American Home Shield's service has been great. I recently had a claim for my hot water heater. The claims process was great. The techs had to come back because they had to replace the water heater. Most of it was covered. I had to pay $700. There have been some changes to the code. It would have been $100, but once they had to make those changes, it was an extra 700.

I had three things going on. I had a leak in the kitchen. The tech didn't have it on his truck, so he's downstairs replacing that now. I had a leaky toilet and a leaky faucet which he wound up replacing a thing in. The guy has been fine. He was supposed to come out last week and he said he'd give me a call Tuesday. But he didn’t, so I gave him a call on Thursday. He told me that he was ill. He said, “I'll call you early next week to schedule a time.” He did. He called this morning and said, “I'm thinking today or tomorrow.” He called me an hour ago and said, “If you're available, I'll be out there in about 30 minutes.”
I have another issue going on with my dryer. The way that AHS is going about it is a little frustrating for me. My dryer was making a loud noise. I requested service. The guy said, “You need a new drum. I'll order it. American Home Shield has approved the purchase. We can't come back out and fix it until you get the parts.” The parts came. They rescheduled the appointment. The guy came out. But, the dryer still does not work at all. When he replaced the drum, it was still making a noise. He told me that the dryer was warped and that he requested that American Shield just go ahead and replace them.
AHS said, “We'll get a second opinion.” But they requested a second opinion from somebody who doesn't even fix Kenmore appliances. I went online today to look at the request ID but it was marked as complete. I went on the little chat and was able to chat with somebody and told her about it. So they got another repair person coming out to take a look at that.
I also used the chat and I asked about renewal and what would the rates look like if I want to lower my service fee, ‘cause right now I pay $100 for the service fee. But they were not able to give me that information. They said, “We can make the changes today if you want.” That was the only way that they could pull the trigger and couldn’t even give me a ballpark of what it would look like. That was a little disappointing. They didn't even refer me to anywhere on the website where I could go in and do a mock-up.

One of my AC units wasn't working. The guy who came out checked the thermostat. He ended up replacing the thermostat and something inside the unit itself. I sent the service request to American Home Shield through the app. The app is good. If I have one complaint, it's about a subsidiary of theirs, ProConnect. I used their services one time. Normally, when American Home Shield comes through, I pay on the app and that's it but when I called ProConnect, which was recommended by them, they charged me $186 and they never fixed it.
Before the guy left, I told him, “Man, please don't leave.” The service was for a dryer vent cleaning, and he didn't go outside. I had actually cleaned the inside of the house myself. I had gone in about eight feet. So, I felt it probably need to be done on the outside but he came into the house and did it. I said, “Man, can you just run the dryer? Because I'm telling you, it's going to fail.” He said, “Hey, if it fails, just call the office again.” I called the office five times. They scheduled me for somebody to come in and redo it. Every time, either an hour before or the day before, they would call me and say, “I have to cancel. Can I reschedule?” On the fifth time they called to tell me that, I just hung up on them.
When I called to complain, they told me, “Well, you don't really have to use them. You could have used anybody you wanted to.” I said, “But your site is recommending these guys." I don't think that's fair. $189 and my dryer still doesn't work. I still have to call somebody else in to come and repair something that I paid them to repair. Every time American Home Shield came out, they took care of me. I like the ease of using AHS. I don't really need to have to talk to anyone, even though they will call me and follow up. I can do everything online. When they tell me they're going to be here, they're going to be here, and they’d be here in the window timeframe that they give me. The response time is very good.

I like to have American Home Shield. The biggest thing for me is I like having my appliances covered. I don't have to come out that big amount of money when something comes up. And I'm able to call AHS, have somebody come by, look at it and whether they would fix it or not, or I get a new appliance. Recently my microwave was messed up. AHS wasn't able to fix it but they replaced it. It was done in a timely manner. Also, the techs were very helpful and professional. I would recommend AHS to anybody.

My refrigerator wasn't cooling properly. So I called American Home Shield and immediately they responded. They asked me what was the issue with the appliance and I told them. Then they scheduled an appointment immediately. It was pleasant. The next day, they sent me a technician. He was promptly on time and he was courteous and very pleasant. He answered all my questions. In no time, they were able to fix the refrigerator. Up until now, my refrigerator is still working. But when ACT Appliances came out, they took care of the issue quickly. It was early in the morning and I was a little bit anxious thinking how long it was gonna take, but they came on time. I was pleasantly surprised.

There's an automatic shut-off on the unit and it somehow got water in it to cause that shut-off to activate and turn it off. That was one of the first things the repair person that came out here checked and that solved the problem. He was very professional, knew what he was doing, very personable. I'd be happy to use him again.

The heating mechanism on the dryer wasn't coming on to dry the clothing. The tech that AHS sent was excellent. He was able to fit me into his schedule right away and was punctual. He gave me some options of some time frames and called me 30 minutes before, so I could leave work. He went right into work and knew what to do. He was able to fix the part on that particular visit. He had to part in his vehicle, so he didn't have to go and find the part or come back. Overall, I had a great experience.

The dishwasher wasn't working. A very nice and professional guy came out and put an electronic board in. It worked for a couple of days. Then as I was walking around the house, I could hear that it was making noticeable alarm noises even when it wasn't on. Then it just stopped working. So, I called back and they sent someone out a week or two later and put another board in. Now, it seems to be working.
I got the prompts first when I did the claim, and then I eventually got a person. They got on the phone pretty quickly. I didn't have to wait very long. I had a little trouble getting someone out here initially because of COVID. The repairman that does this area apparently was exposed. So, it took a couple of weeks to get them out here. But after that, he came out and it's been no problem since. I kind of forgave him for that. I think they should have more than one guy available, but I dealt with it.
The few times I've had to use AHS, their service has been very good and I really needed them. I'm happy with American Home Shield. I don't think I've wasted my money at all. I have had them since 2008 at least in my other home. I got lucky there because I just bought the house. The house is nine years old and right after I signed up, about two months later, my hot water heater went out. AHS replaced it with a brand new one.

We called to make our claim on an air conditioning unit, and American Home Shield sent someone out from Chilly Willy. The guy showed up in a pickup truck and did not have a business card with him. He went to the air conditioning unit but never actually went to the unit inside my home. He said, “You need a new compressor,” and that was the end of that conversation. I said, “Great. When will I know that they're coming to fix it?” He said, “They will call you.” I didn't hear anything for a good 10 days.
I called and the company put me on hold then said “Well, the compressor’s in town. That's good news.” The next thing I knew, they didn't call me again to set up any kind of appointment. I called again within two days and said, “I live in the desert, it's 100 degrees out and this has ridiculously gone now two weeks without air conditioning.” The rep said to me, “Well, you have to pay $800.” I said, “What's the $800 for?” I could hardly understand what she was saying because they have a bit of an accent. She said something to the effect of the cost is $400 because I needed electrical work, and another $400 to bring something up to code. I asked for something in writing to show me what it was about, but I never received that.
Meanwhile, we already had an inspection on the air conditioner, and no one ever told us anything about that prior to Chilly Willy even coming out. I said, “Well, that's ridiculous because we have up to $1,250. We're not supposed to have to pay anything.” They said to me, “Okay, we're gonna call you back.” I said, “Would you please call me back by the end of the day so I know what to expect?” “Oh, yes. Absolutely. We'll call you back.” I never heard another word. Finally, a friend of mine tried to call the rep. In the meantime, my husband contacted the Better Business Bureau because we were at our wits’ end. The company said, “Oh, well, we can't do anything with you now because you've contacted the Better Business Bureau so you're basically on your own.”
Long story short, I had the air conditioner fixed on my own dime of $1,600 because I had to. As it turns out, I didn't need any electrical work or any kind of retrofitting. Chilly Willy was fraudulent. They wanted to charge me $800 for something that didn't even need to be done. Also, American Home Shield is supposedly going to give me $1,015, but we have not received the money yet. No one's ever contacted us to tell us how to get it or what we need to do. They also told me that it will not be covered under any warranty. If I call them again about the air conditioner, supposedly, I will not be covered. I find this very hard to believe and I've been very patient and kind. It's been awful.
All in all, I'm really very unhappy, and I am in the construction industry. I understand what goes on but I didn't get anything. No information. I'm pretty upset and I feel people should know about this Chilly Willy company for one thing. I even said to American Home Shield, “Why don't you get a different vendor for us? Please. We need to get this fixed.” “I'm sorry, ma’am. We can't do that.” It's really so unprofessional. I own my own business so I know what it's like to be in business and to have to try to take care of people and get other people to work for you. This was beyond.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

I had a busted pipe in the kitchen ceiling, so we had plumbing service come out. The contractor had to access the ceiling so they had to get authorization, punched a hole, and fixed the pipe. Then 510 came out after the fact and did the ceiling repair. The technicians were very professional and pretty prompt. There was nothing that was delayed. Their response wasn't necessarily immediate, but they showed up when they were scheduled. So far, the experience has been pretty good.
I like American Home Shield's responsiveness when I put in a service request. Sometimes, there's a little bit of a delay with the contracted folks to come do the work. But when I have called American Home Shield, I’ve experienced them acting on the concern. So that's always pretty good. Some subcontracting or contracted folks are better than others. I’ve experienced a little bit of both historically. So it's an important thing for American Home Shield to maintain being very selective on who they subcontract.

The biggest benefit to having a home warranty is I know how much it's gonna cost to fix something. We haven't had too many giant things go wrong, and I assume that, one of these days, we will and we're going to be really happy that we have it. The cost of stuff is more spread out, and American Home Shield seems to know what they're doing. Sometimes though, I have to call the assigned company. When my air conditioning was broken and they said, "Okay, you're gonna get a call within two days from this company. They'll come fix it," I didn't get the call. It was almost like the HVAC company was so busy, "If they don't bother us, we're not going to bother them." I've just gotten to, now, calling them myself as soon as I get the email saying I'm gonna get a call.
I have a really old Sears washer from 1998 and I love it because it fills up with water. The new ones are so economical, I don't feel they clean very well at all. Sears always comes out and fixes my old washer, and I keep being worried that they're gonna say, "Nope, sorry, you gotta replace it," but it hasn't happened yet. Also, I get mad when American Home Shield doesn't send me the Sears technicians. They did that for a dishwasher a couple of years ago and I was upset about that because the person did not seem to know what was going on. Now, I know to request the Sears people because there are these two guys that always come and they're awesome. In fact, I had to request once. Now, they just seem to give me those people. If AHS didn't give me Sears, I might drop the home warranty. I wouldn't because there are other things in my house, but I need to have Sears to fix a Sears washer. That's a no-brainer.

The tech from Delta Home came out and fixed my air a week ago, and it worked for like four hours and it went out. So, I've been out of air for a week. They're supposed to come back out today. I've also got a couple of things. The hot water heater wasn’t working and the tech had ordered a part for it. Then I've got an unusual stove and American Home Shield is trying to find somebody to work on it.
I had to call AHS to get them to find a technician to come work on what I needed to be done. I called the people that came out and they said that I had to call AHS. Then AHS would have to call them to say to come back out again. AHS might not have the right people under contract that's supposed to work on everything. The guy came out here and got my air conditioner working, but it didn't work too long. Maybe I got a bum technician. He just overlooked something completely.

When A-Town came out here, I explained to Aaron that my washer was full of water. It had gone through the wash but would not rinse. It had a code of OE. Aaron used a special thing and got it to spin. I had taken all the clothes. I had wrung them out and had to go to the laundromat, wash them, and came back home and dried them. He put it on the special spin. The water spun out. He said, "Oh, okay. It's fine. Put a load of clothes in." I put a load of clothes in. He only stayed here for a little bit. He never stayed to see a full load wash. So from the wash to the spin cycle that was about 20 minutes, I was calling him saying, "I'm having the same problem. I've got the O3 code and it's not spinning.” He looked up the information. He said, "Well, that sounds like the pump. The code for the pump."
He came back out here. He's been here like five times. I even told him, “It takes two times for things to dry in my dryer.” He said that the dryer was fine. He said the duct may just need to be cleaned. I got an email from AHS' sister company today talking about a duct special. So I'll do that. He did not bring a pump when he came out the second time. He came out and said, "Well, it was working for me. I don't know why." So he fiddled again, still didn't bring the pump the second time, fiddled again and said, "Well, it's spinning." I sad, "It couldn't spin on me." Then, I once again put the clothes in there. He still did not wait for the full cycle for it to go and another code came on and I can't remember that one. He said it was something like the agitator.
Then he came back out. This is the third that he put the agitator things in. They’re four long tubes in the top back. Then again, told me to put a full load in. “It's okay.” I put another full load in. It still did not spin. I called him in 15 minutes because this one didn't spin after the wash. He came back out and said I needed a pump. I said, "That was the first code I gave you that you said that it needed." The very first one was OE. So I once again had to take clothes to the laundromat and wash them out. Then he came back out because it still wasn't working after that. Now, he's got the motherboard. He said that it was something in the motherboard. He said at that point, he did not know if AHS would replace the washer or continue to fix it because now it's getting expensive. The guy just came today to get this nasty, stinky smelling water out of my washing machine. We've had to deal with this since Friday morning.
He was gonna call me Friday evening. I didn't hear from him. I called him this morning and he called me back and said he was still waiting on a response. Every time I was having trouble, it was with a spin cycle. He did not one time wait. He would go outside and talk on the phone 10 minutes, but he would not wait for my washing machine to go. He would not stay here 35 minutes to wait for my washer to finish. What he would tell me is, again, "Put a full load in. And if something happens, call me or I'll call you back in 40 minutes." I felt like I wasn't important enough for him to wait. It was almost like every time I was being called a liar because I said, "It's not doing this." Then he was telling me to redo this and I'm still getting the same code.

Last year, I called American Home Shield when I had a problem with the pipes that were frozen. Liberty came and they told me that something was wrong with the unit outside and they said that it would leak, so they needed to change the whole thing outside. I agreed to do it. I paid almost $2,000 out of my pocket. For the whole summer, it ran well. Then when I started this year, I was wondering how come it was blowing air but it's not cooling. So, I requested a repair and AHS sent the same company. They checked it and they said my Freon was totally empty.
They said they were gonna request something, and then they would come back in a couple of days. They said something was wrong inside. There was a leak in one of the valves. They told me AHS is just gonna pay $10 per pound for the Freon, but I'm gonna need full Freon. I really want to speak to American Home Shield to ask why they charged me $130 to bring somebody here and then the mechanic charged me like 340 for the small leak. The good thing is they gave me a receipt so I could prove to AHS that I really paid. Overall, I’m satisfied because when I requested the service, within five minutes, somebody called. Within two hours, someone was already here. So, that one was excellent, especially since it’s getting hot.

I've got a claim for a pool pump. I'm not satisfied with the way that was going. So, I gotta get back with American Home Shield and figure that out. It has been going on for a while, but I understand that they haven't found somebody to do it. This lady called and she's hard to understand and none of the information can be sent to me via my email. She wants me to write everything down and there's a lot of stuff to copy down. That did not make any sense to me. So, she said, "Well, you can find your own technician," which I don't have a problem with that.
And she wants to give me a list of 60 people that I can't use. I said, "You can't just send me the list." "Nope, gotta write them down." And I said, "Well, that doesn't make any sense." And all the stipulations. So, they want to see the bid, and they have to prove it, they said that I have to pay for it, and I have to mail a receipt to a PO box somewhere, and get reimbursed, which I don't have a problem paying for. But it seemed everything was handled well until this. On another claim, the bearings were out in the washing machine. The Sears technician came out. Did a great job. It only took a few days, and then they had to order some parts, which took a bit of time, another couple of weeks. The experience with the washing machine was great. I question the individuals that AHS uses. Whenever I go online, I see nothing but negative reviews. I don't understand why they ignore the reviews and continue to have these individuals that they send to innocent people's homes. It's ridiculous. I had a claim for the AC that was blowing hot and it also needed maintenance. I went through AHS to hire a contractor just in case it wasn't something simple because sometimes it's something extremely simple, which it was that I discovered. They were going to replace a board, which was perfectly fine. My thermostat was set to the wrong type of system. I hired the service individuals for maintenance upgrades. I asked, "Do you need me to make sure the water is turned on outside?" I've hired people to do maintenance of my HVAC system before. I see them take the temperature of the air, the level of the Freon, and they water everything down. They clean out the coils. I've watched it before.
The tech looked confused and looked at me surprised like, "Oh, yeah, you need to do that." They didn't even do the maintenance. They opened a call to replace the coil. This was in a major heatwave and it was hitting over 100 degrees here. They said they could be done on Wednesday. It was Friday that this happened. And if you look at the reviews, what everybody was saying in the reviews was what happened here. It was just ridiculous. AHS' contractors reflect the company.

I liked the last service I had. The man that came and did my stove was great. But I'm having problems with my air conditioner every year. Every year, the same problem. It ain't working again this year. I ain't even called American Home Shield yet because I don't like dealing with these people coming out there, claiming they fix something, and cost my husband $1,000 every time they come out to put some damn Freon in that thing. Also, I can never get into a manager or a supervisor because we shouldn't have to pay $1,000 for Freon every year. I wish I could find another Home Shield company.

I've had a few claims, and so far, so good. One claim was for the refrigerator. First, American Home Shield sent one of their service providers who came twice but couldn't figure out how to fix it. They had to get somebody else who specialized in Viking refrigerators and that guy was able to fix it, although it took three weeks to get the parts. However, that's a supply chain problem and I don't think that's anything to do with them. Another claim was for a pool pump that was down. They handled that and I was happy with it. All in all, having American Home Shield has saved me money.

When the gentleman came out and did the bathroom fans for us a month ago, his service was great, but I had to wait a week just to get a service call, and then, he didn't show up. It was supposed to be between 10:00 and 2:00, and he didn't show up till 7 that night. I was a little bit upset about the fact of the timing. Somebody should have called me from his company saying he was running behind. But overall, I'm 100% pleased with everything I've received from Home Shield. It's a pleasure dealing with the people that are involved with Home Shield versus, every once in a while, having a little bit of displeasure. It's primarily because people don't communicate, not because it's bad service. I'm extremely pleased with the technicians. They all seem to be very knowledgeable.

The first time I had to call American Home Shield was about my AC around March. They assigned someone and the first concern I had was when I looked at the reviews online of the person that they had assigned, it was terrible. I called up and asked if I have to go with this contractor and they said I have to go with what they give me. I told them that the reviews are terrible and that I didn't feel very confident about what was going to happen and the experience that I was going to have. Also, it was my first time and they explained to give the contractor 24 hours to get back to me.
In 24 hours, I didn't hear from them so I called. They said the technician makes the appointment and they call in the morning. I waited the next morning but I didn’t get a phone call. I called that afternoon and the technician said he called but he didn't get an answer. The number that they were calling was not the correct number. But American Home Shield has the correct number so I don't know how they didn't have the correct number. On the third day, there was still no call. I called back and they said the tech said he called but there was no answer. This went on for a week.
After a week, I called American Home Shield back and said, “I don't know what's going on with these people.” The people answering the phones can't set an appointment and the person who's supposed to be calling me for an appointment says they're calling but they're not calling. I had to fight but they gave me somebody else and I felt really confident about the second contractor they gave me. They came right out within a day and the tech said he would not be able to find this part. I waited a week but there was no response so I called them and they said they were still working on it with American Home Shield.
I waited another week and I called back. The technician said whoever answered the phone contacted the technician that I have been talking to all along. He said that that technician told me that they couldn’t do anything and to just call American Home Shield back and say they couldn't find the part and they don’t work with American Home Shield anymore. He never told me that. I talked to him a week ago and he said they were still working on it.
I called American Home Shield and told them what he said. They called him and he told them a totally different story. He said that he was still working on it. Then, the following week, he called me back and said the same thing to me. He told me to tell American Home Shield they couldn't fix it, they couldn't find the part, and they don't service with them anymore. This went on for another week or so, where every time American Home Shield would call him, he would act like everything was fine but then he would tell me something different. I said to put him on the phone while I’m on the phone and he wouldn’t take the call. He wouldn’t let them transfer over. I fought and fought and finally, somebody agreed to give me a new contractor. The people who I ultimately got were wonderful.
Another claim was when out of nowhere, the stove just started blinking this error message. The tech came out and troubleshot everything. American Home Shield called me up and said my options were to wait 10 weeks for the new part or wait two to three weeks for them to repair it or take $300 to replace it. I can't replace a stove for $300, especially a sliding stove with no back on it. I picked the middle road. If it’s two or three weeks, let’s just fix it.
A week later, I called the tech up but he had no information. I called American Home Shield and asked where are we at in the process but nobody could give me any information. For two weeks, nobody could give me information about the part. Then, it took almost a week to get him back. It was a total of three weeks. Finally, at the three-week mark, the technician called and said he got the part back and he would come on Monday to put it in. He put in the part but the stove is doing the exact same thing it was doing when he took it out three weeks ago. He said he doesn't believe the part is fixable.
When American Home Shield called me, they gave me the impression that they had identified where he was supposed to send this and they have picked who was supposed to repair it. His job was to take it out and ship it to them. She told me it would take them 48 hours to fix it, ship it back to him, and he would come back and put it in. They said that the whole process would take three weeks.
I have anxiety every time about who I’m gonna get and what it’s gonna be like. I got the warranty because every time I need somebody for a little thing here or there, I didn’t know who I could get. I got it to have peace of mind but my experience has been on both ends of the spectrum. I've either had really good people or I've had really bad people and I don't know what I'm gonna get. The reviews are out there so I'm not exactly sure why they contract with people who have such terrible track records. But the good thing is, one or two times, they asked if I have anybody in mind. Also, Kintex Plumbing came out recently and they were good. They got to the root of the issue and got it resolved fast. That was one of my best experiences with them.

When I called them, somebody came over here and looked at it. He was saying that it was new or it was caused by a weather problem that we had, which was not. I called them right after we had a freeze storm but the leakage has caused a buildup of rust at the joint. Whether it was a freeze storm or not, it didn't make any difference from what was happening before then. I tried to explain it to them, but they did not fix it. I was not too happy with that. When I called American Home Shield, I asked them about the contractors that they use. They branch out a little further so I like that. They pool contractors other than just the local contractors I was familiar with. I had done some research for a while online and read their reviews. Their process is easy from the start to finish, and everything can be done online. So I like the ease of that.
The contractor gave me a call and said that they would be coming to install my cooktop. The first time they came out, the tech was unaware that the gas line wasn't with the original order. So he asked me if I wanted him to just put the cooktop on and come back. I was in no big hurry. So he placed an order for the gas line and then he was back in a day. He spent about 30 minutes in here and ended up everything got going. The cooktop works fine.
The tech was funny. He's kind of young but he was professional. He gave me a crazy call. He let me know what the problem was. When a problem arose, he told me what the problem was and explained that he would get it taken care of. Then he came right back and gave me a call again and let me know he was on his way. He came in and got the job done. He explained to me what he had done, and got my signature and he was on his way.

American Home Shield's service is good enough, but it used to be better. The people who have come out for service recently hadn't quite been as good as they used to be. I had an AC claim and it turned out the problem was just a dirty coil. So, the guy sprayed some chemicals on the outside. He didn't take anything off, but he sprayed some chemicals on the outside and rinsed it off. That did make it work, so I shouldn't complain but when I looked on YouTube, people take things off before they clean. Maybe he knew real special how to spray it, and they also gave us two units of Freon. It really is convenient to just call AHS, but my wife has considered switching. So far, we are enjoying American Home Shield's services well. But the two or three small issues that we had, the technicians that they scheduled to come out came within a reasonable time frame and resolved it without having to come back out as of yet. There was a leaking that was hard to find in the kitchen sink. And it was a crack in the pipe, the tech said, right where they connect with each other. So, he said he had to replace either a piece of the pipe or the screw nut type of bolt. I think it was like a bolt on the pipe, the plumbing pipe. And that resolved that leaking issue.
The second piece was the leaking pipe that carries all of the water through the basement from all over the shower, toilet, sinks, and carries all the water, and toilet water as well, through one of the main big pipes that goes to the laundry room and out of the house. It was leaking in the laundry room. So, he came and put some sort of glue seal on it to keep it from leaking. He said the sealant that was already on it was corroded and ate away from over the years. So, he cleaned it out good and put in some other type of glue sealant. I haven't had a leak since. So, that's good. He told me to keep watching it, though.
The third ticket that I had to submit through AHS was for the air conditioner. The tech came out the same day as the plumber that looked for the pipe in the laundry room with the sealant that he put on. That technician who came out for the air conditioner said that we had a Freon leak. And he said it was bad, but he put the Freon in there for me, three pounds of it. I paid him for that. And I thank AHS for at least covering $10 per pound. It wasn’t a lot, but it was helpful, so I’m thankful of that. On top of that, he put in some sort of other liquid to fill up whatever cracks in the lines were for the AC to stop the leak. So far, it’s holding up. It has been a full two weeks. And I haven't had to run the AC much but two days since he came out, but it seems like it’s gonna hold up. I’m pleased with the services. I don't know what to do when a pipe leaking and my AC doesn't work. So, I’m happy with the AC. It’s hot. They jumped right on it and got it working.

I also got the house rekeyed and that was really nice and quick.
Most recently, we started having an issue with the toilet running and the plumber from Sirius came within a few days. It was convenient and he fixed the issue with the toilet pretty easily. He also fixed an issue with our outside faucet, which needed a little bit of extra elbow grease to pull off a part. We had another issue with our bathroom sink, where we weren't using the hot water on one side of the sink because the faucet would leak. He took a look at it and figured out what the problem was. Unfortunately, the part necessary to fix it had to be ordered and they had it shipped. They're going to call us back to have it installed and I’ve been waiting for a little over a week now. The premiums are real high and sometimes I'm left wondering if I'm nearly getting my money's worth. Also, there's always the concern that they would deny things that I thought were covered. I had a pool heater that the warranty service covers and it broke down but they refused to fix it saying that it is a saltwater treatment. They made up all kinds of reasonings and they refused to do it. This recent time I had a claim was fine. There was a switch in the heater that had a blown fuse and Watertight Pool and Spa came out for that. But one of these days, I'm gonna cancel the warranty. I was doing the math between the premium I'm paying every month plus the fact that every time I have to call somebody is another $100. I'm left wondering if I can just set aside that money in an account and then use that to pay for any things that come up. I'll come out cheaper on the other side.

The dishwasher had a broken panel. That was what the tech reported to American Home Shield. And they decided it was more cost efficient to just replace the refrigerator. They initially tried to solve the radiator. It was a fan in the back. And it was supposed to cool down this big compressor that cools the refrigerator. So, it was not functioning for some time. That led to the compressor being broken or failing a bit.
The tech came in, he replaced the fan and the board on the refrigerator in an attempt to solve the issue with the compressor. He did that and weeks went by and I noticed that the issue remained with the refrigerator. Which is the freezer would melt down and refreeze again. So, he came back to try to investigate it. And he identified that there was something wrong with the compressor. You can hear it. It just was constantly running, struggling, it sounds, to turn on and turn off. And it's extremely hot to the touch.
My wife and I got sick because we had some food that was in there, some fish, and we ate it after it might have defrosted and refroze. That was what prompted us. And we can see it in the ice cube tray. The ice would melt and freeze down. After that, they found that it was better to change the refrigerator because that whole thing, the compressor, is a closed system in the refrigerator.
I have a new compressor coming in the mail tomorrow or the next day. I had some trouble with ordering one because all of them were sold out on Americaqn Home Shield's website. So, they gave me some kind of exemption or something to order from Lowe's or take the cash. Lowe's didn't have any that fit. My space in the kitchen is 32 inches and the norm now is 33. So it was hard to find a specific one that would fit. So, I'm just waiting for an official receipt from Home Depot. I tried it yesterday, and it wouldn't load, so I could send AHS the claim and they would pay out the approved amount. That is where I'm at right now. The receipt will load after the delivery. But I'm just waiting for that. AHS has been great. All the staff is very responsive. I've been extremely happy. I've never had home insurance before. But I see the value in it. And I'm going to continue it.

I call American Home Shield when there's an issue. So far, the service has been pretty good and they've been pretty quick. We had two issues and used the warranty. Our AC and our ice machine were acting up within days of each other. The problem was somehow resolved on its own before the techs came and serviced the units. The guy was like, “I'm sorry for coming out for no reason, but everything's fine.” We're still unsure what it was. For our AC, it might have been the filter because we changed the filter. Our house wasn’t cooling. I just turned off the entire unit and it was fixed. The tech that came was polite and he checked everything twice to make sure he wasn't missing anything. That was great.
For the ice machine, it was the same guy who came and fixed it before that showed up. He fixed the unit and it's great. Somehow, a whole bunch of ice had gotten caked up in the back of the machine. The grinding thing wasn't working because there was too much ice and it was too hard. The guy took that away. He said there was something wrong with how it was set in the refrigerator or installed. He tried his best to fix it and make sure it was in the right position. It worked for a little bit then it stopped working. He just came to replace the entire unit. We were prepared that it might come to that. He was great and it was very quick.

It's been great with AHS. I wouldn't deal with other home warranties. Since I've dealt with them over the last few weeks, there hasn't been one issue. Their vendors have been great. But it would be nice if they had some type of system where a property manager can be added to an owner's portal with their own login. I call the claim in but I have to call on the phone and push a button. But that's fine 'cause it works out well. With AHS, I've had somebody contact me immediately in the next day or so. We had American Home Shield before with our first house, and we never had issues with them. When we moved into our new house, my husband had gone with a different company, and we really didn't like them. So, we went back to American Home Shield. I do like the new extra coverages that AHS has for the electronics. That was pretty neat. We got that added when we went back to them. Recently, we had a leak in the basement, and come to find out, it was the little spigot from outside that was leaking. It was really easy to submit the claims to AHS. We just put it online and we got a response back within 24 hours. So, that was great. We've got the techs down as our main people because they come out to repair everything that we've called for.

A year ago, I had a claim for a refrigerator and that went fairly well. Recently, water was running out of the wrong drain hose. The tech told me that it was unleveled up top. He said that right by it leaking, it was going back to the original side it was supposed to drain from and that issue would quit. That did not quit though and instead, it’s running down my wall outside from the ceiling. The contractor is coming back today to rectify the problem.

My recent claim for plumbing went well. It didn't end up being anything more than my washing machine and the plumber couldn't do anything with it. But he was very prompt and quick. However, sometimes the service charges are more than they need to be. I wish it could be 50 then pay up to 100. I'm also paying the monthly fee. For the last two visits, the service would have been less than that had I just called them out. But you run the risk if it’s something more and you haven't paid the 100.

The main capacitor on my air conditioner keeps popping. This is the fourth time I've had to open up a job order for the contractor to come out and have somebody refix it. So I told American Home Shield, "Well, it's weird because if the capacitor keeps blowing up means there's something else wrong with the system that’s blowing that capacitor.” Right? But they don't want to do anything else to send somebody else out there to troubleshoot the air conditioner system to see what's wrong with it.
The actual external air conditioner unit is bad. I expressed my not being pleased with them AHS ast week when I found out that they would just put another capacitor in it. The guy got attitude with me and said, "Well, if you read your contract, it's in the contract that we're just gonna keep replacing the part." And I said, "No. That's not what the contract says." And he stopped typing to me because I was talking on the chat. So, I'm not pleased with them. My house is in Florida, they only use one air conditioner repair company. So my tenant had to wait. The temperature is well into the 90s now and my tenant had to wait a week for them to come out and to fix the air conditioner again. They haven't even come out there. They're not going to come out until Tuesday, until tomorrow, so the 7th.
I can go to Home Depot. I went and looked, the capacitor for the air conditioner is 10 bucks. And every time they send somebody out, I have to pay $100. So it would be beneficial if they actually did what they were supposed to do and said, "Okay. Well, there's a bigger issue here with the air conditioner 'cause the same part keeps breaking." And they did some research about whether the AC unit was bad. But they're not even doing that. And like I told the guys that AHS just goes with the lowest bidder.

American Home Shield's claim process is awesome. You call and pay your deductible. Today, I put in a claim for a pipe leak and they processed my payment. Five minutes after the call, I got a text saying my tech was gonna be out there on Wednesday. I had a claim prior for a non-functional water heater. A technician with Whitney Holdings came before his appointment time, which was awesome. He diagnosed the cause of the non-function and fixed it. The unit working just fine now.
R & M is another contractor that came out to diagnose our lack of central air conditioning. Both technicians explained to me step by step what they were doing. More importantly, they explained why they were doing what they were doing. I found that to be really helpful. It's a little branch of customer service that a lot of places overlook.
I'm glad that there is an entity such as American Home Shield. Unfortunately, having to deal with them means that something is not right with our home. But when there is something wrong with the house or the inter-coworking parts, it's nice to know that all I have to do is call the home warranty company, process my deductible, and they will have a technician certified in whatever problem we're having on the way within a couple of days.

I decided to get the warranty because I already had to replace all the plumbing and electrical in the house. I got tired of paying $10,000, and I said, "Well, let me get a Home Shield," my brother said it's good to have a good peace of mind. If you got a problem, they're really good. But some stuff they do great with, and other things like AC, it's pricier and it seems like they don't want to help me out and take care of me.
My garbage disposal quit working. I paid the $100, the contractor came out and looked at it. He said, "This is not a plumbing issue. There's nothing wrong with the garbage disposal. You need to send out an electrician." He said, "It's either your electrical that's plugged into it." It was connected to a light switch. "Or it's the light switch." He contacted American Home Shield and said, "This is not a plumber issue. You need to send out an electrician." And they sent out an electrician. Within the next day, the electrician came out, found out that the light switch was bad. The electrician was fantastic. He fixed it within five minutes. I had a nice conversation with him. He replaced the light switch and it works great now.
The air conditioner guys, on the other hand, I've been having a ton of problems with. My AC hasn't been working since May 24th and I also used my AHS and it has been an absolute nightmare. I'm still without air and it's the hottest two weeks of the year right now. I put the claim in on the 24th, the contractor came out on the 27th. The guy said that I had a small leak and put some Freon in it and he replaced a small, very cheap part. Within an hour, it still wasn't working. So, I called him back and said, "Hey, you need to send that guy back out. My air is still not working." They took another four days and didn't come out again until the 30th. They took another four days to come out to look at it and there was some sort of valve that was bad inside the air handlers. He came out on that Friday before Memorial Day, said, "I don't know how I missed it, but we'll get this part replaced. Let me get it ordered and I'll be back."
So, this last Tuesday came rolling around and I called him and I said, "Hey, when are you coming out?" I got little kids and it's 95 degrees in my house. I called them and I said, "Hey, what's going on here? I need to get this fixed. It's so hot. We had to send our kids to their dad's house for a whole weekend because it's so hot." My wife and I had to rent a hotel room because it's so hot for the day. So, I called them yesterday trying to get an idea. They said, "Well, American Home Shield approved the part, but we're waiting 7 to 10 days before we can get it." And I said, "Well, can I pay a shipping fee or something to get it faster? Because we're absolutely dying over here." I've got 10 fans going, we're all sleeping in one room in the basement because it's a bit cooler than upstairs. So, we got four or five fans blowing on everybody.
We buy ice and put it in buckets in the basement trying to keep the moisture a bit good. I don't know what else to do. When I called ahs the other day, they said, "Well, we're still waiting on the part. You're fourth in line to be taken care of." I said, "I've been waiting since the 24th for y'all to fix this." I'm frustrated because, even when I called AHS for help, they just called them and they said, "Well, we ordered the part. It's going to be 10 days," and that was all they told me.
There's a place called Corken Steel down here. I can drive across the Bay Bridge and buy the part I need. I just don't know how to put it on. And I can get the part today. That's what I don't understand. There's a store that you can drive down to and pick it up. And I'm going to take a picture of it and I'm gonna go buy the part today and try to find somebody else to fix it for me because they're not going to fix it. I don't know what else to do and I'm not gonna suffer anymore.
This is America. If I want to buy one-day shipping, I am willing to pay the one-day shipping to get here faster. But they don't even give me that option. They said, "We don't have a way of doing that." I said, "What do you mean?" We have Amazon Prime now practically. They guarantee it within 24 hours. There's no reason why we can't do this with this part. Today, I'm gonna get off work, I'm going to go home and take a picture of that part, I'm going to drive to Corken Steel and buy one of those parts. I'm gonna call this stupid AC company and say, "I have the part you need. You need to come out and fix my stuff." And if they don't come fix my stuff, I won't call AHS again.
When a customer called them back and said, "Hey, look, it's been a week and a half. I still don't know what's going on," but the actual AC company, the lady hung up on me. She said, "Do you have any comments?" And hung up on me. I even told AHS, "They hung up on me." Because I'm upset. I got little kids and it's hot as hell over here. And I said, "She got mad at me because whatever." I didn't cuss around, but I wasn't very nice because I pay a lot of money. I pay $56 a month to have this service and I pay 100 bucks every time somebody comes out and I have to pay my money upfront. But they would make me wait two weeks to get my part. They get paid upfront but don't do anything about it and just make me wait forever. It should be the other way around.
It's a 15-year unit. It probably needs to be replaced. But they don't want to replace it. They just want to do little tiny fixes on it. And I'm a little disappointed because I make my payments on time. The lady called me the other day to tell me that I made my payment on time and I said, "I make my payment every month." But some stuff, AHS has done good on.

The air conditioning wasn't cooling correctly. The contractor called me within 24 hours of me placing the online notification for service. They're friendly in the office. The tech that showed up lives in my community and was pleasant too. I gave him two landmarks and he knew exactly where the house was. He was hands down wonderful.
We had to reschedule a few times because weather was too cold to run air conditioning. It finally worked out to where he came out on an afternoon and the temperature was 75 degrees, which was perfect for him to run a test. His test revealed that it was low one pound on refrigerant. So, he added refrigerant, a stop leak, a substance. And so far, so good. We just had a thunderstorm come through and the house is holding 75 degrees.
When I went to renew my contract, I was concerned about the price and in light of the current state of our nation and the fact that I just spent 4.75 a gallon for gasoline, where a year ago it was 3.15, I'm getting a decent value for what I pay. I would recommend checking into American Home Shield because sometimes we don't have an emergency fund like we should to cover things that happen on a house that we may own. When you rent, you can typically say, "Hey, landlord or maintenance people, my air conditioning is out." And usually, they're obligated to get it working. But it's different when it's your own home and you're trying to rationalize putting money in certain areas of the house because of finances.

AHS's website is good but there are a couple of things that have not worked out very well. I submitted a few tickets recently for my washer and dryer. The first time, I selected both the washer and dryer for the ticket. The tech came out and he fixed the leak on the bottom of the washer but that was it. The water leaked down to the basement and destroyed my ceiling tiles and everything else. I repeated that ticket but I haven't heard anything about somebody coming back out for a follow-up on that.
The second time I submitted a ticket for both, I checked them both off again and the guy came out and said he was only here to do the dryer. He didn't get anything that said the washer was approved or whatever. He got the dryer set up. If it has to be where each appliance has its own ticket, I understand that but it wasn't stated upfront.
The only other issue I've had was when I had an air conditioning issue. I submitted a ticket earlier in the year and the tech came out and fixed it. It worked for a day or so and it didn't work after that. When I went back in to try to submit another ticket that this issue still wasn't fixed, it looked like AC had been taken off as one of the things that were covered. I resubmitted a ticket but I never heard back from AHS. But I still have the guy’s number from the HVAC company to service it. I called him directly and he came out the next day. He realized he did something wrong, so he came back out and fixed it.
It hasn't been perfect with AHS but I've been satisfied with it, especially for as many appliance issues as I've had recently. State Electric Company came out and checked out the fan. The tech told me what was wrong, tried to rewire it, and then gave me a quote for what it would take to fix the fan. He said we'd have to wire it up to a new switch box and put a new fan in. He clarified that he wasn't sure whether it'd be covered by American Home Shield. He said that if they wouldn't cover it, I could give him a call and I can still request them to do the services if I wanted them to. I was satisfied with what he gave me as far as the diagnosis of what the problem was. It seemed like he knew what he was talking about and walked me through to show me what the problem was instead of just going by or not giving any kind of detail.

American Home Shield sent out somebody when I wasn't able to be home. So, he was dealing with my wife. I came home and the guy was charging us for more than the work that needed to be done. I called American Home Shield and told them about it and I asked for another gentleman, but they said that's not how they do things and said he's written me off with stuff to either call the manufacturer of the water heater to see if that was per spec of what he said, and it wasn't. American Home Shield said, "Well, you go by the contractor. You would have to talk to him." I said, "I already talked to him. He charged me for things that I don't need to have." So, that was kind of the problem. I wound up taking the money that AHS offers, instead of getting that gentleman to do it. Most recently, Union Express came out and fixed the AC within 10 minutes. It was the starting capacitor that was bad.

The technician was very friendly and polite. He was also very quick and efficient. He worked clean and was out of here. The best part about American Home Shield is that I don't have to research and find somebody to do repairs. They take care of that part for me and it's reasonably priced. I've been pretty satisfied with everything that has happened so far.

I didn't have a good experience with AHS the first time. There's a company here in Phoenix that's on their website so I thought this was the company that AHS uses to fix the AC unit. The guy came out from this company, he went upstairs to my attic, and he told me that my compressor was bad. But I bought this house in 2011 and the unit was brand new. He proceeded to say it's gonna cost 1,400 to fix everything. I called AHS when the guy was here and they said they don't use this company anymore and to not let him do anything to my house. But I had paid the company $79 and I was kind of angry that I had to fork out that amount for somebody that didn't even do any service to my house. Then come to find out somebody disconnected all the wiring upstairs in the attic to the unit and put a big hole where those wires were supposed to go. I had another company come out and their guy fixed everything for me for $190.

But they took it upon themselves for me to go get a battery and then they left. So, when I got the battery, the fan is still not working. The electric company should have batteries in their truck and test the fan to see what's wrong with it and they didn't do that. So, I'm gonna call them back today.

In the beginning, when the tech came here, he was in a rush. I told him I'm in the refrigeration business, but I don't do homes. I do grocery stores. So, I already knew exactly what was wrong with it. It was the air handler motor up in the attic. He went up there. I don't know what he did. He came back down and grabbed a motor. He was like 100 miles an hour and then everything was hooked up and he told me to turn on the thermostat. I heard it kick in. Then I went outside and plugged in the disconnect from my condenser. The condenser didn't come on. I told him. He came out and said, “All your fasteners’ good. Everything's good.” I said, “Yeah, but the day before yesterday, I checked it to make sure.” He said, “I can tell you it’s the control board.” I said, "A control board? How is that possible?" He said, “I don't know. It could have shorted out or something like that”
I was already out of air since Saturday. It was Tuesday when they came and did that. He told me it was the board and I thought he was gonna come back and give me some paperwork. He was gone. So, I called them and I said, “Listen. He was just here." Now I'm going to be without an AC till the following Saturday. The person said, "Well, that’s all we can do.” So then I called a couple of times to talk to American Home Shield. The reps told me, “Oh, we're gonna get somebody there. We'll get a senior tech to get there.” That was on Wednesday. It was 104 degrees and the house is up to 87 degrees. I said, “I can't handle being in here.” I called and asked, “Did you guys get the message from American Home Shield to send one of your senior techs?” The rep said, “No.” We managed to have all the fans running and kept it at 87 inside the house so I tolerated it.
When a different tech came back to install the new control board, everything worked fine. Brandon was very pleasant. He took his time and walked me through it. He said, “It's in a relay. What I understand, is it's in a relay. So take a little bit of time, and your condenser will come on.” It did. Everything worked out well after that. Overall, American Home Shield is awesome. It's just sometimes, the people they get depends on what they're doing.

I'm enjoying American Home Shield’s services because things just started falling apart one after another. I had the plumber issue and the air conditioning issue all back-to-back within three weeks. So, it saved me money. I know most people, they've had this type of insurance before, and they would say it wasn't worth it because nothing ever happened. But things happen and things did happen. And I really needed it, and I got service within two days latest. Things happened over the weekend and by Monday or Tuesday, I had someone out here fixing it and it's fixed.
There was a clog. The tech cleared it. It came back again. It was three times it clogged up but it was within a week span. But AHS didn’t charge me for that. They had the contractor keep coming out to fix the issue that was already there. And that was great, so it was helpful. Because I know if I didn't have that, I would have had to keep paying them to come back. And they did a great job. They said, “Yeah. Sometimes, we have to come back out two three times because the clog moves or it precedes another problem." But they came back out almost immediately. Fixed it. They were fast and very informative. I've been very pleased with my service. AHS covers everything I need. I don't have anything crazy expensive. And most expensive things that may break, they cover. So, I've been happy with AHS. In the first couple of months after we bought the house, we had a problem with the air blowing when it was already cool in the house. We wanted to shut it off but it kept blowing. We had to call a technician out. He came by and corrected the issue. Just a month ago, our air conditioning unit upstairs went out. A gentleman came out, went outside, and messed with the air conditioning unit. He said he had to order a part. A couple hours after he left, the air conditioning unit downstairs wasn’t working. I called the gentleman and said he didn't touch the downstairs unit. I called American Home Shield and they charged me another $75 to have a guy come out here. When he came out, he fixed both of them. But that was not right. We paid for a service and something the first guy did caused us to lose our downstairs air.
A couple weeks later, the air went out again. A lot of times, the people I speak to on the phone don’t speak good English. I can’t understand them and they have a problem understanding me. We go back and forth. My wife was telling the rep that we didn’t have air conditioner. The rep said they'd send a technician out. We asked who and she said Kool Guys would be back out and that there wouldn’t be any charge. We told her we didn’t want Kool Guys. She said, “If we send another person out, we got to charge you $75.”
That was Saturday and there was nothing on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and today. None of them ever called me back and no one followed up. We asked what was going on and the rep said they only got one technician in our area, Kool Guys. If we didn't hear from them in two hours, to call them back. We called them back and the rep said they just assigned Kool Guys to come out to our house for Thursday. We asked, “You sent us Kool Guys. So, you’re going to send us our $75 back?” They said, “No, we’re sending you a technician.” They’re not even aware on what’s going on because they’re not leaving notes. It’s chaos. They lied to us. When you lie, your credibility is bad.
For the other times, the company that came out here was very good. But I’m very dissatisfied this time. I always thought American Home Shield was good but we ran into some bad problems. I can understand if I was getting it for free, but we’re paying. We should get what we’re paying for. Our contract expires in September and we might have to look around and call Select.

I am very disappointed in the service of American Home Shield. The dishwasher was replaced, but In the many appointments (approximately 5xs) they made only to be told that this company they assigned does not do the installation. After speaking with a Supervisor, I was told l could find my own installer and would be reimbursed first with the $125, and once my installation is complete to send in the itemized installation bill. Now l American Home Shield says they only give $125. I was lied to by the company and also by the company who delivered the dishwasher because they never came back to install they said they didn't have a long enough hose on the truck. This sounds suspicious and should have been a red flag. l paid out of pocket $350 plus a $100 deductible. I will not recommend this company and let others know of AHS's bad practice.
Hi Amanda,
We are American Home Protect, not American Home Shield. Although we both provide home warranty protection services, we are a very different company. We provide a 3-year warranty as opposed to American Home Shield’s 1-year warranty. And more importantly, if you had our warranty, you would have certainly been satisfied with our service because our service providers will install new appliances as part of their included service. We did a search for you in our customer database just to be sure that you were not our customer, and there was no sign of your information. So, you are definitely not one of our customers. It is terrible that American Home Shield had service that left you dissatisfied, and we would like to invite you to take a look at the services we offer which includes handyman services as part of your home warranty contract for the same low deductible which will save quite a bit of money on any need for handyman services. You can visit stophomerepairs.com for more information about the ways in which we can help you. You will see our A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau to give you confidence that we take care of our customers! I hope that we can serve you and remember we are American Home Protect, and happy to help protect your home for you!

The communication between customer service reps is one of the worst I've ever seen! Along with them taking forever to respond to requests or claims. After we submitted our claim for our refrigerator, not only did it take 2 weeks, but they then ordered the wrong part because they were trying to get the cheapest deal. So then we are still waiting a month later to get our fridge fixed. And they would always return calls after 7 pm, which just happens to be closing time for the replacement department and others that you need to talk to. So they basically just keep kicking the can down the road.
So here we are a month later and my wife and stepdaughter still don't have a fridge that works. We get a call today (After 7 pm of course) and we are told that our status hasn't changed. But wait, there's more.... We had just spoken to another rep that FINALLY pushed through the replacement process. SO the rep that was supposed to call that morning had no idea that it had been handled. Good thing we did get Melanie on the other call. Plus, we are still fighting with them about a hot water heater issue from about 6 months ago. They still owe us money for that one as well. Along with the septic issue that we had, I paid the 100.00 deductible for them to tell me that it wasn't covered. I still haven't got that money back either. Because they said his notes said that he fixed my dryer, they wouldn't send him out again. So I had to pay another fee to have a different person come. That person had my dryer fixed within a week.
With my washing machine, the guy came to my house twice. Both times, he claimed he fixed it. So I had to argue with AHS. Finally, they sent me the payment for the amount of my washer, so I can go purchase a new one. I like the fact that AHS is there but it takes so long to get anything done.

I've had a lot of trouble with American Home Shield in ways because I've had trouble with air conditioning. The contractor came out, they worked on it, and it worked for a day and it went out again. The new ac was put in December of 2020. I used the heat in '21 and '20. We didn't use the air. So, we turned the air on this year and it worked for 10 minutes and quit. So, the new air condition has never been rolling for three hours at most since they fixed it and it was on because that cooled the house down but it went back out again. So, the air has been no benefit. The heat worked since we had it put in. When the tech came out to check it the other day, he said that something wasn't wired right. The Arrow man told me, "The minute you turn the air on, the heat would come on." The heat element is coming on every time you turn the air on.
He checked the wiring on it and got it to working. When he left, it was cooling and it cooled the house down that evening and that night, and it quit and it never came back on again. He showed me a picture of it where you could see the things in the control board, but some of them were burned. You could tell they were burned just by discoloration. He also had to replace the transformer. This is all-new stuff and put in the 9th of December of 2020 and a five-ton unit and it has never been a workable air condition since the day it was put in. They came back out and looked at it, and said the computer board that's in it was burnt up. So, they had to order one. They will be back Tuesday. But the heat did work. I finally got a new air conditioner put in in there and the new one's already going.

They sent everything over to the service people and they contacted us.
Their service people came out and they were really nice. They fixed a couple of things the first time they come out. However, it didn't fix the problem. The guy told us that it may not. He thought that the unit is just too small for the house or too old for the house. It was gonna need a different unit. But he said to give it a couple of days and then see. The only frustrating part was we gave it a couple of days and it still wasn't working. When I called back to have them come back out and replace the unit, we got booked far out because they didn't have anything available. Now, we're in this waiting period. The last couple of times that I've called, I've spoken to someone who resides in a different country. The issue that I'm still trying to get resolved is, in May, I requested my AC to be serviced. Then I started having problems with my AC so I canceled the tune-up and only wanted to take advantage of the free tune-up. When I communicated that to the representative, they canceled all of them. I was on the phone with them four or five phone calls later. When they read and stated the tune-up for one AC, they charged me $150 instead of it being my free tune-up. I have still been trying to get my $150 back.

I recently had an issue with my garbage disposal. The plumber said, “It'll take me a second to look at it. I'll go ahead and do that for you.” Now, it's in worse condition than it was in the first place. He said he would come back and fix it. But I haven't seen him nor would I now let him in my house. But he wasn't a horrible person. He seemed like he was trying to help but then didn't follow up.
It seemed like if there was an issue, the people that do this stuff used the cheapest quality things to fix what you have wrong at your house. I really don't think it's any savings. I'm waiting for my warranty with AHS to expire in a year and not renew it. I’d rather get things fixed myself and have better quality work and appliances or items. Although, I got my heater fixed and they did a good job.

I was having an issue with my microwave that would turn on but would make a funny noise. It wouldn't heat anything up. The tech did the test, ordered the part, and came back a week later. AHS's contractor was very professional and very communicative. I was very pleased that they contacted me within 24 hours to schedule the initial visit. The claim was put in on a Tuesday and they were out to assess the situation by Friday. They scheduled the appointment to install the ordered part and contacted me before that window to let me know that the timing had changed. I was really happy with the experience. But the last claim I had with AHS did not go nearly as smoothly. I hesitated to file the microwave claim because of how badly that last one went.

AHS has done a good job. I've been with them for 10 years. I've always had a really good experience with them. Every time I've called them, they've done their service. My air conditioner is not cooling. American Home Shield sent somebody out to try, but the issue that I have is not covered under the warranty. I've had AHS for a while and I've had a lot of claims. Most of them are always fixed. With this recent one, because the air conditioner drip is not put in correctly, they're not covering it. The contract says that if something's installed improperly, they don't cover that. So, I can't say that I'm upset with them over that.

Over a year now, being a single mom, and every time something breaks, I was having a hard time trying to get somebody to come in. So with American Home Shield, I have more peace of mind knowing that when something breaks, I can just pick up the phone and call and get somebody out here, and all it's gonna cost me is $100. Even though I'm paying every month, the cost of that versus having something repaired, it's still a win-win for me. The contractors were very professional. When my air conditioning unit was out, something was going on and the contractor fixed it.

It's been efficient that I paid $75 to American Home Shield and then they come and repair the issue. If they can't repair it, then they replace it instead of me paying the money for it. Submitting a claim is easy to do. You can either call them or you can do it over the computer. I sent in a claim when the water in my toilet kept running. The contractor came out and took out the whole system and put a new system in. They were great. They were on time and very professional. They did what they had to do and left. Everything is great.
Last year, I was having problems with my refrigerator and the process could have been better. I always had to call American Home Shield and every time I called, I got somebody who was rude. I was asking questions and she acted like she didn't want to answer them. But then, the supervisor contacted me and everything was fine. She assigned a company to come out. The contractor looked at it and said, “You know what? We're going to order the part. And we'll see how much it’s going to cost? We might have to just replace it.” The process after was fine.

Get a service that you can afford. AHS has comprehensive service. But their service call fee is a little high. It wasn't as expensive when we started. And probably like any warranty company, they would be at their jobs out and they probably go with the most economical person for them. So, sometimes, we get technicians that are not very experienced and take a little longer to do the repairs. The first 10 years, we had better quality technicians that came in.

We've had American Home Shield for several years now and they've been really quick to respond to us. They've done so much work for us. We weren't expecting as much as they covered. We had an issue with the air conditioner and they came out and had a technician look at it. They said, "Your air conditioner is not good anymore." So, they replaced it. It was awesome. They went above and beyond. I've had experiences where the technicians either don't respond in a timely manner or just don't respond in general. I just call and usually, they're quick about helping me get another technician assigned to the job. And usually, that next person is really good.
My recent claims were a dishwasher that was leaking and a refrigerator ice machine. When you push a button on the ice machine or water, it would just make this ungodly noise. No idea what it was doing there, but, the tech was able to diagnose both of them and we ended up getting a replacement dishwasher because that one was really old and there was no adequate replacement for that specific one or the parts. The tech was also able to fix our fridge, too. It took about a week to get parts and was good to go.

I have been an American Home Shield customer for a number of years across a number of homes, and never have I experienced a more unprofessional experience than I have recently. AHS has outright refused to provide assistance in replacing my water heater. Despite multiple calls, over 10 agents, and hours of my time trying to simply have the contractor call me, AHS has refused to assist in any capacity. Each agent just re-reads the same information and script.
Unfortunately, it appears that most of the agents do not have proficiency in English enough to address issues that deviate from their script, which makes the conversations impossible to have with agents failing to actually respond to a question. AHS refused to follow-through with calls from supervisors, escalations, or to have their contractor actually complete their work. The agents continually lie or refuse to assist. Ultimately, American Home Shield takes hundreds of dollars from customers and refuses to follow-through with the work.

To make a long story short, American Home Shield refused to reimburse me for a service that is explicitly listed on the contract. They couldn't even get a plumber out for an emergency issue any sooner than a week out. They did give me permission to hire my own and be reimbursed but then denied to authorize the work. They then wasted hours and hours of my time with phone system mazes, long hold times, and a need to call back numerous times. None of that ever resulted in a straight answer on the issue. I finally got that straight answer several rounds into back-and-forth through the Better Business Bureau. That answer made up words that were not in the policy to 'justify' their decision. The air-conditioning stopped working and I contacted them. They sent out the contractor for repair, they looked at the problem and said it was the condensation pump. They left without fixing the bad pump. I tried to have them come back out for a week with no response. I fixed the pump myself. When I called to ask for my deductible to be refunded, they said they couldn't since they had already come out. Asked for a manager several times and they would not connect me with one, all they could do is repeat is that the repairman had already come out so they cannot give me a refund. Don’t take my word for it, read all the reviews except for the reviews on their site. Must have written or paid for those, I can’t find a place on their webpage that lets me leave a review. The customer service at AHS has usually been good. Sometimes there just seems to be some confusion over the request or understanding the issue. But I was pleased with the washer. Sears came out. They were prompt, professional, courteous, and explained everything. It wasn't that way with my experience with Thomas’ Appliance Repair. I had a bad experience with them previously, so I didn't want them to come back. That was canceled and refunded. But there was no follow-up. We were with a couple other companies prior to American Home Shield and we found them to be the best group that we’ve had. So, we continue to work with them. They've done what they said they were gonna do, which is the good part. They followed through and they've returned phone calls. In today's day and age, that's a rarity. This is the third year we will have a contract with them and we've gone a year without a claim, why you have a home warranty. But we’ve had three claims with AHS. Our washing machine broke and we got the parts in the mail the other day, and the guy is coming on Friday to install what he needed. We also had a claim because the wires weren't capped on the electrical panel. I won't fool with it because when you turn it back on, who knows what damage I've done. I don't even care if the electricity is off. So, we had a guy come out to do that.
We also had an inspection on some of the covering on the air condition that goes on top. Over the years, it degraded and that had to be replaced. Then, we had to do an air condition check to make sure all the units were fine and working. We’re getting ready to sell our home and when you sell a 20-year-old home, sometimes that's important to have that information so we did that. Everything's been done with the exception of the washing machine. It's all working out.
When I first started dealing with AHS, it was like the lottery. You'd say what's wrong and they would say who you would get. I said I was not a big fan of the company and I would rather have company Z that also does work for them. But AHS said they couldn’t do that. It was a random selection. Over the course of the three years we've been with them, we can now request. When we had the air condition repair, I said that two years ago, we replaced the air condition and they sent out XYZ company. And they said they would get the same company for me.

The claim submission process was pretty easy. The only thing I'm a little disappointed with Home Shield on is that depending on the problem that I have, I don't think 30 days is enough to make sure that the problem is really taken care of. I'm just calling to follow up, seeing when mine get scheduled." The person said, "You know what? We'll call you when we're ready to schedule." I said, "Will they call me today?" She was like, "Yes. They'll call you today." They finally did call me today at around 7:55 PM and they said, "Okay. Well, we can get you in on Friday." That was like five days later but it was okay.
When the guy did come on Friday, he was super efficient and great. He fixed the problem in like 5 minutes. It turned out to be like this battery part and he had it with him, which was great. It's working fine now. What I do like about American Home Shield is that I'm paying an annual amount and I know that if anything big goes, the cost of the part and the labor would be covered and I'll just pay this $100 service fee. But I don't like that we're kind of at the mercy of whatever providers they contract with and they'll get to us when they get to us.
I've had a few different claims that I processed. At this point, with what I've poured in thus far to American Home Shield in terms of premium, I don't know if I've recouped my money. They're in the business of making money, so I get that but at the same time, there should be something in the contracts that the service people will not just have to call you back at a certain timeframe, but they have to be on site in a certain timeframe.

I like that with AHS, you have a backup when things break down. I had a claim recently for my refrigerator. The gasket around the doors needed repair. The water was settling on my shelves in the refrigerator. The tech cleaned some parts in there and then ordered gaskets to go around the door. When they came in, he did the rest of the repairs. It's working fine now.
One time, my air conditioner was messing up. They had to order a motor forward. It was really hot. It took about three weeks for that to get straightened out. They had to wait for the part to come in. But when the part came in, it was the wrong part. So, I still had to wait. I ended up buying the air conditioning units. But when my water heater went out right after I first got American Home Shield, the techs came out and changed the hot water heater out. Later on, my washing machine also went out. I did a claim for the dishwasher and the AC but they only put one in for the dishwasher. I called to see why the AC guy was taking so long and they told me, “Oh, you only put one in for the dishwasher.” I'm like, “No, it was for both.” There needs to be more active listening though. The rep quoted me a price for both but it was apparently only for one. Each service call is $100 and she told me it was for two. I was requesting for them to pull the call but no one ever did. But, they eventually took care of everything.
The guy for the AC came out in less than 24 hours. I loved that. He said I needed Freon. He took care of it. He was quick and he explained everything to me. I want that specific guy to come should I have a problem again because he was awesome. I'm very pleased because they finally took care of me. At this point, I would definitely recommend AHS because I like the speed of how the claims are taken.

The air conditioner wasn’t cooling. It was super low on freon. The first people AHS tried to send out didn’t even come to this area. I reached out to American Home Shield and they found someone to come out. The technician filled the freon because we have the policy where it covers this freon percent through AHS. He said that since it's an older unit, there might be a leak. He didn't know and we would have to monitor it. With American Home Shield, you have 30 days from when the contractor comes out to let them know that you still have an issue. They come back out and you won't be charged the $100 service fee again.

One of American Home Shield's reps called me and explained to me the coverage that I was getting. I was complaining about the prices but that was when they told me about the quality. Even though they were more expensive, they got a good A record and that was what I was looking for. I would recommend them.

It's been a really good relationship with AHS. They did a great job for me in my first year and I'm going to keep using them. It's worth paying the fee just so that I don't have to worry. Recently I had a claim for my AC and it was an exercise in the hilarities. I have a heat pump system which means it's both the heating and air conditioning. It's the same system that went out the first winter that I was here and froze my pipes. The pipes burst and water went everywhere and destroyed the floor. The techs said, “Oh, you just don't have any Freon. We'll put some more Freon in."
Two weeks later, I'm not getting anything and they go, “Uh-oh. We found that you have a leak. So we think we found the leak. We fixed the leak. Here's some more Freon.” Two weeks later, it wasn't working again. They're like, “Oh, my God. What the hell is happening?” This has happened every single year since I moved in. Last year, they said, “We looked through everything. We could not find the leak. The only thing we can think of is that you did some construction here. The pipe in the wall here probably has a hole in it.” So they built an extra pipe outside the house and then put a cover on it. The total bill was $1000 and they were like, “Okay, it's working now. We think that fixed it.”
A few weeks ago, I called the air conditioning people again and I have no Freon again. This is the fifth time that it's all disappeared. They found another leak and said, “Dear God, I seriously hope that this fixes it.” Freon is very expensive and AHS has only charged me for the first Freon. If that has anything to do with AHS, that was totally worth it. I love the feeling that I'm somehow protected if something goes wrong.
But I'm not thrilled that I mostly deal with a computerized system and a phone tree. When I call, it's just, “Would you like to start a new service call? Would you like to continue an old service call?” The few times I talked to somebody, it was somebody with a very thick accent and I could barely understand them. It was a bit confrontational. I left that, feeling pretty pissed off. Other than that, when I'm dealing with the service people who have come out, they've all been really good.

I'm very appreciative of American Home Shield’s service. I can get all of my different services and utilities addressed through this one service. It's easy. I put in the service order and it gets handled. In fact, I have two services that are coming in this afternoon. I have two different refrigerators that need some attention. We're able to get both of them looked at at the same time. That's gonna be lovely. I had JBC Plumbing out and the first two times, they were not quick. It was like a week and a half before they could even make the appointment. So, I didn't like that. But they have been very fine ever since. They've been here several times.

When I need a service person to come out, they come out and do what they need to do. So everything's going well. The AC went out again. So the contractor is gonna come today and look at it again. The first time they came, it was blowing hot air and then, I turned it off for three days. When they came and turned it on, it started blowing cold air. So they didn’t do anything. But now, it went back to blowing hot air. But the contractor was professional. They were good people and on time. Everything went well.
I’ve used American Home Shield a few times and so far, everything’s okay. They always handle and take care of my needs. But sometimes, they want you to wait a whole week. For my AC claim, the contractor said they couldn’t come out. But I have my mom and dad who are in their 80s, and they need this for medical reasons. So American Home Shield decided to do something to get something out here that day, instead of next Monday.

We had an issue with a garage door opener and there was an emergency, so we called to have it repaired without calling for somebody to check it out first. I got an email into the claims department to see if they can help us with the bill for that replacement of a garage door opener motor. It's been a few days and I have not received a call, but because of the holiday, I didn't expect to hear from anybody from American Home Shield. They were going to email me.
Also, I tried to do the claim online, but I had a real difficult time finding the spot on the website to do that. I ended up calling and the girl helped me through it. She said, “Would it be okay if I can post a letter for you?” I gave her the information. She read me back what she could post, and I agreed that sounded like what the scenario was.

AHS was a benefit to me 'cause two days after I moved in, my air conditioning went out. The techs responded quickly and efficiently. They had to order a part, which took about five days. But other than that, that wasn't their fault. In today's world I got it fixed that quickly. I'm thankful it was repaired because it is up to 90 degrees.

We had a water leak with water bubbling the drywall coming from the attic and pouring into an electrical outlet. They were going to send a plumber. I called in them in the middle of the night. They said they would expedite this. No one came. We could not reach the person assigned. Then they decided to sent HVAC people. Expedited which meant they had to be here within 4 hours. No one came. Couldn't get an answer from the assigned HVAC. They reassigned us, again no one came. They charged us, but no one came. I had to hire another company and it cost me $580. I was short one pound of freon and they cleaned out the pan up in the attic.
I have had American Home Shield service my heat pump every spring and fall since I have been here. Can't speak to a supervisor. Everyone we spoke to came from out of the US and they are all scripted to say the same thing. I have had American Home Shield for more than 10 years and I have never experienced such incompetence and disregard me, a client. 2 years ago when I moved and put American Home Shield on this townhouse I spoke to someone in the States who was very caring. Outsourcing is a real issue with people who can barely speak English and have no one to supervise them.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Robert and I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

I like American Home Shield's flat fee of $75 each time I need something taken care of, particularly if it happens to be a high dollar amount repair. The only thing I don't like about American Home Shield is that I don't have the same company coming out each time I need something. When I need my condensation lines on my air conditioning unclogged, I'm always getting somebody different. That's the only thing that I don't personally care for. I'd rather be able to develop a rapport with the company rather than have somebody different each time. As far as the AC is concerned, the last two that I had, Crispy Air and Consolidated hadn’t addressed the issue more thoroughly.
I went to schedule my service online the last two times, and I was not able to do so because they changed my account number. They changed my telephone number and did not update my dashboard. So, I had to call to reschedule. I prefer to do my claims online, but with the service call prior to this one for the plumbing issue, the representative I spoke with said that she would update the system to reflect my new policy member, and it was never changed so that I could do my service call online the next time. The person that I spoke to for my last service walked me through how to do that on my own, and she gave me my new policy number over the phone. Now, I have the correct policy number. So, I should be able to log in and schedule service online if I need to.

The heating unit upstairs was not heating. When I called American Home Shield, the technician came out and it was very nice. He fixed the problem. After that, it was fine. Then two weeks ago, the unit for downstairs was not cooling down the house. It was the first hot weekend that we had in a long time. So the contractor came out and fixed it. I was very happy with both contractors that came out and American Home Shield.

We signed because of limitations. American Home Shield didn't set a limit. For the AC, it was whatever it cost. AHS would cover it if it was not due to me messing it up or my error. I got the most expensive coverage, but it was good. It was explained to me where I could understand and got me to sign up. I would recommend AHS.

Having American Home Shield, you don't have to pay that much to have something fixed if it breaks. We have used it. The only complaint I had, and I don't know whether that was their fault or not, is that we had a hot water heater out and it took us over a month to get a new one. It was aggravating not being able to have hot water. Overall, my experience with AHS, so far, has been good.

The service with American Home Shield is a little hit or miss. The agents on the phone that we deal with don't necessarily seem to be very capable of accommodating things when we're asking for it. On most of our most recent calls, we asked for particular things. Our air conditioner needed repair recently and they were very difficult in trying to accommodate getting someone out in a timely fashion. We were told three times that someone would be out that evening. They've provided some inaccurate information, which caused us to have to endure things a little longer than we would want it to have. Their customer service seemed very confused and they tell you one thing but it has never actually what has happened. They need to improve on it. Their ability to understand us seems a bit difficult.

Last year, it was difficult to submit a claim, but with the two claims that I filed this year, it's been really easy. Our circuit breaker continued to trip, and I called American Home Shield. The repair people came out and could not find anything wrong, but when the last guy came, he said he knew exactly what the problem was. My husband said that he was thorough, neat, knowledgeable, and professional, and he replaced the circuit breaker. It was something that should have been done all the times that I called.
