I called AHS and then the contractor came out to fix my dryer.
Reviewed May 18, 2022
I had a claim for my garage door and that was good. The techs got it fixed in only about 30 minutes. Another claim I had was for my AC that went out and needed to be replaced. Home Shield said that they have to put in a new one but I would still need to pay 3,000 something dollars. What was the purpose of me paying for 20 years and I still have to pay that much money? Even if I took the unit that they're giving me, it's only a three-month warranty on the unit that they are providing. If I didn't get that unit, Home Shield would only pay the company that did the inspection $1,800.
I'm starting to think that having the home warranty is not a benefit. Right now, my wife and I are thinking twice about letting Home Shield go. We pay them the fee every month and when techs come out, we have to pay a service call. There's really no benefit. If I was to save that $80 a month, I should have enough to pay for repair by the time something happens. When I call, Home Shield does get somebody out right away. But if someone asks me if they should get one, I would not recommend it unless they have a lot of old appliances.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

There was an error message in the thermostat, which generally indicates that there's a stoppage in the drain line to the air conditioner down into the second-floor bathroom sink. I initially filed a claim on the internet but I was unable to express the precise nature of the problem and the provider wasn't able to do anything. I had to follow up through a phone call in order to get the appropriate allocation for the repair. The contractor came out and they were able to diagnose the issue. But the difficulty was in the diagnosis itself.
The diagnosis suggested that it was something that we in the house have done. But since we don't go up in the attic, it's not possible that we had done it. The net result is that I’m out of pocket for $4,000 in order to get the issue replaced. There's a plastic connector that connects the perfectly serviceable heat exchange coils to the drain line and that little connection point costs about 35 cents. But it cannot be replaced and I ended up having to buy an entirely new set of coils. It would have been nice to be able to appeal the decision and express that the only people that could have caused the damage, which we were supposedly responsible for, could have come from people that were employed by American Home Shield. Those are the only people that have been up in the attic working on the air conditioning unit.

We came home and water was running out of our garage. It turned out to be a rather simple problem in that there was a crack in a pipe. We live 40 miles out and the technician went in, bought parts, brought them back and didn't complain. He put them in and showed my husband, in case it ever happened again, how to fix it temporarily so we didn't have that much water until he could get back out.
We also had recently an air conditioner that had a part that needed to be replaced. That went well. I like the promptness of American Home Shield and the ability of the providers. The people providing the service are very knowledgeable in what they are doing. The only problem we've ever had with anybody from American Home Shield is the appliance person. He had replaced the dishwasher, the washing machine, the dryer, the microwave, but he'd call and say he was coming in but wouldn't show up. We were sitting there, waiting, then he'd call and say he was coming the next day. Two or three days later, we'd call him and he'd say he just got the part. I will cancel my contract before I have him at my house again.

Filing a claim to AHS is pretty convenient. It's worked out pretty well so far. Our sump pump was making a bunch of noise and wasn't pumping properly. The contractor was responsive and quick. They were out within 48 hours. The techs performed the work quickly and they were courteous. They replaced the sump pump.

I put in a claim to American Home Shield about the pool motor that was broken. The tech was very good. He came out, had a look at it, and saw that the ball bearing was broken. He fixed the pump and he left. It took less than half an hour. Everything has been working since then. As far as AHS, the times I've used it, they've given very quick responses, and the people who have come have mostly been able to fix the issues there and then.

American Home Shield didn't cover as much as I wanted them to on some Freon. The repairman told me it’s just the contract that they have with them. He had to add Freon. And he also put in a dye. Because he said the system is leaking, but I would probably need to get them to come back out sometime in the fall to see if it's not cooling very good. So far, so good.

They came to fix my refrigerator and the guy changed something. It was working for a second but it cut off. So, they sent two parts. But the parts have been here and the techs keep not showing up. They won't put it in. And we've been without a refrigerator for quite a while. Other than that, AHS has been pretty good with the other stuff. AHS should check with customers to make sure the job is finished when the contractor says it's finished.

I had a constant leaky faucet. The first group of service people American Home Shield gave me couldn't come out for a long period of time. I called them and told them that my bill was constantly going up and the faucet was running. It was no longer a leak or drip, it was a stream. American Home Shield got right on it and sent somebody out. The person they called the same day came out and asked a couple of questions. He came out prepared to do the job and told me what he was doing before he did it and got my approval on it. The techs fixed up the issue really nicely. He did the job and was friendly doing it. I've been a happy camper ever since because my bill has gone down tremendously by at least 50%. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. I've been with them for years and I was most impressed with the person that came out and did the job. That's the person that I would give triple-A to.

There was one guy who got a little funny with me because he thought I should accept one of the dishwashers they had available. I told him I wanted a certain one and I said, "Why would I pay money for one if I can get one for free?" He's like, "Well, I would. I would just go and get me another one." Other than that guy with the attitude, AHS was okay. I've called to get my refrigerator and my stove repaired. I'm still waiting on a dishwasher, but I want a specific one and it's not in stock.

Back in December 2020, my furnace went out. It took American Home Shield three weeks to get it to heat. Finally, it was because the lady I talked to noticed that I had 30-degree weather. Nobody called, nobody came, they didn't send anybody. I called somebody on my own, and they ended up not paying for those people. They sent somebody from another county who were three teenagers. They looked at the furnace and said what I told them the other man said. They didn't even take it apart and look at it. That wasn't professional. They just said, “Oh, yes, it’s old. It needs to be replaced.” “Okay.” So, they gave me $1,500 for a furnace. That is not what a furnace costs. That is way less.
January, the electric water heater went out. I had a young college student living in my guest house temporarily. Because of COVID, he couldn't go back to in-person class. He lived there from January to June, and he moved back to LA. The water heater went out. I could not leave him there with no hot water, and I wouldn’t call and wait three weeks again. So, I paid for my own water heater without even calling.
It was March 3rd I called and said I had a problem with my ceiling fan in my dining area. I didn’t know if it was the switch or the fan. And AHS said I could have up to six electrical things fixed when I made a call. So, I listed some of these items, one of which was my garage door, which had to be a separate claim. But they sent me a garage door person from another county that also took a long time to get here, when I couldn't get my car in and out of the garage because I don't have a walkthrough door, I only have big doors. So, I had to leave it disconnected all the time. And my son was afraid somebody could be hiding in there when I came home. He really hated it that I had my garage door disconnected. And it took a long time.
AHS got me somebody who doesn’t work this area, but he came and replaced my garage door opener. That turned out okay. But the problem was the people do not speak English. They do not understand what I'm saying to them. How do I get somebody that speaks English that I can understand them? And when they don't send me an electrician, they do not understanding me. They gave me the phone number of an electrician, and I called him. He didn't want anything to do with AHS. He was far away. He wasn't even local. I paid for my own ceiling fan to be fixed, and the other two items that needed repair because they never sent me an electrician.
A few years ago, AHS fixed both of my wells and I was very pleased. But something has changed. The main issue is they made people in this county unhappy by the way they pay them. They would agree on a price for an item, and the contractors would told me they changed it after the fact, and don’t pay them what they agreed on. So, they don't want to deal with AHS. That was the issue with our garage door company, for sure.
I had another problem. I live in a rural area, and I have a septic tank. And the policy says that if it’s full, AHS will pump it. AHS sent a plumber, not the septic people, who didn’t charge very much. They charge less than a plumber. They sent this plumber from another county here, who ran a snake down. He didn’t open the thing to the septic tank, he ran the snake down. And there’s a bit of grass on the snake when it came out. He said, “We can’t do anything about that.” I called the septic people, and paid them after paying 125 for this guy who did nothing.
The septic people came out and said the tank needed pumping. I found out afterwards, my granddaughter did five loads of laundry, “No, your septic tank is supposed to do two.” A septic tank goes through a process so they don't disturb the top. They have a pipe that goes down to the bottom of the tank. It was down 18 inches below the sludge, and that fell off. And this guy they sent out didn't even know that. It would have been covered because they cover pumping. So, I had to pay for all that.
I do not call AHS often. They haven’t talked to me last year. Just this year and 2020. I’m thinking of discontinuing it. My daughter said, “Mom, put your monthly payment in the bank and then have the money to pay for whatever you need.” That makes sense. If I needed a new kitchen faucet, I don’t know what to do. I don’t know whether 125 to call AHS and wait forever, or call somebody else and put that money towards a plumber.

I was fine with the contractor. They were great. The only thing that took long was getting my parts from American Home Shield. They ordered them. But what happened was the way they ordered it, we didn't know another part was inside one of the boxes. And once we finally found that out, because we weren't getting any feedback from AHS, we told Sugar City what boxes came in and what the numbers were. They were looking for all the parts. They were waiting for three parts. And that will be two parts within one box. And according to the number we gave them, it still showed one part was still coming. But once AHS and Sugar City got together, because they had been calling, and I called, they finally figured out that one piece was actually inside of the box. That washer ended up not working. I couldn't believe it was rusting already underneath. AHS ended up replacing it because it couldn’t be repaired. It would be way too costly.

I was happy with American Home Shield until I had this last episode with my air conditioner. I didn't know the protocol, first of all. They didn't explain everything upfront. It took me a month to get the issue fixed. I called them a couple of times, and they told me it was ordered. Then I found out that it hadn’t been ordered. Then they said that I had to choose whether I wanted the payoff or I wanted to have it fixed. My sister had went through that, so I knew to tell them that I wanted it fixed. But they kept saying that it was a mix-up with the payoff and receiving, and what I wanted to take it out, what they were offering me in the payoff and having it fixed. They didn't pay us anything as much as I thought that they were gonna pay on their part of it.
On the 28th of March, I called to have my air conditioner serviced. When they came out, and technician got up there. I don't know what he did but then the unit was no longer working. They did my daughter like that when she called out for a service call. When they got out there, they found something wrong with her air conditioner. They said it was a blade. AHS was thinking that that company may have been doing something. There was another guy from AHS and all of a sudden, they were very upset. They no longer dealt with that one particular company. They started sending out these other people to finish it up. But we didn't get it fixed. It's just been fixed no more than two weeks ago.
I've been contemplating on looking at something with someone else. I used to never have any problems with American Home Shield. But now they seem to be slagging and they're not like what they used to be. Here in Bakersfield, we reach up to 100 and sometimes 110 in the summertime. I've experienced that last year when my air went out. That was an emergency but I had to sit in this heat for three or four days. When it gets that hot, they tell people to go to cooling areas. But I’m disabled and I kept telling American Home Shield that. I cannot go and sit anywhere. I'm also wondering why do we keep getting all these foreigners that can hardly speak English when we call them for help.

The dishwasher wouldn't work and the tech came out. He said he was going to replace the electronic panel. It still didn’t work so we replaced another panel and that didn’t work. So, we replaced the last panel and finally got it to work. But it took three months, altogether, waiting for the parts. The tech was trying to do his job, troubleshooting what he could. It was great. Everyone’s short on parts, so I understood. And it was my dishwasher. If it was my washer and dryer, I would have been a lot more upset. If it would have been something I need to use every day, that would not have been acceptable.

The icebox wasn’t working right. I spoke to a live representative who got the job done, so everything was fine. The technician knew what he was doing. He understood the process. He had to order a part and that took 10 days. By the time he got the little thing in, it wouldn't close. And it was because there was a bent hinge. He was able to figure that out and fix it.

I’m very satisfied with AHS. With them, I like being able to call, and then within a day, they've already contacted the local people and they're coming out to check out whatever. So far, they’ve been very professional in getting things done in a timely manner. Fleshers Refrigeration was good. They showed up on time for my recent claim. They did what they needed to do. They were professional. My oven stopped working and they troubleshot the item down. They thought it was one piece but it wasn't. So there was no charge there. It came out cheaper than what they quoted originally.

For my recent claims with AHS, the oven was not heating up properly. Also, for the refrigerator, when you open up the door, it would open all the way instead of stopping. I spoke with the representatives of AHS and they were both helpful and professional. They supplied me with the contractor’s name and phone number and the work order number. The techs were very professional and knew exactly what needed to be done when they came out. The tech detected what the problem was and ordered the part and repaired the oven. Each and every time I've used AHS, it's been a really good experience. I've had them for a couple of years now. I have two properties that I use them on. Some of AHS's reps ask too many questions and it looks like they have to research too much. Others are quickly aware of where to go and what needs to be done. But, the contractors have all been good. It's worth it to get AHS though the $100 each visit is a little bit stiff. Other than that, AHS is responsive and they help take care of what needs to be taken care of. When the plumber came, the leak we had stopped so he couldn't figure out where it was coming from. A few days later, it started leaking again and I took a video. I called and asked AHS to send the plumber back again. But I've never heard back from anyone.

Contrary to the popular reviews posted for AHS - when it comes to customer service, AHS delivers an absolutely horrifying experience. Our furnace broke down in the middle of winter and was only addressed after multiple repeated followups, leaving us without heat for multiple days in Michigan January. It stopped working again in spring, and this time 1. it took us multiple followups over phone and chat to get AHS to send someone over. 2. Their tech came 6 days after the appliance broke down. 3. The tech ended up disturbing the device further leaving us with a furnace that kept running non stop so we had to cut power to HVAC.
4. Despite multiple followups with AHS over phone and chat they have not sent anyone over (it's 8 days since the appliance went down) nor do they respond to calls or chat requests anymore. It is really hard to comprehend how AHS are getting all these positive reviews when in our experience (and based on what we have heard from others) AHS delivers the most disappointing experience. I can only imagine that the positive reviews are fake.

When you're on the phone you get the runaround and the biggest problem is you get bad contractors. American Home Shield is nonresponsive and send subpar contractors and are dishonest. I was trying to get my toilet replaced and was recommended for a toilet replacement by the contractor, but in the end, Home Shield had me buy my own toilet and didn't reimburse me. Another instance was one time they fixed my washer and it flooded my house.

We have pool coverage as part of our plan which our serviceable items specifically list pool equipment, pool plumbing and pool electrical. We did a service request and paid the $75 service fee for pool equipment because we thought that was the issue. DJs Pool Service came out and found out the issue is from a pool light which should be covered under pool electrical. The same contractor said he could fix it and submitted a repair request to AHS. I tried calling AHS on 5/16/2022 to ask if it was approved and the first lady I spoke to said the only way she could add it to the request was by submitting a new request but she would refund the $75. I asked her to wait so I could confirm with the contractor that the electrical was the problem as he had spoke to my husband.
After he did and I called back the next day, now I'm being told I need to pay a separate $75 service fee and it would not be refunded to add pool electrical. This makes no sense since it is the same contractor who has already been out. Also, when I initially did the service request I could've selected pool electrical along with pool equipment but we did not think that was the problem. We should not have to pay a separate fee for the same issue.

We moved into our current house Mar 26 2021. Our home warranty was with American Home Shield, phone number: 888-682-1043. Website is www.ahs.com. Headquarters address is: 889 Ridge Lake Blvd, Memphis, TN 38120. For that year, it was fine overall and we didn't have any big issues with them. They were definitely more helpful than not.
However, our year contract expired on Mar 26 2022 and we didn't renew right away as we were looking at our options. Then about a month ago, around mid April, our freezer connected to our fridge started to go bad. We were trying to figure out the remedies for repairing it and calling the manufacturer, etc. But then about 2 weeks later, the fridge started going bad too. At that point, I called American Home Shield to renew our warranty and get help. I found out that since it was still within a 46 day period (or some such time period), that when we renewed it, we would actually have to pay for April, even though it was now May and we didn't have an actual contract with them in April. So basically to get service in May, we would have to pay a "back bill" of the month before. I asked how to avoid that and was told if I waited about 10 days, I would be out of that time period and could get a new contract with a fresh starting date of about mid May.
Unfortunately, a few days later was when the fridge started to go bad, which greatly worried me as I have a baby and his formula was starting to go bad. I called and renewed our warranty only 7 days before we could have avoided paying this ridiculous, arbitrary "back bill" of the month of April. The vendor (Gulf Appliance Repair, Inc) actually so kindly came to my house that night but told me the LG fridge has been an issue for people lately. The compressor was broken and he said it basically can be risky to repair it as it can be a touchy subject with the other fridge components but that he would have to put it in for that, even though he thinks a brand new fridge is best. He also told me I could ask for a cash out and get the money for the parts and labor and buy a new fridge ourselves. This was on Friday, May 6.
I then called American Home Shield on Monday, May 9 to get an update and was told the vendor hadn't sent in his diagnostic form yet. They called the company and told me they would have it in by the end of the night. I called back on Wed, May 11 to get an update, they called the vendor and found out they still hadn't sent it in. I asked to speak to a supervisor but was told they have to put in a request for them to call me back, and that there are not just available.
Same thing Thursday, May 12. I asked to please escalate this and do something about it as I have a baby, can't get any food in the house and had to go out and buy a mini fridge for his formula and snacks. And we are eating out lunches and dinners which is expensive and not healthy. The representative told me she would check it herself and make sure it happened. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and she told me she would have one call me.
I called Friday, and still no diagnostic report turned in. I asked to spead to a supervisor and was told the lady before never did put my request in but that he was now and someone would call me within 24 hours. No call 24 hours later so I called again but now I was told it's within 24-48 hours that the supervisors call. I didn't call Sunday, May 15 as I figured it was a lost cause.
I called Monday, May 16 and found out the report and finally been sent in and the parts were on order. I then told the representative that I had been very clear in my first couple of calls that I wanted the option to cash out before any parts were ordered and that obviously this information was pretty upsetting and startling. She looked through their notes and told me no one had noted that and regardless, the vendor would have to be contacted by me so that he would send in a report that I can cash out. This didn't make a lot of sense to me, so I called the vendor and found out they never send in authorization for cash outs as it's the warranty company's authority to approve or disapprove such requests, they have nothing to do with that.
By this time, I was basically crying and so upset with the run around, wrong communications and directions that I was getting that I didn't even know what to do with myself. I called the warranty company again and asked if I could just cancel my contract with them and get my money back. They said I won't get any money back. So I asked for a supervisor to call me. They said the request was still in from Friday and someone would call. So that night, at 8:19pm they called. But I missed the call as I was putting my baby to bed. I was surprised it was so late as I had asked for the call to be in the afternoon. I called back and was told that they normally call again about 30 mins later. This didn't happen. They never called back at all.
So this morning I had to call again and was told I had to put a NEW request in to speak with a supervisor, which I did. I have been waiting hours and nothing. So I called just now to plead to speak with a supervisor and was on the phone for 20 mins. The rep said she can't get a supervisor on the phone and that they said to tell me that the supervisor assigned to my ticket will call me. This means there WERE supervisors she actually spoke to but they wouldn't get on the phone to help handle a very irate, sad, upset, disgruntled customer. This is really, really bad customer service and I see why they have a one star review on Google.
I would like to have a new fridge instead of the current one just being repaired as the repairman was pretty clear that they can get broken again and again at this stage and that it's better to just get a new one. If this is denied, and it's the parts and repair still, I would like to know what my option to cash out is. If this is denied, I would like my fridge repaired ASAP and compensated for the $100 mini fridge we had to buy, the food that went bad in the fridge with this taking so long (at least $100), and the dinners out we have had to have for the last 2 weeks (at least $250). Thank you for listening and for any help you may be able to give me.

They sent me money to replace my dryer and my stove. My only concern is when I signed up for the policy, I was told one thing and then when I called for service regarding my air conditioner maintenance, I was told something else. The gentleman told me, "Under your contract, if anything is needed, you would have to pay out of pocket for it.” I said, "Wait a minute. My coverage states that all of that is covered.” And he said, "Not the policy you have". I don't have the contract, which I was supposed to be receiving by mail. I got very frustrated with that because to be told one thing and then be told something else when you call for service is not good business.

Generally, American Home Shield is okay, but the communication, the responsiveness and quality of the contractors vary. Some are very good to excellent, and some are fair to less than qualified. The online process of filing a claim can be difficult, too. I put in a claim for an item and did not realize the components of that item was not covered and so I paid for the service fee. They would never fund it. The contractor came out and said, “No, it isn’t covered under your policy.” Also, it takes a long time to get through an agent. The reps on the phone sometimes are terrific and helpful, and sometimes they talk around in circles and don't know what they're doing.
The quality of American Home Shield has gone down over the years. If a customer wants to bring the same contractor back for another service that's related, they should be able to request that. I was told I could not. Then I had one claim where a contractor was awful, late, and not respectful to me. I asked for a different contractor to finish the job but American Home Shield said, “No, you can't do that. It’s these people or nobody.”

Sevier Climate Control came out and did a great job. I have one claim going on and an appliance company is looking at my refrigerator and my washer. But I haven't had a great experience with that company. I've been kind of going round and round since the 21st of April. American Home Shield had a guy come out and he didn't seem very knowledgeable. He came out like he was in a rush and didn’t diagnose the problem. He was just taking a good guess at it and if that was not the case, then he’d come back the following week. I'm being inconvenienced a lot because I'm waiting a week in between each one of these little guesses. That company should do some kind of follow up. When they leave, I can't call. They don't answer the phone.
I reached out to American Home Shield two or three times. They’d send him an email then they'd get on the phone and say they 're working on it. American Home Shield would come back to me and say the contractor said they were working on it and that they were gonna be back out. They’d come back out and it's the same thing. I'm in the dark the whole time. Instead of them taking care of the problem and making sure I am good, I find myself on the phone every day trying to call the appliance company. When I talk to anybody, ain’t anybody seem concerned about it. Everybody is reading off a script telling me they'd get back to me. They don’t understand that I don't have a refrigerator or a washer. I'm hoping when the guy comes out Thursday that he could fix something.
Another thing is nobody lets me talk to anybody where I could escalate it. I’ve been throwing American Home Shield's name around even before I signed up because I heard they were the best. I'm starting to feel different about that because I can't even talk to anybody.

I called Home Shield and I told them about my middle diverter from the bathtub and shower. They didn't tell me that they didn't fix that type of stuff. They sent somebody out. They said they would have to order the parts then come back out. I kept calling the company. They kept saying that the parts were not in and that Home Shield had to get in touch with me. Two months later, I called Home Shield and told them what happened. They reimbursed me my $75 because of the situation. But they still charged me $75 again for another company to come out to fix the same issue. That wasn't appreciated at all. If they had that in their records, they should have said, “They can't fix that part.” I also told the second company that I had a leak in the same area. They said because I had tile, they couldn't fix it.

American Home Shield irritates me from time to time. I threatened to throw them away, but we don't. And for situations like what we just had, which is our dishwasher went out, they would either come out and fix it or replace it. In this case, they fix it and fix it until they had to replace it. It's complicated. But those things are reasonably handled.
We had some problems with the air conditioner and we had the contractor come out. We had a problem with an electric circuit, a problem with our breaker box that we have in the garage that controlled the service in our bathrooms. And they came out and got that resolved. And I was very thankful for that because it was over my head. It was a 24-hour turnaround. It was certainly within my expectation. We've had so many other things. A lot of them are not covered by American Home Shield. But every experience I had with them are bad things that happened in my house and they have been able to get somebody out and take care of those issues. They're not perfect, but they do okay.

We like Cabot Mechanical. We've dealt with them a couple of times and they've done great work. They most recently came out because our air conditioner wasn't working. We had had a company come out before and worked on our furnace, and they apparently had loosened a wire. That was what the technician with Cabot had to repair. We're back to being cool in our house, so we're happy. American Home Shield is great. They keep our house running. We switched to them ‘cause we were hoping they would cover the ductwork that needed to be done. When we needed the work done, they covered some but not all. The first contractor that American Home Shield arranged for me was super awful. I even told them to cancel my policy. They sent a second contractor and the service was better. The first one was a joke. Two of the four burners on my stovetop were broken and the first person told me, “At least you still have two you can use. So you don’t need to fix the other two.” I was so frustrated. But after AHS sent a second technician from another company, the service was way better. They were nice, very helpful and willing to solve the problem.
The only thing is for the purchasing department, I had one customer service rep who was very rude. I tried to ask questions and for help, and the lady was so impatient and unwilling to help. But there were two customer service guys who were very amazing. If AHS can have most of the customer service be kind and patient to the customers, that will be very nice.

Hers and His Plumbing came out to do our plumbing request, and they fixed one of the toilets and did something to the other one. This claim is still in process though. When they noticed there was a bulge in the wall, we talked about that and the plumber said that that was a plumbing issue. They had to call in another company, SerClean, and when they inspected it, they found out that there was a leak from the bathtub. SerClean had to remove all the tub and the fiberglass walls, so I'm left with a big hole in the bathroom, waiting for the plumber. He has to repair the pipes that were busted behind the tub, and I was told he could not get back to my house for two more weeks. When he repairs those, then the contractor will come in and put in the new tub and the tile.
In the meantime, the plumber had to repair the faucet in the kitchen that was part of the plumbing issue, so he replaced that. I can tell Hers and His Plumbing is very good. The only problem was this guy was rather new, but now he's coming back out with the manager. They will be the ones to repair the bathroom pipes because there was an issue with the faucet. At another time, I had my oven that needed the pilots and the inside gas igniter repaired. That was a different company and they were very good as well. However, they had to order parts and it took over a month. The tech was also having a hard time really fixing the main part of the stove, so they ended up replacing the stove.
It takes a long time to get anything done through American Home Shield, but it probably does anyway. With the plumbing, all the companies are backed up, so I realized it's gonna take a long time for everything. Eventually, American Home Shield is doing a very good job and I'm very pleased with them. I pay my $100, and they send somebody out who knows what they're doing. On a different note, my friend, Patricia, referred me to American Home Shield, and I tried to go on, because I was told me we would get an Amazon card. For some reason though, we weren't able to do it. I would like to get my $25 Amazon card and have my friend get hers as well.

If you have a question, you can't get it answered online. I don't call in much, but I recently did a claim for a dryer and it was easy. It was a little disturbing though. American Home Shield sent an email out, and my payment was processed for the job, but the person they assigned to it didn't do that particular thing.
The claim was cancelled and AHS just cancelled my payment at the same time. They sent an email, but I was assuming that I was gonna get contacted by this company to get my dryer fixed. And this was supposed to have been expedited, which means that they had four hours to come out. We tried to call the guy but he wouldn't answer. We spent two days on the phone calling American Home Shield and all we did was speak to people in Ghana who just read scripts. They had absolutely no idea how important it was. I ended up having to pay $580 yesterday to get an HVAC guy to fix it.
I pay every six months for techs to come out. The HVAC guy who came yesterday from Climatemakers says techs never went in the attic that's part of the heat pump system. I was also a whole pound of Freon deficit. It was like I had never been serviced upstairs. There's no point in servicing downstairs if you don't service the upstairs unit so I'm pretty upset.
If we hadn't gotten Climatemakers to do the HVAC yesterday, my ceiling would have collapsed. At the moment, I have beams keeping the ceilings from falling down while it's trying to dry out. I have other insurance for that and didn't want to pay for it when I have insurance to cover it. The only thing was that they were so far away that, if I would have hired them to do any of the plumbing work through the initial inspection, they would charge more than someone locally here for the travel time. That would have been a been a hit that would have went towards American Home Shield.
I love the fact that American Home Shield is able to take care of all the small things that I have happening in the house. The only thing is when you have an immediate problem, it takes a little bit of time to get a contractor out to you to resolve the issue. If it's something that's causing more damage, you want to get that immediate attention. But once they're there, they do a good job. I've already suggested others to get American Home Shield. It's a strong homeowner's asset.

In the recent past, they've had better service vendors. We had a claim for the washer and the provider had to order a part and wait for it to come. It was a little stressful as it took a little long to get but not unreasonable. The tech was very professional and did the service very quickly. He was very friendly and helpful. He also did a little explanation as I like to know a little bit more. That was a nice experience.
Two years ago, there was someone who came out for something, and they were very lackadaisical and the work was kind of ho-hum. Other than that, since signing with AHS, I've been pretty happy and satisfied. Everything we've had trouble with, they've been able to send out qualified personnel. The warranty has saved us money. AHS is a good service except for A/C or Heater service. It will take several days to get someone to your house. This happens every time. I put in a service call on a Thursday and they can't come out until Tuesday. And no weekend service, so you have to wait through the weekend to get scheduled. This is unacceptable. And don't even try to call customer service since wait times can be hours.

We did a claim to American Home Shield for an AC repair. It was coming on, but it would go right off. The first guy that came was from Georgia Heating. He said it was a wire. So, he put wires back together, and he left. It came on, but I told my husband it seemed like it was colder than necessary even with the temperature. Then it went back out. So, we called American Home Shield back and they sent somebody else. He replaced the thermostat. He did a wire and something else, and then he said it was fine.
We just had that thing done when we had a leak in October. At first, they were like, "Well, maybe it's the air conditioner leaking from under the thing." It wasn't. Then, they thought it was something else, and it wasn't that either. It turned out to be a pipe in the wall. It's not leaking today, but they still haven't called me about coming out to look at it. AHS responded by email and said that it has been assigned. The person who was supposed to call should've called within 24 to 48 hours, and it's been over 24. Other than that, their customer service reps were very nice, very helpful and seemed to know what they were doing, so that was really good. They were very willing to accommodate, too.

The problem is still going on and American Home Shield told me they would not cover it. We had a little problem when our air conditioner went out and American Home Shield approved to get a new one and it took us almost a month to get it. It just seemed like we couldn't get ahold of the people who were going to put it in. It took forever. They just kept promising. Finally, we got it after about 20 calls to them. I wasn't happy with how much money I had to pay to have it put in. I had to pay $3,095 extra. I've had American Home Shield for many years and I don't have a problem with them. I just have a problem with who they send out and why I had to pay $3,000. They said it was for upgrades. They didn't upgrade anything. They just put in a new one and then I had to pay for it.
I called AHS about three times and told them I couldn't get those people to talk to me. This one lady from AHS that got on the phone said, "Well, they'll talk to me," and they did. All of a sudden, the dishwasher wouldn't talk to me. I pushed buttons and it wouldn't do anything. I called and spoke with one of the representatives with American Home Shield and they went on and they wrote up a ticket. A couple of days later, the gentleman came out and took a peek and said, "Oh, my. You got a burnt board in here." And he said, "Oh, this board here caused that board to go out." And that's basically what was going on. So, something shorted something else out within the unit. The contractors are legitimate folk. They come in with the attire. Like GE, they have their uniform on and the whole bit. So, whenever they come and provide a service, they seem to be legit people and knowledgeable.
However, I find AHS a lot less than a Fidelity home warranty. Those other folks seem to be very accommodating. Here, it's like pulling teeth whenever I'm trying to get a service done. And this is on a personal note because I have purchased that property there at Newtown, Connecticut. So, the seller, we had requested to have a home warranty, and they came up with this outfit, and we never used the AHS. It's not that great. I even hate calling them whenever I have a problem.
A lot of times, I'm on the phone for a minute or three and I would stay 20 minutes sometimes. And AHS would have someone that I have to listen really close to to understand what they were saying most of the time. What I do is I have to wait and talk with them and finally get somebody. And I would hear cows and chickens in the background. So, they're probably using people that's abroad. That part is a bit hazy with me. I would say something like, "Can I please get a follow-up email or something about what it is that I'm asking them to do? And please send me a receipt." And they could never seem to do that. So, that part of doing business with them sometimes is a bit rough because they take a credit card, and I have to pay them right away. And that's before I even get the service. So, they would collect money, and I don't get any type of acknowledgment or a receipt that I gave them money. I have to beg them every time.
The customer service part of trying to make you happy before they even tell you the pay is weird. It's almost like you drop off your car to a mechanic and the only thing he's doing is just telling you, "It's gonna cost you 1,200 bucks to fix the car and can you pay three-quarters of that amount now. And then, maybe you'll be happy with the car whenever I return it to you or maybe not." So, they should be more concerned about getting my product in a working position before they start pounding me about the money that they want to collect. I can pay, or they can say, "Hey, can I get a credit card on your file here? So that way, whenever the person goes out to represent us, the vendor come to you, then we'll charge you." But it seems like they charged me right away, and here, I would say, "Wait a minute, I don't have the services yet and you're charging my card already." That is what I don't like about that.
The last one was I had an issue recently that I called them up because it seemed like I had a problem with my water heater. But what happened was it was not the fault of the water heater. The scariest part was they said, "Well, we'll get back with you within 48 to 72 hours on your water heater." And I said, "Wait a minute. You mean to tell me I'm gonna have to take a cold shower for the next two days or three days?" "Well, we don't have anybody in Newtown, Connecticut that can help out with this." "Well, call a plumber. You know what? Forget it. Why don't you just cancel my request? I'm calling a plumber, and then I'll pay the plumber to fix my problem." That is what I ended up doing. But what happened was somebody was in there helping me with the shower and what he did was he removed the valve that was in there, so the water was being mixed. So, we corrected that by me getting a plumber in there.
But the thing that saddened me about AHS is that they had no solution to offer me. I would say, "I took a cold shower last night and I hope that we can have this resolved right away." "Oh, well, we'll get back with you. Somebody will reach out to you because we don't have anybody right now on hand." I said, "You don't know a plumber here? How can you not know a plumber like that?" They didn't know of anybody to call. And I said, "Well, how can you not know somebody to call? How about the person you sent out here to look at my furnace? They're called Water Air Solution." And the guy told me that they worked on boilers and did different things.
I called on my own because I know now this guy named Jose that works for that company. I called and said, "Hey, Jose. Do you guys happen to change water heaters and stuff?" He said, "Oh, absolutely. We could do that." I said, "These folks that sent you out before to come and look at my furnace said that they don't know of anybody that can come out and take care of that." He said, "You know what the problem is? Because it's not a boiler or something, we're not coming up. So, we're HVAC guys, but we can take care of that. But since they are not looking at us or classifying us as plumbers, they're not going to send us out because of that. But I'll ask the owner to reach out to them on your behalf because this is an emergency and we need to go ahead and get you up and running. 'Cause when you have a water heater situation or whatever, that's pretty important."
I just went on and had a plumber come out and he figured out what was going on with it. But the point is I shouldn't have had to call the plumber because I was covered under them, but come to find out the problem was an easy fix and I paid for it myself, which was not a problem. That was a good 130 bucks. But it was worth it to me because I had hot water. But that troubled me, the fact that they had nobody there. Because what if something else failed that would have resulted in me needing a plumber? So, they need to have a better connection or contract with somebody.
When I purchased that home back in August of last year, there was a tenant there and the tenant at the time was waiting on his house to be built there in Newtown. He was a vice president and general manager of PepsiCo. So, I didn't want to disturb his workflow. But he was freaking out because he had to move out at the end of August.
I closed on August 10th and I told him, "Ryan, don't worry about it. We don't need to be there right now. We have another house. So why don't you just go ahead on and just keep it as long as you need it." He said, "Oh, wow, you will do that for me?" "Yeah, go month to month." So, he did that. But during that time that he was there, he called me right at the beginning of October and told me the furnace was messing up. So, I had to work with American Home Shield and the whole bit and that was whenever I had to call and request several times, "Can you please give me a receipt?" My house is a rental. So, I want to have a record. I want a paper trail that the service call was being looked at. I couldn't even get any paperwork.

I hate having to take a vacation day to stay home and the only complaint I have is you have to be home in a certain window of time so it ruins your whole day. American Home Shield uses third-party people. They don't use manufacturers, people that can do the job right the first time. I had a claim for my stove and it took forever. I told the first technician what was wrong with the product, and he ended up ordering different parts to it. When the other technicians showed up, I told them both that this is what's going on and the other guy wasn't understanding what I was telling them. It was a video conference too and I don't see how he didn't understand. Still, the job got done, but I had to wait a few parts later.
I've been lucky the few times since I've had American Home Shield, but I don't think I'll be renewing with them again. They could improve on their prices. I'm very appreciative of American Home Shield. They just recently came through for me when they replaced my air conditioning system. It was old, and I had leaks in my coils in my evaporator system upstairs and a couple of problems throughout the system. It wasn’t running very well and kept losing refrigerant. The techs came out a couple of times and evaluated it. As a matter of fact, they just replaced the evaporator last year and it ran great all year.
During the winter, I didn’t use the air conditioner then when I got ready to use it again, it started freezing up. I called and the techs came out, evaluated it and determined that they had to replace the condenser and the evaporator. Also, the refrigerant they’re using now would not be compatible with the system, so they ended up having to dump everything, start all over again and finally got the unit put in a couple of weeks ago.
So far, having American Home Shield has been a benefit to me. For the premiums I'm paying and the return I'm getting, that might change. The water heater pilot went out. The contractor came out and assessed the issue. They said that they couldn't get it started, they couldn't do anything, and they would have to order a new machine. They said that they would get back to me on pricing because other things had to be done in order for the water heater to be put in like something with the chimney. The company sent me a quote. The other piece of the experience was some other tech shows up at my house wanting to talk to the tech that was in my basement. He was like one of the company owners or the owner’s husband. It put me in a position where there were two men wanting to have a conversation. I didn't feel safe. He had no real reason to be there. They were just sitting there talking while I'm down there and it has nothing to do with the work itself.
Then, I wasn't getting a response from the company on this estimate that they gave me. I got someone else to come out and look at the heater and I didn't need the service that the first contractor had said that I needed. It was like an extra $2,000 to get whatever needed to be done with the chimney but the second contractor said I already have a chimney liner.
I called American Home Shield right away to tell them there was a problem with the contractor and asked them to give me the option to have the part ordered and have someone else put it in because I don't trust the first company. They said they would have to call me back. They couldn't get in contact with the company and they said they had ordered it already. I never got the option to say whether I wanted a part ordered or whether I wanted that company to do anything. Who authorized it? The rep couldn't tell me who authorized the purchase and she just kept saying she had to call me back because she couldn't get in contact with them.
To my knowledge, nothing else has happened. I had to get someone to do something different to the water heater and pay out of pocket in order to have hot water. Then, I have to take the time to cancel American Home Shield. I'll never recommend American Home Shield to anyone after this experience. I've had them in the past and this is the absolute worst.

That repair lasted a week, then I had to have another repair person come out. That also didn't work, so a third person came out and the wiring had been bad. AHS covered my dryer. My two air conditioning units went out. I had a representative come out and he told me that he will have to test one of the units to see if there was a leak. He would have to inject something into the unit then he would come back out in three days to determine if there was a leak. If there was a leak, he would have to determine where the leak was coming from. In the end, things didn't happen like that.
I got a text on the day when he was supposed to come back out to determine if there was a leak that the appointment was canceled. I called to find out what the reason was. I was told that one of the units needed an evaporator coil and American Home Shield wouldn't cover the second unit because the issue was a bracket in the unit that wasn't on correctly. I went ahead and called an air conditioning company to come out to tell me what was going on. I still need air in my home.
The tech is working on the second one, getting the parts, and getting it running. He was able to get the other one running and I didn't need an evaporator coil. The tech said that whatever the initial representative did, he left a whole part unplugged. This could have been purposeful. It's one thing to come out and assess and see if it's gonna fall under warranty. Whether or not it falls under warranty is neither here nor there when you're further damaging my property. That representative turned off the valve on the system. This meant that when the gentleman was trying to do the assessment, the compressor wouldn't come on. He also didn't come back to turn it on so that it was not damaging my unit further.
I'm now wondering what I'm getting into. I thought I was trying to do something good to protect my home. But if they come out and they're doing further damage, that's ridiculous. I also need a full report on what the initial representative came up with because what he said was wrong wasn't what was wrong. He also said that the bracket that was needed for the second unit was not covered. But the tech I got was able to get that one going. If it was a bracket gone, how would I know that a bracket was off? Also, why leave a whole part off and leave the wires hanging out?
I am very disappointed. I almost wanted to try to see how I could cancel American Home Shield because I don't have money to give to a company. They're tearing up my equipment even further and that's very malicious. I initially thought the representative was professional and kind in answering my questions. But he was flat-out lying.
The service was horrible and it makes my blood pressure go up to even talk about it. I paid out of pocket for the tech that fixed my unit. I’m filing all kinds of complaints. I asked for an appeal from American Home Shield and they said I did it within a reasonable time and someone should reach out to me. But that hasn't happened.

American Home Shield’s service and reliability has been great. They’re honest and stand up to their word of the coverage, unlike other home warranties. I saw advertisements and unfortunately joined a couple other ones which were very unproductive. These other people are rip-offs, and I apologize for not joining American Home Shield sooner. Any claim that I've put in has been covered. Water backup from my toilet, immediately, they had Sears here. They also serviced my pool as well as my appliances, and they fixed my dishwasher. I feel terrible about putting in the claims, but I have this for when something breaks.
I was a little disappointed with my recent request though. In my contract it says I have to maintain the serviceability of my equipment. My pool, air conditioner, sewers and all the others are inspected to keep my warranty. I received an email that said, “You're eligible for a free air conditioner check-up.” It’s only my second year here, but I get it checked every year within 12 months. I went to the email that AHS sent me and I registered for my yearly inspection. I have two air conditioners, one for upstairs, and one for downstairs, and they charged me $75 each for the free air conditioning inspection.
The service guy who was coming out to do the inspection called me. He was scheduled to come, and that reminded me to call American Home Shield and ask them why I received an email of free air conditioning inspection to maintain my service. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone did some checking, came back on the phone and explained to me that the email was sent to me in error. I wasn't eligible because it was not my yearly cycle, and they kept my $150.

They also came out for a few other claims before that I put in to fix some things. This was their third time to come out so I'm used to them. They're good. I prefer them over anybody else. They came on time. The tech used the thing and got the hair out. It took 10 minutes, and that was it. The shower works with no clog anymore. It's good to have AHS. It's convenient. I don't have to worry about anything. I just go right on there quickly. I've already told a few people about AHS, so they have already signed up.

The service of AHS has been good. I had two claims recently. One, the washer went out. There was a part and they were able to fix it. Two, my refrigerator went out and they were able to replace that. Once the techs brought it up that it couldn't be fixed, they told us to look for another one. We had a choice of either shopping with them, or they would provide us with a check to go get our own. All the technicians have been good as well. However, I hope if I got really good service from a particular contractor, that could be put on my account as the contractor that I would like. So I don't have to have different people come into my home.

I called in over the phone for two different issues. One, my dryer was not drying clothes like it was supposed to. I turned on my clothes dryer on a Sunday, and I had to stay at home an extra two hours trying to get a load of clothes to get dry. Two, the refrigerator kept having a puddle of water in front of it. It started out as a little puddle and every couple of days, I had to mop in front of the refrigerator, then all of a sudden, it was a big puddle. The handle on my refrigerator looked like it was coming loose, and the light was coming on and off as well. I thought it was the bulb, but one day, the light will be on in there, then another day it will be off.
After I gave all the information for the request, the person I was talking to said they were sending me a link to do a video call because they needed the model numbers for both appliances. They also wanted to take a picture of the appliance model numbers, which was really interesting. I had never done something like that. We did the video call and the lady I talked to was very patient because I don't keep model numbers sitting around. I had try to find them. The light in the refrigerator was dark, and I tried to take pictures then I opened it up enough to read her the numbers after I found it. The first thing I found was the wrong thing and I was reading something that had nothing to do with the model number, but she didn't get frustrated. I said, "Okay, wait, I'm gonna try to do this," then going from the refrigerator upstairs, I had to run downstairs to go in the basement to get the information for the dryer, and she just kept talking to me.
The repair person came and most of the time, I watched him. He was very knowledgeable as well as professional, explained everything that he was doing, and answered my questions when I asked him. It was a good experience all the way around for me, and I haven't had any problems since that happened. I was so used to seeing water on the floor and grabbing the mop every so many days, I still come out to my kitchen and look down, nothing. Also, now I open the refrigerator, and I can see. It's working.
I have had people ask me about American Home Shield and I said I really like the service. I talked about how I called and explained everything that was going on with my appliances and how the lady that I was talking to was very nice. I've already recommended American Home Shield to other people and they said, "Well, I ain't never looked at that." I said, "Yeah, I was really impressed and pleased with the service that I got. And the repair person was excellent." Because sometimes companies will send somebody out, and then I'm pissed off because they don't tell you what they're doing. They do a few things until you're all set, then you have problems later.

Every time something went wrong with something at my house and I called, American Home Shield would send this same company, Pro Appliances. The lady that talks to me at Pro Appliances is very nice and professional, but then, the person she sends out can be obnoxious. He wanted a video of the washer and I told him, “We’re not gonna do a video. What do you want me to video? The washer isn’t working. I can send you pictures of the washer. What’s that gonna do? Nothing.” So, I said, “Please send someone out.” He came out after four days and said to my son, “I’m only gonna video. I’m not gonna do anything.” My son said, “What is the video going to do? We really need the washing machine.” He looked at my son and said, “You know what? I’ll be back when I get back in this area,” and with that, he walked out. I asked American Home Shield before not to send that guy out again. The last time we had him, it was the same thing.
I was very unhappy about American Home Shield when they didn’t do something right away about that first company and a big part of the reason this claim has been open over two and a half weeks now from when I first called was that. American Home Shield wouldn't let the current guy come out, because they said they had to hear from me. I called them and they said, “Well, we still have to wait till the other guy cancels out.” I said, “Listen. In the meantime, I’m without a washing machine.” It's not like it's my refrigerator, and it's not life and death, but I would like to get it fixed. It's been a little difficult without a washing machine because there's several of us in the house. I've been having to do laundry at one of my kids' houses.
I've used American Home Shield now for different things, and I highly recommend them. I've even heard from the repairman that we have now, Ben, when I said, “Yeah, I’m a little disappointed because I didn’t want that guy coming back again. And darn, they sent him again.” He said, “I do business with a lot of them, and of all of the home warranty companies, I have to tell you, American Home Shield is really the best,” and that was unsolicited.
Ben has been here twice and tried to fix my washer the first time without having to get a new motherboard. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to fix it. It's one of those high-tech washing machines. It’s not that old and it’s frustrating as hell, but I’m perfectly happy with Ben. He did what he could and thought he might have it fixed, but it isn't. He had to send away for an important part for it. That was going to take several days, and I'm still waiting. In fact, I just texted him again today and asked him if he had any idea when that part might come in. It’s not Ben's or American Home Shield's fault. It’s hard to get materials these days.
I’ve been in real estate since 1970. I have told people over the years, countless times, to get American Home Shield's product, but I didn’t offer it for compensation. I offered it because I understood from people that bought it that it was a good program. I ended up buying it myself as well, but I didn’t get it because I had a bunch of old equipment that was going to go bad. As a matter of fact, I was told that it covered my pool and my computer. I could also get a battery every year, but I haven’t done that. My pool equipment went bad and when I called them on that, the guy came out and said, “It’s not covered.” I had to pay for that myself and that cost me almost $500. I’m not upset with American Home Shield though. They have been responsive to me.
I bought American Home Shield because I thought it would be a safe thing for me to do. I'm not getting any younger, and I don't want to depend on my kids to help me. Also, my range is not that old, and I just bought a brand-new microwave. My washer and dryer weren’t that old either. They were top-of-the-line Kenmore and they have everything you can ask for in a washer and dryer. Plus, I had just put a whole new heating and air conditioning system in and it cost me $6,500. Everything looked reasonably good and I figured, “This is not a bad time to get American Home Shield.”
When my KitchenAid refrigerator went, I had no idea that it would. It was only three years old. American Home Shield covered it, but they only paid about three quarters of it, and I had to pay the difference. They said the reason was they didn’t have anybody delivering in my area. I said, “You got to be kidding me? Then, why can’t you have somebody from another area?” I should have probably cancelled after that, because I was really upset that I had to pay so much money to get my refrigerator fixed.

I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) on March 22, 2022 for an issue with my AC. They notified me that a company called ATR was assigned to me. On March 24 a tech came to my house and hosed out my outside unit and said that was all it needed. I told him I was still not getting any cool air from my vents. He said since it was a cool day and wait until it was hotter outside. I did and it never got cooler.
On April 25, I call AHS and told them my AC was still not working. There wasn’t a contractor assigned to my case until 2 days later on April 27. Once I got the notice I found it was the same company who came on March 24. I called ATR and was told they couldn’t come until almost 2 weeks later on May 7. I then called AHS and told them ATR said they couldn’t come for almost 2 weeks so they assigned a company called Air Force One. I had asked AHS not to send Air Force One again because of previous poor service from them in addition to the fact they told me on a previous visit on my downstairs furnace that I needed to have some of my ductwork redone and it wasn’t covered by AHS. They said the cost would be over $1,000 for the work. I had another company come at my expense and they said the work wasn’t needed.
On April 29, Air Force Once came and determined my compressor was bad and said they were going to write up for a replacement. While the tech was there, he told me there was going to need to be a lot of other work done that would be out of pocket from me and the cost would be around $5,000 but they did financing. I told him over the years I have replaced units and never needed to do the work they said I would need to do to replace an existing system.
I called AHS on April 30 and asked what was going to be done and was told they were waiting on the report from Air Force One. I called AHS back on May 2 and asked what was going to be done and was told they were still waiting on Air Force One to send in their report. I called back again on May 3 a couple of times and told AHS rep called Air Force One again and they finally sent over their report 4 days later but listed there was $5,000 in out of pocket expenses that AHS wouldn’t cover. I told the AHS rep about my belief Air Force One wasn’t be honest and what they were stating needed done as out of pocket was required.
I told the rep I have replaced systems in the past and never had issues that Air Force One was saying needed done. As an example, they said I needed duct work, a new thermostat (which I just replaced a few months ago), new drain pan, new drain line, new copper line, new electrical, etc. I actually can have a new system installed for less than Air Force One is saying would be out of pocket expenses.
The rep then said they could get me a cash out offer and I could have someone else do the work. They I would get it within 24 to 48 hours. I called back on the 4th to see if they had an updated since my AC hasn’t been working for weeks but they said I had to give it up to 48 hours. I called back on the 5th which was 48 hours later and was told then never got anything from the cash-out department and was missing some data, They said they would check back into it again and I would have to wait another 24 to 48 hours. I called back on the 6th and asked for an update but told by your escalation department I needed to give it up to 48 hours and I told them I had already been waiting for many days. I called back again on the 7th, now 48 hours for the second time. I was told again that they were still waiting of the cash=out department and they were still missing data and would resubmit again and I would have to wait 24 to 48 hours again.
I spoke to another member of the escalation department and told them I was unhappy and wanted to speak to a Manager but told they couldn’t connect me to a Manager. When I spoke to a member of the escalation department a guy told me he spoke to someone in the cash-out department and he would call me back the next day with an offer. It has been over 2 days from that call and he never called me back or did I get an offer.
I called yesterday May 11 again and was told the still is an issue with the cash-out department and I needed to wait. The lady said she had talked with the guy I spoke with them a couple days earlier who never called me back who she said was working on the case and she would have him call me back last night but yet again that didn’t happen.
I don’t know any more than I did over 10 days ago when I was told I would hear back from them in 24 to 48 hours. When I call AHS I am lied to and have been without an AC for almost a month now. Sometimes when I have spoken with and AHS rep, I have to listen to a rooster in the background while I am being lied to. I have been patient and now telling as many real estate company reps about the service I have received from AHS. The one I purchased my warranty with told me he no longer recommends AHS to his clients because of issues like mine and AHS poor service.

Also, someone would call me in one or two days to set up repairs or he would come out here in two days. It's very easy. I can cook on my oven sometimes and other times it's not showing. So, the tech is still working on that. He asked me to call him back when it's out again because it's a hard fix when it's on.

When you have a claim, you can call American Home Shield or you can go online. I go online and it says "submit a request". You hit yes and for what property. If it's air conditioning, heat, water, or whatever it is, you check that off and you send it. Usually, within 24 hours, you're contacted by somebody to do the fix. But what they don't tell you is they might tell you it’s next week when they can come to fix it. I had a water leak and it was nine days before someone could get out there. You're looking at a week most of the time for a lot of stuff.
American Home Shield doesn't necessarily give you the service that they promised you on the phone. But the advantage is you pay the $75 and techs come out and they fix or replace. I have rentals and the whole heat and air conditioning unit in one of them went up. Techs went out there to fix one piece and they found something on the other piece. They replaced it. It cost me about $1,500 because they don't tell you about connecting to ducts, rewiring, and some little petty things they threw in there. Overall, it was about $7,500 to $8,500 a unit. When it comes to the techs, it's not the same one all the time. I've had Sears come out. I also had one boy that was young and he did not know stuff about the hot water on demand. I knew more than him because I had fooled with the unit a little bit. The rest of the techs were very professional and nice.
I also had a claim for my refrigerator and that was the killer. My refrigerator started not cooling on November the 4th last year. American Home Shield sent six technicians out. The first guy that came out said it needed to be replaced, which was probably about $2,600. American Home Shield said I didn't have a contract with them. I talked to two or three people about that. They said it was a mistake. The rest of the techs came out. They would walk in and say they don't do sealed units.
I called American Home Shield and I complained and I cussed them. This was over the major holidays. Customer service was extremely difficult to understand. After the sixth one, I said I was going to get the unit fixed and asked if they were going to pay for it. The guy that I talked to said to find out the price and submit it to them. I did that and called back. I got somebody else. You can never talk to the same person. She said, “No, let us try one more time.” I said, “I can't let you try one more time. I need my refrigerator.” I called my guy and he came out for $725. I submitted the invoice to American Home Shield and they said I didn't have the authorization to have the refrigerator fixed. I said, “You couldn't get my refrigerator fixed in 10 weeks over two major holidays.” In the end, I didn't get reimbursed for that.
The other thing with American Home Shield is they won't let you talk to a supervisor. A call is not escalated. Instead, somebody will call you back. I asked if the person who called back if he was a supervisor and he was not but he said he could help. What you end up doing is, if you have an issue, you tell the same story every time someone calls. The same person does not call you back.

Overall, I'm not that satisfied with the HVAC services for my air conditioning. I've got an older unit so refrigerant is hard to get. But I'm taking the brunt of that cost for filling the unit now. Because right now, I have to pay over $1,000 for a technician to come out and refill my unit with refrigerant after they replaced the coils on it. I just think that's an excessive expense when I'm making monthly payments to them and I only use the plan once every 18 months. I'd like to see AHS take responsibility for more of the cost of supplies.
One time, a technician came out and replaced my garbage disposal, but it took two calls. With the first technicians that came out, they told me nothing was wrong with my garbage disposal. I had an electrician come out once and he ended up charging me for something he said wasn’t covered. My son said that was not right. I should never have had to pay. Then, I had a garage door opener guy come out and it was just the sensors at the bottom, so there was nothing wrong. There was a sink and a tub in the same bathroom that were draining slow so TMD Plumbing came out. They didn’t find any major problem. They snaked it and everything was working fine again. That went well. We've had TMD out a few times and they're always very good. The contractors that AHS has sent out have been great. They're very professional. They come on time, diagnose the problem quickly and fix it quickly as well. We have an older house so we like that if there's ever anything that goes wrong with an appliance or plumbing, we just call American Home Shield and they send somebody out, and it's just the copay. The issue usually gets fixed or we've had a number of things that have been replaced.
Typically, we've been happy with AHS but I'm a little disgruntled with them at this moment because our dryer broke and it's been five weeks. They kept sending the same guy out to fix it and he kept bringing the wrong part, and then he'd have to order a new part. And then it was another week. AHS decided to order me a new dryer and when the dryer came, it was for an electric hookup instead of a gas, which is what I have. So, I'm now on Week Six without a dryer. They were supposed to call me yesterday with an update but I didn't get a call yesterday. I don't know if they're having trouble keeping employees or what's going on, but I have to do a lot of legwork and spend a lot of time on the phone just getting follow-up lately. I don't remember it being like this because we renew our contract every year and it’s $800 at least a year.

I had a claim for a refrigerator, a microwave, and a dishwasher that wasn't draining. With the refrigerator, the ice maker was broken and the coolant housing was busted. The tech ordered the parts and a couple of days later, another guy fixed that. With the microwave that wasn't heating up, the tech said he couldn't fix it so I should just go on the website, do the cash option, and be done with it. So AHS just sent a settlement and I got another microwave.
With the dishwasher, the computer board was out whenever the guy first came. They redid the computer board so that was fine. I tried the dishwasher out again to find out it was leaking at the bottom. So, I put another claim 'cause the tech is supposed to come back out but he never fixed the rest of it so far. Other than that, the contractor was great and the tech was very knowledgeable.

The first claim was associated with a toilet that was leaking. It was the first time that I used the process, so it was confusing to not be able to ask somebody exactly how they did this. I got a notification that I could use a video call about it. What you would see is water on the floor, so I'm not sure exactly how that was supposed to work. Also, it seems onerous to have to pay American Home Shield $100 when somebody has paid $500 or $600 for the contract. But I was satisfied with the quality of the work that J&M did. Because they did three different things, and all of them were well done. They did an excellent job fixing the problem. The people that came out from J&M were journeyman plumbers, and they were careful, courteous, and made sure we understood what was going on.

It definitely justifies the membership subscription. So far, everything's been great.
I call the 1-800 number whenever I have a claim and I let them know what's wrong. They take down the information and they get me connected with the appropriate servicing company. I had two things, my washer and water heater. It's easy to submit the claim. With the washer, whoever that vendor was was wonderful. That guy was wonderful. He came on time, stated the issue, what it could be, and did all his testing. He identified the problem, said it was this, and he rescheduled the appointment for a week later. He cleaned up after himself well. We were out of use of a washer for a week, but we dealt with it. And when he came back, he came back at the time of his appointment, and he replaced the part. It looked like it wasn't that part. He identified the issue. After ongoing tests, he found the issue and he replaced that part, and now the washer works great.
But getting the correct vendor is bad because we had problems with our water heater before. That vendor for the plumber constantly kept canceling. I would see that he would be on his way when I checked the status of him coming out, but it kept getting pushed back by hour. All of a sudden, he couldn't come out. He's bad. We were over two months without hot water. It took that vendor that long to get it. And when he put it in, he didn't do it right because less than a month later, the water heater thing blew up. So, we ended up replacing the hoses ourselves. So, we had a bad experience with that water heater and the vendor that American Home Shield provided us, even after we told them of the number of complaints about them with the Better Business Bureau, AHS still continued to do business with that plumber.
Also, they were supposed to replace a comparable water heater or better. But they gave a much less water heater. Also, they were supposed to refund my service call for that water heater. They haven't done that. I told them I still haven't got that refund because I ended up doing it myself.

Worked was denied, I ended up paying for the repair myself, plus premiums, plus the $100 fee to AHS.. So this ended up costing me more than if did not have a policy at all. After the contractor left, I called AHS to discuss what happened and request a refund of my $100 or the $300 I paid the contractor. Both was denied... They used some type of technicality to get out of paying for the service call. Very bad company - I am cancelling my policy, I would not recommend doing business with them.
The people I was talking to on the phone did not speak English very well. I think I was going to a call center somewhere outside of the United States. Very difficult communication, and these people are the ones who are making the decision to deny the claim. On the platinum coverage, leaking pipes is specifically covered, until the contractor arrives. Resolution they offered, they would select a different plumber and send out for a 2nd opinion, but if the AHS selected plumber did not agree with me, then I would be billed for a 2nd opinion, causing more expense on the problem already... It was a no-brainer to go back to them when we decided to go ahead and get a home warranty. We have peace of mind and we absolutely love having them. When something happens, we pay our monthly premium and when you're having to call somebody, you're not worried it's going to be thousands of dollars. It's simply a deductible that you pay and whatever needs to be fixed is fixed or replaced.
When I have a claim, I just go on through the app and tell them my problem. I get a text immediately letting me know who's been signed. We did a claim when the AC stopped working the weekend before last. We had to wait until Monday to get a call and that was a little bit frustrating. But under the circumstances, it was a weekend. Weekend rates are higher because it's considered an emergency call and I get that. It also was a little bit cooler that time. I've been successful with American Home Shield for quite some time. But there are a couple of things that could be a little bit better. When a claim is submitted, they seem to only look at companies that are registered with the provider even for cases where we have fixes that require emergency assistance such as a refrigerator being out. Based on the people registered with American Home Shield, they are not able to provide a service within two weeks or so. They should be able to look in the area. If that service provider isn't available, who will be next? They should base some of the services on categories, which is considered an emergency compared to standard repair work.
The home warranty is beneficial every now and then. We didn't get the name of the plumbing service that we used the last time. He was a hardworking worker and was very professional but the toilet thing broke off two days after and one of the flushes isn't going down. We're in the process of trying to reach back out to see who provided service to us last. I'm quite sure the tech will be able to come and adjust it.
Most of the appliance people that came out left a business card in their brochure. Fred's Appliances was outstanding. The plumber didn't have any type of business card to say, "Hey, if you need some extra work done, here's my number. Give us call if you got any problems. If it's something that's covered that we did, we'll come back out or if it's something with American Home Shield, just put it back in."
I would also make a suggestion that America Home Shield give us the opportunity to rate the quality of the person so they get the overall observation of what type of people are coming in. If they're receiving feedback for one particular vendor and the rating score's really low, they might want to discontinue their service because that would help them to identify that there seems to be a problem with the vendor that's coming out. This will lead customers not wanting to stay with American Home Shield.
We have other properties that we have covered. Sometimes the customer service in the duration of reimbursement, the process can be quite long. For my claim, it took 23 or 28 days to get some service done. By this time, we're looking to try to see what we can afford out of pocket because it falls into that category of an emergency basis and it doesn't always line up with American Home Shield's timeline. At times, we might have to pay somebody out of pocket. On the whole, I've had American Home Shield for years and I'm happy with the service that's why I keep them around.

I was assigned Foster's to repair my oven and I waited a few days but I hadn't heard anything from them. When I called them, they told me that they already told American Home Shield that they could not service my oven. I said it was fine, but nobody had notified me that they needed to make a switch. When I called customer service, they looked at the records and said they declined the order. So, they assigned somebody else. When the guy came, he looked at my oven, but he didn't pull it out of the wall, and left. He said he would have to order a part. But then I received another email from Foster's, indicating that they were setting up an appointment. So, when I talked to them, they came and repaired my oven.
Both companies have been to my house twice. But the other guy who said he was gonna order the part but didn't come back, did that the first time he came. I felt like when he saw me, that he didn't want to work here. I can't be sure that he didn't say anything rude. He wasn't personable at all nor friendly. He didn't kick my dog but I didn't have a good feeling about it. And that was the second time he had been here that he did not complete any kind of service.
When Foster's came back the second time and I asked the guy if he had been here before, he said he didn’t remember. But he did everything he was supposed to do. He pulled the oven out of the wall, ordered the part, came back and took care of it. So, Foster's was not a problem for me other than the initial mix-up with them declining the service at the beginning. When he left after he came and diagnosed the issue, he said it might be one thing and he was going to order a part. He was not positive but he was going to order what he thought was wrong. When he came back that second time, he wasn't able to fix it with that part. But he did let me know that he wasn't sure the first time.
When he ordered the second time, he said he would be back in about a week and that it would be about five days to get the part. It was about a week and a half but they did call me and I wasn't concerned in a half of another week. So, they called me and set up the appointment. He came out, put it in and everything has been fine ever since.
I've been very happy that I have this service now because for many years, when I first started getting those little postcards about home warranty, I thought it was something I didn't need. But I had to have my oven repaired and it cost me $1,200. Then, I spoke to a friend of mine and she mentioned that she had American Home Shield or she had a warranty service and they were coming to fix something of hers. I was thinking that it works. There are two different individuals that I know that used a warranty service and they had used it and said it was good. And once I've gotten AHS, I've used them at least three times.

They should have called somebody else. I had to keep on calling for them to call another company. They had Sears come out the second time.

Some of the contractors of AHS are good. Some of them aren't. They should pick more carefully or review their ability to complete the job.

My washing machine wouldn't spin. Something was wrong with the cycle. The rep was polite. He looked at my washer and told me what he thought my machine needed. He wrote everything down and told me that American Home Shield will be in contact with me very soon. Within a few hours, I received texts from American Home Shield. The first one stated the tech's findings and the second one stated that I should be receiving a new washing machine. Everything was online, and I could pick the one I wanted within the amount that they gave me.
The experience with AHS was good. But sometimes I find it too expensive. I pay them once a month and I have to pay them for the serviceman to come to my home. On top of that, if I don't get the delivery time needed, it could cost me a day's work.

My air conditioner went out. The techs were on time. They were very knowledgeable, super polite and hardworking. They didn't leave a mess. I would use them again. They got the job done. A long time ago, other people came through AHS and did a terrible job. But these people did a good job. The warranty has helped us. It took $2,000 off the air conditioner price.

American Home Shield is doing what they're supposed to do. They live up to their word. I made the appointment. The contractor came out and did the work. They said the hvac was in good shape. We had another claim last winter on the furnace. The contractor put a blower in.

A starter on the pool went out. The tech came out and fixed it right away. It worked out. The first time that my hot water heater went out, American Home Shield fixed it. But three years later, the hot water heater that they replaced went out again. So I have to pay the service fee again. But all of a sudden, I had to pay additional fees for permits. I've never paid for a permit. That same hot water heater has been replaced at least four times thus far and it hasn't even been 10 years. There was also an instance when I tried to tell them, “Listen, you guys put this hot water heater in there. It’s damage. It has dent and dings in it.” It's not safe, but they couldn't resolve it and wouldn't resolve it. I couldn't speak to somebody that could speak English.
There was another issue with my washing machine and I had major water damage because American Home Shield sent out a company who jimmied jack bootleg internal parts within my washing machine that made it back up into the wall. I had water damage in the garage and the walls in the laundry room. But American Home Shield doesn't cover it. They just said, “Oh, well, we'll send another technician out to fix your washer.” They couldn't tell what company did it because at this particular time, they had two different companies that were documented that came out to work on my washing machine. For the most part, the customer service has been horrible over the last four years.

Draingo came out to look at some of my plumbing issues. I had some dripping in my laundry area. I did the claim through the website of American Home Shield. It worked out. They told me who the contractor was and what time they were gonna come and I was given their contact number. The techs were nice. They diagnosed my issues and let me know what was the main factor and what I needed. So, they helped out. AHS is doing a good job, so far.

Everything I have had American Home Shield do has been very satisfactory. I did the air conditioner maintenance check-up for $75. They sent a guy out and he was very efficient. He got on the roof and took care of it. He also changed the filter for me. I was very happy with it.

American Home Shield is a safety net and I'll never get rid of it. I had an issue that started to be an electrical fire and the wires were melting. And I called 911 and they shut it down at the breaker box. Flowertown and Air came and the tech replaced some wires. He was friendly and professional. I said, "Is that a normal thing?" He's like, "Yeah." But, I would have liked a little more information. There was another guy I had before and I could tell he was thorough and that he knew what he was doing. He really wanted to teach me and said, "This is how this works and this is why it did this." So, there's a very big difference. But this other guy did the work and he was gone. But would definitely recommend Flowertown Heating and Air. I've had them come out quite a few times. They're always professional, courteous, and quick.
With my last claim for my oven, this guy showed up with a screwdriver an hour and a half late on the first visit. I called because I kept getting text message updates that said that he's on his way, and then there's a little map you can look at and it shows that he's 15 minutes away, but the number of minutes away kept growing. He didn't touch the oven at all and just said it needed this and this. So, my oven caught fire. He ordered the parts and he's going to fix it but they're supposed to be here from 12:00 to 5:00 and I haven't heard anything today. The last time I waited from 12:00 to 5:00 and at 5:00, I started going, "Okay, so are they not coming in?" And they came at 6:30. Other than that, I've been with AHS for three years and we've been very impressed.

I needed a spring tune-up for my air conditioner to make sure that we have conditioning in the heat. The young man took care of checking everything out and he seemed to be very knowledgeable and well-spoken. It was an excellent service call. I had a couple of plumbing calls and American Home Shield sent PHD Mechanical who corrected the issue. The only thing I am concerned with is that the costs with AHS aren't exactly cheap. I don't know how much I'm saving by doing this. But when I call, the techs usually come within a day or two, whatever the issue is, and that's fine.

With my recent appliance request with AHS, the tech did a really good job with our refrigerator. He had to order all the parts. When the parts came in, he fixed it. Everything is going great now. We have another claim with AHS that's ongoing. We've had trouble with the furnace starting just a few months after we moved in. They came and thought they had it repaired. But then, six months later, it didn't work again.
The guy came and he said it was a different contractor that had been here before and he said that the heat exchanger was bad and that it was cracked. But when he took the serial numbers, the part was still under the manufacturer's warranty. So, they have done the manufacturer's warranty on that, but it's on backorder. Now, we've been waiting over a month for that part. But AHS has been awesome with us. I'm really pleased with them and would definitely recommend them.

My air conditioner was not working. The techs were able to get it fixed in the same visit. AHS has been really good. Overall, that serves me well and I enjoy how they organize everything for me so I don't have to have a headache looking for prices and ranges.

The rep at AHS told me they would submit the claim and that I would get a call from the appliance company. They also gave me the appliance company's contact information. The appliance company called me within a couple of hours. I told them how my washer was and what had happened. The appliance company came out and diagnosed. The day they came out, they knew right away what the problem was. There were certain parts that needed to be ordered. They ordered the parts, came back the following Monday and replaced everything. In the meantime, when they had to remove the agitator, it broke. They had to order a new agitator, came back out the end of that week and replaced the agitator.

AJS Services is the best. I don't want anybody else to work on my stuff. I had two claims with them. NI had a leak in my basement, in my air handler. The problem was the air handler was a 1988 model. They came out and had to put a new air handler in. After they put the air handler in, I couldn't get my heat pump to work right. They came out and found that the reversing valve was bad. It's a 1998 model also and they repaired it. I would never think about not having American Home Shield. I have two houses, and it's in both of them. It's not expensive and they handle everything. There are a lot of people I know that have bought American Home Shield because I told them to.
