I had to file a claim for my furnace a couple of winters ago with Home Warranty of America. I called the number, told them what the problem was and they dispatched a service man. I paid $60 for what needed to be done and it was taken care of. However, it took a while to find a contractor to come out because it was in the middle of winter and everybody was busy. Nevertheless, the contractor who came out was very professional and got the job done. Since the service, I haven't had any issues with the furnace.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Ryan! We are happy to hear that your furnace is still running great for you! Have a splendid day! - Ally

My evaporator coil went bad in my AC about 4 weeks ago. I was told that my evaporator coil was covered but replacing my outdoor condenser is not. My outdoor condenser works, but according to them they have to replace both at the same time "because of policy" but because my condenser works so it is not covered. I was told I would need to come out of pocket $3000. I do not want to do this, so I have asked for the "buyout" amount. I have called 7 plus times in the past 4 weeks and they still have not told me how much the buyout is going to be. Every time I have called, I have been told that it will take 24 hours to produce this information. 4 weeks later still nothing. Today when I called, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and when I was transferred to the "supervisor line" and prompted to leave a message, I was hung up on. Horrible Service!! I recommend you stay away and do not purchase HWA...

Good afternoon, Ryan.

I purchased a new home and a home warranty from HWA along with it in Sept 2015. In March 2016 the AC unit failed. I called HWA and filed a claim. They said a repairman would be out immediately. After three days I had heard nothing and called my Rep who sold me the policy. She told me to get a local repairman to fix it and I would be reimbursed. I did so and failed to receive a reimbursement. In June the unit failed again. I refused to hire local this time because they didn't pay the first time. Their repairman called me and said he would not come to fix my unit because HWA had not paid him for previous work done. I called and complained to my agent again.
She got another contractor to come to my home and they did shoddy work and damaged my unit so bad that it needed to be replaced. I was assured that HWA would pay the claim. I got a quote from my local guy for a replacement unit and ordered the unit. HWA paid for half of the unit. I complained and was told that I would be receiving an additional check as well as the repair company for a total of $800 more. I received a $400 check 2 months later and my repairman still has not received his $400 check. I am going to go ahead and pay him off even though he has been great and not demanded his payment.
It is now May 2017 and this simple issue has still not been resolved. The agent has told me 4 times that the final payment is in the mail and yet nothing ever arrives. A totally bad company to work with. Then they had the nerve to ask me to renew my warranty with them. Why would I renew with a company that doesn't pay their claims? To make matters even worse I never received reimbursement for the first repair and I had to pay the second repair company that HWA sent out of pocket. I was able to complain to the owner and resolve that issue.

Hello, John. We apologize for the frustration and inconvenience you have experienced. We value our customers and would like more information around your claim and assist in finding a resolution. When I bought the house that I now live in from my friends, they had several months left on the warranty so they signed it over to me. I have renewed with Home Warranty of America since that time. I did it online and the process was very simple. I called them to submit a claim for a water softener and they set up an appointment with a plumber that they later found out didn’t do water softeners, so they gave me a different one to set up an appointment with and the whole process was not exactly pleasant. It was way more expensive than it should have been and I'm really not that happy. They called me back after that and said they only cover 500 bucks. I have a plumber friend in the backyard who told me what he would install and it would cost 800 bucks.
What the people sent by HWA put in is a slightly inferior product to what my friend would have put in and altogether, they got almost $1200 out of the deal. The quality was fine but the one that my friend would have put in would have been one step above where it kind of learns your habits so if it knows like every Saturday you do 12 loads of laundry it's gonna make sure it's got softened water for you every Saturday with superior consumption. This one just runs. When it gets to a certain point it runs at night and that’s fine. At least it's an efficient one in terms of water and salt usage, but I could have gotten more for less money through the other guy. I was forced to go with the company but you can do better if you shop around and might save a little bit of cash. Overall, I've been cautiously optimistic with my experience.

The home we purchased has an existing home warranty with Home Warranty of America and we continued using it. It's been super easy submitting a claim and I do everything right online or I call in if I have any problems. Generally, Home Warranty of America send me an email immediately with who the contractors are going to be. Then either the contractor will contact me within 24 hours or I contact the contractor.
The contractors have all been also easy to work with and straightforward. The quality of their work has been extremely good. I only had one particular problem with the house that I have been dealing with over and over again. I was having some plumbing issues and every six months or so, our washer line blows over and the contractors have to come in and get the line because of the dishwasher lining. Some of the contractors didn't want to do that. But after the fourth time, they had to do it and the contractor who worked on it was easy-going. The only problem was, every time I called in, I got a different contractor so I would have to explain the situation to the new contractor all over again. Other than that, I haven't had any major complaints and I could not own my house without my home warranty.

We appreciate your feedback, Bibi! Please reach out to us at digitalcare@directenergy.com if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you, - Ally

We bought our home and the warranty came with it as part of the purchase. My wife told me I had to stay with Home Warranty of America. The second time we signed up for their service was for a rental property. Since I travel a lot, sometimes I’m not close by. My wife uses Home Warranty of America as a tool to take care of the property while I’m gone. She had a positive experience with their sales reps. My wife had also submitted a claim and it got fulfilled. I tried filing a claim one time with an air conditioner but Home Warranty of America has specific air conditioning maintenance groups that would fix that and they didn’t like the one I chose. They wouldn’t get involved with that one so I had to work on the AC issue on my own. I didn’t have much to do with Home Warranty of America. I was just going to cancel it and then my wife was the one who wanted to renew it.

Hi John, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for any inconvenience and frustration that this experience may have caused. We are sending you a private message with more information. -Jennifer

When I first purchased my home, the previous owners had already purchased Home Warranty of America, and we decided to go ahead and keep it. We just took the pre-existing contract information and contacted their office. We told them we wanted to renew it and we set up email confirmations. It was a pretty easy process. They contacted us via email letting us know when the account was due or whenever it was about to expire. I spoke with one person and they connected me to somebody else. They knew what they were doing and were fast in answering any questions.
We submitted a claim regarding one of the main water lines about two weeks ago, and I was a little bit concerned that they wouldn't be able to find a vendor for me quick enough. Also, when I called to make a claim, I got a hold of a different operator, so I'm in a tell-the-whole-story situation. If the operator had their own line, I could contact them so they would already be familiar with the case.
I called them back to ask if I could use a different vendor because it took them a little bit longer to find a vendor, and they said that I could but they couldn't guarantee certain costs. That's just because I'd be using a vendor that wasn't on their pre-approved list or I would have to wait for authorization to use a different vendor. I have spoken to a couple of different representatives in the time frame and they found a vendor that was local, and I only had to pay a $100 for the service. They were only here for an hour and everything was fine. But other than that, we've been happy with what services we have had to use with them.

Thank you for your feedback, Jeffrey! We appreciate the 4 star rating! If you should ever have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us anytime at digitalcare@hwahomewarranty.com. Have a great day! - Ally

We were on AHS and then we switched to Home Warranty of America and we had no issues signing up. We've done claims for a couple of ACs, a dryer, and a garbage disposal issue and they’ve taken care of it. I submitted the claims over the phone and the claims people had been great and as helpful as they can be. The only issue I had was it took almost six weeks for them to fix the AC and that was kind of a pain. When it's 110 outside, even one week is too long. So, six weeks was getting ridiculous. It's the middle of summer here in Arizona and I had to buy an auxiliary air conditioner. We had a $500 electric bill on top and having to spend $300 for an auxiliary AC that time was awfully inconvenient.
We had to wait for six weeks because they had to order a new squirrel cage for the fan, which was a special part and when it came, it was so dented up that they couldn’t put it in so the six weeks was even useless. Also, the first guy that came out was lousy and we called HWA and said, "Hey, he's not fixing this right, you have to send another company." The second company was incredible and the guy they sent was great. So some of their vendors are great and some of them aren't.

I've been carrying a home warranty for almost 20 years and it's a good investment. And I've been using Home Warranty of America for 14 years by now. I have multiple companies because I'm also an investor. And I usually just call Liz, from the Chicago office, and she sets them up with with all of the companies every year. When submitting a claim, 90% of the time has been a good experience. The technicians are pretty good and professional. They know what they're doing and they come with the right tools. After the repair, the appliance performed the way it did before and there's no degradation in the performance.
But with any service provider, you're always gonna have one or two cases where the service is not really satisfactory. A few months ago, the guy who did the job, probably did it correctly, but the problem came back within the next few months. The warranty claims they're usually covered for 90 days. So, if the problem comes back after 91 days, you have to start a new claim. But all in all, they are an excellent company with an excellent service. I'm a real estate agent and I would rank them number one of all the companies. So, I refer people to Home Warranty of America.

Thank you for the excellent rating, Manish! We appreciate your business and we are happy to hear we are able to meet your home repair needs. Have a great day! - Ally

HWA just takes your money and doesn't pay for the Claim. HWA denied my claim to fix the AC unit. The reason is that they claim someone tampered with the AC unit and broke it. The only person who worked on it is the technician send by HWA. HWA wouldn't give the report from technician. Their customer service is terrible. Overall complete waste of money. This all happened to me when I have twin newborns at home with 90 degree outside temperature. NEGATIVE STARS.

We bought a new house and chose Home Warranty of America as our warranty provider. There have been no problems signing up or renewing and we've had them for 2 years now. I've had some good and also horrible interactions with their representatives. Some never call back while some do, so I just got to stay on them quite a bit. However, I’d prefer they’d reach out to a bigger spread of contractors to do their work. Some of them are just local handymen who don’t know what they're doing. One time, we had someone come out to work on the Whirlpool and he's a kid who had no idea what he was doing. My experience has been fairly good overall with HWA but it would make our life a lot easier if they could find some better, reputable contractors to serve them.

We use Home Warranty of America for our rental properties and our home address, too. And we liked the 13 months that we got when we bought our house. Signing up with them was easy and we've always done it online, and the only problem we had with that was we can’t use the same email for our several different accounts with them. Our latest claim was for an air-conditioning unit down at my Austin property. I had the tenant show up during the repairs because I’m in Sherman. The filter was changed about a month and a half before the repairs. The tenant took a picture, which she showed me and one could tell it was only two months.
We had an argument with the tech when he said it was not changed within six months. And Home Warranty would not cover the blower motor on it just because that technician said they didn’t change their filter within a month. It says on the filter that the pleated filters are not supposed to be changed until every three months. And the guy did it so he could charge more. So, he came in, ripped us off and he charged $500 to change a blower motor out. When I talked to my technician up here, he said the tech should only charge $300. So, he’s using that as an example to drop time and charge more money to the consumer that has home warranty if the company wouldn’t. And I was very upset with that.
We have an example of the dishwasher, too. We told HWA that the dishwasher wasn’t draining and they sent a dishwasher technician out who said, “Well, it’s the drain line that’s clogged.” And there’s no way that we could have known that. They then called the plumber out who said, “Well, I need another deductible ‘cause it’s a different claim.” So, we had to pay twice for the same claim but it was the same problem. And then, we disputed it with HWA and they said, “Well, you can’t dispute that because they’re two different things.” But the dishwasher still wouldn’t work. Other than those, my wife said the wait time for filing a claim, which we do over the phone since we don’t like doing it online, used to be horrible but it has gotten a lot better. We recommend Home Warrant and we’ve recommended them to everybody we manage properties for.

Home Warranty of America was already the warranty company when we bought my house. They're fine and I've had no issues with them. I can make a claim either online under my account or call them. The first claim was for the water heater and we figured out that we needed a new one. The other claim was a stupid thing that I did on my part. I’ve had no issues with their technicians. The first guy really did try to help us out with the water heater and the second one was really nice about it. Although, I haven't called their reps very much and it's only happened twice. One of their employees was amazing at one time that I even sent an email to her supervisor. She was amazing and great. She ended up saving us money and got more than we thought. I plan to keep them while I have the house and I'd recommend people to them.

My husband was talking to some of his friends and they recommended Home Warranty of America. We added some extra things for our pool recently and we’re going to have them checked out. We have a friend of the family that comes to our house that’s not affiliated with Home Warranty of America who tells us if something’s going on and to have Home Warranty of America take care of it.
So far, so good. But from a personal standpoint, I wish HWA wasn’t as expensive as they are. Of course, there are cheap ones out there, but we’ve been with Home Warranty of America for years and we don’t like to change. If it’s not broken, why fix it? If there’s anything out there that they can do to look at our account and see if we could save some money, that would be fabulous because we’re paying $1,200 a year. We’re always looking to save money and it would be nice to see a discount for good customers who have been faithful and loyal for years. Also, their representatives are basic customer service people. If you ask them questions, they answer it. And if they don’t know, they give you another number to call. I used to manage a group of people like that, and if you don’t pay them that great, you get what you pay for. Other than that, I would recommend Home Warranty of America based on everything we’ve went through.

Thank you for the great rating, Hollie! We appreciate your business and would be glad to assist in any of your home repairs! Have a great week! - Ally

Signing up with Home Warranty of America was an easy process. I only call them when I had a claim or when I need to renew. Everything's been handled well when it comes to the claims process. The contractors have all been okay. They were professional and courteous. I had to do a claim more than once on my washing machine. It was the same problem but it was because they didn’t do it right the first time.
The only thing that I’ve been upset about is the fact that when I first started using Home Warranty of America four years ago, it was at a certain price. But now, it’s over $100 more. I asked a person at Home Warranty to explain to me why and she told me a bunch of stuff that didn’t make sense to me. I normally pay closer to $500. But when I renewed recently, it was over $600. I wasn’t too happy about that. I’m super dissatisfied because I had to pay a lot more for a renewal. Other than that, everything else was fine.

So many things go wrong and because I live alone, I don't have anyone to fix them, and so the home warranty was security for me. They're there when I need them and they get me service. And if I don't hear from them, I can call and they get them right away. It's very comforting and reassuring. Recently, I sent a claim in over the computer and then somebody came in for the microwave. He told me they have to order it and it would take a week to ten days which was very honest. The tech said it could be earlier. But I thought that was very nice, not to shun me off and say it'll be here in three days and then it really isn't. Overall, I've had good experience with them. If you live alone, you're kind of leery, but the people that Home Warranty of America sends us are really very nice. Plus, they call in at reasonable times and when they get here, then they know what they're doing.

For the first three years, I paid and they didn't fix nothing. I actually forgot I had it 'cause Home Warranty of America takes it out of my account. When my Maytag washer and dryer broke, they fixed it for $75, just like the contract said. But when my air conditioning went out, I thought it'll cost $75 for them to come out and fix or diagnose it. And if they couldn't fix it, they'll replace it. On the contrary, it's been the worst problem. With my air conditioning, the compressor is on the outside and they no longer make that, R22. It's against the law. So they had to upgrade that. At first, they were willing to do that for $1500 but the technicians came in and said the new compressor cannot run with the freon that I have and that the evaporator coil has to upgraded. But because it wasn't broken, it wasn't covered and so they would not pay it.
Home Warranty of America said I could do a buy-out but my unit is 15 years old so I know they're not gonna give me anything for the buy-out. So I just had to to bite the bullet and get it fixed and for that, I'm out of $3090. I got some more estimates and even with what they're paying, the cost is about the same thing as if I would have got it on my own. I'm really disappointed in that because even if they could not cover all of it, they could have offered something and they didn't. Also, they said that I'm covered for a lot because I bought a certain package, but what's covered is stuff I don't even have. It says, "Heating, cooling. Heating unit, cooling unit, garbage disposal, refrigerator, dishwasher, trash compactor" and I don't even have a trash compactor.
My son was upset with me and asked why I even have the insurance and pay $52 a month. I told him I got the insurance 'cause when things come up, I can't afford it. If it could have been fixed, it wouldn't have been for $75. Before this happened, I had recommended Home Warranty of America. I've even give them the telephone number to three other people. But when this happened, I went back and told the same people about my experiences.

We're very sorry you've had a bad experience with this claim. While home warranties help offset the cost of repairs in the home, sometimes not all costs can be covered due to warranty restrictions. We apologize for all of the frustrations this has caused. Please feel free to reach out to us if we can assist you with any other specific concerns or frustrations on your account. -Jennifer

I just renewed my contract with Home Warranty of America and I'm already not having a good service with them. The renewal was good but I had already two incidents in my home. One was taken care of and they also took care of the second one but I had to pay out of pocket. My friend also had a spring broken in the garage but he had First Homeowner and they covered every bit of the same issue except the service call. I have a Diamond Preferred Package so I was expecting the same thing but it didn't turn out to be that way. Other companies are covering for the less amount of premium paid. He's paying $630 every year and I'm paying $719 every year so this is crazy. I'm already planning to find a new company two weeks into the contract but I'm still going to have their insurance until I find somebody reliable. I don't want to pay from my pocket and I'm really disappointed.

Hi Amirali, I apologize you had a poor experience with this claim. Unfortunately, because springs and hinges are specifically excluded, we can't cover the cost of repairing or replacing that part. **Absolutely terrible customer service, terrible company. If you don't have time to read my entire review at least read this: AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR HOME. THEY WILL CHEAT YOU ON EVERY CLAIM THEY CAN!** I had a plumbing leak in the master bathroom shortly after moving into a new home. I submitted an online claim and they authorized a technician to come out to my home. After the visit the technician received the $100 service fee and told us they would need to order the part and "not to worry there won't be another fee. Once the part is in we will come back out and replace it."
Lo and behold HWA will not authorize the repair because it isn't specifically stated on the warranty. What a joke! Although the specific part is nowhere stated in the "Excluded" section I was continually told that it wouldn't be included. Why? Because they reserve the right to deny any claim they feel like! That's only the first part of the nightmare. I spent about 2 hours today talking with HWA's people and finally got in touch with a manager named "Alexis" I believe it was. Alexis was the most insincere, disheartening person I have even spoken with in customer service in my entire life. Alexis simply did not care about my situation and continually just told me too bad the repair isn't covered. Further Alexis said my fee simply would not be refunded because "too bad it's in your contract" (I'm paraphrasing that part).
Alexis even went so far as to blame me for using the online claim system instead of calling where "what was included surely would have been explained if you called. The online process is automatic. We have no control over that." When I inquired about additional people I could speak with, Alexis simply told me "no" and that there was absolutely no one else to speak with. Alexis was the end of the line. No accountability. No one to talk to about how terrible the online claim system is if it just default-ly approves everything. No one to speak with about Alexis' terrible customer service. Apparently Alexis doesn't have a boss that holds him accountable for his job performance? Please do not waste your time with this company. They do not care about you or your home. Their agents will continually lie to you and treat you like a lesser person for attempting to use the service as advertised.

We truly apologize for the negative experience you had regarding customer service and trouble in submitting a claim. We will be sending you a private message shortly to get more information around your concerns to see if we can find a resolution. Kind Regards, -Ally

Home Warranty of America is good at processing the claims and the process is easy. However, it wasn't very clear the last time we submitted a claim. Our air conditioning unit wasn't working and they said they will buy it for so little money instead of fixing it. We didn't understand why they offered first to buy it and not to fix it. Other than that, we're happy with the service. Sometimes some of the technicians have to come over and over. And we have one issue where the tech couldn't fix the faucet but they sent another person and he fixed it.

Thank you for your review, Yvette! We greatly appreciate your business. If you have any further questions about your claims or account, please feel free to reach out to us! Have a wonderful day! -Jennifer

I'm writing to express my extreme displeasure with Home Warranty of America's (HWA) failure to perform any service and/or replace two defective appliances at my house as required under the above contract. When we purchased our home in June 2016, our realtor purchased our HWA contract as her way of saying welcome to your new home. Contract coverage period was for June 2016 to July 2017. We've were assured that she had purchased dozens of HWA contracts for her clients in the past and that HWA was a great company. Sad to say but that's not true in our case.
Towards the end of March 2017 our Frigidaire washing machine and GE Profile microwave quit working and/or quit working properly. To that end, I called HWA on March 27, 2017, to file a claim for the two appliances, the microwave and washing machine. I was told that the washing machine was not a covered appliance. I re-read the contract later and verified that statement was true. However, HWA issued a claim number for the microwave and told me they had contacted a local appliance service in my town to have their technician look at it to determine what was wrong. Unfortunately, before the appliance service could inspect the microwave, later that same week our GE Profile refrigerator quit working, so on April 3, 2017, I contacted HWA again and filed a separate claim for that appliance. Both of these claims are discussed below.
Claim No. ** (GE Profile refrigerator). The touch pad on the front of the refrigerator quit working. The touch pad allows the user to raise or lower the temperature of the refrigerator and displays the refrigerator and freezer's internal temperature(s). It also turns the front light off or on and changes the manner in which ice is dispensed. The refrigerator and freezer work but there's no way to control the functions listed above or to determine the internal temperature of the refrigerator or freezer. The local appliance technician came to our house on March 31, 2017, and verified that the touchpad unit was defective for the refrigerator and would have to be replaced. He said he would contact HWA for their approval and, once received, would replace the defective unit.
After not hearing anything for 10 days, on April 10 we contacted HWA regarding the status of this claim. We were told by a customer service representative that the touch pad was not a covered item because it also controlled the ice dispenser. We were also told we owed $60.00 for the service visit by the local technician - dumbfounded we paid the fee even though we'd been told by the local appliance company they would bill us for the $60.00 fee when they repaired the unit.
We then explained to the customer service representative that HWA's denial was not correct because the front of our HWA policy stated that the kitchen refrigerator w/ ice maker was a covered appliance. We also explained that when we moved into the house in June 2016, we disconnected the water supply to this refrigerator and turned off its ice maker because we had our own source of filtered water and ice. HWA's representative said she would talk to her supervisor and call us back immediately. She never called back.
On April 11, 2017, we called HWA again and spoke to another HWA representative who told us again that the refrigerator's defective touch pad was not a covered item under our contract. At that point we asked to talk to her supervisor. After we discussed the issue with her supervisor, he told us that HWA would honor a portion of repairs on the refrigerator and send us a check for $109.00. We disagreed with that decision but told him that money would help us pay for repairs.
We also asked him why we had been asked to pay $60 the previous day to HWA for the service visit since the local appliance company had told us they would collect that fee when they came to fix our appliances. HWA's supervisor said requesting that money was a mistake and we shouldn't have been charged. He said he would have a refund issued immediately and we received it shortly thereafter. Saying that, we have not received the $109 check from HWA for the defective parts on the refrigerator. While we believe all the defective parts are covered items under our contract, at this point, even $109 would be welcome.
Claim No. ** (GE profile over the range microwave) the touch pad quit working which made the microwave non-functional. The appliance technician from said the touch pad and the magnetron were both defective and would have to be replaced. He said it would probably be cheaper to buy a new microwave than replace the defective parts. On April 10 we contacted HWA regarding the status of this claim. We were told by a customer service representative that "higher ups" were determining whether to repair or replace the microwave and we should hear something shortly. On April 11, 2017, while discussing Claim no. ** with an HWA supervisor, we were told that HWA would repair or replace the microwave and we should hear something shortly.
On April 17, we contacted HWA and talked to customer service representative Ms. Renee ** regarding the status of the microwave claim. She reiterated what we had been told previously and said she would henceforth be our "contact" with HWA regarding this claim. She provided us with her email address and said a decision on the microwave was forthcoming very soon. On April 19, 2017, my husband emailed Ms. ** regarding the status of the microwave claim (enclosure 2). To date, we've received no response from Ms. ** regarding our claim.
On April 26, 2017, we went to a local Best Buy store and purchased a new replacement over the range LG microwave for $404.72. That cost includes applicable taxes and installation. On April 27, 2017, we tried logging into HWA's site with our user name and password. Access was denied because "You do not have an active contract in our system." Finally, on the same day, I received an email from HWA with an invoice indicating I owed $60 for Claim No. ** (enclosure five).
This story closely resembles the novel about the gang that couldn't shoot straight. To wit (1) we have a valid HWA platinum service contract; (2) it covers any and all repairs to any and all named appliances in our house whether one or all become defective or quit working during the period of contract coverage; and (3) HWA has not been (to paraphrase your website) "...hardworking, trustworthy, positive, respectful, or helpful."
We have received nothing from HWA except empty promises, lies, and disrespect. We've expended a great deal of time trying to have the two defective, covered appliances repaired so our lives could resume some normalcy. Since HWA failed to honor their legal contract with us, we're paying to have local appliance companies repair the refrigerator next week. And, as stated above, we also purchased a microwave and are having it installed in the next few days.
We're not appealing HWA's unethical decision(s), lies, and non-helpful behavior through HWA's arbitration process. We are, however, forwarding this letter and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection. We're not paying the $60 invoice twice as HWA refunded us that fee once before and the local appliance company has billed us for the same $60 fee. Finally, we will inform the realtor who purchased this contract for us of HWA's failure to honor this contract for two separate appliances despite our best efforts to get them to do so.

I have been with HWA for about a year now. This is maybe my second time using the service. I called on March 20th to report my washing machine malfunctioning. The machine would run but would turn off in the middle of the cleaning cycle. HWA dispatched a company to come and take a look at my machine on March 27th in which the company explained to my husband that the control board was bad and needed to be replaced. I received a phone call the next day March 28th from the technician, who informed me the control board was on back order and he would receive the part between April 17th - April 27th. I was a bit taken back by his time frame but figured this was standard since the part was back ordered. I waited approximately 3 weeks before I called the technician back on April 26th.
I asked the technician if the part had arrived and when was he coming back to repair my machine, he then says "Home Warranty of America didn't call you? They were supposed to call you. They denied your repair because the total cost of the parts to repair your machine exceeded their $500 limit. We informed them we need to replace both boards as it's recommended to replace both at the same time. HWA also asked what caused the damage and I told them I'm not sure." I explained to the technician I never received a phone call from HWA and would call them immediately. I called HWA to figure out exactly what was going on. That's when I was informed that the repair was "covered" under my plan due to secondary wear & tear, which they stated the technician told them I had a power surge which is why the control board went bad and power surges are not covered.
I explained to them I had just got off the phone with the technician who just told me he didn't know why the control board wasn't working properly. And I further expressed my frustration when HWA informed me they spoke with the technician on March 30th when they made their decision and it was now April 26th and I have never received any type of correspondence from HWA in regards to my machine and/or coverage. While speaking with HWA Customer Service the first time (I called 5 times that morning) I requested to speak with a Supervisor to discuss my discrepancy and concerns with my coverage. I was told "all supervisors were in a monthly meeting." I called back subsequent times where I was told at least 3 times a supervisor would return my call. To this date I have yet to receive a phone call from a supervisor, but I am met with a Customer Service rep who "can attempt to fix my problem."
My machine could not have experienced a power surge because the machine still powers on and if I'm not mistaken when an electronic experiences a power surge the item no longer powers on. They have informed me I can receive a second opinion but they have yet to find a company who can do so. I am now going on 6 weeks without a machine or resolution. I would never recommend this company to anyone as they play too many runaround games.

We purchased a warranty (the platinum) with HWA in August of 2016. So far, it has been a complete waste of time and money. There are many loopholes in what they cover and even when something qualifies for coverage, service is extremely slow because there are very few vendors willing to work with them. Our first few claims were denied. Our garage door broke and the motor was covered, but not the spring that needed to be replaced. We discovered water leaking into our family room and the roof was covered but not the skylights.
We had an issue with our water heater, which was covered. I filed a claim and was told they secured a vendor who would be in touch with me. Three days later, I call the vendor only to have him tell me that he did not accept the work from HWA. He ended up coming out after I basically begged him but told me he refuses to work with HWA anymore because they always dispute his costs and it takes him forever to get paid, making it not worth his time.
Our fourth claim was because water was leaking in around our chimney, which qualified for coverage. We filed a claim and waited weeks for a reply. In the meantime, the leaking caused water damage to our wood ceiling. We ended up forfeiting our claim and spending hundreds of dollars with a contractor on our own so as not to cause further damage to our home by waiting.
Our last claim was for a broken washing machine. I filed a claim April 7th. I called twice over the next two weeks inquiring as to the status of our claim and was told they were 'working to secure a vendor'. I finally received a call back that they were not able to find a vendor and that I would have to find my own vendor, have them authorize the repair prior to fixing, pay upfront out of my pocket, and then be reimbursed within five weeks. This was less than satisfactory but this point I had no choice.
I got someone to come out within two days. He informed me there was a hole in the tub and he would need $220 worth of parts, $60 in shipping costs, and a couple hundred dollars in labor. The best part is that he was not able to complete the diagnostic because the machine was flooding my home as soon as he started it. He said there would likely be damage to other parts, but he couldn't tell for sure until he did that repair. Now I'm already $100 in for a service call so now we're talking about $580 to repair a 20 year old machine that cost about $650, 20 years ago. And that's just to get it working so that we can find out what else it needs. The gentleman was very upfront and told me it was really not worth the repair because I could get a comparable machine new for $700-800 dollars.
I call HWA and have the vendor explain the situation, fully expecting them to authorize the replacement of the machine. Nope! Not only did they still want to repair it, but they wanted me to cover the cost of ordering these parts and have them shipped to myself. I explained to the vendor that was not happening because I would not tie up hundreds of dollars in these parts when they were not even guaranteed to fix my machine. After about 30 minutes of back and forth HWA agreed to pay the vendor to order the parts. So at the moment, I am three weeks with no washing machine, waiting on parts for a 20 year old machine, with a MINIMUM repair cost of 83% the cost of a new machine. Completely asinine. If I had known that before I paid the $100 for the service call, I would have just gone to buy a new machine myself. I will not ever use this company again, nor recommend them.

We initiated a claim on January 19th for a malfunctioning cooktop. We have continuously told people that all 5 burners are broken, yet there is no clear plan to fix them. We have had three repairmen come out to look at it. The first one disappeared. The second one disappeared. The third one wrote an incomplete diagnosis and repair plan. It is now April 27 and we get one excuse after another about why this and that are not happening. We have called well over 10 times. Requests for supervisors go to voicemail. Nobody will take ownership of our claim. We have the exact same conversation with every representative and another excuse with every point of contact. This is inexcusable and the warranty is a complete joke. Why is it taking 4 and a half months for a basic claim?

I have had a water heater that needed repair. I have had three service calls that were used $180.00. The first two ended up with the company trying to sell me something and then offering to repair the issue. Well you can imagine I pretty much tossed him out, and he took my check with him. The final straw has been my water heater continued to leak and it just so happened when I went in the basement there were more issues. The company submitted the request to have it covered. HWA called to confirm that I was going to be responsible for approximately $200 for moving gas lines – which completely understand. The new company they hooked me up with received an approval code for the replacement of the water heater. IT WAS CONFIRMED COVERED!
Literally 20 minutes prior to the plumbing company's arrival at my house and the plumbing company was purchasing the water heater HWA called and said they would not cover it because it has sediment in the water heater. Anybody should know any water city or well you will have sediment in your heater from day one! Twenty minutes prior to the arrival of the company... More than a business day to change their mind... They waited 20 minutes to notify me. I spoke with HWA. They told me what I was responsible for. The plumbing company said they talked to HWA two times for the authorization and were told it was good for replacement. The water heater was 20+ years old... Of course it was going to need replacing. Of course there was sediment. Of course once again HWA finds a way to get out of covering the issue.

I purchased a home warranty for $1200 to cover my newly remodeled home that has high-end appliances. I paid extra to ensure they would be covered if they were in need of repair. I filed a claim on Jan 15, 2017 and after weeks of them trying to force me to accept a $500 replacement or a $500 buyout by dragging their feet, not returning my phone calls, when I paid $2500 for the upgraded microwave, they finally agreed to repair it. Seven repair appointments later the unit is still not repaired. One excuse after another why they weren't repairing the unit. Back ordered parts, approved 2 parts when the technician told them 4, after 4 parts didn't fix it they ordered 2 more and still didn't fix it so they ordered another part and it was the wrong one.
The technician would not disconnect the unit from the power supply so he had to balance the unit while still in the cabinet and try to install new parts on the bottom of the unit. Unsafe and why would you take that chance? HWA's response to my concern was he is insured and doesn't work directly for HWA so they are not responsible if he damages my property or creates a safety hazard. I have purchased several home warranties over the years and have never had an issue or been lied to like this company has. I have 40+ emails to support my statements and HWA records all calls but means nothing to the BBB or the state attorney general to really research the facts. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I was told several days later the company would not pay to replace the item because it looked old. Check the BBB website and you will see this company has 150 or so negative reviews and something like 10 positive reviews. On every negative review, a rep for the business replies with some far-fetched mitigation story as if all 150 people are just people who didn't understand their contract. I took off work so I could be home when they came, 12 rolled around and still no word so I decided to call vendor directly to get an ETA. The vendor then informed me that they would NOT be making it out today.
Called HWA who then told me they could not get ahold of the vendor but was still showing they would be out between 11:30-1:30 and that the gentleman I had spoken to at HWA would be giving me a call back as soon as he figured out the issue... never received a call. My husband then called HWA back after work seeing what the issue was and to remind them that we have 3 children at home and needed access to our water! This I would consider an emergency! They told us not to worry and that the vendor would be out this evening and would give us a call in about 60-90 mins: once again never to receive a call. Do you see the lack in communication here? I've been having the same issue with my sump pump for months. It will run without shutting off even though the sump pit is empty. It would run until it overheated and then shut itself off. After this it will work for a couple of days until the problem reoccurs. I called Home Warranty of America, since this is a covered system in the home, and they sent out a plumber. The pump overheated and shut off before he could arrive, but was still smoking when he arrived. Since it wasn't demonstrating the problem at the time of service, they refused to allow him to replace it. The problem reoccurred and I called again. This time I took video of the problem. Again it shut off before the plumber arrived and service was refused. I even heard the plumber on the phone with the company urging them to replace the pump. I had no choice to wait for the pump to give out and risk a flood before they'd do anything.
The pump did finally give out while I was out of town. When I called back saying that I needed another service call and gave them the existing claim number, they told me that the claim expired 4 days previously so I'd have to file a new claim and pay another deductible. I asked to speak to a supervisor who would only say that if I wanted service I'd have to pay, even though I hadn't received service yet in the first place. When I asked to speak to his supervisor or someone with authority to do something about this, he refused. He kept only saying, "I don't have to give you that information." At the end of the day, these people will find any opportunity not to pay your claim and to charge you as much as possible. While I do agree that home warranties are a good idea to have, I would not recommend using this provider.

Purchased this insurance when I bought my home 8 months ago. I have filed two claims in the last month, roof and dishwasher, HWA had no vendors in my area to perform these repairs, I do not live in the middle of nowhere. I live by a city with a population of over 156,000 people. HWA advised me to find my own vendor, have them submit the estimate, wait to see if they approve, then I could pay out of pocket and wait 3 to 4 weeks for reimbursement.
First, I could find no vendors that would jump through these hoops. Second, if had the funds to pay out of pocket I probably would not need the insurance. Third, now I am doing all the legwork that I really don't have time to do, time from my job to make all these calls. I have asked HWA to prove to me that they even have any service providers in the area (a list of vendors) or cancel and refund all monies paid to date. They have refused on both requests. I feel I have paid for a service that they were never able to provide. I will be reporting this to the Oregon Consumer Affairs to look into this for the state Oregon. Very, very disappointed!!!

We've had some smaller issues and some that turned out not to be issues and they've helped. Then Friday our hot water heater started leaking severely in the attic and hasn't stopped leaking. We contacted them on Friday to get some help but of course you can't call, you have to email. No reply by them or their local contact. It's ruined two sections of ceiling (an 8 by four foot section in the garage and a 4 by 6 foot section in the living room), and parts of the ceiling have fallen down, while the one in the garage has one of those giant bins underneath it to catch the water and has to be emptied every three hours. Now it's become a much bigger problem because they can't be bothered to do the job we're paying them for, and is going to end up costing us thousands because we had to call a local professional to come in and help. Looks like we need to find someone else.

I had bought a home in May of 2016 that came with the gold package home warranty. 1st claim I made was on the downstairs AC unit. They had someone come out a week later to look at the unit. He determined it was the compressor. It took them 4 weeks to approve and ship out a new compressor. I would have to call and follow up every couple of days and talk to different people including supervisors to get anywhere. I guess they hope you will just give up. After a month of staying on them they sent the company back to fix it.
The second claim I made was a few months later on the upstairs unit. It stopped cooling and when I called they seemed to have problems finding someone to look at it so this time I just took care of it myself because of the long drawn out process I went through previously. Of course the small things like toilet leaking and the garbage disposal going out I just fixed myself because of the 75.00 service fee I'd have to pay. The third claim was my over the range microwave stopped heating which just happens around the last week of February. When call HWA warranty company they said they would send someone out. A week later I had to call to ask why I haven't heard from anyone. They then gave me a repair shop's name and number and I had to contact them.
When I contacted the repair shop they told me that it was out of their service area. (It was around 50 miles away.) So I called HWA back and they said they would find another company and they would contact me. After almost a week still no call or email from them. So I called them again and they told me they couldn't find anyone to come out and look at or fix the microwave. That they wanted me to find someone to fix it. So they ask me to find someone to come out and for me to pay for the service call and they would reimburse me.
After talking to numerous repair shops no one would come out and when I told them I would bring it to them they said they didn't work on GE brand units. They did say the same thing. That the magnetron was bad and it would be cheaper to buy a new microwave. So after that I went and bought a new one that was identical to what I had. Took pictures of them side by side and email them the receipt and pictures as proof. Now one company said they would come out but it was a 249.99 road service charge without parts just to come look at it. No way I was going to get stuck paying that when I could buy a new microwave for around that price. I knew in my heart that this company would not pay anything.
So HWA drops the ball and doesn't find anyone to service my appliance. Leaves it up to the homeowner to get the job done that they couldn't handle themselves. And refuse to reimburse any of the cost even though they were responsible to do so. So I guess these financial guys are right! Don't waste your money on these companies out there. They make it hard enough on you that it's easier to take care of it on your own.

This is the WORST home warranty I have ever had. I had a plumbing issue last fall which was covered by my plan. They sent out one man that could only work at night. He told me this was his side job. He wanted to tear my entire wall out in laundry room... Even I could tell water was coming from floor not wall... After he waited for 30 on phone for approval to do job he left with my 100 dollars and a promise to come back. He didn't show back up as promised. I asked for a different plumber. They sent me a heating and air man who they said also did plumbing because they just didn't have any plumbers in my area... I live right outside CHARLESTON!!!
He was very nice... Agreed problem wasn't in wall but in floor BUT as he tripped over a step I have in my house he mentioned "I'm OK. I'm just 85 percent blind". He was doing pretty good for a 76 year old blind heating and air man BUT not about to touch my plumbing!!!! Needless to say after much complaining and being told there was no one else in my area I have had it fixed myself. HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. DID I SAY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE???? Beware!!!!!

I purchased this policy to cover my mom's vacant house in Wisconsin until I could sell it and also to provide a warranty for buyers. The first week in January, her boiler (she has hot water heat) gave out and it didn't take long for all her heating lines and plumbing to freeze and break. HWA's provider in Oshkosh promptly and satisfactorily repaired the heating lines. My mother's homeowner insurance processed their portion of the claim on covered items swiftly.
This is now March 8th and I am still waiting for reimbursement from HWA. I called 1/17/2017 and spoke with Pat to confirm coverage. I forwarded a copy of the receipt marked "paid" on 01/19/2017 to the address HWA supplied. Not hearing back, I called HWA on 02/15/2017 and spoke with Kyla and then emailed another copy of the receipt to HWA, which Kyla received and forwarded to the authorization team. I was told I should get a response in 48 hours or less. Again not hearing anything or receiving anything by mail or email, I called 03/03/2017 and spoke with, I believe, Paula. I confirmed that there was only 1 claim and that they had the info they needed. She emailed this info again to an authorization person and now on 03/08/2017 I still have not heard anything. I am very disappointed with the servicing of this claim and am at a complete loss as to understanding what the problem is.

I am currently on my second claim with your company. My first claim took a month from start to finish. My first claim was the worse experience I had with any warranty company. I need the consumers to know that I had a small leak in the basement that was being catched with a bucket. It took 3 weeks to have the claim approved and then an additional week for the repair to be completed. The entire time, the leak got worse and every time I called the Warranty company, they seemed not be concerned at all with my problem.
I am currently on my second claim with the Warranty company. It is going on 8 days from the beginning of the second claim and still waiting for approval. Consumers please be aware that this is a water heater issue and the plumber recommendations were to have the water heater replaced due to the age and not working properly. Signed, Taking Cold Showers for 8 days!!! Hopefully it won't take 1 month to get the second claim resolved.

This company sends out inexperience technicians that do not have the knowledge or desire to fix the problem. The business model is set up for the technician to get paid no matter therefore they have no interest to fix the issue. They waste your valuable time making you wait for another company and appointment. When I called to address this issue their main concern was the technician and not the customer. Please save your time and money and research other companies with a better track record of customer service! This was the third time I had an issue with this company. The HVAC took 5 visit, the oven 3 visits and the electrical 1 because I refuse to play their game anymore.

It was real easy signing up for the service and getting the warranty set up two years ago. I usually submit claims over the phone. I've put in a couple, but none of them have been covered. They just say that my claim is not under the warranty, and there's always a reason. The contract states that they cover certain issues, but when they get here, they say that the issue is pre-existing or they give whatever excuses, which makes no sense to me and I'm not satisfied. Furthermore, after the renewal, my insurance payment went up. It got more expensive for the second year than it was for the first and I don't understand why. I still have the warranty for major stuff though, to have coverage in case something happens.

We were experiencing a leak that was related to our chimney, and we submitted a claim with Home Warranty of America. We ended up doing it on the phone, and the claims representative was great. A service technician came out to our home two days after we submitted the claim. We showed him where we were seeing the issue. He had an idea of where he needed to look and it was exactly where he needed to look. He was knowledgeable, professional, and expeditious. The issue was resolved that day, and we haven’t had a single issue since the repair. Overall, Home Warranty of America hits all the marks, and they get stuff done quickly.

However, I signed an annual contract for my heating and cooling servicing and I couldn’t use my guy because I had to use HWA's. Usually, their vendors are not the best and sometimes they are from nowhere near and you’ve never heard of them before. But the guy who put in my water heater did fine. The other claim was for the icemaker, which HWA doesn’t cover.

We had a couple of claims that had been out before on our air-conditioning and we established a relationship with them so we chose to renew when we had to this past summer. Submitting claims was easy. I called, they sent out a technician and we had our $75 deductible. Then, everything was fixed and that's what I really asked for. Everything's been above par. I have no complaints.

I filed a claim regarding a cracked toilet bowl & 2 leaking faucets. The repair company came and fixed one faucet, order toilet bowl and will have to come back out to replace. The other faucet was not fixed, still leaks. I had to call HWA to have the ticket reopened to have plumber come back out to fix faucet when re replace toilet bowl. Now my other toilet has water leaking from the flapper seal and I called HWA to file the claim so when the plumber comes he can repair all 3 at the same time. I was told that I cannot file another claim at this time. HWA does not allow for more than one claim per month.
Nowhere in the paperwork does it say one claim per month. I feel as if they do not want to honor the contract we have with them. She told me to ask the plumber if he can repair it when he is here and I can just pay him. However, this should be covered with the warranty and I wouldn't have to pay as much as he wants to charge. Very dissatisfied with only being able to file one claim a month. Hope the HVAC and water heater do not stop working in the same month. I would hate to have to pick which one I want to claim.

Our home warranty was purchased for us by the seller of our home. I've renewed it but I wish that they hadn't chosen Home Warranty of America. The renewal process was easy and the sales reps were always friendly. But they didn't return calls or emails. Also, the customer service reps didn't follow-up on the claims. I've been trying to get both the icemaker and our refrigerator fixed for about seven months now. They have sent technicians out repeatedly because the problem wasn't being fixed. Then in November, a technician said that the icemaker was not repairable so to me, that says that they need to replace the refrigerator.
However, I've contacted them 30 times, asked them what's going on with our claim and they just told me that they're forwarding it to a supervisor. It's incredibly frustrating. I also sent them a Facebook message about a week ago and got a phone call back from someone. The lady said she was going to figure out what they were going to do and get back to me. And while I've been going through this process, I've asked to speak with a supervisor 15 times and not one time have I been able to speak to one. They told me that they're sending an email to the supervisor to have them call me but I've never been contacted by anyone.
The only reason I even renewed the home warranty was because we were in the midst of getting this fixed. Otherwise I definitely would not have renewed it due to the circumstances of them never resolving this issue. Also, I've done some research of other people's comments and remarks regarding this company and I have found tons of information that is right along with what I've been experiencing. This is the worst experience of my life. I've been in tears and there isn't a physical building here that I can go to to express my concerns.

We debated on canceling it all together but then decided to keep it for another year to see how things are going with the house. Their staff is helpful especially the last lady who gave us a reminder when we needed to renew and gave us a discounted rate to incentivize us to renew. The last claim we filed for our garage door in the spring didn't go so well. It wasn't very clear why we had no coverage on our garage and I didn't like that that was excluded. It was even one of the reasons we were highly considering dropping HWA. As for repairs, some vendors take advantage of the program. I've had situations where electricians came out to replace one switch and charged us a $100 then I later found out that it really only cost $40. He knew the copay or the deductible and we got screwed on it. So, if I was buying another house, I wouldn't do it with HWA.

Three days later they called me back to say they have already found somebody. By then it was too late. I've already taken care of the problem myself. End of last year during the flooding situation in Louisiana, my AC went out and it took probably a month before it was okayed to replace. I finally got the AC replaced about two and a half months after it first went out so I wasn't very pleased with the service. But when I had a couple of small issues with the oven door and the dishwasher door, they gave me a local provider and they came out within two days and everything was squared away.

And then, I had them back for that same refrigerator, but they couldn't fix it because it's an engineering problem. I also had them in for my microwave, and they replaced the microwave unit and the light display unit. In addition, I had an issue with the air conditioning unit and somebody was here right away to work on that. Everything's working fine. The technicians who've been to my house were from Sears. They were good and knew what they're doing. The only thing is that I was a little concerned that HWA ran the prices up. I started with $375 and they got me up at $450. HWA's 13-month program seemed like a great coverage. But when we renewed, we found out that they couldn’t renew it 13 months, then it went to 12 months, which I think should be explained. They should let people know upfront about that. We’ve had a couple of minor calls with a piece to the dryer door. And then everything went great, I loved the people that came.
Unfortunately, when our air conditioner died, the first person they sent out to check it was a real scam artist. My husband was at work and the technician went, “Why isn’t your husband here?” and “Are you divorced?” It was not appropriate. And then he tried to sell me a new air conditioner without even getting his report back to HW. I said, “No, we’re gonna wait and see.” And the estimate he gave was at least $2,000. He kept telling me I was gonna get a rebate from the warranty company and so it would even out. But I know what people put in their air conditioner systems in this neighborhood and others, since I've been through that with the buyers themselves.
That happened right before we were going out of town for Christmas, and so he was gonna turn in his report. I was gonna check back when we got home 10 days later. I called in and said, “What did they say and what has been decided?” And HWA said, “We don’t have any record of him even going.” He had never sent in the report. They called the company and HWA said to me, “We’ll get that right to you.” That went on another 10 days of me calling every day.
They’ve finally decided to just send out another company and they were a great company. We ended up having them replace the air conditioner. They paid for whatever it was and we got the cash from the HWA and had the work done. But still, I just didn’t understand why HWA didn’t just say right away that they we're gonna send somebody out. And also when HWA called the first company to see the report after 16 times, they said, "The work had already been done." That was funny. And they were never authorized to do anything so how could they even do the work.
But we really liked the company that did the work. And when the county inspector came out to approve it, they said this was the best installation they had ever seen. It was also tidy and cleaned up and the corner of the garage where the inside unit is has never looked so good. We were involved with four different people at different times, and they were all great. So it ended up all right, although that three-and-a-half weeks in between were not pleasant.

We made a claim with our gas stove top and we’ve had three people come out. They first said that it was the little thing that would ignite the gas so they replaced the igniter box. The second time they came out, they replaced some of the wires, and then the third time, they mailed out the plates that it sits on. So we just got those in the mail and we actually had to call Home Warranty and have them send out someone to replace it.
We also submitted a claim for our refrigerator. About a week before a flood happened here, our refrigerator went out. We had to call Home Warranty and had eight different people come out and look at it. They replaced anything and everything they could on it but it kept showing an error on our digital screen. Finally, the eighth person that came out said that it couldn't be repaired so Home Warranty ended up replacing the refrigerator. But it took five months to finally get an answer with our refrigerator and it was a headache getting back and forth with everybody.
We've had many claims with HWA and it doesn't always feel like a home warranty; there are some independent services who just can't pinpoint the problems. But we renewed our home warranty with HWA when it was about to expire and their sales reps were very nice.

Run don't walk away from Home Warranty of America! This company is an absolute scam. I received a 500 dollar 13 month home warranty with the home I purchased in December 2016. I made a plumbing claim and HWA sent out their chosen company to look at the issue. The technician began work before notifying me that HWA would not cover the claim. The bill for the plumbing company was 247 dollars and then they tell me that I owe HWA an extra 100 dollars for going through them! So because I have a home warranty, I am out an extra 100 dollars!!! What kind of sense does that make?!
I spent over 3 hours on the phone between HWA and ** Plumbing trying to get it worked out and they each said the other was billing for the 100 dollars and said I had to pay it or my warranty would be suspended and I would be sent to collections. I will never file another claim with them and am only paying the fee to avoid collections because the warranty is less than useless, it actually costs me money and my valuable time. Reading through the "covered" items, it a total joke. They will only cover something if the 3rd star from the moon passes at midnight and a snowflake lands on their nose at the same time. Other than that you're screwed.

When I purchased the home, I got the coverage of Home Warranty of America with it. It was easy to sign up for the service. The sales reps have been friendly. There have been a few gaps here and there where they dropped the ball on communication but other than that, everything was alright. I submitted a claim on an oven and they sent an outside contractor to diagnose the issue. He said that it was a part that needed to be replaced, that he was gonna order the part and we were gonna repair the oven. It's not totally broken but not completely functional either.
However, one month went by and I didn’t hear from anybody so I made some calls which was frustrating. The contractor told me he was waiting on parts, and then after calling Home Warranty of America, they finally told me that the parts for the oven weren't made anymore so they’re gonna replace it but they needed my approval which nobody called to get or tell me about. The claim process has been going on since November and it turned out they don't have an oven that would fit the dimensions of my current space so I'm gonna have to take the cash settlement for it.

Max, thank you for sharing your personal experience. We can understand how it can be upsetting when a claim is delayed. We have been working on ways to improve our processes and do appreciate your feedback. Please message us with any other questions you might have. All the best, -Melinda

I submitted a number of claims to HWA already. Recently I was having a problem with my heater so I called HWA. The wait time during the call was really long. I had to be on hold about 40 minutes minimum, then every time I needed some approval, that's again a wait time of 20 minutes. But most of the time, I got some response from the supervisor and they're quite good.
However, another concern was the technicians that they gave us especially for the heating and AC were not responsive. When I opened a case, HWA assigned somebody and they said by 48 hours somebody would contact me. I waited for a few days but no one did. I had to call the HWA center and had them call the vendor again and then they called me back. The repair needed a couple of calls in order to get it set up, and I have to be the one to expedite the process. This was for my rental home and my tenant was not very happy. Another problem was most of the time, the vendors don't call me back for what they had fixed. I had to hunt them down to understand what they did. Overall, I don't like the way HWA handles things, but I like that their customer support is working it.

Thank you for your feedback, Sunny. We are working diligently to improve processes within our company to ensure that we have consistently great customer satisfaction. We hope that should you need to use us again, you see the improvements. Have a good day, -Melinda

I placed two claims with Home Warranty of America, but had to cancel both of them. The first claim was for my ceiling fan. They told it would add up to $400. I didn't like that they told the contractor the same information because before they told him the dollar amount, he was willing to work with me on getting the place in the ceiling fan that I wanted to have because that left the dollar amount and I had money left over. Now, I have to choose from a lower priced ceiling fan. If I didn't choose a lower priced ceiling fan, it was gonna exceed the $400 and I would have to pay out of pocket for the balance. So now the ceiling fan still isn't fixed because I'm not paying out of pocket and he was the only guy they sent to contract. I had a first contractor that came out and he said the ceiling was too high, so he couldn't do the job and left.
The second claim was with our bathroom. Water leaked down to the ceiling in our room. And they told us the ceiling isn't covered but it was caused by the water leak from the toilet. So now we have damaged ceiling that we're gonna have to fix on our own which will also be out of pocket. I'm not too happy with how my claims have gone. We're not even thinking about renewing it because at this point nothing is helping. We're just paying HWA and not getting anything out of the deal.

After paying a high premium for upgraded coverage for 16 months in our newly purchased home, we made our first major claim February 2017 for failure of our heating system. The HVAC contractor came, we paid our 100 dollar fee. The technician recommended full replacement. Our contract specifies that regardless of previous maintenance, our system is covered. I.B.7. "Covered systems and components means systems and components are included that are in proper working order on the coverage date that become inoperative due to normal wear and tear, including breakdowns due to insufficient maintenance, if at the time of issue, the breakdown was unknown. Components shall be considered in proper working order if no defect is known or could have been detectable by visual inspection or mechanical test on the coverage start date."
We were told that our heating system was not covered because it was not "normal wear and tear". No explanation was given. The HVAC technician noted improper parts inside the system that had been there and were working for years. When pressed, HWA support representatives cited this as outside of "normal wear and tear" and the reason for denial of coverage. This is clearly a cherry picking of terms and definitions in order to avoid a large claim. This is Fraud so I will call it what it is. Furthermore, we had purchased the highest upgrade possible, GREENPLUS which supposedly offers better coverage.
This is only our downstairs unit! Upstairs, they claim to cover. However, they will only pay for the unit itself despite the contract, V. A-HEATING SYSTEMS - INCLUDED: "All components and parts necessary for the operation of the system." "If HWA is unable to facilitate repair/replacement of covered item at the current SEER rating, repair/replacement will be performed at higher compliant." So HWA thinks it is fulfilling this contract by providing a unit that sits in the attic, attached to nothing. Common sense renders this ridiculous, but this is HWA policy toward us at this time. SUMMARY; RUN DON'T WALK away from Home Warranty of America.

Brent, we sincerely apologize for the kind of experience you had. We would like to look further into this matter with you. We have messaged you so we may get additional information. Thank you. -Melinda

I found out about Home Warranty of America through my work and I also got a discount so I signed up and it was very simple. I have not had any issues with anybody that I've had to deal with. They've all been very helpful. I usually call them to file a claim and things usually get resolved the first time.
At one point, we did have a problem with one of the people that was sent out here to do some work. We had an air conditioner issue and because this is a mobile home, these people didn't know what they were doing. We didn't realize at the time they didn't know what they were doing, but it got taken care of in the end. The home warranty company was very good about changing and we found somebody else that knew what they were doing. The recent claim we had was get the garbage disposal replaced and it was a very simple process. We've really had good luck with the people they're sending for the most part. They were all good. I have recommended HWA and if I had to do it again, I'd do it again.

I've had to call EVERY time to see what was going on. They need my home inspection report, Great. Sent that over right away.
While I was on the phone with the rep. the second rep. I spoke to didn't even have it uploaded into my account. The third was able to but didn't contact me that they needed more info. It was about a good three days before someone was able to come out to fix the AC. I have a three year old and a nine year old and it was not acceptable at that time so I was getting a little frustrated with the process. I felt like there should have been other options available. If they're gonna have a warranty that people would need to make claims on it, there shouldn't be just only one or two people being contracted to do the work. That was maybe what was going on. I just hope that with the price going up that the services reflect that. We bought this home about a year and a half ago. And the homeowners and the mortgage company set us up with HWA. It was for an 18-month coverage. And after the 18-month, we got a letter saying if we would be interested in furthering the policy. So, in September, I did. But in August I had this problem with the plumbing and I called up HWA. The rep was very nice. She referred us a to technician and I had given him a call. But they were booked up and they couldn’t come out. HWA said that they didn’t have anybody available at that time.
I had water on my bathroom floor and I needed help so the rep told me that if I wanted to go and get a plumber of my own, I would have to submit the invoice and then they would reimburse me the amount outside of what I normally pay which is $75 for a tech to come out. So, I did that. They have the picture of the invoice but they just keep saying, “I can’t understand why it hasn’t gone through processing. I’ll have this one checked.” And one lady said, “I’ll send it to the three heads and I’ll make sure that they call you within 48 hours." Three weeks went by on that and I still didn’t get anything.
The last customer service agent I talked to connected me with the phone of one of the supervisors. I got a message that “he was not available at the time, please leave a message.” So I left a message, “I need someone to call me today or I’m getting to the point I want to cancel.” And as of yet, I still have not heard from anybody. And I’ve been trailing it since then to get my $500 reimbursed. So, I’m quite frustrated. But when I've had to call them once before, I haven’t had a problem at all. They were able to contact me with someone who I needed. And they came out and the job was done. They even checked back to make sure that someone did come out. I'm satisfied with HWA except for this one issue with the plumbing.

I have been enrolled to HWA since an year. I submitted my first claim since my dryer was taking a while to dry and heating up. Your tech came opened all its parts. I asked him whether lint is the problem. He said no and told there is some other issue. After a while my wife went and asked the same question and he replied the same.
After about half an hr he calls me back, showed me a part whose small piece was broken (this part was intact when we saw that half an hr ago). He tells that he was able to break it because it was brittle. He tried break it more just to show that it was indeed brittle. He could break a very small piece again by his hand and a tool. He then told that that part is covered in warranty and there is nothing to worry. He told that he would come and replace it within two days. He asked if he can keep the dryer dismantled. I said yes because I wanted to clean it and also felt it makes sense since he is returning in two days.
Then $75 was deducted from my account as discussed which is ok. After 2-3 hours HWA representative called me and argued with me for about 45 minutes that part broke because there was lint in dryer's duct. This is strange because the tech did not even touch the dryer duct, forget about examining it. The lesson which I got from my first experience with HWA is rather bitter. If the tech broke that part it's his responsibility to change it. Also I am really disappointed by HWA to use this cheap tactic to save some bucks.
My dryer is still dismantled and two-three pieces have been broken from that part by the tech. If you can't replace that part then get that part as it was working before. This is first my email against a bad experience to anyone. I am deeply anguished and unsatisfied and would never trust HWA for warranty anymore. Waiting to hear from your side.

I’ve had two good experiences with HWA. The other one, our heat went out this last time on a Friday. I called, set somebody up to come out Saturday, but nobody showed up. I called the place and they didn’t answer. I called back HWA and I couldn’t understand the woman I spoke with. English was not her native language and I had some very choice words with her, so I was beginning to get upset. I’m not an idiot, but when your accent is so thick and I can't understand you, I have to ask to speak to someone else. She gets offended and hangs up on me.
I called back again and got someone else who helped set up someone else to come out. I’ve got a two and a three year old, our furnace went out and it was 16 degrees and nobody was coming out to fix it. So I called back again. And when the guy from the third different company was scheduled to come out, it took him two days to come out and fix it with the right parts. But eventually by Tuesday they got it fixed after complaining. So that’s frustrating.
The same happened with the air conditioning that went out in the summer and it took them almost two weeks to come up with the people to fix it and find the parts for it. They don’t really care about us. Once we’ve paid our premium, they’ve got what they’ve want out of it and they don’t wanna output any money. But it’s a service I’ve paid for and it’s a service I expect to be done. However, I’ve had worse home warranty companies in the past.

Our real estate agent suggested two companies and my husband wanted to go with something that wasn't as expensive which was Home Warranty of America. It has been an okay experience with them but there are just a few things that we've had issues with. In enrolling, my husband worked through my real estate agent. He talked to them and found out what the specifications are. He wanted to make sure that they cover the water heater and the air conditioning unit. And we went with what our real estate agent suggested.
I usually submit a claim over the phone but have done it online, too, and it's easy. They just want to know what’s going on with the product then they contact the vendor and the vendor calls within two days. There have been times when the vendor somehow got missed and almost a week went by before we heard. But I usually call within two days if I don’t hear back. The HWA reps are friendly and if I have a question about what is gonna be covered, they answer them.
The last time I submitted a claim it was for the unit for the heating and cooling which wasn't working mainly because the batteries exploded into the unit. They said that it was a 10-minute job, and they went and ordered it to see if they had it. We waited a few days to hear back from them and they said that they had the unit in hand. The technician then came out and installed it. The only thing I made sure was that he said everything worked fine. He also said that he could hear the heat kicking in but I couldn’t feel air flowing out. So I asked the technician to recheck it again and he realized that the wire got loose when he was attaching the wire to the unit. It's now a different unit and is working as normal. But what we ended up doing is clean into the unit which is a lot smaller and the paint now shows.
There is only one incident that we weren’t happy with and at that moment we were thinking that it was not worth keeping their coverage. When a plumber came, he didn’t have the right tool to even take the handle off in our shower. My husband was able to remove the screw without any trouble when he came home but the plumber told Home Warranty of America that we stripped the nail even if it was never stripped. HWA then called me rudely and said that they were not going to cover it because my husband tampered with the handle. It was ultimately the plumber’s fault and he didn’t have the right screw handle to remove the screw out and he blamed us for stripping it even if it was never stripped. That kind of irked us because it’s almost as if we had to play dumb, and let them do their job.
I got in trouble with my husband. He asked me why I said something about it and I answered that I was trying to help the plumber out. The warranty didn’t cover for it and we had to pay almost over $200 for a new handle and cartridge ring for the shower. Overall, Home Warranty of America is a good company but they definitely don’t cover everything.

Thank you for sharing your personal experiences with us. We want to apologize that your experiences were not always exceptional with us. We do understand how it can be frustrating when things are delayed or not covered. We have sent your feedback to the appropriate team in hopes that we can improve our processes in the future. I filed a claim on Thursday, 2/9. I received a phone call from the contractor that afternoon, and set up an appointment for the evening of 2/10. The evening of 2/9, I received an emailed invoice from HWA stating that I must pay $100.00 service fee immediately to prevent suspension of service. No service had been performed at my home at the time the invoice was sent. I called HWA on 2/10 to ask why I had received the invoice. They stated that the contract claimed they had been at my home on 2/9, and had not been paid for service. I stated that this was not true. I was told that I would receive a call back after HWA had spoken with the contractor. I did not receive a callback.
The contractor arrived at my home at approximately 9 pm on 2/10. I gave the service tech a check for the service fee. The morning of 2/11, I was still having issues with my furnace. I called HWA again on 2/11 to notify them of the issue, and I was told that another service call could not be performed because I had not my service fee. I was told that I must provide a receipt to prove that I had paid my claim. I took a picture of the receipt and emailed it to HWA. I also called the contractor on 2/11 and left a message regarding the issue. The contractor called me back and stated that they had not closed out my claim with HWA and that HWA should have no reason to believe that I had not paid my service fee.
The contractor sent out a tech on 2/11 to look at my furnace again. He stated that they would need to order some replacement parts and that I would receive a call on Monday morning regarding setting up a time to install the new parts. I did not receive a call from the contractor on Monday morning and attempted calling them in the afternoon. I called them 7 times, and no one ever answered the phone. I left 3 messages and did not receive a callback. I called HWA on 2/13 to let them know how disappointed I am in the service from this particular contractor.
Late in afternoon of 2/13, I received another email from HWA asking for a copy of the cashed check to prove that I had paid my service fee. I wrote back stating that they need to contact the contractor immediately to resolve the situation. The check has not yet been cashed, but I did provide the tech with a check the evening of 2/10 when the initial service was performed. I do not understand why HWA is relying upon me to "prove" that I paid my service fee when the contractor has made no claim that I did not pay. This situation is infuriating. Meanwhile, I have a furnace that doesn't work properly, and I cannot get it fixed due to HWA's own internal issues.

Sonia, we apologize for any misunderstanding. We would really like to review this further for you. Please message us with your claim number, and the best contact number for you. Thank you, Melinda

I'm a widow and I don't have the money to replace an air-conditioner or the plumbing from the sidewalk if either of them goes out. So it's cheaper for me to keep some warranty to guarantee that it'll be taken care of for $100. I've had Home Warranty of America for two and a half years. Their sales reps were courteous and were able to answer my questions. When I need something fixed, they're here within a few days after I call them. However, I was a little surprised that the motor in my refrigerator ice maker wasn't covered.

Our first year with HWA was included in our home purchase and when our one year expired, I was the one that initiated to sign up for it to continue. Our interactions with customer service have been mostly online, which has been fine and really easy. Whenever I submit a claim, almost immediately I get an email confirmation saying they received it and that they will be processing it and then getting back to me. Then I get another email that says who we’ve been assigned with and the phone number for me to call to set up the appointment.
They recently came out to fix a part on our oven. I’ve had to call them a couple times because it took quite a while for the part to come and then when the part finally did come, we had to wait back for them to come and install it. The first company wasn’t able to come out to service it. It was a busy time and but they found someone else and reassigned me to a different company. But we finally just got tired of not having an oven. It was going to be five to seven days after the part came that they were gonna be coming to install it. My husband’s a contractor and he just put the part in and it was fine. But other than that, they’ve been really prompt and easy to work with. Overall we’ve been happy and satisfied with HWA.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. We are pleased to hear that overall everything has went well when you needed us. We are always working to improve our processes and appropriate the feedback. Have a good day, -Jane

Original repair request placed in October 2016 for a double oven that does not hold the selected temperature. I am now in month 5 of waiting on this claim (today is February 10, 2017) after numerous phone calls to them. HWA has sent repairmen to my home 5 or 6 times (requiring me to take time off of work.) I had no stove for Thanksgiving or Christmas. They will not help me. I am very frustrated. I get promises that they will settle this and call me back, and then nobody calls me. They argue with me on the phone. Seriously, nobody cares at this company. DO NOT get insurance through them. This is the biggest mistake I have made in a long time. My only recourse at this time is an attorney. Don't make the same mistake I made. I am sick inside about this, and very stressed. Repairmen come and do the same thing over and over. It drags on and on. I have never written a negative review about any company. Warning - stay far away from these people.

The contractor called me back and he was gonna book his appointment the day they print it out and get me on schedule. He took care of the issue pretty fast and only spent a week at the most. Misleading information. As a first time homeowner our realtor was nice enough to purchase a home warranty for us. We have had to call them on 2 separate occasions, the first for a plumbing issue that was resolved and a very easy process (so far so good, we even decided to renew once we hit 1 year). The second time we called it has been a nightmare. To boil it down: we have an older heat pump and air handler. The heat pump was diagnosed with a leak and some other part was failing. After working with 2 different contractors (because HWA the first contractor did not feel that it was worth his time to finish since he was only getting 3 hours to do the job), we got a call that our system was to be replaced.
Because our heat pump and air handler were older, if you replace the heat pump, IT IS REQUIRED BY LAW that the air handler be replaced because the refrigerant is not compatible. HWA states that they will not pay a dime for the new handler that is required for my new heat pump to operate. Not a single person I have spoken with has shown an ounce of compassion, not willing to work with me on a solution. I have read reviews on here where "customer service is your top priority" it does not feel so in this case. In fact I was called originally and quoted $1700 for the job and only once I asked for a supervisor to go over those charges with me did they call back and say it would now be $3700. I feel like I was punished for asking questions.

Signing up with Home Warranty of America was great. The sales rep quoted me a price, told me how it worked and what my options are. But I didn't buy that day 'cause I wanted time to think about it and she was very compliant. I called back a few days later and picked right back up with her. HWA has done a very good job. Submitting a claim with them is easy and takes all about 5 minutes. The problem I had is that they don't tell me what's not going to be covered.
For example, they're going to come out and replace my water heater. Even though my hot water heater's covered, there's $1,500 worth of extra stuff that's not covered to bring it up to code, and that's the kind of stuff that should be outlined in some fashion. Then the plumber tried to gouge me because they knew I got to pay them but on my end, I didn't want to pay it and I took care of that another way. The general layman probably wouldn’t know that they’re being gouged and I don’t like that. They don’t do it to me but I can see they do it to other people, taking advantage of them.
I'm very pleased with HWA overall but I've learned to be very cautious when I call a claim in. If they were to offer $10 extra a month to cover items that are not up to code, I would've paid it. Other than that, they've been very good at fixing my stuff and their customer service is impeccable. One time, we've had a couple problems with the contractor which they took care of immediately. That’s why I renewed with them and I’ll renew with them again if service continues to be the same.

Thank you for taking the time to share your personal experience, Wayne. When I first bought my house I had a contract with another company, and it went out of business. I was talking to my real estate agent and they told me to get Home Warranty of America. So I purchased warranty for my home and rental house. I recently submitted a claim when my microwave encountered a problem. I called up the company and a day later the guy came out and looked at it. They took off the microwave, changed the magnetron and put it back in. The microwave worked and it hasn’t had any trouble since. The service guys were friendly but one of them had an issue of having to clean up.
We also had an issue with an expensive faucet in the house, which they said had to be replaced. But they gave me money for a cheaper faucet. They didn’t give me the money for replacing the exact faucet that was there. So I had to cover the difference. But overall, Home Warranty of America honors the contract and I had a very good experience with them.

Bought this warranty with the purchase of my house about a year ago. First claim I made was for a disposal which stopped working. Deductible was $60 so I canceled and replaced it myself since I didn't want to wait over a week for the repair. A new disposal doesn't cost much more than $60 so it wasn't worth me waiting. My second claim was the over the range microwave. The microwave is a recirculating venting microwave and they give me the option of the cheapest external venting microwave that GE makes. I call them and their customer service agent said they have researched it and this microwave is the most comparable.
Seems like they aren't comparable if I can't even turn the vent on since I don't have a external vent. They are "researching" my claim again. Seems like this company is more worried about saving money than actually getting what the customer needs and deserves. And if you're a warranty company and you can't even get the right item to the customer, what use are you. Definitely will not be renewing, and anyone that asks I will say "this is not worth it". This claim was for a microwave. Think about a claim for a more expensive item like heating and air. I can only imagine. Terrible business.

It was a horrible experience because the reps kept hanging up on me and they were very rude. I had someone come out and look at my garage last year when it was still under the original purchase agreement and I had to have a warranty since then. My package, which came with the purchase of the condo, had Home Warranty of America in there and it explained everything what they covered and how it was done. All I had to do was read it. When you submit a claim, you have to pay $60 then they send someone out. Sometimes they can get someone right away but sometimes a day or so. They repair whatever needs to be repaired. When I had water running from my washer to the floor because of a busted water pipe, they had to dig behind the washer to fix that. They get the work done. However, if I don’t use it for some reason, I'm just paying that money because I pay a monthly fee.

The seller of the condo had Home Warranty of America for me for the first year and because the a/c and the furnace were very old, I decided to stay with them. So in case one of those went out, I would have that covered. The overall experience with them is between fair and good, not excellent. We always had to use their technicians and I got feedback that HWA is slow in paying their technicians and that's why a lot of contractors do not want to work with them. Other than that, it’s been real good with them lately and they serviced quickly.
But in 2014, I went through the month of July without an air-conditioner because they had to do so much fussing around with the communication between getting a technician here and communicating with them and that contractor not being able to get through to get it done. I was always put on hold and I had work to do so that was a big issue. It didn’t seem it mattered that I was in a 90-degree-condo in heat and everything without air. It was horrible. But I ended up getting a new a/c unit after almost a month. So, it turned out okay.

The technicians that Home Warranty of America sent out to work on my water heater, air conditioning fan and thermostat were very good. The HWA reps listened to my concerns and put me with the company that I felt was the one I wanted. I get the name of the company from HWA, then I go on Better Business Bureau and Angie’s List and check. If I don’t like what I read, I tell HWA that I do not want those people, and they've been flexible with me in providing somebody that has good ratings.
But the water heater became an issue at one point because they wanted to try to fix this and that, and it never worked. And finally the technician said that I need a new water heater and HWA replaced it. I was pleased about that, and haven't had a problem with it from then on. However, it was 17 days when I first moved in that I had no hot water at all. So I didn’t like that one bit. The way I look at it is probably HWA choose their contractors based on the monetary deal that is struck between the two of them, but that shouldn't be what I have to deal with when I need to have a repair with a service that I've already paid for.

Thank you for your feedback, Norma. We have forwarded your feedback over to the appropriate team to review. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns. All the best, -Jane

My realtor purchased the policy from Home Warranty of America when we bought our house. It is awful compared to the one we had before. We don't have any control over what companies that they choose or what times that they choose. The last time I had a service call I called and they said they'd be here between 9:00 and 5:00 PM. So I took off, but the guy never showed up. We rescheduled, took off, the guy never showed up. My husband rescheduled, he took off, the guy never showed up. So three days of work and then on top of that it's $100 service charge every time they had to come out. We're very, very unhappy.
I renew this year only because it's almost impossible for me to find another home warranty company if I'm not purchasing a new home. My husband breaks everything so I need a home warranty. Home Warranty of America would definitely not be one that I would recommend to other clients when I work in the field. You call Home Warranty of America, then they call somebody. Here we are waiting on the guy from Sears from New Orleans to come fix our washing machine. I don't know what they drive but the story was that his car caught on fire twice. In the renewal process, we called them and told them we wanted to renew. They sent us a new policy with different dates on it and continued pulling the money from our account every month.
The claims process is very easy and I'd look up the number off my policy, call into the helpdesk, and tell them what the problem is. They take down information and within a day or so somebody we needed who's a specialist in that field calls me back. The HWA people we've worked with were helpful and a couple of times, they're informative and always put us in touch with the right people. We've already called three times and the first time the contractor who called me back told me how to fix the problem myself, which actually saved us a bunch of money. I call and tell them what the problem is, and they record it and set up a local vendor to come out and check on the problem, and then the problem gets repaired. The only issue that I had was with a hot tub repair when they didn't have anyone that had the ability to do a service call for that problem. So, I went out myself to find someone to do the repair and they ended up covering the cost. For the most part, however, it's been problem-free with Home Warranty.

We've been with HWA for almost three years now. They were recommended to us by a friend when we purchased our first home. We've happily paid our monthly payment for over 34 months, with no issues. On September 27, 2016, we filed our first claim when our hot tub went out. It took HWA two weeks to tell me that they were unable to find a preferred vendor in our area, and it was up to me to find one. I found our service provider in 5 minutes on Google. It then proceeded to take at least another month to approve the service diagnosis. I did not have a good feeling about just getting a verbal confirmation that the service would be fully reimbursed, so I called back to ask if I could have something in writing. I was assured that everything was in their system and there would be no issue. It was further explained to me that reimbursement could take 6-8 weeks, but typically it was much faster - even 2-3 weeks.
The service was scheduled and completed in early December, and the final invoice was emailed to two separate HWA addresses on December 12 and 15th. No response was received to acknowledge submission. Finally, in mid-January, I decided to call to check on the status of reimbursement. I called three separate times from the middle of January through today (1/27) - each time the CSR said they would look into the issue, contact the reimbursement department, etc. and get back to me (I was never contacted back).
Now just this evening, I received a call from HWA stating that they didn't think they could reimburse the service (something about splitting hairs as to what the actual replacement parts purpose is). We would never have proceeded with the service if HWA hadn't approved it completely first. Now HWA is contacting the vendor again to get a better explanation as to what service was actually performed, and what the function of the replacement part was meant to be.
It's very obvious that they need our reimbursement more than we do at this point. This has been an absolute nightmare. I would only hope they would perform better if the issue at hand were something more serious (heater, A/C, septic, electrical, etc.). I feel that we've slipped through the cracks, and now we're just getting punted around while HWA is frantically trying to cover their tracks. If you're in the market for a home warranty service provider, I would desperately urge you to look elsewhere.

Hayley, we would like to apologize for the frustration. This is certainly not the kind of experience we want any of our customers to have. Please message us your claim number so we may further investigate this. Thank you, -Jane

Our daughter convinced us that getting a home warranty was a good thing to do. We've had several claims since we've been in the house. When our ice maker and washing machine went out at the same time, we called Home Warranty of America and the same people came and did both of them. Everything went great. They changed the pump on the washing machine, but didn't really fix the whole machine because it went out again within a month's time, and they had to replace the whole thing.
Then the water from the refrigerator went up on the walls, and they changed the ice maker and water valve. However, it never made ice and they came back three times. The people Home Warranty of America sent called the plumber and said there was no water pressure, but the plumbers that came said the water pressure was great. We asked them to get somebody else to fix it because we didn't think the guys knew how to do their job, and the other people they got who were local, did a great job. They came out and fixed it the first day and never had a bit of a problem after that. As far as the other stuff, we had a back up on our air conditioner, had water all throughout the house, and they responded real quickly. They came and dried the house. The next day, they put all the floorboards up, the carpet, and the wood stuff. They did a great job and I was real satisfied.

When we bought the house, we had a policy from Home Warranty of America. Then we had problems with our refrigerator, freezer, and it took them several visits to fix it. But it all turned out well. And because we didn't know the house very well yet, we decided we would just do it again with them and re-upped a year later. I would recommend them.

The people who we bought the house from had Home Warranty of America. We had had one call with HWA and got good service so my husband renewed it online and there was no problem at all. When we called for service, HWA aligned us up with somebody who was not able to come for a week so they let us use somebody we found ourselves. They had to be approved first but that was no problem and that also helped us get the issue done quicker. It's been an efficient and friendly service so we'll probably renew again.

We have submitted one claim and the process was really easy and quick. Somebody called back almost immediately. We had a little bit of an issue renewing the policy but that was just miscommunication on their side and wasn't a big deal. It was taken care of. Other than that, I have no complaints. I bought a house in 2015 and Home Warranty of America was the home warranty that I've been set up with as part of the agreement in the purchase of the house. I was already familiar with them, had to use them once when my air conditioning went out, and it was a really seamless process. The amount they were asking for wasn't ridiculous so I didn’t see any need to make any changes, hence, I renewed with them. I wasn't exactly sure how to go about doing the renewal because I'm a first-time homeowner so I ended up calling whenever I received something in the mail indicating that my home warranty was going to be running out. I called to make sure that I was doing everything the way I needed to and to see what my options were exactly and the rep was pretty nice in telling me all of the options.
When I submitted a claim, I called and gave some information on what the problem was. HWA said that they would call me back to give me the name or the information of who was going to come out and fix my air conditioner and then told me that it was going to be $100 upfront fee. It was a same day call and the very nice repair guy ended up coming out really quick. I haven't had any issues with my air conditioner since. Overall, it was a good experience and HWA is very pleasant and seemed to be quite prompt in getting me what I needed.

I bought their best policy that they sell to cover pools, spas and my house. It turns out they cover nothing. They will not cover the booster pump on my pool so I replaced it myself then he come time to fix my ac and they will only cover $10 a pound on Freon, it cost $90 a pound. After paying a $75 deductible on top of that they will not look for a leak until you I have recharged it twice so you're letting money just leak into the year twice before you find the problem. The customer service rep barely spoke English. Got aggravated with me when I was canceling my policy and calling them out on their lack of coverage and hung up on me. I would highly advise you look into another home warranty company. I bought four houses with warranties and have never been treated like this.

I am a realtor and I've worked a lot with different warranty companies, but they're not as good as Home Warranty of America. Signing up for the service was simple for me. I just went to my online portal and fill in the information. I've already had three claims with them and it wasn't hard to submit them at all. They are easy and reliable. Also, their sales rep is a personal friend of mine and she's great. I have referred them to all my clients. However, the house located at Gatlinburg got burned down from the wildfires there. So I asked them if I could postpone my policy, but they said that they would just cancel it out since I have just renewed it and that I would get a refund. It's been about a month now and I haven't received it yet.

We would love to assist you with checking on the refund, Jarrod. Please send us a message with your claim number, and a good address for you.

I bought a house less than 2 years ago from an old lady that has these old appliances. I told her I'm gonna have to replace all those appliances and she said that they're still working and suggested to give me a home warranty that covers any problems with those. And I said great and got Home Warranty of America. I had a problem with the air conditioning units, and I'm having a problem now with the water heater that's dripping and leaking in my garage but still working. The AC guy who came out here said that once it's broken, he can come out and fix it under my warranty but until then, I'm out of luck. I'm really nervous about it. It's a hazard for me and is costing me money. It really should be fixed because in the middle of winter, I might be in a situation where it's broken in the middle of the night and I'm calling for help. I'm trying to get this thing done now and prevent that from happening.
And there's obvious corrosion as well as there's water that sits on top of the connection there. Home Warranty of America is a disaster recovery solution, not a preventive solution. That's why I don't like having these home warranties. What I'll do next time around is I'd rather spend the $500 policy that I have with them on appliance once a year. I got what I needed with Home Warranty of America but it's not something I'm gonna continue with.

Fernando, please send us your claim number so we may look into this with you further. We can understand your concerns.

When we were looking at several options for home warranties, we evaluated a few warranties. But since HWA was recommended to us, we decided to sign up with them on September 2015. The initial set up went fine and they seemed friendly, but in the months to follow I have encountered so much pain with HWA. I feel like every time I try to submit something, I have to fight and prove it. There's verification upon verification. I recently submitted a claim for the sewage line. We actually added coverage. And now that we have a problem, they're saying, “No. We're not gonna cover it for you.”
When I was talking to a representative, she had talked about the potential for lightning strikes in North Texas with storms. And she did a good job talking about it and selling it. And I said I'll go ahead and add it to the coverage. Then five months later, when we had a big storm, several things were affected. The electrical monitor for our sprinkler system got hit and was totally fried. So I've filed it with HWA and they had their guy look at it. He said, "It's tied to that storm and it got hit by lightning, and you're gonna have to replace it.” So once we replaced it, HWA said, “No. It's not a part of your house. It's in the garage so that doesn’t count.” I said the garage is part of my house and I fought it. Finally, they ended up saying okay but it was after so much pain of having to fight it. Right now, there's something else that’s going on, and I don’t wanna do this anymore. There's been a lot of frustration and I'm likely going to switch because of it.

The second one was when we recently brought people again to fix our dishwasher and it was quickly fixed too. The people were very good and worked very neatly. $60 as a co-pay is not expensive. I would not recommend Home Warranty of America. When we call them to file a claim, they always call an independent contractor and they tell us whether a claim is covered or not. But we still have to pay the 75 bucks regardless if it's covered or not. When we had a problem with our old thermostat, they sent the HVAC contractor. Since the house was 23 years old when we bought it, we had no idea how to operate that thermostat. The contractor who came out showed me how to operate it because something had gone wrong with it, and it had been set up incorrectly. He had reset it for me, explained everything and showed me how to correct it. He was a really nice guy.
And three and a half years ago, when we had some problems with our heater, they sent somebody out. Then they found out that somebody had jury-rigged some stuff on the heater. So they were gonna replace it, which was fine, but because all of the jury-rigging that was done, they had to deduct that from the overall cost. And that's cost us more than I thought it should have at that time. But we didn't argue about those things because we needed a heater. So they certainly don’t cover a hell of a lot. I just haven't had the time to go out and find somebody else.

Home Warranty of America came with my home when we purchased it. Not soon after, our circuit panel blew and they replaced our whole circuit panel which was fabulous because that was a $3,000, if not more, fix that they took care of. So that was really nice and it was the most reasonable price. I have submitted a claim on Friday that I’m still trying to get results. They asked me what the problem is and if it was in working order before the problem happened and then they set me up with someone to come out to the house. It was an emergency case because my heater went out and we were minus 38 degrees, so it was followed up within hours after the claim was submitted.
We replaced the fan, but there’s something that’s not making the heat blow out and until that completely goes, they will not replace the unit. The technician is coming over to see if there’s something else that he could do. It’s still a little chilly and the motor is very noisy. It has a really loud squeak when it tries to run. So it’s inconvenient, but I’m not freezing like I was when it went out. So far, it has been a very pleasurable experience.

We've had to file two claims with Home Warranty of America in the past two years, and both times were a huge headache. The last claim was for heating and air. They had fixed things in the past where I trusted them to tell me the truth with what was going on, but this time it was a larger claim and I got a phone call saying that I would be responsible for so much money out of my pocket before they could process it. I asked if I could see what they found and what they were recommending because I wanted to get a second opinion, as that was not what they stated when they came out, and never would they release the vendor's findings.
Then Home Warranty went back on what they were saying and said there was a huge misunderstanding. It's like when we were requesting documentation of what they were saying and they weren't able to provide that. No one would tell me anything. Finally, we said we're going to call a vendor or a person that we trust, and Home Warranty only gave us about a third of what the whole project costs, even though our vendor gave them plenty of documentation. That money came out quickly only because my husband and I called several times and we weren't very nice when we were expressing our dissatisfaction with how things were getting processed.
We also had a roof leak before and when we filed a claim, Home Warranty would only convert about $500, but it was $3000. They said it wasn't covered under the warranty even though our roofer gave them plenty of documentation. And we also had an insurance adjuster come out, but Home Warranty still only covered about a third of what the cost was. Home Warranty is not always difficult to deal with, but two over the four issues we've had has been incredibly difficult. So going forward, we will probably just have our own person come out and if it's something we have to file, then we will just end up paying the difference because we know we're getting honest good work.

HWA turns down the water valve saying it is in the exclusions in the contract. After several calls and awaiting a callback that has not come yet we still are awaiting resolution. The exclusion they site is the exclusion of "water lines and valves to the ice maker". Clearly the valve referred to in the exclusions in on the inlet line at the external water line, which is understandable. The valve I need replacing is an integral component of the ice maker. I seem to have a problem getting the reps. to understand this. So far still awaiting a callback from a supervisor. This have been going on now for about 12 days. No progress.

This is a complete waste of money. The sales person will sell you the policy telling you that items will be covered, however when you get to an actual claim, they will deny or it will end up costing you big time. My first claim was for my air conditioner coil. It needed replacing, however they would not claim the gas that needed to be used to get the system working again, the disposal of the replaced unit and a few other items. It cost me over $600 in extras and when talking with the technician, he said that his quote to the insurance company was only around $750.
The second claim was for my polaris pump for the pool which I specifically requested and paid extra premium for, but after I filed the claim and paid the technician $75 for a service call, they told me that it wasn't covered and that they were sorry that I was told that on the sales call even after they listened to the recorded conversation but I should have read the contract. This company is not interested in fixing problems, just collecting premiums. And this is evident by all the other complaints and reviews on this site. I wish I had have read before I signed up! Home Warranty of America sometimes take awhile getting back to us and we have to keep calling them, but it hasn't kept us from renewing. We've renewed with them four different times, and had them in our old house for a number of years as well. We have used them a few times. The last claim I made was for my garbage disposal which had to be replaced. It took a few days for them to get back to me to set up an appointment as my schedule's pretty limited and I had to do things on a Monday, so all in all, it took three weeks. But once they got back to me, they were pretty punctual and got the problem resolved quickly. However, they said their replacement garbage disposal was of really good quality and was very comparable to the one that I had, but it wasn't. It's nothing like the one I had before and I'm not thrilled with it at all. In that respect, I wasn't happy, but with the other few claims that I had with them, I was.

When I bought my house, Home Warranty of America was recommended. I was considering another warranty but I assumed that Home Warranty had a history there. I decided to stay with them because I talked with the owner and he said everything worked out fine for him. One of the interactions I had with the company was when I had received a bill for the amount that I was to pay. I called to validate that that was the amount because I had gotten an email as well. Their rep checked and said somebody issued the wrong payment to me and I needed to pay more. I questioned that as I wanted to pay the bill that I was billed. I didn't think that I should pay if it was issued wrong.
They may have changed the bill as a result of the service calls I made. It was for when my garbage disposal went out and also I was concerned about my ice maker. They came out and it was a good thing that I only had to pay one time instead of the two calls. But if I hadn't called Home Warranty of America, I would end up not paying the amount that was more. I was not happy about that because I had no prior knowledge. But rather than arguing with the rep on the phone, I figured I was going to pay the bill and I'll think about it when I renew again.
Other than that, I was pleased with the service I got from the repair person who came out. He handled everything and he checked to make sure that everything was working before he left. I missed some of what he said so when we had a problem later, I called back to say the garbage disposal wasn't working. He said it was and gave me instructions. He told me to press the button underneath and it should come on which it did. I thanked him for that and I appreciated having to do it efficiently that way rather than having to schedule another visit.

Home Warranty of America was the original warranty on the house when we got it through my Realtor. My dad owns the house and I'm renting it from him. Signing up for the service was easy since it was all done for me. On my first experience with HWA, I had a plumbing issue. I wasn't sure if the person who came out to check out my problem was sent over from the company because she came in an unmarked white van and didn't have anything stating that she was sent over by HWA. It is a little creepy and the lady was by herself.
And then my next experience was with my air conditioning unit. It was a really hot summer and it took almost a month for them to get a vendor out to finally fix my air conditioning unit problem. Also, it took three different vendors to get it done. I had an incident where I needed more coolant added to my AC, and I called and placed the service call. They said that they called the vendor but I never got a call back from a vendor. Eventually, I had one of my girlfriend's buddies take a look at it and fix it for me because I kept trying to call the vendor that they said was going to call me and I never got a response back. I've had operators who are very helpful on the phone and understand my plight, but I've had others who have not seem to care. In addition, getting in contact with a vendor is a struggle.

The second time I had a problem with my garage door and they sent me an idiot out there, and he came three times. He was trying to rip off the warranty company when it came to our garage door. I told Home Warranty, "Don't send this idiot back. I need the garage door fixed. Send me somebody who can fix the damn garage door," and they did. The next guy they sent out fixed my garage door in 45 minutes. I would recommend Home Warranty. However, they need to widen their coverage. They should look at other things that people use and have to deal with in their homes, such as fences. That can help out the homeowners, in addition to making a better brand. I would recommend them.

The previous owners of the house had Home Warranty of America so I continued it. It was an easy process to re-apply. Their reps were helpful and courteous. Then I submitted a claim and I was not pleased with the way it went. We called them before the holidays and we couldn't get any response. I went ahead myself and fixed the problem but then I wasn't reimbursed all of the money. They told me that I didn't call the right number and if I had called that number, they would have responded. I had all the bills yet they just reimbursed me a fraction of the money.

We've used Home Warranty of America for several broken things here in the house. When the elements in the water heater were broken, they fixed that. Then when we had some problems with the dishwasher, they came out here but they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and I couldn't get the stupid thing to work. It happened over and over again, and one day, it just fixed itself which was just really weird. Then the box to the furnace had gone on and when we turned the temperature up or down, it wouldn't stop. It would go down but it wouldn't go back up, right when the weather was changing so it got really cold in here. Something was broken inside, so they put a new part. All the people who came were really good. They fixed everything that was supposed to be fixed.

Home Warranty of America really works for me. I am happy being with them. My warranty was given to me by my realtor as a present for buying the house. I made four claims last year and the repairs have been perfect. They did anything I asked for. For example, I ask for a vendor and within minutes they'd find me a vendor and set me up an appointment, then everything got fixed. However I think their deductible went up. It was annoying, but still has a better price than other companies. I would love options for lower deductibles even if that meant paying a higher premium. Like right now, we're at a $100 deductible and I think when we bought it we were $75 deductible. If there was a $50 deductible option, I'd be willing to pay the $12 more a year in my premium, based on if I've had two or three good years in a row where I don't file a bunch of claims. I want that option.

I previously had Fidelity National Home Warranty on my home and then I was introduced to Deb, the rep at the time for Home Warranty of America, and I decided to switch over. Signing up was very easy to do either online or over the phone. Submitting a claim is also a very easy process. I placed the claim over the phone and they emailed me the confirmation receipt of the claim. I love the fact that they email confirmations and information, make follow-ups, request surveys and seem to care about my opinion. The contractor showed up when they were supposed to and the issues I had have been resolved. So I'm very happy.

The realtor suggested getting Home Warranty of America when we bought the house and the sellers paid for the first year. We renewed it on the second year and the renewal was an easy process. The process of submitting a claim was smooth. We just finished doing one on our washing machine but the installer had to come out three times. He installed the parts and it failed so he came back out and said he had to order a new part. He scheduled for a Friday. We got the part on Thursday and called to tell him the part was in but they said that he has no openings on Friday and it’s gonna have to be the next Friday. He came back the next week to install the part and it wasn’t working right so we called him right back directly and it took him another week to come out. So we were out a whole month on this washing machine and I felt we were back in college going to the laundromat. But the machine is working now.

I've been dealing with Home Warranty of America for about 10 years. The sales reps were courteous but the vendors that come out were a little difficult sometimes. When they come out to service, it's not the part that's defective, it's the part that's connected to the part. But usually HWA straightens that out with the vendor. Their customer service is great but sometimes they have to work with the vendor a little bit better. I recommend them to people. When my mom and my sisters sold their houses, I had them installing Home Warranty.

We didn't have any air conditioning and we live in Florida. So my husband called again and got another person that took care of it. So far the technicians they are sending are good. But we once had an electrician that didn't follow HWA protocol, and he threatened to put a lien on our house but HWA took care of him for us. On the other hand, there was another electrician that we got later with the air conditioning problem that was excellent. Mostly any of the technicians that we've had has been right on time and no problems. I would recommend them.

We had a home warranty with another company for many years. We had a lot of hassle with them because they claimed something wasn’t put in right. When we moved last year we were looking for something a little different. Home Warranty of America seemed to offer a lot more coverage than what we had. We got into a situation where there were a lot of things that suddenly broke right after we moved in. We had some problems with the fan on the condenser on one of our air conditioning units, and that took three different people to get the right person to fix it. It’s up on a roof and the second guy who came wasn’t warrantied to work up on the roof. But the last guy who came figured it out quickly and replaced it. They completely took care of us.
We've had several claims and I submit it online because when I go through the phone, I have to listen to all the ads that drive me nuts. But the response is very quick and they give me a number. If I don't hear from them right away, I can call them and they assign a person who handles the claim. During the three trips with the air conditioner, I went over the options for renewal because it seemed that we had a couple of things that we were going to pay for that we didn’t need that were covered by our insurance or our condo association. So I decided to drop some of the things and the rep was very good and walked me through that. All in all, I’ve been happy with HWA this last year. My experience with them has been very efficient and they have a really good follow-up.

Our realtor included Home Warranty of America when we purchased our home and they have been awesome. The realtor handled the sign up process and it was the greatest experience ever. In the first year of us being in our home we had the evaporator coils go out in our air conditioning unit and we didn’t have a technician in our area that did the Home Warranty side of it, so we ended up having to be reimbursed for it. So I've seen the bad side of Home Warranty as well as being able to use one of their vendors and both experiences were very positive. We have renewed and it was easy as it can be. We just send in a check and life is good. HWA saved me $1500 in the first year so that means I'll at least keep them around for three years.

I filed a claim a year ago for my water heater and HWA took care of it. But I wasn't happy on another claim for my toilet. I called them and described what was wrong with the toilet. It was not leaking so I thought there was no need to send a man out. But they sent a guy out and I was told by the guy the same thing what I told HWA. I sort of blew a gasket when they said they don’t handle the cosmetic or preventative measure and to verify if it was leaking. I thought it was diligent to do something about the toilet before something worse happened. I complained and they said that I said it was leaking. I challenged them to look at any recording and find where I said it was leaking because I more than once said it wasn't otherwise, I couldn’t have waited days for a man to come out if I actually had water. You expect to spend money to have somebody to come look, but to just repeat back what I said just hit me wrong.
I thought the situation could’ve been handled on the phone better and saved us both the trouble of a serviceman and a fee if it's not covered. It took HWA a few days but they handled my complaint very nicely and reimbursed me. I did write them a thank you note for the check and because at least they did the right thing. I got to give them credit for that, but I had to do battle for it and some phone calls. I wished I hadn't renewed at that time because I thought it was a waste of being home for a man to come and tell me things that could’ve been revealed on the phone fairly easily.

When we bought our house, it was part of the agreement the homeowner will buy HWA home warranty for a year for us. When I tried to extend it, it was horrible because I didn’t get what I thought I was getting. They said that the package I had didn’t cover the washer and dryer. I called a couple of weeks before I renewed and I was told I have to upgrade to another package plan to get the washer covered. I wanted their service just so I'd pay co-pay so when I renewed I told the rep that I wanted to get the coverage that will cover the refrigerator, washer, and dryer. I have the Gold package, which was the basic minimum, and the rep I spoke to that time told me that if I add on the GreenPlus for appliances then it will get me an Energy Star appliance and so I told her it was fine with me.
However, the rep just kept my plan that was on there and then added the new GreenPlus but didn't add on the washer and dryer in the coverage. So when I called to report that we had a problem with our washer, the lady I talked to said that the plan I had does not cover it. That ruined it for everything and so I got my washer fixed at my expense. Hence, I cancelled them because there's no point of paying something that I'm gonna have to end up paying for the stuff I wanted covered anyway.

Home Warranty of America was one of the companies offered when we closed on our house. Signing up and eventually submitting a claim were easy to do. We usually called in and their representatives were helpful, quick, and responsive 99% of the time. I've had to have a hot water tank and a garbage disposal replaced. However, one of our repairs has been awful and we've had to go through two rounds with two different suppliers.
We had a heater go down this time last year and it took a month to get the heater installed. I had no heater from the middle of December to the middle of January. Luckily, I had a gas fireplace that kept us warm. Then when we got it installed we found an issue with the thermostat and I called out my regular people that were local that just do change filters twice year. They said the unit wasn't level, so we tried for three weeks to get the guy to come back but he never did.
We didn't have any more problems with the thermostat so we thought everything was okay. Then over the summer because the unit wasn't installed level we had water dripping until it blew up in August and we had a massive waterfall. So I called HWA, but the guy who did the installation wasn't working for them anymore. In October I called my local people because I said I could get someone from them faster. They came on a Monday and I spent two hours with the guy. I was an assistant and my husband was out of town. He refused to do the work and then my husband was livid when the work didn't go very well. HWA got someone else out because my husband was gone and I didn't want to deal with it. That guy came out and he and my husband went through it and at that point we felt it had fixed enough and it was cooling off. But we couldn't tell so had to wait until next spring and make sure it was not dripping anymore.
Dealing with HWA has sometimes been hard because I know they contract with people and that's part of the deal. But my husband was born in our town and his dad built homes for 20 years so we have a lot of ties with local contractors and service people and HWA does not give the convenience in wanting to let us use who we know. They want to do who they want to use. Luckily we were familiar with the company of the last person they sent out, the second person for the heat and air guy, so it worked out okay.

Laura, thanks for your feedback. We hope that next time should you need us that the experience will be a better one than the last one was. Thank you for making us aware of the most recent experience. Have a good day, -Jane

My experience with Home Warranty of America has been fine so far. Last year, I kept having a leak under the sink and a plumber from a company kept coming and never fixed the problem. He said there's a part needed. And then I waited a month and never heard from them so I called the company and they got another plumber out who came out and fixed it that same day. The person that they had before on our list was really disappointing. I told HWA to make sure that they never send that plumber out to me again. Every time they came out to visit, I had to pay $100, so I spent $500 before I got the problem straightened out. It was never fixed so, in that instance, the company should look at that. If they don’t fix it the first time, then it should still be under that company’s responsibility. Also, I had a window blow out from a storm but HWA doesn’t cover it. Other than that, I had a couple of plumbing problems and they addressed those.

Vikki, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience with one of the plumbers we originally sent out. Customer feedback is very important to us so please message us if you would like to discuss any concerns further. Thanks! -Melinda

Every time I've called, they are easy to deal with. I've had a couple of issues with some vendors that came out, like for the air conditioning. The guy said that it was broken and there was something wrong with it. He said it was low on Freon so there was leak. He wasn't even going to fill it up. When I got home, I was frustrated and called the warranty place and talked to them and told them what happened. They had a technician out on the very next day to come look at it, give us a second opinion and fill it up with Freon refrigerant to get us back on track through the hot summer. I compared and contrasted two warranty providers and HWA's website and the information provided regarding their features and coverage were more transparent. But of course, the fine print of what is not included is truly in the fine print. I have submitted a claim with HWA a couple of times. The first process was for a small item and the provider who came out did fine.
The second time was for a bigger item which was the heater in the basement. I got the higher end coverage so it was supposed to provide a new heater that had 90 or 95% efficiency. The provider marked it up in such a way that $2,000 or so was considered not covered. I thought it was gonna be a $5,000-$6,000 piece of equipment and I was getting a good value for it here but I was gonna have to conveniently pay $2000 out of pocket. When I called customer service, they said it was standard. I said I’d like to have somebody else take a look at it but they said they don't do that and customers just get one quote. So I pushed and they gave me two other names but they said if I call other people up, I have to pay the $100 visit fee. I said it's fine.
But this doesn’t seem to be a competitive bidding process and this person who came out may very well believe that he’s gonna get it and HWA is going to push the cost onto the provider and the provider will definitely push the cost on to me. So being the provider for HWA, the overall cost that they’re going to charge will be very different. They also gave me a scale and told me it would be non-covered out of pocket $2,000 if I go with the 90% efficiency which is I have coverage for. But if I decide to go to an 80% efficiency heater, then my out of pocket would only be $1,000. That also doesn’t make any sense because the nature of the out of pocket is exactly the same. They’re just incentivizing me to go with a cheaper brand.

I paid the $65 copay and everything got handled easily and quickly. They were amazing that's why I renewed.
It was super easy re-signing up for the service. I made the phone call and they gave me a price, options for payment, and I made my choice. It was that simple. I submitted four claims in early 2016. I made the phone call, described the issue and they wrote the claim while I was on the phone. They sent me confirmation email with the service that was going to come out and everything was fixed the next day. I did not have to call anyone back. They're professional, adequate, and worth it.
