My roof was leaking. When the techs came out, they didn’t cover the part that needed to be fixed. They were very polite. But they can only do what they’re allowed to do. I just wish that when I called AHS to file a claim, I was informed of everything and all the procedures. But I was never informed.

I have been very pleased with everything that American Home Shield has done for me. My husband could fix almost anything. Now, he was quite elderly by the time he passed away, but he knew who to call, what to do, and whether what they were saying was true. I didn't know any of that crap. So, I got American Home Shield because they had treated my sister who was single and she had had her house put under their care with a property manager twice. She was very pleased with their service. I called them and I got them because they know who to call.
I had a claim on my AC unit and the tech changed a capacitor and cleaned out my air conditioner. I asked him to show me exactly what he did to clean out the air conditioner. He showed me. So, next time, I'll be able to keep it clean. He said that was what caused the capacitor to fail. So, I know a little bit more about it than I did before he came, and my air conditioner is working fine. He came very quickly and it didn't take him very long to do the repair.
I talk about AHS all the time. I love them. They've been very nice to me. They've been very effective. As far as I'm concerned, they're very cost-effective for my budget. I've told everybody that I deal with that I think they all need them because most of them are as old as I am. AHS helps me a whole lot. When something goes wrong, I have somebody to call. Before that, I really did not.

American Home Shield’s service is getting better. On my very first call, they were a little slow on the giddy-up. But when I threatened to just not renew, they went into action. We're doing okay now but I wasn't happy for a while. H&K, the contractor who came out for my plumbing issue, was great. It turned out that my issue was so minuscule. If I had been told what to do when the sink was installed, I would not have needed anyone. All they had to do was change some batteries. I paid $100 and the tech gave me some extra batteries because it was such a silly thing that he had to come out to do. He was in and out of here in 15 minutes because he knew what he was doing. You've got to give him credit for having that knowledge. AHS is comparable but I’m gonna stay with them because they got the job done. Since then, I've had a couple of other things going on and they were very helpful. So, I’m good.

American Home Shield is a blessing and I'm grateful for their service. Customer service talked to me on the phone and I explained to them what was going on. They immediately sent information to the technician. Whatever company they dispatched it to, they came right on out and took out care of business. They made sure that everything was done right and working. They showed me what was going on and why it was going on like this.
I called customer service about my air conditioner and explained to them what was going on. A man came out and he had exactly what he needed because I gave a description of what the air conditioner was doing. It was the same thing with my refrigerator where the ice not coming out. I explained that to customer service and a technician came out and did what he had to do. He knew specifically what need to be done. The same thing happened with my dishwasher. They brought the correct equipment to go ahead and do what needed to be done. I didn't have to wait until they come back.

We were having an issue with our dishwasher that was not getting power. Home Shield sent Elite Appliance and they fixed the issue. The dishwasher worked one time and the next time we ran it, the door for the compartment that holds the soap did not open. We called Elite Appliance ‘cause they told us to let them know if there were any issues. The same tech came back to check.
He initially thought that it was not a huge issue and that it was one thing that was needed to fix it. As he tried that, it didn't work and he ended up opening a different part of the dishwasher door itself to work on the issue. I told him, “Sorry for the inconvenience.” And he said, “No. It was my mistake, so I need to fix it.” He fixed it and it was working while he was here that day. A couple of days later, it wasn't working again.
We called them again and got no response. I also texted a couple of other times and there was no response as well. At one point, I spoke with someone who said they would give the tech the message and he would contact us with a time to come back. But we have never received any response and they never came. We're pretty disappointed. The original issue was repaired, but now we have this door that won't open.
Are you still in need of assistance?

We had a leak in the ceiling that was coming from the shower. I called on a Friday, but the contractor couldn't come out till Monday. I was a little frustrated because I wanted somebody out that day. But my husband was so impressed with the contractor that came out that he got their card for further future needs. On the claim before that one, it was the same issue. The ceiling was leaking. The contractor American Home Shield sent said it was because it wasn't caulked correctly and they caulked it. But the people that came out last time said that wasn't even the right problem. That was a little disappointing. Also, when I called, American Home Shield connected me to people overseas. I couldn't understand a word they were saying. I was disappointed that American Home Shield didn't even have employees in America.

I called about my compressor as it had frozen up and wasn't blowing. I shut it off. A young guy from MJS Mechanical Services came out and checked it out. He turned it on and it was working. He said it could be a couple of things like the Freon being low. He checked that. He left and the unit froze up again. This was a Friday morning he came. I called trying to get them to come back out but they didn't answer the phone. On Saturday, I called American Home Shield and it took them a long time trying to contact MJS. Nobody ever called me back from MJS or American Home Shield.
That Sunday, I spoke with several representatives from American Home Shield and they kept giving me the runaround. The first two told me, "We're gonna get in contact with them. We'll call you back in an hour." Nobody called me. I called another guy and he told me he got in contact with MJS and they were gonna call me in an hour. They never called. I called back and spoke to a third representative and she told me they just giving me the runaround. They didn't do anything.
When I was talking to her, a supervisor called in. I got off the phone with her and the supervisor confirmed the appointment that I had and told me that MJS was gonna come out Monday. For any problem, I was to give them a call. That Monday, the technicians didn't show up and the supervisor told me she was gonna call me back. Another guy came out on Monday and he went to the attic. He said the blower was out. I had a small child and the house was hot. They say they couldn't come back after the same day. The supervisor told me she gonna try to call them and she'll call me back by 3 o'clock. She never called me back until the next day. I was very upset. We had to go to a hotel as it was so unbearable. On Wednesday, the tech came back and fixed the blower. That was a terrible experience. American Home Shield could have just gotten me somebody else out here if MJS couldn't do it. They didn't offer any assistance.

I did a couple of claims through American Home Shield over the years. One time, I had a big issue that I was very unhappy with. It was really hard to get hold of a human being. You hold on the phone for easily two hours to really talk to somebody. They are horribly short on staff in answering the phones. That is just such a frustration. But once I get hold of a person, they are very helpful and friendly. Sometimes you can do things online and you can certainly do a lot there and you don't have to talk to somebody. But if you want to, it's almost impossible and that really drove me nuts that I almost wanted to cancel my policy. But the issue had been resolved. Most of the other times are pretty good too. I call American Home Shield or I put it in a claim. They text and they want feedback. I'm pretty okay with that.
I would advise others to get American Home Shield because it is a little bit of a safety net to have your appliances covered. It's still going to cost you money to do the repair. But it's not going to break your bank. They are either going to help you to fix it or they are going to replace it. Most of the time, they really go with fixing it, which is fine. It's not the type of thing where you're going to really get by and see if you can just quickly replace all your appliances and get new ones because it doesn't work like that. Having American Home Shield is pretty much the same as having a life policy or any insurance policy. You want to have peace of mind if something happens. It's not gonna break your bank and you're gonna be okay with that.

I have a dishwasher that hasn't worked. The contractor finally figured out what the problem was. But they didn't have the right part. So, I have to get a replacement. I like the vendors that American Home Shield send. They only send Sears, which are the only people where I live that come out. One time they sent someone else. They are able to get repair people out sooner than when I had Sears. It sometimes took three weeks for a repair person to come out to even look at it. So, they're faster sending the people out. However, they cost more. I have to pay $100 every time someone comes out. And they raise it every year. It goes up by a lot of money. It was expensive to begin with. I complained about it on the phone, and they said they would try to give me some kind of discount. But they never did. So, I have to call and complain again. I'm shopping for another home warranty service.

I like American Home Shield because they're fair. When I call and I have a problem, they get workers out here right away. They haven't given me a problem as far as if something's broken and if it needs to be fixed. If it’s their part to pay so much for something, they pay and they don't give me a hard time. I left American Home Shield for a little bit and I went with a different company. But I was very unsatisfied so I went back to American Home Shield and I plan on staying with them.
When my husband and I bought the house, we had a problem with the toilet. Repair people found what was going on underneath the toilet and there were tree roots. They had to take the whole toilet off. The only thing is American Home Shield didn’t cover any of that and I had to pay for the $600 cost. I had another issue with the toilet again and we ended up buying a new toilet. I had an issue with a bathroom sink then now the kitchen sink and the garbage disposal.
BNK was one contractor we had and I liked them. There were two young guys. One young guy was very knowledgeable. He adjusted the toilet for me so that when we flush it, it would go down in order to have a stronger pull on it. I really enjoyed BNK. I had them out here twice and I would have them out here again in a heartbeat because they were very nice.
I also had the technicians out here twice already for my air conditioner which is 25 years old. They fixed that for me. It was very aggravating. I also had to put in the new furnace the month after we moved in here and American Home Shield helped pay for that, which was wonderful. I love American Home Shield and I would never switch again. I tell all my friends about them.

American Home Shield has been repairing my appliances for like 20 years. I just call them up and tell them I need a repair. Then, I pay them $75 for the repair. I get an email saying, "This is the company that's gonna call you. Here's their phone number. If they don't call you in 24 hours, you call them." I can ask them to schedule the time that they'd be here to do the repair.
AHS recently sent Aurora and they called right away. They scheduled the service right away, and they were out within a couple of days and they did the repair. It worked out really quickly and well. Overall, I really enjoy being able to have repairs on an appliance. I'm really happy because they usually repair things pretty quickly. Whatever repair they do on an appliance, the whole appliance has to be good for a whole year, which is really good. We had a dishwasher one time that needed to be repaired. A different part of it broke, and they came out and repaired it. A week later, some other part of it broke. So, they repaired it three times and it didn't cost me anything.

The starter on the AC had gone out on it. The fan was on, but the coolant wasn't on, and there was some switch that needed to be fixed. When the techs called to set up appointment, I told them specifically what was wrong and they projected out what might be an issue. So, they only had to make one visit. Also, the first time I called, I had to leave my name and number, then they called me right back. And whoever called me to set up the appointment was super professional. Other than that, I have to pay $100 every time I call AHS for service and I always wonder how much did that service really cost. Also, when they tell me who's coming out, I immediately go online to see if the company is reputable and I have called people that have no webpage. I've had a policy with American Home Shield for three years, and up until this point, I was happy with them. Now, they are driving me crazy because I just had a service request come out for my pool pump that went out. The pump was making a lot of noise, and the water in my pool was not circulating, which was causing algae to build up in my pool. When I spoke with the repair people from Upland Pool, they were fine, but like most people, because that is their job, they wouldn't listen to what I gotta say when I told them the pump needed to be replaced. It’s old and worn.
The repair people are doing makeshift band-aid fixes, and therefore, they have had to come out three times, and it's still not working correctly. As a matter of fact, the technician was just out yesterday, and he told me, “Oh, I don't see a problem.” I said, “Did you look at the pool?” “No, I didn't.” “Did you see how the algae is going there?” “No, I didn't look at it.” “Then I'm telling you, it’s not pumping the water.” There are these pop-up things in my pool that are supposed to help circulate the water to keep algae from building up, and it’s not doing that.
American Home Shield keeps taking the technicians' word, and I'm telling them, “My pool is turning green. The water is not circulating.” So, we’re still working on that. However, I am so tired of Upland Pool. I got a text message from them this morning. “Good morning. I'll forward this to my technician. He informed me that this is a maintenance chemical issue. The pump is working fine with no failures to the pump. He recommends to have this addressed by your pool maintenance person.” My pool person came out today and told me the impeller, which is inside the pump, is a plastic device. That is either cracked or broken and is not allowing the pump to push up the things to circulate the water. I have not relayed this information to Upland as of yet though.

We had warranties with these guys on two homes for years. Originally they were very reasonable. In the last year they have become a horror. They send out contractors who write a report and use any excuse not to pay for the repair. Case in point: we have a salt water swimming pool in the desert. The 20 year old filter leaked and needed be replaced. They denied the repair because the leakage had caused the cement base to crack and therefore the filter problem was not usual wear and tear. The pool heater leaked and they denied the repair because chemical deposits from the leak on the heater meant the failure was not usual wear and tear. We needed a repair to a patio door. I called and they said it was covered, sent out a lock smith who could not repair it and then after prevaricating for 3 weeks decided they would not cover the repair but would charge me for the service call. In my opinion this is dishonesty.

We had a crazy year last year with American Home Shield but this year has been pretty good. When I call, we pay the $75 and instantly, we get somebody out here, although some of the service providers that are in our area might be knowledgeable but not too much about certain things. We had a plumbing issue and we didn't want to do the packet that the company wanted us to do that was gonna be an additional $1,800 on top of the $500. They said they were gonna do a simple fix and that was it. Also, I wish American Home Shield had additional coverage for people that have septic tanks but other than those, everything else is okay.
Recently, I had the AC worked on by A-US Air Condition of Texas and they were really good. When the tech first came out, he came out and he was just done too quick. He said we had a stoppage int he drainage pipe where the water runs down into and he cleared it out. But what he did wasn't the problem and I had to call back. I recalled the order and they came right back out and fixed the issue. Another person came in and said my coils are dirty. He said they gotta do the coils and that was when another person had to come out, fix it, and then put it back here. Then my downstairs air unit went out and another person came. But it was okay. My experience was great.

I've had American Home Shield for 40 years. They've always been a good company. However, it's changed over the years. They keep adding more add-ons to the cost. It used to be they would replace things and you wouldn't have to worry about all the extras. I had to replace the water heater and it cost me $1,000 for all the fittings even though they provided a water heater.
American Home Shield calls to follow up and ask how things are going. They seem to be interested in trying to get things done. But I turned in a claim in July, and when the company they sent for air conditioning came, nobody was home. I thought I gave them sufficient instructions, but they went to the wrong casita which didn't need anything. They said they needed to order parts for us and it took over a month to get the parts. In the desert in July, it's warm. They finally got the parts and came out. I asked, "Why are you putting them there? It's the other place." They said they didn't know anything about the other casita. I asked, "Can you put these parts in the other one?" They said, "No, the serial numbers have to match." They went ahead and put the parts in that casita.
I sent them over to the other one to take a look and they said all I needed was freon. They added three pounds of freon and charged me $1,100 for that part of the casita that didn't need repair. The next day, it stopped working. They came back and said the compressors were gone and they needed to replace it. I turned back to American Home Shield and told them something else was going wrong. They sent another company, and that company said, "The compressor is not bad. You've got a leak of your freon. It's all gone." I told them I just paid $1,100 to do the freon. The first company mailed me the check back.
I had to wait another three weeks to get the part. The second company, after they got the part in, installed the part. That didn't work. The next day, it was 90 degrees in there again so I called them back and they said they could see the compressor didn't work. I said, "This is where it was a month ago." They said they had to order it. That have been a couple of weeks now but we haven't heard from them. But American Home Shield has called and sent emails to follow up. They called yesterday and said, "If you want to have the HVAC company order the parts you need, that's okay. We'll reimburse you." But I've called three times a day, every day since last Saturday and can't get anybody from the HVAC company on the phone. You can't leave a message 'cause the mailbox is full. It's frustrating.

I was quite pleased with American Home Shield. I had three or so incidences where I needed to request the service and the service came really quickly. One time, I didn't like the solution so they gave me a cash allowance instead of taking the solution and that worked out okay. On two other times, the guys were here the next day and they knew what they were doing. We were completely satisfied. I had worked with some of these warranty companies in the past and they typically have a reputation where they tell you what great service they'll provide then they find some way of not doing it. I didn't experience that with American Home Shield. Whatever the guy found that needed to be done, they approved it.

For the most part, whenever you call American Home Shield, there are a lot of people whose dialects that you can’t understand, and a lot of time waiting on the phone for calls to go through. I don't at all appreciate that. That is something that’s more than a nuisance and I’m not happy about that. Sometimes I had to submit claims through the internet because it's very hard to contact people. American Home Shield has overseas people. They take too long to answer the phone. Also, sometimes my claims are covered, sometimes not. And when you call in for service, you get frustrated. They have to get more contract around here. Because when I used them the last time, they sent somebody from DC. Which meant the guy coming, and he did a good job. But when we needed those kinds of service, like the water or refrigerator, we did not need to wait for three days. And sometimes, customers have to call the contractor to say, “Oh, I'll get this contractor's number.” “Oh, yeah, we have to do as soon we get a space,” or “We're gonna book for you.” With those kinds of things, they had to do them right away. And the area where I live, they have a lot of plumbing companies. Everything is around.
I have a premium service. But I never got that kind of service. I pay almost $90 per month. And if I have a plumbing outside of my house, they don't cover it. The water faucet needs to be changed because it's broken. Why do I have to pay those things from my own package? Sometimes, it's better to wait until something is broken and call another company. Another company comes in right away. It's a bit of money, but you don't have to wait for those kind of service. American Home Shield did good in the last two requests I did. They took no later than two hours to respond. Also, the contractor is very good and respectful.

Climatech came out and the tech went up in my crawlspace. He came back down and said, “Oh, it's a really simple fix.” He said it was just four or five feet of ductwork and it was going to be A-okay. Then I got a report back from American Home Shield saying, “The technician says you misused it, that you stepped on the ductwork and damaged it.” But that was not even possible. It's in the crawlspace, where you can't even stand up. It's elevated above the floor of the crawlspace by at least 12 to 24 inches. So I called Climatech and asked them to send me a picture. They said, ”Oh, uh. Oh, uh.” I told them that they're not gonna send them any more business. But they said, “Yeah, you gotta get permission for the pictures.”
I called back American Home Shield and they said that they don't have to give me pictures and that it was not covered. It was very uncool because they have all these vendors in between a rock and a hard place. They can say whatever they want on their report and claim the person didn't say that when in fact, that's what the guy said. But the claim that I had for the dishwasher was genius. A circuit board that was having a problem on the dryer. All the electric parts worked, but the drum wasn't spinning around. So, we called American Home Shield and they put us in contact with one company but they never bothered calling. I called back American Home Shield and they put me in touch with another company. Their tech came out once and at first, he thought it was the fuse and he replaced the fuse. But it wasn't that. Then he said it was the circuit board that needed to be replaced. He said that he was going to have to put a claim into American Home Shield and they had to approve it. But then, I never heard back from that. I tried repeatedly to call the company back and eventually, it went to a Spanish voicemail.
American Home Shield had to make three attempts to get in touch with this company before they could give it to the other company, and they tried and tried. But at the time, I never heard back from American Shield, so I called them back. They made the attempt to call the contractor and I had to go through this three calls thing again. Meanwhile, it was over a month that I was having to go to my mom's with our clothes and dry our clothes there. But it took forever. So we started doing many washes and just hanging our clothes up in the house to dry.
Finally, the last company came out, which I really liked. The tech was really thorough and he had little booties he put on. He was up there and originally, he said it was the circuit board. He was there for 45 minutes because he said he tried to work his way around it to see if he could get it to work until they could get something. But he couldn't get it to work. So he said he had to put a claim into American Home Shield to get the circuit board. Then he came back within about a week, he put the circuit board in, and the dryer started working again. He also went to my mother's house and helped her out with a problem that she had.
At another time, AHS sent us Murray's Plumbing and they were horrible. They came in with their hats tilted like they tried to be gangsters. The father came with his son and they reeked of cigarette smoke. And when they left, you could still smell the cigarette smoke in the house. They came in to repair a cartridge for my shower since it was leaking all the time and they came out several times. When they came back the first time, they said it was a defective cartridge and they had to have the part shipped from China. But when they put a cartridge in the second time, the shower still leaked. So I had to call back.
To make sure that the shower wasn't leaking, they turned the water pressure down in the house. If that cartridge was leaking and it was a problem with that type of faucet, my philosophy was to put a different type of faucet on it. I called and asked if they could do that but they didn't. Now, the shower still leaks a little bit, but not as bad as it was. But we didn't increase the pressure. So we have no real water pressure like a normal shower would have. I went out and bought a pressure gauge the other day because I wanted to see what the pressure was and I'm going to go and test it.
But I called American Home Shield and told them not to ever send that contractor out. They went to the bathroom in my room, used the toilet, and when I went up, the bathroom stunk. And I could see on the toilet where they had stains on the toilet. I also told American Home Shield about that. I've also had another company come out for my microwave and they fixed it a couple of times. Again, it was a circuit board and finally, American Home Shield just replaced the microwave. This one's been working good now but we had stainless steel microwave and they wouldn't pay for stainless steel. They would just replace it and you have to do an upgrade, which usually cost an extra 200 bucks. But that was what we wanted.
All in all, AHS has been helpful and they always answer your calls. But on two times I called, they didn't call me back which I would have liked for them to call me back. Also, the guy from the last company who came to fix my dryer said that they've been having a situation where American Home Shield was telling customers that they were going to be coming out at such and such a date, and they were not.

I had a leak in my shower from the showerhead. It had a slow drip and the technician tightened the main valve at the handle, which resolved the issue. I haven't had any dripping since. It was a nice, quick and easy repair. I also entered a preseason checkup for the HVAC aside from this claim. I interacted with the vendor by phone since my partner was at home at the time. Everything went well and he was very communicative with both of us. My policy with American Home Shield went active probably a few weeks before I had to call and I plan on keeping them indefinitely. Everything has been smooth sailing so far and I appreciate it.

I've been very happy with AHS for the most part, but there's been some frustration. They usually send professional people. But now, a lot of times, the people that they send out are also trying to sell you something. For the most part, the people come out fairly quickly. Sometimes, though, with the AC unit, it could be a couple of days. I had gotten frustrated, because both my son and I have heart disease, and we can't live in a hot house. So, we ended up having to move and sleep on the first floor until they get the problem fixed.
The last time I had a problem, it also took a bit to get to a live person. I had to go through a lot of machine things saying why I needed to talk to a service rep, and each one would say, "We can't do something about it." I finally was able to get through to a manager. Our recent claim with AHS went really well. The guy was really nice and talked me into doing the service contract for both the heater and the AC unit. He made it so that some other work that he had done was incorporated into that. He was very nice and professional in what he did.

A contractor came out for the AC unit and did what they called a band-aid fix on it because they said that they couldn't do a true fix. Apparently, they don't make this model anymore or they did something about the freon being different. For the amount of money I paid American Home Shield, the band-aid is not good enough for me. It lasted two weeks. My unit needs to be fixed. I would not recommend the contractor that came out. They weren't good about getting back to us. They would say, "I'll call you back tomorrow." Three days would go by but still didn't receive a phone call. I had to constantly call them. Once they finally fixed the outside unit, the thermostat went out. I had to call them back out and replace the thermostat. That took almost a month.
I'm going to be dropping American Home Shield. It's good when something breaks and you're not having to wait a month or two. But when something's broken, they don't want to repair it because of normal wear and tear. I'm not okay with that either. You're gonna have normal wear and tear on everything, so why are you gonna tell me you're gonna warranty it but you don't warranty it for wear and tear? I can't control that.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

A month after we took the insurance, there was a leak at the bottom of our washer. Initially, we thought it was something that came from the pipes, so we just ignored it. I already had a basin on the bottom of the washer, but I found the water was becoming more and more. I requested for service through American Home Shield, and the guy who came in said that there was a hole on the edge of the pipe. He said that was growing day by day, which was why the water was increasing. The guy came in with a part. He ordered it, then it took at least a week to get a new part. When that part came in, it was the wrong one so he had to resend that, then he came another week later.
The guy was good, and he was very professional and courteous. The only thing that I had concerns with was the order they put in for the part and it took a while. There was a miscommunication. He sent the right part, but they sent the wrong part in. There was around two and a half weeks of delay, which I don't wanna blame the guy. At the end of the day, he fixed it. It was just changing that particular piece of rubber pipe, and it was completely done. Since then, we have been using it and we haven't had any issues. Overall, my first experience was good. I hope the rest will be the same.

Our appliances and things in the house are getting to that point where they're starting to go due to age. Hopefully, American Home Shield is saving us a bit of money. Also, their coverage seems to be comprehensive compared to other home warranty companies we've used. So, we're very happy with it. But I was not happy with one of the contractors used. The contractor didn't show up for a couple of different appointments and pushed back appointments by a week. And when I got upset with them over the phone, they were rude to me and decided to not come out at all for the service we had scheduled. They don't know how to handle customers well, especially customers who are upset that their appointment was set back a whole week, when they have been already pushed back on other appointments. They're very unprofessional and not satisfactory. All the other ones that we've dealt with through AHS have been fine.

The main water line that goes into the septic was cracked along the top. The tech from Diamondback Rooter cut out the bad pipe and replaced it. It's been working fine since but I have a question about the tape. There's a piece of tape just before the no-hub connector and I wanna know if there's a nick or something underneath.
Also, I had a claim for the faucet in the house and the contractor said they have to cut the drywall but it wasn't covered. It was gonna cost me $500. I'm sure somewhere deep in the paperwork, it talks about that. But I bought this through my Realtor and it shows all these items but I didn't see when I purchased it that if they have to cut into a wall to replace a pipe, it's not covered. I would have been glad to get an upgrade to be protected against that. I was very unhappy with that part of the Home Shield deal. I went and fixed the faucets for $13 but I didn't get my $85 back even though I didn't use the service because the tech came out. I wouldn't recommend them because of that experience.

We’ve had so many problems with that AC thanks to American Home Shield. We're not real pleased with them but we're very pleased with Ohana, the contractor. They've come out here before because we requested them. Also, calling them on the phone used to be a nightmare. Every time I called them, I end up with people in Taiwan, the Philippines, or Indonesia who can't do anything for me. But it has gotten better. The last couple of times I called, I got an American rep.
AHS has done a good job for us, but their communication and follow-up suck and they make you use people that are not qualified. Our air conditioner broke down three years ago and they sent this company who said that the compressor was gone. They ordered the compressor but the compressor was too small. They put it in and they made us pay $600 for the Freon to go in it. It didn't work for three weeks and it blew out all the Freon again. We couldn't get in touch with the contractor and they wouldn't get their bosses to call us and wouldn't return our calls. They were horrible. Yet, AHS made us use those same people who are incompetent. They replaced the air compressor again but it took months. This was during the summer. It went over a period of almost eight months before we got our air conditioner fixed.
We had a similar situation with a plumber that they sent and the guy wouldn't even come until after eight o'clock at night. One night, he stayed here until two o'clock in the morning. He kept running out to his car and then coming back. AHS has done some good things but when we think back on it, we have a lot of really bad experiences with them.

I call them when there's an and the issue gets resolved. A year ago, I had a problem with the washer as it was leaking. A guy was sent out and he ended up replacing the washer right there. Every time, something's been fixed or replaced.
I just had a claim for my dishwasher and my garbage disposal. My garbage disposal wasn't working and my dishwasher wasn't drying the dishes. American Home Shield sent a plumber out for the garbage disposal and he ended up replacing it and putting a brand-new one in. For the other issue, the technician said that my control board and motor were going up in the dishwasher. American Home Shield gave me a prorate of what my dishwasher was and it was $600. I was able to order another one and a person was then sent out to install it.

It’s about to go bust and I’ve used American Home Shield about eight times to fix the upstairs unit, but they won't render it dead. The mechanics just keep putting duct tape on it. They keep it running every couple of months, so they have to keep coming out. There’ll be a benefit to having a home warranty if AHS replaces the AC at some point. There's also an open ticket I have since February that can't get completed, which is annoying. AHS’ rate keeps going up, which is a little bit of bait-and-switch from the first year.

It's a little bit hard to get them. Sometimes it's hard to understand some of the people. One time they had a chat and I talked to them by chat. That was very helpful. I had the name of the company, the point of contact, the phone number, and the general introduction from the company. The company was very good. The issue was a piece of the dishwasher that releases vapor from the inside of the cleaning chamber. It was having a buildup, which allows more moisture to come outside as opposed to staying inside. So, the tech told us all about it, cleaned it, fixed it, and showed us what to do.

American Home Shield has been under fire lately for some of their business practices. but I haven't had to call them a lot and when I have, I usually get the issue resolved and I haven't had any major problems with them. The things that needed to be replaced were replaced promptly, when they got the parts for it, and even though there was a part issue with the air conditioner I had recently, it wasn't their fault. It was a problem in trying to secure the part and once they secured it, they called us and brought it out. So we haven't had to wait months. There wasn't any bait and switch either. The current service I had has been pretty good. I was thinking of switching to another company until I found out that something on my current contract they didn't have covered under the new company. It's one that could save me a lot of money by having it with American Home Shield. In the past, I was not happy with their service. I had the door to a handle on the microwave come off and the technician they sent said we pulled too hard on that handle on the microwave. Since it was our fault the handle came off, it was not covered.
I had one other thing. I had a stackable washer dryer and the washer was broken. I'm over 50 and my mom was living there and she was over 70. They said we had to get the dryer off of the washer so they could repair the washer. Neither one of us could lift a full size dryer off of a washer. My mom found a company and was able to finagle and move the two together so the tech could access the back and was able to fix the washer. We had to pay for that ourselves.
Right now, I'm in a manufactured home that was built in 1976. Some of the appliances are the original appliances. When the appliances break down, I have someone come out for just my deductible of $100 and they fix them or exchange them. That is definitely worth the cost of having a home warranty. There was a circuit breaker in my bedroom area that kept tripping and the power kept going off. A tech replaced the circuit breaker and that seemed to have solved the problem. Sometimes with home warranty companies, the service companies are not the best companies out there. Sometimes if you don't like the company or you see bad reviews, you can push to have another company or they'll pay you what it would cost them and you just get it done by another company.

American Home Shield is dealing with good contractors. When I first purchased the home warranty, I got that free lock and key thing. The AC thing was the first claim I made and that is now working beautifully. There was also a time they sent someone out for plumbing and that went fine. A part of the showerhead had to be changed.
There was a time my garage broke as I was leaving to go to the airport. I had to get it fixed right away. I called a local garage door repair company right down the street and they came and fixed the garage. I was able to make my flight. I wanted to turn in a claim afterwards with American Home Shield and because I didn't call them to come, they won't honor the charges that I had to spend to fix my garage door. Most times their contractors do come but they don't come on the same day. The thing is this claim was something that would have been covered. The main problem I've had is that some of the vendors charge more than the Home Shield allows, so then I have to pay the amount over and above. There's one plumber that I've asked not to come back because he always wants to charge more than the allowable price. Home Shield has been good and they allow me to tell them to exclude certain vendors. But Stelter's HVAC Service for my most recent claim was very good. There was a couple of days delay getting them here because they had prior bookings on their schedule but the tech showed up on time and he did a great job. He was very thorough in fixing the AC. I’ve been with American Home Shield since September 2020 when I first got my house. I like it because it gives me a sense of comfort, knowing that if something big in my house has problems, the warranty will get it covered. I don't have to think about having to remove money from my savings. Instead, I can just pay the service fee. When the dryer wouldn't become hot, the contractor came and fixed it the same day. They were really good.
When I put in a claim for service because my ductwork wouldn't work at all, the person who came told me it was not fixable. I wasn't able to get a refund back of my service fee. When I renewed my last coverage, I included the dryer and washer in the plan. But when my washer broke down and I called, American Home Shield said, “You don't have coverage.” But I knew I did. So I told them that they could review all their call logs from the time I renewed it. But I had already fixed my washer. I spent $400. But then they called me a week after I fixed the thing saying, “Oh, yeah. You do have it. Sorry. We added it.”

I left American Home Shield for a better priced option. I have a 5,000-square-foot home and tons of appliances. I picked a three-year package with another warranty company at a cheap cost. It was supposed to be the same type of customer service and type of warranty. But it was not even close. Everything was prorated based on how old things were. American Home Shield never really goes into that. They just say your appliances are broken and that they will send a new one if it cannot be fixed.
I regretted leaving American Home Shield for three years, so I went back to them. Go with American Home Shield and don't try to go anywhere cheaper. I own three homes and I've tried several companies. I keep going back to American Home Shield. No more changing for me. My mother, sisters, and brother went with them too.
I used their service when my garage door came off track and wouldn't work. American Home Shield's contractors are good. For this claim, Beaver Overhead Door Company came out and replaced my garage door opener because it was shot. They replaced it within 48 hours. Something went wrong two weeks ago with that same door. Beaver came out and fixed the door free of cost. I was told that even though it was mechanical, it was attached to the electrical system and that was part of the company warranty.

It's not working out too well with American Home Shield. About a month ago, I put in a ticket to have our dishwasher fixed. They sent out a guy from Premier Home Appliances and he looked at the dishwasher. He made a diagnosis that the seal around the motorhead was broken or damaged or worn out. He told me he would get a part in about 7 to 10 business days so I waited a couple of days. Then, I called AHS and they told me that the guy said that the dishwasher needs additional repairs - a seal around the door, which will cost me $450. But he told me that we didn't need that. He said the only thing that's damaged is the seal around the motor.
I called back AHS to get a second opinion because this guy was trying to pull out $450 for a door seal that's not broken. They sent another contractor out, Chesapeake Appliances. Their guy came out and said there was nothing wrong with the door seal, contradicting the first guy that came out, but he said the motor seal is broken because it was leaking. I said okay and it was the same process of 7 to 10 business days. I called him 15 times throughout the day and I didn't get an answer. I left voicemails and everything but there was no response. Finally, I called back AHS and their rep said the guy said that I put trash in the motor to cause it to burn out so I can get it replaced. I told her he didn't even look inside the dishwasher except to get the serial number.
I did a pull up on this last guy that came out and his rating is 1. I have read 67 complaints about this guy not returning calls, stating the stuff was broken and then disappearing, never returning calls or follow-up with the customer. If AHS knows this guy or they read his ratings or check his background, why are they sending him out to people's homes to do the same incompetent job? He gets the 100 bucks and goes to the next job. And AHS gets $50 every month. I didn't pay them for that.
Appliances break and for him to say I sabotaged my dishwasher to get a new one is stupid. I'm disappointed with AHS. We pay them every month and they just blatantly believe what someone says. It's been a month since we're without a dishwasher. We're in the process of looking for another policy on a different carrier because AHS deals with contractors like that. They either try to get money or provide a false report. Also, AHS doesn't do their job. A customer has to call in to get the results from a contractor that comes out to do work. They don't follow up and they don't call us to let us know. We have to do all the leg work while they're getting paid.

I have a 1-year-old in the house and I needed to ensure the AC was working because it was really hot. The gentleman that they placed for the service was too busy and he couldn't make it until four or five days out. I needed to call American Home Shield so they could send the work out to another or bid it out to somebody else.
I kept calling back and they were telling me that their systems were down. It was a moment of extreme frustration because they kept saying that they couldn't even verify me. I'm like, "It's funny how you have a system online that is working, but your systems are down and you don't have any other way to be able to make a phone call for somebody in the area or something like that, without having to pull up my account a lot." I understand their perspective but it was not my problem.
I never foresee a problem with the payment coming out but they themselves had a problem. My problem is I wanna be able to get the services that I'm paying for when I need them. At the last minute, I was basically letting them know, "All I wanna do is if I pay this out of pocket, what is the likelihood of me getting this reimbursed from you guys since you guys are not providing me the service I need?" Even that, they couldn't answer. I was stuck between a bad place and a horrible one.
American Home Shield couldn't do anything and I was to keep calling back in an hour. I did that hour after hour throughout the day. That night, it was super hot and I couldn't get anybody in here. We had to find a way to just deal with it. We even had to go downstairs and put the windows and fans open. The next day, I was able to finally get somebody on hold around 11 o'clock at night or in the morning. They were able to try to get somebody else and that person was able to make it really quick. I have three separate sinks and two bathrooms, and they had leaks where they wouldn't shut off. So the contractor had to order some new cartridges to replace them. They were having problems getting the replacement cartridges. It took a month, which was a little inconvenient. But I was able to work around it. I have had other issues before with American Home Shield where the biggest problem I have is that when you have something of a higher quality that goes bad, they don’t replace it with the same level of quality. But generally, they continue to take care of the problem till it’s resolved.

AHS has a service where they would clean and update your system every spring for a fee and we did that. A contractor came out and said nothing was wrong with the system. But a couple of months later, we had to have it serviced because the coolant was low. I wondered why they didn't know when they did the service on it in the spring and they couldn't answer that. There's a charge every time you do a service so we had to pay for that. The tech said he filled it up with Freon.
Two months later, we started having problems again. I called in and AHS said that even though it was the same problem, we'd have to pay for another service thing because it had been more than 30 days. I said I don't want the same guy to come out because he's just gonna put more coolant in it and there's gotta be something wrong. Flowertown Heating came out the second time and we had to pay the fee again. They found that there was something wrong with the evaporative cooler and they had to order the part. It took a little while to do that but once they installed the part, we haven't had any more problems. We've made a few warranty claims and AHS has always been good about it.

I had a service call for a plumber because the dishwasher wasn't working. But they couldn't install it because the line was corroded. The plumber didn't fix that. So I have to hire someone on my own and pay that out of my pocket because American Home Shield cannot reimburse something. American Home Shield offered me 120 to get someone and install the dishwasher. But I have not found anybody who can install a dishwasher for that price. I called American Home Shield this morning and asked, "Can you take the check back that you guys sent and send me someone back?" They said, "You have to call some other number." When the plumber was here, American Home Shield should have given me the options. But they told me to figure it out on my own. I have the service with them because I don't want to figure it out on my own.
When I had a claim for the range hood, I had to call them again and I figured out someone who could install it. It was a lot. I didn't have a good time. Now, I gotta find who can install it over the weekend. American Home Shield should give me the option to choose my service providers and also me choosing locally, and then getting reimbursed.

I've used American Home Shield a few times. Everything is slow when you use the American Home Shield versus calling somebody, you get them out there same day. It took a week and a half to get my water heater squared away. My washer took five days before someone came out and looked at it. It takes long to happen, but with the water heater, it might have cost me 1,900 to get it done. And it cost a couple 100 just to be up to code.

I had a problem with my oven where there was a leak. Initially, a plumbing company came out within a couple of days and resealed the connection to my oven. The plumber recommended that Precision Appliance come out additionally to ensure there were no further issues with the oven. It was in two to three days for each turnaround from when they said they would be out to when someone showed up.
Both techs that came were very fast and they seemed knowledgeable about what they were doing. The plumber got the connection resealed with a better seal than was currently on there and I haven't had any issues since. The Precision Appliance guy brought a gas leak detector to make sure that nothing else was leaking. That put my mind at ease. He even adjusted the flame height on my stove because they were too high. Every time I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, they were very fast to get somebody out there. The people that they've contracted to come in and fix everything have gotten the job done.

My washing machine broke down. I called AHS and their reps were very sympathetic. They gave me my options and the turnaround time was four days, which was decent given the state that we're in right now. Once they assigned Sears to me when I made my claim, the very next day, Sears called me and asked me what was the problem. My machine is a little bit more modern, so it came up with a code, and I was able to give them the code. So, they put that code on the part on the truck that came and when the technician got here, we talked and I told him what was going on. He looked at it and verified the code that I had.
He even went further than that. He pulled all the hoses and looked at them to make sure it was only that particular problem. After he did all that, he put the machine back together and put the new part in. Then he turned on the washing machine and told me to wash a load to see how it was going to do. I did that and it was fine. And it's been fine ever since. I was very impressed with that technician from Sears and if my washing machine went down again, I wouldn't use anybody else but them. I've also had other issues and the technicians that AHS sent were not as good. Some of them, I've had to call back twice.

I had the contractor come out twice in recent history here. When I had them come for my dishwasher, it was because it wasn't drying the dishes. So, they came out and looked at it and it was the heating element needed to be replaced. So, the guy looked at it and said, "Yeah, I'll just order that." And three days later, he came and put one in and fixed the problem.
My dryer started getting a burning smell and not operating right. So, I called again and they sent the same guy. He came and replaced a bunch of parts on my dryer and thought it would be good to go. But when I tried to run the dryer, it continued to make a loud noise. So, I called the Tennessee Appliance back. They sent me a text and I texted them and let them know. And they said, "Oh, well, we'll send them back out." So, he came back out yesterday and said, "I think it's just a bad belt. I'm gonna get a new belt." So, they have an appointment scheduled to come back out on Monday. I love American Home Shield. I've always advocated for it.

But one thing that I loathe is speaking with someone or trying to make them understand when they are foreigners, and they do not understand our language, English. Every single time I make a request for someone to come out or have a question about something, I get these people who are offshore, and they just babble and babble and babble. We have two appliances that were supposed to be done. One was the stove, and one was the microwave. Sears came out to take a look at my microwave. The gentleman was outstanding. He came out first, evaluated the microwave, and ordered the part. The part came to our house then he came back and fixed it. However, American Home Shield has never gotten back to us on the stove. I have a burner that's not working properly and an oven not heating properly. The problem is American Home Shield had me go look for an appliance person, but nobody will work for them. I told American Home Shield, “You need to find the appliance person because I can't find them.” It's been two months or longer. The burner gets hot. It's dangerous. If it's on low, it'll go high. I have three other burners, but it's a safety thing.
That's the same with our plumbing. When we had issues with our plumbing downstairs, we couldn’t find a plumber. We ended up paying for some stuff ourselves because we needed it done ASAP. Our air conditioner compressor went out, and we just paid for it because it was such a hassle. If it would have been the entire air conditioner, we would have had to fight until we got it fixed. We paid money for the home warranty, but it's like pulling hair to get anything fixed because American Home Shield has a horrible reputation with paying. Contractors don't wanna do any work unless you pay them upfront. They don't even wanna mess with American Home Shield. American Home Shield has to go out and hire their own people. The reps are polite but not efficient in getting anything done. It probably could be their hands are tied or they've got a process they go through.

Super Rooter has been out a couple of times. They are my go-to if I have any plumbing issues. That’s one of the companies that I request if they have any openings during that time. I like their work. American Home Shield seems cost effective, but sometimes it seems pricey. I may use the service once every eight to nine months. After paying for the service fee, it feels like the service that's being done is not equivalent to what's being charged monthly plus the service fee for the contractor to come out.
I recently changed my plan to the Platinum plan, but I didn't know about the individual plans. The website has it that you have to act like you're applying for an American Home Shield contract first before you can see the plans, the price points and what's covered under the plans. It's also a hassle to get ahold of somebody when I have to call. I called to see about one of my service requests in terms of having them come out to the house since I never got ahold of the service provider once it was assigned to me. I had AHS in my last house and was very satisfied with it. When I bought this house, the seller included a year's home warranty and it was a different company. It was horrible. I had to get my own repairperson. They didn't cover everything they said they'd cover. So I dropped it before the year was out and signed up with American Home Shield again because I know that it's a reputable company. I don't have to find the plumber or electrician, AHS does. I love it.
For my recent claim, the control for the shower was stuck in the guest bathroom. I submitted a claim to AHS and they assigned a plumber. That plumber called and made an appointment to come out. Then the day of the appointment, they called and said, "We can't come today. We'll have to come tomorrow." The next day that they were supposed to come, they called and said, "We can't come today, but we can come on Monday." It irritated me. So I called AHS back and said I wanted a different plumber. That was when they sent Redman.
He came out. He fixed the knob that controls the showerhead, but it was still leaking from the hot water and the cold water knobs. He told me that that was not covered by the claim. But AHS didn't say that. I told him, "I thought you would replace it if you couldn't stop the leak." He said, "I can. But you'll have to file a second claim and pay a second deductible or you can just pay me the $100 and I'll replace it." So that was what I did. He did good work. But I felt he was scamming me. But I got a new faucet and it's working fine.

I needed a new thermostat and the motherboard was messed up, so the tech ended up ordering a part. But he was there the next morning to put it on.
I've had to use American Home Shield three times already and all three times, the problem was rectified. I haven't even been in my house two years yet. Those have been great experiences and going with AHS is probably one of the best decisions I could have made. We were having a discussion the other day about BCE Home Warranty as opposed to American Home Shield, and I told all my friends that the one that American Home Shield offers is a lot more in-depth and it covers more, so it’s worth the money.

However, the policy is slightly overpriced and I'm debating whether or not to continue with AHS. It's about $600 per annum and to recoup that annually is quite difficult. It essentially was recouped on the hot water dispenser, but that's quite a rare instance. I don't need my house rekeyed six times a year. I know it's an insurance policy, but the major things, like there is a broken shelf in my refrigerator and I was told that it's not covered because the refrigerator is still refrigerating. It wasn’t a service issue. Genuine Plumbing & Rooter was very good. I could not complain about the service which is not always the case with vendors. I would give them an A plus. This poor guy had to come back three times before it was fixed. I had to go through American Home Shield's phone system to talk to a human because the website didn’t provide an option for callbacks. If you’ve had service then you've got further issues about an existing claim, a "click here" type of thing would probably be a good option to have. Someone came out for my AC and was not so thorough. They changed the king valve but there was another one that had to be changed. I was not happy. A guy from 5 Star came out next and did a great job. He checked everything and was knowledgeable. He knew what he was doing and was thorough. American Home Shield is expensive for me. With the first claim I did, I didn't know that after 30 days it would no longer be under warranty. I had to open a contract and I had to pay another $120. I don't like that part.

There was a smell coming from the bathroom and I didn't know if it was something going on with all my plumbing in the house, so the techs checked all the bathrooms and made sure everything was fine. Then they found something that was clogged in the drainage of the bathtub, so that was the issue, and since the repair, everything has been functioning well. These techs were better than others because I've had a couple of bad experiences with contractors. But for the most part, I haven't had major problems. All in all, American Home Shield is a good quality company as long as they continue to have good quality contractors that come out to customers’ homes to do quality work.

Having AHS has been great so far. Every year, something goes wrong and they have been able to step up and either fix or replace. Recently, a panel on the oven went out. The techs got out in a day or two and it was really quick service. They had to wait for a part to come in but as soon as it did, they called me and told me it was available to be installed. The tech installed it right away.
With the prices of appliances in general, a home warranty is an investment. The price has been creeping up but it almost pays itself off even if a claim is just once a year on a big appliance.

Having AHS as my warranty is great. The ability to call one place regarding all of the issues that I'm having with my home systems makes it convenient. Also, I feel confident when I call that toll-free number, they're going to connect me with a reputable bonded person who knows how to repair. It seems like their people have been vetted because there's just so much garbage out here and so many people that you can't really trust. I had a plumbing service call recently. The plumber came right out and fixed it. I'll be referring him to others. He's that good and that professional. That's the issue that I've often run into with some of the service people that I've come in contact with, a lack of professionalism.

I called them. They came back and did something to it so it would start back again. It took them a day or two, but they got back and did that. I also had a claim with the water heater that was done just right before that and it wasn't so easy. It was a clustered thing, because I had one claim going on in my hot water heater, and I called back to report about the ice maker. That was put in, but then the water heater was somehow taken out. Nobody had called me back about the water heater one.

The electrical sockets wouldn't stay on and wouldn't work, and the guy fixed everything right away. For most of our claims, American Home Shield has been great. The technicians themselves have been good but we had an experience this last time with Sears for our dishwasher and it wasn't on AHS. It was the last one that just got fixed but the claim was out in for that before the electrical. I was bummed because the techs were super nice but when they were installing the new dishwasher, they broke a piece off. It wasn't technically their fault. It was eroded. So, it was fine. But I had to get another one and then try to figure out how to fix it myself, which I'm not the greatest at. So, that was challenging and the company probably should have done it even if they charge me for it because I don't know what I'm doing down there. Still, American Home Shield people that I've talked to have always been awesome. I'm very happy with them.

At the end of the cycle, the light didn’t turn off. Sometimes, the door was locked, sometimes it wasn’t. They said that they were gonna be in contact with American Home Shield to let them know that it’s possible that the part that they replaced was defective. We are supposed to hear from American Home Shield if they’re gonna authorize new parts, or if they’re gonna replace the washer.
I also did a claim on the doorbell. American Home Shield told me that they were gonna look for someone. It took a while. I tried to look on my own but couldn’t find any electrician that would be willing to work with them. It's been two years but until now, I haven’t heard from them. They still kept my claim fee when we submit a claim every time. I've had a very good experience in the past except for this only time with the doorbell. I live in a really small town. I've had three claims with American Home Shield. The first one, for a washing machine. And the initial part of it went well. However, the option that we were given and eventually decided on ended up being on back order. And it took close to six weeks to get a washing machine. That was in the middle of COVID. Many factors which American Home Shield had no control over. The problem was when I needed to contact them. There were some issues with it. Because we initially were given an option, and we chose that four hours later, it was not available. There was a bit of back and forth before we finally got it straightened out. But getting in touch to talk to them, their hold times were so long.
I would come to work at 6:45 in the morning, and I would call them at 7:00 am when they opened. If I didn't do that, I was on hold for two-plus hours. If you call it 3:30 and you were still on hold at 5:00, they would hang up on us and we have to start again the next day. Once we finally got to talk to a person, they were always very helpful and accommodating.
Scheduling through their online thing was fine. However, there was only one service provider in a 50-mile radius that was available that was contracted with them. And he never returned my calls. They made us attempt three times through this guy before they would finally do something else. But once after the third time, they straight up replaced the television, even without the service call. It just took a while. The last one, I had a heating element go out of my oven. I put in the request online. I did it Friday afternoon. The tech called us Monday morning. He was out by Wednesday. In and out in half an hour, replaced, no problem. Had my oven back up and working.

I have an open case right now and I'm still trying to get a resolution. The refrigerator freezer went out and the tech came out the next day. But it's a sealed system. The pain started after that in trying to get a company to come out. American Home Shield assigned Sears who couldn't come out for two and a half weeks. I was back on the phone with them and I couldn't get ahold of anybody at Sears. I was going round and round and in the meantime, I was throwing food away.
Finally, they assigned a company. I called them to get it scheduled and they said they should’ve never accepted it. They're not allowed to accept an order that's already been accepted by somebody else. I said Sears didn't come out but they said it doesn't matter. If it's been accepted by another company, they can't come out. I was back on the phone with American Home Shield again. In the last two weeks, I have spent the equivalent of eight hours on the phone. I should bill them for my time.
We finally get somebody to come out and the guy opened the door of the freezer and said he's gonna have to order some parts. That was it. He was here for two minutes. I asked how long is that going to take and he said it would probably be a couple of days. I told him I'd already tried to get American Home Shield to cash me out. He said, “Yeah compressor, Freon, four hours of labor. It's probably somewhere between $1,200 and $1,500.” It's a 15-year-old refrigerator, it's not worth 1,200 to 1,500 bucks. I went back to American Home Shield and asked if I could get the cash out option and it's four days later now. I just went out and bought another refrigerator. I had no choice. And this happens a lot with them.
Another thing is it's very frustrating to deal with their call center in the Philippines because they can't relate. It’s a cultural gap. Some of them are a little bit difficult to understand. They're reading from a script and they spend their entire time apologizing. It seems that within American Home Shield, one group can't talk to another group. I believe most of those people over there are working from home, which I don't really care about, but when you call there, it is painful. Even when I get a US person, they're nice and helpful but they're also working remote. Also, when I ask them to get a manager, they say the manager is not there and they would call me back in 24 to 48 hours. It's not customer service-friendly. The only thing that they do quickly and promptly is take my copay.

We called American Home Shield recently when our air was not cooling. I always go through the app, which is very user-friendly, and making this appointment online was quick and easy. Although we're not able to select multiple things at one time, I get that. That is to keep jobs housed separately. The technician from Tru Tech came out, and it was very quick and painless. The tech was out for 10 minutes, and apparently, the issue was the capacitor.
We’ve had American Home Shield for many years and when it comes to getting things replaced, it has been a huge debacle every single time. Our dishwasher was the last item that was replaced. Our dishwasher was out from May to September, by the time we got it replaced. There was a lot of back and forth, and because we've been with them for so long, I know the runaround. I had to call them on it too. I said, “You just sent another person out here. You’re not gonna send another person to my house. In COVID, you’re not going back and forth. It’s clearly not working. So we want it replaced.” They put the onus on the technician. The technician has to say it can’t be replaced, and I was like, “Why can’t my word be bond?”
My husband and I were ready to call it quits, then miraculously, we got the department on the line, giving us a gift card to buy our dishwasher. After 20-plus years, I should not have to go to hell and back to get an item replaced. I’m praying to God nothing else breaks in here, because I’m sure we’re gonna go through the same rigmarole. But we have a PhD in dealing with American Home Shield.

United Garage repaired the sensors and it was fine. My main issue is with my air conditioning claim. It's been a nightmare. I know American Home Shield has been trying to help out, but it's been moving really slow. I put that claim out at the end of August, and I still have no AC. The first time, it was the compressor that needed to be replaced, but when the first AC guys came in, I didn't really trust them. They're called Mr. Freeze, and they have a one-star rating on Yelp. Every single review of theirs is terrible. So I had another AC guy come in just to check what was wrong with the unit, and he also said the compressor wasn't working. We tried doing the replacement, but when Mr. Freeze came back, they said, "The AC is not turning on, so there's some electrical issue." So we got an electrician to fix it.
The third time the AC people came was two weeks ago, and I heard a bang while they were working on the unit. They said the compressor blew up and all the Freon dissipated. It was like, they saw the Freon come out of the AC. They also told me that the unit is now messed up. I've had enough. I went from the unit working properly, just didn't blow cold air, to what's now completely messed up, and I know that Mr. Freeze is fault. That's why they're working hard to tell the manufacturer to replace it, but the manufacturer knows it's not their fault either. The manufacturer said, "This is only a five-year-old unit. How did it just suddenly stop working? That doesn't happen." These units cost like 10 grand each, and I don't wanna pay 10 grand for something that I had no control over.

The fan motor was going out on my outside AC unit and started making a noise. A guy came out and he looked at it. I asked if he could replace the motor and he said he could not replace it until it goes all the way out. I said, "Buddy, you can hear the motor. The bearings are going. It's broken. It's fixing to go out here in the next day or so." But he still said he could not do it as the AC was still working. That didn't make sense to me. He told me I would have to call American Home Shield back when it goes out. They would call the service company and they'll come back out to repair it.
Two days later, the motor quit working and it almost burned up the unit. American Home Shield would rather replace a $200 motor instead of replacing a $5,000 air conditioner. I had to call American Home Shield and they said they would dispatch the techs back out. They came out a day later. It was three days after the motor went out that I went without my air conditioner. Luckily, it was not too hot and I had a window unit that I could put in the kitchen to keep the house a little cool. But during the night, it wasn't too bad.
On the whole, I was discouraged about what happened. But it is what it is. I had another claim for a refrigerator problem. I had to call two or three times to get the tech guys back out here. The whole deal with that was with parts as they were waiting on them. There were two parts - the hinges on the door and the ice maker. The icemaker could have been replaced before the hinges. The tech had to order the hinges and said he was going to come back when the hinges all came in. They could have fixed that but I went without an icemaker for about three weeks until the parts came in. The techs then came back and fixed it.
American Home Shield is good and I have recommended them to people. I know how the home warranty works and it's a $100 service fee. Techs look at the issue, call American Home Shield, get the parts then come back out. I understand all that. The guys that came out that did the work were really professional. The ladies that I talked to on the phone were really helpful too. There was a time when my card on file got hacked. I got a recorded message saying to call American Home Shield. I called in to get the service and it was right around the same time I called in for the air conditioner. The rep said I was late on my payment. because I got hacked, I need to put a card on file so they can take the payment off of that one and delete the other one. The rep reinstated it so that was a good part. We got it all straightened out. They were a big help on that end.
