I had problems with my AC unit. It's still an ongoing process with American Home Shield. They still haven't been able to completely fix my unit. The techs have been out here about five times. Every time they come out, it's a different issue, but AHS was able to send out the company pretty soon. It's just that we've been dealing with this for over a month now and we’ve been without AC the whole time. American Home Shield has been decent and helping us as best as they can. They've been able to reach the company and get them to notify me that I need them to come back out. I've had some previous repairs too and all those services were done.
Brittney,
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

I'm a first-time homeowner and it's been pretty easy to just put in a claim, have someone come out, and schedule it around my time. I used the warranty to get my dishwasher repaired and Hein Sight was sent out. The tech was very professional. He let me know exactly what was going on and that he needed to order the parts and come back. It went pretty quickly. As soon as the parts came in, he told me when the next availability was to come out and asked if that was okay. He was very good at communication.

American Home Shield has sent out great people, and it's been timely. It's been a good experience. The contractor has been assigned almost immediately after I've done my online claim. The people that had been sent out have been very professional. They let me know that they were coming and then they did a good job when they were here. All in all, it's been good service. The tech that came out for the AC even made sure every part of the unit was really working well. So he went above and beyond. I would use American Home Shield over others. They're very efficient.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.

I've had American Home Shield for 23 years in this house. When we first got here, the air conditioning units were old. They kept replacing them and kept sending people that didn't seem to know what they were doing. So I independently bought a Trane, which is much nicer than what they were replacing. That's the one that we've been having trouble with. It has been out now almost three and a half weeks.
When you call American Home Shield, you get put on hold all the time, and nowadays, you get somebody in the Philippines. The rep had a lot of trouble understanding what I was talking about. We had this thing about the $75 tune-up on your machine and you could pay for two machines. I called and told her, “I have two machines I'd like to have the check-up on.” She said, “No. If you're going to have two machines, is it a service call?” I replied yes and she said, “You'd be charged another $75 if there was something wrong with it.” She insisted that I make the claim about two air conditioning units. I wanted to do a tune-up because I thought maybe it needed more freon. I would have to pay for the extra freon and that would be great. But no. She didn't think that I should get what I was asking her for. She thought I should get this other thing instead. She told me she was writing it up as there were problems with two machines.
In the past, that same air conditioning unit twice had certain things burn out on it. American Home Shield had somebody who was about 10 minutes away from my house. But this one was from West Point, Virginia, which is way far away from where I live, West Richmond. People that don't know the state have no idea. Two men came and were not here very long. One of them said that he had checked and I should turn it off completely. I shouldn't try to run the fan part because it was creating in a vacuum when it was on air conditioning. If it was on heat, it would blow hot air through. It had been off 24 hours when he came because I wanted him to see it. It was a Friday afternoon, and he said, “You're going to need a part and American Home Shield is going to have to approve it. There's nothing more I can do.”
It was it was a week ago, Friday. I called American Home Shield on Saturday to make sure he had sent in the claim. I got another lady from the Philippines. I asked, “Do you have the claim for me?” She replied yes and wanted to talk to me about it. She was gonna send it to the adjuster. I asked when would the adjuster get it. She said in 24 to 48 business hours. On Tuesday, I called K&J, and they said they hadn't gotten my claim from the adjuster yet. They checked and it had been approved. She said, “I will order a part after you pay 1,200 dollars." She said American Home Shield only covers parts and labor and I had to pay for refrigerant which is $135 a pound but they're gonna cover $10 a pound. I was paying $125 for nine pounds which was very different from $2,400. She said I had to pay for the modification.
I paid her on the spot with a debit card. I asked, “Would you send me an email or a text to tell me that you have ordered the part and it’s available?” She said, “It's a Trane so we have to use Trane parts. It's either going to be from Richmond or from Texas.” Richmond is a 15-minute drive from me. Texas is a little bit farther. I said, “I need to know if it's coming from Richmond or Texas. Can you give me an installation date?” She said, “No, because we don't know when the part is gonna come in.”
In the meantime, we've been having 92, 93 degrees temperature. I am suffering from the heat just as much as the pets, and I have asthma and diabetes. I know they can work faster than this. When I had a dishwasher that wasn’t working, I got a plumber through American Home Shield. He pulled out my machine and said, “This dishwasher is so old. I can't get parts for it. I'm gonna tell them it has to be replaced.” He did and within a week, I had a new dishwasher installed. They gave me a choice of lots of dishwashers to choose from. I could pick what I wanted and either pay a little bit to cover the difference in the cost of a dishwasher nowadays or get a fancier one than I had. I got a nice three-level dishwasher.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

I had two claims with AHS. One was my washing machine, and then my ice maker. The guy had me video record the refrigerator. He was good. But he had to come back because the icemaker still wasn’t working. He replaced the parts but it still wasn’t working. He had to order another part. I've been telling everybody about America Home Shield. It’s good to have. AHS is very helpful when we have emergencies like this, and people want money right up front and we don’t have it. I'm in my second year with AHS. The bill payment is what I’m having problems with. They went up on the bill. It was $61, now it’s 73. They were supposed to take it out on the 2nd, and they took it out on the 23rd, which was the old contract. My new contract started on June 2nd, but then they still didn’t take out any payment for June 2nd.

I've had multiple claims with AHS. Their customer service is horrible. I had a hot water heater go out. It was a week out before they would come out and see it. I got small kids. I completely bought and purchased a whole hot water heater and installed it myself that day. What's the point of having them if I'm giving them 75 bucks a month, and it takes a week to come out? Any water problem we have, I have to find somebody else.
They also came out for my Kenmore washing machine and it has never been fixed. It keeps shorting out. The last guy said it was something else. They ordered something and then expected me to put it on. My next appointment for the washing machine is two weeks out. They came out now for the broiler in the oven. They’re gonna replace that or cut me a check so I can buy a new one. The AC also went out and it also took a long time. The dishwasher that they gave me was also a piece of crap. That's been replaced.
Are you still in need of assistance?

American Home Shield has the most comprehensive plan, as far as details, discounts and customer service. Recently, I had a claim for my water heater and it didn’t get through. I didn't find out about the issue until at the beginning of my claim and the condition was ruled pre-existing.

With a home warranty, we have peace of mind knowing that reliable service people are going to show up on time. People are gonna show up and we're gonna get the appliances or equipment repaired. When our AC didn't seem to be cooling, the techs came, checked it over and made it better. They cleaned it too. Everything was good.
That's exactly what we like to hear. We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great week.

I did the report for our water heater on the app and then the tech contacted me that evening, saying he would come out and look at it Monday. He came out and looked at it. He told me that there was a plumbing permit that needed to be done and it was part of the contract. He said American Home Shield would let me know that it was out of pocket. It was outside the $100 deposit that I had to give American Home Shield. So I got that ready.
The tech made the appointment on Sunday and then he came back to the house on Tuesday morning. He had it done in less than two hours. I gave him the plumbing permit money and it was done. Then American Home Shield called me and told me, “Oh, by the way, there’s gonna be a plumbing permit, and it’s gonna be out of pocket.” I told them, “Well, he’s already got his money, and the project’s already been done. So, you’re a little late on informing me.” But the tech and his crew seemed very professional. They were quick and cleaned up after themselves. Everything seems to be working fine. But when I had the air conditioning problem, it seemed that American Home Shield only had one vendor available, which was kind of frustrating. It took longer to get the air conditioning done than the plumbing. But other than that, I haven’t had any issues.

When I made the appointment for the microwave, I called and it was a $125 service charge. I paid that upfront with a credit card. The tech fixed the microwave and did a really good job. Earlier this week, I got mail from American Home Shield and they were asking for another 125 service fee. So, I called them and got to their pay center. I talked to the individual on that end said that it's taken care of and the bill didn't have to be paid.
Having a warranty with them is great. I like the timeliness of it. When I make the appointment, they call and make sure who is going to be coming to the house. But when I had Home Shield before, the service charge was $65. That has change though and I understand that.
Great! We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

With our previous home warranty company, we had to go through so much red tape to even get somebody out here and to address or look at an issue that we were having. When you compare it to American Home Shield, American Home Shield appears to be quick response and right on it. But at the same time, we got an ongoing claim right now, just standing with American Home Shield that's not completed as of yet. But we've gone through the stages. The contractor that came out for our plumbing claim was very professional. My wife was here during the repair and she was very impressed.

So far, the experience has been good. Initially, they were very pushy to ask me to buy it. But I went with my friend's recommendation and that was the reason I bought it. One good thing about the service is they keep on sending reminders to do a particular service. However, I went with the most expensive plan but the copay seems to be very high for this plan, so I might look for something cheaper next year.

Preferred Climate Heating came out to my AC unit pretty much this year and towards the end of last year before we shifted to heat. On days that were super hot to the upper 90s, my AC unit doesn't keep up. So, I called American Home Shield this time again. I called in a few months ago, but the temperature spiked up like 90 and it went back down to 70s. So, it wasn't really a huge deal. I canceled that service call at that point. Then, we had a stretch where it was in the high 90s. So, I called it in again and Preferred Climate came out. They ran diagnostics outside, did their thing, and then came back and told me that both of my HVAC systems were about two pounds low on Freon. Having dealt with this, I know that if Freon is low, then there's a problem someplace because Freon is escaping. They said, "No, your Freon is low and that should fix the problem." I paid that out of pocket and it was roughly $610 to top off the Freon on both units.
On the day they came out, the outside temperature was down to about 74 or so. So, you couldn't really see the extent of what I've been dealing with when it's up in the higher 90s. When it's 95 outside, the best that I can get upstairs in the house is about 80 degrees or so. So, they topped it off. A few days later after they came out, the temperature spiked back up to 90. When that happened, I immediately tried to call them back directly to see if I can get a return call from them and they didn't call me back at all. That was when I called back to AHS to tell them what happened and they scheduled a second visit with them. I tried to call them but didn't get an answer. I got ahold of AHS and they scheduled it again. So finally, after that, I got ahold of them. That was last week and they set up an appointment for Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00 and they never showed until about 12:30-ish.
I tried to call them a few times, but it went straight to voicemail and I got no answer. I called back AHS on Saturday, and they attempted to call them and were unable to get them on the phone either. I haven't heard anything back from them at all. So, earlier today, I went back on the app and tried to do another return service call. Again, I was assigned to Preferred Climate. So, I was attempting to work with them again on the second return call since they had been here once already and diagnosed it and thought it was Freon. I kind of feel like I got ripped off a little bit on that one. Now that I look at it again, I don't think they really ran diagnostics at all. Because I wasn't feeling well that day when they came, so they went out and did their thing on the outside unit and never came inside the house. They kind of got me on that one.
One thing I don't like about AHS is that I have to deal with multiple contractors. With my AC unit, I've had folks come out a few times and every single time is a different company. I just wish that you could stick with one company so they're familiar and you don't have guys like Preferred Climate coming out and ripping you off. At this point, I feel like I got ripped off by these guys. They didn't fix my issue and I paid out 610 bucks when I probably didn't really need to.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

The AC wasn't working. You would turn it off and it'd cut off. American Home Shield sent somebody over and they noticed a mouse made a nest and it cut through the wiring. He was able to change the wiring. It took him maybe a half-hour to change the wiring, and then he changed a servo because it was getting rusty. It's working pretty well now. The claim process with AHS was pretty easy because I went online and did it. The thing I like about having the warranty is that they come to have things fixed and the people they send are reliable.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated.

It’s been horrible with American Home Shield. One of the AC units started having problems and they sent out US Air. This guy, Marvin, came several times. One time, he said it was this. One time, he said it was that. He put a new thermostat and a motherboard in. The last time, he said it needed a card up in the attic to that unit, which was the downstairs unit. He left here and never said a word to me about anything else. The next thing I know, I got a notice from American Home Shield saying it has been refused because he said it was a surge. I've lived here 13 years, and I've never had a surge.
I called in to question that. Their people in the Philippines offered to send another firm out as a second opinion. They sent Quality Air out. Trey checked everything. He said, “I don’t feel it needs a new card. You did not have a surge. Had it been a surge, it would have caused other things to happen.” As he walked out, he said, “I want to get somebody, a higher technician than me, come check.” He left and I never heard from anybody. I waited, gave him two weeks, but I never could reach him. One day, I held on nearly an hour. I have, to this day, never been able to talk to anybody there.
Every you call American Home Shield, you end up with somebody in the Philippines. It used to be, when I would call, I would talk to somebody in the United States. Now, it's never anybody. I have asked them repeatedly, “Please connect me to someone,” because I was having so much trouble understanding them. They would say they couldn't do that. I called about two weeks ago and talked to a man in the Philippines who understood. He tried to call Quality Air. It was 4:20. He said, “They don’t answer. They close at 4 o’clock.” But if you call them, they say, “We assign between 7:00 and 8:00 in the morning, 12:00 and 1:00 at noon, 5:00 and 6:00 in the evening.” Yesterday, again, I tried all day long but never got them. I couldn’t get anybody at US Air or at Quality Air.
According to the people I would talk to, Quality Air apparently never responded to American Home Shield of what Trey told me about it was not a surge. In the meantime, I had a problem upstairs. American Home Shield gave it to Blue Sky. Blue Sky promptly notified me and was right on the ball. The guy came right on time, got it fixed and left. I started calling American Home Shield again about what happened to Quality Air. At that point, the lady in the Philippines got confused. I tried to explain to them, “Blue Sky is out of the picture. That was a different unit. They came and did their work. I did the grading that you asked for.” They keep bringing up that I have something open with Blue Sky.

I like the protection and the security of having a home warranty. It's a great feeling and I'm truly impressed. When making a claim, you have to call and explain to them what the problem is. They find you a vendor and normally, that process takes 30 minutes to an hour. You get feedback on who they assign the claim to. You call the vendor and set up an appointment. I did a claim for my refrigerator and the service people were right on point and very informative. It didn't take long to analyze the problem. They gave me the assessment and they provided good service. I love my experience with American Home Shield and I am truly satisfied. I recommend them to everyone.

My air conditioning and my heating went out at the same time, and the techs repaired the air conditioning portion. I haven't called them back for the furnace yet, because it was more immediate to get the air conditioning unit operating. Still, it was an excellent experience for me. I got the work that I needed to get done in a timely manner. They were also very professional. They did a very good job, very thorough, and although they gave me a window of time that they were going to come, they gave me a call within the hour and said, “Okay, your technician is on his way.” It was beneficial to me because they worked around my schedule. Overall, it is worth it to have a home warranty like American Home Shield. When you have major issues with appliances or things like your furnace or air conditioning go down, instead of paying for a new unit, you just pay the service fee and they'll come out and fix it.

American Home Shield did good on the dryer. A guy came out and fixed it. But when they came out to replace the washing machine, I had trouble because it took too long and we couldn’t wash. I ended up having them to send me a check. I bought it myself and they put it in. I had let the warranty lapse at one point because there wasn't enough funds in my bank, and I didn't follow up. But when I called them back, their contractor was supposed to come out and fix the leak that I had in my faucet. They weren’t able to fix that. When I called them to have the contractor come back out, they said my warranty expired so I got to pay the $100 deductible. I told them that was not right ‘cause they never fixed it the first time.
I’m not happy with American Home Shield at all. The service is terrible. I had a problem with my heater in the wintertime, and they sent five different people out. The first time, the repairman said we needed a special part. They couldn't do it. American Home Shield sent another person but that person didn't know what the first person did. They replaced the switch on my furnace in the attic because they said the switch was broken. Then the thing upstairs was shorting out. The heat would come on and cut off. It was 30 degrees in our house during that time. It didn't work.
I had to call the home warranty and they sent another guy out. He didn't know the issue and I tried to explain to him. I told American Home Shield not to send that company again. Another company came out. The repairman looked at it and said the switch the second company put in was the wrong switch. They put in the original one which was good. But now, it doesn't work.
We had to buy a heater for our house. We have a fake fireplace, but it wouldn't heat up the whole upstairs. Our kids couldn’t put the heaters in their room because it kept blowing the circuit breaker. We were freezing in January and February. When I asked them if they could send the same company out, they said yes but then they cancelled and never sent anybody out. If they have a company that's good, they could try to use that company for the same person. Finally, they did. But it was such a hassle. Now, it's hot, and only the AC works upstairs. I'm going to go back to Old Republic Home Warranty because I don’t like American Home Shield at all. When I spoke to a manager once, I got the runaround. They don't seem like they care about their customers.

But they were so busy so they were going to dispatch a technician around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The technician showed up on time and was quite courteous and professional. I submit a request for work through American Home Shield's website then I pay a $75 fee and they usually assign me a technician for the job I need to get taken care of. Customer support is good, and there's only been two instances that I've got some concerns with. With a garage door replacement, I didn't get the customer service I needed. They could've given a better explanation of what was going to get covered, especially with the garage door. Also, if I've had a bad experience with a service provider, I would like the opportunity not to get them again. For instance, I had a plumber that came out that was not very professional and asked for weird things to get his work done.
The plumber got the work done, I sent him on his way then I had another issue with some more plumbing. When I submitted for a work order, AHS was gonna send him again. We just cancelled him and hired somebody off the street, which was dissatisfying to me because I'm paying $95 a month for a service. Because I had a bad experience with this plumber, anytime I have a plumbing issue, I'm very apprehensive having to ask the American Home Shield that they try to send me the same technician. I'm done. I'm gonna have to move somewhere else.

I've got a dishwasher repair going on right now. The tech came out and told me that it was unrepairable due to they can't get parts for that machine anymore and he said he would put it in as a replacement. I called American Home Shield about a week later and they said they had the parts available so they were gonna get the parts and they'll be sent to the technician for the repair. That was over three weeks ago so I don't know what's going on with it. I'm not enjoying this claim. But Wright Appliance, the contractor, is great. They’ve been in my house before and have always done a good job.
American Home Shield’s service has paid off for me. We've had a couple of claims on refrigerators that they did a great job on. But this one they're not doing too well on and they oversell "We'll replace it if we can't fix it" at times. They offered me a cash-out option on an oven that they replaced one time. They should have just replaced it but they gave me a cash offer, and it was too low.

He had to come back. Then he used a different type of tool to open it up. I haven't had any trouble, so far. However, AHS sets me up quickly with someone when I have a claim. But then the company has to set up a time to come. Normally, they will do that but sometimes it takes a couple of days before they do that.

The contractor fixed the problem with my air conditioning unit. But my problem were two things. Number one, the workers seemed very rushed from getting from one customer to the other. They used my hose and never put it back on the reel. They also left part of the panel for the air conditioning unit on the floor. They were not neat. It's a minor thing but they should be a little more professional when they do things. Number two, there was major problem with the AC unit. They found a second issue. Though the AC is working, they found an issue with the air handler inside it. They said that they'd have to consult American Home Shield to see if they would pay for the repair. They said that American Home Shield would pay for the part, which is some kind of valve. However, they had to replace the freon and the freon was $845. I said off the bat that was highway robbery.
We had a dishwasher claim and that was handled better. That company operates a lot better and is a lot more professional. They’re based in Lakeland, Florida. The repairman came in and needed a part. He didn't have it on the truck so he said he had to order it. He ordered it then he came and fixed it. All of that was included in my $125 out of pocket so I thought that was well worth it. I was very happy with AHS with that service. However, for the air conditioning unit, it's the second time that this has happened. The other AC guy that came before to fix a problem was more concerned about selling me a new unit than fixing my air conditioning unit. These air conditioning guys seem like a bunch of scammers. American Home Shield could do a better job screening companies that come out.

American Home Shield's service is working great. We've used it several times. We have had the air conditioner worked on. I got a new dishwasher and a new microwave. Everything's worked out well. They held up their part of the contract. I haven't had a lot of trouble. Recently, a tech from Foltz Electric came out and he worked well. He shouldn't really do everything I needed them to do because some of it was on a garage that wasn't attached to the house, and he said that that wasn't covered. There was like a light bulb thing that broke off in there, and he did take those out for me. So, that was nice. He was a very nice man.
I did have trouble with my air conditioner. My air conditioner was a weird fix, and they had to come out a couple more times. They finally got it fixed but the last time they came out, my thermostat was still not working. So, the air conditioner guy said it was the plumbing that came down the line and goes out if that little line is filled up with water and hits like a little sensor. He said it was a problem with the line in my bathroom on the first floor of my house. He said, "You're gonna need a plumber to blow that line out. I've blown as far as I can do. So you got something else." He set it all up for me. He called American Home Shield and told them to send me a plumber. American Home Shield found the plumber. The plumber came out and fixed it. They went above and beyond. They were amazing, and the plumbing people were very nice as well. Everybody I've had out has been really great to work with.
I lived in a very small town in the middle of West Texas. There weren't that many contractors. So, I don't know if I would recommend thee company to someone that was in a small town. As far as in a place that’s got more people, it seems like there are more contractors available that signed up to be providers. So, I have not had a problem. I did have to buy a microwave at Lowe's and pay for someone to put it in but it was during COVID, so everything was kind of weird. It wasn't easy to find people to come in to your house but it worked out fine. I got it replaced and put a new one in, and AHS sent me the money.

I open the icebox up and the light wouldn’t come on. It seemed the freezer was thawing out and everything in the icebox was freezing. I did a claim with American Home Shield and they told me the name of the company that would be calling me. Their tech walked in the door and listened to what I had to say. He was friendly and he knew what he was doing. He then went to his truck, came back in, and did something with a magnet of some sort and reset the icebox.
He explained what he was doing and told me that the reason the food in the freezer was defrosting and he said that the reason the icebox was freezing was because the door wasn't sealing well. There’s a magnet at the door that has to touch itself. There was something that fell in there and it interfered with doing it, which was making the freezer try to keep the icebox going. That caused the cold air from the freezer to not freeze the food. It was a simple fix if you knew what you're doing, which was something I didn't know. He did everything he could and it was awesome.

American Home Shield, overall, is okay. But I just had an issue yesterday with my AC not working. And we spent a lot of back and forth. It's causing a lot of delay. I have the premium plan, and I pay thousands of dollars every six months, but I'm not getting the service I deserve or need. AHS has a strange process for me. Because, yesterday, I had called up one of their agents, and I told them that the vendor that they provided me has a date that is only available a week out. And I said, “Can you try to call someone else who has an earlier appointment?” He said he could not and he speaks with this particular vendor. And he couldn't connect to them yesterday on the phone, so he asked me to call up again in the morning today for AHS.
I didn't understand why I had to call them again if the case was still open. But he said, “No, sir. You have to call us again. And then we can contact the vendor again.” So, I told him that the case is already opened. He can just speak with them. It just went back and forth. And he said, “That's all the process is.” But their process is too stringent. At least for the premium customers, they have to offer a higher level of support, because we pay a lot of money. And it's a question of kids getting a heatstroke, so it was very important. But I didn't see that sense of urgency or the extra service for the premium customers yesterday.
The roofing company that we had, the vendor came out within 24 to 48 business hours, which was great. But the first time the vendors came, they couldn't diagnose the problem. And they left without informing us about anything. And there was no contact or follow-up from AHS to see if our issue was resolved or not. I called them again. And they sent a different agent. And the next time, it all worked out. AHS was great in that case because they took care of the entire roof and all of the expenses associated with it, which was paid. So, I expected the same service this time around.

I felt American Home Shield was a better coverage. I had the contractor come out and do an AC tune-up, and based off of that, there was some repair that needed to be completed. It was a capacitor that needed to be replaced. In the past, American Home Shield has assigned a different company. But I have had nothing but bad experience with them, so I will not use them.
The gentleman came out to evaluate the problem. I had missed a phone call from the tech letting me know that he would be on his way out. He detested to leave a voicemail, nothing like that. So, when I had an opportunity to look at my phone and be, "Oh, I have a missed call. I wonder who this is." Gave the contractor a call back and the gentleman said, "Well, I'm not in your area anymore. You should have answered your phone." The professional thing to do when you call a customer is leave a voicemail or call back. That was a bad taste in my mouth. When he did come out, it was, "Well, I don't know what to tell you. I can't diagnose something if it's not happening." He didn't want to do anything. It was a bad experience. I called the warranty and said, "I'm done with this contractor, you guys need to turn somebody else out. I don't ever want them in my home again."
They sent out Crispy Air. They evaluated my unit. They went up to the attic to evaluate what was going on up there. This other provider didn't do any of that. He was just outside, "Look, there's nothing going on. I can't tell you if there's something wrong if there's nothing going on." Crispy Air has been the company that has come out since I let the warranty know that the previous one in my home. And anytime they have come out to do any service or repairs, I've never had any issues.
Every time I need something done or checked out for the AC unit, I have to call AHS because their system automatically assigns that contractor that I don't want at the house. And when I call, they would say, "Okay, we assigned a contractor." "No, I don't want them. I want Crispy Air at the house, because I've had a good experience with them." And they have to change the contractor on their end, versus me just doing it online myself.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

American Home Shield is convenient. I like being able to just go on the web and set up appointments. They’re pretty quick about that. They have a good web response system. Sometimes, the vendors that they contract with aren't the best but in general, we've had pretty good luck with the people that have come out to deal with any of the problems and any repairs that we needed. J-Tech was excellent. They came out twice. Once, something was malfunctioning, and they were able to get a part and fix it. The second time, we had water buildup. Something wasn’t draining properly. It was an emergency, and they got somebody out here very quickly.
In general, AHS has worked out pretty well. There was just a minor misunderstanding. We had a free-standing ice maker, and they decided that wasn’t covered. In my mind, it should have been, because it’s one of the appliances in the house but they decided since it wasn’t specifically listed, they’re not gonna cover it. Overall, I'd recommend them. They've been pretty good for us.

We had a clogged bathroom sink. I did a claim with Home Shield and it was through a person, which I regret. They're not English-speaking people so they're hard to understand. In my experience talking to people in other countries and living in other countries, you have to phrase things differently to get your point across. It was extremely painful to talk to those people.
I had been calling Home Shield for a year and I document everything in my little notebooks. I called Home Shield seven times for a year and we never got any attention. They kept saying that no one in my area was qualified. They wanted me to find the person to come out, pay them then hope for a reimbursement. I refused to do that as I couldn't afford that. I had my son-in-law call and he did his man voice. Within no time at all, American Home Shield contacted Brick Street Plumbing. They were out very quickly and were very professional and knowledgeable. They were excellent all the way.
I have another claim with American Home Shield right now for my kitchen sink. For some reason, we're having problems with our drain. The garbage disposal is attached to the kitchen sink. I was told that according to Article G-6 in my contract or A-2, they don't touch kitchen sinks. I asked if the garbage disposal was covered. They said it was. When I made the rep go back, I said, "Now, I want you to go through whatever paperwork you got there and I want you to find what article says that the garbage disposal is covered." This was a three or four-hour process. We went to the garbage disposal and the rep said something about the competency and part. I asked what competency meant and she couldn't tell me. That's the only thing that was covered. It's incompetent if it doesn't work.
The rep was trying to give me the runaround and then said, "But the garbage disposal replacement is not covered." I've been playing tag with Brick Street Plumbing. I called Brick Street Plumbing and they said, "That doesn't make sense because we've replaced garbage disposals for Home Shield." The Home Shield people are liars and they're making stuff up. On the whole, I wouldn't recommend them to an enemy. I would love to find a home warranty company that doesn't have foreign speakers and can actually do what we pay them for. We paid over $700 for the year and now it's up to almost 1,000.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

When I got to where I could call, it was Monday when I spoke with my daughter about it. I was still out of town when the tech first came, which was Tuesday, and he left the top off one of the pipes. He put it on the next day and I was here then. When it comes to Pronto, I am very pleased with their service. We had an issue with our kitchen sink that needed repair. They came out about that repair. The diagnosis was on time. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law, who does not speak English, was in the house. They returned so they could communicate to know where was the issue. And when they returned, everything was done promptly.
My last request was on Saturday morning. I did not like that agent. She seems not to know what she’s doing. Because I mentioned the garage door needs a repair, and she said my policy does not cover garage door. I said, “Yes, it does.” She said, “We don’t do assembly.” I don’t know where assembly would come from that because we're not building a house. So, I had to be patient to say, “It's the garage door opener.” And there’s nothing else in the garage door to be dealt with when it comes to repair. She was talking about assembly. I was not pleased with that observation.
I said, “It's an emergency,” and she said it's not classified as one. Because what happened was, the garage was stuck halfway. And we were going to spend the night in our neighborhood. We see garage with cars and everything left open, and they did not want to classify that as an emergency. And she kept on reading back the script to me. I said, “If you could get someone from a different zip code to come over the weekend.” Because the agent which worked with us for the garage door was closed on Saturday. But she said there are others that may be open but they are not in my zip code. And because she already sent that request. And what was very disturbing was, she said, “I sent it, and I sent an email.” I said, “But they are closed. You just said they are closed on Saturday.” But that was my first time finding somebody who was just reading his script. That was just this Saturday. But apart from that incident, I usually get a good service.
American Home Shield may have a new agent that probably needs more training. But I’ve been with them for so many years. And sometimes, they get some bad third-party to do their place. There was an American Bestway that was terrible, but that’s not on them. And I was pleased when I tell them I don’t want American Bestway to come to my house ever again. They can sell them, and they replace it, which I was pleased with. They respond promptly. So, they are doing their job, so far. And everything they do, I agreed on, before the $100, to do the deductible for 100 bucks. So, they always come through. Saturday was a unique experience. You can really see somebody very new who really needs training.

I called in a claim to American Home Shield and three different people came out. The last one, R&K, was the one that was able to do the repair work for me. Once their tech got to my house and found out what the issue was, he told me and showed me what it was. Once he tore the heating element down, it had a lot of holes in it and it had rusted. The heat was not going in the house. Part of it was going outside of the unit. He said he had to go back and get the parts approved and ordered. About two weeks later they called and told me they had the parts and that they were ready to send someone out to put them in place. They came out and replaced the heating element that had all burned out in my air conditioner and heating unit.
Everything is functioning fine now. The tech had to come back because of a wire. Once he put the heating unit in there, I couldn't get my HC to work the next day. The tech found out a wire had burned loose on the cap. Once he clipped that and put that back together, I haven't had any issues. I'm well satisfied with them. I would recommend them.
I have used American Home Shield several times and they always try to find someone. If someone said they couldn't do it, they would try to find someone that could. There were a couple of times that the contractor didn't return the call back like they were supposed to have done. One of the contractors claimed they tried to call me but if they had done that, I would have gotten a message. Other than that, I've gotten good service from American Home Shield.

He knew what codes from the first time and what the problem was. We're still waiting on a part which is delayed. But for my recent plumbing claim, I don't know whether it's on the AHS' side, the person dispatching the claim contact or the online form, needing to ask a few more questions because the service technician that was sent out was not qualified to make a repair.

I had a leak in a pipe and the repair person told me exactly what he was doing. It went very well, and I was pretty pleased, which is not always the case with American Home Shield.
I had multiple trouble tickets on my HVAC. I eventually had to come out of pocket $36,000 to replace them both. They would repair, repair, repair and never replace it because it was no longer functioning. Also, some of the parts that they replaced it with were remanufactured parts, which apparently is a no-no. In fact, in some of these instances, they're even unauthorized. I'm a bit disappointed, and the challenge is there are not that many organizations like this. The PVC pipe that's on the side of the water heater was leaking on my floor. It was easy to submit a claim online with American Home Shield. I was given the name and the telephone number of the company that will come to do the service. A technician came and explained everything and why that happened. He had to change a little ball thing that sits on top of the water heater. It takes the excess pressure off of the water heater. He also replaced the relief valve. The water heater is operating fine now. On the whole, I would tell others to get American Home Shield. I had a claim issue with them this morning and that's the first issue that I've ever had with them in 22 years. They didn't handle things the way I wanted them to. But they did the best that they could.

I like that the American Home Shield reps are very helpful on the phone, and they’re courteous and get on it very fast. When the service people came, they were on time and very good. They took care of the problem, and everything went okay. I recommended American Home Shield to my sister, and she got it also. I’d tell people to definitely go for it as well. It is worth having it. It pays off to have peace of mind that if anything will break, they will send somebody right away to take care of your problem.

I needed my dishwasher repaired. But I'm still waiting for it to be done. It's going on two weeks. So, it's a lengthy process getting things approved. A technician came out, stated that he needed parts ordered. And he submitted a request to American Home Shield. We've been waiting for a little over a week now for them to approve so he can come back out and complete the job. AHS has always been like that. They take a while to approve requests. They should improve on their turnaround.

I call American Home Shield for my claims and the process is pretty difficult. I usually leave my phone number and name and they call me back. I did one claim and techs came out. The first tech checked the refrigerator and thought it was one thing. He was nice but he didn't really do a whole lot of checking on the refrigerator. I just told him what it was doing. He said that it was both parts and that he would go and get them. He got the parts two weeks later and put the parts on. But that did not fix the issue. I wasn't really happy at first because we had no refrigerator for almost a month.
A different guy came out the second time and he was nice as well. He said that the compressor was bad and that it was going to cost way too much money to fix my refrigerator since it was as old as it was. He talked to the lady in the claims office and they decided to let me find a new refrigerator. They gave me a list that I could go off of. But by the time I found one that I halfway liked, it was not available. It's really hard to find a refrigerator that was equal to what I had for $1,000 or $1,100.

We had water leaking from a faucet. The experience of submitting the claim to American Home Shield was terrible. The person I talked to could barely speak English. She was very dismissive and wasn't listening to what I was saying. They got the totally wrong location. They thought a faucet was leaking inside the house and not outside the house. All kinds of information was wrong about the whole thing. I was really frustrated at the end of that call because I didn't know if they knew what I was talking about.
That aside, the contractor we got was wonderful and we were really happy with them. I take them to the problem, they were able to look at it and present me with a few different options. They didn't know if they'd be authorized to do one of the options, even though it was the better way to go. One option would have us ripping out our fireplace, which would be a huge mess. The other was rerouting it so it came out somewhere else which was simpler and easier for everybody. They had to do a follow-up and we didn't hear back right away. They contacted us recently and said they had authorization. We made a plan to go forward with that, which is great. Everyone's happy with it.
We also had one or two instances that we used the home warranty for our dishwasher. We had somebody come in and they were great. The whole experience was so smooth and we decided to renew. But we had a claim where it was an emergency for us but the response was very slow. I had to shut off all the water in the house and it was several days before we could get anybody here. I knew one of the contractors I talked to said he was available on Monday. For whatever reason, he wasn't booked. He got busy and we didn't see anyone until Tuesday or Wednesday. Luckily, we were able to solve the massive leakage and we could turn the water back on in our house. Overall, I was generally pretty happy with the exception of that one incident.

In the rare times that I've American Home Shield, it was either very easy to use or it's been challenging because I don't hear back and I don't know who to go back to. I used them when there were some noises coming out of the electrical panel and it sounded like it was a fire hazard. The techs that came were knowledgeable and fast.
I would love to see some improvement with American Home Shield. I would like to have more understanding of the coverage. You go online and you look at your coverage details but it's not very self-explanatory. I had a plumber come out a year ago and they installed a new faucet. But it was hard, not cute, and it was just, “This is what you get.” I would love to have the opportunity to say, “If AHS will cover $50, do you want to upgrade so that I don't have an ugly thing in my kitchen and I'll pay the difference?” That aside, I called their customer service because I didn't understand what was going on and the rep was really good.

I love the claim submission process of AHS. It’s so much better now. I don't have to call anymore. Everything is online and you get text messages and emails, and you can respond to the text messages and emails. You don't have to wait on the phone anymore. It’s smart now. If you go in right back to back, it will link up and remember that you had just had that done. It escalates it on its own now. You don't have to try to figure out how to tell it or put it in and then have to get on the phone and say, “I put it back in but this is for the same issue so that you can escalate it.” It says, “I noticed that this is already done before. Please add extra notes.” Also, when I log in, all three properties are there. I don't have to log into separate accounts. It's all in one spot. I can just switch from one property to the next.
The air conditioner stopped working for my recent claim. The fan was blowing but on the inside, the handler wouldn't come on and blow the cold air. It was really awesome this time because the guy called but I was running late and I said, “I can unlock the door remotely.” By the time I could get there, he said, “You can turn around. I know what the problem is. You can lock the house back up.” I turned around and went back to work. The motor needed to be replaced.
The system sent me an update. It's cool now because before, you got multiple emails. You got an email from American Home Shield and an email from the vendor. But this time, the email came from American Home Shield, even though it was the vendor, so you only had to look for one email address now. It said American Home Shield as the sender, but then the information was from the vendor, so that way it was easy to keep up with.

We're in our infant stages with American Home Shield and so far, so good. Their service, in terms of the format and the layout, is much better. I was with another company and I switched. When American Home Shield bombarded me with six or seven emails, I called in and asked what it was. They said it was a free service they offer to premier customers to have their contractor come out and do a check of my system. They usually do a fall and spring check on the system.
The contractor they sent out was great. My only negative comment would be the fact that they couldn't pinpoint when the tech was going to be there. I was told it was going to be a four-hour window. I understand that service providers default to the four-hour window because they don't want you to call them every 10 minutes. If they say they're going to be at one o'clock and it's 1:15, the old people are going to be on the phone hounding them. But if they can provide a shorter window, that would be beneficial because I'm waiting for them.

I wasn't pleased when I called initially because American Home Shield was steering me to ProConnect. I've had experience with ProConnect and I've had a lot of questions about them but no one has been able to answer my questions. The first time I reached out to American Shield, I was recommended based on an email that I received from American Shield that ProConnect was offering this service for my dryer to be vacuumed. I assumed, receiving this email from American Home Shield, that they were part of American Home Shield, or they were recommended. To my surprise, it was not.
It was supposed to be a cost of $99 but we normally pay 79 for these visits. When the technician arrived, he said $103 and some cents. I begin to question him and he said, “We are not part of American Shield.” I decided to go ahead and let him back in my dryer. I gave him the check for $99. My dryer did not work after that service. I called American Shield to tell them my issue. I told them I used ProConnect based on their recommendation and their email directly to me. I also told them that perhaps I should reach out to ProConnect again. Whoever was on the phone thought that was a good idea, to get rid of me.
I reached out to ProConnect again. They came back out and that turned into a $260 cost. This young man who came to do this work contacted the office. I asked, “Are you a sister company?” They assured me they were not. I said, “I don’t understand what you were doing interceding for American Home Shield?” Nobody could give me any direct answers. I paid this man his $260 after much discussion between the office and the young man who was here to do the work. I told him, “Going forward, I will not use your service again, even if it means changing my own home warranty.” They were so sorry and left.
I called American Home Shield for my air conditioning unit and they sent me directly to fill out some form. This form was an agreement with ProConnect. I called again and asked, "Is ProConnect and American Home Shield one company now?” They assured me that was not true. But they couldn't go forward with my request for my AC check for the spring because I would need to give ProConnect permission. I called American Home Shield again. I said, “Let me take a look at what it is you want me to give permission for.” There was a lengthy form that I was supposed to read and agree to and sign. I called again and told them, “I will not do that and if I don't get any satisfaction about this, my contract is up in September, and I will not be renewing it.”
I finally got an appointment with Piedmont but I'm still unhappy about that whole situation with ProConnect. The most difficult thing with American Home Shield is in communicating. You reach entirely too many automated services and sometimes, you need to speak with a live person. Then when you get a live person, sometimes, there is difficulty in understanding what it is they're trying to say to you, and they are having trouble understanding what you are trying to say to them. They're always polite but there's a difficulty with the language.

Five years ago, when I bought the house, we got American Home Shield. By the end of the first winter, we had already used it and decided that it was well worth the expense to keep it. So, we've used it two or three times. Recently, the disposal disintegrated. The contractor was very nice and helped me get it explained to the supervisor so that they didn't have to open up a second work order. And they took care of it. Since initially it wasn't covered under my policy, I upgraded the policy while the plumbers were on their way to the house. It worked out well.
When we upgraded the policy, I gave AHS a credit card and paid for it right then and there. And for the next couple of weeks, I kept getting phone calls saying, “Oh, no. It didn't go through. You still owe us $100.” I said, “Oh, no. It went through, I guarantee you.” So, they spent about an hour talking with my wife. And I believe it has been resolved. I upgraded for all my appliances now. Living here in Maryland, having a well, it does things to your appliances that I never knew about. So, it gives us a bit of peace of mind that all this stuff is accounted for. And we're just gonna hang in there with it.

American Home Shield’s prices have gone way up but they're excellent and that's why I keep them. In the last 15 years, they've replaced every major part of the pool, so it saved me a lot of money on all the equipment. Lately, the companies that they have been referring me to have not waited long to call. They’ve called us and got to it straight away, and the people they use are very good. Alliance called like an hour after my order was turned in, and the tech showed up a half-hour later and fixed my problem. He had the part he needed and installed it right away.
The only problem I ever had with AHS was when my furnace went out. I had the furnace company in town here look at it. They said, “Oh, it's no good. You've got a leak in your firewall and all that. It has to be replaced.” American Home Shield wouldn't do anything about it and when they sent somebody out, he wouldn't even look at it. So, they should have paid for it, and they didn't cover anything. Other than that, I’ve never had a problem with them. One of the companies they send out to service my pool has done an excellent job. But when we were having some problems with the microwave, they said they couldn't work on it. Other than that, I like American Home Shield. It's worth it, especially if it's a house that's older and might need something in the future and it might save money to spread it out over time. I like knowing that we're covered.

The last time that I called American Home Shield was for a leak in a bathroom. Then I called the company that was recommended, Mister Plumber, and they said I had to be more specific about the leak. So they sent the guy over. I paid $75 for it, and said, “I need somebody to tell me where the leak is, if it's coming from a ceiling or something. I don't know if it's coming from faucets.” He called and they told me faucets are not covered. Then he did tell me that there was a leak in the bathroom in one of the toilets. But he also gave me a quote of how much it was to do everything.
I called American Home Shield back, and they assigned the same company again. I paid another $75. I didn't like the way that turned out. I paid the guy myself $89 to come out and see whatever they can do. I got American Home Shield to come out and fix the leak. The same company fixed it. But I paid too much money trying to find out if it was a mistake. I went through a little bit of jumping through many hoops. But everything's okay now.
American Home Shield is expensive. I’m paying 60 a month. It used to be $50 for a service charge but now, it's 75. But I've been happy when it's worked. It's just that sometimes you got to go through a lot of red tape, especially if it’s something very expensive. We wanted a cash out with the problem last time. But the cash out was half of whatever it would have cost.
American Home Shield sent out a company that said I had to pay them $850 to bring everything up to code. But six months before it, something else happened and I paid that much for up to code. They said every time they came out, they had to make sure things were up to code. I got somebody to put it up, make sure it was up to code, and then I called back. It took so much time, and it was freezing and we had no heat.
Years ago, the girl in the problem-solving section told me that she remembered my case because she got promoted. So she kind of knew what I was talking about. She gave me the next time free because there was a mix-up, and they messed up something. They said, “The next time you have anything, remind us that you have a credit.” So I did and they used it. American Home Shield has helped me with other things. But the main reason in the back of my mind is the expense of a central air system and heat that I might end up having to pay, which I don't have the money for.

We rarely use American Home Shield but we've had about four incidents within the last two years and they've been wonderful. There was one time when the contractor didn't call me and I called AHS back and they canceled him and got me another one that same day. It was really good. The digital panel on my double oven went out. We didn't know what was wrong with it until after somebody fixed it. I called him on FaceTime so he could order the part to look at my stove. He came out two days later, replaced the part, and I've been in business since. We also had a leak upstairs. I did the claim online. Somebody came out and fixed it. Home Shield calls and follows up.
Then, we had a big issue. We had water coming from a pipe in the laundry room in the basement and we called them and found out it was internal and external of the house-type problem. Fortunately, we had Homeserve also. So, they worked together and they came out at the same time and they took care of everything. I went without water for nine days, though. I have two properties. So, we have two accounts with Home Shield and we've also used the one in Ohio and I'm in Maryland, which is seven hours away. They should have sent the right people the second time. I spent all day waiting for the second service people. They came in, looked at the issue and said they couldn't do it either. I had to wait for another one. A third appointment was made and these people were very difficult to meet. I was waiting and they couldn't make it. I wasted three days and so far, nothing has happened. I had a very bad experience. I'm still waiting for the right people to come.
I have another house and I canceled that home warranty because service people don't come on time. They tell me it's going to be three or four days when that other house needs urgent work on the same day or the next day. I end up buying a new stuff myself. I didn't find the warranty to be useful. Our garbage disposal stopped working so we put in a claim. We did American Home Shield's process online and in a day or two, a contractor called to schedule an appointment. They didn't have the part and they had to get a whole replacement piece. Their tech came back a second time and installed a new garbage disposal.
Aside from that, we had previous repairs with American Home Shield. A year ago, I had my HVAC system break down and there was some confusion about the whole process. But in the end, it was fixed. There are also some things that aren't covered for various reasons. If you don't read all of the fine print, you may find that things aren't covered. The sump pump broke in my house that they said was not covered because of the way it was hooked up.
It would be better if American Home Shield did a better evaluation process early on when you sign up to tell you exactly what is and what is not covered so that you have a better idea of what your coverage is. That way, you don't have to guess by reading every little tiny detail in the contract. When you ask them over the phone, it’s very general. It would be more transparent if you knew ahead of time. On the whole, the monthly fee of American Home Shield is a little expensive but it's worthwhile if you have appliances that are aging and could potentially break or need to be replaced.

He was very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly.
I spoke to a representative when I did the claim to AHS, I had a very hard time with her. I hate when they get these foreigners that can't speak very good English, and you can't understand. I asked her if I could talk to somebody else, and she would not give me to anyone else. I called back a second time, and I got her again. I said, “Not you again,” and I hung up. I told my daughter, and so she called, figured that if she didn't see the same phone number, maybe we'd get something else. We got a better person when my daughter called them.

I submitted the claim online, and then I called up American Home Shield. The girl who answered the phone was the one who scheduled everything. She was okay. The E & A techs were good. They were professionals and they went straight to working. They checked the thermostat right away and then they went out in the back to check the unit. They cleaned the unit, too. The only thing is I've asked for my contract several times, and they've been telling me they will mail it. The thing with American Home Shield is that they're not directly responsible for the repair, but they reroute to their subcontractors. So the service depends on the type of subcontractor you get. Sometimes, they won't be so nice. But most of the time, they've been nice. When I have a claim, I go online and it's pretty easy to use. It's pretty detailed and straightforward.

The pipe underneath the bathroom sink was leaking. No matter how many different things I tried from Home Depot, it kept leaking. So, I called American Home Shield, and Shawn came out. He fixed it. Then 10 minutes after he left, it started leaking again. That was a Friday. We called back on a Monday. They put Shawn on a different job up in New York. So, they had another guy come out. I kept messing with it and it finally stopped leaking. I called off the next appointment. A couple of days later, it started leaking again. Now, we have a new appointment and the guy is coming out tomorrow between 2:00 and 6:00.
Submitting a claim to AHS is fairly easy. The contractors are good. The only problem I have with them is when you do have an appointment, it’s not written in stone. Sometimes, they’ll call you back and change the appointment on you. They’ve done that a couple of times. We were supposed to have an appointment this morning between 8:00 and 10:00, but Melissa called us back, about an hour later and she said that appointment has already been taken. "Next appointment I can give you is Friday afternoon, anywhere from 2:00 in the afternoon to 6 o’clock at night." So, that’s the appointment that we have right now.

We set up one appointment, and the first technician broke down. I canceled that 'cause of my schedule, and we had to wait another week. After that, finally, another technician from Hornet showed up. He was there 20 minutes and checked, but it was just excuses about why they could not do what they were supposed to do. My refrigerator is not properly making ice, so the technician said there are several things that have to be fixed. However, he can't fix them because he can't figure out which model that particular refrigerator is, therefore, it's unfixable. The refrigerator's been in and out for almost three weeks, and no one has followed up. The only one I've ever spoken to is the call center, and they try their best to help.
I spoke to the call center last week and told them what the technician told me figuring that someone would follow up and tell me, "Hey, we're gonna be able to replace your refrigerator," or "We're gonna be able to fix it and we'd like to do it as quickly as possible." No one has done so and this was a horrible start for American Home Shield's first month on me. Let alone if something serious broke in my home and it was freezing outside and my heater went out, how long would I have to wait? The whole purpose of having a home warranty was for me to have convenience, and instead, it's been excuses and no answers. I work for a major company called Mercedes-Benz, and I can't do that on a customer's car, because that's what they drive. Follow-up is very important. This really irks at me because it's unacceptable. If it's a vendor problem, American Home Shield should get a new vendor.
Today, I haven't had the time to sit down and waste another hour talking to a call center. It's horrible that they have to do that. They should have someone who works for the company answering our calls, like we do at Mercedes-Benz. We're a bigger company than they are, and we're able to manage to do that and try to exceed the customer's expectations. That's not happening with American Home Shield. My thought today was I'm gonna call and cancel my services.
They're not providing great service, unless somebody calls me today and tells me, "Hey, we're gonna replace your refrigerator, find out what the costs involved are." American Home Shield should give me a process that I need to follow, so I can get my refrigerator either repaired or replaced. It's really that simple, and it hasn't come down to that. It's all been, "We'll get back with you next week. We'll call you tomorrow." Meanwhile, my refrigerator's sitting there with my food in it, and no one really cares, because they don't live in my home. I do. I'm being held at bay, because it's my freezer, and I need an answer. Either they're gonna fix it or not, and if they're not gonna repair or replace it, they should refund me my home warranty so I can get a company that will do what I need to do when I need it done.
American Home Shield should be more in touch with the client as well. At Mercedes-Benz, we get an email survey on our clients within five days of them buying a car. Good or bad, the reality comes out. AHS should do the same. If they were to send me a survey three days after I got someone appointed to come to my house, they would know by now that I'm an unhappy customer and try to fix it, but they have not done so. It's unsatisfactory when it comes to their services.

There have been four separate calls and the guys that AHS sent last month, I called right after they left because the tech said that the water wasn't going through the line and that wasn't true. When he was in the home, there were adults that were communicating with him. He went out to his truck and never came back.
Also, when we opened the door to the refrigerator, the drawer was broken. I called AHS to report that. Not only are my water dispenser and refrigerator not working but I have a broken drawer as well. I requested another company to come and fix it and nobody has come yet. Most of the time, I get good customer service but I wouldn't recommend the technicians AHS sends sometimes. Usually, the contractors are pretty quick with coming out. In some cases, it's a few weeks out. But for more critical situations, they will do what they can to come out quicker. But it would be great if American Home Shield would do a proper review of the companies that come out to perform these services. For example, the gentleman that came by to do some work on the washer and dryer recently, it seems like people had good things to say about them. But most recently with the plumbing issue, I looked at that company and nobody seemed to say good things about them.

American Home Shield has sent a contractor to come out. I still have two outstanding issues that haven't been repaired. I'm waiting for that to be resolved. It has been about a week for both issues. So, I have two tags. One of them was for a repair that the contractor came out a couple of 6 weeks ago to fix, but the problem is still there. It’s a leaky tub. They had somebody come out and they replaced some parts. And supposedly, it was fixed, but the tub was still leaking, so they came out a second time last week. And the tech said that they needed to order a part, that they would contact me about when they would come back out again. But I haven't heard back from them.
And this last week, we also had someone come out to look at our fridge which stopped working. And I'm still waiting to hear any more response as far as what the next steps are on that. They said that a part needed to be ordered and it’s most likely gonna be fixed by the manufacturer. But I haven't heard follow-up on either of those things. The first and second guy were both courteous. My only complaint at this point is that I haven't heard back from them about having them come back out to fix the problem.

My air conditioner went out over the weekend and Arctic AC did a great job. They showed up on Monday, fixed it and it was ready to go. The tech fixed what needed to be fixed. American Home Shield worked out great for me. When I call in, they have someone come out right away. I've had no real problems. As far as with any service, everyone has done a great job and if they couldn't fix the problem, like with the dishwasher, they got a new one.

I had a wonderful experience with American Home Shield at a house I had before. I had an old washer and dryer and there was a repair that needed to be done. The repair people ordered a part and when they were trying to fix it, they broke something else that pretty much rendered it inoperable and put it in for replacement. They gave me a new one, but my tenant at the time had to wait two weeks. He was mildly inconvenienced, because he had to come upstairs, but after that, it was fine.
Home warranty companies have varying reputations, and American Home Shield’s reputation is at the top of their peer group. That's how I feel from personal experience as well as what I've always told people. I'm a real estate agent. I've also often had very good interactions when I've had to deal with anyone from the company. The people are very courteous. They seem to be knowledgeable about what their company can and cannot do. They take the time to educate you on things you can have as a claim and things that are not covered. That's both helpful for me, as well as my clients, when I'm explaining to people who often call me and say, “Hey, I have this issue. Is this something that American Home Shield covers?” I always start off with, “I don't work for American Home Shield. But these are things that they typically cover.” I also tell them, if they have questions, they can call American Home Shield or the regional account manager.

I was recommended to American Home Shield by one of my family members. I also recommend AHS if someone is in the area and needs a warranty. For years, I’ve had an ongoing issue with my garage not opening and closing without me having to either manually do it, or me having to press it and hold it down to override it to be able to go all the way down. The tech explained to me why he thought that the sensors were the fix. I was doing an override and it would work when I did the override. He waited until I did it from my garage door as well as from my car to make sure that all aspects were functional. I didn’t have any issues since.

Our hot water tank was busted and I did a claim for it. It was the worst experience I've ever had with American Home Shield. I paid the total amount that I needed to pay. It was $2,000 and they sent me $1,000 back. They refused to pay for the service to be done so I had to pay for it myself. We went a whole month without hot water and I had to call somebody that's supposed to call me back. I talked to the reps Dion, Omar, and Chantelle. They were supposed to call to rectify what was going on with that problem. They have yet to call me back yet.
The water from the hot water tank went down to my crawlspace and damaged it. I had to call a claim to my insurance company because American Home Shield will not contact me and there's mold and water down there. That has to be cleaned out. It was horrible. We got these little bugs that were coming up by the washing machine. I had Terminix come and check it all out and it ended up the tech went under the crawlspace and it's all damaged. We're breathing in the mold and it's wet down there. I wish that American Home Shield would do something about it or compensate me. Now, I need somebody to check because they're seeing that I canceled my policy. I do want to cancel my policy but I don't want to cancel it until this is all taken care of. I want the water damage to get taken care of and get reimbursed.
The contractor they sent out was B&E and they were ignorant. They said they were coming and we were waiting for them for three days. They then canceled and said they couldn't come because American Home Shield won't pay them for what they have to get, which was the water tank. I had another claim with American Home Shield and the tech that came out for the circuit breaker was excellent and he fixed that issue. I'm also trying to get American Home Shield to send someone to come and do my air conditioner and do the air filter. But I can't even get that because I need to get past this hot water claim first.
Carmen,
We do appreciate your feedback and apologize that this issue has caused you to cancel your warranty. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience, and hopes that you would consider joining the AHS team in the near future. Have a great day!

The hot water heater was leaking water. I went through the website and submitted the claim. But I would rather speak to someone before I have to pay $100 for something so I can get a better understanding as to what the charges are. The tech got out there and said, “Oh, yeah. The hot water heater needs to be replaced. But I have to charge you additional $1,400 out of pocket.” If American Home Shield would've told me beforehand that the only thing they were gonna cover was $380 for the water heater and that I was gonna have to put in all the supplies and all this kind of stuff and labor, I never would have submitted $100 claim because, to me, that was a waste of my money.
I told American Home Shield that I wanted to find somebody else to do the job. But they said they can only offer me $380 to purchase a hot water heater. I told them that I was dissatisfied with that because I went to Lowe's and the cheapest hot water heater starts at $600. The rep told me that it was only $380 because they buy stuff in bulk, and that's how they get the charge. This hadn't been a very good experience at all. I'm not going to continue to pay them a monthly rate and get the same feedback that I get.

We've had American Home Shield off and on at several of our properties over the years. They are inconsistent in terms of getting people out on time and the quality of the work. Sometimes it's excellent and sometimes it's not. For the last repair we had done, it was the third time we've had to have it done by three different people. One guy said it should be covered, the other guy said it wasn't and another guy said it should be covered. The first two times, we had to wait for days and it didn't get fixed. We were afraid that this last time we were going to have to wait for days. But they got somebody out there pretty fast.
When it's good, it's good. When it's inconsistent, it can be aggravating. When you do a claim online, you don't have a chance to say, "This is the third time it's been broken. Please don't send me back the same person." You're starting over every single time. If you don't call, you don't get a chance to talk to somebody to explain the situation. Whatever is wrong is not necessarily showing up in their little drop down box. They could have a box where a customer could explain what's going on. It would also be nice if a customer could get more than one thing done at a time without having to start over.

I just used American Home Shield for the first time. It has been within the last month. Everything was fine. They did what they said they would do. And they hired the company to come out and fix it, and that company wanted to be inclined to. I was pleased with it. When I called the AHS, I didn't go through the automated process because I had specific questions. And one was, "Hey, look. If I pay this, are they gonna call me to make an appointment and do all that stuff?" "Oh, yeah. That's what happens." It took a week, which I expected for somebody to call me back. They didn't. They called to tell me, "Hey, this is your appointment." I work full time. But it wound up working out where it was fine. That was my only hang up with AHS.
And the company that they used was super busy. It sounded like they probably do warranty work a lot for the home warranties. So immediately, when you call them, it goes to voicemail and it says, "Hey, we can't help you with this. We're waiting on parts." And they ran through everything. So that made me believe that they get a lot of inquiries. Which is fine. But I left a message and they sent me a text the next day saying, "Hey, we can make an appointment for you." So, I went back and forth with them that way just once or twice and they were responsive. And they showed up when they were supposed to. They looked at it. They evaluated it.
My wife said, "They're just going to replace it" because we have old pool equipment. But, "They're not going to replace it. They're just going to try and fix it." I said, "Yes. That's what they're supposed to do, if they can fix it. It's not their problem that it's old. They're responsible to make it work again.” And thatis what they did. So, they ordered the part in and they showed up. Once they diagnosed it, it was less than a week that they called to set up a new appointment and to come back and install it. They showed up on time that second time, very friendly and clean.

The only thing I don’t like about American Home Shield is that I’ve paid my bill even before it’s even due, but it’s saying that my bill is not paid. It’s automatically drafted out. I liked American Home Shield's plan versus the other providers. I used them when the thermostat was stuck on 65. It was cold and there was a loud noise coming through. A tech came out the same day and he said that it was just in lock-out mode and that it was fixed. Two days later, the problem happened again. I called American Home Shield. The first time, I paid the service fee. The second time, they took care of it because it was a callback. They sent the company back out. This time, it took a couple of days for the same guy to come out.
The second time the thermostat was locked on 75 and it was too hot. The guy was paying more attention. He changed out the thermostat and located the bane for me that wasn't furnace-related that I thought was furnace-related and walked me through the process. It was a good experience. I just wish the furnace guy would have done it the first time.
Also, the first time I called in the claim, it wasn't difficult. The second time, I had difficulties or wasn't too happy with the person I was talking to on the phone. I was having so much difficulty with them so I went online. With the second call, I wish it was a little bit more consistent. With the first call, American Home Shield was prompt and I was able to get the service request in and I got my email. The second time, customer service was really weird and brushed me off. That aside, American Home Shield is the best decision I made. Being a first time homebuyer, it gives you that peace of mind that you're protected and somebody's actually helping out just in case because you never know what could happen. When I thought my hot water heater was clogged because it was leaking underneath the water heater, a tech from Affordable Leak came out and said theyw ere going t have to order a hot water heater. He added that it had to be brought up to code. He gave me this bill that American Home Shield is not gonna cover and it was $1,800. He was triple charging me for things like the pan and the stand. This happened in the middle of April. He said, "We’ll get on it and we’ll make an appointment for May 16th.” That was three weeks away. That was not service. I felt like they were putting American Home Shield customers at the end of the line. We found the leak and I busted the concrete out then we called the other plumber. I like American Home Shield. They always answer the phone. It doesn't matter what time or what part of the day. Sometimes, customer service is hard to understand because they're in the Philippines. They don’t speak really good English and you have to really listen to what they’re saying. Sometimes, they don’t understand what you’re saying. But they always come through in the end and do a really good job. I would recommend American Home Shield to somebody that's worried about stuff like that going wrong. My experience with Jet Heat & Air was okay. My unit looked beat up 'cause it was old. The tech looked at it and decided something had fallen on it so it wasn't covered under the warranty as it wasn't a mechanical failure. I was like, "I guess I'm gonna have to use insurance to get this replaced." So I called my insurance and I started getting quotes from other HVAC companies around this area. Both of them that I went to told me very flatly, "Yeah. This is absolutely mechanical failure. You can see this thing came apart and then it got thrown around the inside, and it got thrown out the top.
That's why all these little pieces are outside the unit and not inside the unit." A fan blade had cracked because it's just so old and the crack got wider. It started cutting up the inside of the unit and then the fan blade broke off and got thrown out of the unit. So, I got a completely new unit. This is an ongoing problem with the microwave. This was my third microwave. We put in the same claim about being shocked. The guy came out and replaced the coil of one burner on the stove. American Home Shield didn't give us anything for the microwave. All the insulation on the cord of the microwave was burned off so you can see the copper wires in it. We took the appliance to where they told us to take it. They said there was nothing wrong with the microwave. They told us we could come and pick it up. We just left it there, and we bought another microwave. That one got defaced also. There are sparks flying off that thing. Whatever touches it, sparks fly like a 4th of July.
When I first noticed it happening, we were stirring in a pot. And you stand there and your arm may touch it, and you got a shock and you got away from it. And I placed a pan out of the oven on the top stove. It was wrapped in foil, and the foil touched the side of the microwave. It fused the bottom of the pan to the coil burner. And there was a hole in the pan. You have to pry the pan from the burner. We now don't use that side of the stove. I don't know if it's just the stove, or if the house isn't grounded right. I don't know what's going on.
The electrician put the tester in the outlet, and he put the tester on the stove and it lit up. So he said that it's the appliance. But my countertop looked like somebody put cigarettes out on them from the sparks flying when stuff touch it. The microwave I have now, its face got the stainless steel on it, that’s all crispy now. And my countertop has burnt spots where the sparks flew off once the current hit it. I was doing something that he just stood back. He said, “I wouldn't touch it.” Sometimes I can be stirring in the pot, and I can feel the current coming up the spoon.
The guy said he would say that it's the appliance, and I waited to see if anyone would get back with me about the claim that I put in. This has been going on for a while. When they call me back, or I'm gonna try to call them, I should not pay another $75 because my issue is ongoing. They haven't solved it. I want them to get out here and give me some results. My daughter has been with them for some years. And I had called them out before and I got response quickly. But if I can't get any results, I have to go somewhere else.

When I called American Home Shield and reported a problem, somebody reached out to me within two days. The tech came when he said he would. He checked out the issues and ordered the parts. When the parts came in, he called and said he was gonna come and put them in. He put them in. He was pretty good. There were several issues that he took care of. He got parts for the stove, the parts for the oven, the thermostat and the light. The light I thought just need a new bulb. It needs a new light switch. Then the burners would click, and he put a new sensor. When he took the wall-mounted microwave apart, there were some old parts in there that when he checked, they don't even make them anymore.
The guy put in a report. AHS sent me some money for the part to replace it but they are all on backorder. I can't get a new combination microwave and wall oven right now. They said it could be probably till the end of the year. When I get the new part, I’ll notify American Home Shield that the part is in. I got to show them that it's a new part and it has a warranty.

We're still in the middle of a claim on my dishwasher that went kaput. Some circuit board got fried on it. The guy told me it's gonna cost more to fix than to buy a new one. He also said that somebody from Home Shield would call me back. Now that I know how to work their system, AHS too many departments. I get transferred three times whenever I need to check on something. Other than that, they have done pretty good by us. They've done what they said they're gonna do. I'm a fan.

I love American Home Shield’s service. I had an air conditioner that they sent me an email saying that it probably needed to be serviced. It said that summer is coming and they would suggest that I don't wait until a full-blown summer and something goes wrong and the air conditioner goes out. So, we did some pre-maintenance things and everything was fine. The tech was very informative and it went very well. Having AHS is great because it takes care of all the small worries and some of the big ones.

I have three accounts with American Home Shield. I have with them my primary, my daughter's home, and a two-flat that’s also my primary. I pay for all these. American Home Shield was offering a free air cleaning for the air conditioner at my daughter's home. I had my daughter schedule it in March and then American Home Shield scheduled it in April. But they rescheduled. They said they had to wait until the temperature get to a certain temperature in order for them to test and get it cleaned. Earlier this month, they gave my daughter a call and said they had to cancel. They had to reschedule for the people that has no air and they had had to address them. I respected that.
I called my daughter today and told her that I keep getting these emails. So I asked her if they haven’t done her air conditioner? She said, “No, they rescheduled again.” I said, “Wait a minute. I know they rescheduled.” She said, “No, ma. They did it again.” I then asked her when is the schedule for now? Because they're supposed to come out this week for her. But they rescheduled it for next week. That’s stupid crazy.
I’ve been having problems with American Home Shield for my Lynwood location. I had them come out to do electrical work. The work order was to address two outlets in the house. My garage door wouldn't open up from the keypad electrical, and the light in the garage wouldn’t come on. The outlet in the garage was not working properly and I told them the light on the rangehood was not working. When the guy came out, he said, “Ma’am, I can address these outlets. But this rangehood, that's for appliance.” He said I would have to put in a call for an appliance guy to come out. He also said, “And as for the garage, for the light not coming on and not opening, it’s a garage door.” But I told him that it still deals with electric. He said, “No, ma’am. I’ll put it in for that. No problem.” So he did the two outlets.
When the garage guy came out, he said he didn't deal with the light issue. I told, "But they don’t come on when you open up the garage door. And we have problems with it opening up. Sometimes, the keypad don’t work.” As he was doing the job, he said, “You know, I’ll tell you what. It has to be at the point that it won’t open up. Now, it is sometimes. There’s not much we can do. But so far, it’s working. But you need to call for the electrician to come back out and address that light part you have.” So I called back American Home Shield and told them what the garage guy said. The lady put it in. It was supposed to be a recall. But when the guy came out, he gave me a bill. When he submitted, he said he had to put a light bulb in. But he never fixed the problem because I still have a shortage in the switch coming in and out. So I have a bill right now with American Home Shield, saying I owe them $100 for an electrician for coming out. But they’re trying to address it now because I’ve been dealing with that since February.
Today, I was on the phone with American Home Shield. I was also on the phone with them yesterday and a couple of weeks ago. It's just ongoing. This service stinks. They said that they would credit me $100. But I don’t want the credit. I want it removed all for there. I still can’t get the guy to come in to clean my furnace because that mark is on there.
For my building, I was having problems with the heater in November. I gave American Home Shield a call. Then somebody came out and took a look at it, and said they could do a couple of things. But American Home Shield denied it. So I told them that I wanted a second set of eyes on this. The second guy came out and told American Home Shield that this heater hasn’t been working for years. But I said, “Well, if it wasn’t working, how do you think I was getting heat in here for the last past years before y’all came about?” They said, “Well, ma’am, we have denied your claim.” So I had to pay about $8,000 to get the heating system put in. I was having the system put in around December but I have rusty pipes. In the American Home Shield contract, it says they address rusty pipes and leaks. My pipe is leaking and corroding now for my heating system. But they said it’s pre-existing.
At the same time that my heating system had to be replaced, I had a bad toilet leak. My son’s unit upstairs was leaking down the stairs into my bathroom. So the plumber came out and I had a water valve that was leaking real nice and slow. He put the wax ring on and replaced it because that was worn out, and then said he need to come back. He needed to get the approval to do the collar because it was going out on the toilet stack. American Home Shield approved that. But the plumber didn't come back.
By February, I gave American Home Shield a call and told them the plumber was supposed to come back out and fix the issue. He didn’t close the valve that he was supposed to fix for the water. He said he didn’t have it. He was going out to get it but never came back. American Home Shield said, “Ma’am, we have to give you escalation.” I told them that I was not gonna pay for the same thing twice. The plumber didn’t finish repairing what he came out to repair. So they allowed to waive that and call it as a recall. But the plumber didn’t come back out until March. He finally replaced the water valve and did the collar to the toilet. You can see where the water leaked in the ceiling downstairs on the first floor and American Home Shield covered to repair that. But it wouldn’t have been that bad if it had been addressed in December.
When that plumber came out to fix the gas leak, he did not put back on the shutoff valve and that was a health and safety issue. By law, you’re supposed to put a shutoff valve there before he walked away from my home. I said, “Wait a minute. Plumber, you didn’t put the shutoff valve on there.” But he said, “Oh, no, no, no. I’m too old for this. The gas people have to come out first and test it. Then, give me a call, and I’ll come back out.” So I called people gas and they came out and tested it. I told them that it doesn’t have a shutoff valve.” He said, “No, your plumber have to come back out and do it.” I said, “Okay, I know that. But I just want to see if you’ll agree to do it.” He told me no and that it didn’t make sense.
I called American Home Shield and told them about it and that I didn't want the plumber back in my house under any circumstances. Every time he came here, he did not complete his job. But American Home Shield said, “I’m sorry. We got to give it back to the same plumber.” I said, “Wait a minute. This makes no sense. You all know he’s not doing his job. You all see I'm constantly being inconvenienced.” They told me that they were sorry. But I told them, “That’s all you all ever say. But what good does that do? First of all, he’s jeopardizing me and my grandkids.”
I was breaking everything down to American Home Shield and then I told them to give me a supervisor. But they said, “Well, we can put in a request, but it's gonna take 24 to 48 hours.” I told them that I didn't care how long and just have someone give me a call. I ended up speaking with the supervisor who said, “Ma’am, I’m sorry, but there’s nothing we can do. We have to give it to him because he had the job.” I said that didn't make sense and gave them examples of how much of a health and safety issue this was.
My hot water tank went out on May 12 and I called American Home Shield. They gave it to Sears. Sears came out on the 18th and they said they didn't know what was wrong with it. But then, they reported back to them and said that it needed to be cleaned. But the problem is that the gas valve was worn out and the safety device on that gas valve is old and worn out over the years so it would not allow you to light it because that’s the safety mechanism on it. But Sears didn’t know how to report it. After they couldn’t do it, American Home Shield assigned it to S & C Heating and Cooling. I told them, “This is the HVAC company that you all are assigning it to. Call them and make sure that they do it, and that you all will pay them to do the repairs.” The young lady in the escalation department said, “Oh yeah, that’s not a problem. I’ll give them a call.” She gave them a call and then told me, “Yes, they’ll do it. It’s not a problem.”
I called the company and asked them if they replace or repair hot water tanks, and are they allowed to do it under American Home Shield. They said, “Sure, yes. We have the work order. The technician knows exactly what he needs to do when he gets there. But he has to take a look at it.” Then the technician got there yesterday and called American Home Shield but denied him to do the work. They said that it needs to be reassigned to a plumber. So my hot water tank is still not repaired or replaced.

I had Blizzard Air come out. They did fine. They were way backed up when I first called. It took them over a week to get here. They were supposed to do a tune-up, and that never happened because I turned on the AC and it didn’t work, so they came out and fixed some minor things and got it working again. So, it was a good experience.
I was a little displeased at first with Blizzard Air because they were non-responsive when it was the free checkup. But when I was a paying job, they seemed to mobilize a little bit faster. They get paid either way to do it. That was kind of what I took away from it. But other than that, they came out, they did what they needed to do, and got us moving in the right direction.
I like the range of coverage that American Home Shield gives. I used to have Fidelity, and Fidelity sucks in comparison. They would deny claims and things like that. As a homeowner, there's a lot of stuff that can go wrong in your house. What I appreciate about having American Home Shield is that they're there when you need them to be. That's a blessing.

I had an issue with my dishwasher. The first time American Home Shield sent a vendor out, their tech reset something. The second one was a GE vendor and they knew exactly what the problem was. They solved that right away and replaced a panel. But I had to pay a $75 service call two different times for the same issue because it wasn't within the 30 days. That 30-day call-in for the same issue should be extended for a lot longer time because it was probably 45 or 60 days in my case and I had to pay. That aside, my service with American Home Shield has been good. The challenging part is when I call for service and I have to speak to a rep. Unfortunately, they're not in the United States and sometimes there's a challenge with the language.

American Home Shield is on my mother's house. She has done all sorts of stuff with it, mostly plumbing issues she has had fixed. And every once in a while, air conditioning goes out. And for someone on a fixed budget, it certainly helps her. Submitting claims, for me, is easy. For her, it's difficult, because she is very hard of hearing. People with accents she doesn't do well with. So the majority of the time when AHS calls, it’s someone who has a very heavy accent, so it's difficult for her.
We've had one plumber that was terrible. Constantly didn't show, cancelled a few times. And one time, showed up at 9:30 at night to an 83-year-old person's house. So the next time we called and had to have a plumbing thing, we asked if there were other contractors available. And AHS found us someone else that could come out. AHS is a good product for my mother. It gives peace of mind that if anything major was to happen, we would be able to afford to get the system fixed.

My daughter recommended American Home Shield and she told me, "They helped me out and I think you need this." She said they would come through for me. I have the home warranty on two houses and I would highly recommend them. They have been really good. I was surprised. Most companies give you the runaround and I didn't think I would get faster service. I had two appliances go out and American Home Shield's contractor contacted me quickly. One appliance had to be replaced while the other had to be repaired. I also had a claim for my dishwasher because it started pouring out water from the door.
They sent out a service person and he fixed it. I was surprised because that dishwasher is probably 40 years old. I was afraid because I thought I was gonna go through the same process when I did a claim for my stove where I was made to wait two or three months. The burner kept going out on my stovetop and by the time I did a claim, I was told "They don't make those anymore." That was the hassle trying to replace my stove. It wasn't American Home Shield though, it was the store. As far as the dishwasher, the tech came out here and fixed it. I'm about to switch services because I don't like anything about American Home Shield. They raised my price and didn't tell me, and there's a lot of things they hide. They're not upfront with any of the customers. I had a claim last year with plumbing and I had to cover $800 out of pocket even though they got $800 worth of money from me monthly. I had to fight them to get my deductible back too. I had a really bad experience with them when it comes to their customer service. Plus, the people that answer the phone don't speak English. A lot of them are sourced out from the Philippines and Hong Hong, and we had difficulty filing claims because of the communication barrier. I'm about to call a guy named Ethan today for another service that's pretty similar but they're $10 cheaper a month.
The other thing that I also don't like about American Home Shield is, when I paid for my deductible, they deducted the money from my account right away, but it took them anywhere between four to six weeks to get to my address to service the AC unit. The guy who was to come out for my AC had to cancel the initial appointment, then it took him an extra three weeks to come out to my house. Other than that, the pre-season check was awesome. The tech said everything looked good.
American Home Shield sends an email that if you don't keep your AC up to service, they're not going to cover it if something happens. I used to do AC work, so I can pretty much do the maintenance on my AC unit myself. I can't do the Freon because I don't have a license to do it anymore, but I know how to clean my AC and what chemicals to buy. I just have service companies come do their checks to make sure. However, I would be very skeptical to whether or not they would fix any of the claims because they always look for something that's not in small writing to cover. I'm not saying that's what they do, but that's how I feel.

We had a garbage disposal that was stuck and they replaced the part. It worked out within 24 hours. The plumber did a good job. But it's not like that all the time. I had my heater having trouble and they sent somebody who broke the pipe and claimed the entire condenser unit needed to be replaced. They quoted for 3,500. When I talked to another provider, I was able to fix the issue for $400. That was a bad experience with AHS. What is covered and what is not isn't very detailed. I had to replace the part and it was on me. I had a good experience with my dishwasher and other small things but the bigger problems, AHS did not do well with.
AHS needs to take responsibility if something happens by the vendor they're sending out to us. Instead, they say, "We do a second evaluation" but that guy is also saying, "Oh, the pipe is broken. You have to replace it." But that pipe was broken by the technician they sent the first time. So it was all messed up.

My dad’s wife had passed and I drove approximately 400 miles to be with him. My understanding was he had no hot water as well as a gas leak, and he was occupied with grief and making funeral arrangements. I tried unsuccessfully to get the company to help him. I called at least 8 times, each time the company read a script and promised that there would be resolution. For the five days I was at my dad’s home he had no hot water. Each day I called I was told that the Inquiry was being addressed and resolution would be within the next 24 hours.
The only thing this company did was send a repairman out on the first day I was there and that person recommended a complete replacement. I paid $89 for this and 4 days later he still was waiting for the company to complete their end of the agreement. After 10 days, and AHS still reading their scripts and promising resolution within 24 hours, my sister decided to have the water heater replaced and have the company reimburse, which they NEVER did. In my opinion this company is a scam, thank God it wasn’t his AC in the middle of summer!

I was with AHS for over a year and I when I started having problems with my air I called about it needed to be repaired. They sent out a tech from Beaches heating and air and he said a part would have to be ordered which I waited all last summer for and they supposedly replaced. A day later had problems again. Again they came out. I did this at least 5 times. I requested a new company. They wouldn't send out a different one. Well the last straw was that the same company came out told me my freon was low and it was going to cost over $100 to fill.
I told him I don't have that much money at that time. He said I will fill it and when we get the money to call and pay him personally. I didn't feel comfortable with that. I called and cancelled my policy. Now I had a tech from different companies that I paid out of pocket for say that Beaches Heating and Air who was sent out by AHS rigged my air and burned up the motor in my fan and now I have to pay over $7000 to have the whole unit replaced.

Another has replaced multiple parts at different times, and it still does not work. In fact, it appears the unit is more damaged than it was originally, But at least they have a customer service department. Polite, but a joke! Try calling 20+ times with no resolution.
