Applications not only killed the real lawn I had, but failed to kill the forest of weeds that took its place, nor the cinch bugs and other insects that began to infest it. I canceled the service but I continued to receive weekly calls to set up service appointments. I literally had to call over 5 times to have any results. One of the worse companies I have ever dealt with.

Six months ago, I contracted with TruGreen for their lawn services. I told the representative that in addition to the periodic treatments, I wanted my lawn core aerated and power seeded no later than September 1st. The folks from TruGreen never showed up on the 1st and when they were a no show by the 19th of September, I called them.

The gentleman who answered the phone apologized and said that they would get on it right away. When they still hadn't shown up by September 22, I again called and was told that I was scheduled sometime a week later and they couldn't tell me when they would do the work. After they have continuously called me begging to do treatments for everything from grubs to illegal aliens, I have endured them and always have paid my bill on the same day I received it.

I will be cancelling my service with them and forbidding them to ever call or come on to my property.

TruGreen contacted me and asked if I wanted service for my lawn. First I told them yes, but after talking to my roommate I called them right back and told them I didn't need it. On 8/5/2011, I returned home to find a notice on my door that they came out anyway. I immediately contacted them to remind them that I cancelled it before they came. I was told not to worry about the bill. I just received another bill for twice the amount and they are saying they don't have a record of me cancelling the service.

Horrible! Do not hire TruGreen Chemlawn for lawn service. I paid $400 in April for weed control. By July, weeds were worse than ever! I tried to cancel my service, but they were so pushy on the phone to have someone come out and spray again. After this happened, weeds were still terrible. Now, they won't refund me! Caution with TruGreen Chemlawn! Don't hire them. Poor treatment on weeds. Poor customer service.

I have used this company for several years with satisfactory service. However, they have a policy of not getting permission to continue services from year to year. Additionally, it is next to impossible to reach a manager who can rectify a problem. We are going to go with a local company more in tuned to the customer.

TruGreen misapplied chemicals to my lawn, resulting in 80% of my lawn being burned and turning brown. To restore the lawn, it was necessary to water my lawn daily for more than two weeks. This resulted in an increase in my water bill of more than $300. I billed TruGreen Southbend for $100, which they have refused to pay. They admit to the application error, but refuse to take any responsibility for the cost of the necessary corrective action. The manager, Roger **, is a rude and unprincipled man who is just selling a scam service.

I hired them to take care of my weed problem on my lawn and fertilize my trees, plants and shrubs. After one visit, my yard had large burn areas. My knockout roses were wilting . And my 18 ft Leyland cypress trees were turning brown.

They blamed the burn spots on winter fungus that I had never had in the 4 years I have lived there. The weeds were all still there. I have tried contacting corporate after the local branch stonewalled me. And then I got the run around from corporate. What a complete joke, how are they still in business? After 15-20 calls to the local branch they finally , without admitting guilt , gave me the rest of the years service for free. They said they would be out every couple weeks to treat, and 3 months later I still have weeds, my roses are all but gone and my trees are still looking bad. I took the day off today to stay home because there was supposed to be a service call today and no one showed up.

Because of my increased work schedule, I decided to let TruGreen handle my lawn after calling them from a flyer received. They talked a good story, talking about all of the treatments they would apply to the lawn and the great results that would follow.

After their first visit, they said I had some issues with my trees/shrubs and that I should treat them for insects, etc. and because they are the 'experts', I agreed to do so. My lawn has always look good and, as the summer went on, the lawn began to deteriorate in several areas. Considering they were so quick to point out my tree/shrub issues when I couldn't see anything, I thought the same would be done with the lawn. But application after application came and went and nothing was said as the lawn continued to deteriorate.

I even have a physical receipt showing one application that shows a total time of 4 minutes and another of only 2 minutes and my lawn is like 15,000 square feet! I called them a few weeks back as my lawn turned into the worst on the street. And when I wanted to cancel, I was put on hold for a minute and another person picked up, who I now know was not in NH but down in TX.

He apologized and said someone would come out. Over a week later when no one showed, I called again and again he apologized and would send someone out and another week passed and no one showed again. I finally cancelled the account yesterday and was supposed to get an email confirmation, which I didn't get. And today I called again to ask for it and I'm still waiting for this confirmation.

I signed up for TruGreen lawn care to put chemicals out and to keep my grass looking good. I kept them for a month or so and called to cancel due to funds. I called the local office in which I signed up for and cancelled. I spoke with a lady and she said that there was no problem and that it would be taken cared of. A few weeks later, I received a call about my final bill. I don't mind paying for a service in which I asked for. I called to clarify that the bill was taken cared of and the lady I spoke with said that it was.

One day, after I got off work, I came home to find their company sign in the yard and a note on the door for what they performed that day. I called the office and told the lady that I had cancelled their service and she apologized and said their mistake and it would be taken care of. Once again, I came home from work to find a sign in the yard. I called once again asking them what the problem was and why they were still coming to my house, after I told them that I no longer wanted their service. I got an apology and said it would be handled.

After this time, I put a padlock on by gate to at least be able to keep them out of my backyard if they decided to return. They came back! The next day, Erin ** called my cell phone saying that he could not access the backyard. I told him that it's because I cancelled all the month prior. He said ok and said that he would speak with his supervisor to ensure this is taken cared of so that they would not be back out and make sure I was not billed since it was their mistake. Of course, I started receiving phone calls about the bill. I literally spoke with six different people on different occasions about this, all in which said it would be handled. I've left two messages for Erin ** to call me back but I haven't heard anything and I'm still being harassed. They are saying that I didn't cancel until August when I actually cancelled back in June of 2011.

I've never dealt with a company that is so unprofessional and ignorant. I don't understand how hard it is to actually get them to cancel service instead of basically trying to rob people of their hard-earned money. Not once did they gave me a confirmation number nor have I thought to ask. These are modern-day crooks and need to be investigated.

I have perfect credit well into the high 750s, but I will not have that threat hung over my head because it is their mistake and ignorance. The local number for TruGreen that covers the Tyler, Tx is 214-388-4771.

This is the second season that TruGreen has been servicing my lawn. I figured that I should give them two years as I know that these things take time. Well, in the middle of July 2011, the technician over treated my yard and dozens of burn areas show up in a matter of two days. The technician came out and confirmed that he had over treated the yard and would take care of it in a couple of weeks. His definition of take care of it was $10 of grass seed and I get to take it from there. I asked if he really thought that grass seed would take in the middle of August (dry season in Indiana). We did get the grass going, just in time for TruGreen to come out and shock the grass again, killing all the newly grown and making more burnt areas. Even though we have watered extensively and regularly, we have been struggling to keep the grass growing ever since. There are burnt areas everywhere in our lawn. I have cancelled my TruGreen account and will work on finding a new service. I definitely cannot recommend TruGreen.

A few months ago I received a notice from Trugreen stating that payments should not be made from the statement left by the technician. Payments should only be submitted when an invoice is received.

In early July, one treatment was done and a combined treatment was done in late July. The first invoice I received was for the early July treatment, which I received the last week of July. I sent the payment approximately 7 days after receiving the invoice. Three days after the payment was sent, I received a second invoice, it was the first week of August, which had all three treatments listed and it stated that my account was past due. That same evening, I received a call from a Trugreen representative stating my account was past due and I should make a full payment immediately.

I questioned the balance and was told payments must have crossed in the mail and a note would be attached to my account explaining such. Two days later, I received another phone call stating my account was overdue and payment should be made immediately. After explaining the situation again, I was told that the reason for the late notices were due to the fact that I was using Bill Pay and that payments made through Bill Pay take up to 10 days after the payment is received to post on my account. I mentioned the previous call and was told that this call would be noted on my account as well as the previous call. Two days later, I received a third call, during this call I informed the caller that I wanted to cancel my service because of the "payment delays" and the constant phone calls. I was told this would be noted on my account.

I received another call from the customer service representative asking what he could do for me, to not lose me as a customer. I explained the billing issue and his response was, "payments were being issued by a third party and the company did not realize these calls were being made. Also, Trugreen do not consider an account past due until 60 days from the first invoice."

An apology was made and after the rep checked my account, I was assured that my balance was zero. I spoke to that representative on August 15. Today, August 20, I received a letter dated 8/16 stating my account is past due and payment must be received within 7 days.

I had TruGreen to service my lawn under their guarantee to make my lawn healthy. After their first weeds control application, in early summer 2011, my lawn was looking terrible like yellowish. I started watering the lawn after the application, thinking that it will get better but my grass never returned back to its green color.

I contacted TruGreen several times. Then they sent out a technician to see the grass and he claimed it was weather stress. I called TruGreen and they said the same thing. It was early June then so there was no hot weather to cause my lawn to turn yellowish so fast. Even I was watering the lawn.

I had to pay my own money to repair the grass and TruGreen dare to ask me to pay for that service of $48.15. I called TruGreen many times and told them that I had to pay to repair my lawn. I cancelled their service. I don't feel that it’s fair for me to pay for that weeds control application, but they are still sending me a bill of $48.15.

My yard has never had so many weeds and bare spots. Tru-Green started the applications in March and today I cancelled the service. I have complained about the amount of weeds several times, even left a message for the manager to contact me and he never did.

The tech responsible for this mess called me a little over a week ago and said he would be out in a day or two for a free application. He didn't seem interested in what I had to say and couldn't wait to get off the phone. I nearly told him not to bother but thought I would give this another chance.

Well, he showed up yesterday. The sign that they usually stick in the ground was hardly visible as it was laying flat on the ground among the weeds. He left my gate open at the back, broke the leg of a solar light. Usually, they would leave something on the door indicating what they did but I did not have anything. Aside from how crappy my yard looks, his visit yesterday would warrant not wanting this company to "treat" my yard.

They also like to call and are anxious to take care of my trees and bushes for $100, to which I told them why would I entrust you to do that when I have weeds that are thriving? After I said that, the guy hung up.

Don't waste your money or time with this company. Go with a small local company where you deal with the owner/operator.

I had scheduled TruGreen to come out and access my lawn, as the St. Augustine grass was yellowing in some areas. No dead grass, just yellowing. He did not dispute whether or not I had chinch bugs. The treatment to use was to work on the chinch bugs, and I asked numerous times that I could not have the lawn burnt. I stated that the house was on the market and clearly a for sale sign posted on the front lawn, and I could not have the St Augustine grass killed.

I specifically stated that I had another service that was to remediate the chinch bugs (well over a year ago). The chemicals were too strong, and killed the live grass. It has taken the entire last winter and spring for my lawn to recover, and still have bare patches in the front yard, where the grass is still filling in. I wanted to make sure that my lawn would not be killed by the chemicals since the property was on the market, and I couldn't afford to have the lawn damaged at this point in time. I made it abundantly clear with my concerns on the chemical treatment.

The technician assured me that the chemicals they use would not kill the grass. I was told that he would treat the lawn for chinch bugs. After time had passed, I noticed the lawn had died in large patches were the grass was alive, and there had been no presence of yellow grass. In addition, the entire lawn had dead grass surrounded by green grass. I don't understand why there was so much dead grass when I cut the lawn, and I collect all the grass clippings. Now the grass blades are still yellow which made me wonder whether there were chinch bugs present in the first place, and the grass itself was not as green as it had been before the chemicals were used. It seems that it's overwatering, much rainfall and lack of iron that is causing the yellowing. I was told on the first treatment that they were running a promotion; it would cost $46.00 less, a promotional discount of $23.00. Which would mean the total cost would be $23.00. So, I agreed to that, as I’m on an extremely tight budget.

After the lawn was dying, I didn’t know how I was going to handle this, so time passed. I was at my wits end since the house is on the market; the lawn burned in areas, and much dead grass would make an impact to curb appeal. I’ve been concerned with looking for work, and dealing with selling the property. The lawn problem was the least of my worries. The company contacted me; I told them I was extremely unhappy with their service that I was not going to pay the $23.00, and did not want them to do any further service. I further explained that the grass was still yellow, and the grass was dead in many patches (burned) where the grass was alive and overall, the lawn was brown.

TruGreen stated they would send someone to access the damages. I noticed the technician on the property, and I went out to speak with him regarding the issues with the treatment. The comment was that he could not access the property, as he had not seen it before the treatment. The technician wanted to treat the lawn, and I stated I didn’t want any further treatment to the property. I stated since I was unsatisfied with the initial treatment, why would I consider having them continue to treat the property? I would not be paying for Trugreen’s services, as they did not stand behind not burning and causing more damage to the lawn. He informed he could do nothing about the bill. The company would be the only one to deal with about it.

In the meantime, I received another bill. I received two bills; one for chinch bugs in the amount of $46.00, and the second bill for the lawn care in the amount of $46.00 (less $23.00). I didn’t understand why there were two bills when I was told by the technician that it would be $46.00 less the promotional discount of $23.00. So, the amount to be paid is not $23.00, but $69.00. A lot of double talk and plan old switch, and bait. No where did the technician stated $46.00 for the chinch, and $46.00 for the lawn care less $23.00. Furthermore, he was to treat for chinch bugs, and that was what I had them come out to treat. I would never have agreed upon that $69.00. I further explained to the technician that I was not in a position to pay a lot for the service; $23.00 for the initial and then $46.00 for each continuing service would be fine, as finances are tight like many millions other Americans.

Now I am at a standstill; not knowing where to turn, or what my rights are. Do you or anyone have an answer? What have others done in this similar situation with TruGreen? Tell me, does one pay for services rendered when damages are the results of their services? If you take your car in to get fixed and the work is not done, do you pay the bill? No one seems to stand behind their work or their word. I was assured that the chemicals used to treat the grass would not kill the grass, and the cost would be $46.00 less the promotional discount of $23.00, which would mean $23.00 for the first treatment. It seems that the yellowing was caused by overwatering and much rainfall, and lack of iron that is causing the yellowing not chinch bugs. They deceived me to get the work.

In May, TruGreen came in and sprayed my yard. They burned large patches of it, which caused me much grief and embarrassment. I called the local manager, Kenny, who refused to come out. Approximately 6 months ago, we had a Double Palm Tree die while under the care of TruGreen. We have had that palm tree since we built our house back in 2005. I contacted TruGreen several times because I wanted cancel my service with them. I never talk to an actual employee at TruGreen when I call, I always get the answering service. I left several messages that I wanted to cancel my service due to them allowing my tree to die. The fact that the tree was dying was never conveyed to me or my husband. We both work very long hours and rely on our paid service to TruGreen to keep us informed of any issues we should have with our lawn and trees. We pay a separate service fee for our shrubs and trees. But then when I tried to get them to cancel our service, they would not contact us back and then show up at our house the next month to treat our lawn and dead tree. Since then I finally had a gentlemen by the name of Jeff **call me, he assured me that he would have someone contact us and try to rectify the situation. I told him they would need to call and set up an appointment because we have dogs and we both work during the day.

Jeff then assured me again that someone would call and make an appointment to look at the trees and discuss with us how to fix the situation. No one ever contacted us and once again they showed up to treat our lawn and trees the next month. Then to make the situation worse, in the interim of trying to get them to contact us to fix the first tree they let die another palm tree is now dying! We have since noticed that they are still treating the dying palm tree because upon examining the sick tree we can see the fertilizer and palm tree food around the base of the tree.

So once again I started trying to contact someone or anyone to tell them without a doubt I wanted my service to be stopped and wanted a refund for my dead trees and for my service for the last 6 months. It took me all day on a Saturday to get in touch with someone that could help me. I was hung up on 4 times while the answering service was trying to transfer my call so I had to resort to calling corporate headquarters and spoke with a gentlemen by the name of Ed **. Once again he assured me someone would be in contact with me and that they would make things right and once again I heard nothing from no one! Ed then followed up about a week later asking me if anyone had contacted me, when I told him no he promised me someone would be calling and once again, nothing!

This is the worse company I have ever tried dealing with. They have made countless promises and never follow thru. I have finally had my service stopped, which was a huge inconvenience because I had to cancel my debit card! I have several friends that I regretfully recommended them to and they have had the same exact problems with TruGreen. I hired TruGreen under their guarantee to make your lawn healthy. My lawn had terrible crab grass last August 2010. I did what the company recommended in the fall of 2010 and spring of 2011. And now I have no grass.

The lawn is destroyed. Weeds are growing, brown spots are 80% of the lawn and no new grass has grown. I've tried since June to get the manager of the branch out to see the property. I've called the branch several times telling them that I would not pay them until the grass was brought back to something TruGreen considered healthy and I wanted the manager to call me.

It's August, the manager hasn't seen the property and I've called them and gotten an "ok" to my manager request several times. But alas, I'm still fighting with them, still waiting for a manager to see the property and still waiting for a phone call from him. Also, I just received a bill from them.

I have been called by the company numerous times to count on them on providing service. Their home service is terrible. They care less about how they place the grass seed in the fall. They shoot seed into the flower beds and are not there to remedy the problem. After instructing them on the problem, they were still very task oriented. They wanted to get the work done as fast as possible and on to the next job without care about quality.

The company’s calls are outrageous as they call more than telemarketers. I called the corporate office without any success. They were just as bad as the local general manager in Norfolk. It seems to be a management problem in the company. I would not recommend them to anyone for any reason. They are the worst company that I have ever used.

I am a tech for TruGreen. I don’t know how I stumbled across this hilarity, but after reading these complaints, I feel I must comment.

I will start off by saying that I agree. TruGreen’s billing/sales practices need to be improved. I get complaints daily from customers that billing is a big issue. Incorrect charges, no payments posted, etc. That is definitely the weakness of the company and does need a massive reconstruction. But in regards to sales, it’s just that – sales. Their job is to sell you things. Just like any other retail store/service you go to. It’s your job as a customer to research what you really need. I don’t care what industry it is, if you allow the sales guy to decide what you need, they will sell you the world. Is it morally right? No. I see people all the time being sold lime apps/aerations that don’t need it. I do feel bad sometimes, but it’s a business and as the saying goes "a fool and his money are easily parted".

Now, here is where I will defend my company. While I do not think TruGreen is the best place to work, it is definitely not a shady company that "plants grubs" or weeds in lawns. ROFL. Unfortunately, like with any workplace, there are always a handful of workers who don’t give a ** about anyone and hate life. It really sucks if your tech is one of those guys. But likewise, it sucks if your barber is one of those guys, or your plumber or any other service person you pay.

However, personally, I do everything I can to help my customers get a perfect lawn. But much like most of you morons posting on here, 60% of my customers think it’s all on us. Like we just show up and turn your dump, crabgrass/weed infested lawn into a golf course with one or 2 treatments. Like we sprinkle magic dust and everything’s perfect. If I’ve been there a few times, there should be zero weeds and a nice dark green lawn. What a joke.

The fact is, the majority of you people crying about weeds and brown grass, are not doing your part. When you get into dumping chemicals on grass, understand your lawn now requires different attention than it did before. The occasional rainstorms do not provide anywhere near the amount of water needed. Consequently, the grass is also more affected by heat – therefore you can’t mow below 4.5", especially if you don’t water at least every other day for 20-30 minutes. This does not mean standing on your porch with a hose. This means either spending the money on in-ground irrigation or dragging sprinklers around the yard.

It’s not our problem that you are lazy, don’t listen to instructions and have unrealistic expectations. Lawns that are filled with weeds and/or grubs will take at least 2 seasons of treatments combined with you properly and consistently mowing and watering before you will have a nice lawn. It’s not rocket science that plants need water, sun and nutrients to grow. When you boost nutrients, but not water, what do you think is going to happen? The weed control needs water to work and weeds thrive off hot, dry areas.

TruGreen is not a magical solution to your piece of ** lawn. It’s a tool that, when combined with your efforts (watering/mowing), will help you get results faster than doing it yourself.

Again, I know there are some employees that really don’t care and do crappy work. But at my branch in Albany, a good 70% of the guys who work here are good, experienced and have the customers’ best interest as a priority.

On Friday, July 22, 2011, I was standing on my front porch and Henry, an employee of TruGreen lawn service, approached me. He was servicing the lawn of my neighbor across the street. He asked me if I would be interested in a one-time lawn service for $60, indicating that there were no contracts involved. He serviced my lawn, and when he gave me the paperwork, he asked me if I would be interested in tree and scrub service to which I replied, "no." He said, "Well, your trees and scrubs look good."

Later that afternoon, I was contacted by telephone by a representative of TruGreen confirming that the service had taken place. She indicated that I had a double service and the amount would be $120. I protested indicating that their service person said nothing about a double service and nothing about $120-- something that I would have turned down. She further indicated that their full program was 11 services at $60 each. I protested indicating that their services were ridiculously expensive based on my past experience using lawn services, which typically charged $300 and some odd dollars for a yearly service. I asked her when the next planned service would be and she indicated that it would be the end of August.

Later I was called by Henry, the person who did the lawn service, and I told him that he never said anything about $120, just $60. He apologized for the misunderstanding, indicating that $60 would be removed from my bill and I would get one free service.

Today, July 27, I happened to go outside only to find a TruGreen rep performing a service. I asked him what he was doing, when I was clearly told the next service was scheduled for the end of August. He said that it was a tree and scrub service. Obviously, there was no point arguing with him so I called the local servicing office in Oldsmar, FL, 813-855-4887, and spoke with Sharon who could not have been less accommodating.

She would not listen to the logic of the fact that I was told that the next service was not until the end of August--continuously arguing that the service was for tress and scrubs. I told her a service is a service and I was told the end of August. Bottom line, she couldn't care less about my arguments and simply was not in the least sensitive or caring about the customer's needs.

I told her to remove my name from any future service. I further indicated that I would happily pay a bill for the amount of $60 and not a cent more. I told her that if she insisted on incorrectly billing me, I would choose to pay nothing and let them turn the account over to a collection agency and that I was not about to be bullied into paying the incorrect amount.

I would avoid these derelicts. They couldn't care less about their customers.

TruGreen called during the week of 5-30-2011 to promote their grub control service. I agreed to the grub control service. I also asked them to "spot" treat for weeds, since the weed control they applied during the last service was not effective. I specifically stated that I did not want any more fertilizer because we do not water the lawn, and the lawn was already stressed. As per TruGreen’s standard procedure, they followed-up the sales call with a second call to confirm the order. After confirming the grub control application, I again reiterated to the account manager that I did not want any fertilizer applied to the lawn. I just wanted them to spot treat any obvious weeds with a hand sprayer.

On 6-4-2011, a TruGreen technician serviced our property, and left a copy of the work order. The work order indicated that he applied a granular fertilizer, and spot treated weeds he saw. He did not apply any grub control. Basically, the service provided was just about 100 percent in error, and in direct contradiction with my specific request-- not to apply fertilizer since our lawn was stressed.

We promptly called the office to resolve the mistake, and were treated very rudely. We were finally told that the grub control would be applied the following week, and that our account would not reflect the fertilizer application. This did not happen. Again, I spoke with TruGreen on 7-20-2011 (Ryan), and was told that our account has been canceled because we've strayed from "their standard program". I was also rudely told that they have no record to confirm that I did not want the fertilizer application done on 6-4-2011. This was in fact either a lie, or a consequence of their records being altered, since in the past they had been able to confirm the inaccurate application, and had agreed to credit my account.

As of today, we have not received a grub control application. We are still receiving an over-due account statement; showing the outstanding cost for the fertilizer application done in error on 6/4/2011. Our account was also canceled with our knowledge, and without even the courtesy to tell us that they would not be doing the grub control. We have attempted to speak with someone in the corporate office too, but with no success.

I built a new retirement home four years ago. The home was situated in a new development and my home was the first built. After the initial construction, I hired a professional to prepare the property for the seeding of my lawn area. The seed used was of the best quality (Kentucky bluegrass) and costs over $1000.00 for seed alone. The second year I hired and signed a contract with TruGreen for their lawn service. TruGreen responded well and by the end of that year my lawn looked really good. On the third year I again signed a contract with TruGreen for their services.

By the end of that year my lawn looked really great and was like a plush carpet. It became a model for the neighborhood. By the end of that year, I started to notice a change in the service provided. TruGreen was late for the last two application by as much as four weeks. I complained and was given a number of reason, none of which made much sense. I gave TruGreen the benefit of the doubt and signed for the fourth or current year. That was a big mistake on my part as it's been all downhill since.

They were again late with applications. I called and complained and they assured me all would be well. My early spring application should have been at the beginning of April but was never applied until the end of the first week in May. I wrote to the local TruGreen manager complaining about the service, but never received any response. In the past three weeks I have called three times and requested a review of my lawn by one of their managers. On the third call they did respond but after talking to that person it became rather apparent that he lacked the knowledge necessary to advise or suggest a solution. Basically he just stood, listened to me but did not suggest or offer remedies to my lawn trouble.

That was a week ago and I have yet to hear from TruGeen. My lawn looks really bad and has thinned out considerably. What was once plush and green is now half grass and half mud. It's disgusting and many of my new neighbors have asked what's wrong. Homes built well after mine have lawns to be proud of. I've spent a lot of money to have a good lawn and TruGeen destroyed what was once plush and green. It's also been a source of continued aggravation for me. Now I get the same paperwork but without the billing info. Bills come erratically and not always timely. I have outstanding balances because of the crediting lags and then I call and I have credits. I do not have time to create a balance sheet and keep track of each individual charge. It is difficult to decipher what services have been completed.

There is no reference number on the paperwork dropped at the door to cross reference with the invoice that comes at a later date. Now I get phone calls that are recordings regarding my account asking me to hold while they take their time to come to actually state the purpose of the call. I consider it harassment to receive a call, sometimes multiple calls about an invoice I have yet to receive. It has become a full time job to handle my account.

I contacted TruGreen in mid August and was advised they were grass experts and would improve the health and overall appearance of my yard. They made the first application of fertilizer at the end of August.

Three weeks after the application, the lawn started turning brown in patches. I suspected it was burning due to the fertilizer application. They added root stimulator and micro-nutrients (whatever that is). The yard did not improve. I have contacted the sales rep, local manager, regional manager and corporate. The lawn has not improved and the last idiot they sent said I might have to resod areas at my expense.

I have cancelled the contact as of early December and would not recommend them to anyone. P.S. Their accounting system is not good and we argued with them for two months about an invoice they should not have sent.

This company totally fails in communication. I would fault the corporate office on down to the local GM in my city. I asked for aeration, seeding, and lime. The company billed me separately for each item when performing one visit. This type of management is archaic and no customer should have to experience such chaotic experience. I have had problem with this company every time I do business with them and nothing has changed. They continue to trip over each other and provide duplicate phone services, ** off the very customer they are trying to serve.

I’m not sure how any corporate organization during these economic times operates to chase customers away. I see from this site that they are one of the most complained about companies. The only way to help correct this type of problem is to contact corporate officers. They are so insulated by corporate customer support that a customer is unable to go any higher to get to the higher-archy, again consistent with TruGreen listed as one of the most complained about companies. No consumer should have to beg for service from any vender. Therefore, I do not recommend this company to anyone.

We were solicited at home to sign up for TruGreen lawn service. Our lawn was evaluated on the spot and we were told we needed aeration and deep seeding to combat invasive grasses and compacted soil. We signed up. A technician showed up on Sept. 10, day number 17 of a regional drought, to aerate and deep seed our lawn. Needless to say, the aerator had no affect on the brick hard ground. No plugs of earth were created, nowhere for the seed to go. TruGreen has a satisfaction guarantee. We called to express our concerns and ended up cancelling our contract out of frustration in trying to deal with the management at the TruGreen office.

We were contacted in writing by the office of Kevin ***, general manager of the DC North branch. TruGreen wants our business again. They want to make things right. I talked to another manager and am told a technician would be sent to aerate the lawn free of charge, if we sign up for their services again. (We have already paid for the previous, ineffective aeration and several other visits by this time).

We said we would give them another chance. A technician arrives several days later but he fertilizes the lawn instead. We called and founnd out the free aeration had never been scheduled but they would put in a request. A technician shows up several days later and drops more seed on the lawn but does not aerate. We called again and are told the technician would be scheduled to aerate. A week goes by, we called to find out when we can expect to see the service and are told that the service order had been cancelled by the technician.

I then scheduled a visit with the technician. He came to my house and said the lawn looks fine, except where it's dead or has been taken over by invasive grasses and he will not aerate because aeration will not work on our soil because it is compacted. The technician said he can leave me more seed however or charge us for another application of fertilizer. Meanwhile, several of our neighbors have rented a machine and have successfully aerated their own lawns at a fraction of what we have spent on TruGreen.

TruGreen does not live up to its promise of customer satisfaction. The attitude from the managers is the epitome of rude and unprofessional. We have spent hundreds of dollars and still have not received a true aeration of our lawn. We are cancelling our service again.

Similar to other reviews, I never saw a change (positive or negative) in my lawn. However, I did receive erroneous bills. They never, even months later have charged me correctly. I have tried to resolve this with customer service reps, managers and finally through the better business bureau. After we requested service be postponed while I attempted to explain to them how much we owed (since they couldn't figure it out), they provided more services, then tried to charge us again.

While working out negotiations through the Better Business Bureau, their main concern was that we kept services so they could mark the BBB claim as resolved. They offered refunds and free services if we'd continue with them. When I was not interested in doing that, they quit working with us. I have no idea what they will ultimately charge us. They have quoted us everything from $90 to a credit of $16.

I received a call on September 25th 2010 stating that TruGreen was coming to my residence for another lawn treatment. I was already dissatisfied with their previous service treatments because after three treatments, my front and side lawn (sod grass) was beginning to have large patches of dead grass. This was a direct result of the pesticides that the company had put down to control the weeds. My lawn which I had paid $6000 for sod on the front and sides was dying. I called TruGreen prior to the last treatment and they said that the lawn needed to be irrigated/thatched. I said that I didn't want the service.

On Monday, September 27th, I called off the service. The Customer Service Representative kept trying to get me to renew. He was very persistent. He offered me a discount and wanted to send somebody out to look at the lawn again to recommend additional treatments. I said no, I don't want your service anymore.

I finally got a confirmation number on September 27th and there was heavy rain all morning and I was home at the time. According to TruGreen, they came out and did a treatment anyway and then tried to tell me that their records showed that I cancelled on September 28th. I said that was a lie and read back the cancellation number given to me on September 27th. The operator told me that they had to refer to their manager.

On October 9th, I received a phone call from TruGreen stating that I owe them $254. I had received a previous invoice number ** stating for the last treatment I cancelled, I owe them $129.27. I then explained to the individual that I cancelled the contract. I owe nothing and up to that point, September 27th, I had no balance. The person named Natalie called me back and said that I cancelled on September 28th. I said I didn't and gave the cancellation number for September 27th. The representative for TruGreen said that I owe this bill and I said that I am not paying for something that I cancelled. She replied that after 90 days, it would be referred to collections. What a nerve! I refused to pay this bill for something I cancelled.

There were large patches of dead grass on the front and sides of my lawn. Currently, I had to place five yards of new topsoil down, reseed and water lawn and now I am hoping that the grass grows back; if not then I will have to replace the sod grass in the areas damaged.

I called and they said it was rescheduled for Thursday but I had not been advised. On Thursday they did not show and I called again and was told it was rescheduled for Saturday. My wife was approached back in August of 2010 by a field representative and offered lawn care service since other neighbors in the development were also using their service. As an incentive to sign up "now", a fifty dollar off coupon (discount) was offered and an area manager was to contact me by phone to outline the services expected and to schedule the first visit. No one called. However within three weeks from initial contact, we arrive home after work and find that a little warning sign was placed in our yard stating that chemicals had been applied and caution needed to be used. The tag stated that it was for insect control.

Within the week, we received a bill (invoice) for $62 for "Fall lawn service". We called Trugreen immediately and inquired as to why they were applying insect control at the end of the season and why the $50 credit does not show up. She was told that we needed to present the coupon in order to receive the discount. We were never told this tidbit at the time of the sale. Additionally, no one ever contacted us to outline the upcoming service.

At the beginning of October, my wife was again approached by a salesman stating that our lawn need the autumn aeration and seeding but for a separate price of $195 which would need to be billed separately from the lawn care. She agreed to the service and the price but asked if the service could be performed while we were at home. A date of October 09, 2011 was agreed upon by both and we anticipated the service.

On October 8th, we received an invoice for the "fall lawn service" and stating that the service had been performed on October 6th. We called the corporate number to complain that the service was supposedly performed on a date not agreed to, and the service had not been performed as there was no "telltale" evidence that the yard had been aerated (no cylindrical holes in the yard and no evidence of seeding).

On October 11th, Trugreen called my cell phone number inquiring if I was ready to settle the invoice for the fall lawn care. I again mentioned that the service had never been performed and that I needed a manager to contact me to inspect the lack of work that they were billing for. They stated that a Mr. Donald ** would be contacting me within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Mr. ** never contacted me. I have made at least five subsequent calls to the corporate office and each time was assured that the situation would be corrected and that Mr. ** would contact me within 24 to 48 hours.

After two frustrating weeks and more calls to TruGreen, I finally was able to reach a manager. Mr. John ** was contacted at 6:35 pm, October 19, 2010 and after seeing the record of the calls made, agreed to issue a full credit for the work not performed and to issue the $50 discount to the original invoice for the initial service that "supposedly" had been performed. He mentioned that he would have Mr. ** contact me to set up a time to perform the service being billed but was told that I was satisfied with getting the credit and cancelling any service Trugreen would perform. I terminated the service altogether.

I will endeavor to acquire a beautiful lawn in the spring without the help (or no help) of TruGreen. I will never use their service again and if they approach my home with any sales pitches, they will be sent packing directly.

My complaint is like so many I've already read. In the spring of 2010, Chemlawn called and talked to my husband about service. I ignored their calls. We had used them the previous year, 2009, after an absence for a while. In 2009, we had a spring and fall application. When my husband got off the phone, I questioned him about signing up again but he said he only agreed to one application in the spring. I called them to ask about my putting down grass seed and how would their spray affect the seed. They said it would inhibit sprouting, so I said be sure I'm home when the kid comes so I can direct his area of spray away from the new grass. He came. I was there. He sprayed appropriate areas.

One Sept. day, I returned home to find the sign in my yard indicating they had sprayed a fall application and received a bill. When I called to say this was unauthorized and I wouldn't pay the bill, they said it's like a phone or newspaper bill . The service just keeps going. If that's the case, why did they call that spring and speak with my husband if not to initiate service?

They are adamant about receiving payment and have already called to demand such. Without a written agreement, why am I obligated to pay? I am so frustrated! Has anyone found any avenue of recourse? This seems to be a common (bad) practice of this company. I plan to spread the word to my family and friends of their poor business practices .

Tru Green came out to my house and offered to beat their competitor, Scotts Lawn Service, with a better lawn and better price. Well, I tell you, this has been a complete nightmare! They started in August 2010 (it is now October 2010) and the treatments are supposed to be every two months just like Scotts Lawn Service. Scotts charges were $37 per two months; Tru Green supposedly treated my yard on the beginning of August (this is exactly two months from Scotts Lawn treatment), and I noticed immediately that my beautiful green bermuda grass turned brown and started to die!

They said that my first payment was on them; it was some special promotion they were having. Well, on August 16th 2010, they deducted $37 from my account. I was angered because they completely lied, so I stopped any future deductions from them but then they continued to try and deduct additional payments throughout August and September without treating again and no treatment was due anyways.

Well, near the end of September, they send a technician out to observe the lawn. They leave a note on the door stating that the lawn looks green and lively, but no, it did not. They ruined my lawn! I went back to Scotts who fixed my yard, thank goodness, and I pay my payments to them online. They are so sure of their service and you pay after treatment.

Believe me, once you see your lawn, you will continue service with them. Much unlike Tru Green whose customer service is rude and horrible. They had the audacity to call and yell at me over the phone while I was at work, telling me that I owed them $117? How is that? It's only October 11th 2010, not even two months yet and no treatment was due! The representative said that they tried to authorize three treatment payments in September and they declined. I was floored. No one authorized three treatments of anything.

I will never deal with such an unprofessional company again. I am much happier back with Scotts and their technicians and customer service are very professional and courteous. Tru Green ruined my lawn and they continue to call and harass me after I told them that I do not want their service.

The result was that whatever was used, burned out my grass and I had more weeds than ever. I repeatedly called for an inspector, supervisor or manager to come out and inspect the lawn. I called again and again without any satisfaction. Jennifer would tell me okay and nothing.

Finally, I called and said, "Do not make any more applications to my lawn until a manager comes to inspect my lawn." Once again, Jennifer made note of that. Three days later, while I was out of town, Cody had made application to my lawn. I called to complain that the application was made after I requested it not to be until I had met with a manager. Jennifer's response was, "Oh, yes. It is written here, but you won't be charged for the application." I told her that I am very concerned about the damage that the chemicals have caused my lawn and I wanted a manager to come out and inspect it.

This is six to seven weeks of complaints without response! She said that she would pass it on. Another week or two later, I just called and cancelled the service with TruGreen. The next day, a man named Charles called, after I repeatedly told him "no, it was too late and that they had more than enough time to fix the problem." He pleaded with me asking to use these last three months, October to December, to fix the problem. He had worn me down and I agreed that if they could fix it, I would give them a chance.

A few moments later, a woman called me renewing my agreement with TruGreen. I explained to her that what I agreed to was that TruGreen could fix the problem and I would consider it after that. She said that Charles said that I was renewing my service beginning in January 2011. I told her, "Never mind. I do not want TruGreen and tell Charles not to call me today." Since September 28, 2010, I have received phone calls from 727-538-1620--over 20 phone calls--without leaving a message.

We have had our lawn by these people for about 3 or 4 years. They come 5 times during the summer for treatment of bugs and make the lawn greener. This year we had a few brown patches all over. We have asked several times what the problem was, they say it's the hot weather. The last treatment we had another guy named Bret with Corwell look at the lawn, he said we had sod worms and it needs to be treated. I thought what they have done in the past should have taken care of this. We have called 4 times and nobody gets back with us on this problem. I think they should fix the problem at no cost to us! We will not have them back next season, we will find someone else.

In June 2009, Tim from TruGreen came out and gave us a quote for 1 year's worth of service. This estimate included 1 lime treatment and 7 fertilization. We agreed to pre-pay for the 1 lime and 7 fertilization. In Feb 2010, we received a bill for a lime treatment. I called to ask why I was receiving a bill since I had pre-paid for 1 year. They explained they had put lime on my yard in June and again in Feb. Why? You should only put lime on your yard once per year. They agreed and said they would remove the charge.

I kept receiving bills for the lime treatment. I kept calling back and was continually told that the charge would be removed. I started getting bills from collection agencies for this lime application. Finally, after about 6 bills and 6 calls, the charge was removed. Then, I started receiving a bill for a fertilization. You have to be kidding me! This was in April of 2010. So, again, I called and called and called. I was told that the charge would be removed. This week, I received 2 letters from 2 different collection agencies on the charge for this fertilization. Today, I spoke to 2 different people at TruGreen. It turns out that they put fertilizer on my yard 8 times in 10 months time! That includes the winter! Crazy! And, they want me to pay them for the 8th application.

Have you ever heard of any lawn company applying fertilizer 8 times in 10 months? That is every 6 weeks all winter long. Seriously? So, I am now waiting for a manager to call me back. However, Emanuel, the second employee I spoke with today, can't tell me his manager's name or give me any time frame in which the manager will be calling me back. I am serious. Can you imagine? Guardian sold out to TruGreen in June of 2010. At the end of June, beginning of July, TruGreen assumed Guardian's responsibilities to my lawn, trees, and shrubs. The payment for services had been made to Guardian.

I called TruGreen in early July because one of my plum trees and several shrubs looked like they were dying. I was told that TruGreen had not yet entered the newly acquired customers into their database and that I would have to wait for service. When I insisted, the agent told me she would send someone to my property. A week later, I received a written response that someone checked the tree and that there was noticeable girdling. TruGreen never addressed the dying bushes nor gave me any remedy for the tree. I e-mailed TruGreen several times and complained about my lawn, which also started to look as though it was diseased but no one addressed the lawn.

I only received a written note, again, about my original complaint regarding the plum tree stating that the tree was falling over. When I inspected the tree, it did not look as if it was falling over. No solutions were provided by TruGreen. When I called TruGreen's main office in Tennessee, I was told that TruGreen was not maintaining my lawn and I only had tree and shrub service. I sent e-mails to TruGreen with photos complaining about their service and they just ignored me.

Trugreen Service has ruined my lawn. I signed up in August 2009 and was very happy initially and saw some consistent improvement in my lawn until the June 2010 service. A week after that service, I had a very distressed looking lawn and called for a follow-up. I was told it was due to "fungus", but I do not believe that was the case. I then noticed several dead spots which continued to grow and spread. In spite of having patience and calling for additional service, there was no improvement. I now had a 10-foot diameter dead spot in the back and numerous problems elsewhere.

On August 3, I called for a Managers Service Call. No response. Approximately 10 days later, I called again and was told that "Paul" would be contacting me. No response. On the 18th of August (Wednesday), I called again and then received a call back from "Paul". He was very dismissive and told me he had never received a message regarding my case and that he "was out of the office a lot". He said he would come and take a look at my lawn on Friday, August 18, and would call me after he had been here. Again, no response from TruGreen.

On Tuesday, August 24th, after receiving no communication, I called TruGreen to cancel my service and was disconnected after voicing my complaints. I called back to verify that my service had been canceled and it was. The representative encouraged me to call the corporate 800 number to voice my complaints. I did and spoke with Ed and gave him the rundown on what had transpired. He told me that he would contact the local office and that a manager would visit my lawn and contact me within 2 days. I expressed skepticism that they would provide service to someone who was no longer a customer, but he assured me that my (former) account was important to TruGreen. That was weeks ago and it is now a joke--when I come home I ask, "Honey, was the TruGreen manager here today? "

It makes no sense to spend money and time on a "service" that is nonexistent. Now, I have a lawn that has a lot of problems will cost a good deal to correct and I've wasted a year of time dealing with TruGreen. Huge dead spots in my lawn, lots of weeds. I need to replace around $150 worth of sod and get rid of the weeds in parts of the lawn that have recovered from TruGreen's "care".

A worthless company don't give them your business or they'll give you the business. I handed them a years worth of payments and I have a lawn that looks worse than it did before I initiated service with TruGreen.

It took two years, but in 2009, we were very happy with our lush, green yard. Not so this year! It started out okay in the spring but as the dry summer wore on, our grass turned brown along with everyone else's. The only problem is it never recovered.

There are very large patches of dead (not just dormant) grass. It looks very much like fertilizer burn. Last application was 07/21. A service manager came out to inspect and told us pretty much what I expected. "Neighbors yards are green because they have weeds. You don't." But we don't have green grass, either! Gave no explanation as to why our grass is dead. Just offered to do some "seeding work" in the fall at no charge. But we are left to water if it doesn't rain and hope it grows and comes up in the spring. I'd just like them to admit they did something wrong to cause the problem and give us our money back. Service has been canceled and I will never use Trugreen again! Large areas of dead grass in our yard. Will most likely have to spend hours replanting and watering in the spring of 2011 as well as paying for seed, topsoil, etc.

I started using TruGreen in January of 2010. They started spraying for the normal weeds--dandelions, crabgrass, nutgrass and other assorted weeds. For some reason, my lawn is divided into 1/2 as Bermuda and the other 1/2 as St. Augustine. TruGreen applied the same spray to both sections. Weeds grew until I had a field of weeds and my St. Augustine started to die, becoming brown spots all over. TruGreen came back multiple times to spray for the weeds. It took them until August of 2010 to eliminate most, but not all weeds.

In July, the field manager came out to look at my lawn. He set up a schedule whereby TruGreen would kill off all of the St. Augustine and then sod with Bermuda. This schedule included discounts on all applications until my yard is repaired. I continue to get billed the full amount and have to call customer service multiple times to get this resolved. I was informed by the field manager that TruGreen would come out to lay sod during the week of Aug 23-27. An exact day was not provided at that time. No one came out. To start off, not all lawns are to be treated the same! I conveyed to the initial salesperson that I had been working on getting grass in my lawn for 2 years. I finally had a good amount of grass growing in my front yard and around my patio in the back. I put down tons of grass seed and top soil in order for it to grow. When I spoke to the salesperson, I explained all of this, in other words, this was not well established grass but new grass, grass that should not be over fertilized. Assuming he knew what he was talking about, I thought I would give it a shot to maybe really bring my yard around. I was wrong.

The first application was on 3/3-9 followed by 5/1, 6/14 6/28 and 7/31 (last one, I had cancelled the service on 7/30). I had complained early on that the weeds were multiplying vs dying, hence another application. And though there was a crabgrass application put down, it thrived along with every weed. It slowly killed off any grass I had growing and left plenty of room for the weeds to take over, which I might add, was the exact opposite of what they told me was supposed to happen. Currently, I have literally no real grass growing but all weeds even after 5 applications. All the work and effort I had put in to achieve a green lawn is gone. In the spring, I will have to start over which means hundreds of dollars I spent to get the grass to grow, including Trugreens fees, is up in smoke. I truly believe I would have done better on my own. At least, I had grass amongst the weeds. All gone now(!) burnt up from the fertilizer!

Also, after I complained, they sent a tech whom I spoke with. I showed him one of the weeds growing all over the place, and he had no idea what it was. I looked it up and it was a very common weed called nutgrass. I would think the techs would know that. That is another indication that the techs are not really knowledgeable, but do what they are told to do, lay another application. Another complaint is that, by accident, I overpaid by $40. On my second call to the office in trying to stop the service, I relayed it to the person I spoke with and she said that she could see that. So to me, they knew my account was overpaid by 40 but continued to be billed for services. I made the overpayment on May 1st. My concern was that they never intended to give that back!

Then when I called on 8/11 and complained that someone had come out on 7/31 and laid an application after I called and cancelled on 7/30, they said that I cancelled with the sales dept and that had nothing to do with them. I demanded to talk to a manager and they gave me the office supervisor. He in turn asked that I pay for at least half since I would benefit from the application. I thought these people are nuts! They already had an additional $40 from me and then ask for me to pay another $20 for an application I had canceled. I did receive a check for the additional overpayment about a week and a half later. My concern is that if I had not noticed that, I am not sure they would have paid it back?

The bottom line is, never hire a lawn service if they do not listen to what you initially tell them. Again, all lawns are not the same and should not be treated as such. Real experts would know how to handle that. Obviously, Trugreen are not real experts and I would never recommend them. They, like many, many others are just interested in making a buck vs what their service is truly about. My advice, if you are working with a new lawn and new grass, do not ever hire a company such as Trugreen to treat your lawn. Their answer to everything is another application vs getting down to what the real problem is. My lawn should have never been treated with that much fertilizer.

One last comment: my daughter came home from college and looked out into the yard and said "what happened to the grass?" She knew nothing of my complaints about Trugreen. I think that pretty much says it all! I spent hours/days for two years on getting grass to grow around the perimeter of my house and now it is all weeds. I spent a ton of money on seed and top soil which, I might add, that I hauled bag by bag and put around my yard. Again, the grass is gone, weeds are thriving, thanks to Trugreen and their expertise.

I have to say that TruGreen did, in fact, do a great job on our lawn last year! It was horrible beforehand due to the fact that our city tore up the street and the replanting of soil and sod was poor quality (that's being nice about it).

This year, though, has been another story. Weeds kept reappearing. Crabgrass was abundant. I called TruGreen a few times after their field rep sprayed to complain. They did come out again and respray, but the technician (or whatever his position is called) told me that they weren't totally responsible for the crabgrass and weeds since there was an abundance of it from our surrounding neighbors, and that the seeds just blow over and there's nothing that I nor they can do to stop it.

Oay, so if that's the case, why do I need TruGreen at all? Well, because I do take pride in my yard and property, unlike some others om our street. But if their tech is going to tell me that their service can't stop what's happening, then I guess it's someone getting a makeover before going to the gym. What's the point if the treatment is going to be a waste of time?

I probably wouldn't have even bothered writing this today except for the fact that I've been reading complaints online, which made my decision to cancel easier. But among those complaints were so many people saying that they stopped the service, yet continued to get billed and also many customers saying that they wondered if TruGreen ever treated their lawn at all. This caught my attention yesterday because even former employees stated that they said that they cheated customers due to needing to meet productivity levels that were almost unattainable in a 10-hour day.

Anyhow, after canceling yesterday, TruGreen showed up today. I didn't catch the guy in time to tell him not to spray, that we had canceled yesterday, so supposedly our lawn was "treated". I only knew of this because I opened the front door to check our mailbox, but noticed the TruGreen statement attached to the screen door.

Funny, though, it stated that he was there at 1:35pm, yet I looked at the clock and it was 1:30pm. Okay, so maybe his watch is running fast, but then he must've been running fast himself because there was no way he could've even sprayed for ten minutes since I had just gotten home. However, usually after they treat our lawn, there is a distinct chemical odor in the air. I couldn't smell it. I went into our backyard and couldn't smell a thing either. I even got on my knees in order to sniff the grass. Usually there is a glistened look on the grass blades as well from the chemicals, but I didn't see this.

So I think it's safe to come to the conclusion that he didn't bother spraying. I can't prove it since I didn't see him not spray, but the evidence certainly wasn't on our lawn or in the air. Did he actually stop just to write a bill and place that warning stick into our grass? I don't know.

I immediately called their office, telling Emily (their customer service rep) about the time discrepancy on their bill/statement and, more importantly, the fact that we canceled their service yesterday. She told me that I could disregard the bill (of course, I'm going to disregard it. But they better not send me a statement either), but she didn't seem the least bit concerned nor offered to direct me to a manager when I told her about my doubts that their tech even sprayed. I mean, come on, there was no residue at all! However, she really didn't care, as I could tell by the tone of her voice.

I've spent more time in my yard this summer than I wanted to due to the abundance of weeds and crabgrass, figuring that the hiring of TruGreen would alleviate some time and labor. If someone looked at my yard today, it's because of what I did, not TruGreen, because I am willing to bet that I've spent 5-6 hours over the last month hand-pulling weeds and crabgrass. So if they ever came by (not that they would since they really don't care) and said, "Your lawn looks good to me," it would only be because I was on my hands and knees tending to it myself.

So, for anyone coming across complaint sections in forums regarding TruGreen where some former techs have claimed to be "ghosting" (claiming to treat a lawn when they actually didn't) services, I can now say, sadly, firsthand that this actually does occur.

I hope that they don't screw with the billing part. I won't get into that until it happens, but they definitely didn't treat my lawn as they've been saying, which might be why I've pulled so many weeds and crabgrass by hand over the past month.

If my lawn was a glowing green jewel of a lawn, I might forgive the multiple billing issues. Alas, it has deteriorated while under TruGreen's care. First, TruGreen charged my credit card a $45.00 monthly fee five times in one month. Instead of $45.00, my card was charged $225.00.

Then I opted to pay a year in advance, yet I continued to receive bills. Every time I received a bill, I'd call and explain that I'd paid a year in advance. The TruGreen customer service rep would apologize. Finally, today I asked for a supervisor. I spoke to Jody. She explained that their computer system often double charges accounts and every day she goes through the charges and organizes the refunds. So why did I get hit five times? "I was on vacation," Jody explained. "I called everybody when I got back." Oh. That makes it all OK. (Not!)

Why wasn't someone else looking for double charges while supervisor Jody enjoyed her time away? And why am I still getting bills and phone calls about being late with a payment when I've paid in advance? "We accidentally refunded your advance payment," Jody explained. Yup, that whole year's worth of lawn care that I thought was paid in full when I paid my June credit card balance is—gone. I have to budget for it all over again. Yes, as Jody not so helpfully pointed out repeatedly on the phone today, TruGreen did give me my money back. But in June my husband and I were preparing to travel in Asia. And with a slew of additional expenses associated with that, the refund went unnoticed.

Apparently, TruGreen doesn't care that their bad billing practices could put someone over the limit, incurring fees and tying up funds that might be needed for other things. I may have been refunded my money, but it feels like I have to spend it twice. And no one can give me back the time I have spent on the phone with TruGreen, sifting through old credit card statements trying to sort this mess out. Stay away from TruGreen unless you like spending your days off on hold while customer service reps prepare to apologize with barely concealed irritation. My lawn has weeds and spots of dead grass. I lost time and I have to budget for lawn care all over again.

Hired TruGreen to save our yard from neighbors on both sides with weeds and wild grasses. Our yard was plush and green, double mowed twice a week. Beautiful. We thought we were taking a preventative measure, but what we got was fertilizer burn in huge 3 foot stripes all across our front yard as well as the backyard. We have called multiple times with little luck getting a return phone call. No reimbursement for such bad services. A month later, our yard was treated again and looks the same with bald, dead spots. Now they say the yard has a fungus! A new tech treated this week and had no clue of previous damage done. We have continuously watered our yard days on end—with a water bill to prove it. We will have to either sod or seed the dead spots in front and back yards.

Customer service is unprofessional and incompetent while the billing practices are underhanded. Specifically, the last name was spelled incorrectly when I opened my account and it took 6 phone calls to get it changed. I was assured the name was changed the whole time. Multiple representatives would interrupt and/or talk over me (Nick in the National Center is the latest). As for the billing issues, sending statements every 2 weeks led me to make duplicate payments in July. It took contact with a supervisor to sort it out. Now I receive a bill while I still have a credit on my account and find out (after speaking to Nick) that my credit is on my "bug" account, not my "lawn" account. I receive a bill from TruGreen not multiple vendors and expect to pay one vendor. If TruGreen can't hire personnel that can change a name on an account or how to group services for a single customer into one bill (and never tell the customer), how can I trust that TruGreen has any idea how to perform the lawn services correctly? Please feel free to contact me.

I responded to a door hanger, Doug ** came to my home and explained the program. He stated it was a $400 a year cost, the first 2 treatments were $25 each, other treatments every 4 to 6 weeks. My first credit card debit was for $75, I questioned the bill through customer service and was told it was for $25 crab grass treatment and $50 regular treatment. After explaining what I was promised, I was given a $25 credit. Eight days later. my yard was treated again for crab grass at another debit of $25.

I again called customer service and was told that is normal procedure. My yard is very small, at the initial visit I explained I need to know in advance to keep my dogs inside so the backyard can be serviced. No notice was given, customer service had no knowledge of my dog situation. The backyard was not treated on this second crab grass treatment. During that call, I canceled the service. Within 8 days they charged my credit card $108. I called after the cancellation and asked if they had a note regarding the $25 credit, they did not. I will pay the $108 and be done with them. I will teach myself to treat my lawn and not be taken to the cleaners by this company.

In 2009, I hired Trugreen to service (fertilizer and pesticides) my lawn. They destroyed it completely! I have called them several times and they 'claimed' that they took care of it. At end of the year, I got bald spots, weed and wild grass. Now, I believe that they planted all these in my yard so that I need their service again this year. They kept sending me offers but obviously I never responded. Finally, they sent a different person. I literally yelled at him and clearly said to him that I did not need their 'service'. He said he is a new person and will do better job. I told him that I was looking for a few quotes and if he guarantees a beautiful yard, they need to give me one price for all application needed to fix my lawn (last year, they did keep calling me and pressing me for more expensive additional services). He agreed to send me their quote and asked me to sign a paper to show to his company that he met me. After I signed, he wrote all kinds of stuff above my signature and started sending me a bill for the service! I called their office, the lady was even worse than the 'fraud' they had sent to my home.

Now today I got a letter "pretending" a request from a collection agency. They thought by threatening an old man, they would both extort some money from me. They don't know who they are dealing with. I will spend money to expose these "TruCrook' but will not pay a penny! This is mental harassment sending bills and threatening letters.

In the fall of 2009, we started using the services of Trugreen with much excitement. Right before the winter frost they aerated our lawn poorly, we called them, they came back and did it again, no problems. When spring came around, we noticed how lush and green the grass was growing and we got excited about the coming 2010 summer of finally having a healthy lawn. After the first spray for weeds, we noticed a decrease in the green and fullness of the lawn. My husband then asked for them to call before coming out so that we could talk about ways to keep the lawn green and full. They never called before coming out and all of their comments made it our fault the grass wasn't growing green and full.

After the fifth treatment, the technician suggested on his carbon slip he left in the door that we water the grass more. Minnesota has had an unseasonably wet summer, so the suggestion was ludicrous, but we did it anyway. The next slip on the next visit suggested fall aeration, again! That was it. We cancelled our service. We are extremely frustrated and disappointed that we spent $36 a visit to have brown grass and our neighbors who don't take care of their lawn, have lush green grass. It brings me to tears every time I drive up to my house. Our grass looked better last year when we did everything ourselves. Now we have to put extra work into getting it green before the winter, in hopes that it takes so that we can put our house up for sale in the spring. It just frustrates me to no end. Trugreen should pay us for the damage they did to our lawn. Or at least give us our money back!

Our grass is dying. It's brown and the only green are the weeds.

To begin with, we have been a customer of Trugreen since 1978 when we lived in Concord, California. We used them when we were in Antioch, Ca too. When we moved to Sparks Nevada we signed up with their Reno branch right away. We have had good service up until recently. In April of 2010 we canceled our lawn care because our gardener said he would do it. We still have our tree and shrub care. The lawn did not look as good so the first week of August I called Sac. CA to reorder our lawn service. Nothing was done.

I called Iris in Reno to find out what happened. First I was told by a very rude Christina that we had a $41 balance and that they would do nothing until it was paid. This amount was for a lawn service that was charged in April of 2010 and never performed. The account was supposed to be credited and was never done. I called Sac. today 8-20-2010 and was told Iris was going to call me at work. She never did. As far as we are concerned we will drop all services with you and we have found another company to care for our yard and will never refer this company again. You will most likely not do anything about this complaint. With the economy in the shape it is in I would think you would want to keep customers happy.

In April of 2008 we moved into our new home that we had built. We had black dirt brought in for our new lawn. Due to us not being able to get sod and seed until the Fall, the rough dirt started to grow weeds like wild fire. I did not want to mow weeds on rough dirt so I called Trugree in Champaign, IL. They came to my home and told me that they could get rid of all the weed by spraying round up and it would be fine to plant in the fall. After about a month the weeds did not die so I called back and they sent someone else out to re-spray. This person told me that the previous sprayer had been fired and may not have done a good job. This time the spray worked and it killed everything. For the rest of the summer we had just black dirt as our yard.

In the Spring of the next year the builder came and laid sod in the front and seeded the back. This was professionally done. We took care of it as directed. The seed germinated and began to grow and the sod seemed to take as well. Witin a week of the seed germination the grass began to die. The entire back yard died and became black dirt again. I also noticed that the front sod was beginning to die in certain areas. My wife and I purchased several bags of seed and planed several more times. Each time it germinated then died. We have spent thousands of dollars renting tillers, slip seeders, having airration done, fertilizing, and seeding to try to get a yard to grow. We could never get the back to grow and the front kept dying off.

I called Trugreen and explained to them that ever since they sprayed my yard nothing would grow. We even lost several plants when we landscaped. The manager, Jason, came out and looked at the yard. He told me that they would take samples and test the soil and that they did not spray anything that would cause this to happen. They told me that the tests came back good and the soil was good to plant in. They did not test for chemicals however due to the cost. Jason told me to rent a tiller and till up the whole back yard and he would spray a charcoal solution that would absorb any chemicals in the yard. This was done in the fall and he said that he would come back in the Spring and re-seed the backyard.

In the Spring, Jason seeded and again we were able to get the back yard to germinate. This time, most of the yard took hold and began to grow. However there were several large spots that died off. We did have 3/4 of the yard full of grass that took. As the summer went on the crabgrass began to take over the yard which at this point we did not care because it was green and we could let the dogs out. The funny thing was that the crab grass did not grown in the areas where it died off. In fact nothing including weeds grew in the yard until after it was sprayed with what they said was a charcoal solution.

This time I called the District Manager, Spencer. I explained the situation and he came to take some of the top soil to grow beans and grass in a bucket in the office. He said that everything was growing for him so he came and re-did the areas that died both in the front and back. He told us to keep the soil moist and watered. We did this religiously and got it to germinate again. We noticed that again it was dying off again despite the watering (which is what we have done every time and can prove it with our huge water bill and neighbors).

I called Spencer back a few weeks later and explained that it germinated then died again and asked him to look at it. This time he was rude and said that he had stopped by on Friday and the soil was dry. (the one day we were out of town and it rained that night) He said that we were not to let it dry out and that it was our fault. He said that the soil that he took from our yard was growing stuff at the office and there was nothing else they would do. I told him that the only thing that has helped was the spraying of the charcoal solution but he refused to do it again. He said that the soil was fine and they did not have anything that they could spray that would cause this to happen especially after nearly 2 years. Spencer could not explain what was going on and refused to help any further.

At this point, I called another local company and explained the entire situation to them. They took soil samples as well and were going to test the PH and other levels to make sure what Trugreen was telling me was true. The new company felt that even if Trugreen did not want to do any more to help me they should have at least helped me figure out what was wrong. All I have wanted was a yard to let the dogs out in. We are stuck not know at this point what is wrong and if there is something deeper in the soil that kills the roots after the germination. The front looks awful and the back is worse. The fact of the matter is that the soil was growing everything under the sun before it was sprayed by Trugreen and now we can not get anything to grow in it, not even weeds.

Since signing up, we have had disease and more weeds than we have ever seen on our lawn before. We called TruGreen May 2010 to complain that it was not looking good. Finally on 6/14, Brendan came out and said our lawn was dry and that was why it was brown. We have an in ground sprinkler system that is working perfectly.

In November 2009, I became a 1st time homeowner in Lake Doe subdivision in Apopka, FL. On May, I put in new grass due to HOA threats to sue me if I didn't replace it immediately (the whole neighborhood had bad grass pretty much.) However, I spent $2,000.00 on new grass and $500 in water bills for the next 2 water bills to keep this new grass maintained.

Well, the end of May, the HOA sent TruGreen around the neighborhood to try to get us to keep the grass maintained through them. I decided that this would be a good idea because I wanted to keep my expensive grass maintained. At this time the grass was beautiful, no problems at all, nice and green with no weeds. Well, on June 1st, TruGreen came and sprayed my new grass with a chemical that had been sitting out over the "Long Memorial Day Weekend" (per TruGreen field supervisor) and within hours of spraying my grass it was burnt in appearance.

I called the TruGreen rep that had hung his sign on my door just days earlier and he gave me the # of the field supervisor, after arguing with me that my grass couldn't have been burnt already. Anyhow, I called the field supervisor and he came out a day later at which time the grass was yellowish/brown in color. He told us to keep watering the grass for 3 weeks and it "should come back. " Well 3 weeks past and the grass was still brown and now weeds were entering our yard from our neighbors yard because the new grass we put down is now weak and a grass "expert" that my fiance talked to said that this will happen when the grass is damaged.

2 weeks ago, the field supervisor finally made it out to my house again and I informed him that I am so unhappy and I want my grass completely replaced. It is just awful, now there are weeds, crabgrass, brown spots, dead spots, yellow spots and our neighbors weeds are greener than any part of my grass is! The field supervisor said he couldn't authorize a new lawn and wanted to plug certain areas, I told him, "No, absolutely not." I want my grass back to the way it was before that TruGreen rep ever stepped foot onto my property. He said he would have a general manager contact me because he couldn't authorize what I want.

On July 8th, I was contacted by the general manager who said he would be in Apopka on Saturday the 10th, however I informed him that I am a RN and I work night shift so he said he would leave a note that he was there and he could contact me on Sunday the 11th when I woke up. I never heard from him and there was never a note on my door.

I have called and left messages with the TruGreen office personnel for the general manager to call me back on the 22nd and 23rd but he hasn't called me back. I feel as if I am being avoided, I even told this to the girl who answered the phone yesterday and I also told her that if the general manager didn't call me back yesterday then I would be contacting a lawyer. He still did not call me back. I am beyond upset and just cannot understand how this company thinks they can get away with this.

Had my daughter sign up and was promised a referral fee. In July I started to do a reconciliation of all my transaction with TruGreen and noted that I was charged in December 2009. This was the 6th debit from my account. I had no extra work done and the original agreement was for 5 debits.

I was having a problem with wild violets, which they were told last year. They sent a representative out who told me nothing could be done cannot control. Called the company and they sent out a field manager. I gave him all the information about the debit on my account and explained that the violets were worse than last year. Got excuses hard to control and he wished I had been told when they sold me the contract. Explained the neighbor had same problem and was with a different company and their problem now controlled.

He said he would come out and have a couple of applications of weed control to correct the problem. Sprayed 1 time, no charge, however the next time weed control was done I was charged as 1 of my regular applications. TruGreen also came out to do an assessment of my lawn and stated I needed fertilizer and the weeds were under control. After several calls about the charge issue and promises it would be taken care of and someone would call me back, I took all of my documents to the local office on a Monday.

Again promised that I would be credited back to my account within 2 days. Friday drove to local office again and was told my account was already credited. Nothing in my account as yet complained about treatment for weeds and not fertilized. Said would send someone out. Also said never received credit for my daughter's referral. Was told would be taken care of also? In reviewing my applications, it appears that the weed emergent was not put on twice in the spring as it was done the previous year.

Trugreen switched to centralized screening of all existing customers having them call 614-431-0825 which is re-routed to Missouri. The contact at this number will not give out the local offices' (Columbus OH) telephone number as they state it is against company policy.

As a valued prepaying customer ($2000.00 per year) I cannot tolerate the bureaucracy to get local support for my residence in a day or two. After reading all the complaints filed against Trugreen, I believe this is their corporate tactic to insulate themselves from taking any action to any matter, especially as it deals with money issues.

In my most recent case, I had $421.66 charges for pruning my trees and shrubs. I received an explicit estimate in writing, but when the work was done, the servicemen failed (overlooked) to prune a large ash which was itemized at $75.00.

I brought this to the attention of the customer serviceman and reminded him three times over several weeks that I did not receive a credit for the $75.00 work not done. (I excused Trugreen from making a special trip back to finish the work. )

In the meantime, I did manage to obtain the unlisted local phone number for the Columbus office, and again reported the matter as I had not received a credit. The original work was quoted on 5-28-10 and work partially done on 6-4-10. Today is 7-23-10 and I have not received credit.

Class Action Material. The company policy on the website states that if the customer is not satisfied, then Trugreen will reimburse the client for 100% of the treatment. In this case I may be due the entire $424.66 for this job.

My husband contacted TruGreen to inquire about the services they provide and about their free diagnostics. We have never agreed to the services; however, TruGreen came to our house and treated our lawn without our permission nor confirmation twice. One of the treatments included pesticides which we would have never allowed to happen! We are very upset and feel violated about TruGreen entering our property and treating our lawn without our permission. Because we never gave permission to your services, we will not be paying the bill TruGreen sent us on multiple occasions. How can this be legal?

We have hired TruGreen to come and do our residential lawn. They applied 1 application that worked. On the second visit, no one showed up until I called the company and complained about not being called for the no-show. I don't think that they did anything at all because our weeds never died. Now they showed up yesterday for the 3rd treatment and didn't. I have tried all day to get a hold of customer service or a local office. I continue to be hung up on because there is "no one available"! I will not pay another bill until someone does their job!

I was charged $53.00 on my credit card for June lawn service. I have not received service since May. I called the Ocala number to investigate, but that number was disconnected. I then called the number on their official website, and it too has been disconnected.

This company was paid over $400 for lawn services that was not done and had damaged my lawn. No one has tried to do anything about this. I have spoken with the company several times. Beware of TruGreen.

In June they put some weed control down and fertilizer and killed my grass. The grass was only 2 years old, perfect lawn, I have pictures. Now my grass is dead in so many places, I have to replace the lawn. The manager came out, and gave me some story that it'll come back. He gave me a free granular fertilizer which did nothing. He admitted they put too strong an application down, but they do not replace the damage sod. So I, on a fixed income, have to pay more money out to replace the damage they did. It must be nice not to be held responsible for nothing as a lot of companies in Florida do.

We were asked by Alex of TruGreen if we were interested in lawn treatment. The price for the first treatment would be $30.00 and subsequent treatments would be $60.00. We agreed.

The first treatment was done and we received our first invoice for $30.00. A few days later, we received another invoice for $60.00 for treatment the same day. I immediately cancelled our service with the company and gave them a detailed reason. To date I have not been given any explanation for this incorrect billing. I wrote and called and have now been turned over to collections. Their last letter says that I have not responded to their request for payment. I sent my last letter to them the day it was received when I was given 5 days to respond.

I have now written to the collection agency and am hoping that this will be resolved. To make matters worse, a new salesman came to our door last week offering me lawn treatments for $45.00 per month. I told him about my problem with his company but he wasn't interested. I would not recommend this company to anyone, as I feel they are dishonest and do not stand behind what they say.

We were scheduled for a lawn service, and due to high demand, Nate (one of the managers) came out to perform the service. We were not going to be home, so we unlocked the gate to our backyard to allow Nate enter while we were gone. Upon our return later that afternoon, we discovered extensive damage to our wooden gate. The wood holding the hinges was split, causing the gate to drop and not open.

Additionally, the two large bolts holding the latch mechanism were ripped out of the wood. The gate was rigged to look normal, but it wasn't. After several phone calls to customer service, we were told that Nate found the gate that way, and that TruGreen would not repair the gate. His story is ludicrous, and had he truly found the gate in that condition, he should have called us on our cell phones to report the damage and not entered the back yard.

The quality of their service has changed drastically in the past year or so, as in very bad. They play games with your yard, not quite getting all the weeds and spraying only parts of your yard. They talk a good story about "fixing" the problems, but keep stringing you along, like selling you a used car. In talking to the field supervisors, it became obvious that the Ellenwood location, at least, Is running off the white employees and replacing them with blacks, mostly immigrant blacks. We're tired of their games with our yard.

I accepted a pay by application agreement from these clowns at $40 per application front and sides. When I got a call from their billing dept. they tried to collect $300+ for all 8 treatments they said I needed back in May 2010 and it is now the middle of July and I have not seen or heard from them again and I did not pay up front. I told them let's see your guaranteed results that you promise and I'll pay per treatment. How are they going to squeeze in 7 more treatments before fall? Exactly! They're not because I'm cancelling their wonderful no service and see if they come on my property after cancellation. Stay away from this outfit.

They are as shady as hovering storm clouds and obviously just as unreliable. What's funny is they will come all of the time to spray all of my surrounding neighbors' yards but skip right over mine and when I called July 15, 2010 to cancel they all of a sudden had me scheduled for tomorrow! What a load of **! They had the nerve to ask me if I've seen the results that have been promised. Uhh hello I said your company showed up 1 time to kill weeds but they came back because my further apps were ignored which tells me that he was clearly reading from a company script! I'll give my money to the more reliable tried and true lawn care chemical products.

In 2009, my husband had TruGreen apply lawn chemicals to our lawn. The service was in his name. Later in the year, my husband passed away. In 2010, I did not want the lawn service any longer. In the spring, I came home from work and found that a treatment had been applied. I telephoned the company to say that I never contracted for the service and that my husband was not alive to renew the service. I was told it automatically renewed. I told them I would not be paying because I never signed for any service of any type. I have been harassed too much by the company and I have explained too many times that I never signed a contract for service. I am sick and tired of their attitude, snide remarks and billing practices. Now, they are turning it over to a collection agency.
