I just told you that the $1,000 was a lot.” For sure, he was trying to upsell me for his company, and he was supposed to be representing my warranty company. So, I said, “No. Just do what you claim you need to do.” He said, “Well, I don't have time to do it today. I'm gonna have to come back. I'm gonna go write my report, and you'll hear from us.”
First, I called his company. The guy who runs the company never called me back. My warranty company called me back and they said, “No, it's not covered.” I said, “What do you mean it’s not covered?” They said earthquake straps were missing. Apparently, in the state of California, if you’re gonna put a new appliance in, you have to have earthquake straps if the unit’s on a roof. Mine’s on the ground. The purpose of it is that if the unit would shake the roof, it would do damage to the unit or the house. This company proceeded to tell me in his report, “The shaking of the unit.” There's no shake. I took a video with a glass of wine on it with the fan running. There was no shake at all.
So, I said, “Okay. If that's true, what about all these things that don't need earthquake straps? I can understand earthquake straps on a hot water heater. Of course, I knew that, ‘cause of the gas line. But this is electric." They didn't have an answer for me. So, then I said, “This air conditioner is not missing parts. This is an additional piece that is put on for code. It doesn't affect the unit or the operation of the unit in any way.” I had a friend of mine who came out, and he said, “That's baloney.”

The company called me and they made a schedule. When the contractor came, everything was pretty much easy. It didn't even take him less than two minutes, and he already figured out the issue. He took a picture. We were getting along and he said, “This is a small issue. It’s just the sump pump was never changed, so you just need a new one. So he did something with the chain and that worked fine for a day. Then all of a sudden, it started to do the thing with the water, and the water just runs. For toilet number two, the water doesn't flush properly. You have to flush at least three times in order for the bowl to be cleaned. I put the request in about two days ago and American Home Shield is very quick, but this one took a while. In the last few weeks, I’ve had some things go on to where I've had to utilize my American Home Shield warranty, which has been great. I had my pool worked on. They had amazing customer service. I had my dishwasher worked on. They had to replace it. It came dented, so they take care of that. I had a plumber come out. He did a great job and went above and beyond.
I had an AC guy come out. My work request was air conditioning and swamp cooler not cooling. So, he came out yesterday. He found one wire on the condenser on one of the ACs wasn't working. Both ACs aren’t putting out cold air though. In the larger one, he found a wire that he had to clean up and put back on. Then he said, “Okay.” I said, “That didn’t fix it. It’s still 80-something degrees in the house.” He was like, “Okay. Well, it must be the Freon.” I said, “Okay.” He said, “I got to charge you $100 a pound.” I said, “I know American Shield is supposed to pay $10 on it.” He said, “Yeah, ‘cause they’re cheap, they’re a bad company and all that.” I was like, “Wow. Okay. Just bad-mouth people that are giving you the jobs here. Give me the Freon, I’ll take care of that. And that way, it will be good and it will work.”
I put the Freon in, but it didn’t work. It's still 80 degrees in the house on both AC units. He didn’t look at the swamp cord yet. He hasn’t even touched those yet. So, I came back out, and he was like, “It must be your ductwork up in the attic. Maybe there’s a leak or something. I don’t go in the attic. It’s too hot.” I said, “Well, I put in the work request of AC not working. So, doesn’t the work request cover finding out what’s wrong with the AC altogether?” He said, “Yeah, it would. But I don’t go on the attics. I don’t get paid enough to go on the attics, it’s too hot, especially in the summertime.” I was like, “Okay. What’s going on here?” He said, “You need to call back American Home Shield and have them send out a different company.”
I said, “So you gonna have me call back and pay another $100 to have another company come out?” He said “Yeah, but tell them it’s ductwork.” I said, “No, it’s part of the AC. And the AC doesn’t work.” He said, “Yeah, but you’re gonna have to do a whole new work order.” I said, “Just a minute. Let me go inside and call American Home Shield to find out what’s going on.” While I’m on the phone with AHS, he took off and left. He hasn’t even looked at the swamp cooler units, and I have two of those. He fixed a couple of things, but it still wasn’t working. So I was talking to AHS and the rep said, “Oh, well, he just put the work order in. And he says he fixed it and the customer refused to pay for the Freon.” I was like, “Whoa. What the hell is going on here?” Overall, everything’s been great up until yesterday.

I had American Home Shield’s warranty once before so I said, "I’ll give them another shot at it. They'll be okay.” Worst move I ever made in my life. My air condition stopped working. AHS sent a technician out. First, he said it was an old capacitor. So it started working, but it went out again. So, I called him back out and told him it was not working. He came back out. I told him I have my air condition served twice a year by a qualified technician. When I told him that, it seemed like nobody cared about that issue. AHS didn't care about how things went. It was like a nightmare. After I told them about it, they said it was fixed. I said, "What do you mean by it was fixed? They didn't fix the problem.” It was a game that they were playing with me. That service was so piss poor, it was unreal. I will never use them again.
I’ll put it on Nextdoor to say to the people that American Home Shield warranty is nothing but a rip off. They get your money for two years. And when you have a problem, they send out the worst mechanics they got on there to repair your stuff. And they come in, you pay a service fee, then you gotta pay a $100 deductible. I've been them for five years. I still have to pay a deductible in order to get the service.
And when the people come out, all they want to do is just fix it and leave. My air condition had a noise to it so we couldn't sleep. And they wanted to charge me another service fee. I agreed to it. I said, “Okay. If they come out and don't find anything wrong, then I don't have a problem paying the service fee.” But they didn't even send anyone out to check to see that there was a problem. And I told them, I would pay the service fee if there was a problem and they didn't find anything wrong. They still didn't fix it.

I was told whenever I created the recent service ticket that it was not a vendor that they could use in the area, that I could call someone and I could get reimbursed if I wanted to do that or they could try to reach out again and find someone. But they had no luck finding anyone. I told them, "I would like you guys to reach out because after all, this is what I pay you to do.” They reached out and within 24 hours, not only was someone assigned, but also the people contacted me immediately. They got my locks changed the same day.

What I liked about American Home Shield was it was a number to call in case there was anything wrong with our home. And we had just purchased a home, so we wanted to make sure we were covered. Generally, AHS has reached out in case there's a problem, and they’d just schedule another technician to come out. When I was trying to cancel the policy. It took a lot of phone calls to do so. I would like to get AHS in the future. But when I got so many calls, trying to cancel it, and it was just taking forever, it gave me a sour taste in my mouth. What I also didn't like about the service was sometimes, the technicians were in a rush to leave. They would charge us the full amount or just say everything was good, even when it wasn't.
Recently, there was a problem with the cooling system not cooling in the correct places. There was also a grinding sound. The first time the contractor came around, they thought maybe it was the filter. They said they don't carry a filter. So, we had to go out to Home Depot and put in the filter. But that did not solve the problem because it still made that grinding noise. So, I had them come out again to do the repair. And when they went into the attic this time, they found that there was a loose cable. Once they reattached it, the grinding noise stopped and everything is working fine.

The air conditioner quit running in the middle of the night. I called American Home Shield's 800 number. The only problem I had with the rep was English was a second language. He had a bit of an accent problem. But I was pleased with the contractor. It turned out to be a clogged-up drain line, which turned off the overflow switch.

For my recent claim with AHS, my washer wouldn't complete a cycle. It got stuck in some places sometimes. There is a drain and spin function on here that wouldn't work unless I tried it three or four times. The first time the tech came out, he said it was the shocks. He said it needed some new shocks. He ordered them. He came out and he replaced them. But it worked for one or two cycles and then it started doing it again.
He came back out. He was having problems trying to figure out what the problem was, except he said the shocks are all of them in there and one of them wasn't correct. So he was gonna have to order some more shocks plus do a little bit more research as to what could possibly be going on. I'm at this point waiting on a callback for him to come and finish it.

I've called American Home Shield out for little stuff and they've taken care of it with no issues. When the AC wasn't working, the technician came out and looked at it. There was a leak on the evaporator coil and he said it needs to be replaced. There was some mold or algae on the evaporator coil, which is normal on any unit because it's cold and wet, and it evaporates and that's the environment mold lives in. American Home kept saying that the technician for the company that came out said that the leak was due to mold or algae. But the company that came out said they never said that. But American Home kept saying that they said that.
I had the contractor people that came out send me their report and the report never said that the mold or algae contributed to the leak. It did say that it had mold and algae and that that would have to be cleaned before the repairs were done, but nowhere on that report did it say anything that it contributed to the leak. I tried to communicate that with American Home Shield.
One thing I hate is that American Home Shield goes through people that are from a different country. They're taking the call but they really don't understand, and it's hard to communicate with them. But I was trying to tell them. I even sent them a copy of the report. I've talked to four different AC companies here in Victoria and they all said that mold and algae would not contribute to leak. It's not a corrosive material. It's normal. But American Home Shield declined the claim because they said that the leak was because of mold and algae.
I sent the BBB the report that I got. American Home Shield said that they would send out another technician with a different company to get a second opinion, but that never happened. The company that they sent was so shady. The contractor they sent out of Houston came at 7:00 in the evening, which was fine. I was home. The guy looked at it and he was good. He did his job. But the next morning, I had another guy from that company out of Houston trying to sell me a whole brand-new unit.
The contractor stated on the report that the mold and algae have to be removed. But if you're replacing that evaporator coil, you're replacing the whole thing, so it's useless to clean that mold and algae if you're taking it out and putting a new one in there. That was what the other contractors had told me that I called just to get an opinion on it.
When I called the contractor, I said, "Can you please send them an email and say that the mold and algae did not contribute to the leak? I'm not asking you to lie. That's a true statement." They said, "Well, there's nothing we can do about it. They already made their decision." But I told them, "No, they're saying y'all are telling them that the mold and algae contributed and you're telling me y'all are not telling them that. Can you do a three-way email statement?" But they said no. They declined that. I kept going back and forth, and this went on for weeks and I was so frustrated with it. It was a big pain in the butt.

I called American Home Shield for an AC issue and spoke with a representative who was so helpful. The technician from Seabreez was excellent. He was so professional. That was a second opinion. The first one was a cheater. He didn't check anything. He didn't even try to turn on the AC. He came, went up to the attic, and he came back with a conclusion. He said, "No, you should not do this. And you burned the AC, and I have to order a new board for the AC." He left. I had to stay in heat for 10 days because he didn't submit his diagnosis for six days. I kept calling and nobody got anything. So I called AHS back, and they said, "We're gonna send a second opinion." The second one from Seabreez was a good person. He figured out that somebody messed up the wires, but the board is okay. The AC is okay. It just needs a bigger fan outside.

American Home Shield's service has been fine, so far. It's hard to get somebody, but I've had one service call in the last year or so, and it was handled fine. I had trouble getting an appointment online. Because when I put in my address and my contract number, it said, "No record of such," but when I called, they found it right away. The tech who came was great. He was very nice and professional, but he couldn't pinpoint the problem with my AC. It doesn't cool as quickly as it did back in the day, but it's working and I'm not going to spend another $75 to have somebody come out and tell me the same thing. It hasn't gotten worse, so I just have to wait until it goes. If something major goes wrong, I'm hoping that American Home Shield comes through as hoped for after paying the premium all these years.

American Home Shield has been wonderful. If I'm not satisfied with one company, I can call customer service and they will get someone else. I did a claim recently for one leaky valve and one that was clogged. Two young men came and they looked like they weren't old enough to work. They got the job done in less than an hour. All in all, American Home Shield is a good company. The price has gone up slightly but everything has.

American Home Shield has been terrific. I put everything online then I get a text telling us who will be contacting us for the service that we need. It's immediate. Bob recently came from Martin Plumbing. He was wonderful. He even cleaned up the toilet before he left. I never had a plumber clean up, but he did.

My experience with American Home Shield was good. The Lindsay Company came out and they still have to order some parts. So, I’m waiting for them to finish it up.

We submitted the claim to have someone come and look at the air conditioner. When the technician came and looked at it, he checked the coolant stuff and saw that it was good. He checked our filter, and the filter had gotten clogged, so he replaced that. Then gave us some tips about closing some of the vents in the house to help the airflow go where we wanted it more. The tech was very nice and professional when he came. What he told us did make a difference. Now, the temperature is starting to cool down. So it's still running.

AHS has worked out well so far. When the dishwasher wasn't working, the repairman was able to fix that. He also helped with the garbage disposal. That was messed up. He cleared it up well. AHS could have more options though. It’s programmed by categories, and whatever category that I choose, it has to be within that same category. There could be an option for a different category when filing a claim.

American Home Shield has been right on top of everything. Recently, the ice machine went out in the refrigerator. We had someone come out and look at it then we chose to go ahead and put it on warranty because their cost of coming out and fixing it was going to be insane. We checked in on the warranty and they came out, gave us an estimate then came out and fixed it. It went back out again so we called back. But it was something different. They came back out, looked at it and said they were going to replace it. They set a date to come back out, but it was a date that we couldn't make. We asked them to change it, so they changed it. They contacted us a few days before and said they got the parts in early. They wanted to move it to a certain date which was the date that we already told them we couldn't do. They put it off again.
When they got out there, the tech opened up the box. There was supposed to be a new part. Apparently, somebody had raided the box and taken all the critical parts out of it. She couldn't replace the machine. She got in there and did something with the gears on the other one and got it working. But I don't know how long it's going to work. It makes some hideous racket sometimes. If it goes out again, we'll call them back out. When the tech gets there, they do a fabulous job. But their customer service needs some help.

So far, American Home Shield has been good for us. We just got a new washing machine. Lowe's was having a $201 off sale on their washer machine, so I got the eCard. We only paid $175 and some cents for it. American Home Shield has always come and done their due diligence. We also got a new refrigerator and a new microwave.

Whenever I have a problem, within a reasonable time, American Home Shield schedules an appointment and then sends someone to take care of it. I haven't had a problem at all. The contractors know what they’re doing and don’t depend on me. I appreciate AHS and I don’t have to call anyone. As long as it’s not on the weekend, the turn-around time is great. But they need to be on-call for the weekend. Because if something happens, there's nothing that can be done until Monday.
