I've been a Protection 1 user for about a year now. I like that their equipment was wireless and that their price was good. Their system was easy to install and easy to use too. In fact, I installed it myself. Their mobile app was very easy and convenient. Their reps were very helpful when I called them one time. I feel safer since we've installed this system.

We had Guardian security before as our home security provider and I like Protection 1 better. The people who did the installation did a good job. Also, I love it that I can control the system remotely which is one of the reasons why I got them. With the security system in place, I now feel safer.

My parents have Protection 1 and they said they never had any problems with it and that they like their service so I got them too. They were already activated and we just needed to install them the right way. I use their mobile control and I love it. I feel more secure now that we have Protection 1. However, I noticed I have to change the battery on the the motion sensors. I haven't done it yet so it's been out for two months already.

Since we got Protection 1, I sleep better and feel safer at night. We're far more happy with them than our previous home security provider. The guy who came to install the system was pretty good and was able to do it efficiently. However, we had an issue recently where the camera went offline and we weren't sure why. They sent a technician out for that and it didn't work out so well, but we called back in a couple of days later and they sent out a different technician. He got it done in 15 to 20 minutes and it was a much more positive interaction. So we were really happy with the second guy that came out. Also, we use the mobile controls all the time and we love it. My husband primarily was using the remote from his phone. We don't even use the control panel except if I'm getting up really early, I'll go down and turn off our control panel.

The first home security provider I had for years was Brinks, then Brinks was sold out to ADT. I had ADT for some years, but I was unhappy with their services. The alarm would go off, they never called back. Then I tried the other alarm company that AT&T owns now, but their stuff didn't work too good. So I went with Protection 1.
I definitely feel a lot safer now and have no worries. I work 24-hour shifts in my job, and I'd be gone all night long and my wife is out here. So having a security system gives me peace of mind. Moreover, they respond quickly. If the alarm goes off, I get notified over my phone and often they call right away. I've been out of work and they worked with me on that, too, as far as my billing. Everything worked good for me, so I'm very satisfied with the service. They're the best service I've ever had and the best customer service I got.

I installed the Protection 1 device easily and it's awesome to use their mobile and web controls. I want to upgrade to the feature of being able to connect it to the lights, air conditioner, and garage and the prices we have are okay now, but the thing is when I add the additional features, it gets pricey. However, I definitely feel that it's a good service. Also, once when the alarm went off, the Protection 1 people were able to communicate with my children. They were able to go through some verification process with the kids to a certain extent and I believe they made a good decision in not sending out the police.

My parents have had Protection 1 since I can remember in all of our houses. When me and my husband purchased our first house a year ago I went with the company that my parents have been with forever. They did the initial installation. When we recently got new windows and doors in our home, I called them and the rep advised me if I do installation by myself, it would be free. She’ll just tell me how to do it as far as switching up from the old windows and doors to the new ones. She can send someone to do it, but I chose the less expensive option and it was simple.
Everything is going good with them. I called their team a few times, when the battery was out or when our old sensor was going off, just testing it. Having access to the system anytime anywhere is so convenient and easy. If we’re out and I forgot to set the alarm, it’s just a push of a button on my phone. I don’t have to go all the way back in the house. I’m very happy we got Protection 1. They've been professional and efficient.

I used ADT and RedLine before, and I like Protection 1 better with one exception. I had an issue a couple of months ago when we had a contractor working at the house and the fire alarm kept going off because of the dust. I work in Mississippi but I live in Pensacola which is 100 miles to the east. The alarm kept going off and I got five calls from my wife, and in one of the calls, I could hear the fire trucks in the background. Anyway, the guys from Protection 1 worked with us pretty well.
Somebody in New Orleans talked my wife through the process of disarming that part of it temporarily which eventually fixed it, but getting up to that point was not that easy. There were two things that bothered me. One is when we were talking with the customer service people, they said that they can’t get to us until the next day to disarm it. The alarm was continuously going off even after the contractor has left. They also said they were busy, but if we will pay them $198, they’ll move us to the head of the line. That didn’t sit right with me.
The second thing was while my wife was talking to the tech guy in New Orleans, I ended up on the phone with a lady in New Orleans who wouldn’t let me get a word in edgewise. I got frustrated and she had me really hot, and then she hung up on me. That one really got me. I run a sales and marketing group for a major US shipbuilder, and we don’t hang up on people. The customer can be wrong, but he’s still a customer. With that, when our contract is up in a couple of years, I’m going to do something different unless something drastically changes. Other than that, Protection 1 is doing great and I'm satisfied with them.

Protection 1 is very good. They did a good job with installation and were very professional. The mobile control is a very important aspect of the system. I wouldn't get a service without mobile access to be able to look at the cameras and check the status live. I have two homes so I can't be at both at the same time so it's important to me when I have an alarm tripped that I look in why and see what's going on. However, I tend to get a lot of false alarms and it has got to do with when the power drops out. I've gotten a bill from the police because they've gotten called out a few times and now I get $50 bills for too many false alarms. That is my only complaint. But when I've called in to have devices put in and for troubleshooting questions, their reps have always been quick to answer and get back to me.

My uncle sold the Protection 1 system to us and it covers the overall house. Their mobile app is great. The other day, my four-year-old pushed the back door and went out to the backyard. We were at Walmart and we got a phone call, an email, and a text saying that our back door alarm is going off. They went ahead and called the cops since we weren’t at home. And when we got back, the cops were here and everybody had dealt with it great. The response time was quick and I’m very satisfied. I also love the fact that Protection 1 alerts us through an intercom system when we have tornado warnings.
I wish the cameras that are installed in the house could be mobile. It would be phenomenal if it could take multiple shots instead of just one angle shot. They can make it rotate a little bit because we have it best to fit it to where it would hit our back and front doors. It could take a clear picture of those when the alarm goes off. But we feel absolutely safe with the Protection 1 system in our house.

I’m alone in my house and I travel a lot so I got Protection 1. It was referred to me by a girlfriend who has it too. I got it last year before I went on vacation. I told the guy who sold me the home security that I have a tri-level house and all the openings and windows should be protected. He was very accommodating, but the installer who came was not. I had some problems with him as he was in a hurry and tried to do a shortcut on the job. The job was not yet finished but he was letting me sign papers for the cost of his installation. Also, I have a three-car garage, two doors, one door from the family room to the garage and from the garage to outside. I asked him if they needed to be protected and if they included them. He told me that they didn't do those kinds of jobs and that I have to get some other company to do it for me. He was rude so I reported him to the company.
The installer was the one who determined where the box should be too. I wanted it to be hidden a little bit but he insisted where the best place for it should be which is in the living room. I didn't want guests or people coming in to be looking at the box. I would have cancelled the whole thing but he already installed the box. There was a hole in the place so I went ahead and had him do it. I had billing problems with them as well. The monthly billing is automatically deducted from my checking account or debit, and they did not give me the monthly summary of the bills, so I called them. And so they started doing the summary.
But, all the outlets that I wanted the security, they put it in. My main purpose was for my security when I'm alone inside the house and security of the property when I’m gone. So when I called their office they told me that within eight minutes, if the ring goes on, the system will send a message to their central office and the police department can respond to my place. I’m really very happy with what it is. If I set it on before I go to bed or when I leave the house, it responds to what I do with the buttons.

My ADT system was at least 15 years old and I changed some batteries in the sensors myself. I called ADT and told them that I was a customer enrolled in auto pay so they were guaranteed a payment every month, the system was old and I wanted it revised with some sensors, and they said they didn't want to do it. They'd given systems away for free so I said, "as a valued customer, you come over and replace all that and then we'll continue on," and they didn't want to do it.
Protection 1 replaced everything and I'm very happy with the system. Everything's updated, and I like the panel and all its functions. It's very easy to use. An installer came to set up the system, and he was very friendly, courteous, and showed me everything. The installation went smoothly and I'm very satisfied with it. I'm confident that when I go out, my Protection 1 system is doing all that it can to protect my home. In terms of call response, both ADT and Protection 1 are good but I like Protection 1 better. It's very good doing business with them.

We have used Protection 1 for a year now. Their system is nothing out of the ordinary. It's as good as any other products and there are so many other DIY devices that are a lot cheaper. They came in to install but they used the old sensors for the windows. All the sensors are somewhat old and they added new ones in some additional areas and then they just changed the panel. Their reps were knowledgeable. However, I've encountered a rep wherein I had to tell her what to do and another one who wasn't so friendly but overall, it's okay.

The system is awful and I want to get out of my contract with Protection 1. I've been shopping around and definitely I'm going to change it because I don't like the system at all. Basically, it goes back to when the tech was installing the system and having a hard time getting the signal to go over to the call center. I have unintentionally set my alarm off about three times and it takes about ten minutes for Protection 1 to call me back. Twice out of the 12 months I called to pay my bills, the person that I talked to said, "We're not reading your signal." So they helped me set the alarm off for 45 seconds and then turned it off and both times, they didn't get the signal right away. The last person I spoke with said that if I had the system connected to my cell phone, then that would do it. But it doesn't make sense because if it was connected or not, it's not the reason why the system isn't getting a signal.

Protection 1 has been my home security service provider for almost a year now. I feel safer and it's easier to work, and I don’t have to go through a lot of rigmarole with the web. The actual alarm itself is a good and state-of-the-art service, but the customer service is crappy. When I have a problem and call them for something, they don’t call back. I'd call back twice, sometimes three times. Right now, I'm having a problem with my billing and I'm getting overcharged for some things that I shouldn’t be charged for. And they're not keeping appointments. They need to call me and try to work something out with me because I'm getting to the point now where I'm thinking that when my contract’s up, I'm going back to ADT.

We consistently received very poor customer service with this company and so as soon as we thought our contract was up, we cancelled and hired another company. We kept receiving monthly bills and with several calls to billing, we were informed that we had misread our contract and owed hundreds of dollars. We asked for a final bill, but continued to receive monthly bills. We were told by their billing department not to pay those, but then we continued to receive monthly bills plus late fees. Finally they sent us a bill clearly marked "Final Bill", but still received monthly bills.
We were finally told we still owed hundreds of dollars and that we had signed another, later contract than the initial one. We have no copy or recollection of any such later contract and requested a copy. We still haven't received that. We finally paid hundreds of dollars over the phone to billing to close everything out, and now we have received yet another bill for hundreds of dollars. Billing just told us not to pay it and that we have a credit on our account. This company is very dysfunctional and unethical. We warn you away from ever signing any contract with Protection 1.

Our fire alarm installed by Protection 1 had gone off. There was no smoke in the house, the stove and oven were off, there was nothing to my knowledge to set it off. The wall alarm installed by Protection 1 had gone off almost immediately after, due to the fire alarm going off. The company called and kept telling us to hit the disarm button on the wall alarm and put in the password. We did. It would stop for a few seconds, then go off again, even though it read it was disarmed. The fire alarm continued to go off, the disarm did nothing to prevent that. They repeatedly told us to do it again and again and again, with obviously, the same results each time.
I had called from another phone to speak with someone else. She told me the same thing the other dispatcher was telling us to do, and of course, it did not work. I was told if I wanted a technician to come out, it would cost $190 per half hour since it was a weekend. I asked to speak with a manager. I was put on the phone with "R". "R" knew as much as the dispatcher. She told me to do the disarm again and again and again. She then told me no one could come out unless I paid the $190 for the "emergency service". She told me to unscrew the backup battery thing from the outlet. I did eventually get that out of the wall.
She told me to unscrew the wall alarm, but she did not know if it had a screw or not. A technician would need to come out to see that if I did not do it myself, but I would still have to pay $190. I asked her if this happens to other people, and she said YES it does. This is not a one time thing. I was never able to unscrew the wall alarm, I could not find a screwdriver small enough for the screw they had put in. I accidentally hung up on "R", but I was clearly getting no help anyways.
The wall alarm had shut down after about half an hour. I don't know if the battery finally ran out without the backup in the outlet or what, but it stopped. The fire alarm kept going off, however. It is on the ceiling, where I cannot reach. There was a button to silence it, which I could reach by holding a broom up to it, but I had to keep doing that every few minutes, or it would go off again.
I called back, asking to speak with a different supervisor other than "R". One was found, I did not catch her name. She was not rude, but she still did not give me options other than "get a ladder" or "pay the fee" for the technician to come out. I told her I did not want to stand in the middle of the hallway holding a broom to the ceiling to quiet the alarm all weekend (it was SATURDAY) until someone could come out on Monday, and I was not going to pay $190/half hour for something that is the fault of the company and something that they should be handling. I asked if they had any type of plan in place for this thing, and she said no other than charging their customers for "emergency services" on the weekends.
The company refused to help me without charging me, and they refused to cancel our service as it was a weekend. This happens to other people, I am not the first person this has happened to, yet they have no plan in place for this thing other than charging their customers to have a technician come out on the weekend for what they call an "emergency". This is the biggest problem so far. I have had problems in the past, such as the sensors falling off of doors and windows, causing the alarm to go off until the system was disabled, which we were charged for them to come and put them back up as well, even though they used a weak adhesive to put them on in the first place.

They worked to resolve the issues, however, every time I set my alarm, I have to bypass the living room motion detector because it doesn't work and I don't know why. I've been with Protection 1 for about four years and I've gotten other people signed up with it but lately, I'm not too thrilled. I've been getting some pretty awesome offers for new setup on the house where all of my windows would have sensors. I'd have a keypad on the front door and it would have cost the same as what I purchased last year on my new home when we installed all their new products. With them, I only have two window sensors and two door sensors for the 150.
Whereas with AT&T, their service offered all my windows to be sensored, the motion sensor, and the electronic keypad on my front door, which is a new convenience. That would've all been included for the same price, but I'm still locked in for three years. I'm feeling pretty shorted on it all. However, I appreciate that they're quick when the alarm does go off.

They made additional holes in my ceiling. When we moved in the first house, I noticed a little box on the wall which looked like an alarm system so we got it because Pontiac has a lot of Michigan sex offenders and crime. I said, "We spend a lot of money on foolish stuff we don’t need and this is to protect our lives, so I’ll pay for it." The bill is under my daughter's name. We both take care of it that's why I know the password.
I like everything about Protection 1. We have them as our security provider for almost two years now and they’re all very nice. Installing the device was understandable and fast, and they’re very professional. I feel safer, especially for my grandchildren and my daughter. Some people have told me that there are cheaper ones than Protection 1, but I’m in a contract right now. When my contract is over, if I can get an alarm system cheaper somewhere else, then I’m going to take it like anybody else. I like any kind of home security for anyone. Everyone should have it because this world is deteriorating little by little and if people can’t open their eyes that so many people are lost, then they don’t want to be a victim.

We have two properties: one in Florida and another one in Illinois. We used to have ADT for our Illinois property, however, the price was going to skyrocket for the property in Illinois if we are to upgrade and have the wireless so we can get cell notifications. So we compared prices and decided to switch to Protection 1 and have been with them for about a year and a half now.
We had an issue trying to connect the system with our computers but the Protection 1 team was very courteous. It's absolutely great to be able to access and control our system using the web controls which was one thing that sold us to switch and we definitely feel safer since having it installed especially when we are away from one or the other property. It was too high so I went to Protection 1 when my contract with them ran out. I've been using Protection 1 as my home security provider since April of last year. There were no problems installing and running the security device. I can tell when there's a door open or monitor to see if the little dampers on the patio door are open. If we have a cook out, I don’t want that thing running and I know how to access it. With it, I know I'm safe and people can get in and out. I have a couple of neighbors who are set to be able to come in if there's an issue. I alarm it when I go to bed. It's pretty easy.
I'm here by myself most of the time and in case I have problems or have a medical emergency, I have the necklace that I can buzz and they’ll get me help into the house. We changed our basement back door and the monitor alarm that was on it got lost, so I had to get a new one put on. Their team came right out the next day or two and put it on for me. We bought a house in Tampa, Florida and it had an alarm system, but the company is on Jacksonville. I talked with them on the phone and they had nobody in Tampa. It would be too far away if I needed service. I also wanted to upgrade the current system to a graphical display. I talked to one company which was on the east coast and they were hours away. I didn’t like that idea, so I looked around. I talked to my brother-in-law who had a similar situation and he said he talked to Protection 1. They came out and upgraded his system, leaving the existing sensors in place and basically expanded upon that. So I did the same thing.
They installed the graphical keypads instead of having to touch buttons with a little, one-line display. They added some infrared sensors and motion detectors for me, which are all wireless. I work in the computer industry, so I like the mobile or the wireless technology as long as the batteries last, which they tend to for two years at least. I would rather have a wireless system installed than wired. What I wanted at that point was a hybrid system because I already had a wired system. A lot of the windows and doors had magnets and sensors on them and I didn’t see a reason to replace all that. So Protection 1 enhanced the system to exactly what I wanted.
There have been a couple of issues but ended up being resolved. One was the location of a motion detector, which was getting reflections from the front glass door and getting false detections. We had Protection 1 also do a similar setup of our alarm system in our other house in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania. The only reason I went ahead with Protection 1 down there too was because I got an immediate response from them at any time that I called them in Florida. Any minor issues that had come up were taken care of quickly. I don’t have to worry about the house I’m not at.
I’m very happy with Protection 1 at this point. If I have a repair guy coming out to the house, he contacts me before he gets here. The two times that I’ve had a repair guy come out, he’s had the part with him, was aware of what was wrong and was knowledgeable about the system. The only one negative thing is sometimes when I call in and talk to somebody on the phone, I don’t get somebody who’s very knowledgeable about how the alarm systems are working. But I imagine that I have to go one level at least before I get somebody who has more detailed information about the system. It might be the way things work. Other than this, I would recommend Protection 1.

They offered me that price as a special deal but they tried to increase it because I don't want to sign a new contract and told them I'll stay with them on a month-to-month basis instead. I was disappointed at that point that I told the guy from the previous provider to shut off the system and send me my last bill.
With Protection 1, I control my alarm via the mobile app. It's good since I can activate the alarm from my room and I don't have to go all the way to the kitchen. I can also control who is going to my house and know how many times my door was opened. I'm able to keep an eye on what time I and my kids left and came home. Protection 1 keeps sending me texts and email all the time.
I'm having trouble recently with them, though. I put my alarm code but for some reason, the system does not read it and they send the police a couple of times to my house. The last time the police was here, they gave me a warning that they're going to write me a ticket if it happens one more time. Somebody also broke in through my window but the glass detector didn't pick up the noise on the glass. I've been freaking out ever since the break-in.
I called the guy at Protection 1 and he showed up the other day. He was talking and texting to somebody the whole time. I asked him the cost of additional sensors in my house. I never received any answer even though the guy said somebody will call me back. Protection 1 billed me $25 even though the guy didn't do anything. Later on, we decided to call Protection 1 and ask them what price they will charge me to do the whole thing. I didn't agree with the price however so I just let it stay like that. Every time the above issues happened and Protection 1 sends somebody to my house, they want me to pay some fee. I don't agree with that because the problems have nothing to do with me. I've dealt with Protection 1 for a long time and I have their system in my personal home. They're good for the alarms. But I never realized how screwed up it had been through all the different iterations when the last technician came out and it's because they're lazy. They're trying to save a nickel with a wire and they're splicing everything in there. They sent out a tech who doesn’t know how to troubleshoot an existing system. When we rewired completely and put each sensor on its own unique port, spending all day, he forgot to inform us that all of our past security codes didn’t work so the alarm was ringing. He had to reprogram the code, which was in a video that took a couple of hours to fix over the phone. When the alarm went off, he also forgot to hook up the outside horn, so we made another service call. We've had fines from the city that now we have to get reimbursed from Protection 1 for the false alarms.
Their process for installing sensors assumes that the sensors will never break. We've had the sensors for 10 years and once we started having a problem and they're all in parallel, there's no way for them to decipher which one is which. They put all the motions on one little power supply, and that power supply was being dragged down and overloaded. We had 12 sensors, but we only had six ports, and there was no documentation on which sensors were hooked up to which port and none of the sensors were labeled as to which port they're on.
When I asked the guy if he had notes on how everything is installed, there's nothing. He keeps a scratch paper that’s folded up in the alarm box and that’s their documentation. The west, north, east and south sensors were all on the same circuit so all the information they get from feedback was totally bogus and useless that’s why he can't troubleshoot. It becomes very easy if every sensor is running some port. So we bought an extended board and put each sensor on its own dedicated port.
I do wiring for a living and this tells me they're amateurs. They don’t take their job seriously and were not professionals. Their instruction on how they're training on how to do it doesn’t exist. There were no installation standards as having one technician to document something so the guy that comes in next would not be on the same page. They don’t have the discipline in the process to document as they go along. I also print labels so we can label everything and I believe it's never been taught. One other thing is that they put all the motions on one little power supply, so that power supply was being dragged down and overloaded. This is just anybody that does any kind of wiring for a living would do, and they don’t know how to do it because they’ve never been around an industry that requires it to be done correctly.
I don’t blame fairly the individual installer, but the trainings from Protection 1. They're not thrilled and they don’t follow up. It would have been better off installing it myself. I suggest that they hire somebody to make an installation app that says port 1 is these four motion sensors in parallel or if they're individual sensors, they'll find individual.

I did some research and saw the different security organizations available. Also, since I belong to USAA, they had some links that provided information for ADT and Protection 1 with price quotes in it. So I called them to confirm prices and capabilities and eventually ended up with Protection 1. I have been using it for roughly a year now since last April. The installation was mostly very easy. The only problem that we had was for the AC in one of the thermostat. I have two ACs and one thermostat was replaced very quickly and very easily. The other one was a little bit more complicated, and we ended up not putting in a thermostat. It got some other feature that helps communicate with the blower, and it got some other things that weren't compatible.
I've also used their arming and disarming feature and it's very convenient. I used it and monitored my system when I've been on vacation. My wife felt safer and a lot more comfortable having the system on when she's alone because I'm on the road quite a bit. The one thing that I've been especially pleased with is the responsiveness of the service. There have been a couple of times where we accidentally had opened the door and the agent came on very quickly and asked us if there was any issue and asked for our response code. It felt like it was within seconds of the alarm going off. So overall, I've been very pleased with the service and its capabilities.

I was traveling, my wife had to come home from work, fire department arrived, etc. We asked to have someone come to the house to disarm the system (the alarm kept going off) until the contractor was done. I was told it would be the next day unless I agreed to a $200 fee to move me to the head of the line. I talked to a woman in New Orleans who was apparently not trained in customer service and she gave me all the reasons why she couldn't help me without me getting to talk without interruption. She finally hung up on me. I've talked to at least three people since then. Told them I am not happy and won't renew, and NOT ONE person has asked why I was dissatisfied. Other than that I had been satisfied but I think that my experience is indicative of something else.

Protection 1 was referred to me by USAA and I trust what they recommend. It has now been a year since then. However, their equipment is a crap. I'm not impressed with it. They were responsive in the beginning, but not so now since we are now a paying locked-in three-year customer. They were out here monthly for the first six months to fix it. And on top of it, I paid a lot of money for that equipment and it's still not functioning. I finally quit calling them about coming over and fixing it. So to that end, I will not renew the contract once the contract is up. At this point, the pieces that need to be functioning are functioning, but it was a nightmare trying to deal with it.
If a company is asking for a three-year contract, they're basically asking for premium time. A security company should have an equipment that works without fail. If they realize that there's a product issue, they should do their due diligence to find a different company with better equipment and replace what their customers already bought. If there’s some changing that they'll do at this point, that will make me renew my contract. However, I can't see that happening. I only pay the balance so the contract’s been full, which I feel I got sold something that they didn’t deliver on. Bottom line, the customer was not the focus of this company.

I’ve had Protection 1 for seven months on the two houses in California. I switched one of the services to the house here and I had to sign up for a two-year deal with them. The billing was very confusing but everything turned out as expected. Installing the units was fine. Then Protection 1 called when the installer was going to come out and verified. It was a nice experience. Now we can automatically turn on the alarm if we go to any place. We live in a retirement community and it’s really quiet. We’re up in Northern Arizona, in a subdivision that’s nice to be at, but we got the device because its best feature is the fire alarm. Everything was helpful and good, and when I’ve called their customer service, they’re really helpful if I have to shut off the alarm because I’m working on the house here.

I've used the online controls and I also have alarm.com, where I control my device from there. Since the security device has been set up, I definitely feel more secure. I like the fact that they buzz in if somebody sets the alarms. I’ve had a couple of alarms go off accidentally and as soon as it goes off, the team will come through. Protection 1 is wonderful and awesome. I saw someone’s sign at their house and I figured that I would try them for myself. Everyone that came to the house was nothing but smiles. I've never seen people that were so happy and glad to help you. It was an experience I never had before. Anytime I called them, they're very speedy. If I have anything wrong with the system, they're out immediately. They either get to you that day if someone is already in the area or they come in that next day. Most places that I have had, it takes a week or so.
If I make a mistake and the alarm goes off, I can’t get to the phone fast enough before someone has called. So, I am so thrilled with their service. I feel so safe. I know if something happens, they’re on it. Also, I'm getting ready to use the web and mobile controls as soon as I get situated to have cameras by them because that protects my house as I'm at work. This way, I can have it on my phone if someone comes to the house or if I see anyone entering the house.

Our house was broken into one day. We were robbed of two thousand bucks worth of random stuff so we looked up some protection services. It was a friend of a friend who knew a guy from Protection 1 who originally set up our account and installed everything for us. When the actual technicians come out, they were always helpful and were good in where they placed everything and in communicating with us. But the last time, they put my front door sensor into this 70-year black arched front door we have, which I wasn’t too happy about. I didn't know if there was any other option in the matter to begin with. We've had Protection 1 for over two years. I like and use the phone app all the time. The convenience of being able to monitor and control the system from my phone anywhere definitely makes it more useful. It's almost a dealmaker for me.
One thing is that we moved into a much safer neighborhood since we originally had the system. We needed it significantly more in our old neighborhood. There were a few times when the system went off. It could have been the dog or the window got blown by the wind. It made us feel a few times that we were paying for a whole lot of nothing because the police wouldn't respond. We would tell them to dispatch. Hours later, we would get home and they were never there. The service is expensive and with the way accounts are set, I have to buy all of the equipment from them. I had very little, if any, credit at all when I moved to transfer the whole thing. I had to buy all new stuff, and I couldn’t get out of my contract as an option. I couldn’t bring all my old equipment with me. It's either I didn't move or I had to give Protection 1 several hundred dollars. That whole experience was very frustrating.
We still have the system and we're still on our contract. As far as the equipment and customer service, it's definitely a positive experience. I've always had a good experience with the technicians. Also, in our new house, we're on the upstairs and our two kids sleep on the main floor. The security system certainly makes me feel safer with them down there. But Protection 1 is failing on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to the response of the actual police force, the sheer cost and the lack of flexibility in holding an account.

The police are responsive, but Protection 1 web and mobile controls usually don't matter in most situation because it gets triggered when I leave home and even if we turn it off, it's usually too late. So, I'd get a call from Protection 1 saying that someone has broken in and the police are being sent and I've had to look at home a few times to meet them. Tech was very knowledgeable about the technology - he explained the console, internal motherboards inside the console, RJ32 connector purpose and also showed me how to get into the menu and dig into the depths of the set-up menus. Tech communicated with call center during set-up and diagnosed a wrong passcode given by the call center and caught and corrected the error made by their call center.
Tech gave me a tip for the future how to tighten the loose casing on the console by affixing a screw on the side plate so as to stop the tamper alarm which sometimes activated due to the age of the console. He didn’t do that. He wrote it out himself and now when it goes "beep, beep, beep", I go to the same keypad to see what zone it is and it doesn’t even tell me where it’s on. I also told him that I wanted that when that door opens for there to be a steady beep going on, but that’s not happening down there. And then I also asked him to have somebody call me because I wanted a keypad put downstairs so my husband and I could see what was going on where the beep was coming from, and nothing yet.
The installation was pretty easy. I just sat here waiting for the installer to get done. The first guy was very nice, and then the guy that sold me the system over here evidently quit. He gave his cell number in case I needed him, which was really cool, but then he said that he no longer worked for Protection 1 and he was trying to get me to go to his place. All the system does is chime now when the doors open and it doesn’t tell me where it's coming from. I feel like I'm paying for a service that I'm not able to utilize. Customer service said they’ll have somebody come out and check it out, but there are other things going on in my life that’s more of a priority than this.
