The ERFF keeps coming. We were told by the LG people to unplug it and it should reset. We guess what I lost $300.00 worth of food and the fridge isn't working again. It’s only 2 1/2 years old. I’m out of work and I don’t have the money to buy a new fridge. I’m now going to contact an attorney.

I bought an LG French door refrigerator in 2005 and have had a repairman there 4 times and still have the same problem. Ice accumulates on the back causing the fan to hit it making noise. LG did extend the warranty for 30 days and had someone come but the noise is starting again. Inside on the top, the light melted the plastic covering and the entire part is pulled about 1/2 inch from where it was attached to the inside ceiling of the refrigerator. I also have an LG Tromm washer and dryer that is only 3 years old. The washer broke last week and I can get no one to come to fix it. They all say they won't touch LG appliances. After reading the complaints against these products, I do believe there should be some class action against LG to replace or refund these expensive and inferior products.

My LG refrigerator (model LRFC22750TT) control board has failed twice in four years. LG denied any responsibility for the part's failure. I understand from the independent repairman that this happens frequently on this brand. I will never again purchase an LG product. There's over $900 that I spent to replace the bad control boards.

I purchased an LG french door refrigerator approximately 15 months ago. Within two months, I had to replace two plastic drawers, which were not under warranty. Just last month (one year and one month after the warranty expired), I smelled something burning, only to find the light bulb warehouse had burned the lining of the refrigerator. I have been on the telephone with PC Richard and LG for two months with no satisfaction. Now I read that there have been several complaints about this problem, yet no recall from LG! I will never purchase another LG product again!

We bought a LG fridge LF21860 from Best Buy, Ottawa in 2007. Last night, we thought there was a burning smell coming from the appliance. This morning, we discovered the light stayed on when the door was closed. Also, the plastic casing was melted and brown. We removed the bulbs, and at the moment, we are using the fridge without the light.

I purchased an LG stainless steel French door model fridge model # LRFD22850ST in 2007 and now it is beginning to have problems. The lights stayed on in the main part and melted the light shade. I thought that I had possibly left the door open a crack and this is why the lights stayed on. In order to test whether the lights were staying on, I put a bowl of water on the top shelf and discovered in a very short time the water was heating up (lights were staying on!). I also noticed a burning smell, and then noticed the light sockets were brown from burning. I unplugged the unit, removed the bulbs, and phoned customer service. They said they would try to get approval to have it repaired at their expense even though the warranty on parts and labor has expired.
I expressed my concern about this being a serious potential fire hazard and would like to know where I could report this to LG as it is an obvious flaw in design. I was not given a direction to follow in order to pursue this concern any further. I also asked if this has been a problem, but told nothing! I was just concerned that someone could lose their house if not aware of this hazard. I am often away on weekends and shudder to think what might have happened.
Now, I read all the other similar complaints and wonder why a consumer group has not been able to get the fridges recalled, replaced and off the market. Oh and the clip that closes the fridge fell off in my hand the other day, and the rubber gasket is separating from the door. This fridge is in a house without children so I cannot imagine how fast this unit would have broken down if it had normal family usage! I was thinking of getting a dishwasher to match my LG fridge and stove, but after reading all of these problems, I will not be purchasing an LG dishwasher! Consequences: Light shade needs to be replaced which I have ordered at Sears $13.00. Light sockets are burned brown! Some food spoiled!

We purchased an LG dishwasher in November 2007. The warranty is for 1 year on this item. One day, 24 hours past the date of expired warranty in November 2008, the machine quit. Sears (where we purchased the item) came to replace the pump. We tried to get LG to cover the costs, but they would not. It is now August 2009, 8 months later; and again, the machine does not work. The repairman has yet to arrive to fix it. This machine cost us $1000, and it's horrible! We also purchased an LG refrigerator, and within several months, we needed to call the repairman as the ice maker dispenser wasn't working properly. After a new part was installed, it still never worked. Sears agreed to replace the fridge and sent out a new one. Now, we have a recall notice to do another repair, as the energy efficiency with this unit is not as advertised. We will never buy another LG product, as they are not dependable!

I purchased an LG refrigerator in May 2007, model #LRFD22850. One month after my 1 year warranty had expired, the freezer sensor went out and had to be replaced. After an hour or so on the phone with LG, they agreed to cover the cost out of courtesy. I was happy until exactly one year later, it happened again. This time, the response from LG was much different and they constantly reminded me that they had already replaced the part once out of courtesy. When I asked them why I should foot the bill for an obviously defective refrigerator that is 2 years old and cost nearly $2,000.00, they replied that it is my responsibility to purchase an extended warranty.
"Why on earth should I have to purchase a warranty to cover the repair of a defective fridge?" I asked. "Why should my $2,000 purchase not last more than a year when I have a $400 fridge that has been fine for 15 years?!" My initial encounters with customer service agents were somewhat sympathetic, but once I was passed along to a supervisor, they were condescending and placed the blame on me for not having an extended warranty. I am sick to my stomach. I do not have the money for this repair and no one at LG seems the least bit interested in customer retention. This country is in a sad state of affairs and it is compounded by companies like LG who do not make a quality product or stand behind them if there is a problem. Never buy LG again!

Our previous refrigerator worked for 25 years without needing a repair. On 7/12/09, our LG LFC20760SW refrigerator failed catastrophically less than a year after it was purchased, becoming completely nonfunctional while still under warranty. I spoke that day with Mario in customer service, who told me that Suzer Electronic Services would be at our house on Tuesday, 7/14/09, between 8am and 12pm, suggesting that I call on 7/13 to see if we could get them out sooner.
On 7/13, Suzer called to confirm that they'd be coming on 7/15. I pointed out that I had been told 7/14, but they insisted that LG had scheduled 7/15, forcing us to be without a refrigerator for an extra day. On 7/15, a Suzer tech determined that the electronics board needed to be replaced. He called LG and was told that the part was on back order until 8/25 but that since that was unreasonably long to make us wait, LG would replace our refrigerator with a new unit after I faxed Suzer's work order and our original receipt of purchase. I faxed that information within an hour of learning these requirements, and I waited for a response from LG. No one called back.
On 7/16, I phoned customer service at 11am and learned that nothing had been done with the faxed information that had sat for almost 24 hours unattended but that the representative would now first give it to the right department, where someone would be assigned to review the case. Not understanding what needed to be reviewed, I had the rep add a note that we had already been without a refrigerator for 5 days. No one called us back.
On 7/17, I called again and was told that it would take 3-5 days (until 7/20 - 9 days after our unit died) for the returns department to review the case. I asked to speak to a supervisor, who said that she couldn't make the decision herself but admitted that she didn't see on what grounds the new refrigerator would be denied. I asked why, if everyone agreed that the part was back-ordered until 8/25, there was anything left to review. But she said that we wouldn't hear until 7/20.
On 7/20, not having heard anything further, I called again, at which time, I was told that LG was waiting to hear from Suzer. I told them that Suzer had contacted them 5 days ago. After a prolonged wait on hold, I was then told that it would be 7-10 days for review. I asked to speak to a supervisor and finally got Karla, the only LG rep who has ever told me anything accurate in this entire odyssey.
Karla said that she would bring the matter to the attention of Charles in the returns department and expedite the resolution. When I called her back to find out what transpired, the call went directly to hold and was then eventually disconnected. I called back, asked for Karla, but was told by a supervisor named Michelle that the exchange for the new refrigerator was denied and that our only choice was to wait until 7/27 for the defective unit to be repaired. I refused and asked to have Karla call me.
Karla called, got the exchange approved by Charles, and said that an agent, assigned to effect the exchange, would call me on 7/21. No one called. So on 7/21, I called yet again and was told by a supervisor that the case was under review. I told her that the exchange had already been approved, but no agent had called. I asked that Karla please call me. She did and told me that Tasha was our agent (our "Dispute Resolution Counselor") and gave me her direct phone line. I left a message on 7/21, another in the morning on 7/22, and another that evening. But Tasha did not call. So, I had to call Karla again on 7/23.
Tasha finally called on 7/23, but by the time she tried to arrange the exchange with a local dealer in our area, the store had closed for the evening. Tasha promised to call back on 7/24 with the answer. Tasha didn't call on 7/24 as promised nor on 7/25, 7/26, or 7/27. LG had already left our family without a refrigerator for 15 days in the dead of summer, and no one had called to tell us when the new replacement fridge will arrive.
At that point, on 7/28, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Alabama, because all complaints about LG Electronics USA, Inc. (located in Illinois) are apparently handled by their customer service department (located in Alabama). In the complaint, I specified that since LG's customer service was even poorer than the quality of their appliances, we wished to have our money refunded so that we could purchase a new refrigerator from a company that makes more reliable equipment and has more competent and caring customer service. We also requested some minimal reimbursement for lost food; for meals that we were forced to eat outside of our home, because we could not store food; and for the 30-person party that we had to cancel because we could not store food.
The following day, I finally received a message from Tasha, telling me that the replacement had been arranged. This time, she contacted me by email rather than by phone. I responded to her email that same day (7/28), advising her of the complaint with the BBB and instructing her that we would no longer simply accept a replacement, because we distrusted both the quality of LG products and the company's customer service, based on our experience thus far.
I did not receive a response from Tasha, but I did receive a call from the local appliance shop that they had a refrigerator to deliver to us. Surprised, I asked them whether they had heard from Tasha about the current problems and was told that they had not. I apologized to them for the inconvenience and emailed Tasha again immediately (on 8/4). I received an automated response that she would not be in the office until 8/10. I responded with a note that she was not only continuing to frustrate and anger my wife and me by not responding to our messages, but was also inconveniencing this store by failing to advise them of the problem.
We heard nothing more until 8/20, at which time, Joy, LG Electronics Executive Service Corporate Correspondent, responded to my complaint with the BBB. This LG representative completely ignored the problems with LG's horrendous customer service. She also minimized the significance of their product failing catastrophically within a year of purchase, commenting "All electronic equipment requires maintenance from time to time despite the most exacting quality control standards at the factory."
But this is not some kind of routine maintenance that can be expected - it is the complete and total failure of the item that LG manufactured. Ms. Joy then claimed that her records show that we received a new unit two weeks earlier, which is completely untrue, thus demonstrating that in addition to being uncaring, LG's customer service is also misinformed and inept (as if this point needed any further evidence).
Not surprisingly, we have also not received a response to either email sent to "Dispute Resolution Counselor" Tasha on 8/4/09 (more than two weeks ago), despite the fact that she was to have returned to her office a week and a half ago. So now, we have gone six weeks without a refrigerator in the dead of summer, and there is no solution in sight. I have written to Mr. John, VP Public Affairs & Communications for LG Electronics USA, Inc. and am awaiting his response.
I exhort anyone reading this post to avoid this particular product. In fact, since all complaints about LG Electronics USA, Inc. (located in Illinois) are referred to their customer service department (in Alabama), apparently regardless of the type of product involved, I'd suggest that you boycott LG products in general, as I am now doing. If not, you'll be dealing with the same incompetent, unresponsive, and uncaring people when you try to get your item repaired.
As I explained in my response to the BBB on 8/22, I see that the BBB of Alabama has received many hundreds of complaints against LG Electronics (more than 750 so far) and has given the company a C rating, indicating that the BBB clearly has questions about whether "the business is operating in a trustworthy manner and will make a good faith effort to resolve any customer concern," as their website explains. A class action lawsuit may be the only way to get LG Electronics to take its customers' concerns more seriously.

I purchased a french door LG refrigerator from Home Depot Charleston, SC in 2008. The refrigerator has never worked properly. The sides "bulged" out so it was virtually impossible to pull it out of the cabinet it was put into. I had to have the cabinet redone. LG customer relations said it was normal for the side to bulge. I find that very hard to believe. Food in the refrigerator part freezes, the energy efficiency that was advertised is false. They were supposed to replace a part last November and I am still trying to get them to replace it. The refrigerator drawers are hard to remove and replace. I will never again buy any LG appliance. I paid over $2,000 for this refrigerator and it has been nothing but trouble. I just "threw away" over $2,000. They have done nothing to reimburse me.

On June 2008, I bought an LG side by side LSC27910 at Best Buy. The first month, the fan for the refrigerator side went out. It took LG 4 weeks to fix it. Then in July 2009, the ice maker went out. I called LG and they said that I was out of warranty, and this refrigerator was delivered in July 2008, a month after I bought it, so where was my one year warranty? Best Buy did not know nor LG. They claim that the warranty starts when you pay for it not, when it's delivered, so my advice - do not buy LG products. I will not buy anything with an LG logo on it.

We purchased an LG refrigerator in Feb 2008 at Sears in Edison Mall, Fort Myers, FL. We have not had any mechanical problems to that, however, two days ago, the plastic cover for the bulbs in the refrigerator broke off. I put something away before going to bed and it was fine, but when I opened the door, the cover had fallen off due to the screws pulling through the plastic, exposing the bulbs and wiring. We are not sure who to call to get this repaired or if it would be covered by warranty as a defect. Another problem we have been experiencing is that there seems to be a design flaw in the ice maker. The ice cubes pile up at the back of the collector pan and the wire sensor scoops the ice and drops it under the door whenever we pull out the drawer. The only work around to this is to remember to pull the ice cubes forward before opening the drawer, something we sometimes forget to do and visitors don't know must be done.

I purchased a new LG refrigerator model LFX25980ST on 10/07 and was contacted by LG in 12/08 regarding a class action lawsuit from Department of Energy regarding the energy star rating on my new refrigerator. They offered 3 solutions to increase the efficiency of my new refrigerator. I selected the option to "modify" my refrigerator free of charge to make it more energy efficient. The authorized technician sent by LG to "modify" my refrigerator damaged my stainless steel door. He left fingerprints on the perimeter of both doors and a visible "dent" on one of the doors. I contacted LG and the authorized servicer immediately when I noticed the damage the next day.
LG offered me a settlement of $150 for the damage. The authorized servicer has denied that they caused the damage and will not accept responsibility for the repair. The stainless steel door cannot be repaired. I was advised by another service company that the repair cost would be $1,000 to replace my door. If LG had not contacted me regarding the class action lawsuit from the Dept of Energy, my new refrigerator would not have been damaged by LG's authorized service provider.

We purchased an LG French-door refrigerator in early 2007 from Home Depot. One evening, about 2 years later, my kitchen had an odd odor, like something was burning. It was coming from the refrigerator. When we opened the doors the smell was worse. Upon investigation, the plastic housing for the light inside the refrigerator had melted and the food had spoiled. It turns out the light does not turn off when the doors are closed. I can't even imagine what would have happened if we were traveling and not aware of this - it probably would have started a fire.
Luckily, we were home. We removed the light bulbs and contacted both Home Depot and LG directly. They outright refused to assist us since 2 years had passed and we had no warranty. LG's customer service was deplorable. We went to our local appliance store and they would not even touch it because of LG’s reputation and lack of customer service support. Since we are unable to purchase a new refrigerator at this time, we are using this one without lighting and with the interior damaged plastic. It is just sickening that LG can get away with this.

I bought a French door refrigerator from LG in 2006. At the time, I was still under the 1 year warranty when I noticed that the French door seals are rubbing when opening and closing door. When my ice maker froze and stopped working, I decided to call for service. I mentioned to the service tech that the seal are rubbing, and it is a matter of time before damage is done. His reply was that's how it is and there is not much I can do.
So 2 years later, I noticed the hole in the seal. I called LG explained and the guy on the line said yeah we understand let me check. He came back to tell me yes we will extend this courtesy and will replace the seal this one time. Three months later, no one showed up. I called LG and they denied any knowledge of an authorization. So people do yourself a favor and do not buy a product from a company that has incompetency from their engineering all the way to their service technicians to their phone operators. I will not mention here the issues I’ve had with my microwave and gas range all from LG.

Within a year after purchasing an LG refrigerator (Model: LRBC22544ST) from Fry's Electronics in October 2005, the bottom freezer began to frost up. An authorized repairman managed to get us about six months without frost. After that, the periods between the 3+ hour manual defrosts with the use of a hair dryer on the walls of the freezer, as recommended by LG in response to our complaints, grew shorter and shorter.
Our calls to LG brought such responses as: you are leaving the freezer door open, you don't have the frig level, you may need new gasket, scrub the gasket, put the gasket in the dryer to make it more flexible, something is blocking the air flow, vacuum the air intake below the fridge, etc. We did everything suggested yet periods between needed manual defrosts shrank. By June 2009, I defrosted weekly!
An authorized LG repairman tells us the fridge cannot be repaired as a design flaw causes the housing between the fridge and the freezer to separate and sag, allowing condensation in the insulation between units. This moisture seeps into the freezer causing frost over everything including ice we use daily. What toxins could be in moisture from insulation? No answer. As housing sags, more frost builds up faster; thus, needing to be defrosted more often. LG rep at last admitted that LG had changed the design and now has two sealed units, freezer and refrigerator.
What about a four-year old fridge that must be replaced? Sorry, it's out of warranty as per LG and "it's between you and LG" according to Fry's! What about the possible toxins that we have been ingesting daily? Again, no answer. Does anyone know which law firm filed against LG in US District Court, Newark for toxins in water and ice last year? I want in!

I am writing on behalf of my mother. She is living on a fixed disability income. Four and a half years ago, after saving for a year, she purchased an LG fridge. It died, as in the compressor quit last month. The store where she purchased the fridge will cover the replacement cost of the compressor, but not labor. LG will not help in any way. In my experience, aren't refrigerators supposed to last more than four years? The estimated labor cost to fix this model is $250.00, approximately half of the original purchase price of this model. She is on a fixed income. Is this unit destined to become landfill? Their representative actually said to me, "You can tell as many people as you want about this. Our policy is not to extend warranties or pay for repairs." I encourage all consumers not to purchase any LG products. Their main objective is to make a profit at any cost, whether at the expense of customer satisfaction or the environment.

LG Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Model #LFX21960ST, Serial # 704KRZH00613, purchased 6/27/2007 - Regarding the above referenced refrigerator, I am notifying you of my disappointment in the workings and appearance of this unit.
Upon delivery and installation, I took note of condensation around the doors. A service call was made and the technician explained that even when only one door is opened, both doors must be pushed closed. The problem was resolved. The next problem encountered was the ice maker not making cubes only crushed ice even when the function for cubes was pressed. The ice maker was replaced by the technician who did not resolve the problem. The next technician replaced a component of the ice maker which did resolve the ice cube formation. When ice cubes are to dispense through the door, they come out so fast that I have had glasses break. Rather dangerous with broken glass in the hand. I can no longer use the dispenser and must fill the ice tray and dispense ice by hand. When ice is needed for a large gathering the dispenser is worthless.
The stainless steel exterior is of poor quality. Some areas are magnetic which indicates a low grade of stainless steel. The finish is subject to constant maintenance. The slightest touch shows immediately, making the refrigerator look unsightly. An indentation on the right door occurred with a slight tap of the cabinet which is adjoining. The plastic interior is also of poor quality. Each glass shelf is set in plastic which has become unsightly with normal use. Even upon cleaning, the scratches are quiet apparent. The snack pan handle is cracked. The lower right crisper has rails which always have to be snapped back into place when drawer is opened and attempted to close.
Recently, a technician called to tell us the unit was determined not to be energy efficient and I was entitled to a “free” repair of the problem. Paying $2,200.00 for an appliance I would expect better quality. This unit was purchased for my home but would also showcase a kitchen for a prospective customer in our custom home building business. I cannot promote this refrigerator for a prospective client. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to resolve these complaints. I am enclosing my bill of sale, delivery ticket and certificate of occupancy. Even though the unit was delivered July 2007, the use of this refrigerator did not start until August 2008.

I'm an Electrical Engineer working for a French multinational company in Doha, Qatar. I bought an LG fridge (390 lits) + washing machine during the promotion period in March 2009. The salesman there did a good presentation about the LG products, but very cleverly avoided the country of manufacturer. I did not want to buy any product which was made in China or India. I insisted on original Korean products (because of my previous experience). Now the problem is my new flat is very noisy (especially during night) because of my new LG fridge (owner's pride). The compressor starts like a diesel generator. We complained to the distributor and they sent us the technician.
3-4 successive repairs by different technicians did not find any permanent solution. I asked the distributor for a replacement of my fridge with a bigger capacity because I do not believe that my present refrigerator can be repaired. They have lots of excuse to reject my request (I'm willing to pay more for a different higher capacity fridge). Moreover, this present fridge was made in India (I came to know about it only after delivery) and the utility is poor. I don't want to complain more to the dealer about this matter since I had complained so many times. We don't want to receive LG technicians every week in my house. My prestige and self-respect prevents me to make more requests and complaints.
Now myself and my wife have decided to stop complaining and to arrange a transport to return this LG fridge to the distributor store at our own cost. Before we are forced to make such disgracing steps, we would like you to intervene into this matter and find a solution. We insist on a replacement and no more repairs (since it's only 3-4 months old) preferably with a higher capacity fridge. My family is happy with the performance of LG washing machine.

I purchased a side-by-side LG fridge on 5/6/09. The ice-maker never made enough ice to fill the bin. The ice-maker was replaced twice and the computer was replaced once. Then, the in-door dispenser would jam and water and ice would continue dispensing. I had to open the door to stop it then un-jam the dispenser button. The good news is Home Depot was great! They let me pick a different brand (selected GE) and they gladly picked up the LG fridge. I’m sorry to say I had purchased an LG range, microwave and dishwasher so my appliances do not match now. However, I do have all the ice I need. LG is not a good brand if you enjoy ice. I am only hoping my remaining LG appliances continue to work well. There are no problems so far.

In September 2008, we bought an LG refrigerator (Model #: LSC27931). From the very beginning, the ice maker would jam. It also doesn't make enough ice and the ice bin is too small. Occasionally, a single ice cube would drop out of the ice maker onto our hardwood floor or the catch tray would overflow and water would run down the front of the freezer door onto the floor. Due to a busy schedule and being out of town for an extended time, we didn't start the repair process until March 2009.
To make a long story short, an LG repair technician has come out five times and a non-LG technician once. They have adjusted the ice maker flapper spring, replaced the ice bin, replaced the whole freezer door which has the ice maker in it, replaced the flapper spring with a stronger one and loosened the screws on the flapper bracket. Still, no fix. Hhgregg refused to help as they said it was an LG problem and after 14 days, the appliance can't be returned.
They basically wiped their hands off the matter. We now will have to continue getting the service technicians to come out, wasting our time and theirs, until they deem the refrigerator unrepairable. Who knows how long that will take. Even if the ice jamming is fixed, I will not buy an LG appliance or shop at hhgregg again.

I will make sure to let everyone I know never to buy one of their products. It is outrageous that a controller board is not under a longer warranty.
I'm looking at a week without a refrigerator, since it takes 3-5 days for the part, depending on which warehouse it's coming from. Then, I have to wait for the repair person to return. On 3/20/2009, another LG serviceman came out and fixed the freezer door. Everything was working properly until 7/22/2009, when the freezer and refrigerator stopped working. Very packed freezer and fridge and all food ruined for the fourth time in less than a year. LG came out on 7/23/2009 and said they will be back with parts sometime next week. I called LG and begged for a replacement. I talked all day with various supervisors who became increasingly rude. They finally told me they would not replace the unit and an executive supervisor nastily told me that LG would repair the unit 20 times or more in a year, but I would never see a replacement.
Also, they do not provide food allowance for ruined food. Home Depot, both local store and corporate, said they would not help in any way. $1,500 spent and hundreds in ruined food and nobody cares! I went out last night and ordered a new Kenmore from Sears hoping for a more reliable appliance and better customer service. I won't hold my breath! I will junk this LG, nobody else deserves this headache!

We bought a house with all new LG appliances. As soon as we moved in, we had to have the refrigerator fixed because the freezer fan unit was not working. A year and a half later, we woke up to find that the lights in the refrigerator did not shut off when the door was closed and melted the whole plastic cover to the point where it could not be removed. It also caused food spoilage due the extreme heat of the bulbs. When we called LG, they said they would not cover this because we are the second owners. Needless to say, we will not buy another LG product ever again. I also have an LG cell phone that constantly shuts off, even after I had it serviced and replaced the battery.

In April of 2006 (I think), we bought LG washer and dryer and an LG refrigerator from Best Buy in Hawthorne, California. In less than 2 weeks of using the washer, it began to stink to high heaven. I still stinks. I should buy stock in Arm and Hammer as I've used so much to try to keep the laundry from smelling like old mold. The laundry room is located in the house and I'm embarrassed to use it when company is present. The smell is horrible. I thought it was that the water was not draining due to the unit sitting uneven. When balancing failed, I just gave up and hoped it would go away; it didn't.
The refrigerator didn't mess up for 6 months! It started making a loud noise and that went on for weeks. I finally got someone on the phone with LG products and they told me to unplug it and wait for a few minutes. I did and it worked fine; for another few weeks. I then noticed everything at the top half of the refrigerator was warm and everything on the lower half was frozen solid. I did not understand that until I realized the freezer side was doing the same thing! No ice was being made and what was left from when it did make ice, melted and froze in streaks on the bottom half.
Here it is, 2009, and I still have the same problems. After the last authorized technician came, I have gotten plastic in my glass with the ice and in the last 6 months, I have to open the door to get ice from the dispenser. It is either frozen from the run off of water that goes into the ice tray or the dispenser just doesn't work! The TV lasted longer than any of them until a blue line appeared down the right side of the screen. Now, it is just there blocking the screen and messing up the picture.
I was warned about LG before I spent more than $8,000 on the products. I was told about the problems a friend had with a refrigerator. I just thought maybe it was his dumb luck. I suppose it is all our dumb luck since I've talked to more people with the same complaints and I've read some of the consumer complaints about LG products. In my opinion, every one that ever spent a dime on LG products should be reimbursed double what they spent and LG manufacturing should be eradicated!

I actually bought an LG double-door refrigerator about 8 months back. From the time I bought this, problem persists; but because of my two kids, I did not have time to complain. The problem is in the freezer zone; there is accumulation of ice like in the typical old refrigerators and in the refrigerator zone, the vegetables get burnt. They become hard like ice, and there is accumulation of ice on top of the vegetables. In short, there is over-cooling taking place; and as a result, vegetables, green leaves, etc. get rotten in 2-3 days' time, even when the knob is kept at a minimum.

Also, the food in my crispers was freezing. I bought the extended warranty from GE to cover it. GE sent out a local company to work on the freezing and the ice maker again. They tell me it's a manufacturing defect and cannot be fixed! Now LG says there is a part number for the fix and they have to replace the door to fix the ice maker. It will take 4 months to get the liner fix kit and Lord knows how long to get the door - and I'm sure it won't match! I paid $2500 for this POS! Please do not buy any LG products! I feel that if they used faulty part and were aware, they should have done a recall and been responsible for replacing the part especially since I spent over $2000 on unit. Also, it doesn't meet energy efficiency shown, so didn't qualify for state energy refund available with replacement if it meets energy level.

About 2 years ago, I purchased an LG French Door refrigerator from Home Depot in Sandusky, Ohio. Immediately, the ice maker started to overflow dumping ice onto my kitchen floor. I called LG service and they sent me a new shut off arm for the ice maker. It didn't work! A short time later, the guides and rollers on the crisper doors began to break. The refrigerator doors never did close properly, therefore, causing the light to remain and melt the light cover and push the control pane right out of the top of the refrigerator. Complaints to LG and Home Depot did not result in any satisfactory resolution to the refrigerator problems.
On July 19, 2009, I opened the door to the refrigerator to smell smoke. I discovered that the lights would not go out even with the doors completely closed (you can test this by pushing the light switches in with the doors open and the lights do not go out) and the top of the refrigerator was hot. The control panel was pushed out, and a container of walnuts was close to burning.
When I purchased the refrigerator, I asked the sales person at Home Depot (Evelyn **) if there were any reported problems with LG products and she said there were not. She did say that they did have problems several years prior to my purchase but they had made major improvements and their products were very high quality. Hmm! I now find out that the problems I have had been going on for years and continue to go on today.
I also bought an LG microwave at the same time but that's another story for another day. Needless to say, I will never buy another LG product and I will do all I can to make sure no one that I know ever purchases any LG product ever! Customer service from both LG and Home Depot is terrible. You would think Home Depot would discontinue selling this LG junk. It can't be good for their business.

I purchased my LG refrigerator and stove from Sears in Mary Esther, FL 32569. Within the first few months, the knobs melted and warped. It took nearly 6 months to get the right knobs from Sears/LG. They kept sending me the wrong knobs. Now, my icemaker has gone out. When the Sears technician came to the house, he immediately advised the plastic gear in the icemaker was broken. He conveniently went to the truck and pulled out a new $340.11 icemaker that had my receipt already printed and on the box. I know he didn't have a printer in his truck. Funny, how he knew the icemaker was going to require replacement and already had the bill ready! My icemaker is less than 2 years old. LG acted like they would have replaced the item; however, when they found out Sears was involved, they washed their hands of the problem. Sears rudely advised the product was out of warranty and have a nice day. I believe this is a common problem with the LG refrigerator and Sears is making money by replacing the icemakers.

I purchased my LG refrigerator (LFX25960 ) in May 2007. Within weeks of buying, the ice maker went bad, causing water to drip into the freezer and knocking out the light fixture. They replaced the flap door where the ice comes out, saying it wasn't closing and thus causing the ice to melt and in turn cause the drip. It worked for a few months, just long enough for my warranty to run out.
Then the next problem was the cheap plastic holding the drawer has broken, causing the deli tray to fall every time we pull it out. As well as the crisper doors are breaking. We now have no doors on the drawers and the tray now seats on the shelf below. The rubber liner around the doors is also tearing off. The stainless steel sheeting around the freezer door is pulling away. The freezer door handle comes off in our hand. The worst is that the lights stayed on while the refrigerator doors were closed overnight, causing everything to spoil and darn nearly caused a fire. The fixture is melted, and we are to afraid to screw the lights back in for fear that next time it would start a fire.
I have called customer service, and they would only repeat the same thing no matter what I said. And I quote: "I'm sorry. Your warranty has expired. There is nothing I can do for you."

In November, I received my LG refrigerator model 27931 after waiting about 6 weeks for my order to be filled from Best Buy. Right After we got it, we noticed that the icemaker liked to crush some ice even though it was set to dispense cubes. The problem got worse, the dispenser would clog up and when you held the glass under, nothing would come out. Using a wooden spoon to dislodge the cubes would bring an avalanche of crushed and cubes crashing all over the place.
When the serviceman came to fix that, we also wanted him to investigate this sound that was coming from the fridge. But, of course, it didn't make the sound when he came, thus no problem. The serviceman supposedly fixed the icemaker but, I thought the problem was worse. Meanwhile, the noise persisted and the refrigerator heated up to 56 degrees one day when it was set for 40 degrees and many things spoiled. The repairman returned to replace parts and fix the clogged icemaker.
I am very disappointed and disgusted with the product. It used to be that refrigerators lasted forever and the only reason you got another was to upgrade. Now, I've got an expensive piece of junk. I would not recommend an LG refrigerator to my worst enemy and hope that companies who sell inferior products go out of business.

I purchased an LG range (LRE30451) and refrigerator (LRFD22850ST, SN 604MRVB0055) in summer of 2006 from Best Buy in Green Bay, WI. Right away, we had problems with both appliances. The range was damaged and replaced. The replacement range was damaged and replaced. In the summer of 2008, one of the burners could not be turned on, the flat panel control button didn't seem to be working. Since it was out of warranty, I didn't want to pay the service fee for the tech to come and tell me the control panel needed replacement, out of warranty. The problem has not been resolved.
The refrigerator has given us problems from the start. The water dispenser has dripped from day one. A technician came out to fix the original unit, but it still dripped. So, we got a new unit in October 2006. The dripping still occurred. On May 9, 2009, the technician replaced some ice maker parts and the control unit (receipt attached). The unit still drips. On June 25, 2009, the unit stopped cooling and we had to throw out the contents of the refrigerator. However, after I unplugged and plugged in the unit, it started cooling again. But on June 28, 2009, the unit stopped cooling. On June 29, I had a local service center check out the unit and the technician says that the 2-year-old control unit needs replacing again, which will cost me $300. The fan that cools the condenser is not functioning. It cycles on/off for a few seconds, then stops working completely. Additionally, the technician thought the condenser may be damaged because of the heat. I now have a fan blowing on the condenser, and the unit seems to be working okay.
I contacted LG and although the customer service people (3 or 4 separate calls) told me that this situation would be resolved with favorable results to me, once I spoke with the "supervisor", I was told the product was too far out of warranty and I was out of luck, $300 out of my pocket for the control panel, which will likely fail again in a few years.
The failure of the second control unit is unacceptable. This is a $1,500 refrigerator that has given me nothing but trouble from the start, along with the range. We spent nearly $3,000 on these appliances and it was one of the worst purchases we've made in the past 25 years. If these units were over 10 years old, maybe it would be okay, but I still look at these as new appliances. What options do I have?

My 2-year-old LG refrigerator began to smoke. After calling our local fire department, it was determined that there was a short in the system within the refrigerator and that it was unsafe to plug back in. The lighting cap cover completely melted off the roof of the fridge, along with the plastic covering around the light bulb area turning dark brown from the heat of the light bulbs. Apparently, the bulbs were not shutting off when the fridge was closed, therefore causing the appliance to spark and smoke. Thankfully, we were at home and able to call for help, for had we not been at home, the result could have been devastating. LG claims the fridge can be fixed by replacing the motherboard and all of the melted parts. We are not satisfied with their remedy. We feel that LG should obviously recall this model as they have for several others, and replace or better yet, reimburse us for the cost of the fridge. We do not want another LG product.
We lost approximately $300 of spoiled food, as it took LG almost a week to get a technician to our house to "check" our complaint. My wife called LG's customer service and was told that LG will cover the cost of the light cover melting because that is a "safety issue". As for our other two problems, well, we were basically out of luck.
I read a post on here that repairing that flipper means replacing the whole door ($500+). Now, what's the likelihood of the other door flipper or even the repaired one going bad within the next couple of years? Pretty good I'd say! May as well buy another fridge and save the headaches. The white latches that came off are screwed into a black part that is integral to the whole door and I have to buy two new doors and have the tech install them for a cost of over $500 for a fridge that I only paid $1500 for! This is a design flaw. So what happens if I buy the new doors and a year goes by and I am out of the door's warranty again? We immediately (with a few weeks) began to have problems with the microwave, having to call a service man three times. Finally the entire door was replaced. Then it was the refrigerator; the icemaker leaked down the front, the food in the refrigerator was frozen solid, and the ice maker did not work properly. It was also repaired three times, finally the entire ice maker was replaced.
Then we discovered that the dishwasher was leaking. After two trips from the repairman, it was discovered that all the washer and gaskets were bad and had to be replaced. The worst part was that we had a solid hardwood floor and it was damaged during this leakage. Luckily we had purchased an extended warranty, so no out-of-pocket expenses. That is, except for all the flooring which had to be replaced at a cost of $500. I wrote to the President, Mr. Hwang, in April 2009, asking that LG consider some reimbursement of the flooring. To this date (June 22, 2009) I have received no response.
It seems a very small price for such a large corporation to pay to keep me as a customer. Where is there goodwill? Believe me, I will never buy another appliance with the LG logo on it. They have lost my business. In my opinion, all three LG appliances were somewhat defective or they would not have had so much repair work to be done within the first 18 months. I bought my French door fridge in 2007 (model LFC2560). The shelf that runs the full width of the fridge promptly broke. We assumed we'd done something to it so we bought a new shelf and repaired it ourselves. It immediately broke again. Looking at it, it's apparent that a design flaw—there is no center support for the shelf—is responsible. I called the company and they sent someone out to repair it. I told them I knew it was going to break again and what would happen when it was out of warranty? I was considering putting a 15-lb. turkey on the shelf so it would break again because he said if something happened three times, they would replace the fridge. He told me not to worry: they would replace the fridge even if it was out of warranty if the same thing happened again. He gave me a case number and a telephone number. He said with the case number, there would be a history of the problem in the LG database and there shouldn't be any problem.
You can see where this is going. A year and a half later, the shelf is sagging again and the stress broke one of the drawer covers. I called the company, gave them my case number and they said there wasn't one single thing they would or could do since it was out of warranty except tell me how to order a new part. There's no one else to talk to. There's no recourse. They suggested I write a letter of complaint that they will use to improve their product for someone else to buy, not to fix mine. I plan on finding every single consumer review website and posting the same review and complaint. I don't want anyone else to buy this big, expensive, stainless steel brick for their kitchen.

We purchased an LG French Door refrigerator, model No LRFC22750SW, in September 2006 from Sears in Kelowna. It was fitted by the Sears representative into our new home but when we moved in a week later, we found it was faulty. The light and fan were working but not the cooling system. Sears dealt with this failure to our satisfaction. A short time later, we wanted to use the ice making facility so I hired a plumber to make the connections. We returned to our home later that day to find the floor flooded. The plumber returned and discovered there was a piece missing in the system. The piece was replaced.
A few weeks ago, we found the interior light and control panel cover started to melt, and the screws heated and the whole thing was falling down. There was a smell of scorching and a danger of fire. We called an electrician who was an official LG repairman. He called LG and they said he needed to replace the main control panel. This he did and said he needed to order a new light cover and would come back and fit it when it arrived. A day and a half later, we opened the freezer and found the contents completely thawed and ruined. Neither the fridge or freezer was working.
Once again, we called in the repair man, who came the next morning, and he said the new main control panel he had fitted was faulty. There was no starting on the compressor. Therefore he refitted the old main control board, which meant we had no lighting but had cooling. The repairman has now fitted another new main control board, a new light assembly and lamps and everything appears to be working. We have spoken with LG to no avail as the fridge-freezer is out of warranty. The repairman is in contact with LG and we are waiting to hear how we stand.

Now today, water is pouring from under it. I pulled it out, the water line is dry. The line in the front of the kick plate is dry. I called today and was told, “You are no longer under warranty.” This company sends no notifications like other appliance companies do when your warranty is near expiration. It seems to me their products only last long enough for the warranty to expire. Then you have to spend hundreds of dollars to have it repaired. My last refrigerator I bought from Sears almost 20 years ago never had to have it repaired finally went out. And I got this one thinking I would have a good appliance. It just looks good. This is a rip-off.

I purchased an LG LRFC22750SW refrigerator in September 2005. This is the French door bottom freezer model. It was approximately $1,400. In 2008, the motherboard went, was replaced by a local company for $120. In May 2009, the components that control the lights off switches malfunctioned, causing the plastic light guard to melt and spoiling all food on the top shelf. I immediately called our local repair facility, who stated that they were aware of the issue. It was a common issue but the parts must be ordered.
On May 30, we received a call from the repair facility stating that this problem was common with these refrigerators, and it would cost approximately $750 to repair, half the cost of the refrigerator! This facility recommended that I call the LG customer service center to see if I could remedy this, as it was a known problem. On June 1, I contacted the customer service number for LG and was told that the refrigerator was too far past warranty, and that I, basically, was out of luck. This, to me, appears to be a very unsatisfactory resolution.
If I were out of the house for a vacation, this could have started a fire, destroying my home. If this is a known issue, shouldn't a product recall have been instated? Not to mention, to keep a four-year old $1,400 appliance operating, I have to invest half the cost of the appliance! Not to mention the $120 repair I had to make last year. Should such a reckless, life-safety endangering company be allowed to sell their wares to unsuspecting consumers? To repair this 4-year old unit would cost $750 (including labor), half the cost of the unit.

Customers beware; do not buy an LG refrigerator. I’m sorry I didn't read all the complaints on the Consumer Affairs website about LG defective refrigerators and poor customer service before we bought our LG refrigerator, on 03/10/09. It’s enough to make you cry! Within 30 days of purchase, the ice maker dispenser froze up due to the accumulation of flecks of ice in the dispenser with each use. After about a week’s usage, the dispenser needed to be unclogged. Also, the refrigerator did not cool evenly and froze the fruits and lettuce. After four service visits, including the complete replacement of the ice maker, I knew urgent action would be needed to try and resolve this issue.
Fortunately for me, the defects of the LG refrigerator became apparent near the dealer 30 day return and exchange period and the dealer exchanged it for a similar sized Whirlpool. However in my research, I developed a plan of action that may be of benefit to some of the posters on this Consumer Affairs Complaint page:
Progressive Action Steps: First, call customer service and try and have the problem fixed ASAP when noted. After four service calls to fix the same problem, write a concise certified return receipt letter to customer service, copies to LG Appliance Division President and President of North America at the following addresses: LG Electronics Alabama Inc., PO Box 240007, Huntsville, Alabama 35813-6407. Copies to LG Michael Ahn, President and CEO/North America; Young-Ha Lee, President and CEO/Home Appliance Company, 1000 Sylvan Ave. Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632, (201) 816-3157. If the preceding steps do not work and you are past the dealer return and exchange period, your only recourse is to sue the dealer and LG in small claims court!
Example Letter: The purpose of this letter/email is to return an LG refrigerator purchased on March 8, 2009 and received on March 10, 2009 from BrandsMart, Sunrise, FL. The reason for return is due to the fact that the unit is unrepeatable and defective. The problem is a defective ice maker, which has been serviced 4 times in 30 days from April 13th to May 14th without repairing the unit or determining the problem.
Continuing problem: The ice dispenser freezes continually after a 7 to 10 day period of usage, requiring unblocking and cleaning to function. With only cubes selected, flecks of ice are also dispensed with cubes and accumulate in dispenser opening and freezing. Cleaning creates a watery mess each time. Service repairs by visit (LG rep): 4/13 - unblocked ice jam, cleaned, and tested the circuit, no problems found; 4/20 - unblocked ice jam, replaced ice dispenser and auger motor assembly, and verified temperature and proper operation; 4/29 - unblocked ice jam, cleaned ice dispenser, tested circuit, adjusted water flow lower and set ice cubes to small cubes; and 5/14 - Jayâs service rep unblocked ice jam, cleaned ice dispenser and wrote that he was unable to find a problem with unit. The dispenser flap is closing well. Water is not leaking to a bucket from the ice maker. Ice is freezing up at bucket.
Based on four serviced calls for the same problem, the replacement of the entire ice dispensing unit, the inability of two different service techs to find the problem causing the ice jam of the dispenser in a 30 day period within a 60 day period of ownership and usage, I believe this refrigerator is defective and unrepairable! Please expedite the authorization for pickup and return ASAP! Consequences: emotional distress caused by realization that I purchased an expensive defective product which might result in financial damage!

I purchased an LG bottom freezer appliance on April 11, 2008. The unit would not keep food cold in the fridge or freezer and was repaired on December 30, 2008. The repairman said that the valve for the coolant was defective and the coolant leaked out. He repaired and refilled the coolant. It is now May 2009 and the fridge/freezer is not cooling again. I called Sears and they told me that the appliance was out of warranty. I told them it was not fixed correctly the first time, but they said 60 days had passed and there was nothing they could do.
I should have realized the day after I purchased the fridge and went back to Sears to set up delivery. The manager said he would not have sold me this appliance. It had a small ding on the door but I guess that was not what he meant. Anyway, how can LG get away with this? It seems like they are programmed to go out after one year (read all the other complaints). I am at a loss as I don't have the money to spend to pay a large repair bill and cannot afford to purchase a new fridge. It sounds like this would be a good platform for someone to make a statement on behalf of the American consumers.

Just please include me in a class action suit against this company. Lightning has struck two times. LG offered to buy out the remainder owed on the refrigerator because the compressor kept blowing out. It was slightly beyond warranty. We went to the dealer and bought the last one because it fit into the opening we had built around the first refrigerator. Now, the second refrigerator has a creaky door and makes a strange sound in freezer. Quite frankly, it’s just a matter of time before this goes too. The first time, we lost the food. The repair guy came over and replaced two compressors! I was without a refrigerator for 2 1/2 weeks.

I purchased the LSC 27950SW in September of 2007. We had to have our ice maker fixed in March of 2008. Now it is broken again. First it would not dispense ice and now it won't make ice at all. The first two customer service reps I spoke to just tried to dismiss me because I am out of warranty. The third gave me a couple of tricks to try. The fourth gave me another trick and the fifth finally transferred me to a manager, who once again told me there is nothing LG will do to help me. The funny thing is, I asked all six people if LG offers extended warranties. The sixth person told me now LG offers them, but I am too late since I purchased my refrigerator in 2007. So instead of the $99 it would have cost me to extend my warranty, now I will spend over $200 to have my ice maker fixed again. I have to pray it does not break again next year.
You know, good companies like Whirlpool and Frigidaire send you a letter/bill when your warranty has expired and they offer you an extended warranty. I will never buy anything from LG again. My dishwasher sucks too (it smells and the dishes are never clean). I've been searching the internet and finding all of the complaints people have with LG, so I know I am another unsatisfied customer. PS: Now I hear it might not really be Energy Star approved.

LG refrigerator model LFX25960ST - Plastic parts on doors and door handles crack, fall off and drop to the floor. This refrigerator would not hold up with one person who rarely opens the doors, much less a family. Letter to LG and calls made on March 27, 2009 have gone unanswered. Inferior and expensive product needs a recall. LG will not replace if over one year old. Extended warranty through PC Richards has replaced these same parts, but now is claiming they are cosmetic and will not do it anymore. They are not cosmetic if you can't open the doors. I call that functional! Sorry I threw out a 20-year old fridge that never had a service call to deal with an unresponsive company with inferior product. I advised the company to do a proper recall. No response. I will never ever purchase an LG product again. I will be contacting the BBB as well.

I have the French door LG LFC25670SB and it's about 2 years old. I experienced the same issue that several folks on this site complained about - lights not turning off when the door is closed and smelling of burnt plastic within the fridge. I have other LG units (front loaders) and they have been solid units. I called their customer service and took a different approach. Their call centers are pretty high tech (based on my call) and I asked the CSR what the number one problem people have with this unit. She, of course, told me the melting controls within the unit.
So after little conversation, she initially asked how old and whether or not I purchased the extended warranty (I did not). She asked for my receipt (faxed copy) and then put me on hold. She came back within a few moments and told me that LG would resolve at zero cost. A tech is coming out this week and I trust that this will be good to go after he leaves. The root of the problem is that these units were manufactured in Korea and LG is having all kinds of issues with the units manufactured in 2006.

We purchased a brand new, still in box LG French door refrigerator in July 2008 off of CraigsList. It was being sold only because it wouldn't fit in the seller's kitchen. Last week after nine months, it stopped cooling. I called LG and was given 3, count them, 3 companies who work on them here in the Charlotte NC area. We have two pro sports teams, and only 3 companies are authorized to work on LG refrigerators. Can you believe it? Well, three was an over estimation, since the companies were actually in towns outside of Charlotte Metro area. However, I still called them and two of them laughed and said they don't work on them anymore because they weren't worth the trouble getting parts along with the constant array of other service related problems. Can you believe this? These are people LG authorizes to fix their stuff.
Well LG was stunned but really did nothing more than tell me they filed a complaint against the companies. I'm sure the companies are "shaking in their shoes" about now. One lone company in a tiny town outside Charlotte is sending someone out today. I have made it easy for them as compressor oil is all over the floor. I called them and gave the model number in order to save an extra trip. I sure hope the compressor isn't in Korea, but I haven't heard back, and that's not a good sign. Anyways, the moral of the story: don't by an LG piece of crap, unless of course you buy the one I'm dumping on CraigsList the moment it gets fixed.

Unit had a melted top and the light receptacle was fried. I had an extended warranty from Home Depot that refused to cover the issue because it was a manufacturer defect. We bought our LG fridge, model LFX25960, in June 2006, but didn't install or start using it until September 26, 2006 because our home was under construction. In the first year, the computer board, ice maker, and the crisper drawer broke and had to be replaced. Luckily, they were all still under warranty. Since that time, we have had to replace the ice maker two more times; the frame holding the crisper drawer broke, and the automatic defrost fan motor, and now the computer is shot again.
When the fan broke down, I phoned LG. They told me I was no longer under warranty and should look at getting it repaired on my own. What he didn't tell me was that the error code on the computer display meant that my fridge had completely shut down. This had happened in the evening when I couldn't get a tech to my home. When I woke up the next morning, I found all of my food spoiled and the frozen food in the freezer was thawed.
All of these major repairs in 2 1/2 years are totally unacceptable. Every time I phone them about the problems we have been having, we get the runaround. The call center staff is well-trained to not connect the consumer with management. I spoke with their local warranty repair tech but he was not interested in helping solve this problem. We were advised by LG that this sound was normal (didn't sound normal to us). We again spoke to LG several times during the course of the next nine months regarding the noise that wouldn't go away and were continuously advised by LG to unplug the refrigerator for three hours and then plug back in.
To make a long story short, this has been going on for the past year (and of course) the warranty has now expired. Finally, this past Tuesday, after once again being told by LG to unplug the refrigerator - we called one of their recommended service companies. It turns out the whirring noise was due to a defective controller which cost us $200 to replace on a 1 1/2 year old refrigerator which cost $1,400. This is totally unacceptable! This is apparently an ongoing problem with this type LG refrigerator which they were aware of, but neglect to share the information with the consumer when calling customer service.
When purchasing this refrigerator, we did many hours of research before making this purchase and thought we were buying a dependable brand name. Apparently, LG has quite the scam going and I would definitely not recommend purchasing this brand. Please include us in any class action suit that hopefully will be brought against this company and this model refrigerator.

I have also consistently had a problem with my LG washer (Model # WM2455H). The washer has a terrible odor which requires that you leave the door open after each cycle and it leaves an awful discharge in the rubber seal after each cycle. This causes your clothes to retain the odor, resulting in many items having to be rewashed. I sold my motorcycle and wanted to use the money wisely and wanted the best refrigerator for my new home. When I first started using the LG, I noticed the ice maker would not shut off, so I just turned it on and off manually as I needed ice. After less than a year of use, I had the same problem with the light not shutting off and melting all of the control panel and lens. I went back to Home Depot because I was told by the salesman that this had the best warranty, seven years, while others only had a year. Of course, he then told me that it only covered certain items and not this. I left so I did not strangle him.
I then called LG and they refused to help in any way because I was now over the warranty. I was enraged and still am. Today, the unit quit altogether and will not run. I know a man who does refrigerator repair for Sears so I called him for his advice. He knew immediately of the problem as many of these LG units were sold under the Kenmore brand name. He said they have been repairing these even after the warranty expires, by replacing the computer board and installing a new light unit with overheating protection in it. He told me to buy a new board and install it myself, as he would not get involved due to the safety issue. I have ordered the parts. I'll leave the light off for now. Grrr!
What is wrong with this damn company or where is our protection as consumers? I am anxiously awaiting a class action suit so I can be a part. Who is it that we contact to start such action? I will also forward this info to the Atty. General's office in my state. Do the same.

In November of 2007, I purchased an LG Refrigerator from Sears. It was the new models that had the french doors at the top and the freezer drawer at the bottom. In February of 2009, I received a letter from LG stating the following: Based on guidance from the Department of Energy (DOE) about the interpretation of the testing rules for refrigerators, LG Electronics has changed the energy rating on the model I purchased. The rating now reflects higher energy usage than was indicated by the information on the labels and other materials at the time I made the purchase. The letter then states that I may be entitled to cash payments for past energy usage and future energy usage as well as a modification to the refrigerator to make it more energy efficient but still not what was posted when I bought the refrigerator.
On 2/23/09, I called the 888-848-1266 number listed on the letter and informed the customer service rep. that I felt as though LG did not misinterpret any energy ratings and I think they were caught red handed with giving false ratings so that consumers would buy their product over a competitor's. The customer service rep. transferred me to a supervisor named Wendy. I explained to Wendy that I wanted my unit picked up and the purchase price refunded to me. She said no units were being picked up at that time and the only thing being offered was what was in the letter. I asked to speak to someone above her. She said she would have to put in a request for that. I asked for a phone number and she said there was none. She said I should get a call back within 2 days.
On 2/26/09, I had not received a call so I called and spoke to a customer rep named Tina. She transferred me to Wendy. Wendy claimed she had put the request in and would check up on it so that I would get a call. On 3/5/09, still no call. I called back and spoke to Lionel. He had me on hold for a few minutes. He came back, said Wendy was busy, and I could leave a message to have her call. I left another message. I then called 800-243-0000 to see if I could get anywhere and could not get past a customer service rep named Rick. I wanted the corporate phone number and address. He would not give me a phone number but gave me an address of PO Box 240007, Huntsville, AL 35183. I sent a letter on 4/6/09 with delivery confirmation to that address with my complaint and request. I have talked to LG and never received a call back. The refrigerator all and all is of poor design.
When first installed, LG came out twice to level it. The doors do not fall shut as they should and when one door is opened, the other opens and unless you push on both they do not shut properly. We have had trouble from day one with all the drawers coming off the tracks; far too easily than they should. The refrigerator no matter what setting we put it at freezes all the food at the top. The water dispenser was designed for glasses that should only be two inches wide and eight inches tall. That's a total of 4 breakdowns in 2 years with hundreds and hundreds of dollars of groceries lost. Best Buy won't take responsibility and now we're trying to contact LG with no results.

I spoke with several people at the 800 number, then went on chat with Amber. My refrigerator went on fire from a faulty relay switch. LG refused to exchange the unit. They replaced the parts that caused the fire, and said the rest is cosmetic and they are not responsible for cosmetic problem. The damages to the inside of the refrigerator is a direct result of the fire. Another major repair is the board and fan. An energy kit is supposed to be installed. I was informed about the energy kit from the appliance repair shop. LG took several weeks to get the correct paperwork to the repair center. I called to have the relay switch repaired and was told they are installing an energy kit. The fire inside the refrigerator could have set the home on fire, with family members and pets in it. The ceiling of the refrigerator melted and cracked.
The fire could have set my home on fire. I have a damaged $3000 product that I expect will have more problems in the future and I fear could go on fire again. LG is being irresponsible to the consumers. Their customer support is awful. They are unreliable, dangerous, and untrustworthy. LG has accepted monies for items that claim to be energy efficient and reliable. The refrigerator is not energy efficient based on the standards as it was sold; therefore, the cost to run the product is a loss.
The cost of the food at approximately $300 is a loss. Direct from LG's website is LG Electronics innovative technologies, unique products, and cutting-edge designs are an investment in the future? Unless LG is defining innovative technologies, unique products, an investment in the future(?) as taking your money and attempting to burn down your home, they need to update their website.

I purchased an LG refrigerator (LRFC22750ST) which was delivered 9/05. In 2007, the freezer motor began popping, clicking and catching for a few weeks. Then the fan blade would stop completely, moan, and then free itself. It finally froze solid. We lost power for over 24 hours two days later and all the water that had frozen the motor was evacuated and ruined our finished basement, ceiling, walls, and carpeting. The motor began working again and we disconnected the icemaker thinking this may have been the issue. Since then, no ice and frozen motor. On April 2, 2009, I opened the refrigerator to find smoke, burning plastic and melting light sockets. I hit our GFI switch to kill the power. Luckily, the house and our family were saved, but it was too late to save the food.

I also purchased an LG refrigerator from Best Buy based on the salesman's advice. It was a French door bottom freezer model with Energy Star rating. I was not aware that it was a discontinued model. I noticed my electricity bill was very high in my new home with new refrigerator but had no previous bill to compare it to. Then I read the article in Consumers Reports magazine about it not being Energy Star-compliant. I contacted LG about the compensation and modification through their website. They never responded. Finally, I called them. I was informed the part is on backorder and would not be in for several weeks and that there would be a yearly compensation even after the modification as it would still not be as energy efficient as originally stated. As I am in my 70's, a compensation drawn out for 14 years is unacceptable.

We bought an LG refrigerator model #LRFC25750SW in June 2005. Two weeks ago, the refrigerator stopped cooling. Three repairmen came and said the compressor was seized. However, it was still covered under the 7-year warranty for sealed parts. Efforts to install 2 separate compressors failed to make the cooling system work. The repairman called LG and told them it could not be repaired. LG now tells me that they will prorate the cost. The refrigerator cost us $1,542.00. They prorate it for 3 years at 17%. We purchased an extended warranty (5 years), and we were told after the second time that they would replace the unit after three repairs. We telephoned today, and we’re told that we had to prove that the unit was serviced four or more times.
We had to prove (with paperwork) that it was serviced. We asked if they had any record of our numerous requests. However, they told us that they did not, and we would have to prove that it was serviced. We asked to speak to a supervisor, but we’re told that they only worked from 8-5 (it was only 6:30) even though the customer service line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days week.

We have a french door LG refrigerator that was purchased in June 2007. When we woke up this morning, the plastic light assembly was melted because the lights had stayed on all night. When we opened the door, there was a very strong smell of melted plastic. The top shelf of the refrigerator was very warm and the food on that shelf had spoiled. A friend of ours had purchased the refrigerator new, but due to personal circumstances, she had to sell the refrigerator. We bought it from her in October 2007, but she did not have the original sales receipt.
I called LG customer service this morning and since I didn't have the original receipt, they said there was nothing they could do. I told them I had read of several cases like this on the internet, so it wasn't an isolated case with me. But without the original sales receipt, they wouldn't do anything. I was referred to an appliance repair service in my area. I have 2 other LG appliances that I have had trouble with. The plastic parts in my dishwasher started breaking after the first year. I have had to replace the rollers on the top rack twice. The sensor cook feature on my microwave quit working after 2 years. Apparently, LG builds a nice looking product, but has forgotten about quality and customer service.

I too purchased an LG refrigerator and have had the same issue with the light not going off and it burning/melting the cover. It actually melted part of the plastic cover on top of the fridge. The person I spoke with at LG said they were aware of this problem and would extend the warranty to get it fixed. They came and replaced the lighting unit, and it worked for almost a week. I just went to the fridge, and opened the door. The light was on and then abruptly went off and the burning plastic smell became very noticeable. I unplugged the fridge, let the lights cool off, and removed the light bulbs.
I also am sorry I bought this LG brand. I’m very disappointed. I called LG. Now, I cannot seem to get anyone to answer, but I am left on hold for over thirty minutes. I have another call back to the repair service. I agree that some sort of action should be taken against LG to make them responsible for neglect to the consumer. I am also concerned about the fire hazard. I, fortunately, was at home both times that I discovered the problem. When I got a glass of water at 2am was how I discovered the first one. I can only imagine what could have happened had I not awakened. I sure hope it doesn't take loss of life to make them submit a recall and to take responsibility. Surely, human life is more important to them than their own egos. If not, then we all need to stop buying LG products.

However, he asked us to pay the labor, which was about $70. I was not happy about this, which caused me to call LG myself (1-800-243-0000). They immediately admitted to a problem, even before I started into my case, and said they would cover all cost. The dealer and LG are now working it out. I expect to get back my check for the labor. I intend to register the problem with the Consumer Products Safety Commission (http://www.cpsc.gov/) as a potential fire hazard. I believe the fault is such that LG should consider an active recall, not just wait for complaints.

On September 30, 2007, my husband and I purchased a new LG refrigerator, stove and over the range microwave at Home Depot in Davenport, IA. The appliances were delivered to our home on October 4, 2007. The refrigerator that we purchased cost $1,402. It is a stainless steel side by side model. A few weeks ago, on January 1, 2009, we noticed that all items inside our freezer had thawed out, and that our freezer and refrigerator had stopped cooling. We are a family of six so we had a lot of groceries. We hurried and put them on our screened in porch to see what we could salvage, but we still lost at least $100 worth of groceries. I immediately called LG to report that the refrigerator was broken. At that time, they told me that they could not assist me because I was not under warranty with them anymore. The warranty on the refrigerator was only for one year, and we were three months out of our one year warranty.
They gave me the name and number of a repairman in my area that I could call to fix the refrigerator, but I would be responsible for all labor charges since we were out of warranty. The repairman came a couple days later and immediately diagnosed the problem since it was a known problem with my model. He had seen others with the same exact problem. He told me that he would need to order a part and run some tests, but he was 80% sure that our refrigerator would be irreparable due to this defect; however, LG would require him to try and repair it before they would replace the unit. That visit cost me $180 for work that was under two hours.
It is now January 22, and we are still without a refrigerator. The repairman finally was able to do the final testing on January 20, and at that time, determined that our refrigerator is irreparable because LG doesn’t give you the option of buying the part that is needed to do the fix. LG considers our unit contaminated and will not allow a repair. I phoned LG customer service on January 21 to find out the procedure for getting a replacement since we have now been without a refrigerator for three weeks. They now tell me that they don’t have intentions of replacing our refrigerator since we have no warranty left. I’m absolutely appalled at how this can be. We have a refrigerator that our repairman has deemed as irreparable due to a manufacturer’s defect, and LG doesn’t see a need to help us or replace the unit that is only fourteen months old? So we spent $1,402 on a refrigerator one year ago and we lost over $100 worth of groceries and there is no help or compensation for our troubles.
We had nothing to do with this refrigerator breaking. Our fridge was put together incorrectly and now we have to pay the price. I feel this is an outrage. How can LG be allowed to do business like this? LG is supposed to call me this afternoon to let us know what they may do for us. I was told if anything, they may send us a very prorated voucher since our refrigerator is a year old and has lost a lot of value, or they may decide to send us a refurbished refrigerator with a 90-day warranty. This is extremely unacceptable, and I hope that other consumers never have to go through the nightmare that my family had to go through. I can’t even count all the numerous phone calls and hours on the phone with LG to try and get this resolved, only to find out that in the end, they are not going to help us by replacing the unit anyway because they feel they don’t have to because we have no warranty. Please advise if you can be of any assistance to my situation. I’m a completely helpless wife and mother of four small children that needs a refrigerator.

The temperature control and light assembly was melted away from the top of the unit. I got on the phone and called the number on my paperwork which was to LG. The lady told me to unplug the unit and let it cool down and then remove the light bulbs, and then plug them back in. The lady got my information and said that my warranty had expired. I told her that we had an extended warranty, and she said that I would have to contact the company it was bought from for the repair. Well I did, and then I was told it would be 24 hours before someone would contact me for the repair.
My question is, if LG knows about this problem, why haven't they recalled these units or sent someone to repair them before this happens? Thank God I caught it early enough that I didn't lose any of my food. The last technician we called to look at it was honest enough to not take our money and advised there is no fix for the problem! The only temporary advice would be to turn off the fridge and let it defrost for 72 hours (that's 3 days with no access to fresh food for a family of four including a toddler and an infant). We did this. And today, we turned it back on and within an hour, the error message was back and it is still not cooling.
We have already spent $525 to get a technician out to the fridge which did not fix the problem. After reading about the other LG complaints I repeatedly called them until I got a service technician. My refrigerator was over a year old. It took 5 visits, each visit being a weeks wait, wrong parts ordered, wrong parts sent to do a 15 minute swap out of the mother board (it has a bigger capacitor on it now), interior lights, and temperature module. Sears did explain that they had received a service notice on the problem and corrected the situation at no cost. However I had to do a lot of screaming in the beginning.
One thing that did get their attention was what another individual stated they did and that was telling them you are going back to the the credit card company and filing a complaint. Along with that I was ready to call the better Business Bureau, and notify your state attorney general. Now ironically my refrigerator is starting to have the low constant hum and I am afraid the next problem is going to be the FF error. I also noticed that the frost had built up on the back freezer wall a lot. It's really a shame that consumers of LG products have to go through these hassles and be place in a fire risk situation.
We've spent thousands for these products and I am not sure what a consumer product safety site is for if they do nothing but just let us vent and not help establish a class action suit against LG. It's time we put an end to companies like LG that produce hazardous products and put consumers at risk. I urge each of you to contact the 3 organizations I listed above and file your complaints. Then go back and tell Sears/LG you have done so and you won't stop until their products are recalled and money refunded. I am disappointed in the consumer safety products has not taken action to eliminate this problem. At the very minimum demand your product defect be corrected and don't give up. We need to keeping calling LG/Sears until they become accountable for their actions. And it's small but spread the word to all you cannot to buy LG products. I've already detoured friends from even looking at LG's products who are shopping for appliances.

I have had my LG side-by-side for just over 2 years. We had a power outage recently and my freezer/ice maker has not worked properly since. The authorized repairman came out and told me that the card had to be replaced. It will take 7-12 business days to get the part. This is ridiculous. Have they never heard of overnight express?? I suggest you stick with a well known US brand that you can get repaired on the same day and not have to wait. No more LG for me. Ever!! BTW the repairman told me that LG purposely builds their refrigerators to fail and consider them expendable items. They don't make them to last 25 years anymore. So plan on replacing your LGs every 5 years. Once this one dies, I'm going to Sears.

June of 2007, I purchased a LG French Door refrigerator and within a matter of weeks the refrigerator started falling apart. After three months of my time and money, LG and Mcmanns finally sent a repair person out to fix the refrigerator. It took another two months before someone actually decided the fridge needed to go back. I was allowed to pick a new fridge. Then again within a matter of weeks the new fridge - same model, different make, started having problems. So far it has only been roughly a month since I have been dealing with the two companies about returning the fridge and picking a different one. I am having a problem with Mcmanns furniture allowing me to select a fridge that is not LG and LG won't refund any money. I have so far spent over a thousand dollars on a piece of garbage that is not reparable.

Like many others on this forum we have an LG refrigerator that likes to leave the lights on. The inside gets very hot and melts the covers. Our solution has been to remove the bulbs. After reading the comments here there seems to be no point in contacting LG. I definitely think it is just a matter of time before someone's house burns down, hopefully no one is hurt or killed. LG must know this is a problem and are definitely negligent for not taking action.

We purchased the LG French Door Refrigerator in Sept 2005 and have had several problems with the ice maker. Our most recent and worst problem was when the lights stayed on and melted the light sockets, lamp cover and display case. I didn't have any problem getting the technician to come out. They actually diagnosed the problem over the phone saying the main control board was the problem, and now LG has an updated version. At a cost of $362.94 they could fix the problem. When I called LG they told me that the warranty was only good for one year that they would not cover any of the cost. I explained that this a defective part and is a major fire hazard but they didn't seem concerned at all. Before this LG refrigerator purchase we had an Amana for over 20 years without a single service call. It was still working when we gave it away - we just wanted a new updated refrigerator. I only wish we had never purchased this LG model.

My refrigerator was missing a basket in the freezer and it's been almost a year and still don't have one. Also, it is stainless steel and I have several dents on it and they told me it was strong and it should have not happened. And forget about replacing the water filter. You cannot even get one unless you order them.

In the year 2005/2006 we did up our entire house interiors - from flooring, to new electrical wiring/fittings, paintings, tapestry, curtains, kitchen cabinets and the works basically. All the household appliances were equally new. We had purchased 5 split ACs, 1 tower AC, 2 fridges (1 - 2door DIOS 700 ltrs n the other 450 lts), 40 and 42 TV all LG products, besides all other house appliance of various other makes.
From the month of March'08, we have been complaining that the ice dispenser was getting choked and not functioning, besides the ice in the above ref. side tray was getting full. Every 2 hrs or so we had to pull the tray and empty it out. In the mornings we would have huge pool of water under the fridge, also there was ice on the glass shelves that was forming on the ref side in the DIOS fridge. The engineers would come and do some settings and go, but the problem did not sort out. We had to take this matter to some higher up, then I was told that the fridge being 700 ltr capacity, was not utilized fully so the engineer decided that he will change the controller unit to bring it to a lower capacity, which we refused and asked him to repair the same. But some controller was changed and I had to pay Rs850/-(Indian rupees). After changing, within a month, we had a major blast in the house and our entire kitchen was fully gutted along with all the appliances, and the soot had damaged our entire house - from the floor tiles, to our clothes, curios, tapestry, curtains, paintings, art etc.
We immediately informed the company personnel to visit the site to check the damages and also the fridges. They came from their Mumbai office, their HQ - New Delhi, Pune office, saw the damages, checked the fridge, took photos, made their reports, and that is it. We requested them to help us out by servicing or replacing the ACs/TVs etc. and pay for all the damage caused, but suddenly they have changed their stand and say that they were not allowed to enter our premises to check the damages. This is the type of company that LG is portraying themselves as.... Brand of Lies, deceit, bad service, faulty/sub-standard products which they are dumping all over the world. In our house we were lucky that our lives are saved, but just two weeks back in Mumbai in another mishap of a fridge blast, 4 lives were lost.

Purchased a LG French Door refrigerator in November 2006. In Sept 2008 low frequency humming began emanating. Sounds grew louder until 1 month later when the error code FF showed on the display panel. Called LG and was informed to unplug unit for 2 hours. After 2 hours, FF error still appeared. Called LG again and was told to unplug for 8 hours. FF error went away. FF error re-appeared the following day. Unit is not cooling well. Not going to purchase an LG appliance ever again. Will purchase another unit from another manufacturer (GE) when I tried of unplugging unit and/or manually defrosting freezer.

Our LG refridgerator is only 1.5 years old. We have continuous problems with the error code FF even after leaving it unplugged for a whole day. Secondly we almost had a fire in the unit after we discovered that the lights did not go out when the doors where closed (the open door alarm did not go off). The whole light unit melted and there are burn marks above and in the light sockets.
Good thing we caught it over night rather than after a weekend away. We ended up taking the lights out and now have to find our food in the dark. Very disappointing. While I loved the refridgerator at first, I will never buy LG again. I am afraid what the next melt down might bring.
Interior of the refridgerator is scorched and melted all around the light unit. Several hundreds of food items gone to waste each time the FF error code comes up - at least 2 times a week.

The freezer is accumulating excessive frost on freezer rails and drawers preventing proper door and rail functions.
We contacted LG, they acknowledged the malfunction and suggested to replace some parts as part of the one year warrantee. We requested that the refrigerator be replaced since it is a manufactured defective unit and the defect was observed few days after delivery. We are certain the fridge was defective unit at delivery but the nature of the defects could not have been observed at delivery time.
LG refused to replace the unit and offered to repair it as part of the warrantee. We are concerned that the fridge may have consequences of Mfg defects that may occur after the one year warrantee. We are very disappointed of LG product and the LG customer service.

We saved up to buy this refrigerator and loved it for the first year(until the warranty was up) then we had the same problems many others have had. The lights would not go out when the doors closed and it almost burned the house down!!! It smelled so bad a few days ago when I opened it...burned the jelly jar lid, melted the plastic cover...it was awful. LG needs to recall this----HORRIBLE. The will not help in any way even though so many people have had this problem. At first I was told to call a service person and it would be covered, but when I called them they simply said it is not covered and they would not help--call LG back is the response I got. Do not ever buy a refrig from them or be prepared to spend some money!!
As of right now I am still calling them. We took the bulbs out and can not see our food...when we open the doors. So now with our 1 year old refrig we need a flashlight to see our food.....kind of like camping, just not fun. LG stinks.

Just after the warranty expired we had the same issue with the light staying on inside the refrigerator, burnt plastic light bulb housing hanging from its wires. In fact, I am looking at the burnt and melted parts now because we have not been able to find replacement parts. Model LRFC22750SW I am encouraged by your recent experiences in getting LG to recognize they have a major problem. I will call them tomorrow.
Luckily we were home! Otherwise, the house might have burnt to the ground. We will never buy another LG product, not even a cell phone. This piece of junk needs to be recalled. Noticed at the Appliance store that the LG refrigerator now has LED lights.
Food spoiled.
