I've been a customer for a little over two years and the last month I've had to use your service for the first time and it's been horrible since. My most recent issue is I had a leak where water was coming out the wall on 02/04/2022. The rep did not treat my issue as an emergency after asking her several times. I was given the info for a plumbing company that I contacted because they hadn't call me. The guy said, "I'm driving. I'll call you back." Hours later around 6:30 he called back and said that he couldn't come out until Tuesday of next week. I couldn't wait that long (No water in my house). I called you back and was given a different plumbing company but the rep said that there is no emergency service and there was nothing that can be done until Monday. I spoke with Danco which scheduled me an appointment for Monday 02/07/2022 and they never showed up.
I called AHS again and got a rude representative that refuse to hang up the call or escalate my call so I can speak to a supervisor. I called back and my call was escalated. I spoke to Val who stated that she will waive the $100 service fee because I had to stay in a hotel room and I still had no service contractor scheduled to come out. I called back to see if I could get a different plumbing company out but was told by the rep that I need to give Danco time to come out and fix the problem (After they didn't show up).
We called Danco and they schedule me for the next day between 9-12. When they didn't show up the next day I called and got my call escalated to another person in the escalation dept. We got Danco on the line and they promised to come out by 5pm (which they did) and I spoke to the rep in the escalation dept regarding my reimbursement because AHS charged me for the service fee anyway. I was told that it would take 3-5 days to be refunded.
Today 02/16/2022 I have not been refunded. I called a rep and asked her to escalate my call today at 10:05am. She refused and said I will be refunded next time I need service at my home. I asked for her supervisor and she said, "I'll put a request for a call back." I advised her that she did not assist me and asked her to end the call so I can do the survey. She didn't end the call, put me on hold so I wouldn't have a chance to complete the survey. I've been on hold for 28 minutes and still holding because she refuse to release the call.
This is not how customers should be treated. I also was told that I had to pay out of pocket because my warranty didn't cover access to my pipes, looking at my contract it shows that access to the pipes are covered. As of today I'm still dealing with rude representatives, still don't have my 100 service fee refunded, still on hold for 30 minutes and I've been out of pocket for $250 when my contract should have covered the repairs. NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER AT ALL.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Robert and I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

We had problems with our washer and dryer not functioning properly. The washing machine had a leak. The dryer just shut down. It was no longer heating or running and that was what prompted the initial call with AHS. They sent me the contact information and the name of the contractor and then let me know that he should be in touch with me within 24 hours to schedule a time to come out and check the appliances.
The tech was outstanding. He showed up when he was supposed to. I like his knowledge, his honesty and openness on what was going on and what was going to be done. He informed me also that he had to submit the information to American Home Shield and let me know if they would, in turn, have to authorize the repair. So he made no promises. He just figured out what was going on. They had the part on order within a day. The only thing that I wished was if it could have been done a little bit quicker. But I would definitely recommend AHS.

I like the ease of access with American Home Shield. I don't have to worry about stressing over having to come up with extra money. If you have some sort of mechanical breakdown, you're going to pay your deductible and most likely it's gonna be covered. I made a claim to the home warranty when there was water backing up into the dishwasher that wouldn't drain. A tech came on time and he was professional. He looked at the issue and he had to order parts. When those arrive, he will call us and set up an appointment to come in and install the parts.

My AC unit was as old as hell. When I turned on the heat, it was blowing but it was blowing hot. It was on almost all night before I even attempted to get where it was supposed to go. So, I called AHS. The techs put it in a part, and they gave me some more Freon for it. It seems to be okay right now. American Home Shield did a good job of getting repairmen that seem to do the most good. I've had some decent people here and they didn’t take that long to get here. But through my own development, I had to wait days for something else to do with a sun sheet that I have in my ceiling. It took about six more tries for them to get somebody here who didn't work out. But, I have had nothing bad with American Home Shield. I'm very happy about it.

I haven't been let down so far by American Home Shield. I've used them four times. Recently, AAA came out and fixed my AC. When the guy came out, there was a lizard that was fried on my outside AC unit. He changed the little switch and went through my circuit box. He told me I had to make sure that I push it all the way back because even though it looked like it was on, it wasn't completely on when it came to the outside unit. He was knowledgeable and very fast. He made sure the unit had freon and there was nothing bad on the inside of the unit minus the fried lizard.

They finally replaced the appliance after having the contractor out for the fourth time. They got me a new one and I was happy with that. But when the contractor came out, they said they couldn't get the gas shut off. So they couldn't hook it up. Meanwhile, my son came over and he shut it off in five seconds. I don't know what the contractor was doing. It looked like they weren't even turning the right part. But we got it hooked up. I have to call them back because they need to come and get this old one.

I got the heating unit checked out last year, and then my sister and my parents had this company come out and check it twice a year for the heating and for the cooling. So, that's a good idea because I don't know anything about it. I've never had this kind of heating unit. So, I had their people come out to check the furnace, make sure that they change the filters and all that stuff that they do. Since it was their first time, I guess they did a pretty thorough check and they found some cracks in the -the heat exchange part. They showed it to me. They weren't totally perforated though because they weren't getting off carbon monoxide yet. But it's an older unit. I said, "Okay, well, What? Do we just call?" They said, "Yeah, it's covered."
I called AHS and they said, "Yeah, it's covered," and they determined that they needed to put in a totally new unit as opposed to just repairing the cracks. That was what happened. They sent out the company and supplied the unit and they installed it. American Home Shield is well worth the money. It's definitely something to consider. I'm very satisfied with it.

There was no heat coming into the house. When a guy came and checked it, he said the compressor. He was very nice and professional. He had to come back a week later to do the replacement because the compressor had to be ordered. The only thing was the guy told me American Home Shield was going to cover everything but they modify it. the home warranty said no and I had to pay $425. I was not expecting that. It was a lot of money but I paid it. The tech came and got the job done the following week. I haven't had any problem with the unit since then.
The only problem that I had was the breaker is tripping with the light downstairs and upstairs. The tech said that it was the AC compressor that was doing that. After that, it was still doing the same thing. I call about that and was told that it was an electrical problem and had nothing to do with the compressor. I had to call an electrician to get that taken care of. But I thought it was a compressor because the tech told me it was a compressor that was causing the breaker to trip. Once we replaced the compressor, I shouldn't have had any problems with that but I was still having the same problem. I called American Home Shield again and booked the electrician. They came over here and they said two of the circuit breaker thing were out and they replaced them. It's been a rough roller coaster. We've only been here a month and I had to do a few repairs here and there.
American Home Shield gets the stuff done. When it comes to when I call to get anything booked, they get it booked right away and they'll send somebody out. With the TV thing, I put an order in since last week. The breaker tripped a light upstairs in my son's room and then the TV broke. I had to go buy another TV. Someone was putting an order in for me to get the TV replaced but I haven't heard anything about that and it's just so frustrating. I called American Home Shield a couple of times already and I'm tired of it. So far, I pay American Home Shield a lot of money. When I moved into the house, the owner bought the insurance. I then upgraded it. I added an additional $175 or $200. I ended up having a problem with the thing. I had to pay two or three different times for someone to come out here to look at and fix stuff.

The washer went out and American Home Shield sent out Ace. Ace came through. They did pretty well and they diagnosed it remotely. We were able to pretty much do a quick assessment that replacing it would be incredibly expensive and to make that choice to replace it. They also did the refrigerator. The parts arrived in about three weeks. Then they came out and replaced it. It was good. The guy was very knowledgeable. He wrapped his feet with booties. He was very thoughtful and considerate. Overall, it was nice.
American Home Shield's website was fairly straightforward. It was a little confusing but it was super nice. I was on the phone when I was requesting my claim and it was great that I was able to lump multiple claims under one deductible. That was done with the customer in mind, which was extraordinary. When I did the claim for the appliances, I would have done two or three more electronic submissions and it would have been $75 per issue. Instead, they were able to put them together and make $75 cover one group category. It was great.

The contractor got right back to us right after we put the service call in. The icemaker part was broken and there was missing a part. They got back to us the first of the week and they got there two days earlier than they thought they would. They repaired it and they did a good job. But with AHS, you need to read the fine print. We had a hot water tank that went out and we were super unhappy about the service we got from that. AHS replaced the water tank but we had to pay for the pipe and the new hookups for the water. All that had to be done was put the water tank in and they could have put the same stuff back in but the contractor wanted $700 just for the accessories and the installation of it. They wanted $20 for some of the accessories but we bought them for $3.85. So, we installed the new unit ourselves and it cost $485. And the installation didn't take an hour.
The thing is, a paragraph in the policy says that they'd replace your hot water tank or replace your air conditioner. Then you have to go to the back of it to look about the accessories to go with it. So I called AHS and asked about it. They said, if I was looking under such and such at the back, the accessories and extra are not covered. And even at that, we bought those parts for 50 bucks but the company that they dealt with at that time wanted $700. My husband said that was ridiculous. Other than that, we had an icemaker claim and the company that we dealt with before did a good job.

I had an electrical issue and American Home Shield replaced the original contractor because he was terrible. He took about a month and a half to do the job. Then Harvey Contractors came out for the same job and they did it in about two and a half weeks. They called, scheduled, and they were here within the week. Within a week, they were here with the piece. So, I was really happy with them. The gentleman was really professional and he was also kind enough to give me little tips on how to work with the other appliances in my house. They went above the call of duty there.
American Home Shield and everyone else that was helping me through the process was doing pretty well in following up. The customer service is amazing when it comes to trying to solve your problems and figuring stuff out. Making a claim through American Home Shield is extremely easy. You can do it online or you can call them and they're pretty awesome at figuring out what you need. So I'm pretty happy.

I had a problem in the beginning trying to get the refrigerator repaired. Every time, Sears would order parts and those wouldn't fit. The last contractor sent, Paul's, got right on it and got everything rolling. AHS finally decided that they would give me another refrigerator and that worked out fine. AHS is supposed to be replacing my wall oven but they don't have a white unit. I'm just going to get the stainless steel one instead of waiting for white because where it is positioned in my kitchen, nobody won't see it but me. But AHS gave me a choice and I was able to find a white one 26 miles away from my house. Everything that I've asked them to do so far, they've done.

My air conditioner messes up almost every year, and I get a call every year. American Home Shield has been really good at helping me get my air conditioner fixed. Overall, the claim process isn't bad. I've never had problems until this year because I had three vendors, back to back, put that modification down on their work order instead of just saying what they had to do. Originally, we had somebody come out and there was a power drop from the inside box to the outside box. AHS sent us an electrician to come out to fix that. We had power running in the line originally. Then for whatever reason, we lost the power to that line. They were going to have to run a new line from that power box inside to the one outside. They put on the work order they had to do a modification. So, it wasn't covered and we got it taken care of ourselves and got the electric working again.
I called AHS back and they sent the AC guys back out, and they were about to do the same thing. They were about to write down modification needed. I told them, “Do not do that. If I need a thermostat, you write down a thermostat, and that's all I needed.” We got the thermostat. That process took about three weeks. I would still tell people that AHS is great. They just need to watch the vendors and make sure they put down just what they need to do.

But I enjoyed that during the times that we couldn't use the washing machine, we got reimbursed for going to the laundromat. Also, there have been a couple of times where I’ve needed assistance really quick, like for my furnace. It was cold and by the time they finally came out, my brother had dealt with the issue. Then, we had Wright Jones Plumbing come and check out an item that needed repair. They decided I need to get a new one so we did. One of the pipes in my wall was frozen. The contractor came out but they didn’t do the job that day because they needed the part. The tech ordered some piping and one baseboard. Then I called and said, “Hey, your guys ordered a part. But we're expecting a blizzard in Connecticut and low temps.” So, I asked if they could make sure they’d get out before the blizzard. The tech said he would put me in for Friday before the blizzard. But that didn't happen. So I went through the blizzard with more pipes freezing and I tried to do propane tank heaters in the basement to keep the pipes from freezing.
Monday came but they didn’t get out there. They were still waiting on parts. The parts were due to come in on January 27. They finally got out there but the guy had one pipe and he didn’t have the part. He cut the pipe. The pipes were frozen. It was horrendous. He said he couldn't get it going because he said he got to tell his boss to the warehouse to get the part. Then they would have to come back. So now, I’m still trying to keep things warm and I put my tenants in a hotel because now my toilets are frozen. My water system is frozen.
I called American Home Shield and told them, “Hey, these people are not coming out.” They assured me that they will go ahead and try to take care if something were to happen. So, my water tank went all right. But my boiler is messed up. One thing that American Home Shield said to me was that if I were to use the word expedite or immediate or hurry when I initially call, they could expedite it rather than me calling and having to expedite later. They said I didn't ask them to expedite. But I didn't see where I was supposed to ask. I told my pipes were frozen and it was freezing. But I didn't know I had to use the word expedite.

It was a matter of a day or two and a gentleman showed up on time. I asked him to remove his boots and he was more than happy to do that. He came in and looked at both of the toilets. What I liked about him was he took a lot of time to explain to me what was going on. We used American Home Shield last time at our other house. We used it again this time when we bought a new house and both times, the experience is very good. We're very happy with the home warranty that we have.

I've had to use American Home Shield quite a bit over the last few years with purchasing a big home that had two of everything. It was a little rough during COVID for a bit to get through and it was also a challenge with the amount of vendors available to us where I live. But other than that, for the most part, I've enjoyed the service. But we just sold that house so I need to cancel my policy. Overall, for broken air conditioners, heaters and dishwashers, AHS has been fine. But when I had a leak that I had to remove some of the sheetrock between two floors, their list of plumbers were not ideal. I ended up opting not to use them and paying for it outright instead. Also, the premiums were starting to go up so I was gonna start looking at it a little closer of taking that same yearly premium and putting it in the savings account, as it crossed the threshold that didn't make sense to be paying that plus the $75 deductible every time you did a claim.

We're glad that AHS covered our latest and only claim this year. The contractor guy was great and he took care of it. He was going to go into the house to see if there was water under there from that leaking toilet. Having a small amount of floor that was damaged in the home, but not bad enough to really leak into the next level, but it saturated that pressboard junk that everybody uses for flooring in a new home. When they got it all replaced, there was always a little bit of a void, or a moat, around the drain hole where the toilet goes. If water leaks can sit down in that and it only can go down and it can't come out.
I fill those voids up with silicone, and at the very least, seal everything. If it puddles, it'll stay there until it gets full, then it'll run out. So, that was how we discovered this one. I had done that when we bought these toilets. Every time we flush, a little water would show up out that opening in the silicone. It was coming down instead of going down. This guy said, "That's pretty smart. We don't ever do that."
I did that on both toilets for the very reason that it worked. We had water show up instead of going down for months or years until everything gets sloppy and it's, "Man, we got a problem." None of it was cracked, none of it was heaved, nothing swelled up. I assumed all of the water came out. There was just a little bit and they've been doing it for about a month. Unfortunately, we didn't catch it the first day, but we got it fixed. I could have done this myself and done the whole toilet thing. But with my back, it was nice to have a young guy there fix that toilet up and re-set it. It was 100 bucks, totally worth it.

I had an issue with my water heater. I called American Home Shield and service people came out right away when they got the service number. But as to how fast I got the service number, I had to wait five days for that. I would like to speak to somebody that's higher up because that was unacceptable. I had a credit that was on my account. American Home Shield kept passing the ball then it got sent up to the escalation department. I never heard back from them until I really pressed the subject. That aside, the service people that came out were able to fix the issue with the water heater.
I dislike dealing with American Home Shield's process when you have a credit and how long you have to wait for a repair person to come out because I had no hot water on two separate occasions. At this particular juncture, I would not recommend American Home Shield. I have been with them for over 20 years so I was really not expecting to be treated in that manner. I'm really perturbed.

It took about 20 minutes. Everything has been working alright so far. I've used American Home Shield twice. Every time I’ve used them, I’ve had to pay, but considering the money that I had paid versus if I did not have them or any type of warranty, it would have been a lot more. So, I would recommend to anyone, if not American Home Shield, at least look into getting some type of home warranty. Also, every time I've called AHS, I've never had to wait a long time to get someone out there.

I have had difficulty with American Home Shield trying to deny several of my claims. They are quick to deny things without getting all the information. For the most part, they have done very well with regards to quick fixes. But if we're talking about replacement and bigger issues, you're going to get pushback from American Home Shield. When my heater went out, one vendor came out and was saying there was water damage. But the water damage was from 15 years ago. My roof leaked and it happened to be up in the attic. They saw that the platform got damaged. They tried to say that it was current water leak. American Home Shield was trying to dismiss my claim. I was very upset and had to get a supervisor. I told them it had nothing to do with the heater. It was the foundation that was on. Then Relaxed Heating and Air came out and fixed it.
I've been with American Home Shield for years and they're consistently going up on my price and not even giving a multiple property discount. I used to be able to contact my sales rep, who was kind of my advocate, knowing exactly what was going on and presenting my case to American Home Shield correctly. I have found that some of the agents are not understanding what I'm saying and get confused. It would be good if American Home Shield would have an advocate for a certain area and not just have customers call and speak to entry level people that may not speak English.

There was no heat coming out of the unit and the tech found a broken sensor. He was efficient and fast. He came out, diagnosed it, got the part and put it in. It took a day. My dishwasher had a broken tray and the light that had to go in, and it took a week. That was over a little bit of time. Everything is working but I still am getting a flickering light on the light in my office. I wasn't that satisfied with who came out because he was dismissive of it and was so sure it could be my refrigerator. But I unplugged my refrigerator and it changed. I told him that if I plug anything, the vacuum seems to make it flicker too. So, there was something going on.
I'm traveling and I'm not around as much as I'd like to be so I didn't get back to American Home Shield soon enough. So they said I would have to pay yet another $100. If a person's busy or a problem comes back that still didn't seem to be repaired, AHS should have longer than a 30-day, “You have to let us know.” I get that it could be a new thing but it's exactly the same thing. It just never got fixed.

The answer they gave me didn't make any sense. They said it wasn't wear and tear and it was actually from the snow. I didn't understand how that wasn't covered. That’s what’s gonna make me reconsider either re-signing the contract or even getting that extra insurance, because I purchased it just so we could be covered.

AHS has a quick turnaround but they don't follow through very well. And when you try to unsubscribe because you're angry because your customer service is pitiful, they give you the runaround. They connect you over four times and you get hung up on. I recently had a claim for my furnace and the techs had to come back out later and replace a part. I'm not a heating and AC kind of guy, but usually, if you got it fixed up and you got to fix it again in a couple of weeks, it means you didn't fix it in the first place, you just got it going. But the people were nice and they responded quickly. I also found out that I had to get a membership with them for them to come out here on a weekend because they don't answer American Home Shield's request except on Monday through Friday. So if the AC breaks down on a Saturday, you have to wait until Monday for them to respond to it.
Other than that, the process of requesting for the service from AHS was pretty smooth and straightforward. But there's no way to request who you want to come out. And when you request help for the second time, there's no way to say that the techs have come out once and to request those people to come fix it again. Because if somebody else came out and it was the same thing, they would have charged.

The toilet was just running and it wouldn't stop. The guy showed up, and he was very quick. He just put a new ball and cock, toilet valve and nut and shortened the chain. Now it works, so I'm very happy. Usually, the claims process with American Home Shield goes pretty smoothly. I'm having a tough time with this one claim going on right now. It's unbelievable. It's for a washer that hasn't worked for quite a while. They sent out somebody who took a long time to get back, which is fine. I know we have supply problems. The guy came back, and he never noticed the first time that it's a gas dryer. He said, "Well, I'm not licensed to deal with gas. I can't do this." So, then he said, "I'll come back with another guy and we'll fix it." But I never heard from them again.
I called the plumbing company that was supposed to do the work, and they said, "Oh, we're not gonna do the job." I said, "Well, why didn't you tell me? What do you mean you're not gonna do the job? Shouldn't I get a new washer then?" They said, "No, no, we informed American Home Shield." Then I called American Home Shield and they said, "Oh, yeah, the job is done." I said, "No, it's not. The washer was never repaired and it doesn't work. And I'd like to get a new washer-dryer." It shouldn't be this hard. I'm still waiting. A different company is coming tomorrow through American Home Shield, and they're gonna look at it and then assess it. So, it's gonna be a whole bunch of service calls, and nothing has happened so far.
If the first company can't repair it, then they should just get a new washer. Also, the first company was so rude. They told me, "Oh, it's too hard to pull the washer-dryer out." It's in a little closet, but it's been pulled out before and installed. They told me that I should pull it out. I said, "Well, I'm a senior citizen with arthritis, so I don't think that's gonna happen. And you're the company that's supposed to come here and repair it." I was very unhappy with that. But as far as Mario, the plumber from American Plumbing & Drain, he was fine.
I'm rethinking having AHS. You have a choice, when you buy the coverage for a year, of paying less premium and higher service charges or more premium and lower service charges. I'm with a lower premium, and I'm just paying this fortune and all the service charges. I'm thinking, "Well, I'm paying $125 an hour through American Plumbing for each visit and a regular plumber isn't that much more." If I don't have American Home Shield, I get to pick who I want. Other than that, they have nice people coming out to service the heaters, and they give you a free heater checkup every year. Those went really well.

So it went pretty smooth. The guy that came out was really good. He pulled the refrigerator out and started checking everything. He said, “I know what it is but I've got an order parts because I can't fix it the way it is.” I asked him how long would it take and he said, “Oh, I should be able to get pretty quickly.”
I couldn't believe how quick it was because of all the things they say about COVID and that they can't get products. I was shocked when they called and said they had the part already. The guy came out and he was very professional. He asked me, “Do you have an old towel or a rag? Because it's gonna put water on the floor when I do it. We also called yesterday. Our sewer was stopped up and I couldn't get anybody there. It seems like there's no sense of urgency. When your sewer is stopped up, you can't go to the bathroom or take a shower. To me, that's a bit of an emergency. When your house is hot, you can't get cool for two days. I called back and they rescheduled an appointment because the refrigerator is doing the same old thing again. Everything in the refrigerator is freezing better than the freezer side. That's the downside of having it fixed. Other than that, the young man was very professional and he handled himself well. Someone is supposed to come out next week, on the 23rd, to try to fix the refrigerator again. On the whole, the claim process was not bad. Then, the technician noted that my disconnect was one of the major issues and they sent an electrician out here. I removed my washing machine, had it unscrewed from the valves in the back by the washing machine, then installed some flooring. Then, I was going to put my washing machine back on except when I opened the valves, they wouldn't seal as they opened so, they were leaking. I was able to stop the leaking from just closing them back up and I thought that if I would open them up again and see if they'd not leak as they were connected to the washing machine. Unfortunately, that was the case. They also looked corroded and like they’ve been there a while.
So I called in through American Home Shield and ASAP showed up. They immediately identified the fact that the valves were soldered on, so it would require cutting the pipe. The current thing is that you crimp on six inches of PEX pipe, then you apply the valve, and you move on with life. But when they were there, they informed me that they had to do pipe modifications and that was not covered under my Home Shield warranty. They also said that AHS almost never cover it. So I looked at my contract and I didn't see anything about the fact they had to cut some pipe in order to add a couple more extensions on just to allow new valves. But I needed to wash my clothes. So, I got out my credit card, they swiped it for 285 bucks, and they did a great job.
When I looked at the invoice, I noticed they invoiced Home Shield for $205. But I paid $285, so what did I pay for if they got 205 out of it. I asked one of the plumbers to call me and tell me what the 285 paid for. But they called back and unfortunately lectured me about what I did or didn't do. Then, a young lady from Home Shield found a part of the contract that talked about equipment removal and they won’t cover modifications if you have to remove a piece of equipment. I could see where that would apply but my issue wasn’t anything like that.
So then I called ASAP and they said they were going to have a technician call me. This was last Monday and in fact, the office manager called. She was going to tell me that she has yet to get a technician to call me, but she took up the issue with me. I told her that all we’re trying to do is justify what the breakdown of the 285 homeowner charge was. And to date, she never had the technician call to justify that. So I'm having a feeling that's probably a way Home Shield works.
The next thing that happened was, they said they'd call American Home Shield and have them bring in a person to fix the sheetrock. I said okay and after about a week, the valves were working. The first gentleman that Home Shield got to me wanted $300 to do the whole job because he said that Home Shield doesn't pay him and that they only tell him to put the keys up. He said he'd do the work for $65, that he had to pay $16,000 in taxes recently, and that he really needed the money. So I took a picture of three 20s and a 5. I told him that when you gets here, this cash was his. But he said we wanted it to be thru Cash App. So then I called Home Shield and I told them that we needed to find another vendor. The next gentleman came out and he seemed to be one of these jack of all trades guy. He did a great job and as a result of his work, I was able to paint, texture, and get things done.
Other than that, I have this lingering feeling that I probably shouldn’t have paid the $285 to ASAP and it feels like I got took. And as I look into the contract, I think that's the case. I’d like to tell Home Shield to do business, but it would give me a sense of justice is if they could cross them off their list because I looked on their Facebook page and I looked for praises, which you’d see on social media, and the ones who were motivated to say anything, for the most part, were not happy with some of their Home Shield interactions. And it’s bad for Home Shield’s brand. In the end, ASAP got an excess of $580. The work performed is holding, but their interpretation of my contract with AHS, coupled with their criticism of fact that I didn't spend enough money with AHS, cost me $285. They overcharged me on top of the fee and I don't know why Home Shield would want to carry them as a provider.

They would not answer their phone. That went on until the 1st of January. It was a long process. I kept calling American Home Shield, and they were trying to reach out to the company as well. Finally, Hull A/C & Heating was sent out. They got my heat to work, and it has continued to work. Hull did an excellent job. They answered their phone. They gave me an appointment time. They came when they said they were coming. I've had no problem since they came out.
I've been very pleased with American Home Shield. The claim process has been awesome. Over the years, I've had to have some things done. But I've never had a problem with the claims process. When I call them, I get assigned with someone and they give me their information as well. They've always responded. I've never had the experience that I had with the first company that they sent out for my heat issue. The thing that bothered me with American Home Shield was that they said to me, “Well, we have to follow back up with them.” But if they don't respond within at least a 48-hour time period, then somebody else should be sent out. Because it took about eight weeks before they sent Hull out and get my issue resolved.

The drying element of my dishwasher was not working. I contacted American Home Shield and they sent a contractor out to me. Their tech diagnosed the issue and found that the element was non-repairable so he submitted for a replacement. I was contacted by American Home Shield to select a product replacement and they selected an installer for me. He came out and he did a great job. I had someone give the new unit a test run and everything was working fine. I would highly recommend American Home Shield.

I'm happy with the contractor that AHS sent out and with the product that they installed when they installed my furnace. But I started calling about the claim on December 5th and I did not have reliable heat until December 31st. First, they replaced a circuit board, then they came back and they replaced it again. And then they replaced it again. Finally, after about 25 days, they decided I needed a new furnace. I'm not mad but I'm really disappointed about that.
With the way I got treated, I’d never refer AHS to anyone. I assume that because I was treated this way that maybe that’s how AHS treats all its customers. But I would hope not. Aside from that, when they took the new furnace in, they had to change the ductwork and it was $550. And the only compensation I had for not having dependable heat for a whole month was that they they got the new one in on New Year's Eve, because on New Year's Day, it turned about 10 below and we’re lucky that we didn't freeze all the pipes in the house over the last over 30 days, because then we got a whole different problem. And after all that, the only thing I got was the $100 service fee back. They said they're going to refund that but I don't even know if I got that back because I don't really look at my credit card statements much.

We ran the heater, and the air and heat wouldn't come on. But I didn't check the breaker, so when the technician came, he said that the first thing to do is to check that. Apparently, it was off, and I didn't how it got off. We turned it on and everything went fine. I had dealt with them before. He's always treated me right and he's never overcharged. He could've charged me a lot of money this time, but he was honest and the breaker was just off. The company recommended him the first time I called AHS about my air condition and so I just asked for him ever since.

There have been some things that we've called American Home Shield for that we don't need them for. But then there are other things that they're really good about, which I personally appreciate. If we ever have an appliance that needs repair, we set up the claim. But sometimes it's not as expedient as we need. We had a leak and I would have preferred to have the plumber to come out immediately versus the next day or two days after I sent in the request.

American Home Shield has responded every time I've asked. Recently, there was a gas smell coming from the gas dryer. The Quality Appliance guy came out to check it out. He said he thought that there was little gas getting into the dryer and told us we had to call a plumber. American Home Shield sent a plumber from San Antonio, which is 30 miles away. That plumber was unable to fix it because they didn't have the parts and had to order them. I subsequently called a local plumber that day to get it fixed because the gas was overwhelming, and it felt it was a dangerous situation. We were heading into the 20s that night and our furnace was run by gas. I paid $155 to have a plumber redo the pipe and the valve. After that, I called American Home Shield and told them what happened. They sent the Quality Appliance guy back out, and he replaced a bunch of parts. But gas is still coming from the dryer though not as bad as it was.
I also had another claim for a furnace that broke, and that went so smoothly. The guy that repaired the furnace got the part within a day and fixed it. It was wonderful. The plumbing situation with the gas leak was a bad experience. American Home Shield was fine but I don't know that they're going to change providers because the provider couldn't get the parts. I called them to complain but I still had to pay the $155. They didn't refund my $80.

Being as I’m up there in age and my husband also, it's a nice thing to have to call AHS when you don't have someone to help you with something that might be broken. They do ask you a lot of questions when you call in on a situation, though. For instance, they serviced my refrigerator the other day and when the man got here, he wanted to know what was going on. I told him what I thought it was but I called AHS because they were supposed to know what was going on if they'd look at it. And if it was not cooling, he should know that. Other than that, the tech was great. He ordered the part and he was back within a week to put it in.
But when he left, we found that my icemaker was not working and not really cooling the way it should. It was within three days and and if I called back, AHS would want to charge me again to send someone out. So, I didn't have him come back out because I knew that AHS would do that. They'd done that to me before and I couldn't afford another service call. I've also had incidents with them where they kept me on the phone too long. They wanted to know everything and if I knew what was wrong with my appliance, I wouldn't be calling them. It’s that they didn't want to put anything into that item that was not absolutely required. But it depends on who I get on the phone. Some of the ladies are much more helpful than others and they'd advise you to tell them everything before hanging up.
Aside from that, when I had a problem with a pipe under my sink, they made me wait six months for a leaking pipe because they didn't have it in stock at their local repair places around here. I went over and looked, and they did have it but it was overpriced. At the time, I had to keep a bucket under my sink for four to six months while they ordered the pipe from somewhere.

I had several claims recently. One of them has to do with sink repairs and that has not been resolved. I'm just waiting. I spoke with someone the other day about it and there was a question about what the contractor said where American Home Shield would only pay $125 towards the repair. When I called, they said that's not true. Right now, that's going back and forth. I was told that the people at American Home Shield have been on vacation for 10 days. I was supposed to hear back on Tuesday. Today is Thursday and I still haven't heard anything.
Some of my claims with American Home Shield were terrible. After the technicians were here, I had to pay and call somebody myself to fix things. There were times that I had to cancel and I didn't get my $75 back. I was really considering renewing the policy and I'm really thinking about it now. It depends on how this next issue is resolved because it's very frustrating. It's a long and drawn-out process. I don't seem to get a person to come back and make appointments. I don't find out whether something's been ordered. They didn't tell me about an order this last time on the sink. That's something that American Home Shield is supposed to take care of. I spent a lot of time trying to get in touch with the people and having to go back and forth on text messages. I'm 83 years old and I'm truly tired of having to do all of the work.
In the last month or so, I saw an improvement. I was very impressed that once I put a request in, American Home Shield assigned it and I got an email back saying it had been assigned, to whom, and that they're supposed to call me within 24 hours. Some of the service companies do. When parts were ordered and mailed to my home, I was notified of that. I was notified when that contractor would come back and do the job. I got really excited when I saw how efficient one request was taken care of. That was the perfect way it should happen.
The other thing was I was charged an additional $250 that I had to pay out of pocket. I got that information from the contractor that told me that American Home Shield would not pay. If I understood him correctly, that was the disposal of the old hot water heater. I was surprised about that. I hope that American Home Shield is going to continue to stay on top of the situations and at least follow up on people. That would really make my life easier.

It's more expensive here in Hawaii to have a policy than on the mainland but American Home Shield always tries their best to send somebody over as soon as possible. When the air conditioner didn't work, the contractor gave me a call as to when they could come. From time to time, if there's ever a problem, they service the unit and have always been good. They made me aware of the fact that I could call them again if anything went wrong. The other thing that’s nice is that they are all vaccinated and boosted, and they wear their masks.

American Home Shield is doing a good job. I've been impressed with the contractors and the quickness that they come out. Six months ago, I had to call to do a request and now, the website is working. So, if I think about it late at night, I don't have to try to get someone on the phone. I can request it right on the website, and that's been great. One of my bathroom sinks was continually dripping and Hers & His Plumbing had Moen send out a new cartridge to put in there but for some reason, that didn't work. You can't just replace the cartridge without ruining everything else and they are going to talk to Moen about getting a new faucet to get on there.

My refrigerator went out so I called American Home Shield. Every time you get someone dispatched, you have to pay $100. A guy came out, looked at the refrigerator, and he said he fixed it. About two days later, the refrigerator went out again so I called the guy directly. He came back out and he said I needed a new water filter. I purchased one and the guy put it in. He cleaned out the thing and the refrigerator is back to working again. It lasted for about five days then went out again. I called the guy again and he said I needed to change the settings on the refrigerator. He corrected the settings and the refrigerator came back on. It lasted for about a week then the refrigerator went out again.
I called the guy back and he told me that I needed to call American Home Shield for them to send him out again. The very first time he came, he said the switchboard needed to be replaced. American Home Shield purchased that and he installed it. But the refrigerator kept breaking down after that. This last time, I called American Home Shield back and they sent the guy out again. The refrigerator has been down for about a week now. All of this is within a matter of two weeks.
The guy came back out again and now, American Home Shield is telling me that the same part, the control switch that he replaced less than two weeks ago, needed to be replaced again. They're ordering that part again. It will be here on Saturday for him to come out and replace again. Instead of American Home Shield replacing the refrigerator, they keep replacing the same parts that keep going out a week apart, which is costing me hundreds of dollars to keep replacing groceries. I purchased food and had to throw all the food out twice.
When I called American Home Shield today to go over that with them, they were telling me that the contractor told them that the refrigerator is fixable, so they're going to fix it. But the guy told me that he advised American Home Shield that it is the same parts that he replaced less than two weeks ago and the parts can be replaced to get it back working as he did two weeks ago.
I'm paying a premium every month for American Home Shield and this is the service that I get. The contractor told me that American Home Shield told him that the parts are only 100 and something dollars for one, and 50 something for the other. It will be more feasible to buy the parts versus replacing the refrigerator, although this is the fifth time the refrigerator needs to be checked within a month's time.
I said to the rep, “At what point does someone use common sense? If this contractor just told you two weeks ago that he needed this part to fix it and he put that part in and now, two weeks later the same part is bad again, clearly you know it’s not the part, right? It has to be the refrigerator that’s making this part go out.” Customer service sucks. They could not get a manager or supervisor. I kept getting offshore reps and they refused to transfer me. The rep also actually hung up in my face today.
My experience is horrible and I am extremely dissatisfied. If I buy more grocery and put it in that refrigerator and it goes out again, that will be the third time that I ruin hundreds of dollars in groceries. At this point, I'm just over it. I wasted money for the past two years paying American Home Shield for coverage and when I actually needed the services, they can't even render proper services.

I put in the claim, but AHS couldn't find anyone to fill the claim so they gave me authorization to find someone. But there was a lot of paperwork that had to be submitted, so it was a tedious process. I ended up calling around to different roofing companies until I found one that AHS partnered with. But they didn't know they partnered with this company. So, I was able to be the middleman. I just wish I wouldn't have had to be the middleman and they could have communicated directly with one another.

I bought this house in January of 2018 and got American Home Shield right away. They take the money right out of my account and I've been perfectly content. That was 70 and now, it's 83 a month. This includes electronics. Otherwise, it would be $10 less a month. I made a claim to them for the first time because the belt of my dryer broke. I called them and they told me the contractor, Daybreak, would call me. They sent me information with their number. I reached out to Daybreak but was told, “I haven't heard from American Home Shield yet. I'll get back to you.” He then came and he repaired the issue. It took several days but that got done and I was happy. Everything was fine.
10 days of that, the unit wouldn't turn anymore. The heat would come on but it made a weird, scary, loud noise. I called and the tech came out that day, February 7th. It only took him 15 minutes and he said that it needed a new motor but he didn't have the part and would submit a diagnostic. AHS would make contact and may send the part. That would probably take about a week.
I'm a very patient person. I let things go. But being out of the dryer is a real inconvenience. I expected not to hear from the tech until this week because I was hoping. By Friday, I had a household-related plumbing issue. Initially, I called American Home Shield because I didn't know that they didn't cover that. It turns out I have a different insurer that takes care of that.
As a result, I had that going on while I was on the phone with American Home Shield. We discussed the fact that I had this new issue. I knew it was premature because it wasn't even Monday of this week yet to find out. I was hoping to get the ball rolling on that in which the rep checked and she said, “I don't see where we've received a diagnostic from him yet.” I called a couple more times.
One of the times that I called, customer service put me on hold and they tried to reach the tech. One time, they got a voicemail. Somebody else called and spoke with him briefly. He said he would resend the diagnostic. I called back another time and spoke with Grace. She said there were no electronic mails or paper trail of sorts to show that the tech really sent the diagnostic.
To my understanding, the tech just stopped communicating. Originally, I was all about blaming him. But now, I'm all about blaming myself for being stupid to pay that much money month after month to American Home Shield. Now I'm going on the 10th day of no dryer. I live in an area that's relatively rural. I'm 20 miles from Melbourne and 20 miles from Vero Beach. The Daybreak guys that I had is down in Palm Beach, so it's a long schlep for him to come up here. I'm sure that's one of the reasons he doesn't want to. He's polite but he fibbed.
There are quite a few contractors locally for plumbing, heating, and appliance repair. If these local contractors were contracted with American Home Shield then there wouldn't be an additional burden of having a guy with his own startup business who's gonna have to spend whatever he's getting on his contract with American Home Shield on gasoline just getting to my house. Orlando is an hour and a half away and they'd have to go slightly more rural. Out here, one of the problems that everybody encounters is that there are contractors that maybe be fully licensed but are so deluged with work that they don't always follow through.
On the whole, American Home Shield has been gracious and they have attempted to help me. But I can't believe that my situation is so unique that they don't know what to do. Also, why do I keep having to be the one that initiates the call? They should be all over this when I've been very willingly allowing them to take money out of my checking account for 48 months or more. I understand that insurance is risk management, but they shouldn't drop the ball when the money has to go in the outflow instead of income.
It's very frustrating. I'm doing a load of clothes in my washer right now then I'm going to take it to my friend's house a mile away and get my drying done so I can dry my sheets and put them back on my bed. I have to be at work at 3 o'clock this afternoon until 10 o'clock tonight. I hate that this is a terrible inconvenience that's going on and on. As small a matter may be, I should be a valued customer. The home warranty seems like a good investment. But not when I do a claim, and it seems to be caught in the crack.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Robert and I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

There were a myriad number of things wrong with the house when I bought it and I ended up using Home Shield quite a bit. I love my service and I am so blown away by how competent and fair they are. The first claim was for a little mini fridge. That was not covered and I got my deductible back. When I had a sink issue, techs came and found that there was a hole in the pipe. The pipe was dissolved underneath the house. The issue was too big for the policy to fix.
I also had Home Shield fix my microwave. Whether you close or open the door, it would keep running or it wouldn't run. The techs fixed that. Home Shield fixed my front loader washer too. It started making this airplane-like noise when it started going to spin. The techs could not fix it and Home Shield couldn't offer me an appliance, so they were supposed to send me money. I still have not received that money. After I looked at the paperwork, it said it takes 21 days. On the whole, their assessment was fair and I should be able to get a comparably-priced washing machine for the amount.
I also used the home warranty when I had a ghost flushing toilet. There was a small bubble in the seal which would leak out a little bit of water. Over time, it was going back into the bowl and it would flush on its own or it would run then it would stop. It was driving me crazy. Home Shield sent out a great company that they had sent out before. Their tech fixed the issue and he showed my brother how he could fix it if it happens again.
Home Shield should have probably fixed my little mini metal wine cooler thing too but it wasn't in their list of appliances. Other than that, they are phenomenal. Anytime I had a question, I could call them. I always got somebody super friendly. Home Shield also uses top-of-the-line people. I had one or two contractors come out on my own before I decided to use the Home Shield and they were not good. Hopefully, I can afford to get the home warranty next year. I've been super happy with them and I would highly recommend them to anybody that's buying a house, especially the first year when you're just working out all the stuff hidden from you before you signed the final papers.

My favorite thing about it is that if something happens, I don't have to go through the hassle of trying to find the right person. I just go straight through them. The service comes pretty quickly. The technicians have done a pretty good job too. It's in the $800 to $900 range. But it paid for itself over the years so it's nice to have. We recently had an issue with the cooktop and oven and Sears came out. Essentially, the digital control board wasn't regulating the heat in the oven. We'd set the temperature to preheat and it wouldn't stop at that temperature. It would continue on until it got super-duper hot and caused errors. They replaced that board.

The toilet kept running and it needed not just the ball, but the apparatus inside and everything, and the tech that came fixed it. He was good. More currently, we had a refrigerator ice maker issue. Active Appliance was the company and I dealt with them, and I tried to call American Home Shield about three times and I never got through. I was just on hold, and I never got anybody. It happened just after Christmas, so it was over the course of about a month. Active Appliance did a video call first with my husband, and they said, "Yeah, we need to come out and look at it." So, they came out and looked at it and said, "Well, we'll put it in." The gentleman said, "There's a wire broken in the freezer door and we'll put it through American Home Shield. We have to get it approved." About a little less than two weeks later, American Home Shield called my husband and said, "We're not going to fix it. It's too full."
I asked my husband later when he told me that and I said, "What's too full, the freezer, the door? What?" He said, "I don't know. They just told me it was too full." So, I called Active Appliance and they said American Home Shield didn't approve it. When I asked why, they said, "We don't know. I'm going to read you everything that was in the report and everything that was in the report was wire broken, fix the door." So, that was when I tried to call American Home Shield several times to find out who told them it was full and ask what they meant that it was too full. I'm still without an ice maker. So, I'm not a happy camper on that issue.
It seems like nobody knows who said what was too full and why it can't be fixed. I even called Active Appliance again to get an estimate to have them fix it themselves and not go through American Home Shield. The gentleman told me it would take 24 to 48 hours. Nine days later, I called him back. I've got all the notes. A woman answered and said, "Oh, well, I don't have the estimate yet." I relayed the whole thing to her, and then she got it to me within 48 hours, and it was over $1,000. I said to her, "I can buy a whole new refrigerator for that." I only paid like 1,200 for this refrigerator and it's only three years old. So, I'm very disappointed at this moment. Prior to that, other than the annual fee going up almost every other year, we've had good service. The other things we've had have been pretty good. We've had Active Appliance out here before, too.
We've done stuff online and we know when we can just report, "This is broken. We need somebody." If we have to call in with a problem like this, I would like somebody to answer or to get back with me and help me solve the problem and understand why they won't cover it and who else can I go to to have them do it. I'm not paying $1,000 to Active Appliance to have it done. I'll make ice cubes in a tray before I'll pay $1,000. Neither AHS nor Active Appliance want to admit to having said it's too full and what does too full mean.
Through the 90s and the 2000s, we've had excellent service with AHS. They got back with us, the companies that they were sending to us explained things, and they were good companies that they sent us. Now, with this one incident, I've already asked my neighbor who she has and I'm looking into that coverage instead of American Home Shield. She said she had a broken ice maker and the company fixed it. I've let it lay dormant for a week only because my husband's deployed right now and I was not able to handle this situation. I'll be back at it tomorrow and if I don't get anything satisfactory from either AHS or Active Appliance, then I'm going to look elsewhere. AHS is just getting a little too expensive and a little too uncooperative and hard to get hold of.

The washing machine stopped working, so I called American Home Shield and and my experience with their rep was very good. They sent me a repair guy from Bert’s Appliance Repair and he came out three days after I made the call. He was here for 30 minutes and he said they had order a piece. But later on, they said they were going to replace the unit and that took almost three weeks.

My ceiling fan wasn't working and someone was able to come out and fix that issue. But I'm still waiting for them to find someone to fix my roof leak. When I first requested the service, it was a stressful process. American Home Shield sent somebody out to my house to look at the roof leak and they said that they were gonna be able to repair it. Then they called American Home Shield back and couldn't get anyone on the line but when they did, they said that they weren't gonna be able to do the repair. I had to talk to three different people on several different days before one person finally told me that I had signed up for a condo as my home instead of a home. So I had to restart my plan all over again because they said they couldn't just switch it over. After I switched it over and resubmitted the claim, I'm still waiting.

American Home Shield's claims process, the technicians and the process of setting it up were satisfactory, but it's annoying that you have to keep calling them back and doing the same thing and getting a request to have them to come out to do a work order to redo it. If you don't get it before they leave, it would be considered a recall and a new work order when one action calls a reaction. They keep charging you a fee when somebody has to come back for a recall and file it as something new when it could've been on the same work order.
I had a plumbing claim and the repair guys had to come back several times. When the tech cut my plumbing off, it caused the water to rush into another line and stopped the drain up, which caused me to have them come back. If he hadn't put the water off, I wouldn’t have had a problem in a bathroom that had nothing wrong with. So, that was a whole another process. With that process, I ended up spending four days off work. One was to get the problem stopped, one to get the problem back, then one to have a reaction to the action, and the last one was when they found out they had to come back. Still, overall, American Home Shield is proficient in relaying the message to get the work order.

What they set down to work on, the service was fine. However, they just went up another $10 a month. When we started two years ago, it was 49.50. They went up 20% that year, and then going up another 20%. So they've gone up 40% in two years, and we've had one claim. We paid $125 and we paid 50 to the guy to clean out the refrigerator. So we're very displeased with that. We’ll probably end up dropping AHS.

American Home Shield didn’t comply with my needs in some of the claims that I put in. I called one day and told the man to put an elbow on my sink for my washing machine. He told me I needed a new one for $700. So, I had to call another plumbing service. The guy said that all I needed was a new elbow for $175. I have senior citizens in my home and I have the stick knobs instead of the ones that they can grip with their hands. I called AHS and asked if they could replace the knobs on my sink and they told me they couldn’t do that. So, I had to go to Home Depot and buy some hand knobs that I had to have somebody else to apply for me. I am so disappointed with AHS. I was thinking a couple of times about dropping them but one of their customer service ladies talked to me and I decided to give them another chance. I stayed with them one more time. But the service was so poor. I don’t like it.

We had a leak and we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. We had to get a plumber to come and find it. We notified American Home Shield. Techs were gonna come on a certain date and we were also given the time. It was nice. A plumber came three days after. Communication with him was very positive and he knew what he was doing. He was very professional and courteous.
He ran upstairs to the first floor from the basement and found where the leak was coming from, which was the kitchen sink. That was very helpful. He told us, "You're gonna have to get new flooring with the cabinets. And then, after they're done, I can do the plumbing." We had to get our house insurance to come and do the job since the floor was already damaged. They did everything. Things are excellent now. On the whole, American Home Shield had been very professional, efficient, and had perfect timing with their service. I've been with them for 15 years because it's getting expensive to repair.

When I put the inquiry, the other providers kept calling back and it was almost like a pressure tactic. But I liked the way that Carrie, the service person with American Home Shield, dealt with me. Lately however, if I'm calling in, I'm not sure if I'm getting the right place or not. It's like a couple clicks happen on the phone then you have the operator come back. It seems like some of them are foreign operators. I don't know if my calls are getting hacked. I've had to disconnect a couple of times and recall. Another thing is I was locked out of my online account for quite a while and no one can seem to help me get it unlocked. That was one of the issues that I kept calling about that and they would say, "Let me see what I can check on my end,” instead of an IT person going to unlock or reset the password and send it to my email. I would love to get back into my account. I am looking to renew, so hopefully, I can resolve that issue before I do.
Recently, In Control Plumbing was sent out but I wish the repairman would have come a little sooner. I had to wait from the call out another four days before they could come out. But when he was there, he was within the timeframe. He let me know the problem and fixed it very quickly.

I've had the policy with American Home Shield for years. I've had two heating AC systems replaced, the house that I live in here and another house we had in Virginia. So, those are very expensive items. And if something like that breaks down, you don't want to have to go, "Oh, my gosh, how am I going to pay for this $2,000," or more. The product themselves, the cost is good. The service we end up getting in the end and savings has been awesome. But I have an issue with how AHS handles their customer service.
That same house in Virginia that had that system replaced in, we had it on the market for sale and we had a property manager and the real estate agent. But while it was for sale, there was a theft ring in the area that hit new homes, stealing the guts out of the machines, and we were one of the unlucky victims. So, I had to turn around and replace that system out of pocket. Even if we were living in a part-time, like a couple of months, we could have had it covered by AHS. That came out of our pocket that we didn't expect.
I've had a contractor out for our dryer three times. And this time, it turned out my dryer was running and I was like, "Oh, but it doesn't feel like there's heat coming. My clothes aren't drying." The air is running in it, but it's not warm. The guy came out, took it all apart, and he said a wire had come loose. So, he fixed that and I was good to go. Previous to that, it was a heating element that he replaced. He said the last time he came out the issue that I was having could have caused a fire in the future. So, me saying it was not working as well as it should, and them pulling it apart, noticing that, I was thankful for that. This last experience was very good. The contractor was great.
The problem that I have with AHS is sometimes the customer service side, with getting them to understand what you're doing. I called in within the last six months and I said I had light out in the front of my refrigerator. It is two to three years old, and it was something that was bugging my husband like, "Let's fix this light." And there could be something else going on because we bought the bulbs. It wasn't a matter of just changing the bulbs. They weren't working in it. They would blow out. So, something was wrong. I called that in.
At that time, the agent I spoke to was very good. She said, "Hey, while we're on, is there anything else that you have that might need to be looked at?" I said, "The dryer. My dryer's not behaving the way it should. It's taking longer to dry things." And she said, "Oh, great. That'll fall under the same kind of service call. They can do both." So, all I had to do was pay the one fee. I did. But it took a long time to get a contractor to come out and that was frustrating. So, I called back when I haven't heard anything in a few days and talked to a different person. The person stuck me on hold and I got the impression they didn't know what they were doing. We were driving somewhere at the time and I was just on this extenuating hold after her telling her, "I'm just trying to follow up what's going on, where are things at on this." I hung up.
The next thing I knew, a contractor came out, and I discovered that that person had put in a second trouble call, generating a second service fee. I contacted AHS because I was getting billed for the second one multiple times, finding that, "Oh, you have this fee. Well, we're looking into it." And I got the same story over and over again every time. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I could never do. I was just put around in circles. We must have followed up on this a few times and it was always the same thing.
And anytime, when I talk to different people, "Oh, I'll follow up with you, Miss Cindy. I promise to check back with you on this in so many days." I'd never hear back from them. When I hear that, I would say, "You sound very nice, you may mean well, but I'm never going to hear from you again." It happened so many that I had to call back. "Oh, this has to be investigated. Just go back and look at the notes and see this lady called in for these two items. Why was the second service fee put in? Why was the second thing generated when she'd already called about it and it hadn't been fixed?"
I've had many frustrating times. And if there was another viable choice, I've heard Sears is an option. I might go that direction. I have talked to different contractors over the years who said that they were with AHS, but would not be with them much longer because of the issues of trying to get through to someone.
They make it so hard on the customer service side for both the customer and for the contractor. I've had some very good people that are well-meaning that have explained things and taken care of. And I've spoken to some people that English isn't their first language, so they do not understand what I was saying. I couldn't communicate with them effectively. If they would just do the follow-through, they can get the call in, but just that person who put a second dispatch in there, she just looked at the notes and could have said, "Oh, she's following up on this call," not put another dispatch out. They put this product out there and they have these providers. I have been in the human services field and the one thing I was taught very early on is if I didn't notate it, it didn't happen. You have to have your notes in there to back up what you did.
The price has gone up and over the years and people may be like, "Okay, it's almost $100 a month to keep this home warranty." I did the plan that would cover a few more additional things. And for that price, it seems a lot. You may go through the first couple of years where nothing broke down, everything's wonderful. This past time, it turned out to be a wire. But next time, what if it turns out my dryer completely went kaput. My heating element's gone. If they couldn't fix it, then it's something that they replace. That's how it's written. So, just like with my AC heating system, they couldn't fix it. So, the system had to be replaced.
You are putting money away towards that time that something goes wrong. Since we moved in here, we'll have this house four years come this summer and the fridge and stove that we have bought since we moved in. What if my fairly new stove goes out? And I live out in the country. So, a lot of times if I just call out of pocket for myself, they would charge me a service fee for coming out here, even before they've looked at it. I'm being charged the mileage because they're going hourly. I'm 30 minutes out from town, 17 miles or so. So, I get charged a fee just for them driving out here. It's $50, $75 before they even look at your stuff. The parts that were needed to fix my dryer didn't seem astronomical, but it would have been something that was extra. So, instead of me paying that $100, it might have been $200. When you add in those fees, $100 is nothing in comparison to what you could end up paying. That's why we stick with it.

The guy was nice and ended up doing things little differently than we originally planned, which was good. The seasonal check for the HVAC unit was well done. It was a kid who came and he knew his stuff and explained it to us. However, I had a contractor come clean out the vents and what they offered wasn't fully what I expected. I wasn’t super pleased with that one. They didn't go all the way in the ductwork. They just went partway in. They said that would be a different service. On the deals that they offer, they need to be more explicit with the details of the work that they offer for the price that they're giving.

We've been with AHS for over 10 years in Midland and the service was outstanding. Our garage door thing broke and they came out and fixed it right away. However, we currently have an ongoing issue with our washing machine. We bought it the day after Thanksgiving, November of 17th. Less than two years later, on September of 19th, it broke and sucked the sheets, towels, pillowcases, pajamas, and tore them up. The entire computer component had to be replaced and it took a month to order the part.
I got COVID before the machine broke and I was hospitalized for 33 days. While I was there, a lady tech came back for the second visit to put the part. Then there was something wrong with the agitator. My mother said she crawled in the washing machine with her feet to pull it out. She didn't have the part, so had to order it. By the time she came back, my mom was hospitalized with me. Our neighbor let her in the house and she replaced the agitator with a newer version. Then when she test ran it, my neighbor didn't think it was fixed because it was making a horrible loud noise. But she went ahead and left.
I got out of the hospital on October 25th and I was still too sick to do anything. After a week, I washed clothes, and in the first load, the machine made a horrible loud noise. I called my neighbor and he said that it was the noise it made when the lady tech was here. I called that company back out and they sent another technician saying these machines were crap and he would see all the time where they would suck up clothes. Apparently, they didn't like his report because he thought we needed a new washer, so they sent the lady tech back. She looked under the machine and replaced something totally different. It worked for about three weeks. But then it grabbed a zip pillowcase and ripped it to shreds as well as the zipper part and those were stuck in the machine.
I called AHS again and this time a Sears man came out and used his pliers to pull those pieces of metal out. He said he checked the computer component on the top and it said everything was okay. The next morning, I washed another load of sheets and pillowcases and the same thing. I called AHS back and told them that the issue kept happening. They said they would just replace it and get a cost estimate from the man at Sears. Well, this went on for two months. I kept calling and saying that we haven't gotten the report from him. Every time, I spoke to a different person.
A lady there told me that the Sears man said that there was nothing wrong with it and he didn't make any repairs that's why he didn't give a cost estimate. I told her that he made a repair, he had to get his pliers and pull the stuff apart, and then he said it was okay. She insisted what the Sears man said. I told her that the man was lying and they should send another technician out to see the problem. I took pictures immediately when it happened and have it documented and my phone showed the time and the day of when it sucked the other pillowcases in there.
She then said I would be charged $70 to $80. I told her I won't keep paying to send somebody out when I keep reporting the same issue. She said that this was in December and it's been two months. They have to charge me as it was closed. I told her that I called them the very next day and they said that no technician needed to come out and see it again and they would just get a cost estimate to replace it. The lady would not work with me so I said to give me one of her supervisors. She did that and I told the lady the issue and what had happened. She finally said that they will not charge me and they will send another repairman out to see it.
When the repairman came this past Monday, the same pillowcase was right there waiting for him to see. I also showed him the pictures that I've taken and the dates that it happened. He tested the machine and said that he had never seen this before. I told him that the other three technicians that have been here said they see it frequently and that it's a flaw in the design and it will never be able to be repaired.
He checked the history and called Whirlpool, and sure enough, the woman from his company that came and replaced the agitator put the updated one in there. So, even with the updated agitator, it grabbed clothes and zipper. He said that it must be friction. He re-tested and said that it was not getting enough water so it was grabbing the clothes when they were dry. Then apart from the computer component that was replaced, there's yet another piece that controls the water level back behind that top of the machine that needs to be replaced as well.
He called Whirlpool, they called him back, and they agreed they want him to replace that piece. They think if that has enough water, it won't be grabbing the clothes. I told that man that they keep on guessing and I don't want him to replace any more parts. The technicians have been here six times and we've paid around $300 just for them to keep coming out. Then I asked how much are these parts that are being replaced. He said that with the visits and the parts, it already cost more than a new machine would. I went to Speed Queen and they have an older kind that I want that has the knobs and doesn't have all the computerized push-button stuff. But the place here in Temple had a six-month waiting list. We had so much trouble with getting them, we ordered an entire truckload.
I called AHS again and told them about it. The lady said that there is one department that has to decide whether to replace the machine or not. I said that they already told me in December that they would replace it and they just wanted the technician to give them the cost of a replacement. The machine is around $1,000 to $1,100 and the Speed Queen is 1,299 without tax and without the hoses and they have to buy for it. But she said we would see what the department would say and I could tell them. Overall, I am not pleased right now. To go on this long without having a decent washing machine has been so crazy.

Our air conditioning unit kept running on and it wouldn't turn off. It wasn't blowing any cold air, and I was able to get it to turn off by switching it on and off. When a company finally came out and assessed the situation, they made it worse for me. They came out twice. The second time they came, I said, “Did you blow out the condensation line?” They said, “No.” There were no stains before, but after they did whatever they did and left, the water overflowed and stained all over my ceiling, which I still have and it's upsetting. I have to have the whole ceiling redone now, for which I didn't put in a claim or do anything about ‘cause I figured I'm not gonna get anywhere with that.
On top of that, the company said that my unit needed a board at that point. I said to the tech, “Can you order that today, like right away so that I don't have to wait additional time for you to get the parts and all that and get approval?” It seemed like he was upset that I even asked him that. He said, “I’ll call it in when I get back.” I said, “Okay. Whatever.”
We had a heater problem where that heater wasn't working either. We weren't using ac, but it was the furnace. The other furnace, the one for the bedrooms, was working fine before then it didn't work and I didn't know why. Until somebody else came out, we had no furnace in the bedrooms either, and it was the dead of winter at that time. It was freezing. The tech said that it needed a new board as well then I got a call from the owner of the business the next day. He said, “Well, we can't do it because it's too small of a space and our guy’s too big. We don't have anybody small enough to do it, so we're gonna turn it back to American Home Shield.” I said, “Okay. Great. Now, I have to wait again for somebody to come out and diagnose it and the whole bit.”
Somebody else came out the next time, and it was Chris who's about 6’4” and probably 250. He's bigger than the other guy who came out, and he diagnosed the same thing. He was really good. He told us that the reason why the furnace for the bedrooms wasn't working was 'cause the gas was turned off, which I think the first tech did out of spite. Chris got the parts ordered and brought out a second guy who was training when he got the parts. But Chris was the one who went up in the attic and replaced the board. He's a big guy, and he did the work. I really respected and appreciated the work that Chris did, and I've only good things to say about him.
My sales rep for American Home Shield is wonderful as well, and she's been very helpful for me. If I have issues, I can go to her and she's usually able to intervene. Sometimes she's able to get things done a little quicker, but it's still at the mercy of how the system works, which is the problem. Most of the vendors don't wanna be doing it because they don't get paid that much compared to a normal job that they may do. And then the system is that they have to give their findings to American Home Shield. American Home Shield has to approve it and let them know then they have to order the parts, and once the parts come back in, they have to make another appointment to come back out.
The problem with the process is the timeliness is really bad. It takes way too long. If I didn't have a home warranty and I just called for service, I would get things resolved a lot of times in one day, whereas with the home warranty, it may take 10 days. My wife hates American Home Shield, but I'm a Realtor as well and I know what's happening from my perspective of being a Realtor.

My HVAC area was icing up and the tech from Greenway Home Services told us that even though it's 70 degrees out, the unit is not used to going back and forth with the different weather temperatures. Then at nighttime, the weather drops and that's why it kept freezing up. He explained what to do and I've been doing it ever since. The unit hasn't done anything bad since then.

My furnace was no longer working and I had some gas leaks the week before. So the gas company came out and turned off my gas. Then I had to have a plumbing company come out there, find the gas leak, and fix the gas leaks. After that, the gas people came back out, made sure that all the leaks were fixed, and they turned my gas back on. The guy said that when they did all that, it made all the gunk mess with some type of valve that made the valve break.
They had to order a piece then they came out a couple of days later and put that piece on. The guy said that the gas wasn't getting through the furnace because that piece is broken and since they replaced it, my gas was back to working in my furnace. I submitted this claim online with AHS and their website was very fairly easy to use. Then I received an email and a text message. So American Home Shield contact me and so did the company that came out. The techs I had were awesome. They were very easy to deal with, very timely and courteous.

Eagle Heating and Air recently came out for my HTG system. They’re just waiting for a part for them to finish it. But the good part about it was that they fixed it enough for me to have heating in this cold. I’m glad I signed up with this warranty when I did. It went up a couple of dollars since I got it. But it's still a reasonable consideration in case something goes wrong.

Our pool pump wasn’t turning on. There was no water circulation. The website of AHS was user-friendly when I filed a claim. You just go in, file the claim, click what's wrong, and submit your information. The tech called to find out what exactly was wrong and then he called and set the appointment up with me. He was excellent. He came out next today. He tried to find out in advance what could be wrong so he could bring the parts with him. In this case, once he investigated it, he had to go pick up the part. But he came right back. He was very professional and on time. AHS was really easy to deal with. It’s a good value for the money I pay. We always recommend others to use them.

We submit claims through an online form, then American Home Shield reaches out to the contractor, and so far, it's been 50/50 satisfaction. There have been a couple times where we put in a claim and haven't heard anything ever. They just canceled the claim that we put in with them. We said, "Obviously, don't want to come out. Forget it." The ones for our pool and for some electric work, we had to pay out of pocket. They needed to be fixed.
This last time, there was a plug in our septic mainline and the guy called us right back as soon as the next business day happened. He showed right up too. I thought it was gonna be a huge ordeal of an issue, but it was 20 minutes and he had it fixed. It ended up being a basic clog and he just had to roto-rooter it out with a blade rotor. When we first got American Home Shield, I said, "If we have a problem, it'll be covered," but it's almost been useless for us. It seems like a lot of the problems we have, the company tries to weasel out of covering anything. This last time they came out, but we've wasted a lot of money filing other stuff that were denied.

I had a claim on the heating unit and I did it early morning on American Home Shield’s website. They called me back a couple hours later to get someone scheduled. It was quick. At first, the unit wasn’t working but eventually, it started working on its own. But I had to call the tech out a second time because my house still wasn't heating. He came out a second time and it still wasn’t heating but then we got up the next morning and tried, and it started working. I may have to call them out a third time. But other than that, everything else was fine.

Having American Home Shield gives me peace of mind. I'm not sure if it's always a good deal, but I do not have to worry about getting slapped with a big deal. The biggest benefit is not having to find a contractor. It's impossible to find a contractor today. Nobody wants to work. When I have a problem, AHS finds me someone. If the guy comes out and messes up, which I've had happen, they find someone else to come do it. They're really good with it. I have two contracts with AHS. Recently, the only two years old heater went out in our brand new house. The guy came out and pulled everything apart. He found a clogged pipe, shook it, cleaned it out and then the heat started working again. It was worth it because it was not giving me heat for five weeks.
American Home Shield's claim process is pretty simple. They have a webpage if you don't want to talk to someone. You can just go through it, submit a claim, and check the boxes about exactly what you want looked at. I usually get, within a few hours, an email and a call. The only time I've ever had trouble is during the holidays. I had a heater break years ago and it took days. It's not easy to get someone to come out on Christmas week. So, I wasn't happy with them that week, but that was years ago. So, I've had time to reevaluate that it's really not reasonable.
One of my favorite things about American Home Shield is they don't bother me. I don't hear from them trying to sell me additional crap. They don't do telemarketing. As long as they get paid and even if they don't get paid, they are not jerks about it. I had it where I didn't pay them, and I had an incident. I hadn't realized that I was like two months in the rears, and they still did the service and covered it. They just asked me to pay the fee first. I really thought they could have said, "You're screwed. You didn't pay your monthly fee." They still took care of it.

I had issues with two of the toilets. The first company came out and the guy said he fixed it. I wanted the water flow to be stronger and he said there was nothing he could do and it was just how the system was. But a month later, I ran into the same problem. I reached out to Home Shield again, and this time, they sent The Lindsay Company, and I was very much satisfied with them. The guy fixed the toilet that was having the issue. Actually, it was part of the mechanism that needed to be changed and he explained to me in detail what he exactly did, which I really appreciated. He also fixed the water flow which the other guy told me couldn't be fixed. He explained what he had to do with that as well.
I had a leakage under my sink that needed to be fixed also. The guy looked at it and said that it was an HVAC issue so an AC/heating guy needed to come out. He was nice enough to file that with American Home Shield. When I called American Home Shield, they confirmed that the guy told them that and they sent the AC guy to fix the issue. The only thing is that when I placed a complaint saying that since the first company couldn't fix the same issue that the Lindsay company fixed, I deserve a $100 refund. They said they couldn't do that, so that was disappointing.

The toilet in my guest bathroom was backed up bad. I was able to remedy the situation with the resources I have at home, but not this time. So American Home Shield found the contractor for me. They used a pressurized CO2 gun and it released the backup from the toilet. It pushed things a little further down the pipeline. But they did resolve the situation and we were able to use the toilet afterward. But two days later, I had to put in another claim to have someone come out because we weren't able to use any of the restrooms. So I went to American Home Shield, but they were taking too long to find a contractor. So I ended up canceling the request and just finding someone by myself and paying them. Everything is working great now.
Since I pay American Home Shield monthly and then I have to pay an additional 130 to submit the request and for them to dispatch a contractor out to your home, I wish the turnaround times were sooner than what they have been. I have children and we weren't able to brush our teeth or use the restroom or shower. We had to go to my mom's house. In a situation like that, I can't wait two or four days. By the third day, I cancelled the claim and then I found someone who came out the same morning I called. So I'm not really happy with the last two claims. I was without hot water for over 11 days. When I called American Home Shield to inquire about it, the person on the line told me about the cash option. I never knew that they had a cash option, which benefited me because it allowed me to get a contractor and put that water heater in. But I had a contractor come in and put one in. I talked to him on Saturday and he had it in my house Monday afternoon. But it does get a little frustrating with the process. I'm waiting now for my cashback because I did the cash option thing I sent them.
Another issue was the amount of money on both sides that I had to pay out because I'm paying out $60 per month to have a contract, then $100 if I call for something so I can talk to them. Then on this particular contract, I had to purchase three parts that cost $635 because American Home Shield didn't cover them. But they covered the water heater, which was the cheapest part that was needed.
There are a lot of little parts that are not covered in the contract. I spent close to $1,000 to get a repair done. If those so-called parts are not covered, then I'm questioning why I have a contract. It takes more than 72 hours to actually get the air conditioner fixed. Then in the case right with the water heater, the plumbing company would have gone 13 days because he finally came back and said, "Hey, I have a confirmation that the water heater would be in that Tuesday," and he could give me an appointment for Wednesday. But we don't know what's happening out there and if it would arrive Tuesday or not. But here I was on Monday and it was almost 10 days and my family and I were without water. That was totally unacceptable to me.
When the heating element in the dryer went out, the tech came out and repaired it. Then he said, "That's it. Call somebody to get somebody to do the vents." But everything around the vent caused it to not heat properly. So, that caused the heating element to go out. If you come down and fix the dryer, you should look at everything within that dryer that's mixed up and you should've fixed it. You should fix everything around that's causing that dryer to not heat up.

Overall, I like the warranty program with American Home Shield. It's a great program. The representatives are great.

It made ice for a day, and then it didn’t, so I called American Home Shield back. They sent him out again. He re-diagnosed the problem and found that the refrigerator couldn’t be fixed ‘cause a line kept freezing up. He put a report in and ordered me a new fridge.

Cool Heatings was excellent. The unit wouldn't fire up. The fan broke, so they needed to put a new fan in. They had to order parts and come back. But I've had a significant amount of problems with American Home Shield for stuff that's out of the repair guys’ wheelhouse. On an appliance like a washing machine, a dryer, a microwave, a dishwasher, or a rangetop, they're perfect. But when you get into the air conditioning side, it's a little trickier. They assigned us an air conditioning contractor that does not work on those type of units. The guys were idiots and they sent them 50 miles away. We finally got through the bureaucracy of allowing to call a local guy. They gave us two, three guys. We called those guys, and they made a deal with American Home Shield. They finally got the unit fixed but that took months. I had tenants that got aggravated.
When I couldn't figure out why my garage door is unprogrammed, I thought I'd pay the $133, have American Home Shield send a professional out here, reprogram the door and get it figured it out. The guy showed up and said, “We don't work on these doors. Goodbye.” I got charged 133 bucks and they said the issue was addressed but the door is still broken. I should call them and get a credit. When you have to call their service center, they give you the same thing off the computer. They dispatch out to a country overseas and we get chickens in the background. But they're very respectful on the phone and try to help you. Overall, the whole service is great and I recommend them all the time. I have it on my rental. I would put them on all my office buildings, but they don't do commercial.

The actual garbage disposal wouldn't cut on. I tried my best to do what I could, but, first it would get stuck, and then it just wouldn't come on, so we thought we just needed a new one. But before we did that, we decided to call American Home Shield to see if they could send somebody to fix it. The technician came out and troubleshoot it.
As he was doing that, there was an Allen wrench and he showed me what size and what I needed to take it in, and if it doesn't, put it underneath the garbage disposal, and if it doesn't move, that means there's something lodged and I need to go in and pull that out. He went in and he pulled out all of it, then he checked it again and it started moving freely down there. He turned it on and it worked perfectly. He fixed it and he gave me insight on how to fix it in any case this happens again. I recommend having a policy with AHS. They had a technology service package and when having a service request, they have a better response rate.

Recently, one of the coils was bad and they had to replace it. It would have been a $1,600 expense, and it cost me a service call. That was a good deal. The techs were the best. One of them came back on a Saturday 'cause he was going to be in my neighborhood to check and see. Because we are in the middle of winter and freezing cold that it still was putting out enough heat. That was above and beyond the call of duty.
AHS was on it. One phone call and here we go. It was quick and precise. It was in the middle of a storm and it was freezing cold. For oldish people like me, it was really important, and I really appreciate it. It's the security of a fallback situation that you have that confidence that you're not going to be surprised and especially if you're on a fixed income. AHS is well worth the monthly that we pay and everybody treated me very kindly. The people that they referred to me are literally the best. It doesn't get any better.

I requested "plumbing" services and the "plumber" came out and didn't fix the issue. I contacted AHS and they sent him out again. The issue is still not resolved and they have charged me an additional serv request fee. I contacted the cust serv and that was a joke. I got placed on hold, mute and was given conflicting information. I still owe them $75, and my plumbing issue is still not resolved $150 later. I do not recommend this company and I am not sure how they have these ratings.

American Home Shield is a scam company. We received a home warranty for our new home as a house warming gift from our realtor. Within two months of moving in our oven broke. We called AHS and it took them over 3 months to "repair" the oven with a "refurbished part" which the contractor told us would not work, but that they were required to install per AHS. Sure enough, after waiting, without a working oven, for over 3 months the "refurbished" part broke. We have now been waiting another 4 months, and they refuse to replace our oven, instead they are trying to replace it with another "refurbished part". When we refused the refurbished part and instead demanded a full replacement of the oven, as promised by them, they refused to give us more than the $375 for the refurbished part.
Now, because our warranty is about to expire (keep in mind we have been without a working oven for 6 months of the 1 year contract with them) they are claiming that we did not request the reimbursement and the work order was completed. They are quite literally trying to push us past our warranty expiration so they can claim they don't have to pay us the measly $375 for a broken oven that costs over $1200 to replace! They have also charged us $100 every time it's broken, to NOT fix it, so really, they're refusing to pay us $175 for a $1200 oven. They farm out their customer service to people who barely speak English and then refuse to transfer us to supervisors or anyone who can actually help us, instead saying we have to keep running in circles in barely understandable English. They are 100% scam artists out to take your money. DO NOT PURCHASE an American Home Shield Warranty. They are charlatans and thieves.

They ran it all the way through and cleaned it out and explained some things that I need to not do, like throwing toilet paper. That was what clogged it up. They checked all of the bathrooms before they left. Once I call and report a claim with AHS, someone calls me up and then they set me up an appointment. The company that they want me to use, calls me too and sets up an appointment. I'm not worried about the company that they're sending out. AHS sends good people out.

The very first time when we moved into this house at the beginning of June 2021, I reached out to American Home Shield for our plumbing situation. It was an emergency, and I have an elderly mother. We were literally using a bucket out in our garage for everybody to go to the bathroom in. My freezer also quit working in which the appliance person came out for that, but I ain't heard anything back from American Home Shield. Now, I have no heat in this house, and it's been a good four to five weeks and I still have nothing done. They sent two separate people out that I was getting nowhere with.
I could have a better experience and reach out to my own people to come out and get things done a lot faster than paying and working with this warranty. I don't think I want to renew my contract with them. It's me constantly calling these companies and American Shield hasn't reached out. They need to choose better companies that they want to provide us with service.

I had to have the contractor come out twice. What I'm finding out now is misinformation. They did not have proper equipment. They made various, just wide claims, such as with the one commode. The issue came up a third time. I wasn't willing to go back, even though through American Home Shield the cost was less expensive. They never dug the ground. They never looked for a pipe. They went on the roof twice, did a roto-rooter, and said, “You're good to go,” and were just not communicative.
I called the city because I had been advised to have them come and flush the city side and see if the issue was on their side. And so, they did that and got the information that it wasn't on their side. I talked to this 60-year old gentleman who has been in the business since he was 15 years old and explained to him some of the things that the contractor said to me. He was very gracious, but he shook his head in disgust. The actual guys that came were not good. But Mike, the owner, was incredibly nice, responsive, and accommodating to try and get somebody out here. His sons were in the business. He's retired. Because his sons were busy, he showed up the same day and dug the ground up to find the pipe. They came after they got back from the city. They were at half-hour away with cameras to be able to go into the pipes to see what the problem was. American Home Shield is incredibly helpful every time I call.

There was a leak in my ceiling. The first time, the company came a few minutes before their appointment. The guy called me and I was dropping my daughter at school and it would take me 10 minutes. He said that he couldn't wait. I told him that I was expecting them between this block and block. So then, he left. I had to reschedule again. Then I was locked out of the house when he got there. It's been a back and forth. But they haven't really gotten the chance to assess the situation yet.
Then every time I schedule them, I have to pay $100 and I'm barely scraping to do so. If I miss an appointment or if something happens, there's no room for negotiating, although I understand because it's a third party that they're sending out and they have to pay for their time. But that'd be my only hiccup. This time around, I made another appointment and I'm just waiting on them to call to schedule hoping that I can actually get them to really look at the issue. Other than that, I like that I won't have to worry if something breaks down. Just being able to have everything under one hub helps if I need someone to fix things. I don't have to contact or try to research and find these different people to come out.

I just had an issue with one of their vendors and after they came to our house, I looked up their Google reviews and it seemed like any time they dealt with the warranty, they did a really bad job for some reason. If anything, AHS should vet their vendors better and see what kind of reviews they're getting because it was clear as day that, online, American Home Shield customers were not happy with this particular vendor. I ended up going with a different vendor and they were able to fix the issue that I had. So, I'm happy about that. What happened was that one of the sump pumps I had in my basement was going bad periodically. The first guy said he wasn't going to change it and the second guy said that it was pretty old, but they could get it changed. Then, I had an issue with my oven and stovetop. The techs did some tweaks to it and they're still waiting on a part. I believe they're going to fix it soon, but it's still under not reconciled.

The locking mechanism when you close the dishwasher door broke. So when we started to run the dishwasher, it started to leak a lot of water because it wasn't latched. We went online and submitted a request. The tech was really quick. When he came the first time, he didn't have the part, but he was able to fix it enough to the point we can use it, which was really good because I hate not having a dishwasher. Then he ordered the part and as soon as the part came in, they called us and came back out and fixed the latch. Everything's good. We would have had to pay $300 to get a little latch fixed. So it was nice to only have to pay that $75 to get someone to come out. Having American Home Shield is also cool. They get everything set up with the company for you. So they contact the company, and the company calls you to set up the appointment. I like that.

We've had a few different things that we've had to put in service requests for. There have been some confusions, we've had extra claims open, and took a while for them to get closed. Every time we call, we got to go through the whole spiel of everything that's going on, then AHS puts us on hold, and they try to get ahold of other people, and then they come back. It's hard to get anything done or get ahold of somebody that gives us a solid answer on anything. I've spoken to one of the managers, Amanda, and she's been awesome. But as far as the general people when we call the number, they've been pretty difficult.
I'm still waiting for our claim to be addressed. We went through one company. They came out and replaced a part and it didn't fix the issue that we had. We weren't getting anywhere with them too. We asked American Home Shield to switch the company for us. They found another one that we set an appointment for this afternoon. They ended up coming in the morning when nobody was home. We've been trying to get ahold of them all day to see if they were still coming back and their number is no longer working. We haven't heard anything back. We've been here for almost two months and still no hot water. Nobody's been able to take a bath or a shower here.

My air conditioner was out and American Home Shield sent someone out to look at it back in March of last year. It took almost a year to resolve it. First, the contractor said they couldn't find the part. Then, they said that they were going to look at replacing it because they couldn't find the part. When they found the part, the first contractor said that he didn't want to do the job. So AHS had to source someone from three hours away. It was bad.
I spoke with customer service at least twice a week for nine months and it was like hitting your head against the wall. They said it was being looked at and it would be reviewed. I asked to speak to a supervisor or a manager but they didn't do that. They couldn't transfer me to anyone. I had to wait on a phone call that never came, and then I’d call back. Although it is resolved now, I had to pay out of pocket several thousand dollars. The contractor that I work with said that they would pay for the parts but I have no proof of that.

The seal around one of the refrigerator doors started to fall apart. So I filed a claim, then the person came over and inspected it. It was a quick diagnostic. It needed a part replacement, so he ordered the part. The part took over a month to arrive. Then he came back and replaced it. He was professional and had good communication as well. But for the overall claim process, I wish there was a way for me to submit more information. I didn't see a way to submit pictures or videos, or at least ways to even submit a description. For some of these things, especially something like the fridge door seal replacement, it didn't need the person to come directly. I know American Home Shield does offer remote diagnostics, but I was not offered the option to set that up before the person arrived. Also, American Home Shield is very persistent in terms of getting consumers to renew with them. Over the span of two weeks, I have gotten about 16 calls.

Besides the price going up since we've had American Home Shield for 20 years, they're good most of the time. I had the men fix my toilet from leaking, but when they came out, it wasn't leaking. Then four months later, it was leaking again and that happened several times. But I never kept calling them back. They came back twice for that over the last 10 years. But it would just leak again. I have to start all over and pay the 75 bucks again. So I stopped doing that and it just leaked. I would wipe it up with a towel.
We had a claim for my microwave and Buster Appliance came out. It took a long time to get them to come and look at my microwave. But they did a good job. After the guy came and looked at the microwave, he told me the part had to be ordered, which took a long time. It took a month to get the part and then we had to get him over here. So, it was really a long process and I was disappointed. But it wasn't Buster Appliance’s fault.
The claims process has always been pretty good. American Home Shield is pretty good at telling you what's covered and what isn't. Unfortunately, I'm not really internet-savvy. I'm 60 years old. A lot of times now, they want you to go on the internet. I still get the old book out and call them on the phone. If you have an older home, you absolutely need a house warranty. The warranty that I have has saved me a lot of money with the problems I've had so far, and I have an older home. I would recommend American Home Shield, but one has to take them with a grain of salt. I'm thoroughly happy with all the services I've had, and I've had no issues with any of the contractors. They've been extremely helpful. I've had two plumbers here. The recent one tightened a bolt on my water heater and I got hot water back. He was very good, nice and knowledgeable.
On the other hand, American Home Shield can do a lot with their customer service. They are horrible. It's difficult to get ahold of them to even schedule an appointment. They also need to get somebody that can speak English because the girls that I talked to were all Hispanic and they acted like they couldn't understand what I was saying to them. I don't know if that's something they do because they understand what I'm saying, or it's truly something that they need to work on to have someone that speaks English to talk to you. It's frustrating.
I had an incident where I had Rockland Plumbing come because the drain in my basement and my toilet were not working. I also asked customer service to add on my bathroom sink because I had a leak in it. The girl acted like she didn't know what I was talking about and they would not add on the sink. They would charge me another $125 for another service call, which wasn't happening because that was ridiculous. They're not very communicative too. They said they'd call or send me a text or an email, and they never sent any of that stuff. They don't follow up with what they say they're gonna do.

At first, American Home Shield was okay, but lately, I've been a little disappointed with them. I had a claim for my dishwasher and dryer. Liberty Appliance and Repair came out in December then they came back again in January and fixed the dishwasher. The dryer’s still not fixed. They said the reason that that hadn’t been fixed is they had tried to call me but couldn’t get me to see if I still wanted the door. But I thought once I told them I wanted the door and signed the paper, that was it.
American Home Shield had also sent somebody out to do my plumbing to fix my garbage disposal. But they said it wasn’t covered. They said there was a foreign object in there. I had to go out and buy another one. Then I had to pay to have it put in. So far, Liberty is all right. But I don't think the one with the garbage disposal cares. They were told to fix my garbage disposal and a leaking faucet in my bathroom and in my kitchen, but they are leaking again. They also sent an electrician out who was supposed to fix my outside back light. He checked it and said there was nothing wrong with it. But the light still is not working.
My brother and some of my friends from church had American Home Shield and they were telling me that it was a good thing to have if something broke down because they were fixing items. If they couldn’t fix the item, they will replace it. But they hadn't replaced nothing yet. They could get better people that care and make sure that the problem gets fixed. If they can’t fix it, don't wait two or three months to tell the homeowner that they can't fix it, and the homeowner has to go out and buy it.

The plumber who came out when water wasn't draining in the bathroom sink had the right tools. But at one point in time, it was almost going to be a bad experience. American Home Shield had told me I had coverage on everything, including electronics, like the TV. When I had to file a claim on it, it was being a headache. They have representatives that call you trying to get you to get these plans but when it's time to get some work done, it's an issue. They took care of it but it was taking a while for me to get my reimbursement.
The other thing was they advertised to come and do free tune-ups on the heaters, but they never sent anybody out when I talked to them. The last representative I spoke with about it told me, "Just turn on your heater and if you have any problems, then call us." She said that it was more imperative that they get to people whose heaters weren't working at all versus those customers who needed them to come out to do a tune-up or check it out before they started using them when we started getting that cold weather.

So, I wanted to have it checked out. I used the app to submit a claim with AHS and it was very easy and straightforward. Then I received a notification on the app and an email about the contractor. The tech who came out was very professional and spent a good amount of time with the repair. He looked around to make sure that he didn't see any signs of leaking and ever since he was out, I haven't really noticed any more problems with the water not holding the water level. All in all, the warranty is worth having.

Our dishwasher needed service. I called American Home Shield, scheduled a service technician. It's fixed. It's been repaired. The tech was very good.

Our hot water wasn't working. I called and put a claim in with American Home Shield. Once I told them I was needing service, I was assisted and the rep was really nice. When I called the service company, we had to reschedule for a time I was at the house. I've had my home warranty for a while now and I'm very happy. Go with American Home Shield because they're very knowledgeable, number one, and professional. They're very courteous and kind. Everybody they send out works with me and they know exactly how to explain everything so it makes sense to me. They always come on time too.

My refrigerator is still not working. It needed to be cleaned out. The contractor also said it looked like my coil might be going out. But we need to call American Home Shield and put another order in because the tech just fixed it and it's starting to make that noise again. I have spent $75 every month, and $75 to get a service free to come out. And every time they come out, if they don't fix it, they just continue to send people out. It was one time where our refrigerator was out for three months, they did not ask to give us a small refrigerator. My daughter had medicine, I got a baby. I had to buy a small refrigerator to put the milk in. I had to buy an ice cooler because they told me that they were coming out, but they never did. It took them three months to get the problem fixed.
I always thought that American Home Shield was a ripoff. But my wife and I moved into a 3,000 square-foot house. She said, "I want to make sure that we're good." We're paying what we play. And after we ran into the incident with the three months, we had a technician come out from a repair store and we were told that the amount that we paid to get the refrigerator repaired, if we gave him $200 on top of that, the refrigerator would have been fixed. So, that's almost 180 bucks. That's high. He said, "How much have you paid on having people to come out and look at this refrigerator?" I didn't even realize it until he said it, that we spent $75 four times on this refrigerator. That's 300 bucks, it's still not fixed and they don't want to replace the refrigerator. They didn't send me anything to reimburse me for buying a $1,000 refrigerator. I would never purchase AHS again.

The rekey was scheduled quickly and the tech did a good job. I had a claim on my furnace and it was quick too. The tech went, got parts and fixed it.

I called American Home Shield to put the claim in but apparently my service wasn't activated yet because the check got lost. Then, they found the check and I could make an account and request service. So, after that, everything went swimmingly. There were some switches that weren't working right and those light fixtures in the basement where the pull chain had snapped off. One of the lights in the living room was apparently badly wired and a few other little things. There's a bigger one that I would have liked to gotten fixed but apparently, it was not covered.
There were some minor squirrel damages to my electrical system in the garage too. The guy who fixed the electric issue said that it’s covered if something breaks from natural wear and tear, not if an animal gets in there and munches on it. I might have been wrong. Still, the rekeying went great. I was not aware that it was $100 per service request though. But beyond that, everything's been great.

Requesting for service from American Home Shield was okay. The only thing was the in-between time where no one called us right away to say they were gonna schedule something. We went a whole weekend wondering if a person was gonna come or not. They finally emailed me and we scheduled something. The scheduling piece was a little lacking. I showed the tech in a picture of what happened and he said to open the vent. We then had heat. The guy was really knowledgeable and he knew his stuff. We got the home warranty in August and this was our first time putting the heat on. We didn't realize that the vent was closed.

My toilet's tank wouldn't fill back up, and the techs that came through AHS did an excellent job. American Home Shield is a good option. The only thing is they don’t do the whole air conditioning. It was something that they stopped doing for the air conditioner. I can’t remember what it is that they don’t cover on that, but it seems like they should just cover the whole thing.
