    Every time I call American Home Shield, it’s $89. The contractors come here for two minutes, and they go. That’s not fair. I don’t know if we’re gonna continue with them after the year or not. I've used them twice. The first claim was for the AC unit. It was a bad experience. The second one was worse. It’s not American Home Shield, it’s the vendors that they use.

    With the AC, I told them the downstairs was cooling, but not the upstairs. They sent a technician who spent less than three minutes inside my house. He walked in and was very disrespectful. He just went upstairs without taking his shoes off. He came downstairs and said, "You need a new thermostat that is gonna close automatically the downstairs and it’s open upstairs. It’s about $4,000. This is the paper. We don't cover that. If you want to work, give me a call.” I called American Home Shield. I told them that was not fair. I had no idea what he said. He just went upstairs and did absolutely nothing. He didn’t check the AC unit or the condenser. He just left. He said it was $4,000 to fix the unit but I fixed my AC for $300. The other guys came and said I got something on my ducts.

    The second claim experience was the most frustrating. There was a leak in the bathroom coming downstairs to the dining room, on the table. The lady was very clear. She said, “We’re gonna repair whatever is wrong, but not the damage that it caused like the ceiling, painting, etc.” The contractor came, took off where you turn the water on and off, put some tape, and left. On that same day, the water was coming down. I called in and American Home Shield said, “Sir, it's not us, it’s the vendor and the vendor cannot go today. Maybe tomorrow.” The next day, the same guy came. He looked at it, took it off again, and made a video call to his boss. He had no clue what he was doing and left. They could not fix it because they needed to change something, and it was not covered. I would have to pay $278 which is not a problem. I just wanted it to be fixed. They said, “It’s not gonna be today, it’s gonna be any other day.”

    At night time, my wife was gonna take a shower. She was about to open the water but found everything was on the bathtub. He didn’t put it back. I called and said, “You guys are ridiculous.” The guy said, “Sir, it doesn’t work anyways.” I said, “It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work. You have to put everything back. You’re telling me that I’m gonna go to your house, do a job, but because I cannot do the job, I’m just gonna leave a mess, everything that I took apart?”

    I called the company and told them I didn't want any more business with them. The manager said, “Hey, I’m so sorry. I was the one on the phone with him. He’s new.” I said, “How do you send somebody that is new, that has no idea how to work to fix a property? That’s not fair. I’m paying money for this.” The manager hung up the phone with me but probably realized I was gonna put a complaint in. He called me back. He came early in the morning, and he fixed it. He had to remove some pipes, do some welding and put all the stuff. Now, it’s perfect. But it took for me to get upset and a lot of phone calls. They need some serious training in customer service. I’m an international flight attendant for United Airlines and I deal with passengers all the time. Even if they’re not right, first, listen to the customer.

    We had a dryer that the tech fixed right away as well as a furnace. So, it’s all been good. K & S Heating, the contractor, was very good, professional and nice.     The first time I had to call American Home Shield out, they didn’t do anything. They said my contract was too new and they weren't gonna fix my air conditioner or heater. So, I have none at all right now. Still, I highly recommend them. It's nice to have something just in case something goes wrong in your home.

    The AC just stopped working and I did the claim online with American Home Shield. On the email, it said that the contractor would reach out to us or we could reach out to them. So, my husband called the same day that we made the claim. They understood it was hot and they got somebody out within 20 minutes of the phone call. They got it all done promptly. They came in, did the normal checks on the inside and outside, and found what it was. The part was small enough and common enough that they had it, and they fixed it right away.

    I've had AHS for four years and I've had a good experience. But recently, I'm just having a tough time. My complaint about my pool pump was they sent us people three times. They came and did some patchwork. They said, "Your pool pump is making such vibrating," to the point that I have my bedroom shaking when the pump is on, but they won't replace it. So, I really don't know what's going on. There's one word they're sticking to for the whole year, mechanically no failure. I'm gonna pay for the replacement myself now. Then, I have a thing with my refrigerator, the door doesn't close all the way. It is opened up very easily. So, the cooling is getting affected. Today, they told me all they need to change is the rubber lining. It is brittle because of time. They also told me they couldn't change it because it's bad due to mold. But for the microwave claim, they said they can replace it.

    I've had good experiences with American Home Shield. Recently, there was no electricity out to the shed. The tech started looking for where the problem was, and checking the fuse boxes, plugs and circuitry, and figured out that it was the fountain out back had a motor that was bad and it was tripping the GFI. It's on a plug-in. If you have an outlet, and it has a little reset button on there, that's where it pops. The tech said I need to get a new motor for the fountain. We can't use it. We just turned it off.

    The motor on my AC went out so I did a claim with American Home Shield online. The tech was very nice and he gave me step-by-step details. I really liked him. I had one plumber for another claim who just wanted money. He wasn't trying to explain and I told him I wanted him to explain because he was getting my money so I needed to know. With this plumbing issue, the techs were saying that the valves were not covered. I’m coming out of pocket for that. Someone is supposed to be calling within 24 hours but no one called.

    This plumbing claim was for my water heater. It's valves for the water heater as well as the furnace. They said, “We don't install them.” I said, “It's already installed. And could you explain to me what do you mean by install? Because any time you come fixing something, that's like you’re installing it. Like when you had to put that AC motor back in it, you had to install it back in there. So, what are you saying?” He was like, "It'd have to already be there." I said, “The valve is there. I need to get it replaced.” It’s going in with the hot water heater. He kept telling me they didn't cover that.

    A rep told me she would put an order in and I would have to pay the $75 service fee. But I was then told they were not gonna be able to cover it. I hope I'm not losing $75. I did read where it said that American Home Shield doesn't cover the roof if it's being penetrated by skylight or chimneys. I'm paying extra for the chimney. I'm paying $91 a month.

    American Home Shield is a one way communication to me. They are very aggressive, and there's no compromising. Nobody cares what to do. I am just with them because I am so busy I don't have a time to shop for it. If I have a time, I will definitely change. I have a monthly invoice for $75. But all of a sudden now it's 97. I called them back and they said, "This is our new prices." I said, "Well, did you not even think of speaking to a customer and telling the prices are changing by 20%?" They told me, "Oh, if you want, you can stop the services. Thank you. Bye." But the team that takes the order of anything broken is very good. The reason they're good is because they're sitting in the Philippines. If they were sitting over here, they will be the same like everybody else.

    The problem with the contractors is they are backed up. Once they receive a request, they have to do their own scheduling. So if there is something urgent, forget it. You will not get a service. By the time you call and somebody comes in, it's a three-day turnaround time. The main issue I have with American Home Shield is the person you are talking to. In any organization, if you are not satisfied you go one level above. But in American Home Shield, there is nobody. The person you are speaking to is the ultimate god. That's the only final person you're going to get to.

    We have used American Home Shield once and it was great. The AC wasn't turning on. We had just been on vacation and we got back, walked in the house, and it was hot in here. The unit never came on until the contractor came out. The only thing that stressed me out about it, and it's probably just the way it works, it took them two days to get here. I wanted them to come the next day. But they didn't come until the day after that. I'm guessing they were busy. That was a bit frustrating because it was hot. But we lived through it. They came and fixed it, and all was good.

    American Home Shield assigned Loyalty Plumbing to come out and look at the leak. The water was pouring all over our patio, coming out of the utility room where the water heater was. The plumber, Mark, pulled up in a truck and said, “I don't have a new water heater with me, but we can get one.” I said, “It's not the heater. It's underneath the slab, pouring out.” We turned the water on for him and it poured all over the patio. He said, “We’ll have to get a mitigation team out here. There'll be by in an hour,” and left.

    In an hour, this guy from EcoDry came and was sticking his prong in the sheetrock, saying, “This all has to be ripped out. I don't have the papers. Just sign on my phone.” The walls didn't need to come out. If they were going to reroute, they’d go through the ceiling, not where he wanted the walls taken out. It was put on until Wednesday. When Mark came out again and we turned on the water again, he said, “It's a slab leak. We'll have to put in a new claim to American Home Shield and get this done.”

    American Home Shield called and told us we had to pay $1,700. The proposal was for $2,700 to repipe, and American Home Shield was only paying $1,000. I said, “Fine. But they have to find the leak.” Loyalty Plumbing called and asked for my credit card. I said, “You haven't explained to me yet what you're doing. Are you going through the wall? Through the ceiling? What's happening?” The rep insisted on getting my credit card. I told her I was not comfortable with that. She said before they could start, I had to pay my portion. I told her she had to explain to me what they were going to do. I called American Home Shield back and they said I was responsible for 1,700. I told them I knew that and didn't have a problem with it but I wanted to know what they were doing. The rep said I'd have to give Loyalty Plumbing my credit card.

    I called Loyalty back, and the rep said, “No, we won't take your credit card. Our manager doesn't feel comfortable taking your card because you weren't comfortable with us taking it.” They walked away. It was an hour on the phone trying to get something else resolved. We decided we'd take the cash payout and get our own plumber because American Home Shield was not going to give us another plumber. They said, “No, You have Loyalty. If you have to start a new claim, then pay another $100 for a new plumber.” I did that and when they sent the payout, it was for 945. They said, "This does not get sent to you until you furnish us with a completion bill from the other company.” American Home Shield has not made us happy campers. I had spent, since Monday, at least 10 hours on the phone, waiting to be connected. You put up with them trying to get the water fixed but you're getting no answers. It's been very stressful.

    My dishwasher broke. I put in a claim online and American Home Shield had Sears call and ask me for information on the unit. They took things like serial numbers. I even sent them a picture of where it was broken and what I felt was wrong with it. Sears then ordered the parts so that it was here when they got here. The part was here when they got here, and then all they had to do was put it on. So, it saved them a trip out, and then they didn't have to come back because they didn't have the part. I am a lot more comfortable with American Home Shield using Sears as their main supplier of work due to the fact that I had had another home warranty company and they kept sending people out that were at the bottom of the barrel as far as people that were working on houses.

    No matter what happens or who AHS used to get something fixed, it's always a very small company because they're never in a company car. It's their personal car with some tools in the back. They appear to cater to a certain demographic. I don't care who fixes my stuff. It's just a strange coincidence that no matter what it is, the people speak the same language. Sometimes it's difficult when you're trying to explain something and their English isn't very good. But I can deal with that. They're hard workers. They get the stuff done. They appear to have a good knowledge base on it. Skill set wise, the guy was fine. He had all the tools and got the job fixed.

    The biggest problem I have with American Home Shield is the time it takes to do stuff if something breaks. In most things, they will get your stuff fixed. But for what we pay, plus the copay, they aren't fast enough. Our refrigerator went out a few weeks ago and it took three weeks to get somebody out before it was finally fixed. Three weeks to get your refrigerator going when you have a warranty that's supposed to cover that is excess is too slow. So, I was not happy with that. If they could just speed up stuff, it would be a lot better.

    I've been with American Home Shield for several years now and if I have a problem, I always call them. One thing I appreciate about them is I don't have to search for somebody to do what I need to be done. I call the home warranty and they contact somebody and send them out. My air conditioner is old and uses the old type of Freon. About every two years, it has to be recharged. I liked the techs that came. American Home Shield is a good plan and I have told people about it. I may have had some people sign up for it.

    I did a claim for my GE microwave and American Home Shield connected me with a GE person. That was back in July. I work remotely Thursdays and Fridays. I told the GE technician that next Thursday would be fine. A technician came out and was here for two minutes. He said he had to order parts for the microwave. After ordering, he said that the parts were not going to come in for another month. He told me it was gonna be like August 25th. This was in the middle of July. Nobody confirmed any appointments. The parts came in two days later and were stuck in my living room for over a month. I was told that they tried to reach out to me. They have my contact numbers and my email. I received nothing.

    I called American Home Shield again and that's when they sent Steven, an appliance guy. Steven came on the first or second week of September. He looked at the microwave and said that the fuse was blown. The microwave worked for him but when I tried it at around 8:00 at night, the thing didn't work. Steven came back again and he says, "This is what we need to do with this," and he ordered parts. When the parts came in, Steven came back. It worked two times then it stopped working again. Steven came back again. After the fourth time, I asked why they just don't replace the microwave. It just made no sense economically or financially. This microwave costs $180. American Home Shield spent over $180 just to get these contractors in and out and then ordering parts.

    This microwave is one on top of the stove. The last time Steven came in, he fixed the microwave and everything was good. It's still working right now and I'm happy. Steven was super but he told me he had to play by the protocols of what American Home Shield puts in place. I am dissatisfied with American Home Shield's systems. When something's broken, it's broken. The contract that I signed said that if they can't fix it, they'll replace it.

    Contractors usually fix the problem. But this one, I don't know what's going on with it. They have come three times, but the problem is still the same. My dryer wasn't drying up good. I keep putting it on on. The tech came. He said he fixed it, but the problem wasn't solved. So, I told him again. He said he would change the timer on it. It's worse than it was before. It makes a weird, loud noise. Plus, I can time only one cycle. I could dry now if I put it on time, I put 40 minutes time. Otherwise, none of the other cycle is drying up. Even if I put it on jeans or extra hard, it's not working.

    American Home Shield is supposed to send somebody again. That has been 10 days ago. They said, "Somebody will call you for service again." But nobody called yet. I wish they could handle this situation better than they did. Because I'm not drying my clothes anymore. I'm having a hard time. That noise is bothering me. But last year, I had a problem with the roof. They fixed it. I had a problem with the heat, they did it. I recommended AHS to a couple of people.

    My washing machine went out and AHS sent someone out to repair it. The contractor said it broke because I overloaded it and AHS wouldn't buy me a new one. I said I want a second opinion and AHS sent someone else out. The second contractor said the same thing. I ended up buying my own washing machine. I also had a claim for a 15-year-old microwave that stopped turning. They sent out someone to repair it but it broke again. They called the original GE people and they said the unit is so old. Why didn't AHS just replace it? I hate their services. They are the absolute worst. I'm always shelling out $100 to wait two weeks plus to get somebody to come to look at something.

    It's nice having an insurance policy that when something goes wrong, it covers that. During the year, you wonder if you really need it. But all of a sudden, you have a problem and it's all more than worth it. American Home Shield just saved 500 bucks. Technicians dropped off a new washing machine and took the old one. We are entirely happy. We also had another claim where technicians came out and refilled the refrigerant of our AC. They were great guys.

    I like American Home Shield. The claim for the AC with Same Day Air Repair was great, other than they never got out the same day like they said. Right now, I'm having a serious problem with the contractor that American Home Shield put on a job here for a plumbing leak. There's a water supply leak in the wall of the shower. The plumbing outfit came out and located where the leak was. They said they were going to have a company come out and open it up and make things right in that respect. Then they'd be back that afternoon to fix the leak. That was two days ago.

    I called American Home Shield back late yesterday because it was obvious the plumbers weren't coming out and told them what was going on. They said they were gonna redo that. They were going to contact the same contractor. While we were talking I got a text from that outfit, wanting to see if they could set up a time. But it's just the natural way that things work.     I bought the house on the condition that the person selling the house would have insurance to replace anything that went wrong in the first year that I lived there. And it was American Home Shield that they used. Sure enough, I had a furnace, air conditioner, and hot water heater go out within the first year and they were taken care of.

    Recently, the water heater's bottom had leaked. There was a hole in the bottom. All the water was leaking out. It was 10 years old. I submitted the claim, and within two hours, the company called me and made an appointment. The next day, the contractor came and checked everything out to see what was going on. The contractor was professional and respectful. They cleaned up their mess when we were done. I’d hire them again. It went pgood, except American Home Shield called me and said that I had to take a check because I would have to get it installed myself. Somebody said, “Well, you don't have enough room.” I don't know why, because I had a 50-gallon heater in there, and they put a 50-gallon heater back, and it fit in the same place.

    My expectation when I bought this insurance years ago was that they would be willing to help me when I had a problem. But all I got was, “We'll send you a check because we can't do the work. So, you have to call a company, set it up, and they'll install it. You pay them, then we'll pay you after you prove to us that it was done.” I’m not sure that the person that I talked to was even in this country, from the sound of his accent. I am very impressed with the contractor, but very unimpressed with American Home Shield. I am debating whether to keep my insurance with this company.

    We had a water heater issue and we were up against the wall as far as timing. When I called American Home Shield, they sent someone out. This was the weekend, so they had someone here on Monday and that was the Bear Plumbing. The gentleman came, assessed, and returned with his report to AHS. I'm quasi-satisfied with the report because, as I read the contract, it appeared to me that the water heater was within the terms of the contract to be repaired. However, they denied. It's dubious language. When I spoke with their representative, they were going to refund me part of the payment. I later received a letter saying that they didn't find anything wrong. So, I haven't heard any more about the refund of the payment. But all other areas of their performance was good. They were efficient.

    I had a leak from my AC unit upstairs. When my AC people came and put the new AC in, they didn’t connect the drain. So, instead of going to the new drain where it goes out, it went to the old. And it was dripping down to my dining room table downstairs. Whenever I have a contractor that comes out, I would like American Home Shield to give me some sort of paperwork just so I have a record of it. But I didn’t receive that this time. Would I need to contact a plumber for that? Because he said he would send me something, but he never did. Other than that, the techs were awesome. We didn’t know where the water was coming from.     The guy, Mike, was nice and patient, and the service was very good. The contractor was the second company that came out because the first one came out and then never even called me back. So, I was happy that this guy even called back. They were in Orlando and it took a while to get the parts. But once he got them, he came out on the same day, took my old one and put the new one in.

    You can’t reach American Home Shield by phone. It’s impossible. You call and you're literally on hold for at least an hour. The reps don’t speak English and you end up in this whole pattern. They aren’t able to help you and you don't have any service at all until you pay your deductible. But you have to have an American Home Shield Warranty. Otherwise, you put yourself at risk. This repair without them would have run probably $8,000 to $10,000. With the noncovered parts of it, it was about 2,000. So as a homeowner, I'm not going to be without AHS or some sort of warranty. I’m gonna go back with AHS again though they are not my favorite.

    American Home Shield makes it seem like they cover so many things, but then when you get down to it, they say, “Oh, no. Actually, can't repair this because X this and Y that. Technically, we don’t cover that. Your contract's gonna say 'but'." My air conditioner was shot and I needed the system to be replaced. They said, “Oh, you can just replace the refrigerant unit in the middle.” So they want me to spend $3,000 on the refrigerant system when the rest of the furnace could go up because that's in their byline. But replacing the system would be less cost to them in the long run. So it doesn't make sense for me financially, and it technically doesn't make sense for them financially. But what they're hoping is that I'll stop being a consumer of theirs in the long run. So it's garbage. I don't like that very much. But they've done good on finding the right contractors. So that's nice.

    So far, so good. I needed clarification at one point on what was covered and what wasn't, and we got through that. On the first service I needed, we got it taken care of, and it seems to be going good. There was some clog somewhere in the system. Because they couldn't unstop it at the main valve, they had to empty the septic and reverse flush it. They were knowledgeable, prompt, and seemed to know what we needed done. However, it took out a lot to get the actual right coverage sorted out. American Home Shield's wording on one of the paragraphs that seemed like the septic was not a separate coverage seemed like it was included as either once a year or once a contract thing, but it's its own separate coverage. That wording could be more explicit.

    The garage door was stuck, and I used American Home Shield and they fixed it. This time, the process was fast. But I had a claim for the cooling system and it took some time to fix. I called the contracted company and they said they were too busy. They said they couldn't come in and it would take them two weeks. I called American Home Shield and I told them if they could find another company. But they said they can't find another company at least for a day because their policy is to wait for a day and if no one attends to the service, then they take time to look for another company. So that was a slow experience. But I have had a fine experience with American Home Shield. You just have to log in, open up a ticket, and they'll call the nearest company that can work on your claim.

    I had gone downstairs where the washer and dryer are, and there was water on my carpet down there. We had A-Tech come out and look at it. The tech said he couldn’t fix the leak. So then, Sears was called out. They came out but they couldn’t fix the leak. The tech said it was a backup in the drain on the floor. So, we had to call the plumber. Then the plumber got involved and he said, “The pipe runs behind the washer. It doesn’t have anything to do with the floor.” So, he went and he waited and ran the water.

    American Home Shield wanted A-Tech to come back out. But I said, “I don’t want somebody out that’s been out before because it’s not gonna help me. They don’t know what to do.” So then, they said, “Well, we’ll get Sears out.” I said, “I don’t want Sears out because they were out before and couldn’t help me either.” So then, we got R.A.M.S. Mechanical, which was our last people. The tech came out and said it was the sensor and whatever else part he had to order. Then he said he ordered them, and he said they probably would come in Thursday, today, and then we could get it fixed. I texted him about three times, and I haven't heard back yet. American Home Shield had been great with us before. We’ve really had good experiences with them. But this time was a struggle.

    The service has been good except for the last time. There was a hiccup as far as communication. I had a tech come out. He didn't have the part on his truck. He said he would go back to his shop, call me back and let me know what was going on. But he never called me back. I ended up calling American Home Shield. They told me that it was gonna be replaced, and I went that route. But there was too much timeframe in there to not take care of that service.     My heat kept running. The tech said the problem was a capacitor. It was pretty quick. He took some stuff up to the system outside and then he came in and went to his truck and went back out. Then he came in and said, "I fixed the problem." He checked the thermostat and made sure everything was working the way it was supposed to. He showed me the part he replaced and it's been okay since.

    I've had American Home Shield for several years and I've been happy with them. Earlier this year, my washer went out on me. The contractor came and it was a little bit upsetting. But that wasn't American Home Shield's fault. It was an appliance company that they sent and I filed a big complaint. The appliance company kept dragging it out as far as the parts were not coming in. That was when I called American Home Shield and then they called off the repair and offered me a replacement. So I got a new washer out of that part.

    The refrigerator part was super cold on the bottom and warm on the top. The contractor came the same day I submitted the claim to American Home Shield and the techs were great. They had to get a part and it came in on a Friday afternoon. It didn't get put in until the next Monday. So, it took about a week. But they got that installed fast.     American Home Shield covers items and takes care of things. That's what I like the most about them. But their promises have not necessarily panned out in the last few years. With one claim I had, the contractor came and was supposed to be looking at the problem. Their tech said he was going to get the plumbing parts and be back. He would put the information in for the gas leak repairs. But he never came back and the company never contacted me. It's been going on for more than a month now.

    I would not necessarily recommend American Home Shield to other people because in the last few years since they've grown in popularity and grown as a company, their customer service has not been that wonderful. They really are not sticking to their word and they put up so many roadblocks. The company that I started with is not the one that I wound up with. They seem to be more concerned with the fact that they need to get things documented. There are delays from this end to that end. The process to get things authorized is lengthening. You call them and pay your deductible on the phone.

    The person that shows up isn't necessarily qualified or the quality of the contractor that they had chosen is lesser. They either don't have all the equipment or American Home Shield is picking the lowest bidder to show up and they don't do the work very well. Years ago, I had a motor on my heater go. American Home Shield replaced it. Unfortunately, the contractor set it too high so it burnt out. They replaced that motor at least twice after the original repair. The quality of their contractors has slipped.

    One contractor I had was DMV Plumbing and I will never have them back to my house ever. There was a second opinion plumber that was excellent that American Home Shield connected me with. Unfortunately, American Home Shield chose not to cover the repair for the fact that it needed to be pressure tested. I had to pay for pressure testing of my gas system. The gas was disconnected because the gas company found a gas leak. I had been jerked around for more than two weeks for this and the newest company had to submit all this information about what they found. The second company never fixed the problem and I gave up. I will be appealing this. I'm not too pleased in that regard.

    The light would come on whenever it felt like it on the inside of the microwave. The numbers on the screen would also do whatever they felt like. Even if you're not using it, the numbers would jump around. Sometimes you would get the microwave started, and the light might not come on on the inside of the microwave. It’s still making the sound as if it's heating it up, but there's no light. The exhaust fan would work when it felt like it. Sometimes it would come on on its own. I placed the claim with American Home Shield, and then they sent someone out.

    The first guy came and looked at it, and he never reported back to us. My wife spoke to him when he came, and she relayed the message to me. He said, “Yes, it’s very old. We're gonna see if they could find parts for it. I'm not even sure because it's so old. I’ll get back to you in a day or two.” A three-week period went by and no response.

    I called back American Home Shield and they sent out a second technician. He did a great job. He explained everything to me to the fullest. While I was explaining the problems to him, he was trying to see if he could get some of those problems to act up. We had put something in the microwave to heat up and the only thing that he noticed was the numbers are jumping around as it was heating. But I told him there were more things than that that it was doing. He said he had to check to see if there were any parts for this microwave but he didn't think they made these parts anymore. Within 24 hours, he got back to me, and said, “Yeah, just like I thought, they don't even make these parts anymore. So I'm gonna put in for a new microwave.” He was excellent.

    In August the 28th, I discovered that it was so hot inside and I figured that the thermostat didn't match what was going on with the temperature. So, I immediately cut it off and called American Home Shield. They had to call their contract people and then set up the appointment. So, it took a couple days for Smith and Company to come out. They did what they had to do and were nice. They suggested what was going on but we kept waiting for American Home Shield, which is despicable. In the past, they have done good. This is the first appointment that I'm having a problem with. They have done good with their contractors but I don't know what happened this time. I wouldn't recommend AHS after this issue. I’m disappointed. I’ve had them for 15 years, which is too long to be treated like this. Even while we’re trying to find out what's going on, they still take my money out each month but I'm getting nothing in return and that's not fair.

    The microwave wasn't fully heating and the dishwasher wasn't draining nor cleaning. The techs only fixed the microwave. Then, American Home Shield did a refund for the value of the dishwasher so we could purchase it. But the company wasn't informed that AHS did that. So, I was sitting for almost a month without the appliances fixed. The company was still waiting for parts for the dishwasher.

    I don't usually have a good experience with AHS. They mess up in so many instances with my policies. I have five of my houses with them and for one, they never even wrote a policy. I prepaid a year for all of the five which I was supposed to be discounted at. I ended up not getting discounted. It's so messy.

    The dishwasher wouldn't work and the door on the microwave broke. AHS sent out Book's Appliance Repair LLC and both my microwave and my dishwasher were replaced. Book has been been awesome. I couldn't ask for any better service than I got and I've recommended them to others. Other than that, I'm not really a techie person but when I use American Home Shield's website for my claims, it's extremely easy. They also always send you emails and texts to let you know who's coming and how long you should have to wait to get a response from them. Their follow-up is extremely good as well. Whenever we use the warranty, most of the time, it's within a day or two that everything's right. Once in a while, there's a hiccup where you can't get a part and you have to wait because of the supply lines nowadays.     I had a leak in the hot water tank. The tech came out and fixed it real quick. He made sure it was closed. American Home Shield is great. But we started off on rocky ground. My Samsung refrigerator went out and the repair took forever. Sears came out and ordered three parts. Two of the parts came, and one part didn’t come. It took about another two weeks before the other part came. So I was out a refrigerator for about three months and that was during the holidays. They finally got it done. But it was a mess. I almost dropped American Home Shield. While that was going on, the hot water tank went out. They sent another guy out and he came out right away.

They took pictures and I liked how they did it because they actually see the part or what is wrong before they send somebody. The techs can come with the part if they have it on hand. Somebody came out and found the problem. He noticed my light was out and he fixed that promptly. He went beyond doing stuff. With American Home Shield, I like that I don't have to really look for anybody. I can call the place and they’ll survey the situation and they find out what the issue is. They're on it promptly.     I like that AHS is fast and efficient. Recently, T Mayes had to come out because my water heater started leaking. They had to do a video call so that they could see what the issues are. They said they were sending some information over to AHS in order to see what the next step was. Now, I'm just waiting for that. It hasn't been repaired. The water is still leaking. I also had a claim for the washing machine that went kaput a couple of weeks after moving in. They replaced the washing machine within two days and I was very happy with that. AHS was right on time.     My microwave stopped working and Sears came out. This was an odd microwave that they don't even sell it anymore and I didn't want any replacement.     I felt a lot of condensation on the heater and the heating guy who came out said it was a filter problem. I didn't think it was the problem, but I changed the filter and that was the end of that. I also had an extra filter, so I didn't need his help for that. So far, I'm monitoring the heater and seeing if there's more condensation.     When I submit a claim with AHS, the technicians would usually come out within 24 to 48 hour. Recently, my air conditioner wasn't cooling and the techs from Stephen Rae did well in fixing it. Then, I had an issue with my washing machine and AHS assigned Queen City Appliance to repair it. The tech came out to look at my washer and told me that they were going to have to order several parts. He told me it would take up to 10 days to get the parts and I told him that I couldn't go without a washer for 10 days. And I don't do the washateria around here because they're all nasty to me. So in the process, I went ahead and purchased a new washer. In the meantime, I was going to let them fix my old one and I was just going to sell it to get my deductible back.

    12 days went by and I still hadn't heard anything, so I called Queen City Appliance several times. They wouldn't answer their phone and a few minutes after I called several times, American Home Shield sent me an email stating that Queen City Appliance turned in their report and that parts were being ordered. So I called American Home Shield and they told me that Queen City Appliance had just turned in their report that day. I asked how long do they normally have to turn in their report and the rep said that they have to turn it in within 48 hours. So I asked what was going to happen since it had been 12 days. I was told that they were just going to order the parts and that they were sorry I had that experience. I was pissed off after this time and I do not want to use Queen City Appliance again.

    So I had to wait another 10 days for them to come repair my washer and it is still not fixed completely. They're saying that there's nothing wrong with it, but it's making a loud squeaking noise. They’re saying the squeaking noise has nothing to do with what they fixed but I told them that my washer was not squeaking before they fixed it. So now I'm donating the washer instead of selling it. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with AHS. They are not the problem. It's Queen City Appliance.

    The previous time, AHS sent me a contractor from Baltimore City. He submitted exaggerated estimates for us and he wanted to charge 1,500 from American Home Shield. He also charged me 500 to do work according to his estimate. He rejects the work and so AHS sent Champion Home Improvements. They submitted an estimate for me and told me what they were gonna do. The same day, AHS approved it and after a couple of hours, Champion came back and fixed all the shingles. They also saw some things around the vent and they covered that one.     The gentleman that came out was awesome. He got the AC working and explained what was going on with it. A week or so later, the same thing happened again. AHS called him, he came out again, and fixed it. The air conditioner kept freezing up and it was a block of ice when he opened it. Then he fixed it once more. But it happened again a week or so later and I’m still waiting on that.

    The tech said he had taken some of the Freon out because it had too much in it. Then he said when he came back that he might have taken too much out. So he put more back in it. He came out three times already. While we're waiting for him to come out, when the AC is producing air instead of cold air, we turn off the AC for four hours. We're borrowing someone's window AC thing and we use that for those four hours. And we run the whole house fan. By the time we turn the AC back on four hours later, it starts to produce cold air because the block of ice unfreezes. Also, our windows aren’t made for window ACs, but we rigged it enough for us to run it. If it rains, we have to cover it with a plastic bag because then it gets inside the house.

    I called and asked AHS how long we have to keep this up before they finally really do something to replace parts or whatever needs to be done. They have been great. But I wasn't very impressed that they said as long as the AC guy can keep fixing the AC, that's what they're gonna do. That is frustrating because my house gets up to 96.

    In the beginning, I seemed to need their service, I felt more confident. But every time I turn around now, they're changing the rate to hire someone to come out on the first trip. If the item doesn't work, I don't have to pay for another trip for them to come out if it's the same thing. I'm having mixed feelings about paying that amount of money.     A garage door opener got put in my home and it was fine but now, my garage door is unrepairable. I need a whole brand-new one and American Home Shield wouldn’t cover anything. So, I’m a little irritated about that. This is the first time I’ve run into an issue of them not covering an item. Generally, the techs have been fairly knowledgeable and helpful and I like that the AHS service covers the bulk of items within the home. I would like that copay to be a little cheaper since you are already paying a monthly or out of pocket. So sometimes, that $100 can be steep when you are needing things serviced. If I needed my garage looked at, I can only get my garage looked up for that 100. And I would have to do an additional 100 for the dishwasher even though they’re in the same time span. Otherwise, AHS is decent.

    I called American Home Shield and submitted the claim for my dryer. It was making this really loud screeching noise and it looked like something in the back was starting to come out. Also, the dryer door wouldn't stay open. You open the door and immediately, it would close again. Someone came out and everything was fixed except for the part where the dryer door doesn't close quite as fast. Unless I'm pushing it back, it'll close on its own again. It's a slower close. The tech did offer that if I pay $50 more, he would clean it all out and get all the lint out of the line. We did that. Overall, they were good and quick.

    AHS dropped the ball. I've been waiting for the plumbing company to come back and fix something that should have been done two weeks ago. The plumbing company did everything they were supposed to do. What AHS failed to do was call me and let me know the next step. I have five holes in my ceiling because they failed to follow up on what had to be done and left me under the impression that it wasn't covered. That's poor customer service. If I hadn't called to find out what was going on, they would have never called me. I'm a little upset with them.

    Updated on 11/16/2022: After a month of going back and forth with AHS and their Contractor, I have decided to not go with AHS service ever again. AHS only protect themselves and their subtractor 's interest by sacrificing consumer rights. Additionally, AHS/AXIS provided incorrect on the dates of repair to not cover my damages. I am disappointed and exhausted and will never ever go with AHS again.

    Original: I recently file a service request for my microwave and oven. The technician came and inspected both. No issues with oven since it was determined a part is needed for replacement. As for the microwave, the technician inspected the microwave and resolved the noise issue. However, microwave vent cover was not installed back properly. It was loosely sitting on the microwave. After couple days, the vent came off and fell on my cook top and cracked my cook top. After calling AHS and waited for an hr, they informed my they don't cover secondary damage. To me, this is unacceptable as the improper installation by AHS contactor resulted in a crack on my cook top.

    I signed up with this company (American Home Shield) about 4-5 years ago because my home was getting older and I knew I wouldn't be able to make any repairs or replacing my appliances due to income. Well to get to the point, starting about last August 2021, I started having problems with getting any repairs approved with them. I have spent roughly $400.00 (this was for 4 service request's costing $100 per repair order) to have them deny my repairs on my HVAC unit. I then spent my own money and hired a company called ARS service and repair, located in Manassas, Va. They came out to my home and did an amazing detailed inspection of my HVAC system. This inspection lasted for 2.5 hours.

    They detailed the 3 major problems with my system, A/C unit inside the heating system, needed the evaporation coil unit replaced, due to age and rust/corrosion causing many tiny pin holes in the coils making the refrigerant leak causing my system have to work extra hard just to keep my home cooled. A/C unit outside was leaking refrigerant at the systems port holes, (meaning that my system was too old for any repairs to help). Because AHS sent this awful company called A-Advance Home Service to my home to repair and or replace my HVAC system. The service technician spent a grand total of maybe 15 minutes on all 4 repair orders. This would include him walking up and down my stairs---ha-ha. He just told me to sign a service contract with his company to do a cleaning of my outside unit at a price of $499.00 and to stop asking for a repair order!! Mind you he never really even looked at the part of my system inside my house.

    This is a major system safety problem that made the company I paid for to complete inspection (ARS service and repair in Manassas, Va) the gas valve to my furnace was leaking gas, so he contacted Columbia Gas of Virginia to get instructions for me to adhere to. The gas company instructed my technician to shut off my supply line to my furnace till repairs could be made and be inspected by the Gas Company as safe to use the furnace. I had no heat for weeks!!!!

    I contacted American Home Shield several times, being placed on hold for hours, being told that I would have to pay again $100 for them to re-inspect my HVAC system, I insisted that they send out a different HVAC repair company and Not A-Advance services, they agreed after several attempts to get me to back down. Well this other company (American Group LLC) came to my home after about 8 days and The tech checked out my system and he told me the minimum 3 parts that are damaged and need to be replaced are only because the systems age and normal wear and tear. He also stated that AHS would never authorize this because that actually would mean the WHOLE system being replaced at a cost of $10,000 - $15,000 (I'm just guessing cause I never looked into the cost).

    He also told me that my outside unit wasn't that bad that it would require me to pay A-Advance Service $499 to clean. Now let's get to his explanation of my Gas Line Leak, he said for safety reasons he could not turn on my gas line to get heat into my home and that his company doesn't even do repairs on yellow gas lines valves because they are too old to mess with. I just don't know how I'm going to get my system replaced. I'm looking into Social Services program on getting repairs and or replacement to low income/senior citizens. This program though has a waiting list for applicants. I'm so upset about my warranty company doing tis to me that I haven't even contacted them again (I really need to).

There's been one claim that I have that has been a real problem and it remains an ongoing problem. But that's the contractor, not American Home Shield.     The first time the contractor came out, I had a leak in the wall between my half bathroom in the garage. The tech cut the sheetrock out of that area so he can see the pipes and he repaired the two pipes and the leaks there. He took me through every step of it, told me what he had to do, and showed me what the repairs were. I had another claim for a leak under my sink. I requested for the same tech and he said, "Your American Home Shield doesn't pay for this." It was a substantial repair, but it wasn't covered under my American Home Shield. But he was great.     I would recommend American Home Shield for big appliances, refrigerators, HVACs, and things of that nature. It’s something that everyone needs. I had to get my AC unit replaced, and I couldn’t pay $5,000 for it. American Home Shield helped with that, and I only paid 1,500. That’s still a lot, but it's better than 5 grand. Overall, I have no complaints at this time. However, I’m also having an ongoing issue with my refrigerator and it may have to be replaced when I get back home. So, we'll see how that goes. They sent Amtec Services and they were very efficient. If I made a claim today, they would either call me back the same day or the next day.

    It's been a while since I've been with American Home Shield and it's saving money at the end of the day for me. $100 is not that much when it comes to what I'm paying for my deductible. I'd rather pay that than pay the full cost of maybe repairing everything. The last time I had a claim was when there was water dripping from the AC. Tesseract Heating & Cooling came out and repaired some type of pipe and something with a pump that wasn't working properly. It took care of my problem. Prior to that, we had another AC claim and that had to do with the motor that stopped working. The unit was not cooling and they replaced the motor. But it took like two weeks and it was in the middle of summer. It was miserable.

    So far, I like American Home Shield. They always send somebody out. The latest time, we had a little bit of a leak due to some clogging with the air conditioner.     American Home Shield sent out a guy from The Shining Plumbing Knights for my toilet that wouldn't flush. He used the snake head, run through the toilet, and the clog was gone. A couple of days later, I saw that the water was still coming out from the back of the toilet. There's a hole at the back of the toilet. That’s probably because the way he ran the snake was too strong. It broke my toilet. I called American Home Shield but they did not do anything. They said that that’s my fault, that the toilet was broken by me, not by the contractor.

    I wasn’t getting any hot water. I called Aemrican Home Shield and it was relatively easy getting in contact with a rep. It was well over a week before a tech could come as he was tied up.     I spoke with someone from Home Shield for a claim and that was good. Them scheduling on the contractor's side, however, was a bit tricky. When the contractor Astro was calling to try to schedule, they were not able to so I had to call Home Shield to look into what was going on, which they promised me they would. They did and were able to get somebody over to fix the fridge. He checked the fridge and knew what he was doing. He ordered parts and he brought those back on a different day.

    The person Astro sent was efficient. Home Shield was okay too. They just need to follow up with their tradesmen to make sure when they schedule. They state to you what they want to do, they come, and they do it. My fridge is now fixed and it’s good. I was very satisfied with the work, apart from the problem I had with scheduling somebody to come. I also had a claim for my microwave. Nobody said anything about it. The guy with the refrigerator says he wasn't the one to do the microwave and he didn't even know about that.

    I've called American Home Shield a few times. The service has been okay. There are a few items that I had to purchase on my own because I didn't know that it wasn't covered. Nothing was explained to me why certain things weren't covered. So, I wasn't really happy about that. I had claims on the AC and dishwasher. I had to buy a brand-new dishwasher myself. With the AC repair, the guy did a little thing, but then it wasn't explained to me about the coolant that had to be put in there and how I had to pay for that. I was just told that all AC stuff will be 100% covered, and then I found out that I had a $200 bill I had to pay out of my own pocket. So, I haven't called them about anything else. I've been doing the repairs myself if it was something minor because I don't want to keep spending $100 every time I need to call somebody, and then it's like I have to pay for everything out of my pocket.

    My AC wasn't blowing cool air and it kept freezing up. A tech made a visit and said he couldn't get to it because the unit itself outside was sinking. Then that’s when he discovered the unit doesn't have the hurricane padding. I asked for his suggestion and he said he would put in the claim to get a new one because he could not get to the coils. For this first visit, he was there for about 35 minutes.

    The tech came back out a second time and my husband dug things up for him to check the coils and see what was going on. The whole process was waiting to see what their boss was gonna say and what price they were gonna give me. It was maybe an hour. The tech was supposed to put in a second claim. The first one was denied because American Home Shield said it was upkeep due to maintenance.

    Up until then, I was satisfied with American Home Shield. They’d paid and I was okay with it. But I didn't wanna keep paying for something I know eventually I'm gonna have to replace. I've been with the home warranty for two years and the unit has been serviced twice since then. I didn't want to just put down the pad and put the coolant in it. For the coolant itself, they only pay $10. It was gonna be $800 and my padding was gonna be 597 or something. It was going to be cheaper for me to replace and update the unit because it is 19 years old.

    American Home Shield was good because my washer and my dryer, which was very old, blew out. They kept on fixing it but they couldn't fix it anymore and they gave me a check for it. It took four months and I had to continuously call. So that was grueling. But we got it resolved after a couple of months. Complete Air was good and fixed the AC but the other company before them was not so good. We've had to call them out three times to fix stuff. So, it's hit or miss. The people that AHS send are looking to make a buck so you can’t trust them. If they can sell you an AC unit, they will. The tech did his job but the person on the phone was more like he was trying to sell me a unit. There's no telling who AHS would send. The only thing they can provide is a licensed tech and I get it but I'm up on the fence with it. At the end, it depends on who AHS is sending out.

    Having a home warranty cuts through a lot of hunting and searching for getting repairs done on everything that's covered. We have a pretty good size program with them. They've been great and have brought me peace of mind. We had appliances, electrical, and plumbing. Recently, they put a new program in for all your tech equipment, TV, and computers. I went ahead and did that. I didn't have to carry other stupid warranties under stuff so that was great.

    American Home Shield's claim process is a good one. We start out by making a phone call and then it progressed to the thing online. It runs well. They usually have a technician contact you within 24 hours. I used the service for a big AC unit down in the lower level, which is a storeroom. I saw water on the floor and instead of me getting a screwdriver and taking stuff apart, I made the phone call to American Home Shield. They told me everything to do. A guy came out and he was wonderful. He found that it was something minor and he told me all about it. the unit is three years old and it collected some stuff in the pipe. That caused an overflow leak. It was nothing serious. He went in and showed me what he did. He showed me what to do in case it happens again next time. That was great.

    There are a couple of repairs we had. Most of the time, it's repeat companies. If they're booked, American Home Shield picks up another company. You might not get a really strong one coming out and they might forget a tool or show up in a really small compact car instead of a van with tools in it. But most of the time, it's really good. They really take care of you.

We had a plumbing thing where the person they sent out told us something and we found out it wasn't accurate, and we had to get it fixed ourselves. That was annoying.     I didn't pursue with the repairs because Air Dynasty, the contractor, wanted to charge $1,000 for Freon. The PCV valve is defective and that line is not reading any Freon to push through there. So, it seems like it doesn't have any but it does. And I didn't want to put my credit card on there for $1,000 for the Freon. I let American Home Shield know and the rep just said it was $1,000 for the Freon and they’re only paying $10 for Freon per pound. The customer service is it is what it is and they can't do anything on their end. I had other issues that never got resolved and I just had to pay out of pocket. It stinks. I had to have repairs done that the people that they called out to fix caused more damage to other repairs. And they said it wasn’t covered. I said I didn't break it and the contractor did. I'm up for renewal this month but I'm skeptical to upgrade it because I gotta do my research on what's included.

    American Home Shield referred Royal Air to us and they replaced our AC unit, which I'm having an issue with currently, and I'm having them fix it. They are currently threatening me that if I don't renew my maintenance plan, they won't fix my unit that they installed. It has a 10-year parts and labor warranty and I'm only four years in. So, Royal Air is another one that was provided and recommended by American Home Shield, that I will never, ever do business with. At the moment, I will be hiring an attorney. I was looking over my quotes and my contract and Air Dynasty, and the air service that came out to give me a full report have pointed out that they are in code violation and a lot of things in my attic for my coils. So that's another one that I would never recommend anybody to do business with.

    It seems like the people that AHS sends can't fix things. It takes forever. For instance, our oven hasn't worked for six months. They've replaced the part three times already and it still doesn't work.     I had an issue with my cooling system. It was running, but it wasn't cooling in my upstairs unit. I found that it was pretty easy to make an appointment and get somebody out there. AHS was responsive and I got a call right away from the contractor. The tech came out the next day and I was very happy with that. He diagnosed the problem and said that it was a capacitor and the cooling fan motor so he ordered the part. He came out a couple of days later, but then the new part was defective out of the box, so he had to get another one. But he was really cool and responsive. I also appreciate that he would let me know when he was going to show up, so it wasn't like waiting for the cable guy somewhere between 8:00 to 4:00.

    Initially, the dishwasher wouldn't drain all the way and, subsequently, it wouldn't dry the dishes all the way. The techs changed the discharge pump and blew out all the lines. Now, it seems to be working just fine. Other than that, we've had to use AHS several times in the last year. I had a 32-year old JennAir cooktop that wasn't working right and a companion 32-year old JennAir wall oven which were both replaced, one with a new Frigidaire convection oven, and the stove top has been replaced with a glass one. They're both doing fine and the kitchen looks upscale now compared to how it was before. I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

They have to have that sort of license to go into high rises or condos. American Home Shield doesn't have it sorted that way, so it wastes everybody's time. It happens quite a bit.     I initially got the Home Shield because of our air conditioning unit. I've had people come out and fix it but it still doesn't cool down in certain areas. We get enough to where it's comfortable but I was always hoping that when technicians come out, they would say, "Okay. We can replace this unit. It's not working." But they fixed it and every time it was fixed, it was to a degree that it was just tolerable. It's working but it's uncomfortable. Our units are old and I wanna know what our benefits are to have them switched out and what we could have covered with that. I actually stopped having technicians come out because the unit is working and some cool air is coming out.

    On the whole, I've been very content with all other appliances, with the exception of I wanted a better result for my air conditioning unit. With this home warranty, I don't know if I make out financially in the positive at all due to the monthly premiums. But when there is an issue, I know exactly what I'm gonna pay. I had a situation with my refrigerator where the ice maker wasn't working in the freezer. Service people came in and figured out what was wrong. They then had to come back after ordering a compressor. Things worked out great.

    The first plumber that came out here did an awful job. It was so bad that I almost canceled the service. He looked at the toilet from afar and didn't touch it. He didn't get down on his knees and he just told me he knew what was wrong with it by what I described to him. He had his plumbing company call me back and tell me that my claim was not covered because of misuse or abuse. But it was a brand new toilet so that wasn't the case. He wanted to charge me $600 for his plumbing company to come and fix the problem.

    I explained to American Home Shield what had happened and they sent a second plumber out here. This one fixed the problem in five minutes with his bare hands. I explained to American Home Shield to never send the first plumber out here ever again. I will only use the second one. I talked to my friend who suggested using this home warranty and he said he'd had the same experience with that same bad plumber.

    I did another claim for my microwave when it did something funny and stopped working. After assessing the problem, Whirlpool people came out today and just put in a new microwave. That was a good experience. My only thing with American Home Home Shield is the 125 fee every time someone comes out. That made me pause and question whether or not I really wanted to continue on with the service. I have tried on my own to find repair guys for various things and the fee is fair. But if it was a little bit lower, it wouldn't make me even hesitate.

    I had some plumbing where the pipes were knocking. It was something under the water heater that needed to be replaced. Techs came and everything was great. The pipes no longer knock so whatever they did worked. When you have a home warranty, you generally pay the set amount for a technician to come out and they fix the issue. It appears that there are no other costs associated if it's just a repair. If something needs to be replaced, maybe there'll be a cost. In my case, I didn't have to pay anything. I had called out a plumber the day before and they were going to charge me over $3,000 for the things, but they were going to replace something. When the Home Shield technicians came out, all I had to pay was my service fee.

    Sometimes, we have operators that we don't understand or they don't understand us when we call for a service call. It's a language barrier. I know we can do the claim online, but I prefer to talk to people. But most of the contractors were great. Air Rescue Mechanical came out here in August, and they told us that our AC was low on Freon. They filled up Freon, and the technician left the lid open. So one and a half months later, we were low again, and American Home Shield sent another company. The technician was really nice. As soon as he opened the unit outside, he said, "Wait, the lids were left off." So more than half the Freon had escaped again. American Home Shield said they would send an email to Air Rescue Mechanical but I never heard back. I tried to leave messages for Air Rescue Mechanical and they wouldn't answer.

    My microwave was making a strange sound and my dishwasher was not cleaning the dishes and drying them. I reached out to American Home Shield through the internet and the tech from Runyon Appliance came out. He knew what the problem was right away but he had to order parts. Then, when the second person came with the parts, it turned out that we didn't actually need the parts. A leaf had fallen through the system from a roof and was stuck in the fan when it was making a weird noise and by the time the tech came back, the leaf had fallen all the way through. So, he opened everything up and got the leaf out and made sure the fan was still working okay. The microwave needed to be reset to run the heat part of the cycle and it was something he could just do on the control panel. The first technician didn't try anything with it. He just ran it a little bit and said that the heat wasn't working and they needed to order parts.

    My experience with American Home Shield has been good for the most part and I've been generally pleased. In fact, I've recommended them to several people. Recently, they connected me with a vendor who postponed my appointment to fix my dryer. He rescheduled it for the third time so I called American Home Shield and told them that was not satisfactory. I was getting ticked off about the company. I'm sure the company was probably good and that was why they had so many customers. But a dryer’s pretty important.

    I was really particularly disappointed because earlier the first day when that appointment was made, recommended this home warranty to a person I met in a nearby community. She was really excited because they had moved into an older house and they were looking for some of the benefits that that kind of service would provide. If we can't get this dryer repair moving, as it was coming up for weeks, I'm gonna be really sorry I recommended the home warranty. I was appropriate but I was fairly emphatic that three postponements. American Home Shield found somebody else for me that came out in a more timely manner. That was good. The tech did great with what he was able to do but he didn't have the equipment to finish the job. They need to find somebody else to clean out the dryer vents.

    My husband was a very handy man who knew a lot about different things but he passed away. We live in a rather small town and having somebody I could call like American Home Shield and getting someone here without doing a lot of shopping around for services worked out nicely. One thing, however, is the account was originally in my husband's and my name. I explained to American Home Shield that I wanted to have his name removed from the account. It's removed from the account on their records in some places but not all because when I hear something from the subcontractors who come out, it’s, “Hi, Lowel.” That's my late husband's name.

    It's not devastating to me but I don't need that. Lowel’s not here and it should be, “Hi, Cindy,” or, “Hi, Ms. Turner.” Eventually, they'll get it straight. It's just disconcerting and annoying because if that kind of stuff’s great, you wonder what else they might be screwing up. Another thing is I get a hold of a customer service representative occasionally that is very difficult to understand. That aside, when I ask them to slow down or repeat themselves, everybody's been very helpful.

    The vendors/contractors that American Home Shield has sent out have been very good, professional, timely, and courteous. I've been very pleased when they answered my questions and I typically have a lot just because I'm a little talkative. Over the last five years that I've lived here, I have had the refrigerator work done, the dishwasher replaced and the microwave and the air conditioner replaced. With the replacement appliances, I had to pay part of that cost. With the supply chain issues and the general state of items being hard to get, American home Shield provided me with good resources and fairly discounted opportunities. American Home Shield had also done toilets and garbage disposals. All in all, I will continue to recommend this home warranty.

    I've been pretty upset since I started my service. When I moved my service from Virginia to California, I was told that I would be given $125 credit that would be used for my billing cycles. Since June 2nd, I've called several times because I've been billed every month. Two weeks ago, I was finally able to get a hold of a supervisor and they assured me that for November and December, I would not be billed because that $125 credit would be used. My biggest complaint with American Home Shield is that every time I talked to somebody, they reassured me that issue would be taken care of but the next month happens and I still get charged. But as far as calling and getting services out here, it has been okay.

    As far as service, my only issue is that if I'm in trouble on the weekend, I'm out of luck because I have to wait until Monday because very few vendors service on the weekend. I had my AC go out and we need a climate-controlled environment because my wife has medical conditions. But it happened on a weekend and the technician wasn't able to get out for an additional three days so she had to stay with a friend for a couple of days.

    Also, when the AC vendor came, he sprayed the unit down and said, “Hey, if you give me $200, I'll do a deep clean on this.” I asked if that was covered by AHS and he said it was not. I told him to get off my property because he was trying to scam me. When I called American Home Shield to report that, they captured that information and sent out another vendor at no cost to me. I liked the ability to get a second quote. It helped with getting the air conditioner fixed.

But once the contractor got them, that didn’t repair the item so they just replaced it. The service with American Home Shield has been terrific.     American Home Shield's service is wonderful and I would recommend them. I had different technicians for different things and they came out on time. I had a claim where it took me a while to call the tech but after I called him, he came right away and was good. There was also another claim where I had issues trying to get the appliance replacement. That was very confusing. But I ended up working it out and figuring out what to do.

    The deal with the replacement was American Home Shield offered their product so you can get the free ones. But those ones weren't the kind I could get for my house. I only could choose two different models because that's all I could put in for what my system is already set up for. One of them wasn't available. As for the other one, they couldn't find anybody to install it. They said they offered installation but it wasn't an install where you can just take one out and put one in. I ended up going to an appliance store to buy the appliance and paying more for it. American Home Shield reimbursed me for whatever part they said they will reimburse. In the end, I got my new appliance and I got some money back.

    I’m extending my American Home Shield warranty. It's definitely worth it. If something breaks down, people would come out. Right when I moved in, I didn't know how the home warranty works. I hired my own plumber to come out and look at something. He was five times as much as having American Home Shield's plumber come out. I know now that you have to go through them and they would send people out.

    I've had a good process with American Home Shield and some bad. It's mostly some of their contractors. We have one problem with the water cooler that I started a claim for in May before summer started. And they said I needed a new motor. It's a two-speed motor. The low speed worked, but the high speed didn't. The contractor came out, one of the workers for the contractor looked at it and said I needed a new motor. Three weeks later, the contractor came out. He was a grouchy, old dude. I said, “Sometimes there are wasps up there. I think we got them all, but there might be wasps. So, I'll get you some spray in case you get up there and there's a wasp.” He said, “I'm allergic to wasps.” I said, “Well, I have an EpiPen. I'm gonna go get you that wasp spray.” When I came back down to give him the spray, he was driving away.

    He turned around and called American Home Shield. And they said that he told me that my problem was with pests. So, I told them to send another contractor out, which they did. He looked at it and said I needed a new motor. Weeks went by, there was no callback. He said he was having trouble getting the motor ordered. Still, nothing happened.

    I was getting cranky. I called another contractor, and she wanted to know how high up the water cooler was. I said it was on our roof. She asked if it was more than 16 feet off the ground. Our house was split-level. So, it's average to get up on the front, but it's a big drop from the back. There's a porch that goes around from the outside of our bedroom, and it's an easy thing to get on the roof from there, which is right by the water cooler. I told them that. She took forever, then declined to do the service.

    I called AHS and complained. The other level was super nice. Some of their call center is from Trinidad. And most of the people that I talked to from there were so delightful. That eased my anxiety. Someone is supposed to come today. There was a leak from the water cooler. I can see a bubble in our ceiling. And there was water dripping into the tub. So, now I have damage from that not being fixed.

    AHS has been good for me at our second house. The air conditioner was broken. That was the outside unit. They ended up replacing that. They also replaced the inside furnace for us at one point. And our dishwasher at this house went out, and they ended up replacing that. So, I’ve had good results. But this one is lousy.

    I did a claim to American Home Shield for my ceiling fans. They were not working properly. I started the claim in the summer. I got a good result in the end, but it was a long process. It took months to resolve my issue. I had some issues with American Home Shield. I had to get the Better Business Bureau involved to move things along because things were stagnant. They only had one technician that they offered me, and the technician was not responding to me. I kept following up with American Home Shield for a response. At the end of the day, it worked out. They were able to make the repairs. I'm happy at the end of the day.

    The microwave display wasn't functioning correctly. It was going in and out. Also, the turntable stopped working properly. It was going at a slow pace. A-1 Appliance came out and they ordered two items. They got the turntable motor and the display item. They said it was the power source of the unit and at first, they tried to fix the one that I had. They said they were going to try and solder it and it didn't work. They went out and ordered another piece. It was another two weeks before it was received and they came back. The item that they received didn't work. They ordered another one that was all the way from the East Coast and they came back and fixed it. It worked for a while but this past December, the lights went out again. I had to pay again and American Home Shield assigned the same contractor.

    A-1 Appliance did a video for the initial consultation. They said they were going to set up a video appointment and I can take videos. I complied and they looked at it and they saw the display. They ordered two parts. Two weeks later, the guy came out and he wanted to leave because it was above the oven. He said he couldn't do it by himself and he would come back another time with two people. I offered to help and we took it out but he discovered that the two parts that they ordered weren't what was needed. He said they would order other parts.

    Another two weeks went by and I got a phone call. The rep said she was calling to schedule an appointment for them to pick up my microwave. They were going to bring it back to their shop and make sure that they properly diagnose it and order the right parts. My fault in this conversation was I had the temerity to simply ask why. I rubbed her the wrong way and she said it was what American Shield asked them to do. I asked what went wrong besides the fact that they didn't even come out with the two parts that they ordered and she said it was either I want the appointment or not. I asked for a supervisor or someone to talk to and she said nobody was available. I told her I'm not gonna schedule an appointment yet and that I'm gonna call American Shield. She said the people they talk to is not the people that I talk to. She was snotty about it and she wasn't gonna entertain any other of my questions and she hung up on me.

    I called American Home Shield and their frontline people seem to be limited in their information and they never pass you on to anybody else. They have their escalation department but I can't call their escalation department directly. When I called and I told them my conversation, the rep said all they know is that there was a scheduled appointment. They had no information that the contractor had made the first visit and she had no record of them calling American Home Shield that they were going to pick up my appliance. She put in a request for the escalation department to call me.

    In the meantime, I called back A-1 Appliance and I got this other heifer. I said to her that everything that I discussed with the other rep that American Home Shield has no record of. I listed the items and there was no record of ordering and no record of them coming out. They said those were not the people they talk to. I'm trying to understand who talks to who because I'm getting conflicting information. I still didn't get an answer from that previous woman as to what went south that they needed to pick this thing up. She said it is what needs to be done and they're either going to pick up the item or not.

    I told her I don't think her attitude is very good either. Granted that I didn't talk to the backroom people that they talk to but even the system doesn't show any of the communications that I was told that they did. She said they're not going to help me anymore and they're canceling the order. She said I can call American Home Shield and have them get somebody else. I said okay and she hung up the phone on me.

    I ended up getting a call from this escalation person at American Home Shield and I gave the whole story on this. I asked about the communications that supposedly took place with this whole order and she saw nothing on there about the first and second orders. She saw nothing about them being told to pick up the appliance. The cherry on top was the woman lied and she didn't even send the notification that they weren't gonna help me anymore to American Home Shield. While I was on hold, the lady from American Home Shield said she wanted to call them to go over the issues and so forth. I told them to not ever use that contractor again, that I want someone else to come out here, and that I'm not paying another $100 deductible.

    She said she would get me another company to come out and I requested somebody local. She listed two places and there was Le Bon. The guy they called scheduled an appointment. They came out and they were on time. They pulled out the unit, opened it up, and saw that a possible part was needed but they weren't certain because they needed to fire it up. They talked to somebody back at the shop. They said they would like to take the unit back to their shop. I told them it was not a problem. The unit was there for several days and they called that they know what was wrong but they can't order the parts anymore. They're not available. They said they would let American Home Shield know and they would get a replacement but I have to handle that with them.

    I got an email from American Home Shield that I can go shopping and they have the updated version of our unit. We wouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket. We were looking and there was a unit that had some more bells and whistles on it. It's gonna cost me like $1,100 but I'm gonna order that and then we'll be done with it. We finally got to the end with the resolution but the way we got there wasn't satisfactory.

    I also had a claim for the garage door opener. The spring broke. I looked at my contract and it says garage door opener but the door and rails were excluded and I think the rails were excluded and it didn't say anything about the springs. I initiated the service request and paid the deductible. What I don't understand about American Home Shield is they have the propensity to select people that are not in my area, which I think is a very bad policy. They chose to have this company from Long Beach come to my house. That is 87 miles away from my house. The first available appointment was almost two weeks away from the date they called me. I probably should have asked if we could find somebody closer but I tried to roll with the punches.

    About a week before they came out, I called to talk to somebody to make sure that when they come out here, they have the proper part. Nobody ever called me. I called the day before and I spoke to this young lady. I told her I tried to do a pre-emptive call to make sure that they don't waste their time and they don't come out here unprepared. But there was no technician or manager, just the receptionist.

    The morning of the appointment, I called them early and told them I want to make sure. They're coming 87 miles and it took me almost two weeks to get the first appointment. It's not like they're going to come out any day that would work for me. The rep confirmed that they had that part she mentioned and the guy will be out there. But when the guy came out, he said the spring was not covered. He said I can call American Home Shield if I want to talk to them about it. But on the receipt of the estimate, he wrote that it looked like the customer tried opening the door with the spring broken. He's saying I did something. I asked the cost to fix it if it's not covered and he said it's $800 for the spring. He said it's $500 for the springs and $70 for the carriage. He said things are more expensive in Long Beach.

    I asked him to call his supervisor or something so he went outside and made the call in his car. While he was there, I called American Home Shield and they explained to me why it wasn't covered. But while I was on the phone with them, I was waiting for this guy to come back in and he just took off. I called thir company and I got the top dog of that company. I explained to him what happened and I said the guy they sent out here was a crook. This guy fell all over themselves trying to make me happy for my bad experience. He apologized and said he wants to make it right. He gave me a good price on it and I had the quote for 300-something dollars. I said to not send that other guy because he's not getting past my curve if they do. He sent another guy out and they fixed it but once again, it was a lot to get stuff done.

    I had another issue when my water heater went out and that was easy-peasy. I had to get a new one and I had to pay up a little bit for it but that was that. Then, I had a Freon leak on my AC unit and they came out and fixed it. But I had to pay almost $500. I was away from the house when the guy came out and my wife told me the charge for the Freon to fix it and that came out of my pocket. It wasn't covered by American Home Shield.

    It would fill my washer halfway. And it would say that it's not detecting the drains, and would go out. It would drain the water and it wouldn't go through any cycles. And the first time the contractor came out, they said that it was the motherboard. They changed it. And we went to run a cycle after I got home. And it wouldn't advance to the next cycle. They came out and said that that's probably what it was. The tech put the piece on, because they ordered two parts. The first time, the motherboard and they ordered the thing that advances the cycle. It wouldn't work. But when American Home Shield sent out the Whirlpool guy, the last guy that came, there was a wire that wasn't hooked back up. It's working okay now. They got it fixed.

    The vents were not putting the air in the proper rooms. The guy that AHS sent out said it was due to lack of insulation in the room but the rooms are getting plenty of airflow. He also said there was nothing they could do about it and thought of every excuse in the world instead of trying to help me with a solution. So, it didn't get fixed and I'm still not happy with the results. But I'm going to get another opinion and if the opinion I get is totally disagreeing, I will be back in touch.

    American Home Shield got people to come out and fix my air conditioner. The first company that came out was trying to charge me to replace the AC but AHS didn't cover everything. I did some research and AHS had a second company come out. They said I didn't have to get a new system but it took the part about three or four weeks to get in. But they fixed the AC and they were good. I would use them again. They are very professional and had a lot of good advice to help me. I would recommend that people get American Home Shield because it helps cover a lot of things and having that peace of mind, knowing that if something goes bad, you don't have to come too much out of pocket.

    When you request a service call supposedly they should send a tech within 24 to 48 hours but it took them 8 days last time I had a request. I had 4 contracts with them, but now I only have 2 contracts which I am going to cancel the other two in November. They always try not to pay the claims. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY.

    We were having an issue with our dishwasher that was not getting power. Home Shield sent Elite Appliance and they fixed the issue. The dishwasher worked one time and the next time we ran it, the door for the compartment that holds the soap did not open. We called Elite Appliance ‘cause they told us to let them know if there were any issues. The same tech came back to check.

    He initially thought that it was not a huge issue and that it was one thing that was needed to fix it. As he tried that, it didn't work and he ended up opening a different part of the dishwasher door itself to work on the issue. I told him, “Sorry for the inconvenience.” And he said, “No. It was my mistake, so I need to fix it.” He fixed it and it was working while he was here that day. A couple of days later, it wasn't working again.

    We called them again and got no response. I also texted a couple of other times and there was no response as well. At one point, I spoke with someone who said they would give the tech the message and he would contact us with a time to come back. But we have never received any response and they never came. We're pretty disappointed. The original issue was repaired, but now we have this door that won't open.

    The starter on the AC had gone out on it. The fan was on, but the coolant wasn't on, and there was some switch that needed to be fixed. When the techs called to set up appointment, I told them specifically what was wrong and they projected out what might be an issue. So, they only had to make one visit. Also, the first time I called, I had to leave my name and number, then they called me right back. And whoever called me to set up the appointment was super professional. Other than that, I have to pay $100 every time I call AHS for service and I always wonder how much did that service really cost. Also, when they tell me who's coming out, I immediately go online to see if the company is reputable and I have called people that have no webpage. So, I had no way to look at them, to review them, or to find out anything about them, I was at their mercy that they were going to come out and fix my problem.

    I called about my compressor as it had frozen up and wasn't blowing. I shut it off. A young guy from MJS Mechanical Services came out and checked it out. He turned it on and it was working. He said it could be a couple of things like the Freon being low. He checked that. He left and the unit froze up again. This was a Friday morning he came. I called trying to get them to come back out but they didn't answer the phone. On Saturday, I called American Home Shield and it took them a long time trying to contact MJS. Nobody ever called me back from MJS or American Home Shield.

    That Sunday, I spoke with several representatives from American Home Shield and they kept giving me the runaround. The first two told me, "We're gonna get in contact with them. We'll call you back in an hour." Nobody called me. I called another guy and he told me he got in contact with MJS and they were gonna call me in an hour. They never called. I called back and spoke to a third representative and she told me they just giving me the runaround. They didn't do anything.

    When I was talking to her, a supervisor called in. I got off the phone with her and the supervisor confirmed the appointment that I had and told me that MJS was gonna come out Monday. For any problem, I was to give them a call. That Monday, the technicians didn't show up and the supervisor told me she was gonna call me back. Another guy came out on Monday and he went to the attic. He said the blower was out. I had a small child and the house was hot. They say they couldn't come back after the same day. The supervisor told me she gonna try to call them and she'll call me back by 3 o'clock. She never called me back until the next day. I was very upset. We had to go to a hotel as it was so unbearable. On Wednesday, the tech came back and fixed the blower. That was a terrible experience. American Home Shield could have just gotten me somebody else out here if MJS couldn't do it. They didn't offer any assistance.

    I did a couple of claims through American Home Shield over the years. One time, I had a big issue that I was very unhappy with. It was really hard to get hold of a human being. You hold on the phone for easily two hours to really talk to somebody. They are horribly short on staff in answering the phones. That is just such a frustration. But once I get hold of a person, they are very helpful and friendly. Sometimes you can do things online and you can certainly do a lot there and you don't have to talk to somebody. But if you want to, it's almost impossible and that really drove me nuts that I almost wanted to cancel my policy. But the issue had been resolved. Most of the other times are pretty good too. I call American Home Shield or I put it in a claim. They text and they want feedback. I'm pretty okay with that.

    I would advise others to get American Home Shield because it is a little bit of a safety net to have your appliances covered. It's still going to cost you money to do the repair. But it's not going to break your bank. They are either going to help you to fix it or they are going to replace it. Most of the time, they really go with fixing it, which is fine. It's not the type of thing where you're going to really get by and see if you can just quickly replace all your appliances and get new ones because it doesn't work like that. Having American Home Shield is pretty much the same as having a life policy or any insurance policy. You want to have peace of mind if something happens. It's not gonna break your bank and you're gonna be okay with that.

    I sent in a claim for the air conditioning. The timing was pretty good as far as the availability of the AC company. It went pretty smooth. The technician was great. He came out early and it didn't take him long to figure out what the problem was. He got right at it. It was in the heat of summer the air conditioner took a little while to cool off. I did call and express concern that it was taking a little longer. But everything was fine and they responded pretty quick.

    I have been very pleased with everything that American Home Shield has done for me. My husband could fix almost anything. Now, he was quite elderly by the time he passed away, but he knew who to call, what to do, and whether what they were saying was true. I didn't know any of that crap. So, I got American Home Shield because they had treated my sister who was single and she had had her house put under their care with a property manager twice. She was very pleased with their service. I called them and I got them because they know who to call.

    I had a claim on my AC unit and the tech changed a capacitor and cleaned out my air conditioner. I asked him to show me exactly what he did to clean out the air conditioner. He showed me. So, next time, I'll be able to keep it clean. He said that was what caused the capacitor to fail. So, I know a little bit more about it than I did before he came, and my air conditioner is working fine. He came very quickly and it didn't take him very long to do the repair.

    I talk about AHS all the time. I love them. They've been very nice to me. They've been very effective. As far as I'm concerned, they're very cost-effective for my budget. I've told everybody that I deal with that I think they all need them because most of them are as old as I am. AHS helps me a whole lot. When something goes wrong, I have somebody to call. Before that, I really did not.

    I've had a policy with American Home Shield for three years, and up until this point, I was happy with them. Now, they are driving me crazy because I just had a service request come out for my pool pump that went out. The pump was making a lot of noise, and the water in my pool was not circulating, which was causing algae to build up in my pool. When I spoke with the repair people from Upland Pool, they were fine, but like most people, because that is their job, they wouldn't listen to what I gotta say when I told them the pump needed to be replaced. It’s old and worn.

    The repair people are doing makeshift band-aid fixes, and therefore, they have had to come out three times, and it's still not working correctly. As a matter of fact, the technician was just out yesterday, and he told me, “Oh, I don't see a problem.” I said, “Did you look at the pool?” “No, I didn't.” “Did you see how the algae is going there?” “No, I didn't look at it.” “Then I'm telling you, it’s not pumping the water.” There are these pop-up things in my pool that are supposed to help circulate the water to keep algae from building up, and it’s not doing that.

    American Home Shield keeps taking the technicians' word, and I'm telling them, “My pool is turning green. The water is not circulating.” So, we’re still working on that. However, I am so tired of Upland Pool. I got a text message from them this morning. “Good morning. I'll forward this to my technician. He informed me that this is a maintenance chemical issue. The pump is working fine with no failures to the pump. He recommends to have this addressed by your pool maintenance person.” My pool person came out today and told me the impeller, which is inside the pump, is a plastic device. That is either cracked or broken and is not allowing the pump to push up the things to circulate the water. I have not relayed this information to Upland as of yet though.

    Moultrie's Electrical came out and they checked and fixed the light. They fixed the socket. The tech seemed to be pleasant and nice. They had to come back bacause my refrigerator stopped working. The socket was dead. The switch was dead. The light overhead stopped working. It works now. The guy who came back said that nothing was wrong, and he looked in there. I said, “Well, my refrigerator is not working.” So, when he went in there, he saw that the wire was burnt and he replaced that. As far as American Home Shield, they seemed to be knowledgeable. Also, they send somebody out and they’ll fix things.
