When I put a claim in, the representative that I spoke with at American Home Shield barely spoke any English and he was not understanding what I was saying. He was arguing with me when I asked to speak to a supervisor because he started getting rude. I was trying to cancel my claim at first. He told me I couldn't then put me on hold for 30 minutes. Everybody else except that person has always been great. Sharper Solutions recently came to replace my oven. There was a measuring issue, and all they did was plug it in and left. It barely fits so I had to stand it down a little bit. But they didn't call me to let me know it didn't fit. They just left it like that. I had to come home with my oven in the middle of my kitchen.

I had an air conditioner issue. An initial rep was sent out and they said there was an issue with vegetation. But that was not the case. So we asked for a second opinion. They said there was an issue with the air conditioning, but they said this can be repaired using this said servicemen. So I looked over the reviews of the service person, and it seemed like they've had several complaints with the Better Business Bureau and so many different negative reviews. So I was concerned. Why would I want my air conditioner repaired through this servicer? So then I asked for cash in lieu and American Home Shield offered $100 to fix this whole thing, which doesn't cover anything. So I'm totally not happy.

My refrigerator is leaking from the bottom. I spoke to a great representative when I filed a claim to American Home Shield. Everyone's been a lot better. The guy from Savvy Tech is waiting on a part at this point. He came once and figured out what he needed. He ordered the part. He came back, replaced the part and then it continued to leak. So, he needed to order another part. My refrigerator is not fixed yet. I still am having issues because I have water on my floor and I have a wood floor. At least these people pick up the phone. So, that's a benefit. When I call, they don't leave me on hold forever. I like that. I used to be on hold forever and it was so frustrating. I’m much happier about the huge improvement. Before, I would absolutely not recommend the company. I couldn't stand American Home Shield but currently, I'm feeling better about it.
They're working to improve their systems and make it more user-friendly. One of the things I do like is that you can do an order online now or a service online. That hasn't worked out for me only because they had also given me two service calls this year for free if I re-signed up. So, you can't use the free service call. You have to call them directly for the service call. But the calling improvement makes me happy.

I called and requested service for my AC. I have an 87-year-old mom that lives with me and the heat was getting to her. American Home Shield really expedited the claim and I had a service man out here the next day. He had the AC fixed up in no time. There was a loose wire on the main air conditioner outside. American Home Shield dis a good job.

My air conditioner went out. We were out of the ability to cool our house for three weeks because it took forever for American Home Shield to identify a vendor who would come and fix it. That was during a time when temperatures were over 100 degrees every day and I told them I've got people with medical conditions in my home. That left a bitter taste in my mouth. It was easy to submit the claim but getting the work done was ridiculous. But the repair service person was very professional. He needed a part so they had to order a part.

I've had American Home Shield at a couple of properties and it's a hit-and-miss. They could have better subcontractors. I had a work order set with the subcontractor on Monday. The plumbers couldn't get out there until next Monday so I had to hire somebody else to do the job. That aside, there is a benefit to having the home warranty like when I have problems and I only have $100 to get them fixed.

When I had a toilet that was stopped up, a plumber came and did it. It didn't take long at all. I also had American Home Shield with the icemaker in my refrigerator. That was the worst thing. Sears was the one supposed to come out and I didn't like Sears having to be the one to come out. A repairman came out, ordered the part, and was supposed to come back. I had to take off from work, but they didn't show up. I called and the girl that I talked to was quite short and curt. I asked “I need him to come out. Can he come out this afternoon?". She said no. I asked, "When do you plan on him coming?” She said it was gonna be two weeks before she could get anybody else out. I said, “There's a Sears Appliance Repair guy that lives not seven blocks from me. I drive by his house with the car all the time, so I know somebody's within this area because he's here." She said, "No. I can't get somebody else. It has to be the one that we assigned.”
I was livid. That was when I called American Home Shield back. They were so apologetic and told me they would get somebody else out, and they did that. They had somebody there by the next morning and installed the part that I had gotten. The young man that came was fabulous. I told a friend about American Home Shield and she has signed up for it. She was disappointed though. She had a plumbing problem but they couldn't come right away. It was leaking bad, so she had to call another plumber.

I was a little disappointed as there was less coverage than I expected for some recent plumbing work. Also, for my recent dishwasher repair, the techs had to come back a second time due to the manufacturer of the dishwasher having a process of you doing a system test. If it passes, then everything's good and I don't replace anything. It was unfortunate that I had to take time off work a second time to get parts replaced. But it was good service.
I also appreciate the discounts at the end of the year. I'm sure there are going to be years where I don't have any claims and it's not a value add to have American Home Shield. By having promotions to continue the warranty, it's enticing to renew rather than drop it. The warranty is great for a first year with a new home, not knowing what surprises might come up.

We like American Home Shield's service well, and I don't have any main complaints. I understand how the contract works and what we can request, and I have two open claims right now. When I call in though, it's call-centery. I can tell they've got a lot going on, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. However, this last time when a plumber from Plumb Genius came out, I had to call four times to American Home Shield and get them on the phone. “Hey, I have this hole in my wall. What are we going to do?” They said, “Oh, yeah, we'll have to contact a contractor and we'll let you know.”
The next day, I didn’t hear anything, so I called again and they said, “Oh, yeah, we're gonna contact the contractor and then let you know what to do.” The next day, I called back and they told me the same thing. I said, “Listen, guys, I've heard this a few times. What's up?” They said, “Well, just wait seven days before we can come out and fix it ‘cause it's got to dry.” I said, “Okay, great. If I had known that two days ago, I wouldn't have called you.”
The young man that came and helped us from Plumb Genius found a bad leak. It was great that he came and fixed it, but there's a big hole in the wall now that I assume I'm going to reach out to get repaired soon from American Home Shield. The young man wasn’t great too. They've come out before for other things and they haven't quite been as thorough as we would like. The last time they came, they had to come back out a couple of days later to fix something that they didn't quite get fixed. But great experience in the home aside from that. We have contractors out regularly and it always goes well. The contractors are generally really good. Oaks Heat and Air has been excellent every time they came out. There was another electrician that I had come out that I really liked as well.
We've had American Home Shield for this home since we lived here, and the home before that, and have always really appreciated it. Last night, the dishwasher broke, and we've also had the washing machine making a loud noise, a crack in the cooktop, and the refrigerator in the garage is not cooling now. I thought, “Well, now, I'll make a claim. I'll just add all four of those on it," and that's a beautiful thing. I love that about it.

My air conditioning wasn't cooling downstairs. It was on but it was getting hotter. We submitted the claim to American Home Shield on Saturday. Millennial came out on Tuesday. It was Labor Day weekend. We left the house that Saturday. We were out running errands, and it was fine. I came home and my husband was like, “It’s hot.” You could feel the temperature as it just rises in the house downstairs. Millennial fixed the AC the day they came.
As far as AHS, I like that I don't have to worry about calling around and trying to get quotes and find somebody to fix something, and then having to spend a lot of money out of pocket. A downside is not everything is covered. We've had so many issues lately. The mold wasn’t covered. We had to spend all that money out of pocket. So, it was like they came out and looked at everything because we were having a leak. We had to call them out multiple times for this leak. We noticed six months later, all of a sudden, we had mold, and I just randomly found it in a vent. That was $6,000 out of pocket because they had to get a another company.
They had to get somebody out to survey it and test it. Then once they do that, then they have to come up with a remedy plan. So then they have to pay for the remedy plan, and then they have to find a company that will get rid of the mold. Then they had to replace our two big huge plenum boxes that are upstairs because of the damage because they were full of mold. No companies cover mold. I have utilized AHS so much and they have done a lot. So, I'm not dissatisfied but I have also spent a lot of money. In 2022 alone, between the mold and paying the $1,300 in less than six months that I've had to pay that amount of money out this year already, just for my house, these are items that were not covered. It was like I probably would have spent more if I didn't have it. So, I'm very grateful that I do have it.

The company that American Home Shield sent no-showed on me and when I started checking the reviews, it was terrible. They would order parts and never get back with the person. So, I was very leery because AHS only has contracts with one or two people in the area that work on those types of things. And that one was that. I pushed and tried to talk to management and I said I wanted to work with a different company. I didn't want these people in my house but AHS was 100% unwilling to change or do anything different so I canceled the claim. We ended up doing it ourselves. But this last round was wonderful. The AC was working but it was not maintaining the temperature and it had a Freon leak. The tech was able to refill it and repair the AC. He was fantastic and quick, and it was super easy.

The contractor did what they needed to do. They explained to me what was going on with the system. And they fixed it and they left. On the other hand, I had some faucet issues. American Home Shield clearly advertises on TV that when you're buying a home, you should buy them because you don't know what's wrong with it. “We will protect you.” The guy who came in, I don't know what he wrote, because he told me something different than the agent. He said, “Yes, we gotta get a replacement on this faucet because we can’t repair it.” And this is the kitchen faucet. He went outside, he called AHS. He came inside and said, “They're saying it’s preexisting.” I said, “Okay. First of all, it wasn't. It wasn't like this. It just broke. Second of all, you can even see the pieces that is here that is broke.” I called AHS and the lady who picked up said, “No, this is preexisting. We're not going to fixed something that your owner did.”
This is falsifying information to what AHS' commercial is. I paid somebody else to come and fix it. But that's not acceptable. So if I refer somebody to AHS, I'm going to say, “You know what? They have their games to play. So wait a month before you call them. Because then, they won't tell you it’s preexisting.” It's ridiculous, and I'm paying that much money. And they said this is preexisting. Even I've been told that I could call and ask for another plumber and dispute it. And he said, usually, the second plumber, they fix. This is how they do it. I said, “That’s ridiculous. Why are you putting us through this? Why don't you just fix it the first time around?” But big companies know how to get away, and they know people don't have time to deal with these things.

I had an AC system go out and had to be replaced. That whole thing was a pain. I had an issue with this AC last year as well. American Home Shield kept trying to slap a Band-Aid on a 17-year old unit before they finally broke down. When they decided to go ahead and replace it, they wanted to replace it with some cheap, no-name piece of crap. When I found my policy, I was told that the cleaning service would be covered but it was not and I have a rooftop unit. Their cash-out option was horrible. They made me pay for the modification of my roof because a new unit is not going to fit the old fitting and there had to be a modification made to make it fit.
American Home Shield wanted me to use an AC company that I did not want to use and they didn't give me an option other than the cash-out option. After everything was excluded, they covered roughly two grand and I paid 10,000. I had to finance the rest. Another thing was when I signed up for the policy, it was less then the premiums just keep going up. Now, I spend 70 or 80 bucks a month. I am not happy. American Home Shield should improve their coverage and their premiums.
That aside, the experience that I just had this year with their contractor Pruitt's Plumbing for the AC was stellar. I filed my claim, paid my fee, and they set up the service. Pruitt's came out and took care of everything. Their guy was awesome. Everything sticks. That was a perfect interaction too. On the other hand, the AC episode last year was the complete opposite.

He went in there and took the water heater apart at the bottom and looked at it. He said there was something wrong with the igniter. He said he had to do something else to it to get it to light and it lit after that. Then he said if I needed him to come back out to call him and he left his card here. It was good. One of my issues was with a swimming pool, and that got handled. There was a leak at the pump and luckily, it was somewhere reachable and serviceable. It was above the pump at the filter, and the solution was to replace a rubber gasket. Luckily, that was all, ‘cause if it was any further, I’d think, “Oh, this is gonna suck so bad.” On the other hand, it was really hard to address the issue on one of our HVAC units, the one that services the bottom floor.
It took me a month and a half to do something. Part of the contractual agreement was to try to find the original servicer, but I don't know how long it's been there. I was like, “You mean I have to go and research like I’m Sherlock Holmes, find out who bought this, when was it installed?” With that kind of homework, I just gave up with American Home Shield. I went through my manager who had an HVAC repair tech she trusted. The guy came over and seconds later, he said, “Oh, it’s just some issue with the wiring.” He just tweaked that and everything turned on. That was amazing.
American Home Shield is about average for a home warranty service. They go out and hire a local contractor. Everybody wants to get the most bang for their buck, and that’s understandable, but their incentives conflict with each other. An HVAC repair guy that I worked with said he noticed that some of the other techs that came to take a look and quoted me these prices and all this work and gave me the runaround, he said he's worked with some of them in the past. When it comes to the warranty services, the contractors have an incentive to not be as helpful because it pays more. They know they have an informational advantage in that their customers don't know what they're looking at. So, there is this temptation on their part. It would be difficult for me to know whether the guy is being fully sincere then I find out that the answer is no, they were not being fully sincere.
I had one contractor (not through American Home Shield) quoting me at 12,000 then he immediately went into his closing pitch to talk to me. “Would you like us to get started?” I looked at him and said, “No, not at all, matter of fact.” He dropped his price down to 9,000 immediately then I got a call later that day dropping the price down to 7,000. By then, the answer was no. I didn't have that exact horrific experience with American Home Shield, but those were some of the people that I encountered. That’s not American Home Shield’s fault, but it's difficult for me to disassociate the connection.

The young guy that came out was very professional. It seemed like every other year, the issue with the unit is almost the same thing because it wasn't cooling at all. If it gets past 90 in the summer, I had to drop the air really, really low to try to get it to cool off, and then I might break out a fan. But this year, I did very well because the contractor did some extra stuff on it. When the older guy came out, he found another problem at the time and fixed it.
When the contractor came out in March, I wound up having to put 500 dollars of antifreeze because American Home Shield does the first pound. I was a little frustrated. I don't mind paying if I need something done. But I don’t wanna feel like I’m taken advantage of. It was not quite a week that I had to call them out for the same problem. Another gentleman came back out with the tech and he said that it was a loose wire. But American Home Shield didn't charge me again because it was within the time that they could come back out. American Home Shield always shows up and does their part. But they can't help the people that come out who don't do theirs. All I can do is let them know.

On Saturday, I was out in the garage going through stuff. I went to the other side of my car and noticed that it was all wet. I called American Home Shield and they sent out the DryMaster. Techs came out on Sunday. They turned off the water heater and drained it with my hose, which is fine. They took some pictures. They told me to start moving everything when the dry tech people got there and not before. That's what I did. I turned on my fan that's in the garage and I started drying things out.
When the dry tech people got there, I shared with them what was damaged and what was not. Thankfully, I had a lot of stuff on the shelves. But all the wooden shelves got messed up. When they unplugged the refrigerator, it stopped working. I had to move everything from the freezer into my other freezer and from the fridge into my other fridge. I've had one in the garage and one in the kitchen. But for some reason, it was not working anymore.
The other techs need to put the water heater back on top of the cube once the dry tech people put all the drywall back. They tore the drywall down on the inside bedroom and they put fans in there. They tore down the drywall in the garage and put fans there as well as the little cube that the water heater stood on. They put fans up for three days and they said they won't come back out until American Home Shield pays them. On the whole, I'm satisfied.

But they fixed mine pretty easily. The guy that fixed the AC knew what was wrong with it and the fix is making my air conditioner much cooler. I've been having it on 70 versus 69, 68 when I usually sleep. It improved.
American Home Shield was much better than the last few times I've used it. I've had this home warranty service for seven years now. I've used it on the AC and the dryer. Just now, I used it for the AC and the microwave. The microwave man didn't even have to come because according to the video, my microwave was fried and unsafe to work on. Less than a week later, I was able to pick a microwave and techs installed it last Friday. I really love my microwave and didn't realize how much I use it until it was out for two weeks.

My air conditioner broke in the middle of a heat wave. American Home Shield went through many companies and no one would come out. They gave me a few to try because they were calling, and I was calling and the woman from Liberty had someone here that day, which was amazing because you never get that. I liked how cooperative they were and that they got here. The woman went above and beyond to get someone here. I had just gotten home after having heart surgery in the hospital. Home Shield was good, too. Because my husband and I both have health issues, they expedited it so that someone would come as soon as possible.

The pricing of AHS is good for what they come and have to fix. Grace Air & Heat was great. They had to come out another time because the problem wasn’t resolved. But they figured out quickly what was going on and the AC hasn't been having any issues since. But we had a situation with our ceiling fan that was broken, and we had to throw away the blades and take them off the fan because we have kids at the house. That wasn't explained beforehand that we shouldn't have done that in order to get the fan fixed. But we paid the deductible and then it wasn't fixed. So, we wasted the money.

American Home Shield couldn't find somebody within our area that could come for our Whirlpool tub, and they put it on us to find someone that was acceptable. We have to have them come out and pay them, then American Home Shield will reimburse us. It seems okay, but the reason why we pay them $75 a month is so that they handle finding someone. It's not like, “Oh, my god. We can't survive,” like our air conditioning, but it's a frustration.
Overall, the other claims have all happened relatively quickly. The Whirlpool tub claim was really weird, because it got canceled a few times. I was trying to get a refund for the money that I put out and they didn't tell me that it canceled, so I was still waiting for a technician. Finally, I had to contact American Home Shield by phone, and they said, “Oh, well, we refunded you.” They didn't refund me, then they made me pay again before they refunded me, so that I could get the work order opened again. At one point, I was out $150, and we still haven't gotten the Whirlpool tub fixed, because we don't have that kind of money to put out. I’m little disappointed in that, making us rethink if we're going to continue. We know when we re-up next year. I can put that $75 in a bank account and hope to God, nothing comes up.

We also have a through-the-wall unit upstairs and techs came out for that before. American Home Shield would not pay for it. They said they don’t do older units. That was terribly bad and we had to buy a new AC unit. We’re paying the warranty every month to not have to do that. That was just the one claim that went bad for us. I was just upset because it was a play on words with the through-the-wall air conditioner. That was weak. If they cover through-the-wall air conditioning units, there shouldn’t be a stipulation on what kind of through-the-wall unit it is. But they had a good excuse. Other than that, American Home Shield has been pretty decent and they even helped us out. One claim I had gone perfectly. A tech came and checked the level to make sure that everything was okay. It showed that everything was okay.

I highly recommend American Home Shield. Every time I've made a request, they've been honorable on my request. Recently, I filed a claim when the motor to the fan went out on the AC unit. American Home Shield sent out a notification that said the contractor was going to be White AC Service. I looked up White AC Service to see their reviews. They were good. I told the repairman the condenser was working but the fan was not. He pulled the cover to the AC unit in the attic, got his voltmeter, checked the voltage to the motor and said that the motor was burned out. He did the work quickly. I was very happy. He communicated very well. He was prompt and informative.

My garage door wouldn't open. The website of AHS was fine when I submitted a claim for it. I went in and clicked it, and my credit card was on file. They sent me who it was going to do the repair. It said something about, “You'll hear within a day or two,” but I hadn't heard, so I reached out, and they scheduled the appointment with me, showed up and fixed it. I've had a positive experience with AHS. I have one claim right now that's open and it's taken a long time to get done, but I'm thinking it's because they're having a hard time finding a part.

I love American Home Shield as the service. They are great at follow-up. They are also great at the vendors who come out. They were professional and always on time. So they do a good job on contracting with actual repair people. But I had a problem with the actual Lowe's folks. My appliances had to be replaced. I don't do well shopping, especially for appliances, by looking at a picture online. I can't do that. I’m old. I gotta go in and touch it and feel it. I looked at the pictures but I couldn't decide. So I opted to get the actual gift card. But the whole experience was a disaster. One, I wasn't sure who the vendor would actually be for. I wasn’t sure if it was gonna be Home Depot or Lowe's or Montgomery Ward. But Lowe’s is horrible.
I live in Oakland and the actual Lowe's is in Union City. It's half an hour drive from me. When I got in the store, they had this great sale going on. I had a range and a over-the -range microwave that went bad. I picked out the range and it went fine. For the over-the-counter microwave, I came in the store and told a salesperson that I needed a 30-inch slide-in. We started talking about that and he said, “Well, microwaves are a different bugger. We suggest that you get a premeasurement. It's gonna be $45. And if you buy the unit, we put it toward installation.” It sounded like a winner to me, so I took that and I went on about my business. Since he was sending me in another direction, I asked him if I would get the sales price or when was the sale over? He said, “I don't know when the sale is over.” I was really excited about the pretty range so I just let it go.
The sale was ending the next day. So I tried to call the store, and I was on hold for 40 minutes. Then someone came and hung the line up. I tried the Lowe's customer service and I was on hold again. They said, “Oh, well, you need to speak to someone in the store to find out about the sale. Let us send you over.” I told them, “No one answers the phone, which is why I called you.” Then they said, “We know how to get you in through curbside pick-up. They're the only ones in the store that answer the phone.” So I went through curbside pick-up. The guy here was what I wanted. But I was back on hold. The same thing happened after about 30 minutes. The line got hung up. I gave it a little bit of time. I read over the paper that Lowe’s gave me around the actual measurements. It said they would call you in two days to schedule your measurement. But I didn't have a measurement yet. They haven't called to schedule a measurement.
I called the store again. I tried to call early in the morning when they first opened. They still didn’t answer. I went back over to corporate again. First corporate lady I talked to said they didn't answer her. I called back later and got another girl. She had been there a little longer, so she knew what was going on. She said, “Well, let me call.” They didn't remove my stove. I wanted that reimbursed. I was gonna figure out how to measure the microwave myself. So I wanted that refunded back on to the card. I’ve had stuff refunded on my cards all the time. But they told me that I have to go back to Union City to get the refund. I'm a senior and handicapped.
When I called on the 7th and the 8th, Lowe's was supposed to escalate a claim with the manager that would get my questions answered. I told them, “Look, I have a responsibility to American Home Shield. I'm supposed to turn in the receipts. But if I can’t purchase it, how can I turn in all the receipts?” I also told them that I found that the sale was going off the next day and then asked them, “Should I purchase it now just online to get the sale price?” They said, “Well, if you do that and it's the wrong one, then we don't know, you won't get the sale price when you return it.” So they had me in a spot. I was supposed to have a call from the Lowe’s manager to say whether I got the sales price. Then I have to go back out there and get stuff credited and then purchase and have to deal with the delivery all over again.
I called American Home Shield to say, “Hey, I think maybe you should know that someone you guys are partnering or contracting with, not taking really good care of your customers. I'm letting you guys know, they're not doing a good job with us. And it doesn't look good.” I'm a person that's been in business for so long enough to be able to separate the two. That's not American Home Shield. That’s Lowe’s. But American Home Shield is contracting with Lowe’s. I was told, “They're not our partners or anything. We just send them to you.” So I said, “So, you really don't think that there's an agreement between American Home Shield and Lowe's to provide a service to American Home Shield’s clients?” She told me no.
I had to talk to the representative and it took a pretty long time to get her to understand why this wasn't good for American Home Shield that Lowe's were treating their customers like that because it changed the whole process. I loved American Home Shield but because it continued to get dragged out, it didn't make it feel right. Meanwhile, someone did an identity theft and shopped with my credit card at Lowe’s. He put it under my email, so all the receipts started coming back to me. I called the Texas store and sent them all the stuff to say, “Hey, these are fraudulent charges someone's doing on your store.”
I have totally enjoyed the experience with American Home Shield. I trust them. I went online and paid my money for the person to come out. They called the next day and scheduled the appointment. They were ready to come out the day after that or so. But I needed someone to be here to go up and down the stairs. So I pushed it out. American Home Shield should have more options on who they're gonna give out the gift certificate to. They should have more care on the vendors.

I'm not anywhere near unhappy with American Home Shield. My stove wasn't working right for a while. Then I smelled gas and I decided to put in a claim. The gentleman they sent out to fix my stove was extremely professional. I was very impressed. He put some blankets down, so it wouldn't hurt my hardwood floors. He took the door off the stove and put that away. He knew what the problem was.
They sent me the part. They scheduled me three weeks out and they said, “Well, we're gonna send you the part, then we'll be out here.” I got a text from them. “Do you got the part?” The guy changed the part that they sent. I was extremely pleased with the service. It took some time, and I understand what people are going through now. I know how parts are backed up.
AHS sent an electrician out that gave me a hard time and left. And I just took care of myself. But that's the only time. I've had them here a couple of times fixing my dishwasher, my refrigerator. For the most part, they’re all good people. They're solid, appliance people.

GE Appliances came on two occasions. On the first occasion, they said that they were not able to look at the washer. I put in the service request for both the washer and dryer online on the American Home Shield website. So, I assumed that the tech was going to look at both. Moving forward, he did examine the dryer, and he was able to fix the dryer issue. Then, on his return, at the same time he had the part for the dryer, I put in another order and paid the service fee for the technician, the same one, to come back out to examine the washer issue. They had the part shipped to my house. He came back to examine the washer and fix the dryer.
At that point, after he fixed the dryer, he examined the washer and said that I would need a transmission. The part was not available and this was back in July. He said that he'd go ahead and put it in the report. I've dealt with American Home Shield for some time now. I've had a couple of claims, and I got one with a pay-out but normally, it's like an automatic process. Somebody will contact me and come up with a resolution or solution to the issue. Now, I've been waiting for about 30 days or more for someone to contact me in reference to a resolution. I had called on several occasions to inquire about why it is taking so long for my washer to be fixed. So, my experience with this particular matter and my washer being repaired is not good.
I have no response from American Home Shield in reference to the matter of the washer. I have called and made attempts. I have given ample time for this process to come to an end. It's been over 30 days. So, it speaks for itself. My experience, compared to previous experiences with American Home Shield, which has been great, is poor. The people that I have spoken with have been very polite. However, politeness doesn't get the job done. I don't know what's the holdup with AHS getting this matter resolved.

And they went to get the part and came right back. They were there for an hour.
I like American Home Shield. It's getting pricey, though. It's $42 a month. Now, it's almost 60. It's still worth it, but at the same time, there are other companies clearly that are offering something similar, if not the same. And the prospect is still the same. You never look forward to using it, but you're glad it's there. My husband and I work full time, and we don't have the time to DIY everything. So, it's nice to have that there. I tell my friends to haggle because they didn't haggle anymore. But I've already done that with the price of taking off the dishwasher or anything I didn't have that was included. They were able to take it down maybe three or four years ago. But no, can’t take any more off. It won't cover the house anymore. But it's still good to have.

I called and let them know. They came in and they had to get another part. They tried to repair it with that other part. But one day after putting it in, the microwave went out again.
The techs didn't know what they were doing exactly because they had too many people to come out. One guy was speaking in a foreign language to his colleague. He had about three or four guys that came in with him. But the main tech that came out seemed to know what he was doing. But he didn't speak good English so he didn't talk. He didn't give me any information as to what was what.
The contractor would call me when a part would come in then someone would come out. But the parts they put in haven't been sufficient to keep the microwave going. They called and said they were gonna come back out. That's this week and no one has come out. I was dissatisfied. If they know something's wrong with the microwave, they should be able to find it without constantly coming out. If the part that they're putting in there is not working and something else is wrong, something else is making the microwave go out. That's what they have to resolve.
When I first got the coverage with American Home Shield, I thought it was really good because I got new equipment in my home and I needed to have them protected. It sounded good the way they advertised it. The first time something went wrong, they sent one person out and the man came out right away. The other tech that came out to fix my refrigerator got one part and that part worked for a long time. When the techs couldn't do anything with the washing machine, American Home Shield replaced it. But this time, they're just waiting. They have new technicians. I was disappointed this last time with the microwave.

I got a call that I got approved and the next day, the gentlemen were here once they got approved. They were very respectful. They got it done. He explained that it was gonna take about 24 hours, which was actually not even eight hours, I was getting ice. So, that's great.

I had a couple of issues and plumbing was one of them. I called American Home Shield and they set me up with a plumbing company I was going to work with. The technician I had was really good. He came in first and assessed everything. He fixed what he could fix then he had to order some supplies. They sent me a text and he called to let me know when he was coming back out. He came out and he was really professional. He put shoe covers on.
I had American Home Shield some years ago and their technicians were all good then too. The only thing was I was supposed to get reimbursed something toward my oven because I had an oven insert that had to be replaced. Up to today, I've never received that money. That was in 2017. I called a couple of times about the money and they gave me a number to call. I kept calling the number but I never got anything. They should have done what they promised they were going to do. I'm not expecting them to give me the $1,700 I paid for the new oven but they told me they would give me something like $300 toward it. I ended my American Home Shield in 2018 because of that. I signed back up recently because I needed to cover my appliances because I'm a traveling nurse.

American Home Shield is a warranty that I've been having difficulties with because of my furnace. Air Pro recommended a new furnace unit, but American Home Shield said, “No, we're just gonna do the flushing out because the system is clogged.” The first serviceman came and said they are going to try to flush it out then refill it and go from there. But Air Pro said it’s such an old unit and I'm going to always have trouble, which I always have trouble. I've called American Home Shield quite a few times for different things about the furnace but they won't cover a new unit. They also don't cover the full refrigerant. According to the contract, they pay $10 per pound. Now, I owe $1,200 for something that I'd rather put towards a new furnace. My furnace is not working at all, and it's going to be chilly tonight.
American Home Shield has helped me out in the past. They couldn't fix my machine machine so they replaced it and I appreciated that. But right now, I'm not happy at all with their response. I didn't read the whole contract because I don't understand the legality at all. American Home Shield said it was because of normal wear and tear. That's why you have extra insurance because you have normal wear and tear on different units. I feel I'm not covered and not taken care of by them like I was hoping I would be. I pay American Home Shield $75 every month for a special warranty. I pay monthly because if something breaks down, it's covered. I don't think I should pay $1,200.

I had a leak in my washing machine and that was causing standing water in other portions of the house. I logged into my American Home Shield customer portal and I created a service request. This process is easier. It took longer for American Home Shield to authorize the request than for the contractor, Plumbing Solutions, to actually do the work. They came out, diagnosed, and went to get the parts for the diagnosis. Any event that the home warranty company doesn't approve, I would pay the required amount out of pocket. By the time they got the job done an hour and 20 minutes later, American Home Shield had approved it. It was very quick and easy.
My experience with Plumbing Solutions experience was fantastic and was handled perfectly. But my other experience with American Home Shield leaves a huge amount to be desired. I have an open request that I'm very disappointed with the way that it's been handled and I have an open escalation from Tuesday. I was promised a follow-up phone call on Wednesday and I'm still waiting.

I could never talk to a live person when I had an issue. I've called 20 times. AHS had to do this and they got it approved. And every time I called them, I got 10 different people. I never got the same person. And half of them don't speak good English. I had a hard time communicating with people. When I called somebody, they were always from China or Europe, outsourced. I couldn't understand them. And half the people didn't even take notes. That drove me crazy. It took me a year to get my last furnace I got replaced. And it went out during the wintertime when we had the major storm.

In the past I have had good experiences with American Home Shield where my stove burners broke and they had somebody out quick. It's just this latest one isn't so great. I've been waiting for them to complete a service for over a week now and they haven't reached out to me at all nor has the contractor that they supposedly assigned. Family A/C Service was great but for whatever reason, AHS changed the contractor to one that I previously requested not to use because we had a repair that we were getting done with them a couple years ago and they kept not showing up.
I like AHS’ service at times. They're on top of things. It’s just it's inconsistent and I would like to see better communication from them. If there was a good reason for them to change my contractor, it would have been nice if they called me to discuss that. Because while they're providing me with a service, I'm still paying for it, and it's still my house that I have to have people come in. And when you've had bad experiences with contractors, you should not be forced to hire them again.

A ceiling fan in my bedroom randomly stopped working. It's only a couple years old so it shouldn't have been defective and hadn't had a problem till that day. So, we put in a claim to American Home Shield to have a contractor come out. When I did the claim online, the AHS website was great, super easy to use and straightforward. I wish it had been a little more detailed about what the $100 fee covered, because I ended up calling just to check. The one thing that the website didn't have was more information if it could cover the repair and if it's something the tech can do or may involve other visits.
The tech came and it turned out there was something not tightly screwed in and the tech was able to fix the fan and got it working again. It was a relatively easy fix but he figured it out and he checked the other fan in another room to make sure that that was bolted in tightly enough. He listened well and was fast, friendly and fantastic. It was a good service. I'd highly recommend AHS.

I called American Home Shield for my AC that was not cooling properly. Repair people came out, inspected the unit, blew the AC unit with like a duster, and said everything was fine. However, we still had the problem occur that night. We called the next day but the representative didn't answer and we left a voicemail. My AC situation just happened Friday.
I also had another thing with my washer and dryer. Water overflooded in my tank and it did not drain. We were concerned that it could potentially leak into my wood flooring because the washer and dryer are inside. A repair guy came out and he helped me. It was just the insides were dirty so he cleaned them very well. My dryer was the same thing and it was just a matter of cleaning it. They do that because these are HE. Once they get backed up, the repair guy explained to us that the washer isn't going to drain well so it just stops you from continuing to wash. Everything's good.
I also had the American Home Shield look at my fridge because I had them cover a few items. My icemaker wasn't making ice and it was very dusty. But as far as getting the appointment and getting routed to the service provider, everything was done in a timely manner. AHS saves me a lot of money because if I would have had to purchase that part or pay for it to be replaced, it would have cost me a lot more than the monthly warranty payment. I have had a contract with American Home Shield (AHS) since 2011, eleven years now. In those 11 years I have made maybe seven service requests. Most of those service requests resulted in minor repairs. One request did result in the replacement of an appliance, for which AHS's selected 3rd-party contractor was not so honest, to the point of not following the local laws/regulations and charging me for a service they did not perform. I have the documents and emails to backup that claim. And if AHS is still using that contractor after I reported their wrongdoings to AHS years ago, shame on them.
My current service request, initiated July 8th, has been a nightmare. It is an old range top/oven for which AHS has decided to repair instead of replacing, which I know is their option to do. The problem is, AHS has sent a part that does not fit, twice. The following is from the note in my AHS account, "Both times AHS sent part, it was wrong. Received the same parts twice." Also in the notes is, Failure Reason: Normal wear & tear. I have never received any update emails or calls from AHS. I have had to initiate a call to AHS's customer service each time I want an update (July 19th, July 20th, August 18th, and today, September 9th.) Now today I was told a part was ordered from eBay this past Wednesday and should arrive in 5-7 business days. My contract includes the replacement of covered items that cannot be repaired however, AHS has decided to instead let this servicing matter go on for more than two months without resolution.

I have some mixed feelings about AHS. But I was willing to stay because they had not completed my last job. The first one was they replaced a water heater in October of last year, and two weeks ago the water heater was leaking. My garage was filled with water and I had a few damaged items. AHS sent the same company out. I wasn't happy that I had to pay again for them to come out and it was still under warranty. I paid the service fee. I was gonna cancel because I had Sears as well and I was paying the two of them. I was doing some comparisons to find out which was covered, who covered what, and in what detail because once you're locked in, you can't make any changes until your renewal comes around. My renewal time with Sears along with AHS was within 30 days. I was going to either cancel one and put everything on one.
On July 29th, when I called to inquire, the gentleman with AHS made it sound good. He talked me into upgrading from silver to platinum. He said, "You don't have that many requests, so you can pay a higher service fee and a lower monthly rate." I asked him what was covered. I was geared towards my refrigerator. He said all parts are covered under normal wear and tear. I was going to be calling for my refrigerator because my ice maker wasn't working. He said, "It's my advice to you that you would wait until your renewal kicks in then call and make a service call for your refrigerator. If you upgrade to the platinum plan, we have this free HVAC service. You can get it free for one time." I went ahead with it.
I waited until after the 29th to call. I requested the one-time service for my air conditioning because it's hot. The lady told me, "We only have that once a year and that's not until March or April next year." I explained to her what I was told by who I talked to and she said, "No, you have to take advantage of that free option when we're offering it. We only offer it certain times of the year and right now, we're not offering it. Sorry." I told her I was gonna go ahead and place a claim for my refrigerator. I asked her what parts are covered. She said all parts are covered under normal wear and tear. I placed an order and paid the 125. A gentleman came out and wrote on my receipt that I needed a filter and shelves for the door. He told me to call the next day and said, "I'm gonna find out too. If I find out, then I'll call you or you can call."
I waited a couple of days but didn't hear anything from either side. I called American Home Shield and a rep said the claim was not covered because the technician that went out said that it was customer neglect. I asked how did I neglect my refrigerator. She said the filter wasn't changed and it was supposed to be changed every so many months. The shelving wasn't covered because I put too much heavy stuff. She said, "If you want a second opinion, we can send someone else out. But if they say the same thing, then you'll have to pay the 125 again." I was mad. I was trying to reach the contractor but they never returned my call.
I called American Home Shield back and told them I wanted to cancel my service. They got me over to their retention department. I told the rep the story, and he said, "I can reimburse the 125 that you paid." He reimbursed the 125. I said, "Instead of canceling, I'll just go ahead and downgrade because I was talked into upgrading and I'm not getting any benefits. I didn't get that free air conditioner service because I called at the wrong time and I followed the instructions on the best time to call." He was trying to tell me after I make three payments, I can't make any changes. They are quick to take my service fee, but when it comes down to providing the service, they're slow and I get transferred around and hung up on so I would have to start over. On top of that, my refrigerator is worse than what it was. I want to place another order for it, but I gave up.

We've had an issue with our air conditioning, and they were prompt in getting someone else to take care of it. The problem has never been taken care of, but that's not necessarily American Home Shield's fault.
Abilene Comfort has been out on multiple occasions, and our air conditioning unit keeps shutting down. We can always get it to kick back on though. We turn the breaker off then turn it back on and it kicks back on. They call it a zebra, and they can't figure out what is causing it. They replaced the capacitor, then they finally gave up and had an electrician come out. The electrician couldn't find specifically anything, but worked on some wiring. However, the issue has occurred again since then. I opened a call back with American Home Shield, and it went back to the original Abilene AC people, but I never heard back from them again. The timer was not working right on the pool that operates the little vacuum cleaner that cleans out the bottom of the pool. I called American Home Shield about that. Then the fountain was not working either. When the tech came out, he said, “I can't fix the fountain because it's not covered under the policy. It's a water feature. It’s not really part of the pump.” But he fixed the timer. Then he told me that even though he couldn't fix the fountain and bill the insurance, it just needed water. So he unscrewed it and poured water on it. That worked just fine. So, even though he wasn't getting paid for that, he fixed it anyway. What a sweetheart. He was amazing. But I was very dissatisfied dealing with American Home Shield.

The second vendor American Home Shield sent, the Hornet people, was so much better than the very first one. The serviceperson was so polite, approachable and very nice. This is the second time that the Hornet people came over. The first time, they replaced a piece, but it looks like there's something else broken in the refrigerator. It's not just that piece. Now, they've ordered another piece that they're going to replace again and the refrigerator is still damaging all the food. It's been two months, and I've wasted a good $1,000 in food in there. Everything gets frozen. The vegetables don't make it.
The first time American Home Shield sent somebody was on November of last year. I took my time calling them again to request someone else to come over because I was just too busy. I didn't want to deal with it. Also, I'm thinking if I should keep American Home Shield or not. It shouldn't take four visits to fix something. Every time we call to request service, it costs money. It's not just about the money though. It's about the time to fix a problem. If we were to value that time as well, by now, I would have purchased a new refrigerator because it's obvious that thing is not working. I don't understand why it keeps on being delayed. We buy insurances like this because we don't want to go through all of the loops that we get sent into. We just want to solve it.

I was getting a smell out of our gas oven and I called and put in the report, and American Home Shield contacted me back right away. I got the information for the contractor and scheduled the appointment. They came out and it was taken care of on the day they came out. We've used American Home Shield for years and they usually respond on time and the contractors are good. They come out and if they don't have the part on them, the contractor lets you know what he's got to order and when he’ll be back. Then, they notify you and schedule to come back. I have peace of mind with AHS, not worrying about any of the appliances in the house.

Whenever I call AHS, they usually send somebody out to fix the problem. I’ve only had a couple of times where I had to call and have somebody else come out to fix the issue that the first person didn't come out to do. But other than that, they've been good to me. Recently, my garage door, sometimes, when we hit the button to go up, wouldn’t move. When the tech showed up, it started working. So he said that he’d leave the ticket open for 30 days just in case it happened again. It has happened again, but it started working again. I scheduled service and I called the contractor JnJ. I said the issue was the pool pump. My coverage is the most expensive one that American Shield covers and there are a number of things for the pool. One of them says pool pumps. The tech came in the first time a week and a half ago. he was okay and was friendly. He did what he did and he did his assessment. But he only looked at half of the problem. He was called back to it because nothing was touched on the spa, which was the second thing on the to-do list. He didn't even say anything about that.
The tech came back this past Tuesday. When I called the company, I said, “I have a contractor in my backyard that's doing some work. I don't want the pool guy to come because there's just not enough room, and people are moving back there. So, can you please schedule it on another day?” Apparently, that night, I get an estimate on the pool pump for $850 and again, there's nothing said or done on the spa. I said, “Hold on. I have been in this backyard all day, and he did not show up. And you're giving me an estimate, and you're telling me that this and that. I don't like that kind of business." When you start looking at reviews, it's not an uncommon thing that this has happened with this company.
I called American Shield and told them they needed to send somebody else out here. I told them what the company had done. American Home Shield gave me another pool company and they are coming out next week, Monday. They're gonna look at things and we're gonna go from there. This experience aside, Amercian Home Shield is a great service.

The outlet wasn't working and the tech who came out first diagnosed but didn't fix. And American Home Shield went to the second opinion. The tech from L&N Electric diagnosed but had to get approval from AHS to do the actual work. He came back a week later and it worked out great. Every time that I had something break, a contractor came out and fixed it. I didn't have to find one and do any work.
I had a claim for a dryer but it was not something the contractor could do. He told me what he would do and it was a matter of me cleaning the dryer out more often than I did, like putting one of those cleaner things in there once a month instead of once every three. He said that was the problem guaranteed and there was nothing they could do about that. I just got to do it. And since then, it's been great. So other than that, there are no problems at all. I've heard some things from other people that they had AHS and it didn't work out for them. But it's been a no-brainer at this point for me. It's good.

I started noticing that the ice container was not filling up like it used to. When I would pull the flap back up there on the icemaker, there would be pieces of ice stuck in there in the ice maker, and it wasn’t ejecting the ice out. I cleaned it out at first up there. Finally, I decided there was something wrong with the icemaker itself, and that was when I put the claim in to American Home Shield. When the repairman came, he explained to me that the icemaker has a motor in it with these little fingers that spin around on the cycle. After the ice was made, those fingers will spin around and it will knock the ice out. He said what he thought was going on was that the motor in the icemaker was weak, and it wasn't pushing that ice out as it should. So, he replaced that unit with a different unit that had a good motor in it. So far, it's not giving any trouble at all. He's very nice. He's been here before and worked on the ice dispenser. We ordered the parts, which showed up within four days, and they were on site 48 hours after the parts showed up. It took them two hours to get everything fixed. They had to replace spin sensor as well as all the bearings in the unit, because the spin bearings were shot. Overall, it was timely and it went really well.

It pulled the inside of it out and it also broke the hose that has it so it spins. We put the door back in, but it needed to be made sure that when it ran, it didn’t leak. The gentleman who came out did a great job. I was extremely happy. I referred my brother to American Home Shield, and he is also now using them. In the meantime, it was so irritating. The plumbing company was going to be over a week before they could make it there.
The sound was driving me crazy because it was even louder than the first time. So I looked in the back of the toilet and I tried to mash down the little stopper that goes in there. I noticed that the chain on there had come loose from the hook that goes on to the stopper. So when I flush it, the chain wasn't on there. I put my hand in the water and took the little chain and slid it onto the little handle. So when I mashed the handle to flush it, the chain will pull up the little stopper and it will bring that down in there. I fixed it. Then I contacted American Home Shield and let them know to cancel the second order.

The tech came and looked at the freezer. He said, "It's a compressor. I'll call it in and see if they're gonna cover it or if they're just gonna get you a new one." I called back on Friday and asked him, "Have you had any news yet?" Whenever the repair guy came, he said, "With that compressor the way it is, your top is gonna stop working. When I called American Home Shield early Friday morning to see on the ticket, they said, "Oh, it shows on our ticket that they went ahead and ordered you the part. When I woke up last Saturday, my house was flooded. I called AHS and they couldn't get somebody out until Monday, which was fine. The 5 Star company who came out was amazing. The tech said that it wasn't a pipe leak from where the water was coming and that it was an AC leak. He said he was going to transfer my claim over to an AC department and in the meantime, I should put a claim in with my homeowner's insurance, because it looked like I had well over $1,000 in water damage. This was because the flood went to three bedrooms. So, I told him that I'd follow his lead. He got me in contact with a restoration company and they came out. American Home Shield sent someone out to replace some lightbulbs. I had some light switches I needed to get replaced because they were motion sensing, and I just wanted the regular ones. The tech was great. As far as submitting a claim, I always have to call over the phone because I've asked multiple times, but American Home Shield hasn’t updated my online account. The refrigerator wasn't keeping the food cold and I lost all my food. I filed a claim online initially but I ended up calling and speaking to someone. It was fine with the rep I spoke with. Then, Appliance Network came out and the tech was great. The compressor was out and they had to replace the refrigerator because they didn't make that part anymore. I got the same model as replacement.

I purchased our house in June and the house was completely redone. But the main bathroom still had the original sinks and we noticed the drains were very slow, and then it got slower and slower. A tech told me, "Somewhere along the lines, you probably have a clog and it would probably need to be jetted." I had a second bathroom added by a different company. They told me the same thing. I asked him, "What's the cost of it?" The price was just crazy astronomical. I thought, "Wait a minute, with AHS, I'm covered for clogs." I called them up and they said, "Yep, no problem." They immediately got back to me with an email that my company had been assigned.
Monday morning, I got a call from Elevated Plumbing and he set up an appointment. He came out and did a great job. He was very professional, honest, and he told me the price those other guys gave me was in line with what plumbers charge for that kind of work. But he said, "I don't believe that's exactly what you need. I think I know what's wrong." He went into the drains and he said he found two different areas that were plugged and it went into about 25 or 30 feet of the drain system. They work fine now. He said if there was any additional problem, that he would take care of it. I would request the guy again because he was very good. I also used AHS for a microwave that burned out. If I had to pay for it and have it installed, it probably would have been $700 to $800 for that. I also had a stove and they didn't make them anymore. A part went out on it and they could not get parts for that stove. So, they replaced it.

American Home Shield seems like a good idea. And it's gonna work out for me in the long run in my particular situation. This is the first time I took advantage of the warranty. It’s an older condo, so I'm sure things will crop up over time. I'll continue doing it. Because $40 a month is not going to hurt me that bad, even though I am on a fixed income. But I also thought, “What happens if my air conditioning fails?” All of a sudden, I got a $5,000 bill out of pocket. It’s like any insurance. When you need it, you need it.
I filed a claim online. And someone from AHS called back the next day and explained, “This company is going to contact you. If you don't hear from them, call them up at this number.” And the electric people called and they would come out the same day, originally. They called back saying the guy is hung up on another job. And they pushed it out four days. In this case, it wasn't urgent. I just needed to get the data.
I hope AHS doesn’t end up being like some auto insurance I've had in the past. You try to use it, “We'll take care of you, after we drag our feet and make you suffer.” And they jack the rates up. There's less of that going on than 30 years ago. Because all insurance is, is you're betting against yourself. You’re betting there's gonna be a problem. So, peace of mind.

I like the idea that we have a warranty company that supposedly picks up or helps with most things that go wrong around the property and the house. Our dishwasher went out at the time of the pandemic and it was really hard to find. We finally settled on them giving us $501 for replacement. But that wasn't nearly enough money to compensate for the old dishwasher, so we had to add a little bit more to that to get us a new dishwasher. But most of the techs that I've ever been in contact with have been fine. The techs also came out right away for our pool claim recently.

The bottom of the hot water heater was leaking. American Home Shield replaced it. I wasn't happy, because I had a way more expensive water heater, just by the name brand. It was an 80-gallon Bradford White, and they put a 50-gallon Lowe's hot water heater in there. That was the biggest they would go. But I thought it would at least be the same brand equivalent to. My washer wasn't agitating properly. The tech put a new agitator and that was fixed. Also, the dryer wasn't working. He replaced the motor but it still wouldn't work. So, he replaced the timer. But it still wouldn't work. He did tests and from everything he tested, it should have been working. He said there was not another part that he could replace at that point. So, he recommended the dryer to be replaced.
But AHS doesn't believe in replacing. They assigned it to another company for another opinion. The second tech said "Well, it has a new motor and a new timer. So it needs to be replaced.” When I kept calling back, they were saying they need to call their authorization department. Two months later, I got approved to get a new dryer finally. This has ticked me off. I'm looking into changing warranty companies. American Home Shield seemed like they're dragging their feet. It's ridiculous that I've been three months without a dryer.

The customer service when I call the phone number sounds like they’re just reading from a script and not listening. That’s why I preferred the chat because at least I had it in writing. It was a better experience via chat. This was the second time I’ve had to use the warranty since I bought this house. The first time was for our issue with the bathroom. And the experience over the phone is completely different than the experience via chat. When I did it over the phone, it was a lot of back and forth. My work order wasn't done correctly. If I have any issues in the future, I’ll definitely chat versus calling.
I loved the technicians American Home Shield sent. The technicians came the next business day. I put in my chat on a Saturday, and they came on Monday. The tech communicated with me from the time I got my work order. He told me what time he answers. He gave me a window. And the morning of, he texted me. He said, “I'm at the job right before yours. This job should take two hours. And then there's like a 45-minute drive, but I'll text you while I'm getting ready to leave.” So he did that to let me know, “I’m 30 minutes out.”
I couldn’t tell where the leak was coming from, but I could hear the water, and we could see water in the garage. The tech had a little device where he could see where the leak was. He cut a hole in the wall. He pulled out the insulation and he fixed it. He told us what the problem was. I was happy with the work. He cleaned up behind himself, and he left. AHS sent a plumber out to do the plumbing repair, and they sent a different company out to do the repairing of the wall.

Greenway Heating and Cooling came out in a few months back to work on the air conditioner and make sure it was all okay. They put Freon in it. The furnace and the air conditioner are interconnected. There's a condensate pump that pumps water out and puts it into the septic. My husband noticed that he hadn't heard it in a long time running. He went down into the crawlspace and there was some water on the ground. That was why I called American Home Shield most recently. The air conditioning was working fine but it was going to damage the system if we left it.
My husband called Greenway and set up an appointment for Monday. They told us we needed to call American Home Shield. We did and we paid the 100 bucks. The techs that came out said it was bad. They also found out the lines were all plugged. They cleaned the lines out and replaced the condensate pump. Something wasn't hooked up quite right because air conditioning ran but it didn't reduce the humidity in the house and we still didn't hear the thing run except for the first few hours.
I called Greenway and they told us to still call American Home Shield because they won't charge us the other $100. They just need to know about it. The techs came back out a day or two later. It was just a reclogged line and they fixed it. It's running like a dream now. Greenway was very good and they were really honest with us. They were significantly cheaper than the other people too.
American Home Shield has been wonderful too. My only complaint is they are not covering my fireplace. We can't use it because the chimney part needs to be repaired. That aside, American Home Shield has replaced our furnace. My husband and I have decided we're probably going to re-up the home warranty on our own next year.

I had the air conditioner a couple of months earlier repaired because it was not blowing cold air at all. Heat and Air came out and did what they had to do. Then it was stinky. I called them and said, "Something's not right. It's really stinking." So, they came back, ad this time, I would have to pay out of pocket for them to clean, deodorize, and do whatever to it. They tore it all apart and cleaned it. I wasn't happy with the cleaner because he broke a piece of the air conditioner doing it off the slats, and it seemed to work then. A couple of weeks later, my husband and I are here and I had this weird feeling. I went over to get a bone off the back of the TV because we had to put one of our dogs down. When I did, I put my hand on top of the other dog's cage and the pillows on top were soaked. We looked and water was running down my wall from the unit.
So, I called in a claim, and had to pay $100 for them to come out and say, "Well, maybe it was just a defroster, or it was a foggy day, and maybe the drain was clogged or something." The tech flushed it and said, "It seems like everything's okay." I paid the 100 for him to come out and put this part on. Then when he came, he said it didn't need this part and that everything seemed to be working okay, and off he went. So far, there is no more water running down my wall.
The people in American Home Shield are awesome. Since I've had them, I've had refrigerator problems that they have fixed. I've never had a problem with AHS itself. For right now, I'm just about even with American Home Shield, but I like the idea of having insurance on the bigger ticket items, which I haven't needed to use yet. I've called American Home Shield out for little stuff and they've taken care of it with no issues. When the AC wasn't working, the technician came out and looked at it. There was a leak on the evaporator coil and he said it needs to be replaced. There was some mold or algae on the evaporator coil, which is normal on any unit because it's cold and wet, and it evaporates and that's the environment mold lives in. American Home kept saying that the technician for the company that came out said that the leak was due to mold or algae. But the company that came out said they never said that. But American Home kept saying that they said that.
I had the contractor people that came out send me their report and the report never said that the mold or algae contributed to the leak. It did say that it had mold and algae and that that would have to be cleaned before the repairs were done, but nowhere on that report did it say anything that it contributed to the leak. I tried to communicate that with American Home Shield.
One thing I hate is that American Home Shield goes through people that are from a different country. They're taking the call but they really don't understand, and it's hard to communicate with them. But I was trying to tell them. I even sent them a copy of the report. I've talked to four different AC companies here in Victoria and they all said that mold and algae would not contribute to leak. It's not a corrosive material. It's normal. But American Home Shield declined the claim because they said that the leak was because of mold and algae.
I sent the BBB the report that I got. American Home Shield said that they would send out another technician with a different company to get a second opinion, but that never happened. The company that they sent was so shady. The contractor they sent out of Houston came at 7:00 in the evening, which was fine. I was home. The guy looked at it and he was good. He did his job. But the next morning, I had another guy from that company out of Houston trying to sell me a whole brand-new unit.
The contractor stated on the report that the mold and algae have to be removed. But if you're replacing that evaporator coil, you're replacing the whole thing, so it's useless to clean that mold and algae if you're taking it out and putting a new one in there. That was what the other contractors had told me that I called just to get an opinion on it.
When I called the contractor, I said, "Can you please send them an email and say that the mold and algae did not contribute to the leak? I'm not asking you to lie. That's a true statement." They said, "Well, there's nothing we can do about it. They already made their decision." But I told them, "No, they're saying y'all are telling them that the mold and algae contributed and you're telling me y'all are not telling them that. Can you do a three-way email statement?" But they said no. They declined that. I kept going back and forth, and this went on for weeks and I was so frustrated with it. It was a big pain in the butt.

I had American Home Shield’s warranty once before so I said, "I’ll give them another shot at it. They'll be okay.” Worst move I ever made in my life. My air condition stopped working. AHS sent a technician out. First, he said it was an old capacitor. So it started working, but it went out again. So, I called him back out and told him it was not working. He came back out. I told him I have my air condition served twice a year by a qualified technician. When I told him that, it seemed like nobody cared about that issue. AHS didn't care about how things went. It was like a nightmare. After I told them about it, they said it was fixed. I said, "What do you mean by it was fixed? They didn't fix the problem.” It was a game that they were playing with me. That service was so piss poor, it was unreal. I will never use them again.
I’ll put it on Nextdoor to say to the people that American Home Shield warranty is nothing but a rip off. They get your money for two years. And when you have a problem, they send out the worst mechanics they got on there to repair your stuff. And they come in, you pay a service fee, then you gotta pay a $100 deductible. I've been them for five years. I still have to pay a deductible in order to get the service.
And when the people come out, all they want to do is just fix it and leave. My air condition had a noise to it so we couldn't sleep. And they wanted to charge me another service fee. I agreed to it. I said, “Okay. If they come out and don't find anything wrong, then I don't have a problem paying the service fee.” But they didn't even send anyone out to check to see that there was a problem. And I told them, I would pay the service fee if there was a problem and they didn't find anything wrong. They still didn't fix it.

I just moved into this house and didn't replace the locks and wanted to rekey the doors and since my insurance was covering it, Realty Rekey came out and did it. They did a spectacular job. It was very easy to submit the claim. Now, on the other hand, my garage door spring broke at the same time, and that experience was really bad with the garage door company that AHS used. They were a bunch of fraudulent shysters. They came out, my warranty was covering it, and AHS was gonna pay them for the work. However, they made things up, and they wanted to charge me extra fees for adjusting the door. I'm a general contractor and I know the door does not need to be adjusted when you replace the spring.
They wanted to charge me $180 for adjusting the spring. There are two springs. My left spring broke, but the right spring was okay and they said that they were going to replace just the left one. Over time, it's gonna fail. The two springs are not gonna be compatible because they're gonna put a different type of spring. They said, "In two or three weeks, you're gonna have a broken spring again and you need to call us back and pay additional fee for replacing it." I said, "If you know that much, why don't you just replace it now?" He said, "No. If you pay me, I'll replace it. Otherwise, I won't replace it." So, I said, "No, just replace the broken spring. Let's just do that risk." Then, he said, "No, you need to pay me $180 in addition to whatever I'm getting paid from American Home Shield."
In the beginning, he said, "Your spring is not covered by warranty." I had to battle that. I eventually got them to agree that it was covered. The rekey company was great but this garage door company just wanted to get more money out of this and in their notes, they put that the spring that's installed on my door does not comply with the door so that they're clear with American Home Shield.
However, it's a brand-new house and it was set by a warranty company, so it's all within the same system. It's just that they didn't wanna do a job or they want to do the job but they wanted me to pay more and since they wanted to show American Home Shield that they've done something, they couldn't do it because my garage door springs were installed incorrectly. They put that in the notes and they didn't tell me anything. Then they called American Home Shield to complain. The garage door contractor needs to be swapped out with someone else. It's not a good way to do business. As far as American Home Shield, I've had a great experience with them before, and they've done great things for me. It's just this one contractor. I like American Home Shield. I have had experience with a different home warranty provider in the past, and American Home Shield's responsiveness is a little better. The one thing I don't like about them is their propensity to close open service requests when they shouldn't be closed. As soon as the service provider appears and sends a report in, they close it. The last service request I had for my refrigerator, I paid my deductible and the service provider came out and said it was too complicated and beyond his scope. He knows what's wrong and what needs to be done, and he said he would get back to American Home Shield and I would hear back from them. I never did, then when I went back online, the service request is marked as closed. I don't care for that.
I had a problem with the dryer, and the service provider ended up being A&E, which is Sears. I've had an extended warranty with Sears, and there are levels of service providers at Sears. A&E, the one that AHS sent, is their best level of service. So I was impressed I didn't have to go through the nonsense of their poor technicians. That got resolved, no problem. Although, I haven't gotten the reimbursement back yet. It's my refrigerator, freezer, and my oven that are problematic, and they still have not been reconciled.
The refrigerator is an older Sub-Zero model. I've called Sub-Zero before, and they have their own preferred repair people. They said they could send them, but they wouldn't work with any of the home warranty companies. It's a more expensive brand, and so far, it has not been fixed. The oven is Thermador, and the service providers just can't figure it out. American Home Shield has been supportive, and I don't want, necessarily, a replacement. I'd like them to fix what the problem is. They reported back that it has been fixed, then I called and said, "It's not been fixed." They closed the case anyway, and that was frustrating.
Other than that, I don't have any major complaints. American Home Shield sends out quality people. I understand that often, you get new service providers trying to make their own business and that's people that will accept home warranty business. But for whatever reason, the service providers that work with American Home Shield are better than the previous home warranty company I've used.
So far though, I've not gotten any follow up from American Home Shield. When the service providers come in and say something needs to be ordered or done, and they always say. "We will report back to American Home Shield and they will call you back." I've never gotten a call back. I have to chase everything down myself, which is not the end of the world, but it's not particularly good service. It would be different if the service provider said, "You're responsible to track this down. I'll report back to American Home Shield." Although, that doesn't sound like good service either.

The clothes washer was no longer finishing cycles. When the techs came out, they said that there was a piece that needed to be replaced so that it could drain properly. There was a sock stuck in it somehow and it was full of water. They said to get the sock out, it would have caused water to go all over the place, so it was better to replace it. But they didn't have the part and it took about five days for the part to show up. My only thing was that somehow they had the wrong number for me at first, so they may have tried to contact me at first. But I didn't know about my first appointment. Then, I saw on American Home Shield that the part was ordered and the contractor didn't answer the phone much when I called to follow up. But overall, they provided great service and got the job done.

There was smoke coming out of the back of my dryer. The tech knew exactly what it needed and got the part ordered. When it came, I gave them a call to let them know the part was here and he came. I've had AHS for quite a while and they're right on it as far as getting someone to come out. The only problem I have with them is that I wish they would have options as far as which company we would like to work with. I had a company one time that I really don't care to work with again. One other time when I had issues with something and they were the ones that were chosen to come out, I called American Home Shield and said, "No, I need somebody else." Other than that, I recommend AHS wholeheartedly.

The drain in the shower was stopped up. It took a couple of days for the contractor to come out. But once they got there, they got it taken care of right away. So, it was good service. We need that expertise service. So, I depend on American Home Shield to provide that.

For my recent claim with AHS, the refrigerator was not cooling. It took about six days for the techs to come out. There was a fan or some panel that was not working and they replaced it. It's working okay now. I like that with AHS, I can find somebody who can repair things if it goes wrong. But one of my problems is, that if something goes wrong, nobody will come out. They say, "If you call us directly and pay us 30, we can come out today. Otherwise, through the American Home Shield, it will take us a week."

I've only had one claim with American Home Shield, and submitting it was super easy. They didn't cover it, but their service was good. They quickly told me no. Also, the contractor was great. They were knowledgeable, and they came out when they said they would. I liked them. The claim was for a shower leak. AHS ended up having to fetch a plumber and do some rigging because it's got old piping in it that's not even available anymore. The only thing I can do is completely replumb my house, which is about $15,000, and that's not happening anytime soon.

So far, American Home Shield has been good for us. We just got a new washing machine. Lowe's was having a $201 off sale on their washer machine, so I got the eCard. We only paid $175 and some cents for it. American Home Shield has always come and done their due diligence. We also got a new refrigerator and a new microwave.

Prices are too high, there's a recession on, and I'm not gonna renew American Home Shield. It's just out of the ballpark. I bought a house last September, and when I got the house, it had a one year home warranty added on to the mortgage from the previous owner. I just got the bill for what the next year would be and I'm not gonna do it. It's too much.

When our air conditioning broke, American Home Shield contacted a company to come out and fix it. We had 100-degree temperatures that week, and they couldn’t come out for a week, then when they got out here, they had to order parts for us. It was another week, so we were without air conditioning for two weeks in the hottest part of the summer. It was no fun. However, the techs were very nice and good. They got it fixed and everything’s working great now.

When I cancelled AHS the first time, it was because some of the service providers didn't do what they were supposed to do. They told me to buy the part and how to do the job. It wasn't a great service to have. I got it again because, in case something happens I have AHS as a backup. Recently, the AC stopped working and one of the wires was fried. The tech replaced that.

I have a shower that's not working and the gentleman that came out said that it was too expensive for American Home Shield. So, they weren't able to take care of it for me but it still cost me $100. I have a faucet now that's not working in the kitchen, but I’m not ready to pay another 100 for that. I have another claim with them that I had a problem with. I wanted to have the propane heater turned on. It wouldn’t come on. They said that a part had been called obsolete and because of that, they couldn't fix it. I am without a heater now and still had to pay that $100. So, I'm not really happy with that at all.
I didn't see that in the fine print, if there was a part that was obsolete they just wouldn't do it. I talked to other companies, and they didn't think that was right. So, that's more of an issue for me. I do understand this year might be a little more expensive with that propane heater but I really think that one of the reasons we have AHS is to cover things like that. They gave me satisfaction with a refrigerator claim, but they took forever to do it, too.

We moved into the house on the 31st of July and there were problems with the toilet sounding like it was continuing to run. My husband tried to change the flapper in the tank but it was still problematic. He was trying to see if there were problems behind the toilet and maybe if there were problems with water coming down underneath. When he turned the water off, he could still hear something. When he went to try to move the toilet, he discovered it wasn't anchored to the floor. We called American Home Shield to have a plumber come take a look at it. They gave us the contractor Sullivan Handyman and their phone number.
Their plumber communicated with me before the visit and asked questions about what was happening. We explained it to him and he said, "It sounds like you may need to replace the toilet based on what you're describing to me." He got permission to do that and he asked me what model we wanted. If we sent him a picture of it, he could pick it up and bring it with him when he comes. He did that. He was in and out in less than an hour after taking care of everything.
That aside, I also had some difficulties with American Home Shield. My first experience was with the HVAC. The upstairs air conditioning wasn't working so a licensed HVAC person came out. I told him I have American Home Shield and he said I could pay him directly because when he tried to submit invoices to American Home Shield, it took him a while to get money. I can just submit the invoice to the home warranty afterward. I did that but when I called the home warranty, they said I should have called them first. Still, they had me go ahead and send the invoice and they gave me the email to forward the invoice to. I did that and I found out after the fact that the claim was going to be denied. From that perspective, I'm not satisfied with their service.

I had our dishwasher and my refrigerator go out within a week of each other. American Home Shield ended up replacing both of them rather than waiting. In the meantime, it took a while to get the replacement. I ordered it and bought it, and then they reimbursed me. They paid me for the dishwasher and closed the case when there were two claims in one. It took me an extra month to get the money.
