My dishwasher has an intermittent leaking problem. A technician came out and replaced gaskets, this, and that. Every second or third time I ran the dishwasher, it would leak. There was just no resolution to it but American Home Shield declined to replace it. I also had multiple calls for the same thing and had to argue with them about a washing machine that was moldy and couldn't be fixed. That went on for months and months. I was not happy with them. Their customer service or whoever answers their phone isn't very helpful. The company got bought out by somebody in the last year and so lots of things probably changed. Whatever service levels they had before, it's not my experience now. I moved to another company.

We just moved into the house last year and the range and the ice maker were already here. They're only a few years old but the icemaker would stop working randomly. A day or two later, it would work. A couple of months ago, it finally just stopped altogether. All the Google searching, cleaning, and retrying stuff didn't work for me. We filed a claim for that and the range as well. When we bought the house, we were told us that we should have it looked at because it was making a weird buzzing sound. A guy got here to inspect it and he noticed some pitting and damage to the glass.
The tech we had was great. I’m always nervous to have some company come out that I don't really know or have heard about. But he was very knowledgeable and was able to diagnose the freezer pretty quickly. He came back out to fix it so everything's working as it should now. As for the range, we replaced it. The email that I got last from American Home Shield said that I could choose one of their appliances but they didn’t have one that matched our kitchen, so I bought one. They said that they would reimburse up to $657 and that the check would be mailed shortly.
I was initially very skeptical about doing the warranty but I figured since there are a couple of things here that may need attention in the near future, I would give it a shot and it worked out great. We have another claim on the furnace. We used one of American Home Shield's promotion tune-ups and techs came out and said that the furnace was broken. I got an email saying parts were ordered and I clicked the Accept button to go ahead and pay the $1,300. American Home Shield would only give me a cash-out payment of $1,500, which was confusing. The only reason I was looking at the cash-out is because the week before, I actually had somebody come out and do a quote on it because they had a promotion of if you buy a furnace, you get a free AC. Our AC is getting pretty old too but it’s still working.
To alleviate the issue of just having another claim on the AC, I thought the payout would be a little bit higher so that I can pay the difference and have them both replaced at the same time. I'm not fully understanding exactly what's covered or what I'm actually paying for out of pocket. I'm sure somebody will explain it to me, eventually. I’m just trying to figure out how things work. The biggest question I have is if they're asking me to pay $1,300. The quote that I just got was $6,000, I figured I'd get more of a payout of 3,500 or 4,000, which is something that's closer to what the AC actually is gonna cost.

United Garage repaired the sensors and it was fine. My main issue is with my air conditioning claim. It's been a nightmare. I know American Home Shield has been trying to help out, but it's been moving really slow. I put that claim out at the end of August, and I still have no AC. The first time, it was the compressor that needed to be replaced, but when the first AC guys came in, I didn't really trust them. They're called Mr. Freeze, and they have a one-star rating on Yelp. Every single review of theirs is terrible. So I had another AC guy come in just to check what was wrong with the unit, and he also said the compressor wasn't working. We tried doing the replacement, but when Mr. Freeze came back, they said, "The AC is not turning on, so there's some electrical issue." So we got an electrician to fix it.
The third time the AC people came was two weeks ago, and I heard a bang while they were working on the unit. They said the compressor blew up and all the Freon dissipated. It was like, they saw the Freon come out of the AC. They also told me that the unit is now messed up. I've had enough. I went from the unit working properly, just didn't blow cold air, to what's now completely messed up, and I know that Mr. Freeze is fault. That's why they're working hard to tell the manufacturer to replace it, but the manufacturer knows it's not their fault either. The manufacturer said, "This is only a five-year-old unit. How did it just suddenly stop working? That doesn't happen." These units cost like 10 grand each, and I don't wanna pay 10 grand for something that I had no control over.

Home Shield offered me a free service. I did the claim online because my heater was not working. I only paid the $100 deductible, then they sent a guy from United Air Temp. The guy came on time and spent six hours taking care of the problem, and everything went perfect. On my previous claim, it was the refrigerator, and they said it is under the LG company warranty and they were not going to touch it. But I destroyed the refrigerator anyway.

We've had two issues with our home and we didn't get a lot of support from American Home Shield in getting things repaired and taken care of. Also, the company that I had before seemed like they covered more things than what American Home Shield does. For example, we had a garage issue and I paid $125 to have somebody come out. But what we needed fixed wasn't covered. So we spent $125 to have somebody come out to have us end up paying $2,800 to get our garage fixed.

The air conditioner broke and I tried to reach AHS, but nobody answered in the weekend. So, for urgency, I called a company for repair then after he fixed it and left, I tried to claim with AHS but they said that I had to go through them, which is weird. If I got a kitchen equipment problem, I'd go through the proper channels and call AHS. After one week, people would come and after two weeks, they order the part. After the two weeks, they fix the problem. So, if it would be the same thing with the air conditioner where I have to wait for one week under 100 degrees temperature, it is not logical. Other than that, American Home Shield's service has been excellent.

I had an air conditioner claim around Labor Day, and one of the vendors American Home Shield was setting it up with me couldn't get to me for a week. I'm in Scottsdale, Arizona, so a week without an air conditioner wasn't acceptable. I had to go outside the warranty company and get someone else to fix it. However, I don't think it was American Home Shield's problem. It was a vendor problem as far as where they couldn't service me, and I realize it was Labor Day, so they didn't have as many people, but that didn't help my situation.
I'm also having a problem with American Home Shield billing me for that service call. I talked to customer service after they billed me and said, “Hey, I never got the service.” They said, “Okay. Well, we'll take it off,” but I'm still getting bills for the $100. On the other hand, I really liked the last technician that's come out the last couple of times. He did really good. He repaired my dishwasher, and he looked over my oven and couldn't find anything wrong with that. On those calls, American Home Shield was good.

They came today, installed a new part, and the problem was resolved. Both guys who came out were professional. I have AHS because I don't have time to be dealing with the little problems at home and I’m not trained for that. I prefer the peace of mind and to pay for them to take care of my problems. And they have done it excellently so far.

The fan motor was going out on my outside AC unit and started making a noise. A guy came out and he looked at it. I asked if he could replace the motor and he said he could not replace it until it goes all the way out. I said, "Buddy, you can hear the motor. The bearings are going. It's broken. It's fixing to go out here in the next day or so." But he still said he could not do it as the AC was still working. That didn't make sense to me. He told me I would have to call American Home Shield back when it goes out. They would call the service company and they'll come back out to repair it.
Two days later, the motor quit working and it almost burned up the unit. American Home Shield would rather replace a $200 motor instead of replacing a $5,000 air conditioner. I had to call American Home Shield and they said they would dispatch the techs back out. They came out a day later. It was three days after the motor went out that I went without my air conditioner. Luckily, it was not too hot and I had a window unit that I could put in the kitchen to keep the house a little cool. But during the night, it wasn't too bad.
On the whole, I was discouraged about what happened. But it is what it is. I had another claim for a refrigerator problem. I had to call two or three times to get the tech guys back out here. The whole deal with that was with parts as they were waiting on them. There were two parts - the hinges on the door and the ice maker. The icemaker could have been replaced before the hinges. The tech had to order the hinges and said he was going to come back when the hinges all came in. They could have fixed that but I went without an icemaker for about three weeks until the parts came in. The techs then came back and fixed it.
American Home Shield is good and I have recommended them to people. I know how the home warranty works and it's a $100 service fee. Techs look at the issue, call American Home Shield, get the parts then come back out. I understand all that. The guys that came out that did the work were really professional. The ladies that I talked to on the phone were really helpful too. There was a time when my card on file got hacked. I got a recorded message saying to call American Home Shield. I called in to get the service and it was right around the same time I called in for the air conditioner. The rep said I was late on my payment. because I got hacked, I need to put a card on file so they can take the payment off of that one and delete the other one. The rep reinstated it so that was a good part. We got it all straightened out. They were a big help on that end.

I've been with American Home Shield since I purchased my home in 2009 and if I could go with another company, I would. There are a lot of hidden fees. Also, they don't keep contractors. I never get the same contractor twice and it's very hard to find contractors. They are normally from out of state, Georgia, so service calls are a hot mess and appointment times are a complete disaster.
One time, a contractor came to my house and he was in a non-identifiable vehicle and he had a paper badge. I called American Home Shield before letting him in my home to identify who the individual was and they couldn't tell me his name. Every time that I make these calls, I try to ask and I make sure it's noted. But they didn't know who this contractor was and this gentleman was coming in to do work in my home. I don't really appreciate those types of things. I'm not sure what I was gonna do next and it was just a back and forth. It eventually got resolved but I had to speak to a supervisor three times. The plumber was amazing but the hassle around the plumber wasn't worth it to me.
Then with the AC unit, I was not told in advance that there are two options but you're only given option one, which is, "These are the repairs, this is what needs to be done, and this is going to be the cost." They tried to charge me double for one unit. AirPro is the company that installed my unit in 2009 when I purchased my home. I ended up getting them to do the work. Their office manager a) told me that my price was lower and b) informed me of option two which American Home Shield does not give us as homeowners. That option two is to go with a contracted licensed professional outside of American Home Shield. As long as that company is licensed and bonded, I can send in proof of all that and I get cash back. I got back 900 and some odd dollars from American Home Shield. My unit was 2,000 so I only spent 1,000.
One other thing was my hot water heater went bad. It was replaced with American Home Shield and the contractor said I needed an expansion tank. They said there's a $600 builder's permit fee to put this tiny tank. He replaced the hot water and put an expansion tank. For the expansion tank, he used a rubber hose. I asked him about it and took pictures of it. I asked if it doesn't need something a little sturdier and attached to the wall and he said no.
A year and a half later, that expansion tank and hose were leaning over my hot water heater and water was coming out of it. I called American Home Shield back and they tried to charge me another fee. I said they're not gonna charge me a service fee for something that the guy should have fixed the first time. After a lot of fighting, they went ahead and paid for it. But come to find out, the company that they had hired is no longer in service. They have numerous complaints about the same fee that I was charged. American Home Shield sent out a second company and the guy put up copper piping. Other than those, I've had 100% service experience 90% of the time.

I had a service call for a leak from the third floor to the main area and the kitchen. Older gentlemen came and told me, "You didn't identify it correctly. You have to turn off the lights. You, the owner, have to do that, and then open the ceiling,” and this and that, because they said they don't do that. They looked at the pipe in the basement. They opened the drywall of the closet and left it open like that. They then never came back to patch it up and rodents can come through that wall. This was a while back. The technicians at that time were bad and they didn't even do anything.
I was a little bit dissatisfied in the beginning. I paid for premium coverage and the brochure said the warranty covered everything such as the roof. When the leak happened on the third floor to the main area, I thought it was the roof. When I called American Home Shield, they said they didn't cover that. I was very upset about that. I bought the policy in December and by January, they changed their policy.
I also had a disposal issue. Technicians came and they told me they could not fix the disposal and that I would have to buy a new one. They sort of fixed the issue. After they left, they did not close something under the sink and that caused the leak in the basement. The basement was flooded. The first visit was T. Mayes Plumbing and Heating and they misdiagnosed the issue. It was not even a leak. It’s the gasket that needed to be tightened. But they were telling me I needed to get an electrician and that I would have to open the ceiling. My son-in-law's father came by and he said it was just the gasket. I called American Home Shield and told them that. I said I didn't want T Mayes Plumbing because they left the hole open and they misdiagnosed things. They sent All Pro Plumbing.
A technician came and was very good and professional. He cut the ceiling to see where the leak came from. After he identified the leak and he fixed it, I asked about the hole. I was told that would be patched. I was waiting for the plumber because it was part of the same work. This morning, the plumbing company called and said they didn't do that. There's a separate drywall company. I called American Home Shield and they said another company will reach out to me. They do drywall and ceiling.

The dishwasher was leaking and we had someone come out here. He said something about the motor or something was wrong with it and that was what was causing it to leak. A lady called last Friday and asked for measurements but I was at work, so I wasn't able to follow up. I just got those measurements yesterday. So, I just need to call her back and finalize that. We've had American Home Shield for years and I like them because they give total packages. Sometimes, in my previous or prior rental, it was hit or miss. That might have to do with the area. But with this property, it seems the people they send out and the turnaround time are a little bit more efficient.
The contractor that went out this last time was great. On other properties I had, I wasn't very satisfied with who came out. It always seemed like we pay a fee but then it was always extra or more. So, it's like we are paying for ourselves because we've done this outside of the warranty or they're not very knowledgeable. When we had to get our water heater replaced, COVID was happening and a lot of people were sick but it took two weeks just to get somebody out to the house. So, this last time, it wasn't like that. If AHS can continue to keep up the professionalism, the quick turnaround times and making sure they get subcontractors that are dependable, reliable, and can get the work done, we'll be doing well.

I had an AC person come out. One company first came out and said there was a need to change the voltage. He was going to put a new voltage regulator on there. He added that was just the start and if it's something else, they would go from there. He went on the roof and within two minutes, he was gone. He didn't communicate any more than that to me. A whole month wnet by and I had no AC. It was 111 and on one of those days, it was 114. I called AHS because at that point, I didn't even know who came out. I didn't catch who it was because the app just said, "Your American Home Shield appointment is scheduled for this day." But it didn't say who. I haven't learned how to figure out on the app itself how to go back.I can't find where it's stored.
I called American Home Shield and they sent out a different company. I was charged again and then charged for another person. I couldn't really understand the gal and I kept telling her, "Is there somebody who speaks clear English? Because I'm having a hard time understanding you." She put me on hold, came back on, and she tried to change the way she spoke. Her accent was so strong that I could not really understand what she saying.
In between that, I needed ductwork checked out. But when I called, the rep said the ductwork would be a separate thing. I got charged for it. The gentleman from the ductwork came out and said, "One of your things is disconnected. One needs to be replaced. The ductwork isn't getting air to two of the rooms either." I had been waiting for two months for that to get repaired. Every time somebody comes from that company, it's a different person. I told my husband it was like American Home Shield is getting anybody and everybody to come and do these jobs but nobody knows anything. Nobody ever leaves me anything to sign so that I could say, "They're waiting to repair this or that." A tech went up there and found a whole different problem.
In the meantime, the tech from Austin Air and Heating came back. He was a younger guy and he went up there. He said he didn't know what it was but he would change the regulator. I told him that was changed a month ago and it still didn't work. He's said, "Yeah, but it wasn't from our company." He said, "Well, it kicked on." Exactly what it did with the first guy. It kicked on, overheated within two hours, and shut down again.
I told the AHS rep, "Look, it didn't work. It's only been working for two hours. Something needs to give. You guys aren't listening to me. I told him that that's the same part that was fixed. What is going on?" She's like, "I could send them back right now." The tech got there and said there were three parts that it needed and that it was gonna be a whole month before the AC gets fixed because they have to order the parts. I said to the rep, "Ma'am, I just got off the phone with you five minutes ago. How did Austin get there that fast? And nobody called me to turn on the system. So how did he know all those things broke?"
I still don't know what the tech fixed and didn't fix. We're waiting months in-between. American Home Shield had two different AC people come out when I tried to do a callback. I needed somebody to come and check out the ductwork. But it charged me for the AC person, then the rep went and did a manual callback so then it charged me for that person. I just can't keep up and I don't know how to make this work. Somebody should be properly doing what they needed to do - communicating and leaving me work orders or invoices that states what exactly changed. Right now, I'm extremely dissatisfied.

On August 4, 2022 I signed a contract with American Home Shield (Contract ID: **) after my other home warranty which was purchase through the escrow expired. On September 27, 2022, my downstairs AC failed, and I called them for service. American Home Shield denied the claim stating the contractor on site determined the issue is a pre-existing problem and instructed me to contact the contractor. I called the contractor which stated he only determined that the condenser failed but never stated pre-existing. The conclusion American Home Shield refuse to fix the AC and blames the contractor and vice-versa. I already filed a complaint with California Insurance Commission and Better Business Bureau and sent them a notice before legal procedure.

Looking for loopholes and every reason not to honor warranty services... Needed to get my sump pump fixed, heavy rains recently and I noticed window wells weren't draining quickly. Contacted AHS and then sent out United Air Temp. Contractor arrived and I could tell immediately he was going to try and do everything in his power not to do the work. First he doesn't even diagnose the sump pump. He literally just looks at it and says, "Yup, it's working fine." To which I respond... and how do you know that you didn't even touch it.
I finally shamed him into doing his job and he removed the cover and ran the motor test and the water was not draining... imagine that. He says, "Ok, you are correct the motor is burned out. I need to call AHS to get authorization to fix." He comes back 15 minutes later and says AHS won't cover because the AC condensate line is what caused the motor to burn out and not the hundreds of gallons of ground/rainwater that we have received in the past several weeks. AC has been off for months and the condensate line is bone dry. So the trickle of water that comes out of the condensate line during the summer is what caused the motor to burn out... You've got to be kidding me. The AHS rep offers to send another technician out for an additional fee. And the technician of course quickly offers an estimate of 2K to replace the pump. What a joke. AHS, this is my first experience using you... and now I can see why you have so many bad reviews.

My AC wouldn't click on and techs came in less than 24 hours after I made the claim with American Home Shield. They were super helpful and friendly. They got the AC fixed. So far, American Home Shield's service has been great and cheap. When you have a home warranty, you do not have to pay the full price for an expensive repair. But they can improve their consistency and communication. If I'm going to have an issue with my air conditioner, I want the same company to be the one that comes out every time. There's also the timeliness. American Home Shield has to find somebody to do the work and there were times when we had to wait a couple of days to get a major repair done and did not hear from somebody.

It was pretty quick and he left. He was very thorough. I like American Home Shield because we're always able to talk to somebody if we were having an issue with the AI system. We had 2-10 at first and had some really bad experiences with them, with the contractors, and even with the claims. American Home Shield’s coverage is more comprehensive.
I would tell others to give AHS a shot. We've had a very good experience. We've had a few problems and we were never turned away or told that it was too much. We had to replace the dishwasher. We had an issue with the fridge recently. We had the microwave and the dishwasher issues. American Home Shield has stayed consistent in their service and they've been there for us. So, I'm happy about that. I like the level of customer service when you call in and the availability of people to talk to. Then, it seems like the people really want to do well because in the end, they ask you for a survey. I always love that survey. They're very friendly and welcoming, too. What I liked best is the service and ability to connect with someone. Every time I call, even though it's like 9:00 PM, someone comes out.
We had an issue with our sump pump where the pipe was leaking out like water was filling the part of our basement where the sump pump is. It's almost like a storage little room area. We had an issue with the pool pump and the person who came out was quite efficient and saw immediately what the issue was and was able to correct it. So we were very pleased. In this case, it was pretty quickly when the order went in and the contractor was out within 24 to 48 hours. So that was really good. American Home Shield's service is good, but it's quite entangled in the bureaucracy. When someone calls for service, especially on a product or an appliance that needs immediate attention, and once you call the company, you can get to someone very quickly and they can check everything, and then they can dispatch someone to remedy or address the situation as quickly as possible. But sometimes, that doesn't happen. Some of the contractors are not exactly in your location so it takes a little time.
We liked the fact that it has become easier to get to a person who can help us. So the process has improved. Before, the automated system screens you at the moment you call and then they will refer you to another person, which sometimes you could wait for half an hour to an hour to connect with anyone, and then they would have to check everything. But now, when you call, you give them the essentials, and they can track who you are and you tell them what you want. At that point, they can determine and designate the vendor that is coming out and then their number. Then the email or the text comes within minutes that the order has been placed. But overall, we're pleased and we've been a little more impressed with the ability to get through quicker.

We've had AHS for years in several different houses or rental houses and they've always been responsive and professional. They've completed the task required with no complaint. Our claim with AHS was for a refrigerator. It's been repaired a couple of times. One was the refrigerator portion was running warm and the freezer was running extra cold. So, we had food that was not being chilled appropriately, and then you had the freezer was rock hard. They sent out a tech and they fixed it and it was fine. He was back a couple of times 'cause they had to order parts, had to come back, fix it and the thing worked great. Fella was very nice, gracious, told us what was going on, and explained the situation, something wasn't working, so replaced it. That was fine for quite a few months.
Then, the freezer compartment couldn't even open the door. It was frozen. Finally, we had to really shut it down to zero in order for it to open the door and it was all snowy in there. Again, another tech came out. Because the tech that had fixed it before was on vacation. Again, ordered the part, came back, replaced the part, and everything's fine. They did what they needed to do to fix it and I was satisfied with the service. They were prompt, timely and they communicated and let us know what was going on. The ticket shouldn't be closed out because I have a hole in my wall now from the plumber that hasn't been fixed. It's been a while that the plumber first came out. I like that when I've called AHS to get something fixed, they get a vendor right away. It was just that one situation that was not handled very well. I canceled American Home Shield, all policies, one time, when they wouldn’t fix my air conditioner in Macon, Georgia. I had to fix that issue myself. They wouldn’t pay for. I went back to American Home Shield. And I got a better rate because I told them what had happened. I’ve had this other company that keeps trying to get me to go with them. But I looked on their website, and it’s not comparable to AHS for my price.
The washing machine filled up with water, and it wouldn’t do anything. We bought it in 2004. The contractor had to get the water out of it, because we had clothes in it trying to wash. But they got it. And they said they couldn’t manually do it. They had to put a hose in there and drain it out through a hose pipe because they couldn’t get it to drain. They were awesome. But they couldn’t fix the washing machine. We’re waiting. And I’ve been checking online, and they said it was shipping. That was days ago. And I haven't heard anything else from American Home Shield saying it was shipped. They said it was shipped, but it hasn’t got here. They said that when it comes, they would have someone here to put it in and install it because we live on the mountains, and it snows and rains up here all the time.

American Home Shield is a very good company. They contact you by text and let you know where they're at and when they’re arriving. So far, I had a nice experience. I made an appointment by phone to them, then I got a phone call from somebody in Texas from A&E, which is Sears. He wanted details on what was wrong, and I told him, then he said he would pass it on to the tech that's doing the job so they have all the details.
A year ago, my refrigerator temperature was getting too warm. The freezer was fine but it was forming a little ice at the bottom of the platform after I open the door. A nice gentleman from Sears came and opened up the compartment in the back of the refrigerator freezer. He had to use a steam gun to melt all the ice out. There was a block and the vent was clogged with ice. A year later, it happened again. The same gentleman came over and did it again. He's a very nice man. He stayed a while and tried to get that all cleaned up, emptied everything out, and put all the trays back in. Everything's still working, but he doesn't even know why it keeps doing that. He said, “This particular model, it happens a lot.” It's a 12-year-old double door refrigerator freezer by Whirlpool.

So the last time he came, he apparently got in touch with American Home Shield and suggested that the entire unit needed to be replaced. AHS sent McConnell out for another opinion. The tech messed around with it and tried to fix it, too. It still didn't work. He said he'd be back. He was here on Tuesday, and on Thursday, he called and wanted to know if it was operating properly. I told him it was not and at that point in time, he contacted American Home Shield again. Subsequently, the whole unit was replaced. The unit wouldn't dispense ice and then it would thaw everything out and then refreeze it.

I had a service technician come out within 24 hours for an electrical issue. The technician originally came out for two connectors but he saw that the first one was burnt because the wire in the back had detached. With the second one, it was a wire that was attached in the junction box in my attic. He did three in total. I told him, “It looks like I need to go around and check the rest of my outlets myself and replace them.” He said they were quick connects which is perfectly legal but it's not as sturdy. They won't last as long. The house is from 1978 so all of my outlets are probably in need of a little bit of repair.

I like American Home Shield’s service but I'm still waiting for my air conditioning to get fixed, and I don't like that part. Other than that, American Home Shield has been wonderful. If you call and you need help, they send someone out immediately. You don't have to wait. You might have to wait for a day before somebody comes out.
Mister Freeze came out last week for the air conditioner. Here in California, it had been about 110 degrees for about three months straight. The air conditioning never did turn off because it was like 80 degrees at nighttime. So, when it cooled down, and I turned the air off, the air wouldn’t go off. The fan continued to run and that was not normal. The fan on the thermostat is off. So, the fan should not be on. I called American Home Shield to send somebody out. The first company came. The guy said he couldn't do it because he doesn't know what was going on. Mister Freeze came out and the guy said, “Yeah, it's a board that's burned out.” So, he ordered a board. He brought the board, put it in, and the fan continued to run. So, he took the part off that was causing the fan to continue to run. He put a new board on there.
He took a big part off the air conditioning and took it with him. He had to order this part, and he'd get back to me the next day, but no one ever did. I waited a couple of days and called to see what was going on. As far as the home warranty itself, I haven't had any problems with American Home Shield. If I called and I have a problem with any appliances, they right away call somebody and email me and say, “This is the service person. You can call them or they’ll call you.”

American Home Shield will cover the cost of most of the things that my policy covers. So, I was annoyed the other day when I went to file a claim on my refrigerator, which used to be in the house, but we moved out into the garage and replaced it in the house with a new refrigerator. The one in the garage was going strong, but it eventually died also. I called a claim in on that. The house fridge is covered by my policy, but not the garage fridge. But I checked my policy and that wasn't out there. So, I can't fault AHS for that. After the experience with the refrigerator, I read through my agreement again. And it was an older agreement. But I would simplify the agreement in terms of spelling out clearly exactly what is covered and not under different types of plans.
After we moved in, our water heater failed. The technician American Home Shield sent out wanted us to replace the system that we had previously with the exact same setup, which was a 1990 setup. It would cost $3,000. And AHS would only going to cover 1,000 of it. So we got a private plumber to come in and look at it. And they said, "No. This stuff is very old." And the reason it cost so much is they would have to fish around for old equipment to replace this with that they don't even use anymore because it's outdated. And they priced it out with them.
They also said they could replace the water heater for $800, which was mostly the cost of the water heater and $100 service. We asked AHS if we could just do that instead of the technician's recommendation, which would have been a lot more expensive. They said, "Sure. Go ahead do that." That was at one instance. Other than that, they all did everything expected. And being able to go with our own private contractor with that water heater instead of being forced into using American Home Shield's tech was helpful.

Shortly after I moved in, I had to have my hot water heater replaced and I told American Home Shield that I did not want to have it replaced on my own. I wanted them to do that. All I had was the ability to fill out something online. Then all of a sudden, a couple of days later, I get a check for $363. I called and complained about it because I had to pay an additional $1,100 myself for it. I had a negative feeling about that. But May Heating and Air was very good. My air conditioning was not working and apparently, a fuse had been blown. They replaced it. So, it was very quick and simple.

I've been very happy with American Home Shield. I figured that having many appliances, a furnace and an air conditioner, and if I had to replace them, if I paid my premium and paid $100 to have repairs done, I came out ahead with AHS. Recently, the AC had quit blowing cold air. When the tech went out to it, it needed a new board. And he wired it temporarily to just the air conditioner work and not the furnace. And he never came back. I wasn't happy with the contractor. I called and texted but I could not get ahold of them. And I called AHS. They could not get ahold of them. So, they got somebody else out here and they immediately fixed it. Get AHS. You won't be sorry.

The tech from New Oak is supposed to come back today and fix the washer. They fixed it once, but it broke again. He said it may break again and it may need a part, but he at least got it working. So yeah, I think he’s supposed to come back today. I haven’t heard from him just yet. I like him a lot. He's very efficient. He comes quickly and gets his work done. He was very nice to deal with.
New Oak came and fixed the dryer before and I was very happy with their service. It’s much better than a couple of the other maintenance companies American Home Shield has been using. I really do not like Express at all. It's a miserable, awful service. They replaced our dishwasher. It took months to do. It took weeks before they called. I did a phone thing, which I didn't like doing. When you pay for service, you expect the technician to come. I had to stop what I was doing and do a phone call, and give him all this information over the phone. Then somebody eventually came and determined the dishwasher needed to be replaced. Then, it took another few weeks before we got the information. Then the washer was delivered.
The service people came out to install it, and it was a girl and a young man. They said, “Oh, well, you don't have a drain something.” I said, “Well, I'm sure I do. We've lived in this house for 30 years, and we’ve had a dishwasher here. So, there is a drain thing. And I’m sorry I can’t get up underneath there and show you, but it's there.” They said, “Oh no, it's definitely not there. We're not going to be able to do it.” So, they left. I had to call back. It took close to four months we dealt without a dishwasher. So, it was a very bad experience.
We’ve had AHS for over 30 years. In the long run, it’s worth it but it’s not been great at times. We had a situation with an air conditioner where they claim that I had not maintained the air conditioner. The only people we call for maintenance are from American Home Shield. So, if anybody failed in the maintenance, it was their providers. They had two different companies come out. While the boys that came here and did the evaluation said that they could see no lack of maintenance, when they got back to their office, then we received notices that said, “Oh, this is due to poor maintenance." So, they did not cover it. I had to spend over $3,000 just to replace that air conditioner. That was not a good experience and I considered kicking them to the curb, but my wife talked me out of it.
Overall, AHS saved us money by doing it but those two experiences with the air conditioner and the dishwasher really left a bad taste in my mouth. So, it’s encouraging that they found this new company, New Oak. I’m happy with them. Hopefully, he’ll be here today and fix this because the same problem came back. He made me aware that it could happen, but I think he was just following the protocol of what he had to do.

I paid $3,075 for a new AC unit and it never worked right from when the tech installed it. After only a week since they'd put it in, I started having water leaking out from underneath the unit down in the basement. The tech came out and I asked him what the problem was. He said he was the owner of My Cousin Vinnie and he told me he had to put Freon in this unit. But that's a brand-new unit and you shouldn't have to put anything in it. Now, there's water and oil leaking from the unit. I had a neighbor who knew a little bit about air conditioning units and he told me that the copper pipe that's on the outside of the unit itself got a hole in it. So it wasn't soldered correctly and that's where all the water and the oil are coming out. So, I don't know if the unit was defective when it was brought here but the same thing’s going to happen come summertime when I go to switch it over to air conditioning.
I called American Home Shield and the girl said that she’d put me on hold then she called the owner of My Cousin Vinnie. She told me that he refused to come out unless I pay another service fee. That's ridiculous and I am not going to pay another service fee when that should be covered by some kind of warranty. And if it wasn't installed correctly from the get-go, that's not my fault.
I paid enough because I had to pay the $125 when he first came out and said I needed a new unit. I also just got American Home Shield and they take 44.99 out of my account every month. Besides that, I had another guy come out who did the heater and I had to pay him $125 to do whatever he had to do with it to get it fixed. And that was probably caused by that air conditioning unit that My Cousin Vinnie installed since I didn't have any problems with the heater last year. Aside from that, I didn't get a hand delivered kind of warranty paperwork when I should have gotten something. So far, I haven't heard a word from neither AHS or My Cousin Vinnie.

I've been paying for a plan for almost a year. I've had one clean claim. But it had 3 problems that I needed to get taken care of. When they turn around and say if you have a leak and if it's inside your house which is 4 corners of a house they will take care of it, they will cover it, don't worry about it, you're told that by 5 reps or agents who want to call it. So, when you have a claim and going to have a major leak which is going to happen. Where water is dripping next to my water meter that is inside my house you get a phone call from an idiot saying that, "This is our claim we're sticking to it."
When I've actually asked for a second opinion. So in the meantime nothing has got resolved. I've collected the $125.00 of my hard earned money and Still today I have to deal with the bureaucracy and ** of this company when when they should actually just get it fixed and it's less of a headache and I don't even have to leave a nasty review like I am today.
So, so anyways I think there should be a should be a multi and I mean multi lawsuit nationwide against this company. Because they like to save money and Really like to save money and really don't care about your home. They just like to rake the dollars and just like every insurance company out there in America. When you look at a medical insurance just like a hospital or a doctor's or anything like that but they're a scam artist and I believe that no one should go through a home warranty hell. Pay for your ownself.
Believe me. These people are so ** up idiots that don't know anything and most of the time they have people when you call they're from a foreign country that can even hardly ever speak English. So when my contract is up I will not be renewing whatsoever. And I think that everybody should really look at their contract because in my contract it said all 4 corners of your house that you live in, not not a say a porch on it but anything else inside the dwelling they do cover. It's a bunch of malarkey and a bunch of **.

American Home Shield’s service is a little slow sometimes, but it's a good deal. I do a ticket, and the people call me to make an appointment. The AC was squeaking horribly. It sounded like a T-Rex is in our backyard trying to get in. I did an online claim to American Home Shield. I love their website. I used to try calling in to submit claims, and I was put on hold for hours. I finally tried the online method, and I have never gone back because it's so awesome. Waiting in line is a horrible nightmare. I feel like you don't have very many employees working that I can speak to.
The techs who came for the AC put a new compressor in our air conditioning unit. They were very professional, very thorough, and very knowledgeable. They let us know that our filter was dirty. I'm short, so they took it out for us. I went and got a new one later that day. I handled that part myself but they were able to reach where I couldn’t. They put the new compressor in, and there was an area in the attic that needed some closure. They fixed that up.
The warranty has been a lifesaver. They saved me so much money. The ice maker in my refrigerator went out a couple of years ago and the guys were like, “Man, you really lucked out. For 75 bucks, you got like $500 worth of this." For some reason, that machine was very expensive. The service plus the part would have been like $600. I was like, “No way. We only paid 75. This is amazing.” So, I've been extremely happy with it. I'm a real estate agent and I refer them to my clients all the time.

It turned out that a washer got clogged up in there. The water in the heater was intermittently very hot. And it would go to no hot water. I put that water heater in 1985. What typically happens with that is that the element and the thermostat would start to fail. So I went back and looked at it. We were having a leak in the water heater. But with it failing like that, we decided that, having paid the premiums on the American Home Shield, it would be time to submit a claim. It was very straightforward. It breaks it down into types of systems in your home. So, I selected the system that would have the plumbing in it. From there, I was able to accept the water heater. And it gave me examples of failure, which I selected one. It told me that the copay was $100. And I agreed to that. I put a new payment option in as I made the claim. And the rest is history.
I texted and had a conversation with Wabash Valley Plumbing people before they even made an appointment. And I took some pictures and sent it to him. A representative of AHS called and asked me to take some pictures. I described the issue to her. Throughout the claim, as we were waiting for the water heater to be ordered and received at Lowe's, I was in contact with the Wabash Valley Plumbing often just to get status reports. And they told me when it was in, when to expect them. And they gave me an appointment with a timeframe from 11:00 to 5:00 on a day. And they wound up being here before noon to start the repairs. The communication was great. And the efficiency of the installation was spot-on. We’re very pleased with everything that happened.

It was incredibly frustrating dealing with a basic faucet issue in my house because people were telling me different things. If you were to look at the history of how that was handled, those people didn't know what they were talking about. So I had to go to the person above the person for them to realize what was going on. All of that could have been circumvented or avoided if people that are lower on the totem pole per se were more trained.

I had a stoppage issue in our sink. It was a simple problem, but one that we couldn't figure out ourselves. So, after several months of having the issue, we decided to reach out and have someone from plumbing services fix it for us so that we can resume use of our sink as normal. The tech was awesome and very friendly. He explained what might have caused the issue because I had a few questions. He was efficient and on time.

I haven't had any problems with American Home Shield, but one thing I don't like is they have been raising my premium every year since I've been there. One year, it jumped $20. It was crazy. Other than that, I would recommend them. They come out and either fix or replace the item. The repair people have done their job too. The only time I had a problem, it took me a while to get a part, but that was a few years ago. It also wasn't so much the contractor. It was just parts availability.
Just recently, a young lady at the laundromat was saying her washer was down, and I referred her to American Home Shield. However, she found another company whose monthly rate was cheaper, and they offered more. It was Choice Home Warranty, and I started to change but I didn't do any research to check to see the reputation of the company.

The garage door would get wobbly when we close it and it was not even where they were folding. The contractor was very polite and professional. When he opened and closed the door, it was still functioning. It just was not closing and opening correctly. It was eventually not going to work and he knew what to do right away. I was impressed with that. He knew exactly what was wrong and he said that he just needed to replace it. I said that I found a bolt in my car and I asked him if that was the one, and he said that it was. So, the repair was simple and quick. American Home Shield’s website is very user-friendly. It's very easy to see if what you need to have done is covered.

My toilets had backed up and I called the plumber. They said they couldn't get to it till the following week. I said, “Well, don't you have an emergency service?” They said, “Well, no. That's as soon as we can get it.” When the guy came out, he put the snake in. He said, “Well, I went, like, 65 or 80 feet, and it's out in the street. And someone has to call in somebody else to get a bigger snake or something.” Whenever I tried to call the plumbers from Express Plumbing and Heating, I could never get an answer. It was always an answering machine. I never heard back from them, so I called up a couple of other plumbers. They advertised it was $80 to clean the drain and when they got here, they wanted $400 and $500, so I didn't do that either. Finally, I went to our park down here and asked if they recommend plumbing cleaners and they gave me one that I called. They came out the next day and cleaned it out. Everything is working great now.
Recently, my garbage disposal was bad and the guy American Home Shield sent for that was really great. The garbage disposal wasn't working so he installed a new one and then there was no problem. When I had the refrigerator worked on because it was building up some ice where the icemaker was, the contractor came out and cleaned it. But I called American Home Shield back and told them that it was doing the same thing. They said, “Well, it'd be another $75. And we'll send a technician out to take care of it.” I said, “I don't wanna pay another $75.” I always had to argue with them. It seemed like they just wanna get the $75 before they really do anything.
When I call American Home Shield, I'm put on hold a lot of times, where I have to wait and then they make a time. Then the plumber is supposed to contact me right away and give a time when they will come out. I've been with American Home Shield for nine years, and I wasn't getting any kind of service out of them. I'm very dissatisfied. I had the same problem with my heater a while back. The contractor came out and said it was fixed and it was working. But when they leave, it would start doing the same thing and then they said, “We got to send out the master tech.” So it was always a hassle.

American Home Shield is like insurance, and people can’t live with no health insurance. Sometimes, I don’t need them for two or three years, but there are times like this time when I did a claim for my microwave, stove and dishwasher. It was very nice, and it was a good thing it was all three appliances. I only had to pay for one deductible fee. The person who came to fix the stuff was very nice, and I recommend him for anybody. He’s a professional and very outgoing person, and he knows his business. He fixed my microwave and stove and did a very good job. He also recommend that my dishwasher was not fixable, so American Home Shield sent me money to buy a new one.
The only thing is, when American Home Shield sent me my money, they did not send me a check to buy my dishwasher. They sent me an e-card for Lowe's, so I was stuck with what they had. If American Home Shield sent a regular card, it was okay, but with an e-card, every time, I had to open my phone and they couldn't get the number right. I had to go through a lot of things until I got what I wanted. Also, I had some money left and I wanted to buy something else from Lowe's. Next time, American Home Shield should just send a check or a regular card so I can swap myself and walk out. I don’t need to go through the cashiers or four different people to get what I want, to scan the card. It wasn’t an easy experience. Otherwise, everything else was okay.

American Home Shield is 50% okay. They're not true to their contract. What the contract said was up to a certain amount to get work done. Also, when I signed up with them, I asked them if I could use whatever repair person I can, but I've got to get permission to do that (as if I was going to get somebody that wasn't going to do the job right). It seemed so controlling. Then, what they came and said they needed to do didn't amount to what they offered as a total amount to get the job done.
It said up to $1,500 on the roof repair but the person they sent out said to repair it would be $400 worth of work. In the process of him coming out, I had someone else come out and look at it because I didn't think he was concerned about doing what he was gonna do. The company said it was more damage up there than I would and I wasn't going to put a band-aid on something that needed to be covered. I had the whole roof done to make sure that that doesn't happen again on a little patch-up. American Home Shield could have at least offered me $1,500 to go towards my whole $21,000 roof repair for what I had done to the roof.
It took about six calls to get a process of the claim. It seemed every time we talked to somebody that said they were going to do something, they didn't do it. I talked to one person and they were supposed to hook me up to a supervisor but they just left me on hold. I talked to someone else and got a chance to talk to a supervisor who said they were going to do something but it never got done. Two more calls and, finally, the last person got the claim processed. It's a hassle to pay for something and it's not like I call a lot.
This is the second time I've been with American Home Shield. I left them the first time because something like that happened. One of the reasons was that the people they were sending out to get the job done didn't do it and they wouldn't allow me to find somebody at that time. They sent a company out that didn't follow up. It took almost three months and it didn't even get done. I came back after I wanted to have a certain coverage. For American Home Shield to go up on the price this year was disappointing.

There was an issue with the washing machine. It would fill up with water but it wouldn't do the agitation of the washing of the clothes. The water stayed in there. A guy came and had to drain all the water out of it with a pitcher. He was then able to get the washing machine to pull up codes. The guy was really good.
When I have an issue with either the rental house or our house, American Home Shield sends people out right away and it's not too long of a wait. With other home warranty programs, it's a long wait and that's frustrating. There was one time when we had a toilet fixed in the past. The people that we had fixed what the problem was but they said that they wouldn't come back until we had it scoped with a camera. They didn't offer to do that.
When we had our microwave fixed, we called back because it got fixed but it was still doing the same problem. American Home Shield didn't charge me the service fee because it had only been maybe two or three weeks and the problem happened again. The techs came back out, looked at it again, and fixed it. That was nice. I like that when something's not quite right, I know they're not going to nickel and dime me to death.

I submitted a claim online, and I'm not great about the site. There are things that can be explained better. When the user picks a problem, the different issues should be listed. Also, the repair people are very good, but some of them are not very knowledgeable. I had an incident wherein somebody came for the plumbing for my toilet, and it was not very good. He came for the third time and still didn't figure out what was going on because it was still leaking.
The toilet was running constantly. I had to call American Home Shield back again and ask that they assign somebody else. They immediately did, but unfortunately, they charged me more, which I'm not happy about. It was not my issue. American Home Shield is contracted with somebody and the people they send should be able to fix it. If not, then there should not be a charge. They should be sending another plumber, but only one charge should have been there. They double charged me for that. Overall, American Home Shield is a service, and I had high hopes because some of my friends used to have this a long time back. They talked good about it, but sometimes it makes me think whether I should stay with them or not.

The second electrician came and said the issue has something to do with the breaker switch box. He said he has to go to the attic to do something. I asked for a second opinion and another electrician come out. They looked at it and went away. The guy said the warranty does not pay for that kind of work. Four people came out and nobody paid any interest on it. I didn't get my problem resolved and I had to hire a private electrician to come.

The contractor comes out and checks when they’re supposed to. But I had an issue when the bathroom toilet kept flushing on its own. Every time I called them to come out and service it, the person who came out would say they don't service that. So I would call Home Shield back and Home Shield would send the same people out again that didn’t service it. I paid Home Shield the $100 fee three times but they never resolved the issue. Every time they came out, we told them that they never resolved the issue. So it would go past that 30 days. Then by the time somebody else came back out, I would have to pay the fee again because it was past 30 days. I ended up having to buy a new toilet and it annoyed me because that's what I got American Home Shield to do.
For my AC claim, the contractor came right out and resolved the issue. But I had an issue with the guy who was supposed to come out and check the refrigerator. It was during the time we had the hurricane. He came unannounced and I wasn't home because my electricity was out. But when it came back on, he called and we made an appointment for him to come, but he didn't come. I called American Home Shield and they said that he said he came out on October 4th, but it was not true. So he ended up coming and then he ended up needing parts.

And I got one particular payment that I have to pay as opposed to calling all these different people out to my home, and they make up whatever they want to charge me. I know what I have to pay. I know things can be replaced if they can't be fixed. I love that I just pay $100, no more, no less. I have my aunt's house under the coverage as well. It's just a peace of mind for me, knowing that if we called the AC guy out there, he wouldn't tell me $1,500 while it’s a $100 problem. Because you never know if you’re getting charged properly.
I started getting some expensive water bills. And that was the toilet that I don't typically use, which was running and running. And I would get some weird smells occasionally out of there as well. So, I took the top off and tried to screw little replacement things. But that didn't work. I called AHS. One of the guys came by and did three or four things, put some new things on the toilet, and it still was running. And he said that we would have to replace this toilet. So, another guy came the following day to replace the entire toilet in the master bedroom. I enjoyed the interaction. I enjoyed the service. They were both timely, very business-like. They came in and took care of their business. So, I was pleased with the service. Everything is functioning properly now.

The next time it was loaded, it was the same thing. The water didn't drain properly. So I called in and the tech came down and diagnosed it as a defective motor. A couple of weeks later, they came back and put the motor in, and the gentleman said everything was fine. I ran it the next day and it wasn't fine, it was still not draining. So, I had the gentleman come yesterday and he tested it a few times and made some initial repairs. I haven't run it since. I didn't have any problems with them at all. But if I was the guy who put the motor in, I would have made sure that it worked before I left.
AHS is good for some repairs but not for some. Awhile back, I had some heat pump issues and they went to replace the heat pump. I've been told by other people that worked on it that they did not put the correct size for my house. They went a little bit small instead of a little bit over. So, I wasn't happy about that. I wish they would have gone a little bit over as far as the capacity and how it works. If they told me that they were giving me a bigger one and it might cost a little extra, I would have paid the extra. But they downsized me instead of giving me the option.

He told me to go ahead and buy all the smoke alarms because American Home Shield was only going to replace one and we had to replace the remainder. I bought nine and I never got any compensation from American Home Shield for the one of them, which I should have.
Hanneman was very good. They changed all of the smoke alarms, tested them, and it was done. Every time they come, they’re very professional, get things done, and gave us explanations. The scheduling was no problem and they let us know when they were on their way. But when I have to deal with American Home Shield for any claim, it’s like pulling teeth. They are the worst. I just keep them because I have no choice. Any time you have to file a claim, it’s A, B, C, and D until you get to the point where you just say, “It’s not worth the headache.” I call them for one thing then call back for another. Each time I do that, that’s $75 instead of American Home Shield having them all fixed at one time. That’s a racket. If it’s the same problem, it should have been, “We’ll replace all of them.” It was cheaper for me to get them all instead of making a claim for each of the smoke detectors. That didn’t make sense to me.

My AC died in the middle of a 100-degree heat wave. One of the fuses had blown. The issue was getting somebody out. The first tech they assigned was out of Lockhart. They told me they couldn't get out until a month and a half out. AHS reassigned my claim and the second tech was out in a week. I really appreciate AHS's service. What I've found is that I'll request outside authorization and they would give me the list of people I can't use. There's nobody in Cloverdale where I live as it's a bedroom town. It's always a struggle to get somebody without outside authorization. It takes four days to get that and it's constant conversation. Other than that, AHS has been great about paying this tech to fix my fridge.

The website of AHS was user-friendly when I submitted a claim. I received the name of the company and that they would be contacting me to set up an appointment. The interaction and the service of the tech was fine. He had to order a part. Then when he received the part, he contacted me, came back and installed the part. I've been very happy with my experience with AHS except for when someone came out Wednesday for the heat. And he said he couldn't fix it and he would contact the warranty company, but I haven't heard anything back from anybody. So I still don’t have heat. American Home Shield used to be cheap. Everything's all expensive now. And the calls are expensive. 100 hurts. When you flush the toilet, the water leaks. I noticed the tank was loose. So when you flush it, the water goes down. I was wondering about where the water was coming from. When that happened, I said, "We have three tanks that are similar to that." So, I tried the other tank but it did the same thing again. We also tried it in our master bathroom. But it was okay. There was no leak. When I called American Home Shield, that was when I reported that. I only reported one. But when I tried the other one, it also did the same thing. So, AHS did that service call for me. When the guy came, he said that the thing was loose. He tightened it and he changed some stuff inside because they were worn out already. Like rubber for when you flush it. They used the cheap kind for the previous. Everything is fine now.

My AC was not properly working. I had it serviced for its annual service and the techs put whatever stuff in it and fixed it. A couple days later, it stopped pushing cold air out and it got really hot in the house. So, I called back to have a new service done. The techs came out and changed out a converter. Then they said to give it a couple of days and it should fix itself. So I gave it a couple of days but it still wasn't pushing out any cold air. We came to find out that something had burst, so the techs came out and serviced it again. But the pipes were frozen and they said we had to wait until it unfreezes, then they'd be out the next day. The AC unit itself is fine. The techs went upstairs to check the other components, said a part of the fan was broken, and replaced it. And now it's working perfectly fine.
The techs were very professional, super polite, and knowledgeable. They helped out with every question that I had and gave really good recommendations. But they gave very extensive time for the scheduling. They were four to five-hour time slots and when I had an emergency the first day that they scheduled an appointment, they said they'd have to reschedule the whole thing again and we ended up getting rescheduled two days out. Other than that, it's very convenient that everything is covered under the warranty. It's clear what is being covered, which I like. Also, the price range is within the means of our finances. On 9/26/22, I called customer service to escalate the matter due to the following facts: The same contractor worked on the same appliance in Nov 2021, but the issue was not resolved. In Dec 2021, the same contractor installed a new motor on the furnace. Now, in Sept 2022, this contractor claims that the motor was not installed to code--the SAME motor that THEY installed! For these reasons, my repair/replacement should be covered by American Home Shield. I had to do the manual thing with the release so I can open and shut it manually until I could get it repaired. The tech was great. He arrived early in the window, which is always appreciated. He called me when he was on the way. He looked at the garage and I told him what was going on. I went back inside and then he called me about 20 minutes later. I came back outside and he told me that there was loose wiring. He fixed the wires up. He cleaned it up, and he stapled some of them to the wall because whoever installed it, installed all the wires loose and have used the wrong cap. So he cleaned everything up and tried to make it so that the wires weren't loose and hanging so that the normal movement of wind wouldn't knock them off.

We were turning our heater on for the first time of the year. When the thermostat kicked on and the heater came on, it was making a loud electric buzzing noise and there was some sparking. My wife called in a claim to American Home Shield and said it's with the HVAC heating and air conditioning unit. It got opened up as an air conditioning claim. A technician came and when I described the issue to the technician, he said I needed to call back and make it a heating claim as American Home Shield would need to differentiate. The technician wanted to make sure his paperwork was right. It was just an extra step to go through. If we had called in and said it was a drip from the sink but then he came and said it was an electrical issue, then I get that. But it's HVAC. The central heating and AC is the unit. It's the same thing. You open up the same door to access the same unit.
It shouldn't be on us to go in and correct that. We're the insured and we pay the policy. It's our responsibility to file the claim and report what's going on. My wife and I aren't technicians. Between American Home Shield that is the administrator of the policy and the technician that is the person servicing the policy, they should be able to sort that out. This was one minor annoyance that shouldn't have been there. But that was quickly resolved and got done. Other than that, everything else was fine. The service was excellent and the technician was very competent and professional.

Anytime you turn the garbage disposal on, it would shake back and forth so aggressively. You could see that it would start separating itself from the plumber’s putty. So that was when I started doing some research and found out that the home warranty actually does help cover maintenance of the garbage disposal. So I called American Home Shield and made the claim. National Plumbing came out and started looking at it. The garbage disposal was shaking back and forth so much and it was breaking the bearings and causing it to come loose. So it kept separating itself from the sink. The tech ended up replacing the garbage disposal and redoing the bearings.
National Plumbing was great. I was really impressed. They came out the day after I made the claim. So it was really, really fast. They showed up on time. The tech explained everything to me really well before he did anything. He fixed it very quickly. Even though he had to go buy the parts at the store, he was still there and straight back, and had everything completely done and fixed in less than an hour. So that was really helpful. This was the second claim I've had to make with American Home Shield and it’s been the easiest thing. All the contractors that they've sent out have been wonderful.

I had claims with AHS for my fridge, my dryer, and my washer. The tech they sent out to work on those was on time and perfect. But I'm still fighting with American Home Shield about my AC. It's got a bad condensing coil and the unit’s 20-something years old. It'll go on, then it just shuts off because it's pulling too much amperage since the condensing unit’s damaged. And my electric bill’s been over $800 the past four or five months.
I called AHS in August and they sent a company out here that said the problem was due to rodents. But I don't have rodents and there was no evidence of rodents. The techs were not even from here and I had no idea why they would say that. AHS then sent a second opinion and the technician told me that it was due to normal wear and tear and the unit needs to be replaced. He told American Home Shield that as well but American Home Shield told the office manager lady that they saw on their record that there was a storm two years ago. So, if the problem was caused by a storm, they were not going to cover it.
I tried to talk to the escalation department and their rep said that he was going to email that technician and have them get back to us. Then I called again and talked to a lady. She called the technician's office manager, and the office manager told her on the phone that is recorded, that it is normal wear and tear, they've been nursing the unit for four years, and it needs to be replaced. But the lady said that the office manager was telling the wrong department and that she needed to call back this number and tell them. But that was just American Home Shield shopping for a reason not to replace my unit.
Now, the office manager had a family emergency and she's not in the office. I told the rep from AHS about it and asked him what should I do. He just told me to sit down and wait until she gets back. Their process is so messed up. Hypothetically, if AHS doesn't cover anything because of a storm which happened two years ago, why have they been working on my unit every year since then? It's also very hard to understand them when I talk to them and you can never get the same person. If they don't put the notes in there, then the person has no idea what you're talking about. Also, to get anything done through AHS, you have to stay on top of it because if you don't, it won't happen.

No one told us that we could have had the option of getting a card, a visa, to go pick the dryer out ourselves or if we wanted to do it online. They just said, "You can go to the website and order what you want." So we went online and ordered what we wanted. They brought the dryer, and then the guy said, "Someone will call you tomorrow and hook it up." I said, "It's not getting hooked up today?" He said, "No, because we don't do gas."
American Home Shield gave me a number to one of the plumbers. The guy said he couldn't do it because he was too booked. They sent me another guy's number, and I called. They couldn't send me anybody else until after the 48 hours were up. The guy never called me back, he didn't answer their emails and didn't answer their calls. Then AHS sent me the number to the first plumber. The first plumber said, "I told them, I didn't have time to do it." So then, they sent me Murray's and Murray's said, "What's the problem?" Told them the problem, they sent somebody the next day and it was done.
Plus, in the beginning, after the first two guys didn't work out, they said, "If you find your own, then you could let them do it and we'll reimburse you." I said, "Okay." We found somebody to do it, and then they came and did it. But they messed it up, too. Because we told them it was a leak. They said, "We can't do anything about it." It was incompatible. It didn't work. I had to call out a new plumber myself and they fixed the issue that American Home Shield didn't cover.

The garage door wasn't working. Sam's Garage came out and they were awesome. I liked the tech. He was very helpful, quick and polite. So far, I'm happy with AHS.

I called and spoke with a representative regarding a leak from a bowl. It was leaking from the top of a pipe. Customer service was very good at getting that done. I tried the online option but it didn’t work well for me. A tech came and he was very professional. I was very pleased and it's been pretty good. I have two homes and I use American Home Shield on both of them. I’m a Realtor and whenever I buy my clients a warranty, I buy American Home Shield. I used to do 2-10 but my clients complained horribly about them. I used American Home Shield in 2000 and I tried it first on my home. That went well. From that point on, I started using them with all my closings.

I had to replace a refrigerator down at my house in North Myrtle Beach. When the contractor came out, they could not put the refrigerator in because one of the lines ran underneath the house. I had to call somebody else to get them to put the new refrigerator in. Every time I called American Home Shield, I always got the runaround between them and the service people that they sent out. They were going back and forth. I was always calling them to get an update.

We had a washer that stopped working correctly, and American Home Shield arranged a replacement, which we're still waiting on. We had a weather thing happened here and so our road was closed. But they're replacing it with a similar washer, and it was very easy to deal with. The repair person that came out was really helpful and knew what the problem was right away and was able to diagnose it and get it into the dispatcher. Everything happened pretty quickly from there. But American Home Shield could make more money if they would give you the option to buy a dryer at the same time they're replacing your washer. Because you want to have a matching one, and it seemed a really good opportunity to give me the option to just buy it and have it delivered by the same people.

We had our dishwasher worked on through American Home Shield. We started it one day, and it quit mid-cycle. We originally didn't really know what was going on. The tech came out and rewired something on the inside and that was the extent of it. He was great.
