    My Tech Joe Appliance came out for our dishwasher. One of the shelves had a part that broke off. We explained the problem over the phone to them, and they wanted to make sure they had the right part. We gave them the serial number and they came out with the right part. They were very prompt and fixed it within a couple of days. I also had a leak around the toilet, and a contractor came out and replaced the ring. My only complaint is that sometimes I have trouble understanding the people I'm talking to on the other end of the line, and they have trouble understanding me. After so many minutes, I finally get my point across. What they had to do was cancel that one service appointment then they had to get somebody else to do it. The first lady I talked to said she did it but on Saturday that I was supposed to receive an email, I didn’t.

    I called them again and the second lady didn't speak quite as eloquent of English, but she got the job done. The heating people were out today and diagnosed the problem on the gas furnace. The spark that lights the gas is not working so they have to replace that part. They called me and said it might be a couple more days before we have heat because they've got to call and order the part. I got a call not more than an hour or two after he left. They said, “Good news. We got approval by American Home Shield. We have the part in stock, and we'll be out tomorrow between 9:00 and 12:00 to fix it." That's perfect. My overall experience has been very good with American Home Shield.

    My ice maker was leaking water on the right side which was causing no ice to be made. But when it would overfill, it would just make one big ice cube on the right-hand side. Another issue I had was the element in my oven went bad and the appliance was taking over an hour to preheat. Since the pandemic, technicians do a virtual visit first. During which, they can gather all the information they need to order the parts so when they come out, they would have the parts they need in order to do their job. The repair company ordered the parts and scheduled a meeting. A tech showed up when he was supposed to. He was fast and efficient. Everything's working well so far.

    2020 changed the game for American Home Shield. With the initial intake, you can either call over the phone if you're old school or in my case, I do it right on my app, which makes it really easy. For my ice maker and oven claims, I got a text message the same day that a repair company was contacted and that they would reach out to schedule a meeting. I work from home so they were able to call me within 15 minutes, which was a good deal. What made American Home Shield a value for our family was we were a one-income family for a few years and it was easier for me to budget monthly. I was able to budget better by knowing it was $55 a month and it was covered with a 100 deductible.

    In the beginning, I had a lot of problems with American Home Shield. My furnace would go out. I live in Wisconsin. When it’s 20 below, I can’t have a furnace guy who would call in the next 48 hours. It doesn't work that way. At some point, I was about ready to quit but I didn’t. AHS got better. They have replaced my furnace. It’s like any other insurance. You hate paying for it, but when a problem is there, you got it. You hope nothing happens, but you’re paying for nothing. If you have a problem once in a while, and you can get AHS out here, you would think, “Well, I guess it is worth it.” And after you pay for it for a couple of years and don’t use it, you would think, “Man, this is a waste of money.” Then something happens, and you would say, “I’m glad I got it.” It goes back and forth.

    The tech has been here before. It was through him when another time I had an electrical issue. This time, the light switches weren’t working. He replaced one outlet thing. One was not hooked up all the way, so he rehooked that up and replaced another, and everything worked. He was good. I’ve had AHS for a long time. I like the peace of mind. Trying to find anybody to do work nowadays is getting impossible.

    In February, my microwave went out. I called American Home Shield and the service company came out and ordered parts. About two and a half months later, when the parts got here, another serviceman came out and said, “We can’t put them in. It’s a fire danger. Your unit has to be replaced.” They were going to replace the unit, but the unit that I needed that would fit into the space was not available. Because of the pandemic, General Electric stopped manufacturing, but it'll be ready in February of next year. I'm waiting until then to get something that I paid an insurance fee for, and I pay every month.

    My renter in Connell moved out and didn’t tell me the problems that they were having. I called American Home Shield on a couple things. For the first couple of times that I called them about, they were really good. But this last time, I called them on the dishwasher and the oven. They said, “We can't get anybody. You've got to get somebody yourself.” I called somebody and they said American Home Shield called them but they never gave authorization. I told them to go ahead and do it but to make sure they call American Home Shield if they had to do anything. They didn't do anything and said both units needed to be replaced. The oven was out of date, and they couldn't get the parts for it. For the dishwasher, they said, “It's gonna cost more for the parts and for us to come back out and fix it than it would be to replace it.” They charged me 300 and some dollars for that.

    I followed the instructions and sent in the paperwork to American Home Shield. They sent me an email back saying, “This is denied because they didn't call us before they did any work.” I told them that the contractor didn’t do any work. All they did was come out, make an observation and said they needed to be replaced. I’m still waiting to hear back from American Home Shield on that 300 and some dollar bill, plus I need them to find somebody to repair both of them or replace them.

    When I had an electrical problem, it was the same thing. I have to call my own person because American Home Shield said, “We can't find anybody that works out there.” But they can because one of the calls I made about three years ago to American Home Shield was for an electrician. I found my own person and it took forever to find them and go through the process, and for them to come out. I'm still waiting for a bill from them. Now, I'm going to have to go through the same process with American Home Shield when I get their bill. I hope that they don't do the same thing they did with the dishwasher and the oven.

    I had over five contracts with American Home Shield and I've dropped three of them because of their poor service. I had a refrigerator that went out on another rental property. They sent a repairman out and the repairman said that the refrigerator needed to be replaced. American Home Shied said a second opinion was needed but they sent out the same people who said the same thing. It took me six months for American Home Shield to replace my refrigerator. I had a window air conditioner and didn't know that they didn't cover it. But when I called in, I told them, “I've taken it out of the window, and I need to have it repaired." The repairperson came out, looked at it, and said they couldn't fix it under American Home Shield because they don't pay for window units. I paid the $100 for that but they wouldn’t refund it.

    American Home Shield used to be excellent. But now, they're terrible. They're good people at the call center but I've never got a call back on any of the issues that I've talked to them about and there’s no number I can call and discuss this with except for the call center. But the call center can't do anything. They just look on the screen and can't help me. I assume they're blocked by American Home Shield from giving out a number I can talk to some person in the United States that can do something for me.

    The circuits that were installed in the house were wearing out quite fast so the same company has come out every time and has done great work. The repair guy has looked over the problem and has figured out which circuit breakers were having problems, and replaced it, and we haven’t had a problem with that circuit since. The circuit breaker seems to be higher in grade and higher in fault tolerance than previous circuit breakers.

    My husband and I both are satisfied with American Home Shield. I would definitely recommend them. We've had them since we bought the house and within the first year, we had to use them twice.     The freezer door of our Sub-Zero wouldn't close and there was anywhere between an inch and two inches of ice on various parts of the freezer. We assumed it was a frost malfunction or extra frost production. We went on the American Home Shield website, clicked the problem, and they assigned a contractor. The website has always been good. Sometimes the dropdown doesn't cover our issue so we press other and type in the problem. Usually, we only get the name, the website, and the phone number of the contractor afterward.

    The ones who came for our freezer claim were very professional. They diagnosed the problem quite quickly and solved it for us. What was best was they followed up. Three months after, a rep called me and asked if we were still having any issues. The contractor didn't close the ticket until I said, "No." Our unit is back to normal. I wouldn't have been able to use the freezer without this repair. American Home Shield has comprehensive coverage, reliable service, and good customer service. I'd recommend it.

    The washing machine wasn’t draining the water out. When the tech came, he changed the motherboard and it worked fine. Then it did it again, so I had to call them again. And when he was there, it wasn't doing it and he said that there was nothing wrong. So last night, I tried washing a little bit of clothes and I was about to call AHS again this morning as my clothes are still soaking wet. This issue has been going on for about a month and a half now. But the tech was awesome. He even told me that if it was not fixed, then I got to keep calling and maybe AHS would send somebody else and see what they'd say because he had done everything he could. Other than that, everything's been good with AHS.

    I would have the thermostat set and the temperature would never really get up to that temperature that I had it set at. Techs came and they were very friendly and professional. They had to do some kind of wiring problem fix. There was also frost or a leakage thing that went from the furnace on the line that goes to the air conditioner and they took care of that. The unit is working well now. Getting a home a warranty is a very good idea. It came in very handy in my case. I didn't know I would need it quite so soon but worked out.

    Submitting claims is easy. The system was down one day and all I did was call it in, so it ended up working. American Home Shield's response time is good, and they have reliable contractors. All of the time that I’ve had someone come out, they’ve been able to fix the situation on the first visit.     I got two services and both went very good. One for plumbing, another with the oven top. But sometimes, when we need urgent service, it is very difficult to get the technician right away. For example, last winter, I had our heater not working in the house so I had to call American Home Shield several times. It broke and we were without heat for several days. I had to fight with them. I just used some aggressive language. Only then they scheduled and the technician came right away. Otherwise, they were just postponing and not coming. The technicians they are working with don’t come in the weekend and we are not available in the house during the weekdays. That's the only problem. Other than that, they did all that I needed in a way that I thought of. It went very good. The warranty is good for some type of person like me who does not know anything how to fix the house.

    At the moment, I'm not really enjoying American Home Shield's service because I have a lot of issues going on. I have a Smeg oven that went out on Thanksgiving. I called the next day to put the service request in and they sent out a technician. The technician told me that the oven I have can't be serviced. The contractor has to be certified with Smeg in order to service it. They can't even get the parts for it because it's a special type of oven. The tech informed AHS of the situation and told them exactly what needed to be done. But AHS keeps sending people to my house that are not authorized to service it. Several companies have told me that they don't know why AHS keeps requesting different people.

    I keep saying AHS needs to make sure the contractor is certified before they come out. There's no reason for them to come out wasting my time. And I haven't had an oven since Thanksgiving and it's about to be Christmas. I have spent a lot of money eating out because I have no oven. They then sent this technician out and they assured me that they were certified. But the technician got here and I asked him if he had ever worked on this oven before and he said, "No." He proceeded to take my oven out and take it apart. I took pictures of him doing it to make sure, so I can have some verification. He told me it was the heating element and he had to order a part.

    I didn't hear back from the tech and I called AHS. They proceeded to tell me that the contractor said it was a power surge due to a thunderstorm. There hasn't been a thunderstorm here in over a month. We were in a deficit drought because it hadn't even rained for a month. I have tried to get it escalated to different departments and no one will help me. They keep saying they're going to find somebody and help me out. They said they would call me back but no one has called me back. I still have no oven. Also, AHS should take All American Appliance off their list. They misrepresented that they were certified.

    Recently, our kitchen sink wouldn't drain properly. Van Allen Plumbing came out, ran a Roto-Rooter down there, and cleaned out the blockage. They were pleasant. It's just that the claims process with AHS needs improvement. We thought about canceling a few times because sometimes it was hard to get people in a timely manner. We're waiting right now because our heater’s up. We called yesterday morning, and the people AHS assigned it to called back right away, but they can’t get us in until December 27th. We can't wait a week and a half with our heater not functioning so we called AHS back. Now they're trying to find someone else. The quality of the contractors seems to be pretty good. But sometimes, the timeliness is not as good as it should be. My mother-in-law had a problem with AHS with that as well. Nonetheless, we like the extra insurance and we've seen a benefit, or else we wouldn't still be paying. We have a couple of rentals too that we have it on.

    I tried Choice Home a year ago. However, their coverages weren't as good as American Home Shield. There were some things that were excluded that AHS' service warranty included. As a result, I went back to AHS. I enjoy the service with the exception of the service fee which is too high. But my husband told me if we have a big appliance that goes out, it's well worth it. That is the only drawback that I have against them.

    I like to call in to request for service. I want to be on hand talking to a live person. The recent tech that was sent out was very good. He was timely, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. His name was Tyler. I'm in an older home and we have the little heater ceiling fan. I had that done. And to try to utilize the full extent of my $100 service fee, I had him fix electrical outlets because we can have three different service requests within our one call as long as they are in the same category. I always try to utilize that.

    My AC issue started in May and up till now, it hasn't been fully resolved because of the delays and different things that happened. American Home Shield just left me to take over the responsibility. I ordered the part of the unit that went bad and I’m waiting for the arrival. When it comes, then I will get by with them with the receipts that they suggest that I produce when I get it. The issue with regards to that, the air handler that they had ordered for me was not compatible with the condenser and so I had to personally buy the one that will match, which cost about $600 difference than they were offering me. I'm also going to be responsible for the installation because on that arrangement, it looks like I can’t fight City Hall.

    The policy is just so lengthy to read and comprehend. Then I thought they would have been reasonable in dealing with me because I was actually doing them a favor by purchasing a brand new condenser which will not give them problems in the future in terms of repairs, and I don't think they appreciated that aspect. I will recommend them but the buyer has to beware that they're not a government agency so they're there to make money.

    Bert's Appliance came out to fix the washing machine. The starter button was broken and they ordered the parts. The part came in, the guy went back, and put it in. They have been coming here for years. They fixed the stove and a couple of things in my house. Very professional and very nice.     The hot water heater went out and the water smelled like eggs. The contractor put the new hot water heater in but the water still smells like eggs. They're saying it's not sulfur so I don't know what it is. But everything was done quickly and they were professional. It’s simple when you do the claims online. When you call, you got to go through so much to get to somebody. It can use some improvement. You need to be patient if you're going to call in and start a new claim because they sometimes can be a little erratic. But if you do it online, it's smooth sailing.

    I've had AHS for five years now and I've received good service. They're always prompt. I had a plumbing issue one time and I was able to fix it myself. When I called them back within 24 hours, they were able to refund their deductible back to me because someone had not been dispatched at the time. Another claim was for our refrigerator that wasn't working and Sears came out. The tech said it had something to do with the sump pump. He looked over, reviewed, and everything was working for like a day. The next day, the ice maker wouldn't dispense ice so we called them back out. The second technician was a different technician and I mentioned that there was something wrong with the freezer. He was not professional but he fixed it and now everything is working great again.

    The dryer wasn't working. The tech was courteous and he fixed the problem. But he had to order the part and it took another week. He could have fixed it right there and then, but it did not happen because he didn't have his truck the first time he came. But AHS has been pretty good, so far.

    I've been with American Home Shield for almost five years. I love the website. It's really simple to add a claim. Then they text me right back that someone's been scheduled. I have never been disappointed with the contractors, too. I've done several claims 'cause my house is older, so things break. I've done three in the last year and everybody's been great to work with. I kept renewing AHS because I liked the service so much. I liked it so much my father-in-law just bought a contract with them last year. I recommended it to him.     There was a switch that remained on that caused my outside unit to completely freeze up. My unit was constantly running but it wouldn't blow any cold or hot air. A tech came out and he was fabulous. He found the problem, let the unit defrost then came back a few days later and replaced the switch. The blower is working beautifully.

    I used American Home Shield's service for my AC at least three times. When I've needed a new dishwasher, they replaced that for me. It was the same for my dryer. The claim process has been excellent for the most part. There was only one time that I had difficulty. American Home Shield has different policies. I have the minimal one but you can get other ones that will cover roof damage. It depends on your needs.

    It takes a while for people to come out to fix anything. Sometimes, it's a week or more for contractors to come out. I had some trouble with my air conditioner a few years back. It ended up costing me a lot. It was over $1,000 because something wasn't covered, but the unit works fine now. Recently, I have a faucet that just has one knob on it and it goes back and forth. It was hard to turn on or off, or choose just cold water. The tech came out within a few days and fixed that. He seemed nice.

    Advanced Heating & A/C has done a great job. I'm very pleased with them. They've done multiple things for us. Every time they come, they're wonderful. The most recent one was a part went bad on it and then it continued to not work so he came right back. He's now ordered a fan part and they're going to deliver it tomorrow. Also, having the insurance has been wonderful for our heat and air units.

    The only thing I had problems with was the plumber that they originally assigned us. That plumber was never responsive. I called AHS and talked to them. They were great and found me a different plumber who comes an hour and 20 minutes from Memphis. I also like that I can go online and set up a thing. Especially with the heating, Advanced Heating & A/C, they're extremely responsive. If I go online with American Home Shield, they go turn around, get them and they reply to me also immediately. I get text messages and email alerts. It's been a great process.

    I don’t love paying the money every month, but in the long run, it has been wonderful. The only thing that I have been a little bit disappointed about is it doesn't cover anything on the outside of the house. It only covers things on the inside unless you get a special policy, which we did for the pool and it has paid off because we've had to replace almost everything on the outside of our pool as well. AHS has been definitely beneficial to us in having an older home.

    I use four fluorescent lights in the bathroom -- two on one side and two on the other side -- and on one side, the lights kept burning out. The electrician from First City Electric explained to me there are different kinds of fluorescent. I showed him what I had and he explained that. He did whatever he needed to do and the issue has been corrected since.

    The other part of that visit was on my outside garage wall, I have a light that has a dimmer switch on it. It comes on with motion and it was not working. When they got here, he messed around with it. Someone else had put the bulb in and put it in incorrectly. It didn't need to be done but American Home Shield said it was not a valid claim. They sent me a letter saying that it was not covered because it was not attached to the house foundation. I don't know what that means and I didn't think it was right. But I didn't argue with him about it and I didn't file any kind of grievance.

    I've been very satisfied with AHS, except for when I had an argument with them about the air conditioner, which they paid nothing for. I had a 31-year-old air conditioning unit in my house and they sent two different people out because I argued about the first one and they put another person out who said the same thing only after I had said it to him. They said that there was a bend in the line inside the air conditioning unit. It had been damaged and bent. And they were very adamant that it was my fault. I'm 86 years old. How did I get in there and bent it? I thought they just didn't want to pay for a high price item like an air conditioner. I felt that that was not a fair call.

    Other than that, over the length of time, AHS has done repairs on everything -- dryer, washer, air conditioner, lights, plumbing. A couple of times, I've had problems with the heater and they sent several different people out before they got it to work at no extra charge. They didn't argue about it. Also, they seem to do a good job of selecting the companies and the people who come out and do the jobs. They've been clean. They're very careful about taking off shoes if they have to go on the carpet.

    I had some problems with a leaky cut-off valve underneath the sink and American Home Shield sent somebody out. The guy repaired it and did a great job. We’ve been with AHS for 13 years at least. They always get somebody out there quickly when things go wrong and they get somebody that's good and professional in what they do. A plumber that works in your house is $200.     With COVID, American Home Shield is doing great. It's just that sometimes, if there's an issue that needs to be resolved on a weekend, their affiliate may not be open, so it's not always guaranteed a quick response. Then not 100% of everything is covered. For instance, we had a water heater replaced recently. If it has to be made up to code or there's something that’s a modification, Home Shield will not cover it, so we will have some out-of-pocket expenses. But they’ve been very helpful and efficient for the most part.

    In my recent claim, the unit was turning on and then immediately shutting off. The first technician came out and thought it was the flue that was blocked. He thought he had fixed the issue, but it continued doing it later on. It hasn't been 100% resolved. But they've been very efficient about coming out and taking care of the issue. There's supposed to be a technician coming out today to look at it again.

    When I need American Home Shield’s service, it's there for me. And the deductible is something I can work with. It is not too high, though I wish the rates don't go up every year, but that's understandable. Besides that, I had experiences that were very bad where whoever they chose to come out here were not good companies. I mentioned that to them and they took care of it for me and changed the company. But I got another one last time where they gave me the same company that I didn't like. They changed it but something like this was not noted. I also had a plumber recently and he did the work that he needed to do. But at first, AHS gave me another company and I had mentioned to them the first time to change that. We had trouble with them and I saw that the rates were not good. Other than that, everything is fine with AHS.

    We’re happy that we have American Home Shield but we've been disappointed a few times. When our refrigerator died, it took six repair people to come in before they finally said it was not fixable and got a new one. My one major complaint is that any problem that we have isn't considered an emergency. We were without a refrigerator for about two and a half months and it was not an emergency. If the heat goes out and it's negative 10 degrees and they can't get a contractor out for three weeks, there's no such thing as an emergency call.

    Also, it would be nice to have some say in who comes out. With the refrigerator repair people, one of them burned holes in my linoleum with a blowtorch. I had to take it up with that particular contractor and it took me two months to get American Home Shield to agree to replace the linoleum that was damaged. Had I been able to pick the contractor, I wouldn't have picked them because we had had them out several times and we weren't getting any resolution with the refrigerator problem. I would have gone with someone else.

    But just recently, we had a problem with our furnace and American Home Shield offered a tune-up. The contractor they sent for the tune-up found a problem and they scheduled the work right away. It was not even a week and we had a brand new furnace. Also, American Home Shield is very professional. When we call in and we need assistance, they've been helpful in scheduling things and they send out reminder calls or texts to let us know that we have an upcoming service scheduled. Their sense of organization is great.

    The most recent claim that I did with American Home Shield was for a plumbing issue. Initially, I asked to have someone install a new toilet, a new faucet in the kitchen, and check a leak in the laundry room. The contractor installed the toilet and the faucets. But they were iffy on the leak in laundry room. The next day, I discovered that I had a blockage in my water line. I could only conclude that the contractor had gotten some of the wax ring off in the hole drain line from the toilet because I kept checking on them and I noticed that they were struggling to get it up and pieces were going everywhere. Also, they didn't cover the hole.

    I called back the contractor because the faucet that they installed was not working properly. I can only get cold water and no hot water. The tech didn't flush the lines out. So he came back and I mentioned that my drain lines were clogged up. He said, “Well, I don't know what the problem is.” I said, “Well, I think you kind of stopped it up when you were installing that toilet.” Then he said, “Well, it wasn’t me.” I saw him get his little red routing tool out to try to unclog it a little bit.

    I kept having the problem so I called American Home Shield back to have someone come out and unclog the line and to route the line out. They tried to send me the same guy but I said I didn't want the same person. They told me that someone will come and unclog it but I have to make another call and pay another fee. But I said this was the result of the last visit and they need to make it right. Then they told me that they couldn't send anybody else and that they have to send the same people out. So I said, “Well, forget it. You can cancel the service, because I don't want the same person coming out here, messing up my lines again.” Then somebody called me back and said they found somebody else and that they would send them and they would give me a discount on my fee. After a little talking with them, I agreed to do that. So they sent a guy out and he was able to unclog the line. So far, everything seems to be good.

    The last guy that came out was very knowledgeable. But the previous guy was okay, except they were just playing the game of how to get additional fees. Prior to this claim, I was having problems with my furnace and the contractor could never figure out what the problem was. It was working, but at certain times, it would be cold in the house. It was not warming up no matter what the setting was on the thermostat. I told the tech that maybe the thermostat needed to be changed. But he said, “No, it's fine.” He was nonchalant. Eventually, I figured out the problem on my own and based on something an old engineer had told me years ago about where your thermostat is located and furnishings blocking the thermostat. I had a huge glass box sitting beside the thermostat on a table. It was right at the doorway so it was blocking the settings and it couldn't adjust. Once I moved it, it eventually reset.

    American Plumbing Solutions was great. The tech said he had to tighten up some nuts on the washer and dryer. He resolved the problem. It’s simple to go through American Home Shield when you call them. But you should be able to file more than one claim together because you're paying $100 deductible for each claim you claim, and they may be the same thing.

    I now would have to file another claim for my sink in my kitchen. It’s leaking. The guy could have done both of those work orders on the same thing. The guy was in my house probably about 10 minutes, and fixed the problem. I'm paying for his knowledge so, I'm good with that. But in the same token, he could have looked at my sink and maybe fixed it. Right now, that's one of the things that making me want to leave AHS. Plumbing is plumbing. If it's electrical, it's electrical. It doesn’t make a difference if it's electrical in the kitchen and electrical in the bedroom. But AHS is gonna make you fill out two different claims. So, I don't like that. For the most part, they've been good. I just got a problem with how I pay the deductible.

    American Home Shield seemed like they were better quality for the money. They have things explained pretty well online, as far as what’s covered. We used them when the kitchen faucet was loose. It was not leaking and all the connections were there. Techs came and tightened it down. It was a simple fix and they were done in just 5 or 10 minutes.

    We also got an email from American Home Shield saying it was time to do a tune-up on our HVAC system. I went through the process of doing it. You pay first then they assign you to a professional. The professional called, we set up an appointment, and they didn't show up. I called American Home Shield and told them about that.

    The next year when American Home Shield sent me a message saying it was time to do a check on the HVAC system, I called instead of doing the claim online. I wanted to make sure I didn't use the same people because they canceled on me. American Home Shield said that was not a problem and to just go through the system. I went through the system and paid for it. I got assigned the same contractor. I gave them a try and they canceled on me again. I called American Home Shield and said, “Look, this is twice now that they've been no shows. I want to go with somebody else." They told me to cancel my service request and they would reimburse me for it and just schedule somebody else. They would give me a different contractor. I did that. Again, you have to pay first then they assign a contractor.

    It was a clunky process to get somebody and it didn't default to the contractor that they always used. I told American Home Shield to stop using that contractor that didn't show up because they are not reliable. I didn't get any feedback on whether or not they took that under consideration. It took two weeks to get reimbursed for the first cancellation. If you have something routine and you know it works smoothly, then the process is good. But when you have a problem with the contractor, it's a little clunky.

    American Home Shield is incredible as far as what they are willing to do for you. The website’s easy to handle. It’s wonderful to just go in and be able to file a claim. You don't have to wait for somebody. They send you almost immediately an email, telling you who's going to be the provider. In the next 24 hours, or sooner more than likely, you'll hear from the company itself and they’ll let you know when they're coming. But some of their people don't have English as a third language, much less a first language. They don't understand what you're saying and I often have ask to get a manager involved. I've had to get claims escalated. They keep putting me on hold and telling me that they’ll be back in just a couple of minutes. I do not want one of their contractors to come into my house. I was without air conditioning in July and August and it ended up being they still didn't get it right.

    I couldn't turn on or off the hot water and the repair guy took the internal parts apart. He said that a gasket was broken. He checked the other one and made the decision to change both of them. They worked perfectly. He did a great job, was very courteous and knew his business. I was a little skeptical when he started, but he knew exactly what to do.

    It was very difficult to communicate with customer service though. The reps didn't speak English very well and in this particular case, they didn’t perform the service that they should. On the work ticket that I had prior to that, which was my freezer, it took about four weeks to get repaired and calling customer service was of no help at all. It was very frustrating. It takes American Homes Shield a long time from the moment I make the call until the actual action to collect it. This particular case was on a Friday and the guy didn't get to it until a Tuesday. If that had been a broken pipe, that would have been a disaster. Still, I am very pleased that I have a home warranty. I can pick up the phone or go online and create a work ticket, which is great.

    The oven light went out in the oven and the LED lights went out in the refrigerator. The claim process took a number of weeks. It was a parts issue more than the service. The service people came promptly although they were awfully busy. It took 10 days for them to come. The tech assessed the problem right away and said he would get the parts on order. As soon as they came, they came back and fixed my appliances.

    I'm very pleased and quite impressed. American Home Shield got the job done for me. I called when the oven light went out, and could not be replaced by a simple bulb replacement. I called and they had Elite out as soon as Elite was available. They did a wonderful job. AHS has nothing but my kudos for the job that they did for me. Buying premium appliances and paying a good price for them is no guarantee that you're not going to have trouble even when they're fairly new. Be prudent and get insurance just like you would on your life or your car.

When I first started, I had an issue with my air conditioning. Everything worked out fine with that. At another time, I called on a weekend and the repair people came that Monday. The first guy was new though. One of my receptacles wasn't working and he took a little while and called somebody else. The other guy came a couple of days later, and he was able to fix it right away. He was more experienced.

    The water heater pilot light wasn't staying lit and I had to call the plumber, DBA, out four times. They thought they fixed the issue until they finally figured out that it was the orifice that needed to be changed. But the techs were both very nice gentlemen. AHS replaced my water heater and I'm very pleased with their service. But I don't know if there's a coverage that's a little bit more of an upgrade because the first time I had called them out, I had a plumbing issue and I know certain plumbing things weren't covered but it was covered. Then, three months later, I had the same issue just a little bit further down the line and they didn't cover it. I had to pay out of pocket for that. I compared the invoices between that claim and the first one and they were the same thing.

    I don't understand why it was covered the first time and not covered the next. I emailed several times and I never got a reply. So much had passed, I asked their rep and they said that it was a manufacturer thing. At least that rep answered my question. Other than that, I would recommend AHS because I've had no problems with them getting back to me right away.

    I have a gas furnace and the heat would not come on. I've tried a few things to try to get it to come on. Nothing worked. I called American Home Shield and they assigned me to someone else. That vendor had some technical issue where the computer system was down for a couple of days. I asked American Home Shield to reassign me. They assigned me to Cecil & Sons. They responded quickly and they came out in the next available appointment window. I had a good experience with the customer service part of it and setting up the appointment. Once they came out, the technician did an assessment, and then he checked to see the connections. He found the problem and corrected the issue. It's been working well ever since.

    I've been with AHS for at least two years now. They're much better now than they were before. I had a lot of issues before getting connected to a contractor and then having someone to come out to do the work. That was an issue that was happening frequently in the first couple of months that I had the service. But now, the last three times that I've used them, the system had been moving a lot more efficiently.

    My claim was the air conditioner where the heating and cooling system wasn't working. It went all right. The technician came out and fixed it. He didn't replace the part that was defective with the same part. It was a lesser quality that didn't do what my other one did. My other one was a Wi-Fi enabled device, and this was just a standard control, which was a lot less expensive than the Wi-Fi enabled device. It keeps me from not having to be able to remotely control the unit. It would be nice if they would provide the same type of device. It didn't have to be the same brand, but function the same.

    I have also had past repairs. American Home Shield gets your service working. Whatever the problem is, if it's not working, they get it working. And it's not exactly what you had, but it is working, so that's good. Instead of being extremely hot in the summer, at least they get you the air conditioner working again. Or if it's extremely cold in the winter, at least you're warm.

    The techs from Master Pro had been out more than once for the refrigerator that wasn't cooling. They came back out in September and replaced the part on it. When they left, a few weeks later, the refrigerator went right back out. When I called American Home Shield, they made me pay another deductible because it had went right over a month. Then, it took them another three weeks to come out, so we had no refrigerator for almost a month again. Another service company came out before they did who said that they couldn't do the repair and they didn't know how to fix it. When Master Pro's techs came out, they said that an electronic component was blown out, so they said it was in the best decision to replace the refrigerator.

    The people who came out were nice but the claim could have been resolved a little bit better because they caused somebody to go without a refrigerator for a month. We were dealing with people food and this case, there was medicine that needed to be refrigerated but couldn't get really refrigerated right. There seemed to be a lack of urgency from AHS. AHS sent me to Lowe's to get a replacement but I went to Home Depot. I tried to replace it, but with them, you got to wait three or four weeks. So I still had to wait for AHS to try to get some more service because everything was behind.

    Sometimes the techs come out and they would rush on some cases. There may be cases where they may have taken some time to reappear and in cases like my refrigerator, AHS wanted me to keep paying the deductible. I also had some plumbing issues earlier in the year and AHS kept charging and charging the deductible every time the techs came out. And sometimes they were not assessing that it was the same issue or an issue that was contingent upon the last issue, and just said that the plumber never repaired or the service technician never repaired the original issue correctly. They can do a better job in assessing the problem. But stuff happens and despite all that, I'm not totally thrown off by American Home Shield. I've had more positive than negative experiences with them.

    We have American Home Shield so if something breaks in the house, we have it covered. We call them then their contractor comes out and does it. We have had nothing but very good experience with them in all the years. If something doesn't get done right away, I call them and they're very pleasant. Things get results. American Home Shield is a blessing. I've been with them so long and I'm proud that the service has been so good. I'm very content. They're pretty good about sending us in the mail exactly what is covered. Also, now it's easier because you are able to go online and put your service in. It's very clear-cut and easy to follow. Sometimes, as consumers, people may want things done here and now. They forget that there's a line waiting, too.     Our refrigerator had trouble. We had a guy come out and he diagnosed it, it was the compressor, but he could not fix it because he didn't have the right parts, so he sent it back to Home Shield to get somebody else that has the right parts. We waited and waited and for over a week. Then I called Home Shield again, and the girl insisted that I start all over again, and she was gonna call that same company again. I told her that we've already done that and I shouldn't have to start over. She made me do the video thing again. Then I kept asking to talk to a supervisor, and she would not let me, so I finally hung up on her 'cause I couldn't get her off the phone. I called back and got somebody else and then, and we finally got it done.

    The second tech said that he might have the part at the shop but he was booked. Then he called back that afternoon as he had a cancellation and he had the stuff, and he was on it that day. He said that he doesn't normally do this, but we have been without a refrigerator long enough. He was so excellent. Home Shield should use them first, instead of the other company.

    Overall, we've been very happy with Home Shield that's why we've used them for five years. We didn't have to worry with them that we just had one claim two weeks ago, and we won't get enough another one for another year. Even though we went two years without one, we had two of them within two weeks when our hot water heater and refrigerator broke down. It's just that they should get people who speak English to answer our calls. I could tell that the last girl was looking everything up in a book and reading it verbatim for us to start over, so she wouldn't change that. When I tried to explain, she didn't understand English.

    I had occurrences in the past where I had somebody come out that just didn't work out. Somebody else came out to do the same job and they worked out fine. The second person who came out said, "If you work with or talk to American Home Shield, they will direct it to our company again." That worked out. It just took me a while to get through that red tape.

    I ran into was a one-time thing where the person I was talking to was not familiar enough with things. I wanted to use a specific vendor because I used them before with American Home Shield. If you've had somebody come out from American Home Shield that you like and they're still used by American Home Shield, it would be nice to easily tell the person you're talking with. Other than that, American Home Shield does a great job and I'm happy with them. I used them for a claim for my ice maker. One of the blades had broken off so it wasn't pushing ice out anymore. Techs ordered that whole tray piece and replaced it.

    It was always hard to get ahold of Next Generation. I had to constantly call American Home Shield, and they contacted them on my behalf. AHS did their best, and there's no complaining with them at all. Also, on Next Generation's behalf, they had valid excuses, which I could give them the benefit of the doubt. The first one was they were shorthanded, someone got sick, and there was a death in the family. The second time was they were out of town. They returned my calls when they got back in town, but it was a few days.

    The third time was that when I called them to get the status, the lady told me that her boss was out of town and she had to wait for the boss to come back. Each time, she would apologize for the delay of the messages and delay returning of phone calls or text message, which I accepted. I trust the people that are servicing me and I wait very patiently because I know people have things going on with their lives for whatever the reason. I try to be understanding and patient about it. However, from day one, Next Generation should've been very adamant about calling their customer back, but there were no return calls.

    I understand having 24 to 72 hours. That's acceptable, but when it's weeks and having not heard anything, something is really wrong with the business. I can understand that there was a death in the family, but even with business, they need to have other employees to answer the calls in case if one is out for three to seven days for whatever is you're going upside down in their life. If you're gonna have a business, you must have a means to call back a customer and say, "Hey, I got your message. But give me about three days to call you back and I'll let you know."

    The initial issue was part of the house felt warmer than the other part of the house, so there were hot and cold spots. The furnace needed to be replaced. Later, they also found that my air duct had a hole. I was glad that they finally came out to fix the leak in the air duct and the rooms are a bit cooler than it was before, but not as the original. I noticed my master suite is a lot better than it was before, so I'm happy. However, I'm also currently feeling hot pockets of air in the hallway, which I never felt in the past. I asked my roommates if the rooms feels cooler, and one of them told me that their room feels comfortable with him, but my other roommate said he doesn't feel any difference. I also noticed a little slime, but I'm not worried about that.

    When the contractor came out, there were several things that I questioned about and their answer was just that they were on the phone with the office and the office was calling the home warranty. Their boss was always busy on the phone with the warranty company, so she was busy all the time and it was very difficult to get hold of them. When she contacts me, she's very apologetic and pursues her job as whatever she's authorized. When Next Generation told me, "Well, this is what Home Shield warranty are giving us. No matter what we recommended, they just give us whatever. And so, whatever that is is what you get. So, they already have all the specs from us, we gave them recommendations."

    I questioned her about it. I said, "Well, I know that when I spoke with their Home Shield warranty that they tell me a little bit differently. They tell me that they go by what your technician tells them. And according to your technician, he told me that he gave y'all several reports. And again, the same report that they recommend to get a five-ton unit." The technician said, "It doesn't matter what units you get. If you have a hole in the air duct, it doesn't do any good. And once we fix the air duct, then it does matter with the four-unit versus the 5 tons that we recommended that you did not get. American Home Shield gave you four tons."

    I told the office manager, "Did you let them know that I had a Trane brand?" It's the high end of the manufacturer air handlers and it does equivalent to a higher ton because it does a higher performance. In her text message, which is how she communicated with me, she said that, "We gave them the specs, we give them the information. So, they should know what you have." I respected the office manager's information and waited out to see the evaluation of my air to see if it's better. The system is doing an acceptable job, but I had had better. I remember when I used to have Trane, my house would be very cold. That's how you can tell when it's doing top performance.

    The key patch and clock of my range stopped working. I could not set my clock and I could not adjust the temperature of my oven. I called the home warranty and they put me in touch with a representative of a repair company. I had called on Friday and on Monday, service people were in my kitchen and trying to repair the stove. It was not repairable so they went ahead and ordered a part. By that Saturday, they were in the kitchen, replacing the part. The service people were very professional and clean. They worked the whole time they were here. They communicated with me well and they're 100%. I paid to American Home Shield my regular monthly amount of $45 and then $100 for the service.     Our house was built in 1987 and we have some older appliances. If things go wrong, it's nice to have American Home Shield. You can put in a claim on the internet or call them and tell them what's wrong. They hit you with a charge right off the bat then they set up a repair person company.     We called American Home Shield because we didn't have any water pressure. We had called the water company and they had said it didn't have anything to do with their end of the line. It was probably the regulator. We called AHS and when the fellow come out, he said, "Oh, yes. That's what it is." It was even leaking a little bit. He said that we didn't have any water pressure at all. So, he got that fixed really quick. He was a very nice young man. I had asked him about our faucets, but he said they just needed to be cleaned underneath where the water comes out. We had just bought the house, so he didn't fix those.

    He did order a part for our Jacuzzi. The button that makes the jets work won't work. You have to hold it down constantly to get it to work. So, there was something about the button that made the jets run and pump the water out. He said he could order the part. We haven't got that back or heard anything else yet but as far as interacting with our claims representative, she did very well. She sent someone out really quickly, so I was thrilled.

    Among the warranty companies I've had in the past, AHS is better than the rest. But there's a lot of back and forth and there is nitpicking when it's time to determine whether or not I'm able to get something covered. I'm still waiting a claim that should have been settled a couple of weeks ago and I still haven't heard from them. But AHS is okay. Sometimes the contractors are good and sometimes they're not great. If they're not, I usually have an opportunity to call back and say “This one isn't working,” and they reassign me.

    The ice maker of my refrigerator wasn't working. I did a claim and the rep was very helpful. I was told that I could go ahead and get somebody out there if I wanted to. American Home Shield ended up notifying the refrigerator guy and he did not call me. I then got an email from the home warranty company stating, “If you had not heard from him, you go ahead and call him." I did and I got a response that same day. American Home Shield was really looking out for me.

    I was very happy that the representative called me instead of me having to reach out to them, which I would have. But I would not have acted quite as quickly as I did and I would have been in misery without my ice. I even made several comments to my son, “I can't live like this. We’re gonna have to get some ice in the refrigerator in the freezer."

    I really liked the technician that came. Not having any experience with home warranties, I really expected I would get a second-rate vendor. I was really surprised that I did not. The technician said that he had pieced something together and that should work. If I had any more trouble, I was to call him. Everything is great now. This repair helped 100%. I like not having to buy a separate filter for my water and I like that I can get ice cubes. I'm really big on ice. If my neighbors or friends ask me who my home warranty is, I would tell them that it's American Home Shield and I would tell them the response I got from them.

    I had a hot water heater that failed on a Thanksgiving weekend and we were without hot water for that entire weekend. We weren't given any indication, even by the contractor, if this would get done during the week because of all the COVID shortages. There was no way for them to set expectations with me and I was not able to set expectations for my tenants. We felt like we were in limbo -- not really sure where this was all gonna go.

    Then, the contractor, Anguelov International, came in and they were saying that with any movement of the gas line, any movement of anything that was connected to the hot water heater, in having to put a new one in, would not be covered by American Home Shield. The tech quoted $240 for potentially having to move a lot of stuff and he never ended up having to but I got charged $240 regardless. AHS replaced the part but I had to pay for the service, which was not clear to me.

    The hot water heater was failing. We could get one and a half showers out of it and it wouldn't give us enough hot water. The contractor came out and made some adjustments on it. They told me to call them back if it continued not to heat properly, which I did. They did a few other things but we never could get it to heat right. Now, it's down to where we're getting lukewarm water out of it. You're lucky if one person can get a warm shower. The contractor said they were gonna replace it and they called AHS and got a work number. I've got the number where AHS said it would be replaced.

    I called AHS last week and asked them if they could give me an idea when it was gonna be replaced because I've got people coming in for Christmas. But I'm thinking about canceling that because we don't have any hot water. I was told by Melton's Plumbing because they called again, and it was authorized to be replaced, that I'd be hearing from somebody within two to three days. And that was 12 days ago. AHS told me they were working on it and they said that they show it authorized. But they say that you normally take 7 to 14 days to get everything moving. I'm unhappy with the length of time it has taken. It's like they don’t care.

One contractor came out and they were wonderful. Everybody was very polite and they did what they could to try to figure out what was wrong.     I wasn't happy with one of the companies that came out. We own a duplex and have renters. We requested service for an air conditioning unit and the company came out and said it was one thing and that it was on order. They came out again and said it was something else and they couldn't do it. There was a bee’s nest out there, so we got rid of that. It took two months to do this. In the meantime, our renters didn't have air, so we had to give them a break on their rent for two months, which was out of our pocket. American Home Shield should get a bigger variety of vendors.

The only thing that we ran into and we've kind of worked our way around and figured it out was, usually, when you submit something, it always seems like they always try to send out the bottom companies first. The way my wife is, as soon as we find out who’s coming, she's doing her research.

    Climate is coming out to replace our furnace. Everyone that we've gotten from Climate has been really good. There is an ongoing issue with our furnace and every time, you have to submit a thing and AHS always try and send somebody else and we call them and say, “Nope, we want Climate.” We don't even know people at Climate, but we know that every time they've been out here, they've done a good job.

    My garage door wouldn't open or close. The fellow that came was sloppy about his workmanship. He put everything on backward. I changed it all around and that worked. This summer, I had a claim on a pool pump. That took longer to get the parts but that was no fault of the technicians. American Home Shield has been very good. They are better than Select, which I had before. The only knock would be I was told the deductible would be $75 when I signed up but that turned out to be $100. Other than that, everything seems to be pretty good.

    Our dryer stopped tumbling. They were able to get it to tumble but they had to come back because the seal was off of it too. They told us not to use it for 24 hours because they had to glue it. The tech was really good. He explained and showed us what happened. The other claim we had was for our heater. But there wasn't anything wrong. We got in reusable air filters and they weren't thin enough for air to get through them and it was affecting the heating system. The tech let us know that. Since then, our heater’s been fine. AHS is really good because I only have to pay the deductible when they process my claim and see what's wrong and fix it. Or if they can't, they'll put in an order to get it fixed.

    We had an odd sound coming from the inducer fan. We're selling the house and we wanted to get it checked out before we sold it because the inspection turned it up. So, we called American Home Shield. The tech was prompt and nice. He said it showed signs of wear but he couldn't replace. We understood that AHS wouldn't cover it unless it was a failure so we had to take action. We called other heat pump companies and took a couple of estimates, and got it repaired because we needed to for the new owners.

    We plan to have AHS on our new place when we move in January so we’ll be moving our policy over. Their claims submission process has gotten better than it was 15 years ago. It’s been painless lately when we've needed them and the customer service has been great. This last time when I put my claim online, the guy called the same day and came out the next day. It was exceptional. In experiences prior, sometimes, there were a couple of days between when I put the claim in and when I get contacted. There’s a little bit of a time lag. But this last time, there was none at all.

    American Rooter was here several times. Initially, they came in and fixed the pipe that was leaking. It lasted four months, then it started again. Their next attempt was they replaced the toilet and did the seal, which lasted only a week. The seal had broken underneath the new toilet, and all of a sudden, it was leaking again down to the pipe. The last time American Rooter was here, they replaced the pipe for me because now it was at the point where they couldn't tighten anything any tighter without making a bigger problem. It would've busted the new toilet. American Rooter went above and beyond, and I was very pleased with them. Each time they came, they did a repair and it was done within a couple of hours.

    On the other hand, I had one of American Home Shield's service reps for the same issue with the toilet. They wouldn't allow the plumber that came the first time to remove the toilet to run the snake. Although, it says in the plumbers' manual that the toilet is a clean-out trap. The plumber had to leave because there was nothing else he could do. The rep told me on the phone I could physically remove the toilet myself, and I said that was rude. He told me I could Youtube it, which was a little ridiculous. It was very ignorant of him to tell me I could remove it myself, and then they would allow the plumber to finish the job.

    I understand, for the company's purposes, if the plumber would have removed the toilet and then broke the toilet, that would have been a bigger bill. But that was the only way to access the clean-out at that time. Since then, we've had a trap installed so we won't run into that again. Another thing is, I don't like that it's very difficult to speak to a person from American Home Shield when I need to when I'm calling something in. There's also not a lot of service providers in the area and I was hoping that they would have added more onto their list this year. These guys that come down travel 15 minutes to an hour, just to do the repair.

    When I turned the furnace on, it used to turn off. The way the mechanic explained it to me was there is a switch. When the heat exchanger tries to overwork, there is a system so that the switch turns off. For some reason, the switch was bad, so it was turning off itself. They tried to fix it but it didn't work. They had to buy a new switch and it's fine now. They were quick, cordial and explained everything well.

    This is the first time I've used American Home Shield in the three years I think I've had them. I've heard, "Don't get it. Don't do it. They're very hard to work with. They don't call you. They don't answer. It's gonna be a horrible experience." And I heard a lot of bad stuff, so I was leery when I called American Home Shield. First, they said I had to do it online. I said, "I'm not very computer literate." The rep said, "Okay. No problem." And she submitted my claim for me.

    My family room's electric was out. I called on a good Friday. They called me first thing Monday morning and they were out Tuesday. The tech came in, assessed the situation, repaired it, explained everything to me like I really knew. But he took the time to explain it, showed it to me, which was good.     The dishwasher was flooding and when I called AHS, they sent a tech to check it out. The tech took it apart and said it was not good any more. Then he called AHS and gave them all the information, but then somebody at American Home Shield called me back and wanted that same information that was already given. I felt that I shouldn't have to given it because I didn't measure this and that. But the tech was still standing there, so he relayed all the messages to me. Other than that, the tech was good, clean, and neat.

    For the delivery and installation of the replacement, it was wild right there because there was no communication. I got a lot of emails saying that it was going to be delivered and that was the end of that. On Monday, I got a call saying they got a dishwasher delivered but I was not even home because I didn't know it was coming. Then, the tech called and said he'd be there that day to install it. But I told him that there was no dishwasher there and there was no delivery. So, the next day, the tech called asked if the dishwasher was there and that he was on his way. But I told him that the delivery still hadn't came. The delivery finally showed up in the evening somewhere around 7:00 that day.

    But I had called Home Shield and talked to a rep. I told him that I got a dishwasher appliance that supposed to be delivered and I asked if they knew if the delivery was coming that day or had it been rescheduled. He told me to hold and transferred me to another rep. I talked to a gentleman and he wanted all the information. So, I gave him all my information, then he said to go to another department. A young lady came on the phone and she wanted all the information, too. I told her that I just gave it to the other gentleman. They don't transfer the information about the customer who's on the line and his problem. That's terrible to me. Everything was about COVID, so everybody was working from home or where they're working from, and there was no communication path in the communication.

    People should also make sure to ask AHS what they're not going to cover if they want to sign up because everything will look good. But then when you get down to it, some things are just not covered. But other than that, everything else was great with AHS. Once I got the delivery and the installation claim, the guy who came out was quick. He straightened up and explained everything. And the dishwasher's like the one I had. When everything was hooked up, there were no leaks and he was in and out in no time.

    It's been terrible with American Home Shield. Over the summer, I got them ‘cause my daughter has them. My refrigerator that's only two years old broke down at the end of August. I called American Home Shield and a repairman came out here. He diagnosed that the compressor wasn’t working. He referred me to Appliance Guard Pro. They scheduled me to come see it. I took time off work but they never showed up. I took another day off because I needed my refrigerator fixed. On October 7th, they fixed it, or so I thought. I asked the tech if there was a warranty on the service and I was told I had 90 days. But my refrigerator never got cold. It wouldn't make ice and made a lot of noise. I kept calling Appliance Guard Pro but couldn't get in touch with them. I called American Home Shield five or six times but couldn’t get through. They had an hour wait or they'd say they'd call me back but they never did.

    On November 26th, I called at 5 o'clock in the morning. I spoke to someone, explained my situation and they said they were gonna get in touch with Appliance Guard Pro. Appliance Guard Pro didn’t get in touch with me so Tuesday morning, I called and spoke to a girl named Angela at 5 o’clock in the morning again. I explained to her what happened and she said, "I see your message but they never responded." I told her I was tired of the situation and she said they were going to send a new company out. She also told me there was still a warranty on the service and I was not getting charged the $100.

    Somebody came out here and when he showed up, he said it was a compressor issue and he couldn't do anything because he was just diagnosing it. Appliance Guard Pro should be fixing it, not a new company. Then I got an email from American Home Shield telling me that this part wasn’t fixable, that it was under warranty with the other company. I called them and spoke to Edwin on Thursday or Friday of that same week. I told him the same situation again, what happened under the warranty, and the whole thing with Angela. He told me they were gonna get Appliance Guard Pro because the service is under warranty.

    Finally, Appliance Guard Pro contacted me Thursday or Friday. A repairman came here on Monday and said, “I'm gonna email this to my boss, and they're gonna send somebody out here. You have to wait a little bit ‘cause of the freon.” I told him that was fine, as long as they knew what it was. I just needed the refrigerator fixed as soon as possible. I waited till Thursday of that week. Then I asked when were they coming out to fix my refrigerator. American Home Shield said they haven't gotten the repairman's report yet though the repairman said he was gonna send it to American Home Shield right away. They told me they'd call me back but they never did. On Friday, I called them and asked them again what was going on. They said they haven't gotten the report yet. On Tuesday, I called them again. The rep said, “We had a glitch in the system. The report didn't go through so they have to go back out there again to diagnose it."

    On Monday or Tuesday, I noticed there were 2 $100 charges to my credit card. I've been calling American Home Shield to dispute this. I spoke to Jeff and he told me I was getting a reimbursement. But I'm canceling American Home Shield because of this company that they use, Appliance Guard Pro. I don't know why American Home Shield deals with them because everybody is complaining for the same issue that I'm having. I am also disputing the $200 because that's against the law. I never agreed to it and the reps both told me I was not getting charged.

    The technician that came out was wonderful. The issue was when we switched the unit from AC over to heat, the heater would kick on and work fine but would never kick off. The technician looked at the wiring on it, and it was wired improperly. As soon as he fixed that, the issue was fixed.

    The only thing that causes a headache is the language barrier from the people that you talk to when you call to make a claim. We've had a plumbing issue as well since we've moved in. There has been a disconnect of some sort between who I contact as a homeowner and who the service company contracts. It's like the two departments don't speak to one another. I would call and get different information then the plumber would call and there was nothing documented. Also, you don't pick who your service provider is going to be. It's what American Home Shield assigns to you. I had no choice for the first plumbing company that was assigned to me. When I called to set up the appointment, the tech was insanely rude. That's not American Home Shield’s problem but we weren't able to use him because he didn't have time for us.

    Recently, the unit was turning off and on. It was just a loose wire and the technician addressed it perfectly. I just wish American Home Shield would do something more with the maintenance side. I had a dryer issue. It works, but it takes about three or four times to get a load dry, and they don't consider that to be covered, even though my dryer is covered. They consider that to be a maintenance issue instead of just replacing the heating coil. They could change some of those looks on what should be considered maintenance and what is still covered under the contract.

    Airboss came out to work on my dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, and stovetop. The dishwasher is not cleaning completely and the tech said that the sprayer was not spraying out. It was going in one spot, so he had to take the top and the bottom roller that sprays the water. The stovetop, when it came on, it cooked only on high even if you turned it down or simmer or medium.

    To get the service, I called American Home Shield on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. Then, I had got an email from them that another company was coming out. I was waiting for that company to come out and I called them that 5:00, but they were closed. I then called them that Monday but they said that they had been swapped to another company. So, I had to call Home Shield to find out what company they swapped it to. And Airboss thought that the other company couldn't do something and that's why they got the work. But I told them that the other company never came out. It was given to them but then it was taken away from them.

    The service of Airboss was good. The microwave started coming on the day before the tech came out and when he came out, it was turning on with the door closed. So, he couldn't figure out what was going on. Now, it’s doing the same where it’s not coming on. But I was told that he ordered the parts for the other thing and if the microwave was still acting up, he would check it again. Other than that, when I was renewing my contract, I called out for my standalone freezer and the guy told me that American Home Shield doesn't cover standalone freezers. Despite that, the warranty is a good investment. When my daughter bought her house, I had her sign up for American Home Shield as well.

    The online portal and the way that you engage with American Home Shield’s team and open requests is both streamlined and very easy to use. We had two service orders and the first one didn't go so well. A1 Appliance Repair came out and diagnosed the problem, and ordered the part. It was not necessarily their fault, but the part was backordered. It took a long time. Then, the icemaker magically started working for a short period so we cancelled that order. About a month later, it stopped working again so I put in another service order through American Home Shield. A1 again was dispatched and they handled it brilliantly. They got the part within a week and they came, swapped it out and the icemaker has been working well ever since.

    Way back in the past, we had a problem with an air conditioning unit on our prior property. It was a little bit tricky in that certain components of the AC were not covered. So, people should read the fine print on the package that they're getting to make sure they understand exactly what is covered on those larger appliances like an air conditioning unit. But I always recommend American Home Shield. They’ve been good to us.

    The service of AHS is okay. But they don't cover too much. They just cover basic things. I asked for the garage and they said I did not have it. Before we did it, they explained to me, "You have to buy the garage, you have to buy a different kind of package." That's one of my concerns. They're supposed to let us know before. But the contractors have been good. With my recent plumbing issue, the guy came and fixed it. I really appreciated it. He also came within two days. I also like that AHS is covering plumbing and they covered an issue on my toilet. They charged me 75, and then the techs came and fixed it. AHS is beneficial because I don't need to call anybody. I need to just call them and they know who to direct.

    In general, our experience has been pretty good. It has saved us some out of pocket. We've had our disposal replaced. We've had blockages like in the kitchen sink that somebody fixed. We've also had an issue with the air conditioner compressor that ended up getting replaced. I"m a fan of having a service contract on the home.

    There was repairman who came out to work on my hot tub. He took a piece off my spa and never came back. I called and was trying to get American Home Shield to understand the situation. They pretty much did, but there was no follow-up on it. It got to be to a point where nothing was ever done about that. There was another repairman that came out to work on our refrigerator and he broke the icemaker. When he broke the icemaker, he said that American Home Shield was gonna cover the part that he broke in order to repair it. But he never did anything about it. I contacted American Home Shield twice to let them know that their repairperson said that he needed to report it to them and that he was going to be coming back out to repair it. That did not result in the person coming out.

    I'm not satisfied with the service at all. When you look at a home warranty company, you'd expect that there would be follow-up. I'm disappointed that there was no follow-up by American Home Shield. My icemaker and my spa are still without service and American Home Shield said that they don't cover the part that the repairperson broke. They said it's my responsibility to fix it.

    American Home Shield does a great job. They are easy to reach by phone or on the internet. I call them, they send somebody. For the last few years, it has been the same man that has fixed the heating, Gary, and his company called like they said they would. Everything is like they said they would do. We had a little thing this summer when I had something wrong with the pool pump. It had to do with getting someone to service it close to our area, which is hard. And with COVID, that took a little while, but it worked out fine. I'm very satisfied.

    A lot of the other companies were very aggressive in their marketing and sales while American Home Shield was very professional. I used them a few times and they are good. I've had them for three years in New Jersey and there was only one time when they were slow in responding to a request. And that was because it was something about my air conditioning. It was during the middle of a heatwave when everybody and their grandmother was calling for air conditioning service. Finally, I had worked out the problem myself, called AHS and cancelled the appointment.

    We moved into a new house and I've had two claims since I've been here. One was, AHS offered a heating service to get our heating system ready for winter. It was a great idea. Because we just moved into the house and I didn't know the heating system. That job went very well. A very knowledgeable person was sent out to the job, answered all my questions, showed me exactly what I needed to know, and tuned up my system. The other one was the garage door. And the performance by the person who was sent to my home was also excellent.

    I called the number in the little package of information that I got when we bought the insurance policy from American Home Shield. They asked me what problem I had and I said that I got a running toilet. The rep scheduled the plumber to come out and then, I got text messages saying that the repair was scheduled for this date and time. The plumber who was gonna come out originally in the morning had a family emergency so another plumber had to be sent out. So, they let me know it’s gonna be rescheduled for later in the day. They kept me posted on when the guy would be here. The guy from the plumbing company was a very polite and cordial young man. When he came in, he put on little booties over his boots so he wouldn't be tracking stuff to the house. I showed him what the problem was and he fixed that initial problem. Then, we noticed that the tank was filling slow so, he fixed that problem as well. He was great. I had a good experience with him.

    The deductibles went up high, but I was pleased with American Home Shield. In addition to plumbing, I got the electronic package also through American Home Shield. So, the plan covers the entire house. One tech was here doing the television. It went out. When we called in the claim, AHS took care of that. The toilet was working good, and the shower was too until Thanksgiving. I had company over a lot and that was when everything started backing up. The guy said that he couldn't undo the stoppage in one of the restrooms, but the other one was working. He told me that AHS called back to say they would not cover it because it was a pipe that may have broken. I haven't heard anything back from AHS about this. I've heard only from the plumbing company that they want to charge another $500 to run a camera down the line and see if there was a crack in it and exactly where the pipe burst.

    I had someone else come in for the toilet. They removed the toilet, went down and snaked the line, but it was fine. They didn't see where there was a crack in the line. I have been dealing with AHS for a long time but this is the first thing that I have ever had a promise of when I was told that my claim wouldn't be covered. Because I've heard people say that, "Well, if you have a problem with it, they’re not gonna pay for plumbing."

    I used Mr. Rooter Plumbing before and that's part of the reason I was happy to have them again. Lee was very cordial. He identified the problem, used his appropriate tools, took care of the problem and went on his way. The claim process with American Home Shield, most of the time, works very smoothly. I've done it online, and that generally works fine. I have occasionally had to call their human beings and troubleshoot something about a claim that either a serviceman didn't contact me for, or there was a need for a recall. It's always worked very smoothly.

    What has kept me with American Home Shield isn't their rates, but rather the overall business organization of that company and its reinsurers. The only drawback with them is they are a business and their objective is to make a return on investment. I've been using American Home Shield for a long time and from time to time, I've been a little bit aggravated when they choose to repair something that probably should be replaced or they won't cover a plumbing problem because the pipe problem moved outside of the limits of the house.

    Something seemed to be missing from my machine that may have fallen out so the machine wasn't efficiently washing clothes. A tech came and addressed that on his first visit. He had to put the parts order in when he first came out then came back out and got them installed really quickly. He handled it pretty efficiently. One of the biggest benefits of American Home Shield's claim process is the ease of use. I have a few locations of coffee shops and with American Home Shield, I do not have to worry so much about scheduling home repair stuff. I just go online and say I have a problem with something. They then handle who comes out.

    There was one appliance I had a while back where there wasn't as much support. But it was also a worn-out unit. That aside, I haven't really had any issues like that. Looking at the cost basis, the home warranty pays for itself quickly in a lot of ways. There is also the assurance that you have a contact for any little issue that arises.

    We did a claim Sunday morning for a hot water heater that developed a massive leak. American Home Shield was able to send someone out at least Monday and, after a couple of calls back and forth, they were able to get a new water heater purchased and installed by Tuesday. The water heater is working really well. The claims process was easy enough. The vendor contractor was assigned pretty quickly, so I was able to talk to them directly and start working with them. So that worked out well.

    There were a couple of calls I had to go back and forth with AHS because it was an urgent claim from me and my wife's perspective. Originally, they wanted to buy the water heater themselves from whoever they buy appliances from, and then they were gonna ship it out to town for the local guy to install, and that was gonna take 7 to 10 days. But after a couple of calls, we were able to get them to buy it online locally at Lowe's so the contractor could go pick it up on Tuesday, which ended up happening. It was a little inconvenient to have to call a couple of times to convince AHS to speed it up a little bit. But ultimately, it worked out well. The tech was on time. He called me 20 minutes before he was headed over with the water tank. It took them about three hours to do the job and it was all good to go.

    We replaced our unit. We installed it ourselves, and we had it on an emergency setting. It was working for a few weeks, and then we went on vacation and came back, and the heat wasn't working. It was just installed incorrectly. The tech who came told us how it should be installed. He changed the wires, and it worked. The claim process of American Home Shield was good, but it probably would have been a little more helpful if I could talk to somebody over the phone. I had to do it online, and then I had to call to make some changes. But I couldn't call, so I had to cancel. It would have been helpful if I could get them online.

    I had a problem with my AC last year. A coil needed to be replaced and it was $4,000. I had to pay so much for that, and I thought that American Home Shield would cover more of that cost. In addition to that, my monthly fee went up. I was not told that. Also, for that $100 you have to pay, sometimes they can't even fix the problem. Then you have to get them to come out again for a second $100. When my heat went out, I called American Home Shield and paid $100. The guy who came was very professional. He told me what was wrong with the unit. However, Lennox does not have my part. Everything's on back order. He couldn't fix it because the part is not in so we're without heat right now. He gave me an alternative so I could buy a whole new unit but why would I want to do that when I have a warranty? He told me it would be $2,000, $3,000 and I told him I was not doing that because American Home Shield covers the part that I need.

    When you call American Home Shield, sometimes they're gonna tell you all the good stuff, but they're not going to tell you the limitations. The good thing about them is when you make a service call, their contractor is sent out within a couple of days. But when your appliances can't be fixed and you have to pay another $100 for their contractor to come out again then pay $2,000 or $3,000, that's a lot of money. I'm not too happy about American Home Shield. They're not that bad, but they could be better.

    The garage door would not go up at the control panel. The up and down limit, for some reason, got out of adjustment. The claim on it with American Home Shield went well. The tech came and did some adjustments and it's working fine now. I'm disappointed in the refrigerator claim though. I've had two calls and two service people, R&R Refrigeration, that came out two different times over four months. The ice maker on the door quit working. He came and he put a new ice maker in. It worked for about two months. I called and they said, "Well, we're only going to guarantee it for 30 days." American Home Shield did. So, I paid another $75 deductible and they came back out and put another ice maker in. It worked about the same period of time and it quit working.

    Then I called the third time. This is when it kind of fell all apart because after that I have not heard from anybody referring to what we're going to do with the refrigerator. The technician says it's in the design of the refrigerator, as far as the ice maker and he says it's a universal problem with that ice maker, with that model of refrigerator, and I'm not going to keep spending $75 on an ice maker that's not going to work but maybe a couple of months. So, I don't know where we are with the ice maker on the refrigerator, except that it's really not necessary in the functioning of the refrigerator.

    Three of our appliances were not working so we called American Home Shield and asked if we could get someone to come out and take a look at them. It was pretty easy for a technician to come out. His name was Terry. He called, set a date, and came on the date. He was personable, well-mannered, and professional. He was a reasonable guy and he knew what he was doing.

    Our side-by-side refrigerator would freeze a little bit then it would stop. Terry said it needed a part but he couldn't get that. Our dishwasher also had a couple of things going on. Water would build in it over a period of time. When it hadn't been on, water would back up in it. It also needed a part. Terry got that part, came back out, and put it on but that did not solve the issue. We had to call Terry because the second time we were waiting for him to call us, he didn't. He apologized and scheduled to come right out. Another appliance we had an issue with was the microwave. It has a humming sound and it has something to do with the switch. Terry couldn't get a part for that as well.

    At this point, the refrigerator has been replaced and a new microwave has been ordered. We received the check for the refrigerator and the microwave. But we're having issues and troubles with the dishwasher. The thing is the amount that American Home Shiels is allowing us for a dishwasher is not worth it. This dishwasher we have was a built-in one so we're trying to get another built-in. They cost a lot more now than the allowance Home Shield has given us for a dishwasher.

    We are now very clear on American Home Shield's replacement process. You don't get apples for apples. We had a counter-depth, panel-ready refrigerator that had an ice maker. What American Home Shield gave us was a refrigerator with an ice maker. But they were not gonna give us the same customized things that we had. We couldn't get a panel-ready one. That was a surprise. Now that we know, we can make an educated decision about what we are going to get then we can decide. Overall, we're happy. The experience was good but it could have been better. We still intend to negotiate with our dishwashers to see if we can get a little more funding on that.

    My kitchen sink was backing up and water wasn't draining out. AHS sent me the name of the company and the phone number. That company has been here before so I was familiar with them already.     I called American Home Shield about my dishwasher needing to be fixed. Through many calls and a dozen visits by various American Home Shield representatives or various subcontractors, the problem was not resolved until November. The issue was the ineptitude of the people installing the product. The product that they brought out was bad. They didn't know what the problem was. They couldn't assess it even though I told them what it was. It was absolute lackluster. I've used AHS multiple times, and the use of website is not great. Communication isn't great.     American Home Shield has been responsive. When the refrigerator and stove went out, I called them. They sent someone out, but someone else came out. They needed to do a second opinion, which was fine. It was fast. The technician came in and knew what it was he was doing. I was pleased about that. He said they were gonna order a part for my stove because it needed a sensor. But the refrigerator has to be replaced and I've been without a refrigerator for a couple of weeks now. American Home Shield sent me an email yesterday so I'm going to go through that process to now get a new refrigerator. I can get my refrigerator through Lowe's and take advantage of the different discounts that they have.

    I was very pleased because of their variety of refrigerators. There are some, based on the replacement value, that I can select and not have to pay anything, or there are some, depending on the cost, that I may have to pay. They gave me all of the details. If I select some that were above what the replacement value they put on my refrigerator, then they've already given me the amount that I will have to pay. American Home Shield's customer service reps could either be responsive or have a bit more information though. When I called the second time, I didn't seem to get the kind of response that I was looking for. But I received an email and they're really good about communicating via email.

    I had several dispatches on this GE Monogram refrigerator. There was a noise being made two or three months ago and a GE Monogram guy who had serviced us in the past came out and he had ordered the part. It turned out that the refrigerator was losing temperature. My caretaker moved everything to another refrigerator so that the food wouldn’t ruin because I was not in the house for a month or two. The guy then replaced the part and it turned out to be the freezer fan. He ordered that part and that part was put in. Then the icemaker stopped working. Because I wasn't there, we didn't test to see if that involved the icemaker or not. We then waited four weeks. Another company was dispatched and on the morning that the repairman arrived, the icemaker started working without doing anything. He said to call him back if anything happens.

    I've been working with American Home Shield for a number of years and they have gotten better. Years ago, it was much worse. This time around, there were some glitches because the first repair company said that they couldn't service it so it was cancelled. We couldn't get someone with an answer. It was five days of not getting a repairman in or having adequate response. We kept calling American Home Shield. But this is the first time that there's been that bump in the road in a long time. I also had put in a claim for my HVAC, and they were not timely so I called a man who services it.

    I had a water leak somewhere. My water bill quadrupled. I got a notice from my water provider that they detected a leak so I contacted American Home Shield to send a plumber out to locate it. They sent Brick Street, and I had a running toilet and my hot water heater was also leaking. So, I fixed the running toilet and AHS replaced my hot water heater. I'm just waiting on my next bill to see if it made a difference with my water consumption. But I was satisfied with my service. I have only had an issue one time, but that was because the particular company had to keep coming out to fix something that they should have fixed before. But that was the company, not American Home Shield. But they made it as easy as possible, considering the situation.

    Make sure that you have the coverages that you need. Read what is covered and not. That will help you going forward, because I've had a couple of items that I thought would have been covered but they were not because they were on the outside of the home versus on the inside. Also, AHS has gone drastically up on the price over the last couple of years. But the service they provide is excellent.

    I called American Home Shield to see if I could get the faucet and the bathtub fixed. They were running really high. American Home Shield sent me over Budget and they came out. They looked at it and said they'd fix it. The guy said he'd be back. So he came back and then he took the panel off of the wall. Then he said he had to get an estimate to see how much it will cost. Then it cost extra to have American Shield send somebody back out. But I had to pay that price. I didn't like the back and forth part of it. I also didn't like that they left the job open.

    I had to purchase a faucet from American Shield at that time. When they put that faucet on, it was too long. So the guy said he had to call American Shield to see if somebody else could come out and fix it. They didn’t have a guy to fix it and the same guy who made the mess didn’t come back. So I still gotta pay for a hole in my wall where the panel is not up. The pipe was cut and I don't have a faucet on at this moment. So, I had to go find somebody else and I didn't wanna really deal with American Home Shield.

    I was baking and I noticed that at some point in my baking, the oven was not as hot as it normally would. So, when I put my first cake in, everything was fine, came out perfect. I noticed that the next several cakes that I tried to bake all came out round. There was like a bubble. And I was baking pound cakes. The gentleman tested the oven and said that the oven cycled the way that it was supposed to. There was an eye on the stove that was not lighting up the full flame. He corrected that. But I was more so concerned with the box itself. And since he couldn't duplicate the problem, he couldn't make any repairs than that.

    I asked him questions about air flow and he assured me everything was okay. He talked about the type of oven I have, which was like his, for the exception that his is electric. He assured me that I had a very good oven. He taught me something about the insulation, how even at 350 degrees or 325, whatever he had it on, that the door outside was cool. I asked him if the burners at the bottom were okay and could there be a possibility of something being clogged. He told me the way the oven was constructed that there should be some sort of shield. He mentioned that whatever device is causing the oven to heat up should be protected from anything getting on it to gum it up. So, it was a pleasant experience. The guy was very nice and seemed to be very knowledgeable. He helped me understand a bit about the product I'm using, which I was grateful for.

    If American Home Shield's contractors recognized something was wrong, they fixed it. There was only one incident where I had to get somebody to come out multiple times on a product and that was due to my microwave. My wife happened to be home that day. And since then, that was the only product that I've had somebody come out, they supposedly fixed it. For whatever reason, it failed again. After that third time, I haven't had a problem with my microwave since. For my garbage disposal, the agent that I talked to on the phone explained to me that if the product cannot be repaired, it will be replaced. This would have been my fourth call on my garbage disposal and the gentleman that came out determined that it could not be repaired, AHS replaced it.

    American Home Shield is an organization that should be avoided at all costs. Investing money with American Home Shield establishes a business relationship with a company that has proved to breach its own agreement. If and when you need to utilize the service, the AHS people you will be dealing directly with are representatives who work out of the country and speak very poor English. In addition, they lack integrity and make no effort uphold high standards. The fine print of your agreement with AHS implies a guarantee that AHS will profit and no guarantee that you, the homeowner, will benefit.

    Our personal experience with American Home Shield included being lied to, receiving NO help from any professional service providers as promised, and our having to seek counsel to obtain reimbursement. The only "shield" that was evident was the one AHS held up to hide from their promised responsibilities. Our very strong advice is to not consider American Home Shield for your home needs.

    In my recent claim, the furnace went out. The inside temperature of my house got down to 57 degrees. I called American Home Shield on a Friday and they told me that someone would be in touch with me from the heat and air place on Monday. When the guy came out and investigated everything, he said that it would cost me approximately $1,500. I was a little upset. This was not my first incident with American Home Shield about my air conditioner. It went out this summer and they came and fixed it and I didn't pay anything.

    I called American Home Shield and they knew exactly what item to go to in the contract that I would be asked to pay for something. It ended up costing me not only over two weeks without heat but also almost $2,000. That was really unacceptable to me for it to take that long. I have health issues and I'm moving a little slow with things so we went out and bought a couple of heaters to heat in the living room and in the bedroom. The guy that came and put it in told me that I was only paying one-third of what it would really cost and that made me feel a little better.

    It was just that I was unaware. I've been with American Home Shield for about five years and I've never had to pay anything before. If I did not have the money, I would have been in trouble. I'm 67 years old and I'm not working. My husband and I are both elderly. I need to find out what other policies they got so that I wouldn't be caught like this again. I would appreciate it if my contract was mailed to me instead of sending it on the internet so I could sit down and read it for myself and I would have been better prepared for that. I'm not that great on a computer in my age limit.

    American Home Shield also needs to be quicker on the response. I was in a hotel for a few days in summer and that was over $500 I had to spend for and be cool because of the air and motor that went out that time. It took about four days to get it fixed because the guy couldn't do it. He brought his supervisor out and they fiddled around with it and they were sitting up trying to put in a motor that wasn't equipped for my unit. When they finally put in the correct one, it worked perfectly. My refrigeration unit downstairs also went out and it also took them a few days. Being that I've got them, I should have an upper hand. Nonetheless, they did what they were supposed to do. It's worth it to have this policy. I have recommended them to a lot of my church members.

    American Team came and did a tune-up on the HVAC system and they were excellent. The plumber guy's customer service could just be a little bit better. He asked for a time that I'd be home. He didn't let me look at my calendar and I didn't like that. When he got in the house, he was just rushing through everything. Now, I've been waiting for a little over a month to repair my refrigerator. American Home Shield took the money out for the deductible, and we did a video call, but no one ever came to service it. It is still making this knocking noise in the back. The tech said that he had to order a piece, but it's been over a month.     Sometimes, 24 to 48 hours is a little bit of a stretch for everything. When I call to ask a question, their response is 24 to 48 hours even to answer a question sometimes. But outside of that, the experience has been okay. Recently, there was water build-up in the bottom of our freezer. My wife called American Home Shield and they sent out Good Guys. This time we had a very good tech. He knew his product. He knew how to fix it. There was another issue that he was going to put in for, and we have yet to be able to hear back from American Home Shield as to whether that was done. I can't say so much for the last one that we had from the same company to come and fix a garbage disposal that we never got fixed. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It is frustrating but we just deal with it. Overall, I suggest to anybody to always get a home warranty.

    The heating unit would kick on for a minute and then the temperature would drop all the way down to 62 at night when it was set on 72. The tech said knew what it was and he explained everything. He said it was an easy fix and he fixed it. He was very knowledgeable. With American Home Shield, I cannot complain. The only thing I dislike is how long it takes sometimes to schedule something. They tell you to go online and fill out the request, and you do. It acknowledges the requests. Then it takes them a little while to get a provider to contact you. Also, sometimes, there's a language barrier that I can't understand when speaking with the reps.

    When looking at warranties for the first time make sure that things that you think are covered are covered. If not and you end up spending your money, it would be quite disappointing. Over the years, we haven't had any trouble with American Home Shield. Every time we call, the matter is solved just like in the case five years ago when we had some issues with our air conditioner. We started off at $50 claims with American Home Shield and now, it's $75. We’re looking at almost 20 years. Something that's $15 20 years ago isn't gonna be $15 now. But it’s all good.

    Once we submit a claim, it would be within a matter of days when we see a contractor. It’s usually not a long wait. We did a claim when our oven went out. A new one was delivered but my wife didn't know about that so the unit sat for a few days. She made a call in and was told that it should have been delivered. She checked and it was. But other than that, everything else was great.

    I like the convenience of having American Home Shield. I did a claim when I could not figure out why my front water hose spout wouldn't work. The guy that came was friendly. He had to figure out where the valve that actually turns it on was. He had to remove some drywall and come to find out that whoever patched it up had patched up that valve as well. Everything's working okay. It actually didn't need to be repaired. It just needed to be found.

    In the past, AHS has not been the greatest warranty company. When I moved to my new home, I thought we will go with someone else. Right now, I’m on a second contract with them for another year. But in January, I probably would not be renewing. It's just I don't feel like the technicians that they send out are the best and a lot of times I feel like they aren't looking out for the customer. They're more so looking out for their contractors and their company.

    American Home Shield’s service works great. We’re in an area that has a lot of different contractors and I could choose from them. But I have another home in Louisiana and it appears that the contractors are limited. One contractor that they assigned to me, Total Air Care was horrible. They came to my home four to five times. Everything was insane. They lied a couple of times about a part being in a truck and they also said the truck broke down. It was several things that were really bad with them. They never called ahead to say they were on their way and they showed up three hours after the time period. When I told them I was not home and asked them to wait, they wouldn't.

    In the end, I got another contractor, Tri's AC and Heating. They said Total Air Care had a reputation of being very bad. The Tri’s AC and Heating guy solved the issue in two to five minutes. American Home Shield has been a good value. I have used it over the years and I’m confident it has saved me some money on some of the repairs. If they’re in a well-populated area, get the home warranty. But if you're in a smaller town, I’m not sure if it will be worth it given all the headaches I had with my house and with them.

    A-US Air Conditioning of Texas were great but last time they came out, they had left their valves on my AC unit. I was having a Halloween party and I didn't want the kids to get a hold of them. I tried to call and tell them but the guy didn't return my call, so I just left them on there. When I let them off, all my Freon came out. So then I filed another claim and I had to pay $75. Then they told me it was going to be $100 a gallon. So it was going to be $555. I was able to pull up the receipt and it happened to be the same company, so he didn't charge me for the Freon.

    I have another claim on my freezer and I've been waiting for about four weeks now. The tech told me that it was cheaper to replace the freezer than it was to buy this part and he never brought the part back. I called AHS back a few weeks ago and they said that the company has it on order. I wish they would have contacted me back and given me some kind of time frame. This was before Thanksgiving and they came out November 11th. This company has been out before and they replaced the same thing they said during this time. Other than that, I've never had any reason to complain about AHS.

    I had a plumbing problem. My water was backing up in the back. This happened on a Thursday, but I couldn't get anybody till the following Tuesday. AHS gave a number to call to make the appointment with the contractor. When I called, they never answered their phone. So I had to wait. They didn't call me till Tuesday. But overall, when the guy came out, he really did a good job. What I needed was not covered by AHS. So I had to pay an extra 500. I like the claims process so far.     I just had my heater fixed a couple months ago and it quit working again. The contractor repaired it the day they came out.     When I submitted a claim with AHS, it was exceptionally good. Our garbage disposal ceased functioning. It sounded like the sink was going to explode. They came and they changed out garbage disposal and found out that bearings were going bad. The techs were the best I had. They were very polite, efficient, came to do their job, had to run to the store a couple of times to get some extra pieces and parts, and then they were gone. They were wonderful. AHS is also pleasant, easy to deal with and very efficient. It's a good deal and it's well worth the investment.

    The service has its ups and downs, but I've been pleased with the overall result. We had a toilet that was leaking and that was fixed. It was done very fast and efficiently. The claims process went great. I went online and didn't have to worry about talking to somebody over the phone that I couldn't understand. We had a hot water heater replaced by the same company that came out for the toilet. They diagnosed the problems, and when they left, I never heard again from them or AHS. When I called up AHS, they said the contractor got the new hot water heater on order. But nobody told us that. A week later, the contractor called and said, "We got your hot water heater.     We had an issue with the washer. It's a front-loading washer and the seal that goes on the washer was leaking. The contractor said the seal needs to be replaced and it took them six to eight weeks to get the part to the person who would come and install it. When it came through, it took him another week to install. All in all, it was a pretty long time to go without a washer. I had asked them if I could just buy a new washer and if they could pay what it would cost to replace that and I would pay the difference. I thought that would be fair but I didn't get any answer on that. Luckily, we were able to work through it -- going to the local laundromat and then drying things at home, although it was inconvenient. They got the work done but it wasn't what I expected.

    I had a leak in the kitchen faucet. I tried doing a claim with American Home Shield through the internet but that didn't work. They say that you can open a claim online but you really can't. I have never been able to do that and I always have to call. When I first called, I had to wait and I gave my callback number. It didn’t seem like they called me back so I called a second time and I was able to get through. That time, they were able to take the claim.

    American Home Shield immediately emailed me the company that was supposed to do the service. I was expecting them to come in the next day. But that company did not respond back to me so I called and was informed that the company wouldn't be able to come and do the service until two days later. There was little time for the service company to do the service.

    They came out and they thought it was just an issue where the washer and the hose needed to be installed. They ran the water in the sink, saw there was no leak then they left. But a few hours later, we saw that the faucet was leaking again. I called American Home Shield to reopen my claim saying that the issue that was reported was still happening. They informed me that they will send the same company back out to repair it again. The repair people didn't have the proper faucet so they had to come back a third time to put that in. At that time, it seemed to be working fine. It took at least a week and a half to finally get everything done because every time I made an appointment with the service company, it was two days later.

    We had a plumbing issue recently and Morden Plumbing came out first and replaced three toilets. After they left, one of the toilets kept running so they came back. The guy did some type of adjustment. But the problem still persisted. I called the company back and they wouldn't come back so I called American Home Shield and I told them they would have to send someone else out. Whitney Plumbing came out and their tech showed me what was wrong and what he did. He said it was a simple fix and that my toilets were Kohler's and those were good ones. The parts that Morden put in were midgrade and they should have used Kohler parts. It's been working fine ever since.

    I'm working with AHS on my water heater right now and it wasn’t an issue, but with this COVID going on, I asked the guy that came if he had a mask or if he had the vaccine, and he said no. I also asked where his shoe covers were and he had to go back to the truck to get that. I called the people at the office and told them that I'm 75 years old and the guy they sent out hasn't been vaccinated and didn't have a mask. The lady said that they would make sure he has a mask when he comes back. I told her that I want to let them know because I was gonna call American Home Shield and see if they could change. But AHS already got this company out to do it.

    Then this company got to get approval for the water heater because I had a replacement. When I called AHS, they said that it's been approved and it's gonna be $1,060 for the modification that the plumbing company charged and I didn't know that the company gives that price. I told them to hold off on the water heater because I called another company who was going to put a 50-gallon tank for $400 more. Then AHS called me back and they negotiated the price and came down and so we got the issue straightened out. Then I liked that when I canceled the call, didn’t need it, the refunds came right back from AHS.

    American Home Shield's claims process has become more difficult over the years. On the most recent visit we had, it was a very terrible job. We had a problem about a year or two into having the brand new dishwasher and the guy came to fix it, but when he fixed it, he didn't screw the screws in tight enough. And because he didn't screw the screws in tight enough, we had another problem come about about a month or so ago. To make it even worse, they asked us to take a picture of the dishwasher and said we needed a part. Then we had to wait for a part and this was through Thanksgiving week where my wife had to wash dishes for 20 people, only to find that when they ordered the part, the guy from the same company said that we didn't need a part and that the screws needed to be screwed in. And I don't even know if I was charged. I have to make sure that I'm not charged for that service call from American Home Shield because it was unnecessary.

    I also had a plumber that wasn't great a few years ago. AHS kept sending the same plumber and he was a bad plumber. Then they flipped it to a different plumber, so they understood. But they keep raising the prices every year. I understand that businesses is business, but they've gone up considerably. Other than that, over the last two decades, American Home Shield has done a great job for me and I'm a loyal customer.

    American Home Shield is an awesome company. I appreciate them. I feel safe with them. But the tech that came out for the water heater and furnace pissed me off for three weeks. He put me out of the list, and supposed to make a special order. I spoke to the owner of the company and he told me a lot of excuse at first, but I feel so bad with him. He was a selfish guy. He told me, “Oh, it’s my company. I send in these guys.” I told him, “My friend, just I wanna fix the furnace for my house. I don't care how your company is. Just I needed fixing my problems.” But he said, “It's not my fault your furnace is buying somewhere, and I don't find the parts for that **.” He was screaming and yelling. I called American Home Shield again and in 15 minutes, they called that guy and fixed the problem. He sent in the other personnel. That guy showed up in the house, and he fixed the problem with my furnace. Now, everything is running fine.

    The burners were not coming on and there was gas coming into the house. When I would turn it on, it would not light, and so there was gas being emitted and it would not lit. The tech was able to clean the igniters. It works now, so we're in good shape. The tech was very good and professional. He did his job. He identified what the problem was and very quickly solved it.

    Initially, I did the claim the way that American Home Shield asked, and that was through the computer. I heard nothing from them for almost two and a half days. So, it required me then to call. Then I waited on the line for a while before anybody came on. That is where I would say that there was a dropping of the ball. But when somebody came on, we went through a little bit of identifying who I was and the rep did see that a written claim had been submitted already. And from there, it was quick. In the past, I've referred people to AHS. I would continue to do that but my recommendation would be for people to call in and not use the internet in order to enter the problem.

    As far as making a claim with AHS, I don't think it could have been simpler when you're making it online. It was also very simple when the people came out for my washer. I thought everything was okay. He said, "We're only here for about 10 minutes. We just have to order these parts." I said, "Okay." Then, he said, "It's been about a week." When that didn't happen, I called yesterday, and I asked what was going on. The woman from that company said, "AHS denied the claim." I never even got any information that it was denied. I'd have been sitting here forever had I not called.

    I was shocked that this wasn't covered. I don't have a washer. I paid $125 for the service fee. I just don't understand how they could deny the claim. I'm extremely disappointed. I got American Home Shield because somebody recommended it. That they were the company that would fix things when other companies would try and get out of not fixing it.

    You can't get quick service with American Home Shield because every claim takes several days before a contractor shows up. You can make phone calls yourself and set up a local repair. Also, none of the people that American Home Shield uses are local to where I live. When you put a claim online, the website doesn't give you a lot of room to put a real description of what your problem is. I had a recent claim with a refrigerator going out and I couldn't really describe what the problem was. Once you submit a claim, you get the email from American Home Shield who they've assigned it to. Then either the contractor contacts you or sometimes I contact them, and then they tell you what your appointment time is. You get notices 30 minutes or an hour before they come.

    My hot water heater needed to be replaced but when the guy came out to install it, the contractor had the wrong hot water heater. He looked and said that both of these hot water heaters were leaking. So the contractor had to make an adjustment on the request to get approval to replace the second hot water heater. When they replaced the two hot water heaters, they brought two different hot water heaters. They're both the same capacity, but one is tall and the other one is short. Without going back and forth, I had them install what they brought out since they were the same quantity. They installed them and after they were gone, I looked at the location where my hot water heaters are and they didn't clean up. They left a lot of old parts so I had to clean all that up myself.

    We're very pleased with American Home Shield. I was very pleased at how quickly they had someone call me to schedule to come out. The young man was very professional and very nice and explained to me what he was doing. The microwave was not coming on. He took it apart at the top and some grease had gotten in there. So, he fixed that. Also, I have a JennAir stove and it wasn't coming on, and he had to go in and he sanded something. He’s very good.

    The only thing is I have the original, good, top quality, custom-made ceiling fans, and AHS kept insisting that they would send someone to repair it. I kept explaining to their people that only people that are certified to do this particular ceiling fan can work on it. They need to listen to the customer. It was three years. I got tired of calling them and I didn't have a ceiling fan. I'd call again and they finally got the message, and the person that was certified in the East Coast is someone that lives in Florida and he only comes up here periodically. I finally got him in and both of my ceiling fans are now working.

    The biggest problem that we see with the claim submission process is the language barrier. There have been a couple of times in the last year or so, where when we put a service request in, it does not get translated properly even though we're very concise about what we're saying. We used to get somebody stateside but now, that's no longer the case and it's very frustrating. Then, today, we tried to get through to them all day using several different numbers and we kept getting disconnected. We have sold our home and are going to transfer our service to the new owners but we've not been able to get through.

    Once we are able to get through and a service request goes in, it's not an issue. Most of the contracts are good. We also have worked with their contractors who we know who we want to come into our homes. Although, there are occasionally ones that you do not want coming back into your home. Pendyk Plumbing came out recently when we had a leaky toilet and they are phenomenal.

    The washer repair guy let Home Shield know that the faucets for the washing machine were leaking around the seals. AHS sent the techs and they tightened up the nuts on it and opened the valve that I couldn't turn. They did fine and cleaned up when they were done. But I was with someone else prior, and AHS' is a much easier process. The first company, you couldn't have them go ahead and repair it. You had to call them back, and the technician had to talk to them. I had technicians who wouldn't talk to the warranty people so it was really frustrating. But if I was recommending Home Shield, I would explain that it's something that's been very helpful for me.

    The home is 15 years old and I've had several service calls with American Home Shield. They've been handled appropriately. Three weeks ago, my heater was out. American Home Shield had contacted a vendor, but the vendor couldn't establish it. They couldn't get there for a week. In wintertime, it was an issue so I called back. We found another vendor and got it fixed within two or three days. Everything's worked out well.

    I got feedback about a discounted maintenance service for the HVAC. They give you a list but it didn't make a lot of sense to have it done. It was preventative maintenance but I didn't fully understand what I’d get out of it. If they found something that needs to be repaired, I’d still have to pay whatever my deductible is. If there was some incentive to pay that and get half off of my visit or the initial call payment, it would be beneficial. They're reducing maintenance costs in the long term and issues by having me do preventative maintenance which was an okay deal, but it wasn't enough to incentivize me to do everything.

    My water heater would not stay lit. Doug scheduled the time to come out and he was there exactly when he said he was gonna be there. He called me to let me know that he was 30 minutes away from my house. So, I was able to get there before he got there. He knew exactly what the problem was, had the equipment to repair on the truck, and the job was done within an hour. I have not had a problem with it since. So, he was awesome. He was very kind and polite. He was also very respectful and professional.

    Now that American Home Shield has it where you can just go online and do the claim, it's much better than trying to reach a person to put the claim in. There were some minor issues before but they were resolved. So far, it's been great. I love the fact that now I can just go online and put in there what's the problem, then they get the payment, and I get a call within the next one or two business days with a representative from whatever agency they're gonna be sending to assess the situation. I absolutely love American Home Shield. I'm a single senior citizen, and it's very easy for me to be able to just call and not worry about my house falling apart and not have somebody to come in and put it back together again.

    I’ve had some problems where American Home Shield's contractor had to keep coming back. I made a mistake where somebody came and fixed the washer, and they kept coming back. Finally, the repair person said they were going to replace a part. Then the guy that came back said, “We're not going to replace this part. There’s nothing wrong with this machine.” I let it go because I believed him. Then, it started to leak again. I had to pay all over again for another repair, and that’s how it was fixed.

    I also had an issue up in the attic. Somebody came out and he went up. He stood in the opening of the attic, looked around, and he said, “Well, I can't fix the problem. I don’t see any problem.” In the meantime, we got an engineer in, and it was an issue with the ductwork. So, I had to pay $10,000 to replace the ductwork when that should have been something that AHS should have done. Overall, I’ve had some bad experiences with AHS, but I also had some good experiences. But this latest time, they were really good. They fixed the plumbing problem. The person who came out was very patient. It took him a while to clear the clog, but he fixed it. I was happy with that.

    The dishwasher and the disposal were not draining. The disposal was draining into the dishwasher and the dishwasher was draining back up into the sink. American Home Shield sent out an appliance repairman and he told me it was not a dishwasher problem, it was a plumbing problem. American Home Shield sent a plumber out, Bill. He cleared out the clog and it's all good now. It’s just I had to do without a sink or dishwasher for two weeks during Thanksgiving. It was a little icky. The plumber is at least 50 miles away from here, so it would have been good if American Home Shield had a plumber that was more local. I've always had American Home Shield and they've always been pretty good. The only negative I've ever had is the wait, sometimes not being able to get a contractor right away.

    When the technician came in, I told him the situation with the broken furnace. But he said he couldn't work on it. He was just standing inside the entrance door. I told him, "At least you can go and check it out. What is the problem?" He said, "I cannot do it." I was quite politely talking to him and then finally, he said, "Okay. Enough is enough." We used to have a different home warranty and half the time they couldn't find technicians. They must not have had a contract with A&E. But I know and trust A&E and that's who AHS sends.     We have an air exchanger that went out, and we called American Home Shield. They sent somebody out. That guy said, "Well, it's so old, there are no replacement parts to fix it." So, he was going to recommend that it be replaced, and we were gonna be contacted. We got contacted by another company who American Home Shield was going to send out. He said, "I'm on my way." But then we found out they don't work on air exchangers. I called American Home Shield, and the guy looked and he spent quite a long time reading the whole thing. I was thinking if they were gonna charge me again because I had to pay a service call to have the first guy come out. We found out there's an installation charge of probably $1,500 on this thing. It's like, "Okay. So if we paid $800 for it, we pay another $1,500 in installation. And that's what a new one would cost, anyway.”

    At this point, we still haven't gotten to either the second opinion or the company to come out and say, "Okay, we're gonna replace it." So, the jury's still out on whether or not we're satisfied. It's been a couple weeks for the whole process but I really can't expect that I make a call, and the very next day, someone's gonna come out. This is not an emergency. So, the timeline isn't unexpected for me.

    American Home Shield's claim process, especially online, is very simple and easy. The customer service reps have been great. I haven't had a bad experience. I've gotten all my questions answered and gotten everything that I needed resolved. Sears came out for an appliance repair recently. The technician was really good. He took a look at everything. I was pretty much right there watching him. He didn't have a problem with me being over his shoulder and asking questions. He pointed things out and told me the issues. It's a benefit having American Home Shield and the contractors that they provide. Those are professionals and they can actually take a look and identify the problems. What I like too is that a lot of the people that American Home Shield uses are already verified. These people are certified and I appreciate that, too.

    Sometimes, my experience with American Home Shield is good and sometimes, it's really bad. Sometimes, I call and they'll have somebody out and they fix the issue right away and they do a great job. Sometimes, it takes four or five times for somebody to fix it. AHS doesn't have a lot of companies to come out and work and I got to wait so long to get serviced.

    My claim most recently was for my refrigerator and it went good and very smoothly. My refrigerator completely broke. They had somebody out and they took care of it right away. The guy did a thorough job on that. One time, my water pipe broke and we called and called and couldn't get ahold of them. My house kind of flooded with the water. They said they have after-hours, and I couldn't get ahold of anybody. Then they never ever took care of me after that. I had to call somebody from the outside.

    We have been a member for approximately five years with American home Shield and did have one prior claim that was covered, however last year we had an issue with an appliance and was told to purchase a new one and we would be reimbursed.... After months of phone calls, emails, etc. we have not received a response other than it might have been lost in the mail, we have been promised a reimbursement check for over seven hundred dollars and it is approximately one year without response, it is interesting that we receive regular calls to ask us to sign up again but we have had no calls from customer service trying to follow-up with our initial claim, we have advised American Home Shield on multiple occasions that after they follow through with their contract we will consider re-signing, however if it takes one year for reimbursement, we will most likely consider other options.

    AHS's customer service was good. I called Sunday to file a claim for my furnace and the tech came the next day. He fixed it. It was pretty simple. I just don't like the service fee. I also have HomeServe and with them, I don't have any service fees when they do my plumbing.

    American Home Shield is good but in some cases like the water heater and the air conditioner, their performance is very poor. For the AC, we need to pay like $800 for the Freon. They are only paying $10. Also, they only just replace the water heater. They don’t replace everything. The people that are coming are asking for much money like $500 for installation. Recently, I have an experience with the air condition. Two people came. They told me I need to pay like $900. There is a Freon leak, but they don’t want to fix the leak. They wanted to fill the Freon, and that was it. If they fix the leak, they need to replace the furnace. Overall, American Home Shield is a good company. I’m getting a lot of benefits from the American Home Shield’s insurance protection.

    American Home Shield has been very efficient. Whenever I have a problem, the contractor is appointed. They come out and rectify the problem or look at it and address it and it's been very good. The contractors are very professional and I've been very happy so far. My washing machine wasn't working and the contractor came out and fixed it. Then, a couple of months later, they came out again because it didn't work properly again. The washing machine was replaced in its entirety because they couldn't repair it and the repairs were going to be more than the actual new machine. My furnace wasn't heating recently and AHS sent out an HVAC guy to come and look at it and it was a loose wire. He repaired it and now, it's working perfectly.

    My furnace wasn’t heating the house so I called American Hoem Shield. Technicians came out, assessed the situation, and the furnace was fixed within an hour. This was my first time using the home warranty and I was satisfied. When getting a warranty, know what's covered, how long it’s covered, and how long something is under warranty once technicians come out and fix it. The deductible should be a consideration too.
