    The first experience that I had with American Home Shield was not so great, but I did not know how they worked. I was under the impression when I first signed up with American Home Shield that when you make and put in a claim and pay for your services, I have a deductible of 125. When I had to have a service done on my air conditioner, they did not collect the 125 until after the services were done and over with with the person that came and looked at my air conditioner. But when I did a claim with my refrigerator and I filled out the claim and put in the work order, American Home Shield took out the deductible the very first day. When I called them, the representative just ran around and around with me. It was a little disconcerting. They were not being consistent with how they were doing things.

    Each time that I sent in a claim, it went good. I just didn't realize they take the deductible out right away. They just didn't do it the first time when I first signed up for services to come out. When the first service was done with my air conditioner, the contractor did not fix it right. So I called American Home Shield and then the contractor called me back and said, "American Home Shield contacted us and said we didn't do it properly. Can we come out to your place today and do it?" So it was awesome.

    I'm very happy with American Home Shield because I just had the claim with my refrigerator and I had issues with Sears. He came back the second time with the parts but did not fix it properly and was getting ready to leave. I told him, "It's not cooling down and you just put a brand-new compressor in and American Home Shield is paying good money for this." He said, "Well, I've done what I'm supposed to. I put it in."

    While he was still there, I called American Home Shield. He got nervous that I was calling American Home Shield. He said, "Let me go out to my truck and find out what American Home Shield wants to do." He did not stay in my home, so I couldn't hear what he was doing, which made me a little uneasy. Then he came back in and said, "I can't fix your refrigerator. They'll be getting ahold of you." So I ended up calling American Home Shield right after he left and we got it settled and situated. But always on American Home Shield, they're awesome. They follow through on everything. If we have any kind of issue, they took care of it right away.

    We filed a claim with AHS for our refrigerator but we never had a callback. So, we called in this morning and we requested Hometown because the owner had come out and worked on our washer and dryer and dishwasher a couple of times. She's really thorough, professional, on time and did a great job. The operator told my wife that they were no longer available. The operator was very short and unprofessional. Couldn't give us an answer why. AHS needs to work on their front end a little bit. We told AHS, "Get us whoever your next best is."

    I was having some problems with my electrical outlets and my lights. They were able to fix the electrical outlets. For the lights, it's still flickering. They called. They traced the lines inside and looked at the panel. They were unable to determine what was happening with the lights. We changed the light bulbs out from LED to incandescent because they said that LEDs sometimes have chips in them that malfunction and cost issues. But even after we changed those lights out, still had problems. The power company was called to say that it might be something on their end. I got good service from them overall. The people who came out and worked were professional. They were communicative and tried to chase down the issues. They were able to solve that one, but not the other.

    I like the coverage of AHS overall. When I have issues, I can just give them a call and have a technician come out. The assignment of the people to come out happens quickly, but then the communication from that company to me sometimes doesn't happen and I have to reach out, even though they say that they should reach out to me within 48 hours usually. That doesn't always happen. There were a couple of times that some people they sent out were also not qualified. So I had to call back and get them to send somebody else. Also, if you refer somebody to AHS and they become a member, you're supposed to get something. I referred a friend of mine and they took out a policy, but I never got that referral.

    We had an issue with one of the prior vendors that had come out through American Home Shield. We didn't appreciate the way they conducted business. We had to, unfortunately, put in another service call for that same issue because we wanted a different vendor. We didn't want that same vendor to come out. So, AHS was able to get somebody out, but we still had to pay the fee for a brand-new ticket, which is a little disappointing. It's still out of pocket just because I didn't want to go with someone who I didn't feel was a good vendor, but the second vendor they sent was fabulous. The first one that came in prior to them was not good. They did a temporary fix and we had the same issue happen again. Overall, having AHS has been cost-effective. The replacement we just had on the AC unit would have cost us a lot of money and it probably made up for that this year.

    A socket had a shortage in one part of it and a plug had to be changed. The tech that came was fine. He's been out here before for something else. So far, American Home Shield's service has been good. Even though I don't use the home warranty that often, it's cost-effective when I do have to use it because it could cost more if I had to bring out an electrician myself.

    There was a time when my air conditioning went out and being in Houston, Texas during the summer months, that was not fun. There wasn't a shortage of anything then. It was just three or four days before the technicians got to get the installation done. It would be good if American Home Shield could provide a place where you can stay during that time period.

    With the two claims I've made so far, the vendors were very professional. They explained what they were doing. There's a ring that helps my washing machine door close but we didn't know how to put it in ourselves. We were trying but it kept popping out and the door wasn't closing. The tech was quick and professional. He took five minutes and fixed it. Although I'm paying a monthly fee to American Home Shield, I still have to pay $100 every time I have a claim. But they are saving me thousands of dollars. If I call a plumber, I have to pay $400 for them to do a simple job. But with AHS, I just pay $100. I'm happy with the service so far, both from the vendors and from American Home Shield.

    They contractor came out to service my air conditioner when it was 107 because it wasn't cooling. I've had this air conditioner for a while. And they have come out almost every year and put a little Freon in it. And it acted the same way. I had turned it off, because my son used to be in air conditioning and he said, “Sometimes it freezes out, mom, so just turn it off for a while.” I turned it off and it wasn't cooling anyway, so I just left it off.

    The contractor finally came out. When they first called and didn't come out for six hours, I called the man that they left me a company with a number. He said, “Ma’am, this is Thursday. And I doubt that I can even get there by Monday.” I knew it would be a while because everybody was having the same problem and it was 107 in Texas. So, that didn't upset me, except I'm 84. And I didn't think I needed to be in a house that was 107 for that many days. So, I just said, “If you can get here any sooner, I would appreciate it.”

    I went to stay the night with my granddaughter. And early the next morning, I got a call from that particular company. It was not the man that I talked to. And said that, “If you can be there, I will be there in 45 minutes.” I said, “I'll be there.” That's how long it takes me to get from her house to mine. I was en route to my house, and he called back and said he had a flat. Bad got worse. But that could happen to anybody. We live in a busy city. So, he said, “I'll call you when I'm on my way.” That was three hours later. And when he came out here, I told him I thought I have just a tiny leak in the line. And they’ve put Stop Leak in it. But still, if it gets hot, it runs all the time. And it was running 24 hours a day because that's just how hot it was.

    He tore into it and said, “You just need a capacitor.” I said, “Did you check the Freon?” He ignored me. And he said, “Your problem is the capacitor.” The air came on because he checked it. And I was in the house when he checked it. But it didn't get any cooler. So, I called back, but nobody answered. I couldn't get the company. I couldn't get either one of these men, because the first one was not the one that came. And I couldn't even get anybody to answer these numbers.

    So, after three days, I finally called my son. I said, “I'm gonna have to have a little help from somebody. I know it's gonna blow the contract if I get somebody else out there to fix it.” And he said, “Let me see what I can do, mom.” So, he found some Freon. He had a buddy that used to work with him when he was in the air conditioning business that had some Freon. And we put the Freon in there. I've not had a problem since.

    I was very disappointed because I could not get anybody to answer me. They did not address my question. The tech ignored me, “You don't know what you're talking about.” And I didn't get to be 84 by being stupid and owning my own home by myself. Oftentimes, when you go into a business, people don't think you know one thing and they’d treat you as such. That makes me so mad. I'm not a very mechanical person. But when you've had this problem for several years, you know what it’s going to act like. And he may not have had any Freon, but he could have told me that. I've had them out for many problems, and I've never had a problem with them except this. I've had that American Home Shield contract for many years.

    A home warranty is a practical thing to have when you've got tenants living in the house and if there's anything that goes wrong. We had a peculiar situation on the first floor where the AC is and water started to come down. The techs got there quickly and the tech was knowledgeable. He was able to identify that it was the line that was blocked. He gave us the correct diagnosis which is to get a plumber to get that line checked.

    We had a plumber who ensured that the line was unblocked. Then, the AC guy went back to check to see that everything was okay. That helped build confidence and gave me the feeling that they were being thorough about what they were supposed to do.

    We had the refrigerator go out. We had to have a new compressor put on the refrigerator. It took about two weeks for them to get around to fixing it. We were living out of a cooler in the meantime. American Home Shield did not get back with the service provider to give them authorization to go ahead and buy the compressor. So we had to call American Home Shield and remind them that we were sitting over here waiting. But everything's good. We've had American Home Shield for 20 years and we've been happy with it the whole time.

    AHS is convenient. If something goes wrong, just call up and, within a day or two, somebody's out. The only thing is sometimes when I talk to somebody, I know they're from another country and sometimes the communication is not that well. For my recent claim, the air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air. The tech put a part in there. It worked for a couple of days but then it shorted out. The guy came back out again. He said it was tripping. Another electrical company came out and he checked my electrical box downstairs and said, "Electric's fine." But it's working now.

    The first time the guy from Pride Mechanical came out, it was almost 9 o’clock at night. He ended up changing the valve that goes with the water heater, because he said that was what was leaking. A week and a half later, it started leaking again. When Pride Mechanical came out, it was nighttime again. I’m single, so it made me nervous. The guy said, “You need a new water heater.” He went into how much money it was gonna cost me, and I said, “Okay, that’s a lot.” He said he was gonna send us to the company. He talked about all these modifications that I would need to have, so I said, “Okay, I need time to make a decision,” but the next day, they were already calling. “You need to make a decision right now.”

    It was constant calling, and I was being seriously pressured to make a quick decision, when I have a home warranty who’s supposed to do this for me. It didn’t seem like Pride Mechanical was going through the company. They were coming directly to me. “You’re gonna have to pay $900 out of pocket, you’re gonna have to pay this.” At that point, I was already stressed out because the water was leaking through the ceiling. Also, with the guy's tone of voice and because it was at night, I told the American Home Shield rep, “I’m sorry, I’m afraid. I don’t want this guy to come back to my home. And I don't like the way he's talking to me. I've seen other complaints, but this is too much for a single woman with two kids. No, he can't come back.”

    I didn't know I was supposed to shut off the water to the water heater, and the guy from Pride Mechanical didn’t even offer to shut it off. The way the pipes are, the water leaked downstairs, but because he didn’t shut off the water, it leaked more. I expected a repairman to know what’s supposed to be done. So, that was on me, and I had to call somebody. I have a friend who knows someone who works on water heaters. Also, when moving in, I met some plumbers. So, they directed me to someone else, and I ended up paying out of pocket. I also had a ceiling patched, which I had to pay for.

    When I called American Home Shield, the girl who helped me from the reimbursement department went above and beyond. She really helped to calm me down and get the situation resolved. They reimbursed me some of the money for the water heater, but they said they couldn't reimburse me for the ceiling patch. Recently, I just had issues with the AC, and the people that American Home Shield sent out for that can come again because they were awesome. I thought the AC was leaking, but the tech said it was just the condensation.

    The techs came a total of six times. The first guy who came told us that the issue wasn't the AC but the electricity. So, we put in a claim for electricity not knowing we could have just sent it back to them. An electrician confirmed that the issue was the AC. The AC techs came back and the second time, it was someone more experienced. He recognized what the problem was right away and put in an order to change one of the parts. But that took another seven business days to get ordered.

    By that point, it had been three weeks that we had been without AC. When the techs replaced the part, the AC worked for two days then broke down again. The techs came back and determined that the issue was for a different part and they put an order for that one in. Seven business days later, that part came in. So, it took almost two months to get our AC fixed. It was the hottest two months of the summer. I asked that if the AC breaks again, AHS uses a different company.

    But the first claim for the dishwasher went much better. They just gave us a stipend to replace it. I like AHS's customer service which I'm pretty surprised about. The last warranty company I had did well as long as it wasn't a replacement. Whenever a replacement is recommended AHS, is right on top of things. I got an email with a credit and I can go to the store and replace my appliance. When something goes wrong, customer service is responsive. When I complained and told them, "Hey, I paid twice for this claim for the AC." they're like, "Oh, that shouldn't have happened, sorry. We'll refund the second $75." That was nice.

    I have two houses and an apartment building with American Home Shield. I've been with them for two years. When I first got with them, it was fine. I've noticed that the service nowadays is very bad. You have to wait too long for someone to come out and fix your problem. I noticed that the people that you speak to on the phone, we can't understand them. They don't speak good English. I've also noticed that the prices have gone up. Also, when you find a company that they send to you that you feel comfortable and safe with and dependable with and they know their job, AHS gives you a hard time asking for the same company again.

    I had a furnace problem. It took me almost a month to fix the house during the winter month and it was freezing in this house. I had to go out and buy wood. I had to go out and buy heaters. My PG&E bill went up. Then, they wanted me to spend lots of money. That was a bad problem I had last year with AHS. Recently in one of my homes, I wanted my washing machine and dryer to be serviced because it hadn't been serviced and the heater vent, the long silver tube that goes from the dryer to the outside, had come loose. I needed that put back together. The tech did that, but then he also caused a leak from the valve. I had to turn around and spend another service fee for the plumber to come out. AHS holds you hostage because they're the only game in town. But, they don't treat their customers as fair as they should.

    Up until recently, you have to be on hold for 45 minutes to an hour to speak to someone. But things have changed at American Home Shield. Recently, I was only on hold for five minutes. So, I was super happy. The contractor for my dishwasher was really good. They found the issue was a faulty ground. They fixed the ground wire and everything works fine.

    American Home Shield sent Rockland Plumbing out for a drainage problem. We discovered that the plumber didn't put the washer on the joint between the drain and the elbow. It was leaking from there. I thought that was the only leak. That was why I called back and wanted them to send someone else out. American Home Shield wanted to send Rockland back out but I told them no and that the guy was rude. I was asking him questions about this thing he was bringing up my stairs to rod out my pipe. He said, “Who's the plumber? I'm the plumber."

    Rockland Plumbing is a terrible company. They don't have one nice review and most of the customers are complaining of the same issue. Once you complained of a mistake that they did, they wouldn't answer the phone. I escalated it to someone else at American Home Shield but they don't seem to care. They're gonna continue to use this company that has these terrible reviews. Rockland Plumbing ghosts people too. He charged for three hours of work but wasn't here an hour.

    Another company came, Water Control Plumbing, and they are excellent. They came the next day. The plumber said, “There's no washer in here.” That was screwed back on then he did the water test. As he was upstairs, I see water coming out of the light fixture, coming down the cabinets, going all of my dishes, the countertop, and the floor like it was raining in my kitchen to the point where I had to call my homeowners insurance. They ripped out my ceiling in the kitchen and the floor in the bathroom above the kitchen. This happened early August and I'm still without a ceiling and lights in my kitchen, and my bathroom floor is still gone ‘cause I gotta get contractors in here to redo my bath and my kitchen. The insurance company has decided to go after Rockland Plumbing for the damages to my kitchen but they wouldn't answer our phone calls.

    A&M came out and repaired a leaking water pipe. There wasn’t anything prior to that that would have indicated there was a problem. It was a slow leak. There were some watermarks on the ceiling. So, I went up there and saw the leak, and turned the water off. I filed the claim to American Home Shield and then they came out the same day. Everything’s fixed no. There are no leaks now. Everything has gone well with AHS so far. I had a couple of things this year that were fixed within a few days.

    Our first floor AC unit wasn't turning on. I call American Home Shield to put a claim in but I’d be on hold for a while. My wife decided to try it online and it went quickly. I got a text message from the company saying that they had received a request from American Home Shield. It had their contact number if we had questions. They were there the next day to fix it. The repairman was outside checking the unit to make sure it was coming on. After doing some troubleshooting, it looked like it was the thermostat that was no longer functioning. They replaced the thermostat for us and it's been working great. The experience was very fast.     All of a sudden my thermostats went blank and the AC was not working. AHS assigned All Pro Services. The tech went to the attic and told me that the drain was clogged. He cleaned the drain and there was a lot of water in the pan. He emptied that water and he said that would solve the problem. He said that because of that water, the system would shut off. But on Saturday, the exact same thing happened.

    My husband went to the attic and saw that the pan was full of water again. As soon as he emptied the pan, the system started working again. I let AHS know that the problem was still there and the tech from All Pro came back. He said the problem is not a clogged drain but a leak somewhere and that's why the pan is filling up with water again. He had to talk to AHS to see if they were going to accept the replacement of something.

    I called some people from septic repairs when I had an issue and the tech said the pump was not working. He changed the pump and it was 6,300-something for the pump and the labor. He said that I might be able to call AHS and they can pay me after the work has been done because they work with AHS and I can give them the invoice. So, I called and the guy who answered said there's no way American Home Shield pays after something has been fixed without filing a claim with them before. So I had to pay the 6,350. But I understand that they have their policy and I had no clue what was going on. Otherwise, I would have filed a claim. The thing is, sometimes, it's hard to explain to the people that answer the phone what's going on if you don't really know what the problem is. But other than that, I've had a good experience. AHS has worked so far.

    My dryer stopped working. The heating coil got really, really bright red, and then it shut down. I went online to American Home Shield to put in a claim and then they assigned it to a contractor. I contacted the contractor twice. But they never called me back. So American Home Shield reassigned it to Hi-Tech and they were great. They contacted me. I gave them the model and serial number of my dryer. Then they came and they had the parts with them. They replaced the heating coil and the sensor. They were done in about 30 minutes.     I had commode issues. There were some problems with staining and if you flush, it would not drain fast. Getting through to AHS was difficult. It's very difficult to talk to someone. But when I finally got someone, it was very good. The rep was so professional. When the plumber came the first time, he put some acid inside and everything became alright. But after he left, it started leaking around the commode. So I called him back. He pulled it out, replaced the wax and sealed it. Then he told me not to use it for two days.

    Hospitality Heating and Air Conditioning came out promptly and fixed the AC. Every time we call the AC people or someone with the dishwasher or my refrigerator, we get prompt service. However, whatever small appliance tech American Home Shield has, the service is awful. It takes five or six days to get in touch with them. My washing machine was out of commission for three weeks before we could get someone out here. It's terrible. But American Home Shield called somebody else who called promptly. I didn't have to run him down. He made the appointment, came out and refixed the washing machine. I want him every time when something happens to my smaller appliances. I would recommend them American Home Shield but they need to get rid of AA Appliance and the second one that services the Monroe area.

    The first time they got here, Sears just checked the refrigerator and told me the parts we were gonna need and they called American Home Shield up. They explained to AHS what they were gonna need to fix the problem. They placed the order for the part, and on the next one, they just installed it. They explained to me well. That is the third time they replaced the same thing. They were friendly and good. Overall, my experience with AHS has been okay but sometimes, they're taking forever to get the parts, and the technicians, all the time, give you the appointment like three weeks after they just came to check the unit. So, it takes like a month at least to fix it. That's way too much, but here's nothing we can do about it.

    Sometimes the service is good, but sometimes it's not. A lot of the contractors in this area will not service manufactured homes, no matter if they are real property. We've had several contractors come out from American Home Shield and they won't service it. Eventually, we have to end up calling somebody ourselves. The problem we've had lately has been with a sewer line. It needed to be Roto-Rootered out. But American Home Shield assigned people that didn't show up, or if they did show up, but they didn't do it. So we ended up calling somebody ourselves, and they did it for $45. Now, why would I ever contact American Home Shield for my sewer if that company only charges the $45, and American Home Shield charges $75 for the same service?

    I submit claims to AHS on the phone and the hold time can be lengthy. But they make the work order when I'm on the phone with them and they give me the name and phone number of the contractor. For my most recent claim, McDonald Electrical came out and I’ve never had any better service. But I had a slight issue with AHS and I made one call and got a supervisor. He went above and beyond to make it right. This last year, I’ve had a couple of different issues and I’m not happy with that. They have righted it but I had to fight tooth and nail to make them do it.

    My dishwasher has been giving me problems for more than a year now. So, I made a claim last year, the contractor came three times to fix it, it worked. But every time, it worked only for one day, and went bad again. Finally, it worked for a couple of months, and it would go bad again. It doesn't come out. So, I made another claim. This company came one time and fixed it. After two weeks, it went bad again. The dishwasher is old and not fixable. So, they said it needs to be replaced. It kept doing the same issue every time. So, I went with the option he said because the one I wanted to buy, exactly the same I have, is out of stock and said it would be a long wait. So, they offered me a check to buy from Lowe's. I should have it in three days. I did this last Friday. Hopefully, I will get the check tomorrow, and I will go and buy from Lowe's.

    I have the warranty for major stuff like AC or heater, or stuff like this. But it's good also to have if you have one of the appliances go bad. It helps. But being that the deductible is $100, sometimes it's more expensive than having one of the technical guys to come and fix the issue for small appliances, like if you have something in the fridge or stuff like this.

    Little by little, the garbage disposal was starting to make noises. Eventually, with the overflow from the dishwasher that's up there on the sink, water started coming out of that. Submitting the claim went pretty smoothly. I called American Home Shield, talked to someone, and they took the information, and then they notified me about the plumbing outfit that was going to be coming out.

    The tech replaced my garbage disposal because he said the thing was broken, but the water coming out of my dishwasher is still coming out. The young man said, "That should be fine now." I've called three times and I have yet to hear anything back from the contractor. As far as AHS, the few times I've called, they've been good to me and everything was taken care of. They did a nice job. So far, my experiences have been wonderful except this time because I got to use the dishwasher occasionally and water was coming out Sunday. It wasn't that much, but it was still coming out and going onto the sink. I called the plumbing company and the owner that answers the phone hasn't returned my call.

    A pipe that supplies water to a bathroom and two sinks came unglued from a valve. I had to have a plumber out that evening because I had to shut the water to my house off. The claims process needs some improvement. You can't tell AHS that you have an emergency that needs to be taken care of. They don't call to ask what the problem is. Luckily, I know the plumber and I have his number. He was able to come out later that evening instead of going home. So he went above and beyond.

    The plumber had to dig up the hole a bit more because there was water spraying everywhere. He had to take the part that had come undone from the valve and there was a coupler on the other end. He was able to take that piece out, re-glue it, and waited an hour. We turned the water back and there was no more leak. I've had a great experience with AHS.

    I had bad experiences with American Home Shield in the previous year. We were not satisfied and we were actually going to close our account. In the beginning, a couple of years ago, I was going around in circles because customer service didn't understand. I had to go back to the contractor and then I had to go back to calling American Home Shield, and back and forth. It was ridiculous and a tremendous waste of time. But the people we had spoken with for each of our claims recently were much easier to understand and much easier to communicate with. Technicians came out for our refrigerator, oven, and stovetop. They were excellent. Our refrigerator was not cooling and the tech was very professional.

    I was frustrated when we first got on the home warranty. We had a problem with our sink and the faucet had to be replaced. American Home Shield was gonna replace it with a cheaper one. I told them to replace it with the same quality that I have. We went back and forth. Finally, one of the managers had to call me and said they were gonna change it with the same quality merchandise. I shouldn’t have had to fight for that. At that point, I didn’t even trust that American Home Shield was giving me a good washing machine. I waited and did my own research. When I looked up the one that American Home Shield had, they were offering quality machines like the one I have in the house. There has been a tremendous improvement, which is great.

    I've had to use American Home Shield three times here in the last several months. The most recent was just a couple of days ago. I had a repair on a microwave. I've got both my house and a condo that my stepdaughter lives in through American Home Shield. I’ve had no claims with the house. However, in the condo, the microwave backed up. That repair went very well through Sears. Most recently, the electric dryer door switch went out. That repair went well, too. However, my first attempt to get a repair on the air conditioner did not go well. The service was scheduled for the next day. There was a lot of confusion because the contractor couldn't make it on that day, which was a Friday. Even though American Home Shield had it scheduled for within a day or two, he was stating that he would not and could not show up until Wednesday.

    In the meantime, I had called an air conditioning contractor on a recommendation of a friend who said they could send somebody over immediately but it turned out they were not on the American Home Shield approved list. They wanted to waste a lot of my time with my tenant’s discomfort while they shopped and tried to find another contractor who could respond more quickly. I just paid the other guy to come out and repair the system. It turned out it was a bad capacitor but he also had to add Freon, so that cost me several hundred dollars, and I got no relief from American Home Shield. At least, I got the AC working quickly. The guy indicated that the system has a small leak. So, American Home Shield’s gonna be sending somebody out in the near future.

    It's just there's still a problem with the system and that it's gonna leak the Freon out. I don't know how American Home Shield is gonna respond to that. They only pay $30 toward the Freon per service call, which is not nearly gonna cover the cost of the Freon. So, if I do bring American Home Shield back in, I'm expecting the leak to be identified and repaired. The guy that did come out told me it’s so old, and it's not worth trying to find a leak and repair it.

    It might be wasting my time and money with American Home Shield because both of the repairs they have successfully executed cost me $100 each. I'm a retired engineer, and I know machinery, and I've done all my repairs all my life myself. I could have fixed both of those for a $10 switch and about an hour of my time. I used American Home Shield because I've got it. It actually cost me more money, but it saved me the inconvenience of having to bring my tools over to the condo and pull everything apart and go through a learning curve that the technician probably has done the same repair a dozen times at least in his career.

    My biggest concern now is what American Home Shield might feel their obligation is with regard to a leak in the system. If I've gotta keep on paying for Freon because all they're gonna do is send a guy out to charge it, I'm wasting my time and money with American Home Shield. Overall, they met their contractual obligations with two out of three claims.

    My ice maker wasn't producing any ice at all. Vladimir, the tech, fixed it then it was making too much ice. So he came back, changed out the board and it was completely fixed. I also had an issue with a washer that was shaking and shaking. It was walking all over the place and almost coming out of the laundry room. The tech replaced a bunch of parts but it still wasn't fixed. He came three times and the last time he came, he replaced four sticks that had springs in them. When he replaced those four parts, it was completely fixed

    I like the response time of AHS. When the techs come, they don't try to okey dokey. They're straight and honest with me. I've had a good experience with the people they've sent so far. Everyone has been really honest and fair. They don't look to deny a claim and they try to help you. If it’s something that you really need, they’ll tell you, "Let me give you this right here. We can give you a little something that’s a bit better.” If you want to pay the extra money for more, you can do the repair, do a better nozzle or sink they will give you an option and I like that part. It’s not expensive to do anything different from what they actually do, but it makes sense sometimes. Just pay the money and get it done right.

    Recently, our AC was not cooling properly. The technician is really good. He's young but very knowledgeable and professional. He walked me through everything and explained everything to me.

    I've almost been disgusted with AHS for several reasons. My air conditioning system went out both upstairs and downstairs. It was in the 100 degrees. AHS got a contractor and it took them 20-some days to fix my air conditioning system. I had to buy four fans to sleep. The people that I call to make the appointments, say, "The tech said he did this. He said he's gonna do this." I called and the rep said, "Well, you just have to wait. It's a process." The tech had told AHS that he talked with me on the Fourth of July and he lied. He never called me then.

    I talked to six different associates and tried to get at least three of them to get me a manager. They said, "We're not authorized to do it. We have to put in for that and they will call you when they get a chance within 24 hours." The managers haven't called me yet. I tried to get a corporate number and every time I called, I get one of those associates again. I can't understand the associates most of the time. They have an accent and it sounds like they're in India somewhere. I wanted to just cancel the contract.

    I have a claim for a faucet that hasn't been fixed yet. It has been repaired three different times and every time the tech repairs, they put gaskets in and they leave. A month later, when I turn it on, water squirts out again. Behind the wall tile, there's mold. That's how long it's been leaking. The tech who came the other day knew exactly what he was doing. He took pictures of it and said, "Wow, you need another faucet on this. This thing is messed up."

    AHS is rejecting the faucet claim. The plumbing company came out the other day and the tech is supposed to get in touch with Home Shield to let them know that that faucet needs replacing. If they don't replace it, I'm going to cancel the contract. I'm just sick of it. I'm tired.

    My AC wasn't working, and when the first guy came out, he didn't do anything. ‘Cause I told him everything that I did. I troubleshot it. He said, “Oh, okay,” then he went back in his truck and reported what I told him. Based upon that, American Home Shield said, “Oh, this is a pre-existing condition.” When they brought the second guy out, they just used that statement from the first guy to avoid having to address the situation. It wasn't a pre-existing condition because it was working fine, and then it wasn't working. American Home Shield won't be able to help with the situation, so I have to fix it myself, and I just don't feel like it. I'm at the point now where I'm getting ready to get rid of them and go with somebody else.

    The air conditioner wouldn’t get cold. I called American Home Shield and they said they were gonna send somebody out, and they did. When the guy got here, I told him what the thing is. So, he troubleshot a couple of things. Then he said, “Well, there’s one more thing. I’m gonna go up to the attic.” He went up to the attic and what was going on with it was something was frozen up there. So, he did his thing and then, it was A-okay. He was excellent.     I've dealt with American Home Shield a couple of times on some different issues over the years. They do what they say they'll do. They cover what they claim to cover. So far, everything that we've done through them has gone pretty well. All of the vendors had been professional and done what was asked. There were people I wouldn't mind using again if I had to though. There was an issue last year when I had a fan motor issue on an AC unit. The only problem there was getting the parts. That one took a long time. But that wasn't their fault. There was an aluminum shortage at the time. Recently, a contractor came in, looked at my plumbing issue and fixed it. The guy they sent was top-notch. They worked well with me. I needed to get somebody here as soon as possible to get it fixed. They were fast about it and replaced the part that broke.

    There were things American Home Shield said were not covered because they were not an appliance issue, but that was clear, too. It was not like they were trying to hoodwink me and say they wouldn't cover that. When you sign up, you choose what you want based off how you want to pay. I keep a higher deductible because if it's something small, I'm just going to pay for it anyway. But if you have one major issue, it can be fairly expensive - $1,500. The plan can pay for itself in a year.

    The first repair was a dishwasher and the first dispatch that AHS put out couldn't come out for 18 days. I called AHS back and they scheduled A&E. A&E came out in four days. They came with the right parts and took care of it on the spot. The second was a front load washing machine. I opened the ticket online and AHS dispatched North Pole Supply who called me back within two hours. We scheduled a session and they came out. The technician that came out was courteous but he said they were going to need to schedule a different appointment to bring out another technician to move it out of the spot. Also, it looked like he was going on YouTube to try to figure out this particular machine. He looked up the parts and he told me there was wear and tear on the bearings and a part needed to be replaced.

    He said the parts are pretty expensive and American Home Shield may go ahead and decline this repair. If they did, he'd have to come back with another person. I got an email back from American Home Shield for me to call back and I did. They indicated that they were declining the repair and it was because the technician reported that it was broken due to user abuse or user misuse. They told me he said that it's overloaded all the time and that caused premature wear. It's a high-end consumer washing machine and I specifically bought it because it was made for bigger and heavier duty loads. I was a little irritated at the reason for the decline.

    I asked to escalate it within American Home Shield and they did inform me that they were willing to do that. They would send out a second repair company and if the repair company report agreed with the first one, then I would go ahead and pay for that second visit, which I thought was perfectly fine. But if the second company didn't agree, they would just proceed with the repair. The second tech came out and it was very good service. It turned out that the drum's bolts were loose. He secured them back in place, tested it, and it's been quiet ever since. AHS really should just check with the contractors. When I do my next repair, I will follow up with a call asking if they could assign A&E because whenever they've come out, it's one stop fast and done.

    I like my service with American Home Shield. I have it on two of my properties. However, I had to do a recall on one of my service orders because my issue wasn't resolved. But the second plumber that was issued to the service took care of it. AHS lowers the potential cost for labor. Any place you go to get work, you have to pay labor costs plus the materials. So, when an issue arises, you submit it through AHS and you just pay your one-time thing. So, that beats having someone come out to look at your problem, and then them saying they can't fix it, and then you have to call someone else and spend hundreds of dollars.

    I got very frustrated with American Home Shield because nothing was covered. In my opinion, what's the point of the insurance if my claim is not covered? The service company made two recommendations. They were very straightforward and honest and they did a thorough check. The first recommendation was that the AC unit was too small and that it needed a unit that could properly cool the house. Then the second one was if that is not possible, the compressor was going bad and it needed to be replaced. American Home Shield said that they weren't covering any of it. They said no to the upgrade and then also no to replacing the compressor. It wasn't even to upgrade the compressor. It was just to replace the compressor with the same size that already exists.

    The gas stove was making this clicking sound. So I turned off the breaker for the oven, stove and microwave. When the contractor came by, they told me the problem with the stove and what needed to be changed. The tech was able to diagnose the issue very fast. He didn't have to sit there and guess. He was pretty sure what it was and quick to let me know. I asked him how were we going to cook if I had the breaker turned off. He showed me that I could just turn the thing on low and use a lighter because it is gas. So that was very helpful.

    For the most part, the contractor came by quick, and they communicated what was the issue and when they'd come back. It all happened in a timely manner, so I was very impressed with how the whole thing kind of went through.     The AC and dryer had issues. Lately, the water heater. The techs were fine but the contractor is basically saying it's going to be $700 to reconnect the new water heater once I get it, that it has to be separate work because the pipes leaks. One is an evaporation pipe and one is a water pipe. But I saw them disconnect it. And I asked them if anything was wrong with the pipe. They said the pipes were fine. When I got the bill, they said that the warranty company would replace the water heater, but it's going to be $695 to connect it. American Home Shield is needed for the life of the house but I would like to see a price not being high like the mortgage.

    The AC, all of a sudden, wouldn't turn off. It got really cold in the house. Two days later, it completely just shut down and there was no air. I put in a request with AHS. We got somebody to come out and see exactly what was going on. After the next day, when he tried to turn it on, it didn't get cold, but then it didn't get cool and it was hot. They realized that it was something doing with the circuit board and with the thermostat. It was a two-process part. It took a week before they were able to start fixing it. They were great and very informative. Customer service-wise, they did their job. The air is working great now.

    The plumbers came out for the water heater and they said that they found a problem. There was a part which had to be replaced and I called Sears directly to ask them how much the part was. American Home Shield said the part was not covered under warranty, so I paid $1,500 out of my pocket. I paid for the warranty but nothing was covered.     I like American Home Shield's service. They've been responsive. But I have a small complaint with the vendors that they use. My toilet's little flap wouldn't go down. It was hard for me to get appointment times and they only wanted me to fit into their appointment time. When the tech came, the initial problem was so slight that he fixed it without tools. But it took a week to get him there and the issue caused a lot of damage because of the water.

    The problem was not relieved more than 10 minutes after the tech left. But he had requested a new toilet for me for some time and it took a long time to get the toilet. Other than that, AHS is a good company to deal with.

    My washer decided to stop agitating. And it wasn't filling the wash drum with the appropriate amount of water. So, I called American Home Shield and filed the claim. They sent out Hornet Appliance, and they are a total joke. I'll just tell you that right now. This was back in first part of August. They came out. They looked at it. They went back. They ordered some parts. A guy came back with the parts 12 days later, and put the parts in. He sat there and watched it try to work. He said, “The only other thing I can tell you is it’s probably the control board.”

    This was on a Sunday because their truck broke down Saturday when they were supposed to come out. So he said, “I'll get it on order Monday when I get back to the office.” So, Monday rolled past. Tuesday, I called just to say, “Hey, guys. What's going on? What's the update? Did we get parts on order? What's the status?” “We're working with Techline. And I was, “All right, I'll call you back before the end of the day.” I never heard anything back from him.

    I called them Wednesday. “Hey, guys. I was supposed to receive a call back yesterday. Never got it. So kind of want to see where we're at with this.” “Techline said that that's normal.” I said, “It's not normal, man. You can't tell me that the fact that I got a water hose hooked up to my washing machine just so I have enough water to wash my clothes is normal. This washing machine is maybe 16 months old.” They said, “We'll call you back again before the end of the day. We'll let you know what's going on.” Never heard back from them. I called all day on Thursday. Never got through. Wednesday, I called AHS. They said that would call Hornet and find out what the situation was. Because they told me, “If we don't hear back from them, then we'll just have to probably start over.” I said, “All right.”

    Called Thursday. Never could get ahold of them. So, I called AHS back and they said, “The only thing we could do is close this out and redo the whole thing.” Come to find out, Hornet already closed out the ticket. So they said it was completed, even though their tech said I need a new control board before he left here. They said, “It’s completed. We're done.” So, had to start a whole new thing over again. They sent one guy out. He came out, he didn't touch my washing machine. All he did was, “Well, what's going on with it?” I told him. He said, “You’ll probably gonna need a control board. But I'm not 100% sure. I'm probably going to have to get a more senior tech out here.” I said that was the fifth time they said they would do that.

    He said he was not aware of that. and he was sorry. So, a week later, they send out a master service tech. He came out and told my son, “Yeah, man, control board and something else. That's what you gotta have. Problem is, I don't know if we can get you the control board.” That was a week and a half ago, and here we still are, and my unit still isn't fixed. And I’ve been without a washing machine for over a month. So, I told AHS that if they ever send Hornet back to my house for any repairs whatsoever, I will cancel my contract with them. But I've had a great relationship with them. It's not their fault. It’s their contractors. So, they need to do a more diligent vetting process when it comes to some of their contractors, especially Hornet. I'm moving into a brand new house. It has a three-year warranty, and I'm still keeping my warranty with AHS.

    This is my third account with American Home Shield and overall, they're fine. They're responsive. The technicians they use are good. I would recommend them to anybody. I've had the water heater go and it was 75 bucks. I've had outlets blow out and it was $75. So, it's like car insurance. You don't realize you need it until you need it. I've been very happy with everything.

    I had a plumbing claim and Leak Seekers came out. I had a blockage in a sewer line. They responded within 20 minutes, and they were out. I've had them come out twice for a blockage. The first time, they were out the same day. The second time, because I called them late, they were out at 8:00 the next morning. I've worked with both a tech and the owner of Leak Seekers and I would recommend them to anybody. They're fantastic. The owner climbed on my roof to get to a vent to determine whether or not he could get this blockage out.

    I called American Home Shield for my cooktop which wasn’t working. It wasn’t that bad getting through. Sometimes, it was hard to get someone on the phone. This time, it wasn’t hard getting anyone. I received a message that the claim had been assigned to the contractor with their phone number. The person who came was a very nice contractor. He told me the cooktop was unrepairable, and that he was gonna submit a thing to receive a new cooktop. American Home Shield is a great place. They do have great service and if there are issues, they will get to the bottom of it.

    The people who are calling me don't speak very good English. Most of the communication from them, I can barely understand. Not to mention, they don't cover anything. So, nothing that I needed to be done is covered as a part of my AHS policy. Mine was heating and air conditioning issues. Although they sent out a couple of people, nothing was covered. There were some parts that were needed. Apparently, the unit is just archaic. Some of the parts are obsolete. The furnace needs replacing. It's still leaking water. Has done some water damage to the stuff that's in the garage and they don't cover water damage, either. I wouldn't buy a policy from AHS for one of my other properties. I'd rather use the money to repair whatever needed to be repaired or replaced.

    There was a slight leak from the pipes connecting the outside of water main pipe into the water meter. I called WSSC because I figured it had something to do with the water meter. They came in and told me it was my responsibility because it had nothing to do with the water meter. The connecting pipe is about 12 inches away from the water meter. I put a claim in and American Home Shield arranged for an appointment for me. I was going to have a contractor come in. But the leak had stopped so I canceled. I asked for the refund of the $100 back, and I got it after a few weeks.

    About three weeks ago or so, I noticed the leak started again. This leak was worse than the first one. I'd capture that passing water and empty it every four hours. It was quite full. I called American Home Shield and they arranged for United Air Temp to come around. American Home Shield was good about arranging the second appointment. The plumber who came, Antoine, was very professional. When he first came around, he needed to stop the water supply coming into the house. But he couldn't find the outside water main that brings in the water from behind the street into the house. He arranged for somebody from WSSC to come, locate it and mark it. Then I called him to say that the marking was done. He came back and did a very good job. He made a suggestion of an upgrade, replacing an old-fashioned valve that you turn around. He said it would be a better thing to have a lever. I agreed for an out of pocket upgrade for about 180 bucks. I can't be happier.

    The garbage disposal at my rental was defective. There was also a problem in the bathroom with the faucet. The techs fixed everything. It was a great experience. Sometimes AHS gets on my nerves. I have five properties with them and I should be more entitled to better discounts. But their competition isn't up to par and that's why I stay with them.

    AHS is good but I don't agree with what they charge. Last year, I called them when my garage door opener broke. The techs came and said a part isn't covered. It cost me an additional $185 that I had to actually pay the vendor on the spot to fix the garage door. In the big print, it shows that the garage door and all these parts are covered. But in the fine print, it says, "Oh, this is not covered.”

    My experience with American Home Shield has been hit-or-miss. I've had some really great contractors and some really awful ones. I've had contractors that didn't call me and then I've had to call several times and leave messages. About three weeks later, they showed up, and I was like, “Yeah. No.” I've had to ask for things to be re-associated. One thing that really upset me had to do with my AC. I had somebody come out, and they did not do anything that they said on their paperwork. They signed my name on it. I was like, “What is this? I didn't sign it.” They forged my name and then, they were like, “We wanna come back out.” I was like, “No. Because if you're willing to do this, then who knows what else?” I don't want the company.

    I had to fight with AHS to reassign a new company to come out. They were running a special, $75 to have someone come out and look at your AC for the summer. I was like, “Hey, this is a great idea. Let's do this, just have them come, take a look at it.” They didn't do anything that they said they did. They were like, “Well, it's closed.” I went around for about six weeks trying to get them to send somebody else. They finally did, and they charged me twice. That got resolved, but I had to go to my credit card company and ask them to get into it. So, it's been a love-hate relationship. The chances of me renewing after the year are slim.

    AH Appliance also came out, and he just looked at the appliance and said, “Oh, yeah. Just do this and it'll be fine.” Then I had someone else come out. He did replace the one piece because it wasn't opening up and allowing the soap. That works great, but I'm still having issues overall with it. Maybe I just need to replace it at this point. I'm not even gonna bother with having AHS come out and take a look at it.

    Overall, some of the stuff that AHS has done has been stellar. Other times, it was like, “Just leave. I don't wanna deal with it.” I had problems with some of the toilets and the guys came out and took care of it the first time. But then with the AC, I had it replaced. When they took it apart, it was horrific inside. Yet everyone was like, “Oh, it's fine.” I actually had a leak. That's why I was having problems with it keeping cool, and it was eroding from the inside. None of the contractors that came out found that because they didn't look.

    I like that AHS is convenient. They respond quickly. But what I don't like is they have the worst people on their list. Also, in order to get a second opinion, we have to pay the deductible twice. But outside of that, it's okay. With my plumbing issue, I had five different plumbers come out, but still never fixed the problem. It was a temporary fix like they rigged it, and it still was never actually fixed. They couldn't tell me. For my recent appliance repair, the first guy that came out called and said, "I can't come until whatever day it was." I said, "We're leaving out of town that day." He said, "Oh, well, then you need to call me when you get back. I don't know if I have anything available." I said, "Okay."

    He called back and it was like he was trying to get me to do something outside of American Home Shield. I ended up looking him up and he had horrible reviews. So I didn't call them. I would rather work with somebody else. I told AHS and then they sent me this guy. He was good. He was professional and prompt. He came in, knew what he was doing, and he fixed the problem.

    We decided to get American Home Shield because we got our house last March. It was built in 1960 so we weren't really sure what we would find.     The first time the AC unit had an issue, it was a condenser. It was an easy fix. The second time, it was a motor. It was not so easy. We were without air for seven days. I had bronchitis. It was awful for the five of us. We went ahead and took some money, went down to Lowe’s and got a portable AC unit to try and save our lives. As soon as I told the rep I had an illness when I filed the claim, she said, “I’ll get on this right away, ma’am.” The person I talked to, both times, was good.

    I talked to them again because I was wondering if they heard anything. I was waiting to hear from the technician. They were the ones that told me, “They have your docket. They have your paperwork.” They could have let me know sooner that it was in the works, but they didn’t. The rep told me they did not have a technician for air conditioning in this area of Corpus Christi that we live in. The scheduling upset me because we were on the docket from day one. They didn't hurry it up to try and get the motor in when they found out it was in. But I’ll still give kudos to them because they had to go up in that 200-degree attic to put it in, and they did it as fast as they could.

    The igniter on the stove had been going on and off for a little while, but then it finally stopped lighting. So, when I put the claim in to American Home Shield, it was about a week in that status. So, Sears did come out and fix the problem. The tech was on time. We were scheduled for one time and he had an opening, so he asked if he could come out earlier, which was good for me because I freed up my day. So, he came out, diagnosed the problem, and took care of it, and he was professional and courteous. The stove is working fine now.

    I do need to follow up for American Home Shield. After I put in the stove, I put in another claim for a ceiling fan and a light being out. That was a no show. That was the second one for the second technician not showing. I called the number they gave. The person identified himself as a first name and never did indicate a firm or a contractor entity. I just haven't gotten around to calling American Home Shield back on that and I'm quite sure they billed that call to my credit card. I need to tell them that person did not show and they need to assign another contractor.

    I took out the service probably in the '90s, and the reason I took it out was that they guarantee to either repair or replace. It eliminated the hassle of trying to search around for a reputable repair person or a contractor. Everything I've called them about over the years as far as the refrigerator, washer, dryer or plumbing has been addressed and corrected. I would recommend AHS if you're not handy yourself. I went to a vocational school and I took shop and so forth like that, but I'm not handy at fixing stuff. It's a good service.

    I have had American Home Shield for three years and last year, I was able to get a rebate on the renewal, which was nice. The AC went out earlier this summer and that took a while because there weren't many contractors in the area or they were booked. I called and tried to follow up on it. But AHS was strict about sticking with one contractor and waiting so many days for it to be resolved, which was fine. But they should make some exemptions for certain states like Arizona and Phoenix because it's super-hot over here. No AC is not fun. But besides that, I haven't had any bad experiences. The fixes have been great. They say what they say and do what they do. You read the coverage and you see what's covered by your plan. Literally, it’s a $75 deductible. Even though I was without AC for weeks, the fix would have been six grand so AHS saves me in the long run. It has worked out and has paid for itself.

    Having a home warranty takes the stress out of knowing when something goes wrong with a high-cost unit. My hot water went out, and American Home Shield replaced that. I had to pay an extra $500, but at least I didn't have to pay $1,000. My HVAC unit also went out, and they didn't replace it. I got it replaced on my own, because they said that they would only give me $500 for a new one. I normally submit claims online. Sometimes it's difficult to understand when I call in depending on who answers. It would be helpful if the language barrier wasn't so thick. I've called several times, and it's always better to just try to cut out that end of it.

    American Home Shield has the best coverage. I reached out to them when my thermostat went out. I filed the claim on a Thursday, but the tech didn't come out until Tuesday because of the weekend. He said the condensate pipe had become loose. He temporarily fixed it but said that I should have the heating company who put it the AC unit come out and make sure it's glued properly. By time he left, it was working. I called the people who put in the AC unit. They came out and fixed the issue.

    Sometimes, the wait is a bit, which I understand, especially with trying to order parts. But American Home Shield has always sent out techs and got whatever fixed. It has always been the same person. So, I've had you guys have to come out here since I bought the home, for the microwave, the fridge, and the washer and dryer. They've all been pretty good, except for the microwave. It doesn't line up all the way, so I'm afraid it might fall out. Because it’s one of the built-in ones. But every time they have come out, they have always fixed the issue. Recently, the heating element was going out in the dryer. And the tech had to replace something to do with the water because the water continuously ran. So, it wouldn't wash the load. The water would never stop running.

    My pool filter wasn't filtering. I called American Home Shield and that very night, their contractor Sunbright Pool Services reached out to schedule a time for their technician to come out the next day. The tech determined there was no significant issue. He replaced a couple of rubber O-rings that had degraded due to wear and tear and made a couple of setting adjustments on my pool filter computer system. He was very knowledgeable, personable and he had a lot of good common sense. He advised for basic maintenance and gave me pointers on what things to look for.

    My experience initially with American Home Shield was bad. Some of the contractors with American Home Shield are very good, but some of them are bad. I had a whole bunch of bad ones and I had to ask for second opinion. The first electrician was bad but the second one was good. The first guy who did the plumbing was bad but the second one was very good. The guy who did the garage was superb. But I'm still not happy the way they handled the furnace. The guy didn't bring his tools. He called me saying there was nothing wrong. But he sent a fraudulent report to American Home Shield saying it was a a pre-existing condition. American Home Shield denied the claim.

    I file online and the problem is the online system doesn't have detailed description. I had told them word-by-word and asked them to write down what I reported to them and what needed taken care of. Every time early on, every contractor would complain what the claim was about. There were multiple times a technician was going in there but didn't even know what to check and left. I called American Home Shield again and told them word-by-word, but they said they already had the information I told them. Then the next one would say there was nothing there. The contractor would tell me they didn't have the information. I would ask the contractor to contact me but sometimes the contractor could not contact me. They don't have a business cellphone number. They can't use their personal cellphone number, and they would ask the tenant call me.

    I had a gas leak. The first time I phoned them, it was really difficult to understand the rep. I called back and they got me set up. The first person who was sent to my home told me that I have to buy a gas leak indicator. So, I had to get a second opinion. It was a month and a week that I was without a dryer. They kept in touch. They weren't able to fix the problem right away. But after about a month, everybody figured out what it was and got the proper parts for it. It seems to be working just fine now. The service was great, the analysis was great, and it was determined by all those parties that it wasn't worth repairing. So, AHS arranged a replacement. We've never had a bad experience with AHS in terms of diagnosis or expediting a job.

    I had a leak in the techs from a company found they weren't able to fix it. They said it needed to be completely replaced. AHS's contractor, J&J said they could put some leak stuff in it and that was patched up. But I'm not really happy with Home Shield. The people they sent out barely speak English. Also, they have a lot of hidden fees. I ended up having to still pay a lot to get the contractor to come. If I had just called them straight, I probably would pay less or the same and not have to pay Home Shield anything. They say, "We fix this. We fix that. But you have to pay this fee here and we don't cover this part." There's a lot that they don't pay.

    I had an American Home Shield policy on a rental property in the St. Louis area that I had for about a year. I had a renter that went in there who was like everything was a repair. Everything was an issue. Some of them are just a little stuff and do it yourself. I've since sold that property, so I don't carry the policy there anymore but last year, we also bought a home. It's in good shape, but I felt that given its age, it probably was prudent to get some coverage on it just because you don't know what you have. A lot of the stuff was replaced but there's always a concern that there are perhaps major expenses if something is amiss in the home. So, I went ahead and got a second American Home Shield policy, in addition to the one I've had in Illinois, to my current home. I still maintain that policy.

    There were a lot of plumbing issues. I had to turn the water off. It had a leak down in the basement. Water was coming out fast enough that I was like, “Oh, I need to shut the water off.” I called the warranty company and said, “Hey, I have this happened downstairs.” So, they put me in touch with the company. The company reached out to me and said, “Hey, can you send us a picture, some pictures of what's going on.” I did that. He said, “I know exactly what that is. So, yeah, this is what happens.”

    I called the warranty company and they said, “Well, this is an emergency.” I said, “It's not like the house is flooded. However, I have no water.” It was a little bit of an issue because we couldn't wash, cook, shower, or do anything. They agreed. So, they elevated it. They contacted the company. The company called me right back and said, “Okay, we’ll have somebody out there at 8 o'clock. Could you handle that in the morning?” I said, “Yeah.” He came out. It was maybe half an hour and everything was fixed.

    I had a bunch of claims that I had against American Home Shield. There was one regarding the air conditioner, but there was also one where they left our entire two bathrooms and our hallway. They left all the stuff, toilet bowl, sink, and bathtub. They destroyed our home and we're still having problems. I had to provide proof of fraud from the workers to USAA home insurance.

    The air conditioner wasn't working, and my family and I were left to be all in one area for seven days. No one came out. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield around the same time that the refrigerator broke out. They forgot to get back to me. The tech didn't come back and we were without AC again for a week. I ended up, at the end of the day, being grateful that a guy came. It was seven days. He did what he was supposed to do. It was the scheduling that was the problem. It was a square piece that had to be replaced. He said that if it didn't have any kind of connection or power, then it would just go out. It just needed to be replaced and he did it. The AC is great now but I told AHS the air conditioners keep breaking, and they just keep putting band-aids on it. They're not replacing the air conditioning. They're just replacing the same parts over and over again. I would like AHS to do a better job vetting their contractors, too.

    I used AHS recently. I've had bad vendors but this one was okay. The warranty is good to have whenever you wanna use it. The main issue that I've ever had is when a bad vendor comes out and then American Home Shield won't really listen. Many years ago, I called about air conditioning and the vendor they sent told me that my outside air conditioner was working fine and the issue was the furnace in the attic. They wanted to change out all the furnace equipment there. But it was the outside unit that wasn't coming on.

    I called AHS for a second opinion and I told them the vendor they sent was wrong. They didn't want to listen to me because I'm the homeowner and I'm not the specialist. It was in the summertime, I had an elderly family member, and it was 100 degrees out. I went for months without air conditioning trying to get this rectified when we finally got a reputable vendor out. The outside unit was the problem and he fixed it.

    AHS's people should listen. The bad vendor would have replaced the whole upstairs unit, and it still wouldn't have been working. Which would have been great for me. I would have gotten equipment I didn't need, brand-new. And then, American Home Shield would have still had to fix the outside unit.

    I called American Home Shield one time regarding a plumbing issue and it was resolved within 72 hours. The issue had to do with a pressure valve. The contractor was great. So far, American Home Shield's service has been good. I'm going to call them tomorrow because I'm having a washing machine issue. When the washer spins, it bangs no matter how many clothes are in there. It's been going on now for about a month. American Home Shield really don't wanna have people come out unless something is completely broken or not working.     American Home Shield is pretty responsive but I can't say I'm happy with all their contractors. They're not as prompt or as attentive to the job as I'd like. But for the most part, they're pretty satisfactory. I had my plumbing repaired and it took two weeks for the contractor to respond to my request for patching up the drywall and stuff, which they cut out. In the end, Home Shield had to send another contractor to get the assessment. They took a look at the size of the hole that was made for the repair job and the tech said he only does small patch-up jobs. For a good job to be done on the hole that was made, he said he's going to make some recommendations to Home Shield and they're gonna call me and try to work something out. I was considering renewing my home warranty but I'm still debating. I have to hear back from Home Shield.

    I like that, when you call AHS, they get stuff taken care of. Although, I'm not so happy with the total service because their deductible used to be $50 a while ago. Now, it's 100. In February, I had an issue with my refrigerator. They came and fixed it and, barely a month after that, I had the same problem. I still had to pay the $100 deductible as long as it's past a month. I was not happy about that because it was the same issue. The tech sent couldn't understand English, but it was okay. Recently, The Shining Plumbing did a good job. I had faucets that were leaking. He did both bathrooms and they work fine now.

    My experience with AHS has been good. I am very happy to have the coverage and I was very pleased to know that I only had to use it in a very minor way so far. The thermostat was set at 79 and the house was 81. The tech stuck around long enough to see that it was short cycling. It would come on, but it wouldn't have an impact on the temperature of the house and it was shutting itself down on its own very quickly. As far as professionalism, they were there when they said they were going to be there and they solved the problem. It ended up being nothing of significance and everything was working fine when they left and were on their way.     For a recent claim, At Your Pool Service came out and their tech was very friendly and professional. He tested everything and told me my area might have flooded and tripped the circuit breaker but that the pump was fine. He found a third panel of circuit breakers and flipped the switches around. He said I might have a future problem because it seems to water a lot in that area and anytime that happens, it's gonna trip the circuit breaker out.

    I didn't know that I needed any kind of electrical repair. It wasn't necessarily made known like that. He essentially told me all the information but he wasn't gonna rip it out until he was sure, which I appreciate because then I'm not getting charged extra money. The only confusion that occurred was when the electrical company contacted me and told me they were coming over to my place. I didn't authorize another charge. No one told me they needed to come over here and I was not paying again. They said I gotta talk to American Home Shield because it had already been deducted from my account.

    I was back and forth with the customer care person. She was nice but didn't seem to get the fact that my concern was that I was paying for a service that I did not receive - being charged for the electrical which I did not request. She eventually explained that although I am being charged, the initial charge came from the pool people and they're the ones who initiated the request. The lady reinitiated the work order and the electrical people contacted me and said they were going to come over.

    I went on vacation, my fridge was working fine when I left. When I came back three weeks, I noticed that the fridge was not cooling. I called AHS and the guy came in and he checked whatever and AHS declined it. I don't know what was the issue. It was something that was a previous problem. But that was not. They sent me another person, and then he said that it was something that they'd be able to fix. But then, he came back and he said they didn't make the parts anymore.     Our refrigerator was not cooling. The contractor came out and they looked at the unit. They were gonna put some dye in it and then got back in there and realized that that wasn't going to work at all because it was too messed up. They said the refrigerator was irrepairable. So they said that they would submit that, and then American Home Shield would send us the replacement stuff through the email that we could pick a fridge or whatever it was to replace it if we couldn't find the right fridge. The contractor was super awesome. We love them. American Home Shield has been very responsive anytime we've needed anything. It's been a very simple process. It's what you would want a warranty company to be. It's great customer service, which you don't get these days. So it's very refreshing and nice.

    Updated on 9/15/2022: I am doing another review since we still have not heard from American Home Shield on a decision about our water heater. My first review on here I was asked for my address or account information by AHS. I provided both on here and via email, but no further response. My husband was told on Saturday that it was being sent for higher review like I had been told twice 10 days prior. We were told most reviews are done in 48 hours. It now has been 5 days since the third time we were told it would be reviewed. Yesterday, my husband got transferred to the escalation department and was informed that preexisting meant our water heater was broken before we claimed it.

    Original Review: We have had American Home Shield for over 8 years. We first had them in our rental then our home we purchased in 2019. This year we upgraded our plan to the platinum and when we did we started a new plan. It was much less to start a new plan then to renew. Our old plan ended 8/29/2022 and our new plan started 8/25/2022. Of course our water heater went out on 08/28/2022. We filed our claim and when the plumber came 4 days later we were told we needed a new water heater. We knew that AHS covered this from our plan and email, but then we were told via email from 1st American Plumbing that AHS would not cover since the plan was 3 days old.

    I called twice that day informed that it would be sent for higher review since it was an upgraded plan not really new since we had coverage since owning our home. I called a week later to find out now that they are not covering it due to the rust a preexisting condition. I explained there was no rust that rust is on the old gas line to a previous water heater. They had me talk with the plumber. The plumbing company said no that was not the case that AHS said no due to the new contract. 1st American Plumbing said they would have their plumber call back AHS.

    We waited 2 days then my husband called. He was told it wasn't covered due to preexisting problem. The agent repeated herself 5 times and was not able to clarify especially when my husband read her the contract verbatim that says nothing about preexisting issues. She said a supervisor would call in 1 hour. We called back 24 hours later and told that our case should be covered since we have had coverage since 2019 and it would be sent for higher review. Now again we are waiting with no hot water for 7 people including atheletes in Texas. We even had our hot water brought up to code by Bacon Plumbing when we moved in and had it flushed twice per maintenance recommendations. Help us.

    I made a phone call for a chain on the garage door that was not covered by Home Shield. So, it cost me $450 to repair. When you purchase AHS, it tells you that it covers all these things in your home, but it doesn't go into detail about what they do cover. It was until the person came out that I found out that it did not cover that particular part of the garage. Right now, I have a refrigerator that's going bad, I have to keep plugging it out, and I don't want to call American Home Shield because it says they cover a refrigerator, but I don't know what part of the refrigerator it covers. I'm gonna have to go back through the same thing I went through with the garage door.

    The refrigerator quit making ice and running water into the water dispenser. The contracting company was excellent and the service man was very professional and quick to do what he needed to do. We couldn't do everything because the parts came back within about a week but he did everything to my satisfaction. He was the best service man I've ever had.     Customer service is good as far as them contacting me whenever I have an issue or showing concern. I had my AC worked on and the issue ended up being a compressor. The part took a month to come in. But the response time was pretty good and they kept checking and giving me updates when the part would come in and whether the contractor got with me. I ended up getting a window unit and a fan but those was covered. The only thing I had to pay was for the contractor. It was a smooth process.

    I had a problem with a thermostat that was never operating correctly. I've had it replaced three times with the same kind of round thermostat which was digital. The wiring would not support that. But the repairman was able to install a basic one and make it work. He got out quicker than most contractors. He was out the next day. AHS has been exceptional. Whatever you do, get it.

    The company that American Home Shield sent no-showed on me and when I started checking the reviews, it was terrible. They would order parts and never get back with the person. So, I was very leery because AHS only has contracts with one or two people in the area that work on those types of things. And that one was that. I pushed and tried to talk to management and I said I wanted to work with a different company. I didn't want these people in my house but AHS was 100% unwilling to change or do anything different so I canceled the claim. We ended up doing it ourselves. But this last round was wonderful. The AC was working but it was not maintaining the temperature and it had a Freon leak. The tech was able to refill it and repair the AC. He was fantastic and quick, and it was super easy.

    My air conditioner went out. We were out of the ability to cool our house for three weeks because it took forever for American Home Shield to identify a vendor who would come and fix it. That was during a time when temperatures were over 100 degrees every day and I told them I've got people with medical conditions in my home. That left a bitter taste in my mouth.     I received an alert from my alarm company saying that I had an environmental leak. I had no idea what that was, and they began to explain to me what an environmental leak is. The condensation from the AC drips, and the AC unit was tilted, causing water to start backing up inside the drip pan. I had a clogged drain. Now, I was frantic and I didn't even think that I had homeowners insurance, and my wife had already told me. I called Milestone Electric, and they came out, opened up the AC unit and looked at it. The guy showed me a video of how it looked, and it was in bad condition.

    That same day, as he left, I called American Home Shield and they said they would dispatch a guy to come out. I also thought I let the policy lapse, which was another reason why I called. The lady said, “No, sir. You don't expire until November.” The guy came out Saturday, looked at it and said my AC unit is fine. The guy was good. He said I still have some more life in it. I showed him the same video the guy showed me. He said "This guy is just trying to sell you an AC." I said, “Sir, I just want my AC to run. I have little kids in here. I just want it to be right.” He said, “Promise, it’s good.” So I left it at that.

    The clogged drain goes from the AC unit down to the master bedroom pipe. The guy cut that pipe open, replaced it and fixed the sensor. I hadn't had any problems on the AC unit as of yet. He said, “I'm not here to sell you a unit. I'm here to make sure you are serviced as an American Home Shield customer and make sure you're good to go. And I don't want you spending money unless you have to.” I said, “I understand. I appreciate that, sir.” He said, “You don't need another unit.” Getting American Home Shield was the best decision I ever made. Whatever you do, don't sleep on them. Get them.

    The house wasn't cooling. It took three days for techs to come after I contacted American Home Shield. The techs provided good service. Before, when the AC would come on, I would hear click, click, click then I would hear it running and blowing. I don't hear that now but the house is cooling off. But the only thing they did was put Freon in it. I wouldn't think that would do all that.

    Altstadt Hoffman Plumbing replaced the hot and cold water valves on my washer and they did a good job. But I had an electrician come out through American Home Shield and he just kind of moved around the whole fixture within the ceiling and he moved it around and it started working without blowing a fuse. He said it was fixed and he left but I can't get that light to come on at all now. I paid 100 bucks for this guy to come out and take care of me but the light is still not working. Also, there were a couple of times I called AHS to get repairs on my plumbing and different things and they said those were not covered under my warranty. I called my Realtor and she called AHS and got it taken care of for me. I told AHS I want to speak to an agent and they called me back. They said I'm covered and they'd have somebody come out and take care of the claim.

    The monthly payment seems reasonable and the co-pay has stayed the same for quite a while. The last service we had was $75 and it was deducted without a problem. The contractor who came out fixed the problem in 15 minutes with a wrench. So it seemed like a pretty tall bill for a 15-minute thing. At the time, we thought we got ripped off by the contractor. One of the things that we had a problem with American Home Shield was that after we paid the $75 co-pay, the contractor said that something wasn't up to code and they charged us an extra bit of money. We had to go to our equity line of credit to get that taken care of because it threw us for a loop because we thought that would have been covered. When I looked at the work he had done afterward, it looked exactly the same as what was up there before. But we got the hot water heater installed and it was working fine.

    American Home Shield is not the greatest company. They've come out for repairs, and the technicians are fine, but I don't like the fact that every time I make a claim, they charge me to have somebody come out and look at what I'm claiming. I have a mobile home insurance and it covers the mobile home in general. When I have water damage, they come out, but I don't ever get charged because the adjuster comes out and looks at the damages.

    American Home Shield charges me every time they send a contractor out to look at something that's supposed to be under warranty that I'm paying for. I had a microwave issue, and they charged me $130 to have somebody look at it, even though it's supposed to be covered. Now, with the AC unit, they're saying I have to pay $170. I've had somebody look at that. When you use the warranty, that means you shouldn't be paying to have somebody come out. That should just be an adjuster that comes out. But they always send a different contractor.

    Appliance Care came to repair the hot water heater. In the process, they confirmed what had been reported previously, that the air conditioning was not functioning. It was 20 years old. So the hot water heater and the air conditioner were replaced. This was different from the previous ones that we've had because the vendor dealt with the whole thing. Normally, they go back to American Home Shield, and they tell them what to do and what not to do. The repairman didn't do that in this instance. He did an adequate job. He came out, looked at the situation, explained what was wrong and what was involved and delivered the replacement. The installer came and did installation. He had to come back the second day because he didn't have one piece of a pipe he needed to install.

    American Home Shield gets the vendors out quickly. But I'm not quite sure what the policy practice is in terms of handling. We had a problem with a dishwasher door. They claimed that the problem with the door was not from somebody dropping something on it. The door was that way when we purchased it. It did not happen after we were in the place. We weren't even using the dishwasher until we've been here for a couple of months. That was the one thing we were not satisfied with because the dishwasher door is still a problem.

    My refrigerator is leaking from the bottom. I spoke to a great representative when I filed a claim to American Home Shield. Everyone's been a lot better. The guy from Savvy Tech is waiting on a part at this point. He came once and figured out what he needed. He ordered the part. He came back, replaced the part and then it continued to leak. So, he needed to order another part. My refrigerator is not fixed yet. I still am having issues because I have water on my floor and I have a wood floor. At least these people pick up the phone. So, that's a benefit. When I call, they don't leave me on hold forever. I like that. I used to be on hold forever and it was so frustrating. I’m much happier about the huge improvement. Before, I would absolutely not recommend the company. I couldn't stand American Home Shield but currently, I'm feeling better about it.

    They're working to improve their systems and make it more user-friendly. One of the things I do like is that you can do an order online now or a service online. That hasn't worked out for me only because they had also given me two service calls this year for free if I re-signed up. So, you can't use the free service call. You have to call them directly for the service call. But the calling improvement makes me happy.

    I've had American Home Shield at a couple of properties and it's a hit-and-miss. They could have better subcontractors. I had a work order set with the subcontractor on Monday. The plumbers couldn't get out there until next Monday so I had to hire somebody else to do the job. That aside, there is a benefit to having the home warranty like when I have problems and I only have $100 to get them fixed.

    No matter what setting I put the washer on, it takes two to three hours for the cycle to complete. Also, I would check and it would say four minutes left but then I check again and it had gone up to 17 minutes. Good Life Refrigeration came out two or three times and replaced parts but it still kept happening. Then, Good Life would tell me one thing but I would call American Home Shield and they would tell me something totally different. We’re going back and forth and I’m still waiting right now. It's frustrating.

    I talked to a representative from American Home Shield and it really pissed me off. The lady said that it's not a mechanical issue and from what they see, if my clothes are still washing, no matter how long it takes, then that should be fine. What does she mean that should be fine? American Home Shield said they're gonna get right back to me. This was last week and I haven't heard anything. Also, I had gotten a little message saying that the people that came out before were gonna get ahold of me and the tech told me that he closed everything out with American Home Shield. He said that the part that they keep sending to me is a refurbished part and the same thing keeps happening. He said there ain't nothing else he could do.

    I had an air conditioner issue. An initial rep was sent out and they said there was an issue with vegetation. But that was not the case. So we asked for a second opinion. They said there was an issue with the air conditioning, but they said this can be repaired using this said servicemen. So I looked over the reviews of the service person, and it seemed like they've had several complaints with the Better Business Bureau and so many different negative reviews. So I was concerned.     My washing machine was acting sporadic. It would work on some cycles then it would stop. Moonstar was our service provider and they responded in two, three days. The repair also didn't go well. This happened four weeks ago and the issue still isn't resolved. The tech that came out said that the washing machine was going to be too costly to repair. He told my wife, “Go ahead and give me a 5-star rating, and I'll just put in the system that you need a new washing machine...It's easier to do it that way.”

    We contacted American Home Shield after. And they said the tech put in the system that it was a user error and that we overloaded the machine, which caused the breakdown. We're still trying to figure out where we stand and what we should do. We have been trying to get with American Home Shield and they keep saying, “Let's reach out to Moonstar. Let’s see if Moonstar can rectify it. If they have no other comments to make, it was overloaded machine which broke the whole thing.” The washing machine is not even broken.

    American Home Shield said they were gonna escalate it to their contract department and to give them 48 hours. We called back in 48 hours and they said, “We didn't see that. We fully understand what's going on. Let’s escalate it. Give us 48 hours.” That has been going on for maybe a week and a half now. My wife called yesterday and after holding for 30 minutes, the call got disconnected. They didn't call us back.

    American Home Shield sent a gentleman out from McAtee. He was thinking that they sent him out for plumbing services but my main concern was roofing. The gentleman that came was nice but he didn't do roofing. Since he was already here, he still evaluated the situation. He then called and spoke to someone. I told him and showed him the situation. He took pictures and he said he was gonna send them to his boss. He sat in the truck for a little while, came back, and said he got things situated. He said that he was gonna put back the claim for the roof. All of a sudden, they were not calling back for somebody to come back. Everybody makes it like they don't know what's going on.

    I was sent a brochure and the first thing it says underneath the column of what the company does repair was roofing. I was told to call customer service so I did and the young lady in customer service said, "Ma'am, we have you covered under roof repair, roof leaks, whatever." I said, "Yeah 'cause the brochure has that as the first thing on my thing that I have." McAtee was supposed to come back out again on Tuesday. But I got a message from them that they're not gonna be able to come. I'm paying for something and I can't even get anything done. And we've been having this rain like crazy in the south. American Home Shield offered to pay me back the $100-something for reimbursement of what they were supposed to fix.

    I have a piggyback washer and dryer and the dryer broke. American Home Shield would only give me money for the dryer because the washer still works, but to replace the dryer, I have to get rid of both. They should really think about people that have a one unit because to replace my unit now is almost $1,900. They are going to give me 750 back and that was really generous, but if somebody didn't have the extra money to throw in, that would be horrible.

    If we had a way of going through and picking the contractors that came to our house, which is a slippery slope for Home Shield as a provider, that would be nice. I've had problems in the past and I've had a couple of contractors that I have told Home Shield to never send to my house again. Also, the deductible goes up every year. If I'm using it and I'm having things replaced, then it’s okay. But with the service call charge going up every year, my policy rate goes up and the service call comes up. In the past, I’ve had two appliances go out at the same time and they were two service calls even though the same guys are gonna come out and do it. But other than that, I've been pretty happy. I've looked at other policies and I didn't see whether there was anything that other policies offered that American Home Shield didn’t.

    I've been with American Home Shield since we had our house built in '95 and I am very disappointed in them because I've had problems with my AC and my heat for a long time and all they do is come and repair. Now, my VEPCO bills are so high. I just paid $448 and some change for one month because the system is old. Their contractors have come out so many times and it's the same thing over and over. I have talked to them to see if they would try to help put a new one in, but they're not doing it. They said long as they can do parts, that's what they're gonna take care of.

    I was satisfied with American Home Shield when they helped me get the refrigerator, although I had to pay some money for it, the washing machine, and the dishwasher but with this AC and my heat, I'm very dissatisfied. Also, I had one guy come to my house who stole one of my husband's tools that was laying on the counter. I told American Home Shield I did not want him in my house anymore.

    I've American Home Shield a long time. Sometimes, they send out somebody that's awesome, then sometimes they’ve sent people out that were not so awesome. Lately, I have to argue with them a lot to honor their contract. They’ll come back, and I have to pay for it, then they’ll refund me. They’ll say, “No, it’s not covered.” I end up going to their boss, then their boss’ boss, and then their boss would say, “Oh, that is covered. She knows what the contract says.” I’ll have to quote page and paragraph, then they send me out somebody like South Tampa Pool & Spa, who is fabulous and very respected. They have very intelligent technicians that come out, and they do a great job. Recently, there was a leak on my pool pump housing top. I sent them a picture, and they knew exactly what it was. When they came out, they fixed it.

    The most fabulous part of American Home Shield is Teri, because she fights for us. She's their representative in this area, and if I ever have a problem, I call her. She helps me get in touch with the right person. My problem most of the time is with the people at their home office. They just give you these answers, “The contract says that this is not covered.” They're some robot, somebody spitting out something they read on a card. It’s like, “Okay. Can I talk to somebody with a pulse, that actually knows the contract?” If I get to the right person, like a supervisor, they’ll say, “Oh, no, you’re right. It is covered.”

    It’s a shame because I've been a Realtor since 2008 and I sell their contract. The reason I stay with American Home Shield is because of Teri, because she’s amazing. I tell my clients, “Look, home warranties are pain in the butt. The reason I’m telling you this is they're still a good thing to have, you gotta be patient, and we have Teri on our side. So, she will help us make this work for you.” I would recommend Teri. I’d give her a 5 every day and twice on Sunday.

    I had an AC system go out and had to be replaced. That whole thing was a pain. I had an issue with this AC last year as well. American Home Shield kept trying to slap a Band-Aid on a 17-year old unit before they finally broke down. When they decided to go ahead and replace it, they wanted to replace it with some cheap, no-name piece of crap. When I found my policy, I was told that the cleaning service would be covered but it was not and I have a rooftop unit. Their cash-out option was horrible. They made me pay for the modification of my roof because a new unit is not going to fit the old fitting and there had to be a modification made to make it fit.

    American Home Shield wanted me to use an AC company that I did not want to use and they didn't give me an option other than the cash-out option. After everything was excluded, they covered roughly two grand and I paid 10,000. I had to finance the rest. Another thing was when I signed up for the policy, it was less then the premiums just keep going up. Now, I spend 70 or 80 bucks a month. I am not happy. American Home Shield should improve their coverage and their premiums.

    That aside, the experience that I just had this year with their contractor Pruitt's Plumbing for the AC was stellar. I filed my claim, paid my fee, and they set up the service. Pruitt's came out and took care of everything. Their guy was awesome. Everything sticks. That was a perfect interaction too. On the other hand, the AC episode last year was the complete opposite.

    I’ve had the service of AHS for two years. I had somebody come out to check my ductwork and everything underneath my house, and I had somebody come out and check the air conditioning system. They just told me everything was fine and ticked it off. I called the people they sent out myself and they told me that I needed a whole new system and ductwork. I had to have all that replaced. But we know AHS is not gonna pay for it. So I went and paid people out of my pocket to get a whole new system and it cost me $13,900. AHS is not a good company.

    AHS has been good to me in general. But not their third-party vendors. For example, I had someone come to the house and I was at work. This was for the AC. My sister was there but she didn't know anything about it. The guy said, “It’s damaged. It’s beyond repair.” The guy was there for less than 10 minutes. I made it there in just enough time. I said, “Sir, can you please show me what was going on.” Then the gentleman literally jumped on his phone, called his headquarters with the phone and headed out into the seat for 10 minutes. I stood there and watched him from outside. I said, “Are you gonna show me what happened, what’s going on?” He said, “Oh yeah, I am.” But I said, “You know what? Don’t worry about it.” It meant to say he didn’t want to show me. The guy also said he sprayed the AC down for it to work. He said it was not breathing, so it was all beyond repair.

    I went and got a second opinion and had the thing cleaned and scrubbed. The AC was older, but it wasn’t severely damaged. The water drainage to the AC thing was really clogged. It was draining inside the house and causing mold. The guy did not bother to look and find out what was going on. Right till today, I’m dealing with a huge $3,000 to $5,000 bill I've got to try to figure out how I’m gonna pay, because the gentleman did not do his job, did not look inside the unit, try to find out what was the reason. I called AHS and complained and told them they cannot use those guys.

    I was very concerned when AMP Mechanical came out for the AC. Their reviews are terrible. Sky was one of their techs. He came out, diagnosed the problem, knew what was wrong and got the part ordered. He said he'd give me a call and let me know. But I had to call them back to find out when they were coming back. It was not their fault that the part took three weeks to come in. They did the best job they could. When the part came in, they were right back out here. He was only here 30 minutes and the AC's great. For the microwave that American Home Shield replaced, the guy brought it but never came back to install it. I had no way to contact him. My husband ended up installing it. It was one that goes above the stove, so it had to be hung and installed. Other than that, American Home Shield has been great. I tell my friends about them all the time. I also told my mom and my sister about them.

    We used to have American Home Shield back in Kansas and my husband said that he remembered them being a good company back there. But it has not been that same experience in Texas. It has not been worth the money. We won't get it again. We've had several issues. Like one time, with our garbage disposal, we had to call in and beg for somebody to replace it. It got stuck in the process and my wife had to call several times in order to get somebody to move it along and we were out of the disposal for a week. The people that came in tried to bait-and-switch us. The garbage disposal we have now feels like it's rinky-dink. It doesn't have the guts of the one that we had before. And I just tolerate it. Just recently, we had someone come out for the disposal again. We had to pay another $100 because the first people didn't install it right. They didn't change the adapter part. It started rusting out and leaking.

    You hear things from The Good Contractor when they send advertisements out there. They talk about how people would go out there and wouldn't do what you need, but they would tell you you need something else. But the guys we had were very nice and genuine, and all they did was just charge us the service fee. They just fixed it and went on. And I thought, "I will definitely be calling you guys again if we need a plumber." They were honest and I appreciated that.

    With our dryer we tried three times to use in-network folks to fix it and they would never be able to figure anything out. We ended up going outside of the network and hired somebody else. He has rebuilt the entire dryer in trying to find what the issues were. We paid AHS a few $100, but nothing that bad. But the biggest one was with our AC. The compressor motor went out, so our house was not cooling during the summer for our upstairs, which is where our boys sleep. So, we called the in-network folks and they said, "We'll get somebody out there in four days." And that was in the summer. And I said, "Screw that. We can't wait that much time." So, we went outside of network again. They were there at our house in no time. He assessed the situation and realized that the compressor motor had to be replaced. So, we paid $1,300 out of pocket to get that fixed.

    American Home Shield responds quick and someone comes out and does the job quickly. After you already paid your monthly fee though, you got to pay $75 for somebody to just come out. That could be lowered a little bit, especially for something simple. I submitted a claim when my pipe burst then I thought it burst again. The plumbing company that came out said that there wasn't a leak and it was the piping of the AC. The condensation was on the pipe. They cut a little hole in the ceiling back, so now I'm gonna call for somebody to put it back. They just gave me a phone number to call so I can make an appointment.

    When I put a claim in, the representative that I spoke with at American Home Shield barely spoke any English and he was not understanding what I was saying. He was arguing with me when I asked to speak to a supervisor because he started getting rude. I was trying to cancel my claim at first. He told me I couldn't then put me on hold for 30 minutes. Everybody else except that person has always been great. Sharper Solutions recently came to replace my oven. There was a measuring issue, and all they did was plug it in and left. It barely fits so I had to stand it down a little bit. But they didn't call me to let me know it didn't fit. They just left it like that. I had to come home with my oven in the middle of my kitchen.

    The pilot light went out on the water heater. I tried to reset it and get it to light, but all it would do was just strike. It wouldn’t light. I tried to submit the claim online but I couldn't get through right online. So I had to call and then American Home Shield sent me a text message. They told me who was coming out, and that they should be calling me, and if they didn't call to call them. The contractor told me what time the tech was coming out and he was here at that time. He went in there and took the water heater apart at the bottom and looked at it. He said there was something wrong with the igniter. He said he had to do something else to it to get it to light and it lit after that. Then he said if I needed him to come back out to call him and he left his card here. It was good. American Home Shield has been a good service so far.

    We like American Home Shield's service well, and I don't have any main complaints. I understand how the contract works and what we can request, and I have two open claims right now. When I call in though, it's call-centery. I can tell they've got a lot going on, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. However, this last time when a plumber from Plumb Genius came out, I had to call four times to American Home Shield and get them on the phone. “Hey, I have this hole in my wall. What are we going to do?” They said, “Oh, yeah, we'll have to contact a contractor and we'll let you know.”

    The next day, I didn’t hear anything, so I called again and they said, “Oh, yeah, we're gonna contact the contractor and then let you know what to do.” The next day, I called back and they told me the same thing. I said, “Listen, guys, I've heard this a few times. What's up?” They said, “Well, just wait seven days before we can come out and fix it ‘cause it's got to dry.” I said, “Okay, great. If I had known that two days ago, I wouldn't have called you.”

    The young man that came and helped us from Plumb Genius found a bad leak. It was great that he came and fixed it, but there's a big hole in the wall now that I assume I'm going to reach out to get repaired soon from American Home Shield. The young man wasn’t great too. They've come out before for other things and they haven't quite been as thorough as we would like. The last time they came, they had to come back out a couple of days later to fix something that they didn't quite get fixed. But great experience in the home aside from that. We have contractors out regularly and it always goes well. The contractors are generally really good. Oaks Heat and Air has been excellent every time they came out. There was another electrician that I had come out that I really liked as well.

    We've had American Home Shield for this home since we lived here, and the home before that, and have always really appreciated it. Last night, the dishwasher broke, and we've also had the washing machine making a loud noise, a crack in the cooktop, and the refrigerator in the garage is not cooling now. I thought, “Well, now, I'll make a claim. I'll just add all four of those on it," and that's a beautiful thing. I love that about it.

    I called AHS and made a claim. They assigned the repair company to come out and look at it. They determined it could not be fixed because it was a dryer that they said they could not get parts for. So, we had no alternative but to get a new one. We asked for the cash-out because a lot of the appliances that were on their shopping list had steam options. Because it's a rental, we didn't wanna put steam options in there because there's no water hookup for the dryer. That was why we chose to just go get our own. The only downside is it creates a lag time of getting the service done when the repairman goes out there and determines he can't fix it and then you gotta go shopping for a new one.

    Their service is hit-and-miss at times. In the condo, the shower from the above unit was leaking into our shower. We called out the plumbing. The plumbing people came out and it was very overpriced for a small hole and caulk. We felt like that was not a worthwhile part of AHS's service. But then we had a really good experience with the water heater and the person that was chosen.
