I tried to submit the claim online multiple times. I tried to change to a different credit card and a bank account but it wasn't going through. I had to call. Other than that, the tech was very professional. He went upstairs to find the problem and resolved it very quickly. Shortly afterward, the problem recurred. I called and the tech came back immediately and re-flushed the system.

I feel good about American Home Shield, and I plan on renewing. Recently, my air conditioner unit gave out of freon. I was taught the difference between the plans. I came out of pocket more than I would have liked to but I'm glad I have American Home Shield when it happened. I appreciate what was done. They had to get the part to do everything that they needed to do in a timely manner.

I had an issue with my shower and I had an issue with the sink in my other bathroom. I was also smelling gas. I called the propane guy and he tested for leaks and he said to have a plumber have a check. We called a lady and she gave us the number for American Home Shield. Since a plumber from J-Star was coming out for the gas, I had him check the other stuff as well. He didn't have to fix the shower because it was just a matter of how far I was turning the water valve opener for the shower. I was turning it all the way to the left and when I do that, it's not open 100%. He just turned it three quarters and the shower works perfectly. As for the other concern, he installed a whole new part because it was frozen up. I was impressed with J-Star. They were excellent.

Anytime I've called, I got service right away. I called one day, and the contractor was out there the next day or the day after. And the people that American Home Shield sent out did a good job. My toilet kept running. My adult son was there and he said they replaced something in the toilet. The only thing that I wasn't aware of is that my monthly charge had gone up. But the increase in my bill isn’t drastic.

I had a problem with the toilet. American Home Shield set things up quickly and within the afternoon, they had the assignment to a plumber. The plumber was a good guy and was professional. I was very happy. Each experience with American Home Shield is different. There were a couple of times where they had a contractor that they probably weren't aware wasn't as good as they had presented themselves to be. I made a complaint and said, “This isn’t the right one for us, so please mark this down. We no longer want this person ever.”

The techs from Mister Freeze HVAC looked down inside my AC unit from the top. They didn't didn't anything apart, took less than 10 minutes, and said the capacitor wasn't working. Then I got the notice from Home Shield that my unit was damaged and they wouldn't cover that. I questioned AHS because Mister Freeze has a 1-star rating. They only had three good ratings and all the rest were 1s and very angry people saying they cheated, scammed, and lied. Why would AHS use someone with that kind of rating to give an evaluation. But they finally sent me a letter that just stated they weren't going to cover my claim.
I have an old neighbor who has his own company. He sent his guys out and they said the capacitor was great. The issue was a major Freon leak. The tech said, "This unit's old. If they called in the unit ID number, they would have known right away that the whole thing needed to be replaced, because it's not made anymore." I had him do it because I couldn't sit here with 100-degree weather and no air conditioning. If I don't get a better response from AHS with the microwave claim, I'm going to cancel.

I called in about a refrigerator on about the 18th last month. It's a Dimchae refrigerator and it's made in Korea. The first tech who came out couldn't understand the language on it, so he couldn't do anything with it. Then, another tech called me on the phone and said he didn't understand it either. So it was no use for him to come out. Then I got one that's coming out tomorrow, supposed to be the jack of all trades, and we'll see what will happen. I've used my AHS warranty before and there's never a problem. I had claims for my air conditioner and a freezer and the techs fixed that. The service is pretty good and I have no complaints with them. But this time, it seems like it's taking forever for them to figure out the right person to come out and do it.

We were getting a lot of rusty water coming out of the bathtub. When you first turned it on, it was black and brackish, then it would be brown, rusty water, and then it'd go clear after a while. It was almost like a sediment. So, Ace came out the first time and once their tech opened the valve, it wouldn't shut. So, he put a valve on it, drained the system, flushed it, and it seemed to be fine. The guy explained everything he was going to do, told me why it needed to be done, and when he was done, he cleaned up and explained what it was.
But we went on a little trip and when we came back a few days later, it was doing the exact same thing. So, I called back the company and they got right back to me. They scheduled a time and gave me a timeframe on when their tech could be there. The same guy came back and he always showed up within their timeframe. This time, he brought two extra people and they looked on the issue together. That way, he already knew what was going on and could walk them through it so they could figure out what it needed. They weighed all the options and called American Home Shield. After all that, they came and said that I needed a whole new tank. So, Home Shield paid for the tank and the install, then I paid for some updates for the code since the tank that was in there was put in the '90s.

They had to come out the following week but they communicated that though.

Some claims are difficult, while some are easy. There was a problem with the refrigerator and the contractor came and fixed it. They had to order the parts, and they had to come back. Everything is working good. But it took three weeks to get the part over, so they had to come back at a later time. And some claims, American Home Shield didn't treat me right. I had also an issue with my pool equipment that I had to bring a company to do it by itself. And I still have the part but AHS didn't want to cover me because I fixed the issue. I was out of town. I fixed the problem before I got their permission.
I had some issues in the past that AHS couldn't help me with. But I'm still their customer because I need to take care of my stuff at the house, and sometimes, I'm out of town and my wife needs to give a call, and they take care of that. Especially in the summer when I had some issues with the AC unit, and I understand that they are working with some companies that they try to build themselves also. And they take them some time to come back and do the job.
They try to do their work and try to help their clients, as much as they can. Not always it works at the best way. But I will recommend to my friends. Some of them believe that it's an easier process just to get somebody over. We’re having an electrical issue with one of my GFI that is basically jumping, and it happened yesterday. I told my wife to call AHS, and she said, “You know, if you were at the house, by the time that the American Home Shield will come, it's gonna take a few days.” And maybe the company they will send will try to charge extra because they're trying to put some fees on stuff that nobody ever charged them.
I'm debating if I should give a call to AHS. They will send somebody over within 48 hours. He's gonna come and tell me, “I can fix that. Maybe you’re gonna have another issue.” It's easy for me to pay the $75 fee. But the majority of the companies try to charge me a bit more. I don't know and I don't understand why. AHS is working with a company that provide them so much business. Why don't they do it at the fair price? Why do the always have to charge a bit extra?
I had an electrical issue back in April at my rental property, and I got a company to come over to take a look. They wanted to charge me some outrageous price. The guy came and said, “I don't have the equipment. I need to get somebody over.” So by the time this company called me, they said that it would cost me $550, and I got an electrical guy to come and do it for $200. So, why would I pay 550 even though AHS would cover $200 if I would do it myself for $200? I pay AHS a $75 fee and I fix it for 200. It was 275. That company wanted to charge me an additional 550. I was very upset. I said, “You know what? I'm gonna get somebody over.”

American Home Shield is reliable in taking care of the problems and the service is very good. The contractor for the AC was a very good company and I had some appliance that needed to be repaired too. But AHS should have more details on when things are covered and are not, as well as what is out of pocket and what's not. Also, when you call customer service, everything is outsourced and sometimes, it’s a little difficult.

We had two claims filed. One claim was quick as far as the turnaround. The company that fixed the issue was in my home town. However, on the second claim, we've been waiting weeks. The first company that American Home Shield assigned the claim to reached out to me and told me they were coming the next day but they never showed up. I got a call that evening from the company, and the gentleman said that he forgot about the appointment. I thought that was weird because he called me and told me he was coming. American Home Shield reassigned it to another company but they haven't reached out to us about fixing it yet. The date they gave us for them to come out is September 17th so it’s a while out. American Home Shield could find people that are closer and expedite some of the services. The guy who was going to fix our refrigerator the first time was three hours away from us.

We found a leak in our attic. We had a roofing man come and told us that the roof was not the problem, and he took pictures of the ductwork and there was condensation on the ductwork. It was dripping through the ceiling. I went to the American Home Shield webpage and submitted a claim. They asked what system it was. They listed the air conditioning unit, ductwork, and washing machines, and I just picked ductwork because it was a problem with the ductwork. A polite, young man came He went up and retaped all the joints on the ductwork. He said that should eliminate the problem. So far, it's okay. American Home Shield told me that they would buy me a new washer. They could give me a set amount, I could buy it myself, or I could get one through Lowe's. I got one through Lowe's but I upgraded to a better washer and I paid the difference. The process was pretty fast and took about two or three weeks.
I have an ongoing claim for the air conditioner in my son's room. That has taken me a while. The guys from Argo told me they'd be here last Monday but they didn't show up. And then they told me they'd be here Wednesday but they didn't show up. They then called me and said they would be there Thursday. They show up on Thursday and said that it looked like the compressor was out on it. They said I would hear back from them or American Home Shield. But I didn't hear anything. I called on Monday and they said that American Home Shield was ordering the part and that I needed to talk to them. The guy that came out was good but he didn't have what I requested. I requested a stoppage removal and I had a spot on my ceiling in my other bathroom that he said he didn't get. They did the stoppage of my tub. But I haven't told them that the water pressure in my sink in that bathroom is low for some reason. The customer service is very quick and effective, from the time I put a claim to the point where the contracting company is coming for service, they were doing the right follow-up. I started experiencing some technical difficulties with my air conditioning and I had to call several times to request service. The company that was providing the service came over and they tried to fix it. They did a quick fix and then, two months later, I had to call up AHS again. They were very patient and listened to my frustration about what was going on. The same company came over, took a look at it, and fixed the issue. Our AC system quit working. It stopped blowing, it was freezing up, and the inside air handler and ductwork filled with 20 gallons of water poured into my house. Ace Heating & Cooling changed the capacitor and vacuumed out the water. Was supposed to submit to AHS a quote to replace the air duct. But they never did it. The AC stopped working again, and then it started growing mold on the blower fan, and then they submitted a claim to AHS for it. AHS denied the claim because, now, it had bacterial growth. But it had a growth on it because of the 20 gallons it was dumping inside my house that they never submitted with AHS before. So, I am not really happy at all about the whole situation. I'm really pissed. The interaction with the techs was okay, though. The first guy barely spoke any English, but then the second guy was okay.

American Home Shield held up their end of the bargain, completing our repairs in a timely manner and the customer service representatives were very nice and knowledgeable. One of the claims took a while because they couldn't find a contractor. They never got back to me, or I had to go call and figure out why nobody came up to fix it. But eventually, AHS took care of it. So, they complied with our agreement. Other than that, they did repair for everything.
I haven't had to come out of pocket other than the last one, which was for a fan. That irritated me a little bit. The vendor they hired came out and said he checked all the electrical and the fan wasn't working, but there's electricity to the fan. So, he said that in order for him to fix the fan, I would need to put in another claim, which I did. AHS labeled it as Act of God, because supposedly there was a lightning strike that caused the fan to go out, and Acts of God are not covered. The tech didn’t even go to the property and I lost money on that one for no apparent reason. I got charged for putting in a claim when they knew for a fact that there were lightning strikes and didn't even need to come out. But that's not exactly American Home Shield’s fault.

I had two claims. One was for the garage door and the other was for my doorbell that wasn't working. I had a new tenant coming in. Initially, asked for both issues to be serviced because I thought it was electrical and the doorbell and the garage would be the same. The customer service guy said, “Yeah, they're both the same. It should be both assigned to the same person." But when the person came, he said they don't service doorbells. I had to call American Home Shield back and they assigned me the second person for the doorbell.
A service tech came to see what was wrong with the doorbell. It was working from the back of the house but not the front. He ended up replacing the chime. It was very simple and fast. The guy was very nice, professional, and efficient. He didn’t waste time because he knew what he was doing. There were no extra sales like some other people do. I appreciated that.
It would have been better if both issues were done at the same time but I understand. American Home Shield assumed because they do the electrical, they would do both. It turned out that wasn’t the case. The second guy who came could have done both. In the end, it was a little inconvenient but it was not a deal-breaker for me. I was satisfied. I have multiple properties and I've been trying different companies. I like American Home Shield and the quality of people they send. I hope they maintain their quality people and that would make me happy to continue to pay for them. Otherwise, it's not worth the money.

The contractor recently came out for a refrigerator. I had visible smoke coming out of the bottom of it. At first, I didn't get a phone call from the company for a couple days. I tried calling the company, but I wasn't getting ahold of anyone. But Friday at 6 o'clock, someone called me. I couldn't get to it because we have a couple of small kids and we were making dinner. They left a voice message and said something about an appointment available for some time the following week. But when I tried to call back to confirm, I couldn't get that for a couple of days again. So, I called back American Home Shield. I said, “I need some help. I don't really know what's going on.” They were able to get ahold of the contractor and confirm it was for the following Friday, that it was on the schedule, and someone would come out. I didn't know that that was happening.
The contractor was professional. I did the video call to assess the situation. That was also very easy and the person was polite. They did what they needed to do. And the person that came out was professional and able to make the solution. They were able to identify it right away. That was nice. But I still have a leak. And they ordered a part for me. I have the part at my house. I'm still waiting for a phone call from American Home Shield. I called them today and they said someone would call me back.

I wasn't happy that I had to wait six weeks to get my air conditioner repaired. I was still a bit surprised that I had to pay 500 bucks on top of the Home Shield deductible. But that was mostly for the lost refrigerant, which Home Shield only pays at $10 a pound, and it actually cost about $175 a pound.

We have an Electrolux washing machine. It was worked on twice by two different appliance people. The first one was A&E. Within days, the problem was still there. I called again and American Home Shield set me up with Pacific Appliance Repair. Their tech came out and he knew exactly what the problem was. It was the drain pump. He had to order it and about a week later, he was able to get the pump in. He came to the house and replaced it.
Pacific Appliance Repair was great. But because A&E didn’t fix the problem, I had to pay double for service calls. I was pissed. I did not complain to American Home Shield about it mainly because I had been dealing with this for about three to four weeks. I wanted it off my plate. My husband said there was a credit of $108 that showed up on our credit card. I'm not sure if that was a refund of maybe one of the two services. Overall, American Home Shield has done fine by us and it is well worth the cost of the yearly fee.

All of a sudden, the control panel on the front of my dishwasher was not working. I filed a claim, the repairman came out to my house. He said that the part that I needed to replace that control panel was not available and he was sending the report to American Home Shield. In three days, AHS sent me an email to pick out a dishwasher. But I didn't understand that some of the options were zero payment and some were 120. So, I had to pay $126 beyond what AHS paid because I wanted to make sure it was the correct fit. The one they said was the best pick for me, was unavailable. So, I had to go with one that I had to pay an extra $126. Other than that, I recommend AHS.

American Home Shield gave me the name of the contractor for my claim and the time that they would be arriving. They were excellent. There was one hose that was clogged and their tech unclogged that. We were also low on Freon and the tech explained to me how my warranty only covered $10 and that I was responsible for the rest of it. I paid for that. That fixed the problem and it's been nice. My experience with AHS has been HORRIBLE. My A/C was not working right. We submitted a claim and the technician said we needed more refrigerant (that's out of pocket for me, as AHS doesn't cover). We refilled, but the problem continued. The same technician came out again, and said we needed to refill AGAIN. So, again we paid out of pocket. The problem continued, so AHS sent out another company. That company said I needed 14lbs of refrigerant, costing me $1,500. Oddly enough - my unit only holds 5.5 lbs of refrigerant. I had a couple of outside contractors look at it and they identified a leak in the condenser coil (duh!).
A third vendor came out from AHS, confirmed the condenser coil assessment, but instead of writing a diagnosis, wrote in my file that AHS needed to give this work to another contractor as they were too busy (nobody contacted me to tell me this, I had to call to find out what happened). So, now my options are getting service provider #1 that just keeps refilling refrigerant or provider #2 that is clearly trying to steal from me. I've spent a combined 6+ hours on this claim between phone calls and service visits and have nothing to show for it except for several hundred dollars out of pocket. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. This is not a warranty company, it is a SCAM.

You people have to realize and be aware of what all of these warranty so-called companies are all about. American Home Shield is nothing more than a liaison between you and local contractors in your neighborhood. That's it. They are an introduction service. This can also be extrapolated out to auto warranty companies as well. You will see one star reviews up and down all across the board for them as well. The reason why is there is no quality control and there are so many bad reviews is that it's not American home Shield that is servicing you. It's the local plumber. So the local plumber comes out and makes up a fake bill because they are not satisfied as to what is American home Shield is going to pay them.
Remember American home Shield works with these "assigned contractors" at reduced rates. So now when the plumber comes out he'll get $30 for example from American home Shield that's the price he pays for being contracted with this 800-number type company. He's not going to be happy with the $30 so he makes up a fake bill and a fraudulent issue so that he can get paid more. You might also notice in the contract that they are permitted to use used parts that they get from the used car lot so to speak not new parts but used parts to fix your appliances.
Also remember that there are no way going to be able to survive and pay your replacement bills for appliances. They will not replace a $3000 refrigerator for another $3000 refrigerator. They will not replace a $20,000 HVAC system with another $20,000 HVAC system. If you're fooling yourself into believing that then that's something you should reconsider. They're only collecting about $500 per year per customer. Think about it appliances repairs maintenance or replacements along with salaries for their paid Philippine answering teams which had absolutely no knowledge of the company or what's going on and everything is completely scripted, but they need to be paid to this not much meat left on the bone to actually pay to repair your appliances so you'll get the runaround you'll get fake parts you wait six months you'll fix something and it will break down a week later.
The plumber will come out deliberately and put a defective part incident has to come back next week and do it again because don't forget he's also scanning from American home Shield as well so that he can collect as much money because if the work honestly he would not be able to survive. These warranty companies pay these providers a nominal fee to participate and get "business". With all that in mind it's better to just get new appliances and have a five year warranty on them for all parts or replacements if they're brand-new you'll have no issues in getting something like that. Older homes with older appliances you will be in for a nightmare as well as plumbing problems as well. I never will buy a used home for that reason.
All of my purchases are brand-new construction homes where in this worry can never become a reality. Same with a new car. Buy a new car and immediately buy the extended warranty from the dealership with no exclusions whatsoever and you'll be fine as well. It's when you buy these older homes with older appliances and then expect this company to actually repair them replace them is when you will find out the hard way that the stress and anxiety and time out of your life lost business waiting at home six hours having the guy not show up living without air-conditioning for six months in the middle of the summer all of that you going to be up against when you are dealing with this company or any other home warranty appliance company as well.
This is the reason you are seeing so many one star reviews because people buying these plans and expect to get $6000 worth of services for $600 per year and that's not going to happen. If your HVAC unit really does break down and is $20,000 to replace and I promise you they will not replace it for you. They will patch it up with bubblegum and matchsticks and when it ultimately breaks down and needs to be replaced after months if not years of a breaking down time and time again you will then be excluded from the plan and it will end up paying 10% of the cost of the new HVAC system and you'll pay the other 90%. Mark my words. Do not get this plan. Save your sanity

Most of the time, my claims were taken care of in a timely manner. The only problem I have is I pay $100 for each call for someone to come out, and they go back and say what they found wrong. And some of those companies AHS send just don't do it. I told them of one company, “Don't send them back around here again.” They honored it.
Recently, the AC wouldn't cool up fast. So, I had somebody come through four times to look at it. They checked it and said there was a leak somewhere. They thought it fixed the leak. And it showed up after they put the coolant in there last 30 days, and it leaked right back down. So, they came back and tried to fix it again. He put some leak stopper into the leak stop. He said, “Let's try this. This normally works. So, let's try to see if this will correct it.” So, that went on three times. And I just got sick of it. So, I called back again. And the guy American Home Shield sent said a compressor looked bad. But in order to replace the compressor, which was still under warranty, they wanted to charge me $290 to put a compressor in there and drain it up. But I already set it up for coolant again. I said, “$290? This is crazy.”
I called another person I knew here to come out. I said, “Look, come here and find out what's going on with this unit. See if you can do something, change the compressor.” He came around, changed the compressor out, and put some coolant back in there. And the compressor didn't do it. The compressor works fine. It would cool the room off, but then it leaked out again. Finally, up and running right now. It runs a couple of weeks before I see if it’s holding or not.

I've had American Home Shield here in my house in Florida for two years. I also had them when I lived in California. They're great with little minor things like changing the locks and toilet leaks. But in both places, I had an issue. I had an issue with one of the pipes for my underground sprinkler when I was in California, and they said, "Call your homeowners warranty. We don't cover it.” They sent a guy out to look at my air conditioner because I made the comment that it was making a noise. The guy said, “Oh, you have an HAVC system. They all make noises.” So I googled it, and in fact, they do. What got me was the guy went in and opened up the inside where the air handler is. He looked and said, “Oh, that's all mold and mildew.” But it wasn't. I called a friend of mine in California and he said it was just dirt and hair. He told me I could use a paintbrush and it would wipe off. If it was mold, it won't come off.
I went in there with a soft paintbrush and wiped all this crap off and it was falling off. I took a vacuum and sucked it all out. Then I sprayed the coil cleaner for the evaporative coil. So now, it barely makes any noise at all. I got a quote from the people that American Home Shield sent out for $1,200 to do what I did. But it only cost me $16 to buy those two cans of coil cleaner.
When I talked to the people at American Home Shield, I was told that they have trained professionals. I let the rep talk but when he was done, I told him, "You know what? The guy who did mine was 25 years old. And he flat out told me he's just learning the ropes because he wants to go out on business on his own. So don't tell me that it was an experienced person when the tech himself told me he’s not." When I pointed that out to American Home Shield, they came back and said, “Well, you have a right to a second opinion.” But I said, “Oh, well, it would have been nice to know that before I fixed it myself.”
I had a guy come out for a plumbing issue and he said, "Oh, they're gonna have to have someone come out with the camera." But nobody came out with the camera. Another guy came out for my overflowing washing machine. He said, “You know what? You're probably pumping into a dry well and it's full because the ground’s wet.” So it was a lot of probably, but nothing for sure. So I called Dunstan Plumbing and they came out and routed my clothes washing machine straight to the sewer line. So whenever I really need American Home Shield, I get nothing out of them. I've called them and told them that when my contract’s up, I would cancel it. I wouldn't recommend them and I'm not using them anymore.

We had a plumber claim that was great. I recently told American Home Shield my dishwasher, the cup you put the soap in wouldn't stay closed so the soap was all going out during the rinse cycle. All Brands has been here before on other claims and always did a great job. The tech came and looked at everything, and ordered the dishwasher cup, which is in and working great. Everything's perfect except that one knob for the oven. When I called the claim in three weeks ago, I told AHS that my stovetop had two knobs that were broken. It’s a glass stovetop separated from the oven. It's the only burner we have so it was important to me to get that fixed. One of the knobs, the big knob that turned the burner on, was broken. You could see why it didn't work. And you could take one off of a different burner and put it on there and turn it on, and put it back. But that’s a big bunch of trouble.
It was made a horrible noise. It sounded like it would blow up. It worked but it growled. You could not watch TV and be cooking in the oven. It was that loud. And one guy came out , and said he had ordered the part and he called AHS back and said “Done.” Never ordered the part. Wrote “Done.” Evidently, AHS paid him. They sent out another guy and he said, “I can't fix it.” So, All Brands came back, and he did it by himself. He pulled the oven out, replaced whatever it was. He did great. The same guy that came the first time with this knob business. He did something two other companies didn't do. But he forgot to order it and just made up an excuse.
I tried ordering the dishwasher cup online. It was one size fits all, but they didn't fit. So, when the dishwasher broke, too, and I knew I could get two appliances, I just said, “There's knobs on the stove that don't work, and there's this dishwasher cup that didn't work.” All Brands came out and the tech showed me how I could move it from one to the other. He got the right part for the dishwasher. And he got the little knob that turns the big into little, but he didn't get the big knob. And he said it was because wear and tear isn't covered.
While he was still here, I called AHS and they said, "No. Wear and tear is covered.” They read me the contract. And I said, “I really need that knob. Now, you don't need to pay All Brands to come back. Just mail it to me. I can put the knob on. I've moved it from one to the other on occasion. I do know how to do it. Just mail me the knob.” But they said they had to get something in writing from All Brands. And I assume he did it. When I ordered the four of them that were supposed to fit, it may be under $15. So, it's not a big, expensive item. It's just ridiculous. Either he didn't order it because he thought it wasn't covered, or he thought I could move it back and forth. “Wear and tear isn’t covered.” Well, if wear and tear isn’t covered, they wouldn’t have sent the little knob. It was wear and tear, too. That's stupid. When you got a plan, you want everything working right.
AHS should call the person the person and say, “Is your job complete to your satisfaction?” Because on the first one, that first guy got paid for just coming out and never coming back. On this one, All Brands did such a good job the first time, but they shouldn't get paid to let knobs replaced.

The gentleman I signed up with was very nice and forthcoming. I pay a $100 deductible each time because it takes care of everything in the house. I had a Kenmore stackable attached washer and dryer which I bought in the Fall of 1994. It was only repaired one time but you can't get the parts for it anymore. I called American Home Shield and I left a message. Teresa, the rep, called me back and she was very nice and took care of it all. She had this supervisor, Joe, call me, and then I used my phone so he could take a picture of the information off of the washing machine part, because it started sounding like it was a jet plane going off. He was very nice. They sent out a repairman named Alex who was the same repairman who fixed my refrigerator months ago. I was happy to see that because he was very knowledgeable and nice. They called me back and they said that it would be a few days to order parts, et cetera.
The repairman told me that it was quite old but he would turn it in. Then, I was notified that the parts were no longer available that was needed for the washing machine part. I was turned over to the warranty department and I spoke with them. That young man said he was sending me an email for me to pick out what they had available. And also in the email, I could have chosen to take a check and go over to Lowe's and shop for what I wanted. But they had one that looked a lot like my old one. It's on order and it should be in any time.

American Home Shield is pretty good. My only thing is that I've had a problem with my AC unit this year and I've had technicians out three different times. It was a different company each time. The first company was kind of questionable. But the other two were good companies. The service techs were good. But as a consumer, I'd rather deal with one company, like I'm dealing with American Home Shield. Other than that, it was fine.
When I was having an issue with my AC unit a few months back, American Home Shield sent out a company and the guy they sent out probably graduated from air conditioning/heating school a couple of months before he serviced my unit or tried to figure out the problem. He was kind of lost on what the problem was. He eventually thought he tracked it down. But he had to call out a second technician to resolve the issue. He told me that my thermostat was at fault because it was wired wrong. But I've had the same thermostat for five years. All of a sudden, it was wired wrong and not working. That was a little over the top for me. But between him and the other guy that came out, they got the unit running. They put a new thermostat in and it worked fine for about a month and a half.
I had to call back for the AC because it wasn't working properly. The second guy from a different company came out. He was a very nice guy and very experienced. He checked and poked around the inside and the blower and the thermostat. He put a second thermostat on and said the first one was not good. He also found a capacitor on the AC unit that was not working properly so he replaced it. I asked him if the Freon was full. He said, “You're a little short, but no need to worry about it.” The unit was working again. Then a few weeks later, I noticed it was not working efficiently. The unit is running for a long time.
In between after the first guy and the third guy from Doctor Cool came out, my electric bill shot up. The unit was running more and more and more. Last month, I got a $214 electric bill, which was high for me. I have never had a $200 electric bill since I moved here. When the third guy came out, he poked around for a while. I told him that the thermostat and the capacitor had been replaced and that the other guy said that the Freon was of very acceptable level. Then he came up and told me that my Freon level was almost down to zero. He said the unit holds 8.5 pounds of Freon and I was down 8 pounds. So I was trying to figure out how I went down 8 pounds in a few weeks.
He checked for leaks but he did not find any. This unit is 17 years old so it's getting towards the end of its useful life. He came back and seemed to detect that one of the little plastic caps that cover the opening was not seated right. He assumed that that was what caused the leak. That's a 25-cent cap but now, I've got a bill here for $960 for Freon. He replaced them with some brass caps. Everything was working fine. American Home Shield's service was very good but I'm not happy laying out 960 bucks because a previous technician may have damaged a cap or didn't see a damaged cap.

The doors on the freezer had shifted and we have slow water coming from the ice maker. The guy who came out was very nice and he was able to fix the issue with the doors. But upon fixing it, he said that the other issue could not be fixed and that we need a plumber because the hook-up from the sink to the refrigerator was the problem and we weren't getting a good flow of water. We’re seniors with a senior income, so we asked the fella if it was going to cost us another $75 to have the plumber come. He said no because it was still part of the initial house call to fix the refrigerator. He also said he was going to put that down in his notes. He told us to give it a couple of days and AHS would us or we would call them.
When we didn’t hear from AHS, we called and it turned out that, it has to cost us another $75 to have the plumber come. So, that was a big disappointment. We can't keep shelling out $75 like a visit is ala carte. In the survey that they sent me, I put down that the problem was not resolved and I sent it to them. It's a shame that AHS is just a moneymaking thing. Then the prices keep going up and you see on the TV all these other insurance companies that are cheaper than American Home Shield.

I had two problems but I don't know where to put them in the claim. A technician came and fixed one of the problems. That went okay. For the second one, the technician asked me to place another order through AHS so they can actually fix it. I did that and AHS was very quick about sending the request and getting the company to do things. That was okay too.
The request was sent out to Watertight and they emailed me. They were gonna send a technician. My deal is with the Watertight company. When they sent me the email, I replied and explained exactly what the problem was and that the second order was recommended for me to put in again by one of the technicians. I put his name in there. I put the order on Friday and someone came on Tuesday. The service company had four days for the weekend holiday, which was understandable. They had a long time to place the same guy. Instead, they sent out another technician who came in and he didn't tell anyone when he was coming. AHS sent an email detailing the progress of the technician but I didn't follow that.
The technician said there was nothing. It was a little dirt and that's what he reported and submitted the invoice with such information. I first called AHS and they put me on hold. They called the service company and they said there was no mechanical failure. We were waiting on them to send a diagnosis. I told AHS, "Why would I put another order on the second day?" It was something discussed when they were here the first time. I called the Watertight company and they said they will send another technician.
Nobody can detect the leak by just looking. The leak happens and it's slowly dripping. I refill the pool every day or every other day. Every day, it drops an inch or two. I tested it with a bucket of water to see the evaporation and the pool would decrease more than a bucket of water. There was clearly a leak somewhere. But the technician that came said there was no mechanical failure. I didn't see any work really done in the area. I didn't see evidence of screws being opened or tied.
I called the service company again and asked if they could get the technician to give me a call. Why would I put in another order to pay an extra $85 for no reason? He says he cannot clearly touch it without the work order. I sent the work order for him to be done and nothing happened. We're still waiting. The first guy who came in did really awesome work. But with this number two guy, I can't communicate with him when I put the second order in, so he can pick up the order and come and do the work.
All in all, American Home Shield is really good. They were very attentive and everything went very quickly. But the follow through with my thing didn't seem to be great. I talked to them and they had to call the company to verify then they said they would have to wait on a diagnosis. The issue was with their contractor. I'm not satisfied and American Home Shield could have asked them to resend the technician again. The problem is if anybody came just to open the pump and stay there and nothing is working, you will hear the water leaking.

I had an AC that broke down four times this summer and instead of replacing it, which AHS should have done because it's a 30-year-old-plus unit, they just kept coming out here and replacing the same thing over and over again. And in between, I had to go a week without AC. Also, it takes so long for the techs to come back out and I don't trust the repairs they've done. I know the unit is going to break again and it's always the compressor. This last time, the AC almost burned the house down. It fried the box and I have burn marks around the box. My husband said that when the policy is over, we're going to cancel and we're going to replace our own unit because AHS is never going to replace it. They're going to keep coming out here and put Band-Aids on it until our house burns down and it's just not fair. Right now, the AC has been broken for almost two weeks and somebody’s supposed to be coming out on Friday to fix it again.
At first, they said I got struck by lightning but I was telling them that if I did, half of the building would be burnt down or there’d be a bigger burn mark. It wouldn’t be just that little box that’s burnt. They told me to file it against my homeowners insurance and I did that but they came back and said it wasn’t lightning. It’s a malfunction of the thing. Other than that, I had to call AHS for my washer-dryer and they replaced it because it broke down. But that was a $300 fix. When it's a $10,000 fix, they refuse to do it and that's frustrating.

It leaks only sometimes but when it does, it leaks badly. They didn't replace it because it wasn't actively leaking when they came. When the company sent someone out, they troubleshooted their problem, which was fine. So, when they called me back about scheduling a time to come back and do the part, I paid $125 for the service call. And when the company called me back, they said American Home Shield would not cover everything that needed to be done and I had to pay $425 out of pocket. I'm very disappointed with that. There's always a catch to everything. I pay this monthly service fee for AHS, I might or may not use it that entire year. That money is already paid.
When it's all said and done, I would have paid more out of pocket than AHS would pay that company. They pay them for some $20 part or less than that and maybe for the labor. But I've already paid $125 for them to come out. Now I got to turn around and pay some more on top of that. So, I'm looking into finding another company.

The first year that we had American Home Shield, we didn't get a lot of use out of it, but in the past year, we've gotten a fair amount of use out of it. We have an older home that the previous owners didn’t take care of very well, and some stuff are hitting all at once due to their previous lack of upkeep. We had the ceiling fan that was taken care of. It just shorted out. There was also the ice maker and the fridge. Apparently, the fridge that we bought has a notoriously bad ice maker, which I didn’t know before we got it. We also had our bathroom exhaust fans looked at, but those were not replaced. Still, American Home Shield has paid for itself at this point. For an older home, it would definitely be a recommend. For a newer home, it’d be a nice kind of peace of mind if someone had it, but it would be a coin toss as to whether or not they would find it personally useful.

Because if I didn't have it, I would have been out $400 to $500.

My dishwasher, one day, was giving me the error code. I ended up having to unplug it. I made my claim to American Home Shield. They sent out the first repairman. He saw the brand, and he said, “This is a brand that needs more of a specialty type guy who works on these.” So, he left. They submitted that. They sent me a guy who knows how to work with this particular brand. He looked at it, told me what was wrong, and said that it would be way too expensive to fix. So, he recommended a replacement. American Home Shield approved it. I should be getting my new dishwasher tomorrow. I’m very happy.
AHS has definitely worked well for us. I liked the coverage they had. I liked that they told me they would replace my appliance for free with the same level of the appliance that I have. I liked that they said they would do that. They weren't gonna sit there and make me produce purchase dates on all my appliances. I’ve told many people to go ahead and get AHS. It’s the best thing in the world. I'm thankful we have it.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.

I was disappointed with American Home Shield. There are certain things that they don't take as emergency that we as customers take as one. An example was when there was a power surge in the master bedroom. I called in for someone to come out but no company was available to come on that Saturday. It was an emergency for me because I work from home and I have to make sure that I have things to work to do my job. I had to wait for Monday, so I had to go out and look for someone on my own to do it for me. That defeats the purpose of having a home warranty. Then I had to call back for the AC. I had to wait for them to come when they could have came. Here in Texas, it's very hot. They tell you they have 24, 48 hours but but it's emergency for the customers. Other than those, I'm okay with American Home Shield. They were able to take care of the issues that I had in the past.

The unit stopped working. I called up American Home Shield. They set me up with a company that ended up being hard to get through. And when I got through to someone, they told me it would be a couple of weeks before they could come out. So, I called AHS back. They told me it shouldn't have been that way. They set me up with another company and that company contacted me within a day. We scheduled an appointment. And they came out within a day after speaking to me, which was great.
They did a diagnostic and were able to figure out what was wrong with it. Unfortunately, they needed some parts to be ordered. So, they communicated with AHS. I signed off on the assessment that was made. They placed the order. They were at my door the very next day after the part was delivered. They estimated four to five hours to do the work. The guy was done in three and a half.

I've had some good experiences with American Home Shield. I've had some bad experiences, too. I had my ceiling fan repaired, which took six weeks to get fixed. The vendor that they originally assigned to it terminated his contract. Before then, it took them a long time to find me a contractor. Once they finally did, the day before they were supposed to repair my ceiling fan, that vendor called me and told me that his services had been terminated by American Home Shield. So, that took a little process in giving me another contractor. He finally came out and repaired it and everything was okay.
I wish they would be able to be more precise about contractors that they hire and the date of service. When you initially call the service order, they take your money out immediately but when they have to pay you, it takes six weeks to get your money back. Other than that, my service is alright. I'm not gonna get rid of them. I enjoy American Home Shield, but they have their ups and downs like any company.

We've never had a problem in the times that we've used American Home Shield. They're pretty prompt. When we called about the air conditioner, they got someone out the next day. The contractor was really good. I liked them. They were quick and very professional. They did it in a matter of time. They explained everything and answered questions. But when our washer wasn't working, the claim took almost two months. I got fed up with going back and forth. They told me, “Well go put a part in. Oh, I don't know if they even make the part anymore.” But no one really got back to me. I thought they were still waiting on parts and I had to do two trips to the laundromat.
I called American Home Shield and told them the whole thing of what happened and that I was tired of waiting. Right after that, they said, “Oh, well, they can't get the part.” They should have listened to the service guy because he said he kept telling them he couldn't find the part. But they wanted to try to find it. That was the only problem I had with American Home Shield. They need to act a little faster on what they're going to do. But other than that, the service has been good.

My condenser motor that runs the fan was burning out. It would run, then it would stop, and you would have to beat on it to get it going again. A technician came out and asked me a couple of quick questions. He did a check on the system. We had no problem with our furnace up in the attic. The air handler was fine, it was just the condenser. He did a couple quick tests. He told me the motor was going bad. He pulled it out and showed me where it was going bad. The shaft in the center where it’s supposed to be nice and tight moved an inch. The bearings were gone. He happened to have one on hand. It’s a generic one, but one that works well. He replaced the motor. There was a resistor for this motor that had to be put in. He put the resistor in. He rechecked all the pressures and ran it for a good 30 minutes. He made sure everything kicked on and off. On other situations, the problem was the people American Home Shield sent. But when it comes to American Home Shield, I've had no problems with them.

I had four claims with American Home Shield that were processed and everything was smooth. The only thing I didn't care for was when I went in to put a request on plumbing and I was only allowed four leaks and I had more than that. So, I had to pay the deductible for each set of repairs. But there was no trouble getting those done. I've had a claim in for about two weeks on a garage door repair and I called today to get an update on the status. AHS is having trouble locating a technician to take the work. So, they gave me an outside authorization where I find my own person. I gotta pay for it upfront, pay for it out of pocket, and they're gonna reimburse me. That seems like a little bit of a headache though. But one of the other great things that AHS offered was the rekey service. The tech rekeyed everything. I wouldn't have been able to replace those locks myself for $100.

Ace Heating & Cooling was fantastic. It was an emergency situation and American Home Shield assigned me someone on Friday. I kept calling but nobody returned my phone calls. I was so surprised as to how this whole thing went down. 5 years ago, I had an emergency and the person American Home Shield sent out was Ace. I looked through my records and I was able to find it. I called them directly and asked them if they had any time to come out and service the need that I had. They said, "Yes, but you need to get American Home Shield to change the vendor," to them.
When I called American Home Shield, they told me, "No, they are not on the list." I told them the guy told me he had already serviced four of their clients that day. I was still told, "I'm sorry, he's not on the list." That was very disappointing. I was insistent and called back again. The rep said, "Sure, I'll change it." I finally got somebody who listened to me and switched the work order to Ace that easily and I was able to get the service the same day. Ace came out and did the service. I had a follow-up call with them since then. They came back out. I was very happy with the service.
There's not enough follow-up between American Home Shield and the person they assign you to. They leave it up to you to do the follow-up. Sometimes the person that they assign you to don't return calls back right away and you're having to make multiple calls. I'm not sure if they look at what feedback you may give them for whoever it is they subcontract the work out to.

I came home and the AC wasn't cooling. I turned in a claim with AHS. My husband looked at it, and he felt like it was related to the condensation drain, had been the water had backed up 'cause it had been so humid that day. He restarted it, went ahead and turned it off and back on the outside and it started working again. But the techs checked it and when they pulled it out, they looked at how it was connected up 'cause my question was, "How come it's just the outside that was off?" They confirmed that that was how it was wired up. They checked the outside unit and made sure everything looked okay. And that was it. We've had AHS for a long time. I'm a person who doesn't like surprises. That's why I like AHS because I know that I'm spending $75 usually maximum unless it ends up being something major, like when the water heater completely went out.

When that was working perfectly, all of a sudden, the compressor went out. The techs replaced that too. They did a great job. But I did not like the company before that which came for a leak in the sink. The tech said, "Oh, no, I'm not gonna do that. I'll charge you $300." I bought the sink parts and everything because I wanted to get what I want. So I said, "Okay. You're done. Forget it. You're done." Also, AHS's automated system is just plain terrible. Nobody wants to talk to an automated system, they want a live person. I don't like their phone answering. But other than that, I've been very satisfied with AHS.

My freezer was damaged, and things could have gone faster, but that happened on a Friday. The service company came beginning of the week and they diagnosed what was happening. The technician tried to move things around and said, “If by tomorrow, it doesn't work, it's the condenser. I will call you exactly at 7:30 in the morning and I will check with you if it's working. If it's not, that means the condenser is damaged and we're going to have to order it.” The technician didn't have a solution immediately because a piece was damaged, and he wasn't sure. However, what was really good about him is he stuck to his word and I found that very professional. He called me at 7:30 exactly the following day so I didn't have to call him to find out.
The technician put something in the freezer to see if it was freezing or not. He asked me what happened, then I said, "The fridge is still not working." He ordered the part on Tuesday, and it came on Saturday. The service company gave me an appointment on Saturday, and the technician that was supposed to come to put the part had a family emergency, but he didn't leave me hanging. That was another thing that was really professional and great. He said, "Listen. I’m supposed to come to your house before 5:00. It's nearly 5:00. My daughter had an accident,” which I was so sorry for him. “But listen, do you mind if I come tomorrow, Sunday, to fix it?” I said, "If you don't mind, I don't mind."
Most of the time, my kids have soccer tournament because they do competitive sports. That was a Sunday I was available. I said, “I'm really sorry for your daughter. And then if you can come tomorrow, yes, definitely.” The technician came on a Sunday to fix my problem, which was really good. Compared to other times that I have used American Home Shield in the past, they're getting better. I was impressed by their customer service and the fact that their employees stick to their word and don't just leave me hanging with no explanation or reason.
I've been with American Home Shield for over six years. I had them on my previous house in Louisiana, and I continued with them in Houston once I moved here. If I had an issue of waiting, it was independent from them. Most of the suppliers they are using are good, and when I had an issue that had happened, I contact customer service and they give me some options to fix the issues. It's a bit of a nightmare to contact customer service though, so I need to be very patient.
The only thing I was not happy with was when I had a problem with my pool. They told me that it wasn't covered, so I had it repaired by somebody else. Otherwise, even their technician that takes care of my pool when I have a problem is really good. So far, I'm still with American Home Shield. I haven't shopped around because I'm quite satisfied. Once I figured out how to do the claims online, which is much more faster than calling them, it's straightforward. It's almost impossible to get somebody from American Home Shield on the phone, so I got used to doing it online.

American Home Shield has some key points that I enjoy having, and that’s the customer service. When I have a complaint or concern, I can call them about the third party that they sent. And they usually are able to send somebody else or get the person who did the service back over. On the downside, they think the price is competitive, but it's not. I had a problem with my AC unit, which I wound up replacing because they kept putting a bandage on it, and instead of telling me directly that, “Hey, you need a new system.” Freon is pricey. Unless you got a new unit, you wind up paying for R13, which is an older Freon which is not the best, hazardous-wise. You pay out your pocket, which is costly. But if you’re looking at 7 years of having the same problem, I could have had a new unit for that price.
The tech that came out for my microwave did an amazing job. Looked at the situation and fixed it within 20 minutes. He knew exactly what the problem was based on what I would tell him and what he saw. I have a broken dishwasher. I haven't called AHS due to the fact that I’d rather have Techpro come out and do it. Because those guys said that they do dishwashers too. And I don't feel that AHS or any company out there gives the homeowner the option to add another problem while existing techs are there.
It’s not a money concern, because you're gonna pay the money regardless. So it's more of, "While you’re out here, I have this problem. Can you get American Home Shield to look at it? And if there's something that you have to order, you can order it while you're here and come back.” Which makes it easier for customer service. Because they see the problem. They know exactly what the problem is. They can say, “I got that at my shop. I’m gonna see, can I get that at the shop. Can I come back on Friday to fix it?” But no company does that. And that’s something AHS can be the first one to implement in their service. But because you had to do the bells and whistles, have them on the phone, or create a ticket that may take 24 to 48 hours for the company to call you. And you're looking at five days for them to come. This way, it’s actually already in the ticket. The situation has always been, the homeowner is delighted because of their immediate service.

The Lindsay Company came out for plumbing. I had five issues that I listed. They looked into everything and addressed the questions that I had. They fixed everything except for the leak in the wall that was coming to the garage. That couldn't be identified. Our guess was we had a sink which was clogged in the upstairs master bathroom. Because there was water in the pipes, it might have come down to the floor. After that clog was fixed, I don't see any leaks, I just see a stain in there. It could just be a stain leftover from before. I like American Home Shield during times like these. When I got multiple things, I can get them addressed. The price could be reduced though. It's $700 a year, which if I don't use it, then it's gone. When I bought the house, I had another warranty service and they were a cheaper.

I've been with American Home Shield for about four years. Up to this point, the vendors that have been sent out have been marginal. The last vendor that came out recently for a plumbing issue was excellent. They got me in right away, fixed the toilet, and did everything I needed to do. There was excellent communication. But the vendors the prior years were subpar in the way that they communicated and the time frame in getting them to come out after I had made the claim.
Around Thanksgiving last year, my dishwasher broke. At the same time, my electrical plugin panel on the same outlet stopped working. I had someone come out to test if the dishwasher issue was the same that was dealing with the electrical panel before I went and replaced the entire washer then still didn't have it work. A guy came out and said that it wasn't that, it was two separate issues. He could fix the electrical outlet, which he did right on site. He said, "The dishwasher, however, is a different department than what I am, and they will contact you." I am still waiting for that phone call.
When I called American Home Shield later, they told me, "It's a different department. You should have received a phone call from us." It sounded like the vendor never told American Home Shield I needed a new department. I ended up going to Lowe's, getting my own washer and having them install it. That is fine but I needed some feedback so I knew which direction I needed to go, but I never got that. That was frustrating. But on the water heater claim, the gentleman who came was fine.

When there was an extra part that had to be ordered that didn’t come in right, they had it overnighted so we didn't have to wait any longer. They were comprehensive. It's a great company.
We did have to put a second claim in because there was a problem with a thermostat, which wasn't determined until the air conditioning unit was fixed. It probably was because the thermostat had been trying, but the condenser was out and it did something to the internal thermostat in the house. So, the tech replaced that as well really quickly. Overall, American Home Shield did a great job in getting us in touch with somebody right away.

I called back the next day and it took American Home Shield a long time to even get back in contact with me. They said, "We're not gonna replace it. You're gonna have to pay $170." For the replacement, there was something about the motherboard. I'm on a fixed income and I just gave the service fee. What's the point of me paying the insurance? I'm not gonna keep giving American Home Shield $100. By the time the people that they send out there charge even more money, I can't do it. I'm dissatisfied right now.
Are you still in need of assistance?

American Home Shield has been sending quality techs out. My air had went out. AHS changed the contact. They sent them right on out. Solved the problem like a pro. AHS has gotten in-depth into coverage on sewer lines. Coverage on if the city side don’t break, your side breaks, they have good coverage on that. Because I’ve had that one time, and I had to come out of pocket on that.

The latest claim I had with American Home Shield was for the garbage disposal. A tech came to repair it. He said it was beyond repair, and they replaced it. He was in and out within a reasonable amount of time. It’s working so far. The only thing is he replaced it with a smaller unit that was there initially. He said it was the same power, but we were traveling the next day, so I didn’t get a chance to confirm that. As far as the claim submission, in this case, it was pretty simple. Mine was a common issue of the garbage disposal. So, it wasn’t one where I needed to describe something. It was there from the dropdown menu.
So far, AHS has been okay. There was a claim prior to this one for a water heater that went out. They paid to replace the water heater, but they did not pay for the work that goes into replacing it. So, that was a little eye-opener there but in terms of the garbage disposal, I just paid my 100 deductible and that was it. I would recommend AHS.

My AC has been broken since August 24th. It took two and a half weeks for the part to get in. The contractor is supposed to be coming out tomorrow or Wednesday. Today is the 12th and I've been without an AC for almost three weeks now. I wish they could speed up the process. As big a company American Home Shield is, they should be able to get the parts or get everything done within a couple of days versus waiting almost three weeks for the air conditioner. I'm in Texas, and it's 98 degrees every day down here. On top of that, I'm having to pay for Freon to go into the new AC, which I shouldn't do because you have to put Freon into the new AC in order for it to run. So I'm having to pay the $75 fee for the contractor to come out and $260 for the Freon to go in the repaired AC.

You can hardly live without a home warranty in this day and time. Because when your manufacturing warranty wears out, then you don’t have anywhere to go, so you deepen your pockets. Unless, you can get something like Home Shield. We had a lot of good references. People called and told me the thing to do was to get it. I will recommend it to anybody as well. Don't wait until your appliance tears up then you gotta find somebody to try fix it and pay a lot of money. Our washing machine wasn’t working at all, and the techs replaced it. They were great. They brought the new unit in, set it up, and didn't have any problem with it at all.

I had a leak in my toilet and it was running. When I initially submitted the claim, I didn't get responded to right away. I had to wait three days. But no one called me. So, I called the second time, and then they finally called me back. That claims representative was the one who processed it and made it happen. The telephone people weren't that great. But the actual plumber was really good.
I had a plumber come out before and work on the toilet. They replaced the wax and it still was running, but just slightly, and then it kept running. I noticed it was running constantly. So, I called again. The guy showed me the whole process and how to show it was not the leak in the tank, it was the leak in the jet. We troubleshot it out when I was there and there was a leak in the jet and the only way to fix that was to replace the toilet as far as I understood. But the toilet is doing great since the service. There's no running and it improved my water bill.

Techs from Norrods came to fix my washer. Each time they came, they didn't do anything. They just looked at it and left. The first two times they came, they said there was nothing wrong with the washer. But it was doing two things. In the spin dry, it would wobble out of control and it would stop. We would rearrange the towels and the clothes. But no matter how many times we arranged the clothes, it would keep on doing it. The second thing was that it would not completely drain. Each time the techs came and didn't fix the washer, I would call American Home Shield the next day and tell them. This was the worst experience I've ever had with anyone.
American Home Shield had done excellent work up to that point. Every time they would send someone out, that technician or handyman would do whatever it is I asked them to do. It was excellent work. Once they contracted with this Norrods, they were the problem. It seemed that the customer service representatives didn't know how to handle that. By the fourth time, I asked them to get me a supervisor. They gave me one and they changed the service company. I'm waiting to see what happens now.

I like American Home Shield a lot, and it's been worth the money. I've had several things repaired, and they're functional now. There's been a bit of a lag with one repair though. They said 48 hours, and it's been nine days, not including the weekend. There was a pinhole leak in a pipe. The plumber didn't know where exactly it was coming from, so he took quite a large piece of a wall off downstairs in the dining room and another chunk in the bedroom, and right now, I’m waiting. There seems to be a little confusion. American Home Shield said they've processed everything, but the reconstruction guy hadn't gotten anything just yet. I've had to call him, and I left a voicemail, then he returned my call.
There was also one guy who came to repair the air conditioner, and he had to come in when I wasn't at home. He was efficient and corrected the problem, but I found lights on in rooms that had nothing to do with the air conditioning. I don't have cameras throughout the house, but it looks like he took a tour of the house in rooms that were closed and empty.

Cote's Mechanical came for the air conditioner. I had called before and had another company come out. The repairman checked everything with my air conditioner and said there was nothing wrong with it, that it was just so hot and it couldn't keep up. I kept asking neighbors, and one of them said, “If you set it to 78, it should read 78. It should not keep going up.” That was when I called back and got Cote’s to come out. I told American Home Shield, “That company works. They do a good job. Every time they've come out here, I've had no problems with them.” The guy found the problem right away. He just added freon to it. Cote’s fixed everything but it cost me a few hundred dollars in electricity bills because the first company did not fix the problem.
I don't like that American Home Shield has gone up in price. I've also had trouble with them. It took me months to get a new refrigerator from them. I had a refrigerator that was over 15 years old. They kept trying to fix it. After the fifth time, they finally said, “We can’t get that part. We need to give you a new refrigerator.” Getting things done with American Home Shield could take months. I also had trouble with the air conditioner because I had to first get the fuse fixed. They wouldn't put in an order to get the air conditioner fixed until I got that done. Every time, I've always had to call back. I was on wait an entire day but never got through. I just left the phone on, and it kept giving me the message over and over.

So, I'm waiting to get some plumbing work done. We're at a stop point until some information is gathered and disseminated so they can get back with me. Overall, these guys were professional. These guys kept me in the loop. They did their best to explain.
I have a ceiling fan that is pitchy. Sometimes it's flickers, sometimes it cuts itself off. They addressed that, but it's reverted back to the old issue. And then, I have another area where if I plug something up that does not need a lot of wattage, the things cuts on. But if I need something that needs more wattage, it does not work. It's not working, they call them receptacles maybe. When he went in, the thing just fell apart in his hand. So, I asked, I said if that was a fire issue. He said that it is. They were saying that I probably need all of that replaced. Right now, American Home Shield is good money spent but when I called about a plumbing issue about leaky pipes, I was told that they will call me back, and they never did.

In the back of the refrigerator, there was a frozen spot. So, it was leaking out Freon. I put the claim in to American Home Shield and it was approved but then, about a week, I called them up and said, ”Where are we at?” Then, I called their claims department. It took a little while, but what I got back was a lot more beneficial than what I put in. American Home Shield needed to replace the whole refrigerator. So, they gave me the cash up front to buy a new refrigerator. They gave me more money than my original refrigerator was worth. So, I got a refrigerator and a dishwasher. They’ve treated me very well. American Home Shield sent four technicians from different companies to see if they could fix my LG refrigerator, to no avail. They said, “We’re doing our best. We tried to change whatever parts, and it’s still not working. It’s time to replace it.” So, they recommended a replacement. AHS was nice to consider a replacement. But the sad thing about it was they had a third-party contract with somebody who issues a replacement. They requested replacement on June 24. I got my replacement on September 1st, but a different brand. So they had a third party who took care of that.
RAS Logistics is the name of the third party that AHS sent via the recommendation of the technicians that they couldn't fix it anymore. I got my replacement, a brand new GE, which is compatible for the price with my LG. When they first got it, it was working. It was blwoing nice air. The freezer is nice. That was why I was so excited, so I purchased my food. But in less than 6 hours, the entire refrigerator that they sent me broke and was hot inside. It was defective.
So September came, I called AHS. They told me, “We’ll try our best to get in touch with your company who sent it.” And they said they would do their best to get a replacement for me. I said, “I don’t want any more technicians. I'm tired of technicians. They gave me a brand new one. In less than six hours, I need a new replacement.” You get a toll-free number, you get AHS. If there's an issue, they send you to the appliance purchasing. They have different departments that cover after things. If the technicians cannot take care of it, they send it to the appliance purchasing. The appliance purchasing has approved it, you get a new refrigerator, and they’ll send you a text. “By the way, Edwin, this is your new order. We’re expecting your delivery such and such.”
The only thing I’m asking is for them to respond in a timely manner. Sometimes they would say they would call me, but they didn’t. That’s the only negative. But I got a high respect for AHS. They are excellent, you guys are professional and courteous. They would do their best to handle the manner as soon as possible. Unfortunately with my situation, and especially with my health, that was the issue.
Yesterday, I got a call from the third-party contact. They’re waiting to get in touch from GE, and they got in touch with AHS that they will replace it again. So I’ll get my new replacement again on the 13th. So, from June 24 to September 13, I didn’t have any refrigerator. But I renewed my contract because I was impressed of American Home Shield’s coverages. Even though the appliances were brand new, you never know when they would expire on their time. I pay a $125 copay before AHS would send any services rendered to my concern. But after that, the parts and labor, everything is covered. That saves money for me, especially as a retired military.

The tech came in and looked at it and pretty much said the same thing the guy said at Home Shield. He said, "Yeah, it's defective." He pretty much did the same thing that Home Shield did. The service of AHS is okay. However, the coverage isn't enough. So far, I've had two vendors come out, and I've had to pay additional money, which makes me now want to wonder if I need to add up how much I'm paying on an annual basis along with the deductible and the additional cost to see if it makes sense to continue with American Home Shield.
Recently, I had a service done on one of the properties that's covered by American Home Shield. It was the air conditioning unit. They needed to add coolant. The policy that I have with American Home Shield only covers $10 per ton. The actual coolant is $100 per ton. It caused me to have to pay the additional $200 to get that unit serviced.
When my refrigerator was done last year, I didn't have the best experience. The first individual that they sent out had no idea what he was doing. He was on the phone with someone who was coaching him in terms of what it was he needed to look at. He ended up leaving because he didn't have a clue what he was doing. They had to send an additional repair person out a week later. I only had to pay the one deductible because I called in and said, “You sent someone out who did not have the experience to repair the issue. So, why should I pay twice?” They did not charge me the second time. The gentleman who came out the second time was also very efficient and he was able to address the issue.

When the motor was not circulating the water into the pool, the contractor had to replace the motor. They also had to seal some of the pipes because it was bringing in air. They were fantastic. They knew what they were doing. It took a while for them because the technician that did the repair had a sunstroke, so it was a few more days than what it was. But they kept me informed on everything.
The other thing that happened was we were having trouble with leakage on our heating and air conditioning unit. All Tech was the people that American Home Shield sent out. They are a great company. They told me, “You're gonna have to replace your unit.” I made a comment to the technician that American Shield would replace it. He looked at me and said, “No. They will not replace it. They will give you a certain amount of money and you have to pay the rest of it.”
On their advertisement on TV, American Home Shield says that they will replace your unit if they can't fix it. They can fix and fix but it's still going to have problems. They will reject it unless you cannot replace the whole thing at one time or until the parts are no longer available. That happened to an oven that was in their guarantee. They replaced the oven and we didn’t have to pay for anything. But it took about four months before they even got that done. The repair person said they didn’t have it. Then they gave me an option of three ovens. The oven that we had at the time was a conventional oven with remote with dual controls but they wouldn't give us another one like that.
I have been with American Home Shield for a long time. They do good work but it upsets me whenever I call and get an answering machine that asks all these questions. You say, “I would like to talk to a representative,” but it says “I can't help you with that.” Then they go through this rigmarole again and when you get someone, 9 times out of 10, you can't understand them. Besides those, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield.

I had American Home Shield's ShieldPlus plan for almost 4 years and would never consider a home warranty again after my experience with American Home Shield. During my 4 years with American Home Shield, I tried to have two items repaired, an appliance and a toilet in my primary bedroom. On my first service request, first, a service technician came to my home outside of the stated service window (after already cancelling once) despite me leaving a voicemail that I was unavailable during that period as it was the middle of a work day and yet American Home Shield still charged me for the "missed" service appointment.
While I was eventually refunded for the "missed" service appointment, when a technician did actually come during another appointment, my experience was not much better. After the technician spent about 2 minutes looking at the appliance, American Home Shield denied coverage because of a supposed manufacturer's defect since he had seen a similar problem on a couple of other appliances by the same manufacturer (meaning that because the appliance was outside of the manufacturer's warranty, American Home Shield essentially covered nothing on the item despite me paying for coverage). American Home Shield of course did not communicate the denial of coverage, so I did not even have an opportunity to appeal and have someone else look at the appliance to confirm they agreed with the technician's assessment.
Somehow, my next service request was an even worse experience and amounted to the worst customer service experience I've ever had with any company. After submitting a service request for the toilet in my primary bedroom, American Home Shield first scheduled a plumber that could not perform the service as they do not service condo buildings. After contacting them to schedule another plumber, a plumber did actually come and identified a faulty fill valve and angle stop on the toilet. Following the diagnosis, I spent several weeks trying to schedule a follow-up service appointment to actually fix the issue and to request an insurance certificate (a requirement of my HOA for work done in the building).
The plumber refused to provide the insurance certificate to me and would not schedule the follow-up service appointment. After contacting American Home Shield several times about the issue with the plumber, I was assured that American Home Shield would follow up with the plumber and get the necessary insurance certificate and schedule an appointment. This of course never happened and it was left to me follow-up with American Home Shield several more times. After months of not being able to use the toilet in my primary bedroom at this point and the plumber eventually cancelling the service request, I requested American Home Shield assign a new plumber. This apparently was much easier in theory for American Home Shield than in practice.
American Home Shield repeatedly re-assigned me the same plumbing company that cannot perform the service on a condo building and the plumber that refused to schedule a service appointment to actually fix my toilet or provide an insurance certificate. This process of re-assigning these same two companies happened for about a month (with each being re-assigned multiple times and in one case the same plumber being assigned twice in a row) despite American Home Shield's repeated confirmations that neither of these plumbers would be assigned to my request and that the American Home Shield agent would note on the request in all caps that neither of these plumbers should be assigned for the work. Eventually, after approximately 10 calls to American Home Shield on this same issue, I was able to get American Home Shield to assign a new plumber...who of course proceeded to cancel the request the next day.
After American Home Shield's repeated promises that it would resolve the issue over the course of several months, all I was left was a non-working toilet, several service fees--one of which I'm still trying to get refunded four months after American Home Shield indicated it would process the refund and despite several claims over that period that it was being processed, and 10+ hours of wasted time with American Home Shield on the phone. Ultimately, I gave up on American Home Shield and hired my own plumber out of pocket (since American Home Shield would never agree to reimburse me for my own plumber despite my American Home Shield policy providing that they would do so if they are unable to provide a service contractor), which may have been for the best as all of American Home Shield's plumbers had awful reviews.
All in all, I cannot recommend strongly enough against American Home Shield and their poor service. After paying thousands of dollars in premiums and service fees over 4 years, all I ended up with was a lot of wasted time and covered items that were never fixed. A home warranty is great in theory, but unfortunately American Home Shield is not the company to buy from as they make every effort to avoid paying anything, do not adequately vet their contractors (every company I was assigned had beyond terrible reviews that were backed up by my experience with them) and do not follow their words with action.

My mother recently put in a service request due to a leaky faucet. The technician they sent was extremely rude, unprofessional, tried to scam us into purchase a faucet through his company and pay out of pocket when we didn't need to because it was covered by our "warranty" if that's what you want to call this trash company. When we said no, that would rather have AHS replace the faucet we were told it would be ordered and arrive in a week or so. 2 weeks went by and NOTHING.
When I called AHS I was told the order was never placed and that the report stated it was not the faucet but the water pressure (which he assured in person was not the issue but the faucet itself). Therefore they would not be replacing the faucet. So not only am I paying a yearly amount plus a fee every time you send someone out but the people you are sending out are scammers and completely incompetent. My mother will NOT be renewing her warranty next year. I am also a local realtor. I will NEVER recommend my clients use you as their home warranty company. You should really look into who you are doing business with and what technicians you are sending into peoples homes! You are scamming people out of their hard earned money.

We purchased an AHS warranty when we bought our home primarily to have “peace of mind” that we would not face a major home repair in the first two years. I chose AHS because friends of ours had been using them for years and were satisfied with their service. About 8 months into our ownership, the HVAC system failed. I called a local contractor to get an independent assessment. He said there were leaks in the air handler coil as well as in the outside unit. Because of the age of the unit, inability to obtain parts and the outdated type of Freon, the only solution was to replace the system.
AHS sent out their own contractor (from another state), who told me that AHS would only pay the replace the air handler even though a matching unit is no longer available. Even if a replacement could be found, this did nothing to repair the Freon leak in the outside unit. So bottom line, the contractor said our only option was to accept a small repair allowance that could be applied to replacing the whole system. Since it was cold weather, we had no choice but to accept this less than satisfactory result. Our friends, that I mentioned earlier, had the exact same situation at their home and received a complete replacement system! I tried to find a phone number to call them to discuss the claim. And no surprise, I was unable to find a number for them anywhere in my paperwork or online.
Months later, as luck would have it, our water heater failed and flooded our garage. Once again I filed a claim online. Their contractor came from a city an hour or more away from me, but they did come promptly. They said the water heater had to be replaced but that AHS would not allow them to purchase a comparable WH locally. They had to wait for AHS to ship one to them. TWO WEEKS later I had a new water heater installed. When I went outside to check out their work, the WH had TWO large dents in the case!
They told me it would take another two weeks to have a replacement unit shipped to them and the work scheduled. I kid you not. Since it was already mostly installed and we had been without hot water for two weeks (and they assured me the dents were cosmetic only), we had no choice but to accept the work. One last comment, obviously I did not renew the warranty when it expired. However, that didn’t stop them from harassing us for months with often multiple daily emails trying to get us to renew. I marked them as spam, but they kept coming. Run, don’t walk, away from this company!

My furnace has been broken since April 2022. AHS has sent 2 contractors to my house and neither one has done anything to fix/replace my furnace. I have called AHS at least 20 times to check on the status of my account. Supposed calls to the furnace vendor, but still no furnace. I have paid the service fee twice and they only charged me half of the second fee like that makes it okay? I have escalated the call many times - with no follow up. I have requested to speak to Contract Relations Department at least 5 times - no call. Asked for a manger at least 5 times -and talked with one weeks ago, and no action or follow up. Called again on 8/27 and today and still the same thing...NOTHING. When I say this is a SCAM - it is a SCAM. Now, I am afraid of them putting in a furnace - if they can't get this right, which should I have any confidence in a safe install of a furnace! STAY AWAY FROM AHS!!!

Water heater went out and it took almost 2 weeks to get it replaced. In July my power went out on 1/3 of my home including all kitchen appliances & plugs. I was told to find my own electrician & they charged me $100 for doing it.

Took my money immediately, never found a contractor. Told me to find my own contractor after a week. Got one, got authorization for repair. Paid out of pocket. Submitted the receipt and authorization, no response three weeks later despite calls. Now house is at 81 degrees. Submitted a claim, again no contractor. I'm out money for the claim, money for the repair and still have no a.c.

My tenant had an issue with the AC not working. I was able to open a ticket from out of the country and get an appointment quickly. It was excellent service. It was all in one visit. The feedback I got from my tenant was awesome. I could not ask for anything better than what I got. When there was a microwave issue, American Home Shield was able to help us with providing a link to the video. My other tenant was able to take a look at the video and resolve the issue by herself. That saves some dollars as well. It's great that American Home Shield has some video links which we can refer to to resolve the issue. I'm considering adding a warranty to my primary home where I live.

My refrigerator went out. The tech was knowledgeable. He said, "Well, here's a problem. But I'll see if I can get the part." They don't make the part that I needed. So, they settled with me. I bought a bigger model and they gave me $1,261. They're delivering my new one. I've heard some horror stories about AHS but they've treated me well.

The contractor came out and they thought they fixed the problem with the air conditioner. But it wasn't resolved. So they came back out and found out the part was messed up. The tech fixed it and that was it. It got fixed on about the third try. But everything worked out great. They were a great company. American Home Shield is really good about forwarding the request to whatever company is supposedly coming out. They always tells us as the process goes on that you've been assigned to a company and they should call you, but they always leave the number of the provider. So you can always contact them. I like the way they do that. But they may want to remind the company that's coming out that they need to contact the consumer. Because there were a couple of times that the company called the day that they were gonna come to say that they were coming.

Our house wasn’t cooling. We filed a claim with American Home Shield and we had a fantastic experience with them. The techs from Cardinal Comfort came out and I would highly recommend them to anybody. They were completely professional and they answered every question that we had. They said that there was a leak in the pipe going into our house from the air conditioner and they replaced the whole unit outside.
