AHS is pretty responsive and I get my issue sorted out pretty quickly. It's overall been a pleasant experience and it's easy to use the website and make a claim. My most recent claim was something was causing a backup into the showers and toilets. Before I moved in, I had them snaked because everything was slow draining but I've had both bathrooms flooded since then. F6 Plumbing called me and I explained the issue to them. They had someone meet out with me on the property. They texted me before they got there. They were nice and friendly and they explained everything pretty well. They snaked the drain to try to remove any potential blockages but as it is reoccurring, they suggested I get a camera scope as my next step. They can't do anything further, according to them, until they get a camera into the pipes. They said the pipes are pretty old so there may be an issue somewhere down the main line that they're not able to reach.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

American Home Shield advertises services outside of the warranty. Six to nine months ago, I arranged for someone to come do an air conditioning and heating service. That was $75 to do that. The guy came and looked at the AC condenser outside but he didn't go up in the attic to look at the heating unit. I called American Home Shield and complained, was told that I would be reimbursed the $75 and I never received it.
The contractors have not been the best. The majority of them are non-American. I have no bias against anyone as long as they do a good job, but they are abrupt. Half the time they don't answer your questions when you ask what's going on with whatever they're here to do. I even had one plumbing vendor that wanted a good rating. He said, "You should receive a survey." I said, "Okay." He said, "Well, get your phone and pull up the survey." I did that, and he said, "Well, can I see your phone?" He gave himself the rating and didn't even allow me to do it. He was also very arrogant and condescending while he was here managing the plumbing issue. Find another home warranty company. My sister and I are in the process of doing that right now.

Having the warranty is fantastic. But I had some issues with getting the contractor notification sent over. They notified the contractor that they were assigned my ticket and it took a little while for them to send over the paperwork so that the contractor can go ahead and get started on scheduling me for service. But once we got over that challenge, everything else was pretty smooth. My AC wasn't working and they helped expedite the process because I have an infant. The techs who came out were fine and resolved the issue on the same day.

I called around to find out how much the coverage would cost to cover certain things in my house, especially my appliances. American Home Shield had different levels of pay you could use for whatever issues you wanted. I picked the package I needed. I used the service when my ceiling fan wasn't working. Also, my other fans would not work. My bedroom fan was not working no matter what I did. Another bedroom fan had a light that would not work. It was making a lot of noise and shaking. I called the insurance company and they were the ones that picked a service company. DT Electric called me to schedule the appointment. I knew their tech was coming in a truck. He came in a truck with the logo on it.
The guy that came checked the first fan and he said it was a remote up inside of the hub of the fan. He went in there, pulled it out, and replaced it. For the other fan, he shook the ceiling fan and the light switch that would not work started working. I showed him the bulb and he did something. It's been good since. I'm very happy. I told American Home Shield I wanted that same guy back and they sent him back. He was very quick with his work.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.
We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

I had a pipe burst downstairs. The claims process went pretty smoothly. I've had other experiences with American Home Shield, but this was one of the better ones. The first claim I've done took two weeks to get someone out to my house to fix the AC. They said that they don’t have anybody. That was the only time that happened. But American Home Shield could get contractors on the weekend. Also, I would like to see the detailed receipts of what they covered versus what I paid. Otherwise, it just said it's paid and that the job is done.

We have had a policy with American Home Shield for close to 15 years. We have gone several years without needing any service at all and then we've had a couple of situations where we've had to fight to get something done. Our biggest issue with them is the timeliness. But there's usually someone assigned to the repair, and then they come out and make an assessment. I messed with a dishwasher for five months. I also had a situation with a washer recently. The guy said, “Well, I'm gonna write up something. I think it's gonna have to be replaced.” I just went out and bought another one because I did not want to mess with American Home Shield to wait on the paperwork. When they finally got the bid thing, I just said I wanted a cash out. So they offered me a portion of what I replaced.
The AC wasn’t cooling and Oasis came out to my house that I live in. We paid the extra to have the Freon installed, and then they had to come out for a damper also. When we had an issue with the washing machine, the guy came out and did an assessment. He said, “I am moving out of state and will no longer be an AHS provider. And so I thought I could fix it, but I can't. They're going to have to order a part.” American Home Shield messed with him for three weeks, trying to get something from him. Every time I called, I was on the phone for hours at a time. Every time I talked to somebody, I had to explain the whole situation again. They would have to escalate it to a supervisor, but the supervisor would never call us back and then we'd have to start again. I started slamming them on Twitter and got somebody to respond. But otherwise, we've had great response from American Home Shield. We've always been able to get the issues resolved.

The guy from Air Doc came out, he looked at the problem, and he left. He did what he was supposed to do. The air conditioning wasn't working. What happened was, I had put a new part on it the day before he came. The part that I put on there was the part that was bad. So when he got there, he just looked at it and said everything was good. He pumped some water out and cut a wire. I like that American Home Shield responded to the claim.

American Home Shield is generally easy to work or deal with and there's easy access. I've had them for the last three years now and they're responsive. They have been able to get me what I needed. They are very timely and I am able to get people to talk to me. If I log a request, immediately I get assigned to someone. Initially, American Home Shield had some vendors that didn't work well for me. But they were able to change after I asked. When I had issue with the refrigerator that was leaking at the back and the fan stopped working, techs came. It continued for more than a month because the actual problem could not be detected accurately. Initially, they tried to fix the pump or a leakage there. It took a few times but they were able to resolve the issue.

The microwave wasn't heating. The tech did a video assessment and he thought the problem was the magnetron. But when he physically checked the unit, there was a fuse that had blown. He tested a bunch of other things and once he replaced the fuse, there was nothing electrically that he could tell was wrong. It was heating at that point. So he did not replace the magnetron.
Two days after he left, the microwave stopped working again. We contacted AHS and he came back out. Something was causing the fuse to pop and he found that the motherboard was extremely hot. It looked like it had burn marks on it. He replaced that last Saturday and so far, the microwave has been working. Having AHS is convenient. I pay my monthly premium and a flat fee and everything is covered in my house. I don't have to go search for different repair people to fix something if I have a problem.

The kitchen sink was stopped up. It was a very slow drain. I sewnt in the claim and also added a few smaller things on there. The guy came out and he fixed the smaller things. He tried to fix the clog but he couldn't. He said that someone would have to come out with a different attachment for the tool that they have because he only had one attachment, and they could get it out. I was happy with that. If I gotta wait for someone else to come out, that's typical. But then I get a notification that the claim was denied and that American Home Shield won’t pay to fix it. Pipe Solutions wanted $400 to come out and clean it. The plumber said in the report that there was a foreign object. I called AHS multiple times, trying to figure out what exactly that meant. Because there's nothing except a foreign object that could cause a clog. If there's not something in there, it's not going to clog. So I was confused on that.
The first two people hung up on me. The third person said that they would have Pipe Solutions send someone else out. The fourth person said that nothing like that was on the notes. So that person just lied to me. The first person said she can have someone else come out. But if they determine it’s a foreign object, it will not only cost $100, but I’ll have to pay the other costs to get it out. I’m pouring chemicals down there hoping to try and fix it because AHS won’t cover it. I was told that the only types of clogs covered are mold, mildew, and algae. But as far as I can tell, clogs are not covered by AHS, which is frustrating. So my experience was very poor. But the initial plumber was good. He seemed to know what he was doing. He was kind and professional. The woman I talked to at AHS seemed kind of frustrated to talk to me. I may have been frustrated as well. So I can't blame her too much for that.

Years and years ago at a different house, I had American Home Shield. And I did not like them at that time. No matter what was wrong, they found some reason to say they didn't cover it. I gave up on them. But on this house, the service has been really good and AHS has been really easy to deal with. It takes a day or two to get somebody to fix something. Their technicians are all well-groomed and pleasant to talk to.
Recently, water was gathering at the bottom of our refrigerator and its ice maker wouldn't work. The tech thought he had both problems fixed. When he left we discovered the ice maker still wasn't working right. They came back out to fix that. We're still waiting on some parts for the fridge.

I have an active claim for my air conditioning. The techs took out the coils and the compressor on the outside. They are attempting to repair them because there is a leak. But they determined that the repair isn't holding and they said that I have until Sunday to continue to try. It's more than likely it won't hold so they've already scheduled an appointment for Monday for installation for the technician to create a quote.
Repairs through AHS have been excellent except for when I used one of their services where the technician came to do a check on my air conditioning. He didn't know what he was doing and he shorted out the unit. They didn't repair or replace it. They told me it was not repairable and I had to buy an entirely new unit from Home Depot. And then I had to pay $1,800 to have it installed. That was very upsetting because the person that they sent out damaged the unit.
AHS continued to say that parts were requested and the parts were never delivered. They sent out several different companies to check. The final company that came said, "Oh, it's not repairable." And they denied my claim, didn't replace the unit, and didn't offer any information. But I still kept them as my home warranty. The technicians they have on their roster are really good and appointments are usually the next day. I've even had a same-day appointment if I request first thing in the morning.

I purchased a home for my mother-in-law and as part of the sale, was given American Home Shield. My mother-in-law used it and it was really good and quick, so I decided to purchase one because my home was 20 years old. I was hoping I wouldn't have to use it. But the AC started leaking so I had to. I made a claim for it on a Sunday and a tech came out on Tuesday. He tried to blow it out but it didn't work. He came the next day because the unit was still leaking. Come to find out the leak was in the tray. The holes were clogged up at the top of the AC and not in the P-trap.
Techs actually came out again two or three weeks later because I had a bad clog in my kitchen. We couldn't use our kitchen sink and couldn't wash dishes. I couldn't run my dishwasher for a few days. I had to call the home warranty again, which I hated doing. That service took a day to get scheduled. The techs that came fixed that. I’m pleased with American Home Shield. After service is done, I am asked, “How happy are you? Can you please review?” American Home Shield is on top of wanting to have good service and wanting to know if the contractors they use are good. It's a legitimate deal.

I called American Home Shield and told them the dryer wasn't heating. The board had burned up. The first guy that came out was very nice. He figured out what the problem was and was gone in 10 minutes. He said, “We will order the parts, and we will come back.” I called American Home Shield when the first part came. They informed me that there was a second part. When that second part had arrived, I called American Home Shield back to set up an appointment. In between that period of time, through FedEx Tracking, they were able to track that that part would be here on Saturday. It arrived on that day. American Home Shield was able to send somebody out the beginning of the following week. The second guy that came out was very knowledgeable also. He fixed the dryer. He went a step further to clean out the exhaust that goes up to the roof of our home. That was additional $80 charge for him do that which was worth it.
We've used American Home Shield’s services before. It's usually very seamless. If we have any questions, I pick up the phone, call them and they take care of that. We used them during the first year we had them for the hot water tank, which was no cost to us. Having them seemed a very good investment so we have continued to renew them.

I had a claim with an appliance and that was not a good experience. I had a washer and dryer that was outdoors and I did not know that AHS did not cover things that were outdoors. The tech wasn't very friendly about it. He said that they couldn't touch the machine but he looked at it. I said, "Well, maybe American Home Shield will cover it. Can you let me know?" He said, "Well, I had to talk to American Home Shield and see if they will cover that." I waited for him for two weeks but he did not call back. I tried to call but he never took my calls. That was rude. He could have called to say, "Sorry. I'm not coming back to fix that” or “I don't want to fix that." But he just stopped communicating. I have asked to not have that tech back and I don't want him near my other appliances.
Otherwise, AHS has been fine. I had a wonderful claim experience and I've been very happy with them. I had a wire that was burning in my box and the process was a day or two.

I had two situations that occurred in 45 days period of time. The first time, the AC unit was freezing up. A technician came out and said the outside fan needed to be cleaned. They did that. Then we had some water leakage coming from the furnace. The pipe was clogged. The technician had to open that up, and they fixed it there. The concern I had was I had to pay twice for that service. They sent out two different companies versus the one that was recently out. I wasn't pleased with that part, that I had to pay the fee twice because it was just a bit over the 30 days coverage. If the guy was out the first time, he should have noticed that and should have cleaned out the pipe. Other than that, I’ve been pleased with American Home Shield. I had a claim for my hot water heater. The rep was fine but I didn't understand what the problem was. There was a warranty that was on the hot water heater. I explained to them that the warranty wasn't mine. It was the homeowner that had the house before me. It wasn't fair that there were all kinds of issues when it's time to pay up if I'm paying every month for AHS. I ended up paying $870 out of pocket anyway. Also, the plumber was expensive and he wanted $980. I was very dissatisfied with that.
I had one other issue that they fixed though and it was the microwave over the oven. But it wasn't $100 to fix that little microwave thing. AHS should honor what they say. They told me I would pay $100 out of pocket and that's all. But I'm out almost a thousand dollars. If my issue is something major, I might as well get it fixed myself.

We had an issue with an air conditioning overflow pan that was pumping a lot of water out. The techs found that there was a blockage in the drain pan and that it went down to the main plumbing section. They were fantastic. It was two team members. We had to have them come back because there was some continued blockage further down the line, but they came back very quickly and got it taken care of. Overall, AHS is good for a rental but at the same time, they are very hard to deal with when it comes to larger appliances. In larger appliances, there’s always a lot of pushback. Anytime there’s a larger appliance that is questioned, i.e. an existing unit, the answer for any insurance program is the initial claims are always a no. It takes some serious calls and battling. I have had to experience that several times. So, it’s the larger appliances that they’re really not too happy with when it comes to replacement.

The air conditioner was leaking and it's installed above a hot water heater. So, the leak was coming down on top of the hot water heater underneath. It's in a tenant-occupied condo, and the tenant told me first that the hot water heater was leaking, but it turned out to be the air conditioner. It was Friday that I asked American Home Shield for an appointment, and they came out yesterday. Beaches have been out a couple of times. The first time that AHS assigned Beaches, it took a long time for Beaches to come out. My tenant wound up calling another company. That cost me a lot of money because I didn’t have the home warranty. They installed a new air conditioner, so it wound up costing me $5,000 or more. It was busy though, and I’m sure they couldn’t make it and my tenant wouldn’t wait at that time. The air conditioners always die when you need them the most.
At that particular time, I was not satisfied and I let American Home Shield know. I’ve also been dealing with home warranty companies for a long time, and I know that they make a contract with different providers, but they don’t have enough providers most of the time. This time, everything was much better. The response is much better. The tech helped us solve the problem that the company that came out to do the hot water heater didn’t solve. They went away without putting a cover on the electrical wiring on the top of the hot water heater. So, The AC drips down on top of the water heater, and there’s a chance that that could be a problem. Water and electricity don't get along very well. As far as AHS, I’m very happy. They did a claim on my house where they installed a part on my air conditioner, and it was an expensive part. That didn’t cost me anything but the service call. So, that was really nice. The techs came out right away, too.

But now, the policy is like $900 and then I'm paying a $75 fee and then considering the fact that there's $1,500 worth of coverage in certain areas, it's almost as if you have to have something go wrong in order for the policy to provide the value that you're paying for. But overall, the policy is good.
The condensation line in the central air was backed up and the trip mechanism that would detect if the overflow pan was full hit the wall so water leaked onto my ceiling. I submitted the claim online and I was given the contractor's name and phone number. I was also told that someone was going to contact me within 48 hours. J.G. Services contacted me earlier than that. Then, they came out and they were professional and courteous. They explained to me what the issue was and they solved it.

Their guy was out within 24 hours and it was on a weekend. The AC was all frozen up and there was nothing he could do. He gave me his personal number. We shut off the unit and let it all thaw out. I then called the techs and he personally came back again and checked everything once it was thawed out. He filled the unit up with Freon and everything has been working fine since. I’ve had things happen this year that I didn't expect. But everything was either fixed or AHS provided me some funds to fix it however way I wanted to. My washing machine went out recently and they gave me $450 to replace it. If I wanted to upgrade, I could. I just upgraded, paid the extra $400, and got an $850 washing machine. Recently, the wire had shorted out in the capacitor of the AC. They replaced that and showed me where it burned out and put in a new one. Everything's been fine since. The tech also didn't try to oversell me anything. He showed me what the problem was. The guy was like, “Here you go. Fixed it.”

I've had two different claims, and the vendors who have come have been excellent. It’s the dealings with AHS that haven't been the best. Their customer service is not up to par. It’s a hassle just to get a minor claim submitted. It's almost like they're fighting against the customer. I didn't think it would be so difficult just to get things checked and repaired. I called with questions, and no one called back to answer my questions. Every time I call, it’s a long process just to get an answer. I don’t like them. I know that I would still have to pay if I cancel the contract, so I'm just waiting till the contract ends so that I can find a new home warranty company.

However, the contractor couldn't break my garbage disposal free. They had to replace a part. But the tech was good and very professional. In and out. He did it for an hour. American Home Shield is prompt but they don’t have the greatest companies that come out to your home to cover the services on our appliances. We've had AHS for many years and we've also had it not just for our home, but both our properties that we have. They've been good about responding and this is the first time we've had an issue. We were told that our appliance wasn't good anymore and that we would have to replace it. We never had to have an appliance replaced before. I had to keep calling to find out what was going on with our washer. Meanwhile, we did not have a washer and no one ever got back to me from American Home Shield. They have all my contact information. Then when I call, I have to sit and wait for 30 minutes to get somebody or to even get a response. And it's like starting all over again, explaining the situation. The reps are reading me the notes that they're seeing and there's a little bit of a language barrier at times.
I'm very shocked that a lot of the customer service is outsourced. Every time, it's not a good connection. I've gotten cut off, disconnected and I had to start all over again. So I'm debating whether it's worth staying with American Home Shield or not and maybe finding another company that's within our country. The service might be better. It's very discouraging and very disappointing to have that. Also, we've been with AHS for years and no one told us that rates were going up. The communication is terrible within American Home Shield. The refrigerator had been making noise for a while. On the day I made the claim, it quit cooling. The freezer part is fine, but the lower part had quit working. It took two weeks to get somebody to come out. He determined that the fan had went bad in it. The cooling fan pulled the cooler from the freezer into the refrigerator itself. They ordered the part. The part came and was delivered to my residence. It was approximately two weeks after that that they sent another repair technician out to put the new part in. I had to utilize a spare refrigerator for five weeks which was ridiculous. But they were both nice guys. One guy was from North Carolina and another guy was from Giles County.
My garage door still isn't fixed. A contractor came and put a new motor in it, but that didn't take care of it. The guy that did it was incompetent that's why I haven't called anybody. He could hardly get up or down the ladder. I'm all for older people working, but that dude did not have any business climbing around on ladders. I wound up having to do the majority of the work myself. There's a garage door company here locally that can come out and fix it and I'm gonna wind up having to pay for it. If I run another claim through American Home Shield, they're gonna try to send that guy back out from Timberline Construction, and he can't do it. Updated on 12/05/2022: Contacted AHS on Nov 23 to report the failure of a capacitor the company had replaced only two months. This affected our pool heater and pump. Dispatch #**. No vendor has contacted us yet to schedule a visit. The system indicates “Pacific Pool has been assigned but that they have not succeeding contacting us.” This is not true. I spoke to the contractor three times:
- Nov 29: contacted contractor again to rescheduled for Nov 30. Contractor did not show again and failed to call to cancel again.
- Dec 1: contacted contractor again. They claim they could not come until Dec 5 and indicated they would contact AHS to have another vendor assigned. I have escalated the issue and was told on Dec 1st that Pacific Pool would come to the house on Dec 5. No one called. No one showed up.
- Pacific pools indicate that they are not the vendor assigned for the job.
- AHS representative Jen indicated that nothing had been escalated and that whoever I spoke to on Dec 1 lied about setting an appointment for Monday. I was told by Jen that no manager or escalation team member was available.
This is probably a great example of a complete failure to respond to a work order or provide a service. I am hoping all calls have been recorded as each representative has carefully hang up before the survey is transferred to rate their service. Please contact us at ** to indicate next steps as our pool is being damaged for not having a working pump for almost two weeks now. This summarises well the quality of the service AHS is providing to its customers.
Original Review: Requested two work orders: pool pump and dishwasher/dryer. PURE POOLS came on Aug 2nd: it took several visits for the repair to be done and the job was finally completed on September 7. Reused parts used that didn't work properly putting the condition of our pool at risk during the period. ACTIVE APPLIANCES SERVICE assigned for the other two appliances. After a 5 minute visit technician reported that there was no issue with our dishwasher and that we damaged the dryer. We had to hire a technician on our own to repair the dishwasher and will have to do the same with the dryer. Honestly don't see the value of spending one more penny in a worthless home warranty service. Technicians hired are as inept as the customer service provided by AHS.

When the guy came out for the air conditioning, I wasn't a big fan of him. Any time I had questions, he shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know. I'm not here about that.” I would be like, “Dude, you're not helping out here.” I told the company and they were like, “Oh, we're reading his notes and this doesn't make any sense.” I had issues with the AC but that was more a personality conflict as opposed to the company itself. They were very helpful. When I talked to people, they were great and helpful. The ac is working but not efficiently. And my dissatisfaction for the first time he came out was, “We can do nothing, or you can completely replace the unit.” And I was like, “So you're telling me there's nothing in between that you can do?” That was when I called the company and said, “Come on. If it's not working efficiently, what can we do to Band-Aid it until there’s absolutely nothing wrong."
I don’t have money for a brand new unit. When he came back out, he explained it better to me that because they made an addition on my house before I bought it, the unit is not big enough to cover that extra square footage. It would have to be a bigger unit. They didn’t offer that, but I said if they told me about that the first go around, I would have understood better. I will keep American Home Shield now and make sure that I renew it if need be. Because most recently, I had my washing machine quit filling with water. I went to my account online and put in a claim that way. That's my favorite because it's quick and easy and I don't have to be on hold and wait for somebody to talk to. The tech got ahold of me quickly. He was nice and seemed knowledgeable. Easy to talk to. He had to come out four different times and try different things. He had to wait for a part and then reschedule to come back, it's taken a while, which is nobody’s fault. But it still didn’t end up working. So, we're getting a replacement. If I didn't have AHS, that would have cost a ton of money.

The first time we needed to put in a claim was the first summer we were here, which was 2020, about the air conditioning. It took a very long time to get someone out and three people before it was resolved. But all in all, we've been very satisfied. I appreciate the reminders for the furnace and the HVAC system, to have those every spring and fall.
More recently, the first choice contractor said they couldn't get to it until a few weeks later. And I said, "No, we've got a leak. I don't know what it is and I'm 76 years old. I don't know about this stuff." So, American Home Shield said, "We're going to go to the second contractor," and that was One Stop and the tech came out the next day. Initially, there was a leak from a hose in the back of the refrigerator. It's the water line that goes into the ice maker. The tech had a hard time finding where the leak was. But he said he knew what it was and he had to go to the hardware store to get a piece and make another call, and he would come back later with the piece and fix it, which he did.
We had not used the cold water until last night. And when I went to use the cold water dispenser, it was like the leak had never been fixed. So, when the gentleman came out this morning to look at it, he said, "The leak is lower." It's an inch below where he put the patch the last time. So, I'm wondering if he put it in the right place. Unfortunately, we hadn't used the cold water. We had some people for dinner last night and I went to fill up the water glasses and water went all over the kitchen from the hose. So, the gentleman said, "It's a new leak. So, we have to order a hose." Other than that, I would recommend AHS.

The contractor came out and declared the dishwasher could not be fixed because of all the computer boards in it. The only complaint I had was the people who delivered it could not hook it up. So it was silly that they wouldn't even unhook the other one. They said something about it was hardwired and they couldn't unhook it and take it away. So, I ended up hiring a contractor to come in and unhook the other one, take it away and hook up the new one. So, I ended up spending $300. But American Home Shield did replace the dishwasher and the contractor did very well with that.

I have had American Home Shield for over 20 years. We had to have three contractors and that's crazy. They should have first thought about who's the right contractor to fix it. So, their service is becoming a hit-and-miss. They just send anybody. Something isn't as good as it used to be. Some guys were good. The last guy who came found a leak and fixed it. I have recommended American Home Shield to people before, but now I don't say anything. I like them so far, even though they could improve. They were better before. For the most part, I like AHS a lot. There are just issues with one of the vendors, A1 Phoenix Plumbing. They have been difficult. They came out on the 12th of August to look at my spout. It got approved for them to repair it. They're not able to locate the part. They keep telling me they already sent the stuff to American Home Shield. But American Home Shield said they don't have anything. They keep going through this back-and-forth. So nothing's resolved.
I had other issues and they came back out to look at other plumbing. It took them two weeks to submit their prognosis. I ended up getting a second opinion, and it was a different experience. They submitted their stuff right away. I knew exactly what was covered and what was not. Whenever I called American Home Shield, they were super helpful and they would try. But they kept saying the same thing. “We'll call them and we'll have them send it today.” It's been over a month.

The turnaround time with the contractor wasn't bad in terms of when they came out there. There was a break thereafter because I had to go into the hospital. But when I got out of the hospital, we set something back up, and the work was completed. But I have a problem with the services of AHS and how they interpret and manipulate their contract language. I ended up spending more ancillary things just to be able to get them to do their work. They can’t gain my trust again.
I've had AHS do three things for me. The first thing was my HVAC system. I have a water to air heat pump system. So when my compressor went down, the contractor that came out kept saying, “Well, you’re probably not getting enough water in the system. So we're not permitted to determine whether or not you're getting enough water in the system. So you need to call back AHS and tell them that they need to send somebody else out to take a look at your pump.” But the pump is a part of the system. I had to do an independent test to show that the water flow was sufficient. It was a delay that hurt me. Once I proved that the water flow was sufficient, the contractor came back out. They determined what the issue was, and it was on their side and not my side, that my system got fixed. But that wasn't the only issue.
I had a contractor who said, “You don't have to replace all of your fluid.” The contractor said that under their contract, AHS demands that they not reuse or recapture the refrigerant, and then make up the difference that was lost in the process. But they said no, they don't do that. AHS said that they didn't tell the contractor, and it wasn't in their relationship with the contractor that they couldn't recapture. So I ended up paying more for that than the cost of all the services because I got conflicting information between the contractor, what they were permitted to do in their contract and what AHS was saying.
The second time I used AHS to replace my hot water heater, which is in my attic, they said that this pull-down steps I had had to be removed, and it was my responsibility to remove it and then put them back up when it was all over with. I ended up having to do that before they would put the hot water heater up there, or they wouldn't even come back. In that process of trying to fix the issue, I ended up falling off a ladder and breaking two ribs. I had to spend time in the hospital to accommodate them before they would do the service. The contractor said, “We're not getting paid for all this extra stuff. So we're not going to do it.”
The same thing happened with the fan. The guy said, “We'll put it up there for you. But you got to build a platform in your attic, or put some boards up there, or whatever the case may be before we can do the work.” So in every project that I've had to do with AHS, I ended up spending more money than what they paid to have the service done.

My stove had a sensor that was going off. No matter what I did to reset it, it would not stop going off. Another thing was the oven itself didn't heat that well and getting it to turn on didn't work that great. I called American Home Shield sometime around the end of August. In the meantime, I had to pull the unit out and unplug it because that was the only way I could make it stop beeping.
When a tech came, he was here maybe five minutes. He looked at the unit and he diagnosed what replacement parts were needed. He said he would go back and put in an order for the parts. My unit was older so he didn't know if they would be able to get the parts for it. A day or two later, I got a notice from American Home Shield saying I would get a replacement. This is the second request I put in with American Home Shield. The first one was a bust and I ended up canceling it because the contractor never got back to me and I had no air. This experience with my oven on the other hand was really good and they took care of everything really fast.
American Home Shield has a good reputation in the market. I had a different company for the house I had owned previously and I did not like working with them. They were hard to work with and they weren't very responsive. I wasn't very impressed. But even with my limited experience with American Home Shield, I have already found them to be so much easier to work with and I like the app. It is super easy to use. You also get the contract information back so fast when they assign the claim and that's nice. I would definitely recommend this home warranty.

But this time, it couldn't be repaired and I needed an entire unit. So my policy covered $1,300 of $5,800. American Home Shield said, "Well, we can't do anything until Sears closes this claim." Sears said they closed the claim. It was just back and forth, and back and forth. On their fourth visit to my house, the washing machine never stopped spilling. My entire house is flooded today. I have the Servpro people getting my house dry. I can't speak to anybody with American Home Shield because the only phone numbers that you can get are two representatives that work from home and just schedule service calls. At the same time, my air conditioner went out, so I had to make another claim and that one went really well too. With air conditioners, you always run the risk of a supplier trying to sell a new unit when you don't really need one, but that was not the case at all here. The AC people just fixed what was broken. I'm perfectly happy with a repair person coming out here and fixing what's broken instead of trying to sell me a new appliance. The benefit of having a home warranty is if I did have to get a new appliance, then I would get a like-for-like replacement, but I haven't got to that point yet. American Home Shield's app is normally okay with requesting service. Everybody has to use the same options to describe the issues, though, and I had to call in because I could not find an option to describe what I was experiencing. If you’re gonna use the app, it'd be better that they have some way for you to actually provide written detail with what you're hearing as opposed to just having a few options. Even the rep that I talked to was trying to tell me, “Well, it must be this one thing.” I told her, “I don't even know what that thing is to tell you that’s what it is. And the previous owners had left a rag flushing the system. It was all the way down the pipes and finally got clogged up. But the guys were able to fish it out and flush out the line. So, it’s working a lot better. The contractors tolerated my husband sitting and asking them questions like an excited little kid. But they were very open with what they were doing. Any questions that my husband or I had, they answered them in an acceptable manner. And they explained it in a way we would understand. They were very professional and polite.
I've had American Home Shield since we bought the house last year. The monthly payments aren't bad at all. And this is the first time we've used them. But I like the benefits that are available, even if I haven't used all of them besides their options, like discounts for different appliances if you're ordering new. I also like the fact that they have troubleshooting videos whenever I pick an issue. Before I continue on with my claim, they have a, “If this is your issue, try doing this.” So that way, if it's a stupid, easy fix, I'm not going to waste my money on something I could have done myself, which I don't see a lot with many companies that do that.

There was no disclaimer when I bought the house about the BB Aspen coils and about there not being coverage that would cover the air conditioning unit should something go wrong. I'm upset about that and I think it's wrong. There has to be a statute of limitations at some point. We have serviced the unit since we've been in the house for five years. So, they inconvenienced me the whole time with people coming back and forth to fix it.
Then, when they fixed the air conditioner the last time, I ended up coming out of pocket for almost the whole job. When I had to put in a claim, it took a little while to have an availability. But I understand that's a repair technician availability thing and not necessarily on American Home Shield. I had a tech come out for the AC and it took three weeks to get somebody out there. But the tech did great. He was friendly and he showed up when they said he was going to show up. He diagnosed the problem quickly and it turned out that it was caused by the capacitor and fuse of my condenser.

My master bathroom had a bad faucet. The contract says American Home Shield works on faucets. Techs came in and installed a new faucet. I thought they were gonna change the washers but I got a whole new one, which was fine with me. I had other issues that American Home Shield handled in a timely manner. I had a refrigerator that had a problem, a dryer, and a washing machine. For the dishwasher, the techs had to come back because there was a faulty piece. They didn't charge me an additional charge. American Home Shield has been fine in dealing with the initial contact, the subsequent scheduling, and the actual people that do the work. I've not been disappointed. I'm satisfied with what they're doing.

Reaching out to AHS was frustrating. We tried to reach them by phone but there was nothing in their phone menu that allowed you to express that there had been a problem with the previous call. You could only speak to a salesperson or start a new service request and initiate a new service fee, which didn't seem right. I ended up using Twitter to get their attention. But when I spoke with them, everything went smoothly.
The techs had to come twice. The first time was for our air conditioner system. The cooling pump was working but the house fan was not circulating the cool air. The techs got the house fan working again and that was all fine and well. But once the heatwave ended and we tried to turn off the air conditioner, it wouldn't turn off. So, the techs came again and the problem turned out to be a loose wire that was preventing the off switch from engaging.

American Home Shield sent C & M and they said the problem was a burned-out plug. At first, the problem was that my stove was not working. When I first put the claim in, I told them about a stove. When the tech came out, he quickly pulled it out and said, "Nope, not that problem." He said it was an electrical issue. So, I had to call back because I was asking them, "Would I have to pay another $100 for an electrician to come out seeing that he didn't do anything?" Once he put in his diagnosis saying that it didn't have anything to do with the stove, that it was an electrical problem, AHS all changed it and fixed it for me so that they can still come out.

I'm liking the service for the most part. But sometimes, it's tough to get answers. We had a washing machine replaced and I was trying to find out if it was covered. I called and whoever I spoke to couldn't really answer. It was a little frustrating. Eventually, when I got it replaced, they took the old one away and it was fine. So far, AHS has been good. Recently, their tech Jeff from Jeff Hummel's Appliance was great.

A bad contractor came in for our AC and didn't know what he was doing. Told me that my Wi-Fi enabled thermostat is not Wi-Fi enabled. I said, "Really? Here's an app. I'm pressing a button. Lo and behold, the temperature drops or increases." Then, he didn't know that some ACs have to drain lines and checked only one. We called four times and I said, "Let's do a second opinion." Because this guy told me it was a problem with the interface, which I know it wasn't.
But then, that was one part of the problem. They didn't diagnose the fact that the outside unit kept turning off all on itself for another reason. The second company changed the motor. But, I had to call them up again, because they didn't finish the job correctly. It wasn't installed correctly. For some reason, it kept shutting off because the wires were tripping the switch. I wanted to have a third contractor, but AHS wouldn't allow me. They told me, "No, you cannot switch and get another contractor."
I also had a very good three-quarter horsepower garbage disposal and the contract says, "Only basic garbage disposal." A tech came in and said, "I'm just gonna start installing a new garbage disposal." I said, "Mine was very good. What are you installing?" He said, "1/3 horsepower, not 1/4 horsepower, like half a horsepower." It was worse.

There were two electrical issues that American Home Shield sent someone out for. There was one where they came in when I first bought the house, and there were outlets that were out. In the second one, which was the latest one, two guys came out. They did a fantastic job. They identified an issue with the backroom and the left side of the house, and they fixed it within 45 minutes. They did a lot more than that. They came in and they checked around to make sure that there weren't any other issues. They were really good guys. Since I've been here with American Home Shield, I've done my claims online. It's a lot easier. It's been pleasant working with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield has sent out good technicians. This last one was excellent, very professional and efficient. The garage door wasn't working with the opener, and the technician came out right away. I was pleased with that. There was a wire that was broken, and the technician just fixed it. It took five minutes. I like American Home Shield, but I am reevaluating it. I use them out of habit and because it's easy. I just contact them and let them know what's going on. I like the peace of mind of having to be able to call them and not have to find my own technician, but with the premium that it costs a month and then the deductible I still have to pay when they come out, is it worth it in the long run? Otherwise, American Home Shield is good, and I definitely recommend people to them all the time. It’s good for single women.

We've used American Home Shield three times, twice recently. Everybody that has come out for each of those three problems has been useful and helpful, and we've had a great experience with each of them. American Home Shield has trusted contractors for every problem that we've had. It's been a relief. It's self-explanatory, super easy, and they reach out to you. You just have to find out who you're looking for and the rest is taken care of. We had a fireplace installed recently. The contractor wasn't 100% on the electrical. We thought we have a home warranty that can come and double-check everything. We did that for our peace of mind.

We put in a trouble ticket for a refrigerator in our home in DC and the tech had to get his hands on a part to repair the refrigerator. He was coming back out again today and that was okay. We could tolerate that. The delay while he got the part was acceptable because we could recover a lot of those groceries because the refrigerator wouldn't have cooled down that fast. But we got an email yesterday from American Home Shield that because of the COVID situation, people can't get their hands on parts, which I'm tired of hearing about. AHS should be able to get their hands on the parts it needs to repair the kinds of home appliances that we've contracted to have them repair. We have a lot of groceries and we're losing those now. AHS needs to get out and fix the refrigerator today.

AHS is a layaway plan for problems that will eventually happen with my home and my experience with them so far has been as expected. But on occasion, I don't hear from the service company they assign. I would call them and they would be like, "Oh, yeah. We're getting to that." But that did not happen with my recent claim. We had an AC unit that had a bad engaged switch and the claims process went extremely smooth.

American Home Shield's service is decent. The clogged sink went well, but not the air conditioner. One part went bad and the company that AHS sent out wanted to do $5,000 worth of work for a $400 part and AHS only wanted to cover the part. So, for me to use their warranty company, I would have had to spend over $4,000 out of pocket for one part. I called and had another company come out and they just replaced the part and my air was fine. AHS probably uses either more or different companies because that was ridiculous to write me up a $4,000 bill when the part was 600 and I didn't need all of the other things that this company wanted to charge me for that were not covered.

The GE dryer was squeaking really bad as the bearing went out on it and it wasn't heating properly. Two different individuals came out and they were both very professional. They knew what they were doing and didn't spend a whole lot of time trying to troubleshoot it. The first gentleman who came out took the plug off the machine and looked around in there a little bit. He tried to stop the squeaking there, but he realized that it was because the bearing in the back was bad. So he suggested to replace the bearings because even if he could get it to stop, it would start doing it again. He ordered the parts and when they came in, a different repairman came back about 10 days or so later. He put the parts in quickly and the dryer has been working fine since then.

The water heater was the first thing that went out. A repairman put a device on it, but the furnace wouldn't stay lit. This was a furnace that was originally with the house. We had no control over it. He put a device on there and it sounded like it was all good. But then we noticed that the water wasn't getting hot. We called in and told American Home Shield that even though the guy put a new device on there, it was not staying hot. Zach with Tom Melton Plumbing came out and told us the reason why it was not staying lit was because the gas was not going up, and he needed to shut our valve off. He ended up coming back and replacing the furnace.
Recently, we called in and asked if we could have him or that company serve us for the faucet and the tub. Zach came out and looked at the sink. He told my husband that American Home Shield probably wouldn't cover the sink because of the rope being ripped. It had tape around it. It's a waterproof tape because it was squirting water everywhere. When he went to the tub, he told my husband American Home Shield definitely was not going to cover it because it had a crack.
When I called and talked to a representative, I said, “I don't understand that you won't fix the faucet and you won't fix to tub. We didn't purposely do any of it.” He said, “It was the way he wrote it up. You can call the company.” I called the company and talked to the manager. He explained the same thing. He said, “He wrote it up and said that you guys damaged the sink, and the tub was improperly put in.” I explained to him that we bought the house and these were the remodels. We had no control over what faucet was put in there and what tub. I called American Home Shield again and asked, “Could you send me somebody else as a second opinion?” Neace came out and explained the faucet has a reputation of tearing in the same spot. When we googled it and looked at it on YouTube, that company had other situations where people were replacing them for that same area. The guy said, “We can replace this but they're not going to replace the tub.”
When I first was going through this experience, I thought American Home Shield was a zero company. I got the runaround for a whole month about the furnace. We were boiling our water on the stove for a month. But the second time around, it became average. I'm sure it'll get better as they begin calling in and talking to customers. That was one of the recommendations that I made. Instead of waiting for customer complaints so bad, why don't they have somebody check if anything is going on between that service, why it’s still under contract, why it’s still open. I noticed when I made a second call, we were getting those surveys quickly. Maybe they listened enough to say they need to try to do better.
