I have been using TruGreen for more than 15 years, on and off with success. Last year, I was very dissatisfied. I told the salesman who called me that I would not be renewing my contract for this year. Immediately, a manager was sent to my house and he promised me that things were getting better. Give us another chance? I wanted to believe them so I agreed to one more year. This year, things have been even worse. My lawn is now almost completely brown and dead. What is not brown are weeds, many different kinds of weeds. A technician was in the neighborhood. I stopped him and asked him what was wrong with my lawn. He said drought. We have an automatic sprinkler system. He asked me what time of day we water, I said early morning before sunrise. He scratched his head and said he would get back to me.
I called and told TruGreen to stop all treatments until a manager came out to see me. They promised a call within the hour, no one called. I called again the next day and the woman on the phone told me that someone should have called me. Hmm, that's what I thought! He would call me back right away. You guess it, no one called! The next day, there was a receipt for 2 different $100 plus services that were done. Obviously, no one noticed the stop on my account. Day three, I called and asked for a supervisor and none were available. I explained that I stopped my service and yet two different services were performed. I have no intention of paying for either service. "Someone will call you back right away."
Three hours later, I called and was told that a service order would be put on my account and they would get back to me. Well, someone called and didn't leave his/her name. TruGreen used to be a great service, but has been going down for years (in my area anyway). There are beautiful lawns in my neighborhood and none are treated by TruGreen.

I hired TruGreen for lawn care. My lawn is overran with weeds and brown spots. It looks worse now by far than when we started with this company. We're told we were on a code red program, that a manager would observe the property on a weekly basis. Nobody ever followed up with it. We would be told they are coming on a certain day and not show up (numerous times). We would call the main service area office and they would say they will contact the local office. Then, no one would contact us or show up if they were supposed to. We would call back the service area office to follow up and they would say that the appointment was cancelled by someone, but no one would know or tell from whom.
We have a paper saying that an application of grub control was supposed to be applied at the end of a certain week on a Saturday and no one showed. We filled out the survey online from the address on the back of the form left and stated this among other problems that we were having. They stated that they will contact us shortly. That was 3 weeks ago. We have paid them for this service, which wasn't cheap, and they are not providing any service but we still are under contract. What is the recourse? On a personal note, I would never hire this company again nor would I recommend this company. I believe them to be purposely misleading and they should be looked at by any and all consumer protection agencies on their practices and promises that never materialize.

Terrible customer service - I dealt with The Fruitland Park, FL office for almost a year. I was overwhelmed with calls trying to add additional services. Repeated calls brought no relief, just more unscheduled visits. The right hand never knew what the left was doing. Even after I cancelled my service, I still received calls trying to schedule services. A manager visited and I explained the problems and he told me that it would take until the first of the year to get matters resolved.

I've been with TruGreen for over 30 years. Wow, what a mistake and it appears since they acquired Chemlawn, things have gotten worse. I've now tried to work through the Houston office for over 3 years to get rid of nut grass, dove weeds, etc. and yet no luck. I live on a golf course with Bermuda grass and I can tell you my lawn looks worse than most lawns and yet I pay more for a service monthly that I'm not getting today. They continue to treat the lawn - I'm not sure with what but the weeds get bigger and bigger. One thing for certain, they are always on time to collect money and even if you are one day late, they start to call. I guess I have been the fool but no longer. Apparently, they don't know what customer service is all about and without a doubt, this is a true rip off.

First of all, let me state that I have been a customer of TruGreen/ChemLawn for the most part since 2001 (I cancelled when they killed my first shrub in 2006, but came back in 2008 when I purchased a new home and needed green lawn). On May 31, 2012 (Thursday), TruGreen treated my trees and shrubs. The following Sunday, I noticed that one of my shrubs had strips of yellowing (like someone had sprayed). This same thing happened to me back in 2005-2006 (with the same company). I knew that they were going to deny any responsibility, so at first, I was going to simply replace the bush.
After further consideration, I decided to hold them responsible for the mistake they made (since they have a product guarantee). My initial contact with the office went just as I expected (denial). I insisted on speaking with the General Manager, Ray **. He told me that he did not see how they could be at fault since they only sprayed a pesticide. I insisted that he take ownership of this incident and his response was to offer me a different shrub that he had "laying around the office" as a replacement.
Of course, this was unacceptable to me, so I wrote two letters to the corporate office and also filed a complaint with the BBB. While corporate was of no help to me, the BBB complaint got me a response within 24 hours. Even after all of this drama, I had to continually pester Mr. ** until he replaced my shrub almost two months later. And his response to my complaint was to cancel my service (which I was going to do anyway once the matter was resolved). After all of this drama, last weekend, I had a visit from my neighbor who informed me that TruGreen charges him $25.00 less per service than I was being charged. That means I was paying $50.00 more per month for the same service! TruGreen really knows how to keep long-term, loyal customers!

I've been with T-G for two years now and the service and results are extremely poor. My grass shows no improvement and is polluted with crab grass, violet and many other unknown weeds. Also, I can no longer get the service manager to return my phone calls. About a week ago I called my local service office and requested an unscheduled weed control application, and I'm still waiting for someone to call with a service date. This I'm pretty sure will be my last year with T-G. Several of my neighbors use Scott's and their lawns look great! For my future lawn care it looks like "Goodbye T-G, hello Scott's"!

The lawn person came out in July and sprayed the lawn. It was on one of our 90+ days. The lawn burned up. Our lawn is dead and brown except for where it gets shade. The company sent a person out who told me that it was insect damage; not grubs, but surface insects. How can that be when my neighbors on either side do not treat their lawns and they look fine. They are all weeds but they are green. I am still waiting to see what TruGreen will do.

Lack of Quality - This is the first year that I have had TruGreen and it will be the last. Every normal treatment I had I would have to call and have them come back again. This was a bad experience and the company did not seem concerned. When I called and cancelled, the lady (?) I talked with kept telling me why they were so great and I told her 5 times I did not need the services and finally had to hang the phone up because she did not understand why I would want to cancel. It is a good thing she does not work for me, I would fire her. The service person called me two weeks later and said he would be by for my normal treatment. His company did not tell him I cancelled. I will tell everyone I know not to do business with TruGreen. They are a big company and just want your money. They just don't care.

I have been a TG customer for a number of years. Usually, I pay upfront for the discount and this year, I decided to pay after each application. I was on vacation the first three weeks of July when the bill arrived for my one application. When I got home, I had numerous calls on the answering machine related to my overdue bill and also paper statements. I immediately sent the statement back with my credit card number on it. Last week, I got a call that they wanted payment and I said that I had mailed the CC number to them and it should have arrived days before. They had no record of it. Two days ago, I got a letter saying they had received my remittance and something was wrong with my CC number.
Yesterday, I called the number listed and gave another woman my CC number. Today, I got a call and was told that if I did not give payment today for my one application, my bill would be turned over to collections and that there was no record that I had ever called yesterday or given my CC number. Today, for the third time in two weeks, I submitted my CC number to TG and canceled the rest of my lawn applications. What a fly by night outfit. I've never had so much trouble paying a bill.

I have used TruGreen Chem Lawn for 10 or more years, and have been satisfied with the service until this year. They call and say they will be here on a certain day, but they don't show up. I have to call and demand a day as to when they will be here. This is not satisfactory. I am looking for a new company to use next year. I pay for the treatment in full at the beginning of the year.

I spent a year and a half throwing money at these people for an individualized lawn service plan. What a joke. They just pulled up with the same truck they were spraying every other lawn with (not even taking into account the different grass types we have in this area). These yahoos once sprayed an entire treatment on my lawn during the fall when it was covered in 3 inches of leaves! After two return service calls in spring of 2012, which I might add I had to nag for despite being clearly promised by their company, it was clear they had no idea how to kill weeds or nourish my grass. My lawn looked the worst of any on the block. The grass would not grow and the weeds were taking over. I was the only one with their service. I fired them and called a local specialist who came out and immediately analyzed our problem. In only two of his treatments, our lawn was 100% better. Don't even think about hiring TruGreen.

I called TruGreen and signed up for a weed control program on 5/16/12. I informed the salesperson that I was planning on selling my house in the next few months and asked if the weeds would be killed by then and if TruGreen would reseed the lawn. I was told yes. I also asked if the seed would grow after a weed treatment. I was told yes and that the lawn should be in great shape by August. I told the salesperson that I did not want to sign up for the program, if the grass would not be in good condition in by August when I needed to put the house on the market. I was also told by the technician who did the first weed control treatment that TruGreen does not seed, as promised, and that I, myself, could seed a few days after the weed treatment. I was informed after I paid that TruGreen does not seed the lawn which was different from what the salesperson told me.
I have seeded myself several times and at a cost of a few hundred dollars and there is no grass growth despite watering every day. I called to ask for my money back since I now have to pay someone several hundred dollars to get the grass in shape so the house can be put on the market for sale. TruGreen refunded some of the money but I told them I want all of it refunded since they killed the grass, gave me misinformation about them seeding and how fast the grass would grow. I now have to spend a lot of money to fix the lawn that they ruined. I have asked three times via phone for the supervisor to call me and I am told they will call within twenty four hours. No return phone call has been received. I am stuck with a lawn that is ruined, unnecessary out of pocket expenses to repair damage inflicted by TruGreen and a delay in placing my house on the market.

I signed up for TruGreen service approximately three years ago. I have dogs in the backyard and asked when I signed up for the contract that I be serviced prior to 8AM, so I can have the dogs in and still get to work. I was told that would not be a problem. The first year was about 70% followed as agreed. The second year, all calls were routed to another state (which is FL, I live in GA); and there was no one local to talk to when service was not being done by 8AM. The second year was more like 90% of the time. I had no one local to talk to. Also, I have bermuda grass, and the service people kept changing, so consistent care for my lawn was not being done. I was told the reason for not being on time was other calls and trucks breaking down three times(?). One time, they showed up at 4PM, just as I happened to be home. And the person said he had just looked at the service sheet and realized he was supposed to be there by 8AM (so I know it is in the order sheet) and asked if it would be ok to service.
I decided to try one more year. This year (2012), they were not here one time prior to 8AM. In June, they came. Since I was not home, they only did the front yard; but I was billed for the full service. I called and asked to talk to a local rep and was told "We all work for TruGreen." I asked when I could get the backyard done. A date was set, and they were a no show again by 9AM. I had to go to work. I called and cancelled the service. I was told I would receive a corrected bill in five days. 15 days later, I had to call again for a corrected bill. I was told there was a note in my file to call me, but it never happened and the bill would be out during the week. I never received it. I would not recommend. They provide bad service and terrible customer service.

I have been a TruGreen customer for about 4 years. Up until about 4 months ago, the service was okay. My last two lawn appointments have been no-shows. The first time, I contacted them via their site about the missed appointment. I did not receive an apology nor an explanation. All they did was reschedule. Then it happened again, another missed appointment. This time, I did not bother contacting them about rescheduling. About 3 days after the missed appointment, I did receive a message that they set up another appointment. I called them to cancel because I had just had a pest control treatment done on my lawn and did not want Trugreen treating it at that point.
Even though I spoke to a live person to cancel, a technician showed up the next day and treated the yard anyway. I called the local office in Erie, CO and asked to speak to the manager. I was told that she would call me back in about an hour. I waited 2 hours for her to call until I called back. I was then told that she was unavailable. I then cancelled my entire service because I felt like I was being blown off. The manager, even after I cancelled due to poor customer service, didn't even bother to call me to apologize and try get my business back. TruGreen has too many competitors in this area to have such a non-caring attitude towards a customer. I will never recommend them to anybody because of this incident.

We signed up for a service last year for just 4 applications to see if we liked what it did for our lawn. I was told by the guy who sold us the applications last year that if we wanted to continue in 2012, to give them a call and they will continue. We never called them back to resume service for 2012. So they have been here May, June, and July; and they serviced my lawn when I never authorized them to continue. Also, they have been taking $115.00 out of my account. After I told them to cancel from day one, they applied the service in May. I do not recommend TruGreen.

I've been working with TruGreen for 10 years now, so the stuff I'll tell you is true. We overcharge for aeration. A 1000sq ft home, we charge $200 for aeration and overseeding, as well as all of our services. They work their employees to death, no lunches. Seriously, we got sued a couple of years ago and we settled out of court. Our turnover rate is crazy. I'm the longest staying employee at my branch in Sacramento. This has affected my personal life where I have almost gotten a divorce. I guess you can say this is a confession. Because of the economy, we have let go of some really hardworkers. It's so aggravating and we pollute the earth by draining mix chemicals in deserted fields in Sacramento.

They have never gotten my yard free of the weeds that came up after they started the service. The service I had before had my lawn looking wonderful. When TruGreen started, they assured me they would keep it that way. The rep even made a note of how good it looked. Now after 7 months, it is awful. Talking to a supervisor was like talking to a wall. Nothing mattered but what he thought. They have inched up every month so that they are coming every 4 weeks instead of every 7 to 8 like I was told.
I have found from neighbors that this seems to be what they do to everyone. They do not care about your lawn, they care about the billing! I will never recommend or use them again. And after the way the supervisor talked to me, I will go out of my way to discourage anyone from ever using them! I got a call again after a treatment just 3 weeks ago that they were coming again. I called twice and called the rep that does the treatment and told them not to come here until I got back from vacation and could talk to someone. Guess what, they showed up on Saturday anyway! I hate this company!

When I first called, I received a ridiculously expensive price and decided against using them. Then, a guy called me back and said that was the call center and he could do better. So, we agreed on a cost per treatment for 5 treatments and one free lime application. I received my first treatment, and noticed my grass turning brown on the tips the next day. I figured it was the weed killer and that the tips would be cut off any way with the next cutting. Within a few days, despite my routine watering, my entire lawn was brown and the weeds were the only green thing remaining (like the commercial on TV).
Then, I received a bill for double the agreed amount. When I called, a very sarcastic woman replied that they "forgot" to tell me you had to pay an additional payment in advance. I told her about the lawn problem, that I wanted the lawn looked at and fixed and that I was not paying any payments in advance. I never got a call back, so I called and cancelled the plan. I continue to get invoices from them. The company that cuts my lawn told me he had 25 to 30 TruGreen customers who had the same burn out problem and that he thought their chemicals were improperly mixed and too strong.

The first few times I was polite explaining I was no longer interested in their service; but they kept calling. I asked several times to be put on their Do Not Call list; but they kept calling. I asked to speak with a manager; one could not be found. I think they are finally done harassing me, or I could be wrong.

Last year, I was unhappy with the service as several different agents did not service the entire lawn, in addition to several other problems like going over the lawn and sinking in due to excessive rain fall. I had several conversations with Dallas regarding this and thought the problems were solved. One issue was that I was assured that someone would call a day or so before coming out to service. For the first several applications this year, this was done. However, the last time, no one did and had they done so, I would have told them not to apply. The reason being is that we are in a drought here in Northeast Ohio. The lawn has been burnt for weeks now and I live in a rural area where we have well water. Consequently, watering is not an option during this dry period without running the risk of depleting your well. So on 6/29/2012, they came out and spread chemicals on a burnt rock hard lawn which burnt it even more. Would someone from the Dallas office please contact me regarding this issue? In advance, I thank you for your time and consideration.

We decided to open an account with TruGreen this year. Before their service we had a beautiful stand of tall fescue in our front yard. We began to notice the lawn was beginning to die off in late April after one of their services. By mid May 2012, 75% of our lawn was dead and unrecoverable. We tried several times to contact someone at TruGreen to find out why. After several calls to their offices in Henry County, GA and being told there would be someone in contact within 48 hours, no one ever called. I again called their office and asked for a supervisor to look at my lawn and call me when they were at my house so that we could discuss the problem. My neighbors saw someone at my house two days later, but again no one called. During this time TruGreen continued to try and service the lawn - or should I call it a dust bowl now? We refused their service until we could talk to someone about this situation. Again, no one called and again a week or two later, they are coming to do a normal service as if nothing was wrong. This time I contacted their corporate national number and again my call was returned to the local office.
Again, I was told someone would be in contact with me about my dust bowl within 48 hours. Finally, after 72 hours the TruGreen rep decided to contact me. He informed me that we may have a fungus that is killing the grass, that they would treat the dust bowl with a fungicide the following Monday and to stop watering the lawn. He also stated we would get together to discuss a strategy for the lawn when I returned from vacation. After returning from vacation, my lawn had not been marked as serviced with fungicide.
I called the office again and was told that they showed no records of our lawn being serviced with fungicide. Again, they showed up for what I presume was a regular service while we were at work. The service representative left a note saying to water the lawn twice a week and that they had serviced with a granular fertilizer. Again, I called their offices in Henry County. Again, I was told someone would be in contact within 48 hours. Again, there’s no call. This was over a week and a half ago. This is very sad customer no service from a nationally known company! I am now looking at having to do my 7500 square feet lawn all over again. This is not a cheap prospect as I am sure you can understand. What a rip off!

My wife and I (both 29) bought our first home last year in August. After the MN winter passed, we needed to take care of our lawn. Lost and having never done more than mowing, I called TruGreen with a list of my concerns. The rep assured me the lawn would look much better by the end of the season. Two weeks later, I came home to a note on the door in absolutely terrible handwriting that was barely legible explaining why none of the work requested had been done. It appeared that someone had used a spreader to sprinkle some kind of fertilizer on the lawn, which I could've done myself in about 10 minutes. There's no new grass seed. Nothing was noted for any of the 3-5 other issues I had very clearly explained.
A couple weeks later, a bill showed up for $110. I waited weeks before deciding that TruGreen wasn't right for me, making sure I was thinking clearly and making a good decision. Tonight, I called to cancel my service and have the charges removed as services requested were not delivered. The woman on the phone, by the name of Chanya (or Chanta), immediately tried to sell me more discounted services rather than doing what I asked. She tried to tell me that I was wrong and needed to wait, and she mentioned that the call was being recorded so she could prove that I was contradicting my self. She actually laughed at me at the end of the call.
I've spent years in sales and customer service and have learned quickly to not make these things personal issues, as the customer's gripe is with the company, not with you as an individual. I told her that she had me in the palm of her hand, as I was planning to use their services in the future, after I did the work on my own lawn to get it structurally where it needed to be and TruGreen could do the rest. I also explained that this 100 dollars is very important to me, and certainly not to them, and that this issue is about doing what's right by someone who didn't get what was sold to them.
I'm sure I will end up losing this battle with TruGreen over the money that I could be better using to do so many different things with. But this post is here, as I'm keeping my promise to them that I will be doing the only thing I can as a consumer who has been burned: tell everyone I come across about how awful my experience was with them. I absolutely recommend never using this company for any services, and I'll mentioning the same any time it comes up in conversation. Thanks for reading.

I want to stress that this is my first year utilizing these con artists' service and I'm glad that I discovered the truth now as opposed to years from now, like some of the other folks before me. My relationship with them started with a complete stranger, wearing one of their polo shirts walking around my yard, uninvited. His explanation for being there was, "Your neighbors have been complaining about the weeds," which was completely untrue as I have a very close relationship with everyone in my neighborhood.
After months of endless and unsolicited sales calls, I finally decided to give them a try. The technician who came to my house was a very friendly young man and I walked outside to give them a cold soda because the South Florida heat was just too much. After striking up a conversation with them, he half jokingly told me that the chemical they were using for fertilizer was almost chemically identical to cat urine. It didn't take a biochemist to figure out that he was telling the truth as soon as the smell hit my nose. Then it dawned upon me. I was picking these ** $400 a year to spray cat pee on my grass. I abruptly canceled the service for the rest of the year and gave the company warning that anyone seen on my property uninvited again will have trespass charges against them. This is one of the worst companies out there, you have been warned.

I signed up for TruGreen in early/mid-March 2012. I explained to them that my house was on the bay and that New Jersey had passed new laws regarding using fertilizers near the open water. The woman on the phone assured me that this wouldn't be a problem. I paid them in full by credit card at that time. When I continued to receive bills in the mail, I repeatedly called them over a two week period. After numerous phone calls (approximately 7), being put on hold for extended period of time, being told that there were no supervisors in the building and that they would get back to me. I finally spoke with a supervisor who advised me that my credit card payment had not yet been processed.
The technician finally came to my house to perform a treatment. Upon another technician returning to my house a couple of weeks later, I was advised that he could not put down the application as my house was too close to the open water (i.e. the bay). I tried to explain that I had told the original salesman all this and that she had viewed my house using Google Earth; and, that an application was already put down. He continued to insist that he still couldn't do anything for me.
I am now left to try to get my money back as the technician couldn't help me. I have been on hold with the corporate office (901-597-6994) for approximately a half hour (1/2) as I write this review. In a word, what a pain in the butt this company is to do business with.

I have used TruGreen Lawn Care for several years but monies were beginning to get tight so I decided to do away with that service. They continually sent me forms to sign allowing them to apply pesticides to the lawn. I disregarded them thinking by signing them that it would signal them that I was ready for another season.
I was in Michigan for a couple of weeks and upon returning to Saratoga Springs, I noticed that they had been to my home and made some type of application (their unique yellow flags) on the front lawn. I called them the following Monday and mentioned that they had applied something and I didn't authorize it. She told me that it was fertilizer and the company assumes from year to year that I will continue the service. I have to opt out either verbally or by written notification. I wasn't fully on board with this explanation so I sort of disregarded it. Today, I received a bill for the application, not a large bill but still something I really didn't need.
I called the company and spoke to an Ashley and she explained to me that all the papers they send to me specifies this year to year assumption that I want their services to continue. I dug out one of their communications to me and it sort of vaguely states this. I will probably pay the bill but I'm very dissatisfied with TruGreen. I should have read the communications more thoroughly, but it doesn't really pop off the page unless you're looking for just such a clause. None of the paperwork that I know of that was signed by me had that clause on it. They only had me sign off for the pesticides. Maybe that's where they got me. I think it's a ripoff myself. Let the buyer beware comes to mind in this instance.

During my research, I found numerous reports of TruGreen users with dogs affected by cancer. This morning, my second dog, a four-year-old youngster, was diagnosed with advanced cancer and had to be put down. Two dogs diagnosed with cancer in one month? I have been a Trugreen customer for more than 6 years. I have been doing all that they had recommended for the lawn care and treatments. After all these years, I have realized that my lawn is getting worse. I contacted Trugreen on several occasions and they have not been able to resolve the issue. They do not call back nor do they show up when they are supposed to come in and in fact lied that they were there when I was at home waiting to meet them. Every time I have called them at their local or central office, they would say, "Oh, we are documenting everything that you are saying and I am sorry this happened.”
I am tired of their arrogant employees who think and treat you just like numbers. They do not deserve to be in business and their customer service needs a whole lot of improvement and major restructuring. If you as a company can not keep your longterm customers happy, you are not going to last long. I have always been told that a local company does a better job and hence I ended up doing so. I am very frustrated with their no-care attitude. I am never going back to Trugreen again and I have major reservations for referring any one to them. I started a contract with TruGreen Lawn Care in January 2012. They came out and serviced the lawn and I paid them $162 for the service that included a $50 upstart service charge. All other applications would be $112. I was called on 2 April 2012 to have my yard accessible for Friday 6 April for an application. I was called on 6 April and told the driver would not be able to make it out. I was never called again so I applied fertilizer and started doing it myself. No one ever called me for another application and I was pulling weeds like crazy. When they called, I cancelled and told them I had another service doing it. They came out anyway and treated my front lawn because the back was locked. I called and told them about it and they said they had no record of me cancelling and I still had to pay the bill.
I received more attention after I cancelled than when I was a customer. I was called trying to get me back but to no avail. I called about the billing and was given the runaround and finally a lady from Dallas told me to call the company in Oklahoma City, OK and talk with them because they were handling my account. When I called, the lady was very rude and told me I had to pay the bill. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she said there was no one else there but her. After the technician didn't arrive at our initial scheduled appointment, I waited an additional weekend and 2 business days for a call from the company to reschedule the appointment. No call! I called the company to question what had happened and they said they had problems, so TruGreen and I rescheduled for the following Thursday. Okay, these things happen.
Thursday morning, I got up early awaiting their arrival. No TruGreen truck, so I called to confirm the scheduled appointment again. First, the TruGreen representative could not get in contact with the technician for that area and then stated he's off today. After the negative reviews on TruGreen, TruGreen's no show for my initial service day without a followup call to me and then to reschedule on the day of service, and discover the technician is off, I'm feeling it's best not to do any business with this company. My story, I signed a contract but didn't pay in advance (never do that even with incentives) because then they can do whatever. Early blooming and grass getting quite long, so I attempted to call to get the service started. Several times on hold for over 1/2 hour with the same silly typical message (heavy call volume, answering calls as they are received, etc.). Then they automatically transferred the call to another TruGreen location, Dallas, Boston, New Hampshire. I wanted my local service coming from Yaphank, NY.
All these other locations could do is take the info and say "we will have them call you". Guess what? No one ever calls and as a matter of fact, Dallas was rude and obnoxious (Tony). I had it with them and left messages around the country that I am canceling. Finally, I got the phone call and told them they are absolutely the worst. The next day, their van arrived and if I wasn't home, they would have applied their first season application. They said they have a bug and they all will come back. As for the White Birch, still no green and the branches just break off. Nothing is coming back. My husband and I keep calling and we get nowhere. No one returns our calls.

TruGreen's product did not support what they said it would. I was approached by TruGreen approximately midsummer a year ago. And as the representatives outlined to me that my lawn had a few crab grasses, and even though it was green, they told me that they could and would treat my lawn for crab grass, feed the good grass, make the roots much stronger using safe chemicals, and my lawn would brighten up with a deep green lawn.
To cut to the chase, over several months of treatment, I contacted TruGreen reporting several times why I thought the sprays they were using was killing my lawn. However, I was told that the product they are using would improve the lawn. The treatments continued to the point that I finally called them to cancel the service. At this time, a manager from TruGreen visited and agreed that large sections of my yard appeared to be killed and they would reseed my lawn in the spring. But they would like to continue placing a pellet type application which would provide better grass growth.
Against my better judgement, I agreed, but when I saw the service person not only applying the pellets but also using the spray, I called TruGreen located in Kentucky and cancelled my service. I received a call this spring from TruGreen outlining new products and it was obvious the person on the phone wasn't aware of the past history of their killing my grass.
A positive note--TruGreen did follow through with their monthly service as scheduled and they left the poster acknowledgments as they said they would and did use some type of chemical on my lawn. However, it killed large sections of good grass, I still have crab grass, and insects that were to be killed too. They didn't contact me to reseed. Even though I cancelled their service, they should have followed up, in my opinion. My grass does not look deep green as they promised and now, I'm trying to reseed; however, nothing is growing in the brown dead areas. I would not suggest using TruGreen.

TruGreen Annual Contract: I have received numerous messages on my answering machine asking that I return my signed annual contract before service can begin. I return each call, wait an unreasonable time on hold each time, and finally reach a representative who guarantees me the contact, which has never been received and will be mailed out. This routine has taken place at least half a dozen times. My last call was taken by Jeff, a manager of sorts at the Orchard Park, New York, office last week. He guaranteed me that he personally would see to it that the contract was sent out the following morning. A week has passed and I still have no contract.
If you want the business, it would seem that someone in the administrative staff would be responsible enough to send out the information I am requesting. There are numerous lawn care services available, so if the business isn't needed, just let me know and I'll find another company.

On 2/21/12, I sent them an e-mail telling them to stop servicing my lawn. Despite refusing these additional services, TruGreen serviced my lawn in February and March and are now sending me a bill for $172. I spoke with Lazaro today for 17 minutes who then transferred me to John without comment. John had no idea why but promised to find out and call me back. I am waiting, fuming!

I had scheduled TruGreen to come to our yard for service. On the phone, they said it would be 24 hours and someone would contact us. This was not the case. We called back in a week and they again said in 24 hours someone would contact us. Nope.
They finally scheduled to come out on a Tuesday and we put our dogs in the garage. They did not show. The next day, they said they sprayed the front but could not spray the back because of the dogs. We called again to schedule the backyard. This time, I came home off work to see if they were finished and let the dogs out for a bit. The tech put a bill on our front door and left. I walked over to my neighbor and asked if the TruGreen guy did anything. He said he was there for about a minute and left.
I drove around the neighborhood and found the TruGreen tech. I asked him if he sprayed my lawn and he told me he already did it. I asked him when. He said "before". The bill was from a previous application. Then he told me my wife was there. So I asked him if he was lying or he was calling my wife a liar. After convincing him he is full of **, I called his management and demanded a refund.
There is no way in hell I will ever use TruGreen. I made sure to walk over to the house he was selling to and tell him of the shady dealings. I just wish I had looked at all the reviews before getting involved with this shady company.

TruGreen does a remarkably poor job. I moved into a 6-year old house that had been vacant for a year. Based upon a personal recommendation, I chose TruGreen to provide the lawn service. After 8 applications (3 callbacks), they did not kill any weeds. I had a lot of dandelions all over the yard and I inspected their health after every application, and could never find a single distressed **. Furthermore, the fertilizer was only applied over a limited portion of the yard. It became quit obvious in the fall, because the greening only occurred in a narrow band that followed a distant loop of spreader tracks. When I called back, it was a bad attitude from the representative.
While watching the guy doing the application on one callback, he made a single pass through the backyard and none in the front. The people who do the applications must be incentivized to use little chemicals or do jobs very quickly. I never saw any ** killed and the fertilizer was limited to a narrow pathetic through the yard. After changing to a new service and one application, most all of the ** have been killed. I didn't expect such as thorough response after one application. TruGreen never came close in 8 applications to what the new company has done in one. Be warned, that TruGreen must incentivize their employees for low cost because the service is virtually useless.

I have had TruGreen Chemlawn since 2010. Unfortunately, after a conversation with a neighbor, I found out the service technician was applying chemicals on another neighbor's yard instead of my yard (as contracted). After hearing this, I contacted the Florida TruGreen Chemlawn service agents to address this concern. Unfortunately, I have not received any return phone calls in the past month or two to address the refund I expected since I had not received lawn care services for October, November and December 2011. I have pictures taken in January 2012 of our lawn covered with weeds as proof any service had not been completed for several months.
In addition, a technician who finally provided extensive weed control in January/February 2012 wrote an apology on our service work order because the weed growth was so massive. Therefore, I would never recommend TruGreen service for any of our neighbors given the apparent lack of professionalism in providing a service that was contracted, much less the simple ability to return a telephone call to address the promised refund by the Regional Manager.

Poor record-keeping: Last year, I bought a full year's service and paid for X amount of applications up front. Everything was set up over the phone, and there was no paperwork. The salesman failed to mention that the service renewed yearly, and when I received a bill 2 months ago, I couldn't figure out why (1) they were still treating and (2) I was getting a bill.
After talking to customer service, she told me she would try to find a record of our conversation. After 2 weeks(!), she called back and said that I did agree to it. However, she could not send me a transcript of the conversation or anything else proving that their salesman in fact told me about this. She sent me the notes of their investigation, which was essentially the date my complaint was opened, the date they reviewed my records, and someone's comments saying that I was informed. If I wasn't concerned about this ridiculous incident reporting on my credit, I would not pay this bill. On top of this, the product didn't work. My yard has more weeds now than it did before.

So I called, and of course, no one was there. But they did return my call. So the girl said, "We don't have you as a customer anymore; looks like my technician cancelled your service." I said that made no sense. She said, "I can have him call you." I said, "No, I'll talk to the manager."
He came to the phone. He was ok, not really friendly, but ok. I asked if he knew what was going on. He said he didn't, but then he said if I wanted to keep my service, it would be the regular $128.00. I said, "What?" He said he could do it for $71.00. I said I understand prices go up but wow. Sure enough, this spring they started calling, asking why I cancelled and how can they get my business back. I told them I thought they charged too much and that they didn't do what they said, which was get rid of the weeds! Bottom line, I agreed to an initial treatment of weed killer, pre-emergent and bush/tree feeding treatment for $30. The man tried to get me to agree to pay for multiple treatments upfront, I refused. He said someone would call me to confirm everything. When some lady from TruGreen called, of course, she also tried to get for me to pay for multiple treatments upfront! Ugh! I told her the same thing. No, I will not pay upfront. I will pay for one treatment at a time and I told her the terms I did agree to.
So the lawn guy showed up, did the treatment and I got a bill for $106! WTH? I called and was told a manager will have to call me to sort it out. I have heard nothing and it's been 2 weeks. Even to give TruGreen the benefit of the doubt, if they did call and try to make this right, they did not leave a message. Needless to say, our grass in the backyard was dying! Our front yard looked great, but the backyard which, might I add cost us $1,700 for the best Augustine grass, was completely dying.
We don't know much about lawn care but we did know that something was eating the grass (bugs). They tried to blame us for not watering the grass... ummm, we have a timed irrigation system and not to mention it rains in Florida like every other week. When we started with them, we had told them to call before they come, and that our gate to the back appears to be locked but it’s not. When the guy came out, I physically showed him how to open the gate. They tried to say the gate was locked on several occasions; they were not servicing our backyard. It was quite obvious, when confronted with all this they copped an attitude with me, kept insisting it was our fault for not watering the lawn and that the gate was locked, not!
When I called and spoke to a supervisor, after a heated conversation I told the supervisor to cancel our service. They still came and serviced our lawn without our knowledge and tried to bill us. They relentlessly called our house and my cell number. I would never ever recommend them to anyone. Our neighbors also had numerous complaints and no longer use their services. Bad, bad, bad.

After his assessment, he told me exactly what my lawn needed to become full, rid itself of weed problems and any disease. Of course, he offered his program plus seeding. After hearing his rationale of what my lawn needed, I bought into their fast food lawn program. That was July/Aug 2011. A month later, they claimed we needed an additional month that the salesman missed to cover the year, so my wife sent them another check for $49.95. Despite their promise, they still keep contacting me through phone and mail. It is very annoying and I really don't know what to do other than to complain at BBB and consumer court.

I have spoken to several individuals about the condition of my lawn, particularly the weeds and crabgreen, along with the dull color. My lawn was watered three times a week with a complete underground irrigation system. I was told each time that someone would come out and inspect the lawn. That did happen, and I was told that they agree with me on the condition of the lawn.
Moreover, I was told that it would be retreated to address the the problem. However, the problem did not go away, and I concluded that the product that TruGreen is using is inferior. Therefore, I called to inform TruGreen that I was dissatisfied and wanted to cancel the service. I also informed them on more than one occasion that I would not pay my bill for such poor service.

When I called them to inform that why they sent someone when I cancelled all services a month earlier they apologized and informed me that I would not be charged. A month later I started receiving calls almost everyday harassing me to pay the balance due. After speaking with the rep and them looking through the records they saw where I did cancel and would remove the balance to close my account. 3 weeks later I still receive calls on a daily basis. After speaking with the manager I was told that I will still receive calls until they can "audit the phone calls" to confirm that I actually cancelled which it was unknown how long this will take. I would never recommend TruGreen to anyone!

I have been fertilizing my yard for years the past 6 years. My yard always looks beautiful and very green using Scotts Weed and Feed. Well, the past summer, I decided to take the burden off from myself and allow Tru Green to do the work on a regular basis. I use their sister company, Terminix and was satisfied for the most part. However, with Tru Green, not so much.
I have more weeds, brown patches, and problems with them than I ever did without them. Very disheartening. Of course, mid-ways of my service, I started to hear that they give weeds instead of get rid of them. I cancelled my service and I hope that I have heard the last from them. I do not advise anyone to use them. You would think a big name like Tru Green would do a service, not a disservice to lawn care.

I signed up with TruGreen in May 2012 due to the discounted rate offered which was lower than our previous lawn care company who provided high quality service. To my regret, from the very get-go, the problems began. First, without our awareness, they completely excluded our backyard from treatments which we had no knowledge of until several months into it I called to complain about the super heavy weed invasion. Now, the whole property was looking much worse than what it was prior to their treatment, but the backyard was the worst. I proceeded to contact the local manager and as I expressed my complaint, he said my backyard wasn't part of service and to include it I'd have to pay so much money.
I knew that was false and told him he needs to get it right to which he assured he'd call me back once he got the recording to which I agreed. It took several weeks of me trying to get him on the phone and even then he'd come up with excuses as to why he still didn't have the answer. As I persisted to call, he finally admitted they had made a mistake and will issue me a refund to the last two services which was really a joke because by that time, they charged me many more times than just two and the back was in need of saud to get it back into shape as it missed vital treatments and it later proved it would take a whole year to restore the backyard to original shape, according to the TruGreen technician I and my husband spoke with in December of 2012.
Almost eight months since they began treatment, our lawn looks horrible and they are trying to collect the undiscounted rate for every service since the two credits (due to untreated backyard) which I never signed up for. The agreed figure was $47 which is what I was billed prior to the two credits and recently I received a statement for $79.80 for every service they claim to have provided after that time (which Ill discuss below). I have tried to get a hold of the same manager for three weeks in a row, in October/November, only to hear a bunch of excuses such as he's on vacation, busy, away from the office, unavailable right now so please leave a message.
I finally got in touch with the second manager at the same location (early December, right before I got the statement with the false high charges) to resolve the weed issue. He was very rude and unhelpful to which I said I'm just going to file a complaint. His angry remark was, "Do you want me to help you with that?" Needless to say, I was shocked by their nasty service. I told him he needed to send someone out here to kill these weeds which he finally agreed to doing. What we didn't know is that he was just going to have someone show up but not do anything about it. The technician came out the next day saying that because there was so much weeds by that time and the grass missed important treatments (which Ill address below), to kill the weeds would leave blotches of nothing. Instead, he recommended we give them a year to treat it to see improvement.
By that time, I knew they were just empty promises. They just want to rip us off and not do much here if anything. My husband and I were there listening to technician tell us how he too wants to leave this company as they have unrealistic expectations and are concerned about quantity only not quality. He said most of his customers were unhappy and complaining but it's impossible to treat the lawn in the allotted time TruGreen provides. He said the management is rude and he's not going to hang on. We requested he comes back to at least kill the weed in the back which he promised to do the next day as he said he didn't have the necessary chemicals to do it.
Now, I'd like to address the treatment part. My husband and I were home when we witnessed the technician come out to treat our lawn in early December right before I got a second manager on the phone to complain. He had pulled in, unwrapped the hose, put the bill in the door, without knocking, wrapped the hose up and left leaving no trace of anything being sprayed. Needless to say, the technician never showed up. We're assuming hes quit and the company couldn't care less about doing anything.

Trugreen worked with my lawn for about 4 or disputably 5 months. I fought weed all summer long, to the point I had to go to Lowe’s and buy my own application. Whatever they allegedly sprayed did nothing. I had thistles growing in my lawn before it was all said and done. I dropped the service prior to year end and asked that they stop billing me for anything further. But now they are hounding me at work for this crummy service and are alleging that I have not paid for two of 5 treatments. Honestly I was not at home whenever the treatments were supposedly provided, so I have no ideal whether the rep treated my lawn or not. I sure had a lot of weeds for a professional treatment to have been done. But besides this my bank shows that the transactions were processed and nothing was returned. I tried to speak with Trugreen about this information; now it has turned into two missing payments out of these 5 alleged treatments.
I offered to fax the bank statements showing what I was looking at to them. The female representative they had argued with me over the phone. I hung up and called the company back; the next person I spoke with decided yelling their position over and over again would work better. I just must not have heard her saying I owe. It was derogatory, not to mention it made the company appear not the least professional nor interested trying to resolve a possible glitch in their system. And of course both these calls happened while I was at work. Totally embarrassing to say the least. When I finally asked to speak with someone higher up or in accounting, I was cut off and told that the female representative I was speaking with was the accountant and she refused to fax me their records on the disputed transaction(s).
She decided to tell me I just needed to go online to their website and just read my account balance posted there. I asked how this information would let me know where their glitch was coming from; the person I spoke with went back to reciting the amount owed according to their records over and over again. They did not care that they might be over collecting or erroneously collecting. I guess her job was just to get it off their books. Forget that perhaps it was an agent data entry error, or perhaps whoever processed the transaction on their part screwed up, or perhaps there is a computer glitch in their system that might be affecting a lot of people. The website will just spit out whatever they put into it or whatever their data drawn from feeds to it.
Their website is not my bank. It’s really sad that I will probably have to get an attorney to resolve this matter prior to they send it to collections. But, I will never do business with them, or feel good about their company ever again, over poor service and what amounts to 48 or 96 piddly dollars. Try to get them to stop showing an amount due when it is not. To get them to stop calling me at work. To get them to void the account and not turn their error over to collections. And to cease and desist harassing me over their erroneous billing. And to perhaps be reimbursed for the lawn treatments I had to purchase and apply to the entire lawn.

I was doing business with them for 6 years in Atlanta, and 3 years in Tennessee, and never bugged them for free applications. The branch seems overwhelmed and short staffed to do the service they promise. I have more to be concerned about than an $80 application, I have over $10,000 in trees and plants and $15,000 in a sod yard. I wanted a partner who cared about my yard, but got new techs every year, who all said something different.
Getting no response, I finally cancelled all services in December 2011, and am proceeding to just find someone who cares, as well as who can do the job. It's not like this is a unique product exclusive to Trugreen, it's a service issue and they dropped the ball. Servicemaster, their parent, works hard to be convincing that all their divisions listen to a customer, and try to keep satisfied customers. Trugreen, at least for this branch, fouled up and even with polite, documented to my account records, and polite calls, just got the brush off. Guess they didn't need my annual business of $1,800. Wish I'd known then, what I know now. I'm only posting this to advise people to don't take Trugreen's word for anything, and never pay a year in advance. Zero stars. First off, I never actually contracted with Trugreen for service. Trugreen assumed the business of Attwood Lawncare (a company I was very satisfied with). Trugreen's service started out o.k. but it has continued to decline every year. This year was, by far, the worst.
I am on an organic program (slow release granular) with four applications scheduled per year. Applications should begin in late April and continue every other month until fall. I had intended to cancel my service this year but when they failed to show up in April, May, and June, I figured my name had somehow been deleted from their system. No such luck, they decided to show up in July for my first application!! Then to make up for lost time, July was followed in quick succession by August, September, and October.
Having spotted weeds in my lawn, the technician took it upon himself to spray herbicides on his second visit. This was done without consulting me first. Huge areas of my lawn died and it looked terrible. The next time I actually arrived home while they were performing the application, once again spraying with herbicides and dragging the hoses through the corner of one of my perennial beds.
The herbicide got leaked onto some of my plants and they subsequently died. To top it all off, Trugreen informed me they were going to raise my rates! I didn't bother to call and complain because it doesn't do any good so what I decided to do was make them wait for their payment. I did make the first 2 payments on time but have delayed the last 2 until today (2 months late). No point in ruining my good credit rating by going into collections. Of course, they are calling me every day now. I used the letter I found on this website ("What to do") and will be sending it out tomorrow following the instructions. TruGreen is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I contracted for 5 services per year. Since 2009, they have been doing additional services and then bill me for it. After prolonged conversations, they then credited me for the 'mistaken' service. They emailed me my schedule in 2009 and 2010 and in both years they did extra service and tried to get me to pay for it.
They have done it again this year and will not issue a credit to me. I live in NJ so it is not easy to find other service providers for Cape Coral, Florida. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I think they do this on purpose and if the consumer does not pick up on it, they get an extra treatment paid for. Multiply that by a lot of customers and it is a lot of money. Now I get calls every day asking for payment of this past due balance. Service is not that great either. Don't hire them.

I received and paid for full service with TruGreen during the 2010 season. The service was expensive and too frequent, with mediocre results. I chose not to contact them about the 2011 season, choosing instead to use my personal landscaping firm. Subsequently, I received a bill in late June for service received in early June. I did not subscribe for any 2011 services and had no communication with TruGreen since fall of 2010 until that statement was received.
I was subsequently told my Mike **, Service manager in Lake Forest, Illinois that once you "subscribe for seasonal service", it continues for life until cancelled. That means that TruGreen is the only service provider in America who can come to your home, provide an unsolicited and unordered service, bill an unsuspecting "customer", and then expect to get paid.
