    So far, the service has been good but the billing part is what I don't like. I can't go online and pay my bill. It has to be auto-pay and if I call about my billing, I'm calling some third-world country. I can't deal with anybody here in the United States. I don't feel comfortable giving my information to somebody in some third-world country. Also, when I make a claim, I have to do it online. I'd like to be able to call up. I'm considering changing warranties.

    I was hearing a noise, and I was having an issue with a couple of faucets and the master bedroom shower. There's a lot of sediment in this area and some things were eroding. Something with the valve and the showerhead needed to be fixed. The service people cleaned out something in the sink, but the noise that I was hearing from the basement wasn't there when the gentleman was here the first time to even make the repair. So, unfortunately, we couldn't get to the bottom of that. Everything was good though.

    American Home Shield's app is normally okay with requesting service. Everybody has to use the same options to describe the issues, though, and I had to call in because I could not find an option to describe what I was experiencing. If you’re gonna use the app, it'd be better that they have some way for you to actually provide written detail with what you're hearing as opposed to just having a few options. Even the rep that I talked to was trying to tell me, “Well, it must be this one thing.” I told her, “I don't even know what that thing is to tell you that’s what it is. I'm just telling you what I'm hearing.” Other than that, they did get better with the wait time when you call. The last time I was on hold, it took just maybe five or so minutes. So, that's definitely improved. I appreciate that.

    I had a claim for the dishwasher last year. They charged me for something and I ordered that part. But the dishwasher wasn't working still. Someone came and fixed it but I still had to pay for the part that was ordered. I had to suffer for a week without a dishwasher. Recently, I had an AC claim and there was no issue. I just had to pay the deductible. The contractor was quick to respond. They came within a few hours. The next time, they came the next day. I got good service.

    The GE dryer was squeaking really bad as the bearing went out on it and it wasn't heating properly. Two different individuals came out and they were both very professional. They knew what they were doing and didn't spend a whole lot of time trying to troubleshoot it. The first gentleman who came out took the plug off the machine and looked around in there a little bit. He tried to stop the squeaking there, but he realized that it was because the bearing in the back was bad. So he suggested to replace the bearings because even if he could get it to stop, it would start doing it again. He ordered the parts and when they came in, a different repairman came back about 10 days or so later. He put the parts in quickly and the dryer has been working fine since then.

    Our toilet stopped flushing and it was draining really slow. We called the plumber guys out. It turned out the toilet wasn’t seated properly so that wasn't helping. And the previous owners had left a rag flushing the system. It was all the way down the pipes and finally got clogged up. But the guys were able to fish it out and flush out the line. So, it’s working a lot better. The contractors tolerated my husband sitting and asking them questions like an excited little kid. But they were very open with what they were doing. Any questions that my husband or I had, they answered them in an acceptable manner. And they explained it in a way we would understand. They were very professional and polite.

    I've had American Home Shield since we bought the house last year. The monthly payments aren't bad at all. And this is the first time we've used them. But I like the benefits that are available, even if I haven't used all of them besides their options, like discounts for different appliances if you're ordering new. I also like the fact that they have troubleshooting videos whenever I pick an issue. Before I continue on with my claim, they have a, “If this is your issue, try doing this.” So that way, if it's a stupid, easy fix, I'm not going to waste my money on something I could have done myself, which I don't see a lot with many companies that do that.

    When I had to put in a claim, it took a little while to have an availability. But I understand that's a repair technician availability thing and not necessarily on American Home Shield. I had a tech come out for the AC and it took three weeks to get somebody out there. But the tech did great. He was friendly and he showed up when they said he was going to show up. He diagnosed the problem quickly and it turned out that it was caused by the capacitor and fuse of my condenser.

    American Home Shield declined to pay the claim because they were stating there was an outstanding class action lawsuit against the company, Aspen Series BB evaporator coils. These class action lawsuits that take place, when the units are first installed, I understand. But the unit’s 17 years old. There was no disclaimer when I bought the house about the BB Aspen coils and about there not being coverage that would cover the air conditioning unit should something go wrong. I'm upset about that and I think it's wrong. There has to be a statute of limitations at some point. We have serviced the unit since we've been in the house for five years. This is not about the BB Aspen coil situation. This is simply about the unit being 17 years old and needing to be replaced. But I've had other issues where there were no questions asked. They’d done exactly what we were contracted to do.

    The heating unit was leaking. My wife did the claim and she said it was a fairly simple process. She called it in later in the evening and then the gentleman came out within a couple of days.     The microwave bulb went out. I used it anyway and then the turntable turned but it didn't heat. Three days later, it started working again. The tech said it was probably a short. He changed two switches and it worked for a couple of weeks. But then it wasn't heating again. Working with the AHS rep was fine and the contractor was great. I've also had a claim for an air conditioner that went out and they replaced the coil.

    American Home Shield sent C & M and they said the problem was a burned-out plug. At first, the problem was that my stove was not working. When I first put the claim in, I told them about a stove. When the tech came out, he quickly pulled it out and said, "Nope, not that problem." He said it was an electrical issue. So, I had to call back because I was asking them, "Would I have to pay another $100 for an electrician to come out seeing that he didn't do anything?" Once he put in his diagnosis saying that it didn't have anything to do with the stove, that it was an electrical problem, AHS all changed it and fixed it for me so that they can still come out.

    There were two electrical issues that American Home Shield sent someone out for. There was one where they came in when I first bought the house, and there were outlets that were out. In the second one, which was the latest one, two guys came out. They did a fantastic job. They identified an issue with the backroom and the left side of the house, and they fixed it within 45 minutes. They did a lot more than that. They came in and they checked around to make sure that there weren't any other issues. They were really good guys. Since I've been here with American Home Shield, I've done my claims online. It's a lot easier. It's been pleasant working with American Home Shield.

    American Home Shield has sent out good technicians. This last one was excellent, very professional and efficient. The garage door wasn't working with the opener, and the technician came out right away. I was pleased with that. There was a wire that was broken, and the technician just fixed it. It took five minutes. I like American Home Shield, but I am reevaluating it. I use them out of habit and because it's easy. I just contact them and let them know what's going on. I like the peace of mind of having to be able to call them and not have to find my own technician, but with the premium that it costs a month and then the deductible I still have to pay when they come out, is it worth it in the long run? Otherwise, American Home Shield is good, and I definitely recommend people to them all the time. It’s good for single women.

    My garbage disposal broke. It was leaking and smoke was coming out of it. I spoke to a person from American Home Shield and our interaction was very positive. The person said they would get right on it. I heard from the repair company sooner than 24 hours then they came and looked at my garbage disposal to make sure it was broken, because sometimes it'll leak, but it’s not broken. The tech said this one was broken, so he went right ahead and replaced it.

    AHS is a layaway plan for problems that will eventually happen with my home and my experience with them so far has been as expected. But on occasion, I don't hear from the service company they assign. I would call them and they would be like, "Oh, yeah. We're getting to that." But that did not happen with my recent claim. We had an AC unit that had a bad engaged switch and the claims process went extremely smooth.

    I love American Home Shield and I will recommend them. It's a good company. Whenever I call them, even if I do the claim online, I get a response in no time. They always send me information about who's coming to my house, the name of the company and a number I can call the company if I want to. They always let me know when a person is on their way.

    Recently, there was water underneath the heating system. When you turned it on, it was making a rumbling noise like a washing machine. I woke up in the middle of the night, and it was rumbling. I got up the next day and went to work. When I came home, I was wondering why the house was warm, so I went and turned it back on. My daughter told me not to turn it on. There was something wrong with it. I turned it back on and waited to see what was gonna happen. We waited a few minutes, and it started doing that rumbling so we turned it off.

    I called American Home Shield and told them there was something wrong with my heating system for the air conditioning unit. The repairman who came knew what he was doing. I asked him a question. He explained it. He went right down there, took it apart and checked. There was trash in it. He cleaned it out and put it back together. He checked my air conditioning unit outside to make sure I had enough freon and pressure in it. I had to put a new filter in it ‘cause the filter was dirty. It's been working fine ever since.

    I tell everybody all the time that getting American Home Shield was the smartest thing I ever did. I would have done it a long time ago. As soon as I did, one thing after another had happened. They have been a lifesaver. Recently, Simply Plumbing installed the hot water heater in the middle of a claim for our dryer. When the dryer company came out, they couldn't fix it. It was underneath the crawlspace. My friend went under the crawlspace to fix the dryer vent, and in the process found that leak. It was a broken hot water heater pipe. The contractor was awesome.

    A.R.T. came out and fixed the air conditioner. They put a new thing on the wall and they went upstairs. Something was disconnected somehow and they had to get a new box. So, they put a new box on the wall. They explained everything to me and they were very polite. They were pretty good. As far as American Home Shield, we've had them for a while. Then the house burned. We got them back again after we got our house rebuilt. What I dislike about them is that their customer service is horrible, and they decide what they claim and what they don't, which is like when my washer-dryer had issues, they spent more money trying to fix that washer-dryer than it would have been cheaper to replace it. So, they inconvenienced me the whole time with people coming back and forth to fix it.

    Then, when they fixed the air conditioner the last time, I ended up coming out of pocket for almost the whole job. So, they really didn't pay for anything because they claim they only pay by the pound, which wasn't a part of my contract. I only have them because I'm too lazy to get somebody else. I would not recommend them to anyone.

    We put in a trouble ticket for a refrigerator in our home in DC and the tech had to get his hands on a part to repair the refrigerator. He was coming back out again today and that was okay. We could tolerate that. The delay while he got the part was acceptable because we could recover a lot of those groceries because the refrigerator wouldn't have cooled down that fast. But we got an email yesterday from American Home Shield that because of the COVID situation, people can't get their hands on parts, which I'm tired of hearing about. AHS should be able to get their hands on the parts it needs to repair the kinds of home appliances that we've contracted to have them repair. We have a lot of groceries and we're losing those now. AHS needs to get out and fix the refrigerator today.

    I'm liking the service for the most part. But sometimes, it's tough to get answers. We had a washing machine replaced and I was trying to find out if it was covered. I called and whoever I spoke to couldn't really answer. It was a little frustrating. Eventually, when I got it replaced, they took the old one away and it was fine. So far, AHS has been good.     The condensation unit started leaking water in the garage. American Home Shield gave us who would come, and gave us the company's telephone number. They called and confirmed they would come.     I've used American Home Shield in my last two houses, and they’ve been great. It’s very easy to submit a claim online. I did one for a toilet that just stopped working properly. It was running all the time, so I had to shut it off. American Home Shield gave me all the information online, then the techs came through and the claim was taken care of. This is the second time I’ve used Ferguson, and they always call and let me know ahead of time when they’re gonna be there.

    My master bathroom had a bad faucet. The contract says American Home Shield works on faucets. Techs came in and installed a new faucet. I thought they were gonna change the washers but I got a whole new one, which was fine with me. I had other issues that American Home Shield handled in a timely manner. I had a refrigerator that had a problem, a dryer, and a washing machine. For the dishwasher, the techs had to come back because there was a faulty piece. They didn't charge me an additional charge. American Home Shield has been fine in dealing with the initial contact, the subsequent scheduling, and the actual people that do the work. I've not been disappointed. I'm satisfied with what they're doing.

    Having AHS, I do not have to stress about anything going out and the unexpected cost of that. But sometimes, if it's a busy time of year for certain things, it takes a little bit of time to get somebody out. Our air conditioner went out and the technician couldn't come in for two days. Other than that, the technicians have been fantastic. I've recommended AHS dozens of times to friends and I would recommend it to anybody I could.

    My washing machine was leaking. I made a claim with AHS and the tech who came out was very professional. She's been out at my house before and she's really good at what she does. When I have a claim, I submit it online because it's easier for me. When I talk to their reps, they ask a lot of questions and I have no idea what to answer. Also, when you do it online, there's some kind of system that you can do a little video. AHS is really awesome. Whenever I have an issue, the techs come out timely and they repair it. I've had multiple garage door springs replaced and I've had people replace an electronic component on my refrigerator. The techs also came out and replaced a garbage disposal.

    American Home Shield's service is decent. The clogged sink went well, but not the air conditioner. One part went bad and the company that AHS sent out wanted to do $5,000 worth of work for a $400 part and AHS only wanted to cover the part. So, for me to use their warranty company, I would have had to spend over $4,000 out of pocket for one part. I called and had another company come out and they just replaced the part and my air was fine.     Reaching out to AHS was frustrating. We tried to reach them by phone but there was nothing in their phone menu that allowed you to express that there had been a problem with the previous call. You could only speak to a salesperson or start a new service request and initiate a new service fee, which didn't seem right. I ended up using Twitter to get their attention. But when I spoke with them, everything went smoothly.

    The techs had to come twice. The first time was for our air conditioner system. The cooling pump was working but the house fan was not circulating the cool air. The techs got the house fan working again and that was all fine and well. But once the heatwave ended and we tried to turn off the air conditioner, it wouldn't turn off. So, the techs came again and the problem turned out to be a loose wire that was preventing the off switch from engaging.

    The water heater was the first thing that went out. A repairman put a device on it, but the furnace wouldn't stay lit. This was a furnace that was originally with the house. We had no control over it. He put a device on there and it sounded like it was all good. But then we noticed that the water wasn't getting hot. We called in and told American Home Shield that even though the guy put a new device on there, it was not staying hot. Zach with Tom Melton Plumbing came out and told us the reason why it was not staying lit was because the gas was not going up, and he needed to shut our valve off. He ended up coming back and replacing the furnace.

    Recently, we called in and asked if we could have him or that company serve us for the faucet and the tub. Zach came out and looked at the sink. He told my husband that American Home Shield probably wouldn't cover the sink because of the rope being ripped. It had tape around it. It's a waterproof tape because it was squirting water everywhere. When he went to the tub, he told my husband American Home Shield definitely was not going to cover it because it had a crack.

    When I called and talked to a representative, I said, “I don't understand that you won't fix the faucet and you won't fix to tub. We didn't purposely do any of it.” He said, “It was the way he wrote it up. You can call the company.” I called the company and talked to the manager. He explained the same thing. He said, “He wrote it up and said that you guys damaged the sink, and the tub was improperly put in.” I explained to him that we bought the house and these were the remodels. We had no control over what faucet was put in there and what tub. I called American Home Shield again and asked, “Could you send me somebody else as a second opinion?” Neace came out and explained the faucet has a reputation of tearing in the same spot. When we googled it and looked at it on YouTube, that company had other situations where people were replacing them for that same area. The guy said, “We can replace this but they're not going to replace the tub.”

    When I first was going through this experience, I thought American Home Shield was a zero company. I got the runaround for a whole month about the furnace. We were boiling our water on the stove for a month. But the second time around, it became average. I'm sure it'll get better as they begin calling in and talking to customers. That was one of the recommendations that I made. Instead of waiting for customer complaints so bad, why don't they have somebody check if anything is going on between that service, why it’s still under contract, why it’s still open. I noticed when I made a second call, we were getting those surveys quickly. Maybe they listened enough to say they need to try to do better.

    A bad contractor came in for our AC and didn't know what he was doing. Told me that my Wi-Fi enabled thermostat is not Wi-Fi enabled. I said, "Really? Here's an app. I'm pressing a button. Lo and behold, the temperature drops or increases." Then, he didn't know that some ACs have to drain lines and checked only one. We called four times and I said, "Let's do a second opinion." Because this guy told me it was a problem with the interface, which I know it wasn't.

    But then, that was one part of the problem. They didn't diagnose the fact that the outside unit kept turning off all on itself for another reason. The second company changed the motor. But, I had to call them up again, because they didn't finish the job correctly. It wasn't installed correctly. For some reason, it kept shutting off because the wires were tripping the switch. I wanted to have a third contractor, but AHS wouldn't allow me. They told me, "No, you cannot switch and get another contractor."

    I also had a very good three-quarter horsepower garbage disposal and the contract says, "Only basic garbage disposal." A tech came in and said, "I'm just gonna start installing a new garbage disposal." I said, "Mine was very good. What are you installing?" He said, "1/3 horsepower, not 1/4 horsepower, like half a horsepower." It was worse.

    I called about my hot water heater. The tech checked the circuit breaker and none of the circuits were off. Then he said the hot water heater was having an electrical problem. So, an electrician came but he said it's not an electrical problem. I told AHS that I didn't want the first company back anymore because they were saying that it was going to cost $1,000 to install the water heater. But the first tech came back and something about $1,000 again. I called AHS back and said I needed a second opinion. The tech they sent said the issue was a broken circuit on the inside. He fixed it and now I have hot water.

    The main drain of my AC was clogged, and American Home Shield sent an AC guy out. He said it was a plumbing issue, then a plumber came out and said, “No, it's an AC issue.” AHS said they were gonna transfer it back to the AC guy. Once the AC guy got it, he said, “No. There's no need for me coming out. It's a plumbing issue.” So, American Home Shield sent the plumber out but he couldn't fix it because he didn't have tools to unclog it. The same plumber came back again and attempted to put a rooter down the pipe. It worked for a couple of days.

    American Home Shield wound up sending another person and he said that the PVC pipes were so badly clogged that they needed to be replaced. He showed me where, but he didn't do it. He still put a quick fix, just trying to put solutions to unclog it.I thought this is what insurance was for, but evidently, everybody kept passing the buck. For my mental health, I have to just back up and leave it alone, because I don't take kind to that. I pay for a service through the insurance, and everybody's telling me different things. I can't get to a solid answer. I'm still dealing with my AC leaking from the top of the roof, and I keep having to go in the attic. I also had a plumbing issue, but I just didn't even wanna fool with American Home Shield. I just called the plumber.

    Sometimes I call to submit claims, sometimes I do it over the internet. It works out okay. I have two rental houses and, on one of them, I needed an air condition repair. We had to wait on that because it was a part that they didn't have and it took a while. It took three weeks before that was repaired. The other one was the fan at the other house. They came out and repaired it in a timely fashion. Based on these two experiences with my rental houses, I'm happy with the fact that American Home Shield paid to have a compressor replaced after I just got the warranty, and the compressor was about $2,000. I had to pay $100 for somebody to fix the fan. But on the AC, I got a deal because it was a compressor.

    The AC claim went okay except it was at a hot time of the year. They have a thing on their plan that says within 24 hours, they'll have somebody out. The claim was on a Saturday night and nobody called me on Sunday. Come Monday, I called them and it was a holiday. Finally, they called and they told me that they were gonna have somebody call me. But their contractor never called me. So I had to call them because AHS had given me their number by then. I didn't like that part because of the 24-hour thing. It took a week just to get somebody out.

    When the techs came, they realized that my motor and air conditioning had gone out. They had to send away for it and after that, it still took a week and a half. Other than that, the air conditioner works better than it did before. I've never had a problem with AHS before. They've replaced a refrigerator. They also replaced the panel of my circuit breaker. As far as that, we had no power at all. AHS had somebody out the next day and the techs fixed it.

    I had issues with my dishwasher. Some of the parts were sort of a little broken and it was making a little bit of noise. Appliance Guard Pro came in, and they took the whole thing and they noticed that the top rack was missing wheels. We were really not able to pull the top rack out. He diagnosed that immediately and quickly. Within a week, he got back with new parts and replaced the whole thing. American Home Shield's website is good now. Last year, I had a lot of problems.     My air wasn’t working. There was ice on the outside of the hose. I knew something was wrong so I called AHS. The tech came out and he said it was the Freon. So he put Freon in, but the house never really got cold. The next morning, even though I had turned it on on the inside, it wasn't turning on outside. I called them back. The second tech went outside to see what the problem was. The problem was that the person who first came out turned it off from the outside, and never turned it back on. The first guy that came out did a terrible job. All I had to do was turn it back on and it’s been working.

    The second tech was more detailed and knew what he was doing. He took the water hose and sprayed water on the inside of the condenser, and he cleaned it out for me really well. He said it works better when it’s cleaned out at least once a year. He gave me some general maintenance tips. However with AHS, when I first opened up my membership, it was $50 a month. Now, I’m paying $69. That's a $20 raise. They blame that on inflation. But I think that’s high.

    I've made two calls in three years. It's easy to make a request. American Home Shield has been prompt. Contractors came, they fixed the problem, and "Okay. Great. Cool." Issues have been corrected quickly. My mother has AHS as well, and she said the same thing. She calls with an issue, and unless it's on the weekend, within 48 hours, somebody is there fixing the problem.

    Recently, the outside unit itself was not working, which was the purpose of the claim. It was a blown fuse. I made the request Sunday morning. The guy was here 8:45 Tuesday morning. The turnaround time was very good. The guy replaced the fuse, hung out for a couple of minutes to make sure if I turned it on, some cool air was blowing in my condo. It was, and we were all done.

    We did one year with American Home Shield. The repair people came out quick, but it was difficult to get things fixed. We called for our fridge. One repair company came out. First they told us there was nothing wrong. I told them that my fridge was not keeping temperature. We had a temperature gun and we were able to check it. That was getting up into the 60s, but nothing was done about that. I talked to the guy a lot from the original company before he left. He finally agreed to put in an order for the thermostat and fixed it. Then my freezer started acting crazy. It took like a bunch of service calls. Now, we're finally getting a new fridge. Our first service call was July of 2021, and I was able to finally get it resolved over a year later.

    For the dryer, no one even attempted to fix. I told them it wasn't drying things properly. I thought it might be a heat sensor. They told me to clean it even though I'd done that before I even called it in. A second company came out and the repairman ended up helping us out. It was same with the fridge. Before we called in the fridge, we cleaned the coils and did everything we could that typically makes things not work. We were able to get a couple of new appliances like the fridge and the dishwasher that couldn't be repaired, but it took a long time to get there.

    Overall, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. The guys came today and did the hot water heater job. They seemed to know what they were doing. They were fast and efficient. They did a nice job on the installation but 10 days is unreasonable to be without water. They said it was sourcing the hot water heater that was a problem. But I didn't feel they were being honest because that shouldn't take that long to get a hot water heater. This case was the most important, as far as time was concerned, to get it done quickly. That didn't happen, so I'm a little disappointed with that. The other times that I had issues, that was not a problem. On a couple of locations however, they said that I could do a cash-out if I wanted to get the job done myself, but they couldn't tell me how much that cash-out was gonna be. I can't possibly make a decision if they're not telling me what it is I'm trading.

    Some things American Home Shield will cover, some things they won’t. Sometimes, it takes them 23 days to fix it, like a hot water heater. That was at Christmastime and I spent 23 days with no hot water. But other times, they are right there, right then. My warranty is good enough that I only pay $75 for each thing they come out to fix. I am very good about that because I cannot fix a lot of this stuff that they come out to do. American Home Shield lets me sleep at night that all I have to do is call them and say, “This doesn’t work. You need to come and fix it.” They just sent an electrician out here to fix my dryer. He did a fabulous job. I wish everybody I dealt with was that easy.

    Service-wise, American Home Shield is fine. However, the contacts that they have provided either cannot service me at the times that I need or cannot do Saturday service. They also require that I wait over two weeks for someone to come and see my appliance. Once, the service provider came over and fixed the appliance system, but the machine is still not working properly. I've used American Home Shield twice for the same machine. The first time, it worked fine. It's just the second time, they replaced a part, and I had to wait another seven days for the part. At first, the problem was that the machine was making some noise and struggling to do the wash. Now, there is no sound anymore, but the clothes are coming out still dirty. I haven't called back for that. Maybe I need a new washer.

    The only improvement that I would suggest to American Home Shield is that we don't have to wait up to two weeks for someone to come and just see what's the problem before we get any service. They offer a video review before they come in. However, I work and my schedule hours are late so I wouldn't be home. My mom is currently home, but she's not tech savvy, so she wouldn't know how to conduct a video evaluation.

All I knew was the air conditioning was working fine, and now it's running constantly and then freezing, which, based on my own research, could mean that you're low on refrigerant or that you have a leak someplace.

    Di Dolce, their contractor, came to the house and their technician immediately told me that he was the owner of the company. They went to the basement and took photos. The tech was also by the air conditioning compressor outside and though I didn't see the man hook up the meter to my gas, within 30 seconds, they were like, Oh, you're low on gas. You've got a leak. That's not covered.” If I have a leak in my air conditioning system that moves the coolant around, that sounds like the core of my air conditioning system and for that not to be covered in any way in this top program, I didn't believe it.

    The tech said, “Well, what's your last name? Let me look you up.” But he very quickly came back with, “No, you're not covered. I can add refrigerant to the system. If I added refrigerant to the system, it could cost up to $1,000 and it’s not covered. But this system is really old. You probably should replace it. I'll tell AHS that you need a three-ton unit and we can go outside of that, but that's gonna cost you $7,500. Let me know what you want to do."

    I said, “You're sure this is not covered?” The whole thing gave me a bad vibe and I sent the tech away. I called my uncle who is in the HVAC world and told him what was happening. He said, "These people who come and participate with warranty companies are usually the businesses that are just starting out or they’re businesses that don't have a steady stream of clientele on their own and so they're getting warranty work. You have another hand in the pot so the warranty companies are not paying them really well." I told my uncle the guy's name and he said, "That guy is very slippery. Get him out of your house.” At one point, my uncle had to go to court for a bill collection with that company and the man was taking the court conference calls from jail. I started Googling Di Dolce and 70% of what you see online for reviews starts off as, “Was sent to Dolce from my warranty company, probably warranty scam".

    When I needed a new person to come, with the Di Dolce disaster, AHS needed to constantly try to contact Di Dolce. Then, Di Dolce started to say that they had put gas in my system, and was billing AHS. All the while, it's the summertime and my air conditioner’s running 20 hours a day. AHS isn't gonna kick me back some money for my electric bill this month. I had another contractor come and the tech was here and gone in 15 minutes. He put two pounds of coolant in the system and it was blowing ice chips.

    Other than that, I used AHS in my first year for my furnace because of a high-limit switch that went bad. I was getting cold air through my vents. The techs switched one thing and I have heat again. Also, I've always been able to get somebody on the telephone.

    Our refrigerator stopped being cold. The freezer was working, but the refrigerator part was not. It was getting warm. We called American Home Shield. The tech called us and scheduled an appointment with us. But we also had a lot of doctor’s appointments going on ourselves. So we had to not allow him to come right away because we weren’t gonna be here. But when he ended up coming here, he looked at the refrigerator and pulled out the freezer door. The freezer was on the bottom. We had a double-door ice box on top. He said he thinks he knows what it is. So, he shut the door.

    He also found out that the fan wasn't working that was supposed to deliver the air to the icebox in the freezer. He called and he ordered some parts. However, whoever took his order, to get the parts and delivered to his house, didn’t put the order in. So, it was almost three weeks since we haven’t had an ice box. He came back and finally got the parts in within a week from when he first ordered them.

    But I told him, “It’s making a bad noise in the time it took you guys to get the parts in.” And it was leaking water everywhere. So, he looked at it again. Nobody ever told us to unplug it or not, because at least the freezer was still working. So, we were using it. But at that time, it burned up the compressor because it wasn’t defrosting. It took us over a month before we got a refrigerator. We finally got one delivered three days back. AHS has been good. They raised their price every time we gave them a call for something. But other than that, there’s so much stuff covered under the contract that we have with them. We’re happy with AHS. We would recommend them.

    Royal Flush came out for my AC because it wasn't working right. But the technician kept saying that there wasn’t anything wrong. They came out on the 15th and the 17th. They're also gonna come out on the 31st. It’s a surge issue. Then American Shield sent out another tech and they said the same thing. But everything is burnt. They told me that it was a surge, so they couldn’t fix it. I said, “Wait a minute. Hold on. That’s not what y’all said. Y’all said, ‘If we can repair, we’re gonna fix it.’” That was a lie. They did not and I am not happy with them at all. If anybody asks me about going to American Shield, I will say no. Also, Royal Flush did not do the job that they were supposed to have. Otherwise, they would have found this issue out. I called my insurance and a technician came out and said that it was from wear and tear.

    I get what I pay for with AHS and they are pretty good. But some of the contractors that they hired sucked and AHS should do a better screening of them. I've had some that came out and did not do anything. Also, there are certain plumbers that I've notified AHS not to assign on my jobs. I understand they get paid the service fee, but I've had plumbers that come out and don't even attempt to do the job, then I end up doing the job myself after paying for a service fee.

    We were having a problem with the refrigerator. In the part where you get the water out of the refrigerator, when you push the glass on the rubber part, you had to try to find a spot where it would work. It wasn't working. But I didn't wanna pay $100 just to get that fixed. We also had a problem with the dryer where the dryer just shut off and wouldn't go on at all. I called AHS and since it was the same repair, the lady said, “Yeah. We could send out one person. Pay $100. They'll take care of both products at the same time.” The company finally got in touch with me after five days of submitting the claim and I thought that was way too much. But the man that came was Steven and he was excellent. Every time I've used AHS, they had good people come to my house. I'm happy with them so far.

    AHS still has not resolved the issue with my water heater. I mentioned it to them again when they called me a couple of days ago to invite me to renew my home warranty with them, which expires at the end of the month. They would have someone call me back within 24 hours, but they did not and I am not surprised. I ended up spending $2,200 out of pocket because AHS would not help me to get someone out in a timely manner. The issue with me also is that my water heater must be working because, if it's not working, my heater won't work either. I have a water source heat pump. The first time I ever had to call them was in December between Christmas and New Year's, and then they told me that they could not get someone out until after New Year's, and that was just unacceptable.

    I got someone out the same day to give me a new water heater because that was what they deemed that I needed and it cost me out of pocket $2,200. I asked to speak to a supervisor that day and they would not allow me to do so. I called several times since then to ask for a reimbursement and they would not. I tried calling even the people that help with the sales and the customer service apparently is in the Philippines.

    It seemed like they would just go by the book and they were apparently not trained and they didn't understand enough of what you're dealing with as a homeowner to be able to attempt to empathize, be compassionate, be proactive, be professional, and have good customer service relational skills. They didn't display ownership to try to do what they can do on their end to understand what they need to work with to make something happen when there are roadblocks.

    I asked to speak with a supervisor and I was denied. But he refused to hang up on me, so he kept saying over and over he could not get a supervisor. I just said, "Fine, I'll just put him on mute." He finally said he would get a supervisor after an hour of me just waiting in the line, and then I said, "Okay, fine." But no supervisor ever called me. I got somebody part of their department to call me and that was in the spring and she told me that I should email somebody about what happened.

    When I emailed the regional person, who then got someone from their other US-based customer relations to contact me, then she took care of my AC check for me, complementary. But when I was trying to schedule my AC check, I was going through the phone people and they weren't getting the right people scheduled. They scheduled one person who didn't actually do AC checks, and then we had to try to find someone who did. They came out and did my AC check and it seemed to be decent as far as the vendor. That was good to get that knocked out and that she didn't charge me for it because of me complaining about the water heater issue.

    I had my dryer worked on also after Christmas. They got someone to fix that and that was fine. They also got someone to work on my disposal a few weeks ago and that was fine, too. He was a nice vendor. With my recent claim, I just did it online and it was the plumber. That one worked really well because I did it online only and I got the notification of who it was. I called them to see when they could come out and they said, "Okay, we can come out tomorrow morning." I said, "Yeah, that's great." That worked out fine. These little things that aren't critical, they've done okay with. But the big thing that was the most important and most expensive thing, it was really bad.

    My stove went out and it took between one and two months for the techs to narrow down what was wrong and to do a complete replacement. We’re talking about a cost of $5,000. After that, I had some minor problems, like plumbing, and it would take two to four weeks before anyone would even show up out here to look at them. Then, I had a horrible time with the people who were handling the issue and it took another two weeks for them to fix it. Our last two claims, we had a plumbing issue and one for an electrical which were both were handled within two weeks. So, American Home Shield's current response time is excellent.

    Water was coming up into the kitchen sink and there was clearly a blockage. The first person who came out decided that perhaps the pipe wasn’t big enough and I would need to have the pipe replaced. He went under the house, looked, and said I needed new piping. He said he would put in a claim but it was refused. I was told that the home warranty doesn't cover the replacement of a pipe. But the tech never did anything to try to unclog it. It was back and forth with AHS and the gentleman that I spoke to said they would send somebody out. I asked not to send the same person and he assured me that I would not be charged.

    The gentleman who came out was excellent. He knew exactly what he needed to do, found the problem, and cleared it. I was very pleased with him. But AHS charged me an additional $100 and when I called to complain about it, they said it was an additional call. They tried to justify it and it wasn’t justifiable. They were supposed to reimburse me and I’ve been looking at my bank statements but I haven’t received that reimbursement yet.

    I had a claim before that was concerning an electrician and the gentleman came out to install a light in my hallway and put in a doorbell that would go with the Ring system. He never set up my Ring system. He tried, but it seemed that he had been here longer than he thought he needed to be because he had another appointment. He scheduled me and somebody else very closely together. But prior to these last two experiences, I didn’t have any issues with AHS. Things worked out for me.

    Updated on 10/07/2022: This will be a second review continuing from the first review of no water for 14 days. I have another request for service this time for a range hood. The company in my area no longer wants to work with AHS. This is a reoccurring theme. I’ve had three work orders in the last month. First for my, Well, that ordeal took two weeks without water and sanitation to be resolved.

    The only company that was on the list said they didn’t want to deal with AHS because they will pull every trick to not pay in a timely manner and the process to call on the work request was timely for the company. Also, AHS only covers $1500. for the Pump on the Well. The contractor told me he can’t even get a pump for $1500. Not worth his time. I begged the gentleman to come out and I had to guarantee I would pay anything over what AHS would not. I guess he felt sorry for me not having sanitation for two weeks. He came out, fixed the problem that day. No coverage from AHS, had to pay $1800. that day.

    Second request was for my hot water heater that started leaking onto the floor. Put in request, a plumber came out the next business day. He had to call AHS for authorization to replace the tank. They refused to give him that authorization on that call while at my house ready to put a new tank in. They said they needed to research the tank's issue. The plumber said how difficult it was working with AHS. He said they will find all kinds of excuses to reduce the amount he’s asking to make the repair.

    He told me they will contact me to tell me what they will cover. Sure enough, I got a message from AHS the next day saying I had to pay for extra piping to connect the tank and any building codes updates and they depreciated my tank by $150. The email said I must pay $450 direct to the Plumber before the repair can take place. So I did. Because I needed hot water. Between the $450 and my service fee $125 I’m now $575 out of pocket that in my contract says nothing about depreciation of my old tank or paying for extra code and piping. I looked up the price of purchasing a new tank from a big box company. $575 is three-quarters of the way to a new tank.

    Today I’m fighting with AHS about my range hood fan has gone out. They have assigned the same company twice after confirming this company doesn’t want to and will not work with AHS because of same reasons I’ve stated previously. I’m now on my third call to AHS telling me DISPATCH will find a new company. This is the same song and dance they have given before. At this point, I don’t even think there’s a DISPATCH division. This is AHS way of discouraging you. Everyone I’ve talked to has a script they follow. After as many put you on hold as they can to get you just to hang up and forget about it.

    You can’t speak with a supervisor because there isn’t one, I had one operator tell me a manager would call me in 24 hrs. Never happened, that was week a into no water…. It comes down to they are happy to take your hard-earned money every month but by god, they will pull every stop to not fix or pay a contractor what it cost him or her to fix the problem. I have all the time to run them thru their paces. Hopefully, this info will help the next person trying to simply receive the service they paid for. Or better yet don’t buy a policy with AHS. This company is under the umbrella of a huge Corp.

    Original Review: 10 days ago I requested service for my Well Pump. This Well is my only source of water to my home. American Home Shield requested service from a local Well company. 24 hrs go by no phone call from Well company. I called the Well company with no answer. 48 hrs no water. Called AHS back, they said they would send a message to the Well company and if they don’t call me within 30 min. to call AHS Back. 30 mins no call from Well company. Called AHS back. They wanted to call the Well company again and for me to call back. My answer was no. Asked for another Well company. They assign a new company. 48 hrs later no phone call from new Well company. 6 days no water. Call AHS. Rep says SORRY… I told the Rep my contract says after every party has performed due diligence I could get another contractor. Rep said find a contractor call us back and get authorization.

    My contractor arrives call AHS for authorization. Rep says no I can’t hire my own. I’m now 10 days without water and sanitation. I’ve had AHS for many years and have three policies. Two are for rental properties. Every time I’ve requested service it’s been a battle of wills. I’ve had to fight to get service every time. I had a stove go out. Took them weeks to say it’s not fixable and that they would send me a check to buy a new one after they couldn’t replace with the same type of stove. It wasn’t until a year or more later (lost track) after Front Door bought AHS was a letter sent asking if I’d received my check. I’m sure AHS had to clear all the open money and service request before the sale could be finished.

    I’m familiar with Front Door good company. I was hoping things would change for the better but sadly not. In the mean time 10 days no water waiting for a manager to call to resolve the issue. As far as I’m concerned I’ve waited and performed my due diligence they are in violation of their contract with me. I asked to talk to a Manager, I was told no. Not until they receive a form from the Rep telling them the problem. Still waiting.

    My dishwasher wasn't washing the dishes. I couldn't get the top drawer and the bottom drawer to turn on. I called American Home Shield on Tuesday and they called me on Friday afternoon to see how the service was when the techs came. I said they haven't even shown up, much less called me. I called back on Monday and the girl said there was a mix-up and they had lost our claim. Techs came Monday or Tuesday of this week. They said the vent of the dyer was crinkled up too much. We needed to get a harder pipe that didn't crinkle up to let more air in. They also said that we needed to clean out the dishwasher drain. We were to use vinegar to try to clean the build-up on the dishwasher off. They said it was maintenance.

    Another time we used the service was for the refrigerator we bought down here in 2010 in South Carolina that was terrible. The ice maker froze up over and over. We're paying $75 every time techs came out. In 2021, American Home Shield finally said they would give me $1,500 or $1,000 toward a new refrigerator. That was a positive. It didn't pay for a new refrigerator, but it was a big chunk of it.

    Originally, I got American Home Shield to help protect my HVAC system if it ever went out. But I ended up buying my own because the unit never went out. It just wasn't working well so the claim didn't work. All in all, American Home Shield has gotten very expensive and I don't recommend it. When we first started, it was $30-something a month. '95 was a long time ago but it's going up in October to $100-something a month.

    We were looking at the different plans that American Home Shield had, and we decided to call and look into it. We talked to the representative, and she was real good. She broke everything down, told us what each plan was, how much and what they covered, and what to expect. My wife and I liked it so we decided to try it. The repair guy came out and checked everything, and he was real professional. I told him that before he came out, I got someone else that came by and looked at it. He said it had something to do with the ductwork and that was another team that does that. Other than that, everything was good. I’d tell people that American Home Shield is reliable and very professional. When we call, they respond quickly. People don't have to sit and wait.

    I've had good luck with almost everything. I had one not so great technician, but everyone else with them has been outstanding. American Home Shield is beneficial for small claims.     The dishwasher wasn't working. When I made the claim with American Home Shield, they sent me a link for a call. The rep wanted to see the serial number at the machine. And she wanted to know exactly what was wrong. So, I answered all of those questions with her. When Sears finally called me, they didn't have any of the information. So, I had to do all of that over again. It's not huge, but it was annoying. Also, the contractor was backed up to a week. And by the time they could have come, we were on vacation. So it took a little longer for them to get there, but it wasn't their fault. They were quick. And the tech did great. They had it up and running that same day. So far, AHS has done everything they said that they would do, and we’re happy with it.

    I'm liking American Home Shield's service. The only concern I have is I recently put in a repair to come and get my icemaker fixed, but I haven't heard anything.     We had a septic tank issue and they called a contractor out to take a look at it. They said the issue was not covered by the warranty and it's going to cost $3,500 to replace the pump. I'm not too happy with the contractor of choice on that. We had another contractor come out and they said it's my pump switch or float switch. $200 and the septic tank now works fine. Then I had another issue with my dishwasher and they dispatched an appliance tech that came out and said they're gonna have to replace parts in the bottom. They ordered them but it'll be a week until they get here. The ability to talk to someone at American Home Shield would be fantastic versus having to do everything through the portal, though. I understand they're trying to reduce cost and automate things, but being able to talk to someone and in a timely manner would be fantastic.

    So far, American Home Shield has been good. It's easy to put the service orders in. However, if a contractor comes out and can't see the problem quickly, then they just give up and say, “If it happens again, just give me a call.” There have been a couple of times that I've had to call a plumber out the first time and they couldn't figure out what the problem was. Then I've had to call them because the problem kept occurring. They had to come out a second time. I wasn't happy about that.

    One of the items for which they came over for was water coming out somewhere downstairs. The young man who came out was very knowledgeable, but he couldn't help me. He told me there was a stoppage down there and it might have been a waterproofing issue. I called the waterproofing company. They gave me an estimate and told me it looked more like a plumbing problem. I got tired of calling the American Home Shield to bring out the plumber over and over, so I just hired my own independent plumber. He came and was able to put a snake in the drain and unplug it. It sucked because I had to pay to have my plumber.

    I'm not so happy with American Home Shield. I was on the phone with them last week and I was on the phone with them again today. I had a service call for my dishwasher. The contractor wasn’t able to repair it so AHS did a voucher to replace it. Which was all fine and good, but when it got delivered, the company just dropped it off and left. My husband had to take it into the house alone. My husband couldn't even communicate with them. None of them spoke English. He wasn't sure what was happening but they gave him paperwork to sign so he did. The dishwasher was supposed to have been installed, the old one taken away and AHS would get somebody to come finish the job and install it. The lady at the company that delivered for American Home Shield said that AHS knew that. But when I called American Home Shield, they said they didn't know that.

    I'm getting no actual help and I still have a big old dishwasher that's not working, sitting in the middle of my kitchen. It's rather frustrating. So I'm not sure if they're ever gonna finish this or not. But eventually, I'm gonna have to pay more money out of my own pocket to get somebody else to come and finish installing it, because American Home Shield seems to have dropped the ball.

    I've had coverage with AHS since I bought the house. It was initially part of the sale and I continued the service and kept renewing it. The first year, they came out and did an air conditioning repair right after we moved in, and that went well. That may have been the only thing I ever used them for. But I've been paying for the coverage just in case something big was to go. So, we decided to file a claim when our dishwasher started leaking all over the floor and we've been very disappointed this time around. I'd like to give AHS a chance to still make this right. They keep telling me they're still working on it but they couldn't line anybody up by now. I'm being shuffled around and it's been a lot of hassle and uncertainty.

So, I called American Shield back and they said I was going to have to pay another $100. But I said I wasn't going to pay that because I already paid my $100 deductible.     I've had American Home Shield for several years. I had another company that I was insured with for several years, and one of my ceiling fans went out in my bedroom. I called them in to come and fix it, and the young man who came said that it was due to manhandling. I called and asked him, "Well, how do you manhandle a ceiling fan? I'm five feet tall. And my husband is deceased. So I definitely didn't get up there and swing on it in something sexy. So how do I manhandle a ceiling fan?" I just called an electrician and he came out and put a new fan in. He said the motor had burned out. I canceled the other company and started looking for insurance places to get another home warranty for appliances. American Home Shield had a lot of stars, so I said, "Okay. I'll try them."

    I was just about to cancel American Home Shield when Infinity came out here and said that the issue with my AC was due to pet urine. I talked to Coach Heating and Air, and they told me that Infinity says that a lot about homes when they go out to fix it that it's because of pet urine. They also mentioned that Infinity and Shield work together on that part. I told the man from Infinity I was not satisfied with what he said. I also told Shield that. My air conditioner has been working fine. It's 26 years old, and it probably should have been replaced because it's so old. Infinity called me on the phone for an appointment, and I told the guy, "If you're gonna come out here and say it's from pet urine that a dog I had 15 years ago did, I don't need you to come out."

    The man totally got crazy with me. He just started talking, “I have pictures. And if anybody puts coolant in there, they're an idiot.” I never want him to come to my house to fix anything 'cause he was very rude and nasty. I called American Home Shield back and told them, "Cancel it. I don't want them coming out here." American Home Shield's agent said, "Well, we can send someone else for a second opinion." It was Rose Heating and Air. When they came out, it was 100 degrees outside and the young man worked his heart out. He fixed the air conditioning unit then the fan wasn't turning in the air conditioner, and I didn't even know that. It also needed coolant in it.

    The young man put a new fan in and some coolant, and he did some other little things in there. 'Cause PG had it hooked up to a smart thing. He took that off, and it's working perfectly now. However, we were several days without air conditioning. In fact, I had to leave the house 'cause that's when we had that tremendous heat wave. The house was 90 something degrees inside, so it took it a whole day to get to the point to where it started cooling the house down. I thought something was still wrong with the AC, but then finally, the temperature started going down in the house. Rose Heating and Air did a great job.

    I have various houses that I have American Home Shield. In my property in Inglewood, I have tenants that live there. They let me know that there was a plumbing problem and it was about a week old. I contacted American Home Shield and they were able to get someone there the next day. The lines were backed up and needed to be cleared out.

    A benefit to having a home warranty is having someone to call and being able to fix any problem that's within the warranty immediately at a fair price. The only thing with American Home Shield is they don't have an app and this makes it a little bit more difficult to submit a claim. You have to send your claim through a website. I had difficulty being able to sign into the website and making my claim there so I had to call American Home Shield directly, which wasn't the best. In the end, they were able to help me. But going through that whole process was a little time-consuming. If they are able to get an app or fix their website to make sure that there's no setback, I would recommend them all the time.

    I originally called in June because I noticed that my system was not cooling properly. Comfort Masters said that I had a Freon leak and they needed to order parts. Fast forward to two months later, the Freon leak got worse and we're still waiting for parts and I've had no update. I called American Home Shield to see what the status was on the parts. It looked like that the parts had just been ordered the week prior when originally, it was two months gone since Comfort Masters had come. I asked AHS if they could fill it up with Freon as a temporary fix just to get me through until the system had been repaired. It got authorized and they were able to call Atlantic HVAC and they topped me off. It needed about five pounds of Freon.

    AHS is a good company. I can usually get ahold of a live person. If not live, I can always request to have a callback, which is nice. They also follow through. Their customer service has been good. They put a Band-Aid on my system to get me through summer so I was really appreciative of that. It took several calls and some people didn't quite speak English very well. It was hard. There was a language barrier. But somebody always called me back. One time I called after hours and they had a supervisor call me the next day. I would recommend them.

    So far, I'm getting good service out of American Home Shield. Everything goes up, that's one negative part about it. Also, sometimes, it's hard to get a technician out when you want a technician out. Then a lot of them don't work on the weekends. So, you gotta wait until Monday, until they come to work and then route you out. That could be time-consuming if it's gonna take three to five days for them to come out. I've had that happen with the air conditioner situation, so I had to call American Home Shield back and ask them to cancel that contractor and to try to find me another contractor that could come out a lot sooner.

    For my recent claim, the air condition guy said that he thought I may have a plumbing issue. But I didn't have a plumbing issue. I called him back out here because the AC wasn't getting cool. He said that the float was on it up top, and I guess that may be the reason why he thought that it was a plumbing issue. They came out pretty quickly. I appreciated that. The air conditioning guy just wanted to be more safe than sorry about the plumbing issue. I'm really not mad at him. I'm just glad it didn't cost me any extra money for the plumber to come and check to make sure.

    The company they assigned my claim to gave me a schedule for after a week. I said okay and I was waiting for the technician but they called me to say that the tech was sick and couldn't come. I asked them to send me another technician and they said no and extended for a week. So I called AHS and AHS sent another company. JED Plumbing and their tech fixed the issue. When we request claims, most contractors give us a week. But if the toilet's not working, it's not safe to stay a week. They have to prioritize the issue and they have to respond on time.

    The AC unit was blowing out the circuit breaker. We called the United Air Temp because they have a contract with us for maintenance and when we had the option from AHS of choosing who we wanted to use, we chose them. They came out, took a look at it, and came to the conclusion that the circuit breaker itself was the issue, not the air conditioning unit. So they ordered a new circuit breaker and put it in. Now, it's 90 degrees out and it's 72 inside the house, so the AC is working pretty well.

    My garbage disposal wouldn't turn on and the techs replaced it. I also had an issue with the spa in my bathroom where I couldn't turn the water on and off. The techs replaced that and everything went well. But I was thinking about switching warranty companies because a couple of times, I've had AHS's contractors out and I've had to call them back again. The techs come with a screwdriver in their pocket.The tech who fixed my dishwasher took a pocket knife out and hit the spring. I said, “I'm paying $75 for you to come out here and do that?” And he said, “Well, let me know if the same thing happens after that”. Other than that, the last couple of claims have been okay.

    I'm sure there are some other programs out there but I don't have the time to go shopping and I'm pretty loyal. AHS reduced my copay though and that's a really good thing. The warranty has been worth it. They've also replaced my pool pump.

    BA DIstributing was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They were able to fix the problem without issue and didn't have to come back. So, I was very pleased. I was with American Home Shield in the past, and they had been the ones routed out to me at that time. It was the same exact experience. So, at the end of the day, if I file a claim, I hope they're the one that gets the algorithm to be the one to come to work on our service. Because they are probably one of the best companies that I've had experience with going through AHS. I had a bad experience with another. It was not timely, and it was not communicated very well. But BA has always been awesome. Everything else has been positive and great.

    I filed the claim by phone. Because when I do it on the internet, it tends to be whenever the contractor could get around to it, and I don't like that. That was important to me because my basement was flooding out. The lady from American Home Shield that did it made sure someone came out the next day, because I called that day. That was awesome. Someone came out. It made noise but at least it wasn't flooding. I was able to clean all that up before that got nasty.

    The contractor came out the first time and unclogged it. It worked but it kept making these weird noises. I called them up and said, “It's making all these noises. When it was clogged up, it didn't make noises. Why is it making noises then?” And he said, “It should work itself out. It shouldn’t stay like that.” The next day, it didn't work itself out. So, I called AHS and they asked the contractor to come back out. So they came back out, and he put that stick down there again. It stopped making that noise. And he told us if it happens again, it must be the water heater, because it's a hole in the basement where the air conditioned water and water heater came in.

    I like All Clear Plumbing, because I'm the one who inquired them. And the only reason I did is because a lot of times, they would send some of the top plumbers out to you, and they fix the problem just like that. And every now and again, you would get somebody there to come out, new. Sometimes, they’re not all 100% sure themselves.

    This is my only real first call with anybody this year. My call has been nothing expensive, like a little clog I had on my tub. AHS fixed that. And they did the one in my basement. But they went up a whole $40. Any reason for that? That’s a lot of money. It went from $60 to $80. Now 100 and some dollars. It's a $40 jump. That's big for me. I have to call them and see what’s up.

    I like American Home Shield a lot because they have good vendors. But it changed over the years. And maybe because they don't have many customers. I get people that's from another country. So where it would take a call 20 minutes, I might be on the phone 45 minutes because I make sure I understand what they're saying, and that they understand what I'm saying. And they talk fast. One time I had to hang up because the lady got on my nerves so bad that I just called it off ad said, "Let me hang up call again and keep my fingers crossed I get someone in United States," because I don't know if they sent calls out to other countries, because companies do that when they get big. That's my only downfall with them.

    The international people is just too much. They can't speak clear English. And my English is broken up. I’m Southern. And when I keep explaining, “Excuse me? What did say? Can you repeat that?” you get a little gratitude because they end up saying that a couple of times. If you have to use International, that's fine. But make sure they know how to speak proper English so I can understand. If it was a senior citizen, they’re not going to understand. It’s bad enough they can barely hear sometimes, but then you have broken up language. That's a disaster.

    I’ve recommended over 10 people, and they have purchased into AHS and they told me they like it. And we have our little meetings. Breaking the barrier of the language is so far is one of the things they have problems with. AHSis one of the best insurance people. But if they can just put more better speaking language people, they’re perfectly fine to me. I've been with them off and on in years and there's no company like them because they have the best vendors.

    I did a claim for the downstairs AC unit at 8 o'clock at night. I got a confirmation that they received the claim shortly afterwards and they came out in 24 hours. The repairman had to go get a part, but he was able to diagnose it and had it fixed within an half hour after he got back with the correct parts. I've had others that American Home Shield doesn't cover though. They could add irrigation support.

    Recently, my clothes washer was not draining. The tech diagnosed the problem. And he made sure no water went on the floor. He cleaned up. And he was done within a half-hour. When I first started out, American Home Shield used to use name brand technicians to come out. Now, they don't. They would send Sears out. And Sears is not in business. But they would send out people who I knew. I didn't know who Angels were. I had to look them up on a laptop to find out who they were. But since I pay for the service monthly, I don't have to worry about unexpected repairs.

    We turned on the AC in the morning when we were going out on the water, but when we came home, we noticed that there was no cool air in the house. It was hotter inside than it was outside.     The first time the plumbers came, they were able to get the work done. They explained to me everything that they did. I was really impressed by their level of follow-through while I wasn't present. I wanted to bring them back for that. I specifically requested for them to come back and I got good service. The two guys they sent worked really well together. They fixed the stoppage on the sink.

    Having AHS hasn't been a perfect experience. For my AC claim, a part was missing and it took a long time to get that. I was left to communicate with the service provider. We weren't getting good updates and they weren't consistent between AHS and the service provider. That was pretty painful. But when it comes to plumbing, I've had a really good experience with them.

    Having a home warranty stabilizes your expenses so there's not a lot of variation. You keep all of your things that need to be maintained, maintained, and repaired without huge costs. You're able to anticipate how much you're gonna be spending in a month with respect to maintenance. Also, you know you're not gonna be spending more than $100.

    Claims representatives, including supervisors, are incompetent, do not treat urgent matters as urgent, often arrogant, and most importantly - do not resolve the issue. Our problem started with a drain leak that was leaking into the walls and ceilings. We called American Home Shield (AHS) and opened an urgent request to fix the problem. The first contractor was dispatched 4 days later and told us over the phone he cannot fix this problem. After hours on the phone with the AHS another contractor was assigned. The second contractor also declined to fix the problem, citing he doesn't do this kind of work.

    Hours and hours on the phone with different departments, including supervisors, escalation department, sales (with the hope to be transferred to the right department) we keep getting assigned contractors that are unable to help. Our request to get an authorization for an outside contractor has been declined, despite the policy's term that an 'outside vendor may be authorized in case AHS cannot fix the issue'. Very disappointed in the unfair treatment. We are Platinum Shield customers - the most expensive service AHS offers.

    I’ve got two AC units, and the capacitors in both of them had gone out. It’s difficult to submit claims, because the wait time is extremely long. And online, it doesn't let you get specific enough. So, even online, I always require the conversation after the fact. But the gentleman fixed the ACs very quickly, and cleaned up behind himself. It was an excellent job. Any major appliance issues, American Home Shield takes care of it for the most part. They’re the best of the options.

    However, the premium has gone up. I wasn’t appreciative of that part from when I first started. But I understand inflation, I'm good with that. Second, the customer service rep, understanding the policies, I’m still going through an issue now with them. I asked about ductwork, if that was covered in my policy. And they told me no. I talked to an air conditioning guy about what I would need to do. I went out and looked at my policy, and it said ductwork was covered. So, I’m unsure where I am on this. Because I don't want to pay for something that's covered.

    AHS wants to do online chat but old-school folks like myself are used to phone calls and human interaction. Sometimes, calling them is a problem. They have an 800 number but the faster responses are for new sales. When it comes to responding to a call, I have to go through hoops to get that response. I was on hold once for over an hour. Customer service is definitely something they can improve on.

    Other than that, the service is automated and AHS is pretty quick. The warranty is good to have. If something breaks down, I know I can call if I have a warranty company. We had issues with a dishwasher and the pump for the air conditioning unit. AHS sent us the information of the vendor. Usually, they respond the same day. They are very clean and efficient. I'd keep using AHS.

    I was using the dishwasher and I noticed it would not dry the dishes and sometimes I had to rewash my dishes 'cause they were dirty. I called AHS and they sent a guy out. He opened the switchboard panel, and that was it and left. He said, "It's the switchboard panel." He didn't test it, didn't run it. I called and they told me that he said that there was a bug in the switchboard panel. He said there was some infestation. There was no bug in there. I was upset because he didn't even test the machine. He didn't run it so he could see what I was talking about. The rep said, "Ma'am, we can give you a second opinion." I said, "Okay, I would like that. Is it gonna cost me another $100?" He said, "No." I said, "Okay. But send somebody different."

    Amin came out. He called me, we set a date and he came. He tested the dishwasher and said, "The thing is not spinning. This is not functioning." So, he jumbled with it to see. He said, "You have good water flow, but let's check something else." He went under the sink because it wasn't draining all the water. He opened the pipe. He took what was attached to the thing.

    He was asking for a bucket. He ran it again and some dirty water came out that seemed to be stuck in that hose and he said, "The water's not going out. It's not pushing out the water." He told me to plug in the garbage disposal because the plug underneath the sink didn't work. He said to me, "If one thing doesn't work, the other won't work properly." He said, "Your dishwasher is not working properly, but you need to get that fixed, and then we go from there. You have to get the garbage disposal checked. You have to put in a request." I said, "Okay." He was very thorough and professional.

    The process was good. It was easy and quick. So everything worked out fine. But the technician was not so great at first because when they came out, they fixed it, but as soon as they left, instead of our house cooling, it was getting hot. They don't work on the weekend so we were burning up the whole weekend. We had some of the air conditioners we were using before, so we put those in the window. On Monday, as soon as we called them and we told them what was wrong, they came back and fixed it immediately. Having American Home Shield is so convenient. If you need something, you just go in the app and put in the claim. Then they assign you a contractor immediately and the contractor will contact you ASAP.     When we bought this house four years ago, we wanted American Home Shield. We've been very satisfied and extremely happy with them. The dishwasher's control panel was messed up and the gentleman that came out wanted to argue about it. He said it's not broken. I said, "It's not working. Every time we tried to do it, it won't work." The control board under there, most of the things were not working and he just wanted to argue. So, I said, "It's not gonna work. You gotta get a new control board. Once these things go bad, they're bad." I told him to send somebody else out here because he was not doing the job. He was not capable of fixing it because it was broken. I wouldn't use him again. Somebody else came out and he could not have been any more pleasant. Fixed the thing and it works perfect. When he came out and tried it, he said, "You're exactly right. This thing is not gonna work." When he changed out the circuit board, it worked like a charm.

    I was without a refrigerator for three weeks, and two weeks of that was on Lowe's. American Home Shield got me what I needed right away, but Lowe's hired a third-party delivery company, and it was a nightmare. The first time they came out, they said the refrigerator I ordered was too big and I said, "Okay, that's fine." So, I went out and purchased another one. When they came out, they said, "Well, your existing refrigerator's too big to get out the house." I said, "Well, that's odd because it's in the house, so we know it got in the house." Long story short, I wound up paying another company to come and remove the refrigerator the same day, then I had to pay someone else to connect the water line to the refrigerator.

    Having a home warranty is good for me because it eliminates me having to find a repairman to fix something. I can just contact American Home Shield and they'll send somebody out. It's a convenience, especially when you're living alone or if you just don't like the hassle of looking for a third party, and so far, all the technicians they've sent out are very professional. I love and recommend American Home Shield. The only reason why I gave them a 4 is my contract is coming up for renewal and the price is changing, but I didn't add anything.

    National Platinum Service came out for the microwave. They ordered the part twice. It was the wrong part. Then they said they had to replace the whole microwave. I got it approved. However, the guy only comes out on one day and I don't agree with that. If I'm not available that one day, then I don't get it done until weeks later when I am available on the one day that he says he can come out.     We've had a lot of luck with American Home Shield and we appreciate them. We had an AC issue and it was handled. The AC company came over immediately, handled things and there was no problem at all. This last time though, our double oven went out and they can't replace it. They're not available anymore and there's nothing American Home Shield can do about it. The contractor for our oven has been great. It's just they can't get parts. It's terrible right now all around and there's nobody to blame. I hope nothing else breaks ‘cause you can't get anything anymore.

    We haven't had an oven for a long time, but right now, we've got it settled that we're going to have to buy a slide-in, then they would reimburse us. However, getting a slide-in means we're going to have to change our cabinets. It's a mess, and the double ovens they do have are too expensive. They're up in thousands now. That's the only problem that we've had. Up until then, everything American Home Shield has done for us, including the plumbing and the washing machine, has been good. We're very satisfied with them. We've had them for 12 years and will continue with them.

    The only problem I had with American Home Shield was this time when I called about one of my toilets. When the young lady came out, she installed the wrong piece, she said. Because whatever it was, it started leaking. I called AHS back. And they wanted to charge me another $100 for her to come back out. I told them, “No way because I'm quite sure that was good for at least 30 days.” The lady said, “That’d be another $100.” So, I told them that I would cancel before I pay another $100 fee. I couldn’t understand why the lady at AHS told me it would be another $100 fee. I just paid. And it was the first time I used them.

    AHS called the tech. She came back out four days later because it was during the holidays. She told me it was the type of toilet that I had. The part that she had put on it did not work correctly. So, she had to go out to buy the part that goes on that toilet. She explained to me about what had happened. And she was very apologetic. She had called the office and they were able to figure out why that part was not working. I understand things happen. Other than that, I haven't had any problem with AHS. I think I've used them about three times. I would keep them.

    We’ve had American Home Shield for quite a while. The most recent experience with our microwave has been frustrating. Ultimate Appliance came out and looked at the microwave and it wouldn't heat at all.     I think very highly of American Home Shield. Their service is excellent. We love them. They've been super prompt. They send out people who have everything they need in the truck. They've fixed stuff on the spot. They leave with it fixed. I'm real pleased. But we did have one bad experience with a provider when we had an air conditioning failure. It was very strange because the thermometer just went black and I'd never seen that. It would run for a minute and then the whole system would shut down. American Home Shield sent out the guy. I wasn't there when he came out but he told my wife that we've got a wiring problem buried under the concrete that he couldn't solve and he was going to tell American Home Shield to send out an electrician.

    I talked to American Home Shield on the phone a couple of days later. Meanwhile, we're in the hottest heat wave ever. It was 114 degrees and not even cooling off at night. The American Home Shield rep told me that the guy told them there was a thermostat buried under the concrete that he couldn't get to. No one puts a thermostat under the concrete. The American Home Shield guy said, “Well, if I send out another air guy, you're gonna pay another deductible if we come up with the same problem.” I said, “I tell you, send out another air guy, you can't come up with the same problem.”

    American Home Shield sent out Tempest. That was the second time we saw Arthur. He fixed our other unit through American Home Shield in a minute. I was talking to him on the phone trying to explain the problem to him because I figured this was sort of a weird problem. Within 30 seconds, he said, “I know what it is. I'll have it fixed in a minute.” I told him, “No, no, I want to finish talking about it.” He said, “No, I know what it is. I'm gonna have it fixed in a minute. Yeah, I know what it is. I'm gonna have it fixed in a minute. It's in your attic.” So he showed up at the door and he asked my wife, “Where's your attic?” He walked up into the attic, got it fixed in a minute, and he left. Tempest is genius. You should put a halo on those guys and send them in where you want. Those guys are as good as it gets. But we were without air for 10 days in a brutal period of time. Luckily, I had a freestanding unit that kept us living through the thing.

    I used to live in California and I was with American Home Shield there and they pissed me off. If I have premium things in my home that I'm insuring, when they go to repair them, they want to repair them with the basic. In subsequent years, they've added where it's like a replacement. I'm expecting them, if there's a problem, that they would replace it with like kind. They didn't do that for me. But they started to change their policies and I felt better about it, so I came back. I've had good experiences with them.

    Recently, one of the thermostat zones wasn't coming on when it's supposed to. It would say it's 80 degrees in the room when I have the thermostat set at 77. The tech told me what he though the problem was and what the solution should be. But he had to submit his paperwork to the company and they would say yay or nay. The contractor got another appointment to come back and repair the issue.

    I've been happy with American Home Shield. It gives me great peace of mind. I never feel like I'm getting upsold. The repair people who come are gonna get paid to fix the job. I had an HVAC problem and the repair guys for American Home Shield couldn't come out for three days. It was a holiday. I called these guys I used at my old house and they said, "It looks like it's the motor. If you're going to do the motor, you might want to do the unit.” The repairman through American Home Shield came out and said, “It's just this little piece. Let me just replace it.” I asked how much would that be if it wasn't through American Home Shield. He said is was $200. This other company I'd been using was trying to talk me into getting a whole new unit for many thousands of dollars.

    The most recent claim was the toilet that when you flushed, some mechanism in the tank was spewing water up. The plumber came out fast. He was here 10 minutes, replaced the pieces in the toilet, and there's no problem now. His name's Jody, and he works for B.B. Lewis. He's the plumber who usually comes out. The owners come out as well. Jody's fantastic. We love him coming out.

    I had an issue with my hot water heater. It was a Friday night when it started. They couldn't send anyone out till Monday because their repair people don't work on weekends. For something that's an emergency like a water heater spewing water, there should be an emergency backup company who can come out and do at least basic maintenance to stop the leak.

    Our AC was not working anymore. The furnace was frozen and it was not blowing cold air. The tech went and tried to put some Freon but it still didn't work because he said they don't make those anymore. The furnace is off because he said it was getting dangerous because the one in the basement had carbon monoxide. So, he turned everything off. I got a text saying AHS approved the service estimate and to contact the contractor directly to schedule a follow-up appointment. The claim is not moving as fast as it's supposed to. But they're doing their job. It's just slow.

    I'm gonna be canceling American Home Shield. I'm not happy with them. Their prices have gotten outrageous compared to other home warranty companies. I've already been able to figure out what I can move to and the service call would be $40 cheaper. That's huge. I have an undercounter icemaker that I thought I had a problem with. American Home Shield said they don't cover that. It seems about half of what I want them to cover, they don't cover, yet I bought their premium contract.

    Recently, I had some refrigerator issues and an icemaker issue. Because of the wording in my contract, I put in the refrigerator issue then I called and said, “I'm also having a problem with my icemaker. I know it would be an appliance technician coming out. Can we add that?” They said absolutely and added it on to the ticket. I was very clear to say it's an undercounter icemaker. I called them back to make sure that it was gonna be covered. They said it would be covered. I talked to them one more time then they said they don't cover that. They wound up canceling my whole order for my refrigerator. It was a mess. My refrigerator got fixed. But it was not without them saying I had to send the parts back.

    I'm not happy with American Home Shield. I kept two contracts. I have one for myself and one for my mother's home. I cancelled hers. I don't know why hers had gone up to $99 and mine's $77. I don't like the fact that I have to pay $75 for service fee and $77 a month for the service. Also, when someone comes out, I'm always having an issue. Someone has to come back and I don't get the same company back to fix whatever they may not have done.

    I have an HVAC unit that has been in my home that's going on 18 years. They're just patching. I keep having issues with the system every summer. Every year, from the first year I moved in, I've had issues with the HVAC. That shouldn't be happening. I had to put out $1,500 for them to even fix it, which was too much money for me. I just retired in June and I'm on a fixed budget. Then the air went out last month and it took two weeks before I got somebody to come out. The first time the guy came out, he said he replaced something and it would take about 10 minutes. I saw a motor in his hand. Then I had to call them back the same day. He said, “Your air should be working in a couple of hours." But the air never worked so I called back. It's been inconvenient that we had to stay in hotels which they don't reimburse.

    The cold water wasn't turning on in my guest bathroom tub faucet. I called American Home Shield and had to wait on hold for 15 minutes. They're quite busy and they don't have a lot of techs. They have trouble with their online request submission so I could never get through. I kept reporting it. They kept saying somebody from IT was supposed to get ahold of me to fix it, but I never heard from anybody. They're saying it's now fixed, but I haven't tried it yet. But as soon as I put in the claim, they sent me a text to let me know that a provider had been chosen and that it was Swat Plumbing. They let me know their phone number too. I had the visit scheduled then I had an issue that I couldn't make the appointment and had to reschedule it. I just called their number and it was fine.

    On the day of the appointment, the guy came to the door, introduced himself, came in, saw the problem, went out to get a couple of tools and fixed it within 10 minutes. He said that there was some gunk clogging it so that it wasn't able to pull out the valve to let the water flow. As far as getting service, you get service. However, sometimes, it takes a little while depending on the contractor needed. It may take a couple of days before they call you to schedule something.

    I've been disappointed in a couple of things. American Home Shield didn't wanna cover a pipe. It was clogging up the pipes inside. The problem was a root was blocking right outside. It was beyond the foundation, and they refused to cover it from there. I ended up having to pay for it. It cost me about $1,000 to get that fixed. After that, it's been fine. They've taken care of stuff. It's just some of their contractors take a while to figure it out. I had my freezer that had quit making ice for a little bit, and it took the contractor three or four visits before they figured it out. I had to keep calling because after they said it was working, it quit working.

    There was an issue with the garbage disposal. It was not grinding. American Home Shield sent someone out quickly to get it resolved, and it was resolved within minutes. The repairman was very prompt. It was a very pleasant experience. I've done two other claims for the refrigerator icemaker and for oven. They should still be open because we're waiting on a part for the oven as well as for the refrigerator. They were supposed to be changing out the icemaker as well as changing out the display on the oven top because the clock where you can see the temperature is messed up. But American Home Shield has been great. I like the service. The only thing that could be improved is being able to get status updates about how things are going. I received one status update for the icemaker and the oven, but I hadn't gotten anything else back since then. A little bit more communication would be great.

    There was water leaking inside the house and also from the spigot outside. My water bill was extraordinary because of that. AHS told me who my claim was assigned to and that contractor would be contacting me. I got another text after that said between what hours they would be arriving. They showed up the techs started on the leak inside first. It was a bathtub leak that was a little bit old and they fixed it.     When my pool pump stopped working, I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. The vendor got ahold of me, and they took their sweet time getting out to me the first time, but the repair man got out to me and fixed a part. When he left, the pump was working, but a few days later, I was hearing some screeching sounds coming from the pump. I am my own pool person, and when I did my normal maintenance of the pool, I could not get the pump to turn back over. So, I went back on the American Home Shield website and asked for a follow-up visit.

    Again, the vendor took their sweet time coming out, which was the only thing that I have negative to say about them. Otherwise, they're fantastic. This time, a different gentleman came out. He found a leak in the pump and repaired the leak. Ultimately, he ended up getting the pump to turn over and work again and it was no longer making the screeching noise. We're brand new to American Home Shield, and this was the first time that I needed to use it. So far, I'm super impressed at how easy it is to get on their portal and initiate the claim and then to reopen it when something wasn't totally perfect the first time.     American Home Shield has always been very responsive for me. I'm happy with the service. I like the convenience of being able to call them and they know the specialists to come. I get a prompt response and I am getting what I'm paying for. The moment I think that it stops being cost-effective, I may choose not to renew. But for the moment, I've been satisfied.

    In the first year, I used American Home Shield enough times that I thought it would be worthwhile for me to do it again. We had an air person come out twice. We had a plumber come three times. The plumbers and the people that have done appliance repairs have been fantastic. The so-so guy was the electrician, but it's tough to find good work these days in terms of speed. But that's not American Home Shield. That's the contractor’s fault.

    There was one time that I got upset. I thought that when we signed up, I had paid for some extra services that included roof repair and electric repair. There was also an add-on septic system repair. When the time came for me to get a septic repair, it turned out I was not covered. When you do the add-on services, you should get a confirmation email of what you have. But I never received an email of what I signed up for. It turned out I never did that. I got upset thinking I had services when I didn't. I know I'm paying a little bit extra, but there's no breakdown in the receipt. If I have a question, it's not easy all the time to get to a person especially now that they have the automated system.

    I originally made a claim for a repair of an air conditioning unit. I was given a contractor who was two hours away. The contractor never contacted me. I was given a second contractor who was in the same city. When I researched him on the internet, he was not licensed to repair air conditioning. They never called me for repair either.

    The third contractor they gave me did call and came out for a repair. But AHS charged me another $100. I had to fight to get the $100 back because they were trying to charge me again for the same repair. I just went to my credit card and had it reversed. The repairman got parts, but then they weren't adaptable to my unit. AHS said they would order the parts. But they weren’t the same parts. They didn't fit.

    The contractor asked permission to replace the unit. They wanted me to pay $895 towards it or I could get a check, which is what I asked for. After the second contractor didn't show up, and the third contractor was having trouble, I asked, "Can't you just give me the money and I will get it repaired?" The reimbursement took three months. And the meantime, I'm working from home, so I can't leave and I have no air conditioning. It was 90 degrees in my house. I don't have any windows here that would take a window air conditioner. I finally ended up purchasing a portable air conditioning unit, which cost me $400. I suffered from heat edema and exhaustion and I couldn't sleep.

    When the air conditioner was not putting cold air, the contracting company that came out did great but I was not happy with American Home Shield. The last few things that I called American Home Shield for have been the air conditioner and the water heater and so many of the things are not covered. It would take about 10 days to get the part in. When they couldn't get the part in, they said that since the local companies said they could get the part, then we had to pay for it. So we're ready to drop American Home Shield. Their service is not like it used to be. The contractors are great, but they're working against American Home Shield because they won't cover stuff. We used to support them wholeheartedly because of what they were doing and we put money in it every month. But now, by the time we pay the monthly, it's not even worth it for us.

    The light and the fan stopped working. American Home Shield said they would be sending somebody out. The tech was very professional. I was in there when he was working on it. He had to take it completely apart. He said he found loose connections in there, and he was able to get it back working. Everything is working fine right now.

    Everything is dependent on the person that American Home Shield has to fix the issue. In the case of the pool area, it's always the Pool & Spa people, and they're very efficient. But when it comes to boilers, and sometimes air conditioners, not so much. The kitchen appliance people are terrible. When American Home Shield sends these guys, they never have parts that almost everybody would have on the truck. So it would appear as if they were milking it so they could come back twice. Once to look at it and once to put the parts in. But if it was away from American Home Shield, they'd have the parts right in the truck. It seems like they always have a reason to come back for something simple. I could see if it was something complicated. But when it comes to something that's very simple, they always try and come back and milk it.

    When it comes to plumbing, American Home Shield once sent me a plumber that wanted $3,000. American Home Shield said, “Well, we only cover a certain amount here, and the plumber wants $3,000 so you're gonna have to write out a check for 2,200." This was a couple of years and I said, "Well, never mind.” I got my own guy, paid $500, and it was done. So American Home Shield needs to police the integrity of the people that they use a little more.

    Anything that needs repairing, from air conditioning to heat to plumbing, I call up AHS and they've been good. I go online when I put in clams, I get a call within hours, and then the contractor sets an appointment. One of the vents wasn't working properly and AC repair and Service Pro came out in about three days. They were very good and professional and they took care of the problem.

    Great if you have something quick and easy to repair, but not worth the time and stress to wait for them to get around to your repair. The calls go overseas and it is very difficult to understand most people who answer the phone. Most technicians hang up on you after the call before you can leave feedback. There is constant go around and you never really get an answer you need. The warranty company itself does not offer any sort of survey so you cannot give any feedback. You cannot talk to anyone other than the call center with their scripted answers.

    Perhaps Hawaii does not have the best contractors to choose from, but to get a technician to assess and/or repair within a reasonable timeframe is impossible. Contract states that a fridge is an essential household appliance, but when ours went out, it took 4 weeks to get repaired. They blamed lack of technician availability on being in a pandemic, but when I said I was in a pandemic too and losing breast milk due to lack of proper temperature control, that didn't matter. Instead of purchasing a new fridge, like contract states, they insisted on repairing it for a second time.

    When we had an unknown water leak, they sent a contractor who was not capable of doing leak detection. We waited a full week for them to assign someone actually qualified, and then they called me and spoke with the most condescending tone. They spoke as if it was a privilege for me to have this great opportunity to do their job for them and find a plumber myself. Then I had to have my contractor call them, wait on hold for an hour to get "approved to work" and they refused to cover any work done. Lost days waiting for both parties to share the information needed. Buyer beware, not worth the service.

    The ice and water dispenser didn't function. I filed a claim with AHS and the repairman replaced a circuit board and a mechanism in the door and it worked fine for seven days. But, the same thing happened again. There was no dispenser, no water or ice. I called them again and they sent the same guy out. He said, "A loose wire." He fixed it. It worked for a couple of weeks but then it stopped again. The tech was competent. He seemed to know what he was doing. He was a very quiet gentleman and he went about his business. I felt really comfortable that he was here working on my refrigerator because of that. It just didn't stay fixed.

    I contacted AHS and they sent out someone totally different that said that it needed a water valve and they ordered the parts. It's going to be another two weeks before the part comes in and they can come back. AHS has been good and reliable. However, sometimes it's slow in getting a technician out here, but I understand that technicians are busy. Also, I filed one claim for a device in the garage that some mice had gotten into and they said they weren't responsible for that. But for the most part, they've been responsive.

    The first time the guy from Pride Mechanical came out, it was almost 9 o’clock at night. He ended up changing the valve that goes with the water heater, because he said that was what was leaking. A week and a half later, it started leaking again. When Pride Mechanical came out, it was nighttime again. I’m single, so it made me nervous. The guy said, “You need a new water heater.” He went into how much money it was gonna cost me, and I said, “Okay, that’s a lot.” He said he was gonna send us to the company. He talked about all these modifications that I would need to have, so I said, “Okay, I need time to make a decision,” but the next day, they were already calling. “You need to make a decision right now.”

    It was constant calling, and I was being seriously pressured to make a quick decision, when I have a home warranty who’s supposed to do this for me. It didn’t seem like Pride Mechanical was going through the company. They were coming directly to me. “You’re gonna have to pay $900 out of pocket, you’re gonna have to pay this.” At that point, I was already stressed out because the water was leaking through the ceiling. Also, with the guy's tone of voice and because it was at night, I told the American Home Shield rep, “I’m sorry, I’m afraid. I don’t want this guy to come back to my home. And I don't like the way he's talking to me. I've seen other complaints, but this is too much for a single woman with two kids. No, he can't come back.”

    I didn't know I was supposed to shut off the water to the water heater, and the guy from Pride Mechanical didn’t even offer to shut it off. The way the pipes are, the water leaked downstairs, but because he didn’t shut off the water, it leaked more. I expected a repairman to know what’s supposed to be done. So, that was on me, and I had to call somebody. I have a friend who knows someone who works on water heaters. Also, when moving in, I met some plumbers. So, they directed me to someone else, and I ended up paying out of pocket. I also had a ceiling patched, which I had to pay for.

    When I called American Home Shield, the girl who helped me from the reimbursement department went above and beyond. She really helped to calm me down and get the situation resolved. They reimbursed me some of the money for the water heater, but they said they couldn't reimburse me for the ceiling patch. Recently, I just had issues with the AC, and the people that American Home Shield sent out for that can come again because they were awesome. I thought the AC was leaking, but the tech said it was just the condensation.

    We had the refrigerator go out. We had to have a new compressor put on the refrigerator. It took about two weeks for them to get around to fixing it. We were living out of a cooler in the meantime. American Home Shield did not get back with the service provider to give them authorization to go ahead and buy the compressor. So we had to call American Home Shield and remind them that we were sitting over here waiting. But everything's good.     A home warranty is a practical thing to have when you've got tenants living in the house and if there's anything that goes wrong. We had a peculiar situation on the first floor where the AC is and water started to come down. The techs got there quickly and the tech was knowledgeable. He was able to identify that it was the line that was blocked. He gave us the correct diagnosis which is to get a plumber to get that line checked.

    We had an issue with one of the prior vendors that had come out through American Home Shield. We didn't appreciate the way they conducted business. We had to, unfortunately, put in another service call for that same issue because we wanted a different vendor. We didn't want that same vendor to come out. So, AHS was able to get somebody out, but we still had to pay the fee for a brand-new ticket, which is a little disappointing. It's still out of pocket just because I didn't want to go with someone who I didn't feel was a good vendor, but the second vendor they sent was fabulous. The first one that came in prior to them was not good. They did a temporary fix and we had the same issue happen again. Overall, having AHS has been cost-effective. The replacement we just had on the AC unit would have cost us a lot of money and it probably made up for that this year.

    We've had American Home Shield for eight years, and it has gone up a bit in price over that time frame. But their service is good for the most part.     I have American Home Shield for several houses. As far as reupping on it, it's 50/50. I'm not the biggest fan ‘cause it takes too long to get people out, especially with air conditioners that I have in Tulsa. I can't sit and wait a week to get somebody to respond when it's hot. I ended up hiring somebody else to come out right away. On the claim in Las Vegas, it took a while for the repairman to get to the house. But other than that, he gave good service. The part would have cost some money. I saved money, even though I had to wait two weeks. Part of it was the repairman had to order a part.

    The AC just quit cooling. I called American Home Shield to let them know. They sent Absolute Refrigeration. They were excellent. They've been out several times, so they knew the unit. They had it fixed and done within 15 minutes and they were out the door. The service I had prior to that on a claim was not so great. For three months, I was without water because AHS kept telling me they were trying to find someone. Then they told me that I could find my own person and then be reimbursed. I found my own person and it cost me $3,100. AHS couldn't reimburse me because they had to approve them. Also, they said they could cover my roof. When I called in the claim on my roof, then they told me because I had a metal roof, it couldn't be done. I said, “Have been paying for this the whole time because y'all told me y'all could.” I was not happy at all and I was wanting to cancel.

    Three things went out at the house at once. The washer had an issue with the ball bearings that were in it. My stovetop had a break in one of the knobs that completely broke off. My icemaker had stopped working and we hadn't been able to get it working for months. I called American Home Shield and they said, "We have one company that can do all of that. We'll have them give you a call and it'll just be the $100 service charge.”

    The repairman called me the next day and told me he was gonna come out. He came out and said, “I should have an estimate for you and an approval on that in 24 hours.” He called me back early the next day and said, “You've been approved for everything to be repaired. When would you like me to come?” I asked, “When can you be there?” He said, “I can be there the day after tomorrow.” He showed up and was extremely professional. He was also very informative about other things that I should know about those particular products that I owned, the manufacturers, and what to expect. I was shocked that all I had to pay was that $100 service fee.

    I was in the middle of a very stressful situation and the renewal came up on my email. I didn't have a chance to respond to it, and I thought I lost them. But they called me and said, “We saw you didn't respond to your renewal. Just wanted to give you a call to see if you did want to renew your policy. There would be no lapse in it. It would just continue.” I told them to do that and they renewed it.

    While I had them on the phone, I said, “I've got a small plumbing issue. The plumber that I had to look at it wanted to go through the wall and replace all the piping and it was gonna be $750. I just want the handle replaced.” They said, “No problem. We'll have somebody call you.” They called me in two hours and they were there the next day. The plumber was so sweet, very professional, and on time. I told them that my sister had passed away and that I was in the middle of doing the funeral arrangements. I asked if they could come in the morning, and he was there. One hour later, he was walking out and didn't have to drill through the wall. It was fixed. I'm a happy customer.

    I like American Home Shield for the most part. It was helpful when our microwave died and we had to have some faucets replaced. The people were great and the claims were processed well. The billing has been fine too. I ran into one incident with one of the staff when I was calling to see what was included on my policy. We have one of those built-in microwaves and I was inquiring if that was on my policy or if that was something that we would have to pay for out of pocket. She never answered that question. She kept reiterating the process, that I'd have to pay money to have someone come out, it'd have to go through a committee, and this and that. That was a bit frustrating. She wasn't very kind. She was scared that she might get in trouble if she said that something was covered and was not but they should know what's in their different policy packages and be able to pull it up and see what's included on there. Then American Home Shield had a supervisor call. He was kind. He handled it well.

    I also ran into a lot of problems with billing. I went through a lot of circles with that when I first got American Home Shield. I was very close to cancelling the service because they had overcharged me. They owed me a refund and I went through circles trying to get that. But in terms of the actual service, the supervisor was great. Things were ordered, and the products were nice. I'm happy with that. I'll keep the service.

    A socket had a shortage in one part of it and a plug had to be changed. The tech that came was fine. He's been out here before for something else. So far, American Home Shield's service has been good. Even though I don't use the home warranty that often, it's cost-effective when I do have to use it because it could cost more if I had to bring out an electrician myself.

    There was a time when my air conditioning went out and being in Houston, Texas during the summer months, that was not fun. There wasn't a shortage of anything then. It was just three or four days before the technicians got to get the installation done. It would be good if American Home Shield could provide a place where you can stay during that time period.

    My dryer stopped working. The heating coil got really, really bright red, and then it shut down. I went online to American Home Shield to put in a claim and then they assigned it to a contractor. I contacted the contractor twice. But they never called me back. So American Home Shield reassigned it to Hi-Tech and they were great. They contacted me. I gave them the model and serial number of my dryer. Then they came and they had the parts with them. They replaced the heating coil and the sensor. They were done in about 30 minutes. It was easy and efficient. I'm very satisfied.

    The air conditioning unit went out, and I put in the claim with American Home Shield. They sent out Crown Temperature. When they came, they said that the fan was broken and that it couldn't be repaired. So they suggested replacement. I asked what all comes with the replacement and the tech said it’s literally just removing the old unit and installing a new unit. I asked those questions and he wrote it up and had me sign the work order that said, “Replace unit and coil. No other work needed.” He said, “You'll hear from AHS in a couple of days. And then we'll come back out and we'll fix it.” What they submitted to American Home Shield was so much more detailed than the work order. I felt as though what we discussed and what I had signed were totally different from the submission.

    I told American Home Shield that it was almost written up in a way to knock me out of being covered under my warranty. So they said that all of these installments and modifications were needed, and I didn't agree. So AHS said, “Well, you can have another diagnostic. But if they come back with the same thing, then you'll have to pay.” I said, “I don't disagree with the diagnostic. I do think it needs to be replaced. I just disagree that all of these modifications are needed.” So I had Home Depot come out and they said, “No, you don't need modifications. It’s literally removing this unit and putting in a new unit." I tried to submit that to AHS. But they said no and that it wouldn't really matter.

    I had a third company come out and do an estimate, and they said the same thing, “You don't need all of these drain pipes and things and modifications that they wrote up.” So I tried to fight that with American Home Shield, and the only thing they said they would be willing to do was to pay a buyout. They'll give me cash of $1,300, which was significantly lower than what the cost would be to replace that unit. So I stopped fighting for it.

Airmax was really good in that they kept you posted on when they were gonna get there and how long it was gonna take. Once the tech got there, he introduced himself that he was from Airmax, then he proceeded to look at the unit.

    With the two claims I've made so far, the vendors were very professional. They explained what they were doing. There's a ring that helps my washing machine door close but we didn't know how to put it in ourselves. We were trying but it kept popping out and the door wasn't closing. The tech was quick and professional. He took five minutes and fixed it. Although I'm paying a monthly fee to American Home Shield, I still have to pay $100 every time I have a claim. But they are saving me thousands of dollars. If I call a plumber, I have to pay $400 for them to do a simple job. But with AHS, I just pay $100. I'm happy with the service so far, both from the vendors and from American Home Shield.

    American Home Shield is very good. I used them for my microwave. They sent somebody who fixed the problem. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable. This is the second time I used them. The first time went well, too. I like that when I have a problem in my home, I just call American Home Shield and they will send somebody to fix it for me.
