When I had bought the house a little over three years ago, I submitted a claim and it was a very easy process calling, determining, and telling what was wrong. It was wintertime and the heat wasn’t working. HWA tried to get somebody from Nashville and it was taking too long. With it being cold, I asked if we could try to find somebody else and they found someone closer to me. The technician was able to come within the next day and fix the heat.
When it was time for renewal this year, my plan had gone up and, of course, the service fee went up too, which HWA said there was nothing that they could do. However, they were able to work with me with the price because I did shop around. I was going back and forth but still decided to stay with HWA, and it's still a much better deal. I've been with them for three years, so they didn’t wanna lose me either. And we haven't had any issues with them.

Theresa, thank you for your review. We are glad to hear you decided to stay with us! Please don't hesitate to let us know if you need anything. All the best, -Melinda

I submitted a claim for a refrigerator and I wasn't impressed the way Home Warranty of America handled it. The technicians came and said that the compressor was out on it and that they would never fix one on a 15-year old refrigerator. Then our ice maker was out but they couldn't analyze that until they fix the compressor. So I had to invest in doing the compressor first and come back and deal with the icemaker issue later. We got a new appliance and it cost us $1,200. If we had gotten the refrigerator and the icemaker fixed, it would have been around $950.
I talked to another company and they came. They told me that when they work with home warranties, they won't quote a compressor at anything less than replacement value. It's a central component and it's not worth fixing it. When the compressor goes out, it's a domino effect so it's putting money in for that. I sell homes and I include HWA warranty as part of the sale. But I don't feel as confident recommending HWA as I did prior to my own personal negative experience. There's too much backward way of thinking about how they deal with a warranty repair.

Brad, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We have forwarded this over to the appropriate team to ensure that this feedback is used as a suggestion on ways to improve. We hope you have a good day, -Jane

My experience over the years has been more bad than good. A few things have been repaired in my home since my membership began, however, there was a huge issue that occurred due to the company's negligence that went ignored when I reached out to them. The problem with my heating and cooling unit in my home has been an issue for over 3 years that has been reported to the Home Warranty Association over several times. Each time an incompetent contractor was sent out to fix half the problem that was occurring, the issue of the leaking water was never fixed or addressed.
The water from the unit turned out to be an issue that was finally solved on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 when Chris from Discount Heating and Cooling discovered that it was a plumbing issue where a draining pipe was never properly connected. Consequently, there is severe water damage to my main bathrooms ceiling and wall from where the unit was leaking in the attic.
05/28/2014 - Damron Plumbing. The technician said that the unit did not have any Freon in it and that is why it was not working. The guy said that the air was fixed and that there was a silver tray up under the heating/cooling unit that was running over with water. He placed a towel up there to catch the water and said that he would return after he reported the new findings to Home Warranty of America. The technician then suggested that someone who specializes in heating/cooling Units should take a look at it.
06/04/2014 - Hewitt Heating & Cooling. This contractor checked both the unit in the attic as well as outside of the home. He made some adjustments to the fan on the inside of the outside unit and claimed to have fixed the part inside of the attic. Still, the water leak was not taken care of as we were assured it was at that time.
06/07/2015 - Phone Call in to Home Warranty of America. A very rude, inconsiderate, and disrespectful representative completely got out of line with my mother and I tried as we tried to explain our problem with the heating and cooling unit. His name was Salvador **. When I told him that we had been having multiple issues with the unit in the past, his response was, “But why did it take y’all a year to call back, though?” I was appalled. He eventually got all the facts and sent out a shady contractor the next day.
06/8/2015 - L&B Appliance. These contractors were completely unprofessional and rude. They did not have a ladder to climb into the attic and properly assess the situation. Consequently, when one of the men attempted to climb out of the attic, he slipped and broke the entry door to the attic! The other guy allowed it to happen. They both promised that the damage to my home would fixed, however, we have never heard from them again! We have even mentioned this to representatives of Home Warranty and still nothing has been done to ensure that L&B Appliance fix the damage to my attic door. They ultimately said that the unit was frozen and had been unthawed. Although the central air was working again, they said they would be back to fix the water leak. DID NOT HAPPEN!!!
01/06/2016 - Discount Heating & Cooling. So far the work that has been done by this contractor has been good. The water damage has started to dry out, which is an indication that the leak has finally been stopped. In conclusion, due to the recent and past events that my family and I have undergone with the contractors of HWA to fix our unit and stop the water damage, may negatively impact our decision to renew our warranty in March. This problem should have been resolved in Spring 2014.

Erica, we are sorry to hear that you had this long process to get a claim resolved. That is certainly not what we like to hear. We hope that you will give us another chance to assist you with a repair down the road. The feedback you have provided has been forwarded for review and in hopes to improve our processes. I had a claim for a hot water heater right after I moved. I called Home Warranty of America and the process was simple but I had an issue with the technicians once they got here. Home Warranty hires their own contractors and it's all price-based. They try to get the cheapest people for what they're doing. The technicians said they'll be able to fix the water heater but they didn't have all the parts that they need and didn't discover that until late in the afternoon. It was a little frustrating in how they handled it. They bailed and said they're going to get the part. Half an hour later, they called me and said they were not able to get it and they couldn't do anything until that next afternoon. They were unorganized and left me without water for about 36 hours. Those contractors are responsible for their own work and it was an oversight on their part and not HWA. In the long run, it's not that big of a deal but with my kids and my pregnant wife, it wasn't fun.
Other than that, the reps that I have dealt with at HWA were apologetic on the phone. They're attentive and anytime I needed something, they get people out here. It's reassuring to have Home Warranty and it's nice to know that when things in my house are going to break, I'm not going to shell out a lot of money. I signed up for the warranty for $800 which isn't a big deal. My AC is probably going to crap out on me sometime and I don't want to drop $5,000. I'll pay a couple of years to Home Warranty until my AC goes out.

Thanks for the candid feedback, Charles. I am glad to hear your overall experience has been positive! As for the hot water heater, please send a private message if there are still any concerns. All the best, Violet.

When we purchased our home, Home Warranty of America was recommended to us. It's the only one that was presented to us and we trusted the seller on that and went with what the seller of the home had provided. It was a new house so I wanted to make sure that the appliances would be cared for in the event they broke down or any other major problems. I recently renewed it and it was an easy process. I was able to do it quickly and payments went through, no problem. Their rep was great to speak with. I did have an unrelated issue but she was able to address that for me as well. So, it was a good experience.
On January 6, 2016, we submitted a claim because the furnace went out. They were able to get someone out there very quickly to help repair it but the floor repair was not covered. We also submitted a claim back in April of 2016 due to toilets constantly running. They were able to get a plumber to come out real quick, replaced the necessary parts and fixed the issues on one of the two toilets. The second toilet began having issues again in June. When I called them back, they said that the 90-day period had passed. They'd have to have someone else come out and take a look at it but it would be a new claim. I explained to them that it appears to be the same problem and I don't think I should have to pay another claim fee just to have someone else come out and tell me the same problem. And then, patch it up and have an issue again in another three months.
Unfortunately, the customer service at that point was very poor. The lady said, "Well, that's not how it works, sir. You need to pay us the fee. We'll get someone out there, and then we'll tell you if you have to pay anymore, if it's covered or not." I ended up having to replace the parts myself the second time around, which fortunately, there's been no problems. Overall, they have a good product and a responsive team, but needs improvement in customer service.

Called at 8:30 pm on a Sunday to find a repairman for my furnace which started screeching and had to be shut off. It was -2 degrees out. They took all my information and said someone would be calling me back within 15 minutes. When they called back they told me their repair company in my area was not available until the next day. It was -2 degrees out. I asked if I was allowed to get my own repair company and they said, "Yes, if they call their estimate in to HWA before they actually do the work." I called and left messages at 3 different companies and only 1 called me back. They of course do not deal with HWA. The motor in my furnace had to be replaced at a cost of $1,009.00. The next day HWA's repair company called and left a message that they could be out between 5pm to 8pm that night. 24 hours after I originally called in.

My realtor recommended Home Warranty of America and said she had it and she thought it was a great idea for income property. I went with HWA and I’m with them more than one year now. I’ve renewed again last February. They have that little grace period wherein they want to make sure that you don’t have any damaged appliances. Another competitive home warranty company, Home Shield, only gives you two weeks to fight the 30 days that HWA provides. It's something to look into for that, but I’m satisfied with HWA's service. I had to have a refrigerator replaced and things went very well with that. They asked me if I would like to have it replaced or would I like the money for that refrigerator, and I said I’d like to have it replaced. So, they sent me an email and a comparable model, and then they asked me if I liked it and to make sure I check the measurements and I did.
They're good, very responsive and I like what they’ve done. However when they put that replacement out there and they put a logistical support to deliver it, that’s where everything fell apart. The logistics individual they use is out of South Georgia and I’m in Jacksonville. He doesn’t schedule appointments, he doesn’t contact or make sure that the customer is there. I’ve tried to call him twice on the phone number that was on the notice and left a message but I never got a phone call as well. I never talked to anybody. I didn’t hear anything for days and then he popped out of nowhere. He called me at 7 o’clock in the morning and I’m 30 miles away from the rental property, and he said, “Hey, I’m on my way. I’ll be there in 15 minutes.”
I was very disappointed with it. It was unprofessional and disgusting. He must be from a satellite company because they have another home warranty company for my residence and he did the same thing there. My security cameras captured him. He put the ramp down on the truck and he already had the washing machine unloaded off the truck when he came to the door. He didn’t even park and come to the door and make sure someone is home. He ended up putting it back on the truck because nobody's home.
I’m military. I am prompt, accountable and responsible. I’m employed and I’m not sitting around waiting. This guy just shows up, and he has a pickup truck with a trailer, and what he does is stack it according to his anticipated deliveries. So when he comes to deliver to my house, which is possibly his first stop, and he can’t deliver it, he has to rearrange his trailer so that’s further in the back and he can do it on the return trip. He does a great job at what he does but as far as scheduling and phone contact and information like that, there were none of that.
I would recommend Home Warranty of America with the caveat to never go with the replacement because of their logistics employee. I’m greatly disappointed twice about the logistics services. I’ve told other people to never ask for the replacement. My mindset is that I will never replace it again. I will always take the check and I will schedule my own appointment with a local vendor so that I can get what I want when I want it.

I will definitely forward your feedback to our management team for review. Please feel free to reach out if we may assist you with any questions in the future. Have a great day! -Elle

My real estate agent told me about Home Warranty of America when I got my house. Everything was all right with the sales rep and signing up for service was a normal process like any other signing up process. I've submitted a claim and they did quite a good job but I never got time to call them back to tell them that. The claim was about a plumbing issue because there’s a loud knock in the pipe and I knew that’s a fixable issue. The plumber seemed fairly rookie, although I didn’t know how old he was or how long he had been working. I figured he would’ve at least asked some questions about it. He did and I told him to flush the toilet to hear it, but he never flushed the toilet. I told him about a leak I found and I’m pretty sure he took care of that. Other than that, I haven’t called them back yet and it’s my fault.

The process in signing up for the service with Home Warranty of America was fine. However, the last two times that we've called to see if something was covered, it wasn't. So, I'm beginning to wonder what is covered. At this point, we're very dissatisfied and not pleased at all because they haven't covered what we feel should be covered in a home warranty. It seems ridiculous that what we have to pay for should not be something that we have to pay for since we're paying for a home warranty. We shouldn't be paying for nothing. So, next time around, when our warranty is due to be renewed again, we'll look for somebody else.

Elizabeth, thank you for your review. We can understand that when something is not covered it can be a bit upsetting. We do offer different tiers that include coverage for different things. My experience with Home Warranty of America has been very worthwhile. Our realtor suggested them to us when we bought our house and we went with it. The signing up was pretty easy and we just renewed a couple of months ago, which was fairly easy as well. It was a pain-free process. It was also easy and self-explanatory submitting a claim. Once on the website, walk through and fill up the form. In the 2-3 times we’ve done it, we’ve gotten a response relatively quickly for people to come out and fix whatever it was that we needed fixed. Everything’s been great. It's been very helpful on things that we use on a very regular basis from our dishwasher, washer, dryer, and garbage disposal.

You need to live in the residence 30 days before you can file a claim. Anything before that is considered a pre-existing condition. (This is not a full year coverage if my warranty runs out on the day I purchase the home.) Limit to the water heater size they'll fix - gallons. I have a 75 gallon electric tank and the limit is 70. Anything bigger is considered commercial. (I live in a single family home) I only found this out after we purchased.
I opened a claim in May 2016 regarding an issue with my pool filter. HWA authorized a replacement and they would only cover up to $1,000 in total for any pool related claim. This coverage is extra and if you know anything about pools, $1,000 does not go a long way. In total it was going to cost $1,300 to replace the filter. I received a bill from the pool vendor that was roughly $100 more than expected. Verified with HWA that they only paid out $895 in total on my pool coverage. I called HWA back and they said they would contact the pool vendor regarding the extra $105 and never did. I've still not been reimbursed the $105 nor have I heard back from HWA.
Dryer claim opened on November 18, 2016. (It takes 2 plus cycles of drying your clothes before they're dry.) Originally gave me a vendor that did not service my area. New vendor is Sears. Sears takes 2 days to schedule a time and it's a time that works for them not you. If it doesn't work then you need to call back to request a new time. Then wait 2 days before you hear back. First tech didn't call until 1:30. Originally supposed to be there from 8-12. We had left and were no longer available for him to service the dryer. Had to call back to schedule another appointment. On the next appointment, the tech called and couldn't make it and needed to reschedule The tech finally came and told us everything is fine with my dryer. With electric dryer there's 3 components (Power, tumbling and heat). This is per the tech. They all seemed to be working fine.
Dryer is still not fixed and now this is costing me time and money to run the electric dryer additional cycles. Call back to reschedule someone else to look at the dryer. Need to wait for sears to schedule an appointment that works for them. I'm still waiting as of December 28, 2016 for the dryer to be fixed. New claim on my water softener opened on December 27, 2016. HWA sent me a vendor that I called to schedule the appointment. On the phone the vendor told me he couldn't service my softener as he did not work on the brand that I had. Called back to get a new vendor and HWA said they would find someone that could service the softener. Asked to speak with a supervisor and they put me into a voicemail box for supervisors and then before I could leave a message I was hung up on. Each time I call it takes 10 mins plus of holding.

After purchasing a $500 platinum home warranty in July 2016, our furnace quit working Dec 16, 2016 and after numerous calls to file a claim and numerous attempts by the technician they sent to our home, our furnace still isn't fixed and it is now Dec 28, 2016. The lowest recorded outdoor temp since the 16th has been -12 degrees. Every time the technician repairs a damaged part he finds a new part that is damaged and needs to be ordered, each time we are asked to pay a $100 deductible.
Now Home Warranty of America is denying any further claims saying we should have a manufacturer's warranty that covers repairs and we need to contact the manufacturer for further help and they refuse to reimburse us any deductibles we've paid for services resulting in an unrepaired furnace. 13 days, no heat, 25 hrs spent waiting for technicians to show plus countless minutes on the phone all through the Christmas holiday and Chicago winter with 2 small children and 1 infant in the home. Do NOT purchase a home warranty through this company!!!

We had Home Warranty of America when we bought our first home in Ohio. We went with them again when we bought our second home because of their customer service and how quick they dealt with everything. We hadn't really used them very much until our furnace broke during absolutely the coldest week of the year and they were there the following day to fix it. I was out of town at work and they bent over backwards to help us. The crazy thing is that seemed to open up Pandora's box and we had to use them quite an awful lot in the next six months on various things that had decided to stop working.
We've already used them once since we moved into our new house last year. It was absolutely easy submitting a claim online. Someone called me right away. The follow up was decent as well. We used the home warranty for our garage door. They sent someone out to fix it right away. They came out and did a great job. I disliked that I had to pay the 75.00 for a plumber to come to my condo simply to say within 5 mins that they cannot handle my claim. Based on my conversation with them over the phone explaining the issues, they should have been able to determine that they could not handle the problem. Each and every claim the leaks were behind a wall which plumbers do not handle unless I have someone else remove the drywall. Lots of money was spent and nothing was done.

I've been using the services of Home Warranty of America for more than a year. A couple of weeks ago, I filed a claim over the phone. The person I talked to was fine but the overall experience with my claim was really horrible. My issue is still open and I'm still waiting for their feedback. I emailed the customer support supervisor and had a chance to talk to him on the phone. First, I reported the issue that there was a leak in my basement on Friday, and they assigned a contractor, Franklin Plumbing, to have a look. I waited the whole morning until almost noon on the day that the contractor was scheduled to come, but didn't see anyone showing up.
I called the supervisor back and he gave me the contractor's contact number, and asked me to contact the contractor directly. I did but the contractor said they do not repair the water line if it's leaking outside the house and they only do inside house water line repair. I went back to the customer support team and they said that their contractor should do that. So, I called the contractor back the second time. They were mad at me and said, "We do not do that service. Why do you keep calling us?"
So, basically, the customer support team assigned to me a contractor that doesn't do the service I need. It was too bad. Then they said sorry and that I can get my own contractor. So I got my own contractor, but we still had a lot of roadblocks to get my own contractor approved. They kept telling me that my contractor didn't give them all the information that they needed. My contractor called Customer Support four times. If they didn't get the information, I don't get it and I'm fed up. I haven't called Customer Support for about two weeks, but I'll call them back today or tomorrow to figure out what my case is. This was a very terrible experience I had here.

Our realtor told us about Home Warranty of America and we didn't have any problem with the HWA sales rep. We’ve only had one claim a couple of years ago and they took care of it. Submitting the claim was relatively simple since we just had to call them then we got the service taken cared of up on the front end. Then we had to provide receipts and such as that to be reimbursed, but it was fine. We renewed it again and we’ll probably keep it intact simply because we never know what’s going to take place down the road. We haven’t had anything negative and I would recommend them.

I had one claim with Home Warranty last year and it was handled very well. My AC went out in the middle of the summer in Dallas, Texas and it was hot. I called them up and submitted the claim and within an hour, the people that they use that do AC work called me, set up an appointment and they were out there that day. They were speedy and very professional. They didn't have the parts, so it took a day to get the parts and the next day they came and fixed it. Now our AC is quieter than before. It also runs more efficiently and is not burning as much electricity. I renewed with Home Warranty online and it was easy. My rates went up for the renewal so I called them and they've knocked it back down to where it was. They were very helpful. I'm satisfied and as long as they continue to keep me happy and the service is good, I will continue to use them.

I was with this company since 2013. The first time I needed to them to replace my hot water heater that was over 12 years, and got shafted. The tech (IGD Plumbing) that was cahoot with them (HWA), stated that the unit was damage due to leak that was on top of the water heater, so HWA denied the claim. There is no water leak above the water heater and the air gap between the vent is typical for venting. Well I am out $1,800 for the 3 years I was with HWA, and will have to get the water heater replaced on my own.
I had couple of other plumbers that verified that there was no exterior leaks that cause the unit to go bad and that the unit was simply old (12 yrs old) and failed. I would also recommend that you are present when their technicians come to your property to make sure that there is no funny business while on your property. You might want to get your own assessment before you contact these HWA so you can have your own facts before dealing. Or simply don't deal with them.

Thank you for your feedback Clive. We are sorry to hear that you have not had a good experience with us. We would like to investigate your last claim further. Please message us with your claim number. We look forward to working with you. All the best, -Jane

I feel that we are paying too much per year and are not needing any support toward repairs for the year. I learned that the repairs that are currently need are not covered. A leaking water pipe that the garden hose attaches to is considered outside pipe and not covered. The electric fireplace is not covered. By the time I need a repair that is covered, I would have paid a fortune.

I'm a contractor, so I know how things can go wrong in a household easily and I looked into getting a home warranty. Then Home Warranty of America was close to our home. They were turning to the things that I was registering for the sole purpose of making sure I had all of my ducks in a row as far as the dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, microwave. They laid it out pretty good and that's what made me acquire them.
I submitted claims to them. One was for my sink. I suggested Home Depot which is about eight minutes away from here. They came out and did that. The guy was looking for a different type of sink and my wife told me she'd like to have the same type that she originally had. The gentleman at Home Depot listened to what she suggested and he found it and came back with it. It was almost identical to the one that we had that was taken out. Then the last one was for my dishwasher. They came in, talked with me, looked at the items and stoves. The guy even checked the items that I didn't expect to be checked, which is my garbage disposal and my sink, and ran me a discharge hose from the dishwasher all the way into the garbage disposal unit.
Home Warranty of America is a pretty good entity to have when purchasing a house because they'll listen to you. They'll direct you into who they are most friendly with and patient, to be able to suggest to you the list of people that they used and forthcoming in regards to doing a job. As far as inspecting their work, they do a great job. They've been great by me and even by my wife. She was elated to find out when she got home that this faucet that was busted. She told me that she thought it was the same faucet. I told her it's a new one. I was happy that she was happy. A happy wife is a happy life.
They justify what they state in their agreement to make you very satisfied with what they do. It doesn't take long to get in touch with them. They respond to your action and tell you immediately who they are suggesting and the agent or the representative would give me a call and set up a time. These guys are pretty damn good. They're great and I got no complaint whatsoever in regards to them.

Charles, thanks so much for your fantastic feedback! We understand how complicated decisions can become when it comes to appliances and we are thrilled we could help you make your wife happy in her home while providing top-notch service. I went to an insurance commission convention and there were people from Home Warranty of America there. A person talked about how good the services had been for other people and there was also a rep from Florida representing them. Signing up in sales was good since I only had to go online. I'm currently in the health insurance but I worked for the John Deere company, I worked for an independent agency, and I've sold extended warranties. I know more about warranties than anything so I know what’s workmanship and parts, lack of maintenance, wear and tear, and anything like that. I had no problem interpreting what their policies were and there was no discussion or argument about that. I then sold policies to two good, real close friends but now, I'm advising them to cancel although they haven't yet.
We have a terrible experience with HWA and we could get anything resolved. The policies keep going up each year with the rates and when I asked to speak to management in the company, people won’t call back. Communication was terrible and I can never get the same person. I'd give most of the people credit, unfortunately, they had a job but they did not know what they were doing and some of them were pretty short. They couldn’t get anybody out for us and we would call and they'll take the calls up to a supervisor immediately but it was always, "We’ll call you back," and no immediate response. They never come back. If I had time, I would have reported them to the insurance commission.
HWA don’t back up their warranties and wouldn’t pay claims. We've done 2 claims. One was for a dishwasher and we went from August 8th to the first of November getting the dishwasher fixed with only a simple $25 part and that’s totally ridiculous. If my wife had gotten into it, she would really unload it. It took the guy 10 minutes to fix it but we had three people come out. They couldn’t get anybody to come out so apparently, they must have a reputation for not paying their vendors or their repair people really good.
Then we had an air conditioner come out and a guy repaired the coil but it didn’t last six weeks. The air conditioner was 20-something years old so we can’t re-patch it part by part and so we needed to have a whole unit put in. We got a professional company to come in and replace the whole air conditioner and we spent about $7,000. But they have not paid out what we paid in premium and it took only a $500 buyout. HWA are not business people and the people they sent, especially for the air conditioner, were non-professional. This would’ve been the third year we're on the program and the expiration date expired on the card I was paying with and I did not renew.
HWA was difficult, impossible to deal with, and did not want to get repairs made. They're one of the worst experiences we’ve had in consumerism. I’d love for the president of their company to pick up the phone and call me. We asked for management and nope, they would never pass us on. We are owed a big apology and I really think we ought to have a lot of money back, but I know that’s getting in the way on asking that. We’ve called and emailed the surveys but there's no response. I’m 68 years old and they're one of the worst consumer jobs I've ever received. They're extremely bad.

Thomas, we want to apologize for your bad experience you have had with us. We would like the opportunity to look into this with you. Please send us a message with your claim number or contract number so we may further assist you. Thank you, -Jane

First call for non functioning fridge was never given a call back by first service contractor. 48 hours later called and switched to Sears Home Services. No called no showed to 2 appointments. Diagnosed issue and ordered part but took almost 2 weeks to return to fix. Upon returning to fix found other issues which needed parts that would take another 2 weeks. Spoke with the HWA buyout rep who advised me to take a buyout that would be about 60% of cost of repair which was $1258.00. Expecting $650.00 to $700.00 I was basically conned into buying a new fridge at the cost of 1300.00 only to later be offered a laughable amount of 488.00 buyout. I had great interactions with previous claim with HWA but as of lately they have failed in the customer service aspect of their responsibilities and have soured my opinion of the companies policy and as a whole.

I bought a house and my real estate agents paid for the home warranty from Home Warranty of America for a year. It was a good experience because I had a few things that needed to be done and I kept it up after that. The customer service was also fine. The only concern that I have had is when I made a report and I needed repair.
There are only a few repair people who are enrolled with Home Warranty through them because I’m across the lake from them. I’m in a different parish. So, sometimes when I get a call back from the person who’s going to do the repair, I find out that they’re from New Orleans and not in my area. So, in certain cases I would call them back and ask if there is anyone close to me who might be a repairperson that I could deal with. It’s not their fault and as I understood it they can't just pick anyone from my parish or my area to come out and service whatever I need. Other than that, they’ve always been very courteous and served my needs. I wish their price wouldn’t go up.

My realtor doesn’t sell a house without home insurance on it so she actually integrated the Home Warranty of America policy with my mortgage. I used them once and it was great so I chose to extend my warranty with them. Our AC went out in July during my daughter’s graduation and birthday party. I put in my claim and the rep took the information down and said someone would give me a call back in regards to the follow-up call. She gave me the name of the company that I was supposed to receive the callback from. They got someone out and got the air conditioner fixed and we seated out only 2 days and that was summer. When they came, they weren't there long at all. They took care of everything, and gave me some tips. They did a really good job and were quick, painless, and out the door. It was a great and wonderful experience.
I will be putting in another claim for a building error because our air conditioner line was put outside the frame and has to be moved inside. They’re gonna have to be recovered through the air conditioner and I’m drywalling my basement so I have to have somebody come in and move the line. It’d be good if I get the same people. At any rate, I’ve already recommended HWA to some family members and friends.

There are some plumbing companies that quite frankly should be taken off your vendor list Or at the very least permanently removed from my choices!! There was a communication breakdown 2 days ago in that the one company (His and Hers) that I asked not to service was the one that called to set an appointment. Then the one that was assigned called (Metrotech) and sent out someone because he finished early causing my tenant to rush home so vendor would not leave. But then the vendor could not speak English and was telling the tenant that the leak was not where it was. After several minutes of frustration the vendor left without a diagnosis. The call was cancelled by me. So I now have a $100 vendor call fee sitting with HWA till I have another call. That is a lot and should be refunded!! - Rather odd business practice.
Bottom line is as I have had home warranty companies for 20 years, the quality service vendors seem to be going "south"!! I wish your company could be the one to make a strive to find better by paying vendors in a timely manner and finding ones that produce quality work (at least in the pool service and plumbing industry). I did have a great plumber with you, Greg's Plumbing. He did not renew? Ask yourself WHY?

I had to pay out of pocket because you all could not send anyone to my home to repair my A/C?! I called as soon as the motor went out and incessantly during the more than 2 weeks I had no A/C and waited for service from your company. All to no avail. I finally had to research and begin calling the executives of HWA (Direct Energy) to get some answers re my reimbursement claim since I went ahead and paid out of pocket (which is what your reps advised me that I needed to at that point). This company could have cared less that myself and my husband went without A/C in humid and hot September Florida weather. Absolutely the worst service ever.
I'd never renew my home warranty with this company. With Home Warranty of America, you have a work order and you got somebody to come out every item that they want to deal with. If you had three separate items, that's a $100 each settlement of the time they're out because you got three separate issues and the person may or may not get the issue resolved. From my experience, I called in October to get a Home Warranty technician out because of the serious plumbing issues in my home and it was unsuccessful. They weren't available for two or three days. My house could have been totally flooded out and they wouldn't have cared. I had to call an outside technician. A week later, Home Warranty technicians called but it was too late.
I have it on paper that I've been calling since October 7th. Up until today, I've been having major issues and they've only wanted to cover a very small portion of the cost of the plumbing. I had to pay the technician and Home Warranty of America still deducted $100 service fee. It's totally irresponsible. After they paid the very, very, very minimum, I was still having problems because this was not a $300 job which they pay $282 and no technician showed up. Our contract with them includes what's on the cover page of the contract stating that all other unforeseen prior issues should be covered. I'm actually waiting for an attorney from HWA to call me back.
I had a friend of mine that had the policy for about 12 years ago. Apparently maybe at that time it worked well so I gave them a shot. Then my friend told me that after I had them, he had also had the same experience getting his own technician out. Then finally, HWA gave him a portion of what he paid for. It was really devastating. I would not sit here and lie to anybody. It's not worth the money. I'm very dissatisfied and I would never recommend them. I would not put my family or friend in the position when I initially got Home Warranty of America. If you read over all those fascinating things, you think generally on the cover of a contract it sounds awesome. I had really advertised that even in my neighborhood. HWA have enough business that they can ignore and can do all kinds of stuff. It appears that they think it's legal until someone corners them with a really good attorney at law.
Both the company and the service are pretty good but they are handled very haphazardly. Based on the online reviews, I could see why a quite of few persons were very dissatisfied with the overall business of Home Warranty of America. They really have a real stringent process to try and get anything done. I have to be like an attorney to talk to them. There are a few people that sound really kind and nice but to get to the actual work to get anything done, one has to call at least 100 times.

Home Warranty of America was the package that was given to us when we purchased the house. They're a great company and they covered a fairly good amount that I didn’t have then so it was worth paying what I paid and that’s why I renewed and we still got them. Submitting a claim with them was easy. All I had to do was tell them what was wrong and they had the guy come out. Then the guy had to call them with the information of what was the issue and did everything else. The only thing was the prolonged wait into getting the AC unit. It was almost a month and it was the height of summer. But besides that, everything else was okay. They took care of everything that they needed to take care of.

Gloria, thanks for leaving your review. We are so happy to hear about the great experience you have had. We are pleased to have you as our customer. Have a great day, -Jane

We have had an excellent experience with the contract for our home but every claim for our condo has been a nightmare. This claim took an entire month to complete the repair! They kept bouncing us around among departments and even hung up on me! We shouldn't have to pay for an entire month where HWA did nothing for us.

Our washer needed repair so I contacted HWA (on a Sunday). I called Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday trying to figure out what was going on. Every time I spoke with a customer service rep, they informed me that HWA was still searching for an appliance repair company. Each time I spoke with them, I told them I could call an appliance repair company and each time was told my appliance would not be covered if I did that. I was just trying to help. On Friday (5 days AFTER my first contact) I called again and this time was told that I could contact the company of my choice. WHY they hadn't called the day before is beyond me, but whatever.
I called an appliance repair company and they were able to come the next day (which was Monday). The appliance repair company also told me that they would NEVER work with HWA. They had worked with HWA in the past and had to fight with HWA to get their money. Not good! Monday the appliance tech found that the part needed was NLA. HWA needed to put their own "people" on it and several days later discovered the part was, indeed, NLA. HWA then offered to give us $600 to "replace" a $1200 machine. I had to do a LOT of research and submit it to HWA in order to receive $1,000. This process took almost a month, several trips to the Laundry Mat (over $100 spent) waiting for HWA to do what they should have done in the first place. Because of your final decision to give us closer to the amount the machine was worth, we have decided to renew our warranty. However, we will think twice about referring you to a friend, family member, or client.

We've had several HWA claims over the years. Some have gone quickly and smoothly. Others have had slow-to-respond contractors. The biggest problem we've had is the slow-to-act HWA authorization group. I was told multiple times a decision on repair/replace would be made within a day and it took a week and a half?!? That should be a 15 minute decision. I don't know all that goes on behind the scenes, but it seems it should be quicker. End result is always fine, just a little sluggish sometimes getting there. Makes me a little nervous about what would happen if something more critical went out like a refrigerator or heater (in the winter).

It took them 3 weeks to decide about my 15 year old dishwasher only to tell me they can't get the part and because I made the claim in the first 30 days of my contract they would not replace it, only offer me a buyout which is to pay me the price of the part they could not find. So now if I want a dishwasher I have to purchase it myself and wait 3 to 5 weeks for the check which is not going to be enough to pay for it and I'm supposed to have the diamond plan. I hate to see what the other plans are. Worst customer service ever. If you want something fixed quickly this is not the company you want. They could care less about the customer. The reps were good on the phone and they kept trying to sell me some green stuff which I don’t need. It took them about 2 months, to approve my claim on my pool heater. It really held me up and then they only paid $1,000 which is probably my fault because it was probably in the policy but I didn’t read it. I thought they told me I had full pool heater coverage and I ended up paying $2,200 out-of-pocket. I wasn’t real happy about that.

But the new furnace is beautiful and it works well.
Customer service is also great. The signing up process was very detail explained and the sales rep was very polite. He was also very thorough with explaining my options and I was satisfied with him. However, the vendors that Home Warranty deals with should be a little bit more polite and flexible with scheduling. A lot of the vendors are not flexible and then they get rude with it too. The contractor called and placed the order with HWA and the only way we could get a furnace this month was to have a high-efficiency unit installed with an extra $300 worth of modification over the standard unit. We are experiencing single digit temperatures and had to go ahead with this. This is very upsetting that HWA doesn't keep the correct units in stock and forced us to eat the extra cost for a unit that we didn't need. I feel this my need to be addressed with our Attorney General. Seems to be suspicious and the extra cost should have been covered since this was HWA that forced the extra costs on us.

They brought a bigger system to use on the "other" system that I had not complained about because they said that system also had a cracked heat exchanger. After approval from HWA they installed that system and it was mismatched with the outside system. They said that this wasn't a problem as they could come back and adjust the speed of the system if it became a problem. The original system that we had a complaint about, we were told also had a cracked heat exchanger. HWA also approved that one.
The work was done, aside of not cleaning up the work area after removing the old system, the company, according to a second company that was sent out by you said it hadn't been properly sealed and duct work had been damaged. He also said that the first system should be removed and replaced with a properly sized system. I don't want the first HVAC vendor back in my home! Over a year later on my renewed agreement with HWA they decided that I have to submit a home inspection from when I purchased the home. In order for them to review. Why now? The realtor that we worked with encouraged us to ask for Home Warranty of America at our closing and so we did. I have filed a claim with the company a couple of times. One was just about a month after we moved in for a leak in our bathroom and it was not a positive experience. The plumber that they sent didn't have a company vehicle (he was just on a ratchet vehicle) or anything that signified him as a technician. He also wanted his money before he did anything. But as it ended up, he couldn't see the leak in our bathroom from the plumbing fixture.
We knew it was leaking somewhere since the carpet was wet out in the living room. Our house is built on a slab, though. But the technician said that they don't pay him to move out the vanity, pull out the carpet and look behind it. All they pay him for is to repair the leak so we'll either have to hire him to do it or we'll have to do it ourselves. We ended up fixing the damn thing all by ourselves because it was such a hassle. My husband ended up pulling out the toilet and it turns out we had a slow leak around the seal of the toilet.
Another claim was for a leak outside, right in front of our house. The HWA rep told me that they don't cover anything that's not inside the house. I realized that a person should read through all the fine print of their policy, but unfortunately most of us neglected to do that. So now we have to pay another $200 for the policy to cover from our house to the water meter. We ended up fixing that issue ourselves, too. My husband wanted to cancel the policy since it doesn't do us any good. But we still have it since it serves as insurance.
Nevertheless, the people that I've talked to have been polite. The service technician also comes within the same day of filing a claim, but it would be a much better experience if us clients could choose our own technician whom we trust. Thus we've been pretty dissatisfied with our Home Warranty of America experience. Buying a house is a big thing and people are trusting their realtor to help guide them through the process. The realtors recommend buying this and so they do. Then lo and behold, a month from getting into the house they find that fixing a leak costs $100 but they're gonna have to do $500 worth of work to actually get it done. Hence, if somebody was buying a house, I would say absolutely get a home warranty because they're protecting themselves in some way. But this Home Warranty of America policy has not been all that useful to us.

Kristi, thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Feedback is very important to us, and we do understand how the Vendors we send out play a big role in our success and the overall customer experience. We bought a house and the people before already had Home Warranty of America. And we renewed it. However, I was already dealing with an issue right before we're to re-sign back up again. I had a KitchenAid microwave that broke. I submitted the claim over the phone but it was difficult to get the company to come out and fix the microwave. We had a company that came out and it took them almost two months to finally get a settlement for a microwave. The company that came out was also not great. And the check that HWA was gonna give was for $214 and the microwave was way more expensive than $214.
In that process of renewing, I spoke with a girl that renewed me and then she said that she'd give me more money for what the microwave was worth in the process of renewing. And then when I did renew, I asked her if we can make a month-by-month payment. The next day, I get $600 taken right out of my checking account. When I called to complain, the supervisor didn't get back to me in a week. I called back and followed up with the supervisor and she said, "Oh, no. It'll take a couple of more days. I'll get back to you." But then she never did.
Eventually, when their rep called back, I spoke with her a few times and she was supposed to get back to me but she also never did. She was gonna pull the tapes from the call that I had with the individual when I renewed. She told me that the girl was not allowed to give the $100 that she was gonna cut me for $314 for the reimbursement for the microwave. It was set price at $214. And I got a check in the mail after 12 phone calls. I'm altogether not really happy with the company.
When we used these guys in the past for other things, we didn't have any problems. Our ice maker broke and the technician came out, ordered the part, and a week later put it in. Same thing with our dishwasher. But it was a nightmare for our microwave. And also on our air conditioner, we needed to have Freon and I was taken aback that HWA only covers a certain amount of the Freon, $10 of it and each pound of Freon for the company that came out, was $40 a pound. So, we had to pay the rest of that out-of-pocket.

When we bought the house in 2013 Home Warranty of America was provided to us by the owner through the closing company, Frontier. Signing up with HWA was very easy. They send me an email saying that it's due for renewal. I just click a link and then pay online. That's what I do every time I have to renew it. Moreover, I have a very good interaction with the reps every time I call. That's why we're still under their service. If not, we would have been gone a long time ago.
I usually use their registered or authorized service company and they will be the one to check everything and tell me if there's anything we need to claim or request and I know there's something wrong every time they make a claim. They changed our AC before on the only claim we ahd. I'm satisfied with the service directly from HWA and those from their vendors.

Our water heater broke and there was no hot water, so we submitted a claim to Home Warranty of America for that and it was handled very quickly. After three days, we had another heater working and everything has been running fine. It didn’t take too long, and we were happy to get our hot water back. My husband is the one that talked to HWA on the phone and he seemed to have a pleasant experience. Overall, our experience has been pleasant.

Home Warranty of America was recommended to us when we bought our house. Expecting it would be beneficial to us, we went with Home Warranty of America. We had a few issues along the way, but all in all they had done a pretty good job. The signing up experience was all fine. We normally file claims online but occasionally we call. The main problem is we live in a very small town and there’s usually nobody here contracted with Home Warranty. So, we usually have to pay and then they reimburse us. We’ve had several claims and the most recent was our water heater. There was one time we had a problem but they resolved that issue and apologized for the confusion. It’s overall been good.

I've had Home Warranty of America for a little over a year now, and just renewed with them recently. The sales rep was nice. She explained everything and got everything set up and going. It was easy. I've only had one experience with them where I filed a claim over the phone during one evening, and then the next morning, the contractor had called. They replaced the garbage disposal. Home Warranty has a quick turnaround and good customer service.

I used to have American Home Warranty and I got rid of them because they did not fight for me on an issue that I thought they should have. I had a home call that I set up at a specific time and told them that I cannot meet them at a certain hour. The worker showed up at precisely when I told them I couldn't meet them, so they faxed me a statement of "homeowner denies entry" and charged me $75. American Home Warranty wouldn't fight for me on the issue so, I quit them and looked for an alternative.
My dad told me about Home Warranty of America and signing up for it was very easy. I had a nice experience talking to the person I called when I signed up. When I had to file a claim, I called the number and they set it up. It was a Saturday so I figured I wouldn't hear from the service provider that day. So, it ended up being Monday. But I did hear from them first thing Monday, and I got several emails confirming that I had filed a claim. They got my toilet flushing, but it occasionally makes weird noises, so I would probably have to call them back. Home Warranty of America worked perfectly.

We bought a home and asked the seller to include a warranty on it. Home Warranty of America was the company they chose. That was a little over a year ago then we continued the warranty. Then, I did it again this year. When I called and renewed for a year, the person I talked with was pleasant. I submit my claims to them over the phone and the process has been easy. They have a lot of questions and I like describing my answers verbally more than trying to type it out. I've made a claim for a refrigerator icemaker and it was repaired in a timely manner. The tech did a great job and it saved me some money.
I also filed another claim for a central vac system. They called to say they don't have a repairman for that and that if I knew of one, I would have to get a hold of him, have him check it out and submit a claim to them. That part sounds a little harder than it needed to be because I've already called the person and he said he charges $75. But he didn't come to the house or give me an estimate. He wants that money upfront to just come and look at it. So I didn't get it repaired because HWA couldn't give me anybody that could do it. I'll have to look around for a competitor and see if I can get somebody to do it. What HWA is saying is have the contractor come and give an estimate, turn it in to HWA and then they'll judge if it's going to be covered or not.
I also called with two more claims for a leaking washing machine and a dishwasher that's not working at all. And the same people, Sears, are coming back. I was very happy with them and I'm glad it's all one vendor instead of having somebody special for Whirlpool and somebody special from Kenmore. It's been Sears now for three times and I appreciate that. I'm happy with Home Warranty of America and the service has been great. I wouldn't have renewed if I didn't feel like it was worth it for me. I would also recommend them.

Thanks, Mark! We believe in working with the customer and we are glad to hear everything worked out! We are pleased you have had a good experience and look forward to assisting you in the future. Have a wonderful day! – Violet

I originally called Home Warranty of America about a year ago when I had an issue. They said a plumber would contact me, but they never did. I called them and the guy said that he would call me back, but he never did. So finally I called Home Warranty of America and they said that I can go ahead and use my guy but I have to pay upfront and wait for the money back instead. I like that they let me have the ability to do that and the plumber that I had was reasonably priced and did a really good work. But it's been quite a while since I submitted it and I haven't gotten my check yet.
They said it would take four to six weeks for reimbursement, but we're at eight now. That's what happened the last time too. I called them and they said that it didn't get processed for some reason, then it will take another four to six weeks again to process. So I had to wait two and a half months on the check. Overall, I'm pleased with the flexibility, but they need to work on their bookkeeping a little bit.

When we purchased the house and did the closing, the owner put in a warranty for one year on the house. The second, third and fourth year, we signed up ourselves. The process was very easy. Someone called from Home Warranty of America and I said I wanted to continue the warranty on it and the maintenance and they said, "Yeah. We can do it over the phone."
My most recent experience that I had was when my doorbell was not working. They came out to fix that. And now the doorbell is not working anymore. But otherwise, whoever they contracted would come out when they were supposed to and everything was adequately fixed. But then after 90 days, if it breaks again, I gotta pay another service call and I don't think that's right. Also, I'm not entirely satisfied with the service fee. It went up by $50 and it goes up by $50 every year. And now, the amount that I pay once someone comes out has also gone up.

Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that your satisfied with our service. If you are still having problems with your door bell please message us so we may get that looked at for you. Thank you for being our customer! Have a great day! -Melinda

In the beginning, I had no problems with Home Warranty of America. It was only until I had a couple of issues at my home that it got frustrating to deal with them. There were communication issues. We've been back and forth through emails and phone calls as to who they were going to send over, and when the vendor that they referred was going to call. Also, they referred vendors to me that shouldn’t even be working. They were awful. Some of them were unprofessional. Then I was without my garage for three months. I slammed my finger in the garage because I was using it mainly. That was a very bad experience. And then I had a few more issues again with the vendors being incompetent and having to come back out because they didn’t know what they were doing.
The second issue that I had with Home Warranty was that, after all of that, they decided to send me a renewal and upped the yearly amount. For the two years that I had it, I didn’t have an issue. On the third year, they upped it at $200. I questioned why and got no response. I thought it went up because I had used them so many times. I questioned them again, and when I reached a gentleman, he said that it wasn’t because of that. That’s how much it was. He offered me a $30 discount. And because I’m very uncomfortable with not having a home warranty, I used them again. Now, I just pay monthly. I wouldn’t recommend them because $200 is not reasonable. To me, they’re trying to get their money back from all the times I utilized the service.

Home Warranty of America was provided when I bought my house. It was what the Realtor recommended, and the sellers paid for it. I had a good experience with them so I renewed the warranty. The initial signup and the renewal for the service were both very straightforward. I did the first one online and the second one over the phone.
I had one claim for my AC that they tried to turn into two claims, but I talked to someone and they were able to bundle them together. I had two AC problems that were existing. One was fixed the first round and then they came back and fixed the second one because they missed it the first time. It wasn’t HWA's fault. The contractor had a little mess-up, which was no big deal. It all got fixed. Also, the contractor was good. I don’t fault them for missing the little piece the first time because their people were really nice. They were also courteous and didn’t tear anything up. They were up and out of my attic, in and out of the house, and they were clean. So, I had a good experience with them. I'd recommended HWA.

When we purchased the house that we moved into last October in 2015, HWA became a part of the selling option. Our realtor covered Home Warranty and made it a negotiating tool as part of the sale. The sellers paid for half of one year's premium and we paid for the other half. We had not looked into it at all but we were happy to have it as well. We've also renewed our home warranty this year. We used them three times. Two of the times were as we expected. One of them was a battle, but that's neither here nor there 'cause we understand that. The house is only seven years old but the reason we went with Home Warranty is because if something major like an appliance or an air conditioner goes out, it's a good value.
Our one experience that was very difficult involved shower units. The plumber that was chosen by Home Warranty to come out agreed that they needed to be replaced but he wasn't getting a lot of cooperation with the company. So, he primarily dealt with Home Warranty on his end. It took several days of him calling and talking to people from Home Warranty before it was finally done. And in the end, because they couldn't find a comparable model to the shower units, we wound up negotiating and paying for half of what was replaced, which was still acceptable to us. But still, it wasn't a pleasant experience. But the other two times that we had to utilize Home Warranty, there were no problems at all. And all the service providers that came out did everything correctly and did an exceptional job.

Then they sent somebody out to check it. They also sent somebody else out to check on him and they said that it had to be replaced. They did that. We also had a washer and dryer that they came out and checked. The dryer was making a terrible noise. The guy fixed it then he came back another day and fixed it once more. I'm a real-estate agent and aside from referring Home Warranty of America to clients, I've been personally using this warranty for 16 years. I always tell my clients that when we're buying the plans, they just pick what they want and if they want any upgrades, I just tell the title company to order it for us. It's nice that Home Warranty of America allows a third party to order it on someone's behalf. It makes it easy on people and they do that all the time. It's nice to get it done the right way.
The most frustrating thing about making a claim though is getting things done in a timely manner, especially if it's a big thing. The small repairs gets done pretty quick, we've had claims with contractors so good that they got the work done in the same day. But sometimes there are parts that need to be ordered and some of the vendors don't always have those parts because they're not big companies but rather small independent ones. They might not be able to get through it fast enough since they have other people in front of them.
One time I had a water heater that had to be replaced and it took over two weeks. It was a long time without hot water which was really frustrating but they replaced the whole thing eventually. Waiting for it to be all replaced isn't that bad but if I would have called my own plumber, I could have had it done within the same day. Still, I've had other clients that have had horror stories about being denied claims for some appliances with other warranty providers. With Home Warranty of America, if a claim is legitimate, they do replacement or repair. I highly recommend them.

Tiffany, we want to thank you for taking the time to provide your experience with us. We can understand how it can be frustrating when a part needs to be ordered and that causes a claim to not be resolved as quickly as we would like. So, we got a policy with Home Warranty of America because they were referred to us. It was easy, simple, and straightforward with the sales reps. They sent us an email and ran our credit card.
Submitting a claim was super easy and I really like that this was done online. The actual getting contacted with the key guy, though, was tough the first time. But the second time when we had the mouse issue, it was super easy and pretty good, and they contacted us within 24 hours. The guy did his work as best he could, but you can't control mice. It's really convenient to be able to actually get my claims taken care of, and not have to go through multiple channels on the phone talking to several people. However, I've submitted three claims, and have mixed emotions on that. Out of the three contractors, the second one told me that the issue was the same thing that the first contractor said he had fixed, and I have a problem with that. I still had to pay the service fee. That's one of my sticking points with this particular experience, but the tenant hasn't called and said anything was wrong.

When I bought my house, I was given a warranty as the AC and furnace are almost 50 YEARS old. The AC was the first thing to malfunction... the vendor that was sent out for that "didn't want to mess" with our unit as far as replacement because it would be "too big of a pain" for him to replace. So he was sent out MULTIPLE times to patch up the AC unit, which he finally was able to mend the problem enough that it worked for the rest of the season. In his notes, he stated that the furnace/heat exchanger was CRACKED when he was inspecting the AC coil. There was a lapse in my coverage. My AC stopped working again. First Class Air was sent out and about had a heart attack. He called me and told me to file a claim on the furnace immediately as it was leaking CO2 and was DANGEROUS to run in the house. Everything was submitted and my claims were RUDELY and UNINFORMITAVELY denied.
I called FOR WEEKS trying to get a resolution, being passed around before a supervisor finally got back with me. I was told too bad, lapse in coverage, my problem however if I paid for repairs and a malfunction occurred again, the warranty would then cover the unit. So I paid over $600 to have the AC repaired AGAIN and it worked for a few months. When it started malfunctioning again, Dynasty Air was sent out and again recommended a full system replacement. They inspected both the outside AC unit as well as the internal unit where the furnace and AC are controlled together. He again said the furnace was bad and that the AC was too old to mess with. He said he had Rescue Motors but he didn't think that would work at all. Everything was submitted and AGAIN system replacement was denied and Dynasty came out and installed the Rescue Motor... this functioned for a few HOURS and then we had the same problem again.
I called for a recall on the AC and inquired about the furnace as well. I have paid $400 in service call fees this year ALONE on these claims, one of which I was told would be refunded and I have not yet seen that either. When Dynasty came back out, they turned on the AC unit and said that it was blowing cold air so there was no issue. It was about 40 degrees outside on the day they did this inspection so OF COURSE it's going to blow cold air because it's COLD OUTSIDE. They then took $100 service call fee for the furnace and said they would submit everything. Time goes by, I hear nothing from Dynasty nor HWA. I called again for the AC as the outside unit stopped running altogether and another vendor was sent out (Affordable Air or something to that effect). They stated that the notes stated the AC was fixed and that the furnace had never been reported. Again, a $100 payment was expected, which I refused to pay.
The vendor understood my refusal and said he would get back with his office and see what was going on. It is this last vendor who informed me that HWA would absolutely not touch the furnace nor consider replacing it. The statement was made that I'm "just trying to get a new unit", which is utter BS and I am insulted by that. The equipment is almost 50 YEARS OLD!!! I have an infant in my house along with my dogs and it has been in the 20's here the last couple weeks. Let me say again... I HAVE AN INFANT IN MY HOUSE AND ALL YOU CAN SAY IS THAT I AM TRYING TO SCAM YOU FOR A NEW UNIT!!! In the money I have spent messing around with your company, I could have paid for a new unit myself!!! I think it's funny you have a check box for an attorney – having a lot of problems like this?? Gee, I wonder who that could be... the way I have been treated is absolutely disgusting.
In trying to resolve this issue, I was privy to a supervisor making personal calls on working hours to somewhere regarding charges made at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas... I'm sitting here, my house and my family are miserable and this SUPERVISOR who could not find the time to call me for WEEKS is idly chatting away trying to get his issue resolved... hmmm... perhaps he should do that on his own time and not when people are depending on him to address their needs. I will be requesting all of the service fees I have paid HWA vendors as well as my $600 premium as this warranty is absolutely useless. I have been very patient and calm during this entire ordeal but now I have reached my limit and have been pushed past it. How can you sleep at night knowing you're taking people's money and then providing this type of service??? While you are warm and cozy in your beds, my family is hunkering together for warmth around a space heater.
You think you can just blow someone like me off because who the hell am I? Just another person out to scam you idiots... right... that would make sense if I hadn't dropped so much money with you people. I am absolutely appalled... makes me wish I was dead instead of living in a time where other people don't matter outside of oneself. Truly disgusting. This whole ordeal has seriously made me question my faith in people and the good in the world. You all have shown me that people don't matter as long as you get your ** money. Well enjoy it. I hope you have to set it on fire to keep your pompous asses warm this winter. A very disappointed and disgusted customer. This message is directed at HWA. I got a home warranty because I want to be protected in case there's a repair that needs to be done. I went with Home Warranty of America because they were suggested to me and they seemed to be reputable. Signing up for service was easy. My interaction with the sales rep was all through email and it was pretty straightforward. Submitting a claim is easy too. So far, I've filed two claims. First claim I submitted was related to a problem with a fan blade on our air conditioning unit. That claim was carried through very easily and efficiently, and the home warranty folks gave me correct information. It was well done and I was quite pleased.
The second claim that I made, the information that I received was not correct and I think that can be improved upon. I had an issue with my garage last year and I was told that the home warranty will cover the repair for that problem, but when I called the repairman out, he said something different. So while I filed a claim, I didn't follow through on it because I got incorrect information from the home warranty folks. The person I spoke with sounded like someone who was non-American and didn't seem to have thorough information.
With the exception of that one blunder with the last claim I filed, my experience with HWA has been quite professional and pleasing.

Should be fix in about 7 business days. Great. Well 7 business days goes by and no call from "Passion Service Pros" so I call them. They tell me the part is back ordered until Nov 15th. I call HWA to explore my option and there are none. Multiple phone calls later from me to "Passion Service Pro" and HWA and 7 weeks later still the dishwasher is broken and no one will answer my questions about what is going on. I called "Passion Service Pro" today and they hung up on me. I called HWA today and got hung up on twice. Not once have I received a phone call from HWA or Passion Service Pro about a status update. I need some resolution to this issue. How long do I have to wait to get a dishwasher repaired.
This is the worst experience I have had with a home warranty company ever. I will not recommend HWA to any of my clients and I wIll let all my realtor and broker friends and relative know about my experience. American Home Shield put my needs first and did everything possible to fulfill they obligations in a timely manner at my previous residences. I am very dissatisfied with the lack of customer service and professionalism from HWA and Passion Service Pro. Please do not call me or contact me in any form unless you have an immediate resolution to this issue. Thank you.

This company goes out of its way to try and do the bare minimum possible according to their contract. There is no attempt by anyone I have talked to at HWA to create raving fans or even to retain clients. One example of this is my AC. It recently went out in the summer in Texas. HWA apparently only has one AC adjuster who is either overworked or incompetent. It took over a week of my wife calling HWA multiple times a day to get the "okay" for the repair person to fix the problem. All the while we know what is wrong with the system and my family, including two small children, are forced to leave our home because it is so hot. That's in addition to the repair shop calling HWA as well to try and see what the holdup is.
Additionally, when we finally did get the lone AC adjuster to actually approve the repairs he or she apparently ignored the recommendation of the AC repair people and only approved the stopgap fix in what I can only assume is a stalling issue to get me to spend more money on another service call after I have paid for another year of the service (because the adjuster knows that the stopgap fix will make the system inefficiently operable for the next few months until AC isn't used as much thus delaying any appreciable repair at least another billing year).
I nearly forgot to mention the fact that a person can never get the same representative on the phone and apparently HWA doesn't have the technology to institute client notes in an account view. Every single time we got a hold of another representative we had to re-explain the entire issue and any assurances one representative told us were not noted so they may as well have been lies to pass the buck to another person knowing that there was no way for me to talk to the same person again.
This is the type of shoddy customer service and cost mitigation that give companies like HWA a bad reputation. I would never recommend this company to anyone. This company will go out of its way to make sure that the covered items are working at the bare minimum to meet the definition. A prime example of doing just enough so that it can be said that something was done. The vendors that I have used through HWA have been great, but they are striving to retain customers and keep their good will unlike the bureaucratic shell-game that HWA appears to be.

Case in point: our washing machine transmission broke. It took longer than a week to have a tech tell us it was broken. Then it took 6+ weeks to get a replacement machine, due to HWA slow claims approval process. So, for 2 months we had to do a family of four's laundry at the laundromat. We spent hundreds of dollars on laundromat expenses and travel time. We had almost the exact same story, but with our oven. Between the 2 claims, I easily spent 20 hours on the phone with customer service trying to get a resolution. Overall, HWA provides the warranty they advertise, for the most part. I notified HWA that my double oven would not power on, Sunday, 6 Nov 16 (I'm a computer repair person so I put all the troubleshooting steps I did in the claim request). They quickly created a claim for the covered Item and assigned a repair person within 24 hrs... Great! It was all downhill from here. I called the tech they assigned because no one called me to set up an appt on Monday evening and he was not able to come out until Friday. He came out pushed some buttons and confirmed it did not work. He said they needed to possibly replace the control unit a possible 6-8 day process. He wrote down the model number for the double oven, collect his 100 service fee and left.
I was a little disturbed by the amount of time it was supposed to take and I called HWA and reported what was told to me by the tech. They called the tech, called me back and told me they were going to do a replacement because the part was no longer available. They took the specs of the unit and had me do measurement while we were on the phone Friday, 11 Nov 16. I called them (HWA) on 15 Nov 16 because I had not received an update on the claim status. They then informed me that the were going to try and repair the unit. Mind you, Thanksgiving is 24 Nov. At this point I was heated! They said the tech needed to come out to remove the control unit and possible do a repair (Possible??). I said "When would he be able to get out to my home? I would like to have an oven available for the Thanksgiving week." They said the earliest he could get out would be Wednesday, 23 Nov16. I said "This is not acceptable."
I asked for a replacement just because the time that had passed, they denied. I asked "What could we do to ensure I had an oven for Turkey day?" (family visiting, huge event) and they said they could possibly do a buy-out (this is when they give you the cost of the repairs and part to get it fix yourself). I said "I would like to know how much that would be." They could not get me that information and would get back to me tomorrow. After tomorrow had pasted, I called them the 3rd day and still no estimate was available. After getting this news, I read my contract looking for something that would hold them to the fire to get this resolved quicker, and I was unsuccessful. I am going to buy a new oven just to have one for next week. I am extremely dissatisfied and I don't want anyone else to experience anything like this.

A friend of mine told me to get Home Warranty of America because if I'll have any problem in the future, they will repair just about anything that goes bad in the house. And if it cannot be repaired, they will replace it. That was a deal maker for me. I called them and they explained what they were about, told me what the cost would b, and signed me up right there on the telephone.
I’ve submitted a few claims and I’ve had good experiences with them. The only bad one was with my air condition. When they came, they said that the air con couldn’t be repaired and so they were replacing it. After they did that, they ended up charging me a thousand plus because they said that I had to be upgraded in order to accommodate the new AC. I had to either improve or reduce it in size. The Home Warranty does not cover upgrades and I wasn’t ready to pay for that. But it's working and seemed to be going on since repairs had been done. Then just recently, I had to be renewing my membership and they sent a new scenario wherein they now cover repairs on the outside of the building. That’s a good thing because sometimes there's damage on the outside that I would like to get taken care of but I don’t have the resources to do so. It is something that will help me some time in the future. I'm looking forward to see what that will do for me.

I heard about Home Warranty of America from a friend. Their coverage was what I needed, and submitting a claim with them was pretty easy. Additionally, the technicians that had come by my home were good so far.

Great service. Knowledgeable tech. Customer service is great. Great timing. Called before arrival. Pilot lamp area was inspected, cleaned and ignited the lamp. Also showed me how to ignite the lamp, and clean the area and keep it clean. Great customer service on the whole.

Hey Moses! Thanks for the review. We are glad to hear you have had a positive experience with us. Thank you for being a valued customer. Have a good day.

My A.C. went out and after 3 weeks of 93 degree temperature in my home, I used your representative to install a new unit because you would not take any actions to get it done. My invalid mother, who lived with me, got sick and had to go into the hospital, and subsequently passed away. Thank you very much for your noncooperation. Do not renew this contract under any circumstances.

We were very unhappy with ALL the repairs we had done through your warranty company. We didn't feel like the "experts" sent to us had any idea how to repair any of the situations. This was the main reason we no longer use your warranty company. We went with a new company in hopes to get more qualified technicians.

Hi Cheri, we apologize for the negative experience you had. Customer feedback is very important to us and we want you to know that we are working hard to make sure we provide the best customer service to all customers. We hope you will give us a chance down the road to provide you with a home warranty. All the best, -Jane

This was one of the best service calls. Passion Service Pro did a great job. They are professional, arrived on time, cleaned up, I cannot say enough good. My fridge runs like new. I had been having trouble with a leak and no longer do I have to get up and clean the floor daily.

Kathy, that is wonderful to hear! We have forwarded your feedback to Passion service pro also to let them know what a great job they did. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! Have a good day! -Jane

Poor service contractors. HWA company failed to correctly install new thermostat. Took a month, and still got it wrong. Had to hire a 3rd party to fix. Cost me extra for that and had 2 months of extremely high heat bills as a result. Complained via phone, email and survey, and no one at HWA cared enough to follow up. Poor coverage on other claims. HWA always found a way to partially pay. Wouldn't use again under any circumstances. Surprised they asked me for a review.

Randy, we apologize for the negative experience you had. We would like the chance to look into this further. Please message your claim number when you can. Thank you. -Jane

Filed claim to fix water leak in Ceiling in August 2016. HWA could not find a company to repair water leak in my Ceiling. Instructed me to get someone to fix ceiling. Found company to repair ceiling leak. Talk with person on option 3 and they authorized work to be completed. Option 3 person told repair company to prepare invoice for approved work and I sent in on September 12, 2016. Over the next 8 weeks I called about 8 times to get status and all customer service staff I talk with said they would call back but did not.
This weekend they talk to repair company and HWA decided not to fund ceiling repair based on a Act of God caused my ceiling to leak. I know God works in mysterious ways, however I do not understand why they would tell me to get work done if they did not intend to cover initially. I should ask for written confirmation notice from HWA before committing your own money to pay supplier. As a customer I was asked to do the job I was paying HWA to do and they rewarded me in not paying the claim.

Good Afternoon Robert. We wanted to thank you for sharing your personal experience with us. We have forwarded your claim and details about the claim to our resolutions team so they can review this and contact you. All the best, -Jane

Overall I was satisfied with the service provided by the contractors hired by HWA to perform the work. Unfortunately HWA needs to improve their systems as I had extensive difficulties in having a payment show up on my file and it delayed our being able to file a new claim as we had to wait for a supervisor to review our account even though it was current. Additionally I found there were too many exceptions which the warranty did not cover. I would suggest a good internal evaluation strategy would be to set up special accounts and have management play the part of homeowners requesting service to see first hand the quality of service provided by some reps to identify problem areas that need correction. What finally made us decide not to renew our warranty and seek a different warranty company was the raising of the annual price of a warranty.

Mario, we appreciate you taking the time to provide your personal experience with us. We are working diligently to improve processes within our company to ensure that we have consistently great customer satisfaction. We hope that down the road you may consider using us for your home warrenty company again. Sincerely, Jane

Water was dripping from the AC unit in the attic down through to the living room underneath. While we had the AC repaired (pipes blew out) HWA refused the claim because it had been 13 months since the unit was "serviced" claiming it needs general maintenance service every 12 months. The contract does NOT state I have to have the unit serviced or you won't pay. I am seriously shopping around and doing research looking for a new Home Warranty and will NOT be renewing with HWA again (after 3 years!).

Had nothing but issues with warranty company. Had a broken dishwasher almost a year before it was addressed! Had over 10 service calls to repair and within a week it would break again. Finally after almost a year they agreed to replace but refused to tell me which unit would fit as they were not certain. Overall a horrible experience and would NEVER go back! No wonder they have horrible reviews online!

We had several bad experiences with claims with HWA. Between the lack of customer service and the inconsistent quality of the contractors and their work, we will not be renewing with HWA. We had to initiate much of the follow up and scheduling of work to be done. We paid for HWA to provide quality services for a home warranty and were disappointed on several occasions.

I filed a request in April for a problem with the AC. The exact same problem happened again 4 months later in August. I had to pay a second service fee to have the very same part replaced as the first time. I wrote to Eder ** immediately after the service people left, but never heard back from him. Earlier this week, I got a notice from him saying the case was being closed. Yet, no one has ever answered my complaint.

HWA was quick to get back to me after I submitted an online service request. They gave me the number to call for my services and the business that sent me to was extremely nice. My appointment day is a few days away, but it is not an emergency. I was a little confused if the plumbing service would call me first or not, so I finally reached out to them after a couple of days.

We purchased a home that had been lived in for three months post construction. The homeowner's warranty didn't transfer over, so our realtor recommended we got this warranty just in case things went wrong during our first year. We had a couple incidents and nothing was covered. What a waste of money. We were lucky that the builder out of the kindness of their heart made the repairs even though we weren't covered under their warranty, otherwise we would have been out thousands and thousands of dollars, even though we had purchased an additional warranty. Never again. Please do not contact me with anything in regards to this, I never want to think of this experience again.

My only complaint is that the company often tries to repair Equipment that should be replaced. I understand the goal is to save themselves money, but you shouldn't piece together old Equipment. I would reevaluate this practice and determine whether the equipment should be replaced based upon age.

Dishwasher was continuously repaired more than three times - HWA refused to replace with new as per the additional money I paid to replace with green appliances. Sent over several different repairers and cost me more in service fees than if I had just repaired it myself.
