Through the apps is the only way I deal with the Protection 1 system and I never used the panel. After the initial setup, I had the water detector installed and the installer then was very friendly. However, it's difficult getting the Alarm.com app set up as there weren't clear instructions, but definitely they have the opportunity to make the app process more clear.

The installation of my Protection 1 device went excellently. All my interactions with their reps were very professional and cordial as well. However, my girlfriend can close her garage through her cellphone device and I don't know how to do that, but I do have a fob key which I set my alarm with all the time.

I had experiences in the past when someone broke into my house and stole a few things from me. I also travel and spend two months outside that's why I decided to get a security system. I used to have another provider. One of their sensors was not working and I called several times. They never came to fix it. So, I was paying for the services but I wasn't having that in an effective manner that's why I switched to Protection 1. I installed the device myself and everything was clear and their directions were pretty self-explanatory. I wasn't afraid of personal safety since having them. I feel like everything's okay this time. Even when my relatives got into the house my nephew forgot his code and right away, the system responded. They were able to assist him and reprogram everything.

I like that Protection 1 is more up-to-date compared to my old system that was 22 years old. I can control my thermostat and arm and disarm my house with the phone. The price was good too. It's been a good experience although I'm not happy with my fob. I called Protection 1 about it and they told me to put a new battery in. It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Other than that, I would recommend Protection 1.

Protection 1 is offered with the HOA on the new home that we bought and we've been using them for a year and a half almost. We had no problems with the installation. We use the mobile controls all the time and it's nice to have that. I've had two false alarms. One was when I accidentally opened the window. Then another one when we're away and we weren't aware because we had cats. Those two times, they’ve called right away. It's been easy to use, reliable, and problem-free.

I was in Kansas City area and I did not have a good experience with Protection 1. When the guy came to install the system, he asked me if I have a step-ladder and certain tools. He didn’t have any so he said he was going to Lowe’s. Lowe’s was right up the street from my house. He left and was gone for hours. Then he came to me and told me my back sensor from another provider was not working and in order for it to work, he had to replace it. I said okay. So he replaced it and stayed an additional time to do the work. When he was ready to leave, he said it was going to be $200. He didn't tell me it was going to be an additional cost. I was frustrated with him and so I asked to talk to someone from Protection 1, and they said they would waive the charge. The problem was escalated to the local management. Someone called me and she apologized, and they fixed all the issues.
When I moved, I found out that I was in contract, which I wasn’t too happy about. I still had to get Protection 1. If I had a choice, I wouldn’t have went with them. It's still giving me some issues. After installation, the next day the fire alarm kept sounding every time I opened the oven. It did it for an hour and a half. I called and I was told I needed to add the protection plan in case something wasn’t installed correctly so someone could come back and service it. The system wasn't installed correctly to begin with. I added the protection plan, but I’m just underwhelmed with Protection 1. There’s a monthly monitoring that they are doing to the system to check that it’s communicating. I continue to have ongoing problems with it that if it would do it, I wouldn’t even call. I just didn’t like calling them. I’m over it.

My son has Protection 1 at their home so I got one too and I've been using it for approximately two years now. Installation was so simple and the installers were very nice. I also had a good time interacting with their reps. They were very polite. I make the mistake sometimes of coming in from the garage and I have to walk through a breezeway into the house. Sometimes when I think I'm turning it off, I'm really just turning it on again and I walk through the doors not realizing that it's still on. By the time I get the house door open, it's beeping and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong until I looked at the printout on email that said that it was engaged at a certain time and engaged again. Of course, I wouldn't engage it twice within two minutes.
So now I am more aware when I'm turning it off. It usually happens when my arms are full of purchases that I'm bringing in the house. I'm standing at the door and inside the garage, and my finger is pushing the buttons. It's my mistake for not realizing what I'm doing but they've been very nice. So far, I'm at the age now where I live alone and I needed to have that extra protection and Protection 1 has worked out very well. It's a great product with good technology, easy to use and good customer service.

A Protection 1 salesman came to our door with. "Great" deal on a security system. It all looked good but one question I asked him was if we didn't like it could we cancel it. The salesman said yes several times. After a half a year my family moved houses and decided we didn't need it anymore. We called to cancel the service and was told we could not cancel and had to pay for another 3 years of service. We explained that the salesman specifically told us we could cancel at any time. We were told he did not give us correct information. In other words, he lied.
We have been trying to resolve this with Protection 1 for over a year. We have not used the system since we moved but they still want us to pay. Now they have put a debt collector on us. The people we dealt with lied to us and gave us horrible customer service. They took no responsibility for their staff member lying to us, and don't even care that we moved and haven't even used the system in over a year. They still want us to pay. They are criminal and I would never recommend them.

I was told Protection would take over and use all existing equipment of Vivint I had when they started monitoring my system. I had all Vivint cameras. One wasn't working they said and gave me the model no. They said when I got one they would install it. They never said they had cameras to buy. I asked if they had cameras and was told "no you have to get one from where you got this one from." The manufacturer was alarm.com. I was given their no. and now I have a working camera and they refuse to install it.
That is lying to get my business, using all of Vivint other equipment, telling me the model not to get wasting my money and never telling me I could get a camera from them nor had to. That is lying and bad customer service. They never should have used Vivint's equipment at all if they can't use Vivint's equipment. All my equipment is Vivint's. They took over and they never offered to sell me one of their cameras. They told me to get the model no. of the one I had which quit working and when I did I was refused by Caitlin to make an appointment to put it in.

Protection 1 is horrible. They haven't been monitoring my house the entire time, yet they've still been collecting money from me per month. I've already voiced this to them multiple times and they know it when I first signed up that I had poor service. They said that there was a Verizon card and an AT&T card that we can try the Wi-Fi if something's wrong with the 3G or 4G. We've done both of them and yet there's still not enough service that they can monitor my system. I get a monthly call from them saying my unit has not responded to them during the routine check, and I've told them that since day one. We've reached out to them and all they said was, "We'll let you know. We're trying to work on it." There's no moving forward. The Houston Protection 1 salesman and Installation Manager are liars. When we asked the salesman if they could configure our DVR to record our security cameras, he said yes. He took pictures of the DVR and supposedly emailed the pictures to his “best camera technician”. With that assurance, we agreed to purchase their security system.
The following Monday, they installed their security system. I waited for a few days and they never sent out a camera technician to configure our DVR. When I called them about it, the installation manager said they won’t work on any cameras that they do not install. After assuring the installation manager we will not hold Protection 1 responsible for any problems that may occur with the cameras after they get them running, he said that he would see what he could do and call me back later in the day. That was 10 days ago and I still have not heard from him. Also, we did not get a Protection 1 yard sign nor any window stickers. I regret doing business with Protection 1 and will make sure that anyone that I know will not do any business with them.

My neighbor works for Protection 1. I talked to him, looked them up, and they were within the top three for a security system, so I went for them. The installation was very good. The tech had the right tools, and I can barely even tell that the wires are in the house. He put it under the molding and in between the carpeting. That's for the little wiring that there is. The only real wiring is the unit for the power. Otherwise, everything is wireless. I use my cellphone once in a while to check the system. I like it, and I feel very good about it. However, I wish it would turn itself on at 11 at night because I forget to turn it on once in a while. I have to make sure the system is on all the time. I like the part where I can have either the whole house or just the outside, meaning doors and windows versus motion sensors in the rooms.
I had a bad sensor, and a few times, the system went off accidentally. Protection 1 called, checked with me, and were nice about it. They just gave me notification. From that point, they were good. When I changed batteries because one of the sensors' battery went, they called too. They're very observant. The only thing I was disappointed with was when I had a defective motion sensor. I called the service for the guy to come over to change it, then I got a bill for $25. I didn't know I was to pay for service calls. It was their equipment, yet I had to pay for it. I saw Protection 1 in a little pamphlet from our electric company. At that time, we were having trouble with people messing around and I was thinking about getting some kind of protection here. I called Protection 1 and talked to them. I’m glad I did ‘cause we’ve been with them for at least a year now. This was the first time we ever had anything like this. They sent a very nice man out here with the equipment and he installed the system for us. He talked with us and explained everything like the pad keys we carry when we go out the door and we set the alarm. He told us that if we ever had any trouble, we can call the company and they’d get in touch with him. Everything’s been working perfectly so far. Since we got this security, we hadn’t really had anything happen. With everyday life, I got rid of my problem where people were messing around. I’m very satisfied and I have been telling my friends about Protection 1.

I've been using Protection 1 for over a year now but I'm not satisfied with them at all. I’ve been having a lot of problems ever since they installed it in my house. For a while I couldn't turn it on through my phone and they kept saying the problem was my phone. Then finally, they came out and installed an antenna and it got a little better. When I left my house one day, I forgot to give my daughter my new code, so when she went over there, my alarm was going off for 10 minutes and my neighbors said they came out because they could hear it, but Protection 1 didn’t get any connection and they didn't call the police. That really made me feel unsecure. If it wasn’t my daughter, somebody could call up my whole house. They said they checked my service two days before that and it was fine but they didn't do anything when it went off. That bothers me. I’m not too pleased so I’m rushing this year to be over. When we originally signed the contract for home security we were in a bit of a pinch and sales person was quick to have our contract signed. Other than a few surprise fees (including a repair fee for 'lifetime guaranteed' parts) we were overall OK with service. Now, having attempted to transfer services to a new home due to a move, we are incredibly disappointed with both the installation fees (originally $0, now $649 with an automatic contract renewal) and the poor customer service.
We were told from the beginning that the company's priority is to make us 'lifetime users', however, our experience has shown us that it is truly to get you locked in to a contract which they can capitalize on during basic life events like moving/upgrading system/etc. If there is even an opportunity that you may be moving in the contract time window - do your homework and find a better option. Also beware that the contract automatically renews if you do not opt out of service when the contract comes up to expiration.

I was on the USAA website where I have all my other insurance and bank accounts through and Protection 1 was one of the two that they offer discounts for. USAA do their homework and Protection 1 sounded legit to me so I've got them. They're my home security provider since July of 2015 which is about the same time I purchased the house. Basically, Protection 1's price was right. I don't really need a security system in the neighborhood that I'm in but I saved more money by having a security system than I would have by not having it. My homeowner's insurance was estimated at $155 a month, but with the security system, it dropped down to $95 a month. So, I'm only paying $41 a month and doing the math, I made out on that transaction.
I grew up in such a bad neighborhood and I knew where we moved into wasn't that bad, but I still went overboard because I'm married. The difference in between neighborhoods never really translated for my wife and I wanted to give her peace of mind. I was trying to get everything accounted for in the house-- windows, glass breaks, fire alarms, carbon monoxide, and everything, but the installer said he'll go over what I should or shouldn't be getting although it was still up to me. He explained it was not really necessary for me to get something when I already have one built into the house. He said that people don't typically go to our attic to break into the house since they'll typically go through one of the bottom windows. He actually dialed back the amount of things I was going to get and it was good to have somebody who was actually worried about my safety and not about making money.
I called them for the installation and they came out immediately. It took them a day to come out and the guy who came out installed everything that day within an hour or so. But what I liked so much about them is they have local offices. I had one of the batteries starting to die and I got an alarm that said, "Your battery is low." So, I called them up and asked how I can change out the battery. Then they said they'll come out and change the battery for me since I'm paying for them to monitor the system and so they're gonna make sure I'm being monitored. They're a good company since they did come out to change the batteries. I shopped with ADT and another local insurance company and ultimately, I ended up going with Protection 1 because I liked their setup, their plan, and the benefits from having them are a lot more.
I've tried both the web and mobile controls. The mobile service on my phone and on the go is good, and same with the web. I can do all the same functionalities I can in the house. The one thing I don't particularly like is the fact that they use Z-Wave technology. The accessories I can get for temperature monitoring and everything else I wanna add to the system has to be Z-Wave compatible. They obviously didn't create the technology and it's so hard to find not just good products but popular products that are feature-rich with the Z-Wave technology built in when I go out shopping at the store. And even if I do find it, it isn't feature-rich like maybe getting a Nest thermostat.
I've adapted to the system and we adopted a different routine and on how we operate the system. We leave, we set it, come home, we unset it. When we're in for the night, we set it to "stay". With my last security system, I didn't have as many features as far as I got either "home" or "away" with Protection 1. I can even set and change the entry delays. It's so customizable. Again, I live in a neighborhood that really doesn't require much protection but it does offer us that peace of mind in case something was to happen and that there will be somebody on the way to help us out.

But I’ve had a lot of issues with one of the technicians that came out a few times. He was rude and condescending. I’ve talked to the management and requested him not to come out to the house anymore. He was rude to me, my mother, and to my workers that I have in the house. I've had multiple issues with them coming too early, not within the allotted time, and not calling 30 minutes before. I sat around the house for two plus hours waiting for them to arrive. It was really frustrating.
I've had problems with the trip charge. When I called the 1-800 number, they said that it's $25, and then I get my bill and it was $125 that they charged me for each trip. And you have to pay for everything. So it’s just been frustration and a lot of money. And it's overrated for what I’m paying. I’ve just had a horrible experience. When my house was being built, the motion detector that was installed there was non-functioning, and he pointed that out. Then, he was able to provide us one that actually worked. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He pointed out that we would have extra complimentary services with Protection 1 because we are veterans with the company.
We use the mobile controls all the time, and I absolutely love it. Protection 1 comes on my speaker and they ask me if everything is okay. If I gave them a wrong password, they would automatically call the police. I'm paying for something that I'm actually getting. In fact, I just came back from being out of town and I was able to access the alarm system and make sure my house was armed while we were gone. When I was with the other company, my alarm was constantly going off and then they would call me and ask if I wanted them to call the police. I actually had my house burglarized one time and had $60,000 worth of damage. It was very frustrating. Unfortunately, that company has merged with Protection 1, but I'm hoping that I'll still have that good coverage.
When I was looking for an alarm system company, I wanted to have the cellular system so if the landline ever got cut, I would still have that. I have the speaker voice protection and the capability of arming my system and monitor with my cell phone. I also have a smart doorbell so I can actually see who's there. My whole house is wired. Everything is wrapped around my Protection 1 alarm system and it's awesome. I have more power myself, so it's very nice. I feel like my house is a safer place. Even when I'm out of town, I know if anybody is coming or going out of my house, and I know what door they're coming in and out of. I would definitely recommend them.

A pretty good selling point for me was the alarm goes off and takes pictures through the motion sensors. We are being secured knowing that if someone breaks into the house, it’s covered. I’ve set it off a couple of times and Protection 1 was quick to respond, so everything’s been good.

I got Protection 1 when I used to live in Houston, and have the same company here because I never had any problems. They're supposed to be updated and better and I've had nothing but problems. When I first got the system, I indicated to their rep that I didn't have enough money to purchase the outside monitor. I asked if I could get this later on for the same price, and he said yes. Then when I did do it, they told me that I would have to pay full price. I should have canceled back in June or July when I wouldn't be penalized.
The other reason is my alarm kept on going off. We had several phone calls where we're out of the house and our alarm goes off and Protection 1 could never figure it out. They said we had to reboot, and we rebooted about three times. I have a problem with the mobile controls too, and they also tell me to reboot. They tell me to unplug and plug in again. I've had several problems with them, whereas before, I had another company where I never had any problems with ever.

I never had alarm because I used to rent apartments. When we moved into this place, Protection 1 was installed. The only thing is that most of the times that I tried to adjust it, there's no adjustment on it sensitivity-wise unless I can do it with a computer. I have to keep it offline because otherwise, my cats trip it. I used to do home theaters and security systems back in the day, so I know how the old school sensors used to be where I could adjust internally to adjust sensitivity. With this one, I opened it up and there's nothing in it. I don't know if that's user-adjustable or not or they have to send a tech over here to do it with a technician.
The Protection 1 system is also very glitchy. The cellphone controls always drop out, so that doesn't work really well. I always have problems activating and deactivating. It would be nice when approaching the house to unlock it and lock it, but I can't do it because it always disconnects and I have to reset the application. The Wi-Fi is not reliable. Overall it's a simple system that's easy to use so that's a good thing. I don't have to be a sophisticated computer user.

It was an easy way to start with them. I had to install the device myself since everything’s wireless, and it wasn’t hard at all. I moved three months ago, so I had to move everything and I had to install the new sensors, and I called the people at Protection 1 a couple of times. The alarm had never gone off, and I haven’t had a chance to see the waiting time for them to call me, but so far, every time I called them, they’re right there for me, which was a good thing. I like that with Protection 1 I have a fixed price. I definitely like the fact that they were upfront about keeping the price the same. The company I had before, ADT, increased the price without letting us know and that really bothered me. The security was great w/ Protection 1 too. It's better than ADT. It's wireless, so if the telephone lines go down, it doesn’t affect it.
The guys who came to install our security device were very professional and quick. They came when they said they would come and did everything. It was great. I had one person come out because a sensor was not working properly. He came and did what he's supposed to do and left. Since having our Protection 1 system, I don’t have to worry about my house's security. I use Protection 1's web and mobile controls which is wonderful. It's nice and easy, especially if my kids are coming home I can unlock the house or disarm it before they get home, or if someone I know needs to come in.

There have been a couple of times when the alarms went off while I was at work because one of the sensors fell off. They called me and I talked to them. They were just super nice, knowledgeable and very helpful.
The sensors keep falling off the walls, doors or windows. I had to call them out one time to fix them. Since I don't have long-term protection, they charge me $85 every time they come out to put it back on and that's a problem. Other than that and the sensors that keep falling off, the system works good. I live alone and having Protection 1 extremely settles my mind to know that it's on at night when I go to bed. I looked online for a company that had the kind of service I was looking for and found out about Protection 1. So far, they've been a whole lot better compared to my previous provider. They called me when an alarm went off last month. They did a good job as they called me right away. It's a second home for me and so I was not there at that time. I was 1800 miles away. First, I got a text message from them and I tried to call the person that has my key but I couldn’t reach them. So when they called, they said, “Do you want us to call this person?” And I said, “No. I've already tried.” “Do you want us to go ahead and call the police?” And I told him, “Yes,” and they did that right away.
I'm only there a few times during the year for short periods of time. So it's nice to know that I have that coverage and that they’ll notify me right away if something happens since I'm not in the area. It puts my mind at ease about things. When you're that far away, you can't get there to see what's going on. You have to rely on something else to let you know.

However, I did a lot of homework on security alarms lately, and found out upon checking around that there are a lot of companies out there that come with a whole lot of sensors in their regular package. The only problem I have with Protection 1 is that it costs way too much money to get another sensor to put on a couple more windows or somewhere else.
I needed more sensors for the area to be safe and I wanted to have sensors put on all the windows, so I called Protection 1 and they told me that it would cost me about $45 to $60 for each additional sensor, and then I have to pay a hundred and some dollars to get them put in. It was so expensive that I couldn't do it. When I heard that, it made no sense to me. I'm a client already and they're going to charge me to get a little plastic sensor. It covers the glass door sensor, smoke sensor, 2 key fob, 2 touchless screen panel and motion sense for less than $50/mos. Being in the military they said whenever we move they will reinstall all the equipment and don't need to bring the old equipment from the previous. And all 2 year contract. Sounds great, right. But no. They LIE!! Small note 5 yr contract and if you keep moving it's another new contract and all the stuff you got on your first house won't be the same because the relocation package they have is different. You will have to pay extra for the other equipment. They give you hope at the beginning to get you under their contract. After that you're like a fish on a hook. Whenever I have a problem and I call, I get the response immediately.
At the restaurant, we've been using them for more than 15 years. The system is very good because when we renewed our contract, I didn't know that one of the codes was emergency so I gave it to one of the employees. And immediately, as soon as she entered the code, the whole alarm went off and the police came. At home, it's my second year with them and the technicians were very nice when they installed the system. At the very beginning, I was unaware that the alarm was set, so I opened the door and went to the backyard. And they gave me a call instantly. So I think that I'm in good hands and I feel much safer having them in my house. When I take shifts, I don't worry about anything, especially because of that little banner thing that they gave me. I wish, though, that the battery power would last longer on the camera. Moreover, at times the website aspect of the system and the app seem to not sync up and to get out of whack with the thermostat programming, so every now and then I have to redo the thermostat setup. I have small grandchildren living here who are always opening the side door, so I have to do a 50-yard dash down the front to turn it off. But it gives us an extra layer of protection since we're not gun people and my son-in-law has guns and knives. It gives us a sense of security when we're sleeping.

I used Mountainwest before and Frontpoint is much better than them. Frontpoint's a great service but they need to do better at installation. We had to have a technician install the device and he sold me equipment that I didn't need. Then he couldn't install everything that we were supposed to get so they had to send another installation person out later. It took about two or three months to get everything up and running. It was pretty bad, but we worked through it. We love the interactive features of the system. It's awesome. It's also more convenient because we can remotely give people access to our house, so we don't always have to be there when things need to happen at the house.

I have Protection 1 for a little over a year. Installing the device went very smoothly. There was a system already wired and the installers were able to take advantage of all of that and it was very helpful cost-wise. They didn't have to go through all the walls. I was then shown how to use everything and set up my smartphone. The Protection 1 representatives have been very helpful. I had a problem wherein one of the sensors didn't work, and they told me how to bypass it until someone could get out and fix it. They were also out another time when I had a problem with the "master box." I asked if it was something that I could fix and they said no. A man came out and climbed up on the ladder and fixed it.
The system is very helpful and I feel safer because I travel some and live by myself. I used to have a watchdog but before he passed away, I knew that for security purposes, I would need to have something here. It's just helpful to have a little extra protection and makes me feel better. I do have to call Protection 1 one time because I have a low battery in one of my motion sensors and I don't know how to get up there and fix it. But aside from that, I'm really pleased with the system. It works great. People have asked me about it and I told them I recommend it.

We were also told a few other things that we never received. We've had issue after issue with them. And of course when they talk to the salesman he says he didn't say that. Well FYI Protection 1 your salesman is going to say that wasn't promised. He don't want to lose his job. For us the issue had to do with that salesman because we did not get what we were promised nor what we thought we were paying for.

The only issue was that he was a little rushed at the end and we couldn’t do the programming for the web and mobile controls that I would have liked to have had done prior to him leaving especially that I'm an older person and not tech savvy. About a year and a half ago, there were break-ins in the area, and the people here had cameras installed and they're recording everything. So then I decided to get involved in a protection program and that's why I turned to Protection 1. I was looking on the internet for home security providers and called around, and Protection 1 gave me the best price for the features that I wanted, and what they had to offer was what I was looking for. Before having their security system, I just had my hand gun.
It was good installing our service device. The rep asked me where exactly I wanted to locate the device and where the sensor would be more effective. I get snap images with the web and mobile controls. These let you know when there's movement in the house and take photo images that I'm able to upload and see on my phone. I like being able to access and control our security system at any time from anywhere because I can check when the kids are inside and when they're outside, if my doors are open, or when the AC's on.
Since setting up our Protection 1 system, I've had fewer worries and I'm able to control situations a lot easier in my house as far as using it on the kids and for monitoring around the house. I work nights so it's easier day-to-day for me. Overall, it was a safe, secured, and honest experience I've had with Protection 1. Moreover, I got everything that they told me I was going to get. There were no hidden fees. I actually recommended them to a couple of friends already.

I originally had ADT and I wanted them to put monitors in all my windows but they only allowed me two doors and two windows. They also wanted to charge me an extra $48 for every window and I have 13 windows in my house so I said "No." Then I asked a neighbor who had Protection 1 and he said they had good service. So I looked online, got the number of Protection 1 and called them. I told them what I needed and they said they could do it so I went with them. I ended up paying less of an installation fee than I did with ADT and got all my windows and doors monitored plus the motion detectors for the same price that ADT was charging me per month. Also, I had fallen so I got their necklace system too.
The device was a self-install so they sent me the box and it was very easy to do. They sent me all the equipment, a list of instructions and I had my son come over to help me with it. A half an hour to forty-five minutes, every window and door was secured, and the system was on and working. I also have the mobile app. If I leave the house and forget to turn it on, I pull it up on my phone and secure my house from it. I like that because I have two young girls that I'm a guardian of and sometimes the older one stays home and if I forget I can also do the peek in thing and alert me on my phone if the door's open. And someone will call me if any of the doors is open so I'm happy to be able to do it by my phone.
I've also had good experience with their reps. A couple of months ago, one of the sensors fell off and got lost so I've had to call and order another sensor. I've talked to them and they were always very helpful. Then I had problems resetting my password and they helped me in setting my password online. So far I've liked everything that they've been able to supply us with, but the motion sensor is more or less a snapshot and not a video. I'm pretty sure it would cost more to have a video type sensor but that's the only thing I would like to have better. I'm really happy with Protection 1, they're excellent and I have recommended them.

We thought that they were a decent choice based on their user ratings online and also our neighbors who had it didn't have a problem with them. When we ordered the device, it did not come with enough of the right equipment and then they installed them incorrectly. I had to ask somebody else to come in.
It has malfunctioned multiple times, including when it randomly set off the fire alarm and woke everybody up in the middle of the night. I've also had the security turned on to me a few times because the wiring was incorrect and it would set up for away mode, instead of stay mode, for no reason. Then the door security stopped working once and wouldn't let me turn it on. Each time, they send somebody out and fix it. But I find it a better service to prevent these problems rather than to fix the problems. The service and the technology was good, it just that the execution of it is bad. We were with another company but in two years our cost had gone up. We called them and asked if they would be able to bring it down. But, they were unwilling to do so. And it was right around the same time that a gentleman from Protection 1 came by. We also needed to change our provider because some of the sensors needed to be re-put up and redone since we had to replace all of our windows - we went from a slider to a crank out. Our previous provider was going to charge us a huge amount to go and do that, and Protection 1 said, "If you want to want to sign up with for service, we can throw in this extra." They gave us a little camera, so it was nice.
However, the gentleman that installed the system did something wrong and he was a little freaked out. He said it'll be fine and left. I had to call back and get another person to come and reprogram it and we were having alarms. They call us every once in a while like if someone forgets to turn off the alarm and left the dog out in the morning. The last time it went off we had come back from being gone for the weekend and the rep said, "This is Protection 1." But it's extremely loud and she kept saying it over and over but she couldn't hear me and I was yelling back at her and something wasn't quite right. I've been trying to disarm and finally I cancelled and then I called if there was a way to check this system if it's still working because clearly she couldn't hear me through the phone and I was shouting into it and they told me, "We couldn't do it." They'd have to send a service call and I would get a fee. I was annoyed by that.
Other than that, my husband manages our account from the computer and we have capabilities on our phone to control it. It's really convenient because sometimes he forgets to set the alarm. I work night shifts, so part of the system is for us to make sure kids stay in the house. I always worry of a little kid sleepwalking type of situation. There was a lot of the hardwire already done.
The two times that we’ve been away that we attempted to arm the system, we were too stupid to do it correctly and came back and the house was not armed. But there’s a local technician who is very helpful with phone calls and emails, and he got me properly educated on how to use the system correctly now. We switched over to Protection 1 in March from another security company. We've had nothing but problems ever since. The camera they installed keeps going in/out, and when we came home one night the entire system was down. The control panel was on battery backup and wasn't recognizing the door being opened or closed. I contacted protection one the following day using their online chat service. They said they could send a tech out and there would be a $25 service fee to come out and it would include parts and labor under the warranty. So the tech came out a couple days later and replaced a battery in the control panel, transformer and the battery back up. At no time did the tech ever say this was covered or not covered under the warranty or how much it would be.
After the tech replaced the items and was on his way out, I had to stop him because the panel still wasn't beeping when the doors or windows were opened. He said the window switches and the circuit board they connect to were defective and needs to be replaced. He didn't have the parts on his truck, so he said he would call the office and have them call me and schedule another service appointment. So the following week, the same tech came back out and replaced the door/window switches and the circuit board. Everything was finally working right. Once again, the tech didn't say anything about the warranty or how much anything was going to cost. I just assumed everything was covered under the $25 service charge that I was initially told.
Everything was good until about two weeks later when I received an email saying we owed over 2,500!! After numerous calls and emails to different people at the call center to see why we owed that much or why it wasn't covered under the warranty, everyone kept saying we needed to talk to the local branch manager. They said he would call us and see what can be done, but he never called. We kept calling the phone numbers we had and every time it was someone different and had to explain our situation over every time. This all went on for over two weeks. Finally we got a call from the manager. He said nothing was covered and that there was nothing he could do and that he had a business to run and couldn't be giving away free services. He didn't even care that we weren't told about how much stuff was going to cost or whether it was covered by warranty or not.
When I did the online chat to set up the appointment, I had a transcript of the conversation emailed to myself. I forward it to the manager and told him this is what I was told, but that doesn't seem to matter to anyone. Now we're trying to get out of our contract or something. I don't even want to be a customer if this is how they treat their customers by lying about repair cost and not having any respect for what we were told.

I installed it and it was easy. The longest part was at the end of installation where we had to call up the tech and go through all the different contacts and names.
The Protection 1 people were good but the thing I worry about if the system goes off is the response time. If they don't respond right, there's something wrong with the system or the customer service. His system has gone off a couple of times and everyone has been responding on time so it's good. I have their interactive features but my father-in-law doesn't because they're not computer tech people. It's a determinant to figure out if something is wrong. USAA is our home insurer and they recommended Protection 1 as an alternative. We got the system and have it for over a year now. The web and mobile control features are awesome. I use it all the time and it's convenient and a powerful feature. They're also trying to improve the interface a little bit. We had a weird malfunction after being in for about five months. I called Protection 1 and told them what I saw in the board. We reset it and it worked fine.
The biggest thing for Protection 1 is the quality of the interaction with the personnel at every level. The install technician who came out was very professional and came with the right equipment. He was on time, installed the box, took out some ADT equipment and added some equipment, but did it really well. He was also very careful with the household. Additionally, every time I've called, even at goofy hours on a Sunday morning, the people have been extremely nice. I've called a couple times with billing questions and the reps were totally able to explain it to me. I'm not on hold for 20 minutes nor getting bounced around from person to person and they speak English. Whatever the business model has been this past year, it has been very good. I recommend Protection 1 to everyone who asks.

We had Protection 1 for years. We had them originally back in 1990s and have gone with them since then. We went with ADT for sometime but we went back to Protection 1 because ADT continuously increased their prices. We had a little problem with Protection 1 at first when the device was installed though. They put a motion detector down too low and it caused some extra activity that wasn't really needed to be regarded. But they came out and readjusted the things, and we haven't had any problems since then. Protection 1 is a good fit for our situation.

It was easy to install our Protection 1 security system. Additionally, with the mobile app, it's easy to access and control our system anywhere at any time.

I've used other home security providers before and Protection 1's price is lesser plus, they gave us another motion sensor. In addition, the installation of their system is easy.
