    I have been a customer of AHS for more than 10 years and have recently had the need to request service. One thing that they do not tell you is that you do not get the opportunity to pick the contractor who provides the services to your home. My first experience is that I had an issue with my dryer. The dryer was not heating. They sent a contractor out to repair the dryer and 2 weeks later the dryer stopped heating again. They sent the same contractor out to repair the dryer and a week later the dryer stopped heating. I requested a different contractor and was told that I had to pay my $100 deductible if I wanted another contractor. Well, the problem was not resolved after the 3rd attempt to fix the dryer. I ended up purchasing a new dryer out of frustration that the problem was not going to be resolved.

    Now we are in a heat wave and my A/C goes out. The A/C unit that AHS had put in my home for which I had to come out of pocket over $1,000 to have installed (because they don't cover, what is said to be "upgrades"). A contractor was sent to my home and it was determined that the coils in the inside unit was leaking. I was told that this should not be occurring in a unit as new as mine and that I was provided a 'lemon'. The technician indicated that his supervisor had to come out and confirm his assessment of the unit and discuss next steps. The next day the supervisor comes to my home stays approximately 6 minutes and tell me that he will be sending a report to AHS informing them of problem for them to let him know what part of the repair they will be covering.

    I had not heard from either AHS or the contractor a week later and when I contacted AHS to determine the status of the claim, they shared with me that the A/C company reported that the job was completed. After informing AHS that the A/C is not repaired and that I am left in my home with an infant and 2 toddlers in the middle of a heat wave with no A/C they claimed that they would be reaching out to the company and monitoring the status of the repair.

    My A/C is still not repaired I have been forced to purchase window units to cool off certain parts of my home, the children are sleeping in one room in the same bed because the house is so hot, I can not function in certain parts of the house because it is extremely hot and despite, my constant calling asking to speak to a supervisor, I have not heard from AHS or the contractor assigned to complete the repair of my A/C.

    This situation has caused me to plan activities for my family during weekends for which they can access air conditioning and has caused me to acquire unnecessary expenses. Because I was not given the opportunity to select the contractor who service my home and was forced to accept whoever was sent to my home I am in an uncomfortable and in most cases, unbearable situation. It is 3 weeks since I requested that my A/C be repaired and it is not working. I have not heard anything from either AHS or the contractor assigned to complete the repair of my A/C. This is unacceptable and I feel that the company is handling my situation in a callous manner. AHS has not responded to my plea to resolve the issue and I am being told that they have a process that they are following and my claim is being escalated. This is a rip-off and should be addressed.

    We got new locks for the new tenants and Arizona Sunrise Lock & Key came out. They're a wonderful company. The guy was amazing and did the work fast and right. He was super polite and nice. Everything was great. But then I had the AC experience. A different rental home with a tenant had an AC that wasn’t working. American Home Shield sent out a contractor but they couldn’t come out for a week even though they’re called Same Day. When they came out, they told the tenant that they fixed it, but it still wasn't fixed. So then, we had to ask them to come back out again and that took another two weeks.

    The tenant worked, so the appointment was scheduled for 1:00pm or later, and they came at 12:30. They canceled the appointment because she wasn't home even though it had been pre-arranged. They wouldn't come until 1:00. American Home Shield wouldn't let us switch companies. They said we had to stay with Same Day Air, even though I called. One guy told me he didn't know how. He put me on hold and then hung up on me. I called back and there was another lady who was nice that said we had to stick with Same Day Air. So, we waited for them to come back. This whole process took six weeks. When they finally came back, the tech told me there was too much pressure in the system, so they removed the filter dryer. I said that they couldn't just remove parts of the AC to make it work right. They had to figure out what was causing the problem and I wanted them to put those parts back on. He said it was just extra. But it still didn't work.

    These homes are two-story homes and they only have one unit because it's a smaller square footage. They have something called the zone control with dampers and there's a computer system that controls the different zones and two different thermostats. You can have temperatures in the two different zones be different. I asked the tech if this was not a zone control issue because the same thing was happening in the other house when we lived there. He told me he tested it, that it couldn't be zone control. After I told him to put that filter dryer back on, he said it was a zone control issue and they don't work on that. This is after six weeks of the AC not working right when it's 110 degrees outside.

    I had called American Home Shield multiple times and got hung up on a couple of times and nobody could help. They told me I'm not allowed to talk to supervisors, that a supervisor would get back to me within three to five business days. I finally got somebody on the line who said they'll have to put the call back out to find someone who could do zone control but nobody wants to work on it because it's complicated. The second company said they couldn’t work on our unit because they didn't install the zone control themselves and we told American Home Shield that. The company told us that they didn't know why it was assigned to them. I wasted days of my life trying to get this fixed and finally, AHS got us a company that could do it and that company was great. They came out and said that we can never remove the dryer filter. Otherwise, moisture gets in there throughout the unit and it can cause mold problems. They asked if it was Same Day Air that did this because they were always fixing all the stuff they break. I don't know why American Home Shield still uses the company. It was the worst service ever because they kept assigning us to that company.

    If the tenant had asked me, I would have had to get her a hotel room for six weeks. But she didn't want to go to a hotel, so I had to get her a little portable AC unit that she was able to put in her upstairs. It kept her upstairs cool and she just didn't live downstairs. But it was an unreasonable response from American Home Shield to make us deal with their company that long and that they knew couldn't help. Once AHS expires, I'm moving to a different home warranty company because of this experience.

    The AC unit went out and I did one of those virtual claims through the phone with American Home Shield. I love it because it went out in the middle of the night. I just pulled up my phone, hit the claim, and it was right there. It was much easier than having to wait for the warranty company to open the next day. The technicians wanted to come out the next day. We couldn’t make it so they came out the day after which was a Saturday morning. They replaced the capacitor and we were back up and running within an hour.

    I haven't had to use American Home Shield many times. So, it was frustrating. This year, I did have to use it and we had a water leak. When you do have a problem, it's not a one-stop operation. You have to go through many modalities to try to get your situation fixed. To me, it was such a headache and I still don't have all my repairs done and it's because AHS does not cover these under the thing. I don't even know if it's worth my effort to even have the coverage, but at the end of the day, all I wanted to do was to get my house repaired.

    I also had plumbing problems and that was another problem, too. We're in the middle of a drought and I had to sit here and wait so long to get an AC person out here. To me, that's ridiculous because I know other people who had AC problems and they were able to fix their AC and get an AC person out of pocket and not using a Home Shield place, and they get their AC serviced within a reasonable balanced amount of time. I had to wait 10 days. It seemed like forever before I ever got somebody out here from the time it was broken. It was 100-something degrees here in Texas and it was miserable. I work from home.

    AHS has no backup plan when there is a disaster. They should have a clause where it says, "If we're in a disaster declared state or state of emergency of some sort, we will reimburse you if you want to go outside the plan, x amount of dollars. You do not have to wait on one of our vendors." I think that that's where they fail in the satisfaction of their customers because they failed me as a customer when they did not provide me with an alternative plan. I even said, "If I pay for this out of my pocket, will you reimburse me?" They said, "No." So, I had to wait. Then, they try to upsell their products when they come to your home and fix your air conditioner.

    I feel like they set their customers up. Right now, I have an ice maker that's out on my icebox. I don't have the energy to deal with AHS and their people to come to my house to put in a ticket for that. It's almost like, "Why don't I just go buy an ice maker and try to just fix it myself?" I'm at the point now where with YouTube and everything else, what's the point of paying AHS and then having to pay somebody? In the beginning, it was really easy to get an appointment and to be serviced. This past year sucked.

    When the motor stopped going on and off, the AC went out. They said it was not normal wear and tear. They didn't even pay for it. I had to pay for it out of my pocket. The people were extremely rude. Before that, American Home Shield also didn't pay when there was a clog in the plumbing. I've had those two back-to-back claims after several months and years of doing pretty well with them.

    The spring broke in my garage door so I called it in on a Saturday. It took a little bit for the contractor to come out. But once they came out, it was quick. The tech was a pretty witty and cool guy. I like him. I had another claim for the roof and it was awesome. When I put the claim in, American Home Shield got it scheduled the next day. Then the tech came the next after that, and he said he was coming back the next day. He said, "Do you mind if I work at 5:00 in the morning?" Because it's hot in Arizona. He took care of it. It's been raining hard since then and it hasn't leaked where I told him where it was. So he resolved it. It was pretty smooth. American Home Shield delivered, so I like that.

    The cooling part of the refrigerator at my rental property stopped working. The contractor referred the claim to somebody else. The tenant was so overwhelmed with how long they didn't have a refrigerator so they just bought one. So, I had to reach out to American Home Shield and cancel the next step but they had to escalate the problem. I've never heard anything back about that step and no one ever reached back out to me.

    I ended up reaching back out and the reps were like, "Oh, wait. They did put in a note to escalate it.” But no one had actually escalated it. It was a week and so now I'm arguing with my tenant and I had to tell him, "You're gonna leave that refrigerator now." It was frustrating because I was thinking, “Oh, someone’s gonna call me.” and the next service person didn’t call.

    I logged on, did the claim, and got a response saying it has been submitted. We just said that the garbage disposal was not working. The next day, American Home Shield said it has been assigned to somebody. They contacted me. I gave the information to the tenant because I'm not there. So, the contractor arranged an appointment with the tenant, showed up the next day, and took care of it. It was nothing more than just a gear stuck, and the tech just gave us a crank in the bottom of the garbage disposal and loosened it. He was done in 10 minutes. That particular incident saved me at least an hour and a half to two hours. If you need to have a home warranty insurance, I would recommend AHS.

    With American Home Shield, some things are irritating and some things go smoothly. When we first started, we had an issue with our dishwasher. The company American Home Shield used was poor. They couldn't understand what we were saying. We couldn't understand what they were saying. Nobody spoke English. They would not set appointment times and just come over. One of them wrote up a false report and American Home Shield took it wrongly. He told us what he found but American Home Shield denied us the claim because there was something found that they thought would deny it. There was some egg shell in the line. They didn't even offer us any options, so we had to get angry and escalate it until we talked to a manager who told us that we could get a second opinion if we paid, and if it came back the same, we would be denied again and would lose that $100. If it came back differently, we wouldn't have to pay the $100.

    They got another guy that was awesome. He came during his appointment times. We fully understood him. He found the error, where they couldn't find it after three trips. They looked for parts but couldn't find it. Once they said they couldn't fix it, I got a call and an email to get the new dishwasher and it came a couple of days later. It was a three-month process. It ended great but the whole thing was tiresome. It was difficult to do. We've had a few other claims and everything was perfect. However, some of these vendors that American Home Shield uses are strange. The first ones that came for the dishwasher were in Vancouver. We have plenty of people in Portland. Even though Portland and Vancouver are very close, I'm wondering if they are even licensed here.

    The vendors need to be upgraded a bit. When we look them up, they have horrible ratings. American Home Shield wants to save money when they can, but sometimes, it's not worth it. That whole situation ended up costing them more money than us because of poor vendor service. Some of the vendors have been great. But they all have low scores online which terrifies me. That should be American Home Shield's number one focus. Number two is less commercials for themselves. I get four or five emails a day from them that advertise their own stuff. I'm already paying for them so I don't need all those emails. They are advertising their own product I already buy from them, and I'm confused about that.

    I’ve had American Home Shield for a while on two different properties, and I’ve had nothing but excellent experience and service, even though I had some stuff I had to call about a couple of times and get resolved. But I was told by the staff on hand they got resolved in a timely manner. The technicians are always very nice, pleasant and friendly too. American Home Shield did everything told me they were going to do and close to the date they said for which it would come through. They kept their word. I sold a property, so I keep it on my house now, and everything's been awesome.

    My claim on the humidifier on my AC to American Home Shield went great. The technicians who came out were very professional and got the job done. I've had previous repairs that also went well. The best thing about having the warranty is I have someone to call. I don’t have to look around for a company. They will hook me up with a company.     I always said that it was water sputtering on the AC vents on the floor. First, American Home Shield sent a plumber. But the plumber said, “No, this is AC.” But the first plumber that they sent wanted to charge us out of pocket $250 because he said that the water sputtering in the AC vents was coming from the shower valve. He got upset because I said, “This is not a shower valve. Excuse me. I'm touching them and they're dry.” He left because he was upset and he left all the walls exposed. We live in a mobile home. We cannot move it anymore because it's in a lot. That's the contract with the owner of the land. It's like a normal house. He exposed all the shower valves in the back and on the bottom. He ripped off the glue that covered that with nails that were rusted.

    We didn't believe what he said and we paid for a second opinion. A second plumber from 5 Star came and he said, “No. Why am I sending a plumber? This is an AC technician.” But instead of sending a technician from 5 Star, AHS sent a technician from Dr. Cool, and they said it was my coil inside the furnace that was old. And due to wear and tear, it needed to be replaced. I was happy because it would be changed.

    The technician from Dr. Cool said that the previous technician showed us that the coil inside the furnace was old, had corrosion and was bent because of the years. That thing is more than 20 years. I said AHS said would replace it. But this AHS call center in the Philippines said no. There was no wear and tear. I said, I wanted to see the diagnosis. They would never send the diagnosis it. 10 times, they promised to send a supervisor. But there was no way to speak to anyone.

    Customer service is horrible. They're in the Philippines. They don't have a supervisor. Nothing. And after months, I just bump my head on the wall because the only thing that they do is hang up the call. They never transfer me to a supervisor. I have spent 10 to 12 hours myself, besides my husband trying to resolve these with AHS since June 24.

    I got my call escalated after several calls. That's when they sent 5 Star. The technician agreed on the same one, but they wanted me to pay another diagnosis. If it was different, I would have to pay another $100. I was sure it would be the same thing. Nothing to do with the shower. Then 5 Star came, said the same. “The coil is the call is bent, rusted, old, needs to be replaced.” All this time, we have been smelling moldy water sputtering six foot from our bed. And Vegas is 110. How do we turn off the AC?

    Finally, the opinion from Dr. Cool was to change the coil. The second opinion that I needed to pay again, was the same. And this time, I made sure that they would read the diagnosis here because the first time, they said different. The tech left me an invoice saying the coil needed to be replaced because it’s bent and corroded due to wear and tear. I said, “Oh, this time, it will work.”

    I called AHS 48 hours after they diagnosed. “We lost the paper. We don't have it.” I tried calling 5 Star several times and they said, “We already sent it. What is wrong?” And even the technician from 5 Star a week after said, “I'm going to stop working. I wanna call them. I wanna make sure they receive the fax and I'm going to make sure they understand that these needs to have replaced."

    We waited. We called Monday. 5 Star said, “We did it.” And I called American Home Shield. “It’s in our authorization department.” Two days ago, I was told that the tech would not proceed my claim because it doesn't say normal to wear and tear. And I said, “Come on. How is gonna someone get into a closet inside furnace with a one inch gap just to put your hand to bend something?” That would be abnormal. Or the corrosion will come from us? There's no access to that thing. It's a machine inside a machine.

    It has been a nightmare. If you see the reviews on Facebook, there are even pages that say, “People who hate American Home Shield.” American Home Shield claims. American Home Shield lawsuits. People complaining about the same. It was the second time that two different technicians said the same thing, and the first time, they changed the diagnosis verbally. And the second time that I have a diagnosis on my hand, they said it would not be covered. And it's playing games.

    When I called, it was for a refrigerator freezer and stove. I was told it'd be one service charge because it was both appliances. AHS put in a work order and told me Sears would be coming out. When they did, they said they only had a claim for the refrigerator freezer and not for the stove and that I had to call back. So, I called back and AHS said, “Yeah, it was a work order done, but it's gonna be another service charge.” I said, “No, I'm not going to pay another service charge ‘cause the reps told me that it would be one service charge.” That rep said, “Well, Sears only fixed one thing and we have to get another company." I told them that it's a recorded line and they could check and see that a rep told me it would only be one service charge. So, they didn't charge me a second time. The tech fixed the stove and replaced a switch. Everything worked out alright. AHS is a good thing to have.

    We had an AC problem. The Freon had leaked out. The tech had to recharge the entire unit. AHS just covered $10 per pound and the cost of it was over $100 a pound. So my bill was huge. I was really unhappy with that. But the tech that went out and fixed it was a good guy. He was upfront, found the problems, and in the course of it all, fixed the leak. I ended up with eight pounds of coolant having to go. I liked him better than other techs that have come out here to work on various things. I'd use this guy again where some of the other techs I would not.

    Overall, I am not happy with AHS. I had to have my tankless water heater replaced a year ago. The guy they sent out was terrible. I ended up calling the plumbing company and wanting to talk to the manager about it. He never did. He avoided me. I ended up going through his receptionist. He adjusted the bill a little bit. But the job was still a mess. It looked terrible in my garage. AHS's pick of companies is not always the best, although they may not have any idea who they're hiring. Also, when you call AHS, you always get the machine. Nobody ever answers. It's ridiculous.

    I had a plumbing claim and the contractor that came out told me that the one in the backyard was not covered by American Home Shield, but they could fix it by coming inside and opening up a space in the wall in my bathroom, taking out drawers under the cabinet, et cetera.     I've had to use American Home Shield twice in the five years that I've had them and they have been right on spot. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas is top of the line. I'm gonna ask for them each and every time if I have to call again. I was very pleased with them both times. The first time, it was some part on the unit. They had to order it out of Dallas. They had it that night. They were here at 7 o'clock the next morning and it was fixed in 30 minutes. This time, it was a condenser.     I do not have a good experience with AHS. The people that I talked to on the phone were very knowledgeable and helpful. But once you passed that, it's always a back and forth thing. I had a situation where last year I had problems with my stove and my refrigerator. By the end of the year, I ended up finally getting them replaced. But all during that time, I had to deal with my refrigerator and losing my food in the freezer and complications with not having the stove working. I also had problems with my toilets. The first tech came but did not repair it because it was broken. I called back and they sent a different one. I have called back since then, but I haven't gotten a response from American Home Shield. I noticed that the toilet is still doing the same thing.

    The AC was the only thing I had to keep calling back reminding them that they sent me a reminder it's time for the AC maintenance. But, they'd say, "It's early now. You can still wait." I wasn't having a problem with the AC then. But I make sure I do the maintenance so in case something happens, I don't want them telling me, "You didn't have maintenance yet and that could have caused the problems."

    They told me wait till July to call back. In the meantime, my air conditioner for some reason has no drip pan under where the water is supposed to vaporize. So water came from under there to my floor since they told me that. It leaked across the hallway, which is a little small area, but it's still connected to my wood floor that goes out to my living room. I called back about it. But nobody's responded. Then the guy came and did the maintenance. He said the air conditioner was good. But he said he would put something in about what happened and also that I don't have a pan that's supposed to be under there. I never heard any feedback.

    There was also a problem with my sink. They sent someone to fix it. When they sent someone to fix the toilet, the original request and they had to end up sending someone to go behind that man to fix my toilet correctly and to fix the sink correctly. The toilet has started to back in my bedroom. It was toilets at one time, the guest and mine. The one in my bedroom was giving me some problems back and I called, but I never got any follow-up.

    The first plumber also chipped up my sink trying to put the part on. When the second plumber came, he said that was unacceptable and that he would let them know that he could fix it, but he would have to get it approved through American Home Shield. But I've never heard anything back on that either. I have had people that they have sent that have done work that I'm not satisfied and who have done damages and that never was followed up. But the people that work for them that deal with the customers were very nice and sorry about my incident and they tried to be very helpful and followed through.

    I reach out to American Home Shield by phone. I always speak to people. I don't do automated. Overall, the experience with AHS has been terrible. BW came out for an electrical issue. It was the breaker box that was the reason for the call. After they got there, they began to look around at different things. There were some other things that they were having problems with. I don't live there. My aunt and uncle do. They call me with these problems, and I had this person come out for the electrical. He was very helpful with them. They are older people, and they haven’t had any more problems. What he did was very beneficial for them.

    There have been so many problems, but AHS was giving me a date way away. They’re older people, and I needed something sooner. The issue was causing the air conditioning to keep cutting off. So, I had to call around and find somebody from the list that they gave me. Then, when I called them back to let them know that the people that they had set up had agreed that if I found somebody, they would be okay with me taking them. They said that they had to do this and had to do that. I had to end up waiting for them. Every time I called AHS, they can’t get somebody out sooner. I had to go talk to this person. This person said, “Well, we can’t do it. We have to follow the rules.” I was like, “Okay, fine. Let me call back and talk with somebody else.” It’s a struggle every time I call.

    The first time I called AHS, I had a little bit of an issue, but I escalated it and they took care of me 100%. It was for an air conditioning service. The technician was great, very prompt, fast, explained everything, and professional. When they did the air conditioning check, they found out that there was something, that if it wasn't fixed, would have caused several thousand dollars worth of damage. AHS took care of it and even took care of filling up the Freon, which would have cost about $1,000 to do. Having AHS reduced the burden of unexpected cost.

    I called American Home Shield for my pool. The guys were here for very few minutes and said that my pool cleaner that circles inside the pool needed to be repaired. It wasn't working right. That was pretty much what they did. They didn't look at any of the other items. I got that fixed that day, brought it home the next day, still not working. I called American Home Shield. Then I got a callback and I was told, "You reported the wrong item. You said it was the pump and it wasn't. It was the filter." So, they couldn't come right back out. I wound up paying another $75 in order to get them to send Aaron Pools back out to look at the filter.

    They opened that up and told me that some of the grids were broken and those things need to be repaired. They also said, "Your pool people are not putting diatomaceous earth in the pool." I said, "That's strange." Finally, Aaron came out and they were able to finally work with American Home Shield to get them replaced.

    My argument with this whole thing has been that I thought the girl that talked to me over filter or pump was very condescending. I was also upset that Aaron Pools at the first visit did not look at my filter. They didn't even go anywhere near there that I saw. They said they looked and they checked the pool cleaner. I took it off and I got it repaired. Fortunately, one good thing was it was covered by warranty, so I only had to pay for a couple of extra things they put on there for me. But this took two weeks to resolve.

    The manager that I talked to at Aaron Pools was very responsive and excellent. He called me back. He did everything he could to negotiate this with American Home Shield. He was very supportive and his phone people were receptive. When I'd call, they'd say, "Okay, we see this. Let me transfer you back." My only concern was the first two guys that came out. They didn't even go look at the pool and what was going on.

    Technicians came out and looked at my AC unit when it wasn't working at all. They determined that the capacitor of the outside unit was broken. They replaced the capacitor and the unit started working fine. A couple of days later, we had a different problem. The furnace upstairs was leaking. I called American Home Shield and they came back out. It turns out that the drain line was clogged up so they vacuumed that out and there was no more leaking. The technicians were professional. They were on time, courteous, neat and clean. They did the work and told me that if I had any problems within the next 60 days, I should call them directly and they'll come back out.

    I've had American Home Shield for 20 years. When you call them, they either repair or replace just like they said. Every time I had a problem, technicians came out. One time, the power wasn't working in my kitchen. An electric guy came out and he flipped the switch a couple of times in the breaker box in the garage and that fixed the problem. It was something really simple and I could have done that myself if I knew, but I didn't.

    I had a stove replaced in January. I also had a washing machine replaced years ago. Technicians also came out and worked on my dishwasher last year a couple of times. They also replaced a garbage disposal in my kitchen. The only complaint I have with American Home Shield is last year, there was a program they had for additional services where they repair TVs and computers for an additional fee of $900. I signed up for that and they took the money out of my account.

    I called them a couple of days later and said I changed my mind and I really didn't need the service. They didn't give me the money back. Instead, they just stopped charging me my monthly payments until I reach the balance on that. After that, they will start charging my monthly payments again. Other than that, I'm satisfied and I have recommended American Home Shield to other people.

    I had a tub that was backed up. A company came and did a blowout to it. The claim experience is fine but I wish there will be more communication on the front end. Everything is done strictly through the computer. I kept having to call AHS to figure out what was going on like when they would be able to send somebody out.     I signed up for a service and the company that AHS had given me kept putting me off. After four months, I got tired of it, so I cancelled that call and asked for a new one. It was for a summer tune-up to make sure the AC was okay and the new tech that they sent out was polite. He even offered to do more than what I was expecting. I've always been really happy with AHS. I really like that I get nice people and I know they're not people with failing businesses who will take any kind of money just to get some kind of work. I've had those before with the other home warranties and it makes me wonder about the quality. But AHS has normal, average businesses with licenses and they call me timely. I'm also surprised about the people who didn't show up. Usually, they're prompt and good at what they do.

    When you press the lever to either get ice or water from the refrigerator, nothing was coming out. It was just making a clicking sound and it was turning off the compressor. So it turned off the whole refrigeration unit. It stopped getting cold and freezing, so we had to unplug it and then kind of reset it. It started getting cool, but not cool enough. Also, the fan wasn't working. When the tech came out, he said it was the motherboard. But once he replaced the motherboard, the ice dispenser and the water dispenser started working, and it didn't cut off anything. The compressor kept running and it was not short-circuiting.

    As of now, everything is good. Everything is still operational. We've had a great experience with American Home Shield and had no issues, except with the previous claim that is still open for our water heater. American Home Shield was fine. But in terms of the company that came out, I didn't like their attitude and when they came out to do the inspection.

    I was very, very, very frustrated with American Home Shield. I can't talk to anyone in the United States. I can't talk to anyone without an accent, and they didn't listen to me. I broke my ankle, and then the air conditioner went out. I had two weeks leave time for somebody to come and the vendor said, "Well, you might want to call back and see if maybe somebody can come sooner." I did that and they canceled my appointment. After two weeks of being in a hot house with a broken leg, I had no one coming. I was beside myself. When I asked American Home Shield for other people, they gave me people that weren't even coming to the area. It was a total waste of time. I was furious. I hate it. Finally, my husband got on the phone and got them to admit there is no one in United States even.

    I would never recommend American Home Shield and I will warn people against using them because there's no one in United States. Their people don't listen and they argued with me when I asked for help. I would be better off not having a service plan. They advertise things that they don't really do. I'll finish out my contract, and then I'm moving on. They are horrible.

    In the few times I've had to call American Home Shield, they've done really good. The people have come out. But sometimes, the people that they contract out to don't stay up and communicate with me. But they get the job done. I had a claim for the washer and American Home Shield called somebody. They came right out and fixed it. I was happy we were back on track. I had a refrigerator that was 22 years old. The ice maker on it wore out and the contractor came out. But I knew they weren't gonna have the parts for it so they gave me the money to replace the refrigerator. When I call American Home Shield to tell them when I have a issue, they usually assign somebody right away. They tell me the contractor who's coming, and the people call me, and that's how it works. I like American Home Shield because that's who I know and I'm comfortable with.

    It was very shaky at the beginning when I joined American Home Shield. If you called anybody, you spoke to somebody in the Philippines who knew nothing. My account on their website was wrong. They said that my account was cancelled when it wasn't. That was the previous owner. But it got straightened out. I've had a claim for the roof, plumbing, air conditioner and garage door opener. Doing a claim online works better than speaking to somebody that has no idea what they're doing. You go online and choose what the problem is. American Home Shield takes your 75 bucks and sends you whoever the approved vendor is. The garage door opener claim worked well. They had to order the part because they didn't have the part on the truck. They got it in a few days and it got fixed before it totally broke.

    A couple of months ago, I took them up on their HVAC maintenance. A guy came out, looked at it and cleaned it. There was a part that was weak but he didn't replace it. He said, "This is kind of okay." Then my HVAC started making noise so I called. A different guy came and went to the same part. He said it was not good. I told him about the first guy telling me when he was here last time that it was not good. The second guy said, "They're not going to replace the parts when they just come for maintenance. You have to call them again, have another service call then they’ll replace it."

    Recently, we had an air conditioning unit issue and when we called, they said that they need to allow the contractor 24 to 48 hours to contact us before they can schedule the appointment. I was concerned that someone would be reassigned if the contractor did not contact us and then we would have to wait for another 24 to 48 hours for the new contractor. But luckily, it didn't have to get to that point. The contractor called us right away and we got an appointment scheduled within three days. My husband asked if he could be put on some sort of list if anyone canceled. He followed up the next day and they happened to have a cancellation. We got service right away and the issue was fixed. We're pretty pleased with the service so far.

    The only thing is we have a second refrigerator in the garage and I called to add that to my contract but AHS stated that that is not covered. I have the premium plan where even if I have to have an AC unit replaced, the crane would take it away and remove the old unit. I thought I have a pretty good plan but it still doesn't cover a second refrigerator. Otherwise, everything's pretty good with AHS.

    A lot of the technicians that AHS sends out to people do good. I had a problem with a stove recently and the technician who came out was great. But then, I've had some bad experiences with some of techs. When I told AHS about them, they didn't send those techs back anymore. Other than that, sometimes it takes a little long to get and talk to somebody at AHS.

    The first time I called American Home Shield, my dishwasher wouldn't turn on. The tech came and he changed the computer thing that looked like a little computer board. It would turn on. But when I used it, after I turned it on, it wouldn't drain. I had to call them back and pay again the $125 for him to come out to see why it wasn't draining. When he came back, he couldn't figure out why it wasn't draining. He had them call General Electric because that's who the dishwasher was made by. The first guy that came from General Electric said it was fixed, but it wasn't. When he came, I was getting ready to go on a trip, so I didn't really have time to test it to see if it actually worked. When I came back, the first time I used it after he had worked on it, it still wasn't draining. They set me up with another General Electric technician and he came out a week later. After he came out, he was able to fix it and now, it's working properly.

    When the icemaker stopped working, I called American Home Shield, and Sears came out. The guy went in there and looked at it. He told me that I have a Samsung refrigerator and that Samsung has been having issues with their icemaker. He was in the refrigerator trying to pull it up because the ice had gotten hard, and it was hard for him to open it up. There was a part that was needed to fix the refrigerator, but he didn't have that part in stock in his truck, so he ordered it. A woman came out two weeks later, did what she had to do, and it worked for two weeks, then on Saturday, it stopped again. They're coming back out tomorrow.

    What I like about American Home Shield is someone's always there to answer my questions regarding whatever it is. If there's something I don't like that one of the other vendors was supposed to take care of, I call them and they will have someone to come back out and fix the problem. I really love that. They don't go by what the vendors say. They listen to what customers have to say. They then come back out and try to fix it.

    The ceiling fans were not working, and then their electrical outlets were shorting out. I spoke to somebody at American Home Shield. She was engaged. She listened and set up the appointment for service. The tech from Quality Electrical made a couple of visits. He was in and out very quickly. I also had something put in for plumbing and the plumber did half the job, but he didn't come back. So, American Home Shield reassigned it to somebody else. I'm still waiting for that person to come out and that's been about three weeks.

    I had a problem with my AC. I went online and submitted a claim through the website of AHS. It was very user-friendly. I received an email after I submitted it that said a contractor had been assigned. They also sent a text message and it said that the contractor would contact me within 24 hours. I ended up reaching out to the contractor, and then I was assigned a date. I was told that they were full and I had to wait a week before they could come out.

    The tech was really polite and knew what the problem was. He checked the thermometer. He had a little tool where he checked something inside, and then he went to the outside. He was replacing something in a little silver can and he also told me that the Freon was low. He told me that American Home Shield would not cover the Freon and that it was $120 per pound, and I needed 2 lbs. He asked me for the payment and he put in the Freon. He made sure that it was cooling before he left. I was very pleased. However, I was a little disappointed with American Home Shield not covering more than $10 of the Freon.

    But AHS is worth it. I have a current claim pending for a hot water heater replacement. We all know we can't get everything for free and with them even replacing the heater, a portion of it still helps because I'm not having to pay the full amount for the repairs. Also, because I live so far out in the rural area, the 125 copay is probably what I would pay anyway for someone just to come out and check it. That is comparable to other service calls, as far as the service call amount. AHS is a good investment.

    I was on the app and I was trying to figure out how I could be more verbal in letting American Home Shield know what the problem was but it only gave me a few options. My problem was my pipe was leaking under the bathtub. AHS could add more words to explain it. I called them because the first people that they assigned me to said that their person couldn't go on to the house because it was too tight. I was like, “Well, if I can go in there, why can't you?” That one got canceled, and then I had a verbal talk with somebody else after that, so I told them that under the bathtub, it was leaking.     I purchased my own home and I decided to take the best coverage available, so I took the $900 package from American Home Shield. I had three services. The first one was for changing the keys, and that was smooth. The latest one was for my refrigerator not cooling enough, and the technician came and took care of it immediately. The second service is the one that I want to bring to their attention. It just started at the end of April. We are in August, and it's not resolved. It's for the washer that stopped draining. A technician came and looked at it and decided to order a part. A few days later, the part came. The technician came back and decided this cannot be repaired and it needs to be replaced and said, “In the next 72 hours, you will have a replacement code or approval.” A week passed, and I didn't receive anything.

    I called and talked to someone. Most of the people that I talked to are probably outside this country. They said, “Well, we have to check with a technician. We have to have this approved. And I'm sending an email immediately.” Then they said, “Yeah. The email had been sent. We got the confirmation that this cannot be fixed. And within 24 to 72 hours, someone will call you. Someone will email you.” Until today, after calling so many times and getting the same answer each time, I still have a washer that is not fixed and not replaced. I am one of the lucky people that has two washers in my home, so I can use the other one. I just wonder what happens to any homebuyer or any of my clients if they go through the same experience. Until today, I don't know who will call me, and how to get the approval for a replacement.

    I came in, and there was water all over the floor. The drain had stopped up. I live in Mississippi, and humidity is tremendous. I took the plate off and tried to clean it myself, but I couldn’t get to it. I turned the system off, and I have a window unit that I dragged out and put in one window to make one room bearable. I called American Home Shield, and they took my information and looked to make sure I was active. They told me I would be getting a call from the contractor, then later that day, I got a contractor who called and set the appointment up. That was a Wednesday, and he showed up on Friday at the time that I was given. I was hot, so it did not quite meet my expectations. However, within two days, it was understandable with the situation that’s here. When the guy came in, he looked at the system and knew what the problem was. He cut the feed line, which had been piped in. He blew it out, and I hadn’t had a bit of trouble since.

    Whenever something has been broken or not working, it's been easy to submit a claim and get it fixed with AHS. I have that peace of mind knowing that that's there. We've used it and it's helped. So worth it to have it. They have good coverage and they're easy to work with. Our dishwasher was leaking recently. The puddle of water looked like it was coming from underneath the dishwasher. When the tech came out and looked at it, he checked underneath and it was dry under there. He said it was ‘cause the door was loose. He tightened the screws on the sides of the dishwasher door. He got right in and made sure that there was no leaking. It was good.

    All the time, the representatives are good when I talk to them, and I don't have a problem with them. The problem is the people who do the job. Silver Star was no good, and I don't recommend this company to anybody. The dishwasher was out, and when the guy came at the house, he looked at it and just touched it a little, but he didn't fix it. He didn't open the control panel.

    American Home Shield provided another company, and I like the guy who came. He was very professional. He asked me what the problem was, I explained them, then he started working. He opened the dishwasher and pulled out the control panel. He told me, “Jose, the control panel is out. This is why your machine doesn't work. This one needs to be replaced.” Now, I'm still waiting for the part, and American Home Shield doesn't respond because they said the part takes five to seven weeks. It's too long, and I’m not happy with that also. Even if you order the parts, you can have it in one to two weeks.

    I went online and opened up a claim saying that the bathroom tub faucet was leaking and wouldn't stop. The problem is still ongoing because it's not completely fixed. I contacted American Home Shield two days ago and Cal-Home Construction was to send a revised update on the repairs that are needed to permanently make the repair. But I have not heard anything from American Home Shield or Cal-Home Construction, and it's day three now. I'm still losing water. Our first couple of claims with American Home Shield have gone pretty smoothly and very quickly. But for some reason, the claim for our leaking faucet is really dragging on. This is the one that's really not leaving a good taste in my mouth about it.

    I've had American Home Shield for years on my property here and then I purchased the premium plan for the property in San Diego. I wanted to upgrade the present plan that I've had for eight years and they told me that I could only do it during your enrollment period. So I called July 6th or 7th for August 6th or 7th. Then yesterday, a woman called me and said, "I'm calling about your payment." I said, "What payment?" She said, "Your payment for your Home Shield." I said, "Well, why are you calling? It comes out automatically."

    She told me that it didn't come out automatically. I told her that it was supposed to come out automatically and on top of that, I upgraded. But she said, "I know nothing about a upgrade." I said, "You're not showing any type of upgrading in your system?" She said, "No." I said, "You're not showing nothing?" She said, "I show that we gave you a $150 discount." I told her, "You know why you gave me a $150 discount? Because I upgraded." But she told me that it wasn't done in their system. I asked her, "What does that mean? Aren't you kind of curious why I got a $150 discount?" She just said, "Hmm." At that point, I was livid. Then the rep said that I canceled my service. But I did not cancel my service. I upgraded my service. But she said, "Well, it says here canceled." I said, "If it says it's canceled, why are you calling me for a payment that I wouldn't have known anyway?" So I'm glad she called me.

    For my recent claim with AHS, I called the day that the problem started with our AC. But it took Greenway three weeks to come out. When they sent someone out, they came out three different times. The first guy came out and said that it had to do something with a capacitor. He said that he fixed it and left but the AC still wasn't working. I turned right around five minutes later when I saw him driving off, to try to catch Greenway to let them know it's still not blowing cold. They rescheduled for someone to come out almost a week later.

    That guy came out and tried to fix something. It still did not work. Now, I had to wait another three days. Nobody was really caring at Greenway. I had to call back four times to get a response. That went on for three weeks. As far as American Home Shield is concerned, they did as much as they can do and they could have done because they didn't have a direct way to fix my issue. But the overall experience was very bad and I never want to use Greenway again.

    My stove went out and I also had an issue with my ice maker. I called Home Shield and they were very nice. They said they would get on it immediately. Within a day, they had emailed me and showed me who the technician was coming out. They said he will give me a call. That evening, someone called me and said their tech would be out and asked what would be a good day for us.

    The Philtech tech came out that Thursday and he was very professional. He was able to fix my ice maker immediately. He then pulled the stove out and checked to see and make sure everything worked. It wouldn't register so he went behind and did some stuff. He pushed the stove back and he said he'd get back with me. He did just that and they got in touch with the Home Shield.

    The technician that came out for the AC was good. However, as far as the plan to move forward, I was highly disturbed by American Home Shield's salesperson coming out and giving me the pitch of what needed to be done, which was significantly expensive. From a replacement perspective, American Home Shield was only gonna give me $200 towards that. That wasn't going to help me at all given my monthly fees for American Home Shield. I've got a 19-year-old system and they want to repair versus replace it, but I'm still coming out of the pocket to repair it at $2,000. I would have rather put that 2,000 towards a replacement versus repair on a 19-year-old system.

    The air conditioning stopped working and for some reason, the condenser was not turning on. The first contractor that was assigned didn’t respond and it took about a week. I tried to call them and then, I ended up calling American Home Shield letting them know that the contractor isn't responding. So, they gave me another contractor who did a good job. AHS could probably give us options of different contractors and let us pick and choose which one we want to go with.

    My icemaker in the refrigerator was leaking and it didn't work properly. AHS ordered the parts, then two days later, the technician showed up and he found out what the problem was. He also replaced the icemaker. I like that I can call AHS up and they'll take care of whatever I need taken care of. Three years ago, they ended up replacing what I call my air conditioning unit, but it's not an air conditioning appliance, it's a heat pump. But they changed since they did that because they don't cover the Freon cost anymore, which I understand.

    I have had American Home Shield policies for maybe five years in two different properties, and the service has been amazing. I couldn't go with a different company. Knowing that for something to get fixed, you likely won't pay more than $100 for it. It's still a trusted company, so overall, the experience is still going to be good. Once you submit a service request, you'll get the company's phone number and name. A day or two after that, you'll know exactly who's coming and the timeframe. I had an AC repair claim. Ambient Air got out two days after I submitted the claim. It was super efficient and fast. They fixed the issue. They weren't even in the house for 30 minutes. Overall, AHS takes really good care of you.

    We had low water pressure and hardly any water was coming out of the faucet. Hicks & Sons came out and they were very knowledgeable. They cut a hole in the bottom of the brand-new cabinet to get to the water line and fixed it. It hasn't leaked since. We've had Hicks & Sons before and they fixed another problem we had. We've had a great experience with those people. Every time we've had them come out, they've done excellent work. The only problem I have on occasion with AHS is they have a lot of foreigners and I can't understand what they're saying. I'm 72 years old, I'm kind of hard of hearing. The interaction is good to the point because the people were fine but I can't understand them.

    I opened a service contract on July 23rd regarding my A/C unit. A new condenser unit was approved for purchase, or so I've been told. I've given the approval that I will cover out-of-pocket costs. Each time that I call to inquire if the unit is ordered, the representative tells me, "We don't have that answer from purchasing."     Original Review: Aug. 9, 2022

    I paid American Home Shield (AHS) $125 for a Garage Door Opener (GDO) Service Call; 1st appt "#1 GARAGE DOOR LLC ph. 407-601-0182" invoice for $350 or $700 (Repairs needed: Garage Door Balancing, Spring and Wheel Replacements due to lack of Maintenance). I called AHS to complain that the invoice listed repairs for everything but the GDO also, was verbally advised to order a motor. 2nd Appt "Ace's Garage Door Repair & Installation ph.407-457-7225" advised repairs would cost $750 no invoice left.(Repairs needed: Garage Door Balancing, Spring, Belt and Wheel Replacements). I contacted AHS and complained again about how both companies were advising repairs for everything but the covered GDO. Upon receiving the GDO Motor I again contacted AHS to find out who will put the motor in. I was advised I would need to pay another $125.

    A neighbor referred me to "Central Door of Winter Haven ph. (863) 324-3719" whom dispatched Rick to my home at no cost additionally there was no cost to fix my Garage Door Opener, Nothing was wrong with the GDO Motor, NO Balancing needed, the spring was fine. The suggestion to replace the wheels in the future (cause of jam). AGAIN it cost me nothing (ZERO Dollars). I contacted AHS multiple times advising of this information; nothing was done. Then I got an incoming call from AHS. I advised not to dispatch "#1 Garage Door LLC OR Ace's Garage Door Repair & Installation" for any repairs and they should consider Central Door of Winter Haven ph. (863) 324-3719 as a contractor. Each complaint call with AHS I advised I should not have to pay that $125, was told my complaint would be forwarded.

    Today I spoke with AHS "Ativa" as it's time for my AHS renewal. However, I do not find AHS standing by "Our Shield Assurances are always included, even in our base plans & Breakdowns caused by lack of maintenance." I have a brand new Motor that I do not need. I have been with AHS for about 3 Years. Up until now I have no complaints. But each AHS representative advised of escalation. The only representative I actually believe is Ativa.

    We have two air conditioning units. The first time a technician had to come out, we had to have a service request for each unit. I didn't know that so that was disappointing because they were already out here and both air conditioners needed the work done. The technician said to make sure to call in because if you do it online, it's just going to show that the unit one needs to be serviced again and he wouldn't be able to touch unit two. That was dumb. I had to pay $75 per time a technician came out and for them to come back out again. They also just put refrigerant in the unit, which was great, because it works fine now. But I had to pay an additional $300 for that. That aside the technicians were fine and they fixed the problem 30 minutes each time.

    The drain in my bathtub needed to be replaced and the contractor got the work done. Typically, when I put in a claim and American Home Shield tells me the company name, I will call the company and see if they received the request. At that point, they will tell me where I am on the schedule and if it isn't the next day, it is the day after. It was less than 48 hours when Draingo, the contractor, came. The repair guy had to purchase a part and it took him about 20 minutes. Once he came back with the part, it took 10 minutes.

    The process in terms of having to pay the service call upfront is what one has to do. I would have included both the panel on the refrigerator and the microwave because they were the same type of issue, but someone submitted the request to American Home Shield for me and they didn’t. The one thing I am not thrilled about that we couldn't go back and revise is that, “Well, can you just look at this as well? This is the same thing.” That didn't feel that great, especially because it was a GE specialist that came out, and the refrigerator and the microwave were both GE appliances. Plus, it was specifically the control panel on both.

    The control panel on the icemaker works 80% of the time, but then sometimes, it just starts blinking randomly and the icemaker won't do the ice. You got to wait. There's no rhyme or reason to it, and we weren't able to have the GE specialist look at it. If that's something that we can get waived, to have somebody come out and look at, at this point, I certainly would like that assessment. In terms of what the GE specialist was able to do though, the person came in, assessed things, and then repaired the microwave. So, it works fine.

    The AC went down and the guy that fixed it was very knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. He told me that something made the capacitor go bad. So, that was how thorough he was and he showed me. He had everything done inside of an hour. It took a week and a half to two weeks to get him down but it was really hot and a lot of AC was broken. So, it was understandable. He wasn't slow, he just had a lot of work.

    The booster pump was still working, but it was noisy. Then a few weeks ago, I got up and the main pump was making a horrible noise. I knew that meant the bearings are going bad. I called American Home Shield and it was very easy to get through. The person I had was easy to understand and this process was really good. It went very well. I called them on a Friday and then Shocker Pools came out the next Monday. They saw the problem, ordered the parts, and by Friday at noon, everything was back up and running. They ended up replacing both pumps. This time, I was very satisfied with American Home Shield. But a year ago, my hot water heater went out, and it took two weeks to get it replaced. I was very unhappy about that.

    For my recent claim with AHS, the air conditioner would not cool. The techs were able to find a leak in the system and they were able to repair that, charge it, and get it going. When they were troubleshooting it, their original determination was that the coil was bad and that the leak might be in a place where they would have to replace the whole outside unit. Through their troubleshooting, they were able to discover that it was a leak in a place that they could repair and they repaired it and it was all good. In the meantime, I got a message from AHS saying, "The determination is that the outside unit needs to be replaced. It is not covered. That'll be $600. It is wear and tear." I was very disappointed. Though it worked out okay in the end, it diminishes my trust in the American Shield and that anything that goes bad is going to be determined as normal wear and tear and I won't be covered and I'm paying for nothing.

    I really appreciated American Home Shield’s service this year. I have invested in this since I bought the house five years ago and have used it on a couple of occasions. This summer, I've had two incidences where AHS had just kicked in big time. I had a bad leak under the sink because my garbage disposal went out, and somebody came and replaced it. I had a 35-year-old dryer that had a plastic part that started breaking after 35 years, and it was snagging my clothes. So, we looked for the replacement part, and it could not be found. AHS said, “Well, get a new dryer.” So twice this summer, I’ve used it in a really big way.

    SWAT Plumbing was awesome. I was leaving town, and my niece was here staying at the house. SWAT was in the area. They came with exactly the right thing to replace it, and their customer service was outstanding. Overall, I could have used a little more information on the replacement program for the dryer. AHS sent me good information and I did choose an upscaled dryer and paid the difference. I was very happy with what they provided in terms of options and the amount that they were willing to provide for the replacement. I have no questions there. It's just you have to be a smart consumer. I hadn’t bought a dryer in 35 years. So, when I picked out the dryer, I went with the specifications that were listed, and it clearly says the front door is reversible. I wanted it to open in a certain way because of the configuration of the room, and it doesn’t. That’s a Maytag description problem though.

    The other thing that was a little bit of a surprise to me was because I haven’t bought one in so long, the delivery company brings the machine and they didn't bring the cord for the machine. We couldn’t plug it in to see if it worked because that’s not part of what they provide. So, now I’ve learned by reading online that a lot of manufacturers are doing this because they don’t know if your home is gonna have a three-prong plug or a four-prong plug. It's just when American Home Shield said, “We're paying for your new machine and for installation,” I thought that meant I'd be able to turn it on.

    When I called American Home Shield, I said, ”Guess what? These machines don’t come with electrical cords. And so, it’s not installed." The guy was great. He said, “We’re gonna get somebody out there to install it.” The company's communications were not great though. They didn’t contact me within 24 hours. I tried to leave messages for them, but the voicemail box was full. It said, “Do you want to send a text with our phone number as an SMS message?” Yesterday, the guy did try to call me back and I happened to be in church and my phone was off, so I didn’t hear it but we connected yesterday afternoon.

    Calling that company is a problem. You call and the voicemail is full. Sometimes, when he called me back, the noise on the line was such that I couldn’t hear him. So, I was a little apprehensive when the guy came this morning but he was clean, quick, polite and efficient. He knew his stuff. So, I have to give them a wonderful recommendation based on the actual service. The contact was a little sketchy but the actual serviceman was fabulous.

    There was water leaking on the floor from the refrigerator and the technician from Laha's Appliance Repair came as soon as they got the call. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I told him what was going on and he listened carefully. Then, he looked at the refrigerator and found out that there was ice in the bottom of the freezer, indicating that the frost water was pooling there. He said that was fairly common and that he had seen it before. Apparently, the drain was clogged and water would run out through the door and along the side, and leak on the floor. And we have hardwood floors, so that was the concern. I have an engineering background and I don't know refrigerators, but it all made sense because he analyzed what was going on, then he showed and told me about it.

    Then he left with the promise that he would get the parts ordered. He said we needed a new drain hose, then he suggested getting a new door gasket because of the age of the refrigerator. I said that sounded good and he told me that I should hear from them in a week or two. He also said I should feel free to call if I didn't. That was back in early May and since then, I couldn't get ahold of the contractor. I called American Home Shield and the person would apologize and say that they were going to follow up, but I never got follow-up calls. Finally, at the beginning of July, my issue got escalated and I got a different contractor. Their guy came immediately, fixed it, and it was all done very quickly. So, the lag in there wasn't great but in the end, the result was very good.

    I also had a claim for the microwave that stopped working completely. It would sound like it was running, but it wouldn't heat. American Home Shield got a different contractor to come and look at it and that was handled flawlessly. They came within a day or two and ordered the parts. As soon as the parts came in, they called me to let me know.

    Mr. Rooter did the bathtub. They came in and did what they said they were supposed to do. But I’ve had problems with it in the past. It has been eight months since the last time we’ve had to do this. I assumed that it was hair from my daughter that was clogging it up and slowing it down. But the tech showed me exactly those old metal pipes. They started corroding from the inside. And he said it makes it to where they don’t drain as well. He told me that it needed to be replaced with PVC so it would get fixed. But he said all that he could do right then was to run that thing through there. And he said that if I continue to have problems with it, I should turn it back in. It’s not draining as fast as it once drained, but now it does drain. And it’s draining faster than it was draining before the Mr. Rooter came.

    The company that American Home Shield sent out finally for the stove was satisfactory but the home warranty in itself is very disorganized and they're not clear with their warranties, stipulations, and policies. I had to call AHS several times and keep up on it just to have them send the order to the company to the technician to have him come out. They kept saying they sent the order to them. So, I would call him and he would say he never got it. So, it's just back and forth, trying to get them to do what they said they were going to do. And eventually, it went through.

    We thought that it would be easier to have things replaced under AHS and repaired. But it's never been an easy experience. We have two homes that are under American Home Shield and we are in the process of canceling our membership with them in the next month or so. I have to do their job for them and they negate on things that they said they would do and they don't do. We had an air conditioning unit in Georgia and our original warranty plan was that, if the air conditioning went out, that they would replace it. And all they kept doing was sending technicians out and putting band-aid upon band-aid on something that should have been replaced years ago.

    I had someone out for the AC unit for a basic checkup. The dude from Young Mechanical informed me he made sure everything was running well. He was awesome. But when I call AHS for a claim, I stay on hold for a long time, which is not amazing. I can do the claim online but for example, if I have two issues I want someone to look at, I have to call and wait on hold for 30 minutes to get someone from AHS. The contractor can do multiple issues, but they can't work on a ticket unless AHS has it in their ticket.

    Sometimes I have trouble with the claims representatives. Some of them try to help me but some of them don't care. They aren't helpful. I won't get American Home Shield again. They pay $10 on freon which is embarrassing. Freon runs well over $100, sometimes $200 a pound. I’ll go with another one that pays on freon. Also, American Home Shield has gotten pricey. There are a couple of other warranty companies that offer that aren't more expensive. I had a claim last year and it was heating and air. It took American Home Shield six months to get somebody out there. They had sent somebody out there but they fired him. Then they assigned it to another person. The claim was turned in in October, and it didn't get resolved until May. That was horrible. But the guys that have come out before were good. They always get me taken care of.

    Comfort First Heating came out and they were good. I called them on a weekend so they didn't get in until Monday. It wasn't emergent so they were on time. Nobody has beaten American Home Shield outright. I picked up a different one that would repair everything with my refrigerator freezer because they don't repair ice machines. But AHS has replaced several appliances as well as condensers and compressors for the AC system at least twice over the years. My neighbors picked up AHS too because of me.     Recently, I started noticing a little bit of water under this sink and realized that it was coming from the disposal when it was on. I called AHS and Professional Plumbing came out. The tech had to replace the disposal. He was fine. He had one with him. So, he didn't have to go someplace to get it. He put it in right away and it didn't take him very long. It's working fine now. We've had good luck with AHS. This is the fourth call we've used them. The first one, we had moved in and the disposal was not working. The guy fixed it and showed us what to do if we ever had a problem with it like that again. We also had an electrician out one time and he was awesome, too.

    American Home Shield has been trying to collect $100 from me for a claim that I already paid. First, they sent Austin Heating & Air and then, Austin Heating & Air wanted me to wait seven days for them to come back again to fix the AC. My renter couldn’t wait that long, because we had triple digits, and he was staying at a motel. And this guy wanted me to pay another $100 service fee for Air Solutions. I asked why. AHS offered to give me $100 credit to cover the other service fee from Air Solutions and I don’t know why. I called them in the past, and they said they already clarified it, it's in my notes, and not to worry about it. But they keep trying to charge me $100 more. But the contractor did excellent service. They replaced the capacitor. The guy fixed it right away and didn’t have to go anywhere. At the very beginning, AHS wasn’t that professional. But lately, they’ve improved the service.

    The AC unit for the upstairs was running all the time and I wanted it checked out. Last year, AHS sent someone out and the person had to add refrigerant to that unit. So, I was suspecting that might be the case again, but apparently, that was not the case. The young man who came out this time was very nice and he said that the cooling units on the outside collected some dust. He said they needed to be periodically cleaned out so, he took the covers off and cleaned them out. The unit seems to be working better since the repair. I also had another issue just before that about our hot water heater that had gone out and it took six weeks to get that done. The plumber that AHS assigned to the job asked me to take photographs of the existing hot water heater, which I did, but the insurance company still ordered the wrong water heater.

We took time off from work and we were waiting for the technician to come out. But he never did and they didn't email us till Sunday. I would have liked to be notified the day of.

    There was a pipe that was not connected correctly and it leaked everywhere. We didn't know that it was leaking ‘cause of the position of the pipe.     A service guy came out and checked a few things. He was personable and he knew what he was talking about. Went right to the unit and did a few things near the unit outside to make sure there was no problem with growth from some plants. It turned out that wasn't the issue. He cleaned the unit out and he did everything he could think of. He felt like it wasn't the AC particularly.

    Our unit is still not working. The service guy told us at that time that maybe it could be the breaker panel because it keeps turning off. We have to keep hitting the breaker. He suggested that if it continues, we were to call an electrician. I'm waiting on one now. This claim has been going on for a couple of weeks. When the unit was not working after three or four days, we emailed Home Shield on a weekend and they got back to my husband on a Monday. It's only been this week that we've reached out to them through that.

    American Home Shield is fairly quick at responding and usually gets somebody within a few days. Everybody that's come out for different things in our house has been fine. They're professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. When they come out, they're great depending on the situation. We had a problem with our AC a couple of years ago. It was bad and it took three or four weeks before it was resolved and it was about 100 in Florida. Another time there was a claim for a washing machine and that was a major problem. I went out and bought another one because I didn't want to hassle with Home Shield. It wasn't their fault.     Overall, American Home Shield is good. We get an understanding of what the issue is for $75 then make a decision as to what are the next steps. The downside is that we don't always get the same companies. We don't know who we're gonna get, and it's hit and miss. We had one which was horrible. The guy showed up late, and he was illiterate and rude. This most recent one was excellent though. We had a leaky pipe in the garage, and the fellow came in and fixed it. They came in twice. Once to evaluate it, then they came back. Unfortunately, for him, he was working until 6 o'clock on a Saturday night.

    The service with American Home Shield is pretty good. There's just something that I would like to see changed. They need some kind of amendment because sometimes you got to wait for a particular contractor to call you back. I got a plumbing problem. American Home Shield is doing all they possibly can. I understand that but they should be able to send another technician to handle my problem instead of me waiting for this one person.

    DMV came out, initially, and they looked at my leak. They said, “Okay. What you need is you need a special filter and you need a new garbage disposal.” So, I bought a new garbage disposal and I ordered this special filter, and they said, “Okay, if you call us back before 30, then what's going to happen is that you don't have to pay the service charge for them to come back out.” I've been trying to get with them and I haven't been able to get with them.

    I was seeing a puddle on my kitchen floor. I called my American Home Shield and told them what the problem was. They gave me the contractor's name and phone number. They came out at the time that they said and fixed my problem on the same day. I was in the kitchen when the technician was doing it and he showed me what he was doing and where a lot of the water had accumulated under one of the baskets there. He thoroughly explained it. So far, I haven't noticed any more leaks or puddles.

    I've been real satisfied with American Home Shield. I've been with them for a long time and I don't have any problems with the guys that they have sent out to do the repair. Sometimes I have a problem with the time frames. But I had a problem when I called American Home Shield. I talked to a girl and she said she was from the Philippines. She has such an accent. She spoke pretty good English, but for me, I could not understand her. I kept asking her over and over about my appliances and what was gonna be covered. She tried her best but I just couldn't. I see that so much now that they have foreigners that are answering the phones and sometimes, it's not real clear. The claims process takes a long time and it's not as smooth as what I would like it to be. But as far as the work, it's been to my satisfactory.

He kind of pulled it apart and found out that it needed some shocks and that the tank wasn't holding its balance. So, that's why it was kind of wobbling all over the place.     American Home Shield offered a better value. So far, so good. On the website, I followed the directions. It submitted the claim. AHS sent an email and that gave us a number for Air Design. We called them and they said someone would be out. Someone came out the day they told us they would be. He told us that he would have to order a part. And as soon as that part came in, he would be back to complete the job. It was a small part that needed to be put in there in order for the air to jump on. My system goes from heating to air all in one. So, it was a little switch that would take it from the heat to the air condition that had gone out. That was what he replaced.

    The compressor broke down and the techs came out and looked at it. American Home Shield said they wanted somebody else to come out and look at it.     When our hot water heater was leaking, we paid the $75 fee for somebody to come out and look at it. American Home Shield sent out a contractor they work with. The gentleman did a great job. He was able to get it repaired for us. So it was a good experience. But I did find it tedious that I needed to take my phone and film the problem and then have the interaction recorded for the agent to be able to relay it to the contractor. I haven't done that before, so that was a little challenging. I would have rather just been able to call and say, “Hey, I have a problem. Send the contractor. Have them look at it.” But other than that, it was fine.

    So far, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I am just having trouble with one of the service requests I made. I have a service request open on July the 5th and after about two weeks, a technician came to my place. He saw the problem that was related to my ceiling fans.     We cooked in our wall oven for the first time in July. When we used it, it wouldn’t turn off and it kept getting hotter and hotter. I was afraid it was gonna burn the house down. I called American Home Shield and they had a contractor check on it. I called on a Thursday and they came out that Monday. The tech was on time and very polite. He said I was gonna need a new oven. He explained the F2 code. It means that something was going on in the system. Since it was an older oven, they don't make anything to replace that. So, he said he was gonna tell AHS it was not fixable. Now, we have a new oven and all I had to pay was the service fee for the guy to come out. I've told everybody to get American Home Shield as soon as they buy their house.

    A contractor came out and serviced my air conditioner. With American Home Shield, it seems there's always going to be an additional cost to me besides the $75 service call fee. Also, American Home Shield needs some more minority people in their network. Recently, my sump pump and my water heater went out. When the guy called to say he was on his way, he called thinking he was calling another client. Then the office called and said that my technician was on the way. When he came, he looked at the sump pump and saw that there was some mold down there. He said, "I can't be here." He never looked at the water heater. I had to have someone come look at the water heater. They couldn't get it lit. I was wondering do I pay another $75 to American Home Shield for someone to come to look at it again. He did nothing. He was whiny and complaining. I don't want him to be ever sent back.

    I was going to call American Home Shield today to find out what's going on with my claim. They were supposed to call me back. They told me that it was going to be taken care of because I wasn't sure if it was covered. The girl checked, and she said it is covered. They sent some electrical company out and they sent their review to AHS, and they came back and said it's not covered. They haven’t done anything. So, I'm not a happy camper.

    I've referred AHS to three separate people. One of them is a personal friend of mine, and she had called them out because her washing machine was messed up. The guy came out and told them that it was the transmission, and then they said they wouldn't cover it. So, she's not happy, and I'm not happy that that's embarrassing to me.     American Home Shield's service is expensive every month, but I had to have my built-in refrigerator fixed and it covered that, which I was very happy about. I just scheduled the appointment and the guys showed up and took care of it. They were very good and I'd use them again. They had to get parts specifically for that unit and that took a little while. When they first came out, we went on vacation and we were gone for 10 days. Then we came back on a Thursday night and they were there on Friday to fix it.

    Other than that, the video claim thing helps a lot by showing what's the make and model of the appliance I'm having issues with. Several years ago, the first time we had someone come out, I told them what kind of a refrigerator we had, but they didn't ask whether it was built in or not. So when they came out, that was when they saw it and they said they didn't work on built-ins. So, we had to go through AHS and get another contractor to come out that did work on built-ins.

    When I closed the door on my dryer, it was not spinning. It wasn't drying properly, and my middle washer agitated. I called American Home Shield on the phone and waited, then the rep came on. It wasn't stressful as they usually are. I got a claim number then the representative from the repair company called and let me know the appointment date and that I will hear from them the day before. When the repairman came, my middle washer started working right. With the dryer, he shared with me the part that was broken, and he fixed it. My washer and dryer are both working fine now.

    I've had other products repaired in my home too. I have a big home, and I left sears many years ago to come to American Home Shield. I recommended a lot of people to them as well, but during this COVID time, I didn't like the treatment that they gave me. I made several calls, and I had to be on hold for almost 45 minutes to an hour and a half sometimes. Also, they were not documenting stuff properly, and they were dishonest. They tell me one thing, but when I call back, it's a different story. American Home Shield was lousy and let me down a lot, so I'm not crazy about them and I stopped recommending them. Lately, they've been trying to pick up, but sears has a nice package out now.

The capacitor recently went out on our AC and we waited for a week for the techs to come. But I know that at this time of the year, when it's 100 degrees out, everybody's backed up.     I sent in a claim when our air conditioner stopped working. It went smoothly. I went online and requested service. Then they gave me the name of somebody that was supposed to contact me. They called to schedule the time to come out. The tech found the problem quickly. He had the part on his truck and he changed the part out and I had air conditioning again. So I was happy.

    There was leakage in the main bedroom and the hot water heater is in a particular closet in that main bedroom. So when the techs came out, they said there was some pan that was full. And they had to drain the water to stop the leak. They ended up having to turn the AC off to prevent the leakage in the bedroom because there had been four leaks. And while they were out there, the plumber mentioned something about the hot water heater. I then called back and got another claim for them to come back out and look at that. It was going to take over a week for them to come back but my brother-in-law called to see if they could speed it up because my sister was due to deliver any day, it was hot in the house, and it was uncomfortable. So they came out the very next day. They were on time and did everything they needed to do.

    I was highly dissatisfied with American Home Shield. Whenever I would put in a request for a work order, 9 out of 10 times, they would tell me that the item is not covered. It's not like I call every month. I was wasting money so I canceled it. It wasn't serving a purpose for me to continue working. I had issues in the past with the ceiling fan, my light fixture outside, the doorbell and the lights over my sink and outlets. They just said it wasn't covered under the contract and I was paying close to $100 a month. So, I'll just pay out of pocket. AHS should cover what they say they're going to cover because the contract makes it appear as if it weren't covered. Also, the people that they have contracted, some were good but then some would put you off forever. And you need the person to come on and fix it if you have something broken down, not wait a week or two.

    The techs were backlogged and when they were finally able to come out, they said I needed a replacement part and that I should have it the next day. But it ended up being a week later, which was fine. That week, they came back out. I wasn't at the house, so they gave me time to get there. So, I did appreciated that. And the serviceman was really good. He replaced a part, walked me through every step of the way, and was very personable. At the end of the day, the service took a while, but I was happy that the issue got fixed. AHS should lower their price though.

    I've been able to use AHS a couple of times and it's worked out pretty well. Everything was also good as far as getting ahold of someone. For our recent claim, the air handler in the unit was humming and it was kicking off. It wouldn’t start up. So it was getting hot in there. It was calling for cold air and it wouldn't turn on. It was a problem that was intermittent. The tech just happened to check by just bumping the parts, and then it acted up and that gave him a clue of which part was bad. He did a good job of finding out what was bad. He got the right part replaced.

    The air conditioning system went down, submitted a request on the AHS website. Initially, they referred another company, but that company had some pretty horrible reviews online. I had already used Eagles once through American Home Shield. I knew that they were good, so I just called to ask them if they could change the vendor to Eagles. The owner of the company was great. Answered his phone right away and made a plan to come out the next morning.

    AHS has got to stop recommending vendors that have bad reviews. They needed to do a better job picking their vendors. The second thing is, we just got a price increase. Got a letter. Maybe there could be better communication around that. There's a lot of fine print and a lot of stuff that's not covered that you would think would be covered. Maybe they could clean that up a little bit and not make it so strict sometimes.

    I had a refrigeration problem and the first contractor didn't work out. The tech would always say it couldn’t be done and the insurance does not cover. But I called American Home Shield and they said they would send another contractor. That second contractor did a good job. They were able to fix the issue for me. Still, AHS should rate their vendors and send the right one at first. But I was given a refund for the fee. When the first contractor showed up, the charge was $100. But because the guy didn’t do any work, when I called AHS, I got a refund right away.

    My AC wasn't cooling. I called American Home Shield and I was assigned a company. But their hours were 10:00 to 2:00 and it didn't work well for me. I'm a teacher. I spoke to the reps about a preferred company. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about their services and the other providers in my area. They processed the preferred company through their system. That company got out and took care of the issue. It took a while to get the actual service scheduled because they were backed up. It was when we had the really hot weather back in May. In the end, the service was good. They checked everything, blew everything out, and the AC is working fine. They suggested that in the future, I may need a refrigerant fill.

    Our clothes dryer wouldn't come on, and the day after I submitted the claim online, someone came out and diagnosed the problem. The part was ordered, and it was in within a couple of days. The repair people came back, repaired our clothes dryer, and everything was fine. This is only the second service I've had with American Home Shield, but so far, both services have been satisfactory, and the timeframe, and how it was handled. One part is not satisfactory though. AHS keeps going up on the price too much. The second year I had them, the price took a huge jump from I paid originally. I called them and got no satisfaction. This year, it has gone up twice, and they didn't notify me. Not one time have they ever sent me an email or called. It just showed up on my credit card, and that's a big downside.
