We called on 12/18 for our heater but the tech from Climate Masters who came out never told AHS what was going on, what the problem was, and what he was doing. It was 19 below and we were out of heat for two weeks. We have three children in the house and a dog. AHS told us he had 24 hours, then they gave him 48 hours, and then it turned into a few weeks. I canceled that service. I told AHS I never want that contractor to come back because they didn't do anything. Fick's Mechanical came out and they were the best. Their tech came out and resolved the problem. He had to order a part and came back the next day.

AHS just sent me an invoice telling me that I have to pay another $100. They took the fee out of my account and they were supposed to refund my money from the last person because the first person told me they couldn't refund me because a tech came out. But they never serviced me. Also, everybody I talked to don't speak English. I'm always talking to a foreigner and they are different time frames and they don't know about our weather. They tell me it takes 48 hours for a manager to call me. I do not like this service anymore.

Having AHS, I don't have to search for contractors depending on what needs to be done - just a phone call and everything is taken care of. It's been quick for us and everybody has been professional. We recently needed an electrical work done. We put in a claim and in two days, we were called by the contractor and an appointment was set up. They came out and did the work. It was great working with them.

I usually submit claims online but if I've got something special that I've got to tell the people, I call them up and tell them the special circumstance. The contractors respond fairly promptly. One of the most recent claims I've submitted was for a refrigerator and AHS had sent people twice over the space of a year to repair it. The last guy that came out said it really wasn't worth repairing. AHS gave us a reasonable amount to buy another one, which we did, and I'm still waiting for the check from them.

The washing machine started leaking a little bit and I thought I needed to clean out the little box thing down below. I found broken parts in it and it progressively started leaking a little bit worse and worse. I put in a load and when I came back, the whole floor was flooded. I filed a claim online and it was pretty simple for me and I'm older. They said who the tech would be and gave me his cellphone number. The tech was amazing. He ordered the parts and came back with another tech and they were very professional. He knew exactly how to take it apart and they knew exactly what they were doing. He even cleaned the top and the sides.

AHS saves me money. There's an upfront cost for them to go out, look at most things, and fix most things. They just worked on my heating unit outside. They've sent contractors twice and I was only out $75. Also, the contractor said they were coming at a certain time and they were there.

The dishwasher rinse agent dispenser was broken and it didn't have a top to it. The tech replaced the top that was missing and but it wouldn't hold. We had to call him back and he told me to put a new ticket in. He didn't catch that we need a new bottom part. It had to be replaced. I find that is prevalent with a lot of the guys American Home Shield uses. They make you take a picture of the issue but they can't see what the issue is from the picture. The picture doesn't diagnose what's wrong with the dishwasher. There's no sense in doing that. If it's an obvious breakage in something that's visible, then the picture makes some sense.

Also, we had an oven whose fan wouldn't work so the oven wouldn't work. They couldn't replace the part so they replaced the oven but it took about seven visits to get this done. The guy was trying to make a part that would work but they didn't have any parts anymore for this oven. I give him an A for effort but an F for the result.

This is the second time I've had a home that was protected by American Home Shield. The first time was a home where the air conditioning compressor died. It was a two-zone system and one of the zone systems died. I discussed what the remedy should be and the tech offered something and I didn't like it. We negotiated and I finally got him to do what I wanted to do and it was perfect. I never had any problem with the first time around but this time, I'm getting people who don't know the equipment and don't know what to do. American Home Shield is a good plan if they had better people working on it - more astute and more capable.

AHS gives of peace of mind if something does go out or happen. They cover quite a bit of things in the house. I had a water tank replacement and the contractor was phenomenal. They told me when they were gonna turn off the water and asked when was good for me instead of just turning it off. They communicated well. My most recent one was one for the garage door and the guys that came out were knowledgeable. I had a lot of questions for them and they were upfront about information and very helpful.

Anytime there was a problem or anything that was under his purview, he was always right there to take care of it. I never had a problem with American Home Shield and I'm a big fan. Everything was excellent with American Home Shield the first time. But this last time, I told the representative that I had a stand-alone freezer and the guy got out here and said that AHS doesn't cover stand-alone freezers and it's secondary. I had him him come out anyway. AHS canceled the charge against my credit card and the guy checked out the freezer and told me to buy a new one. It'll cost too much to fix this one. Other than that, AHS has been excellent. The main reason I got it was if my heater air conditioner rooftop unit decides to go south, I'll have somebody to fix it. In the past, the private vendors wouldn't show up or they were too busy. These people showed up and did their job very well. So, I'm very happy with it.

The resident at the property calls and tells me what’s wrong and I normally submit the claim on American Home Shield’s website. I like it. It makes it easy to submit claims and to monitor the progress so it is very convenient. In my most recent claim, the contractor needed to replace the faucet and add a pressure-reducing valve. They said that the warranty doesn't cover the repair due to the absence of a pressure-reducing valve so, I was forced to pay everything out of pocket. I didn't realize I wasn't covered and thought this would be a very simple repair. This was a very unexpected expense. For the most part, American Home Shield has been good. There were a few instances where, like this one, there was an unexpected coverage. So, that leaves me feeling a little sour. And in the future, these things can still come up. So, I’m feeling a little vulnerable with the AHS warranty coverage.

The dryer went out. I filed the claim online to American Home Shield and then I called numerous times after that. I got their representative and our interaction was horrible. I couldn't get anything done with it. When I called in the first time, it was to follow up with an appointment. They had not scheduled an appointment yet. So then I called to get the appointment scheduled, and they said that they would call me back with an appointment, and they did. The technician came out and did the diagnosis on the dryer. He told me that he was gonna submit the diagnosis to American Home Shield on the date of service, which was on the 3rd of January. Then on the 3rd of January, that was what he told me.

On the 4th of January, I called in to see if that technician has submitted the request. There was still no submission of that diagnosis to American Home Shield. I called again on the 5th, and there was no submission of the diagnosis to American Home Shield. I called on the 6th, but still, there was no submission from the technician. Saturday and Sunday came by. There was no issue since AHS was closed. Monday came along, and I got a brand new call from the company and they said that they needed to come out again and do another diagnosis.

At that point, I was like, "What's the next available date?" It was the day after. They did the diagnosis on the 10th. They fixed it on the spot on the 10th. Then they closed out the service request. Everything was up to date and fixed, and I had no complaints or issues there. I've had to use American Home Shield about four times so far and in the past, everything has been tip-top and only this one occasion has it been an issue.

The refrigerator was working fine and all of a sudden, it stopped cooling. After that, it was a nightmare. The first contractor came out and the tech was just coming off of six months of training. He wasn't experienced but he was a nice guy, very sociable and professional. The next guy came out and he had the experience and the knowledge but he said he was leaving. He was tired of the hassles and the supervisors ripping on him for not calling people. So, he left and the other guy came back. He tried to do his best but wrong parts kept being sent. The guy had the correct part and he put the compressor in. They ordered a new circuit board for the back of it and put that in and at that point, everything else started to die. Other than the compressor, a lot of the parts that were sent were used or broken or the wrong parts, wherever they ordered them from. They were sending junk parts because one time they sent a part in a box that the box was too small for it.

A & E was the original contractor and the problem started with them. It's usually about a two-week turnaround. So, your refrigerator just barely works and it's terrible. I couldn't put a lot of stuff in there because I didn't know if it's gonna totally ruin everything. After they were done with it, American Home Shield had another contractor come out and look at it. I showed the guy all the stuff that was done to it and he said he would have to order all new stuff again because he didn't know what to do with defective things. A & E actually put a defective ice maker in it. The test button was jammed up in it so you couldn't test to see if it worked.

The other contractor made one trip out and said that he would tell AHS they should replace it because he was gonna have to order another $1,000 worth of stuff. So AHS decided to buy it out, which was okay, but then they deducted what the second contractor charged to come out. I paid the original 175 to cover the service charge but AHS sent another guy out and deducted the amount from what I could receive, which was a rip-off. They kept that saying they gotta cover that cost. The turnaround time with A & E and the inexperienced worker they had was bad. But American Home Shield has nothing to do with any of that other than they hire the contractor to come in and I was satisfied with the experience with AHS.

American Home Shield stepped up and did what I needed them to do. Last week, the original dishwasher that came with the house went out and they completely replaced it. So, I was appreciative of that. I’ve had to use AHS, in six years’ time, maybe about three times. One for my toilet and one other time, I had a valve under the sink that was leaking. The Lindsay Company came out in September and replaced the valve under my sink. They did the install for the garbage disposal as well, which went out. So, the guy came last week and completely put in a new one. So, I was very pleased with that.

Both who came out were very nice guys, professional and quick. They were prompt, knowledgeable and good guys to deal with. The guy who fixed the sink was very knowledgeable and young. Both of them were right on time. I didn't have to wait and they were here when they said they were coming. Those technicians from Lindsay were fantastic. Before then, the person that I called out a few years ago and fixed our toilet, was a private contractor as well. But when I called for the sink, AHS said that his company was no longer in with the home warranty people. So, they sent me these two guys and they were wonderful.

When I first purchase this warranty program, I told myself I would give them a good year to see how their services and communication would be, so far it has been horrible. I would not recommend to purchase any type of program with them. I currently have Shield Gold and all they do is take your money for each service and not fix the problem. I believe I have had 3 service dispatch to supposedly fix my furnace. It is currently winter time where I am located and the company they send out is the same(XTREME HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING LLC) but they do nothing.

I am fed up with how all companies want is to take as much money as possible. All this time I spent paying my monthly membership makes me believe I should have just canceled the warranty and purchased my furnace out of pocket. And I have currently checked that they have increased my payments from $44.99 to 52.99 which definitely doesn’t make sense if they don’t do anything to solve my problem.

The gentleman came out, and he looked at my oven. The element was broken. He left, went to the store, got the part, came back the same day, fixed it. He was nice. Once he told me what it was, I knew. But he took it out. He made sure that I saw what the problem was. And said, “You're in luck. The parts store is 10 minutes from here. I'll be right back.” It was great.

A home warranty is well worth it because from that inspection that you do, you don't know what could come up as being a clunker, something that was broken when you bought it and just didn't know. Or it didn't look like it was broken at the time, and you go to use it and you'd be like, “Holy crap.” American Home Shield steps up in there. You have a $300 repair bill on top of all the other bills that are coming in as a new homebuyer. AHS will save you so much. They took the anxiety out of knowing I needed a repair.

But they have redeemed themselves with this last call that I made. Houston had a freeze. Because of that, the water behind the hose behind the washing machine froze. The pipe did not burst, but the hoses got clogged up with rust. So the tech had to come out and clean the residue from the hoses. He was very professional. Asked me if I had questions, showed me what the problem was, and offered to come back if the problem was not resolved, according to my satisfaction. I like the benefit that when something breaks down, although I have a handyman sometimes, I prefer to have somebody more professional come in and see if they could resolve the problem.

American Home Shield only had one contractor in this entire area of the city core of Dallas. The tech did come and completed the job finally right. So, I was satisfied after that. It was with my garage opener. The only problem I had was when the guy first came, he didn't do a good analysis of the job. Other than that, everything worked out fine.

I had a problem with my air conditioner and furnace. Even though it took American Home Shield forever to get those done, they got done. So, they do it, but there’s a lot of frustration and inconvenience. Take your chances with AHS. Because if anything major goes wrong, getting to a person or follow-up is not gonna be easy. But it will eventually get done. I tell AHS exactly what I've been experiencing. They would ask questions, and I'd say, like the last guy, “It’s not getting hot. It’s turning, but it's not getting hot.” He came out. He said he replaced the heating. For that day, it was hot. The next day, it was lukewarm.

Before, I could just call, and I could get to a person and he would take care of it. In the last couple of years, it has gotten worse. If I have a claim that wasn't satisfied, AHS takes me around the world. “Press this option.” I can't talk to a person anymore. I have to do everything online. And when I talk to a person, they're in another country and there's a language barrier. It's very frustrating.

They would say, “I will give my supervisor a number, and they'll get back with you.” But that never happens. They would put me on hold and say they would talk to a supervisor. But no matter what I tell them, they repeat their script over and over. It’s where they're not hearing me. And I tell them, “I can't understand you. Can I talk to somebody from America? Can I talk to someone else?” They would repeat the same script over and over again. They refuse to let me talk to a person. I’m 69, hard of hearing.

Some contractors are excellent. Some order parts and they never follow up with their department, so I have to keep calling. The part came in three weeks, and no one came out until almost a month later to repair the dishwasher. When they came in, they put the dishwasher in. The dishwasher worked for a day, went through the cycle. The next day, we tried to use it. It was leaking. The foam was coming out the bottom. I’ve called several times for it. And I'm about to call again. It still doesn't work. But when they're here working, they seem to know what they're doing. They open it up. They run it through the cycle. It works. But it’s not consistently working. The contractor told me I couldn’t talk to them. I have to go back to AHS.

Prior to this recent service request, I wasn't a big fan of customer service. Calling in is a nightmare. I would always call and explain or make sure I submit a service request properly. And there was one service request I had previously where I had a bad experience. American Home Shield had to give me a discount on that one. But this one was different. It was convenient for me to do it through the app. And the company AHS used, and the guy they sent, was very good. The experience was pleasant. However, I am having a hard time trying to convince myself that I'm gonna keep the contract past this year.

I've been with AHS for five years. At this point, it's becoming more of an investment for the company as opposed to a benefit for myself. I get it. It's like an insurance thing. And we pay insurance, but we don't use it until we actually need it. I thought by this time, I'd be able to utilize the benefits of AHS a bit more. But whether it's the stuff is just still kicking or there just hasn't been any significant repairs or something that needs to be replaced where I could utilize it.

I've been giving all this money that the rates of go up every year, but it feels like I'm just donating money to the company. If my rate was still the same or only slightly different from that first year, I will be okay with keeping it. But now that I see what's happening that it's just gonna go up just for the hell of it every year, because it's not like the service is getting better or I'm getting added benefits or features. The price is just going up. And I get inflation, but it's like they're charging just because they can.

The only time that I've used them out of the 22 years and had to split the difference was when I had to replace my HVAC system. Everything else had been covered and my expense was $0. American Home Shield is a great company. They send reputable technicians out. They stand behind what they say their contract speaks of. I haven't had any problem with them replacing an item if it cannot be fixed. I wouldn't switch from them. The price is a little bit more expensive, but as far as when I need to use them, I haven't had any problems. I would recommend them. I had a relative that had lost her husband and I told her that American Home Shield would be a great advantage to help her with her repairs. I also had told my daughter about them and there have been others that I have referred to American Home Shield.

It was a 60-amp breaker box that was bad, so AHS had to send an electrician instead of the HVAC place. At that time, I had a separate claim for one of our plugs in our bedroom that was going bad. So, the same electrician who came out for that claim ended up coming back that same day when they gave him the work order for the HVAC. He was great and everything is all good now. Once I make a service request, they send it to the third parties and they reach out right away. The vendors are pretty good, too. They evaluated what was going on, and they made the determination that some of the parts that they needed to fix were not available anymore. So, they put the claim in to AHS, who paid me to replace my dishwasher for me. They sent me an email with a different selection with the equivalent in value of dishwasher that I can select from. For the most part, AHS has been okay. But we had one claim where the guy couldn't fix it and then was going to come back with a different thing, never came back and then told American Home Shield that he had. By the time all of it was figured out, I kept waiting for the guy to call and waiting for the guy to call saying he was coming back. By the time I called American Home Shield, they told me that too much time had gone by 'cause it was 30 days from when he was supposed to be back and I didn't notify them. I had to file a completely new claim and paid the fee all over again. They also paid the guy who said that he'd been there and he'd never shown.

It seems as though the technicians are limited in what they can do. For instance, we've had a dishwasher that needed multiple repairs that we knew from the very beginning what the main cause was. But the main cause was an expensive cost. We had multiple small fixes because they said that it wasn't broken enough to fix the main cause. So that was annoying. But they had somebody right out there and the people were able to fix it.

We've had to make over 10 claims and 7 of those have been good. I like that they've got somebody who responds right away. They've added that we can now request a repair company, which I like because there were certain repair companies that I didn't like. However, their operators need a lot of work on understanding the process. When I'm on with the operators, it's often that I’m put on hold so they can check with someone. But other than that, it's been fine.

Bear Plumbing was okay. But that guy wasn't super friendly. He didn't do a great job. My drains were clogged. He came and unclogged and it was fine. But he gave me a hard time. He was acting like it was the worst thing he's ever seen in his life. They were just clogged. He was mad he had to snake it. He was asking me, “Did you ever have a home inspection?” He was rude.

The other two times that people came out, it was way worse. The guy, with the ventilation problem in my bathroom, told me that there was nothing wrong with the motor. He told me that the motor needed to be replaced. He said that the motor that was there was working but it was 30 years old and that he was gonna tell AHS that it should be replaced because that was not a standard motor for a bathroom. He told me that I needed to get my vents cleaned.

But then AHS called me and told me that he said that I wanted more ventilation, so I was requesting that it be changed, which is not what happened. He told me it needed to be changed ‘cause I wasn't gonna get any ventilation with the current motor ‘cause it was too weak. Then the person called me and they told me it was denied. Then I had someone come and clean the vents. They told me the motor needed to be replaced. It's the same thing, where it should be covered by AHS because it needed to be replaced.

The same thing happened with the refrigerator when the tech came out and looked at the fridge. He told me that there was a problem with the sealant. He said that the water spout behind the fridge was broken and that he was gonna tell AHS that. Then I got a call from AHS. The lady said that he told me that the fridge was out of Freon and it hadn't worked for six months and that he didn't mention anything about the spout. I don't know what's going on. I don't know if AHS is hiring vendors that are just dishonest, or if whoever is calling me is just spinning the reports.

My furnace was coming on for 41 seconds and then turning back off again. When I called AHS, they said that give them what I know about it. Then they would make a diagnostics with that and then get back to me. They said it was under processing, that they would review it and then get back to me. But they took a while to get back to me. The furnace was out for a total of a week on some of the coldest days. Then they finally came back and talked to me. They said, "We diagnosed what it is and it's the heat pump that's out. We will have a person come in and install a new heat pump." I said, "Okay." That was through Mountain Heating and Cooling. They then said Mountain would contact me and tell me when they would be able to come out and do it. Mountain then said that they would not be able to get there for another week. It was almost a month before they came out and fixed it.

When it burns the gas, it leaves a residue there. This residue goes in and blocks off the fan and that's what causes it not to work. All you gotta do is take a little pin and push through that residue, and it's good to go for another six months. The tech said this heater that I have will cause this to happen every six months. I said okay. I said, "How much would it cost me to put a new heater in here?" He said anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000. I'm not gonna put up with this every so often. So I said, okay. I paid $2,800 to have a new heater in.

Two months later, the water heater went out, and that was another $2,800. We had a problem with it again, that it blocked off like this again like the first time. I called the guy and I said, "I'm having problems with it." He said, "You're gonna have to call another company. I can't get to you right now. I'm so booked." Come to find out, he was doing shady and buying the furnaces that were junk furnaces, not very well made and selling them under the letterhead of the company that he worked for. But he was not giving the money back to the company. So consequently, nobody would honor the warranty for the installed furnace because they didn't install it. But AHS covers a lot of different things. So far, it has been excellent. The technicians that I've talked to and come out were excellent. The only bad thing that I saw was that it took a lot of time for them to come out and fix it the last time. But I'm very happy with AHS.

There was a small gas leak in the water heater. They took care of it really quickly. They had to order a part through the manufacturer because it's still under warranty, but they're doing the work. So far, the vendors have all been great.

I have had problems with AHS. The techs don't come out as soon as I'd like them to come out. But they're here and they fix the problem. So I'm happy with them. At one point, I had thought about changing, because I talk to so many different foreign people, which I don't like because I don't understand them. Sometimes they are very rude and you can't really get through to them. But the contractors are nice. If I've had a problem, they've sent somebody else out. Right now I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. Recently, Furnace Doctors cleaned the furnace. They were nice. They told me what I needed to do to it and how to take care of it.

The techs had come in and they were looking at valves. They had mentioned that some additional work needed to be done. I thought that their initial visit was to take care of whatever the issue was, but they had left without really changing anything. Then they said, “We gotta call American Home Shield.” They have to approve of whatever needs to be done. Then they left.

But then I got a call back five minutes later. They said, “American Home Shield denied it.” I said, “What do you mean they denied it? Nothing was actually done. I don't know what you might have told them.” He said, “Maybe you should call American Home Shield.” I called American Home Shield. I said, “I don't know what's happening. What are we supposed to do next? I don't know what they're telling you guys, but all I'm hearing is something got denied.” I like the fact that there are certain things covered. But what I dislike is the quality of the people that come to do things sometimes is just a little off. It's hard to really gauge if they're invested in doing any of the work.

We have been very pleased with AHS. American Home Shield has really been wonderful to work with. Our refrigerator decided to quit working on us and it ended up being a Freon leak. With LG refrigerators, if there's a Freon leak, it's virtually impossible to find out where it's coming from. They suggested it would be replaced and American Home Shield replaced it for us. But we had a little bit of an issue with Lowe's computing this thing, but it was because of some computer glitches on their end. But we finally just got our fridge on Monday.

Getting somebody to come out when there's an issue is extremely easy. Putting in the work request with AHS is like, "We have an issue with our appliance. We'd love to have somebody come." That's very user-friendly online and they are very responsive, at least on American Home Shield's part. We've had a number of people come out to do different things over the years, some are speedier than others at setting up an appointment.

American Home Shield works. They're a reputable company and I've been continuing to use them. I have a couple of rental properties, and I don't have to hunt around to find a contractor if something goes wrong with one of the properties. I just submit a claim through American Home Shield and they take care of it. When my water heater stopped working, I immediately submitted a claim. A repairman came and he talked me all the way through the resolution. He troubleshot the problem. My pilot light went out, and he re-lit it. However, there are some things in the contract that are questionable that could be better explained. I had an incident with one of my rental properties where the contract said that the water heater was covered. But there was something else that had to be done in conjunction with replacing the water heater. Although the contract didn't specifically say that it wasn't covered, American Home Shield refused to cover it so I had to pay out of pocket.

With AHS, I like the convenience of knowing that my stuff is covered and I don't have a $5,000 expense out of my pocket at random time when I may not have $5,000 sitting around.

Also, I couldn't be happier with the vendors. I've had other home protection plan companies that were sending out people that weren't the greatest. American Home Shield sends me some interesting contractors to solve some problems. Some of them are good, and some of them are not so good. I've had a couple of electricians come out and look at problems. One of the problems was a panel and one of them was a couple of outlets that had gone out in the main house, and they managed to fix that. Then there was some other electrical related problems that were in the garage, which, according to the contract, are not part of the main house, so they couldn't fix that.

Sometimes, it's hard when you go online to American Home Shield's website to identify what the problem is specifically. I recall this with the electrical issue, the options they give don't necessarily correlate with the problem, and so you've got to either phone them or sort of make something up. Sometimes, that doesn't work. At least once, the electrician came out thinking that the problem was one thing but it wasn't, and it was something else. But other than that, the service is fine.

She said they couldn't help me if it was running. It's got to be completely down. Also, I had problems with the fan on the back of the stove and they said that the vent doesn't come inside the stove and they couldn't fix it. I suspect it would have taken even longer had I not been calling for updates and escalating the issue.

My second service request to AHS has now been open for 20 days and has been waiting on the AHS repair "authorization" for 7 days. When you call their customer service number, none of the agents can do anything except send emails to the authorization department to get a status. They state that the authorizations department will not talk to anyone except the service technicians. So you get the same answer each time; "It is still waiting on authorization". The parts were ordered, the repair company came on site to do the install, but had only 1 of 2 coils with them, so they didn't do the work. Since then AHS has claimed that the parts are on backorder and each time I call they say this is not an open work order. They each promise to investigate and get back to me, which has never happened. This spans over a dozen phone calls attempting to get some status. To buy and install 2 AC coils it still requires me to pay over $2K in service fees. We had to kick our AC back on in the middle of winter as the lines had frozen up. The techs purged the lines and everything was good. However, I'm close to the Louisiana border and I sometimes get contractors assigned from the Dallas area. So, if it was in the middle of the summer and my air conditioner had an issue, that might be a problem. If I could choose my contractor, that would be a plus.

We've had good experiences. That's why we keep going with American Home Shield. It takes a long time to get through sometimes. I better wait until I have three hours to wait on hold. And sometimes it takes a long time, like outside of 2020. That’s to be expected. But we were without an oven for three months waiting for AHS to figure out if they would offer it or if they would find the part. Sometimes it's very timely. And everybody's on top of things. But we have had things fall through the cracks a couple of times over the 10 years. But that has been the exception. We had one technician that forgot to turn something in. But for the most part, things are good with the technicians.

The biggest benefit for us has been unforeseen things that would have cost a lot of money. Protection against big things like an air conditioning. It still cost us thousands of dollars because there were parts that the insurance doesn't pay for. But it would have been $10,000, and we may not have been able to fix it. Also being able to conveniently get little things fixed. And sometimes we save money, sometimes we don't on the little things, but it all evens out because it helps with the big stuff.

There was a slab leak that we recently had, and I had the plumbers fix it, but I haven't heard anything back yet from American Home Shield as to how they're going to compensate for the repair. I couldn't wait for them to do all their stuff. They assured me that they would be paying, but it was taking too much time, and I needed to get the house back in line, so I went ahead and paid for everything. But I talked to a very nice lady there who managed to make it work.

I had a previous repair of a dryer. It was very minor and the only complaint I had there was it took too long to get a technician to come out. But when they came out, they had the part in their truck so they were able to fix it. What I'm understanding is that American Home Shield is more of an agency that just assigns the claim. So in other words, they don't actually do any of the work. They're sort of a middleman. If I put in a claim for something, they then assign it to a vendor in the area. Then the vendor contacts me and puts me on the schedule to come out to do the repair or to at least see it in order to determine what parts are needed for it.

If the dryer broke and you've got lots of kids and you need to do drying every day, you call up American Home Shield in the morning but it could easily be a couple of weeks before the vendor is gonna be out with the current process. That can be problematic because now, what do you do with all the clothes in between? How do you do all the drying?

The repair is fairly quick but it took a while to get somebody out. That's not really American Home Shield's fault in a certain sense, but what they should try and do on their side is they assign it, then the place comes and talks to you about them coming out. Then the vendor tells that they're going to come out and assess, and then they have to get approval from American Home Shield. They may have to order parts, and then they'll come back once it's approved and once American Home Shield tells them what to do. That adds an additional delay beyond just a delay to get the person out. That was what happened to the slab leak claim.

The biggest flaw in American Home Shield's system is that if somebody didn't have the money to just advance it and get the work done, you'd be stuck in a rock and a hard place. The plumbers said, "I can't do it until they authorize me to do it. If you wanna pay me to do it, then the plumber will do it." But then, you have to hassle with the insurance company about getting reimbursed. I'm fortunate that I have enough money and I can pay for that, but I can easily see people who bought this as a way of offsetting costs and because they don't have enough money to pay for it themselves. In which case, they're gonna be stuck like you are with a lot of health insurance things, arguing with the insurance company to approve you before you can get the treatments you need.

American Home Shield oughtta find a way that when they refer you to somebody, they know that somebody will respond quickly, instead of waiting for you to figure out if they can't respond quickly, and then they tell you to go back and get another selection. They should try and know what the availability of the repair people is. The customer is left to fend for themselves in a lot of these cases. It either moves along like a government agency or you have to fight to get faster service. To me, fighting for faster service is a failure of customer interaction.

When I submit a work order to American Home Shield, it's very easy. With respect to the slab leak, the people who are interpreting their contract are salespeople on the phone, they're not attorneys. There are a couple of terms that they use in there, and clearly, the salespeople are trying not to have to pay the money out. The contract says a particular thing in it, and if you press and you say, "I'd like to speak to the people who actually approved the job, understand why they are either denying it or limiting the amount of money to be paid to repair it," you cannot get through that barrier. They do not want the customer to actually talk to the people making the approval process. Only the repair people can talk to them. So there's this disconnect. If I disagree with what that person decides, I have no way of talking directly to them.

Both are licensed in state of California.) E & A Mechnical (contractor license company from American Shield) that They said they send the report to American Shield for authorized to replace the unit. Both the company and American Shield closed the service request ticket. I don't know why. Then I called why was the ticket closed, they didn't say why. They said they will another company CRYSTAL AIR, INC.

The technician came out on Monday, check, said it's possible leak but I need to return. I don't freon. The technician return today, he said is the service line is leaking. He didn't check the fan (doesn't work) or condenser which originally company states it was leaking. Then the technician we could repair the service line plus $1300 for freon, while I get freon for $300 on my own. I called American Shield. They said, "We will get you a second opinion." This will be actually third opinion.

I have elderly parent living with me, that the heat in the house doesn't help. I had to send her to one of my sister's house to have air conditioner. I also have documentation from first company stating it needs to be replaced. I'm single dad (my wife passed), living paycheck by Check. Trying to raise two kids alone. This company doesn't want a loyal customer that is struggling with reimbursement of $4390. They already paid $1610 but the replacement the whole Air Conditioner unit was $6000.00. I used to like American Home Shield a lot when the customer service was great. But since they have outsourced everything overseas, I'm not very happy at all. Half of the time, the individuals don't have the same English understanding. Sometimes you can't understand at all. They rush off the phone. They're not really wanting to hear what you have to say. I've had American Home Shield for a long time because it was great. I didn't really use it much. I have spent about $800 on having somebody come and fix my stove. But they have spent about a thousand something in having somebody fix the stove, and they refused to replace it. This is ridiculous. It's been a lot more of a struggle. I've had to put certain companies on “Do not send back to my house” list. They've gotten worse over the last four years. But most of them are pretty good. Somebody came out to look at my microwave and he was very professional and courteous.

I had a washing machine replaced so I ordered it. But American Home Shield had to redo my replacement thing and they said, “It's too old, let's replace it.” I hadn't even replaced it yet. Then the dryer broke and they said, “Well, we have to replace it. This one, we can't fix.” So I went ahead and ordered them both in two separate times. They delivered the washing machine. But when they put the washing machine in, the door should go from left to right instead of right to left. So the door was on wrong. It was on the normal way, but it was one of those reversible doors. They didn't switch the door. So I couldn't even use the washing machine.

For the dryer, American Home Shield said that they would have to do a new work order because they couldn't have Fort Mile come back out. But I called the Fort Mile and then they made it seem like, “I already see it, we’ll take care of it.” When the dryer guy came out to deliver the dryer, I asked him if he could do the door. He said, “Well, I don’t see that on my work order.” I said, “Well, here's the manager’s number and name.” I spoke to him. It took me a while to get in touch with somebody. The dryer that was delivered had a dent on top like somebody dropped it or dropped something on top of it. When the guy was gonna leave, he wanted me to sign his phone and say everything was okay. But I told him, “I’m not signing this. I’m not signing that everything is okay when you're dropping off a dented dryer.” It was obvious. So before they even took it off the truck, they should have been able to look at it.

Between then, I was on the phone with American Home Shield complaining about the issue with the washer and dryer. I was also reiterating some of the issues with the washing machine. I also called Fort Mile and was not able to get in touch with the gentleman I had spoken to previously about the door. Now, with the dryer not being in place, I was able to turn the washing machine a little bit to get the door to open to kinda shove a couple of things through the cracks. But with the dryer in place, I couldn't do that.

I was on the phone with Fort Mile when I noticed the dent in the dryer. I got off the phone with Fort Mile so I can have a conversation with the guy. He told me, “We got your signature on file. I'll just sign it myself.” So he went up the steps, and I was downstairs on the lower level and told him that he cannot go out the garage. So he turned around and went out of the garage door. When he was walking out the door, there were parts from the things that hold the dryer down, so it definitely shifted in the packaging. I said, “Hey, you have some parts. You guys wanna take those with you?” I also told him his bottle of water was on the ground. He picked up the ring that clamps the hose to the hole and threw it at me and told me I was nothing but a Karen.

I called the police, American Home Shield, and Fort Mile. By the time the police got there, they were gone. So I reported this to American Home Shield. I never ever, ever, ever heard once from that guy. Not a phone call nor an apology. I wrote a letter to GE and I still have not heard from them. But I did hear from Fort Mile a couple of times. I talked to the regional director there. They informed me that the people that they used for the deliveries do not work for GE or for Fort Mile. They're independent contractors.

Some of the technicians American Home Shield were sending over did not have a lot of experience. The technician that they sent here when we had problems with our washer and dryer was not that great. Recently, our refrigerator broke. Everything froze to ice and the water dispenser would not dispense water. I told American home Shield they shouldn’t send that particular service crew. They sent a different service crew but it took two weeks. The repairman was great though. He came and asked what happened. He opened the refrigerator and started to do the diagnostic to see what was going on. After everything, he told me there were three parts that were completely damaged. He explained that because of the age of the refrigerator, some of the parts were discontinued. He moved to the next step and contacted American Home Shield.

The problem has been resolved and I'm happy. Everything was very timely. I’m one of those that always speak good words for American Home Shield. We have had them for years now and I like the service. With a big appliance like a refrigerator breaking, we would have had to pay the money out of pocket to replace it. But American Home Shield replaced the refrigerator. They gave us options too. We could go to the website to choose from the refrigerators that they had there for replacement or we could get a Lowe's gift card or another option. We could get a check to get our own preference refrigerator.

We went out to look for a replacement refrigerator. The value American Home Shield gave us was $1,699. The previous refrigerator we had was 2,300. What we wanted was more than the 1,600. We bought a Samsung. It's a new model and we got it for about 2,900. We ended up paying more than what American Home Shield did. But I was grateful that they were able to try to give us replacement price on the refrigerator. I always recommend the service to all of my friends and my family that have homes. It's worth it.

We couldn't get the cold water to come on and mix right with the hot water in the shower in our master bedroom. It was a pain. I did a claim and AHS said they scheduled for a serviceman to come out on the 27th. We were going to be out of town the week after Christmas so I called them in and I rescheduled it for Tuesday of the following week. The plumber came out from Wicker Plumbing and he said he couldn't tell what was wrong with it because he couldn't see behind our tile. I asked if the warranty covers the removal of the tile and he said no. They could either hire someone to do it or I have to hire someone. I told him I have a contractor that I can hire to come in and he showed me how much of the tile we needed to remove.

I called our contractor and he removed the tile. I called Wicker Plumbing and they came back out. The plumber said it doesn't have a mixing valve and he said he had to send that in. He took some pictures and on the next day, I got a text message from AHS saying that this was not covered because there was no mechanical failure. Underneath that, it said, “Customer is complaining that she doesn't get either all hot water or all cold water", which to me sounded like a failure.

I called AHS and I explained the whole thing. The rep said that the plumber said that there was no mechanical failure. But the plumber said that there's no mixing valve but there is a failure. I asked to speak to a supervisor because the lady that I talked to kept saying, “Well, it's not covered.” She kept reading me this stuff in the contract about spa and waterfalls. I told her I have a copy of it and it says that shower valves are covered. The supervisor, Joanna, said she couldn't do anything else. This has gone on for nearly two weeks.

I sent a message on Twitter and explained all of this. I got a message back that said, “We do understand your concern about the open request. I will submit a request to the technician to reach out to our authorization, if they need to update any authorization on the claim. We apologize for any inconvenience.” And that's it. I haven't heard a word since.

The heating made a loud noise. And it turned out that the fan inside the heating unit had fallen apart. So, the tech that American Home Shield sent had to order a new part. He was very professional and prompt. He communicated with me by text. He didn't bother me while he was here working. He came and looked at it, came back, serviced it. And he never came into the house. He just told my husband he was through. We had the car pulled out so he could get in the attic. So all he did was just walk in there and do his job. And he left and told my husband. He sent me a text and said, “I'm all done.” So, he was very good about just getting in and out, and communicating. I liked that. He was obviously Hispanic, but he spoke very good English. And he had good manners and was informative. He was awesome.

Monday, I had another technician come out. My washing machine went out. The tech unplugged and replugged it. And I thought, “That's kind of a raw deal, because I just paid a service fee for a contractor to come out. But I've never heard of that. Your cell phone, yes. Your computer, your iPad, yeah. You unplug it, you plug it back in. But I've never had that situation with a washer before. He was very nice. But he was, “You're fixed.” And I said, “What did you do?” He said he just unplugged it. I asked, “What does that mean?” He said, “Your computer needed restarting,” which I've never heard of.

So next time I have something weird happened, where it seems it's the computer, like it wasn't running through the cycle, I will unplug it and plug it in before I pay my service fee. The other thing was, he gave me his number. And he said, “If you have any more issues, I'm gonna leave your ticket open for a week. And you just call me directly and I'll come back out here,” which was nice. So, I have two good experiences.

This last incident that we had was a lot better than the one before that, when our dryer went out. When the guy came, he said he had to order a part. But it took him a week to get here. And the part took another 10 days. His suggestion to us was to go to Aaron's rental and rent a dryer so we can do clothing. I told him, "Dude, I'm doing about five, six loads a week because of foster kids I have and you telling me that I need to go rent a dryer for that? That's unacceptable." After that, it was a big hoopla because I contacted American Home Shield and they couldn't even get ahold of the guy to tell us what was going on. So, we were without a dryer for almost a month. And we ended up going to another city, which was 20-something miles away, to do laundry. I can drive seven miles without my legs kinking up on me."

But this last time, the lady called me the next day and told me that it would take a week. And I told her that's unacceptable. Because we had a leak up under the sink and our garbage disposal had crapped out. There was water everywhere. So, she put a rush job on it. The contractor was here the next day. But AHS also sent some guy out to assess the damage. I thought we caught it earlier if it wasn't that bad. It was wet up under there, but it wasn't soaking wet. And they sent a guy out here, just right up under the sink, and the guy wanted to charge us $3,000 to pick up the bottom layer of the wood and replace it.

I went, "Three grand? Are you kidding me?" The tech said, "You can turn it in to your insurance company." I said, "I am not turning nothing in to my insurance company. Because my deductible is $1,000 and you trying to charge me three grand for something that I think I can get fixed." Even though I'm disabled, I could probably fix that myself for under $100. I got disinfectant stuff that we used before. I'm gonna spray it down and get one of the industrial fans out of the garage and stick it up in there so it will dry it out. So, I kept spraying it and drying it out. We did that for two and a half days and there was no mold, it dried out, everything's still solid, and everything was fine. And I told him, "Three grand? We probably could've had the whole thing redone for three grand." That was excessive."The guy tried to pressure me and I sat there looking at him like, "I can't afford it. That's more than my house payment."

AHS went up on their monthly without letting us know. I called and told them we don't use it that often. It was $50-some then. Now, it's $84. I told them I'm not too keen on that. Because I was talking to the wife and I was, "We're going to be paying almost $1,000 for this thing a year and we don't use it every year." It would be different if we use it every year. We've been in this house six years, we only used it twice. We have to sit down and look at the variables because I could put $84 into a savings account. And if something goes wrong, we can get something fixed and we don't have to sit there and wait a few days. I can just pick up the phone, call somebody, and he'll be out in a day or so.

I'm trying to explain to my wife, "What do you want to do? Do you want to keep paying? 'Cause it's coming out of your account. It's $84, but it's up to you what you want to do. The last time I called them up and gave them a piece of my mind. Do you have $1,000 you can just give away every year? 'Cause I don't." I'm on disability. I'm on a fixed income. The guy before told me, "When you call in or something, call in for more than just one thing." But I found out it doesn't matter because AHS won't let you put in more than one thing.

So, anytime you put something in, it's 100 bucks deductible. We're already paying the $84 a month, then it's $100 deductible. I feel like I'm still losing money here. And I have to wait. It would be fine if I had two or three things and I paid the $100 and they come out and fixed all three things. But no, it's $100 per thing. You put in a claim, you have to pay the $100. You can't even talk to nobody. If you got three claims, that's $300. That doesn't make sense to me.

Our heat went out so we submitted a claim to American Home Shield. They sent one contractor out who said it was the igniter. They replaced that. But then the heat went out again less than an hour later. We called American Home Shield. The contractor said the heater needs to be replaced and sent us some kind of quote where it said we had to pay $2,500. American Home Shield suggested a second opinion and a guy came out from United Air Temp. They sent like a diagnostic person who said the issue might be some blockage in the pipe. He said he was gonna send his service manager that night to come over so he can give me a final decision.

The service manager came and said we had to replace four parts - the inducer motor, the pressure switch, and two other items. He said if we replace all four of those, we might as well replace the whole system. We waited and nobody ever called. I called United Air Temp and American Home Shield to try to figure out what was going on. United Air Temp said that all they have is that it's the pipe. I told them their service guy said there were four parts that need to go in. They said all they have is what the first guy said. I called American Home Shield and they said all they have is the pipe, as well.

American Home Shield said they were gonna go back with the original contractor where I would have to pay $2,500. For a whole week, we called American Home Shield, United Air Temp, and the first contractor back and forth, two to three times a day. Every time we called, it was a different answer. I talked to two managers that didn't do anything. Nobody came. Nobody fixed anything. We finally found somebody ourselves to come fix it and paid out of pocket.

They replaced an inducer motor, which is what United Air Temp told us. Then, Thursday of last week, United Air Temp said can they send a technician out to replace the inducer motor and the pressure switch. I told them no. This case was put in early December and we're on the East coast freezing and they worried about it in January. I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I'm at the point where I want to find a new home warranty because that was ridiculous.

American Home Shield responded to me and told me who would get in touch with me. That takes another 24 hours, and the person that would take care of me call me to set up the appointment. AHS tries their best to get somebody out here anytime I have called. They've been very cooperative. I'm one of these people that want to take care of the problem before it exacerbates and becomes a big money thing. So, I decided to just bite the $75 that I pay. I pay monthly for the annual amount, and I also pay anytime somebody comes out, $75. So, it was okay. I try to keep my stuff in running order. So, if I call AHS, it's for real. And I seldom do that.

Recently, I heard a noise. So, I needed to have the heating checked to make sure that my central air was operational. Somebody came out and tested it. He said everything works fine. They don't see any reason to worry. So, I felt better. I haven't heard any noise since. So, it has been optimally working. I put in a new order at the same time for my washer. It wasn’t wringing the clothes out. The guy took it apart. He did his stuff and said, “The motor is gone. It's just gone I don't know what they want to do, whether they're going to give you a new one or they're going to just buy a new motor.” AHS took a few days, but he called me up and said, “Okay, you got a motor. They're going to repair it.” It got repaired. It has been a couple of weeks, but it seems to be doing okay. Both people were polite and put on their masks, and they seemed to be decent people.

We had two repairs this year. Kingdom repaired the washing machine. The techs were friendly. There was some misunderstanding that they had to order parts and it takes time. It was over the holidays so that took more time. But it was reasonable considering the timing and circumstances. We're at the cusp of renewing and it's just under $600 to renew. In the first year, we paid $600, and another $75 for the technician to come out because we had an issue with our washer and it was just a $10 part. If we would have done the service call on our own, it would have been about the same as if we didn't have the warranty.

We have a little refrigerator upstairs and a little microwave we use just for heating up stuff. My daughter was gonna heat up her coffee and when she opened the microwave door, the light went out and there was no electricity. So we checked the sockets and there was nothing. Soon after that, we checked all the sockets that were around that socket and everything was out. Then I went into my bathroom and realized we had no lights in there. So I put a call in to AHS on a Saturday and then on Sunday, the rep called me back and said, “I know it's your holiday. But let me go ahead and set up a time.” Which they did.

Right after the rep hung up, the lights came on in the bathroom and all the sockets worked. We didn't do anything. So I called her back to say, “Hey, I know we just set up a thing, but the lights came back on. Should we cancel?” Our appointment was Tuesday morning and we decided to wait until Monday night. Then before closing, I would call and if I still had lights, I would go ahead and cancel it to get my money back. I didn't get to talk to them on Monday because Monday was a holiday. So I called about 8 the next morning, and we both decided to give it two months. So far, my lights are working. I'm just waiting another month or so and then I'll call them and cancel.

When we had a problem with the outside unit, the contractor came out and the tech said, “Oh, we needed this part. You're probably gonna need a new one.” It was around the time that equipment wasn't going anywhere because we were in the middle of the pandemic. Then, unfortunately, we had a cold spell that week. But they came, put a new one in and fixed it.

They replaced the part and the tech explained what was happening, what he was replacing and showed me the part. It was very good. I would recommend AHS.

When I have to make a claim, I usually get someone out in a couple of days. The vendors they have hired are professional and competent which is what I require, especially if they are working on some appliances of mine. My dryer went out and that process probably took a week, not necessarily their fault, as far as shipping and contracting and when to get it delivered. I had to pay a little over the amount to get what I wanted. But it beats paying $200 versus $700 off the bat. When I have minor repairs that I know I can't take care of, I can get someone who's licensed and vetted to take care of it and to make sure it's done correctly. So, I don't have to worry about who's going to do this. I just call the home warranty and they figure out who's going to do it for me.

American Home Shield sent their guy promptly for the thermal fuse in the air conditioning. He got it fixed. He was fantastic. The process was systematic. It's the way it should be. Prior to this has been horrendous. They have sent incompetent people. They have declined claims without a conversation, not even a letter and people just don't come back. It was over a pool equipment. I called the guys asking if they were coming back to fix it. They said it was declined because the cables were eaten by a rodent. It was an arbitrary decision made without even letting me know. I called and tried to talk to a supervisor, but there was never a call back. Two weeks later, I received a letter of denial.

I'm a contractor, too, so I know what denial is like. I help people write denial letters. I understand when there's a denial, it's a denial. I asked them, "Can you show me the policy where this is specifically excluded? Also, what steps did you take to verify that it was a rodent? Then I'll accept the denial." I understand long term, I understand lack of maintenance, I understand abuse to the device, but none of that was provided.

American Home Shield has a lot of coverage. No matter what my problem has been, I've always had people in my area that were able to respond to my call. That's really important to me because I live in a pretty much remote area. American Home Shield has always been there. I had one issue where they called someone, and for whatever reason, he called me and told me that he couldn't respond. But American Home Shield jumped on it right away and within an hour, I had another person out here. I never got that guy again, but I had another person out here and they took care of me right away.

When the contractor came out, they found out that we had two damaged outlets in the wall. They had warps on them, and somehow that messed up everything. They told me that that kept the circuit breaker from tripping back on for that area. So they diagnosed the problem almost immediately. I don't even know how they were able to do that. Then they fixed it really quick. They were out of here in about an hour. I was totally happy. I'm very impressed with American Home Shield.

I have a shutoff valve for the outside water spigot. I would take a drain off, turn off the valve, and drain the water, so nothing freezes outside. But that valve was leaking. So, I had to put a bucket underneath there. It took a couple of days for the plumber to come. I have to empty the bucket twice a day so the water wouldn't run on my basement floor. The plumber tightened the valve packing in the valve itself. He fixed it where it wouldn't leak. It was holding 100%.

Getting through to submit the claim was very easy. It's easier now 'cause AHS has the automated application on the phone. You get an email afterward so even if you miss something on the phone, the email is right there. If it might take a couple of days for a provider to get back to me, I just call the next morning at a reasonable hour and they look the ticket up to get a faster service. That works great. Also, I like the peace of mind of having the warranty in case something major happens.

On December 29, 2022, I called the gas company because we smelled gas. They had to turn off the gas because all the appliance's valves were leaking gas and they also turned off the water on the water heater, because the vent was disconnected and was also leaking water. I called American Home Shield the same day. They sent a plumber on the 31st. He was in my house for literally 5 minutes, didn’t turned on the gas to check the leaks, didn’t even went to the garage to check the water heater. And he reported to American Home Shield that he couldn’t find any gas leaks and that I had to pay at least $500.00 because he had to do some modifications on the floor to find the leaks.

I called American Home Shield every day asking them to send a different plumber that I would pay another service fee, but they refused. Today January 7, 2023, I hired my own plumber and he checked all the gas valves and they were leaking gas. He changed all of them he also fixed the vent and water leaks in the water heater and he didn’t have to break the floor or the cement (cero modifications). American Home Shield warranty is a scam.

We had American Home Shield eight years ago and we had them for seven years back then. After trying a couple of other home warranty companies, we decided that American Home Shield was the way to go. So, we went back to them. I don't like them for their warranty service, I like them more for their responsiveness, the price of the monthly bill that I pay, and for the fact that they seem to be more honest in what they cover. They don't bait-and-switch you. They don't have warranty subcontractors that come out to your house and then just try to milk you for more or be dishonest in their evaluation of what your problem might be saying it's not covered or whatever the case may be. It boils down to their honesty and the value that I get paying the monthly stipend.

I had two claims, and they were two weeks apart for the same problem. It was a filtration problem with the water coming into my house. The first guy who came out took my shower mechanism apart and spent two hours rebuilding the on-and-off component, and saying that was the issue. I wasn't here, I was at work. I really knew what the issue was. The issue was because we have a high mineralization of our water. You need to take the traps in the shower head and the traps in the two faucets in the bathroom off and clean them. My wife forgot to tell him that.

When I got home after he worked diligently for two hours, and put a new showerhead on it, but it didn't solve the problem. It was a little better, but it was not the way it should be. A week later, we called and the same guy came back, apologized profusely, and went on and did what I initially asked them to do. Now, the water is fine and the problem has gone away.

AHS seem to be more attuned to really helping. I had a water heater that died and American Home Shield sent the contractor out, and there was no question. He charged me $600 for a new water heater, which was still fine. He did the job right then and there, not trying to talk me into something else, not saying I needed to call, or it wasn't covered.

After I put in the ticket to have a vendor come out, AHS sent me a link to click on to talk to a rep for them to assess the incident that happened. I sent a video and I was on the phone with the rep and I put everything in. So they assigned me a contractor. Not only was it hard to get ahold of the contractor, but everything kept going to voicemail. When they eventually picked up their phone and called me three days later, they said the earliest they had was on a Tuesday, so I waited.

I was told that between the hours of 8:00 to 12:00, they would have someone come to me. I didn't get a phone call. I wasn't able to get a hold of them, so I was on the phone with American Home Shield. This was 1 pm and as I was talking to the rep, the contractor showed up at the door. I said, “I'm sorry. You were supposed to be here within these hours. Your office said that I would get notification that you were coming.”

The guy became a little bit belligerent and he felt he was being attacked. I said, “I'm not attacking you. Your customer service person said I was gonna get a phone call. What if I had left the house?” He said, “I would have left a note saying that you weren't here. But I'm looking at the time now. I'm only an hour late so I don't understand what the problem is.”

I said, “Okay. So if you were supposed to report to work at 9 am and you show up at 10:00 and you ask your boss what's the big deal, is that okay?” It was really bad. Then the guy did the assessment, and he said, “This is not an electronic issue" and I said, “Yes, I told the rep of American Home Shield.” I said, “This is the issue I'm having. I did a video." He said, “Well, that's not something they cover.” I said, “Then why did they send you out?” American Home Shield has already taken my $75. I called the office back. I said, “I followed everything you asked me to follow. At the end of the day, the person you sent out was not only rude and late, but they also said that that's not something that you cover.”

The rep proceeded to tell me in order for them to verify that, they would send me another rep and if the diagnosis is the same, they were gonna charge me another $75. I said, “That makes no sense. Because when I gave you the video of what was going on, your rep should have diagnosed that that's not something that you cover. And the fix for this problem is not to charge me another $75.”

I requested a refund and I was given to the escalation team. She proceeded to tell me, “We can send another person there and charge you $75.” I said, “How does that solve my problem? It doesn't. You guys are taking my money. You need to give me a refund.” She said, “Okay. We're gonna issue a refund.” I got a notification from my credit card company that I was getting a refund at the end of December of last year. But the refund was not for the full amount. It was for half the amount. So I called them earlier in the week and they said, “Our systems are down. We can't get to your account. Call back in two hours.” I made time the next day to call them, and the person I spoke to said, “We have to open up an incident and do the recording, and then from there, determine what the rep said to see whether or not you're entitled to a full refund.”

I said, “If I do not get my full refund, I am going to dispute this transaction with American Express. You go deal with them.” They told me the investigation was gonna take two days to see if I'm gonna get the full refund. But right now, I'm still in limbo. But the plumber that came out to do the bathroom did a great job. They sent me a notification telling me when he was gonna arrive. I could follow it and track it. He was very professional.

One benefit of having a home warranty is you have coverage. If something breaks, my deductible hopefully is just gonna cover it. I'm able to budget for that. Also, I do not have to find a provider on my own. Hopefully, the home warranty company has vetted providers and they're gonna send somebody.

I did a claim for a stove repair. The element had gone out. It turned out the element in the oven had caught on fire. It also shorted out the control panel. When I got the call from the person to schedule the service, it sounded not as professional as my previous provider because I had several other repairs with a different provider through American Home Shield. I was a little anxious based on that first call. But the technician was superior and I had no complaints about him.

It didn't take very long to get somebody out. It was within a week or maybe even less. The tech diagnosed the problem and ordered the parts on the first day. Within seven days, he was back to install the part. That went very smoothly. The oven is working great now.

American Home Shield has been great. It's one of those things when you pay the payment each month and you start wondering. Over the last two years, I needed them several times and I was pleased with the service every time. The claim submission process is easy. I like that I can just go on my phone and my computer to submit it. I like the providers that they have found for me so far as well as t6he follow-up.

I had a washer situation over the last year and it took several visits. The techs had trouble diagnosing that problem. Even when they would send somebody out to fix it, we would find out later that it wasn't completely fixed. That made me a little anxious. But the fact that you can designate, "Hey, this is the same problem that I have before," and not had to pay that deductible over and over, I like that. That made me feel a lot better.

American Home Shield had to replace my garbage disposal, and I had a good experience. The technician was very nice. He took care of what needed to be done. American Home Shield is a good company. They take care of the problem. They're easy to get in touch with and I haven't had any issues with them. The contractors they send out are good for the most part. I had issues with one contractor that they sent out and I had to ask them to send the claim to a different contractor.

American Home Shield is a good company. They follow through. I like the security of having somebody there if something goes wrong. You just got the initial out-of-pocket and it usually gets fixed in a prompt, timely manner. Some vendors are better than others, depending on what the issue is, but they always get it fixed in the end. Our refrigerator has two ice machines and the upper quit working. AHS had to replace it. The contractor did a great job. The icemaker is fixed and working fine.

The dishwasher was stuck and then it stopped working. The contractor that came out said there was a piece missing. So they cleaned it and drained it, and then they came back with the piece that it needed. They were really polite, even when I was in a bad mood. They still were 100% professional the entire time.

The heat pump was not working. The tech that AHS sent out was outstanding and he had to order a part, so he came back after almost a week. Then, the repair took about an hour and the heat pump is working fine now.

The refrigerator and the freezer weren't working but there was some coolness to the food inside. I submitted the claim online. But when I went into the system initially, I went to appliances and there were two things to pick for the refrigerator. I pushed the refrigerator in general and I went to process it and it kicked me out of the system. So I got a little frustrated. Then I went back in and submitted it again. The unfortunate thing was that the initial individual sent out to repair told us it was a compressor. The second company that called left me a message and I called them back because it was after hours and I left a message. The tech called me back and said, "Well, we don't fix anything but ice makers, so we'll have to push it on to somebody else."

We went through four companies by the time we got somebody to finally come out and repair the problem, which was diagnosed as a compressor issue. The tech did another Zoom with me and he Zoomed and he goes, "Yeah, I got your model number and that we were told it was..." Elite Appliances came out and we had to go through a couple of things with American Home Shield on the phone.

The tech did something on his phone where he reprogrammed the motherboard on the computer. He said, "That'll be for the new compressor if they let me fix it. But I gotta have my people contact American Home Shield and see if they'll allow the compressor." But he had the part with him and I never expected them to have it with him. So, what we ended up doing was American Home Shield denied it to his company over the phone.

I called American Home Shield and said, "Hey, he's here right now. He can fix it right now. Let's get this thing fixed." The rep said, "Well, we gotta wait 24 to 36 hours for one of our master technicians." I told her, "I think I already did that over the phone. But don't you have somebody on call?" She went away for about five minutes and came back to say, "No, we've approved it. He's got the compressor. He's gonna fix it." The tech that fixed it was excellent. He was very knowledgeable. He was very good at what he did. Overall, it was a little frustrating because we went through so many companies that come out from American Home Shield. It's almost like we jumped through hoops. It took approximately two weeks. But in the end, I'm very happy.

The experience with American Home Shield has been hit or miss. The system, as it's designed, is smart and straightforward. But some of the people that partner with American Home Shield as independent contractors don't respond as quickly or as intuitively as they should. I had water damage in my house and I attempted to each out to them to have a contractor come out for my AC unit and the first person that I attempted to reach out to never responded so I ended up having to come out of pocket because I had water spilling all over my floor from the air conditioning unit. The damage was extensive and I had to use my insurance to cover the repair cost but they couldn't get started until the water was mitigated and the source was identified. So it was a big headache and back and forth.

About two weeks ago, the contractor came and finally finished the repairs. I had to cancel with that first air conditioning company and put in another ticket, and the second person responded. That person came out but didn't make an adequate repair and didn't diagnose the problem appropriately. So the air conditioning unit flooded a second time before having my insurance company come out and do the repair. I had to make another request and somebody else came out and identified that the person didn't diagnose the issue or repair the motor that clears out the condensate line. So, I've had an interesting experience with AHS. The person who came through for us was through AHS so that was nice.

Last week, the main spring on our garage door broke and somebody came right out and repaired that. The week before that, my sensor for my garage door wasn't working, so the same person that came out for the main spring on our garage door came out and made that repair. So, AHS' system is a good one as long as the contractors that work with them hold up their end of the deal. I’ve had plumbing issues where AHS responded, too. They’ve come through. It's just sometimes, if you don't get the response as quickly as possible, you have to cancel and make another claim so that somebody will respond to you. But that could take multiple days.

I had two issues. One was the the dishwasher was leaking and then the ice maker in the refrigerator was not working. When I originally called, they filed it as two claims. Then the service company said to do it in one claim. The first thing that they did was a video conference before coming out so that they could make sure what the issue was, and make sure they had the right model numbers and bring the right parts. They were excellent. When the tech came here, he knew exactly what he was doing, and he went right for it. He was a really nice guy. I was very impressed with Gulf Appliance. The original ticket that American Home Shield created was with Sears and Sears wouldn't even come out. My dishwasher and refrigerator are both Kenmore appliances. But they said, "No, we only do separate tickets and we can't do them together."

I bought this house year ago and American Home Shield was already registered on the house. But I did not know that. I tried to sign up for American Home Shield and then they wouldn't allow me because they said the house is already covered. But they kept billing the previous owner for six months. It was a hassle. They kept saying I couldn't change the contract into my name because he had to do it. So I had to get ahold of the old owner. Last week, he sent me a photo that the new contract for the new year he has received at his house, which is 500 miles away. I don't know why American Home Shield can't get the right name and address. I called them numerous times. The previous owner continues with American Home Shield for his new house. But they keep sending him stuff for the old house. It's a mess.

I had a good experience with American Home Shield. I called for service and they were able to fix the problem. The claim process was smooth except they didn't have the exact type of appliance that I have. They offered me an alternative and it was okay. I have peace of mind with American Home Shield for times when the least expected things break down.

Generally, when they send somebody out, they're good. You don't have to look around for somebody trustworthy as a workman. They can help you find somebody good that's dependable. Other than being put on hold for a long time, dealing with the customer service reps have been fine.

The process of filing a claim with American Home Shield is consumer-friendly. Recently, my toilets were running constantly. Even when the tech walked in, he could hear one of them running. He replaced a thing that sits inside the back. And he said something about the plastic part was wearing out and that needed to be replaced, and that was how the water was seeping through. He was able to get everything taken care of.

My water heater died. After putting in a claim, techs were here the next morning to late in the day. They put in a new water heater for me and they did a really good job. I also called them New Year's Eve at 6 o'clock because my sewage backed up. The techs were out here in 30 minutes and fixed that. But that wasn't covered. That aside, I like that American Home Shield doesn't cost me a fortune to have somebody come look at things. The contractors were really good and I like them. I'm gonna keep American Home Shield going.

Our refrigerator was leaking underneath. It was a clogged drain line. It caused the water to pool instead of draining where it could be evaporated. The water leaked out onto the floor. The tech that American Home Shield sent was knowledgeable and had the right equipment. He acted like he knew exactly what the problem could be, fixed it, and we're very satisfied. I didn't have to get underneath it and try to figure it out. The fact that the tech was able to get it done and I didn't have to mess with it, I appreciate it greatly.

When I had a problem and had to call American Home Shield, it was taken care of within a reasonable time. When they contacted the person to do the job, they responded in a professional manner and did what they were supposed to do. I did a claim for my washer when the cycle was messed up. The tech completed the task in two visits. The washer is working fine now.

My only concern is there are always gonna be two visits. One is where they have to come and assess what's wrong and not just take your word for it over the phone. And when they come and assess what's wrong, they have to order the parts and then come back to complete the task. I understand that. But for things like washers, especially when you have to use that appliance almost every day, that's an inconvenience. Other than that, I'm okay as long as they respond within a reasonable time. In the case of my washer, I told them what was wrong and they handled it. They went through the process that they do.
