We had a faucet issue at our old house and a plumber was sent out. It went pretty well. He was the best. I like American Home Shield. I moved from my old house and went to my new house and I’m still using them. I recommend them.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.
Have a great day.

I'd been having the same issue and Steinberg Plumbing came and did their thing. They had to come back with parts. American Home Shield has been good, but I need more English speaking people. When I call them, it’s hard to communicate with them.

I had a clog and the tech who came cleared it out for me. He was pretty good. I had to have him out twice for two different sinks within the week. American Home Shield did pretty good, too. One of the things I like about them is there’s no deductible except for the heating and cooling.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

The refrigerator wasn't cooling and the icemaker wasn't making ice. When they came out the tech said he had to defrost the refrigerator and then the icemaker should start working. So, I waited 48 hours. No ice dropped. So I had to do a recall. The tech came back and he said, “Oh, I’m gonna have to order you a new icemaker.” So they did that. He said, “This should be 7 to 10 days.” But it ended up being two months. I finally got the new ice maker right before Christmas.
The contractors are very professional and they've done a great job. When the tech brought the icemaker, he put it in and said, “Here's my card. If you have a problem, call me.” He gave me his direct number. So that was good. Go ahead and get AHS. The older your house gets, these things are gonna happen. Even if you buy a new item, and the warranty goes out, the price that AHS did was wonderful based on the fact that the store is charging you just as much to get their little warranty that may only last two years. Being with AHS for a year covers a lot versus me buying a refrigerator and paying for a warranty charge of 200 and something when I can get something that will protect me even better and I can call on several items. But AHS needs to give me more time to experiment if the work has been completely done on certain items.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs.
Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed.

The claim submission process is intuitive and practical. I like to do it online where it's easier and quicker. Because it seems like I'm always talking to someone who may not necessarily be in America. That has only occurred within the last four years and it’s becoming more and more pronounced over the past two years. After I submit a claim to AHS, the techs always call within 48 hours and it's just a matter of coordinating the best time. There was a leak in one of my bathrooms and the techs were able to repair it. It was just a screw that had come apart.
Eugene,
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The heating in our living room stopped working one day, so I filled out an online request on American Home Shield's website and I was told that Maselli Contracting would call. It was a day before Christmas, so they didn't come out that day or the next, but then the day after that, very early in the morning, I got a call from them. They came out and looked at my heating. It needed a part, so the repairman went out, got the part and fixed it within less than an hour. So far, American Home Shield has been good. Things break down, so having some sort of warranty is a good thing so that you don't get hit with whatever big issue.

On 12/3021, the water heater broke. Subzero temp and two children (1 and 5) meant urgent conditions. I reported and requested urgent help. On 1/3, I called the assigned service provider 3 times and left VMs; no response. I sent 3 texts; no response. Plumber showed up unexpectedly without calling. Determined that the thermostat and the pilot are broken, and unit must be replaced. We called the next day (twice) for a quick resolution, and got the answer that plumber has not submitted a report. Next day, service provider returned the messages left three days before; they said not the report was submitted to AHS on the day of visit!
Called AHS back. This time, AHS, without sharing the plumber's report, said AHS will replace the tank (which is NOT the problem plumber had diagnosed at the time visit) -- and that we must pay for all the resulting modifications at the cost of about $1900. You see, the gas and waterline, etc. need to be modified unnecessarily when a tank of a different size is replaced! I opted for cash out, and pleaded for a quick resolution.
The associate said they will sent to authorization ASAP and ask to expedite so we can get the cash and put it toward a new unit. This was 5 days ago, I have called every day. The answer has every time been, "Give us another 24 hours for our authorization department to determine the amount." AHS has not even called once to help us with the dire, urgent situation under subzero temperatures, no hot water, and 2 small children.
AHS said they have the tanks in stock. In stock? What does that mean? Apparently, they buy a whole bunch of tanks, and force the clients to pay the service providers for the labor costs of replacing the tanks (when it was not bad in my case) and pay for the costs of resulting modifications, including the parts that were bad (the thermostat and pilot in my case).
AHS does not care about clients once we are trapped in the AHS contract with small prints they do not mention and hide when we sign up. This is a scam. What else do you call this? I had to finally go ahead and get a new unit under the urgent conditions. I have texted AHS on Twitter, and they don’t respond to my question: "when do you expect to authorization to determine the cash out!" Just that they have escalated it. The word “American” is in the name of the company. The last thing this company has is one epsilon of American Integrity and decency.

I had a problem with the stove, the hood, the refrigerator, and the dishwasher. The tech who came was very thorough and explained everything that he was doing. However, I had to go out and buy my appliances, and I'm waiting for American Home Shield to send me a refund. We were fortunate that we could go out and buy our appliances, but American Home Shield should probably change that where they send the money so the customer could get their appliances. They can also improve on their phone service. It's a long time on the phone and you have to wait.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Recently my tankless water heater stopped working. I called for the service request. They assigned so classed service professional for the job known as A AND B PLUMBING SERVICES LLC, I called this company (A and B) at least 50 times but no response until three weeks later. Finally, the technician come and told me the control board is bad and since this part is under manufacturer warranty, so AHS will not fix it.
I called the AHS and ask them to pay for the labor because parts are under warranty for this unit. They told me to wait for one week our service department is reviewing your request. After calling them at least five times, finally, the answer was given to me a big NO since my unit parts are under warranty so we will not cover labor cost at all. The AHS gave me the punishment because my heater was under manufacturer parts warranty. I tried to explain to them, but they said NO. You will not cover this service request.
Now I must hire another plumbing company to restart from scratch because AHS’s technician refused to come back. In a conclusion, if your unit is under any kind of manufacturer warranty ASH will fix it and you are responsible for it fixing with out-of-pocket money. Imagine in winter, I have been living for six weeks without hot water because of the AHS warranty otherwise I would have hired somebody and fixed the unit in two days. I wasted six weeks struggling with the AHS warranty.

The motor on our heating went out, and the company that did the work was fine. They got back quick enough. The only thing with American Home Shield is they don't tell you all the time that they can't fix something and that it won't do you any good. I had a water heater that went out and the last time I had a different company, they wouldn't do anything for me at all. I realize that most of the time, it’s just parts in that. But if they can't get the parts and can't fix the unit, it will be replaced. The only problem is sometimes you have to pay for it up front before you get your money.

The techs were nice people but it took three times to get the furnace fixed right. They were prompt and it was a good experience. It's just that they couldn't figure out what the problem was. They fixed it the first time and it worked. Then, we got up two days later and it was cold in the house. So, we called them again and another guy came and fixed it. It worked for weeks and weeks, and all of a sudden, it was cold again. The guy came out and said that it was the motor. He brought it back. It was on a Friday so on Monday, he had to bring the motor. The whole process took probably a month but we got to the bottom of it. I don't know how much that bill would have been for that motor. In the long run, American Home Shield saved me quite a bit of money. They fixed my problem and it didn't cost me a lot.

I had troubles with my washer that wasn't draining water. I was a little frustrated with American Home Shield in that they wouldn't send anybody out until there was some period of time, which they changed a couple of times. The first time I called, I couldn't get service until the next week because I had signed up three weeks before that. They said that I would have to wait. So I called back at that time and they told me I would have to wait until Sunday and that they would not allow service to happen until after my first monthly payment had come out.
There was nothing anywhere that said that I couldn't request service. I've had home warranty programs before, and that's never come up. So, it was very frustrating for me that I had to wait that long to get somebody to look at my washer. They could’ve processed my payment that day and that would've been fine, instead of me having to wait. Other than that, Martin the tech was extremely helpful in telling me what I could do in the future if the problem happened again. He was fabulous.

American Home Shield essentially won't give you money to ever replace an expensive appliance. My fridge hasn't worked in three and a half months, and I'm sitting here with zero dollars from them and zero fixed or new fridge. They've done a couple other repairs. They fixed our washer, but in my experience, if you have a significant dollar amount, it's impossible to get them to give you money for a new appliance. I can't invest any more time on this company, and we're not going to renew.

We had two problems recently. The refrigerator stopped cooling and then the ice machine had inadvertently gotten over frozen. Then the sensor to tell it to stop making ice was malfunctioning because it was covered with ice. I don't know if it was a circuit board or a sensor, but the refrigerator wasn't working and the freezer was getting too cold. We went through the website of AHS and filed a claim. It was easy. We expected good service and we received it. Now, I have a cold refrigerator. I'm in my second year with AHS and I like that my policy has no dollar value limitation on AC replacement where other companies do.

I have five accounts with American Home Shield. These are all rental properties that I own and I have had these for eight years now. I never had any issues or complaints for a very long time. Last year, in one of my properties, there was an issue with the air conditioner. It was the peak summer season. That issue remained unresolved for almost two months. I had to eventually send out an email. Fortunately, somebody replied and they picked up. After they picked up, the end-to-end process almost was two months.
I ended up paying for a rental AC for my rental unit even though they did pay me back, but it still did not cover all of the hassle and the bad experience. I saw the same exact thing happen on one of my other properties in the same area, Ashburn, Virginia. It was for a refrigerator that broke down. It has been over a month. When they came, they opened up the refrigerator and they said, “Okay. Some part is missing.” Then they said, “We cannot process this because we are overwhelmed because of volume."
It went to another vendor. Then that vendor went out and saw that the previous vendor just opened up the refrigerator and the wiring and everything is hanging out. It was just a mess. They said that, “We’re not going to touch this so you need to send this back to the previous vendor.“ Then that went back to the previous vendor. The part was supposed to arrive yesterday. I haven't had an update from the tenant if they have received the part or not. But that particular request is still open. It was opened on December 8.
Lately, the service has been like meh. It cost me out-of-pocket, not to mention the hassle and not to mention the fact that my tenants, do not want to renew their lease because I could not fix the issue in time. There was a reliability that came with American Home Shield. If you go in immediately, if a part is missing and the part is going to take two weeks, that is understandable. But the fact that nobody picks up and they just drop the ball until we complain or escalate the issue, has become concerning.
I don't see any other option in the market right now. But if other customers are seeing this behavior, and next year, maybe there's a competitor in the market, then I would definitely like to try them. Right now I’m stuck because it's better than nothing. 8 out of 10, my issues are getting addressed fairly quickly within an acceptable amount of time. It just started happening recently.
In one of my properties, I have a fireplace. A fireplace these days is an electric fireplace that you turn the switch on, but it's a gas fireplace. They don't cover fireplaces and I had to pay out of pocket. These are the items that are nowadays present in practically every home. All the houses I own have a fireplace so if something is going wrong with it and I have to pay out-of-pocket, then that makes me reconsider as well.
I went through this assessment recently, like, “Is it worth it, having American Home Shield given the time and money I'm paying and then the out-of-pocket expenses? Will it cost me the same?” Because you don't get complaints from your tenants almost every day. If you get something fixed, if you have things like washing machines and refrigerators, it's like a one-time fix. So if it continues, I may consider dropping a couple of my properties in which I had to pay extra money to get some systems fixed rather than continue with American Home Shield.

My toilet inside was overflowing and it needed repair. The contractor gave me a time period and they came out. They replaced the toilet and then they replaced the water pipe that goes through my line because that was leaking as well because it's old. It's good to have American Home Shield. The only thing I don't like is that they go up every year in price without telling me and it's automatically deducted on my credit card. When I call them, they just said that's just the rising of prices.

My first claim with AHS was last spring and that went fine. They discovered a slow leak in the system and recharged the Freon. Then, I had another a few weeks ago just to come out because I had not had anyone check the system and the ductworks. The guy from Family AC really didn't do anything though except tell me my system is old and I'm going to need a new one.
The way Family AC Service Solutions schedule is not normal. It was frustrating. I told them about it and it was like, "Yeah, okay, whatever." Then, three days after that guy was here, we lost our cooling again. I called and rescheduled. I then went through AHS. A different guy came out after a couple of arguments with schedulers again, and he inspected and checked everything and found, again, the slow leak in my system and recharged the Freon again. There's a problem with my system and they can't find it. All they can do is keep refilling.
It'd be nice if we could find out the list of providers AHS has that we can choose from. The three times called different companies. The first one was one company, and this last few times was the same company. The tech that came the second time was fine once he found the problem and took care of it. But I can't work with that company and their scheduling process. But I would recommend AHS with no problem. When I called most recently or scheduled online, which was very simple, I had no complaints.

The igniters on the stove weren't working. They had gotten old and worn out. I called AHS and it was pretty easy to get through. The man I spoke to was fine and I could understand him. He was very helpful. The techs who came out were wonderful as well. But when I received a call about a cash buyout, if I didn't want to pay their price on getting it up to code with the other stuff, which was 1,000 something dollars, I couldn't understand a word their reps were saying. Their accent was so bad. Every time I called about this, I couldn't understand the person at all. I've asked to speak to somebody that didn't have an accent and was refused twice by two different people. I asked the first person I called about five times and she was not getting anybody else.
I was then told that AHS would have to send my claim over to a different office and it would be 48 hours before I heard anything. But I've been without hot water for seven days now, so I'm not very happy with American Home Shield. For this claim, they didn't trust the first guy's opinion and the second one they sent was the one who's charging me the extra $1,000. The first guy never mentioned any of this stuff having to be done, so I don't know why AHS would hire somebody if they didn't take the guy's word for it.

I've had AHS for two houses now. For 12 years, I had them and I had a pool in the backyard and pools are maintenance issues and they covered everything that went wrong with it over the 10-plus years. Then, I picked them up again at this new house and I've had no issues with them doing what they say they're gonna do. Their rates have gone up a little. They have a deductible on it and it's gone up from originally $70, now, it's 125. But based on inflation, that seems to be reasonable.
I've been happy with AHS. They're a typical insurance company. They push back on claims somewhat. But they've always been good to do what they say they're going to do and fix the things that are under my warranty. I had a clogged pipe in my kitchen sink and the first guy came out and snaked it and it seems to be fine. But then, four days later, it backed up and sewage came into my house. I immediately called them. They had the guys out and they fixed it to the point now where I'm having no problems and there were no questions asked.

I've had both good and bad experiences with American Home Shield. I probably have more experiences that I really didn't care for than experiences I was totally happy with. Recently, the dryer made the sound, but it wasn't working. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and though it wasn't difficult, it wasn't also easy. I had to explain a lot because the rep didn't understand. She was trying to hurry up and tell me what was wrong instead of listening to what I had to say was wrong.
Whoever is gonna come out usually calls and schedules an appointment. For this appointment, the company notified me 15 minutes that the tech was on my porch. He didn't call me before he was headed to my house. I wasn't pleased that he showed up in my house before he was supposed to get there and before there was anybody there. It was not done professionally with this particular company. They need to communicate a little better than just showing up at my house. But the tech did what he needed to do. He pulled the panel off then reached in to look at a little tube vent. What had happened was a sock was stuck in between that so it couldn't get through. He showed me that. He pulled it out, gave it to me, and put the dryer back together.

But we figured we might as well renew it because it's better to pay a little bit a month than having to pay a chunk out whenever we have something go wrong. Plus, AHS has always been good and they still are. The control panel burned out on the microwave and something else happened to it. It shocked my wife when she went to open it. So, the tech came and checked it out. They said the microwave has to be replaced so they gave her the options on which one she wanted that was comparable. They already received my note, but we synced it up and scheduled the service for two days later. When the technician came out, there was something he had to reset. I didn't know how to fix that, so I appreciate having the ability to get somebody out so fast. Everything went smoothly. But initially, it was scary to make the claim. My husband said I shouldn't make a claim on the AC and that we only need to use the warranty for the big stuff. But I went to my email and tried to find my records for our policy. I found that the AC was a covered item and it was really reassuring to know that I had the coverage as I read through it and that it wasn't going to be something I was going go get a lot of pushback or craziness about.

The tech from Eagle Eye didn’t speak very good English and didn't know what he was doing. He fixed the microwave but it broke again. Also, my husband had to help him with removing the actual appliance. The other contractor came and fixed the issue. American Home Shield is reliable and expedient. The prices are good. We pay 60 bucks a month. We've been with them for a long time, so they've been loyal to us. It’s safe to have the coverage that you need in case you have multiple things breaking down.

My experience with American Home Shield was excellent. Two young men came in and were very professional. They cleared out the sink, did what they needed to do and the job was well done. They had masks on too. I’ve had no complaints from the previous one, the last one, or the one before. They come in, tell you what they're gonna do to get the job done and clean up nicely. I don't have to put any reminders out there and I feel confident in the people that American Home Shield has sent thus far. They usually follow through.

He said, “Oh, no. I'm just gonna reschedule you.” That first guy had an attitude. Then I said, “Okay.” They rescheduled me for the following day. The other guy was totally different. The dishwasher was not draining. I made a claim with AHS and it was easy to get the technician out here. But after three visits, it's still not fixed and now, the tech is supposedly ordering a part for it and I wasn't given a timeframe on when it would arrive. But given the situation right now with the supply chain, I understand that. The tech was very friendly and pleasant. As for his competence, part of the problem with the dishwasher is that it was an intermittent thing. Sometimes it would drain and sometimes it wouldn't. So, it may not be his fault that it took three visits to diagnose it. Other than that, AHS has been very prompt in terms of assigning someone to fix things, so I'm very pleased with that.

I had a contractor out to take a look at my dishwasher and it was a good experience. They were on time and it was a fairly quick response. However, I had one person tell me that that's all they could do. I have a couple of ceiling fans that look like they need attention. They said I'd have to make out another report for that. If I have to make two separate appointments for different things, it would be nice to make it all at once. But if that's not the way it goes, I'll be happy to call back in and make another appointment. It's $75 for every item that you have them look at, but that's okay.

The top of my refrigerator wasn't cooling and it was holding ice. The guy from Express Appliance had to come out twice because it was a part that he had to order. He couldn't find it at first, but the part ended up coming into the house and my husband and I were told to contact them when it came. We contacted American Home Shield to inform them that the part came then I also contacted Express Appliance and the same gentleman came out. He showed us the part that he was taking off and the new part that he was placing on and told us where the problem was coming from. He was very knowledgeable as well as informative, and he exceeded my expectations because some of the repair people just come out, do what they have to do and leave.
I was also having issues with the refrigerator in 2021 and I set up something with AHS, but the person never came out. My husband saw ice in the refrigerator and when he took the ice from out of it, it started working again. I never canceled the claim with American Home Shield, so I informed them that I paid $100 that I had not used because my refrigerator had started working again. The representative credited me for this appointment.

Recently, the heater wasn't working. The techs fixed it but it wasn't really blowing hot-hot. So, they came back and changed another part. It's working great. We've had problems with one of the contractors but we have them marked just not to send that one. Also, the contractors tend to charge some things. So even though AHS is a warranty and you think it's gonna cover everything, there’s a lot it doesn't cover. Like when the contractor went to replace the hot water heater, they were changing the type that we had. We had a tall one and they were ordering a short one. We had one contractor that said it needed to be replaced because there was a short he couldn't find. He wanted to charge me $3,500 over the warranty for things that weren't covered. That's a problem.
We had somebody come out on a second opinion, and there was nothing wrong with the unit. So it was just that contractor. They dragged us out from June to November. Also, they were upcharging us to extend all the pipes. So, we just cashed out the claim and got our own hot water heater and had it installed. AHS is nice. I have it for my rental house, and I have it for my own house. It is nice to know that there's kind of a limit on what I'm going to have to spend if there's a problem, especially with the renters. If something's not working, then I know I can get somebody out there to take care of it.

This last time, American Home Shield sent someone else out and they get it working every time, and it stops because it's not working again. The last company that came out put everything new up in the ice maker thing, and it was working, filled the ice tray. We had ice. All of a sudden, it quit. The ice in the little thing up there, but it won't turn and dump them. That was the original problem a couple of months ago. The fan then quit working and one thing after another. So, I'm hoping the next time the contractor comes out, they will get it resolved. But it's not AHS' fault that there's a little glitch in here.

I had a leak in a faucet in my kitchen. I had to open up a claim with AHS for them to come and look into repairing it. The first company AHS sent out was Pro-Tec Plumbing and Drain, who was at my house less than 15 minutes. They tried to say that it was a water pressure issue. I asked for a second opinion, which they tried to make me pay another fee. I challenged that because I was like, “There are no problems with any other faucet or sink in the house. It's a brand new house. We’ve only been in the house for two years.” They finally sent someone else out. Honesty Mechanical came. They said it wasn't a water pressure issue. I had to deal with all this through Christmas. They came back a week later and put the faucet on. They put the faucet on four days before New Year’s. I was using the sink a lot to cook for New Year's and noticed that the faucet was still leaking.
I called Honesty back the day before yesterday. They sent someone out yesterday, who said he couldn't detect a leak. They left again and it’s still not fixed. So today in using the sink, it's not a heavy leak, but there's still water around the base of the faucet. But I couldn't get AHS nor could I get the people they're sending out to explain to me why it couldn't be fixed properly.
I've also been asking for a copy of my contract. They kept saying they emailed it. But when they emailed it, I'm not getting the whole thing. They kept telling me 7 to 10 days and they've been telling me that since I got the plan back in October. I’m just very dissatisfied. I'm tired of calling and asking for the same thing over and over again. If I would have had a copy of my contract and could read that water pressure is not covered, then I probably would have just hired a plumber on my own. You get a home warranty because you feel like you can trust that things in your home are going to be taken care of. But then you have to go through this crap. It makes no sense. Everybody's passing the buck, but they don't miss taking out that monthly payment at all.

It has been great using American Home Shield online. I don't have to call in and make a claim. Contractors come right out. And it has been very handy since I'm a first-time homebuyer. My dryer went out and my first instinct was, "Oh my God. I gotta buy a new dryer." And that's $700. But I was, "No, no, no. You have a home warranty now. That's what that's for." The contractor could contact me very quickly. So, we've had great experience with it.
We had two different people come out. The first claim we put in was my dryer wasn't heating. Jose Appliances came out first and he fixed it with a heating element. Two weeks later, it wouldn't even turn on. So, I put in another claim for the dryer. At that point, Jose Appliances wasn't servicing our area anymore. So, Diaz and Sons came out and they replaced the timing element with the dryer. They came out the next day. Everything has been good since they came back out.

It was kind of rough at first with American Home Shield. Sometimes, they are just fixing stuff but and it doesn't last. But this last gentleman I had out from FNA Appliance Repair, Victor, did a good job. I would recommend him to people. He sent one of his workers first then he came out himself because it took a two-person job. He said they were gonna get it done for me before Christmas and they did. He made me feel good.
What happened with the oven at first was first contractor told American Home Shield that they did not handle those type of ovens but they did not tell me that. They just gave me a number to the company that was supposed to come and fix it. I called the company, and they were the ones that told me. That was negligence on American Home Shield's part because I shouldn't have had to do none of that. I am paying almost $100 a month, and I got to call around. When I kind of got a little upset and they sent FNA, things changed and turned around. But even in that, I had to call FNA. American Home Shield should have been calling, making those arrangements and finding out does the contractor do those type of ovens, not me.
Prior to that, American Home Shield had sent other people out for my washer and dryer, and all they did was fix it long enough for it to work. They should have recognized it to be renewed. But they didn't, so I ended up buying a new washer and dryer. I'm seriously thinking about stopping the warranty because I feel like sometimes it's a waste of money every month paying that.

They worked really hard to get a really weird random part so that we would have heat back for Christmas. I'm delighted. I was so pleased with the company that they chose. We had heat back on the day before Christmas Eve. The tech tried multiple things, working his way up and ultimately, it was a command aboard. It was $600. I don't know what I would have done if we had to pay for that out-of-pocket. So it worked out beautifully. It was so easy to make a claim. The warranty has more than paid for itself at this point.

American Home Shield has worked great for me. Thus far, the experience with them has been convenient and professional. Recently, a tech came out to do a tune-up on the unit. I pointed out that we were experiencing some slightly odd behaviors. A circuit breaker was occasionally tripping. The tech took that seriously, looked into it, said there were problems, did a little bit more checking and realized that a couple of components on the control board were fried. He said, "I don't have the ability to fix that right now. You need to call American Home Shield and change this from a courtesy tune-up call to an actual service call." I called American Home Shield and told them that. They changed the type of call in their system and the next business day, a different tech came out with the correct replacement part and fixed the unit. There were two different techs and both of them were excellent in their communications and the service that they provided.

Last year, I had a request and American Home Shield sent a plumbing guy who did not have any clue of what the issue was. They had to reimburse the money because the guy did nothing. Recently, I had a couple of issues. One was the heater was not working and the other was a plumbing issue. Putting a service request was easy but the problem with this warranty is the response time or the sense of urgency is not there. They don't share how they categorize an issue to be an urgent issue or a normal issue with you. It's only for them and most of the time, it's a normal urgency for them. They assign a contractor 24 to 48 hours after the request. But in many cases, they're trying to assign within 24 hours. The contractor comes after that, based on their availability, within 24 hours. But for the heater issue, which to me is urgent, I complained on Saturday night and it was Wednesday by the time it was fixed.
American Shield tries to pick the low-cost contractors and a low-cost contractor doesn't mean they are good or they are bad but in most cases, I don't see their responsiveness. From a consumer perspective, I'd like to get a quick response, particularly if I call them at night. Most offices are closed, but depending on the agenda, I expect at least some kind of a quick response. American Home Shield saved me some money on the furnace but I don't know what are the other options. I'm not extremely happy with American Home Shield. I also don't like the initial fee of $125. Sometimes, it may be a simple issue or something that needs not that much cost. I'd like to see the visit cost to be around $50.

The two men from Sigmond Plumbing took care of the problem.
I even had a problem with some electrical outlets in my kitchen that weren't working. I guess something had tripped a grounded circuit, which affected the garbage disposal. So instead of just leaving after they installed the garbage disposal and saying, "Hey, we did our part," the guy researched the electrical panel, asked me if I had grounded circuits, where were they, pushed a button, and now my garbage disposal worked and three electrical outlets started working again. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. I've been with them for a while now but there are always some things that could be improved. Most of the contractors are decent. But I had one that was recent where a plumber came out and unclogged the pipe, but they used the pipe on the outside to uncap it. They broke that cap then I had to go through some changes to get somebody to come back out there to replace the cap. They kept saying they weren’t responsible for it, that it was on the outside. But if they broke it, then why wouldn’t they be responsible for it? One shouldn't have to go through a lot just to get something replaced back to its original state. Recently, American Home Shield sent the wrong technician out. It's a wall heater with a thermostat on the wall and they sent an electrician out when it was supposed to be a plumber. They finally sent the right one out a couple of days later.

He came out on time the next day. I was pleasantly surprised that he was coming from Rock Hill, and we're in western North Carolina. He was able to diagnose everything relatively quickly. He had my wife call me, got me on speaker phone, and told me exactly what was going on. He said he was going to make the recommendations. An hour and a half later, I was talking with American Home Shield, and they had already received the recommendation. It was quick and thorough. I was absolutely shocked, again, when I talked to Honesty Mechanical and they said they could come out and replace the unit the next day.
This is my second experience with American Home Shield. I had them on my previous home and when we bought this house, we had an initial contract with 2-10. As soon as that ended, I made sure to go back with the company I knew and did a contract with American Home Shield. I’d tell others the whole process of how to make a claim, and how easy it is. Having the warranty on the house saved me a lot of money. On the air conditioner alone, they saved me $4,000.

It was even cheaper-looking than the one I had and I didn't appreciate that. AHS says "We'll repair or replace whatever you have" but what they did left a bad taste in my mouth. It was a low grade faucet, but it had nice-looking handles and they were high. The one that they put on looks like a bathroom sink, low and cheap-looking. Other than that, the tech was absolutely professional.

We had a plugged tub in another house that I rent out to a family member. The whole process with AHS was super easy. I didn’t even have to call and make an appointment, I just scheduled it online. The only thing was it took a little while for the plumber to respond. But it was within the time limits that were set. We also got an email with who it was so we could call them if we needed to. With AHS, I like the peace of mind knowing that if something breaks, we can fix it without breaking the bank for me.

Then prior to the appointment, I got who the technician would be who would be coming as well. The service provided by the tech was very good. Now, everything's fine. I'm very satisfied with AHS. My heating went out and Doctor Cool came out. They told me that I had to pay $565 before they would do anything to the system. I didn't have it at the time so they didn't do anything and I didn't have heat for five days. When I called and told them I finally got the money, they made me wait another five days before they came out and worked on it. But it went out the next day again so they had to set up another appointment and they said it was a thermostat. The guy put a thermostat in and it's been working okay but not to the best because it makes a lot of noise.
Also, when I first took this work order in, I was told that there was a 30-day on it. But when I called Doctor Cool, they said that I have to call AHS and AHS has to call them. I told them it's open for 30 days but they said it's their procedure. I would not recommend Doctor Cool. I also had a claim for the air condition unit. AHS said they pay for $10 a pound for Freon but the contractor charged $80 per pound. I ended up having to pay that money before they even started doing any kind of work. I've already applied for another home warranty. There's no way I'm gonna go through this at all. It's terrible. It's like they got my money and, "We really don't care."

When the heater not heating, American Home Shield was able to identify a company really quickly, which was exactly what I needed because it was cold. There was an issue with a blower motor and a wire was messed up in our thermostat and the tech who came was awesome. He took a look at my system according to the issues that I had identified. He troubleshot it and both of my systems are working perfectly now. They heat and cool, and they're accurate. When he came the first time, he looked at the downstairs air conditioner and did some troubleshooting on it. Then he went upstairs and that was when he realized that the blower motor was out. He told me that he was going to put it on order and gave me an estimate about how long it was going to take because they didn't have it in the local area.
He made sure I had his number and said, “For the one downstairs, you give me a call if it's not doing what it's supposed to be doing while we're waiting for the blower motor to come in." He came back, installed the blower motor, then followed up on the one downstairs, too. When he came back to install the blower motor, he also blew out my lines for me to make sure that my air conditioners drain properly. He was awesome.
I would tell others to make sure that they have an American Home Shield warranty. It's worth it in the long run. If you're trying to ensure that your home increases in value, then you can always use them help to maintain the things in your home so that if you ever go to sell it, you've maintained everything in it to the point to where you won't have any issues when they appraise it. I'm in the process of selling my house because I'm going to be moving to San Antonio, but I have already sent information through my real estate agent to give the buyer’s real estate agent information about American Home Shield to make sure that they have an option to assume my warranty.
I'm going to keep paying American Home Shield and any house that I own after this house will have them. I have a house in Louisiana that I'm going to be putting American Home Shield on. American Home Shield’s reputation is only going to be as good as the contractors that they hook people up with when they have issues and they’ve been doing a good job, so far.

American Home Shield is the best decision I've made for my home. I was a little on the fence at first, but it's paying off already. The first time we had to call, the garage door was not opening. Somebody came out the next day, which was excellent, only to find that it was just a matter of pressing a switch. But still, we wouldn't have known that, so it was money well spent. Recently, our dishwasher went out. Someone from GE came out and took a look at it. He ordered the parts and those parts came to our house. He came back and fixed it then he was gone. Then the microwave went out and all the lights in the foyer went out as well, which was very strange. We weren't sure if those were connected or just two separate things. The same guy came back out and looked at the microwave to see what was going on with it.
In the meantime, I put in another service request for electrical for the foyer. The people that called were very nice and tried to get us scheduled the next day after that. The guy came out and for some reason, he just looked at the plate and it was some kind of discoloration and he was able to fix that easily. He said that there was no way we would have known. He just so happened to check it. Our fuse was also out for the microwave and he fixed that as well. I'm so glad I paid for this. We will be in a hole right now for very small things. The technician was awesome. He did the job. He took things apart and checked it and put it back together. He was very professional. Everything's working good. Both experiences I had using AHS have been great. The first contractors who came out for the garage door a year and a half ago, I paid them to replace the sensors. They had the old light sensors and so when the sun would hit them they didn't work. The tech when I called on my garage door that won't stay shut was great. He was gonna put a battery in the previous remote because it stopped working. But actually, problem wasn't the battery. It was water that got in the remote somehow. The guy did a good job and sold me a new remote.

Then, it told me the contact information of the company assigned to my claim. When the tech came out, he was professional, courteous, and friendly. He showed me exactly what he did and gave me some basic information about the sequence of how you light the pilot versus the instructions that were on the water heater. So far, everything's great. The warranty is reasonably priced and the contractors that AHS have used have been knowledgeable.

When my garbage disposal was making this crazy mechanical noise, a repairman came rather quickly from the time that I made the appointment. His work was fine but when he was coming in my house, he didn't have a mask and shoe covers. I asked him if he could put a mask and he said he had it in his car. The other part about that was when I asked him if he was vaccinated, he told me no. People can do whatever they want with their choice but that's something that people need to be aware of and to make that choice whether or not they want someone who's unvaccinated to come into their house. Folks shouldn’t assume that it's okay for them to come.
The issue ended up being a little screw underneath the blade. For that little two minutes he was here to take that screw out, I shouldn’t be charged $100. That wasn't worth $100. But I've also called AHS because my garbage disposal didn't work at all, and a guy came out. AHS honored the agreement that I had and put in a new garbage disposal so I was pleased with that. I also had another plumbing problem and they took care of that too.

AHS's warranty is a really good product for the cost. It's a cost savings. When we had the policy in Dickinson, right after moving in, the garbage disposal went kaput. American Home Shield sent somebody and they automatically replaced it. It was wonderful. Our last claim was for a furnace checkup. The tech did whatever he was doing but when he was finished, he didn't give us an update. There was no communication at all. Other than that, in the even that something happens, like when we had an issue with the HVAC, the home warranty makes it a lot easier to get repairs done.

I called and spoke with someone about the garage door spring and asked some questions. I paid the fee and had the company come. Then they said it wasn't covered and I wasn't told that so I paid the fee and then I paid their cost, which was $700 to replace the springs on the garage door. I've had that done before and it was much less by a company before I had American Home Shield. I made a complaint about that and they sent the same person back from the same company. Also, the rubber seal at the bottom of the garage door was falling off and I had to replace it. I thought if they were going to charge and do something that was out of the coverage, there should have been some conversation about replacing that seal, and so I didn't have a good feeling about the company that American Home Shield chose.
The other situation is, this week, we have a dishwasher that's being replaced. When I spoke with the replacement department, we had a lengthy conversation where we were going on the computer while they were on the phone and making sure that we were getting a like-for-like replacement. But when the person came, he said that I didn't have the right dishwasher. Then he challenged me and he called and spoke to his company in Spanish in front of me not knowing what they were saying. He came back and had me talk to the person and they said it was the wrong dishwasher. I asked what model number they have and I told them that was the same model number that me and the person from their company that does replacement went online to make sure it was going to match.
They decided to open the box and the person was on the phone in the driveway with someone who was from his company with his camera phone, doing a video chat. They did in fact have the right dishwasher but it was damaged inside the box, it was bent, so that attempt to replace was aborted. That was Monday. I was told that within 24 to 48 hours, they would have an answer as to whether another of that same model was available to reschedule. I was glad that he was timely. But it didn't appear that he was informed about what it was he was doing because he had the right device but he didn't seem to know that, and I had to have a bit of a struggle to communicate that.
I thought that by using AHS, I would be referred to reputable dealers or service companies, and I didn't get that in the first claim. But I got that in the second one. They scheduled Sears to come for the dishwasher handling. They determined the part was no longer available. I have another company to compare it to because I'm helping my brother who has some investment property, and he has a company that I've been trying to get a dishwasher repaired since September. The last time I called them, I was on hold for 93 minutes before I spoke to a human being. With AHS, I'm not having those kinds of waits, so I'm happy with what I've experienced. This is my first time dealing with home warranties and I'm better versed now with what to know, how to navigate and make sure that I'm calling the right company and that it is a covered benefit.

When I submit the claim into the American Home Shield portal, my only suggestion would be to allow the customer to freely type what their issue is. With the heating and air, we had an error code that kept popping up on our thermostat. I only got a couple of checkboxes to check in there. I couldn't actually type in what the issue was so I was forced into the fields that might not apply. Then we continue to have trouble with our water in our house and we've had to submit a couple of claims about it. We're forced to pick one, either hot water, cold water issue, or the water heater issue. If the contractor comes out and says it's something else, but the claim is for the issue we picked, we pay the deductible for it. There's nothing wrong with it, we're just out the money for the deductible. That's my one complaint.
We've had two different companies for heating and air that have come out and they've been phenomenal to work with. They've taken our issues seriously and communicated with us. Now, the company that we worked with for our water issues had been to our house on two different calls. They've had to send out more than one technician and I've made it abundantly clear to American Home Shield that the company was horrific to work with. We've already spent a couple of hundred dollars just on the deductible alone and our issues hadn't been resolved. Now, we're stuck trying to figure out the issues on our own and hiring a plumber on our own because there's never been another plumber to work with American Home Shield in our area and we don't want that other company to come back because they’ve already told us they can't help us.
American Home Shield needs more contractors to work with. Then if I'm letting them know that I'm dissatisfied with this contractor, I would expect somebody to be reaching out to me to find out more about that process. There should be a better follow-up on their end. But overall, it's been a decent experience and I haven't had any issues with renewing our policy or utilizing the portal. There's enough knowledge between the pamphlet they send when signing up for the protection plan and on their website to get a decent understanding of what my coverage is.

We have a dual air conditioner, and last year, it wasn't blowing anymore on either floor. We had somebody come out, said that it needed a new blower motor, but American Home Shield didn't send them back out to install the blower motor. AHS sent these other people to fix our AC and all they said was that it unscrewed itself out. This was three separate times, and it was when Coronavirus was a big deal for us. I have a disabled daughter, so we don't like anyone in the house.
When I told AHS I would not have those people out anymore, another guy came out and made the air conditioner blow on both floors at the same time. We thought that would be great until our PG&E bill went up because now it's trying to cool the whole house down instead of a floor at a time. And then, we went to turn on our heater this year, and it wasn't working. Infinity Air came, fixed the problem, and it's been working no problem since. They weren't even out here very long.

I did not have a good experience in the beginning, but finally, my issue was addressed. It was for the heater. It took so long, and my basement was almost destroyed by water. American Home Shield told me it was the contractor who came to my home. I kept telling them that, “You have to send another person if this person is not responding.” So, I don't know the value of having a contractor who doesn't care about the value of someone else's home. Because he came here and he did not report the issue. But when I reached out to him, he told me that it was AHS that did not want to do the work. I kept asking AHS, and they told me to wait. I had been waiting for three months, so I told them that I was would report them to Consumer Reports. And they finally came, but it was too late. They replaced the heater. The washer stopped working. It just wouldn't cycle. We bought another washer. I got it fixed. It just took so long. The company American Home Shield had was waiting on parts. The other thing I don't like is their premium goes up every year and they don't call to negotiate it. If I don't call and negotiate it, whatever they lock me in at is what I pay. I don't have a time to change it. So, I'm currently looking for another home warranty, because I called them back to try to negotiate. It started out at 54 and it went to 60 something. And now it's a 74.99. So as a brand-new customer, I can get the same warranty that I have for $54 a month. Why do I want to pay 74.99 when I can get it for $54? Which is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. But being because I didn't call back in my renewal period, which I don't remember when it renews. When I looked at the credit card, I saw that it was different, I was like, "I wonder how long that's been." It had been a few months.
The lady said, "Well, we already done this and we already done that. You can't change it, blah, blah, blah." One year, I didn't make a claim at all. So it's not like I've made multiple claims and they're trying to recoup their money. It's just, "We're just going up 'cause everything else goes up." That didn't make any sense to me. Other than that, we've been happy with AHS. The stuff we needed to fix, they fixed. We had to wait a while on that one washer. It took them forever. But this last time, it was time efficient. The contractor came out, looked at it, came back and ordered parts. They fixed it within a couple of weeks.

Last spring, we were having some repairs done on our house. We got something in the mail from our electric company saying that our bill has been extremely high and it seems to be reoccurring. They asked to come and see if they could figure out what's going on. We agreed so they came and discovered that our upstairs unit, which we don't go upstairs very often so we hadn’t noticed, was running constantly because it was trying to put off heat. All it was doing was putting off air so it never warmed up enough for the heater to shut off. Since the weather had started getting warm, we weren't going to need it anymore. We had people at our house doing the reconstruction on our kitchen and so we decided to put it off until things started cooling off again. We put out a service call. The guy came and figured out what was wrong and got it fixed.
When things break, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to fix with a home warranty. I like being able to just call American Home Shield, pay $75, they come out, and they figure out what's wrong, and they fix it or replace it if it needs to be replaced. It's just that there's a couple of things on our pool that they do not cover and I always wish that they would. Also, they only pay $10 a pound towards Freon When that had completely leaked out, that could be another super expense. It would be nice if they would cover that. Nonetheless, I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. I recommend them all the time.

American Home Shield's price is good, and they have always been responsive with assigning a contractor. So far, I've been happy with the contractors that they've assigned. But I will always look up the reviews of these contractors, and they will have questionable Better Business Bureau reviews. It makes sense though. They go with the cheapest people that they can find.
I have used American Home Shield for a couple of different issues. I had a dishwasher issue that was easy enough to fix. But then there was a plumbing issue and I really got worried about the concept of a home warranty because they would just label stuff as a pre-existing condition. When you get a home warranty, you're not starting it on a brand-new house. It's a very small fraction of people that do.
Anything for the first six months or a year of having their service, they could very easily make that argument. “Well, the problem started before you started as a client of ours.” I had to pay stuff out of pocket that they wouldn't cover. There's also been one ongoing issue with the HVAC at the house, which for a year, there were no issues. Now, it's starting to get older and they keep fixing the same problem instead of wanting to take the plunge to do what needs to be done. Every time I have to call about the same issue, AHS charges me again for the deductible and it ends up costing everybody more money. I still have the service because if and when I have to use them for a large ticket item, hopefully, they'll be more of a help.

It was Sears and as quickly as they could get parts, my dryer was fixed. They met my expectations. Given the current environment with the supply, Sears did it as quickly, efficiently and effectively as they could. Overall, American Home Shield is great. Our hot water tank had a leak underneath it and it wasn't coming from the downspout or the pop-off. So it was somewhere internal. We submitted a claim with AHS and their website was simple. We then got a phone call from them the very next day to set us up with the contractor, McVehil Plumbing. When the tech came out, he took a look at it and got measurements. While he was doing an inspection, he noticed that there was a leak on the outgoing pipe going to our house. So he put that in his notes. He also noted that our water pressure was way too high so he took a look at the regulator coming into the house and he tried to adjust it but it didn't work. So he figured it might have been just rusted wide open or washed out and took a note of that as well.
About a week later, I got a phone call from the contractor saying they were going to come by with the new hot water heater, fix the leaks, and change up the regulator. It took them two hours to totally swap out the old water heater, put in a new one, fix the leak that was supposedly fixed before we moved in, and even replaced the regulator. So they did a outstanding job and since then, everything's been better. Even the hot water is hotter.

American Home Shield is fairly responsive. We had two claims that were fairly close together in the kitchen. The first was the microwave stopped heating. The second was the refrigerator. Though it was still working, it was not reliable. It will cut off periodically then come back on. We had to go two to three weeks without a refrigerator and they agreed to replace the microwave because they couldn't get the part for it. We're having to wait two to three months for the microwave then we chose to go ahead and use the money that they were going to pay to rebuild the major part for the refrigerator and apply it towards a new refrigerator. That's going to take two to three months to get.
American Home Shield paid quickly on the replacement for the microwave. Now we're just waiting on the company to send us the microwave. But my big complaint was communication and consistency. One of them told me that they were all working from home. If I call and talk to customer service or one of the representatives from purchasing or parts, we get different people and they would give me a different story about what I could expect on timelines. One of the things that I had gripe about was because of the problems in ordering, they would not give me the cash in lieu of the part for the refrigerator until I purchase the refrigerator, even though that would take two months. We had to pay money upfront to order the refrigerator and we're still waiting on the check. I sent them the receipt and one of the reps told me that that would be good enough.
My other complaint was charging us a full fee for someone to come out and just look at the model number of the microwave so they could order the part. I could do that and save the $75. They charged me but decided three weeks later that they'd replace it. They got an extra $75 in addition to another month of our regular fee for having them. When I complained, they gave me half of it back but we are considering dropping them because of this experience.

We had a leak under the sink in the kitchen. They came and checked it all out. They resolved it satisfactorily. But we went away and when we came back, there was still a little bit of leak. They had replaced the garbage disposal and fixed a faucet under the sink, the shutoff valve, to make sure that was good, because it was supposedly broken. But there was a tiny little bit of dripping, nothing like it was before. We called back when we came home. They came out again and said it was the old faucet hose, not the original problem. So, we'll end up having that replaced at some point. But it's not really that noticeable.
The peace of mind for me is worth $75 a call, and it's worth whatever we pay AHS per month for the service. Everybody has to decide what they have and what's worth covering. What people do when they're homeowners or new homeowners especially, is they underestimate the cost of maintenance and repair. And until they know how much maintenance and repair calls really cost, when you're at the mercy of the service provider, it's a shock to a lot of people, especially if they’re on a fixed income. There's a lot, but it's worth doing. It may not, dollar-wise, if you don’t like any insurance, if you don’t use it, you’re out the money. But if you would have to use it once or twice, it’s cost-effective.

The toilets and tub were backing up. We used a different home warranty company last year and could not get them on the phone to get it addressed so I paid someone to come in and clean out the lines on my own. The situation presented itself again a few times and All Hours Emergency Plumber came out and diagnosed the problem as being the vent pipes that go out in the ceiling. There's a bend in there somewhere with the possibility that they need to be cleaned out and that's not covered under Home Shield warranty so it will cost me 450 bucks if I decide to get that done.
If only AHS would add something to their plan like a preventative maintenance, even if the customer had to pay 150 or 200 bucks a year, just to have somebody come out and do a health check of the home, like checking the AC, hot water heater, electricity, AC5, the plumbing, those sorts of things, that would be a good idea. It's not something that customers have to do. It’s something they can buy into if they want to do it.

We were having problems with the burners not working right and we had an electrical sound happening with them. AHS sent out a tech and he was saying that there were a couple things that were wrong with it. Also, there were issues with some parts that couldn't be replaced because they couldn't get them anymore. So, we bought a new stove at Home Depot, then AHS is supposed to send us a check for $600 and we're still waiting for that.
We also had an issue with the dishwasher. I called AHS on the phone and ordered for a service. I told them what the issue was and they set it up. And it was fairly reasonably quick to get somebody out here, which was nice. Then, the service person that came out was really good. His name was David and I really liked him. He fixed our dishwasher, though he had to come out a second time because the seal wasn't sitting correctly so it leaked out water on the floor. But he took care of it right away. So far, I'm really happy with AHS. Their customer service has been really good and I like the contractors. They’ve been helpful and trying to do a good job. Each time I call, I get people that don't speak English. I cannot understand them. They cannot understand me. I explained to the lady in detail what was wrong. She didn’t understand me. She sent a plumber down here. The plumber came and said there was nothing wrong with the plumbing. The water comes into the tank good. “But we do not repair steam apparatuses.” The guy reported back to American Home Shield that they did not work on such things as that.
The second time, I called the guy before he came here. He didn't have to come here. I said, "Well, there’s nothing wrong with my air condition. I have a problem with the steam room. The apparatus that produces a steam.” The rep contacted the contractor anyway. So when AHS told me that Outlaw Heating was coming, I called the people. I asked them before they came down here, "Do y'all work?" "No. We do not." I told the man that that wasn't going to happen. We saved the man a trip down here to just tell me he doesn't work on them. The Outlaw people sent a message to AHS saying that comes out of the swimming pool people. They are the ones that install those kind of things. And that's where that stands right now.
American Home Shield has a serious problem with hiring people who can't speak English. They probably get them cheap. But they will end up losing their business. I don't want to talk to people with whom I can't explain the problems. This has been going on since December the 23rd. I can't get anything done with AHS. I've been trying to get the right person down here to work on this unit. If I can't get this unit fixed and if next time I'll talk to somebody who doesn't speak English, I have to change. AHS gave me a new one, which is sitting in my garage, but nobody can come out and put it in. It's a little bit of a mix-up, so I'm a little frustrated right now. But overall, they've been great. And then the socket in the kitchen stopped working because when I plugged in my coffee pot in one socket it sparked. All of a sudden, I had four other outlets go out. DT checked and the tech was going back and forth. He was testing all the outlets in the kitchen. He opened them up and saw the one that had sparked had a loose wire. He fixed that and checked the circuit breaker. Everything's fine now.
I put that claim right before Christmas and the contractor called within the 48 hours that American Home Shield said somebody would reach out. In our recent claim, when we turned on the washing machine, it would start up and run the water, but it was not washing. The gentleman came out and worked on it. He explained it was the agitator that wasn't connecting and he said he fixed it. We started washing a week later and we realized that the machine still wasn’t working properly.
I went to the American Home Shield website and let them know that I needed another assessment. My only problem with the website is it needs to give more options that I can pick instead of just picking the one thing or I can give the opportunity to explain what the situation is. With the washing machine, it was coming on, but it didn't do a certain thing. I could pick this one item and then say, "It comes on, but it doesn't do this," versus my only option, "it doesn't come on". But that really wasn't what the issue was. I called in to clarify because I didn't want my claim to be disputed as I picked the wrong option. They assured me that it wasn't a problem. Then the tech came and fixed it. My experience so far has been great. American Home Shield has always been on point. They take the time to answer my questions when I have them and assure me that my worry is just a worry. We opened up the hot water closet to look for something we thought we had placed in there, and we noticed that the pipes were dripping heavily. So we contacted AHS. They provided Taylor Plumbing. He came out a couple of weeks before Christmas and said that we needed a new hot water tank. It turned out that the old hot water tank was physically smaller than the new standard hot water tanks. My husband had to take off the door, the frame, and part of the wall. Then Taylor came out last week and drained and removed the old one, and put in the new one. He was extremely professional, very nice, friendly and personable.
They had to go get a new drip pan to place underneath the hot water tank because we have wooden floors. He was concerned so much about water that he drilled two holes in the wooden floor into the crawlspace. One for the overflow if it got too hot, and the other for the drainpipes so we will not have any more water in the water closet at all. He did that all on his own. So we were very happy about that. Taylor Plumbing took care of everything. Once we made our initial call, we were emailed updates by AHS. But Taylor did everything. We don't even know how much it cost. He ordered it and he picked it up. We would hire him for a private job if we needed to.

Before Christmas (2021) I put in a service request through AHS, my heater wasn't working (coldest part of the winter too). The service contractor came out about a week later to diagnose the problem and in the process determined I had a crack/hole in the heat exchanger in my gas furnace located on the roof. Immediately the service tech informed me that he was tagging the unit as condemned and he would send in a request for replacement through AHS. Being just before the holidays I knew it would take a little time to get results on the request, and here we are a week later and I find out it was approved (yay!?!?). When I was speaking with the AHS rep about it I was told I had some out of pocket expenses, which I was knew there would be some, consisting of Permits and Crane charges.
Unfortunately that is where the good news ended. During the process I never received a quote for my out of pocket charges, I was informed that the unit was being ordered by AHS and that was it. Finally, today, I received a quote from the contractor and my out of pocket cost is $4,125.00! The breakdown includes much more than just the permit and crane charges I was told I would be responsible for. This is out of my budget, this is the reason I have Home Warranty Insurance so I don't have a big expense like this, but I am being told by AHS that this is my responsibility and that my only other option is to put the replacement on hold and request a cash out quote. It's in the 30s at night, I have no heat other than a couple floor heaters that don't do much and now I am having to figure out how I am going to pay over $4,000 so I can have heating and air.
I am honestly disappointed, the transparency here is lacking, being told one thing but then finding out that was only part of what is reality and that I really have no choice in the matter. To say the least I am very disappointed in this whole thing, I thought better of AHS before this and after the term of my current contract is over I may not even carry home warranty insurance anymore...

I have always had good experiences with American Home Shield over the course of the years that I have had them. But when we ran into this COVID problem, all it takes is one store or one organization to say, "We don't have the part for that", and everybody else follows suit. Five years ago, you could get a stove for $600 or $700. Now, you can’t do that because everything has gone up. They still want to pay only 600 or $700, and the rest you have to come out of your pocket. Well, the purpose of buying American Home Shield insurance is to keep you from doing that. They should keep up with the times. I'm dealing with them right now and this is the best time that they could shine by the simple reason, nobody can find parts for anything. American Home Shield, come on, you can fix that. Bring the cost up a little bit if you can't get the part. Start paying a little bit more.

The garbage disposal was leaking at the bottom and where the electrical cord goes in. It usually takes a couple of days for people to come out, but the tech called me and said he will be out between 8:00 and 12:00 the next day, and 8:30 he was here. He was good. He went on and changed it out, and he was gone. At another time my freezer stopped freezing. I called a refrigerator guy out and he came. He called me the same day, because I put the thing in on a Sunday and he was out the next morning. And I said, "Wow. This is surprising. It usually takes a couple of days before you heard from anybody." He said, "I don't play around with people's food." I like that if stuff breaks in the house, I don't have to come out of pocket so much. It's good. I tried to talk to some of my friends that don't have that kind of coverage and tell them, "Hey, it's good to have."

My stovetop and oven had no fire under it. It was just popping. The sparks were flying. When the techs put the igniter on there that day, and then I went to put some food in the oven, it didn't heat up. I had to call them back. When they came back, it was another tech and he said that it needed a gas valve. It wasn't getting the amount of gas. I put a chicken breast in there and it didn't do anything for about an hour. The fire came on, but everything got no gas. So, they had to order a gas valve. It hadn’t come in yet. Today, I received the cooktop for the stove. They will call me to give me a date that they gotta come and install it.
My refrigerator was also leaking down in my basement. With the refrigerator, the guy that helped me was so nice. They had to replace the refrigerator ‘cause it was outdated. The stove too. I ordered the one that they matched up on the thing. But then the next day, it came back not available. They didn't have it. The rep helped. I was on the phone with him for a while, but he really took me through it. He put me on hold and they kept talking. They got me an e-card for Lowe’s. I got this and they are gonna deliver the refrigerator on the 14th next week. I've been with AHS for some years now and everything's been fine.

Then, when they were taking it all apart to put in the cylinder, another part broke. So, they had to replace the cylinder and something else. I wish the parts didn't take so long to come in, but that can't be helped. Right now, everything is good. Having American Home Shield is more economical.

When we first started with AHS, the service was good. Then we got into a situation where I would have to call for service and I’d be on hold forever. And sometimes I couldn't understand what the reps were saying because they didn't speak English very well and it was very difficult. Now, I've learned that I could go online and request service. And that has made the biggest difference in the world. So now, it's a lot easier and I'm very happy with the company doing what they do and helping when you really need help.
We had a really big mess with our refrigerator and AHS opted to replace it. Then recently, we had Sears come out and they seemed thorough. But when we first started, the service people would call and come right away. And for this claim, I had to wait a little bit. But they were great. Right now, we're in the process of selling our house and I called AHS to find out what I'm supposed to do. They said when we are ready to move, to let them know and they'll cancel the policy. But I want to re-get the warranty again at my new house.

Having a home warranty is for the just in case. It's almost like your health insurance. I'm always on the go and because I don't have time to do the minutiae and intricate details and call a vendor to come out and do XYZ, American Home Shield is a way for me to have some type of maintenance in place to manage when things need to be repaired and maintained. With American Home Shield's customer service, there were times when it had been challenging, but they've put forth some effort and have been attentive to a lot of the feedback given. These past couple times when I needed to use it, they definitely improved, and in my last two cases, I've been pleased with the subcontractors.
The subcontractor that came out for my Samsung dishwasher was professional, courteous and competent in their craft. They quickly diagnosed that there was a part that had to be ordered to repair the dishwasher, and they put everything back the way they found it, even though I couldn't use it until the part came in. Surprisingly, the part came in within a week then they came the following week to schedule to come in to complete the job, and they did great with it. Another subcontractor also came out once before and took a look at the icemaker in my Samsung refrigerator. They were able to tell me what was causing it to repeatedly freeze up and what I needed to check for to make sure that that did not happen.

And today, the electrician came, checked out the vacuum fan and replaced whatever piece in there because it was frozen. And it works fine. It's quiet. He was very nice and helpful. He checked out the fan in the bedroom that was blinking and I was afraid that it might have a short in it. He took care of that. The guy from this one plumbing company is rude, awful and doesn't know what he's talking about. I had to go back and forth with American Home Shield with my payment and to get somebody else out here. I went round and round with them for a long time and spoke to a manager. The big problem that I had with them was that it was a big leak. It ruined my whole kitchen and it took them so long going round and round with this and that. There was even mildew and mold growing because it took them so long to figure this out.
Finally, it got resolved. I told them to write on my account never to send that company out again but they tried two times to send them back in my house when I asked for a plumber. American Home Shield shouldn't use a certain company for anybody if they keep getting complaints on the same person. They should be a little bit more choosy on who they let work for them. Another appliance guy couldn't figure out what was up with my washer even when I videotaped it for him. They kept flooding my garage and I have a room in my garage. That was awful. But all the other ones I've gotten were good.

American Home Shield is pretty clear of reviewing all the plans and what their plans cover. Recently, Edu-tech came out for a 220 outlet for my oven, and it needed to be changed out. The technician was excellent. He showed up when he said he was gonna show up and talked us through what he was doing.
The only issue that I've had, and it's really not necessarily American Home Shield’s problem, was the technician that came out for one of the calls that I had wasn't that great. He did okay on one item which was my oven and it ended up having to be replaced. For the microwave, he just said he couldn't get the microwave down. It's an above-range microwave and he refused to work on it but made the report that he was unable to complete it. They were very hard to get ahold of and wouldn't answer their phone. We were still stuck with a broken microwave. I called multiple times to American Home Shield. I was trying to conduct this claim while I was in New Zealand and my house is in Hawaii. I was trying to explain to the young lady at the call center what the problem was and what the technician didn't do. I asked for a cash-out offer but it never happened.

I've had some issues with AHS this past year. I waited six weeks for a refrigerator part and I shouldn't have waited six weeks for an appliance that I need in the house. It should have been replaced right then. Then, we got the part, it was put in, and we went another full week to still wind up having to replace the refrigerator. They paid for the refrigerator and the rep told me that they would credit my account back $75 because of how long it took to take care of it. They still haven't sent the $75 and I need it. After that, I had an AC issue and AHS sent somebody out. One contractor came out three times and did not fix it. He reported that the coils needed to be cleaned. The coils are clean all the time but they might be bad because of age. AHS sent another contractor back out who said it needed to be replaced.
Also, I don’t think they’re showing customer appreciation if they continue to stick rates up on a customer who has stuck by them for almost 20 years. And they got a terrible issue with speaking to a supervisor. I can never talk to an employee and ask for a supervisor without getting beaten around the bush. I went through some issues here and out of four months, I may have talked to a supervisor twice after waiting for three or four weeks. The people they send out to do the work sometimes are okay but the service that you get from talking to some of the employees that work there is totally ridiculous.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

AHS has been great and they've been really responsive, as far as getting the contractors out here. We had one issue where we had to have the contractor come out repeatedly and there was no push back, so we're very happy. Recently, we had a tech come out and he was fast and professional. He was in and out. He talked to my husband, changed our garbage disposal, and was out of the way.
I submit my claims online and it's super easy, quick, and fast. You just go in the website and say what's broken. Then, it asks you if you're willing to pay the $100 copay and you submit it. After that, you get an email back saying that a contractor has been assigned and who it is. From there, you get a text message saying that the contract is assigned and will be contacting you on such and such date to set up the visit to assess your problem. I would request not to pay the $100 copay but I'm sure they can't get rid of that. Other than that, I'd tell others to get the warranty to save money. It's already paid for itself in repairs and replacements in the things that we've had go bad in our home just in the last three months. So it's worth the money.

The claim took a little longer because of the supply and demand of appliances. American Home Shield doesn't have enough washers and dryers. I wanted to purchase a pedestal, but they didn't have any pedestals. I had one made but they didn't put it on. For the range hood, they needed to approve if I could get another one. However, one of my burners stopped working and it's been less than three months since their contractor did my stove.
The contractors that came in were good. I had one almost two years ago that I had to put a report for because he was very unprofessional. I almost dropped American Home Shield 'cause of that. But the service got a lot better after I sent a survey. I've been a customer for almost the whole time I've owned the house and I have had issues where I kind of say I'm just gonna buy what I need to buy and not deal with it anymore. That was mostly on the air conditioning system. If you're in South Texas, you can't be without air conditioning. I went ahead and bought another system instead of going with American Home Shield because we're going back and forth and they wouldn't cover it. Sometimes you have to put in $600 or $700 for the freon and if it doesn't work, you lose out that money.
American Home Shield doesn't cover expensive high quality appliances though. I had an LG, and they don't cover LG. But they have been good for appliance-related claims. I would order the appliances from them even though it takes longer because if I don't order from them, I'm going to dish out another 300 bucks. That was why I waited on the washer and dryer.

The technician was excellent, efficient, courteous and good. He was very businesslike, did what he had to do and did it good. But he was overwhelmed because he was working on three different appliances at the same time and left the refrigerator undone. He left the defrosting and didn't even tell me that. So, the refrigerator was hot and everything was spoiled. The ice maker was completely frozen and he didn't bother to even check it when he left.
I called Samsung because I didn't know how to make the refrigerator warmer. I had to throw out everything that was in there because everything rotted out in all those hours of it being offline. Samsung told me to press on something and asked if I could see any lights on the panel. They were red and the rep asked me what the temperature was. It was not the right temperature and he said he needed me to check the ice maker. I couldn't get it open so I had to put the phone down and bring out some more towels because I noticed that water was still leaking. When I finally got the ice maker door or compartment open, it was a block of ice all over the place. Samsung said that I had a major issue.
Regarding the light, the rep told me to take out the water filter and open it up. But he never bothered to tell me to close the water hose at the back of the refrigerator and the moment I opened that water purificator, a fountain of water gushed out, until four inches of water came out of the refrigerator onto the floor. I have tile floors but it went underneath the stove. I got every towel that I owned in the house and put it all over the house and in the kitchen. Then, I got my whip back while Samsung was on the phone and they would not leave me.
There was no warranty but they said that it was such a manic thing that they're going to give me a courtesy and they didn't charge me. They sent a technician with a bunch of parts to replace the ice maker. But American Home Shield was supposed to order the seal of the freezer door, which was broken. The guy said he placed an order and I thought it was at the same time he placed the parts for the other things. That one didn't come in and they haven't called me to present to tell me whether the part is in or not. Also, I need to call to find out if my AC system and my garage door opener are covered under this warranty. I don't know that for sure and I need to make a service call for that.

The pump wasn't circulating the water. I put in the claim. American Home Shield had the provider. ABNation came out. It was the very next day. They were able to get the pump going again, with my existing equipment and said if there were any future issues with it, to just call back and they would get contacted again and be taken care of, reevaluated and taken care of. Lo and behold, it happened again a week or so later. I called back into AHS and they contacted ABNation, who was able to come very quickly. They wanted to come the next day, but I wasn't going to be around. So I was okay that they came a couple of days later. They came out and got authorization to replace the motor on the pump. They went ahead and did that quickly. And it seems to be working. So, I'm very happy. Jordan, the gentleman that came, was very courteous, professional, timely, knew what he was talking about and how to get it done. He was terrific.
I've owned my home for a number of years now. Unfortunately, during the past couple of years, I've also had to have to replace a lot of things with just they were at the end of life or they broke. A lot of expensive big ticket things. My fear is that I would have to keep doing that with some other things. And it would be a real problem for me to do that. My brother had been an AHS customer for a while and he suggested it. I had heard about home warranties, but never gave it too much thought. And I just said, "I think this would be a true financial advantage to me to have this kind of program to help me take care of some homeowner needs going forward." And lo and behold, I had another need and it was great. Not only does it cover the expense, but it did the hassle of finding someone to do the work and getting them out there at a timely fashion.
Normally, if you're doing this stuff on your own, putting the cost of it aside, finding someone who's trustworthy and who's going to show up and do it right and not overcharge you, that's a lot of legwork. So, I would have to take time out of my day to do that kind of legwork, which means time away from work or from my family. So, it was a real advantage to me. This can be financially advantageous to you, give you some peace of mind. It's helpful. Just assess what things you would need and talk to the sales rep about which plan would be best for you.

For the most part, it's been all right whenever I file a claim. If it's someone that I've used before and I saw that they did good work, that's who I ask for again. When the water heater went out, I told them right off the bat that I wanted someone that would do a good job. All-American Plumbing came and did that. The guy that did the work was one of their top technicians. Any time I have anything done to my house, I always watch, and we held a casual conversation while he was working.
Then sometimes I don't like the work of the people that AHS sends out. When the motor went out on my AC unit, it was replaced. However, the contractor wasn't so good. Now I'm noticing that my AC unit is very loud on the outside where the fan runs when it wasn't like that before they placed that. But I didn't complain about it and I left it like it was. I just didn't notice until after the job was done for some days. But if that need comes up again, I won't be getting them.
American Home Shield is something good to have. It's just that there's a lot of stuff that I don't understand. When something happens in our home, I always call and ask what's covered and what's not. With the water heater, they said all parts and components were covered, then that means everything. But when they came to install, we had to pay for the replacement of the new pipes and the little white bubble that sits on top, so there was some misleading.

I had a leaky faucet. I put the request in to AHS's website and then it immediately came back and said my claim has been assigned to The Lindsay Company. They called me and the techs were perfect. They put a seal kit in the faucet handle. Everything has worked great so far with AHS. Depending on how much how much work you need around the house, it could be a very good deal. I like that it's very easy to put a request in with American Home Shield. I get contacted by the next day, so that's good. Then the contractors come out three days at most after I get contacted. Recently, American Appliance Repair came out for the washer. Then the error message has come up again, and I put in a request again that it wasn't fixed. I got the system message yesterday that a contractor was assigned. I'm waiting on that one, but it might just be because of the weather. I also got a message that I wasn't going to be charged the deductible. But I didn't know about the 30-day rule.

In my recent claim, the breaker wouldn't stay on. I figured it was the switch itself, and sure enough, it was. The electrician came out and replaced it. It was affecting the dryer, the utility room, and the garage light. Having American Home Shield is good to have for peace of mind. I had gone through three water heaters and it was very hard to come up with 600 or 700 bucks every time.

High Priority Plumbing came out within 24 hours, did the job and everything was great. I did my claim through a service contract I have with American Home Shield. They called me back in an hour and the plumber was here within a few more hours. The guy was great. He identified the problem, isolated it, solved it, kept everything clean and left.
Overall, the experience with AHS is a little bit more complicated. They're okay with the small stuff like plumbing. When it's bigger stuff, major appliances or major repairs, they’re a little bit more challenging to work with. I've been with them for at least a decade. My entire previous house was under AHS and I considered canceling them at one point. I just bought this house, so I'm probably gonna run it for a little while. But when something big breaks, they're really hard to get ahold of. If you've got a place with a lot of little things that you know are going to fail, it's a great idea. If you're worried about replacing or repairing major appliances, they will ultimately tell you that you need to replace something but they may not cover it to the value of which you're going to need it replaced.

Our furnace went down and the tech came and figured it out within a half hour. He then traveled about an hour away to get the parts and came back and got it going up that day.

I filed a claim for my laundry but it was a simple fix. The techs caught something that was there before that was leaking as well. Recently, the furnace stopped heating up after a certain temperature. It would just shut off and I would have to restart the AC and do it again. AHS set an appointment right away for me but it took Doctor Cool a while to get to my house. They had to come three separate times. The first time, they changed the motherboard and that wasn't the problem. The second time, they adjusted some things but that wasn't it either. The third time, they redid the motor and the furnace has been working since.
AHS should partner up with somebody else because Doctor Cool had to come up three times. We didn't have the furnace for two days. AHS doesn't have overnight service. If they're going to warranty for something like the heater, AC or flood issues, they should always have overnight service.

So far every vendor I've dealt with has been very nice, professional and on time. I recommend everyone to get AHS.

Updated on 01/13/2022: This is a continuation of a previous review, Leaking Toilets. Neither the contracted plumber Rooter King (first one) nor the (second plumber) Supreme Plumbing have completed any work on the 3 leaking toilets approved for repair. Multiple calls to AHS customer service and no resolution. Stacy replied on the previous review for this issue and stated AHS would be contacting me, no contact... disgusted!
Original Review: The issue was three leaking toilets. These folks came out, assessed the situation, looked at them, said they would have to order parts. They supposedly went to their vendors to order the parts. Two weeks later, came back and took one of them apart to take the parts with them to the vendor. Because they said, “Well, I don’t know what the vendor ordered, and the vendor’s having a hard time getting what they needed. So, we have to compare it.” So instead of a picture, they decided to take it physically over there.
They came back half a day later. The tech said, “Yeah, they don't have these parts.” I said, “Well, shouldn't we have known that two weeks ago?" And he said, “Yeah. Unfortunately, they ordered the wrong stuff.” “Okay. So now, how do we get it repaired?” He said, “Well, they're not going to be able to match this part.” I said, “Okay. So how do we get it repaired?” He said, “Well, we'll just replace the flushing mechanism itself to a regular flushing mechanism that KOHLER has on there, if that's okay with you?” I said, “Yes, that's fine.”
He said, “We will need to contact American Home Shield and let them know that we're going to just switch those out. It’s probably cheaper anyway, because we don't have to go through this entire mechanism that you have here that was installed in the first place.” Because that's what came with the toilets, what they call the rapid flush system. It really isn't. It's just a home, fancy look to it. But they left. After they left, they never came back. So a week later, I called him. He said, “Yeah, we're not going to be able to repair it because you had all that stuff installed after you did the toilets, and that's not part of our contract. Our contract says that we only replaced original parts. And we couldn't find the parts, so we don't know what it needs. Well, we got paid our 75 to assess it.” That’s it. And he hung up on me.
I called AHS. They said, “I can't believe that you guys paid for this.” I still got charged for the service call, because they decided to go ahead and close it. AHS shouldn't have. But I understand that they were going by what the plumber reported. But the plumber reported that they could not repair the part. So instead of contacting me, they went ahead and paid the plumber, and never said a word to me at all. I always got the, “We will call you for sure in the next 48 hours to let you know what's going on,” I never got a call back. I hate the way it sounds because that doesn't mean that someone can’t still do their job. If they did their job, then that means they would follow up with me, “I'm sorry, but they're not going to be able to repair it,” or, “They're reporting this. Is that the case?” “Well, no, that's not the case.” But it's always communication overseas. So the unfortunate part is that it's not a local situation, and it's not something that I could manage.
It's obvious. Those toilets were all installed in 2008. So, almost 14 years ago. The mechanisms were in there that long. Unfortunately, they all failed at the same time. All of a sudden, they're all running. And it's like, “Okay, can someone just come out and check them and see if we can repair them?” “Sure, we can repair them.” Then, nothing.
We got a second plumber that came out, did a good assessment on it and said, “Yeah, we can repair that. That's not a problem. Let me go back to them, let them know what they need.” And I'm hoping that the second plumber is going to do the job. He seemed to know what he was doing and understood common sense. So hopefully, that's where we're headed. But so far, I haven't heard back from AHS on whether they approved it or not. And I haven't heard from the plumber whether AHS approved it or not. But I'm sitting here waiting for the last four weeks on trying to get repaired of three leaky toilets.

I've only had to use American Home Shield once, but it worked out well. I had a problem finding someone who could do it in the timeframe that was available. But AHS was able to find me a vendor who could come to my home, and he did. He found what he thought the problem was. So, he left. He said, “I will get the part and I will come back as soon as possible.” He called me on Thanksgiving morning to say, “I have your part. Do you want me to put it in?” “Yes, I do. It’s Thanksgiving.” He said, “It won’t take long. I’ll have it ready for you.” He came, and he was in and out in 20 minutes. So polite.
I recommended AHS to someone yesterday. There are things we worry about. We got a home, a kid, a job, now we got to worry about finding someone to fix our appliances. I said, “If you can find someone to just do that little part and get somebody good in there, that would be worth it.” Plus, the monthly premium is not high, and AHS offers so much.

They came out the Monday after Christmas, because the owner of the company called me the day after Christmas on the 26th. I was shocked. I've heard they did no calls because nobody works over the Christmas holidays. He said, "Are you gonna be home tomorrow, Monday, the 27th?" I said, "Sure." They said, "We'll be there between 8:00 and 10:00." They showed up at five minutes to 9:00. The toilet was leaking around the base, so they had to replace the seal. They didn't have the kind that would work. It wasn't the right size. So, they went to someplace to get a seal, brought it back, and they were gone by five minutes to 10:00. American Home Shield sent All Brand Appliance Repair and they fixed my dishwasher, my freezer, my refrigerator and my washing machine. The freezer was making some kind of weird noise. Some kind of fan was out of place, so the tech fixed that. Then, the motor part on the bottom of the refrigerator was shot. So, he cleaned all that and he replaced that part. It runs like a champ now. The dishwasher needed a new motor and some kind of sump pump thing. He fixed that. Then, the washing machine got everything new, part wise, in it from the ground up. He just rebuilt the whole thing instead of replacing it. The tech's name was Will. He's awesome. If I can have somebody come out, I'd request him. The only problem I have with AHS is each year, the monthly charge goes up. So, if you can pay for the whole thing up front, I would do that. We had a garbage disposal and a kitchen faucet that needed repair. The first contractor AHS assigned to us here in the Los Angeles area made an appointment. Then, he called up that day and canceled. He said they're too busy and made another appointment. I called AHS to complain and they sent another contractor. The contractor called and said they'd be out. Then, they brought out the garbage disposal and fixed the sink. But the first garbage disposal they hooked up didn't work so they had to go get another one, which we did right then. The tech went somewhere and brought another one out. They hooked it up and everything's fine. Also, the faucet no longer leaks. It took a while but we were happy with this claim eventually.
Then, our stove wasn't working and I called AHS. I told them the pilot light is on but the oven doesn't light up. They sent some guy out and he looked at it. He wasn't sure if they could get parts for the stove and said he'd get back to me. They finally called four or five days later and said they couldn't find the parts for it. They gave the dollar value for a new stove, an equivalent and we went looked at the new stove that they had authorized but it didn't fit in the space. It was too small.
I checked around locally and I found a guy that repairs old vintage stoves and refrigerators. He came out the next morning and fixed everything. $1,200 was the credit for a new stove and his bill was 700 and something. I called AHS to get the 1,200 or at least enough to cover the repair that AHS's contractor didn't have a clue how to do. But they wouldn't cover it. They said it's not their policy. I asked to speak to a manager and they said a supervisor would call me within 24 hours. that was last year. I'm not real happy with American Home Shield. My wife and I are thinking about canceling our contract.

The contractor knew what they were doing and were timely.
AHS is great. If I've had issues, they've came through and got it fixed. Any questions I had, they were able to answer. The only time I had an issue was when I did a service order for my water heater. At that time, I didn't know I could request somebody. They sent somebody out there, and I didn't like him. I called them back and told them not to ever send that company and they made notes. They went through their way to make sure that if I didn't request a specific person, they wouldn't send that company out.

We purchased a house about a year ago and we didn't know what was under the plumbing. A lot of our drainage was really slow and we snaked it as much as we could for ourselves thinking we took care of it. But we noticed that our plumbing was still a little slow. We submitted a claim with AHS and the tech went in and snaked it as far as he could go. There was a lot of buildup and he unclogged our drains. He was wonderful, friendly, and kind. He did what he had to do and it was a rainy day, so he even put shoe covers on once he came in. So it was amazing and he was better than the last technician that visited for the problem with the shower handle. We had some leakage there and he was charging us a lot of money to get it done. We paid him to come for the services then we had a letter sent over that it would be more.
That was a big fee and we felt like he was going in circles. We asked him if it was repairable or not and he said he had to come back. He had to purchase some stuff he didn't have in his truck, so that took a long time. We decided to go to Home Depot, buy some things, and try them out. Then we ended up taking care of the problem ourselves.
We also had a technician come in when we first moved in who replaced the sealant in one of our toilets because the water was coming from under the toilet. He told me that the sealant was not good, so he doubled up the wax seal on the toilet. I thought that was fantastic and that we'd never have an issue. But just before Christmas this last year, the toilet started draining from the bottom again. We noticed that the bolt was off and the toilet seat was rocking. And it's a private bathroom, so we know it's not us.
So we were going to call to get that checked, but we had people coming over for Christmas and this was two days before Christmas. So I felt bad and we thought we'd fix it ourselves. We called a friend of ours who's a a certified plumber and a contractor. He came out, saw the issue, and had to change a bolt. He said the sealant was fine but the bolt was just out of place, old, and rusted. So he put in a new sealant and new bolts in it. And he only charged us 75 for the whole thing. All in all, we're enjoying American Home Shield because it’s a quick service. Not only are they taking care of plumbing, if ever something happens to my roof or electrical work, I can call them. I have a lot of plumber and electric friends but not a roofing company that I can call. And I added that in my service, that in case of a leakage or anything on my roof, AHS would come through for us. So, I appreciate that and I'm not going to change my services.

An hour or so after I submitted a claim through the American Home Shield website, I got a text message acknowledging my submission there. Then immediately, maybe an hour after that, I got another text message saying that it's been assigned to AH Appliances Repair. What happened was they didn't come out immediately. The repair person called me, and he said he wanted to do an online diagnosis. I said okay. Then he sent another link, which when I clicked on that link, it enabled a video on my phone that he was able to see. He asked me to turn it on and then show him what exactly was happening.
He diagnosed the problem. He said, “Okay, the motor is gone. We need to replace it. It might take a week or so.” He said that he would call me the moment he received the part. A couple of days later, he called and said, “I received the part. I'm in the neighborhood. Can I come and fix it?” I was not at home that time, so I told him. He said, “No problem. Give me a time and I can come and fix it.” He did come out and he fixed it. He did a very good job. Overall, the experience was good, but the kudos should go to the repair person.

When AHS figured out that the other company couldn't do that, they sent somebody out the same day that that guy came out and said he couldn't do it. The new guy was very helpful and made sure I knew how to access the furnace. He even looked at the filters that I have to change out and made sure that I knew what size they were, how to put them in and how to take them out. So, that was awesome.
