They’ve been great contractors on all the service calls. In all the time that we've dealt with American Home Shield, we've never had a bad contractor. We’ve always been very pleased with who they've sent. It’s always been fairly quick and efficient. The coverage has been pretty good for issues that have had to have been done. So far, we’re very pleased and this is the second home that we’ve had American Home Shield. When our water heater started leaking, it was replaced. All we had to pay was the service call. But then, we had to deal with our waterline. It was not up to code and it was $145. So it was very minor in comparison to the work that was done.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs.
Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed.

I've been happy with American Home Shield generally. Sometimes, it's not the easiest depending on the job and what we're dealing with and there are a lot of steps to go through. With replacing something, like air conditioning, you need to get somebody out and you need to get them to determine that it needs to be replaced. Then, you need to get American Home Shield to agree. When they agree, of course, not everything's covered. You have to get the technician to tell you how much is not covered and how much you have to pay. Much of the extra that you pay is for modifications on whatever is hooked up to be up to code. Some of these costs vary dramatically. So, it's out of the control of American Home Shield since they're only paying for the equipment and the installation. And then, they turn around and they say, "Well, what about a cashout?"
The last situation I had is, "Okay, for the inside-outside full air conditioner with install, we'll give you less than $1,000." "What?" Those units cost $2,000 apiece, plus install. So, you're probably getting $2,500 worth of equipment when somebody does it, but they only give a cashout for less than half of that for whatever reason. So then, you're stuck with "do I take $1,000 and get somebody who's more honest in giving me the extra stuff to code to deal with, or am I losing money because they're not paying a full cashout for the value of the equipment?". Those are issues that you deal with American Home Shield and with the provider they have. So, it's good, but it's difficult.
Recently, techs came to one of my properties to repair a refrigerator that had stopped cooling. They identified the problem on the first contact and they fixed it. Then, they said, "You got another problem which is a light switch when you open the door for the thing. We need to order that and we'll come back." They came back in a week and fixed it at no extra cost. That was great.
When it's a repair, that goes pretty well because American Home Shield will certainly pay for a repair on a system. When it comes to replacement of the equipment, we've been through hoops on dishwashers, refrigerators, and air conditioning systems, and we go through hoops with American Home Shield on that to figure out the value.
The last company sent for the air conditioner on our rental property said, "The condenser's out. You need to replace it. It's old. You need the inside and outside unit." And American Home Shield has agreed to pay for that. Our cost to install that with upgrades is $3,500 out of pocket in addition to what AHS is paying for the air conditioner. You can buy a unit for $3,500 and have it installed, never mind the extras that they're charging. In this case, it was exorbitant and I thought they were scamming me.
I've had a lot of experience with AHS on multiple properties on multiple issues, I requested that they have one of their approved companies see this air conditioner that I had a problem with. The person who I'm calling is in the Philippines and they say, "No, I'm sorry, we can't select that company. You have to take what the computer selects." And I said, "Really? Why not? This company has worked with me and is an approved American Home Shield provider for years." I had to take this other company that is scamming me on this deal. If AHS has providers that owners have experience with and request, they should allow that to take place.

I wasn't happy about the plumbing claim with American Home Shield. I was more confused than understanding what was going on. I called for the first time to have service because my faucet was leaking. Not in a big amount, but it was leaking water. The plumbers came in and did their work. They changed the handle of the faucet. But during the night, the water kept dripping. I called again, and they came back. They said the tube for the head of the shower was accumulating the water, and that was why the water kept dripping. But it wasn't from the plumbing system. After they left, when I opened my water, it was different because the pressure of the water was more than it was usual.
After a few days, I received a message stating that they wanted to charge me a particular amount to fix something about the pressure. It was confusing because the plumber never said anything to me about any pressure. When I tried to explain to the company what happened, I didn't feel that they were hearing what I was saying. The rep kept saying, “Don't worry, he didn't do anything. We can go there and fix it."

The outdoor portion of the AC unit, something had gotten tripped in it. It was like the indoor portion of it was turning on, but the outdoor portion wasn't. The process was really fast. I put in a claim and the tech called me the next day and let me know that he had an opening in the afternoon. He reset it to get it working and it only took him 30 minutes to fix it. I like AHS because it's easy to call in or go on the website and make a claim. I've made a few claims over the years and I'm sure the warranty has saved me a ton of money just having that one deductible for each of the claims that I put on it. I'm really satisfied with the service.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. We are working to improve the overall customer experience. Thanks for your patience during this process.

I decided to get American Home Shield because most of my appliances are 10 years old and they are probably going to start breaking down. And so, I thought it was about a good time to get the coverage. There was another company that first reached out to me but I wasn't happy with them. On the other hand, American Home Shield's representative was very responsive and the rate may have just been a tiny bit more than the other company. But I wanted a company that was going to respond to me when I needed to be communicated to. If anything goes wrong with all of my appliances excluding my microwave plus wall heaters, I call American Home Shield and they will send out somebody who will either fix it or determine if something needs to be replaced. If it needs to be replaced, they will replace it comparable to what I currently own.
The other reason that I had signed up was because there was one wall heater that was acting up. I hope it even makes it through the 30-day window of the warranty. On the 4th of February, it stopped working. I was able to press the button and get it working but it would turn off quickly. I called my home warranty and told them about the issue. I was under the assumption from the communication that I got that day that they were looking to find a provider to come and fix my heater. But I heard nothing for four days. I called and they said, "OhYou called in on the 4th. Your policy didn't start till the 5th. So it wasn't covered." Communication about that would have been nice.
I got the heater to work but it kept turning off. I called American Home Shield again and they said, "That one heater obviously you can't get covered because you've already called in on it... You have to prove that this one's been fixed before we'll even come fix any other heater in your home." It was very unclear to me, and it was very confusing. That was my first experience trying to use my policy and this communication that I thought was great with the person who sold me the policy wasn't great in that experience. That was disappointing.

I had a refrigerator that the freezer stopped working. I submitted my claim through the app and it went smoothly. The contractor called. They came the next day, fixed it on the spot. And that was it. They were professional. They were reserved, but got the job done. However, American Home Shield initially signed a company that was not up to my standards. I asked them to switch it to a different company. The second company had very bad reviews as well, but was a bit better. We have a newborn child and we have breast milk. It needs to be frozen. So, I just needed it to be fixed, even if the experience would be terrible. But they ended up fixing it. I've heard that AHS hires terrible contractors. So for this last one to show up, do it, and do it correctly and have no issues, it was a good experience.

There’s a pipe in my basement toilet that was leaking and my kitchen sink was stopped up. Enterprise Plumbing came out and stopped the leak in the basement but when you flush the toilet, the water wasn't running. So, it took a couple of weeks to figure that out. So, we called American Home Shield and asked for somebody else. Because when I called Enterprise, the plumber was yelling at me. He was very nasty.
The sink was backed up and we have a very long pipe. Astro was supposed to come but they didn't come out because they didn't have a snake long enough. I told them over the phone that it had to be at least a 100-foot snake and the guy said he wasn't sure. But so far, it seemed like it might be backing up again today and I was getting ready to call them. But I’m waiting to see. Overall, the claims process with AHS has been good. You can get it in quick because you can do it online. I've never had any problems with their contractors. Except that one guy who was not very good. But for the most part, they're polite. They come out and fix a job. My husband travels a lot so this makes me comfortable when I call. I know that the person coming has been vetted and he's not some kind of weirdo.

AHS's service is fine somewhat except that I don't understand why some things cost so much. To get my AC fixed, it cost me $1,050 for the Freon because they don't cover that. As for when I needed plumbing done because of my two bathtubs the gentleman put a new regulating thing in the faucet and he said, "Check and see if I can come out and flush the hot water heater. Because that might be what you need.” And I called and AHS said they don't cover that either. I can't afford to pay $100 and pay this money every month for insurance and not get anything in return. I am dishing out more than what AHS is giving me.

I have a leak in my shower and under my sink. The contractor came out and looked at it. But I haven't heard anything since. They weren't that good. It's been over two weeks since they saw the bathroom. The follow-ups need to be more clear because now, I'm just sitting and waiting and not sure what the turnaround time’s gonna be. The contractor didn't tell me when to look out for them to come and do the leak. I had another claim with the roof to get some patching done and it went better because the roofing guy was really responsive. I should be getting that done within the next two weeks. The roofing contractor was amazing and really thorough.

Water was coming in from my upstairs neighbor's apartment and it was leaking all over several areas of the house. A contractor came out the next day and they were great. Once they'd figured out it was my neighbor's apartment, I thought they would just stop and go home. But they went under my apartment to make sure that nothing was leaking in my bathroom. They stayed there for a good 20 to 30 minutes checking stuff out, making sure it was nothing wrong with my unit. I appreciated them doing that.
We have been dealing with American Home Shield for at least four years on different houses. They've always been there. I'm not having to worry about too many issues without paying so much out of pocket, to having complete strangers coming out and having to pay their full quotes. It's a money saver and time saver as well, being able to have someone come out the next day. The reps are nice. But if you need anything beyond the complaint request, it seems like they don't speak English very well. I can't understand what they're saying half the time.

AHS's claims process has been fine and they do their part well. But there was one time, the same problem reoccurred and it was right outside of the 30-day window so I had to pay another $100. That was kind of annoying. Also, my recent claim is an ongoing issue with my oven and it's still not fixed. Different technicians have come out and they've replaced pretty much every part but it's still making a noise. The last time someone came, the tech said there was nothing more they could do and he did a second opinion. Now, another company is coming. It has gotten ridiculous at this point.

I had some problems with the gas water heater. The problem occurred on Friday and a tech came out on Monday. It was good. He started quite fast because it turned out to be a small thing. He was only there for a short while. A home warranty is primarily for these small things that come up where you can get a lower price on service rather than paying the full price. They do bigger things but hopefully not.
The only thing is if you have a house where you have two units and you order air conditioning service, it's not totally clear from the website that you pay per unit. If the expense is $75, it actually turns out to be 150. Normally, you would have to make a new appointment because the guy would only take half an hour off for doing the job. For two units, you have to do two individual appointments. Maybe I missed that but that could be clearer on the website.

The first group that American Home Shield hired for an appliance repair didn't come out. I told them I didn't want them to come out because they were telling me what time to be at home. They weren't asking me when I was going to be home. They weren't very caring about my schedule. They just called me and said, "Hey, we'll be at your house in 30 minutes." I told them, "Dude, I don't even know who you are, for one. Two, is that how y'all set appointments?" But the second guy that American Home Shield sent out was really good. He was a rockstar. He did what he was supposed to do and fixed the issue.
I had problems with the first two people that American Home Shield scheduled to come out to my house for the first two claims that I ever did with them and that didn't make them look too good. Then I had American Home Shield telling me that I had to have people in my house that I didn't want in my house. I wasn't really too happy about that and I almost left them. I told them that I was going to cancel my account with them because the lady that I talked to acted like it was no big deal. I kept on having to repeat myself over and over and over and over again because of the language barrier. Either that or she was just ignoring the fact of what I was saying because she kept on repeating herself. So that really pissed me off.

The air was not kicking on the furnace or the AC. Neither one would come on. The tech was here the next day. It was fast and he was great. He happened to have the part that he needed and he got it fixed the same day. They've come out a couple of times for different problems and they've always been good, but this one was exceptionally good. We've been in this house for at least three years and we're in an older home. So, things are more likely to go wrong. A lot of things don't need to be replaced, they just need to be fixed. With American Home Shield, for not very much money, you could get things working again. I wish it was easier to talk to a person sometimes though. They want to log cases online and that works great when everything goes normally. But if something is unusual, it's hard to get ahold of a person.
It was a long wait period but the last time I called it, it got better. For a while, it was really bad. The other thing is that when it's time to replace an appliance or a unit or whatever, they don't give you a whole lot towards it. They'll give you some money towards that replacement cost but they just want to repair what you have. It's more that they just give you a flat payout, which is probably not enough to replace. The big benefit is when you just need something repaired more than replaced.

I've had a claim for the air conditioner through AHS and I was kind of scared of the guy that came out. My wife and I felt really uncomfortable with him. He was aggressive and odd. I kept getting these bills from the water company and they were telling me that they were high so they wanted me to check for leaks. I called AHS and they sent a plumber but they were useless. They didn't come with equipment and they didn't know what was going on. They didn't even seem interested. Thankfully, AHS sent out a second plumber, Carl & Son, who was absolutely fabulous.
They came out right away with some little equipment and they started trying to figure out where the leak was. They found it and they said they're gonna have to bust up some flooring and all that kind of stuff. They reported to AHS and they gave me the out-of-pocket price, which almost caused me to faint. But the things that were covered, they went ahead and they did it and I'm very happy. What I liked was that the owner of the company came after the service guys were done and he thoroughly inspected everything. He went behind them and made sure everything was done like it was supposed to be done. Then, the water company came by, looked at it, and told me that the leak is gone.
I was thinking about canceling AHS but based on this experience, I'm going to keep them. I was very appreciative that with the first plumber that they called out, I didn't have to call to tell them that I wasn't happy with the plumber. They must have known something was going on because they sent me a text and said they were going to send out another plumber.

Every time I deal with this company, it is an entire procedure. My dishwasher was deemed to need to be replaced. I spoke with an American Home Shield rep, who gave me a cash-out number based on the old dishwasher I had. Ok, so far, everything is good. As per their instructions, I find a dishwasher I like, order it, pay for it myself out of pocket, get it professionally installed, and email them the invoice to the email they gave me. Moments later, I get a confirmation email that my invoice was received and I should expect my check within 21 business days. Ok, no problem.
This was Feb. 7, 2022. 21 business days pass and no surprise, surprise, no check. I call the company, am assured that they will look into what the delay is and if I could just be patient for another couple of days. Ok, no problem. A few more days later, still no check. I call again and ask to speak to a supervisor. Their supervisors always seem to be out to lunch. Anyway, I get told that they will escalate the issue and a supervisor will call me 24-48 hours later as per their protocol. So a week later (no call from a supervisor and no check), and I call back. That brings us to this Monday. The rep keeps telling me that they will escalate the issue, but finally does connect me to a supervisor, who tells me that she will also look into what the issue is and get back to me as soon as possible.
She gave me the number to her direct line. Ok, we hang up. She calls back a couple of minutes later saying that they've already issued the checks last year and in January. I bought the house in October so last year was for previous owners. In January, the check was for my oven (which was also a long project to get reimbursed). I explained to her that this was for a dishwasher and invoice was only sent Feb 7 so how could they have reimbursed me for it in January? Anyway, don't hear back from her yesterday. Called her back on her direct line today, left a message and no call back. Their business is fraud!!!

We have had American Home Shield for several years, but will not be renewing our contract. The few times we have had to ask for a repair, we are left in the dark for 6-8 weeks without fail. AHS contracts with the worst, lowest-rated service companies in the region. Twice we were left with air conditioning in Florida over June and July for 6-8 weeks. Twice! The service tech then told us they could have gotten the part in less than a week, but they must get the part from AHS who send to use the lowest-rated suppliers as well. The part through them took over a month to arrive both times.
My most recent debacle began 01/31/22. We asked for a tech to repair our dishwasher. He came out a week later, ordered a part, and said it would arrive in a few days and he would be in touch. That was the last I heard from him. I have left several, very polite, messages asking for a status update that have not been returned. I spoke to him twice in person and he denied the part had arrived and promised to look into it when he got back to the office. Apparently HE is the entire company. There is no office to call, no service department, and no receptionist.
After that, all my calls went straight to voice mail. I called AHS 7 times and received the same responses word for word every time. As usual, they say sorry and promise to call or email an update which is a lie because the communication never happens. Today after demanding to speak with someone, ANYONE, who could help me resolve the problem and fix my dishwasher, I was escalated to a supervisor who called the tech and lo and behold, he answered their call.
They then come back in the line, tell me the tech has had the part since FEB 17th!!! And he'll be at my house Wednesday between 1-5. Not once did the cs rep ask me first if I had to work that day, or if it was a good time or day for me. AHS is very fast to take your money, and very, very slow to do anything after that. They consistently use the lowest-rated service providers and will absolutely not keep you informed on any part of the process. You will receive absolutely nothing more than an insincere apology from who couldn't care less. Ask the reps are hard to understand and one rep even had a rooster crowing outside their window. -1/10 would not recommend.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I had a policy with American Home Shield on our first house and we lost that first house in a flood in 2016 and forgot about them. I got a warranty with another company that was absolutely horrid and ended up going back to AHS this year. We did use them once at the other house. I had a hot water heater that went bad and they replaced it and it was $100 just like they claimed. It was wonderful. I'm very satisfied with AHS. It was an overall pleasant experience.

I had an issue with my freezer where the ice maker seemed to have gone a bit crazy, and the freezer was frozen shut. I requested service through American Home Shield's website, which was pretty user-friendly, then I got a text. I also got an email notifying me of the name of the company that was coming out and their contact information. The repair man called me, and we talked through the problem. It was great. He told me when he would be able to arrive and that I would be getting texts prior to his arrival, which was a new feature. It was great because now I could see how close he was, like Amazon, and make sure the dog was out in the backyard. I liked that feature. The repair man gave me a tutorial on what to watch out for with the ice maker, so everything's fine.
I have a lot of original big ticket items, and I keep thinking that those are gonna croak someday because of their age. That is why I continue to use pay for the home warranty. I would tell friends if they are in the same situation I am that I would definitely think about getting the warranty for those original big ticket items in particular. I have seen my neighbors replace air conditioners, and I feel like I'm just biding my time.

The only thing was it was a Monday when I contacted them and I did not get an appointment till Friday but that's normal in today's world. I got a call from the city water department that I had a leak so I called American Home Shield. When I put the claim in, it was just for the bathroom because I didn't know what it was. They had asked me for something specific so I said it could be coming from the bathroom sink or toilet. AHS contacted Leaks and had the person come out. But it wasn't a good experience. The tech was so surprised with some of the things that the warranty didn't cover.
I had to go in and re-get the claim so that Leaks could come out and look for it in the yard. It was time consuming and frustrating. If I had known that earlier, I could have done that. When it comes to leaks with AHS, if I thought it was the toilet, that's how they're going to check instead of checking everything. And if I had them to come back out, they told me it would be an additional $100 that I have to pay. So, that was frustrating. I wasn't impressed with it because I was trying to find a leak and I didn't have any patience with it. Other than that, the contractor was excellent. They came out and worked on it.

Up until right now, American Home Shield has been pretty good. On the 19th, I called in and requested service for our refrigerator, and I didn't hear back. I called on Saturday and spoke to someone, and they couldn't reach the company which was called Next. AHS emailed them and suggested that I could call them, which I've done. I haven't done it yet today, but I still have not heard anything back. American Home Shield sent an email saying the contract was given to this company, and if I wanted to contact them myself, then that would be okay. I wasn't happy about that
I asked if they could do anything else with somebody else. The rep said they could cancel my request and do a new one. I said, "Well, that would put me further behind." The issue is the freezer portion of our refrigerator. The refrigerator is having problems too, but all the food in the freezer and the top few shelves have defrosted, so we're losing food that we would otherwise be eating. If I would get some service from the refrigerator repair person, I would be really happy.
American Home Shield usually works. I usually hear back the day that I called, which this time I didn't. Possibly, that's because I gave them my email address. I didn't really want to, because I don't check the email constantly like some people do. I'm not sitting at the computer, because I don't like it. It would be good if they would follow up with a phone call as well as put it on email, because not everybody does email or watches it on a regular basis. In the past, they would do that. That helped a lot, because if I wanted to call the person, they'd usually give me the telephone number too, which this time, I don't believe they did.

I was without a fridge for almost two months. GE came one time and it was supposed to be fixed but they didn't fix it. They ordered some parts and when they showed up, they changed the compressor and the coil. They were there for about four hours and put some kind of air to test it and all the lines in the inside were broken or damaged. So they said it was not fixable. But why didn't they check that before? I was waiting for two months without a fridge, and then they told me it was not fixable.
GE said they were gonna talk to American Home Shield and let them know that it was not fixable. They did that and American Home Shield said they were gonna send money. I have to send the receipt and they will send a check. I already sent the receipt for the fridge that I bought. I told them that my fridge was more expensive. They gave me 1,924 but I paid more for my fridge. But they said that was the only money they could give me.
I was not happy with American Home Shield. When I talked to customer service, they didn't do anything. Every time I called, there was a different person that I talked to. I don't think they do notes every time that we call. So I'm really mad with them. I'm fixing to call American Home Shield and cancel my service because I haven't gotten my check yet.

I don't like how long it takes for anything to get repaired. When something breaks down, it's always 24 to 48 hours before someone calls me, and they have to schedule the appointment based on their availability. So if my furnace goes out in the dead of winter and it's below zero and I can't get somebody to come out for three or four days, that's ridiculous. And that happens.
What happened was the contractor has to talk to the warranty company before I can make any moves. They came out four times because my sump pump went out. The first time, it was just to repair something but not the pump itself. So the next morning, my basement flooded. They came out again and did something similar. Whatever it was, they didn't replace the sump pump. So the third day, my basement flooded again. I have damaged furniture. Before they came out the third time, it knocked my water heater out. So the guy who came out for my water heater, actually worked for the same company. He looked at the sump pump and said, "The sump pump is not right. It's not working right." I said, "Well, you guys put it in." His response was, "No, we couldn't put it in because it's not working right."
I called the company. Come to find out, they did put it in. So he came back out that day to replace the pump. But by that time, I had extra repairs and extra money had to come out, because now the water heater is gone because the flood knocked out the water heater, and I got damaged doors that I have to replace. So, it wasn't the greatest experience. They know what they were doing, but they have to go through the home warranty before they could actually replace an item.
It should depend on the item whether or not the sense of urgency comes in. Because if something like that goes out and you're basically flooding, it's gonna damage something in the house. So instead of putting a Band-Aid on it, replace the sump pump or the furnace. Whatever big appliance need replacing or goes down should be replaced immediately. I can see it when my microwave goes out, then I'm not worried about the contractor coming out three or four days later, or even my fridge at that point. But when something like the furnace or the sump pump goes out, it can further damage the house. AHS will take care of it. It might not be in a timely fashion. And you just hope it doesn't damage anything else in the house. But their sense of urgency is not there when something breaks down.

Paid for this service for 3 months before I filed my first claim on 3/4/2022. On 3/6 I had not heard from the contractor who was assigned to me, so I called them. They said they were no longer willing to work with AHS, nor were they willing to get on the portal and reject the claim. They gave no additional details as to why. That same day I called AHS back, they cancelled that claim and reissued a new one. I was refunded the $100 deductible, and recharged the same deductible. By the second day after being assigned a contractor, I reached out to contractor, who was extremely unprofessional in the way he handled my business (over text, unwilling to call me), but explained that he was going through a slew of hardships, including being sick with Covid, so I simply called and had them repeat the process to reassign this to a third contractor.
By this time it was the 18th. I was informed there were no contractors in my area, and that it would take 48 hours to find one. by the 22nd I had heard nothing, and this time I called to cancel my membership, and get my money refunded. The best they could do was refund the $100 deductible, and the one monthly fee that had come out since my first claim was filed. They charged me almost $40 to cancel early, regardless of the fact that the fault was their own, and when I asked if I could speak to someone higher up I was told there is no one higher up.
Buyer Beware - I was unhappy with 2-10 warranty, but never in the two years that I had their services was I treated this poorly as a customer. AHS made 2-10 look flawless. Do not waste your time or money. Do not go with AHS.
We do appreciate your feedback and apologize that this issue has caused you to cancel your warranty. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience, and hopes that you would consider joining the AHS team in the near future. Have a great day!

I called Bestway because they had given me their contact information. They had a representative come out again two days later after the first time. He told me some additional parts were needed. For the longest time, we couldn't get electricians anywhere in the state of Louisiana because of the hurricanes. But finally, someone from Skylite came out and we were able to get a bunch of things taken care of that was building up. We had a whole side of the walls of the house not working. So all the electrical plugs weren't working. We had two ceiling fans not working. We weren't sure about a switch in the walls, but the tech confirmed it was working. He checked the ceiling fan in the back and was able to resolve that issue.
The tech was very knowledgeable. He explained to me what he was doing, who, what, why, and where kind of thing. He was super, super nice and very easy to work with. He was very professional and I was very impressed. Even if it's something that's not covered by American Home Shield, I will hire this guy if he'll come to my house.
Skylite was amazing. They are one of the best I've had in a long time. They were refreshing. But the customer service at American Home Shield has gone way down. American Home Shield was the bomb seven years ago and the people they sent out was the bomb. I've learned over the years that a lot of these companies that sign up with American Home Shield are contractors or companies that are starting out trying to build the clientele in the business. Once they get the clientele and the business is built up, they drop American Home Shield. When American Home Shield tries to call them back again, they won't even touch them with 100 ft pole because they don't like dealing with them.
I have another claim in for the Prospect House for electrical work and that ticket's been open for over a year by May. American Home Shield cannot find an electrician to go and do the work because they don't want to deal with them at all. Even though American Home Shield will give me the authority to find my own electrician, they still demand that the electrician should call them. But the companies don't want to do that. They flat out refuse and will not return my call, and will not come back and do the work.
Before, I had somebody calling me setting up my service. But now, I have to constantly monitor it and check. It's a long process. The service used to be paid when the contractor got here or after the service was rendered. But now, you have to pay upfront. I've paid with a check and it took a week for the check to clear the first time I tried to do it. This last time, I used the credit card and it was a little bit faster. It was a day or two, and then the claim was assigned. But I have to constantly call American Home Shield. When I call American Home Shield, there's nothing for you to be on hold for 30 minutes to up to 2 hours waiting to talk to a representative. Sometimes people will hang up on you because they don't want to deal with you. But the warranty is good. When all the things click in place, it's great.
My washer went out in the middle of the pandemic. American Home Shield usually sends the same guy all the time when it's appliances. But a different guy came out this time, and he told him that the washer was unfixable. American Home Shield didn't like that comment, so they sent someone else. We spent the next year back and forth between American Home Shield, the second guy, and me, and fighting.
It was a $900 washer. American Home Shield wound up only giving me about 400 dollars because they deducted all the service calls that the second guy kept making and couldn't fix it to the value of my washer. He wound up ordering four tubs, and every tub that came in was busted. To top it off, they were also demanding that I put extended warranty on the washer. They wouldn't service it for a year if something happened because it has to have one-year extended warranty. That is stupid. It comes with a one-year warranty anyway. It was a long drawn out to the point that I thought about getting an attorney. This was the worst experience I've ever had with American Home Shield, to the point that I stopped recommending people to them.

I wanted to find the best company for me to go with and ended up with American Home Shield. When I was looking for a home warranty, I was looking at the house plus all of the appliances such as the fridge, washer, dryer, garage opener, and everything. I reached out online and got my contact information uploaded there. A rep called me and we talked about everything over the phone. The rep did a decent job and he mentioned that they also have an additional policy that covers all of the electronic devices, such as TVs, computers, and everything that's plugged into a wall that's not a cell phone. That is serviced through Allstate. I got the home warranty and the additional warranty that covers the electronic devices.
My only disappointment was when I got to look at the additional coverage for all of the electronic devices, I noticed that there is a service fee. That's exactly what I talked to the rep about. My understanding was that there wouldn't be any service fee for electronic devices because some electronic devices could be roughly $200 themselves. Why would I pay 100 bucks, which is half the cost? That was a bit disappointing. If that disclosure was done at the beginning about the electronic devices, that would have been better because that would have made me think about whether I wanted to get the coverage or not.

There was uneven heating in the house so I called American Home Shield to have the heater cleaned. It could take weeks to see a contractor especially nowadays so I was pleasantly surprised how quickly we got a contractor here. It was the very next day. I would rather get text messages though rather than an email because I get so many emails I don't always see, so I didn't know that the technician was coming out to service the next day. I was sent notification that it was by email, and I haven't gone on to my thing yet to see if I just need to change how I get my alerts. But I always have my phone with me so text messages would be better.
The contractor did an inspection on the heater and they said that aside from the mechanical problems, I was getting a little bit of gases coming out through the heating vents, and that it needed to be changed out, which I was very grateful for. It was low enough not to be detected but still enough to have that in the house and that was a little unsettling to know. Because there was one incident with AHS that they didn't cover even though they said they were going to cover. It went back and forth for eight phone calls and it was annoying.

We're in the process right now with our refrigerator. It's been over a week. Every tech has been saying the same thing, “We can't fix it.” We're at the point where everybody's saying it and they just keep transferring us to another technician. So, we're displeased. The ones that just came to the house were from Sears. They're the premier ones out in the area and they're the ones that specialize in this and, "If we can't do it, there's really no one else that can." They were like, "You're just gonna have to deal with your warranty people." But AHS helped out a lot with all the previous issues. I also enjoy their service. In the past, they were quick to resolve issues and helpful in every way.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your unresolved concerns.

My heating system stopped working for one of my units downstairs. Techs came and they just refilled the gas a little bit. They said, “Your unit needs to be replaced. But we are just going with the cheapest option.” I was okay with that. I then received a letter from American Home Shield a few days ago saying they were not liable for the heating system because there are already holes in the ducts. Due to those holes, the heating system had gone bad. I don't know how they are getting this information. The holes are on my upstairs unit and not on my downstairs unit that had the heating issue. My downstairs unit has a brand-new ductwork. American Home Shield is combining two things and trying to justify this. I’m not very happy with the company.

American Home Shield’s service is absolutely horrible. My dishwasher went out at the end of January. We got somebody out here the first day of February and that was the first of five visits. They put in three parts, but it still wasn't fixed. The fifth time, the man who came knew what he was doing and put in a control board. Now it's working but I was without my dishwasher for two months. Keeping my grandkids, I needed that. It was a pain.
There could be better communication between American Home Shield and the service people. They need to know what's going on with the technicians. For the third one that came out, he didn't even put a part in. He just took something out, cleaned it and started to leave. He started the dishwasher up and said it was working. I told him it always worked in the beginning, but when it wanted to change cycles, it wouldn't do it. I asked if he could stay a minute but he said he had another appointment to get to and couldn't wait. He hadn't even gotten out of the driveway when it stopped. I had his number in my phone. I called him and told him it stopped but he said he couldn't come back and he was late for his other appointment.
I haven’t had much luck with American Home Shield. I'm debating on whether to keep it. It doesn't seem to be worth it. About two years ago, our heat pump needed some freon and somebody came out and did that. American Home Shield paid just a fraction. It was very expensive for us. Also, they could narrow their visits down to half a day. My husband takes radiation treatments every morning and they weren't able to work around that. They said they had to say they'd be there between 8:00 and 5:00. That was all they could do. Finally, they came on a Saturday so that was good. Another thing is we live in a small town and most of their service people come from the larger towns. When they come, they're coming a distance and that's another drawback.

American Home Shield is reputable and they send someone out as soon as they can. My washing machine wasn't turning on. I called the claim in and they gave me a date and a time Sears was going to service my appliance. The tech was very cordial and professional when he came out. He ordered parts and it took a little over a week for those to come in. He came back out and serviced it and the washing machine is operating well so far.

I'm loving AHS. They’ve been on point with me. I don't have any problems except for one. I had a water heater put in. I got a letter Friday saying that I have a bill that is due. I don't understand because I paid $480 at the beginning. But when Frontline Mechanical came out, that was excellent. They looked at the water heater and said my old water heater had busted in the bottom. It took him two days after that. He came out, spent eight hours here. That was great. When my air conditioner went out on me completely, it took them two days to come out and three days to fix it. That was fast and I really appreciated that.

The first time I had American Home Shield, I really wasn't happy. That was why I got off of it for a couple of years. I lived in California, and I had a claim that required work to put a water heater in. In California, the law is, in every location, you've got to get a permit to replace the water heater even if it's not broken. AHS didn't cover the permit fee. That was why I stopped and I said, "If you're going to operate in California, you need to be able to be compliant with all the rules." Nobody cared. So, I got off of it for about four years. I went back to them because we had another one that we weren't happy with. It was easier.

Submitting a claim is fairly easy. There's a drop-down of choices for each type of appliance and all I got to do is click a button. I find the one that's closest and I have the option of putting a little blurb in there if it's like another type of problem. It has worked out very well for us. Home Shield is very fast and very professional with getting all of our things done. Also, the deductible itself has more than paid for whatever the issue was. I got good value out of Home Shield.

My first impression of American Home Shield was awesome. I called and they said I got to pay $100 for the claim and they would take care of it. Scheduling an appointment was fine. Universal 1 Repair came in and they said they fixed the microwave. The microwave was working fine and as for the washing machine, they said that it was wobbling so they had to order some parts. A week after, they came back and the parts were in. They fixed it and it was done.
Three days later, the microwave stopped working and the washing machine completely shut down out of the blue. I called back and they said it was a recall. They said they would send somebody here. My wife was very happy. The same guy came in and he looked at the microwave. He said one knob wasn't enough and he was going to replace both because the electricity is not flying through. He fixed it in 10 minutes and it was great. We have not had any issues since then with the microwave.
He looked at the washing machine and he said he could not get any power and he needed to order an entire electrical board. He said he was going to go to the warehouse and place the order right then, pending it two days or a week. We weren't able to do laundry for over a week. Then, I got an email from American Home Shield that said the part for the microwave had been ordered. I thought somebody made a mistake and they meant the washing machine. I called Universal and I got the runaround. I called a number of times and couldn't get through. I left a couple of messages and no one returned.
Finally, a gentleman called. I was getting impatient. It had been over a week then and we hadn't done laundry in three weeks. I said I needed to know when they were going to get the parts and who was going to come and fix it. He said they couldn't order the parts because this wasn't a recall and it had to be a new work order. He said the technician shouldn't have looked at the machine. I asked what I had to do to fix it and he told me to call American Home Shield, create a new order, and then they would order the parts and let me know when the parts come in. I was so frustrated.
I call American Home Shield and the lady I talked to was super nice. They said they would not send Universal anymore. They would create a new ticket, I would pay $100, and they would send a new vendor. But if they send a new vendor, I wouldn't know when they're going to schedule because it takes 48 hours for them to call and God knows when they have availability. It would push me another couple of weeks. I asked if they could find anybody in the local area to send somebody over here. She said Universal didn't want to deal with that because they think that the problem is something else. She said she would find a local vendor and they assigned someone from New Jersey, Express.
I called and there was an hour wait. It was during the weekday. I gave up and I called back again but no one answered the phone. Friday went by and then the weekend but no one picked up. I got so frustrated. I called American Home Shield and said I need to talk to a supervisor but no one called. I spoke to a gentleman and he said he would send Express an urgent email. They scheduled Express and scheduled an appointment for the 25th. It's been almost three and a half weeks that I am without a machine. I want to get this machine fixed and I want to cancel my plan because there's too much hassle. This is not what I signed up for.

I opened the claim in July last year. Someone came and looked at my appliances. I had a problem with my ice maker and my washing machine. The washing machine needed a new transmission. They weren't probably going to fix it but they never got back in touch with me about fixing it. I was expecting to hear back from them but since I never did, I eventually called them four or five times to get them to follow up and do something. They'd told me that they'd emailed me back, but they never would. I got no satisfaction. What I ended up doing was waiting until my dishwasher broke then I put in another claim for all three appliances and they took care of them.
American Home Shield was being fake. They were telling me that they would get back in touch with me or they were gonna talk to the first company who came out. I had to call that company and ask them what was going on, and they said they kept asking them for documentation about the problems, and I kept sending them documentation. Every time I would call American Home Shield, they would call the repair company and ask them to send the documentation again. They weren't happy about that.

The issues that I called about were consistent with me not being knowledgeable about the appliance. Secondary, to make a point the items just needed some replacement parts that I wasn't aware of. And it was all good. But the visit was fine. Very respectful. And the technicians were very intelligent. But they need to at least, if they know what the problem is, and have the spare parts available with them when they come over. The first time, the tech was lucky he had the part. Second time, he didn't have it. So, it might help a lot better if the technician, after knowing what the problem was, possibly has the supply parts on hand in the van or the truck that they come over because it would speed up the process and make it a lot less stressful.
It would be a lot better to communicate effectively with the tech to know exactly what's going on. For example, whenever I contacted American Home Shield, I had to communicate to AHS what the problem was. They are not the ones that come out. They just submit it to the technicians. The customer can call AHS all day long, but we can't communicate effectively with the technician. I understand that the technician has a lot of different calls. But somewhere somehow, if the call is relayed to the technician incorrectly, then that is what they are going to go by. Based on my experience, it's a lot better to talk to the technician so that they know, “Oh, okay. Yeah, this is what it is. Okay. Yeah. Well, the office said it was this." Versus, "I get it.”
You're going to send somebody over my place, and from what I described it on the AHS, to begin the process, they want to know what's going on. It's not ideally set up where the customer can say what's going on. Because that particular intake person is not technically inclined to understand what's going on. And I get it where technicians don't have time to do all that. But the technician should evaluate what the customer's concerns are by virtue of touching base with the customer prior to the actual appointment date and saying, “Hey, I'm your technician that is identified, and this is what the issue is. It is all correct or what?” That helps out.

But the icemaker worked the day he was here, then when I came home and tried to get some ice, it's not working again. My husband said he was going to call him and see. But he seems like he's trying to do everything. He's been here at least five times, but the problem is not completely fixed. Other than that, American Home Shield's service was excellent. The fan was working and the inside portion of my system was working, but the outside heat pump was not working. I called AHS. The rep was very helpful once I took a few minutes to get connected. She immediately entered it into the system because I got a call from the contractor five minutes after I got off the phone. This was Saturday night, so not a time you'd expect an immediate callback.
The tech was very professional, competent, quick, and he physically showed me the problem. Had to do with a loose circuit breaker. I had checked the ones on the main panel. But when I went outside and opened it, it was dark, and I couldn't really see anything and I wasn't going to go put my hands in the box in the dark. He showed me exactly what it was so, if this happened again, I could at least check that and cross it off the list before I called, which I appreciated. I would not hesitate to recommend the contractor AHS sent and I've recommended AHS to several of my friends, too. I also had AHS before in my previous home. I couldn't add it to the same ticket at that time so I've had to pay two deductibles but I was able to put the dishwasher and the dryer on the same ticket and tell them to come back out and look at my washing machine again.
They also had to order a part for my dishwasher. I know that it's gonna take a while for it to come in, but I'm washing my dishes by hand, it's kind of a pain. I'm a single mom of three kids and I run a business, so not having my dishwasher kind of sucks. But other than that, Ramey Appliance is very courteous, and they're trying to fix it within the scope of their abilities. American Home Shield has been very helpful. It's worked pretty great for me. It's a lot cheaper to pay $100 than it is to buy a new item. But if it takes more than two weeks to get a part, American Home Shield should just replace the bloody item.

I used to have four contracts with American Home Shield. Now, I just have one. That was how disappointed I was a year ago. But the company itself had improved. This year, has been great so far compared to maybe last year or the year before when the pandemic started. The representatives are very good and the wait time on the phone has improved. Before, I used to be on the phone for three hours, on and off, the entire day just to get something done. That has changed.
One thing I don't like is there is too much paperwork that needs to be shuffled around before American Home Shield approves a certain work. When I'm dealing with an emergency, such as water leak that's flooding my house, there's no time to wait for paperwork. I have a pending service with them because the plumber that they sent to me did not want to open the walls to get to the pipe that's leaking. They did not want to do that because perhaps American Home Shield will not pay them for that kind of work. I asked American Home Shield if they can just reimburse me for hiring my contractor to fix the job and they told me they need to wait. There are procedures, which is the plumber that was sent out needed to send a report. That then goes through whatever departments with thewarranty company then I may get a response of an approval.
They cannot guarantee an approval, to where another warranty company would take my word for it and make a phone call to the vendor. As soon as they confirm that the vendors said they won't do certain things, they will let me just hire anyone to stop the water from leaking. What I did was on the same day that American Home Shield sent their vendor and the vendor said they were not gonna open my wall, I called my contractor and he took care of the job in less than an hour. The water had damaged my sheetrock and my interior walls were moist. We turned off our water supply for two days so we were out of water. We were going to my mother-in-law's house to shower for two days in a row.
I'm still waiting for American Home Shield to tell me what the next step is. The list of coverage that they have seems so condensed and well-rounded, but I did not understand why they don't want to cut the walls. That was a week ago. Today, I'll call American Home Shield for a follow-up and hope to get an email address or fax number to where I can send my invoice. I hope they would reimburse me or maybe pay my contractor directly.
American Home Shield needs better vendors. Not all vendors are terrible. But they need to pay the vendors more so they can do more things out of the regular scope of work. The only reason I'm holding on to this home warranty right now is because I am inside my contract. But once a renewal date comes close, I'll be reviewing another home warranty company. American Home Shield has a lot of promises or their contract may be deceiving. They put a lot of things in there. It looked like a whole page of list of things that they cover. But for some reason, I'm better off going on my own. This other home warrant I know has a faster way of doing things.
I'm getting my money's worth if it's a small type of work. I've had electrical work through American Home Shield and it's great. Someone came out to repair my garage and that too was great. If it's something small, petty, and I can live with it, then I brush it off. I figured my copay or my trade fee of $100 is what probably I'd pay somebody to come out if I find a handyman to come out and do stuff.
But if it comes to the real major problems, it makes me question my contract andit it makes me want to look elsewhere. If the job is not a band-aid kind of fix and it's a real job where it has something to do with finding the leak and getting in the walls, techs don't want to do it or maybe they're not paid to do it. But it should be no doubt because it's part of the contract. With bigger repairs, there's a high chance I'll be left on my own. After paying trade fees, I'm still left with a problem. Hopefully, that'll get better because I've been with American Home Shield for at least three or four years.
On the whole, I'm 50-50 satisfied. I wish they could improve things to where I have more confidence when I call them and know that I'll be taken care of. So far, every time I call, I cross my fingers and toes hoping that I won't be left hanging. Lately, it's been 50% successful where they fix everything back to normal and there are times where I'm left hanging.

When my heat went out of my house during one of the coldest weeks there was an Alabama, the contractor who came was awesome. They came out the next day and were early. They told me I had time to get up and take a shower, and before I could even get my clothing out to get my shower, they were already at my door. They got me taken care of temporarily until they could come out with the parts. Out of 5 stars, I give them 7. I have a Platinum package and if I had chosen a different package with a different company, it was gonna cost more. With the Platinum package with American Home Shield, when the contractor came out to do my servicing on my heating unit, I only had to pay my $100 deductible then I was gonna have to pay for the freon. The freon was guaranteed in my package and I only had to pay $110 so I only ended up paying $210 to get my unit fixed.

American Home Shield is awesome and I like it. When you have a problem, you can get right through. You can report your problems and they’ll assign you to a tradesman. I've dealt with home warranty companies before and when you pay your $100 deductible, you don't have to pay another $100 fee to the technician. So, that part is the only thing that's different. I already knew what my plumbing problem was but I was disappointed that I had to pay the contractor to diagnose it. So, I had to pay another $100 and I didn't think that was fair, but it is what it is.

I call American Home Shield when I have a claim and I would get a message that they've found a contractor in my area. They give me the contractor's information and I call them. Sometimes the contractor will contact me before I even get a chance to call them. I used American Home Shield for many things such as the air conditioning that went down, a leaky shower, or a washing machine that broke. I also made a claim when we couldn't turn of the shower and it as was constantly leaking and dripping. That went on for quite some time and that drove me crazy. The first technician that came was an idiot and he basically said there was nothing he could do about the issue. I called American Home Shield back and they got T.J. Plumbing and they were great. The benefit of having American Home Shield is totally financial. It's a great value and I'm very pleased.

I do my claim online and there are some limitations in the request form in that there are not enough options to really narrow down your issue sometimes. You end up having to select the closest thing, which then gets forwarded. They think you have this one particular issue when in reality, it's a different one. It's just you couldn’t select anything else.
It would also be nice to be able to upload a video of your issue. having a video chat would be helpful too because we could just save time and show them so that before they come, they already know what they're likely gonna need. Other than that, the folks we had were great. I could forego even a delay. They are quality people that know their stuff and can solve issues on the first visit as opposed to, “We got to do this. Now, we got to go buy this.” We had a sump pump that wasn't turning on and off at the right times. Techs were able to jerry-rig it to work. I had another issue where I had a leak and the techs were able to figure out where the leak was coming from and just quickly replaced some gasket or filler in the spout that stopped the leak. The issue is resolved. The techs were very friendly and clearly knowledgeable about what they were doing.

American Home Shield is good, but it's more expensive than it's worth a lot of times. I only use it once or twice a year, so I don't always know if it's worth what I pay, but they're fine when they come out. They're having someone come out today to service my AC. Last time, I had them come look at a faucet, but it didn’t meet the requirements that the warranty wanted, so the guy couldn’t do anything. I had to pay someone else to do it. AHS has pretty strict requirements of what contractors can do with their work. Maybe they can be a little more lenient with their requirements.

I had multiple people from American Home Shield call me back. When I called to register, the first guy told me, “We will go out and take a look at your air conditioner just to make sure everything is in good shape." But when I called the company, they said, “No, we don't do that anymore.” I told them, “So you just wait for it to break and then you come out and fix it.” They said, “Yup.” Which I found a little confusing because I've been getting emails from American Home Shield that says, “Hey, sign up for your free checkup.” I would think American Home Shield would rather look at something if it needs attention versus letting it just break.
The second guy signed me up for the personal computers, which I started getting charged for them. But I didn't say I wanted to sign up for that. So American Home Shield had to transfer me five different times until they found the right company. American Home Shield is more of a middleman in the process. They don't really administrate anything. They just send it out to other companies. That was one thing I was not aware of. American Home Shield has nothing to do with Home Shield stuff. The guy told me on one of the calls that American Home Shield just subcontracts the work out to other people. Overall, American Home Shield's concept is still good but the process seems a little tricky. I understand that sometimes the reps have to transfer to somebody who has a higher subject matter expertise, but I was transferred so many times.

I wish someone would have given me a review prior to investing in American Home Shield. Maybe other states are ok but in NJ this is my experience. Ice machine broke, requested service Thurs 10am. Did not hear from the appliance company called no answer, went online they are out of business. I called AHS. They said could cancel the work order or cancel my AHS since I am dissatisfied and/or request and see if I get someone else. You guessed it...that company had terrible reviews and no one contacted me. They don't answer the phone, I've been on w AHS as I'm trying to expedite.... There are rules to expedite, the fact that the other company is out of business doesn't warrant expediting??? SO how much of my money does AHS have....$600. I could probably have called a service contractor who would already have this done and paid a portion of what AHS has taken from me. I also paid $100 serve cal fee....
I am expected not to wait because it's Friday afternoon and they will have the second company call me on Monday. There are no service hours on the weekend. If there is medication in my refrigerator they would call the appliance company and have it expedited!!! Should I have to lie to get it expedited, because they gave me an appliance company that is out of business??.. I despise speaking to people from other countries who sound robotic and do not have the same inferences as we do. Lacking in integrity!!!! Ask for a supervisor, they are experiencing high call volumes so that is not possible??!! Wasted way too much time. Canceling AHS.

I thought I got a warranty that I could actually use. It was used as a selling point when I bought the house. American Home Shield made an honest effort. But I live in a rural area, and they are not here, so they don't know who to call. So, they call people that aren't that professional. I have All Pro right now, and it cost me a lot of money, $2,800. The other day, they did my attic. And today, they've got a guy underneath my house doing my crawlspace. Everything about them was professional. And a receipt was emailed to me.
On a recent claim however, even though it might not have been covered, I wish that the rep gave me a quote on how to at least make me comfortable with what I wanted. He was a very nice man. He told me that it would take pretty much redoing my whole kitchen. The concern that I had was if I use a plug in my bathroom, it trips the GFI. My refrigerator is hooked to the GFI. So if nobody is home to fix the GFI, then my refrigerator stays off. I was frustrated. I just gave up. I paid a $100 fee for a contractor to come out. It would have been nice if AHS would actually give me an honest quote and honest job to do what I wanted to accomplish.
When I do my laundry, my sink gurgles. And in the beginning, a bit of water would backflow into my sink. So the contractor said that I needed a vent valve underneath my sink. But that wasn't covered because it was a new part to make it work correctly. And they gave me an estimate of $307. So I said, “Okay, just fix it so it doesn't gurgle.” They came out, fixed it. But when I was doing laundry the next day, I heard the gurgle. I called the plumber himself. He said they would come back out. And he said that he knew it’s a vent issue, but he couldn't figure out which vent to put so we didn't have to play a guessing game. He said that he would call me back. Once they discovered, they didn't fix it. Never sent a bill. They never came back. The plumber was the most real. He said, “American Home Shield doesn't care if you complain. If you want everything covered, then get the best plan they got.” But it's not in the budget.

I love American Home Shield’s service. The customer service has been great. I had an issue with my garage door recently, and it was the same exact issue that I had last year. They sent a different contractor out from the previous one, and this person clearly was looking at me as being a woman and thinking I don't know anything about my house, and so they called American Home Shield and lied about what was wrong so they could charge more. I called American Home Shield, and I explained it to them. I said, “Look, you can look in the records. This is exact same issue I had. Send the other company that came out before.” I was pleased with them listening to me versus listening to the contractor that was clearly trying to overcharge and say it was an issue that wasn’t.
The other company, Garage Doors, that ended up coming out was excellent. They were here before and they told me that that company had a bad reputation for doing that, and they were getting all of their customers. The bad company was 495 Garage Doors, Inc. They were very unprofessional. The guy was very short and rude with me when I was trying to explain to him what the issue was. It was disgusting.
As far as submitting a claim, it’s easy-peasy to do it online. Everything was very, surprisingly, great. Because I had another warranty company before, and I ended up leaving them. I was with them for six years. I don't know where they were signing these contractors from. It was a pain in the behind. I switched over to AHS, and I've been telling everybody, “You need to switch out to American Home Shield!”

I have an older home, so we have the basic coverage for the furnace, the heating system and the water heater. So, if something busts, instead of a big $10,000 job, I have the insurance with it. Our gas range for our stove did not ignite and I called American Home Shield. I said that I needed them to get this looked at, assuming it was an electrical or a gas issue, not necessarily an appliance issue. The guy from Sure Electric came out and said that it was an appliance issue. I called AHS back and asked them to send the next guy out. They said I wasn’t covered for an appliance issue for my range and stove. So, I was a little disappointed in that and it left a sour taste in my mouth. It seems like these are technicality stuff. This is an electrical or a gas issue and AHS pivoted and said that it was an appliance issue to cover themselves. But it is what it is. We're making the stove work safely so we're lighting it manually with a lighter.
I had a locksmith out here come but I paid for it myself instead of going through the network. I also had a plumbing issue for a clogged toilet, which was covered. So, that was fine. It was a hair clog thing so that was an easy solution. AHS said that I can renew or add them to my policy next October. But that doesn't help me in the present. I get that though. That's what insurance is and I understand. I'm satisfied with the service and the technician that came out but I'm a little disappointed in the process.

The tech was real professional. I talked to him quite a bit. He was telling me what he was doing and why that happened. We were just disappointed that it took that long to get the unit. But it was a propane heater and it's really expensive in the area, and Home Shield didn't want to pay for it. They wanted to ship one out of their own warehouse. So that threw things back about five days. It worked pretty good, though.

Sometimes the heater would blow hot air and sometimes it wouldn't. Doctor Cool fixed it in about 20 minutes and I was happy. They told me it was calcium buildup around the heat sensor. Other than that, I've had issues with AHS but the difficulties that I have are par for the course. When you call in to file a claim, it takes four days at best to get somebody out there to take a look at the problem. And if the techs have to call in for approval, then it's another however long before it gets fixed. If they have to order the part, another how long before it gets fixed. But it is what it is and it's a necessary evil.
AHS should also send out the approved list of items to the contractors so that they don't have to call and that would speed up the process. aside from that, people think that everything's covered but it's not. So they have to take care of their stuff and they shouldn't think that AHS is going to pay for everything, especially for the air conditioning. The cost of Freon is a big thing and if it's a leak, they'd fix the leak but they only pay for 10 bucks a unit for Freon. The market rate for Freon is $130 a unit, so you're responsible for everything over $10. No one ever knows that and I wish AHS would do a better job of explaining that to people. But they do what they're supposed to do, for the most part.

The garbage disposal wasn't working so I called American Home Shield and the tech from Water Heater Solutions got out here in a few days. They were great. But some of the contractors AHS sends are absolutely useless. We just had a contractor out for the range cooker and before he came out initially, I spoke with AHS and they did a video call. AHS knew what my range was, the model number, and the issue but none of that was relayed to the contractor. Then, when the contractor came out, he couldn't figure out what was wrong with my range.
I called AHS and I said I don't think he knows how to fix my cooker and that if they Google the company online, they have 1 star because no one likes them. The rep at AHS was very condescending and said, "Well, of course, different people have different experiences and I might have a great experience with them. I agreed for him to come out but I didn't think he was gonna fix it and sure enough, he was completely incapable of fixing it and it was a complete waste of our time.
He came back about weeks later with the parts and he managed to order one of the wrong parts. The other part was the correct part but he decided that part was too difficult to fix so he didn't want to do it. He insisted that my husband and I help him for the whole three hours that he was here. Then, when he put this range cooker back, he cross-threaded the screws and damaged the heads on the screws because he didn't know how to use the drill. He was about to shove the range cooker back into the spot and destroy the kitchen unit next to it, but I managed to stop him. And he didn't replace the digital screen on the front of the oven properly, so that scraped against the oven every time we open it now. We're now about four months since we originally called AHS. The range is still not fixed and my oven is now worse than it was before anyone came out.
Also, there was a plumber that came out and he was also useless. Our shower leaked and he wanted to knock out the whole wall to the outside of the house to replace the shower part. I went back to AHS and I said I need a different plumber. It was a really simple fix and the plumber who came out the second time was brilliant. He also fixed the garbage disposal. AHS is fine once you know which are the good contractors to get but most contractors are terrible. I wouldn't recommend AHS to anyone.

I had to call them back and they came and turned the water off. They turned off my ice maker too, because it was not working. They said they have to do more repair work, but that was three weeks ago and I'm still waiting for them to call me. I called them today, but they're off today until Monday. I had some difficulty with the claim process in the past with some of the people that American Home Shield sent out. But I always called them and it was addressed. My wife and I had a terrible experience with American Home Shield. We had an issue with our water heater and we had a guy from Whitney Holdings come out. We paid the $100 for the call and then came to find that we have to pay $625. There was some stuff that they need to do on the water heater that was not covered by the insurance, which is crazy because when you get insurance, you expect those things to be covered. We are going to get a brand new water heater and they have to do additional work of plumbing so we have to pay the extra $625. My wife and I decided to pay our dues and we would find another company to do it. When we did that, American Home Shield told us they can only give us $625. The math doesn't make any sense. Also, I would like American Home Shield to be more specific with things because we used the website and we could only say we have an issue with the water heater but we couldn't specifically say what it was.
Another issue was we paid for them to come out to take a look at different things that we were having issues with and he only took a look at three of them -- it was just the water heater, the fridge, and the toilets. He fixed the dishwasher and the fridge which he did a good job of. But he didn't find the issue that we had with the toilet because he didn't see the leak but there was a very slow leak and he didn't take a look at our water heater. I like the idea so I reached out to them on their portal. You just go in there and click rekey. The same day or the next day, they sent someone out. A guy came and he was very friendly and changed all my keys. I needed to even change one lock because it didn't quite work, and he did everything for me.
I had issues with the stove and that was a train wreck. I didn't know that it only works with stainless steel appliances. It doesn't work with aluminum appliances. I have a bunch of cookware that's marked as induction. One would expect it to work because it's from the same brand. The dude came over and straight up started insulting me. I told him I'm paying them money so they can come here and tell me what's wrong with it. I even checked the breaker, I checked with the previous owners, I checked the manual before calling him, but he came here telling me I should have known it. He started slamming my cookware and I had to ask him to get out of my house. I was very scared after that and was about to call the cops here.

One of the breakers in our house tripped causing a surprising amount of the objects in our house to not be able to work. Shortly thereafter, it was determined the breaker would not unflip if we fixed everything, so it was clearly a wiring issue. I submitted the claim to AHS on the internet and in less than 24 hours, I heard from the contractor. Then, the techs took care of the issue on the same day that they came out and overall, the timeline it took to get my claim resolved exceeded my expectations.

AHS has been very good and they have served us very efficiently for over 10 years in Florida. When the dishwasher went out, they sent a very pleasant young man here who took the dishwasher apart and replaced what went out. And it's been working since. Our washing machine also went and it was an issue with the timer. The gentlemen came in, diagnosed it, and ordered the part. Then, the part got shipped, they came back, and they installed it.
After that, the little knob on the dryer went and AHS was very prompt in addressing my concern. The guy who came in was very pleasant and he took care of it. I also appreciated the individual wearing a mask coming in because I didn't know what he’d been through. It was professional of an individual who come in as part of the service industry and it's a good practice. All in all, AHS got things down pat and it's very easy to submit a claim with them. I can do it online or I could call, and it's pretty well taken care of.

The first time that I made the claim, it was very unpleasant. American Home Shield gave me the contractor's information. I kept leaving messages. Finally, they reached back out to me, scheduled the appointment, and canceled on me twice. At first I got mad at AHS, because I told them, "You guys should have let me know." I kept calling them and saying, "Hey, these guys are canceling on me. Is there any other contractors that you have?" And they said, "We're still working on it." But I liked Moore Brothers 2nd Roofing a lot. They were very clean and knowledgeable, and they were in and out.

I'm a new member American Home Shield member and they emailed me a coupon. As soon as they emailed me the coupon, my heater broke. The guy that came out was Josh and had a machine. They go in and test. I really liked his services. He came back and told me everything, what was going on, and what he was gonna have to replace. My thermostat was gone as well as an indicator and some other things. The unit was working fine before Josh left.
Less than two weeks later, the heater stopped again. I figured the problem out and I had told the techs when I called them. They close on Saturdays and Sundays, so I had to wait Saturdays and Sundays. They came and called me first thing that Monday morning. They sent me someone out between 8:00 and 12:30. The guy had the part I needed. The part to light my pilot in the furnace went out. After the tech put in the part, everything was good. It’s up and running fantastic now. It seemed like it was time for all those parts to break down at one time. I thank God that I had American Home Shield.
I already recommended American Home Shield to three or four friends and I told them it will save them money. A lot of times when we need to fix something in our house and we call a technician ourselves, they screw us around. That was what happened before I joined American Home Shield. When I was asking my technician and he told me, “I think before you joined us, whoever was working on your stuff, they might have been putting second-hand parts or something in there.” He said the thermostat was way old.

We've had three claims with American Home Shield and the most recent one was the dryer. The wire that goes to the heating element had burnt in half. The dryer was coming on but it wasn't heating up and the technician came out here and had it fixed within an hour from start to finish. It was a great experience with the tech. It was the same technician who was sent out once before. So, I was familiar with him. The guys put on little booties so they don't track up your house and asked for a vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the lint. So, they're great. By having AHS, I have the benefit of knowing that if something breaks, I'm just going to pay the $100 deductible and hopefully, it’ll be fixed.

I sent in a claim when the house wasn't getting cool. The tech came out and took care of the problem. It didn't take him that long because he found out the problem when he went outside. We haven't had any problems since. The only thing is that my fee with American Home Shield went up to about $60 from $49. I’m on a fixed income, but I’m able to pay it.
When submitting a claim, I might be on hold for a while due to the pandemic. But other than that, I have patience. Whenever I have a claim, American Home Shield has been pretty quick to send out someone. They would call the individual and the individual, if not calling me, would text, and then they would end up calling me. I would know that they would be out here fixing the problem. I only had a problem when I first got American Home Shield. I sent in a claim for the washer and dryer and it took the contractor forever to fix it. They kept saying that they had to order the part. But when the part came in, they never notified me. So it wasn't American Home Shield’s problem.

I've used Plumbers Inc. before and what they always want to do is charge you a good portion. The faucet had to be replaced and below the sink, they had to replace a valve. The plumber did a grand job but in order for me to proceed with them, I had to pay out of pocket of 200-something on that job. On top of that, I paid the $100 co-pay. I asked why were they charging me. They said it was because it was not covered. I was rather surprised that they charged me $100 for my copay and that was basically to troubleshoot it. I kind of felt forced to continue with them and for another 210. Now, that's 310 out of pocket for that faucet plus my monthly service.
When you watch the commercials, they say, "If something's broken, we'll replace it." But American Home Shield is not being honest with everything that they do or don't cover. If you call back and say you want a second opinion, they will say, "We can send a second opinion. But if that second opinion comes back and says the same thing, we're going to charge you another 100." They never used to charge $100 for a second opinion.
When you call to order the plan, they make it sound like the greatest thing on earth. You're paying the monthly fee and the copay and I pay a little bit more to keep it at 100 per each visit. But then a contractor comes out and tells me they could not help until I pay them out of pocket and don't even want to talk to me after that. American Home Shield nails you with things that supposedly are not covered so why do I have insurance then if it's not covered. They want the payment upfront as well. In the past, it's always been, "No problem. We'll just charge it after the job is completed."

American Home Shield has been doing things the way we want to. There are some limitations when it comes to service, but overall, I'd give them a 7 to 8 out of 10. The individual that came out for the dryer was very knowledgeable. The dryer may have come to an end-of-life kind of deal but he did what he could to fix it and replaced the heat shield. That has helped and I was pleasantly surprised with the individual who came out.
American Home Shield doesn't have a formal process of asking for reimbursement, which would be nice to do. A lot of times you submit a receipt, and you have to send an email to them then wait for a couple of months, sometimes three months for them to kind of get back to you. That's been a challenge but they get back, eventually. A lot of times, what happens is a tech comes out and tells us one thing but a lot of times that does not get relayed back to American Home Shield. It'd be nice to have somebody contact you from American Home Shield kind of telling you what is the process. They could send an email out asking what you want to do and what to expect if you were to select an option. There should be some sort of automation built into the system where if I select an option of reimbursement, it automates the process of sending me emails so I'm not having to wait 40 minutes or so and calling the customer service back and trying to just to get a status of what's happening.

The technician was good, did a fantastic job, in and out, and cleaned up, and I was real happy with him. A lot of times you get stuff down, especially if you’ve got an insurance program like American Home Shield, and you wonder who you are gonna get out here. The Rooter King folks are great, and we’ve had them before as well. These people came out all the time.
We’ve used American Home Shield a handful of times in the last 15 years. We've played around with what it costs us a month and thought, “Well, if we could just put it in a savings account and take care of something, would we be better off?” Maybe, but then we’d probably spend the money. With a home warranty, we're not going to be hit with a huge out of pocket deal, and this spreads it out. It gives us a little peace of mind.

There was an issue with the terminal ice maker of our Samsung unit. Techs came out eight times to replace the ice maker over and over again. Finally, they deemed it unfixable. American Home Shield gave us a credit at Lowe's and we were able to get a brand-new refrigerator. This is one of the first times that I've been really in favor of American Home Shield. It actually paid off. Typically, it doesn't. For example, they can replace the air conditioner but the Freon is another 1,000. This particular call, however, was a win for us.
Aside from that, we had all sorts of claims with American Home Shield such as the water heater they replaced. When the water heater died, they had to replace it with 240 gallons and that was a win. There was also also a claim for the garbage disposal a couple of times. Once, the techs had to rebuild the dishwasher from scratch. That was pretty good. I called Home Shield for a heater issue. The blower blew constantly and was coming on and off. We used an excessive amount of propane from the heater and our bill went up to $750. Home Shield was really good about getting somebody brought out here. They had to order parts and they got right back out and fixed the heater. They were awesome and I really like them.
We had some trouble with Home Shield before because we had a hot water heater replaced by a guy. He replaced my 50-gallon hot water heater with a 30-gallon hot water heater, which is half. The hot water heater that the guy took out was still under warranty. Home Shield never did anything about it and they just blew off the issue. I looked it up on Better Business Bureau and that same thing happened before. This guy that they hired still has a business in Texas.
My husband and I thought about getting an attorney. But we're senior citizens so we're on a fixed income. I'm still very touchy about that situation because that's not right for people to do people that way. Another thing was, there were these ladies with Home Shield. I complained about them that I could not understand them. I asked them where they were from and they were from the Philippines. Home Shield has done better this time.
Other than that, all the people that Home Shield sent were excellent except that one man. You can't really throw your company away just because of one guy, but I wish they would have done something about it. When looking at a warranty see what it is in your area that works. The service may vary by region. Some of my family live in Amarillo, Texas and American Home Shield doesn't do really well up there. But down here, I've had excellent things with them and was the only reason I renewed with them. Also, check the appliances that they replace because not everybody's honest.

I received a bill (bill dated 10/26/2021) from A&E Factory Service (also went by the company name of Sears) for a repair service (service date: 10/25/2021) for my refrigerator, in the amount of $99. On 11/15/2021, I called American Home Shield (AHS) Home Warranty to inform them of & dispute the bill. I spoke with Sam, the AHS phone representative, who stated that he had spoken with A&E Factory Service and assured me that I do not need to do/pay anything. Sam confirmed that I had already paid the service fee to AHS Home Warranty; therefore, I do not need to pay A&E Factory Service, who AHS Home Warranty had dispatched to my home to complete the refrigerator repair service.
However, I received a collection notice, dated December 16, 2021, from Receivable Management Services (RMS), LLC for the amount of $99. I contacted AHS Home Warranty, again, and was told that my case would be escalated to the supervisor. This representative (I do not have the representative’s name) promised to call me back with an update within 24 hours. I never received that follow-up phone call.
On 2/14/2022, I called AHS Home Warranty, yet again, and spoke with Mila, the AHS phone representative, who was very rude. I was transferred around twice before I finally spoke with Hazel, the Escalation Department, who stated that she would forward my case to the Contractor Relations Department. Hazel also stated that she will call me back with the status. I have received follow-up phone calls from Hazel, stating that there was still no response from the Contractor Relations Department, but after February 25, 2021 (the last follow-up phone call), the follow-up phone calls just stopped.
I had previously informed Hazel that it was very difficult for me to talk on the phone, because of my job. I work for healthcare, and within a call center, so it was/is very difficult for me to make outgoing phone calls and/or answer incoming phone calls. I have also been working over-time due to the COVID pandemic; therefore, this inconvenience is more of an inconvenience to me to have this head-ache dragged on for so long, which was very unnecessary to begin with if AHS had employees who were accountable.
On February 26, 2022, I tried to contact Hazel to inquire about the status of the escalated case that was submitted to the Contractor Relations Department. I spoke with a female representative (did not get the representative’s name), who stated that she was unable to directly connect me with Hazel; however, she would send a message for Hazel to contact me back.
It is now March 14, 2022, and I have yet to receive a follow-up phone call from Hazel, the Escalation Department, nor the Contactor Relations Department. My credit is very important to me. I pay my bills the day after I receive them. I have a perfect credit score. I don’t want this one little mistake, from American Home Shield, to ruin the credit that I work so hard to maintain. Just because the contractor, who American Home Shield had dispatched, were unknowledgeable about the process/procedures of payment/reimbursement between both companies. I would like for this minor problem, which turned out to be an unnecessarily-lengthy issue, to be resolved once and for all. I would also like a confirmation that this issue has been resolved, so that I can submit to the credit reporting agencies.

The convenience of having American Home Shield is when you call, they identify someone that can remedy the problem. I don't have to search the Yellow Pages and I can always expect that the contractor that's being sent out is reliable and insured. I sued them when my tenant had a GFI problem. The contractor Westside came in and corrected it. When considering a home warranty, understand the coverage. Know what's covered and what's not covered. Also, there's a difference in what you pay as an owner as opposed to a landlord.
American Home Shield's automated service is a long process because they have a countless number of people who are trying to reach them at the same time. Another thing is since I started with them, I've gone from 30 something dollars a month to now nearly $70 a month. It's not because of my use, but it may be because of their overall exposure. Apart from that, I'm fine.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs.

I've got two heat pumps and gas furnaces, and the second floor unit was not blowing warm air. So, we called that in on the warranty. I was upstairs when the contractor messed with it. They had to replace some parts and I also mentioned to him I had intended on calling American Home Shield about my electrical heat pump in my bedroom. It's sort of wide and it's a wall unit. It has half of it outside and half of it on the inside where the controls are.
The tech checked it out and he came back sooner than later with the correction to the second-floor heat pumps/gas furnace. It was cold and it took a little while but it didn't bother me because I told him that it wasn't an emergency. I needed to have it fixed though because my first-floor unit can't very long handle heating the whole house. He fixed the second-floor unit in a reasonable time and told me that they were going to have to order a new unit for the wall unit. It was old. He and the same helper put it in. I was happy with the service. I was a little surprised though when he told me that they didn't finish out the unit in the wall. Apparently, the unit was a little smaller than the original hole so, there was a bit of a gap. So I had some backer rod that I gave him and they stuck it in there. I'll finish the rest myself maybe in the summer. But all in all, it was a good service.
American Home Shield costs me about $700 now but I like having that peace of mind that if something goes wrong that cost more than that, they’ll help cover the cost. So I'm happy to pay $700 although I haven't gotten my monies back. The total amount of work that I've had done on the warranty is 40% of what I paid them over the years. I'm happy with AHS. If I were to talk to people, particularly people buying an older home as I had and it’s a big property, I would tell them to pay $700 a year and that for the most part, AHS covered most of the expenses. They’re straightforward. There are a few things that they don't cover. For example, when I first bought the policy, they didn’t cover either refrigerators or garage doors, but they do that now.
I bought some high-end kitchen appliances, Thermador and I was a little concerned about whether or not AHS would cover work on it or even do a replacement. My oven is a combination microwave, convection oven, and heating oven, and the guy that came out confessed he hadn't done a whole lot of work on Thermador. But he had been doing a little research and he worked with American Home Shield to get the Thermador part. He came back, put it in and it has worked perfectly ever since. So, I was quite happy that they covered the work on that expensive appliance. I would’ve been disappointed if they said they don't work on those. I would also recommend Anthony who most recently did some work for me. He’s been here a couple of times and he’s a straightforward guy.

Customer support is very good. If I can't do a claim online, I always wait and somebody will answer the phone for me. I used their service when my microwave would not heat up anything. They replaced it. I picked the exact same one because I knew it would fit right in where the other one was. My yech was a super nice and wonderful young man. American Home Shield has been very professional and they've done well by us. With everything else being so expensive, it's nice to feel that you're taken care of in case something major happens. We'll probably continue to use them.

When I ask for a specific name to get taken care of, like the kitchen sink, the plumbers are supposed to come here and troubleshoot themselves. They're plumbers and we're homeowners who don't know everything about plumbing and electricity. But, when we put an order in an order in, a lot of times we have to do their job and give them explanations. Then we try to call American Home Shield to get somebody else and then we get somebody from another country who doesn't really understand what we're saying. We can't ever get anything done.
The most recent thing was our air conditioner. The fuse was popping. AHS sent somebody who said “Well, you have to put something else in for that.” And I was thinking, “Okay, if the tech was here for this, and then that tech troubleshot it as an electrician is supposed to do, and then said, ‘This is it,’ then we don't have to pay $100. They're just getting money from American Home Shield and not really doing anything." So, he turned the fuse box on because he knew it was messed up. He got over on both of us and AHS because he didn't really fix the problem. When we called in to try to have someone come out to fix it, they said, “Oh, but you have to put another order in.” I'm thinking, “This is $100 every time. Come on.”
Also, AHS raised our monthly payment and I'm thinking, “What, because we used it?” It has been over and over again. And the only reason why we haven’t changed is because American Home Shield is supposed to be the best home warranty out there. It's just that the contractors that they are sending that are kind of lazy and getting over on the home warranty.

I love AHS, so far. I called AHS. The lady that I talked to was very good, providing me with instructions and how it works. The pricing was also in my budget. Everything worked well. For my recent claim, Diamond went, checked everything, but couldn't find anything. The door was working as expected. The tech told me, “If something happens, give me a call.”
Two weeks later, the tenant called me and said it was happening again. I called Diamond. Diamond told me, “Have them send a video to us to see what the problem could be before we go over there. ‘Cause we just can't find anything.” I sent the video and I got an email that we have scheduled another service request to go over and take a look. However, I got an email from AHS saying the service is from 8:00 to 12:00 on the 16th, but then I also got an email from Diamond saying the service is 8:00 to 12:00 on the 18th. So, I'm getting a little conflict there. I'm not sure if it's the 16th or the 18th. I sent an email to Diamond. But I haven't received one back yet.

The lights in my refrigerator and freezer were not working properly and I couldn't see anything in them without outside light. We did a video call and the contractor diagnosed the problem over the phone. The phone diagnostic was perfect. They were really quick about it. They took the screenshots they needed to verify the problem through the camera in my phone. Three weeks later, they replaced the motherboard light. When I have a claim and AHS is able to fix it, they're great. But when there's an issue and it's not covered with a claim and it should be based on the package I purchased, it's super frustrating. Other than that, my experience with American Home Shield is usually pretty good. When they are able to fix issues, they do.

Recently, the burners on the stove were not working properly. The techs that AHS sent came out within four days and they were able to fix it. However, sometimes you have to wait a while depending on their call volume. I also wish sometimes we had more flexibility on our options around who would service. For example, if we have a bad experience with one particular vendor, sometimes we are forced to stay with that vendor a lot longer than I would want to. I would like to have the option to say, "I no longer want to use that particular company. Please provide me with someone else." But when I'm being forced regardless of how I feel, they have to come back into my home and sometimes that allows them to still behave in an unprofessional manner. It's just tough.

I’m enjoying the service from AHS to an extent. But sometimes I feel like there's a miscommunication on their end with the contractor. At the moment, I'm still waiting now for an item that I turned in the issue with about three weeks ago. When the guys finally called me about my stove, I asked why they were just calling me when it had been two weeks after I reported the matter. They told me that they were just about to order the part since they just got the go ahead from American Home Shield.
American Home Shield doesn’t follow up with the contractor to let them know what the number was or whatever they have to do with the contractor, so I've been without my stove for almost three weeks. As the customer, I'm constantly having to follow up and it’s hard to get in touch with a person. It’s like you have go through an Act of Congress to get a person. But when you finally get a person, they are nice. The last person who I talked to couldn't get the contractor on the phone. It was a Saturday, so she said they were going to follow up on Monday. But Monday came and evidently went because they never followed up to call the contractor. You also don't ever know who’s supposed to do it because now, I don't know the name of the person who’s supposed to do the follow-up.
Aside from that, the price increases and you're never alerted of when there's going to be a price increase. When my price went up to 69.99 a month, I saw it come out of my account and that was how I knew. I called them about it and they told me that with the price of services and having a hard time getting contractor, their prices were going up. That was fine but before you start taking it out of my account, there needs to be some kind of alert. Other than that, the contractors have been good and I’ve not had issues with them at all. They've been very friendly and knowledgeable. AHS also replaced a refrigerator of mine because they couldn't find a part for it. So they do stand by that part of the contract.

I was not happy at all with the company that American Home Shield sent because they ended up charging us all kinds of stuff when it’s supposed to be $75 every time they visit. They came the first time. They didn't fix the stovetop. They said, “Oh, we can’t fix it.” We called AHS back. They sent out a second company, and that company was fantastic. They took care of the issue like they should have done the first time. I would never recommend the first company that came in. The second company knew exactly what they had to do.
Requesting service to AHS was difficult. We had to go through different people and finally get an answer. They don't make it easy for us to get in touch directly with somebody. We have to go through the email. It doesn't make any sense. I'm old school. AHS should give us access to a speaking voice at the other end and not computers. We don't need to go through 20,000 people to get to the right person. I'm thinking of canceling the policy completely because they didn't even offer any compensation. So, it’s upsetting.
I apologize for the inconvenience. We will have an associate reach out to you about your experience.

The plumber was fantastic, swift and straight to the point. He got in and got out and did an excellent job on everything. For the heater, when the gentleman came out, he found two problems, one of which he had the part in the vehicle, and the other one he had to order. There was a vibrating noise coming from the furnace and apparently, there was a difference in airflow between the three floors. So, if we have one floor with the louvers open or the dampeners open with the other two closed, it was going to have some vibrating noise. It turned out that it was really just an operating issue. So, if you open at least two of them, then the vibrating noise would go away. Overall, the techs left a good impression. They were all very polite and very eager to help out. Other than that, submitting the claim with AHS was pretty simple but on the portal, whenever you want to specify an issue, there could be more options on the different types of issues.

My only complaint is they changed what's covered as far as for my needs. When I started with them, it was agreed that they would cover the ice maker because I don't have a garage door or a garbage disposal and so I was like, “Can we do that?”. They said, "Yes" but over the years somehow that got wiped out and I can't get it back in. When I realized that there was a problem with my icemaker, I found out that that had been removed from my policy. And I'm like, “But, but, but…”
With the exception of one company with whom I had a hard time getting through to because they were bombarded with calls, I've always gotten a rapid response from whoever AHS sends out. I cannot think of any who have not been polite and courteous and who did not work with me. The biggest claim we had was when we had to replace the water heater. That was an ordeal because I had to bring the house up to code. I had to put in a chimney liner and run some new venting. Plus, I had to add an expansion tank.
But the plumbing company that AHS sent for the water heater helped me get in touch with a chimney company that gave me the best price. They worked with the plumbing company so they had it to where everything was a go and we said, “Yes, we want to do this,”. The chimney company came in at 10:00 in the morning, was done by 11:30, and they scheduled with the plumbing company to come in at 12:30 and do the hot water heater. By 3:00, I was done with everything. The plumbing company coordinated everything. So, the chimney got lined, the new vents were run, and then the plumbing company came in. It was awesome.
Another time, there was a problem with my washer and the dishwasher upstairs, and the contractor AHS sent was very good. They were very attentive. The gentleman explained everything to me and had both appliances fixed quickly. With the warranty, sometimes I'm paying premiums every month and I end up paying out more than I get back. But the convenience of making one phone call, paying a premium, and not having to worry about a thousand other things pays off in the long run.
The upstairs of my house is a two-bedroom apartment and my policy is under the duplex. So I pay for two washers and dryers, two refrigerators, two of everything. I had a situation where the AC of one of the tenants upstairs went out. All I had to do was call AHS and they were able to get it all arranged. It cost me $200 out of pocket and that was just the disposal of the old unit. Coming up with those expenses at the drop of a hat can be stressful. The warranty takes that stress out.

I've had a couple of issues with American Home Shield. One of my sinks fell and they told me it wasn't covered although it was in the plan. The other issue was when I called them about the AC in the dead of summer. The rep said, "Well, that part's not covered by the plan.” But with my last claim, I called about my dishwasher and AHS got that fixed within 3 days.
I like how I call AHS, they take my deductible, and then they send somebody over. It's just quick. With this claim with my dishwasher, all of a sudden, I get a call from a local vendor, and they're like, "We'll be there in two days." But more communication would be great especially if the issue is not covered rather than them taking the money first and then later on, "Oh, by the way, it's not covered."

A pressure regulator valve went out recently. But unfortunately, our water heater wasn't up to code. Because of that, American Home Shield would not pay for it because it was going to be considered a modification to get it up to code 'cause it needed something. With everything to get everything up to code, it was almost $800. It also took me almost three months to get an air conditioning replaced this past summer. A lot of that was that there were no contractors. American Home Shield could not find the contractor. I had to call myself and get a contractor and they submitted the claim. But then, American Home Shield was like, "Oh, no, this is too much money. We will find one for you." But it took forever. This was in summer, so all the contractors were busy.
When the contractors were here for my plumbing, they called American Home Shield. American Home Shield told them that they weren't going to cover it, but they were going to call me and explain to me why. But I never got a phone call from them. With American Home Shield, I've had zero issues. Once I submit a claim, a contractor gets assigned right away and usually, within a couple days, they're at the house. When the furnace didn't turn on, Fix It Now Heating and Cooling came. There was a fuse and the thermostat needed to get replaced. They went and got the thermostat, and it was working. With American Home Shield, it's good having a reputable contractor that I don't have to research. I was with Fidelity forever but they didn't have a big enough presence in Colorado so I couldn't get contractors.
It also seems that American Home Shield is getting approval quicker to get stuff accomplished. With Fidelity, they'd have to get on the phone, and that would be a process to get everything approved. With American Home Shield, their contractor gets in here, gets it done then leaves. My only thing is the three different price points. With Fidelity, they only have two - a basic one and a comprehensive one. With American Home Shield, it gets a little dicey between the middle plan and the high plan. It doesn't seem there's that much more benefit. They only exclude a couple of things, like the garage opener, and maybe a couple other things. I wish they would have just two plans.

So I said okay. It's behind my stove, so it's not a huge deal. But it's a big hole, so I'm gonna have to fix it. But I'm happy with my home warranty. I had an incident with the refrigerator in Virginia that went out. American Home Shield gave me the money to replace the fridge because we couldn't get my particular fridge in. I ended up coming out of pocket on that one myself to make up the difference.
I've had good experiences with American Home Shield. It's just that sometimes it takes a little longer to get anything done. I had an issue last year with my dishwasher and we had mix-ups because Sears didn't come out. We were without a dishwasher for almost five months. The parts were ordered but Sears didn't come in on time. I received the parts but they never called. When I rescheduled, they were another month out. I told them, "I've got the parts. You didn't call. You just assumed because you saw it on your thing that I didn't receive it. But I had.” So we went round and round on that. I ended up fixing it myself at that point. American Home Shield should be a little more responsive and they should keep up on their end with the people.

They did a temporary fix. Now, I need them to come back. But I haven't heard from this vendor yet since Friday, so I’m gonna have to call them again today. It’s just frustrating that I have to keep calling these vendors to get them to come out ‘cause I don't think they wanna work with warranty companies. They just put us at the back of the line if you call from a home warranty company. But we've had a few claims with AHS that went smoothly. Somebody looked at our stove and that was fine. The microwave was fine, too.
