Add yet another set of very unhappy and disgusted customers to the list of those who purchased the horribly overpriced Whirlpool Cabrio Washer!
Our $900 machine, only about three years old, has had 19 service calls to 'fix' it. Items replaced to date: 2 touch pads, 3 sets of door locks, 2 computer boards, 2 lids, 1 pump, 1 wiring loom, 1 set of hinges. Now the 'top tank' (rim of top opening) is almost rusted through. Although Whirlpool says, "That's okay because it's only cosmetic!" No amount of discussion with Whirlpool has resulted in any satisfactory agreement with regard to the replacement of this ridiculously inferior piece. However they have magnanimously offered to send us a new one for a mere $671.
The Calypso, the very similar predecessor to the Cabrio, had a class action lawsuit because it was so defective. Now it's time for the Cabrio to have one as well. It has really earned it!

I brought Whirlpool Whitemagic Pro / 7.0 kg F.A. WM 700h on July 3 2010 from G-MART Edappally. After washing 6 times within two weeks, it began to show constant DL, LE codes. I've called Whirlpool about this issue three times. For each complaint, the technician replaced some parts in it, but in vain. Fed up with this, I called the Whirlpool Area Manager, I was told that since it's a minor issue, they won't replace it but they will repair it. So I contacted the dealer, G-MART, and they said replacement would come within two working days.
Now it's one month after the request and in spite of my numerous phone calls, hours on hold, old machine is still at home. I brought this machine thinking that Whirlpool was a trustworthy company, but that has proved to not be true. The daily frustration I feel while using this crippled Whirlpool Whitemagic Pro / 7.0 kg F.A. WM 700h is enormous. I am furious! Save money, save your energy, save your time. Don't buy Whirlpool Whitemagic!

I bought a washer and dryer less than 4 years ago. After 2 years the digital display board broke on the washer and had to be repaired at $450.00. Now in a little over a year the washer is leaking water. I called Whirlpool to see if they are recalling this model no such luck! Also makes horrible loud noise when spinning and twists and tears my clothes.

I knew after the first wash that I had made a huge mistake in buying this Cabrio washer. It did not clean a small load of white clothing, even with the normal amount of laundry soap and bleach. I immediately called Warehouse Discount Center and said for them to come and get it and I would eat the 25% re-stocking fee. They said since it was used once, it was "used" and they couldn't take it back. I said I'd call Whirlpool and they said Whirlpool wouldn't take it back either. When I bought this machine, the salesman showed me how high-ranking it was in Consumer Reports. Ha! What a joke. I will never, ever buy a Whirlpool again (which I have done for decades!). I want to join a class action lawsuit. The daily frustration I feel while using this Cabrio is enormous. I am furious!

I brought a Whirlpool Cabrio washer and it has not worked for 30 days at a time. The mother board has went out at least 3 times and now the balancer does not work. It will not spend the clothes out without constantly being off balanced. I brought this machine thinking that Whirlpool was a trustworthy company, but that has proved not to be true. If you would go the site of Whirlpool, there are complaints and you would see that a lot of people have the same complaint as do I. Something should be done about it. To be exact I have lost several hundreds of dollars. I have spent a total of $595.79, not including the amount it cost to do laundry at the laundry-mat for 5 people.

My two year old Cabrio washer is making loud mechanical noise when spinning. After reading the pages on Consumer Affairs website, I called Whirlpool (800-442-1111). Karen, wouldn't provide last name, told me she had never heard of the problem. I asked her if she ever looked at the CA web site? "No we only know what consumers report," she replied. I asked to have the address or a management contact. She refused to give me one. I was reading her 'queue' card and kept repeating that my washer was out of warranty. If I wasn't angry when I called, I sure was with her canned don't give a damn attitude. I realize she does what Whirlpool tells her.

I am complaining against my Cabrio (Model: WTW6200SW0) washer's constant UL and LF codes. I have called Whirlpool about this issue twice already and since the washer is almost four-years old, they refused to do anything about this, even though I have explained that there are 100's of complaints out there with this problem. They did give me numbers of service people in the area to call. How gracious of them! I am in for a class action lawsuit if there are enough people to do so. The horror stories online about their customer service and repair people is understandable. They need to stand behind their products, especially when it isn't an isolated incident.

We purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and Dryer from Lowe’s approximately 2.5 years ago. Suddenly, within the last month, the washer was making loud noises during a spin cycle, and the computer board was malfunctioning. We called the number on the lid to set up a service appointment, with A&E service. Upon the technician's diagnosis, the entire drum/rotor would need replacement for $400, and eventually the machine would have problems and display an F1 code.
I have seen no recall for the machine, and online, several people have had the same exact problem. Why is Whirlpool not taking responsibility for their mistakes?

I purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and Dryer three years ago. It has truly been a disappointing experience. I wash everything on delicate as otherwise, the close spin so fast and are so wrung out that they are almost permanently wrinkled. I had the repairman out twice when the machines were under warranty to fix the washing machine. I recently kept getting a F1 error code.
I called Conn's where I purchased the machine and they informed me the machine is out of warranty and they don't repair machines out of warranty. I called a reputable repair shop here in Austin and was told they refuse to repair the Cabrio because it has so many, many problems. They referred me to a person who does. He followed the Whirlpool instructions about how the hose out of the back from the mother board gets crimped.
He fixed it. He told me if that doesn't work, the mother board will have to be replaced. I am getting ready to call him back to let him know I am still getting the F1 error code. The machine stops completely when this happens. This has truly been the worst purchase I have ever made in an appliance. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting Whirlpool to make good on their product?

I purchased a Whirlpool washer, MN WTW57ESVW1, on September 18, 2009, from Lowe's Home Improvement on Airline Rd. in Corpus Christi, Texas. The same part, which is the water sensor, has broken four times, beginning in December of 2009, then again in March of 2010, May of 2010 and August of 2010. Every time this has happened, the machine won't fill with water. I called the number. I am told that since it didn't break down within 30 days of purchase, they won't replace it but they will repair it. I have had a Whirlpool representative ask me what I wanted him to do about the washer and I told him to come get it and replace it but they refuse to do that.
I have to schedule an appointment with the repair service, take time off from work to be at home when they come and am without a washer for the time from the break down to the time of repair. The first two times it broke down, I was without a washer for a total of about three weeks because the part was back ordered because it was breaking on all the washers. Lowe's actually found the part and sent it to me the second time but the repair service found the part around the same time and I let them use their part.
It is a $400 washer and Whirlpool has spent at least that much in time, money and repairs. Obviously the machine is a lemon but they refused to replace it. I don't understand that corporate mentality. Today, their representative told me that if it broke again, which would be no. 5, they would send it up for review. The last representative told me when it broke the 3rd time that if it broke again, they would send it up for review. They don't have a "policy" per se about if or when to replace a lemon.
I know that I will never purchase another Whirlpool product of any kind and everyone who knows me will never purchase a Whirlpool product either. In the 11+ months I have had the washer, it has not worked for approximately five weeks. Numerous phone calls, hours on hold, four days off of work to wait for repairman, trips to go do laundry at other places, but mostly irritation with Whirlpool and their representatives.

I bought a washer and dryer set four years ago. A day after the warranty expired, the heating element went out. I paid $125 to have it fixed. A month later, the pump on the washer started leaking, $100 repair. Five months later, dryer started making weird noises and the drum started to separate from the unit. The dryer from the day I bought it never dried as it should. This was our first appliance purchase as a married couple and we spent over $700 for the set. It should last longer than four years.

I bought the Cabrio Washer at Lowes May '07. Three years later I have balling of clothes so tight I have to fight to pull my clothes out of the machine, terrible. The last half hour of the spin cycle sounds like a turbo charged jet engine, very disappointing for a $900.00 plus washer that was recommended by Consumer Reports! I just canceled my repair service for tomorrow after reading all the disappointing reviews of service because spending $300 or $400 dollars to fix this is criminal! Please, a class action lawsuit is needed. $1000.00 dollars down the drain. Whirlpool knows this machine is faulty! It’s very dishonest to not stand by their product.

I am seeing that there are a lot of consumers that all have problems at the 3 year mark as me. I bought a brand new Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and Dryer from Sears just 3 years ago. During this time the dryer motor went out and had to be replaced at a cost of $450 and now the washer has had a bad bearing, new washtub and now they tell me it needs a new board and pump. In the past 3 weeks I have spent around $900, which is more than what a new one costs me. I contacted Whirlpool's A&E service group to do the repairs thinking that their own repair organization would know how to fix things, boy was I wrong. They came out twice to fix the washer and after they left, it would not even finish one load before is stopped again. Had I known this, I would have thrown it away and bought another brand of washer before dumping more money.
When I called Whirlpool to see if they would at least be willing to give me free parts, they said sorry your machine is more than 1 year old so it is out of warranty. I have had three homes and each one has had washer and dryers in it. They have all lasted 12 to 15 years, this is the first time I bought Whirlpool and it will be the last. If there are any attorneys out there reading these messages, call me and let me know about filing a class action lawsuit against Whirlpool. There is no reason why these appliances should fail after just 36 months. They cost $1,000 each and should last accordingly. I am going to make sure that all of my friends, colleagues, coworkers and anyone else who will listen know what poor quality and customer service Whirlpool has to offer. If I ran my company like this I would have been out of business a long time ago.

The parts are a control board and stator. I keep getting the runaround between Whirlpool customer service and from Lowe's authorized technicians service (A&E Factory Service). That is who I have my extended warranty with. I purchased my machine on June 2007. This is the first time I've had a serious problem with it. I don't understand why they tell me that they can't find the parts! Is the machine no longer being made? Then, replace my machine! It's not the customer's fault Whirlpool can't find the parts. In the meantime, I'm spending money at the Laundromat on washing clothes for a family of five!

I bought a Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer in 12-08 from my local Sears store. In 7-09, I started getting an LD code and my washer just quit working. I called Sears because it was still under warranty. They had someone there within 3 days to fix it and it turned out to be a drain pump. The guy told me a grain of sand can break the pump (it’s all plastic). On 6-10, I started getting the same code after my washer started leaking a lot. I called Sears again because I had bought the extended warranty. The lady told me that it was the main circuit board; I told her it was a drain pump last time it was doing the same thing. She said she ordered the board for me and set me up an appointment about 3 weeks out. When that date came around, they called to reschedule because they had sent the part to my mom's PO Box so UPS wouldn't deliver it.
To make a long story short, I spent a total of 4 hours on the phone with various customer service people, I was hung up on, talked rudely to, and I told them at least 10 times to change my address so I could get the part, which they never did. It took them 3 months to come out and fix it, and it was the drain pump, again. I spent hundreds of dollars on rent fees for another washer to do my kids' clothes. I was so stressed out from calling Sears, many times getting the run-around and fighting with customer service. I had several bags of clothes that were wet from the leaking washer that sat for 3 months until I got my washer fixed and were eaten by crickets and moldy, so I had to throw them away

In April 2007, we purchased a Cabrio washer. Yes, we did the research before spending $1000 on a washer. It wont finish the cycle and is always unbalanced even if you take everything out! Last night, I dealt with it for 3 hours and enough was enough, we should have to find out at 11:30 at night that it hasn't finished the cycle that was started 5 hours earlier and so the laundry was put into the drier really wet on some occasions, i have been able to use the drain and spin but recently even that quit working.
I tried to start another load and the I got the door won't lock code after removing blankets found a plastic square in bottom. Great, now the damn thing, I'd be chucking small parts! I called Whirlpool 2 times today and told them the problem and all I got was a chirpy woman telling me how sorry they were that I had a problem but i should of bought the extended warranty!!! how can you afford another $200+ for a warranty when you just spent a grand on a washer???? called best buy and they won't do anything to help with Whirlpool and several repair people called me back and won't touch it!
Go buy a new washer you'll be money a head! I have a new washer and it's a piece of junk and my husband can't even haul it across the scale and get anything as weight because it is coated metal so they take them for free and say they are doing you a favor! Whirlpool Cabrio is a piece of unnecessary equipment that one doesn't need in their laundry room or where ever the wash is done. Don't like the fact that our GVT. is involved in washing my clothes. The amt. of water used to wash clothes is a thimble full for what I call a normal load of laundry and I do not abuse the washer. The time allotted for the clothes to be washed is a day and a half (74) minutes to be exact. What washer should take that long. I sent it back before the 30days were up and bought a second hand( 2yr old)simple to use washer (GE )from a repair shop for a great deal less than the new one , with 120 day guarantee return if I don't like it or something goes amiss.
As a consumer I'd love to have a Maytag made in the USA but know that isn't possible any longer. So if Whirlpool would contact people who do the laundry instead the GVT, maybe the return rate wouldn't be as great. I know all of the jibberish the sales people are telling me about saving water and electricity. How about turning some lights off that are not used at nights in our huge business building?

The problem is not with the seller (Great Indoors) but with the product. The washer was installed on 8/18/10. After the first load, we noticed a small amount of water near the front left leg. Thinking we may have spilled the water, the following day we ran three loads: a small one and two large ones. The unit leaked on the two large loads. Furthermore, we noticed stains on the sheets we washed. The leak has been reported in several blogs, but we figured that Whirlpool would have fixed the problem. Now, we also have a Whirlpool disher, brand new, and we have had a previous one that also didn't clean well. The agent at Olums Furniture told us that it might be leaving food on the dishes because we are not supposed to pre-rinse first. The Whirlpool Cabrio is the absolute worst washing machine ever built. I'd rather have a bucket and washboard! A few years ago, I spent a lot of money ($1000) on this Cabrio piece of junk from Whirlpool. It will not stay balanced, regardless of the size of load. I get the "F" code often. I get the "uL" (out of balance) code. And, I get a bunch of other codes. I can get it fixed for about half the price of the original machine -- great deal, huh? It has cost me about 4 times the amount of electricity and water than any other washing machine because of the need to repeat the cycles from where it left off at the time of the error code.
The Cabrio is garbage and Whirlpool will do nothing about it because they are obviously not concerned with customer service, fixing their defective machines, or selling quality products. Because of the rotten service, total lack of support, and extreme costs associated with this machine (initial costs, water and electricity), I will never buy another Whirlpool product and will continue to advise all my friends and family to stay away from Whirlpool products! I am interested in a class-action lawsuit against Whirlpool and would gladly join as a plaintiff on any legal actions against Whirlpool concerning the Cabrio washing machine!

The catch on dryer door had also fallen out requiring me to change the orientation of the door to make it work. Then in April of 2010, I disconnected the washer and turned the water off to it, just like the manual said because I would not be using it for awhile. It is in my house and I left the air-conditioner on.
When I came back at the end of May 2010, and hooked the washer back up, it would not run. Every time I try to run it, it gets to the wash cycle, it drains. After it drains, it flashes "oL", indicating that it is overloaded. It does it no matter what is in the tub. I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance. I had bought a Whirlpool freezer about 6 months before I bought the washer and dryer, and it went out when it was just over a year old. I ruined two shirts and some towels because of this. I called Whirlpool and they said I needed a service man to come in, that it is internal. I explained I just got the washer, used it maybe 3 times, and it is brand new. They did not care. They said I needed it to be serviced.
They were very nasty with me. I said I would return the washer and dryer then to Lowe's and they said, “Then do that.” Why would I service a brand new washer I just bought? This is not for litigation. Lowe's is taking care of it. I just wanted to complain about Whirlpool who doesn’t care about their customers. Now I have to bring it down a flight of stairs, travel an hour to get to Lowe's, and then have to order a new one. My complaint is against Whirlpool for the aggravation. What? I just spent over $700 on this over 2 years ago. I am still using it and I get a "work-out" every Monday mornings (day- I do laundry. ) I have to reset and reset and reset and move around the close and turn the adjetator etc. every load, then sometimes resetting if it doesn't work so I have to drain the water and rinse and drain the load or drain and spin. I love it when it takes me 6 hours to wash 4 loads.

I have never had all the electronic problems with the washer that others are reporting. I bought it three years ago and have had no issues with it. It is not, however, a good product. Because it is an HE washer, it uses very little water and I believe this is why it simply does not clean clothes well. We have four dogs with the resulting hair and it washes very little hair out of clothing, bedding, etc. We have to run it through several cycles to get the hair off enough to allow the dryer to handle the rest. I'm very disappointed with the product. If we could adjust it so that it adds more water to the tub, I think this would fix our issues. Whirlpool states that it isn't possible to change the water levels. We spent $1800 on the washer and dryer combo. We'd have been better off with a much cheaper washer.

It was told to me that they cannot tell that how much time is needed to repair. Since washing machine is an essential item, purchase of the same was made from a reputed company like M/S Whirlpool. This machine is still under warranty. Game including Whirlpool, are just passing the bucket, doing nothing about the matter and I told the technicians that the machine are very noisy too. We purchased the Cabrio washer in 2007, and the first pump problem appeared just shy of one year, while it was covered under warranty. Whirlpool said it was from the detergent I used (I used the HX2). The tech said it was from change and things getting sucked down and not being able to retrieve them. The second pump went almost exactly a year later in 2009, and the third pump went almost exactly a year later, two months ago (2010). We are paying for the new pumps, and luckily my husband can install them.
There is definitely a flaw in the manufacture of this machine. There should be a strainer of sorts to prevent items from getting to the pump. I'm not sure what we are doing next, but we would not buy another Whirlpool item. We are paying for the new pumps (we are replacing both each time). We are having to take our laundry to a laundromat. Articles of clothing are being destroyed, ripped, pulled, and such into the bottom of the machine. Time, so much of our time - so much of our energy.

I received numerous offers to extended my warranty throughout 2009. I must have received 15 offers within 10 months however do to the economy, I could not afford to extend my warranty for another year as I did not have the money. Well, sure enough, almost to the day, 1 year after my extended warranty, my machine breaks!
I call for service and the part was $499 and labor come to $700 to fix my "3" year old washer, which is ridiculous. While researching on the computer, this model, the Cabrio, is a lemon. Numerous complainants, problems etc. and Whirlpool knew this, thus, offering to extend my warranty. I think something should be done about this company. I am appalled that a $700 washing machine lasted me only 3 years. I am now without a machine. I do not have $700 to fix my machine nor purchase a new one for $700+.

I continue to get an error code F51. It used to come on just during the washer cycle, now it comes on when turning the washer on, which results in having to turn the washer completely off and try again to start. This usually takes about 3 times. If it makes it through this, you still get the error code during the cycle, which when the code comes on the cycle stops, and you have to rearrange and hope it works. That may last a few minutes before you have to do it again. Usually, you have to shut off the washer, let it drain, then put it through the drain and spin cycle and hope it makes it through that. It odes this no matter the washer load size, sheets or one pair of panties its the same.
I have already spent over $300 in the first year to have it fixed. Whirlpool will not acknowledge there is a problem with these washers but are more than happy to help you schedule a repairman and your personal request at least that was the way it was the first time I called. After that, you are on your own. I am a single mother of 2 boys, one of which is handicapped. I do not have the financial resources to fix this piece of junk, but have to come up with the money because I have to be able to wash my sons clothing, etc. This next repair bill will be about another $300, if I do the work myself, that is just for the parts.

This has been the worst product, thus far, that we have purchased. All I can say that it is junk. I am now on the third mother board which was installed yesterday and the machine is still throwing messages to me which now is "OL." How can a machine be overloaded with two items in it? It goes from filling up to spin with soapy clothes which were never washed and when all is done, the clothes are still soaking! This machine is not used a lot. I would hate to think of a family with small children because it would never make it! I have had washing machines 15 years with no service calls and this one is not even 4 years old! We purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer-- supposedly the latest in energy and water saving. When clothes began to come out torn and damaged i.e. underwire bras mangled beyond repair, pockets on pants ripped shirts twisted to the point of shredding, we allowed the washer to fill and then checked it level. The water level was so minuscule that the clothes were mangled. Because of this wringing, the clothes were majorly wrinkled. Onto the dryer... We were advised by our sales rep at Appliance Smart that the heat sensors in these dryers cause us not to be able to use the dryer sheets because they cause a film to build up on the sensor and it stops working. So no dryer sheets and twisted, mangled clothes makes for very wrinkled clothing and lots of ironing.
More work, more cost to replace expensive clothing not to mention the emotional trauma of favorite items being ruined all add up to "try again Whirlpool..." When I contacted the service rep she was rude and detached in offering any sort of a solution other than to suggest having a repair person come and check the unit. What else can they tell me? It runs but it's operative functions are dismal at best? I just want to return them and get myself something that is worthy of the money and the job. Simple enough to me. What happens to the customer is always right in business?

We purchased a Cabrio Washer in July of 2009 from Sears along with a 5-year extended warranty. Since the purchase, there have been several times that we get error messages that tell us it is too full when it is not (only a couple items like a delicate load) and it shuts down on us. We have had to turn the power off and restart the load completely. Well, on May 29th (less than 11 months old), it shut down completely and would not drain the water. A&E whom both Whirlpool and Sears use for servicing under warranty could not get a serviceman here until June 10th.
We ended up with mildew in our machine which we predicted may happen for waiting this long. One technician on the phone told us to pour bleach in our machine until a serviceman arrived, of which we said no to because of fear that the bleach may strip the inside or cause more damage. Well, now we had a broken machine with a mildew inside that we don't want to wash our clothes in. Then, once the tech arrived on June 10, a whole other mess began. The 3 parts he ordered for the machine have been on back order and are still on back order today.
Everyone at A&E has been very nice and professional but all the people but two at Whirlpool have been very rude and not professional at all. I told one man how much we have been out so far on using the washateria and he said something like, "I have seven children and it doesn't cost that much." First of all, is it his business to judge his customer on how much I wash clothes? And secondly (as I judge him), I wonder how often his poor kids have to re-wear their clothes and how often he washes their sheets?
My machine is only 11 months old now, so should they not have parts for it? How crazy is this? We paid a lot for this machine and the extended warranty. The least they could do while we wait for them to fix our machines is for them to pay for the washateria or a rental machine. They would have much happier customers. I now refuse to ever buy a Whirlpool after this. In fact, we are talking about selling it once it's fixed because we don't want to deal with them. I plan to write this complaint on every site I can find. I'm so frustrated in how we have been treated.

I came home and it was not fixed. My niece had been here while I was at work. After calling A&E, he came back on Saturday, June 5, 2010. He ordered a part, which was a wrong part.
Today is Wednesday, June 9, 2010, and he took the control panel off and found out what was wrong the first time. I then called Whirlpool, after Googling the recalls and complaints about the Cabrio washer and asked them to cover the $377.81 for the first service call as I did not receive notification about the F1 error code and replacing that part.
If I have received notification, I could have known to contact Whirlpool and they would have sent out a technician and the part to make the machine work correctly. I would have been out even more if I had not started asking questions and finding out information. There were poorly working parts and the remedy to it. There was very little concern for customer satisfaction after the machine was purchased. They took my money and ran with.

I have a Whirlpool washer which has an extra rinse cycle. The problem is that it will rinse but the clothes are not spun very dry and are too soggy to put into the dryer. I have to avoid this cycle to get the clothes sufficiently spun. This is a new top loading machine. The consequence is inconvenience and not giving me the proper feature I thought I was paying for. Poor working quality.

Whirlpool Dues Sport HT has quit working with an error code and door locking. The CCU has not been available from Whirlpool for three months now. I did by chance find one on eBay and it was also faulty. I can't get any support from Whirlpool because I am 4 months out of a one year warranty. The local Whirlpool dealer claims they know of 30 other customers in the Twin Cities waiting for the same part. This appears to be a known issue for Whirlpool and they should have a recall to satisfy their customers. We have been without a washer for three months. This has been a great burden on us having to go to the laundry mat and to friends houses to wash our clothes, especially for a washer only 1 year 4 months old. Is their a class action suit with other consumers with the same issues?

I had bought a brand-new home and went to Lowe's and bought the Whirlpool Duet Sport front-load washer and dryer. I did not want a Whirlpool, but the salesman had talked me into it. After owning it for about 6 months, it began to leak and ruined my new flooring. A&E Factory Service came out and "repaired" the problem, and Whirlpool gave me a settlement of, I think it was, $2,500.
The washer leaked again and ruined my flooring again about 6 months later. A&E came out again and blamed the problem on me. He said I need to use 1/2 of the recommended amount of the HE detergent. 2 Days later, it leaked again. A&E came out and deemed the washer unrepairable, and I got a new washer (the same exact model though). I received $7,500 from A&E after 6 months of fighting with Whirlpool and A&E for the washer destroying my flooring. Whirlpool decided it was A&E's fault for not fixing it the first time.
Well, here we are again 6 months later. Guess what? It is leaking again. A&E came out last week and said I was using too much detergent. They said use a tablespoon of soap! Are you for real? Is that getting my clothes clean? Well, I tried that; and, guess what, it is still leaking. This washer has been a total nightmare.
A&E said I have to regularly clean the washer with bleach. One guy said do not use bleach, only use a special formula. One guy said only use vinegar. They said I need to wipe the barrel down after each load. I would really like to go back to my top-load washer where I did not have leaking issues and did not have to maintain the washer as much as this one. If you do not clean it each and every load, it will begin to mold!
I think it is just this model, because I know people who have front loads and they have never heard of the things that A&E was telling me. A&E Factory Service was unprofessional and unreliable, and they all say something different!

I purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer in November of 2007. I had to replace the pump due to an object getting trapped causing a hole in it. This was 2 months ago and I am now again seeing water coming from under the washer again. I was told by the repair man that the first time, they will replace at no cost and after, it will cost me up to $165.00 to repair. This is a joke! If the washer machine was built properly, there would not be a problem with stuff getting through to the pump area! I have never seen this happen before and I'm wondering why it happens with this particular model.
And to also mention, when I purchased the product, I purchased under the belief that it was Energy Star and when I went to apply for my Energy Star Rebate, I was told by the State of New Jersey that the model did not meet guidelines!

I purchased the Maytag Bravo Washer from Home Depot. Before owning one year, we had to have service, A&E to repair the washer. When ordering parts, they said I had to wait 3 months before receiving them until I called to rush the part. Then after two years, the tubs rusted to the support system and could not be pried apart.
A&E claims it’s because they sat to long unused about 6 months, but I would think you should be able to not use them for this long. I purchased Bravo dryer to match, and the heating element burnt out just after owning it 1 year. We purchased Kenmore and had A&E take the washer and dryer not even or barely 2 years old at a cost of $2000. We will only now buy Kenmore! I purchase a Cabrio Washer/Dryer set in August 2007. The dryer first had problems with the small hinges in the door not working, which caused the door not to shut. I had to call a repairman for this 2 different times. The washer started getting loose change somewhere inside. I was not able to locate how the change got down inside. You could hear it, but not see it. It finally worked its way into the pump. This caused the pump to get a hole in it. I called the repairman and it cost me $165.00 to have it repaired.
The repairman told me there was no way to get the change out once it got down inside the washer. Once again, change ended up in the washer. Once again, I called the repairman and it cost another $165.00 to repair. Also, once there was a hole in the pump, the water flooded my laundry room. Now another 2 months later, change is again in my washer. I was very careful to go through all pockets, but either missed the change or it was already in the washer from the times before. I decided not to pay anymore money for repairs and just go buy a new one. I spent a total of $1200.00 on my washer, which lasted me 2 1/2 years. Ridiculous! I do not recommend the Cabrio!

By November 2009, we got a F20 code, the cycle would start and then it would flash F20 and you could not do anything but unplug it and then you would have to switch to drain and hope to hell it would drain. When I called Whirlpool, they sent a tech out. He was instructed by Whirlpool tech support that some part needed to be replaced. This was ordered and it took four days to come from Brampton to Mississauga (I could walk faster). When the tech came back and put in the new part, F20 popped up again. He then got back on the phone with Whirlpool tech support and was told that he needed another part but unfortunately there were none in North America (go figure how the *** do you build these things if none of the parts are available).
By about the third week of not having a washer and lugging my laundry to the laundry mat and the numerous calls and emails to *** customer service people, I got a email to the President of Canada's assistant. It's really funny how quickly you get a phone call and some action when you threaten the media and my lawyer. But now, Maytag top-loaders are just re-badged as Whirlpools. This machine had the fewest electronic gizmos and mechanical gewgaws of any conventional top-loader, and the best reviews of any machine I researched. The "next-day delivery" occurred on 21 January due to machine availability.
The WTW5300VW has so much mechanical noise from the drive system during the wash and rinse phases of the cycle that you can't have a normal conversation next to the closed laundry room doors. The machine's "Hot" wash selection does not allow wash temperature over 97 degrees F (about the same as a cooler-than-comfortably warm bath). There is no lint filter, and the machine ties the clothes in knots. It goes out of balance regardless of how carefully you load it.
Whirlpool sent representatives from A&E who told me that this is just the way the machine is. I called Lowe's to pick the thing up tomorrow, and I'm on my way out the door. Now, the second-hand shop to buy a nice 30-year old GE Filter-Flo or Philco Automagic.

I reached in thinking it was a filter and wanted to pull it out gently. When I did, it broke off on one side and it felt like old plastic that was in the sun for years. After the warranty passed, it started to leak. I never overload it and certainly not to the max capacity as it is constantly unbalanced which causes it to stop and show a code which means nothing to us. Our clothes are clearly taking a beating as some are ripped and just worn out faster due to washing. I regret buying this unit without the middle section in it also to help, so the clothes don't become one big twisted knot which is what comes out at the end of each cycle. It leaks water on the floor all the time and in short, was a complete waste of money. Completely unreliable. Has Whirlpool done anything in terms of a recall on these units? The rubber boot (part no. 26 110 8182119 1) which seals the door developed a tear over a metal vent causing a leak. This is the second time in just over a year. First repair was on 4/14/08. Second time was on 11/11/09. You can feel the vent pressing on the boot and it is evident that it is causing pressure which results in an eventual tear and leakage. This is a flaw in design or product failure which will result in continuous problems. We have an extended protection plan, so our cost was only $11.21. The issue is that it has happened twice now and it is evident it will happen again because of the design flaw. We will have to continue replacing this and eventually our warranty will expire. Also, there is a possibility of damage to the floor if we do not catch the problem.

We called Sears and they had us contact a technician. They came out and said it was the bearings and would have to replace it and some other parts. This was under warranty. In July 2009, we had the same problem. The technicians came out and said it would be 3-4 weeks to get parts. They called us at the beginning of November and said that the parts alone would be between $500 and $600, plus labor on top of that. Because it was fixed under warranty the first time, there is no warranty on the parts or labor now.
I can see that several people have had issues with this machine. Is there anyway there would be a recall? I called Whirlpool, had to take a day off to wait on a repairman, only to have him say he'd have to order a part - the computer control board. The parts place told him it would be in in one week. It never came. We called him and Whirlpool. They did a nationwide search and found that they could not get that part anywhere, so they told us they would replace the washer and pick up the defective one.
My husband has called and called. There is no expected delivery date. I have now been having to go to the laundromat for 2 months. I have been paying on this washer for almost 5 months and have had the use of it for only 2! It is costing me money every week to go to the laundry to do clothes, plus the time wasted. I have to drive 20 minutes each way to town, then sit and wait on it to get done. During the hot weather, I had to dry most of the clothes there as well. The Whirlpool dryer takes a long time to dry and if you leave wet clothes sitting around on a hot day, you end up with soured clothes.
My patience is gone! If they cannot get a part or a replacement machine, there must really be a big problem at Whirlpool! How can you get them to stand behind their products? I looked at this as probably the last washer I'd have to buy. Now at 50 years old, I'm having to lug heavy baskets of clothes to the laundromat and pay double for the pleasure!

This is criminal. Not just one lemon but two? No one seems to care how long you have to be without the washer. Once they have your money, they could care less. You shouldn't have to wait one two three or more weeks for your product to be fixed. With the economy the way it is, you would think they would bend over backwards for the customer so they can save their jobs. They should be thankful they have one. But if they keep up the bad work, they may not have one for long. I would never recommend Whirlpool to anyone ever. I was so happy to finally be getting a matching set of machines and now it makes me sick to my stomach to see what has happened. I'm still waiting for my part. This has started the third week. I have a Whirlpool Duet GHW9400SUO washer. Up to the last three months, I have had problems with this washer: 1st, white towels and everything else that have light colors were turning brown and I had no idea what was going on; 2nd, some of the towels and others got rips and tears on them; 3rd, now I am getting a code FH and TH. This is too much. I paid a lot of money for this washer when I could have bought a top load for $200 that would have lasted at least 5 years and still could have sold it for $100 five years later. I took out a 1-year warranty on it, but I was not paying any more money on this. It’s a rip-off. My water bill has doubled and I pay $25.00 more a month on my electric bill. Now, I have to stand by to reset the washer every 2 to 3 minutes to get a load done.

I purchased the Cabrio front load washer and dryer on 10/27/06. I never had a problem until a strange code started showing up on my washer. I did some research and found that there was a defect in certain washers. I called amongst the many consumers affected by the recall, only to be told that my washer was not one of the serial numbers affected. To be courteous, they agreed to pay for parts and I will pay for labor and service charges of a company under contract with them. I agreed. Upon more research and the thousands of complaints, I found that individuals with my series were offered full repairs. I called back only to get a song and dance about how they were doing me a service.
I paid over $1,400 for this set. It should not be breaking down on a family of only three. They would not or could not tell me why consumers were not notified of this glitch. They felt it was our duty to contact them. The service tech never showed up at my home. I am still waiting for the next appointment. I will never buy their products again as they don't do damage control and just think consumers have money to fix an almost thousand dollar faulty machine. Shame on them!

We purchased a Whirlpool washer (WWTW57ESVWW-WH) and received it on 7/15/09. The machine shreds clothes on the regular wash cycle, which is related to a water level sensor problem. It either puts too little water in tub or defaults to the fill machine to the max water level. C&E was contracted by Bernie's to troubleshoot the problem, but they apparently found no problem but instructed us to not use the normal cycle, only the gentle cycle. This cycle does not remove soil and leaves too much water after spin, which requires inordinately long, dryer cycles. This is not energy-efficient. Many cases are documented that the water level sensor switches are defective in this model, which is why we do not want this machine. Bernie's wants a 10% restocking charge, which I do not feel we should pay; hence, this complaint.

The following is my complaint filed at www.BBB.org. Problem date is June 2009. Purchase date is 1/17/2007. Model number is WTW6300SW1. Serial number is CT3970060. Payment amount is $717.00 + 43.02 (6% PA tax) = $738.81 (sale price). Purchase done at Lowe's.
Two and a half years ago we bought a Cabrio washer and dryer set. In June, the washer started flashing an F1 error code. Water will flow into the detergent dispenser, then the F1 code flashes 3-5 seconds after you begin a cycle. You have to reset it by pressing cancel and then pressing start 2-3 times, then it will run. With 19-22 minutes left in a cycle, depending on which cycle used, the washer stops again. It will flash F1 until you reset it by pressing cancel and then pressing start 2-3 times. Then, it will run.
I did a search online and found out that this is an exceptionally common problem with the Cabrio. Whirlpool has recalled the part and is fixing people's machines for free as a result. I was thankful to hear this since it is a higher-end, $900 machine; and it should last longer than 2 1/2 years. I called customer service today, 8/25/09; and I was told that my model number is not covered under the recall, even though I am having the exact same problems as others whose machines were covered. I was offered help in scheduling a service call that I would have to pay.
Also, as a result of my search, I found the part in the washers (6600 series) covered under the recall is the same part and part number the factory previously installed on the 6300 series. If it is recalled in a 6600, it should be recalled in a 6300. I am asking BBB for all parts and labor to be covered by Whirlpool to repair my Cabrio washer with a defect caused by a part(s) installed on all Cabrio washers generating an F_ _"F##" Code error as printed on page 19 in the use and care manual provided with the Cabrio washer by Whirlpool.

When I called again in 2009, I was informed that the parts alone would exceed $900.00 and the labor would be another $200.00 to $300.00. The bearing was gone on the rear drum. I was informed that this was a common occurrence with these washing machines as the bearing was in fact plastic. I have been having problems with my Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine. I keep getting an F51 code. It basically shuts down the machine in mid-cycle. It happens anywhere from 2 to12 times during one load. You have to push Pause and then Start to get the load going again. Sometimes, that won't work either and you have to push Rinse and Spin and hope your clothes are clean. A repairman came out and said it was the control board that needed to be replaced and it would cost almost $500.
The machine cost $831 and was just 2 years old. I researched online and found that it is a very common problem, even a petition is going around for Whirlpool to fix this problem. Everyone has the same problem right when the warranty runs out. In my research, I also discovered that many people have had their parts replaced by Whirlpool free of charge after they called and spoke to a supervisor. I called Whirlpool for the same deal that everyone is getting and they told me they couldn't do anything about it and that they have no record of a problem with my model Cabrio. They did offer a discount though. I refused that as well.
I have contacted the BBB and joined the petition. I never like to sue but this is ridiculous. These top line machines should last longer than 2 years and if everyone is having the problem, then it is obvious that it is a defect in the product development and Whirlpool needs to stand by their product.

A couple of years ago our Whirlpool Gold dryer started marking brown marks on our clothing around 2-3 inches long. We contacted Whirlpool and they supplied us with a certified tech that corrected the problem by replacing a seal in 2007, which turns out to be a temporary fix. I have noticed this same mark again recently. I notified Whirlpool which advised they could pay for the part and we would have to pay for the labor. They set up a tech to come out. The guy called to say that he would have to come look to see what the problem is and for the first 10 minutes, the charge would be $65. So, I told him what the problem was and what part would be needed and he stated they don't keep that on the truck. He would have to come out to evaluate the problem in order to get the part and come back to fix it next week which in turn would have been well over $100, he stated.
So, I cancelled him and contacted Whirlpool back to see if they could help us a little more since to me this is a manufacturing defect. (You pay lots of good money for an appliance and you expect a longer life that they have plus this dryer is ruining my clothing). So Maria, a supervisor, stated that manufacturing defects are only covered in the warranty period which as she stated we are too far out of. She offered to pay for the parts only and we can pay for the labor which I finally pulled out of her that the seal that was replaced a couple of years ago was $30. Maria also offered us a 15% discount off a new product. I hope she was kidding since we have no money in this economy to purchase a new appliance. I advised her we would not be purchasing a new product and especially a Whirlpool product. Maria also informed me there is no lemon law on appliances.

Whirlpool’s customer service was not helpful and refused to tell me what the error code meant. I would never buy another Whirlpool appliance and wish I knew about this potential problem prior to making my decision. I thought that I was making a sound investment and purchasing a washer that would last years. I was told the repairs would cost about $450. I called the different local service techs certified by Whirlpool. They all came up with different diagnoses from getting a new base to replacing other kinds of parts; indeed, a complex issue. They dismantled the washer on different occasions to no avail. All these took a period of about 1.5 years. Finally, they said that they are not able to fix it as warranty has run out. Talk of buying time.

I had to replace the pump within the first 6 months and then again within a year, and so on. Then the front gasket decided to tear apart causing it to have to be replaced. Next thing I knew, it dumped water out everywhere. The dryer went shortly after that, it just decided not to dry and the digital buttons went crazy. I have a dishwasher Quiet Partner I that has stopped working, it no longer washes dishes, it lasted 2 years barely. I have had to rewash dishes many times within these 2 years. Our refrigerator is also Whirlpool and the icemaker has been replaced twice. Now I just buy ice. The gas hot water heater lasted about 3 years with repairs. Not something I wanted to worry about, so I replaced it. I am getting a junkyard full of appliances; I did not know they were disposable. I am tired of worrying about washing dishes and clothes. I had an older stove that went out too, but it was here.
My parents had appliances that lasted 30yrs. This is crazy. We are building a new house that will have a lot of large appliances and I am about to have a stroke thinking about whom to buy from. I don’t want to put out a lot of money for something that will last 2 years, just long enough for the warranty to run out. The reputation Whirlpool had when I was growing up does not stand. I will not have anything to do with them again. I have been burned too many times.

I bought a new Whirlpool washer (model #GSX9750PWO, serial number CR4710919) in Feb. 2005. I am a single man and was deployed for 15 months during that timeframe so the washer received less than normal family use. On or about 30 March '09, the washer quit working and started making a grinding noise. I called the local service tech who is certified by Whirlpool. He determined the transmission was bad. I had a warranty that covered the replacement transmission. The repair tech came back one week later with the new part. As I watched him tear down the washer, he said "Geez, look at this." Three mounting bolts are required to hold the transmission in place but only two had been installed from the factory. Both bolts had been sheared off creating irreparable damage to the base element. He told me I needed a new base.
I called Whirlpool and spoke with Shana they said they would only warranty the transmission. I told her the problem of one of the main bolts had not been installed from the factory, causing stress on the other bolts that eventually sheared them off causing transmission failure resulting in the base damage. After 45 minutes of haggling, they offered me 10% off of a new washer. I asked for her supervisor. After about 10 minutes on hold, Rob came on the line. After going through the concerns with him, he told me the repair tech needed to call tech line and they would not validate any information unless it came through the repair tech. On 22 April, the repair tech called me back and told me that Whirlpool would not honor any further repairs to the washer and they would do no more because of the months I have had it.

I purchased a Whirlpool washer in August 2006. After a few months, I noticed that water had leaked onto the floor. There were 2 times during the Whirlpool warranty that I called a serviceman, and he could not find a defect or problem. This did not happen all the time, so I was confused. After the first year, this happened a couple more times. Just about 2 months ago, I noticed more water than usual had leaked. Now the washer is under an extended warranty, and I once again called for service. This time, the technician knew immediately what was wrong. Like so many other consumer reports I have read, the water spills over and leaks out the bottom of the washer. It cannot be repaired and the extended warranty company will not do anything. Whirlpool also will not respond. This goes back to Whirlpool since it was defective from day one. I am thoroughly disgusted with this company.

I purchased a new Whirlpool washing machine in May last year. In January, it stopped working. It was found to have a burnt out motor. The nearest approved repairer is located 170 kilometers from me. I delivered the washer to them. Whirlpool took a month to supply a new motor. I then drove down and picked up the machine. On the 4th wash when I brought it home, the motor burnt out again. I contacted Whirlpool again because this is too expensive of using laundromats, driving hundreds of kilometers to get repairs, etc. I was told someone will get back to me. That was three months ago. I have rung no less than ten times, and not one return call. I sent a letter of demand, but no reply. I have now filled out a complaint at the Office of Fair Trading, but would like to escalate this a lot further. Anyone else out there who would like to become involved fighting this arrogant mob of ripoff merchants, get in touch.

We purchased a Duet washer machine - we haven't been happy with it since the purchase. The clothes were smelling dirty. We had a tech out and he told us if our drain tub had been filling up with water too high, the washer would suck in the soiled water and wash the clothes with the dirty water. Also, the clothes smell like mold. He said, "You have to leave the door of the washer wide open to dry the washer out." The washer wears the clothes out - draining the color out and making clothing look worn. I checked on the consumer complaint website. There are lots of class action suits but none for the particular model #WFW9200SQ00 that I could see.

We own the Cabrio Washing Machine and have had all the problems noted previously with error codes and leaking. The problem that concerns me the most though is the rotten egg/mildew smell every time we use the machine. I went through the normal procedures and contacted Whirlpool to obtain their advice on what could be causing the problem and how could it be fixed. I understand people make mistakes, and I don't expect all products to be perfect; although, I don't expect any company to lie to their customers to mask an obvious problem with the top loader Cabrio Washer. I was told by Whirlpool that the smell was probably the water heater and the zinc anode reacting to the water source. I was also told to use bleach in the washer with hot water and this would remove the smell.
After several months of order and eliminating all of the items that Whirlpool said was the problem, I finally did some investigating of my own. I found out the actual cause of the rotten egg smell. Regardless of what Whirlpool tells you, the following is what is causing the terrible odor every time you use the Cabrio Washer: clothes are working their way under the gap between the agitator and the basin. It is only a small 1/4 inch gap so it doesn't swallow clothes with every load. After taking the machine apart, I found old moldy and smelly clothes in a sub-basin under the agitator.
After using the machine for more than a year, I removed 2 shredded and moldy t-shirts, 2 soccer shorts, a pair of undies, and 2 socks. The stuff smelled awful after sitting in this wet sub-basin for I am not sure how long. The good news is that the clothes would create error codes while working their way to the sub-basin, although after they get through the gap, the machine starts working again without error codes. The bad news is that the house and clothes smell terrible even after they are washed (I am not sure of any other health consequences).
I am taking my time to make everyone aware of this problem and to make sure those allergy sensitive individuals are aware of this issue (Whirlpool will not make you aware of it) to prevent any health issues. I am also concerned that my expensive machine will continue to be stressed due to this design flaw and that I will best case, continue to have the order issue. The worst case is that the machine stops working due to the grinding; and I have to buy another machine.
I have written a letter to the CEO of Whirlpool to let him know specifically about the problem. Monica called me back and told me that I "overloaded the washer". I am embarrassed for Whirlpool and their response regarding this issue. I am waiting for an honest and reasonable response from Whirlpool regarding the Cabrio Washer. Their previous responses have been unacceptable and dishonest. I am giving Whirlpool an opportunity to do the right thing regardless of how much it impacts their bottom line!

In Sept. 07, I bought a Whirlpool Duet washer. It lasted approximately 14 months. The warranty was good for 12 months. This machine was a top line $850 machine. I called the corporate office to see if they would do anything to make this right. They offered to pay for the parts; I agreed. This was 6 months ago. Every time I try to find out where the parts are, they tell me they are back ordered, and then offer a 15% discount to buy a new machine. I laughed because even with a 15% discount on an $850 machine that lasts 14 months is a waste of money. With all these American companies in the toilet, you would think they would want to keep loyal customers happy? What do I know?

I also purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer on 3/4/8 and like everyone else I regret that day. Mine too has been a piece of junk since day one. I have had seven service calls (three different companies) and to no avail have had any satisfaction. My machine stays off balance and shuts down. I have actually sprained my thumb and strained my back from having to lift the wet clothes up and reorganize them in order to start the machine again. This can easily happen between two and five times during a cycle. The computer board has been replaced (recall) and they have replaced my impeller and it still doesn't operate properly. I have never been more frustrated with a product and absolutely dread having to wash a load of clothes.
My technicians have all told me that the Cabrio does not have a part problem. It has an engineering problem which is quite obvious to me and that the unhappy customers are endless. They even dread walking in and seeing that you own a Cabrio. They have even told me that Whirlpool does not care and have no intentions of replacing this catastrophe of a machine and they just want us to give up and go away. Well, I don't think so. I'm personally on board with any civil action taken against the Whirlpool Corp. as they are not taking the responsibility of designing and selling a defective product. If you will read the Quick Start Guide, it states you have made an exciting and rewarding investment and we want to ensure your complete satisfaction. Really. How about our complete dissatisfaction! I just can't seem to get any satisfaction from the Whirlpool Corp.
I thought I was going to go into complete hysteria when I finally got transferred to a Supervisor and her pathetic resolve was to offer me another service call. Well I for one of many would love to know when this complete satisfaction begins. What I expect is my money back ($1,000 bucks) or another machine at equal value and certainly not a Cabrio. And PS, my sister has one too!

I purchased the Estate Washer in July 2008 and since that time I've had seven service calls on the machine. The wash machine is leaking on the small cycle load and splashes water over the side of the tub onto the floor. The service calls and the repairs have cost more than the wash machine itself.
Each time the tech relays to Whirlpool Customer Care and each time they refuse to do anything about it. On a few occasions, they have lied about the machine. At one point, Whirlpool Customer Care told me that I was filling the machine too full with clothes. I am a single parent with one 12-year-old child. There isn't much laundry between the two of us.
Today, the tech came out for the seventh time and witnessed what the machine was doing. He took the top off and we watched water splash all over the floor, wall, carpet and dryer next to the machine. He called Whirlpool Customer Care with me listening to the conversation and he told them exactly what the machine was doing. It was splashing water over the side. They instructed him to have me call about the machine and what they would do. When I called them, they told me that the tech called it in as a Use in Care and that I was loading the machine improperly with my clothes. What an outright lie. I was standing there listening to the conversation. I have been lied to by this company twice now.
I called the Corporate Office today and the woman on the Executive Team told me that the machine was working properly and there was nothing I could do about the water splashing over the side of the tub. She suggested that I add more clothes or wash on the medium or large load. I asked her why my parents' wash machine would not leak like mine does because they have the same machine and she said she didn't know. I also asked her about statistics on how many complaints they receive on this particular machine doing this and she had no idea what that information would be.
I truly feel that I have been sold a lemon washing machine from Whirlpool. HH Gregg and Whirlpool have refused to replace the machine. Bottom line, the machine leaks and it is leaking on my floor. I cannot believe that a company of this size would refuse to do something about the machine. I will never purchase another item from HH Gregg in Madison, TN and will never purchase another Whirlpool item again. I will make it my mission to tell people not to purchase Whirlpool and I will lodge as many complaints as I can regarding this company.

In 2006, we purchased a brand new home that came with Whirlpool appliances. Trail Appliances was the supplier. We wanted to upgrade our washer & dryer to the more expensive and (dependable) front load systems. The supplier suggested we purchase the Higher Grade Kitchen Aid models as they were the better appliances and that Whirlpool was upgrading everything to the Kitchen Aid brand. Two years and seven months later, suddenly the washer quits. I waited three hours for a Whirlpool Technician call back.
In the meantime I had another company come out to look at the washer. When you remove the top panel of the washer, there is an electronic power pack at the top rear of the washer, and the control panel at the top front of the washer with a wiring harness that passes through a sharp-edged hole in the metal cross member just behind the control panel. The vibration of the washer causes the wiring harness to rub on the sharp edge of the cross member and after two and a half years, the insulation on the wiring harness wore down to expose the wire and contact the metal cross member creating a short, thus frying out all the electronics of the washer.
I now have a $780 repair bill with no compensation from Whirlpool because I did not purchase any extended warranty. I explained to them that this was a manufacturing defect and their response was that there were no other complaints of this nature on file and because I did not purchase extended warranty, there is nothing they can do.

They refused to replace the machine but, more importantly, I was informed there was no one else I could speak to and that Whirlpool has no official complaints department.
The store, Corbeil, has also refused to replace or refund the machine. I have had messages not returned three times. Again, more important is their attitude. They have been unhelpful and unrelenting. This machine has not worked for over one year. This is a direct quote from Glen: "Your anger is misplaced. You should be angry with Whirlpool. We don't build the machine." I purchased a Cabrio Washer in July of 2007. Within one month, the pump went out. I purchased it at ABC Warehouse in Traverse City, MI. I bought an extended warranty with it also. When I called, they came in a couple of days (Yeskes). They said it wasn't installed correctly and never checked the pump. I called ABC many times and told them that they were nuts because of the installation instructions. Our washer is in the basement and has to be pumped up and out. We more than met the height requirements.
In the meantime, my month and a half old washer would not work and was leaking water everywhere when I tried to use it. I threatened to drive through their showroom and dump it off if they didn't do something. The manager was never available. I finally went in and cancelled my extended warranty with the idiots. I then called Whirlpool and they sent out a wonderful gentleman from A&E. He found that it was the pump; it had a coin in it. It blew a hole in the side of the pump. He had to order the part and come back one week later to put it in. So, I spent money and time going to the Laundromat when I had a $950 washer sitting there.
Since then, A&E has replaced the pump again. My husband has replaced it twice and the third one (actually fifth) one is being shipped as I am writing this. In the meantime, I also had a F1 signal on my machine that would never finish a cycle. I messed with that for at least three weeks trying to trick it into doing my wash. I finally got mad and called Whirlpool and they sent out A&E and they did cover it even though my warranty had just run out. They said it was a known problem.
I have never owned such a piece of garbage in my life. I will never buy another thing from ABC and I will never own another Whirlpool product. That machine is a piece of junk; it has such poor design. I have tried so hard to make sure no change is in any pockets. There is just my husband and I so, there isn't that much laundry. My last washer lasted 12 years and the belt went. I wish I would have had it fixed. We had a dairy farm when we had that and ran 2 to three loads a day seven days a week and it never gave me a problem.
Whirlpool should pull that piece of crap washer and replace every single one that has had problems. I am going washer shopping tonight. My husband took one of the old pumps and epoxied it so I could use it until the new one came. The pump is working but now it has something else wrong with it and he has had it. I was planning on purchasing a front loader but had read much about the mildew smell and knew I didn't want to deal with that. We decided on the TL and have the mildew smell anyway. I was told to run bleach or special tabs through the machine regularly to prevent this. I am a 30+year satisfied Maytag customer but the purchase of this product is definitely my last.
The machine was marketed to be able to handle large loads, king size comforters, and be gentle on all. The machine knots my clothes, damaged my comforter, and does not clean my clothes. It sounds like a military helicopter taking off in my laundry room during the spin cycle. I have always recommended Maytag to newlyweds and friends and neighbors replacing their washing machines.
