About KitchenAid dishwashers

KitchenAid dishwashers have several design options to choose from. Options include:

  • Front control panel
  • Top control panel with towel bar
  • Top control with a pocket handle
  • Panel ready
  • Front-window models

While the glass window doesn’t offer any performance improvements, it’s a nice visual feature.

One design aspect to be aware of is the dishwasher size. KitchenAid dishwashers usually measure 24½ inches or 24¾ inches. This is slightly longer than the 24-inch kitchen cabinet standard. If you’re looking for a dishwasher that fits seamlessly with your current cabinetry, a KitchenAid model may not be the right choice.

How do KitchenAid dishwashers work?

KitchenAid dishwashers have several features that make the brand a popular and reliable choice. A third rack, for example, is a feature that is growing in popularity. Many KitchenAid models with a third rack also have rotating wash jets.

The dishwasher’s triple-filtration system helps customers prolong the life of their KitchenAid appliance. Each model has a screen filter, a coarse filter and a microfilter. This helps remove food particles from the water and prevent them from making it back to the dishes. It also helps stop the drain from clogging and saves energy by allowing the dishwasher to reuse water.

The most important feature of a dishwasher is how well it washes. The standard wash arm on most KitchenAid models is designed to reach every part of the dishwasher. Most models also have the ProScrub feature, which has 40 targeted spray jets that eliminate the need for prescrubbing or soaking.

Another notable feature available is the ProWash cycle, which automatically determines the ideal cycle for dishwashing based on how dirty the dishes are.

KitchenAid dishwasher prices

Since KitchenAid is a household name for kitchen appliances, the brand carries a premium price. KitchenAid dishwashers can range from $800 to as much as $1,900 if you choose a premium model. That said, there are more affordable KitchenAid models and ways to save on your purchase.

On average, you can expect to pay about $1,000 for a midrange dishwasher. Always check flyers or contact your local dealer to ask if there is an upcoming sale. Finding the right deal can save you hundreds of dollars.

My architect bought a new Kitchenaid dishwasher at my request based on steller recommendation in Consumer Reports. It arrived and never worked from the start! I had to pay a Kitchenaid technician just to come and look at it. He said it needed a new chip and left. I expected Kitchenaid to swap out this defective machine! I did not want it because there could be other defects. It has been 2 months since we moved in that my architect/builder have been trying to contact the company and getting the runaround. We paid top dollar for a new machine and still have it in our kitchen but it has never worked at all!!! Their warranty is Worth Nothing! DO NOT BUY A KITCHEN AID DISHWASHER.

I bought a high-end KitchenAid dishwasher expecting premium performance 4 months ago— instead, I got a poorly made appliance that underperforms in every meaningful way compared to my 15-year-old Bosch.

    Summary
    • Build quality feels cheap: too many exposed plastic parts where metal should be.
    • Multiple leaks over a short period, all traced to poorly designed plastic reservoirs, fittings, and O-Ring connections.
    • Cleaning performance is subpar — pans and baked-on food routinely need hand washing after all cycles.
    • Drying is terrible despite the “Advanced ProDry” marketing; plastics stay wet and filmy.

    • My 15-year-old Bosch beat this unit on reliability, cleaning, and drying.

    Details
    • Construction: Interior racks cause dishes to fall into each other damaging them. Spray-arm mounts, and many internal fittings are molded plastic. The overall impression is not “professional” or durable for a premium-priced machine.
    • Leaks: The dishwasher developed several leaks immediately. Each incident was caused by fittings/seals that were poorly designed. O-rings were seated well and still leaked. Leaks required several service visits, replacement of many parts, the addition of hose clamps, and still remain problematic.
    • Cleaning: Light loads and dishes wash okay, but pots, pans, and dishes with dried-on food regularly come out with residue. I frequently have to rewash pans by hand. Cycle selection and detergents didn’t fix the problem.
    • Drying: The Advanced ProDry system is ineffective on plastic items — cups, lids, and containers come out dripping and often with water spots. Even some metal items require towel-drying.

    • Comparison to Bosch: My old Bosch (15 years) was quieter, cleaned better, dried plastics better, and never had leaking problems. It feels like KitchenAid prioritized cost, features and marketing over core performance and durability.

Recommendation: If reliability, cleaning, and effective drying are priorities, I would not recommend this KitchenAid model. Consider proven Bosch models or other brands with better track records for build quality and long-term performance.

Disappointing. That machine only lasted 3 years before needing a part that cost more than the dishwasher I replaced it with.

My dishwasher is less than three years old, and for the second time in two weeks, the lights are flashing. This is ridiculous!!! Once again, I'll need to call for service, even under warranty, this is a sub-par appliance. I replaced three appliances at the same time with Kitchenaid and the d/w, so far, is a major problem.

Rack reeks of chemical smell when door is opened after washing. In six years it has not dissipated. We do not want to breathe it nor do I want the particles on my dishes. Really disgusting.

ZERO STARS! I purchased a Kitchenaid Dishwasher in 2024, The front panel of the dishwasher has a vent above the control panel and steam comes out. It WILL RUST, just wait for it and it keeps spreading!\ They came and replaced it last year and now here we go again! It is a DEFECTIVE PRODUCT! And all you get for customer service is hours on the phone, dropped calls, no call back and you have to be in the que for hours with no response and by the way no way to speak to someone in the US that actually UNDERSTANDS ENGLISH, not just speaks it. You will have to have a nasty front panel that will rust to no end, horrible looking and I can't imagine what it would like like down its shelf life. And ZERO CARE OR CONCERN FROM WHIRLPOOL OR KITCHENAID. WORST PRODUCT AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT EVER!! BUYER BEWARE AND RUN!

We purchased the KitchenAid KDTF924PPA 00 dishwasher in the fall of 2025 for our new home based on its predecessor, purchased in 2017: that model was quiet, fit plenty of dishes and glasses, and we never had a problem with it. We have moved a lot over the years and I have often had to work with appliances that were sometimes not the best design or had some issue. I have always been able to adapt. Not in this situation.

This KitchenAid dishwasher wins the prize for the worst possible design. Plates fall over, glasses have no support, the top rack is basically useless. I removed the top part of the utensil holder since it did not fit our forks - which are a normal size. Overall, the interior appears to be quite a bit smaller and does not fit very much. We have not had family come stay at our new home yet but I can't imagine it is going to fit very many dishes if there are 4 people eating. It is not loud but definitely not as quiet as our older model.

So far, it has done okay cleaning but I do rinse all my dishes. I read reviews (after wondering whether there was something wrong with the way I was loading the machine) and found MANY disappointed customers - not only for the design but also because dishes were not clean unless they had been well rinsed before loading. (Again, something we never had a problem with in the older model.) So, shame on me for not having read reviews before purchasing this model. I relied on my experience with the older model and figured that maybe KitchenAid would even add a great new feature or two.

Instead, they ruined the interior design. A toddler would have come up with something better. As for the reliability, I have not had it long enough to comment on that. In fact, I have had to force myself to use the machine as doing the dishes by hand has been better. There have been some reviews that did mention the machine breaking down after several months...so I will wait and see. I feel awful for hoping that it will break down - but at least then I could feel less guilty replacing this with another brand. Before buying this model, take a very close look at the interior design.

Kitchen Aid dishwasher model KDPM604KPS. Great dishwasher except the handle is extremely poorly designed. Within just a few months of normal use, the plastic handle (embedded into the door) broke off. I had to put it back on with duct tape. I asked about warranty (there was none), and the only solution would have been to replace the entire door since the handle is part of the door, for about $400. But then the handle would have just broken off again. We've been using it for quite a while with the duct tape on and it's fine, but I'm pretty frustrated I spent so much money on a high quality dishwasher when something as simple as the handle won't function properly.
