I bought a Maytag PAV-1 Series Clothes Washer (oversized capacity plus washer) in May, 2003. Yesterday, March 16, 2009,it leaked out of the bottom during a cycle and put the full load of water all over my basement floor. All hose connections on the outside are tight. It does not leak on the pump out cycle. If you turn the dial just past the rinse cycle to the pump out cycle, the water in the tub will be pumped out and not go on the floor. I have had five other washers over the last 40 years and none of them have ever done this. They wore out eventually, but they did not break down and completely leak a tub of water!

I like many others out there purchased a Maytag Neptune Front loader washer and also the Neputne Dryer. I can relate to SOOO many of you who wrote about the smelly, mildew oder that the washer puts out inside the machine itself and that wonderful mildew smell that it leaves on your clothes. Not to mention what it makes my laundry room smell like. Air fresheners cant even cover the smell. I, like many of you have tried every laundry detergent and fabric softeners out on the market trying to eliminate the terrible smell. NOTHING has worked. My husband and I just purchased a water system for our house hoping that it would cure the problem with the smelly washer. IT HASN'T!. I bought my washer and dryer late Dec.2005 and actually had it delivered and installed the first week in Jan.2006. The registration card for the washer and dryer went out that same week. I was NEVER notified about any Class Action Law Suit, nor was I ever notified about ANY recall on the washer or dryer units. The way I found out about the GFCI recall was by a service man who recently came to my house to service another recall issue on my Maytag refrigerator. I asked him if he knew about any recall on any other Maytag appliances. Come to find out there had been on the Neptunes. A couple of weeks ago after another load of CLEAN SMELLY laundry. I opened the door to the washer and found a slimy brown residue all along the front door. I often have to clean/dry out the inside rubber lining. I was SHOCKED to see so many people out there with (My Problem) and very disappointed to read about the results that every one is getting from Maytag. Somethng needs to be done by Maytag in the result to this mildew issue resulting within their machines. It is not very sanitary to be washing our clothes in such unclean bacteria filled machine. I will be contacting Maytag with (MY) mildew issue and I will let you all know what, if any results I get back from Maytag.

Purchased maytag neptune tl 8/29/04 model #FAV6800AWQ serial #11262827EP Had service call on 8/29/07 from A&E Factory Srv. Service man didn't have answers for me. He told me to use he detergent to stop the smell but that didn't work. Water sits in the machine & starts to smell terribly. If not used for a few days, when I do a load of laundry, the clothes come out smelling. With some loads as its in the washing cycle, the machine stops & the code JC comes up & won't finish. Its always at (11) eleven minutes left. I have to move the clothes around to make it work again. I'll do the same type of load & it'll work fine. The service man came to my house & hooked up this computer to my machine & called someone. I was told it was the transmission. We started to write up the repair & then received a phone call & went outside. When returning, he then told me it was the clutch. The transmission was covered under warranty but the clutch wasn't. He wasn't sure at that point what to tell me. My husband came home & he got real nervous. We asked him to leave. I call Maytag & told them what had happened. The machine also moves all over on the floor at times when spinning. I called Maytag again 3/10/09 & they offered to cover 100% parts but no labor or service charge. Then they offered me 15% back of what I paid as long as I bought another maytag or whirlpool. I have 30 days to decide.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer in 2005. For the first 18 months it worked without any failure. Then I started to experience a funny smell. My clothes had an unclean smell, sort of like mold. I changed detergent several times, but it didn't make a difference. I had a repair person from Sears look into it and he recommended buying a water filter system. $900 dollars later, no significant change. I then called another local appliance repair shop and learned the belt and motor needed to be replaced and mold was evident in the bottom of the tub. Another $286 dollars in repairs. The smell did go away for 14 months. In October 2008, I needed to have the belt and motor replaced again, another $326 for the repairs. I purchased this machine due to a Consumer Reports rating and for the excellent history of Maytag. I have thought many times about replacing my machine, but the dryer works perfectly and they are a matching pair. My husband says I'm a fool and should replace the washer, but I'm anal on the design...

Well low and behold, the washer is a piece of crap. It makes my clothes stink. It absolutely deforms the clothes. The machine vibrates and moves all over the place on its own. I have had every problem meintioned in all the articles complaining about this washer. I called Maytag on a rust issue becuase the top cover in the machine is already rusting. They said they had never had this problem reported. I checked on line and withing 15 minutes pulled up a ton of hits on this problem. Maytag offered me a 15% discount on a new Maytag washer. My answer to that was and what will I do when 2 years later the new Maytag washer starts rusting agian, call to get another 15% discount on another crappy Maytag washer. Anyway just another dissatisfied Maytag appliance owner. I will never buy another Maytag or Whirlpool appliance.

After 3 repairs to the same Maytag Washing Machine, Maytag is refusing to fix it again for the 4th time under the extended warrantee. They claim they can just send me a check for 1/4 of the cost to buy a new washing machine, as a buyout. I feel the product is a lemon and that they should either fix it or replace it, like the extended warrantee says. I called Brandi at first and got absolutely no where, so the usual thing to do is call her supervisor which is Robert, I called him 5 times within the span of two weeks and he never even had the courtesy to return my call. I just want the machine fixed; I still have a year and a half on my extended warrantee. They never tell you that if the product stinks after 3 or 4 times fixing it, tough luck the warrantee that you purchase will be bought back or the service it should provide will end.
Thank you for any help you can provide. It's funny how if nothing goes wrong they never send you a refund! Jim

Called and after several calls they came out and fixe the thing, saying ti was the transmission. Well another 15 mo has transpired and it is doing it again.UGH>............what part of Maytag is this machine. JUNK JUNK that is the sound it makes now when it spins out .....I asked the first time to give my money back so I could buy a new machine. Oh Maytag said oh we will give you a coupon to give your a percentage off. I paid over 600 dollars for a machine that I was going to get a few dollars off and just toss out the 600 dollar machine. and then again the new machine would only have a year warrranty. The Atlantis does have 5 year on transmissions and other warranties that the new machines DON'T have ...why are we the consumers being shafted right and left. I used to own a maytag washer and dryer and I did have problems with the mildew and other stuff but this time I just bought the dryer and hoped it was different with the washer. I barely used the top part of it, since we bought it, maybe less than 10 times. November of 2007, was at work and my mom and my 2 yr old daughter were at home and when this smoke from the laundry room started. Thank God my mother didnt open the door, instead she picked up my baby and head outside the house. She called my husband at work and at that time about 30 mins away. A neighbor called 911 and me at work. I hurried home and found out after that our maytag dryer started all of these. The funny thing was it all started from the middle part/area of the machine where all the functions located. Burned all the clothes that were in the dryer and the whole top/steamer were burned.

I bought a nice Maytag Nepyune set in January 2006. The washer is great no problems at all with it, but the dryer 3 years later 6 repair guys and my extended warranty runs out in a year, so i got a year to fit in how many more repairs? I had the dryer two weeks and they had to come replace the drive pulley. Ran great for about six months and then the blower fan stopped turning. They said there was something caught in it. yah and how did that get there? it was zip ties from ther factory that were never removed. Ok 7 months later repair guys are in my house again the motors done for. Ok were back up and running.. about 5 months after that the electrical circuit board goes out. Three months later they are back to replace the bearings. Ok i've about had it i have 5 kids a baby on the way and my dryer is a piece of junk. Ok last week it was running great and than the horriable clunking starts and than the dryer stops. My husband hoping it is something simple takes the top off the dryer ok looks like the belt came off. Oh goodie something we can fix, but oh no it's a piece of crap Maytag he goes to put the belt back on and finds one of the rear rollers laying on the floor of the dryer. On closer inspection we discover a crack in the drum. Ok repair guys here replaces rollers has to order new drum. I have a dryer for a week until they get the drum and get it back over here. I'm afraid to turn it on this crack is going to eat something i just know it. The repair guy assures me it wont he placed some kind of tape or something over it so it won't eat my clothes. I have a pile of laundry a mile high and i look like i swallowed a barrel you really think i'm going to catch up before my baby comes? I call the company and how nice of them they offer me a 4 year extension on my warranty for another 125 bucks. Gee are they trying to tell me i need it? Hopefully noe but going to get it anyway.. basically after the drum is replaced i'll technically have a new dryer theres nothing else left to replace, oh but it's a Maytag guess we can start over from the beginning. I will never ever buy another Whirlpool/Maytag appliance again. Held true to that when we got a new frig in December i loved the Whirlpool so much nice features but went with something else instead.

After loving my Maytag Washer and dryer and using the set got 22 years,in Dec 2003 I purchased a new set of Maytag Washer & Dryer, washer model LAT3600AAE as the bearings on my old washer were gone.
In Jan 2004, my new washer tore a hole out of a new shirt; the agitator was replaced on warranty service. In July 2006, my 2 1/2 yr old washer tore some sheets and clothing; the agitator was again replaced at a cost of $200; Maytag agreed to and did reimburse me the cost of the part, about $56. Earlier this month, Feb 2009, my washer AGAIn tore some clothing and bed linens. I called Whirlpool Executive Offices to complain about this defectively designed or defectively produced product and to request a new washer at Whirlpool's expense. Maytag investigated my complaint and the Monday after my Friday phone call advised that they had never heard of this problem before. (However, the website, appliancejunk.comreports on Maytag washer damage from the agitator fins getting older and cracking and eventually breaking. I kept the 2d agitator which damaged my items in July 2006 when it was replaced.) Maytag offered once again to pay for the agitator part, but I refused to subject my clothing and bed, bath, and table linens to the vagaries of this product. At long last Maytag agreed to reimburse me 20% of the cost of a new machine. I purchased a new machine and had so much trouble with the Sears installers that I called Sears headquarters to get that issue resolved.

My laundry no longer smells clean. Two of my daughters, individually, noticed this, also. My husband made comments on the smell. He and I work out in the yard a lot. The stains and dirt do not wash out, as they used to, before I bought this washer. Even when pretreated and soak and stain cycle are used, the clothes do not come clean and odor free. Towels have to be rinsed 4 times. In January of 2009 the washer started to sound like a jet plane, while in use. The catch on the dryer door jams and will not close, unless I place it in a certain position. The clothes are not dry when the cycles are complete. I have to put it on a timed dry instead of the auto cycles to get them dry. Enough is enough! I called where I bought them. Out of thier control. I called the company. I was told I should have bought the extended warranty. Why would I pay $2000.00 for them, if they were not going to last over a year and not work right? The rep did not answer. She basically told me, sorry about you luck. She said I could pay for all labor and service call. When I threatened to run a full page ad in the local newspaper about these defective machines, she said this one time only, they would send someone out to repair them. I have to get my 16 mo.old, top of the line washer and dryer repaired? Amazing!!!!! The bearings are going out on the washer. In order to repair it, they had to replace the entire tub. It was sent out broken, by maytag manufacturers. The repair service had to order another. A new part for the dryer door was sent too. I am waiting for the new tub to get here, so they can finish the repairs. First one took a week. The laundry is piling up. I am stuck with these lemons. The maytag rep said they would only repair them once. I am very dissatisfied with performance, dependability, and quality of the set. Maytag Bravos Washer is a complete piece of junk ... period. It takes forever to do a small load of laundry and the clothes do not get clean. There is very little water added to the washer for each load and the clothes don't ever get submerged in water. How can you possibly wash clothes without getting them wet. This is the craziest piece of junk that has ever been invented. You can't select your wash load size, because the machine will not let you ... it decides what size load you have and it then is supposed to add the amount of water needed to wash the clothes ... it then adds about a cup full of water and proceeds to twist your clothes in knots and tears up your delicate items. Once again ... this is the craziest piece of Junk ever invented. Maytag should be ashamed to put there name on this junk ... It should be removed from the stores. I did call A & E who just left with the following diagnosis. The tub bearing is bad. I paid them $69.00 to tell me what I suspected. Then I was quoted almost $400.00 to repair this. Naturally I declined. The unit was purchased at Home Depot in May of 2007. We chose Maytag because of it's reputation and spent over $1000.00 expecting years of dependable service. Boy did I make a mistake. The serviceman could not assure us the new bearing would last any longer than this one. I thought most reputable manufacturers of washers would warranty the bearing for more than a year, most do...This unit does not. This will be my last Maytag product. Thinking a lot more initial cost would pay for itself ended up with a scrap washing machine that is just over 1 1/2 years old. I should have researched the warranty more, but again I made the purchase of the brand I believed to be superior.

We own the stackable maytag washer/dryer and the maytage neptune washer model MAH7500. Both developed mold and mildew despite the affresh tabs and endless hours of trying to scrub the mold off the rubber portion and washing with bleach. Our whole family is allergic to mold and now our clothes (especially the towels) have the smell even if I am standing right there to change over the laundry to the dryer. This is something I never had to do with our 12 year old washer in our previous home which was NOT a Maytage and was a top loader. Our builder picked out these models and we never heard about the class action lawsuit. I can not believe the amount of money spent and now they are a health hazard. With this economy it is difficult to replace which is the only option since the other option would be to pay for a repair man to replace the gasket only to have the mold occur again. Maytag has ruined their reputation and needs to take responsibility. They need to offer all with this defect their top loader model with installation.

I have a Maytag Neptune Washer. It is a front loading machine that I purchased in 2001 but left in storage in its box for several years finally installing the machine in the winter of 2007, It is model mah5500bww serial 73905814zq. About 2 months ago I started noticing black mold on the door gasket and a moldy type smell when I would open the door. There was a class action lawsuit that ended in 2004 or 2005. I was not part of that class action as my machine was in storage and did not even know about the suit. My model number was included in the lawsuit. I contacted Maytag several days ago regarding my machine and they gave me instructions for cleaning the mold and removing the musty smell from the machine. They also informed me that I must use HE laundry detergent only in the machine and to leave the door open when not in use. I only use HE laundry detergent in the machine anyway and leaving the door on leaves the machine on thus using more electricity. They also said I could have the door gasket replaced at my own expense since it was an old machine. Replacing the door gasket makes no sense as the mold will appear on that gasket in a matter of months as well.

I am certain that I have a mold problem, possibly a belt problem or even problems with the compresssor unit. I am very disappointed with the short life of this washer and feel that it will now be costly to repair. I have had whirlpool in the past and my last washer lasted me 18 years. I purchased Maytag because of the reputation that it had put out to the public and now I regret doing so. It also sounds like there is not much support from Maytag repair either. Purchased a pair of Neptune Maytags; a washer and a dryer from Ralph's Maytag near my home in 2004. The problem is with the washer; it has mold and mildew build-up that doesn't go away. This was a problem that generated a Class Action lawsuit in 2005. Maytag notified owners of the problem and offered to replace the units with the newest generation model or pay up to $1000 to have it fixed. They sent notices based on the Registration Cards. We sent our registrations within days of installation. We were never notified of any Class Action; we have not moved nor have we changed our mailing address. When we finally were disgusted with the mold problem from or $1000 washer, we went on the Maytag website - and that's how we learned of the widespread problem and Class Action. We called Maytag who is essentially telling us we are out of luck as the case is now closed. They have offered to give us some bleach to clean the mold, but we hardly think that is appropriate given the design flaw of this expensive machine. Any help would be appreciated.

Now the bearings are going out and it will be more cost effective to replace than repair considering the bearings alone cannot be replaced but the entire back of the appliance must be removed and replaced. We also had him look at our dishwasher (also a Maytag) which leaks due to a bad seal but this will be an easier fix. Of course, this dishwasher was installed just about a year ago to replace the previous one that leaked horribly but I don't recall why. All of these appliances are approximately 8-9 years old as we purchased them new when we built our home that was completed in 2000. "While my less than four yearold Neptune washer Model No. MAH5500BWW Serial No. B2802810ER does a very good job of washing my clothes, the water that accumulates inside the rubber seal is a breeding ground for slimy mold. No matter how many times I have attempted to clean it out every load that I remove from the washer has bits of slimy mold on it. In addition, the mold smell in the washer is quite strong inspite of my using Affresh and leaving the washer door open as often as possible. I now find that the only way to assure there is no mold in the washer is to replace the otherwise undamaged seal at a cost of $150$175. Had I known this was a chronic issue with front loaders I would have purchased a top loader model instead. It is remiss of Maytag not to design a drain or pump system so that the consumer does not have to be responsible for sponging up puddles, scraping mold and replacing parts because of manufacturing defects on a costly appliance. Since it appears I have no recourse but to replace this expensive rubber seal, I would ask Maytag to please consider reimbusing me for this expense." Maytag's 5/22/08 response is, in part, as follows: "We do understand and appreciate your feelings concerning the problems you encountered and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I'm still covered under GE-Zurich till 3/2009. In March, I had the LCD panel replaced; then in Aug. 2008, I needed a pump. I believe they said they came with a pump. It would not work so I had to wait 3 more weeks, in total 7 weeks. They fixed it with an LCD panel. Then in Oct. 2008, it went; it was the clutch or pump -I'm not sure. They came within two weeks and the part was no good. 3 weeks later, they came and fixed it. As of 1/1/2009, it went again. This is just in one year's time what I've experienced. I say at least 2 times a year or more, since 2004, I've gone without a washing machine for anywhere from 2 weeks to 7 weeks. I now decided to buy a new one on 1/2/2009. I once wrote Better Business and I was told where they're fixing the product, by law there is not much they can do and it had to have 3 failures of the same part within the year's time. So, I didn't have much of a choice.

I have a Maytag Legacy top load washer. It was purchased new from Home Depot on 11/19/2004. It has been to the repair shop 1 time already. It took almost 3 weeks for it to be repaired, waiting on parts, that problem was fixed. Now, it vibrates so bad on the spin cycle that I do small loads only. I have read this seems to be a problem common to these machines. It will not spin the water or soap out of the clothes.

I live in a mobile home. The washer shakes so bad that it has loosen all the screws on the ceiling lights. After one of the globes fell out in the middle of the night, I have check all of them at least once a week. When the washer was in the repair shop, I had to drive about 16 miles to do laundry. To get this machine out of this house is a pain. With this machine not spinning the water out, my drying time is longer, using more power. Sometimes an extra rinse is needed, too.

What I would like to know is why Maytag has no solution to this problem. I had a Whirlpool washer for over 14 years. I needed a larger machine so I bought this so-called name brand. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I ran to the laundry and discovered the washer had danced away from the wall and was sitting in the center of the laundry room. This washer sits on a pedestal. When I entered the laundry, the machine started a spin cycle again and it was literally dancing off the floor. I hit the stop button immediately. I noticed plastic parts all over the floor.
When the machine stopped spinning and the door opened, the whole inside of the door was busted, the rubber boot was disconnected from the drum, the plastic around the drum was broken and there was a cable laying inside the washer. This was a major catastrophic event. I immediately contacted Maytag to get someone out. I certainly don't see how they are going to repair this machine. This isn't the first problem I've had with this machine. Last year (2007), the computer needed to be replaced. This is for information only regarding Maytag Neptune/ All front loading laundry. Most manufactures of High Efficiency front load laundry can have mld/mildew issues. That is because the washer does not fill with water so the seal does not get cleaned very well. Now there is a product called Affresh tablets to help clean your washer/seal. It will help prevent mold/mildew from starting. Using bleach with whites also can be a factor to prevent mold from starting. Some appliance manufactures are even injecting the seals with an anti-microbial foam to prevent mold/mildew from starting. Keep in mind that Maytag is not the only manufacture to have this issue. They did have a bad product design with their Neptune series but their products now are much better.

About a year and a half ago we purchased a Maytag Neptune front loading washer and matching dryer through Aarons (a local rent to own store). We started having problems with the machine making strange noises when it was in the spin cycle within just a few months. While we were under the rental contract we had two repair men out (at no cost to us) that said the machine was so new that they did not know for sure how to repair it. The second repair man was at least smart enough to look at the manual that came with the machine and told us that he needed to replace an interior part within the motor. We were told the machines were new, that the store just got them in. The store was new to our area and with the repair men not even being familiar with them; we believed this statement to be true. So we thought it was a bit odd that a part in the motor needed to be replaced so early. It took weeks for the part to come in and we had a loner machine for that time. They finally replaced the part in the motor but after a few loads the noise returned. We immediately called the manager at Aarons and this time because of warranty issues they needed to call a Maytag service man out. He showed up while I was at work and spoke with my son at home and said that he could not tell there was anything wrong with the machine so my son knew to call me immediately. I explained that when we first got the machine it was so quiet that we had to really listen closely to tell if it was in the middle of a cycle. Even the spin cycle was quiet. Now you can hear it all through the house. He said that is normal after some usage and that since he didn't find an issue his job there was done. If we had to call him out again we would probably be charged a service call. I immediately called Aarons and demanded a replacement machine; which they did give me-same model. Now this machine not only has a slight smell of mildew but we have to manually drain it by putting the drain hose into a PVC pipe that we put on the floor and out the back door. It will also get stuck durring a cycle. For instance last night the digital counter was stuck on 8 for 10 minutes. I have tried everything it says in the maunual. We are extremely upset and frustrated with this machine.

Black mold and excess water in the washer have plagued us for some time. Recently, the washer stopped working. The repair person came today and told us that the control board needed to be replaced, but that Maytag must have had a problem with the one for this washer so they now have an upgraded replacement. The only problem is that the present motor is not compatible with the upgraded control board and would also have to be replaced for a cost of approximately $560 in addition to the $75 we had to pay for the house call.
When asked about the thick, black, smelly mold, the repair man said to check the manual. He never mentioned the common complaint with the Neptune washers and mold or the retention of excess water in the washer drum. I would assume that a Maytag repair person would be aware of these complaints as well as the class action suit.

It is only common sense that a washing machine cannot (save and unless it has a specially designed automatic exotic self-drying feature) and does not dry itself out to avoid mold and mildew development, One should never close a washer door after using it for up to a days time!! (24 hours at least). I find it ludicrous that foolish consumers are abusing their appliances by closing them up soaking wet and then claiming it is a fault in design or that the (thus abused) product itself is now ruining there clothes!!
I have a new front load Samsung washer which like all other former washers I have owned is properly used and has never nor will it ever have a mold or mildew problem because I know how to use it!

We bought a maytag Neptune washer and dryer in end of 2006 and it doesnt work properly. At first in 2007 it wouldn't start and then it would stop spinning. Then we called the repairman and I was told that I have to pay for it to be repaired and that the motherboard/ electronic compoent was not working and that I had to change it. It cost me $750 plus service charge and labour. Then I was told that the washer was under recall and I have like called maytag 20 times, and each time they take my name and address and says that they have to send me a part that without the washer could explode or leak or something. It has been like 1 year already and they have not sent me the part. On top of that the electronic board is not working properly, it is not spinning the clothes properly and they come out dripping.

I sure wish I knew about this web site a year ago. I would have never bought my Neptune washer/dryer. In Dec. 2007, My husband & I bought a Maytag Neptune front loader washer/dryer. Model # MAW6700AWW. We bought it as a floor model. Everything seemed fine until July 2007 the washer just stopped working altogether. I call Maytag, they gave me the phone # to a local company to come out and repair it for no cost since it was still under warranty. It took him a week to get out to me, then it took another week to get parts...that week turned into 3 weeks. I kept asking the repair man where the parts were??? He couldn't understand why they would not send them out. I finally called Maytag to get a very unhelpful, mean, customer service rep. She said they have so many complaints, mine was not the first one....it made me feel as if my situation was just not important and she was there just for a paycheck. She also told me that my repair may not be under warranty since it was a floor model! WHAT??!! Since when does a major company not stand by their product....apparently...Maytag! I fought that one and she continued to just tell me she'll forward my concern & rushed me off the phone....OH THANKS!!!! Another week goes by, no parts....I called back to Maytag and insisted on speaking to a supervisor. To my surprise I got a very understanding gal who wanted to help me and my problem. It seems that Maytag was confused with the parts order for my washer. It was still under my 1 year warrenty, but since it was a 2005 model, they couldn't figure out how it would still be under warrenty! A simple phone call would have fixed that. I could of faxed over my bill of sale. How long would I have been waiting for my parts had I not insisted on speaking to a manager demanding where my parts were!!! Anyways, the manager got it worked out and my parts were shipped and I recieved them within 3 days. After repairing the washer...it was still not getting all the water out of the clothes. Yet another sales call to come out. I had 5+ weeks worth of laundry to do for my family of 5. My husband went on a business trip with dirty clothes to have them laundered at the hotel! We do not have a laundry mat even close to where we live. I will never buy another Maytag EVER!! And yes, I do have the smelly moldy odor as well. Now I know where it was coming from! My 1 year warrenty expires next week, and I'm just holding my breath that nothing major happens to either of them! Shame on you Maytag for making such a junky items and not standing by them after 2005!

We are now on our THIRD Maytag Neptune washer with horrible results. When we built our new home we purchased the Maytag Neptune duo because of the water saving properties. We use a well for our water source and wanted to conserve as much as we could. The first was when our machine quit running just before the 1 year mark. The service guy came out and said the Motherboard was gone and he ordered parts. He came back to install the parts and the whole computer panel literally blew up in his face after installation! He was just putting the machine thru a short cycle to make sure it was working again. Sparks were flying everywhere and smoke filled the laundry room! He called Maytag ASAP and told them to send me a brand new machine, which they did about 2 weeks later. We had this machine approx 1.5 yrs when it stopped spinning and would not proceed to the next cycle. I would have to push the start/stop button to get the machine to advance. Again Mr Maytag came out and put in new switches etc. to get us running again. He told me that he had taken his name OFF the Maytag repair list and refuses to service Maytags anymore!! What does that tell you? Well that repair job lasted for about 3 months. Now what to do. The machine has totally crapped out and we refuse to put anymore money into it. I want a whole new set of a different make, but money is tight right now so we decided that if we could by a used washer in running condition that would match our dryer we would do it to get by for hopefully another year. We did find a set that a couple were selling due to a move. Great! I got a washer that worked and matched my dryer. Well guess what? We have had that washer for 6 months now and it is doing exactly the same thing! It will not advance to the next cycle unless I push the start button. Otherwise is just sits there and hums, with the timier running. So you think your load is done because the chime goes off but when you open the door it is still filled with water. This is so frustrating!!You then have to stand by the machine and keep pushing the start button to finish the load. Our clothes, especially the towels absolutely stink with mildew and that is disgusting!! I will NEVER own a Maytag anything again! We are looking at the LG Brand when we have enough saved up for a new set.

To my dismay and disgust, I'm now reading the information that so many other owners of this HORRIBLE machine are complaining about. My washer is filled with mold/mildew and it's leaving deposits throughout my laundry. The towels have a funky smell and the deposits are greasy and black (sheets seem to be the worst...probably because they are woven so tightly).
As well, about six months after purchasing this set of appliances, the dryer stopped working properly. Under warranty the repairman came out and put in new thermostats...it still hasn't worked like it should and it took the company at least six weeks to get the parts and make the repairs. I purchased the washer and dryer from Trail Appliances...I will not return there either (terrible customer service when my dryer wasn't working correctly).

Mostly towels etc. We have tried changing detergents, fabric softeners, and even buying new towels etc. but nothing seems to cure the problem. Yesterday, I happened to notice that the smell seems to be coming from the washer itself. So today, I go online to research this and find that there was a class-action suit concerning the very issue I'm dealing with. I was never notified that there was such a suit, and now I'm told it's too late to get any settlement. Great! So what do I do now?

We've tried applying straight bleach and scubbing with a brush to no avail. When I contacted the appliance store where we purchased our machine, their response was to leave the door open so it could air out. All that does is make the whole laundry room smell like mold and keep the lights blinking on the machine. To say I'm concerned about my children wearing clothes that smell moldy would be an understatement! What are the consumers supposed to do who missed out on the claim that expired in 2005?

We purchased a Maytag Neptune Top Loader Model FAV6800AWW in July, 2004. We had always owned Maytags. We had been advised to go to the Neptune or Atlantis series because anything lower was not good quality. We had an immediate repair in 8/04 with a leak. The dealer replaced the lid dispenser. We had not had any further problems other than a moldy mildew type smell all the time until Nov. 16, 2008. The machine made two screetching sounds and then we heard a burst of water. We couldn't find anything leaking, but the machine would not extract water from the clothing. We just kept getting UC and DC codes. The clothes were sopping wet when put in the dryer. Lamco, where we purchased the machine, came out on Nov. 19. After pulling the front panel, he advised that a seal had broken, sprayed water all over inside and it would cost $800 to fix. We were told that a seal should never break in such a young machine. He, at that time, told us that our machine is basically a lemon. He advised that Maytag knew they had manufactured a flawed machine and just went ahead and released it anyway. If the dealer knew this information when we purchased the Neptune, they did not disclose it to us. Maytag has never contacted us to let us know that there were problems with the top loader; however, there are many many complaints on the top loader. A class action suit was filed on the front loader. I wonder why Maytag is not being made to repay everyone who bought the top loader lemon as well. No washing machine should just completely shut down and quit working after a little more than 4 years. We are now going out to purchase an LG which is about the same price as the repair bill would have been on the Maytag.

The technician said that the transmission had to be repaired, and that they would have to order the parts. It took 3 to 4 weeks for the insurance to authorize and get the parts to the dealer. When the technician came again he could not fix the washer, because the motor also had to be replaced, and that it would cost more to fix it than to get a new one. The technician told us to call the insurance, and tell them to give us a new washer because he could not repair the damaged one. We called the insurance and they said they would not give us a new one , insted they would authorize the dealer to also buy the motor. But they did not authorize the dealer to buy the motor it would be more expensive to fix it than to buy a new one. I told them to give me a new one then. They said no, that there was no coverage. I tried to speak with a manager, but never was able to, and spoke to defferent operators and nobody tried to help me. All this time I had been going to the laundromat spending between 35.00 and 50.00 dollars. So I ended up throwing the washer. About 1 or 2 weeks lator someone called me and told me that coverage had been extended and that someone was going to come and fix it again,I told I had thrown the washer away, that they had to give me a new one. But the refused again. The worse thing is that they called me to tell me that the contract is over and that they never refused to repairit. Now all this is recorded on their system. Please help us.

I am a bit of a fix-it-yourself person, so I stuck my head in the washer and found the source of the mold. We tried to clean it off with everything short of an atomic bomb, but nothing worked. I replaced the liner myself and found that the drain in the liner that came in my machine had a plug in place! It was deliberately plugged at the factory and not connected to the drain hose! Like so many of us with these pieces of junk, we have had to throw out a lot of expensive clothes and linens. We bought the Maytag Neptune washer and dryer in August 2001. Three days ago the washer died. There's only two of us in this household; I do approximately two loads of laundry a week so this machine has not been hammered to death.
It died on the spin cycle leaving me with a load of soaking wet laundry to wring out by hand and find somewhere to drape it until it was dry enough to put in the tumble dryer. I immediately got on the Internet to do some research and was appalled by what I found. Thousands of people with the same problems? The black mold in the door gasket, the incomplete draining and recurring problems? Then I found out that the Maytag Neptune front-loader was the subject of a class-action lawsuit? But why was I never notified of this? And now it's too late to file? At least having spent some time reading through these other complaints, I understand why my towels stink to high heaven (and I was blaming my husband)! Very expensive towels, but it looks like they'll be thrown out. It might also explain why my allergies have gotten progressively worse since moving into this new home - we bought the appliances when we moved in. Maytag dishwasher doesn't dispense the rinse-aid (tech can't understand why); Amana oven was subject to a recall before we even bought it; now the washing machine. I just went out today and purchased a new Bosch washing machine. I will never again buy another Maytag/Whirlpool/Amana product (all the same company for those who don't know). I want to know what is being done to make Maytag pay for this whole debacle. I paid nearly $1000 for this washing machine - I expected it to last considerably longer than it has. No way was I paying upwards of $300 to $400 for a repair - throwing good money after bad. My new machine is being delivered on Tuesday and they are taking the piece-of-junk Neptune away. Now I don't know whether I should hang onto it and try to get compensation from Maytag.
