The air conditioner didn't have any power coming to it. Submitting a claim for it to American Home Shield was very good. I did it online. The contractor came within the allotted time that he said he would, and he fixed the problem in about 10 minutes. Since the repair, the AC has been good. So far, my overall experience with AHS has been so good.

Every time I submit a claim to American Home Shield, it's taken care of quickly. I've never had a problem with them so far. When my heater quit working, I placed a claim online. Their website was good. I was told that a tech was going to be coming out. The next morning, I got a call from the Oasis. They've been out here before and they're very personable. They were on time and fixed the problem. It's always been a good experience with them. As far as the heater, I haven't had a problem since the repair, and we've had this snow and ice. It's been working good.

There were two areas in the home where the roof had leaked. Mountain Star Roofing was supposed to come out and patch up those leaks. We had our appointment scheduled for January 16th of this year 2026, and I advised that I wanted to be at home when the service was completed to ensure that they patched the right area of the roof. Without communicating with me, they did not go to that January 16th appointment. Instead, they showed up on January the 14th when I was at work. The pictures that they sent me of their completed work did not correspond to where the leaks were inside the house.
I advised them of this, and their owner on the phone indicated that he would have some people come out on January 19th to fix that to my satisfaction. I said that was great because January 19th is the only day I have off because I'm a teacher and that's a holiday. However, nobody showed up to that January 19th appointment. Until 4:30 in the afternoon, one man came, I showed him the areas, didn't do anything else, and just left. It was very peculiar to me. I waited all day because they said they would be here between 8:00 to 10:00. And here at 4:30, this guy came and said, "Okay. Great. That there. Okay. Bye." I advised him of this. I called and texted the company all day long with no response. Their office manager told me, "I can't even get ahold of Randy. He's not even responding to my text and calls. He's on another high priority construction job."
That told me, "You're not a priority. That's where he's at. He told you he was gonna come out and he didn't go.” He said he never said he would come. But through AHS, that appointment is scheduled in their system and there's no way that I could have done that. He knew he would come out between 8:00 to 10:30, but he couldn't make it because he had this other job. He left me hanging all day with no communication again.
Now, he says that the work is done, all work has been completed, that has been approved and paid for. I kept telling him, "You are taking money and you did not do the job that you were paid to do. You're basically getting paid to do not the job that you were paid to do.” I was treated horribly for no good reason. He came out early. They did come out on January the 14th. Had they did it correctly, it would have been wonderful, but they didn't. And they started treating me like I did something wrong because I was upset that they didn't come out on the right day and they didn't get the right areas.
This other adjuster who came out from Mountain Star Roofing asked if he could inspect my roof. He told me, "They didn't finish the job. They didn't do it. I'm gonna tell my boss this." But when Randy communicated with me, he said, "Oh, no. Pete just made recommendations on what you should do going forward. It's not that we didn't finish the work." They do this double talk. Randy doesn't have integrity. He lies straight to your face on the phone. That's why I started saying, "You know what? All of our communications need to be via email so that I have it in writing" because he goes back on what he says. I feel I was mistreated. He says now via email that the job is done, they're not coming back out, they're not doing anything, basically to suck it up.
When I called American Home Shield, they could not get me another provider to come out and do the roof. The rep said, "That's the only one that we have. So, we can't reassign this to somebody else." I said, "So, they do me wrong and there's nothing you can do about it. You're just gonna pay them. There's nothing I can do. There's nothing you can do." She replied, "There's nothing I can do to help you. I would have done this before they came out." I said, "Don't tell me what you would have done. Don't tell me what you were going to do. Tell me what you're going to do right now. What are you gonna do to help me?"
She said, "There's nothing I can do at this time 'cause they already went out, so you have to let them go out again." "But they missed their second appointment." "We can make them go out again." It's horrible. They did refund my service fee, but I still have to find somebody to fix my roof. My warranty company didn't help me. They've done this to me before on an appliance repair, too. They told me, "We only have that one provider." I said, "How do you tell me that you only have one provider when on your website, you're advertising that you have thousands of contractors?" I don't understand that.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

The lock itself was a two-piece. The lock in the bottom part of it was catching. The first time I put in the service request, the tech didn't come to see the problem. He asked for a video. I sent him a video of the door locking, and he said that wasn't a service covered by American Home Shield and it would cost us 100 and something dollars. I asked him for the brand to get it approved by the association. The claim was closed. We didn't hear back.
I submitted it again and it was the same guy. We said, "The association said it was fine and you could come and change it." He went and changed the lock, which works fine. The issue where it was broken, my tenant said that he even said to him, "You're not gonna fix this?” He said, "No. That can't be fixed. It’s the whole part needs to be changed." It wasn't addressed at all. He went, charged the $100 to rekey the area, which was annoying because we talked to him multiple times that that wasn't the issue. And he charged us an additional $100 to do it. I went over there because I wasn't present, my tenant was. He said, "I was just gonna re-key." I replied, "No. That's not what we discussed. We discussed it. I have videos. I have our chat, our conversations, and everything."
I told, "You told me that it wasn't covered by American Home Shield. But I still had to pay American Home Shield." He said, "Oh, yeah. You pay American Home Shield for me to go and evaluate the problem." I said, "You didn't evaluate the problem. You told me to send you a video, so I sent you a video." I paid AHS $125. He never went. I sent him a video. And when he went to fix the problem, he charged me to fix it and fix the wrong issue. Hhung up the phone when I told him he fixed the wrong thing. I understand if the issue was we just rekey. However, I specifically showed him that the problem was the door catched and door does not open. To not mention anything about the problem itself and come and fix something that wasn't broken is a big problem.
I called back to AHS and it was like talking to a robot. The lady kept on reading the print or whatever was covered. I said, "I understand what you're saying that the coverage from American Home Shield is this, but that wasn't the situation. The situation is that we spoke with the locksmith himself. We told him what the issue was.” I didn't know the language of what she was trying to say, like the way that he said it, he said, "The unit needs to be changed." It means that he recognized that there was a problem and that area needed to be changed.
Heven said, “That part is not made anymore. It's an old model. So, the new model cost this, this, and this.” I understood that he addressed the part that was broken. So, when I called AHS, the rep kept on saying that she needed to reach the locksmith and discuss it with him, but they were closed. I said, "Okay. So, what's the solution here?" Because the problem wasn't fixed and now, I'm $250 in the hole. What am I supposed to do now? I had the tech's cell phone number, so I called him directly. Once I started sending him the screenshots of our chats, he hung up on me and blocked my number. So, I tried to go to AHS.
The rep kept on repeating it. "I have to talk to the locksmith." She wouldn't listen to what I was saying. I said, "Okay. Is somebody gonna call me back?" She said, "No. You have to follow up.” On Monday when I called back, it was like just reading whatever was covered. I said, "Nobody's listening to what I'm saying. I understand what you guys are saying and what the policy is. But at the same time, you send somebody to my house who knew what the issue was, addressed something that had nothing to do with what was broken and charged me an additional amount, and then charged me what American Home Shield charges without even going to evaluate the problem, personally.” I tried. I called two or three times.

If you don't wanna pay out a lot of money for an appliance, using American Home Shield is the way to go, but you're gonna get the cheapest and worst contractors out there so it's gonna take them a few times to come. They will have to wait for parts to come. It's gonna take a lot longer and it's a lot more of a hassle and stress.
Our hot water heater started leaking and flooding the basement. I submitted my claim for that with American Home Shield online and it went okay. However, I thought I asked AHS in the past not to send us Murray's Plumbing, yet they still assigned it and we didn't have a say so we just had to go with that. We weren't very happy with that, but it was an easy process.
They called quickly to schedule it because we didn't have any hot water and it was flooded. We asked if it could be labeled as an emergency and could they come out that night and we were told no. It's disappointing that there are no emergency services. We had to wait a day to not be able to take a shower in the middle of winter. They came out the next morning, fixed it, but never tested it. It didn't leak anymore, but the water was cold so we had to have them come back out. It took another day for them to come back out and fix it again to where the water would get hot. Everything's repaired and working now.
I had an air conditioner that caught on fire and they would not repair that because they said it was electrical damage. I had my own HVAC guy come and I had to pay him $1,200 to fix it. He said the fire was not caused by electrical damage. It was caused by a plastic piece that melted. If I don't agree with their recommendation, they can send somebody else out. But if that person agrees with the first person, I have to pay another $100 for it. I didn't want to pay $100 for a second opinion and have their person who didn't know what he's doing to come out and say the same thing. But I had to pay $1,200 to get it fixed when it should have been fixed by American Home Shield.

We would never go through American Home Shield again. We'll drop them. I submitted our claim for our RV door online so it wasn't difficult. A contractor came out after six days but they didn't do anything. I just talked to AHS today. They denied it after three weeks of trying to get an answer from them, playing phone tag, emails, saying they would call me back. I filed the claim on the 8th of January, and today's the 28th. It took me this long to get an answer on where we are. They gave me the runaround. “Let me check a report. I have to check the report.” They couldn't get ahold of Winston Garage Doors. Winston Garage Doors would not reply to them. And they had to get the report before they could do anything. Two weeks went by, nothing happened.
That's not my problem as a consumer. That's an internal problem. They should have assigned somebody else. And they would not do it until they got the report from Winston, who took two weeks to send a report. That's unacceptable for anything. I was disgusted in AHS's responses and their way of handling everything. It was not just because they denied it, but because of the runaround. They've never been great to work with. I'm always on pins and needles who they will assign to me and what they will cover. But this was the absolute worst.
I've had four claims with AHS, yet they continue to increase their rates and change my coverage. We all know as consumers that we have to read through every fine line. Instead of them saying, “This was changed,” they don't highlight it. They sneak it through without telling us. In their system we select what I wanted covered, but somehow, they got around it because they changed it in the fine print but didn't tell me. It's deceitful. They are happy to take my payment without remorse. I can't do anything about it.
AHS has not covered other claims. Our well stopped working and they couldn't get someone out here for us for five days. We can't go without water for five days, so we called somebody, but AHS they wouldn't cover it. They said, “You called somebody. You didn't wait for us.” That's unrealistic. Also, they don't have emergency services. “Sorry. We just are on their mercy.” That's ridiculous. Life doesn't happen on someone's schedule. I'd love it, but it's not life and it's not reality. That's why you have a company like that trying to help you out. But if they don't make it to where you have emergency situations that they will send somebody out right away, you're at your own mercy and have to handle the situation. However, they turn around and say, “Sorry, you already called somebody. We can't cover that.” That's another loophole to their advantage where they take my money but don't do anything to help me.
Dear Ulana,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are not pleased with the warranty. I had some galvanized pipes in the crawl space that were from my bathroom sink that was leaking and Alstadt, the contractor, fixed that. They replaced with PVC all the piping from the toilet too, which wasn't leaking, but I'm glad they did. Then, they replaced the cast iron drain where everything drained to before it went out to the house. They had to cut into the wall behind the bathroom, but they told me about it so I fully expected it. It was just a little bit bigger than what I thought it would be, but that's okay because I already have something else scheduled to come fix that drywall. The two technicians who came out and fixed the pipes were awesome. They did an awesome job and I was very pleased.
American Home Shield is very helpful and I’d recommend it. I don’t know exactly how much that would have been, but I would assume the drywall would have cost $500, so maybe around $1,000 total. I’ve dealt with other home warranties in the past, and they didn’t cover as much. It’s worth paying whatever small amount it may be to have something like that. Considering the size of the project, getting it knocked down to $125 was great.
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your AHS customer experience. We are glad to provide you with prompt and professional service!

I was a little frustrated that American Home Shield didn't get enough information on the refrigerator and just sent out a repair guy who couldn’t fix it because he didn't have the tools. After a bit of a runaround, I said I wanted to set up another appointment immediately with someone who could work on our refrigerator. I got pushback about AHS’s policy and was told they couldn’t do anything until they received a report from the technician. So, I called the technician and asked if they had sent the report. They said they had sent it the day before and could send it again. I called AHS back and they told me they still didn’t have a report. I questioned who was being truthful because I had just spoken to the technician, who said it had already been sent. After that, there was more runaround and waiting on hold while they looked into it.
American Home Shield finally sent another tech and they have to go through another diagnosis process themselves. So, it had to be diagnosed again, even if we already knew that the problem was a bad compressor. Then they have to order the parts and get approval from American Home Shield. It took a few more days before they sent the approval to the tech. And now, we're going on three weeks without a refrigerator. The tech felt sorry for us and made a special arrangement to come out of his service zone on Friday to come and replace the compressor.
The customer service was trying to be as helpful as they could, but they're limited in what they can do. And I understand that. When I asked one of the call centers to escalate this up the chain, all she did was give me another call center person, and I asked that person if she was from a call center or higher up the chain with the company, and she told me she was with the company, but I'm not sure I believe that. Paying $125 for a service call versus $900 for a compressor is a good trade-off. But as far as my food getting spoiled because the refrigerator went bad, and waiting almost three weeks to get the refrigerator fixed is not so good. We bought a new house and signed up with American Home Shield just this year. And I'm thinking of looking for another company next year.

American Home Shield’s customer service is good. I usually report or request my service call online. But the one thing I like about their service is that if it remains unresolved after a certain period of time, they will check with you to see how it's going. I appreciate that. For the most part, I’ve had positive experiences with the techs they sent out. In the two most recent calls, they were great. I was assigned one a while back that never contacted me, and I requested a change of technician. It got assigned to this one that I'm very pleased with.
Thank you for sharing your positive experience with our services. We're delighted to hear you appreciate our follow-up process in case service isn't immediately resolved and the conveniences our techs have offered on recent calls. We also value your patience and cooperation in coordinating a more satisfying service solution for you when initial contact issues arose. My heat was out and submitting the claim online to American Home Shield was difficult. I called because it was after hours, but I got someone. I just wanted to follow up and make sure it went through. The contractor communicated well, called when he arrived, and waited a few minutes for me since I wasn’t here. I shared what the problem was and he did what he was supposed to do. I left, and when I came back home, the heat still wasn’t working, so he had to come back out. I called American Home Shield on Friday night to let them know that what the contractor did didn’t work. It was freezing cold, and they should have something in place for situations like that. The service should be expedited. I’m paying every month and then I have to pay $127 for the service call, so American Home Shield didn't meet my needs.
I was told the repair could only be expedited if I had one unit and it was 32 degrees outside. It was 35, so they said no. So, I cursed. I was livid. We were without heat on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The contractor came back on Monday and did a more thorough job. He showed me that there was water in a pipe or tube. The first time, he tried blowing through it, but the second time, he used a compressor and fixed it properly. Whatever he did on Monday worked, but it should have been done correctly the first time. That was my worst experience with American Home Shield, but I haven’t always had that.
The contractor should have done a better job of doing what he was supposed to do. And AHS should have accommodated us by expediting the service or sending someone else, and that’s where I was upset. I've had American Home Shield on and off for years, and it's been up and down with them. I’ve had situations before where I was paid for claims, and it wasn’t so bad.

I had an appliance issue and AHS sent out ADA Repair. They had to remove an oven to get to the microwave. The microwave was fixed. When they put the oven back, it's custom shelving, custom framed, and there was a block of wood that they set back in place, but it was never mounted. When you touched it, it fell by the wayside. I called AHS because I was concerned. They immediately called the vendor and found out that they needed to get the right repair equipment to fix the problem. And it's all been fixed fine. Also, we had two repairs and they all happened at one time. The refrigerator ice maker needed to be done and it was also fixed fine. All the appliances worked fine. It was all covered except the deductible. The premium is a little high from what we paid in the past, but I don't think it's outrageous.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed review with us. We're pleased to know that the microwave and ice maker repairs were successfully handled. The first guy from ADA Repair that came out didn't do the job right. He ordered the wrong part. But the second person from the same company came out, ordered the right part, installed it, and did good. It would’ve been more timely if the guy didn't screw up and I wouldn't have had to wait over three weeks. It could have been done in one. Other than that, most of the time, it's hard to talk to American Home Shield's reps because English is their second language. I would also tell my friends to find somebody else. These guys have gotten too expensive. They do a good job when they get here, but the price keeps going up. I'm paying $1,200 a year now. It started off 12 years ago at $43 a month and now it's $135 a month, which is ridiculous.
But most of the time, the agents are good. One guy came out for my air conditioner and he said the thing was nonrepairable. He said they had to replace it. Then I had the second guy come out and he said he could fix it for me. And in an hour and a half, he was out of the house and it was working. I also had people come out for the dishwasher and the stove who were able to fix them. So if I have problems, I wish I can pick the agent that I want that was here recently who did a good job.

My recent claim with AHS was for a gas oven. They have taken care of it. However, when I submit claims, if I call on a Friday, then I gotta wait till Monday. But, if you're talking business days, it's pretty fast. But sometimes when something goes wrong, it doesn't matter if it's a weekend or a weekday. If something goes out, it's out. That's the only drawback I have. But everything is good enough for me to suggest AHS to my friends or family.

American Home Shield sent out Majestic Appliance Services for a dryer repair and it went great. The technician came out, told me that the wheels had just been worn down, and he was going to have to order the parts. It would take about a week, and he would come back and do the actual service. It took a couple of days. When he came back, he serviced it, then he drained it a couple of times so that I could see that the dryer was working properly, and then he left. I haven't had any problems with it at all.
I send in my claims through American Home Shield's automated system. Everything was fine with it. The only problem I have is when they tell you they will get back to you within 24 hours, that would be fine, but that does not include weekends. So if your dryer breaks down on a Friday, you don't get to talk to anybody until Monday. But other than that, everything was really great. The rate is a little bit high since the last increase but everything is going up.

I like that with AHS, if I have issues with my appliances, I can just contact somebody, they can tell me what is going on, and it's pretty much covered. For my recent claim, Elite Air & Heat came out. Every time we turn the appliance on, it'll say heating, but it won't actually come on. If it did, it'll come on just for three minutes and cut back off. They found out it was a flame sensor. Communication with Elite Air was great. They were professional. The tech told me exactly what was going on, and he sent me a follow-up email. The flame sensor needed to be cleaned. He cleaned it, he took it out, he popped it out, he cleaned it really well, and then he put it back in, and then it started working ever since. It's working right now. AHS is awesome, very fast and professional as well.

The thermostat of the washing machine was getting too hot and it was melting the dishes in there. A tech from Express Appliances came out and thinking that everything was okay, the guy left. Then I started running it and nothing was happening. The water would get in, it would get hot, but nothing was getting clean and the pods were not dissolving. So another guy came back out and he said the water was not getting hot enough. But he said he did this change and it should be working now. he also said that I shouldn't have a problem for a year or so. When he left, I ran the test run and still got the same thing. The unit was getting hot, but it was not cleaning anything.
So the tech apparently put in a ticket and he stated that it was related to the hot water heater. Now, I didn't know he did that before he left and if he told me that, I would have told him that the problem has nothing to do with the hot water heater because I'm getting hot water in my clothes washer, in all the sinks, and the shower. But since he put the ticket in, I have to go through the process where a guy would come out to see if the water heater works, instead of telling them to just cancel the tech visit. The guy came today and he said there's nothing wrong with the hot water heater. Then he left and I saw that that American Home Shield switched my claim back over to Express Appliances. I haven't called them back yet, but I have to call them back now to get them to come back out here and look at my washing machine to figure out exactly what's wrong with it.
I also have a microwave that they serviced many times and it's still broken. I'm waiting for a technician to come out next month to hopefully fix it. At this point, every time I got to pay 100 bucks for somebody to come out, I might as well just cancel the service, save my money, and buy whole new appliances every time something breaks. It's not really helpful at this point because nothing's really getting fixed. So it can be a little bit cumbersome dealing with America Home Shield. If somebody comes out and I notice the service isn't fixed, I got to go through American Home Shield again instead of talking directly to the people who are doing the servicing, and it just ends up taking the process longer than it needs to be.
Other than that, American Home Shield's online process is pretty straightforward. With them, you can get a quick reply and get somebody out here promptly. Aside from that, so far, a couple things have been serviced and worked. But these two main things right here on my washing machine and microwave cause a drawback. All in all, American Home Shield's service is not bad, but it could be better.
Thank you for sharing such a detailed account of your experiences with American Home Shield. We understand how distressing it can be when expected resolutions fall through after repeated service visits, particularly regarding your washing machine and microwave. Clearly, these reoccurring issues are understandably frustrating, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Please feel free to reach out to us in the future as needed.

Had positive experiences with two of three requests submitted however, the rekey service was so horrific it made this review two stars because the experience with the bad provider AND American Home Shield just trying to get scheduled was so terrible and so poorly managed it far outweighed the two other tickets that were handled as expected. They use a company to rekey and make it a struggle to request a different provider even when you don’t get an appointment timely. I will not renew after my one year contract is over that’s for sure. I feel foolish to think AHS would stand behind their product.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

My furnace wasn't working properly. It was turning on, but it wasn't blowing up any hot air. I called American Home Shield and spoke to a person who provided good help. My service request was assigned to SNG and the company called and told me that they will be coming the next day at a certain window of time. It was great. When they came, they said my furnace needed maintenance, so they opened up the furnace, cleaned it up and that was it. The unit has been working well. SNG did a great job and we really liked them.
I've been protected with American Home Shield for almost two years already. Our friends told us about it and I had them before as well. I like that I just have to pay my service fee and they take care of the rest. However, their network of contractors could be better because we had to get someone that's an hour and 30 minutes from us. If there could be more contractors that are local, that'll be better. All in all, getting American Home Shield is definitely something to consider. It takes away a lot of the stress sometimes, especially when it's something expensive.

I put the request in for my washing machine on January 12th and the tech came out on the 16th but he didn't take the machine apart. He was troubleshooting using his phone and when he finished, he said he needed a part. He said he'd call the company and after that, I didn't hear back from them. So, the following Saturday, I called American Home Shield and I told the lady who answered the phone that I was concerned because at that point, it was almost three weeks that my washer was not working. She told me that she was going to reach out to the company and see if she can ask them how we can resolve this. She was very nice. But until now, it's not resolved and my machine is still making the noise.
I also asked American Home Shield's rep if I should stop using the machine and she told me to use it for now. So, I have been using the washing machine, but it's still making the same noise. In fact, it's getting louder. Then when I looked online, American Home Shield's website says the ticket is complete and I don't know what that means. But the person from American Home Shield that I talked to last weekend said she didn't think that's what that meant because the washing machine is not fixed yet. I've also tried to call the contractor several times, and I'm just getting a busy signal. Last year, I dropped my plan with them, but then I came back because I've never had an issue like this before. I have used American Home Shield for eight years and this is an isolated incident. I also love their online claims system, which is easy to use.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

I had three appliances that all seemed to act up at the same time. It was a dishwasher, a washer, and a dryer. I called American Home Shield because I wanted to see if they could have one company come look at all three appliances at one time. It was a quick phone call and it was taken care of. They set me up for all three appliances with one person, which was great. It made my life easier.
I spoke to the service company's office and we had the first technician who came out and looked at my three appliances. After the estimates, they went back to write up what they thought the repairs needed then we had the second technician who came to do the repairs. All of them were wonderful. They were really nice and very knowledgeable and I highly recommend them even on a non-warranty type call. They took care of me from start to finish. They were there when they said they were gonna be there and they did everything they needed to do.
Everything is done. They replaced my dishwasher because the power board is evidently fried and that's more expensive to fix than replace. They repaired my dryer because it was just a squeaky part. They also attempted to fix my washer. They took it apart and, unfortunately, what they thought was something fixable was not fixable. So they ended up replacing my washer as well. Everything was great. I'm in the process of getting my new dishwasher and my new washer, but everything else was speedy, quick and no stress. I can't complain.

I did a claim online for a leaking garbage disposal and it was very easy. The timeliness of response could be improved though. American Home Shield said within 12 to 24 hours, and it was a couple of days. It was a busy time. Other than that, American Home Shield stood behind the warranty and replaced the unit. It could not be repaired and the service guy from the company that came had the product on hand to do it when he arrived the first time. He was professional, did everything, and explained everything. So far, so good.

I've never had somebody answer the phone when I call American Home Shield that I can understand. They're all overseas. I wish it was easier to understand AHS's reps and AHS had people that would speak English a bit easier. I also wish they would gather information and communicate the information. Unfortunately, they got little people on the phone who know how to say yes and no in their native language. And they don't ask enough questions to find out what the problem is, to communicate, or even try to find an appropriate vendor that can fix the problem. I have a hearing issue anyway. So, it was very difficult for me to understand the person on the other end of the phone. And every time I've called them, I've had the same issue. Other than that, submitting claims was not a problem.
My most recent experience took a while, but got it done. The first two vendors that AHS used couldn't fix the refrigerator, and were both rude. The third one did, when AHS finally got a reputable service rep from Sears. The first tech came and tried to make a temporary fix, which did not work. He came back with a part. The part did not fix it. I called AHS back. They said they would have to send it to another vendor, which they did. He came out, and I had the appliance unplugged because it wasn't running. He closed the file, saying that there wasn't a problem, and left. I had to call and open the file back up again. That was when AHS sent the Sears guy out. He came out, ordered the parts, came back, fixed it, everything's fine.
The vendors get a phone call to come out, but nobody knows what the problem is. They come in not knowing enough information. AHS doesn't take enough information to communicate to the vendor. So, when the vendor comes in, it's almost like they are making a cold call, knocking on the door. I said, “It's a refrigerator.” They don't know any information, even though I tried to submit it to somebody. A phone call from a vendor asking for more information could give them more information in order to fix it.

Supreme Service Group was the first group to come out here for my claim. The tech was rude. He was disrespectful to my neighborhood. He parked in a place that I told him was another residence parking. We respect each other around here. I don't park in their spaces. They don't park in mine. We have visitor's parking. He informed me that he didn't have four-wheel drive. That was none of my concern. He knew when he came out here, there was snow out here. That was a poor excuse. He came into my home and had no footies on his feet, tramping in water and mud. When he got to the washer, I was trying to explain to him that the washer and dryer have a communication system. The washer, when it finishes, sends the load over to the dryer and tells the dryer how to set it up. That's something that I don't have to do. Apparently, he was not familiar with that.
I've had this set for 16 years, so I know how it works. The washer, when it set the timer for 47 minutes, instead of saying 47, it would drop down to 40. So, that means I'm losing seven minutes of washing time. He said, “Well, what's wrong with that?” I said, “Okay. This ain't going too well.” But he chose to leave because he was angry, because where he parked, he should not have parked there. My washer and dryer are still not fixed. But I have gotten some good results with AHS. Like now, I'm still waiting. They're gonna try to give me a mixed-matched set. But my stuff matches, and I'm not willing to take a mixed-matched set. So this deal right now, I'm not happy with.

I had a leak in my boiler, and I called American Home Shield, and a few days later, they dispatched someone to check on the leak. They said they had to order a part. Then I had to call for 10 days straight because no one ever called me back. No one ever followed up. I had numerous calls to the company that they had sent to the house and to American Home Shield. Finally, they called me back, and it was already too late. I had to hire another company on my own to come in and do the work. The part was never ordered to top it off.
Submitting the claim was extremely easy. I went right through the app. It's very user-friendly. I did the live video with a technician. He said let me move my phone to the left and to the right. He took pictures. Then he said I definitely needed someone to come out. Right from there, I submitted the claim right through the app. Everything after that was a nightmare.
American Home Shield is HORRIBLE, and I would never recommend this company! I'm canceling my membership and looking at different companies to use because they're awful. That experience was the worst, and I still am experiencing problems with leaking. It was never correctly taken care of. I've been with American Home Shield for almost two years and this was my third claim. The other ones were taken care of in a reasonable amount of time with skilled people, but this one was atrocious. There was no resolution, and I had to keep calling.

The ice maker wasn't working properly. When the guy came out to repair it, he broke off a screw on the door hinge. The ice maker got repaired, but it took over a year to get that bolt replaced. We have two ice makers and when the other ice maker broke, the guy came out to repair it, and he came back to fix the bolt that was broken, but we had to call numerous times to get that bolt taken care of. It took about a year and then American Home Shield didn't have any record of it. We finally got it taken care of, but it was impossible to try and get through to the contractor sometimes. But I dreaded calling American Home Shield because I knew they wouldn't have an answer and I’d get the runaround again.
I kind of pitched a little bit of a fit about it. When I called for the second ice maker, the guy had to order something. It was $100 to fix the ice maker, and then American Home Shield was gonna charge me another $100 to fix that broken bolt when it was one of the repairmen had broken off a year before. I had to have a lengthy conversation with them as to why we shouldn't have to pay that $100. I ended up not paying for that $100 to get the bolt fixed.
All of the contractors that came out were great and real nice. The first contractor for the first ice maker was awesome, and he fixed it right away. He knew what he was doing. My husband had more dealings with this guy that came out for the second ice maker, but he seemed very professional and knew what was going on. The repairmen seemed to know what they were doing, but trying to get through and talking to somebody at American Home Shield that you can actually understand is virtually impossible. I called American Home Shield for my claims and it was real hard to understand their representatives. They had such strong accents. They were pleasant. They weren't rude. I just couldn't understand them. Also, working with American Home Shield, we don't have any leeway at all on what time the contractors are gonna come to service us. It's between 12:00 and 6:00 or none at all.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with American Home Shield. We apologize for the extended time it took to replace the broken bolt and the challenges you faced with communication both from us and the contractor. We understand that scheduling difficulties and a lack of service time flexibility can be frustrating, and we're dedicated to addressing these concerns to help improve future interactions. It’s great to hear that the contractors provided professional service and competence during repairs.

I called American Home Shield to submit my claim and spoke with a representative because I had two items on one claim and couldn’t figure out how to do it online. The representative was great. The contractor made an appointment, showed up when she said she would, and repaired my washer and dryer. Then, she looked at the dishwasher. But we could not get parts for it. So, a dishwasher was ordered, which was fine with American Home Shield, but when it was delivered, it could not be installed because it’s a hardwired dishwasher. The contractor asked if he should drop it off or take it, and told him to drop it off. They got another appliance out of Sacramento and called to make an appointment.
I called back after a missed call and message, but the tech was too busy to talk. The next day, he was still too busy and said he didn’t know when they would come. He texted that they’d either be out last Friday or Saturday. On Monday, I called American Home Shield and they contacted him, and he said he would call to make the appointment. I haven’t heard from him yet, and it’s been about 10 days. So it’s not American Home Shield, it’s their contractor.
As far as the washer and dryer, the performance has been great. Hometown Appliance was great to work with and I liked them. The techs identified the issues and the parts were ordered. As soon as they came in, the appliance was repaired. Other than the dishwasher situation, American Home Shield has been flawless. They looked for people so I didn't have to. My previous warranty never had anyone who could come out here, so this has been very pleasant. I would describe my experience with American Home Shield as efficient.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with American Home Shield. We're glad to hear that the process was efficient for your washer and dryer issues, and that Hometown Appliance provided dependable service. We appreciate your patience and are sorry to hear about the contractor delays regarding your dishwasher installation. We'll look into the situation and strive for a timely resolution. If you need any assistance or have further questions, please do reach out to us directly. What stood out is that your previous coverage experiences varied; we're pleased our service has met your needs and made things more convenient for your home.

Initially, we called American Home Shield because there was some liquid in the meter. Someone came out who didn't know how to replace it or fix it. The person looked at a video, trying to figure out how to fix the pipes after he took them apart. Had I known that, I wouldn't have let him take the pipes apart. I immediately called AHS and they tried to work with me to resolve it. The person from AHS said, "Let me help you fix this. Let me get someone out there." I gave them another chance. They sent someone else. They sent someone to help the tech but that person didn't know how to do things either.
I called back. All of this should be on recording because I kept calling and telling the supervisor for AHS what was happening. I'm tired of going back and forth with this because everybody keeps calling me about what's happening and nobody's doing anything about it. I've been dealing with this for months. I already told AHS that I'm not satisfied with this whole process.

The heater would not hit over 53. I submitted an online claim to American Home Shield. ART Heating & Air Conditioning came, and I told them what the issue was. So, they went to where the unit is. They said there is a reader by the unit and it says the inside was 95. Also, the tech pulled up something and he said that thing was dirty. He showed me a picture and how it's supposed to look, and he said mine was dirty. It might be the reason. Maybe that was the reason why it was not heating up. I don't know what they did, but they worked around and it started heating up.
When they finished, I asked them if they were gonna clean it or not. They said it was working, so they might not. I was like, "If you're not going to clean and then come back to the situation, what am I supposed to do?” They went outside for a while and they came. They spoke to their boss and they said they could clean it now. They pulled that thing and took it outside and cleaned it. So, when they left, it started overheating. It wasn't cooling down, and it was heating above 85.
I reported the issue to American Home Shield. So, the next morning, someone came back and he was asking me and I told him, "Well, this is the situation." When they came in, I did not touch anything, but the inside was overheating. I tried to turn on the AC and maybe it can cool down. Even though the AC was on, it never came down. So, that person came in and he also did something, but now the problem is solved.

I have called American Home Shield twice. They sent someone to help with my HVAC. It turned out that the issue has nothing to do with my heating thing. Nothing has happened to it. They recommended that an expert come to the house to check. I did not know that they were not linked to American Home Shield. It almost cost $4,000 to change the thing. A single mom having to cover 4,000 is crazy. It really took a toll on me. It turned out nothing was damaged and they had to change it at that time when I didn't need it.
The second call was for the same HVAC. Some of the electrical wires were blown out. So, an expert came in. He was good. He told me the wires weren't covered under the insurance. This year, we were in the middle of the cold and I didn't have any option in the house. So, I haven't been that satisfied with American Home Shield. If their third party recommends something, they need to let us talk to the insurance to see what it covers and doesn't cover.

I call American Home Shield to submit claims and it’s easy but sometimes, getting the techs to come out timely is not. Maryland Mechanical Heating came out and looked at the furnace, and they were fine. But there was a time when weird things happened all at the same time. My heating was not right and I had a dishwasher problem at a resort home. That was fine as well. But my toilets and shower wouldn't flush or drain, and I had a clog in the big pipe outside.
I made the claim on a Thursday and the rep from American Home Shield said they would call within 24 hours. I told them I needed help on that day, and they said they would escalate that, only because I pushed back so hard. I’ve only had to do that one time. But at other times, they get it within 24 hours, as they tell you. Sometimes the contractor will call you, or American Home Shield will give you the phone number. They have a very bad reputation out there and I'm looking for another company to contract with.
I've been with American Home Shield for several years, and I've enjoyed the experience. I don’t have a lot of claims and I can go a whole year without having anything. But I’m one of those people who, when it rains, it pours, and when I called, they told me that American Home Shield doesn’t cover this or that. Out of the three claims I have, one was a sewer problem. I’ve been trying for two weeks to get a supervisor from the plumbing company to call me back, and they won’t. When they came out, they said they could snake the toilet, but if it was the pipe and they had to take the toilet off to get to it, American Home Shield wouldn’t cover that. I ended up paying out of pocket while the man was standing there.
I have a renter and we have AHS on three properties. I was going to get it for my mother, who’s 84, but I wouldn’t do it because it’s too much hassle. I want someone where I call them, they come out, and that’s it. I don’t want to go back and forth and argue about whether something is covered or not. A pipe is a pipe. Either you’re going to fix it or not. Also, there are language barriers with the individuals taking the calls that prevent them from understanding what you’re talking about. I can understand them and I speak other languages, but I’m not sure they understand what I’m explaining as the problem.
People should make sure that what they want covered is talked about explicitly when they sign up. Most people just get the warranty for the whole house because they worry that if they’re away, something like the plumbing is going to go bad. If they are going to get a contract and if they have specific scenarios they want covered, they should review that in the beginning so they’re clear on what’s covered, especially for something like a vacation home that’s far away. If someone says something is wrong, you can’t just have someone come in and fix it. It’s not that easy. But it wasn’t that way a couple of years ago with American Home Shield. Something has changed and it’s been a very different experience. It doesn’t feel like they’re there to help me.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed experience with American Home Shield. We sincerely apologize for the inconsistencies you've encountered with our service, especially regarding timely contractor arrivals and the miscommunication about coverage during your claims process.
Your frustration is understandable when immediate assistance for urgent issues wasn't readily available, and we regret the inconvenience this has caused. Your feedback plays an important role in guiding these improvements.

A part had to be ordered and I'm still waiting to hear back from them. I try to submit claims online but I can’t get through sometimes or I can't explain what I need to explain. Then I'll have to call, which is a pain. It takes forever. Sometimes there's a language issue where it's hard to understand them. But that goes for anybody who's using a call center these days.
American Home Shield always takes care of me. The price goes up every year though and it’s gotten to the point where they’re gonna price themselves out. I have old appliances, and I’d much rather get new ones instead of trying to fix them. Between the monthly charge and the $100 every time they come out, it’s a lot. I could probably get somebody to fix it on my own for cheaper than that. I have a new air conditioning unit, and eventually I’m gonna have new appliances. I don't know whether American Home Shield’s warranty is gonna be worth it or not. They're getting pricey.
We sincerely appreciate your continued loyalty to us. Your feedback is invaluable, and we are grateful for the time you took to share your experience.

We highly recommend American Home Shield. We've had it in previous homes. We wanted to make sure that we were covered after the builder warranty ended for this new home that we purchased two years ago. We like that it's there for when we need something fixed or replaced. When the ice maker and water dispenser were not working, I submitted a claim for them with American Home Shield through the website. I received the name of the place and that they would give us a call or if I needed to call them, they had their phone number on there. Everything was good. The first time they came out they ordered a valve in the back of the refrigerator where the water comes in from. The refrigerator still did not work. The contractor came back and ordered a computer board. The tech came, put it in, but it still didn't work. American Home Shield already sent us a check because we purchased it at Home Depot, not at Lowe's. It will be delivered on Friday.

Day and Night AC repaired the air conditioner that had stopped working. We already knew what it was because my husband was an air conditioning technician for years. Since he's retired, he no longer has the parts or anything to fix it. The only issue I have with the contractor is that they don’t answer their phone properly. You don't know if it's a business or a home phone. They just say, "Hello." It was weird. But they were very nice. My husband usually submits requests online since it’s very difficult to get ahold of anybody in American Home Shield by phone. But once you get ahold of anybody, they’re great. The problem is that the hours when people respond are not good. There should be people available on weekends and holidays as well, when something goes wrong.
When my refrigerator went out at Thanksgiving, I was without a refrigerator for weeks. I had to buy a small one just to tide me over until it was fixed. Part of the delay was waiting for parts, so it wasn’t entirely American Home Shield’s fault. But getting ahold of somebody and getting someone to come out was frustrating. The first company they sent didn’t know what they were doing, so they had to send another company, which delayed it even more. Once they finally got someone out and got the part, it was okay. Pricewise, it keeps going up, so if something goes wrong, it's worth it. But if nothing goes wrong, then it's not.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide!

American Home Shield is good. US Air is not. As long as your issue doesn't have anything to do with your heater and US Air, that's not a problem. I've already let AHS know to never send US Air out here again. I had a heater that ran constantly. It would not turn off. I filed a claim with AHS online, and they sent out US Air. They told me it was two switches, and they said they would be back out in a day or two, because they had to go back into town and get it, but they were booked.
Nearly two weeks later, they finally came back out without contacting me and telling me anything about the status, what was going on, or when they would come out. They didn't tell me anything. They didn't come out with the switches or anything else, even though they were aware that something was going on. They didn't bring their basic materials out with them. AHS told me, "They already have it. They've been out once, so they'll call you." That was AHS's interaction with it all. Their customer service sucked. I've not had that problem before for years, but this time, it was aggravating, specifically because we had cold weather, and I had to get up and manually turn my heater off and on throughout the night.
Thank you for bringing your experience with US Air and American Home Shield to our attention. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delayed and unsatisfactory handling of your heater repair, particularly given the cold weather conditions. Lack of communication and failure to return with the necessary parts falls short of the service standards we strive to provide.
We appreciate your patience and for informing us that US Air did not meet your expectations. Our priority is to ensure your home warranty experience is reliable and efficient. I like that I have coverage for all of the systems and appliances in the home. It gives me some assurance that if anything goes wrong, I don't have to worry about paying thousands of dollars out of pocket at one time. The coverage makes me secure. I've had an issue or two in the past, but nothing that American Home Shield didn't eventually fix. One or two things have taken longer than I hoped, but everything major has been resolved and to my satisfaction.
If you purchase the right plan, you'll have coverage over your appliances and systems. If anything goes wrong, the warranty company will cover it. That doesn't mean that it will be free. It just means that paying for that coverage on an annual basis does reduce what you might have to pay if one of your systems goes down. It also allows you the opportunity to have the work done by tested and tried companies, where if you didn't have the warranty, you'd go with any company that you found. And you wouldn't know that they were reputable. AHS knows, or at least has been using these companies, so you can expect them to be reputable.
A contractor came out last week to take a look at a problem that I was having with the heating system. It would come on and keep the house at a certain level, but it would not getting to the 68 degrees that we set the thermostat. It stayed at 60 degrees. I submitted my claim for that online through American Home Shield's website. It was very simple. I got the name of the company that it had been assigned to. I also got a phone number for the contractor. AHS let me know that someone would contact me. They contacted me the next day, which was a Saturday. I was very grateful for that because it was very cold. I thought they would have to wait until Monday to at least reach out but they got back to me quickly.
They contacted me via text, which was good because it was a Saturday and I didn't really care to be on the phone. They asked me a bit more about the issues. I explained that the home wasn't warming up. And they asked if they could come out on Monday and gave me a window. I asked if they could give me a bit of a heads-up before they arrive so I could either make sure the tenant was there, and if the tenant wasn't there, I could shoot over there myself.
On Monday morning, they came within the window they gave me. They did give me a bit of a heads-up to let me know when they were coming so I could confirm with the tenant that he was home. They said that there was a sensor in the unit in the furnace that was dirty so it didn't functioning properly. It would stop the unit before it could go all the way up to the temperature that we set the thermostat. They cleaned it out immediately. The unit has been back to heating the way it's supposed to for over a week.

The American Home Shield agent I talked to on the phone was very helpful. Putting the submission in was great. However, I called them to follow up and my claim is still at a standstill. The contractor came out one time. That was it. They're supposed to come back and fix the problem, but they never did, because there was another problem. They cut through the center of the what they told me was a leak. That was a long time ago and they have not came back to repair my wall. The contractor lied, saying that he had to go through the wall and do it. It was no more leak. He just tried to get paid extra. I spoke to someone from AHS about it. They were supposed to have been reaching out to them. My hole is still open. I'm gonna cancel my contract. Don't get AHS.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We sincerely apologize for the delays and inconvenience you faced regarding the unresolved claim and contractor service. It is concerning to hear about the ineffective follow-up and the issues with the wall repair. Rest assured, your feedback is crucial. We purchased our property in 2025 March and purchased home warranty from American Home Shield which includes also the pool equipment, plumbing, etc. As first time pool owners we also hired a pool company to service the pool. When our pool service company brought up some issues with the pool equipment that resulted in failure like salt cell not working, we filed a service call and AHS sent a company to inspect. We filed the claim but we were told our claim was denied. We were never given any justification on the basis of denial. Later we also had an HVAC maintenance service call and get the AC serviced. There were some strange noises coming from the unit from time to time, intermittently. When I inquired on that I was told it will be denied as it is an old unit.
Basically, you are paying for warranty on paper. When it is time to use what you pay for, you will get denied. I am not sure if any other company is better but I would stay away from the AHS. I was planning to cancel the contract after the bad experience but we were in the midst of selling our old house and work got busy. It slipped my mind. I was just reminded by their service rep when it was time to renew, and that audacity pissed me off that I wanted to cancel my plan and get the refund on the remaining 22 days.
When I called their customer service, I was again tossed around, and finally, when I reached the Member Resolution Dept, I was told that I cannot cancel within the last month of the annual contract, and if I do, they will assess a $50 cancellation fee. I am pissed about the poor service that I asked for a written explanation on the reason for my claim denial earlier, and I will escalate this further so that other customers may not suffer from similar mistreatment.

I don't like that sometimes I'll have a communication issue with some of the folks in an overseas call center. I've opted now to use the app and not deal with the people. So, it has been okay. It's going on five years since I've been with American Home Shield. I submit my claims online and it has been easy. AHS usually lets me know somebody’s gonna call within 48 hours. We normally get a call from whatever company that they chose and come out and do the service. The techs are very professional, polite and patient. Because my husband is handicapped and I'm usually at work, I may have to call a couple of times, give him time to get downstairs and to the door. They've been patient with that. I recommend AHS to a friend.

Three different companies have come out for the furnace and every time they come out, it's $100. So, now I'm $300 in for the furnace, and I'm $100 in for the garage door. American Home Shield sent out a contractor who didn't do anything. They just came in, took a picture. and said, “Oh, I just wanna make sure you have heat.” We were like, “Okay.” That was disappointing.
We got online with the virtual assistant. He was actually very helpful, walked us through some things, and took a lot of notes, and like virtual pictures. And he said, “I'm gonna give you some things to do that’ll make sure you have heat,” because there was a winter storm happening at the same time. He said, “We're gonna give you some things to make sure you have heat.” He saud he was taking notes and that he would put them in there. He also said, “But you do need to put in a service request.” Then they sent out this one contractor. He doesn't come in. We asked him about the notes. He just said, “I'm just here to make sure you have heat.” He took a picture of our furnace and he walked away. Never came back inside the house. They left. So, we followed up with American Home Shield. We told them, “Hey, what's going on? We still know we have this situation that the virtual advisor gave us. But he told us this is a temporary thing.”
The people you get when you call about the service requests are not that informed. So, then you have to escalate it, and then you got to wait for somebody to call you back to escalate once you escalate it. Sometimes they call you back, and sometimes they don't. Two weeks went by and we finally called them back. We get a gentleman on the phone. We had to escalate the call again. We get him on the phone. He was like, “Oh, this is crazy. This should have never happened.” He was very apologetic. He said, “We wanna send out another company.” So, then they sent out another company.
The company came out and they were very nice. They told us that they don't work on this type of furnace. So, we keep referring back to this virtual person. We told him, “Well, he put all this information in the notes so you would know what the problem is.” He said, “No. We don't get those. We don't know.” So, now we're still dealing with the same thing. We're a month into it now. So, we're a month into it. Fortunately, everything he did kept us with heat because it's winter where we are. It's very cold. So, we've had snow and freezing temperatures. So, everything he gave us has held on.
We called back again. We wait a couple of days. We call back again. Every time you call back, you get the same people, entry-level people. Then they go through this whole spiel that they do and then you have to escalate it. The third time we're escalating it, we get a young lady on the phone. We told them that we still haven't got our furnace fixed. So, she said, “We're gonna send out another company who specifically can work on your furnace.” We then said, “Okay. Why didn't that happen the first time?” Right now, I'm literally shopping for another company this weekend because I'm so upset about this.

I called American Home Shield because smoke was coming out during the spin cycle from my washing machine. So, a tech came out, and within five minutes, he said, “Yeah, it's going to have to be replaced, because the entire bucket in the machine is going to have to be replaced, and that's basically almost the cost of a new machine. And so, we're not going to be able to fix this, or it's not worth fixing. So, we'll let them know, and then they're going to send you some options of what you can do.” They said I would be contacted within three to five business days, and I didn't hear anything back from American Home Shield.
I called American Home Shield after about a week, and I told them, “Hey, what's the next step on this? The tech said that I was going to be hearing from you all about options.” They said, “Oh, no. It says on our end here that parts are being ordered for repair.” So I said, “No, that's not what the tech told me. The tech never said anything about parts. He was literally here for five minutes and said that the whole thing had to be junked because it wasn't worth fixing.” But they told me that was not what they had there.
I had to call SRL back and tell them, “Can y'all call American Home Shield and tell them that there's an error in this somewhere, because you're telling me it needs to be replaced, and they're telling me it's going to be fixed.” So they called American Home Shield and within an hour, I got a message from American Home Shield saying that my claim was being processed. Shortly after that, I got the email giving me options on replacing the washing machine.
After another week, I called American Home Shield and asked, “Hey, what's going on? Why have I not heard anything back yet?” They said, “Oh, we sent you an email.” So I checked, and there was the email. I thought I was going to get a call. I went through the process and chose a gift card, and they're going to be sending that to me in a couple of days. But the communication was not good on the whole thing. I had made a claim before, and it all went great, and it went exactly as they told me it would.
American Home Shield is a fine service, but you just need to follow up if you don't hear anything back too quick. I have an app now and I have a webpage that I can log into that shows my stuff, but it doesn't really give helpful information. When you make a claim, there's not really that much information about it. It just goes from open to closed, and there's not really a process. If American Home Shield had a log there that says, “The tech called us at this time. We processed this at this time. We did this,” that would be more helpful to the clients who are using the service. Communication is important. So, if they had communicated better, I would be happier. The techs who come out tend to do a good job. I've never had somebody come out who didn't do a good job on their stuff. I've always been satisfied with the people that American Home Shield sends out.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand that timely communication is crucial, and we're sorry to hear about the unexpected delays you encountered. We appreciate your feedback regarding the improvement of our communication regarding claims and are working to enhance this area for our customers. The tech from All Comfort who came out for the heater said it was the thermostat that was off. He replaced it. He went in and looked if the coil inside the door was working or not. He looked where the pilot light’s supposed to be. He checked the breakers, and then made that determination that it was the thermostat. I wasn't home when he came out, but my son was there and they loved the tech. They didn't have a problem. Everything is functioning great now. Our house gets warm.
As far as American Home Shield, we had it a long time ago, and they were awesome. I didn't get it renewed, but then, we got it back on. What I like most about them is they come right out. What do I like the least about it is their price because I have two contracts with them. It's about $50 a month, and I think it’s expensive. Other than that, I'd tell others that they need to get AHS to cover cost because when something breaks, it's going to be expensive.

I've had American Home Shield for so long so I keep it. They give good customer service. However, I pay out so much money, yet I get nothing in return. It's just money being thrown. It would be different if I had just started with them a month ago, but I've been with them for years. To not be able to get anything back and for them not to even touch base with me, I was appalled.
I had a unit that I had to put in because it broke down, but AHS refused to pay me. They were willing to pay me up to $2,000 if I went with a company they provided. But I did a review on the company that they had provided and they had poor reviews. So, I went with a different company. They chose not to pay me, and I was disappointed with that. I've had AHS forever, and I feel we should have an option of who we choose to pick because we pay out thousands of dollars.
I've never had a problem with AHS. They went through with my water heater, which was fine. It was fixed. But I also had a plumbing issue that they weren't able to fix on their end because it belonged to the city of Lubbock. So, I went through the City of Lubbock and they paid some of it, and I had to pay $1,000 back. I wasn't reimbursed for that. When I need it and being that I pay for it, I'd like to get some type of reimbursement. I haven't had that happen.
Dear Vicki,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Please know that we strive to set proper expectations when creating service requests, and we sincerely regret any frustration this situation may have caused. Please note that American Home Shield does not reimburse for services performed by your own contractor without prior authorization, and reimbursement could not be extended in accordance with the terms of your service plan. We appreciate your understanding and the opportunity to provide this additional clarification.

The washer stopped getting water. It made a whole lot of noise when it was spinning. I sent in a claim to American Home Shield and then the guy came in and said it just needed a couple of parts. After we waited like three weeks, he came back. He said it was not the part he brought. He was not able to fix it. The contractor made us do a lot of stuff. I was expecting the guy to do the washer, anything around the washer. Not me. If I'm able to do that, I'm not gonna call or have this warranty.
They want me to touch the dryer, take out the tray, and remove the washer. But I cannot take out the tray. I said that. They canceled it on me. And I have to move the washer from the tray and send the picture. And then they came back after a week. That was a hassle. They want all four sides of the washer clear of anything. There's a dryer next to it. Then they want me to take out the tray. There's a tray underneath the washer. I can't even take it out. I tried, but it's stuck or attached with something. But we're able to move it in front of it. It's hard to work with that.
When the guy came in, he brought a valve and then another part. He put them in, and he tried it. Then nothing changed. Same thing, broken, doesn't take any water. He tried the hose without connecting it with the machine. The hose brought water. Then he said, well, the part he thought was broken, it's not working. So, I need a new washer. I picked the washer and then the company I got sent to or I got emailed to, Whirlpool, they just gave me Friday morning appointment to come and change the washer. I had a question about that, and I called the company yesterday. I cannot get hold of them because it said the same thing. I need to clear everything around the machine or take out even the machine. But on the description on my side, it said, “Delivery standard. An installation company. And remove and haul away.” I can see that, if that's the correct thing. So, I don't need to move anything then.
It was easy to request service with American Home Shield, and they got me right away with the service provider. But after I got connected to the service provider, it took like a month. Now, it's already a month now since the machine broke up. We have to go to a laundromat now to wash clothes. It’s like a month just because I don't know what. They told me they ordered parts. After a week, I heard there was stuff around the machine. If that is not moving or the machine itself moving, we could not come and see. I called American Home Shield, and the lady told me that's what they say. I told them that I can move around everything, but not the tray. They want the tray out. That's what she told me. I tried. I couldn't even take it out. I told them. But I moved the machine. She asked me to send the picture to a phone number she gave me. I did send it.
Next day, they said that the services were done and they fixed it. But they were not even there. I had to call back again. They were not even here yet. I was still waiting for them to bring the part, and then they reestablished the service. They requested another part again, and then he came back after a week. When he came back out, hefixed it. It was all good when American Home Shield connected me with the service provider. But I don’t like the service providers.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you've endured with your washer repair and the challenges faced throughout the process. While it seems the initial ease of requesting service was promising, we're concerned about the extended service delays and any additional duties expected from you. Thank you for highlighting these areas surrounding contractor communication and expectations that we strive to perfect. Feedback like yours is invaluable. A round, plastic piece that goes over the bathroom knob broke. If you take both your hands and put them together in a circle, it's that big. That piece is now missing, and you can see into my wall. The contractor said the encasing they got won't go on with the knob. They told me that now my whole wall needs to be torn down. However, that piece was on there before they came to fix it. I don't get it.
American Home Shield sent somebody else but a different technician. The new plumber said, "No. We just need to get the right thing to extend it. And you don't need construction or anything." The first time they ordered it, the tech said somebody ordered the wrong color. The next time, he said he ordered it. When they first came, he sent me his number. He called from his number, and said to contact him if I had any issues. When I got home that evening, I sent him a message. I said, "Just asking if next time you guys come out, can you guys turn the light out because my light was on all day?" He never responded. He came back out after he ordered the parts that he said they needed. I was at work so I let them in the house by unlocking the door for them. When I got home that day, the box was thrown in the bathroom and the pieces were not even on my tub. He didn't call me back. They sent in whatever needed to be sent in.
I got an email saying that $300 more is needed. The last communication I had, he said nothing would be an issue. I wouldn't need any construction. So, I called the contractor. I said to the lady, "I'm trying to find out what's going on. Now I'm getting an email saying I need construction again when I was clearly told that wasn't gonna be the case. And also, my water heater in the bathroom is not getting hot." But it's hot in my other areas. I have to turn on the heater in my bathroom for my kids' water to get hot. That wasn't the problem before they came. She said, "Okay, I'm gonna get them to call you." I've been calling three days, still no one has called me back. How is it done and I still have these issues? It's not like an immediate urgency for AHS and they are washing their hands off it.

We called American Home Shield and everything about it was great. They were very nice. They set us up with a tech who came out. There are four cement things that keep that tub balanced. Inside those are the attaching hardware. The tech pulled all that out, and they were all broken. So, he replaced those. He was a young guy, but he knew what he was talking about. On the floor where the washer was, there seemed little chunks of something. I couldn't understand what it was. It was chunks of that cement. He knew immediately what it was. One day the washer seemed to be make a bit of odd noise. But when it started spinning at high speed, it smoothened out.

Then the dishwasher stopped powering up, and they came out and found out that the main control board had been burnt, so they replaced it. The dishwasher works now. I had a leak in my bathroom. American Home Shield sent out Leak Seekers but they didn't fix it. I had to call somebody out here. I had my whole bathroom remodeled to fix it. I called American Home Shield three years in a row to come out and fix it. But nobody fixed it. They kept saying it was the faucet. But it wasn't the faucet. It was a pipe inside my wall that was leaking, that rotted out my floor, that rotted out my walls, and caused mold in my bathroom. Nobody would fix anything. So, it cost me $18,000 to get my bathroom redone and repiped.
American Home Shield usually helps, but it's the people that they have coming out that are no good. They need better quality companies that work for them. What I like about them is their promptness and their coverage of what they cover. I do recommend them, but you have to stay on them to get something fixed. If they send somebody else out, you just call back and tell them you don't want that company and you want somebody else to come out.

So they came in and said, "Hey, we gotta order a part," and they left. They shipped the part to my house and then I had to call them and tell them, "Hey, I never heard from them. The part came in. They're gonna come put it in." "Yeah, we'll schedule a tech."
When they came back, the dude cut himself. He bled all over my kitchen and didn't say anything. My wife went in the living room after he left and saw blood all over a brand-new rug she just bought. My wife tried to call to let the company know but nobody answered. He did fix the microwave, which was a good thing. But it was like a circus trying to get it done.
We've been with American Home Shield for quite a few years now and that was the first time I ever had that issue with anybody. Usually, they're pretty good about somebody getting over there, like when my air conditioner had problems. The coverage was good. I had to just pay my deductible and everything else was covered.
Daniel, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We apologize for your experience with the microwave claim, as we want every claim to be a positive one. A service specialist will follow up with you to discuss your concerns in more detail.

I had flickering in my ceiling light in the hallway. I was concerned because the way the light bulbs were all dimming and flickering, it wasn't just a light bulb issue and more of an electrical issue. I wanted to have an electrician look at it so I sent in a claim online to American Home Shield. Then I got the email that said the contractor would contact me in 24 hours, which did not happen. So, then I reached out to Brown and they had apparently received 25 American Home Shield jobs in that 24-hour period, so they were a bit behind. So, that was why they were a little slow, which was totally acceptable. When the tech came out, he was a good guy. The only thing with American Home Shield is that when I noticed that my monthly payment with American Home Shield went from 40 to 60, it was okay. But I don't know why it went from around 60 to 80 recently.

I've had them for seven years. And every claim I've done, they've had somebody come out and I've been serviced. I had a refrigerator that broke, and I had a service request and had to go through a lot of stuff to get it. I submitted my claim online, but I had to call every day for three weeks. But American Home Shield was amazing. They made it right and replaced my refrigerator because they couldn't fix it. It wasn't them that had the issue. It was one of their service contractors that didn't know what they were doing.

I couldn't see the digital readout on the stove. I placed a claim to American Home Shield through their portal, and then it was all taken care of. They assigned a company to come out and take care of it. The tech was really super professional. He came out the first time, checked everything out, and then they had to order parts. As soon as the parts came right to the house, they came back out and fixed it. Everything is wonderful now. It never looked that good before.
I've had American Home Shield for a long time, and the communication is great. They let you know who's assigned almost immediately and then they'll be contacting you. I would recommend them. I would let others know how easy it is to do a claim. You do have to pay your fee, but you don't have to pay anything extra. Parts are included. It's great. I would never not have a home warranty.

When we called in September, the microwave would not heat up. It would run, but it wasn't heating anything up. The contractor came out multiple times, ordered parts, came back out again, ordered more parts, finally installed them and said it was fixed. It worked for five weeks and quit again. We started calling in the claims again, and Sears missed four appointments in a row where they kept moving the time up to almost nine o'clock at night, but they didn't show up.
In December, we filed another claim against this microwave which meant we had to pay a second $100 fee, and they missed the appointment for the 17th, the 24th, and the 31st. These are appointments that they scheduled. They didn't show up. When they finally showed up in January, they have come out twice and ordered parts. Two weeks ago, when the guy came out, he put parts in the microwave that he or one of the other ones had ordered. When he put the parts in before he even checked the microwave, he went ahead and closed the ticket while standing in my house with my dad.
When he closed the ticket, he called me and said, “By the way, the microwave is not working. I thought it was working. You'll have to call American Home Shield and open the ticket back up.” I said, “Why do I have to do that? You close the ticket out.” We went back and forth about that. I called AHS back again to reopen this ticket, so they reopened it, and they contractor is supposed to come tomorrow. But the problem with coming tomorrow is this guy didn't order the parts. That means when they come tomorrow, all they will do is order more parts, and we will do the same thing all over again. This has been an awful experience. I told AHS, “Y'all are gonna be the ones that caused me to change companies, because I'm not doing this. This is crazy, and I never had to do this before.” Pick another company.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

Maselli Contracting was sent out by American Home Shield for the heating system and the techs were very good and nice. In previous times, they had replaced the zone valves. This time, they checked out the furnace and said everything was working fine. It was extremely cold, so it would take time for the house to heat up. American Home Shield was a recommendation from my brother-in-law, who's in Las Vegas, and I’ve been with them for at least 10 years. Sometimes, they give us a hard time, but most of the time, they come through. But I don't like talking to a machine and by the time you get to a person, you've answered so many prompts. Summer Breeze, the contractor, scheduled a time to come out for the preventative maintenance promotion, and the technician arrived a whole hour early. I couldn’t just leave work. I explained that to him and told him he could wait, but he said they could reschedule it and that someone would call me. I never got a call, and it was never rescheduled, so I wasn’t able to take advantage of the promotion. I’m frustrated because I needed the service. My heat hasn’t been doing what it’s supposed to do, and it just needs a filter put in. They were going to put the filter in, and I don’t like going up in the attic because I’m terrified of it. I was expecting someone to come out and take care of it, but I never got the service.
I got the company’s number and tried calling, but when I called, no one answered. They had an AI system. I also called American Home Shield, and the person I spoke to said he would try to help me out, but I didn’t hear anything back. It’s just been frustrating. I usually don’t have any issues with this. When I need something, I can call American Home Shield and put a ticket online. It usually gets taken care of.
The communication between American Home Shield and the companies can be better, and they can make sure that everything is aligned. Because of that breakdown in communication, as the customer, I was left out in the rain just by myself. It made me upset that I did everything I was supposed to do and I did not get what I paid for. They didn’t bring the people out here. But American Home Shield is a good program and it’s not too expensive. If people need it, they can use it.

At one point, it got really warm, and then it ended up getting cold again but I wasn't able to set the temperature at all. I submitted this claim online which went fine. The only thing was there were some issues after submitting it. What happened was the techs came out, they took a look, and they told me they needed to order parts. They left and then online, it said that the dispatch had been closed and marked as resolved. This isn't the first time this has happened with American Home Shield where we've had the service provider mark something as resolved when they told us they were going to order parts and come back. I had a service request last year for the same refrigerator. They said they were gonna order parts. They closed it out without finishing it. That earlier claim that I had submitted last year never really got finished.
This time around, I spoke with customer service to try to get them to follow up on it. There were two refrigerators involved in this particular service request. They told me to open the request. The control board still needs to be replaced. They were supposed to follow up on it. American Home Shield could improve on their communication. There have been so many times that I've had to reopen something that got closed out wrongly and wasn't completed. In order to do that, I have to stay on hold on the phone for 45 minutes every time. There's got to be a way to do that online because it's nuts. Overall, if you have a lot of appliances and you have the time to follow up, AHS can be worth the price. American Home Shield sent Khan Gagaliev to fix a water faucet that was leaking. To start the claim process, I went on their website and did an online claim. Their website was user-friendly, but I don't think it had enough information and it did not allow me to put enough information on there. As far as the service person, initially, his interaction was good but then when he came back, I had some complaints because the faucet that he brought back to me didn't fit the faucet that was on it. He took pictures of what my faucet looked like and knew what I wanted based upon what my faucet looked like. So, that doesn't make any sense to me. Why won't they try to replace my faucet as close to what I initially had? He then told me that was what they sent him and that is what they would only replace it with.
When he took the faucet off, it had a hole in it. The circumference on that hole was bigger than the plate that they sent out to me. He said they don't make those. I told him he couldn't tell me they don't make those anymore. I could go right up to Home Depot and buy it. They sent a square deal that was much smaller, and so it didn't fill the hole. When I asked if they were gonna fix the hole, he said they were not gonna do that. I got to get somebody else to do it. I’m mechanically inclined. I'm not crazy. So, him and I went into this whole deal. Then he called somebody on the phone that, to me, I felt like he was pretending like he was calling somebody from American Home Shield. This person goes on to say the same thing and tell me this story about how American Home Shield was not gonna do that and do this. So, I just told him to put the faucet.
He put the faucet on, and it was the wrong size. I ended up having to pay somebody to come out, take that off, and fix the tile around it so there's no hole in my wall in my tub area. AHS did send somebody out to fix the back where they have to cut out to get to the faucet, but they didn't paint it. So, I had to pay to get the wall repainted myself.
I would recommend other people go with another home warranty service. I've been with American Home Shield for years, and I very seldomly call them to fix anything because I'm a handyman myself. I fix stuff myself, but this is one of those things where I didn't know what I was gonna be getting into. So, I was like, “Let me call and just have them come out and fix it.” I did call back after he did the repair and talked with somebody from there, and they gave me back the fee that they charge for coming out. If I have to call again, I do have that credited back. So, I appreciated that.
Dear Melvin,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We have confirmed that the faucet was replaced and that the sheetrock installation in the wall has been completed. As a courtesy, the service fee has been refunded, and the service call is now considered complete. Please let us know if you need any additional assistance. We are happy to help.

I opted for the cash-out and I only got 340 bucks. So I'm not really happy with the result of this one. But I've been happy in the past with other things. I also like the ease of being able to contact them and them sending people out. Sometimes I can't understand the people I'm talking to on the other end of the phone. Plus, the prices have gone up. When we started with them, it was $60. Now, we're way up there. But I recommend them quite often.

Zero stars is what AHS has earned from us! We paid in to the plan for a year and a half. Our first claim was denied for a $280 washing machine repair. We paid the $125 fee to AHS. They sent a company out and then denied the repair, stating that the problem was not caused by normal wear and tear. I asked for a copy of the estimate the company sent to AHS and they refused to share it. AHS stated that the repairman had written not from normal wear and tear in the estimate, but refused to share the estimate with us.
I called the company directly and asked to speak with the person who came to my house and submitted the estimate to AHS. I never received a call back from him. So basically, we’re out about $1000 of money we paid in to the plan plus the $125 fee for service. I cancelled my plan and let AHS know that what they’re doing is robbing people. What a scam!
I’m disabled on a limited income, which is why I felt that a home warranty plan was a good idea. Also, pay close attention to the qualifying exclusion clauses. They’ll find a way to deny the simplest of claims and refuse to share estimates from the companies they send. When you call AHS, be ready to speak with someone in India. Heaven forbid they employ Americans and pay taxes for that. ZERO STARS! Save your money and find reputable local small businesses for necessary repairs!

When I was getting ready to wash dishes and I went to use the garbage disposal that would make a whirling noise, my dishwasher wouldn't complete the cycle. I set up the appointment, they worked out a date as to when I would be off, and they sent a technician over. He called before he arrived and when he was here, he took a look at the problem and worked it out. The tech for the garbage disposal was quick and efficient. He put some dishwashing detergent into the sink, whirled it up, and used it. He also took the time to show me exactly what was wrong, and, if next time around I should have that issue again, what to do about it. Then, the second tech that came out needed an extension cord, and then he didn't need it. Since the service, everything has been working perfectly.
I was highly satisfied with both of the techs who came out. I wish I could have gotten around asking the second tech to show me exactly what he did and to walk me through the process as to what exactly was going on with the dishwasher. I asked American Home Shield if they covered this piece because it was part of my pool equipment and said they didn't cover anything related to electrical. I then purchased the equipment and I again contacted American Home Shield to have the contractor install it and check if the device was working. It's been a while, but no one has come in and the contractor still didn't contact me to come by. So, I just paid for the service request but no one is helping me to fix the issue.
I got a phone number for the contractor when I called the American Home Shield. They said they were going to contact them and they said they didn't respond. I called the contractor with the phone number and I sent a voice message for them to call me to schedule a time. Right now, it's been more than a week that I called them, and I haven't received anything yet. I'm a little concerned and I'm completely unsatisfied with American Home Shield because nothing is solved. 100 times I have to call American Home Shield and the contractor, and now American Shield doesn't respond to me. They have to follow up on that because they sent me the contractor. It's not my responsibility. Every day, I have to call the contractor to figure out when they will come out. But I bought this home warranty insurance and this should be the responsibility of American Home Shield.

Appliance Service Solutions was super quick in coming out for the refrigerator. I got a phone call the following day and within a couple of days, they came out. They were very polite and prompt. They knew what they were doing, and that was a good experience. American Home Shield has drastically improved their whole setup, from the ease of being able to do a claim online to being able to understand when you're talking to somebody. The help that they give now is awesome compared to how it used to be. Their contractor had to come back out a couple times for the refrigerator troubleshooting different things, but it was an old refrigerator and had a couple different issues. It was not a very pleasant experience years ago, but now it's top notch.

My parents referred me to American Home Shield and I just signed up for it. It took a month for it to kick in, but other than that, everything’s been good. I like everything that's going on. It's 125 right out the door, so it’s cheap and then everything's covered. I had two claims. One was for a dishwasher that wasn't working right. It wasn't filling up with water all the way. I did that claim over the phone and the rep was good. The service person who was assigned was good as well. He came over and noticed the problem right away. All it was was a cap that had to be screwed in and tightened down the water piece on the outside of the dishwasher. The service person was there for 10 minutes and the solution worked. I'd recommend people to get American Home Shield.
John,
Thank you for sharing your experience with American Home Shield and for the advocacy from your parents. We're thrilled to hear you're happy with the service, especially that the repair for your dishwasher was swift and effective. We strive to provide affordable and reliable coverage, and it's wonderful to know you're benefiting from that. I am in the middle of an issue with American Home Shield. I have been a customer of American Home Shield for over 18 years. I have yet to have one time where they have performed and covered anything that they said they would be covered. In this particular instance, on December 4th, my pool motor, which is insured with my program, my pool motor was making some very loud grinding noises. So I called American Home Shield, they sent somebody over, they said, "Oh, we don't cover it because it's still pumping. It's just making a lot of noise." I decided to call American Home Shield and cancel my policy. Because I said it's always the same thing, whether it's the water heater, my air conditioning. I always end up spending my own money and they just charge me for sending somebody to evaluate it. So they didn't cover it.
As I called to cancel it, they sent me to another rep who said, "Oh, no, don't cancel it. We will lower your price to $22 until April. And you shouldn't really worry because, if it makes that kind of noise, the motor will probably die between now and April." That was in December. Well, in January, the motor started stopping, starting, shaking and all kinds of things and then, eventually, it died. So now, American Home Shield sent somebody else over, charged me another $125, and then said, "Oh, we denied the claim because there was water infiltrating the motor." There was no water before. But because of all the shaking and grinding and all that, all of a sudden, there was water infiltrating into the motor. So they sent somebody who took the motor away in January. That was now. They took the motor away.
As of today, I'm still fighting to get the motor back. My pool is still without a motor and they keep telling me that they are trying and they will bring the motor back. But again, it's been over a month now and the pool is without motor. And I live in the desert. So fortunately, we had cold weather. But now, we have very hot weather and I'm still not getting any response.
Maurice,
I sincerely apologize for your experience, which seems particularly frustrating considering your long-term relationship with us. Addressing our customers' concerns is priority, yet reading about your pool motor and previous issues suggests we haven’t met that standard.

The contractor didn't help at all. The guy was super late. He came around 5:30 so he was done for the day. The issue I had with the HVAC was the coil. There was a leak. I told him what was going on but he didn't want to do anything. He took a quick look at the condenser. He saw a couple of hoses that were connected, left, and went to his car. He spent 30 minutes there on the phone. I went to check on him. I asked, “What happened? Are you gonna go inside and take a look? What's going on?” He said that because of those two hoses that were there connected that he couldn't do anything for it. That was it. He said he would notify American Home Shield about doing a second opinion. That was when it got rerouted to a different company.
The other company was able to schedule the appointment the following day. They came and did the analysis, came inside and looked at the air handler. They took out the little piece. They did the full diagnosis of what was really happening. They submitted the diagnosis, and requested for an upgrade. And they did an estimate to AHS. How it's supposed to be. The other one was to get it repaired. That took another two to three days. it was up to me to make a decision. I had an option to replace everything, and I had to pay some out of pocket. I had the option to get some cash, and I'll find my place and my own contractor, or I had the option to also repair it, but I also had to put some money out of pocket as well. It has already been fixed, and it's working. American Home Shield is not good with these types of things like HVAC units. Even though they say they cover up to 5,000, they don't. But when it comes to appliances, they're good.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience and that the coverage didn’t meet your expectations. A service specialist will be reaching out to you to discuss your concerns.

I used to make claims with AHS by phone, but now, I can just go online and do it. That is a simple procedure and it has always been easy for me. The outside unit froze up. When the tech looked at it right down the road, there was a short in the system. The wire was bad, and he fixed it. He said that was not abnormal, but he was able to find the other problem. He was nice and very helpful. He gave me some ideas on how to improve the situation and what I may have to be worried about in the future. Everything was like it was previously, before there was a problem.

Bennett Air came out for my recent AHS claim. My unit was blowing out cold air even when the heat was on. I submitted the claim through the app and it was pretty easy to get through. I like that I could chat with the tech if I needed to, but my particular issue didn't. It wasn't working, so there was nothing they could really help me with through the chat. When I tried to do the follow-up claim, it wouldn't work. It kept saying there was an error. Also, with the first chat, it may have taken them three minutes to respond. Then, when it took me two or three minutes to respond, they ended the chat, so I had to start all over.
But the tech who came out was really nice and thorough. I did look at a few different things. He tried explaining, like he were talking a foreign language to me. But he said he had to make a change, and it should be fine, and it was. Before he left, he confirmed. We could even smell that the heat was working. It was very efficient. But something happened yesterday, when we got home, it was a little cool. But I didn't really pay much attention until last night. I said we'd see if it heats throughout the evening. But this morning, it was 62 degrees in the house with the heat still on. I just submitted a follow-up claim, and if they can come back out to see what's wrong.
I had coverage with Choice Home Warranty, and the pricing was about the same, even though AHS just went up $20. I don't know where that came from. But the pricing at the time, I was only paying $10 more. The copay was a little more, but based on what I talked to the sales rep, the coverage of what was covered was a lot better. At the time when I first moved into my house, it was an as-is, so there were not a whole lot, but about five to seven service calls in that first eight years. And they only fixed one. Everything else, I had to come out of pocket with. And that's not the way it was explained to me. If I'm paying them to come out and then I still have to pay full price to get something fixed, they're not covering anything. So, I went with AHS, and so far, I haven't had that same problem. The initial representative I talked to was amazing. She's probably the reason why I switched over. I was really worried about coming over and paying that higher copay. She offered me copay waivers for my first cases. She said it will only be good for the year.

On the positive side, American Home Shield is very automated, compared to other warranties. Everything is in the app, and it's organized. They have video chat. The technology is good. On the negative side, it has many, many non-qualified technicians. For instance, if your refrigerator is broken, they may send you someone who is only an expert in washing machine. So, you may need to go through multiple technician company to finally have someone who's an expert come and take a look and resolve the issue. The contractor that was sent out for the AC was good. I'm not an expert about air conditioning, but I thought they would have diagnosed the more serious problem of the fan motor earlier. First, they came out because they said it was some small stuff and they fixed it. Then they had to come out a few weeks later to replace the fan motor. My tenants are happy. The problem got fixed. But the contractor had to come out twice to fix the problem.
American Home Shield is great, and the people who fixed the problem were very nice. The tech was there very early in the morning to take care of me. It was his first appointment. Upon my calling the company and letting them know the seriousness of the situation, because they had a very bad cold spell and had no heat in the house, they heeded very much to my call. So I was very content with that.
The contractor had very good customer service. They were very serviceable. They were also nice. I was just kind of leery because the problem wasn't diagnosed initially and that caused two trips instead of one. But you can't know everything about equipment and might go wrong with it. I don't expect anybody to be a magician if in fact there was no way to tell that the fan motor was bad from the first time they came out there and inspected the air conditioning system.
I always like to look out for people who try to do good, and I know AHS tries to do good because they offer a good price for something that's very important to homeowners, especially people who rent like me, who have rental property. So having something like AHS is a godsend. It is a very good company. It's a very good thing that they're doing, and I'm very grateful that it exists and that I have it. Everybody should be on the up and up when it comes to something like this. Nobody should be trying to take advantage of the situation because that will hurt everyone concerned.

The toilet was clogged and SDL Plumbing came out the first time and unclogged it. It was a younger man who came. The following week, it stopped up. A gentleman came and he also unstopped it so it was working and that was it. So the third time, I called the company again and I told them we were having a problem with the toilet again. I explained things and they said I had to contact American Home Shield to find out if they were gonna pay for it. I said, "Well, it's the same toilet. Why would they not pay for it?" I hung up with him and I called American Home Shield immediately and I was talking to the young lady. She said she would change companies so they can come out. I told her, "Well, he wasn't rude. He was just trying to explain what he thought and for me to call too."
While I was on the phone with her, they called American Home Shield and I don't know exactly what he said, but the AHS rep told me that they were not gonna come a third time. So I told her, "Well, you know what? If he called and said that, then he lied to me. And no, I don't want them coming back to the house." It's not American Home Shield's fault in this situation that the company, at the end of the day, didn't wanna be the responsible one to come out and really finish and make sure the toilet's working.
I do like that I can quickly report something through the AHS app and try to set up something when an issue has occurred. A new thing that my husband and I both like is that we can do the video chat with a professional and it's free of charge. It's included within what we're paying. That has been a really great update. As far as improvement, sometimes it takes a little long for a service to get going. So, what I do typically to circumvent that is once I get the name and phone number of the company, I typically call because I don't wanna wait five days before someone calls me.

It's easy to go online and do a service request with American Home Shield and have someone call you back. I get responses quickly. They're prompt and very responsive. Even if I have called a couple of times and said, "Hey, is there any way I can lower my bill?" They've worked with me on that a couple of times. The prices keep going up which is expected. Also, everyone's nice. I've never had anyone be rude or give me an attitude because I asked a thousand questions. I can understand how sometimes you get contracts, so you sign up for these things, and it would be a lot of jargon. I can understand everything that I signed up for. And I can clearly understand what I can get serviced, which can be hard on some of the sites, like knowing what's covered and for the amount you pay monthly. I like that.
Recently, a plumber came and assessed the issue. He was polite. He told me what he thought it was. He gave me some information about the tub, which I knew the tub was old, but I didn't know it was fiberglass. He pointed out some things. He gave me some information. He even checked the bathroom and the main bedroom. He checked the en suite shower in there. He said that the stems look good in there. Besides the stems being loose, the showerhead spew water out, which my son didn't tell me, and it hit the wall. The plumber thought that could be contributing to the water leaking down into the ceiling in the dining room. He either replaced them or tightened up the stems or the diverters, and replaced the showerhead. He told us to start using that bathroom immediately, and if we see any leaks within 30 days, to call them back so he can come reassess or replace something, but we haven't had any leaks.

The repair guy was nice. I just was upset about the warranty part that AHS covers. I didn't think it was fair that I had to pay for the guy to repair the chain, I had to pay for the door, then I had to pay for a part of the labor that he did as well. My part came to a total of 3,100-something. That was a lot and AHS only paid maybe $200. I don't think it's fair that I've been with them for over 20 years and then I wind up paying for the bulk.
Also, AHS raises the price every year, and I've used the service just some. So, it doesn't benefit me that much, especially from the last claim that I had. So, I'm actively looking for another warranty that has a little bit better coverage. I got my family and a business on with American Home Shield. But now, I would not recommend them. Then what did your person fix? Immediately canceling service. Wasted 40 days of premiums, but will save the rest. DO NOT GIVE A CENT TO THIS SCAM COMPANY!

American Home Shield didn't have the oven that I originally had, so they worked with me and gave me cash to buy it at the local store to replace it. I was a little frustrated. I had to be a self-advocate and I made phone calls in order for them to replace the original oven. I had to look for oven myself, but I'm lucky that I was able to replace it anyway, and they paid me for it. So it was a good experience.
I usually call American Home Shield on the phone, and I did the automatic service. Right away, the technicians call me back or send me an email text telling me at what time and day they were going to come. I didn't have a choice of the timing. They just gave me a time. But I'm retired, so I was open to it. The only problem I had is that they sent a technician, and the technician didn't want to do it by himself because of where the oven is placed. He said that he needed two people to do it, even though I offered to help just unplug it, he didn't want to do that.
This gentleman had come to my house many times, and he's very capable, professional, and experienced. I really like him. He told me, “No, we have to make another appointment so two people can come in.” So unfortunately for me, it was for another week. The day of the second appointment was at eight o'clock, and the appointment was supposed to be underway, but then they told me that it was canceled, and they gave me another appointment for five days later. So that was when I had certain issues. Eventually, American Home Shield gave me another company, so they could look at the oven sooner than that.
The day that they had made the second third appointment, the technician called me to tell me that he could not make it. So I was told that Sears does not do two-people jobs anymore. It's only a microwave oven. It's not like you need two people to fix or take out a microwave oven. It's just that the first gentleman didn't feel comfortable pulling it out himself and having the client to unplug it, which I understand, but I’ve done it before.
The problem was the coordination of the appointment for the repair. So when the third appointment technician came over, he looked at the oven, and he told me, ‘You need to replace it.” But this was the first time I have that experience. Usually, it's okay, but I had cancelations, and no notice. They just gave me whatever time they wanted, and that was not a good experience. Overall, American Home Shield is a good company. It's been very useful to me. I'm a 65-year old single woman. I don't want to have to deal with technicians. Having American Home Shield is very, very convenient, and it’s a lot easier for my situation.
Bettina,

Appliance Keep Up came out for a follow-up for my washer and dryer. They fixed my washer and dryer, but the dryer is still having an error code. The washing machine was leaking water and then leaked down to my kitchen, through the ceiling. I had to call them to have them come back out and look. But with my refrigerator, they could not fix it. So, they replaced it. They gave me an equal change out for the refrigerator that I have. I would definitely tell others to go for AHS and do it.
Cierra,
Thank you for sharing your experience with Appliance Keep Up regarding your washer, dryer, and refrigerator. We're glad to hear that their resolution included providing you with a replacement refrigerator, and we appreciate your willingness to recommend this service. My experience over the last three years with American Home Shield has been very positive. It has been one of the better companies. I've had a few warranty programs and AHS has been the most responsive as well as the best at paying the actual bill. I've had two others other than AHS. They are all similarly named. They do that on purpose. They try to copy AHS. However, I would turn a claim in and they'll find out they will not cover it for whatever reason. I got to a point, "This is ridiculous. What am I paying for if you're never going to cover anything?" I have yet to have that issue with American Home Shield. They're a decent program.
The tech pulled out the refrigerator. All he had to do was reseat the waterline to the valve that comes out of the wall. He had to finagle it. He said sometimes those things start to leak a bit and they have to be reseated in a certain way. He put some plumber tape stuff there and all's well. But I called because I was concerned. It was drip, drip, drip and it's right there at that valve that comes out of the wall to hook up for your water to your refrigerator. I didn't want to just do my own little monkey fix and find out that it's leaking inside the wall. But according to him, it's not leaking in the wall. He said he was concerned about that. He removed the panel and looked at the valve itself to make sure that there's not any leaking on the pipe in the wall, he reseated everything and it worked. He was quick. He let me know what he was doing and said, "Make sure you do this and don't do that."
This is the first time it has taken a month or more. Normally, it's a within and a half. The first time, they came out and said, "You're using two filters. You're using a reverse osmosis and the filter in the refrigerator. That can really slow down the production of the water to the ice maker bad. So it looks like the motor is working. From what I can tell, it's just not getting enough water. Because you have water going to your refrigerator, so I don't see why it would not make ice." I said, "Okay." "Here's our number. Call us tomorrow." I called them, "Nope, it's still not making ice. I took the filter out like you asked." They said, "Okay, we're going to come and put a new ice maker." They came, put a new ice maker in, but it still did not making ice. I had to call back.
The only thing I didn't like that I thought was repetitive is the technician is knowledgeable and knows what he's doing. He said, "If I got to come back, then it needs to be X." I told the dispatcher that technician already knows what needs to be done. But rather than having a system in place where they can see, "Okay, if they got to go back out there for this, this is what needs to be done," they start from square one and go all the way back and send somebody to your house again. "Oh, yeah, I've been here. I already know what needs to be done." They waste a bunch of time and money for them whereas if they would have a system in place and say, "This is what we need to replace," they could go, "Okay. Yeah, our guy already said this is what's going to have to be done. If we got to go back out, we'll get it on order." They don't do that.
Patrick,

I had some bad times before with AHS. In fact, I left them, and I tried them again. On this second go-around, so far, so good. So far, it's been working for me. I like that you pay one fee. And you normally don't have to pay anything else. The only thing is, if something happens on a Friday, then you're gonna have to suffer through it until Monday. There are no companies available to come out for what the customer deems an emergency.

I'm very dissatisfied right now with American Home Shield. I've complained to them over and over, but there's no way around certain things. The company that they were sending out has this system where it says, "Please hold. You'll be answered in the order." Whenever I had to schedule an appointment because they would never get the claim on time or it takes forever, I would be 20 minutes on hold before they pick up the phone. I've seen so many complaints about American Home Shield as well on another page. They have a lengthy process, and I used to be okay with it until now.
American Home Shield keeps sending the same people to fix my stove, my washing machine and my dryer, and I don't want to deal with those people, Appliance Repair Experts. They are not experts. It took them at least three months to fix my oven. The technician came back and kept changing parts like he did not know what he was doing. He didn't even diagnose it properly. He did the same thing with a dryer. They jumped the gun. When I mentioned Sears, the technician said, “Sears, they can't fix anything. They don't know how to fix anything." The technician claimed that they were better than Sears, but I think Sears would have come out here and said, "This appliance is just worn and old and it needs to be replaced." I requested American Home Shield send a second person, but they would not 'cause once the claim was open, they had to close it out.
Initially, Appliance Repair Experts looked at our dryer, then the technician told us, “It caught fire right there.” He submitted a report that it needed some parts, but maintenance would not be covered. Routine maintenance was needed, and I had to pay out around 400 dollars before any maintenance was performed. Once that was done, we let the company know, then they had me send them pictures and videos of what it looked like on the inside 'cause they wanted to make sure that it got done right. After that, they came out and put the roller parts on. When the technician left, he said, "It needs another part. It's not heating right. So, you can use it like that in the meantime.” Finally, Appliance Repair Experts came out and put the thermostat in.
We turned the unit on and it began making a noise like if something is rubbing, not the noise it was making before when the technician changed the rollers out. I called right away and told the technician, but he said that it was normal. I had had it, so I called to cancel our subscription to American Home Shield, but the lady talked me into, "Just open another claim. It's only 30 days. If it’s within the 30 days, but it has to be the same people again." I said, "Okay. Good luck. It takes you 20 minutes to get through for an appointment." She called Appliance Repair Experts and they said, "We haven't received it in the email. Once we do, we'll call him." They called me yesterday and I called them back today.
Appliance Repair Experts was gonna schedule an appointment, but before they did, the lady started asking me questions, "But is it working? Is it drying the clothes?" I said, "Yeah. It's drying the clothes, but it's noisy." She made it seem like that's perfectly fine and normal, but I want to see her having a noisy appliance in her house. She did not even make an appointment with me. She said, "Let me call you back. I've got to speak to my supervisor." I'm waiting for them to decide, and it's always, "Let me ask my supervisor. He's the one that's gonna decide" over and over.
I've even called one time and the guy I talked to told me that he did not have a boss. He said, "I am the boss." and hung up on me. I thought, "The appliance caught fire. I don't want an appliance that caught fire in my home anymore." The technician didn't write it and Appliance Repair Experts failed to send in a report that the machine caught fire because they were adamant that they could fix it. They want to fix the machine 'cause they don't get paid if they don't. It took them four months to finally fix it and now, it's noisy and they don't want to make an appointment for me. I don't want to deal with them anymore. I'm done with them. They should have had this appliance replaced. It's old already and it's got a lot of wear and tear. They just want to replace all these parts inside of it.
I tried to ask American Home Shield, "Just replace my appliance already. Give me a new one," but that didn't work either. I'm on medicine right now. I'm really stressed out and I don't need this experience in my life. Being perfectly honest, I would tell people, "Don't get it. Save your money. And when your appliance breaks down, buy."

I called up American Home Shield and the rep that I talked to was nice. I've only been with them for three months, but so far, so good. I'm satisfied. It was pretty easy to submit a claim. When the first tech came out, I didn't get to meet. We did speak over the phone. They came a little bit earlier than I expected, but was able to fix the issue. With the second tech, I did get to meet in person. We chit-chatted, and he was really down-to-earth, professional, and friendly. I'm still dealing with him because they have to order the part. Once they have the item for the garage door then we have to schedule when they're gonna be able to come and install it and finalize the work.

I have a good price with American Home Shield because I've had it for a few years. I've used them twice and I always call to file claims. It's easier for me to make a phone call than get online. I recently placed a claim and it was fine, except that it took four days before they were able to schedule it. Everything else was fine. A1 Appliance Repair came out to fix my dishwasher. They had to go in through the disposal and clean out the hose. They had to take it out, clean it out in order to fix the dishwasher. It's working now.

The air was only working intermittently. It would stop working and then not come on, but then at other times, it just would come on. I placed a claim for it online through American Home Shield's website. There was really no way to communicate with anybody. It's crappy. They'd come out, they would do something, and then it would work. Then after my 30 days was up, it would stop working 3 days later. There's no way to communicate that to anybody at AHS to say the guys they sent didn't fix anything, so that's frustrating. They do what they're supposed to do, but it’s winter here and my heater stopped working. I have a newborn at the house and I'm calling them. I'm calling different people, too, but AHS has a bigger network than I do. I called some of the local places and nobody could come out right away. AHS didn't set that precedence for it being the middle of winter.

I've had American Home Shield since I bought the condo three years ago in Florida. However, as soon as it comes up for renewal, I'm gonna drop it. Stay away as far as you can. They're worthless. The contractor came out and put two new ice makers in the refrigerator, but they never worked. They came back and came back. After the fifth time, the guy said, "Did anybody check the compressor?" I said no. He checked it and said, "That's gone too." Before then, the refrigerator worked. It was just the ice wasn't made. Now, the refrigerator is not working. I get a call that it would be over a week before the contractor will come out. I just said, "The hell with it" and bought a refrigerator. This is ridiculous. It's supposed to be repaired. American Home Shield is supposed to replace it if they can't repair it. They didn't do anything.

In mid 2024, I received a phone solicitation from AHS to purchase a home warranty. Since many of my appliances had seen better days including an older HVAC system, I purchased the plan only after inquiring about the coverage for my air conditioning unit. I was told that the plan covered it up to $5,000, seemed like a no brainer, so I went along.
A couple of weeks ago, our system failed, I paid a $125 service fee for their a/c dealer's visit and assessment. His advice was to purchase Brand A at a cost of $16,500 and AHS would pay $1,500 toward the purchase. I found the same Brand with a better seer rating for an installed price of $13,000, a 5 star rated dealer versus AHS's 2 star rated dealer and next day installation, a savings of more than $3,500. Thereafter, AHS agreed to pay only $532.00 since I was not using their dealer at the higher purchase price. Bottom line, AHS and their dealer appear to overcharge customers in certain transactions to the disadvantage of customers. "Buyer Beware"! Ken K

If give 0 stars if I could. Purchased a condo in Los Angeles for our daughter to live in. The previous owner had purchased a refrigerator five years ago. American Home Shield refuses to cover the refrigerator because they claim that there’s a manufacturer's warranty. However, the manufacturer will only give that warranty to the original purchaser, which is not us. Despite telling them this multiple times, they are not listening, and now we have to pay to get the refrigerator fixed on our own dime. Will cancel my plan and will not use them for my brand new home in Utah. My warranty there expires in May and I was going to use AHS for a home warranty once it’s up. But no more. Avoid this company.

I had an issue with my stove. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the techs they sent out did the repair on that. The next issue I had was with my ice maker in my refrigerator. The techs came out and they told me that the ice maker needed to be replaced. Then someone else came back out and told me that it was not the ice maker, it was the ice bucket that should be replaced. So, they put a new ice bucket in. But after they did that, the ice bucket broke off into our ice, into our water, and I swallowed it.
When I called them back about the bucket being broken, I spoke with someone then a gentleman came out. He told me that the whole ice maker needed to be replaced, but it's just the ice bucket that's broken in the end where the ice won't come down. In the end, they didn't do the repair. American Home Shield then said that they could no longer have the refrigerator repaired, so now I have a refrigerator that's not covered. I got tired of the whole thing because the techs had been out six times for the ice maker.
But I don't have a problem with American Home Shield. The problem was with the appliance company that repaired the refrigerator. This is the second time I've been with American Home Shield and they've been great. The reason why I came back to them was because they don't overcharge. With the previous company that I was with, when the techs come out for your stove and your refrigerator, they charge you a fee for both of them. But American Home Shield doesn't. If there's a problem with five appliances in your house, they charge you one fee for all of them when the tech comes out. So, my when stove and my refrigerator would go out, they would just charged me $100, not a $200 fee.

I like American Home Shield. I recently had a claim for my refrigerator and the tech they sent out went into the freezer compartment, pulled out the inside back wall panel, and took a bunch of ice that had frozen between that back wall and got all that out. Then he was able to get to where the fan in the freezer was located and saw that it was no longer working. Also, he was able to use some hot water, and he had something like a hypodermic needle with which he was able to thaw all the frozen coils that were in that inner panel area. He did a wonderful job.
When he finished and put things back together, he told me that he was going to have to order that fan part, and when it came in, they would schedule and come and install it. Once he got all the ice out between the inside back wall of the freezer, the freezer was working. It was always working, but it was too frozen. So, I was able to put all my frozen food back in my refrigerator, which wasn't cooling enough but starting to cool better now that the ice and all have been removed. Then, it took another week or so before the part was in and the appointment was set up. But everything's fixed. All in all, I had a really good experience and I would recommend American Home Shield highly.

Tonight I got a call letting me know my warranty had been declined due to “dust and debris” being the reason it’s not cooling... We live in a big, old Victorian house. It's 125 years old, and we have air conditioning, but the air conditioning systems are old, which is why I thought having American Home Shield would be a good idea. The original email solicitation talked about air conditioning. I said, "If we have to end up having replacing air conditioning system whenever I pay 79 or 80 something dollars a month, it would be good for me.” Within the first month, I had this plumbing situation come up. A few weeks later, I had this washing machine thing come up. Everything worked exactly the way AHS promised it would. That's remarkable, because in any kind of consumer situation, I'm more used to expecting to be disappointed than pleased. But I've had two interactions with AHS, and both of them have been exactly as they promised it would when they sold me the policy.
AHS handled things quickly and efficiently. The technicians they sent have resolved the situation. I would have every intention of renewing with AHS. I've already recommended them to a couple of other people because I've been positively impressed. I told them, "These guys are very legit. They've done everything they've said." I have always shied away from these kinds of home repair warranties because I always felt they were unlikely to be legit or serviceable. But my experience with AHS has been very good. If I never have another claim with them, I would still be happy with the service I've received so far and the peace of mind and saying, "If something goes wrong with one of the sort of infrastructures in the house, I know I have somebody I feel pretty good about relying on.” I've been turned into a non-skeptic.
The last claim, our washing machine stopped. It didn't stop working, but it banged around and made a lot of bad noises. There was something wrong. I went on to American Home Shield's app and I filled in relevant lines. It said, “Do you want to report or make a claim?” I said, “Yes.” It showed of a menu of the things that they cover. I checked an appliance, and from there, it gave me a menu of what was the appliance in question. They said, "Okay. A technician will be in touch with you in the next 24 to 48 hours." The following day, I got called by a local appliance repair company, and they made an appointment to come the following day and look at it.
The tech had to call us back and reschedule because another call he was on was running late, which is understandable. Things happen. But he came when he said he would come for the rescheduled appointment. He immediately went to the machine, looked at it, and judged the issue within minutes. He realized the gravity of the problem. He said, "If I try to repair this thing, it's probably going to cost $900 to $1,000 and you could probably replace it for around $700. So, I have to condemn the machine, because it's not worth the price of repair." I said, "Okay. Whatever is the appropriate thing." He said, "We'll let American Home Shield know." They did it that day, because I heard from AHS by the end of the day. They gave me my options, which included ordering another machine through them or a Lowe's gift card or just a refund of the value that they assessed the machine to be.
The problem with ordering a new machine through them was it would take a week and a half to get the machine. We have four people living in the house. That wasn't practical for us. So, we just took the money, which I was a little skeptical about because I thought, "We go out and buy a machine, how do we know we're going to get the money?" But we did go out and bought another machine, and it was delivered within a day. A day after that, we got the money that AHS deposited it into our checking account for what they claimed as the value of the machine. The machine we bought wasn't the same amount, but I was very pleased. We had to pay a little over $800 for the machine with the delivery. They gave us $791. It was seamless and quick. It paid for our membership. Sign up for AHS. If you have concerns about the longevity or the state of repair of your home's various systems, AHS seems like a good plan.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for the generous five‑star review. We’re thrilled to hear that our team delivered the reliable, efficient support you were hoping for. It’s wonderful that both your plumbing and appliance claims were handled smoothly and that the process—from submitting a claim to receiving your reimbursement—felt seamless and trustworthy. For my recent AHS claim, Air Express came out and worked on our heating. They fixed it. AHS is reliable if you get the right vendor. I had the wrong one a couple of years ago, and they had to buy us a new General Electric refrigerator because they destroyed it. The guy was just awful. Finally, AHS sent out a General Electric man. He said, “This can't even be fixed.” We had to fight for six to eight weeks to get this fixed, without a refrigerator. You can't find the President or the Vice President, or the communications director. They're not available anywhere. You can't get through to them on the phone, you can't write to them. They hide it at American Home Shield.
Also, their price has gone up to $125, so along with $100 I pay a month, that gets a little expensive. So per month, if you have a call, you're $225. That's expensive for insurance. But I submit claims online, and it's much better than it was a few years ago. They have made some changes and made some improvements that are customer-friendly.
Jerry,
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience. We're pleased to hear that the recent service with Air Express UH provided prompt assistance. However, we truly regret to hear about your previous challenges and the ordeal involved with your refrigerator. My recent claim with AHS was for a garbage disposal that didn't work, so they replaced it. And they did a great job. I was very happy with it. Submitting the claim was easy. It took a while to get it approved, and then you have to wait for the plumber to come in and do an assessment. That took a little bit, like two weeks or so. But it wasn't anything particularly that I was worried about. I'm very happy with AHS's service. I'd buy the policy again.
Karen,
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with us! We're delighted to know that you're happy with both the successful replacement of your garbage disposal and the ease of our claims process. All the contractor told me was it needs to be replaced. I didn't end up having it replaced because it would have cost me 500 bucks. It wasn't covered by AHS. Horrible Service. I've paid 3 fees for someone to come out and repair my AC. At first, an AC Company sent 2 technicians. Paid $100. They were both high out of their mind, so we didn't let them into our home. I called again and AHS sent out a different company. Although the technician was courteous, he did not have the part on his truck and was told to purchase my own Thermostat and replace it and that should solve the issue. I AM NOT AN AC TECHNICIAN. I called in again. Charged another $100.
Technician tells me that the wires in the AC Unit are fried and need to be re-spliced but that I need to get AHS to send an electrician out first. I call in, Charged another $100 fee. Then no one comes out. I then receive an email asking if my service has been completed to my satisfaction. I say NO!!! Contact me at your earliest convenience as my AC Still doesn't work. I wait (busy with work) and decide to call to see what's going on. They tell me from (who knows where) that it's been 30 days so now I will have to pay another $100 to get a dispatch out again. This is ridiculous!!
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Tony. We’re truly sorry for the frustration, inconvenience, and multiple service fees you’ve had to deal with. What you described is not the level of service we want any member to experience, and we understand how upsetting this situation has been, especially with your AC still not working after several visits.

American Home Shield is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Their service is unacceptable and extremely frustrating. They consistently assign Air Temp, a contractor that seems more focused on finding ways to avoid honoring the AHS contract and charging customers extra than actually fixing the problem. On top of the monthly fee and the $100 deductible, they schedule service at their convenience, not yours, and every visit turns into another issue or excuse. There is always something “not covered,” “not in the contract,” or “outside the range.” It feels like their business model is built around denying claims rather than helping customers.
Customer service is equally disappointing. Communication is difficult, the call center environment is noisy, and representatives often seem disconnected and unhelpful. There is no sense of urgency, accountability, or genuine concern for the customer. Overall, this company does not stand behind its promises. If I could give zero stars, I would.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

I’ve been an American Home Shield customer for several years, and this recent experience has completely destroyed my trust in the company.
My refrigerator ice maker stopped working because an internal part failed to open and dispense ice — clearly normal wear and tear. I submitted a video service request through the AHS app. The technician confirmed it wasn’t working properly and scheduled an in-person visit. I took half a day off work waiting for the tech. He walked in, snapped a few photos, said he had to order parts, and left. Shortly after, AHS emailed saying parts were ordered.
A few days later, I got a call saying the repair was denied because we “physically damaged” the unit — which is ridiculous since the broken part is inside the refrigerator and can barely be accessed. After arguing with them, they agreed to send a second company for another opinion. I wasted another half day off work waiting. This technician actually took the door apart and properly diagnosed it. He confirmed it was normal wear and tear and said the first tech ordered the wrong part — the repair was mostly labor.
Despite that, AHS emailed again denying coverage and quoted $670 out of pocket. At that point I tried to cancel. After 30 minutes on the phone being transferred around, I was promised a $200 refund and a lowered monthly payment to “give me time to reconsider with no strings attached.” After hanging up, I received an email saying it was only a $100 credit — which I never even received. I then disputed the $100 service fee I paid for a claim they refused to honor.
Today I tried canceling through chat. The agent said they needed time to review notes, asked if I was still there, and while I was typing back the chat was abruptly ended. Every attempt to reconnect was immediately closed. I even escalated to the executive office and spent weeks going back and forth. They claimed they issued the credit, so I sent credit card statements and chat transcripts proving they didn’t. Their final response was basically “we sent it — take it up with Citibank.”
After paying thousands of dollars over the years, the one time I needed coverage I was denied, blamed, misled about refunds, and given the runaround. This entire experience feels like a scam. You pay month after month only to be insulted and refused when something actually breaks. Save your money and avoid American Home Shield.

Several outlets and our ceiling fan had just stopped working. And there didn't seem to be anything going on in the breaker box or any GFI circuits that could be involved. I submitted a claim with AHS online, and I had to have techs come out to figure out what was going on. AHS's website was fairly easy to use. You say you want to submit a claim and then you select the type of claim it is, and then start putting in some details. I was given the name and number of the company that had been sent the ticket.
The techs who came out were great. They were absolutely fantastic. They listened to me and checked everything. They were able to figure out what was going on. It was something that I never would have been able to figure out. Initially, we thought everything was fixed. Not long after they left, I realized that while the ceiling light was working, the ceiling fan was not. It turned out that it was more or less the same problem. There was a separate switch for the fan, and a wire had come loose. They came out and fixed it. Everything's fine again.
We appreciate the positive feedback and are delighted to hear that you found our website easy to navigate and that the technicians could promptly identify the issues with your outlets and ceiling fan. We're glad that, despite the need for a return trip to address the separate switch issue, your services are now fully restored. Cool Works came out. We had one of the cold nights here in Florida, which we don't get often. Our heat was working fine when we went to bed. When we woke up, our house was like 60, and it was blowing out cold air. It was showing that it was trying to heat the house, but only cold air was coming out. So, we waited for the day and tried to see if we can get it to come back on and get warm. It did warm up a little bit. It started blowing out warmer air, but it never blew out hot air, so it was never getting to temperature. So, we've made the claim with American Home Shield. They sent someone out.
In the meantime, I started doing my own research, and apparently, here in Florida, something can happen where if it's too cold outside, it'll defrost where it will blow cool air instead of hot air. I'm from the North so that never happened before that. So when the gentleman came, he did everything. He said the reason on what caused that cold air to come through is probably it defrosting. He said, “Unless I could see it happening immediately, right in front of me, I can't tell you if that's exactly what it is. But I pretty much can tell you that's probably what it was, so sometimes, you'll have that issue when it gets too cold out, as the heaters here in Florida will actually blow out cool air while it's defrosting.” He said it's working efficiently and there's no problem with the unit itself, besides the way the system was built.
I've had good experiences with American Home Shield. I use their app and it is fast and efficient. What I like about the service is, when we file a claim, usually, within 24 hours, we have an answer. Someone's coming out, or we have a game plan. That's nice. Not having heat and then knowing you're not going to see someone for 24 hours in Florida is not a big deal. In the North, I would want someone out immediately. AHS does a good job on reaching out to their subcontractors and getting people scheduled for us.

Our microwave oven recently stopped working. I submitted a claim online. The website was easy to use. You just fill out the ticket, put your model number of the appliance, which I did, and then submitted it. You pay the fee for the initial consultation and then American Home Shield scheduled it. The contractor was very pleasant and nice. They came in, initially looked it over, determined what the problem was. He actually had to replace the door of the microwave. The tech was able to replace the door without having to replace the whole microwave, and he was great. He was timely, submitted a appointment and called us. He was good.
I originally got the coverage because when we built our house, we had all the new appliances put in the house, and in one year, I had to replace every single appliance. And that was a hefty, hefty sum. And it's very hard in this area where we live to get technicians in a timely manner because when I tried to get a technician to come out, they said it would be two months before they would even be able to see us. And when you go without a washing machine for two months, that's just about impossible. A friend of mine recommended American Home Shield to say that every time he's ever had to call for a technician, he's always gotten somebody in a timely manner. And they fix it, and it's over with. So it was cost-effective for us because we had to go out and buy all new appliances at one-time, and we didn't wanna have to go through that same situation. If we had one appliance go out and then another multiple times, it's more cost-efficient for us. And then it makes good sense when you live in a area where it's hard to find a technician that you guys do the work and you find them and you bring them in.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're pleased to hear that the claim process for your microwave was straightforward, and that our contractor was able to provide a timely and effective solution by replacing just the door. It's also reassuring that our service serves you well, given the challenges in your area in finding prompt technical support. We’re proud to be a cost-effective option for homeowners like yourself and appreciate your confidence in us. Please count on us to assist you whenever needed in the future.

I had two different companies come out for a plumbing claim. The first company ran a snake to fix the drain, but it clogged up again, so I called them out again, and they sent somebody else different. The first guy that came out, he seemed a bit inexperienced, and he was a pretty young guy, but I'm assuming he knew what he was doing. However, I noticed a couple of days later that underneath my sink, not only was it still clogging, underneath my sink, it was leaking water. It wasn't doing that before.
So, what apparently happened was when he put the screw back in or whatever it is down at the bottom, he stripped it out, and he didn't screw it in correctly. So, water was leaking. So, they sent a new guy. When I did that report, they sent a different guy, 'cause I requested a different person from the same company. They came, and he did another snake, and he had to go to the store and get another one of those screws to screw it in 'cause it was stripped out. So, he fixed that leak. But a couple of days later, my drain was still clogging up. They were clogging up. So, I requested to have another company came out, and this is when that second company came out.
The guy from the second company came out, and again, after he left, I still had another problem. So, I called them back and wanted somebody else to come out. The new company came, and then they ran a snake, and it didn't work. But they made a diagnosis that what I need to have done is a jet clean. That's different than running a snake. Jet clean cleans the whole pipe out.
However, my problem is my house doesn't have a cleanout outside. Right? It only has a cleanout inside the house. So, in order to use that jet clean, if you do it inside the house, he said it could be messy, it could cause water damage. So, he recommended that I get a cleanout put in. And I said, "Well, how much is that gonna cost?" He said he'll give that information to the warranty and that's when I was told that that's not covered. You're not gonna put a cleanout for me, which I can understand that. So I was left with a clogged drain. The only way they say it could be quick fixed was putting the cleanout. When I talked to American Home Shield, they said it would cost $1,800 for the cleanout, which is not covered by them.
So, I had a guy come out. He did another snake. And as he was doing it, he seemed like he knew more about what he was doing because he was maneuvering it, and he said, "Oh, I feel a clog in there." The bottom line is he came out, snaked it correctly, and he cleared the problem. I had to pay for this out of my pocket 'cause I called this plumber myself.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. It’s clear from your feedback that the multiple visits by different plumbing companies led to frustrations and unresolved issues. We apologize for any inconvenience this consistently caused for you. Our aim is for each challenge to be handled efficiently the first time around. I put it on my own clients' homes as well. I'm a single woman and when anything breaks in my home, I like that I can call them and have their contractor come out and repair it. That's been a blessing to me.
However, the first repairman that was assigned to the claim for my washer did something fraudulent. It was an awful experience. I was waiting on a part and wondering why no one had come out to take care of the issue. I called American Home Shield back and found out that the first guy had told them that it wasn't covered because an animal messed up the door on the washer. I never had an animal in my life. When the second guy came out, he looked at it and wrote it up. He was really nice. From the first time to the second time, I waited about two weeks because I didn't know that they weren't gonna fix it. But once the second guy came out, it was four days before the part came in and he came back and he fixed it.

It went well with JKS Appliance Repair. They came out in a couple of days, did the diagnosis, and had to order parts. They came out three times. The second time was the repair. It took them a couple of weeks to get parts. It was for a washer and dryer but the dryer still had problems. I called American Home Shield back, and JKS Appliance Repair came back out. They ended up replacing the dryer.
We got American Home Shield because we have three HVAC units. We have one that is leaking freon and we called it into AHS twice. They sent somebody out but both times, they couldn't find where the leak was. I spent my own money and had Arkansas refrigeration come out. They found leaks in the coil, in the furnace unit, and outside of the condenser. They said it needs to be replaced but AHS wouldn't do anything. They just kept having their contractors come out and keep putting freon in it. That's all they said they could do. They said unless the leak gets bigger, they're not gonna be able to detect it.
It's hard to get ahold of somebody at AHS. When I call somebody, it's usually because I've got an issue that I need a person to talk to. But you have to go through AHS' automated system and it takes forever to try to talk to somebody. They also have gone up several times on the price. We've been considering just dropping them and putting the money in a fund for repairs.
We appreciate your feedback about American Home Shield and your recent service experience to have the repairs completed! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

American Home Shield replaced the fridge but it took them over 5 months. I missed Thanksgiving and Christmas. I couldn't cook for my kids. American Home Shield was putting me through the wringer, and I told them I was gonna sue them because there was no reason for them to take that long. They put me through hell and back. They had assigned my case to seven different contractors who were all saying it was unrepairable. American Home Shield finally assigned S & S Appliance Repair. A repairman came out a few times, took pictures, diagnosed it and said he needed to call and order parts. Then he came out, put them on, but the fridge was still doing the same thing, so he ended up deeming it unrepairable as well.
American Home Shield gave me an option to shop with them or shop locally, which would be a cash payout. I went ahead and did that. I found a similar refrigerator at Home Depot. I ordered that and it should be here on Thursday. They requested a receipt of purchase, so I sent that in. But I haven't heard anything else back from that. I'm a bit tired of them right now and hopefully, they reinstated my insurance.
I usually submit claims requests through their online portal. I also have their application on my phone and they usually reach out and assign someone or however they choose to do it that day. But with this last experience, it's been all over the place. Their customer service is terrible as well. It's extremely difficult to communicate with somebody that has language barriers. I'm a manager in the healthcare business so I know how things are supposed to be run. When you are speaking to a customer, you're supposed to be leaving a document trail. But that was not being done. They were taking my calls but were ignoring my concerns. Then when I would call back, I would try to reference my last conversation but it wouldn't be there.
The price I pay to American Home Shield would be fair if they did their job, which is why I chose them in the first place. But right now, I'm questioning it because they're not delivering. I'm paying into it every single month, and if I do the math, I'm paying them a lot of money at the end of the year. If they are fighting me on things that I'm already paying into, what's the point of having them?
We appreciate your feedback about American Home Shield and your recent service experience to have the repairs completed! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

ADS Appliance kept trying to come in and fix the dishwasher by doing the same thing over and over again. Finally, they had someone that came in and replaced another part of it but still wouldn't work. They put a new control board in, and later on the young man that was working on it worked on trying to get some of the connections to work. That didn't work, so they ordered a new pump assembly. Then they said they couldn't get it, and they weren't available. I kept making phone calls, trying to see what was going on.
They said it's a Kenmore and Kenmore couldn't get the part to get to them. I was getting really tired of it, so I started making some more calls. It ended up with American Home Shield sending me the assembly. It took three days to get it to my house. After that, they sent a technician to put it in, but it still didn't work. He said that some of the wires are bad. I told him to get rid of it. At that point, American Home Shield picked it up and sent me a list of dishwashers for the replacement. I measured and picked it out, and I sent the information to American Home Shield. Then I got reference back saying it was gonna be here the 2nd of February, and it will be installed by a different contractor so I'm waiting for that. This has been over a period of four months.
Now I have an issue with a microwave that I'm not sure if the panel was doing weird things. I called American Home Shield because that's a built-in microwave, so it's covered under my warranty. They are sending ADS Appliance again. I looked at my microwave today and the panel is fine. Because of the cold weather, it might have not had enough voltage to operate it. It looks fine now, but I've already paid for the inspection, so I'm going to have them come in and take a look at it anyway.
I pay a lot of money to American Home Shield. I paid more in the four months for not having a dishwasher than what the cost of the dishwasher was. That really ticked me off. Normally, I've had pretty good response from them over the past claims, but they were different contractors. I don't particularly care for ADS Appliance. Their location to where I live is two towns away so I could only get them on a certain day when they are out in that area. They're not very responsive and I am not satisfied with them. I'm sure that they're used because they're the lowest on the totem pole as far as money. American Home Shield doesn't have to spend much on them. But that's the way it is. That's the way this business runs. I've been having a lot of other warranty companies calling me to change over, and their monthly charge is considerably less than American Home Shield.
We appreciate your feedback about American Home Shield and your recent service experience to have the repairs completed! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

People should look into American Home Shield. I initially got it when we first got the house in 2022, and we've been with them ever since. I like the variety of things that they cover under the plan that we have. As an improvement though, maybe they can have an option for a lower service call amount and better options when they have to replace the items.
I submitted a claim online for a leak in the pipes and a leak in the faucet. The website was user-friendly and I received the contractor's name, their telephone number as well as an estimated time for my appointment. The contractor came out and walked me through things, and they were able to answer any questions I had. They were able to explain as they went along. The service visit took about two hours and the leak in the faucet has been rectified, but they weren't able to correct the leak in the pipe. They didn't have the ability to fix it because of how the bathroom is set up.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're pleased to hear that you've found much of value in our coverage and that our online system met your expectations. It's great to know the contractors addressed your faucet issue efficiently, and we're sorry the specifics of your bathroom setup prevented them from fully resolving the pipe leak during this visit. We appreciate your feedback regarding the service call fees and the replacement options.

I usually contact American Home Shield by phone because online, you can't get them to understand what's going on. Calling works better, but the wait time is long. Each time I call, I wait at least 30 minutes, and sometimes closer to an hour. All Valley came out for the second time to repair the ice maker in my LG refrigerator. After replacing it, they didn't adjust the pressure, which caused the water to overflow and freeze the unit. I called them back to come out again, but they said the window was only 30 days. So, I had to pay another $100 fee, which I didn't like because they caused it. But the icemaker is working perfectly now. I’m dissatisfied that I had to go through it, but I have to give it to the company that came out. They fixed it and did a good job.
People should read the fine print and be careful. Some of the vendors that American Home Shield sends out will come in, look at the issue, and try to say you did something, and it's not covered by the policy. They still get paid and leave, even when that’s not true. American Home Shield seems to look for ways not to fix something, or they’ll replace it with something cheaper than what you had. And even when you know a vendor or worker is shady, you still have to pay the copay to get someone else to look at it. Another issue is the wait time. Sometimes parts have to be ordered, and then they don’t come back for three weeks. There’s a long wait on the phone, and if the technician doesn’t fix it on the first visit and needs a part, it can take another three weeks for them to return. Other than these, AHS has been fine.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

I was with American Home Shield for about 15 years, and then I disconnected and came back. I got tired of dealing with contractors directly, and I figured AHS screens them. They had some problems with their customer service about five years ago, but it’s better now. The technician was nice, but I don’t like that the timeline is ridiculously long. The technicians keep you at the house for six hours waiting for them to call. We can't stay the whole 6-hour duration. I have to make arrangements. I wish they got a 2-hour window.
It's also irritating that when they fixed my washing machine, it didn’t solve the issue we called about. The clothes were still coming out wet after the spin cycle. The technician changed the control panel and the soap dispenser, but the new soap dispenser doesn’t drain properly. The fabric softener just stays there instead of going into the washing machine. Other than that, it's been a great experience with American Home Shiel’s scheduling.
Thank you for your continued trust in American Home Shield over the years. We sincerely apologize for the frustration you've experienced with the scheduling of service calls, as well as with the repair of your washing machine. They were fine, but they were unable to fix the heating pump. I've been with American Home Shield for many years, and when the contractor came out, they noticed that there were some wires that were misplaced. To my surprise, American Home Shield declined to fix the heating pump because they thought that the wires were the cause of the problem, but the contractor never got to the motor, which was the real reason why the heating pump wasn't working.
The home warranty company said that it was not covered under the claim and I'm not sure how they figured that out when the contractor didn't even look that far. All they looked at was a wire that was out of place, which was reasonable because I had someone come over and service the unit from American Home Shield before. I'm very disappointed, and I intend to cancel my American Home Shield contract because it was the motor that was broken, which apparently was a wear and tear problem.

The contractor came out, assessed the water heater, and sent all the information to American Home Shield. I went through the whole process and inquired about the cashout. I had to talk to another company to see what their thoughts were. They recommended that I go with AHS because what they offered me seemed fair because over and above the actual water heater, some labor had to be done to change the pipes that feed into it. I didn't anticipate that a little less than 600 additional cost. We had to come up with that for the contractor to do the work. That was the only hang-up in this.
The gentleman who came out did a good job and was easy to work with. I asked him questions about how to maintain it, and he was good enough to explain all the particulars on it and how to drain it every now and then. We went without hot water for three days, so everybody's pleased that we got hot water again. It’s nice to see a new water heater. The other one leaked and rusted, but we kept on using it. Finally, it stopped working altogether.
I appreciate everything that AHS has done for us. Whenever we had an appliance that went out like the heater, it would take me a while to think about it. If they will cover it, we don't know what they will look for until we start making the inquiries with AHS. I talked to the guy who was here. He said, “That's how they work it.” I got confirmation on the process from them as well. All in all, I've been pleased and don't mind paying the monthly premiums knowing that these things are covered. If you can afford it, go with the best plan that AHS has. You won't regret it. It's a peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong, you will not end up paying heavily out of pocket.
