I had them out to troubleshoot the foot issue and I was told it's as good as it gets. Overall very disappointed in this very expensive investment. Maybe a bigger motor for the jets would be an improvement. Last is the drain, it's by the seat instead of by the faucet end so when you shower you tend to step on the drain closing it and filling the tub which causes soap scum issues.

They gave us a sales talk and they were very conscientious about my whole family being able to come. The installation went just like they said it would. We're happy with most of our tub's features. I'm 65 years old and I have foot problems. The jets on my feet are very helpful. My father is 90 and he has lower back issues, and man, he walks out of there feeling like a new man. We're completely satisfied with it. I recommend them.

The Safe Step walk-in tub is all right. It just doesn't mix the water well. It goes hot and cold. Also, sometimes when you're draining it, it shuts off. You gotta reopen the drain. If a friend needed a walk-in tub, I'd tell them to get Safe Step.

After they did the job, they did the walk through on what was done, and they pretty much took care of what needed to be fixed.

Safe Step came out and did everything they said they were gonna do. They were on the money and on time. I have two bathrooms and both bathrooms had the tubs. I eliminated it to one downstairs, put the walk-in in and what a difference. I like that I only have a short step. I'd recommend the walk-in tub to any friends that I have that are up in age.

I would recommend Safe Step. Their rep was very congenial and informative. If we had something, he would flip through the brochure and show us exactly what we were talking about. I made a list of questions for his second visit. He came back a second time and answered all my questions. There were three young fellas who did the installation and got everything going. They were through in one day. We had a garden tub that had to be taken out which was a little larger than what they normally do. They did a great job, covered the floor, got everything out timely, and came back and reconstructed around the tub area. Everything was neat. They were very efficient with their activities.
We like the Safe Step walk-in tub. My wife likes the MicroSoothe and the jets. She also likes the fact that she can fill it up about halfway and not have to fill it up all the way and take a bath. She does it all the way when she wants to sit back and relax with the water jets. We also got the little handheld shower. She has used it to wash her hair. She likes it too.

We decided to get a walk-in tub and we did some internet searches and gave Safe Step a call and they came in and talked to us about it. The guy that came to sell us had integrity and I liked what I saw. I have a pretty good read on people and I think that I got the impression right off the jump that he was an honest guy. The two gentlemen who showed up to install gave me a rough timeframe of how long it would take, and they were finished on time. They did a decent job. They didn't make a mess in the house.

Safe Step's rep was good. He explained everything. He answered our questions. He was polite and fun at the same time. I thought, “They're never gonna get this done. I'm sure of it. Breaking out a tub and putting in a new one? Nah.” But they did. They did everything quickly and easily. I had to call the installer back. I couldn’t get the drain to shut level. He came back two days later. And he said, “It was just one of the things was not quite right in there. It's perfect now. You won't have a problem. If you do, you call me. I'll come right back down.” And we haven't had a problem since.
I love the lights. And it's so soothing. I love the way I feel when I get out and say, “Okay. Nap time. I'm ready for bed.” And it's great for my daughter because she's on oxygen. She has fourth stage COPD, and she can't get in the shower anymore. That was our main reason for doing this. And it worked well. Big difference for her. She would say, “Wow. I’m so tired now, Mom. I could sleep.” Also, it’s sturdy and wipes off clean. It looks good all the time when we clean it off every time someone took their bath in it. It's a great product. So, I would recommend it to anybody who asked. I told my neighbors about it.

The sales rep was nice and explained everything, and it seems everything he said worked out. Safe Step seems to be helping my back and feet some. I like the foot massage and leg massage and on the back also where you adjust the spray nozzles. I’d recommend Safe Step. Both my friends are getting old now and they need the walk-in tub. It’ll help them later.

Safe Step's rep was professional. She came out. She gave us the estimate. But we had one problem after they put the tub in. One of the jets popped out. We had to contact Safe Step. They came out in a couple of days and fixed it. The tub is a bit complicated, but comfortable. I can take a shower or fill it up.

My mom is 86 and she could use a walk-in tub. I wanted it too for my aches and pains. The Safe Step rep was really nice and the installers were very good. They were there less than a day and got the walk-in tub in and done. We've had the tub for two months now and it's very nice. The quality is good and does what it's supposed to do. It does take a little long to fill up and I wish it filled up quicker. But it drains really fast. Another thing is when you're getting in, you have to be skinny. When the door opens, you have to squeeze around to get in there. But it's good.
I have to be there to get my mother set up and then watch her and help her get out of it because she doesn't know how to use the buttons. Right now, the tub is working good and hopefully, it stays that way. They said they'd come back and show us the Bluetooth if I couldn't figure it out. But my nephew said he'd come and show me. I should be able to figure it out sometime.

I like that you can get in, you can fill it part way up. I have trouble with my knee. If I just wanna put enough water in it to get my knees in there, I can do that. Go for Safe Step. So far, it's been wonderful. The salesman was very knowledgeable, truthful, and honest. The product seems to be everything he said it was. We're very happy.

Safe Step’s reps did a good job of selling and I was convinced that it was a good tub. After they went in my bathroom and came back out and brought the price out with them, I was a little startled. It was expensive but I decided that probably was comparable with other tubs. They brought the tub, put in the driveway and asked me to sit in it. And I got in it. But I couldn't move my arms out to the side or my elbows out. So, they said I needed the bigger tub. They took the little one back and came back with the bigger one in about three weeks. They took my garden tub out that had all the jets and put this tub in.
The day they came back with my tub, they called me to tell me that they had brought the same one that they brought the first time and they were gonna come and do the plumbing work and the electrical work that day. And they would go back to Kennesaw and bring the bigger tub the next day and finish installing it. They came but they didn't have enough material. And they were supposed to center it on the window, which is in the bathroom and they didn't do that. I haven't even taken a bath yet in that tub and that's been since March 24th when they finished installing it. So, I'm very disappointed. I had to have somebody come back. They sent another person to re-caulk all the caulking and get the footprints out from where they wore the shoes in the bathtub. I asked them to come back and center the tub where it should be and put the third shelf up. I talked to my project manager twice before they came to install it and she just stayed busy all the time.
It’s a good thing I have a shower in that bathroom also but I need a walk-in tub because I have a neuropathy in my left leg. I've had four bypasses and two open back surgeries and rotator cuff surgery. I was looking forward at 74 to be able to get in the tub and relax and Safe Step didn't come through for me. I paid for the tub the day that they finished installing. And they didn't want me to take pictures until they were finished. It just goes on and on.
I haven't heard any more from Safe Step. They told me to call the guy who sold it to me. I called him but he was tired of hearing from me, and he never answered me. And I called back like they told me to, to Tennessee. The installation manager and the service manager told me to call them the next day if that person didn't call me, and he didn't call me. I called them and left messages like they told me to do. And they never called me. I’ve yet to call the Better Business Bureau. I don't want anybody else to have to go through with that.

The sales rep from Safe Step was excellent. He was very thorough in everything and he was a good salesman. He didn't have to talk me into anything. I heard everything about the tub. The installers were delightful. Rudy and James were a lot of fun. They were busy from the moment they got here until like 5:00 in the evening. So, they were here all day. Personalities were great. So, it was a cool interaction. As far as the walk-in tub, I like the jets. I put a call in to Safe Step because the remote is not working and there are other things that I need attention and they said they would have somebody call me to make an appointment.

Their sales rep seemed very honest and open and my experience with their installer was great. The installation was kind of an odd deal, but it went really well. We had a corner tub in there and the installer had to take the corner out, build it up, and get it straight in there. He did a good job. Also, I really like the walk-in tub. We've showed it to a lot of people and we've always talked pretty highly of it.

I called Safe Step and we made a date. They came and looked at the house and measured to make sure everything would fit. They gave me an estimate. I thought about it for a couple of days then called them back and confirmed that I wanted the work done. They scheduled the work date. They came, did the work, and the tub works great, just like it's supposed to do. I'm old and my hips and knees don't work, just being able to sit in water is a wonderful thing. I like that it's a tub that I can get into it and out of because I can't get up from a regular tub anymore. I'd recommend Safe Step.

The installation crew of Safe Step was very good. They didn't waste any time. We live in a condominium and our condominium approved them putting it in. They told me they could get it in in two days. This place is built like a fort. They ran into some problems they weren't expecting. The concrete is so heavy here that the jackhammer they brought wasn't really strong enough to do the job as quickly and as efficiently as they wanted. So they had to tear a little bit extra. But they got it done. They explained to me on the second day when it was completed how to work it. They gave me the manuals and told me that I would have an inspection at a certain time and they asked me to please have the tub filled to a certain level so that when the inspector came he could immediately get to what he needed to do to check it.
Everything went like clockwork. The inspector came exactly when they told me he was going to. The guy was happy with it. He wasn't here very long. He went through whatever all he does. I used it and I had a question about something. I called my salesman and he answered it. I did exactly what he said. I had the plastic-covered instructions out. I'm happy with it. I have good water pressure here and that enables it to get right on what it needs to do.
So far, it looks very nice and easy to clean. The only thing I have a little problem with is cleaning behind the door. Once it's been used and I can clean part of it while I'm in there, there's some of that stuff I don't wanna spray on me when I spray in it. I have to lean over the door and get in behind it to make sure I've got everything out of there. But it's one of those things I'm gonna learn more as time goes on with it.

The Safe Step salesman called us and he knew everything and we were trying to digest everything in a very short period of time, which is difficult to do at 88 years old. But he did a good job. He made a sale but I wasn't really ready to make a sale. I was ready to find the information from two or three different people, but he cut the corners very sharply and told us what was there.
The installers were very prim and proper. They cleaned everything up and it was like brand new when we walked in. I only use it twice a week though because the electric hot water heater is expensive. I'm thinking about putting a 100-gallon natural gas hot water heater in, that might take some burden off the cost of electricity.

My husband has medical problems and I also have right foot problems. Our daughter who lives with us had surgery for both of her feet. My husband was worried since we're getting older and he didn't want to leave us having to deal with our bathtubs and showers. He wanted to make sure that we could get a shower while we are sitting down and wanted it to be more comfortable for us.
The salesperson that came out was really great. He showed videos and talked to us and explain everything to us. He was very thorough and he answered all the questions. Also, we deal right with the people that are building the product and bringing it to us. The sales guy told us that with a lot of places if you have a problem with the product, you call one person who has to call another person because that is not their deal and it was somebody else's responsibility. We didn't want to deal with any third parties. We know we have one phone call to make to Safe Step and it'll get handled.
The installer came on Thursday and started the work. They were there early at nine o'clock. We left at about 11:00 and by the time we got to Disney World and were checking in, my husband was calling me, saying the installers were almost done with both of the walk-in tubs. They came back the next day and checked on it. The crew was great. They were three guys. It was beating and banging for a little while. I didn't realize how much it took to take out the wall and knock the door then put everything back. I left for three days with things on the front yard and when I came back, both the two bathrooms were transformed. The crew cleaned up everything afterwards.
We had one minor leak in my daughter's bathtub around the door area. When we got back on Sunday, she took a bath that night and that’s when we realized there was a leak. We called Safe Step on Monday and they were there the day after. It was just one man that came back and he sealed up the leak immediately. He checked both of the walk-in tubs, though.
My daughter paid her deposit on her bathroom and the contract’s in her name. She has her walk-in tub in her bathroom and we have ours in our bathroom. It's awesome and she loves it. It seemed like a lot of money for the two of them initially but in the long run, it was worth it. Our daughter works nights and sleeps days. She loves on the weekends to just take a nice, hot bath. She actually used the micro air and she told me how soft her skin is now. She can't get over that.
I love the hand nozzle because I can sit down and do my hair. There's also the room that we've got around it to put things in. It may look small, but it does afford us a lot more room than I thought it did. I've only taken a bath a couple of times since I got the walk-in tub. One of the first things Safe Step showed us was the thing in the back that could hold the oils. It pretty much has everything. My daughter has a place to set up her phone on one of these little holders and she just relaxes with the pillow.

Their rep John was very nice. I really appreciated working with him. But I'm having a problem with the bottom of my tub. It's not insulated completely on the floor. I have called them to send someone else to complete the job. I can use the tub but I'm considered about it not being basin to the floor. My son tells me that the basin is there to protect the floor in case the tub should overflow. It's done halfway but it has to be completed. Other than that, they did a beautiful job installing the tub. It's very beautiful.

Updated on 04/28/2023: The two gentlemen that were here for the installation were very courteous. They did a beautiful job. If there was any explaining they needed to do, they explained to us. It was a very good experience. The total process took six to seven hours. We just probably should put in a bigger hot water heater. The quality of the work was very nice. We had hot tubs before, so it would have been nicer to have a bigger tub. The gentleman said that if they had made a bigger one, they'd have to put it in before the rest of the house is built.
We've had hot tubs before, and you can stretch out. You really can't stretch out in the Safe Step. The features are fine. The water jets are a little bit on the harsh side for me. The airflow is much gentler. Another thing is that I noticed in their advertisements that everybody's sitting in there with bubble baths, and in the instructions, it says, “Do not use bubble bath.” Other than those, I'm very happy with Safe Step.
Original Review: We have no order number, just dates and signatures. We have received a call asking when would be a good installation date stating the tub could be here in a week or so and we advised that we are ready on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 in March. We have not received a date yet.

The salesman said a fifty gallon hot water tank should be sufficient. After changing the elements and thermostat in my hot water heater and still not having enough hot water to fill the tub I measured out 50 gallons and it didn’t fill the tub enough to cover the jets even with me in the tub. The salesman misrepresented how much water it takes to fill the tub. They also said the tub has heated seats. The seats barely get warm and take 20 minutes to do so at which time the heat automatically turns off. The installers were totally unprofessional and sloppy. I can’t believe I paid almost $20,000.00 for a tub that uses way more than 50 gallons of hot water and still doesn’t totally fill the tub. It also takes a long time to fill before you can enjoy the bath. Total waste of money. I feel like calling Safe Step and telling them to remove it.

The sales rep did an absolutely excellent job presenting the product and had everything answered. He's obviously qualified, intelligent, and presents a product very, very well. In today's world, too many people wear masks. He was in the house and he had a mask on. I said, “That's not necessary.” He pulls it down halfway, blow his nose and mouth, and you have trouble understanding him. I gave him permission to take it off in my house. We weren't worried. That may be minor, but it annoyed me. It doesn’t look very professional.
A set of techs came over for the installation and determined they couldn't do the wiring. The house has some odd configurations. But he was a very polite and nice guy. I'm not an electrician but I told him what I thought would work but he said he couldn't do it that way. So he left. Someone called the Director of Installation called me after a couple of days and sent someone over, his partner, and they looked at it and they determined, “Yeah, we can do this. But here's how.” It was actually the way I suggested to start with. I'm not criticizing that. I'm not an electrician and they know what's ultimately best.
Days passed and I had to follow up and say, “Hey, you calling me about this or not?” But his guy's out of town. So a couple more days passed and two guys came over. They were very professional electricians. They must have taken an hour and a half, which I didn't care when done right. Then they left, and this “Director of Installation” had to get “permission” to run it that way to me interprets that you've been lying to me because you had your own company, and to spend the extra money from Safe Step, you had to get permission. Now, that was deceitful.
The second set of techs came over to install the tub and they were super fine guys. They were friendly but not jovial. They were also professional. The product looks great. Everybody compliments it. But there were a couple of minor glitches as far as how it fits. I'm not happy with the tub. The first time we tried to use it, it wouldn't work. I turned the breaker on and we tried it the next time, switching modes through the breaker again. So I called Safe Step and complained.
I talked to the first lady named Sable. She said she'd start a work ticket on that, and they’d get right to it and appreciated my concern. One week later, I called back and said nobody contacted me. I've talked to another lady and she said, “Well, we give the techs 5 to 10 days to respond to a complaint.” I just paid $18,000 for this tub and they were too busy to take care of a problem. They told me that I can use it without the modes. I said, ‘I didn’t buy an $18,000 tub. I wanted all the benefits.”
Then I was referred to someone else who quoted me their policy. I said, “Let me explain something to you. I'm not stupid. I'm a businessman and arbitrator and mediator and I dealt with some networks in my life. Policy exists for one reason. They screw the ability to utilize common sense. No one would listen to me and get the same policy. I don't like that.” Again, they said they were booked out heavy. The attitude from Safe Step is, “We’ll look at you when we choose to.” To this date, no one has even called me after me calling. The tub is rendered useless.

The sales representative that came out let us know the benefits of the Safe Step walk-in tub, and he didn't do any of high pressure tactics like, “You gotta make a decision today. The price is gonna go up.” We were getting ready to set up for installation when we found out that my husband had congestive heart failure. We didn't get the tub installed because we’re getting ready to sell the house and we're gonna move back home with our daughter.

The salesman was a salesman, and he told me things that made it sound like it was exactly what I wanted. When they came to install the tub, the door leaked and they had to make some adjustments, and they thought they had it fixed, so they left. Then after several times of flooding my bathroom, I called them back because I kept trying to figure out now what I was doing wrong, and it wasn't me. They came and readjusted the tub. The repairman gave me some tips on how to keep the water warm and how to use the tub, which I didn't know before. I couldn't figure it out from the instructions. But even now, the water gets cold before the tub gets completely full. It might be a problem with our water heater because my husband tried to use it without using the tub at all, and it just run water, and the same thing happened. It didn't fill the tub and it got cold. So we adjusted the hot water heater. We're gonna see if that makes any difference.
Safe Step had so many safety features that it doesn't really work. It doesn't keep the water hot. If I had an inline heater, then it will be able to keep the water warmer itself without depending on my hot water heater. When I'm in my tub, I can't use hot water for anything else. It takes my whole 80 gallon tank to do it. So that's the big problem right now. Also, they only have the door open towards the tub. Afterwards, I was looking for options and there are manufacturers that make a U-shaped opening, and it looked like in the picture, it had two closures for the door. That would be much better. Even the way this Safe Step tub works, it would be awkward for a big person to get in. I have a cleaning lady and she asked, "How do you clean behind the door?" You have to get completely in the tub and squat down to clean behind the doorway. So it's just awkward.

They suck. They promised a lot that the tub would do that it doesn't. The installation was great and the techs who installed it were really good. But I paid almost $23,000 for the tub and I should have just gotten a shower chair. It's not very accessible. Also, the door on it, I have to squeeze in. I just had a new hot water tank put in. They had told me my hot water tank was good for the tub. But it can't even get it halfway full without the water going cold. Plus, I have to be in there for two hours to have the tub fill up all the way. By the time it's up my calf, I'm already done washing. The jets are not very strong and they're useless for my back. They just give a bit of bubbles but that's it.

The rep was very informative and personable. He dealt one on one down to a human level, not like a salesperson. He explained how it operated and all the things that it offered. The installation experience was fairly good. There was one portion of the wall that had damage on it but that was the only issue. They told me before the installation that they would have to do some removing of doorway frames and that they really don't do the repairs of whatever plaster gets broken. I'll have to get that fixed. Other than that, the techs put everything back and caulked everything. They swept and mopped the floor. They did a very good job on cleanup.
I'm happy with the tub and the way it functions. I like the microbubbles and my wife and I like the hydro jet and air jets. She has very bad back problems and leg problems. The tub has helped her in easing the pain. My wife is unhappy about the wall but I wanna see what I can do to make her happy.

I don't understand why they didn't put a little longer tub in. I'm not dissatisfied with the tub itself in terms of getting what I wanted as far as the health process is concerned. The placement of my shower for my mom to get in was a problem. So, we have another bathroom that just had a tub, and I said, “You know what? Let's check these out.” My mom is okay to get in the Safe Step, but when you open the door to get in, it hides that bar for her to grab to get in. It's behind the door. So, she tries to grab the door. I go, “No, mom. You gotta go behind the door.” She's 94 so she's not dexterous. I also can't even shut the door. It is so hard to push that handle down to make a seal. I have a hard time. I have to take a towel and help push it because it hurts my hand. So, I wasn't happy about that. That's a struggle, that I don't know how an older lady would do it by herself. It makes it a bit easier for me because I can hang on the outside. And the cleanup is a little easier, but it is hard for her to get her out and to try to grab that handlebar that is behind the door. That's crazy.
Also, we have that overhead shower, but it doesn't reach the seat. So, the shower comes down on her feet. But now she's cold because she's just sitting there in the air. There's no water to run on top of her. She can't get closer. The handheld shower’s great, but she only has one hand so she can't hold it and wash. So, she can't use that tub. I thought she was going to be able to sit there and take her time and wash herself, but she can't do that because she's not under the water so it's cold. I turn on the heated seat. She loves that. I put the lights on and she likes the little dancing lights. But as for her to do this herself, it's not conducive to that. You can't take a shower in there unless you can stand. I have to hold the handheld while I wash her back and she's washing herself.
And she doesn't want that whole tub filled. She can't wash her lower half if she's in a bathtub. After she passes on, I'll probably love it because I would want the whirlpool. Because I have a shower in my other bathroom, so I wouldn't use it as a shower. I would use it as a hot tub. But I didn't need to buy that big thing. I could have just bought a whirlpool bathtub for me. But that wasn't the point. It’s for mom. I wouldn't want someone to spend a lot of money on something that didn't touch anything that I wanted. And that’s sad because the salesman was here and he met my mom. He knew her limitations. I didn't have anything to look at but a picture, so it's not like I could tell. Until you put somebody in it, you just don't know.

I love the bathtub. The tub itself is fantastic. But the installers did a terrible job. They did such a bad job that a second person had to come and clean up their mess, but he didn't do a very good job either. When he left, the rain shower doesn't even turn on now and the shower bar that holds it up to the wall is loose. He left caulk. He didn't clean up the caulk as he should've. That was what I was expecting him to take care of. I've already spoken to their customer service people and they're ready to come back and repair everything and get it right. I wanted to talk to the sales manager and when he did call me back, there was something going on with one of our phones and we kept getting disconnected.
I appreciated everyone with the Safe Step business, except for the installers they sent. They were personable and very kind, and they kept telling me, "You'll be happy. We'll make sure you're happy before we leave." But they did the exact opposite. In fact, they rushed out of here. One was sitting in the car waiting while the other one was quickly going through telling me about the tub and the functions.

The installers came and installed the Safe Step tub. I had considered putting a different ceiling in, but I wasn't sure, and it was left unfinished. But the tub was in. Then after that, I had to have surgery and I was laid out for a couple of weeks. Because the bathroom is right off my bedroom, I didn't want anybody coming back. So I called Safe Step as soon as I felt better and said, "Can we get this fixed?" I got passed on and then they said somebody was coming up on Friday. But it went on and on. Sometimes they didn't return my calls. So I told them, "Look, I've given you plenty of time. It's not a big job to finish this up.” But they kept saying, "Well, we’ll be out Friday." I said, "Could you possibly do it before Thanksgiving? I'd like to share this with some of my friends. It's good PR for you.” But none of them called me back.
The product is well-made and they're very friendly. But the thing is with Safe Step, they were cash payment. When the workmen walk out, they want a check for the full amount. I did that and then I thought afterward, that's not right. Sometimes it's good to do that. I'm not against it. But usually, you’ll have an option of invoicing you in 30 days for the balance. If they told me that they were shorthanded and that they got a lot going on before Thanksgiving and they couldn't do it, then it was no big deal. I understand that. I left Safe Step somewhat of an acrimonious voicemail saying, "You know, this isn't right. Just tell me what's going on. You asked me to pay in full, and I still have an unfinished tub.” They said someone will come out on Thursday.

The rep was very informative and nice. But when the installers put that tub in, they messed up my tile. They chopped up three bucketloads of my tile. If I had known that, I could have got my tile man over here and he'd have got every bit of it and I could've saved it. When I got down there to the bedroom, they had already chopped it up and put it in the buckets and thrown it out. I also had an issue with the door. So I called the rep and told him about it last night. He said he would see what he could do. It's gonna cost me something to get my doorframe fixed. Whoever drove those nails in that doorframe didn't know how to drive a nail. It went all the way through the wood. But the installers were nice and polite. They had to come back a second time because it wouldn't drain. So the other guy came and got it straightened out.
It's nice to get in the tub, but it takes so long for it to go out and I have to sit there shivering and turn the heater on overhead. Also, Safe Step needs another pull bar in there. When you stand up in the thing and try to get out of that tub, you got nothing but one little hand bar up there on the front and you got to hold the pipe the hand sprayer comes out of. I have a very hard time. I have to stand up in it and hold on to that bar on the right and one on the left, and then I got no arm to get out with.

The installation was good and the guys were very efficient. The shower curtain was hung higher than I expected though. I have a 7-inch open spot from the bottom of the shower curtain to the floor so I'm trying to get some little things that will shield the water from going out of the tub. Their shower curtain rod is fixed in and I can't move it around. Also, my water pressure isn't high and that's unusual because the water pressure in every other outlet is good. I had an old-fashioned clawfoot bathtub and now I have to use a walker, and I couldn't use the clawfoot bathtub unless there was somebody here to help me in the bathtub and supervise it. So, I wanted something that I could use myself that would make me more independent. I chose Safe Step. There were two guys here most of the day, which I understood was going to happen because it involves both electricity and plumbing. They did their job very well. A guy came that evening to check it out, and I gave him a check. It was all very much as I was told to expect. It was done very well. The installation looks great. It's sort of like my trophy thing. I haven't used it as much yet. I had to leave a few days for the epoxy to just set, but I used it a couple of times and it's great. The handheld shower is terrific, so I use that.
I could care less about having lights and music. It’s just not my thing. I just want to get in and get cleaned. I’ve done it without the jets on and with the jets on. I contacted Safe Step because the first time I used it, I had my home health care aide here and I didn't want to use it the first time without somebody around in case they screwed up. What happened was it was draining very slowly. So, she had to use a pot to bail me out. You can't open the door unless the water level is below the level of the door. So, it took a while for her to do that, but not as long as it would have if I just drained it.
I spoke to somebody at Safe Step, and they told me to use Drano, which I haven't gotten yet. I just lifted off the lid on the top of the drain so it flows more quickly then. I'm just going in and using the handheld shower, and not filling it up. I'm very pleased with it because I don't have to climb over this high thing anymore and I can use it myself. My new tub makes me more independent. I don't have to wait for somebody to come around and give me a shower, which I did before because I live alone. I have a home health aide, so I could only get into the bath if I had somebody to help me bathe. Now, I can do it myself.

They kept asking me, “Is there anything else that you know of we can do?” I suggested a couple of things, and they did it for me. They really did great.
We love the walk-in tub. Back when I first got the tub, I weighed 360 and I was scared that I couldn't get in. They brought it to the porch. They set it down. They unpacked it and made me get in it outside the house before they even bring it in the house. They even said that if I didn't like the way it fit me and I couldn't get in it good enough, they’d pack it back up and wouldn't cost me a penny. I could get in it and it took probably two hours for them to do all of that. They brought it on in and started installing it. I would recommend the product highly. It's got that microbubble that puts the microbubbles into the water. That thing is great. I’ve got really bad dry skin, and those micro air bubbles get in and break that dry skin off. It's really great.

The sales rep from Safe Step was very good. He was friendly and professional. My only issue was the salesman said that the job would take one day, and that was absolutely false. It took two and a half days because of the plumbing. They had to take out the old shower and I didn't have a problem with that. I only had a problem with the fact that he said it would be one day. I would have felt better if he had said, "We usually try to get it done in one day, but sometimes we can't." What I had to do was rearrange my schedule and that annoyed me because it was last minute. If I had an idea, then I could have planned ahead of time, and then I would have been okay.
The two gentlemen that came to the house to take care of it were absolutely wonderful. I have nothing negative to say about them. They explained the entire process to me. They explained what was going to go on, what was going to be done, and what needed to be done. If they ran into a snag, they told me and said, "This is what's going on. We have to do this." The first snag that we encountered was that the tub that they brought me was too small. They had to call in and order a larger tub. So, that took almost three-quarters of the day.
I like the tub. There is one feature that has to do with the jets that I haven't learned how to use yet. When I turn on the jet, it splashes everywhere. The jets come out from the back and the sides and it always winds up making more of a mess. That's not a big deal though. The other features are really good. I'm still trying to adjust the handle because it always feels like when I'm gonna close it and put a lot of pressure on it, I keep thinking I'm gonna snap it, but I was able to call them and they told me I'm not going to snap it. I just have to pull it in.

I like Safe Step. I did a little bit of research, and I wanted the company that was made here in Tennessee. So, that was even a better plus because my mother and father are both from the state of Tennessee. The sales rep who came by was good and thorough. I asked a ton of questions and I even have a picture of me in my tub out in the street because the reps brought it and asked me to sit in it to make sure that it was gonna be okay. It was a little too narrow and the rep sent it back and Safe Step built another one that was a little bit wider. So, everything was good.
I was telling a friend of mine about my experience when I got stuck in the bathtub. I got in the bathtub and I couldn't get out and when I couldn't sit myself over to get out of the bathtub, I said that I will never get down in this bathtub again. And I bought a Safe Step Walk-in Tub after that. Because I was not going to get stuck in the tub and have to call 911 and have them come and get me out of the bathtub. I've told all of my friends to get the walk-in tub now instead of later because even if you end up having home help or long-term health care, and somebody has to come and bathe you, it is easier to be bathed in a walk-in tub than it is in the traditional tub.
Everything went well with the installation team. But I tell everyone that the price that you see on there is just a starting price. You never know whether you're going to need a bigger hot water tank or whether you need your pipes redone, which I had to because they were rusting from the inside. I have two daughters and I love them immensely. But I didn't work all of these years to save money and have a good retirement and investment fund to save it and leave it for them. So, I am using the money that I worked for to make life good for me. I retired already but I'm doing everything to stay in my home.
Quality of life is very big for me. I finally met the man of my life and we loved one another for almost 25 years. After he died and I was in that tub and I couldn't get out, I had a panic attack and hyperventilated, and I thought of how I could get out of this tub. Something told me that one extra day is not promised to us and it's okay to spend our money on ourselves to make sure that we live a good life in our later years. I'm only 66 years old but I want to get to that point like my mother who is 92 years old. She still stands up and takes a shower. She gets in that bathtub. I offered her a walk-in tub, but she told me no. If she ever tells me she wants one, I'm gonna drop the money and get her one.
I've had the walk-in tub for a while and I just added the shower package to it. I just had that little handheld thing and it was just something to rinse off after I've washed up. So I called Safe Step and the guy said that they already got my measurements and could send the shower package out. So, we had someone come and add the shower package to my walk-in tub and I love it, and it's great. Even though I'm just your average person living in the average type house, in the average neighborhood, I got a spa back there. I got blue lights, aromatherapy, the bubbles, the lights inside that change colors and I even put an extra light in my bathroom. I told people I can just get in the walk-in tub and get out in five minutes.

From start to finish, the installation took about six and a half hours. I'm hoping and I'm quite sure that everything would go great. They filled the walk-in tub with water and ran the jets, and everything went well. I got the walk-in tub for my back and for the jets but mostly, I got it for my parents because they are elderly. He could have told me that, that door came open and all this dust and dirt is getting in your closet or something, but he didn't. And there was a little key that I wanted and it was sitting on the windowsill and it was gone. I questioned him about it and he gave me one. He said the keys are all the same but that little key was smaller than the one he gave me.
He showed me how the tub worked and he filled it up with water. Then when he showed me how he did it and it took a long time for it to finally drain. He told me I need a breather in there. The new houses have it and mine doesn't have one. He took me downstairs and showed me where I could buy one and get one put in. But there are no plumbers around here. The guy that sold me the tub should have known that because that's their business and they should have offered that to me and put it in. He was great but he should have told me that. My mother thought that Safe Step would be a better way to feel safer in the tub and not standing in the shower. She's afraid of falling down. The installation didn't take very long at all. Everybody was friendly and it was great. Everything's nice aside from sometimes, I hold it down too long on the remote control. When the blue light flashes in the middle, I don't know what that means other than it can't recognize anything I've done for the last two minutes.

I liked the price. And the one guy said, “You have to do it now or not.” I don't do business that way. But we still played with it. The rep was knowledgeable of everything. He was concerned with the safety end of it. It has some of those hand holds that you suction cup on the walls. Safe Step should have those in there. They're not safe. We did not get the door. They talked us out of the door, so we got the curtain. There's still a lot of water ending up on the floor outside. I like being able to stand up. The only thing is we didn't have a lot of stuff put in it. Soap, shampoo, and you almost have to open the curtains. We set it outside and that doesn't work well.

I never saw anybody any more prepared than he was, and gave us the presentation and showed us everything. We put down a deposit. A few weeks later, the guys came and installed my tub. And I was tickled to death. The major one’s name was Frank. He was as personable and as fun to talk to as any installer would be. We had a wonderful experience that day.

Whoever I spoke to made arrangements for someone to come here and speak to us, and to look at the situation with our bathroom that it needed to go in, and our electrical and water heater. And because my husband is also a military veteran, and he is on disability through the VA, all the things that you have in place for the special things like that, she deducted it from the total cost of the walk-in tub. And she said, “Well, this is how much it will cost you.” My husband put down $8,000. So, there was a balance of 13,000 that needed to be financed. She did it right there. Everything was approved the first time when she came. So, that worked out well. But my husband told me yesterday that he had already paid the tub off.
The rep was very friendly and outgoing. She couldn't tell us enough about the tub because she has one too. And they're like us, all of them love it. She showed us pictures also of customers that she had that have had different health issues with their limbs. And they had great improvement since using the tub with the jets. She was very smart about the tub.
The people that came to install the tub were very knowledgeable and did everything nice. When they came to install the tub, they brought it in and made sure that I would be able to get in and out of it because I only have one leg. They went ahead and installed it, and they were very efficient. It all went very well. The whole family loves it. And being able to get in and out of it, and our little three-year-old grandson likes to sit in the tub and get a shower, and push the buttons for the light. He said it's a spaceship. The deal about his fears about getting his head washed or soap in his eyes, when he found out that he could control the whole situation, it was amazing. And the lights, when you sit on the bench.
I’ve offered for my friends to come and use it here. I have a home health nurse. And when she comes, I tell her she could use the tub any time she wants. And she said she has been trying to talk her husband into getting one of those. I said, “I have the information, if you need it. But you could try it first.” And she said, “I might take you up on that one of these days.” I would love for everybody to know and to have a chance to be able to afford it. Because emotionally and physically, it is a calming, soothing experience. My daughter said, “You turn the bathroom lights on. You turn the tub lights on. And you just sit there and let the jet just gurgle. I don't want to get out of it.” My husband went in there a week ago. And he was in that bathtub for 45 minutes. He likes sitting in there with the jets. He loves it. I'm happy that we got it. I'm 79 and he’s soon to be 85. That was our present. It would be a wonderful housewarming gift for you.

He had put another attachment so that I could put the sprayer head down there right on the chair. So I didn't have to stand up or turn it off when I was sitting in the chair. I'm quite pleased. The Safe Step reps were very nice. However, there's not much room to sit on. If it was just a little bit wider there, not from hip to hip but from backbone to knee, it wouldn't affect getting in and out of the tub, but it certainly would make you feel safer. It is also extremely costly, but it is of good quality. I like the different jets on it. It's a longer tub than what I had. So, it's tough for me to get up on my feet. I've been in a wheelchair for 11 years now and it's really hard for me to stand up. You have to do that to reach anything behind the faucets because they're quite a distance. When the salesman from Safe Step came, he told us that the people coming to do this installation would be certified plumbers and electricians, which was a lie. Neither of them was certified in anything. I asked them when they got here and they just do installation work. But the fellas were nice enough. I did have one issue with the way they did the work. They had to run an electric line across the outside of my home to run current in for this unit. I asked them if they were going to put that in a PCV conduit and the guy said they didn't work with conduit. The best they could do would just run the PCV line on the outside of the house.
There are PCVs that are designed so that they can be exposed on the outside but the code says they're supposed to be in conduit. This unit that's installed here is actually contrary to the electrical code. If some inspector comes by and looks at that, he would order that this whole be taken out and it would be up to me to pay to put it back in. That leaves a real bad taste in my mouth. Other than that, they had the work done in the day like they said they would.
But the salesman also told me about how roomy this was and how easy it would be to move around it but the space is so small. They say you can take a shower in there but I don't know how you do it unless you're a contortionist. There's no place to move. I've almost fallen in it twice. And the door is so small, I can't get through it. They said that door's advantageous because I can lean on it and so on but I'd rather have a big door where I can walk through it. The other thing is those water jets in there spray every place except where I need them. I had this terrible excruciating pain and I told myself that hydrotherapy should do something for that but the nozzles in that unit don't strike my body where the therapy needs to be applied.
The way they advertise this tub is absolutely fraudulent and I intend to report this to the Better Business Bureau. I tried to call the guy who sold us the unit but he wouldn't return the call. Then, I tried to contact Safe Step and I was put on hold and I never got ahold of anybody. I can't speak to anyone and I really feel like I've been taken advantage of. I was a lot better off having a shower stall installed in my home. It's just a matter of me expending electrical energy, wasting water to fill the tub, and then getting no substantive relief out of it except a bill for $20,000. It's a $20,000 boondoggle and if I knew what I know now, it wouldn't be in my bathroom. If there's anything I can do to discourage anyone else from buying one, I sure as the devil will do that.

The installer was a very friendly person. I did call Safe Step back because they had to pull some of the areas from my tub so that it could get to the plumbing, and it wasn't sealed back properly. They said to take pictures and I took pictures but nobody came back to fix it.
The only thing is that you have to totally relax to take a bath in the tub because it takes a longer time for the water to run out. But away from that, it is very safe for me because I had two hip replacements and two knee replacements. One of my top reason for purchasing this tub is because I used to step over into the regular shower, and I slipped about an inch. It was so scary because I was home, and if I had dropped in it, I wouldn't have anybody to help me out. Another thing is that I can't use a regular bath to get into. So this is nice for me to sit and let the water fill up and just wade myself in it. So it's more comforting for me. The features are good, like the warm seat.

They didn't caulk the wall that they put up next to the wall that's in the trailer. They did leave a can of caulk, and I didn't ask them to. It took me several days before I found that, and I called him and that's when he told me that. But I'm disabled and my mother's disabled too, so we can't do it either. So it's like an unfinished job. But he said that I could take some cleaner and get the pencil marks off the wall.
The installers were very nice and polite. They explained what was insured and wasn't warrantied. They showed me how the things worked, filled it up, drained it, and cleaned it, and took pictures. My mother has been able to use it once. It's hard to get her in there. But once she got over being claustrophobic, it went pretty good. The quality seems to be pretty good. A gentleman by the name of John came out and when we saw the products, they looked pretty decent. John was very professional. He showed us all the parts and how well made they were, and he had a good spiel. But he never showed us a picture of the tub. I had a Jacuzzi tub but I'm in my 80s and I have trouble getting out of the tub. So I told him that I was looking for something I can get into and take a nice, hot soak. He went on about everything then gave us the information on the cost, which was a little over the top. Then, he told me the tub would be delivered to me within six to eight weeks. We met him on the 24th of February and I got a call telling me this tub would be installed on March 10th, which was way too soon because I expected it to be mid-April.
Then, I got a notice on April 4th from the permit department of Yavapai County saying I needed to go in to their site and get my permit so the job could be posted before the installation. But I told them that the tub had been installed already. So the issue here is the construction company, Cavalier Construction Company. They got the permit to install the tub but they didn't submit a drawing or blueprint on how it should be installed.
Now, I had an existing tub which I asked for to be removed and for the Safe Step to be placed in that same spot. But John told me that they couldn't place it that way and they needed to reverse it. In my mind, if you change the existing drainage, you need county approval. But Cavalier did not get Yavapai County approval to change the drainage. Consequently, Cavalier Construction came in on the 10th, pulled out my old tub, and carted it away. They had two men working here all day and they had my master bathroom sealed off completely with plastic tape so I couldn't see anything that was going on.
When everything was finalized, they called me in to look at the tub and I didn't realize that there was an issue. With my Jacuzzi tub, the side of it was a flat surface, but the Safe Step has two openings. One that's held with a little magnet, that narrow strip, and the access panel was blocked because it was butted up to the wall of our vanity in the bathroom.
On the 16th of June, the inspector, Brent, came in to inspect what was done and when he looked over everything, he told me the job is a failure. He commented that they must provide a dedicated 20 amp circuit to breaker panel with breaker identified and that an open tapping into an existing outlet supplied by a 14-2 wire is not allowed. So Cavalier piggybacked the electrical on me and didn't do it properly. His other comment was that they were unable to verify equipment bonding and that the tub must be located as to allow the removal of the access panel and have enough room to service the equipment. I've been working back and forth now between Sierra, the construction lady who oversees everybody, and the senior inspector from Yavapai County, about this. When I talked to the owner of Cavalier, Nick, he said there was no problem. He stated that the tub can be pulled out if work needed, or have the back slab removed.

I had a very simple conversation with Safe Step's sales rep and the installation was very rapid, though the tub wasn't working for quite a while. They thought it was a pump, they thought it was the switch. Finally, they determined that the electricians installed the wrong circuit breaker. It has been repaired now and the tub is working. I like that I can get in and out of it pretty easily and I have no problems with Safe Step, though I believe the original electricians were not really qualified to do their work.

The representative that came out gave an excellent presentation to me and my husband. He worked with us, waiting for us to get approved for our credit, which we did. They put a $1,000 down payment and we were supposed to put another $1,000. But the rep said, “No, everything's set for the payment.” Then we didn't start paying it until after the tub was installed, which was great. So it was able to get me to prepare for that month it started. Safe Step also asks medical questions in reference to high blood pressure, which I have. So they do go through the list of things and when they check that off, it gives you a discount on that purchase.
The installation took almost all day. But they didn't have issues with putting in the tub. My husband works all day on his legs and he's 66. We have the jets with the tub so when he comes home, I tell him to go in the tub. He said, “If you turn the knob just on legs, it gets the back of your calves,” where he feels like he needs it. It's nice to have the safety of being able to sit down in the tub and not have to stand up. I have a bad knee on the left, and I have a bad foot on the right. I have an unsteady gait. With this tub, you can sit down or stand up when you want. We are enjoying our walk-in tub. It's good.
We need to get them to show me how to do the buttons on the tub again because I couldn't remember everything the installer said. When you press the automatic drain button, it does not work. It did work, but now it doesn't. You can move the thing by itself. However, it’s tension. I called for a service call last week and Safe Step called me but I have not received a call from the company who's supposed to come out and check it. We also got an issue with the lights. But my husband said the lights are working now. Other than that, the tub is functional. But for $20,000, I want my tub to work 100%. It was a lot of money.

The company was absolutely brilliant. The people that came and installed did a good job. It was dirty before they came. They were fabulous to work with. My wife loves the tub. But it could be better if there was a little bit more space in the tub to open the door because my wife needs to kind of scrunch up in order to get the door opened around her knees.

But they were very nice and the quality of the tub seems to be very high. It was what I was looking for and I use it all the time. Safe Step's salesperson came out and did an excellent job of selling me on the walk-in tub. But there are a couple of things that I haven't heard from anybody since they installed. Other than that, the installers were very proficient and they did an excellent job. Everybody’s been extremely professional. I paid $19,500 for my Safe Step and it's a big investment. At the time I got it, I was debating whether to upgrade my truck or get something for my back. I'm glad that I got the Safe Step and I like the jets on it that are on my lower back.
But I have a 40-gallon hot water heater, which is only a year-and-a-half old, and it's not big enough because I run out of hot water about 10 gallons before I can start the thing working right. I've worked a way around this hot water problem though. I get all the hot water in, then I use the handheld shower, and I get nice and clean. Then I turn the heater on. It takes about 10 minutes and I can get more hot water. I also told my wife when I'm using it to not wash dishes or the clothes. But she can flush the toilet since that’s cold water.
Aside from that, the brochure that Safe Step gave me is for an older model. I got the rain shower way up top and I got the handheld shower, and all the instructions I have on that doesn't have those two items. And there are a couple of things that I don't know what they are, like the micro. I’ve got to call the main headquarters and see if they have an updated brochure because if you can operate this tub, you can fly a plane. It’s got a lot of features but there are only three that I don't know what they're for. My wife thinks she does, but the other day, she flooded the bathroom because she forgot to lock the door in.

Safe Step did a good job. The sales rep explained things well. The installer came in bad weather but the installation took him only six hours. So he did a good job. But I wish I would have had an extra grab bar installed. The guy asked me at the time if I needed another one and I wish I would have told him, yes, but I didn't. So, other than that, the tub seems to be working fine. It's so easy to take a bath or a shower. I don't have to move a bunch of stuff around and it's much more convenient.
Reviewed June 26, 2022
The salesperson told me so many different lies, it wasn’t even funny. He told me that my water heater would be just fine, but it's not. When I complained that I couldn’t fill up the tub to utilize the jets because I couldn’t get enough water, he said, “Well, how big is it?” I told him and he said, “Well, that should be fine. Maybe you need to have a plumber come out and look at the elements.” I said, “I’ve only lived in this house three months, it’s a new-build.” The person that came out that did the repairs said, “He lied to you. There is no way a 45-gallon water heater is enough to fill the tub up with hot water.” So here I am with this tub that I can’t use the jets unless I buy a bigger hot water heater.
When the little part that covers the hinge on the door fell off, Safe Step sent someone out to fix it. Also, the drain thing had to be replaced. We did that and it’s working. But now, another hinge fell off and I haven’t called them because it gets me all upset. The salesperson also told me that in no uncertain terms would Medicare pay for any walk-in tub, which is not true. The tub is extremely overpriced. It probably is a very good product, but there are others that are equally as good that you could get some help from Medicare. But I enjoy using the tub. I just can’t use the jets because I can’t fill it up. If that part worked, I would be happy. But I should have shopped around and got something cheaper.

The gal that came was better prepared than anybody else we’d spoken with. The tub is what it’s said to be. It’s safer to get in and out. It's comfortable and it looks nice. They did a good job of installing it. But there is one area where the caulking didn't stick to the wall, and water can leak down. It needs to be fixed.

I love the tub. I really like the microjets that put air into the water. The tub rejuvenates my skin and gets rid of the dryness on my legs and my arms. I've really been pleased with that. Safe Step did exactly what they said they will go on to do. The tub has worked out really well. My only problem is the length of time it takes for the water to drain out. I talked to the technician when he was here and then I've also talked with Safe Step again. The rep let me know that it was normal.

The salesperson was very good. But I was not happy with the installation team. The tub was fine but they did not put it in like I wanted it. They did a poor job of installing the drain on the tub. It wasn't draining downhill and then they took a two by four and nailed it into one of my joists and pushed it up and then another one to hold it down. But the tub has good quality. I like the water jets all the time.

The salesman sold Safe Step with a good pitch, but I'm not real happy with it. The tub has leaked ever since I've had it. I've had them out and I've called and called, and I called three weeks ago. I told the girl, “Hey, look. You told me to pop the button out and I went by the instructions. Well, the top of it broke off.” She said, “Well, we're gonna have to come out and service it, and it's gonna be $179.” One reason I bought it was that there was a lifetime warranty on the tub. But now they want $179 to go out and service it. I don't understand. The tub cost 18,000 and I've only taken a bath in it about 10 times in the past eight months. It shouldn't be leaking. I should be having better results than what I'm getting.
I like the water working as far as aerating. It's good for the massage. But I've never got the aroma therapy to work. I talked to them all about it but I never got any results. They sent me another one of the little containers that had the aroma in it, and I put it but I couldn't smell anything when I'm taking a bath. I can't even smell it. To me, the aroma does not work. If I don’t get any results this week, I'm seriously thinking about taking some action.

But his hired help left a little bit to be desired. One was on the lazy side. Also, my wife is a bit disappointed as the tub is a bit small to her. Additionally, the salesman said our water heater would handle it but we've got to upgrade our water heater. The heater handles the tub in the summertime but in the winter, it doesn't when all the water is dead cold. All in all, it was a pretty good deal. It has hydrotherapy, the air and the water jets. We're happy with it.

It doesn't look like it should and it's not quite in there right. But it doesn't take away from the appearance. Other than that, I love my walk-in tub and I like the shower. I wanted the jets and it's cool. I've been getting in hot water most days for so many years. I now have some conditions that make that difficult, and I'm able to get in hot water again. The problem is pushing the button. Sometimes it drains, and at a certain point, it stops. I had to open it several times because my drain is slow. And at a certain point, it stops draining with the push button and I have to push it over manually. For the amount of money I spent, I should have zero issues.

I like everything about the tub and I can hear my music too when I’m in it. When I first tried to use it, it wouldn't come on and the features on there weren’t working. I was in the tub and I had my phone with me, and I told my daughter to check and see if the green light that was supposed to be on for the electrical was on. And that was what it was. The sales rep was good and I liked him. My mother enjoys the tub but there are a couple of things that could have been done differently. The caulking doesn't seal well and I'm gonna have problems on my wall behind this. It should have been a one piece that comes up the wall and it's not. It looked good when it was done. But as soon as the water and a body is in there and there's weight, it separates.
The installers came back here and they caulked it again but I'm still having the same issue. They came in, we filled up the tub and they caulked it with the water in it so it had some weight, and they thought that would do it. It's still the same thing though. It still separated. So, I'll just be careful with the water splashing there. But it's hard to wipe it down all the time. The installers were saying there's not much they can do with the caulking. I spent all this money and there's gonna be water in the walls. So, there's going to be some type of mold and eventually, there's gonna be an issue. But I would recommend Safe Step. They did a very good service by putting it in. The tub works well and my mother likes it.

The lady came out to speak to us and explained everything, which was the reason why we decided on Safe Step. The installers showed up at the time they were supposed to. They came in and looked at the area. I was ready to drape off the bedroom but they said I didn’t need to do that. They said they could drape my bed if I would like, and I said they could. They draped the bed very nicely with plastic although it wasn’t necessary. They got to work and it had it done in half a day. They took out our tub and shower unit. It was very professional, quiet and they cleaned up after themselves. It was a good experience.
My mom uses the tub and she talks about it every time she gets out of it. She doesn't use a whole lot of other features except the air jets every now and then. She still says it’s chilly waiting for it to fill up but she's right next to the water heater so the water coming in is warm when it gets to her tub and she enjoys it. She has always liked to soak in a tub and it was just getting more hazardous for her to step into that tub-shower unit. So, it's been a good situation all around. She enjoys it. She'll soak for a little bit and then let the water out and then shower and wash her hair, which is good. It's much quicker for her and it's much safer, and we're pleased because of that. Safe Step has taken a lot of worry off me. My mom still gets around well and does well with most things, so at first, she said she didn’t need it. But now that she's got it, she likes it and thinks positive things after every bath.

We love Safe Step. My husband can take a bath every day, which he couldn't before at all. And I couldn't get out of those regular ones anymore, either. So it's wonderful. The handle fell off right away and they had a service person within the next day. He put it back on and he also saw something else that maybe the installers didn't put in right, so he did that. He said he would be calling me in a bit. I like the lifetime guarantee, I hope every time something goes wrong, I could call them, because I'm old. I don’t know what to do with it if something goes wrong. You can buy the walk-in tub at Lowe's but you don't have the electricians and the installation people, and they don't put them in.

I saw the tub a very long time before purchasing it because of the price. But at the time, I had a bad knee and I couldn't climb in and over the tub that I had. So, I decided this was the product that I needed to get in and out. But I'm sorry that I made the investment. I’m not happy with the tub. There are several reasons why I'm not. I'm not comfortable with it and there are things that are not working correctly. The water that goes into the tub, by the time it gets up to the level where you can turn the jet on, it’s not as hot as I would like it to be because there's some kind of a control in the tub that only allows the water to be 104 degrees. So, the man's coming over today to check that to see if it is 104. Because I don't think it reaches 104. I want it to be hotter and there's nothing I can do on my end. It's very upsetting to me. Because when I get in my tub, normally, I can make the water hotter or colder just by turning the knob. I can’t do that with this.
You’re supposed to press the electric panel there for the automatic drain. It wouldn't open up the drain so I have to sit there and hold the manual drain open until the tub drains. The gal who’d been working with me has been very helpful and accommodating, and the man is coming today to try to resolve that. I bought the tub and I'm gonna have to use it. But if I had to do it over again, at this point in time, I would not.

Also, my hot water tank was a little too small. They judged that wrong. I can’t fill up the tub with really nice warm water. Dennis was my salesman and he is arranging for a guy to come and do some sort of hot water fix. The guy was supposed to arrive the Sunday before. It is a miracle how the jets hit the right spot, especially around the knees. So, he's enjoying it because he's perpetually outside. I'm handicapped and when I got hurt, he built a whole ramp for me out the back, but that meant putting a door on and railings out there, and he just never stops. We're having trouble with the drain. When you try to drain, it will stop up the tub. But when you try to drain it out, it doesn’t drain out. I called the name on the Safe Step brochure and she told me to pull the drain out and tighten up the screw a bit. I did and it worked a little bit. But then the maid came and she was cleaning the tub that we told her not to bother with, because we think it’s touchy. But she may have stepped on the drain and something happened there. It happened again when my husband got it in last night. He had trouble getting out of it.
I don’t like the tub that much. Once I get in it, it’s fine. It’s just getting in and out. It’s made for a thin person. My legs are just barely on the too fat side to squeeze in that door and close that door. But my husband seems to like it. He feels safer getting in and out of it. It’s easier for him because it’s so short and he’s a small man. However, every advertisement on the television says you get a free showerhead and $1,500 off. But we didn’t get $1,500 off. We paid $20,000 for that tub. But the men that put it in were very professional and fast. They didn’t take up our whole day. It was a nice-looking installation job.

I'm not very happy with Safe Step at all. We had it installed on April 1st, and up until a couple of weeks ago, I was only able to use the tub once. The pipe that was bringing the water in flooded the whole floor. It was not installed correctly. They finally got somebody out there and they fixed that part of it. But then because of being flooded and the water dripped for so long, the mechanism got all shorted out and that didn't work so we didn't have any heat in it and jets and nothing worked in it.
Somebody came in now and they fixed that. They put a whole brand new mechanism and then after that, you’re supposed to have this pump button that you push for a quick drain and that was broken. They said they fixed it, but they said, “Empty half the tub before you can use it.” What good is that? I sit there for about half an hour for it to drain before I can use the fast thing. I would never recommend it. We have well water here so it takes 35 minutes for the tub to fill up to be able to use the jets because it has to go up to a certain level to use the jets. It also takes too long to drain. You also have to have at least between a 40 and a 50-gallon hot water heater. They responded fairly quickly within an appropriate amount of time. But it's still not worth the $18,000 that we have to pay for it. The only good thing that I really enjoyed about the whole process was the salesperson, Blair. He was really nice.

The gentleman who showed up is one hell of a salesman and he sold us. $18,000 isn’t pocket money. The install was good, and I haven’t had to call them back. The only thing I had a problem with is in the instructions, it says underneath the door is the white plastic plug. I take that out, make sure it’s clean, and put it back. However, there’s no way possible of putting that back. It doesn't go back once it’s out, so every time I go in, I have to be sure it’s sitting in there when I close the door or it will leak. My wife tried to help me put it back in and make sure it was stable, but it was loose. Other than that, we’re very happy with the tub. All I do when I get in it is I play with the buttons. If people really want a walk-in tub and can afford it, I would recommended they get a Safe Step.

Safe Step was amazing from the very get-go. The installers left everything so clean when they left, and they went through what I was supposed to do and gave me all the instructions. They did a wonderful job, and it looks beautiful. The tub is amazing, and I love every single thing about it, especially the Bluetooth.

He was here for a couple of hours and we went over everything. The tub was installed a month ago and I like all of its features. I slid in my bathroom floor twice before I got used to it though. Usually, I run a tub of water and I get in, but I don’t do that with the Safe Step. Now, I have to get in, then run the water.

In short, the most egregious issues with Safe Step Tubs of Minnesota, Inc. is that they came to splice wires from their newly installed heated jet tub to a bathroom outlet. One GFI services two bathrooms. They did not pull permits. They did not have their work inspected by the city. The general contractor's license was expired when work was performed.
The tub needs to be on a dedicated circuit. It is what I demanded, it was what was promised and stated as standard practice for them, and it is required by building code. The company will not return calls. The tub sits, not connected to power. Full payment has been demanded twice each time stating that the job is complete. It is not.

The installers seemed to know what they were doing. But for our first experience with the tub, we had a flood already. So it wasn't too good. It's a lot to comprehend right away. You're gonna have to do it slowly. The door on the tub has that handle and it needs two clicks. It has one click, then you got to pull it a little harder. You have to force it. I wasn't aware of that and that was where we had the flood. The water came through the door.

We thought the Safe Step salesman was great when he came out to sell us the tub, but he was much less than great when I called him when they were installing it. They were having problems. The installers first installed it in the wrong place. When I went in to look at what they had done, I asked why was it so far away from the wall. It was not where it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be where the old tub was. They said my water lines come up above the floor, and the tub wouldn't sit on top of those water lines. I told them they've got to do something else because I didn't want the tub all the way out, that far away from the wall.
The installer called his supervisor and they were on the phone. Meanwhile, I called the salesman ad he was a totally different person. All of a sudden, our house was constructed poorly, and that was not his problem if we have lousy construction. He was gonna call the supervisor of the installers and see if they could come out and reconstruct our bathroom. He said, “We're not in the business of remodeling or reconstructing. We just install tubs.”
I told him I didn't want a remodel or reconstruction of my home. He sold me a tub that was supposed to fit in the space where the old bathtub was. It was not fitting in the space so I told him he could come and take the tub back. He said they couldn't do that. I told him they could pay for whatever it would cost to fix the installation so that it could be installed where he told me it was going to be installed. He kept repeating the same thing over and over again so we stopped dealing with him.
We dealt with the installers after that. I told the installer I didn't understand why they couldn't put the tub where it belonged. He said a metal bracket right there was stopping him from doing that. I told him to move the metal bracket. He said he'd have to get approval from his boss to do that which was what he ended up doing. This was after about two hours of my mother going berserk because she just spent $20,000 for a stupid tub.
It's way too much money to pay for the product now that I've seen it. I would not recommend to any elderly person to spend that much on this product. It's highly overrated. I was thinking it was gonna feel like being in a Jacuzzi but the jets are not very strong. Also, the tub will not fill up with hot water. We have a 50-gallon hot water tank. The salesman told us it would be plenty but the hot water completely runs out before the tub is filled. We even went and turned the water heater up as high as it will go and t it's still not hot water. It's just kind of warm.
When I used the bath once, it leaked. I called the number that I'm supposed to call for service and they sent someone out. He was a very nice gentleman. He came out and refilled the tub. One of the jets had come off on the bottom. He replaced the jet. But we couldn't duplicate the leak. He filled it up twice and drained it twice, and we could not find where the leak was coming from. I was asking him if it could have had something to do with the foot jet not being in place. He said he didn't think so but now the jet is in place, it's not leaking.

The Safe Step tub was installed in one day. We're kind of surprised that it takes so much water. We have a small water heater and it only fills it up just a little past my husband's ankles. You have to wait until the water heater gets hot again for another 10 minutes to fill it up. Also, we had failed the first electrical inspection because there was something left underneath the tub. Then when we went up into the attic and saw what had happened and showed it to the inspector, he failed it again. We can't even get into our attic because the wires are sitting on top of all of our stuff. That was the end of April. We only want to see the guy with the license. We don't wanna see these guys that just come in here and do whatever. Nicole who was the one that we've been talking to with the inspection said that the guy wasn't coming back from vacation until yesterday. We are waiting for it to pass inspection.

I interviewed two people, Safe Step and Kohler. Kohler was 10,000 more expensive than Safe Step. When the guy came out, he gave us a video. Safe Step is made here locally in the United States. The other big key is that as long as we own the house, it's a lifetime warranty. Safe Step is also a little smaller, which is better for our 98-year-old mother. They did a wonderful job. I was happy from the person who came to the house and sold us on the tub to the guys that installed it. The company was absolutely wonderful. Everybody was very knowledgeable and they did exactly what they said they would do.
They had the tub installed within the day and it works great. We didn't have to do anything on the walls because the tile was still good. Since they took this oversized tub out of there and put this Safe Step one in there, we're able to have more shelf room in there. We flipped the door around when it was on the other side. The installers worked with me wherever we wanted to put it and it was perfect. It went well.
My mother loves the tub. She is not scared to get in it but she's scared that she'll mess up shutting the door and she has arthritis. I help her in and out of it. I'm very happy that we went ahead and did that because she was only sponge bathing once a month. Now I get by there to give her a bath once a week. I wish she would get used to it to take a bath more often.

Safe Step contacted me after the tub was installed to make sure everything was okay. We did have one tiny glitch, and they took care of that right away. I had done some research and determined that Safe Step would be the best purchase, the safest, and the best one for our needs. My experience was far better than I had expected. The installers were a little bit earlier than I had thought they would be. They were going to sit outside and wait. So, I hurried so that they could come in. My husband's disabled, and I wanted to get him out of the bathroom before they could come in and install the tub. They were apologetic, kind, caring, and helpful. The installation took so much shorter a time than I had anticipated. Now that the tub is finished, my husband is so secure. He can hold on to the high walls. He can go right in and sit down. There are lots of grab bars. The tub makes all the difference in the world in our lives.

There was no pressure, but great explanations and information sharing about the Safe Step tub. I was excited about it when I saw it, but especially for my husband who is disabled. They sold me and my husband, and he's hard to sell. My husband's afraid of falling and has difficulty getting in the shower, and this was an alternative for him that he could enjoy. It has so much to offer, and I’m really happy with it. I like the way the colors come on the water. The lights, the voice, and the sound, I just like it. It's a great and relaxing experience.
Safe Step gave us exercises to try, and my husband is trying some of them. He puts on his swimsuit, and my daughter helps him into the tub. We have a pool at our home that he won't get in now because he’s afraid. He can swim, but not now. He gets in the Safe Step tub every other night, and the water is really helping him, especially since he has developed an autoimmune skin disease called bullous pemphigoid, which puts blisters on his extremities. He experiences lots of itching too. Now, the blisters are starting to dry up. The water is so relaxing to him, beating up against his legs and arms. He just loves it.
The reps told me our door had to be pushed in and it was doing fine, and then it got too tight. It was also making a loud squeaking sound like it was gonna break, and it would have had I not called then. Safe Step sent someone right out, and the guy fixed it. Not only does the door open inward, it can open outward too. He did a great job with it.

I like the tub, but the salesman was not honest and even with great credit the financial company he used is terrible. The interest rate is 7.9% which will cause the tub to actually cost $35 thousand with the payment schedule. The salesman told me that my 40 gallon water heater would be fine, knowing full well that the tub takes 85 gallons to be able to use the jets. He also said payments would be deferred for 4 months. The financial company said 3 months, but of course started charging interest immediately, so at $50 per month interest, I don't feel it was actually deferred. I don't have space for a bigger water heater so I had to go with tankless, which including installation cost me $4,500. I am disabled and thought the tub would help me but all it has done is cause me financial stress. Unless you are wealthy, I do NOT recommend buying this tub!

The experience with the Safe Step sales rep was really good. We were getting ready to sell a house in another state. We didn't really want to make a purchase until we knew what kind of funds we would have left. But he was pushy on, “I can't guarantee this price after a week,” so we felt pressured into making a decision right there. We approved the installation because he also said that we could push out the installation until we had the funds. We felt the cost was pretty high but he said that overall, Safe Step was the best tub over any walk-in tub out there. It was made in America and the customer service was great. For their lifetime, if anything went wrong with the tub, they'd send someone out at no charge.
On installation day, the contractor showed up first, and they got to work right away, taking out a garden tub. But then they had to stand around and wait on the electrician. But the electricians didn't want to run the wiring under the house. They wanted to go around the house. My husband and I said, "For $20,000, you're gonna run the wire in the right way and it needs to go under the house.”
They said, “We can't go under the house because we've had people go under houses and then they get sick and they breathe in all kinds of junk.” My husband talked with the contractors and they called their boss, and somewhere in there, the electricians’ bosses called, and said, “No, you need to run the wiring under the house .” So they had to call their boss to get that approved.
From the get go, I was under the impression that the tub was going to be put in a catty corner. But it was not put in catty-corner. It was put in flush with the wall, which is fine. I just don't think it's aesthetically as nice as it could look. Once they got everything hooked up after the electricians were done, they ran water in the tub and checked to see if everything worked. The door leaked a little bit, so they did some adjustments and then told us to leave the water sitting in it for 24 hours. We did that. I tried to use the tub, but our hot water heater is not big enough to fill the tub and the salesperson said it would be. So I can't use the tub yet because I've got to put in another hot water heater.
The shower worked when I used it. My husband was hurting one day. He decided he’d try the tub anyway. So he filled it as much as he could and let the cold water run so that he could still use the Jets. When I came home, I asked him what happened with the tub because the floor was all wet. He said it leaked. He thought it was from under the tub.
The next day, I used the shower but the raindrop shower kept popping and would pop up, and then leak and spray all over the place. I said, “I'm not going to use the raindrop shower.” I moved it over to the handheld shower and finished showering that way. We called customer service to try to get someone else to fix it and that was Tuesday of last week but no return call.
I chatted. They said, “You gotta call customer service or email them.” I emailed them and they said, “You gotta call them.” I emailed back and I said, “I've tried calling. Nobody's returning my call.” The next day, I got a call after I called again. I explained to her what was going on and she said, “I'm going to have to put in a service ticket and the technician will call you to set up a time for him to come out.” That was last week sometime. Nobody called me the next day or that day.
I got a call from somebody. But he was returning my request for a service call and he was in British Columbia. He said, “Obviously, this got misrouted because I can't help you.” At which point, we contacted our sales rep and said, “This is ridiculous. For $20,000, we ought to get somebody out here or at least a return call the same day to get this fixed." The sales rep could have been more realistic, first and foremost, about the hot water heater. A 50-gallon tank hot water heater is not going to fill a Safe Step tub. You're gonna need something bigger. I also would have preferred electricians who would do the job the right way. I would prefer better customer service. I was told by the sales rep that when clients make a call, within 24 hours, they get a service tech out to take a look at that tub. But that's a lie.

Safe Step had a knowledgeable sales rep. The installation went very well. The installers showed up at the time they were supposed to show up. They did the installation in less than a day and that was including the electrician. The quality of work they did was excellent. As far as the tub, I’m not totally as enthralled with it as I was before I bought it. It's sort of a pain that you have to get into the tub and then let it fill. So, you're sitting there for 20 minutes. We're getting partially wet and I realized there's no way to avoid that. When you're standing in the tub, if the drain is up until the hot water starts flowing, there's not much room to stand in there and you wind up stepping on the drain. You always have to keep hitting the switch to bring it up.
The filler in the back of the tub is where the back of the tub comes up so you can lean against it. It sort of creates a shelf. Where the back of the tub ends, they could have gone back another 8 inches and just made the tub bigger. But there's nothing in that compartment underneath that would allow you to stand inside the tub and not constantly be stepping on the drain while you're waiting for the hot water to stop flowing. So, if you're not sitting down, it's not that comfortable. If it was a little longer, it would have worked better.
