Our air conditioner would freeze up on the outside of it then a little bit inside the pipes. It was leaking stuff. I called American Home Shield and customer service was good. They answered everything and helped you out. Their contractor is all right too. As long as they do the job, I'm happy.
The one who came for our air conditioner was young. He did good and got the unit fixed. But I don't know if he was nervous to tell us that we had to pay for $55 a pound for the Freon. And then he was saying that I had to get a clearance to do any welding. I told him that when somebody comes, they do the welding. Nothing has to be approved. So he welded everything I needed then he put the Freon. So far, we've been good. I recommend American Home Shield. It's the smart thing to do when you own a house. I got mine when we made the deal with my home and I just kept it. They are a good company. But if it reaches a time where it can cost me a lot more than what I have in my pocket, I'll stop.

The people American Home Shield has sent out have been fast and efficient. Everything that has gone wrong in our home has been covered, or if it was anything additional, they explained why. It's been good service all the way around. The only thing is I used to have a local rep that I dealt with, and if I ever had any issues, or needed somebody to get set up, or needed to transfer service, I could call her, but now, I don’t have a rep anymore. Calling customer service stinks because it's a 20-minute hold.

I called my claim in and said the dishwasher wasn't working. The tech did a good job. He said it was something to pump the water through. I had a claim that was a faucet. And American Home Shield had somebody. It's plumbing and heating. They could do it, but we were not sure what we were trying to get out to get fixed was always understood sometimes in the automated or when we're trying to do it online. But we received who it was assigned to. He contacted us and asked what a time would be appropriate, and made an appointment to come out. He was very good. He came out fast. And he told us he needed a part and gave us that expectation. As soon as that part came, he might have called right on the holiday when most people aren't even working to let us know that he would be coming right out after that. So, he was good.

I had a microwave problem, so I called the electrician out and he did some stuff at the circuit breaker box. Because, originally, the microwave was taking out the entire range in the kitchen. He fixed that so that the microwave was on its own circuit breaker so that it wouldn't take out the range. Then, when the service technician that AHS sent out came, he took the microwave apart and figured out where there was an electrical short associated with all things. The light that comes on in our microwave when you open the door was causing an electrical short which was tripping the breaker. So he fixed that electrical short, put the microwave back together, then remounted it above the stove. And that was the end of it.
I submitted this claim online, then I got an email of the vendor that they had assigned against it. It gave me all of their local contact information and told me that they would be contacting me within the next 48 hours, which they did to set up the time to come do the work. Then, they came out a couple of days later and accomplished the work. All in all, the warranty is a valuable protection to have. The previous property that I had was a rental property, so that enabled the property management company to file claims on my behalf to manage any maintenance problems associated with the rental property, and therefore made it much easier for me as a member of the active-duty military to be on deployments or be away from the property and make sure that the tenant was taken care of. So I greatly appreciated everything that American Home Shield has done thus far.

My oven was not working at all and I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They told me they contacted someone and then I got a phone call from the contractor. They said that they would be coming. MC2 Appliance was excellent. The tech had to replace something and he fixed the oven, and it’s working fine. AHS is good to have. When I call, someone comes out. I pay my $100 and if I don’t need it, they give you $100 credit. So, I don’t have any problems with them, other than everybody pays different. My friend has it and his is cheaper than mine.

I love A-US Air Conditioning of Texas. They repaired the AC unit two months ago. This next time, they sent someone else. The first person is the worst part. I'd never heard from him. He wouldn’t answer my phone calls. I didn't know if he did an estimate. Every time I called the guy, he'd just text me or hang up on my phone calls. That was why I wanted a second opinion. I requested the same guy that came out originally that fixed ours and they're great. He told us he could fix it or he could replace it and gave us our options. He said I could cash out and American Home Shield would pay what they were gonna pay to repair.
I called back and it was as if that conversation never existed. The rep said there was no such thing and they unapproved my repairs. I told her my repairs were approved and I got a second opinion to see if it would be cheaper. The lady I spoke to last was very rude and everything was denied all of the sudden. I don't know why hers is so different from four other people that I've talked to. I was trying to do a cash out deal and I don't know if that was even sent in. She couldn't tell me anything else except, “They will email you.”

We had our HVAC system looked at in the wintertime and we had to buy Freon, and American Home Shield paid for the fix. Then, we had to have somebody else come back out a couple of months ago and they replaced something. The HVAC system still wasn't working so we called a local company that we had dealt with before and they came out that day and we paid them directly. We had to pay for Freon that very first time and the tech said we shouldn't have had to pay for the Freon. It should have been something that the company should have been able to capture and save and reuse.
It's been probably 15 years since we replaced the HVAC system and now, the tech form the local company we’re using who’s not from AHS is telling us we're gonna have to replace everything because of the electronics. Once I saw the price, I decided to wait. But I don't know if that's something that we can go back to AHS on or if it's something that we need to take care of ourselves. But so far, AHS has been easy to deal with. It's just trying to find somebody to come out and not being able to use who we would like to use such as the companies that we've used in the past because every time somebody comes out, it's somebody different.

My air conditioner was having an issue with pushing out cold air. Frog Pro came about four times last year for the same issue. On the last visit, they said to put refrigerant in it and they said there was like a pinhole or something of that sort. But nothing was ever fixed. This season came and they come back out. It's the same issue and at this point, they said the unit needs a replacement. They submitted a claim to American Home Shield and AHS approved the replacement but I still have to come out of pocket with $3,500. But I don't have that laying around right now so I had to put another $300 in for refrigerant just to keep my home cool for the season. They advised that if I get it replaced within a six-month period, the $300 that I paid for the refrigerant will be applied towards the cost of the replacement.
The other thing with AHS is that they just came out with a plan that allows the customer to have free refrigerant and they don't pay a cost. If a customer wanna update their contract at any point, they should be allowed to. They shouldn't have to wait until a whole year after when they first upped their contract. Other than that, AHS is a great company. They replaced the refrigerator and made sure my dryer was fixed.

American Home Shield has been fairly responsive for us in Mesquite. The only thing that I don't like is we have to pay $75 every time I have somebody come out, and that’s what I thought the insurance was supposed to take care of. I recently had an appliance issue. The guy who came was clean and neat. We don't wear outdoor shoes indoors, and he had his own booties and was ready to put them on. Overall, having AHS is worth the money.

My refrigerator went out and I realized everything was spoiled. The tech came and at first, he said it had frozen up and it was gonna be good. But it wasn't. The next tech was excellent. He really looked at everything. He said, “This is exactly what's going on with it.” That was a Wednesday and on Thursday, American Home Shield sent me an email saying, “You have a choice, either the e-gift card to Lowe's, or you can pick one of these 500 refrigerators.” But, the selection was not what we wanted. We wanted to get what we had and it was not available. When I went online, Lowe's had some stock available. That's where we went with the e-gift card that AHS just sent us today.
We've been with American Home Shield for quite a while. The only time we ever had difficulty with any claim was for a dishwasher that was throwing the same F3 code and the techs had been out three times. The third time, they ordered the part the first week of March and COVID started. The part showed up in April and nobody was gonna come out. So, I held on to the part for a while. I called and said, “Okay. I need the guy to come out.” They're like, “Oh, no, it's all closed out.” I said, “No, it's not.” The part has been sitting on the shelf in my pantry for six months, waiting, because when I called to schedule it, they were like, “We can't come.” The repairman said, “I can't come. It needs to be at this level.”
Then American Home Shield said, “Nope, it's been too long." I said, "It hasn't been too long since the claim because it was never finished." They went back into the records and they're like, “Oh, wait. Yeah, you're right.” But it took some phone calls for me to finally get somebody who spoke English as a first language so that I could explain. They searched it and said, "Now, we got it. The guy will come out.” Once they put the part in, it didn't work. At that point, they were like, "It's been too long. It's a new claim". I'm like, "No. We're still on the first claim." They said, “We can't get any parts. The right part never showed up.” So, they just sent us a new dishwasher.

We had a claim to American Home Shield for the dishwasher. The company that did install it blew a bunch of breakers in the house and now, we have no kitchen lights. I'm so frustrated with everything right now. They plugged it in. It blew a couple of breakers. They unplugged it. They drilled through my cabinet and put it in a breaker bar and it was fine. They left. When I came home, there were no kitchen lights at all. It blew the whole breaker in the house on the kitchen light. I called American Home Shield. They said it was not under their warranty. The only thing that was under warranty was the dishwasher. So, I got to pay out of pocket for whatever happened with this dishwasher. We should have declined the dishwasher. It hasn’t really worked. I ran it for the first time yesterday, and it has this rubbery chemical smell to it.
Also, the company had my dishwasher for over a month, and they did a no call, no show but I had an email saying they were going to come out. The second time, they showed up without the dishwasher and had my husband sign something saying they installed it. So, I fought with the company. The third time they called and said they were gonna deliver it, we said, “No, nobody's gonna be there.” We set it up for a Tuesday. They came out Tuesday. They installed it and blew our breakers. I'm very dissatisfied. They were not very friendly. They kept telling me I kept calling the wrong number. I would not recommend them to anybody.
I was told AHS was gonna give us a payout but I was never offered a payout. I would have done a payout and just had my husband install the dishwasher. I haven't used AHS very often, but I also did a claim on my washing machine in the garage, and nobody came out. When my water heater went out, they told me they couldn't get anybody out there and that we would have to pay out of pocket to find our own person. They finally sent me a check.
I did get a microwave replaced. They had somebody out here two different times fixing my oven. The third time, they're hoping to replace it. It’s a dual one. I don't use the bottom because the temperature is all wrong. They told me I had to pay another $100 to get that fixed, but I just had somebody out there and they said it was for a different reason. I'm kind of up in the air with American Home Shield.

The washer is bouncing all around my basement. And it sounds like the house would fall down. It takes a long time, once you put your claim in, to get somebody to come out. When the guy came in and ran the washer, he ran a throw blanket from the living room and said it seemed like normal wear and tear, like the normal movement that it should have, said not to worry about it and just not to fill it as high. He thought it was overfilling. But when I fill it halfway up, it still bounces all over the basement. And I can't do less than a half a load of laundry.
I called and explained. The guy I did a video call with looked and said, “I can tell something's broken just by the way the barrel is sitting.” He could tell there might be a spring loose or broken. And that is what causes it to bounce. So, I have the parts for the dryer that they were able to diagnose. So when they come to fix that next week, they're going to take another look at the washer. I wasn’t happy with what they said about my washer. So, I called back and they reopened the claim. And they are sending somebody back out. But the tech was very nice. And he explained everything to me. I liked him very much. I'm happy to have somebody else come out and look at it. And if they can explain it in a way that I can understand or feel is okay, then it is what it is. I'm happy with American Home Shield. I like that there are no surprises. If I have something broken, I know exactly what it will cost to get fixed and/or replaced.

I'm liking American Home Shield's service but I am considering possibly not keeping it anymore because of the cost. I've only used it twice so far. I just don't think American Home Shield is benefiting me at all. I have a really old dryer that is not doing well. I just had somebody come in and check it. I've been a part of American Home Shield long enough where I bought probably two dryers just by being a part of the subscription. My dryer should be replaced and it was not. I could not believe it. The parts were ordered and redone and it's still not working right, so I'm not pleased. I'm spending a lot of money each month and we're spending $100 each time upfront. The cost is a little bit high considering we're spending as much money as we're spending in.
I'm a single-income school teacher so I don't have extra money to go out of pocket if a big breakdown would happen. I try to get as much insurance as I can and that helps me out if something would happen. If I need something fixed, I know I can spend the $100 and I could just spend it on parts. American Home Shield's service itself and the people that they send out are fantastic. But right now, everything is getting higher and higher and I don't put in enough claims with the home warranty.

Over the years, American Home Shield has been good that was why we stayed with them. Recently, the air wouldn’t get cooler. The company that came out had a nice technician. He figured out the problem. He left, and then we realized over the next couple of days that it wasn’t fixed. I ended up having another third-party company come out and check, and they found there was no Freon in there. So, that was the problem. I had to pay a lot of out-of-pocket money because it doesn’t work. American Home Shield was very clear, if you call back, they’ll make it right with that company or find another one. That’s the way to do it, but I had to get it resolved right away. Otherwise, they've been very responsible. Everything's been fixed over the years.

Most of the time, American Home Shield does fine. But every now and then, they would say they got a hiccup and don't do quite as well. Since it was a weekend when I submitted my claim, I had to wait the whole weekend with no air. The contractor came back out yesterday to check my air conditioning. But the technician couldn't figure out what's wrong with it. It quit blowing out cold air. But I had to tweak my panel box, and it came back on. I’m gonna just go ahead and get it fixed myself.

I have American Home Shield and when I resigned my contract this year and upgraded to their Platinum plan they had promised me a free central air tune up with the Platinum plan. When I contacted them today to get that free tune-up. They said, "Oh sorry. That offer has expired." Basically "Too bad you're out of luck. We lied to you to get you signed up." I was told when I signed up that that was part of the Platinum plan, I was not told that it was a limited time offer and had to be done immediately. They will do nothing to honor what they used as sales bait. Be very wary with his company. What they say and do are not the same.
I have a transcript of my conversation with one of their specialists and he even admits that he has had many calls/messages in regards to this issue and has had to tell all the callers/messages the same thing, there's nothing that they can do and that it was a promotion that they AHS did not know had a time limit and they were just as surprised as their clients when they were told that the they were not doing the free AC tune-ups or platinum members anymore. I was sold the Platinum plan with this as one of the perks, not as limited time promotion. Bait and switch. They do not honor what they sell and blame it on their vendors. They will not make good on it nor do anything to rectify this issue.

And I have one drawer that doesn't have the glass on the top and the slide so that that crisper works. I called American Home Shield and the rep had me do a video. I received a text from the service provider quickly after I contacted AHS with the problem.
The tech came out and replaced the icemaker, and showed me some maintenance thing to help with the frost. And he gave me links to get the crisper stuff on my own. Although, he said he would try to submit that to see if AHS would pay for it. He was friendly. I was in a hurry, and he took that cue easily. He sent me some links. And I've sent him a couple of messages because my freezer isn't working properly still. I would appreciate it if he would just look at his texts and answer them. But maybe he doesn't get them. So it would be a bit easier for me if we could just work on the existing text, and I didn’t have to call him. Other than that, he did a great job. American Home Shield’s service has been great. I’ve had quite a few different little problems here and there that have happened in the past four months, and they've been good about taking my calls and getting someone out quickly. When it's not fixed the first time, they send them out again and don't charge me, which is wonderful. I had a contractor for a water heater that came out a couple of different times and then I had one for a microwave, and then an air conditioner, and they’ve all been good.
It was easy to get someone but when you're doing the automated system, you have to be specific on what you're trying to say. I tried to do the claim through it for my AC and when I said an AC or air condition, it said that they’ve got me. Then I went through all the information and paid my $100. At the very end, when they repeated themselves, it was for a wall unit AC, which was not what I had. There was not a way to cancel it so, I had to call someone. The customer service representative had to cancel that work order and re-do it. So, AHS’ automated system could reiterate what you’re doing and then give it an option to say that it’s not what you want and be able to back out of it before it takes your payment. But AHS has really come through and has been super great about everything.

The first guy came and said this might be the problem. They got a new part for the washing machine. It helped out, but we were still getting the same problem. Another gentleman came out and he pinpointed what it was. And so far, they replaced what was wrong. Everything seems to be working fine. American Home Shield follows up. If somebody doesn’t do the job correctly, or the problem wasn’t solved, they have them come back until it’s satisfactory.
The only problem that discourages me is we moved into a townhouse last year, and the price was 596. This year, it was up to 6 something. Last year, we never even used it, but our price still went up. And they said, “Oh, because of the labor and the material and everything.” I understand that. But if we don’t use it, why should we suffer to compensate for everybody else? And I’m sure next year, when my contract runs out, the price is gonna go up again. But having the warranty saves money.

American Home Shield’s service is A-. The contractors are local so the people that are in my area are target people. They’re responsive and they get out there. But there has been a couple of times where the contractor got to come back a couple times to truly fix the problem. They think it’s one thing and it might not be that. But overall, it’s been good. AHS is a little too expensive though. We had to do a renewal and they didn't help us much on price. But we're fortunate that I was behind the eight ball on it. So, the convenience of renewing was easier but I intend on shopping next time. You can find the same value for a lot less money.

I'm very happy with the service of American Home Shield. Apparently, they made some changes on their phone lines, because we used to have to wait a long time and now, the phone pickup is a lot quicker. It's anywhere from three to five minutes. But there was a period of time where you can be sitting on that phone for an hour and a half and I was steamed about that.
I'm also glad to see that there was a particular vendor that I used for HVAC, Assured Climate, who went back with American Home Shield. They sent them out here a couple of months ago when I was having air conditioning issues and it was great to see them come out. The capacitor failed on the AC, so Mark from Assured Climate came out and did a diagnosis of it. And it was up and running within an hour. He's been here before, so I knew him personally, and he does a great job.
We also had to have our refrigerator repaired four months ago and that would have been a $1,000 bill easily. So, what we're paying for American Home Shield more than justified it. Then four years ago, we had an issue with our dryer. They sent somebody out and I was not happy with the diagnosis at all. I did not like the vendor and I called American Home Shield. I told them that I wanted somebody else out here to take a look at it and long story short, there was wiring that was burning. If that dryer wasn't replaced, there was a good possibility there could have been a fire in the house because it was a matter of time before the wiring got really bad and electrical fire would have started. So, AHS have been really good to deal with and the response time is much quicker than it was before, which has been huge.

I love American Home Shield. Their knowledge is excellent no matter what I call them for, and they fix everything I need. Customer service is excellent, and the time, after I call them, to get here is perfect. Recently, my refrigerator didn't have water anymore, and everything went out, including the lights. The repair people got out here quickly, and all it took was a refrigerator reset.

We have a refrigerator issue right now that we thought someone would call us back on American Home Shield. Axis came here on Monday, they looked at something and thought that they needed to get back with their office, which we assume they did. We thought they would call us back Wednesday. And here we are on Friday and we haven't heard anything.
The technicians have been average or slightly above average. I recall one plumber that was awful and they dropped the ball. They came by, spent three or four minutes, and said they would get back in touch, but they completely disappeared. And we had to call back. We had to call AHS a second time. It must have been three years ago. And ever since, whenever we've called for a plumber, we named that company and said, "Do not send them." Because they were going to send them again and we said, "Absolutely not." Those people will never be here again because they didn't do their job. They didn't seem to care. AHS honored our request. But we were disappointed that they didn't recognize how poor that company was before they decided to send them a second time. So, hopefully, our complaint took them off the list.

I had an outlet and a light that were not working. I called American Home Shield by phone and I spoke to a person. I did three issues at one time. I did the light and the socket, which I was able to call. Then I did the dishwasher and the air conditioner service. The air conditioner guy was super professional. He was pretty informative. He told me that it’s pretty old and might be needing to be replaced soon. He talked about SEER ratings and new versus old. So, he gave me a lot of education. The dishwasher guy didn't fix what I needed. When he was investigating, he broke the handle. So, he had to order a part and come back and replace it. It was a different color than the machine.
The electrical guy wasn't super communicative. I told him what was going on. He said, “It probably needs to be replaced. Sometimes those sensors go bad.” He also said I should probably replace it sooner rather than later. He fixed the other two issues. Overall, they did what they were supposed to do except for the dishwasher guy. As far as scheduling and getting somebody out and getting quality professionals out and being proactive in terms of communication and that kind of thing, AHS was great.

American Home Shield is a complete SCAM. NOT WORTH IT. They take your monthly payment but decline valid claims. We have submitted 2 claims which have been completely declined without merit. The first claim was for our HVAC which they claimed was due to weather damage. We live in Southern California where we enjoy some of the best weather in the country. We are a couple in our 60s and AHS recently declined our claim for the leak from the drum in our 5 year old LG washer stating “misuse.” An utterly ridiculous statement that cannot be defended due to an inadequate appeal process. STAY AWAY from AHS. Please note -Organizations that rate appliance insurance companies make note of poor reviews for AHS by consumers, but give them a good rating due to lack of competition for appliance insurance companies, which is a disservice to the consumer.

My previous issue has been resolved to my satisfaction, American Home Shield reimbursed me my total out of pocket expense for getting my AC fixed. I have up dated my review to four star vs. five star because I feel that the customer service department needs to work on their soft skills and not have such a cold/uncaring response.
Original Review: June 22, 2022
My AC went out on I put in a order that day. The contractor assigned to me reached out to me 48 hours later to set up repair. Because of unusually hot temperatures they could not get to me until two days later. So for 5 1/2 days, working at home my house was 86 degrees. I texted the company at 8 AM to verify that they would come out between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. A little after 1:00 PM I texted the company to verify their status but never heard back from them, I called the two numbers that I had and the voice mail was full. I called Home Shield to see if I could get someone else out to fix my AC or call someone myself, I was told No and after they could not reach the contractor they would send a email and if I don't hear anything by the end of the day call back.
The person on the phone did not care that I had been with air for 5 1/2 days days, working at home all day, I just had to wait and follow policy. I called someone locally who came out 45 minutes later and had to pay $744, although I pay of $60 a month to Home Shield. I do understand that things happen and If the contractor could not meet the timeline they promised me, they should have reached out and let me know that they would be late. I also feel that if I called American Home Shield and told them that I have been waiting 5 1/2 days get my AC repaired and we are experiencing higher than normal heat they could have been little more accommodating because of the situation.

The outside unit was making a lot of noise. I filed the claim on Saturday and the tech came out on Monday, Memorial Day, to fix it. They sent me a text that the tech would be out at a certain time. He also followed up that he was on his way and was only about 30 minutes out so I knew to expect him. I was very pleased with how fast he was out there and got that fixed. He knew exactly what was wrong with it, went right at it, and put a new fan motor in it. Had it gone any longer, it would have burned up my compressor. I already referred AHS to one of my friends.

There are lots of bureaucracy happening with American Home Shield. To get something fixed, it took me two weeks. I lost my time and my patience because I didn't know what to expect. Every time I was calling, the rep was explaining different things to me and was not being consistent. It was an AC issue and that was during the season where we all needed to have an AC because it was summertime. I asked American Home Shield to assign an individual. They assigned an individual and that individual said that they were not be able to do that.
American Home Shield assigned another company that was not proficient with that specific unit. I told American Home Shield I wanted to drop the policy and only then did they start putting things together. Eventually, they figured out what they needed to do and get to the bottom of it. They assigned that first individual and that first individual came and finally was able to fix the issue. American Home Shield also returned my service fee, which was $100. I understand that it's a glitch, but I prefer that things turn around much faster. They should also be very careful with their customer.

I live out in rural Wyoming and apparently, AHS doesn't have a whole lot of vendors here. I've had two instances where I had a water leak that they couldn't get a plumber. So I had to get my own plumber and was supposed to have them contact AHS and go through all the hoops and bounds to get it done. So I'm not really happy at this point. They should look for vendors in the area. There are plumbers and repairmen who are not isolated to Northeastern Wyoming. Just across the border of South Dakota, there's a fairly large city of Spearfish, which is only 30 miles away, and the techs there come out here to work, too.

I have two homes under American Home Shield. So far, it's been more useful for the rental property that I have right now than the house I’d been living in. With having the home warranty, I like not having to drop thousands of dollars out of pocket on a new appliance if it breaks. It was a stoppage this recent claim. There was a clog in the toilet. It ended up being the plumbing line and they said that it was because of excess toilet paper.

My air conditioner stopped working, so I did a claim online. And American Home Shield connected me with the contractor. They contacted me, made an appointment, and came out within the service time. They paid good attention to me and got the problem solved quickly. They had the part. It was a small one to where he fixed it in 15 minutes. That was my first incident. And it was so easy. It was amazing. I did it because I bought all of my appliances at the same time, and all their warranties expired about the same time. And I'm terrified of that. I can't afford to buy new. This is a new house. That air conditioner was three years and eight months old, and it already broke. I can't afford those kinds of expenses. So, it was nice that I had the warranty. For $60 a month, it's peace of mind. And I can't replace that.

So, he said that they were going to get in touch with Home Shield to see what was the next step for my refrigerator. We had to turn in a claim for our refrigerator that went out. Sears came out, looked at it and said it couldn't be repaired. American Home Shield sent me the link to order one. They sent another company out that brought it. They hooked it up on a Wednesday and on Thursday, we lost everything in the refrigerator. We had called American Home Shield to see what they could do. They said it's under warranty. They couldn't help us. We called GE and they said we have to follow the warranty process.
I understand the process if it's warranty. But when it's a brand new refrigerator, and it doesn't last 24 hours, it should be replaced. When they sent the company that had installed it back out, the technician said he was gonna order some parts but didn't know if it's gonna fix it. We're still without a refrigerator and it’s been over a month. We haven't heard from the other company if they got the parts. We don't know if they're going to fix them. American Home Shield has been good up until now. I'm disgusted with the refrigerator claim. If they have another company bring something out and it doesn't work, then they should be on that company saying, “No, this is unacceptable. You need to replace that.” They told my husband they would call GE and see what they could do, and they would get back with us and try to help us, but we haven't heard anything.

We had a garbage disposal issue. We're in Beaumont and AHS wanted to hire somebody 90 miles away from Houston. Then, when they sent an electrician out, he said that the plumber didn't know what he was doing. But when the plumber came back, he said that the problem was not what the electrician said it was, and it took a month of back and forth to resolve the issue. But if AHS used some local plumber or local electrician, it would have gone much better. When you file a claim with AHS for a washer and dryer, they'd come out in two weeks, order a part, then you'd be sitting there going to the Washiteria for a month. I'm not too impressed with their process and the main problem is who they select to send out.
AHS also told us that a part of our swimming pool was not covered. We had a claim with the pool where the motor went out and it was 14 days before they sent somebody out. It was their selection and we could have gotten somebody the next day. When the the pool people came, they put a capacitor in and it went along. But in that two weeks, our pool went out of chemicals and got out of balance. Then, it cost $800, that was not covered, to get it back in balance.

They're always there when something happens. They have sent people who come to take care of them. They always came and took care of it. I'm especially very happy with Golden State Plumbing. A few times, we had a problem with the AC. And a swimming pool pump here and there. So, everybody's okay. Just the Highway Plumbing & Rooter tries to look for work to get more money. The hot water tank was leaking. We noticed the water was getting deeper and deeper in the pan. AHS sent someone and we paid for the call. We replaced the hot water tank. They covered the cost of the tank but they did not cover the cost of the installation. We knew it was an old tank when we bought the place. That's one of the reasons we took the warranty out. They had to put a pressure tank in, which it didn't have before. The installation guy changed the piping around a little bit. And due to that, they didn't cover that. It was $1,300. We had to pay out-of-pocket. But it didn't seem like there was that much work to be done. The plumber company they had did a good job, though. But it was just more than we thought we'd have to pay out of pocket.
We had one other inspection done on our air conditioning unit. They called us and wanted to know if we wanted to get this inspection done. We said, sure. One of the things we found out, I guess I was disappointed in, is prior to us purchasing the place, if the earlier tenants did not do certain things, maintenance-wise, on the unit, evidently, our home warranty doesn't cover things. This was kind of surprising to me. I guess I wouldn't take it out again because of that. No sense in going back to earlier owners to say they didn't do the right maintenance, so they were not going to cover it. There's no sense of even taking insurance out. That's my biggest issue with the home warranty.

I'm liking American Home Shield's service. The second time, we called them for the refrigerator. The tech came out and fixed the problem and I haven't had a problem with the refrigerator since. The garage door, the gentleman came in, was very professional. He told me what my options were and I took him on purchasing a new garage door opener and it's working good. However, I put in a request for two appliances, which was a refrigerator and a microwave, and the microwave guy called me a week later. So, it was two different services and they charged me $75 for each one instead of just putting it on the same service which came out for the refrigerator. I found out what my problem was, so I didn't have the microwave guy come out and service it, but they never refunded that $75.
Also, when my refrigerator went down, AHS paid me cash, I went shopping, and I went and got me a new appliance. However, when my stove and my dishwasher went out, AHS told me to go ahead and get what I want, and as soon as I showed them the receipts, they would go ahead and reimburse me. I called time and time again, and I finally gave up because I was on hold for such a long time. And every time I would talk to someone, they would give me the go-around and I never got paid for my oven and dishwasher.
I dealt with them for a year, going back and forth on the phone, and I just gave up because it cost me money to stay on the phone and deal with it than it was really worth. Because I didn't want to lose my job being on hold and being on the phone all the time. And it was empty promises. They saw it clearly right there on the notes, but nothing was ever done about it.
I've been speaking to their contractors. Elite is outstanding. They're very professional and thorough. I would put in the request. Within minutes, they call me to set up an appointment. That's why I was shocked that they didn't give the microwave with the refrigerator to Elite. It was a different company and that took them a week and a half to contact me. Go with AHS, but don't expect them to pay for your appliances if they go out. Because they don't help with that. They give somebody the go-around.

The pool pump quit working on Saturday night. Sunday, my husband put the claim in. He told my son-in-law, “Well, you know what? Sometimes, ‘cause it's an older pump, let's change the filters.” So, he went out there to change the filters. And he didn't screw the one thing back on because we just ordered filters for it. The tech made me a little mad. Because after the pool pump quit, my son-in-law went out there to get the filters because we thought just maybe the filters need to be cleaned. And he must have unscrewed something. The tech started screaming at me telling that was what ruined my pool pump. But we didn't even open that thing until after the pool pump was dead.
The tech was upset because he said that we flooded it. But there was no water. He started screaming at us and said, “And I claimed it that it was broken.” I said, “Well, sir, we didn't even touch this until after the pool pump was broken.” I said, “You know, I don't go out there.” He was upset. And I said, “But my son-in-law had it off because I ordered new filters.” And I showed him the new filters that he brought, too.
I even explained everything that happened to him the pump gave out because it was slowing down. It was 10 years old. He was nice at first. And when he saw that, he got mad at me. But that wasn't done by me. I said, “Now you're going to call American Home Shield and tell them it was my fault?” He said no because he knew he was just mad. I said, “You're the one that wrote the claim. I'm not the one that wrote the claim. Now you're yelling at me. When you looked at it on Monday, you didn't say anything on Monday that that thing was loose because you didn't see it loose on Monday, ‘cause it wasn't loose on Monday, ‘cause he didn't turn it until he was changing the filters.”
He only used electrical tape to tape it without putting a cap on it. He just changed the pool pump. That’s all he did. It scares me because if we get an actual flood in Arizona, I won't have a pool pump because of the way he put it in there. My husband was upset. I didn't want to call the tech back because I thought he was the rudest thing in the world when he came back. And my husband told me to call him back about the electrical tape and I said, “Oh no, I'm never calling that man back in my house again.” They contract with AHS. They're mad because they're not getting paid what they think they should get paid for. I maintain the pool pump as good as I can. That's why I have AHS just in case. I make sure everything is taken care of beforehand. So, I was frustrated.
AHS didn't do very good for my mother either. She got a new water heater. And the guy wanted to charge her $1,000 to install it. She called AHS and they said, “Whatever the company charges you, that's their business.” My mother is 81. $1,000 is a lot of money for her. And her air conditioner went out. She rented some air conditioning units to put in the house so she could keep cool. That happened within the last year. AHS told her they would reimburse her for the rent but she has never seen the check. I have been thinking about quitting AHS.

I signed on early November of last year and I like the service for the most part. But I do have issues sometimes with the folks that they contract out. The plumbers that they had were horrible. They caused us to have issues with our home insurance company. We had to really, really push them because of the things we were talking about created structural issues for our home. We looked them up online and they had been documented that they treated AHS clients horribly.
Our original issue was a clogged toilet and the plumbers walked into the bathroom but didn't even touch the toilet. They didn't even get within three feet of the actual toilet, and then diagnosed it as a bilateral valve issue. That was going to cost so much money. So we got a second opinion that was approved by AHS. We got SERVPRO out and they said, “It's a simple clogged toilet, what it was. But because of just how long it stayed, it ended up rotting through the wood.” It literally rotted through the wood of our home, and where the toilet was, it created a hole in our ceiling all the way through. So you can hear someone from the floor below.
SERVPRO looked at the toilet and they figured out what the issue was. They figured out how we were able to coordinate with our home insurance to figure it out. But because when we did log it, and the original plumbing company hadn't even logged the issue with AHS, it delayed the response for our regular home insurance. So we almost weren't even able to get coverage because it was two weeks before they even logged it properly. It was almost a really catastrophic mess.
Besides that single experience, AHS has been fantastic. We understand it was the vendor’s issue. I really appreciate AHS. We love it. They've been really great, especially when we had our AC catch fire and explode in March. I immediately put in a work order when I saw smoke and we had someone out the same day. The contractor was able to diagnose it quickly and put out the fire. Then they were able to help us get a new AC system. Also, they diagnosed further problems with our furnace because it was a big structural issue. So the response time on that was so quick and the service was fantastic.

I like that if something gets broken, AHS sends a technician. They don't take a long time and they're pretty reliable in the sense that what they say and what they do are not different. DMV came out for my fridge and the tech fixed one issue. But for some reason, the motor broke. He replaced the motor for the icemaker and he told me that the motor was making noise before. It was not functioning well. It could be a coincidence that after he fixed it, it got really bad. But he replaced it later. It’s working fine now. He was good. Only one little thing was he could've given me more time before he came in. He could've called me 30 minutes earlier. One time, he came suddenly, so I did not get much time to get prepared.

The heating element went out on my hot water heater. It’s 18 years old. It’s the new one that was in the house originally, and it was clogged up with calcium. I called American Home Shield. I paid $300 and Infinity put a brand new water heater in for me. I'd recommend the people at Infinity anytime. If I'll have any plumbing issues, I would like them to come back and do my work. American Home Shield is good. They’re Johnny-on-the-spot. When I called the claim in, they were very professional.

They were really good. They sent a company that works in the area and gave me their information so I could get ahold of them when I was trying to figure out how to work my work schedule. The air conditioner technicians were awesome. They had the equipment and everything they needed. I just paid the $100 and somebody fixed my AC. With the price of everything being as high as it is, I'm definitely paying more than 100 otherwise. The warranty is definitely worth it.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point.

Want it to be known, I have had a contract with AHS for 5.5 years and have used them several times without issue until this incident. On May 1st, 2022, I submitted a service request for my covered refrigerator. A technician was dispatched, replaced the suspected part and closed the original request. The repair did not resolve the problem and the technician was dispatched again on May 12th, 2022. The technician ordered the only remaining part able to be replaced on the unit to attempt to repair. The authorization for the part was delayed for two weeks and when finally received, the part was installed only to find it did not resolve the issue. The technician found the unit NON-REPAIRABLE due to main wiring harness. The technician submitted the diagnosis that day to AHS and notified me I should be receiving contact to schedule replacement.
As of this today, June 20th, 2022, this request has still not been resolved. Have called nearly every day for an update receiving the same information of the part needing to be replaced. After the CS representative reaches out to the contractor, they say the replacement diagnosis has not been received and it will take 24-48 hours to process once it has been received. The replacement diagnosis has been submitted on multiple occasions and even had the contractor include me on the submission on June 10th, 2022 (attached) to ensure I had a copy.
Having received the same response from EVERY CS representative, I asked to speak with a supervisor/manager to aid in resolving this quickly. Was told I would have to wait 24 hours for a call from a supervisor. The supervisor has attempted to call when I was away from my phone or unable to answer the call and left no return contact information. Calling back into the number forces me back into the CS queue and told I would have to wait another 24 hours for a return call. I am now 7 weeks without a working refrigerator in my home! Still receiving the same information day after day where notes on the service request are not being updated even though the representative has confirmed the status with the contractor.
Are you still in need of assistance?

Been trying to avoid blasting American Home Shield, but here we go .... Since March I have been trying to get my AC fixed. You sent out a contractor named J&J Mechanical Inc. I had to argue with the technician to even get him to actually check the unit. How can you determine it was a fuse from standing outside my front door arguing with me?? This contractor said a 20 year old wire that runs from the ground all the way to the eaves was eaten by vermin, literally from the top to the bottom. Determined vermin right there!! Can you explain how they bleached the brown to white, cracked it, etc. on the part of the wire they didn't "eat"?? Anyway, they denied the claim citing pest damage. They also left a wire against my house that they said was "arching and throwing sparks" live. (SIDE NOTE: I had my technician come out and check out the unit so I was informed when they started trying to talk to me about the issues.)
I asked for a second opinion. Indoor Comfort comes along. Indoor Comfort determines the wire damage is from normal wear and tear. Wire gets fixed and they test the compressor. They say there is a pin hole in the compressor and it needs to be replaced. I am told they will submit it, send in pictures, and someone will be calling me back soon to get this resolved. That was in April. No one calls, I call back. AHS, you sent back out J&J. After their dispatcher was rude, their technicians were rude, and they held the diagnosis for a period beyond what your contract says they should and ONLY sent in their results after being forced to. I told you I didn't want J&J on my property. I told you I don't trust them, nor their ability.
SO, you force me to allow J&J back out. Only for them to find another wire that is on the interior of the outside unit that again supposedly has been eaten by pest. AND, they don't check the compressor at all. The technician also tells me he won't do anything until I go back inside. Again they have to be FORCED to turn in pictures and a report. As the technician is leaving he informs me he will NOT let this be covered and will deny me. Now I ask for another second opinion. You try to send out another company and they don't service our area, so you send out Indoor Comfort again. AND AGAIN, he states it is normal wear and tear, not pest/vermin/whatever you are trying to blame this on. They take pictures and submit their findings. The condenser needs to be replaced PERIOD.
I have called every other day, sometimes every day, and I keep getting the runaround. I even now have the direct number to authorizations (i.e. people actually in the US). There are been several of your authorizations agents that have tried to get this pushed through to get it fixed and your Contractor Relations person is trying to send J&J back for another look? NO! I REFUSE TO ALLOW THEM IN MY HOME!!! I don't feel comfortable with them. Send someone else! It's pretty sad when other contractors don't want to work after someone because they are tired of cleaning up their messes.
You have tried multiple times to get someone else out here. There is no one else willing to work in this area. Cash offer me out, let me get my own contractor, or I will be contacting the Texas Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. I am sure they would love to know that consumers are having to pay for a contract every month and your Contractor Relations Rep is in the pocket of one of your contractors and therefore denying the paying customer the services.
Multiple times in the last 10 days Pamela in Retention has tried to help me resolve this and multiple times the Contractor Rep has overridden her and denied to allow anyone but J&J to come "look at it again". NOT to fix it, but to look and take pictures. Same pictures everyone else in the company is looking at. Is your Contractor Rep kin to the people at J&J Mechanical Inc.? Are they giving your rep kick backs? I don't read where your contract says I have to use them if there was a second opinion that was different. I have the right to refuse to J&J on my property. What is the issue??? Get it this fixed today American Home Shield!
We do appreciate your feedback and apologize that this issue has caused you to cancel your warranty. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience, and hopes that you would consider joining the AHS team in the near future. Have a great day!

We ordered two services. One for our AC to be taken care of. American Home Shield sent it to a contractor, and nobody there. But $75 was taken out of my account for that service. I've called their number several times. Nobody has responded. Left messages. I've sent an email. And I told the email going to AHS about the AC not being taken care of. Another this is, everything for them is done via the internet. You can barely get a live person, and that’s a bad situation. They were supposed to come out and make sure everything is fine. But if by tomorrow I’ve not had any resolution, I'll call my banking institution to tell them I need my $75 back. The other service on the same day was for the plumbing. That was taken care of and very well. They were timely and thorough. And for that, I'm thankful. I’ll give the person A++. I was pleased with the plumbing, but not with the AC. Half of my job has not been taken care of but my money, 100%, was taken out.

For our AC claim, the techs had to come out three times. First, the fan wasn’t working. They came out the first time and they got out the panel and the techs said it was some bug that was blocking the connection. He took that off and cleaned it, and then the fan started working. But the air coming out wasn’t getting really cold, so we called him back again. He checked something. We thought that it was fixed. It was cold for a day or two, then it went right back to where it was. A third guy came back again, and he concluded that it needed Freon. They put the Freon in. They were courteous. When I submit a claim with AHS, I call by phone. It's usually pleasant but sometimes, you may get a person that's hard to understand, but they work through it.

The repair people had to replace the motor of my washing machine and the service was good. However, I'm not sure American Home Shield is worth what I’ve paid for it because I've paid more in premiums than I would have if I just had somebody repair the washer. We got this home warranty because we know our water heater’s on its last leg, but it’s still working. Also, if they come and replace it, they're gonna give us the cheapest thing money can buy instead of a decent one. So we'll end up having to pay extra to get a decent one, and I'm not happy about that either.

I called because I had trouble with my well. American Home Shield would send somebody out but they couldn't find anybody. So they told me, “If you can find somebody, get them.” I went and got a provider. They came to the house, they did the work. I sent AHS the bill. They told me that they had to approve it. But they didn't tell me that they had to approve it for them to do the work. It was during that COVID. I wasn't even working. But I needed the water. So, I couldn't be there waiting for AHS to approve it. I had to get the work done and I paid. And I wanted my reimbursement. But that was the only problem with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield’s service is okay, but they're slow as hell. The last couple of times I've had to use them, they did pretty good. I had a refrigerator that went bad. The seal on the side went bad, and the guy came out and looked at it and he said they couldn't find another one. So, they had to get me a new refrigerator. It went on for about eight months before I finally got another refrigerator. I had to throw food away because it was going bad and that was what I kept telling them. They said, “Well, we can't help you. We can't find a replacement.” I found replacements, but they expected me to go get them and bring them in. I said, “No, that's not what my warranty says. You're supposed to replace.” So, that was a really bad one.
I had water in my washroom. So, I called AHS and told them there was something wrong with my washer. We had had a plugged-up septic tank and I didn't realize all the lines in the house got plugged up. It was bad. My washer wouldn't go out. My sink stunk like sewer and I couldn't figure out why. When I called AHS, they got somebody out here who fixed it right away. That was good. The only thing is I live in a mobile home. My mobile home flooring is all particle board. Now, I've got a warped door in the back that I have a hard time opening and closing because the particle board sucked up all the extra water. AHS said they can't do anything about it.

He didn't have it and said that he'd come back the next day. He didn't come until three days after that. He said his business is backed up and I'm like, “Well, can you give the part to somebody else so somebody else can bring it by and fix it? Why does it have to be you?” He said he was the only one on the route and he apologized for not being able to make it the next day.
My other experience was with the hot water tank which was leaking a little water. The tech told me that the problem was something inside one of my little valves that was rusted out. He replaced that and did a good job with it. Everything was on his truck and he was well prepared. He told me that if I have any issues with the leak, to give him a callback and he'd come out. He set me on watch duty to make sure the hot water tank is not leaking and that the problem is actually resolved. That was a good experience. However, the calls go into another country and those people have no idea where I'm located. They initially took the address down wrong and I had to call them four times to get them to fix that. That caused a problem when we had a service call because they were sending the wrong address to the contractor. Also, when I signed up, they told me $75, but the service fee constantly has been $100. We had a stopped toilet and the service people that came were adequate. When you talk to technicians, they freely tell you, “There is no way that American Home Shield is going to cover anything more than just us getting this working again.” If something needs to be replaced, you can forget it. I have two properties with American Home Shield. There was an instance where the air conditioner broke. A guy came out and states that the wires have been in the sun. We live in Phoenix and the wiring goes everywhere. The guy said the wires touched and they shorted out. He added that American Home Shield won't pay for them to change those wires, but he would do it for $170. That took him less than a minute.
His point was American Home Shield said they were gonna cover the refrigerator and nothing else. Nothing on top of the refrigerator. It just struck me that it's not what they promise. A lot of times when you call, you're calling a call center in the Philippines. That's always a little frustrating. You're basically held hostage. There was an instance where they got an air conditioning guy. He walked in and was complaining bitterly that American Home Shield has him on so many calls. I liked American Home Shield's service until a week ago. One of our AC units had a coil issue and the company they sent out to repair it came back and said, "Oh, yeah, we can do it. This is what's broken, but we need to do 1,000 extra dollars worth of work," which I know is not accurate. So, I questioned it and they said, "Well, we're willing to pay you." I said, "Okay, fine," and they offered us $600 to replace the coil. I've talked to three other air conditioning repair places and they were all over 2,000. So, what AHS offered us to try to repair something was not accurate. And it shouldn't theoretically cost us anything more to charge us an extra $1,000.
AHS sent me an email yesterday that said, "Hey, here's what we're offering you, which is $620, or you can go with the company, the ACS." So, I need to call back today and say the amount is not appropriate. But we're stuck between a rock and a hard place. We're in Houston, Texas, where it's 105 degrees. The other unit went down last night. So, I'm in trouble. I put in a warranty request. We'll see what happens.

Yesterday, I got home at about 6:30 and when I looked at the temperature, it was 80 degrees inside. After 9 o'clock, it came back to normal. I have it at 74. The guy who came was nice though. I had a problem before with the heater and AHS never fixed it. They told me to order the part and I did, and I called the plumber. AHS told me it would take a week to fix the heater in wintertime. It’s under the warranty that I have and when I called them, they were gonna send me the maintenance. But I had to get somebody to install the part for me.
I'm just wasting that money and spending it but not getting the service that needs to be done. AHS should take care of the customer and send the right people to do the job right one time. When we ask for service, we need the service in a couple of days, not a week. If I have to wait a week, I'm paying the monthly service for nothing. I can save that money for a year and spend it in one time, and have my issue solved.

Most of the people from American Home Shield are good and professional. We had one bad experience a few years ago. It was one of those situations where you have callbacks for service on the same item, and the people that were sent kept acting like they had fixed the problem. It would work for a little while, and then it'd break down again. Instead of ordering a new water line for the ice maker, they just spliced one and it came off and it blew a hole in our drywall behind the refrigerator. So, I wasn't really happy with that company. I had a claim with AHS recently for the pool and the techs were good. AHS is a very good deal to have because service calls are going up higher and higher. We pay the $125 service fee to lower the premiums and sometimes you wonder, "Well, did I really get my money's worth on the $125 this time? Because it seemed like a simple fix." Still, overall, it's worthwhile.

Sigmond Plumbing came out. They were professional. The tech came, told me the issue and resolved it. He was a good guy, good communication. I did a two request at that time, one for my sink in my kitchen. Also, the faucet itself leaked a bit of water. The other one was for a toilet where it wasn't filling properly, so Sigmond had to come in and change something in it.
The tech told me about the one in the kitchen. He told me that he cannot fix that. And that was the call. He would leave an open ticket for that one to be fixed because he said I needed to get a new faucet. He didn’t even try to fix. He said, “I cannot give you one. So, you need to either call the company that's on there and see if they can give you a new one.” Or, “You have to go purchase one. And then you can call back, and we can come back and reinstall it.” He fixed the toilet, but he didn’t fix that. I thought American Home Shield covered that. He said that those usually cost $300 and they would not provide that for whatever reason.
It doesn't have to be a Moen to me. Just whatever that fits the style. But he never did. So, he told me that I would have to do it. I thought when I got in there, he would be able to fix my situation instead of me contacting back. The reason I pay for AHS is I am not a handyman. I had a leak and it cost me $500 to fix it. And just to get the annual plan was $450. That leak would've paid for AHS.

American Home Shield replaced my stackable washer and dryer. At first, they tried to get the parts for the one that they replaced. But they couldn't find the parts. So, they gave me an option to choose this one that they had at Lowe's, or I could just take the money, and if I wanted to upgrade, do it myself. The replacement was three days after that. AHS did a great job. I had a claim before that with my AC. It took a little prodding to get that done, but they had no choice. It finally got done.

The contractor they were using didn't order the right parts. American Home Shield has been more than bending over backward to help me out, but it's the subcontractor that they used for the air conditioning that dropped the ball. The service is up and down. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes not so good. Our last experience was very good with Myers Comfort. Our air conditioning system was not cooling well enough, and summer was coming, so we needed something going. The guy fixed it, and it's doing just fine. Myers Comfort did a great job. When something breaks down and you have a home warranty, you know that you can get it repaired. It's not always as timely as I'd like it, although this recent one was fairly timely.
Sometimes, when you're dealing with American Home Shield or other companies that are offering this sort of thing, they find whoever they can get. It's not always the same as the quality that you would pick on your own if you were just choosing somebody on your own. We had a service repairman come by from another outfit that was really terrible. In fact, this other guy had to fix things that the other people messed up when they were doing their repairs. I told American Home Shield that I never wanted that company again, and I haven't seen that group since. Hopefully, that's because they responded. Maybe some other people complained too.
Another thing is when you do claims online, it's limited to the parameters that American Home Shield sets. You're not talking to somebody. I have two different types of air conditioning systems, and what I need doesn't always come across clearly when I do it online, but by and large, they've been pretty good. Lately, they've been better about responding more quickly to different concerns.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point.

AHS doesn't cover anything. I pay 80 bucks a month for this, and I'm still sitting here at home with no AC. I made the claim. The guy came out. He flipped the breaker back on. It didn't work when I tried it but it worked when he did. Then he left. He said, “You might wanna get an electrician out here.” I got an electrician out. I paid that guy, then I paid the electrician. The electrician came out and said, “You've got a 40-amp breaker on a 30-amp wire. I could change that, but it probably won't do anything.” Because he said that, I couldn't get the AC fixed until he did that. I paid out of pocket to have him do that in addition to the money that I paid. Once he did that, I said, “He did that. Can I get the AC guys back out?” That took a couple of weeks.
The AC guy came back. He said that there were a bunch of things wrong with the compressor and that, also, he thought maybe it was using too much power for the breaker. He sent that estimate and then I got denied because there was pet hair in the compressor. Now I'm gonna have to pay out of pocket to have that fixed. I spent a bunch of money on nothing. I have to spend a bunch more money getting it fixed.
Plus, when the workers came out, they seemed to have the attitude, “This is just the American Home Shield job.” Like, “We're not gonna make any money off this, so we're not gonna really do anything.” Literally, nothing has been fixed when I've called somebody out. I've ended up having to pay out of pocket every single time. AHS is a big scam.

The refrigerator that the vendor fixed is still screwed up. It was icing up and they ordered the part for it. The part came in and they came out and fixed it. It’s still icing up but I hasn’t called back. I'm aggravated with it. The vendor for the air conditioner had to come back three times to fix it. When Island Breeze came out for the AC, they claimed that it was just a fuse that blew so the guy replaced the fuse. Two days later, it quit again. I called another guy out and he claimed it was gonna be three weeks before he could even come out here. That was not gonna work. They’ve been out here twice and did not fix the thing.
The third guy came out and lied to me the second time. He said it had a chafed wire. I checked it myself and it never had a chafed wire. It ended up being something else wrong that was shorting and blowing the fuse. So, he researched it and fixed it. It's working fine now. It was not American Home Shield themselves but the vendors that they used. I’m not thrilled about that. But we had a plumbing issue about a year ago and it was great. It worked perfectly.

I called AHS on a Thursday for my air conditioner to be looked at and they said that they would send the technician out on a Tuesday because there were a lot of backlogs. The technician was supposed to contact me the night before to let me know that they were coming and to confirm. They were supposed to call me an hour before they were supposed to arrive, too. That particular day that he was supposed to come, I was out there in my backyard doing some weeds and had my phone in my blouse pocket to where it was close so I wouldn't miss the call. But the call never came. It was 2:00 in the afternoon. I called the office and asked them, "Where's the technician? He was supposed to come." Supposedly, he told the office that he had come and knocked on the door and that nobody answered and he left. He didn't bother calling me on the phone to let me know he was here. He just split.
After I complained, he said that he was too far away to come back. I had to wait until Thursday to where another technician came and took care of the problem. I was very upset. They were nonchalant. They even said, "You missed the appointment." I said, "I did not miss any appointments. I was here. He should have called me because I was just around the house there in the backyard." But the guy that came fixed it really quick and did an excellent job. It's working well. I've had AHS for two years. Every time that I've called them, it's always been an air unit problem. The last one had to replace a motor and they did that and that was cool. Other times, they came in and fixed my refrigerator. I had a pipe that bust in my ceiling. Beforehand, my damages would be so bad, I would have to use my home insurance to have it redone. But this time it was small. I called American Home Shield and they said they could send a plumber out. It took a few days to get someone out here. The first day they want to come, I was having an outpatient surgery so they couldn't come. By the time they got to me, it was bad. I had buckets catching the water. Tommy that works for Dave's Plumbing came in and did a beautiful job and he let me know he had done some other townhouses where I live. But he said, "There's nothing I can do about your ceiling. You have to get a carpenter or somebody that does those kinds of repairs." He said, "Why don't you reach back to AHS?"
I reached back out to American Home Shield and the lady told me, "Yeah. We can get someone to come out there to do that patchwork." She said, "It's a continuation of your claim that you put in." When the guy got here, it was a job that was too big for him. He said, "A lot of your ceiling has to be cut out and sheetrock put in. I'm a one-man person. I really can't do it."
When I called AHS back to let them know, the lady said, "It's been denied." I said, "What's been denied? I'm just now calling." She said, "He couldn't do the work so everything was denied." We went back and forth. I did another call because I couldn't really make her understand me 'cause she had a foreign accent and I was getting frustrated. I stopped talking with her. I called back and talked to another young lady. She was gonna have someone to call me. She said, "I'm emailing your situation." But nobody called. I reached back out to AHS again. When I did, the guy explained to me, "If you go back and look at your contract, we really can't do the work. That's something you're gonna have to do on your own."
If they had just explained it to me in the beginning, I wouldn't have been going through all of that. I'm still sitting here with holes in my ceiling and trying to get someone to fix it for me. I was very disappointed. I was going to cancel with them. But the last person I've talked to was so nice and he went through a lot of information with me about my contract with them. I said, "I may hang around a little while." I also had problems with my refrigerator. I didn't like the guy that did the work. I needed a part. He said, "If I can get it, it'll come to you. But if not, then you just won't get it." That was how he left it. If he did and they couldn't accommodate me, somebody should have let me know.

There was no update for 4 hours, I called again, I was told they didn't make expedite. They would make it now which needs another 4 hours. Another 4 hours later I called in, they told again they didn't make it expedite, they would make it now, which needs another 4 hours.
Then after this 4 hours, I called in, they said they couldn't find a local contractor, I can find my own and get their authorization. I found one, and came in on a Saturday morning, after the contractor inspected, we called AHS for authorization, they told that their authorization department doesn't work on weekends, we can go ahead. After the issues was fixed, I paid the contractor, and a few days later I sent receipts to claim for reimbursement, they told me they didn't authorize and declined the reimbursement. I purchased a home built in the 1970s, and I expected some issues with the older home. The appliances are on the high end and had been replaced in the last several years, so I knew at least one or two would need to be replaced. I selected American Home Shield from the options that the seller provided for Home Warranties and I regret that choice. AHS covered almost nothing that went wrong with my house and the appliances. I had an "outside" faucet that was leaking. Since the faucet was connected to the house but was facing outside, it wasn't covered, but this isn't stated in the contract. I had a leak discovered under my house by a contractor that he said would not be covered by AHS, so I paid for this repair out of pocket as well that was over $6,000. I believed him because the previous small faucet repair wasn't covered.
The next item to stop functioning was the dishwasher. There was always water in the bottom of the dishwasher and it never fully drained. The dishes were not cleaned completely when this happened. One repair man came out and told me that I wasn’t closing the door all the way, but that it could also be a control board malfunction since the dishwasher wasn’t finishing all of the cycles. He ordered a new control board that arrived about 2 weeks later. The control board was not the correct item for my unit. In the meantime, I would flip the breaker switch for the dishwasher to attempt to get the dishwasher running again. Flipping the breaker switch worked about half of the time to get the dishwasher to drain and start a new cycle.
The next service call the repair man came and told me that my dishes were TOO clean and that the soap was building up and preventing the dishwasher from draining. After a month of putting really dirty dishes in my dishwasher and flipping the breaker switch to start and stop the dishwasher, I had had enough. I didn’t attempt to call AHS again and bought a new dishwasher out of pocket.
During this time, my garage door was also starting to work intermittently. When it stopped opening after a couple of days, I put in a service request through AHS to have it repaired. The repairman told me that there was a loose wire, and that the unit would most likely need to be replaced. He also told me that AHS probably wouldn’t cover a replacement and told me that his company could install a new unit for $500. The next time the garage door opener stopped functioning for a few days, instead of spending another $75 for the next service call, I opted to purchase a new garage door opener.
The next appliance to start giving me problems was my refrigerator. It was making this awful high pitched whirring noise that was causing migraines. I put in a service call with AHS, and the repairman told me that AHS doesn’t cover noise complaints. This information is not in the contract either. The noise started to get worse and worse, so I decided to replace the refrigerator. Now, the refrigerator is no longer cooling or freezing, but the new fridge doesn’t arrive for a week.
Total I have paid out $300 directly to AHS for repairs that have not lasted. I have paid $9,594.45 out of pocket to have items repaired, replaced, and installed. In less than one year, I have paid $9,894.45 which is astonishing to me when I have a home warranty in place. American Home Shield warranty has been completely worthless and a waste of my time and money. I do not recommend. If I could have awarded negative stars, I would have.

This is the fourth consecutive summer that I've had an issue with the capacitors and the freon. The tech told me it's an old unit, and this is going to keep happening. It's repairable because you put in a new capacitor and new freon. But I just spent over $400 last year on freon for a leak that I had to have people come out twice for because the first guy didn't catch the leak.
When I tried to call American Home Shield, I wanted the number to the CEO so I can contact them. The rep told me they couldn't give me that information. American Home Shield assigns somebody and I'd get an email showing who they assign to me and what their phone number is, and showing with no more than a couple of days. It depends on what day it is or what product. If it's the air conditioner now, it's gonna be a tough space where somebody gets out there. My recent claim was a leaky handle valve by the washing machine. The guy was here 15 minutes and out the door. Also, AHS put in a new air conditioner and furnace. One year, it was the furnace that went out, then the air conditioner. AHS has replaced both of those within the last five years.
I’ve only had one issue. I has the ones where I had to pay my deductible up front. So, I paid my deductible upfront and I ended up either it fixed itself or something happened. So, I never got my deductible back. And AHS said, “Once you pay it, you lose it.” I said, “Well, you didn't have anybody come fix it either.” Other than that, AHS has come in handy. I've had some major appliance issues over those years, and it balanced out. But when I needed AHS, they were there. I've had a furnace, air conditioners, dishwashers, several things at different times. So, peace of mind is why I have it. I'd rather have that than have to worry about coming up with 5,000 or $10,000 for them to do something.

My AC wasn't kicking on. I called American Home Shield. They set a schedule up, the contractor came out and figured it wasn’t a simple flush or a tune-up and ended up escalating that. I got another call, set it up, and another agent came out. I had this agent who was this cool kid, and he shut it down to a circuit board. And another guy came out and fixed it. But it was all fast. AHS made it easy. Instead of me having to figure out how to go through it, they knew who they were taking for each of the whatever problem.

They've contacted me about four days ago about my dryer. They couldn't find parts for it. So they're replacing the whole dryer. I should be getting something from them that way. They're coming from Whirlpool. So as far as products, this would be the first time I've had anything like that. One time, they had to replace the air conditioner for us because the one that they put in didn't work appropriately, so they put a second one in and it's still cooling right now. Right now, I am satisfied with them.

We moved into a home that has AC units which are almost 30 years old and I've had to call AHS several times. At some point, I had a little bit of frustration because the units are so old that you can't even get parts for them. AHS wound up having to get a whole new compressor. But they don't know what the limitations are when it's time to replace it or they seem to just decide when they want to if they ever have to replace them. Plus, I'm having to pay for the old Freon that they have to use because they don’t even make the Freon part anymore. So, they have to use a different Freon.
If I'm unhappy like that, then I should probably break down and buy my own units. But that's the whole point of that insurance stuff. I'm not gonna say it's a terrible thing because they keep them up and running, but at some point, it gets cost-prohibitive for the consumer. But we've had American Home Shield now for a few years, so we've been okay with them. They served their purpose. I had some recent issues and they took care of them but they're a bit on the slow side and you can't understand who you're talking to. When you submit a claim, you rarely talk to a person in the US.

Our refrigerator wasn't cooling properly. The temperature went down in the refrigerator and the freezer then it would go up then down again. It was very erratic. I called American Home Shield and told them I needed somebody out here to look at the refrigerator. I was given the name and the telephone number of the service company. Their tech called within a couple of hours and set up the service for the following day, which was a Sunday. He came in and did his thing. He told me what he was doing every step of the way. Everything is operating wonderfully now. This repair has helped me 100%. I would have lost everything in the refrigerator and the freezer.

We were smelling gas in our laundry room and it turned out that the hot water heater had a leak in it. I submitted a claim online with AHS and their website was to the point and easy to navigate through. The tech, Howard, said there was a problem with the knobs and it was an old unit, so gas was leaking out more than it should have been. He was great and now, gas is not leaking anymore. He also educated us. At the time, we were scared and thinking about going to a hotel but he said unless we were seeing waves, then our house wouldn't blow up.
Aside from that, since the unit was replaced because he couldn't repair it, our water doesn't get cold as quickly. We're a family of four and water was getting cold after the second shower. So fast forward, we can tell that it is a better situation with a better unit because now all four people can take a shower without waiting an hour in between. I have nothing but good experiences with American Home Shield, and I've referred them to a family member and a friend. I've heard horror stories about different home or car warranty companies, but I've submitted four claims with AHS and I have never had a issue.

Worst company ever. Worst company ever! Biggest rip off. They send out incompetent service people that are pissed because they apparently don’t pay them well. The service request will take weeks on weeks to complete. American Home Shield supplies the material, so the company has to wait for the materials to be shipped to them before any repair is done. Then the material is cheap and ends up breaking again. Don’t let them take your $. Also, if you try to cancel early they give you the runaround. You will spend like 90 min trying to cancel. Then to top it off they charge you $52 dollars to cancel early! Wow!

I continued my American Home Shield because even though it's getting a little pricey monthly, it saves me money overall. When making a claim, it only takes like a couple of minutes to get it through and a service person usually comes within a couple of days. I did a claim for my dishwasher and American Home Shield ended up replacing it. The guys had a little bit of trouble installing it because whoever put the original little thing in, had in a funky size. My husband ended up picking a bunch of the installation so that was good.
On the whole, I've never had a problem with any of the technicians I've had. They're usually really nice. I have had the same people a couple of times because I've had a couple of problems with my AC that I actually got replaced last year, too. I really have I've saved more money with the home warranty. I considered dropping it because they've gone up on it monthly. But someone strongly urged me to keep it. I tell people every time they buy a house to get a home warranty.

I had a claim for my ice maker, a leak in the sink, and my microwave that was sparking fire. AHS sent Economy Heat & Air out and they ordered some little brain box to go in the microwave, but it was a temporary fix. Economy were really nice but for the ice maker, they ordered 11 parts for it and they weren't able to fix it. Economy's guy who came out to check my refrigerator also said that it needed something on the inside of the ice maker, a Samsung, and that was really expensive. So they don't deal in that and they would not fix it.
AHS then sent out Hers and His Plumbing and told me that the plumbing was a different ticket which would cost another $75. But they still weren't able to fix the issue and the reps at AHS started giving me the runaround. So I called them and had a feud of words. When I first called AHS about the ice maker, they accepted my claim and never called me back to tell me that they don't fix ice makers. When I called again, they said they didn't fix ice makers. Some of them have such thick accents and when I asked for a supervisor, they said there was no supervisor around. I wanted them to tell me why the ice maker was not covered and I told them that I wanted to speak with someone who spoke English. But I never got to talk to anybody who spoke English or could explain to me why the ice maker was not covered.
I've been going back and forth with AHS on this. I was calling them on a Monday, then I called back on a Friday and I asked whoever answered the phone if they wrote down what I said because the other reps I talked to would tell me that they didn't know more about what I was calling about. Aside from that, their contractors are horrible and they need to quit the lies they make in the commercials. They said that if an appliance needs replacing, they'll give you the same thing you had or something equal to what you had. But I've been with them for 15 years and they did not replace my air conditioner and heating unit. They kept sending techs out and had three compressors put on it. Then, I had to pay for the Freon which cost $800.
AHS also sent me a microwave in place of the one I had and it was trash. It was cheap and was nothing compared to what I had. Then for my stove, their guys came and got the stove because they couldn't fix it. I told them that I got a self-cleaning oven and what they should send me must have that, because I have severe bronchitis and asthma, so I cannot spray fumes. But when they sent me the replacement, it does not have an automatic oven cleaner on it and it was nothing like what I had. Then, they said they'd send me a check and I'd put the rest of the money with it.
Long story short, I called them last week and told them to cancel my contract. The rep told me that somebody would call me back in five days and ask me some questions. They have called back a couple of times, but I have not answered the telephone because when I called last Friday, they just played music and nobody ever picked up the phone.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

American Home Shield had lied to me one time. I called first. The rep was very helpful to me. When I called back, I got somebody else. It was about the antifreeze. The copay is too much, plus what you have to pay every month. AHS told me they wouldn't put the antifreeze. We had to do that ourselves. But I found out something there. So, we were in this house for three weeks with no air conditioning. When I got back again while the guy was out here talking, he said, “You are covered. ’Cause you have the platinum. And when you got that platinum, you are covered. They're supposed to put it in.” He was so good. I love that guy. And he said, “Let me pull it up and show you.”
While he was here, I called AHS. I'm glad I got the rep I got before. She said, “Yes. You are covered.” I said, “Okay. That's all I want to know.” I love her. She was good and she helped me. That's why I like to call early in the morning to get her. She's the one that I love to talk to. When I call a bit later than that, I get somebody else. You could get the wrong one that will give you the right answer, or get the right ones that will give you the right answer. AHS needs to get rid of a couple of ones they got working there.
When you get platinum, that’s it. But me paying a $100 copay? I lost $300. The first time, the guy couldn't do this or that. “You have to do that yourself. That gotta come out your pocket.” That was $100. But he couldn’t do that. That was another $100. I live on a fixed income. I don't work. I'm disabled, yet I was taken advantage of. When you pay $79 a month for platinum and if you end up anything breaks in the house, and somebody has to come out and fix it, that's $100 copay. That should come down on that copay. Because when I had them, when I had them a long time ago, it wasn't $100. My copay was $60. And a lot of us is upset about that. I’m gonna straighten it down because the way they would do wasn’t right. There are seniors. I’m a senior. I have a teenager. And I have my little dog. We were completely miserable.
And the guy duped me on the money I had to pay out of my pocket myself. He didn’t even fix it. So, the boy that came out here and fixed my air conditioning said, “This is what he did.” He is good. He had to take a picture of what the one I hired to do it did. He said, “Miss, you know what? So, he just got your money for nothing.” I said, “Well, here's a picture he took.” He said, “Uh-uh. He didn't do nothing.” And I'm not gonna be used anymore like that. They better not start that mess anymore.

Everything is great now.
American Home Shield is prompt, easy to get ahold of, and they didn't ignore us. When I first bought our house two years ago, we were set up with another company and you couldn't get ahold of that other company. You could only email and on everything, they said to get it fixed and they would reimburse us. It was kinda odd. After the year was up, they dropped us because they didn't want us to work with them anymore. And since I dealt with American Home Shield for my clients so I just got them.

My refrigerator was acting up and I had the impression that American Home Shield would send somebody right over. But they don't. They call the serviceperson and they schedule you according to whatever they have. I couldn't get anybody out here for about a week. When the guy came out, he told me what went wrong with the refrigerator. Then he called American Home Shield and they had to order the parts themselves then send the parts to him. It was a total of 21 days. By this time, the food was dead in my refrigerator.
I have two rentals that I signed up also. I've had issues with both of them and another thing with my home. On my rental house, the tenant called up and said the washing machine was draining back into the house. It was a week after that a guy came in but he couldn't fix it. Some of the times, I've been fortunate and they said four or five days. On one of them, they even came out in two days.
On another claim, because the contractor was ordering, they called them and told them what part needed to be ordered. I had to wait for that week to get it because the pool pump in my back yard died. I didn't know what it's called. It's a water pump and I needed a water filter. They had to order that, but it took five weeks. When he came back out with it, he didn't fix both parts. He said the screw was broken and he had to order it. I went on vacation for two week so here I am waiting again. Everything comes from China now, and I thought I was getting the Hayward pump because that's what my pool had, but they order whatever parts. Also, one of the things that was strange is I live in Sacramento and they have people from all over. For my pool, they hired somebody in Auburn. But so far, I've been happy with American Home Shield. I'm getting what I pay for.

They asked me to take pictures of the appliance that I was having a problem with, and all that may be handled before they get here so I don't wait two or three weeks to get a part. Or sometimes, the people that they send wouldn't even contact me. I'd have to contact them and then they take forever to get out here. Then I'd call and say, “When is it coming in?” I was not satisfied with it. But the last time I called, I was satisfied. I liked the last contractor that was out here. American Home Shield has bad AC contractors. One came out to repair one of my ACs that wasn’t working and he said what he did, wrote it up and left. A few weeks later, my AC overflowed and cracks in my ceiling. The water went through my ceiling, through my floor and then to the garage. When I checked his work, he had not done what he said he did. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent another contractor. The guy documented the things the first guy did wrong. He did not drain the line, which was why it clogged up and overflowed, and he said he cleaned the drain line out but didn’t. I got a whole gallon full of muck out of the drain line when the next AC contractor came and cleaned it himself. The first guy also wired the float valve backwards. The float valve cuts it off when it starts to accumulate water and it never cut off because he wired it wrong, which was what caused it to overflow.
I sent a letter to American Home Shield describing these problems, put pictures of what happened and put the documents of the next AC contractor documenting what he found. But I never heard anything back from AHS on that. I will have to take action if I want them to fix the damages. So, that’s one bad experience. We’ve had several other bad experiences with AC contractors. But once in a while, we get a good AC contractor and we have a good experience. AHS’ service other than AC is okay but I would like them to improve on it by coming to fix my house that their air conditioning contractor damaged.

I immediately went online scheduled an appointment, called the contractors explained my family's needs, and was told that I would have to wait another 2 days for my AC to be serviced and they could not give me a time.
Today is Tuesday, June 14, 2022, the appointment is for June 16, 2022, time - unknown. I looked up the temperatures for June 15th & 16th, and it's showing 105 & 111 degrees. I called AHS and explained to them what the contractor told me. I asked the AHS representative if there was any way I could get a list of their affiliated contractors to see if there was an earlier date for servicing my AC. The AHS rep told me that he would have to cancel my existing appointment to get a new one (although that's not what I asked) and he could not help with any further options. Not sure why it's so difficult for AHS reps to help their customers find the best service options by simply calling around but I guess that's not a part of their customer service satisfaction policy. American Home Shield sent a person out a week and a half ago. He said he couldn't replace the fan because it was too high off the floor. They canceled the plan, then I called twice. So, I called yesterday and we stayed on the phone for almost half an hour. They tried to give me all kinds of excuses. They wanted to charge me for reopen a claim for which they messed up and I disagreed with it.
I was disgruntled with the way that they handled the claim because they closed it. They didn't even consult me. And it never was touched. The guy came out took the light fixture off the fan, checked everything out, and the light worked but the fan didn't. He said it needed to be replaced and he would go back to his office and tell his supervisor to contact AHS to give the job to someone else. Instead of doing that, they canceled it and said they wouldn't change it. So, we went through all kinds of things and I took all the excuses away from them. The gentleman that came over from Eric Electric changed the fan and it took him 45 minutes. So, AHS sent the wrong person out the first time. The second guy did a great job. Both claims have been closed and everything turned out great, and both technicians did a great job in completing the job and it was professional.

So last year in July of 2020 we made a claim about our a/c. Paid the 100.00 They came out and looked at unit said it needed a evap coil and 8 lbs of Freon. That being said it was 1,200 to fix. We currently didn’t have it due to a new baby and other financial responsibilities. So we just used the upstairs unit the rest of the summer. Fast forward to 2021. I called AHS and told them I had the money and would like to fix now. Keep in mind it has been turned off since the previous July. They proceeded to tell me I had to pay another 100.00 because it’s been over 1 month since they last came out. Nothing has changed. Just take my money and fix the issue. Right?! So paid another 100.00 and the contractor told me they didn’t need to come back out so they just ordered the parts. Finally we had ac again or so I thought.
A week later it wasn’t blowing cold air. Called them back out. The joint they fixed leaked all the Freon out. I was not paying 90.00 per pound again. Lucky me I didn’t have to. Fast forward to June 2022 no ac again. Called. Made a claim. Paid another 100.00. So now I’m 300.00 deep in service call fees plus my 160.00 I’ve been paying monthly for 3+ years. For them to tell me that oh it’s leaking from the same spot. Now they want me to replace condenser, 3lbs of Freon 420.00, surge protector 375.00 and a pad for condenser 150.00 and electrical work 250.00 for a grand total of 1195.00. It hasn’t been 1 year since it was last worked on.
Thinking about of opening a savings account and putting what I normally pay AHS away. We currently had the kitchen remodel and bought a new washer and dryer. So pretty much everything is now and under a manufacture warranty for a year. For anyone who took the time to read this take your time and shop around. Look at the fine print. Me personally would not recommend this service to family, friends or even a stranger for that matter. All in all spent the ac has cost my family and I a total of 2,995 in the past two years with service fees. Plus what I’ve paid in for 3 years 5,760.00. Total for both 8,755.00 DON’T DO IT!!

The service was great for they replaced my air conditioner recently. I was very happy with how fast they got that turned around. The AC people were here the very next day to check it out and my system got installed within a week. They were really fast in terms of responding to me any time I had a phone call for them or a question. The guy that replaced the air conditioner was very efficient. He had the whole thing up and fixed within three hours. But it was a whole different story when I had the refrigerator repaired.
Where I'm located, AHS only uses Sears for repairs, so it was very slow. My fridge claim last time took about six weeks to get repaired. AHS kept sending people out here and they thought the issue was one part, then another part, and then another part. On the fourth time, they got the actual thing fixed. I was very, very angry about this fridge. We were fortunate because we have a garage fridge, so we were able to move all the stuff from there and make it work. My dishwasher claim was the same thing. But the dishwasher went a little faster because they ended up not being able to find the parts, so they had to give me a brand new one. Every single contractor we've had has been great.

I'm dissatisfied right now with the air conditioner situation. I'm ill and I called and told them I need to have this air conditioner come out. Sometimes what happens is, maybe because they're so large, they're not very good at handling and seeing things through to fruition. Especially now that they're more automated, they rely a lot on the customer using their portal. You have to call in. When you get them, they're wonderful, but there's not customer care. There's not someone saying, "Hey, wait a minute. She put this claim in three weeks ago. She said it was an emergency. She's sick. Her air conditioner doesn't cool. She's an asthmatic." I put in, "I need someone out here yesterday." But no one came and I had to call twice. And then they were, "Oh, we're so sorry." So, they waived the fee.
Recently, the refrigerator was leaking, so I had the gentleman come out. We weren't aware that it was leaking. So, the floor was all wet. The gentleman was really good. He said the drain hole was blocked. He unplugged it and he was great. The fridge was working fine when he left.
I've had American Home Shield decades for different houses that I've had. The two things that I like about them is the accessibility. They seem to be everywhere or nationwide because I was military. I moved a lot and I lived in different places. Also, they have a very low deductible. A lot of these other places, they want you to pay $175 for each visit. But AHS has been lower than the other guys all 20-something years that I've used them.

Angel Appliances did a wonderful job. When they initially took a look at the unit, they found the gear case was broken. They ordered the parts and when the tech opened it up afterward, he found some other problem. American Home Shield's claim admission process is very simple. But whenever I call the customer service, what I don't like is the calls are routed overseas somewhere. Sounds like India. So, it is always an issue with them trying to understand what's going on. Just going back and forth, it’s a language barrier there. But the website is easy to navigate, and I like that better. Also, the contractor came within 48 hours, and were very professional. But I need to call them because the ac blows the air lightly.

American Home Shield said they were going to give me the new refrigerator, but they offered me a check instead. But at the time, I said I'd rather have the refrigerator. Other than that, everything's been awesome. I've recommended them to several of my friends and family because I had no idea this was such a good thing. When my garbage disposal quit working, the tech came out, looked at it, and he tried it but it didn't work. But he fixed it, and it's been working ever since. So it was very nice.
I have used American Home Shield several times since I bought this house and I've been really, really happy. I've liked everybody that they sent out. Everybody that I've dealt with has been extremely good at what they did. They've all been able to either fix it or replace whatever needed fixing or replaced. They replaced my hot water heater, which I'm very thankful for. The only thing that seems to be recurring is the upstairs air conditioner. The contractor came twice recently. They fixed something but then, during the night, it sounded like one of Elon Musk's rockets. So I called them and they came back and they fixed that too. It seems to be okay now.

American Home Shield gives me peace of mind knowing that if something breaks down, I can call and have someone come out and look at it. I’m not worried about being out of thousands and thousands of dollars for each thing that goes wrong. I've had six claims in, and American Home Shield took care of all of it. It cost $75 per claim, but I didn’t realize that you can do multiple issues in one claim. I kept on putting in separate claims and I paid for each. For the contractors, their goal is to fix a unit, not to replace it, which I like a lot. Home warranty companies can’t afford to go out and replace a brand new AC unit for $6,000, when you’re paying only 1,800 bucks or 2,400 bucks per year.

It didn't take the contractor long to come out, but putting in the claim took the longest time. So I have been without a washing machine for a whole month because AHS doesn't have a way for me to tell them that that's what I need to be fixed. But the tech was on time. He did what he was supposed to do. He gave me information and resources and told me what I needed to buy to make sure that everything was working perfectly. Updated on 7/25/2022: I have a previous open request through Consumer Affairs. I was working with Robert ** at AHS and he closed the request without answering me. I have been waiting on an A/c service call for sometime. All techs that they have sent out have said it needs replaced but all Ahs will authorize is more freon, not fixing the issue. If Robert is unable to assist, I would like his supervisor to contact me. My phone # is on the contract as is my email address. He states he called me, but no missed calls or a voicemail. I need follow up. Not having a correctly working A/c for months is difficult with 100+ degree temps.
Original review: I normally would never turn to social media, but I am at a loss. I have had my Air Conditioner looked at 5/2021 and had Freon added 3 or 4 times between May & Aug of 2021 out of pocket since only $10 a pound is covered. I was told then there wasn’t enough proof of a Freon leak so the unit wouldn’t be replaced. Fast forward to today, and one again Freon had to be added. I have had 2 Ahs companies tell me that the unit needs replaced but that all Ahs will do is add Freon. I had a company of my own add Freon as well in 2020. This company also works for Ahs and says it needs replaced. At what point do we listen to the contractors? I attempted to discuss with customer service but all the reps are so scripted I’ve given up there as well.

I’ve had American Home Shield for four months when the microwave on my microwave/oven combination stopped working. I just ignored it because you had to buy the whole unit, top and bottom. I had previously replaced the heating element of the oven myself so I figured that nothing else was going to go wrong. I would just put up with not having a microwave for a while when, without the microwave, we could still survive. However, the controls are on the same electrical pad. So eventually, the controls went out and I couldn't do anything. At the same time, the washing machine started leaking. It wouldn't throw out the water.
I called American Home Shield and because they’re both utility things in the kitchen, I could call one time and pay $100. They sent someone and the guy probably fixed the washing machine. But the oven/microwave had to be totally replaced. I paid AHS $55 a month but it's 59 now. It's gone up a little. But for that one visit of $100, I got a new microwave and oven combination. And I thought the washing machine was fixed. However, it started leaking so, the guy came back and he said he thought he fixed it. But it was an old washing machine that had a steel drum and he said it’s not even being made anymore.
I got them all replaced, which sold me on AHS so much. But since then, they've done other things. They've replaced what they call the motherboard to my air conditioning. It wouldn't turn on and the tech said there were some electrical problems. He made sure that the switches in the breakers were all right. He said it was an electrical problem in the motherboard and he could replace it. But it's an old unit so it might take a long time to get it. He had a few in his van and he looked at what he got. He came back and said he had one that would work, and he put it in.
All the techs have been very nice. We had some trouble with the refrigerator. It wasn't keeping the freezer cold. That was about last Christmas and since then, they've come three different times for the same refrigerator. It seemed to take them a long time to figure out exactly what wasn't working. They'd get it working and then it would stop again. They fixed it and when I called within a month, they didn't charge me $100 again. I've only been charged twice because one time was further away in time. American Home Shield was there when I needed them. They came fairly quickly and always sent people that were responsible. I would highly recommend them.

I know that the call center in Columbia has a standard page to read to the customers. Because if they don’t have answers, you’re screwed. My refrigerator was broken since November of last year. And I went around and around with AHS. It was terrible, about the fan.
That went on from Foster Appliances. I didn’t want to deal with them anymore. And I dealt with Swift which was good with helping me, but they didn’t have the parts. So, AHS sent me to Sears. The kid that came here was so good. I said, “Buddy, I don’t have the part yet.” And he said, “Let me go down there anyway. Let me see what you got.” He came and said, “Yeah, you need a fan.” I said, “I know. I don’t have the parts.” And he said, “You know what? Let me find out what’s going on.”
He called another vendor from Sears in Redlands. He said, “Sir, I believe we might have the fan. So, I’m gonna drive to Redlands” I live in San Dimas. He drove all the way to Redlands, got the part for us, and came all the way back. And when he came back, I wasn’t even here. He said, “Sir, I’ll sit here in the front porch till you get here.” I said, “Buddy, please don’t leave until we get the part.” I was so anxious. Came in, replaced the part, and the fridge is working perfectly. This kid went out of his way. Without him, I would still be without a refrigerator. AHS better keep that thing with Sears people going, and keep Foster and the other ones out of the picture. Sears was fantastic. Also, when AHS replaced my garbage disposal, they were on it. I called in. I paid my money. The guy came in and said, “I’ll be out in 20 minutes,” he was out in 15. It was great.
