What is HomeServe?

HomeServe is a home warranty company that's been in operation since 2003. It offers various service plans to cover household systems and appliances typically excluded from homeowners insurance. According to its website, HomeServe provides home warranties for nearly 5 million customers.

If you need to schedule a covered repair, you can call or request service from HomeServe online. The company will connect you with a local, licensed technician who can detect your issue and complete a repair.

The HomeServe app allows you to manage your account from your mobile device — you can make payments, add or cancel coverage and schedule service using the app.

HomeServe coverage and plans

HomeServe offers three service plans to cover repairs of your main household systems: plumbing, heating and cooling, and electrical. If you want to maximize your protection, combo plans are also available.

With each plan, you can choose the components you want to cover:

  • Plumbing: Sewer or septic lines, exterior water service lines, clogged toilets, leaking supply line to your hot water heater and inside water pipes
  • Heating and cooling: Furnace and air conditioning, water heater, regulator valves, circuit boards, pilot burners and refrigerant leaks
  • Electrical: Electrical wiring, outlet, switches and exhaust fan

HomeServe’s combo plans:

  • Appliance plan: Covers eight major appliances
  • Warranty Combo plan: Covers your appliances and 10 home systems
  • Premium Home Protection plan: Covers six home systems

Coverage options vary by location, so not all plans may be available in your area.

HomeServe coverage exclusions

Your coverage varies depending on what plans you select. It’s always wise to read the fine print on any warranty to give you a better idea of what’s included. Here are a few exclusions you may see in your contract:

  • 30-day waiting period: You can’t make a service call within the first 30 days of purchasing coverage.
  • Negligence: If negligence by you or someone else caused damage, those repairs aren’t covered.
  • Unusual circumstances: Damages caused by war, pandemics, natural disasters and other unusual circumstances aren’t covered.
  • Correction of repairs: If you tried to fix something yourself first, the cost of correcting mistakes isn’t included.
  • Unlisted systems: Parts of your home that aren’t listed in the “What Is a Covered Repair” section of the contract aren’t covered by your warranty.

HomeServe cost

HomeServe plans start at $7.95 per month. Total warranty costs vary by plan and location — provide your ZIP code to get the most accurate price.

How to file a claim with HomeServe

You can file a claim with HomeServe online, over the phone or through the HomeServe app.

Plan holders can call the emergency repair line to request help. Once you file a claim for an urgent repair, a service provider should be in touch within four hours. However, if it’s a less urgent repair, you may not hear back until noon the next business day.

When you file your claim, you’ll need your HomeServe ID. You must describe the problem you’re having and share your availability so the company can send out a service provider.

You can track the status of your claim using the company’s online tracking system.

Coverage limits

The coverage limits for HomeServe’s plans vary depending on which plan you have. Check out example contracts on the company website for more information on all of HomeServe’s plans.

No, HomeServe doesn’t require a home inspection or proof of one.

How do I cancel HomeServe?

You will have 11 months of coverage during your first year of a HomeServe contract. There’s an initial 30-day waiting period before you can make a service call that starts immediately after your order is processed. Then, you’ll have coverage for the remaining 11 months in the year.

Does HomeServe allow you to add additional coverage at any time?

Yes, you can add additional coverage to your HomeServe plan at any time.

Still have questions?

Is HomeServe worth it?

If you’re looking for a home warranty to help cover unexpected home costs, HomeServe might be a good fit. The company offers flexible coverage options, so you can pick and choose to create a one-of-a-kind warranty that works for your home.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that each plan’s costs, terms and availability vary greatly by location. Go to HomeServe’s website to see what coverage is available. Once you find a plan you’re interested in, take time to read the details and analyze the cost to decide if it’s right for you.

I cannot praise them enough. The one reason I say this is on the coverage I have for the water lines, the toilet, as that is all I have used. I have several contracts with them. I also have choice which really making me shudder. I appreciate that they have the best plumbing company ever here in tucson. I pray this company stays with them. It's called zona plumbing. They are the best that I have had in the many years with them, but most of the others were good too. But this one is better, compared with choice gets the worst contractors to sign up, and they are not reliable. If Homeserve had more offerings like home appliances, etc., I would have them for that too.

Homeserve sent out Precision Plumbing to snake my drain, they went above and beyond to get all the roots out. They cleaned my floor and even changed a light bulb for me. They were super nice guys and the other companies would dent my walls, leave roots behind and break my slider door trim. These guys lifted the heavy machine and no damage. Called Homeserve to thank them and they are always so super nice and they work fast to get my problem solved. I love ya all and thanks for being there for me.

My experience is with plumbing. I called Homeserve regarding a pipe leak inside the wall. Homeserve contacted a plumbing company who responded right away and resolved the problem. The work was quick and thorough and clean. No mess left. Plumbers have to cut open walls but the cut was neat and the residue was cleaned up.

HomeServe came out to my home and serviced my AC unit that needed its yearly maintenance. The technician whose name is Jared was extremely knowledgeable, honest, and answered all my questions and concerns. He thoroughly cleaned the coils and dusted all the dirt and leaves that accumulated over the winter months. He was honest by telling me how my unit is in great shape. Jared didn’t try to upsell any services other than giving me a brochure on their monthly insurance plan. I am very happy I called this company.

I pay HomeServe for the Interior Drainage and Plumbing coverage. I had a leak from my bathroom leaking into my garage. It was a small leak. I also have a slow drain toilet and dishwasher. They sent a plumber from K&S Plumbing name Harley to my home. So he gets there and I'm showing him the issues. So he had me to turn my water on and it's running and he said because my pipe is not wet, I don't have a leak in my garage. I said, "Sir it was leaking on yesterday. I'm not sure why but something is wrong. I don't want to come home and my garage is flooded." Then he takes pictures of the pipes. So I said, "What about the slow drain from my toilet and dishwasher." This man told and I quote, "There is nothing I can do". I'm like aren't you the plumber????

He goes to the truck and get the pumper thing, he blowed it twice in the toilet. It didn't work. I said, "Sir you are not doing anything that we haven't already done on our own." He told me to get another toilet. Then had the nerves to say I will receive a notification to rate him and ask him to give him a 5 star. I told him straight up, "Sir you don't want me to rate you." Telling me that I will have a chance to win $250 for rating him and that he will get more contract jobs from HomeServe. I told him I will be cancelling homeserve as soon as you leave. So he leaves and goes to his vehicle.

I stood in my living room watching him to see how long it was going to take to pull off. He sat there for about 15 minutes before pulling off. So I called HomeServe and cancelled my services and told them to take me off the mailing list. I said, "You all paying this contractor and he didn't do anything." Google had more information and steps about a slow drain toilet than what Harley did. So I'm going to pay out of pocket for a direct real plumber to come and resolve my issue on Monday. Waste my time today!!! Giving Harley a 1 star and Home Serve. I encourage you all to get your loved ones to learn a trade. HVAC, Plumbers, Electrician, and Construction and do with Integrity to our companies like this out of business. Customer Service and quality of work in this day and time are no longer.

Years ago, I was convinced by our local (Harrisburg, NC) gas company to sign up for "water heater insurance" through Home Serve. After many years (and lots of money paid in monthly premiums) our H20 heater failed. We contacted Home Serve to notify them and I have to say, they have the worst customer service I've ever encountered. No one picks up calls, messages are ignored, requests for returning calls are ignored and when someone finally calls, they're curt and offer no help. It took a full week for them to send out a tech (plumber) for evaluation, and we were told that it did in fact, need replacing; then nothing. No follow up nor contact. Not to mention that they tried to gouge us with a highly inflated price to replace (well over the benefit amount). Obviously trying to scam us by requiring an additional $850.00 over the benefit. Stay away from Home Serve.

I called them recently for an issue clogging of entire house sinks and commodes. It happened 6 months ago as well. That time they fixed it and they said my coverage is fine and I don’t have to pay anything but this time the guy they sent he said for the same issue my insurance will not cover it. Not only that I know how much snaking costs but this guy is trying to charge me a lot. I am not sure that I want to continue with the same insurance or not.

Called for repair of my dishwasher in February 2026. A technician was dispatched from contractor company Appliance Care. Technician assessed the problem and said he was going to order parts. Called Home Serve in March to follow up on the status of my Claim, transferred to parts who stated parts were delayed. Called back in April 2026 to find out the status of my claim and was given the run around. Called back in May 2026 and told I will receive a payout deposit to my account by completing a form with my account information for deposit which I did.

Emailed Home Serve customer service agent who then told me after receiving my signed account information form that it will take another 3 weeks (15 business days) before the Home Serve finance department will make the deposit to my account! Meanwhile I pay my premium every month! This is a poorly ran company, especially for appliance repair services. I do not recommend this appliance warranty.

We’ve had Homeserve for several years. Their ‘timeliness’ is poor. The people you speak to on their toll-free line are very polite and want to be helpful. But if the appointments for their (evidently one appliance repair person for the entirety of Long Island) is ‘booked up’, you may wait a week to two for Homeserve to get you on the schedule - in which the repairman does not show in the time frame you have been given 90%+ of the time - if this is the type of service you are okay with, then Homeserve is for you. The guy that shows is nice, polite, and competent. One is grateful for him to simply show up. BUT, if your time is valuable, and you don’t need a kitchen appliance repaired in a timely manner, then Homeserve IS NOT for you.
