I had an insurance clam and was notified through email that the insurance company was only going to pay an amount that was less than Roto Rooter quoted for the service. The insurance company found no reason to use a piece of equipment, and sent a check for the lesser amount. I paid the full amount because of a demand letter that I received.
2 months later I was attached to an email between Roto Rooter and Insurance Co. I found that the person that was handling my account was no longer with Roto Rooter, and since I was told that Roto Rooter did not agree with removing the excess billing charge without my knowledge that I was responsible for the full cost of the service. The insurance company also did not receive correspondence so no one had knowledge of the decision from Roto Rooter.
Roto Rooter started the mitigation process right away so they did the work without anyone getting a chance to look at the proposal or send in the explanation from the Insurance Co. The amount of the clean out of the black water Back up and mitigation I feel were in excess and I will be more aware in the future before choosing a service provider.

We’re sorry to hear that our service did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to locate your record in our system. To help us investigate this further, please email me your full-service address, including the zip code. My email is Pat.Swanson@rrsc.com. Including a copy of this review would also be helpful. BEWARE...they will rip you off. I needed an outdoor house faucet replaced that cracked. The tech opened my den wall inside the house unnecessary to replace a pipe. Replaced the outside faucet with the lowest quality faucet available to use. Then billed me over $700 for work that should have been no more than half that. A TOTAL RIPOFF!!!! I called the company about it. Spoke with a manager who told me he would see what he could do and get back with me. He never did. STAY AWAY FROM ROTO-ROOTER. You've been warned.

Finally on February 2, 2026, at 7 pm a technician name George ** showed up at my home and unclogged my sewer drain. Mr. George ** is an excellent worker and wonderful employee for Roto Rooter. He is great person and he is a knowledgeable and respectful young man and I will be requested his services personally if I have any plumbing issues at my home and I will be recommending him to friends and family members.

Find a local plumber. The explanation I got from a manager for the $1200 labor fee (1 hour) is that the person did 2 jobs involving the faucet replacement. They charge by the job - not the hour. I’m certain they will find another “job” in the process so they can double your fee.

Admittedly, this experience occurred January 24 - 25, 2026 during very cold weather on a weekend, so I am sure there were numerous "emergency calls". I called Roto Router at 2:35PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026 to schedule an Emergency Repair for a burst water line [I did already shut off the water to the entire house]. I was given an initial appointment window from 2:39PM - 6:39PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026. I got a call at 6:39PM on January 24, 2026 saying that Roto Router would not make it to my house tonight, but would be there at 8:00AM the next morning, Sunday, January 25, 2026.
At 6:40PM on January 24, 2026, I got a text saying Roto Rooter would be on-site at 6:30AM the following day, Sunday, January 25, 2026. At that point, I checked the mobile app that had a Scheduled Service between 5:00AM - 7:00AM for Sunday, January 25, 2026. At 8:09AM on Sunday, January 25, 2026, I got a call that the technician was on his way and would arrive by 9:00AM. At 9:22AM on Sunday, January 25, 2026, I called Roto Rooter for an update and was told the technician was still en-route and would arrive within 30 minutes. At 10:01AM on Sunday, January 25, 2026, I called Roto Rooter to cancel the originally scheduled Emergency Repair from Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 2:39PM - 6:39PM.
I called a local plumber on Sunday, January 25, 2026 and he was at my house in less than 3 hours to do the work. Roto Rooter claimed it was slow traffic due to weather which was not that bad for driving conditions causing over a 2-hour delay. I suspect the technician stopped for another appointment first instead of coming to my house for the first appointment of the day AFTER cancelling the original schedule time for the prior afternoon/early evening. I will never call Roto Rooter again.

We do not recommend the Rochester Roto-Rooter office unless you like poor customer service and being price gouged! The day we had a leak and called for service, I had just undergone surgery and was dealing with a life-threatening health issue. After the service, we did not initially receive any paperwork or clear billing information. After calling to request they email the invoice on December 19, my husband and I began receiving multiple emails and phone messages that were harassing and threatening from Amanda less than 30 days from the date of service!
In the two times I spoke with Amanda in billing on the phone, she was very rude and unprofessional. Prior to this, we had planned to use Roto-Rooter again to TV the line based on a technician’s recommendation. Because of the poor customer service and lack of professionalism, we decided to take our business elsewhere. An email was sent to the owner with the complaint however his lack of response says more than enough. He doesn’t give a damn.

I do not ever recommend using this company. I waited seven hours, they get here and tell me it’s $585 to remove the P-trap and snake the line for 6 inches. The main line was draining free, no backup anywhere. It was just the P-trap had something in it. We needed to remove it and clear out the P-trap. They wanted to do a whole snake to drain the whole line and I says it doesn’t need to be snake the whole line, you’re going maybe 6 inches into from the P-trap. Never ever again will I ever, ever, ever call this company horrible

Rip Off. 20 minutes to change the water value on a certain pipe that was faulty. At first Alex wanted to charge 700 then I said, "Can you go lower? That is a lot of money to charge me just to replace a water valve." Then he said, "Ok. What should I charge then." He said 450 and I said, "How about 250" and he said, "No. 450." It was late and my pipe was leaking so I said OK. Alex knew I was in a bind. Talk a about price gouging and taking advantage of someone's bad situation. That's okay Alex. I hope you are proud of yourself but I believe in karma!!!!

I would never ever recommend this company. A year ago in December, we called out Roto-Rooter to come investigate a leak that we had. We had already called out a plumber with a camera to ascertain the problem and needed a second confirmatory opinion - when I called them out, we advised them that we had already had an opinion.
They sent a quote to unblock the drain, which was promptly paid for. Unfortunately, they did not unblock the drain, and then said we would need to get a camera in to inspect the pipes. I originally advised them that we had gotten a previous plumber to come out, put down cameras and had given us their opinion - I did not need another opinion - I needed the pipes to be unblocked, which they failed to do. I was more than happy to pay a call out fee - given that they were there for a few minutes. The issue I have is that they charged to unblock a pipe and did not deliver on a service that they undertook to do and charged excessively for. I will never ever use them again!!

Roto-Rooter was a complete waste of time and money. They came out three separate times for the same leaky sink, and I spent over $900 within a matter of weeks—yet the sink kept leaking. Each visit resulted in another bill, but no lasting fix. What’s worse is that they do not stand by their work. Instead of taking responsibility for a problem they failed to fix multiple times, they treated each return visit like a brand-new issue and charged accordingly. If you want to pay hundreds of dollars for repeat visits and unresolved problems, go ahead. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and hire literally anyone else.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. Had issues with our sewer line backing up for a while and had them put a few times to snake and clear the line. Was told multiple times it needed to be replaced because jetting wasn’t an option. Fast forward to the most recent time we had them out to snake and this guy tells me it needs to be jetted actually. I tell him what I was told before and he assures me that I can in fact be jetted. I said I want to hold off so I make sure I have the extra $700 the jetting will cost. He comes back out a week later WHILE I'M AT WORK and does it anyway. I am just sent an invoice. I did not approve of that work at all and then had a horrible experience trying to speak with anyone regarding the issue, none of them communicating to each other, and them threatening collections of I didn’t pay.

I needed to get a new water heater installed. Now I know how they afford all those nice vans. The guy comes over, very nice young man. He explained everything he was going to do in detail. He was going to install the new unit, change the earthquake brackets, change the attachments and hack the old one away. It was more detailed but that is the gist of it. I said, "Great, how much?" When he said $4900 I almost hit the floor. ARE YOU ** KIDDING ME??? You can buy a good unit for $500 so they are charging $4400 for a two hour (or less) job. This is why you always, always, ALWAYS get at least 3 or 4 quotes before you replace an expensive appliance in your home.
Lowe's does the same job for $1940. I ended up doing it for less. I purchased one for $520 and paid a retiree from Craigslist $500 to install it and I will put the old one out on the street for the next big pickup day. I will just say this, if you use RR for anything you either have money to burn, are lazy or a complete fool.

Who knew that a backed-up drain would turn into a repair job costing thousands of dollars. We had a plumbing backup that resulted in water coming out around the base of the toilets on the main floor of our house and leaking around the pipes into the basement below. Called several plumbing companies and Roto-Rooter was the first to respond. We were caught off guard as not one, but two, Roto-Rooter employees showed up to deal with our issue. One was a service technician to deal with the clog, and the second one was a "Mitigation specialist" who would deal with the water damage, of which there was none visible other than damp insulation in the basement ceiling below one of the bathrooms.
The service tech successfully cleared our clog, only to discover another problem - the likely possibility that our main drain line had become disconnected somewhere external to the house. Clearing the clog ultimately cost us almost $900. The estimate to repair the drain line external to the house was $4000-$6000. (We contacted another plumbing company for a 2nd opinion on the drain line. They determined the line had become disconnected where it exited our basement foundation underground, and they made the appropriate repairs at a total cost of $1250.)
As for the Mitigation team, we were told the backup resulted in "Category 3" contamination of the area in, around, and below one of the toilets, and would require removal of the toilet, tear out and disposal of the hardwood flooring and subfloor in that room, tear out and disposal of the lower two feet of sheetrock wall and insulation around the toilet, and removal and disposal of the insulation under that room in the basement below. Roto-Rooter then brought in more than a half dozen dryer and dehumidifier devices for "drying" the subfloor, walls, and floor joists over the next three days. The mitigation specialist told us we needed to file an insurance claim and demanded that we pay him our deductible right then so they could begin the "recovery" process. Not knowing any better, we did.
Long story short, we were sold a bill of goods as we were caught totally off guard by what we thought would be a simple clog removal. $3000 later and we will never contact Roto-Rooter again. The walls in the room were never touched by the water and should have never been removed. The repairs are being covered by our insurance, but that will run another $3000+. If this happens to you, call your insurance agent first before dealing with a "mitigation" or "recovery" team. It will likely save you a lot of money and heartache.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They came out Sunday evening because we had a plumbing problem. The first guy couldn't unplug it so he called in the "manager" with the camera. Within 2 min we are told our main pipe has collapsed and will cost us $8000. Basically sale pitched to get us to sign the contract and we gave a post dated check for that Friday. Then Monday morning we decided to get a second opinion from 3 other plumbing companies at which no other cameras showed that our pipe has collapsed. All we had to do is the jetter and the line was cleared for $800!!!! If we just stayed with Roto we would be out $8000 and our front yard dug up 7 ft under! No apology. No nothing from roto! Stay away!!!!

They trap you for money when they not able to perform one job. They offer you another options to get more money. This company is big cheater. Don't go for their services whatever they offer. After the guy got there he looked for about 15 minutes at the water heater and told me it was $200 to assess the water heater. He also wanted to charge me $700 to clear my 2 drains, and $1200 to fix my water heater. Thankfully, I contacted a competitor and they gave me a truly free estimate which was half the price that roto rooter quoted and did both drains for $190. Do not use roto rooter, they are a scam!

We called Roto Rooter for a clogged drain. We asked what the cost would be and were told the technician would give us a price before he did the work. He told us to unclog the drain it would be $350. We said, "Will this fix the problem?" He said yes. When we showed him the basement where the clogged line was. He said he had to snake it from the yard into the house. I tried explaining that a few years ago we had the same problem and our plumber snaked it from inside the house to outside that was 10 years ago.
Since our plumber has since retired we called roto rooter this time. It was the worst mistake we ever made. The man would not listen to me and treated me as if I had no knowledge of the problem.. I may be a senior citizen but I am far from stupid and resented the way he treated me. Not listening to me he tried to unclog the pipe from the outside in and wound up breaking the pipe and clogging the pipe worst then what it was. He then claimed he could do no more. He then said he had to charge us for the visit even though he couldn't fix the problem. He then handed us a bill for $377. We felt we should not have had to pay that amount for him to break our pipe. We then called a plumber that a friend recommended and it cost us a $1000 to replace the pipe your man broke.

Roto Rooter came out on Labor Day. The first September told me I had a broken sewage pipe, twenty feet in from my washer and dryer, and also my trap was gone twenty feet out from the main sewer line. They charge me seven hundred four dollars and ninety one cents to stick a camera which I never saw down the pipe and told me that that amount would come off with a full total of the repair. If I choose to go with them which I did, I ended up paying eight thousand dollars. Additional to that seven hundred and four dollars and ninety one cents? That never came off my balance.
On top of that, we had to hire a new plumber to come out. And finish the job rotor route or charged us to jet our water pipes. But they were never jetted, I also have video that shows proof of that. If roto rooter would have jetted our pipelines, our basement would have flooded. All repairs were not done. And when roto rooter was called back out on October twenty fifth. Because we had a backup, they told us it was going to cost more. We then had to call a new plumber that news up costing us eleven thousand dollars to repair the broken line and finish doing the job, the road or route or did not do. I have a video of my pipes that shows they haven't been jetted, but can't upload.

We had to call Roto-Rooter because of a septic back-up problem. Similar issue last spring was resolved competently by a seasoned tech. Not the case last week. The rookie tech arrived at 5:35 PM and seemed quite inexperienced. I asked, and he told me we were his 5th or 6th house that he's visited by himself. 3 months on the job - including 2 1/2 months training. Very nice young man, but he did not inspire confidence. He poked around a bit and did clear the clogged pipe but, as it was after 8PM, I didn't want him to remove the toilet from our master bath and use a camera there. We agreed that RR would send a tech to complete the job that I paid $650 for.
No follow up in 5 days, so I just called RR again to schedule. I also reviewed my invoice from last week and noticed a "product" charge for $93. The rookie tech had freely given me a container of Pipe Shield - at no cost. He said I should try it and it might help our system. I thought he gave it to me to help make up for his inexperience. I should have looked at the invoice more closely, my bad. Feels very deceptive - "here, try this stuff and it should help,". Then, he adds on a $93 charge. When I brought this to Ruby's attention on the phone earlier, she just laughed and said, "ain't nothing for free!".

Absolutely the worst service I have ever received. The initial meet and greet went well but it went downhill after that. They started the mitigation and did not provide the information needed to replace the pipe. So they initial start was a waste of time and money. I had to use a different company to replace the pipe. The price for the “mitigation“ was paid by the insurance company. Over 14k for barely doing anything. Then I called them back to finish the mitigation work once the pipe was fixed and they charged double the price for less work. 23k for less work that was done for 14k.
They shifted my shower over and messed up the drain because they didn’t know what they were doing. I had to get it repaired by the contractor who refinished my basement. The contractor had so much more work to do because of how they cut the drywall. I would never recommend them to anyone.

Invoice # ** dated 8-27-25 to Paul **. I wrote a review that basically said the technician that came to clean out my roots in a 4 inch main used a broken cutter with one blade. The before and after camera shots showed very little difference. His partner then quoted me a sleeve fix. I have had this exact same problem for over 15 years. So I called a competitor, he cut out the roots with a real blade and with his camera showed me the after. It was a whole lot better. After my review I got a call from Roto-Rooter, extremely nice, telling me that they would refund my $450 and to look at my next month's credit card statement for the refund. I have looked through the last 2 statements. No credit. Why?

I called them out to do a repair on the master bathroom toilet. It took them two days to figure out what was wrong. When they did they had to redo some plumbing to the septic system. In the process of doing that they removed an 1 1/2 line to my aerator system. This is a rental property, so I didn’t notice that it was removed for several months. It took me over a week and a half of constantly leaving messages for their office manager Todd to actually return my phone calls. Now they are denying removing the piping for my aerator when it was clearly there and working before they came and installed the new plumbing. Between the poor customer service and a technician that is clearly lying I will never use them again.
Yes you sent two employees out after. One gave me another estimate and the second one which I was there with him agreed that the new piping they installed was right where the piping for the Aerator was. I’m guessing someone came in the back yard and removed it and also unplugged the aerator that’s been installed for the past 7 years.

My fiance and I had issues with our plumbing at the end of April. We hired Roto Rooter to dig up the floors under our basement and replace the pipes that had been clogged. My fiance, Gabe, had decided to agree to a loan with Roto Rooter because it was going to be about $7000 for this job and they told us the loan was no interest, so we agreed to it. They started the job and in the middle of it when I was home the project manager, Brandon, told us that we should agree to add on a $3000 job that would clear out our sewage pipes. Brandon told me that my fiance already knew about it, and I should sign the paper so they could quickly get started on the work, he handed it to me and I signed, and after I signed, he explained this to my fiance who agreed to it.
After this all was finished we got our loan from Synchrony Bank in the mail for $24000, which was the max amount of the loan. The loan also had interest, which we had been told it did not. We were shocked to see that the job they added on, they charged us $16000. We had agreed to the $3000, but the paper they have now sent us that I had signed says it was $16000 when it was not when I signed it. They had refused to send us any paperwork of the job until we got a lawyer involved, but because of our signatures on this one document we cannot do anything to fight it. They have scammed us out of a lot of money on this loan and we don't know what to do anymore.
I remember signing a paper that said it would be a $3000 extra job, and I now can’t prove it. We're horrified by Roto Rooters deceptive practices, we're a young couple and this is our first home, so while we were distressed from this plumbing issue they conned us into a loan for an insane amount and now we have no idea what to do.

I have to say, I’m extremely dissatisfied with Roto-Rooter Plumbing. We chose them because they advertised a “free estimate” on their website, but that claim is completely misleading. When their plumber arrived, we explained our issue, and right away he told us that just to even look into the problem, we’d have to pay a hefty service fee—anywhere from $300 to $500—just for them to diagnose it with a camera. By the time a supervisor got involved, we were looking at an outrageously high quote to actually fix anything.
In fact, it was clear they were more interested in adding charges than actually helping. The whole process felt like a bait-and-switch. The so-called “free estimate” is nothing more than a way to get in the door and then charge you just to figure out what’s going on. We felt completely misled and definitely won’t be using their services again. If you’re considering them, be warned: that “free estimate” is far from free, and you’ll likely end up paying just to get a basic diagnosis. We were very unhappy with the entire experience.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: We had a very tough case because our house is more than a 100 years old and so is its plumbing. We water was pouring from everywhere. We called several companies and they refused to do anything. Then to our luck, we remembered that we saw Roto-Rooter truck and made a picture of it. I called and a very nice Lady told me not to worry. She said that she was going to send someone right away. We are in DeLand and they are right here too. 20 min later their truck came, and they started working right away. The house was making noises of resistance but the guys didn't leave until the problem was solved. Of course, we are extremely happy and very very grateful. So, thank you, Ron, Chris, Jose and the other gentleman, I unfortunately didn't catch the name.

I used Roto-Rooter twice since May. Their prices are way overpriced, but being that I was strapped for time and inability to do certain things. I agree to have them do the job. The same tech was sent out twice so he knew my house well by now they received a third call by my husband to come out to unscrew the well water filter that the tech changed with our filter of the time before. Neither one of us could unscrew it so we thought if we called Roto-Rooter, they would do it for either comped or a nominal fee to come out. The only difference was this time my husband was home because he is not working anymore due to some serious disabilities. He has been dealing with. He was the one to make the phone call to explain what the issue was, which was very simple we needed the filter changed, and they were the one to do it last and we could not open it. That was it.
They didn’t give him a price and told him that they would let us know when they came out. Although clearly all we needed was a filter changed with our filter. I was not here when they quoted my husband and he agreed to the fee because he felt pressure to do so. If I were there at the time of the quote, I would’ve absolutely said no. I spoke to the manager Mike and I asked him why he doesn’t give a minimal fee and he could not answer my question. He kept saying, "We don’t know what we’re dealing with until we are there." But like I said, he already knew what he was dealing with cause the same tech was up two times before he knew he only had to change a water filter.
They charged us $240 and change to switch out a water filter that was our filter and refused to take anything off on that price. We are both senior citizens. My husband is out of work. We cannot afford those prices. We feel totally ripped off and taken advantage of. We feel beyond disgusted over this incident that occurred. I will never use Roto-Rooter again a day in my life. Roto-Rooter should be ashamed of themselves.

Incomplete flushing toilets and a slow-draining shower needed immediate action. Within an hour of calling Roto-Rooter, I was visited by Jonathan. He conducted a snake of the clean-out to provide some drainage. It became obvious that there was a structural obstruction not due to waste products. Gus arrived with video equipment to examine the exit pipe from the house and down to the street curb city conduit. We watched on the monitor as the culprit made itself known: a cracked cast-iron pipe with clay partially blocking it.
The next day, Jonathan returned, accompanied by Gavin. They worked for several hours to perform the necessary excavation to expose the broken clay and cracked pipe seen in the video. They replaced the broken 60-year-old cast-iron pipe with a dual-access PVC clean-out and then backfilled and cemented the cavity in the driveway. The results yielded a very smooth and unobtrusive seal, and a totally unobstructed flow. All these gentlemen conducted themselves as complete professionals, working hard with a positive attitude, courtesy, respect, care and amazing skill. Thank you, Jonathan, Gavin and Gus, for your incredible work! I most highly recommend Roto-Rooter! If you need the best, call the best!

Beware of extreme price gouging with Roto-Rooter. My parents are elderly and had a rental property that had a clogged sewer line. It was backing up in both apartments’ toilet and sink (2-family). We called in Roto Rooter and they sent a handful of techs, some tried, some were there 15 min and just gave up and said “I can’t help you”, very inconsistent. We called and complained, they sent a manager or sales rep out the next day and that’s when they completely bent them over a barrel. They quoted us $30,000 to descale and hydro pressure clean out 205’ feet of pipe, yes you read that correct $30,000!!! My parents signed the contract because they thought this was an honest company and had their tenants living in hotels so they could use the bathroom right before Christmas. I understand the term Buyer Beware, but man they really do take advantage of the elderly. Anyway, what they did didn’t work, we kept having to call them back.
Finally, we had to bring in a real plumbing company to fix the problem Arrow. The new company Arrow Sewer and Drain located in NJ, found that Roto Rooter severely damaged the pipe when they descaled the pipe and we ended up replacing the whole pipe. Arrow could not believe what RR charged us. They would have quoted us $10,250 for the exact same service. Let me repeat that Roto Rooter Charged us $30,000 and compromised the pipe and Arrow quoted us $10,250 for the exact same service. RR was $150 per foot and arrow was $50 a foot for the exact same service (descaling & cleanout).
Please do not use RR. They take advantage of the elderly and people during an emergency who don’t get a 2nd quote. My family and I will go on every Social Media Platform to share our experience and spread the word that Roto Rooter is an unethical and terrible company. I also decided to call up a few more plumbing companies to inquire about pricing and they were all in the 10K range for the same service RR provided. People, please do your Homework even during an emergency, get that second quote!!!! If you use Roto Rooter you will pay 3 times as much for shit work and that is a fact. John **

At one time, they left a giant hole in our backyard for a week because they dropped the lid to our tank into the tank.
It rained several days while the lid was off, and they had to pump out the tank again before getting the lid. The Project Manager and the Regional Manager were the rudest and most unresponsive people that I have ever dealt with for a project. My experience with Roto-Rooter is twofold. We had a soft clog situation in our house that caused some to come out of the overflow drain tube in the laundry room, which resulted in some splatter in the laundry room (sorry for the mental image). I called Roto Rooter and they were quick to come out. The first person that came out unclogged the house. He was kind and did the job that was needed (at a whopping $1,200.00, but I guess it had to be done). The second phase is where our issues began.
They sent a mitigation guy out to look at the laundry room and test for moisture. Because there was black water involved (keep in mind, we cleaned everything up before he came out) and moisture was reading on an area on the wall and a small area on the floor he said a crew would need to come out and rip the floors up, tear the wall down to the studs, run fans for 7-10 days, run fans in the crawl space, etc.
He said the job would probably cost between 2k-7k to complete, dependent upon the scope of the job. They wouldn't really know until they got in there to see how much damage was done. The following day, they came in, opened up a small section of wall and realized the studs were dry, the flooring was dry and they simply just needed to spray some sanitizing treatment on the studs. They were there for an hour.
Most of the items listed on the contract didn't happen because they didn't need to happen. When the bill arrived, I was charged $2,000. Apparently, that was the minimum bid. Now, the contract that I signed does not state a minimum bid on it. When they sent the itemized receipt, they listed some line items that they did not complete. Example...Detaching the washing machine for 41.98 - I did that, detaching the dryer for 32.37- I did that, using a dehumidifier for 24 hours - 94.44 - they did not do that, using a negative air fan - 86.41 - they did not use that.
After complaints, I was able to get the price knocked down to $1,000.00, but they still kept charges on the bill for tasks they did not complete. The mitigation guy was rude on the phone when I asked about taking those charges listed above off the bill. He refused to do so. Bottom line, Roto Rooter misdiagnosed the extent of our problem and yet still initially charged us $2,000 for the job, because that's what he thought the job would be. Roto Rooter overcharges big time so be very careful when using this company.

This company is horrid! Their work is atrocious. They price gouge. They prey on young homeowners and single women. They did a spot repair on our sewer line. They – not the complete repair they were supposed to complete. The cleanout pipe/cap was incorrectly installed at an 80-degree angle connection to the sewer line instead of at 90-degrees. The stone backfill was below the concrete patio line. The concrete needed to be removed for the repair resulted in uneven edges and cracks extending into the area not requiring work. They charged me $300 for the City Work Permit and Public Works inspection. I contacted the city. The costs of the permit issued to me and Public Works inspection was $150.
I have repeatedly called Roto Rooter - even to the point of contacting the general manager for the franchise in Chicago, the national company office as well as the direct number to the Schaumburg office. I. have talked to representatives, been transferred multiple times to the "correct" department and left messages when no one answered the phone. I have never been called back by the company. The cost of the 3 feet wide by 4 foot long by 3-foot spot repair was $10,000. This was NOT an emergency repair!
I called out two independent Plumbing and Sewer companies and the City Public Works department who stated the work was terrible and the charge should have been at most $4000 i- if that. They stated that they see this ALL the time with Roto Rooter. I have filed a case with the Illinois Attorney General's Office and the Better Business Bureau to report Price Gouging by Roto Rooter. Roto Rooter is not a member of the Better Business Bureau - no surprise.to report! Pictures of the work are available. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WARN everyone that this company price gouges, performs shoddy work and will never address a complaint.

They left a pile of excrement stained belongings in my backyard for me to dispose of. This is a scam company that should be prosecuted. Avoid.

I don't recommend these guys. They charge $500 to change a faucet's o-ring, and there is no warranty. I had to pay the technician $69 just for showing up. There is a $15 discount if you download their mobile app on your phone. I asked the technician for the discount from the non-service $69 fee. He said no. Called the customer rep. She said they waive it if they fixed the faucet but that was not on the agreement. I felt I've been scammed.

I now have damage caused by THEIR work and zero accountability from their team. I trusted them with my home, and they’ve failed on every level. When I enquired about what he was going to do he basically said it was clogged, and he didn't know yet what he would do. Very disappointing interaction and did not give me any confidence that tech was capable of fixing problem. I felt that all Roto-Rooter was interested in was getting me to pay the estimate without any idea of what was going to be done. At minimum I would expect a good plumber to explain some of the steps they would perform and steps that could or would be taken to unclog pipe. Very disappointing. Will not recommend you.

It's frustrating and financially damaging to encounter unexpected charges on a loan, especially when you believed it was a 0% offer. You're right to want to warn others about this situation. Here's a breakdown of the information and actions you can take: Understanding the Synchrony/Roto-Rooter financing and potential fees.
Minimum Interest Charge and Account Activation Fees: While some promotions may offer 0% interest for a certain period, Synchrony's financing agreements often include a minimum interest charge of $2 and a one-time account activation fee of $29 for new accounts.
Deferred Interest: If the promotional balance isn't paid in full by the expiration date, interest can be charged retroactively from the purchase date at a high APR (often 26.99%).
Paper Statement Fee: Synchrony also charges a $1.99 monthly Paper Statement Fee if you receive paper statements and your balance is above $2.50.

To start, I am a new homeowner so this is a first experience for me. I called Roto Rooter to service and clean a leaking bidet attachment. The service call was normal, they figured out what the issue was and I advised the plumber to go ahead and remove the faulty attachment.
For the cleaning portion the sales rep supervisor was very push and eager to sign me up to finance the work for mitigation without explaining that Roto Rooter would not assist with repair. Had this been explained to me I would have just gone through insurance. They went out and dried the bathroom out, took out the base boards to dry and left the fan in for 3 days. After the tech was done I signed the rest of his paperwork, he left. Then I discovered all the damage that was done.
The tech explained that that is not their portion of the job, which was not explained to me at all. And then discovered that their is a small amount of mold behind the toilet when I complained about the base boards being removed. The fact the guy did not discover the mold behind the toilet until after the drying process was complete is horrible. Spoke with the same sales tech again and they refuse to come out to fix this problem, instead they want me to pay another 2500 for them to come out and "do the job right." This should have been done right the first time. Now I am stuck with mold in my bathroom Roto Rooter refuses to clean and damage done to my property.

Came to my home I was going to get more quotes. They came from Roto Rooter we will handle, and it's covered by insurance. I signed the person called to get financing and when the financing was done the person said approved for 5500. The other person ran over and said the bill for plumbing is 8K. He went back on and did for 8K. All the time she said if you get no more quotes, she knew it was covered. I didn't know at the time she had padded the bill with a 2500 water filter she told us about but never authorized. The day came before even looking at it one of the plumbers said another pipe needed to be replaced. I call the person who set it up. She said let me call him and ask him stop upselling, I wonder now if they did something so that other pipe won't last after multiple attempts even though they billed never received a full receipt of the charges.
I saw what they charged the insurance company. They charged for overtime not here long. They charged for emergency appointment done no emergency. They took pictures for the insurance a bathroom & basement of work they did not do. pictures of the wrong bathroom. I spoke to 3 managers The third said nothing he can do but remove the water filter and try to get me a refund. And give me a free filter change even though the person told us about it was free 6 months. Pics taken of the basement even though there was no water in the basement we had water proofing done and they took pictures of the results which the work was not done by them. They charged us 8K which included the padded water filter and the insurance 15K for water restoration even though all water was in the tiny crawl space, they don't seem to care what happens as long as it results in more money.
They charged a total of 23K for a crawl space pipe done in a few hours with no overtime. No emergency service they had no special equipment, and what she was actually saying if you give us your insurance for our purposes. They said insurance paid for what they wanted but they had false information. They don't care. choose AJ Perry. They only said they could take out the water filter and try to get a refund. They also said the insurance paid them for what they choose but they had false information. We had no water in the basement 12 inches in the crawl space, and they charged 15K for water mediation for 12 inches in the crawl space. I spoke to 3 Managers, and none felt that any of this was an issue and basically said nothing we can do it's your problem. They did nothing wrong. I would give a zero if I could. They also received a check in both names which I never saw, and it was electronically endorsed.

I hired a plumber from Roto-Rooter to address a water leak in my laundry room today. I was very pleased that an experienced plumber arrived on time. He expertly resolved the issue by replacing the cold and hot water valves with short pipes connected to the washing machine, as well as replacing the very short pipeline on the main water valve. Overall, his expertise ensured the problem was fixed efficiently, and for that, I was grateful.
However, my satisfaction ended when it came to the billing. Both the initial estimate and the final invoice only presented a total amount due, which was over $1,700. There was no breakdown of the cost of parts or labor charges. When I asked for an itemized bill, the plumber provided only vague estimates of the total amount, claiming he didn't know the exact figures. This lack of transparency made me feel uneasy. It seemed as though the pricing was arbitrary and potentially varied based on the customer or situation, which felt unfair. They refused to disclose the specific cost of parts or their labor rates.
It's fundamentally unfair for a company to charge such a significant amount without providing a clear, itemized invoice that explains precisely why the customer is paying what they are. While the plumbing issue itself was resolved, this experience has left me so dissatisfied with their billing practices that I would not choose Roto-Rooter again and would not recommend it to others.

Terrible company with negligent staff that lie & are rude to you when call them out for the lies. So have a water softener system that stopped working for our well. It flooded the basement. Roto Rooter claims to have 24/7 on call service. Fri June 27th I called to schedule a home visit & to get a quote. They told me I'd get called back for both. FF 24 hours, no call. Turns out nothing was scheduled & my info not taken down so they didn't know to call me back (who did I talk to for 15 minutes on Fri?). So it's now Saturday & I'm told the same. Once again NOTHING so it's now Monday morning June 30th. Same process again & since I have work, they talk to my elderly mother who can barely communicate with them.
I call again later to have the visit scheduled Tues morning with me going into work late to wait for the plumber coming out. I'm told between 8am & 12pm. Yeah they don't show up which an insane game of phone tag ensues with me being passed from person to person on why my account is "on hold" & thus no visit until I'm sent to someone who just hangs up on me. Up until this point I'd been very calm.
Once again I call back to be transferred again to "dispatch" to "Kim" who is the one person that gives their name but she decides to be rude since I'm upset & ask why her colleague hung up on me & I can't get a straight answer on why the plumber stood us up. She decides that ~I~ am the one being rude since she's not the one that hung up on me & so cannot help me. I say I'm not going through another round of phone tag & says her manager "Don" will call me & hangs up on me. No, he never calls either as my elderly mom & I survey the flooded basement & call another service!

Roto Rooter is in fact DISHONEST. Roto Rooter's Plumber made a COLOSSAL mistake by forgetting to Re-open up the Valve on Our AC Condensate Line After Flushing the Lines. Naturally, this caused a big leak in our home and could have caused a lot of damage to our house had we not been checking their work once they left. Additionally, the 'Field Supervisor' for Roto Rooter admitted that he saw the Valve Closed and he said he 'Wondered' why it was like that? If you're wondering about that then you are clearly in the WRONG BUSINESS, Guys. You obviously don't know what the hell you're doing or you're just a crummy liar. My Family 'wonders' why you Chose to leave the Valve Closed? And we 'Wonder' why you CHOSE Not to even bring that matter to the Homeowner's attention?
Roto Rooter is the only company we've had work on that system so it's clearly obvious they simply forgot to open the Valve back up after flushing the ac drain lines. That Valve Must Remain OPEN, ROTO ROOTER. It's a shame that they chose to lie to us. Mistakes happen but please grow up and stop lying and CHECK YOUR WORK BEFORE LEAVING THE HOMES

We were told we would get an epoxy resin liner, installed inside older pipes about 9 to 10 feet, water jet descaling and a cleanout. What we got was pvc pipe replacing the 9 to 10 foot section which is fine, but we got epoxy resin liner, non at all, but we were still charged the full amount they told we would be charged. The epoxy resin can cost 80 to 250 dollars per foot. We were never given an itemized list. Just charged on our credit card with a final charged. Do NOT use Roto Rooter unless you have a good knowledge of plumbing and prices. They got me good and still asking for money!!! My unfinished basement was backed up. Called RR and a Rep came out and told me he would get a tech over right away. Which he did and fixed the mainline blockage in about 15 minutes. The Rep sat in my kitchen as I called my insurance company to make sure the work/repair would be covered. My insurance said yes.
He fixed the backup, put some big, huge thing in my basement stating it was the water softener (that I specifically said I did not want, and I must pay servicing of about 300 annually). He fixed the sewage blockage in main line for 227.00 in about 15 minutes. He stated that water heater was on last leg and could take care of that as well for ab out 2K. I am an elderly gal with no really plumbing knowledge and said OK. Then I was billed for a total of $9,252.32!!!! And I paid for it in full!!!! I feel so stupid and just the labor alone for one man was about half of that! My insurance paid nothing for this. They did however pay for the 2nd claim for restoration minus my deductible so they received an additional 6K and RR has the nerve to keep bugging me stating that I owe an additional 2500 for the restoration.
Can someone tell me how a backup in an unfinished basement came to approximately 17 to 18 K including a water heater install? I am just sick and know I was taken so advantage of and don't know if there is anything I can do but I refuse to pay them anymore money! Any advice or comment appreciated.

(Bob WHOEVER BOB IS) said I would have to pay again. Of course I said I wasn't cause they didn't finish the job. Which I had the city sewage people come to check it out before I called Roto Rooter again. I did receive a call from someone else waiving any fee. They came back and didn't do anything. The one kid yes kid one was 22 the other 19 kept saying there wasn't anything they could do cause they had no tools to take the cap off the pipe. If they came back I would have to pay. WHAT RIP OFFS KANE, PA ARE.
They weren't even turning the pipe wrench the right way to open it. My friend had to say something to them about it. One of the kids was very polite the other was rude and order the polite kid around . He didn't do much to help. They didn't clean up the mess from the pipe in the laundry room till I said something then the polite kid cleaned it up and apologized. They didn't clean up very well from the week before my friend had to do it along with telling them what they needed to do. I'm sorry but if you're going to run a business, you should have the tools needed to do the job and qualified personnel to do the job and not over charge.
If you're in the same area you should not charge everyone in that town a service fee for coming it should be divided between the customers and you should have a senior citizen rate. Seniors are on a limited income and when the bill is over $500. That's a lot for anyone especially a senior to pay. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ROTO ROOTER FROM KANE PA. My friend ended up unclogging my drains which I paid Roto Rooter to do.

I want to start by saying that Leo, the guy that came by was great and clearly knowledgeable. Problem is that the way they price things out seems purposely vague in order to charge you huge add ons without you realizing. I only wanted a basic maintenance visit, but I was never quoted for basic maintenance, just immediately quoted almost $1000 for a bunch of potential problems I didn’t end up having. $980 for a 1-2 hour visit is honestly unacceptable, especially if I was never even told a lower price was an option. I called to share my surprise and was simply told that it’s a set price that benefits people with large complicated jobs with no consideration for people that needed almost no work done and just have to eat the extra price just in case it got more complicated. It would do a lot of good if they were kind enough to cut the charge people that didn’t end up needing all of the extra services they told their customers were very important to use.

**Unreliable Service & Poor Customer Support**. I regret choosing Arc Rotor Rooter for my air conditioning needs. After purchasing a unit through them, it failed completely on Wednesday. Technician Derek ** diagnosed it as a cable issue and charged us $500 for repairs. However, just days later, the entire house lost electricity.
When I called at 6:59 PM to report the outage, I was given a time frame of up to 10 PM for a technician to arrive. I followed up multiple times, each time being assured someone would call me. Yet here I am, at 2:04 AM, only to be told that no technician was ever assigned due to overbooking. They then informed me that I would need to reschedule for another appointment today—after waiting all night. This level of incompetence and mismanagement is completely unacceptable. Arc Rotor Rooter failed to provide timely service, failed to communicate properly, and failed to honor their commitments. I would not recommend them to anyone looking for help or assistance.

Month and a half goes by and the line is clogged again, so they send another tech, the tech is using a snake with a cutting blade on the end of the snake and working the snake in the line the cutting blade breaks off in the line, and he can’t get it out. 3 days later a different tech comes to the house and trying to get the cutting blade out but can’t. He said it might still be in the line or it may not. There was no charge for the last two visits!!! But they just made the problem worst. Have not heard anything from the company roto rooter since!!! If this would let me give "zero" stars I would. I wish I checked the Better Business Bureau before hiring them, because they actually created a situation where I had raw sewage backing up into my showers and sinks. After paying them ~$3,000 to fix my problem I had to pay ~$10,000 to fix the chaos they created, by literally not attaching 2 pipes, they left them end to end with zero fastening or seal. More galling, they refused to accept responsibility and tried to tell me it was my fault, their work failed, which the foreman of the company who did the fix immediately clarified when he showed me where they failed to properly attach the pipe. They tried to shift blame to me and my household; which was insulting in light that we followed every direction to avoid further problems. If you are in Jacksonville, use anyone else.

I had a clogged main drain. Roto-Rooter came out with a traditional snake and cleared the obstruction. They offered to run a camera down the drain the check it out. They found a break. This part of the service cost me 700 bucks. They explained that if I contracted them to fix the break, they would subtract the cost of this from the total. I agreed. Two gentlemen showed up in an unmarked (not Roto-Rooter) truck. In two hours they exposed the break. Repaired it. And covered it back up. I priced out the parts at Home Depot. There is about 75 dollars worth of pvc and fittings. I was charged 624 dollars. That’s a 600 percent markup.
The labor to repair the pipe and to back fill the hole calculates out to roughly 78 an hour for two guys for two hours. That seems somewhat reasonable. 2600 hundred dollars to expose/dig the pipe up. If I apply the same calculations to this, it comes out to 650 bucks an hour to dig. I asked the manager if he was willing to negotiate on all the additional charges/markup. He told me they are a very large corporation and costs are very high. Absolute bold face rip off.

He seemed nice at first but invited two more employees without my consent.
They kept saying they could not fix the clog. They insisted I had to 8,700$ to dig up my front walk way. I told them I would get back to them. After the three men left the original tech and trainee flushed the clog out. By this point I didn’t even have them change the pipe and just paid the 600$ to unclog a drain! I’ve seen multiple reviews where people were told the same or similar things and that they didn’t need it. I hired someone else to change the pipe. They also put a vent on the laundry sink which was what it needed. The rooter employees didn’t mention this at all.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Roto-Rooter, specifically with their Coral Springs location. While I cannot generalize about the company at a national level, the lack of professionalism and honest communication at this branch was striking. As a Spanish landlord, I felt diminished and undervalued due to the absence of reliable communication and respect from their management team. This experience left me with a sense of exclusion, which is concerning in light of broader issues in Florida involving the Spanish community and disabled individuals, irrespective of immigration status.
The dismissive and unprofessional attitude I encountered seemed to reflect a failure to prioritize customer concerns and uphold basic standards of integrity. I hope Roto-Rooter reevaluates its approach to customer service, especially in communities like Coral Springs, to foster fair and inclusive treatment for everyone. If you’re seeking a company that values transparency, accountability, and professionalism, I would strongly recommend exploring other options.

We had an extremely disappointing experience with this company. I only wish we had seen the reviews beforehand—there are so many similar complaints, and now we understand why. After reading countless negative reviews, I’ll keep this brief. It seems that no matter what customers say, the company responds with the same line: “We can’t locate your record.” Anyone reading those responses can tell they’re not being honest. It’s hard to believe so many people would share similar stories if they weren’t true.
We hired them to fix a serious leak in one wall, while the others had only minor issues. However, they insisted on cutting open all the walls—but made it clear they wouldn’t actually fix anything. They would only expose the damage, not repair it. We allowed them to proceed with just the major leak. All they did was cut the wall open and let it dry. That’s it. The job took only a few hours. Then they hit us with a bill for over $2,400. No prior price discussion, no flexibility, no discount—just a massive bill we were stuck paying. We’re incredibly relieved we didn’t let them touch the other areas. Hiring this company was a nightmare.

I wish I had read their reviews before I contacted them and hired them to do a job. I deeply regret my decision to use Roto Rooter. They came out to help me figure out where I had a water leak on my property. The salesperson was not very knowledgeable, and I guided him to the location where we believed the water leak was coming from, based on my investigation. That should have been a red flag, but I moved forward with them anyway. I agreed to replace the main water line rather than repair it. They did not give me the option for the noninvasive procedure. They said their only option was to dig up the yard. I later found out that this was not the only option.
To summarize, they were hired on February 5th. Their excavator person dug up corrugated pipes that were in the ground, designed to help water run away from the house. After they completed the work, water began to seep into the basement. Furthermore, they proceeded to damage the irrigation system and remove the regulator that controls the water flow, turning it on and off between uses. They turned the water meter off instead of fixing the things they had broken. I have had to spend thousands of dollars to repair the damages they caused from their work, and they refuse to compensate me or refund any of the $6,300 I paid them for their work. They also do not communicate or respond in a timely fashion, so it has taken me weeks to try and get anything done. The original person who came to my house stopped responding to me altogether. This has been a terrible experience, and I strongly recommend that you continue searching for another company.

They could not get it cleaned out and told me I would have to have an excavating company come out and dig it up so after about two hours of playing around with his wand to find the line and changing batteries in it about three times he told me he pinpointed the line a couple feet back from the sidewalk and told me it would have to be dug up and replaced. So I hired a excavating company to do it and he told me the line was about 10 foot deep and would be very expensive,, Several thousand dollars. So I thought I better get a second opinion before I paid that kind of money and hired another guy to come out just to find out the line did not even go to the front of the house. The line ran out to the back and run into the main sewer line on the backyard And I ain’t even asked the guy if he was 100% sure that line was out front.
He said, "Yes definitely" so I not only paid him his ridiculous fee, but gave him a tip when I called to complain. They told me well the guy was just trying to give me His best opinion on where the line was. I said, "When you’re in that kind of business you don’t give your best opinion. You have to be 100% sure when it’s gonna cost somebody several thousand dollars or you shouldn’t be in that business." I did get my money back but took several months. Never did get my tip back. Plus he call his supervisor speaking Spanish which is very rude towards any customer. And Gabriel got an attitude towards me and wife. Come to find out they are independent contractors and that’s why they hike the prices up.

I had a Roto-rooter come and not even 2 months later I had the same issue. They did not spend enough time cleaning the main. As in have me flush the toilet repeatedly to make sure it was clear of all debris. I feel they did not either understand the need to keep the device in the pipe while flushed it again and again to remove the all the FOG, this is pulled from the main line This is pulled from their site, After clearing the clog, we machine-clean the entire pipe from end to end, cutting away any remaining roots and debris. We do more than open the drain; your drain pipe or sewer pipeline will be almost as clean as a new pipe and will remain clog-free for a longer period. We’ll do the job right the first time, or we’ll do it again for free.
I told a dispatcher I was not paying another fee for this due to it not being done properly the first time. They did not come out and do the scope for almost 2 months. I had to call twice to get them to reschedule. Then because I said to the dispatch do not give me that crap he told me to watch my mouth. I am 63 years old and saying do not give me that crap he was offended. I am offended that I had to wait 2 months to get the scope and the line was filled with fecal matter and paper. If the scoping had taken place soon after the initial cleaning maybe I would have been able to tell what was going on. I think it is overpriced and not as professional as they claim.

On January 1st, Roto Rooter sent one of their techs to unclog a drain at one of my properties in Merriam, KS. My husband was present at the time the guy arrived and told him he would go in where the toilet was to unclog it. He tried to charge my husband $400 for just removing and replacing he toilet to which my husband said no. My husband removed it and left it sitting in the shower. He had to step away for a moment and while he was away, the guy messaged/called him and told him there had been an accident with the toilet and shower floor and somehow the toilet fell and broke the floor. My husband got back and he spoke to the guy and asked him how that was possible if he left them in good condition before he left. After a while he admitted to my husband that he may have leaned on it while working. My husband did not pay him the $450 for the service but we called and asked to speak to one of their supervisors.
I clearly told the supervisor (Conrad Bradley) that same day that I had no problem paying but they had to fix what they damaged first. The sup then told me to send photos of the damages. I did and they took a long time to get back with me. When I finally did, they said it's because I didn't send the photo of the broken toilet. I apologized and sent it. After a few days later all I received was an email saying they were not going to do anything about it and we should call it even since I did not pay them. They also stated that we signed a document that stated they were not liable since they did not remove and replace the toilet. First of all, we never signed such document. They put my name on there and I was not present at the time. I was at work. My husband was the one that was there and his name was nowhere on that piece of paper.
I asked for someone to reach back out to my husband and he spoke with the GM I believe. He lost service since by this time my husband was out of the country. When he got back we spoke to another supervisor. I believe his name was Tom. In short, he said that his tech told him he never leaned on the toilet and that it fell because the was ring was on it and that nobody broke anything. So, these people think that because they did not charge us for the service it makes everything ok. Now we are stuck with having to pay a plumber to fix the shower, get a new shower floor and toilet. This is way more than $450.
Basically, we paid these people to damage our property and now we just have to eat that and call it a day. Worst experience ever! Being a big company that you are, you could have just tried to reach an agreement with your customer to make it right, but no, instead you decided our business is insignificant to you. Shame on you! All you people involved in this fraud gave this company a bad reputation. I will never again deal with this company nor refer anybody else!!

Updated on 06/12/2025: They replied to my review with a "we are sorry, contact us" response. When you contact them, they do not reach back out to you. This is the same canned response they use on all poor reviews just for the optics. Shame on this company.
Original: Can I give them negative stars? This company is a joke. They use deceptive business practices, lie, employees steal and come to the job while they've been drinking, don't show up when promised, are unprofessional, and do very poor quality work. We had a sewer backed up and from the first night I told them how apprehensive I was because of some experiences I've heard about with them. Justin, the main tech said, "Well everyone has their opinions." Every second of dealing with Roto Rooter showed me that I hadn't heard "opinions" but fact. Nothing about the clean out/tear out job in the basement was done as we were told it would be.
Two weeks later and there is still sewage in the basement, where they supposedly cleaned. They tore ceiling tiles out that insurance won't replace....please tell me how ceiling tile got damaged by the sewer water that was on the floor. They half tore down a shelf and left it hanging on the wall and busted some plumbing while taking out the shower, and tried to say it was already broken. I was told, "We've been known to mess stuff up," but in vulgar language. The job "lead" Jaimin, showed up and reeked of alcohol. He didn't have tools needed to tear out the shower so he borrowed some of mine....and never gave them back. He tried to take equipment that belonged to another company. I could go in and on about the experience inside. The experience with excavating outside was just as bad. We had to have a piece of sewer pipe replaced.
From the beginning it was a nightmare. The "lead" Brent told us where the pipe was and started digging...14 feet down and no sewer pipe. I got 2 different sewer maps from the city and gave them, and then they dug another trench in the wrong spot. Trench #3 and we finally had success. They didn't come prepared with things they needed and kept having to leave and come back. They didn't even try to make our yard look decent filling the trenches they made. Our yard is so tore up, it's terrible. They took out big chunks of the street at the curb and end of our driveway being careless with their equipment. They also didn't fill in dirt that they took out from under our porch slab.
The cleanout pipe sticking out of our yard is crooked. We paid for a certain back flow valve to be installed outside, while they were replacing the pipe. Instead they installed a different valve in our basement. When we complained that it was wrong, we were told the city inspector told them that city code said it had to be installed inside. I work for the city and sit next to the inspector....there was never a conversation had about the valve and city code does NOT say that the valve should be installed inside. I pulled the ring video and confirmed that a conversation about the valve was never had. Please, please, DO NOT use Roto Rooter for anything....not even to simply snake a drain.

I should have gotten all fees in writing before they proceeded because I have a very reputable and excellent insurance company but Roto Rooter's fees were considered excessive. I had this company come to investigate a leaking shower faucet in October. It cost me $799 for them to swap out a cartridge which they explicitly told me was not under warranty. Delta parts are never under warranty. At the time I didn’t know this was a lie. The charge for the cartridge to me was $177. In February the cartridge started to make horrible noise. I called them back. $400 later and another cartridge cost of $111 (not sure why the parts cost was so different) they replaced the cartridge. That evening my shower faucet was leaking again. They came back a third time and miraculously told me the cartridge was now under warranty. It only clued in when I saw the package of the new cartridge this being the third at Delta brand. The two times prior the cartridge was actually a generic one never a Delta. This time things seem to have been fixed. My disappointment in this organization is that they lie.
The costs of parts are inconsistent, and they use generic versus brand products without being upfront with the customer and letting them approve the cost of the part as well as the brand. I can’t explain how many times they told me Delta parts, including the cartridge was not under warranty however, to my surprise, it sure is under warranty and covered. I will never use this company again. I will continue to ensure others are aware of their risks as they take using them. They are not honest and overcharge for a horrible job. $1200 later.. I’ll never make the mistake again.

Updated on 03/02/2025: Inconsistent Service Quality is exactly what I was subjected to. After my 2nd complaint against Roto-Rooter for breaking my door I received a call from a customer service rep whose repose was generally the technician said the door was up when he left. So what it boils down to is he broke my door and he lied. Talk about dishonest. I didn't even ask them to replace or repair the door. I only wanted them to acknowledge the FACT that my newly installed door was broken off the track and I mean completely broken when he installed a water tank that was clearly larger than the one that had been there for years.
It's absolutely offensive that the support of your customers is limited to, "We got your money and the guy that took it did not damage the door". That's a lie and the manager that called me on Saturday Morning is clearly covering for the ineptness of his service technicians. There's not a whole lot you can do when they have your money and they've left your property. I should have inspected the door before he left. However I trusted the service and I trusted the tech.
DON'T DO IT. The product comes from your local big box store and the service is overpriced. I would not recommend this company friends family or seniors. I would not recommend a company who can't take ownership of the harm and cost of their screw up. Perhaps breaking the door was an accident but HE DID BREAK IT. I wish I could give them less than one star but you have to put one in to submit the review. OH WELL. I won't call them again if they are the last plumbing service in the world.
Original: I thought the service was great in light of the need. The tech came out to give me an assessment and a quote. Even before looking at the job he told me it would be $2400.00. That wasn't the issue since I did need to repair the problem immediately. I agree to the payment and even got a senior discount of $100.00. Big deal. The internet promotion offered $80.00 for online same date. Long and short the service was okay but after I inspected the area when the tech left my home he broke the door. Didn't just take it off the track. It was broken. A piece of wood that held the movable post onto the track was broken....The tech told me everything was done and he put the door back up but what he actually did was placed the door against he wall. I tried to close it a few hours after he left when I was cleaning up and mopping the mud.
The door was broken and needed to be replaced. That would only cost about $300.00 and I would not have been upset if he had just told me he "broke the door". I am reasonably understanding and the door had been replaced three years ago when we renovated the basement. I called the company to let them know the door was broken and the technician didn't bother to tell me but he got paid. The party answering the phone reminded me that I only paid $2300.00 not $2400.00 and he was sorry that I was not informed that my door was broken. He also told me that a manager would call me within three hours. That didn't happen either. I wold have given Roto Rooter a much higher review but this incident reminded me why I have not used them in a while.
If I had called my contractor I would have paid almost $1,000.00 less than Roto Rooter charged me but if my contractor broke or damaged something he/they would at least let me know before they left my property. I am not recommending Roto Rooter for that reason only. You got paid. I accepted the finished product and thought the job was great. I listened to a 2 minute spill on the operations of my new hot water tank. I HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW DOOR FOR the furnace closet because I had to duct tape it closed to keep my dogs out. All they had to do was let me know they broke my door and I would not be angry maybe a little upset but I did not pay Roto Rooter $2300.00 to do damage. I paid them to do repairs!!!!
It's easy to lose trust in a person or a business when you are deceived by such small issues. Good customer service includes honesty. I would again be less concerned about a damaged door if he had just told me. Furthermore they sent a couple of guys out for "remediation". I did not have any flooding damage. I had a leak which I called about immediately before it became a major problem. It was an old tank....But I guess old habits come naturally to some....Do damage and run....

Do NOT work with Roto-Rooter. This is a terrible company to work with. Their team worked on our water remediation project. The project manager was quite inaccessible and would not promptly respond to my questions. I felt like I was directing some of the work with the subcontractors used and following up as needed to keep the process going. Further than that, there were many errors on their invoices sent to me including billing me for items they didn't even do (the subcontractors did). Prior to starting the work I was assured that because they use Xactimate (which has defined prices for certain tasks - generally accepted by insurance companies), Rotorooter could never price gouge. I think in theory perhaps that's true, but they can price gouge if they literally make up items they didn't even do.
Rotorooter only removed some of the items after I disputed them, but I wasn't able to get them to remove all of them. I considered suing them, but I don't want to deal with that headache. Their invoices went through multiple revisions and whenever I went to call to pay, they were still requesting the higher amounts. I had to say no, we brought that down to X amount. Then the accounts receivable person would say oh yes I see that now... They would have been very happy to take the higher amounts even though they already agreed to the lower amounts. It's as if they were holding them and hoping I'd slip up and pay the higher amount without noticing. I fully regret using their services and will never be using them again.

My 20th email to Rotor Rooter in 2 weeks. Doubt anyone will reply as per usual, but will give you an idea of what to expect when hiring this company. I am writing this email out of sheer frustration and disbelief at the appalling level of unprofessionalism and incompetence I have experienced with your company. I have spent countless hours on the phone, sending emails, and following up, only to be ignored, passed around from one person to another, or given false promises that were never followed through. This is, without a doubt, one of the most disorganized and infuriating experiences I have ever had with a service provider. I have never witnessed this level of incompetence and unprofessionalism across an entire company. I will never recommend roto router to anyone that I like and most definitely never hire anyone who is remotely associated with the company.
The ordeal started on January 24th at 7 am when my sprinkler line cracked in the garage due to extremely cold weather. I called several companies and when Rotor Rooter informed me that they can get here within hours (at 2pm at the latest as per recorded phone call) I decided to go with them SOLELY on their ETA alone. I took off from work for the first half of the day waiting on water mitigation and Plummers to arrive. When nobody showed up by 3, I was informed that 2 pm is not actually the time they would get there but it was rather a window of 2-6 which the operator never told me about. At 6 pm there were still no sign of the water mitigation people. I kept calling to check on their ETA and I kept being told by everyone that "they are busy and will arrive soon". While I understand that weather conditions cause an influx in service tickets, nobody should have promised me a 2 pm or earlier window while I was making an appointment.
Finally after about 6th call at 9 pm, the water mitigation crew consisting of 2 guys who smelled like weed armed with their cell phones as flash lights arrived to my property. There was still no sign of the plumber who is the person that I really needed, since we had no water coming to the house for over 12 hours at that point. I called yet again. The person on the phone informed me that I didn't reply to the automated appointment confirmation and this is the reason why the plumber didn't come. When I informed her that not only I replied to the message within a minute (attached) I also called several times to see where he is. The story changed and she then proceeded to inform me that the plumber had a family emergency and took our request off the schedule without telling the central office. This is after I waited for him to arrive for 14 hours..
So they decided to send another plumber who finally arrived at 10 pm. Looked at the pipe for all of 20 seconds with his phone flash light and informed us that they don't work on sprinkler pipes and we will need to contact a fire and sprinkler company. By miracle we were able to get a hold of a technician who came out on Saturday and fixed it.
Back to the water mitigation crew. Since they arrived on Friday they moved at approximate speed of molasses to do repairs. They came out in the middle of the night for 3 days in a row to take down 1 wall and part of the ceiling. Every time I went out to check on them to see If they need anything, one guy was sitting in the car while the other one slowly moving about the garage with no real purpose. On Sunday when we were finally able to turn the water back on ( because the sprinkler line glue needed 24 hours to dry) we discovered that the water mitigation committee knocked off a cap of the sprinkler line on the whole other side of the garage where we previously didn’t have any damage while they were taking out the insulation. This cost me another $400 in repairs and 24 hours without water.
On Monday a rotor rooter inspector came out to do humidity readings and to close out the ticket. He informed us that none of the required work has been done and they left a whole wall intact that needed to be taken down and at this point was molding and needed to be taken down immediately. Then he left. No follow up. No crew to come fix it. Nothing. I was calling all week for somebody to come out and finish the job. Talked to 4 supervisors and god knows how many agents. By Friday or Thursday (30/31) a week after the incident they sent more people out to finish the job.
After they left I spoke to Farnom on Friday to see who will be paying for all these extra labor hours and the pipe that they damaged and he told me that he will send somebody out to look at the pipe as soon as possible ( Monday at the latest). No surprise nobody came. I am also waiting on the damage report because my insurance company will not do an estimate without it. Somebody called my husband yesterday (February 5) 2 weeks since the incident and said that they will come to look at the pipe. He took off work and waited. Nobody came and they didn’t even have the decency to notify him that they weren’t coming.
So it is now February 5th (2 weeks since the incident) I have a torn up garage, which may or may not be finished, I have no estimate of the damages, I have no appraisal to start the repairs, I don’t have any word on who is paying for the damages caused to the sprinkler line by your employees. I have called Farnom 4 times this week and left messages, he hasn’t even bothered returning my calls to update me on the reasons why all the things he promised me are not happening a week after he said they would. And he is supposed to be your supervisor who handles customer complaints.
Come on guys. I should not have to leave a review on every platform that internet has to offer and write to corporate in order to address a host of very simple issues. You have pretty good reviews online which is confusing because this is not what I have experienced while working with you at all. This has been a lengthy frustrating process that a company of your caliber should not be proud of. And it's not just one employee, it’s the whole Maryland branch that has fallen short during every encounter. I have been more than patient, and I am done being ignored. I expect an immediate response and resolution to this matter.

The site claims they have flat rate services and pre quotes in writing before doing anything. We had plumbing backing up. So a guy showed up, snaked the pipes from the roof. Then he came down and removed the toilet and snaked from there. After this he said happily, "I got the blockage and snaked all the way to the street. So you are good to go." He wrote up the statement that was suppose to have been done in the first place. $600. Ok I was fine with that if it worked. It did not. 2 hrs later toilet is flushed. Again it backs up.
I am definitely thinking I got taken for $600. He tried to tell me if I had cash there is a discount for that. Nope I put it on my credit card. And the toilet was placed back on the floor with a fresh wax seal. "No charge" he said. The toilet wobbles. I went to check. None of the screws are tightened. I tightened them down. The toilet still wobbles. No clue what was done. But the toilet is not sitting right now. Keep looking. The promises on the site are wrong. They do not guarantee the job is done for a set price. They charge an hourly fee then scoot out and leave it unfinished.

1/23/2025-1/27/2025. Beware of their predatory sales practices. They came and immediately tried to pressure me into calling insurance, quoting me $2000-7000 for a burst pipe and water mitigation services, which ultimately only amounted to a fixed pipe (not included in the quote, and $1350 extra) and air dryers. They are trying to charge me $2600 in addition for the equipment, monitoring, cleaning, protective equipment, and their own travel to and from my house. They cannot explain the charges and told me that because I was not in the business, "I would not understand." This is after I emailed them a couple times to no response other than, "You already paid the $2000 deposit, this invoice is just for the $600 extra."
They are claiming that they performed 8.5 hours worth of work, when they were only in my house for less than 2 hours. Their work has been so inconsistent and unsatisfactory that I now have to call another trusted professional to come out and check the work behind them. I received three different diagnoses on what needed to be done to mitigate the water, with no real examination besides using a moisture meter. Their "cleaning" charge amounted to a guy putting a towel down and wiping it around with his foot.
I asked why I was paying for them to have gloves, and got shamed because that meant I didn't want them to have protective equipment. When asked who should be paying for the gloves, I told them that it's THEIR responsibility as an employer. Wendy ** was extremely rude and combative, and the manager for the mitigation department avoided my emails and ducked my call, so obviously they expect insurance to just pay for everything without a second thought. My deductible is high enough that this does not qualify, so now I'm left paying out of pocket to a company that did the same amount of work as if I rented some fans from Home Depot.

On January 9th I called Roto Rooter in Georgia for a clog in my home. They scheduled someone to come out within the next hour or two. We had some water back up in a downstairs bathroom which we had completely cleaned up by the time the plumber arrived. When he got there I showed him the toilet and said it was clogged and it will overflow if flushed. He flushed the toilet and water got everywhere again. He said he would remove the toilet and clear the clog with a drain snake for $816 and that would cover everything and he would put everything back like it was.
Although this seemed like a very high price for a clog I wanted a professional company to do the work. He pulled the toilet and cleared the clog with a snake quickly. He put everything back together and had me sign and pay then he left. I went into the bathroom to clean up and saw that the toilet was wobbly and extremely loose. I also noticed my shutoff valve next to the toilet was rapidly leaking water all over the floor. I called him back and he returned quickly. He attempted to replace the shut off valve with a replacement he had in his truck and installed it wrong twice. Both times I would turn on the water for him and the valve would blow off and spray water all over the place since he installed a compression valve on pex without placing the insert inside the pex tubing which it says to do on the valve box instructions.
At this point I was beyond frustrated. He put the old valve back on since Home Depot was closed and he couldn’t go to purchase a new one. The leak almost went away at this point. He tightened down the loose toilet and it was 90% less wobbly but not as good as before he was ever there. He left again after this. I proceeded to clean the mess again and noticed he left a new bolt sticking out of the toilet uncut so you can’t put the cover on. He also left the escutcheon plate off of the wall opening. There were also scratches all over the wall which was spotless beforehand.
I called the office number on his card for Norcross GEorgia after the weekend and spoke to Mr. Timothy ** about the sloppy work / experience and he said I would get a call to schedule someone to come out at my convenience to fix the issues. 2 weeks later I have received no calls and unable to get back on the phone with Mr ** after multiple attempts of calling his office and leaving messages with him and the receptionists. No one was any help at fixing the issues they created.
- Escutcheon left off wall- Bolt uncut on toilet
- Wall scratched
- Toilet loose
- Old shut off valve reinstalled when needing replaced
- Water everywhere

I strongly discourage anyone from using Roto-Rooter for plumbing services. They charged us an outrageous $100 per minute, only to provide a temporary “rigged” solution to a plumbing issue. After consulting other plumbers who reviewed their work, it became clear their approach was subpar and far from professional. Just a month after they “fixed” the issue, another leak appeared—clearly coming from the same line. When I called them back to investigate, a different person from the company came out. Instead of taking responsibility, they made excuses, saying they weren’t the ones who handled the first repair and had no way of knowing what was done. Aren’t professionals supposed to share notes and document their work? If you’re charging hundreds of dollars for a repair, the least you can do is perform the job correctly the first time.
To make matters worse, they claimed I needed a whole new water heater unit because it was “rusted.” I guess the rust must have magically accumulated in just a month since their last visit. This felt like another excuse to upcharge rather than address the real issue. The only bright spot in this entire experience was the water cleanup crew—they were amazing. I just wish I could say the same for the plumbers. After the whole experience and hearing from others in the community, it’s clear this company has a bad reputation for overcharging and cutting corners. Save yourself the headache and hire a reliable, honest plumber instead.

Updated on 02/19/2025: I worked through Pat ** to make contact with Mark, the local Water Mitigation manager. Pat **, as a liaison, can do no more than strongly encourage that the local franchise's management call you. Mark was not good about following up when he said he would, and I had to both call him and follow up with Pat ** to get him to call back. He did assure me they were performing an internal review of the account and would contact me with the results. According to Pat **, he did contact me with the final decision, but he did not, and it was only Pat's communication that let me know that after their internal review they had charged everything correctly.
What consumers need to know is that during their internal review, they did not ask me for any more information, such as my insurance company's analysis of what the job should have cost, nor for my analysis of the differences between the two. Additionally, they did not come out to the house and remeasure a room that was mis-measured and increased the size of the job by 33 square feet.
The other thing that people should know is that at no time has any of the management at either the corporate or local level considered that if a senior manager had contacted me during the process to apologize for the low estimate, explain in detail that a change in the scope of work was necessary and give me a new, detailed estimate of the work remaining and ask if I wanted them to continue, then I could have made an informed decision. Rather they had one of their technicians ask me to sign for what I thought was just some additional equipment with an explanation that they could not tell me how much more that it would be because it all gets calculated in Exactimate (a system to which no consumer has access). I have not had a good experience with this company, I feel betrayed putting my trust in them and I cannot recommend that anyone use Roto-Rooter's water mitigation services.
Original Review: Roto Rooter is quick to respond and the pre-sales managers and technicians were all friendly. The technicians accomplished quality work in a timely manner. Most individuals that visited our home came in company vehicles and wore company uniforms. There was one individual, though that regularly arrived in an older camper van and did not wear company attire. This individual made us uncomfortable, but went about their work and did not bother us. The issues with Roto Rooter we had, however, and the reason for the one-star review is the lack of transparency in their estimates and billing. We were quoted $15,000-20,000 for water mitigation services, but ultimately charged $35,000, $15,000 more than the top estimate without any insight into what we were being charged during the process.
In our situation, the county sewer line had backed up into our home at peak flood leaving eight inches of black water in our finished basement. We called Roto Rooter and they responded quickly at night. The technician helped us determine that we needed to call the county and because of their quick thinking we were able to get the county out that night to clear the line and get the water out. The next day the Roto Rooter Water Mitigation Services folks came out and gave us the estimate of $15,000 to $20,000 to clean up the mess, including demolition. This seemed like a lot, but the sales manager made it sound like everything would be included. It was noted on the contract that the charges would be "Per Xactimate" and "the actual price will be based on our actual work but could exceed that estimate".
I asked their manager what they thought it would actually be and his thought was probably in the $17,000 range. What I did not realize, but should have, is that they had, in essence, written themselves a blank check on our project. If I had to do it again, I would have changed the contract to say "Not to exceed the Maximum estimate without customer approval of a re-estimate by Roto Rooter" and not signed anything until they accepted that.
We worked alongside the crew to get what possessions we could salvage out of the basement and allowed them to dispose of the rest. Then they began the actual drying process. During this process, one of the technicians said they would need to bring some more equipment out and it would cost just a little bit more. I asked how much and I was referred to Xactimate (a system that I could not get to see what I was spending). I trusted that they would try to keep to their estimates (bad assumption) and signed for what I thought was just the equipment. It turns out I signed a change of scope that had no documentation about how the scope was changing, just “Per Xactimate”.
Finally, everything was clean and dry again and I was shocked to receive a bill that was $15,000 more than the high estimate! I spoke to my insurance company about this, and they said they have had trouble with Roto Rooter in the past charging for things that were part of the renovation side and not the mitigation side. I also found in pouring through the extensive bill with the insurance company that room sizes were incorrect, the amount of sanitization used was more than normal and that extraction of water from the concrete, final cleanup and other services were not customary charges. We tried to work through this with Roto Rooter’s billing, but they would not look at any dispute that was not in a very specific format. By the time I was able to get this worked out between them and our insurance, we were threatened by Roto Rooter with a lien against our property.
We are people that pay our bills, so I paid the full amount we had been charged, even though I feel we were stonewalled to the point where we had no choice but to pay it. Roto Rooter has said that they will review what they finally accepted from the insurance company, but we have heard nothing for several weeks. While Roto Rooter did quality work, their business practices with regard to cost transparency and billing are designed so that they can charge the customer whatever they want and the customer has no way to track the cost nor ability to dispute it once the final bill is issued. I cannot recommend anyone use Roto Rooter Water Mitigation services because of this experience.

Since Roto-Rooter (RR) operates as a franchise model I want to be clear that this review is specific to the location in Farmington Hills, MI and not the company as a whole or other franchises. In case you don’t want to read through my ordeal, here is what I learnt: Never hand over your credit card without checking the invoice. Make sure that the warranty marked down on the invoice meets your expectations and what has been discussed. I learnt that RR has standard guarantees for different services, but that the Rep can make changes based on his own judgment. There is a designated area for that on the invoice. In my case the rep told me it was twelve months but wrote on the invoice “One return”.
Beware of upselling tactics. Not sure what the compensation structure is but wouldn’t be surprised if commissions are a big part of it. So, before agreeing to a service like hydro jetting ask for a free camera inspection should the problem reoccur within 6 months. If the rep declines but points to his/her experience, you know the reps experience is not something you can bank on. Have the line just snaked instead, otherwise you might be $600 out of pocket without anything to show for it. After that it’s going to be another $350 for camera inspection + whatever permanent fix is required. If the rep agrees make sure it’s written on the invoice. My advice to the franchise: Find someone to help you get organized and develop your processes. I have no advice on integrity. It's who you are and you either have it or you don’t.
My experience: I called RR to deal with a backed-up floor drain. The representative identified a plugged sewage line as the culprit and rather than just having the line snaked for $300 recommended having the line hydro-jetted for $900 (think of it as pressure washing the pipe from the inside). I was told this would prevent further clogs in the foreseeable future and should anything happen, the service was covered under a 12-month warranty. I went for it. Two weeks later my floor drain backed up again. To be fair, RR came out and restored flow. Fast forward another two weeks and the floor drain backs up again...
This is where it gets ugly: I am being told that removing the clog would cost $300. I remind the representative of the 12-month warranty just to be told that the 12-month warranty is limited to one visit. I ask what about the extra $600 for hydro-jetting and the prognosis that this would alleviate future issues. After some unpleasant back and forth and defensive statements that seem well rehearsed, I grudgingly pay the bill and carry on with my life. After that it becomes almost comical: A supervisor calls the same evening and apologizes for the bad experience, and we agree that he would perform a camera inspection free of charge the following day in the afternoon.
At 10am the following day a different representative shows up at our house convinced he has to snake the sewage pipe again. I tell him this has already been done so he proceeds to offer me a camera inspection. I ask him if it was for free as agreed and he says it would cost $350. I sent him home. Around noon representative #3 shows up saying the supervisor cannot make it and sent him instead and he was ready to give us a quote on any necessary remediation work. I sent him home as well. I finally reach out to the supervisor to figure out what that was all about. I never got a response. I guess it all checks out.

During a winter storm, our kitten ran into the clean out drain and got stuck. We called Roto Rooter and without hesitation, they dispatched Jordan who got to us in less than 30 minutes. After digging and gaining access to the pipe, we realized the cat was further under the house. We thought she would come out after the shock of hearing the power saw, but Jordan wanted to make sure. He sat out in the cold trying every trick in the book to get her out. After more than an hour, another worker came to assist, using a camera to locate the cat. Once realizing she was stuck, they had to go on top of the house and use tools to dislodge the kitten from the pipe. When pulled out, the kitten was covered in sewage and not happy about it, but they didn't let her slip out of their grip and brought her to our front door. After all of their work, they stayed and repaired the pipe and covered the hole that was dug down about 4 feet.
There was no way we would have been able to rescue the kitten on our own, and Roto Rooter did all of this with No Charge. Jordan was amazing and determined to rescue the cat. He was very patient, hard working, and kind. If we have any plumbing issues, the first call I'm making is to Roto Rooter. We will forever be grateful for their services. Ps. Technician looked at the heater and said it needs to be relit. He immediately pressed on the button and pilot light appeared within 10 sec. He got up and said - 385$. This price is well beyond ridiculous for 30 sec of work, but we actually only asked them to come for free estimate. As it happens unit was totally fine and only needed to pressed the right button. Did great work for us when we needed - was an emergency situation, washing machine drain backing up into our basement. It it has been 1 MONTH and we have been sitting with a giant hole which they dug up in our backyard. Office does not return our calls and has been giving us bogus dates/time frames of when they will come back to fill it. I am ok with waiting but ignoring calls and giving us appointments and then not showing up is absolutely ridiculous. We are now on our 3rd scheduled appointment to back fill which at this rate they most likely will not show up. Level of professionalism is at a 0. Customer service is 0. If I could give less than one star, I would. I highly caution anyone looking for a sewer line replacement or any project requiring excavation. Roto Rooter caused a huge nightmare for me. They failed to get the project inspected, which caused the need to redo the project. That means they had to excavate my yard a second time due to shoddy work the first time. It took them over three months to complete the job. They broke several electrical lines, left dead shrubbery in my yard, broke my landscaping lights, and left various debris on my property.
The management clearly doesn't know what they are doing. Two managers gaslit me several times, manipulating the situation. The general manager clearly doesn't care because he never returned my emails or calls. These guys are not trustworthy and cause more harm than good. They are also very overpriced. Please think twice before hiring them. There are much better companies with integrity out there. It goes without saying that I would NEVER recommend this terrible company.

Never call Roto-Rooter for any service!! Our sump pump was not working and basement carpet was wet. We called Roto Rooter to help install new sump pump and mitigate the water damage. They said our insurance company will cover everything so we agreed to start the work but when we get the invoice for just the water damage part, it was overpriced. We tried to contact field supervisor and claim coordinator but they didn’t want to have a call with us. We only got a few emails saying that the payment is due soon. Below are more details:
1. Invoice is overcharged. Since Roto Rooter knows our insurance company will cover up to $10,000, they tried to maximize the charge and invoiced us $14,500 which is not fair to customer. The quantities of equipment used for water damage mitigation on the invoices are not reasonable. The photos included in the invoice can’t support the quantities of equipment they charged on the invoice. We tried many times to connect with Roto-Rooter field supervisor and claim coordinator to get more explanations, but no one wants to have a call with us.
The only response we got was a few emails which didn’t provide any reasonable explanations about why the invoice was overcharged. They just kept saying that the invoice is due soon and we need to pay. We do want to pay but only to the extent the invoice has reasonable charge. Below are couple examples of the Equipment Log and breakdown in their Mitigation Claim report didn’t match their work. They listed a decent breakdown of charge but if you look into details, many items are not necessary or overcharged.
a. They put around 10-15 air movers as proposed but they charged 20.b. Charged anti-microbial agent application for over 1000 square feet but our basement area is around 700-800 square feet.
c. They charged you over $800 to install 220v power box without communicating with customer in advance.
d. Trip numbers and hours were overcharged. Why you spent over two hours per trip? They charged you even on holiday which they didn’t send anyone here.
e. The Equipment Log needs to be signed by customer but they didn’t ask for my signatures and didn’t go through the total quantities with us.
f. Emergency after hour over charge. Worked here only two Saturdays but they charged more than that. In addition, agreed completion date was not achieved.
2. As mentioned above, we tried to text and call Roto-Rooter field supervisor, Peter and claim coordinator, Patti but did not get responsive answer. Only email back and forth with Patti and she asked Louis ** and Doug ** to review it on 12/17 and also copied Customer Satisfaction Manager Pat ** but didn’t get any response. Followed up with Patti on 12/18 and she said she will let them reviewed EOBD 12/19. Until now we didn’t get any response.
3. The contract stated the estimation is $5000 to $1000 so we signed the contract but when we tried to dispute with Roto-Rooter on the overcharged invoice, they stated there was a typo in the singed contract. This misled us to agree with the contract at the beginning of the job. The total amount was not communicated with customer and not transparency until we got final bill. Making customer feels ripped off and uncomfortable.
4. One of my signature on log was forged (not my signature). Now we have the concern if they copied and paste my signature to wherever we didn’t agree. They didn’t give you the chance to read all documents when you signed on their phone.

I knew their cost for way out of line but after reading the other reviews here I see others have had that problem take heat and warning everyone who wants to use Roto-Rooter. Do NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE MODERN-DAY SWINDLERS. inflated charges, and blatant disregard for customer service or accountability. The Nightmare Begins On 12/4/24, I contacted Roto-Rooter for what I assumed would be routine service—a clogged pipe in my basement. What followed was an outrageous sequence of events that culminated in thousands of dollars in unnecessary charges, threats of collections, and utter frustration.
Trumped-Up Charges and Manipulation. The technician started with a sky-high estimate of $30,000, a figure I immediately questioned. Despite my protests, I was assured this was “just a range” and not to be concerned: “I’m sending you the contract. Don’t be scared with the price—it’s just a range because I didn’t go there. It’s just a number we put. We can always go down, never up. But you’re covered by insurance.” This was a blatant lie. I was told they needed to “exact the water” and clean the walls to prevent mold. However, by the evening of 12/5/24, the basement was in worse condition than before! The clogged pipe remained untouched, and the flooding had escalated.
The $27,000 Cleanup That Achieved Nothing. When I raised concerns, Roto-Rooter sent two additional plumbers, one of whom claimed the issue was a broken pipe beneath the sidewalk. This supposed “specialist” insisted that a $13,000 repair would be required on top of the $27,000 mitigation fee and the $1,872 water removal charge. When I asked for photographic evidence of the broken pipe, he admitted he had none but demanded I “trust him.” His exact words! “It’s okay because we will pump out the water; the pipe won’t get worse, I promise.” I knew something was wrong. Instead of falling for this outrageous scam, I contacted a smaller plumber I had used before. Within a day, they completed the mitigation, water removal, and pipe inspection for just $1,000. The result; No broken pipe, no further flooding, and no $13,000 charge.
Roto Rooter’s Response: Excuses and Gaslighting. When I confronted Roto-Rooter with this information, their response was appalling. Emails to their representative (**) went unanswered. When they finally responded, they offered nothing but a generic apology, dismissing my concerns with this infuriating excuse: “You keep bringing up the estimated pricing for $13k, but it was NOT charged to you. It was mentioned, and you have no invoice for this amount!” This is a textbook case of gaslighting. The fact that I avoided being charged the $13,000 doesn’t erase their attempt to defraud me—or the $27,000 they still charged for a service that failed to resolve the issue.
Bullying Tactics and Threats. To make matters worse, Roto-Rooter has resorted to harassment. They are now threatening to report me to collections and ruin my credit if I don’t pay the full bill immediately. One representative even wrote: “Please know that with the signed contract, I am liable to collect the payment due.” This kind of bullying is unacceptable. No customer should be subjected to threats after exposing fraudulent practices.
A Final Warning to Future Customers. My experience with Roto-Rooter is not just about financial loss—it’s about a company exploiting homeowners in vulnerable situations. Their targeting of certain communities and reliance on inflated charges, false claims, and intimidation is deeply troubling. I am taking action. My attorney will be reaching out shortly, and I will ensure my story is heard across every possible outlet. I’ll be posting reviews on Google, Yelp, the Better Business Bureau, and social media. News networks will also be contacted.
To those considering Roto-Rooter: Avoid this company at all costs. Their actions are unethical, their services subpar, and their customer treatment abhorrent. Let my story serve as a warning to unsuspecting homeowners everywhere. Photos of the damage and documentation of this debacle will be provided so potential customers can see for themselves what $27,000 of “service” from Roto-Rooter looks like. Roto Rooter: Your bullying won’t work, and your fraudulent practices won’t go unchallenged.

Nobody wants to deal with a gurgling toilet that doesn’t empty and stinks up the house. Called the Cape Coral office in the morning and a tech was scheduled to come out later in the afternoon. And, he called to say that he was able to arrive earlier than originally booked. Steve, the tech, was awesome. He clearly explained the process for diagnosing our plumbing issue and associated costs. Our drain basically got a colonoscopy where a large blockage was discovered (we got to see it on a monitor). Steve told us how it was going to get fixed and then updated us as he progressed. He cleaned up afterwards. While we hope we never have to deal with this issue again, we would definitely call Roto-Rooter if we did.

CONSUMER BEWARE! ALWAYS get a second opinion! I SAVED nearly $6k by seeking a second quote. Roto-Rooter will try to take advantage of people whenever they can. They immediately went to the extreme rather than logical, seemingly easier ways to fix the problem. On 12/16/2024 I contacted Roto-Rooter because of a draining issue with my bathtub. A technician came out about 7:30 pm and evaluated the situation. We crawled in the crawl space and concluded that he was going to snake the line. He removed the toilet adjacent to the bath tub and proceeded to snake the line. He claimed he went the extent of his line (100 ft) and didn't resolve anything. The distance from the main to the street was no more than 35-40 feet. He proceeded to call a coworker who was going to camera the line. At his arrival, it was clear that he had jurisdiction over the initial technician and started calling the shots.
This second technician began painting the story that would require exploratory excavation of my front lawn with no guarantee that it would resolve the situation. In his explanation, he began telling me that this would have cost nearly $20k but because of their "new" pricing scheme, it would be "significantly" less... more like $10k. He continued to try to bait me with invalidated pricing anywhere from $17k to $10k which I assume was to try to get to a number I was comfortable with. I held my ground and refused to agree to their proposed work on the spot.
I asked him to email me his quote. His official quote was $6750.00 of which 50% was expected up front and was not comprehensive. In the quote they provided, it indicated "if further damage is found we will discuss options at that time." Additionally, they would not be able to start work until 12/18/2024. I was able to resolve the issue for $1k WITHOUT exploratory excavation. Moreover, the work was completed on 12/17/24. There is NO WAY I will call on these guys again!

Following my negative review, Roto Rooter called and scheduled a follow-up to address my issues. I did appreciate their concern for me as a customer and willingness to come again at no charge.
Original Review: Dec. 18, 2024
I believe they deliberately made a pinhole in the supply line after coming to service the drain line. Buyer beware. A service man came to snake a kitchen sink. He went into the basement and opened an access panel to view the pipe from below. When he was done snaking. A supply line pipe (which is not the drain line) had a leak all of a sudden. He wanted to call his friend and charge me anywhere from 400 to 1000 more dollars to fix.

EDIT: First, I’ll mention while the repair tech that initially fixed my leak did so in a very timely manner, the reason for my initial “5 Star” review was created solely to receive $200 discount off their repair fee. As for the rest of my experience with Roto-Rooter, by far the worst service imaginable. From unprofessional scare tactics, to seemingly deliberate hiding of cost, to dysfunction between teams, to mishandling of filing claim, and overall disaster of customer service which led to immediate claim denial and mob-like behavior in collecting payment for their incredibly overpriced services.
The initial tech that arrived was only here to explain their services and plan of action. Expressing the time sensitive nature when filing a claim for leaks in order for any insurance to accept the claim. That if I shop around I may not be able use my homeowners insurance to cover the damages because the can no longer can be determined as cause by “initial onset.” The 2nd tech arrived to identify the source of the leak and repair. It was quite obvious where the source of the leak was in the garage, however, was using this time to upsell me for a full house inspection… I declined the full house inspection because again it was obvious where the leak was coming from. This service I had to pay out of pocket. $950 turned to $750 because I agreed to give them a 5 star review.
Now with the leak stopped and an unsightly hole in the ceiling of my garage, I continue to talk with the initial tech to follow Roto-Rooter’s plan of action to “properly” file a claim to my insurance. Roto-Rooter, as a part of their services, plans to file the claim on my behalf which must include their Mitigation Team to immediately start the drying of the area affected by the leak. Prior to agreeing to next steps, I asked in the event of denial the cost owed by me to which he Would not share because “he doesn’t do the Mitigation.” But he knows “Mitigation is necessary and must be done immediately in order to get the claim accepted.” Their repair bill was timed and the clock is ticking… The mitigation team of 2 techs that showed up also unable to share an estimate for tearing significantly more wall than was initially made to repair the single 12” pipe and set up fans making our garage inaccessible for a week.
After being instructed what next steps to expect and items to share to my insurance adjuster I was assured that Roto-Rooter's experience handling claims would be an easy, guaranteed process to receive accepted claim and coverage of costs ALSO needed to repair the sizable hole left by the mitigation team.Well, between the lack of experience of Roto-Rooter techs and disconnect between teams ultimately resulted in a speedy and certain denial for the claim in which no costs will be reimbursed or offered to cover for any service related to the pipe leak.
Being confused to the outcome and looking for some clarification, I was immediately only met with a sizable bill and a relentless Collections Team. I was told that the Manager over the teams that “helped” me would reach out… not one message. When I followed up to ask to speak with this manager for clarification and share the fisad of services I experience, still no message and only pressing for payment. I can without a doubt say I will never use Roto-Rooter for any services again and I would strongly encourage others to look elsewhere. BUYER BEWARE!

Invoice paid in full ($2,950) before service received (Never again). Best job for the job arrived and he tapped danced around completing the job; he'd have to come back.
End story; job incomplete. Called supervisor, (remember invoice paid, which means he was paid). His response, I'll reach out to office to get some input. No return call; silence. Continually contacting, yes supervisor and as of the last, no response. The unfortunate fact is I reiterated to the initial technician the importance of getting this job completed before the opening of this Coin Laundry (yes, lot of water following out of the drain line) and we believed his bells and whistles.

If you are considering hiring RotoRooter in Omaha, Nebraska to clear your stopped up sewer line, please read on and see what kind of problems I ran into by using them. I didn't do enough research on this company nor did I read all of the negative reviews of their work before I contacted them. So here is your chance to avoid hiring them.
On September 30, 2024, my sewer line backed up and flooded an area around the basement floor drain. RotoRooter was called on October 1, and after a couple of hours of snaking the line failed to clear the clog, Mark ** from RotoRooter showed up on site to review my collapsed sewer line. He advised that the sewer service line under 111th Street was broken and that RotoRooter would excavate the city street and repair the sewer line.
A $30,000 contract was written and a couple of days later the RotoRooter construction crew showed up to begin the work. The sewer was out of service for 2 or 3 days and was repaired and put back in service around October 6. The site work was cleaned up and the crew loaded up and left without making any comments on the hole that they left in the city street. I suspected that the city would be out in a couple of days to make repairs to the city street and replace the concrete where RotoRooter had jack hammered.
After a couple of weeks without any work being done, I contacted the city to see when they had the replacement of concrete on their schedule and was advised that RotoRooter had not gotten the permits for the work, and that they were unaware of the hole in the street that they would have to fix. That was about October 15. I contacted Mark ** and advised him of what I had been told by the city and he told me that the city only needed some paperwork from RotoRooter advising the city that RotoRooter had finished their work and that the city could proceed with the concrete repair to the street.
After another 2 weeks, it is now November 7, I contacted Pat **, the RotoRooter Customer satisfaction manager, and was told that he would be in contact with the RotoRooter local branch to get the job moving. Two more weeks went by and still no work, so I contacted Pat **n again on November 20 and a couple of days later RotoRooter sent a couple of guys out with a bobcat and they cleaned out the two feet of mud in the excavation and backfilled it with sand and compacted it.
On November 25, the city of Omaha inspector showed up and checked the compaction and finalized the inspection. I have had barricades, signs and flashing lights in front of my house for the last 2 months. The city's street repair crew showed up on December 3 and poured concrete. The Todco 'Street Repairs Ahead' Warning Signs were taken down and placed in my yard on December 5 and then removed from the site on December 6. So the project is finally completed after 67 days. So if you are planning any sewer work at your place, please consider the problems that have been going on with my job and think about contacting a different contractor than RotoRooter for the work.

On November 21st 2024 I called Roto Rooter of Schaumburg to come out and investigate a foul order. I specifically asked if there would be a charge to come out and the phone rep told me that the diagnostic was free. Within an hour of the call Service Tech Eddie was here, he confirmed the odor and did a walk-thru of our establishment. The smell was coming from a crack in the floor where our sewer line runs past (about 30 feet away from our bathrooms) separated by two walls. Eddie says, "Well your toilets are loose." I acknowledged that and stated that was not where the smell was coming from. He said that it could!!! BUT IT IT'S NOT!!! He stated that he would have to get a camera guy out to investigate.
At that moment I had to take a call from corporate regarding this issue. When I returned Eddie had already removed the loose toilet without my approval. I was stunned and asked him why he removed the toilet, he tried showing me he phone quickly saying he had approval. He was never authorized to remove the toilet. He proceeded to tell me the fee for resetting the toilet $550.00. That's insane.
At this point we have no choice but to have him reset the toilet which was not the problem. It was a clogged sewer line on the other side of the building. Eddie then proceeded to give me a blank invoice with no dollar amount to sign and stated he could not leave without a signature. He also stated that our toilets were not commercial grade and recommended that we replace them. He also said that the camera guy could not come out until the next day to camera the line. The next day comes and the camera guy arrived, he ran the camera through a clean out (not the toilet), finds the clog where the smell was coming from "(about 30 feet away from our bathrooms)", shows me the video and we authorize him to proceed.

He called me back and told me the issue was a broken pipe underground and that he could not fix it. That they had other people that would come and dig up the pipe and fix the issue. He then charged me $490 dollars. I waited until about noon the next day nobody called me. So I called another company. The plumber showed up diagnosed the issue snaked the sewer line and unclogged the toilet and shower. He also fixed the toilet that the Roto Rooter guy left loose. Never using this company again. There where 2 things to be done I asked the technician to install a valve for a new dishwasher washer, and I asked if he could install a handle valve for the main water to the house next to the hot water heater and he said yes. The technician instead changed the order to install the valve to the hot water heater only and without my permission to do so. If the technician notified me of this change I would have said no to it. I knew the valves open and close because I closed it myself only a few months ago for a hot water heater leak. The technicians defense was that he could not turn the valve which was a complete lie. I could turn the valve but it was tight. He states that it wouldn’t move and that was the reason for him to put a valve to the hot water heater.
The cost would have ran me $700 but he gave me $200 off the price and said he would come back and do the thing for a discount but I would have never done the job in the first place if I had known what he was doing. I got a call back after I made a complaint on the company website and all the woman could do was be defensive and tell me what the cost to put the valve in. I reside in Los Angeles, California. Recently, I experienced a clogged shower and contacted Roto-Rooter for assistance in resolving the issue. A technician named Manny (#1752) arrived on November 29, 2024, to address the problem. After I explained the situation to him, he requested to inspect our sewer cleanout and proceeded to explore the property. Ultimately, he accessed the crawl space beneath the house and located the cleanout. Upon opening the cap, he identified the cause of the blockage as a lump of tissue paper lodged at a T-junction. He presented two options for unclogging the drain, one utilizing a less expensive method (the name of which I do not recall, but it was approximately $500) and the other involving hydrogen, which he quoted at around $1,500.
After discussing the options with my wife on-site, we opted for the hydrogen method. However, he indicated that he would first attempt to manually unclog the drain through the cleanout itself. He re-entered the crawl space and was able to dislodge the tissue; unfortunately, this action resulted in a sewage spill on the crawl space floor, which caused a significant odor to permeate our basement, as it is connected to the crawl space. He requested that I retrieve bleach from the house, which he claimed to pour over the "small" amount of sewage, asserting that this would suffice. However, the situation had only just begun.
While he was dusting himself off and explaining how he had saved me a considerable amount of money by entering the crawl space without prior approval from his supervisor, I received a call from a number in Long Beach, California. Unsure of the caller's identity, I was initially reluctant to answer, but Manny suggested it could be their dispatch. Upon answering, I discovered that the caller was indeed from Roto-Rooter, identifying himself as part of the water restoration and sewage cleanup department. He mentioned that he was aware of our plumbing issue and wished to offer assistance. I informed him about the sewage spill caused by Manny; however, Manny, who was present, gestured for me not to disclose that he had entered the crawl space and caused the spill.
I also inadvertently mentioned the application of bleach, which Manny again suggested I should not have revealed. The cleanup representative indicated he would be on his way after completing another job. Subsequently, Manny opened a ticket on his phone, documenting that "the client went under the house to open the cleanout valve and caused a sewage spill, also pouring bleach." He indicated that he completed this report to avoid getting into trouble. Ultimately, I paid a discounted rate of $300 for Manny's services via credit card and also provided him with a $100 cash tip.
Following this, the sewage cleanup technician, Richard, arrived. I guided him to the crawl space, where he proceeded to inspect the area. He continuously inquired about the location of the spill, and I informed him that his colleague had identified it near the cleanout valve/cap. However, he claimed that he could not locate the valve/cap and stated he was unable to venture further into the crawl space but observed some of the spill. Despite my insistence that he was not close to where Manny had been, he maintained that he could not advance any further. Richard took several photographs and emerged from the crawl space, displaying an image that was not clear enough for me to assess the spill accurately. He then asserted that he was not authorized to enter the crawl space, yet based on what he had seen, the remediation cost would estimate to approximately $2,500.
When I questioned why he had come to my residence if he was unable to conduct a proper assessment, and how he could arrive at such a figure without a thorough evaluation, he appeared visibly agitated by my inquiries and reiterated that, based on his experience, such jobs typically cost that amount. He then advised that it might even require more extensive work, necessitating the involvement of their main technician, Fabian, who would provide a final assessment and cost based on his evaluation for the underwriter. Richard indicated he would draft a contract and return to me shortly.
After approximately 30 minutes in his vehicle, he came back, stating he had consulted with his manager and that Fabian could come to my residence on Sunday, December 1, 2024, but only if I signed a contract agreeing to a cost range between $2,500 and $7,500, with their assurance that it would not exceed that amount. I inquired why Fabian could not assess the situation first to provide an accurate cost estimate, allowing me to make an informed decision. Richard insisted that I had to sign the contract before the cleanup technician could enter the property. I firmly declined and requested that he leave. Subsequently, I received a recommendation for a plumber from my local bath and kitchen supply store, who successfully completed the sewage cleanup for a significantly lower cost than what Roto-Rooter had proposed, far less than their estimates. This experience left me with several concerns:
1. Manny, an employee of Roto-Rooter, was responsible for the initial sewage spill; however, he conveyed the impression that he was providing me with a favor, to the extent that I felt compelled to offer him a gratuity of $100, while ultimately shifting the responsibility onto me. 2. The subsequent barrage of solicitations for services was both unsettling and unmistakable, revealing that the sole intent was to offer unnecessary services at exorbitant rates. 3. Adding to my dissatisfaction, I received another communication from the company on November 30, 2024, in which they extended an offer for a complimentary camera service to inspect our pipes, while my wife received a separate call promoting services related to water quality. I will certainly refrain from utilizing this company in the future and wish to ensure that others are informed of their deceptive practices.

TERRIBLE company! They charged us $675 for 1/2 hour service! They never told us a price so we did not expect this incredibly high amount. We had used a few years ago and the price was in the $300-400 range. Did NOT expect this price. Do NOT use!

We called this company to come in and check why we are getting backed up. Told us the jet is the best option to clear out any blockages. We went for it despite the wildly expensive price of $1.6k. The jet did nothing. They also kept making excuses as to why they couldn’t use the camera and claimed they couldn’t see unless they clear the blockage, despite the camera being included in the price. After a few hours of focusing on one pipe, they concluded that the job couldn’t be done, and said we probably need to dig out the pipes, which would cost a whopping $8k. On top of the $1k we just paid for them to fix absolutely NOTHING and break our stair tile taking the machinery back up outside.
We had another local plumber come in to check it out, and they fixed the issue within an hour. Turns out that it wasn’t an issue with the main line, but rather wooden blockage in one line in the BACKYARD. Completely different issue from what this company claimed. And all for less than $1k. I’m absolutely appalled by the audacity of this company. And even more by the supervisor that accompanied the plumber, who suggested we just scrape every dollar we can get just to spend it on an unnecessary pipe dig-out, after telling him we can’t afford it. And for an issue they weren’t even certain of. I will be warning EVERYONE about this awful company.

I wish stars could have negative signs in front of them. I thought I made the right decision contacting Roto Rooter to assist me with my toilets not flushing and sinks holding water, was I wrong and I should have used another company. First off the visit I scheduled was from 4pm-6pm. The tech didn’t show up until after 8pm. I should have turned him away, but me wanting to give the benefit of the doubt due to Thanksgiving being this Thursday I gave him a chance.
The tech appeared to not be well versed in what needed to be done. However he knew how to collect payment before any work was ever done. He then began the work and he’s having a hard time. I asked was he ok. He informed me that I got a free camera inspection since I paid for the service but everybody was off and nobody wanted to come. It was in that moment had he said based on not having anyone available he would have to reschedule me until today. I would have respected that more. Instead of that he proceeds to get the tools out of his van and while he was inside my home in the bathroom he’s very loudly cursing and if he felt uncomfortable he should have said something again. He didn’t.
At 11 o clock nothing had been done. He informed me that the snake was stuck and he would return in the morning, he didn’t tell me he cut my water off from the main valve so my kids and I woke up to no water…. He arrives this morning and this time accompanied by his supervisor and still nothing. They want me to pay 3,000 additional dollars for their technician's negligence. I will not…. He should have waited. I understand my home is older but he could have waited to ensure what I paid for got done.
So I’m still without flushing toilets and standing water in my sink in addition to a plumber snake being stuck under one of my toilets.. This is the worst experience by far, I will never. I am so disgusted with the entire experience. The gm hasn't responded or called me back in regard to the situation and the supervisor is saying his tech isn't wrong. How…and I have an even bigger issue based on what his technician did. 10/10 I do not and will not recommended this company, very inconsiderate, very unprofessional, and I'm going to have to pay for their tech's mess up and my initial issue still isn't resolved and thanksgiving is tomorrow…. And no one seems to. Are this is beyond me.

Had a very slow drain in my laundry room floor drain. Water would come up and very slowly drain back down. But, it still drained. After the tech came, I now have zero drainage. On top of that, the tech removed a clean-out cap, said he couldn't fit it back on, then left after charging me. I essentially just paid for Roto-Rooter to make my situation worse. Something I will be contacting the BBB over. Spoke to the manager of the Detroit branch, and they want to charge me even more to fix a problem that they made worse! Absolutely disgusted with this practice. Stay away from this company. They hire people with no idea what they're doing and makes things worse, then want to charge you to fix their mess up.

They tracked sewer water all through the house. There was a thick grimy dust on every single thing in the downstairs because they failed to contain the blowers. They left a mess on the carpet. They left the dryer vent unattached
I contacted the mgr, Rich and he basically said I could clean up the mess they left. I then reached out to the GM, Scott. At first I thought he would help, but he never apologized instead said they the containment was done correctly and it sometimes comes loose. He said he didn’t look at the photos I sent and told me that the house was already dirty. That’s very unprofessional.
Finally after many ignored calls, emails texts I filed a complaint and the mgr called me. I was told we had to pay the bill and then they could refund for damage. I was told that RR doesn’t have insurance for damage but it would have to come out of the money we paid them. They are not reliable!! Overcharge and ruin homes!! Also want to mention that when the contractor pulled the toilet, there was a plastic object down in the water. Still not sure what that is. I added some pictures but there are too many to put on here.

I own a two family house and unfortunately, I called 'Rectal' Rooter to fix a clogged bathtub. For reference, when you turn the water on in the bathroom sink it overflowed into the bathtub. Plumber came out to 'fix' the draining issue in the second floor. First floor was completely vacate. Once I got renters in their bathroom plumbing wouldn't drain. Can you believe this company wouldn't honor their warranty/guarantee. They unclogged it in the basement... Honestly the first plumber clearly just pushed all the cramp from the second floor to the basement. Oh here's the kicker, they sent out an apprentice the second time around and he punched a hole in my p-trap that they also charged me for... Nice guy but another guy showed up to train him on the job. This was just a horror story that my wallet had to suffer.

My landlady set up an emergency weekend schedule with Roto-Rooter Louisville. I was told someone would be there between 2 and 4 PM. When 4PM came and no tech. she told me to call and see what the deal was. They had no record of it. Then she called and they found the info. She then called the tech who apologized and told her he would be at the house around 6PM. At about 6:10 he shows up only to tell me that his equipment was too big to fit in the area that needed to be snaked. I asked him to call her which he said he would but he did not. After he left I found the cigarette he so kindly tossed down in my drive amongst the dry fall leaves. Thanks for nothing.

1 star is way too generous. Roto Rooter? More like Roto Scammer! Wanted $2500 just to knock down a small piece of wall to “find” the problem. They came 3 times to look for a cause of the problem and found nothing. Got a 2nd opinion and they found the problem right away and the cost to fix it was cheaper than what roto Scammer wanted to “find” the issue. Also tried selling me that I need a new pipe to the city sewer line even though I have a septic tank and no sewer. When asked about the price I was told it could be upwards of $10k. Would not recommend Roto Scammer to anyone. If you must use them please be cautious and ask as many questions as possible.

BEWARE of this company offering "Free Estimate"! On November 20, 2024, I called and asked for an estimate of the leak repair in Lake Mary, Florida. The "technician" Ken **, came for a free estimate. But he gave me the estimate not for a repair, but requested $150 for an estimation of the "diagnosing" the problem, although it was obviously leaking AC handler unit. When I asked him why he came to me instead of telling the diagnosis price on the phone, he became severely rude. It is a straight misleading, if not a scam. BEWARE!

A man, Shawn/Sean ** was a rep who gave advice on contacting my insurance to cover water damages. After I gave this man my policy information, workers were sent to my home to start repairs and I was not informed on what was being done through any of the process. They draped plastic with asbestos warnings and did not inform me of that. Workers came out without any prior knowledge, stating that their company sent them. I never heard from this Sean ** ever again. There were numerous attempts to get an understanding of what was going on, I even contacted the actual company, and they did not give any information only stating that someone would be assigned to complete the mitigation but never disclosing who or when.
It took several weeks for them to get documentation to my insurance company. My insurance company stated that this is a bad business for service and communication.
