Not long after the warranty ran out, the front door started leaking. I called the appliance repairman and they had to replace some type of door seal. Labor and materials was around $250.00. Now, 6 months later, it is pouring water like a seal. I will have to spend another $250.00, I assume. I will never ever buy another Front Load Washer Model 796.4027 from Sears. We purchased the set with the dryer. The dryer is gas and works great.

I purchased a Kenmore 600 topload washer in 12/09. I was satisfied with its performance, but it only lasted 2 years. The springs became weak, and when the spin cycle ended, it banged, and cracked the outer tub. Repairs will cost almost as much as buying a new one. I spent considerable time researching consumer reviews and wanting an American-made product, and spent considerable money thinking the investment would last several years. It is sad that even American-made products are built to last until just after the warranty expires. The repairman didn't think these parts are even covered in the warranty. I can't afford another washer, and when I do, it won't be a Kenmore.

I bought a front loading Kenmore model 40412 in Sept 2010 for $736. This is March 2012. Spin cycle makes noise as loud as an airplane and clothes come out stained with grease. Service tech just estimated over $1,100 to replace tub bearing and door seal. How does that make any sense or is justifiable? No more Sears/Kenmore for us!

I purchased a new top of the line Kenmore Elite front load washer and dryer. After four months of use, we noticed that there was a foul smell coming from the inside of the washer. Using bleach with the washer set on the clean cycle, we would attempt to rid the washer of this horrid smell at least once every three days.

After a month of stinking clothes, we returned to the Sears store where we purchased these units and were told that all Sears front load washers mildew and that we could purchase chlorine tablets and use in place of the bleach. We were also told that what we were experiencing was nothing new, that this problem plagued this type of washers. I was never warned by the salesperson at Sears that in six months, every load of clothes would stink to high heaven! Sears knew about this problem prior to selling me this faulty unit which is now one year old. They should replace it or give me back a depreciated value.

I bought a new Kenmore washer two months ago and I have never been so aggravated with a washer in all my life. My clothes are not being cleaned and there is never enough water to rinse them. I have to wait 40 minutes for the load to wash them and then re-rinse them on the rinse cycle. I am asking how this can save me time and money? I had a plain Kenmore washer (no bells and whistles) that lasted me 18 years and finally quit. How I would love to have it back. This new washer will never be the washer my old one was. I am planning to contact the dealer and return it. Too bad I did not read all the bad reviews before I purchased this machine. I would like to know why we, the consumers, have to throw away hard-earned money for products that do not work? I will not ever purchase another Kenmore washer.

I contacted Sears repair and set up an appointment to have my Kenmore washing machine repaired. I took time off from work and waited all day for them. No show. I was mad, but rescheduled. Second appointment, they came and I was thrilled. I was told that I needed an expensive part and paid $360.67 for the repair. As soon as the repairman left, I started my washing machine to find that it was still broken! I immediately contacted repair and was told that someone would come out that weekend (it was a Friday). Guess what... no one came! I then scheduled one last appointment, guess what... no one came again!

I am now done with taking time off work and waiting for repair. I have started a billing dispute and want my money back. Sears says I can schedule another appointment and they will come and take their part out. Uh... then I want my old part back! The part they took out was not broken... something else is! This is ridiculous and Sears needs to refund us for the part/appointment and compensate us for all of the time we have missed off work and all of this time without a washing machine. We have been long time Sears customers and Sears credit customers, this is how they treat their customers.

The washer quit draining and shows F51 and F34 codes. Following the trouble shooting info the company tried to hide from the customers inside, the washer showed the machine control board needed to be replaced. A quick internet search showed hundreds of complaints about the same thing. A recall was set up for some washers, but many others with the same problem are not included in it. If someone pays for a top end product, they should not receive a poorly designed/built pile of junk. This washer should be sold for $100 at Wal-Mart, and even then it might not be a good deal.

Just a little frustrating like getting off balance multiple times during each wash, even if I carefully place the clothes around the sides. It is perfectly level also. The sensor of the dryer quit years ago. I can't leave the washer and dryer on without being in the house to try to fix the problem when it occurs, or to check the clothes, to see if they are dry. The pair cost me $1,948.92 in 2006. I had just retired, and hoped this pair would last. I want to be reimbursed, so I can purchase a different pair. I wouldn't even feel honest, if I give them to goodwill.

I tried to talk to the repairman and in his words, "Lady, anything you buy nowadays is junk." He even told me that whoever I called and complained about my problem, they don't want to hear it, so they tell you to talk to the repairman about it to "get the monkey off their back." Kenmore Model 796.4027. It is rated as best buy by Consumer Reports. However, it has a serious design flaw. The valves close much too quickly causing massive water hammer. None of our other washers had this problem. Their solution, install new anti-water hammer devices. **. This is a design flaw in these machines. Wikipedia has a very nice treatment of what causes water hammer. I also spent a good bit of time in Engineering School studying hydraulics and this is a classic case. The valve is closing much too rapidly. The solenoid that actuates the valves needs to be redesigned. It shouldn't be hard, other washer manufacturers seem to have figured it out.

The service was prompt and courteous. He explained that this was a very common problem with newer washers. However, since nothing was replaced Kenmore/LG won't track this as the design flaw that it is. I suspect that the manufacturer actually knows about the issue but doesn't want to resolve it due to cost implications. What a lousy way to do business.

I had to pay $129.00 for a repairman to take the bottom section below the door and unscrew a 3" round end off and clean out a trap that if in the book, I could have done myself. This should be included in the care of the washers to be checked once a year. This is just another way for them to take advantage of the consumer. We have a Kenmore Elite Smart Wash Quietpak 4 model 11049962603 that we bought in 08/2009 with a 2-year warranty. It is now 11/2011. The machine was replacing a 30 yr. old Maytag that still worked. Our 30 yr. old dryer had died and we thought we would buy a new energy saving set. We were sorry we did. The Maytag would probably still be working. The washer just stopped working the other day. We called Sears Repair to fix it (that's where we got it from). The repair guy came out and said the motor board needed to be replaced. He quoted us $671.13 to repair it. We paid $863.99 plus taxes for the machine (see the problem here?). We refused service at this time, because we wanted to see if something could be done about the costs. In my opinion, we would be better off getting another new machine that doesn't have 2 years of wear and tear on it (we are out $129 for the service call already).

I called their 800 number to see if anything could be done. Yes, this is outsourced. I wish they would give the jobs to Americans. We need all the jobs we can get. Well, as with many others, I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do except sell me a 1-year extended warranty for $319.99. It would cover the cost of the repair guy, any parts and labor up to $500. If we take this route, we will be out $129 for the original service call, $319.99 for the warranty, and $171.13 for the costs above $500. The grand total is $620.12 (not much savings here). I called the Escalation Department at 800-376-0557 (at least, I got an American this time). Again, I was told there was nothing they could do since the warranty expired 3 months ago on my 2-year-old machine.

The entire time I questioned them all on the price of the part to fix our machine. The repair guy wanted to charge us $503 for the part. On the Sears website, the part is going for $372.70. I asked everyone why such a big difference in the price to no avail. I was told, "I don't know anything about the website.” Or, I was told, "The repair people and the website each charge their own prices.” I was told by the repair guy that if we picked up the part ourselves, he would install it for another $129 for the call. The grand total here is $501.70 plus the $129 for the original service call. Well, if you are going to gouge customers for not only the service call but also on the parts, I am taking my business elsewhere because of the principle of it all. My husband searched the part out at other places online and we found we could pick the part up starting at $142 for a refurbish and around $225ish for new (we may fix it ourselves).

I bought this washer 6 years ago. It has worked just fine until about 6 months ago. Suddenly, it started taking longer and longer to finish the cycle. Then, occasionally, it wouldn't spin the clothes and I would have to run the separate drain and spin cycle. Then, it suddenly wouldn't even do that. I called Sears. My intention was to find out what it would cost (because it was out of warranty) to replace the brain, including the labor and repair call. Instead of giving me the quote I asked for, she convinced me to buy a 1-year service policy for somewhere around $350.00 explaining that if it was the brain, it would be considerably more than that.

Then, came the clincher. If they couldn't repair it, I would be given a voucher toward a new machine. Sign me up! Guess what? Not. They came out and put in a new brain (this took a total of 4 weeks), then 2 weeks later it started the whole cycle again, only quickly this time moving into not spinning at all. I called for another repair order. They couldn't get me in for another week and a half. In the meantime, I kept working with the washer trying different cycles and stuff until I got it working again. Guess what? Now, since it won't malfunction in front of them, they have deemed it my fault! According to them, it's because I'm running unbalanced loads and using too much soap!

After 6 years of successfully using this machine, apparently, I've lost my mind! I am so frustrated I could spit! So, my solution is that I will call them each and every time it fails, and make them come out until my 1 year is up. Then, I will buy a new machine and it will not be from Sears! I'm closing my account with them and after 30 years of being a customer, I'm done!

Both times, the part has been back ordered and Sears has called the day before our appointment to "reschedule". In both cases, they put the situation in our hands to track the part and then call them "once we have the part in hand" to not waste their time. What about our time? Each occurrence has lasted a month. This means the washer has only been in use 8 of the 10 months we have had it. I think they were trying to draw out the time so it falls out of warranty.

The customer service department "term used loosely" is extremely rude. This is an outsourcing issue as there is no culpability with the product or support. The customer service person had the gall to indicate that if we feel that strongly about how bad the product is, "to write the CEO". This is actually not a bad idea, though it will be intercepted long before reaching the intended source. Once the warranty fails, we are tempted to use the National Tire & Battery plan with Sears. Anyone that has seen the commercial, understands to throw the product through the plate glass window. Then, we will get a new washer that will not be a Kenmore (actually, a re-branded LG). Koreans.

On July 25, 2011, I first called Sears to report that my Kenmore Elite H5t washing machine was not working. The error code was an F35, which means the overflow switch needed to be replaced. An appointment was scheduled for August 3, 2011. My daughter sat home for hours waiting for the tech to arrive, which they never did. They claimed that they called both my home and cell. No such calls were placed, as I have caller ID at home and my cell identifies the phone number. When asked why they never showed up, I was told by Sears Service that the appointment that I received was a "forced" appointment not a "saved". I was a bit taken back by their answer. Wow! I had no idea that an appt took on a totally whole new meaning; where was I when this took place.

Anyhow, I had to reschedule another appt for August 10, 2011 and made sure I requested a "saved" appt this time. I further told Sears Service that there was not only an F35 code but now an F20 code as well, which means an inflow water restrictions. I told Sears that there was no water restriction into the machine nor was there a drop in water pressure. When the Sears Tech arrived on August 10, 2011, he replaced the overflow switch and told my daughter that the machine was fixed. Yet, when I attempted to do a load of wash on August 12, 2011, the machine was showing the F20 again. I called Sears Service again and told them that the Sears Tech never fixed the problem with the F20 on August 10, 2011. Sears Service informed me that there were no notes on my file of the Tech performing a diagnostic test, in which he should have done to determine what was causing the F20 code. So I had to schedule another appt for August 22, 2011. Mind you, I made sure I asked if this appt was a "saved" or "forced" appt. I was now told by Sears Service that they had away with the "forced" appt sometime in the beginning of August 2011. I was like this is unbelievable. When the Sears Tech (Jeff-excellent tech) arrived on August 22, 2011, I told him that I believed that it was the PC Board that needed to be replaced because the display panel was showing all sorts of characters and shapes. He did a diagnostic test and confirmed that the control board did need to be replaced and would order the part and that another Sears Tech would be back on August 31, 2011 to install the control board. I told Jeff that I would be contacting Sears Service to confirm said appt. I did such on August 24, 2011 and all was confirmed with the Sears Service Dept for August 31, 2011.

Well, August 31, 2011 came and guess what? Once again, the Sears Tech never showed up or even called leaving my daughter waiting for hours again. By this point, I was livid and demanded to speak with a Sears Service Manager. The Manager apologized and offers me a laundry credit for every 7 days that I'm unable to use my machine but fails to tell me that there is a cap on this laundry credit of $100. I informed the Manager that the time constrains that Sears places on its customers waiting for a Sears Tech to arrive is unreasonable and especially for people who are key employees of their company can't leave their job or are made to wait for hours for Sears to show up. More so, it put my daughter's new job at risk because she had to request 3 separate times off from her job for a Sears appt; of which 2 of the times Sears never showed up and the other time the Tech never fixed the machine. Her employer told her in a joking fashion that she was making a lot of "demands" for a new employee requesting so much time off. The Sears Service Manager apologized and now offered me a Saturday appt. This was news to me, as I was told in the past that appts were only scheduled between Monday-Friday.

Now an appt for Saturday, September 10, 2011 was scheduled for a Sears Tech to install the control board between 8am-12pm. At 9:37am the morning of my appt, Sears left a message on my home phone that they were experiencing a high volumes of delays in the field and would not be at my home during the scheduled time but later. I immediately contacted Sears Service requesting to speak with a Manager but each time I was disconnected. By the fourth call, Sears Service assured me that I would not be disconnected. Well, they did not disconnect me. However, what they did was, instead of connecting me to a Manager, they connected me to another irate customer that was also holding for a Manager.

I finally gave up! The Sears Tech (Jeff) finally came that day and replaced the control board and did a complete diagnostic test of the entire machine and told me that all was good. I proceeded to do wash by the third load the machine was now displaying an F17 code. I contacted Jeff on his cell and informed him of this error code F17. He told me that there is no such thing as an F17 with this washing machine. I was like Jeff I do know how to read and it says F17. I took a picture my washing machine with the F17 code flashing for proof (date and time of picture was 9/10/11 @ 5:37pm). Jeff told me to stop the machine and restart the wash cycle, I did and the same thing again an F17; the wash just stops in the middle/end of the cycle leaving the machine full of water with wet clothes. Jeff told me that I would have to make another appt with Sear Service.

At this point, I am so livid, I contacted Sear Service and told them to just give me a new machine and be done with it already. They informed me of their lemon law that the machine has to have 4 separate problems within a 12 month prior, before they will even consider replacing it. Here's the kicker, ultimately even after the 4th time, it's up to their discretion if they want to replace the machine or not. I am so done with Sears!

We bought a Kenmore Elite washer on February 17, 2011. It was delivered in March. I was very confident in Sears quality. We were surprised when four months later, the machine began making noise and vibrating badly during the spin cycle. We called Sears repair (machine is warranted). They said that a repair tech would be dispatched (for a new machine). The tech came out. The tech determined that a clutch was needed. He ordered the part to be delivered to our home. Two weeks later, the part came. We called and another tech was dispatched week later.

The tech installed the part, but the machine continued the noise and vibration. The tech explained that the repair was the best he could do. A second appointment was scheduled. The tech did not show. I made three calls to finally be told that the tech was "called off the route". What happened to the Sears we knew? If they sold a lemon (sometimes it happens), especially a $1,400.00 lemon, they would not hesitate to replace it to make the customer's money and business count. Now it appears that Sears expects its customers to endure whatever inferior service they receive. Is this a proper way to treat customers?

I purchased a Whirlpool built HE Oasis Washer, Kenmore brand but Whirlpool constructed. It really is a piece of junk. I paid right at $1,000 in the fall of 2008 and within three months, I needed a service call. Then right after the one year warranty, I needed several parts replaced and now one year after, it has three error codes.

Everyone is recommending the LG machines for everything because they last much longer! I am certainly not going to throw my money away on a Whirlpool appliance any longer. I went through the same thing with our refrigerator and microwave. I bought Whirlpool in 1980 and swore by it. I didn't replace an appliance (purchased washer, dryer, stove, refrigerator and dishwasher) all at the same time in June of 1980. All appliances lasted for 15+ years. Now, Whirlpool doesn't make anything to last! Large appliances are much too expensive to have to replace every three to five years!

I purchased Kenmore Oasis washer in 2007. In 2010, the washer began leaking from bottom. My laundry floor never got wet in front of the washer, so I didn't know there was a leak. The washer is on the second story. It was evidently a slow leak. I started smelling a musty smell in my kitchen (directly under the laundry room). Then, I started noticing brown spots on the ceiling in the kitchen. We just had a major snow storm, so I thought the roof had leaked from ice build up. I called the insurance company. They repaired and paid for the damage even though they could not find a roof leak. They cut holes in the ceiling and used huge fans to dry out the ceiling.

A few months later, I started noticing a musty smell again and noticed more brown spots in ceiling. I called the insurance company again. This time, we decided to check the bottom of the washer. We found the floor was rotted under the washer. The insurance company had to again do the repair work on the ceiling, dry it out and repair the damaged floor in the laundry room. There was around $9000 damage for the 2 repair jobs that insurance paid for. Sears fixed the washer and found a defective part. The insurance company took the part. They said they were going to file a claim against Sears, because the part was defective and the machine was only three years old.

When the repair work was done, I had the repairman put a pan under the washer in case I ever had another leak. Last night, I noticed that the pan is full of water. I called Sears and they said I would have to pay for the service call and all parts. It has just been a year and 3 months since I had the same problem. I explained to the representative that I can't keep paying for repair on the same problem on a washer that is only 4 years old. I asked if there were any recalls. He said he did not know but the repairman might know. This is unacceptable service. I have bought Kenmore products for years and always thought Sears would stand behind their product. I won't buy anything else from Sears. I bought my daughter a washer and dryer from Sears 3 months ago. If I had to do it over, I would have bought it from Lowe's.

I bought the Kenmore front loader washer just over three years ago. During the first year, it has nothing but problems with it.

I had the warranty so Sears came to my house several times to fix it. They said I was using too much soap. I was not; I was using Wisk HE soap and only using the recommended dosage (usually doing less).

They ended up replacing the washer after months of complaining and battling. They made it sound so easy when you buy the warranty that they will back their product 100%. It was a fight to get them to do what they were supposed to. With the new washer, the warranty only transferred to the new washer so it was only covered for the remainder of the warranty.

Now this one is having issues and the warranty is up. Sears makes such crappy front loading washing machines and should not be able to sell them. How is it that I have had two different machines in just over three years and they have both failed me?

Purchased a Kenmore Elit front load washer in April of 2009. By July 26 of 2011, the Motor Control Unit stopped operating on a 2.25 years old machine. A technician came out to tell us the repair would cost $693 + $75 service call charge on a $784 machine, and the part (which basically controls the entire electronic functions of the machine) would have a 90-day warranty. The technician suggested we buy a new machine vs paying the cost to repair our existing, basically near-new machine. After hours of speaking to Sears (and 7 different representatives in different departments all giving us the brush off), we spoke to a gentleman in their Customer Solutions Center who informed us the Motor Control Unit was covered by the exceptional parts warranty, part #818396. Today, the service technician came out to tell us, in deed, the part is NOT covered under the exceptions part warranty. Rather the sensor smart electronic board would be covered under this warranty for only 2 years.

I have no problems paying to repair a machine, but to charge the same cost to repair the machine as it costs to buy a new one, and to have this not be covered under Sears' exceptional parts guarantee is a crime! That means, basically, the cost of the steel/metal and all other internal parts are worth a few dollars - seems like unfair price gouging for a lovely, big square paper weight that no longer functions. Sears has TERRIBLE service, no one had correct answers and they all just wanted to get off the phone and not help. I will NEVER buy from Sears again! The quality is truly substandard. I think their entire service unit is a scam to overcharge for repairs on subpar machines. Just look at the number of complaints Sears gets on their self-manufactured washing machines. The technician even told us the warranties are getting worse and are covering much less if you buy a new one. I trusted the Sears name to mean quality, but they have really gone downhill, in my opinion.

Oasis HE Kenmore Elite washer has poor service and lack of ownership! We purchased an Oasis HE Kenmore Elite washer from our local Sear store in 2006. At the time of our purchase, we also got the extended warranty for both the washer and matching dryer. We had done loads of homework before our purchase and we were convinced that this was the pair that would meet our needs. Over the past several years, we have had service calls for both the washer and dryer. Unfortunately, I did not call as often as I should have called for service as I am not a complainer, and just try to make things work even if not all parts are doing as needed.

The last straw about our washer happened on June 21, 2011. The washer did its normal beeping noises and my son said, "Mom your washer is at it again". So I tried to make Magic happen once again and force the machine to complete the load of laundry, but my efforts did not work. So reluctantly, I called Sears service at 1-800-469-4663 and to my amazement, they were able to offer service on the following day. I was sure that luck was with us on this issue with the washer, and we would be back-up and running in no time. My son arranged to be off work so that he could meet the service man sometime between 1:00 and 4:00. The service technician did come to the house around 1:30 and supposedly replaced the defective part (the washer's brain) and assured my son that the washer was as good as new. When he called to report the news, I was thrilled and looked forward to getting my laundry caught-up as soon as I got home after 6:00 pm.

I started a load of whites and thought all was good until the dreaded beeping sounds started again. I tried my Magic yet again, but nothing worked. I immediately called Sears service to ask for the technician to correct the issue. After several calls, I requested to speak with a manager, more calls to Sears's service and messages left for a manager. I was still out of luck until Wednesday, June 29. Please remember that I have good white clothes sitting in bleach in a washer that will not work that was serviced and pronounced good as new. I also want to mention that the Sears manager has yet to call me back, not a good customer service. I was also hung up on during one of my calls. I never used profanity or even got nasty. I was only insistent that I needed help.

On Thursday, June 23, I called Sears service yet again and still got lots of run around from everyone. I spoke with a gentleman named Gerald at 9:03 am in the complaints escalation department. I repeatedly asked to speak with a manager but he said, "a manager cannot do any more than I have done" and he refused my request. He finally gave me the address for the corporate office, but refused to give me a number. He stated that there was no number to give me. This is funny as I looked one up on the internet while I was on the phone with him. He lied again! I then proceeded to call the corporate number and talked with Teresa. I was informed that a washer is not an essential appliance and I would have to wait. She did offer however to force a new service time of Monday, June 27. Still no one is willing to own my problem of poor service and washer that will not work.

My husband and I discussed the issue and finally decided that a new washer was our only option. We purchased a new washer from Lowe's on Thursday, June 23. I have washed multiple loads and I am now finally caught-up on my laundry. My next concern is that when my husband and son removed the Kenmore Elite Oasis HE washer, which was pronounced "good as new" the day before from our home, it literally fell apart. I am appalled at how we have been treated as once loyal Sears customers. My home is full of all Sears sold appliances and has been for more than 25 years. I am no longer able to give my hard earned dollars to Sears! What a sad day.

We bought a Kenmore HE 2Plus washer from Sears on December 15, 2007. The first washer we brought home didn't work so it took my husband 4 hours to exchange it for a new one. Within a year, we called Sears for someone to come because the machine was leaking. They never fixed that so a towel was laid under the washer. Lately, my washer sounds like a plane taking off in our house during spin cycle. A repairman came yesterday and told me what was wrong before he even looked at the washer.

The repairman was here 10 minutes and told us it would be over $1000 to fix. It was the main bearing that was bad. We only paid $750 for the machine. The repairman didn't even charge us for the service call because he told us he can't believe they can't make a bearing that will last over 3 years. So now we wait till it goes completely out and we have to buy a brand new washer. The last washer I had, a GE, lasted 17 years. This one lasted 2-1/5 years. There is definitely a quality issue here with Kenmore after reading everyone's problems with their washers. Kenmore needs to do something about this. A washer should at least last longer than 2-1/5 years.

We bought a Sears Kenmore Elite HE5t washer and dryer set on 07/19/2008 (model number 110.47089600 and serial number CSU1711195). The first year we had it, the set was only used a few times, as we were not living in the home it was in. Yet, we move here permanent last March 23, 2009. Since then, it's just been my husband and I. My washer had been acting up a few times throwing a code of F71 a few times, and I just powered it off and on or unplugged it, thinking it just needed to be reset as that code was not in my manual to find out what it meant. After doing the on/off or unplug steps, the washer would start and work.

Until around the beginning of May 2010, my washer had the code again; and I proceeded to do the steps again. But when I unplugged it this time, all display was lost. I called Sears, and they wouldn't let me talk to a tech without a fee. So we scheduled a date for someone to come out. The day he was to come, Sears called and said no one was available to come out after all and had to reschedule. The day the tech was to come out, he called and realized that we live in Sula instead of Missoula, MT, and he said he had to call Sears and discuss that with them because we were 2 hours away.

He called back and said he was coming, and my husband started asking him questions about our washer. The tech was charging $65.00 to come out, and then diagnosing was going to be another fee. So we picked his brain about what was wrong with our machine. He told us that all the code meant that our interface boards were bad and that it needed to be replaced. And since we lost the display as well, he said that the central control unit needed to be replaced too.

We asked how much this would all cost, and he said $900.00 or so. We were appalled. It's going to cost about as much to fix the washer with Sears as we paid for it. We told him our manual states that there is a 2-year warranty on Sensor Smart Electronic Board, and he said that didn't cover the interface or central control unit. We cancelled our appointment and called the local Sears store here in Hamilton, MT and asked if they could recommend someone here to work on the washer because of the cost. They recommended Johnson Appliance Service in Hamilton.

We called and talked with them, and they said the cost would be $606.00. So we've taken the machine to them. They ran a diagnostic on the washer and said all the boards needed to be replaced and had to order one from the manufacturer-corp, and the others were available.

This past Monday, June 7, 2010, we called to see what the status was on my washer; and they said they had put all new boards in my washer and that now, it's throwing an F70 code which is the Central Control Unit, which has been changed and is new and has gone through checking for continuity, harness connections, checked the interface boards x 9; my washer still won't work. Now, it sits at the Appliance Service place. They have sent emails to Sears and Whirlpool and called as well, and they're having problems getting info from anyone as to what was going on.

We have been without a washer now for over a month and very frustrated now. We have been on the internet googling for answers and info, and we are finding out that there is a major problem with many customers having the same problem with this model of washer and dryer and spending 1000's of dollars to get their machines fixed. We also found that Whirlpool (who made my machine for Sears) recently fired over 100 employees due to the interface boards being produced improperly for the machines which are causing these machines to malfunction. What are we supposed to do with these defective washer and dryers?

We spent over $3000.00 for the set and did it for the water savings, Sear's name, stackablity, and more; and my washer has only got maybe a year's worth of washing before breaking. It used to be you could buy Sears, and they backed all their products 100%. And now, it's all about the money and screwing the customer. I can't seem to talk to anyone for decent help without charging you. We have now had $600.00 in boards replaced in the washer and have asked the appliance gentleman, "What if you can't fix my machine? Are we to pay for the boards or can they be returned?" They have told me that "If we can't fix it, we will not charge you!" We are astonished; after all the time and effort they have put in the washer, they are some decent, honest people.

We contacted online a Brian **with searscare@searchc.com about my situation, asking for some help or refund or to find out if there is a recall on these malfunctioning washer and dryers. We still have not received an answer, and that was on 06/09/10 at 11:43 am. We need our washer to be fixed or resolved asap or better yet, we want a refund of the washer and dryer, so we can get a washer and dryer asap.

This is so not right for consumers to be ripped off like this. The government wants us to buy to save energy, water, and such; but the companies make appliances that don't work or last, and they cost so much to buy in the first place. In the long run, it was supposed to pay you back in the energy savings and such with time, and it's costing 2x more to repair. Where is the savings? This is a rip-off!

I want to return the defective washer and dryer set asap and get a full refund. We have taken great care of the set, and we need to get this fixed and resolved, or let us return this set for a full refund; so we can purchase a washer and dryer asap. We are having to pay to get our clothes washed and dried, and I live 9 miles from the nearest laundromat. It's costing me with gas and laundromat expenses to wash, which is ridiculous, when I could be doing it in my own home. Not to mention, I am having to use public washer and dryers, which not knowing how clean they are, is very bothersome! Please help us!

It has been a month and they cannot find the part to replace it with. No one calls me, they just keep on pushing out and saying it is backlog. I think the service is very poor and they just give you the runaround. I feel the washer should be replaced. They wanted to give me $500 to buy a new one only at Sears. This means to get one equal to mine, I would need to put in $600 more. This to me is not very fair.

My husband and I purchased a new Kenmore H3T front loader in October 2008 to replace a really old set in our new house. First, I had issues with the delivery men complaining about having to deliver it to our house and banging our new machine into our basement door. Called Sears, got $75 off the machine. On April 4th 2010, I noticed a puddle under my machine after doing a load of laundry. After cleaning it up, I removed the front and checked the pump as sometimes sthey get clogged and leak. Nope, not leaking from there but I noticed that the cement weight was wet. Took off the gasket, the counterweight, to find one of the bolts for the counterweight had punched a hole in the tub.

No warranty anymore, so we fixed it with some expoxy and fiberglass. I did call Sears to inquire about this issue, and was told that I should have a service person look at it. Yeah right, I fixed it and I am not paying someone to come and scratch their head at it. I've got two young children to wash for, I can't wait 2 weeks. Made an official complaint with a picture of it, since I believe it was due to the delivery guys moving it without shipping bars and slamming it into the door. They are not going to do anything about it or for us, I have told everyone.

We purchased a Kenmore Elite Oasis HE washer, model number 110.27082604, in Feb of 2008. This is a higher-end washing machine at a price of $900. The machine is a designed to be a top loading front loader. It has no agitator and the drum and bottom spin to clean the clothes. Since we bought the washing machine, we have had many problems with clothing items falling over the drum and getting stuck between the drum and outer casing of the machine. Whenever we have had the machine serviced, the repair men say this is a common thing they see all the time. They have even seen sheets fall over the drum.

The clothing items get sucked into the drainage tube and clog the machine which causes many problems, such as, improper drainage, excessive dirty water being left in the machine, improper rinsing, and the unbalancing of the drum. When we called the first time to have this problem serviced, it was not covered under the warranty. We were told we needed to wash our baby clothes and small item in some sort of bag to solve the problem. Since the main function of the machine is to wash clothes, and this information was not disclosed to us during the sale, we found it to be outlandish, not only that it would happen but also that the repair and service call were not covered under the warranty.

The HE5t washing machine is a poor excuse for a washing machine. We used it for a month and our clothes were not coming clean. The toddler's clothes smelled as strongly of urine after the wash as they did before. A month after we purchased the machine, we called the Sears repairman. After he heard how we washed the clothes and after he checked the machine for correct functioning, he told us that we were doing everything correctly and that the machine was functioning as it was intended.

When we objected and said it was not getting our clothes clean, he told us that the front loaders like ours use so little water that they have a hard time cleaning like the old top loaders and he said that you can not fill the washer with a full load and expect it to be cleaned. He suggested we wash with one third of a load! So, we have to do three times as many loads and the loads take twice as long as the old top loading machines and they still do not clean our clothes!

We have been washing with the machine one third full for almost two years now and and the clothes still do not come clean. We keep the nasty mold smell out by using white vinegar for a fabric softener but the clothes still smell foul. Sears sells this machine as a "green" machine. It hurts rather than helps the environment. Each load may use less soap, water and electricity but when you have to do three loads compared to one load in a top loader, it is not a savings, not to mention having to buy three machines to keep up with the laundry. We will have to replace the washing machine which will cost $1,400.

I purchased a Kenmore HE2Plus front load washer and matching dryer on 3/5/08, but would not be delivered until 3/13/08. I started noticing after about 4 months that our clothes had this foul smell and depending on the material it was worse (towels, t-shirts, sweatpants and sweatshirts), the majority of our clothes. I tried everything I could think of to get the smell out of the clothes, i.e. less soap, softener; more soap softener; extra rinse, longer wash cycle, with no improvement.

Then I started to notice the clothes looked dingy after being washed, even the new items. I have had at least 5 service calls on the smell in the clothes and the clothes looking like they are 20 years old, with no resolution. Technicians can't diagnose the problem. I have done nothing but experiment as technicians have suggested: #1 use less soap, #2 use more soap, #3 use less softener, #4 use no softener, #5 use cup of vinegar in load, #6 is water too hard, #7 is water too soft, #8 change soap and softener. The list and excuses goes on and on. The last technician's comment did not make me a happy camper "washing clothes has become an exact science", that is ***. And how many loads of laundry has he done in his 30-plus years?

I had a top load washer before this one and never had an issue with clothes smelling foul & looking dingy. I don't know how I could be saving anything in water since I run everything through double wash and rinse cycles just to try and get them clean and get the smell out (not helping). It is ridiculous to run a washer for 3 hours to try and clean one load of clothes. This washer is a piece of junk and does not do what it is intended. I spend more time doing laundry and cleaning the washer than I did when my children were at home and little. I can't have it replaced with the lemon law because they have not changed one part on the machine.

Sears/Kenmore don't care about any of this, they got their money and the consumer got taken. Shame on you Kenmore and Sears. All I would like is my money back for a bad product and customer service. We live on a tight budget since I lost my job in Nov. 2008. We can't afford to go buy another washer and keep replacing clothes because of the foul smell and looking dirty. The smell from towels after drying off leaves the smell on your body so now we have to use an after shower body spray to mask the odor. It is embarrassing to go in public with the odor in your clothing that you can't get out and you are a clean person.

I told them "no". I want to get rid of the smell. They told me the washer tub would need to be cleaned. "After a year? ", was my response. I let it go for a couple of years. Not 4 months later, my washer is no longer working. It doesn't spin. It needs new board (same thing that was wrong with the dryer). I started looking up the various issues and learned that the spider wheel is made of a faulty alloy. So even if I spend the $400 fixing the washer, I will be looking forward to spending another $220, plus labor, replacing the spider wheel and drum in another year or two.

Then there is a guy on the internet who posted a video of his Kenmore front loader with the same issues. When he took the drums apart, there were three screws sticking out of the metal drum, scoring the wall of the outer drum which is what causes the washer to leak. My washer is on the second floor. We have a pan under the washer, but this would be a nightmare if our washer leaked. Also, the shaking is so bad we've had to repair the sheetrock. The salesperson was aware that this was on a second floor. This is a product that should not be on the second floor of a stick built house. As for the dryer, it also melts fleece and synthetics so anything made with these fabrics have to be hung to dry.

I am writing to you today to document the sequence of events regarding the repair of my Kenmore front load washing machine purchased from Sears on August 2, 2006 at the Sears store in Nashua, New Hampshire. On 12/10/09, I called Sears to request a Service Tech appointment to repair the above-mentioned washing machine, which had gone dead and locked the door after pressing the start button and hearing a popping noise. The man who took my call asked me to check the breakers and the plug and to hold down the start button for over 60 seconds. After none of that worked, he told me that a Service Technician would be here on the 14th between 8 am and 5 pm.

On Monday at 4 pm, the technician called and told my son that he would be here at 5 pm. At 5 when he arrived, my husband showed him the washing machine. The technician examined the machine and opened the door. He said it most likely needed a control board but he couldn't order one without a model and serial number which were not on the inside of the door like they were supposed to be. He asked my husband to find the purchase information, and when he brought the Sears files from 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, the two of them looked through every piece of paper to find something referencing the model and serial numbers. In our possession is everything from the original receipts, all charge card statements, the device manuals (for models 110.4586, 4587) and several miscellaneous pieces of correspondence, but nothing containing a specific model and serial number.

The technician said that this was not the first time a piece of equipment had left the factory without this information and what would most likely happen, was that a credit would be issued for the MPA and a replacement washer would be forthcoming. When I got home, my husband told me what had transpired and that I would have call the Service Department on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, I called the Service Department and spoke with John who couldn't have been more pleasant. He read me the information that Sears had on file, that in 2006 and 2007 Sears had been out and worked on this machine, once for a door jam and the second time to perform scheduled maintenance. John told me that he worked in service contracts and while I was on hold, he had been on the phone with Nancy from the warranty department. He said both of them had looked at the notes on file from yesterday. He didn't understand how the service department had been here twice and not recorded the serial number. He also explained that all parts are ordered via the serial number. John then gave me the number for Customer Solutions, 1-800-297-3370, which would be the department that would order a replacement (which would be a lengthy process) or I could call Kenmore, 1-800-549-4505, and they could send out a replacement sticker with the model and serial number, which would only take a few days.

On Wednesday morning, I called Kenmore hoping for a speedy solution since the laundry was piling up. I spoke with Sheldon who told me that I do have a case but he wasn't the person who could help. He told me my service number was ** and that he would put me on hold while he found someone that could resolve this issue. The next person I talked to was Audrey of Service Contracts who wanted to cancel my MPA and send me a check for the contract that was never serviceable. Audrey's tone was very unkind and when I explained that I had paid full price for both the washing machine and the dryer and two service agreements, and that I did so in good faith, meaning that when they needed servicing that the services would be rendered and that I wouldn't be left with a broken unit in my home that is full of laundry that can't be gotten out and a machine that I have to get out of my home and taken somewhere for disposal.

After all, my first Kenmore top loading washer lived to be 22 years old; this machine is only 3 years old and it should be repaired. Audrey then thought I should have a conversation with Danielle at 1-800-549-4505 who also worked in Customer Solutions. After going around and around with Danielle, she said her job is just to service billing disputes, schedule services or replace an item that qualifies and mine did not qualify. She gave me 3 numbers because Kenmore would have to resolve this. She gave me the numbers 1-800-426-9345,1-888-536-6673 and 1-800-426-9345. She said the best number to call was the 1-888-536-6673.

At that number, I reached Jessie who works in the repair part of the contracts department. After going round and round with her, she had me call Alicia in Service Contracts because this was clearly a service contracts problem. I got hold of Alicia at 1-800-927-7836. After telling her the whole story, she said that since the service department had been out to service the machine in 2006 and 2007, they would have to come again and try to fix it or find another number on it. She told me to call Jim, the service manager at 1-603-642-0366, but he was at lunch. I would have to call him in 45 minutes.

When I did get hold of Jim, he told me that decisions had already been made above and around him and that everything was well documented and no one would be coming to work on this machine or get the clothes out. He also mentioned that if someone came out now, there would be liability issues regarding the clothes. I lost it a little at this point, because now I had spent the day on the phone or on hold and nothing was resolved.

So at this point, I called the main service number and listened to the options. When I heard the option for the no lemon guarantee, I pressed that option and got Latoya on the phone. Latoya said that she was prepared to send me a check for $309.99 and when I said that my first charge card statement showed that the MPA for the two machines was more than that, she then got really snippy and gave me the following breakdown; washer $999.88, service agreement for washer $309.99, the dryer $939.99 and the service agreement for the dryer was $269.99, for a total spent of $2519.96. However, my first statement listed the total spent and on my charge card to be $2,749.85. It must be the pedestals that were ordered with the washer and the dryer.

My statement has some crazy numbers on it starting with Protection Agreement, $2809.85, then credits for cancelled appliances and then another Protection Agreement, $1,149.98. I am assuming that the reason these prices don't match anything on record is because of the Sears Home Promotion that you ran from 7/30 to 8/5/06 which was when we bought the washer and dryer and MPAs.

All I really want is my washing machine fixed. If you can't fix it (which seems ridiculous since it most likely can be fixed) and you have a lemon clause, then why not apply your lemon clause, since clearly in three visits, the serial number isn't going to suddenly appear there?! It is just so the wrong thing to have one more dead washing machine rotting on the planet when that doesn't need to be the case. I have not requested the cancellation of the MPA and a check for the $309.99, hoping the receipt of this letter may prompt some action and that not all hope for Sears is lost.

He wrote on the receipt, "balance block broke off the tub and broke the shocks." The tub is lying on the ground. It needs a new tub, shocks etc. Sears will do absolutely nothing because the warranty is up. To me this is a defective wash machine that is not even two years old. I have not been able to contact Kenmore at all. All websites take me back to Sears. I spent three hours on the phone talking to Sears with no resolution at all. I am a single person that lives alone so the machine was not getting overused. Doesn't a manufacturer have any responsibility for the products they sell even if the warranty is up? I purchased a Kenmore Washer 3.5 Super Capacity on 9/9/05 from Sears (Model #41744052400) and we've had nothing but problems ever since. I purchased the matching electric dryer as well. First, the washer had to go back the first time it was used. It must have been dropped in the warehouse - broken drum brackets. Then, the dryer never shut off and became red hot along with my wall and floor - bad sensor. Most of the damages were covered under warranty (i.e. broken drum bracket, door lock on washer, door adjustment, etc.) but now that the warranty has expired, the mold build up is awful and the main control panel went bad.

This will cost half of what I paid for the washer to repair - very disappointed in the products. I would hope that a $1,500.00 investment would last longer than 4 years. I definitely would not recommend this product. I am currently looking to go back to the top load washer and get away from all the bells and whistles. I just want clean clothes that get spun out without a mold smell and black lines left on my light color clothing.

At that time, Sears replaced the motor control board. On Aug. 8, 2005, it had error codes and was putting stains on clothes. They replaced the ETC board and the wash plate. On Feb. 10, 2006, there were more clothes stains. They replaced the control board and u-joint assembly. On June 14, 2007, it was making unusual noises and still have stains. They replaced the u-joint assembly again. On Aug. 8, 2008, grease was still getting on the clothes. He couldn't find anything wrong with machine so the tech cleaned the tub and dispensers. On Sept. 24, 2009, it was leaking water onto the floor and LD error code on display panel. They replaced pump.

On Oct. 1, 2009, it was leaking water onto the floor with the same error code of LD. The tech took the pump apart and cleaned lint out of impellers. I was informed by the tech to stop washing rugs of any kind. Rug washing is a problem; however, instructions on the lid explain which settings to use when washing rugs. On Oct. 15, 2009, I called service for error code LD again. The rep informed the tech will decide if this problem falls within the warranty. I had for less than 6 years a Kenmore front load washer model # 417.43042200 that started to make a loud noise when on spin cycle. I took it apart and found that the shaft holding the tub was broken due to corrosion. Apparently, the aluminum brackets which are part of the drum were totally corroded by the soap or softener (we use only well-known brand of detergent and softener). I called Sears because the tub has a lifetime warranty but was told that they have to send a technician to do the repair to get the part for free. According to the web, it is a major repair that takes over 4 hours and they recommend to change several other parts. I estimated that the repair cost will be much higher if I use the warranty than if I do it myself.

Consequently, I ordered a new drum assembly from Sears (which was quite cheaper than other discount places) for a total cost of $339. I cleaned all the other assemblies and reassembled the washer. That seems to work very well. I am very concerned about the corrosion of the drum brackets because I have another of these washers and expect the same problem. By the way the drum assembly I got from Electrolux is exactly the same design as the original one. I poured epoxy in all the holes near the tub to prevent corrosion like on the original bracket and hope it will last longer but I still think that there is a manufacturing default. I took several pictures and if someone is interested he/she can email me at ** with a subject line: Drum assembly.

We bought a Kenmore Elite HE4T front loading washer less than 4 years ago for $1,500. Ouch. I did something I normally don't do, which is buy a two year additional warranty. Thank goodness. Even though it is supposed to be quiet, it is not at all. The whole house shakes when it is on, any spin cycle higher than low. The service said this is normal. In less than 2 years, I started getting the dreaded F14 and/or dL, or some other message accompanied by the loud beep beep. I was told to unplug it and replug it, not at all easy since the plug is behind the washer. I did this so many times I hurt my back (and no, I work out and don't, well didn't, have back problems). Usually this would work, but eventually I had to call them again.

Luckily, my two year service was still in effect. The guy came out, was very professional, fixed it and it was fine for several months. Then it started again. I was told it might be due to the shaking. I should secure the washer better. Really, how? Well I could have someone come out for $75 and check it out. I passed. A few plugs and unplugs and it started working again. A few months later, I noticed water under my washer. I called service and $75 later, they could find no problem, but no more water was coming out so it must be fine. Two weeks ago, the dreaded beeping started again. I tried the same thing, but this time, no luck. I finally gave in and called Sears.

A week later (today), he shows up only to tell me, like I've heard from others, that I should have had the extended warranty (several hundred more dollars on an already expensive machine that is supposed to last?). Not surprisingly (anymore), now that I am out of warranty, my motherboard is now not working and not fixable. I can either get a new one for $300 plus $150 (minimum) for installation or I can get a rebuilt motherboard (sure, I feel really good about getting a rebuilt one when the new ones aren't working right) for $155 and $150 for labor. It will be 10 days to two weeks.

But my favorite part - I have to decide now or I will have to start the whole process again. No, I can't talk to his manager. Managers aren't allowed to talk to clients and yes, I can talk to my husband but I have to do it at that moment because my service call is over. At that point, I don't ever want to deal with this company again. I don't trust their product and I don't want to throw any more money into this money pit. Expensive lesson learned.

After my front loading clothes washer broke down, I purchased a top loading Kenmore washer in February of 2009. I bought it because it was much less expensive than a front loader, and because the salesman told me it was an excellent machine. Well, it's not an excellent machine. In fact, I don't even consider it a good machine. I have been unhappy with it since day 1.

First of all, in order for my clothes to come out without having the wrinkles pressed into the fabrics, I must use a water softener, which I never used in my front loader. And still, I have a great deal more ironing to do. Also, the water softener dispenser is in the agitator and unless I clean out the dispenser after every other load, it retains enough of the water softener to have it leak out of the agitator thus staining my clothes as I remove them from the machine. The machine is also much noisier than my old front loader.

I would very much like to come into Sears to buy a front loading machine, but I just can't afford to lay out $700 or $800 at this time, especially since I spent $571.43 for the top loader just 6 months ago, on Feb. 13, 2009 to be exact. I wish Sears had some sort of trade back policy by which some sort of financial adjustment toward the purchase of a front loader could be made. I've always been happy with Sears products and service. But this time the product has not lived up to the promise made to me by the salesman.

I purchased a Sears Kenmore Elite Oasis HE top loading washer in November 2007. In October 2008, it was making a noise that sounded like something broken was spinning around somewhere inside the washer. We checked and could find nothing visible. It also did not seem to be draining water from the clothes properly. I called repair and a tech checked it out (spent very little time and really didn't seem to know about this machine), and declared there was nothing wrong with it. A little over a month later, I stepped into my basement family room and onto soggy wall to wall carpeting. The washer room is adjacent to the family room. The washer pump had failed in some fashion and flooded the washer room and part of the family room!

I called repair and was scheduled for a tech to come out on November 21. Meanwhile we had the task of ripping up carpet, moving my husband’s business inventory, our stored items, and furniture. We spent many days trying to dry out the basement with a wet vacuum, fans and dehumidifiers. We were then and still are concerned about mold! On November 21, the repairman came out and said that it was the water pump that failed but, he did not have one and would have to order one. He informed me that it would not arrive for 2 weeks. I now had 5 family members arriving at our home that day to spend the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend with us, and a wet and horrible smelling room (where they were supposed to stay) and no washer for 10 people!

On December 1, after many calls to find out about the status of my part order, it finally arrived at my home. I called repair to schedule an appointment. They didn't want to give me one until December 10. I blew up at them and finally got a supervisor (after being disconnected several times and calling other phone numbers) who gave me an appointment for December 3. When that repairman looked at the part and the washer, he told me they had ordered the wrong part (my head exploded at this point). He said he would check his truck and see if he had anything that would do the trick. He installed a pump and declared it fixed.

Fast forward 8 months later to August 30. My husband stepped into our basement and found soggy wall to wall carpet for a second time. His business inventory was wet and our washer room and part of the family room once again flooded. We just stood there in shock that this had happened again. I called repair right away and made an appointment for September 2. We once again spent all of Sunday and Monday wet vacuuming, ripping up carpet and trying to dry out our belongings. Even now there are 4 fans and a dehumidifier going 24/7, and we are of course concerned about mold.

September 2 arrived and no one showed up from Sears. I called and inquired and was told that my appointment was scheduled for September 9. My reply was that I would never have agreed to September 9, a full week and a half after my home was flooded. I told them that I was told September 2, although the repair center clearly entered September 9 in their system. I was told there was no way anyone would come out here any sooner. I asked for a supervisor and she argued with me and did not want to give me to a supervisor. She finally relented and when the supervisor came on the line and said her name was Sarah, I was promptly disconnected. I spent the next 35 minutes trying to get a supervisor on the line. Seven separate calls and I finally gave up.

I wrote a letter to Bruce Johnson, CEO of Sears Holdings in Hoffman Estates, IL. So here I am, no washer, a wet basement, utility bills that will be astronomical because of the 24/7 dry-out process, wall to wall carpet that I don't want to leave in my home, Laundromat trips every day and all the expense and time it takes. When I called the National Customer Relations line and requested a new washer, I was told that my master protection agreement does not cover a new washer unless there have been 4 service repair calls (with parts replaced each time) in one calendar year. I said that it seems to me that since the original repairman did not fix the problem and my basement flooded, and then it happened again 8 months later, that should be more than equal to 4 repair calls! Nope. I just got the party line. We are so disgusted with Sears and it goes without saying that we will never buy from them again. What we want from Sears is to have our washer replaced with a new one.

I'm told it will cost $371.00 to replace the mother board. After only about a year and a half!

In speaking with Sears Customer Service and Kenmore Tech Services and Customer Solutions, their only concern was that a protective agreement hadn't been purchased so there was nothing they could do. My main concern is that there is a recall on prior models of the Elite HE and the mother board is being replaced for free. I'm told my washer (model #110.27087604) is not on the list. However I'm experiencing the same problem. It appears the problem has been passed on to the newer models. If this is the case, the newer models should receive the new mother board also. I understand that repairmen have no solution to the problem other than guessing that the customer is using too much soap. (I measure every time.) I cannot get any satisfaction from Sears but intend to go higher up and continue to pursue this matter. I was extremely disappointed at their lack of assistance or concern. I had thought there would have been a recall or a posted fix to the mold problem.

I purchased the matching dryer at the same time. And in 2007, I purchased another front loader and dryer for our house in the mountains. Had I known about the mold smell, needless to say, I would not have made the second purchase.

I purchased a top of the line Kenmore front loader washing machine and dryer from Sears in March 2003. I kept the extended warranty until 2006 when my husband lost his job. A few weeks ago, the machine started making a banging noise. I had Sears out to look at it and was told that the bearings were shot. The suggestion, "throw it in the trash". He then handed me an estimate of $1,583.68 to repair it. I told the technician that the drum had a lifetime warranty. He agreed and the new amount to repair the machine was $1,109.85. When I was given the estimate and looked it over, there was $889.96 in additional parts to complete the repair. I questioned the tech and he stated that the drum is like an egg. The parts are not reusable. I called Sears and expressed my anger.

When I decided to make this purchase, I weighed many things. It was an expensive purchase but decided not to skimp, go with their top product and now, I am told to junk it. If I knew that their products have such a short life span, I would have purchased something much more inexpensive. The washing machine now will not spin, or agitate and water pours out from the bottom all over my floors. I took the bottom off and the rubber seal that encases the drum is literally cracked in half. I was on the phone again with several people at Sears yesterday and the best they can do is to give me $150.00 off labor and $100.00 off parts. That still has me putting out $900.00 plus to repair it.

I feel if a lifetime part goes bad, it is their responsibility to have the machine back in working order and if those parts are not reusable, then the job should be done at whatever expense it is to get the drum working. That part went bad, so it is Sears' responsibility to get it performing again. They will not budge. I have 5 other Sears appliances in my home and will never purchase another. Like I told the woman yesterday, I want it fixed, but I do not think I should have to pay for parts.

In September 2006, I purchased a Kenmore matching front loading washer/dryer, Kenmore range and Kenmore refrigerator/freezer. As of March 2009, I have had to call customer service to repair my washer, costing me $350. Coincidence or not, my range over this past weekend, 6/6/09, experienced a runaway temperature which could have lead to a fire and my dryer mysteriously stopped working. I called and requested service and was told I was responsible for $75 per appliance for diagnostics and then the repair amount on top of this. With all appliances being only 2 1/2 years old, and for 3 out 4 to break in a row, Sears Kenmore brand should be ashamed of themselves for putting their name on appliances we have put our trust in. Are there any consumer laws protecting me? I look forward to any assistance in this matter. I have the repair men coming this week on 6/10 and 6/11. I’m unable to cook and launder for family of 5 and have no financial means to replace these appliances. Never mind affording to spend an additional $350 each for their repair!

On December 18, 2008, I purchased a new Kenmore 600 topload washer. On the evening of May 31, 2009, the wash quit working. The washer will not do anything but allowed more water to run into it. It quit working full of water and with a load of clothes in it. When I called the customer service 800 number, the lady I spoke with told me to unplug the wash and plug it back in to see if it needed to be reset and this was after I told her the washer was full on clothes and water. I again explained to her the the plug was behind the washer and since it was full of water and clothes that would be impossible. The representative told me the next available date for a service person to come out was on Thursday, June 4,2009.

This is a brand new washer. Why should it take four days for Sears to send out a service person on a washer that is five months old? If Sears does not have enough tech then they should contract the service out to other companies. It is summer, 95-100 degrees outside. The water in the washer is smelling and when I called them back today to let them know, they didn't care. I've always bought Kenmore washers but this will be the last one I buy!

Once I moved Feb 2009 and used my washer again for less than a month it started going off flashing F 51 and beeping on any cycle, setting, etc. The washer costs almost $1000 and when the Sears repair guy came out to see what was wrong with it he told me the control panel was out and it'd cost $414.00 to repair. I have read on several web sites about this same washer having the same problem, then after it is repaired it will last about 3 months and go out again. Not only do you have to pay an outrageous amount to repair you have to turn around and buy a warranty to protect yourself. Sears knows this washer continually has this problem and will do nothing to help with a recall or whatever. I have complained to anyone I can at Sears and it does not help. So I deal with the stupid washer not working having to push the stop and start button over and over again until it gets through the washing, rinsing, & spinning to being done.

We bought a 700 Series Kenmore Washer at the Sears dent and scratch facility in Orlando, FL. Within a week or two, we noticed it was leaking. I think we had two repairmen come out. The second one was honest and said the washer was poorly designed. If you run a small load, the water splashes up and over the tub and onto the floor. Of course, they were trying to sell me the extended warranty, which would only mean I'd call a repairman. He'd come out and say we must be loading the clothes wrong. Since there is no fix they can do, I'd spend more money and waste my time waiting for the repairman to come. If this is the kind of product Sears is now making, it will eventually come back to bite them since people talk and will stop buying Sears products. Sears used to be a trustworthy name. Soon it could be a memory.

We purchased a top load Kenmore Elite HE washer about 15 months ago. After only 3 months, a repairman needed to be called due to the F/F51 code on the panel. The repairman stated this model was known to do this. I thought great - we got a lemon! Now, 12 months later, we are having this same problem. I've never experienced such a nightmare, nor have I ever needed a repairman for any of my washers (I've only had 2 since they lasted a long time). So this experience has not only left me with a lemon washer, but also disgusted at Sears for having the nerve to put this product on market.

Shame on them for selling me and many others this "top of the line" washer. Today's economy leaves no room for throwing money out the window. I believe it's up to Sears to repair or replace these washers free of charge. It's obviously a huge problem. I would even take a downgraded machine as long as it worked. After all, it can't get any worse than what I have. I am glad you provide this site so you know other people's experiences. Please help us find some answers or where to take further action.

I purchased Kenmore Elite Oasis HE series canyon capacity washer and matching dryer (Mod #s 110.27072600 - washer, and 110.67072600 - dryer. Installers set the machines in place, plugged in and attached the dryer vent hose, then left. The drier wouldn't work; there was no power cord! I tried to use the washer; it tripped circuit breakers three times. Behind the washer, I saw a bunch of wires with exposed ends sticking out of the back of the machine. The bundle of wires was smashed between the control panel/top of the machine and the tub portion. I called Sears to fix the problem. They said, "The power cords don't come with that dryer - you have to order one as an extra.”

Two weeks later, the repairman fixed the washer (we bought our own power cord for the dryer). I could no longer see the wires and the machine worked for 45 minutes, then circuit breakers tripped again. I called Sears to fix the problem. Four weeks later, the repairman could not fix it and stated the problem was our home's electric wiring and I needed to hire an electrician (at my own expense). I hired a master electrician the next day. He tested everything from wall outlet to circuit breakers. My home is only five years old, and amps to outlet were more than ample for both machines. The problem, he stated, was obviously the dryer. (I'd run my other dryer for 4 years on the same outlets with no problems.)

I called Sears back and recounted the electrician's feedback. Sears said they stand behind their repairman's advice and would not fix under a warranty, but we could pay for a visit and repair (min. $300). I decided to call a local repair company, but both machines inexplicably started working without tripping the breakers within two days, so I canceled the service call. Within a month, the dryer started beeping incessantly throughout the drying cycle. This wasn't a big enough issue to me to try to fight with Sears’ customer service again, so we've been living with it. This week, the lid on the washer broke in and the door lock sensor was not locking the lid so the machine would cycle. It therefore wouldn't run for more than five seconds. I contacted Sears. They will not repair as a warranty call; service call would be at my expense. I did some research on Internet and learned that many people have had the same problems with their same model machines.

Sears is well aware of the issue and states that replacement parts are available for a total cost of about $650 - new control/touch panel for dryer, new lock for washer, new lock sensor for washer, and replacement lid hinge that broke off completely due to rust (inside the lid!). The way I see it, I bought what was represented as the top of the line washer and dryer from Sears and from the day the set was installed, I've had constant electrical and electronic issues that have rendered the set useless to me. For the first two months I owned the set, I had less than one day of usable service. Two years later, I am once again without a working set of laundry appliances. Sears is aware of the reasons and they are common problems with these machines. I believe that should constitute a recall or at least a permanent fix to the problems. Sears will not do this unless I pay them almost as much as one of the machines cost new.

On March 8, 2008, Sears delivered a Kenmore front-loading washer and dryer. This completed a large appliance purchase since late January, totaling $6300, mostly in Kenmore appliances, from the Fredericksburg, VA store. Since about January 2009, I had noticed that the washer was really shaking when spinning - far more than usual. Yet it was level. The troubleshooting section of the appliance manual said to not worry about it - these washers make a lot of noise. So I did nothing.

On March 7, 2009, something broke inside the washer, leading to water draining out into the drain pan. I had not previously noticed that the horrible vibration had shifted the drain pain over and dislodged the caulking around the drainpipe, so all the water went onto the tile, then dripped through the ceiling into our garage. My husband had to remove a large chunk of drywall and insulation, let it dry, then replace it and repaint. Also around the garage door into the kitchen, as the water came down inside the wall. Fortunately, he owns a drywall company, so was able to fix it easily.

I was away from home from 6:30am to 7:30pm on Sunday, March 8, and we didn't realize that was the day the warranty expired. Once I got the kids to bed, I collapsed in bed myself (dance competition weekend). I submitted a service request at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 8 hours after the warranty expired, even though the actual damage occurred within the warranty period.

Any self-respecting company would extend the warranty 24 hours to satisfy a long-time customer, particularly one that purchased that many appliances from them. I have gotten nothing but the runaround from Sears, and the bottom line is that they will give me $250 toward labor and materials. We will never purchase from Sears again, and we will urge all of our friends, relatives, and neighbors to also boycott Sears. My husband works for a major DC home builder, and he will recommend that they never consider Kenmore appliances if they ever change appliance manufacturers.

2 years and 3 months ago, my husband and I purchased the Kenmore Elite washer/dryer set. I had to have my washer worked on so many times that the service guy told us there were no other parts that could be replaced to fix the leak. This was after the one-year warranty was expired; however I had purchased an extended warranty, so we were able to go through this experience without added expense. What we did experience was numerous (approx. 7) service visits without fixing the problem. I finally had to contact the Better Business Bureau to get my washer replaced. I had a major issue with replacing the washer with the same model or another model, because I did not want to go through this problem in another year. Finally, I decided to replace it with the same model because it was the blue model and there was no other blue model to match my dryer. I figured this would come back to haunt me.

Approximately two weeks ago, my dryer began turning off before the time it was supposed to end, started without anyone touching any buttons, go from 40 minutes to 16 minutes only after two minutes of drying time, buttons changing their real function such as the stop button would start the machine and the power button would turn the machine off. We called the repair guy who was nice but that's where the positives stopped. He did not open the dryer door or unscrew any screw on the machine. His diagnosis was based solely on our report of an F2 code. I could have given this over the phone and saved myself $68. He told me that it would cost $273.99 in just parts. I asked him why I would pay this when I could add another $150 and have a new dryer. He told me I would have to address this with the company.

I contacted the Columbus, Ohio and the Alabama offices and they told me that there was nothing they could do because this dryer only has a one-year warranty. I even tried to find out if there were specific parts on this dryer that may have been recalled, but I was transferred 5 times to be told that another department could help me. No one seemed to be able to tell me this.

My next step was to try and obtain my service record for my washer. I was told this would be sent to me when I was having trouble with my washer, but they never sent it. I dropped that request when they replaced my washer (the service guy would give me a printout on some visits but not others). I wanted the entire history so I could contact my local television station so that I may educate the public on the poor service of Sears, poor quality of Kenmore brand, and encourage others to only buy brands with good warranties. FYI Speed Queen has a three-year warranty. I again contacted BBB. This time to obtain my washer's service record but have not heard anything as of yet. I also cancelled my Sears credit card and will never shop there or buy Kenmore/Whirlpool again. Public, please BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!

I call about 6 different numbers and was told that there was a problem with the washer, that Kenmore knows about it, but has not issued a recall on the product. They instructed me to go to sears.com and click on the customer service link. There you will be able to make your complaint but need to include model #, serial #, and date of purchase. This action may or may not result in a recall, but this is the way to go about it. I figure the more complaint they have, perhaps they will issue a recall. What do you say, you in?

On 11/08/03, I purchased a front load washing machine. Five years later the bearings have wore out. It sounds like a fright train in spin mode. We called Sears to come and see what the issue is. The repair fellow said that it is common with this model and that it would be $850 to repair so we might as well buy a new machine. After 5 years I am not happy to replace a washing machine on Christmas eve. So I would like an explanation, refund or credit to the new washer I have to buy to replace this one. The model number is 417.44102300 serial number is xc33903671. Please contact me ASAP.

We purchased our Kenmore Oasis HE washer and dryer in March of 2006. We have done ok until now. The washer will not start as the cycle lights flash constantly from on-to-off. If there is a few second break in the flashing, we sometimes can get it to start. My last 2 Kenmore washers lasted 15+ years EACH so I didn't think it was necessary to purchase the extended warranty. Now we have a piece of junk that will cost an arm and leg to fix on, what it appears to be, an annual basis. Is there a class action lawsuit, and, if so, how does one join in?

Purchased a Kenmore HE2 plus front loading automatic washer. Clothes stink. Washer stinks like rotten eggs. Permeates throughout the whole house. Towels and linens stink and unable to get the funk out with bleach, oxy, fabreeze, etc. Unable to run the clean washer cycle because of an error code that keeps popping up - rL - and of course there is nothing mentioned in the manual about how to troubleshoot this code.

For this clearly pervasive problem, Sears at a minimum should provide a hotline to help people over the phone. I have to pay for a service call just to have some doofus come and tell me why I can't run the clean washer cycle and fix the stinky laundry problem. Even then, it may not fix it and then we are stuck with buying another machine. This is ridiculous. Someone should file a class action lawsuit against Sears.

We purchased the Kenmore top of the line washer and dryer about two years ago. We bought the extended warranty. The first time our washer broke we called for warranty work. We were told it would be 4 weeks to set an appointment. Someone had to be at our home between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm to let the repairman in. This is a whole day away from work. The man came and asked me what's wrong with the washer? I told him he was the repairman - figure it out.

He looked at the machine and ordered parts. Said he would be out the next week to install the parts. We would have to meet him between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm another day to fix the machine. Another day away from work. It is now going on 6 weeks without the machine fixed. The repairman came and said the wrong parts had been delivered. We would have to wait until the correct parts came in and schedule another day for repairs. This happened three times. The wrong part was sent three times. Finally the correct part was shipped and another day away from work between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm for the repairman to come. It took almost three months and six days missed work to have this machine fixed.

Now the machine is broken again. The repairman was here last Wednesday (a day off work for us) and again had to order three parts. Only two arrived and I don't even know if they are the correct parts. We have to schedule another day between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm for the repairs to be done. What kind of warranty is this? I will never buy anything at Sears again and I will encourage all I know to not buy there. I think it is criminal that Sears can offer an extended warranty when they are offering nothing of value. The washing machine destroys our clothes and doesn't even clean them well. It is a piece of junk.

We bought a Kenmore 417 front-loading washing machine that had a $400 replacement of the computer two months after the warranty expired, and a $100 replaced pump after five years. Now at six and a half years old, the bearing is going out and would cost $500 to fix, but we're tossing it to the curb instead. Oh yes, and we also have water damage from the machine leaking water out of the door.

I have a Kenmore Elite top loading washing machine. It is a little over a year old. It was very expensive but I had read in Consumer Reports that it was a good machine. Well, the cycle lights on the machine started blinking and beeping on and off and it wouldn't let me wash my clothes. Remember this is only a little over a year old. I called Sears and they told me to unplug it and plug it back in. I did and nothing changed. I started doing research and found 100s of other people with the same problem. This machine should be recalled.

My wife and I bought a Kenmore front end stackable washer and dryer 6 years ago. The washing machine broke last week and we were told that the cost would be $1200 to fix for a $600 washer. From reading other posts the washing machine only lasts for about 5 to 6 years which is less than the average for a durable good like this.

But here is the problem, our dryer still works and we do not want to buy a new dryer but we are unsure if a similar model and size washer will be compatible with our existing dryer. According to some sales people at Sears they change the stacking requirements from year to year on like models. A like model is a model that is the same size with the same specs and basically looks the same. Think of it as newer edition college text book - you know how it works.

I went to Sears twice and spoke to 6 different people and they all gave different answers about the compatibility concern. I then called Kenmore parts and customer service and was bounced around and hung up upon. I had to call back 3 times, was transferred 6 times and spoke to 7 different people. The customer service at Sears is awful because employees or their sales associates are on commissions and have little to no product knowledge... They are only there to sell and when the product breaks, it is a different department for that type of customer support. The customer service line has zero empowerment for their customers and zero accountability.

So to buy a new washer I need to buy a new dryer unless I take the chance that a similar Kenmore model will stack to my existing dryer but that will cost $1500 with tax, install, etc... and I have to buy a Kenmore with a life span of 5-6 years and deal with Sears.

In 2006, we purchased brand new Sear Front Loader Washer (Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak 4, Model# 110.459724004) and Dryer for our home. We have constant issues with a Swamp Water smell coming from the washer and the white clothes do not stay white. I went online and read about the filter that may need to be cleaned. My husband took the lower front panel off of the front of the washer and cleaned the filter but the smell is still there. We have tried different types of bleach, Oxy Clean, Downy, Fron Loader Cleaner Tablets to get rid of the smell and it keeps coming back. Our clothes and linens have this smell constantly. As a result we spend unnecessary money on additional products that don't get the smell out of the washer and clothes.
