I had this company come to investigate a leaking shower faucet in October. It cost me $799 for them to swap out a cartridge which they explicitly told me was not under warranty. Delta parts are never under warranty. At the time I didn’t know this was a lie. The charge for the cartridge to me was $177. In February the cartridge started to make horrible noise. I called them back. $400 later and another cartridge cost of $111 (not sure why the parts cost was so different) they replaced the cartridge. That evening my shower faucet was leaking again. They came back a third time and miraculously told me the cartridge was now under warranty. It only clued in when I saw the package of the new cartridge this being the third at Delta brand. The two times prior the cartridge was actually a generic one never a Delta. This time things seem to have been fixed. My disappointment in this organization is that they lie.

The costs of parts are inconsistent, and they use generic versus brand products without being upfront with the customer and letting them approve the cost of the part as well as the brand. I can’t explain how many times they told me Delta parts, including the cartridge was not under warranty however, to my surprise, it sure is under warranty and covered. I will never use this company again. I will continue to ensure others are aware of their risks as they take using them. They are not honest and overcharge for a horrible job. $1200 later.. I’ll never make the mistake again.

Horrible experience. Called for a simple leak. They said my pipes were outdated and had to be fixed for $6200 now (no time or deal lost). My elderly mom agreed to pay since she owns the house. The person who came to my house, the project inspector said he would make sure the job was done right, but I never saw him again. Many technicians, and two months later I have a leak from a PVC pipe attachment they have come to fix twice (once no glue, next the tightenly attachment left uneven and leaking). They are incompetent and rude and only about the money. Another plumber came to fix it and told me the whole project what worth $1200 in supplies. They overcharged us $5000 and left me with more problems & leaks. The other plumber also told me they put in the new pipes wrong at angles not allowing proper ventilation. One of the workers just walked around my house like he owned the place. Sleazy!

Updated on 03/02/2025: Inconsistent Service Quality is exactly what I was subjected to. After my 2nd complaint against Roto-Rooter for breaking my door I received a call from a customer service rep whose repose was generally the technician said the door was up when he left. So what it boils down to is he broke my door and he lied. Talk about dishonest. I didn't even ask them to replace or repair the door. I only wanted them to acknowledge the FACT that my newly installed door was broken off the track and I mean completely broken when he installed a water tank that was clearly larger than the one that had been there for years.

It's absolutely offensive that the support of your customers is limited to, "We got your money and the guy that took it did not damage the door". That's a lie and the manager that called me on Saturday Morning is clearly covering for the ineptness of his service technicians. There's not a whole lot you can do when they have your money and they've left your property. I should have inspected the door before he left. However I trusted the service and I trusted the tech.

DON'T DO IT. The product comes from your local big box store and the service is overpriced. I would not recommend this company friends family or seniors. I would not recommend a company who can't take ownership of the harm and cost of their screw up. Perhaps breaking the door was an accident but HE DID BREAK IT. I wish I could give them less than one star but you have to put one in to submit the review. OH WELL. I won't call them again if they are the last plumbing service in the world.

Original: I thought the service was great in light of the need. The tech came out to give me an assessment and a quote. Even before looking at the job he told me it would be $2400.00. That wasn't the issue since I did need to repair the problem immediately. I agree to the payment and even got a senior discount of $100.00. Big deal. The internet promotion offered $80.00 for online same date. Long and short the service was okay but after I inspected the area when the tech left my home he broke the door. Didn't just take it off the track. It was broken. A piece of wood that held the movable post onto the track was broken....The tech told me everything was done and he put the door back up but what he actually did was placed the door against he wall. I tried to close it a few hours after he left when I was cleaning up and mopping the mud.

The door was broken and needed to be replaced. That would only cost about $300.00 and I would not have been upset if he had just told me he "broke the door". I am reasonably understanding and the door had been replaced three years ago when we renovated the basement. I called the company to let them know the door was broken and the technician didn't bother to tell me but he got paid. The party answering the phone reminded me that I only paid $2300.00 not $2400.00 and he was sorry that I was not informed that my door was broken. He also told me that a manager would call me within three hours. That didn't happen either. I wold have given Roto Rooter a much higher review but this incident reminded me why I have not used them in a while.

If I had called my contractor I would have paid almost $1,000.00 less than Roto Rooter charged me but if my contractor broke or damaged something he/they would at least let me know before they left my property. I am not recommending Roto Rooter for that reason only. You got paid. I accepted the finished product and thought the job was great. I listened to a 2 minute spill on the operations of my new hot water tank. I HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW DOOR FOR the furnace closet because I had to duct tape it closed to keep my dogs out. All they had to do was let me know they broke my door and I would not be angry maybe a little upset but I did not pay Roto Rooter $2300.00 to do damage. I paid them to do repairs!!!!

It's easy to lose trust in a person or a business when you are deceived by such small issues. Good customer service includes honesty. I would again be less concerned about a damaged door if he had just told me. Furthermore they sent a couple of guys out for "remediation". I did not have any flooding damage. I had a leak which I called about immediately before it became a major problem. It was an old tank....But I guess old habits come naturally to some....Do damage and run....

They were never clear about the prices, the service over the phone was TERRIBLE. When I wanted to make my complaint and look for a solution, I spoke to the boss, who was the worst; he treated me rudely, speaking aggressively and in a loud tone, telling me that his worker had to leave the house at 10pm, leaving his family and home to give me a service. If they are going to blame that, they should stop providing 24/7 service. They lack a lot of customer service, and like every website, they should have the prices for their services. I absolutely do not recommend this company, look for better options.

We recently had Roto-Rooter for a clogged kitchen sink. Although they arrived quickly as we had no use of the sink for 3 days because of the weekend, we were charged a ridiculous amount of $655 plus tax for a simple kitchen sink snake. Absolutely outrageous. I had understand we agreed to the estimate as we were desperate by that point, but that is highway robbery for less than an hour of being there. How do you do that to people? What kind of a company does that? I will NEVER use them again and I will tell anyone who asks never to use them. Terrible.

Do NOT work with Roto-Rooter. This is a terrible company to work with. Their team worked on our water remediation project. The project manager was quite inaccessible and would not promptly respond to my questions. I felt like I was directing some of the work with the subcontractors used and following up as needed to keep the process going. Further than that, there were many errors on their invoices sent to me including billing me for items they didn't even do (the subcontractors did). Prior to starting the work I was assured that because they use Xactimate (which has defined prices for certain tasks - generally accepted by insurance companies), Rotorooter could never price gouge. I think in theory perhaps that's true, but they can price gouge if they literally make up items they didn't even do.

Rotorooter only removed some of the items after I disputed them, but I wasn't able to get them to remove all of them. I considered suing them, but I don't want to deal with that headache. Their invoices went through multiple revisions and whenever I went to call to pay, they were still requesting the higher amounts. I had to say no, we brought that down to X amount. Then the accounts receivable person would say oh yes I see that now... They would have been very happy to take the higher amounts even though they already agreed to the lower amounts. It's as if they were holding them and hoping I'd slip up and pay the higher amount without noticing. I fully regret using their services and will never be using them again.

My 20th email to Rotor Rooter in 2 weeks. Doubt anyone will reply as per usual, but will give you an idea of what to expect when hiring this company. I am writing this email out of sheer frustration and disbelief at the appalling level of unprofessionalism and incompetence I have experienced with your company. I have spent countless hours on the phone, sending emails, and following up, only to be ignored, passed around from one person to another, or given false promises that were never followed through. This is, without a doubt, one of the most disorganized and infuriating experiences I have ever had with a service provider. I have never witnessed this level of incompetence and unprofessionalism across an entire company. I will never recommend roto router to anyone that I like and most definitely never hire anyone who is remotely associated with the company.

The ordeal started on January 24th at 7 am when my sprinkler line cracked in the garage due to extremely cold weather. I called several companies and when Rotor Rooter informed me that they can get here within hours (at 2pm at the latest as per recorded phone call) I decided to go with them SOLELY on their ETA alone. I took off from work for the first half of the day waiting on water mitigation and Plummers to arrive. When nobody showed up by 3, I was informed that 2 pm is not actually the time they would get there but it was rather a window of 2-6 which the operator never told me about. At 6 pm there were still no sign of the water mitigation people. I kept calling to check on their ETA and I kept being told by everyone that "they are busy and will arrive soon". While I understand that weather conditions cause an influx in service tickets, nobody should have promised me a 2 pm or earlier window while I was making an appointment.

Finally after about 6th call at 9 pm, the water mitigation crew consisting of 2 guys who smelled like weed armed with their cell phones as flash lights arrived to my property. There was still no sign of the plumber who is the person that I really needed, since we had no water coming to the house for over 12 hours at that point. I called yet again. The person on the phone informed me that I didn't reply to the automated appointment confirmation and this is the reason why the plumber didn't come. When I informed her that not only I replied to the message within a minute (attached) I also called several times to see where he is. The story changed and she then proceeded to inform me that the plumber had a family emergency and took our request off the schedule without telling the central office. This is after I waited for him to arrive for 14 hours..

So they decided to send another plumber who finally arrived at 10 pm. Looked at the pipe for all of 20 seconds with his phone flash light and informed us that they don't work on sprinkler pipes and we will need to contact a fire and sprinkler company. By miracle we were able to get a hold of a technician who came out on Saturday and fixed it.

Back to the water mitigation crew. Since they arrived on Friday they moved at approximate speed of molasses to do repairs. They came out in the middle of the night for 3 days in a row to take down 1 wall and part of the ceiling. Every time I went out to check on them to see If they need anything, one guy was sitting in the car while the other one slowly moving about the garage with no real purpose. On Sunday when we were finally able to turn the water back on ( because the sprinkler line glue needed 24 hours to dry) we discovered that the water mitigation committee knocked off a cap of the sprinkler line on the whole other side of the garage where we previously didn’t have any damage while they were taking out the insulation. This cost me another $400 in repairs and 24 hours without water.

On Monday a rotor rooter inspector came out to do humidity readings and to close out the ticket. He informed us that none of the required work has been done and they left a whole wall intact that needed to be taken down and at this point was molding and needed to be taken down immediately. Then he left. No follow up. No crew to come fix it. Nothing. I was calling all week for somebody to come out and finish the job. Talked to 4 supervisors and god knows how many agents. By Friday or Thursday (30/31) a week after the incident they sent more people out to finish the job.

After they left I spoke to Farnom on Friday to see who will be paying for all these extra labor hours and the pipe that they damaged and he told me that he will send somebody out to look at the pipe as soon as possible ( Monday at the latest). No surprise nobody came. I am also waiting on the damage report because my insurance company will not do an estimate without it. Somebody called my husband yesterday (February 5) 2 weeks since the incident and said that they will come to look at the pipe. He took off work and waited. Nobody came and they didn’t even have the decency to notify him that they weren’t coming.

So it is now February 5th (2 weeks since the incident) I have a torn up garage, which may or may not be finished, I have no estimate of the damages, I have no appraisal to start the repairs, I don’t have any word on who is paying for the damages caused to the sprinkler line by your employees. I have called Farnom 4 times this week and left messages, he hasn’t even bothered returning my calls to update me on the reasons why all the things he promised me are not happening a week after he said they would. And he is supposed to be your supervisor who handles customer complaints.

Come on guys. I should not have to leave a review on every platform that internet has to offer and write to corporate in order to address a host of very simple issues. You have pretty good reviews online which is confusing because this is not what I have experienced while working with you at all. This has been a lengthy frustrating process that a company of your caliber should not be proud of. And it's not just one employee, it’s the whole Maryland branch that has fallen short during every encounter. I have been more than patient, and I am done being ignored. I expect an immediate response and resolution to this matter.

The site claims they have flat rate services and pre quotes in writing before doing anything. We had plumbing backing up. So a guy showed up, snaked the pipes from the roof. Then he came down and removed the toilet and snaked from there. After this he said happily, "I got the blockage and snaked all the way to the street. So you are good to go." He wrote up the statement that was suppose to have been done in the first place. $600. Ok I was fine with that if it worked. It did not. 2 hrs later toilet is flushed. Again it backs up.

I am definitely thinking I got taken for $600. He tried to tell me if I had cash there is a discount for that. Nope I put it on my credit card. And the toilet was placed back on the floor with a fresh wax seal. "No charge" he said. The toilet wobbles. I went to check. None of the screws are tightened. I tightened them down. The toilet still wobbles. No clue what was done. But the toilet is not sitting right now. Keep looking. The promises on the site are wrong. They do not guarantee the job is done for a set price. They charge an hourly fee then scoot out and leave it unfinished.

1/23/2025-1/27/2025. Beware of their predatory sales practices. They came and immediately tried to pressure me into calling insurance, quoting me $2000-7000 for a burst pipe and water mitigation services, which ultimately only amounted to a fixed pipe (not included in the quote, and $1350 extra) and air dryers. They are trying to charge me $2600 in addition for the equipment, monitoring, cleaning, protective equipment, and their own travel to and from my house. They cannot explain the charges and told me that because I was not in the business, "I would not understand." This is after I emailed them a couple times to no response other than, "You already paid the $2000 deposit, this invoice is just for the $600 extra."

They are claiming that they performed 8.5 hours worth of work, when they were only in my house for less than 2 hours. Their work has been so inconsistent and unsatisfactory that I now have to call another trusted professional to come out and check the work behind them. I received three different diagnoses on what needed to be done to mitigate the water, with no real examination besides using a moisture meter. Their "cleaning" charge amounted to a guy putting a towel down and wiping it around with his foot.

I asked why I was paying for them to have gloves, and got shamed because that meant I didn't want them to have protective equipment. When asked who should be paying for the gloves, I told them that it's THEIR responsibility as an employer. Wendy ** was extremely rude and combative, and the manager for the mitigation department avoided my emails and ducked my call, so obviously they expect insurance to just pay for everything without a second thought. My deductible is high enough that this does not qualify, so now I'm left paying out of pocket to a company that did the same amount of work as if I rented some fans from Home Depot.

On January 9th I called Roto Rooter in Georgia for a clog in my home. They scheduled someone to come out within the next hour or two. We had some water back up in a downstairs bathroom which we had completely cleaned up by the time the plumber arrived. When he got there I showed him the toilet and said it was clogged and it will overflow if flushed. He flushed the toilet and water got everywhere again. He said he would remove the toilet and clear the clog with a drain snake for $816 and that would cover everything and he would put everything back like it was.

Although this seemed like a very high price for a clog I wanted a professional company to do the work. He pulled the toilet and cleared the clog with a snake quickly. He put everything back together and had me sign and pay then he left. I went into the bathroom to clean up and saw that the toilet was wobbly and extremely loose. I also noticed my shutoff valve next to the toilet was rapidly leaking water all over the floor. I called him back and he returned quickly. He attempted to replace the shut off valve with a replacement he had in his truck and installed it wrong twice. Both times I would turn on the water for him and the valve would blow off and spray water all over the place since he installed a compression valve on pex without placing the insert inside the pex tubing which it says to do on the valve box instructions.

At this point I was beyond frustrated. He put the old valve back on since Home Depot was closed and he couldn’t go to purchase a new one. The leak almost went away at this point. He tightened down the loose toilet and it was 90% less wobbly but not as good as before he was ever there. He left again after this. I proceeded to clean the mess again and noticed he left a new bolt sticking out of the toilet uncut so you can’t put the cover on. He also left the escutcheon plate off of the wall opening. There were also scratches all over the wall which was spotless beforehand.

I called the office number on his card for Norcross GEorgia after the weekend and spoke to Mr. Timothy ** about the sloppy work / experience and he said I would get a call to schedule someone to come out at my convenience to fix the issues. 2 weeks later I have received no calls and unable to get back on the phone with Mr ** after multiple attempts of calling his office and leaving messages with him and the receptionists. No one was any help at fixing the issues they created.

    - Escutcheon left off wall
    - Bolt uncut on toilet
    - Wall scratched
    - Toilet loose
    - Old shut off valve reinstalled when needing replaced

    - Water everywhere

Anyway he “unclogged“ the pipe, probably spent less than an hour and charged 702.00. I called another company for a second opinion and told me that the pipe was ok. I have an unpleasant sensation that I was taking advantage of the fact I needed the service quick, my mistake was trusting without get a second opinion. Please do your research before hiring Roto-rooter because you can end with an expensive repairs and probably unnecessary just to take more $$$ from you!

I strongly discourage anyone from using Roto-Rooter for plumbing services. They charged us an outrageous $100 per minute, only to provide a temporary “rigged” solution to a plumbing issue. After consulting other plumbers who reviewed their work, it became clear their approach was subpar and far from professional. Just a month after they “fixed” the issue, another leak appeared—clearly coming from the same line. When I called them back to investigate, a different person from the company came out. Instead of taking responsibility, they made excuses, saying they weren’t the ones who handled the first repair and had no way of knowing what was done. Aren’t professionals supposed to share notes and document their work? If you’re charging hundreds of dollars for a repair, the least you can do is perform the job correctly the first time.

To make matters worse, they claimed I needed a whole new water heater unit because it was “rusted.” I guess the rust must have magically accumulated in just a month since their last visit. This felt like another excuse to upcharge rather than address the real issue. The only bright spot in this entire experience was the water cleanup crew—they were amazing. I just wish I could say the same for the plumbers. After the whole experience and hearing from others in the community, it’s clear this company has a bad reputation for overcharging and cutting corners. Save yourself the headache and hire a reliable, honest plumber instead.

Updated on 02/19/2025: I worked through Pat ** to make contact with Mark, the local Water Mitigation manager. Pat **, as a liaison, can do no more than strongly encourage that the local franchise's management call you. Mark was not good about following up when he said he would, and I had to both call him and follow up with Pat ** to get him to call back. He did assure me they were performing an internal review of the account and would contact me with the results. According to Pat **, he did contact me with the final decision, but he did not, and it was only Pat's communication that let me know that after their internal review they had charged everything correctly.

What consumers need to know is that during their internal review, they did not ask me for any more information, such as my insurance company's analysis of what the job should have cost, nor for my analysis of the differences between the two. Additionally, they did not come out to the house and remeasure a room that was mis-measured and increased the size of the job by 33 square feet.

The other thing that people should know is that at no time has any of the management at either the corporate or local level considered that if a senior manager had contacted me during the process to apologize for the low estimate, explain in detail that a change in the scope of work was necessary and give me a new, detailed estimate of the work remaining and ask if I wanted them to continue, then I could have made an informed decision. Rather they had one of their technicians ask me to sign for what I thought was just some additional equipment with an explanation that they could not tell me how much more that it would be because it all gets calculated in Exactimate (a system to which no consumer has access). I have not had a good experience with this company, I feel betrayed putting my trust in them and I cannot recommend that anyone use Roto-Rooter's water mitigation services.

Original Review: Roto Rooter is quick to respond and the pre-sales managers and technicians were all friendly. The technicians accomplished quality work in a timely manner. Most individuals that visited our home came in company vehicles and wore company uniforms. There was one individual, though that regularly arrived in an older camper van and did not wear company attire. This individual made us uncomfortable, but went about their work and did not bother us. The issues with Roto Rooter we had, however, and the reason for the one-star review is the lack of transparency in their estimates and billing. We were quoted $15,000-20,000 for water mitigation services, but ultimately charged $35,000, $15,000 more than the top estimate without any insight into what we were being charged during the process.

In our situation, the county sewer line had backed up into our home at peak flood leaving eight inches of black water in our finished basement. We called Roto Rooter and they responded quickly at night. The technician helped us determine that we needed to call the county and because of their quick thinking we were able to get the county out that night to clear the line and get the water out. The next day the Roto Rooter Water Mitigation Services folks came out and gave us the estimate of $15,000 to $20,000 to clean up the mess, including demolition. This seemed like a lot, but the sales manager made it sound like everything would be included. It was noted on the contract that the charges would be "Per Xactimate" and "the actual price will be based on our actual work but could exceed that estimate".

I asked their manager what they thought it would actually be and his thought was probably in the $17,000 range. What I did not realize, but should have, is that they had, in essence, written themselves a blank check on our project. If I had to do it again, I would have changed the contract to say "Not to exceed the Maximum estimate without customer approval of a re-estimate by Roto Rooter" and not signed anything until they accepted that.

We worked alongside the crew to get what possessions we could salvage out of the basement and allowed them to dispose of the rest. Then they began the actual drying process. During this process, one of the technicians said they would need to bring some more equipment out and it would cost just a little bit more. I asked how much and I was referred to Xactimate (a system that I could not get to see what I was spending). I trusted that they would try to keep to their estimates (bad assumption) and signed for what I thought was just the equipment. It turns out I signed a change of scope that had no documentation about how the scope was changing, just “Per Xactimate”.

Finally, everything was clean and dry again and I was shocked to receive a bill that was $15,000 more than the high estimate! I spoke to my insurance company about this, and they said they have had trouble with Roto Rooter in the past charging for things that were part of the renovation side and not the mitigation side. I also found in pouring through the extensive bill with the insurance company that room sizes were incorrect, the amount of sanitization used was more than normal and that extraction of water from the concrete, final cleanup and other services were not customary charges. We tried to work through this with Roto Rooter’s billing, but they would not look at any dispute that was not in a very specific format. By the time I was able to get this worked out between them and our insurance, we were threatened by Roto Rooter with a lien against our property.

We are people that pay our bills, so I paid the full amount we had been charged, even though I feel we were stonewalled to the point where we had no choice but to pay it. Roto Rooter has said that they will review what they finally accepted from the insurance company, but we have heard nothing for several weeks. While Roto Rooter did quality work, their business practices with regard to cost transparency and billing are designed so that they can charge the customer whatever they want and the customer has no way to track the cost nor ability to dispute it once the final bill is issued. I cannot recommend anyone use Roto Rooter Water Mitigation services because of this experience.

Since Roto-Rooter (RR) operates as a franchise model I want to be clear that this review is specific to the location in Farmington Hills, MI and not the company as a whole or other franchises. In case you don’t want to read through my ordeal, here is what I learnt: Never hand over your credit card without checking the invoice. Make sure that the warranty marked down on the invoice meets your expectations and what has been discussed. I learnt that RR has standard guarantees for different services, but that the Rep can make changes based on his own judgment. There is a designated area for that on the invoice. In my case the rep told me it was twelve months but wrote on the invoice “One return”.

Beware of upselling tactics. Not sure what the compensation structure is but wouldn’t be surprised if commissions are a big part of it. So, before agreeing to a service like hydro jetting ask for a free camera inspection should the problem reoccur within 6 months. If the rep declines but points to his/her experience, you know the reps experience is not something you can bank on. Have the line just snaked instead, otherwise you might be $600 out of pocket without anything to show for it. After that it’s going to be another $350 for camera inspection + whatever permanent fix is required. If the rep agrees make sure it’s written on the invoice. My advice to the franchise: Find someone to help you get organized and develop your processes. I have no advice on integrity. It's who you are and you either have it or you don’t.

My experience: I called RR to deal with a backed-up floor drain. The representative identified a plugged sewage line as the culprit and rather than just having the line snaked for $300 recommended having the line hydro-jetted for $900 (think of it as pressure washing the pipe from the inside). I was told this would prevent further clogs in the foreseeable future and should anything happen, the service was covered under a 12-month warranty. I went for it. Two weeks later my floor drain backed up again. To be fair, RR came out and restored flow. Fast forward another two weeks and the floor drain backs up again...

This is where it gets ugly: I am being told that removing the clog would cost $300. I remind the representative of the 12-month warranty just to be told that the 12-month warranty is limited to one visit. I ask what about the extra $600 for hydro-jetting and the prognosis that this would alleviate future issues. After some unpleasant back and forth and defensive statements that seem well rehearsed, I grudgingly pay the bill and carry on with my life. After that it becomes almost comical: A supervisor calls the same evening and apologizes for the bad experience, and we agree that he would perform a camera inspection free of charge the following day in the afternoon.

At 10am the following day a different representative shows up at our house convinced he has to snake the sewage pipe again. I tell him this has already been done so he proceeds to offer me a camera inspection. I ask him if it was for free as agreed and he says it would cost $350. I sent him home. Around noon representative #3 shows up saying the supervisor cannot make it and sent him instead and he was ready to give us a quote on any necessary remediation work. I sent him home as well. I finally reach out to the supervisor to figure out what that was all about. I never got a response. I guess it all checks out.

During a winter storm, our kitten ran into the clean out drain and got stuck. We called Roto Rooter and without hesitation, they dispatched Jordan who got to us in less than 30 minutes. After digging and gaining access to the pipe, we realized the cat was further under the house. We thought she would come out after the shock of hearing the power saw, but Jordan wanted to make sure. He sat out in the cold trying every trick in the book to get her out. After more than an hour, another worker came to assist, using a camera to locate the cat. Once realizing she was stuck, they had to go on top of the house and use tools to dislodge the kitten from the pipe. When pulled out, the kitten was covered in sewage and not happy about it, but they didn't let her slip out of their grip and brought her to our front door. After all of their work, they stayed and repaired the pipe and covered the hole that was dug down about 4 feet.

There was no way we would have been able to rescue the kitten on our own, and Roto Rooter did all of this with No Charge. Jordan was amazing and determined to rescue the cat. He was very patient, hard working, and kind. If we have any plumbing issues, the first call I'm making is to Roto Rooter. We will forever be grateful for their services. Ps. The cat's name is no longer trouble. We now call her Piper.

Technician looked at the heater and said it needs to be relit. He immediately pressed on the button and pilot light appeared within 10 sec. He got up and said - 385$. This price is well beyond ridiculous for 30 sec of work, but we actually only asked them to come for free estimate. As it happens unit was totally fine and only needed to pressed the right button. Office does not return our calls and has been giving us bogus dates/time frames of when they will come back to fill it. I am ok with waiting but ignoring calls and giving us appointments and then not showing up is absolutely ridiculous. We are now on our 3rd scheduled appointment to back fill which at this rate they most likely will not show up. Level of professionalism is at a 0. Customer service is 0. The tech guy is the only one who answers us and he profusely apologizes each time. I cannot imagine the amount of pressure the techs are under. But this is unacceptable. If I could give less than one star, I would. I highly caution anyone looking for a sewer line replacement or any project requiring excavation. Roto Rooter caused a huge nightmare for me. They failed to get the project inspected, which caused the need to redo the project. That means they had to excavate my yard a second time due to shoddy work the first time. It took them over three months to complete the job. They broke several electrical lines, left dead shrubbery in my yard, broke my landscaping lights, and left various debris on my property.

The management clearly doesn't know what they are doing. Two managers gaslit me several times, manipulating the situation. The general manager clearly doesn't care because he never returned my emails or calls. These guys are not trustworthy and cause more harm than good. They are also very overpriced. Please think twice before hiring them. There are much better companies with integrity out there. It goes without saying that I would NEVER recommend this terrible company.

Never call Roto-Rooter for any service!! Our sump pump was not working and basement carpet was wet. We called Roto Rooter to help install new sump pump and mitigate the water damage. They said our insurance company will cover everything so we agreed to start the work but when we get the invoice for just the water damage part, it was overpriced. We tried to contact field supervisor and claim coordinator but they didn’t want to have a call with us. We only got a few emails saying that the payment is due soon. Below are more details:

    1. Invoice is overcharged. Since Roto Rooter knows our insurance company will cover up to $10,000, they tried to maximize the charge and invoiced us $14,500 which is not fair to customer. The quantities of equipment used for water damage mitigation on the invoices are not reasonable. The photos included in the invoice can’t support the quantities of equipment they charged on the invoice. We tried many times to connect with Roto-Rooter field supervisor and claim coordinator to get more explanations, but no one wants to have a call with us.

The only response we got was a few emails which didn’t provide any reasonable explanations about why the invoice was overcharged. They just kept saying that the invoice is due soon and we need to pay. We do want to pay but only to the extent the invoice has reasonable charge. Below are couple examples of the Equipment Log and breakdown in their Mitigation Claim report didn’t match their work. They listed a decent breakdown of charge but if you look into details, many items are not necessary or overcharged.

    a. They put around 10-15 air movers as proposed but they charged 20.
    b. Charged anti-microbial agent application for over 1000 square feet but our basement area is around 700-800 square feet.
    c. They charged you over $800 to install 220v power box without communicating with customer in advance.
    d. Trip numbers and hours were overcharged. Why you spent over two hours per trip? They charged you even on holiday which they didn’t send anyone here.
    e. The Equipment Log needs to be signed by customer but they didn’t ask for my signatures and didn’t go through the total quantities with us.

    f. Emergency after hour over charge. Worked here only two Saturdays but they charged more than that. In addition, agreed completion date was not achieved.

    2. As mentioned above, we tried to text and call Roto-Rooter field supervisor, Peter and claim coordinator, Patti but did not get responsive answer. Only email back and forth with Patti and she asked Louis ** and Doug ** to review it on 12/17 and also copied Customer Satisfaction Manager Pat ** but didn’t get any response. Followed up with Patti on 12/18 and she said she will let them reviewed EOBD 12/19. Until now we didn’t get any response.

    3. The contract stated the estimation is $5000 to $1000 so we signed the contract but when we tried to dispute with Roto-Rooter on the overcharged invoice, they stated there was a typo in the singed contract. This misled us to agree with the contract at the beginning of the job. The total amount was not communicated with customer and not transparency until we got final bill. Making customer feels ripped off and uncomfortable.

    4. One of my signature on log was forged (not my signature). Now we have the concern if they copied and paste my signature to wherever we didn’t agree. They didn’t give you the chance to read all documents when you signed on their phone.

Avoid Roto-Rooter at All Costs: A Cautionary Tale of Fraud, Deception, and Bullying. If you’re considering Roto-Rooter for your plumbing or mitigation needs, think again. My experience with the Newark, NJ branch of this company has been nothing short of a nightmare—a masterclass in deceptive practices,

inflated charges, and blatant disregard for customer service or accountability. The Nightmare Begins On 12/4/24, I contacted Roto-Rooter for what I assumed would be routine service—a clogged pipe in my basement. What followed was an outrageous sequence of events that culminated in thousands of dollars in unnecessary charges, threats of collections, and utter frustration.

Trumped-Up Charges and Manipulation. The technician started with a sky-high estimate of $30,000, a figure I immediately questioned. Despite my protests, I was assured this was “just a range” and not to be concerned: “I’m sending you the contract. Don’t be scared with the price—it’s just a range because I didn’t go there. It’s just a number we put. We can always go down, never up. But you’re covered by insurance.” This was a blatant lie. I was told they needed to “exact the water” and clean the walls to prevent mold. However, by the evening of 12/5/24, the basement was in worse condition than before! The clogged pipe remained untouched, and the flooding had escalated.

    The $27,000 Cleanup That Achieved Nothing. When I raised concerns, Roto-Rooter sent two additional plumbers, one of whom claimed the issue was a broken pipe beneath the sidewalk. This supposed “specialist” insisted that a $13,000 repair would be required on top of the $27,000 mitigation fee and the $1,872 water removal charge. When I asked for photographic evidence of the broken pipe, he admitted he had none but demanded I “trust him.” His exact words! “It’s okay because we will pump out the water; the pipe won’t get worse, I promise.” I knew something was wrong. Instead of falling for this outrageous scam, I contacted a smaller plumber I had used before. Within a day, they completed the mitigation, water removal, and pipe inspection for just $1,000. The result;

No broken pipe, no further flooding, and no $13,000 charge.

Roto Rooter’s Response: Excuses and Gaslighting. When I confronted Roto-Rooter with this information, their response was appalling. Emails to their representative (**) went unanswered. When they finally responded, they offered nothing but a generic apology, dismissing my concerns with this infuriating excuse: “You keep bringing up the estimated pricing for $13k, but it was NOT charged to you. It was mentioned, and you have no invoice for this amount!” This is a textbook case of gaslighting. The fact that I avoided being charged the $13,000 doesn’t erase their attempt to defraud me—or the $27,000 they still charged for a service that failed to resolve the issue.

Bullying Tactics and Threats. To make matters worse, Roto-Rooter has resorted to harassment. They are now threatening to report me to collections and ruin my credit if I don’t pay the full bill immediately. One representative even wrote: “Please know that with the signed contract, I am liable to collect the payment due.” This kind of bullying is unacceptable. No customer should be subjected to threats after exposing fraudulent practices.

A Final Warning to Future Customers. My experience with Roto-Rooter is not just about financial loss—it’s about a company exploiting homeowners in vulnerable situations. Their targeting of certain communities and reliance on inflated charges, false claims, and intimidation is deeply troubling. I am taking action. My attorney will be reaching out shortly, and I will ensure my story is heard across every possible outlet. I’ll be posting reviews on Google, Yelp, the Better Business Bureau, and social media. News networks will also be contacted.

To those considering Roto-Rooter: Avoid this company at all costs. Their actions are unethical, their services subpar, and their customer treatment abhorrent. Let my story serve as a warning to unsuspecting homeowners everywhere. Photos of the damage and documentation of this debacle will be provided so potential customers can see for themselves what $27,000 of “service” from Roto-Rooter looks like. Roto Rooter: Your bullying won’t work, and your fraudulent practices won’t go unchallenged.

Nobody wants to deal with a gurgling toilet that doesn’t empty and stinks up the house. Called the Cape Coral office in the morning and a tech was scheduled to come out later in the afternoon. And, he called to say that he was able to arrive earlier than originally booked. Steve, the tech, was awesome. He clearly explained the process for diagnosing our plumbing issue and associated costs. Our drain basically got a colonoscopy where a large blockage was discovered (we got to see it on a monitor). Steve told us how it was going to get fixed and then updated us as he progressed. He cleaned up afterwards. While we hope we never have to deal with this issue again, we would definitely call Roto-Rooter if we did.

CONSUMER BEWARE! ALWAYS get a second opinion! I SAVED nearly $6k by seeking a second quote. Roto-Rooter will try to take advantage of people whenever they can. They immediately went to the extreme rather than logical, seemingly easier ways to fix the problem. On 12/16/2024 I contacted Roto-Rooter because of a draining issue with my bathtub. A technician came out about 7:30 pm and evaluated the situation. We crawled in the crawl space and concluded that he was going to snake the line. He removed the toilet adjacent to the bath tub and proceeded to snake the line. He claimed he went the extent of his line (100 ft) and didn't resolve anything. The distance from the main to the street was no more than 35-40 feet. He proceeded to call a coworker who was going to camera the line. At his arrival, it was clear that he had jurisdiction over the initial technician and started calling the shots.

This second technician began painting the story that would require exploratory excavation of my front lawn with no guarantee that it would resolve the situation. In his explanation, he began telling me that this would have cost nearly $20k but because of their "new" pricing scheme, it would be "significantly" less... more like $10k. He continued to try to bait me with invalidated pricing anywhere from $17k to $10k which I assume was to try to get to a number I was comfortable with. I held my ground and refused to agree to their proposed work on the spot.

I asked him to email me his quote. His official quote was $6750.00 of which 50% was expected up front and was not comprehensive. In the quote they provided, it indicated "if further damage is found we will discuss options at that time." Additionally, they would not be able to start work until 12/18/2024. I was able to resolve the issue for $1k WITHOUT exploratory excavation. Moreover, the work was completed on 12/17/24. There is NO WAY I will call on these guys again!

This company charges way more so I thought I since it’s pricier it would be great but I can see it is not worth calling them to fix the problem. They only go for the money not helping clear the problem at all. Then the tech told me, "For your inconvenience I will jet the drain for you." Once he came out he gave me an excuse then. He said, "Well I can give you a discount." Then he changes it to, "Oh we can put the money you gave toward the jetting." Can’t even believe them anymore at all. This is sad and my basement still backing up when I use the washer.

I believe they deliberately made a pinhole in the supply line after coming to service the drain line. Buyer beware. A service man came to snake a kitchen sink. He went into the basement and opened an access panel to view the pipe from below. When he was done snaking. A supply line pipe (which is not the drain line) had a leak all of a sudden. He wanted to call his friend and charge me anywhere from 400 to 1000 more dollars to fix.

EDIT: First, I’ll mention while the repair tech that initially fixed my leak did so in a very timely manner, the reason for my initial “5 Star” review was created solely to receive $200 discount off their repair fee. As for the rest of my experience with Roto-Rooter, by far the worst service imaginable. From unprofessional scare tactics, to seemingly deliberate hiding of cost, to dysfunction between teams, to mishandling of filing claim, and overall disaster of customer service which led to immediate claim denial and mob-like behavior in collecting payment for their incredibly overpriced services.

The initial tech that arrived was only here to explain their services and plan of action. Expressing the time sensitive nature when filing a claim for leaks in order for any insurance to accept the claim. That if I shop around I may not be able use my homeowners insurance to cover the damages because the can no longer can be determined as cause by “initial onset.” The 2nd tech arrived to identify the source of the leak and repair. It was quite obvious where the source of the leak was in the garage, however, was using this time to upsell me for a full house inspection… I declined the full house inspection because again it was obvious where the leak was coming from. This service I had to pay out of pocket. $950 turned to $750 because I agreed to give them a 5 star review.

Now with the leak stopped and an unsightly hole in the ceiling of my garage, I continue to talk with the initial tech to follow Roto-Rooter’s plan of action to “properly” file a claim to my insurance. Roto-Rooter, as a part of their services, plans to file the claim on my behalf which must include their Mitigation Team to immediately start the drying of the area affected by the leak. Prior to agreeing to next steps, I asked in the event of denial the cost owed by me to which he Would not share because “he doesn’t do the Mitigation.” But he knows “Mitigation is necessary and must be done immediately in order to get the claim accepted.” Their repair bill was timed and the clock is ticking… The mitigation team of 2 techs that showed up also unable to share an estimate for tearing significantly more wall than was initially made to repair the single 12” pipe and set up fans making our garage inaccessible for a week.

After being instructed what next steps to expect and items to share to my insurance adjuster I was assured that Roto-Rooter's experience handling claims would be an easy, guaranteed process to receive accepted claim and coverage of costs ALSO needed to repair the sizable hole left by the mitigation team.

Well, between the lack of experience of Roto-Rooter techs and disconnect between teams ultimately resulted in a speedy and certain denial for the claim in which no costs will be reimbursed or offered to cover for any service related to the pipe leak.

Being confused to the outcome and looking for some clarification, I was immediately only met with a sizable bill and a relentless Collections Team. I was told that the Manager over the teams that “helped” me would reach out… not one message. When I followed up to ask to speak with this manager for clarification and share the fisad of services I experience, still no message and only pressing for payment. I can without a doubt say I will never use Roto-Rooter for any services again and I would strongly encourage others to look elsewhere. BUYER BEWARE!

Invoice paid in full ($2,950) before service received (Never again). Best job for the job arrived and he tapped danced around completing the job; he'd have to come back.

End story; job incomplete. Called supervisor, (remember invoice paid, which means he was paid). His response, I'll reach out to office to get some input. No return call; silence. Continually contacting, yes supervisor and as of the last, no response. The unfortunate fact is I reiterated to the initial technician the importance of getting this job completed before the opening of this Coin Laundry (yes, lot of water following out of the drain line) and we believed his bells and whistles.

If you are considering hiring RotoRooter in Omaha, Nebraska to clear your stopped up sewer line, please read on and see what kind of problems I ran into by using them. I didn't do enough research on this company nor did I read all of the negative reviews of their work before I contacted them. So here is your chance to avoid hiring them.

On September 30, 2024, my sewer line backed up and flooded an area around the basement floor drain. RotoRooter was called on October 1, and after a couple of hours of snaking the line failed to clear the clog, Mark ** from RotoRooter showed up on site to review my collapsed sewer line. He advised that the sewer service line under 111th Street was broken and that RotoRooter would excavate the city street and repair the sewer line.

A $30,000 contract was written and a couple of days later the RotoRooter construction crew showed up to begin the work. The sewer was out of service for 2 or 3 days and was repaired and put back in service around October 6. The site work was cleaned up and the crew loaded up and left without making any comments on the hole that they left in the city street. I suspected that the city would be out in a couple of days to make repairs to the city street and replace the concrete where RotoRooter had jack hammered.

After a couple of weeks without any work being done, I contacted the city to see when they had the replacement of concrete on their schedule and was advised that RotoRooter had not gotten the permits for the work, and that they were unaware of the hole in the street that they would have to fix. That was about October 15. I contacted Mark ** and advised him of what I had been told by the city and he told me that the city only needed some paperwork from RotoRooter advising the city that RotoRooter had finished their work and that the city could proceed with the concrete repair to the street.

After another 2 weeks, it is now November 7, I contacted Pat **, the RotoRooter Customer satisfaction manager, and was told that he would be in contact with the RotoRooter local branch to get the job moving. Two more weeks went by and still no work, so I contacted Pat **n again on November 20 and a couple of days later RotoRooter sent a couple of guys out with a bobcat and they cleaned out the two feet of mud in the excavation and backfilled it with sand and compacted it.

On November 25, the city of Omaha inspector showed up and checked the compaction and finalized the inspection. I have had barricades, signs and flashing lights in front of my house for the last 2 months. The city's street repair crew showed up on December 3 and poured concrete. The Todco 'Street Repairs Ahead' Warning Signs were taken down and placed in my yard on December 5 and then removed from the site on December 6. So the project is finally completed after 67 days. So if you are planning any sewer work at your place, please consider the problems that have been going on with my job and think about contacting a different contractor than RotoRooter for the work.

On November 21st 2024 I called Roto Rooter of Schaumburg to come out and investigate a foul order. I specifically asked if there would be a charge to come out and the phone rep told me that the diagnostic was free. Within an hour of the call Service Tech Eddie was here, he confirmed the odor and did a walk-thru of our establishment. The smell was coming from a crack in the floor where our sewer line runs past (about 30 feet away from our bathrooms) separated by two walls. Eddie says, "Well your toilets are loose." I acknowledged that and stated that was not where the smell was coming from. He said that it could!!! BUT IT IT'S NOT!!! He stated that he would have to get a camera guy out to investigate.

At that moment I had to take a call from corporate regarding this issue. When I returned Eddie had already removed the loose toilet without my approval. I was stunned and asked him why he removed the toilet, he tried showing me he phone quickly saying he had approval. He was never authorized to remove the toilet. He proceeded to tell me the fee for resetting the toilet $550.00. That's insane.

At this point we have no choice but to have him reset the toilet which was not the problem. It was a clogged sewer line on the other side of the building. Eddie then proceeded to give me a blank invoice with no dollar amount to sign and stated he could not leave without a signature. He also stated that our toilets were not commercial grade and recommended that we replace them. He also said that the camera guy could not come out until the next day to camera the line. The next day comes and the camera guy arrived, he ran the camera through a clean out (not the toilet), finds the clog where the smell was coming from "(about 30 feet away from our bathrooms)", shows me the video and we authorize him to proceed.

There where 2 things to be done I asked the technician to install a valve for a new dishwasher washer, and I asked if he could install a handle valve for the main water to the house next to the hot water heater and he said yes. The technician instead changed the order to install the valve to the hot water heater only and without my permission to do so. If the technician notified me of this change I would have said no to it. I knew the valves open and close because I closed it myself only a few months ago for a hot water heater leak. The technicians defense was that he could not turn the valve which was a complete lie. I could turn the valve but it was tight. He states that it wouldn’t move and that was the reason for him to put a valve to the hot water heater.

The cost would have ran me $700 but he gave me $200 off the price and said he would come back and do the thing for a discount but I would have never done the job in the first place if I had known what he was doing. I reside in Los Angeles, California. Recently, I experienced a clogged shower and contacted Roto-Rooter for assistance in resolving the issue. A technician named Manny (#1752) arrived on November 29, 2024, to address the problem. After I explained the situation to him, he requested to inspect our sewer cleanout and proceeded to explore the property. Ultimately, he accessed the crawl space beneath the house and located the cleanout. Upon opening the cap, he identified the cause of the blockage as a lump of tissue paper lodged at a T-junction. He presented two options for unclogging the drain, one utilizing a less expensive method (the name of which I do not recall, but it was approximately $500) and the other involving hydrogen, which he quoted at around $1,500.

After discussing the options with my wife on-site, we opted for the hydrogen method. However, he indicated that he would first attempt to manually unclog the drain through the cleanout itself. He re-entered the crawl space and was able to dislodge the tissue; unfortunately, this action resulted in a sewage spill on the crawl space floor, which caused a significant odor to permeate our basement, as it is connected to the crawl space. He requested that I retrieve bleach from the house, which he claimed to pour over the "small" amount of sewage, asserting that this would suffice. However, the situation had only just begun.

While he was dusting himself off and explaining how he had saved me a considerable amount of money by entering the crawl space without prior approval from his supervisor, I received a call from a number in Long Beach, California. Unsure of the caller's identity, I was initially reluctant to answer, but Manny suggested it could be their dispatch. Upon answering, I discovered that the caller was indeed from Roto-Rooter, identifying himself as part of the water restoration and sewage cleanup department. He mentioned that he was aware of our plumbing issue and wished to offer assistance. I informed him about the sewage spill caused by Manny; however, Manny, who was present, gestured for me not to disclose that he had entered the crawl space and caused the spill.

I also inadvertently mentioned the application of bleach, which Manny again suggested I should not have revealed. The cleanup representative indicated he would be on his way after completing another job. Subsequently, Manny opened a ticket on his phone, documenting that "the client went under the house to open the cleanout valve and caused a sewage spill, also pouring bleach." He indicated that he completed this report to avoid getting into trouble. Ultimately, I paid a discounted rate of $300 for Manny's services via credit card and also provided him with a $100 cash tip.

Following this, the sewage cleanup technician, Richard, arrived. I guided him to the crawl space, where he proceeded to inspect the area. He continuously inquired about the location of the spill, and I informed him that his colleague had identified it near the cleanout valve/cap. However, he claimed that he could not locate the valve/cap and stated he was unable to venture further into the crawl space but observed some of the spill. Despite my insistence that he was not close to where Manny had been, he maintained that he could not advance any further. Richard took several photographs and emerged from the crawl space, displaying an image that was not clear enough for me to assess the spill accurately. He then asserted that he was not authorized to enter the crawl space, yet based on what he had seen, the remediation cost would estimate to approximately $2,500.

When I questioned why he had come to my residence if he was unable to conduct a proper assessment, and how he could arrive at such a figure without a thorough evaluation, he appeared visibly agitated by my inquiries and reiterated that, based on his experience, such jobs typically cost that amount. He then advised that it might even require more extensive work, necessitating the involvement of their main technician, Fabian, who would provide a final assessment and cost based on his evaluation for the underwriter. Richard indicated he would draft a contract and return to me shortly.

After approximately 30 minutes in his vehicle, he came back, stating he had consulted with his manager and that Fabian could come to my residence on Sunday, December 1, 2024, but only if I signed a contract agreeing to a cost range between $2,500 and $7,500, with their assurance that it would not exceed that amount. I inquired why Fabian could not assess the situation first to provide an accurate cost estimate, allowing me to make an informed decision. Richard insisted that I had to sign the contract before the cleanup technician could enter the property. I firmly declined and requested that he leave. Subsequently, I received a recommendation for a plumber from my local bath and kitchen supply store, who successfully completed the sewage cleanup for a significantly lower cost than what Roto-Rooter had proposed, far less than their estimates. This experience left me with several concerns:

    1. Manny, an employee of Roto-Rooter, was responsible for the initial sewage spill; however, he conveyed the impression that he was providing me with a favor, to the extent that I felt compelled to offer him a gratuity of $100, while ultimately shifting the responsibility onto me. 2. The subsequent barrage of solicitations for services was both unsettling and unmistakable, revealing that the sole intent was to offer unnecessary services at exorbitant rates. 3. Adding to my dissatisfaction, I received another communication from the company on November 30, 2024, in which they extended an offer for a complimentary camera service to inspect our pipes, while my wife received a separate call promoting services related to water quality. I will certainly refrain from utilizing this company in the future and wish to ensure that others are informed of their deceptive practices.

We called this company to come in and check why we are getting backed up. Told us the jet is the best option to clear out any blockages. We went for it despite the wildly expensive price of $1.6k. The jet did nothing. They also kept making excuses as to why they couldn’t use the camera and claimed they couldn’t see unless they clear the blockage, despite the camera being included in the price. After a few hours of focusing on one pipe, they concluded that the job couldn’t be done, and said we probably need to dig out the pipes, which would cost a whopping $8k. On top of the $1k we just paid for them to fix absolutely NOTHING and break our stair tile taking the machinery back up outside.

We had another local plumber come in to check it out, and they fixed the issue within an hour. Turns out that it wasn’t an issue with the main line, but rather wooden blockage in one line in the BACKYARD. Completely different issue from what this company claimed. And all for less than $1k. I’m absolutely appalled by the audacity of this company. And even more by the supervisor that accompanied the plumber, who suggested we just scrape every dollar we can get just to spend it on an unnecessary pipe dig-out, after telling him we can’t afford it. And for an issue they weren’t even certain of. I will be warning EVERYONE about this awful company.

I wish stars could have negative signs in front of them. I thought I made the right decision contacting Roto Rooter to assist me with my toilets not flushing and sinks holding water, was I wrong and I should have used another company. First off the visit I scheduled was from 4pm-6pm. The tech didn’t show up until after 8pm. I should have turned him away, but me wanting to give the benefit of the doubt due to Thanksgiving being this Thursday I gave him a chance.

The tech appeared to not be well versed in what needed to be done. However he knew how to collect payment before any work was ever done. He then began the work and he’s having a hard time. I asked was he ok. He informed me that I got a free camera inspection since I paid for the service but everybody was off and nobody wanted to come. It was in that moment had he said based on not having anyone available he would have to reschedule me until today. I would have respected that more. Instead of that he proceeds to get the tools out of his van and while he was inside my home in the bathroom he’s very loudly cursing and if he felt uncomfortable he should have said something again. He didn’t.

At 11 o clock nothing had been done. He informed me that the snake was stuck and he would return in the morning, he didn’t tell me he cut my water off from the main valve so my kids and I woke up to no water…. He arrives this morning and this time accompanied by his supervisor and still nothing. They want me to pay 3,000 additional dollars for their technician's negligence. I will not…. He should have waited. I understand my home is older but he could have waited to ensure what I paid for got done.

So I’m still without flushing toilets and standing water in my sink in addition to a plumber snake being stuck under one of my toilets.. This is the worst experience by far, I will never. I am so disgusted with the entire experience. The gm hasn't responded or called me back in regard to the situation and the supervisor is saying his tech isn't wrong. How…and I have an even bigger issue based on what his technician did. 10/10 I do not and will not recommended this company, very inconsiderate, very unprofessional, and I'm going to have to pay for their tech's mess up and my initial issue still isn't resolved and thanksgiving is tomorrow…. And no one seems to. Are this is beyond me.

RR came and got the toilet working. $861. I was told by the assessor not to call insurance that RR would handle the entire thing and I would not see a bill. I got a bill for the water mit and then a past due bill. These are the things that went wrong- When I checked the house the next morning, the front door was wide open!

They tracked sewer water all through the house. There was a thick grimy dust on every single thing in the downstairs because they failed to contain the blowers. They left a mess on the carpet. They left the dryer vent unattached

I contacted the mgr, Rich and he basically said I could clean up the mess they left. I then reached out to the GM, Scott. At first I thought he would help, but he never apologized instead said they the containment was done correctly and it sometimes comes loose. He said he didn’t look at the photos I sent and told me that the house was already dirty. That’s very unprofessional.

Finally after many ignored calls, emails texts I filed a complaint and the mgr called me. I was told we had to pay the bill and then they could refund for damage. I was told that RR doesn’t have insurance for damage but it would have to come out of the money we paid them. They are not reliable!! Overcharge and ruin homes!! Also want to mention that when the contractor pulled the toilet, there was a plastic object down in the water. Still not sure what that is. I added some pictures but there are too many to put on here.

I own a two family house and unfortunately, I called 'Rectal' Rooter to fix a clogged bathtub. For reference, when you turn the water on in the bathroom sink it overflowed into the bathtub. Plumber came out to 'fix' the draining issue in the second floor. First floor was completely vacate. Once I got renters in their bathroom plumbing wouldn't drain. Can you believe this company wouldn't honor their warranty/guarantee. They unclogged it in the basement... Honestly the first plumber clearly just pushed all the cramp from the second floor to the basement. Oh here's the kicker, they sent out an apprentice the second time around and he punched a hole in my p-trap that they also charged me for... Nice guy but another guy showed up to train him on the job. This was just a horror story that my wallet had to suffer.

Got a 2nd opinion and they found the problem right away and the cost to fix it was cheaper than what roto Scammer wanted to “find” the issue. Also tried selling me that I need a new pipe to the city sewer line even though I have a septic tank and no sewer. When asked about the price I was told it could be upwards of $10k. This was my first time ever using Roto-Rooter. I scheduled a service call for a leak at my water meter in-put valve. Three service men showed up the morning of 11-1-2024. We discussed the repairs. An invoice was created (estimate #** job #**) with an estimate of $869.96. I ask, "So when can you complete the work?" They answer, "Today but would need to leave to get the parts from the Greater Cincinnati Water Works, and return later." However before leaving they said they could smell gas. So they sprayed the gas meter down with soapy water. But could not find any signs of a leak so they left. I put in an emergency call for a gas leak to Duke Energy. They sent a tech out immediately who determine there was no leak anywhere in my home.

I received a call from Roto-Rooter later that day informing me the service tech who was supposed to return had a family emergency. And would not be able to make it back. And would it be ok if someone returned tomorrow. A service tech showed up the next day. Was at my home for 45 minutes turning off the water outside. Then he left for 45 minutes to go to Home Depot to get the part he needed. Spent 30 minutes changing a 3/4" Ball/Gate valve. That once he was finished did not function properly and appeared to be broken. It's not leaking anymore, but you can't turn off the water before the meter. Leaving me with basically the same problem. He created a new invoice/job #** for $665.74.

Here is where I have a problem. The tech charged me for work/parts he didn't replace. He changed (1) 3/4" Ball/Gate valve that doesn't function properly. And charged me for (2) at $153.66 each. This was the $25.00 part from Home Depot that it took him 45 minutes to go get. Then another $358.42 for a (3/4 copper water line-exposed up to 2"). He used the existing fitting because he couldn't break the connector on the meter. Yet charged me for a part he didn't replace. This is poor customer service and not a good look for your company. I will be calling your office first thing in the morning. Requesting a supervisor visit to my home, and a full refund. First impressions matter Roto-Rooter!!!

I'm not a plumber but even I could smell trouble, & in less than 2 days it was blocked again. The charge was $453... to have my sink drain for 2 days...$226 a DAY to drain my sink. I called the business & the boss cheerily said they'd come back out to do the job again...which they did...and then charged me AGAIN! Now nearly $870! I called to ask why the 2nd charge to complete the ONE job they'd said they would do & got no response. Finally, in my most condescending tone asked, was the 1st $400+ bill just a Trophy for showing up? No reply but the bills stopped. Now, less than 2 years later it's clogged up again! What a job, huh? When I called Roto-rooter's national office a "Beth" responded.

When I recounted the double charge, she (I'm not making this up!) told me I OWED the incompetent 1st guy because he "showed up and did his best!" Evidently, doing an adult job is an alien concept for the RR company! It's been a week and I still haven't talked to anyone in authority, no calls returned, but, really, does that even matter if they have no standards? I need to have my drain work, but why call RR? They've shown me how they deal w/ customers! My warning to anyone in my position: Demand a written guarantee. Don't assume 1st world work standards because America is, evidently, a 3rd world nation. I don't usually write bad reviews but this company deserves it. I scheduled an appointment to have our sump pump for the basement bathroom fixed or replaced by Huntington Roto-rooter. The tech gets to my home, unplugs the pump and plugs it back in. He then tells me it needs to be replaced. He quoted $939 + labor and materials. I told the guy no way.. a 1/2 pump is $299 at Home Depot. He basically calls me a liar and walks outside. He then sat in front of my house for 20 minutes talking crap about me. I will NEVER use them EVER!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and STAY AWAY!!!

Technician Bernhard one of the worst people I've ever met stood in my basement and lied to my face about what was going on with my plumbing issue. (All I needed was a new expansion tank) I was told by Bernhard that my expansion tank was good and my water pressure was too high. So he lowered the water pressure, made homemade bracket and made seem like he was doing me this huge favor by not charging me $800.00. So what he actually changed me for (1 screw loosened and 2 screws tighten) was $409.00. Also the woman scheduling the appointments had a very condescending attitude. Please learn from my $409.00 mistake. Don't ever call Roto Rooter.

He didn't completely clear the drain, disconnected the washer and moved it from where it was. He didn't reconnect the washing machine and left it where he moved it. So now a 92 year old man has to try to go down the stairs (he's very unsteady on his feet) and try to reconnect the washer and push it back where it belongs. Thanks for NOTHING Roto-Rooter! When I called and complained the person at Roto-Rooter didn't even know what a torch Tech was. The plumber I hired laughed and said that must be a made-up name. As a first time home owner and landlord facing a main sewer line backup, while 3k miles away, I turned to what I thought was a trusted national brand. I did not suspect that I would be taken advantage of, negotiated with under duress and my inexperience exploited. I fell victim to the company’s long existing scam, executed precisely as it is laid out in the 2011 Minnesota class action suit against Rotor-Rooter.

“This case arises out of Defendant’s common pattern and practice of systematically pressuring homeowners into unnecessary repair jobs by misleading them into thinking they had a much greater plumbing problem than they actually did,” the Roto-Rooter class action lawsuit states. “Defendant preyed on the desperation and inexpertness of consumers seeking emergency plumbing services — often homeowners suffering from the sudden complete loss of water use in their residences — to charge exorbitant sums.” - **. Rotor-Rooter never unclogged the drain between Aug 7th-Sept 4th after multiple visits, charged $4600 for water clean-up, $3200 for plumbing and $1,200 for initial snake which did not clear the line. The toilet paper blockage was eventually fixed by a local company American Rooter in under two hours for $480.

ATTENTION ALL NEW AND OLD HOMEOWNERS… Please take this review seriously! I hired Roto-Rooter due to my toilet gurgling and not flushing properly along with a wet spot in my yard. You absolutely know it’s a bad company when the employees give you the run down on the company and how they do things in a negative way. The tech told me how the pipe imagining tech (BRAD) likes to go to the extreme in regard to repairs. I had a sewer line blockage that the tech couldn’t block. We scheduled a camera scope of the sewer line for the following week. The camera image tech name (BRAD) came out, didn’t even bother with the proper measures of identifying the blockage nor bothered with the camera scope at all.

He seen the wet spot in the yard and went to the extreme (sewer line patch with a T-fit and riser/cap for sewer line clean out purposes). Brad claimed I didn’t have a sewer line clean out at my property and quoted me 5200 for the work. The work detailed them digging in the front yard 5-6ft to access the pipe. Due to the fact that I didn’t know if I had a sewer line clean out or not, being this is my FIRST HOME and time dealing with such a problem.. He called me two days straight at 7:30am, urgently trying to get a crew out to begin with work. I found it a bit suspicious. So I called another company for a second opinion. The company out and properly checked everything and YOU GUESTED IT THE OTHER COMPANY FOUND MY SEWER LINE AND ACTIVE CLEAN OUT!

They performed a hydro jet high pressure procedure on my sewer line (PROBLEM SLOVED) turns out I had a slight line blockage. I told the plumber of what Roto- Rooter had suggested. HIS WORDS NOT MINE: "Sir they were trying to rob you! You have a sewer line with a already installed sewer clean out. Let me guess they charged you 6-8 grand for a replacement, just for them to come out to replace a (already functioning sewer line)." Read the other reviews we all are saying the same things. $100 tab turns into a 6-12 grand fix. Rotor Rooter wanting to dig in your yard. PRICE GOUGING, digging in the wrong spot and not even finding the pipe they intended to find. To the legitimacy if even Roto-Rooter plumbers are even licensed plumbers to begin with.. Trust me. Do not hire these crooks. The BEST 200 BUCKS I SPENT (WITH ANOTHER COMPANY NOT NAMED ROTO ROOTER).

I used Roto-Rooter services in Livonia, MI. I had a good experience with the hydro-flush team and plumbing team. When we spoke to the PM for the cleaning crew, he said that it might be about $xxxx but his crew would know better. The cleaning crew was nice and seemed to do a good job until I received the bill. It was over twice as much. They know how much I received from insurance.

I asked when I would receive the bill and was told that it would be that day after the equipment was turned in. It took them 8 days to get me a bill. I called a few days later after reviewing the detailed bill to discuss some discrepancies and spoke to someone who said I would receive a call back in 24-48hrs. I received no call back. The company reached out over a week later (without knowing that I called the number on the bill and spoke to someone) asking for payment and I let them know that I called the number on the bill to inform them of my discrepancies. I talked her through my discrepancies again.

That afternoon, she requested everything in email, which I did that same day. Three days later I received a call from the office again just to talk through my discrepancies for the 3rd time but not resolve anything. During these phone calls, I was promised a resolution in a couple days on more than one occasion. On the last phone call, they requested my Ring videos but I did not figure out how to pull them down and send them (probably too big to email anyways) within 36hrs so my Ring plan deleted them since it had been 30 days at this point since the cleaning was done. I had not had to use my Ring videos before so I didn't know how to access the videos or check my plan. They keep throwing in my face that I didn't get them videos in 36hrs before they deleted but I could not get them to respond to a phone call or email in less than 3 days or more.

My main discrepancies included the time they were at my house cleaning and the time that the machines were on in my basement or should have been on. They left the machines for 3 days but asked my husband to turn off 3 of the machines the first night. They also claim that they had a special truck at my house to haul away non-salvageable items. At no point was there a special truck (only one truck) or did they haul away anything except a few garbage bags that would fit into a SUV. We didn't lose any furniture. We had less than 2" of water in the center of our basement which was mostly covered by exercise mats that they cleaned.

It is now 8/12 and the work was done 6/21-6/24. We still don't have a resolution that I agree with. They did lower the price a little based on a couple discrepancies after 1.5 months since the work was done but there are a couple other costly discrepancies. I have a couple of pics and videos that still prove things otherwise.

    Original Review: July 8, 2024

We had a bathtub clog that I couldn't remove and it was 4th of July weekend so we called them. They showed up relatively quickly however they sent an inexperienced technician and he used a mechanical agar down my drain and gave us an estimate of 2 hours to clear the drain. I am no plumber however I know you don't need to use a high powered mechanical agar to clear a bathtub drain and it shouldn't take 2 hours but it was a holiday so I agreed.

After he put the agar in and turned it on he ran water to see if it cleared the clog and checked my plumbing access since I had old pipes and noticed there was now a massive hole in my pipe. My husband went down the basement and noticed the bathroom downstairs was now flooded. He said he couldn't fix it and that he would call around to see if a plumber was available. A plumber did show up relatively quickly and seemed competent and put a new p trap on at an expensive price. However during this process he dropped the old p trap on my sink and broke a chunk off. All in all my shower is now useable but I had a bunch of unnecessary damage from this one service that I could have maybe done myself with way less damage.

I called Roto Rooter to come out and snake/hydro-jet my sewer line in April. Someone came out as I requested, but hydro-jetted without using a camera to see what the cause of the water backup (clear drain water at the time I called) was. He began to get sewage (he initially told me it was ‘brown water’) back and did not discontinue the hydro-jet use until over 50% of my basement was flooded with sewage. He called his manager and the water restoration unit to come out to correct the problem. I’m thinking they’re just going to clean up their mess. The manager arrives and is very pushy in asking for my home insurance information. He told me ‘I’ll tell you what today to the insurance’. \

I provided the information as I had no other option- there was raw sewage in my house. This occurred on a Saturday. I told the people doing the cleaning that I would be home only after 5 PM during the work week for them to come check on the equipment and drying process. A different tech called everyday during the work week wanting to come out when I was at work. The company is based out of Baltimore and I live in DC. They told me they would ‘reschedule’ each day. No one came to get the equipment or check on the process until the following Monday.

I then get a bill from Roto Rooter in excess of $9,000, stating they were charging me for the ‘extra days’ the equipment was there. The woman in billing (Wendy) stated their GPS shows they were ‘in the area’ on certain days. In the area does not equal at my house at the time I told you I would be home. Wendy is very accusatory and argumentative via email (all of which I saved). Even my insurance company said they had never heard of a plumber making an issue worse, and advised me to see if the company would just correct their mistakes. Nearly three months later, they have refused to budge on the bill, and have never apologized for their negligence. I also never got an answer to what the initial problem was. I was told someone would come to investigate with a camera and that never happened. Avoid at all costs.

Roto-Rooter responder said the cost to repair the PVC pipe and attach a garden faucet would cost $492. Not knowing how to fix the problem and the water being off, agreed to the cost. Person said had to go to Home Depot for the parts. Bought approximately $20 worth of parts but when it came to paying the bill the person said, “we increase the cost of the parts by 2 times the amount we paid.” So the total bill was $546.49 or almost $50 dollars more than originally quoted. Aftermath is feeling deceived and overcharged. Will never use the service again and will spread the word to all those I know.

We called Roto-Rooter for an estimate and they just showed up. At the time, we were happy, as we were desperate. The guys were nice. They did a little work, put some fans out to dry up the crawlspace and charged $11,000! I am in shock. They call every day, and somehow they have my email address, though I didn't give it to them. In response to the last email, I requested an itemized bill. I was not rude. I simply told the truth - my mom's entire basement flooded and she was left with standing water there for days. She was away when it happened, and the petsitter didn't bother to tell her. The company she used charged much less. The response I got to my request for an itemized bill was to call her. I want something tangible I can look at, and have a professional look at to see if this amount is justified. I don't think that is too much to ask. Please don't use this company.

We had a water leakage in our basement. We called Roto Rooter and their technician fixed the leakage issue. There was a water damage in the laundry and boiler area. Then Roto Rooter water management specialist visited and assessed the damage. We informed him that we need repairs only in the laundry and boiler area. Next day Roto Rooter employees arrived and again we informed them that we need repairs only in the laundry and boiler areas.

We trusted them and allowed to remove water damaged carpets and wooden panels. But they removed carpets and wood panels throughout basement with our our approval and they didn't notify us. When we visited the basement we were shocked to see this. We asked them, "Why you removed the carpets and wooden panels in other areas" - other than laundry and boiler areas. We asked them to stop the work and leave. We also called water management specialist and informed about this unnecessary work. This created financial burden and stress.

In the early morning of Saturday May 25, 2024 I experienced a broken water pipe located under the concrete slab in my hallway of my home I reached out to Roto Rooter at around 7:40 am and they told me they would have a water restoration field supervisor out between 9 and 11 am. Once they arrived it was determined that the best repairs approach to the broken water pipe under my slab would be to replace and reroute the entire water system up and through my attic and down to the all of the water used connections in my house.

It seemed like a good idea at the time when I was told by D. ** excavation field supervisor that this is a proactive approach that insurance companies approved all the time. He stated that my insurance company would pay up to 80% of the total cost. I was sold on the idea and ready to go. The next steps caught me off guard when I was told that I would have to pay upfront before the work could begin. Understand that I was overwhelmed by the whole busted pipe and standing water in 70% of my home so I gave them a check for the full amount/Cost of $18,732.00 to cover the complete cost that would cover all of the indoor piping and replacing the water line from the water meter up to my home.

The work that took place in my yard required a trench to be dug from the water meter to the walkway to the right side of my garage. The crew elected to saw cut my walkway instead of boring to save my walkway but they cut it anyway. The trench was supposed to be 18" deep minimum but the certified expert crew had it at 6" deep on average which was unacceptable. I brought it up to the field crew and D. **, and after I said it needed to be lowered to a safe depth they pulled the line back out and started to make it correct so I went back into my house. I came back out about 10 minutes later and the same shallow ditch was back again. I finally gave up and went back inside my house. The work taking place inside my home was expertly done by M. ** and B. ** they took pride in their work and you could tell they were both very experienced.

The management side of Roto Rooter was nonexistent after the initial date of Saturday May 25, 2024. Attempts to reach them were unsuccessful going forward with the exception of the call I made to D. ** on Wednesday May 29th to report the poor performance of the excavation crew. I was told that my check given to Roto Rooter would not be cashed until the work was completed to my satisfaction which was cashed with my bank on Thursday May 30th. I could go on and on with my review of my experience with Roto Rooter but I'll end with this...

Use Roto Rooter at your own risk, their reviews state quote clearly that the Roto Rooter of today can't hold a candle to the Roto Rooter of old. Out of over 900 plus reviews posted they have a extremely low rating of 1.4 for a reason and I'm just one of many dissatisfied customers that expected more and got way less. Bottom line here is don't fall for the deception and lies that I went through. I hope corporate sees this post/review and makes it right.

Unethical Practices and Incompetent / Bad Actor Technicians. Our recent experience with Roto Rooter has been extremely disappointing, highlighting severe unethical behavior and unprofessionalism within their organization. One of their technicians came to fix our garbage disposal and said that he preferred payment in cash. Without our knowledge, he documented that we went with another provider. Despite purportedly "fixing" the garbage disposal, he damaged it. It started leaking shortly after, flooding our cabinet and causing significant water damage to our wooden kitchen floors. When we reached out to Roto-Rooter for help, they refused to assist, citing the absence of an invoice. This was despite the fact that they should be held accountable for the actions of their employees under agency law, where a company is liable for the acts of their employees under their scope of employment.

After speaking with two managers, we were repeatedly told that nothing could be done without an invoice and they informed us that many clients try to "scam" them with these types of complaints. What a wonderful position for a customer to be in -- damaged property by a Roto Router technician and the company saying they will not do anything to resolve the damage caused by their own tech. Also, the technician in question conveniently left the company shortly after servicing us, further raising suspicions about Roto-Rooter's hiring practices and internal controls. It appears that this behavior is part of a broader pattern that Roto-Rooter condones--unethical company practices, hiring bad actors as technicians and leaving the client with hundreds of dollars in damages for which the company itself is liable.

*** I strongly recommend avoiding Roto-Rooter and opting for a trusted local plumber instead. Our experience with Roto-Rooter has been marred by unethical practices and incompetent technicians that ultimately left us with further damage and a hefty bill.

I had a technician come out to inspect my sewage line and was told, after the camera was used, that there were “tree roots” growing through my pipes and that it had collapsed in the back yard. After consulting an ACTUAL plumber, neither of those things were even remotely true. This technician, Tiko, had mistaken the CITY SEWAGE MAIN for my own pipe and then detailed that they would need to go through my concrete foundation to fix it for $15k. Ultimately, this was completely unnecessary, as I later learned that the pipe under my foundation was cast iron and not even in need of being replaced.

The plumber who I went with was dumbfounded that someone would have gone through the foundation for this issue. Either this technician was trying to take advantage of young, first-time homeowners or is just simply not an efficient and knowledgeable plumber. Either way is terrible and I was almost scammed out of 15k for a solution that was not at all necessary. For anyone trying to find a plumber, go for Michaels and Sons. Even A1 was more knowledgeable and gave me a much more reasonable quote.

DO NOT USE ROTO ROOTER. We just moved into our home, had a drain clog “pretty far down” from our master shower/toilet. The initial tech was very nice but after having to move the toilet to clear the clog and telling us everything was good to go. Once he left (and charged us $760) we find brown smudges all over our walls and toilet and are left with sewage in the shower. Later that night we go to the basement and DIRECTLY BELOW the toilet he moved there’s water all over the floor and behind our wall.

The next day we had 2 field supervisors “follow up” just to tell us this is common, 1 suggesting for $130 he’ll cut into the wall and probably find nothing and the 2nd using a thermocamera to tell us we’re looking at sewage behind the wall and they’ll charge us $3000 just to remediate the potential mold but NOT fix the drywall!! But only 3 days after someone comes to check with a camera (still hasn’t happened) to make sure they didn’t crack the pipe. Why wasn’t a camera used first?? If this happens all the time why aren’t they warning people? So now we’re looking at a $10,000 charge from a remediation & remodeling company and an insurance claim all because Roto Rooter doesn’t know how to drain a freaking toilet!! DO NOT USE THEM THEY SUCK.

Roto told me they could not change my sewer line down to the street because it was too deep and charged me $6500 to replace a 15ft line where tree roots had grown into the old clay pipe. I since then had two other companies come out and say they absolutely can replace it to the street and for $5000. In the process they cut down a fence without asking and despite several requests and telling me they would, they never returned to help. They also got all the measurements wrong in a remediation, and left out an entire closet in their diagram.

Once they get your money, it's hard to get any kind of communication from them. It took over two weeks from when the work had finished to even get the final report sent to insurance, and when they did it was to an old insurance claim number, so insurance never got it. It took over an additional week for them to finally send it correctly. Do not use their services. If you have an emergency and call them, don't be an idiot like me and get a second opinion before they convince you, which they will try, that you need immediate remediation and to sign the contract right away.

I'm pretty sure, actually I'm not just pretty sure, I'm DAMN SURE that I was overcharged for my simple toilet tank repair. The technician Marqui who fixed my toilet basically just replaced a couple of parts, flapper and toilet flushing handle/rod (which both probably run only about $10 each). So I was charged close to $400 just for the labor. The total cost was $418 for about 30 minutes of labor! Gotta love how they don't break down the pricing, like seriously, how do you come up with $418?

Another issue I had was when I brought up the $75 off repair discount, Marqui wouldn't honor it and informed me that the reason the discount couldn't be used was that the flapper was replaced, and I wasn't charged for the flapper?? Roto-Rooter must be raking in the moolah ;-)! Sorry, Roto-Rooter, I will probably be using an honest and affordable plumber in the future! Apparently, Roto-Rooter has a history of overcharging customers for unnecessary work— ** Hey, I'm also beginning to wonder if Pat, Customer Service Manager, exists -- replied to her over 5 hrs ago about 2 min after Pat's response to my review and STILL waiting to hear back from him/her LOL!

OK, UPDATE -- About 5 min after leaving this last bit of info, I receive a call from Brian/Bryan I believe from accounting and he proceeds to tell me that Pat only goes through him, not directly with the customer. Anyway, he tries telling me that he can honor the $75 off now, after I’ve posted negative reviews. I get soooo pissed off and I'm like, the tech Marqui was supposed to have done that yesterday when I had the service done. I actually refuse the $75 refund and I'm like, I'd rather keep my negative reviews up if it helps anyone take their business elsewhere!! AND sadly, this guy from accounting didn’t have any idea about the breakdown of $418 and the way in which that amount was determined.

I got in contact with Roto Rooter originally on their website to book an appointment. I manage the property in VA, but was not local at the time so I only had distant contact with the company. The online booking was convenient, and that is where the good news ends. They called me 4 times the day of to first remind me of my appointment, which is standard, then to let me know who my technician was, then to notify me it would be later, and again to cancel the appointment. Only two of the calls came from the same number, which made it difficult to keep track of who was who to say the least. They didn’t call to reschedule, I had to call them.

The second appointment went slightly better. Once again, call to notify me of my technician, then a call from the technician when they arrived, and then every single subsequent action. Over 7 calls this go around. They have no way to process billing online, and told me that was the reason they could not email me the bill to pay and instead had to give the details of payment over the phone to the technician. Which doesn’t seem like a great idea, but they weren’t offering up any other options. It was extremely pricey for the minimal services they were offering. And it got progressively worse and significantly more expensive the longer they went on. When all the work was completed, I was so relieved to just be done with it that I wasn’t overly phased at the bill until after. This would be where it ends if this were a 2.5 star sort of review.

It’s been a few months now, and the issues are back, slightly less severe, but still present and very irritating. I’ve been working with a different, local, company and so far, it’s been much better. Effective communication, reasonable response times and fair prices. A completely opposite experience. I will never work with them again and I definitely won’t be recommending them.

In response to my previous review the manager Aaron had reached out to me and brought with him a coworker. I forget his name. They both were amazing! Here to find out we had bigger issues going on than what the technician would have been able to see. He was great at explaining what he believes might be happening. He’s explaining everything to our village administration for us. I feel at ease knowing we are headed in a step in the right direction. He was very informative and continues to check in on us. He gave us a couple options on how to fix the issue.

Toilet was flushing slowly so called Roto Rooter for a fix. Charged me $300 and it seems like he just pushed the clog further down the pipe, since its still flushing slowly. I called Roto Rooter back and was told there is no warranty and I'd have to pay again if I wanted them to come back. Feels like a scam since I paid $300 for 2 minutes work that didn't fix it and they want to charge me again to do a fix. Now I'll have to pay a different plumber even more since the clog may be further down which is harder to access.

We had a bad experience. We reached out to replace our water heater tank. As you can see in the photos we uploaded, we are charged $1200 labor and $1600 parts. We researched the tank heater it costs $800 on Home Depot. We asked Mike and Vincent, the two workers from the company for a breakdown of the costs of the parts and they told us they are new and do not know how the parts are recorded and suggested we reach out to the management. We called the company and the company told us they do not have the “authorization” of sharing with us the costs of the parts, also asserting they are allowed to overcharge because of labor time and effort (I thought I already paid 1200 dollars for labor?). The company overall has resisted to share with us the cost breakdown, and there is not a single way that we can add up the numbers to 1600 dollars for parts.

I won’t recommend this to any of my friends because the company insists on overcharging consumers as well as being arrogant with respect to consumers. We believe the activities of the corporation border on corporate and consumer fraud. We just don’t have the time and don’t really bother to pursue this further but just want to caution everyone else to be very careful using this contractor — you really get ripped off by their mendacious team.

They snaked main line and cleared blockage, but they did not snake the entire main line. The blockage reoccured about a week later, and now we have severe water damage. Wood floor destroyed. They cleared the main line again, but still did not snake the full length. Then they did a camera inspection, and they said the pipe was cast iron and corroded. I know it is a clay pipe where they inspected, and they inspected it with the water running through the pipe. The water flow blurred the camera, so it was difficult to determine if there was any pipe damage. They recommend a sleeve inside the pipe, cost over $9,000. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the pipe. I think the problem is grease buildup. I think the entire length should be snaked and cleaned out.

TL;DR: Roto Rooter overcharge customer on both labor and parts, for a problem that was not fixed. I called Roto Rooter in the afternoon for a shower slow dripping problem. They swiftly sent a technician. The technician was courteous and friendly, but later proven to be not knowledgeable or professional. When the technician arrived he looked at the problem, gave me a quote of $400. This was higher than what I had expected but I wanted the dripping to go away so I agreed to it.

When the technician started working, I started having doubts. Before he pulled the shower valve out of the wall, I asked “do we need to put a towel below the valve so the residual water doesn’t go into the wall?” He replied “no need, the water was shut off.” Then he went ahead and pulled the cartridge out of the wall and the residual water of course went behind the wall. He then looked at the cartridge, saying it needed replacement, and went out to buy the replacement cartridge at General Plumbing Supply. He came back with a new cartridge and put it in. He made several noticeable mistakes when putting the cartridge in. He was confident the way he did it but later proven the screws were in the wrong hole. He also broke a screw and pretended it didn’t happen until I pointed out.

Then he went out to buy the broken screw at Home Depot. He returned with the screw and, since I am concerned about his handyman skills, I put the cartridge and everything back in. The dripping was not improved after overnight observation. The entire process was useless. I was charged 3 hours of labor and $260 parts. The labor should have easily been less then 2 hours if he had not broken the screw and went for a replacement. The part was $85 on General Plumbing Supply and he billed $260. Make your judgement.

On Wed, Feb.7, I called Roto-Rooter for a cleanout of my slow, functioning sewer line. The technician came same-day, 5pm, and quoted me at $650, which seemed high but I agreed to. He got his line stuck 40 ft in, he was unable to retrieve it, and so had to return the next day to try and retrieve it. Giving me the night without the ability to flush the toilet.

On Thur, Feb.8, the tech returned with his team leader, and the team leader tried to retrieve the line, unsuccessfully. They then called another team lead to locate the stuck line. It was located under my driveway. I was then informed that I could pay them $5100 to cut a hole in my driveway to retrieve THEIR equipment, or they could leave it in there, and my house would be condemned. So I signed, under extreme duress, and under an implied threat of house condemnation. They assumed that I had a collapsed sewer line that had "grabbed" their line, but my sewer line was fine. It was full of roots, which their line had gotten stuck in, but nowhere was it collapsed.

They did not finish the job until Fri, Feb.9. I now have a running line, and a new sewer line cleanout in my driveway, but it's filled in with gravel, and they didn't even try to make the gravel level with the concrete. They didn't even clean up the paint they put in the street and the driveway and the yard. On Friday, I tried to find ways to get a discount, considering it was their machinery they were recovering. Charge me for the cleanout and the new piping, but not for the excavation and retrieval. I even offered to do the cleanup of the dirt and concrete myself if that would save me some money. Got nowhere, not even $100 discount. The manager would not even give me $100 for getting HIS equipment stuck in MY sewer line. An extremely unpleasant person, felt like I was talking to a KC mob member. This company will destroy your house and then grossly overcharge you to fix it. DO NOT LET THEM INSIDE YOUR HOUSE!

We called for an emergency plumbing issue in our rental. We were quoted certain amount, however we saw higher charge on our card. We called the plumber to inquire about the amount being higher and he told us that he left the some solution to our tenant without notifying us and getting any approval. Now, for the service that was done, a few minutes after he left, the toilet backed up again. Our tenant called him directly since he left her the number and instructed her to do so if there is an issue, he came back, and called to notify us that he is back and that he cannot fix the issue because it’s a problem in the building.

We notified the management company and board that they will need to take care of it since it’s not an issue in our unit. Management sent a plumber from Power Rooter. After the plumber from Power Rooter snaked the toilet, the issue was resolved, and it had nothing to do with building but needed to be snaked correctly. Now I had to pay Power Rooter for the same service Roto-Rooter was paid for but their plumber obviously doesn't even know how to snake the toilet. I have notified Ms. Pam **, customer satisfaction manager at Roto-Rooter, about the issue, and received a phone call from the regional manager. During our first conversation, he wanted to refund fraudulent charge for solution but keep service charge. At follow up conversation, he wanted to issue a refund for services but keep money for a solution. When I did not agree with anything less than a full refund, he told me to go and file a dispute with the credit card.

Which I did, and they are trying to fight chargeback. Their argument is that they performed the services and were not given a second chance. Stay away from them. At least the one in NY. Their plumbers are shady, they add to charge without authorization if they have a chance, and then after you end up paying someone else to do the exact same work they should do, they still fight to keep the money. Pat Swanson, who I see often responds here is responsive and helpful in connecting you with the regional manager, but that's pretty much it.

I was thinking maybe around 3000 to 5000 So we waited for the other guy to come and get the water out of the tank and without any troubleshooting the pump and see if it still works he told me that it was no use and I need to install a new one and he sat in his car for about 2 hours looking for a grinder pump. I really felt that was not right but I never experienced anything like this so I had no idea but I really felt I was scammed and took advantage of the fact that I was desperate and I was billed 8000 that I still can’t believe how I’m going to pay it and why be so cruel and vicious to take advantage of a single mother.

He had been instructed what to do by his service order. He was confusing me, so I asked that he call my son (the homeowner) with questions. He would not call my son and said "Just let me do my processes!" like he was a robot on a program. Then he turned away from me and wouldn't respond at all! He suddenly left the house, got in his van and left without saying a word to me. I called him and asked if he was done, or what? I even apologized, if I had offended him in any way! He stated he was going after parts and would be back.

An hour later he showed up and completed the job, saying nothing more. He charged $560. The average charge for this type of repair in Omaha is $334. I hope the replacement he did lasts, but I found his lack of any good manners and good customer service appalling. They came to simply fix a clogged shower drain and I was charged $650!!! And I did not feel I could argue with the plumber alone in my home. I felt intimidated and taken advantage of. It’s a total scam. Run away!!

Please do not let these idiots in your property for any water clean up. Clean it yourself or find a small company to do it for you. They will take advantage of you. BEWARE OF THESE **.

Roto-Rooter was hired by my neighbor to fix their leaking water line on 10/27/23. In the process of fixing their water line the Roto-Rooter plumber hit my water line causing damage to the line and causing water to flood basement. I run a small business out of my basement so the water damaged my office and some inventory. Throughout the rest of that day I was assured by multiple people that Roto-Rooter would "make this right". About 4 hours later Roto-Rooter clean up company shows up to try and save what they could. They put some fans and some heaters in my basement to try and dry it out while taking some rugs that got soaked outside as well as my damaged inventory. After they got done they advised me they would show up the next day 10/28/23 at 2pm. Overnight on 10/27 my breaker kept tripping due to the amount of fans and heaters going in my basement.

I advised them on the morning of 10/28/23 that my daughter's room cannot even have a single light on or it will cause the breaker to trip and same with the upstairs bathroom. I received no response, but knew they were supposed to be at my home at 2pm to check on things and would probably address the issue then. At 2:35pm no one had showed up so I decided to call the tech that was supposed to come out. He advised me he would be there "between 3-5pm, but definitely before 5pm". I advised him that I have moved me and my family to my parent's residence about 15 minutes away since I cannot use the basement because of water, the upstairs is limited on electricity, and it was 80+ degrees in my home (because of the heaters). So if he would text me or call me before showing up I could meet him over there.

At 5:38 I receive a Ring door bell notification that they were there. At this time I was out of town at dinner since the tech advised me he would "definitely be there before 5pm". They rung the doorbell and left without calling me or notifying me they were there. At around 8:00pm on the same day I received a call from the tech's helper and apologized for their tardiness and assured me that they are here to "work around my schedule". I advised them I would be home in the morning of 10/29/23 and they replied that the earliest they could get to my home would be 2pm. I advised I can be at my home at 2pm on 10/29/23 so these issues can be addressed. On 10/29/23 no one shows up to my home until 3:18pm (I know this because of my ring notification). At 2:35 that day I decided to leave my home assuming they were not coming and received no contact from them advising they would be late.

I received a call at 3:37pm advising they were at my home, but left and I advised them that I was giving my daughter a bath at the time of the Ring notification. I then asked why didn't they give me any sort of heads up or notification that they were going to be late. The tech on the phone from Roto-Rooter let me know that he was dialing the wrong phone number for the last 2 days which is why I did not receive any updates or notifications from them. On Monday I receive notification from the employee who is in charge of this claim and states that "a tech will be to your residence today to address the issues". I asked for a time and he could not give me one. So I waited at my 80+ degree house for hours before leaving and returning to my parent's residence.

After unsuccessfully trying to pin down a time by contacting numerous different individuals within Roto-Rooter I assumed they would not show up. And in fact they did not show up at all on Monday 10/30/23. On Tuesday 10/31/23 a Roto-Rooter tech finally showed up on time after notifying me a hour before he was going to show up. He took their equipment and left. Since this contact with the tech on 10/31/23 I am writing this review on 11/2/23 and have yet to receive an update on my carpet that was damaged, my inventory that was damaged, my carpet padding that was damaged, my time lost from work, my future electric bill, the giant hole in my yard from the neighbor's job and anything else that Roto-Rooter caused from the very beginning.

So basically to summarize this long review if you want to hire a plumber who makes mistakes and then the company lacks communication, and drags their feet through the process which they caused hire Roto-Rooter. This company does not care about my small business, my family, my home, or anything associated with me since I did not pay them anything unlike the neighbor. Thank you for taking the time to read this review. Take this as a warning about hiring Roto-Rooter! If this situation does get rectified I will update this review.

I have made it my life's mission to alert as many people as possible NEVER use Roto Rooter. They are total scam artist they over charge and do not fix the problem. I have left complaints everywhere. That is how bad they are. They even have someone that responds to the complaints and acts like he wants to helps resolve things, just so others who see the complaint make it look like they care but after he left his info I reached out to explain how badly I was treated and he never even replied. If I could leave less than one star I ABSOLUTELY would. They ripped me off and over charged me 3 times what I ended up paying another company the next day to actually fix the problem.

After I explained to multiple people that they charged me over $700 and nothing even worked they basically told me too bad and would not even partially refund me. They are terribly rude and just total scammers. I hired a different plumber the next day and the problem was fixed in under 20 mins for less than a third of the cost. Roto Rooter spent 7 hours at my house the day before and my toilet was backed up again within 12 hours and this was after having paid them $700 dollars.

Plumber came to check where the pipe broke in my basement and found it. I asked him to tell my insurance co where the break was inside my basement, he even took a picture but instead started to tell them that the whole pipe underground needed to be replaced and confused the agent. So instead of stating the inside problem they were out to get as much money as possible and quoted me 11,500.00 for work that did not need to be done. He said in the future it may. So now the insurance is giving me a hard time because they are unsure what the problem is. If you don't want to get screwed Don't Call Them!

I needed plumbing service to clean out my washing machine drain..When they arrived they looked at the drain and ran the auger through to clean out and then ran the hot water through the kitchen sink for about 10 minutes because everything was connected...Then the guy was in his truck for over 30 minutes and charged $457.00 labor charge and did sell me some enzyme cleaner for $81.00.. Wow that's a little much for a quick service!! They did apply a $75.00 off coupon from their website...Still not much of a value! Just left with a feeling of being ripped off! Oh well. I will check reviews closer next time as there are not a lot of satisfied customers on here..

They say they have a 6 month warranty for their roto-rooting service - and my kitchen sink was clogged up in June, then again in October. They charged me full price for both visits, despite this "6 month guarantee". I called their dispatch who said they would email the branch directly and to expect a call back - 5 times. Never once got a call back. I called my local branch directly 3 times, and never got a call back. I suppose they got my money, and I'm a sucker. 2 stars instead of 1, because at least the technicians are polite while they take my money.

This all started from water damage in my basement. Water backed up into my showers in my bathrooms. The plumbers came out to assess the problem. It was resolved at that time. Now here is where the issues started. The supervisor came out to my house to ensure the work was be completed which I appreciated. At that time the supervisor stated that I had water damage to my basement from the overflow of water from my bathrooms. He stated that it would be covered through my insurance if I had coverage, which I did. The process was started. Initially, my insurance company called me and stated that the water damage wasn’t covered. I contacted a representative name Bri to get on a payment plan via voicemail. Well, two weeks later I received a call from my insurance company stating that I actually did have coverage and a claim check would be issued out.

Immediately, Bri started calling me every day sometimes 3 times a day for payment. I told her at that time that I had not receive a payment yet. She continuously called numerous times days harassing me about payment. I’m not what happened but I never got the first claim check. I told Bri that I hadn’t received it. Bri contacted my insurance company and they told her that the check had not been cashed. As expected because I never received it. I called my insurance company and another claim check was issued. Bri had a Dave come to my house stated that payment was due which I was fully aware of that. Now, my mortgage company instructed me to forward the check to them first per their protocol. I left a message for Bri stating that I received the claim check and I would contact her once I received it back from my mortgage company.

Not only has Bri continued to harass me via phone calls but also text messages. Ultimately, Dave and Bri has called leaving threatening voicemails and texts about forwarding me to collections. This infuriates me because despite communication with Bri I’m still being harassed as if I have ran off with the claim check. I would think that they know that there is a process on my end that need to be taken with my mortgage company. I work midnights and can’t even get enough sleep for work from the constant harassment. The last voicemail that was left 10/10/23. Dave left a message as if I was a child stating that I didn’t do what he told me and that I would be forwarded to collections since I did what I wanted to do. How disrespectful can a company be!

These two have represented Roto-Rooter as a distasteful and unprofessional company. To harass a person after they are in communication with the company is ridiculous. There is a process for claims checks. When I explained this to my mortgage company they couldn’t believe the unprofessionalism of the company. I have never experienced this in my life. I do not recommend using this company. If I’m ever asked I will share my experience and advise them to avoid at all cost. If there was an option to rate no stars I would. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Walked thought the house with with feces on his shoes and no drop cloth down Also told me no one watches me to see what is under the toilet. I find that extremely unsanitary and a health problem.
