    I like the services that American Home Shield has been providing and I’ve had several claims with them. I had one for my dishwasher and for electric. That took forever and I had to eventually resolve that on my own, even though several different companies had come out. One thing that guys from the service companies did not want to do was to go up in my attic and that was where the problem was at. I had to hire a guy on my own to get that electrical issue fixed now. Their guy went to the attic to fix things.

    The last service I received in my Virginia home was about my air conditioner thermostat and that was done quickly and reasonably. I was really happy with them. The professionalism was very much there. The techs went as far as to check my system to see if there would be any more problems or potentially any more problems. They told me that it was gonna take so many hours for my house to cool to a reasonable temperature and I appreciated that. They provided a good service. In general, American Home Shield's coverage is good. I recommended it to my brother in North Carolina who signed up and got the service.

    Repair people came out for my AC and what needed to be done was coolant needed to be added. That was not covered under American Home Shield so I took care of that myself. That is on top of paying the $125 fee.

    I’ve had a good experience where the contractor would come out within 24 hours and things are done the way they're supposed to be done. But I've had the other way where American Home Shield couldn't find anybody and it would take a while for them to get back to us. I had a situation where my water heater broke and when we got home, there was a lot of water gushing out of our garage door and the side door. We panicked and went to the garage, and my husband started to open the thing where the water heater was. There was a ton of water. I had no idea they carried that much water.

    My neighbor said he had a guy who could come out and help. It happened so fast and after I processed everything, I reached out to AHS and told them what happened. I said I had my receipt for how much I paid for everything and that if they could help me, that would be great. They told me to send an email to them but they never even said they received my email. I ended up having to replace my water heater on my own and I never heard back from them regarding that.

    Just recently, the tech from Coastal Pool Repair is very professional. I've done two work orders and he’s prompt. As soon as he receives the work order, he will send out a text to me asking what's going on and saying he will be here in the morning. And sure enough, he's here. He'll send me a picture that it's done. And it's done. And we haven't had any more issues. Up until this last time with the water heater situation where American Home Shield ignored me, they have been good.

    Recently, our icemaker and water dispenser were not working. The tech was on time. He saw what the problem was and did something to fix it. AHS came through except on one issue that I had. We had a big refrigerator freezer. They could not fix it so they gave me a $3,000 offer to replace it. But the refrigerator that I had was a $12,000 unit. So, that didn't work too well. But, we extended our limit on that and the rest is history.

    I’ve worked on my pool for a while now and the salt generator wasn’t working. It wasn’t converting the salt water into chlorine and wasn’t registering. When the pool company came out, they started documenting other things that were wrong and nothing about it. So, the claim was denied. I called American Home Shield, got somebody outside the country that could barely speak English and said that it was based on what the technician said and it’s too bad.

    I had to call the pool company and the rep said they closed it because it needed more salt. But the salt is not even turning on. It was a big fiasco. Finally, I raised enough hell to where the rep told me to drain my pool a little bit and get the salt level down. I asked if they didn’t have a tester. I knew more about it than they did. It was a long drawn-out process. At the end of the day, if I would have never called back and just took it, it would have probably cost me another grand. But it’s typical. Ultimately, I see the value in American Home Shield but you can't ever talk to anybody. If you want to escalate something, you just can't.

    A very nice gentleman came out for a claim I had and he said he repaired the issues that were going on but they were only partially repaired. There were two issues. There was a broken door and a broken interior door. That was causing difficulty with the ice maker. Only the exterior door was repaired. I need to make another appointment because my unit wasn't fixed properly on the first go.

    American Home Shield’s service has been all right. It just takes a little bit of time to get an appointment for anything that has been broken in the house. Also, I wasn't familiar that there would be a per service deductible outside of the monthly charge. That was surprising. It was not disclosed in my signup documents. It would have been helpful if they were transparent with that. The deductible is $125 for the service visit. When we got the bill for what was fixed, it was only 160. The insurance is only covering $40 of that. Another thing is if there's earlier availability of appointments or an increased availability of their contractors that they used, that would be very helpful as well.

    I had Sears and Sears is better than American Home Shield. I didn't have a deductible with Sears. If you have more than one of the same appliance, you could do yearly maintenance checks to make sure nothing was wrong. American Home Shield does not do that. They only come out if something's broken. Also, American Home Shield doesn't cover deep freezers and window air conditioners. But when I had their contractor come out and check the hot water heater and the washing machine, they didn't take too long to get there and weren't there that long. Each time was 10 minutes and they were finished.

    The AC wasn’t giving us cold air so we didn’t know what was going on. The tech came in, turned it on and it still wasn’t working. It turned out the breaker has been turned off by accident somehow. We turned it on and the tech also checked everything for us to make sure that everything was functioning well since he was here like a regular service. He was helpful and nice.

    An outlet didn't work and when I made claim with AHS, they were very good. We feel comfortable about all our appliances since we had the warranty but we had a lot of trouble this last time getting somebody to come. At first, they had somebody from Right Way who came and we weren't happy because they didn't really know what the problem was. We asked for a second opinion and we waited and waited for a second opinion person to come. My husband had to call three times to get them to come and to wait that long was very inconvenient. But when they came after over a week, they got the issue fixed right away.

    We also had a problem with an outlet that was between the living room and the bedroom, and the bedroom has a problem with the overhead ceiling fan. It worked sometimes, then at other times, it didn't work. It was working when the techs came and now it's not working. So it's kind of a mystery what we need to do next and the problem is really not completely resolved.

    I had two air conditioning guys come but they couldn't figure it out. I did everything they said to do. Then the electrical guy came and he said it was not an electrical issue. But he took a picture of the air conditioning unit that had a frosted over part on it and said that it was clearly the issue. He asked why the techs didn't find it and I said I don't know. The air conditioning works, it's just the breaker flips all the time so, it stops working and I have to flip the breaker back. They can't figure out why the breaker's not flipping. So, it's incredibly frustrating.

    I have another air conditioning guy coming out tomorrow. I had to send a picture to them and the warranty company gives me the runaround. I have to sit on hold forever and I have to listen to the music. My biggest complaint with American Home Shield is that people don't speak English and they can't help me. I sit on the phone with them forever, and they blame everything on their other department in their company. I said they’re in the same company and to call them. They said they couldn’t do that. They do the process and send them an email.

    MS Services came for an AC unit that was not working. The guys seemed to know what they were doing. I was satisfied with the fix they did, but the actual problem was something else. They fixed a part and technically, that should have fixed the problem. But it didn't fix the problem because the unit itself is old. I had to follow up on somebody to come back and take a look at it again for a few times. I wasn’t getting direct, clear-cut next steps.

    I'm handy around the house. Plumbing, electricity and all that. But we're busy people so I don't have time for it. And if I need parts, especially for air conditioning, they don't just sell them off the shelf. That's where American Home Shield comes in handy. And I like the records tracking. So if we sell the house someday, I can say, “Here's all the service that’s been done, new up to X.” We've had a garbage disposal put in, and a couple of faucets fixed. A contractor came out for the heater one time. For the air conditioning, two times. We even got our washer and dryer on there. We've gotten our money's worth. You pay a plumber, it's 70 to 80 bucks an hour. It’s a minimum two hours kind of thing.

    AHS has up to 24 hours to find you somebody. It takes longer than I would like, but they still beat the 24 hours. They tell me the company, email, website and a phone number. And they say, “If they don't contact you in three days or something, then you can contact them.” I would just wait, and usually, they call within a day after being assigned. A day or two was the max. Whoever makes their appointments call me up.

    We had a claim a couple of years back for the AC. It was the circuit board. So, I went out and checked it. It went out on a Tuesday when it was 114 for three days in a row. I was spraying water on the AC and checked it out, and ended up being the contactor fried. It just fried the wire. The tech said it was still good. But it fried because I wasn't cleaning it properly on the one side where the fins are in the grate.

    To do that, I have to take off the cover and shut off the power. I didn't know to do that. So I would clean the other three sides. But he said it was all cruddy in there. So, he took a meter to it, and said that after it was cleaned, it dropped 10 amps of usage. What had happened was it was pulling extra amps, got too hot, and burned those wires up. And with those 114 degree days, we didn’t shut it off. So I couldn't wait because it was like a five-day wait, and it's still 100 degrees in the house, so we went to a hotel for one night and went back out there. I’m an aircraft mechanic by trade so I actually found the problem and rewired it and had it working.

    I didn't know why it burned up but I knew how to repair wires so I still had him come out. He said, “Okay. Great job on the wiring.” He helped me clean out and showed me how to clean it properly in the future as a prevention method, which was awesome. He explained the whole thing. And we could talk the same language, we're both electricians, and our fields are very similar. He was able to break it down for me. And it was a good experience. The one thing I wish he would have put in the statement was the wire did fry. Because when you look at it, it says nothing was found, that it was just dirty.

    We've made some adjustments to the plan this last year to where it's a higher deductible but it keeps the monthly cost down. I realized we could make the monthly cost lower. It's only 40 bucks a month. And each instance is 125. We used it very much the first two years, cross our fingers, so we're hopefully using it less frequent. So, the higher premium for each instance is worth it.

    We called AHS regarding our home fan. The techs went up into our attic and found that the fan had been set to some temperature, like, 115. They fixed it. It all happened very quickly. What I like about having AHS is that I don't have to pay a whole lot of money to have things fixed. What I don't like about it is, that we have another claim out right now and they set us up with a company that is an hour and a half away, instead of setting us up with a company that is within 10 miles of our home. So, the company that's far away doesn't come to our area very often. They recently canceled their appointment because of a family emergency and it meant rescheduling. It was a big deal because my husband was there specifically for that reason and now has to make plans for another time to do the same thing.

    When we called, American Home Shield sent somebody out. What I wasn't happy with was the end result. We have a problem with the way the water tastes coming out of the refrigerator even with the new filter. The technician put a report in, but we never heard from anyone, including American Home Shield. I finally had a call three weeks later to be told that the technician didn't see anything wrong. The water still tastes horrible, and we never got a follow-up phone call. We had used American Home Shield on another claim. The first technician that came out never submitted the report. They had to send a new technician and didn't charge us for that. They did a good job after that.

    I had a service I was provided and I am still having issues. I paid for someone to come out, which is the service fee of $100, and they came out unprepared with the proper equipment. I was told it was because American Home Shield did not specify what I had specified through American Home Shield for them to come out and do. I also had an AC issue and I called AHS for it. It was very easy to get through to them. Their rep told me about the contractor that was coming out and the date and time. The AC guys came in, did what they needed to do, and they moved rather quickly, and I haven't had any issues with my AC since they fixed it. So far, with American Home Shield, I have not had any issues as far as calling them to do a request.

    AHS has been responsive. There is a delay and that's just the times we live in, from calling in with a repair request and getting somebody out to the property. Our air conditioning went out on the hottest day of the summer and the vendor couldn't come out until four days later. Asked if we could get another vendor from the ones that they have and was told that it's about that type of delay. It is what it is, but when you're in 100-degree heat and you got no AC, that's a problem. But the techs I've worked with have been good.

    My first claim experience with American Home Shield was not good because they said that it wouldn't be covered. So, I needed to fix it. It was fixed outside of American Home Shield. The plumbing issue was still there. I tried to call the original plumbing people, but they didn't come and fix it. So, I had to get another plumbing person to come in. It wasn't American Home Shield’s fault, but it was whoever the plumber that we worked with.

    We had our garbage disposal changed and it was horrible. It was cheap and loud. So we bought our own and had someone else put it in. Then we had a claim for the water heater, which was awesome. We had our heater in our house went out, and it took a month, but it was because of the backlog of getting Chips to fix it. But the contractor did a beautiful job. They had to come back four times because they fixed it and it went out again right away.

    We requested repair and American Home Shield jerked around for about five days. I called two or three times and they said nobody was available. I had already talked to R & T Mechanical because they had done it before through American Home Shield. They said they had an open schedule and I would just need to give them the number and they would know. I called customer service and I told them what R & T Mechanical said. They told me that they were not in my area. I understood that but nobody else is in my area. They're the closest and less than an hour away. About a day and a half later, they finally got approval after R & T Mechanical called the home warranty field rep and asked why they could not get the deal. I was trying really hard and I called three or four times.

    Once they got the approval, R & T was there that day. It was then on American Home Shield. It was seven days and it was longer than it should have been when I was already giving them a vendor that they could use that's in their system. They just wouldn't look up the difference in mileage or area. It was frustrating on the side of American Home Shield. I just wish they’d listen more. R & T Mechanical, on the other hand, was awesome. The last few times we called, they've been Johnny-on-the-spot. They took care of business and did what they needed to do. They were really respectful too.

    My stove went out. The tech that AHS sent came out and he said that I needed a new one. However, the day that they came to put it in, they didn't have everything that they needed to put in. That left me without anything to cook on for my family for almost a week. They came out on Thursday and they couldn't come back out until that Tuesday. I called and I didn't appreciate that because I paid for a deductible. I don't think that was fair for me because I didn't think I got the service that I was supposed to have got.

    Bad enough I waited a whole week for them to bring the stove out and then they still couldn't put it up. So now, I gotta wait a few more days. They said in my contract that it should have been within five to seven days of me putting in that request that it was supposed to have been done. So why did I still get charged when I didn't get the service that I was paying for? I had to keep calling customer service. The one person that I talked to, didn't get anybody on that service line either. So, it went unanswered until they found when they could get back out there.

    It took a while for the techs to finally discover what was causing the air conditioning problem. It was three visits before, so there was a lot of waiting in the heat. They thought they had it fixed and when they left, it worked for an hour or so. It's a problem when they're not able to stay long enough to know if it's working. Finally, after the third visit, they decided that it was a part. They had to wait to order the part. I should not have to wait too many days before they come back. And this last time, I should be able to call by either that evening, which I sometimes did, or the next day. But then, they've got their schedule, too, so it might be into the next week. That should be first on the list, especially after it wasn't fixed, at least by the second time.

    Once, I said that I called American Home Shield and told them the problem. But the contractor said that they didn’t have verification from them that they could go out. So, that was not a good situation. And it's not their fault, because they were the ones that fix it eventually. They do good work and that's fine, but it was on the home warranty's end.

    In May, we were trying to get our garage door opener fixed. A person come out and said he was gonna have to order a part. But a few months later, still no part. They gave me different stories. One was because of the supply problem and another was because of the war in Ukraine. I got tired of waiting so I paid out of pocket to get it fixed. I also had a claim for our air conditioner and the contractor that came out said, "It's working. We can't fix it." I told them that it was making a clicking noise. But they said as long as it's working, they can't do anything to it. I didn't like anything about American Home Shield's service so I got rid of them.

    The AC was leaking water from the top. The techs have been out four times since the call went in. But it was working 10 minutes before the tech came back. When he blew it out, somehow all of the Freon in the unit was out. Two hours after he leaves, I had no air conditioning. They had to come back again and a different guy found the leak. That cost me 450 bucks for the Freon. I asked for the same guy to come back again because the AC was leaking again from the top. This time, he cleaned the whole thing out. As of yesterday, it's working fine.

    I like that with AHS, the service costs me 100 bucks except in this case when we had to pay 450 for the Freon. The first guy was a little pushy though and I believe that he caused the problem that they say he didn’t. But how do I go from full Freon in the air conditioning to no Freon in a span of three hours, and the only person that was up in my attic playing with it was him? Other than that, the second guy was really nice.

    We like American Home Shield because we rent our house out. So, if there are any issues with any systems, we call them up and they get someone quickly. I saw online on the American Home Shield website that, “Book your free annual tune-up for your AC.” I was, “Okay, we're leaving here. So I want to make sure it's good.” I did that. And it came back that the compressor was going bad. And there was a refrigerant leak, which we figured there would be something wrong because it wasn't keeping up during the summer. The contractor found that, and it was nice and simple. The company worked with AHS to make sure that they got it all fixed. Luckily, the company AHS worked with was amazing. And the guy didn't stop until it was fixed and corrected.

    A1 Mitchell’s was great. But I almost canceled them because when I looked them up on the internet, they said that they were coming from Vegas. I didn't want to wait a day. I ended up not canceling ‘cause when I called first thing in the morning, they said, “No, we're in Pahrump.” I said, “Cool.” They did like they said they would do, showed up in between the little window. The tech did a great job. He knew what the problem was in a few minutes, came inside, checked the air after that, and everything was gravy. The tech even worked with me on scheduling a little bit ‘cause I had a class and he was willing to work with me even though it was in the busy season.

    I also had another claim for the AC that was blowing hot in one of our houses. The tech came and there was some wrapping around the pipe that had come off. He said it was blocking the fan, so that was why the AC wasn't performing up to par. He fixed the wrapping and went on his way. About a week later, the AC was still not performing. It was almost two weeks. I called back and they sent out the same company, but a different tech. The first tech said that all the levels were great, everything was good, just that thing blocking. The next tech said that the only problem he could find was that the refrigerant was low. So, he added refrigerant to it. When he left, he sent me a picture of the receipt and the receipt said, “Changed the wire on the AC unit.”

    I called them and said, “Why did he put that if he said he put a refrigerant in there?” He said he was hooking me up because it wasn’t a chargeable amount of refrigerant that he put in there. It was much less. I said, “What am I supposed to do if you guys are saying that and now, it still won't work. Can you guys come back next week?” When they came back out, they said, “You're losing all your refrigerant.” I had to pay AHS another fee because he wasn't honest on his paperwork.

    It's the first time that I've used American Home Shield. They addressed the issues that I've called for. But it was another issue that they could have addressed better. I'm still disappointed on that part. I had a drainage problem with the sink in the kitchen. A contractor came out and took care of that. However, they pointed out that there was a leak coming off the cold water side. I couldn't turn the dials off but they didn't do anything about it.

    I am a Property Manager and I manage about 60 properties. In past, we have always used Fidelity Home Warranty, but because they were substantially less expensive we decided to try American Home Shield. BIGGEST MISTAKE WE EVER MADE! Not only do we spend countless hours on the phone with their Horrible Customer Service Department, but this company's vendors are horrible. They will also lie and make things up in order to get out of covering big ticket items like A/C units and Water Heaters.

    Recently, they said one of our A/C units located in the attic of the home was damaged due to Outside Force such as being kicked. No one ever goes into the attic. There's no storage up there, nothing, but somehow outside force damaged the A/C Coil and Cracked the Drain Line... It's laughable! I had to call the company multiple times and threaten a lawsuit if they didn't cover this and even still they are reviewing the file. It has been 2 weeks since I filed the initial claim. A/C is still broken.

    I have another vendor going out tomorrow to look at it, but essentially I'm probably going to have to sue this company for fraudulent claims to excuse themselves from coverage. This is only one horror story. I have many to choose from since I have about 10 contracts with them. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET IT...

    My experience with American Home Shield has been great when I work with them online. The call times are horrendous. It takes a long time to speak to someone. You don't get to speak to somebody that's from America the first round but in the second round, you do. I've talked to some lovely guys that have lived in Georgia, and they are very helpful. The first round of calls goes to a call center someplace not in the US. Once you get into where they're starting to troubleshoot, they bring it back home for you. Once you get online or if you get to the secretary, everything’s well and they always resolve things nicely. The end result is always good. The only thing is I've tried many times to ask them to just give me this provider, but that doesn't always happen when you're doing claims online. Other than that, I had to replace a dishwasher yesterday and they can't be more accommodating.

    For my recent claim with AHS, the toilet in my upstairs bathroom was leaking down into the foyer downstairs. We found out the first time that it was something up under the toilet that needed to be replaced. But then, my son stopped the toilet up and it started flowing again. The techs had to come out a second time and he cut a hole into the ceiling, but the toilet still was doing the same thing. So, he doubled up on whatever layer he needed to double up on and it fixed the issue. I love AHS. I love the fast service. We've only had one bad incident with them and that was an AC unit and it was the company that they dispatched to us. But other than that, everything's been great.

    The fan motor inside our furnace went out. The technician got out there the next day after my wife submitted a claim with AHS. The technician that came out was awesome. As soon as he got in there, he took apart the unit real quick. He tested three things on the circuit board. When that was deemed that that wasn't it, he went ahead and took out the fan motor for the furnace and did a quick test on it. It would turn over as long as he could go ahead and start the fan spinning manually. It would kick on.

    He said, “This is just getting to the point now where it's so old.” When we pulled it out, it looked like a relic that came off of the Titanic. He said, “I don't think this has been changed since the house was built.” There was a problem getting the motor because it was such an old motor. But he drove out of his way to go pick it up. Since I was coming back up here for Reno, we had a schedule for the following Tuesday. He was there on time and we got it in. We were up and running. If it wasn't for me not being able to be in the house for him to be there, he probably would have turned it around in 48 hours.

    This was the second time we've had to use AHS. Several years back, we had a claim for our air conditioning unit out in the back and the fellow that came out could have upsold us easily into a new machine. And all it ended up turning out being was a diode. So, he switched it out. Whoever AHS got going contracting for them is definitely coming out and doing the right thing.

    The AC claim was successful but with the plumbing claim, they sent the technician and I had to pay $75. Even though it's a plumbing issue, because it's outside the foundation, it's not covered. So, I called AHS and said, “Hey, you know it’s not covered. Why did you even send a technician and take my $75?” They said, “Okay.” I understand they will refund and I asked them to send an email confirmation. They are a billion-dollar company and they cannot do it which is strange. As a consumer, I need I need clear communication. I kept on calling them every few days. I gave them time but it took more than 10 days to get my money back. That's when I disputed to my credit card. In a couple of days, I got the money.

    Whenever I put a request, they should just put a popup message saying, “Hey, is the issue outside of your home? You asked for plumbing. Is it outside of the foundation?” I should have just said yes or no, and that would have helped resolve all the issues. AHS has too much communication for service guys. But just because they're refunding, they don't want to put good communication. With home warranties, there are no good quality companies. But AHS is a little bit better than others. They are decent.

    We're liking American Home Shield. It's a quick service. The app is easy if we have any repairs and the customer service is awesome. But it's hit or miss with the people that are contracted with American Home Shield. One was awesome. When the appointment got booked, they texted us right away and scheduled us. Before they came, they called us. After they ordered the parts, they texted us that it had been ordered. They told us about the timeframe. That was the best one we ever had. But with the middle one, it was a horrible experience. It took almost a year to get the repair on our dishwasher. Their customer service was very bad. They lacked communication. One person would say something but the other person would say something else. I had to do my own diligence in following that up because they would never do. We had to argue with the supervisor.

    We had a leak in our ceiling and it was from a bathtub that was rusted out. AHS does a great job of assigning a contractor in a very thorough manner. They get you in contact with the contractor within 72 hours and they're usually very helpful and can work around your schedule as well.     I had water that had been leaking down through a vent. The service guy looked at all of the lines that led to that. I suspected that the condenser was running and the water was backing up, down and running into the vent. The guy was not able to find anything when it was all said and done. But I just have to keep watch on it. The guy was good. He crawled up my attic and took lots of pictures on his phone. We looked at everything and he discussed things with me. Even though he was not able to resolve the issue, I was pleased that he took considerable time to try and investigate it. He was here for over two hours trying to diagnose the issue.

    Right now, I haven't noticed any more drips down through the vent. It's been a little bit cooler here as we've had a lot of rain. A true test won't happen until the temperature here gets about 110 when the air conditioner runs a lot. I'll have to do a lot of testing on my own and put tissue up there. All in all, I've been very satisfied with American Home Shield. In fact, I recommended it to my sister and to my son. I also had to have them send a plumber out a month or two ago and the plumber was very knowledgeable. He fixed the issue very quickly.

    My garbage disposal was leaking water up underneath the sink and the repair guy did an excellent job. He didn't stop and was very professional. When I had my apartment, I had American Home Shield back in the day. So, this is not new to me.     So far, I'm liking AHS. It might be a little bit too pricey for me to be using. I used it once in two years. But it was there when I needed it. Recently, my oven was not coming to pretreat, it just stayed at pretreat. The service guy knew what the problem was right away. He was very nice. He knew his GE. He pulled out his phone and clicked on the model and he had the part in his truck. He fixed it in half an hour. It has been fine ever since. The support of AHS was also good.     My experience with Sears was great, but my experience with American Home Shield sucks. I had an issue with my air conditioner. I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They said within 24 to 48 hours, somebody would be contacting me. But I didn't hear anything. I woke up one morning on a Thursday to a text message to let me know that somebody was going to be at my house between 12:00 and 2:00. But there was no phone call. I called them, let them know we have jobs, and that I couldn't just come home from work because they decided to come that day. So I made arrangements for them to come the following Friday. I sat there all day long but they never came.

    When I called, I asked them what was going on, because I had been sitting there until 6 in the evening. The rep said she didn't remember even talking to me. She proceeded to tell me that they could be there the following Wednesday. So then I said that was fine. I had my dad come and sit all day long. They still did not come. Then all of a sudden, at 6 o'clock, they were on their way. So it's been nothing but crap with this whole entire service. The customer service is terrible. I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone because I shouldn’t have to go through what I'm going through.

    My AC went out and it wouldn't kick back on. We got it to work the next day but it turned out to be a capacitor issue where a baby snake got up in there and shorted out my capacitor. I did a claim online, and the website was very easy to use. I typed in my issue then they sent me out a claim number that told me they'll be in touch with me.

    The contractor that came out, I've had them a couple times before and they do a good job. They’re very thorough. A year and a half ago, I had an issue when my AC went out. It happened to be a switch underneath the house, and they went ahead and did a complete thorough check for me at the same time. The only issue I have with American Home Shield is it started off at $36 a month, but now it's up to $55 a month. That's with everything nowadays though. Everything's going up.

    Every time I would turn the AC on, it would trip the breaker, and the fan would stop spinning. So, the contractor came out and diagnosed. They said the fan motor was bad. My assumption is American Home Shield has already validated that it's a good and reliable contractor that does the work. I rarely use a home warranty and when I need it, it's not an emergency but many times, it's urgent. So, getting things done in a timely manner is important. Everything, so far, has been great with American Home Shield. I hope that continues.

    We had one of those automated vent hoods and it rises and falls. It got to where it was constantly going up and down and it wouldn't stop. We called home warranty on it and the guy came out because he was with GE Appliances and he said, "Yeah, this is a known issue. Over time, the stove works its way back. All that's happening is the head of the hood is hitting the back of your wall. He scooched it back out and it worked fine. We felt really stupid but the warranty was worth the investment. The guy was really nice. He was on time and he was professional. He laughed a little bit as he showed us how to move the stove out. He said, "Hey, if it does this in the future, you can do this yourself." That was probably the best experience that we've had.

    But we're not with AHS anymore. The first issue that we had was when we called in for AC work, even though we have the right to name a vendor on their list, they fought us on getting our trusted vendor. We've had horrible experiences with other HVAC companies that don't do solid work. So, it was a struggle to get our trusted vendor. We finally got them and they did the normal diagnostic. But they had to go through the AHS process which is to go out, see if the HVAC is low on coolant and fill it up. If it's over a certain amount, they charge the customer almost $400 to fill up and then let it go. The problem was that there was a coil leak. So, the HVAC spewed everything out again and we had to do a recall.

    We did the recall and AHS authorized the replacement of the coil. Now, we've had the coil replaced numerous times through American Home Shield, which means something is going wrong that's not being diagnosed. The techs finally replaced the coil but we're two months in with no AC. The techs got the coil in but the coil AHS ordered was incompatible with our compressor. So the HVAC still didn't work after they went up in my attic, pulled everything out, and put a brand-new unit in. So, the vendor said, "Okay. Now that we've got the coil fixed, we need to replace the compressor to make sure it functions with the approved coil." But American Home Shield refused to cover the repair.

    AHS told the vendor, "Go remove the coil that is taking you now three months to put in because we're not going to cover anything." And at that point, our vendor resigned from American Home Shield, which meant, at that point, I'm four months into no AC and they were going to tell the new vendor that I don't trust to rip all of the new equipment out of my attic, put in something old and inferior to what we had, and try to make it work with the compressor that was outside or inside. We went six months total by the time it was finished and we ended up having zero of our repair covered by American Home Shield. I had to pay 15 grand for a new AC unit so that they didn't have to replace the stuff that was in the attic.

    Almost four months ago, another one of our properties had sewage backing up in the shower and a stoppage in the toilet. So, we called the AHS and they sent out a company called ASAP Plumbing. The techs didn't fix what the problem was. They were gone a week or two and the sewage backed up again. We did a recall and they said, "We need to run a camera. That's not covered by American Home Shield. You're gonna pay us directly $200." I said, "That doesn't make sense to me. Shouldn't you let American Home Shield know this is required to figure out what's wrong and shouldn't that be covered?" They said, "Nope. You have to pay us."

    So, we paid the vendor $200 and they then wrote up an estimate saying that they found a clog and a potential break in the sewage line. But they listed it as under the foundation. Our house is a pier & beam and there is no foundation. There is a crawlspace. Then, the vendor that American Home Shield sent wanted $20,000 for the repair. When we said, "Did you file this with American Home Shield?" they hemmed and hawed and they said, "Well, this won't be covered. We need you to allow us to file with your insurance company."

    We contacted American Home Shield and we said, "$20,000 is ridiculous. Where are you at with this vendor?" They said, "Well, the vendors never filed a report with us." I said, "We have a house that has sewage coming up in it. We need it fixed. Do what you have to do". almost three months later, the vendor still had not filed. American Home Shield refused to get our backs or do anything about it. So, I had to go get my own plumber and he did that $20,000 job for $3,000. It was a fraudulent claim trying to get me to have this plumbing vendor go after my insurance.

    Also, because of where the line needed to be repaired, it wasn't covered by my homeowner's insurance or my home warranty. But the home warranty even refused to cover the stuff that was inside. They gave me zero support and zero coverage. They told me it was all on me and they were gonna let that vendor take me to the cleaners for 20 grand on a $3,000 job. I called American Home Shield and pleaded my case and I said, "This is what you guys did. This is how much I'm paying. Are you guys willing to make right on any of this?" And they told me, "No." On the day they told me no, I canceled every single contract I had with them and I will never do business with them again.

    The service of AHS has been okay. I had an issue with one of the vendors, though. We had put in a request for the AC through AHS and they did what they were supposed to do. But the vendor never responded to us and his voicemail would not take messages. I called AHS back and they were able to finally get me another vendor, who then got out here and did his job. But that took a number of weeks to repair a central air unit. But we were very happy with them. They got up in the attic and addressed the problem. Got it figured out. It's been working great since they did that. They went out of their way too to make sure the other lines were all unclogged. We also had techs work on our refrigerator and dishwasher and the guys did a fantastic job. But, getting parts took some time. Then AHS sent us a plumber. We had a clog in the line. He did a great job too.

    American Home Shield provided me a link once it was determined that I would need a new dishwasher. I selected one off their website and then there was a service provider that the appliance was shipped to. Once I got the authorization to go order a new dishwasher, it was really smooth. I enjoyed that because it took the worries about getting rid of the old one. Also, they seemed to give me a better deal than the alternative option of giving me 500 bucks and then I have to figure out what to do with that money. It was like a white-glove treatment. So I really appreciate that.

    The service provider came and installed the dishwasher. But when I came home, I was not too happy about their installation. Some of these newer dishwashers have the LCD control panel on top of it and they left about an eighth of an inch gap where you can't stick your finger in there. So I ended up ripping the whole thing out and reinstalling it the proper way.

    When I first placed an American Home Shield call to have parts replaced, they sent out Sears. We had a scheduled date and it was between 1:00 and 4:00. But I got a text back that day at 4:30 saying, "Your service call has been rescheduled". It was past the scheduled time. It also said that the new date was tomorrow between 12:00 and 4:00. They didn't even call me that it was being rescheduled. I get that it's a difficult market these days. But it's the lack of communication that was there. But the tech who came was great. It was not his fault. He was not responsible for scheduling. American Home Shield should get feedback about the service provider.

    I had an issue with my garbage disposal. American Home Shield replaced it. I also had an issue with electricity and all it was is it needed the dimmers to be changed. $100 is okay. The dishwasher started making a funny noise, and all the tech said was food got in the whatever. He cleaned it out and that was the end of that. I also had a guy come twice. The first time was the heater right before the winter. He checked out it out. He said it needed to be cleaned and they don't do that. Nobody told me he didn't. And they didn't offer to clean it, either. I had to find somebody because AHS said they don't find maintenance things. This time, I did it for the air conditioner. The guy came, the $75 tune-up. And he said everything was fine and he went on about his business.

    I wanted to know how is this working. So, if something breaks down and if AHS can't repair it, they're not going to replace it. And according to what happened in the conversation that I had with these other people, it had broken down, and AHS told them, “It's already broken, so we're not going to replace it.” Also, I don't like the idea that if I need something done, AHS doesn't do it, or they don't even recommend people. If they know that there are people that could put in whatever I needed that’s not broken. Could they let us know the vendors that would do what I just asked?

    Now, I need to ask people. If you're a company, does your company repair stuff or fix stuff? My faucet isn't broken. I'm just replacing it with another faucet. So, I would need a plumber to do that. AHS should know stuff like that. They have vendors. It is something that could be a part of a policy. Because I use them for everything, so why can't I use them for everything?

    I've had the policy of AHS for about a year now. So far, their service seems to be fine. The techs came out recently because there was a clog in my drain and noticed that running the washing machine, water was coming out of the pipe onto the basement floor. Apparently, there was either some paper or a paper towel that was already in the line that was clogging it. The techs snaked it and then everything was good. They were really nice.

    I had one issue where I needed a plumber to come out. The line on my refrigerator from my waterline had broken and I was having a water leak that I thought was coming from a pipe. The first person they sent out told me I needed to dismantle my bathroom so they could get to the pipe. I had my bathroom taken apart and it turned out it wasn't even a pipe. It needed to be done in the kitchen where the line to the refrigerator was broken.

    I went through a whole lot of trouble because I had a bathroom out of commission for about a month trying to get somebody to fix it. When the second person they sent out pulled the refrigerator out from the wall and said, "This is where your leak is coming from, the refrigerator line." But my bathroom had already been taken apart. I was not happy with this person they sent the first time around and I gave him a bad review and they wouldn't come back because I gave him a bad review.

    I used American Home Shield's service last month, and they solved my problem. When the service guy came, he was very personable, very knowledgeable, and took care of the problem in no time. I needed coolant for the AC, and I paid about $300 out of pocket including the deductible. I’ve just had problems getting in touch with American Home Shield because they don’t recognize 340 numbers, even though it is US territory and it is American. I can call everyone else, but I can’t call American Home Shield. So, that is something that they might need to work on. I had to get another phone to communicate with them and get the issue solved. Overall, I’m enjoying American Home Shield. I’ve had other people who are not very good at all. So, this is the best company that I’ve come across so far.

    I didn't like the way the process was. They tell you you will be contacted in 48 hours, which they did. But they don't make apparent that it takes another 48 hours for a contractor to call you. It took five days. But the repairman called and came out the same day, which was nice. He was very good. He came out on Friday and sent the price to American Home Shield on Monday, but they rejected it. I can see rejecting about $5,000 but I can't see rejecting $2,000. It took another six days after I did several calls to customer service to get it assigned to someone else to come out and give a second price. I called the 2nd contractor and they said, "No, we rejected it. We're off their list." American Home Shield tried to get someone else and that took another three or four days but they rejected it.

    We were three weeks into the claim, and I finally looked up the president and vice president of the company and started sending them emails. I then got a call from Wendy and she said that she'd get back to me. Within a day, they accepted the initial price. We finally got the issue fixed 29 days after. People tell us American Home Shield is the best in the industry but I've got friends and they said it generally takes nearly 30 days to get anything fixed. What happens if the furnace goes out in the middle of winter? Am I gonna have to wait 29 days? It makes me think twice about it.

    Wendy told me, "Please don't copy the vice presidents anymore. I'll handle it." I copied them until a contractor showed up and I copied them once after that to thank them and that I appreciated the fast response. They only heard about good things from her. I copied her to let her know when the repairman came out to fix it, which took another six days because he had to order the parts and get a schedule. It was a complicated part. It was a coil. It was expensive. It was a $2,000 deal. But the repairman fixed it perfectly. It all worked out and American Home Shield picked up the cost. We appreciate it. They also notified us which was good. There was a re-notification to us that the freon cost over $10 a pound is our expense, which we expected. It was $600 to get that in.

    A-US Air came out three different times. On the most recent visit, the guy came to see my AC and discovered that there was an electrical problem. He turned it in, and the man from the electrical company came and said, “The breaker is gone. We'll get back in touch with you.” It took a week to get back in touch with me, but finally, he did then he came, brought the breaker, and fixed it. It never took that long before, and the only good thing about that was we have two units, one upstairs and one downstairs. The one upstairs was the one that wasn't working. Thank God for that, ‘cause we live downstairs. So, we were still comfortable.

    Everything has been working ever since the electrician left. It just took him a minute to get it done. It seemed like there was no communication going on in there because the first guy came and said the breaker was gone. The next guy should have come with the breaker, but he didn't. Other than that, I like everything about American Home Shield. They’ve always done right by me, and they're prompt. When I call them, mostly, they'll be here within a matter of days.

    I like American Home Shield’s service. We moved in our house last year and we have used it a lot because there were a lot of problems. It’s been great.     The AC was repaired fine, and the people were fabulous. However, for the claim on the refrigerator, we had a very bad contractor and I was torqued about that. The contractor was ADA Repair. Our refrigerator was not cooling consistently on the freezer side. ADA came out. Unfortunately, they sent a gentleman who didn't speak any English. I don't think I was able to effectively communicate what I thought the possible problem was. He said it could be my control board then he left.

    ADA registered the visit as complete, which he said he would report back. I called their switchboard and said, “Could you have senior management or someone call me back so I could explain that something's not working?” I used the AHS website to do a second visit by them. The gentleman came out again, but he didn't do much more. There were no actions, and the English barrier was not an issue. There were problem-solving issues. He took a temperature and looked at the fridge. I called AHS and the individual said they were gonna have the same contractor send out a senior technician. Eventually ADA tapped out. They said they didn't want to send anybody. A new firm was contracted, Alfa Appliances. The technician came in and identified the source of the problem. They submitted a report, and he came back out yesterday and fixed the problem. Now, it's cooling pretty well on the freezer side.

    I've asked American Home Shield whether one can choose one's own contractor. You have to request it by calling the call center which could be a challenge depending on which call center you get. They're all very good. But the US call centers are responsive. Unfortunately, the website would be easier. If they want to push us to use the website, they should give us that functionality.

    I raised a claim for all of our outlet switches in the bathroom that weren't working. An electrician came out. What he mentioned was we didn't need those kind of switches in all the bathrooms. It's a daisy chain. If there is a high voltage, it's to stop the things from moving on. So if you have stopped it at one place, you don't need to do all over. He said people usually put everywhere, and this is how they make money. They had installed everywhere. Only one switch was bad. He replaced that one switch in the downstairs bathroom, and that fixed all our outlets. We have two upstairs bathrooms, one master and one kid’s bathroom. Both were not working. As soon as they fixed the downstairs bathroom, all the outlets started working. It was quick.

    Sometimes, you run into some bad contractors who don't know much. In this case, it was straightforward. There was one claim that I had filed with American Home Shield earlier. I was not happy at all. Some contractor came in and those guys didn't do a good job. I thought there was some leak and in the roof. They said, “There's a lot of water that we have to clean.” A new guy came in and said there was no water. They were bluffing.

    Hello: I joined the American Home Shield last year to cover my home appliances and other items. I pay about $60 monthly and $125 copy if I call for service. Last August 11, 2022, I called for service to repair my microwave. The microwave (one top) is leaking oil/grease on the top (inside) of the microwave.. I think is coming from the magnetron unit. So my family is afraid to use it for safety reason... it may explode?

    The AHS technician came over after 1 week. They diagnosed the problem as "due to abuse of use". Therefore not covered by the warranty. How can that be? I feel that they are trying not to spend time in repair and trying to avoid repair. I thought that is their business purpose... That is why I'm paying the fee and the copay. This is totally fraudulent and dishonest conduct. AHS is using "abuse of use" as an escape to repair the problem. There are only me, my wife and my 7 year old son who are using the microwave and washer in a careful, safety way... yet AHS has corrupted the warranty. I feel this is AHS is corrupt company and fraudulent in providing service to consumers. I need the help of Consumer Affairs to clean-up this kind of service. Thank you.

    My central air stopped cooling at the beginning of May 2022. Two weeks after making claim AHS selected contractor came without tools to test and determine issue. Week later came back and no longer needed to test. Just added refrigerant (cost to me $360) and closed claim. Two weeks later not cooling again. Multiple tests and cut system apart. Now two months later still no parts for repairs. It is hot and I am old. Calling AHS I learn no one takes responsibility and everyone but AHS is responsible. AHS does not return calls. This is not a one off situation. AHS took two months to replace a refrigerator that would not cool last year at this time. I cannot recommend AHS for those who expect timely repairs and service. New research points to increased health risks associated with elevated night temperatures while sleeping. No central air in Florida in June, July, and now August. And if I repair instead of AHS they don’t pay. Great business model.

    I don't like American Home Shield. A & M Plumbing hasn't entirely fixed the problem but they tried. American Home Shield got them out here in a timely manner, which is unusual. But based on their track record, I'm not willing to put out the amount of money it costs now for what kind of service they give you. I've had claims denied. I've had multiple people come out to try to fix the same problem. A lot of their people don't seem to be capable of handling the problem at all or they tell them the wrong thing. When they come, they're not prepared for what the problem is even though you've told them a number of times.

I called AHS and the reps were very good and well-trained. They repeated everything I said so that they could make sure that they understood me correctly.     AHS needs to be a bit more selecting with the technicians that do the repairs for them. The individual from would never keep his schedule. They told me they're gonna be there at 1 o'clock, I took time off from work and they didn't how up. The tech did that to me three times. It got to a point where it was no show, no more. He subcontracted the job. I never made contact with him after the second time that he never showed up.

    But their contractor Wallace Heating & Cooling keeps their appointments. The tech confirmed it is a 4-ton compressor with a 4-ton handler. The tech from Total Air told me my unit was a 5-ton and I took it at that. The tech from Wallace said it was incorrect information that Total Air gave me and that it is a matching system. They replaced the compressor only and the AC is working now.

    The garbage disposal was leaking. American Home Shield has a website. I went there and requested service. The contractor came on time, and the service was good. The tech was in there and out. It took him about an hour. He repaired the existing because it was a new garbage disposal. He had to tie in the parts of where it was leaking. He just had to tighten it up. I like that don't have to worry about being scammed. Like if I had called the outside plumber. It's just a flat deductible. And I don't have to worry about AHS saying, “Oh, this is going to be $800.”

    The fridge was leaking condensation fluid into the bottom of the freezer. Then, when it built up enough, it would push the freezer thing open and defrost everything if I didn't break the ice up every couple of days. I did a claim to American Home Shield and once the appointment was submitted for scheduling, then they gave me the name and the phone number. A Sears tech came and he was nice. The issue was a clogged condensation line and the evaporator coils were all frozen up. I had defrosted it in the past, but the problem was I didn't know how it clogged. It seems to be working okay.

    I love Home Shield, but I'm so disappointed again. I called them on May 18th on my air conditioning unit, and they told me that a man from Billy's Air Conditioning in Lynchburg will contact me within 48 hours, which would be May the 20th. On the 20th, I didn't hear anything from them, so I purchased a used window air unit in my bedroom. On the 24th, Billy's Air Conditioning came out to my home. They said I needed a service board. From the 24th of May, they did not come back to me until June 15th. So, I ended up purchasing another used air conditioner going to another bedroom and also my kitchen because my house was hot.

    On the 24th, they came with the service board. The technician said they couldn't put the Freon in the unit because he didn't have the right nozzle that goes on the Freon tank. I said to him, "This is what you do every day. How did you not know that you needed whatever the nozzle was to go on the tank to put the Freon in?" That was June 15th, and they still didn't come back until the 24th to put the Freon in the air conditioning unit. I called the representatives of American Shield many times. I said, "I need to speak to someone that is over you. Give me an email, something that I could send to someone and let them know what is going on." Someone did call and told me that the next time I call for service, I wouldn't have to pay the $100 fee. That was good. They also put on the notes for me to never send Billy's Air Conditioning again. I'm not understanding how this man is still contracted with American Home Shield.

    I called a couple of weeks ago when my microwave was out. AHS sent someone from Sears to fix it. I signed the invoice and I said, "Do I owe anything?" He said, "No, you owe nothing." I've got a copy of the invoice. They sent it to my email. Then, I got an email from American Home Shield saying I owe $100 to the service contractor. So, I called and said, "Well, no. I don't owe $100, because it says $0 on my invoice." They sent an email saying I'm past due. I called a representative, and it's like they can only know so much. I said, "Can I forward you this email? Because when I signed the invoice, it said $0. So I don't know why I'm having to pay $100 for a service contractor when I'm not supposed to be paying anything."

    There was no one to talk to. It's not good to give up on people. It's just that the representative can't help when you have major problems, and there's no one for you to talk to about it above them. If I call someone that's got issues, I always ask to speak to a manager or a supervisor. Then, when I ask him for an email, there was no email. So, I went on the website and the email just didn't go to them. They gave me an email, and I had to choose a microwave. I did all that. So, they're sending someone else that's supposed to call me today and they're supposed to bring my microwave tomorrow.

    My upstairs unit wasn't cooling. The tech went into the attic and checked a few things. He then went outside but he came back and said everything was good. He said he added a bit of coolant and something else to prevent leakage. But it's still having the same issue. Now it's kind of worse and it doesn't even cool down at night. AHS contacted me today and said that the company was going to come back out. So I have an appointment tomorrow from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

    When I went with AHS years ago, they went with more reputable companies. But now, the contractors they work with are fly-by-night small companies. That makes me a little apprehensive. Some of them don't even answer their phone. When I looked at the reviews of this particular company and the one that they tried to give me at first, customers were complaining and saying that the techs will come and then after that, there will be a further issue with their AC and the techs will try to quote them a lot of money to fix it. If the techs come tomorrow and they try to quote something that I think is excessive, then I'm just gonna call a reputable HVAC company and just pay for it.

    I've had Home Shield for about two and a half years. In my other home, I had them for probably 15 years. When I bought this new home, it was with some other home warranty for the first year. When that was up, I went back to Home Shield because I've had good results with them regarding my washer and dryer and one appliance. I only used them three or four times over that span of time. I used the home warranty on appliances in my kitchen and they were great. But the air conditioner has been an issue here. I've had techs out four times and they keep filling it with fluid. We've had them fill it four times. There is a leak and the techs said, "Even filling it the first time, there's a leak somewhere." The third time, the guy charged me $250 to put a micro leak thing gas in there. Two weeks later, we had to call them again and I was really frustrated.

    Home Shield only covers $10 of the Freon per pound and I am charged $90 to fill it. Every time techs come out, it's costing me $200, $300. It was just frustrating that the company doesn't fix the problem. I told Home Shield to send me a different company. I needed to find out what the problem is and fix it. With all the times the techs have been out and filling the air conditioner, I could have put in about $1,000 into a new unit. Finally, Home Shield sent a new guy out. They didn't charge me the second time because it was only two weeks and they said they would send the manager out. The manager crawled into the attic space and said the air conditioner was installed poorly. It was not raised up enough for the condensation to drip down in a lower spot and they put a valve in wrong. Apparently, the valve was turned incorrectly and filled up again with the Freon. Supposedly, it was fixed. The manager was capable and fixed a couple of things.

    Another thing is the air conditioner doesn't really run optimally. I have two in my house and it works okay. The larger one that I'm having problems with is in the larger space of the house. I'm afraid I'm going to need a new air conditioner soon and I'm afraid that Home Shield won't pay for it. I was almost ready to cancel Home Shield. But with the age of my house, I better keep it. I just kept thinking of the amount I pay monthly. I could pay a full service repairman to come out and pay the normal fee. That aside, the other companies that came out for the kitchen appliances were great.

    I always call American Home Shield directly when I have a claim. I bypass the automated part because I get to fussing and cussing at that. I want to speak to a person. I had two orders in with the home warranty. The first one came, which I was shocked, surprised and very happy about. I didn't even get off the phone with American Home Shield and the plumbing people were calling for an appointment. Plumbers from Best Care of North Alabama were here the next day.

    My other claim was for my stove. It went out for the second time in four months. When the repair guy came, he said he didn't smell anything. He turned it on and said he smelled wires so I haven't been using the stove. He was looking at the inside and he took out the bottom. He was first one that ever took that bottom piece out. He said, “All I smell is that because it's been sitting for a while. You haven't been using it and it's burning.” It was the exact same thing that was just replaced. That didn't last for two months.

    So far, it is taking over a month for me to get the part. I'm still waiting. It's been about a week and a half since the tech guy came. I have not heard anything. I told them the first time that I have a family. Food costs too much for me to have to keep going out. I can't use my oven. The top of the stove is cool but I can't fry foods.

    The service company that did the repair on the stove initially is no longer allowed to come to the house. They have been here twice for two different things and it was taking too long. They were sending people out but when we called them, they said that the person that came to look at the stove didn't work for them. They had to send somebody else. They kept saying it was the refrigerator that needed to be fixed when it was the stove. That was just a mess.

    I'm giving American Home Shield until tomorrow to see if they don't get ahold of me. They need to buy the stove and give me money to get a new one because I cannot do another month without a stove. If they give me $500 for the stove, I’ll go buy a new one. I know what I need. This is a confectionary oven and I paid money for this oven. I'm not gonna go with just any other oven. Other than that, I have and would, recommend American Home Shield because they have been good to us. I have received a new refrigerator through them. I got a new air conditioning unit two years ago too. My sister just bought a house and I told her to call American Home Shield.

    American Home Shield AHS is a very good company to deal with. The service to get your tech out is very good. And their service techs that come out are good. I've had somebody come out earlier this year for the central air unit, and he was excellent. Matt was his name. He was from East Ohio Gas. The guy was phenomenal. And the other gentleman from Mr. Appliance was very good. There was a gentleman that came out before him earlier in the year from a different appliance company that was out of Streetsboro. They did not resolve the problem.

    I did not know that I have to contact my company within 30 days. When a different company came out a second time, that was when I found that out. I just figured the tech put the part in and everything would be fine. So, I went to use the oven and I still had the same problem as what I had before. I wound up paying the $100 deductible twice because the problem was still the same thing the first time, after they put the brains of my stove. But it didn't resolve the problem. The oven kept shutting off on me and not holding the heat. The temperatures were hot, so I didn't use the oven right away. When I went to bake, I still had the problem. I turned it to 375. It wouldn't hold the temperature. The temperature in the oven would not even go beyond 325. And this is after the first stove repair guy put in the main brains to the unit.

    Every single person that comes out to do a repair should tell the customer, if, for some reason they're not satisfied, they need to call back within the 30 days, or if they call back after 30 days, they will wind up re-charging them. AHS is gonna re-charge us to make a new service call after 30 days, even if it's the same problem.

    This time, the gentleman from Mr. Appliance said, “You could have had a defective brain also for it, so we’re gonna replace that again. It could have absolutely been a defective part, and you didn't know.” But he also put in some oven control parts. I tested it out within a week. It seems to be working okay. It was interesting that when the second technician ordered the parts for my unit, the parts were sent to my house. I didn't know if they were supposed to be sent to the customer or to the service company. Because the tech did not know when they came out. But I was happy to have them. And it took a little time for their schedule to get set up. But when it came to getting everything repaired, I was very satisfied.

    I put in a claim with AHS for a few things. A couple of different companies came out. When Sears came out, they were the ones who really did a good synopsis of what was going on. But this has been going on for four months almost, back and forth with American Home Shield. This particular process has been a nightmare. I finally got them to the point where they realized they needed to replace the refrigerator.

    It was very difficult to communicate concerning the problem. We suffered as customers because we couldn’t speak to one department, then we had to speak to another. There was never a floor manager available to escalate the call. They were quick to tell, “Okay, here’s your deductible. This is what you got to pay us,” but then, we were forgotten about.

    In 2020, they came out for the air conditioner. I paid the deductible, and then they told me I had to pay for the Freon. They said, “We only give you a gallon. After that, you got to pay the rest.” This year, I had another air conditioner problem, which they were supposed to have fixed it. They said there was a little small leak and it’s Freon. It gets low, and then you have to fill it back up. But in 2020, the guy said there was a leak and had to repair it. So how in 2022 it’s not working at all, when I haven’t used it since then?

    I said, “But when I signed up, I had, for example, a hypothetical, 5-gallon unit. So, you’re not giving me anything that’s gonna make it worthwhile if something goes wrong. You’re taking my monthly fee of $50 a month, and then a deductible of $115 plus tax. I don’t know if this is gonna work out for me.” They said, “We’ll see what we can do.” But of course, nothing with that. So, I paid the difference.

    I had to wake up every day at 7:00 on a mission to try to get somebody on the phone that could work with me on this. I got a nice person today. They said, “You need to get it fixed because we don't have anybody available. Go ahead and locate a vendor, and then have them call us and we can approve it.” I called 15 people but they don't work with third-party people. I told AHS this when I called them back. They said, “All you got to do is just put them on the phone, and then we can approve it.” I said, “Whatever he’s gonna tell you is zero. He’s very specific, ‘I am not dealing with your third-party people. You have to pay, and you can deal with them.’” That became a fiasco all by itself. Out of the money that I paid to have this service done from beginning to end, I'm getting less than half of it back. I’m gonna look for somebody else to cover my house because this is not working with American Home Shield.

    One contractor we had was Foxcroft HVAC and they have done a couple of things for us. For our furnace, we had to have a couple of technicians come out here to figure out what was wrong with it, which was aggravating. But in the end, they did fix it. Recently, someone came right out, fixed it, and was gone in 20 minutes. Everything works great. The technicians were very polite and helpful.

    The recent claim we had was for the air conditioner. We communicated with the company and the job was done. Prior to that, it took us probably a good six months to get the unit fixed correctly. Technicians had to come in and they tried something and it didn't work. Another guy came back from the same place. He tried something and it didn't work. Finally, a guy came in, figured out what the issue was, fixed it, and we had no problem after that. They were very responsive when we had to keep calling them.

    The only thing I didn't like was when we realized that the unit started leaking again. We had been in and out of the house and going different places. We had to pay another service fee of $75 to get the technicians to come back out because the ticket had expired for them to come and fix it. Other than that, they were helpful when we called them and did their best to try to get it fixed as soon as possible. I told people that if they buy a house, they need to get ahold of American Home Shield and have a home warranty because it is worth it very much. We've had American Home Shield for years and we've had very good luck.

    My claim with AHS for the heat pump took 67 days. It was unbelievable. I never had a problem with AHS about anything. Every time I called that 800 number, I get the same people. I don't know what country these calls go to, but I had a hard time understanding most of them. They were all very polite. I called every day and everybody said, "We're going to take care of it." I said, "When?" They didn't know what it meant. I said, "Everyone says they're going to take care of this." It was 90-some degrees starting in May here. We've had an extremely hot summer. I said, "I need air conditioning. I need to know a company that's going to come and fix it." I've had two companies and they were both so busy, that they didn't even really want to talk to me.

    The second one said, "We'll call you back in three weeks." I said, "You're not even going to do anything for three weeks?" She said, "No, we're booked. I can't just drop everything we're doing. We just have too many calls right now. Call me back in three weeks." I said, "That's not gonna happen." I called American Home Shield again and they gave me another company in East Brady, PA, Empire. At first, I had a little bit of trouble getting ahold of them. But they called me back and they were gonna do this and that and we waited. I kept calling them too and said, "Is this gonna ever happen?" She said, "We have to wait for the parts." I said, "Where are they coming from, the moon? I can't imagine waiting this long."

    This went on and on. They said they were doing the best they could. They couldn't do anything till they got the equipment. I said, "I understand. But I need to know why am I not getting the equipment." She said, "Well, because of COVID. We had a lady last year. She had to wait four months for one piece, and then three months for the other part until we could do it." I said, "That's just not acceptable. I'm paying for a home warranty. I've had it for 14 years."

    I've called every number. I even called the president of the company and left a voicemail. I got no response from anybody. Eventually, I talked to the place that was going to do my service in East Brady, at Empire, and they said, "The parts were shipped to Akron, Ohio." I said, "That's like three hours from where I live. What does that mean?" She said, "We're not going to Akron, Ohio to pick up your parts." I said, "How are you going to get them?" She said, "They'll have to ship them back to us."

    I even wrote everybody a letter. I said, "Something needs to be done. I need to talk to somebody. First of all, someone who can speak English. Second of all, someone who knows what the heat pump is and an air handler is. Third of all, I need those parts." The company in East Brady was willing to do all this, but they had to have the parts. At the end of the letter, I said, "I'm sorry. It's so hot here and I'm so tired of fighting with everybody." I just thanked them and I said, "If you could do something soon, it would be appreciated."

    I ended up calling someplace in Tennessee and talked to some executive who said that he would fix everything. They started a different back and forth about what I had to pay. First, it was 1,200, then it was 1,420, then it was 1,500-something, and then the guy said, "It might be as much as 3,000." I said, "Why do these prices keep changing?" Finally, Empire said, "It's going to be 1,420 and that's all it's going to be."

    Finally, they got the parts and they called me. They came two days later and installed everything. The next day, they came and they had to finish up a couple of things, but they were done. They put a new air handler in and a new heat pump and they cleaned up very nicely. The people that came were very nice and the girl in the office, Kitsie, really helped me with everything. I never talked to a woman that knew so much about parts before, but she knew all that stuff. Eventually, everything got fixed. But boy, it was a long time coming.

    American Home Shield saves money because everything is expensive now. However, I was disappointed last time because my fridge was out and it took the repairman three times to come and get it right. First, he said it was a valve. It started running then stopped. The second time he came, he said it was something that wasn't running. He started that. The third time he came, he said that it needed a motor. He said he caught that last time. If he caught that last time, he should have checked it the second time before he left. But he didn't. So I had to call them back a third time. I don't think he should have taken three times.

    American Home Shield provides quick service. They have outstanding customer service. The latest time I did a claim, it was for the oven that was overheating and burned all my cakes. I eventually got a temperature gauge and found out that it was 10 to 15 degrees over and only stayed on high. It wouldn’t go on medium or low. I called AHS and they sent GNB. They came out two days later. It was gonna cost too much to repair the oven, so they went ahead and got us a different oven. I had to pay the difference.

    My garbage disposal broke. As soon as I called AHS, they picked up the phone. The tech came out the same day and fixed it. I liked the tech a lot. He was clean, efficient, and didn't mess around. It took him 20 minutes and he had it going again. My air conditioner also broke this spring and the techs came out and fixed it. I'm very happy with the service of AHS. It's a great service. If you got an older house and not a new house, I'd recommend it. It's the same thing as having Aflac to me.

    My AC was blowing hot air. I called American Home Shield and they had someone to come out at first. They put the coolant in there and then it started working for a little bit. They said there were no other issues. All we needed was just the coolant. But, about a week later, it started getting hot again. We asked AHS, "Could we get the same people? Because we had already paid for a refrigerant." AHS said they were trying to get them, but they weren't on there. So, we weren't able to get the same people. Someone else came out.

    When they came out, they tried to say it was this big old problem that was gonna cost close to 3,000-some dollars. We were like, "$3,000? We paid too much for it for us to come out of $3,000. Can we get another opinion?" So, that was when the last tech came out and he looked at everything. He said it was just something that was clogged up. He did what he was supposed to do to get it unclogged and we really did not have to pay the $3,000 because everything else on my AC worked.

    There was no reason for us to get another AC. We thought that we were gonna have to pay the $75 again because they said if the issue was not what the second people said, then we were gonna have to pay $75 again. Came to find out that there wasn't an issue with my AC, so we did not have to pay the $75 again, which was good on our part. Everything came out good.

    We had a few things that came up after the purchase of the house. The AC unit stopped working. Then we got someone with the American Home Shield, and as soon as the technician left, the second out of three AC units stopped working. We told them we would like to call another company for the second unit, and they did and it was great. The second guys were swift and wonderful, and they fixed more issues than they thought they would. We are still waiting for the first guys to do something. They've been rescheduling us multiple times. So today, I called American Home Shield and said, “Do you mind if we just go completely with the second AC guys other than the first? We truly would rather just work with them at this point.” They said, “Well, we'll see what we can do"

    Overall, AHS always responds really well to the claims. Our water pressure was really low when we moved in. They had a plumber sent to us and it turned out that the City of Gainesville did not turn the water from the main all the way up. So, it was a really easy fix but we were glad someone came. We were suffering for four days. Water pressure was so low that someone couldn't do dishes and shower at the same time. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield's responsiveness overall.

    Some of the operators American Home Shield has don't speak or understand English that good. Also, I still have the same issue that has been going on for the past month. It's the AC. The contractor seemed knowledgeable. I’m being understanding with them. It's just getting parts. It’s a busy time of the year. I get it. And as one thing is fixed, something else goes out. I never get to where I can fully use the ac for a day.

    I use American Home Shield every once in a while as things break. If I don't use it for five years, I do the math if it equals a component replacement and it's worth it. But right now, I'm mixed. I only use it based on the fact that I'm not here all the time. So my wife has an avenue to go instead of calling just some services. I would recommend it. But read through the fine print.

    From water line busting to something with the AC, I’ve paid almost $500. But each trip out would have been in the thousands without American Home Shield.     A part went out on our AC, and it stopped blowing cold air for a couple of days. American Home Shield sent On Time Plumbing and they did a great job. I had worked with On Time before and was told that they were a contractor that American Home Shield used. I actually suggested and recommended On Time. American Home Shield contracted another contractor. I called them, and I was like, “Hey, I'd prefer if On Time could come out because I know that they do good work and they’re prompt and etc.” It was just a little bit more of a headache than I feel like it should have been. I would have liked them if they were just like, “Oh, yeah, I can see that they are one of our contractors that we use. That's no problem.”

    I feel like they didn’t really go out of their way to kind of fulfill what I had requested. It made it seem like it was a really difficult thing to accomplish. We’re in a digital age where we’re sending emails or texts, and it made me feel like they had to write up a letter and send it on horseback for somebody to get this message out to make the request. There was a breakdown in communication between them getting the request, contacting dispatch, and dispatch being able to receive that.

    A lot of times, it's hard getting the reps to answer. There have been some points where they were not clear on what the service fee was. We finally ironed that out. It was a little confusing as to what was wrong. Other than that, generally the contractors have been very professional on what they're doing.

    Orlando was the young man that came out for my claim and he was really good. He was from Accord Appliance and I liked him. He was very professional and he got the job done and quickly. The only thing was the appointments were scheduled out and it took a week for them to even call for an appointment, then another week for an appointment. They then had to come back again because a part had to be ordered. It took an entire month for my things to get resolved and that was way too long.

    I didn't like Accord Appliance but American Home Shield, so far, has been fine. I had a First American initially but they denied claims that were valid so I canceled and went with American Home Shield. My friend has the same warranty and said they've been very good to her and had taken care of everything that she had reported.

    I got a policy with American Home Shield when I bought my home. I ended up going with a different company, but I came back to American Home Shield. When I call in to set up service, they take care of it right away. I used them for something major recently when my AC went out. For the first time, I saw the real benefit of having it. The AC was fine then it just stopped working. I called American Home Shield and paid my service fee. The representative was good. She got me hooked up with MJS Mechanical right away. She was able to give me their contact because I wanted it done ASAP.

    I went ahead and gave them a call, and a guy picked up. I told him who I was and who I was with. He said they could get a tech out the next day. That happened on Thursday late afternoon and a guy showed up Friday morning. He went out and diagnosed everything. He said, "You're gonna need a brand-new motor, but your particular AC is gonna need a specialized motor. I just can't go buy one. It has to come from the manufacturer. I have to find the part and it probably won't be until next week.” I thought he was gone for the day, but he went to his truck, made some phone calls and found the part within the city. That was great. He could have just went about his business and look for the part when he felt like it. He came back, knocked on the door and said, "I found the part. It’s here in Houston. They have to send it to me. I can come out sometime Monday or Tuesday as soon as I can get my hands on the part.” On Tuesday morning, he called me and said he got the part. He came over and the AC was fixed.

    In May, my dryer was taking three cycles for me to get my clothes dry. I called American Home Shield and they sent a tech out. He looked at it and said, “There's nothing wrong with your dryer. It's your dryer vent that needs to be cleaned. I don't think American Home Shield handles that under the warranty. That's gonna be a separate situation. But I'm not gonna sit here and tell you something’s wrong with your dryer and start fixing stuff that doesn't need to be fixed." I appreciated his honesty. He wasn’t trying to make money off me. I ended up calling somebody separately to fix the dryer vent, and the dryer has been perfect ever since.

    My air conditioner wasn't working. The tech came out and fixed it. The tech was also very neat, tidy and polite. He was efficient. If all the other contractors AHS uses are as good as this one, I'm gonna be a really happy camper. He was very considerate of the news that my oldest son lives with me. He's 55 and he has MS. The heat can send him into a real spiral and to the hospital. I've had AHS for three years now and this was the first claim I've had. It was taken care of very promptly. I'd recommend AHS.

    My upstairs air conditioner went out. American Home Shield sent out somebody to fix it and they replaced the condenser. The air conditioner came back on but there was no air blowing. So I called back in, and I requested A & R Complete because I've used them before and they do the maintenance on my units. So they came out, checked everything and found some loose wires in the blower system up in the attic. They repaired that, and everything has worked perfectly since they got here.

    ASAP Lock's tech changed six locks for us. He did a fabulous job, and I was very satisfied. The claims process with American Home Shield was fairly straightforward. We also had an issue with a pool pump. The problem was fixed, and that was really wonderful. It was just impossible to get ahold of the company coming to do the repair. They didn't answer texts, emails, or telephone calls. They came when I wasn't home. I wanted them to come when I was here so I could understand the problem and what was fixed. I was not given that opportunity and that was frustrating.

    When I communicated that to the company, “Please don't come. I have an appointment. Can you keep the scheduled appointment that we had?” I had no response. When I tried to leave a voicemail, their voicemail box was full. When I looked up the company online for a review, the consensus was that they don't communicate with you at all. I feel, as the consumer, we should have the opportunity to schedule the appointment at a time that works for our schedule. They did fix the problem, and we have that independently verified by another pool company.

    Another item we had looked at was an evaporative cooler, and the technician said, “This is broken. I can't fix it. I am going to let the warranty company know that you should be cashed out for whatever the value that they can give you for this. Because it's broken.” Even though it's under warranty, it's not repairable. What was frustrating is that American Home Shield denied that. They quoted some chapter and verse in their documentation that said, “We're not going to give you anything.” There's no monetary compensation because of some obscure language in the contract. So, that was really disappointing. When I called to make the appointment for a service guy to come, they said, “Oh, yeah, that’s a covered warranty item.” Then, they pulled the bait-and-switch on me and said, “Oh, no, we're not covering that.” So, I was out $85.

    If they aren't going to cover something, then they should tell people upfront. Other than that, we had another issue with refrigerator door seals. The gaskets are broken. The guy is fantastic. They’re ordering the parts and he’s in communication. He knows what he's doing. He's really professional, and I would recommend him highly.

    We have American Home Shield on several properties. Something happened earlier this year that was wrong and soured us. We had a refrigerator that went out. The service tech pulled it out. It was leaking at the back and was dead. He said it would have to be replaced. That was on a Friday before a holiday Monday. I started calling on Tuesday 'cause I had no refrigerator. That whole next week, the office of the vendor repeatedly said they would get the report out. Finally, they came back and American Home Shield said there was no mechanical failure. In the meantime, I had to go out and buy a refrigerator. It went back and forth between the vendor who was telling us, "That's not what we put on the report," and American Home Shield saying, "That's what was put on the report." We never got anything out of that refrigerator. The vendor was also rude on the phone

    Last Friday, we had a dishwasher delivered. When they went to install it, the unit was damaged in transit. The tech took out the dishwasher, put the other one in, turned it on, and it leaked. They had to take it out and reinstall the other one. Overall, I'm not 100% happy with American Home Shield. I'm particularly unhappy about the refrigerator. I was not happy with the AC claim too. The contract says, all parts and components of an AC are covered but American Home Shield gave us $800 for the $6,400 AC.

    I recently lost my husband and I was worried about home insurance. I called American Home Shield to get information and decided to sign up. When I discovered my husband had paid another company that was still valid until January 1, 2023, I called to cancel. The representative refused to respect my wishes and kept trying to tell me how great they were and on and on. I finally got nasty and told her to shut up and listen. I don't want to pay for additional insurance when I already have it. Refused to listen, kept talking. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but she would not allow that either.

    After 20 minutes of doing battle, she finally said she would cancel the policy that doesn't even start until Sept. 1st. and she would send a confirmation email. Still have not received it. Why can't sales people just accept your decision? Why can't we just cancel online instead of going through all the rig-a-ma-roll? After this experience, I will never consider them. I'm grieving the recent death of my husband and I just can't deal with this kind of stress.

    Our water heater rusted out and leaked water into the garage. I placed a service request with American Home Shield approximately 10am on Monday, the plumber showed up 4pm Wednesday, no replacement water heater, just looked at it and said yep it's rusted out and needs to be replaced, he then contacted AHS for an approval which he received and was told that AHS would order the replacement water heater and it would be 1 to 2 weeks before the replacement was complete. I called AHS and asked why they would send a technician out on a trouble call without the parts to fix the problem and was told that is the policy and that hot water was not an emergency and I'll get the replacement whenever they get around to installing it.

    On Thursday I checked with AHS and the water heater had been ordered, Friday the same. Finally I called the plumber and was told that the water heater had been ordered from Lowe's and was ready to pickup and had been since Wednesday afternoon. Now the new water heater won't be installed until Monday or Tuesday next week. So over a week without hot water. In over 45 years of home ownership I have had several water heaters replaced and the longest time I have been without hot water is 48 hours.

    I submitted a claim online and made the payment for it. And American Home Shield automatically scheduled. I like that it was within one day. Two people came in. They were courteous. The issue was simple. They just showed me. I did not see the way to turn on the faucet. Normally, there's a knob above the bathtub to turn the shower on. I've been asking people now for a month but nobody could figure out. We had just decided somebody didn't put it in correctly. It's a newer shower thingy. And when the water comes out, you pull the bottom part of that down and twist to the right and it locks. And the tech said that was some of the newer Cohen faucets. That's how they are made now. We joked about it. He said, "Believe it or not, I've had like three or four calls about the same thing. You're not the only one." And that was the end. So, the service was great.

    First, somebody came out and they did the vent cleaning. That didn't work and I had to pay for that. Then the tech came out again and changed a part. The HVAC worked a little bit for a while and then we were back to the same thing again. A different company came twice and today I got a text set up for somebody else to come out. I keep paying for them to come to fix the HVAC. So, I told AHS that I'm not paying another $100 for the same person to do the same thing that they claim they're doing.

    The HVAC is still not working and I have to dry my clothes three times before it gets dry. They said there was supposed to be a replacement but that's not happening either. They're making another appointment for somebody else to come out and this will be more time. Other than this, I would recommend AHS to people because it's that good company before. For whatever reason, somebody is passing the buck or not following up like they're supposed to.

    Right after the warranty was up, the smoke detectors started going off. So, I had to call American Home Shield again and that was another $100. The tech said to change the batteries and they came with a battery but they didn’t put a battery that was gonna last. The guy said that it comes with it. I don't know if they would change the battery out if I gave them a Duracell. He also said that I need to change them, but I can't get up on a stepladder to change them. I like American Home Shield but I don’t like the monthly charge. It’s expensive and every time I call them out, I have to pay $100. I would not recommend AHS because of the prices. The pricing is all I'm concerned about at my age.

    The people who came for the kitchen appliance were extremely professional. They came on time and they were responsive. The service has not been done yet but they are keeping me updated on the fact that they are waiting for a part. But for the plumber claim, the contractor, Heal Plumbing, broke something and they didn't fix it. I asked American Home Shield to take care of it, still not taken care of because they told me they were liable. So nobody wants to take responsibility.

    We also had a toilet leak and another toilet that doesn't flush very well. The techs said we have to change both toilets. I said, "Okay, can I choose the toilet I want?" Then American Home Shield said, "Yes as soon as you pay the difference between what the cost of the toilet is estimated at and the one you want". I was fine with that. As soon as I told the plumber what kind of toilet I wanted, he told me it was impossible because of some problem with one not being standard. I called the company that made the toilet and asked a plumber. Everybody said it should work. I tried to send them emails and make phone calls but nobody's answering me. AHS said, "Oh, you should be patient." So we haven't had a toilet for two weeks.

    Some of the contractors are very kind and they are trying to do their job. I had one where I started having problems because the rep keeps telling me that, "Oh, you have to wait because they are on the field." I told her, "I've been waiting for a week." but she didn't really want to take a point of this. She kept telling me, "Oh, you have to be patient. You have to be patient. You have to be patient." So, I'm basically throwing money and getting nothing in exchange.

    We had a policy with American Home Shield when we lived in Colorado from 2014 to 2021. Then we moved to North Carolina so we've been with them for a year now here. In Colorado, everything was great until COVID hit, and then they couldn't find service people that could come out. But that wasn't their fault, it was COVID. Here in North Carolina, so far, so good. They did the pre-summer service where people can come out and check your AC, and it worked out fine. Then we had a washing machine act up, and they sent a guy out. He pulled the back off and he found the problem right away. The bolt that holds the whole barrel backed out for some reason, so the whole thing was rattling and making noises and squealing. It was bouncing all over the house.

    After I filed the claim, I got an email with the name of the company, and then I got a text from the company. Then we set up a day and they told me the name of the technician. He showed up and introduced himself. He had his name on a shirt so that helped too. But American Home Shield could improve on the length of time getting the parts. We had a refrigerator years ago, and they ordered the parts. It took a while to get the parts.

    The tech who came for the washer was great. He knew what he was doing and explained it well. He showed us exactly where the problem was. I’m new with American Home Shield and I like them very much so far. I had another home warranty company for several years and in the beginning when I did like them, I didn't like them as much as I like American Home Shield. AHS’ monthly fee is higher and so is their deductible. But the service that they offer is more comprehensive. And also, if they have a replacement, it's more realistic. We had a $6,000 oven and American Home Shield would pay up to $6,000.

    I had a terrible experience when I did a claim for the AC. It took several months for it to get properly fixed. I finally got to deal with Westside Air Conditioning. AHS kept trying to send other contractors and they wanted to replace it immediately. One guy didn't even go up on the roof. He just said he'd replace it. The other guy barely went up there and said he'd replace it. Westside tried to fix it and they were able to and save some money. They're fantastic. But when you put in a service request online, there has to be more room to put in what is wrong.

    I'm not happy right now with American Home Shield or A & E service or Sears. A & E which is part of Sears came out for the refrigerator. It will be the fifth time that they're going to be coming back out. It's been over two months now. They replaced the motor in the ice machine but it's still not producing ice. Another guy came out and stuck a little pin in the water line. He said if it didn't work, they were going to replace the door or the refrigerator. That didn't work. They didn't wait to see if it made ice and left. The guy came back out again. He said he was gonna replace the refrigerator or give me a new door put on there. But he didn't make notes to send in to American Home Shield. I'm still without ice. They're supposed to come out on the 18th and look at it again.

    My washer has been out for a couple of months. We've been going to the laundromat and it's getting expensive going to the washer house to wash. The contractor had scheduled to come out and fix the washer. I took off work but never got a call. The guy scheduled me 8:00 to 5:00. I got a text message saying they'd be out between 2:45 to 4:07. At 4:30, I called them. They said, "We got to reschedule because you didn't get all the parts and the part that you need is on backorder." I don't know when they're coming. Up until this incident with the refrigerator and the washer, American Home Shield has been great. I tried to get them customers. I sent my neighbors on to American Home Shield but they dropped them. I got my mom and uncle involved but they dropped them too. It wasn't worth it to them.

    It's been beneficial to have a connection to a vendor who's immediately available to do service rather than me having to try to track one down myself. Also, the ease of submitting a request online through the website is pretty good. Having the home warranty helps keep me from being solicited from vendors to do more work than necessary. It helps prevent me from getting overly marketed on replacing the entire system as opposed to fixing it.

    Recently, there was water leaking out of the heater in the basement. It turned out it was drainage from the AC unit that was next to the water heater. The tech figured out the problem and worked pretty fast.

    I had a circuit box that wasn't operating properly. The lights In my kitchen, upstairs in the bathroom and hallways weren't working. I called it in to American Home Shield. They took my information and told me who would come out. They sent to my email the contractor’s phone number and the claim code for the contractor.     My toilet was leaking between the bowl and the base. The fill valve was leaking. I tried to work on it myself and cleaned the flapper. The flapper looked bad. I tried to shut the wall valve off. It was leaking when I shut that off so I had to leave it on. I called American Home Shield on a Saturday. The service company called me back on a Monday and they came out on a Tuesday. They were prompt and the guy that came had everything. He did a good job and was nice. He fixed my 30 year old two-piece toilet and he showed me what he did when I asked him a question. He showed me the old ring where it was leaking as well as an old part he changed.

    He also changed the flush valve and showed me the old one. He said the old one sometimes lasts five or a little longer. It was five years ago when I changed that valve. The toilet works well now. I'm happy. I would recommend this service company. The only thing is I live in Baton Rouge and they came from 5 or 10 miles away. Other than that, things worked out well. I got an invoice and it was zero balance.

    That was the first time that I had ever used American Home Shield. The other time was for my air conditioner. It was the same day that the techs helped me out but it took about a week and a half for that to get fixed. Also, I never received an invoice with this one but the claim was closed. The only thing that scared me was that when I gave my $100 service charge, I gave it a credit card and it took it out of that credit card pretty fast. What if the technicians didn't show up? I didn't want to deal with that. On the whole, I would recommend American Home Shield. My son-in-law recommended them when I was getting ready to sign up. He said he's been with them for years and he lives in Dallas. Shen I called him and told him, he said, “You're gonna be surprised at how fast they work.”

    The few times that we've had to use American Home Shield, they've been easy to roll with. We can submit a claim online, and typically, that day we’re being contacted in some form by a contractor. The recent claim when Sears came out went well. The icemaker wasn't working. It was discovered that there was a wire that was severed in the hinge of the door. It was advised that the best course of action would be to replace the unit. We have the new refrigerator coming this Saturday. The guy was helpful and knowledgeable. I was impressed.

    I had two separate incidents that happened roughly within a week of each other, and American Home Shield sent people out and got it taken care of quickly. We haven't had any issues with the technicians at all.     Home Shield sent a plumber out for us to fix a sump pump and he didn't fix it. They kicked it to an electrician, but it wasn't an electrician's problem and they charged us $125 for something they didn't even do. We still have the same old problem. I also had a claim where Apalachee came out, and it went okay. It took a while for them to get the part for the oven, but they fixed it. Overall, I was satisfied with AHS. They answered my questions.

    It’s $75 each time contractors come out. I called American Home Shield six to eight times out of the four years we've been here. And their prices kept increasing monthly. When we first had it, maybe it was $60 to $62. And now, I'm on 80. There have been plenty that I have liked with AHS where things are covered. But they have gray areas that are hidden. So, I would think I'm covered but I'm not. There was one where our garage door wouldn't open and they said it wasn't covered because the pulley wasn't covered. That's crazy. Because my contract states garage doors are covered. But it didn't specify that the pulley wasn't covered.

    When I called for this plumbing issue the other day, the people that were going to come out couldn't come out until tomorrow. And this happened on Sunday. So, they found me someone that would come out the next day. But again, it wasn't covered anyway. I asked, “Is it covered? I don't want to pay you $75 for you to come out and it’s not covered.” The plumber came out and said that AHS said they were not covered. But it wasn't covered because it was on the outside of the house and not attached to the house. We would come out of pocket thousands of dollars. But they fixed the AC. I like AHS. It works. And I tell people to get it.

    AHS used to be pretty good. But now they have gotten into this thing that they go to these mom-and-pop shops to get the repairs. They're not always reputable places. One place that they continually would send out stole stuff from us. I made the mistake of leaving them in my mechanical room and running into the house to do some stuff while they did the work. AHS just said, "We'll put them on the list to not send them out to your place again."

    The most recent thing that happened was our air conditioner went out. I called AHS. I had to wait 48 hours for them to find somebody. They found somebody but it was a company that does not service this area. I had to wait 48 hours for them to find somebody. They found somebody. But the place that they found was also on my "Do not send them out to my house. They do lousy work." Now the timeline that they could get to us was even later. I had to wait another 48 hours for them to try and find somebody else.

    I said, "There are people here in town and I can get them. I have already called and they have openings and they could get to me today. So why don't you give me the authorization to do that?" They said, "You had to wait through the thing. We can't do that because we're just now opening the claim." I said, "No. The claim got opened on the 14th." They said, "Oh, no. Those were closed down. Now it starts a whole new claim. You have to wait another 48 hours for us to try and find somebody before we can give you that authorization.” I said, "I've been with you guys long enough. I know that you can do this. I want to speak to a supervisor." They said they didn't have supervisors.

    I was speaking to somebody in India and I said, "Stop reading off of your script. I know that you speak English, but you obviously don't understand the words. I need somebody who understands what it is that they're saying. We're in a heatwave." After that, I had to wait another 48 hours. They still sent me the same people. So this was now number four. After two weeks of waiting, I said, "If you don't get me somebody out here, I'm going to talk to my attorney. I pay you every month. This is ridiculous. I'm already looking at other home warranty companies." Once I did that, lo and behold, they found somebody and they could come out the very next day. Mechanical Repair came out and did a wonderful job. But I would not recommend AHS.

    American Home Shield is worth it. On the most recent claim for the AC, the guy was great. He came in and changed the capacitor. I had it back up in about 15 minutes. However, at one point, I had to have my air conditioner worked on by three different technicians. I paid $75 a claim when the first two never fixed it and the third one had to come and fix it. The first one said it was my insulation. The second one said the same thing. The third one came and it turned out to be the AC capacitor. This is the second time we've had to have it replaced. When the first two didn't fix it, I don't think that I should have had to continue to pay to have them come back out to do nothing.

    The dryer was banging and the heating element got screwed up. Somebody came out and assessed it. Then they ordered the parts. The parts came to my house, and then they came back at the actual time they were supposed to and fixed it. This claim went well. There are other times when it doesn't go as well because of what they cover and what they don't. If you explain it just a different way, then it's not covered. So, sometimes the communication gets lost. Other than that, it's less costly to use American Home Shield than to go and hire an electrician, a plumber, or an appliance repair guy when something goes wrong. Overall, they're great.

    My thermostat just went blank so I got ahold of American Home Shield and they sent out Right Tech Heating & Air to see what was going on. The guy went up in the attic and he messed with something. He said the thermostat was bad and he said he can replace it. He showed me a little cheap one that I said no to. I asked him to replace it with the same model and he said it's only what they have. The tech went back upstairs, messed with something again, and then came downstairs and said he got it to work. There was a loose wire and he fixed the problem. I've had very good service from AHS.

    The guy who recently came was really nice and did a good job and he fixed our dryer, which I thought was beyond repair because it wasn't working. It looks like a lot of work went into it. He had to vacuum everything out and he put in a new part. It was nice that they had the part before they came, which was really nice too because it was nice to have it fixed that day. His company had pretty good availability because I had to cancel once and they were able to get me in two days later. So, the experience is good overall. The whole thing with American Home Shield went really well. The only thing is that the deductible is pretty high. It is 125. When we had it years ago, it was $75 and I thought that price was a little more reasonable.

    My air conditioner was underperforming. I made a claim with AHS and a guy had to come to check on it. He ran a bunch of tests and showed me that there was this deal underneath the furnace. It looked like whoever originally installed it left some gaps where it was a pressure leak and it was making it difficult for him to be able to read the appropriate level of refrigerant. That leak was throwing everything off.

    He said that that was not something that's really covered, so I've repaired the leak on my own. That cost me 50 bucks and a couple of hours worth of work, but I knocked it out. Then, the tech came out again to check my work and said that everything was running appropriately. He also showed me that the vents were actually putting out an appropriate temperature. So, everything seems roughly good to go, except the thermostat has this flashing snowflake symbol that's on there for cold. When my wife looked it up, it said that that indicates that the system is underperforming. It's interesting, though. The thermostat says that the unit is not running right but at the same time, the house seems adequately cool.

    I’ve called them three times this summer. The first time, our compressor was out, and they fixed that. Then an electrical connection was not properly done and they fixed that. For this most recent claim, they came out and said the motor was out. So they got that on order and now, we’re waiting. Over the years, if we've had to call about issues, sometimes American Home Shield had to get somebody from the next town instead of here locally. It would be more convenient and better if there were more people locally that worked with American Home Shield.

    The fan of the AC unit was working. I called and put in a claim that night, and Patriot was the one that was assigned the claim. The gentleman came out the next morning and said it was the compressor and that they would have to get approval from American Home Shield. It took 12 days and I was not happy about that. I finally filed a complaint and American Home Shield offered to pay up to $150 for a window air conditioner. But considering the fact that the temperature in my house was 85 degrees, a window air conditioner was not going to work.

    The next day after Patriot came out, I texted my Realtor and asked if she had a contact with American Home Shield. She gave me the name of the local rep guy. So I called him on Friday and he said, "I will submit a claim. Maybe we can get this escalated." The lady from American Home Shield that it was assigned to did email me Monday morning, but it took that whole week for her to finally approve that Patriot could use their own compressor.

    I had to call Patriot and they didn't have any appointments until the following Friday. Had she escalated that and approved it on the Monday when she contacted me, it may have gotten installed a lot quicker. She was super nice, but it still took too long. I couldn't work that first week. There were four days that I left early because even though I had the portable AC in my office, it was 90 degrees in my house. But Patriot was fabulous. Even the gal at their office told me they would move me up in the schedule if they had any cancellation.

    American Home Shield has added more coverage and I just re-signed with them because of it. The service has been decent so far. If you do a claim, within 48 hours, they are on it. But they need to vet their vendors better. I had a little complication with one of the workers, and I sent it up to the supervisor but nobody ever got back to me. Pronto Plumbing came and assessed the problem, but their assessment was off key. American Home Shield had to send someone else in to correct the error. The second contractor did what they needed to do.

    I've had five claims with American Home Shield and this was, by far, the best experience I've had with them. On a very hot day, in the high 90s here in Ohio, my AC motor went out. It was the third time that I called for that issue, but it was intermittent. So, this was the first time that it went out completely and it was late on a Friday night. I had somebody call me back between 8 and 9 o'clock on a Friday night and said they would be there Saturday morning. I didn't expect that. They showed up on Saturday morning, had the part on their truck and it was fixed within probably eight minutes of the phone call.
