I had a plumber that was going to replace a hot water heater. After my warranty, he was gonna charge me $850, which I can buy at Lowe's for $500. I also had a refrigerator repairman come out and fix my refrigerator but I had to call in a different person to come actually fix it. He didn't know how to do it. But AHS is worth it. You just got to make sure that they get good contractors sent to you.

I like Home Shield so far because I chose my own agents or companies. I told them whether this person was good or not. So far, my plumbing and other issue was good. But I do have my issues with my air conditioning. When my jet tub had something clogged, the contractor fixed it. Then there was leakage and two other things but they were not able to do that because they said it was a maintenance problem. So most of my things were not covered. But they were great. I am happy with my Home Shield. They have great customer service and the technicians were good.

I heard a noise and saw my aircon stop. First, AHS said they will give me a company and that I would wait for one week. So, I called back and they gave me the guy within 48 hours. He checked my aircon and said it doesn't have any problems. He said if something happens, he'll come back to replace a new one.

The heating element on my appliance was not working. It's not an old appliance and that part went out. The tech that came out was wonderful and knew exactly what the issue was. A part was ordered and it got delivered in a timely fashion. When the tech came for his appointment, he was in and out of here in 20 minutes and had everything done. He didn't make a mess. I was very impressed.
American Home Shield has always done right. I've had their services for many years now and when something happens, they're on it. But there is one problematic air conditioning company and I don't allow them to come to my house anymore. They gouge people and cause a problem. Everybody that I have recommended American Home Shield to in my close family has had an issue with that company and cancelled the warranty service because of them.
I have an air conditioning job that needed to be done. The company that American Home Shield sent out told me what was going on then they gave me this really outrageous thing. I said no and that I wanted a second opinion. Other people came and they were very reasonable. I said to American Home Shield, “I just want you to make a note in my chart, never to send those people out here again.” They're gonna have to have some other people because that's costing them business.

The dishwasher messed up and American Home Shield wound up having to send three different companies to work out an intermittent problem. The first company couldn't get it to act up when they were there. It would run a whole cycle and at the end of the cycle, it wouldn't finish. After the last company came, we still couldn't run it on one cycle. But we could run on another cycle, and it would be fine. We also had a lady come out and replace the capacitor on our air conditioning unit last year. AHS gives us security. If something fails that's expensive, we've got something in place to help take care of it.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing weekend.

The dryer stopped heating so I called up AHS. Then, I got an email with the company's name and phone number. I had the option of either waiting for the company to call me to schedule the visit or calling them to set it up. The first company that came out, the technician came out twice. He replaced a part but it wasn't the issue. He came back out two weeks later and replaced another part but it wasn’t that. I had to wait for another week. The second technician showed up and I wasn't home at that time. He mumbled something over the phone and he left. then I didn't hear from them anymore.
I called the AHS and asked them what the status was and then they got some weird information from the company, so they closed the case. I begged them to open it again and I got a call from a second company. I was outside their working area so I got redirected to the third company. The technician showed up and with his demeanor, his appearance, and the way he’s carrying himself, you could tell he was, in a way, on another level than the first company that showed up.
The guy troubleshoot the issue and in 10 minutes, he was out the door. He said the heating element is bad and that he took picture of my model number. He said I should hear from my company within a week with the part to schedule the appointment. Sure enough, five days later, I got an email that the part showed up. The same dude showed up and he was in and out in less than 10 minutes. The issue was solved.
The only thing with AHS was I was unaware that I had to pay 100 bucks for every time I call service out here. Also, there was a miscommunication with the first company. I never got a call or an email to let me know what the contractor said. But other than that, once it went back on board with sending somebody out, I keep getting emails very promptly. Everything worked fine.

We had an unresolved issue with the freezer door not being fixed. It was repeated calls, nothing was done and it was not ever resolved. The next time we called with a claim, American Home Shield wanted to charge us $75. They eventually gave us the credit, but it still was frustrating with the service. We gave up on it too. But the recent company was incredible. Our air conditioner wasn't cooling. They came out and one of the pieces was out. A few days later, it was back not working. They came and said, "Okay, this other piece isn't working now." They were good about explaining and letting us know our cost of the Freon and everything was upfront. They were good communicators.
I just recently lost my mom and we were in the midst of that and had a house full of company coming in. When they said they couldn't get the part until the next week, I just said, "Okay. What can you do?" But they could tell how upset I was. Saturday morning, a technician called and said, "I'm at your house." I was so impressed with them, especially because it was under home warranty.

There wasn't any trying to upsell me into some gold parts. It’s been nice and cold in my home now. AHS is definitely worth the fees.

American Home Shield's service is good. Sometimes, with everything, I'll get a bad person that comes out to do work for me, but most of the time, I'm very satisfied. I recently had an issue with both air conditioners. The one upstairs was fixed fine, but I kept having problems for the one downstairs. On the third call, the young man that they sent out finally figured it out and got the situation resolved, so it’s working properly for its age now.
I had a problem with customer service as well. I had a toilet that had cracks in it that American Home Shield would not cover. I scheduled the plumber that they sent out to do it then I went to Lowe’s and discovered I could save 205 bucks by having Lowe’s come out and do it. When I called to speak to the person on the other end, they acted like I was obligated to this plumber. I’m nasty about speaking about lawyers, and I said, “Well, you do what you got to do, I got a good lawyer." The rep then backed down and made things right.
Most of the time, American Home Shield's folks are pretty good to understand, but they outsource to other countries and sometimes they are a bit hard to understand. When you're old and don't hear so well anymore, sometimes that can be a real problem. They are also having a price increase this year. They just sent me my new contract, and it was on the new contract, which takes effect in August. I don't like the price increase, but I understand it.
American Home Shield fixes several things around the house, and with the price of everything, if my unit goes, hopefully they will replace it for me. I'm 71 years old, so it would be a real hurt to my budget if I had to replace those appliances out of pocket. I have recommended them to other people, and other people have taken them through my recommendation. At another address, we had an air conditioning unit go out. It couldn't be fixed, and they replaced it. That was 12 years ago.

Nathan, the tech, was on time and he called before he came. He worked on the microwave and left a report 'cause I had to leave the house. Air Max came out after I had my pre-HVAC service with my policy. I had that the month before and my AC wasn't working. I had come home from work from a 12-hour shift, and it was cooler outside than it was in my house. So, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. They came out and said that the only thing that was wrong with it was that the coils needed to be cleaned and they should have done that when they did the HVAC service and they did not. The contractor was great, very polite, professional, and on time.
I called AHS in February and scheduled service for my dishwasher because it was throwing an error code and was shutting off. The guy came out and he was like, "It's your powerboard, your motherboard, but I can't do anything. I see that through the error code, but I need it to throw it again while I'm here or you can take a picture of it and send it to me." I said, "That's fine. I'm sure it'll do it within the next week when I run the dishwasher." So, I sent him, about a week later, the error code again. He then told me that it should be covered under my manufacturer's warranty and that American Home Shield was fighting him on replacing the motherboard because it should be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. I said, "Well, either way, it still needs to be fixed, right? Because you saw that it was throwing an error code and it's broken." He was like, "Yeah, well, I'm trying to get some clarification from American Home Shield."
Another month goes by and I messaged him again and said, "Hey, I sent you the picture. What's going on? I still haven't gotten any completion of this work order and you said you were going to keep it open." I never heard anything back from him. I called American Home Shield, and let them know that it wasn't completed and that it was the motherboard. I, in the meantime, had called LG and was told by them that it was not covered under the manufacturer's warranty because that expired at two years. So, when I called American Home Shield back, I said, "Hey, this is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty." They said they were going to escalate it, but they had been trying to get in touch with this contractor and they hadn't heard anything back from them. They said I would hear something within the next week because they were going to elevate it to their contractor issues department.
In the meantime, my warranty was getting ready to expire. So, I was getting phone calls after phone calls about re-upping my warranty. This was in May. So, when I finally called in to talk to somebody, I said, "Yeah, I'm not really pleased. I paid a $100 deductible for them to come out to fix my dishwasher, which is still broken." The guy that I talked to said, "Okay. Well, we can give you a $50 credit." I said, "No. What is that?" I paid $100 for a service that I didn't get anything out of. He was like, "Well, let me talk to my manager and I'll get back with you." He got back on the phone, 15 minutes later, and said, "We'll give you a $100 credit." "Fine. That's how much I paid for the service call. If you'll give me a $100 credit, I'll re-up my plan."
Fast forward, my dishwasher is still not fixed, and they're billing me $100 for the service call for Air Max when I have the $100 credit. So, I'm not really pleased. I called them when I received the email saying that I had the $100 bill for Air Max coming out. I said, "And secondarily, on top of you guys billing me the $100 for Air Max, which I should have already had the credit for because my dishwasher was never fixed, I did my yearly service, my HVAC service call, and the guy says everything was fine. And had he cleaned the coils like he was supposed to, then I wouldn't have had to call Air Max and schedule another service for them to come out." I'm immensely frustrated because my dishwasher is still broken and they're still trying to get this $100 from me.

American Home Shield increased my amount substantially. But it has been helpful. The only problem I’ve had is that when I have to call in, I get a person over in Asia or it’s not in the US. That’s generally fine, except the time zone is different. I tried to get ahold of somebody in Tennessee, which is the homebase here, but that does not always work out. The only thing that works out when I really have an urgent situation, I contact the social media group, and they tend to respond. But otherwise, they’re very nice, cordial, and polite representatives. But they don't have much authority to make decisions. I got a rep in South America, which was a little better, but still, they can’t help me anyway. So the problem is finding your way with a direct connection who can really help you in the United States.
Most companies that American Home Shield referred me to were okay. But they referred me to one company that was worst I've ever seen. They didn't diagnose properly, so therefore, American Home Shield wasn't going to pay for it. So it was incorrect. The rule is they send a second person out, and they say the same thing, then you have to pay for it. So, I said, “You know what, I'm not even gonna play this game. I'm just gonna get somebody.” I had to get a real plumber come out that I paid out of pocket, and they diagnosed it correctly. It worked out fine. I was tired of waiting so long for American Home Shield.
I had another situation during more of the waiting for supplies, where I waited four months and they still didn't have the part. So I did report it. Fortunately, it was only one burner on my stove, so I managed to cook with less. So I left them alone. Finally, I contacted them and said, “Look, it’s been a long time. Is there anything else we can do here to get this part for my stove? And my oven, too, my upper oven had quit as well.” American Home Shield said, “Well, yeah, we can get a different contractor." They did that and the contractor had the part right away. They fixed it the same day. So things are doing better.

We had a dripping hose bib and I filed a claim on the computer. Then, I received notification from American Home Shield that it had been assigned and a text from the company, Service Contractors Plumbers, saying that they would be contacting me and setting me up. They called to set up an appointment and the guy that this company sent out was very nice. I had to make a second call, though. He needed to tighten the hose bib just a tad bit more because it was leaking at the handle. They came out a second time and it works perfect now. The only thing with American Home Shield is they keep raising the price every year and I can't call in at all. I've got between 12 and 16 phone numbers downstairs in their file to try to call. I would call the sales center and they would give me a phone number for the service center and stuff like that. Don't ever try to call American Home Shield. If you don't file claims by computer, you don't do it.

I have some disappointments with American Home Shield. I have some good reviews. I have some bad ones. I called and I told them that my refrigerator needed fixing. Then the next day, I found out my stove also broke down. They said there has to be another claim, and that was $200. I was like, "Forget that." I just went ahead with the refrigerator. Now, I had to call back in with the stove. I thought that was crazy. It was within 24 hours that the stove started acting up and they told me I had to put in another claim. So, that was very disappointing. I also had another problem with my garage opener because it was misleading that it says, door open, and the garage door opens. So, my garage door opener was not broken. It was the bar that was on top of it, and they wouldn't fix that. They’re saying that will be on another claim.
Other than that, I haven't had any problems with some services, after the service or with the contractors. Sometimes, the contractors are slow to move, but I understand that because they have other things before mine and after they fix and repair, I have no problems afterwards. The first year I had them, they were impeccable. This year, I don't know if something's going on, but it really hasn't been doing well. I can't understand a lot of their foreign customer service reps. They can't understand me and they kind of make me frustrated. I was trying to explain to them the situation, and they said, "Oh, I understand." They don't understand. I just say, "Just give me your supervisor. Give me your supervisor." They'll say, "It takes 48 hours for our supervisor to call you back." That really throws me off. They did that one time, and I just hit the roof.

We used AHS back when we were living in Maryland, and we were very happy. We moved here and we got a new house but the first year, there was another company that came with the house. So, we had to stop AHS for a year and that was when we really realized how convenient the service was from AHS. We got back with AHS this year and so far, we're very pleased. AHS-wise, we are always pleased. I would recommend AHS definitely. So far, the staff has been very helpful. They will try their best to resolve the problem. I never feel any disappointment with anybody.
The only thing sometimes is the vendor is the headache. We had an issue with our AC. We have three units of AC in our house, the top, the first floor and the second floor. We let the staff know that and asked if we could have those checked. At the time, it wasn't that clear. The staff didn't let us know that it was supposed to be like two orders instead of one. So, the technician came but only checked one unit because according to vendors, it's only one order. Other than that, AHS has been great.

We had a microwave that went out in May. It took almost a year to get it repaired. American Home Shield kept sending parts but they didn't work. They would send that same part again but it still didn't work. It needed to be replaced. And they kept dragging their feet to replace it. We ended up buying another microwave because we had no use of our microwave. So, I was very discouraged about that. Generally, the service with American Home Shield is good. It's just a little pricey. If you do have a huge problem, they could get it fixed at a cheap price but If your problem isn't real big, then you're kind of paying a lot. When the garage door wasn't working, I did a claim and a tech came out fairly quickly. I had two different policies and I called to get my garage door fixed at my policy here at home, and somehow, the garage door people were sent to the place in Florida where there is no garage. We didn't realize it until after the fact, so we had to pay the 100 bucks. They had said it was because the technician went out there already and was incurred to them.

My most recent claim was for an AC issue. It was a motor from the interior unit and I'm sure it would have cost me over $200 to fix it, but I only paid the 75 deposit that I needed to pay. The tech was awesome too. I submitted my claim online at 7:00 in the morning, and before 8 o'clock, he responded and said he had some stuff lined up for the morning and he would be at the location around noon. He texted me when he was on his way. I met him there, and everything took three hours, at the most, for him to repair. It was really fast, and my AC is perfect. I love American Home Shield. Shortly after my AC went out though, my fridge went out as well and that's not included on my plan. So, I had to buy a new fridge. It would be nice to have had that part of my plan.

A contractor came out and assessed the situation. They took apart the AC unit and immediately could tell that the motor was shot. They needed to get a part. They took something with them then came back. It was outside our house, so they were able to do it without us being present. We’ve had three incidents now—one plumbing, one AC. And all of them have been great. I like that AHS covers big incidents like an AC unit that goes out. They’ve got the connections to people in town that they're able to send out. However, from a consumer’s standpoint, the communication is always difficult. It always seems it takes a lot longer from the consumer’s side to get to the desired outcome, whether that’s getting somebody out to the house or figuring out next steps. At the end of the day, we end up getting the desired service. It just ends up being a more roundabout process than we are hopping.

The most important thing that I like about AHS is the professionalism and that when you either call in or go online to make an appointment, to put in what type of services that you're needing, it doesn't take them long in order to find someone in your area to get them sent out to you. When the guy came out here for the AC, he said that it needed to be replaced 'cause it is an older unit and the coils had gone bad. But they had just put some Freon in there. He said it will last me the whole summer, give me a little time to work on getting the money together to replace the inside and outside unit. Everything has been so far, so good.

I had an issue with my gas furnace and submitted a claim through the website. It was smooth. I received the name of the company from American Home Shield. I received a phone call from them to schedule the technician arriving, and then another call about 30 minutes before the technician arrived at my house. The furnace wasn't igniting and the same technician came out three times. The first time that he came, he opened the furnace and it ticked on doing what it wasn't doing before. The second time he came out, he was able to figure out what the issue was. He ended up replacing a relay board inside the furnace. But he didn't have one on hand. So he came out again later to replace it once he got the part in. The board replacement was quick and easy.
My second claim was for my AC and we had a technician come out and fix that issue as well. He was here for about 15 minutes and was able to resolve the actual problem with the unit. The difference between the first and second claims was that with the first claim, the contracting company got in contact with me. I expected it to be the same with the second claim, but then when I went and looked, I was supposed to contact them. There wasn't a large difference in how those notifications were provided to me. It was two weeks before I realized that I was supposed to contact them and that they weren't going to contact me. But in the times that I've used American Home Shield, the companies that they recommended were able to solve my problems.

I wish American Home Shield could have told me a little sooner what was going on. They paid for the condenser, but I paid almost $6,000 to get the air conditioner installed and I still had to turn around the next year and get the problem fixed on the inside. They could have looked at my air conditioner thoroughly the first time, but it happens and I get it. The repair people only checked one part of it, but then they didn't check the whole system. They saw the first problem and rectified it. Now, I've got to get an evaporator coil that has to be installed. It's a big job, and I can't afford it right now, but I'm gonna get it done soon.
I had to go back and forth with a lot of stuff that’s going on with my air conditioner, and a lot of the work that needs to be done has to come out of my pocket. It will cost more, but I wish American Home Shield has a plan that covers the cost of whatever it is they're doing. Plus, some modifications had to be done. I just spent $1,000 last year, and I wasn't expecting to come out of pocket $1,600 on the items related to the first item. Other than that, it's okay. I'm not cancelling.

For some claims, the process has been really easy. For others, like my refrigerator, it’s been three years, and it still hasn't been fixed. We’ve had a couple of recent claims as well. The tech for the dryer came out immediately and fixed it. Meanwhile, I still have a claim for the air conditioner. I had it serviced and the AC guys said, "It's not the air conditioner, it’s the breaker." So, I had an electrician come out and change out the breaker. He said, "If it keeps tripping, it’s the unit." So, I called the people who worked on the air conditioner before and told them the breaker kept tripping. They came out and said, “Oh yeah, your compressor is bad, but it’s obsolete. So, we have to get a new heat pump.” They keep saying they’re waiting on Home Shield to send the parts, and it's been over a month.

I'm still out of my house while it's still hot. It's brutal. I went in there last night to get clothes to go to work, and it was 96 degrees. The techs have come and they told me what the issue was. They said they were gonna recommend to AHS to replace the system because mine is 18 years old and the compatibility of parts would be a problem. I got an email from American Home Shield a week ago telling me that they had approved it. And they went on to talk about the non-covered expenses, which the tech had told me about as well. The tech estimated it at 2,000 and AHS came in at 2,200 worth of non-covered expenses. I accepted that and they moved forward.
I called over the weekend and ended up talking to somebody in some other part of the world who was reading a script. I was gonna call AHS today because in the midst of what she was reading, she said that they were anticipating delivery of parts on the 25th. So, I'm gonna be out two whole weeks. The HVAC folks were gonna see if they could get that expedited. But I understand they have to wait on American Home Shield.
People will complain about American Home Shield all the time. But in the years that I've had them, I have had no complaints. They’ve been responsive and they have replaced whatever it is that needs to be done. We've been fine.

It would hold a charge for a while but he said it was against the EPA rules to load it up knowing that there is a hole in it, so he did not do that. American Home Shield is doing their job. I've had one repair. My washer went out. I called the service department. They didn't hesitate when I called. I told them the problem. And they said, "Okay. No problem." I was a little hesitant at first when I bought AHS because it's a warranty. I have to list my appliances, but I don't have to tell AHS when it was bought, where I got it from, and prove it by a receipt. I just told them, "My washer has gone out. I need help." And they were on it.
AHS sent someone out the next day. He was very professional. He had the part on his truck that I needed. He put it on and was gone in 30 minutes. I've dealt with a lot of people over the years. And this was fast, convenient service. I thought it would take weeks to order the part and it would take a while to get it in and it would be a long-drawn-out thing. It's expensive to use American Home Shield, but if something does happen, they'll send somebody out. We've called them a million times. We had the rekey service done when we bought the house. There was a toilet that was leaking too, and a guy came to do the service. It works now. Recently, our air conditioner wouldn't turn on and the fan wouldn't either. The thermostats click like they're supposed to work, but then nothing happens. We called American Home Shield, and it's an open claim now. The contractor said it was gonna be a week before he could come out. It’s summer.
We also had the dishwasher fixed and I was very angry about it because the guy that came the first time to do the assessment said, “Hey, look, for 50 bucks, we can clean out all of your dryer vents and the vents that lead to the outside as well.” I said, “Sure. Let's do it.” He charged me for it, then he said, “Okay. When the parts come in next week, I'll bring them back and do it.” It was never done because a different provider came out. So, I was out $50. Our air conditioner was not keeping the house cold enough. It took so long to get below 74 or 72. I called American Home Shield and it was easy to get through. I paid the $100 deductible for someone to come out however I did not get a person assigned to me for over a week. I had to call and ask again for somebody. Nobody ever contacted me. A tech came out and he was very knowledgeable. He checked the inside as well as the filter. He went outside, unplugged it, and plugged it in. He checked the ignition and the amount of electricity. Everything was fine. He said the unit is retired and this model was not being made anymore.
Since the unit is working, the tech mentioned that I might need to buy another supplemental unit in order to cool the house. If it was to go out on me, I had to buy a whole new air conditioner. It’s a very weird situation. On the whole, American Home Shield has been worth it for me as a new old home purchaser. I would like to re-up this next year. I have an older home and things happen so I prefer protection.

Recently, All South AC fixed both units. They seemed to know what they were doing. They said the downstairs unit needed a fuse and there was a loose wire. For the upstairs unit, they said it was a condenser. The upstairs unit is doing fine but the downstairs has gone out again. They’ve got to come back out.
We have had wonderful service with American Home Shield until the microwave. There was a great deal of stress with their representative over that microwave. We talked to one person that would tell us one thing and we would arrange that. Then when the electrician showed up to give American Home Shield the information, they said they couldn't do that. He said, “Why did you ask me to come out here?” The rep said, "I see your point, but we can’t replace that.” The electrician had to leave. They paid him to come out but nothing was ever done.
I would never recommend that company that American Home Home Shield sent out. They came out to repair the microwave, yet they could not repair it. They had to take it to the shop, which we didn’t know any different. They took it out and kept it for 10 weeks. When they brought it back, they set it on the kitchen counter. The unit weighs 250 pounds and we’re 50 years old. They said they didn't do installation. American Home Shield had to get an electrician to come out and install it. When he installed, it didn’t work. The turntable was also broken. Again, we had to go back and forth with the agents at American Home Shield.
American Home Shield agreed to give us a new unit, but unfortunately, there was none available that was like the one we had. We sat here waiting. Finally, we agreed to settle. They sent in a $1,600 check which was to be spent at Lowe’s. But Lowe’s didn’t have the unit either. We ended up having to buy the unit at Home Depot. Because we bought it at Home Depot, American Home Shield is saying we will pay the same electrician to come back out and install this one because we didn’t get it at their appliance place. Right now, that oven is sitting in the cabinet and does not work at all.

When making claims with American Home Shield, you have to go through the prompts and it’s sometimes a little difficult to get somebody on the phone. A lot of home warranty companies just instruct the contractors to not condemn units and to put a band-aid on things and just fix them. I've got friends that work for home warranty companies and that's the motive. But when things are ready to be replaced and the homeowner is willing to pay their fair share of the cost, they need to look at how long has this customer been a customer, how many claims they put in, and for how many of the same issues. In an old house that we had years ago, we had American Home Shield and they kept putting a band-aid on things. Finally, they condemned the air handler and the heat pump. I paid my portion of $1,800 and technicians came out and they fixed it. $100 service call is typical with inflation and the price of fuel.
We used the home warranty when there was no airflow. When we bought this home, we inherited a lot of problems and we're just weeding through them and fixing them as they come up. The other home warranty company that we had was First American and that was what was provided. Technicians came out six different times and these were from six different companies to fix the same issue. We just got fed up so we finally said, “Keep the money, we're going back to American Home Shield." A came out, diagnosed the issue, and he fixed the unit. It’s a really old unit. Again, we're just putting a band-aid on something that is going to crap out on us as soon as the weather hits
Last winter, American Home Shield didn't want to help replace the heat pump. It's gonna happen again this year and we'll just see how American Home Shield handles it. They just kept coming out and putting a heat relay sensor in. When you crawl under there, you will see the same part that has been replaced so many times. Nobody cleans up after themselves and you see the same part lying on the ground with the burn marks in the same spot. When winter rolls around and we go to use the heat and the heat pump, the problem is going to happen again.
That aside, we couldn't be happier with their service even though I didn't really particularly like the turnaround time. Our AC went out and we were without AC for almost three weeks before anybody could get to us. The company that came out said that they could bring me a portable unit and charge me $100. That didn't make sense to me because if they're coming out, why don't they just fix my unit? They said they couldn't. Nevertheless, the guy that came out was awesome. Overall, American Home Shield is one of the better ones out there and we've had good luck with them. We have the best policy that they offer.

I had problems with my air conditioner that we didn't know whether it wasn't working because it wasn't working or there was a problem with a fuse. And it turned out that there was a problem with the fuse.
Any problems that I had have eventually been resolved. But the speed which the problem is taken care of eventually is a little problematic. During COVID, there was a problem with parts that they were slowed down. But there are a couple of times. So, maybe it has been the problem with the actual contractors themselves. There has been some confusion about making appointments. But so far, the contractors have been good, and the quality has been good.

The contractor was JT Ultimate Pools and I had to reach back out to them several days later, so that was odd off the bat. Then, when the tech came out, he told me I didn't have an issue with what I had an issue with. But I still have an issue with it. He said I had another problem, which turned out to be a problem, but he did not really look at my other problem. Then he left and they sent me a estimate. My AC was not coming through. The tech that came out was very professional and on time. He was quick. He noticed how dirty one of the filters were. So it wasn't getting enough air flow through. He took them out and fixed it. I've made a couple of claims with American Home Shield and there were confusion. I had to call twice on different issues and I was getting somewhat the same answer, but different because they really didn't know. Instead of just saying, "Hey, hold on. Let me find that out for you." One of the reps just kind of guessed. Other than that, I haven't had too many issues with them.

The contractor American Home Shield sent has been very good. Their run fee is too high, though. They charge $100 just to come out. It should be lower. I thought about changing them. The run fee and what they don't cover are disturbing. They need to do a better job of mentioning what they don't cover on particular items. We had a garage door and we almost paid as much for fixing it as we could just without American Home Shield. They didn't cover it. I could have gotten a contractor on my own cheaper than what we ended up paying.

Our recent claim with AHS was a refrigerator that a compressor and evaporator had gone south on. The gentleman came out initially and assessed the situation why the refrigerator did not work. Once he determined what parts were needed, he ordered them. Within the usual time period, came back and installed it. It took about three weeks to get the parts in stock. Once it was in stock, he was very prompt in installing it. It’s working perfectly now.
The claim process with American Home Shield is very good. The only frustration we had originally, with another claim similar, the designated repair was incommunicado, both from their service and from us. We waited months. In fact, we had another refrigerator that we finally had removed from American Home Shield and go to the original warranty to get repaired. But we’re very satisfied with AHS. The claims are handled very promptly. Their people are very responsive to our inquiries. When we had problems with a provider, they intervened through their various departments and were quite good at getting back to us.
That's exactly what we like to hear. We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a great week.

I cancelled my policy because I've been paying for three years and when I called for issues, they could not help me with my situation. When I started out, it was $101 a month. The next year, it went up to $106 a month. Now, it's up to $115.23. What am I paying for? My water pressure was down and it was a well issue from what I was told but AHS couldn't help me. I've had to pay $115.23 a month and when I called for assistance, I had to pay another $115.23. Then after I cancelled my policy, they sent me a thing saying I owe $108.07 to close the policy. I was so disappointed. If you get the policy, make sure that they tell you what they don't do or what they can do.

The thermostat went offline and it was clogged up. It took a little while to get the contractor out. I had to call American Home Shield and then they had to call and schedule the appointment. So from the time I called American Home Shield to the time they came out, it was about five days. But the contractor was excellent. Everything came back online and started working. I also had a contractor come out and fix my refrigerator when I first bought the house and they were like $2 from having to replace it. But it works now.
American Home Shield has been good to me. I just call and pay my $75 and the technician comes out, fixes what he's got to fix and then leaves. But they should make the turnaround time a little bit faster. But I understand that the contractor was booked up. So they can only fit American Home Shield in when they can fit them in.

I have two air conditioners. One, the guy came, found a valve and fixed it right away. With the other one, the repair people couldn't fix it, so I worked it out with American Home Shield and got a credit toward a new one. They offered me a replacement, but I needed a beefier one, so I took the cash-out option and bought a new one. It worked out well. From when they approved the diagnosis to when I finally received the check, it was two weeks.
American Home Shield's customer service is great to work with. There was a rough patch during COVID where it was really hard to get people on the phone, but that seems to be fixed now. I call up, and they answer pretty quickly. The most recent instance, I put in the ticket in the morning and immediately, I got a name and a number of the business. I just called them up and they came right away and got it resolved quickly.
It ain’t always been this good though. We have another policy at another house in New Orleans, and for example, the dishwasher has been dragging on for eight months. Many things go on for months. Parts are on backorder, or they can't find anybody to fix it. It's hit-or-miss. I'd like to see a longer warranty as well. Sometimes the same problem will reoccur after the extended coverage period then you gotta start all over and pay the deductible again.

I have no idea how American Home Shield (AHS) stays in business! They have been sued before, but apparently they have not learned anything.
I have been waiting for 2 weeks now to have my dishwasher fixed; I have been on the phone with them and with their so called 'Escalation Department', and all their 'Escalation Department' knows how to do is significantly escalate the additional waiting time. The people I have been talking to for 2 weeks now -trying to get them to send another contractor out, (because the first one they sent has dropped off the phase of the earth!)- are totally clueless and keep repeating some script AHS has given them. Our case has been open since June 3rd yet still no resolution. Our freezer is broken in the middle of the summer and they have been falsely claiming in various emails dated different dates that the part has been ordered. She I called the Appliance company, they have no word when the part will arrive from the manufacturer. We have been told that the fridge will be replaced if the part will not arrive and it didn't know. We also was told and promise that we are eligible for a voucher in the amount of $150 to get a small fridge while waiting for the part, yet we didn't get that either.
We have been waiting since June 3rd and no working freezer, no part, no replacement. This is a fraud, since they are not honoring the contract yet we are paying monthly membership. We had a main sewer line break and it was sending sewer gas into the house and I have three young children. I called and said they have to send somebody out here right away. They said they couldn't get somebody out here for three weeks, which was not acceptable. They made an exemption and they used a company that was local to Barstow. This company was great. They had to take out some floor tile and drill through the concrete. When they were done, it was like nothing had happened. An old cast iron pipe about four feet tall cracked and the company came out and replaced it with a PVC, then got it up-to-code.
Then, my husband said the kids are putting Sharpie on the wall. We thought we were just going to take out a little patch of drywall but we had to take out an eight-foot section of drywall that went about six feet up the wall. We found black mold so I called and said I need another plumber out here. AHS sent a company that was about 100 miles away instead of using somebody local and they wouldn't approve the plumber that we used before.
The vent pipe goes up through the ceiling and the top portion is an asbestos trap pipe. It meets a cast iron, almost like a T-connection, and then the bottom part is the PVC. The best we could come up with is that there was water in the pipe and it had condensed on the iron portion and that's where all the mold came from. The company told me that there was no sign of mold. But you can clearly see it on the driveway because we had had the wall open for about two months. They said there was no problem with the plumbing and to just go ahead and drywall it back up. But the tech said he could give me a separate quote for replacing all of this and my bathroom plumbing for $3,000. He was telling me that there was no problem, but he'd go ahead and replace it. I don't get that. I got very angry and I kicked them out.
I called AHS and told them I cannot believe they do business with those people. They completely wanted to do things off the books and said that there was no problem. AHS sent out a second guy and he said the same thing. They didn't see any issues and that the asbestos pipe would have to go through the home insurance. At that point, we just gave up because we couldn't get any answers. We're just keeping an eye on it.
Recently, we had to use AHS to service an AC unit and Cool Image was a good company. The problem is AHS is cheaping out on everyone and Cool Image will not work with them anymore. The problem with the AC unit is that there was a leak in one of the hoses and the Freon was burning and the coils have to be cleaned. AHS paid $700 for it and I had to pay $600 out of pocket. This is where AHS is not realistic because their contract says that they will pay $10 per pound of Freon, except the going cost of Freon is about $200 per pound.
Also, the rep who called me was very hard to understand. When I asked him to explain why he wanted me to pay the $600 bill, he was just like, "Well, just pay it." I don't know if he didn't have access to the contract or wasn't able to tell me why. That's when I gave up on that phone call and called Cool Image. I needed more of an explanation. Then, I went online and read my contract, maybe I can figure out why they're only paying $10 per pound of Freon if that's not really the going rate. But the website was down for a week. I couldn't even go in and answer my own question and I was not able to contact anyone to send an email. Before Cool Image, I was going to go with another warranty company but Cool Image kind of saved it for now.

I called American Home Shield yesterday at 5:00 and spoke with someone. They said somebody from customer care was going to call back and talk to me about what the warranty coverage is going to cover on our AC unit. We've been without air for about a month now. It's a long time. But we understand with COVID that there are difficulties in getting people out.
We've used American Home Shield many times for other appliances too and we've always been very happy with them. But there's not enough staff to get people here. The first time we called for the AC, it took about two weeks before anyone came out. They fixed two things and they said, "Let it run for 24 hours and see if it fixes it. If not, give us a call and we'll do a call back." Which is what happened. Then it took them another two weeks to get a person back to our home. So now we're kind of in limbo. We don't know what's going to happen with the unit. But we need something done to our unit. Either it needs to be replaced or repaired as the contract says. But I'm happy with the contractor. They're always cordial. They answer the phone at the office, which a lot of places don't do.

American Home Shield informed me that I was allowed to find my own technician. I tried to find a technician but two days later, I still could not find one because nobody was willing to work with the home warranty company. I called back to American Home Shield's customer service to help me out. They said they could help me out. The rep had to cancel my original service request then create a new service request for me so that the system could look for new technician.
The same day, I found one technician who could fix the issue for me. I knew I had to call American Home Shield to get approval to get a fix but I needed to wait for 15 minutes for the call to be answered. I hung up the call because the system said they would call me back. When they called me back, my technician already fixed the work. Apparently, that night, American Home Shield finally found a technician who could help me fix the issue. I started the reimbursement process. So far, we're satisfied with American Home Shield. They're performing as expected. We've had a couple of snafus, but they've handled them well. One of their vendors has been pretty bad to deal with. They were unprofessional. They sent out an unprofessional person three times. The first guy was miserable. He was trying to make money. I don't know what he was trying to do, but he didn't come prepared. We started with the inspection and he did a half job even though we paid full price for two units. He didn't do what he was supposed to do. Everything was working fine on our air conditioning. We have our HVAC check twice a year and have always done that for 40 years. This guy came and said, "Well, there's something wrong with your board or whatever. So, we're gonna go fix it." He left and they ordered a part. Apparently, it's a $1,000 part. He brought it back, put it in, he didn't check it and he left.
We have two units. We have one in our attic for our second floor and one down for the bottom. I said, "You never checked that." He came in his personal Mercedes. He went upstairs and went into the family room, checked the downstairs one, and checked outside. He told my husband he couldn't go up to the attic because he didn't have a ladder. His truck was out for repair, so he didn't have a ladder. He had a little bag of tools. I questioned him about it and said, "Are you gonna go upstairs? When are you coming back to do that?"
He argued with me. He said, "That's for heat." I said, "Well, that's funny because when the motor went out on that, we didn't have air conditioning for a week. So you're telling me that that doesn't have...?" He said, "I did what you paid me to do. I have 30 years of experience in this. That's just the way it is." He left, and that was all outside. I was so mad at him. It was the heat at that point in time because it was back in the spring when it was cold. We just had unseasonably cold weather. So, we didn't turn our AC on or our heat on for a while because we didn't need it because we tried to not use it because we like outside air to come in. It was two weeks before we needed the air conditioning and we turned it on and it didn't work.
I called them again and when they came back out, I said, "I don't want that man here. I don't want him anywhere near my property ever again." I finally complained enough that I got someone we presumed to be and appeared to be a professional and knew what he was talking about. They sent the guy, Rufus, out. He told us, "Oh, well, the motor, it isn't what we thought." When the other guy put in this new board, he didn't know what he was doing and he didn't test it. So, he didn't hook up certain series of wires. Rufus fixed it. He tested it, it started to run, and then, it quit again a week later. We called back, and that time, they came out. We didn't pay for that visit. The guy was like, "Oh, your motor's burned up. Well, those motors just go out. We can't really forecast it or whatever." So, I was like, "All right, fine." I had called them directly.
I didn't call AHS because, with AHS, somebody hadn't done something right in the system. I don't even know who does what in the system but when I went into the system, it didn't give me an opportunity for a recheck. It said I had to pay again. So, I wasn't going to pay again to anybody, and I couldn't get through to anyone on the telephone at AHS. That's my biggest complaint with them. The guy who came out said, "Well, it's different. It's something different than what was there the first time. So, we can't fix it. Well, I have one on the truck because I figured it might do that." Then he said, "I can't do it because you went through us directly and you didn't go through the proper channel."
So, I went to AHS. I had pitched such a fit with them a number of times that we had to have these incompetent people come out here, and I told them, "You change me or I leave because I'm not going to deal with your stupid vendors anymore. If you stick to your quality of vendor, we have no relationship going forward." My neighbor uses United Temp through AHS, so I told them that's who I wanted to go with because my neighbor's very particular and he's very satisfied with them. So, AHS had already changed us over to the United Air Temp in the system.
I put in a new order and I was like, "I'll pay that other fee because I'm not going to have these yahoos in my house anymore." So, I did. The young man from United Air Temp that came is very nice. He was extremely knowledgeable. He made perfect sense. He explained everything to us. He said, "The problem is that it is your motor." He came back with the motor a couple of weeks later. In the end, they resolved everything.
The HVAC fiasco was a disaster and I was on the verge of canceling with AHS because of their vendor, and their inability. I don't like not being able to talk to somebody when I have a situation. I never get through to anybody. That irritates me to no end. I've been in customer service for 40 years, so it annoys me when everything is so automated that they take my money every month with no problem but if I have a situation, I can't get in touch with them. Once they recognize the situation, then they're fine. They'll call you and check things.

My AC upstairs wasn't coming on. So, Eagle Heating came out one time. First, when I made the claim to American Home Shield, the unit was off. It kicked back on, but it kept going on and off. So, when I called and made the claim, I was telling them that. When they came out the first time, the tech was like, “Well, ain’t nothing wrong with it.” A few days later, it came off completely and didn't come back on. I was telling the tech what it was doing the first time he came, but he just said, “I checked all the levels and all of that. Your coolant level is good. Your Freon is good.” I was like, “Man, that ain’t what’s going on. I’m telling you what it’s doing.” When he came the second time, he said the problem was the fan motor. My mom was here at that time, and he said that he changed the fan motor and did some other stuff but I don’t know if he actually did that or not. It's working fine now. AHS did well. They got on top of it. I always tell people to get AHS.

Underneath the kitchen sink was wet and it looked like something had leaked. I noticed that when the dishwasher was finishing its cycle, water came up. I called American Home Shield and the tech came at the time he said he was going to come. He explained to me what he was doing before he did it and made sure everything was cleaned up and dried up.
The tech told me that one issue was the piping drain thing that went from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal. He told me that it needed to be cleaned out. Also, the issue with the sink was there was a screw thing on the bottom of the sink, where you put the drain spout, that was worn out. So he told me he needed to replace that. He took care of everything and showed me what he did before he left.

For the most part, I'm liking the service. It sucks that I've had to use it so much because I moved in and things kept breaking but it's been easy to use. The only minor complaint I had was with one of the contractors who insisted on a video call when I knew what the error was. So, that just delayed everything because they did a video call for me to tell them what I already told them in my email. Other than that, American Home Shield has been great. But if it was an issue where something wasn't really taxing for them to do, it would be nice if there was a reduction of cost from $100 to $50 call-out fee. One of the motors in the dishwasher was broken, so the water wouldn't go out. When you first call American Home Shield, there's an automation that you go through, and before I could even get any further, I had to do something with payment before I got into the issue. I get it that everybody's moving over to AI. But it seemed a lot more automated than it could be personalized or have someone on the other end.
Another issue I had was they upgraded how they do their services where I had to get online with someone and do almost a FaceTime call. They could see the appliance but that came left field for me, and we had some issues with that at first. They told me, “We have to do this before we move forward.” I was wondering what if I'm that 65-year-old at home by myself, and this is the only phone I have? We finally got that going but I had to get another phone to do that. Once I was finally able to get it, was easy because I could transition quickly. But for someone else who may not have had that extra resource, I don’t know what they would have done.

I've used American Home Shield for plumbing issues and the air conditioning issue, and it was the same company that has come for everything. I had an issue with that company, but I was able to get that rectified. Over the wintertime, American Home Shield ran a special about getting the health check for the furnace. I paid the $100 and had the contractor come check the furnace. They upsold me an air conditioner check where they would come, clean the air conditioner and check the overall health. I told them what was wrong when I scheduled the appointment. The lady said an air conditioner check didn't cover cleaning the air conditioner but if there was something wrong with the air conditioner, they were gonna tell me.
My frustration was the man told me my air conditioner was in perfect working condition. However, I had to pay for a claim for the air conditioner, so it was not. When I called American Home Shield at the beginning of the summer to check, the contractor told me they couldn't come back out to diagnose for three more weeks. Then, after the diagnosis, it was another two more weeks before repair so it took me five weeks. I was peeved about that because they had the opportunity to put it in the notes and send a tech that knew what he was doing. But they sent a tech that didn't even clean my air conditioner and couldn't tell me my compressor was broken.
Other than that, they have come a plethora of times. They came for my heater and the plumbing issue when my sink was leaking, and they've always had 5 stars from me. I work in customer service and I know what human error is. When I call American Home Shield and ask them questions, they don't give me any reason to say my service is bad. Their contractor has come and pointed out some things to me in my own house that I never noticed.

Absolutely horrible company. They are essentially a referral service. They charge you the deductible to get the least qualified repair person to come out. The repair person will almost always find a reason to upsell you to some other service, product, or replacement. AHS will also find multiple reasons why something is not covered. Each and every call I have made to AHS has been met with some type of resistance.
Dishwasher: "We can't complete the repair because it required that the dishwasher be uninstalled first." Plumbing leak: Without even looking at the pipe, "That is damaged due to frozen pipes." Nope. That wasn't it. It was a screw installed by a different contractor. Broken AC. "We only pay $10/lb for the refrigerant. You will need 12 lbs at $200/lb. Your out-of-pocket cost to REPAIR your AC is $3200. We need to install an aftermarket evaporator coil on your AC because they don't make your part anymore. It won't fit in your current unit. You are responsible for the cost of the modification. You haven't had AC for 20 days? Wait 10 more days while we decide what your cash-out option will be." Stay far away from this company. I would give zero stars if I could.

We purchased the American Home Shield Platinum Warranty when we moved into our home in April. On June 20th, 2022, we had their repairman come out to repair our Bosch 30" microwave/oven combo. It was not repairable and as the entire unit is wired as one, the entire unit needed replacing. We were offered a replacement list to choose from. There were microwaves, ovens a few 24" double ovens, but no items were comparable to our unit! We have called and called - sent to different departments, and finally, I said I would be happy to be put on a waiting list until they have access to the correct unit. Nick said that they would not put us on a waiting list for the correct replacement - they do not do that. They do not have a unit like ours.
They state that we are covered for each malfunction up to $6000.00. I suggest that they send me a check for $6,000.00 and I would get my unit replaced. He replied. "We do not do that". They state, "It’s the place we welcome friends and family, and greet new people. It’s where our company meets homeowners face to face to help them deal with the hassles of owning a home. We’re a difference maker for homeowners. We listen to them, share our expertise, anticipate their needs and fix their problems. Simply put, we make homeownership simple." Fix their problems?!
Further, on the AHS site, "Our goal is to empower homeowners to feel confident and in control of their home. We want to help you keep your home running smoothly, all the time. We aren't insurance. We provide plans for people with home systems and appliances they'd like to keep in working order, regardless of their age or condition." I would like to keep my microwave/oven combo (listed on the appliances included with my warranty) in working order! AHS Mission, Vision & Values AHS Mission Statement. "Our goal is to make owning a home easier by helping our customers protect their budgets from large, unexpected repair costs." AHS Vision Statement. I didn't have to wait because they called me right away. In fact, I didn't have to spend more money because I still had credit from the last go-round and I was able to use that. I was very satisfied. Our air conditioner was coming in and out, and the tech looked at it and did some stuff to it. At some point, he said we might have to upgrade to a bigger unit than what we have.
Years back, my air conditioner was completely out. I called and I couldn't get ahold of anybody. American Home Shield called, and the company wouldn't even come out. American Home Shield called Arctic Air and they came out really quickly at that time. Since then, I was hoping that they would call Arctic Air this go-round. changes the status of a request. When I log into my account and see that open request, the status says that the contractor is trying to reach us and we are not reachable. Nobody has ever called me. It's me who has been following up. The contractor has also come here five times, and so far, only one small piece of work has been done. The rest, different people come every time and they check, try to fix it and say it needs to be replaced. So everything is open.
With the garbage disposal, there is smoke in there that comes out. The guy has come five times, and every time I'm told that next time, somebody will come and replace it. With the faucet, it's the same story. I was told that the faucet will be delivered, but I don't know if it will be delivered to them or only the cartridge will be delivered.
Three months ago, we had a very small complaint. Water was coming out of our dishwasher and there were some issues with the garbage disposal as well. The guy put something in and that was it. It was pretty quick. There was no replacement or work done and it was okay. Last year, September, one of our ACs stopped working, and it took more than two months. Some time after the initial inspection, American Home Shield called and told me there were two options. Either I get the work done or they order the part and get it done, which was gonna take four weeks. If I get it done, then they will pay me almost half of the money that the contractor was asking. I said, "Okay. I'll wait. You guys get it done."
Whatever estimated time they gave, we agreed, but that four weeks took more than eight weeks to get it all done. I understand that there are some supply chain issues going on and they might be ordering the part in the cheapest possible price, because it's an insurance company. That's okay, but whenever there is work needed where they have to spend or replace a part, it sucks. Sometimes I think I'm not gonna continue this insurance plan and later this year when my contract goes up, I'm gonna discontinue it.
American Home Shield should learn from companies where there is an utmost focus on customer experience. The last time, I was upstairs and having some meetings when the plumber came in our house. My wife received him, and she called me because that guy was smelling so bad. I don't know how many drinks he had, but you can smell the alcohol on him from 10 feet away.

Because I noticed that many areas where you get into trouble with some home repairment, it is not part of the home warranty coverage.
Last year, when I wanted to renew my contract for another year with AHS, I talked to the guy representative and he said, “Okay, I'll give you a special discount.” He gave me a discount and then he said, “Okay, for now, we're gonna charge you the full amount as in the contract. But then, we're gonna bring back to that $75 or $100 reimbursement, but in a few weeks." I told him, “Okay, that's fine. As long as you guys consider that discount as you guys promised, that's fine.” I ended up calling about five times and it still wasn't taken care of. It took about two months and after calling five times calling, they reimbursed the money. I told AHS that I was not happy with that kind of customer service. If I didn't follow up, nobody cared. If they promised something, they should do it immediately.

We have American Home Shield on this house. I also have it on another house that I acquired through my sister's passing. And it has been working out great. I like it. We did the checkup on the AC. The guy came out, checked the AC, and said everything was fine. The contractor did good. Three weeks later, I had to put in a request to have service on the AC. It wasn't cooling. That was when AHS sent out HC Mechanical. The guy went up and checked it. He ended up saying that it needed Freon. But I thought that other guy, when he did his checkup, would have checked it from the other one when he was here three weeks before. So, this new guy added a bit of Freon. And he mentioned something about a float valve.
This air conditioner is only five years old. So, I’m not sure if I need to put in another request or we’re trying to see. We have a smart thermostat anyway. It knows we're not in the house, so the air conditioner won't come on as much. But when we're home, it comes on like it's supposed to. But my husband said it has not been cooling as well.
Once after he left, one prompted the call to the exact guy. And when he was here, it happened to be working okay because I had shut the system off. I thought it was dripping good, which I thought the overflow valve must have tripped, so the fan will come on, but no air conditioner was working. We had another line that went out. That one started dripping. That was when I realized it must be frozen up. I put the heat on upstairs, because we have two different thermostats for the same unit. And it started coming out a gallon of water every couple of minutes. And I thought it unfroze itself. So, that might better help them diagnose what's going on. We still have to put the heat on at 85 when it’s 95 out to get the system to start working again. But he had said something about a valve. We went and cleaned out the line. I did with a vacuum cleaner. Sucked them down. But it needs to be done from the top. I can’t get up there. It’s high up in the attic.
I noticed that my premium went up on one of them. One charge on my credit card was $59, and the other was $69. So, I wasn't sure which one that was actually on. Other than that, I recommended American Home Shield to my niece. They're pushed to close on buying a house at the end of August. I asked her about a home warranty and she said she doesn't know what that is. So, I explained it to her and told her who I had. I'm happy with it.

My water heater was leaking, so I called American Home Shield and gave them the information. However, I didn't notice Home Shield had some type of connection and when I called at first, I put it on that. When the man came over here and told me, that's when I realized I put the claim on the wrong thing. I went back and we changed it all. It just so happened the plumber that came was contracted through American Home Shield. He came out and took pictures of the water heater, and everything was smooth from that day on. We just had to wait till they got the water heater up there.
It took almost a week for us to get the new heater, but once the plumber got it, he brought it out here and put it in. It took him an hour and a half and it was done. Now, it's still working fine. Having American Home Shield is convenient. I'm elderly and I can't fix stuff like I used to. When I call AHS, I don't have to worry about trying to line up to the plumber or the contractor to come out here and do it. They take care of that. So I'm good with it.

The plumber went above and beyond what I was hoping to have. The sewer line from the main bathroom had ruptured so it was leaking into the backyard. He came over and didn't think he had to go into the house, but he did 'cause he wanted to make sure that there was nothing more severe. What was nice was since they're a local vendor, the plumber had been out to the property long before I owned it. He surprisingly recalled some issues that the house had. Through that knowledge, he was able to tell me what I could expect into the future and potential fixes I might want to think about making. But for the most part, he fixed the problem and told me what I needed to do. I have a dog, and he was cognizant of it and made sure that I needed to remove all the soil. He also gave me some recommendations on where to cost effectively buy that. I was pleased with the service I got.

At nighttime, that was when it was going down up to 86 but during the day, the temperature was normal. I think it ran out of coolant, and it also had a leak. The techs that came out through American Home Shield were very friendly. They looked like they knew what they were doing. They looked very professional. They checked everything, and they told us what the problem was. They said that they were going to try to fix it, which they did. They did something that day, but just in a few more days, the same thing again was happening. The Freon went out again. It had another leak, which they came back and they fixed it too. My only complaint would be the modifications within my policy because I've been having to pay for those. When they use the word modification, American Home Shield doesn't cover that. I found out through Mr. Rooter that it depends on the policy that you hold. AHS has the platinum where it covers that. At least that's what was explained to me by them. But I like that AHS can send contractors and repair my appliances or utilities.
Mr. Rooter came out once because I had a water line that busted and they fixed that. This last one that they came out, my washer drain had a hole in it. And that was done from a previous contractor. They also fixed that. They made contact the next day after I contacted AHS. We scheduled an appointment that was convenient for me, and they came out that day. They fixed it, explained everything the process of fixing that drain in detail. They showed me pictures, tested the lines, and everything worked fine. They were great both times. I went out online and clicked the button, and I was blown away because I did it at 8:30, Friday morning, and by 10:00, the plumber called me and said, “I have a break around 1:00. Can I call you?” I said, “I work five minutes from home. That'd be perfect.” I emptied everything out from under my sink, because I've replaced the garbage disposal before in my younger years, and the plumber thanked me profusely. He said most people don't do that.
The plumber took off the garbage disposal and found a penny in it. He said, “It looks so bad, it's probably been in there for years. But it finally just caught.” He got that out, and it all worked then he put it back on. He was very personable and informative, and I was staring at him the whole time. He showed me what he was doing and the tool and offered to give me one. I said, “Well, I already have one. So you don't need to do that. I just didn't know what it was for.” He was great, and from the time I hit the button on the internet till the time the disposal was fixed, it was less than four hours. It was awesome.

A guy came on a Friday and found that the problem turned out to be the hot water heater. He had to go back in contact with American Home Shield and ordered a hot water heater. On certain things, American Home Shield was great. And on the most expensive item, which was the AC malfunctioning, they denied it. That pisses me off. Because last summer, they made this big uptick that they needed this $75 a month service to cover everything, yet when it was something that was $600, they denied it. So, AHS sucks. That's ** when I look at how much money I spent, and the fact they denied that claim. They said that it was multi-zone and yada, yada. But last summer, they did a big sales pitch that everything in my house would be covered. I consider AC an essential. So, had they said that my unit wouldn't be covered, who knows if I would have spent $75 a month for the last several months with them, or continue my contracts with them?
I had signed up with AHS to do an AC health check spring thing. So, I paid the fee for it, or they'd held the fee for it. And they ended up canceling it because they couldn't find anyone to do the service. But there was no communication to me as a customer. There was no text or emails. I didn’t understand why it was canceled. I didn't even know it was canceled until I was like looking for something else, and I see this note saying that's canceled. The lying and deceit way outperforms the good things I got from them.

My last experience during the heatwave sucked. Our AC went out and I didn't call American Home Shield right away. I filed it online. It all happened on a Monday night, so I wasn't expecting anything right away. I was expecting something, though, the next business day, at least. To me, if you're saying I'm having air conditioning trouble in summer or heating issues in winter, that should be I get a call that day to get me on the thing. Because I also had the furnace go out in January during the cold snap here. We live in Ohio so we're not used to that 90-degree heat to begin with, but 90 plus 80% humidity, if I don't have the ocean outside my door, that's not the right setting. My wife has health conditions, and extreme heat or cold aggravates her heart condition.
I have two dogs and a cat in the house, and my wife and I both work from home, so it was not like I even had the option of going to work to stay cool for eight hours a day. My animals didn't have that either. My wife was able to take a laptop and she ended up living at a friend's house for a week. Thank God for that because then to top it all off, when American Home Shield finally got somebody out here, the tech got here at 7 o'clock. My thing is, I'm in Springfield, Ohio, and the contractor they hired is in Columbus, which is 45 to 50 minutes away, depending on which part of Columbus they're at. If they need to go back to their workshop to get things done, coming at 7 o'clock at night, they're not going to come back out that night.
There was one night, and they also didn't come out the next day. When I called the contractor, it was, “Oh, we had to order the part,” and that day didn't bother me. I understand supply troubles in this country right now. The guy came out with the part the next day, but probably because of the heat, the plastic thing with the fan and the part they needed on my AC unit were together. The guy had to take the fan to the shop to break it apart so he could repair it properly. That was Thursday. They finally repaired the unit Friday, which was when the cold front went through, so by that point, it was like, “Eh, who cares?”
There's not much compassion at all from the home warranty. The HVAC company my parents used to use, Hauck Brothers in Springfield, have their own similar thing that does only partially of what American Home Shield does. You pay them a monthly fee and if you have a problem, they come out. They do hot water heater, furnace, and AC, which are usually the three things you need a home warranty for. Plumbing is a nice thing to have, but it's not like your plumbing ever just goes out, or you can live without doing your dishes for a few days. When I had an issue in the kitchen with a pipe leaking, I just washed dishes in my bathtub. I know how to improvise. It’s a lot harder to survive without your AC when it's 95 degrees and you definitely can't survive without your furnace when it's 0 degrees.
With the furnace, whoever American Home Shield had, they called and said, “Well, we can be there...” I said, “Look. If you can come out today, I'll pay you whatever the difference is for your emergency fee because I need a furnace now.” They said, “Okay, yeah. We can do that. It'll just cost you an extra 50 bucks.” “Okay, fine." I’ll eat the extra 50 to get them out here so I didn't freeze to death.
I understand American Home Shield has their rules to follow, but as a company, that's feedback they need and they need to think about it. They also need to start thinking about getting other contractors in the city that the customer’s in. Springfield, Ohio is smack dab in the middle between Dayton and Columbus on I-70. They have tons of contractors to choose from. Springfield is not a small town, and there are plenty of HVAC contractors. There's no reason that they should be using somebody in Columbus to come to Springfield or even Dayton come to Springfield. Although, it's a lot easier to come from Dayton to Springfield than Columbus, just because of the lack of traffic.
I'm not gonna be an American Home Shield customer soon. I'm selling my house and I already told my wife, “You know what? I'm not dealing with American Home Shield again. If we want to do something, I'll pay the 50 or 60 bucks to the HVAC company I know and trust.” Also, when I ended up saying to the buyer of this house, “Yeah, I'll do a home warranty,” I was happy they didn't choose American Home Shield. Hopefully, the other one they chose will do better for them if there's an issue.

Now if I am customer service representative calling a customer and I see an open claim waiting to be assigned, you would think they would have it assigned. Still waiting. Time goes by and gets hotter during the progression of summer and it still is not cooling off upstairs. Just blowing air. Finally someone from All in One heating and cooling comes on Friday July 8th. They had rescheduled me with grants heating and cooling again which didn't even do anything the first time.
While talking to American home shield, the conversation just kept going on circles and nothing was getting done to get my AC unit fixed. They said it went back to grants for a second opinion and was going to charge me another $100 service fee. (All in one heating and cooling was the second opinion). I'm not paying another service request fee for them to send grants useless heating and cooling back out here.

It is now Aug. 4th and I still haven't received the $1500. I was notified today that they don't intend to send me any money. STAY AWAY FROM DOING BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!
Original Review: I was an American Home Shield policyholder for just over 9 years. I had very few claims over the years. When my central air unit failed this summer I called American Home Shield. They sent a contractor to make a repair. Their contractor first diagnosed the problem as "low refrigerant." He told me I needed 2 lbs. of refrigerant and that repair would be an additional $700 because the cost of the refrigerant was not covered by AHS. A couple of weeks later my central air was no longer working. I called again, and they sent the contractor back out to replace a bad condenser.
1 day later, the unit was no longer working. This time the diagnosis was a leaking coil. I asked that AHS replace the unit at this point rather than repair the old unit, they refused but agreed to cover the cost of the part only. Replacing the coil would cost me an additional $2,100 out of pocket. I refused that, took a $710 "cash out" offer, and ate the rest of the cost to replace the central air. While my contractor was installing the new central air he diagnosed a cracked heat exchange in my furnace and told me it had to be replaced. I agreed and had them move forward with replacing the furnace as well. When I reported this to AHS they refused to cover the cost of the cracked heat exchange on a technicality in the contract even though the heat exchange is clearly covered in the contract.
On top of their failure to provide the coverage, I was led to believe I have been paying for all of these years their customer service is dreadful. I have made over 30 phone calls to AHS in the past 6 weeks trying to get a straight answer or a resolution to my claim. Oftentimes their representatives couldn't understand English and when they could, they did not have answers to my questions. I was placed on hold numerous times only to be hung up on. All in all, working with AHS has been a terrible experience. They were happy to collect my premiums but when it came time to provide coverage, they failed miserably.

As far as calling in and placing service calls and having people come out and the timing of that, the service has been great. I just added another house onto my portfolio and they've been great with making some of the replacements even in my primary home. Where I'm stuck right now is I was told that I could not upgrade my primary home policy because I have had a number of claims against me that are held against me. That's an issue for me and that is the reason that I decided to cancel that primary home one.
The one complaint I have with the primary home was that a contractor replaced a garbage disposal and he took out a nice, builder-grade one. He said it would be an upgrade to put that same one of the same size in and I would have to pay the difference. I told him, "No, I'm not going to pay the difference." And so, he just put in this tiny RV-size garbage disposal and said, "This might not last you very long. But if you're the only person in the home, then it'd probably be okay." I was like, "Oh, my God." I thought I was supposed to get a comparable item to what they were taking out, but I didn't get that.
The current issue I have on my second home is that there are wires that need to be replaced. The contractor is telling me that there would be an upcharge for them to replace the wiring because of the time and labor it would take to do the job. So, instead of doing the job, they have been patching it and switching wires from the heater to the AC. So, that means my heater won't work. He said, "You don't need it in the summer anyway. So, in the fall, you just call back and we'll switch the lighters back to the heater." That's odd. Who does that rather than just replacing the wires? There seems to be a disconnect between what I thought I was getting with my contract with AHS and what the contractors are willing to do.

I had several outlets that were not getting electricity to them. The tech that came was amazing and he brought another technician with him in another vehicle. That was totally unnecessary because it took them half an hour to resolve the issue. I got charged twice by the electrical company for two visits, which was unfair. Also, a plumber was supposed to be here on Friday last week and he never showed up. I tried to get ahold of him but nothing. And I was charged for that.
I had problems with that same plumber before from Yamaz Plumbing and that was why I requested a different plumber. A couple of years ago, I had a leak from my upstairs bathroom and it was dripping. The plumber from Yamaz Plumbing just said that I didn't need hot water and that we should just turn off the hot water. That supposedly resolved the issue. I don’t get hot water at my bathroom sink. The other person that came out before named Justin was very efficient and seemed very knowledgeable. He really knew what he was talking about.
I'm not happy at all and I need to pull American Home Shield. It seems like the people that they send out just do that and say, “Here you go.” They're not gonna try to even dig deeper to resolve issues. American Home Shield should get better technicians. The electrical guy was good. He seemed to know what he was doing and was very efficient, but not enough to charge me twice for a small issue that I had. While they were there I wanted them to check my track lighting that was out. I was getting a new roof put on and it might have been from a leak. He said they didn't even want to deal with that.
The technicians that American Home Shield hires just want to do the basics. Why am I even bothering with paying this money every month when I can be probably saving money in the long run? This warranty company should get technicians that are willing to go the distance. I've spent so many hours on the phone with people trying to talk to them about what I needed. I was so upset. Another thing is it's hard to navigate the American Home Shield website. I tried to do it on the computer to set up somebody and the site was down. It was so frustrating.

There was a PVC joint that was leaking hot water in my basement so I created a ticket online for it. The American Home Shield website is very user-friendly. This time around, it's the only time that I never had to call American Home Shield and finish everything on the website. I appreciate it. Someone called me 15 minutes after I opened the ticket and a contractor was assigned to me. Someone from the contractor's office called me and set up an appointment.
A guy came in and he was out in half an hour. He showed me and informed me that this was normal wear and tear where the pipe was leaking. He replaced that, explained it to me, and cleaned up. He had the parts with him when he came because I specifically told him. This was a leaking pipe and I don't want the diagnosis at one point then fixing another at a different point, so if they come, they have to fix it. I had to put a bucket underneath it until they came. I had a video on hand in order to tell them at the original appointment setup date if they wanted to. But the lady just asked that I explain what happened, which I did. American Home Shield is great. We've had some ups and downs with previous appliance issues, but everything resolved itself out.
I am happy to hear that we were able to resolve your claim. Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. Please let us know if you need assistance in regard to your warranty.

I have multiple homes covered with the American Home Shield. I've had them before, and now I have it. I dropped it for a while because the service got so horrible. But it was one of a few companies that had coverage on multiple appliances. Because I have high-end appliances, and most companies will only cover up to $5,000. I have a Viking oven and the refrigerators. The stove is a $10,000 stove. So, that didn't impress me if you said $5,000, because that's not gonna pay to repair my stove or any of the appliances in my home.
My refrigerator is a $10,000 refrigerator. But it wasn't anything that expensive to repair. The contractor sent one repairman out. The first day that he came out, he looked at it and said, "That's an appliance issue. We don't change the tube from the refrigerator that connects directly to the waterline." Because it was a leak. And they said, "We’ve gotta send an appliance person out." But it took two weeks for the appliance person to come out.
The first time somebody came out, the technician was a little vertically challenged. So where the location of the tube that ran from the refrigerator to the water supply was in the ceiling. This guy may have been 4'10", and he couldn't get to it to repair. He couldn't see it. And I had to show him where it was, get the ladder and show him pictures. He still couldn't see it, so he had to call somebody else up. And when I recorded it, I told him it would just be a two-man job because of the location. But they sent one guy anyway. I warned them. It took two weeks for them to come back out. And they sent two guys. It was a tall guy and the first gentleman came with him. He said, "This is an appliance issue. This is not a plumbing issue. We don't do that." By then, I was ticked off, because I had to take off work every time somebody comes out. And they give you a span of almost five hours from this time to this time.
So he left, "Oh, ma'am, we're gonna have to send this back to American Home Shield." They get their boss on the line, and he said, "No," to verify whether it was them or not. "No, we don't do that. That's an appliance issue." We talked to American Home Shield. They said, "Okay, I'm gonna send an appliance person out." It took three weeks for the appliance guy to come out. As soon as he looked at it, "Oh, no. It's definitely a plumbing issue, because it's not the appliance itself. It's the tube connects to the water system, so that's plumbing. And we don't do that." Now, I'm pissed.
This is the third time. And it took the weeks between, and I have to take off work each time they come. So, I called American Home Shield while he was in the house, and they said, "Well, we don't know where the paperwork is" "Well, I'm sitting here with the paperwork. Would you like for me to read it?" "Well, ma'am, he has to put it in the system." Two weeks after that, AHS sent me a note saying somebody would come back out to finally fix it. And the company said they would fix it. And when they came out the second time, the guy couldn't turn the water off. Now, the water was off. And I told him the water was, but he went to his van, and got the pliers to try to turn it off. And it was off, so he stripped the water line. I didn't find out it was stripped until my husband went to the basement and they left and it was leaking. I had to call for that too. So fourth time, they were sending somebody out, was supposed to order a new part.
The guy didn't realize that this was the same house that he had said he couldn't fix the first time, and didn't have the part in. So he didn't order the part, and he didn't remember that that was the same house, therefore didn't have a hose. Then he tried to say, "Oh, but this is a plumbing issue." That was when I blacked out. I said, "This is the fourth time." He said, "Oh, I'm so sorry. You're right. I remember now. Yeah, but we don't do this." I said, "American Home Shield says you do this." "Oh, ma'am, let me show you." "No, you don't have to show me anything. Because I'm paying for a service. I don't care what you need to do to fix it. I need it fixed." And this has nearly been over a month, and it's still not fixed.
AHS sent me a text yesterday, telling me to take a picture of the brand refrigerator I have, send it to them and they would send somebody out. The guy that was doing all this apologizing took a picture of the brand, the parts and everything he needed. I haven't heard from him since, until the text that I got yesterday saying, "Oh, send me the brand of your refrigerator." As soon as my contract runs out, I'm gonna find somebody, anybody.
Right before we moved, we had issues with the AC unit. AHS kept messing up. And they said, "Oh, you need to add Freon or whatever." So of course, there's only a certain amount. They give you a discount to refill it, but you still have to come out of pocket with a lot of stuff. So, we did what we needed to do. It worked for a minute. We sold the house and we called them the day we closed, told them that we were selling the house, and we added our new house with this. Even before we sold the house, something happened to the unit. And they did all of that. But it really needed to be replaced. Because they will nickel and dime patchwork you to death.
We ended up repairing it, but that didn't fix the problem. But in the midst of it, they said, "You just need a new unit." So we bought a new unit, because they only pay up to so much money. But another technician said it was a different part that needed replaced. So we said, "Wait a minute, you said we needed to buy a new unit and that you guys wouldn't cover it and all of that." But we replaced it anyway. They tried to deny that they said that it needed to be replaced. But we bought a new one, anyway, even though they would pay $1,000 at that particular time to replace the unit. They didn't pay for the entire unit. And they were supposed to reimburse me. Still to this day, they did not reimburse.
They charged my card for three months, even though I had technically sold the house, then sent me a bill for five months telling me that I was late paying the other month, even though I didn't own the house. They were trying to bill me and even said I was delinquent. When I discovered they were still charging my card, I called them and they told me I couldn't get my money back, even though I sold the house and canceled the policy. They said, "It was your daughter that you sold it to, so, you know." I said, "What does that have to do with it? Do you see anywhere where she got services?" They said that wasn’t the point.
I said, "You will never get money. If you want to put it on my credit, go ahead and I'll have my lawyer contact you. Because I want to see it. I need to speak to whoever is in charge of you. Because I'm gonna be very blunt with you, I will never pay any more. You still owe me three months, where you charged my credit card, without my permission, by the way. And as soon as my contracts run out on my other three properties that I have with you, I'm gonna cancel. How about that?”

1st Goal Heating and Cooling was very efficient. The air conditioner all of a sudden stopped working. We didn't get any cool air and the temperature in the house was going up. When it was set up at 74, it would be 80 within an hour. Then all of a sudden, in the middle of the night, it would go back on by itself. 1st Goal came out the first time but didn't see anything wrong. They came out the second time, and it was the same situation. The air conditioner was on.
The third time they came, the tech said, “I don’t see anything wrong but we’re gonna clean it up a little bit. Maybe that’s what does it.” When he was packing up and ready to leave, the fan stopped. Once the fan stopped, he went and checked further. He said it needed a new motor. He was able to detect what was wrong because it stopped as he was there. What happened every time they came out, it was working, and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. But so far, it's been three weeks now, and it's been working fine. I would recommend American Home Shield. I was very happy with the response. I called on Sunday night, and on Monday morning, I got a phone call 1st Goal. They told me that they were gonna come a certain time, and they did.

My washing machine went out and I had to buy another one. I needed to get some coverage in case something else happens. That way, I'm not out so much money out of my pocket. Somebody told me about American Home Shield and I've had it for several months now. Our ceiling fan light would not come on. The fan part worked but the light part did not. I went on American Home Shield's website and turned in the claim. That was very easy. American Home Shield told me that Intertech would be the contractor that would come out and do the work.
Both guys that came out were very professional and nice. The first guy made sure the problem wasn't the wiring in the wall. He checked the light switches and determined it wasn't. He then took the fan down out of the ceiling and looked. The problem was not the ceiling fan either. Intertech contacted American Home Shield and told them that was what was going on and the fan got ordered. A second guy came out and installed the fan for me. Everything is operating and functioning very well. I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I have had people ask me and I've given a good reference.

American Home Shield contracted Air Kool to fix our refrigerator. They changed the wiring in the refrigerator twice. The refrigerator still doesn't work but I don't think that's their fault. The refrigerator is just faulty. The first time, they came back out and fixed some more things for me. Then the third time it happened, they said that it's probably beyond repair and that they've done everything that they could. As far as AHS, I don't know if I would refer them at this time because they're moving slow for me. The refrigerator was deemed unrepairable, and they've been pretty slow in getting us a new refrigerator.

Everything else, I've been happy with. They repaired the stove. The only issue we've had so far is this microwave thing.

American Home Shield has been very good, but I'm not so sure about their selected vendor in the area. I have had a claim with a refrigerator and they've been out three times. The initial claim was the ice maker, and we had a discussion after the repairman said he couldn't do anything more about it and just left it at that. We came to an agreement. I said I didn't want to buy a new refrigerator just because of the ice maker. However, the ice maker is still working. Four weeks ago, the refrigerator stopped being cold. It cools, but it does not remain cold.
A repairman came out and first, he just de-iced it. The second time, he de-iced it and put in a new fan. The gentleman came on Thursday last and said, "That's not a repairman matter." He said he couldn't do anything more and that I would be hearing from American Home Shield. I approached them this morning because I heard nothing more, and they have not heard from the repairman. His report wasn't in. The American Home Shield reps were kind in that they said, "Hold on, we'll try and contact the repairman." He must have been working, so they emailed him, which didn't resolve anything quickly. I tried to contact Appliance Guard, the vendor company that sends out these repairmen, and their voicemail was full. I couldn't even leave a message.
The ice maker claim was quickly done, but this one is taking a little longer to resolve. I have to wait. I said to American Home Shield, "What if I have a pipe break in the wall and water was spewing out? Am I going to have to wait a week for y'all to get this resolved?" There is lack of emergency service and they need to improve on that. A refrigerator should be resolved in days or hours, not a week or more. I'm 84 years old and my refrigerator is not working. I have coolers sitting around with food in it.

AHS did not inform me that their rates were going up for renewal. So there's no real communication there. They just changed and you're blindsided. Another thing is, they only pay for $15 worth of the fluid that goes in the air conditioning to make it cold, but you need $100 worth to really make it work. That is an extreme difference with other companies. But if it was another type of problem, they got it taken care of and overall, when I have called AHS, they've gotten people out here. In fact, I got my refrigerator fixed the other day,

They put a note and made sure that they didn't send them again. But there are times that American Home Shield is good at the warranty. The first time the contractor came out, it was wonderful. That was late June. But the second time they came out, the tech didn't do anything. He just said a jetter and a camera are not covered under the home warranty. He didn’t even look to see if there was an issue or where the plumbing issue was coming from. He asked, "Where’s the little white thing that sticks up and you can unscrew from outside on the side of the home?” I told him it was on the outside. The issue was when my water drains from my washer, it comes up in the tub. He put something in the tub and unstopped it. But the issue rolled back again. They're coming back out tomorrow to look at it again and fix the issue. I requested a different tech this time. American Home Shield may send dispatches over, but they need to communicate on what’s the issue especially if it comes back up again. I don’t think that they talk. They just probably send things over.

The second time, I was still having the smell, just not as strong and in a different area of the house. It was because the shower in the front bathroom had a P-trap in it, but it wasn't in the correct location. It was letting the gases come back up into the house. Having a home warranty will be good if I had a major issue with an appliance, but I haven’t any since I got American Home Shield close to three years ago. When I first got it, I called and the techs came out and checked my air conditioner. The conductor had the wire loosening up on it for some reason. They put that back in there, and it's been working ever since. My brother and my sister have American Home Shield too, and I learned about the company through them. For my brother, they replaced an air conditioning unit and a stove. For my sister, they replaced a washer and dryer and a dishwasher over time.
I used American Home Shield Friday last month for my smoke detectors. The technician was good, and I haven't had any more issues with the smoke detectors. However, it was difficult since American Home Shield didn't have a company in my area, and it took five days to get someone out. They told me that I needed to contact the electrical company, so I contacted them. The company that was assigned to me is in a different city and it's an hour from where I live. The technician also told me that they only service the area when they get enough customers within it.
A year ago, my son-in-law told me that American Home Shield offered a different plan where it covers phones and laptops. The bill would have been $70 something a month instead of what I'm paying now. I called to get it, but I couldn't figure out why they wanted to charge money just to change the plan. I talked to two separate agents and each agent did not fully tell me the truth. Both of them told me, “Oh, yeah. You don't have to pay that,” but then they turned around and charged me $250. I still really wanted that plan, but I ended up having to cancel it. I'm not gonna pay that kind of money just to change the plan.
They wanted to credit the money to my AHS account, but I said no and it took some time to put it back in my bank account. The intake people on the phone were not authorized to do that, so I had to talk to three different people up the chain just to get that done. If the company has someone that's been a customer for a few years, it would be a perk to allow them to upgrade to a different plan for a minimal cost.

I've also had an AC problem and the techs found out that I had a leak from a coil. AHS has good contractors. So far, I've had two good ones but one AC contractor I didn't like and I told AHS to get rid of them. I said, “Because if you send him out to another property, all he wants to do is sell ACs.
