A guy came out and said I needed a new HVAC system. One had to be ordered and shipped, so that took another two weeks. It took three weeks to finally get something installed. I would have appreciated it going through quicker. Also, it's 80 something outside and my house runs constantly at 76. I'm sure it could be colder, but I don't know if I call the place or if I call American Home Shield, and I don't wanna cough up 100 bucks. The co-pays are more than I would like, but it's okay because I've had to get a lot repaired in this new house I just bought. I also had a water heater fixed before that. It would be nice if I didn't have to kick in so much and coming up with 550 to fix my HVAC drained my savings, but it's still better than paying for the whole thousand.

Recently, I had some work done on my house because a pipe burst. AHS sent somebody to assess the damage and it was just wear and tear so the insurance covered that. In the midst of that, there was a situation where some of the work was messed up because the AC was left on so it froze over because it was low on Freon and it was leaking from the ceiling. So, the techs put the pounds of Freon back in there and got it working again
AHS is like every other company out there. They only cover $10 on whatever the cost is for Freon and Freon is pretty expensive. If I'm paying them a monthly charge why, am I having to come out so much money for two pounds of Freon. There should be some form of contract so if a contractor is working under AHS, they have a set amount that American Home Shield is willing to cover and they can't go over the amount.

I'm very happy I took out the warranty plan. I have a side-by-side refrigerator and there was water leaking. It turned out that the L-shaped plastic pipe at the back of the unit wore out. The tech didn't have any in his truck so he had to order me a new piece. He even tried a couple of places that he normally does business with, and they didn't have the model number. He said, “You just won’t have ice or refrigerator water.” I said, “That’s fine. As long as my refrigerator and my freezer is working, I’m fine.” He had to come back, pull the refrigerator out, and fix what he needed to fix. He turned the water that is only for the refrigerator on. He wanted me to constantly run the water through the filter to clean out the tubings. I was very pleased.

We had a couple issues. The biggest problem being that American Home Shield sent out a company that only one star online and had horrific reviews. We looked them up online and they went out of business. They were prosecuted for for tax evasion and the LLC was revoked. But they're still working for American Home Shield under that name that was revoked. We were scared to have them come out but we didn't have a choice. The thing is American Home Shield has the warranty on the unit. We can't just call the company that installed the air conditioning unit because now, every time there's a problem, we have to go through the home warranty.
We were lucky because in the end, the service company never came. In the course of a day, they rescheduled 12 times. We had a national heat warning that week. It was over 100 degrees in the house. We called multiple times and finally, American Home Shield all sent a different company out, which we were super relieved with. After a couple of years of battling our AC unit and putting band-aids on it, it got replaced which is great. But the guy didn't replace the fan because he wasn't authorized to do so. He just repaired it. It'll probably keep going out until the home warranty finally replaces the fan.
On the whole, American Home Shield vetting their vendors is the biggest issue. I have two other homes and I don't know if I want to carry American Home Shield with them because of that. The home warranty saved us a little bit of money in the long run because it helps us with the air conditioning unit. We pay them $100 every service thing a month for two years, until they finally replaced it. It’s better than not having a warranty. But at this point, we were actually discussing canceling the home warranty. We have a new AC unit and it will probably will last 10 years.

I'm paying for insurance that they're supposed to take care of things and all I get is lip service from the plumbers that came out to look at my place. Everybody's telling me that nothing's wrong or that I need to replace everything. I don't think I'm getting any value for the $600 that I spent on this insurance at all and having to pay a $75 fee every time they even come to look at something doesn't make sense to me.
The first contractor who came out here was awful. I tried to explain to him what was going on, where I thought the leak was coming from, and what was happening. He asked me everything about where the plumbing is and I told him where the cleanout is but he said it doesn't look like a cleanout. He said he couldn't do anything and that he was gonna have to send somebody back out.
I made another appointment and they never showed up. The guy promised that if I pick that date they'd be here at 8 o'clock. 9:30 rolled around, I called the company and they said the guy had an emergency. I told them I have other things I could have been doing instead of just sitting and waiting and the rep said, “Well, I think you'd better go do them then." Then, I got another guy to come out and he said that it wasn't what he thought it was. Now, the drains are going really slow. They said they shoved a camera in the drains and everything was fine but now I've got slow drains in the bathroom. I'm not happy with anybody at all and I'm reluctant to call them again.

American Home Shield sends somebody, but nowadays they don't have enough staff. The contractors have a hard time. Usually, it was 24 to 48 hours, but now they said that they have to wait until whatever the contractor’s time. We need a thing fixed so we just have to wait. The recent contractor called us and said they were coming. They did a good job on our AC claim. The tech knew what he was doing, and was very friendly.

American Home Shield sent somebody to fix the microwave. The person was supposed to fix the refrigerator, but he couldn’t do it. He suggested to install a new water valve. There's too much pressure in the refrigerator that’s why the ice maker is always frozen. He said he would make a recommendation. After a few days, I contacted American Home Shield. They said, “No, they haven’t received a recommendation.” I called the company that did the job, AT Appliances. They told me they already sent the recommendation a long time ago.
I called American Home Shield again. I said, “I just spoke to somebody. They already told me they already sent the recommendation. Why you didn’t send somebody to fix the refrigerator?” They said they were going to take care of that. After three more days, nothing. I faxed them the recommendation because I have the paperwork. The guy completed job. I called them and said, “I just faxed the recommendation to you. Please let me know when you’re going to send somebody to fix the refrigerator.” The rep said, “Yeah, we’ll take care of that.” But I’m still waiting. It started on June 26. It’s been three weeks. It's a very bad experience.

I haven't called American Home Shield since COVID till this last time with the dishwasher and the one before that for the plumber, and both were pleasant. When I put the burners on low on my stove, it would turn off. The tech said there were some accessories on those burners and I said it wasn’t like that. Then, he turned an accessory the other way and now, it works fine. The door of the dishwasher was hard to close and the tech said it was how it is. Then, I was surprised that 10 days later, they got the part. He came and said that he wanted to try to see if it works and it did. Also, when I open the dishwasher, it goes all the way down. I didn't tell him but he fixed it himself.
I had issues with my garage door in the past and the company that AHS brought wasn't competent. I had to pay money to get somebody else to open the door. But the last two claims with the dishwasher and the plumber were good so I would recommend AHS to a friend. I always call when I reach out to them and sometimes, the reps don’t understand. But they’re decent.

But I have an issue with 100 bucks each time I have a claim. It can be a lot of money.

My wife and I had AHS when we had our place in Incline Village, Nevada and it seemed like at the time, more people were a lot more responsive and the customer service was a lot better. We bought the warranty again here in our place in Missoula, Montana and it seems that the quality of customer service and responsiveness has significantly gone down. It also seems like the people we speak to are outsourced and it's not always easy to be able to speak to somebody. We had a claim where the customer service reps were not really helpful in contacting the vendor that they were using. It felt like it was more on us to have to do those things and the follow-up. It just didn't seem like they were really knowledgeable about what we were talking about, so that was disappointing.
The cost of the warranty has gone up a lot more, too. That is always a concern from our end but we've not had anything not covered. Aside from that, we recently had a service from All Brands and they were fantastic. They were responsive and friendly. They provided explanations of what was going on, so I really appreciated the transparency.

I canceled my contract with American Home Shield five years ago because they do not provide the service they say. I was totally dissatisfied with the service. For example, the dishwasher. They sent a service technician out. But he could not get it repaired. They always say, “If we can't fix it, we'll replace it.” But, the dishwasher sat in my house unusable for two years. I was still paying my monthly premium to American Home Shield. My AC unit went out. The AC unit was 14 years now. It has served its purpose. They sent out a technician and he repaired it. But within 10 days of him fixing it, it went back out again.
When I called them back, they said, “You have to pay another service fee for him to come back out because it was past 30 days." I paid an additional service fee. He said, “What we did to it last time didn't work. We gotta do something different.” I said, “If what you did last time that I paid the service fee for didn't work, why am I still paying service fees?”
I called American Home Shield. Talked to them about upgrading the unit but they wanted me to pay 3,000 dollars. I said, “Why don't we just cancel the American Home Shield warranty?” They sent me a bill. “You owe us a prorated amount for your warranty because you canceled the warranty.” I owed them more money for a service they didn't complete. But I'd never let them mess my credit up. So I paid them their money and I never ever wanted to see American Home Shield again.

They changed the first appointment they gave me to a different time. Then, they attempted to change it again, but I told them I had already adjusted my time twice. So the technician did come out and survey what was wrong with it, and ordered the part. The next week, a different technician came out and repaired it. So, it was okay. I was satisfied with that claim. But I had a second problem to pop up two weeks ago, and I was not satisfied with American Home Shield because I've been getting the runaround. So I went onto the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint there because I couldn't get any leeway with American Home Shield. I do my claims to American Home Shield online. I love it online. I had a stoppage in my bathtub and they sent Prime Cast. They gave me a bad diagnosis, and we had to get a company to come out and just unstop the tub. Prime Cast was saying, “Oh, we're gonna have to bust open your wall. We’re gonna have to remove the drum trap and put in a P-trap.” I said, “My tub is stopped up. There's something stopping the water from flowing in the tub.” They said they were gonna have to bust the wall open and it was gonna cost $3,000.
I called American Home Shield and asked them to get me another plumber. Anywhere Plumbing came out. They knew what was wrong. In 10 minutes, they had unclogged the drain in the tub, and my tub has been working fine ever since. Overall, the customer service with AHS is always great. They're always helpful. Our initial electrical issue was that the AC breaker was tripping. We had AHS transfer the services from our AC person to Sunbelt Electric because they thought I couldn't do anything with the electrical box. They came out and they replaced three breakers, and then they tested it to see if his replacing the breaker fixed it but it didn't because it was the actual AC unit. Their services were fabulous because he came out, replaced some stuff that he saw needed to be replaced, and he did everything that he could to try to figure it out. He determined that it was the AC that was actually doing it because everything else was off except for the AC and it kept tripping.
However, I've had really good people who have done stuff but those people weren't doing their job. They were supposed to be submitting stuff and I've talked to them, but then they didn't. Two days later, I was calling and calling and it was not done. There was a lot of miscommunication with their staff and not knowing what was going on. After I got Sunbelt Electric and they've already submitted their stuff saying that it had to go back to the AC people, AHS then re-sent it to Sunbelt for them to come out. I said, "Are you not looking at our stuff that they said that they've completed everything and it needs to go back to the AC people? Are you not reading whatever's on your computers? It shows that." That now put us back another day or so for them to change it, process it, send it back to the AC people, then for them to come out.

They offered a checkup on my air conditioning units. I had two units and one of them wasn't running at all. That was what they told me. So that meant I had to make another $133 call to get them repaired. That was kind of expensive. I wish I had just called for repair on the air conditioner. That would have been a one-time thing rather than two different calls. Also, I'm really displeased with the claim I had when my refrigerator had a leak. The refrigerator and the water line did so much damage until they had to pull up all my floors. So I haven't really used it in a couple of weeks or so.

The last representative that helped me was amazing. The guy before that was a **. He ended up not helping me and not caring that I was out of AC from Sunday at 2:30 till Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in a house in Arizona. That’s not too awfully great. I couldn't go to work. I had to stay home, so I lost money that way. He put me on hold for a while, got back to me then ended up hanging up on me. He never even told me that he was putting me on hold. He's a horrible person to have work for the company and he's a manager.
The other thing that upsets me is I called numerous times to get ahold of American Home Shield to get somebody to fix my AC, but I didn't get return phone calls. I ended up having to keep calling in. That's not very good on a company not return phone calls and me having to call in. The very last person that helped me was a return phone call. Horrible customer service and a complete lack of transparency! I have an AC issue that I have been trying to resolve for more than a month. The first assigned contractor did not contact me and I was unable to reach them over the course of two weeks. After complaining to AHS on 4 different occasions, a new contractor was finally assigned. The 2nd contractor was more responsive and after looking at my AC, determined that my evaporator coil needed to be replaced. This was the same diagnosis that I received from a local company that had visited my house before I remembered that I should have submitted the claim through AHS.
The evaporator coil was covered under the manufacturer warranty and both of the onsite contractors agreed that the home warranty should cover it. Of course, AHS determined that I would need to pay over $1000 in non-covered costs. The only explanation given, "Replace Evaporator Coil, Reason Not Covered - Normal wear & tear." I found the explanation odd because normal wear and tear is specifically listed as what is covered on the contract. I was then told to talk to contractor who gave me the cost information for 3 parts and the refrigerant. I understand the charge for refrigerant, but the parts should have been covered.
Oddly enough, the initial estimate I got not using AHS was less than the estimate I was given by my home warranty company. When asked for total estimate and a detailed explanation of what was going to be done, the contractor told me that they were only allowed to tell me non-covered costs due to an arrangement with AHS. When I asked for the details from AHS, they told me that I needed to talk to contractor. Aside from me wanting to know what specifically was being done to my house, the information is necessary to ensure future coverage from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, I don't know who to believe and I refuse to pay them anything until a detailed explanation of the work to be performed is offered.

I am very agree with most of the reviewers who have given one star to this company. I will give 0.5 star to this one. Many reasons: they just want to take money and will always run away from the problem. I am struggling with ac problem, and several times they sent technician to repair, every time I end up giving several hundred dollars for refrigerant cost, apart from their one time service fee. But they never addressed the problem. I end up paying approximately ~ 1000 dollars for this but none of technician solved the issue. This time once again I paid their one time service call fee and this company has given me a "quote" of 810 dollars for excess refrigerant cost with a reasoning not covered is "normal wear and tear". Who is responsible? Why not they solved the problem in first time? Why they have taken money from me without solving the problem? If they never addressed the problem, why they are asking money again.
How difficult to deal with such type of company, where you are paying several hundred dollars for the contract, service fee and top of that, they will never take responsibility to fix thing. This is one example, another one is also equally interesting. There was a problem in my furnace, they came and try to fix that and one of the technician made problem worst. A Technician concluded that parts of that furnace are not available and it is not repairable. In that situation, the warranty company needs to change the furnace. However, they asked me to pay 1800 USD. On the 8th of December, 2021, the technician replaced my furnace and I paid that amount to him. I monitored that furnace approximately a week or so in order to evaluate if that is working or not. It was not effective mainly because the capacity of this furnace is 56,000 BTU whereas the earlier furnace was 100,000 BTU.
I immediately sent a message to that technician as well as called warranty company regarding that issue. However, there was no action from their side. I tried to call them repeatedly but unfortunately, no response. It has been several months since I am fighting for this issue but guys no response. It is something like you want to repair your car, and warranty company will give a bicycle for replacement. So good luck to you, if you want to go for this company.

So far, whatever issues I've had, AHS has tried to work on it in a timely manner. Except the last time, when I had a refrigerator issue, I had to wait a while. I asked if I could find someone else to fix it and get reimbursed. But they said no, that it has to be on their contractor list. So, that was something I was a little bit disappointed. Because I asked if my food went bad, if they would at least reimburse me for the food. The rep said they couldn't. But besides those two issues, everything else is fine.
The contractor sent was good and professional. They got the job done and left the space clean when they were done. I like the coverage that I'm getting. And for the price that I'm paying, it's worth it.

Recently, the hot water heater went out. The bottom had corroded, and so that's why water was going everywhere. The tech replaced the whole water heater and made modifications. Our air wasn't working. The outside unit wasn't turning on. It wasn't blowing cold air at the power that it normally was. I submitted an online claim. It was easy. I received the name of the company. And the day they were supposed to show up, I got the name of the actual person that was coming out along with a picture emailed to me of the worker. He looked at the unit, came up with a solution, did it, and the air started working again. It was quick. The last time, he had to just redo some wiring. It had arced out and one of the wires burned up. He cut the wire, put the new connector on and it was fine. It's hot outside and the unit is keeping it between 72 and 74 in the house.
I've worked with a couple of people and referred them to American Home Shield who ended up getting coverage through them. But with my most recent experience in the past seven months, I wouldn't refer them to anyone. The air conditioning broke three times this year. I'm trying to get it replaced, but American Home Shield wouldn't do it. Also, the fine print of one of the services we had done, they had to refill our coolant and air conditioning. It says that it's under AHS coverage, but in turn, ours was not for whatever reason.
They covered the parts, but they didn't cover any of the coolant that would actually run the air conditioning. Even on their website, it says the coolant is covered. You might have to pay $10 per pound, which would have come out to 120 bucks for us. But instead, we got hit with a full bill. For whatever reason, they came up with fine print saying that we had to pay for it, and it was a hassle. So even with our coverage and having AHS, we still had to pay $1,700 out of pocket to get our air conditioning fixed. And the coolant that they had to put in didn't exist anymore. So, they had to put a different, extremely expensive coolant in. We needed air. It was hot. We had no choice but to pay it.

Recently, my garbage disposal wouldn't turn on. The rep said, “Make sure you press the button and make sure that it just hadn’t switched off because of a power surge or something.” I didn't know that so I pressed the button and when I switched it on, it made a humming sound. When the tech came, I thought it was gonna have to be replaced because it wouldn't work. He said that it was just because there was something stuck in it and that he got it unstuck and that the disposal worked.
The reps are always very nice. They tell you who the contractor is and they give me a phone number if I need to get in touch with them. The contractor called me and told me that they would be there at a certain time. It all went very smoothly. AHS has always done a good job.

worked with me and got it all taken care of for me. If I had an issue with something, they helped resolve it. I've had a slab leak that they helped out on. When I first moved to my house, I had a double oven electrical range and one of my eyes kept burning up and catching on fire. They cashed out it so I ended up converting my next range to gas. They fixed my washer and dryer, and my dishwasher. Even a plumbing problem.
When I first got my house, I used to use a certain kind of tissue. The young lady said, "I'm not trying to be funny about anything, but the tissue you're using, it's causing your pipes to clog up. And they don't flush very well." The man in the backyard behind me has a big old tree and it bust my line in the ground. The home warranty company couldn't fix it because it's not on my foundation. But they gave me the advice to change the toilet tissue. So, I did.
AHS first called to send another company out that came out. The young man told me that everything dealing with my hot water tank had to be replaced. He started naming off all this stuff that needed to be taken care of. So I asked, "If I'm not mistaken, all this stuff has been taken care of. Why do I have to replace it again?" "The laws have changed so we need to replace it." He was there less than two minutes and left. So, I called the home warranty back and said, "I need a second opinion because this young man just told me all the stuff need to be replaced." I have a friend that's a plumber. He came by and looked at it. He said, "No. This stuff don't need to be replaced. Everything is fine." So, AHS sent Legacy 4 out. And the man came out. He looked at everything and said, "We can get this taken care of. You might be out of pocket a bit, but we don't know yet until we talk to the home warranty company."
Once they did, they called me back and said, "Okay. This is what it's gonna cost you. When do you want to get this set up and get it scheduled?" I got it taken care of within a week. A bit after a week and three days, they had it all taken care of. Because I paid my service fee on the first guy. I told them, "I want a second opinion, but I'm not paying for it because it's not fair, talking about replacing everything, talking about $1,300, $1,500 replacing my hot water tank when I got everything done." They said, "Well, don't worry about the service fee. We're gonna send somebody else out and let them tell us the difference." They did and they took care of it. It took them an hour and 15 minutes to put it all in. And I didn't have to pay the service fee.

My air conditioner stopped cooling in my home. The unit up in the attic kicked on, then a fan blew hot air and the outdoor unit didn't turn on. I submitted a claim on my computer, and when I put in the request, it just said which appliance, or what was the problem in the home. It was easy to figure out, and I just had to have my contract number. The AC company then called and made an appointment. They were very professional and good. They came in, asked what the problem was, went out, figured things out in five minutes, put a new capacitor in, and it worked. The new capacitor makes my unit turn on and put cool air out.
It took three days for someone to come out, but it was over a weekend, so American Home Shield met their service-level agreement of two business days. I hated that it took that long, but it’s the summer and when air conditioning units break, they usually came right out. Still, American Home Shield gets the job done. It's nice, and they stand by their work and make sure things get fixed. I don't have to worry about getting screwed by an appliance repair person. Because I don't know who to trust. Also, American Home Shield is expensive, but how much you spend per month balances out with the repairs, making it worthwhile over time. One year, there may be very little repairs then another year, maybe they have to come out many times.

I had a company come out and do the annual summer air conditioner check and it appeared that they wanted to sell me almost $5,000 worth of stuff. I felt like they were upselling. I wanted a second opinion so I called American Home Shield back. They sent someone else out. The guy from Cool Factory came out and said, "I checked everything and I can't see what they're talking about. Could be they were talking about it because it was the age of your system. But there's nothing wrong." I was real happy with Cool Factory. They did a good job. I felt he was honest with me on what was going on and I was okay. He did what he was supposed to do. I was very happy with AHS. The day I called, I got an appointment right away.

The people that American Home Shield send out are knowledgeable. The last thing I used them for was my dryer. It was the motor and the tech had one right on the truck, so he could fix it right then. Nowadays, sometimes parts are not available or back ordered, but it was nice that they were able to have that. But when a contractor tried to fix my air conditioning, they put the wrong thing in and it only worked for a little while, and it went out again. That was three trips and I finally told the guy that it wasn't good for me and it's certainly not good for their company because they already got paid and they're not getting any more money and they're sending people out. So hopefully, they remedied that situation.
Every time I called American Home Shield, it was satisfactory and I like that you just pay one fee and you get things fixed. But it usually takes 7 to 14 days to get somebody there. It was an inconvenience, especially when my air conditioner wasn't working. Fortunately, we had one of those portable air conditioners and we used that while waiting for the tech to come to the house. If you're at home and something happens and you look online and call a local repair guy, usually they can get out there within a day or so. The last time, it was four days, which was the least amount of time I've ever had to wait. If it's just small things, I don't mind. Also, when AHS couldn't fix something, they just replaced it and I had no problems in that category at all. I recommend AHS to my friends. It's easy to set things up online for someone to come. It’s just the time frame that you have to wait. But everything else works very well.

Recently, Plumbers Inc. came out to fix my toilet. It was leaking. The first time the tech came out, he thought he had fixed it but as soon as he left, the floor was completely soaked. I called him back and they were trying to charge me a second time. I complained because it wasn't fixed the first time and they came back out the very next day and fixed the problem.

I've had AHS for over 20 years. I've had them with multiple houses at a time. I'm just really thinking hard if I'm going to even renew in a couple of months. They hardly cover anything anymore. It's like everything they have fixed, it's excluded. Then I saw they just came out with a new line of coverages. I haven't read through it yet. But it's less than before. When you call, you can't understand who you're talking to. It’s a conversation that should take 10 but sometimes takes 30 because I'm asking people to say it again. They don't listen to anything outside of what they're saying. No matter what you say, what your situation is, they keep saying the same thing over and over because that's what's in their book or on their computer screen. They do not know how to deal with customers outside of the basic question.
I've used them multiple times. There was one thing they covered. Everything else, I've used either their contractor and gone ahead and just to get it done or I sent away that person, wasted my $75 payment and I've called somebody on my own. Because if I'm going to pay for it myself, I'm going to use somebody I know a lot of times. The only reason I called AHS was to get it done cheaper. But they're not going to cover it. If they can improve, I wouldn't even hesitate in keeping them. But as of right now, they suck. They're awful to deal with. The only thing that's handy is you can book a service request on their website.
They assigned me somebody last time and the person came out for a water heater. I was supposed to make a decision on whether to upgrade to a bigger tank or keep it smaller. But all of a sudden, I got a text and it said that the water heater was on its way. I had decided to do an upgrade. I could not get ahold of this company. I tried for five days, kept going to their voicemail. Called AHS and let them know. Kept reading the same thing.
Then they said, "Let me try to get ahold of them." I sat on hold for 15 minutes with AHS, because you don't want to hang up on them and you got to wait on hold for another half an hour to an hour to get to a human. He came back and said, "I can't get ahold of them. It just goes to a voicemail." I said, "Oh, surprise." He said, "I suggest you just keep calling them. If you don't get ahold of them for 48 more hours, then I can file a complaint and we can try to get you to reassign somebody else." At that point, I said, "Give me the cash in lieu offer. I'll put it towards somebody that I know I can call and will show up." That company also never called to touch base and say, "Let's reschedule to have the water heater put in."

The only thing I don't like with AHS is it's difficult getting ahold of a human when you have a problem. I'm forced to do the online reporting but it's just as complicated. Sometimes, the choices do not apply and I feel like the problem is not being described properly. It would be so much easier to have a human to speak with. This past time, I did get a human and they did a video chat of the problem. That helped on my end but when the repairman came out, he didn't act like it helped him at all. I've had AHS for years in one house. For the most part, they're good. Their submission process is fine 'cause you can do it however you want, if you want to do it online or if you want to make a phone call. However, COVID was a struggle if you needed them and you needed parts. But that's not their fault. The most recent use of them was at my new property with the air conditioning. I realized that everybody was super busy. But my mom was in that house, 85 years old and over a 100-degree temperature. The reaction time wasn't fast enough for me. She had to stay at my house. These contractors in our area need to leave time available for emergency calls. But that, again, is not American Home Shield. It's the contractors that they're dealing with. Also, I've used AHS when our well went out once and they didn't cover the entire cost, but a nice portion of it.

I have a Jandy filtration system and the bypass valve was leaking and with the water concern here in California, I figured I need to get it fixed. I know American Home Shield covers that. So, I sent them an email. I did the claim online. The website was fine and I had a very quick response. The tech was friendly enough. He obviously wanted to try to correct the situation as quickly as possible and move on to his next client. Instead of either rebuilding the valve or replacing the valve, he put a check valve on the drain tube to keep it from dripping. I was like, "Isn't there a rebuild kit for this valve?" He said, "No. Because the only thing you can do is replace it and I don't have any of those and it'd take a month or two to get one. But I can do this." I said, "That's fine. Let's just do something so we don't have it dripping water all day."
I would have pushed the contractor a little bit harder because he just wanted to come in, do his thing, and leave. The part he put on there is probably a $10 part. He was there for about 40 minutes tops. If he's gonna charge like $500, it's a rip-off, but he did reseal another little leak from my chlorinator. As far as American Home Shield, they were very quick to respond and to assign somebody, so I'm very happy with that. I was very satisfied with the expedience of the experience. The issue was handled very quickly.

The service is difficult sometimes. Communication can be improved and if I call about a claim, it takes them a few days before they get back in contact with me. Like with my air conditioner, I had to keep calling back and they said, Well, we can't find anybody.” I said, “If I find somebody, what do I need to do?” They then said, “Well, that's not on the policy.” The contractor was quick but all the tech did was bypass something and run a jumper wire. He didn't put any new parts. So the problem was never fixed.
AHS should care about their clients. They really showed no sympathy when I told them I got my daughter out here and it was hot out here. It made me mad. It was like there was no concern about that.

He read some basic things like the instructions that are printed on the side of the unit and figured out there were missing parts. He fixed it. He had to come back a second time. He worked on the lines and then it filled with water. It had the same issue again. But he really does continue to think about the customer problem instead of trying to make some money. I have found him to be the most methodical and overall best service that I've had out of the local HVAC suppliers.

I've not had a good experience with American Home Shield. I have the highest plan and at the point I make a request for someone to check my appliance, it creates a situation where I find myself working for American Home Shield. I have to call them three times every day for at least a week before I can get service. It's ridiculous. Also, they only use certain contractors and the ones they use are horrible. The three that have come for air conditioning were horrible. I let Home Shield know that I called to try to schedule what day they could come out but the mailbox was full on the answering machine and they don't call back. It's just a waiting game. American Home Shield can't ahold of them.
It's in the middle of summer and I'm dealing with AHS's contractors. AHS is telling me I need to call them. Then, when the contractor comes out, they do half a job of diagnosing my thing and whatever they put on the paper is golden even though the tech didn't do half the things he said. With the air conditioner, the immediate go-to of the contractor is to put refrigerant in the system. They don't care what's going on. The only reason they do that is because I have the platinum plan and refrigerant is unlimited.
They charge American Home Shield for that and then from there it's, "You should be good and running. It should be catching up to thermostat." That doesn't happen and I have to call AHS again to get them to come back out. By then, you've already left a bad review with American Home Shield because you're sitting here in 90-degree weather with no air conditioner for a week or two until they can come back out and squeeze you in their schedule. I even had a contractor tell me he doesn't work for American Home Shield and they don't pay him a lot of money. So, his other customers take priority over AHS.
A tech came back a second time and that's when he told the people at American Home Shield that my warranty doesn't cover whatever is wrong with my system. And I'm saying to him, I'm like, "That's not your judgment call. You don't work for American Home Shield. Your job is to diagnose it, and then fix it or report to American Home Shield what you found." I left a bad review for him and to get back at me, he told AHS my issue is pre-existing and there's nothing they can do. AHS took that and ran with it.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

I've had the contractor Rush’s Repair Service at the house twice now. Their tech was very professional and helpful. I also had another contractor that specializes in appliances. Their tech was really good too. The contractor that came out recently for my microwave was excellent and I told him that if I had any more issues or breakage that pertain to the appliances, I would definitely ask AHS to assign him if possible.
The thing however was for the microwave that we just had done, it was almost a week before we could get someone out. Someone said, “We need to cancel this contractor because we can't get in touch with him. And we’ll reassign you to somebody else.” They reassigned me to Lowe's. I contact Lowe’s and they said, “I'm not sure why AHS keep telling customers to call us for an appointment. They're supposed to do that.” The customer now has to contact AHS back. The lady then said they were gonna assign me to somebody else. I have two kids and it makes a big difference when you don't have a microwave. Last time we got it fixed, I cooked almost every day throughout the week. A microwave comes in handy for little things where I was using the skillet for something very simple. That was very frustrating and I even threatened to leave AHS.
I've not been quite pleased 100% with AHS specifically. We had a technician to come out to the house on Friday and I had paid the $75. He did no work. He was going on vacation and he would be back on a set date. But he didn't show up on that set date and instead came back the day after. In that timeframe, we had extreme damage. Over the course of a few days, my property manager and I were calling the technician and he wasn't answering. I finally got in touch with him and he had me on speaker because I was asking him questions and his rude wife or girlfriend was answering the questions. I just stopped dealing with them and was dealing with AHS. But AHS told me there was nothing that they could do regarding the damage. I basically had to go after this contractor.
I was told that was written in the contract. But that was not the first time that that has happened where a contractor came to the house, got paid, acknowledged the problem, and didn't come out when they said that they were coming back. That created a more expensive problem for me. The fact is I'm paying AHS every single month to know that they can send people out. If anything falls short, then AHS is no longer now responsible. I am basically so low trying to figure this out. That has been quite disappointing. The reps told me different ones that had gone up cases to do a dispute board. I called and was told, “There's no dispute. You have to handle that on your own.”
We're a military family and we relocated after a while from our home in Sumter, South Carolina. We hired a property manager who's looking at one property while we were overseas. That's why we got AHS. It's to make sure that we had something in place while we're out of the country. We're now back in South Carolina but we're stationed in Charleston. I contacted AHS and I was told, “If you bring your new home to AHS, so you have two homes insured with us, you'll get a better discount." They asked for a document that show that we were military. The veteran discount was totally not true. I called and asked where I should send the document and no one knew what I was talking about. Also, we didn't get a discount based on combining both homes.

American Home Shield had a recommendation for spring tune-ups on the air conditioners and essentially said, "Hey, no cost to you. Blah, blah, blah." So, I took them up on it. Air conditioner was running fine. The contractor came out. He said it was fine and walked away. My wife came home about three hours later. The house was about 81 degrees. I called up the person himself, and he said, "Hey, all I know is when I walked away, it was done. It was working." I called the home office of that contractor and said, "Hey, something's not right here." They said, "Well, you have to put a job req in for us to come back out." I was like, "Well, you guys never finished the job. It's broken now."
I put in a job requirement through American Home Shield, and they gave me a different contractor who came out the next day. He said, "My God. Whoever worked on this thing killed it." I was like, "What do you mean?" He was like, "Well, somehow they broke the evaporation board. And when they washed it all out, the inside and everything, washed it all out, they fried the whole system. Because that board is supposed to be underneath and it's not supposed to get wet, but they wet the whole board. And in addition, they broke your hose with the Freon in it and you have no Freon inside." I was like, "Oh, my God. Okay. So that's what that oil is."
I got an email last Monday that said that, "The parts are in. Call your contractor to set up the appointment." I did. They were like, "Great. Let's do Friday." I said, "Fantastic. I'll be back from work." They said between 1:00 and 4:00. I had missed a call from them, but I tried to call back multiple times, but they were super busy. By about 4:30, I called up and they said, "Hey, Mr. **, your stuff never showed up." I was like, "Well, we got the email to set this thing up and everything had been delivered." I called up American Home Shield and they were like, "Well, there's nothing we can do. It was supposed to be delivered on Thursday." I was like, "This is ridiculous. We had a consistent problem with my wife's convection oven. The repairman said, “You need to get a new oven.” American Home Shield said, “Okay, we're gonna give you $1,596 for a new convection oven.” I laughed and said, “Yeah, the cheapest one that they sell is three grand.” I bought my wife a new convection oven and emailed AHS a copy of the receipt. But I never got the check. It's been over a year now and I still haven't been reimbursed. If that doesn't get solved, there are a hundred warranty companies out there and I'll just find a different one. American Home Shield should send my check and then I’ll be happy and I’ll renew with them. The warranty automatically renews and if I caught it ahead of time, I would have canceled and gone with another company.

We had some toilets that were leaking in our brand-new house. The gentleman came out, looked at the toilet, and said there was nothing wrong with it. It sounded like he was being professional and knew what he was talking about. He took me underneath in the basement to show me that there was no water leaking there. But a few days later, there was still a little bit of water leaking in the toilet. So I decided to call a different plumber and he informed us that all three toilets in the house were the original toilets. So they were 15 years old and all the seals were cracking and that it was going to become a big problem. So he suggested that we replace them and we did.

Right Tech came out for our AC last Wednesday. The first company came out two weeks before that, and the tech said that there was a leak in one of the coils. So, they said they weld it and it was fixed. It worked for like five days and then it stopped working. So, we called American Home Shield back and then they sent the same company out. The guy was up there for like five minutes and he said, "Oh, it's no good. It's got another leak." He said it was in another spot. When they went up there, there was a bunch of loose stuff that they left in the back of the unit. So, another company came out and he went up there and looked again and said, "Oh, yeah. Whatever it is, it's no good.” He turned on the air and he said that it was still leaking and it doesn't make sense to load it if it’s just gonna keep leaking the air out.

The AC was not cooling well and the first person who visited just looked at the AC, didn't do much, and left. The next day, the cooling was not great in the same way. Then after that, the second person who visited made sure things were all done appropriately. Having AHS gives me a bit of peace of mind but I want them to improve their response time. Each time, specifically, in summer, if you're raising a request for cooling, waiting for three or four days at times becomes difficult if the AC is not working at all. So, it would be nice if they can have more contractors during the summer helping them out with the HVAC. That way, they have enough people to service because most of them are backlogged.

So far, I'm pretty satisfied with American Home Shield's service. When things break down, I don't have to go out and get in debt or purchase other products myself. Buckley came out today to install the Whirlpool electric stovetop. The owner and another guy that worked with him came out. I told my husband to go and meet them. Everything was measured out, but they couldn't fit it in the hole. It was an inch off. The man from Buckley called and told me that the hole was too small for the electric top to fit in. He said, "There's a man here, and the man said that he could enlarge the hole." So, I said, “Well, that’s my husband. Let me talk to him.” I called my husband and I told him, "I just talked from the guy at Buckley’s. He's inside the house and he said that the hole is too small. Can you enlarge it?” He said, “Yes, I can.”
I was under the impression that once my husband enlarged the hole, Buckley was gonna install the electric stove. An hour passed. I hadn't heard anything so I called my husband and asked if the stove was in. He said they left after they talked to me on the phone. He said they made sure that the electrical part was done, but they didn’t stay to put the stove in. My husband was upset about it, too.

I love American Home Shield’s service. Anytime I have an issue, somebody is usually there the next day. I had an issue with my air conditioner over the weekend, and somebody came. He said it was the coils that were broken and it was going to be a certain amount of money. He said, “They should cover it.” Afterward, I got a bill that I have to pay $2,900 for some other stuff. They wouldn't tell me what it was for. I called American Home Shield, and they were covering the coil and the installation cost. I don't know what this other $2,900 was for. So, I called up the person and said, “I don’t want you to do it. I’m gonna get my own repair person to do it.”
Right now, I think AHS is gonna give me a cashout for the part and the installation so I can pay my regular air conditioner guy. I also had a little bit of an issue with my dishwasher. The techs had to come out six times, but ultimately, the last person fixed it. So, things like that happened, but that wasn’t anybody's fault. American Home Shield was paying for it.

I've been with American Home Shield quite a while and they're fair. Sometimes you gotta nudge them to be fair, and whenever they have to replace an appliance, they do it, but they try and replace it with quite a bit less. If you stand your ground, you'll get a replacement. The only time I ever had a problem with them, my mother died and I had an oven that went out and I didn't keep up with it. It went a little longer than it was supposed to. Now, they say I gotta pay my service charge again.
American Home Shield isn't perfect, but they're pretty good and I'm happy with them. Having it smooths out my bills. At least I know what I'm going to pay this year. Recently, their repair people put a new housing on my pool pump and they needed parts for that. They can't replace the whole pump with another pump, but you can get together and fix the one you have. I thought I was looking at a replacement pump for 1,700 bucks, but it wasn't the motor. Now, my pump runs perfect. I had another pump sitting there that wasn't quite running right and they fixed that too and didn't charge me for it.

American Home Shield has been very beneficial the last few months. It is well worth the money. We're in a house that is 15 years old and different things are starting to go out. Recently, our icemaker wasn't making ice. A contractor came out and put in what they said was a new icemaker. It didn't work so they came back. When I called they were kind ‘cause they said that because it was over 30 days, it had to be a new service call, but the guy just said never mind ‘cause it was only two or three days after the 30 days. That same company came back, put in what they said was another new icemaker. It still didn't make ice. We called them and told them it wasn't. We never heard from them. But American Home Shield went ahead and got a different company to come out. They took care of it. They said it was not a new icemaker. It was refurbished. But the guy got it to working so we're all good to go again.
We also just had to have our garage door spring replaced. One broke. That was where I was a little disappointed. When the company came out to fix it, the repairman said the other spring wasn't broke. It was working. But he said it was extremely weak and it would probably break then. The warranty didn't cover that. We had to pay for that one out of pocket.

The first claim that I had was for my water heater, which the contractor fixed. They did a great job. But I'm still having problems with the claim for my air conditioner. They're waiting on a part and they said my ETA is supposed to be within the 28th. So I've been either staying at a friend's, renting, staying at my boyfriend's, or staying at my parents'. When I call the contractor, it goes to a voicemail that says, "It's not set up. You have to do like an SMS message." So I would attach my phone number hoping that they would call but they wouldn't.
The contractor said they were going to come out one day. I had somebody go out there and wait at my house for them that morning. But they never did. They never called me to say, "Hey, things changed. We couldn't make it." I tried calling about four times that day but never got an answer or reply. I tried multiple times the next three days and nothing. They told me that my whole system needed to be replaced because the parts that American Home Shield approved me for were outside stuff and then with the coil for inside, they're not going to be compatible. So they want to call the American Home Shield. I don't know what's going to happen with my AC. I'm hoping the part that they did can fix it because I can't rent any more rooms. I'm financially done. With what I would have rented this room for, I could have just got a plumber to go out there and either repair it or replace it myself.

And they put up with me because I called several times since I was concerned about the weekend and I had people arriving on Monday. But they assured me that somebody would call me. On Monday morning, I did get a call and the techs said they'd be right out that afternoon. They were right on time and they took care of it. It turned out that the problem had to do with the condensation lines. The people I spoke to were just great and they followed through. I would recommend them highly.
Other than that, the 24 to 48 hours is a problem. The people I talked to were very congenial when they told me that but it would be helpful if there was an emergency number where somebody would call and satisfy the people to say that they can't be out until Monday. I've also submitted a claim about three years ago where I didn't have a plumber out here that was on their list. So, I had to bring a local man in. He corrected it and only charged me $57. I submitted a claim for that and I never got it. But I’ve been very pleased with AHS for the most part and I've not been disappointed with them. I'm in a rural area so it makes it tough and sometimes I don't get the service as fast as I would like or the right person coming out. But it does happen and I understand that. There was a day turnaround before they were able to get out there, which was absolutely amazing. I requested that contractor who was going to be showing up at the house either contact myself or my property management company to make sure that there would be appropriate representatives there in case there was anything that they needed to access and they did just that. American Home Shield has been very good to get things fixed, and usually in a short time period. Our problem is at Samsung, which is an absolute joke. Unfortunately, we've had their refrigerator for 13 years, and it has been bad during those years. And Sears wouldn't take it back. So, we're waiting on the third motherboard, which is what runs the refrigerator to be done, because Samsung couldn't figure out how to rebuild it. So, we've got a nice company that has been dealing with this refrigerator with us and they have been very good. But the tech is frustrated as he could be. He couldn't do anything but send it to Samsung.
It has been a while. We’ve been back and forth with getting the parts. And when the contractor brought the first one, that didn't work. Thank God the tech didn't throw away the old part. He brought it back and put it back into the system. And they brought out another part. I waited until Monday, but it didn’t work either. We knew once he opened it up and looked into it, it wouldn't work. So, he sent that back. We haven't heard anything from him. But Samsung wouldn't do anything to expedite getting the stuff to him.
Other than that, I would recommend AHS to anybody who has an older house. It's a lot better way to go. You got somebody that you can recognize the name. And you can also have somebody you call for repairs that is honest and trustworthy. And that's the biggest thing, especially for older people, so you worry a bit more about what you're getting into. It's a good product to have. It’s a little costly, but in the long run, if you've got something that breaks down, you can get some answers within 48 hours.

So, I had to cancel that. I went down to Lowe's and bought a top loader washing machine, 733 bucks. My relatives from Norway were there for nine days and I couldn't have them have to go to the laundromat every day so, I came out on the short end of the stick on that. For the last 14 days I have been without AC because of AHS incompetence. They did not order the part when it was requested, once it was finally ordered I asked to have it expedited and was assured they would send next day--this was a lie, so the part was delivered to the AC company on Monday the 18th (originally reported problem on July 7th) and then you sent the wrong part.
In talking to customer service after the wrong part was delivered, I was offered a refund on my service call of $75, this is insulting considering the fans and portable AC's I have had to buy to make my house even somewhat livable--it is a steady 85 degrees in my house on a good day. I mentioned to the manager I was talking to that I have been paying them for three years for this warranty and have not come close to getting my money back. I also asked for help paying for the cost of the freon needed to fix the AC. I said that it was a good faith gesture for a long-term client. Only to be told they can't do that. I ended the call indicated I have already reported them to the Better Business Bureau and will be posting a public message on social media to enlighten all those who read to beware.

On the whole, I was out of a refrigerator for over a month. It was just waiting on someone to come and fix it, waiting on a part to come in, waiting on them to determine that they couldn't fix it, and then just ordering a part.
The only issue I had was when I put in a claim to get my air conditioner serviced prior to summer. Techs came out, looked at it, and they said everything was okay. But American Home Shield keeps telling me that they're waiting on the electrician to send the report. I'm thinking if the electrician has not sent the report in all this time, more than likely, she's not gonna send it. She was good, but it seems she's really slow with following up.
I'm back and forth with American Home Shield. Every time I've called about my issues, they called the electrician. She's answered a couple of times and promised to send the report. But then American Home Shield doesn't get it. I'm so frustrated. If one company is not doing something, American Home Shield should send somebody else out. But they keep saying they've got to send the same person. If that person is not doing their job, they should move on.

But for the plumbing piece, I've had two instances where I've had people come out. The first was in March or April when I had someone come and repair my boiler. That was a very good service too.
I had separate warranties on appliances and I always went with Sears. They were always very good with servicing any appliance that I had. I had a dishwasher and they came out and fixed it eight times. Finally, I ended up with a new one. It's advantageous to the homeowner to have something that they can fall back on. You don't wanna be caught in the dead of winter with a boiler that's not working. You don't wanna be caught in a situation where your water heater goes and you have to fix it today. Having this home warranty available is very helpful.

The condenser and compressor locked up in one of AC units. I called in an emergency claim and AHS couldn't get somebody out 'til Monday. On Monday, the technician came and all he did was wash the coil. He said the compressor was no good and that it needed to be replaced. He said that should be covered by American Home Shield. But AHS never notified me. I had to call them on Thursday and they told me that the claim was denied. They said that because the compressor was not functional before my contract date started, they wouldn't cover it. I don't understand that when being in Texas, why would I wait a whole week to call and say my air conditioner broke.
I called and they said, “Okay. You know what? What we'll do is we will send out a second opinion. And if the second opinion is the same, then you have to pay an additional $125 to get it fixed. They sent another technician and he said the compressor is no good because it keeps tripping my breaker. He wrote everything up and the contractor said, "Yeah, it shouldn’t be covered by American Home Shield.” American Home Shield said the same thing to me. We've been without air conditioning for about two weeks yesterday. At this point, I'm just gonna cancel my contract. What am I paying for if they're not going to keep their end of the bargain? I can't keep my kids without air conditioning here in Texas. This is the worst experience I've ever had. To this day, I haven't been called, saying that my claim was denied.

American Home Shield has been good. It gives me the peace of mind that if something goes out, I can get it fixed. I haven't had that many claims, so I don't know if I'm coming out financially ahead or not, but I like to think I am. My last service call was over a washing machine that wasn't responding to the controls. We had a company called A & E come out and they replaced the control panel and said, “Oh, it’s working,” and left. It didn't work and we got the guy to come back. He put one of the old pieces back on, said, “It's working now,” and left. When we tried it again, it still wouldn't work, then my wife tried to call him to get him to come back. This has been going on for over a week. My wife wasn't happy and they weren't happy and said they weren't coming back.
American Home Shield reassigned the job to Sears and we really liked them, but it took them three times to finally get our washing machine fixed. So, we've had a total of five visits for one deal. Sears was really good to deal with, but A & E was not. Also, American Home Shield has been great for us other than sometimes I get some people on the phone that I don't understand very well because of the language barrier. I have to really concentrate to understand what some of them are saying.

We had American Home Shield for 20 years in our old house. We just moved into this new house and got a new policy. We continued with the home warranty because we've got our money's worth out of it. We had a couple of appliances worked on. The washing machine had a torn liner and the door was leaking. As for the dishwasher, the hinges were broken. The repair was slow and it took over a month to get it done because of the waiting for parts to come in. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I like that anytime I filed a claim to American Home Shield, they got right on it but they have not fixed my hot water tank and they're not getting any more of my money. The techs came out originally for a blockage, which was covered. They opened the blockage but then, I was continuing to have something go on with the same pipe. Come to find out there was a split in my sewer pipe. They had to come back out to look at that and HM did a good job. They fixed it. American Home Shield did not cover any of that though. It was like $2,000 on me.
I first filed my hot water tank claim on October 21st of 2021. They said Rush Plumbing was coming. Nobody showed. So, I resubmitted and on December 21st, Rush Plumbing finally showed up. The tech said his mother passed, which is understandable. He said I needed a new hot water tank. He took down all the information and said he'd be back in a week. I've still not seen him again. I had text messages from him admitting that he never came back. At one point, I got AHS to change to a different plumber, and then they retracted it because that guy called them and said the thing was complete. It's not been completed.

I’ve got three homes on American Home Shield - a rental property, my in-laws', and my personal home. Everybody they have sent to my personal home has been really good and the ones they've sent out to my tenants have been professional. But when appliances have gone out, it seems like it's never covered. It feels like using American Home Shield is tacking on another $75 to $100 on the cost of replacing the appliance.
Other than that, I had a claim for the garage door at the duplex not too long ago and the tech was a really nice guy. I appreciated it. It turned out to be a really small issue that took them like a minute to fix. He also programmed something for us and he did that without any extra charge. I've recommended American Home Shield to a couple of people that I know that are buying homes that are having consistent issues. The service is good.

The same guy who came out and replaced both of our air handlers and handled other associated repairs did a good job.
The only thing with American Home Shield is that when you have to make a call, you end up being on hold and my beard grows while I’m on hold sometimes. Also, most of the people at their answering center are clearly Indian. So you know you're not talking to somebody next door. But I've only had one person that I talked to that was almost impossible to understand. Then I got her to talk slowly enough that we managed to figure it out. One time, they sent out a contractor that wasn't licensed to do the repair that needed to be done in the state where we needed to have it done. But then the next guy that they sent out took care of it. American Home Shield generally come through on everything that we’ve needed to have fixed. Sometimes it may have taken a little longer, but it’s reasonable.

So I had an argument with the guy on the phone and my wife told me she would deal with it. They made us pay a restocking fee on something that we never really ordered which was wrong.
At the end of the day, I ended up buying my own stove that was a couple hundred dollars over what they allowed and they reimbursed us a part of it. I love American Home Shield. The only problem that I had was they had changed my contract a few times without letting me know. They raise my bill without contacting me first. Also, everything's supposed to be covered even if it's self-damaged and they took that out. Right now, I'm disputing because I have a dishwasher that is not drying and they said that it’s not drying because I spilled something on my drying coil. They're sending out a new person. Also, I had my oven replaced and they found me a replacement for $650 but anything else, I have to pay over for. I told the rep to send me a check. But even when I get it myself, I have to pay to have it installed because they won't do it once they've sent out the check.
But other than that, they paid to have my dishwasher installed when it got replaced. They had one I wanted. Then, when I had my cooktop replaced, they paid for everything. They gave me my choice of which one I wanted and I ordered it. They got delivered and the installer showed up. They installed it and took the old one. So far, American Home Shield has replaced an air conditioner, my cooktop, a refrigerator, and now an oven and a furnace. $75 every time I've had to call is all I've had to pay.
American Home Shield sent out Harland Heating one time and I was so ticked off. The guy walked into my backyard and said he does not service the heat pump. I called up American Home Shield. This was during the 90-degree weather and with the heat going up to 100. But when the AC wasn't cooling, A Plus came out and I loved that company. The gentleman, Jose, check what was wrong. The switch kept tripping the circuit and he went to see if he could find the switch. But American Home Shield only pays for $10 per pound of coolant and coolant is expensive. The guy said he'd see if we can get away without putting any coolant in and he said we didn't need to add any. He was honest and awesome. He stayed here for a while to make sure everything wasn’t gonna trip the breaker again and it was going to cool down.

We have been with American Home Shield for quite a long time, and a lot of times, I do it online if we have a claim. Recently, our air conditioner went out and it was 100 degrees. My husband has health issues, and none of the contractors were going to be available for a week or two. American Home Shield authorized us to use a contractor of our choosing, but we would have to pay for it, then they’d reimburse us. So we did that.
It's been close to a month ago that this has happened, and we've been in touch with American Home Shield. My husband has been the one that has been communicating with them more than myself, and this morning, he finally talked to someone that was very knowledgeable. Supposedly, they're going to reimburse us. Otherwise, we've had wonderful service with American Home Shield. Sometimes though, it's very difficult to understand some of the customer service reps when I call in for questions. Still, having a home warranty saves a lot of money if you have things go wrong. The AC was not working. The contractor came out and checked it out. They said the coil was frozen. So they turned it off, thawed it out, and washed down the thing. They came outside and then, they went and came in and said, "Everything should be okay." They put Freon in and said, "Everything should be okay." But a couple of days later, I found out that the AC was still not working. So we called back and then they sent out the same guys again. They went through the same rigmarole and said that it should be okay. Then they said they called their master technician, so he came out and found that there were some wires that needed to be fixed that were shorting.
When they came a second time, they said, "We can't get it started again." Then they turned off the box, turned it back on, and it started. So they didn't see the wire that was faulty. The master technician looked through everything. He said the pipe from the air conditioner to the bathroom was clogged. So he attempted to clean it out. He also worked on a few things up there to make sure that the thing was running properly. A few days later, we realized that the clog was not draining. So he came back and he said he was going to do a $400 fix, which would be replacing the piping that goes from the air conditioner to the sink. But after a few days, he realized that he had another alternative way he could do it. So he did that. But yesterday, we noticed that there's a leak in the kitchen. This is a new thing. The leak is showing in the ceiling in the kitchen. So I'm thinking that it's still not fixed.

Also, the call center personnel were not good. They were all offshore and very difficult to understand. Every time I said something, they had to repeat it back to me. It was very arduous and not a good experience. They put me on hold an awful lot of times. The whole transaction on the phone took me an hour. The other crazy thing was the guy was trying to get me to do a video diagnostic. Told me, that for $10 more, they could do a video diagnostic and it would be quicker.
They also told me they assigned D & G Appliance and they were available the next day. With this contractor, it was very good. The techs called before to tell me they were on their way and the guy was very good. Came in for his duties and did a good job determining what the problem was. Lately it takes forever to get someone out to the house. Also, some things are covered but some others probably should have been. The pool part that was broken was not covered. That was a little frustrating. A year or two ago, we had the heater go out on our pool. That covered the cost that I was putting out. But the last couple of times, we had a problem with our washing machine. AHS sent someone out three times, but they still haven't replaced the unit. They just kept on sending someone out to fix it. That was frustrating, because it was a month without a washing machine. They wouldn't just pay to replace it, they wanted to fix it.
AHS ended up replacing the main brain on it, that essentially it's a brand-new washer in a non-brand-new washer body. They spent all that money, but wouldn't replace the whole thing. I could have paid a repairman to come out here three different times and get my little $14 part. So, having AHS hasn't been worth it within the last year.

American Home Shield should be more upfront about what you have to pay out of your pocket. They oughtta try to carry a lot of the weight of whatever you need done. I'm paying them $60 a month, and then there are times when I don't need anything. But to me, everything should have been paid for if I need something. American Home Shield did pay for some of the small things. When I had a claim for the garbage disposal, I paid them 100, and then the contractor came and did the rest. But for something major, like the water heater and the air conditioner, I came out of pocket and I was caught off guard. For the air conditioner, they only paid 10 cents per pound of the refrigerant. I paid about 800 and they only paid about 100. The rep said they paid for labor. With the water heater, I ended up paying about 800 for it. They did purchase the water heater, but I paid to have it installed. That was a bit much.

My husband is in the military and has received official DoD orders for us to relocate across country. As such, we are in the process of selling our home. I called AHS to terminate our home warranty, because they do not allow you to terminate service online... The process goes like this: you call, wait on hold, then get transferred around to a few departments, until you finally reach the Cancellation Department. There is apparently only one person who works in this department, he does not have a supervisor, and he has all the power.
After explaining my situation, he asked if I wanted to transfer our service to our new home; I do not want to transfer service because a home warranty is included in the purchase of our new home. He then asked if I wanted to transfer service to the people who are buying our home; Again, a home warranty is included for the people buying our home and they specifically requested a different company. Apparently he was displeased with this, so he told me that I would incur a "cancellation fee". I explained that he cannot charge us a cancellation fee per the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act. He refused to acknowledge this. I asked for his supervisor and he told me that he does not have one.
After realizing that this person is unwilling to work with me, I told him to just cancel my policy and I will contest the charge with my credit card company. He then informed me he will be assessing an additional "administrative fee" against my account. I told him again that I would just contest those charges as well. He then started demanding my authorization for these additional charges against my card on file, or he cannot cancel my policy. By the time I ended our phone call, he still refused to cancel my policy. Immediately after, I called my credit card company and had them block this merchant from initiating charges against my card. Buyer beware!

However, they seem busy. When I talked to one of the customer representatives of AHS, they said that they would call me back after talking to the contractors. I waited for three days, but I never received a call. I called AHS again. The second time I called, AHS opened a ticket. After that, I received a call the next day from the contractor. I wanted to get that visit quickly as soon as possible, but the next available was Wednesday or Thursday. So, we went with Thursday.

The reason that we got American Home Shield is the microwave broke a couple of days after it was out of warranty. It was an $800 part to fix them, which was ridiculous. With AHS, there's peace of mind knowing that if something breaks, it will get fixed. The first time I had them come out was for a leaky dishwasher that was stopping in mid-cycle. Then, we had another person come out for a dishwasher leak and he diagnosed the problem, got the parts, and came back when the parts were in. The other claim we had was the microwave repair and it was fine.

My refrigerator wasn't cooling. I did a claim online and that was easy. It pretty much gives you the options then after you click one option, it gives you more coverage. This online claim option is more convenient. After I made the claim, I started getting emails confirming dates. The contractor called me also to double check on the date. The people that came out were professional. They checked the refrigerator, ordered parts then came back and repaired it. I've been recommending American Home Shield and two of my sister-in-law's friends subscribed.

It's been mostly good with Home Shield. Although sometimes, there's a disconnect between what Home Shield offers and what the vendors' responsibilities are. But they're nothing that hasn't been worked out. It's not smooth sometimes but it's just working it through with the vendor. We were having a lot of problems with our air conditioner and every time I submit a ticket, Home Shield assigns a different company. It would be good to have continuity of business with one vendor. I have to go and contact Home Shield and we have to work it out. Then, I'll get called by the one company that I'm not going to do business with and then have to go back to the other company. It's a loss of time and it doesn't make it a smooth experience.

Some things are fast. Plumbing and littler stuff are easy. But when it comes to having replacement things like mine was, with the cooler and the stove, they don't happen right away. Anything that's a big appliance, I have to wait month to month. Our cooler went out and the contractor came out and looked at it. They said they needed to replace it with a new one because the frame that holds the water was cracking. They went ahead and fixed it. They put it in fine. But it doesn't work as well as the old one does. The cooler is not as strong as my old one. My bedroom is not cold anymore. And we had to wait forever. I could have bought one and put it in four times between the time that I had to wait to get it. The contractor kept saying it was to be delivered by American Home Shield. It was five months. I also had a stove replaced through AHS and I had to wait four months before my stove came. There was a backlog because of all the shipping problems.

We had the tech come out and fix a washing machine and he did it in two visits. On the first visit, he had to look and order a part. But he came back and got it fixed. We have not had an issue with it since then. He was very friendly and professional. When we had a claim for our air conditioning unit, we needed a new unit, but the tech couldn't get authorization for that. He was only able to replace some switch or board and it only held out for about three months. We called him back again and then he did something else. But we decided since we weren't getting it fixed by American Home Shield, we just went ahead and bought a new unit. Overall, we're very happy with American Home Shield. But it would be nice if they gave us an option that we got to pick who we used. Because they just said somebody will be out there. With the washing machine, it was with a company that we really liked. But we weren't so crazy about the air conditioning people.

If my problem is something important, I do not call AHS because it takes too long to get a technician out. I'm making a decision whether to keep them or not. Our pool filter wasn't circulating the water. We didn't have the water flow to the pool and the tech said the issue was that our filter was clogged. He recommended us to buy spray. All of our grandkids are mixed, so they have a lot of hair products. Our filter's small. So, sometimes with the smaller filters on our system, with all the hair products and suntan oils and lotions, it'll clog. So, he recommended us to go to a pool company and buy a spray to protect the cotton. But we still have the same issue. My husband ordered a new filter because we were thinking, "Well, maybe we just need to buy a new filter and start fresh." But we did buy the solution and soak it. It works good for a couple of days, and then you can tell the pressure slows. We've been satisfied with the service we received.

Sierra Vista Electric came out for my ceiling fan that was making some noise. It didn’t cost me anything to have them take a look at it. They made an adjustment and were on their way. I’m about ready to re-up for my next home warranty. I’ll probably go with the same company, American Home Shield, because they have changed some things within the app. Trying to get service has been a lot better. Having American Home Shield, I can just make a call or go on my smartphone, put in the request, and it's painless. I like that process. The contractors are held accountable and that gives me a peace of mind. It’s worth the money I spent upfront. I wish the copay wasn’t as much though. There are other services who don’t charge as much for copay. But you get what you pay for. If the service is there, I wouldn’t mind it as much. If the service wasn’t there and there was no accountability, then I would have a big issue.
However, when you call American Home Shield's customer service, it's fragmented. When I had to deal with my pool, I would talk to one person, and this person had to wait to talk to this person. The timeliness of handling is one of their biggest issues. The communication stream is an issue too. I don’t know if they use an offshore resource for their communication, but it can be dicey. There's a language barrier and there's an issue with following through. This person should have the notes in the system, so this person can see. It shouldn’t have to go through all these different steps. That’s ridiculous.

The stove wasn't there anymore and that was where it was leaking. My husband has put a drywall up to cover the hole where it was so if it's still leaking, I don't see any marks. I wasn’t getting any cold air and I informed American Home Shield by phone because I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing as far as filing the claim for the air conditioner. It was easy to contact the representative, and she gave me who the job was assigned to. At that time though, it was really hot in Chicago and they couldn't come out for four days. I asked the rep if could she locate anybody that could come sooner, and she said no. Also, American Home Shield takes the money right out your account before anybody even gets there, and we don't know if they're gonna do a good job. They put the money on hold, then once the work is done, they release it.
I gave American Home Shield 100, and the tech who came for the air conditioner was pretty good. However, he told me to get him an extra 100 because the one pound of Freon he had to put in wasn't covered. He told me I needed it, but he didn't fill it up. It was strange because I paid $500 for Freon two years ago and I thought Freon lasts long once you get it filled up. I didn't understand, and my question was if there was no leak, why did I need Freon? Overall, I'm not too happy, so I wouldn't recommend anybody. I was gonna leave American Home Shield myself, but I said I'll wait a little while. I know another home warranty place where they bill you monthly, you don't have to pay that $100 fee.

I had three different claims. I had plumbing work issues, and the plumbing guy that came out here did great. I only had to wait a few days before he got the parts and came out here and fixed everything. The electrician guy was awesome too. There was an addition built in front of the house, which is why he came out here from the beginning. I went to try to take the excess walls down, and there were seven outlets all wired into one outlet from the main house. That just wasn't working. The electrician did all that work and asked me if I had any more issues. I said, “Not at the moment.” When the lady called me back and asked me how they did, I said they were great. She said, “Well, if you have any more issues, let me know.” I found there's an outlet that is just hanging out in the open with the wires in the closets and I have a four-year-old here. I thought, “Why would this be in a closet? I don't understand.” This house is really trippy.
Also, I might have to have the electrician come back out here, because recently, all of the lights in the house are starting to flicker, especially if a ceiling fan is connected to it. It's like it's getting a short. There's a ceiling fan in the living room, and the dining room has one as well. I can cut the ceiling fan off and just have the light on, and when I do that, the light bulbs just dim out. At first, I thought it was the light bulbs. I went and bought new light bulbs and started changing them all out because it'd be one room at first and then it went to a different room. It was left and right, and I thought, “Okay. Maybe all these light bulbs are old.” Now, the electricity is starting to mess up, and I'm worried about this house catching on fire.
I had an air conditioner unit issue too, and I told American Home Shield when I did the claim that the vent pieces all the way through the attic is decayed. When the air conditioner people came out, I got the gentleman to look at it. He took pictures, showed them to me and told me there were no signs of rodents up there. However, he only looked at one unit, so I have to pay another $85 and do another claim on the second air conditioner unit and the vent pieces through the attic. I shouldn't have to do that because I told American Home Shield from the beginning that there are two central air units in the house. The people that I talked to were really nice. They have really good people skills and they show concern, but I don't think that they're typing in the proper stuff that I'm trying to explain to them. I don't know much about HVAC and I'm not an electrician, either.
Another thing is I had issues with the HVAC people. The gentleman showed up early the first time. He contacted me, and I told him I was around the corner. I was coming, but he ended up putting a, “Sorry, I missed you” note on my door. My neighbor turned around and watched him leave, and not even two minutes after, I pulled up. I was really upset. I called the company and let them know what the HVAC guy did. The lady said, “Well, hold on. Let me try to get him to turn around.” When she called him -- and this all happened within 10 minutes -- he tried to tell her that he was all the way at Buffalo, which is over an hour away. He literally just left this house. There was no way he was that far unless he's got some kind of lead foot, and even then, he was liable to get pulled over because of all the cops that are out here.
I had to reschedule and I had to wait over three weeks to get them out here from the first time. American Home Shield ended up putting a rush on the company to come out here. They came out here a while ago and now they're telling me that they're not going to be able to fix anything until the 25th. The vent pieces are probably as old as the house, and this house was built in 1962. You can tell it's worn down and just terrible. It's not even silver anymore. Most of what you see is the insulation. So we're having problems breathing here, and I can't have the person I'm taking care of, Charles, come back from rehab until all this stuff is fixed, because there's no way he would make it in here, especially with him being on continuous oxygen. Plus, I have a disabled person in here that's asthmatic, and I'm asthmatic as well. The heat alone is terrible.
I talked to a lady through American Home Shield, and she told me she was going to try to get a different company out here. I said, “That would be great because these people don't know anything.” It's been a really hot mess, and midday, we suffer a lot. Our electricity bill first came in from some of the electrical work that American Home Shield did, and it's $750 for the first month, and there's no way it should be that high. Between these air conditioners trying to struggle and cool this house down, and the electrical work, it has put a damper on our power bill. Now I'm struggling to come up with $750 because I have until the 25th to pay that. American Home Shield really needs to get better companies to do work for them.

My dishwasher's door wasn't closing. The spring messed up from the door, so it wouldn't close. And it wasn't rinsing anymore. My appointment was set quickly. The tech was very friendly. He looked at it, spent a bit of time troubleshooting, and that was it. He said it would be expensive to fix it because there is a lot of moving pieces so that it would be more than what it was worth. And once he determined that the dishwasher would be able to be fixed, I got quick confirmation from AHS.
However, I was a bit upset because all of my appliances are KitchenAid and American Home Shield didn't have any of the KitchenAid ones on their website. I tried to look at Lowe's but I would end up having to pay $500 out of my pocket. AHs would give me $700 but the cheapest KitchenAid dishwasher was 1,200 and change. I would get free delivery from Lowe's, but I would still have to pay installation, which they wanted to charge me another 179. I'm buying the whole damn thing by myself. Plus, the 125 for the person who came to diagnose. That was a bit of a bummer. But it's what to expect, because KitchenAid is a higher end brand. I hate their appliances now. But I like to keep everything uniform.
So, I just went with a GE. They came to deliver it, and the hoses wouldn't fit. They weren't long enough. The contractor told me it wouldn't work so we needed to contact AHS to see if they could contact GE to get new hoses or we needed to buy them on our own. So, I contacted AHS and the representative told me that that was my expense, that they couldn't get me new hoses from GE. AHS only provided what came in the box. My husband freaked out. The hoses that are in the boxes are not even GE hoses. They're a third-party hose. My husband would have thought they would have been actual GE hoses, but they're not.
I called AHS and they said that I would have to do that out of my own pocket because they wouldn't provide any more service. So, I spent $60 on hoses. And I had to set up another appointment for someone else to come and install it. It's still sitting in my dining room. My husband went to Lowe's and got whatever we needed. I needed to call AHS back to set up another appointment to have another contractor come. So, a week later, here we are. AHS said a new contractor will come today.

With the air condition company, at first they came out and fixed the problem. They had to put a pusher on the compressor. But the pusher didn’t work. We called them back and said the pusher didn’t work. They said they would contact American Home Shield to see if they could order a new compressor. But we hadn’t heard anything. So, I went on AHS and hit the thing for that service part and said it still was not cooling. I tried to call the company back to see where it was at, but they weren’t answering their phone. So, I called AHS and asked if they could contact the company to see if we could get a status update, and it took a long time.
AHS finally got ahold of the company to say they had ordered the part on the fifth of July, and it was supposed to come in some time soon. We finally got a text from the company that said the part would come on Sunday. And they reached back out to AHS. Now, the part is not coming until the 31st July. It’s a 104 here in El Paso and the AC that has gone out is the upstairs AC. It’s horrible to sleep in. And because that AC is continuously running, and it's not running the compressor, it's just running a fan, the electric bill has gone up. How come it has been taking a long time to get ahold of that company? And how come they haven’t provided feedback? I tried to figure out. So, I contacted AHS and said, “Do I ask for another company to service us versus them because of the way they’re actually handling the situation?” It was terrible.
I recently contacted AHS by phone because I wanted to make sure what I read about the pool coverage was correct because to me, the wording was odd. I wanted to make sure, as far as the pump, because it says above-ground, inground. And I didn't know what it meant for the pump. So, I called and asked some more clarifying questions for the pump. True Blue made an appointment, came out, fixed the leak that was coming from the pool pump, and we were good to go.

Having AHS is convenient. My washing machine stopped working and the pump was out. The techs came right away. They had to order a pump and another part because the washing machine was leaking out the front. They came out on a Friday, and then the next Friday, they fixed it. Their contractor L and S was perfect, but I requested them. I have had a vendor come out the first time I ever called for plumbing that I wasn't happy with. The same thing happened with the drain clogged again. When I called the second time to request someone, I requested that that vendor not come out. So, the vendor they sent out then was really good and I had no problems.
AHS should look for local vendors instead of vendors that are far away. They always send me a vendor who is two hours away and who has to drive that far which is ridiculous. Also, when I ask to have somebody close, it seems like they take the first person off the list and they don't investigate any further. That, I don't like.

I have had American Home Shield after purchasing several investment properties as well as on my main house over the last several years. My complaint is 100% about their customer service people (not US based?) and their inability to do anything but read back a script, put you on hold to "check" on your issue, and then read back the same script when your 10 minute hold is over.
I have 3 AC units on my current house, and the mid sized one failed. After sending an unacceptable contractor for the initial claim, and a lot of arguing, they resent a different contractor (after I paid an additional $75). That contractor is scheduled to replace the unit tomorrow am. A second unit failed yesterday, but they assigned yet another contractor to evaluate that unit (who knows when they can be out) instead of the guy that will already be at my house tomorrow. No amount of logic would get their rep to change the assignment for the new claim to THEIR contractor that is already scheduled to be onsite. Absolutely Crazy runaround every time, on every claim.

I like Home Shield so far because I chose my own agents or companies. I told them whether this person was good or not. So far, my plumbing and other issue was good. But I do have my issues with my air conditioning. When my jet tub had something clogged, the contractor fixed it. Then there was leakage and two other things but they were not able to do that because they said it was a maintenance problem. So most of my things were not covered. But they were great. I am happy with my Home Shield. They have great customer service and the technicians were good.

I had a plumber that was going to replace a hot water heater. After my warranty, he was gonna charge me $850, which I can buy at Lowe's for $500. I also had a refrigerator repairman come out and fix my refrigerator but I had to call in a different person to come actually fix it. He didn't know how to do it. But AHS is worth it. You just got to make sure that they get good contractors sent to you.

I requested the contractor, BA Distributing, because they had been here previously to work on my double ovens. This time, it was for the dishwasher and it was fantastic dealing with them. I will continue to specifically request them if ever I have an appliance need because I trust them. They get the job done, and they're professional and friendly. I pay into American Home Shield each month. Sometimes, the copay, which is what I call it for the service, annoys me a bit. But I get done what I need to get done. The people that AHS sends here fix the problem. So, I don't have any complaints.

The contractor replaced both faucets. One was seized up and the other one was leaking badly. They had to order faucets, so they came out two or three times. They were real good and I would use them again. I have a claim in now for my swimming pool for two days. The pump and the filter had quit working. However, I haven't heard anything back from the contractor. Other than that, I have no complaints at all. AHS is very convenient.

We had a plugged-up drain outside the air conditioner. I told American Home Shield about it by phone. It was not difficult to contact them and their rep was great. The first person who came out did not find the problem. They sent a leak detector guy out, and he found the problem in a short amount of time. He was very professional. He snaked the drain and unclogged it. So far, it’s doing fine.

The readout on the top of the stove was giving us error messages. The contractor was great. But AHS screwed up. They said, “Okay. We'll have a technician there on a certain date” and then that didn't happen. This is a vacation home in a remote area, so we weren't gonna be available for another month. But we had a wonderful supervisor who worked out where the people who did come came. I'm really happy with the supervisor who helped me get somebody right away. He went out of their network and got Accurate Appliance. I was happy with that contractor. They did a wonderful job. The tech was very professional and well-groomed. He knew what he was doing and he was efficient. He communicated well too. I couldn't ask for anything better.

My air conditioner was leaking up there and it was very difficult to get them when I called. They told me they were coming out but it was a week or so before they came. But I understand and I had good interactions with A-US Air Conditioning of Texas when they came out. They went up to the attic and do what they could do. But they thought they fixed it and a day or so later, it started leaking again. The contractor told me the pan was full of water and he told me the water had to leak out. It should be all leaked out.

American Home Shield uses quality vendors. This last one was A&E Factory Service. They took care of the problem. The pulley had broken on my dryer. The first repair guy that came out oiled it. Then I had to call back. American Home Shield sent the same company but someone else, and he realized it was the pulley. He replaced it and it's worked fine since then. I had a previous claim for my PTAC but that one didn't work as well as the dryer claim. This other vendor about the heating and air conditioning was a company that was far out. It was hard to get follow-up with them. They supposedly put a new unit in but it doesn't seem to work as effective as it should.

We called them and the tech came out to fix it right away, and it's been working all along. He told us exactly what was going on. It was pretty quick. American Home Shield is a good insurance policy. I had an air conditioner guy come out and fix my unit when it broke, courtesy of American Home Shield. Customer service was great, and the air conditioner guy was very competent and professional. I was hoping that my ACs would give up the ghost, and when one went out, I thought, “Oh, good. Maybe I’ll get it replaced.” But it was just something that could be fixed, and that’s fine. I got American Home Shield because my ACs are 20 years old, and I didn't want to have to foot the full bill for it. I don't think they’re ever gonna die though.

The biggest benefit of having a home warranty is if there's a breakdown in one of the appliances, it would get replaced for free per policy. American Home Shield's service so far is pretty good. We used it when the AC was not working and someone came out to fix something. I wasn't there but my tenant was. The unit worked after a few tries.
The only thing with the home warranty was I was hoping the deductible could be lower. When I have an issue and I call someone to see if they can get that fix, I know there's a deductible but a lot of us probably do not want to have to pay that deductible if the problem is not covered. When I called out for an electrician to come out to check my lights, they came but they said that my claim was not covered. I had to pay the $100 deductible anyways without anything getting fixed. After that, I had to call in my complaint and the $100 was refunded. I was hoping there's a way to find out for sure if something is covered or not before the tech comes out.

Having a home warranty is emotionally convenient. When I had a water heater that was leaking and causing an issue to the foundation, all I had to do was just call American Home Shield. They had a plumber come in and he checked it out, told me what needed to be done and did it. He was extremely professional. He explained the process and what something was for, what should be there and what was missing. It was a little process because we had to get a second contractor to rebuild because of the water damage. Everybody was busy and we barely just got it done. I called back yesterday to see when I can make an appointment for the contractors from Home Shield to make the repair, and they answered and made an appointment today. I'm extremely happy. So far, American Home Shield is great. This is the biggest thing I've ever done as a homeowner.

I got American Home Shield because I just bought an older home and so I was worried. I've heard horror stories such as the service taking weeks. I called American Home Shield on a Sunday midday for a claim that my air conditioner was out. Customer service was very polite and they said, “The place in your town will be calling you about 8:00 a.m.” By 8:03, that company called me and by 2:00, I was up and running. The techs had a new condenser and a new thermostat. They had to almost rebuild the AC unit and it happened lightning fast. I’m gonna be calling the warranty company again because my fridge is acting crazy.

We love American Home Shield. We've been with them for 19 years. The first technician that came for our AC unit was nice. He did the two things that had to be done on the fan unit, and it was working. But there was a problem. The circuit breaker kept going off. He came back, checked, then said, “It's not legal for me to be able to try to fix that. You need the electrician.” We called American Home Shield again, and they sent an electrician. He was also a nice guy, and he changed the circuit breaker. But he said it wasn't the circuit breaker, it had got something to do with the unit. We called back American Home Shield again. They sent Michael and he knew what it was right away. He replaced the part that was needed. It was a starter in the fan unit. He was in and out in 12 minutes and it's been fine ever since. The first guy should have known about the starter in that unit. But the thing was it was working. The only thing that was happening was it was blowing that circuit breaker.

Last year, they sent someone to fix my fridge and they could not find the part. The techs said, "AHS is gonna give you $400 to order the new one." And then, I asked them, "Can you give me the money? Let me buy it." They said, "No, you have to give us the receipt. If you purchase, we will give you money." But didn't happen. Finally, I just decided to replace the fridge because no one would help me out.
Recently, the AC compressor wasn't working. It took two days for someone to come out for parts. But the technician was good. I like American Home Shield for peace of mind. Sometimes they have a glitch but it's okay. Sometimes they a technician who has no clue and I don't blame them. But I still recommend AHS to anyone asking.

The first contractor that American Home Shield sent couldn't come out for about three weeks so it would have been three weeks without AC on my bottom floor. But once they got me to the second contractor, it was seamless. I ended up paying 700 bucks for the Freon though. AHS only did $20. But the actual American Home Shield part of it was good and I feel fine about it. Now, my second unit is having issues so I called AHS and they sent me back to the same contractor they first sent out. It's almost two weeks out before they can come to the house so I don't understand why AHS keeps going to somebody that is overbooked. I have not had a call from the person that they've pushed it to yet. I know they got a certain amount of time but still.

American Home Shield's service is horrible. The call center is terrible. I couldn't get a straight answer out of them. I get stuck in circles. I had a point a couple of weeks ago where I got so frustrated with them that I tried to escalate the issue and waited more than 24 hours for the escalation department to call me back. It happened last year when I was having issues with my refrigerator, where they sent out multiple repair people. Nobody could seem to diagnose or fix the issue and I was stuck in the middle. It took months and months before we finally were able to replace the refrigerator because it couldn't be repaired.
This year, the issue is with my air conditioner and they engaged a local contractor. The contractor came out, told me what the problem was, told me that AHS had this ProConnect program where I could have my entire system replaced at a significant discount. He sent me the ProConnect proposal. When I talked to the AHS customer service people, they said that he had never requested an authorization to release a proposal.
It took me a week to determine whether or not the ProConnect proposal I got from the contractor was legitimate. The contractor told me that AHS has no idea what they're doing and they never do. ProConnect has been good. But the call center I call into is awful. I couldn't get any good information out of them. And when you have to do multiple phone calls, it's like starting from scratch all over again. Most of them don't speak any English. So, they're offshore somewhere. They're very difficult to deal with. I wouldn't recommend AHS to anybody.

I had two refrigerators go out and I am very happy with the technician that came out. He was very professional. He knew exactly what he was doing. For the other refrigerator, it's 30 years old and I didn't know if it was time to put it out to the graveyard but he said all it needed was a fan. It didn't need another compressor. The compressor was great. It's been working beautifully ever since he left.
