My grandmother has been having trouble with her pipeline recently. Our normal plumber couldn't do the work that was required to fix it. Roto-Rooter came out to evaluate and give us an estimate. They said that our pipeline was thinning and getting worse over time; needed a complete replacement - didn't even show us anything to validate this and said we didn't have other options because it would just get worse. They quoted us for nearly 10,000 (and this was after their "senior citizen" discount).

We decided to get a second opinion through AJ Perri. They came in and shows us the camera footage of our pipeline - it's completely Wide and Clear - and this was 2 days after Roto-Rooter came. They also said we don't need a replacement. We just need to repair the 1 area where branches and leaves are getting in, then they cement around it after the fix to avoid future issues, and comes with a 10-year warranty. Roto-Rooter is a scam artist company and very greedy. They wanted to bigger job for more pay.

My experience began with a call to Roto-Rooter requesting multiple plumbing projects (5 total) within my residence. Rudy the Roto-Rooter plumber was sent to my residence. He assessed the 5 areas and prepared an estimate which was close to $1500. I decided to eliminate one of the projects, reducing the assignment to 4. He said I needed to sign a contract to initiate the process, which included a waiver stating that if his equipment became lodged or broken inside my pipes, that I would pay Roto-Rooter for damages. I refused to sign. He (Rudy) stood up from the table where we sat and said quite angrily, "I have been here for an hour with you, and now you decide you don't want the work! My Job is now in jeopardy. My boss will think I've been dealing deals on the side! If you ever want Roto-Rooter to come here again, the CHANCES are VERY SLIM that THEY WILL SEND ANYONE for YOU!"

Rudy snatched up the paperwork, and stormed out the door, saying, "I'm going to MAKE SURE my BOSS KNOWS all about this!!!" I immediately called Roto-Rooter and filed a complaint regarding his style of "customer service". Shortly thereafter a supervisor called and apologized for his poor behavior. The supervisor said that I had every right to not sign, if I didn't want to sign... and also stated that if I ever changed my mind, Roto-Rooter would be happy to come out and service my home. Of course, I will never call them again, but I do appreciate the supervisor's business etiquette and kind hearted customer service.

Roto-Rooter came out to my apartment in Boston and said it would cost $450 to snake my bathroom sink drain and approximately $550 to replace the flange on my toilet. It could be more once he removed the toilet if there were other issues. I thought this price was outrageous and said "No thank you." He left and I called an independent plumber who came within 4 hours. He spend less than an hour in the bathroom and fixed the clogged drain and the loose toilet. He charged $162 for parts and labor. Roto-Rooter is such a scam.

When the plumber arrived my wife was home alone. She explained that in an emergency (a very sick cat spraying poop all over the bathroom) she had absent-mindedly flushed a wad of paper towels down the toilet and it was now partially blocked. He disconnected the toilet and ran a snake down the pipe. As soon as it encountered resistance, he withdrew the snake and diagnosed the problem as "tree roots." He called a friend with a pipe camera who arrived, put the camera down the pipe and immediately agreed that the problem was roots. My wife called me at work (at NC State in Raleigh) to update me. I asked her if SHE had seen any roots on the camera. She said no, you really couldn't see anything on the image at all (she had looked over his shoulder).

The two men stepped outside, talked for a long while, and then came back with the diagnosis that we needed an entirely new sewer line installed. The plumber handed my wife an estimate for $7800 for this, along with a bill for $400 for the "services rendered" even though the problem had not been solved. Unfortunately she paid the bill; had I been there, I would have insisted that he at least attempt to remove the blockage. They left with the check in hand. We still had no use of the tub, toilet, or sinks. I began calling other plumbers for a second opinion, but the next day, before anyone else could arrive, the paper towels finally deteriorated enough that the blockage cleared itself. Everything works fine once again.

So basically we paid $400 for an incorrect diagnosis, not a solution. Had we spent $7800 for a new sewer line which we didn't need, it would have been an even bigger ripoff. I really feel like those two men decided to take advantage of a woman, and I am mad as hell about it. I feel like we should at least have half of the money returned (several of the other plumbers I spoke with expressed shock at the fee, saying they normally charged $350-$375 to run a cutting blade through the pipe, which would definitely have removed the blockage, roots or not). If it isn't, I will never use Roto-Rooter again, and will continue to tell everyone I know, online and in person, what a lousy deal we got.

I called again at 6:30 and was told another hour before someone would be able to service my problem. I called Roto-Rooter to replace my Bathroom Sink Faucet Cartridge. The cartridge had been ordered and waiting to be installed. When their plumber showed up, he seemed not very enthusiastic to find this was a straightforward job and there was nothing for him to upsell. He then uncomfortably tried to ask unrelated questions about the age and other issues but I kept bringing him back to just replacing the new cartridge without giving him any opportunity to upsell. He finally blurted that he will be charging $205 for this service. That is tops a 30 minute job if he knows what he is doing. At that rate they are quoting a $410/hour rate which is absurdly horrendous to be borne for such a simple task. In all fairness I offered to pay a $100 for the service which he refused. I had to send him packing and will have to resort to learn to do this job myself. In this extortionist world of service people we have to learn to deal with and fix our own problems.

OK our toilet was backed up, normally I would have called the plumber I have used the past six years but I discovered his state license was suspended when he was last here fixing a leak in my water heater circulating pump he had installed 5 years ago. (It's a long story. He dropped the seal and had to make one from a sheet of plumbing rubber, we both forgot to replace it with a factory seal). So not many plumbers in my rural area to choose from and I call ** Rooter. Tech comes out Friday afternoon and I explain the problem. Without even lifting the lid, he offhandedly says "Maybe your toilet is broken." I should have tossed his ** out right then! Next he opens up the outside cleanout and it is overflowing (lots of recent rain has flooded the leach field). In spite of knowing this he snakes the line from house to septic tank ($$$ Ca-Ching).

OK that was a fail but I still needed the pump replaced on the hot water system so I hand him the pump and new seals I had bought and he heads for the basement. 45 minutes later he's back at the door. Seemed like a long time to put a round seal in the pump body and screw in 4 bolts and put a "no solder" coupling in the line! Next up I wanted him to install a kitchen faucet and replace a leaking shutoff valve (I am supplying all the parts mind you). He goes out to shut off the main and comes back with a pair of 10" Channel Lock pliers in his hand and announces the gate valve is broken and will not shut off! Hmmm, now it seems my water flow is 10% so the valve must have closed and he forced it to the point of stripping the threads! He gets his handy dandy T-wrench out of his truck and goes to the street to shut off the water there and discovers 3 valves for 3 homes, does NOT bother to call the water company for help!

OK now I should have capped his ** right then but I tell him to just go away about this point, well after paying the $237.50 bill for basically nothing! Even the pump repair was shoddy. When I looked at it later he didn't even bother to put the insulation back on the pipe & check valve! As typical not one person associated with ** Rooter mentioned their $145/hr fee or $185/hr fee to snake the line!

When I called at 4 PM to complain I got an answering service who said they would have the "on duty" tech John call me right back, right took 2 more calls to get a callback where he told me my home was "old and in disrepair" and there was no way the other tech broke the valve. I called this morning to speak with the franchise owner and was told all they knew was her name was Victoria (no last name available)!!! When I did finally discover her last name and got a callback she told me my home was "Old" and they were not responsible!!!

Called for a drain clean out on 3/2/2016 after my regular plumber had been out twice and was unsuccessful. Plumber insisted on coming inside and inspecting shower and lavatory, even though I asked him to run the snake down the roof vent. After working inside on the shower with the power snake for about an hour and making a huge mess, he finally went up on the roof to try that approach. He spent almost another hour up there without success and reported they would need to run a camera into the line the next day to locate the blockage. The bill was $225.55, but the drain was still blocked. We didn't want to pay until the crew arrived the next day with the camera, found the blockage, and removed it.

Plumber insisted on payment. We asked to speak to the manager and were connected to the dispatcher. She informed us it was company policy to collect for this work first before dispatching the next crew. We finally agreed to pay for the 2 hours work, but did not choose to have Roto-Rooter return to camera and clear the blockage. Disappointed in the mess in the shower and that work was not done to conclusion before demanding payment. Wish I had researched company and found this site before calling this well publicized company, which I found out is a franchise outfit. The one I used in OKC is on Ann Arbor at 681-2992. Be aware.

I sure wish I would have seen this website prior to hiring Roto-Rooter. So many of the bad reviews already written are true in my case as well. I called Roto Rooter on January 3rd for a broken sewer pipe under my main floor toilet. The pipe had broke and you could see the break just by looking down the pipe. Shannon ** (who openly admitted to a long history in sales) came out and charged $300 for the camera evaluation, which took less than 2 minutes. He waived that charge when I agreed to do the work with Roto-Rooter. The charge to fix this foot of pipe using a small trench in my bathroom was $3,177. The work was a poor quality and Roto-Rooter will not release the name of the "tech" who did the work or his credentials.

They are charging above average prices and it is likely the person doing the work isn't a licensed plumber. Not only that, but Michael did try to tell me after digging the trench that "Oh my, this is going to be much more complicated than we thought. Shannon is going to have to re-do the quote." Shannon came out and looked, but did not change the quote. I later learned that the work they did should have been between $500-600 and that charges in the $3,000 range are generally for a main sewer line repair and a much more extensive excavation. I have since found many reviews out there for Roto-Rooter about their dishonest and deceptive sales practices. I will never use them again and I will be spreading the word.

He walked around the back of property pointing to the neighbor's parking lot and said, "I am 100% sure that is the location" because his devise show an X that where his camera's location.

Then he walked back to my parking lot and said, "Oh! No, my devise indicate the camera located on your parking lot. There are too many X showing." "So, where is the real location?" I asked. He did not know. You see. I just hired a "black head" to do the job. Spending $515.35 without knowing. I contacted the manager, Mike. He claims that he can't tell us where the location is. I usually dismiss rating of "F" across the board but I think you will agree this company deserves it. Found phone number and called it to schedule a service call. But, by bad luck and a single mistake in phone dialing ended up with a plumbing company... but not the right one. I thought I had reached the desired plumbing company who was on a network and was giving me a referral to one of their vendors. The stars were not aligned for I had the misfortune of reaching Roto-Rooter who I thought was this company's vendor. Still with me? I did not ask about charges etc. because I clearly saw their price of $99 for a drain cleanout. In my shopping the across the board standard pricing to clear one blockage is under $100.

The two reps were punctual, clean and respectful. Problem: one blocked toilet. Everything else working fine. Ok, now it gets confusing. Estimate for work is $185.00. Hey, what about the $99 rate? I showed the guy the web page of the company I thought they were a vendor for. Ok, wrong company... my fault. Ok I'll pay the $185 since I had taken the day off work just to handle this and it was my mistake... so I'll pay their inflated fee. I need my toilet. They headed for the problem with what looked like a deluxe hand held auger. After ten minutes he retrieved what looked like cloth shreds. Still blocked and could not make any more progress. (I later determined that the cloth was the premoistened towels I used to wipe down the toilet) Tip: don't flush these! They are not paper.

The toilet has to be removed. They go to the van and come back with an estimate of $335. That's not $335 total. That's $335 in addition to the $185 for a total of $520. Yes $520. Remember this is not emergency of after hours service. I say, "No, I won't pay it." Like a used car salesman he comes back with, "Ok I'll knock $100 off." I could have called another company and maybe they could still come out today and maybe they would be cheaper. Ok, I agreed upon a total price of $395. Toilet removed. Blockage removed. Time spent... about an hour. The question I have for you is would you hire a company with predatory practices like this? Yes, I approved the work but this company has obviously told their people to put the boot on the customer's throat because they are desperate. People need to be warned of how this company operates.

My Laundry Pedestal looked brand new before the workers came. The next day when I got over the sticker shock for the cost of the repair, I notice a hole and crack in my Laundry Pedestal as if the Jack Hammer that they used to rip up my tile to get to the pipe hit it. Also after they were finished draining my pipe, the machine that used spilled sewage on my white carpet.

They tried cleaning that up and I tried with my home steam cleaner but the stain is still there. Since they charged me $6800 to repair my pipe, you would think the company would be responsible for any other damages they caused except for the damage of tearing up my tile. The price of $6800 is hard for me to justified since the material they used to repair my pipe would not cost them more than a $1000 and it took 3 guys 8 hours this included transport time to complete the job. I had a 10 ft sewage pipe replaced. I am wondering what cost $5800 to justified the total cost.

It seemed like it was going to be a promising experience for my toilet. The guy told me he was going to auger the toilet but it was going to cost $165. I accepted that price even though I was thinking it is a little overpriced. He was done in less than 10 min., saying there wasn't a problem anymore. I took it at face value but I was still wondering why something that was not hard to do and took such little time cost that much money. He told me there was a 7 day guarantee. That first of all is bull for the amount of money paid and we only get 7 days to see if it doesn't break really?

Luckily or unluckily my toilet had the same problem not 5 days later. The same guy came the next day and told me nothing was wrong with the toilet. I explained I had to plunge it every time I used it. He recommended either flush it while I went to the bathroom or buy a toilet and have them install it with the total price being over $2000. He augered it 3 more times before he left doing nothing to help my problem. I wanted a second opinion. So I got another worker from the same company. My last clogged drain was 2001 and granted that was a long time ago. I had 2 services in at the time. The first was there over an hour, made a mess, couldn't clear my clogged drain but charged me nothing other than a service call. The second was Roto-Rooter. They came in and had it cleared in 20 minutes and cleaned up after themselves. I don't remember what I paid but it was not extravagant. Last night I called the Exton office near me and they had someone out on time and with a call letting me know he was on his way. All good. He walked into the house, I showed him the kitchen sink and how it wouldn't drain. He looked at me with a straight face and said "4-5". I said what does that mean? "400-500". I said 400-500 what? He said "$400-$500".

He made his diagnoses within 3 minutes of being in my house. I was outraged and literally ordered him out of my house and I think my parting words were "I never want to hear the words Roto-Rooter again." What a sad statement on a business with a wonderful patent who has taken the company reputation "down the drain". I can't believe they are allowed to stay in business.

Couple of days go by she calls me back and tells me service guy quoted her around 485.00. So I came home, bought a 26.00 dollar snake and clog was fix in 5 min. I called on 12/28/15 with a sewer back-up. They came in a timely manner and finished the job quickly and neatly. However, once I received the bill realized their ad for no extra charge for holidays or weekends was completely bogus. I overpaid by at least $100 and for this reason would not recommend as I was advised on the initial call to the service center, pricing would be determined if there were additional problems with the sewer line. No issues were found. They were in and out within in 45 minutes and charged close to $500 (luckily I had a $40 coupon). When I questioned the bill, I was told pricing was set by "corporate office". My advice- use local independent vendors if ever you need emergency assistance with plumbing!

They come promptly but give a $540 quote for clearing a clog in my main drain line. I already know it is clog in main line but do not know how hard or easy it is to clear it. When the tech person quoted the $540 I ask him how long it will take to do the task. He answered it takes about 2 hour and he mentioned it is because the machine they used. Well I took it. It turn out it only takes 15 minutes. I feel it is overpriced. I will not recommend this company to anyone unless you have plenty of cash to burn.

UPDATED ON 01/26/2016: This is a continuing story of what happening to me. After I come back from vacation on Dec 29, the second day the problem relapsed. I was so upset in the new year. The Rooter company did not solve my problem. The backup of water happened intermittently. I called and complain and the guy did show up two times but they insist charging more to further investigation. I lose confidence of them. I re-hire a plumber and he did solve the problem for me and showed me what went wrong. The cost is 1/4 of rooter's charge. I did complain again to Rooters and talk to their young manager. But he kept insisting the charge is reasonable ($500 for jet service for about 15 minutes) and he also insist in the callbacks. I cannot recreate the problem for them so they think they have solved the problem. So that is my unpleasant and COSTLY experience!

I called Roto-Rooter in Berlin on Monday and they came today, Tuesday 11/25/2015. The secretary gave me a time frame yesterday and called this morning when they dispatched the driver. The technician's name was Tim. He was an exceptional service technician who was patient and explained the steps of the process in detail. He began the service call with a quote. I approved the quote and then he began working.

Through the process he asked me if I wanted to observe, for example, he allowed me to watch the video screen while he snaked a camera through the service line. This allowed me to witness the actual circumstance, therefore having a full understanding of the situation. I appreciated observing firsthand as this proved that I was not being duped in any way. (I've had other service technicians here in the past who didn't have a camera!) I was given a guarantee! HELLO! I should have called them first! (The last guy gave me no guarantee). Dealing with sewage is not pleasant, however Tim, made it a pleasant experience.

Double sink in kitchen was backing up. I snaked it, didn't work. Called Rotor Rooter and they sent a service rep out. I asked for an estimate before any work would begin. I told him the bathroom sink, tub and toilet were working fine. He followed me to the basement to look at the vents. I told him I snaked those as well, but to no avail.

He told me it would cost $750 to remove the toilet and snake it, but no guarantee that would solve the problem. He went outside and dug around the grass and found the vent at the street. He asked me to flush the toilet and come outside. He then used a flashlight and showed me the vent at the street, he said nothing was coming through and that I was in plumbing trouble. I needed a new sewer line put in for about $3500, he could have the permit by morning and get the work started. There would still be a $750 charge for removing the toilet as it was necessary to snake it after the new sewer pipe was put in.

I told him, "I am a disabled senior citizen on a fixed income, I could never afford to do this now". He had payment plans, he said. I asked him if I had any other options, he showed me a 5-gallon jug of commercial drain cleaner for $60 and told me to try this, call him in the morning if it didn't work and he would have his crew ready to start. I called a friend I used to work with, he sent his friend over, certified plumber, he brought in his 105 snake, cleared the clog and everything is working fine. Cost: $150. So what are they teaching their service reps at Rotor Rooter, how to rip people off? How to take advantage of senior citizens?

I am writing to state my dissatisfaction with the plumbing work we had done at our son's house in Tampa, Florida. I hope the service we received is not indicative of the service Roto-Rooter provides to all its customers. His home developed serious plumbing issues on Tuesday, July 28. We wanted a company with a good reputation that we could depend on to do the job right so we contacted Roto-Rooter. How disappointed we are in the service we received leaving my son without plumbing in his house for 11 days.

On Tuesday, July 28, a Roto-Rooter technician came to try to clear what we thought was a clog. The technician worked very hard for several hours before coming to the conclusion the pipe was orangeberg and had collapsed. On Wednesday, July 29, a representative from Roto-Rooter came to give us a price of $6800 to replace the pipe from the house to the main city line. He told us he would have a crew come out and dig the pipe immediately and that it would be a 2-day job. The crew consisted of one man for the first two days when finally it was obvious that one man could not do this job alone then a second man showed up to assist. What happened to the crew? One man does not make a crew.

The workers worked very hard to dig and dry out the hole but they were fighting an endless battle because of the rain. The pumps they used in the beginning couldn't have drained water from a goldfish bowl. I would have expected a company like Roto-Rooter to have better equipment. We even had to put our own pump in the hole to drain off water. I realize that the extreme weather conditions played a role in the problems that plagued this job but this is what they do and should have been better prepared with the proper equipment in the beginning especially when charging $6800.

Several times both the workers and us asked the supervisor to bring in well point equipment to help with the job but each time he refused saying it was not necessary. After 8 days with very little progress (still NO WORKING PLUMBING) and our frustration reached its peak and the threat to cancel the job, the supervisor agreed to bring in well point equipment and a bigger pump but it would cost an additional $1400. When the equipment was finally brought in, the two workers did not know how to set up or use the equipment so another day of work was lost while the supervisor showed them how to set up the well point equipment.

As our frustration grew, at no time did a supervisor from your company ever communicate directly with us about the progress of this job other than to tell us the job would cost more money. All communication was with the technicians digging the hole. I expected better communication from the people in charge in a company such as theirs.

After 11 days of NO WORKING PLUMBING IN THE HOUSE- no toilets, no showers, no laundry and unable to wash dishes - finally the job was completed on Friday, August 6 at 9:00 in the evening. This was one of the most unpleasant experiences of any company we have dealt with. I hope my complaints do not fall on deaf ears. If this company wants to keep up its reputation, they need to do a lot better than this in the future. It is very likely that any of our neighbors will ever use Roto Rooter as they watched the poor service we received. In addition, it took me 3 days of digging and raking to get the all the dirt in the yard back in the trench they dug leaving my yard with huge hills and ruts.

We had purchased a new Moen shower set and they explained since our old set was extremely outdated we would need to open the wall so the new set could be installed. We agreed to this since we were told we probably could not get replacement parts for the existing set. He called another tech who arrived and did most of the work. They put the new diverter in and soldered pipes in place. Then they moved into the bathroom to install the stems and knobs.

Needless to say they could not install the parts and we were told that the stems were defective and we would need to see if we could buy brass stems, not the plastic ones provided in the set. When they left 5.5 hours later we were $650.00 in the hole and did not have a working shower! The next day we had a local plumber check it out and he stated that it may be possible that the stems were melted when they were put in, they didn't wait long enough for the solder to cool before placing in the plastic stems. The work they performed is supposed to be 100% guaranteed, hoping we can receive at least a 50% refund for this terrible job. I doubt it.

Called for a leaky valve. Two men show up and say it needs replaced. Due to location of valve, they would have to do some slight pipe work. My husband and I discuss it, $600 estimated. Was told $208/hour for labor then offered a discount. Not sure why. Parts would be $166. We decide to do it as our carpets were wet and we were worried about the water causing even more damage. The men left to go get the parts. 45 minutes later they return. The work was done in under an hour. So we were expecting the estimate to have been over. Nope, one of the men insists they have been working since 6:15 pm. My home surveillance shows them not even arriving until after 6:20 pm. They were gone by 9:15 pm.

We were charged for 3 hours of "labor". This three hours includes the arrival of the plumbers, them putting their shoe covers on, coming in and identifying themselves, following the homeowner to the problem, assessing the situation and determining the necessary repairs and approach, estimating the total cost, presenting my husband with the estimate and explaining his determined approach, waiting for my husband and I to discuss our situation and the next step we will take, explaining to us that he has to go get parts, traveling to obtain and return with parts, do labor, find us, explain what was done, process our credit card (which he explained takes 15 minutes), and then load up and sit in truck in driveway for additional 7 minutes before leaving.

I can understand charging me labor costs from the minute they had our approval and signature on the estimate to the moment the work was complete. Homeowners understood and job was considered finalized and he had our credit card in hand. That includes paying for them to drive to wherever because they don't keep valves in their big box work truck. But to advertise free estimates, then turn around and charge $208/hr (minus some discretionary discount) for them is deceptive and fraudulent. I called this morning as sleeping on it helped very little. Was offered a $100 coupon. Was hoping to see 1 hour of the labor time shaved off. As the day has wore on, I'm just angry about the entire situation. My husband and I feel lied to and taken advantage of.

The complete ineptitude and basic incompetence of your staff, except for your very skilled technicians is a remarkable example that should be used as an example of how NOT to do business. Simply Disgraceful!

HISTORY. I own a few rental properties in Astoria, New York. One of the units had a bathroom sink with a slow drain. On 8/19/15 around 1pm I completed an on-line schedule for service for the following day Thursday 8/20/15. I did not receive an email confirmation until later, so just to be sure I call the (718) 263-2360 number. The representative confirmed that my appointment was scheduled for 9am to 11am the next day - on Thursday.

I arrived at the tenant apartment on Thursday at 9am sharp. At about 10:30am I received a call from Roto-Rooter stating that they were running late. Ok, I said. At around 11:30am I realized that no estimated time was given on the last call, so I called the (718) number to get an idea of the timing. The representative told me 1pm. I informed the representative of my situation ie: a landlord waiting in a tenant apartment and that I did not want 1pm to turn into 3pm etc. In any case, upon hearing nothing at 1pm, I called the (718) number again. I spoke with the same representative that told me 1pm and now he claimed he never said 1pm and that now it was 2pm. I was not happy, so I asked to speak to a supervisor or somebody in charge.

I was eventually forwarded to SAM **. Sam was pleasant and ran down the usual "I understand your frustration" script. He said he would call me back with a definite arrival time and when he called back, it was now 3pm, but he assured me that it was for sure. I informed SAM that I did not trust his confidence and predicted a no show at 3pm. I received a call at about 1:30pm from a representative saying that the plumber would arrive within 30-45 minutes. I was encouraged. When nobody arrived by 3pm, I was extremely upset and I admit irate when I called back SAM. He ran down the "I understand your frustration" script again but added that I was being unreasonable. He also stated; "How could I know that they would get caught in traffic."

SAM sounded like he was from New York, but after hearing him say that he could not have known there would be traffic on a business weekday at 3pm, I thought maybe he was somewhere on a corn farm in Indiana reading the Roto Rooter customer service script book. I asked SAM; "Do you have GPS on the drivers, can you tell me where they are?" SAM's reply, "Yes we have GPS," but he was completely clueless and finally hung up on me. I was admittedly very upset and I let him know that before he hung up on me. I called back the (718) number numerous times getting hung up on numerous times.

Finally a representative finally told me that the technicians were there and that they were looking for parking. I informed her, that that was not possible, because I had parking ready for them at the house, but that they were not here. She informed me simply that that is what the technician told her and that she had no other information - goodbye. At 3:40pm the Roto Rooter truck arrives. I am visibly upset, but the technicians Kelvin ** and partner is very professional. He gives me a quote of $458 and I simply say; "Does that mean you will not leave until you fix it?" Kelvin says; "Yes." I agreed to the price - even though it seemed hugely inflated. Kelvin in particular, but his partner as well, is an amazing determined professional and cleared the drain within ONE hour (Yes that's $458 for one hour of work). They are out and on their way at about 4:40pm. I was happy with the end result, but "very" upset with the process.

To summarize, the scheduling, dispatching and SAM were completely destructive in every way possible. They did nothing but give helpless lies, false information and the scripted "I understand your frustration." I lost 6-3/4 as a hostage - not knowing if or when help was to arrive. The technicians saved the day, but my guess is that they are the lowest paid of the whole bunch. NOT ONE person that I spoke to had any clue about the basic business concept of "Under Promise and Over Deliver". NOT ONE person that I spoke to had any respect for my time. NOT ONE person had the business smarts to call up after and apologize. This is a clueless company, with a great brand name who has somehow lost its way.

We had a simple clogged kitchen drain that I tried to clear with an auger, but it was not long enough to reach the clog. Wife called Roto-Rooter and made appointment to have it fixed. This was not an emergency... The plumber was in the area and stopped by in about 1 hour. So far so good... Plumber goes to work in kitchen, all done within 1/2 hour, then tells her "that will be $419.00" (after coupon discount). Outrageous! That's over $800 bucks an hour. Major rip-off for a simple job like this. Stay away from them and good luck trying to resolve this with their customer service. Always ask a plumber how much before they start.

We had our basement filling up with water so bad it blew our water heater. We called Roto-Rooter after buying a sub pump and a new water heater. They canceled on us the first day then came out and snaked the drain - they couldn't get it undone. They found some adult wipes in the drain and said they would bring out a jet system to push that through. The guy refused to go in the basement but still charged us 350 for the snaking service then said it would take another 400 to bring out the jet system and guaranteed it would work. We were so tired of dealing with the flooded basement we said yes. They ran it through but only out to the road from the middle of the yard when we kept telling him it had to be close to the house because if you poured water in there it flowed.

After paying 700 with only a 50 dollar discount for not fixing the problem we continued to use the sub pump when Roto-Rooter told us it was the city's job due to the clog was on their end and if that was not the case it would be 1500 Dollars to excavate. We called the city. They cleaned all the alleyway's pipes all the way through but our basement was still flooded. We were hopeless till a friend from work said they knew someone who might help. I called him. He came out with an electric snake same as Roto-Rooter used. I was frustrated immediately thinking this will not work. He ran it to the house. First the water shot through the drain so fast my entire basement spiraled around the drain it worked!!!!! All we saw was a small glimpse of a clog as it shot through.

We called them and requested a refund for the services. No matter what day or time we call the manager is never in and never has called us back until we finally threatened to call the Better Business Bureau on them. Then only did they e-mail us when they knew we wanted a call because we had no internet or computer and still almost 7 months later no water in the basement and no refund. The problem was a clog- no excavation needed. We were lied to by Roto-Rooter and then refused a rightfully deserved refund.

We noticed a wet spot on the ceiling yesterday and realized there must be a leak from the shower above. Called Roto-Rooter, thinking they are a reputable company. WRONG! They show an address in my small town, but I've lived here for 11 years and never seen them. Called, and it was obvious I was talking to a call center, not a local shop.

But the real problem is the absolutely outrageous pricing!! The guy that showed up told me their rates are $280 or $290/hr. I told him that was way too high. He said he could still take a look and price a free quote, so I let him look. Obviously, drywall needed to be cut into to access the leak. The plumber told me he could cut the hole for $150. I turned him down and went to the garage to get my own saw. Unfortunately it was packed away in storage. Then the plumber offered to let me use his saw. I accepted and cut a 16" x 16" hole in under 2 minutes. That was $150 ridiculous dollars saved.

The problem was obvious -- a slow leak at the shower drain. The repair required a new shower drain, new p trap, and less than 1 foot of 2" ABS pipe. The plumber wrote up a quote to do the work. The quote...$850!!! I rejected the quote and sent him on his way. These guys are obviously intentionally taking advantage of people in a jam. This wasn't even an emergency call. I ended up making the repair myself. $40 in materials at Lowe's, and 1.5 hrs labor. No leaks. Looks just like it did before.

The good: They picked up the phone when I called. The plumber was on time and friendly. The bad: Abusive, criminal pricing structure. Technically, I'm sure they're barely within the limits of the law. But there's no doubt that they are intentionally taking advantage of anyone they can. I would love to hear an honest justification for charging $850 for a job that a first time amateur can easily complete correctly, for $40, in a couple of leisurely hours. Absolute nonsense.

I also told him I needed my tank pump then he gave me a few prices $198 for the jet wash, $225 for the pumping, and a $45 for the service call. I received a call back from the receptionist. I told her what the service man told me and she said he could not give me any prices. She then gave me a number for the foreman.

I called him and went through everything again. He told me the pumping wouldn't be necessary, they could do the jet wash and that would take care of my problems at a price of $498 (plus the service call) and guaranteed it would fix the problem. I reluctantly agreed to this because he said they would also give me a 9-month warranty. The service man showed up and spent more time working on his equipment. When he finally got it working, he worked on my pipes for about 10 minutes and said there was nothing more he could do. Received a phone call and proceeded to talk on the phone for another 10 minutes while he cleaned up his stuff and wrote me a bill for $263 and a $65 service call. I called his boss and told him I would not pay this and ended up paying him $45 to leave my property. Very unhappy with them and would not use them or recommend them to anyone.

They said I would be contacted within a half an hour.... It's been 1.5 days. Understand that there are options and if you have an insurance claim CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY!! They will put you in touch with other companies that do the same type of work much less. I find the invoice very confusing and the fact that this was $3800 is just crazy. The crew was there for about 4 hours and left what seemed to be way too much equipment for a small area. The insurance adjuster said that they normally go with a different company and using their prices came up with $1800. He came up with this pricing with the equipment that was left in measuring the affected area. He also made a comment about there being 6 fans in an area that was around 600 sq ft.

This is not my area of expertise and I was not aware that service your company provided was something that I could shop around. At the end of the day I realize that my inexperience in this area cost me way more than it should have. Along with this I have learned that this branch of Roto-Rooter was developed to swoop in and take advantage of customers in bad situations, hitting them with bills that are 2 to 3 times their competitors prices. It's bad enough to be in the situation I was in and even worse that the first phone call I made was to your company. You have been nothing but extremely cooperative and friendly which was the same with every employee that I was in contact with from your company. This in no way reflects my satisfaction of the services that were rendered or how I was treated.

I left a positive feedback on the form I was given then I checked "would not do business with in the future" due to the costs. This was also due to the estimate I received to replace the drain pipe ($4200) when I had 2 other estimates that were $900 and $600. I would expect a big name like Roto-Rooter to charge more but not to the extent that they do. I want to thank you for your kindness and cooperation, and please let the people that worked for you I also appreciated them. I do not appreciate Roto-Rooter for their clear intention of price gouging customers that clearly are in need of help.

My mom was told by the tech he saved her $150 dollars by doing it that way. I have been in the parts business for over 25 years and sold brass fittings and caps at times over the years and the Most Expensive I ever remember was under 10 Dollars. So I don't mind anyone making a living or a by hour charge but $244 is a bit much when he was there less than an hour. But he saved her money by not replacing the bad part with same part that was there. (Sarcasm Here). I sure hope that a Manager from this location calls me as they do have my number and if they don't they can reach me thru here. I know that I can have my sister call the Credit Card Company and Dispute the charge but I am not looking for it Free Just FAIR.

I am very upset with this company and will never, ever use them again. I called them because of the brand recognition, but what I likely called was a franchised company that charges way, way, way too much in my opinion. After I had to haggle the 3-hours late site tech down from $450 to just reconnect my sink and toilet (read: no parts, just about an hour of labor) it cost me $250 which was apparently him cutting me a "deal." Ridiculous and extremely offensive. Adding insult to injury, they purportedly provide no service warranty -- for places that charge those kinds of prices, I expect a lifetime warranty. Just absurd.

I should have known something was up, when they refuse to discuss pricing up front over the phone, and need an on-site "evaluation" before telling you what they're going to charge you for the work, and if you (or your wife) is impatient and you haven't taken other estimates, it's probably too late for you to back out, which of course they know. Given the plethora of negative reviews, I think this warning from ConsumerAffairs sums it up quite well: "Roto-Rooter does NOT participate in the ConsumerAffairs authorized partner program." Gee I wonder why?

I called Roto-Rooter out because I had sewage backing up into my bathtub. The estimator came out and after explaining that I had not had my tank cleaned out in the 14 years that I lived here, and after he inspected my full clean out point in my main sewer line, stated he was calling a pump truck out to clean out my tank. This estimate stated it would be close to $500; $80/hr finder fee, $.15/gallon that was pumped and so on. Well the pump truck driver could not find my tank upon arrival so he called out **, whom was stated to be the go-to plumber for all the hard jobs, ran his snake down my sewer line 3 times and he pointed to the end of the snake and said that it is shiny silver so it has to be a broken pipe.

Then ** came back with a proposal fee (nothing itemized), that stated that that I needed to have a section of pipe replaced because it was broken and my price of $3,841.36 would take care of everything including all city/county permits. They came out here and dug a big hole, found the pipe (which was unbroken) and then the excavating crew broke open the pipe that was full of toilet paper. 3 weeks later I STILL had standing water in my bathtub because ** said that every time we use the restroom to flush 3-4 times because there was still standing water in our main sewer line 'after' the $3,840 'fix' and that our pipes were old and bellowed (whatever that means) and I still needed to have my holding tank cleaned (what I called them for in the first place).

Well after getting livid to the point of no return, I called out CT Brown Sanitation (love these people!) and they came out, opened the lid to my septic tank, cleaned it out (had a root blocking the end of the main pipe that they removed) and all the water in my backed up pipes disappeared. I called Roto-Rooter 'again' to let them know how their plumbing professional shouldn't be their go-to person and I needed compensation for the unnecessary work that was performed and the best that ** could do for me was $367 that CT Brown Sanitation charged to clean out my tank. I am livid beyond belief and this company was already on our local turn to 2 news channel for unnecessarily charging an 85-year-old out of a plumbing job that cost a fraction of the price. I am planning on going to them also!

I have never paid more than $ 99-125 for a drain snaking service. The tech quoted me a price of $400 just by looking at my sink--he hadn't been in the basement two minutes-- didn't know where the clog was or what the problem was. When I said "no", he brought the price down to $200. When I said "OK" because I had a coupon, he said "no coupon" because he already took $200 off the price. I said "no" again. I said "I would call another company." In the meantime, my drain cleared itself out, so I didn't need the service. He then proceeded to sell me an enzyme drain treatment which I bought. Obviously, Roto Rooter now pays its techs on commission, and the whole experience was ugly because of that. I called them several times over the years and never had to deal with this kind of sham. Beware.

These people start off trying to sound professional. The lady on the phone was nice. I then got a call from someone giving me the plumber's name and advised how long before the plumber would be arriving. When this plumber arrived (I ended up with 3 different ones as the story goes). They wore shoe cover booties when walking in the house. Okay, good impression so far. Although all of this was a good start, I would prefer they'd act like jerks and actually do the job right! I don't know where Roto-Rooter find their plumbers, but they don't know what the hell they're doing!!!

One guy showed up and rotted the sink and didn't fix the leaking sink (bathroom), which was the reason they were called out. He couldn't figure it out. A week later another idiot showed up. He was nice and he tried, but it was obvious he didn't know what to do. He ALSO tried to come up with big terms to sound like he knew what he was talking about. The leaky faucet wasn't fixed. Someone else was supposed to come out. Okay so NOW... one night, out of nowhere water started to leak out of the hoses underneath the bathroom sink. I was lucky to hear it and was able to get a bucket to prevent water damage. Okay, so now there's a 3rd guy. I SWEAR THIS GUY SHOWED UP DRUGGED UP!!! He was not in his normal senses. He was shaky and he kept sniffling. He was sooo off. I told my husband and he agreed.

So I told this idiot plumber that it seemed the hoses were mangled by the previous plumber and that could be the reason why water was leaking from there (and my faucet was also STILL leaking). So now I have two problems here. These hoses were not plastic but the metal-like mesh hoses and they were working perfectly fine for years, up until the previous plumber showed up. I told this plumber, who appeared to be a drug addict, that the problem might be the hoses. He said I needed a whole new faucet. He said the hoses had nothing to do with the water leaking them! He left and was going to return. I went to buy a new faucet and while at the store, my husband suggested we get new hoses in case we were right since the others looked mangled.

So days later, this same plumber was supposed to be there. I called him and he sound like he had just woken up - this was a 11:00 a.m. appointment. He didn't know who I was or where I lived, or what I needed done. He ended up coming over. This time he appeared to look tired, yet "normal". I showed him the hoses and he said he would try to see if that would fix the problem and it worked!!! Thanks to us, otherwise we would have more idiots showing up trying to fix that too. Easy fix! Thanks for nothing plumbers!!! He ended up changing the sink faucet. All along, all I had to buy was a washer, but they couldn't figure that out. So it was easier for them to have me go out and a whole new faucet.

When I was at the store, I had decided to purchase a tub faucet (the bottom piece where the water pours out of). I asked if he could just tell me how I can unscrew it. He said it was just a matter of turning it as if unscrewing. He ended up breaking off a piece. I thought OMG... now what??? He couldn't think of anything to say. I told him he had to fix it. He looked around the plumbing and said he would have to knock down my whole bedroom wall to fix it!!!! He was trying to get me to "fix it" for $400. Other people posted reviews also saying they tried to make them feel as if they're giving us a huge deal while they're breaking ** and charging you to fix it!!!

I had ONE plumber from a different company stop by and it was an easy fix. There was one little part I had to purchase. I read a review where a guy said he used to work for Roto-Rooter, he said there were a bunch of drug addicts working there. I read that after my experience and I believe that's true!!! I wish I would have read all this feedback first because at first they fool you with good communication, but in the end, they don't know what the hell they're doing!! If all of these warnings form all these people are not convincing, and you decide to give them a chance, record your conversations and record their work so that you can use that against them after they screw you over up your house!! If you ever want a plumbing service by a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're doing, like to waste your time and steal your money... call Roto-Rooter!!

if you know what's good for you don't deal with this company from their phone rep to their technician. It's a bad experience. They say they're not paid by commission but sure act like it. I was told on the phone by their rep service call price just for coming to the home was $40. When I asked if that would be part of the price if I had the work done he said it was up to the technician to make that decision. Just didn't sound right but when their technician arrived before he did anything I asked him about the $40 service fee he said he would waive it if I had work done. So he looked at my water heater which I knew at that time needed a $15 part. Unfortunately I didn't have the tools to do the work myself plus I'm partially disabled and couldn't lay on the ground to fix it. After all this he quoted me a price of over $300 - keep in mind part is 15 and about 20 minutes of his time.

I told him that was way too much so he told me he could give me a senior discount which would bring it down $10. What a joke. I told him "I got a price earlier of $200" so immediately he said he could fix it for approximately 200 dollars. This was over a $100 swing in price I don't get. These guys are more like salesmen who work on commission. He did fix the problem so far gave me a 90-day warranty but also said before I get paid I needed to find a coupon to get the $200 price - this was after he already started the work. Luckily I found a $50 coupon on the Internet but he told me he would then have to charge me two hundred and forty eight dollars. By then he had almost completed the work.

This was my first experience and last with Roto-Rooter. I felt and I was scammed. I'm still thinking I'm stopping the payment. Oh yeah when he took the payment he just wrote it down, a piece my credit card number, on a piece of paper - not very freaking secure. Whole company is a joke. I wish I would've read consumer affairs a lot earlier. Stay away from this company rip off!!

Came to pump septic. I knew approximate location since I just had well drilled. The employee that came did not believe me so health department was contacted - after wasting time prodding around and digging in wrong area. They told me and them that it was 22 feet from north end of house. He started prodding around in that area. I questioned him and said that 22 feet is a specific length and suggested using a tape measure. He told me he could pace it off. He also told me he searched out to 22 feet and also 30 feet - all without specific measurements. I told him something needed to happen soon because I was not going to feed the company more and more money. He then said that next steps would be bring a "locator" out. Apparently this was not anticipated, therefore was not prepared.

Suspecting unsavory business practices, I ended our business relationship then and there. I was charged $120. My suspicions remain: why were they not prepared with equipment to complete the job? Why not begin prodding in the location that the homeowner indicated? Why, when setting up the appointment, did the employee not question further about location? ** in Kalamazoo seemed very knowledgeable and I certainly asked him much about the process not knowing anything about it myself. I feel quite sure he could have prepared the worker for the job. I feel it was a set up to get my cost, their profit, up. In the meantime, I have hired another company to do the job.

    Reviewed Feb. 17, 2015

This past weekend, I found out the hard way that my main sewer line back to the street broke in my front yard. Of course insurance does not cover that. Thank God they covered the damage to the inside of my house caused by the backed up sewage that destroyed my basement. On to my (not) wonderful experience with Roto-Rooter. I called them on Monday morning and they came out to snake (power rod) my line.

At the time, I had no idea I had a broken pipe. They charged me $450 to snake my line!! I thought that was a bit high but, with all the sewage downstairs, I figured, let's just get it done and go on with life. I have a clean-out for the sewer line in my front yard, as this had occurred before, about 13 years ago, before I bought the house. The first tech had tried to snake it out, but ran into a bunch of roots and other material. He said that he was having someone else come out as it might be a broken pipe and they need a camera to verify the issue. So far, so good.

The next tech comes out and, sure enough, I have a broken pipe. All the roots were from the snake just hitting the ground in front of the broken pipe. OK, now we need to excavate and replace the broken pipe. Nothing strange here, it happens. Not happy but, what can you do? So I get a price to replace 28 feet of pipe from my front walk to the public sidewalk. $9,000.00. Seriously? Do I have gold in my front yard? Well, I can't shower, brush my teeth, use the toilet, etc. OK, I guess no vacation this year. So I sign the contract and they come out the next day (Tuesday) to start excavating.

As they are digging a trench in my front yard, my next door neighbor calls me. She and her husband have been living here for about 40 years and, they had a similar problem about 5 or so years ago. They called the village and they replaced the pipe, including breaking up the sidewalk and replacing it, FOR $700. NOW I AM IRATE!! I understand that the town can do it a bit cheaper due to the resources that they have and all but, seriously 15x the price!! Are you kidding me? To top that off, the village called me about the work and tell me that the line was replaced 13 years ago for... $500!!! WTF??

Now I am really mad. I call Roto-Rooter back and talk to the Rep, Adam, and I basically tell him that this is a total ripoff and I am not having it. Unless they give me a realistic price, I am firing the guys buried in my front yard and I am paying only for what was already done. I'll have the town finish it. We go back and forth of course and finally, we settle on $7300.00. I'm still very mad but, honestly, I'd feel terrible having to try and make that happen right now. At least we are settled then. Now it's the end of the day, the pipes have been inspected and they are backfilling the trench. They are getting close to the top and I notice, there's still a LOT of dirt left here. Not to mention, this is not just dirt. My sewer had been running into the yard for at least a couple of days and the stench coming out of that hole was tremendous.

I go out to the guy running the backhoe and ask him, "What's the deal with all of this material left over?" He smiles and says, "You have to wait for the dirt to settle." Yeah, I get that but, this mound is 3 feet high and 28 feet long. It looks like someone just dumped a pile of crap on my front lawn. I get that I need a small amount of dirt but, this is ridiculous. So I tell the dude, "You can't leave this here like that. It's an environmental issue and it looks like a huge mess. I don't need that much backfill." He just looks at me and says, "That ain't gonna happen." After all of this other garbage that I've been dealing with, this is the last thing I'm willing to deal with. So, I call Roto-Rooter customer service and file a complaint.

Not 5 minutes later, the contractor I was just speaking to knocks on my door. I'm still on the phone but he says, "We don't have the right truck to remove this stuff today, is there another day that will work?" Oh, all of the sudden he wants to be nice and helpful. He says he can come back tomorrow morning at 7. That's the only time that I'll even think about because I'll be home to make sure that it gets done properly. I guess that's a lesson learned. For everyone else who this may happen to, call your town first and see if they can help you and, if they can't, DON'T CALL ROTO-ROOTER!!!

I called Roto-Rooter to install a dishwasher, on 02/06/2015. They told me it would cost $299. When the Unlicensed tech arrived he refused the coupon saying it is a flat 300 rate, no coupons allowed. They emailed me and said they would be here in 2 hrs...it took 4 hrs for him to arrive. He didn't have the part to do the job and didn't go to home depot to get the part. He partially connected the dishwasher and told me it would be real easy to find the adapter piece at home depot and connect it myself. I believe I should get a refund or partial refund.

I went the next day to try to find the part and couldn't find it, so I called Roto-Rooter for them to come out and finish the job and told them I couldn't find the part but I paid $300 and my dishwasher is still not connected. Can they come and connect it for me? The new tech said the job was not guaranteed and it would cost more money. They came out today, 02/08/2015. I told him, "How can it not be guaranteed? You are not a fly-by-night company. You are a huge company." I told him I will put a stop payment on it and they can take me to court because any judge will be on my side, because they charged me $300 and didn't complete the job. My dishwasher is still not connected and they sent an unlicensed plumber to do the job.

After yelling for 30 min and four phone calls later the supervisor told me he would sent someone to my home to look at the dishwater and go and find the adapter I paid for to connect my dishwasher. I have never been so upset and I believe I was took advantage of. And after speaking with other plumbers they said he should of gone to home depot or ordered the part since I paid $300 for the installment, not told to go and find the part and install it myself.

If I could give them no stars I would. Pretty much my experience went just like the others. Poor performance, costly labor, and insufficient. The only thing that holds that company together is the customer service. Although I hated the fact they couldn't give me a price over a phone (so I can call a cheaper plumber) the dispatcher seemed nice. The plumber on the other hand not so nice. Price started out high, then slowly decreased to the minimum labor charge. Not only was I getting ripped off, but he had the nerve to tell me that any other plumber wouldn't be able to solve my issues. Boy was he wrong.

I got my sink line cleared for less than half the price of the basic labor charge. Did some research and even spoke to former Roto rooter employer, they are a scam! They work off commission and would do anything to get my money. Sorry Roto rooter, you're not taking my money. I would never recommend them to anyone. I don't even know how they are still in business.

In January 2015 I had them come out because the leak detector went off indicating water in the safety pan under the water heater. The plumber who came out found water coming from either the hot side or Temperature and Pressure safety valve. He replaced the hot sideline and fitting as well as the T&P valve. Since the water heater repair was 6 weeks out of the 1-year warranty I was hit with another $273 after the $10 coupon discount. Wow what a deal! Not real pleased with the convenient timing of the call back.

Jan 18th I called Roto-Rooter because my pipeline was clogged and I couldn't understand why. We rented a snake and ran it through 100 feet, still something was blocking the sewer. I called Roto-Rooter and they said they would send someone out to give me an estimate. By the time I arrived home, the man was already going through the sewerage line outside my house. Well he couldn't get the rock out so he called a partner out. When I was told they couldn't do it, they told me that they would need to dig up the ground and they would have to repair the sewerage line. I asked how much, they told me 3,400. I asked them if I didn't want to do it, I would have to pay for both trucks that came that night which I was first told 271 but by the time they left, the price had doubled because they had to use a power wash. Wow, but if I had them do the work it would only be 3,400 in total. So I agreed.

Man, was that a mistake. Once they dug into the yard, they told me they needed to dig farther in my yard and add new pipelines in my basement and add a sub pump. I don't know why, I never had one in my basement before. The pipeline they hung is off the walls and halfway around my basement walls. It looks horrible and I told them I didn't like how it looked. I was told, "Oh well that's all we can do." They charged me $8,850 with a six-month guarantee. What kind of ** is that? I asked about payment plans and I was told, "You have to pay for it all at once."

Well they took $3,800 from my account and they will be getting paid monthly for the rest, or we will be heading to court. I asked for the receipt for the material they bought and I was told they can't give me a breakdown on the job. Now that is some bull because anyone else would. They lied to me from the start saying it was a free estimate to the total amount being charged. Also after getting home, I decided to look over the written description of what was done. I cannot understand what they actually did. So I paid Roto-Rooter a $1000 an hour for work.

I would never recommend this crooked company to anyone. Monday was a holiday and these people started to work on my property with out a legal permit. That they told me they needed but someone in their office would handle it. So did they work on my property illegally. I need help and I think I was overcharged and ripped off.

I had a leaky faucet and need the bathroom sink rotted. A guy came out and rotted it for a very expensive price! The rotting took 10 minutes!! Then I noticed the sink was still leaking! He said that it was not included, he said I would have to pay that separately! He said he would do it "on the side" for $100!!! Of course I declined. I called the next day and spoke to a manager. He was very nice and sent someone over the next day to fix the faucet. This guy came by and he didn't know where the screw was to unscrew the handle. I told him to pop off the little cap on top, HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT. I should have known!! He was supposed to change a washer. So he supposedly fixed it for "free" ugggghhhh...

I had already paid for that and they tried to make it seem as if they were doing me a favor by not charging. Okay well a week later, the sink was leaking from the bottom of the sink. I noticed it was leaking from a hose which connected from the line to the sink. So the next who was sent over appeared to have been on drugs. He was acting weird and fidgety. He took a look at it and said the handle was not tightened and that it would be an easy fix... Well that didn't work. He suggested I should buy a new faucet. I pointed out the hose and told him that it seemed mangled and I probably needed a new one. He insisted it wasn't the problem.

So the next day I bought a new faucet and I had taken the tag on the hose, so that I can buy one just like it just in case. He was supposed to return and hadn't come so I called. He sound like I had just woke him up!! He had no idea who I was, or what he was supposed to fix...where I live... The time he was supposed to stop by... He finally came by. He installed the faucet. I gave him the new hoses and told him that it could be, they needed to be replaced. He pulled the one the previous plumber worked with and said it was mangled. I knew that... I tried telling him when he last came that it appeared mangled. He said the guy caused that problem.

If I had not bought those two hoses on my own, the sink would still be leaking!! I also had bought the tub faucet which was supposed to come off by turning it. He broke it!!! He said it was too bad and said that it wasn't his fault. He wanted $400 to get it fixed!!!!!! He explained that he would have to break down a wall and change a lot of the pipes...etc. He was supposed to come by, but by then I had someone else (not Roto-Rooter) stop by. This plumber said it was an easy fix and he fixed it in no time. The part was cheap and the price was nowhere near $400. I was curious to read other reviews and a former Roto-Rooter employee stated that they were a bunch of drug addicts. That took me back to when this guy first showed up and gave me the impression he had been on something. They overcharge, have no idea what they're doing and simply don't care. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!!!

My husband said okay because we knew it would never take three hours for small kitchen sink clog. In less than 10 mins the drain was cleared. He gave my husband the bill for $475! My kitchen sink backed up. I used a drain cleaner with little success. Fearing a sewer back up I called Roto-Rooter. Upon coming out the technician ascertained it was simply a drain clogged with fat accumulated over time. I told him virtually no fat or debris goes down the sink as I wipe everything with a paper towel to remove fat or food prior to washing. Regardless the tech told me he would clear the drain with a special solution for $450.00 including a six-month guarantee or $380.00 without. Mind you, no snaking, no removal of drain pipes, just pouring drain cleaner to remove clog. As I escorted him out the price went down to $250.00 or whatever I thought was fair. I told him I had bought a bottle of drain cleaner which I would use with a boiled water flush. If that didn't work I would call him back. $450.00 vs. $6.99, you do the math. My next calls are to my local television station and the BBB.

Like my subject states I am a Angry Mother of 4. On Oct. 10, 2013 I had a sewer water backing up in my tubs, sinks, and over flowing my toilet. I was away on business so my husband took care of this matter. My husband opened the phone book and went to a name he was familiar with. It was Roto Rooter. To snake the pipe and pump my tank cost me almost a $1,000 dollars. When I found out how much he had spent, my jaw nearly dropped. But what could I have done, the money was already spent. I was glad to know my youngest who was 2 wasn't running through human waste. The water rolled out of the bathroom and down the hallway to the common room. Today I noticed my tub was filling up when the toilet was flushed. A few hours later the tub, toilet, and sink were full. I thought since Roto Rooter was here 15 months ago, they would have some kind of guarantee. Boy was I wrong, they only guarantee their services for 6 months. So I asked them to come on out and pump my tank.

I have 4 kids in this house the lady heard them running around, I was still told I would have to wait a full day to get someone out to my house. When I asked how much it would cost so I would have cash in hand, I could not believe what I was told. (I am a business owner, and I understand giving a estimate over the phone could back fire in your face.) I was basically told they cannot give a price over the phone because each technician prices differently. I asked them for a ball park price and again I was shot down. I wanted to know how they set their prices, I mean there has to be a base price per hour or was it by each job they did. For example: lift the lid $20.00, pump the tank 10 minutes $100.00 and so on. I was told again each technician priced out differently. I also explained to the lady it is a couple days after a holiday was there some kind of coupon she could give me, I was told no. The technician "could" give me a discount if he/she feels like it. You read right the woman say COULD.

I called another company, in two minutes I was told it would cost me $225 dollars to pump and pour some chemicals in the tank. I have no idea how this company stays in business. Their prices are double what I am about to pay, and their "technicians" make up the prices as they go along. I also went online to find out how long a pump should last, and it seems a pump should last you 3-5 years. I do not have a garbage disposal, we are a family of 5, so I do not know how in 15 months I need another pump. If I could speak to the owner of Roto Rooter I would ask him how many complaints he has with BBB. Taking advantage of people when there is human waste involved is just un-real. Call a local company before having Roto Rooter Rooter your pockets... I hope people come to this site first and read up before calling Roto Rooter. Happy Holidays Everyone.

The sewer pipe outside our house cracked off on Christmas Day 2013, and sewage was flooding into our finished basement. The only plumber that would come out on the holiday was Roto Rooter. Felipe came out and, for almost $666.75, got us back to being able to use water and toilets, but we needed to have the outside pipe replaced ASAP. Rodolfo also came on 12/25 and did a video inspection of the sewer line. Mike and crew came out 12/27/13 to dig up our front porch and charged us to replace 5' of pipe. They also put a clean-out under where our front porch would be rebuilt. They backfilled our porch and, for $6,000 more, all was good.

In September 2014, we started having a sewer gas odor in our basement. Because of Roto Rooters 5-year-guarantee, I called them back to check things out. The tech who arrived, Jeff, told me that he didn't smell anything and that maybe I had changed laundry detergent and that was the odor. He had just walked around my basement, with me pointing out the odor being strongest near the sump pump pit.

I called NICOR, just in case it was a natural gas issue. The NICOR tech smelled sewer gas as soon as she entered our home. I called our regular plumber, and he smelled the sewer gas as soon as he stepped in the door. He didn't want to do anything for fear of voiding Roto Rooters guarantee. I called Roto Rooter several times more during October and November, and they sent out the same man who told me about the laundry detergent. By the way, I have never used any other detergent but Tide in the thirty years in which we have lived here. In early November I finally insisted that he put dye down one of the toilets or at least check the line. He claimed that he couldn't do that, he is just a tech, not a plumber. He then did schedule a plumber to come out on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

Joe from Roto Rooter arrived the next day, checked several areas in our basement, and decided that there was something wrong with our sump pump pit, that that's where the smell emanated. No fooling! I asked him to put dye down the toilet so that we could see if sewage was leaking into the drainage tile, but he claimed that he couldn't do that until Monday, 11/16. He flushed out the pit and told us to get the outside line jetted to clear out any other problems; Roto Rooter could do that for another $600+. We paid Roto Rooter $307.50 for his work, which Joe claimed had solved our problem.

The following day, the basement smelled badly again. My husband called the village, who sent out two plumbers on Monday, November 17, and they put dye down the toilet, and almost immediately red dye appeared in our sump pump pit = broken sewer pipe draining into drainage tile. I called Roto Rooter again, and they sent John out on November 17 to camera the line. He found a crack in the line just past their repair of 12/27/13. He recommended that Roto Rooter line 2 of the pipe to fix the problem another $2,300.

In the interest of getting another estimate, I called two other plumbing companies, who camera'd the line and found breaks in three places outside the house. We decided to have one of them do the repairs. When porch was dug up again, I noticed that only about 2 of PVC had been installed 12/27/13.

The new company charged us $3400 to replace 21 of line outside our house, putting a cleanout in our landscaping for easier maintenance, while Roto Rooter had charged us $6,000 for 2 of line and a clean-out under our porch. We are now smell-free!

It just amazes me that Roto Rooter charged us so much for so little. I understand the higher pricing for coming out on Christmas Day, but the rest of their charges didn't solve our problems in the long run. If Joe had just put dye down the toilet in the first place, he would have found the problem without wasting his time and our time flushing out the pit. In fact, if Roto Rooter had lined that 2 section in November 2014, I feel certain that we would be calling them again because of the cracks further out along the sewer line. Talk about ensuring repeat customers!

When the technician came to the house and announced that it will be $375 to use the snake down the shower drain, I was shocked! I asked him to call his company so we could talk about their asking price; he quickly said he could do the job for $289; I had to settle for $250 because I had no choice if I wanted to be able to use my bathroom again. Being temporarily handicapped with a broken ankle and being myself in the house I was literally exhausted to have to use the other bathroom on another floor. The technician spent 30 minutes to do the job.

Free estimates mean nothing if you are going to take advantage of customers who are usually desperate to have the problem fixed; you shouldn't have to bargain the price to get the job done! They should provide you with a fair price at once, this practice is highly dishonest! I called the General Manager the next day but my complain fell on deaf ears. This is what I called awful customer service. Roto-Rooter are crooks: stay away from them. I wish I had looked them up on the BBB website before calling them because their rating is horrible.

PS: one of my coworker had the same exact job performed the week prior and she only paid $90 with Lindstrom and she did not have to bargain to get that price!

We told him no way. We are senior citizens and live on a fixed income. Needless to say, we are out of our savings and completely furious over the lack of professionalism and dishonest dealings. We called Roto-Rooter on 10/09/2014 due to our toilets would not flush. My neighbor, works for as HVAC technician, stated that my main sewer line pipe going to the town sewer system was clogged. My neighbor stated to call a local plumbing company to get my line cabled to cleared with cutter to remove whatever was blocking the line. This is where my wife and I made our 1st mistake!!! Roto-Rooter out of Berlin, CT sent out a technician, name was Scott **. He quoted to clean my main sewer line pipe and my wife and I authorized the technician to complete the work. Price was very expensive, $411.95 but when you can't flush your toilets you have to pay to get it completed. Scott ** clear my sewer line in very quickly and then installed a sewer line camera and told my wife and I that the line needed to be replace so that this problem don't happen again. My wife and I stated that we would have to talk with our son before we could authorizing the replacement of our sewer line due the very high price. He quoted over $8500 to complete the job. Scott **, stated that the line would not stay clear for very long. He pushed very hard that it needed to be replace before the pipe collapsed!

So, my wife and I decided to get a 2nd opinion from another plumbing company as what any good home owners would do on a very fixed income and being senior citizens, my son, called a 2nd company to get a quote. The 2nd company came right out and installed his sewer line camera into my and stated that the line was prefect clean and that there would be no benefit to replace my sewer line at this time! He charge us a fee for the camera inspection and left. This left us very confused. So we decided to call a 3rd company to have my sewer line camera, it cost us over $500 but the technician said if our line did need to be replaced that he would waive the camera fee. So we again authorized the technician to complete our 3rd camera inspection of our sewer line. During our inspection, Jay the 3rd technician stated that there was no visible problems with our sewer line.

So after paying the 3rd company to complete the sewer line inspection that we did not need, Jay inquired who told you that your sewer line needed replacement. I stated to him, Scott ** the technician from Roto-Rooter. Jay smiled and stated that Scott ** is now the Owner of Berlin, CT Office, and stated that Roto-Rooter Corporation out of Cincinnati, Ohio has purchased sewer line replacement equipment for Scott ** Operating as an Independent Contractor to complete sewer line replacements. Roto-Rooter Corporation in Cincinnati, Ohio needs Scott ** to sell so many Excavations per week to keep his equipment!!! So Mr Scott ** will sell a Excavation to just about anybody even if you don't actually need one. That's why all main line technicians have sewer inspection cameras on their vans, or they call Scott brother, Christopher **, Excavation Manger to complete a sewer line inspection.

Scott ** has a reputation in the plumbing field for completion these sewer line replacement, preys on Senior Citizens!!! Scott ** has work for Roto-Rooter, Mr Rooter, Solvit, Rooter Express, and now Roto-Rooter again as a Independent Contractor, completing misleading excavation throughout the State of Connecticut, Just call MDC of Hartford, CT. So beware!!! Call your local plumbing before you get any work completed!! Hope this helps, from a tired of being rip off customer!!! John - PS Watch out for Mr Bela **, non license plumbing technician, Scott"s highest excavation sales technician.

The technician was following company rules. The receptionist at the Alaska Anchorage office inform me that the fee was for gas, truck and equipment. $202.50 for a 10 minutes job is tough to accept. Had a sewage back up in May 2014. Called Roto Rooter to have main line unplugged/snaked out. Roto Rooter came. Guy snaked it, was there less than 1 hour for $395.00. A few weeks later main line clogged again. A different Tech from Roto Rooter (older INEXPERIENCED man disguised as a plumber) comes. Snakes it. "Oh you will need a cleanout, cost about $3,000.00." Yeah, ok....kept getting sewage back up... Called a REAL INDEPENDENT "EXPERIENCED" Plumber, Al. "Your main line is frozen, I take care of it $250.00." No problems of back up since. Sorry Roto Rooter got over on me. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ROTOR ROOTER TO DRAIN A KIDDY SWIMMING POOL. Poor quality service, so glad thankful for "AL" an experienced plumber that knows what he was doing. Only will recommend AL to friends, family, co-workers.....and tell everyone don't mess with Roto Rooter. Their service "STINKS."

Roto Rooter dug up part of the driveway and had a huge hole with nothing to support the concrete and my father was concerned it would cave in and told them, they brushed it off. Now a year later the driveway is shifting in area they had hole. One corner is up in the corner, another went downward, enough someone could easily trip. We are still waiting for a return call but I'm not holding my breath.

I tried to fix my kitchen faucet and ended up breaking it. I called Roto-Rooter and then went to the hardware store to purchase a faucet. By the time I was getting into my vehicle with the new faucet, I received a call that they would be at my house within the next 20 minutes to 1 hour. This was perfect timing; they were prompt, efficient, and courteous. I could not have found another plumber (Saturday morning) that would have responded so quickly.

Originally called Roto-Rooter to fix a pipe under my laundry tubs that was leaking. When technician got here the pipe was no longer leaking, so nothing to fix. I told him I would like the drain cleaned out in the basement just for maintenance. He started talking about lights and going out to the main sewer which I didn't need or want. It was just Maintenance, there was no problem. He told me it would be $219.00, and he waived the traveling fee as I was in Livonia like he was and there was no traveling done. I told him I had a $40.00 coupon for a drain cleaning I got off his website. He said I couldn't use it as I already had a discount on the traveling, which he said he didn't travel so I say it wasn't a discount, it wasn't incurred. This guy was wayyy over priced at $219.00. It took him about 10 minutes tops to run the little snake down there. Why put a coupon out if you aren't going to accept it? I was going to tell him to just forget it and I should have. I will never call Roto-Rooter company again or recommend them to any of my clients or friends, as I feel he was shady and I was overcharged and I should have gotten to use the $40.00 coupon.

I called Roto-Rooter out because my bathroom tub and shower had nasty water standing in them from a backup. Once or twice a year I had drain problems, but usually I got them cleared with vinegar and lots of boiling water, and standing water with no drainage was very unusual. The technician arrived the next day and I explained the history to him and about where I thought the blockage was. He fairly promptly began trying to sell me $50 a gallon solution to put down the drain periodically, and ran his rooter from the clean out toward the main, before turning it toward the house and bathroom.

Soon, he proclaimed the clog was cleared, which I promptly disabused him of by showing that the nasty water was still standing in the tub and shower, undisturbed. He continued for awhile, suggesting I might ought to purchase 2 gallons of the $50 solution, before finally proclaiming I need to spend $400 or $500 to have a movie filmed of the inside of my drain line. This, I knew to be absurd, as it's a small house with only one bathroom, and I knew approximately where the blockage was, it just required getting it cleared. I alternatively suggested he go at the problem from the other end, running a line from somewhere in the bathroom upstream of the clog. He decline, and gave me an invoice, which I signed, "Not Accepted."

He hadn't accomplished anything. It was a Friday, and I was afraid I was going to have to spend the weekend with everything clogged up, but I was lucky enough to find an actual plumber who had a cancellation that afternoon, and came right out. He started from the same end as the technician, but soon decided he would have to approach it from the other end. He then determined it would be best to run a line through the vent from the roof, and just like that, the problem was solved. His bill for solving the problem was less than Roto-Rooter's invoice for accomplishing nothing. They can sue me.

OneCare no longer handles complaints or requests for refunds. This could be the reason I received such poor service. I have been contacted by CR Brands who is now responsible for Customer Service and they assured me my issue will be resolved. After speaking with their representative I am confident the issue will be resolved. I now consider the matter closed.

I purchased and used the Roto Rooter clog remover and it did not work. I contacted Onecare to claim the $7.27 refund based on their guarantee. I gave them all the required information, date of purchase, UPC code, lot code, and offered them a copy of the invoice I paid to have Roto Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service come to my home two days after the failed attempt using the clog gel remover. The Plumbing and Drain Service worked fine and I was very satisfied with their service. I am very unhappy with Onecare who indicated they would have to have corporate contact me regarding the $7.27 dollar refund for the gel. No one from Onecare called or contacted me via telephone or via my e-mail address that I provided, nor did they contact me on my follow up call. I would not recommend using the Roto Rooter gel clog remover, if you planned to use it based on their money back guarantee. I used Drano, which also did not work on my clogged drain and received a refund from SC Johnson without any hassle.

I called Roto-Rooter due to a stopped up sewer line, just outside my house. I was told they would arrive first thing in the morning, but it was 11:30 before they arrived. They showed up with a large digger to use for digging a 3 1/2 foot deep hole, 6 feet long in the flower garden of my yard. When I questioned the excavator about the damage to my yard driving this machine across it, he promised it would not cause any damage. He added if any damage did take place, they would fix it back just like new! He agreed he had a smaller machine at his shop that would possibly be better, but he didn't want to go back and get it. He also felt no need to put plywood down on the yard before driving across it. Because his truck had a bad parking break, he parked this big truck and trailer in our driveway, blocking us from getting out and leaking oil on the driveway. They then waited until 2:30 to begin repairs.

After beginning digging, they pulled the waterline loose from the house, spraying water into our house. In order to repair the water line, a portion of the ceiling and wall had to be cut away. Once the leak was repaired, they completed repairing the sewer line. It took two days to complete the repairs and then they tried to replant dead flowers they dug up on the first day. Despite the manager agreeing they should have at least put down plywood, which would have taken only 3 sheets, before driving across the yard, he was not responsible for the damage.

He finally agreed to throw several bags of sand in the ruts, while charging us nearly $4000 for the sewer pipe repair. Roto-Rooter has you sign numerous papers before starting repairs and one of those papers say they are not responsible for any landscape damage, as well as a hold harmless. My experience with Roto-Rooter is they worked extremely slow, did not care about customer service and was much more expensive than other companies. Due to the emergency I agreed to pay the amount requested, but I expected a professional service in return. This was my first and last time with Roto-Rooter.

We went to breakfast, came back same problem. Call them back on the roof again, cleared it. Wanted $189.00 more, told him it was not cleared. He then voided my guarantee. Pay $45.00 service fee, TOTAL $ 380.00. Way over-priced.

Roto-Rooter came out to my house on 5-15-2014 to clear a clogged pipe. The charge was $270.00 for about a hour's worth of work and the tech was 9 hours late - was scheduled at 1 and did not get there till 9:30 pm!!! On 6-16-2014, one month later, the same thing happened. I called Roto-Rooter back because I had a 6-month warranty. They did everything they could to not honor my warranty - when the tech came out (they are not plumbers just to let you know), he was so rude. It was James and Ian -- Ian explained he was in training but James was so lazy he played some game where he stuck a camera down the drain and said my pipes had collapsed and that it would cost me $4800.00 for them to dig the pipes up and he was in such a hurry to get out of there he left his little stool there.

I called Roto-Rooter back and threatened to sue them for my $270.00 back and more if they did not fix the problem... The next day, they sent another tech out who was very nice and as of right now the problem is fixed. I did not realize that these are not plumbers. These are guy that work on commission and are paid per job. That's why they always tell you something else is wrong so they can make more money off of you... Best advice - run from these jokers and find a real plumber who will snake your drain out and treat you with respect... James is joke and I wouldn't let him in my house ever again.... Worse company ever to work with.

I needed a toilet reset and float valve replaced. Called Roto-Rooter and was greeted by a very competent representative (over the phone). My appointment was set for between 9-12 am the next day. I explained I had cleared the clogged toilet - pulled the toilet and needed it reset - did they need pipe measurements. Response was oh no we don't need that.

Next day arrives multiple calls as update to delayed arrival of plumber. The 'plumber' finally arrives at 12:30 - he does not have the appropriate tools and supplies but will make an estimate. Can we install Saturday? I told him that was not acceptable. My husband and I would do the install over the weekend. He made some call and said the plumber would be out and have the job finished before 17:00. I needed to be out of the house by that time. This first representative collected the funds for his estimate of service which came to $449.25 (high but if the job will get done ok).

The second wave of plumbers arrived at 15:00 and said because I have lead pipe (my husband assured me we do not) they would need a brass flange and would not be able to finish til Monday. At this point I said let's cancel the whole job for the price and the timing it is not worth it. I called the office to cancel my check and the job, waited 8 minutes for a supervisor. All of this could have been avoided. They had no way of completing this job nor the expertise. For the price, it is not worth it. My husband and I will complete over the weekend. This will be my last experience with this company.

I had a plumbing issue - plugged pipe and a shower piper needed replaced. I called Roto-Rooter out to fix these issues on May 26. The tech came out and gave me a estimate and unplugged the main pipe. Then said he would have to send out two more techs the next day to fix the shower and another pipe. I said ok (one day of work missed). On the May 27, the techs show up and suppose to have fixed the problem, even stated on the receipt that it was checked and all was good.

Then on May 28, I get up to go to work and take a shower and the problem still was not fixed. The shower would not drain. So I called back again. They tell me they are sending out another tech to fix the problem. I called at 8 am, tech arrived at 11am, tells me that he can't fix the problem and that Roto-Rooter would be sending out another tech within the hour. After several phone calls from Roto-Rooter about the tech would be delayed, he finally shows up at 9:30 pm (Day of missed work) waiting on techs. So he finally tells me that there is nothing he can do to fix it because the supply stores are close and that in order to fix the problem, a new pipe needed to be run. I said on the receipt I was given, it stated I had paid for new pipes and that all was fix. Come to find out they replaced nothing.

The tech gave me the Manager's name which was John. I called him first thing on May 29th (Third day of work missed) and explained what his tech had told me. He ask me what I wanted besides getting the problem fixed. I told him I expected to have some kind of refuse because of all the problems and work I had missed due to having to wait on, at this time, 7 different techs coming out to my house to fix a problem that took them a total of 1.5 to fix and that was even going to the parts store. John said he would look over the paperwork and get back with me on Monday June the 2nd. That of which never happen either. They did finally get the problem fixed, however, it cost me $1110.00 to replace piece of pipe that was two feet long and three days of work because the techs didn't do their jobs correct the first time. The fact that the manager never called me back like he said shows this company's commitment to their customers.
