About KitchenAid Dishwashers
For decades, the KitchenAid brand has been synonymous with kitchen appliances. The dishwashers are known for several important features: high load capacity, robust wash systems and quiet cleaning. These convenient features and a reliable brand name often translate into high costs. While KitchenAid has dishwasher models in the top-of-the-line price range, several models are on the high end of average.

We purchased KitchenAid model # KDFE204EWH1, paid $145.00 to have it installed, bought extended warranty and it has never cleaned a dish. We had two technicians out who gave us "hints" to help, i.e. put more soap in, run your faucet until the water is so hot that you can't touch it because the first rinse in the machine is cold water, use Jet Dry. I've been using dishwashers for a long time and have never needed technicians to come to the house and instruct me on how to use it. KitchenAid has officially chalked the problem up to "owner misuse". This is highly insulting and ridiculous. We even paid our plumber to come and see if the problem could be caused by our plumbing - negative on that. I called the company and was told that if I try another dishwasher detergent, that it might help. "Other customers have found it to be very helpful".
Give me a break! The machine is a piece of garbage and has never, ever worked. $1,000. of our money has been thrown out the window and we have been treated poorly by this company to say the least. Save your money, do your research and buy something other than a KitchenAid/Whirlpool. We now have to clean our dishes by hand. Horrible machine, horrible company to deal with. They will not send anyone else out to look at the dishwasher unless we pay for it. They have done all they are going to do and don't care that the machine doesn't work. They are finished with us as we are with them.

My KitchenAid dishwasher is leaking out the front and when it is in drying mode the control panel gets covered with condensation. I have contacted the store in which I purchased my appliance and they are coming out for the second time. After reading other reviews I am having some concerns over the quality of this product. Is there any way to force KitchenAid to stand by their products, and replace faulty appliances as needed?

I own a Kitchenaid dishwasher model # KUDS301XSS9. We bought it from Sears less than 3 years ago with the service warranty package. I've had to have a service guy out 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS to fix 3 separate issues. The lower racks wheels have been falling off and melting, causing damage obviously. They, Kitchenaid, won't send me replacement wheels unless I pay $30 a piece for a pennyworth of plastic. They make their products so poorly that it's basically guaranteed to fall apart in no time flat so you'll be bound to pay their grossly inflated prices for replacement parts. Do yourself a favor and buy parts elsewhere online for a fraction of the cost. This company is such a joke and refuses to stand behind their products. Lost us and my family as customers for life.

I purchased a model KDTE204DSS0 KitchenAid dishwasher on 12/1/14 for $717.48. It has a stainless steel tub. Fourteen months later (2/16) we had water leaking from multiple pinhole leaks in the stainless steel tub where the base of the tub is molded to fit the screen and pump. I called Whirlpool and they said that the tub has a lifetime warranty but it can only be installed by an approved appliance repair facility. That cost $150.00 (I removed, delivered and installed the dishwasher again myself). On 9/8/16 (seven months later) the dishwasher is leaking again and has again the same pinhole leaks in the new tub. I get a slight shock when I touch the screen inside the tub and believe there is a galvanic reaction going on that is eating up the stainless tub at its thinnest area.
Since I find no other reviews mentioning this problem, and it appears to be more than just a tub problem but a unit problem (i.e. a lemon), I asked Whirlpool to replace the unit. As you already know, they said no but would replace it for $17.00 less than I paid for the last one less than two years ago. If I paid another $150.00 to replace the last tub that would be about $500.00 a year to wash a load of dishes every other day. This negative review is as much about the manufacturer as it is about the faulty dishwasher.

What a piece of junk! When did KitchenAid allow their products to become inferior to the point of totally frustrating the consumer. KitchenAid used to be a quality product. I've only had this for 3 years - in the first year the plastic clips broke on the back of the thing and I had to contact a supervisor to get them in time for the holiday. Basically the top rack is worthless - totally and completely worthless. All the plastic pieces snap off and break - clips, rollers, etc. When you try to adjust them to get the rack to go back in so you can close the door the plastic things break. I ordered extra plastic clips when I got them the first time and those have broken. By the second year the bottom rack was falling apart and would not roll back in. The wheels are broken.
Furthermore, the electronics is crap. I will use a setting and come back 3 or 4 hours later and it is still running - or trying to run. Half the time the dishes don't even get clean. I'm so angry. I'm a single parent and spent my tax refund check getting this and it works worse than the 10 year old thing that I had before this junk. At least the 10 year old dishwasher didn't have plastic pieces breaking. Stop making this crap in China and make it in the U.S. with quality parts and quit making it cheaply so that you can blame the Chinese for your own design flaws. Quit paying your CEO a fortune and making crap. Concentrate on making something that lasts. Since KitchenAid is owned by Whirlpool I assume the same will be true of Whirlpool's quality.

We just renovated our entire home, and I wanted a good, solid, basic dishwasher for the basement kitchen, thinking this a better option for my teens. This is not our main kitchen and it doesn't get the normal amount of use like our main, upstairs kitchen, and I didn't want anything too complicated. The KitchenAid dishwasher was installed and leaked from day two. It leaked out the sides and all over the floor, and ruined the brand new cabinetry that it was installed next to. In the two years that we've had it, it has been serviced 7 times, and tomorrow will be the eighth. It was barely nine months old and a pump had to be replaced.
Early on, I begged the KitchenAid company for a new unit. I even offered to spend a little more and get a totally different unit, knowing I'd have to have another cabinet panel made to match our cabinets. Anything to get this lemon out of my kitchen! Nothing doing. I'm basically stuck with it, and now whenever I call (again) for service, they want to charge me the service call because it's out of warranty, even though they have the service history. I ask for a supervisor and they finally agree to foot the service call, but for how much longer, it's anyone's guess. Thank goodness I chose two Bosch dishwashers for upstairs. They are quiet and work wonderfully, and they get a lot of use!

Dishwasher just quit working about 3 weeks ago. After about one week, I tried cleaning the inside. The bottom was all "rust". When I went to wipe it out I got shocked. Needless to say, I left it alone. Called technician in and he said it was the worse dishwasher he had seen. The seal on the motor evidently leaked and blew out all the functions for operation. It would be too expensive to repair. Here is a picture of the dishwasher. This dishwasher was installed 2 years and 1 month ago.

When I was a kid my mom loved KitchenAid but we bought a Bosch because the style we wanted. After it failed miserably I said we will purchase a KitchenAid. We purchased our KitchenAid dishwasher in 2014. We Paid for installation also. With it we bought A warranty. After just over two years, the top rack of the dishwasher failed. The top rack will not slide out and we've found metal ball bearings in the dishwasher that we assume are from the side rails. So frustrating... This is standard use and it is crap. When I called to get it repaired I was told that this type of repair is not covered by the extended warranty and the estimate was 2/3rds. The cost of the dishwasher. I was talking to my mom and she told me "Son they will take care of it..." They didn't and I told her "It is not the brand it used to be." The top rack finally completely broke and now we have a bottom rack only. We are so over it and so sad.

A PERFECT machine. I have one in FL and one in NH. FL unit (model number not available now) is plagued with "false starts" but works well and reasonably quiet. It has received 2 service visits and both times the false, short starts have been judged "normal". Strange... BUT it does recover automatically and works very well for 5 years now. My NH unit, model KDFE104DSS0, is a STAR. So quiet that half the time we forget that we turned it on. Love it!

The dishwasher does work quite well. The problem is the racks are garbage. They fall apart easily and are very very costly to repair. All the little bits fall off constantly hit the element and melt and burn. The adjusters on the top rack are very poorly made and quickly become useless. The wheels are the first thing to go. I asked KitchenAid if I can just buy two new racks with all the bits attached. They said no! I would have to buy all the bits and pieces, and yes get the technician in to assemble the whole thing starting at 400.00!!! NIce really nice, so they have you anyway you turn. This will be the second time we have had to replace all the bits of on a 5 year old dishwasher, first time was around 400 bucks so 800 in total to Date. Thinking of cutting my losses and just buying another brand. I think environmentally this is a total shame to toss a good dishwasher out. Shame on KitchenAid. File # **

Opened dishwasher to empty and saw that the dirty water had not emptied out. Had someone check the plug and saw that it had burned and melted. Think it melted into the wall plug also. Since posting the initial review, I was contacted by a KitchenAid engineer who scans online reviews about their dishwashers. I'm happy to say that the dishwasher has now been repaired at no cost to me. Hopefully the replacement rails and adjusters will last longer than the original ones did. I'm very pleased that KitchenAid stepped up to make this right. I've been a loyal customer of KitchenAid and will continue to be in the future. But this is only a great dishwasher if it stands the test of time and that's yet to be seen.

We purchased our KitchenAid dishwasher Model KDTE334DSSO in April of 2014. We paid $895 plus installation for the dishwasher. With it we bought the 48 month extended warranty for $375, which covered 3 KitchenAid appliances that we bought together. After just over two years, the top rack of the dishwasher failed. The top rack will not slide out and we've found metal ball bearings in the dishwasher that we assume are from the side rails. I was told that this type of repair is not covered by the pricey extended warranty and the estimate for parts & labor is approximately $400. Having to pay $400 to repair a 2 yr. old dishwasher with an extended warranty is outrageous! And to add to the frustration, the repair parts are back ordered. Piece of junk! KitchenAid brand isn't what it used to be! Buyers beware!!

We bought this dishwasher a KitchenAid KDTM404ESSO s/n f52302835 last year July 2nd because of the reviews. It was a higher end dishwasher and had great write ups. The dishwasher leaves residue on everything. We called our sales company Home Appliance in Brunswick, Ohio and they told us it is probably clogged. I checked it, it was clear. Called back and they said you are using too much detergent. I asked for a contact number for a rep for KitchenAid and only got the factory phone number.
In March or April the motor quit working. We called and they came out and confirmed it and ordered the motor for a warranty replacement. I told the service man about how it doesn't clean anything completely and he said you can't use Cascade. Cascade is what they recommend in the papers that come with the unit. He recommended some other brand which we bought and it still didn't clean the film off all the dishes.
He came back out and explained that we were stacking the dishes in the dishwasher wrong and that the bottom rows had to be facing each other and took the top silverware tray out for us (you can't fit 12" dishes in with this in, the wash arms hit it). We did a load with him there and they came out cloudy. He said, "Oh, you have to do sani rinse with your wash 'cause the new dishwashers don't use any water". I said, "That's great but then we would be up to almost two and a half hours to do a load". His reply was that is the way the new dishwashers are, meaning live with it. I would understand a lower end dishwasher doing all this stuff, but this was a $1200 plus installation dishwasher. We do not want this unit anymore at all. We made a mistake thinking it would be as good as our KitchenAid mixers and it isn't on the same planet.

My wife and I bought a KitchenAid Dishwasher, Model KDTE334DSS, just about two years ago. The top rack on this appliance is the biggest piece of GARBAGE I've ever seen in an appliance, and has been falling apart since we bought it, and paid close to $1000 with installation and delivery. The entire rack system is supported by chintzy/cheap plastic parts that constantly break. Now the control panel is not working so we can't run it. The repairman tells us the part is $250, without installation, BUT IS ON BACK ORDER WITH NO DATE LISTED FOR AVAILABILITY. To make matters worse, I call KitchenAid and the arrogant response I get is "there's nothing we can do to help you", and when I ask why a part for a two year old appliance is on back order, and if there's a problem, I'm told it's because "it's a popular" dishwasher.
I ask to speak to a supervisor and I'm told "sure" but then get hung up on. KitchenAid products are clearly GARBAGE and KitchenAid employees will treat you like GARBAGE. Reminds me how the US auto industry lost so much consumer confidence. I will NEVER buy any other KitchenAid product and wouldn't shed a tear if they went out of business...

Today I phoned for my 4th service call for this 2 year old KitchenAid dishwasher KUDS30FXSS. It simply doesn't clean the dishes, leaving a food residue on mainly the top rack of dishes. Each time, the serviceman has cleaned out the chopper and pump (beware: there is no removable filter for this model) and it cleans for a few weeks, then we start washing by hand until I can find a time to stay home for another service person to come out to do the same thing. Even though I purchased the 4 year extended warranty, KitchenAid has denied this 4th claim. I have been a loyal KitchenAid customer, and will be replacing this dishwasher with different brand. Unfortunately, this was not our first repair; we needed control board replaced once previously, not to mention the numerous parts we needed to repair the top rack (on more than one occasion the pieces would break off and the plastic would wear out and the rack would not be able to stay within its frame.
I truly believe it is a defective dishwasher and am waiting to participate in a class-action lawsuit once one is created. I cannot recommend this product at all. I have owned this KitchenAid DishWasher mod KUDS301xwh8 for only 3 years and today I find out I need a new motor plus a motherboard. When I called into KitchenAid for the repair scheduling, after I gave them this model number, they immediately offered me a one year warranty deal for more than 350$ which would cover the service call and all costs plus another year on a warranty. I thought that was odd to offer that right out of the gate and right after the model number, SO now I know that this model is a lemon and they have replaced motors on it so they offer this coverage to prevent fights from consumers.
So now I will file an official complaint and request a new dishwasher plus I am canceling the payment of the warranty on my credit card as this is fraud on their part. DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND... I have owned many dishwashers in 50 years of homeownership and never had any of them as much as need a service call in over 14 years of owning them but I never owned a KitchenAid and this one cost me more money than any other brand I ever owned. My husband and I purchased a KitchenAid dishwasher 2 years ago and had our first problem when we opened the dishwasher for the first time. The bracket holding the third shelf was broken. The dishwasher had already been installed so we could not return it without a lot of problem. KitchenAid sent out a technician and he replaced the part. The rack opened with much difficulty but he said he could do nothing about that. Over the next two years the dishwasher had a slow leak that was not detected until we noticed black mold growing over the side and front of our cabinet next to the dishwasher.
We called kitchenAid and they sent another technician who informed us that the leak was a result of the replacement bracket being installed incorrectly. When we again called KitchenAid to rectify the problem that they caused we were informed that it was not their problem and we had to pay for the part as well as a large bill for labour. We are completely dissatisfied with KitchenAid and their total lack of support of their customers. I would never recommend a KitchenAid appliance to anyone.
They do not back their product unless you are willing to pay again and again. As I have noticed on some of the other complaints filed with consumer affairs re: KitchenAid dishwashers, we also have noted a bad smell from the dishwasher if the door has been closed. I was unaware that it was the result of the dishwasher not having a fan motor. What an inferior product it truly is. Had we known we would never have spent so much money to purchase their product.

I too have the issue of an extremely foul odor coming from my dishwasher since day one (I've had it less than a year). I have had 3 service calls per Sears. They have all told me the usual, clean with certain products, run a cycle with vinegar and baking soda, it must be my garbage disposal etc... nothing worked. I finally called KitchenAid directly. They sent one of their service people out to inspect the machine today. He explained that the machine was built without a vent fan. I was not aware that dishwashers had vent fans, but I am also not an appliance mechanic.
He said that I need to leave the door open and run a cycle of vinegar through after each use. So, I need to use double the water and double the electricity to get one load of dishes done. Not to mention, trip over the open door each time I walk into my kitchen. My questions is... if there is no proper ventilation then I have to assume that mold and bacteria will ultimately become a problem (if not already). Why has no one from KitchenAid thought about this? Ultimately, this is a potential health hazard. All this time I think my dishes are "clean" when in fact I am just washing them within a dishwasher full of nasty things that can potentially make my family sick. I'm glad I don't have infants anymore. Can you imagine "sterilizing" baby bottles in this piece of crap?!
I am still working with KitchenAid to resolve the problem. We will see how this goes. I can say for sure that Sears has been awful, no help whatsoever. Customer service very very rude. I will NEVER purchase another appliance from Sears, and after reading all the horrible reviews, I will never buy another KitchenAid. I am also having issues with the top rack. I have to hold it in while I load the bottom rack. Very inconvenient.
Updated 5/30/2016: Just an update to my previous (5/24/2016) post. As I feared, KitchenAid customer service has been no more helpful than Sears customer service. In the meantime, I am writing letters to the CEO of Whirlpool as well as all the board and committee members. Perhaps if others do the same, one of our letters will end up in the hands of someone who cares. If you do a Google search of "CEO of Whirlpool", the leadership page for Whirlpool will come up. Bought a high end KitchenAid dishwasher at a cost of almost 1600.00. The very first time I used it, it leaked large amounts of water onto my new hardwood floor. It arrived with a dent in the front panel. KitchenAid refuses to replace the dishwasher even though it is within their 1-year "warranty" period. They want to send a new "tub" then have the repair technician disassemble this one and rebuild it from the old and new parts. And, because we didn't install it within 30 days of purchase (because our kitchen reno took longer than expected), their "cosmetic warranty" has expired and they won't replace the door without a charge to me. The dent in the door seems to indicate damage to the unit before I ever received it.
The leak of this brand new dishwasher is in no way my fault yet they refuse to replace the unit. If I had known this was their policy, I would have NEVER purchased a KitchenAid. I have a Samsung refrigerator. The delivery people scratched the outside cabinet - Samsung replaced the entire refrigerator with a new one. My mother-in-law, like many people of her generation, swore by the quality of KitchenAid dishwashers. We have always bought them until now. Reading the complaints on the internet it is apparent that these dishwashers were once of high quality, but that this is no longer so. We bought one a little over a year ago to replace a 20 year old trouble free model (without doing any research). As predicted by the complaints on the internet, the top shelf failed within a year. We have had several service calls for other reasons and today we decided to simply pull out the KitchenAid, throw it away, and install a Miele (without great hopes). So, why has KitchenAid become so bad.
The first thing to note is that Whirlpool now owns Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and many other brands due to a purchase in 2008. They are all one company and, in a published peer-reviewed study (you can find it at the National Bureau of Economic Research website), it has been established that prices for dishwashers made by this mega-company increased and the number of models declined. In other words, Whirlpool has virtually no domestic competitors. Your only choice is foreign or domestic. Get used to it. The practical effect is that prices for dishwashers of the same quality have actually increased more than the above study indicates. It is a sad comment on an old American brand.

The repairman said he had Whirlpool training and he would present our issue to the instructor. The instructor told our repairman they would replace the machine.
We have now been notified that they will not replace the machine and are sending a new tub to the repair shop to be replaced in the machine, even though they do not actually know what is wrong. I went to Lowe's and spoke to the assistant manager and he said that we should have called them back and they would have replaced the machine, even though their installer told me to call the Whirlpool warranty people, not Lowe's. And, Lowe's told me that had I bought their extended warranty plan they would replace the machine. But why should I buy an extended warranty when the machine is brand new and has its own warranty. It has been five months now and we still have no dishwasher. Our floor is ruining from the leaked water and no one at Lowe's or Whirlpool cares. I'm just out $600+. My recommendation is: don't buy anything made by Whirlpool; no Kitchenaid, nothing. And buy nothing from Lowe's unless you buy their added warranty.

Purchased KitchenAid dishwasher model: KUDS30CXWH7 in august 2012. I realize that is some time ago. I have been unhappy with this appliance since the first time I used it. The only positive thing I can say is it is more quiet than the previous dishwasher. I have the heavy duty cycle - it is no better than the normal cycle for cleaning pots or pyrex baking dishes. Please understand they are virtually clean when put in the washer yet not thoroughly clean at the end of the cycle. The heat dry cycle dries NOTHING so a dish towel or drying pad must be used daily.
I also find it so odd that an appliance that is supposed to clean must also be cleaned with a special dishwasher soap otherwise it smells like a wet dog. I have had repair people here for a variety of dishwasher complaints - some have been remedied - but generally their comments are that's the way new appliances are. They don't clean thoroughly, they don't dry thoroughly, and they will smell unless you use dishwasher cleaner. An unhappy customer.

KitchenAid Dishwasher Model KUDS30FXSS. As a consumer I am loath to leave a bad reviews, but I have to say I am very disappointed in my dishwasher and in KitchenAid as a company. Within the first year a plastic valve sprang a leak and flooded my floor. A year and a half later the upper rack is broken, and the motor has failed. The failure of the valve and the rack I ascribe to bad design and/or use of substandard materials, but the motor problem is more complicated. The factory service technician wanted to assign blame to me, by suggesting that something hard left on the dishes of a piece of broken glass ruined the motor.
I have been careful with this machine, and always rinsed dishes before putting them in. Before this I had an Asko Cylinda which got me in the habit of pre-rinsing. Over the 12 years I owned that dishwasher I had to call for service two or three times when small particles would get past the filters and obstruct the flow of water to the spray arms. The remedy was simply to remove the obstruction, however. It never required a new motor. The KitchenAid is supposed to have a soft waste disposal built in. One would think that would provide more protection, but, in fact, it not only failed to prevent a particle from getting in the system but there was nothing to keep it from destroying the motor once it got in. That suggests bad design to me.
Secondarily, I have an issue with KitchenAid itself. At every turn the company pretends that customer satisfaction is primary. Their people are always polite, but they are just the velvet glove that hides the iron fist. But the bottom line, in my experience with the company, is that its strict and narrow policies mostly let them off the hook and out of responsibility when something goes wrong. Their service personnel express sympathy but tell you they are bound by policy. Of course, they are KitchenAid's people, and KitchenAid makes the rules that make it difficult for the technicians to do right by the consumer. A company that values repeat business (I bought a KA refrigerator from the same designer series first) should barricade itself behind its rules only in the most flagrant cases of consumer negligence or abuse.
I paid over $900 dollars for what I thought was a best-quality, USA-made product that would last and had an excellent company name behind it. I used it regularly and took good care of it. A year and a half later, the company will only fix half of what's now wrong with it, and informs me I am responsible for replacing the motor at a cost of $450. For that much money I could buy a Maytag (also made by Whirlpool) or I could triple that amount and get another Asko or a Bosch. Certainly, I will never trust KitchenAid again.

Needed a new computer - of course the part was under warranty (five year) but the service call and labor were not. Spent $155.00 to have the part replaced. I also had to replace the upper rack after approx. 1 1/2 years. I've had cheaper brands that have lasted longer without repair so next time I know better - I'll stick to the lower end brands as there seems to be no difference in the quality anymore. Disappointed!!!

Purchased a KitchenAid dishwasher July, 2011 from ABT model# KUDS30IXBL (manufactured 2010). Beginning January, 2015 it would occasionally drain and shut down, mid wash cycle. I thought I had done something wrong. But it continued and finally did it every time it was used. The dishwasher is only used twice a week. On 4/18/2015 ABT serviced replacing the Electronic Control Panel (under warranty). Service call labor cost $164.00. On 4/8/16 while the dishwasher was in use, loud sounds like fireworks (identified as electrical arcing) came from the dishwasher and clouds of black smoke came from the top of the door, with strong burning plastic choking fumes. We turned the circuit breaker off, to prevent any further risk of damage to the kitchen or house.
Called ABT for service and found out since the Electrical Control Panel had already been replaced once there would be a charge of $186.09 for a replacement of the Panel plus $164.00 for the service call/labor cost, plus charges for any other parts needed. We then called a local service company, that we know and trust. Their service call charge is $60.00 and they took the front door off and there was the burnt control panel and the wire harness. The service tech was astonished at the damage. His quote of $450.00 which included replacement of the wire harness and electronic control panel (which we were told the only electronic control panels available were refurbished).
I'm writing this so others can be aware of the fire hazard this dishwasher is. Very scary! If you have this model you may be better off getting rid of it. Fortunately, we never run our appliance while we are out of the house or while we are sleeping, but there may oQ2thers that do. I never had an appliance do this before and I have had a 4 houses over 47 years.

March 10, 2016 we bought a Kitchen Aid dishwasher from Home Depot. The earliest they could install was March 15. The installers stated the hole was too tall and we needed to remove the tile to shorten it; yes there was a dishwasher in the hole so why couldn’t this one fit? March 23 the second installer arrived, opened the dishwasher and said "Your gasket is damaged. You need a new gasket." The gasket around the dishwasher had a large hole and a tear. After many phone calls and much discussion Home Depot stated the dishwasher would be replaced by Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool this week. During all this nonsense, starting March 10, we stated repeatedly we are having 40 people in our home on April 2, we must have this installed. "Of course, no problem, you will have a dishwasher before April 2."
March 31 arrives, no dishwasher. A representative came out to check that the dishwasher was really damaged. We call Kitchen Aid and speak to a manager, “oh well we just got notified of this on 3/29 there is no way we can get it to you this week.” I assume this is not true because to get the dishwasher replaced the permission had to come from Kitchen Aid March 23. Needless to say after many, many phone calls and 3 service calls I still do not have a dishwasher. Buy from Home Depot & Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool at your own risk.

I purchased my KitchenAid dishwasher from hhgregg in January of 2011. I purchased model KUDS30IXSS. I also purchased a 5 year warranty for the dishwasher. The first time I called for service for the dishwasher was for the top rack in the dishwasher. The rack was broken and needed to be replaced. The rack was not covered and I had to pay nearly a $100 for the part. The next time I called for service the pump was broken on the dishwasher. This part was covered by the warranty on the dishwasher. The next time I called for service the grinder was broken on the dishwasher. The next time the dishwasher stopped working because a fuse blew on the dishwasher. The last time the dishwasher stopped working was in October of 2015.
In October I was told that two pumps were not working, the circuit board was replaced, and the control board on the front of the dishwasher was replaced. Today 3/31/16, my husband informed me that there is water in the bottom of the dishwasher again and he cannot get it to turn on. None of the lights light up again and furthermore since the control board is melted he is afraid it is going to burn our house down. We just want it out of our house. I called hhgregg and they are of no help. I did not renew the warranty this time because they wanted $700 to renew the contract. I could purchase a new dishwasher for $700 and believe me, it would never, ever be another KITCHENAID product.
I am so very, very disappointed with this product. The repairman told me when he was here in November that because the dishwasher is 5 years old they would only offer us half what we paid for the dishwasher. At this point I do not know if I want another dishwasher. It is only my husband and me. We eat out for dinner almost every night anyway. Why go through this aggravation? What has happened to pride in American workmanship? My husband owns his own business. If his job performance was like this, he would be out of business tomorrow! Shame on you KitchenAid! I trusted in a product I had purchased 25 years ago! My sister-in-law is having the same problems and sadly, I recommended she purchase KitchenAid! I will not be recommending that anyone buy this brand again. We are building a new home and we will be researching appliances before we buy...but it won't be KITCHENAID!

I replaced the main controller along with the optical sensor and still the same. Also on checking for faults I get a (1) light flash yet nobody knows what that means. In the last month I have also had sour smell I have been fighting and just now found the problem. The water strainer that I clean once a month has a dome in its center and this dome catches air and I found black mold/bacteria. My fix it to drill small holes thru the grid just at the water level line and one hole in its top or center dome to let air/water rinse this area on each cycle. It should also be noted that the heater in this unit heats everything to the point of sterilization. You can actually smell the clean when the dishes come out.
This dishwasher had the adjustable top rack so cleaning large items in the bottom was very easing. It also had extra large capacity so it took a lot of dishes to fill it. Stainless steel, and hidden controls were very nice. The large, rounded, stainless door handle was the only protrusion from under the counter so it blended well into the cabinetry. We are requesting that KitchenAid stand behind its products and repair or replace our nonworking dishwasher for no charge to the buyer.
We purchased a floor model for $931.54 including $100 installation and were informed by Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home that this dishwasher was brand new and in perfect working condition. This dishwasher was installed in a two person household and has been used less than 50 times since the purchase date. The correct detergent and rinse aid have always been used and the filters have always been kept clean.
This dishwasher has never cleaned the dishes properly and stopped working all together on September 9, 2014. We contacted Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home to request a service repair and they instructed us to contact KitchenAid directly. It was then we were informed by your company that the dishwasher we purchased was actually four years old and had gone through two previous owners. We contacted Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home and they said this was not true and that they would handle the service repair themselves at no charge to the buyer. We told them that we did not believe them and that we wanted a brand new replacement dishwasher immediately. They would not comply and only offered to make the necessary repairs. So, with great hesitation, we agreed and they replaced the broken main board, which allowed the dishwasher to function, but still not up to par.
Then in November of 2015, the dishwasher stopped working altogether once again. The dishes actually run through the entire cycle now, but they are dirtier than when they went in. The water appears to be lukewarm only during the wash cycle and the rinse dispenser does not function properly. It has read full for over a year now without adding any additional rinse aid. Furthermore, the soap dispenser appears to not always open during the wash cycle as well.
We spent $931.54 on a KitchenAid Dishwasher less than two years ago and as of today, we do NOT have a working dishwasher. Again, we are requesting that KitchenAid stand behind its products and repair or replace our nonworking dishwasher for no charge to the buyer or we will be forced to take further action at this point. Thank you.

In December, 2013, I purchased a replacement dishwasher for my then 20 year old KitchenAid. Shortly after it was installed, we discovered that the handle was improperly attached and one end stuck out, catching on clothes and tearing them. KitchenAid informed me, "That was just the way it was on some units." I found that unsatisfactory, so they sent a technician out who basically did nothing. I called the retailer, who replaced the unit completely with a new dishwasher within a couple of weeks.
The new unit was installed in January, 2014. It came with a one year manufacturer's warranty, and I purchased an extended warranty good through 2019. Since we are at our second home much of the time, and use this dishwasher twice weekly on average, we thought we would be safe with the new unit, which had a properly installed handle, by the way. No such luck. Shortly before Thanksgiving, 2015, while the unit was less than two years old, the top pull-out drawer fell down, landing on the dishes below. We removed the top drawer/pull out unit, and tried running it without the top drawer, but no luck.
The unit would not operate without the top drawer. I called the warranty company, Bankers Insurance. They don't cover mechanical parts, I was told. So I called KitchenAid, and the wait was so long I was directed to their website, where I was instructed to enter my zip code to find a service technician. So I did, and the results? NO SERVICE in my area... impossible to believe, with over a million people in my greater metro area! Nonetheless, I contacted the retailer, who gave me the name of a service company. Their technician came out today, took one look, and said that the problem was a repetitive one, a defective part that KitchenAid was replacing with metal parts. No more plastic -- they had so many issues with this part that they were in most cases repairing the defective parts at no charge. That of course, was not my luck when I called KitchenAid. Nope, no replacement. "We are not showing any problems with that model!" Exact words.
Not their problem! But they would be happy to direct my call to the parts department where I could order the parts, and pay for them, of course. I spent over a thousand dollars on this dishwasher, it gets light use, is less than two years old, and it won't run without a cheap plastic pull out part that will cost me well in excess of $200 to replace, because they only sell the entire mechanism. My biggest regret? I specified KitchenAid for my dishwasher in my second home. Trust me, they are not what they used to be, nor is their customer service department.

The "new" dishwasher has now stopped working for the 5th time. The first time was under warranty but the fuse was not covered - of course. Then it was the latches, and then it was the wiring which was fixed two months before. We have spent about what it cost to purchase it in the first place. KitchenAid has been no help. I was told by one of the service people never to buy this brand nor Whirlpool nor Maytag. I am attempting to get my last service payment refunded and will go out today to buy another dishwasher - not KitchenAid!

I have a 4-5 year-old KitchenAid Dishwasher. It leaked badly on the kitchen floor the day before Thanksgiving. I could see underneath that the drain pump and motor was lying on the floor. It had fallen off its mount and was barely hanging by its rubber hose connected to the drain sump. I pulled the machine out from under the counter and turned it on its side to investigate the problem. I found that the 2-inch hose that connects the pump to the dishwasher sump was cracked from holding the weight of the pump and motor.
Call to the tech dept at KitchenAid to get a new hose. Tech could not find a part number to get the little hose. Said he would email the info in a few days. This rubber hose is about 2 inches long with a one-inch opening on one end and about 1.25 inch opening on the other. It attaches with two simple hose clamps. Several days later I received an email stating that the hose was not available for purchase, as it only comes on a motor/pump assembly which will cost me $264. All I need is a little rubber hose. This is a serious RIPOFF.

I have a 4 year old Kitchenaid Dishwasher. We spent over $1,000 for it thinking we were investing in a very nice, long lasting machine. After a year, the right clip on the top rack broke and needed to be repaired by a technician. 6 months later the other side broke and we needed another service call. In the last few weeks, all 8 wheels have fallen off the bottom rack. We run the dishwasher about once every three days. I spoke to Kitchenaid customer service this morning via their online chat. The service representative admitted that there were so many complaints about my model that it should have been recalled. She said there was nothing she could do for me. I called and spoke to a customer service representative and their supervisor and they both refused to provide the replacement parts. My model is KUDE 40FXSP3. We compared different brands of dishwashers and kitchenAid had one of the best reviews. As soon as we installed and started it we got a flood in the kitchen. It turned out that the dishwasher had a defective part. It took 2 weeks for a technician crew to arrive and change the part. Right after the service call took place we were called to purchase an extended warranty. We didn't think it was necessary - after all a dishwasher that would break after a year of usage is really not a good one. Guess what? Our dishwasher broke again and this time it has been 1.5 year since we purchased it so we have no guarantee. We will not buy this brand again. It's better to take a chance with a cheaper brand!

I renovated my kitchen a year ago. I insisted on two KitchenAid dishwashers as I had had great success with them in the past (still own an older model that I love). A month after installation, I called for service because the dishes were not drying and the wash cycle was taking 4.5 hours. First technician told me I need to use particular detergent and rinse product. This did not fix the problems. Second technician told me the same and reconfirmed that these new machines don't dry like the older ones did. What happened to the HEATING ELEMENT everyone mentions that dries the dishes? Third technician told me not to use SANI RINSE. This reduced the cycle time from 4.5 to 4 hours. Fourth technician (2) told me that it needed a part, so I made an appointment to have that part installed.
On the day of the appointment, the fourth technician did not show and instead, his service manager came to inform me that no parts would be installed. He said I need to run the hot water in the sink adjacent to the machine before using and that this is just how the new machines are made. I pointed out that my hot water heater is about 20 feet away from the sink, so hot water is not an issue. I then had him hold his hand under the faucet to show how fast hot water comes to this area. Took all of 2-3 seconds.
He was very insistent that this is just the new machines being made and there is nothing he can do about it or fix it. Did not even try. I am appalled at KitchenAid, their products and high costs (each of my 2 identical machines cost almost $2000), their warranties (and extended warranties paid for, I remind you), the manner with which they casually dismiss their consumers. No loyalty to long time customers. If I had it to do over, I would stay far away from KitchenAid. Maybe we can get Arnold Diaz involved?

9/24/2015 KitchenAid repairman came and confirmed that electronic control was bad and needed replacement. He subsequent, 9/28/2015 returned and replaced electronic control and then confirmed that "user interface" was bad and needed replacement however, that was not covered under the warranty because, even though it is the electronic interface between the user and the electronic control, it was not considered an electronic control. My opinion is that seeing as it is a set of electronic pressure switches, connected to the electronic control by wires, it is an electronic control.

My thinking is that if they do not have the right people, process and engineering sense to add .05 to the cost of key parts in a dishwasher that would allow it to endure at least an average life without breaking, then why should I trust that they would have skills and sense to make the rest of the unit last an average life. The motor needs to be replaced, which will take a week to get here. On the plus side, Platinum Factory Service was courteous and efficient, and sent a repairman to do the diagnostic within 48 hours.

Re: KitchenAid dishwasher model KUDE20IXSS8, serial # F22604005. In September 2012 my wife and I purchased a KitchenAid dishwasher (referenced above) that can only be described as a lemon. Here are the reasons: Within a month of purchase, the drain pump needed to be replaced. Less than a year later, the touchpad and left-side top-rack support had to be replaced (the touchpad was under warranty, but not the rack support or labor). Total charge: $193.78.
Eight months later the top rack had come loose again. Total charge: $182.60. Just two months after that the machine sprung a bad leak -- the motor and pump assembly had to be replaced. Total bill: $399.00. Exactly one year later the top-rack roller needs replacing. The service technician's estimate: $275.00. In less than three years of ownership, our overall repair bill adds up to $1,050.38. That's just $71.66 short of what we originally paid for the machine, installation and sales tax included! But we have decided not to make that final repair. This machine is clearly a losing proposition. Instead, we'll save our money toward buying a new machine of another brand.

Had a new KitchenAid dishwasher installed a little over 5 years ago. Noticed about 6 months ago that the top racked dishes were not getting cleaned. Then about 2 months ago noticed the bottom rack is starting to rust out. Called KitchenAid customer service today 6/23/15, gave them the model number and was told that it was just over 5 years old and it only comes with a 5-year warranty and they would NOT do anything (including discount parts) to correct this. Needless to say I WOULD NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING from this company again. I will be going out of my way to review this company whenever given a chance.

They now have to remove it and take it to the repair shop.
The wall oven KEMS309 convection oven failed in just a few months. The fan bushing failed making the oven sound like a helicopter was landing in the kitchen. Wish I had never purchased KitchenAid appliance. Beware. We have a double confection oven, induction cook top, dishwasher, microwave and fridge...all of them are junk. Oven door was broken right out of the box. Took about 1 month to get a new one and it doesn't work like they advertise that is for SURE. Dishwasher blew the hoses, ruined my kitchen floor and ceiling in the basement. Service man came and said "oh yes we know that is a faulty clamp," fixed it and put a huge scrape in my hardwood floor.
Fridge blew the hose to the ice maker, again my hardwood floor and ceiling in the basement service guy came out. "Oh yes we have a fix for that...it is a faulty piece." Microwave just stopped working, service guy had no idea and wanted us to uninstall it so he could take it with him (it is an over the range hood microwave and weighs about 200 lbs) but he managed to get it working.
Induction cook top blew up, smoke and all 1 year to the day of installation (but it wasn't covered because the appliances got delivered before they were installed) had to have a huge argument with "customer service" that the warranty was 2 years on major components. They said it was not a major component even though the cost of the new board was $800.00. They finally agreed to cover it. Was without a stove for several weeks. Then the dishwasher went again. My hardwood and basement ceiling all water damaged again.
This time the water blew the board in the dishwasher. Over 1 month to get the parts just got it fixed 2 weeks ago. Then last week the Microwave stopped working again...still waiting for service. This was my dream kitchen that has turned into a nightmare. Every time I need service I need to take a day off work. I have replaced my ceiling tiles 3 times in the basement, my kitchen floor is warped and gouged and you know what they told me? "That is not our problem take it up with your house insurance!"

KitchenAid needs to do a recall on this dishwasher. We have required repair to the top rack tracks on the left and right sides! The circular piece on the track that pops into the dishwasher rack keeps breaking. I am now going online to find replacement parts to (temporarily!!!) fix it myself. When I asked the repairmen who covers KitchenAid warrantees about the rack, he said he had not seen problems so I showed him the hundreds of comments and reviews from people who hate this dishwasher for this very reason. KitchenAid does not care and they can forget this customer forever.

We purchased a KitchenAid dishwasher (model # KUDS30IXSS4) about 3 1/2 years ago when we remodeled the kitchen. The plastic clips that held the upper rack in place broke 2 different times... This was shortly after the warranty expired so I paid both times for the repair. KitchenAid did finally replace this plastic clip with a metal clip on all of their dishwashers but they called it an "upgrade" and not a "recall" so they did not reimburse me for the almost $300.00 I had spent on previously repairing the faulty clips. Shortly after the plastic clips had broken the second time the dishwasher made a funny noise. I shut the washer off and then restarted it... Upon restarting it...it seemed fine...
However, shortly after this it stopped cleaning the dishes...This was right in the interim when KitchenAid replaced the plastic clip and went to the metal. What we did not realize is that pieces of the broken plastic went down into the "chopper/grinder" and broke that section of the dishwasher. When the repair man finally realized what had happened we called KitchenAid. I asked KitchenAid to step up and take responsibility for the faulty design and they declined saying that there was not enough evidence/proof that it was faulty design. Needless to say I will never purchase another KitchenAid/Whirlpool product only because they will not step up and take responsibility for their product. Final note...this new repair will cost another $300.00.

3-1/2 year old dishwasher started failing to clean top rack about 6 months ago. Two days ago it completely stopped working. Repairman stated can't be fixed. Turns out wiring burnt (we did not abuse the product). I was concerned over burnt be charred looking wiring so called KitchenAid. It is out of warranty and was not calling them to replace it but out of concern of defect and a fire. After being put on hold for 10 minutes rep came back on line and suddenly knew all about how that happens to all appliances when the control board fails and suddenly remembered it had happened to her. No big deal attitude that it only lasted 3-1/2 years. Hung up as a never again KitchenAid customer. Wish I had researched the company 4 years ago.

We purchased the KitchenAid Dishwasher with built-in water softener not last summer, but the previous one (less than 2 years ago). A few weeks ago, we were sitting in our family room when we noticed acrid smoke pouring out of the dishwasher, and an electrical "popping" noise (shorting). We ran and turned off the power at the breaker box. Sure enough, the control panel was smoking and completely dead. Thankfully, we were in the next room in our open concept home or this could have turned into a major fire. We paid almost $1000 for this dishwasher, hoping that the better model & water softener would mean it would last longer. Do NOT buy this dishwasher as it is UNSAFE to have in your home. We walked away from the Whirlpool brand over this, after many years of brand loyalty to Whirlpool and its family of brands.

Ok, so for the 2nd time in less than 3 years, the wheel clips on the top wash basket broke, which in turn makes the basket fall down and the washer inoperable. For the price I paid for this dishwasher I will tell you that I was a little more than miffed. The last time it happened, I called my home insurance company out because I did not have the time to deal with the washer (that cost me $70). This time I went online to see about ordering parts. I found this site (and after reading through numerous comments) I have to say that I am extremely disappointed in KitchenAid, especially when I see so many people experiencing the same problem as me. This is obviously a design flaw that needs fixing.
So, why did I give them a rating of three? Because upon calling the company to lodge a complaint, I talked with a VERY nice, young lady who worked with me to figure out exactly which part I needed. No stalling, no dodging, she took care of business, put my parts on order and all with no charge to me. Her professionalism is the reason why I gave this a 3 star rating. I have found from experience that when a company has a problem with a product, if you call them (and stay courteous) 9 out of 10 times they will do what it takes to make it right. The lady I talked to was named ** and I am hoping that her supervisor sees this email. Again, thank you ** for your help and professionalism. Semper Fidelis.
Updated on June 13, 2015: To be fair to KitchenAid, I am following up from a post I made on June 6th. My parts for the top rack wheel assembly arrived and I just finished installing them. I am happy to see that they have modified the wheel assembly actually using a metal plate this time and it looks like more solid connections for the wheels. I will give them a four star for now as I wait to see how well this modification holds up. Thank you KitchenAid for getting the parts to me in a timely manner. Semper Fi **.

To get the film "off" your dishes, put three cups of white vinegar in the bottom of your dishwasher and put your dishwasher soap in as usual on run your cycle. The best brand out there to help get rid of hard water spots on the glassware is Finish Brand Quantum tablets.

We built a brand new house in 2011/12. New house means all new appliances. Our KUDS30IXSS6 from Sears seemed like a great product at first. So quiet you sometimes didn't even realize it was on. But then the wheels of the top rack broke off one by one. I realized my brand new Hickory floor boards were beginning to warp - the leak apparently inviting a colony of ANTS to live under my dishwasher!!! And the control panel would stop working from time to time, only to magically start working again after a week or two - just as I was about to call in a repairman. Well it has stopped working again and after reading countless stories of people with the same exact experiences as mine, I'm not going to waste my money getting it fixed because according to the reports of others it will only happen again and again. This dishwasher is only 3 years old!! Within the first few months the problems started. A $900+ dishwasher that is worth nothing but a headache.

Owned this dishwasher (KDTO104SS) for 8 months. It replaced a Bosch. Gradual decline in performance for last month. Did the hard restart, worked for one cycle. Requested warranty service, waited one week for repairman, he ordered new part, waited another week for him to return. He then said another part had to be ordered, refused to overnight as he is only paid once for warranty service and only came once a week to this city. Then he indicated that the control unit was shorted as insects had gotten inside. We have professional pest control and have never seen those insects. They were, in fact, inside the controller. This must be a design flaw, as there isn't a place in the country where some insects do not reside.
We have previously dishwasher for more than a decade with no problem. The manufacturer indicated there is no recourse. We bought this as it was made in this country and had good performance. The seller is working with us to get another appliance, but we will NEVER buy a KitchenAid again.

It stops working after about 10 min., then you have to push a few buttons and then it works for about 10 more min. until it stops again, and then finally you have to start the whole cycle over and then it will complete. It's like washing dishes twice! It takes about 2-3 hours for a complete cycle. Also there is a smell that is terrible and after trying dishwashing cleaners, it still smells. Finally, every few months I've had to take the whole thing apart to clean out the filter area to try to rid the smell. I've never had so much trouble with a dishwasher!!!! KitchenAid Dishwasher KUDE70FXSS5 - Control Panel being replaced for the third time. Pump possibly being replaced for the second time. Dishwasher is under two years old and has had gentle use. I bought $14k worth of KA appliances at once and have had the repairman out here at least 6 times in under two years. Called KitchenAid directly after paying $65 for diagnostic from A&E through Sears. Let them know that I had done my research here and that I was one of many with this expensive issue. They offered to pay for parts only. I advised them that I would be hitting "reply" to everyone here and putting together a class action lawsuit if they did not fix this problem. They then offered a one-time repair including all parts and labor on the control panel and pump and they are sending a repairman out tomorrow to look at it and order the parts.
I advised the CS agent that I would write my review to reflect that they are covering the repairs this time, so here is my review; however, although I am very appreciative of the repair being covered, I will never spend another dime on a KA appliance unless they seriously change their product. The last appliances that I had (which were much much cheaper) lasted at least 15 years and were still working when I remodeled my kitchen two years ago. At $14k, they should last 20 years or more. So my advice to anyone reading this is to not back down.

I previously had a Fisher Paykel drawer system and while it had some issues, it still cleaned my dishes and I was pretty happy with it. The kitchenaid simply doesn't clean! I have to basically wash everything before putting it in. The repair man suggested using high heat and power scrub. The only thing that did is bake on items to silverware and melt the cheap plastic holders on the upper rack and the ones that aren't' melted just fall off over and over. So, so, so disappointed! Our first problem was that the plastic wheels on the top rack broke and it would not stay up. We had a repairman come and replace them. Less than year later they broke again. We were being very careful with the rack so it is not from being rough with it. They are made of very weak plastic and are not holding up to moderate use. Now the dishes are not being cleaned at all. We suspect that the upper arm is not working so everything on the top rack comes out dirty. To compound the problem, the dirt is now cemented on because of the drying cycle. That factor makes those dishes very hard to hand wash after being in the dishwasher. The dishwasher is just over two years old and is useless. We chose KitchenAid because we thought we were moving up to higher quality. It is so much poorer than our 12-year old dishwasher we replaced.
