I bought a Whirlpool Duet sport front loading washing machine on 1-4-09 from Lowe's. It ran fine for one week and then we had to stop it in the middle of a rinse cycle and leave our house. When we came back, the machine will not start. The lights are all lit up, but when you push the start button, it shuts itself off. I called Whirlpool customer service and they advised us to unplug it for 20 minutes. Then they told us they couldn't get a repairman out until next Tuesday, but we could call ourselves and maybe get one sooner from a local repair place! The service tech I called will be at my house today to perform an autopsy on the machine. If Whirlpool monitors these complaints, be advised that I dropped $600 on this machine and you get one chance to make it right, or you get it back!

After reading all the complaints, I couldn't believe what I was hearing because I have gone through exactly the same thing: moldy, smelly washing machine, leaks. When I bought the top of the line with the matching $ tag, I didn't expect to get the bottom of the barrel. I have a matching duet laundry pair. The washer has given me problems from the start. Now suddenly, the dryer quit. I had the repairman out and the motor is fried. I'm lucky it didn't burn down my house with the stink it let out before it quit! And the dryer is only 3 years old. I will never buy Whirlpool again!

I have a Whirlpool Duet Washer that has black on the rubber gasket around the door and smells like mold and the stench is terrible. The clothes washed in it smell like mold too. I called in 2002 soon after buying the washer to Whirlpool to report the mold smell. The rep I spoke with was rude to me in tone and attitude, telling me that there was nothing to be done about the problem except that I should wash and dry my (new expensive) washer and leave the door opened. I called back hoping to get a hold of someone who could help me with this problem. I had no success and was only upset by all the people I spoke with to the point that I had a bad headache. I had just spent over $1,000.00 and was very upset and felt depressed because we had spent so much money and were offered no alternative from Whirlpool.
Not knowing what else to do, I did what they told me to do, cleaning the washer and leaving the door opened for the last six years. And now for the past month or so, I can't get the black to come off of the rubber gasket. The smell is in all of our clothes. I have used front loader washer cleaning tablets; they did not fix the problem. I called Whirlpool today, 01-05-2008. I still have not been given a remedy to this problem of mold and stench. I was told by the Whirlpool rep to contact A & E Factory for an appointment with an authorized tech to come and diagnose the problem. I do have an appointment for 01-07-2008. I must pay for this and don't know if they will be able to remedy the problem.
I believe this is a health hazard. My husband is very upset about the mold and smell in our home and on our clothes. He gave me direct orders last evening to get this mold problem resolved even if I have to purchase a new machine to do it. He said no more front loaders as he believes this problem exists in all of them. I however don't believe this because at the laundry mat (on Alum Creek Drive in Obetz) that I have to go to in order to avoid the mold smell on our clothes, the front loaders there do not have the mold smell.
Whirlpool seems to me to be in denial about this problem when I speak to a rep on the phone. Although, I believe the Affresh tabs are manufactured by Whirlpool which suggests to me that they are well aware of this problem. Please see that all washer manufactures do not get by with this. It has caused a lot of problems for me emotionally and healthwise; and I would appreciate help in dealing with this problem. I'm sure many other people could benefit from a remedy to this problem as well.
When I contact Whirlpool, the reps I speak with make me feel as though I am the only person having this problem, and that I must be doing something wrong. I just want to remedy this problem and to be treated with respect. I want my laundry to be clean and smell clean. I want a washer that doesn't need to be cleaned after each use. I want a washer that cleans my laundry. I want Whirlpool to fix this problem. I think that the problem arises from the kind of rubber they are using. It should be mold resistant.
One consequence is the smell of mold in our home and on our clothes which is unhealthy, embarrassing and unacceptable. Another consequence is the time and money I have spent trying to get rid of the mold and smell of mold in my home and on my clothes. I have used more cleaning products to do this and have spent so much time cleaning and the stress for me as a house wife to have a mold smell in her home and on her clothes has been unbearable. My husband is being treated for breathing problems since buying this washer. We both have been treated for allergies since buying this washer.
Now after all of my hard labor trying to have a clean home and laundry, I have to buy a new different washer to achieve this? The frustration and distress this washer has caused me, I'm not able to put in to words. I am not well. I feel that I am a victim of Whirlpool. I need help. I don't know that the next washer I purchase won't have a similar problem. I believe that the public deserves better. We need to be able to purchase products that perform correctly, all products not just washers. We have had a lot of trouble for other appliances that have been recalled time after time. That doesn't help us when we have to pay to have them replaced or are inconvenienced due to the appliance not being operational. It should not be this hard. Please help.

We purchased a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II top-load washing machine on December 30, 2006. As we were doing laundry two years and one day later, the machine stopped working properly. It will not spin during the spin cycle and makes a huge, obnoxious noise. The Whirlpool will not help, but offered a 15% discount on another Whirlpool appliance. I will not purchase another Whirlpool appliance. I expect expensive appliances to be more reliable and last more than two years and one day!

I registered my complaint as on 23/12/08 and still no one has attended on such claim. Earlier, I have also surveyed your service center at Patna and got a very bad experience there. Whole details are mentioned here: My washing machine has been out of order due to rat cut but to date, it is in warranty period. So I registered my complaint to your Muzaffarpur service center and someone came to my home place i.e., Riga ** and inspected the machine and took RS.300/-. He told my father that he will be back within 15-20 days with accessories and do what needed to be done. But even though we did a lot of reminder, he did not come. After 1-2 months, he suggested to send it to my service center in Muzaffarpur. Muzaffarpur is not convenient for me, so I told him to return my deposit i.e., Rs.300/- (without any receipt). He refused to do so.
Then I brought my washing machine in Patna. I was ready to pay transportation charge of Rs.250/- from my residence (**, Kankarbagh, Patna-20) to service center and also ready to pay accessories charges which was destroyed by the rat. But your service engineer at Patna, Mr. **, also demanded service charge. But I refused to pay the service charge because it was within warranty period. He told me I have to pay service charge. I then requested Mr. ** if service charge was payable to please bear with me and adjust Rs.300/- which I have already paid to the Muzaffarpur service center. He refused to do so and told us in this regard we have to talk with my Muzaffarpur service center.
So I am very much disappointed with this. You are a reputable company with service centers all over India. What kind of service is being provided by your service centers? It is also surprising that they would demand service charge within the warranty period. You service center has no respect for customers. Mr. ** told me that I was free to complain anywhere and also go to court. Sir, in this regard, your opinion is awaited that such kind of harassment is justifiable, and I have no other way to go to court. Customer is helpless in front of your service provider. Your opinion is awaited.

I purchased a front load Whirlpool washer and dryer from Leon's in July 2008. The salesman assured me this was the best washer and dryer on the market. Twenty three days after they delivered the set, the washer locked the door during the cycle and locked all my clothes inside. We were not able to get them out. I called Leon's and they directed me to call Whirlpool, so I did. They then tried to get a service technician, but that was not going to happen for close to a month before anyone could be available to come look at it. I was extremely mad since I had a house fire and purchased all of my furniture at Leon's. I told them they would replace it or they could come get their $20,000,00 of furniture sitting in my house. They did bring me another.
I had this washer and it is now broken after 4 months. I called Whirlpool and they sent a tech. He tried to tell me it was the water pump, that a piece of underwire from my bra got stuck in it. There is no way. So needless to say, I am stuck with no washer. It is the Christmas holidays so the laundromat it is. I called Whirlpool and they said there was nothing they could but send the tech with the part as it was convenient for him. I will never buy Whirlpool again, and I am only 25.

Then yesterday when I was using the washer, it started making so much noise I was scared to shut it off. The washer is not under extended warranty any more. My husband took the washer apart and the back of the tub has pop metal on the back. It has broken all apart. It has damaged the tub the front and the back holder of the tub. The only thing that is not damage is the frame of the washer. I called Whirlpool this morning twice. They gave me a song and dance. I am upset this washer has been a lemon since we got it!!! We purchased the Calypso washer about 1 1/2 years ago and had to have a repairman out today to only tell it was going to cost $500 to repair. It needs a u-joint, a pump and a few other things. When I contacted the 800 number for Sears she told me my warranty had expired, and when they tried to troubleshoot it they told me they could not tell me too much since my warranty was expired. I do not think a washer should only work for 1 1/2 years. It should have lasted at 5 years for the money you pay.

We purchased a Whirlpool duet set in 2007. Just one year later the drum broke loose in the washer and we had to replace the unit. I was told by a repairman that he had never seen such damage and it would cost more to repair it than to replace it. We decided this time to buy a Maytag because of the reputation for dependability. We made a mistake buying from Best Buy. Please don't make the same mistake. The first machine delivered was broken from the start and the delivery man filled out an order for a replacement. The second machine delivered the delivery men didn't level it so it broke. We had purchased a warranty so we had no problem getting a service request.
The problem was getting the people out here to fix the machine. We waited a week for the man to come out and find out what was wrong and another month after that for them to come out and fix the machine. We have a new baby and a little one who is potty training and older children so the amount of money we spent at the laundromat for the month was ridiculous. It has now been only a month since the machine was fixed and we are already having problems. My clothes smell when they come out of the wash cycle and the machine needs to be leveled again.
Now the whirlpool dryer we bought a year ago with the original set isn't drying our clothes. I have to run the clothes through at least twice and sometimes they are still damp. I was shocked to find this site and see that so many other people are having the same problems as I have been having. I am even more upset to see that whirlpool merged with Maytag. It makes sense to me now that I have had such problems with both the Whirlpool and Maytag machines as well as both companies not wanting to do anything about it.
To anyone who is thinking of buying a major appliance from Best Buy, I would advise against it. I found the service departments customer service to be very rude. I was hung up on and when I called back to make a complaint I was spoken to very rudely and then not connected to the department I requested. Let me assure you I was not rude nor loud with anyone that I spoke with. After getting nowhere with the service department I called the best buy store to place a complaint about the service department and was told that they had nothing to do with the service department and after 30 days they couldn't even look you up in the computer. I am very unhappy with Whirlpool, Maytag and best buy for not standing beside their products.

I bought Whirlpool Calypso Washer & Dryer in Oct 2002 . At that time, consumer reports ranked it one of the topmost. I started having problems within a year but as it was covered under one year warranty, I kind of compromised and later I got extended warranty for three years. On & off I got it repaired. Now it's becoming nuisance to use this washer. I have error code on display Ld. The technician has no solution for it. I am doing everything he has recommended like use vinegar in all cycles (without clothes) and using the detergent. Some days I can do washing without setting & resetting cycle but some days cannot finish single load.

I purchased a Whirlpool washer from sears on May of 2005. At the end of the first year, 1 week before the 1 year warranty expired the water pump went out. It was replaced at no charge. Now, 2 years later, it has gone bad again. Upon realizing it would cost around $300 to repair it because the pump is not part of the 2-5 year limited warranty, I come to find out that it was already known a year before I bought it that these washers were bad. Now I'm stuck trying to find something else because I see no point in replacing an item that will go bad approximately every 2 years.

We bought a Whirlpool Front Loader Washer Dryer Duet and hooked it up on 8/14/08. Since we hooked it up, the washer has not washed our clothes, they come out stained and smelly still. 2 different service companies have come out to look at it, and per WP, since the washer has 2 inches of water in it and the inside turns around, that the washer works. I have called Whirlpool many times, and was told that only parts and labor covered, and that 2 service companies have deemed it in working order, and WP refuses to cover anything else.
I have only asked them to trade my washer out for a top loader that actually will clean our clothes, and WP refuses to do this and will only say, "I am sorry you feel that way." We went to the pawn shop and bought a used washer dryer set for $300.00 just to wash our clothes, and they come clean in it. (WP thinks that maybe I am just not pre-treating the stains enough). Our clothes washed in this piece of junk machine have all been ruined, and I paid $2,000.00 for the set.
Whirlpool has the worst customer service ever, and I will never, ever buy one of their appliances again.

American replaced the following parts: Electronic Control W10201186 Tub Ring W10130807 Impeller W10141017. Technician also advised that many consumers have complained about twisted, knotted articles after washing. Apparently, these three parts should resolve the issues that we've experienced. I am very disappointed that I was not advised of these problems. I am also disappointed that for a year now, I have been washing smaller loads of wash thinking that would help the smell. I recently purchased smellywasher for $16.00 plus shipping to help eliminate my NEVER ending smelly laundry! I will advise if this product works.
At this point, I am ready to replace my washer with a old fashioned top loader! My expense has been the original purchase at $1,1100.00 and $52.00 worth of cleaning solutions designed for front loader washers.

My clothes come out smelling worse then they did going in. They are so twisted, even though they are no iron you still have to iron them.
For a $997.00 washer, to have as much problems as I have had and that others have had Whirlpool needs to own-up, or a class action need to be filed.

In 2002 I purchased a Whirpool Calypso washing machine. I liked that it was a top loader because at the time I was having some low back difficulties and didn't want to do a lot of bending to get clothes in and out of the washer. Almost immediately, I noticed that the washer would slide around the laundry room during use. I called Sears and then someone out who said the machine was perfectly level and nothing was wrong. I was told it should settle eventually.
About 6 months later when I got sick of pushing it back in place all the time which hurt my back, I called again. The Sears guy again told me nothing was wrong - everything was level. Once the washer was a year old and I called they told me there would be a charge for them to come out and I wasn't about to pay for someone to tell me nothing was wrong again. Eventually, the washer moved less and less. The spin cycle on this machine was so rough that when you sat on the toilet in the guest bathroom next to the laundry room you had to hold on due to the vibration!
Recently, the circut board failed - and although that's supposed to be under a 5 year warranty, the part that makes it work, for some inexplicable reason is not and they wanted about $500 to repair it. I told the repair man to go away because it wasn't worth it. When the old washer was removed to place the new one, I discovered why the Calypso stopped sliding across the floor over the years. It had completely torn up my nice flooring and dug into the wood underneath. I'm told that both will have to be torn out and replaced.
I called Whirlpool and was told that this is my fault because I did not periodically move the washer to check the floor underneath. I told the guy that this was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'm 5'3 and about 110 lbs. I can't move a washer. The 2 men who moved it into my house used special equipment to move it in. Does he really think I'm going to do this? I don't know anyone who moves their own washing machine. He acted like everyone does this on a regular basis. I've had quite a few washers and never has this happened. I feel that I took all the right steps, relied on the expert opinion of the Sears repairman who came out twice and told me that there was nothing wrong and the machine would settle down eventually. Well, it sure did - right into my floor.
Damage to my floor and the supporting wood under the floor - see above. The damage is at the back part of where the washing machine would stand and not the front. It must have been the feet that constantly rubbed into the flooring and eventually dug themselves in.

I have just spent over an hour reading complaints very similar to mine about the Whirlpool Cabrio washer (top load) and dryer. My husband surprised me with this VERY EXPENSIVE set after my 22 year old Kenmore washer stopped working. At first I was very excited because I could wash such big loads. When I noticed that my clothes were not that clean and clean towels smelled bad, I used the clean only cycle with bleach and reduced the amount of clothes in the loads. This did not help and the towels, wash cloths and dish towels still smell musty when you re-wet them. It is so annoying to step out of the shower and bring a dirty smelling towel to your face.
Also, if I do not pre-treat every little spot, it does not come out. I have to send my kids' sports clothes to my mom to wash because it will not even touch grass or dirt stains, pre-treated or not. The dryer does not dry well - it krinkles up pants legs and shirt sleeves get all tangled up. I also had a problem with leakage from the washer when it was new, but my husband fixed it without having to call a repairman, thank God, because a friend of mine did and she is still waiting for the part, after FOUR weeks. I purchased a Whirlpool Washer and Gas Dryer in November 2006 from Best Buy(Henrietta NY). From the beginning, when using the dryer (Model# WGD5530FQ0), on occasion a piece of clothing would come out with a spot or twisted up. I noticed the clothing was getting stuck on the plastic rim at the front of the dryer opening. Where as it only happened on occasion, I just ffigured it was a design flaw. I never encountered this problem with my prior Whirlpool dryer.
But earlier this month I had to call a repairman when a shirt and washcloth became so entrapped in the seal I couldn't remove them. According to my repairman, the dryer drum is warped and it was inn that condition since manufacture. He said Whirlpool should honor the repair under warranty even though it is past the warranty period. My cost for the service call, replacing the seals, installing a used drum, and labor came to $189.00 including tax. I asked Whirpool to replace and install a new drum at their cost and to reimburse my repair cost that I incurred because of the found defect.
I feel Whirlpool owes me a new dryer drum plus the repair cost of $189.00 I incurred because of the found defect. My repairman says the dryer drum could not be warped through my use. It is a manufacturer defect.

I don't believe that is satisfactory I payed for extended warranty every year on these machines until this past year when they didn't send a renewal.
When I emailed and called them about renewing I didn't get any response. That's when I learned they quit making the calypso. I also just found out that there have been other complaints like mine regarding the same problems, and again no notice from whirlpool regarding the problems or recall.

I purchased a WFW9200SQ Duet HE Washer from Lowes on 3/07. I was offered a 2,3 or 4 year extended warranty but based on previous outstanding history of longetivity with Whirlpool products, I declined. After no issues with my washer for a year and 3 months, I experienced an F11 code. It would power on, start up, fill with water than stop. After calling out A&E for $65 service call, I was told I needed a new controller which would cost me around $800 after labor when I purchased my new washer for around $1000.
I was upset and read all these comments. I decided to also contact whirlpool through their customer service and also sent emails directly to their upper management. Not expecting much, I surprisingly got a call back from Whirlpool 4 days later offering to fix my machine at no charge. They overnighted me the part I needed, said they would cover the labor charge and even offered to setup an appointment for me. After waiting 10 days for A&E to come out, and being over 2 hours past their scheduled time, they installed the part in about 10 minutes, offered me a 3 year extended warranty which I purchased on the spot for only $150 and told me if I had any more problems to give them a call.
So I am writing to let everyone know if you are respectful, upfront, aggressive yet polite and professional, whirpool and a&e will both respond as such and give you what you want - and expect. I will update if I have anymore issues, but except for a high spin cycle going crazy and this one major issue with the motherboard going out, I have had no issues with cleaning clothes or odor as others have mentioned. That said, I am a family of two with no kids, am very careful with my equipment and never overuse or abuse it. I am careful to make sure no objects are left in pockets, I wash either early in the morning or late at night to prevent electrical surges and do not run when I have other appliances at work.
I can not say a single negative experience about Whirlpool or A&E as of today except that I was out of work for a day, had to goto the laundry mat one time and had to waste a day waiting for the repairman to show, though I didnt have to pay for anything. I do feel it is ridiculous for a washer to go out after 1yr 3+ months, but I am happy with the result so far and hope to have no more issues.

Two months ago I started using The washer and dryer again. I made sure since I paid 2400.00 for the washer/dryer set to make sure I stored it in a well controlled climate room.
2 Days ago The washer would not start kept giving repeated F-01 code. I located the repairmans guide for it under the front panel. Tried the recommended test of unplug for 2 minutes the try again. Didnt work. after extensive search it is determined to be the CCU.. The Mother Board. This washer has been used 5 but no more than 6 months. However.. Whirlpool only has a year Warranty on its products.
I wished I would have done more research first. When I bought it it was so expensive and looked good. I never thought it would be trouble specially since I took so much care of it. I thought all washers and dryers had 5 year warranties. But not Whirlpool.

The dryer does not dry in one cycle as it should and has to be restarted again and again. The washer, within the 2nd year of owning it, had to have the entire guts replaced. Now I am having the problem with mold and the musty smell on our clothes. I also purchased the washer magic from the last repairman who came out and it has not helped with the odor.
Oh, I just purchased a new warranty on the washer, but now after reading so many other people are having the same issue with their washers and the odor I believe this problem cannot be remedied and I am getting rid of the machine. I will do a lot of research before purchasing another machine and definitely will not purchase a Whirlpool
I have suffered the expense of taking off work to be available all day waiting for repairmen to show up. Expense of purchasing cleaning products for washer to eliminate odor. Expense of re-washing and re-drying. Expense of extra dryer sheets trying to eliminate odor from clothing. I would like to see a class suit against Whirlpool on this Duet Washer. We purchased a new Whirlpool Duet washer in Feburary 2006 and the dryer in July 2006. The washer hasn't given us a bit of trouble since we bought it BUT the dryer...oh the dryer is an entirely different story. We have had several problems with the circuit boards and the drum being out of round. The dryer made a scraping noise at each rotation thus ruining the seal. It also wouldn't finish it's cycle. Set it for 45 minutes and it would stop at 10 or so. A couple of times it wouldn't start at all.
Whirlpool offered us an extended warranty and when we tried to renew it, they wouldn't let us. They wouldn't give us a price on the warranty because I think they new they had a problem and didn't want to have to pay for it. We won't buy Whirlpool again. I am looking at Kenmore next time.
So far no damage has occured. If the dryer breaks down again though, we will incur all charges. Whirlpool won't renew the extended warranty on either machine.

on January 15th 2003 I purchased a new calypso washer and dryer from my local appliance store. I was excited about the purchase of my new set. I read it was the best on the market at that time. Since then, my dryer shorted out and I had to have a new circuit board. Whirlpool warranted that but not the service since it was out of warranty. All along I have complained about the dryer does not dry completely in the normal settings, but it will in the time cycle.
Now, just the day before yesterday my calypso washer quit on me. It will not pump the water out and all along it has been making a lot of racket when it does work. The machine does not clean clothes well, they always smell soured. Whirlpool says they will not warrant the machine, but will send a tech out at my expense to look at it. I continued to ask her please send me a new washer and dryer, but all she told me was the only way they would do that is if the machines were unfixable. But, they intend to try to fix them so they can break down again.
The washer leaked water on my new floor in my kitchen and I may have to replace it at my cost, also I am without my washer now till someones looks at it again. All I want is a new washer and dryer to replace my old ones. I told Whirlpool this morning I wish I could sell my Whirlpool stove and refrigerator and purchase a good product.

Bought a top of the line Whirlpool Cabrio washer and gas dryer for $2000 in January of 2007 from Lowe's. It had digital controls, and no agitator in the washer, the very highest model. Thankfully, I just sold it on Craigslist for half of what I paid for it. It works, it is not broken, the only thing is IT DOES NOT CLEAN CLOTHES. This entire high efficiency is just a huge problem. Ninety percent of the posts on this site are for HE washers.
So I bought a 3 year old Whirlpool on Craigslist, one that actually fills up with water -- really, how can you clean clothes without water? In the Cabrio they would just swirl around in soapy water that barely covered them. After 18 months, we are all starting to smell like BO, and that NEVER happened before. Sheets smell, shirts smell. Even though we use the same water and detergent. All those controls and I always used the same setting so the clothes were not twisted apart. And the dryer either baked the clothes or left them wet.
Take my advice, skip the fancy new machine, and get one made before the low water mandates became standard in January 2007.

I own a Whirlpool top loaded-model #LSW0245EQ. I purchased it Nov. 1999. For the last year I noticed spots on my laundry but did not connect this with the washer. Recently, I realized that these spots were RUST! I inspected the machine and found rust on and under the rim. The enamel is flaky and rusted and drips into the basket below. The biggest irritation is that this Whirlpool washer was designed by Whirlpool to help the environment by saving water. It was advertized as The Resource Saver.
My frustration with the rust problem is that this machine has never needed a repair and works beautifully BUT it now needs to be replaced and will end up in a LANDFILL due to Whirlpools poor quality on the enamel of this model. So, how did it really help the environment? It really didn't because the machine still had many years of use except for it's rusting problem. Had Whirlpool made sure that these machines did not rust--the washer would have continued to perform for many years. I called Whirlpool to ask if they would replace only the top part that is rusting and they said, No.
I believe that companies like Whirlpool who put out products that have to be dumped into landfills due to rusting only need to be held accountable. The damage is that I have had clothing, bedding I cannot get clean from the rust and will be thrown out--more landfill! Now I have to buy a new machine--and this Whirlpool works perfectly fine--except for the rust. I have had other washers and dryers that have never had this problem but they were from other companies--not Whirlpool.

I purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio washer less than 1 year ago. In the first 6 months, the pump failed because loose change got into it and blew a hole in the pump. Water began to flow out onto my basement floor. We replaced the part ($75.00) and the dealer said it was happening quite a bit with this model. So much that they were thinking of recalling it. Now, 7 months later, the same thing has happened again.
Change is not prohibited from leaving the drum and entering the pump and then blowing a hole in the pump which renders it useless and water then gushes out of the pump. I contacted Whirlpool and they told me they could help me. That I would have to pay for a service repairmen to come out and fix it. It appears that I will have to invest up to $150 a year into my $1000 washer every time this happens. We try very hard to remove money from pockets, etc. But unfortunately it happens sometimes and eventually it accumulates resulting in this pump problem. This product was not engineered properly and Whirlpool refused to stand behind their product.

Most cycles run for an hour or more which in my opinion use more electricity, only less water. Your cloths may get wet but if you put a blanket in there I do not believe the center will get clean since it uses very little water and the machine only rolls the cloths which mainly clean the outer cloths if any at all. This is an energy saving scam if I ever seen one. This was the biggest mistake I have ever made concerning buying an appliance.

We purchased all of our applicances from from Sears 4 years ago (new construction) including the Calypso washer and dryer, thank goodness we purchased the extended warranty on all, as Sears has been out numerous times to repair all the applicances, but my main complaint is the Calypso Washer.
In January 08, Sears replaced the pump only after they forced us to sign a waiver before they would even touch it, because my washing machine sits in a drain pan and they didn't install the drain pan. However, they installed the washer in the existing drain pan upon delivery and installation! We signed the waiver (I need my washer) and the tech destroyed the drain pan and damaged my floor, basically she forced me to give her permission to do so.
February 08 the extended warranty expired, June 08 the pump quit working again and Sears only warrantys part replacement for 90 days. BTW - the previous Whirlpool calypso model and Sears Kenmore had a class action suit against them. Sounds like the newer models owners should do the same. Sears techs even told us to get rid of it. Sears told us it would be a $70.00 service call fee, just to look at it and then probably $250.00 for a new pump (we are guessing it's the same problem, as it's behaving the same as before)
My husband and I decided to not dump any more money into the Calypso. I'm boycotting Sears. I purchased a new machine from Home Depot last night...wish me luck.

After the end of the second day he told me that there was yellow balls in the washer and that my kids must have put them there and that wouldn't be covered by the warranty. Turns out that these balls are part of the pressure lock system that tells the machine when to drain the water.
On the third day that he arrived he said I needed a new pump, which had to be ordered from the US as these machines have been discontinued. I waited another 3 weeks for the pump to arrive. Laundry is a mountain by now with 4 kids. Finally the new pump came and he installed it but we were still getting the LD error message. Finally I think he gave up and ordered me a new washer. They delivered it at the end of February, 5 weeks without a washer after spending $3800.00.
Then I moved in Dec of 2003 and by the summer of 2004 I had to replace the pump again (around a $70.00 item) but still under warranty. Another 4 weeks without a washer. In December of 2005 another pump had to be replaced. In December of 2007 the pump went again and this time it was not a $70.00 part as they changed the part and you can no longer just get the pump, you have to order the motor as well, a $230.00 part. By now the machine is no longer under warranty. Christmas time is not the time where I have an extra $230. plus a service mans fees. I can't pay anyone to learn about these machines especially since they have been discontinued.
So we changed the pump ourselves in March of 2008 when I had the extra money for the part. For Dec, Jan, Feb and part of March I had to go the the laundromat at a cost of $32.00 per week, and that was without any drying, then I would come home and spend a day and a half just drying the clothes. Now it is June of 2008 and my husband and I have moved the washer out to our front porch (good we don't have any neighbours) and we are taking it apart. The $230 pump is only 3 months old. Don'y ever buy one of these machines, there is a design flaw with them.

I got a brand new Whirlpool dishwasher and had it professionally installed. The dishwasher is used once every 5 or 6 days for our household dishes and pans. After 5 years the motor lower main bearing started seizing up. The motor shaft and bearing sleeve are too tight of a fit. The oil was in the reservoir. But I filled it further and directly oiled the shaft and bearing sleeve. This solved the problem for several months, when I had to re-oil the shaft and bearing. There is no way this bearing failure is due to normal wear.
Also the dishwasher is located in a cool, well ventilated cabinet area, so there wasn't any overheating. I even made more ventilation holes on the base panel just to be safe, after the first time repairing. This repair would have financially rendered the dishwasher junk if I had to rely on a service technician to do it. I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance again. Their quality has really slipped in the last 10 years, not just with dishwashers, but with refrigerators also.
My time, which could have been better spent otherwise.

I bought the washer/dryer set (Calypso by Whirlpool) four years ago. When I first received them the dryer had numerous issues with the circuit board. The set was still under warranty and the dryer was a floor model so I let it go.
The set cost my husband and I almost $2,000, and two days ago the washer stopped working. Granted it has been four years, but I was not aware of the issues with this set until I looked it up today. I feel some kind of recall should have been made since they are less than high end. In addition I cannot find anyone foolish enough to take this set off of my hands (the reason I started researching). A bit dumb on my part to not research earlier, I agree. I am going back to the basic dial no frills washer and dryer, and I will never buy Whirlpool again.
Have to buy another washer at a very financially inconvenient time in my life.

My wife and I purchased a Calypso Washer and Dryer in Aug 2001. I purchased the extended warranty from the appliance store. Good thing. After about 2 months, the circuit board went out. Turns out there was a recall on it which the repairman said, but the store denied that there was.
The washer worked OK for a few years. Once it wouldn't complete the cycle and had a bad drain. It was fixed. Suddenly, strange streaky dark oil like stains showed up periodically on many white and lighter colored items and we couldn't figure out where it came from. Contacting Whirlpool was problematic and they were trying to say in so many words it was my fault.
Now that I'm reading these articles on the Internet about other people's problems, I realize that Whirlpool knew they had problems with their machines and probably told employees to basically ignore consumer complaints. The dryer needed a new heating element after about 5-6 years, but has worked OK. We have not had a mold problem to date, but lately, I have noticed that after large loads, it does smell somewhat moldy when the load is done. I only use the gentle cycle now on all loads. The washer is still working, but we are in the process of replacing it with a new one (not a Whirlpool). We will never buy another Whirlpool product.
We have had many clothes, socks and towels ruined by this washer. It has not helped that the service department of the appliance store is in another nearby state and prompt service are not words in their vocabulary. They only schedule service in our area 1 day per week (if that) and because of traffic, it can sometimes take them 2 hours to get to my home. The actual cost of time off from work to deal with the washer and the aggravation cannot be measured in $$..only in stress. I would say that both my wife and I had to take at least 1 week of work time off in dealing with these repairs.

My new Cabrio Washing machine is using double the amount of water as shown. After confirming with Whirlpool, Lowe's and A&E Service, the Cabrio is designed to be a low water using machine. It should use between 8-10 gallons per wash and rinse with the total usage being between 16-20 gallons. My washing machine is using between 36-52 gallons per wash. I have physically taken the drain hose and drained all the water into large plastic tubs to hand measure with a gallon jug to confirm usage. We have had our water meter calibrated and it was shown correct. The county has come back and even replaced our outside meter twice and currently we have a builder (brand new) meter on the washing machine line so as to confirm the usage inside. I have contacted Whirlpool and they are not helping in any way other than to send another tech from A&E to see if there is anything else wrong but they only check that the machine is working.
I asked Whirlpool to have the machine replaced and they refused. I am within the 1 year of service date and have purchased an extended service plan as well.
When I spoke with Mason, the manager, he said that Customer Service Appeals was as high as I could go with speaking with someone so basically what he told me happens to be the last person I can speak with there. I disagree with that because I am sure there are a lot more people between him and the owner of the company.
I'm not a complaining person but this is completely unacceptable because the machine is not using what it is supposed to and in this day and age with the worry of wasted water, this should be a big concern.

First, it was a loose wire, then lint in the drain line (?) and now the drain pump, and the technician knows this without even coming to check the machine this time, or so he says.
I have called Whirpool and the service company and have been told it will be 5-7 days to order the parts. I was told these parts could not be overnighted bc this would be an additional charge, is this not why I paid for the extended warranty?

I bought a new stackable washer and dryer on line from Whirlpool Everyhome Partners because of a program whereby Whirlpool offered good discounts to employees and family members. The washer and dryer were delivered on October 8, 2007. Immediately there were problems with the washer. After the final spin cycle, there would be a puddle of water on the floor by the right front foot, probably 1/2 cup or so. Many times the door would fail to latch completely so the washer would stop in mid cycle. After much trial and error, I found that if i turned the right knob to stop, pushed on the latch HARD, and then re-set everything to the wash cycle i wanted, it would run. I am now in the habit of shutting the door VERY HARD to keep this from happening. Sometimes it still does.
But the big, frustrating problem is the leak. I have lost count of the times I have called Whirlpool, given them all the info once again, and then they put me on hold and call an area repair service. Please note that my in-town Whirlpool dealer refused to come out, saying they don't work on that type of machine because there's all kinds of problems.
The first repair man that I had came on November 2, 2007, spent quite a bit of time, told me he was ordering parts and never came again. I left many messages - one time I actually spoke to him and he said the parts were on backorder. I called Whirlpool on March 18, 2008 and was told parts were never ordered and they also left a message with him and he did not return it. Whirlpool contacted my in-town repair service who now agreed to come out and look at the machine. After three visits totaling probably 5 hours, the latest of which was yesterday, the washer still leaks and they can't figure out the problem and don't want to spend any more time on it because they are losing money. I don't blame them at all for not wanting to deal with it anymore.

When I asked Pacific Sales to replace the machine or give a refund so I could buy another machine, they pointed the finger at Whirlpool. Pacific Sales sold a defective product and would not take any responsibility to replace it and claimed Whirlpool would not take it back.
As a consumer, it was frustrating for Pacific Sales to be so negligent once a customer has purchased a product and not stand behind what they sold. They should have replaced the washing machine and taken it up with Whirlpool directly. Apparently, Best Buy purchased Pacific Sales and customer service is non-existent after a consumer has puchased a product. When I contacted Whirlpool customer service to complain and to voice my concerns about the volume of consumers who had the same problem, I was sent an email back advising me to find a service repair for the washing machine. I specifically asked if there was a recall and replacement program in place to address this concern, and Whirlpool did not even acknowledge my question.
I have not reapired the washing machine yet, and will call Whirlpool to see if they have changed their attitude about repairing the machine at their expense due to the rising number of complaints. I see that one consumer on a blog reported that Whirlpool actually replaced the faulty board at no expense to the consumer. We've had this washer not even 2 years, and it is costing us a lot of money to repair along with frustration. Our washer started leaking a considerable amount of water. We talked to Whirlpool and went on their site to find a service company that is backed by them. After 6 weeks, our washer is still not working - in fact, they came and got it after coming here 4 times replacing part after part after part. Still leaking. They only came to get it to all of the water leaks from the washer, the water penetrated through the floor and caused leaks from the floor of our second floor, to the ceiling of our first floor. The service company that we got through Whirlpool has given us poor service, and when they came to our home the first time, they leaned on the walls in our laundry room and they are black and won't come clean. We still don't have a washer; and after 3 weeks, WE CALLED THEM for an update, and they said they had to order yet another part. They told us this was going to be very expensive, and they've already sent us a bill for nearly $400.00 for parts and labor. AND now they tell us it wasn't the gasket, it wasn't the door latch, it wasn't the gasket the second time. NOW they say that the door is warped.
Each time they left after servicing our washer, they failed to put the washer back together all the way, but told us it was ready to go. This is not the only problem we've had with this washer. Laundry never smells clean, door gets jammed and locks on its' owns, some days the washer just won't start. You REALLY can't wash as much as they say you can unless you love your laundry all tied up in knots. The service company is trying to charge US for their misdiagnoses and blames it on Whirlpool. We're being charged for them to learn on our washer, and this is NOT fair. Whirlpool needs to recall this washer, and there needs to be a class action lawsuit. It is horrible to spend so much money on an appliance that you expect to keep for 15-20 years, but ends up costing more than you paid for after after just 2 years! How fair is that? And the service companies that are on Whirlpool's website as certified to work on their products, DO NOT know what they're doing--and it's all at the customer's expense. This is so, so wrong. After 6 weeks, we're still without our washer.
Black walls, wet tile floors, leaks from the floor in laundry room through the ceiling beneath it. This is our new home - only 8 months old.

The first repairman said that the parts needed would cost much more than the price of a new machine. Nevertheless, we got a call that the company would order the parts and fix the machine. A second crew unsuccessfully spent an afternoon trying to repair our machine. A & E Factory Repairs Services of Sears (located in Texas) basically ordered the entire machine in parts. When on the second visit, they failed to put all the parts together to get the machine operating, the service people unceremoniously departed, leaving a dangerous mess of new and used parts, some of them quite large, a few unopened, in our living room.
Now our machine can't work at all and our living room is a mess of parts that we don't know what to do with. We have not been able to get help from anyone at A&E which says that they need to order MORE parts that are on INDEFINITE backorder. Our warranty states that if our machine cant be repaired after three service calls, we could get a new one under the contracts no lemon Clause. A & E has avoided our ability to do this by being unreachable, by not providing us with fax or address of operation and not disclosing to Whirlpool that our machine is beyond repair.

I have heard from many people that they have the same problem. I want to know what Whirlpool plans to do to correct these problems or if they plan to recall these machines.

I purchased a Whirlpool washer for $408.63 on 3-10-07. On 11-19-07 I had service our for repairs, and they replaced the timer--though also stated at that time that the machine had a burning smell to it at various times. In Jan. of 2008, service came out again as we again stated the occasional burning smell. This time the motor was replaced which cost more than the actual cost of the machine in March of '07. This was just 8 months after purchasing this machine (very gently used, though it is a commercial grade capacity AND an energy start efficient machine). I'm beginning to wonder what the next problem might be. Of course, the warranty will be expired the next time, and it will undoubtedly will cost us instead of the manufacturer.
Can't ANY company make a product to last like they used to, for 20-30 years? Or should I rephrase that to say, Won't a company CHOOSE to manufacture a product that WILL last 10-20 years, and make the product with pieces other than cheap plastic that break in less than a year? I challenge some company to care enough about consumer spending to make products to last BECAUSE they CHOOSE to. We all know the technology is there, it's just that they CHOOSE to make sub-standard products for just the reason I mentioned. So WE the consumer begin to think it's NORMAL for a product to only last 1-3 years, and how LUCKY we are that it lasted that long. IT's NUTS the way these manufacturers suck the money out of consumers and don't stand behind their products. Just quote their warranty plans, or lack there of.

Purchased a Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer from Lowe's. Dryer has been fine, Washer...everything started smelling like Body Order AFTER it was washed. Moldy smell on everything, especially towels. 3 trips from Lowe's authorized repairmen and it still smells. We found moldy gunk built up under the agitator, but can't get to it (neither can repairman) then it started snagging and tearing up the towels. Finally, the front control board cracked and now we get f11, which means more trips from repairmen who can't do anything to fix it. Looks like Whirlpool's planned obsolence is back and in force. Is there any Federal agency looking into this company's success at producing these machines?
We're out $1000 for a washer that washes in moldy smell and potentially mold problems in our house.

The Calypso Washing machine developed a problem of draining the water. Being a do-it-yourselfer, I turned it over, removed the pump and found that 'clothes debris' was stuck in the impeller. The design of the pump was such that made it impossible to remove such matter making it a 'disposable item'. I put in a new pump. The replacement pump was was not OEM and a much better design; it is serviceable. Another problem: clothes getting holes after washing. We have determined that it is the washer. The 'calypso action' bottom that rocks, has a 'gasket' that is not continuous around the edge of it.
At the point where the 2 ends meet there is a gap. During the 'action' these ends act more like teeth and clothes get caught, pinched, and holes created by this very poor design. It has developed a new problem lately. Now it does not complete the wash cycle and keeps displaying C1, beeps and stops. Needless to say, the clothes are not getting clean. I should have bought a used washer or picked one up off the street that was ready for the garbage truck; I would have been happier with it!
the cost of the new pump was $150, the price or ruined clothes via holes is over $200, and now that it is not cleaning good, priceless!!?!?

I purchased the Calypso Washer and Dryer on August 17, 2006 (that is LESS THAN 2 years ago). Within the first year (approximately 9 months), the circuit board on the dryer went. I called the store where I bought it, and they put me in touch with who does the warranty work. He did replace it, and within 3 months (and a couple of days) of my warranty expiring, I still have trouble with the dryer not completing the dry cycle. I can put it on 23 minutes to dry, and it will dry for about 5-8 minutes, then stop. And no, I didn't purchase the extended warranty, I figured that is why they're so expensive - they must be top of the line, huh? Why should I spend another couple of hundred dollars just to make sure? What a racket!
Today, we got up to water on the floor. The washer isn't draining. And better yet, we can't just pop the agitator off to see if there is lint or a sock, etc. clogging it - bet we've got to have a special tool? This is the bottom line. I will never buy another Whirlpool product again. I will continue to pay on a washer and dryer that is bad, because, well, what choice do I have. BUT the thing I CAN do is make sure I share my experiences with everyone I run into. Let them know the good ol' $300 knob washers will outlast Whirlpool's new and improved $800+ machines! My youngest son and his wife, are building a new home. Guess which product they won't buy? The $300 machine I bought (wasn't a Whirlpool) back in '91, managed to work fine through numerous wash loads a day, with children in the home, times 10+ years. Now the expensive washer can't make it 3 loads a week with 2 adults for 18 months.
I still owe approximately $1100 on the washer and dryer. I can't afford to have it fixed, because I can't afford to stay home and wait for the repairman, let alone have the money to PAY the repairman.

I even paid ethe xtended warranty for the, but 3 visits from the service guy and still nothing has solved the problem. First they told me it was a leveling issue. He adjusted the bolts at the bottom of the machine to make the machine tilt a little more to the back. Then, I was told not to overload. Since July, 2004 we have had to call the repair men FOUR TIMES to repair our Calypso washer. It seems to break whenever there is an urgent need for clean clothes and approximately every 6 months. I am beginning to think it has an agenda of some kind... Anyway, everytime it's stopped working we get the Ld code that flashes quickly and then nothing. Because my husband is a good negotiator we've only had to pay for partial repairs but, considering the cost of the machine, that's still unacceptable.
Four new pumps later, the machine is currently broken, with a heavy wet load inside, and we are leaving on vacation in two days. It's the weekend and WP isn't open on the weekends so it will be a week or more before we can call and complain. It usually takes several weeks anyway to fix the machine and, with a household full of dirty clothing makers, that's quit a pain in the butt.

I have had the Caplsyo washing machine for 1 1/2 yrs. We just now noticed that it was leaking. After more investigating I noticed that the water from the washing machine had done serious damage to the cabinet next to my washing machine. Since we did not buy the extended service contract we have to get it fix ourselves. Now we have have to get our cabinet fixed -- this leak had to of been going on for an extended period of time to have that much damage due to the fact my house is only 4 yrs old. I have to say for as much as we paid for the product it is a piece of junk.

We purchased the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer in May 2004. Since purchasing, we have had to replace the rubber gasket in the washer and the heating element in the dryer. Now we have found that the inner bearing in the washer has seized and caused the shaft to erode approximately 3/8. The shaft is also rusted.
Since there was only a one year warranty on these items, we are now unable to have this problem fixed without paying at least $400 for the parts alone. We paid $999 for the washer and $799 for the dryer.

Bought my Calypso Washer Model GVW9959KQO S/N CL2919381 on 10/09/01. Back in Jan '07 the material I was washing got stuck between the plate and the drum and I was unable to pull it out. GGSL Appliance Repair replaced the plate on 1/16/07 with a 60 day warranty. On 4/8/07 the same thing happened I re-washed (5 times) happened every time until finally I gave up. Luckily I was able to pull the sheets out.
I called GGSL advised them of the problem and he (Gary) aked me what I was washing I told him bed sheets. He said it will always happen since the material is so thin it will go between the plate and the drum and I should not wash bed sheets. Told him what should I do with my sheets and why did they not tell me that when I purchased the machine. He had no answer but indicated that there might be something else wrong and he has to see it. Scheduled an appointment for Friday, 4/13/07.

A little bit over 2 years ago we bought a Whirlpool Washer, Model No. LH0050PQ. It's a front loader and as long as it worked, which was not quite a year, I loved my washing machine. The first time it broke down it nearly burned up because the wiring was done all wrong and the electrical panel melted away. Here we are, 5 months later and again, the washing machine doesn't work.
So, two weeks ago we called our technician, he came out, told a technical support system, that may or may not be connected to Whirlpool (haven't figured that one out yet), what the machine does and doesn't do and here we are, and nobody seems to know what the problem is.
The Whirlpool customer support department tells me that they went above and beyond their obligations due to the fact that our machine is no longer under warranty. In the last two years I went 3 times a week for 6 weeks to the laundromat spending over $ 200.00. (well Whirlpool is supposed to send me a $ 50.00 check to help me with my expenses and they are willing to extend my repair contract or whatever it is called for another 30 days - isn't that just too gracious of them, it brings tears to my eyes)but,in the meantime I'm still sitting here without a washing machine and what if, after they all might figure out what's wrong with this machine, two months from now it will break again?
Are they going to be willing to extend my repair contract again? Do I have to go to the laundromat again for like 3 weeks in a row because they can't figure this machine out?
I'm not going to call Whirlpool again, if I have to listen to the I'm sorry for your inconvenience speech one more time, they might as well put me in a straight jacket!!

The dishwasher takes 3 hours to complete the cycle. Whirlpool sent their four appliance repair shops to fix the problem. Not only did it still take 3 hours, they each told me before I start it, I should run the water until it gets hot. Which isn't exactly energy effecient. Three outside appliance repair shops never heard of such a thing.

We bought the Whirlpool Duet Washer and dryer based on the excellent Consumer Reports recomendation. In 2 1/2 years we have replaced the door latch mechanism 4 times and the latch once due to the violent spin cycle. by the 4th time it seems thst they beefed up the mechanism so now the plastic latch on the door is the weak point and that broke. I replace it and one day later the mechanism is broken for the 5th time.
We had it fixed twice while it was under warranty. We've spent hundreds on parts and service. I've resorted to replacing the parts myself but I think it's time to give up. Unfortunately we have the stackable dryer which likely would not match up to a new washer, so it's a double loss.

In March 2006 I purchased a very expensive Whirlpool Duet washing machine. I moved into my new home and started using the machine in May. Today, on November 29, 2006 I washed a load of delicate clothes (a small load) only to hear water gushing all over my laundry room floor. It took me an hour to clean the floor, an hour to wring the clothes out and it took the Whirlpool dryer also purchased at the time over two hours to dry them. A pair of nice pants and a blouse was ruined of course and will never be useful again.
I called Lowe's where the washer was purchased who gave me a list of three Whirlpool dealers who would come out and service the machine since obviously it was under warranty. To my surprise after calling the Whirlpool dealers the first appointment is six days from now. I called Lowe's and the manager said Oh Well, Lowe's didn't make it, and that is how it has ended.

We reported a problem with stackable washer/dryer model YLTE6234DQ5 where the dryer will not shut off in either of two automatic cycles (normal or delicate). A service repairman (Matthew from Best Rate Applicances in BC) came twice and said that the dryer should not be used in auto cycle, use only in timed cycle. The timed cycle does not offer delicate setting. The repairman said that he has contacted Whirlpool techline many times for many different owners and he has been unable to get any remedy or resolution from Whirlpool. Unit has CSA ratings for voltages 208 and 240 Volt operation. Our voltage in condo building was measured at 204 volts, which is near perfect. We would like the unit replaced with another model that will work properly in all cycles.
Our clothing was damaged during an automatic cylce which ran for 6 hours while unattended. The clothes were scorched. This issue also presents a potential fire hazard to the building.

We purchased a Whirlpool Elite Sport front-loading wash machine in August. Since then, we've had four visits from Whirlpool authorized technicians, trying to get it to stop banging, vibrating, shaking, and actually walking across the floor. Each of them was unable to fix the problem, and each of them said that we'd have to live with it, that was simply how the washer was made. I even tried industrial anti-vibration pads under each leg; it didn't work. The floor shakes enough to make flowers move on a table in the kitchen.
Whirlpool advertises that this machine has a new six-point suspension system that eliminates vibration and makes it suitable for use on a first floor. This claim has been accepted at face value by some popular magazines. It's a lie. Every repair person told me that this machine is only quiet and stable on a cement basement floor.
