I purchased a number of appliances from Jenn-Air one of which was the refrigerator drawer. This particular refrigerator drawer has given us problems from the start and we have called the repair people to fix it many times. Now conveniently after the warranty has expired the repair agent informed us that there had been a manufacturing default to begin with, and now there’s nothing they can do to fix it. When I called the customer service and spoke to a woman named Lauren who is the highest supervisor at Jen Air according to her she said all she could do was offer a 15% discount on our next purchase but could not do anything more to help us.

This is rather shortsighted as now we will never replace our aging appliances with the Jenn-air brand ever again because of the issues we’ve been having with the refrigerator and the way this customer service person has handled our complaint. It is clear that they only value dollars spent rather than customers themselves... Save yourself the trouble and buy from someone who actually cares.

Bought this unit over 15 years ago and it is great. Have had to unplug drain and defrost a few times and replaced hinge on bottom of fridge door. Made one myself as none available and Sears sold me one but it was for top. Too bad a simple hinge could not be procured from Jenn-Air. Would buy another one if it was as good as this but sadly all appliances are not made very good. Had a Crosley which lasted 32 years!

Beautiful black interior with blue backlighting. The fridge keeps a consistent temperature and is very quiet. The front panel makes it easy to apply a wood front matching the cabinet facings. It has a bottom freezer with multiple drawers which we prefer.

I bought the bronze finish french door style unit in 2006. It has performed perfectly with no problems. My only complaint is that the finish of the inside shelves is peeling off and some of the plastic has cracked. The outer appearance is still great, very few (and quite minor) nicks and scrapes all caused by the family over time.

We bought the Jenn-Air fridge in June 2017 and the icemaker stopped working in April 2019 and the lights blink sporadically when opening the doors. This was supposed to have a 2 year warranty, but Jenn-Air conveniently cannot find my information in their computers, so I have to pay to get it fixed. I know this is a Whirlpool product, but even then, it shouldn't break in less than 2 years. It is only me and my husband, no kids, no reason to break. It's just CRAP! We are building another home and have purchased a Sub Zero this time. Never again will I buy Jenn-Air products.

When we built our home in 2006 we spent way over budget to get luxury appliances from Jenn-Air. The biggest mistake of our home build! Refrigerator has had 2 control panels, 1 under warranty, 2 evaporators, 1 new fan, and the ice and water dispenser has been fixed 3 times before we gave up on it working about 5 yr. ago. There is still ice accumulating in top of freezer and yesterday the freezer door fell off the bottom hinge! Now the "expert" repair service sent by Whirlpool tells us they don't make the pin for the hinge that broke. They say the refrigerator is unrepairable!

We paid nearly $6000 for this piece of junk that has had major issues and neither, Jenn-Air or Whirlpool will stand behind! Our dishwasher has had to have baskets replaced, rollers on baskets replaced and is now held together with home wiring. The Convection oven had to have a new gasket and new hinges replaced within 2 year of purchase. The regular oven has had to have a new control board. The stove/cooktop has turned white from heat! The rubber gaskets that help seal the doors are designed in such a way that if the left door is opened, one must then open the right door to reclose it. Every time. With the abrasion on the right door gasket from the larger left door gasket ripping past it, the right door gasket got shredded in less than a year of light use (we live less than half the year in the location where the fridge is and are empty nesters). As a result, the strip of magnet within that shredded gasket falls out. We duct taped it in (lovely on our new fridge) but it isn’t holding so I will have to get this fixed. I bought the fridge for the freezer design, that has a ice box that can be hooked to the freezer door to pull out with the door, or not. And there is a large flat pull out for frozen pizzas and other thin freezer goods. That all works, but not worth the fridge door hassle.

Our stainless steel, french door Jenn-Air refrigerator was purchased 18 months ago from a Scratch & Dent outlet in our hometown. Our refrigerator worked well up until 4 weeks ago when there was a sealant leak, and the refrigerator would not keep freon but instead had a leak somewhere in the unit, dismissing all cold air from the refrigerator itself. Essentially, our refrigerator heated up and wouldn't stay cool.

We contacted the Service Department at Jenn-Air and they sent out repair technicians on 2 accounts to assess the problem. After about a week and a half, and me communicating again with the Service Department, they sent the repairman back out to conduct a "Dye Test" to find the leak. The leak could not be found after 4 days, so then Jenn-Air conceded to replacing the entire unit.

We appreciate their attention to our issue and are thankful this happened within 18 months of our purchase. The warranty was set to go out within 2 years. From the first day we had trouble with it until now has been 3 weeks and 5 days. And today we received our brand new refrigerator via truck delivery! They installed it and it's the exact same model as our previous refrigerator, just better! Plus, Jenn-Air gave us a $150 Grocery Reimbursement! Be it known that they take care of their customers. We will shop Jenn-Air next time for further appliances!

I was compelled to review Jenn-Air on this site because all that I read before was very discouraging. Keep in mind that you must clearly communicate with patience to their service department. Remember that they are human too, and they ultimately want to solve your problem. Also, be patient when dealing with service repair appointments and fully communicate between both parties (Jenn-Air and Repair Technicians) so that there is clarity on both sides. Don't lose heart... A workable appliance is in your near future!

We purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator one year ago during Black Friday sales at Best Buy. When it was delivered the ice maker did not work. They sent out a local repair company to fix it. When they arrived they took the door apart and laughed. They said the door clearly had been dropped and they had to have known it was broken because the inside of the door was zip tied together! The wires from the icebox were laying inside the unit. The warranty company ordered us a new door because that is the only way to replace the ice maker. 6-8 weeks later the new door came in and the ice maker did not work! So once again they ordered another door. 6 weeks later the new door came in with a large dent on it. We were told we could take it so we at least had a working ice maker but that if we did it would constitute us accepting it and they would not replace it in the future.

This was a $4,000 fridge so of course like any normal person would do we told them to order us a new one that was not dented and so they did. We were told it would be 6 more weeks. 6 weeks came and went as well as 6 months. Intermittently we would get phone calls to update us that it was still on backorder. I returned to Best Buy to purchase another kitchen set (a different brand) for a house we were remodeling and at that time I was told by the salesman that KitchenAid we no longer even producing these refrigerators because of all of the issues they were having with them and they told me to contact KitchenAid.

So then the experience gets even better. I contacted KitchenAid and was told that production had been stopped but they were going to start up again in 2019, but they would give us our money back if we wanted. We informed them that wasn't really an option considering we just redid our entire kitchen with matching appliances in January 2018. We also told them our only choice was a counter depth fridge because we designed the kitchen and island around this model. So for our inconvenience they offered us $125. They then offered to let us upgrade to their higher brand Jenn-Air. By offered I mean they allowed us to pay to upgrade to the better $5,000 refrigerator. Which we actually decided to do because the KitchenAid was on backorder until first quarter 2019 and who was to say that the new production of this fridge was going to be any better than the one they already had to stop making because of all the issues.

So we paid the difference only to be told this new refrigerator was also on backorder until the first quarter 2019! We accepted the fact that we were without a fully working fridge until the new year but still upset with being put out like we were. Fast forward to October 2018 we get a phone call from Jenn-Air that they have a new fridge for us and they are going to deliver it. So we set that up, the delivery date comes and the delivery company JB Hunt arrives and delivers our refrigerator using a dolly which they manage to scratch up our new transition strips and their first response was to ask if we had photos to show if they did the damage or if it was already there!

Our kitchen was just redone, clearly everything in this is brand new. So we now have to get a quote to have the floor fixed so they can reimburse us for that. So our new Jenn-Air, upgraded fridge gets installed. They tell us it will take a few hours to get cold but it is recommended not to put food in it for 24 hours. Fine, however, 5 hours later, still nothing. Not one bit of cold air coming into this new fridge. So we call them up and tell them and we are told they will have to come back out to try and fix the new fridge. We asked them to return the fridge they just took out a few hours earlier but that was not an option. So we now went from a refrigerator that worked but didn't have a working ice maker to a hot refrigerator. They order a service call for the following Monday. They come out pull the part they say is broken out of the box and you guessed it the part doesn't fit this model.

At this point we call Jenn-Air and they offer us $200 to purchase coolers to put our food in that came out of a refrigerator that was full of food before they took our working fridge away. Are you kidding me! They then offer another $300 so we can buy a small refrigerator to put in the garage to hold the food we already had and needed put somewhere because the Jenn-Air model is on back order again until 2019. Not to mention they didn't even want to give us a new one, they wanted to just keep fixing this one that was broke. Yes a brand new refrigerator they thought was acceptable to make us keep letting them try to fix it instead of replacing it with a new one like we paid for. So needless to say this was not an acceptable long-term solution. Realize at this point it has been 11 1/2 months since we originally purchased our new refrigerator so we have been very patient and now we have a small fridge to keep all our food in.

So at this point we demanded to talk to a supervisor. She tried to help but production was out of her hand, all she could do was approve us to get a new one and try to get us moved to the top of the list. On November 12th, we received a call stating it was still on back order and wanted again to know if we just wanted a different model, we told Amanda again that wasn't an option because our kitchen was designed around the counter depth fridge and nothing else would fit. So we went back on the waitlist. We then get a call on November 16th from JB Hunt the delivery company that they were going to receive our fridge on Sunday or in the middle of the night Monday and would be at our house today November 19th between 12-4pm, and that we would get a 30 minute call ahead to let us know.

At 3:30 pm we hadn't heard from anyone and called JB Hunt to find out what was going on. They said they didn't receive the appliance from Whirlpool in time to get on the truck. They apologized that we sat around all day waiting and that no one bothered to call us but that Whirlpool was to blame. So we then called Whirlpool only to be hung up on the first time, then transferred to the "Customer experience" at Maytag. No, we didn't buy a Maytag so they had no idea who we were. So we called the Supervisor Camilla back and left a couple messages to find out where our fridge is. We then called the regular Jenn-Air line and we were told our fridge is on backorder still. We told them JB Hunt said they now have it but it was delivered late from Whirlpool.

Jenn-Air kept insisting it was on back order so they finally decided to call JB Hunt themselves and yes our fridge is in. Not sure why Jenn-Air didn't know they delivered a fridge but that's par for the course at this point. We asked to talk to a Supervisor again to find out why after waiting a year for a fully working refrigerator Jenn-Air. Couldn't even get it delivered on time when they had it, but as of 5:04 pm we are still waiting on a call back from someone at Jenn-Air. Crossing my fingers it will be delivered on Wednesday. Now like it is scheduled to be, but I am sure not holding my breath! Never again! And we buy a lot of appliances for our rehab homes. Guess we have to use the less expensive brands to get something that works right!

This is a poorly designed product on a number of levels. Within less than 1 year, I had to have the auto defrost mechanism replaced. The ice maker throws about 20% of the cubes on to the floor of the freezer instead of into catch bin. The flimsy plastic tabs on the veg/fruit drawers have broken off. Most importantly, the rubber gaskets which create a seal when you close the French doors have deteriorated.

The gaskets promote the build-up of mildew (what is that about?) and the rubber flanges at the top and bottom of the gaskets have broken off. I support all of the others who have taken the time to contribute to this review site who say, "DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!" When I attempted to call customer service, my wait time was in excess of 60 minutes and they offered to send out a repair service (costing $99) to diagnose the problem. There was no attempt at any kind of customer accommodation. (Model number: JFC2089WEM6; Serial Number: K13329578.)

I bought a Jenn-Air top of the line build in fridge model JF36NXFXDE01 back in November 2017. The fridge and the freezer stop cooling. It is a summertime in Los Angeles with temperatures over 90. I've been calling Jen-Air customer service, talked to many representatives and still don't have the problem fix. First they schedule service with Whirlpool service technicians. They came 3 times and were completely clueless. First they order the compressor, waited for a week and when installed it did not fix anything. Then they cancel two of their next appointments leaving me taking day off and waiting the whole day for nothing. Then they order more parts without even coming back to evaluate the problem.

Jenn-Air offer another company to take over but after 10 more days they haven't show up yet because Jenn-Air did not ship the parts on time. I got one of the managers Rita involved but the outcome was the same. She ensured me that the part will be ship on time so I can have the service company do the repair today or tomorrow. As of today the parts are not here and she is not returning my calls. When you call Jenn-Air customer service the recording says that "They CARE". Obviously they don't.

We purchased the complete Jenn-Air appliance package for our new home. The appliances have been installed for 4 weeks. Our refrigerator (Jenn-Air 48" Built-in Side by Side with water/ice dispenser) over temp alarm started going off Thursday night. Friday morning we were able to "reset" the temperatures. The alarm went off again late Friday and we were able to get a repair technician out to look at the fridge. He checked the condenser and found no issues, he hit the reset button again and lowered the temperature. By Saturday morning the alarm was going off again, however we were unable to hit the reset button as the button no longer works.

As of Sunday afternoon every single item in the freezer and fridge has been thrown in the garbage. The temperature in the freezer and fridge were reading 66 degrees. It is now Monday and Jenn-Air will send another technician out to look at the refrigerator. I am not a person who would ever write a negative review as I believe sometimes things just happen, however, I am so disappointed with this Jenn-Air fridge. On December 24, 2013 the Jenn-Air 42" JS42SEDBDA built-in refrigerator had overheated and was sitting at oven temperatures. Luckily our holiday meal was in the Kenmore refrigerator in the garage and we caught the "fire" in time to save all the frozen food and much of the refrigerated stuff. That unit was originally purchased in January 2006, what caused the meltdown/fire was the compressor it overheated. When we initially contacted Jenn-Air we were told it was out of warranty and that we were out of luck. Not so fast. I called and mentioned that the meltdown/fire was a life safety issue. Jenn-Air needs to send out a repair person to verify the fire. The person that comes out is horribly unprofessional and his company has now been refused entrance into our home. They review the information and decide to replace the unit at a prorated cost - basically 40% off the MSRP taxes and delivery included.

February 2014, our "new" Jenn-Air 42" built-in JS42PPDUDB16 is delivered, the company that was chosen for the delivery has never delivered a built-in and they proceed to lay it on its back multiple times, and damage our fence and interior ceiling in the process of the delivery and installation. With all the jockeying they managed to cut the water line, so we had to have that repaired. Three months later the compressor fan and chip go out. The repair technician requests that Jenn-Air replace the sealed unit or the refrigerator in total. Jenn-Air refuses. October 2017, this unit catches fire as well. Only it doesn't have a meltdown just a burn mark on the divider between the refrigerator and the freezer.

I call their safety department again, a repair person is sent out. The repair person calls Jenn-Air's service department to get the diagnostic codes and is refused and told to tell me (the customer) that the refrigerator is fine and to start using it again. Uh no, I call the safety department and the repair person tells them that the unit is getting overheated to the point in 20 minutes that it's difficult to touch with a gloved hand. Jenn-Air Safety makes two offers: 1) Repair the unit at no cost to us, 2) we can purchase a new unit ($8,300.00 or less) for $3,600.00 any unit over that we would have to pay the overage in addition to the $3,600.00 because they no longer make that unit. Before the repair person leaves it starts chiming a sign the motherboard has failed, and when being powered off at the main switch it arched. Repair at this point is out of the question.

We go on their website the only refrigerator that is close to what we have costs $9,599.00, so our out of pocket would have been $4,899.00. We paid $5036.40 for the 2nd unit. That takes this unit close to the price of a Sub Zero. There is another round of calls and we push for a buyback. We are still waiting for the check. In conclusion we feel that Jenn-Air JS42 model refrigerators are life safety hazards and should not be sold. We will not buy a Whirlpool Corporation product ever again.

They'd get NO Star if that was possible on this review. I am into eighteen (18) months and 10 trips with a Service Technician trying to get these drawers to function like a Refrigerator. The issue started with frayed cables from rubbing against the gliders causing an alarm to go off. The cables got replaced but the unit started to operate as a FREEZER instead of a Fridge. Numerous attempts to change both the Controller and the Display panel and I'm still stuck with a Freezer. For the price of this unit, this guys should be tripping over themselves to FIX this and do it right.

We have a 48" built-in Jenn-Air refrigerator that is 12 years old. Original price was over $7,000 plus an extra $1,500 for the door panels. Recently, the door spring broke so there is no longer any tension on the door (very large heavy door). The door will no longer close properly and is also a safety hazard for our 3 young children. Jenn-Air decided to stop making the spring in 2012. I have searched high and low (google, eBay, Mom and Pop repair shops, etc.) for this part (or a similar one) w/o any luck. Jenn-Air's response was basically "too bad" and that our only option was to replace the fridge! Over a $21 part! The newer version is now $8500 plus new panels (the door front size is now different of course). Our entire kitchen is Jenn-Air (over $25k invested). In retrospect, buying Jenn-Air appliances is one of the biggest mistakes we made during our kitchen remodel. Avoid this brand at all costs!

The Jenn-Air Refrigerator js48ppdbda was installed in 2007, it has been working fine till about 6 months back. There was a noise that would come on intermittently. This noise went away eventually but the freezer was not maintaining the temp. After doing some research it turned out to be the evaporator fan. Bought this online and replaced it. However the core issue was ice developing in the freezer which probably caused the fan to ice up and fail. Called in a local technician. The moisture from the heat exchanger was not flowing out to the drain. This was causing moisture in the freezer, hence the ice build up. He cleaned the heat exchanger thoroughly and the fridge is back up and running. After 9 years expecting a few issues, hopefully the experience going forward will be better than some of the reviews below.

Things are always falling off the back of the shelves. This seems like a serious design flaw to me. Especially when glass bottles fall off I'm afraid something is going to break. We remodeled our home a few years ago which included the remodeling of our kitchen. As part of the appliances purchased for our newly remodeled kitchen included a Jenn-Air Side By Side Refrigerator with water dispenser and ice maker Model #JSD2695KES. Within the last three years of owning the refrigerator we have had trouble with the dispensing of water. The water dispensing function with the unit has failed to work properly and reduced the dispensing of water to a dribble. Also, the door on the right side knocks upon closing and become increasingly work to the point that it will not close firmly causing air to escape through the door seal.

After at least five (5) years of owning this Jenn-Air Refrigerator Side by Side unit I will give credit to it's reliable cooling performance, both for its freezer and refrigerator until... however, all the same, for a unit that cost over $2,000 I would have expected a lot more. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this Jenn Air product and would be very skeptical and hesitant from purchasing a any Jenn Air product again.

We bought a Jenn-Air French door refrigerator in August 2015. At first we thought it was great. But then the left door broke. It was repaired. It broke 4 more times. We do have a warranty but we have to call every other week to have someone come and repair the door again. There is obviously a design flaw that makes the left hand door only work when the right have door is closed first. Since then we have made many calls to Jenn-Air and they have told us over and over that they have no knowledge of this problem. Further research shows a U-Tube video that discusses this problem.

If the door does not close completely part of the refrigerator is colder than the other and it makes the compressor work harder. We have talked to the company we bought it from, who assured us it was the best that they carried and they have no clue. Luckily we did buy the extended warranty so I guess the repairmen can keep coming to our home every other week to repair the same problem. This is the worst 3700 we have ever spent!

When we remodeled our kitchen 8 years ago, we bought a Jenn-Air french-door refrigerator, all appliances were black. We were disappointed in the fridge within a couple of years - small things that didn't open or close properly, drawer covers that came off unexpectedly, etc. Then, after a mere 8 years, it began to freeze everything inside the refrigerator compartment. Diagnosis: The motherboard is burned out, also possibly the control panel. Other news: they don't make this motherboard anymore and the one they do make will not communicate with your control panel. "You can get a rebuilt or aftermarket motherboard but you have to order it yourself and then call us back after you get it", etc., etc., and it still may not work (just sayin'). Oh, and PS, they don't make the black anymore either- just stainless steel.

We were speechless - very expensive fridge, and oops, "guess you just have to get a new one but too bad you can't get a new one that matches your still new kitchen." In the end we did replace the fridge (at a couple of thousand bucks, still cheaper than replacing the various parts and gambling that they would work together). We replaced it with a KitchenAid, same style, black, looks great and we can only hope it functions better as well. Along the way, the various repairmen we had in mentioned that nowadays these fancy fridges are built to last only about 9-10 years. In itself that is outrageous and we didn't even make the minimum life expectancy. Jenn-Air representatives were unhelpful (and could have cared less) all along the way. This company wouldn't know the meaning of Customer Service if their lives depended on it. All in all a completely unsatisfactory experience!

We will NEVER buy Jenn-Air products again and will vigorously advise everyone we can, not to buy them either. Jenn-Air supposedly has a good reputation but I can't imagine why they must hire a PR firm and pay them handsomely to say nice things because neither their appliances nor their personnel speak well for them at all. JFC2290 - I bought a Jenn-Air French-door refrigerator in February 2014.The French door design of this refrigerator is seriously flawed. If you open the right door first, which most people will do, then open the left door, a normal next step, and close the right door, the left door will smash against the glass of the right door when you try to close it. The problem lies in the fact that the hinge attached to the left door does not retract far enough to clear the right door. This is my third French-door refrigerator (other brands) and I have never had this problem before.

Here is what Jenn-Air has to say in their user guide: There are two refrigerator compartment doors. The doors can be opened and closed either separately or together. There is a vertically-hinged seal on the left refrigerator door. When the left side door is opened, the hinged seal automatically folds inward so that it is out of the way. I bought this fridge over a year ago and have had at least three different repairmen come more than six times to try and repair it. They have changed the hinge twice, to no avail. They have installed shims to level the back of the fridge, no improvement. I called again today and they are sending a new technician to view the situation. I am not holding out much hope.

Not quite two years ago we bought a French door Jenn Air refrigerator for over $2000. After about 9 months it required a service call when the ice maker quit producing ice. I just paid for another service call and replacement of the ice maker which I was told had failed. This is unacceptable. What is really upsetting about it is that the Jenn Air replaced a really good quality Electrolux refrigerator which had the same problem with the ice maker. Electrolux even replaced the refrigerator, and the problems continued with the new one. So now we have a cheesy refrigerator and still no reliable ice maker. I'm furious.

The other problem is the way the doors close. Because of a flange, only the right hand door closes properly. We most often open the left hand door, because that's where the water dispenser is. The Electrolux closed automatically. With the Jenn Air I have to make a special effort to make sure it is closed completely, or about a minute later, just as I sit down, the refrigerator starts beeping at me. Closing a refrigerator door shouldn't be a two handed job.

A couple of years ago we splurged and bought a new counter-depth stainless Jenn-Air refrigerator--dutch-doors, bottom freezer, ice maker in freezer and chilled water tap inside the refrigerator. My understanding is this is essentially an Amana-made unit; both brands are owned by Whirlpool. It has been nothing but trouble, with the following issues experienced in no particular order:

    1. Ice maker stopped working after 6 mos. Repairman said we need a new unit, offered no hope that it would last any longer than the first one.
    2. Ice started freezing on bottom of freezer, then periodically melting and flooding our kitchen floor. Repairman replaced a drain valve with a re-designed one (said the original design's rubber gets gummy and sticks closed--after one year!) at $50 plus labor.
    3. Top edges of both fruit/veggie bins have broken in normal use. Now they don't slide in or stay in properly.
    4. Shelves don't have a significant lip, and especially with the shallow shelves of the counter-depth model, items fall out the front easily. Jars dent the thin stainless sheet metal of the top of the freezer drawer. Our new fridge looks like we've been beating on it with a hammer!
    5. Doors' magnets are failing - doors don't close easily, and when you push one door shut firmly, the other door pops ajar. It's a subtle event and I can't count the number times I've found a door left that way.

    6. The door ajar alert rarely works anymore - especially annoying in view of the doors-popping-open issue.

So I am totally discouraged. I thought the one thing America still does well is appliances, and that Amana's designs were supposed to be the best of them. Doesn't the Whirlpool monopoly test its products?!?!? WTF? Please let me know how I should proceed and let me know if there's a class-action suit. Meanwhile, I guess I'll start looking at import brands?

JS42PPDBDA - We first purchased a JADE in 2007. In less than a week it developed a strange problem of covering the first person in the morning with water. Although this was funny, it did not lead to a good marriage so after multiple phone calls to Maytag (and rusting and hardwood floor water damage), we "luckily" were given a replacement of this wonderful Jenn-Air. It worked fairly well until the day the warranty expired and then great "ICE UP" of 2013! This happened several times during the summer wasting huge amounts of food. Ice build up then it would stop cooling. 5 Years for a 7,500 fridge? There is a MAYTAG service warning issued in July of 2008, not one appliance person knew about it. Funny it had my exact "model affected". I had one "factory" fella charge me $200 for defrosting with a hair dryer! Shockingly- that did not work but of course! He was GONE (and did not return phone calls).

So I am fairly certain that the evaporator drain tray is bad since it matches ALL of the symptoms. I did find out that when I re-leveled the fridge (house had settled) the useable time between freezings lengthened to approximately 6 weeks (better than a week). The newly designed evaporator drain tray costs $200 and I have heard labor is over $200. So is it worth $400 to prolong the life? After reading all the other problems I am a little concerned. So today, I get to run all my food to my friend's house and defrost it again. I do have the cleanest fridge in town, thanks to Jenn-Air's faulty design! I keep visiting my new sub zero fridge at the store. Thinking of a Youtube where I get to smash it with a sledgehammer- might get enough hits to offset the cost differential!

After the motherboard failed again (along with other problems), JennAir FINALLY agreed to replace the fridge with a new one, after hours of haggling up the customer service hierarchy.

Without being able to opt for a different model, we had our new fridge delivered in 2007. While the issues with the motherboard appear to have been solved with the later model, it has had just as many problems as the old one. We have once again replaced multiple parts through a purchased extended warranty. The current problem is that the freezer temp, while set to zero, rises occasionally to as high as 17 degrees. Plus, since the two cooling drawers within the refrigerator side are supposedly cooled with air from the freezer, those drawer temps have risen as well, spoiling some food. We are currently waiting on our 3rd service call to address this cooling issue, after they (1st) replaced the compressor, and (2nd) replaced some hoses/lines. Needless to say, the continual process of calling and scheduling repairs is very time-consuming, and the JennAir warranty service is extremely disorganized.

For a product that is priced at $5-7k, it is astounding how poor the quality is. Making matters worse is JennAir's poor attempt at customer service and complete lack of acknowledgement of how bad these products are. It took an act of congress to replace my first fridge (and they likely profited on this 2-year old model by selling parts for scraps), and now my latest one is having just as many problems, and their response continues to be, "that's what your extended warranty is for." They simply don't care.

While I'm not looking forward to making another large investment in a fridge, I will soon be looking to replace it for a second time and will be staying far away from anything JennAir, and that includes all things Whirlpool as well (parent company). The premium charged by SubZero, Viking, etc. appears to be warranted, given how horrible the quality of JennAir is. Worst purchase ever.

We had had a Jenn-Air stove for 28 years and hardly any problems so that is why we purchased all new. The microwave had problems from day one. After replacing an element at least four times finally got a new one. The refrigerator, the shelf broke. Then a crisper drawer. Had to order two as the first did not fit and the second does not match. The stove had a large dent in the warming door when it was delivered so they replaced that. Also had a minor problem with the dishwasher. The biggest mistake in the world purchasing these. Have talked to Jenn-Air many times and they are not very helpful.

When we met with manufacturer representatives and local residences of the community we were coached on using the appliances be able to use more out of the features. We were told that this refrigerator would keep vegetables and fruits longer than cheaper models. Two weeks were not unusual.

Well, does it NOT keep them longer. I really think it shortens up the rotting process and shelf life of not only fresh product but cheese as well. We had to have the ice maker replaced 6 weeks after we moved in. I am thoroughly disgusted with this product and caught between the builder and the manufacturer. I purchased the refrigerator in 2007 and it has been a nightmare. The very first year I had problems and my food spoiled. I was under warranty. The repair person came out several days later and repaired the problem however the company refused to reimbursement me for my loses. The following year the buttons located on the panel that houses the ice maker, crushed ice and water selection has a lock and unlock section and one day no water would dispense and an annoying beeping mechanism beeped for weeks and I could not get water or ice during the period. I called Jenn Air and they wanted to send a repair person. I refused to pay for the service and one day the beeping stopped and the water and ice started to work again.

Every year the beeping starts and I cannot use the water and ice and I just weather the storm. Also every year the panel inside the refrigerator malfunctions and everything freezes in the refrigerator. I troubleshoot and try to push the arrows to get the temperature to 38 degrees and it will after a second go back to freezing mode. I have to throw away all of my vegetables such as lettuce and tomatoes and the like. My eggs freeze, yogurt, milk, cream, jellies and everything else in the refrigerator. I thought that was bad and three days ago the reverse happened the inside refrigerator temperature went up to 70 degrees and of course, my food spoiled and molded. Again I tried adjusting the temperature to 38 degrees and as soon as I released the arrow button it went back to 70 degrees. I tried turning off the fridge and turning it back on. I reset filter after replacing it. The freezer temperature is at 14 degrees.

I called customer service and was told that it seems I had done all the troubleshooting so they could offer me a repair plus one service and it would cost me $369.95 and warrant it for a year. I asked what happens if the same problem happened after 13 months - as I figured I would be up the creek without a paddle. Courtney, the woman I talked to said she was sorry that I had so many problems and said I should call back to schedule the repair because I explained I was retired and I did not have money to pay out each year for the refrigerator. The fridge had cost me several thousand dollars and the most expensive fridge and the worst I had ever had. Also I mentioned that I would never purchase another Jenn Air refrigerator.

The company does not care and not concerned about the customer/consumer. They sell this inferior expensive product and you are left holding the bag for the large purchase when it fails to work. I am going to call the better business bureau. They are just ripping off the consumer with the inferior expensive refrigerator. Their customer relations is the worst I have ever encountered. I hope this will help others to make more informed decisions when they need a refrigerator and not throw their money away without any recourse as I have done.

The installation instructions for the custom made panels for the built-in refrigerator were impossible to follow and were erroneous. Getting in touch with Jenn-Air to acquire correct information was a long lasting nightmare. In symphony, the push button controls inside the fridge do not work as they should.

The Dishwasher's computer control board required replacing after less than one year! The parts were covered by warranty. However, we received a $160.00 bill for the labor. We contested the charge and were finally reimbursed after 6 months of chasing Jenn-Air. The stove's front controls are too low and not legible, i.e. the control panel color is dark grey and the writing & numbers are light grey! Jenn-Air redesigned the front panel so the numbers and letters are now white on a grey background - marginally better - but the panel is still too low and angled too far forward to be easily read by the user. One would logically think that a massive company such as Whirlpool would test their designs to insure they are user friendly and ergonomic before production. This sadly is not the case!!

This note was sent to JENN-AIR by mail and email (8/5/13):

... the design of the coils needs attention & the bottom drawer has terrible design! I feel the designer/engineers need to understand and be in the HOMEOWNER'S shoes. Get on the floor and try to clean around the coils. The coils are horizontal to the front and wrap upward. I think the design has to d/t better dissipation of heat. The problem with the coils so close to the floor, and with no access other than two holes about the size of quarter, they will be near impossible to clean them.

My understanding is you need the coils cleared of dust for better efficiency. Even my pencil size attachment for the vacuum is no help. And one can't clean in anyway the bottom coil, as it is TOO close to the floor. This is going to be a constant headache and nightmare, and I am very disappointed in the unit. That is one issue. Since the front kick plate looks fashionable & looks nice, in my opinion, it not functional. It is very difficult to remove

The next problem: The bottom of the freezer housing will be near impossible to access to clean. The previous model we could take out the drawer f or access. All I had to do was push in a little lever from each side, slide out, and tip up and it came out. This one is in a fixed position that I will never be able to get it out at all (We had the ice maker removed as we won't be using, as we have NO water supply). It probably could be done, but at great effort.

RE DRAWER: This is the most flimsy drawer I have ever had in all fridge/bottom freezer. I had a service call from Standard because it felt like it rubbed on the right and when it was pulled out, it jerked to the left, in the first 2-4 inches. And sometimes it does it from the left and jerks right. The tech states that is normal, and just pull it from the middle. IT makes no difference where my hands are on the handle it still catches and JERKS. IT is an annoyance. Quite frankly, I am NOT happy with it but we have to live with it now we purchased.

We purchased our Jenn-Air appliances in 2008. The pivoting dividers in the dishwasher racks have all broken - and we are by no means hard on our appliances. The only cycle that gets the dishes cleaned properly is the "Heavy" one - if you use any other, you have to examine each dish when unloading to check for debris. During 25% of the cycles, it makes a very loud grinding noise, and now it is spewing small grease spots on the dishes.

The microwave comes on by itself. So far it shuts itself off after 2-3 minutes, but it worries me that if this happens when we are away and it doesn't shut off, it could be a fire hazard. The refrigerator is almost impossible to get regulated properly with the temperature settings. I have had many fruits and vegetables freeze when the control has been set above a freezing temperature. I didn't notice before we bought the refrigerator, but the fruit and vegetable drawers are so unbelievably shallow with an angled back wall that they won't even hold a week's worth of produce. We have not had any issues with our stovetop or built-in wall oven.

I do not want to purchase Jenn-Air again, but we purchased the black glass models and it won't be easy to replace them with anything that will match the ones that we are not having problems with. The most frustrating part is that Whirlpool - who makes Maytag and Jenn-Air - doesn't care. I know this because we replaced our last appliances which were high-end Maytag, and which were also junk with Jenn-Air thinking that the next level up would have to be better, but they are not. Ten years ago, the board short-circuited leaving us with inches of standing water on our kitchen floor and surrounding rooms. We had to get our flooring replaced. We went ahead with replacing the circuit board (guaranteed not to do this again) since the fridge was only 4 years old at the time. The repairman told us that this circuit board issue was a known problem by Maytag, so we got the board as evidence for the State Farm adjuster to use to subrogate against Maytag. State Farm was successful and we got our deductible back.

Guess what? The circuit board fried again recently! Luckily, the water discharge hadn't gone on for very long and was remediated successfully. I am now shopping for a replacement and will never buy a Maytag refrigerator again. Two times for water discharges like that? Poor quality and bad PR for what was a premiere brand.

It’s worked fine at first but over the past 1+ years we've had problems that have cost us just under $1,000 in repair and lost food. Because this has never happened with other appliances, we assumed it was our bad luck and simply paid to make up the loss. Unfortunately, we've had more problems and were told we need a new compressor (cost estimate for this repair is at least $600). Since we have already spent at least $2,000 (counting the initial price, repairs plus lost food), the appliance store representative told us to contact Jenn-Air service and explain the problem. They felt that although we are well past the standard 5-year warranty that Jenn-Air would "work with" us.

Unfortunately for us, once the Jenn-Air service representative realized that we were over the warranty period, she said she couldn't do anything for us. At first, she did not even want to help us find a qualified service company in our area (our appliance store couldn't do 'sealed system' repairs). After we objected, the repair rep said they had a list of reliable techs in our area and agreed to contact them. However, it turns out that none of these companies were either capable or available which would have been even more frustrating for us to learn on our own. Finally, she agreed to call a 'nationwide' service group and set up an appointment.

We told the Jenn-Air rep that we understood that we were over the warranty period but that they had a reputation for customer service and asked for help on the cost of the part at the least. We were transferred to a manager who simply denied our request but said she would 'document' the problem for the record. This is a major repair for a unit that is not old enough to need it and which has not been misused in any way. Given the investment we have made in Jenn-Air, we felt we deserved better. Unfortunately, this company does not appear to agree. As a result, our advice to anyone considering a Jenn-Air appliance in the future is to buy a less-expensive model or, better yet, buy from another company.

We purchased our Jenn-Air counter-depth stainless steel refrigerator in September 2005. The compressor recently failed. The service tech who diagnosed the failure suggested not wasting any money attempting to repair a Jenn-Air. The company from where we purchased the refrigerator suggested we call Jenn-Air, but not to expect much. After several failed attempts at reaching anyone at Jenn-Air who knows anything about their products, the company attempted to contact their Jenn-Air representative on our behalf, but could not get a return call. They apologized and explained it was typical of Jenn-Air and that the Jenn-Air representative was slack. Then while looking at new refrigerators at Lowe's, the Lowe's appliance sales manager told us that they will not even carry Jenn-Air any more since they are so problematic.

What an education. The Jenn-Air that cost me $2,400 required three service calls during its life, only to die at less than 7 years of age. Meanwhile, my old 16-year old refrigerator in the basement (not a Jenn-Air) that cost me $500 is still humming along. And for anyone reading this post, the advice I have received has been unanimous - buy a Whirlpool. No one wants to touch a Jenn-Air.

Refrigerator runs too warm! Ruins food! - I have had a 48" side-by-side Jenn-Air since September 2009. The following summer, I noticed that the temperature in the refrigerator section was running between 46 to 50 degrees. When the serviceman ran "diagnostics," he said (despite the inside temperature being so high!) that it was running fine. I had another repairman come, whose advice was to replace the damper which controls the air flow between the refrigerator and the freezer (apparently on these refrigerators, since there is only one compressor, the cold air cools the freezer (which works fine) and the damper allows cold air into the refrigerator half to allow it to cool down).

The fridge seemed to work fine until we noticed, around the holidays, that when the fridge was full, the temperature again went up to a balmy 45 to 50 degrees. Jenn-Air has a customer service number which allows you to speak to a bunch of people who listen to your complaint, but have no authority to do anything about it! They refuse to give out any numbers to reach a "higher authority!" and have no solution to my problem. As someone else pointed out, they are very quick to point out that the machine is no longer under warranty! I have complained to the dealer who is attempting to assist me, but since he never returns a call, I get the feeling that he has no solution either.

OK, my suggestion to anyone reading this review: I have no innate anger towards Jenn-Air, but I am definitely sorry that I did not kick in the extra bucks to purchase a Sub-Zero, which is what I had prior to the Jenn-Air. Big mistake! I'm not saying that over the 22 years that I owned the machine I had no problems. I did, but they were always resolved! Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for a Sub-Zero or other brand. Don't waste your time and money, or you'll end up being another "happy" customer adding your review to this site! Buyers beware!

I purchased a Jenn-Air fridge 3 years ago, and needed service for the first time, when it was 6 months old. All the food in the fridge started freezing (that's one load of lost food). The service guy came, said the bottom freezer drawer wasn't closing properly. Okay. A few months, after we had the same problem (second lost load of food), the service guy came said it was the door hinge, and that we shouldn't keep food in the fridge near the walls, because the air from the freezer comes up from the back and that's what cools the fridge.

Yes, it's not a great design, he said. Okay, so we lived with this for many months then we kicked into our "extended warranty". Now the big problems begin, but not to go into all the nasty frustrating details. This is where we are now. Our fridge has had the compressor replaced when the entire thing shut down and, oh wait, (another load of food lost, that makes 4 or 5, I can't remember). Now we have had a total of 5 service calls to repair it, with no success, and finally today, the service man said it's "unrepairable".

We have not had a fridge for almost 3 weeks now! But hey wait, GE, the extended warranty people say hey, this is a manufacturer issue, and the manufacturer says, this is what we are going to do, we will set up a service appointment with 2 guys, and have them take the entire fridge apart, and piece by piece we will replace anything not working properly, and then put it all back together, and it should be fixed.

Okay, now you tell me, is this totally insane? They obviously are not going to do anything. They are waiting for me to just give up, and go out and buy another fridge, which I may end up doing, but if I do that, you can believe, it will not be anything manufactured by Whirlpool. They truly suck!

In 2005, we purchased a side-by-side Jenn-Aire JS42CSFXDA. First problem was that the water to the ice-maker was not shutting off. When I opened the freezer door, I had a few gallons of water on my hardwood floor. No one could figure out why so they bypassed the filter and now it works. I was able to do this because I have a water filter on my main line anyway. Next the ice-maker stopped working. They replaced the ice maker but that didn't fix the problem. Next a circuit board was replaced. That didn't work. Finally, after a second replacement of the ice-maker I now have ice again.

Next problem was the freezer dripping inside and icing up. The problem was the drain hose was frozen. The solution was to let everything defrost for a couple of days, check to make sure that nothing was clogging the hose and then put everything back together. That lasted for about 3 months and then icing again occurred. The same procedure was followed with a slight modification to the drain hose. 6 months later, frozen again. No one seems to know why; I've seen this problem rampant on the Internet with Jenn-aire.

I have been the unhappy, surprised owner of these two Jenn-Air appliances since 2005. (I was surprised because of Jenn-Air's reputation). Both products failed quickly and their design flaws are significant.

The French three-door fridge (JFC2089 HES) has had parts replaced after the one-year warranty. (I've had three service calls in a two-year period; this contrasts with one service call over 20 years for my GE fridge). The inside water tap, the produce and meat drawers, and the water filter element are all difficult to use and move. The water tap is hard to press, the drawers do not slide in and out easily (and usually require special tugs and adjustments), and the water filter replacement is a task that I dread having to do because it is so physically difficult to do.

For the last two years, the doors do not close properly and one has to close them by hand; otherwise frost starts to build up inside. I was told that it would cost too much to have these doors repaired (very poor design flaws). The cook top (JEC9530) is pure nightmare. Within the first six months of owning it, the "smart" Custom Control burner in the front failed six times. And I had to have someone come, repair and replace it for six times before Jenn-Air owned up to the fact that it was a lemon and replaced the cook top.

And sure enough, within one year, the burner failed again and I had to pay $500 to have it replaced. And, you guessed it, it failed within 18 months. I am not going to pay another $500 for this cook top which was clearly a loser all along. I was told by the serviceman that he has made a lot of money replacing these burners and that it was clearly designed poorly. He told me to buy another brand.

I wish I had bought GE--my neighbors redid their kitchen at the same time I did with GE Profile (my oven is also GE Profile). All have operated flawlessly since purchase. I cannot afford a new fridge and cook top but, boy, are these products disappointing and a terrible investment on my part. Any advice?

The refrigerator's main problem (which reflects the problems with all of our Jenn-Air appliances) is small, but terminally aggravating. It cools well, makes ice well, does all the basic functions well, but the cover of the lower, all-across drawer, once removed a single time for cleaning, continues to pop off no matter how many times or how carefully you replace it on its pintles. Every teensy part of a refrigerator should be removable for cleaning and afterward, should still work like a charm. We removed this cover one time to clean following a spill (common household occurrence) and it has been faulty ever since. It will not stay in place more than a few days, pops off at least once a week. This is enough to make you hate your refrigerator since you have to open this cover many times each week and it needs to remain functional.

In the never ending saga of trying to get my new Jen-Air appliances working, I finally sent a complaint to the Alabama State Attorney General's Office, Division of Consumer complaints. Carol from the Executive Offices at Jenn-Air contacted me a couple of weeks ago after the third service company, Alabama Power, came out to service the appliances. Neither appliance has worked properly since the day they were installed.

The head engineer, Mr. Phil **, from Alabama Power told me that my fridge was working properly, even though my food is freezing. He turned up the refrigerator temperature to 41 degrees and the freezer to 5 degrees. Also, I should not use the shelves on the upper part of my refrigerator because the temperature is colder in that part of the fridge. Our manual thermometer reads in the danger zone for food spoiling. One-third of my refrigerator has been rendered unusable and the food is still freezing as it was on all the shelves of the fridge. Jenn-Air stated there was nothing more to do to fix the fridge, according to Carol ** of Jenn Air. The result was loss of even more food, cost of a new refrigerator for the garage ($500.00) and the electricity to run another appliance, one that should not be needed.

They sent out a repairman on July 28th who replaced the old burnt part with the retro fit part. Due to the fire, the repair filed paper work reporting that it was not repairable due to the fire.

On the 29h, they gave us the options of replacing the unit at its depreciation price or giving us the depreciation value. We discussed it and felt the purchase of the new unit would be best. We ordered a JF12589AEP on July 30th for $700. On July 30th, Lorna quoted 7 to 10 days for delivery. She said we would hear from a delivery company to set up delivery. Maytag charged our credit card 7/30 for the replacement unit.

On August 5th, I placed numerous calls and left two messages to discuss the status of the delivery. I did not receive a return call. On August 6th, I started all over again. I talked with Monica ext. ** and Lorna ext. **. I was told that the unit we ordered is in production and will not be in stock until August 19th. At that time, delivery will be scheduled. On the 19th, we will have gone 26 days, 18 business days without a refrigerator.

To back track, our refrigerator caught on fire! My husband and I were running 5 minutes late to go to our son’s soccer game and as we were leaving, I heard a popping noise coming from the refrigerator. I then saw smoke! I called my husband who pulled it out from the wall and at that time, saw flames shooting out of the rear of the unit! We have a 13 year old daughter who we were leaving at home alone. Had she been in her room, she would not have heard the sound nor seen the smoke. She would not have been aware until the fire set of the smoke alarms.

At that time, she would not have been able to pull the unit from the wall and unplug it to put out the fire. What would have she had done and would she have been upstairs with her music playing as our home burned below. Maytag’s response has been anything but responsive. We are very lucky everyone is okay and that damage was not done to our home. We have not been lucky with solving the problem of no refrigerator. We are buying bags of us every other day now, the first week each day to fill coolers. We had quests in town the first week. We are running to the store for daily and eating out due to no place to store food.

Our Jenn-Air refrigerator was purchased in 2001. It was 8 years old and in very good condition. We purchased a brand we felt was designed to hold up. It did, other than the recalled part that has safety issues! This is crazy what can you do for us.

We received a recall letter involving our 6-year old Jenn-Air side-by-side refrigerator. Their tech came out on June 3rd to replace the "defective" part. My fridge was working perfectly until they "fixed" it. I ended up being without a refrigerator for 2 weeks! The person I spoke to about our food loss and about getting my fridge working again was extremely rude and unhelpful. My husband and I finally went and bought a new fridge (after their tech had been out 5 times and had been unable to fix it). Then I received a phone call from Ms. Sarah ** telling me that they were going to give me a new unit but that I had to pay the difference because of the age of my original refrigerator (which worked fine before they touched it!). I will never have a Whirlpool product in my home again!

Not only did I lose over $600.00 worth of food, but I had to go to the store everyday to buy food because I had no refrigeration. I live in the country so this was not an easy task. I also have severe arthritis and hauling spoiled food out and new food in was quite painful.

On January 24th 2009 my Jenn Aire side by side refrigerator had stopped cooling during the night, there was an electrical burning smell and the smell of burning plastic. The service man came and determined the starter relay had burned and melted onto the compressor.
The estimate was $600 to repair since they had to also replace the compressor (which was working) due to melted parts on it. I couldn't afford to put that much money into an 8 year old refrigerator and had it hauled away. I am presently using an old refrigerator from the garage. In March 2009 Maytag issued a recall for my refrigerator for the exact problem I had. I contacted them via email and provided multiple pieces of information on the problem I had and the fact the refrigerator was removed rather than repaired. I asked them to simply reimburse the $59 service call since it was a known problem and they were willing to fix it in 1.6 million refrigerators. They first claimed I didn't have the correct part number (for the replacement part that wasn't put in). Then it was that I no longer had the refrigerator. The bottom line is that this refrigerator had a defective part, the part caught fire and destroyed the refrigerator and they won't make any effort to even reimburse the service call to discover this problem because it was prior to the national recall. I guess it is easier to delay as long as possible on a safety recall and then penalize those people who had the safety problem and were damaged prior to the recall.

He said it was beyond repair. He removed the refrigerator and we had no choice but to buy a new one on the spot. A month later I heard about the recall. I called the hotline and was told our model was subject to the recall. When I told them we had already replaced it, they said there was nothing they could do or WOULD do. The previous owner had a Jenn-Air fridge in the kitchen when we inspected of our new home - we liked the look of it, the fact it had an ice-maker and chilled water dispenser. As we were going to now live in the sub-tropics, we decided upon & purchased the newest model at $A4554.00 in Mar 02 (probably the most expensive on the market at the time). Since its purchase we have serviced the fridge many times for various reasons but more often to attend to faults with the ice-maker. Other problems have been with heaters, thermostats and doors not closing snuggly and therefore not cooling effiiently.

In 2003 I purchased a Jenn Air side by side stainless refrigerator. The refrigerator was not installed until June of 2003 due to construction of home. Once installed, a new compressor had to be ordered. I called on July 3 2003 and Jenn Air said the compressor was on back order. We survived with another frige in our basement. I began loosing foods due to temperature problems and ice building up in the freezer. I began calling Jenn Air about the problem. They told me that they would send a tech to fix it. I took off work and Amicalola Repair came out and said "I don't work on built-ins". I called Jenn Air again and they sent another tech out **another day off work** and they too did not work on built-ins. More food was being lost, more ice building up in the freezer. Ice hanging from vents, etc. in the freezer. Temperature increases and all food is lost from frige and freezer again. I called 423-472-3333 and 800-688-9900 3 X and spoke with Kathy Leslie. She told me to speak with Eric at factory seervice. To get service for my problem, he told me to contact Anna. I gave Anna my name, address and telephone #. I asked for an address to write Jenn Air and was given 240 Edwards St. S.E. Cleveland, TN 37311. I told Anna I wanted to write a letter about the problems with this product. At this point, I was transferred to Liz Chandler, Director of Consumer Contact. Told her my problems and she transferred me to Randy. I told him of my problems and he apologized. He said he would send me $300.00 for the food looses. I told Randy my refrigerator had gone hot so many times that we now were using basement kenmore. We use blow dryer to get ice out of the back panel of the freezer. I'm not talking about small ice deposits...I'm talking about ice aprox 3 inches thick in behind the back panel of the freezer and about 5 feet high. Randy calls A & E says Ken Stone from Atlanta Branch would be in Van #42 would be out to fix the problem. (Another day off work) I took off for his appointment. Dispatcher called me scheduled the appointment. Phillis was in scheduling department. She told me someone would call me. Spoke with Faith 1-800-462-9824 and on 3/8/04 Ken Stone from A & K came out to work on the refrigerator. At this time, parts had already been sent to my address. The following was replaced: Switch limit, lower hinge, kit door hing, switch, kit control board, valve water, water valve, shelf spillproof, drain pan hose was trimmed. Next day, ice build up again. I called 1-866-550-5136 X 3683 for Randy. Ken Stone was sent back with a Drain Pan installation. I had no problems for a little while and then began having ice build up again. Another drain pan was replaced. Did good for a little while. Ice began to form, I ignored it, then, ice was melting in the bottom of the ice ben and then refreezing. The auger could not dispense the ice because it was frozen solid. Finally on December 3,2008 I called again (knowing I'd be off work and I could get a repair man without taking off). I spoke to Jesse she said to turn off frige at main to reset electronics. For months I had been taking the ice ben out and taking hot water to melt the pool of frozen ice around the auger. Finally, I call on the 8th again and #800-462-9824 speak with someone who says they did not have any record of my services nor of Ken Stone. Finally spoke with Samantha who told me that the dran pan in this model of refrigerator was defective. She helped to get service. Luckily I called Forsyth and Integrity both which did not work the Dahlonega area. One of the men I spoke with knew Ken Stone said he worked for A & E and I called them they sent another service guy and they replaced the drain pan #3, auger motor, and a computer board. With the new drain pan the improved modification was to leave the drain pan electrical part unplugged. There was no modification! Now, the new problems is the freezer will not get below 26 degrees. Ice will not form because the temperature is too high. I e-mailed the company from their web site on 2/9/09 and got no response. I called 2/11/09 1-800-462-9824 and spoke with Juan. He transferred me t a supervisor in the built in supervisor department. Gave me 866-525-3852 if disconnected. I explained the problems are ongoing. Drain pan issues were discussed and still having problems. I was instructed to leave the drain pan unplugged to similate a defrost mode. Still no ice. Spoke with Eric this tie and he said someone would diagnose it by Friday 2/13/09. A man can to diagnose it and didn't even run the diagnostics check. Looked at the frige with my husband present and said conduit puddy was on something that should not be there. My husband being a licensed electrician said this guy did not know that the puddy was non conductive and would not cause any problems. We paid him $65.00 and now he tells me that he will come back Monday or Tuesday and pull the Frige out of the cabinetry. All components are overhead in this frige and it does not need to come out of the cabinets. I am hesitant with this tech as he does not know a lot. I'd like to have Ken Stone back because he is the only tech who seemed to know what he was doing. I'm going to try and call him again today. I got a call from Jenn air on 2/12 from Alantia 866-640-7146 X 6912. I called her back but got a recording. on 2/13 I phoned Alantia again and she finally called me back. She was rude to say the least. She got the dates confused as she was trying to type what I was telling her. She told me I had 4 good years of service from this frige. I told her I was ready to hire an attorney because I had not had good service since the day it was put in. I simply got tired of calling every time I had a problem and could not miss any more work to get the problems solved. She also said that if a new frige was put in, I would have to pay for it. Guess what....little does she know...If I won the lottery on a Jenn - Air kitchen, I'd tell them to shove it! I'd rather have a kenmore! I've never had problems with their appliances. We purchased a Jenn-Air side by side refrigerator freezer (JCD2389DE) at the Sears Outlet about five years ago. Fortunately we purchased a Sears maintenance agreement for that and our new Maytag dishwasher at the same time. The agreement cost about $380 for a three-year period. We recovered that cost within the first year.
I can't say enough good things about the Sears technicians. They were courteous, knowledgable, and very informative. I feel like they are almost family because they have made so many visits to our home to try to remedy the many problems of our Jenn-Air monster. The dishwasher technician took the time to inform me of why my flatware was getting pitted and why my glasses had a film on them. After applying his wisdom, I have clean, sparkling glassware and no problems with pitting. It took at least five technicians to solve the problems of my Jenn-Air freezing refrigerator items and thawing everything in the freezer. Sears cheerfully sent me a $250 check to cover loss of food. As far as esthetic matters, the front of my freezer has permanent rust stains from the rusted metal under the plastic plate where water is dispensed. Also, the replace water filter light is always on after replacing the water filter, so I never know when to replace the filter again.

Refrigerator & range have been repaired under warranty 3x, and now are being repaired under a GE Service Contract. Unfortunately GE sends repairman who are not familiar with Jenn-Air products. Convection oven was replaced after 6 mos. and still does not perform any faster than the bake oven. Refrigerator control panel was replaced and 2 weeks later it went down. All refrigerator and freezer food spoiled. Ge reimbursed us a one time reimbursement of $100. Very disappointing to have spent hard earned money on what we thought was quality and turned out to be substandard appliances. Jenn-Air advised they are only responsible for their appliances for 1 yr. In other words, they are selling appliances at top dollar and their only obligation is to manufacture appliances to perform for 1 yr. After that time, the consumer is left out to dry. We asked Jenn Air to replace the refrigerator. It isn't their responsibility to do so. We wrote letters Jenn Air, Whirlpool (owners of Jenn Air) and GE. To date Jenn Air has offered $150 as a customer loyalty gesture as the refrigerator is now working and Whirlpool informed us we could call any repair service listed on Jenn Air website to service the convection oven, pay for the service call and advise Whirlpool of the findings, at which time they may consider reimbursement for parts, but would probably not do so as the appliances are no longer under warranty.

The compressor was broken, which he reported back to the repair company. The repair company ordered the compressor the following day. It is now a week later, and the repair company has not received the compressor and said they do not where it is or where it is coming from.

In the meantime, I found out that our particular model is known for bad compressors. I contacted Jenn Air and they do not want to send another compressor, as it will probably arrive the same time as the one already ordered. If this part does not come today, we will have to endure another weekend, a total of two weeks without a refrigerator. And this compressor is under warranty!

We bought the fridge in Nov of 2005 for $2000. It was on sale from $2800. This is a very big investment for us. We don't have extra money for luxuries, so this was a sacrifice for us. On May 17, 2008, about 2 and a half years of owning the Jenn-Air fridge, it starts beeping every 2 minutes. Although, the fridge does have some freezing spots that we noticed right from the start (I've lost lots of vegetables) nothing else seems to be wrong with it. We tried unplugging it for an hour, it still beeps. We cleaned in and around it, still beeps.

We had a repair person out and his estimate to fix the problem was $500 or more. He called into his tech support to have them troubleshoot the problem. The part that they identified costs $300. Apparently, we have to replace the entire computer board that controls all the functions of the fridge. The repair person said that it might not even fix the problem. It is still not fixed. I have requested that a refund/exchange be made. They are still wanting to try to fix this unit - the last time Whirlpool's engineering dept created a rework that was supposed to have fixed the problem - 60 days later I am needing service again (for the same problem). I have lost $1000's in food, have had to leave my home because my refrigerator is SO LOUD that my children cannot sleep.

I have been patient, kind and understanding. I feel that it is only fair that they either refund the money or exchange the unit. The dates of service are as follows:10/24/06, 11/01/2006 (which caused me to be without a refrigerator over Thanksgiving serving 30 people),12/21/2006, 4/18/07, 4/26/07 (permagum was ordered from factory and was on b/o until 8/07)8/14/07,11/09/07, 11/30/07 and of course the call that I have for next week. I feel like I am being led on by Whirlpool. This purchase was made in the midst of Maytag being purchased by Whirlpool, and I am caught in the middle of Whirlpool not wanting to make good on one of Maytag's products.

So, today, I had another warranty call done for the EXACT same problem that I have had for over a year and a half. The technician, as usual, called their techline - well low and behold the rework that the engineers created before, did not work (I could have told them that), and they have created another one (oh goody!), that will be the cure all. The technician that was out told me he used to work for Maytag and apparently this is a known problem that has been going on for over 4 years and they have yet to figure out how to fix it.

My question is: Where is the consumer protection? I feel powerless against Whirlpool Corporation (which bought out Maytag and all their problems). I feel like this refrigerator is keeping me hostage.

The economic impact of all of this has been, $1000's in food, hotel costs, loss of time at work, and of course my initial purchase cost of $6700 for a refrigerator that does not work.

The company we bought it from, S&S Appliance, came out and fixed it. Then it happened again - and again they came and fixed it. This went on for several months and finally S&S called in a Whirlpool expert from the Whirlpool plant in Tennessee. He did fix the rattle, but about 6 months later, icicles began to form in the freezer section. They offered to replace the defrost mechanism (as others on this website have cited problems with) and did so, but the icicles returned.

I was finally able to speak to a very NICE and helpful person in Tennessee and Whirlpool actually replaced the thing with a brand new refrigerator. For about a year, things have gone well, but 4 days ago, the NEW refrigerator began making icicles in the freezer, so now it is another service call. I bought the Jenn-Air to replace my old SubZero which worked perfectly for 22 years. Getting the new one in, taking it out again, and then putting the second new one in has created several large scratches in my hardwood floors in the kitchen (although S&S Appliance did pay for the damage the first time) and I dread the thought of perhaps having to remove this one too. I plan to try and get in touch with the Tennessee plant and what I would like is at least a partial refund and then I plan to go buy a basic refrigerator from SEARS!

We called him back out a second time but he said there was nothing more he could do (we had to pay for both service calls). I've also noticed there's a problem with the door seals. Since I now feel this unit is a safety hazard I will have to replace it when I can afford to, and since I am retired that won't be soon.

This was a very expensive unit and the service calls were not cheap. This has created a great deal of stress since I don't know when I can replace it.

Manufacturing defect in built-in 42" Jenn-Aire fridge needs a recall! The defect causes the defrost cycle to get faulty, leading to icicles in the freezer and the fan to stop working. When we called for warranty service, the service tech did not even come to the house. He described the problem over the phone--said he sees this all the time in Jenn-Aire's and that they make a special kit for the repair which we would need to order. A week later we were back scheduling with the service company and had to take the unit out of service for 3 days to get it repaired.

This is a known defect that requires a product recall, but Jenn-Air/Maytag will not own up to it. They claim it is a set of wild coincidences so frequent that they keep a kit handy to fix the problem, and their service techs don't even bother troubleshooting anymore.

We purchased a new Jenn-Aire refrigerator/freezer with french doors in February 2005. After problems with the ice maker and seal on the doors (which we were told to live with), the compressor completely failed after 2-1/2 years. Thankfully, we had a 20-year-old Whirlpool in the garage (enduring 120 degree summers in AZ) that we were able to transfer our food to, so we avoided spoilage. The Jenn-Aire compressor is covered under warranty, so we'll be enduring this bad product for the time being.

Had it not been under warranty, we would have not considered investing the $600-700 (repair costs) in a substandard product, and it would have been curbside. We will NEVER buy anything Jenn-Aire, Maytag etc. Interestingly, we had a similarly bad experience with a Jenn Aire range that we were (thankfully) able to have returned to the store early on--replacing it with a trouble free Thermadoor.

We built a new home in June 2004 and bought the Jenn-Air stainless refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom and the water dispenser inside. Very nice looking but the door doesn't hang straight and the repairmen hasn't been able to fix it after several tries. In the past 9 months it has started making a buzzing sound whenever it runs. So we've called the repairman to come back out. As long as he is at the house he also needs to fix the Maytag washing machine for the same problem in two years - it makes a loud noise and dances across the laundry room. The last repair for the washing machine was $175, one more of those and I may as well get a new machine; never a Maytag again though.

And while the repairman is here he needs to fix the Jenn-Air oven because the glass in the door is filled with dust particles and looks horrid. When I called about it I was told that the repairman would have to take it apart to clean it - as if that is acceptable. All of these appliances are less than 3 years old. I would not recommend purchasing Jenn-Air or Maytag products. I will never purchase from those companies. Our old Kenmore refrigerator lasted more than 20 years.

Even though it seems I have been more fortunate than others who complained about Jenn-Air refrigerators, I would like to add my voice as a very dissatisfied customer. I have had service staff out twice within a few months of purchase; neither repairman was able to solve the problem of vibrating and rattling each time the motors, especially the compressor motor, start. It stops when I hold the doors shut tightly or re-adjust the inner shelves. Heaven forbid though, if I add items to the shelves - the result is again loud rattling and vibrating.

One service man actually suggested I should add some insulation to the bottom of the refrigerator; that would soften the noise! Fortunately, I am retired, and waiting for the service men is just an inconvenience, especially when they don't show up, and not a financial hardship.

We have a $2700 Jenn-air refrigerator. We bought it in the fall of 1999 and it came into service in jan 2000. The first problem we had with the fridge was that the shelves in the door would fall out when the door was opend. We called Jenn-air and the local service rep and were told that there was nothing that could be done so we have a $2700 firdge with shelves held in with tape. 3 years later when the service rep in our area changed we found that there was a fix and Jenn-air did know about it. It was no longer available. We have had to change 3 seperate electronic boards in the fridge and two of them had to be changed more than once (off warranty).

The major problem with the fridge is the way the water and ice is dispensed. The water is controled by a switch on the door which controls a valve which allows water to flow. There is no mechanical connection to the valve it operates electronically. We have experience the water coming on by itself with nobody at the switch. A serviceman told us that this was cause by yet another electronic board getting damp or wet and causing the electronic valve to come on as though someone had pushed the button.

When we left the house for 3 hours to visit friends we came back to our home to find our $2700 fridge pouring water all over our kitchen floor. The water running for three hours (or less) caused $25,000 damage to our hardwood floors in the Kitchen, Linoleum floors in adjacent rooms, baseboards and kitchen cabinets. The serviceman was not able to gaurnantee that even if the board was changed that it could not happen again. Jenn air takes no responsiblity for the incident even though this is a design flaw. I could understand a broken pipe or fitting but the ability, proven ability, that the water can turn on by itself and cause that much damage is unacceptable.

Jenn air offered us $1200 towards a new fridge but we would have the same problem. We have turned the water off to the fridge and only turn it on to produce ice occasionally, when we are home. To all Jenn air refrigerator owners who have in door dispensers I would strongly recommend turning off the water whenever you leave the house for any length of time. It took 5 months to get our kitchen and home back to original after the incident. Any contact with Jenn air has been very negative and they would not even listen to our story, even comments about who puts hardwood in the kitchen. I am sure that a kitchen sink faucet that can come on by itself would not be accepted.

After writing the company president, the corporate office called me, continuing to state they were not responsible and doing me a favor because electronic parts were not covered by the warranty. In a 'good faith effort,' Jenn Aire offered to pay half the repair cost.

On January 20, 2006, the refrigerator stopped cooling totally. The repairman advised it was a compressor failure. I bought a Jenn-Air cabinet depth side by side refrigerator/freezer. It is only 7 years old. What junk! Week 2, clogged line to the ice/water dispenser; leaked all over kitchen floor. Several weeks later, same problem. Service cost me $75.00 each time. I don't remember why it was not covered under warranty? Several months later the drain line clogs and causes the bottom of freezer to freeze up. It has done this serval times in it's short life with me.

Since it is out of warranty, I figured out how to take the interior back panel off to clear the drain line myself. Finally a year ago I figured out that there is some sort of gooey sealant that drips off the fan inside the back panel and clogs the drain line. I removed all this mess and viola! no more clogging and no more having to remove a 1 thick block of ice off the freezer floor! These are not the only problems. Elevator shelves arrived with broken gears and one shelf cannot be adjusted at all. One fixed shelf (above crisper) has a broken support - since it is molded into the side of the refrigerator box - it cannot be repaired. Can't put anything heavy on this shelf; otherwise I can't open the crisper drawer because heavy food will collapse the shelf. Mind you I did not see any of this when the machine was delivered and now it is out of warranty.

Problems get worse. Sliding switches in refrigerator side mysteriously slide over to the right by themselves. The it stops cooling altogether. Repair agent comes out and says Maytag is aware of the problem - defective circuit board (new machines don't have this problem anymore); charges me $150.00 to replace. (Get this, he actually gets worried because I ask for the bad circuit board and tell him I am going to contact Maytag and tell them what he said!) Switches don't move by themselves anymore and all good. Until today, now it is not cooling anymore! This is ridiculous!!! My mom passed down a Hotpoint to her mom and it was passed down to an uncle. This Hotpoint is still working after 30 years!!! Maybe I can convince my uncle to pass it back over to me!

I have only lost food and time from work - probably not a big consequence to such a big corporation.

Not long after that, the food on the right side of the refrigerator was freezing (milk, juice, water, etc.), there were icicles on the inside of the freezer door and condensation on the outside of the door, and the ice cubes were just a big block of ice. This time the service man said it was the insulation on the door that was inefficient and ordered a new door (3rd service call). Two and a half weeks later, two service men came to install the new door (4th service call). The problem was not resolved.

We have lost food and time valued at approximately $2400.

Bought Jennair Refrigerator 4yrs ago. Ice maker does not make ice. Repairman came and said line was frozen and needed new electronic panel on front of machine replaced. @ days later called me and told me parts are no longer available. It is only 4 yrs old and it can't be repaired? Sounds like they are not a user friendly company. This was top of the line when we purchased it. I have a refrigerator in our barn that gets hit with a power washer at least 5 times a year, and it works great and it was just a little cheapy from Sams club. Go figure.

I will never buy from them again, we are in construction and I am making it a priority to let the builders in this area about the low quality of the Jennarie and not to recomend themt to their clients.

I will have to either buy under counter ice maker or keep buying bags of ice and dumping them into the ice bin. Or replace the refrigerator as it is really a junky thing. I am leaning towards replacement.

I built a new house nearly five year ago and put what i thought was the best appliances in it.I bought a stanless steel jennaire side by side refrigerator.Twice in the past five years in the middle of the night the water dispenser decided on it's on to come on.I have a family in the basement under the kitchen, ther was water running out around recessed light fixtures.I had to patch and paint part of the ceiling.Luckly the second time wasn't as bad,but still had water in the basement and had to replace the water valves and control board both times. The last time was a year ago and now on 2/3/04 everything stopped working.
I am feed up with Jennaire appliances,as far as i'am concerned it's all junk.

I have recently remodeled my kitchen and purchased a Jenn-air refrigerator. Upon deliverly I realized that one of the vegetable drawers would not easliy open and close. Because the refrigerator cost almost $2000.00(it's stainless steel) I called the 1-800 #. They gave me a number of a repairman in my area. In speaking with him he informed me that if it wasn't an operational problem it would be at least a month before he could come. Still no sign of him 6 months later. At this point I have noticed that the ice gets stuck coming out and runs the motor that kicks the ice out continually until we notice it. Also the buttons on the front for ice and water are peeling off and the water comes out so slowly it's not even worth waiting for.

For the past month every time I try to call the 1-800# it is busy!! Have they changed their #? I are VERY disappointed in the quality of thier product and their customer service. Some friends of ours are remodeling and were thinking of Jenn-are products(they were wanting high quality). I quickly told them of the service problems and lucky for them they went with another brand. Looking forward to saving others any chance I get.

We bought a Jenn Aire refrigerator side by side with ice and water dispenser in the door in April 1999.We had a repairman work on it 4 times and then the store told us they would pick it up and bring us another one. They said if an item had been worked on 3 times in a certain amount of time it is considered a lemon. Well the next one worked fine for about a year and since then we have had nothing but trouble. I worked on the ice maker at least once a week trying to get it to make ice. I had trouble getting it to make the ice and then trouble getting it to dispense the ice.

We finally got up one morning in June of this year and the refrigerator part was warm so I called a repairman. The heater that defrosted the freezer had went bad. I also had him install a new ice maker. Last week I got up with the same problem. Only two months later. He installed some kind of computer board that supposedly told the heater to defrost. I was charged an $85.00 service charge each time and the total bill for both repairs was almost $400.00. I think this kind of expense is ridiculous for a product that is only 4 years old and that was so expensive. I bought this product thinking it was top of the line and I have been very disappointed in the performance.
