    When we first purchased the home, they didn’t do a very good job for us with the air conditioner. It failed and their solution was not very good. We were very disappointed. Recently, we had a refrigerator that had a problem with the icemaker. Mr. Appliance's guys came and the owner called to give me the update of what was going on. He said, "I'm sorry. There's nothing that we can do to repair it. We told American Home Shield that and they'll be getting back to you." We had to buy a new refrigerator and AHS is gonna offer up some payment.

    The stove wasn't lighting, and the tech changed the igniter. He was very good, polite, and professional. I called the claim in to American Home Shield on a Friday when I did it.     I've had American Home Shield for a while. I had them with my previous house, which was five and a half years. This house, I've been here almost two years. The contractors that they have are better than the other competitors. Recently, I put a claim because the toilet was clogged. The water was going down slowly. I don't know what the plumber did, but the toilet ended up flushing slowly again. I ended up calling back Friday, which was the next day and then the next plumber, still the same company, came out that Monday and did whatever they needed to do. Since then, haven't had any problems yet. The first one did a quick resolution because it went back to the same thing within hours. But the second one did a thorough investigation.

    The shower upstairs was clogged up. It didn't drain. First, I did a claim to American Home Shield online. When Discount called me, they told me that I had set it up wrong because I put a leak, but I put the drain. So then, I had to call in to American Home Shield because Discount said they couldn't do drainage for the bathroom if it was not a leak. So, I had to change the order.

    The tech was good and was definitely on it. He told me the problem. He actually found another problem in our home too while he was checking the leak. So, he's definitely top-notch. He did his job. In the bathroom, when this house got built 5 or 10 years ago, the stopper that protects the overflow was not cut out. It was a circle behind a wall. So, he couldn't fit his snake down there because it wasn't fixed. So, he couldn't do his job because he had to fix somebody else's problem, even though it took two minutes. He could have just left it, but he did it. He definitely went above and beyond and he showed me and my son what it was.

    So far, American Home Shield's response time for getting service out and then fixing all our issues has been good. United Air Temp was really good with their response time and the follow-up and the customer service that they provided. We've had American Home Shield for several years now. So we were very comfortable with them in providing the service. They give us better coverage. This is coverage that a lot of home insurance companies don't have. So that's very less hassle for us to look elsewhere to other companies. What American Home Shield offers align with our needs.

    There was a switch that was not working, and after the guy came, he told me it was not set up at all. It was not covered by the insurance, and I had to pay more than $300.     My client has American Home Shield as a home warranty. I purposely put my number instead of the tenant's to see when they were gonna call me, and it took nine days, and I had to call back to see what happened. We changed the plumbing company to another company. So, the other one took care of the issue which we had. I am the one who is managing it, and I told my client, "Change the home warranty. This is really bad." It takes me hours to get ahold of them.

    Before, I used to be on hold for a long period of time. Now, it’s electronic and I put the address on electronically because they have it on the code. They recognize my phone number. It took nine days. Then the tenant said, “I haven't heard anything from them.” I said, “I did not either. I didn't give your phone number purposely. I gave my phone number.” So, I called them back. I talked to the customer service, and he was twisting me around. I was one hour on the phone to change the whole thing to another company. I requested to talk to the manager, not complain about the rep but about the whole system, and he never transferred me to the manager. The only thing he did was he changed the company. So, he was resisting to transfer me to the manager so I can let the manager know what was going on and for a long time, I was on hold.

    The garage door opener was not working so AHS sent Colorado Overhead. They examined what was wrong and then they had to order the part. They came back the next week and fixed the system.     When my air conditioner failed, American Home Shield sent a representative from Royal Flush AC & Heating. They had to go get the parts and I had to wait four days before they would approve me getting it fixed. They approved for me to get it fixed but I found out that my air conditioner was not working again the next day. One said that it was some of the pipes had come out of the hose. They didn't put it in right. They told me the drum was dirty. I had to pay 299 for that because American Home Shield did not cover that. It was terrifying to me to even think about what happened with that because it made me very nervous. I was wondering if they were gonna fix it or if they were gonna give me a new one. It seems like they like to do the patching and pay the 125 instead of saying I need a new air conditioner.

    American Home Shield maybe needs to look at different companies. I paid the 299 and the man who came out after they cleaned the drum for me said that was what American Home Shield would charge. I could have found somebody cheaper. I ended up paying 125 plus 299. Also, when they got ready to come in the house with the part, he was looking in his trunk, and I could tell there was something wrong. He didn't have a piece that was supposed to go to the air conditioner, so he had to go to another place to find it. In the meantime, I was hot, cold, and hot. I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of years and I don't plan on stopping it because I might end up needing them if the air conditioner completely goes dead and they can't fix it. There's no need to go to another company when I've already paid American Home Shield enough money for all of my appliances.

    It took a little bit longer than I anticipated to resolve my issue. I had a claim for the dishwasher and we had somebody come out. They ordered parts and had that person come back and install the parts. But the dishwasher kept doing the same thing. AHS pushed it to a new third-party company. The tech came out and that particular person did make a mistake. I had some water leakage that didn't do any damage, but it was very shocking to me. On the fourth visit, they sent out the supervisor of the third person and he resolved it. He found the issue right away and fixed it. All is well. Also, AHS's customer service is really good. Their representatives are very detailed, accommodating, helpful, and professional.

    Over time, American Home Shield has really gotten a whole lot more expensive than it used to be. But makes good sense because eventually stuff breaks and you got to get it replaced. Then, if you try to book your claim online, it throws your appointment way out. But if you call, it can get scheduled more quickly but it’s very hard to understand the people.

    Also, some contractors, though, are better than others. I had a claim for the fridge and it was a fantastic experience. The contractor came within the hour. They ordered the part and installed it four days later. It was a rapid turnaround. But my dishwasher claim was a horrible experience. It was six weeks from start to finish. When the contractor had the part, they came out and couldn't get the dishwasher pulled out. They told me that because they couldn't do it, they couldn't fix it. I had to get somebody else to pull out the dishwasher. In the end, the dishwasher got fixed and that was fine.

    There was a drip in the shower, which ended up stopping. I did a claim to American Home Shield. There was something else on the ticket, too, in the other bathroom, but I never heard back.     Sears came out for our dishwasher. It would run then quit. And sometimes, when it did go through the cycle, you open up the door, the dishes are all wet and not very clean. The computer and the control panel were not speaking to each other. When the contractor came out, when they reviewed it, the first guy that came just ordered the brain box. The second guy came and he was more familiar with dishwashers. He said, “Well, your control panel here is bad also. I’m not gonna put the one in without putting the other one in.” We had personnel in the house before we did that did a poor job of putting the screws back in. He said, “I won't do it unless I do it right.” So, he came back a couple of weeks later. And all the parts that he needed were sent to us. He was there for a half-hour and he was done. And the dishwasher has been working perfectly. I'm very happy with American Home Shield and I have no intentions of going any place else.

    I had a spoon in my garbage disposal and didn't know it flipped it on and it broke. The guy came out within the next couple of days and took it completely apart. He saw what was wrong and said I need a new one. It was a Tuesday when he came and he said he wouldn't get a replacement until the weekend, which was fine as long as the water will drain out. But he called me Thursday morning and said he had a replacement. He asked if I was home and he came and installed it. It was a great experience.

    Two toilets weren't running correctly. The tech placed a seal in one and then replaced the inside of the other one. He was able to fix things that day.     I had some issues with my AC and it was a bit long process. The most expensive part of the unit needed to be replaced and they hemmed hawed around trying to figure out whether they were gonna approve it or not. It was August in Texas without an AC for a month and it was horrible. They finally agreed to pay for the compressor and it got fixed. But not too long after that, I got something in the mail saying that they decided that they weren't going to cover it. I never heard anything back from them. That was really frustrating. Every year with the AC is very frustrating to try to deal with them because they would cover some parts and not other parts. That's kind of been a theme.

    Even recently, I had a toilet issue and they said that because it wasn't due to what they considered wear or tear and they wouldn't pay for it. It's very frustrating to me because that's how the toilet came into my possession. From what I understand from the plumbers, whoever built it put two flanges on top of each other to raise it up enough so that all the holes fit in properly to the toilet. That's pretty common practice but it's not the best way to do it. It still ends up breaking and it rusts out, and then it starts leaking. It was impossible for me to know that before the toilet broke.

    I also had a claim for my disposal and A&M Plumbing came out. Their tech was the one that told me I could have a second opinion. I called AHS back and they said it had to be within seven days and I was past that. I had A&M Plumbing fix it and it was a lot of money out of my pocket. It was a couple of weeks of stressing and trying to figure out what to do about it. And what I pay monthly goes up every single year and it's ridiculous. I've been wanting to change because I have been frustrated with AHS.

    I had an issue with the compressor of the AC. I did a claim online and it only took a few minutes to do. Then I had to call AHS but it wasn't too long either. The response time from Doctor Cool was pretty quick. They were very friendly. They were very kind to even tell me what was really going on and what they did up there to kind of have an idea of what the process or the problem was. I got my issue resolved. The tech even told me about the fact that the AC unit was a little bit older. It might be in my ideal situation to either upgrade or just keep an eye on it. He told me that there might be a future problem, but it's something that's simple that I could do. So he was looking out for me. I really appreciated the little extra tip.

    American Home Shield has been very effective at getting contractors out and getting things done. My air conditioning unit froze over, thawed out and then spilled over. The timeframe was very good and the contractor was very effective. They came out the next day after AHS called, and they realized it wasn't a plumbing issue. So, they referred my claim to the air conditioning people who came out the following day, which helped us immensely.

    Usually one thing leads to another. If there's a plumbing issue or an air conditioning unit upstairs then it leaks through the ceiling and causes drywall problems. We spend $300 today getting the drywall repaired and AHS doesn't cover the drywall section. It would have been nice had the drywall been covered too but we understand that’s not part of our coverage.

    The people that came out through American Home Shield were good. They had to replace my gas stove. They brought it last week, but they were having trouble finding somebody to connect the gas. The line is already there, they just have to connect it, and that’s what they're coming back for today. I didn’t get the stove that I wanted. I thought I was getting a convection oven but they didn't have any that were in stainless. I got the other features that my gas stove had, but it does not have a convection oven.

    The plumbing had a leak that was flooding the area under the sink and the faucet's handle broke off. The plumber sent did a good job. He was very friendly.     The fan that was installed by the previous owners burned out. I called Home Shield and they immediately sent somebody out. It was like the next day, I had someone out here, which was surprising. Then it was determined it was burned up. They didn't have a fan in their truck that was equal to the one I had. They said, "We'll give you like a $70 buyout for the fan, and then you can go purchase your own." That was exactly what I did. I haven't called Home Shield yet because I haven't had time, but I'm supposed to get like a $70 buyout for that fan.

    I love AHS. It's convenient. I've used them about six times, and I only had a problem with one contractor. They were rude and they took apart my dryer and it had a bunch of lint and stuff. It was from a previous owner and they said that I had to pay $150 to have the lint removed or the guy was gonna leave, take pictures and send it back to Home Shield. I said, "Well, I can do it myself." He said, "Well, I have to leave. I can't wait." So, he kind of forced me into paying $150 for them to clean my dryer. I told Home Shield I never want them in my house again and they said that they would work it out to get another company to come out next time if I had a problem. This latest electrical company that I had was the best company I had come out, so far. They were quick. The guy they sent out explained everything to me and told me my options.

    The refrigerator door was sagging and I couldn't close it. There was a gap also where it wasn't sealing correctly ‘cause it was cockeyed. That claim was on a Monday and the first vendor couldn't show up until Friday. They sent another vendor who couldn't come 'til Sunday. So I called American Home Shield and said, “Can you give me a different vendor now?” And that vendor came the next day, and he fixed it.

    But I called for a repair of my air conditioner and the repair people go, “Well, no, it still blows. And we're not responsible for efficiency.” It was 86 degrees inside my house in the summertime and I asked American Home Shield, “Do you want me to die or what?” It's not an efficiency issue but fact that it's not cooling. Plus, it's not like they replace the entire air conditioner. It's only $1500 and they didn't pay that out like they said they would. That's pretty crappy of AHS, and of the vendor for not submitting my issue as a nonworking air conditioner. Other than that, AHS is good at everything else.

    A tech came out for our claim and was supposed to have been with appliances. I paid $100 when American Home Shield sent someone out. It turned out the issue was not my washing machine so a plumber was sent out. The plumber came out unequipped and he ran something down the drain trying to unstop it. But it wasn't the right one. He was gonna have to send another plumber back, which never showed up. He was supposed to have replaced the garbage disposal. He said it was filled up with something. That was on a Friday. On Monday, I called and nobody showed up. I was very displeased with them. I couldn’t even wash my clothes until they resolved my problem.

    I called American Home Shield and were trying to say on Chapter C or E, about a guy they’re talking about that had to get on the roof and it wasn’t included in the plan. The rep told me that it was gonna cost me 500 and something dollars out of my pocket if this first company they sent out had to come back out. I was not doing that. I called another plumbing company and paid them. The plumber saw my problem and did not have to get on the roof. He ran something down the drain and unclogged my drainage. This was the same thing that the other plumber could have done. I'm very dissatisfied.

    I had the previous owners of this house roll their American Home Shield warranty over to me. They had an older 1920 style boiler downstairs, and I wanted that covered. So they covered that and also the pipe. With the boiler, it makes me feel a little more secure to think if anything happens, it would be a big deal. I just had to have them come and fix a couple of things. So, it was great. I've used them throughout for plumbing and stuff too. But this last plumbing issue I had, it was really great to have them.     I requested two services and those are very minimal. It took the contractor less than five minutes to fix the job. But overall, the call response was awesome. I was impressed. One problem was with the dishwasher. It was something that was stuck in it. So, the tech just cleared it out and helped us understand how to clear it in the future. In that way, it helped to understand a bit of dynamics of how to take care of the things ourselves rather than inviting every time a new repairman.

    I'm planning to continue American Home Shield for the near future.     Some services of American Home Shield are done well. I recently used them for my washing machine and the customer service rep was excellent. She was true to her word and she got me the contractor that I requested. She called back to confirm it. It was a delight to have that experience. The contractor did a great job. I've had them before and I knew that they would assess the problem accurately.

    I had some problems with American Home Shield too like when I needed a water heater right away. When I called the contractor they assigned, they couldn't get here for a couple of days. They said that even if they came, they would have to wait to hear back from American Home Shield. I was gonna be without hot water at the height of COVID for well over a week. I had to spend thousands of dollars out of pocket to have a special kind of water heater underneath my house because I couldn't take that risk to my health. I was very distressed about that.

    I also had an incident with the air conditioning unit. It was several months before we got that all straightened out. I sent letters trying to get to upper management and never got a response from any of them. Also, it’s amazing how the price keeps going up and up and up. I have considered going to another warranty company because other people indicated they have had success with Choice and a few other ones. I have to weigh that by the time the contract renewal comes again this summer. That aside, my recent experience was fine so I got to be hopeful.

    My faucet was leaking. The techs had to replace the handle. They just had a hard time with that because they had to take the handle off to get to the faucet. So they had to do some cutting and there's a nut or something to take off. But the replacement wasn't installed properly. Now, there's an aesthetic issue. Other than that, AHS is definitely worth having. It's better to pay that $100 deductible than to pay a couple of thousand to get something fixed.

    I call American Home Shield when I submit my claims and I've never had a problem. In the past, we had an option to choose somebody.     My recent claim with ACT Appliance was wonderful. That was very fast. I had done something to my filter when I changed it, and it wasn't working. My son-in-law came over and he said he thought the thing that resets the new filter wasn't working. So, I had to call American Home Shield. The tech came out and worked with it for a while. He was a very nice gentleman. I had a new filter, and he said, “Let me try that.” He put the new filter and it worked beautifully. They took the money on my Venmo. It’s very easy to pay.     We had a storm. First, it started with the breaker and then it started blowing the GFI in the garage. It was fairly easy when I submitted a claim online with AHS.     A contractor had to come out once before and my heating unit quit working again. The techs they sent were very informative. They let us know what was going on.     My blower motor was making a noise when the HVAC unit started up. The contractor worked around with me. They had to order a part and it came a couple of days later. Then, they came back. It was awesome and I would recommend them. They were 100% great. AHS has been awesome. So far, the first claim was easy. The second one we've had, it's been troubling.     Two weeks ago, I used American Home Shield's services and the experience was great. The claim was for my garbage disposal. I went on the website to submit the claim and they sent me a link.     I was very hesitant to sign up for American Home Shield because I thought everything is so old and they are not gonna cover things or it's going to be prorated. But that wasn't the case. When my furnace went out within a few months of getting the insurance protection, I sent in a claim. Everything went just as they said it would. They sent out a person that could deal with the problem and did an assessment. He said the furnace had to be replaced as it could not be repaired. American Home Shield paid 60% of the cost. I knew that there was a cap, so that didn't bother me. My payment is $53 a month and the cost of this furnace was at least $3,500 that they paid for. I had my furnace replaced and there was no problem.

    I love the contractor I got. We were starving for good servicemen. Their tech got here so quickly. If I had tried to do it on my own, it would've taken weeks longer to get somebody here because there are so few. It’s great to get introduced to the contractor this way because I wouldn't have known about them. Sometimes, having this home warranty feels too good to be true. My first experience with them was excellent.

    I have mixed emotions about American Home Shield. The last transaction that I had was for my microwave, and they ended up buying that out. They're going to replace it but that's been over a month ago, and I still don't have a microwave. I think it takes too long. You never get to talk to anybody in the United States, and they always tell you that they're going to address your issues, and then they never do. Also, I would like to see them stop raising their rates. I literally was going to cancel my service with them this year and they ended up giving me a little incentive to stay. If they continue raising their rates, I am likely going to go somewhere else.

    There is one contractor with AHS "AT Appliances" whom I review in yelp by providing the pictures and facts. My 7 years old front loading Samsung washer started shaking because its Spider and Drum (made of iron) broke in 2019. They said I damaged it by overloading and AHS denied my claim. After struggling with AHS, they offered me the another contractor with second opinion. He opened the washer and shown me stating that the spider is damaged because of corrosion, normal wear and tear resulting in normal rusting and weakening of the attachment. The washer part (Spider and Drum) which got corroded and broke due to aging over the use of the last 7 years. This can be used for the review. This was absolutely not a case of overloading like AT Appliance and AHS authorization officer accused me of.

    I would request to please make sure that AHS must not influence or motivate such vendors to submit false diagnosis just to reject the valid claim in order to save money from valid repairs. This was the very first impression from many customers in reviews for AHS, my real estate agents and me (after this experience). I hope that such cases would be used as a learning to avoid similar stress to customers in the future. I requested AHS to blacklist this vendor but guess what AHS is still working with them.

    My another repair on the same washer to replace door's rubber gasket performed in Nov 2021 did not last even 4 months. When I complained AHS, they sent me again AT appliances. Their tech visited my house, promised me to get it replaced in one week but today I heard from AHS that they submitted the report stating that this failure is the result of my misuse. The door of washer was being closed very hard after replacing this gasket in Nov 2021 whereas the door closing was very smooth and light with original gasket that lasted almost 7 years.

    Therefore, the real reason of gasket tearing was that either gasket was not installed properly in Nov 2019 or was a very poor quality, incompatible, aftermarket part that got worn out and torn in as little as 4 months with door opening/closing activity. They submitted the report to AHS that I misused the machine to tear off the gasket. My question to them is why my original gasket lasted for more than 7 years if I am a misuser. I am an adult having no kids at home who can cause such damage. This is the second time AT Appliances tried to oblige AHS either under pressure from their management or just by themselves offering the favor.

    The dishwasher wouldn't drain and I tried to submit a claim to American Home Shield through the computer but it wouldn’t work. So, I did it over the phone. And if I tried to call the company name that they gave me, all I got was a constant busy signal, so I couldn't do anything about it. The repair guy was okay. I had a garbage disposal installed and whoever installed it didn't take the plug out so the dishwasher could drain. So, I paid $125 for nothing. I asked if I could get a refund and the guy said no because he had to come out. But that was fine, it wasn't his fault. The person who put the disposal didn't do what they were supposed to.

    I was in an office in the town where I had the property in Arizona and a lady came in and said she needed a homeowner's insurance. She asked what she needed to fix her appliance and she was told that it was a warranty that she had to get. She said she had one but they canceled her because they said they were no longer in Nevada. She lived in Laughlin and I was in Bullhead, and I told the lady to call American Home Shield and that they're great. She said she was gonna call them. And she did.

    American Home Shield is easy to get ahold of. I make a request and the repairman comes out. I have it on my home, my main home and on my mother-in-law's condo, and it's working perfectly. My microwave stopped heating any food or liquids and the contractor came out and did the initial assessment. They determined that there were parts needed and they ordered them. The parts came within a week and they were back on the 12th day, and installed them. The microwave is working perfectly now. The contractors have been great. I've been using Bay to Bay since I got American Home Shield here. There was a claim on plumbing for my mother-in-law's condo and the service was very prompt. I'm very pleased with the work, which is why I still have AHS. I'm a retired Marine so all of my friends are retired military and most of them have American Home Shield.     We do the claims online and it doesn't work. Though this last claim, it worked only because of Sears. That claim wasn't bad and now that I know that Sears had the appliance serviced, I might just go to Sears directly and bypass my warranty. Then eventually, I'll get rid of it. My experience with the plumber was not good. He cancelled the service but he never let me know he cancelled. So I haven't had the issue serviced since August.

    I always contact American Home Shield by phone and this time around, they were very responsive. When I was very frustrated and very angry, I spoke with a woman who calmly explained what they could do, and I felt reassured that this time it was gonna get resolved. I had something going wrong with the heater portion of my HVAC unit and American Home Shield had sent out several different companies to address this problem, and it was never resolved. I was very frustrated with them and I told them that I wasn't gonna pay any more for American Home Shield, and I thought that it was a big rip-off. They apologized. They wanted to make it right, so they hooked me up with the Pearsons in my area.

    Pearsons came out and addressed the problem and fixed it. I needed to be on hand to tell them about all the previous visits and what they had described as what they thought was the problem and all the things that they did that didn't resolve the issue. Otherwise, I felt like if I hadn't been there to talk to the repairman about that, it might have taken a lot longer to diagnose the problem. He was able to go right to what I was led to believe was the problem, and he confirmed that it was the compressor and got it going. They had to put a new compressor in the unit, and it fixed the problem. I couldn't be more pleased now.

    I can reach out to American Home Shield at any time. But the folks I get on the phone are not always the most knowledgeable. The last claim I submitted I did online. Usually, I get a response back within 24 hours if I call and the lines busy, or I ask them to put me in a queue. But lately, I've been doing online.

    The AC unit worked fine, then it shut down. It would try to start up again, shut down, and try to start up again. It would do that five times before it shut down completely. The contractor came out and cleaned the part. It ran for three days. And it started all over again. So, AHS sent a different tech out. He cleaned that same part again. It ran for another 24 hours and shut down again. So, I did a third callback. The second guy that came took an image of the serial number and said if it happens again, he would just order a new part. Which I just got a call back today that the part is in, and they will install it on Thursday. But it has been annoying. The techs have been very polite and professional. So hopefully, when they replaced this part, it will be fixed.

    For the most part, I don't have too much issues with the majority of the technicians. There's always one tech here or there who doesn't listen, and I reported the problem. I'm probably more knowledgeable than a lot of customers because I work in the industry. But I don't argue with them. If they say this is it, and I try to suggest to them what I think it is and they don't want to hear it, I end up getting a call back.

    I had no intention of renewing my contract. But for some reason, this time it renewed automatically, and AHS has not done that. Because last year, my AC went out and they did not repair it. It's a 25-year-old AC system. Of course, they found a reason for not repairing. It's 25 years old and beyond its life expectancy already. This is not 1950 where stuff lasted 50 years. To think that a component in the home would last 25 years and beyond in today's world is unrealistic. They did not provide any assistance with that, not even a payout to replace it myself. In most instances, I got what I needed repaired even with a callback or two. That time, I did not and I was very dissatisfied. The expectations were unreasonable. But for $200 a year, American Home Shield gives me a peace of mind knowing that under most circumstances, calling in a tech to fix something would not cost me $1,000 or more for just one incident.

    We thought that there was a stoppage or some sort of blockage in the main line coming out of the house. We submitted the claim online but I almost needed to make an emergency request and I couldn't figure out how to do it. Other than that, the website is really user-friendly.     The town we live in is pretty small, so sometimes American Home Shield has to have somebody come in from the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. So, it's a little bit harder scheduling them. But other than that, they usually get somebody ina nd for the most part, it's been a good result. We have had a few times where the person comes out and doesn't fix the problem, and they have to send somebody else. But for the most part, we've been pleased with their service.

    The toilet was was running continuously, and On The Mark came out, did something to it with the seal, and left. The repair guy did everything that he needed to get done, and he was very professional. Everything was handled in a timely fashion. However, a few hours after, the noise came back. It was the same gurgling and the toilet was running again. I called back then they scheduled an appointment and came back out. This time, the repair guy did something else and he was able to solve the problem. He also gave me some recommendations as to try to maintain it and I haven't heard a noise out of the toilet since.

    I have an ongoing problem with the toilets in my house. The same problem keeps happening after a few months. They're not older toilets and just expensive ones. This is the third time a plumber has come out from American Home Shield to try to fix the problem. Plumbing Works has come out a couple of times and one of them said, "These are very expensive toilets but they really don't work very long. You're better off, seriously, in the future, buying a less expensive toilet.” These were here when I bought the house and they were only a couple of years old. The plumbers were out last week and they were super nice people. They fixed the problem and they had the supplies on hand. They didn't have to come back.

    I've been recommending American Home Shield for over 20 years. However, I will no longer be doing that. The reason for that is I made a claim several weeks ago on a garage door that wouldn't open. My car was stuck in my garage for 12 days. I read the fine print and if American Home Shield cannot find a service person, they're supposed to allow me to get my own garage door opener person, which they did a year ago. But something happened. I kept getting people in a different country and they wouldn't give me the approval to get my own person. There was no manager.

    I spent two days tracking somebody down local that I could speak to in the state of Oregon from American Home Shield. I said, “Enough is enough. 24 hours. You either have somebody out here or I get to choose my own person.” I ended up getting approval. I just checked my email and I had to pay the $395 for the new garage door opener. American Home Shield had to talk with the contractor while he was here. They gave me a number. It was sometime last week that I got an email on Friday saying, “We've approved your reimbursement for 395. You'll receive a check in 21 days.”

    In the end, I only had to pay the $100 service fee. But I still had no car and I had to get a rental car. It was a nightmare. I couldn't get anywhere with the service department. I just have to keep calling the one 800 line. I finally went in as a sales call and said, “Listen. You guys, don't send me to your service department again.” I'm shocked because I've used American Home Shield a lot. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a warranty company. And I've used them all.

    Also, I found out from a guy that American Home Shield sent out last year that he stopped working for them because he said they would not pay him in a timely manner. I had American Home Shield try to send me somebody from Portland and say it's going to take three weeks. I'm like, “No. There are people local. You either find local people or don't sell your warranties here.”

    My experience has been pretty good. Most of the contractors and vendors that have come out have been great. We haven't really had any problems with American Home Shield itself so we've used them for two houses now. For this house, we used the home warranty mostly for small things. But at our last house, we got half of our air conditioning system replaced and I ended up saving $900.

    We've had a few plumbing issues in this place. one was for some clogged faucet. It was in the sediment trap. There was one tiny thing when we requested the plumber. It told us the status updated and directed us to contact Ferguson and Sons, the contractor. But we received no notification that that was the course of action they needed to be taken. That aside, the technicians were great. They even took a look at a couple of other things to give estimates that we had questions about. They were really personable and they knew their stuff. This home warranty is for peace of mind. We just bought a house and most things are covered. But there are some things that we feel should have been covered.

    It was multiple problems that the tech was good enough to figure out. I had a washing machine that was leaking water onto the floor. So I thought, I had a repair done just a month before, and they came out and put in a new rubber seal. And it looked like it took care of it. A month later, I did some laundry loads and I had a problem. But while he was there saying, "Well, yeah, dirt gets in that seal and they can cause a leak" and he was going through the motions with the washing machine and it overflowed from the discharge tube. So, I had a plumbing issue. We discovered once it slow to respond to when it was pumping out the water, and it would spill on the floor, and it showed up in the front of my door, streaking it to the washing machine. But he was good about talking about what happened.

    We had to get another service call. I did not use them for that because this has been the third call for something I thought was a washing mistake. And it got all handled nicely. But if it wasn't for his eyes seeing the backup from the discharge pipe, we wouldn't have discovered it. I'll call again. American Home Shield has been very good and prompt.

I called, they came out, they fixed it. The fourth time this happened, I called and complained, and said it was ridiculous. 75 times 4, that's $300 out of my pocket. This thing's not even worth $300.     When my husband was in the garage, he noticed the water was coming down through the board and everything from the top of the garage. Then we went to the kitchen and we opened the bottom of the kitchen cabinet and saw water leaking. So I called American Home Shield and talked to a young lady named Sophie. She did the claim and gave me the claim number. Then she told me the company would be Draingo. So I waited until later that evening because I thought somebody was gonna call me to come out. But no one came. I called Draingo and got their voicemail that their office was closed. It was a Saturday evening and they had closed at 2:00.

    I called American Home Shield back and told the rep, “Oh, ma’am, this water can’t wait till Monday. This leak can’t wait till Monday. And somebody needs to do something.” So she switched out from Draingo to K & S Plumbing. Then they said they would come Sunday morning. So on Sunday, the guy came and he looked under the kitchen cabinet, and he turned off the faucet. He didn't go over in the basement. My husband turned the water off but water was still coming some, but it had kinda slowed down a little bit. So the tech said the issue was the faucet. He said he was gonna put in a report to get that ordered. He turned the water back on and after he left that Sunday afternoon, water started coming down. My husband said that we had to turn the main water off to the house. So we had no water Sunday night.

    My husband stayed up all night Sunday dumping water. I dumped water up until 12:30 a.m. Monday morning, and then I called the water company. I told them, “Y’all, we need to do something. What they say, the faucet is the cause of it, so there's just leaking water.” The young lady told my husband to turn it off at their main line. It just so happened a meter reader gentleman was in the neighborhood down the street. He came and turned it off. So the water was shut off on Monday.

    I talked to K & S and told them, “Hey, y'all, we don't have water. Can we get a pipe fixed? Can I go buy one?” But they had to order it. It was supposed to come in the following Saturday. The faucet came in that Wednesday and they came out that Thursday and put it in. But it was in a different color. My sink is stainless steel. But it's not leaking anymore and the water is turned back on. But it's all this damage that has happened and it could have been worse. I'm glad we were home because it could have been all over the house.

    I had to call my homeowners insurance company and they had to come and drain water that has damaged my kitchen cabinet. The construction people had to redo the bottom cabinet. I am going on a week yesterday in our hotel because the big fans are going on in my kitchen. They've had to take a part of the linoleum off the floor. They have these blowers that are trying to blow dry from the cabinet all the way down to the basement. It has really been a disaster.

    Customer support responds accordingly. When I submit a ticket, a technician is usually out within 48 hours. My garage door wasn't responding to the remote. The techs were okay and they did a bit of troubleshooting to see what was going on. Eventually, they realized it was a frequency issue and they would have to replace the entire garage door opener system.

    But American Home Shield pissed me off. I went through a process with them today, because my upstairs AC unit went out. They said they are gonna pay for the equipment, but they were not gonna pay for the installation. I would have to pay $2,100 for that. That doesn't make any sense to me because I pay them $80 a month in premiums plus I pay the $80 deductible. The other side of that is American Home Shield won't tell me how much they're actually paying to get the unit. So, they're probably trying to save themselves of the installation cost.

    They're trying to say that's because there's a provision in the contract that states that if there are any upgrades required due to new equipment being installed, then the contract owner has to eat that cost. That doesn't make sense because if you're getting something new, then you're gonna have to have new hookups for it. They consider that an upgrade because it's getting new hookups. And it has to be within code. Well, if you're hooking something up, of course, it's gonna have to be within code. You're hiring a licensed and bonded agent. AHS is trying to get over on me and this is a bait and switch sort of contractual loophole that they use to say, "We don't pay for installation, but we pay for equipment."

    Also, for a company called American Home Shield, I know I was not speaking with an American. I knew I was speaking to somebody who did not understand what my issue was and could not explain it to me because English was not their first language. They were reading a script and never talked to anybody who could actually help me with my problem. AHS is not providing value.

So far, the repair people have been great, and the claim process seems easy. It's convenient paying 75 bucks then somebody comes to look at our stuff.

    I almost canceled on American Home Shield back in October because it took so long to get our dryer fixed and our hot water heater replaced. It was frustrating because we had the parts and just because AHS was working with one installer, our dryer sat there and we had no dryer for two and a half weeks. The guy said it was easy and all he had to do was pop it in. If he had the piece, he could do it. So, I kept trying to call. I asked if could not go with someone else and get this done. And we weren't able to. So, I had to borrow other people's dryers. Neither of our things were totally dead yet so we were able to use our old. But with my stove, I had to do the legwork for them to get someone to install.

    We had gotten a downdraft stove and the people who they had installing came in and said that they couldn’t install. They didn't do those any longer. So, I had to call American Home Shield back. They hooked me up with the same company three times. The lady said she told them and I said that I told them too. AHS then said that I could look for someone to install it and they would reimburse me. I didn't feel comfortable at first and told them that it was their job to get someone to install it for us. After it sat in our garage for almost four weeks, I said that I was gonna find someone else. I called around and found someone who would install it. AHS reimbursed me for getting it installed. I was babysitting for my granddaughter and I was trying to make calls when she took naps and all kinds of different things. But it all ended up working out okay in the end.

    I'm glad I didn't cancel because I had my dishwasher die and AHS replaced my stove also. So, I'm happy with them right now just because they came through for those. But if you want something fast, you can't get it fast. It has to go through all the channels. At first, I was so angry because it took so long but they came through with this other thing. So, maybe it's worthwhile because it helped tremendously this last time we had to call someone.

Don't go with them, instead save that money every month and use for any unexpected things comes up.     We called American Home Shield about ducting. We didn't know there was going to be a more major issue. We thought we had holes in the ducting and air was coming through cold. We wanted to have somebody check it out. American Home Shield scheduled a time to have somebody come out and put in something. Normally, smaller repairs are $100 and somebody shows up and fixes it. It takes you four weeks to get it done. In this case, American Home Shield was obligated to replace a heating unit and an air conditioner and they were timely in responding. They then referred to a section in the contract that said there are certain items that are not covered. Their process of doing so was alarming. We already knew what they were saying. We knew the contract and it's pretty spelled out.

    We called the number that was provided and talked to a woman. She gave us a general spiel, “Sometimes they go between a couple of hundreds and maybe up to $350.” Based on contract law, she was not specific about what the costs would be. It's never gone over 350 was her final statement. On the contract law, you have to be very specific. At that point, we said to her we'd agree up to 350. They said permits and Freon were only covered up to a certain point and that you would pay the difference.

    There was one other mentioned that was called a line set. These are the tubes that go from your air conditioner to the inside heating unit and they're made up to fit a certain length and distance. They're not something you usually want to be fabricating too much of. They're under pressure and they're important. You can't have a working unit without the line set. It's part of installing an AC and heating unit as well. In the contract, it spells out that American Home Shield does not cover those if it needs to be replaced.

    What American Home Shield said was you should have no more than $350 to pay. When the installer came, he installed the entire thing, finished the job, and gave us a bill for $2,300. There was a bunch of other stuff that he wrote that day for an exact amount of $2,341. We contacted American Home Shield that day and the tech was sitting there, waiting, and pressuring us to sign this piece of paper he had just drawn out. I've known enough to know that I'm not going to sign something if I have a disagreement with it. I surely wasn't gonna agree to that all of a sudden price that he showed. In contract law, it’s very clear that you have to be informed then give consent. Normally, a blue ink signed signature is required. In this technological world, everybody's doing it on a phone call or an email.

    Immediately after we did the phone call that was required, we asked American Home Shield for a breakdown and they never responded. We've done our diligence to get from this from them. There's a very poor protocol. Now what they're claiming is that from the day that we talked to the woman about these added costs, which she said $350 would be the max, they told me it was going to be $2,341. That was not possible because the bill was made that day by the tech. They have no other documents from Lam-Air that suggests anything else. Plus, they hired Lam-Air, not us, and are responsible. Now, they're trying to shift that responsibility onto us saying that we owe the company this amount though it was never disclosed.

    In contract law, there's a pool of problems with them. We were trying to hope that maybe there was a mishap and they're gonna jump on and correct it. All I asked of them was to let me hear the audio of the phone call that was that day and you will hear what the woman said. That was the contract we were agreeing to. That's the only other piece of paper or document we've been given. We certainly didn't find anything and we made a verbal contract at best and only through a vague set of parameters, up to $350.

    I was surprised at the protocol. We've never had to use American Home Shield before as something on a larger scale. We've only used them for the refrigerators and ovens. So far, other than waiting a month or more, techs come out and they do repair them. We pay $100 sometimes to have them come out to do these things. It seemed worth it. But up until that install, that's when I saw why advocacy groups swarm. Because when a major appliance needs to be replaced, American Home Shield has this little bait-and-switch that goes on.

    I've written letters to all the CEOs, which are very hard to find. One guy's name shows up as CEO on Wikipedia but there's no contact. You can't actually talk to these people. I've been in all their departments on the phone. We've done the least 10 or 11 phone calls now. We've been diligent to stay on top of it. American Home Shield keeps claiming they call us and miss us. They use the wrong phone numbers. They did that to us on the day of the installation as well. They called us the day before on the working number then they used an alternate claiming that they called us on an alternate number. That was when I began to get suspicious. I've seen these old tactics done and I'm familiar with sales as well. I'm a general contractor. American Hoem Shield hopes that I will be under pressure and pay the bill now and they get off with having to pay what it took to install.

    I have no records to even see if the guy did what he said. I don't have anything right now that spells out what was to be done and for how much each thing was done. Because out of his own mouth, he said, “I didn't know your insurance. I would have shown this to you right away.” American Home Shield said they would send a guy to make the bid but I never got to see the bid. I asked for it but they didn't give it and they went forward. Now, they're claiming I'm responsible for this added stuff, which even with the line set that they claimed they replaced, was only fabricated. They cut off the ends and put them on. I could see the work done. You can see the old line set versus the new pieces added. There's already a discrepancy there and the guy didn't actually do what he said.

    There is a lot of shady stuff going on. You look at Lam-Air’s background and you realize they got a whole list of people that are pissed at them. You then start to put it together. To me, they're working together. Dispatch was talking to Lam-Air going, “You better make them sign that piece of paper.” The guy said, “I gotta go to a doctor's appointment, you need to sign this.” I told him, “I'm on the phone with American Home Shield trying to go through the multiple steps I have to do just to get to somebody.”

    When I finally do, the runaround they're giving me is they're claiming, “No, we sent you a notification that it was going to be $2,341,” which is not true. The tech made that number up that day and it was a very specific number - $2,341.75. There was no paperwork that suggested it either. We get stuck with this surprise. Now, they're handling it where they're saying, “Our hands are washed, you deal with Lam-Air.” Lam-Air then comes after us with a claim that if you don't pay this, you're going to end up with a third-party collector.

    You don't get this insurance because you expect, occasionally, to have a refrigerator repaired. You get it because you know appliances are expensive and you know that household items can be a big hit to you if they fail. You believe you got a net there then you watch how they get the money out of you. This is one of the ways. American Home Shield made us pay for a portion that they're supposed to cover. There's an argument to be made under law that they should actually cover the line set too because you can't have an operating unit. That's their job is to provide the operating unit. Is not just to provide me the pieces and say they can't supply a part. The way they wrote their contract is very vague as well. Now that I know more about American Home Shield, I could not recommend them to somebody else.

    My garage door would only come up so far and get stopped. The techs said that they didn't see anything and that everything was okay. But the next morning, I noticed a bracket was broken off and when the door would go up, it would shake. I called the techs back and they told me that they would have to come back free of charge 'cause when they came the first time, they said nothing was wrong.     Last year, we had someone looking at our AC, which we have an attic. When the techs were in our attic, they fell through our ceiling and there was a moment where no one would help us because that would be considered extra service. It was interesting. Because if a vendor comes out and they fall through the ceiling and need to fix the ceiling, you would think that there'd be someone to check in on that. It all got taken care of but I took care of arranging all of that and making sure that it was good. Still, I like the ease of having American Home Shield. You call, you click and someone gets sent out. We've had them for 14 years and we've had 30 claims and it's always been resolved. My most recent claim for electricity wasn’t resolved though. I have to call someone who does the air conditioning because it's not an electrical issue.

    In 2020, my water heater was replaced. It was a Rheem and the gas valves were faulty. American Home Shield sent out Service Contractors Plumbing. They knew exactly what it was when I called. I had another claim today with AHS with a water leak on a faucet outside and they also sent Service Contractors Plumbing who fixed it quickly today. I've been pleased with their service. AHS is less expensive and even the service call is less. If I called Service Contractors Plumbing, it would be an $85 service call just for them to come out, not even to fix it. I had the two plumbing calls and it didn't cost me anything other than the $75 service fee, which was less than it would have cost for me to just have them come out. So I saved on that and limited my out-of-pocket expense.

    When my air conditioner went out last year and I had AHS' guy come out and look at it. He gave me an estimate. Then, I had an independent contractor and he told me that I could request cash in lieu of. So rather than sending AHS' person, it ended up being cheaper for me a little bit getting the cash in lieu of and using my own person. Overall, I've been pleased with AHS though a little bit more choice in contractors would be good.

    We were out of the water heater for a week. The tech had to get approval from American Home Shield then there was a weekend involved. The tech had to pick up the unit. I called on a Thursday. The tech thought he could maybe get the unit on Friday or Saturday. But it didn't come till the next week. It was one thing after another but the issue finally got resolved so we were happy.

    We liked the tech very much. He was a very nice gentleman and I was really surprised that he came. He said he would come between 2 and 4 o'clock. But he was here at 9 o'clock in the morning. He really came right away. Normally, techs say they’re coming and they don’t show up for two or three days. Overall, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. It’s nice to know that it's is there if we need it. The process worked very easily. I've used the home warranty here. We have a little condo and I've used it over there too.

    A couple of weeks ago, I made a report when there was no heat in the house and then they responded within four days. The technician was very professional. He came in and took a look at the problem I reported. When the AC was turned on, it didn't respond because it doesn't have a heater coil in there. What happened was when the house was inspected, the people never opened up the air conditioner unit to see that there was no heater coil in the unit.

    The technician from the AC company that came in said that because there was no unit before, and then there was never any unit of heater coil into the spaces there, it wasn't covered by the policy. If there was one and it was to be repaired, then they will repair it. If they have to replace it, they will replace it at no cost. But since there never was one, then they couldn't do anything. So I understand that. It’s logical. He said that the company was gonna send a quote regarding the products and the installation that I was missing. But he didn’t follow up. American Home Shield should at least send a quote of the repair to be made if it wasn’t covered.

    I am not pleased with American Home Shield at all. In fact, I may be canceling the policy depending upon if they truly follow through with what they told me. My son has a policy on his house. He's canceling it too. Their customer service people tell you one thing, and then they don't follow through. The whole thing started with my dishwasher. The first company they sent out did not complete the job because he would not pull the machine out. So, we needed a second opinion. They said they would waive the additional $100 fee. They never did that. I just got a bill for that. That was huge for me because it was not my fault. It was the company they sent out. What I'm finding is that companies write up something that they don't tell us in terms of they write up what American Home Shield wants to hear so that they don't have to cover the appliance.

    The customer service people are inept. They have a script. They tell you what you want to hear, and they don't write up what the conversation is. They flip it. After conversations with the assistants, they will not email you. So, there's no record of your verbal conversations. You find out about it after the fact. If I don't cancel this week, I will not be renewing my policy.

    The light in my ceiling fan wasn't working. I contacted American Home Shield via chat. Their chat system is great. You don't have to wait on the phone. The people who came were very professional. They asked what the problem was. I took them to the room. The first contractor that came said that they couldn't fix it because it was just the light. It wasn't the ceiling fan. The ceiling fan was working properly. So, they were gonna go back to American Home Shield and let them know that they needed to send a different contractor.     The hot water heater stopped working. I called American Home Shield and they assigned Leak Seekers. I was supposed to wait the 24-hours for the contractor to contact me but we didn't have hot water and I have an 11-year old. I kept calling Leak Seekers and I did annoy them a little bit but still, they were very gracious and nice. They were having a company meeting at the time that I was calling and they apologized for not having been able to answer my call when they called me back. They scheduled to come out within 24 hours. The tech, Wayne, came and he was extremely nice and efficient. The water heater had a blockage and he got that taken care of.

    Many years ago, AHS replaced our central heat and air unit. The service fee then was $60 and they replaced it with a $4,000 brand-new unit. I wouldn't have had $4,000 in my pocket to pay to have the unit installed, let alone pay for the labor. I also had an electrical problem with her ceiling fan and they sent some very wonderful electrician that came all the way from Charleston, which is two and a half hours away from this house. They said it was cheaper to just order a new fan and they gave me choices. The next time I needed assistance was electrical for the light fixture. They don't sell the light bulbs for the fixture I have in my kitchen anymore because it's a halogen light and they were extremely informative and helpful. They helped me get the correct light bulbs and installed them.

    But AHS can only provide service as good as their vendors. Last year in April, our microwave had problems and it was blowing the breaker every time we used it. They sent out a vendor and the vendor took the microwave. They tested the unit in their business and said they didn't find a problem with it. The tech didn't listen to what I said was going on -- all he listened to was the fuse is blowing. He installed it and the microwave still had the issue. He took it back and he couldn't find anything. He tried a few things, fixed a few parts, and brought it back. While they were here, they tested it and the issue happened. They said it was not the microwave and that I need an electrician.

    AHS sent me an electrician and the electrician checked out the electrical and everything but everything was fine with the electrical. He tested out the microwave and said the microwave was sparking and blowing the fuse. He said it needed to be replaced. AHS said the vendor needs to reassess his opinion or they need to send a second opinion. The vendor said he wouldn't reassess so they sent someone for a second opinion. But the vendor they sent for a second opinion kept canceling and kept blaming it on AHS. AHS doesn't cancel appointments. A vendor dispute got started between AHS and the vendor and they told me they can't do anything with my microwave until that vendor dispute is resolved. From April of last year until March of this year, I did not have a microwave.

    They replaced it and they replaced it really well. But the vendor came on a Friday and we were the last installation. Their employees didn't want to work. They came and told me my screws were stripped and the removal of stripped screws is not covered as part of the installation process so I have to get somebody else to come and remove those. I called AHS and they sent another vendor and the screws weren't even stripped. But other than that, we're very happy with American Home Shield. They have come through with us many a time.

    Everything has been great. American Home Shield sends people out quickly. It's better than fixing things on my own. One thing I did not like that they did recently that really upset me was that I paid 145 to have somebody come out and look at my air conditioner. It was like my yearly maintenance for the summer. I had them come out, and I told the guy it hasn't been cooling right. He looked at it, but he didn't take the top off. Then he said it was my compressor that was gone out and that I needed to call back American Home Shield. At first, I needed to go online to Home Shield and request them to come back out. That way, they could bring a new compressor, and then call them and tell them that. So I did that. When I did that, Home Shield assigned somebody else to come right back out and charged me another $125.

    I called American Home Shield and asked, “What was going on? This is what they told me, to have them come back out. They just were out here.” They said, “Well, I'm sorry. As soon as you do that, it charges another $125,” and they send somebody else out. They also told me that there was no way to cancel that other appointment when I had already been told 30 minutes before what was wrong by another company. But I'm glad the second person came out because they said that my fan motor went out and fixed it. The air conditioner has been working fine since. But American Home Shield's customer service needs to work with the customer to fix the problem.

    American Home Shield is okay, except I was irritated because I put in a request recently for a service. And we had to pay $100 for the plan that we have to initiate the service. We did that. They tried to process the payment, and on our side, it showed up that they had withdrawn the amount twice. So, I told my husband to wait a day or two just to see, because sometimes those kinds of things happen. We waited, and I got a phone call from them saying that they called because they couldn't get my money. I said, “Oh, no. You guys tried to charge me twice the other day.” And they said, “Oh, well, we're telling you that your payment is not going through.” So, I panicked. I knew we had money. There's should be no reason. I drove to my bank and they said everything was fine.

    I called AHS back from the bank and someone else answered. I said, “I just drove to my bank to double check on the payment that you guys were saying wasn't processed.” And she said, “Oh, yeah. We actually had a problem. We had a problem with our system yesterday.” I said, “So, why were you calling me, blaming me for not making a payment? She was making it sound that I wasn't able to make the payment. And it wasn't my fault at all.” I was in a tizzy because of that. There I was stressed out, thinking, “What the heck is going on with our account?” Because I don't like to be late and I don't like people telling me that I owe them money. I ended up hanging up on them because I had to drive 20 minutes to get to the bank to figure out what the heck was happening. Other than that, AHS has been quick in responding.

    The technicians were fine. But this last job that they recently did where they had to replace my water heater, they replaced the entire thing, which we were very happy about because we just bought this house in December. And we were happy to have a brand new heater for this 20-year-old house. Two days ago, the hot water wasn't working again. I didn't know who to call because it wasn't a real request. It was just something that was just installed. So, I called them directly. I had their number. And they were fine. They said, “Oh, we'll come out and look at it but we need to talk to American Home Shield first to find out how to do this.” AHS said that they would send him out at no charge to us because they need to check on this job. But if there was something else that needed to be done, I would have to pay another $100 for another service request, which I agree with and understand.

    Those guys that they contracted with were fine, friendly and fast. But I'm hoping that it wasn't an error on their part regarding the hot water not working. So, we're waiting to see if it happens again. And if it does, the contractor told me that I'd have to call him and we would have to talk to the manufacturer of this brand new water heater. So far, the water’s hot. But it stumped all of us as to why it wasn't working when it was brand new.

We paid the $125, somebody came within two days. Then he got the parts back the next day. He came back as soon as he got the part. So, within four days, the stove was fixed.     We had an ice maker go bad on the refrigerator last year, and American Home Shield had one guy come out. It took him four days to get here then he fixed it, and it didn't work. We called AHS back, and they sent somebody else out. That gentleman said, "Well, they put the wrong ice maker in." He left, came back in a couple of days with the right ice maker, put it in, and it's working fine. The first guy was worthless, but the second guy was fabulous.

    The last service I had was fabulous as well. We called on a Friday, and the tech was out here Monday. He had the parts, the washer was fixed in an hour, and he was gone about an hour and a half. We've been washing clothes since. It's beautiful. My wife was really happy, and so far, I like American Home Shield. I pay a lot of money, but I get stuff fixed.

    I absolutely love American Home Shield. It has been the best thing I've done in a long time. After my husband passed away, I could no longer have a handyman to fix things and do what had to be done. My friend told me about AHS and I got them. They took care of my dishwasher, my refrigerator and my swamp cooler. I had sent two people already to buy from them.

    AHS has been good when we request for service. I put in the claim and they contact me right away. The swamp cooler air conditioning contractor was fabulous. They came out and put a new motor in. It worked for a little bit and then, it quit working. So, the guy came out and it needed a new thermostat. He went to town, got the thermostat, came back and put it in. I can't even say enough about how good that was and how nice they were. The dishwasher was a different story. It was an awful young guy who came at first but a third guy got there and decided I needed a new dishwasher. That one was not gonna work. So, AHS took care of it and I appreciated it. I'm ahead of the game.

    I had a leak I found in my kitchen sink and it developed into a stoppage. The plumbers responded quickly and were very professional. Everything is working better than it has in years. American Home Shield was a good value for what I paid for a month and what the service charge was. I'm happy with the response time. When I need them, they come. I don't have to worry about repairs that are gonna pop up. I live in an older house and things are gonna happen and I need somebody to take care of it. When the policy expired last year, it went into the new one and ASH was billing me for two policies. It took a little while to get that straightened out but they refunded me the money.

    I've been somewhat disappointed sometimes, but my experiences seems like they've been better. The first year, I had a lot more frustration in trying to get things accomplished. And I had a lack of communication with American Home Shield. I would call and be told they would call the contractor whatever the issue was. And nothing was clearly reported, and I would call a week later, and I would be right back to square one. That was frustrating.

    Lately, I like that AHS has been better that I've actually had someone I can call and know by name and it's like a real person. I look to have somebody that I can get ahold of or at least have momentum go forward. And it seems like AHS is working towards that. So, I like that. Recently, the garage door wasn't opening and closing all the way properly, and made all sorts of strange noises. It screeched and popped. Diamond Garage Doors came out and looked at it and got it fixed the first time there. They were good and very professional.

    American Home Shield seems to have been able to respond to most of the issues I've had. Back where I'm from, you know who to call. Out here, I don’t know anybody, so I put it in their hands and it seems to work out pretty good, so far. Generally, I haven't had a problem with them. A couple of months ago, I had them fix a garbage disposal. The only time I've ever had a problem was once they sent a pool company that wasn't adequate. They then sent somebody else. They fixed the issue. Right now, I'm waiting for a contractor to call me to come over and take care of two claims - one is a leaky faucet and the other one is a leak in the hot water pipe in either the wall or the floor.

    I filed a claim for the water heater. American Home Shield assigned somebody to me so I reached out to the actual third party plumber. They told me on Wednesday that plumber couldn't come out until Thursday. So I called the plumber on Thursday and they told me they could not come out till Tuesday. But that was not gonna work for me. I told them that I was gonna cancel the appointment and call Home Shield back.

    I called Home Shield back, got on a call with customer service, and I said, “Hey, listen. My hot water heater’s out. The plumber that you assigned to my account could not come out until Tuesday. It's Thursday. Could you find me another plumber?” They said, “No.” I asked, “Why not?” They said, “If they're within the 48 hours for them to actually come out to you and if it's less than 48 hours, then we won’t change it.” I told them, “Well, no. I can't wait. That more than 48 hours. And I'm not gonna wait and I can't wait. I need to have hot water. I'm not asking you to fix it on Friday. But at least by Saturday, have somebody come out to me.” But they said they were not changing it.

    I asked to speak to a manager and they said, “Well, my manager is busy right now. I'll put in a ticket for you to speak to him.” I insisted that I wanted to speak to a manager now but they said, “No, you can't. I'll put in a ticket.” So then I said, “Well, listen. This is what you can do. Tell me who your contractors are. Email me a list of your contractors that you use on American Home Shield. I don't care how many it is. I'll call them all. If it's 100, I'll call them because I'm not waiting till Tuesday to get my water heater working." But the rep said they couldn't do that. So I was getting frustrated with them. I was not very happy.

    I would go cancel my services with American Home Shield because of that. It was definitely handled in the wrong way. When I called somebody back, I said, “Hey, listen. This is the problem.” I was told that they would take care of it. Then they called another plumber and got him out there on Friday. That was unnecessary stress that I had to deal with.

    AHS sends out terrible vendors who try to get me to spend more money on stuff that isn't needed. The contractors already quote me prices of what is required before they even attempt to get authorization and they don't even leave an invoice. I always have to get a second opinion every single time, even for a little stuff that I know isn't even worth the whole effort. It's ridiculous.

    With the water heater, they tried to charge $600 because it needs new stuff even though the property is only 12 years old and the fittings to the wall look brand new. Then they charged $225 for the permit I need for a water heater, even if I'm an individual person. Then, if I need approval, it goes through the company to these outsourced foreign call centers. They don't understand what I'm talking about when I'm trying to describe an issue. And then I have to elevate it and email someone locally in the extra senior level support to get something done or to get a second opinion. Or they just deny it or come up with some reason why it's not covered, even though in the paperwork it is. I spend so much time fighting and dealing with stuff. I can't get anything done the same day, even like a sink stopper. It took two weeks and a second opinion to get the job done.

    I really hate dealing with American Home Shield. It seems like more of a scam now and not a benefit. They send all these emails that I can upgrade to this and I can get this much in coverage. But then when it comes down to it, they're replacing everything with the cheapest quality possible. It's totally a sham. I end up, especially in my own personal home, replacing stuff myself. It's not worth the time and hassle and I'm not going to get anything like quality of what I have, even with all this extra coverage and all this nonsense. I’m looking for a better company that operates like they used to.

    We had to use the service and the customer service was very bad with the vendor that American Home Shield selected. They were trying to rip off me and American Home Shield, trying to cut side deals. When I told them I would purchase a certain part we needed, they got upset and disrespectful. So, I called American Home Shield and told them I will find my own vendor to repair the AC. I requested that they refund me the money and they only gave me a partial refund for the repairs that I had done to the house. AHS said that they will reimburse $700 to replace the coil. I still haven't gotten that money so I’m still out of pocket $700 on top of $1,900 to replace an outside condenser as well. At that point, I could’ve paid for all of that myself. But I've sent the bill to them to get cash for the reimbursement.

    My icemaker went out in my Whirlpool unit. I called Home Shield, and getting through was pretty nice and fast. They called the repair company, then they called and told me they were on their way. The tech came a couple of days ago, took my unit apart and told me that it just quit, that he will have to order a new icemaker. American Home Shield left it up to me. I watch on the computer to see if they left me a message or the phone. If they don't, then I have to call the repair company and tell them that I'm waiting for my appointment.

    American Home Shield has always been very good with me, and I've always had it since I've been in Texas. They tell me who's coming then the guy that comes gives me a card before he comes in my house. The professional people that come out have always been very nice, and I've had no trouble with any company.     I'm enjoying American Home Shield very much. When I've called and talked to someone, the customer service has been really good. Once I put the service request in, about an hour later, I got something from them requesting me to put in some times that would be good for us. When they couldn't fit those times, they came back with a time that fit for them, and I agreed to it.     My refrigerator didn't work so I called American Home Shield. It's something that's happened a couple of years ago too, so it was not a total surprise. Somewhere along the process, someone asked if I changed the water filter in the refrigerator, which I did. After I hung up, the appointment was made. Runyon was the contractor and they called me and set the appointment. Everything was fine.

    But then I thought, "How long has it been since I changed the filter?" It's been a while, so I changed the filter and the ice maker worked almost immediately. Once it worked, I called Runyon to cancel but I did not call American Home Shield as I should have. Nobody ever came by but the home warranty didn't know that. The ice maker worked only one time then it no longer did. I defrosted it and so far, it has not been running. I had to call American Home Shield again and ask for service. Next Tuesday, techs are supposed to come and service the refrigerator.

    American Home Shield has been fine. They're very courteous, seem to know what they're doing, and have done things properly. I intend to keep the service for the foreseeable future. They've done their part. They seem to be reliable and getting someone to answer the phone is usually not a problem. They get right to work.

    We had a leak which we thought was from the gauge on our water filter. A contractor came, and they fixed that but it still was leaking. They came back, looked at it closer, and found that there was a crack around the bottom portion of the filter itself. They had to come back a couple of times but got it fixed. They replaced that bottom part of the pump, and it was covered under warranty. But now, we're having trouble with our oven and American Home Shield is trying to say that it might not be covered. We’ve used the home warranty service fine up until this point. Their contractors have come and fixed everything.

    The service is good. Usually, when I call American Home Shield's customer service, they take care of what they have to, and right away. Whatever company they send our issue to, they call right away too and make an appointment. Even when we had the condo, our microwave broke and the guy couldn’t fix it. It was so old. So, they sent me pictures of microwaves that I would be able to get from the service. That was very nice. They didn’t just bring one and say, “Here you go.” But once in a while, the technicians that come here seem shady. Like this guy that came to do our refrigerator. We ended up buying a new one ourselves. But he came three times to fix it. And he was in a regular car, not in a company car. He had his tools in the trunk. And I don't even remember what the name of the company was.

    But the recent guy that came in and took care of our plumbing issue for us was very professional. He went out of his way to make sure that it worked properly. Because the water leaked in the bathroom and we couldn't shut it off. He didn't leave and say, “I'll come back later.” He made sure that he got it taken care of for us so that the water wasn't leaking.

    We like to use the warranty when we need it. Because it's a big blessing to not have to dish out all the money to pay for stuff that we would normally have to pay for if we didn't have the coverage. I always tell my family or friends that they should get the service. Even my niece just bought a home, and I told her that she needs to get that so she will be covered if anything were to happen to any of her appliances, where she won't have to put out so much out of pocket if she didn't have the warranty.

    I had a claim for the toilet and a water leakage. I did it online and the next day, the contractor called me and came out that same week. It was quick. They didn't fix anything though. The guy told me what was wrong with the leakage because we would have the kids in the bathtub and sometimes, the water splashes out. It creates a puddle and it will leak downstairs. He said that the grout needed to be filled in again and they don't do that. So that wasn't really a repair because we got to do that. He could have fixed the toilet but it wouldn't have been through the American Home Shield. So, it was a large lump sum we would have to have paid and I’d rather buy a new toilet for all of that.

    The contractors are good and even with the other contractors I’ve had, I’ve never had any problems. The only thing is, because of the pandemic and no one has control where pieces have to be ordered, it was one process where AHS was supposed to be doing a follow-up. No one ever did. It was always me. The contractor was following up and the guy did an excellent job, checking in to see how everything was going. He would be telling me that I need to call and tell AHS x, y and z. He would call and ask if I heard anything yet. Overall, AHS is a good company. That was the only minor issue that I had but they were able to resolve it because they were able to get me my microwave.

    My water heater exploded, and I had four inches of water on the ground in my basement. Water got into my furnace and they had to change the motherboard. The techs responded very quickly and addressed the issue. The only problem is American Home Shield is very particular about what they will and won't cover. That's very frustrating when you're paying money and you're expecting something to get covered and it doesn't. You would think that your coverage would pay for any damage to the HVAC system, but no. If it was wear and tear over time, then it was covered. It's false advertisement because they say that they're going to cover it and you would think that the water damage would be part of it, and it wasn't. I had to pay another $480, $100 for the service fee, and then 380 for the actual fix.

    We have a new tankless hot water system and the plumber that installed it did a terrible job. The ventilation was not staying connected to the egress point on the side of the house. So, air intake and air output were flush up against the wall and I had to use duct tape and strap it in place as best I could so that I would have airflow until it can be properly fixed. The contractor called the same day and they came out twice. Once to inspect it and then once to fix the problem.

    There was a toilet stopped up in my bathroom that every time I'd get it unstopped, it would stop up again. I also listed my knobs, which might be stripped because every time I turned on my shower, there was water running out of the faucet still. So, I wasn't getting full shower power. The service was great and the contractor was wonderful. They even fixed an issue. I asked about the showerhead that I wanted to install but I couldn't figure out how and they told me what I needed.

    By having American Home Shield, I love that I can call and within 24 hours, I'm going to have somebody assigned. For instance, when I had an electrical problem recently, they had a contractor that had some personnel issues. So, he was going to be a week. It went from being that one day 24-hour turnaround that I'm used to. The company called me and told me that. So, I called American Home Shield and they said they would reassign. The next day, I had somebody scheduled. I love being able to pick up the phone and get an issue fixed. I feel more comfortable as a first-time homeowner. I loved everything about my house that I was buying except there were a lot of older systems. Even though they got passed by the people who did my inspections, it gave me the confidence that I could buy the home and get things fixed without going into debt or being afraid.

    Living in Florida, you don't ever want your air conditioner out and to know that I had a 10-year old blower part of my air conditioner that, at anytime, could go out, I've never had to worry. I feel more secure. One of the things I liked best about AHS was you could customize it to what you needed and feel like you're spending money wisely. So, research and reviews are important. But eventually, it comes down to what works best for you. And American Home Shield did a lot of that for me.

    Shields Plumbing came out to handle a plumbing issue and they did great service. It was a faucet that needed to be fixed and the tech replaced the plumbing underneath. He was very polite and he did it fast. But I also asked him to put in a water line for my refrigerator and he ended up charging me $220 for the entire work, on top of the $100 I paid AHS. The parts weren't that much and he wasn't there that long. I don't know how the price went up so high.

    There was a clog in the plumbing that was connected to my kitchen sink and my washing machine, and it would back up into my sink and leak everywhere out of the washing machine pipe. The plumber had to snake the drain and clear the clog that he said was bad and probably there for a long time and everything's been working perfectly since. It was getting to the point where every time we used the washer, it would leak. I was worried about the floorboards getting damaged or rotting.     I had a bad garbage disposal. When I turned it on, it was making a roaring noise. It wouldn't do anything. I called American Home Shield and whoever I talked to was very nice. The rep gave me the name of the company and the phone number. She said they would call me within 24 hours. The technician was very polite and professional. He came in, did the job and was gone. They ended up replacing the garbage disposal. It's working fine now.

    When I submitted a claim with AHS for a leak, the reps were very helpful and pleasant. I’ve used them twice and the interaction had always been friendly and cooperative. Very professional. I wasn't given any hoops or hurdles to jump through. They said that they would send someone out and they gave me the name. They asked me the time, that would be convenient for me. I shared that with them and it was set up.

    The tech that came put shields on his feet so that he didn't mess up my carpet. He was very professional and introduced himself. He asked me what the problem was. He said that it was a good thing that it was gurgling. That shows that there was some airflow in there but he was going to check it. He stayed here for a little bit until all the drains were clear. He said the sewer smell was gone. He snaked it out twice to make sure. He said he thinks that some of the flushable wipes may have been the culprit and may have gotten clogged up in the drain. He stayed here until we filled up the tub and the sink. He flushed the toilet how many times to make sure there wasn't a leak and to make sure that there wasn't any more backup in the drain. Since he left, I haven't had any problems.

    My heater pilot light went out and we needed somebody to light that because all it was throwing out was cold air. When the contractor called, I let him know what was going on but he said he doesn't do that and he never showed. That was the last we heard of anybody. They also sent a young boy to do a job and he couldn't do it. So, he sent somebody else. But most of AHS' contractors are very professional. They sent somebody to fix our toilet and they did a very good job. I recommend AHS because they respond pretty well. They also do good work. You call them and they contact whoever the contractor is and send them to you. The only improvement I would like to see is the timeframe.

    On the day that the tech came, my washing machine did not act up like it had been doing. So, he tried to make it do what it was doing. It was going to the spin cycle. But it didn't do it that day. A couple of days after he left, it started doing it again and it's been doing it ever since. So, I can't use it at all now. I've had to call back to get another visit as soon as possible. They told me that I had to call American Home Shield and tell them first, which I've done but I haven't seen anybody yet. I'm giving them some time to make arrangements but I hope they don't take too long. One time, when my dryer was broken, I had to wait three weeks till it got fixed. Other than that, AHS has been good. They're just a little slow because they're busy.

    I had to have a new hot water heater put in. Some of the plumbing was not up to the new code. American Home Shield said they would cover the cost of replacing our hot water heater. But they won’t back the warranty on my hot water heater unless I bring it up to code. They didn't cover that and I had to take that out of my pocket, which was $800. On top of that, had to pay $100 to them. I wasn't real happy about this.

    When I called in about it, they said they would have covered that under the Platinum service. I wasn’t aware that there was a Platinum service and I’ve been with American Home Shield for several years. I talked to a girl there and she said this was something they started last year. I already have a contract with them and I can't upgrade my plan until October. American Home Shield has been forcing me under the old contract and that doesn't seem more than fair. Other than that, I don’t have any other problems with them until this instance. The service was great.

    The hot water heater had failed. It was leaking, so it needed to be replaced. The contractor was good about getting with me to schedule and diagnose the problem. And they were sweet. My only downside on that one was, you would think they would take you to the cleaners on all those extra things they add on. It ended up costing me $1,600 extra on that install. Ouch.

    I had a recent experience with billing. I had the opposite experience back in January when I had put in a request for service, and I couldn't get anyone to come out. And they were like, "Oh, they could come out in three weeks." I got water flowing out from upstairs into downstairs, flooding my garage. I found someone locally, who came out and I just paid them. Yesterday I got American Home Shield to refund the $75 service call fee since they couldn't find anybody else other than the person they referred me to. We canceled the service call since they couldn't provide anybody. And they wouldn't refund the $75 service call fee that didn't happen until yesterday. Meanwhile, they beat me up for the $75 service call for the hot water heater. That took a while and a couple of phone calls. And you give them a week or two and you call them back. "Okay, guys, you're beating me up to pay the new service call, but it takes you 90 days to, you know. Yeah."

    Other than that, I look at American Home Shield like a budgeting tool. I pay close to $100 a month. One of the things I like is the ability to trust their contractors more. Even though I'm feeling queasy about those extra fees, when they charge $199 to weatherize the pipes. That just meant they put the insulation around it which takes four minutes. And a lot of add-ons. But it's the ability to know that the contractors have to explain what's wrong and deal with AHS so that there's a third party in there that you can trust so that they can't snow you. Having that third party in there gives you a better feeling about what is actually needed.

    My ice machine doesn't work on my fridge and we’ve been pushing that to the side because it would work and then it wouldn't work. Then, the microwave stopped heating. We made a claim for the microwave but if we had the option to put both of them together, we could've knocked them both out. If I have two issues going on, I'll have to make separate claims. So, I'll have to pay twice. It's not really a problem but it would be nice if American Home Shield would tell me to just pay the deductible and they would cover two problems.

    Our experience shouldn't affect AHS. They're just the middlemen and they cover a majority of the costs. Their contractors are limited though. I wish that it was a bigger spectrum or maybe I can choose who I want to go with. For example, my cousin works for an AC company and if I were to choose, I’d ask my cousin to come over and check on my AC and it'll be covered. But the contractors were good and I had no issues with them.

    Our refrigerator was intermittently going out. The first time the techs came out, the tech cleaned the coils. He told me to clean up the little rubber seal gasket and put some Vaseline on there. But that didn't work. The bottom two drawers always stay cool. But the main piece was the one not working. The second time, he thought it might be a sensor. So we replaced a sensor. That was looking good. But then it's two days ago now, it got up to 60 some. The first couple of times, resetting the breaker seem to work.

    We've had them out a lot of times and it took multiple visits. If I'm getting something fixed for 300 bucks, this item isn't even fixed even with a brand new sensor. So at that point, I wouldn't really want to pay the monthly rate of AHS if I feel like I am not getting everything I need. Sometimes there's also a delay. We had an HVAC problem and they couldn't see us for weeks. But they replaced a pool pump that had gone out. It got close to two grand. So that was nice. They also fixed our dishwasher but it took a lot of work.

    With all the housing development going on, we would have a hard time finding somebody to come out and do work for us. Since the things that we have in our home are covered by Home Shield, we know that for $75, we could get somebody over here. It’s a little extravagant but it’s good to know somebody would be here and they are really competent people. Home Shield’s service has been wonderful.

    The only thing that needs improvement would be the communication between me, the contractor, and Home Shield. It seems to be a little disconnected there. A tech went on my roof to look at an air conditioning problem we got. He gave me some information and told me what he thought was wrong and what he could and couldn’t do. I waited to hear from Home Shield and nothing happened. It was about 10 or 15 days later when I called Home Shield to see what they decided to do. They said their contractor caught COVID. A bill was sent and the case has been closed. It seemed like Home Shield got the guy out here to look at my work but then they never called me about what happened. The conversation is always with the contractor. I’m the one that’s paying for the service. It's a pretty serious thing if you’re bypassing the homeowner. It was $1,200 later when they finally got another guy over here to do the work.

    I had another claim and the guy who came was wonderful. I was afraid that the toilet was messing around and acting up. I had gone in there and replaced the interior of that tank. But I was still having issues with it and I didn’t trust myself to finish it. That prompted me to make the claim with Home Shield. The guy fixed the issue in no time. We were happy and we gave him some extra money because we liked what he did. We tell people that we have Home Shield and I’ve given them information on how to contact the company. We’re believers and we’ve been there for a while.

    Within the last three years, American Home Shield has changed their approach. Like the last incident, I called them about my toilet, and the toilet had a crack in the tank. So, I talked to the people that fixed the stuff, and they said that every time they said something to AHS about a crack in the toilet, they wouldn't cover it. If I got a problem with my toilet, they're supposed to fix or replace it. So if I call them and tell them that there was a hairline crack in the tank, they start talking about, "Well, did you do it or was it self-abuse?" I told them, "Well, I don't abuse my own stuff. I'm not trying to tear nothing up. If I got a problem, I want you to fix it." So sometimes I just give up and do it myself and think about going to another company. That's way worse. I thought they would just go ahead and fix the stuff, but now, they're getting all picky rooney.

    The contractors are wonderful people. The problem is the ones that approve stuff. AHS has an approval department, and if you get caught in their crosshairs, you're not gonna get the thing fixed, and they're not gonna fix it. If you have a stoppage in your sewer line, they stopped that. They just made up their mind that they don't want to cover something. On some stuff, they just go ahead and cover because they got to. But I get these gray areas, and what they do is they won't cover the stuff. Sometimes I feel like giving up. And they don't tell me anything. They wouldn't mail my contracts. I told them to mail the contract to my mailing address. I told them several times and they keep on mailing the contract to the place where I have the coverage in. It seems like they don't comprehend.

    Another thing is at first, when the technician comes out, I would pay. AHS got this new thing now. As soon as I call up and tell them I got a problem, they charge my credit card. But the man hasn't even showed up. I don't understand. Why are they charging me money and nothing got accomplished? That's a biggie for me. I know I gotta pay the service fee. So when the man comes out, I would think he shows up and I pay. I got no problem with paying him before he does anything, but at least he's here. Why am I paying a service fee but nobody showed up? And when I make the appointment for the people to come out, a lot of times, it would be a week that they haven't even showed up and AHS already charged my credit card.

    Sometimes I talk to people from some other part of the world, and they have this strong accent. I can't even understand them. I gotta say the same thing five times before we get it straight about what the deal is. I don't know where they're getting these people from. I want everybody to have a job, I want everybody to be happy, but nobody's gonna be happy if nobody understands each other. It's like the story about the Tower of Babel. Nobody's gonna understand nobody, and nobody gets nothing done and there's a lot of confusion. Unfortunately, I don't know how to speak Polish, Lithuanian or French. And I like everybody. So, AHS needs to get people who are fluent in English where we can all understand each other.

I'll just submit a request online and I usually hear something the following day. As far as their communication and their professionalism, they keep me informed about everything.     I used my home warranty when my dishwasher would not work. No matter what we tried, it wouldn't turn on. A technician came out and he was saying, “Whoever installed this prior to you guys getting here, they didn't plug something up.” It was just some little tab on it. The tech also said it was leaking and he had to return with some type of part to install on it. My mother-in-law said the technician was very nice. If something's broken, you just have to replace it. But so far, everything's been fixed.

    My cooktop had a crack and it kept on going. I filed a claim and Superior Electronics was out here. But American Home Shield said that the damage was cosmetic so they denied the claim. In addition to the cooktop, I had a claim for the shower that was leaking. The contractor was looking for the leak and cut a hole in my ceiling. It was crazy. I had another plumber come and said it was just a clogged drain. He didn't know why they had to cut the hole in the ceiling to look for the leak. I had to pay that other plumber $200 out of pocket and AHS said it was my fault because I had to get another plumber. They could send competent people.

    Recently, the microwave door malfunctioned. It wouldn’t latch. Also, the top trim piece of the microwave wouldn't stay on and that was causing the microwave to not be able to function properly. It wouldn't latch right because those pieces have been worn out over time. The contractor was able to get that taken care of.     There were contractors taking the contract and not showing up. AHS wasn't following up as much as I would have liked, but the overall experience was fine.     I've only called about one thing and that was the water heater. I called American Home Shield Thursday evening. Andy from Andy's Plumbing called me the next morning at 8 o'clock and was here by 9:00. It's great service because I did not expect to hear from AHS. It was so late in the day when I called. And there he was at 8 o'clock in the morning calling me. He's a sweetheart. He's probably the nicest plumber I've ever met in my whole life. He's a good plumber.

    Three people told me that my water heater was going out and I had to get it replaced. Andy said, “I don't think so. I think you just need to flush it.” So, he brought all of his equipment out and flushed it. And I didn't have to get a new water heater. Because, ecologically speaking, I would rather not get a new water heater. And other people gave me these huge estimates to replace it. Andy said, “Who told you that? That's crazy.” He's an honest guy. He enjoys working with AHS. It worked out really well. I would use him for anything I had in the house after this. I've already recommended him to other people.

    I had a tank that was leaking and I called American Home Shield and they scheduled the service. It took a while for someone to come. I called the contractor and they were a week out. It wound up being the same people a week later. If you call and schedule someone to come out, and if you feel that's too far, to change and try to go through the process of having someone else come out, maybe you can get a quicker time if AHS lets the client know that it's a process of 72 hours before we can even go forward and applying to see if someone else can come out. I kept getting the runaround saying to call back tomorrow and I didn’t understand that. They said they were looking, which I didn't believe. 72 hours had to have passed before they called back to Jefferson Plumbing for me for that time.

    I called American Home Shield. I paid my deductible and they told me who would come out. The contractor unclogged the drain in the bathroom downstairs. They are outstanding, very nice, and professional. If I have any other drain problems when I call, that is who I'm going to request. However, AHS wants a $100 deductible no matter what. I don't know how long I'm gonna stay with them because of that. For instance, if they pay the plumbers $200, I'm already paying half of it plus my payment every month. What kind of insurance is that? Also, my payment went up from $44 up to almost $70 without any notification. That to me isn't a very good marketing strategy and to keep customers. What I'm paying to AHS, the way they do things, I'll have to look at some other companies. Other than that, I've been satisfied.

    We used American Home Shield when a piece in our refrigerator snapped. Techs came out and fixed it. It took a couple of weeks to get everything done. In the past, it was nice because the company would reach out to us right away. But it seems in the past year, I would get an email saying, "This person is coming out there," but I don't hear from them. I end up reaching out and asking for updates. American Home Shield is not as good as it used to be.     I have a front-loading washer and it was leaking. A tech came and replaced the seal on the front where you open up the door and there's a rubber seal. He did great. That aside, I'm not very happy right now with American Home Shield because I called in my air conditioning and I haven't heard one thing. My AC went out last night so I put a claim online. I got the notice last night saying, “This is the company that will either call you within a day or you can call them.” I called them this morning and I was on hold for two hours. Finally, I got through and the rep goes, “We'll call you to schedule between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00, 12:00 and 1:00, or 5:00 and 6:00.”

    I called American Home Shield and told them I live in Texas and it's 95 degrees so I need a different company - one that I can actually get a hold of. They said, “We have to give them a day and then we'll give you a new company tomorrow.” I told them o give me one today and they wouldn't do it. I'm now I'm waiting to schedule for the assigned company to come out and it's Good Friday. I'm screwed. I'm gonna be without air conditioning and it’s hotter than hell. I'm just so cranky right now. The other thing with American Home Shield is it would be super nice if the people who answered the phones could speak English. That would be great. Today, I could barely understand the girl I was talking to.

    I've had other home warranties and American Home Shield is better than others. I had a broken refrigerator when I first bought my house in 2019. The freezer wasn't working and they said they were going to send someone out. I said, “No, you're not. I've been without a freezer for three weeks. I feel like I'm camping.” Techs got a part and it didn't work. They wanted to try another part. But I was done. This was in September. In the end, I got a new refrigerator then sent in the receipt to American Home Shield. They gave me $2,300 for the new refrigerator and it was perfect.

    The service itself is good. I like the process 'cause it's online. At my last house, last month, they had a contractor come out and replace the blown fuse from the AC. However, I've got to call them and get it straightened out why I was billed twice this month. The first time, it said online that the payment was due so I paid it. Then they took it out of my account. It’s the second time I had paid twice. It was kind of my fault, but it didn't tell me that it was being paid online through my automatic account.

    The guy from Hopwood Electric came in and in less than three minutes, the repair was done. It was something minor. It started outside with something that we plugged in and it cut off and then cut back on. The next day, they noticed that the light outside wasn't working as well as the outlet. The light in the dining room and the front porch weren't working, and the refrigerator we had in the garage quit. It all revolved around that one little outlet where the refrigerator was plugged in. It was faulty and had wire that was loose on it. So he came in there and said that he might be able to tighten it up. Then, it came loose again. So, he redid the outlet and everything worked. American Home Shield was nice and fast, and the guy was friendly.

    I'm very happy with American Home Shield. Our water heater decided to die, and I was very pleased with the claims process. It was minimal. We were without hot water for two days, which could have been a lot worse. They tried to do it as quickly as they possibly could, and they did a good job. Top Notch Plumbing was wonderful. The entire electrical system was fried when they came out to look. So, there was nothing to be done. The first gentleman that came out was very knowledgeable. Then the other gentleman that came to replace the water heater was also very professional and very quick. We're very pleased.

    We did pay out of pocket for two items that we were told were not covered by the warranty. When we had our home inspection when we bought the house, those items should have already been there, but they weren't. So, it was kind of a blessing that the unit died so that we could add those two items. It was an expansion tank that it didn't have, and it also did not have a metal tray to catch the water underneath. Having the warranty is great. It gives us peace of mind. So, we definitely will continue to have them.

    I get up to go to the gym for 4:00am, and I have a roommate who's disabled. I always check on him before I leave, and he said, "I have bad news." I said, "What's that?" He said, "The AC is not coming on." I go, "I'll just call American Home Shield." I don't think people realize how easy it is to file a claim. The process is literally walking from getting my gym bag to giving my dog a treat to out the door. Once they have your phone number, you verify it. They recognize your contract on the phone.

    You can set up the claim service in two minutes, and it's straightforward. Follow the prompts, tell them what you need serviced, and they verify the coverage, email you the confirmation, as well as the confirmation on the contractor who was assigned to you, then you're done. It was just 3:00 in the morning, and I got it all set up before I got to my car. I then heard a bing on my phone and I have the confirmation email with the phone number to Grace Air. My roommate works a small job and he was gone. I decided to call Grace Air when they open. They called me right back and said it would be no problem.

    The people that contract with American Home Shield, the two that I've had out here, are the most professional. They understand that people work. In the past, you used to have to wait for a repair service. Apparently, you catch on to how much money you can make as an AC repair service, and if you can get a steady clientele through American Home Shield, they come out same day. They were here for 11:00, and they gave me a 30 minutes heads-up that the tech was on his way. I'm a math teacher, and I can have someone watch my classroom. It fell into my conference period. When I got home, I was able to tidy up from the dogs and corral them in a room. The tech fixed our AC, and it was just nothing. It was easy and amazing.

    There was a problem with the breaker and I said, "Thank God," because I know nothing about electricity, so I don't touch. The tech took the unit apart, looked it over, and said everything else was fine. The AC unit kicked on, and he checked the air temperature coming out of the vent. He said, "Your Freon's good. Everything on the unit looks good. In fact, it runs better." He did not just say, "Oh, it was this," and then stopped. He let me know he gave the unit a looking over and he was out of here in 25 minutes. Amazing young man.

    Teaching is a steady, fixed income where money doesn't go up or down, so you make your budget. You get paid once a month. Any surprise, and that ruins your budget. That means you're dipping into money that you saved up or you're putting it on a credit card. Having American Home Shield means I know I pay the service fee and the monthly fee. The monthly fee is a definite and the service fee is so low, I can handle the service fee. I can't handle an $800 repair a month without rearranging finances. It gives me the peace of mind. I don't have parents to say, "Can you lend me 500?" I don't know how I would afford my house without the warranty. It was different when I had someone to fall back on, and it's much different now that I'm by myself standing alone.

    When the contractor came out to do a free checkup, the tech discovered something needs to be replaced. So he called a work order in that same day near closing. He couldn't leave a receipt but he did change it out. American Home Shield gave him a work order number, so I just got to call them to get the receipt. But overall, American Home Shield is good. When something goes wrong, you can just call them and pay the deductible and get it repaired.

    We found some water leaking in the house. We submitted a service request with American Home Shield. Thomas Plumbing came out and looked at the house. American Home Shield let me know that my plan didn't cover access to fix the leak. I paid Thomas Plumbing for that work. I paid them to cut into the drywall, cut into the brick, and several different areas that they had to cut in order for that access. They did the repair. That was great. I had a great experience with Thomas Plumbing.

    I reached out to American Home Shield again, because they told me that another technician/ contractor would be sent out to repair the drywall and the brick. They sent out another contractor. That contractor came out quickly also and did a couple of repairs in the drywall, but just half of the repairs. So, there are still holes in the drywall that haven't been repaired. Also, the drywall that the technician repaired, he didn't add any texture. It looks bad and it doesn't really blend in at all. Also, only half of the work has been repaired. I reached out to them multiple times and they just said to contact American Home Shield.

    I've contacted American Home Shield multiple times aecause it's already been over two weeks and they're still just those holes in the house. I'm trying to get information on why the technician didn't finish all the repairs. Also on my portal, it already shows that the service request is closed. It showed that before anyone even came out to do the repairs.

    Initially, the experience seemed to be good. As soon as I submitted the request, I have the technician from Thomas Plumbing. I called them that same day and scheduled an appointment with them for the next day. Even with the technician to come fix the drywall, I was able to schedule an appointment with them the next day. But that's been with me initiating all the phone calls. No one has been contacting me for each step in the process, which I don’t know if that’s how it’s supposed to be. It was quick. But then after it got done, I haven't been able to talk to anyone. I called and I talked to someone, and they were like, “We'll get back to you.” But nobody got back to me about it. At this point, the experience hasn't been good anymore.

    Our heat pump wouldn't work and our diesel furnace wasn't working right. The contractor found the part and fixed everything the way they were supposed to. Another claim we have with AHS is on our well pump. It was working last year and when we turned it on this year, it wasn't working. It was leaking. It was shut off during the wintertime so, I don't know if the freeze had done something to it. American Home Shield doesn't have anybody to work on it so, they wanted us to find someone. We can't find anyone either.

    When my dryer stopped heating, American Home Shield was very accommodating. It took them a day to respond to me and give me the contractor's name. Within a day after that, the contractor from Sears Fairfield called to schedule an appointment. The repairman took about 30 minutes to look at the dryer. He told us what was wrong with it and that he needed to order parts. He scheduled another appointment and ordered parts for us. About two weeks after that, somebody else came back and installed the parts that we received.

    I was not happy in the beginning because we bought the house, we moved in, and AHS said they would send a letter outlining the service and all that I would get for the first year. But when we were moving in, we had a problem with the washer and I didn't have any information or anything. I had to call a plumber and pay $500, which I was not happy about. Then when I got the letter from them, I asked if they were going to cover it and they said no because I didn't call. It had to be their providers but I didn't know who their providers were because I hadn't gotten my information yet. That kind of sucked.     Our garage door slammed shut and the spring broke and within 24 hours of submitting the claim, the contractor that AHS had assigned to it called me. They replaced the springs, which I had to cover the cost for. Then, it turned out that the gears were stripped on the controller, so he said I'll have to use an older controller. They couldn't replace the parts on it anymore, it's obsolete and he said they have to be replaced. He submitted that back to AHS and it took a week. I didn't hear anything and they had to resubmit and approve that. But it wasn't bad.

    The handle on the sink was leaking when you open it and the pipe was not draining. The water was coming out of the wall. The washing machine never finished the cycle because it was always dripping with water. I filed a claim and the contractor was gonna come a day after I asked it, but no one could be at home at that time. When they got in, I explained where the problem was. They went and got some tools and fixed it quickly. AHS is super easy. Other warranties would tell you, “This is gonna be your deductible,” but at the end, they come with something else. With American Home Shield, it’s not like that.

    I've had good luck with American Home Shield. I emailed AHS the first time. My dryer kicked the breaker when it was ran. And when it kept happening, and I emailed AHS back and they said, “Well, is it the same thing? Or we're gonna have to charge you again?” I said, “No, it's the same thing. It’s still happening.” And the contractor came back out. The guy said, “Okay, I think it's in the breaker,” and referred it to an electrician. The contractor came out and went through the dryer, but it kept going. So, they came out and replaced the breaker for it. And that seems to have fixed it. They were courteous, went in, did what they needed to do, and left. It costs a lot less to have somebody come out and do it for under warranty work than it does when I had to have somebody out to work on the dryer, but it still wasn’t fixed, so I had to call an electrician.

    Our dishwasher wasn't drying properly. We called American Home Shield for the technician to come and fix it. They sent a text and said, “If you want to schedule, then send a text,” and I did, said the dates that I was available. They replied really quickly to send me a date when the technician could come. The tech was really fast. He called me and asked me what symptoms the dishwasher had. He said, “Okay, I know what it is. I need to order a part.” He asked me what brand it was. After the part came in, they let me know and then over text, I scheduled for the technician to come out and fix it. So, it saved time the fact that he didn't have to come out. When he came, he fixed it. He was really personable, explained what the problem was, and it's working fine now. I've been very satisfied with AHS.

    The service and the timeliness are great. I had a claim for a washing machine and the process went great. It was very smooth. The tech stayed as long as possible to try to work and fix it. He was very detailed in describing everything. It was good, timely, and professional. AHS definitely helps with repairs and everything with our deductible. It also saves money.

    The tech got back to me within a couple of hours of me submitting the request and he did great. He explained our issue. He had to go get a part and come back but all was well. One of the circuit boards of our unit needed to be replaced. It was a good service call and it got everything working. I'm satisfied with AHS.

    Our microwave died. We submitted the claim and within five hours, we had a phone call from the Appliance Pros telling us that they would come out. I was shocked. The contractor was really good. They communicated very well with us and were on time. And the gentlemen that came were very professional. They had to come out and see what was going on. Even though we knew it was dead, they had to assess the situation. And once they assessed that it was dead, they would submit something back to the American Home Shield and let them know that there was no way to fix it. We needed a new appliance.

    That process took a while because the microwaves were on backorder. So, we didn't have a microwave for three months. That was because it was a built in. That was no one's fault, that was just production. They tried to put it in before we even got the appliance. They got notification we were supposed to receive it sooner, and I had to cancel the date with them. We changed the date. They couldn't get me in on Monday, they said they would come Tuesday. All of a sudden, the tech called me Monday, around 10 o'clock when it happened, and said, "Is there any way we can come out today? We had a cancellation." I said that would be wonderful. The guys came out and took care of it. It took them 30 minutes. And they cleaned up after themselves, which is shocking, because most gentlemen don't do that. They took the trash and left. It was a good experience.
