My pool pump was going out, and by the time the techs got here the next day, it already went out. So they just replaced the pool pump. They had to come out again three days later because I thought that there was something wrong with the install, but it was just the timing coincided that I needed the filter changed too. The tech opened it up and showed me the filter. Water wasn't flowing as quickly as it could with the dirty old filter. I had another one and we changed it, then the pump started working as expected after that. Also, I'm new to pools so I didn't know any of this stuff, so he showed me how to change the filter.
I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield. I had an issue with my garage door opener in a different home yesterday and it was bummer that American Home Shield didn't cover that. I read the fine print, and it said that they don't cover power surges. I don't even know how or when a power surge could have possibly happened and who's to say there really was a power surge? There was a brownish tint to a part of the electric board, so the best guess of the technician is that's what happened. Still overall, American Home Shield is definitely worth the price.

American Home Shield is a great company. My experience has been professional, simple, and easygoing. We called them when we noticed that there was a little water coming out. It was raining and from the basement, the water started coming out of the sump pump. They gave me the name of the company and the telephone number. I have the information in my email, too. The company called me and they made a schedule. When the contractor came, everything was pretty much easy. It didn't even take him less than two minutes, and he already figured out the issue. He took a picture. We were getting along and he said, “This is a small issue. It’s just the sump pump was never changed, so you just need a new one. That's it.” He took a couple of pictures and he said once he get the new one ordered, he was gonna call me. He didn't even stay no longer than two minutes.

I've had a home warranty for a really long time and I just recently switched over to American Home Shield a couple of months ago. My old warranty company was covering less and less of things. I went with American Home Shield because they have these disclaimers about how wonderful they are. They say that they cover older appliances. They cover appliances that haven't had maintenance. If you have an appliance and it wasn't installed properly and that’s why you're having a problem, they cover that. They pretty much cover everything.
We ended up having a heatwave in California and my air conditioner stopped working about a week ago. The fan’s going, and my air conditioner is on a slab foundation. I had it changed out with my past warranty company. AHS sent a guy out. He was a young kid. He kinda had an attitude from the moment he walked in. I have my own business, so I know how to deal with people. He went outside. He turned it on. The fan was working. He didn't pull the unit apart. He proceeded to tell me that my unit was very dirty and needed to be cleaned. Then he said, “And also, you're low on Freon.” AHS only covered $10 in Freon.
The part that really got me was when he said, “But the good news is, and this is gonna cost you about $1,000.” Then he said, “The good news is for another $1,700, I can put in a new unit. I can upgrade it.” I was like, “Are you trying to upsell me right now? I just told you that the $1,000 was a lot.” For sure, he was trying to upsell me for his company, and he was supposed to be representing my warranty company. So, I said, “No. Just do what you claim you need to do.” He said, “Well, I don't have time to do it today. I'm gonna have to come back. I'm gonna go write my report, and you'll hear from us.”
First, I called his company. The guy who runs the company never called me back. My warranty company called me back and they said, “No, it's not covered.” I said, “What do you mean it’s not covered?” They said earthquake straps were missing. Apparently, in the state of California, if you’re gonna put a new appliance in, you have to have earthquake straps if the unit’s on a roof. Mine’s on the ground. The purpose of it is that if the unit would shake the roof, it would do damage to the unit or the house. This company proceeded to tell me in his report, “The shaking of the unit.” There's no shake. I took a video with a glass of wine on it with the fan running. There was no shake at all.
So, I said, “Okay. If that's true, what about all these things that don't need earthquake straps? I can understand earthquake straps on a hot water heater. Of course, I knew that, ‘cause of the gas line. But this is electric." They didn't have an answer for me. So, then I said, “This air conditioner is not missing parts. This is an additional piece that is put on for code. It doesn't affect the unit or the operation of the unit in any way.” I had a friend of mine who came out, and he said, “That's baloney.”
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

I liked American Home Shield's service a lot. They did a great job of keeping me informed and scheduling the appointment. So, everything went nice and smoothly. There was plenty of communication, emails, and text messages. They ended up replacing the control panel for my dishwasher. The tech was very good, very professional, and explained to me everything that he was going to do and where he was going to order the part. He checked right on site about availability for the part because we know the chain of supply is like everybody's traveling to get parts. He acted very quickly on getting that on order.

We moved into the house on the 31st of July and there were problems with the toilet sounding like it was continuing to run. My husband tried to change the flapper in the tank but it was still problematic. He was trying to see if there were problems behind the toilet and maybe if there were problems with water coming down underneath. When he turned the water off, he could still hear something. When he went to try to move the toilet, he discovered it wasn't anchored to the floor. We called American Home Shield to have a plumber come take a look at it. They gave us the contractor Sullivan Handyman and their phone number.
Their plumber communicated with me before the visit and asked questions about what was happening. We explained it to him and he said, "It sounds like you may need to replace the toilet based on what you're describing to me." He got permission to do that and he asked me what model we wanted. If we sent him a picture of it, he could pick it up and bring it with him when he comes. He did that. He was in and out in less than an hour after taking care of everything.
That aside, I also had some difficulties with American Home Shield. My first experience was with the HVAC. The upstairs air conditioning wasn't working so a licensed HVAC person came out. I told him I have American Home Shield and he said I could pay him directly because when he tried to submit invoices to American Home Shield, it took him a while to get money. I can just submit the invoice to the home warranty afterward. I did that but when I called the home warranty, they said I should have called them first. Still, they had me go ahead and send the invoice and they gave me the email to forward the invoice to. I did that and I found out after the fact that the claim was going to be denied. From that perspective, I'm not satisfied with their service.

I had American Home Shield’s warranty once before so I said, "I’ll give them another shot at it. They'll be okay.” Worst move I ever made in my life. My air condition stopped working. AHS sent a technician out. First, he said it was an old capacitor. So it started working, but it went out again. So, I called him back out and told him it was not working. He came back out. I told him I have my air condition served twice a year by a qualified technician. When I told him that, it seemed like nobody cared about that issue. AHS didn't care about how things went. It was like a nightmare. After I told them about it, they said it was fixed. I said, "What do you mean by it was fixed? They didn't fix the problem.” It was a game that they were playing with me. That service was so piss poor, it was unreal. I will never use them again.
I’ll put it on Nextdoor to say to the people that American Home Shield warranty is nothing but a rip off. They get your money for two years. And when you have a problem, they send out the worst mechanics they got on there to repair your stuff. And they come in, you pay a service fee, then you gotta pay a $100 deductible. I've been them for five years. I still have to pay a deductible in order to get the service.
And when the people come out, all they want to do is just fix it and leave. My air condition had a noise to it so we couldn't sleep. And they wanted to charge me another service fee. I agreed to it. I said, “Okay. If they come out and don't find anything wrong, then I don't have a problem paying the service fee.” But they didn't even send anyone out to check to see that there was a problem. And I told them, I would pay the service fee if there was a problem and they didn't find anything wrong. They still didn't fix it.

For my refrigerator, AHS hired Day’s Appliance to fix it and it took the guy a month and a half because he had to keep coming back and re-diagnosing it. He kept misdiagnosing my refrigerator. But P&R Repairs who came out for my dryer was super nice and very professional. They did a really good job and I was really impressed. As soon as they decided we're gonna do a replacement because the part was no longer available, I did it and scheduled it for the following week. My dryer was delivered. The only hiccup was getting my old dryer. That company would have taken it for $40. I would have set it up at the time, but when I set it up, they didn't say anything about picking up the old dryer and taking it out of there.

The contractors know what they’re doing and don’t depend on me. I appreciate AHS and I don’t have to call anyone. As long as it’s not on the weekend, the turn-around time is great. In the last few weeks, I’ve had some things go on to where I've had to utilize my American Home Shield warranty, which has been great. I had my pool worked on. They had amazing customer service. I had my dishwasher worked on. They had to replace it. It came dented, so they take care of that. I had a plumber come out. He did a great job and went above and beyond.
I had an AC guy come out. My work request was air conditioning and swamp cooler not cooling. So, he came out yesterday. He found one wire on the condenser on one of the ACs wasn't working. Both ACs aren’t putting out cold air though. In the larger one, he found a wire that he had to clean up and put back on. Then he said, “Okay.” I said, “That didn’t fix it. It’s still 80-something degrees in the house.” He was like, “Okay. Well, it must be the Freon.” I said, “Okay.” He said, “I got to charge you $100 a pound.” I said, “I know American Shield is supposed to pay $10 on it.” He said, “Yeah, ‘cause they’re cheap, they’re a bad company and all that.” I was like, “Wow. Okay. Just bad-mouth people that are giving you the jobs here. Give me the Freon, I’ll take care of that. And that way, it will be good and it will work.”
I put the Freon in, but it didn’t work. It's still 80 degrees in the house on both AC units. He didn’t look at the swamp cord yet. He hasn’t even touched those yet. So, I came back out, and he was like, “It must be your ductwork up in the attic. Maybe there’s a leak or something. I don’t go in the attic. It’s too hot.” I said, “Well, I put in the work request of AC not working. So, doesn’t the work request cover finding out what’s wrong with the AC altogether?” He said, “Yeah, it would. But I don’t go on the attics. I don’t get paid enough to go on the attics, it’s too hot, especially in the summertime.” I was like, “Okay. What’s going on here?” He said, “You need to call back American Home Shield and have them send out a different company.”
I said, “So you gonna have me call back and pay another $100 to have another company come out?” He said “Yeah, but tell them it’s ductwork.” I said, “No, it’s part of the AC. And the AC doesn’t work.” He said, “Yeah, but you’re gonna have to do a whole new work order.” I said, “Just a minute. Let me go inside and call American Home Shield to find out what’s going on.” While I’m on the phone with AHS, he took off and left. He hasn’t even looked at the swamp cooler units, and I have two of those. He fixed a couple of things, but it still wasn’t working. So I was talking to AHS and the rep said, “Oh, well, he just put the work order in. And he says he fixed it and the customer refused to pay for the Freon.” I was like, “Whoa. What the hell is going on here?” Overall, everything’s been great up until yesterday.

Holders Incorporated did some locks for us. They showed up on time and did everything that we asked them to do. But I have not been happy with American Home Shield at all. I would not refer them as a company to anyone. They're awful. I was told whenever I created the recent service ticket that it was not a vendor that they could use in the area, that I could call someone and I could get reimbursed if I wanted to do that or they could try to reach out again and find someone. But they had no luck finding anyone. I told them, "I would like you guys to reach out because after all, this is what I pay you to do.” They reached out and within 24 hours, not only was someone assigned, but also the people contacted me immediately. They got my locks changed the same day.
I am still waiting on service for them to get back with me on a refrigerator repair from September of 2020. I went to the point where I stopped paying American Home Shield because they would not do what they're supposed to do. But I've never had an issue with any of the vendors that they send out. They've always been professional. They've always taken care of the service issues.

What I liked about American Home Shield was it was a number to call in case there was anything wrong with our home. And we had just purchased a home, so we wanted to make sure we were covered. Generally, AHS has reached out in case there's a problem, and they’d just schedule another technician to come out. When I was trying to cancel the policy. It took a lot of phone calls to do so. I would like to get AHS in the future. But when I got so many calls, trying to cancel it, and it was just taking forever, it gave me a sour taste in my mouth. What I also didn't like about the service was sometimes, the technicians were in a rush to leave. They would charge us the full amount or just say everything was good, even when it wasn't.
Recently, there was a problem with the cooling system not cooling in the correct places. There was also a grinding sound. The first time the contractor came around, they thought maybe it was the filter. They said they don't carry a filter. So, we had to go out to Home Depot and put in the filter. But that did not solve the problem because it still made that grinding noise. So, I had them come out again to do the repair. And when they went into the attic this time, they found that there was a loose cable. Once they reattached it, the grinding noise stopped and everything is working fine.

I also had techs who serviced the air conditioner and they put sealant which is a temporary fix instead of trying to find the leak. I was not really happy with that. When we had a problem where the AC went out, the contractor came and put a compressor in. But about six weeks later, that same compressor went out. So they had to put in a new compressor. We just bought a house, and we wanted to have the house rekeyed. We logged into our account online and asked for it to be done. It was not easy though. The sellers of the house purchased the home warranty, because it was a part of our agreement when buying the house. They had it under their name, so we couldn't log in appropriately. We ended up having to call American Home Shield and having to do the claim over the phone. They put us on with someone with an extremely thick accent. We could understand two in every five words he said. It was a very poor interaction and it took a very long time. We were not satisfied with that.
American Home Shield ended up fixing our account and getting our names on it so that we could do it online, which we did. They then called us back and confirmed things with the person who spoke English. That worked, and then we've had no problems since then. The company that came out, Realty Rekey, was great. There is a drain and spin function on here that wouldn't work unless I tried it three or four times. The first time the tech came out, he said it was the shocks. He said it needed some new shocks. He ordered them. He came out and he replaced them. But it worked for one or two cycles and then it started doing it again.
He came back out. He was having problems trying to figure out what the problem was, except he said the shocks are all of them in there and one of them wasn't correct. So he was gonna have to order some more shocks plus do a little bit more research as to what could possibly be going on. I'm at this point waiting on a callback for him to come and finish it.

We had a problem with our refrigerator where the lights were no good. Home Shield had a guy come out and he had no idea what he was doing. He even told us that frankly and that he was going to have a specialist come and take care of the problem. It was back and forth with Home Shield. They kept telling me I had to go through this guy which I did and he never wound up fixing the refrigerator.
Home Shield then sent somebody else called DayBreak Appliance. They came out and they fixed half of the problem. But they couldn’t figure out how to fix the other light, which was on the side of the refrigerator and the bottom of the freezer. The tech had no idea what he was doing either so we had a third guy come out. I was willing to live with the lights issue at that point. But the third guy came out to repair whatever was frozen and broken. He gave me a card and it said A&D. This company was amazing. The guy knew his stuff like nobody before him. He ordered all the parts then they came back out a week or two later and completely repaired the refrigerator. It's perfect now.
On the whole, the refrigerator claim cost me three deductibles to have the problem repaired. That was annoying to me that I had to spend an extra $100 to have the refrigerator repaired. Home Shield wound up scratching the second time that I called for the deductible because I was really adamant about the problem not being repaired.
I've submitted several with Home Shield. The cost would have been exorbitantly more had I not had the program. There's peace of mind knowing that if something breaks, I have a deductible to pay and it's going to be repaired. At one point I was losing faith and I was getting ready to cancel my plan with Home Shield because I was getting turfed out to a Filipino call center. They were reading from a script and that was no good. Another thing was I wanted to talk to a manager at one point because I was seriously in a repetitive loop of not getting anywhere, especially with the first tech from DayBreak. Customer service said there was no manager. It took several days for them to have a manager or supervisor call me. When I missed the call, that was it. They didn’t try to call me again. I had to go through the process again and wait several days. They said it would be 24 to 48 hours but it was more. I still never spoke with anybody.

And you burned the AC, and I have to order a new board for the AC." He left. I had to stay in heat for 10 days because he didn't submit his diagnosis for six days. I kept calling and nobody got anything. So I called AHS back, and they said, "We're gonna send a second opinion." The second one from Seabreez was a good person. The tech who came was great. He was very nice and professional, but he couldn't pinpoint the problem with my AC. It doesn't cool as quickly as it did back in the day, but it's working and I'm not going to spend another $75 to have somebody come out and tell me the same thing. It hasn't gotten worse, so I just have to wait until it goes. If something major goes wrong, I'm hoping that American Home Shield comes through as hoped for after paying the premium all these years.

So far, I had to pay a lot of money out of my pocket even though I used American Home Shield. I used them a couple of times and the latest time was a couple of weeks ago. I had a water heater go out and still ended up paying $1,400 to the contractor. They didn’t pay the entire bill. They said they can't pay for the plumbing and stuff to go through it because it was damaged too but they didn't pay for that. The issue was I woke up one morning and my water heater was flooding. Water was running out of the garage. I forgot that I had Home Shield first and I called somebody I knew that was in the plumbing business. They came and turned the water off.
Then I remembered I had Home Shield, so I called them. They sent somebody out to check it out and look at what's going on. They said, “Okay. Yeah. We'll take care of that claim. We'll take care of the water heater.” A few days later, they told me that the plumbing and some other incidentals go along with it, and I would have to pay out of my pocket, which came up to $1,440. So, I had to pay for that and I wasn’t too happy with that. They did come out and they had ordered a tank. So, it took them another week to come out and fix it. Finally, the next Tuesday, they had all the parts and he came and fixed it.

American Home Shield has been wonderful. If I'm not satisfied with one company, I can call customer service and they will get someone else. I did a claim recently for one leaky valve and one that was clogged. Two young men came and they looked like they weren't old enough to work. They got the job done in less than an hour. All in all, American Home Shield is a good company. The price has gone up slightly but everything has.

We submitted the claim to have someone come and look at the air conditioner. When the technician came and looked at it, he checked the coolant stuff and saw that it was good. He checked our filter, and the filter had gotten clogged, so he replaced that. Then gave us some tips about closing some of the vents in the house to help the airflow go where we wanted it more. The tech was very nice and professional when he came. What he told us did make a difference. Now, the temperature is starting to cool down. So it's still running.

The clothes washer was no longer finishing cycles. When the techs came out, they said that there was a piece that needed to be replaced so that it could drain properly. There was a sock stuck in it somehow and it was full of water. They said to get the sock out, it would have caused water to go all over the place, so it was better to replace it. But they didn't have the part and it took about five days for the part to show up. My only thing was that somehow they had the wrong number for me at first, so they may have tried to contact me at first. But I didn't know about my first appointment. Then, I saw on American Home Shield that the part was ordered and the contractor didn't answer the phone much when I called to follow up. But overall, they provided great service and got the job done.

AHS has worked out well so far. When the dishwasher wasn't working, the repairman was able to fix that. He also helped with the garbage disposal. That was messed up. He cleared it up well. AHS could have more options though. It’s programmed by categories, and whatever category that I choose, it has to be within that same category. There could be an option for a different category when filing a claim.

I like American Home Shield. I have had experience with a different home warranty provider in the past, and American Home Shield's responsiveness is a little better. The one thing I don't like about them is their propensity to close open service requests when they shouldn't be closed. As soon as the service provider appears and sends a report in, they close it. The last service request I had for my refrigerator, I paid my deductible and the service provider came out and said it was too complicated and beyond his scope. He knows what's wrong and what needs to be done, and he said he would get back to American Home Shield and I would hear back from them. I never did, then when I went back online, the service request is marked as closed. I don't care for that.
I had a problem with the dryer, and the service provider ended up being A&E, which is Sears. I've had an extended warranty with Sears, and there are levels of service providers at Sears. A&E, the one that AHS sent, is their best level of service. So I was impressed I didn't have to go through the nonsense of their poor technicians. That got resolved, no problem. Although, I haven't gotten the reimbursement back yet. It's my refrigerator, freezer, and my oven that are problematic, and they still have not been reconciled.
The refrigerator is an older Sub-Zero model. I've called Sub-Zero before, and they have their own preferred repair people. They said they could send them, but they wouldn't work with any of the home warranty companies. It's a more expensive brand, and so far, it has not been fixed. The oven is Thermador, and the service providers just can't figure it out. American Home Shield has been supportive, and I don't want, necessarily, a replacement. I'd like them to fix what the problem is. They reported back that it has been fixed, then I called and said, "It's not been fixed." They closed the case anyway, and that was frustrating.
Other than that, I don't have any major complaints. American Home Shield sends out quality people. I understand that often, you get new service providers trying to make their own business and that's people that will accept home warranty business. But for whatever reason, the service providers that work with American Home Shield are better than the previous home warranty company I've used.
So far though, I've not gotten any follow up from American Home Shield. When the service providers come in and say something needs to be ordered or done, and they always say. "We will report back to American Home Shield and they will call you back." I've never gotten a call back. I have to chase everything down myself, which is not the end of the world, but it's not particularly good service. It would be different if the service provider said, "You're responsible to track this down. I'll report back to American Home Shield." Although, that doesn't sound like good service either.

Both of my central air units had a problem in June. The vendor came out and they put some more refrigerant. They said the unit on the first floor was done. But they have not fixed the unit in the second floor for almost two months. I'm totally upset. The people at American Home Shield that take up the customer service calls are terrible. If I wanna talk to your manager, the rep said, “Why do you wanna talk to a manager? I'm not gonna give it to a manager.” I don't know how to get to somebody in this country. I keep on getting these people in Colombia or someplace else. They don't understand half of the stuff. I couldn't even get to a manager to explain my problem. I was almost at the edge to get rid of this AHS and try to go find some other company. I was so furious.
I sat without an AC in the second floor for most of the summer. Then the first floor unit broke again. I talked to AHS and they got the Sears guy to come and look at it this time. When he was coming here for the first floor, I told American Home Shield, “Please transfer the other one too because that's sitting there for two months.” So, they transferred it to the Sears person.
The tech came and fixed the first floor unit because there was a part that was not working that was not identified by the other company when they came out first. The other company just took 300 bucks and filled up the refrigerant and left. Then the second one didn't even fix it. They're terrible. They should be off of American Home Shield's list. But the Sears guy fixed both of them. So I'm happy with Sears.
The customer service at American Home Shield is awful. But one of the customer service people that came on board after two months was very helpful. He said, “Yeah. I will transfer the case to Sears. And let us see if this guy is good.” That was done well. He helped to get this resolved after two months. The Sears people were very responsible and they understood the problem. American Home Shield should have some way of getting to somebody in this country, at least when there is an escalation of a problem. They cannot keep on sending us to some third-world country where they don't understand what customer service is all about.

American Home Shield completely misrepresents its services. Online they say that they cover pre-existing conditions with no problems. When I submitted to get my refrigerator fixed by this company, they refused to fix it stating that it was a pre-existing condition. Then not only did I upgrade packages in order to get better service. When it came time to fix in my air conditioner unit, I was told that there are costs that will not be covered by insurance. But if I were to upgrade into even more premium package they would be. Never again will I ever be using this company. Only the end of my contract that I figure out that there was a class action lawsuit against this company.

I had an ongoing air conditioning problem. The techs used to do something, leave and then the AC gets turned off again. I called the tech back and he said, "I can't come back. You have to call American Home Shield". That happened four times. Finally, the techs resolved what the issue was. AHS should hold the vendor responsible for two days so that they can come back directly instead of me having to go through the whole process again to get the vendors out. I should just call the vendor and he should come back and fix it, instead of me calling American Home Shield to open up another ticket, and then giving me an appointment for five days. This becomes a problem and that was not a good experience.
Right now, I have a hot water issue for about four days. I called them and the earliest appointment I have is for tomorrow. And I hope they're not going to come tomorrow then they're gonna say, "We are going to order the parts and then the parts will come in two weeks." You can't live without hot water. Right now, the temperature is still decent. But what if this happens in winter.

It was the best group of people I had come to my house. Their service was so good. I will always use them for plumbing.
I love American Home Shield because whenever there was an issue, they sent people out to my house who were superior in knowledge. The two techs that came out to my house were not only professional and knowledgeable, but they went above and beyond. When you do something with American Home Shield and you pay the deductible, it’s just for the service of what you're doing. They checked a whole bunch of stuff to make sure that when they left, the issue was just that and it wasn't something else. To me, that's above and beyond. For the dishwasher, it needed a new control panel. For the icemaker, they had to replace either the motor or the whole icemaker component on the refrigerator. For the washing machine, they thought they needed to tighten up the bolt at first. But they had to overhaul the motor and the bottom bolt that holds the tub in place. All of them were completed. The $200 they're giving is not gonna cover it. It also took them about eight months to fix my washing machine. They need more people to take care of issues. They need to fix things. If they can't, they gotta figure it out and not leave it to their customers. I'm a frustrated consumer now. I call and have to wait hours to get through to a representative. AHS tried to fix my refrigerator a few times and they couldn't. So they're giving me money to buy a new one which is cool. But it didn't work out so well with the previous situation with my air conditioning. They sent people out five times over the course of a year and a half. They couldn't get it fixed. Finally, I had to buy one for $16,000 and I wasn't happy about that. I also didn't like that I wanted an upgrade to cover all the rest of my other things in the house and they won't let me do that. They say I have to do that 30 days before I renew and it's frustrating.
Also, they have sent people that were not competent really the first time or the second time. They had sent a guy to fix the refrigerator. He fixed it and it worked for a little while. After 30 days, I noticed it wasn't actually fixed. I called back and I had to pay again for them to send another tech out. He took my refrigerator apart and left it apart for a week explaining that it needed to defrost and that it takes 5 days to do that which was absolutely bull. He came back, put it together and it worked for a little while, and then it didn't work.
I had to call again and AHS sent another guy who said, "Well it can't be fixed." So, they're going to compensate me and help me get a new one, which was fine with me. It has been a back-and-forth thing but as far as American Home Shield is concerned, they're a good company. I'm okay with them. They've been trying to help me out as best as they can.

We moved into a home that is quite a bit older, and there has never been any hesitation with American Home Shield about, “Yeah, we’ll fix it. Yeah, we got you.” We had five things break down since we moved in a week and a half ago. They’ve been wonderful. The warranty itself is well worth the money. It's been very useful and it's already saved us thousands of dollars. The website is perpetually broken and I am unfortunately very deaf, so phone calls are often difficult for me. They don’t have a way to communicate with them that is not on the phone right now, and that's a little frustrating for me. It does make things difficult. If we were able to get the website fixed up, that would be awesome.
The texts that they’re sending out for the most part have been phenomenal. We did have one issue with something that couldn't be accessed but that doesn't have anything to do with the warranty. It's all in the fine print. The companies that they're sending out have been really good. They're quick and communicative. I just wish I would not get 15 email messages, not only for updates but reviews, because I'm getting them from both the companies they're sending and from AHS. I did a whole bunch of reviews and I was like, “Oh my God, no, I can't do five more.” I’m on average getting two reviews by text, and one by email for every single thing, not just the services themselves, but every phone call, every communication, and every update I'm getting survey requests. It is way too much and it's making me not want to do them at all. As a consumer, I know those surveys are important, but they should only be after a completed service.

Our refrigerator started leaking after we had our wood floors refinished in the kitchen. We had to have it moved outside then we had someone come to fix it. Also, at the time, the oven was not being responsive to my touch. We had someone come out to deal with the oven and the refrigerator. The first gentleman was quick in coming to repair. We had everyone come in through the back gate to do any servicing because the kitchen is off the backside of the house. I felt like he was upset that we were making him come through the back door instead of coming through the front door. He wasn't even listening to me. Then he finally threw up his hands in the air and told me to get someone else. He didn't even look at the refrigerator. The next one was AT Appliance. The repairman was excellent. He came in, looked at the oven, believed what I said, but we couldn't make the issue happen again. At the time, the oven was working. I had a backed up pipe that was dripping. I didn't know what was going on with it because it had just been doing that really recently and I've gotten it cleaned out. I went online to my account to submit a service request and American Home Shield responded very quickly. I got a phone call right away the next day after I submitted it then the tech came the following day to service it. He evaluated everything with the unit, then he was able to clear that out and determine what was wrong.
At this point, I don't feel having a home warranty has much of a benefit. I should have canceled it a while ago. However, it was definitely helpful when I first moved in because trying to adjust and not have any enormous unexpected costs is important. Also, it is easier to get service more quickly using them versus trying to get somebody out here on my own.

The tankless water heater wasn't doing its job and the water wasn't coming out warm. We had to wait a long time. AHS sent a contractor and the tech didn't check the temperature or open the cabinet to the water heater itself or look at the cabinet where the switches are. We requested a second opinion and those techs did a review. We're waiting for their opinion. I've also had AHS for my air conditioner. They're not communicating personally. All I can do is put something on the computer but not put any questions or comments.
If I could do a daily update, I could put in what happened and they could review it. AHS and I would both know where we are instead of having this anxiety. I still don't know what the plumber has written up for that decision.

We've had American Home Shield off and on for 15 years and I like its prompt service, it's easy to do the work orders and get feedback. I like the availability of the customer service, too. I had a recent claim where Air Magic came out, and it went well. They found the problem within just a half hour, but they had to get another work order to repair the electrical problem so they can repair the air conditioning. They had to come back a week later so we were without air conditioning for a week. They were able to repair the air conditioning within an hour and it's working great. John, the owner of Air Magic, came out and did the work order himself because he didn't have anybody else available. He took care of us. It would have been about four days before somebody could have gotten to us, so we appreciated that.

The service with American Home Shield has been really on the back track. It’s been very slow. I placed the service ticket for the cooking range on May 23rd. It took about three months to have it done. Somebody came out for the refrigerator. It is not even fixed. The company they contracted with came on July 25th. I followed at least 70 times. Every call takes about one to two hours minimum. I don’t get any feedback, and I was going back and forth with the contractor and American Home Shield. There is no resolution to date. American Home Shield does not even know what is the next step. So, every time we call, they’ll say, “Contact after one week.”

I have a recurring issue with my Samsung refrigerator. It was three occasions before that repair was made. The first one that American Home Shield called was a subsidiary of Sears. They sent a representative who was very technically savvy. I was very impressed with him. He arrived very quickly. The turnaround time was fantastic. I anticipated a couple of days, but he called the next day and showed up at my residence. He seemed to be well-experienced. He changed out a panel in the back of the refrigerator and said that that was allowing ice to build up and that was causing the problem. He had a part on the truck and made the repair.
About two weeks later, I heard lots of noise in the area and called again. The same technician returned. He removed that panel, saw ice build-up, and said that someone must have left the door ajar because that would cause condensation and ice build-up. The fan was striking the ice, so that was causing the noise. He said if I had that issue again, a simple repair follow-up would be to unplug it and let it defrost, but for me to monitor it to make sure that persons didn't leave the door ajar for sustained periods. I monitored it closely. But instead of getting the noise again, within a week later, it would not cool down to a set point. We put in another call. The note was a recall because that was one of the first issues.
They sent another a different technician from the same company. The technician said, "It's this rear panel board. Sometimes, there are some issues with this component and we've seen it several times. Oftentimes, we may have to replace it more than once until the component works properly." He had the new replacement on his truck. When he removed it, he said that he wanted to make extra care that all went well, that he had to wipe down the area in the back to remove any current condensation so it wouldn't be a problem later. That was something a little different that I saw. He wiped it down and put another panel in the back of the refrigerator.
So far, I've been well pleased. The food has been to temperature. It's not spoiling like it was and it seemed to control the setpoint. I knew that that wasn't the fault of American Home Shield, but it's very easy that you get a part. It's a mechanical failure. You put a part in and sometimes it can malfunction. As far as American Home Shield's response, getting a technician out and making an attempt to give a repair, I'm pleased with them and I recommend them a lot of times to relatives and friends.

The only thing is AHS says, “Go online and submit a claim,” and you can't do that online. Every time I click submit it, it takes me back to the dashboard. American Home Shield takes forever for some repairs. I had an issue with old pipes and they were replaced. It was handled nicely but it took a couple of weeks. There was a lot going on at that time and the contractor at least communicated that they were going to come back out. Also, they were very professional. They did the initial inspection and came back with the equipment needed to take care of it. But when they came out the second time, it took a little bit of time because they needed two guys to help out with it. I have an issue now with the air conditioner through Sears. They do their initial assessment, which is fine. But the second part to do the work always takes forever.
I've had American Home Shield for a couple of homes now. They come through for you and have reputable service people, so you don't have to go through, "I don't know if this guy is going to rip me off," kind of scenario. As a single woman, you think of things like that so, in that particular situation, their people seem to be straight-up for the most part. They come, do their job, and the value in that is worth it. It's like a peace of mind. You don't have to look through Instagram or friends for contractors to do certain things for you. Their people on the phone are courteous, effective and advocate for you if things don’t get done, which is super duper important.

Appliance Reliance came out for my AHS claim. The first issue was the refrigerator was not staying cold. It was showing on the sensor as way higher than it should be. First, the tech helped me out with the dampener, which brings the air to go into the cooling system to cool off and sends the cool air into the actual refrigerator. So that worked. Then, he changed the sensor and that worked too.
But after he changed those two, the display unit was taking a long time to get back. If I opened the door for a minute and I would close it, it would go up to 45, and it was not supposed to do that. He came back and put a different sensor and changed the board under the main circuit unit of the actual refrigerator. That seems to be perfect. Everything's working now. I've also used AHS for my air conditioning, the refrigerator and the garage door. I'm very pleased. I've already been recommending AHS to people.

The first guy that came out was a kid. He went to Roto-rooter in the shower downstairs where it does come out jet-black like motor oil, and he broke the head off in his Roto-rooter. He stepped back and said, “I'm done. We'll have to send a sewer guy out.” I called the company to see if somebody else would come next day. I already took off one day at work because these guys come from 8:00 to 5:00. I burned a day of vacation. Next day, the owner came out. He got the head out of the Roto-rooter and said he would send a sewer guy out.
It was going to be Friday. I couldn't take off work that Friday. So, I called, left a message, tried to reschedule it. I told him I would be around. I got off work at 4 o’clock. I work 45 minutes away. And they called me, “It's 4 o'clock, Friday. We're at your house. Nobody's here.” I said, “I'm at work. I can be there in half an hour.” “We'll reschedule for next week.” Never called.
I called the American Home Shield insurance. They didn't like that I wasn't here on Friday, even though I had gone through two days missing work. They couldn't do it for me. So, I screwed around with AHS again. Every time we wash clothes, it comes up, overflows, goes on the floor in the laundry room. I gotta mop that up. The shower is jet-black downstairs because of the thing that comes up from the sewer.
AHSA finally sent a guy out. He said, “There's a cast iron elbow or something in the floor that's gotta be replaced. It just broke.” He shot AHS an estimate. AHS shot him down. He's too expensive. So, I'm waiting for something. I'm dealing with sewage coming up and the smell, can't wash clothes or use the second bathroom. I can use the toilet in the second bathroom and the sink. Can't use the tub or the shower. In the master bedroom, where the main bathroom is, we get this god awful odor because it's straight above the shower downstairs where everything comes up.
I got a mixture of baking soda, Clorox, and vinegar that I pour down there once a week, sometimes twice if the odor gets really bad, and I've been maintaining this. I don't understand what's the problem after I screwed around last two days of work, didn't get anything accomplished other than, “We'll get back with you.” I've been screwing around with this for over a month.
I live in the second biggest city in Nebraska. The first biggest city is 40 minutes away in Omaha, where the first crew came from. We can't find anybody. The kid was apologetic and when I talked to him about, “This is the way you know you lose customers. If I ran my business like this, I would be out.” It was some kind of TJ Plumbing and Shower. But I want the guy that said he could fix the problem. I don’t wanna deal with AHS. I talked to them and the rep wanted to know how to correct this. I explained the situation with him. I said I would give them until Tuesday evening. I haven't heard a boo.

My refrigerator and freezer kept fluctuating in temperature. But when the technician got here, the freezer and fridge were running fine and correctly. He looked at the fridge and said there was nothing he could do. Then, maybe an hour after he left, the temperature on the fridge started fluctuating again and it's been about three weeks now where, every day, the fridge will be okay for a few hours and then it'll start raising the temperature again and all my food has gotten messed up multiple times. I've had this problem before. I've had multiple Frigidaire fridges so I know that the condenser relay or the controller board are normally the issues. So, I told the technician that and he said he couldn't fix it if it was not broken. So, he didn't look in anything too much. He just unscrewed the back of the fridge and checked the fans, which I had already done myself and told him they were okay. But he was friendly and a good guy.
The only thing is, potentially, I might get a refund on the $85 service fee but that's still a maybe. Other than that, American Home Shield hasn't helped me out in any way. Every time I request service for the same exact issue, they always assign technicians who couldn't come out for at least six to seven days, which is frustrating. So, I just contacted a technician on my own that's able to come the same day. So, I don't understand why a company whose job it is to do that can't do it. I would highly recommend considering American Home Shield. Every time we've interacted with them, it's been a great experience. Recently, we had been having issues with our air conditioner. It was running all day, every day, for several weeks. It was partially because it had been so hot over the summer, but I figured it was better to have someone come out and make sure there was no major issue. The contractor who came was super friendly. They were a little later than they said they were going to be, but that wasn't a huge issue. All they did was recharge our air conditioning unit with refrigerant coolant and the unit is now running better. The air coming out of the vents now is significantly cooler. We also have a Nest thermostat which shows us how long our unit is running every day and it's decreased significantly.

When I run into an issue, AHS quickly tries to resolve it. There was an incident that I had with one of the service providers that came out and did a repair. They fixed the problem, then it happened again. As soon as I called AHS, they reimbursed me the service fee and got the service provider back out to fix it within 72 hours or so. So, it was a quick response and that really put confidence back into my home warranty company. Then, I had to open up my claim again since I lapsed the 30-day recall.
As for the contractor, at first, they did a good job. But when that incident happened, I thought they didn't put enough glue or adhesive on there because the things separated at the area for that shut off valve they put on. But when they came back out, they extended it and they did a better job the second time around, which made the wife happy. So, if the wife's happy, I'm happy. All in all, I would tell my friends to go with AHS. They got flexible plans that cover a lot of stuff that normally people wouldn't think that a home warranty would cover.

With American Home Shield, I like that it’s a flat rate when I need a plumber or some other specialty person to come out and look at an issue. I have a pipe that clogs from our kitchen sink. JT&K got out here within a couple of days. They were pretty good. They put booties on their feet. I cleared out under the sink for them, so they didn’t have to do any of that. They pulled it all apart and snaked it. Everything's going well.

So far, American Home Shield's service has been good. When I first used it, I didn't understand how their system worked and what I had to do first. I had an issue at my other home, and I handled that emergency the best way I thought. I also forgot that I had this service, and when I realized it, I called and tried to get the claim put in. However, I bypassed their steps, and if you bypass that, you can't use the service.
Recently, my water heater flooded up my downstairs. I turned the water off, but it was above my paygrade because I haven't worked with gas that much. I took a backseat to this one and let someone else deal with it. The repair company was out pretty quickly compared to normal services that I've had before. They were out around three hours after I made the phone call, but they had to order the part. They came out the next day and fixed it.

They've been trying to work that out with AHS. So, AHS contracted someone else out to come by. And they came by. We got it done. Everything was great.

I question the quality of some of the vendors American Home Shield uses. A year or two ago, we had a leak in the master shower. It kept dripping and they sent two people out here. The first one said it was the Waterpik shower attached and they won't do anything. AHS sent someone else out who said the same thing and that was it. My husband took the Waterpik off and it was dripping. Sure enough, the pipe itself was corroded and leaking. It cost us over $1,000 out of pocket which it should not have. Really pissed us off about that. But I didn't fight it any further. It's not worth it.
Also, they've had people out here on the pool. One guy put on the wrong size motor for the pool pump so we ended up getting a different pool company out and having to buy a new one ourselves. This time about the refrigerator, I really was not happy. The guy from Eric VIze Appliance called. He was very nice and he came out the next morning early. He said it was out of Freon but it's a sealed unit that his company could not take care of it. He said he would put a note in to AHS to send someone out that could put Freon in it and fix wherever it was leaking from.
We called and we kept asking AHS to send somebody out. They said they don't know who they're gonna get to do it but they said they would expedite it. They tried to give it to another company who said this Monday or Wednesday would be the earliest, even when expedited, and that's not acceptable today. Not when we have two medications that have to be kept refrigerated. We asked if we could talk to a manager and they said there was no manager there. We were getting nowhere so we went to Spencer's and purchased a refrigerator on our own.

In the past, American Home Shield has done very good. They've replaced several air conditioners. I have two homes. And at one point, I had three contracts with them. And the other two homes, they changed air conditioners for me, and have done a refrigerator repair for me. They've been worth paying for, up until these last two.
The man looked at the unit and said it couldn't be repaired, it was a factory defect, and he left. And AHS decided that it was a defect, and it couldn't be repaired. They told me to call Frigidaire, who told me there was nothing they could do because it's a 7-year-old refrigerator. So, I requested that AHS send out a second opinion. They did yesterday, and the man there said, “Sure, it can be repaired. There's no problem.” The refrigerator is not working. It has a problem. And he would order two parts. I haven’t heard anything from AHS about that information. The only thing they did was they went on the opinion of the first guy, who all he looked at was the freezer that has two little cracks in it. And he said it couldn’t be repaired, it’s a factory defect, which has nothing to do with the refrigerator. It's the other side. So, I’m not happy with AHS.
Recently, they’ve done a couple of things. I have the main water shut-off valve to my home and it needed to be replaced. It’s not under the slab. It’s one foot outside the slab. They said they wouldn’t cover that because it’s outside the slab. First they told me they would cover it, because I called to make sure before I put in the work order, and the person that I talked to did some checking. He came back. Said, “Yes, we cover that.” But AHS came back and said, “No, it’s outside the slab, we don’t repair it.” But there’s no way it could be put under the slab, because you wouldn’t be able to get to it to shut it off. AHS said, “According to so and so, in your contract, we don’t cover if it’s outside the slab." But the guy that I first called said it was covered. I paid the $75, because they had the men come out here and help them decide that they wouldn't cover it.

American Home Shield sent Total Air Care out August 25th of 2021 for the same problem that was going on with the AC unit itself and they did not correct it. There was an overflow check valve that shuts the unit off so the unit will not fill up with water. The tech took it out and put tape on it so my unit would continue to run but the overflow valve would not shut off. I was not happy with Total Air Care because if it had ruined my unit, I would have took them to court.

Sometimes American Home Shield doesn't replace something that should be replaced. We have an expensive range which was here when we moved in and that must have cost $2,000. There was a bad cord at the back. They replaced that. But where they insert the panel melted and they didn't replace it. They said it was cosmetic. At a different house, we had a GE Profile dishwasher. American Home Shield would only replace up to a certain amount. It wasn’t something that we did. The unit wasn't abused. But they wouldn't replace it. They ended up cashing out and we ended up with an Electra unit.
We’re paying 900 a year. There are times that their contractor will come out for something then come out for the same thing shortly and charge us again. Also, calling American Home Shield and taking an hour or two hours on the phone is a hassle. Sometimes we just shy away from doing it, or we'll wait till it's two or three things that are down. But American Home Shield is still a good company. It works out when their contractors come and do some work. We used to have them at a different house, and they covered a full equipment.

American Home Shield is one of the best purchases I've made in the last 20 years. The service is great. The quick turnaround time between me filing the claim and getting somebody out here to look at it to see what's going on is beneficial as well as being able to talk to someone on the phone and sending the pictures of the model number to make sure that all the parts were readily available regardless of what would have been my problem. Whenever I voiced my concerns to AHS, they told me there was nothing they could do about it but leave them off my list. I requested for a service from AHS because my refrigerator was leaking water. They assigned me one provider and they had up to 24 hours to call me or book an appointment but I didn't hear from this first provider. Time had lapsed and I tried to call several times but I never received a return phone call. And their voicemail box was full. So I had to call American Home Shield back and get a second provider. They gave me another company and the same thing happened. I couldn't get an appointment and nobody would call me back.
So I had to go through the process three times and the main problem was with American Home Shield. I was trying to let them know that my refrigerator was leaking and since I have wood floors it was not something that could be kept waiting. But they wanted me to keep waiting, allowing the 24 hours for each provider they sent to me until I had to really to escalate the matter and said that they were going to be responsible for fixing my floors when my wood floors go bad. It wasn't until then and when I said that I was going to cancel my plan with American Home Shield that they finally got me Waves. And he came out within two hours. Other than this particular instance, I've used AHS previously and they've been okay.

I needed that repaired. And I had a bathroom faucet in the bathtub that would not shut off. It just kept going round and round. It was a single faucet that you turn to get turned off, and I couldn't get it to turn off very easily.
The third one is the hand sprayer. It switches from the hand sprayer to the shower. There was a little nozzle. And it was broken underneath the little nozzle, so it wasn’t spraying out properly. When the man came out, he looked at it, and found that it was broken. So, he repaired it. It was the little stem that came out of the wall that attached to the hose that went into the hand one, and that piece was broken. So you can turn the little handle that goes on there, but nothing was flowing because it was broken. AHS did a good job. I've had several of them not show up even after an appointment. I've had people who I've used more than once and they become very difficult to get ahold of. One gentleman had the same excuse. He told me the exact same thing verbatim that he had some kind of health emergency. AHS has no follow-through and the most annoying are the customer service reps. They are very difficult to understand. I ask them a question and it's almost as if they're robotic. They're reading off a script and not addressing the question or the issue. They just repeat the same thing over and over again. I have an issue and they always say I have to give it 24 to 48 hours until they read the email, and then I have to wait another 24 to 48 hours for them to contact me. It's extremely difficult.
We have two properties and one of our contracts just ended and we did not renew. One of our properties is a rental, so it's important that we have somebody go to them when they say that they're going to go to them because a lot of times, they take off of work for the appointment or my husband and I take off of work for the appointment. And when the contractor doesn't show, it becomes an issue. I worked customer service for about 20 years and now I'm a teacher. So, I'm an extremely patient person. But I almost have to meditate before I call because it's that stressful for me to call them. As soon as this contract is over, I'm definitely not renewing.

Finally, in August of last year, they agreed to send it to his shop. He came out and installed it. The unit ran for three days and died. I refused to have him back on my property. AHS kept telling me he has to come out and I kept telling them it ain't gonna happen.
We argued back and forth with AHS on that and that's part of the 100 phone calls that I had with them. They aren't the easiest company to work with at all. To top it off, I have to pay for my own Freon, and every time the techs go out they want to drain the system. That cost me another $800. They did the exact same thing, but they used a Gatorade jug. They filled it halfway with water, stuck the yellow hose in it, and opened up both valves. I didn't care because I needed an air conditioner in the house but something needs to be done about all these damn air conditioning companies that are not reclaiming the Freon. Everything has to be reclaimed and run through a filtering machine. That would stay in the machine and not go to the atmosphere because of all the GSCE hydrocarbons in it.
The last repairs have gone a lot smoother which was extremely nice for a change. The last time was a month ago and the contractor was Advanced Air out of Visalia. Their tech Gabriel was very knowledgeable. There was a circuit board in the attic that the inside blower would turn on and off and make a burning sound that would carry on for hours at a time. Finally, it would turn off and I'd have to lower the thermostat and hit a manual fan button. It would come on for a little bit, but then it'd go back out again. He had to put a bypass in there with a relay for the fan. He was nice enough to wire in a bypass so we can at least have air conditioning in the house.
He said he would order the board and it would be about a week. That following Friday, he called me and asked me if I was at home and I told him, "No. Unfortunately, I'm at work. I work in Clovis." And he goes, "Can you get to your house today?" And I said, "That's gonna be impossible." He goes, "Your circuit board came in. I want to stop by and put it in." I couldn't believe it. I had to make an appointment for the following week and I had to take a day off and that cost me a vacation day, which I'm not happy about, but at least my air conditioner was fixed.

I bought the better policy, more expensive than the one I had the year prior with AHS. With that policy came a free inspection of our air conditioning unit, making sure it was up to par. On May 24th the old policy ended. The new policy began. By the time I got an appointment with Gibson Air Conditioning it was July the 1st. The fellow went up on the roof. He took the hose and did whatever he was doing up in the parapet there. He told me everything was fine. Three weeks later, I went down and turned on the air conditioning. The best I could get was 84 degrees within the unit. Each room was 80 degrees. The unit was running from about 10:00 a.m. till about 10:00 p.m. The unit never got cool.
I requested another visit from a different company. They reviewed, said, “Looks like everything's fine.” I put on the air conditioning. Couldn't get anything cooler than 82 degrees. So, I requested a revisit. The next guy came out. This time, I had the air conditioning running for six hours before he got here. He came back with, “You have a bad fan.” So, that was the problem. When the fan was not working, the unit would shut off automatically, preventing it from overheating. The guy came back with the fan. It had to be ordered. He installed it. I got down into the 70s. Took a while, but we finally got a cool down.
The other problem that I had was when I would call, I would deal with a lot of foreigners. They may not comprehend what you're trying to tell them. I got billed $100 for one of those visits. I tried to tell them, “This all stemmed from the original visit that was a look-see part of my contract.” I told them that this $100 needs to be refunded ASAP. I still am waiting for it. Last week, I called again. The guy told me, “It'll be a couple of business days. You'll see it.” But I heard that four times already.

My mechanical room was full of water, and the AC was not working. The entire house was super hot. So, I contacted Home Shield. First, I said, “Since both the water heater and the AC unit sit next to each other, the entire area has watermarks out there. I don't know which one it could be. Either it’s water heater or AC. But I can see water. And my AC is not working.” Home Shield started with the water heater. They assigned some company. They came and they checked and they said my water heater is okay. They checked this AC thing too, and the tech said he did something. He said it has to open, but then that's a lot of work like that.
So, later I again called Home Shield, and I explained the situation. My AC was still having the issue. So, they assigned the same ticket to some other company. They came and they checked a blower capacitor. So, there are four to five things he explained. He said he will update his findings to American Home Shield. Based on the approvals, they will do the repair. At least, I was satisfied with his feedback on the day, the detailed analysis, and the way he explained things.

Sometimes AHS is very late and they don't do the claim right. I came in for a doorbell one time but the tech only fixed the gate but not the door and they both buzzed together. I ended up getting somebody else to do it so I paid out of pocket twice. The other tech said, “I don’t know why the guy that came here could not figure out that when you ring the doorbell, you buzz two doors together. It's very simple. They just had to tighten a screw". But that's the only thing I had a problem with with Home Shield.
Recently, I had a water heater issue. Zack's Plumbing was great. There was no taking me around corners. He was one of the best plumbers I've ever had. Everything was fine with the claim. He did a water heater and whatever goes with it.

When I call and put in a claim, the techs act when they come here and take care of the problem. There’s no hassle. Sometimes, I have to make a recall on one thing. American Home Shield sends another company out, and they agree with it. Overall, I like AHS about 95%. 5%, I’m dissatisfied. On the last claim I put in on my air conditioner, they said the part wasn’t covered. Other than that, I have no problems with them at all. There was a loud vibration coming from the condenser outside and very loud noise and vibrations going through the living room and second-floor bedrooms on the side on which the equipment is mounted on the outside of the house. So, I contacted American Home Shield to get an appointment to see what was going on. In the conversations, they were like, “Don't worry. What has happened? We will figure it out. And if there's a part that needs to be replaced, we will replace it. And if there's something that needs to be completely changed, we will change it.” The first company that came in was not willing to see the unit in a way that I felt. It doesn't make any sense for me just to look at a unit and say, “Yeah. It's working fine.” I was like, “You can literally hear it. You can literally feel the vibration. How can you tell me that it's just working fine?” We did not have good customer service from the first company that came in.
They cleaned the equipment and they were like, “It's low on Freon. So, probably, the noise is coming from your compressor.” They put Freon on the equipment, but nothing changed. I can google stuff. So, I then work on HVAC. I was like, “There's like a junction box in there. You got relays and wiring and things that break inside, and they vibrate when they're going off. So, aren't you gonna inspect any of that?” The guy was like, “The unit's working. Is your home cool?” I was like, “Yeah, even with the low Freon. I'm not complaining about the temperature.” They went on their way and they were like, “If you're not happy with our assessment, we will send somebody else.” I was like, “Yeah. Please. A second opinion. Yeah, yeah. I would like a second opinion. Awesome.”
I filled out a questionnaire. I put my five words in there about this company. Then I got a call back from the owner of the company. I was like, “Why are you calling me? Shouldn't be this private? You shouldn't know that I'm saying things about not being happy about your service.” I called the insurance company and I explained to them what was happening. They said, “Yeah. The company said that there's something wrong with the unit and they will replace the compressor. This is gonna be at no charge for you.” I said, “Okay. Awesome. But I don't want them. I don't want them back in my house. Absolutely, don't want them back in my house.”
AHS sent me a second company, which was Piedmont. They told me, “Piedmont should be the top-rated company that we have. I don't know why we sent this other company to you, blah, blah blah.” So, Piedmont came in. The tech was a very nice, super friendly, and easy-to-talk guy. Unfortunately, he explained to me some of the do's and don'ts and how. I asked a few questions like how are we gonna make the most amount of money? By replacing the equipment or by the visit? He told me, "It's by the visit. Replacing the equipment takes way longer, and I don't make more money." That pretty much came back to me as, “We will not replace the equipment. If the unit is cooling, it's working."
He never inspected the unit. We just talked, and I explained what the other crew told me and what can be wrong with the unit. He moved the piping to try to mitigate the vibration going into the walls of the house. It was like, “You know what? There's nothing else I can do.” At that point, I was like, “You know what? I'm already wasting my mornings. And, okay, that's what it is. Please be as honest as you can. This is the feedback that I got from the company before based on the notes that are on the insurance company system, not by the company itself, the contractor. So, please. They promised me that. I assumed you were coming to assess what it was needing, not to assess and say, like, ‘Hey, the unit’s working. Nothing I can do.’” The vibration is still there. The noise is still there.
I've watched so many videos from service companies. I probably can get a service call, and they will take the unit apart. They will review everything. They will clean the inside out of the unit. They will open the electrical box and they will really go through the unit to make an assessment. Nobody did. Not even a Phillips screw was used. The only change that happened with the unit is that the first team that got here cleaned it. They washed it with my hose. They put a chemical in it, so it got a little bit clean, but I know how to clean those units.
I'm still not getting a circle on the situation. It's been about a month and if I don't call them, they're not gonna call me back. The second customer service guy that I spoke to told me, “I can refund you your 100 bucks.” I was like, “I don't care about 100 bucks. I care about where it was supposed to be honored by the first crew and replace the unit as what it was supposed to.”

But water is leaking all over my floor. I gotta have a towel down here. And I told him that the faucet was leaking, but he did not fix that. He said that was wear and tear. And I can't change it. I had bought one, so it wasn't like he had to get one of his own. I had a guy come switch my light switch, and he put it upside down. It’s always shoddy. I don't trust these people. I had brown spots on my ceiling. I called American Home Shield so they could send a contractor out and see if they could fix that for me. They went ahead and sent a guy. He came out and assessed it. He said he had to go ahead and send the crew over to do it. He said I needed to have a coil changed and that he wasn't coming, but his crew would. So, they went ahead, and they came last Friday. But they made me wait all day. And he didn't come until 5 o'clock. When he came, he realized that there was copper tubing. And for some reason, they had to change that. We had it professionally installed, and that's what they put in. And it's not a very old air condition unit. But we went ahead with that.
He said he didn't have the parts. So, he said he would call me that night to come out to see when he could come out to get it fixed. And he said it would be a three-hour job. He called me back and asked me, Labor Day, Monday, “Are you gonna be home?” I said yes so he could get it done. And he said, “Okay. We'll be there noon-ish.” We made the point of being home all day long. But no one showed. No one called. I called the office, and they were closed because it's Labor Day.
I called yesterday, and they told me that the ticket has been closed. So, she sent me to some senior representative. So, I talked to her. She apologized. But she said she would check into it. So, she did, and she said a plumber had to come out. And she said she didn't know if AHS would pay for that. I said, “That's not gonna happen. If I have to pay for it, then I'll choose who I want.” So, I said, “Can you have them call me?” No one did.
I got a text saying something about calling the contractor last night to schedule, that it has been approved. Still, I don't know what has been approved. It's just a text that says it has been approved, call and schedule. I've never had this issue with them before. Nobody can answer my questions, so I don't understand where all the complications are coming from. And somebody told me that the copper thing wasn't legal. I don't understand. If a company did it for me, what's going on?

It was just GE that I had the initial issue with because of how they kept putting me off. That's what threw it behind so much. GE started on August 6th, did not get settled until the 29th, which my refrigerator is scheduled for tomorrow. So, I ended up going out to buy me another one. I'm just doing a cash-out. And AHS will send me like a check. When I called back to let them know that GE kept rescheduling on me, they found someone else. But what I didn't realize is that when I called and they sent another company out, even though that company said I need to get a new refrigerator, they still had to get somebody else to come out and look at it. And it took another two weeks. But AHS has been fine.

Jeffrey's Appliance is a good repair service. I also used them at my past home. This time, the oven door front panel glass broke, and I sat in the room with repair man when he did the job. He took off the door, cleaned out the glass, and replaced it and took everything with him when he left. Everything went fine, and the front panel is just like when it was new. I tell friends all the time, "Get it because it'll save you a lot of money." I've had American Home Shield when I owned my last home, so I just transferred it when it came to this one. My mom got it first then she told me and my sister so we got it.

The kitchen sink pipe was busted and then another pipe under the house was busted. Altstadt Hoffman Plumbing was wonderful. They were my second opinion after Next Plumbing decided to not do anything. Altstadt was out there the next day and had me fixed the next day after that. I had been waiting three and a half weeks after Next Plumbing. I fought for three weeks with four different people that I spoke with before AHS finally decided to help. But now that they resolved my pipe issues, it's good.

I wasn't happy with the people that Hotshot Appliance sent out. They came out after I told them what the problem was. They had come out here with the wrong part and had to leave, and they came back again with the wrong part, and then came back again with the right part. It was like a lot of waste of time. I missed a whole day's work waiting around on them. The problems with the dryer had first started about a week or so before they even came out but when they came out, it was ridiculous. Even when I called to try and talk to them, the dispatchers were rude. I asked the supervisor to call me back, but I never got a callback. The third time that they called, I told the person, “Now, ma’am. They need to be on time, between 8:00 and 1:00, not come after 1:00 like they did the last time.” She kind of laughed and I said, “You know, it's not funny. It may be funny to you, but it's not funny to me ‘cause they wasted my time."
The very first guy that came out, though, was good but I told them exactly what was broken, and they still decided to come out here. So, they wasted their time needlessly two times. American Home Shield did call me and try to ask me to change the people and that they want to find somebody else, and I told them no because they'd already been out here. AHS tried to rectify the problem.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

I had a claim with AHS for my water heater. The pan had broken due to a rupture in the tank. It turned out to be way too old. They diagnosed it with it being wear and tear, the pan being ruptured and needing to be replaced. As far as how it went, the first gentleman that came out was useless. He gave me a quote, didn't give me any of the information that the second guy that came out gave me. But overall, as a company, I wasn't satisfied with the overall experience.
From the time we made our claim to the time we got our repair done, took us a month or two. After the repairs were quoted, I found out that only $600 out of a $1,900 repair was going to be covered by American Home Shield. So that made us really frustrated. We were like, "Why do we have American Home Shield?" It's not even half of what the repair was. They offered me a cash-out option, but the lady who explained it to me, because English wasn't her first language, had a hard time and really couldn't give me much information in regard to how that works. I learned it on my own reading over my contract.

The service call fee of AHS is a bit high. But I know the standard nationally is $100, so they are below the national average. I’ve put in two claims so far and they’ve both got taken care of. The toilet was moving whenever we would use it and it wasn't supposed to do that. When I got the service call guy out here, he said he needed to re-caulk it. That was what he did and it stopped moving. It works perfectly fine now. The other one is gonna be taken care of this Thursday. Everything's great as far as I can tell.

I had a very good experience with them. The techs came early and they fixed an aircon. I'm a senior with low income and I like that I have somebody who can help me with my appliances. They're very professional and they get right back to me.

American Home Shield was quick to assign a contractor to come out, but it has been two weeks that I haven't heard back as to what would happen next. I submitted a claim for a washer, dryer, and dishwasher, but the dishwasher had to be a separate claim. Two or three Mondays ago, Whirlpool came out and said they had their claim for the washer, not the dishwasher. But AHS said they would come out for the dishwasher, and I said, "No, they didn't look at the dishwasher. They looked at the washing machine." And Miss Appliance came out and saw the washing machine. But no one has come out to look at the dishwasher.

I had issues with the Samsung refrigerator ice maker and with the Samsung dryer. American Home Shield sent someone out, and after a week, they came back and put in the recall replacement part for the Samsung ice maker. However, they didn't bring what they needed for the dryer, so I'm still waiting on that. The technician's been very good. I liked that they've come back out. I would have liked that he'd come out the time that he came out with having both issues resolved, but that didn't happen.

American Home Shield always takes care of the issue eventually but there's a time delay before something gets fixed and that's my biggest complaint. Usually, somebody shows up within a couple of days to take a look at the issue but what scares me is if the air conditioner or the furnace goes out in the wintertime and the summertime.
I had a washing machine claim and they got a part only to find out there's another part that's causing the problem. At that point, they realized they're gonna get another washing machine for me. The process took so long that we took our clothes over to my sister-in-law's house for a week or two to get it taken care of. Also, it sounds like they had to go through AHS to get the parts, whereas it could have been done quicker if they would have gone to town and found somebody who got the parts in hand. It seems like sometimes it could be done faster.

For my recent claim with AHS, the garbage disposal was busted and B&L fixed it. I hate the website of AHS, though. Because you get to pick a date, you don't get to pick a time. If that day works, it works. If it doesn't, you're ** till later. I had a washer that was supposed to be fixed. They were supposed to come on the 1st. But they didn't. Now I have to wait till the 20th. 20 days later, I'm still without an appliance.

My AC wasn't cooling any longer. You can turn the fan on but there was hot air. I reach out to the contractor once my service was scheduled with them. I did that in about 24 hours. It was the middle of the summer and they had 88 calls that day. It probably won't be that week before they came but they ended up coming within 72 hours after that call.
The techs were top-notch and communicative. They told me that they would send me a tracker for me to know where they were at. They showed up when they were supposed to and did everything. They cleaned up and told me all that was going on. My unit is old and I needed a part that is discontinued. They had to order the part through American Home Shield. That took long and I was without an AC for a good 15 days. Once they had the part, they scheduled a visit within 24 to 48 hours. The part was received on Wednesday and I was serviced on Friday. The AC is perfect now.
When you have a home warranty, you pay one small fee and you get serviced. It could have been a big bill for me. The cost savings is the biggest bang for my buck. Also, customer service checked in quite often, so that was good to know my claim just wasn't forgotten. American Home Shield had already replaced my refrigerator.

I would turn the AC on and it would only blow out a strange smell in the one room that I'm in. Then, when I would turn on the bathroom vent, there would be another strange smell in the bathroom. But there was no smoke. So, I told the gentleman that we just recently had siding done so I wasn't sure if anything had changed and he explained that the AC unit does not pull in air. He described it to me and checked everything but could not figure out where it was coming from. As I suspected, he would not be able to smell it when he got here because I normally smell it during the daytime. So, he just told me to contact them or American Home Shield if it happened again.
Rob, the tech, was super fantastic. He was one of the most professional, kind and super patient individuals that we ever encountered where he literally stayed around long enough to let me run not only that AC but the vent in the bathroom to wait and see if it would continue to emit any odor. I never had anyone who spent that kind of time. He said he had to fill out some paperwork so that would allow him some time to do it. He came back in and did a thorough assessment. He went from the very top floor all the way down to the cellar. Then he went outside to check the AC with a flashlight. I have never ever experienced anything like that. We've dealt with a lot of vendors before and some were greatly disappointing where I've asked for an advocate because they were so horribly bad. But this one, by far, was amazing. He kept us updated even when he couldn't come and would apologize for having us wait. He was just unbelievable.
We had to pay several costs for AHS to realize that the refrigerator freezer was irreparable, but they replaced it. They've replaced our washer as well as our dryer. And they continue to surprise me even though the monthly fee or the annual fees have increased significantly since we've had them. On several occasions, I’ve decided I did not want to keep American Home Shield and I wanted to go with another organization. The fee has almost doubled now since we started with them. So that is a great disappointment. But as far as coverage, they have protected us since we purchased this house in 2016.
