Drain problem. Was told by drain tech that it would be $425 to clear drain and have a camera put in drain. I was told that the video would be available for me to have so I could show it to the city officials because I believe there was a problem on city side. Tech told me that the video would be available to me to do what I wanted with it. He cleaned the drain and arrange for camera to be done the next day. I was not able to be there when camera guy came out. He told me I had a problem with drain and it would cost around $6000 to repair. I was told by him that they upload the video and I would have access to it the following week.
After calling three times I was able to talk to a very rude manager that says that don’t give their customers access to the video. We told me if I don’t used their plumbing for repairs then why should they supply a video. I would have had the camera done if I know that. I guess their employees in the field do not know how things work with the video. I believe this is very bad business I will be spreading the word not to do business with your company.

I have never wrote a review before but this is such an outrage that if anything, I could warn somebody or at least let them know that they are not alone in their loss. So my fiancé and I had a blockage in our toilet. That was what we called about, but as they went through the pipes, they saw our water heater in the garage and suggested we should get a new one because it looked old and could go out very soon and to order it now because it will be cheaper than later. Naïve, because our water heater worked but I didn’t know anything, and it did look old, I agreed. Later, they said the pipes needed to be replaced as well. I didn’t know anything about it, but if it was part of the blockage, then I guess so.
Fortunately, a friend came by and looked at things and questioned why I was pressured into buying a new water heater when the former worked. Feeling dumb, naïve and scammed, I stopped everything and my bill came out to $7000.00 basically for a blockage, a new water heater (that I didn’t need) and two holes in my front yard, where they were going to put pipes but it wasn’t what caused the blockage. Just some roots in the pipe.
After asking for an itemized invoice, the cost came down to $6100.00. The thing I really bought is knowledge and to warn anybody about Roto Rooter. I will never use them again and if I hear someone questioning if they should, I will easily say a hard no! Find someone else! I got ripped off! Won’t recommend them to my worst enemy! And if you are here because on their site, it’s straight five stars, well look at all the people on this site who have similar stories to mine! You are in good company! This is where the truth is at!

Initially I had an appointment with some technician from Roto-Rooter on 3/7/2020 between 4-6PM. During the time window, he suddenly noticed that he couldn't come and changed to next morning 10AM. Next morning he did show up during the expected time window and not sure he would come or not, and I had to call the company to check his whereabouts. He was late again although eventually showed up. The charge is pricey. I was charged $415 labor and $69.23 part for simply to replace a tub diverter.

Customer service rep was rude regarding experience with quoting process. Instead of saying "I am sorry you didn't have a good experience" he continued to argued with me, should have just heard my side, but he continued "What a wonderful company they are" etc... and of course the angrier I got!! Your reps need start listening instead of arguing to their customers. Very deceptive in the quoting of your services, if I knew the "true cost" I would have never hired your company. What was supposed to be a simple bathroom faucet replacement has turned into a month of a leaking pipe that the plumber dismantled in the first place. Three different plumbers in total have worked on this pipe on three separate occasions and it is still leaking to this day. The last plumber disabled the stopper for the drain so I can't lock it into place. I'm currently trying to get a fourth plumber from Roto Rooter to fix the problem but it has been a week since I last heard from them. Yes, I was told that they'd contact me and I even called them back twice in that week with no response.

I was dealing with a rodent issue under my home and didn't realize I had a small leak issue until my flooring starting to show swelling. I contact numerous companies. Everyone swamped and I expected them to be higher price, but not to this extent. At first on the phone I was told a fee of $75 dollars for them to give an estimate for repairs, I made it clear to the gentleman at the computer of my situation. The next day the repair guy arrived and informed me that being the issue is under my crawlspace it would requires two techs at $440 ea due to Osha requirements just to estimate repairs. They charged me $1,800 to cut and repair a 12" section of pex piping. 10-15 mins of work. I was stupid to fall for their tactics.

On January 18, 2022, we had sewage come through our downstairs toilet and tub. We called your company for the issue. We spent $4 to $5k on a grinder we purchased from your company about 4 years ago. It only made sense to call Roto-Rooter. Chase came out and stayed for less than 10mins. He ran water in my bathtub, bathroom sink and flushed the toilet and left. I told my husband he didn't do anything, and this could happen again. It did cause small water damage to my carpet. On January 19, 2022, I went downstairs and my whole carpet was soaked with sewage. I investigated the bathroom and sewages was coming out the toilet and tub. Once again, I called your company out to fix the problem bc 1. We spent money with your company for a grinder. 2. Your tech Chase was just out here the day before and didn't do anything.
This time I had extensive damage to all my downstairs carpet. I can't remember the guy’s name. It begins with a J. He went outside to check my grinder pump. He manually got it started and everything started flowing correctly. We were both in the rain making sure that we get the problem solved. He was awesome. The next morning, I called Roto Rooter the next morning, to let them know of my issue and Alex (manager) called me. I sent him pictures of the damage both days. Then he had Antonio (Project manager) to call me. They sent two guys to come clean my carpet. When the guys came to my house, they informed me that this was too big of an issue for them. I took before and after pictures. Let's just say the next morning my carpet was horrible; it was worst before they did what they did.
Once again, I reached out to Alex and Antonio with pictures. No response from Alex this time. Antonio came out the next morning. He had it set already in his mind that they weren’t going to pay for anything. He told me he was going to talk with his GM Bryant L. Antonio called back and said the GM wasn't going to pay for anything. I told him to have his GM call me. Antonio said he was out of town. Funny, you just said you just talked with him. I called my carpet cleaning guy to clean my downstairs carpet a week later due to Roto-Rooter neglect. I must remove my whole downstairs carpet bc your tech didn't do his job the first time. I have reached out to Roto-Rooter several time and I get no response or VM. Roto-Rooter should pay for me to have my carpet replaced downstairs.

I own a rental property and got a call after hours on a Friday from the tenants saying that the shower would leak into the floor below when water was draining out. Since it was the weekend and I didn't want them to be without a shower all weekend - I wanted to call an emergency repair service to get it repaired quickly - so I chose Roto Rooter. They could not make it out Saturday but did come out Sunday. Person number 1 stopped by and all they did was take photos.
Person number 2 came by hours later, which was the plumber who I assumed would fix things. He calls me and tells me he can't do anything and they need to get the "water restoration" team in. Further says that they will use infrared guns to see where the water is coming from, will open the ceiling and then sanitize it. I then told him this leak JUST started and ONLY happens when water drains from the shower.
I asked him if he could open up the ceiling and repair the pipe and he refused to do so saying that it was their "protocol" to bring in the water restoration team. He also said that all the plumbing supply stores were closed and he wouldn't be able to fix it anyway due to this - which is crazy because I would expect an emergency repair service to have basic pipes ON HAND to use in repairs. I then asked him what a ball park estimate is for this "water restoration team" and he wouldn't tell me anything. At this point - I was done with them and told him to pack his bags. When I hire a plumber, I expect ONE person to come and ONE person to fix the issue. Not multiple teams of people. I suspect had I gone forward that I would have been looking at a HUGE bill.

Got a verbal quote to move a water spigot from the plumber of 65 to 75 dollars to move the spigot on 2-2-22. I agreed because I thought that was a great price. Did not check around with anyone else. The same guy came on 2-5-22 to do the work. He was at my house for 3 hours and ran 6 foot of copper line. Put the original faucet back on. He charged me $955.74. He put 2 hours of labor. Told me that it was around the quote he gave the other day. I had a hard time believing the work could be done for less than $100 but almost $1000 is ridiculous. Would never recommend them and will never use them again in the future. To anyone that thinks about using them get a written quote beforehand.

On January 26th 2022 I called my local Roto-Rooter and explained that I had a clogged kitchen drain. The woman I spoke with told me that she could have someone out that afternoon. I made the appointment and inquired about their pricing structure. She said that “it depends on the job.” That afternoon the technician showed up. I showed him the problem and he told me that it would cost $565.00. I was shocked and I freely admit that I agreed to the price since our sink could not be used and had also started to leak due to the standing water. I know I could have told them to leave, but I didn’t (had I known the price to free a clogged drain at the outset I certainly would have shopped around). Less than an hour later the problem was solved. The average plumber in Westchester County charges around $175/hour.
When I called the local Roto-Rooter this morning and related the above I was told that, “that’s the standard price for a clogged drain ($565.00).” Why were they unable to tell me this when I called initially? She said that it is Roto-Rooter’s policy not to give prices over the phone. I feel that this is a disingenuous business practice that is in place to take advantage of customers who are anxious to have their plumbing problem resolved as soon as possible, before further damage can occur. This is just like someone selling bottles of water for exorbitant prices after a natural disaster or N95 masks for $20 each during the pandemic. I emailed Pat ** at customer service and got an non-response. I then telephoned and left a message and got no response. Telling, I think, that they would not comment on their pricing structure before or after the job.

We utilize a companywide flat rate task code book with charges incurred per service rendered. We do this for consumer protection. Many industries use the same format for the same reason.

The issue for my home was a busted water line behind the fridge, the only thing that was technically repaired by Roto Rooters was just a shut off of the water line to the fridge. I had two appointments that morning and they came out and looked at my home unattended and took advantage of that situation. They were told to keep in contact with my insurance company from the first day they came and never talked to my insurance agent until the damage was done.
I came back and saw how they have ripped up my flooring through my whole kitchen including all molding and throughout my closet, they ripped up all the molding in the bathroom, hallway, took off partial door frame molding, stripped excessive carpet padding, drilled holes into my wall and stripped some wallpaper off of my wall. I ended up having to stay at a hotel for a couple of days because of all the equipment and damage done to my home. They never contacted my insurance and I had to take the time and send over pictures and complain about all the things they did in order for me to get a place to stay because the house was unsuitable for me and my dog to live in.
After the damage was done and paperwork was signed, I called Roto Rooters manager to talk about the excessive damage. They damaged my home like it was CAT 3 water damage (which is sewage water damage) when only CAT 1 water damage actually took place (clean water). That I later learned technical terms from my insurance company. I asked for a itemized bill of what they were charging for and never received one until two months later after staying on top of them and was only sent emails between their agent and my insurance agent. I am being charge over 8,000 dollars for the excessive damage that took place, insurance is only covering up to 3,000 and they expect me to pay the rest out of pocket when I don’t have that kind of money and more damage was done than needed all for a water line behind the fridge.
It’s funny that you guys initially charge me almost the exact amount that insurance sent me to FIX my home. I have tried to talk to them respectfully, complain and get the bill reduced but they refuse to do so. My insurance agent is trying to vouch the amount of work done was excessive and they claim that since the work is done it’s a oh well you must pay situation. I was sent a partial bill amount for the amount insurance paid for and was told I would be contacted by a lawyer if I didn’t pay the 5,000 that was left. They are charging for destroying my property, throwing away good product that could still have been used in my home, excessive equipment left for four days to dry out the whole home when my house is older and built on a slab.. A home like that will never have 0% moisture. So why charge me for excessive drying when it will never reach that level.
They charged for unnecessary things. They are trying to charge me for cleaning my bathroom sink, tub and toilet. For cleaning my bathroom mirror, my stove and cleaning my kitchen table and washer and dryer. They took pictures of them holding a rag to these items that were in fact dirty when I came home. Now why would I need you to clean out my bathroom tub for a busted water line behind my fridge? And then you later charge me because of paperwork I signed BEFORE I was even aware of what you were charging for. That has nothing to do with it whatsoever. Again it is cat 1 water damage why would this need to be done.
It has been stressful dealing with the unprofessionalism done with this company, the excessive damage to my home and they took the opportunity to take advantage of young female woman at the age of 21 who just bought a home living on their own. How is the a way to treat your customers? How is this professional and how do you claim to be a good company and treat your customers this way? You guys did anything to try to get money out of someone for no good reason.
I will not use this company again and wouldn’t recommend. I will fight this situation because no one has money just to blow on a situation that was taken over the top especially when I have came to you guys with respect and all I have been treated with is the run around of not being contacted by the manager, unreturned phone calls, left in the dark about a situation, and failure to be presented with proper paperwork, emotional damage, a destructive home and a high bill that I cannot afford for damage that shouldn’t even have been done.

It turned out that the first fix didn't solve the problem, but another technician (Mark) came the next day (actually within a two hour window), completely fixed it, and was very helpful overall.
Original Review: Jan. 7, 2022
While they fixed my problem quickly, my scheduling with Roto-Rooter was a nightmare. They said they would come 11-3 yesterday, didn’t show up, then said a technician would arrive by 9 today, and after some back and forth, a guy finally came at noon. It was $260 to unclog the toilet and an estimate of $400 for a shower drain. Not sure what comparative prices are, but that seemed high to me.

Our external sump pump discharge pipe froze (unbeknownst to us) and was causing the sump pump motor to overwork itself and vibrate throughout the entire house. We called Roto Rooter and when the technician arrived he inspected indoors & outdoors and informed us that the discharge pipe was frozen from the outside all the way into the basin inside. He cut the external discharge pipe which burst due to being a block of ice and informed us we did not have many options due to the pipe being frozen all the way into the basin, therefore not being able to check if the motor still worked and would discharge water. He informed us it was likely burnt out as he said it smelled burnt and that our only option due to the pipe being frozen was to replace the entire sump pump for $1,400 so “everything could be replaced from the inside out and nothing would be frozen.”
My husband works in IT and has no clue about home repairs but thought this line of thinking sounded bizarre so we called our neighbor, a retired home contractor, for his opinion. He suggested we get a second opinion and in the meantime try to defrost the pipe. We informed the Roto Rooter tech we would like to seek a second opinion and paid the $275(!) “service fee”. That’s right $275 for them to saw open the pipe and give us what turned out to be completely false information. My husband and father were able to defrost the remainder of the pipe rather quickly to see that it was not, in fact, frozen all the way into the basin and, once defrosted and plugged back in, the sump pump worked just fine to discharge the water again. All we had to purchase was a new pvc drainage pipe from Home Depot to replace the one Roto Rooter cut open.
I feel like the RR technician was either not knowledgeable enough or too lazy to suggest defrosting the pipe as a first step and instead jumped directly to replacing the entire sump pump system. Or this could be a standard practice for this company to which really takes advantage of home owners who don’t know better. As a result, I will never use this company again and suggest getting a second opinion if you do.

My mother's washing machine broke and started leaking. Unfortunately I wasn’t in town at the time. In desperation she called Roto Rooter. A technician came out, shut off the water and told her the cost would be about $3000.00. She signed a contract that she could not see. Roto rooter set up fans and a humidifier then left. They returned days later to remove the fans and didn’t do anything to the walls, ceiling, baseboard etc. Days later my mother received a $9000.00 bill from Roto Rooter. When I confronted the company they refused to reduce the bill, kept claiming the company did a lot of work, and acted as con artist instead of an legitimate business. My water heater thermostats failed the day before I have a guest visiting me for Christmas, I found Roto Rooter from their google advertisement, called their office to submit a service request. I was told the waiting window was 10am-2pm the second day. Their office called me by 1:30pm to let me know that their technician arrival time would be delayed, he would for sure show up, however they could not commit a time. I wanted to resolve the issue asap with a guest visiting situation, so I waited till a technical finally showed up at 7:30pm.
After tried to restart the pilot a few times, the technician stated water heater issues are in general hard to diagnose, he could not figure what went wrong, he would suspect a thermal wire was the issue. He promised he would come back the second day and also promised he would fix the problem for sure. Again it was until 6pm the next day their office called me if any technical contacted me, when I told him I have been waiting for a whole day, the office person said he would contact the technical and have him call me back. Again not a phone call from anyone afterward.
Today is the fourth day since I talked to this company, still not hearing anything from them at all. I have completely lost trust on them. I want to share my experience so you won't fall into the trap when you consider using them. We initially contacted Roto-Rooter for help about a house-wide sewage backup we were having. We explained to the initial call taker our initial prognosis from what we had already been told from a previous company, and what services had already been performed in the recent past. It is fair to say we were in a desperate situation with sewage backing up throughout the house and roto-rooter knew this. Upon the service technician arriving at the residence, I explained to the technician that a previous company had snaked the cleanout to tank and was under the impression that we had a busted line somewhere underground.
The technician stated they would run the sewage machine in the cleanout to see if there was a clog, and then run their camera to see if anything of concern could be located. The technician stated that this call and service would cost appx $640 dollars. Being a week before Christmas I was reluctant to agree to the high dollar amount, but due to the present exigent circumstances I felt I had no other options but to agree to the price thinking these guys could fix our problems.
The technician’s initial diagnosis was believed to be we had a two-tank system and that we did not have any broken lines. The technician stated in an obvious visual that we had a “lift station/pump station” which is above ground access and that when you have that, you also have a solid waste tank which is typically buried. This was news to us as we have no knowledge on the components in a septic system. The technician stated we should have our solid waste tank pumped because it was full. The technician then packed up the equipment, had me pay the bill of $640 dollars, sign it, then left the residence.
So at best the technician made an educated guess as to the diagnosis of our problem. We then had to contact a septic service that day to have them come and try and locate and pump a second tank. The 2nd company did in fact locate a 2nd tank and did pump it out due to it being completely full and backed up into the house. The septic service tech stated that due to the pipe being completely compacted with waste that there was no way anyone got a camera in there to verify anything other than a pipe packed full of sewage.
We then contacted Roto-Rooter with our concerns of the price point for services rendered. While voicing our concerns we were brashly and smugly reminded by the initial customer service representative that I signed a bill/contract twice. Essentially telling us, well you signed twice there’s nothing you can do about it. While I am familiar with contractual obligations, it was in my opinion unprofessional and unnecessary to throw that in our face. Being a Friday afternoon the inflection and tone in the customer service representative's voice was becoming clear. They didn’t care about us or the fact we paid a ridiculous price point for 30 minutes’ worth of guesswork, she then referred us to the general manager.
Upon speaking with the general manager, he seemed to be a little more levelheaded but a bit more of a smooth talker. We advised the general manager that another company had previously been out to the residence prior to attempt to fix our problem and unbeknownst to us pumped the lift station and did not pump the correct tank and charged us accordingly. The general manager stated that the previous company had ripped us off for not knowing about the 2nd tank and that we should call and complain to them.
We then explained that the septic company who came and pumped the solid waste tank had told us that roto-rooter charged us way too much and ripped us off, the general manager had the nerve to call that company unprofessional and advised us not to make insults with an elevated tone as if it were a warning. The general manager stated he would investigate this matter and then call us back no later than 12/18 (the next day) to explain why they charged what they did.
The general manager then called us back on 12/20 and went through his long-drawn-out spiel on how their equipment is very expensive and that is why the cameras cost 300+ dollars to operate on a call. The general manager then proceeded to tell us that they came out same day and that no one else would have come out same day to look at our problem, and they have been in service for 80 years and they know what they’re doing. He then offered a piddly 150-dollar refund off our 640-dollar bill because our happiness was his concern…yeah okay.
This was our first-time using roto-rooter and after this interaction, ridiculous price points, and just generally apathetic tones from the customer service team, it will be the last. The service technician was the most polite and professional person we interacted with, and I know the service tech is not the one who sets the price points, our grievance is not with the service tech. Our grievance is with the company who has a perceived unethical business model and the perceivably apathetic customer service team we interacted with.
I wish I would have read reviews sooner on this company to see that other unfortunate souls have had similar or worse experiences with them. They take advantage of people in really bad situations, sell them snake oil and charge them astronomical rates which you are forced to sign for before any initial diagnosis or guesswork is made regardless of the simplicity of the job. The camera service was an unnecessary add-on to only increase price of the bill. The camera was only capable of diagnosing what was already blatantly obvious, a pipe full of sewage. No new knowledge was gained from the camera service therefore an unnecessary add-on.
I am not voicing these concerns and interaction on every public and private platform because I think we need a free service. I am voicing my concerns as a warning to any who might be considering this company for their needs. Reading through countless other recent reviews across the internet this company has seemed to establish a wonderful pattern for how much they don’t really care about the customer or taking care of them. They only seemed to be solely concerned with utilizing unnecessary services to raise the price of the bill. If you have read this far, please heed my warning along with the countless others and take this into consideration when choosing a plumbing service and steer clear of this company at all costs.

Our hot water heater went out on 12-4-2021. We called Roto-Rooter and got put onto a waiting list. They come out on 12-8-2021 and the plumber went upstairs for 3 minutes, called someone to ask him what to tell us, comes downstairs tells us what parts we needed. My husband was trying to ask a question and the plumber just kept walking to his car. We sit on hold with the hot water heater people and they said we needed a photo of the part that needed fixing so I call Roto-Rooter to get the plumber to come back out to take the photo and the receptionist told me to take it myself. I said I paid 99 dollars for this man to come for 3 minutes and not help us at all and she said, "He will call you back."
Never received a callback. Left a bad review. They call my husband to give him a 25 dollars off if we use them. I called Friday and Saturday to speak with a manager, never received a callback. Called back this Monday 4 times and the manager was in a “meeting” since 9 am. The plumber that actually came and fixed it from a reputable company said the original plumber must have loosened a valve because water was leaking from the hot water heater. I still have not gotten ahold of a manager and I am reporting this to Better Business Bureau. I just want my money back for this horrible experience. Whatever you do DO NOT use this company unless you want to be charged for nothing.

Consumers beware! Stay away from Roto-Rooter's poor business practices and pure price gouging!! On Saturday 12/11, I called to schedule someone to come out to snake our kitchen sink drain. We were told that someone would be there between 1:30 and 5:30 PM, and that I would receive a text when a technician was on their way. At 2:41 PM, I received a text that prompted me to reply "Y" or "N" to confirm my appointment. At 2:48 PM, I replied "Y" to confirm. Shortly after that, I called and spoke with a dispatcher, who said that someone should be at our house by 5:00 PM. Hours later after no one arrived, I called again and spoke with a supervisor. I was told that the reason for the delay was that since I did not respond to the initial text message within 5 minutes, the technician was sent to another job.
It is abhorrent that a technician did not come to my house within the original 4 hour timeframe because I responded to a text message 7 minutes after it was sent instead of your "5 minute window", which was NEVER communicated to me. A technician did not arrive at my house until almost 9:00 at night. As a mother of 3 children who waiting around all day, I am appalled. Additionally, when the technician arrived at our house, he told us that it would cost over $600!!
We had another company come out today to unclog our drain. Not only did they arrive in the timeframe originally agreed upon, but it took them only 30 minutes to snake the drain and they charged us $225... a fraction of what Roto-Rooter wanted to charge us. It is very clear in dealing with this company that they do not care about their customers. The dispatcher I dealt with on Saturday was so rude, and so was the technician. Save yourself the trouble and go with a different company!

The technician came out and fixed the leak. It was a simple shower head leak for which the technician did not have the parts and charged me 1,200. The technician said he needed to replace shower valve because the newer Delta shower valve has replacement parts that are easy to find instead of Kohler brand. The price was set at 500, then it jumped to 700 because he had to run out and find the part. Finally when the technician returned and informed me he could not find the part he then said he can only change the shower valve which will cost 1200. I believe the Roto Rooter company took advantage of my misfortune and overcharged me. Lesson learned do not call roto rooter. Roto rooter should do the right thing and refund some of the money to me.

In the past, Roto-Rooter has been great. Isaac and Jesus were professional, friendly and got the job done as efficiently as possible. On the other hand, Isabel in booking made four separate reservations--all of which, she cancelled... Actually I didn't receive any notification for one of them. Have they factored in that some people have to take work off to uphold such a fixed appointment? I understand that labor and services are scarce these days, but truly believe they can do a much better job at managing expectations. I would have much rather had her tell me that they were backed up for the next two weeks, but apparently, Roto-Rooter has no respect for the consumer's time. Thank you!

Our hot water heater in the attic busted on October 9th. Roto Rooter was the only plumber we could find on short notice. They knew they had us over a barrel and charged $3400 for a water heater, and had to come back the next day because it wasn't installed correctly, was leaking. I have no problem paying a fair price, but they really took advantage.

This review is for a kitchen sink pipe repair with a huge hole in a metal pipe. I was very happy that Roto Rooter could come out on a Sunday 11-14-21. The pipe was replaced and the tech also replaced the other metal pipes with PVC pipes. Good idea. Picture #1 is a properly seated large rubber gasket and friction cardboard to prevent leakage from the flange from the kitchen strainer. This picture was taken at a friend's home. Picture #2 is what my technician did. The rubber gasket is all warped, and will cause leaks at some point. I called the manager about this on Tuesday and he said if it wasn’t leaking now, it was OK. I disagreed.
I also told him that I was shocked that a plumber said he did not know how to reposition the counter weight for the the spigot retraction. I told him I watched some YouTube videos after the tech left, and that it was simple, just moving a clip and sliding the counter weight wherever you wanted it. I said it was so simple I could do it, even my mother could do it. He said “then why didn’t your mother do it?” Again I told him I did not watch the videos until AFTER the tech left. He then told me that the counter weight wasn’t part of the call so it would have been extra. Of course it would. I didn’t expect not to pay for it. He entirely missed the point that the tech said he “did not know how to.”
The manager was extremely rude and constantly interrupted me until I asked him to stop and listen to what I was saying. I did not curse, yell, or call him names. At first he told me he didn’t want to send another plumber “just for me to ask a lot of questions.” I told him I did not have any questions for the plumber, I just wanted it fixed properly. He then offered to send a master plumber the next morning. Fine. The plumber never showed up. I called that evening and got a very nice man, Jason, who said, “yes, I see the Plumber should have come out.” He said he would call the dispatcher and they would call me back with a time for the next day. I told him I had meetings setup all day on Thurs. but if we could arrange a window of time, I could probably change the time of a meeting. He said he would tell the dispatcher that and they would call me on Wed to arrange it.
I never heard back from them. Today, Thurs., a plumber shows up unannounced at my home. My mother told him I was at a meeting. He said they would reschedule. I have not heard back from them. I see in all the 1 star comments that customers are told to reach out to a company liaison. I am not interested in spending anymore wasted time on this issue. They should be reaching out to me. The 2 good things about this entire situation is that I paid by credit card and can dispute the charge, and not pay the bill and use the money to pay another plumber to fix the shoddy work from rotorooter. The second thing is I have learned more about plumbing than I ever wanted to. The piping under the sink is an easy job. Nothing special. Look at picture #3.
The tech came around 1:00 and left at 5:15. My mother said he was very nice. He gave us a price upfront and kept to that. He removed the old pipes, left for an hour with them to match up for length and the # of pieces needed. Total time for the whole job was 4 HOURS and 15 MINUTES. Incredible! After watching more videos, it should have been about an hour job and another hour to go get parts. I had a small business for 25 years. If any of my employees had treated a customer the way the first manager treated me, they would have been fired on the spot. It would not have been tolerated.
I suggest that anyone thinking of using rotorooter should read the comments on this ConsumerAffairs page, BBB, or Yelp, not the ones on Roto rooter’s website. They are not accredited by the Better Business Bureau and have a D+ rating. My Purpose in writing this long review is to warn others, and to let corporate RR know my experience. When you call RR, they say calls may be recorded. I hope the call with the manager was recorded so RR can listen to it. I taped the call with Jason and have it if needed. Marlton, NJ.

I called Roto Rooter Friday, October 22, 2021. The first guy showed up to rod out my floor drain as I requested because of past flooding in my basement when it rains. He rodded out the floor drain and told me the floor supervisor was on his way with the camera. Floor supervisor shows up with the camera and insisted on e watching as well. He pointed out things in my pipe and also said I would need a back valve flow installed as well.
At a point in filming, he stopped it and showed me what appeared to be a broken pipe, he then went further and found that I already have a back flow valve but he said it was broken because it was in the up position. He then told me I had 30 feet of broken pipe, needed a new back valve flow and a clean out outside. He quoted me $20,000 for the job. He asked me if I wanted to finance it which I was approved for half of the cost. He then told me I would need to have the flooring removed so they could begin the work on October 25th.
Saturday he mysteriously showed up at my house as I had just finished pulling up my flooring in the basement. He told me he couldn’t talk in front of the other tech last night but told me he could save me $3,000 on the job by letting an outside company do the work, he also slashed another $500 off the job as I was seen to have a birthday coming up in the following week as a gift. He told me not to tell anyone of this arrangement. Sunday, we had a horrific rainstorm dumping more than 6 inches of rain in my area. My basement which should have resembled a lake, was bone dry and remained bone dry despite the claim of me having 30 ft of broken pipe.
When he showed up the next morning with the outside res, I informed him of such and told him I was canceling the entire job. What I have since learned is the pipe he showed me on the camera was not my broken pipe, I never needed a clean out (I have no trees near or around me) and the back flow valve was never a factor in this. I now am stuck with having to pay someone to re tile my basement as that job was never needed.

We had an emergency with the failed plastic pipe going into fridge under kitchen sink, and called the Roto-Rooter for help. According for their ads, they have local technicians in our area. However, the person who took our call, was far away from us. At first, the technician promised to come in 45 minutes, then after 1 hour we called again. He said, 45 more minutes starting now. Eventually it took him more than 3 hours to arrive after the first call. All our kitchen, part of living and corridor, as well as the neighbor's apartment downstairs were completely full of water.
By the time the technician arrived, we already managed to shut off the main water supply, so the only thing he did was to cut off the failed water supply to our refrigerator, stating that he will come back the next morning to complete the job, connecting our fridge back to the water supply pipe. He said, some small replacements were needed that he didn't have at the time of service. We paid $373.89 and were promised the job will be finished in a few hours. That technician never returned back, and when we called his number, he never responded. We waited for one more day, then called the company, leaving the message. No response ever. Never went in the crawl space, gave her an estimate of over 9,000.00, said the pipe from the road had to be replaced, and the pitch was wrong! He put the camera down the pipe from all the downspouts that drained to that pipe. When I called to tell him this information, he said he did not want to do business with me…imagine that, he said I was rude and hung up on me.
Another person did hydro jet from the road to the house. This cost over $700.00. I can’t help but think how they were going to replace a pipe that was not the sewer. I refused because it sounded to me like a rip off. Two days later the sink was clogged again. I called them and the "technician" said nothing he could do. I called then a real plumber. Immediately he found the problem (see the picture) and for $500 everything was cleaned and in working order. I complained to Roto Rooter management but they told me they "did the right thing". Can't bend to look under her sink/cabinet. Last night, I got under her cabinet. Noticed the entire garbage disposal was hanging down, plumber's putty rotted out and frame bent. Standing water everywhere. Subfloor, counter cabinet probably ruined-rotted. Most installs automatically come with a one-year standard warranty. That’s a given.
The disposal is under warranty for six years. Badger will come to your house and fix it for the first year if it is a manufacturer defect. We have in WRITING from the manufacturer after seeing the damage that this was negligent install work, and Roto Rooter should cover it. In writing. I have photos that a layman could tell this thing was put in wrong. It has barely been used as my mom has been too ill to cook. When it was used my mom thought the vibrating/shaking was normal. Why? She trusted the Roto Rooter name.
Mike, the installer, was missing a part during installation. My mom is older, and she has had to travel four hours once a week for chemotherapy for sometime and during COVID. Yet, she offered to run to Home Depot for him to get the $15 part during COVID. Mike (the plumber) said no, he could use the old part-from the old 1970s Montgomery Ward disposal. Perhaps, this is part of the issue.
I called Roto-Rooter today to see what they could do. Stevie, the receptionist, told me too bad, the 30-day warranty is up. Wouldn't even hear me out. Essentially said, I'm out of luck unless I want to pay to have it installed again. I'd have to pay to have someone come out and even look at the damage. She said I couldn't even talk to anyone else, but her without being charged. I asked for a manager. Stevie smartly replied, "I'm the manager". There was no reasoning with her. I strongly advise to NEVER hire these guys. They likely did thousands of dollars worth of damage especially if the water got to the subflooring. Yet, I only asked that they come and fix the disposal itself. Stevie shouldn't answer phones. It is blatantly obvious they were negligent, plus we have it is their error in writing from professionals.
I offered to Stevie to get it in writing from another three licensed plumbers that the failure and leak is due to a negligent install. Stevie said it wouldn't matter, Asked condescendingly why my mom didn't call within 30 days? First of all, nowhere on the receipt does it say it was a 30-day warranty. She paid $250 for a garbage disposal INSTALL (another $160 for the disposal) that has a six year warranty. Mike slapped so much plumber's putty on it didn't start leaking immediately. Nonetheless, it's apparent this guy shouldn't be sent out on service calls, period. If we want anything done guess we'll be seeing Larry Hunt (the owner-whom Stevie sneered I'd never get to talk to) in court. And, that’s pathetic. This company is incompetent and ruthless.

I had a drain clog back up that caused the dirt basement to be wet. I called Rotor-Rooter. The guy showed up and instead of open the service port to run the router to unclogged the pipe. He decided to call his company's truck that cost $2500 to drain the wet basement. On top of that he want to charge another $600 for unclog the pipe. And he said that there may be other charge for any pipe issue. So the total charge is at least $3100. We decided to call another company to get a second quote. The company is United Drain, MA. This company came within the hour. They unclog the pipe and all the water in the basement went away after that. The total charge was $365. We were so glad that we didn't use the service of this dishonest company who is out to fill their own pocket.

Went to Roto-Rooter's website and made an online booking for a plumber on their next open date. 7/21/2021 between Noon and 4pm. I waited and at 4:03 they emailed me the following; "We do apologize this window is not available. We are scheduling for TUESDAY 7/27/21 due to the amount of calls we have received prior to your scheduled request. This ticket has been schedule for the first available date on TUES 7/27/21 from 8-12." I called them, waited on the phone for over 45 min, and finally talked to someone. I confirmed the TUES 7/27/21 from 8-12 date appointment. Waited for them and no one showed by 12 (Noon). Called and after about 30 min on hold talked to someone and they said the plumber is running a little behind schedule.
I asked if is going to show up and she said absolutely. 5:30pm and still no call and no plumber ever showed up. I took two days off and waited for thirteen and a half hours for nothing. I called them once again at 5:30. Waited over 25 min to finally talk to someone. I told tell them that the plumber was a no show. She just said that the plumber is running a little behind schedule. Would I want to make another appointment. Not a chance!!!! I asked if I can talk to a manager. She told me no. She had to fill out paperwork and someone will call within a few days. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and I mean ever and I'm 55yrs old.

Kicking myself for not reading all the negative reviews about this company before giving them a call. Needed a plumber to come out and fix a leak in my ceiling. Instead of sending a plumber, they sent the water restoration team, who couldn't do anything to help me because I had an active leak (which I shared with dispatch). Once the company finally sent a plumber out (after I called multiple times), the plumber told me he wasn't able to do anything to stop the leak because it was coming from my upstairs neighbor's unit, which was okay. It wasn't his fault that he wasn't able to stop it. However, the restoration team who had been there previously left fans at my home which they have since tried to charge me $800 for. Leaving fans was ridiculous in the first place since I had an active leak.
I never wanted the fans, never asked for the fans, and when they had me sign documents. They said it was just something saying I wouldn't touch the fans. Never mentioned a cost associated with the fans that they chose to leave there for zero reason. I needed them out as I wouldn't be home and also could not access the room where the fans were with them in there. I had to call three different times for them to finally come and pick up the fans that I didn't want in the first place (even though they told me it was policy for them to come out every day and "check on the fans;" they never actually attempted to come out to check). I absolutely would have used them for restoration services as soon as my neighbor stopped the leak and I needed restoration services, however:
1. I received an exorbitant invoice for something I never asked for in the first place before any repairs even took place without being informed I would be charged.
2. Although the first person to enter my home was wearing a mask and told me it was company policy he do so, the rest of the crew who showed up and dropped off the fans was not masked.
3. The company shared my personal information with a completely different restoration company. It's even on their website that they share your info with third parties, so feel free to check that out. Wish I had seen that sooner.
4. The manager who called me about the invoice issue lectured me, spoke to me as if I was a child, had the nerve to tell me that "I shouldn't just let anyone into my home" (yes, he was talking about his own crew) and that I should really read contracts better. Guess that's my fault for trusting that what Roto Rooter does is above board and trusting what his crew told me when they asked for my signature! I would never speak to someone that way who I wanted to retain as a customer.
5. The entire company is so disorganized. Both plumbing and restoration told me the two sides of the company have nothing to do with each other/can't coordinate scheduling, the manager told me this isn't actually true.

Today is July 15th and my drain is already clogged again. I called to Roto-Rooter to come visit my house again. Tech explained again that my line was clogged and that they do NOT GUARANTEE their work and I have to pay another $1,400 to do the same job they failed to do the first time. I wish I read the reviews here before calling Roto Rooter Boston South for my clogged kitchen drain and leaky toilet. Their technician arrived and said the sink declogging would be $535 whether it took 15 minutes or 2 hours. We declined and went with a local service who was less than half that cost. We did go with Roto Rooter’s quoted high cost for fixing the leaky toilet to save on the $79 fee for them just coming to our house. The service tech diagnosed the problem as a bad flapper. However, upon leaving he noted that there was still a bowl leak?? We went down and flushed the toilet which leaked all over the BR floor - which had never happened before? Their local manager was disinterested in reviewing their tech’s work. So they left us - with a now, non-operating toilet and a big bill. Wow. But in the end, I’m just glad they left!

I had used Roto Rooter multiple times and had good experiences, preferring them to a local plumber for multitude of reasons - but mainly because I thought it was more standardized pricing, and you don't have to deal with bargaining with a plumber, and you know you'll get a quality experience. But I won't ever use them again after my last experience - Got someone to come snake an outdoor small drain clog (it didn't end up needing to be snaked, and they still charged full price, but that's not why I'm writing the review) - the Rotorooter employee shows up and tells me it will be $600 to snake a drain... I told him I wouldn't pay that and he can leave, since RotoRooter just did this indoors for a drain clog and it was ~$250... After he asked how long ago that was and continued to press, he offered to do it for $300 - within 2 minutes of discussion! This is NOT why I liked using RotoRooter and unless they remedy this I will never use them again.

Nobody said this upfront, we found out as the tech is asking me to sign. I will never use this company again! Sure, he fixed the clog in the shower drain and now a big leak in the basement that of course he couldn’t fix, unless we make a new appt and probably pay another $535. What a rip off. We called our own plumber which we should have done to begin with. My hope with this review is that others will now know about the upfront charges.

Had a sewer back up issue and called Roto Rooter. I should have called around first. First person out was very helpful and official looking. Great attitude and pleasant to speak with. Was not able to solve my issue that night and called a supervisor to come out and get to the bottom of things. From there on, it was a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Started out with a lie from a supervisor telling me he spoke to my wife about showing up the following morning. She never once spoke with him so I should have known who I was dealing with at that point. From there on, he said how he was going to do something and then never delivered.
Once the work started, roto rooter was not the ones doing it, instead they hired some of the worst contractors to come out and leave a messy work place of me and the neighbor's yard. Left old sewer boards and concrete wire exposed in the driveway with no intention of making it right. Most of the contractors spoke zero English and were not able to even tell me what they were doing. Different crew every day, again, not roto rooter employees. 8 days later, I just wanted to pay the bill to get it all over with! I will NEVER RECCOMEND this company in San Antonio TX. PLEASE BE AWARE!! DO NOT USE ROTO ROOTER!! THEY ARE SCAMMING HOMEOWNERS!! My son and his fiancé just purchased their first home on Thursday, they noticed the utility sink in the basement was backing up which seemed to look like brown paper towels or cardboard when they would flush the toilets on Saturday, we called Roto Rooter to come out because we assumed the lines were clogged from the material. Roto Rooter advised it would cost $689.00 to snake the line, if they could not get the line unclogged it would be a charge of $200.00. This includes a camera to look at the pipe to make sure nothing else was damaged. The gentleman gave me a discount and charged $500.00 to snake the line, He was able to unclog the pipe.
HERE IS WHERE THE SCAM BEGINS!! The Camera Man “Doug” arrives to use the camera. Immediately on arrival he says to my son, "OH you just bought this house." He forces the camera down the pipe from the inside of the basement. He tells my son he has major problems, "There are rocks coming inside your house through the pipes." I have a recording of the camera and we did not see any rocks whatsoever. He told us the pipes needed to be excavated and replaced. He told my son there was no clean out outside his home so that would need to be installed as well. He quoted my son $8,000.00 to dig up the yard, replace the pipe and install a clean out!!!
Doug told my son he could not stay at his home; he could not run any water at all, or it would cause major issues. My son and his fiancé had not even slept one night in the house yet, they had just purchased their home. I told my son to take the estimate and tell them have a nice day!! We received a second opinion and ROTO ROOTER was totally lying!! There was a clean out right on the outside wall of the home, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the pipe besides it was slightly off which most likely has been that way for 60 years!! The second opinion we received placed a camera down the pipe, the camera went in the pipe very easily.
“Doug” had to force the camera down the pipe and manipulated the camera to remove the ball so it would show there was damage when there was no damage. A day my son and his fiancé should have been happy about purchasing their first home turned into the worse day thinking they just bought a house they could not even use at all because this company wanted to try to get money out of a young couple that just purchased a new home. PLEASE DO NOT GET SCAMMED BY THIS COMPANY. There have been several lawsuits against this company for the same exact thing over the years in different states as well.

I called the GR Roto-Rooter company and was given the option to cable out my plugged sewer line for $400 or to jet it out for $700. I obviously chose to cable. When they came and cabled it out they did not have enough cable - so they told my wife it would cost approximately $200 more to go and get the longer cable or now have them come and jet it out. We had them jet it out (soft clog) and then were charged for both of these even though the cable did not reach out to where the clog was (just over 100'). We were never informed about the length of the cable to make an informed decision.
I called and was put in contact with a person to discuss removing the cable charge from their invoice and he agreed and said that we would be reimbursed. That never happened and after several calling I was told that he was no longer with the company. After I initiated more calls finally the owner returned my call and would not honor his employee's offer to reimburse (he did offer $100.00 cash). It is also obvious to me that he is more motivated by money than doing what is right (reputation) than customer satisfaction. My fiancé and I just bought a new home on April 19th. On the second day of moving in I heard a gurgling coming from shower drain and figured that we would need to get the drains cleared out. The seller disclosed that there was rooting to be done annually due to the InSinkErator (garbage disposal) getting roots in the line. I searched whoever had positive reviews in our area and Roto-Rooter was the first to come up, so I called them. They came right out and suggested that I pay $495 to allow them to go in with a camera, which would show them the precise problem so that they could be sure. I thought it was really expensive, but being that we just moved in, I wanted to make sure we caught any problems before they became bigger problems.
I thought it was probably just the roots noted in the seller’s disclosure. The guy with the camera called in another guy and after about 10 minutes, they told me that my pipe was collapsed and I needed a whole new sewer line put in with a clean out, and to the tune of $9,000. I asked them to show me what they were looking at (never showed me what they saw with the $495 camera job they did. We went to the side of my house and the clearly incompetent tech points to a divot in the dirt and says that that’s where the line is collapsed. I should’ve known right then he was a scam artist because the place in the ground he was referring to is exactly where my oil tank is, and subsequently exactly where I had the soil samples and testing done a couple of weeks before this.
I kept telling them about the roots stated on the disclosure but they blew me off. I then stated I wanted a second opinion because I didn’t have $9k. That’s when he so conveniently whipped out their own financing paperwork. He said it was urgent and had to be done IMMEDIATELY. They were so insistent that I began to consider what would happen if they were right and I was really worried. What did I know? I’m not a plumber.
The next morning they got to work digging up my landscaping. They were incredibly rude for the most part (one guy out of 6 was nice enough) and by the time they finished, they severely damaged my property, landscaping and we now have no curb or sidewalk. Despite them putting on the contract that they would provide backfill cleanup and haul away the debris, there is now giant piles of dirt, pieces of the pipe and pieces of concrete all over my property. When I called to talk to them about it they were incredibly rude and transferred me to voicemail to leave a message. I voiced my concerns and asked for a call back and they haven’t bothered with me at all. I am now seeking an attorney to assist me getting my property repaired. Another plumber said it’s disgusting the way they charged so much and left our property the way that they did.
Hindsight is always 20/20. If you google search Roto Rooter lawsuit you will find that they have a class action lawsuit as well as many others all over the country for their predatory business practices. Many of them stating the insistence of a new sewer pipe installation and further damages to people’s property. I wish I knew then what I know now. I hope that writing this saves someone from making the mistake of trusting them like I did!

Had Roto-Rooter do a replacement sewer line which now I think we did not even need. I think they took advantage of us. Telling us that discounts would not be available if we waited. It cost 12,000 dollars what kind of discounts did we get? After they did the work with new sewer line we had the same back up and they came back and they cleaned the line in side the house. Well maybe the problem was always in side the house and not out in the front yard. They broke my water line which I had to pay and get fixed. They broke my concrete which they said they would fix but then declined. So now I am paying to have my concrete repaired.
The back fill job was just a big mess and that's the way they left it. I made a big mistake with hiring Roto-Rooter. This has been one of the most horrible companies I have ever had to deal with. We were expecting another company to come to our home and Roto-Rooter benefited from the confusion. A confusion that they generated by sending a service to our home that was #1 unrequested and #2 unconfirmed by us. Super rude customer service that decides to cynically judge how do we live in our household (e.g. "the problem is communication between you and your wife", among other similar comments) and make very offensive accusations (e.g. "you asked for a service and now you don't want to pay for it") instead of focusing on our issue and trying to help us. BE AWARE! MAJOR RIP-OFF! Their technicians are a joke and this company is only interested in pulling as much money out of your pocket as possible by making up defects and/or over-exaggerating the problem. We had a fairly simple blockage in the kitchen and called Roto-Rooter since we're both very busy at work and didn't had time to deal with it. We called Roto-Rooter hoping for a fast, fair and flawless service for this simple problem. The website looked professional so we had high expectations. We asked my dad to open the door for the technician.
This technician literally just glanced underneath the sink and with less than 2 minutes into that visit he started saying that we have a grease-trap problem and that we are dealing with illegal plumbing. My dad is 75 years old and not technical at all so you can sell him everything, but he didn't entirely trust the story so he called me at work to share the 'findings' of this so-called technician. When I enlightened them that our system did not have a grease-trap and that 'illegal' plumbing doesn't exist, unless you're hiding an illegal substance in the pipes, the story quickly changed into a blockage with plumbing but stayed with the 'illegal plumbing' story.
It would cost us $435.00 USD + tax for the blockage and since we are dealing with 'illegal' plumbing we needed a $300.00 USD/hour + tax (!) licensed plumber to remove and reinstall the plumbing. The technician who was so 'educated' on the illegal plumbing situation that he was not allowed to touch it. We were looking at a $800-$1000 dollar bill for the service of these scamming charlatans. I told them to get off my property and take their scamming and overpriced business elsewhere.
I then called a local plumber, who did not get his 300 dollar/hour plumbing license through Harvard or Yale, and it took the man less than 5 minutes to unclog our plumbing with a garden hose and a pipe bladder and charged us 80 dollars to cover the call-out cost. The business model of Roto-Rooter is quite simple; clogged pipes are a disaster! It is gross and it limits you to do the every day chores which is an absolute pain, especially with children. They take advantage of that situation and especially of (elderly) people who have no idea. Let it be clear; $435 dollar for 10-15 minutes of work is a RIP-OFF! $300 dollar per hour for a plumber is outrageous and therefore an even bigger RIP-OFF!!! Stay far far away from this company would be my honest advice!

After reading several reviews and all the stories sounding so similar to my own I now regret having done business with this organization. Considering they have been around so long and are nationwide I thought they were a trustful, reputable company but after our experience and reading other reviews, I don't feel they are. The day before Easter our bathroom started to back up into our tub, waited until Tuesday to call as we tried to clear issue on our own first. They sent a female tech out in Wednesday to "diagnose" issue and verbally told us to auger/snake out line. We were looking at about $660, and naturally she didn't provide that service so had to wait another day for another guy to come out. Received no written quote (big mistake).
The next day a Male tech came to house, ended up taking toilet off and running snake through pipes to clear clog, also had to put in shut off valve under sink because evidently the old one wasn't working and water supply could have been shut off at the main, but would not do it that way. Said HAD to replace shut off valve to continue so by time the day was done it cost a little over $1000 for job we were verbally quoted at $660, we weren't happy with that but happy to be able to use the toilet and shower as we only have one in our home. Also were told had a 6 month warranty on line and 1 year in valve. This was on a Thursday and by Sunday, a mere 3 days later we were backing up again and not flowing properly!
Called on Monday and they said they would send out a tech Tuesday. After waiting until 1 pm we called back and nope no tech was scheduled to come out until Wednesday! So guy shows up Wednesday and is talking his sale pitch informing us that today will be free of charge due to warranty but if problem wasn't solved and we had recurring issues we would have to have them run a camera down the line. Starting cost if that is $300 and would run more depending on how far they had to dive in to diagnose, then next step would be jetting which would cost upwards of $1600! So we should also schedule the camera inspection today to waive another service fee or take our chances because their 6 mo warranty is ** and only covers 1 return visit free of charge and since we used that we have no warranty now!?! Needless to say we took our chances, if we have issues in the future we will call a local plumber and go from there!
I feel they really didn't do the job properly the first time and that their 6 mo warranty is **, they should inform the customer at time of service it is 6 mo or 1 visit, whichever comes first! I am sad that a company that has been around for so long have such poor business practices and take advantage of people and just feel that people should know, because had I had properly reviewed them I would not have chosen this company! The techs that were at the house were nice and polite, etc. except when they were told we would not be scheduling the camera. He seemed to get aggravated and a little loud but feel after the money that was paid our issue should have been resolved!

Do not use this company. They are predatory and will take advantage of you. My insurance company advise against this company. When I first called for service, I was told that no one was available to complete the work. Then after learning I had insurance a random employee showed up for a estimate. He told me the price would be 3k. After my insurance company advised me to get that price in writing 7 employees told me they could not provide me a price because of the system they use. It took about a week of calling around to finally hear a 6.5k bill.
The workers ripped off my basement trim without precutting the sealed trim and ripped the drywall. I had to pay a contractor to repair their work. I also paid 2.5k for a sump pump that did most of the drainage. The fine print of the contract also-charges almost 10 dollars for disposable boots and 7 dollars for per pair of disposable gloves that none of the employees used. Multiply that by 7 employees who came to the house. The employees who came would not let me read the electronic paperwork but just wanted me to sign. When my wife and I questioned the paperwork the employee was very hostile and aggressive. My insurance company advised me to never tell these predatory companies that you have insurance because they will suck you dry.

I contacted Roto-Rooter to fix the issue related to water coming out of sump pump and sitting near the house and same water going inside ground and again recycled by sump pump. I had put long flex pipe which was throwing water away from house. But to make it permanent fix, I called Roto-Rooter. They dig the line near house (not away from the house) and put pipe, thinking it will solve the issue. I paid $6000 for that work. They made it worse. Water started flowing out from five different places from the ground like fountain. I called them, they visited to check and they said they will dig longer line in another direction and wants me to pay another $7000. Since I already paid $6000 and issue was not fix.
I called them again, they didn't came. On the call, I asked them to come and revert the way it was since backyard was full of water coming our of ground from various places. They said they cannot. I had to fix their work by cutting line coming out of sump pump, connecting with multiple flex pipes and make water flow away from the house that night in the middle of heavy rain. I talked with excavation manager that either I am entitled to refund or I will pay additional $3000 to fix the issue. They denied both options. I am hereby lodging complaint and wanted to show my high disappointment.

Hired Roto rooter to open a possible drain pipe. They did not succeed. Plus they got a piece of equipment stuck in pipe. Charged almost $800 and left. I hired a local part time plumber for $150 and he got the piece of drain snake that was stuck out. Then put in an ordinary snake tool and seems to have uncloged the pipe. Will never get a big company again. The price is way too high.

Updated on 04/08/2021: I wanted to add to my original review the outcome of my dealings with this company. The only resolution they offered was a 1/2 price discount. They continued to refuse to honor their guarantee. Today I had 2 plumbers from a family owned company who spent more than 40 minutes addressing the problem. They snaked from outside as well as inside to clean the pipes.
I could hear the electric snake they used both inside and out. It is a sound you can't miss this was not done by Roto Rooter. I had friends here that day that can verify that they spent no more than 15 minutes here and never used an electric snake. They cleared the immediate clog at the base of the trap and that was it, they never bothered to go any further to find and clear the whole problem like these guys did today. Oh and they charged 1/2 the price that Roto Rooter did. I will never use Roto Rooter again. I would suggest you patronize your local plumbers. Family owned businesses like the one I had here today want to keep its customers and go out of the way to do a good job so that you remain a loyal and happy customer.
Original Review: I used Roto-Rooter in October 2021 for my bathroom sink and Tub that were not draining properly. This had been happening for a while but I didn't call until I had waste backup into the tub. All they did was clear the trap. It took less than 20 min from the time they walked in the door including paperwork and the charge was $488.00. I was shocked and I questioned "that's it? You're not going to check or snake the line to make sure you cleared the problem not just the outside catch." The answer was, "It's flowing fine now and you have a 6 month guarantee. If it happens again we will take care of it."
Well it happened again slowly as it did before. The sink drains were slowing and the tub took 15 minutes to drain after a shower. This time I didn't wait for the waste to backup before calling. The tech walked in and I told him I was having the same problem and he asked if the waste backed up into the tub and I told him not yet. Without doing anything or looking at anything he said, "OH then it's a different problem," which it wasn't but he was insistent. They had no intention of honoring the 6 month guarantee.
He stepped outside to call the boss and came back in and said, "If you had called in a few weeks after we were here (remember I had a 6 month guarantee) then it could be the same problem," but as far as they were concerned they wouldn't honor the guarantee because after doing nothing but walking in the door they had already decided not to and just kept saying it's not the same problem, yet they offered to do what they had done before for 1/2 price. What a joke. I refused the 1/2 price offer and will now call a local plumber who I believe will take more pride in his work than this company does. I will never use them again and would never recommend them to anyone. BUYER BEWARE.

I called Roto-Rooters to come out and fix my tub that was leaking. The guy came out looked at the tub and told me they needed valve stems which I already knew and stated to the reps when I called for them to come and out and fix my tub. He was at my house for only a few minutes. He charged me $110 for what he claimed was a "diagnostic" fee. Then he said to replace the valve stems it would cost $660. Are you serious?? Valve stems and knobs cost at most $40-$50 for a set.
He didn't fix anything and didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, so I don't know how in the world he diagnosed something I called them for. I called the company back to state that I was unsatisfied with being charged $110 for nothing and they sent me over to the manager Mark. He has not returned any of my calls and I have called him for a week straight leaving multiple messages. What is even more frustrating is the company reps told me that I should expect his call, and I should not have been charged for a "diagnostic" fee and should receive a refund. Still no call from the manager two weeks later. So if you want to be scammed out of money for no services performed this is the perfect company for you.

HUGE SCAM. They were on-time and super courteous, but they tried very hard to scam me. I paid twice what I should have to have a drain unclogged and they convinced me that I needed a video inspection of my drains and charged me twice what I would have paid otherwise. They spent about 4 HOURS working on my drains and concluded that I “had 1 week before my cast iron pipes collapsed” and the the situation was “bad...very bad”. He attempted to show me crack in my pipes, knowing very well that the lighting was too low to see anything clearly and that I was unfamiliar with the normal changes that I was "seeing” and told me that I need to have my patio ripped up and my drain pipe lined.
The estimate...$18,500!! I told him this was not going to work and I was checking on other companies for a better estimate and he came down to $16,850. Lol. This guy!! I said “ok” and that I would continue to search for an alternative and would get back to him if I couldn't find a better price. I found an amazing plumber with over 35 years experience to come and do a video inspection. Before he even looked at the pipes he told me what I had likely experienced with Roto-Rooter and he was spot on. He walked me through every inch of my drains with adequate lighting, and explained that my pipes were perfectly fine and would last another lifetime...and charged me half the price. Roto-rooter almost got me for $18k. Lol. Incredibly shameful practice. Never again. They were super nice, though. Super nice con-artists.

They charge $194 per hour (no joke) for work. Office staff rude. I called another plumber for same quote. They gasped when I told them the hourly rate that these guys use. The plumber I called only charges $79 for the service call, quotes the job after inspection, gives a bid quote to do the entire job, credits the invoice for the $79 paid and THEN BILLS for payment. Not Roto-Rooter. They quoted me by the hour w/ a minimum to job of 3 which would have been around $600 bucks (not guaranteeing that it wouldn't take longer) and they wanted payment upfront. Unbelievable.
I'm not sure what has happened to this company over the years but I'll never use them again nor will I refer them to anyone. They say that customer satisfaction is their #1 but I think I need to make a call to corporate on this one. This company picks and chooses who they will do business with. Zero humility. Although the plumber was very nice, he did not bring any kind of equipment into our house other than his own eyes. He even said that he thought the toilets were our problem but not 100% for sure. He told my wife that they would call to collect the $57 over the phone as he left. Then he put in a ticket for $175.
Again, she has been called no less than 6 times today and during one of the calls told that notes would be put on the account that a manager would call Monday to go over the charges. Do not use them, the plumbers who do the work are scamsters and will lie about the job so as to charge you the most, they do not even do the job properly so they can charge you for a second visit. We have apartments in Columbus that were blocked and backed up, called Roto Rooter and scheduled a call out, 1) They never came so I had to call the next day and schedule another call out. 2) When the first guy came out he went to the most expensive option (water Jetting). $991 later and "cleared the drains" one of our tenants told him about the mess inside, but he did not go in and check, instead he left. The Tenant told me that the drains were still blocked, so I called Roto Rooter, was told it's under warranty, he came out again and then charged me $400 to clear the drain that should have been completed in the first time.
I rang head office and spoke to a Manager Rob, who assured me that he would resolve it and raise a credit for me, told me he would call me back, which he has not. I rang 3 times and left messages but they will not return my calls, so I am never going to use Roto Rooter for any of my 23 buildings ever again, and highly recommend other people to go else where also. Technician came out to diagnose why I had water coming out from my bathroom sink vanity. He told me it was the trap that needed to be replaced and told me the cost would be $79.00. He then said the problem may be due to the pipes being corroded but then discovered that the drain had been clogged only after I asked him a second time if this was indeed the problem. He then said the job would be $250 so I asked if I could use a $60.00 off coupon on this price and was told I could not since job was really $510 according to him and I was already getting and discount.
They try to tell you it is another problem which would be more expensive when the actual problem is less expensive and then disallow you from using their coupon by telling you that you are already being charged at a discounted cost. They should give you the true/actual cost upfront and specify on their coupons what the dollar amount for a job can the coupon be used on or else do not create coupons if the customer can not use them. I would not use them again for my plumbing needs nor would I recommend them to anyone.

After trying to unclog my toilet on my own using every trick in the book, I finally gave in and called Roto-Rooter. Considering they're a national brand, I some high hopes in terms of pricing. It was a simple clogged toilet, right? Wrong. I should have known they'd price-gouge when the representative who took my call couldn't even give me a ballpark figure. The technician showed up within the four-hour timeframe I was given. As soon as he walked in and asked about the problem, he said there were three prices: 1. $310 just to auger, 2. $510 to auger and remove the toilet if necessary, 3. $810 for auger, toilet removal, and running a camera, if necessary. Holy smokes!!! If the rep on the phone would have told me it would be a minimum of $310, I would have looked for another company. The technician was nice and augered the toilet four times. It drained a little better (versus not at all), but he said the clog definitely wasn't gone.
I didn't want to pay more, as he said he went in the full length of his auger, 6ft, so what he originally said was stuck in the actual toilet had now been pushed in further yet still not removed. He spent a total of 45 minutes at my house, and when I asked if there was now potential for a main line clog, he said "Yeah, it's a good possibility." I understand the technician doesn't set the prices, but good Lord, my issue wasn't fixed and has potential to cost even more than the $310 I already paid. He did end up charging me "only" $275, and that was because he said if they needed to come back within the one-week residential guarantee and I would remove the toilet myself, he'd give me a credit for doing that on my own. So, I'm out $275 for 45 minutes of work, toilet still isn't draining, and there's potential for it to be even more costly if the clog blocks a main line. I will NEVER use this company again.

Unfortunately, I made an appointment with one of them and cancelled it when I was told Roto-Rooter would be there in 2 hours. I am remodeling my basement and wanted to get the job finished.
When Roto-Rooter arrived he said the price was $620.00 for each job!! $1240.00 total. I immediately stated that is way, way too much. He stated he would cut the price of the basement drain so I could continue with my remodel. We ended up paying $400.00! He was there for about an hour, $400.00 per hour! When he was finished I was told that I probably should just replace the drain pipe anyway because it wasn't running smoothly. If I would have had both drains opened at the quoted price I would have paid $1240.00 for approximately one, at most 2 hours work. If you can afford to pay between $600.00 to $1200.00 per hour, they are the company for you. I feel they are dishonest by not giving the "company price" over the phone. I will never use them again. I also belong to a Union of 330,000 members and they will be copied on this email.

Do NOT use this company. Their minimum service charge is $445, and we were not informed of this prior to a TEN MINUTE service. The technician did not quote us the price per their alleged protocol. This was confusing to me as we had called a tech out previously and paid only $65. Their customer service representative then engaged in a yelling match with me over the phone when I called to ask about the discrepancy, and to ask about settling on a more reasonable amount. She treated me with barely veiled disgust. Unless you're very wealthy, or enjoy being treated this way - GO ELSEWHERE.

We had a clogged kitchen sink. My 80 year old grandmother meet the guy at the door. He had her sign a contract BEFORE he investigated the issue. We ended up with a leak in the basement, a big mess, and I still have open spaces in my ceiling where they were supposed to replace the tiles that I am still waiting for. All this for $1000.00 just to be told by other plumbers we basically got ripped off as they only ended up replacing one pipe and the sink is still not fully unclogged. Both my neighbors ordered Roto Rooter drainage-clear services from "Down Spouts to Pop-ups" outside the house. I called for an appointment explicitly asking for the same service that my neighbors had received. The service guy arrived and told me the service costs about $1500 right from the get-go prior to any inspection. When I asked why is this service cost so much, he said he would clear the pipe, and if there were any additional problems, find the problem and fix it. There are five drainage lines, one of the lines they said they couldn't clear it and couldn't locate the pop-up. As a result the water leaked in the middle of my yard. I was told to call a landscaping company to fix it, as they not do that. Needless to say, I was not very happy with how they acted on their "Find the problem and fix" promise, but I didn't say anything at the time.
After they left, my neighbor went over to look at the problem area, and we noticed that roto rooter charged me 3 times more than what my neighbors had paid in addition to not fixing the issue. I was furious and canceled the check. I called the company complaining about this issue, the manager (Aaron) told me I got different service as well as a different technician. The manager told me the technician working for me was Eric and not Joe, citing this as well as the different service as cause for the 3x price difference. Upon asking what service my neighbor got versus what I got, I was told I received the Hyrdo-Jet service, while my neighbors only received the cable service. I called my neighbor to confirm if this was true, and they told me that they received the hydrojet service as well! This service company is in Livonia Michigan.

The septic tank company didn't touch the pipes. Then they said I had to only use scott brand toilet paper. Then they came out with a camera and said my pipes were ok but one pipe was on a weird angle and they needed to tear up underground and under my bathroom and replace the pipes..even though the pipes are good and have been at that angle since the house was built 50 years ago. They were supposed to send a proposal..they never did. I have left several messages and received no response from any managers. Also the service people are rude.

Suspicious, Scam, Deceiving Prices & Service. They are the biggest plumbing company in US & Canada and they use this to charge Outrageous estimates. Do NOT consider Roto-Rooter. You will be wasting time, stress and money. Roto will charge the most they can for a job if they think they can get away with it. And for me, they did. I have a decent income, own my own business and would never complain about a few dollars. But we know scam and deception when we see one. These people were suspicious from the start. Mike W the manager does nothing to give customers satisfaction, and justice.
There was a Class Action Lawsuit against Roto Rooter back in the 2000s because this company consistently charged Americans for parts they could not explain. Now they are doing the same thing, except for service. Their excuse: If you signed the contract, you agree and have to pay that amount. You agreed to it. Even when they cannot explain what the charge was for. Roto, this is why I will never recommend you guys: you charge whatever you want for service and do not have an itemized way to charge customers. You guys charged me $440 for 30 minutes of labor and a part that cost less than $70. Being young and a minority, you guys took advantage and cheated us using this opportunity.
Technician Bobby charged us $440 dollars to simply replace an Old pressure reducing valve that took no more than 30 min, parts and fees/parts being less than $100. That means we were charged over $300 for 30 min labor. Bobby also lied in our faces when he told us we were charged $150/hour since the moment he arrived to when he left was 2 hours, he used this as his excuse..which was a complete lie, Roto does not charge by the Hour rates! There were No itemization on receipts, no explanation from Bobby the technician on how he pulled out his number. And no explanation from Mike the manager. This was with Roto Rooter Greensboro NC.

Beginning of the year, there was an overflow. Roto Rooter came out and unclogged the pipe after they did a VIDEO. "WE NEVER RECEIVED ANY VIDEO THAT THEY SAID THEY DID". They told us that they clean-up the area after the work is done. When the work was finished, they left the mess of the Overflow and when we asked when they would clean it up, they said, "Oh we don't do that"....
At this point, we had to do something, after he charged us $380 for the job. The man said he would call someone out, who we thought was part of the the company in some way...They put us in a position where we were forced to have this mess cleaned up. The man asked us for $1200 to begin with....We ended up paying him $900 because he would not do it for less and the house we were renting had to be cleaned-up immediately.
This message is for everyone to know is that this company are liars and they leave you with a situation that you are stuck with and no one to talk to about their misrepresenting what they do....They just lie to get work! 2 weeks later we received a call from the plumber himself telling us that in order to do the final repair of the job it would cost us $13,000. Can you believe this? People be aware of them....

Most incapable technician I've seen in a while... The technician didn't even know how to do the most basics - couldn't find the main pipes of our drain - which every human being without technical background should be able to see with their eyes. Then they'd quote you a way-above-market price (2x) for a simple 'diagnostic' session. That's not even the 'fixing', only the 'diagnostic'. Lol.
The one star was for their customer service and dispatch teams, which tried to work hard to cover for the mess their technicians made. It wasn't easy for them. They did not understand that for a plumbing company like this, technical capability was the core to their long term success if they even cared to stay in business. However, Roto-Rooter was the one company that failed to understand what mattered to their company and their industry. Train your technicians to FIX problems not to create more.

This is by far the worst place I have ever dealt with. I had called to ask if someone was available for a same day appointment because my son had flushed a shampoo bottle down the toilet and it got stuck in out pipes. I was assured it was something they could deal with that and and therefore called off of work to wait for them to come out.
I waited two hours past the promised appointment slot before calling to find out what was going on. I was told the person was caught up on another job and we may need to reschedule! When I said that that was no possible because I had to work the rest of the week and had already called off that day because they said they could get someone out to me. Finally the man named Scott called back an hour later to tell me the technician could not come out and we would have to reschedule I was livid. I made an appointment for Sunday and was assured I would be the first customer serviced.
The next day I called to speak with the supervisor over what I believe is totally unprofessional behavior. After waiting 20 mins for someone to answer the phone I had to hang up and get to work. I then throughout the day revived several calls from the supervisor named Victoria informing me someone was in my area and wanted to know if he could come out and work. Since I am at work right am not able to take her calls. I called when I got off and was told the supervisor had went home for the day.
On Sunday, the day of the reschedule appointment I waited another two hours before calling to find out what was going on! It was then that I learned that my appointment had been canceled. The supervisor named Victoria cancelled my appointment. This place is full of incompetent people, why on earth would you cancel and appointment without confirmation from the client? Is this how you treat essential workers during the time of a global pandemic? Not everyone gets to sit at home making phones calls some of us have to go out to work. Unacceptable.

I own a rental property in Oxford PA which developed a slow draining toilet. I went to the house to try to unblock the toilet but couldn't fix it. However, I noticed that the downstairs toilet was working fine which made me think that either the toilet was blocked or there was a some blockage further down the drain. I mentioned it to the 1st plumber I contacted who was unable to fix the problem due to a lack of proper tools. He still charged me $153.50 and recommended that I contact Roto-Rooter and I did, which was a mistake. Although I mentioned (over the phone as I couldn't go to house at that point) to the Roto-Rooter technician that it is very likely a blockage between the two toilets he wasted 2 hours cleaning the water ports around the seat of the toilet pretending that the toilet wasn't flushing hard enough. Of course, that didn't help.
Over the phone, he suggested that we change the toilet for the extravagant cost of $600. Knowing that I can buy a toilet for $150 and change it in 1/2 hour I declined that ridiculous solution. On top of that, I knew that it wasn't the toilet. Roto-Rooter still charged me $245 for that visit and I still had a blocked drain. So, I contacted another company specializing in drainage solutions. They came all the way from Havre de Grace, MD, diagnosed the problem with a camera and fix it by running a heavy-duty auger all the way down past the downstairs toilet. That cost me another $385 but the problem is now fixed.
Had I listened to Roto-Rooter, I would have changed the toilet for $600 (after the 1st visit of $245) which wouldn't have solved the problem, and then they would have had to come back to run the auger for $690 (yes, that's what I was quoted). This is typical of these contractors' franchises who are pushing sales as much as possible. I would recommend staying away for doing any business with them.

If you don't want to read a long review about how awful this company is, please take away this key point: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Period. My fiancé's and my basement had some kind of water leak late one night which resulted in puddles of water that eventually seeped under parts the laminate flooring. We called Roto-Rooter specifically to remove the water from under the flooring, no other reason. They gave us a quote for $4025-$6775 depending on the work that was actually done. Nowhere on the quote did it say the scope of the work that would be done.
This quote is the only document my fiancé signed from this company. So they get to work "extracting water," ripping up our flooring, and setting up their drying equipment that they said would only be left at our house for 3 days. During all this work, my fiancé told one of the techs that insurance would be helping out, and the tech responded by saying "Oh this is about to go WAY up." After 5 days of not hearing from or seeing anybody from the company, we called to ask them to remove their equipment from our house. After the equipment was FINALLY removed, we called to get an exact amount owed so that we could get our finances in order. The guy on the phone told us it would be over $13,000. DOUBLE the high end of the initial quote.
When I called to question this, they said that somebody had been by our house every day to check on the equipment (lie) and that they had our initials on documents stating each time a tech came to check on it (also lie). They also said that the extra cost was for them ripping up our flooring (which they didn't even complete) because they weren't aware at the beginning that water was under the floor (LIE because that was the ONLY reason we called them). Whenever they found out we have cameras around our entire property, they backtracked.
They brought over all of the documents from the project, including an itemized invoice for about $10,500, BUT the tech who brought the documents to our house said they would be willing to honor the high end of the original quote ($6775). We thanked him for the documents and got to work going through every last one of them. What we found was 1. On the invoice for $10,500 they were trying to charge us for things that they had never done (things that we have photo and video evidence they had never done).
2. They had documents with 36 different time stamps on different dates that a tech allegedly came to our house to check the equipment and documented various pieces of data regarding the equipment and the job itself (only 7 of those timestamps were accurate, and that was only because they were the times they were setting up equipment - we have video evidence they weren't at our house during any of the other 29 timestamps they have), and most importantly 3. THEY FORGED MY FIANCÉ'S SIGNATURE AND INITIALS ON ALL DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THE JOB, including a direct payment authorization saying our insurance company should pay them directly (didn't happen thank goodness), the work order to start the project, and literally every single document they had for the job besides the original quote.
Neither of us had seen any of these documents prior to work being started or at any point during the project UNTIL the tech brought them to our house AFTER they got all of the equipment out. The best part of all is that my fiancé's name starts with an R, but they forged all the signatures and initials starting with a W because they apparently misheard my fiancé's name when he told it to them on the first day. When we confronted them about the forgery, they said "we aren't allowed to do that." Yeah no duh you aren't allowed to do something that is ILLEGAL. That doesn't change the fact that it happened.
They also said "everyone knows when you Docu-Sign it looks different from your regular signature." Yeah that may be the case but 1. Nobody from their company presented their iPad/tablet/whatever we were supposed to docu-sign these documents on to either of us and 2. THEY SIGNED THE WRONG NAME AND WRONG INITIALS EVERY TIME. They also said "well we emailed all of these documents to you so you had them the whole time." Yeah no they sent them all to a WRONG email address belonging to neither of us and not even close to either of our email addresses.
If we had read reviews on this company beforehand we would have never gone with them for this project. Unfortunately, it was an emergency so we did not have time to wait around. This ended up costing way more than it should have and they lied to us SO many times even after we had all the evidence against them and knew they were lying and told them we knew they were lying. Never ever use Roto-Rooter for anything. You won't regret taking my advice.

Thursday 5/14, woke up on a rainy, gloomy morning, flushed the toilet and that was the last flush. The handle went limp. Took the tank cover off and the water gradually ran down to the level of an inch, inch and 1/2 and stayed there. I could see the various rubber units weren't functioning properly. The toilet's 17 years old. I called Roto Rooter and they said there was no service call charge and he would give me an estimate when he arrived. That's important to point out because after what happened to me, the way Roto Rooter operates, I highly believed they would have asked for a service charge. So, when he told me that he was going to have to replace all the rubber units in the tank, FOR $495.00, I was shocked, YES, I COULD HAVE, SHOULD HAVE SAID NO.
I expressed my shock to the tech and asked was he kidding!? He said no, we have flat rates. Inspite of myself I said go ahead. I had buzzed him in at 9:44am by 10:30am he was finished and walking out the door. 45 minutes! Not 45 minutes of work, within that 45 minutes I had buzzed him in, he took a look at the situation, he got the OK, went back to the truck for parts, returned, completed the repair, wrote the invoice, swiped my card and was on his way. So actual labor was probably more like 1/2 hour, maybe 20 minutes. The invoice said $300 Labor! That's $300 for less than 1/2 hour labor. And $195 Parts.
That expert technician look at my problem and KNEW it would only take him 1/2 hour or less yet quoted me that service/repair charge of $495. Mind you at the time, I didn't know he'd only spend 1/2 hr. I complained and someone called me back on Sunday 5/17 and basically said, "We're not the cheapest service out here" and that I agreed to it and the job was done. Interpret all this however you like. We had Roto-Rooter come to repair our water heater which had stopped working the day before. Upon arriving, they said that the pilot light had merely gone out, speculating that perhaps the wind snuffed it out, and that the water heater was in good condition for its age (15 years old) and should be fine for another year at least. The pilot light went out again not even two days later. They apparently had misdiagnosed the issue so we were once again without hot water, yet charged an astounding $494.00 despite them not being here more than 45 minutes, not having to replace any parts, not even including a warranty, and arriving very late (estimated at coming between 8:00 am-12:00 pm, but arriving at 3:00 pm). The fee came from an initial charge of $169.00 just for a trip charge, but $325.00 additionally for "labor to light pilot and check operations," with the latter not being done since the water heater was clearly broken.
To Roto-Rooter's credit though, and why they get two stars instead of one, they had told us over the phone that the trip fee would be waived if a repair was done. After finishing though, the workers had said this wasn't true. However, customer service checked their phone records, and after initially refusing to refund us the trip fee, confirmed our claim and gave us back the $169.
We then had to shop for a new water heater. The pilot light had not gone out for many, many years before this, so the water heater was clearly at its end if the pilot light was going out repeatedly. Another plumber which we ended up using for this, Mr. Rooter Plumbing, said they would have charged $199 for a pilot light repair after waiving their trip fee. And I'm assuming it would be for a repair that actually lasted for a reasonable length of time. Upon contacting Roto-Rooter after all of this, they said there was nothing they could do about basically taking hundreds of dollars from me for turning on a pilot light for less than two days and misdiagnosing our water heater's condition. We will not be using them again.

Roto Rooter was the 3rd plumping company that I contacted about the issue and concerns I was having and I am so glad I chose them over the other companies. From start to finish they took excellent care of me and my home and help fix my issue promptly.
My first encounter was with one of their Techs/plumber whom name I believe was Alonzo. He was very informative and professional. He progressed quickly to get their company excavation specialist out to see me the same day to estimate the work I needed done. His name was John and he was the best! He was so helpful and informative. He even gave me the information I needed to give to my insurance company. He constantly checked in with me during the process to make sure I was ok and had the resources I needed.
I also cannot forget the actual Plumber who had to do all of the major labor work to fix my pipes. Antonio and Lorenzo were great. Very disappointed that a company that has been around for so long only requires the bare minimal to be done, instead of removing the roots which caused the problem!

I called for a Kitchen sink clog. I asked what the price would be and they stated they could not tell me and that only a technician could estimate that. They said there would be a $149 trip charge that would be deducted if I had the work done. When the technician arrived he immediately wrote up an estimate. $655 to unclog it. I told him he was nuts. He told me this rate was set by Roto Rooter corporate and he had no control over it. He than showed me his price sheet for each specific job. If he has this sheet so should the guy on the phone. When you have already agreed to a trip charge of $149 you are just being held hostage for the work. Tech was at my home for 70 minutes. I call Roto Rooter for a backed up sewer line going to the street at a house that I rent to tenants. When I called I asked for an approximate cost to clean the line. I was told that they could not give that information over the phone. I asked again for a worst case scenario. Again they said they could not provide any pricing over the phone. They said I would have to wait for the technician to give me any pricing to clear the sewer line. When the technician came he pulled out a fixed cost sheet and informed me it would be $919.00. That was three times what a normal plumber charges to clear a sewer line less than 100 feet to the street’s main city sewer line. That is a ROTO RIPOFF.

The toilet bowls at our home weren't flowing well so my wife reached out to RR. The plumber (who was courteous and nice) used the auger and left after being paid. However after he left we noticed that all the toilets had black marks which we realized were scratch marks on the surface of the bowl. Thereafter, within two days, the flow started getting blocked again.
When my wife reached out to give feedback, it took 3 weeks from the corporate office to reach the franchise office. And then also it required multiple reminders to get them to contact me. If that was not enough the behavior and the attitude of the lady (I don't want to name her) called from Roto-Rooter Allentown, PA franchise and was absolutely impolite, discourteous and downright haughty and unfriendly. Her attitude was like she was being bothered by my email followup. Her primary intent was to tell me that her plumber said the marks were there earlier.
This was bizarre as the the plumber did not point out the marks to my wife (coz they were never there) at the time of service. This lady rudely told me that it was over from their side and my wife could do whatever she wanted. When reminded about the water flow problem in the toilet, she said she would see but we have never heard back from her. Her intent throughout was to negate whatever my wife had to say, in a very condescending manner and just wanted to hang up.
As a client I just want to move on with this bad experience but want to warn people to use Roto-Rooter at their own risk because Roto-Rooter Corporate washes their hands off saying they cannot do anything with a franchise - which means that there is no ownership even though they are lending their name. For me, quality service is as important as the attitude and Roto-Rooter failed big time on both.

Please note, the service that was provided was good. I feel a bit ignorant admitting fault on this but still wanted to put this review out on the customer experience I had. The plumber was great, professional and friendly, but I had water damage and he recommended the cleanup crew. The water damage consultant introduced himself as a manager. He repeatedly said he sees this all the time and my homeowners insurance will, not may, WILL cover the cost of clean up and then he explained why. At the end of our conversation he pulled up a tablet with a signature line saying, "Please sign that I was here and took pictures," and this will all be submitted to my insurance company.
He asked me to start the claim as he was taking pictures. And that was all. Shame on me for not asking the question -- what if my insurance doesn’t cover it? It was $3000!!! I was shocked!!! I didn’t see any paperwork prior to the service provided that that was the cost. I thought maybe $800. WOW. Never again will I use Roto-Rooter as I just feel ripped up.

I have retained the services of Roto Rooter of Tulsa ("RRT") on eight (8) plus occasions for the same issue regarding our laundry waste return spewing water/gunk into our garage (wherein the return is located); these visits occurring over a four (4) plus year period. In total, these visits and alleged fixes have cost me nearly $1,500 with this issue has no end in sight.
a) RRT employs subpar plumbing professionals, incapable of accurately diagnosing/fixing a plumbing issue and are not willing to go the extra mile (at no time did any technician deem it necessary to inspect the physical pipes and check the plumbing accessible by way of our crawl space) OR
b) RRT has intentionally and knowingly not fully fixed this issue, in an effort to ensure follow-up business because they found a "sucker" (NOTE: I am in no way making this claim at present; however, when reviewing the facts of this issue, I feel this possibility certainly warrants further consideration.).
To-wit: when I spoke to a manager at RRT on Wednesday, 11/20/19, I was reassured technicians would be out the following day, at no cost. The next afternoon upon tech. arrival, I was required to call the same manager yet again to confirm no cost due after being told I would be required to pay X dollars. Afterwards, the techs located the heretofore unknown location of the main-line clean out; I was then told they were replacing the lid of the clean-out. At no time was I given an option of "lids," they just used the more expensive option and told me it was definitely the best choice after the fact. This was NOT a covered cost of this visit, I was told. A minimal cost to be sure, but it just adds to the continuing tally paid by me in favor of RRT!
After cleaning the main-line (which had no relation to the laundry back up, per the techs), a snake was used to clean out the why line from the laundry return in the garage (where the backup occurred) out through and to the main-line. I was told the issue should be quelled for the time being (and it was implied that I SHOULD have been charged for the snaking of that particular drain; I guess I am just lucky! Free plumbing!). This was Wednesday, 11/20. The following Sunday, 11/24, I ran one load of laundry, and the garage was once again flooded. Not one thing has been fixed (garage has flooded each and every single time the wash has been run since, up to yesterday 12/08/19.)
Now, I certainly hope that option B as laid out above is not what has occurred here. The manager I spoke to attempted to come back out for another look at no charge; I told him that in no way would I allow RRT back in my home for further work. To supplement all claims made above, I am in possession of all statements reflective of dates/technician name/service performed/cost paid.
In closing, I am in no way attempting to receive something for free. I am just a customer that has spent countless hours, far too much money, and provided markedly more patience than should be expected for a final fix of an issue that has been plaguing my home since 2015. For reference, the picture attached hereto is indicative of the issue that has been occurring the past 4+ years. It was taken the afternoon of 12/08/2019 after running exactly one (1) load of laundry. This is the issue that has been "fixed" eight-plus times.

Last time it happened, we were unable to get hold of the person who usually does it for us. So my husband has decided to call Roto Rooter!!! I usually check reviews before requesting services from companies, however for some reasons, I fail to do so with them. So when they came, instead of draining it as usual, they proposed, we buy a new pump which will prevent the reoccurrence of the issue. Lies lies lies... Wish we knew better. So the technicians on site (2) replaced the sewage pump in the basement by removing sitting water and running new pipe with check valve.
We were billed $2132.56. Now, the problem is still going on, not only in the basement, but on the main level as well. Additionally, we have a sewage leak and the smell in the whole house is unbearable. We called them again and they decide to charge us $750 to drain. They left 8 inches of black water in the tub; they totally plugged the system by trying to clean it and said there was nothing they could do about it.
The next day we called another plumber who cleaned the drain in 30 minutes. He went under the house and reported no leakage, that yes our pipes were old and gave us a quote to replace everything with new pipes. His bid included all of the 2" waste line, was $400 more for the whole system, while Roto-Rooter's bid was only 1/3 of the replacement of the system. I asked if I could postpone it until 4:00PM, she said "sure, that wouldn't be a problem, it will be a 4 hour time frame." I'm ok with that. She said, "Oh, by the way, there will be a service call for $69.95 (I thought to myself, what happened to the "FREE" service call)." I was happy to think, you know it's ok, we needed someone out the same day, since there was water dripping from this pipe in between the sheet rock and out into the garage. She also advised we could save 10% on the bill since they were doing a "Food" drive. WOW!! A business helping out the community, nice.... well that were it ended.
At at 6:23 PM I called them, wanted to know what the ETA of the tech was. (You could hear people talking to him in the background and it wasn't about business). Couldn't find my husband's phone number either. He asked for the address. Gave it to him, "Oh, hmmmm sorry, I don't see we have a ticket for that address, are you sure it was for today?" GRRRRRrrr. Yes, in fact, I proceeded to tell him the conversation that I had with with the lady earlier that day. "OH, well let me talk to dispatch, I will get right back to you." Told the lady that answered what was going on, she says "Oh, I see you had a ticket but it was cancelled/not needed." I said "WHAT! What do you mean not needed?"
She asked, "Didn't you have a water tech out and he couldn't find anything wrong". I totally lost it. "NO ONE has been here, we have been waiting since 3:30 this afternoon. We have water dripping from the pipe. The pipe is exposed and easy to see, whoever told you that he/she was here should be FIRED. What is it that you plan on doing to make this right?" She states, "Well we could have someone out there tomorrow morning." "NO" that isn't acceptable. At 8:23 PM the tech shows up. Husband takes him to the location of the pipe. Needs to see the hot water tank, weird. OK, well he say this tank is over 15 years and needs to be replaced. We will have to shut off all the water (tank is less than a year old). My husband asked him why? There is a shut off valve on the line he needs to repair. He said, "Well it's high pressure, and the tank needs to be drained." My husband now catching on that this guy doesn't have a clue, "How much is this going to cost?" "$550.00 and parts". What???? The pipe that need to be repaired (cut and spliced, and sweated) was less than 12 inches long. This guys said the whole pipe need to be replaced. My husband, "Thank you for you time, please leave." Roto-Rooter is not only unable to fix plumbing issues, but they create them instead. My home was an innocent bystander as my neighbor hired a technician from Roto-Rooter who failed miserably at common sense and basic skills within the plumbing profession. The technician neglected to turn the water off to my neighbors house prior to cutting a main water line. This cause my neighbors home to flood and intern, my home as well. The technician admitted to causing much damage within our 2 homes, yet all Roto-Rooter has done is try to pass us off to their insurance company. It's taken weeks to get an estimate, and therefore, we've been living in unsafe damaged homes.
When I finally received the estimate (that Roto-Rooter had to sign off on), it was a complete low ball. Damage was done to all of my flooring, cabinetry, kitchen appliances, and even my HVAC unit. In addition to all of these damaged things, they have no concern for my health as they have not included any type of mold remediation cost in their estimate. Interestingly enough, my neighbor and I sustained similar damage to our home, yet his estimate came out to be more than double what mine was. I have tried to contact and left messages for Robbie ** for a couple weeks with no response. Roto-Rooter deems it acceptable to pass their mistakes on to their insurance company, and never make the situation right. I know this as I am still living in a half destroyed home a month after this issue started.
Their water restoration team tore up half of my flooring, partially removed baseboards, and stopped midway through their job because an adjuster needed to come prior to them doing this work. They left my home in ruins and never returned to clean up the mess they started. Do not use this company, as they will cause you more damage and expect you to pay to fix the messes they cause. They employ uneducated, incompetent technicians and lack the ability to properly compensate for their mistakes.

I reached out to the field supervisor and he said he will talk to his coordinator to set up something. Two and half days later I’m still waiting and wondering if I even had an appointment. So I finally called the 800 number to try and set up something only to find out that an appointment had already been made at the local office - why did no one from the local office reach out to me to let me know????
Appointment day rolls around and no one shows up. I don’t know the number to the local office so I called the 800 number again only to be told that the technician is having car trouble and they do not know when he’ll be out. Really? No courtesy to even give me a heads up or even offer someone else. So I’m like, "Fine, I don’t have time to wait all day, just let me reschedule." The new appointment day rolls around and I’m waiting and calling the 800 number to get an ETA. It’s always something - let me transfer you turns into it ringing so long that it disconnects me or be told that they’re at lunch.
Well this same day of me calling trying to get an ETA, the local office calls me and tells me they want to reschedule. I’m like, "Huh? I thought I had an appointment." She goes, "No you don’t. I’m the only one that can schedule callbacks." I’m confused by this time. Side note - she needs to be trained on better customer service. I was put on hold for her to take a personal call. She says, "Dispatch and customer service will tell you whatever they want to get you off the phone." So by this time I’m completely frustrated. I said, "Fine. Can you do 9 am the next day." She’s goes yes and confirms it.
So here it is the next day, 9 am comes and goes and no technician. I called her. She says, "Let me have the technician call you to give you an ETA." He calls - says 11:30-12 noon. I’m like okay. Sitting here waiting. I call him back at 12:45 and he says, "Sorry. I had an emergency call that I had to take care of." I’m on the phone like WTF?! You knew you had to be out to take care of my leak but had to take another call and bump me down further?!! He says, "I’ll be there in 30 mins." He calls again in 30 mins - "I’m stuck in traffic."
What was supposed to be 9 am appointment has turned into a I-have-no-idea-when-they-will-get-here time. If the coordinator knew he wasn’t able to be here 9 am, why even agree to that time?? And why is that the systems don’t talk to each other?? The 800 number has no idea what was going on at the local office and vice versa. So as I’m typing this at 2:10 pm, I’m still waiting for the technician to show up for a 9 am appointment. I will never use Roto-Rooter again. This is the last time.

Two days ago Roto-Rooter cleared one clog that caused the washing machine rinse water to spill on the floor. Yesterday our basement flooded again, but this time with sewage. Roto-Rooter came out again & unclogged it again at no charge because the first technician had not been thorough. The 2nd technician left the filthy mess on the floor told us to contact our insurance company. We were puzzled because we thought Roto-Rooter provides cleanup services.
Our insurance company had another cleanup company call us this morning. I inquired as to how to recoup our deductible from Roto-Rooter. He advised me that Roto-Rooter does indeed provide cleanup services & that we should contact them directly. We've called Roto-Rooter twice so far today & received no return call. Meanwhile we're living in a home with unsanitary conditions in the basement. We have a curious toddler & a curious cat both of whom need to be kept out of the basement until the unsanitary waste is cleaned up.

Came home late from my mother's wake and heard noises in the back bedroom. Next day, walked around and realized I had water spraying hard under the house. I contacted 16 plumbers in the area and none could come for the least of 5 days. Called Roto-Rooter and the next morning they had Sam here. I had an Expansion Tank under the house burst. I am a single 62 year old woman, with no family really close to help. Sam explained everything and showed me pictures and the tank when it was removed. He did a fantastic job in a timely manner. And the price was much better than I expected. I will be calling Roto-Rooter for all my plumbing needs in the future.

BEWARE of deceptive, overpriced billing practices! Called Roto-Rooter to snake two drains. Technician completed the work BEFORE he gave me an estimate. If I had known they were going to charge me $356 per drain, I would have never agreed to let the technician do the job. I complained to management about how the technician failed to provide me with a quote and they reduced the fee to $356 plus tax. Still highway robbery in my opinion.
In addition, I was informed that it is company policy for the technician to remain in your home until you pay in full. So, even if you have a dispute about the price they want to charge you, they won't leave until you pay so they essentially hold you hostage. I have the emails to prove this company policy of making the technicians wait till they receive full payment. I made a complaint with the BBB and the company's resolution was to place me on a "do not service" list! Roto-Rooter is not a consumer friendly company who seeks to put their customers first.

Called Roto-Rooter to investigate a ceiling leak. They came for 5 mins and decided to call water mitigation team that will deal with Insurance only so you don't to worry about billing. Sounds good. Until, it took them 7 days to even come cut a hole, claiming they needed to verify testing. Came out 7 days later to cut and hole and found the leak to be AC related, which they don't fix. Left the fans on site for another week, while I had the HVAC repairmen come out. After all is done, they came to collect their equipment and sent me a bill for about $2.9k (for just leaving the fans on site and cutting 1 hole in ceiling). If I had known, I would have just paid a handyman $50 to come cut the hole or do it myself. Horrible experience, because now I'm out 1k (deductible), 1k Hvac repair and my insurance rates are going to increase every year. NEVER AGAIN! NEXT TIME CALL SOMEONE ELSE.

I scheduled a Roto-Rooter service online. I was given a time frame from 4-8. The guy showed up at 7:10pm. He asked me if the insurance company or I would pay for the service. He said there’d be different rates. I said I’d be paying for it. I needed the toilet flange replaced. I could install the toilet myself. He said he’d install the toilet for a few but he’d waive the fee for the flange. He said he’d just put a new flange on top of the broken one. He quoted me $550. I bought a new Kohler from Home Depot for $148.99 and his fee is more than 3 times the price of the new toilet.
I thanked him for his time and he asked me how much I’d be willing to pay. I said $200 for everything. He said it wasn’t possible. I thanked him for his time again. He tried to pull the “Let me call my supervisor” trick. He asked me if I’d settle for $350. I said no. He told me that $250 plus the price of the parts would be his final offer. I thanked him for his time and said goodbye to him. Some people probably would’ve fallen victims to his tactics but not me. I’m very disappointed with this type of business practice. I’m not sure if this is part of Roto-Rooter pitch or an isolated incident but for sure I won’t do business with them again.

Never use Roto Rooter, it was a terrible experience from start to finish. They claimed they would send a a technician within a two hour window and instead made excuses while one didn’t come for 7 hours. Once the technician did arrive, despite the website claiming he would do an Estimate about the price, he barely glanced at my clogged shower before pulling out a price sheet from Roto Rooters that just gave flat rates for various services. He did unclog my shower and I have no issue with his work, but the way the situation was handled was the opposite of how Roto-rooters advertised themselves.
The price was also far, far higher than a normal shower drain clog would be. It was $636 dollars after tax when normally unclogging a shower drain is $100.00 to $200.00 at most. When I called to question all of these things, from the ridiculous charge to the lies about their estimation, I also got frankly terrible customer service. For two days in a row I was told that I would be connected to a manager and then I was promptly given the run around until someone on Sunday admitted they were lying to me when they said I would have been able to speak to a manager over the weekend.
When I finally did manage to speak to someone from customer service, they told me that there was $472.00 charge just for the plumber showing up, despite that never being mentioned to me over the phone or anywhere on Roto-Rooter's website and various service sections. The plumber also did not say that when he showed up. She then claimed - without providing any evidence - that he’d given me a discount. She also noted that he had also unclogged my sink even though he wasn’t supposed to, even though upon checking other things reviews I found that technicians frequently do “courtesy repairs” without being asked, and it honestly seems more like a manipulation tactic to make people feel guilty when they try to call in to customer service to complain about the ridiculous prices. It’s also worth noting that while my sink was slow draining, I specifically asked him not to do it.
The customer rep I spoke to also claimed that the free estimates were only for “serious” problems when I brought up that I had merely been charged a flat rate and felt manipulated by the $472.00 charge for the plumber “showing up”. When I noted this is not at ALL what the website implies, she claimed that was all corporate advertising and that she didn’t know anything about the pricing. Honestly that did not make sense to me, since she seemed to know before I brought her up.
After that, I hung up with her. Do NOT do business with Roto Rooters. Their technicians may know what they are doing - and are honestly likely also taken advantage of by the company - but it’s not worth it. They are extremely late with vague explanations and offer nothing for that, lie about how their pricing works, overcharge, and their customer service gives you the run around and tries to duck all responsibility with misleading statements and a corporate structure that means you never talk to someone who actually knows enough to give you any answers.

We had water leaking into our water softener, the water softener still worked, just some leaking. The plumber came out this morning and basically told us he may not be able to fix it. We should have listened and said thank you for coming. First off, he couldn't remove the clips which my husband had to remove for him. When he took the top off, he ended up ripping the wiring out of a plug on the back of the water softener. He thinks he fixed the leak, however; my husband said what about the wiring. The plumber told him "go online, I'm sure you can figure it out."
As he was figuring up the bill, we asked about a discount since our water softener was working fine before, with the exception of the leak. He basically told my husband "how do I know you didn't do that?" He ended up giving us $50 off of a $900 bill, coincidentally there is a coupon online for the same amount, but he couldn't use both. Basically, we paid $860, for our water softener to not be able to work at all. Thanks Roto Rooter.

We had Roto-Rooter come out because our drain pipe was backing up in to the utility sink in our basement. They came out on a Sunday and charged us $500 but were unable to unclog it. Monday they sent another man out who then tried to charge us $10,000 for a "collapsed" pipe and told us it was an emergency that our whole house could flood and we had to remove the front yard tree ASAP because it was collapsing the pipe. We had the tree removed same-day and scheduled the repairs for the following day. We then started catching the plumber in lies, stating that he wanted us to remove the tree so it didn't "fall on his guys", we then were told we were unable to have the stump removed because the gas company had to come out and mark the gas lines. The plumber said he would do it himself, which we called the gas company and was told that was illegal.
After multiple red-flags we received a second opinion from a great company and it turned out that our curb trap (which Roto-Rooter said we did not have) had to be unclogged for $500 and the pipe was never collapsed. We cancelled the work with Roto-Rooter and the plumber called my fiance a total of 4 times trying to push us to have the work, threatening that our house will flood and then tried to lower the price of the pipe repairs. We removed a tree for no reason and could of been out $10,000 but luckily knew that there were red-flags and we needed to dig into this a bit more. I would NEVER recommend Roto-Rooter or use them ever again. We are not the only ones in our area that this company and plumber tried to pull this scam on.

Needless to say, it was an easy fix that took me ten mins that I did myself after watching a Youtube video.
When I turn the water on my home was flooded because there was a pipe missing under the sink. The plumber never went inside the house while doing a leak detection - lol. No problem, I figured, everyone makes mistakes. So I just told them again that I would like to have an appointment for Tuesday.
Tuesday comes and I figure I had better call them since they had a mess up with my scheduled service in the first place. So I called them and they said "yes, we will be there between 6:30 and 8:30." I waited. Waited some more. Then I called them since I hadn't heard anything and it was well past 7. They said "we will call you back after we talk to dispatch". So I waited another half hour and called back again. This time they told me nonchalantly "oh you have been rescheduled for tomorrow".
I thought they were joking since I had confirmed 3 times with them that they were in fact coming today to give me an estimate. I was upset and asked why no one had even bothered to call me to let me know. The dispatcher said "well what do you expect for a FREE service call? If you don't like it, explore your other options." I guess they think it's ok to waste your time since they claim to give you a "No Hassle Free Estimate". And I guess they think it's ok to talk to you like YOU'RE the idiot because they messed up. They never once apologized for the inconvenience or for not calling to tell me. Never again. I will never again deal with these morons. I ended up digging and reconnecting myself but the cost just for the guy to walk in the door was $500. Very expensive for 30 min of service.
That same day a damage control guy from the company came out and told me I needed to cut out my walls in the basement and remove all the trim and replace my carpets on my second floor due to contamination. I told him I don’t have that type of money and will do it myself. He insisted that I wouldn’t have to pay anything and that insurance will cover all the expenses plus repairs. I asked him repeatedly that I wouldn’t have to do anything or pay anything and he assured me I didn’t have to do or pay a thing. They came out the next day removed the carpet and cut all the Sheetrock 24” from the floor. They were there no longer than 1.5 hours and the guy assured me again that they deal with the insurance company and that I wouldn’t pay or deal with anything.
The next week I get a call from the insurance company to set up a walk through of all the damage. When the adjuster came out he said that the carpets weren’t covered and that they were only supposed to take out the areas that were contaminated and not the whole thing. A few weeks went by and I didn’t hear anything from the adjuster or Roto-Rooter so I called the adjuster to find out what was going on. He gave me my quote which was only $7700 and I had a $5000 deductible. Not only now have I been dealing with the insurance I’m also gonna have to pay out of pocket to fix all my damages to my house.
After I received the check from the adjuster Roto-Rooter sent out a bill to me for $8000. Not only did they bill me like they said they wouldn’t their bill was over the amount of what I received from insurance. I called the financial department and the guy John was extremely rude and refused to hear me out. He kept cutting me off and basically told me either pay or go to court. They told us that WE would have to pay for them to dig up our yard to get their equipment out of our pipe. My husband told them that he had a problem with that and the manager came out 2 days later and tore up our yard and got their equipment out and discovered that the entire bottom of the pipe was destroyed from the jetting.
They left it exposed and said that we would have to pay them $1700 to fix 10' of pipe and they were not sure if that was the extent of the damage. They said it was our responsibility and that the pipes were old. Now we cannot use our kitchen or bathroom and we have a huge trench dug through the landscape that they claim they are not responsible to fix. Now, since we refuse to pay them to fix their own mistake, we have to pay someone else to fix this pipe which they destroyed. They should have known that our pipes were old and would be compromised if they put the pressure through them. This is very irresponsible and not good business. I would never use this company again!

The tech Jason ** lied about how they will be billing. He claimed he would work directly with our insurance and when push comes to shove they are not even responding to our insurance. They have given up trying to reach Roto-Rooter and gave us the best they could without speaking with them. They went way above their estimate. And I had to help the guy. They only sent one guy to do what is most definitely at least a 2 man job, and I had to help. They are extremely overpriced. Please I beg you. Do not give them your business. They will take advantage of you, and they will lie!

We were told they would arrive between 12pm-1pm. No one showed up. We called and they said "2:30". That came and went. We called again at 3. The woman was rude and said it should be soon. 4:30 came and went and again nothing. No one ever called to tell us they were delayed. We had to continue calling all day. The receptionist was rude and sounded annoyed by our concerns. We ended up going with a great local company who actually cared enough to call us back, show up, and charged us over $300 less. Would never use Roto-Rooter again.

I had a great technician that came out. However he was not able to fix the problem because it was a bigger issue and yet I was charged. I was highly disappointed and dissatisfied. I came out of pocket for something that couldn't be fix. I was charged for a rate as if the issue was fixed when in fact nothing was done.

Garbage Disposal Replacement - On Thursday, April 18, 2019, I discovered about 4 inches of black murky water had accumulated under my kitchen sink. Having used Roto-Rooter for a major leak (burst pipe from washing machine) in February, 2019, I called and made arrangements for plumber to come. He arrived promptly, within 40 minutes of my call, and quoted me $176.00 for a new disposal (identical to the one being replaced, that, btw sells at Lowe's for $114) and $440 for labor (job took maybe an hour) I voiced my disapproval of the high cost and was told I would get $60 off... which was the coupon I was using anyway. He ended up taking $100 off the bill, but I still feel that was an excessive charge for this job. With tax, total came to about $540... I will not use again.

I wish that I had read the reviews before choosing Roto-Rooter. I had to have my main sewer line and trap replaced from the house to the curb with PVC pipe, and a sleeve liner inserted into the pipe under my house. The job was to be done in two parts on Saturday 4/20 and on Monday 4/22. The lead on the job, Joe, called to reschedule the first part for Friday 4/19 due to upcoming bad weather, which was fine since I work from home and told him such. The crew arrived Friday around noon and started around 1 pm. Although I was told that I did not have to be home in order for them to complete the work. It was a good thing I was. They constantly needed to come inside to check where the water valve was and to use an outlet for their machine since there isn't one in the front of the house.
They were very unprofessional, constantly arguing/yelling and cursing with one another. They finished up late in the evening around 7pm, and I called their boss to complain. He apologized and said he'd send a different crew out on Monday. Around 8pm I was surprised to find that someone else from Roto-Rooter had shown up to clean the line after I had been told that they would do so on Monday. This man failed to inform me that clearing the line would likely result in an explosion of water from my toilet if I did not put the lid down. I was furious when I saw all of that nasty toilet water had gotten onto every wall of my bathroom, as well as the sink. What's worse is that the tech did not finish cleaning the line until 10pm and the machine was very loud. I stayed up until midnight trying to clean everything.
The crew that came out on Monday were, I must admit, very polite and respectful. They were professional and quiet and got the job done. I remitted the second half of payment (I paid the first half when I scheduled the work) but was annoyed to find out that the back-fill for the property would not be done until the inspector passed the job - something of which I was unaware. Today, I looked at my bank account and the company had cashed my checks DESPITE the fact that the job has not passed inspection and the mess in my front yard has not been cleaned/back-filled.
This is unprofessional and unacceptable. You simply do not take payment for something that is incomplete. The right thing to do would have been to wait to cash the second half of payment until the job was complete. I feel stupid. I should have withheld payment until it was back-filled. I do not believe that I will be using Roto-Rooter again in the future. I've contacted Customer Service and am waiting to hear back.

I called Roto-rooter at 8:14 am at 616-259-4023 and talked to a dispatcher. I told him I had a sewer line that needed to be cleaned out. I asked him approximately how much it would be just to clean out a line. He said he is just a dispatcher and doesn't have any pricing. He said they would have a technician come out and he would give me a estimated cost for the job. He expected them to be there around 11 am on the same day. He called back and said they are going to be earlier maybe a little after 10 am.
At 10:28 am I received a call from the technician George on site (this is a rental home I am the landlord). He called me from 616-802-7371 number. He told me the estimate was about $480.00! I said that seemed like an awful lot cleaning the line. He said he found the clean out and figured he would have to go all the way out to the street which is about 120 feet away from the clean out. I told him that I was pretty sure the main sewer line ran thru the alleyway right behind the house. He also said that it included a $100.00 charge just to come to the site. Their dispatcher said they would come and give me a estimate. He didn't say it would cost me $100.00 just to come to the site.
Since it was a estimated payment (this was written on the receipt) I figured it wouldn't be that much as it never was anytime we had it done before. He also remarked that the clean out I had installed made the job a lot easier that going all the way from a toilet inside the house. I received a text message from the tenant that he was finished up at 11:21 am less than a hour after he started and that he had the copy of the receipt and would send it to me and it was for $480.00 - $20.00 for a online coupon they had on their website.
I called their office on Monday morning and talked to a dispatcher again. I asked him how much is it normally for a truck to clean out one line. He said he doesn't have any pricing. Only the Technicians have pricing. I asked him if I could talk to the Technician and he said no. He must have sensed my frustration and asked if I would like to talk to a manager instead. I said, "Yes I would like to talk to him." He told me he would transfer me over to him and put me on hold. After less than a minute he came back and said the manager was on another line but would call me back. I checked to make sure he had my cell phone number and he read it back to me correctly. Of course the manager has never called me back.
I feel that the $100.00 dollar charge to get there shouldn't been charged since they told me they would come and give me a estimate first. Also on the bill in addition to the cleaning of the line which had its own repair code, he also added a second repair code for video inspection of the line. George the technician never asked if I wanted a video inspection or told me that was part of his estimate. As I would have told him not to do that as we have had this problem before and I know it is roots growing into the line.
Looking online I see they charge almost as much for a video inspection as for the line cleaning. Also looking online I found the typical price for cleaning a line is from $133 - $213. Also since he had estimated that he would have to clean out the line all the way to the road approximately 120' and he only went 27' that the cost should have be way less than his original estimate. I feel that a total fair cost would be $200.00 and they can refund me the extra $260.00 they took under unfair conditions. We had this line cleaned out 4 times over the last 15 years and never had been charged even close to $200.00. Very poor company. Stay away and save yourself a lot of heartache.

The dispatcher called me at 7 p.m. and told me that the technician was running late and they would call me when he was on his way. At some point I fell asleep at the dispatcher calls me at 12:38 a.m. (no joke). I was sound asleep and told her that no I didn't want them to come to my house past midnight so she said someone would come first thing in the morning but I told her I would be at work in the morning and I would just call them back. The next morning the dispatcher calls to tell me they are on their way. Seriously why in the world would you call someone at midnight for something that is not an emergency. I let them come anyway, he's fixing my toilet now but wondering what kind of company I'm dealing with here.

We have to figure out how to pay, and Margie ** email and tell my husband she gonna send our bill to collection when your company didn't even put back the wall of my garage. Wow what a bad customer service and worse expensive company ever, and when I call her and she said, "Oh he work 24 hours." Wow. Hey lady you will get a response when my husband available. How rude and unprofessional you are.
And Plummer they charge us $300 the first day and the second day another Plummer come and he said it's $300 again. Your company is ripping people off. I don't recommend this company to anyone, they will make you broke. This was happen last month and they send us the bill by the end of the month and she want to send to the collection. A "Field Supervisor" showed up before 9:00 AM, inspected the job, and told me the plumber will show up before noon. At approximately 11:30 AM I called to see when I should expect the plumber. It took over half an hour to get anyone to respond. I was told by dispatch that "they are delayed". She could not give me even a window of time. She basically told me to wait the rest of the day. I finally managed to talk to a "manager" named Michele who was of absolutely no help. They expected me to wait the entire day and hope that someone will show up. Given the prices they charge (see over 500 negative reviews), I decided to cancel the appointment. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS ORGANIZATION!

I had a leak from our water line just outside my house where the line connects to the house so I called Roto-Rooter for assistance. The salesman was out within a couple of hours that morning and was very nice and professional. He quoted me $1475 to find the leak and repair it. I paid and by 12 PM they had a tech on site to repair the problem.
Two hours later, the job was finished and the tech was gone... but he left me with his digger tracks all over my sidewalk and driveway. One might think that for $737 an hour the tech would clean up his mess. Now I'm stuck with it. BTW: he dug up two of my shrubs around the water line and didn't return them to their spots but instead stuffed them under my Japanese Maple. This was a HUGE hit job on the customer.. no way this should have cost $1475 for two hours work.. no way. Yep, I did get a completed job and they came out and did the job the same day. But in the end, they ripped me.
Follow Up to Customer Service Rep Request. I'm changing their rating to a one star as a result of their custom service follow up. Pat ** made a request that I contact him about the issue and he then forwarded my response to him to the General Manager Lance **, who called me within a few hours. Mr ** accepted no accountability or responsibility for the damages to my sidewalk and driveway.
Furthermore he stated that it their business practice was to use set price quotes that would cover the costliest option efforts without consideration if the job effort is far less; it's just their gain when they complete the job in a small fraction of the effort estimated. He used an example where their charges are for three to four hours but the work was completed in fifteen minutes but they still charged $600 with no adjustment. He also stated that I could have hired a local plumber down the street to do my job for $100 to $200 easily. For me it was less than two hours work for one person and was charged $1500.

I called Roto-rooter to come out as I was told that they would be there that day and when the technician arrived (the next day) I was quoted a price of $584, the technician did not even look at my sink. I was just quoted a price. I told him the price was way too high as I already had verbal quotes from 3 other companies, $89, $93 and $149, I chose Roto-Rooter as they were supposed to be there the same day and I figured the price would be about the same. The technician ended up coming the next day as his equipment broke on a job prior to mine, I was told by the technician that I would get a discount for the trouble.
I told him the price was too high and he lowered the price a couple of times as I stated it was still too high, I ended up paying $300 for the job. The technician ran a snake through the line which took maybe 10 minutes, if even that. I was charged $300 for 10 minutes of work. I feel like I was taken advantage of. The only reason I agreed to let him do the work as he was already there and I canceled an appointment that I had with another plumber and I needed to have it fixed. The technician was friendly and unclogged my drain but I felt I got ripped off. I’m very disappointed and will not use them again, I also will not recommend them.

I was feeling ok about my service, on time, cleaned up afterward, technician good, UNTIL I started researching on how much this service is supposed to cost. I had my toilet removed so he could run a fancy snake with a rotating blade on it down my line to clear a clog. That was over $650. From what I can tell it should have been half that price on average from other companies, and now I have no resource to remedy this overcharge. Will not use again.

I called Roto-Rooter on the afternoon of Saturday, April 6th, 2019; it was 2 days ago. One of my toilets is being clogged and unclog on it's own. When it's clogged and I run water in the tub or in the bathroom sink, the water in the toilet bubbles. When the technician came out, he diagnosed a clogged sewer line. He offered 3 options to choose from: a basic that is around $300, an intermediate that is around $400 and the hydro jet that cost $658. He said that after 2 hours, the hydro jet option will incur additional $350 per hour. We finally opted for the hydro jet.
After 40 minutes, he got tired, I guessed, stopped, and said that all he can do and that he will talk to his boss to see what else they can do, because, there is a stick too in there that the camera was showing. The following day, my husband bought a long stick at Walmart, placed a hook at the end and took the stick out. But the issue remained the same today, Monday morning. Nothing has changed. I called customer service and got treated rudely because I was upset. When you realize you got ripped off, would do you not get upset? Stay away from Roto-Rooter.

They would not fix it since the rain yesterday there is a area that is 4 feet x 16 inches and 5 inches deep. Now we will have to spend more money to fill it in. It will take 3 cubic feet of soil. I will not recommend. We paid quite a large amount of money to this company. Would expect a more professional finish in the yard. Their contact does state no landscape but they should at least leave the yard in same condition before they dug the ditch. The ditch should have been compacted.

When I called the manager to explain that the charge was way out of line, he told me that was the minimum they could charge. Had Roto come out about a leak in my basement... Right off the bat the tech snakes the drain and plugged in my full sump pump... It drained but water started coming up through the sewer line. He informed me he needed to put a camera down the sewer line.. $250 dollars was that cost after the already 280 charge for coming out. The drain was still clogged, I later learned a camera really doesn't help when the drain is clogged. The camera went down 100 ft before hitting the blockage. The tech said we needed a hydrowash or something like that and that runs about 1500. I said I would need to get back on that. Went with another company who came out in a matter of minutes and fixed the clog for $90 with a 6 month warranty. I feel I was taken advantage of and should not have to pay for something I received no results.
