What is ARW Home?

ARW Home, also known as American Residential Warranty, is a home warranty provider that offers service contracts designed to help homeowners cover the cost of repairing or replacing major home systems and appliances. The company operates nationwide and allows customers to choose between local contractors or ARW’s in-house technicians for service requests.

ARW Home coverage and plans

ARW Home offers three plans: Kitchen Plus, Platinum and Platinum Premier.

ARW Home also offers a variety of add-on coverage options:

  • Water and sewer line plans: These plans cover the most common causes of damage or loss on water and sewer lines, including wear and tear, rust, tree or plant root damage, fluctuations in temperature and pressure system failure. The company offers a combined water and sewer line protection plan that features a $100 deductible, $2,500 in cover per line per 12-month period and a 60-day guarantee on parts and labor.
  • Ultimate electronics plan: This plan offers added protection that's not found in a manufacturer’s warranty. It covers an unlimited number of devices, one laptop battery replacement annually, power surge protection and spills, drops and cracked screens on portable devices.
  • Pool coverage: This plan covers all above-ground, accessible, working components and parts of your pool’s heating and pumping systems. It also covers your gaskets, motor, primary circulator pump and backflush and check valves.

ARW Home’s plans range from $39.99 to $84.99 per month. Below are the monthly costs for each of ARW Home’s coverage plans and optional add-ons. The cost of optional coverage can become quite high if you want to receive comprehensive coverage.

ARW Home coverage exclusions

ARW Home’s coverage doesn’t protect against any preexisting conditions, defects or deficiencies. These are things most home warranty companies don’t cover, but some do — so if this coverage is important to you, you may want to choose a different company.

    I’ve been with American Residential for a few years now. When I submit a claim, sometimes it's long, sometimes it's not. But the reps I interacted with have been very good. However, when you’re on the phone, you should be able to hit zero and take you to an operator right away, if you choose that. My recent claim was for the AC unit, and the fan broke. They had to replace the parts on the fan for the outside. The tech who came out was very polite and professional. Then, I got another and the tech was a bad one. Because he was in a rush, trying to get out of there. He didn't even do anything. I just reported what happened, and that was it, and then they got me a different person.

      I've been dealing with ARW Home for so long. I reach out to them by phone. Customer service is good. Every time I reach out to them, they get me the service I need. The last time that I had something going on, I had a drainage problem and they sent someone out. They came and looked at it, and then they left and said they had to recalibrate something to get an approval. I got frustrated with that because it took them a couple of days and I didn't want my system to back up and overflow inside my house because it was running over on the outside. So, that took a couple of days and I was really afraid. I had to keep going outside looking. Every time somebody goes to the bathroom, I go outside to make sure stuff was running out. So, that frustrated me.

      I was calling because I made my payment that I was supposed to make, I did everything I was supposed to do, and it's been a couple of days and I don't know what's going on. I'm afraid my house is going to get backed up from my sewage and that's going to be terrible. Then that's going to cost me flood damage in my house from the sewage. They finally got it fixed. So, I was a little bit comfortable then. They did a good job.

      The concierge called me about ARW Home and when this was presented, it made a lot of sense. I've had it for two years now and the package that I have is good for the premium that we pay. I call when I submit a claim and the process is easy. It’s always very good dealing with the reps. But the person who came to service gave a very wrong review. I have a 20-year-old system and he said it went bad due to bad maintenance. But ARW spoke to my service person and understood the situation, and they compensated me for it.

      I had the pleasure of speaking with the "Good Karen" in regards to my payment issue. I truly appreciated her empathy and understanding as to not having a debit card at the moment because my wallet was stolen and my bank was mailing me one which would take 7-10 days. She even went as far as to ask if the 3 dollar fee for using my bank account instead could be waived. The $3 may not seem like much but when your bank account has been literally cleaned out it means a great deal. The gesture alone made me feel appreciated and valued as a customer.       I own my house here, and the house is 106 years old right now. Things are starting to break down. I had another home warranty and they tripled their price on me. I started looking around for the best deal or the deal I had and ARW matched it just perfectly.

      So far, their service has been pretty good. It started out a little rough. The salesman, John, we talked for a while and talked about the different policies. I thought I made the payments in a policy but they kept calling me about, "You need to get a policy." I kept saying I had one. They could not find my policy to start with. But everything got ironed out and it's working fine so far.

      I called them and that was a challenge to get a hold of somebody because I didn't have a number to start with to get to the claims department and kept having to bother John about trying to find a number. But I have all the numbers now and I just call up and tell them what I need and they get me a service tech out here.

      MetroPower came out, and they have always been good and polite. They scared me to death the first time they came out here to work on my dryer. They took the whole dryer apart. Two guys came out and they tested the stuff. The next thing I know, they were taking the panels off the top, off the bottom. They said it was just a wire off and they put it back, what the problem was. But it wasn't two weeks later, it stopped drying again and they came back out and fixed something.

      The third time they came out, I was getting mad because they hadn't fixed it, because it worked for a while, and it would quit drying again. It's still working now, but it hasn’t been quite 30 days yet since the last time they fixed it. But they seemed to know what they were doing. The guys have always been good and knowledgeable as well.

      The service calls are a little high, but I understand that with the price increases. That was another reason I went to ARW; the other company raised its service call prices. ARW has been a good company so far. They've answered all my complaints about getting things done, and they've been there to do it.
