Had sewer line liner installed to the tune of $6300 plus additional work done to the tune of $1800 total of $8100. When oked work to be done was never told of any discounts. Only to find out later of a senior discount of 10% denied because it was a quote. Then had additional worked done while on the job denied the senior discount. Then found a $20 discount magnet on my local phone book. Denied again because I had to present it to the technician at the time the work was done. Nothing said on the coupon. If they are going to offer these coupons and discounts at least offer them when getting a quote? So if you are a senior asked for any discounts and or any coupons at time of quote. Very disappointed to say the least. Would give it a minus 1 star if possible.

Roto-Rooter refused to provide an estimate on the phone. Upon showing up at the end of the day to a clogged pipe where poop water was overflowing over my yard and flooding the neighbor’s yard, the technician decided that $420 was the right price but would include a 6 month warranty to come out again and again. After trying a bit hard to unclog he determined that the sewer line was 'gone' and that the warranty would only extend to 1 month. Right then and there. Then when he made the paperwork for the invoice he did not note what kind of work he did.
Bottom line, the sewage line was clogged again 2 days later. Save yourself the headache of dealing with shifty people like Roto-Rooter who are unprofessional and abusive of the situation. The technician just looked at the pipe from above and quoted a price without knowing what the problem was. He could have done that on the phone. Then he proceeded to write an estimate of how much it would cost to dig up the whole pipe. His estimate consisted of a drawing of how the pipes should look according to his guess and a number of $6000 on the bottom of the page. No detailed explanation of any work to be done, scope or anything. NEVER calling them again.

Called for a blocked drain and a cracked pipe under the tub on Tuesday morning, quoted $99-200. Service was quick as usual. The guy they sent out caused an electrical problem in the house when he plugged in his snake machine, few different stories of what happened there but the boss kindly recommended we get a electrician out for safety sake which is appreciated.
The drain cleaning that took 45 minutes from the time the drain 'specialist' came out to when he left including time for discussions with his boss about the electric problem and an explanation that a plumber would have to be called to solve the issue of the cracked pipe cost $234. The problem isn't even solved. I have done business with this company several times over the last 10 years. Lots of choices in town, I'll call someone else next time (or really this time since problem wasn't solved). Feel ripped off. 1 star for the manager caring about the electrical problem even knowing he was losing a customer.

I called Roto-Rooter. They took a little time to come but it was fine. They came in. Told me the problem. Told me what they can do. I said I can't afford what they're trying to do so they went to see where the clean out was. Found it and told me they can not do... but they change their mind did it anyway. They were very caring, kind to me. They help me seeing I had my grand kids and charge me cheap and warranty. Thank you guys for doing what you did for me. I was very happy with the job. The Roto-Rooter in Tucson ARIZONA were very kind caring. Love them.

Roto-Rooter was called to clog a drain line outside, and ended up breaking a drain line inside my property. Roto-Rooter sent a third party repair service to fix the flooring damage, when I advised that I have my own repair company I want to use. They ignore my request to pay for the damages they caused. Then when I filed a BBB complaint, they lied and said they were not responsible when they never denied fault. I recommend never using this company for anything, it will save yourself a lot of headache as they are unethical and refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes.

I called 5 days in advance for a plumber to come to my home. They scheduled the appointment between 9-12 Monday and confirmed they would call 30 mins before arrival. I received a call Monday around 10 saying they were running late, but would call me 30 mins before arrival. They called again at 12:30 and said again they were running late but would call me 30 mins before arrival, they then called at 3:15 saying they were still running late and couldn't provide an ETA of when they could come out. I then requested we reschedule for Thursday. Never once did they apologize for the inconvenience. Just said it was because it was raining...
I called today needing emergency services informing them of my appt scheduled for Thursday but the issue had gotten worse and asked if they could come today vs. waiting until Thursday. They scheduled my appointment for today between 4 pm-8 pm - it's 8:03 pm and I haven't heard from them... I called them and asked where the plumber was, they said "We have you scheduled for tomorrow" and they needed to pull my call from today to confirm I requested services today vs. Wednesday... They pulled the call and called me back to tell me - they made a mistake... Again no apologies and said they have 1 technician who's been working the same job today since 4:00 today and there are other calls in front of mine so it maybe after midnight tonight if they're able to get someone out at all today... Look elsewhere. Don't waste your time on this company that won't show up!

I called for a clogged kitchen drain that needed to be snaked. Was quoted an emergency price for a Sunday of $500+ ($525 or so I believe he said). The guy arrived in early afternoon and took 3.5 hours for a job that should've only taken 30 minutes for someone that knew what he was doing. So 3.5 hours later I was slammed with a bill of $648 and my sink was still clogged as he couldn't get the snake through the reduction fitting 20 feet down the line. They tried to reschedule a "Journeyman" to come back, but when I asked they stated only the first 30 minutes would be included in the prior day's charges, then we would "discuss" what the further charges would be. I cancelled and called a local plumber who fixed it in an hour. When I told them I was cancelling because they ripped me off and left my drain clogged, their only response was, "Sorry to hear that". Well me too as I will NEVER use Roto-Rooter again in my life.

On April 11 I called Roto-Rooter because there was some water spilled on the ceiling from the water faucet. I called while I was on work when service tech arrived my home. He called me and said I need to have water restoration service. Then I asked for the estimate but Mr. James ** (tech) said my homeowner insurance should cover (no price estimates). I gave him insurance phone number, Mr. James told me my deductible is 500 dollars rest will pay by insurance (lied) then I was agreed to begin the work over the phone. My wife at home signed the work order. There was no price estimates written (TBD). Next day insurance company's agent came to inspect. He said my deductible is 2500 dollars. I was shocked. The house was hot because they left a air mover and dehumidifier, my 9 yr. old son couldn't breath.
I called Roto-Rooter to stop service and remove all equipments after 24 hours. The ceiling was dried already. My credit card was charged 500 dollars on the spot. Now they called me for another 729 dollars. It's ridiculously overprice. I denied to pay the whole amount but they reported to the debt collector. Roto-Rooter have no manners. They lied about the insurance coverage. I didn't know my deductible because I never have to use homeowner insurance. I would not work with Roto-Rooter if they told me the truth. Do not call Roto-Rooter, they will rob you blind. They should be brought to the justice for their dishonesty. I will write reviews all social media and will report to better business bureau. My friends family will never use them. I hope they go out of business.

My mother's drains were clogged up so she called RR. They were supposed to come in the afternoon but arrived at 8:30 AM. My mother (who is 90) let them in and they ran a video where they said it stopped at the foundation and that the pipe had shifted; it could be roots but likely the pipe and that they needed to dig outside. They gave her an estimate of $8,800 and had her initial a work order (I'm assuming since I was not there). My sister was sleeping through all of the and when she called I got a hold of RR and cancelled the work. They had already sent out a worker to mark for gas lines and the excavation crew was on their way. Needless to say they wanted to start digging ASAP. The work order also said they would dig a hole 5' long and 7' deep. If there was more damage they would likely have to replace the entire sewer line to the street at considerably higher cost.
I then called the person who had come over and asked why he did not first try to snake it out? At first he said he couldn't see clearly in the video because of the sewage, then said that he could not get his 200 pound machine down the basement stairs. I asked if they had a smaller machine and he said no, that maybe somebody else did. I called a plumber right after that and he came to the house and cleared the blockage with his snake/machine. This borders on fraud by taking advantage of somebody who doesn't know any better. I would stay away from Rooter with a 10 foot pole.

My hot water heater was leaking so I tried my plumber. He was tied up and so I called Roto-Rooter since they were a national company. They sent someone out within a couple of hours or so. They said I need a new hot water heater which I knew. They called around to find one to fit my closet and they had to go and picked it up and would returned the next day.
I have a modular home and I found the same water heater and the price was $500 plus tax. They charge me $871.62 for heater which is about 75% then charge me $650 labor which was too high. Then the overflow line from pop off they had two kinks in the line and had to come back and fixed that. Replaced the gasket on bowl charge $150. My bill was $1691.57. The only thing good about this was the two techs were very nice and clean. I would not use them again because it was entirely too high.

I am a handyman and had bath cabinet ready for serviceman. He looked at situation, four feet to main drain. Gave me estimate which I misread and being senior did not hear correctly. We moved into this property 3 years ago and drain was slow. We used plunger and improved it. When I remodeled, placed new toilet, sink and cabinet. There was in trap extensive hair, someone washed their hair in sink. By previous plunging pushed some hair in drain pipe and over time started to slow again. We used plunger again and sucked it back up to stopper unknown to me. I gave up and called crooked Roto-Rooter. He estimated $256.95 which I did not realize, all he did was remove stopper and remove a big wad of hair. He had no mercy, evidently sent my OK to crooked Roto-Rooter and I was stuck.

After talking to first technician that came out to clean our 3 rain drains, went with the jetted (water) and camera for $700+ dollars for 2 hours. The technician came out to clear the drains by jetting (very high water pressure), which can tear up your black drain pipes and Roto-Rooter is not responsible. We explained that the drains had been previously installed prior to us moving in the house. We had no idea where the drains were connected to when pointing to where the water comes out onto the property out of the drains. The one drain on the right side of the property was hooked up to two downspouts and had clear clearance. Then the left side of the house had two drains. One goes to the back of the house up a hill, who knows where it ended. Time was running and did not want to spend more than $700+ dollars to find out where it ended. Probably in our neighbor's yard somewhere.
The last drain went to a downspout. He did run water in the drain that the downspout was connected to. The water was trickling out at the other end. But it is weird that the tech tried to jet the drain line at the other end and all that came out was mud and big rocks. He had gotten as far as about 6 feet. He appears to be jetting the ground and that's it! No camera was put up this drain to see what the issue was and if it had a drain pipe that went all the way up to where the jetting was hitting soil. All he could do is send someone to give us a quote to dig up and re-install the drain. Heck no! I think it would be very cost effective for the customer, that the camera be used first to see what issues there could be.
Also, if a drain does not need to be cleared that would benefit the customer as well, so that the drain pipe doesn't get torned up. After he left, I reached in the drain and the drain pipe was only about a foot long. I pulled it out and reached up even further and I could feel hollow ground, no piping. I have since filled in the hollow ground with 80 pounds of top soil, to keep the ground at the top from sinking. I am sure there is still more hollow ground that needs to be filled in, but it was beyond reach. I believe overall, $700+ dollars was a waste of money.

The repairman very quick look at the toilet and stated, "Yep it need to replace it." He says I might have some parts for it and started to get them. I said "Wait, How much this cost?" He says, "$300.00". I say, "WHAT?" I told him, "The only reason I called you because I recently had back surgery. No thank you, I'll wait until I can do it". He asked me, "What did you want to pay?" which tells me he inflated the cost. I said, "Thank you but no thank you." I would tell customers to "BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY".

I have tried to get service from Roto-Rooter 3 days in a row. The first time was in the evening, and they said they don't have any plumbers in the area, so they scheduled an appointment the next day which was fine. The next day rolled around and they called two times to say they were running behind. The third time they called, they said no one could come out. Now I'm pissed! So they said they would be there the next day between 10-2 and they call again this day to say they don't have any plumbers in the area. At this point I needed to cancel to find another plumber.
No one at this company cares about keeping appointments or customer service. They actually got mad at me for being upset, pretending like they aren't doing anything wrong. These service calls are for my tenants, so I cannot wait around for Roto-Rooter to do whatever they feel like. IF YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT YOU KEEP IT!!! Completely unprofessional. I will never use this company again. I need a reliable company that actually does what they say. I only gave one star because I can't do 0. I will be posting reviews on every other website I can, because people need to know what they are getting themselves into. I called Roto-Rooter and complained of their predatory charging practices. The receptionist lady promised that somebody will call from their company in two hours to discuss with me on my "concerns" on the issue. Nobody ever called. On May 9, 2017, I again called the company and asked to send a plumber to fix bathtub leaky faucet naively thinking, that after I had complained of their enormous charging rate they will curb their appetite. My mistake.
Though I had beforehand bought new faucet cartridge, had drilled out the rusty screw on the handle and removed the handle, I was charged $256.02 for only taking out the bonnet nut, which I could not do for myself. I don't blame Roto-Rooter employees for charging their customers astronomically high rates, as they are ordered to act so by their superiors, by the greedy company owners. I warn other naive as myself seniors and young customers. Stay away from this rip off company, as there are hundreds and hundreds of honest and professional companies to do these kinds of jobs much cheaper, you should only look for them, which alas, I had not done by mistake...

Called Roto-Rooter in Adrian, Mi for clogged drain that I had put some celery leaves down the garbage disposal. Owner who scheduled appointment never gave me quote and when questioned Brian, the tech who came out, said he was told owner had given me quote. I should have asked for quote up front, tech said, "I hate when he doesn't give quote then I have to argue with the customer." Maybe if tech would give quote this would not be a problem. The tech was here long enough to charge 310.00 for hour and half. I told him to quit. I thought something was funny when he said there was the worst build up he ever saw. I had a new sink with pipes under sink put in last year. I am very careful what I put in garbage disposal and I clean my drains once a week with baking soda and salt and hot water.
When I questioned to see the sludge from drain he said there was some on rag in truck. Towels were wet under sink with some dirt looked like dark sand don't know if it was from his machines. After he got his machines to go he said he heard something from sink. And what you know sink was unplugged. I will never call them again. If you call them get quote and watch them every minute to see if anything comes from drain. I have no doubt I was taken advantage of.

We called Roto Rooter because of its well established name in the business. A technician came to the house and without providing us with a diagnosis or an estimate proceeded to maintenance our plumbing without our authorization. He then presented us with a bill for $500. When the shop was contacted (Newburgh, NY Edward Lang), the owner Edward Lang was sarcastic, unprofessional, belittling and argumentative. We have had to try to settle our complaint with the corporate office due to the owner's inability to appropriately navigate the situation.

About two weeks ago, I called Roto Rooter because the main sewer line in a house that I own appeared to be blocked. (I diagnosed the problem, and my diagnosis was correct.) The RR tech arrived quickly, though he did not call in advance as I was told he would by the dispatcher. And he cleared the clog-- tree roots that had penetrated into the main sewer line. He worked for about an hour, and the charge was over $500! He informed me that he had no flexibility on the pricing, and that whether I wanted it or not, I would be charged for a video examination of my main sewer line at some point a few weeks from his repair. This is absolutely predatory pricing. All the worse since the tech gets under $100 for the job, despite having to provide his own van and all his own tools.
Forget Roto Rooter... Find a local plumber with a motorized drain snake, instead. Still worse, though I've complained regularly, I got only one perfunctory response promising to "take care of this." Then, nothing. When I emailed again about the earlier promise, I got cc'd on an email to another bunch of employees in Boston, who were supposed to contact me. They still haven't written a word. This is the worst kind of corporate irresponsibility. I hope they quickly go down the drain...

Roto-Rooter, on the other hand, charged $485 to snake 20' of tub drain. (From estimate to clean-up the job took 40 minutes.) They wanted an additional $265 to snake a sink drain. When I protested the price, it dropped to $150. I declined to have that job done because I was feeling so ripped off. The charge was such a shock that I called the main office just to make sure that the plumber they sent out wasn't running some sort of hustle. When I stated that I usually pay $150 an hour, the person with whom I spoke said their hourly rates is $269. I told her it was weird then that I was charged $485 for 40 minutes of work, an effective rate of $647/hr... She then said that $485 was, in fact, their charge for a sewer line cleanout. DO NOT GET SCAMMED BY ROTO-ROOTER. Wife at home with kid while husband was at work. On Thursday morning the technician arrived on time, said he couldn't get his rod all the way to the house so he called his field supervisor with a camera. Supervisor, Greg **, arrived promptly, ran the camera, looked at the sewer line from inside the house and said our problem was a collapsed/broken pipe at the house, quoted $5300 to replace with new cleanout at broken pipe. He said they cleaned out the tree roots and we could use the shower and toilets but not flush down the toilet paper due to potential clog on broken pipe. We were charged $429 to clean out the line, but if signed contract they wouldn't charge for rodding. We opted to call three other plumbers for quotes and pay the clean out fee.
The first company came out that same night, ran the camera through and showed us the sewer still had roots and there is no broken pipe. We called Roto-Rooter first thing next morning, they sent out another plumber that evening who couldn't do anything without charging us $400+ because Thursday's rodding was a "no guarantee". On Saturday the company sent out the first technician with Greg ** to finish the job they started. He again tried to tell us that our problem was the broken pipe and not the roots. Needless to say he didn't do anything that day due disagreement. Said he wouldn't camera the line again without charging us $425.
Sunday/Monday we couldn't get a hold of anyone at Roto-Rooter, and no one returned our phone calls from local office and corporate. Monday the third and fourth plumbers came out and told us the roots are still clogging the sewer line, and we don't need to replace the pipe as it's not broken. Roto-Rooter management on Friday evening said we would have Greg's video emailed on to us on Saturday, Greg said we would have it on Monday. Still don't have a video from roto rooter showing a broken pipe.

Tech experienced and nice. Claim that quote free, however, before even looking would ask you to sign 269$ for assessment. I signed, but would recommend to decline and send them away. Contacted Roto-Rooter because I saw so many ads. Thought they were reputable and fair. My mistake. I should have checked the reviews online. Problem: Clogged kitchen drain. Needed a snake to get in under the disposal. Should be a 15 mins job with the right tools. What happened: Called the Roto-Rooter 800 number. They were very polite but would not quote a price. Said the plumber will inspect and quote. That wasn't true. Because there was a price list for services. Plumber comes in on Fri afternoon. Takes a look and quotes $450 for the services. But will do it for $349 because he can give me a discount. Given that I have a party on Sat morning I decide to cough up the money. Ugh. I feel like I was robbed.
I had seen the local plumber quote $125 for the same job. Guy does a good job. Very nice service. Then he says if you give us a good review then they will run a lottery and may refund your service fee. That is just wrong! I wonder how many people will write a good review hoping to win the lottery while misleading other customer! Anyway, I am kicking myself for not comparing their prices with other vendors. Unclogging a drain is not rocket science. It should not cost 450 bucks. Hope you don't make the mistake I made!

Roto-Rooter charged Farmers Ins. over 4k to do some plumbing work at my sister's house. Then 378 dollars to my brother in law (a Disabled Vietnam Vet) to replace 3 water shut off valves, 15 dollars parts and 20 minutes labor. Clog not fixed, Roto-Rooter called back, could not clear clog, advised brother in law it was a 7 thousand dollar job to clear clog and charged him an additional 235 dollars for visit.
I called Aaron's pumbing who cleared clog within ten minutes at a cost of 75 dollars. I had a water leak at home. The water below the sink in the first floor had leaked and came down to the ceiling. I called to Roto-Rooter. They were supposed to tell there is a charge for visiting of $115 which I wasn't aware of. A guy stopped by at door, still said nothing about a charge, looked where the leak was. He didn't touch pipe, he said there was no issue. He mentioned that there could be something above the ceiling the water is leaking and left my home. I got an invoice for $115. When I talked to manager about the invoice over phone, he said that's their policy not to tell the charge of $115 upfront, but needs to be paid. This I think is unacceptable.

Serviceman arrived at residence and asked what problems I was experiencing. I stated bathroom and kitchen were backing up. He then quoted 250.00 and what method of payment I had for services. He unclogged bathroom and then said he couldn't clean the complete sewer line because of roots and showed me bathroom was now draining. He said he would bring invoice to me to pay and sign. I asked about kitchen and he stated it should be working. I said I wanted kitchen checked. He told me it was a separate charge and he had cleared sewer and kitchen should be working. He then checked kitchen sink and found it was clogged and unclogged drain line and charged 110.00 extra. I am disappointed with lack of clarity for charges and attention to services that were asked for.

We have a main line clog. We had a couple other plumbers look at it and let us know what needed to be done. The other plumbers were very busy and let us know that Roto-Rooter could probably get to it faster. So we called Roto-Rooter. They showed up said that they could not fix the problem because we do not have a main cleanout and that the toilet was not an option. Other plumbers explained that toilet may be an option and told us where a clean out could easily be cut.
Roto-Rooter guy says that he cannot do that and said we would need to wait until spring to dig a hole and cut a clean out. This would be about $3000.00. Then tells us that he needs to charge a $50 service fee. HE DID NOTHING. But then remembers that he drove and needs to charge a $60 travel fee. He drove 26 miles because we live in a small town. So I was charged $110.00 for nothing. My dad called after hearing this and asked about the plumber's credentials. Based on the response he doubts the plumber was licensed.

We called because our laundry room and garage were flooding. We had called 2 years ago with the same problem and spent a lot of money then. We paid 235 for the services (on Saturday) and we should have denied paying upfront this time because they did not have the camera to see what was causing it. It was an incomplete service. They then said they would call back on Monday to come out. I heard nothing all week and called the following Saturday. I should not have to hunt anyone down to finish a service we paid for. When I spoke with them on Saturday I was told I would get a call as soon as we hung up from someone who will come out that day. We hung up and I received no phone call all day.
I received a call on Sunday instead. They asked when they could come out. I told them Tuesday after 5. This was set up. Tuesday came and went without a call. Then we received a call Wednesday asking if they could come out Thursday. There was no explanation of why they did not show up or apology. At this point we said enough is enough.
I have been trying to get a hold of a manager since. I do not want the camera as it is now a month later. I want our money back for an incomplete service. It is ridiculous that I cannot speak to a manager and every time I call (which has at least been a dozen calls) I am told a manager will call me within the hour and every time I receive no call. We will never use Rotor-Rooter or recommend them to anyone. We felt that we were being very patient and understanding and now we are DONE. Finish a job you start and do not make appointments and not show up. This is the worst customer service we have ever experienced.

I called Roto-Rooter on Sunday January 15, 2016 for a clogged drain line, as I was unable to drain the bathtub or flush the toilet. When I called I explained to them what the problem was and requested an estimated quote. The Roto-Rooter agent informed me that the technician would provide a quote after he assessed the issue. The technician arrived, assessed the problem and told me that he would snake the main drain from the street to the house for $265.00. I allowed him to proceed.
After snaking the drain for approximately one hour, he was unsuccessful in unclogging the drain. He told me that the drain pipe was probably collapsed due to overgrown roots, he also informed me that they would have to "hydro jet" the drain line to the street at a cost of approx $4800.00! He told me that they would return on Tuesday and run a camera in the drain pipe. The technicians arrived and inspected the pipe with the camera. The other technician confirmed that the city vent trap must be removed and hydro jetted, and provided an official Roto-Rooter quote (**) in the WHOPPING amount of $4,800.00!!
I thought this amount was exorbitant and decided to get a second opinion. I called another local rooter company and explained the situation, the company provided me with a quote over the phone of $65.00. The other local rooter company arrived and ran the snake to the house and to the street. The clog was cleared after 20 minutes of work. Please beware of this company, as they are known to overcharge customers and charge for unnecessary work, as the technicians are paid a commission on major unnecessary jobs!

We have a house my grandfather built in 1952. We were put on the sewer system in 1979 when it was finally available in our area. Back in 2003 I had a major drain backup due to tree roots penetrating the cast iron drain. I called Roto-Rooter to come out since that was the only company that could run a drain snake, the 350' needed to clear out the roots and the drain.
A week ago, 13 years later, the drain backed up again. Knowing how much money I spent back when I first had it done $350 I tried to do it myself. I was unsuccessful. I called Roto-Rooter out because they did a good job the first time even though I knew it was going to be expensive. The tech came on time and informed me it would cost $575! I was not happy but the guy was really nice and professional and living without hot showers and toilets that flush is just not an option. He ran a total of 135' and it seemed to fix the problem until Thanksgiving day when all the toilets stopped flushing and the shower and tubs were backed up with disgusting raw sewage. The original tech gave me a 6 month warranty so I called to have them send someone out to honor the warranty.
Finally about 2 hours later than scheduled a different tech showed up. He was a rude little Russian guy who was giving me the stink eye from the minute I approached him. I first told him this was a warranty visit, he just stood there outside my house staring at me for literally 2 minutes without saying a word. He finally said in his thick Russian accent he only had a 100' snake and that no one had a snake longer. Basically he was calling me a liar, I told him the only reason I called in the first place was because they used to be the only ones that could snake over 300'. He insisted no one has a snake longer than 100' in his company. It took me about 15 minutes of arguing with him almost me beating the crap out of him because I wasn't going to let him in my house and I wasn't going to pay another dime for him to waste my time.
I called dispatch and told them to send someone competent with a longer snake to do the job right. Dispatch said they would have another tech out the next morning between 9 am and 11. At noon the next guy came out on crutches with a helper. Again they only brought a 100' snake and told me no one has a longer on. Knowing this is total b.s. because I could rent a 200' snake from Home Depot, I started to see what was going on. They were trying to charge me a 2nd truck additional equipment charge of $200+. In other words, I spent $575 and got a warranty that absolutely useless since they will do everything they can to charge you additional money despite their warranty. I will never use them again.
I'm now tasked with digging up the 350' of drain line and installing clean outs every 50' so I can snake the line myself with the 50' snake I own (I'm a handyman by trade). Bottom line, call a real plumber if you need work done. It will always be expensive because plumber all make the big bucks but at least you won't be screwed by the bait and switch tactics this awful company uses to get in the door and avoid honoring their warranty. They are crooks plain and simple.

Well we recently purchased a home. We knew that the yard flooded but since it had a sump pump in it we felt we could deal with the flooding for a day or less. Well as it goes the 2nd year in the home the interior sump pump went out and the yard wasn't draining so we assumed the backyard pump went out also. So we called Roto-Rooter. When they came they gave us an estimate of 1400.00 dollars. Trusting them we agreed to have the work done also the fact that our basement was flooding. So we had the work done.
A week later the backyard pump stopped working, I called for service and they sent someone out right away. Because I was working I had to verify the work after he had gone. The pump was working but I noticed that some of the screws were rusted. I found that to be strange so I called and asked how soon should the screws start to rust and I was told it depends on the water. I thought hmm. Not wanting to call them out in the respect that whatever they did they just got the existing pump to work and in fact never gave us a new one.
Two weeks later it stopped working again, again I called and someone came out. He stated this time that the pumps was sucking up rocks and the current pit was collapsing. I inspected the pit and could not determine it collapsing however it did seem to be old and at this point we wanted this problem to just go away. Since they had started the work we agreed to let them finish at an amazing 2900.00. In which we were coerced into getting a credit card from some people they work with. After all of this we felt pretty stupid. We believe that there was never a new pump installed in the first place. We also had a drain running from the neighbor's yard which they said they would disconnect. Being thoughtful this time I was able to be at home and follow up with work.
As the repairman started to finish the job I noticed that the drain pipe from the neighbor's yard was still intact and it was connected to the pump! I explained this should not be, the repairman said he had planned to dig it up and cut it. Now why would you do all this digging and not dig up everything at once? I then told him I needed to verify that he in fact did cut and disconnect the drain pipe. There were other questions about his work and he tried to explain himself but I felt he kept telling on his self. Like the first time we called him back out he installed another new pump. Now why would that be, and then that he was going to do more digging to cut the neighbors drain.
Finally I asked for a detailed invoice which he said he couldn't provide and that his supervisor would have to bring that out. I didn't sign for the job and am waiting to see what their next step will be. I wonder with all of the same complaints why there hasn't been a class action lawsuit? Because when I signed paperwork for the credit and asked for copies I was never given any.

I went ahead and called the company that I was referred to, however that company was closed so I googled and came upon Roto-Rooter. In desperate need I called them and they advised they was available to come out within an hour or two. I was thrilled (Worst mistake of my life). Anyway they came out within 2hrs as stated. The guy came and immediately advised that we cannot run the water or flush the toilet which was hard to do when you have people at your home but we obliged. He was there for at least 2hr or more and explained that it was a blade stuck in the pipe. After awhile he left and charged us over $500 to do absolutely do nothing. He then advised me that it will cover the back up again and call back if it happens.
As soon as he left the water leaked again and we just mopped the floor up and advised my guest not to use the basement bathroom. The next day they called me and advised that they was coming back (for what - not sure but since we was told that the cost covered the leak we agreed). At this point we think we are going to get this leak from the toilet fixed and that didn't happen. When they came they cleaned my bathroom and put some fans to dry it out. There was nothing to dry out because we already mopped up the water. For 2 days we had these fans and humidifiers going on our electricity to dry out NOTHING. Finally after 2 days they come back and that's when the nightmare really begin.
They cut out my newly renovated basement walls all of them saying they had to cause of the water damage. At this point I am highly upset because I literally just finished renovating my basement and to see all my walls gone, they ripped out all the new baseboards and my baseboard heating, They ripped out all the doors and now I am left with a gutted basement. At this point my husband was fed up and kicked them out. They advised that the insurance max was $5,000. We found out that our neighbor was having the exact same issue and problem all along with NOT in my house but in the street.
A month later they sent us a bill for $5900 for their work. Are you Freaking kidding me? They gutted my newly renovated basement for some freaking water that leaked on the floor and they have the nerve to charge me for gutting the whole basement and cleaning my bathroom. Told them his boss would have to come back the next day. The next day, the boss would not give them a quote and told them he would have to run a camera down the line. Charged them an additional $2,500 saying he "hydro blasted" the line - what a scam! They were there for less than 3 hours combined for the two different visits. That's approx. $914 an hour!!! Had a clogged drain on the 4th of July. In desperate need of a plumber I contacted Roto-Rooter to unclog the drain due to they were the only ones who could come that day because it was a holiday. So we hired them to unclog the main drain because water was backing up onto the floor. They charged us $568 to do this.
They also told us it would back up again due to a broken rusty auger blade was stuck in the pipe, that turned out to be a lie because the problem was in the street because the neighbor had the same problem. Then they sent a water restoration company to clean up and dry up the water, and these guys came and destroyed my basement that I just had remodeled, so they put in an insurance claim. Charging 5,900 for doing absolutely nothing except people's home and the maximum the insurance pays is $5,000 for a sewer backup. I believe these are very unfair business practices and this company needs to be exposed because they are nothing but thieves.

I was extremely disappointed with the company this time around. I needed a flapper and a flusher replaced from the toilet. I asked the price over the phone several times, but they said they would only quote it in person. I was quoted $275 for the service when the plumber came into the house. Then, I called the company back to verify it and they said the cost was $350 for the service and that I was getting a fair discount. (Were they kidding me?) They must think the consumer are a bunch of fools to quote something that high! I checked on Home Depot and I could buy 2 brand new toilets for the price, plus extra replacing parts with this price tag. This is something simple that I could do it myself, but I had a spinal cord surgery and am unable to do it at the moment.
I just spoke with another plumber who said it takes no more than 5 minutes to do the job. What is wrong with these companies trying to steal money from a customer? I understand everyone needs to make money, but is it right and legal to overcharge a $300 an hour for this type of job? I will be calling the licensing board to check the consumer rights. What an absurd. I am in shock!

I had a drain backing up into my house. When service person arrived I explained the problem. He looks at the kitchen sink and is confused because there is no standing water in the sink. I have to explain that it isn't the sink, it is somewhere in the line because it leaks sewer into the house when running the dishwasher or washer and that it is also backed up in the garage by the water heater. He goes to the garage and stands and stares at the drain and says "huh." Goes and looks at the water in the house. Well he says "I don't really know what to do since no water is in the sink." I explained again that three years ago the same thing happened and they snaked the drains and did something to the vent on the roof. "Oh ok I can get on the roof and try that."
Was up the maybe ten minutes, snaked the drain. "Ok," he says. "I snaked the drain. Here is your bill $125." "Do you give a senior discount," he said yes and gave me a two dollar discount. He was so young I started talking to him and found out he was 19, and hadn't worked there very long. He was only working a few hours that day and was heading to the beach as soon as he left my house. I wasn't at all happy with how he handled the job but was not going to call Roto-rooter and complain because everyone has to learn.

We showed him the toilet and the damage downstairs bathroom.
He checked out the toilet and damaged area in the basement and admitted the damage in the basement bathroom was caused by the leak from the toilet. He took pictures for the damages and called his boss, then told us his boss said they would take one step at a time. He will fix the toilet problem first. He removed the toilet and stated a flange extender needs to be installed. We asked him why to first repairmen didn't install it as this is. We told him we didn't think we should have to pay for this as it should have been done the first time and again asked him what they were going to do about the damage downstairs, he said he needed to call his boss after fixed the toilet problem. He talked to his boss again and returned. Told us there would be no charge for the extender and fix the toilet problem, however, they were NOT going to do anything about the damage in the basement bathroom. He made the repairs and departed.
The next day 23 May we tried to contact the manager in Roto Rooter. He was not answered the phone. We left a message and have not received a call back. On 24 May we called customer services/customer satisfaction which listed on the company's website (Pat **) whom we believe is at the main office, left her a message and explained we wanted to talk with her about the service and lack of good service the first time. We have heard nothing back from her. We are very disappointing and very angry to Roto Rooter. They caused the problems but don't want to take a responsibility to fix the problem. I needed a clogged drain fixed and some work done on a basement stationary tub faucet and outdoor faucet. I had contacted the Cincinnati Roto Rooters to do it because Angie’s List gave them an A Rating. I asked on the phone if they could send licensed plumbers who could handle all of the work, and they assured me that they would. Technician arrival window was 8 AM – noon, and he arrived just at noon. After discussing on the phone the items I wanted in addition to fixing the clogged drain, I arrived home around 3 PM to find that the technician was parked in the driveway assembling a new faucet assembly for the stationary tub. I asked him if he was a licensed plumber and he said yes, he was operating under Roto Rooter's license. I should have asked him to leave and return with a licensed plumber.
I proceeded to follow him into the basement where I discovered that my request to have him install a ball valve outdoor faucet was ignored and a regular outdoor faucet had been partially installed. He then showed me a ball valve that he planned to install above the dropped ceiling, to replace a leaky shut off gate valve with a weep port that was on the same line as the outside tap.
The technician was unaware of the function of the weep port and was preparing to install the ball valve in the same position as the gate valve, i.e. below the level of the outside faucet. I said that was unacceptable and asked to talk to his supervisor. His supervisor at least knew the function of the shutoff valve with weep port, but he said it was unnecessary. I said I was unwilling to have him install it in that position. The supervisor, who appeared irritated that I was delaying the start of his vacation, said that he would personally check it upon his return from vacation, and if not to plumbing specs, would fix it. I said that was fine.
Next, the tech proceeded to attempt the installation of the stationary tub faucet. I was forced to stay with him since I immediately saw that he did not understand that there were hot and cold water lines and that both a hot and cold line was needed to go to both the sink and to the washing machine. At 2 different points in the installation, he attempted to connect the hot and cold water lines together and I had to explain to him why that would not work -- in detail.
Meanwhile he was bragging about how good plumbers like him measured the copper pipe right and thereby minimized problems. Of course, this tech had no rulers, pens or markers or tape measure, and refused my offer of a tape measure. He did all of his measuring by eyeball, and as a result, he had to recut several pieces of copper tubing. Because the copper tubing was close to the wall, his small rotating pipe cutting tool was not usable. He brought out a huge sawzall, but that was unusable also. He finally began cutting the pipe with a hacksaw blade affixed to a holder.
I offered him my Dremel tool with a cutting blade and he was finally able to make all of his cuts - getting my dremel so hot, I was unable to hold it when I needed to replace the cutting wheels he broke. Since he made several of the cuts too short, he began to pull the pipe sections together, bending the pipe pieces. I told him that I wasn't going to tolerate such shoddy work, and insisted that he remeasure and recut the too short pieces. He was forced to recut a few of the pieces 3 times because of his refusal to measure anything.
Finally he got the cold water line cold set, and he began to work on the hot water line. Again, he got the bright idea that it would be easier if he connected the hot line to the cold line, and I again had to explain that this would defeat the purpose of having a separate hot and cold turn offs at the faucet and washer. He managed to pull a section of pipe that had been affixed to the wall with screws and began trying to saw it using the washing machine as his sawhorse. I objected! He also used it for all of his tools, without placing any padding down, something I would never have done as a summer house painter back in my college days.
I offered him the use of my vise, on my toolbench only a few feet away. He proceeded to clamp the half inch copper pipe at the end farthest from the side he wanted to cut. I provided him with my full size hacksaw, but he was having trouble cutting with the pipe held so far from the vise, as I expected. I offered advice that it might work better to try clamping the pipe closer to the cutting point, and he eventually began to do this. All of his cuts were rough and he often didn't complete his cuts and bent the copper pipe back and forth to break the last piece of metal holding the sections together, resulting in deformation of the pipe ends. He didn't attempt to clean or file any of the pieces, since he was using a new type of clamping fitting with internal gaskets.
He finally had the faucet entirely cold-set, not to my standards, but since it was now 7 PM and I hadn't eaten since lunch, I didn't complain too much as he began to clamp all of the joints with his clamping machine. While he was doing this, I began to examine his work on the outside faucet. I thought that his supervisor's assertion that enough water would drain from the open faucet with a closed shutoff valve might work if the shutoff valve was installed at a higher elevation. I requested that the tech do this, but since he didn't have the right angle elbows needed, he couldn't. I then requested that he just cap the pipe, and I would just wait for his boss to come back from vacation to complete the job. He couldn't do this, because he didn't have a cap that had the special internal gasket and he didn't know how to sweat a joint, or have the equipment or parts to do so (And this is a licensed plumber???).
I told him that if he was going to connect the expensive ball valve, that if it had to be redone, that I would not pay for an additional valve. He said he had no choice but to install it in order to get water flowing to the house. He finally finished up about 8:30 PM, about as much time as it would have taken me to do it, having minimal plumbing experience.
His initial (oral only) estimate to my wife was about $1366, which he said included parts. He had her sign an estimate form that had no cost estimate on it when she signed it. When she mistakenly signed it on the bottom “work completed” line and realized that that was the wrong line to sign it on at the time, he said it did not matter, because she had not paid yet and “nothing would go wrong, and besides, she had not paid yet.” He would not give the form back to her so that she could sign on the “work authorization” line. Then when the work had been completed, suddenly he presented me with a bill that showed an initial estimate of about $1663, from which he was deducting $400, since I was dissatisfied.
When my wife objected, he said his original estimate didn't include parts, although originally he said it did. My wife had specifically asked him a couple of times prior to his starting to work on the job if parts and labor were included in his original estimate, even repeating this question after I told him that I wanted to be sure he used quality parts. So, with his discount, and 5 hours of my time spent trying to prevent his errors that would prevent us getting water to our house before midnight, providing him with tools the company didn't supply, we were still charged about $1263, only about $100 less than his original estimate, to get shoddy workmanship that will need to be redone.
At least none of the pipes appear to be leaking and the toilet is draining. Thank God for small favors! Now I have to clean up the handprints he left on the wall and washing machine, and try to reposition the support block for the tub faucet, which the handle of the hot water contacts. At least the technician was polite. Unfortunately, he should never claim to be a licensed plumber and should never be allowed to do anything but clean out drains, except under the immediate supervision of a licensed plumber. I will NEVER, EVER hire ROTO ROOTER to do anything THAT REQUIRES PLUMBING EXPERTISE IN THE FUTURE, SINCE THEY HAVE NONE!!! Extremely dissatisfied customers!

When the plumber arrived my wife was home alone. She explained that in an emergency (a very sick cat spraying poop all over the bathroom) she had absent-mindedly flushed a wad of paper towels down the toilet and it was now partially blocked. He disconnected the toilet and ran a snake down the pipe. As soon as it encountered resistance, he withdrew the snake and diagnosed the problem as "tree roots." He called a friend with a pipe camera who arrived, put the camera down the pipe and immediately agreed that the problem was roots. My wife called me at work (at NC State in Raleigh) to update me. I asked her if SHE had seen any roots on the camera. She said no, you really couldn't see anything on the image at all (she had looked over his shoulder).
The two men stepped outside, talked for a long while, and then came back with the diagnosis that we needed an entirely new sewer line installed. The plumber handed my wife an estimate for $7800 for this, along with a bill for $400 for the "services rendered" even though the problem had not been solved. Unfortunately she paid the bill; had I been there, I would have insisted that he at least attempt to remove the blockage. They left with the check in hand. We still had no use of the tub, toilet, or sinks. I began calling other plumbers for a second opinion, but the next day, before anyone else could arrive, the paper towels finally deteriorated enough that the blockage cleared itself. Everything works fine once again.
So basically we paid $400 for an incorrect diagnosis, not a solution. Had we spent $7800 for a new sewer line which we didn't need, it would have been an even bigger ripoff. I really feel like those two men decided to take advantage of a woman, and I am mad as hell about it. I feel like we should at least have half of the money returned (several of the other plumbers I spoke with expressed shock at the fee, saying they normally charged $350-$375 to run a cutting blade through the pipe, which would definitely have removed the blockage, roots or not). I called Roto-Rooter to replace my Bathroom Sink Faucet Cartridge. The cartridge had been ordered and waiting to be installed. When their plumber showed up, he seemed not very enthusiastic to find this was a straightforward job and there was nothing for him to upsell. He then uncomfortably tried to ask unrelated questions about the age and other issues but I kept bringing him back to just replacing the new cartridge without giving him any opportunity to upsell. He finally blurted that he will be charging $205 for this service. That is tops a 30 minute job if he knows what he is doing. At that rate they are quoting a $410/hour rate which is absurdly horrendous to be borne for such a simple task. In all fairness I offered to pay a $100 for the service which he refused. I had to send him packing and will have to resort to learn to do this job myself. In this extortionist world of service people we have to learn to deal with and fix our own problems.

OK our toilet was backed up, normally I would have called the plumber I have used the past six years but I discovered his state license was suspended when he was last here fixing a leak in my water heater circulating pump he had installed 5 years ago. (It's a long story. He dropped the seal and had to make one from a sheet of plumbing rubber, we both forgot to replace it with a factory seal). So not many plumbers in my rural area to choose from and I call ** Rooter. Tech comes out Friday afternoon and I explain the problem. Without even lifting the lid, he offhandedly says "Maybe your toilet is broken." I should have tossed his ** out right then! Next he opens up the outside cleanout and it is overflowing (lots of recent rain has flooded the leach field). In spite of knowing this he snakes the line from house to septic tank ($$$ Ca-Ching).
OK that was a fail but I still needed the pump replaced on the hot water system so I hand him the pump and new seals I had bought and he heads for the basement. 45 minutes later he's back at the door. Seemed like a long time to put a round seal in the pump body and screw in 4 bolts and put a "no solder" coupling in the line! Next up I wanted him to install a kitchen faucet and replace a leaking shutoff valve (I am supplying all the parts mind you). He goes out to shut off the main and comes back with a pair of 10" Channel Lock pliers in his hand and announces the gate valve is broken and will not shut off! Hmmm, now it seems my water flow is 10% so the valve must have closed and he forced it to the point of stripping the threads! He gets his handy dandy T-wrench out of his truck and goes to the street to shut off the water there and discovers 3 valves for 3 homes, does NOT bother to call the water company for help!
OK now I should have capped his ** right then but I tell him to just go away about this point, well after paying the $237.50 bill for basically nothing! Even the pump repair was shoddy. When I looked at it later he didn't even bother to put the insulation back on the pipe & check valve! As typical not one person associated with ** Rooter mentioned their $145/hr fee or $185/hr fee to snake the line!
When I called at 4 PM to complain I got an answering service who said they would have the "on duty" tech John call me right back, right took 2 more calls to get a callback where he told me my home was "old and in disrepair" and there was no way the other tech broke the valve. I called this morning to speak with the franchise owner and was told all they knew was her name was Victoria (no last name available)!!! When I did finally discover her last name and got a callback she told me my home was "Old" and they were not responsible!!!

Called for a drain clean out on 3/2/2016 after my regular plumber had been out twice and was unsuccessful. Plumber insisted on coming inside and inspecting shower and lavatory, even though I asked him to run the snake down the roof vent. After working inside on the shower with the power snake for about an hour and making a huge mess, he finally went up on the roof to try that approach. He spent almost another hour up there without success and reported they would need to run a camera into the line the next day to locate the blockage. The bill was $225.55, but the drain was still blocked. We didn't want to pay until the crew arrived the next day with the camera, found the blockage, and removed it.
Plumber insisted on payment. We asked to speak to the manager and were connected to the dispatcher. She informed us it was company policy to collect for this work first before dispatching the next crew. We finally agreed to pay for the 2 hours work, but did not choose to have Roto-Rooter return to camera and clear the blockage. Disappointed in the mess in the shower and that work was not done to conclusion before demanding payment. Wish I had researched company and found this site before calling this well publicized company, which I found out is a franchise outfit. The one I used in OKC is on Ann Arbor at 681-2992. Be aware.

I sure wish I would have seen this website prior to hiring Roto-Rooter. So many of the bad reviews already written are true in my case as well. I called Roto Rooter on January 3rd for a broken sewer pipe under my main floor toilet. The pipe had broke and you could see the break just by looking down the pipe. Shannon ** (who openly admitted to a long history in sales) came out and charged $300 for the camera evaluation, which took less than 2 minutes. He waived that charge when I agreed to do the work with Roto-Rooter. The charge to fix this foot of pipe using a small trench in my bathroom was $3,177. The work was a poor quality and Roto-Rooter will not release the name of the "tech" who did the work or his credentials.
They are charging above average prices and it is likely the person doing the work isn't a licensed plumber. Not only that, but Michael did try to tell me after digging the trench that "Oh my, this is going to be much more complicated than we thought. Shannon is going to have to re-do the quote." Shannon came out and looked, but did not change the quote. I later learned that the work they did should have been between $500-600 and that charges in the $3,000 range are generally for a main sewer line repair and a much more extensive excavation. I have since found many reviews out there for Roto-Rooter about their dishonest and deceptive sales practices. I will never use them again and I will be spreading the word.

I usually dismiss rating of "F" across the board but I think you will agree this company deserves it. Found phone number and called it to schedule a service call. But, by bad luck and a single mistake in phone dialing ended up with a plumbing company... but not the right one. I thought I had reached the desired plumbing company who was on a network and was giving me a referral to one of their vendors. The stars were not aligned for I had the misfortune of reaching Roto-Rooter who I thought was this company's vendor. Still with me? I did not ask about charges etc. because I clearly saw their price of $99 for a drain cleanout. In my shopping the across the board standard pricing to clear one blockage is under $100.
The two reps were punctual, clean and respectful. Problem: one blocked toilet. Everything else working fine. Ok, now it gets confusing. Estimate for work is $185.00. Hey, what about the $99 rate? I showed the guy the web page of the company I thought they were a vendor for. Ok, wrong company... my fault. Ok I'll pay the $185 since I had taken the day off work just to handle this and it was my mistake... so I'll pay their inflated fee. I need my toilet. They headed for the problem with what looked like a deluxe hand held auger. After ten minutes he retrieved what looked like cloth shreds. Still blocked and could not make any more progress. (I later determined that the cloth was the premoistened towels I used to wipe down the toilet) Tip: don't flush these! They are not paper.
The toilet has to be removed. They go to the van and come back with an estimate of $335. That's not $335 total. That's $335 in addition to the $185 for a total of $520. Yes $520. Remember this is not emergency of after hours service. I say, "No, I won't pay it." Like a used car salesman he comes back with, "Ok I'll knock $100 off." I could have called another company and maybe they could still come out today and maybe they would be cheaper. Ok, I agreed upon a total price of $395. Toilet removed. Blockage removed. Time spent... about an hour. The question I have for you is would you hire a company with predatory practices like this? Yes, I approved the work but this company has obviously told their people to put the boot on the customer's throat because they are desperate. People need to be warned of how this company operates.

My Laundry Pedestal looked brand new before the workers came. Also after they were finished draining my pipe, the machine that used spilled sewage on my white carpet.
They tried cleaning that up and I tried with my home steam cleaner but the stain is still there. Since they charged me $6800 to repair my pipe, you would think the company would be responsible for any other damages they caused except for the damage of tearing up my tile. The price of $6800 is hard for me to justified since the material they used to repair my pipe would not cost them more than a $1000 and it took 3 guys 8 hours this included transport time to complete the job. It took a serviceman only 5 minutes to unclog a drainage pipe and I had a bill for $240. I had a coupon from online for $25, but it still cost me $215 for a 5 minute job. I understand it was on Saturday and he had come out to my house to do the job. I told the serviceman it was unreasonable to charge me $240 for a job which seems minor and not time-consuming at all! I want general consumers to be aware and to call other plumbers and draining service companies in their area before calling Roto-Rooter. Don't be like me who did not know better!

Double sink in kitchen was backing up. I snaked it, didn't work. Called Rotor Rooter and they sent a service rep out. I asked for an estimate before any work would begin. I told him the bathroom sink, tub and toilet were working fine. He followed me to the basement to look at the vents. I told him I snaked those as well, but to no avail.
He told me it would cost $750 to remove the toilet and snake it, but no guarantee that would solve the problem. He went outside and dug around the grass and found the vent at the street. He asked me to flush the toilet and come outside. He then used a flashlight and showed me the vent at the street, he said nothing was coming through and that I was in plumbing trouble. I needed a new sewer line put in for about $3500, he could have the permit by morning and get the work started. There would still be a $750 charge for removing the toilet as it was necessary to snake it after the new sewer pipe was put in.
I told him, "I am a disabled senior citizen on a fixed income, I could never afford to do this now". He had payment plans, he said. I asked him if I had any other options, he showed me a 5-gallon jug of commercial drain cleaner for $60 and told me to try this, call him in the morning if it didn't work and he would have his crew ready to start. I called a friend I used to work with, he sent his friend over, certified plumber, he brought in his 105 snake, cleared the clog and everything is working fine. Cost: $150. So what are they teaching their service reps at Rotor Rooter, how to rip people off? How to take advantage of senior citizens?

I am writing to state my dissatisfaction with the plumbing work we had done at our son's house in Tampa, Florida. I hope the service we received is not indicative of the service Roto-Rooter provides to all its customers. His home developed serious plumbing issues on Tuesday, July 28. We wanted a company with a good reputation that we could depend on to do the job right so we contacted Roto-Rooter. How disappointed we are in the service we received leaving my son without plumbing in his house for 11 days.
On Tuesday, July 28, a Roto-Rooter technician came to try to clear what we thought was a clog. The technician worked very hard for several hours before coming to the conclusion the pipe was orangeberg and had collapsed. On Wednesday, July 29, a representative from Roto-Rooter came to give us a price of $6800 to replace the pipe from the house to the main city line. He told us he would have a crew come out and dig the pipe immediately and that it would be a 2-day job. The crew consisted of one man for the first two days when finally it was obvious that one man could not do this job alone then a second man showed up to assist. What happened to the crew? One man does not make a crew.
The workers worked very hard to dig and dry out the hole but they were fighting an endless battle because of the rain. The pumps they used in the beginning couldn't have drained water from a goldfish bowl. I would have expected a company like Roto-Rooter to have better equipment. We even had to put our own pump in the hole to drain off water. I realize that the extreme weather conditions played a role in the problems that plagued this job but this is what they do and should have been better prepared with the proper equipment in the beginning especially when charging $6800.
Several times both the workers and us asked the supervisor to bring in well point equipment to help with the job but each time he refused saying it was not necessary. After 8 days with very little progress (still NO WORKING PLUMBING) and our frustration reached its peak and the threat to cancel the job, the supervisor agreed to bring in well point equipment and a bigger pump but it would cost an additional $1400. When the equipment was finally brought in, the two workers did not know how to set up or use the equipment so another day of work was lost while the supervisor showed them how to set up the well point equipment.
As our frustration grew, at no time did a supervisor from your company ever communicate directly with us about the progress of this job other than to tell us the job would cost more money. All communication was with the technicians digging the hole. I expected better communication from the people in charge in a company such as theirs.
After 11 days of NO WORKING PLUMBING IN THE HOUSE- no toilets, no showers, no laundry and unable to wash dishes - finally the job was completed on Friday, August 6 at 9:00 in the evening. This was one of the most unpleasant experiences of any company we have dealt with. I hope my complaints do not fall on deaf ears. If this company wants to keep up its reputation, they need to do a lot better than this in the future. It is very likely that any of our neighbors will ever use Roto Rooter as they watched the poor service we received. In addition, it took me 3 days of digging and raking to get the all the dirt in the yard back in the trench they dug leaving my yard with huge hills and ruts.

I called Roto-Rooter to come out and fix my clogged laundry room drain and clogged kitchen drain. The service told me they couldn't give me a quote over the phone. They said they would be out and it will be a free estimate. Well the technicians came out about 1 hour later and quoted me 465.00! Before they had made it out to my house I had been calling around price matching so I told them "No I found someone to the job for 225.00. They agreed to do the job for that fee."
The technicians weren't here for even 10 min and they told me that my pipe was collapsed. I told them I was getting a second opinion and I wasn't paying them anything because they didn't fix my problem. They left and I had the other company come out and the unclogging my drains and my pipes weren't collapsed! It is really sad how Roto-Rooter will take advantage of you. They obviously work on commission! I will never call them again! I have found my plumbing company! Advocate plumbing company! Very fair priced and they don't take advantage of you!

Roto-Rooter won't quote you a price or estimate over the phone. When they get out to your house they will give you a price that is about double what other companies will charge you. The technician came and charged me $245 to reset the water heater which literally took 15 minutes of which 10 minutes he spent sitting down writing. I didn't mind paying $245 cause it was. What annoyed was him quoting me $1880 to replace the electric water heater as it needed a new element which he didn't recommend because the tank was old. I later spoke with a plumber my sister used to get her heater fixed. He quoted me $600. I will never use this company again!!! I suggest no one does.

We recently had Roto-Rooter perform service on our shower. We had purchased a new Moen shower set and they explained since our old set was extremely outdated we would need to open the wall so the new set could be installed. We agreed to this since we were told we probably could not get replacement parts for the existing set. He called another tech who arrived and did most of the work. They put the new diverter in and soldered pipes in place. Then they moved into the bathroom to install the stems and knobs.
Needless to say they could not install the parts and we were told that the stems were defective and we would need to see if we could buy brass stems, not the plastic ones provided in the set. When they left 5.5 hours later we were $650.00 in the hole and did not have a working shower! The next day we had a local plumber check it out and he stated that it may be possible that the stems were melted when they were put in, they didn't wait long enough for the solder to cool before placing in the plastic stems. The work they performed is supposed to be 100% guaranteed, hoping we can receive at least a 50% refund for this terrible job. I doubt it.

Cleaning out drains is not rocket science. Anyone can do it with the correct equipment. I came home to find an unpleasant flood in the basement. Called the first number which happened to be Roto-Rooter. While I thought they would be pricey, I didn't think it would be highway robbery. For literally ten minutes of actual work, I paid 453.00!!! Called for a leaky valve. Two men show up and say it needs replaced. Due to location of valve, they would have to do some slight pipe work. My husband and I discuss it, $600 estimated. Was told $208/hour for labor then offered a discount. Not sure why. Parts would be $166. We decide to do it as our carpets were wet and we were worried about the water causing even more damage. The men left to go get the parts. 45 minutes later they return. The work was done in under an hour. So we were expecting the estimate to have been over. Nope, one of the men insists they have been working since 6:15 pm. My home surveillance shows them not even arriving until after 6:20 pm. They were gone by 9:15 pm.
We were charged for 3 hours of "labor". This three hours includes the arrival of the plumbers, them putting their shoe covers on, coming in and identifying themselves, following the homeowner to the problem, assessing the situation and determining the necessary repairs and approach, estimating the total cost, presenting my husband with the estimate and explaining his determined approach, waiting for my husband and I to discuss our situation and the next step we will take, explaining to us that he has to go get parts, traveling to obtain and return with parts, do labor, find us, explain what was done, process our credit card (which he explained takes 15 minutes), and then load up and sit in truck in driveway for additional 7 minutes before leaving.
I can understand charging me labor costs from the minute they had our approval and signature on the estimate to the moment the work was complete. Homeowners understood and job was considered finalized and he had our credit card in hand. That includes paying for them to drive to wherever because they don't keep valves in their big box work truck. But to advertise free estimates, then turn around and charge $208/hr (minus some discretionary discount) for them is deceptive and fraudulent. I called this morning as sleeping on it helped very little. Was offered a $100 coupon. Was hoping to see 1 hour of the labor time shaved off. As the day has wore on, I'm just angry about the entire situation. My husband and I feel lied to and taken advantage of.

I am writing a complaint of services done at my home. My plumbing was stopped up on one side of my house. A simple job of digging down and opening the pipe and sending a Roto-Rooter down the line to pull out the paper towels that were in it. Other plumbers have told me it would take about 2 hours and cost around 6 to 1200.00 dollars. We paid you 2100.00 for very poor service. And the worst is you broke my electrical line to my sprinkler system. All of the people from your company I talked to seemed to almost enjoy that they could say tough luck on that. You signed our pile of paperwork. It would have taken about another hour to patch that plastic pipe and electric wire and put it back together.
This was the worst service I have ever had in anything I have ever had done. I can't even tell you how many people I have talked to about your work. I have made a point to talk to everyone in my neighborhood. We are a pretty tight bunch, not to mention everyone I work with in the state. I might not be able to hurt your business much but because of the bad job you did I am going to do my best to make you lose business. I have also called the Oklahoma Better Business Bureau. I was overcharged and you broke my sprinkler system. I will never forget how bad Roto-Rooter is. I have read much online about how bad you are too. I am glad I found that. We will keep spreading the news around.

When we called to complain about the price, the "manager" told us that that was the going rate and that the serviceman left a container of drain cleaner for us that cost $50... not sure why as the drains were all clear and had not been the problem in the first place??? The complete ineptitude and basic incompetence of your staff, except for your very skilled technicians is a remarkable example that should be used as an example of how NOT to do business. Simply Disgraceful!
HISTORY. I own a few rental properties in Astoria, New York. One of the units had a bathroom sink with a slow drain. On 8/19/15 around 1pm I completed an on-line schedule for service for the following day Thursday 8/20/15. I did not receive an email confirmation until later, so just to be sure I call the (718) 263-2360 number. The representative confirmed that my appointment was scheduled for 9am to 11am the next day - on Thursday.
I arrived at the tenant apartment on Thursday at 9am sharp. At about 10:30am I received a call from Roto-Rooter stating that they were running late. Ok, I said. At around 11:30am I realized that no estimated time was given on the last call, so I called the (718) number to get an idea of the timing. The representative told me 1pm. I informed the representative of my situation ie: a landlord waiting in a tenant apartment and that I did not want 1pm to turn into 3pm etc. In any case, upon hearing nothing at 1pm, I called the (718) number again. I spoke with the same representative that told me 1pm and now he claimed he never said 1pm and that now it was 2pm. I was not happy, so I asked to speak to a supervisor or somebody in charge.
I was eventually forwarded to SAM **. Sam was pleasant and ran down the usual "I understand your frustration" script. He said he would call me back with a definite arrival time and when he called back, it was now 3pm, but he assured me that it was for sure. I informed SAM that I did not trust his confidence and predicted a no show at 3pm. I received a call at about 1:30pm from a representative saying that the plumber would arrive within 30-45 minutes. I was encouraged. When nobody arrived by 3pm, I was extremely upset and I admit irate when I called back SAM. He ran down the "I understand your frustration" script again but added that I was being unreasonable. He also stated; "How could I know that they would get caught in traffic."
SAM sounded like he was from New York, but after hearing him say that he could not have known there would be traffic on a business weekday at 3pm, I thought maybe he was somewhere on a corn farm in Indiana reading the Roto Rooter customer service script book. I asked SAM; "Do you have GPS on the drivers, can you tell me where they are?" SAM's reply, "Yes we have GPS," but he was completely clueless and finally hung up on me. I was admittedly very upset and I let him know that before he hung up on me. I called back the (718) number numerous times getting hung up on numerous times.
Finally a representative finally told me that the technicians were there and that they were looking for parking. I informed her, that that was not possible, because I had parking ready for them at the house, but that they were not here. She informed me simply that that is what the technician told her and that she had no other information - goodbye. At 3:40pm the Roto Rooter truck arrives. I am visibly upset, but the technicians Kelvin ** and partner is very professional. He gives me a quote of $458 and I simply say; "Does that mean you will not leave until you fix it?" Kelvin says; "Yes." I agreed to the price - even though it seemed hugely inflated. Kelvin in particular, but his partner as well, is an amazing determined professional and cleared the drain within ONE hour (Yes that's $458 for one hour of work). They are out and on their way at about 4:40pm. I was happy with the end result, but "very" upset with the process.
To summarize, the scheduling, dispatching and SAM were completely destructive in every way possible. They did nothing but give helpless lies, false information and the scripted "I understand your frustration." I lost 6-3/4 as a hostage - not knowing if or when help was to arrive. The technicians saved the day, but my guess is that they are the lowest paid of the whole bunch. NOT ONE person that I spoke to had any clue about the basic business concept of "Under Promise and Over Deliver". NOT ONE person that I spoke to had any respect for my time. NOT ONE person had the business smarts to call up after and apologize. This is a clueless company, with a great brand name who has somehow lost its way.

We had our basement filling up with water so bad it blew our water heater. We called Roto-Rooter after buying a sub pump and a new water heater. They canceled on us the first day then came out and snaked the drain - they couldn't get it undone. They found some adult wipes in the drain and said they would bring out a jet system to push that through. The guy refused to go in the basement but still charged us 350 for the snaking service then said it would take another 400 to bring out the jet system and guaranteed it would work. We were so tired of dealing with the flooded basement we said yes. They ran it through but only out to the road from the middle of the yard when we kept telling him it had to be close to the house because if you poured water in there it flowed.
After paying 700 with only a 50 dollar discount for not fixing the problem we continued to use the sub pump when Roto-Rooter told us it was the city's job due to the clog was on their end and if that was not the case it would be 1500 Dollars to excavate. We called the city. They cleaned all the alleyway's pipes all the way through but our basement was still flooded. We were hopeless till a friend from work said they knew someone who might help. I called him. He came out with an electric snake same as Roto-Rooter used. I was frustrated immediately thinking this will not work. He ran it to the house. First the water shot through the drain so fast my entire basement spiraled around the drain it worked!!!!! All we saw was a small glimpse of a clog as it shot through.
We called them and requested a refund for the services. No matter what day or time we call the manager is never in and never has called us back until we finally threatened to call the Better Business Bureau on them. Then only did they e-mail us when they knew we wanted a call because we had no internet or computer and still almost 7 months later no water in the basement and no refund. We noticed a wet spot on the ceiling yesterday and realized there must be a leak from the shower above. Called Roto-Rooter, thinking they are a reputable company. WRONG! They show an address in my small town, but I've lived here for 11 years and never seen them. Called, and it was obvious I was talking to a call center, not a local shop.
But the real problem is the absolutely outrageous pricing!! The guy that showed up told me their rates are $280 or $290/hr. I told him that was way too high. He said he could still take a look and price a free quote, so I let him look. Obviously, drywall needed to be cut into to access the leak. The plumber told me he could cut the hole for $150. I turned him down and went to the garage to get my own saw. Unfortunately it was packed away in storage. Then the plumber offered to let me use his saw. I accepted and cut a 16" x 16" hole in under 2 minutes. That was $150 ridiculous dollars saved.
The problem was obvious -- a slow leak at the shower drain. The repair required a new shower drain, new p trap, and less than 1 foot of 2" ABS pipe. The plumber wrote up a quote to do the work. The quote...$850!!! I rejected the quote and sent him on his way. These guys are obviously intentionally taking advantage of people in a jam. This wasn't even an emergency call. I ended up making the repair myself. $40 in materials at Lowe's, and 1.5 hrs labor. No leaks. Looks just like it did before.
The good: They picked up the phone when I called. The plumber was on time and friendly. The bad: Abusive, criminal pricing structure. Technically, I'm sure they're barely within the limits of the law. But there's no doubt that they are intentionally taking advantage of anyone they can. I would love to hear an honest justification for charging $850 for a job that a first time amateur can easily complete correctly, for $40, in a couple of leisurely hours. Absolute nonsense.

When the 2 workers came I was told $419.00! I told them that was ridiculous and "no, thank you". He then asked me how much I wanted to pay. I told him that I didn't call my plumber because he was on vacation and that he would probably charge me $150.00. He said his boss would not go down that much. He asked his boss and he went down to $250.00. "No, thank you." I called a friend who recommended her plumber - his fee $125.00!

I called Roto Rooter with a clogged kitchen sink. The nice guy who came did the job, was finished in 20 minutes. Bill $400!!! I had coupon for 10% off, so when I told him that his price was way too high, I'd had this done before for about $100, he made a big deal about having already given me a 10% discount. Though I had a coupon, he acted as if he was doing me a big favor for the discount. I will never use Roto Rooter again. When I called in to complain, the guy didn't seem to care when I told him I would post complaints on the internet and never use them again.

They said I would be contacted within a half an hour.... It's been 1.5 days. Understand that there are options and if you have an insurance claim CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY!! They will put you in touch with other companies that do the same type of work much less. I find the invoice very confusing and the fact that this was $3800 is just crazy. The crew was there for about 4 hours and left what seemed to be way too much equipment for a small area. The insurance adjuster said that they normally go with a different company and using their prices came up with $1800. He came up with this pricing with the equipment that was left in measuring the affected area. He also made a comment about there being 6 fans in an area that was around 600 sq ft.
This is not my area of expertise and I was not aware that service your company provided was something that I could shop around. At the end of the day I realize that my inexperience in this area cost me way more than it should have. Along with this I have learned that this branch of Roto-Rooter was developed to swoop in and take advantage of customers in bad situations, hitting them with bills that are 2 to 3 times their competitors prices. It's bad enough to be in the situation I was in and even worse that the first phone call I made was to your company. You have been nothing but extremely cooperative and friendly which was the same with every employee that I was in contact with from your company. This in no way reflects my satisfaction of the services that were rendered or how I was treated.
I left a positive feedback on the form I was given then I checked "would not do business with in the future" due to the costs. This was also due to the estimate I received to replace the drain pipe ($4200) when I had 2 other estimates that were $900 and $600. I would expect a big name like Roto-Rooter to charge more but not to the extent that they do. I want to thank you for your kindness and cooperation, and please let the people that worked for you I also appreciated them. I do not appreciate Roto-Rooter for their clear intention of price gouging customers that clearly are in need of help.

I scheduled to have them come out on Wednesday between 8-12. They were to call 45 mins before arrival. At 11:30 they called and said they would not be out that day at all and would have to reschedule. I had taken the day off to meet them. I rescheduled for the next day, again for between 8-12 but was told I was now a priority so they would likely be out to my house closer to 8. Again, I waited. At 10:30, when nobody showed, I called the dispatch. They told me they had another job to go to and would not be out to me for a while, how long exactly they couldn't say.
I mentioned that they had pulled a no-show the day before, and that they had made me a priority for that day, but the dispatcher said they couldn't control what happened out in the field. We rescheduled for the next day as I had to return to work and couldn't wait around indefinitely. Again, I was promised they would arrive between 8-12, and that this time I was for sure their first priority. As of 11:45 today, they are still a no-show. I WILL NEVER CALL THIS OUTFIT AGAIN.

On June 1, 2015 I called Roto-Rooter to unclog my line as I had sewer backing up in my Shower and drains. ** came right out within an hour and tried to snake the pipe. The clog couldn't be cleared. They had to dig a hole next to the driveway to reach the sewer line to send a high pressure line to flush out the clog and to send a camera down to evaluate the problem. To my shock the problem was my old terra-cotta sewer pipe had collapsed in two separate places and the complete line had to be replaced.
After getting over the shock and the cost ** started the job and was very professional with update on every step of the work, his hours were long and back breaking and always reassuring me that everything will be placed back as they found it before the work. I couldn't have asked for a better contractor. The job was finally completed and ** cleaned everything and promised to bring back some grass seed to place on the dirt that was bare. This was very costly for us but **'s friendliness made this bad situation much more bearable.

This has been going on since 10:00am after I finally called to inquire about my anticipated service (they called at 11:30pm last night to let me know they would not arrive until 8:00 this morning). Their website advertises that they operate "24/7," but fails to indicate that availability is not 24 hours in a row! They clearly do not work throughout the night in South Florida. I am in Mesa Az, and I called the local Roto Rooter in Orange Park Florida. The problem was at my sister's house near Orange Park Fla. The kid who cuts the grass bumped or ran into the spigot on the outside of the house and broke it so water was leaking out a lot, I was told over the phone. The grass kid went to the main valve and turned all the water off going into the house. Then I called Roto Rooter and had them make a service call to fix the issue. So I call my mom who also lives with my sister and she tells me yeah the plumber was out and fixed it. Then she told me it was $53 Dollars for the Parts and $244 dollars for labor. The plumber Capped Off the pipe so it was no longer a spigot.
My mom was told by the tech he saved her $150 dollars by doing it that way. I have been in the parts business for over 25 years and sold brass fittings and caps at times over the years and the Most Expensive I ever remember was under 10 Dollars. So I don't mind anyone making a living or a by hour charge but $244 is a bit much when he was there less than an hour. But he saved her money by not replacing the bad part with same part that was there. (Sarcasm Here). I sure hope that a Manager from this location calls me as they do have my number and if they don't they can reach me thru here. I know that I can have my sister call the Credit Card Company and Dispute the charge but I am not looking for it Free Just FAIR.

I am very upset with this company and will never, ever use them again. I called them because of the brand recognition, but what I likely called was a franchised company that charges way, way, way too much in my opinion. After I had to haggle the 3-hours late site tech down from $450 to just reconnect my sink and toilet (read: no parts, just about an hour of labor) it cost me $250 which was apparently him cutting me a "deal." Ridiculous and extremely offensive. Adding insult to injury, they purportedly provide no service warranty -- for places that charge those kinds of prices, I expect a lifetime warranty. Just absurd.
I should have known something was up, when they refuse to discuss pricing up front over the phone, and need an on-site "evaluation" before telling you what they're going to charge you for the work, and if you (or your wife) is impatient and you haven't taken other estimates, it's probably too late for you to back out, which of course they know. Given the plethora of negative reviews, I think this warning from ConsumerAffairs sums it up quite well: "Roto-Rooter does NOT participate in the ConsumerAffairs authorized partner program." Gee I wonder why?

I called Roto-Rooter out because I had sewage backing up into my bathtub. The estimator came out and after explaining that I had not had my tank cleaned out in the 14 years that I lived here, and after he inspected my full clean out point in my main sewer line, stated he was calling a pump truck out to clean out my tank. This estimate stated it would be close to $500; $80/hr finder fee, $.15/gallon that was pumped and so on. Well the pump truck driver could not find my tank upon arrival so he called out **, whom was stated to be the go-to plumber for all the hard jobs, ran his snake down my sewer line 3 times and he pointed to the end of the snake and said that it is shiny silver so it has to be a broken pipe.
Then ** came back with a proposal fee (nothing itemized), that stated that that I needed to have a section of pipe replaced because it was broken and my price of $3,841.36 would take care of everything including all city/county permits. They came out here and dug a big hole, found the pipe (which was unbroken) and then the excavating crew broke open the pipe that was full of toilet paper. 3 weeks later I STILL had standing water in my bathtub because ** said that every time we use the restroom to flush 3-4 times because there was still standing water in our main sewer line 'after' the $3,840 'fix' and that our pipes were old and bellowed (whatever that means) and I still needed to have my holding tank cleaned (what I called them for in the first place).
Well after getting livid to the point of no return, I called out CT Brown Sanitation (love these people!) and they came out, opened the lid to my septic tank, cleaned it out (had a root blocking the end of the main pipe that they removed) and all the water in my backed up pipes disappeared. I called Roto-Rooter 'again' to let them know how their plumbing professional shouldn't be their go-to person and I needed compensation for the unnecessary work that was performed and the best that ** could do for me was $367 that CT Brown Sanitation charged to clean out my tank. I am livid beyond belief and this company was already on our local turn to 2 news channel for unnecessarily charging an 85-year-old out of a plumbing job that cost a fraction of the price. I am planning on going to them also!

When I said "no", he brought the price down to $200. When I said "OK" because I had a coupon, he said "no coupon" because he already took $200 off the price. I said "no" again. I said "I would call another company." In the meantime, my drain cleared itself out, so I didn't need the service. He then proceeded to sell me an enzyme drain treatment which I bought. These people start off trying to sound professional. The lady on the phone was nice. I then got a call from someone giving me the plumber's name and advised how long before the plumber would be arriving. When this plumber arrived (I ended up with 3 different ones as the story goes). They wore shoe cover booties when walking in the house. Okay, good impression so far. Although all of this was a good start, I would prefer they'd act like jerks and actually do the job right! I don't know where Roto-Rooter find their plumbers, but they don't know what the hell they're doing!!!
One guy showed up and rotted the sink and didn't fix the leaking sink (bathroom), which was the reason they were called out. He couldn't figure it out. A week later another idiot showed up. He was nice and he tried, but it was obvious he didn't know what to do. He ALSO tried to come up with big terms to sound like he knew what he was talking about. The leaky faucet wasn't fixed. Someone else was supposed to come out. Okay so NOW... one night, out of nowhere water started to leak out of the hoses underneath the bathroom sink. I was lucky to hear it and was able to get a bucket to prevent water damage. Okay, so now there's a 3rd guy. I SWEAR THIS GUY SHOWED UP DRUGGED UP!!! He was not in his normal senses. He was shaky and he kept sniffling. He was sooo off. I told my husband and he agreed.
So I told this idiot plumber that it seemed the hoses were mangled by the previous plumber and that could be the reason why water was leaking from there (and my faucet was also STILL leaking). So now I have two problems here. These hoses were not plastic but the metal-like mesh hoses and they were working perfectly fine for years, up until the previous plumber showed up. I told this plumber, who appeared to be a drug addict, that the problem might be the hoses. He said I needed a whole new faucet. He said the hoses had nothing to do with the water leaking them! He left and was going to return. I went to buy a new faucet and while at the store, my husband suggested we get new hoses in case we were right since the others looked mangled.
So days later, this same plumber was supposed to be there. I called him and he sound like he had just woken up - this was a 11:00 a.m. appointment. He didn't know who I was or where I lived, or what I needed done. He ended up coming over. This time he appeared to look tired, yet "normal". I showed him the hoses and he said he would try to see if that would fix the problem and it worked!!! Thanks to us, otherwise we would have more idiots showing up trying to fix that too. Easy fix! Thanks for nothing plumbers!!! He ended up changing the sink faucet. All along, all I had to buy was a washer, but they couldn't figure that out. So it was easier for them to have me go out and a whole new faucet.
When I was at the store, I had decided to purchase a tub faucet (the bottom piece where the water pours out of). I asked if he could just tell me how I can unscrew it. He said it was just a matter of turning it as if unscrewing. He ended up breaking off a piece. I thought OMG... now what??? He couldn't think of anything to say. I told him he had to fix it. He looked around the plumbing and said he would have to knock down my whole bedroom wall to fix it!!!! He was trying to get me to "fix it" for $400. Other people posted reviews also saying they tried to make them feel as if they're giving us a huge deal while they're breaking ** and charging you to fix it!!!
I had ONE plumber from a different company stop by and it was an easy fix. There was one little part I had to purchase. I read a review where a guy said he used to work for Roto-Rooter, he said there were a bunch of drug addicts working there. I read that after my experience and I believe that's true!!! I wish I would have read all this feedback first because at first they fool you with good communication, but in the end, they don't know what the hell they're doing!! If all of these warnings form all these people are not convincing, and you decide to give them a chance, record your conversations and record their work so that you can use that against them after they screw you over up your house!! If you ever want a plumbing service by a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're doing, like to waste your time and steal your money... call Roto-Rooter!!

I was told on the phone by their rep service call price just for coming to the home was $40. When I asked if that would be part of the price if I had the work done he said it was up to the technician to make that decision. Just didn't sound right but when their technician arrived before he did anything I asked him about the $40 service fee he said he would waive it if I had work done. So he looked at my water heater which I knew at that time needed a $15 part. Unfortunately I didn't have the tools to do the work myself plus I'm partially disabled and couldn't lay on the ground to fix it. After all this he quoted me a price of over $300 - keep in mind part is 15 and about 20 minutes of his time.
I told him that was way too much so he told me he could give me a senior discount which would bring it down $10. What a joke. I told him "I got a price earlier of $200" so immediately he said he could fix it for approximately 200 dollars. This was over a $100 swing in price I don't get. These guys are more like salesmen who work on commission. He did fix the problem so far gave me a 90-day warranty but also said before I get paid I needed to find a coupon to get the $200 price - this was after he already started the work. Luckily I found a $50 coupon on the Internet but he told me he would then have to charge me two hundred and forty eight dollars. By then he had almost completed the work.
This was my first experience and last with Roto-Rooter. I felt and I was scammed. I'm still thinking I'm stopping the payment. Oh yeah when he took the payment he just wrote it down, a piece my credit card number, on a piece of paper - not very freaking secure. Whole company is a joke. Came to pump septic. I knew approximate location since I just had well drilled. The employee that came did not believe me so health department was contacted - after wasting time prodding around and digging in wrong area. They told me and them that it was 22 feet from north end of house. He started prodding around in that area. I questioned him and said that 22 feet is a specific length and suggested using a tape measure. He told me he could pace it off. He also told me he searched out to 22 feet and also 30 feet - all without specific measurements. I told him something needed to happen soon because I was not going to feed the company more and more money. He then said that next steps would be bring a "locator" out. Apparently this was not anticipated, therefore was not prepared.
Suspecting unsavory business practices, I ended our business relationship then and there. I was charged $120. My suspicions remain: why were they not prepared with equipment to complete the job? Why not begin prodding in the location that the homeowner indicated? Why, when setting up the appointment, did the employee not question further about location? ** in Kalamazoo seemed very knowledgeable and I certainly asked him much about the process not knowing anything about it myself. I feel quite sure he could have prepared the worker for the job. I feel it was a set up to get my cost, their profit, up. In the meantime, I have hired another company to do the job.

The manager of the company's local office contacted me promptly after the review was posted. He was professional and communicated clearly how the pricing worked, and agreed to address the issue that I had most concerned about. We worked together and resolved the issue.

First, the customer service did not provide any pricing information to me, instead informed me that there will be coupon for any service when the work is done (honestly, I did not care much). Second, the service came 6 hours after agreed -upon time frame, and for a 30-minute job pipe cleaning job, we got billed over $400 and the coupon thing was conveniently never mentioned (unfortunately). Third, when I filed a complaint, the woman who was supposed to discuss the pricing was extremely rude and cold, flatly told me that it was my problem. I have never had such a horrible experience dealing with any service people in my life! This will be the last time I ever see a "Roto-Rooter"!!

My 83 yr old mother needed a new kitchen faucet, the total bill was $513.00 and we didn't have the cash on her, she has no credit cards. We asked them to wait till she gets her social security money on the 3rd of the month and it was just such a hassle. They charged her $365.00 in labor that is ridiculous. Roto-rooter needs to work with their customer’s, especially the elderly. Shame on them. My mom pays all her bills but cannot pay $513 dollars all at once. Outrageous!

Scheduled original appointment on Sat. for Sunday between 8-10. Received call from Roto-Rooter and re-schedule between 10 and no later than 12:00. At 11:30 received an additional call from Roto- rooter at 11:30 to re-schedule to 3:00 P.M. With my frustration I called to cancel and was told someone can be there at 12:00. Nice way to do business. Thanks, but no thanks.

Backed up floor drain. Plumber sent said main trap was compromised (broken) and couldn't get thru to clear. Solution - tear up floor and replace trap. Cost - $4000. Paid $150 bill. Another company came and snaked so-called compromised trap and cleared clog with no problem. Spoke to manager to discuss unknowledgeable plumber that was sent. After some discussion, I said I considered filing a complaint and he told me "Oooo, I'm scared, you're an idiot," and hung up on me. RIPOFF artists and just a RUDE company to deal with.

Called Clark Summit PA office to clear a waterway. I was told they were busy, couldn't make it today but will be there tomorrow between 10:30 and 1:30. Took the day off a day of work and at 2:00 still a no show. I called, I was told there are no guarantees. My Wife called and was told we would get a call back in 10 minutes. 4 hours later, 5:30ish, a worker called to say he did not have the proper equipment and his boss said he would deal with it tomorrow. I'll have to see what that means tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath, calling someone else in the morning. DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION FOR SERVICE!

I had a leak in my front yard from the underground pipes. They came out and told me they would charge $125 an hour plus parts. They were at the house just under two hours having to leave to get parts. Job was finished and a bill totaling $500.00 was presented to me with no breakdown of what I was charged for. I asked for it but was not given any breakdown, just the foreman telling me that he could've charged me $750.00 and was giving me a break. These folks are petty thieves and a disgrace to the plumbing profession. I am a poor man with health problems and $500.00 dollars with no explanation or breakdown of costs is not right.

Called at 12:00 noon to schedule an appointment to check garbage disposal and water heater. Was told a technician will be there within 4 hours. At 7:00 pm I got a call that technician cannot make it there due to another job. By that time it was too late to call another company. Was told the technician will be there first thing in the morning. Technician did not get there until after 1:00 pm. The technician did not bother to check garbage disposal before calling to say it needs to be replaced. He didn't even attempt to get it working by pushing the reset button to see if it will work.
Got a quote of $400 to replace the disposal - that is a job I can do in 20 minutes. He also quoted $2400 to replace a 50 gal. water heater. Of course, I said NO WAY!!! When I told him that I will have a different company do the work for less, he threaten to file a complaint about the electrical wiring with the city of Austin. REALLY??? What a jerk. Did he really think that he could scare me??? That is some nerve!!!! Never calling this company again.
