The dryer wasn't heating and it wouldn't spin. Getting through a rep wasn't difficult. They told me who the contractor was and I was familiar with who they were talking about. I got a call back that same day. They came to my home the next day. The techs were professional. They introduced themselves and explained what they would be doing. When they checked out to see what the actual cause of the dryer not working was, they informed me that they had to order the part and what kind of part it was. They also told me about the back order and kept me informed every step of the way. Now, my dryer is working perfectly.

Everything is working out well for us. We have a lot of coverage with American Home Shield, so we hope we could build on it and see how far we could go and wouldn't have a course to switch to any of their competitors.
Recently, there was a repair that was carried out in the remodeling of the property. After that remodeling, we noticed that when we turn on the heat, no air came out of the vents in some parts of the building. And when we turn on the AC, it did the same thing. Somebody came from Advanced Comfort. He was very professional in his execution of his task. And he was very good. He said there was something that he had to weld in the attic. And he had to clean out the filters that he brought out downstairs.

I had Shield Plus plan. I got it for a 60 year house I bought. When it came time to deal with an age related plumbing issue, they flat denied entirely. When I cancelled, they: 1. Delayed until I crossed the threshold for billing me another period (last call took 25min, only takes a min to sign on), 2. Charged “admin fee” of another month in addition to the month they finagled from the customer service delay.
Tommy,
We do appreciate your feedback and apologize that this issue has caused you to cancel your warranty. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience, and hopes that you would consider joining the AHS team in the near future. Have a great day!

MS Services was sent by American Home Shield for a regular heater. Everything went really well and they were pretty responsive. It took a little bit longer than expected but overall, they did a good job, both American Home Shield and the services company. The tech seemed to know what he was doing and diagnosed the problem quickly and was in and out relatively quickly each time. Our heater is working ever since he came out and fixed it.

When May Heating, the contractor, first told me what the issue was with my unit, they said they had to order the part. I asked them how long it was gonna take and they said that it would probably be about a week before the part would get here and then they would come back. But I had to keep calling them and American Home Shield. I could never get an answer. They said they were waiting on the part and then they said they were waiting on the technician to turn in something. It took them a while because it got cold. I had gotten a thing once that said that the techs were coming. They didn't come that day, so I called and I said that I got an automatic message. The rep said that sometimes, it does that but I wasn't scheduled yet. But once the tech came, they took care of it quickly. I like American Home Shield. They have great service.

Austin Appliance came out to deliver the dishwasher but didn't install it because they said that there was a leak. So I had to call American Home Shield and have them send out a plumber. A plumber came out and said there wasn't a leak. So, I paid $125 to have a contractor come out that didn't need to be there. I wasn't too excited about that and I'm trying to get reimbursed. AHS’ customer service said I have to wait for the plumber that came out yesterday to submit his report in order for me to be able to ask for a reimbursement on my deductible. So I don't know yet how it turned out but they just said they’d give them 24 to 48 hours to figure it out. AHS is fairly good and I'm happy with the service. The customer service is always willing to help. The only thing I would have an issue with is sometimes, the contractors aren't available for a week or two so it takes a while to get something fixed. And I don't know if that's the contractor or American Home Shield.

But I still have issues with my dryer and there was only one company that was suggested. So, I lost my $100. Other than that, everything has been good.

When I called AHS, the lady walked me through and said they'd make sure that whoever comes out, they could check the heat and AC. I felt comfortable and she helped me out. She gave me the information, told me I’d get an email, and that I'd be getting a call from the contractor. So, I went to make my appointment and within the next hour, the contractor texted me and told me that they had an available appointment the next day.
The tech who came did a good job and everything was taken care of. When my heat was cut, there was an odor and I thought it was the heater core. But he said we didn't have that because our unit is using gas. So he sounded like he was very educated about the heating and air system. He said that the smell was because of the heating strips and when it's cold outside, it makes my heater work harder, so that's what put on that smell. But eventually, as the heat stays on, the smell goes away. When he was here, he didn't have to do or repair anything. He said everything still looked good and in place. He also told me to make sure I do my yearly AC/heating checks to keep everything on the up and up.

American Home Shield has been wonderful. The men they have sent have been so courteous and so nice. I'm elderly and I stayed back in my bedroom most of the time and they call when they get to the door so I know to come and let them in. I even left the door unlocked for the latest man that worked on my freezer the last time he came. When he called, I told him to just come on in. United Air Temp was sent for a plumbing issue. They were wonderful. We had something that my daughter would find down in the basement. She doesn't let me go down there anymore, but she comes here two days a week and she would find a spot down there. They came once, checked everything, and said everything was fine and none of the pipes were dripping.
The tech even came up and he pulled my refrigerator out to see if anything was leaking back there and going down through the basement. He said, "No, everything was fine. But I'll tell you what. Leave the spot there and if it gets any bigger, call us back." The next guy came and pulled the refrigerator all the way out and there was something leaking from the refrigerator. He said, "Just clean it up down the basement, clean it up up here, and I'm sure y'all will be able to figure out what it is." We did. They have been so courteous and so nice to me. I'm so glad I got this service. They just increase their price every year. The last bill I got was outrageous.
So, I called Home Shield and the lady on the phone was wonderful. I said, "My daughter recommended y'all to me. Do y'all have any kind of friends and family courtesy for her?" She credited her her next payment and half of her next one. I thought that was great. Also, they gave me a senior citizen discount, which also was great. I'm very pleased with Home Shield. I would recommend it to anybody.

I recently used American Home Shield for the washer and dryer and microwave. The washer was maxed no matter what load you put it on and then it got so bad where it started breaking my glasses in my kitchen. With the dryer, it came on but it stopped spinning. Then the light bulbs in my microwave went out. I called the claim in on a Friday. The contractor came out on Tuesday the following week. The tech said he knew what was wrong with it and he had to order the parts. The ordered parts came in about 10 days later.
Overall, American Home Shield is good, but it depends on what policy you have. When I first bought the house, I was grandfathered in with the contract I had. I wasn't aware of so many things that were like hidden inside the contract. Once I made a phone call and tried to make a claim, they basically broke it down to they can't do that fix because I didn't have this type of plan. That was why I changed the policy and getting everything in the house covered.

They have increased the monthly amount and anytime I have a problem, I have to pay the service fee which is another problem for me. Plus, when the techs come out, I have to pay for any parts that they have to add. Recently, my heater was not putting out warm air. I had to pay $75 for the tech to come out. He said the issue was a wire that was causing the heater not to put out warm air. Within 14 days, I had to call him back because the same problem exists. Another tech came but AHS didn't charge me $75 the second time which was great.
I had added rooms to my garage and tried to extend the heating elements to that area. I was told that the capability of the heating unit that I have doesn't have that type of capacity. So I have to live with what I'm getting or when it really breaks down, I have to get a larger capacity unit. I pay AHS $50 a month and I use the service sparingly. But when I use the service, I also have to pay a service charge to get the people to come out. So for $50 each month, you're just paying for having AHS. It's a double whammy. Right now, my refrigerator is leaking and I had service less than a month ago. AHS will say, “Okay. We'll send a refrigerator guy out. $75 service charge." That’s if they can or cannot fix the problem.
Last year, I had to fight with tooth and nails because my toilet seat was damaged. I called the tech out and he said, “You need a new toilet bowl.” And I said, “Well then if I'm paying Home Shield for service, then they should supply me with the toilet bowl. What service are you giving me?" It’s just being a middleman. AHS has to give me more than just being a middleman to say, “Okay. You need service so we’ll connect you with the service people." I really got upset with them. And it took about three times going back and forth with them before they actually called the service and they actually brought me out a new toilet. If AHS's service is just being a middleman, I don't need one. I can be my own middleman.

The guy that came out for my recent claim with AHS was polite and nice. But the faucets, we had them here prior over 13 years old, and we just did a remodel a year and a half ago. Now, this brand-new faucet, he was telling us the reason the handles are twisted and it leaks is a calcium buildup after a year and a half. I don't know how he really knew that 'cause he didn't take it apart. He just looked at it. I also called American Home Shield today and they said they don't cover calcium buildup. So, I'm gonna have to call a regular plumber. I've always been satisfied with my experience with AHS. But I'm not very satisfied with this.

I had a leaky pipe under my kitchen sink. The tech that came out did that job fine. The only thing I didn't like was I had a clog and then he tried to tell me that my cast iron pipe under my house was broken, that it was that. But when I opened up my cleanout, the water was coming right through and it was clear. That felt strange that you wanna recommend several thousands of dollars worth of work when there was no evidence of it.
AHS has also gone up on the rates for the one that I have. I like the appliance ones, but the electrical, the wastewater, the plumbing parts, you can get cheaper in other places, but there's nothing for just appliances. The only reason why I'm keeping AHS is because of the appliance, but I'm actively looking for something that does appliances, and then I'll cancel AHS because it's too expensive plus the $75 deductible.

For my recent claim with AHS, I had two heaters that would not light. I submitted the claim on the phone to American Home Shield. But Bennett's Heating and Electric had the wrong number, an old number that was listed to an account. They contacted that old number, which wasn't me and they said they didn't need any service. I called Bennett and I said, "American Home Shield says you will be here by 10 o'clock." They said no, it was cancelled by the homeowner. I said, "I'm the homeowner. I didn't cancel anything." They said, "Let us call American Home Shield back," and they came out. It was amazing. I love them. They did well. It didn't take them long. It was fixed and ready to go.
Submitting a claim with AHS wasn't difficult. But the thing is, there were not enough options for me online. I tried it online first but I accidentally submitted three claims. I had to call and get it cleared up. When I did that, everything seemed to work better. Knowing that American Home Shield has excellent contractors makes me feel comfortable, knowing that I don't have to worry about creating a relationship with a repair guy, and who I can trust and who would I want in my house. American Home Shield takes the guesswork out of that for me.

We’re dealing with a claim with the microwave and we're in the process of waiting for the replacement to be ordered. The microwave itself is available right now, but the trim kit is not. Generally, it’s been good dealing with the customer service reps at American Home Shield but there have been times that I’ve been frustrated. I'm still sort of going on with a heat and air unit. In December, one of them quit working and I called another heat and air company to come and see what the problem was after American Home Shield's people had come. They said that they would not pay for the part that they needed. So I called an outsider to come in and look at it and they fixed something. But apparently, it wasn't the right fix.
My Realtor called and said that AHS needed to do something to fix this heat and air because I was without heat downstairs for almost a week. It's been one thing and another and a lot of them have been fixed promptly. But this heat and air is frustrating because there have probably been seven different calls for the same unit. Back in the summer, I went for two weeks without air conditioning. I was having issues with moisture in the home because I was waiting on the air conditioning to be fixed. Also, there were four different visits for the dishwasher and the techs finally fixed it but what they fixed was something that they had messed up to start with on the very first call, which was the drain hose was crimped. It had gotten so that the drain wouldn't drain at all.

Twice, I had to call and get another person to come out. Once, they had to come back twice because they had to fix a part. But I've been pleased with the service providers that American Home Shield has provided to me. The payment is becoming pricey though. I got my renewal notice today. My toilet was running water after flushing. The plumber replaced the workings inside. He was very pleasant and worked efficiently. It hasn't stuck since. However, there was another thing that I thought about after I scheduled him. My garbage disposal is not working, so I was gonna have him work on that too. I wasn't able to get a ticket in time before he came out for that second issue. They said I'd have to call in and create another ticket rather than just have a second repair added to that trip. It would be nice if you could just call in to American Home Shield, say there's a second repair and add a second ticket to the request without having to do an entirely new one.

Doctor Cool called, made the appointment and showed up on time. The guy was really nice and was only here for about half an hour at the most. We just needed batteries in our thermostat. I'm happy with American Home Shield's service. They handle the problem fine, but it may not be worth the money. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them because what I pay monthly, when I add it up for the year, and then how much benefit I get from it, I could cover those expenses myself.

I don't have anyone that can fix anything around here, so I have to rely on paying American Home Shield a little extra and their contractors come out and fix whatever it is or they tell me they will replace it if they can't fix it. We had a leak under our kitchen sink. Initially, I thought it was our dishwasher, but it was a shutoff valve that is for the sink and the dishwasher. The first guy that came out couldn't fix it. He said I needed a plumber. A plumber was supposed to come out but canceled ‘cause he got stuck on another job. He eventually came out a couple of days later and handled the situation. He tightened the shutoff valve and it stopped leaking. He said as time goes on, the valves loosen up. He showed me what to do if something happened again.
I'm always satisfied with the service from American Home Shield now that I have the top-of-the-line. I had to upgrade the plan. I didn't have the best one. When they came out to do a water heater for me, I had to pay $700 for them to make it go up to code and fix everything. When I talked to the sales rep, she said if I had the top-of-the-line, I wouldn't have to pay all that money. I put my other rental property and my own property as well on it. Any time I talked to somebody and they have a problem with plumbing or something electrical or even the central air, I tell them they might as well get American Home Shield ‘cause it's like insurance.

The furnace was making excessive noise when it was turned on and it was constantly running. I called American Home Shield and made them aware of the problem, Then they assigned Bennett Air and Heating to the claim. They came around and looked at the thing. The guy made me aware that the unit is over 30 years old. He checked the noise if something was going on within the system. The resolution was that he did what he could do to quiet the noise down in the computer. But he said that eventually it needs to be replaced. I called American Home Shield back because it was going on a good week and I haven't heard anything back from anybody. That was when they told me about something with the system was not covered. I thought that American Home Shield would have covered the whole thing.
The system in the air and heating system was here when I bought the home and that was in '95. Although I try to keep maintenance on it through American Home Shield over the years, the tech was saying there was no use replacing the furnace without the unit because it was not gonna be compatible because the system was old. So I had to wind up getting a whole new system. When I called Bennett, they called American Home Shield. Then I got a call from American Home Shield about the unit and I told them that essentially I didn't go through. They took my credit information and my card information. But I've had good service with American Home Shield throughout the years.

One day a few weeks ago, the AC was not working, so we did set a request for somebody to come and see it, and when the company came, they told us that they had to replace a part. They were like, “Well, instead of replacing that part, we can call you for a new AC.” The AC that we had in the house was really old. So, they told us whatever the insurance gives for the part, we can include it into the new AC. That was what they did but I don't know how much the insurance covers. I was so confused with that. We had to get a loan for that because I called American Home Shield and they were like, “No, it didn't get approved.” The company replaced everything. They also said, “Well, if you change everything, you'll have AC today. If not, the part is gonna take a couple of weeks.” I have two babies so I was like, “No. Yeah. Just replace it.”
We also had another experience about a year ago with the AC as well. It was really easy. The issue was something on the outside unit, and they just came and replaced it. That was super easy and pretty quick. Also, the fridge was leaking water and we had an issue with the washing machine, too. Somebody came and fixed it the same day, so it was pretty easy. Overall, AHS has been really good. This last time with the AC, that Houston company's customer service is not that good. They came and fix it, and put in a new AC. Two days later, the AC was not working. So, we called and they were like, “Oh, yeah. We have to send a request to the installation team, this and that.” Two days went and there was nothing, so we didn't have AC for two days after getting the new AC. When I called AHS, they automatically called the company, and they called me right away. So, the insurance is really helpful.

We didn't feel like he was upselling anything, which is always a plus.
When our heater stopped working after we had an electricity outage, we put in a claim with American Home Shield. They sent over a tech and this was the same tech that helped us with our HVAC unit. We had trouble with the claim, and they did reimburse us for some of it, but the vendor that they used for a plumbing issue told us something that was false. I had a personal friend plumber come out there who said they wanted us to do work that would have caused us to tear up the floor and replace a bunch of plumbing. One, my claim had to do with central heat and air, and it seemed like American Home Shield didn't wanna cover something, but it was part of the system that needed to be replaced. And I had to get this Susan involved in it so we could move everything and get the work done. But I never get her to answer. And when she does respond to me, it's by text. I don't wanna text. She hands over my problem to somebody else, and that person takes a vacation.
It has been two weeks almost that I've been dealing with a new hot water heater. The top element works and heats up, but the bottom one doesn't. Action Plumbing came to my house four times. American Home Shield wanted to send them back out, I said, "They've been there four times, I don't think the fifth time they're gonna figure it out." They said it's an electrical issue. I already knew it wasn't, but I know they have protocol. The electrician came out, said, "There ain't nothing wrong with your wiring. You've got a faulty hot water heater."
I got a text 20 minutes ago that said my contractor has been assigned. But when I clicked on the AHS link, it came up canceled. I told one of the ladies, "I bet if you were in my shoes, you wouldn't be a happy camper having to deal with two weeks of having no hot water." I just felt like nobody cares. They just wanna sweep it under the door and wish I would shut up, but that's not gonna happen.
If I have to go to my Realtor and my Realtor makes a complaint to Coldwell Bankers and get them involved, that's not gonna be good, because they do a lot of business with Coldwell Banker. But I've had a gut full. I've called, I've argued with numerous people. "I want a second opinion." "You can't do a second opinion." "Yes, I can. Why can't I?" "We have to do a recall." I said, "They're not welcome at my house. You send them back out. I'm not opening the door. Because after four tries, I don't think they know what's going on."
I also got a message, "An AHS contractor is assigned. They will be calling to schedule your service." I click on the link, and it says the same thing, "Short plumbing and drain cleaning." But this one don't show to be canceled. It says they are coming back. I was trying to get through to them. The rep was busy and on the other line. Because when I talked to her earlier and my first text showed that it was canceled, I asked to speak to a supervisor and they told me, "We don't have a supervisor." I'm not stupid. Everybody has a supervisor.

It then takes 10 days to get the parts in before they come back out. Sometimes it takes up to three weeks to get something fixed. That's happened three times. Once, it even took seven weeks to get an icemaker fixed. On the other hand, I requested service for my water heater and that was a quick one. I had a control panel repair needed on my LG stove. I put in a claim. Three weeks later, I had not heard from them. When I finally heard from the vendor, he was 45 miles away and said he was given a slip to repair a microwave, not a stove. It was a horrible experience. I told them not to bother coming out. I had called my own repair service. I would not recommend them.

I had several outlets that went out. It turned out that there was some bad wiring. Northwest Electric repaired it. But unfortunately, to do the repair, they had to cut a hole in the drywall. I called American Home Shield twice about getting somebody else to fix that. Northwest Electric sent them the information. But I have yet to hear back from American Home Shield in getting the hole in my wall fixed. As far as the electric claim, the interaction was good. The only problem is with the follow-up and getting a hole in the wall fixed. But otherwise, I've had a good experience.

Their service is pretty good. But it seems that the rate goes up every year. But that's just the way things are. When all said and done, you're talking about $75 for a service call and it's pretty much covered. I usually have three claims a year and it usually involves my AC or heater. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with American Home Shield. It's a tough check to write every year. Every year I sit in the house and think about not renewing. I had a leak in my toilet. I made a claim on the website of AHS and it was pretty user-friendly. Then, the techs came out and fixed the issue. Their work was pretty decent. The first time they came, I had a meeting scheduled and I was running behind. So they ended up waiting on me to get to the house. They were very professional and very considerate. I like that I can call AHS and they can send someone out to attend to my needs. If it's something urgent, like a heating or cooling issue, especially during winter, they have contractors that work around the clock. I've had friends who had that problem and AHS sent someone out to try to help them at odd hours of the day. So having that peace of mind is priceless, especially when you have kids. All in all, the AHS warranty is a pretty good investment.

American Home Shield is taking so much time whenever you create a service request. The providers are calling after two days and they're giving some appointment after four days. So, it's taking about one week just to get the technician to come to our house and then do the diagnosis. Sometimes, the providers won't inform the diagnosis to American Home Shield and they don't know about that. Then when we call American Home Shield about that, they are saying that they didn't receive any diagnosis information from the provider. Then they will say they are following up with the provider. But after four days, nothing happens. Again, they will recall the service request and the same technician comes out again.
Sometimes the problem is not related to the provider, like when we think that it's an electric issue, and then the electrician came and he will say, "You know, it's not electric, it's a plumbing issue." American Home Shield will say that they will send a plumber and then they'll close the request. We don't know what will happen after that. If we call American Home Shield again, they will say that they will recall the same ticket and they are sending the electrician again even though the problem is with the plumbing. There is no communication from the provider to the American Home Shield.
One more thing is that whenever somebody comes to our house, they diagnose the problem and then they're closing the request. That's not good. You need some ticket that should be open until the problem is resolved. Just getting the diagnosis doesn't mean that the issue is resolved. So there are so many issues with American Home Shield. I don't like anything about their service.
Gopala,

I needed my dryer repaired it was no longer heating up. Technician came out. It took 7 day's for the part to come in. The technician never looked at anything just assumed it was the element. When he came back the timer had to be replaced too. That night the dryer was working. I started a load of clothes in my washer. The technician had moved the washer around to get to the dryer. Me being a single mom and trusting American Home Shield to send professional repair technicians to do the job did not see he pulled the hose out from the wall.
Several minutes later I walked back in the room to be met by water all over my house. I called many many time's. My carpet and some part of my wood floor near the machine has been ruined. I had to pay for fans and called another company to come and get the water up. The price was so much I went and got fans. I loved my floors. The only problem was my dryer. I was told it will take 24 hour's for someone to call me back. The customer service was beyond rude. I am now left with messed up floors because of the result. When you trust a company to take care of thing's that you do not know how to take care of you trust them to do the work and not cause more stress on you. That is what you are paying them for. I am beyond upset and now have more problems then my dryer.

I had a walk-in bathroom installed. Some water had leaked from down there. When he did my panel, he said it was corroded and the panel had to be replaced. I said to the AHS rep when I submitted a claim, "I think some water leaked down from the new tub I had placed in." The tech came in. He looked at it and quoted everything. He went outside, looked at the pipe from the meter and said, "No, it was the water from your bathtub." I said, "Okay." When they called me back, he said it was denied by AHS because they said it was my problem for doing it. I said, "Okay, I'll get back to you if we decide to go with you. We'll get a couple of more quotes."
We called another company. The company came out, which cost me a lot more money. The company looked at the problem. He went outside, did the same thing the guy did, and he said the old house had a pipe that run from the roof and the electric from the wall came through that pipe. It was never covered on that pipe. He said, "It didn't come from the bathroom." Over the years, it corroded from there. I was trying to explain it to the AHS rep. I said, "I'm not calling to argue. But that's what's happened." She said, "We're sorry. It's not one of our companies, so we can't reimburse you." It was a terrible experience for me.

American Home Shield gave us a free rekeying service, which is nice. Then, my dishwasher started leaking, so I called them, made a claim, and was on the phone with them for half an hour, and jumped on a video call with them and they said, "Oh, we don't cover those kind of dishwashers," which is odd. So, I went on the website, dug around and I couldn't find anything about a portable dishwasher compared to a built-in dishwasher. It just seemed odd to me. Even on the website, it says something about built-in exhausts. I couldn't find it anywhere in the fine print, too. Instead of them covering it, now, I gotta gonna pay for it myself. The dishwasher was leaking in my floor. I gotta replace that too.
The guy they were gonna send out called me and I said, "Hey, don't even waste your time." If he would have came out, I would've had to pay 100 bucks just to have him tell me, "Yeah, you need a new dishwasher." It would have been a waste of my time. So, they replaced the shut-off valve but there was still a leak under the refrigerator. They said that wasn't their job to fix the refrigerator part but they effectively stopped the leak. I’ve been very pleased with American Home Shield. I also had a microwave issue and they replaced the microwave. It was available right away but it also had an exterior framing kit that came with it and that kit was not available. So it took several months to get the microwave but I don't hold AHS responsible. AG Repair was sent out by American Home Shield. Washer leaking, first tech came out twice and replaced the gasket, still leaking. Repair company sent out a second senior tech who said he didn’t know what the problem was, maybe we were using too much soap. He reported to American Home Shield that we are overloading our washer. American Home Shield told us that they were closing the work order out, that it was our fault that the washer was leaking. They seem to be in collusion, American Home Shield sends out a repair company and that company lies in their report back to American Home Shield so they won't have to repair or replace an item. We contacted American Home Shield to try and resolve this problem and they told us that we need a second opinion, they would arrange this.
Before we received any calls to schedule this visit American Home Shield closed our all repair orders saying the the breakdown was due to misuse and abuse on our part. We are two people, our laundry needs are not great, this washer is not abused by our small loads of laundry every few days. This is a great scam. Just about every repair company that American Home Shield uses has a rating of one star, only because less than one is not an option. They make up a diagnosis and report back to American Home Shield who are only too happy to go along with the pretense so that they never have to actually get an appliance fixed or replaced. We had a hot water heater that had a gas leak. The first time that I input the request, I didn't put it in as a gas leak. I put it in as it kept shutting on and off. We didn't know that. Before the contractor could come out and look at it, it seemed to work okay. We told them we didn't know if they needed to look at it or not. They called us and told us they were going to close the claim. That was the last we heard about that. I was unaware that they had sent a bill to American Home Shield and claimed that they had done a service. That was $100 that I paid for something that I asked to be refunded because nothing was done other than a phone call. I got that remedied the very next week. I put in a second work order. This time, the contractor came out and took care of the problem. It was very timely and well done. They had to order a new tank and kept us in the loop of where it was.
I had a situation last year where there was a plumbing backup in my house. The contract was a little bit misleading. The pipe was two feet up on the outside of my house that was causing the obstruction. It was the same company, Nowell, that came out and gave us an estimate. Then I was informed by American Home Shield that they wouldn't cover it because it was outside of the house, even though it was causing a backup within my house. That's baloney. I ended up paying $2,000 out of my pocket. I considered terminating the service immediately after that. That has been my biggest dissatisfaction with American Home Shield.

When they came to install it, the guy had a hell of a time getting the old faucet out. But he got it out and installed the new faucet. The next morning, I got up and got water in my kitchen and underneath the cabinets. I called them and they said that they could come on Friday. I said, "No, you don't understand. There is water coming. I need you to come today." They came and fixed it, at least they said. I put a Tupperware bowl underneath there to check. The next day, there was water. I called them again. This time, I wasn't so concerned because it had been going all day and there was only a third of a cup. I waited till the next Monday and they came and fixed it.
After the first time, there was water dripping from the drain pipes because the guy trying to get the old faucet out must have moved something. They came and fixed that the next time they came. I fixed the last problem myself. There was water under the sink and I couldn't figure this one out. It was from the new faucet. It's a faucet that you pull the handle out to make a sprayer. The manufacturer hadn't tightened the hose that connects to the sprayer all the way, so it was dripping. I tightened it and it was fine. The plumbers were very friendly but I don't know that they're all as confident as all of them are. When they came when I had a problem with my shower, they had to come again three times. It was the last guy that came that fixed the problem
My condo is above all of the garages and there was water in my garage coming from my neighbor's garage. I called American Home Shield and explained that it was an emergency 'cause I couldn't turn the water off to the whole building 'cause it turns off to all four condos in the building. They said I had to wait four hours to see if they could get a technician out. If they couldn't, then they would give me permission to call a plumber. I waited till 4 o'clock in the morning to get the okay. I tried calling everyone. I finally went to bed at 6:00 AM. I missed a day of work. I got somebody to come out and fix the problem and I'm waiting for them to pay me the $184 that I had to pay the plumber.
I had to call to have somebody come look at the dishwasher. I called them back the next day to add the oven to this call. The next day, I called the appliance company to make sure that it was added. They said, "No, that wasn't added. They added an exhaust fan in your air conditioner." There was nothing wrong with my exhaust fan in my air conditioner. I would call the appliance store and they would say no. They'd canceled everything at that point and would transfer me to American Home Shield. It took six phone calls to finally get it resolved. They have a very limited script of things that they're able to say. Any of their employees doesn't understand the work or the industry for the orders that they're fulfilling. You're left at the mercy of whatever contractor that they give you. It's been about a fifty-fifty shot whether or not you get a good contractor or someone that's absolutely terrible. If they send you someone that's terrible and you don't like them, you have to explain to them why and they're not always immediate to get you somebody else right away. There's the monthly fee and the service fee that's involved. But for the most part, American Home Shield saves me a lot of time. For a small to moderate repair, I can have some confidence that it'll be taken care of the next day.

There was a cracked basket that was pulling leaves through. They said, normally, they charge for that, but they made it complimentary. They were a great company which I can't say about every company that American Home Shield has sent.
Two years ago, I had a refrigerator leak. The owner of the company that was contracted came out and fixed it. It lasted a couple of years then it broke again. He came out and fixed it again but he left a big mess on the floor. I reached out to him about it but he was rude. He said it was my problem. I also told him that he probably needed to replace the parts, but he didn't replace them. He just cut the line. I ended up replacing the refrigerator after that so I didn't have to deal with it again. American Home Shield wanted to send him back out but I told them I didn't want him in my house. It was a bad experience overall. I checked his reviews and he's got 2 stars and tons of people are complaining about the same stuff. It's like he didn't even want to be out there.
I don't like the fact that American Home Shield raised the rate. You gotta pay the monthly rate then a service fee for their contractor to come out. Technically, if it's not anything catastrophic, I could just pay a company to come out and fix stuff for probably less than what I'm paying. When my water heater broke, they didn't pay to replace the whole thing. They only paid me for half of it. I've been debating on whether or not I'll continue to use American Home Shield.

My dryer wasn't working. American Home Shield assigned Sears who couldn't really fix the issue. So, I said I wanted a different service provider, and E&J was assigned. The E&J technician looked at the issues one by one, which is the fuse first. He changed one of the fuses to see if that would work. It didn't really work. He looked at the timer, and then he looked at the heater. The heater was fine, so he figured that it could be an issue with the timer. So, he fixed something with it. He got a new part, and that was how my dryer started working. It was working fine for the last two weeks.
I paid $75 for the service fee with Sears. Still, they haven't fixed it. Each and every time I do a call back, they are taking more than three weeks to respond. Sears is one of the worst service providers of AHS. E&J, on the other hand, came the next day and within a couple of days, he was able to procure the part and fix it. Our heat wasn't working and American Home Shield sent the guy out. In the summertime, two contractors came out. Our air conditioning made some noise and one guy came out and said it was the fan and he did something to it. We had to call him back out. He did a quick fix on it, but eventually, it kept making a noise. AHS sent a different company back out. He replaced the fan. Now, when our unit turns on, it's embarrassing because it makes a rumbling noise, like a train is almost coming through the house. And if we called them back out again, they would charge us for it because it's after the 30 days.
The guy that came a week ago said the wire came loose. And the only person that had touched it before then was the guy who came and replaced the fan. He may have inadvertently touched the wire. The wire that came loose was actually the power to the unit. So, he might have touched something and didn't put it back properly. That caused our heat to go out for three days.
I went online and saw that the people that AHS sent out recently didn't have good reviews. And I told the rep, "We've been three days without heat and I don't want to be in a house without heat because they're not doing it." So, the young lady said, "Could you at least give them a chance?" I did and it worked out. But because all they had to do was put a wire back. Other than that, AHS is good. If I talk to a person, that person is always pleasant and helpful.

After the second time of calling, they’ve finally both been fixed. Other than that, I've always had a great experience. I've only had to have them fix two things and they got it done. Overall, the service was great. I just think that sometimes they should make sure it's getting done because when I tried to contact them back, I didn't realize there was a grace period for it to be done before they close it.

My keys we're sticking a little bit, and I just called American Home Shield and let them know I'd like to have my front door lock rekeyed. It was very quick. I called, it took a minute or two to pull things up and put in the request, and within a few minutes, they had sent me a text saying that Lang's Locks would be contacting me to do the rekey. They did it and knocked it out within 24 hours. The gentleman came out and completed the job in less than 15 minutes. The lock works properly now. I've been satisfied with AHS. This was the second claim I had. The first one was an ice maker on the freezer that wasn't working, and they were able to get out there within a couple of days and send a couple of gentlemen to correct it. They told me what was going on, and they did a great job.

They offer to replace your expensive appliance with the cheapest available in the market. In my case, they are offering to replace Miele dishwasher (costs $2400) with a GE one or offering $720 since they were not able to repair that. This was after 4 months of fighting with them. They just don't show up and ignore your service requests. It took almost 3 months and numerous hours of phone calls/chats to have someone take a look at it. Imagine you pay thousands of dollars for their policy and when your appliance is not working, pay another $130 and they just don't show up for several months, you are unable to use your appliance for several months and finally, with hours and hours of phone calls/chats, they will offer to replace the appliance with the cheapest one available in the market! Terrible! Stay away.

When my dishwasher wouldn't drain, I went on the website and it was easy to work with. The repair man came out a couple of days after that, and now, my dishwasher is fine. I would recommend American Home Shield. However, for the $75 visit fee that I had to pay, I could have done the repair. It would have been the same if I didn't have it.

Revolff was phenomenal, Home Shield was not. We live in North of Seattle and fly to Vegas to take care of my in-laws. Their refrigerator and dishwasher broke. We ended up replacing the dishwasher. The refrigerator needed to be repaired. They referred me to a company to do the repair. They said that they could expedite the call. So, I called back to American Home Shield, and they said because there was a second refrigerator, it couldn't be expedited. I said, "Look, these people can't even walk very well without assistance." That didn't meet the qualifications. I called multiple times for two weeks trying to get the damn thing fixed. It just circled around and around. I tried to call corporate and talk to a supervisor, and I got nowhere. I ended up having to fly to Vegas three times to get the appliances taken care of in three weeks.
There was no way for me to talk to anybody who could take the complaint and move forward with it. There was no way to talk to anybody in the corporation to be able to resolve this issue. I even drove from my in-law's place across town into downtown and went and knocked on the door of the franchise that they were sending me to. There's a sign on the door that says, "Public people aren't allowed inside." They never answered the door. So, that's where it's at.

We were running the dishwasher and water was coming out on the floor. So, my wife initially checked the door to make sure the door was closed properly, and it was. We also started seeing our floor buckle in our kitchens. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent out a repair person who came out. They replaced a ceiling molding in the front of the door, thinking that that was the problem. On that day, it seemed like it was fine. We were washing dishes a couple of days later and water came pouring out of it again just like it had before. We called the service guy out again and whatever he did didn't work because the water started coming on the floor and it started getting worse. And now, warm water is coming out of the dishwasher. The fourth time the guy came out, he determined that the interior of the dishwasher was warped, which was why it wouldn't seal.
Once American Home Shield realized that they were wasting their time trying to fix this thing, they decided to replace it but it was very inconvenient to have techs keep coming back four times. American Home Shield told me to pick a dishwasher. I could go to Lowe's or such and such to get one. But we didn't want one from Lowe’s, because when we bought the dishwasher initially, it matched the refrigerator. It matched the kitchen that we had just gotten refurbished. So, we had only had this dishwasher maybe two years. It was relatively new so we bought the same one but an updated version of what we had. And once we replaced it, we haven't had any problems since.
When we filed a claim, we had been putting off a repair needed for the refrigerator. So, the guy came out and fixed the refrigerator and the dishwasher except he put the molding on wrong on the refrigerator. So, the refrigerator wasn't closing properly. When another contractor came out, as soon as he saw it, he said the darn thing was put on backwards. So, he reinstalled it. And that completely solved the refrigerator issue, but it did not solve the dishwasher issue.
I thought about leaving American Home Shield on a couple of occasions because one time, we were out of heat in our house for two months in January. It was New Year's Eve and our house got cold and I kept turning the thermostat up, and I realized it wasn't the thermostat. It was the furnace. It was into February before American Home Shield approved somebody to come out and make a repair instead of sending people out who didn't know what they were doing. So, for two months, we had to run our fireplaces in our house to stay warm.

I called to file a claim for my dishwasher, and I got a very hard to understand rep on the phone. That is the most frustrating thing to me. She spoke so broken, and I kept saying, "Say it again. I'm sorry. Excuse me?" The other thing is that she had me get my phone, take pictures, and send it so she could see it. It took me a while, but I figured it out.
My mom also has American Home Shield. First of all, she doesn't even have a cell phone, and second of all, that would never work. On the other hand, our service guy from Superheroes was lovely. He kept in contact, because the part had to be ordered, and he was professional and polite. When he came in, he got the job done and did great. My dishwasher works fine, and I can use it.

After the rain, they gave me a date they were gonna come back and they came back at the specific time they were gonna come back and they got up there and they got busy. Knocked it out real quick. They also cleaned up everything after they worked. I was impressed.

AHS should inform the customer when they buy the contract that certain things such as code changes are not covered. They are not going to fulfill the change of the equipment if the code changes in California if the equipment is no longer made. You will only get a refurbished unit. That's wrong. If the law in California is such that codes are changing, the replacement should be the code. I understand that many people have old equipment and it fails and who wants to pay for new equipment to be up to code if the prices are that much higher. But that should be explained to the consumer up front.
I've used AHS quite a bit lately because there was a renter that left my house in shambles. They replaced some of the items but not all of them. We had an oven that the renter neglected to clean properly. It failed and if it's due to negligence, it's not covered. Also, oil was spilling in the cooktop and it clogged the arteries of the unit. AHS didn't feel that they should be replacing the unit when it was not repairable. They should come up with a policy that covers everything.
Also sometimes, the people you talk to on the phone seems to have problems understanding what you are telling them. They should do better recruitment of people whose English is good. Other than that, my experience with them has been overall positive.

I'm super happy with them. They did a really good job. The things that American Home is covering are a huge part of the budget if you don't have the warranty. There was some kind of deal up underneath at the bottom of the refrigerator where a capacitator burned up. I called AHS on Sunday and the tech was out on Tuesday. He had to order the part and a day or two later, he came back. He put it in and since then, everything has been fine. I like AHS and ever since I've been with them, I've never had any problems. They're always courteous and when the claims are done online, everything's self-explanatory. You just go in there and fill out your deal. Then you get a confirmation email and who's been assigned to come out and do the work. And most of the time, they call within a day to set up appointments.
When the dryer went out and the techs couldn't repair it because it was getting on up in age, AHS replaced it. I went down to Conn’s appliance deal and did an upgrade on the dryer. I just took what American Home Shield paid for the dryer for one like it. They did the same thing on our washer when one of the gears went out on it. The techs couldn't fix it, so AHS replaced it and I upgraded it. So I'm happy with them and I tell people about Home Shield all the time. I tell them that the warranty will save them some money in the long run and it's a peace of mind for everything that's in their house. For example, our hot water heater went out two years ago and if you buy one now the price on a hot water heater for propane is 600 bucks. But I paid $75 to American Home Shield, they put a new hot water in there, and everything was done. That's peace of mind to me.

The garage door claim was great. The tech came out. He addressed the problem. He went above and beyond. He said he thought he got the one that was there. He said it might work, but it would be intermittent. So, he replaced it. He made sure the other unit was working as well. He was in and out in less than 30 minutes. That guy knew what he was doing. American Home Shield sent the right guy. Good experience.
I had a gentleman out today to fix my dryer. And this is more typical of what I see with AHS. The guy came out and said he had tested a bunch of stuff. And he's said, “It's not this. It's not that. AHS doesn't cover this, but your dryer, internal parts are really dirty and that could be causing it. That's a $50 fee. You have to pay me directly to get that, but that could take care of it.” So, I paid the 50 bucks. He didthat.
“Sir, it's really not the problem. I'm gonna check your vent and see.” I said, "I bet it's the vent because we've lived here seven years, and I don't think I've ever cleaned.” He said, “I unhooked your vent hose. And as soon as I did, it started heating a lot better. So, that's your problem.” I asked if he would replace the vent hose. “Oh, no. I don't do that.”
I paid $100 to have this guy come out. He charged me an extra 50 bucks to do some cleaning, which he just took a vacuum, took the back panel off and cleaned some dirt out of the dryer. And he diagnosed the problem. I gotta go to the hardware store, buy the hose, take the hose off, and put it on. This is not why I paid for AHS to send this guy out so that I have to go take care of the problem. I'm not happy with this. I want the guy to come back out and put the vent, replace whatever it is.
This is the second time this type of thing has happened to me. I called and complained to AHS. They never did anything about it. My wife was home, and we had an HVAC guy come out. Our furnace was leaking. There's damage to the furnace. I have three units of those things that they put moisture in the air put on. And I paid the guy privately. I asked him, “How bad are these units? Are they in bad shape? Are they in good shape?” He said, “Two of your three units are in real good shape.” But he asked, “In the last couple of years, have you had some water damage, I don't know, one of these units?” I thought about it. I said one of them was leaking badly. I mean, water coming out the front of it.” And he said, “That's what this PVC pipe’s for. Did they show you this?” He opened the front channel up, which I never do. It was all rusted inside. And he said, “The guy that did this PVC pipe for you didn't tell you that there’s significant water damage to the unit.” I said, “I had no idea, John. Till you showed me that, I would have never known.”
I told him who it was. And the guy was, “Oh my God. Don't ever let those people in your house. They hire the people that can't get jobs anywhere else in heating and cooling.” It's called Budget Heating & Cooling. He said, “They are the worst of the worst.” It's great to know now. I went on to tell him, “What would you have charged me to put this PVC on these two furnaces?” And he said, “I don't know. Maybe 50, 60 bucks a piece.” My wife paid the guy 250.
I want it fixed. I want it over with, which is why I paid the 50 bucks today to get the thing cleaned. That's why my wife paid the $250. I called on the 250 deal. I called them the next day, and I said, “This is what went down. Is this the way it’s supposed to work?” They said, “No. They should have either done the repair or called us to check to see if that was covered.” I probably should have done the same thing today, but I didn't. It was only $50. But the other time, it was 250. Again, they got us. That rectified our issue, but the guy didn't tell me about all this rust down underneath my unit.
John explained how that home warranty thing works and how those guys get paid. And when he explained that to me, it made sense. He said, “He didn't want to tackle any more than he had to. Plus, he was getting you guys for 250 for this other thing, plus whatever they were paying him for the service call.” Today, the guy left but I'm no better off than I was before. And I'm $150 lighter in my checkbook. So, not happy.
The other time was happy. It was the garage guy. Every time we called, they're awesome. This is the second or third time we've had garage people in my seven years come out. Couldn't say better things about them. But any time I have anybody out to do anything with the plumbing, it's a hit-or-miss deal. I even said to the guy, “Don't you bill the insurance company or them and then I pay you later?” He said, “No. You have to pay me right now.” That's not the way that was supposed to go down. So, I'm calling the home warranty place to complain about this. And I want somebody else to come back out and fix this.
I like the warranty. I've recommended it to friends. I've had friends buy it. And a couple of my friends are were, “Man, this is the greatest thing we ever did.” Over the years, it has worked out for me. It's not consistent. But I had so many problems there. The swimming pool issues that were expensive were handled wonderfully. But it depends on the service provider. Also, I'm dreading to call in and talk to customer service. I cannot sit on hold for an hour. Half the time that I do it, a call comes in that I gotta take. By the time I flip back over, they've answered, and I have to start all over again. Those are my biggest complaints.

I had a plumbing issue and American Home Shield sent out a plumber. He fixed it, and it's working now. He did great. He was very responsible and professional. It was so quick. I didn't expect to be that fast. Every time I had an issue, American Home Shield was always on it.

I purchased a previously owned home. I contacted American Home Shield to have someone come out and change the locks once I closed on the home and took the keys. I didn't want to live in a place that had been lived in by somebody else who may or may not have still had keys. The initial contact was online and very quickly thereafter, I received a phone call from the gentleman with the locksmith, who indicated that he had been contacted about doing the work for me. We agreed upon a time that he would come to the house. We agreed that if there was a problem, he would call me or I would call him. I was here at the house at the time that he indicated that he was coming.
The gentleman called me and said that he was tied up in another job and would be coming a little later than usual, which I appreciated because I was sitting here at a house at that time that had no furniture in it. He came and was extremely cordial. He changed all the locks appropriately and had the equipment in his truck. He changed the key system. Whatever work needed to be done, he did it in his truck. He came back, executed the work, and tested the keys with me. I would recommend him to friends. I have held on to his contact information in the event that I needed anything else. In the event that whatever claim I had would need to go through American Home Shield, I would probably ask for him again. I intend to renew with this home warranty.

One of our two ovens was not warming up the way it should. The techs calibrated the oven and that seems to have fixed it. We've had lots of different contractors sent by AHS. Some are pretty good and others are less than good. But during my relationship with AHS, we've replaced two water heaters and we've recently had to do the air conditioner. I give them credit because those were money-saving experiences.

I sent in a claim for the refrigerator. At first, American Home Shield was sending out Sears repairmen. The refrigerator was making a really horrible noise, but they were never here to hear it, so they just quit showing up. They turned in paperwork that said they had shown up and everything was fine, but they had never shown up. So, I got very, very irate at that.
The issue started back in October. I would call Sears to find out why they didn't show up and they said, “Well, you have to submit another claim or turn it in again.” So, then I would have to call American Home Shield and turn in another claim and then wait for Sears to call me back to schedule an appointment. It just took forever, and that happened multiple, multiple times. But everybody's been very nice at American Home Shield. Finally, American Home Shield sent a different business out. The tech had actually been here looking at my microwave and heard the noise, so he knew what it was. The issue was a condenser. When he turned it in, they ended up total replacement.
