SunSetter Awnings was all good. I got exactly what I ordered without any problems. Their product was also relatively easy to put up. I just followed the instructions. It seems to be a good product.

I had a friend in Michigan who put three awnings over his deck and I liked it. I had put a spa on my flat deck patio and I wanted something like that to cover my wife and my daughter who go in it. So I contacted the outfit in Toledo and the representatives in the office were fantastic. They came out and looked at it. We talked about it and they told me a couple of ways that they could put it up. So they were great. They gave me an estimate and I went back about a week later and picked out a color. Then they came in and put it up for me. The awning is great and I like it. I'm extremely happy with it and I have recommended SunSetter to one person already. I told them to have somebody come out and look at where they want it, what they want and why they want it then let that person dictate. They seemed excited about the fact that there was something out there on the market that they could look at.

I like to read outside and a lot of times it's too sunny here in Florida to read. I needed a little shade out on our patio so I had SunSetter Awnings put up an awning. I called 'em up and they came out to the house. They did some measurements and told me what I would need. Moreover, they explained everything that I needed to know so I was in good shape. My awning is mounted to the side of my house. It's 16-feet wide and runs by remote control. I can put it up and down anytime I want to. I have a closed-in screened porch on my house and beyond that is where I put my awning. However, they only offer it with a cord up to 24 feet long, which did not reach the outlet. I had to put a junction box in and wired it over to my outlet. All in all, it was definitely well worth it to put the awning up.

SunSetter Awnings work great. They're fairly expensive but they're worth it. Dealing with their team went very well, too. I just placed my orders and they came in quickly. The first one I got was a hand crank for my tailgate trailer. Then I bought a motorized one to go with my hot tub. If it's raining, I use it. When I pushed the hand-type one on to a rock, I knocked something off of it, allowed rain to get down in it, and destroyed the motor. I could still roll it out by hand but it wasn't electric so I replaced it last fall. I got a 16-foot wide motorized awning that's self-supporting. It took two people to install it because it's big and fairly heavy. But the instructions were very complete and it wasn’t hard to install. All I did was leave the original brackets in the one I replaced and this new one slipped right in. It goes outside and shelters our food. I would recommend SunSetter Awnings highly.

My first awning, which was from a company that went out of business was old and it broke down on me. So, I got in touch with SunSetter Awnings, and I got the retractable awning that has the remote. SunSetter Awnings did a super job. They were very nice, informative, and I couldn’t have asked for better people. The awning arrived exactly when they said that it would. They took down the old awning, and put in the new one, and it didn’t take them very long. The awning is in a space over the patio where it faces south-west. So, I have a lot of sun coming in, and the awning is something I really need to have. I was pleased with the people that are doing SunSetter Awnings’ work here in Northern California. I would recommend them. In fact, I have already told someone to get in touch with them.

We got our house about a year and a half ago. I had put in a little patio and the sun was coming in over so I got an awning. I was reading all the time and I saved up a lot of brochure on SunSetter so I went into my files, got it out, and called them up. The fellow who has a company in New Port Richey that is close to us was good, very informative, knowledgeable and helpful. He answered all my questions. We had excellent interactions with him then he had somebody in his 20s come at the end to help him put it up. He also told me that I could give him a call if anything goes wrong, then he would be down and fix it up.
The quality of the awning is good. It's automatic and it takes it back in by itself if it gets windy. I figured 1500 might be a good price but I paid around $2000 for it, which was a little high but that’s the price they go today. So, just when the sun comes down, I put it out if I’m sitting out there. I also tell others to go ahead and get one if they ask me about SunSetter Awnings.

I watched SunSetter Awnings' commercial on TV and liked what I saw. I thought it was a really good idea and that I should invest in it. We had all that backyard but we would go inside because it'd be too hot. With it, we could sit outside and not have to worry about being warmed by the sun beating on our heads. I discussed it with my husband and he said he wanted to do that.
When I purchased it, they were having a special where they said to me that I was calling at a really good time. The awning would come with a screen and I could put lights on it if I wanted. I was under the assumption that the awning would have the screen mesh thing around it but that didn’t happen. It was just the awning. And then I got another flyer in the mail saying that if I ordered between a certain time, I could get the screen. But I was like, "That's what I ordered but that didn’t come." That was a little bit off. I spoke to a lady about that two months ago. She said that the screen wasn’t with my order. When I asked about the special they were having as I was still within the time, she said they didn't offer it anymore. I felt like I got the brush off about it.
My husband and my brother installed the awning and it was pretty easy. They were up on the ladder and they were able to mount it to the house. They didn’t have any problems with it. Once they got it up, we started using it immediately and it worked fine. About four weeks ago, we had a stretch of nice weather and we had a cookout. We opened up the awning and we ended up inviting a couple of family members over. It was just really nice. SunSetter has an awesome product and I wish it could go all the way around the house. That would mean I'd have to buy two or three though. It's another way to be outside where the sun's not on my head. I like to sit outside when it rains too. It's just nice where I could just go outside and enjoy our yard and still be at our house.

I needed an extra covering for my vehicle and in Hawaii, it was getting harder to get things shipped over. SunSetter Awnings made it very clear that the awnings would be shipped in good condition and that sending it back wouldn't be a problem. Their team was a little aggressive though and I dealt with around three different salespersons because I didn’t purchase right away. I got quotes, got some stuff mailed and emailed, and there was some difference in the pricing and deals. Once I received those, there was no follow-up and that was disappointing.
Other than that, the awning is a good investment. I also bought the extended warranty on it which sounded really good. I installed the awning myself at almost 11 feet above the ground. I got a scaffolding which was easier instead of ladders because the awning is pretty heavy. I needed a lot of muscle but it was not really complicated. But once I laid out everything, it was all pretty much easily done. Three installers would be the best way to do it and two would be hard but you can do it alone. I put the awnings on the side of my house where I could drive up and have protection from the sun and anything else. The vehicles take a beating here as well so I like the shade. The awning provides covering for my pickup truck, too. I'm happy overall.

I bought a SunSetter awning for my deck and I liked it, so I bought another one. They did a very outstanding job in getting the product to us on time. Moreover, it was very easy to install. My wife and I installed the old awning, a crank out, on the back of our house. I have not put my new one up yet as we are waiting for summertime here in Pennsylvania. We bought it early since we didn’t know if the prices may go up. We bought it knowing it was going to be fine anyway. However, I was really concerned if the remote will work when I’m inside the house versus outside the house. We bought the old awning many years ago, but it’s still like new. It’s not faded and it still works great. I would recommend SunSetter. Although there are cheaper ones out there in the market, as far as dependability and quality, SunSetter can't be matched.

We live here in Northwest Oregon and some of the nicest parts of the day here are the mornings. We have an east facing deck and kitchen, but when the sun is so bright, we can't enjoy it out there because it's low in the sky during that time of the day. It also beats in the kitchen and gets the kitchen really hot so an awning was going to shade the kitchen and allow us to be outside without having to stare into the sun in those pre-noon hours.
My wife has a cousin who has had a SunSetter for 30 years and it has been trouble-free which was what I was looking for. We placed the sales call, got some information and it was all good. The awning turned out to be just the way they said it would. It's a 14 feet wide awning and it's the type that extends out without any posts or any bracing that is going to be in the way, moving in any direction from the awning. There was only one style. The bracing that was required was all above our head. It was not down in the traffic zone where we'd have to avoid it if we wanted to exit one side or the other. The awning was motorized and the installation went fine as the directions were good.
Overall, the awning is going to shade the sun from beating in the kitchen through midday because of the way our house is oriented and we'll get more use out of our deck because of it. The awning was expensive for how I'm going to use it but I'm at the stage in life where I can afford it. I'm also anticipating it's going to be trouble-free so that'll be the big deal and I'm going to really like it.

It got too hot and I wanted a shade. When I looked around, SunSetter Awnings seemed to be fairly good. I called the local company to which they subcontracted and they handled my order. I was on the phone a couple of times with SunSetter's reps and everything was positive. In fact, I haven't had any problems with SunSetter but I had problems with the company that installed my awnings which happened to be one of their approved contractors. There was a little slack in the material and I had to stretch it out. I called and talked to the contractor directly. I asked the them to come out, take a look at the awning, and see if they could adjust it a little bit to make it a little tighter. The lady who did the scheduling was supposed to get back to me to schedule a specific date and time but in spite of two calls, she never did. So they haven't come back and repaired that problem.
The awning I got is a yellow and brown striped, and it's the remote one. It has the wind sensor and the extended warranty that SunSetter sells. When it was installed, the installers showed up on time, did their job, and everything looked pretty good. I’ve used the awning a few times when i was in the backyard, when I had guests, or when I wanted to sit out in the morning, read my paper, and be in the shade where it covers the sitting area. Overall, I would recommend the product but not the installing company. They need to do a better job on following up.

SunSetter Awnings was the most known company and the easiest to get information about. We have a deck and we had a party in December, and we thought it would be nice to have the area where we put our chairs and tables covered since sometimes it's sunny, sometimes rainy. Their team was efficient and they sent the products right away. We got a 15-foot remote awning with burgundy and white stripes. We put up the awning ourselves and it worked out well. We needed several bodies to put it up but it was easy. We bring it out when it's sunny and it shades the house very well. Sunsetter Awnings was a good choice and I would recommend it.

Plus more promotion and information were available. We showed everybody the awning and we like it. It does its job. It works great and looks good. We're happy and we would refer it.

Purchased Sunsetter from previous customer, came with EVERYTHING, initial paperwork, etc. Storm damaged one of the arms, contacted Sunsetter and told they couldn’t do anything, but refer us to authorized dealers who could come out and take a look. The item was out of warranty which was fine because we expected to pay for service call. Contacted the only two dealers they had listed and told by both, “if we didn’t install it, we can’t help”! Offered to pay and they still said no. Unless we purchased another, installed by them, we were out of luck. So, we now have a 20' awning and ALL the accessories sitting on the side of the house. We can sell for parts and that’s it. Where’s the customer service in that? We had somebody install because they could and company wanted an arm and two legs to install it. I’m very disappointed and would not purchase another based on that.

Love the awning. Would give it 5 stars. The problem was with your local installation co. - Authority Home Solutions in Ocala Fl. The owner, Chris ** came out and gave us a great sales pitch. Our SunSetter awning has made a significant difference in our outdoor living. The difference in our living room temperatures, due to the shade provided, is really amazing and more than what we expected. Installing, however, was not as easy as implied. These awnings are heavy. I would recommend having it installed rather than doing it yourself. It also is questionable whether it would withstand 55 mph winds as suggested. However, for the most part, it is well worth the investment.

We have a west facing living room and patio behind the awning, and we were looking for something to help out for the summer sun. We looked at different options and decided we didn’t want a bunch posts out there, so having an awning was the answer. Our neighbor has one that he installed last year and we liked it so we copied. It was easy to reach SunSetter and it’s the same brand of what my neighbor has. We ordered the awnings online and the sales lady was outstanding. She helped me design the thing in terms of what I needed. I needed two awnings and we talked about the measurements, how far they’d go out, and all the good stuff. I ordered them from her with a credit card and less than a week later, they were in my front yard.
A good old neighbor and a couple of other friends came over and we got it together and did it in a morning. It was easy and quick. The afternoon sun kills, so the awnings give us an increased shade and decreased heat, so we love it. I found that they're one inch too high to stop the sun just standing here. But that’s my fault. I highly recommend SunSetter Awnings and I volunteer to help.

I needed an awning for our back porch. I've always seen SunSetter's commercials and thought I’d give them a shot. I had shoulder surgery, so I had a bunch of friends come over and put the 18-foot deluxe model, remote controlled awning up for me. Setting it up took longer than what the instruction said. It took four guys about four hours to put it up. After my friends left and I went and rolled it out, the awning was tilting really bad to the righthand side. It may be out of balance and break something, so now it’s on the back of the house not being used.
I asked SunSetter if they would pay for somebody to come out and adjust the awning but they said no. We emailed back and forth and they said they would help me adjust it over the phone or through email. They tried to talk me through it, but me not having my friends over, I couldn’t get up there and do anything with it. I wouldn’t be right for about six months. I told them that I needed somebody to come take care of this and they asked if they could send me $50 to help the situation out. But if I called people here in town, they wanted $150 to come out, and I don't have that.
So I’m a little disappointed in SunSetter and I don’t know why they wouldn’t come and take care of business. I've tried calling them twice about it then, I gave up on them. It’s at a stagnant point right now. I spent $1,800 or so on the awning and I expected that when it rolled out, it would be perfect, but it was not. I shouldn’t have to adjust or mess with something when it's brand new. It’s like buying a car. You go back for a $10,000 oil change, it should run perfectly.

My wife and I were pleased to purchase and operate our Sunsetter Motorized Shade. It was just what we wanted. We expected a the product to work. Nothing more or less. Fair, right? The shade stopped working within 1 year. So, it required a new motor. OK, things happen, and Sunsetter sent a new motor at no charge. But now I need to pay someone to replace the motor. So, 2 install costs for 1 year of product and about 12 (twelve) up/down operations. We have now owned the shade for 2 1/2 years. The motor went bad again. Sunsetter stated they would not send another motor at no cost for the motor. Recognize the product failed at 14 months after replacement and they will not make good on their failed product. Also, the 2nd motor only had approximately 15 operations.
When I talked with Sunsetter they stated I should be able to replace the motor myself. Hard to do when I am handicapped with shoulder and foot disorders. I asked 'do you think my 90 year old mother should be able to replace the motor?' The response was 'yes'. How insulting is that to state I was inept, and my mother should be able to replace the motor. 'Sure, it only weighs 3 pounds'. Really, that is a credible response? And I asked if I should be expected to replace the motor every year and a half. They said yes, that is a possibility. The product is unreliable and the customer service is atrocious. Based on my experience I think it clear this is not a credible product or company to do business.

RE: Collapsed Awning. While I was temporarily away from the house on Sunday morning Oct 22, 2017, torrential rains and tornadoes started sometime after noon. By the time I rushed home, the awning had filled up with water, causing it to sag severely in the center from its normal height. Even though I put one side lower than the other, a maneuver required by the company; the rain was coming too fast and overwhelmed the awning. I tried to release the catchment of water with no luck. A properly designed awning should be able to encounter heavy rains without immediately collapsing.
I called many people including 2 engineers and could reach no one to get help. Finally, I was able to get two friends to come over. Before anything could be done, the awning collapsed on one person, pinning their arm between it and a metal chair. The arm was badly hurt so they rushed to the Emergency Department at Thomas Hospital to get it x-rayed. My right rib was also damaged. Both of these matters could subject the manufacturer and dealer to serious lawsuits.
While speaking to Sunsetter Awnings on Monday 10/23/17, Dillan, representative, requested that 2 incident reports be filed for the injuries sustained. He completed them and said he would send them to the Sunsetter Products Corporate Department. It is a design flaw that caused this accident to happen. There are 4 legs/arms that each have 2 levers that must be released to start telescoping each leg in PRIOR to being able to wind in the awning. The 2 legs/arms are 20 feet apart from the other 2 which makes it difficult to operate.
They sold me a defective and faulty designed product. Immediately upon installation, the first heavy rain the next day, caused it to break in half. The main 20' aluminum bar across the front that carries the awning in and out, broke in half. ( there are 12 pictures to prove this statement ). It is critical that these 2 companies (SunRay Home Solutions, Shalimar, Fl and SunSetter Awnings, Malden, MA) accept responsibility for the collapse of said awning and refund the entire amount paid in good faith by me for this product.
It is very fortunate that no one was killed when the weight of the awning and water collapsed to the ground. It is necessary that they stand behind their product. The consumer must be protected from these dangerous products. If they continue to sell this particular design, other consumers will be hurt as well. On Mon. 10/23/17, I made numerous attempts to reach SunRay Home Solutions. The owner David ** never responded to my calls. I spoke with the manufacturer, Sunsetter Awnings, several times over a two week period. They said they spoke with the dealer to no avail. I wrote David ** a certified letter Nov 2, 2017 stating if they would not refund my money by Nov. 28, 2017, he would force me to take them to court. To date 11/16/17, he has ignored my calls and letter. Today is 11/29/17 and my letter has again been ignored by Dave **, owner SunRay Home Solutions.

Everybody right from the Saleman (Bruce) to the installers (don't know their names) did an absolute grandtastic job. Bruce told me in a very professional manner why I didn't want what I thought I wanted, and explain to me why I wanted exactly what I got, he went through all the options and explained to me the ones that would best suit me, and told me why some of the others options would be a waste of my money. He answered all my questions very clearly and completely. By the time I was done talking to him we had a deal. Also I would like to point out how glad and pleased I was with the flexibility I was allowed as far as paying went (without that the deal could not have happened). I can say it's not the SunSetter cause during and after the install it catches and rubs against each other. The salesmen notice it and left it which was catching and putting pressure on the electric motor. They got paid the final bill and left so several days passed I called him up which he lives out of town so I had to wait till he was back up this way, I told him since day one something is wrong with this one and needs to be replaced cause it's going to damage the gears in the motor. He did something and it seemed better and he stated it will probably do it again, instead of replacing. This is true and factual and can be proved. I will not recommend this product to anyone based on my cost and experience.

I’m a contractor and I sell the SunSetter to my customers because they like them. It’s a well-built awning and I never had any problems with them. I like SunSetter because of the way it's designed, the way it operates with the remote control, and the way it folds up once it’s rolled back into the reel. The awning I bought recently was a fourteen foot, motorized, remote fabric awning, eleven and a half feet long. And I have very good luck with it. It was very easy going from the directions to install as well. I use it if it’s raining and I’ll sit out underneath and have a cookout. It also keeps the sun off the deck. I would buy another SunSetter and I would highly recommend people to buy one.

Back on June 23, 2017 I ordered a Sunsetter Awning to be an addition to a current awning. I was told it would be installed in about 4 weeks. It was finally installed mid August. Upon installation it was pointed out to me that there were holes in the fabric of the new awning. The installer said it was due to the way UPS. I also noticed that it didn't open as wide as my current awning, I was told that that was due to the fact that it wasn't as wide as the current awning.
I was not told that would be the case when I ordered the awning. Therefore, while I have procrastinated on this complaint I am very dissatisfied with the service. We are not going into winter season but would really like to have this issue resolved. Had I known that this one would not open up to the full list of the current one I would have considered a larger awning.

I had a porch that faced the sun and it has a deck. I've never used it because it is unbearably hot. Somebody told me about SunSetter and that he had installed a few of them. He said they were really nice and I finally decided that I was tired of not ever using my deck. I asked for information online and a sales rep called me within half an hour. He's probably about two hours away and I set up an appointment for him to come down.
He brought all these displays and samples. He also had pictures of awnings that they had installed and was very thorough. He was very fair and very honest, too. He said that nobody gets the fabric that I wanted, that it was not a good fabric and I felt like he was very knowledgeable. He was very helpful and suggested a fabric that would look good which I ended up getting. He didn't feel like he was trying to sell me something I didn't need and want. Then I looked at the screening that I can also get and he said he didn't recommend that. He said that I wouldn't use it that much and it's kind of a hassle. Also, he said that it wouldn't look right with the way my porch and deck is built. A friend of mine wanted one, too and she came down and listened to him. He walked down the street, measured hers and went through it, too.
For the installation, the installers bailed out a couple of hours but they were very good. They'd obviously done it quite a bit. They knew what they were doing and they didn't have any problems with it at all. Now, with my new awning, I'd sit out here all the time and it's really nice. I haven't even folded it in yet. It hasn't been windy enough to pull it back in and it's great. Everybody that sees the awning loves it and the fabric. It's remote-controlled and has sensors. This awning is the best investment I ever made. I thought it was expensive but it was worth it. It's certainly cheaper than building a roof over the deck and I wish I'd done it before because I've had this deck for several years and never even used it.

I was previously in Pennsylvania and I had a built a sunroom on the back end of my house that face south. The afternoon sun used to come screaming in the windows on that side. I saw the ad for SunSetter Awnings' manually retractable awning at a home show in Allentown, I purchased it and put it up and then when the hot sun would come screaming through the left side of the sunroom, that awning would block it out because it overhung. And it was always a plus that it was over the patio. When we bought our house in Florida it was logical that I would do the same thing that I did in Pennsylvania.
SunSetter Awnings wasn't available on the day we moved because we just moved in with everything. We had a problem connecting. The awning was delivered to the house or the business. And then we finally connected after about a week. They came out and they did the installation. But then I lost over a foot of awning that I would have liked to go out further because the one I wanted went out to 11 feet 8 inches, and it had to be a minimum 14 feet wide. The area that I had available is only 13 feet 6 inches wide, and that meant I had to go with the 10 foot 6 inches awning. But that's my only complaint. It retracts easily and it's one of the better features. It's fully electric and I also have the wind thing on it so if we're not at home and I have left it up and the wind blows hard it will close itself. There were two fabrics and what I currently have is softer but the better of the two.
When there was a problem with one side of motors making a contact or the remote because it would go out but it wouldn't come back, they worked on it to figure out what that was and when they found it they resolved it. I've never had another problem with the awning since then. If any of my friends were interested in an awning, I would show them what I have, tell them it's a good one and say how I got it.

We bought our first SunSetter, a 20-foot manual, 20 years ago. It was in excellent condition because we took care of it and we never left it out when it rained or got windy. But we're getting old and it was getting too heavy to maneuver when we put it out of the rain. So we decided to get a smaller 12-foot one then we decided we would get the lights and get it remote-controlled. You hit the button and it all comes out which is absolutely wonderful. However, I wasn’t happy with the people who came to put it up and the leftover wiring from the LED lights. It was rolled up, tied with the baggy thing and left sitting up there, and so much of it was showing. I’m flossy but it’s also going to snow and rain and that is a pain.
I had the installer come and look at it. I asked him if he would want his house to look like that with all those wires. He said he hasn’t had any complaints from other consumers but he hasn’t installed too many awnings with the LED lights either. He said that was the way it came and there was no way to hide it. I tried to hide it underneath our siding but it was not working. So I had to get an electrician to come and hide the wires.
He came and added a box to put the wiring in and up the top but he had a very difficult time trying to find a box to put it all inside. He went to Amazon, eBay and the electrical stores. Even when he did come up with something, I'm not 100% happy with it but at least the wiring is not exposed. It was a big deal too as it cost me more money than I bargained for in the end. It was complicated figuring out what to do with the excess wiring from the LED lights. SunSetter made the cord so long and maybe they have reasons for that too but they should come up with something extra to hide the wiring.
Now, there's the problem with the lights going on and off. So I called SunSetter and they were very good about it. They troubleshot it with the electrician and they figured it was the ballast on the lights that was not working so they're sending me a new one. They said it should arrive within four or five days then the electrician would come back and do it again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the lights work because that's really the point that I love about it. Otherwise, their products are made well and as far as the awning itself and the lights, I would recommend SunSetter to anyone. I've had a very good experience with them. It's only now that we have a small issue but even then, they've been very cooperative.

We LOVE our motorized awning. The selection of fabrics allowed us to match a canopy cover that we already had and now both the awning and canopy appear to be a matched set! After using our awning for a few months we are so happy to have added it to our home. It's just too bad we didn't do it a long time ago. Previously, the deck outside our patio door would get so hot that we had to keep the door closed to stop the heat from pouring in. Now, even on warm days we can still have the patio door open and enjoy the outdoors while the temperatures have been reduced inside because the sun doesn't heat up the deck. The remote control makes it easy to adjust the amount of shade we want, and the wind sensor guarantees that if a quick thunderstorm passes thru, the awning will retract and not be damaged. Your local installers did an excellent job and no additional service has been needed to date.
We would gladly recommend SunSetter and your local salesman in Perham, MN to everyone and would buy again if the need ever arose. It's a great product. For purely personal cosmetic reasons, our suggestion would be to have the option of a brown awning cover and cord available as the white doesn't match our red cedar siding and dark brown windows as well as a dark brown would. Otherwise we have no complaints or would make no changes in your product.

Classic bait and switch. I ordered it, I paid for it, I'm stuck with it, and I wont ever buy another one.
We are happy to hear you like your awning. Your purchased from a local independent awning dealer, not SunSetter Products, so we don't know what you paid for your awning, and can't really speak to your comments about the pricing. We do know that when you buy from a local independent awning dealer you are getting added service not available through SunSetter. Your local dealer likely came to your home to measure for your awning and make a recommendation to fit your deck/patio and your shade needs. They accepted delivery of your awning saving you the time and possible day off from work to wait and sign for the delivery and the probably installed your awning for you. Those added services make it difficult to compare what you paid the local dealer vs the factory direct pricing for the DIY consumer. The Motorized Awning model, Wireless Wind Sensor and the All Weather Warranty are all recommendations we would have made to you as well. No one ever regrets adding the motor, but some do regret not adding the motor at the time of purchase. It looks like you made all the right decisions to be able to enjoy your awning for many years to come. We, SunSetter are the manufacturer of your awning and we hold the warranty. The dealer was very helpful and gave us the option of a roof mount, which we wouldn't have known about from the website. We ordered the day he was here, and the parts were delivered about 5 days before the 30-40 day window he gave us. They added us to the schedule and our awning was installed 19 days later. We've been VERY happy with the product. The wind sensor works GREAT, even in Wyoming wind.
I think a lot of the complaints on this site have nothing to do with the product, and more to do with the local installations. The dealer in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming is WONDERFUL. It took 2 installers 12 hours to do the entire installation, with the first part taking what I thought was an awfully long time. But, I guess the prep work is important, and once it was done, it was completely done. The installers did have a hard time with the light clips, so those complaints here seem to be legit.

We concluded the battery needed replacing but SunSetter wanted me to pay over $135 for the battery, stating that the battery would have had to be defective to get a replacement for free. We received our 15' awning via UPS Freight and both end caps of the 150+ lb package were completely destroyed. The material and design were completely insufficient and the screws used to hold the particle board pieces completely tore into the awning when it apparently slid out of the tube in shipping. When I tried to contact customer service to communicate my frustration and dissatisfaction, they immediately offered me free accessories. I iterated that I was only interested in speaking with someone responsible for shipping so they could correct what is clearly sub-par packaging (at least the method used to close the ends). They said they had no ability to communicate with shipping (it's a different location, building... whatever).
So, Sunsetter Customer Service maintains that they have no ability to let a customer directly provide feedback to the shipping department! Seriously? The singular physical contact point between the company and the customer is the shipment and they don't have any way to funnel photos, documented issues with their packaging? The shipping tube likely costs over $100 and they use 50 cents worth of particle board and some sheetrock screws in the ends. Now I am supposed to "properly" package and return with completely destroyed packaging they used. So, I have to cut my own end caps using $1 worth of 2x12 solid wood, but they will not let me do them the favor of communicating a proper solution to their shipping department. I have pictures and they clearly show the shortcoming of the packaging design.
When the particle board breaks, and it will, the remaining inward-facing screws will tear through the plastic and awning material when it slides out of the tube. The tears on ours were 8' into the center of the awning, so it had been more than halfway out of the tube during shipping. It is maddening that "Customer Service" would provide no conduit to me to ensure this information would reach the correct hands and that something would be done. The representative would only say, "I'll see if they can use 2 tubes for your replacement"!!! Really?
In retrospect, I should have refused shipment simply based on the fact that both ends were destroyed and no longer in the tube (the freight driver simply handed them to me). All I can say is the company culture and competency is terrible. If a customer called and iterated this sort of issue, you would expect they would be interested in the details and nature of the failure. They were not. They only would offer me appeasement via lights, covers and cleaning kits that I didn't order and didn't want. I have requested my money back and now having difficulty getting a Return Authorization. It seems that those managing to receive the product in-tact are happy. Those having to deal with Customer Service, not so much. If you value transparency and a company that will stand behind its products AND operation, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Not only is it of high quality, the customer service from Sunsetter is every bit as good as the awning. Always go above and beyond our expectations. I highly recommend this wonderful company.

We have had our 14 ft XL motorized awning for over a month and love it. We had a small hole in the fabric that the installers noticed. Called in that same day to the warranty department and they sent out a replacement fabric immediately. Wonderful product and it makes a world of difference on the temperature of our composite decking. Can now walk on it with bare feet. And the wind sensor works great to pull in and prevent wind damage.

I bought the 20' motorized awning and 16' manual awning direct from SunSetter. I had it installed correctly at my expense by their dealer. The 20' awning arm supports metal arms both snapped, metal broke one at the end and the other at the joint the FIRST night it was up. It rained that night - no warnings, no wind gusts over 15mph just rain. When I contacted sunsetter they were not helpful. Won't pay for repair, parts will ship and be there in a week and, "Fix it yourself or pay someone to do it. Read our warranty. We don't pay for repair". I would not recommend this awning to my worst enemy.

The experience with SunSetter was fine, until I tried to install the LED lights under the awning. The clips were too big and when I called for help, all that was done, was a new bag of the same clips were sent to us. I called back and got no help from SunSetter. I was told no other complaints about the clips had been reported. I am a master electrician and know how to install LED strips. I then called a company in our area, who installs your awnings, in reference to the lights and was told by their installer they were a pain to install. He went on to say all the clips had to be bent in for the LED strip to clip on to. If it were my company, and I got this call, the first thing I would of done is picked up a clip and see for myself if it fit in the back of the strip. That way they would of seen the problem and would of been more help to me and future customer.

I got SunSetter motorized awning installed through one of the SunSetter authorized dealers in late June 2017. Getting the order done and getting installed went without any issues. The product has also been working fine so far. Experience of working with dealer was also very good for the installation of the product. Want to comment about what SunSetter calls as "authorized dealer". Turns out SunSetter advertised savings are not passed over to customer when ordered through SunSetter "authorized dealer". I got a mail during last weekend (August 5, 2017) from SunSetter indicating free accessories available with the purchase of the awning.
When the local dealer was contacted, I was told that they don't get the same advertised savings passed over from SunSetter to the dealer. Contacted SunSetter directly and was told they can't provide the advertised free accessories as I didn't purchase directly with SunSetter even though the purchase got done through one of their authorized dealers. So a word of caution as the SunSetter authorized dealer list is misleading when it comes to any advertised SunSetter savings.

We love our SunSetter Awnings! I manage a four building - 76 unit property and we had awnings put on both of the main apartment buildings over the existing patio. In the first week we had them on, more people used the patio than had in the last year we have been here! I definitely recommend both the remote control for ease of up and down. And the wind sensor! It has been a life saver for me with time and peace of mind. I put them out every morning and in every evening. However, we have had some very windy days in MN and I never have to worry about being away from the property as the sensors work wonderfully on those windy days!!!

Sunsetter recommended a dealer for ordering and installation. They gave me one option. The Design company was lackluster in their service and the quality of the work (the awning broke the day it was installed and the design company said just live with it, it is under warranty). Then they wanted to charge us for ordering the defective part. Sunsetter then told me I could have installed the awning myself. They offered me a free cleaning kit (which I have not received), a coupon (which the design company would not take). They basically did not show any regard for the poor service they recommended. For the money I spent I was very disappointed and felt Sunsetter should have stood by their recommendation.

I was informed that the awning motor has been discontinued and therefore the power switch for it was also discontinued. I would be required to purchase a new motor with attendant wireless switching for more than $400. The broken switch is a standalone 3 position rocker switch that is housed inside the aluminum, waterproof box that is attached between house current and the motor. The switch itself is a very inexpensive item, or should be. The cost of the electric was making me hesitate but now that we know how much work it is to close we would have gotten but we do love the awning.
Thank you for sharing your comments with future buyers. The SunSetter Motorized Retractable Awning is our # 1 selling awning, and is # 1 in customer satisfaction. That is always our recommendation to anyone that has the space available to install one. As you mentioned your Manually operated SunSetter Vista Awning can be upgraded to accommodate a motor which will make closing the awning with the click of a button the a breeze. The additional expense in the long run will add to your enjoyment of the awning. Tidbit FYI... the lateral arms under the awning fabric have internal springs that assist in opening the awning. When cranking the awning closed you are working against those springs, so you feel the resistance when closing. Again thank you for your feedback.

While extended and no wind blowing the 20 X 11 awning had total failure at the far end of the extending arm. The metal broke and the entire awning crashed down into the side of the house. Luckily no one was under it. The awning took several chunks of stucco off the house and knocked the BBQ grill into the natural gas supply line which thankfully did not break off. I immediately called Tess ** (the rep who sold it to us). I left a message and never did get a return call even after several more attempts by myself.
I called the 800 number for SunSetter and ended up a sales manager named Brian. He was fantastic. He took care of all my concerns. The guys who installed the awning were also fantastic. They were the first phone call I made and were here within 30 minutes and cleaned it up and made it safe from further collapse. Again it took more than one phone call to get Tess to follow up. She eventually made the arrangements to have the installers remove what was left of the awning and again they did a great job. The repair of the damage done to the stucco has yet to be done but that guy has been out to see the damage and is scheduled to return for the fix.
Feedback is important to us and we appreciate the time you took to tell us about your experience. The good news is that we reached out to your place of purchase on your behalf and are we are happy to know they worked with you to resolve the issue to your satisfaction.
Understanding that the awnings don't just spontaneously fail for no reason is important information for anyone considering a retractable awning. Our best advice is read your Owner’s Manual and take proper precautions for unexpected weather changes.

We had an awning installed in 2012. For the last 4 summers so far so good no complaints. However last week we noticed that the awning fabric end that is just above the valance is coming out of the groove. I called SunSetter and reported my issue. I also called my installer and he says he'll come to check things out. Then I took off the end caps (two Phillips screws on each end). I was told there is a cord that is fished through the hem on the fabric end and that holds the fabric end in the groove. Lo and behold there was no cord inside the hem. At the SunSetter factory they just slid this hem into the groove without the cord. This greatly reduces the staying power of the fabric end in the groove with any wind, rain or weight. Now it’s out about 6 inches on one end and an inch on the other. No fabric is ripped or any other problem it’s just not in the groove and looks ugly.
I called SunSetter just now they told me it was unusual to happen. The evidence appears that at the SunSetter factory the rolled awning was assembled and shipped with no cord and I was the lucky one to get it. Now lets see how honorable they are about THEIR MISTAKE? I paid for and expected ALL THE COMPONENTS FOR MY AWNING! The entire setup is bogus and I was wronged by them but now that I caught their mistake lets see what happens?

We are do it yourself folks and we purchased a 16 ft XL motorized awning. We should have purchased it 15 years ago. It is absolutely the most marvelous thing we did for the outside of our living area. Because we were do it yourself as there's some things we learned in the process. First of all the instructions that are given for installing the mounting clamps need to be more detailed. We found that they need to be positioned very critically in order to get the awning to go up and fit into the brackets. To solve this problem I purchased a 12 foot length of one and a half by one and a half Square pipe to use as a template and it worked out well.
Another important point is to understand that the 16 foot motorized awning weighed 130 pounds and it took two young strong men to put it in place. Once in place it was easy to secure and it looked great. One of the important features that I like to point out is the quality of the product, the engineering is superb and the quality of the product is first class. Thank you SunSetter. We also purchased the automatic wind sensor that closes the awning in case the wind were to increase. It works well and it's certainly an important safety feature.
One thing to note the awning which sticks out from the house about 10 feet has a drop of 29 inches from the point of which it's mounted to the outer edge and that lowers the awning to a point where I hit my head on the support brackets. I raised the outer edge of the awning so that there was only a 12 inch drop and that provided plenty of space for me to walk underneath it and for us to see out into the yard and our property. I was able to make this adjustment using the provided instructions without any major difficulty. Hooray for SunSetter. They are a quality company with good engineering and provide what they say they're going to provide.

Read instructions carefully especially for wall mount and use a 1/4 drill bit and be careful not to use the Brick mount which is 3/8 drill bit. Otherwise, very satisfied so far for 2 weeks but see what it covers at the end of the day around 4PM. May need the side Screen to block the sun if using between 3 to 6 PM. I needed to add the screen on left side to block the sun to use when the sun goes down. Hope this helps...

I wasted $3000.00 for a awning I can't used when there is wind. I called SunSetter but they can't helps. Should have got it from a company that is 100xs better. I would have been sitting in the shade a lot!!! Would not even refer this company to my worst enemy.
We are disappointed to hear of your dissatisfaction with you awning. Our awnings do very well is the wind. We had wind testing performed by an independent laboratory and as tested our awnings sustained winds to 55-75 mph without damage.
We will reach out to you privately to offer our assistance and suggestions for using your awning in a windy area.

Worst company ever-continues to send us unsolicited mail via USPS, and when we called several years ago to have an awning installed, the company never showed up to do measurements on multiple occasions. Stop sending us mail and pretending you are a real company. Thank you!

My new motorized awning has been installed for a few weeks now. I am delighted with it so far. I love having the remote handy and the wind sensor has worked beautifully when the wind picks up as it often does here in the afternoon. I really feel that the shade it provides helps keep my house cool inside longer thus delaying the time my cooler kicks in. I love it.

My awning blew off the house within 2 weeks! The wind sensor tried to retract it but it was not fast enough. They did replace the thing but I do not trust it! Every time I've tried to use it a little wind comes up and it starts to flop around and retracts. It is useless! They say that it is engineered to withstand 65 mph winds, it will not stand up to 25 or 30 mph wind. I asked them to just remove it and they told me to call the local dealer who installed it. He wanted $200 to remove it. Customer support is useless!
We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with your awning. With proper installation the awning is very durable, and as tested by an Independent Laboratory it can withstand winds up to 75 miles per hour. Experiencing high winds on a daily basis is not the norm, so for most homeowners the awning operates as intended and provides protection from the sun. Our records indicate that the first time your awning was damaged it was left unattended in the rain. We caution against that in your Owner’s Manual. The sensitivity setting on your wireless wind sensor can be set from 0-9 with 9 being the least sensitive. In the factory we set that setting on a 2, so it is very sensitive to wind and will close the awning in lighter winds. We recommend that you adjust that setting one step at a time until you find the setting that is most suitable to your area. Based on the information we have your awning has never failed, and our Customer Service was there for you when your awning was damaged.

This awning was everything I wanted and more! I've told many people how great it is. It's money well spent. I would recommend your awnings to everyone. It was fairly easy to install. The gentleman I talked to on the phone was very nice and helpful.

The upper attachment rail was bent 10-15 degrees about 6 inches from the end and about 50% of the rail was squeezed shut. I had to use 2 screwdrivers to pry it open so I could get the awning in the track.
We are sorry to hear the awning rail for your new Model 900 XT awning arrived damaged. We do appreciate your feedback and we have shared your comments about our packaging with our team in manufacturing. We appreciate your business and wish you many years of enjoyment with your second SunSetter Awning. If we can be of assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

We debated our options for mitigating the blazing hot sun on our outdoor, fully exposed deck for ten years before deciding on a Sunsetter awning. We should have installed one as soon as we purchased our home! What a difference it makes! Now we can enjoy being outside, and the awning has the side benefit of shading and cooling the inside of our home, as well! Installation was quick and all we do is push a button on a remote to roll it in or out to whatever size we desire! So easy, and so COOL! Highly recommend this investment!

Enjoying the new awnings and just wish I had ordered sooner. They keep the east side so much cooler. It is like having another room. We can now sit out on the patio. Our neighbors stop by saying it looks so inviting they want to sit and enjoy. I love them and they are so easy to operate. Just push a button. How convenient!!!

We were extremely happy with the service received from SunSetter Awnings from the initial contact to the final installation. The two man team that came to fit the awning were very tidy and accurate workers. They left the site without a trace. We absolutely love it!!!

Wow, we love it and enjoy. When opening it saves that the sunshine cannot get into our kitchen when we open the blinds, also we can sit under it and enjoy watching the birds or reading or chatting. It was lucky that we now have the SunSetter and will see what becomes when winter arrives.
