I have been with Home Warranty of America for six years and I usually have had a good experience when filing a claim online. My husband hasn't had any complaints about their sales reps and working with their contractors have been positive. The spring on our garage door broke. The contractors usually come with a day or two, and this time they came within 24 hours. Plus, they fixed it in 15 minutes.
We've had one bad episode with Home Warranty of America several years ago. They sent out someone to handle an electrical issue but then wouldn't pay the claim. It wasn't a ton of money, just $60, but it was frustrating. We just paid since we were getting harassed by the company that did the work. It seems the way we described the problem made it seem like it was covered, but when they came and checked, it turned out that it wasn't. We paid our deductible to the contractor, then a month or two later, we got a phone call from them saying that Home Warranty had denied their payment even after submitting it several times. They asked us to pay it, so we did. They were kind of messy about it. Otherwise, we've been satisfied. We've had several claims over the years and everything's gone smoothly.

Good Afternoon Jessica,
We appreciate you taking the time to provide your personal experience with us. We are working diligently to improve processes within our company to ensure that we have consistently great customer satisfaction. Regarding coverage, once a claim is submitted, a technician will come out to officially diagnosis the problem. The coverage will be based on the technician's diagnosis, recommended solution and the contract terms. Should there be any additional out of pocket expenses such as modifications or items not covered by the warranty, this will be discussed with you prior to any repairs or replacements. Unfortunately, not all claims can be (completely) covered per the contract's exclusions, and I apologize if these exclusions were not thoroughly explained to you previously. HWA does warranty 30 days on labor and 90 days on parts. If you would like further clarification about your contract's terms, or if you have other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our live chat agents at hwahomewarranty.com and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you and have an amazing day!

Home Warranty of America was a recommendation from our realtor and I have renewed twice with them. We had an AC problem and a plumbing problem, and it was easy filing the claim. I called them up. I do stuff on the computer, but sometimes I like talking to a person to explain exactly what's wrong. Home Warranty of America is easy to get a hold of and they have a quick response time. The technicians they send out are good. They fix the problem the first time. I haven’t had any bad experiences.

I've submitted claims to Home Warranty of America online, and I got my air conditioner fixed a lot quicker than people told me it would happen. I was told it would take a while to get it done, and that they wouldn't fix it all the way. But it was done a lot quicker, and I was completely satisfied with it. The contractor was really amazing. He was very thorough with his job. He did his job very well and even came back to make sure that it was done correctly. Since the actual repair, everything has been fine. I haven't had any other issues. Overall, everything went a lot smoother than what other people have told me that they've experienced with a warranty company. Also, I just know that whenever I needed the warranty, it works for me and I hope it's going to be that way if I have to use Home Warranty of America again.

The realty company that sold the house to me also bought a contract from Home Warranty of America for me as a present. So far, the representatives there have been good when I submit a claim over the phone. They are courteous and I get results quick. The technicians they sent have been pretty good as well. When I've had bad ones, they change them. Overall, whenever I called in a claim and I needed something, Home Warranty of America reacted promptly and did a good job of repairing it.

We are in our third year with Home Warranty of America and they've been really good to us. I've renewed a couple of times and it's easy doing it. It's also easy to submit a claim. My latest was about a repair that's needed for the air conditioner. There's no wait time when I called and their people were very helpful. On the other hand, there are a lot of things that are not covered which is probably due to the plan I had chosen. Other than that, they are a lifesaver and I'd recommend them.

My dishwasher stopped working about a month ago so I called in and told the customer service rep what I believed the problem was. It was a pleasant conversation and she told me that it would be repaired or replaced promptly. It took a week for the service guy to come out to my house, unfortunately long but acceptable. When he shows up I foolishly expected that he would bring the part that I told him was broken... He didn't, he has to order it. Two weeks later - 3 weeks since the initial call - we schedule a second visit when he will reinstall it. I requested that he comes in earlier, but it was the earliest he could come. OK, things happen, I understand. By the day he is supposed to come by my sink is full of dishes patiently waiting the wonderful technologies we have living in the great US of A.
Serviceman calls and says the new replacement part is broken. He will have to return it and get a new one. At this point I am tired of waiting so I call customer service again. Once again decent conversation, she calls the service provider and he gives her a different story - they sent the wrong one. Doesn't matter I just want a working dishwasher. At this point she says she will email her supervisor who is currently at lunch about possibly refunding the $100 service call fee due to poor service and I should get a call back soon. OK. Thanks.
Monday morning at 6:30am I get a couple texts from the service technician asking when we can set up the next visit. Thanks for the wake-up call friend. I get back to him and we set up a time on Tuesday. Tues around noon I decide to call in to see what is going on with the supervisor that was supposed to call me back 5 days ago (3 working). Pleasant conversation but doesn't really go anywhere because supervisor is at lunch, says she will send an email to her supervisor as well about refunding the $100 service fee.
A couple hours later I get a text from my wife saying the dishwasher is not fixed. I asked what it was and she told me "I was literally in the middle of a conversation when he said 'It's not the motor it's got to be the logic board. I'll have to come back'". He couldn't wait until she got off the phone to explain what was going on before he left. I am not even certain this guy knows what is wrong with the machine. You guessed it, I call back up customer service. The conversation tone is becoming less cordial, but still fine. Supervisor is at lunch so I can't talk to him, It's ~4pmCT. Seriously? I can't get passed along to anyone else in any supervisory role. She agrees that this is becoming a problem and suggests it may be possible to replace the unit and submits a request for me. OK, thank you.
The next day I get a call before 8am that I missed (in the shower). I get left a voicemail from Robert saying that, "We understand this is a problem." (Yay! Thank you! First sign of something good!). He can offer us some kind of buy out and that I should call back. So yes, I call back in and I get the worst service rep possible. Everything is my fault. I cannot speak to supervisor because supervisor already called and I missed my chance. I cannot speak to anyone else.My choice is to take a money for parts and labor -no replacement of dishwasher is on the table, and everything else will be out of contract OR wait until the service tech can order the part, and schedule a visit. God only knows if this will be another couple weeks... So I ask how much I will get for the buyout and for some reason they don't know.
They will have to submit a request. What do you mean? How do you not know? Why tell me I have an option and but not know what the options are? OK, so this brings me up to present. I am at one month since calling HWA. No dishwasher. No idea when I will get one. I am guessing not, but just maybe a supervisor will see this during their lunch break. If I don't get some resolution soon I will be posting my story all over home buying forums and social media. HWA customer service is nonexistent. The technicians they work with are slow and incompetent. No one really cares about you there. Supervisors have curious timing for their lunch breaks and beyond that there is NO ESCALATION policy. If you are a homebuyer ask the seller to give you cash for the price of the warranty from HWA.

I went online to sign up with Home Warranty of America. It was self-explanatory and I stepped right through it. I called in a claim and the rep I talked to was great and helpful. Once I spoke to them and looked at our policy, I saw that I could go online to submit a claim. So I went online and submitted the information on the equipment that had failed. The info included part numbers and model numbers. The website was very easy to use and I had no problems at all. The contractor who came was exemplary. He called beforehand, came out, repaired the item and left. Home Warranty of America is doing a fine job for us and I'd recommend them.

Home Warranty of America was already a program that the previous owner of our house had. I re-signed up with them and the sales rep was very helpful. A few years ago, our refrigerator had gone out, and the freezer defrosted without us realizing. So, I called HWA and submitted a claim. However, the first person that they had was apparently out of business, so they never responded back to my phone calls. It took HWA about a day and a half to send someone out. But once I had a repairman that could come out to my house, my refrigerator was fixed right away and it stayed fixed.

We owned a home and then several condos that were rental properties and I covered everything with HWA. On the condos, I had a different home warranty company before. I did not like it and switched them over to HWA. I really liked HWA. They offered a lot more and they did very well. The reps that worked with us was really good. They came over and went through everything. I could also call in at any time and they would even call in a claim for me.
When submitting claims, I would call them and they'd email me back after I've talked to them about the specifics of what company is coming. I had several claims, especially for the condos where they had to replace a refrigerator, fix a dishwasher which they finally replaced and I had some plumbing issues that they fixed, too. In the house, we had an air conditioning issue that had to be replaced. I only put $300 up and the rest was all covered. That saved me $2,000.
Mostly, the vendors that they've sent out have been pretty good. We had little problems with the air conditioner in the house we're in now and they sent out vendors that I had to really get involved with. The money they charged was not what they had told us but HWA interceded and fixed the problem. We live almost 58 miles out of Houston. Sometimes, HWA can't find one that's in the Conroe or Montgomery area and they have to come out from the Spring or the Houston area.
The only issue I've had with them was my Kenmore standalone ice-maker. It was out of warranty. Everbody they sent, including SEARS, kept trying to fix it. Sometimes, they'd get it working and then after a couple of weeks, it would quit again. So, it was not really working correctly. When I called and talked to HWA about it, they said that they got to send somebody in. I got tired of fighting SEARS. I kept saying that it was not working and they need to fix it or replace it. HWA dropped it, too. It went on for two years and I simply gave up. It was beyond fixable and they never replaced it. I should have kept complaining to HWA. I still don't have an ice-maker that works. Other than that, everything else was handled pretty well. And for the most part, I had an outstanding service from HWA.

Good Afternoon Lynda,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this great review! We are proud to be your trusted home warranty provider and to give you a little peace of mind when it comes to your repair needs.
Regarding your concern about repair vs a replacement, HWA will only offer a replacement, if the item is no longer repairable or if the repair cost exceeds the replacement cost. Home Warranty of America was included in my first year of my mortgage from the previous owners. They said it was expiring and asked if I want to re-sign up, so I extended it in the last couple of years. When they were re-signing the business, they got back to me and were proactive about reaching out. But when I had to call to get a claim, it was somewhat challenging and not as easy as it should be since it's an insurance company.
Last year, I had my pool heater incinerated from the inside out. I called them and they connected me with a local pool company and I worked everything out through them. I paid them the visitation fee of $100, and then they managed everything through the corporate office. For the most part, it was handled in a timely manner. It was a really good experience. But when I used them later for a different service, it was probably the worst I've ever had. They closed my pool for the winter last year and didn’t put any chemicals in it and didn’t drain my chlorinator, so that broke. When I opened my pool this year, it looked like the green lagoon as there were so much algae. When the water froze, the thing inside of the plastic busted. I reached out to the manager and the owner, but got no response. I had a bunch of photos as evidence, yet they didn’t even acknowledge my request.
My one gripe about Home Warranty of America would be that they put me in contact with one vendor and didn’t even give me an option to choose someone else. They need to provide multiple options when it comes to service providers. Also they need to find a better pool supply company in the area that could service me because the company they sent out was terrible and I've seen several really bad reviews about them online. But Home Warranty of America is pretty straightforward and I have their home warranty because when my things break, it's a good coverage so I'd probably continue to use it.

We have a tenant living in our property and the tenant said that the garbage disposal was not working. We filed a claim with HWA and they sent Flow Go Plumbing to repair it. I file claims on properties all the time and depending on who the home warranty is, it can be an extensive process. With HWA, it was not difficult at all. I called the Home Warranty number then they sent me to the claims department and took care of my claim in five minutes. Their reps were really professional. They were nice, friendly, and willing to help. They sent a work order to the plumber and they put the tenant's information in there for the plumber to call. Then the plumber was advised to call the tenant before they go to the place and the garbage disposal system's been working fine since the repair.

The house originally came with Home Warranty of America and it was a good plan. We're very satisfied. There were a few minor things where we filed a claim and we never have a problem calling. For replacements, we make a choice if we wanted an upgrade up and then we just add the money. Yet it took almost two weeks in getting the parts of the dryer one time. Also, we will never ever use Advanced Appliance again. They're horrific and the guy had to come back 12 times for different things. The guy who kept coming is about 90 years old and was absolutely guessing. He fixes a part but it breaks the next day then we would wait for him to come back. It was a good month before the dryer actually got fixed because it was a misdiagnosis for every single time.
Then, our microwave broke and they sent him out again. I thought that maybe he knew microwaves better but it did not work either. We also had to help him. My son helped him carry out a microwave and also asked my son to hold the dryer pieces together. My son was 12 years old that time and I thought what if my son wasn’t there. I didn’t have much confidence. By the time we were done with him, HWA gave up on it and told us that they're going to get us a new microwave. And also from that time on, I make it clear and made sure ahead of time to say that I do not want the person or the company.
Home Warranty is doing their job and I can’t blame them for the vendor, but they listened to us about the vendor. When they said they wanted to send Advanced Appliance out, we requested that they send somebody from Sears out because that’s also in the plan. So that’s what they’ve been doing from the few times that we actually needed it. Sears came out six months ago and the repair had been perfect. Overall, Home Warranty of America’s customer service is really good. Claims are fine that everything gets fixed that’s why we keep renewing and we’ve had them for six years.

Being with Home Warranty of America has been a good experience. When we moved into our house 15 years ago, it already had a home warranty. Every year, we've renewed with one company or another because it has always saved us money in the long run. My husband signed-up online. He just entered our information and logged in. It's fairly uncomplicated. He handles the claims as well, and he hasn't complained about Home Warranty of America.
He filed a claim for our air conditioning this summer. We couldn't find an available air conditioning serviceman until September. So we had a hot summer. It wasn't the warranty company's fault though. We were on vacation and didn't call promptly. Plus, we got a good contractor when he got here. We liked him. He knew what he was doing and has been in the business for 35 years. He also worked on our neighbor's AC and knew our neighborhood. Also there was a guy that had come out who told us we needed to buy a new AC for about $7,000 but our guy was able to fix it instead of making us pay thousands of dollars for a new one. We're very glad for that.

One of my friends who's a real estate agent referred to me Home Warranty of America. The rates were comparable but even after I purchased the Gold package, there are a few pieces of information that are not known until you visit. We presume that it is there but the fine prints are so fine that nobody will use it. My garage spring got broken and submitting a claim was comparatively easy. I did it over the phone and they find out the cause quick. Based on the issues, they come back and tell me whether it has been covered or not.
But even after you submit a claim at one point, you still have to follow up with the actual service provider who's going to take care of the service. Home Warranty is charging money for this when they should have taken care of this process, not to be kept to the customers again. In comparison, for the home where I'm living, I will sign up a contract with Michael’s Home Services. Their service is much better. When you call, they arrange for the vendor and they send the vendor to your place in the appointed time slot. There is not even a service fee charge for that and I like that process better than this.

I have HWA in two houses and I have them for six years now. Their reps are usually helpful and friendly on the phone when I call. I have roof insurance on one of the houses and its roof had to be repaired about two years ago. It’s a 1,600 square foot house but it’s all compacted and there’s not a whole lot of roof. When I filed a claim, HWA would pay nothing for it. I ended up having to pay $3,000 out of pocket, after insurance. Also, whenever the air conditioner needs Freon, they would pay me two squirts and I have to pay the balance. They don’t pay very much when I have a leak. I had to pay twice last year because their people couldn't put anymore as it would have been over their allotted amount.

This is our first home purchase but we had lived with other people who had their own homes. We had seen them have to be out-of-pocket for big appliances and stuff like that. And so, we knew that it would be smarter to have a warranty instead of having to do it that way. We got signed up for Home Warranty of America when we did our closing. There’s a little bit of extra money that we had over what the sellers were going to use. And so, our real estate agent used that to get the warranty for us. The real estate agent recommended Home Warranty of America so we just went with her recommendations, and for the first year, it was free. We actually used the service once that year and I really liked them that’s why I decided to renew with them recently. For the first time, it stated everything for us and so at closing, we just got all the information and we really didn’t have to do anything.
And then, renewing was really easy. I just went in to our account and just clicked a few buttons and told them that I wanted everything the same. It was really easy since we already had access. I didn’t even have to have any interaction, which was actually awesome. I love being able to just re-order it online. When we did the service, our air conditioner stopped working and then we were able to reset the fuse but it kept blowing the fuse and it made a terrible noise when it was started up. I submitted a report and then someone called me and they said that someone would contact me within the next day but the repairman actually had contacted me in just a couple of hours. And so, we had them come out to look at it and they were able to repair it and add an extra thing on to make the life of it last a little bit longer.
It’s been great. That was in the middle of August and we haven’t had any trouble with the air conditioning since then. We’re in Texas so air conditioning is a must. I’m really satisfied with it so far. I was really happy with how easy it was to do everything online and also how quick and easy it was for the repair that we had. That’s the reason why we renewed it instead of trying to find a different company. They’re very efficient and easy, and worth the cost. I'd definitely recommend them.

I heard Home Warranty of America was good and I wanted to check them out. The home warranty was in the home when we were buying it and it will be a year since we’ve had them. I’ve signed up for another year with them. I speak to a representative when filing a claim and I enjoy talking to a person. I don’t like doing business over the internet since I had all my identification stolen once and I don't ever want to go to that again. The reps are wonderful and I like them.
At first, I called them for my stove top and it took them a little while to do that and I was very upset with them. It shouldn't take anybody more than a week to fix anything. But then, they came out and fix it and I felt that everybody needs a second chance. The technicians did what they had to do. I used Home Warranty again for my dryer and they came right out. They called me instantly and it worked. The tech was really great and explained things and I was really happy about that. Now I know they can do it and that everybody just had a bad day. It was the contractor that I was really upset with and not Home Warranty of America. I approve of Home Warranty’s service. They help me out and contact me to make sure everything’s okay. I’m going to give them a chance this year to see if we're going to stay forever.

We had three different companies sent out by Home Warranty of America for our air conditioning. Morgan Air was the first company and I would let somebody set them on fire. They are miserable and dishonest. I'm still paying off $8,000 for an all-new ductwork when I called for a service call. Morgan Air came out to the house but they didn't send somebody out to diagnose the problem. Instead, they sent out a salesperson. The guy they sent told me that he found black mold and the only way to eradicate it is to have the entire ductwork pulled out because it's not large enough for the air-conditioning unit. Supposedly, he took pictures of this so we asked him to send them. He said his tablet is locked up so he'll send it when he gets home.
I ended up having to get on the phone with his manager and had a very unpleasant, foul, late call with them. When he finally got the salesman on the phone, around in circles we went. He flat out lied and told his manager that he deleted the pictures. Gary, the manager, told him how to recover them and to send them. But still, he never did it. He lied through his teeth. He said he never said anything about black mold during the six hours he was here. At some point, something should have clicked, but all I'm thinking is I've got a brand-new mortgage and I'm being told I have black mold. It was an absolute mess. It took two weeks after he left to get the final report. And what he told me in person and what he put on the paperwork were two opposite things.
I made Home Warranty of America aware of it and that was the end of it. I was so disgusted so I didn't pursue them. However, the problem didn't stop with Morgan Air and the $8,000 worth of ductwork that I paid for. I called Home Warranty again and they sent out a nice gentleman from Red Carpet. This very smart and honest man told me that Carrier air conditioning units can only be serviced by people who are trained in their equipment. He came to the house, and instead of telling the problem, he just flat out said that he won't be able to help me because he is not trained to do this kind of work.
And so Home Warranty sent us Brian from Hudson Air and he has been an absolute godsend to us. I can't praise that man enough or his company. They're outstanding. He came out and was here for 20 minutes and was able to fix it. He also explained that if I witness discoloration in my air conditioning unit and I suspect that it could be mold, I should tell Home Warranty so they could hire somebody who is certified to make that announcement or diagnosis. All in all, even though I ended up having to cough up $100 for that visit from somebody who wasn't qualified to work on air conditioning units, I'm still very lucky to have Home Warranty of America.

We wanted to purchase a house with a warranty on it. The Home Warranty of America Diamond Package was affordable and it covered everything we would need. We wanted to be able to back ourselves up if anything big happens because we bought our home at a very low cost and we didn’t get it inspected from the get-go. We knew there was a potential of things being broken or not functioning properly. When we submitted a claim with Home Warranty of America, the rep was friendly and professional. A gentleman showed up within three days and he went into detail to tell my husband what was wrong with the AC unit and repaired it for the summer.

I previously used a different company at our other house but my real estate agent suggested Home Warranty of America. I liked it, so we went with it. I never had any problems in terms of the customer service part of my claims. Their reps were always friendly and helpful, and got me taken care of in terms of getting the service call set. I had plumbing and AC issues at other times and Home Warranty of America did just fine with those. But this issue with my clogged main line that was just outside the wall of my foundation, I ended up paying $3,000 to have it fixed. Whereas, if it has been just inside the wall, it would have been covered. It's just the little stuff that always gets me. And probably it isn’t specific to Home Warranty of America, it's the same case with all these kinds of companies, the devil is in the details. What isn't covered is in the fine print.

It's good to know that things can get fixed or replaced with just paying an amount to Home Warranty of America. However, there was one time HWA didn’t send anybody to fix the air conditioning unit for four days in the heat and there were children in the house in a 95-degree weather. Their reps on the phone were very polite like stuff weren't happening. It took at least four days for their man to come out and I was worried that he wasn’t going to properly fix it because something should have been replaced. But it's still working so he did all right with it. HWA paid us for finally having to call someone else and it took a few weeks to get the reimbursement checks.
Also, we didn’t know who was coming out so we were worried about what type of people they're hiring to do the work. It's my son’s house that I have this warranty on so that is a problem. Sometimes I wonder if they hire the best people for the work. Otherwise, we've had a good experience with HWA. Submitting the claim was very easy and their reps were very nice and kind. We had a call once for the dishwasher and they came out and fixed it promptly. They gave us the number to call the first company that’s coming so we could push to get them out there.

Home Warranty of America was the home warranty provider that my real estate agent suggested when I bought the house. Submitting a claim to them is easy. What I haven't been completely thrilled with is they sometimes use people that I would not have used. It'd be nice if I could specify my own contractors. This house was a vacation house and I’ve got to go meet the contractors. They usually look at it and they have to come back, so I got to go meet them again. Sometimes, they have to come back about three times. The quality is okay, though. They're reasonable but not fantastic. And, the cost is not cheap but it's probably the cheapest thing they can find.

When we bought a condo, a friend of ours told us about Home Warranty of America and we figured we’d buy for a year. But then, when we found out we could renew it and their service was pretty good, we’ve just been keeping it up. We also looked at a few other companies online where they had ads, but Home Warranty seems to offer more services even though there was stuff we couldn’t use because were in a condo, not in a home. They still have quite a long list of things, like the year before, our stove wasn’t working right and they said it would cost more to repair the digital component. They told us to pick our stove within a certain price range and they delivered it and put it together for us.
When I needed to get through to Home Warranty and their lines were busy, I called one of the sales reps and said that I needed some plumbing, and then they took care of it and it was fine. I recommend them overall because when something major goes wrong, you know they’re going to come out and fix it and you don’t have to pay them that day. You basically pay the $100 and then, depending on what’s going on, you may not have to pay anything else. My only complaint is I wish it was a little less expensive.

I spoke briefly with the technician on the phone, mainly to give my credit card information to pay the service fee. It was a very brief experience and all's well with the service.

I purchased my home in Dec., 2016. The seller paid for the home warranty. I have called them on 4 occasions and no one follows-up, they sub-contract with companies from MD, and when you call the providers info they give you to service your claim, no one returns the call. I wrote to the company's corporate office, they assigned another sub-contractor and to again to no avail. Not even the corporate office stayed on top of the situation to ensure it was resolved. The service with this company hands down is pitiful. If you cannot service a particular area be clear and do not take people's money. I would NEVER use this company even if it was free. Save your money and do your HW and use someone else.

They wanted to raise my premium this year, though, but I told them that I'm probably not going to take it. They then came down on it to pretty much what I paid for last year. I had one claim filed in the last year and it was for an air condition repair. The rep was sort of helpful. Also, the tech was friendly and on time. He had to put some Freon in and that’s it. HWA is pretty much average, overall.

I've filed a couple of claims with the first being for my AC. It wasn't working so I had someone come out. They filed for a repair however I have to reach a certain payment threshold for the warranty to kick in, which is normal in all warranty places. Also certain things aren't covered. For example, when repairing the AC, recharging something wasn't covered. It's a hit or miss on all warranty places on whether or not AC things are refilled or covered. I filed my claims online and it was easy. Plus their reps are knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I've always been able to get a hold of someone and never had any problem.

My mother and my sister are real estate agents and they swear by Home Warranty of America, so they convinced me to buy it. I’m not thrilled with it, but I keep it because I’ve got appliances that are about to break. But every time one breaks, they come out and charge $50 and can’t fix it. The first time we tried to use them, they said it wasn't a covered appliance. The second time we tried to use it, they came out and said they couldn’t fix it and offered to buy out, which wouldn’t have paid for a new service. They’ve come out for my air condition unit and it takes weeks to get them out here. But once they came out on the air conditioning unit they told me the unit didn’t work properly because it was dirty. It’s ridiculous. So far, they have not replaced anything. But I’m not totally dissatisfied because I know they have taken care of things for my mother, sister or others.

Home Warranty of America was incorporated on the real estate purchase and the realtor's company covered the first year, and then we continued then after. They serve our needs so we keep renewing with them. Filing a claim with them was an easy process. It could be done online or in person. I prefer to do it in person so that if I need to get more details, I can do it in person. The reps asked me questions about what was wrong and when did it happen. We request for certain service providers since I have been burned in the past. One time someone came and diagnosed the issue incorrectly so getting the problem resolved was postponed. Not everybody goes through Home Warranty, so I often ask them who comes highly recommended.
The quality of service is usually good for what I paid. When things do go wrong and if it’s something covered under their policy, they take all the other costs which has saved us a lot of money. It's great when I pay a fee. However, we have high-end appliances and Home Warranty has a cost where I can pay a bit more for them. I didn't pay the high-end price for my high-end appliances. Initially, someone should have come out to look and see what we have and then make a recommendation about that but I learned it the hard way.
I have a stand-alone freezer and when the technician came, it wasn't working. He thought that it was the fan that had a problem, and so he fixed that. He made two visits to do the faucets but it went bad again after two months. So I asked for somebody qualified to do the brand that we have and they gave me a certain company. Since then, I have had to call them for that job.The freezer is a Sub-Zero and if they don’t have experience doing it, it can be very difficult. I wish the technician would say that they can't do it or that they don't know how to fix it since fixing things that are not broken costs us a lot of time.
The home is older now so some things such as the air conditioning, heater, dishwasher and dryer wear out after 20 years. In the case of the heater and the dryer, the technicians came from the same company and they were good. Other times, they just put a Band-Aid on there and that doesn’t solve the problem. It’s a lot of work if an appliance has a leak, whether it's inside the coil or the outside. The technicians do what they can but I usually have another problem after a year and a half. We've been with Home Warranty for a couple of years now and in the case of the Sub-Zero, it wasn't working right and the guy didn't think he could fix it. So Home Warranty said that they’ll give me a buy-out and the maximum I can get is $1,500 to $2,000. However, if I got the Sub-Zero in a bargain, it’s $10,000 and it can even run more than that.
I have a built-in cabinet for the freezer and I'll never get the same model of the freezer since it's 15 years old. It would cost me $22,000. The other option is to get rid of the freezer and then have a stand-alone refrigerator. I can get a freezer and refrigerator in one. But then, I would still have a huge hole in my wall or in my cabinet and still have to get the cabinet reworked. They should offer a higher rate for higher-end appliances such as GE, Thermador or Miele. They should also offer to replace the appliance if it's broken and then pay the cost. $10,000 is a lot but then, I'm paying a higher premium than other people. I would assume that there is money allotted for that or there should be if they want to keep their company. We’re now getting higher-end appliances and energy efficient appliances and these are going to cost more. They're not going to be at $1,500-$2,000 price anymore, which is what Home Warranty offered me.
I'm trying to get the freezer fixed and if I needed to get another freezer and Home Warranty approves, then I can’t pick another brand I want. It has to be within the same brand, size and description as the one I have. If I have a GE refrigerator and it needs to be replaced when something goes wrong, then the replacement should also be a GE that is comparable to the one I have. In this case, they would not replace a $10,000 freezer. It was so hard and took five visits for the technician to come and get this thing right, which I hope would stay that way.
These kinds of details need to be explained and Home Warranty should offer a better solution. A couple of years ago, I already paid for a high-end appliance so I wish that the buy-out is nowhere near where it would cost me to replace it and get one of the same value and the same brand, excluding the cabinetry work and extra work that is needed to be done. Nevertheless, we're still happy with Home Warranty of America.

The rep treated me nice but the problem I had was finding the company that would take their warranty. The experience has been satisfying but it could be improved. It would be a big help if they have more providers in rural areas or a list of providers that take their warranty. And if they wanted to be different from every other home warranty program and sell a lot more policies, then they should have a list of companies within a 20-mile radius that’ll support their warranty program. Because when people know that they pay for the home warranty every month since they're assured that the local guy takes the warranty as a co-pay, then they merchandise it for them.

I either call Home Warranty of America or go online and process a request for a claim. And the process was fairly easy. The sales reps I've worked with have always been very agreeable. When we have problems, I get emails most of the time. When something happens with the vendor bill, they may contact me and tell me they had a change of vendor. One time, I couldn't get a vendor out on time for an emergency, so we had negotiations with a local vendor to substitute. The last claim that we did, two of the vendors were a no-show. But we finally get a third vendor who made a very timely response.
The first time, I didn't like the contractor. He had a bunch of upcharges with the things that weren't covered. He also wouldn't wash his work or his products and I felt that was unreasonable. But the other ones that came through after that were fine. The most recent one was very good and I'm very happy with that. He talked properly, made an appointment and was here on time. He was very agreeable, talked to me what was wrong and did a good job. Everything was fixed.
We use Home Warranty of America once every 15 months. For the most part, it's good unless it's an emergency air-conditioning situation. It can be difficult if it's in a particularly hot period of time because the vendors tend to go out and I can't get service until sometime next week. That's the worst part. When the garage door failed, we couldn’t get our cars out. But we couldn't get a vendor out for nine days. So, Home Warranty of America authorized me to contact the local vendor and we got them out that day. The response time usually runs a couple of business days. If it's an emergency, it can be a problem, unless we get authorized. Nevertheless, I'd recommend to friends and family that they have a warranty service. I've had Home Warranty of America for five years in this house and I'm happy with them.

I have Home Warranty of America for four years now since I had the house. The real estate lady that I bought the house from was selling the policy and represented it too. I have appliances and different stuff I needed fixing and they cost quite a bit of money, so I got it. The most recent claim I had was for my air-conditioner this past summer. It ran but it wasn’t cooling. I filed the claim on the phone and I figured they should be able to back the people that they trust that they know are going to do the job. But I never got anyone out here. AHS asked me to get someone and I didn't like that. It wasn't very good.
I got one person that started working on it then AHS wanted him to file the claim to see what the problem was. He came back with no money because he lost money working on them so he left rather than take care of it. Then I asked a few people about people that could do that kind of work. My brother happened to know a person that could do it so I talked to him and he was the one that tried to do it.
He came, checked out the air conditioner and started to work on it. Then he went to call HWA, let them know what the problem was and how much it cost to fix it. But he got tired of waiting on the phone trying to contact them. He told me to do two things myself to make the air conditioner cool and that’s what I’ve been getting by with for about three months now. I’ve been running the air-conditioner manually by putting it in auto. I would turn the fan on and wait until the fan kicks in. Once the fan kicks in, I turn the unit on. When I do that, it's cooling but if I turn the unit on before the fan is on, it'll freeze up. I called AHS back but it took so long and I got disgusted to wait so I had not contacted them anymore. My understanding is there are not enough people around in my area that do that kind of work and they are just shorted.
I also had some work done on that air-conditioner before that. I made a claim over the phone, they sent a person right out and it was a really good experience. The unit worked for a couple of years before it broke down the last time. I also called in on the dryer because it wouldn’t cut off and continue to run. I was afraid it might burn the house up for doing it. I messed around and told them I thought the lightning might have hit it and caused it to do that. They didn't send in anybody and told me right away that they don't do Acts of God kind of work and that they don't cover that. But for the garbage disposal, they sent a guy out to come and fix it. He boasted to me that if I didn't have this warranty, the repair would have cost me a lot of money, but that's why I have it.
Now, AHS is trying to get me to the point that I don't even want to call them. I got stuff I need fixing but I don't want to put too many claims in. They think I'm trying to use them or they're keeping me off because they're kicking me out before they get to do some work. The main shocking thing with me is that they don't have their vendors. I have to find a vendor for them, and when I have, AHS can't relay to them and takes so much time to communicate with them. I also would have to pay some money out myself then AHS would have to reimburse me. I am very dissatisfied with AHS and they should do a better job than they are doing now.

I've had a good experience with Home Warranty of America. I've been using them for three years and each time, I feel like I've gotten my money's worth. My agency offered me Home Warranty of America when I bought the house. Since it wasn't a new house, I elected to pay the extra money to have the home warranty. It seemed like a good idea since it's a 10-year-old home and I didn't know anything about the appliances and what might be on its way out. I signed up and the experience has been fine.
Although I've occasionally had to wait for a short time, the people I contacted have been very helpful. Sometimes, I don't think much of the company they send to repair my issue. I wonder how they find these people that they send out, but they're polite and nobody rips me off. One time, I was having trouble with my heating system in the winter. They would say they fixed it but after they left I'd find out it's not okay. I was without heat that winter for about three months until they finally sent someone who knew something and got it repaired.
I am dissatisfied with Home Warranty of America this year. I called them since I was having trouble with my heating and cooling system. It's an independent system in the room and it's a through-the-wall type like you have at a motel. I told them what it was and they sent somebody who came out only to tell me that they don't service my type of system. That was $100 down the drain for me. They might have told me over the phone. That's happened before when I had something wrong with my washer. They told me upfront that they don't service my type of washer. Home Warranty of America is better than most and I've had a good relationship with them.

Signing up with Home Warranty of America was extremely easy. My realtor helped me with the process and I extended the warranty after it expired last year. it gives me a peace of mind. Filing a claim is extremely easy. The number is online, and one can just pick up a phone to call them. However, their technician took too long to service the air conditioner. They literally took six weeks, during summer, which is really not something that I appreciate. On top of that, there is no one person who can approve procuring a part. The approval process took them three weeks. It was the whole key that's why I did not renew my contract this year. They finally got it repaired, but there was quite a bit of out-of-pocket expense on my end.
The technician said there was a problem with the evaporator coil. They came and replaced the evaporator coil within a week. I had to then spend $450 to fill up the Freon. Within a week the system went down and they came back. They said that this time it's something else. I had to spend another $500 to fill in the Freon. It has worked a couple of months during summer but now that the heater is running, I can’t really give a full input that it’s working nonstop for the past year. So I’m on a wait and see.

Unfortunately, not all claims can be (completely) covered per the contract's exclusions.

The people I bought my house from in ’11 purchased Home Warranty of America for a year as part of the negotiation. I have fast claim service and they're good to deal with so I've renewed every year. When renewing my warranty, I call in and tell them I want to renew, give them my account number and it continues on. Then they deduct the payment out of my checking account every month. My interactions with the reps have always been good and everybody takes care of business as efficiently as they can.
I submit claims over the phone. I go straight through and it was quick and efficient. Then the reps get somebody to take care of my problem right away. Recently, I had a clogged drain. Every time I've had that issue, they refer me to the same people. So I called them and they came out. They made the phone call to the Home Warranty of America and they okayed the job and it was done within a couple of hours. Everything runs like clockwork and my experience with Home Warranty of America has been smooth and very efficient.

Home Warranty of America was part of the deal when we bought the house. There's always something that goes wrong so it's better to have it. We were only with them since last year. Submitting a claim is very easy. I usually call and so far, I'm very satisfied with their customer service representatives. They have sent three technicians and they've been excellent. They put in a new furnace and it’s working great.
Overall, I'm generally satisfied with Home Warranty that I renewed my contract. Although it was very easy to do it online, somebody hacked in my credit card before it got processed. It was immediately canceled by my bank so I had to get a hold of Home Warranty and tell them not to run it on that credit card. We worked it all out, and they were very cooperative on how to get it solved, so it was great.

My experience with Home Warranty of America has been 50/50. I signed up with them when I closed on my home. It was difficult submitting a claim. I called them up. They don't want to pay. They're an insurance company. The first part of that is if they're approved or denied. I had an issue with my furnace and they wanted to do the home inspection report. They said I should have done proper maintenance. I had been in the house in less than a year. So, that cost me a few thousand dollars. There were a couple of contractors that came out and gave me different advice on what to do. One said if I wanted to replace it and another guy said, "You just need to fix your ductwork. And we got your ductwork." So, that's what we did. They're having a guy come to check it, service it either tomorrow or next week. I have my furnace and my air conditioner checked each season.

When I bought this house, the seller got us Home Warranty of America and I continued the service. In case something broke down, I wanted it fixed. I've used it a couple of times and signing up for the service takes a little bit longer than necessary because there were the few times that I used it and I was put in queues. I'm accustomed to dialing a number and getting a person. I had to wait on repair people too. They don't always send out the best repairmen and they could be a little quicker about getting things done. Also, with giving them about $50 a month, there should be a few more things covered like garage door springs. I've had two replacements since I've been in my home and I had to pay for them myself. It would be nice to get a little bonus from them too. Other than those, the repair was done adequately and the technicians were wonderful and very professional. I have recommended Home Warranty of America to others.

I was first given Home Warranty of America by my Realtor after the purchase of my house. I have them for 5 years now and had several claims. Some of the claims were done on the first visit. Their reps have always been helpful, but neutral. They've addressed everything we've claimed but there were some things that they haven't covered. That's just how it is.
On our most recent claim involving the hot water heater, the first plumber from Hers and His Plumbing that they sent was very unprofessional. He said that he couldn't do anything about the water heater and that we needed an electrician to look at it because there's a little electrical box on top of the hot water heater. We called Home Warranty, told them that we weren't happy with the first guy and that we didn't understand why an electrician has to come out to look at the hot water heater. But they sent the electrician out and when he came, he said that he doesn't have anything to do with hot water heaters and that we needed another plumber to come look at it. We got a third person to come out, a plumber from Smith's Plumbing, and he was very excellent. He told us that the problem was the control box and we just needed another one. He called Home Warranty, got a control box sent out and we got it fixed two days ago.
The whole process took three weeks and I was very unhappy with the first plumber they sent out. He handled it wrong and I would not recommend that Home Warranty continue using that company. I felt like there were some unnecessary steps in there because of the first guy that didn't assess the situation correctly. The amount of time it took from putting the claim in and actually having something fixed was a problem. I have children and it was very inconvenient to go three weeks without the hot water heater. All in all, I'm satisfied with Home Warranty of America's services and I have recommended them. But they should take some feedback from what's been said about their vendors and get some vendors that are more interested in customer service.

The renewal process was very easy and simple. The people whom I dealt with were very friendly and helpful. I appreciate the service that they provided and for being very speedy in terms of getting the service to us. We had two circumstances where we used the service and I filed the claim online. We had a furnace that wasn’t working so they had somebody come in and check it out. Then, we had a filter that was going bad in our swimming pool and they put a new filter in. The two people who came that were contracted with HWA were really good. And, the furnace and the filters are still working so that’s a good thing.

Horrible customer service - dishonest money grabbers. We received a home warranty with purchase of our house. HWA not only refused to respond to an emergency water leak in our basement, they sat on the claim for three months after I filed paperwork. Do not waste your money. They will not pay for legitimate claims. They will make you call dozens of times, and will give you a different excuse every time as to the status of your claim.

My next-door neighbor mentioned what a great deal Home Warranty of America was in terms of being able to get things done and that if I didn’t have all that money at one time, I could spread it out and get a good warranty coverage. I also did a Google, went on their website and tried to look for fraudulent type things that went on.Then I compared it to all the others that I looked at and Home Warranty of America seemed like they had the least amount of bad feedback. I signed up with them and so far, my experience with them has been positive. But I had a few bumps on the road now when some of their contractors who came out tend to want to squeeze us a little for more money. That was kind of a negative but I’ve learned how to deal with it. I know the game they’re playing now.
One time, I had a wax ring around my toilet but the plumber refused to work on it and said that my warranty didn’t cover it. I called Home Warranty of America about that person and they said it was covered for me because I was paying extra and I have the Extra Premium. So I got the work done but the plumber wanted extra money for it. He was also trying to deceive me because initially, he didn’t want me to call and have a discussion with Home Warranty of America about it. He said I didn’t need to call HWA because he’s been doing it for a while and he knew it wasn’t covered. He also said he had to go to his next job.
At another time, I also got a technician who I could tell was giving me some BS about my air conditioner since I'm an electrical engineer. I called Home Warranty of America, let them know that this guy was a fraud and they sent somebody else out. The guy was on the ball but he put the capacitor back in wrong because he was trying to get back at me as I was upset with him after I figured he didn’t know what he was doing. He was trying to make it a much bigger job than it needed to be and it turned out to be a simpler component than what he said. He was also trying to make it appear that I needed a whole new air conditioner and he was escalating this stuff to be big money.
Other than that, the quality of work done by the technicians that came out who aren’t trying to gouge me was wonderful and they seemed to be very capable. I had a new furnace and there was some additional cost because there were smaller units that had to be restructured such as the piping because the drafting wasn’t set up right. That was $500 out of my pocket but I was there the whole time and I didn’t mind paying extra because there were initial problems.
The technician was excellent in doing calculations then showed me how it worked and I saw it work. He was very good and I’ll ask for him if I call back. I've learned that if a person did a good job for me and I needed something else done, I would have to ask for that particular person because I don’t know how the others will do. It’s more of a crap shoot versus somebody that’s well known and HWA doesn’t tell me I can’t get him and I don't feel that they’re giving me another guy who's not as capable.
I’ve been using Home Warranty of America for about 10 years and I've seen a big improvement in their claims process over the years. They encourage you to submit the request online now so it gives you the flexibility of going to the website and submitting requests for a claim. If you call, you can get someone, and it looked like it was going through quicker. The most I've waited now is about five minutes. I've used the website once but I like talking to people because they can ask me certain questions that the website wouldn’t necessarily provide.
Also, there should be a little less fighting. Before, I found out that Home Warranty of America was trying to find ways out of my claims. I felt that in some cases there were some exceptions and I've learned to look at the contract now and look at the fine print so there’s not as much confrontation about what’s covered and what’s not. I’ve heard horror stories but compared to other people and what I’ve heard with their services, Home Warranty of America seemed like they are the ones that live up to what’s going on in honoring the service that they give. Their team is very professional, trustworthy and well-organized. When they said they’re going to deliver something, everything lines up and falls into place.

It’s important to us to have the warranty but if I had to do it myself, I would do research. We had it for one year and there were good things as well as not so good things about it. We had a broken refrigerator and it took three visits to fix so they do not employ the best of the best. It falls in line with every other company as far as I understand. The coverage is no better or worse than any other but Home Warranty of America has a bigger copayment and that's what was very unsatisfactory. You pay $100 per call per item that needs to be fixed if it falls in the category of things that they cover. And I don’t like that they didn’t fix things that I needed them to. We just extended it for another year because that’s the only company we know.

I purchased an investment rental property in 2010 and then my realtor said that Home Warranty of America was the better one of the two or three options that were available. So I signed up for a service and it was a fine experience. The process is actually simple. I picked some options, get it priced, and then I said yes. Recently, I renewed their service for one of my properties. The customer service I interacted with was very useful. She managed to get the original offer price for a renewal after it changed for some reason in the run-up towards the expiry.
In 2016, the air conditioning froze up in the house where I live. So I went over the phone since it needed some servicing. Everything went fine. However, it has been more pain in the butt in the other property we have right now. I had somebody out in June to look at the pool pump and they’ve been out to look at it on a couple of occasions before. They keep replacing bits of it and then they replaced the entire thing. So, when the tenant texted me a month ago to say it’s doing that same thing where it comes on, runs on for an hour and then goes off again, I decided just to replace it and not even call HWA.
The people they sent just turn it on, look at it for a minute or more, and then they go and say "it's working fine." They’re not going to stay there until it overheats and shuts down because they want to get to their next job. And I paid callout charges for that. So, I just bit the bullet and replaced the pool pump myself. Overall, Home Warranty of America is great. The problem is the quality of the tradesman is very hit and miss.

I got the condo from another homeowner and they told me that the policy with Home Warranty of America was intact and that I should pursue it, which I did. When I went across other companies, the price was reasonable. I submitted a claim online and got the feedback the same way. The local service rep called to get an appointment and we went live human to human from then on. It was seamless and I was not dissatisfied in any part. They weren't intrusive, no one was calling me up three times and it went well. I upgraded my service and added some things. All the information was available to me and it was good.
They subcontract it out to another service. Most of the guys came in, looked inside and the piece that was needed was more than the cost of a new one. When my microwave died, I paid $75 and the guy came out, checked it, and determined that it was gone. I had to find the model number and I was able to get a complete replacement. They installed and life was good.
Financial service and insurance companies often send a form to fill out if you’d like someone to optionally look at your coverage and I never had that. As a consumer, I may not want it but if I have the option, I might fall into the trap and from the company’s point of view, the opportunity to upsell might be possible. Since I am a customer, they can come in and let me know that they’d be willing to check stuff out for me and if there were more things that needed to be done. It may be advantageous for the company to come and check a guy’s 20-year old air conditioner which is an accident waiting to happen. They can proactively go to the homeowner and look for those things that could break and step in to try to help so it doesn’t break for as long as possible.

I have been dealing with Home Warranty of America for years and signing up with them was easy. It's just trying to understand their offer to get the details about what they cover and do not, how much they cover and their responsiveness, since it's the details that make the warranty. I also go between them and a competitor, but they are on complete service. Plus, I like to see what they do and how they treat me because I refer them to other clients. I have also submitted a claim to Home Warranty and it was simple, carried out and handled quickly. I know a lot of the tradespeople and I like to use my own suppliers. If their supplier isn't available, Home Warranty is willing to bend and allows me to use mine. I'm very satisfied with them.

We’ve had HWA since we had the house. It was a recommendation and we’ve had good experience with them. Their rep is always courteous. I call to submit a claim and they have someone call us to come out and correct the problem. The last time was for my wife’s dryer which wouldn’t go on when she pushed the button. They couldn’t find the problem the first time. I gave the contractor the $75, which he told me was good for 30 days. Then we had the same problem and I called them back. They came out and found the problem and corrected it. However, I wish it was a little cheaper because that big amount of money comes up every year and it’s a lot of money. We used to pay it yearly and now, we’re paying it monthly because they keep raising the price.

Good Afternoon Al,
Thank you for leaving such an amazing review. We greatly appreciate your feedback. I wanted to apologize for the frustration the increase has caused. We work to provide the best value and prices to our homeowners, however, due to cost increases for parts and labor our prices are subject to change effective each renewal period. In regards to your dryer claim, HWA does warranty 30 days on labor and 90 days on parts. If you would like further clarification about your contract's terms, or if you have other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our live chat agents at hwahomewarranty.com and we will be happy to assist you. The house was going to be over a year old at that time and when my daughter told me about Home Warranty of America, I decided to go with them. Signing up was easy but looking back at it, they did not explain quite a few things. I was told that my aerobic septic system would be covered. It went out because of ants and they would not cover the part that needed to be covered. But I did not see any ants there so, I was not too happy with that.
My double oven took months before it was fixed. They kept sending people out who were not qualified and who would not show up nor take my phone calls. When I went to look their address up, it was an apartment complex. Eventually, they sent Sears out and they fixed it. Since then, the oven has been fine. I could get a hold of them when I submitted the claims over the phone but it was difficult getting them to send someone out without me having to call back three times. My policy renewed and had they not taken the money out automatically, I would not have renewed.

Good Afternoon Janet,
We appreciate you taking the time to provide your personal experience with us. When I bought a townhome, my realtor suggested that Home Warranty of America was a good business so I went along. I'm satisfied with their service and their people are always friendly when I talk to them on the phone and make my arrangements. Home Warranty of America was able to replace a faucet and work on my washing machine spinner board. I've also had them on the furnace for a couple of times. They always provide good service and they usually get a schedule with a reputable business in town.

Home Warranty of America has been nothing but good. It was offered by the realtor when we bought our current home. He had used them before and said they were good. It was all wrapped up into the mortgage for the first year, and we have renewed it ever since. We've used them for a few different occasions and have had good responses from them. The fourth time we've had to use them has been productive for us. The claiming process was easy. I went online, opened the claim up and they called us within less than 24 hours to schedule a technician. They did very well overall and I'm very pleased.

We’ve submitted a couple of claims to Home Warranty of America and it was easy. The representatives were courteous and were able to answer my questions. The most recent claim we had was an issue with our sink and the garbage disposal. We called HWA and put in a claim. They sent a vendor who was very courteous and prompt on their first visit and then stopped responding to any of our calls. They never came back and did the work they were supposed to do.
Home Warranty of America issued a different vendor who did the work. It works fine but it wasn’t what we thought we were getting. I wanted the sink to look just like the one we had but the vendor found the cheapest faucet he could find. The standard sink had four holes and the faucet he bought only took up three. The vendor told us he would get something to fill the fourth hole but he never did and we had to get our own. Top of the vendors have been subpar and it’s been an on again, off again experience. We had another plumbing issue last year and the plumber who came was awesome. He came right out the next day and took care of it. He did everything and it was a done deal.

Back in Illinois, our realtor told us that Home Warranty of America was a good thing to have. Then when we did transactions to buy a new house, we took home warranties with the seller. Contacting HWA, though, was a nightmare and they're not extremely proactive. We had two claims, one on our refrigerator and one on our water heater. They had a hard time communicating with each department within Home Warranty on who would analyze the parts that were to be fixed and who was going to place the order of the water heater. They also had a hard time talking with the plumber that they wanted to work with. It was so frustrating because it took forever and they were not making any progress. In the end, we told them to give us the payout and we'll a find a walk-in plumber within 24 hours. So it cost us a little bit more money but we had the water heater replaced and we were back in business.
The way they treat their customers is to push them to do the payout where you always get a lot less money because they give you the money that they would buy the appliance at whatever their buying power is and not at a retail rate. On top of that, they work with the cheapest contractors in the area even if they may not be available.
We still believe Home Warranty is a good thing to have but we have to brace ourselves to negotiate for discounts or work with them. It's still better than if we didn't have the home warranty. But our experience was not outstanding. If they had one person assigned to work a claim through all the departments and coordinate all the things that touch that particular claim rather than throw things at the wall to people they say they don't even know and make their processes enhanced, that would transform the experience. I'm not bashing HWA. They help when I have some things that break down in my house. I just want them to become a better company.

My refrigerator stopped cooling back in June 2017. It is now October 2017 and my problem still hasn't been fixed. HWA said a tech from a company called Air Force One would come out. They never called. I called them myself numerous times. Finally after some weeks, a tech answered. I was on my lunch break. He said he could come out that day. I said I'm at work and it's too late to make arrangements. He said if he didn't come out today then I will have to wait 3 weeks because he's going on his honeymoon.
I called HWA livid and they sent my claim to Twin Cities Appliances. They came out and replaced my compressor. It worked for a couple days and stopped and spoiled my food. They came out and replaced the dryer. Worked for a couple of days and my food spoiled again. They came out a 3rd time to replace the evaporator. It worked for a few days and stopped and once again my food spoiled.
3 sets of groceries I had to throw out!!! HWA said they were going to send Air Force One out and I said that was unacceptable. They said Twin Cities is no longer a vendor of theirs (what a coincidence) and that Air Force One will have to come out and diagnose it unfixable. Air Force hasn't called me and I left them several messages and still no callback.
I need this issue handled immediately. This has been going on since June. I have no food. All the money I wasted is gone! I am now pursuing legal advice. There has to be some special conditions that can help my case. And it took 2 months for a tech to come out and I think my $100 should have been waived! I refuse to renew with them. You should too!!!

We signed up with Home Warranty of America when we first bought our house and it was an easy process. We went online, signed a few papers and that was it. Their reps also sent us all the forms and told us what was covered. Submitting a claim was good the first time. We have our furnace and our air conditioning covered. My only bad experience was that I had one person come out for my air conditioning unit but didn’t fix it. They kept coming out and recharging it, so that made me very upset. I told Home Warranty that I didn’t want these guys anymore. I had to have somebody else, so I don’t use that company anymore. But as far as when they come out and I only pay the service charge, that’s not a problem because I only paid once. It's just ideal wanting the claim done on the first time. The next person from another company who came out looked at my AC and said that the unit needed to be replaced.
Other than that, my experience with Home Warranty has been very good. They’ve been very professional when they come. They're also very courteous on the phone. I also like that they can get me in as soon as possible because usually when things happens it's an emergency. Plus, when I asked them not to send certain people out here, they won't send them anymore.

The house already had Home Warranty of America when we bought it and we just kept renewing it for twelve years now. They’ve done a great job for the most part. The renewal process is automatic. They just send me an email and say they’re going to renew it next month. If I don’t contact them, they renew it. The reps are good. They’re always concerned when you call and they make sure that you’re safe and in a survivable situation. I usually get through the phone in a minute or two whenever I call them.
Everybody who’s come has always done the absolute best that they can to help get it fixed and done through the warranty company. The service providers submit the claim and unless there are modifications that had to be made with something they fix, Home Warranty of America pays for it. If there’s a way for it to be covered, then they explain the situation. When the heat went out in winter, they sent somebody out right away. We like everybody except for that one plumber that they sent out who, although was able to fix the issue, was a grumpy, old dude. Regardless, we’ve been happy with them and I’ve recommended them to other people.

I had a choice of a couple of different companies but Home Warranty of America had a 13 month for the price of 12. We picked HWA and the real estate agent handled everything else from there. The signup process with HWA was seamless. I initially set up the claim through their website and then I'd get a callback. I've submitted claims for an electrical issue, a plumbing issue, and then an AC issue. But the contractors is a hit and miss. I've gotten some really good and not so good ones.
It took them a long time with the AC issue I had in the spring. We eventually got it worked out, but once the claim was finally closed, I never received any type of communication about what was paid, what was the specific work done and a lot of information that they would need to have in order to close it. That was disappointing but for the most part, we liked our experience with HWA enough to renew it this year.

Our realtor recommended Home Warranty of America when we purchased our house. They have 13 months of coverage instead of 12, and we haven't ever had any issues with them so we stayed. We've also had some things replaced, and we were grateful that they were on board with this. Filing a claim is very, very easy. I do it online most of the time. Their website is easy to use too and the response is good unless it’s a weekend. They're not going to call you very quickly back on a weekend so that's mostly where the issues have been. Also, we had a little trouble getting the person they have designated to do our job call us back sometimes. But other than that, the other problems were usually rectified fast. As for the technicians they send out, we've had good ones, but the exceptional people would have yet to come out. But still, we're happy with the work. They get the job done.
Although the process of replacing things is easy, we had a little complication with the air conditioner because of a misunderstanding. We were quoted that if we went “green,” we were going to get a different situation for our air conditioner that needed to be replaced. Home Warranty went through the recording and found out that they had indeed told us what they said, and so they made it right and gave us the product that we were supposed to have. Even though it wasn’t exactly what the person that quoted us, they went ahead and stood by their word and did what they had to do.
So far, we’ve got everything taken care of and we haven’t had them come out for a long time. We also don’t have problems with renewing it each year. Our house will soon be 20 years old and pretty much the same products left in it like the oven and the microwave have been repaired. Overall, Home Warranty of America is a good company to keep on board because there are always unforeseen things that may come up and it’s a good safety net for us. We haven't had to make any claims for the last couple of years, but we’ve been satisfied with it so far.

I purchased a home that had HWA that was bought by the seller. We've had them for six months that we were at the home. We needed the air conditioning fixed and it was hot. I wasn’t familiar with home warranty services and how they worked. I wanted to be able to talk with someone in submitting my claim rather than do something online. It was a slow start and it was really hard to get a hold of anybody on the phone. I'd be on hold for extended periods of time like 20 minutes so I had to be patient to get to talk to someone. It was a little frustrating having such a hard time getting a hold of someone but once you're on the phone with them, they'd be helpful.
We had a little trouble with the serviceman that they sent out. He really didn't want to do the job and he didn't move anything along for a while. I tried to get a hold of HWA again and they went back to the serviceman. Instead of waiting for him, they went to him and found out that he didn’t want to do it. Then, they sent someone else out. I had to make phone calls with them a couple more times and enduring the wait. In addition, the replacement parts that they wanted to send out wouldn’t work for our system so, we ended up with a cash settlement. They paid as they had promised. It took a little longer to get the check than I thought it should in this day and age but it all worked out great in the end and we’ve used them once since then. The realtor was also the one who filed up for the service. We’ve had issues with the air conditioning and water heater and my mom submitted claims for those. Their contractors have been great, but we had one issue with one of them. The contractor who worked on the refrigerator issue told me one thing and he actually wrote one thing down on the paperwork. I like HWA's cost and I've been with them for three years now. I’ve submitted claims by phone and online and they’ve both been very easy to do which I appreciate. Their reps addressed my complaints quickly and got the paperwork submitted. But when their subs make appointments, sometimes it can be three or four days before they can have time to see you. When I had a water heater leaking that I had to stop, the first contractor said that it would take three or four days before the they could come out. That was on a Saturday and HWA helped me get in touch with another vendor. But they also couldn’t come on Saturday and could come out on a Monday or a Tuesday.
Then, when I filed a claim for my dishwasher, the tech only service my area town certain times during the week and it took a few days to get them out to the house. So I wish the subs would have quicker availability to look at an issue, especially if it’s an urgent one. Other than that, the issues got resolved so I can't complain too much.

Sometimes it takes some time when they need to order some pieces but the service is fine. The reps were very good and courteous. If they don’t know anything, they will research or speak with somebody to check about it and call me back.
I put a claim for our refrigerator because the bottom ice maker was broken. Our realtor chose Home Warranty of America when we bought the house two years ago. I was a realtor myself years ago and I was familiar with the company. On our first claim, we had a bad experience. We live in Minot, North Dakota and it's complicated because there were no people who would do the work for a washing machine that failed. The warranty company couldn't find anyone to do the work so they were just dumping it in our laps. Then they said that I had to figure it out and we tried but couldn't. That's when a sales rep came along and in the end, they gave us a cash settlement instead of helping us with the washing machine that we had.
We don't have much confidence in Home Warranty of America at all. When we had a water heater go bad, we again had to find the repair person, pay for it then get reimbursed, which the warranty company did. Then we had a septic tank problem which they did not pay anything on even though we believed that it should have been covered. However, we've stayed with Home Warranty of America again this year because the other companies don't cover septic at all. We just keep hoping that one of these days, they'll actually pay a claim and do it right.

Hi Cathlynn,
We appreciate you taking the time to provide your personal experience with us. We wanted to take a moment to apologize that your experience was less than exceptional and would like to assist you in properly addressing your concerns. Regarding your concern of the vendor selection, we do have a dedicated vendor development department that reviews and approves service providers through an extensive process. Unfortunately, in some areas, we are limited to the availability of vendors and at this time, we do offer you the ability to secure your own vendor and be reimbursed at HWA rates should the claim be covered. If you would like, I would be happy to submit feedback regarding your experiences with the vendors so that our vendor selection team can take this into account when renewing their contracts. In reference to your concern of the septic tank, it was considered as not covered due to improper installation and ground shifting which is not normal wear and tear as aligned in your contract terms. I sincerely apologize if these exclusions were not thoroughly explained to you previously. HWA does warranty 30 days on labor and 90 days on parts. If you would like further clarification about your contract's terms, or if you have other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our live chat agents at hwahomewarranty.com and we will be happy to assist you. Signing up with them and submitting claims have been easy. Everyone I've talked to has been nice so far. My latest claim was for my hot water dispenser and it's working fine now. There was a time when they didn't want to replace my air conditioner but they ended up having to replace it. I decided that I had to replace the AC as it was just not working. However, they would come out and make it work piecemeal. It literally crumbled when they replaced it. The tech said that the heater should have been condemned but Home Warranty wasn't willing. The tech said I could have ended up breathing toxins in the air.
Home Warranty was a little bit lax in taking care of the situation that should have been resolved without me having problems because of them. I've had them for so long and I'm not going to be changing companies but they should have replaced it without me having to go through all of that. They did a cash-out on it and they should have just replaced it because it was dangerous to even have. They are very pleasant and would recommend them for easy repairs. They're easy to work with as far as small projects go. However, if it's something major, they're not going to do it and just skirt the issue.

This company steals your money. They lie and close your claim to delay the process. After admitting to their huge mistake and saying our claim was covered, they offered to pay $317 of a $7000 bill. They intentionally left us with no AC for the hottest months of the summer in Georgia. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY ANY MONEY - they are thieves!!!

When I bought my home about 12 years ago, Home Warranty of America came with it and I continued to use it every year. The claims I submitted have always been taken care of very smoothly. However, when I filed a claim for toilet repair, they told me that the part that was needed for it was not covered and the sales rep and I got into a heated discussion. I told them that they advertised on the front of the policy that plumbing is covered. Their argument was if that particular part is not listed, then they don’t pay for it. I asked which page I can find that particular part and the conversation deteriorated after that. I finally hung up. I recognize the fact that I was angry, and you shouldn’t try to negotiate anything when you're angry.
The plumber came and apologized to me. He told me that he can't fix it completely and he let me know what they allowed him to fix. The issue was not what they did. It was what they would not allow to be done and that toilet is still not working like it should be. Until the date of that claim, the experience had been excellent but it went downhill completely. I've already paid for the year and I would love to keep Home Warranty of America and file that same claim again but I don’t want another experience like that which was not a good one.

Our realtor, when we bought the house, recommended Home Warranty of America. Signing up with them was really easy. The reps over the phone were very helpful and filing a claim was easy as well. The people who did the work were good by coming out and getting my claim all taken care of. I’ve been very happy with HWA. My experience with them has been very pleasant.

When we bought our house two years ago, our agent purchased the warranty from Home Warranty of America for a year for us. We got to compare it to other home warranty providers, and we found it to be the best choice. Their representatives have been fine. We had to use it twice in 2016 and the process went smoothly. Submitting a claim so far has been very easy. I called them and they gave me the recommendations on what to do and the providers to utilize. The situations were resolved. When we renewed the warranty this year, we paid a partial payment and then did the rest monthly, and they don’t do it that way. They fixed the issue quickly, and the refunds went in promptly. But right now, they don't provide what we wanted to do. You either have to pay it all off or you do the whole thing monthly.

It was extremely hot in the summer and we reported that our air conditioner was broken. We called 30 times in 7 weeks and every day we called, they said they will call me back and give me what they'll pay for but they never did. We had to buy two sets of portable air conditioners because we kept waiting on them. Home Warranty of America paid for nothing until we finally got the supervisor and they gave us $800 out of $10,000 we paid for the air conditioner. The contractors that came out were very wonderful and they felt bad about what happened but they can't say anything. Home Warranty of America has on record all the times I've called them. We had a couple of things fixed because we were going to drop them. Home Warranty of America is not that great and I wouldn’t use them again for anything. We renewed by accident but now we removed our credit card and we never want to hear from them again because we feel it's a scam.

I'm in the real estate business and the company that we are franchising required that we either provide home warranty or the buyers waive their desire to buy one. And so, they have another company and I really wasn’t satisfied with that company. So, I met with our rep, Leanne, and we talked about it and did some business with her. And then, I bought a place and I wanted to have a home warranty on my own place so I called her and told her that, and she set Home Warranty of America up for me. Signing up was pretty easy, and I've renewed it for the last three years. I submitted a couple of claims, and the process was simple, easy, and they seem to respond timely. The things they repaired are working well, and all is good. It’s been a great experience.

My water heater went out. So, we put a claim in with Home Warranty of America but we couldn’t get it because we don’t have the serial number. They kept saying that they need the model number and the serial number and I told them it’s not on the tank. I’m blind and I went all around it but couldn’t find it. My son-in-law even went up there and couldn’t find it as well. The man told me that it was like it had been torn off during shipment. I did not tear it off, but they would not believe me and I'm tired of being called a liar. It was horrible. Their rep said they will not pay anything on the claim. But a friend of mine talked to somebody and they paid around $300 or $400, but I got another tank and it cost me $1,250.
Also, they sent a guy out here. He went up there and I could hear the heater running then it would go off and it was running again. I thought he was testing it some way, but he just walked out the door and did not tell me it was not fixed. He was supposed to come back that Saturday but we never got a phone call and nobody showed up. I'm so sick of this mess, and I wouldn’t recommend them. They pull out those payments every month out of our account and we haven’t missed one. But I'm so sorry that they treated me like that after being over there for many years. It’s ridiculous and I'm disgusted with them.

I’m upset that the claim for my refrigerator has been ongoing for five months and it still hasn’t been fixed. I called Home Warranty of America, and spoke to a lady and she told me that she could take the claim. She asked me about the usual information that they take and then I told her that I was calling because my refrigerator still wasn’t working properly. The tech person came out and fixed the part of the refrigerator that wasn’t working. But I thought the whole refrigerator wasn’t working. It wasn’t filling out air. So I called back the company and told them that I needed them to come back because the guy didn’t fix the refrigerator right. They asked me if I have the claim number of the person and the name who was working with me on that. I told them the details and they said they were handling it. They called me back and said the man would be back out to fix my refrigerator.
That day passed and the guy didn’t come so I called the company again and told them that I was sick and I was just coming from the hospital, and it was summertime and I need my refrigerator to be working. I need water and the refrigerator makes that. I also need ice to buy food to put in my refrigerator. The company said they would send the man back.
The freezer wasn’t getting cold and the guys came two or three times. The lady called them, put me on hold, came back and said that they had to order a part. She asked me if that was sufficient with me and I told her it was. The guy ordered the part and it took a couple of days. I called HWA on a Monday and it was going into the weekend and I still haven’t heard anything from them. So I called again and told them I haven’t heard from them and I have my food in the refrigerator. My food wasn’t being cold and the refrigerator wasn’t working. Also, the freezer wasn't doing anything at all. The woman from HWA called the people again and she came back and told me that the guy said that he didn’t exactly know what the problem was. She told me that maybe they need to put another pair of eyes on it. She told the guy about this and he said it was perfectly okay with them if she would get another company to look at it.
Then somebody else came to look at the freezer. But in the meantime, the part came and they called me and said the part was there and the guy was coming to pick up the part. The guy came out but he ordered the wrong part. It didn’t go with my freezer and that went with some other freezer. But he said that he couldn’t put the part on because I had to pay money for it. I said, “I’m paying you so why would I have to pay some money? I already paid you.” He said because HWA said they weren’t gonna pay for the part, and that I would have to pay for half and they pay for the other half. Half my part that I was supposed to pay was $60. This was the height of summer so I told them to go ahead and I would pay the $60.
The guy bought the part and put the part on and the freezer starts to work. It worked for a couple of days and then it went out again because they didn’t go for my freezer. It wouldn’t close good. It was making sauce come down on my food like snow. And then after two or three days, the food got hard. I couldn’t pull the refrigerator door open because it’s at the bottom. I called back again and went through that with three other people and told them what was wrong with the freezer and they apologized and said they would send another company. The man from the other company came and looked at the refrigerator and he said, “I can’t fix the refrigerator because I can’t find out what’s wrong with it. I need to test it and I can’t open the drawer” because the refrigerator pulls out like a drawer at the bottom part of the freezer.
I told him I can’t open it either, and all of a sudden it just got hard. The guy, myself and my friend pulled on it and it finally popped open. All the food was stuck together in the refrigerator section like glue, but it was ice. The guy said that I would have to leave the refrigerator off for 24 hours and let the ice melt, then he could come back and see what the problem was. I told him that the other guy who brought the rubber piece said that part was the problem.
The guy came out after the food thawed out and after we got all the water off the floor and the ice box. He was testing the refrigerator, trying to see what was wrong with it, then he said, “The guy put the wrong parts.” He figured out that the refrigerator was not working because of the wrong part. He said, “How could he put the wrong part on like that and didn’t know that it didn’t belong to your refrigerator?” I said, “I don’t know. You would know more than me about the refrigerator.”
I also told him about the food I lost because he saw it himself. That was $100 of food that I had bought that we threw out. The guy said, “I’m sorry about that but maybe if you called them, they might give you some money or something.” So I called HWA and they told me, “We don’t cover people’s food if it gets bad.” I said, “Nobody told me that.” And then lady said, “It should be in your warranty.” I went down the line on the warranty with her and it did not say that if my refrigerator broke down that they would cover the food. But it didn’t say anything about what they covered or didn’t cover as part. Then the lady told me, “I don’t know what warranty you got.” I told her what it was and that it’s on the internet.
When I look in there and if I ask them what they want me to cover, it doesn’t say. It says refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, air conditioner and all that. But she tried to say that it did and I said it doesn’t say that. And she told me, “I'm sending you a warranty and it’s on the warranty.” I said, “But that’s not the warranty that was sent to me. I got it off the internet and that does not say that on there.”
The guy tried to fix the piece of rubber. He looked at that and then he went on to fix the ice tray to see why I wasn't getting ice. He needed parts and it would take days before it got fixed. I told them that’s okay, as long as it’s getting some air on the food and making them cold, I'm not gonna worry about that part. So he did. The part came, the guy came out and he put the part on about the freezer and it wasn’t making ice. He put that piece and the light that goes in the bottom came on with what he did so I was happy about that.
After he was gone for a week, the ice cubes stopped coming but the freezer was still cold. The company said that they would send the guy back out and he did. The refrigerator was doing the same thing. It was filling up the lower part with soft ice. But they didn’t come when they said they were coming. Then the refrigerator started to build hard ice. The guy couldn’t get it open again and he remembered from the first time. I told him that he has to pull the door on the other side because that’s how it got open before.
The one side was sticking and the other side wasn’t. He got it open and he said, “Your ice cubes aren’t working but despite food being hard again up there, it must have hit the fridge and cut the cubes off so it couldn’t work in that light.” He said that was the same thing. Then he said, “For me to do another test on it and make sure this is what it is, you need to cut the freezer off again for 24 hours.” I said, “I can’t keep doing that. I can’t keep losing food every time this freezer won’t come open. They need to send somebody responsible that can do this and I don’t have this problem.” And he said, “I can understand what you’re saying because the guy did put the wrong part on it. I didn’t know what it was and I was out here all these hours and if I hadn’t known from the beginning that it was the wrong part, I could have said that and saved you some time. But you might have to receive another refrigerator if I can’t get it to work.”
And I told him that since he's been here three or four times and the other guy was out here two or three times, it would seem that I would have a new refrigerator and I wouldn’t have to go through this. But now who’s gonna pay for it? Where am I gonna take my freezer food and put it? It’s not like I got another freezer. And I can’t go out and drive. The doctor told me no driving. So I can’t go out and buy ice and keep this stuff cold until they are able to get back here and fix it.
The woman from HWA called me and we worked on getting my refrigerator replaced. The guy said, “I’ll call you back when I get back.” And I said, “No. The lady told me to call them when you come, and let them know and I didn’t have to pay you for service if you didn’t work on anything. I will call them while you’re here because I don’t want you to think that this is what I’m saying.” I called HWA and she got on the phone and talked to him. He was trying to explain to her what was wrong with the ice the best he could. Then he told me, “You don’t owe me anything for coming today. They’re gonna waive it.” I said, “They should. You didn’t do anything. The woman told me that whatever you say would be the reason they would give me a refrigerator. It would be on your terms.” The guy just gave a sigh. And he told the woman, “I can’t work on it now. I got some other orders I got to go and finish and have done today. But I will send you some paperwork.”
So he passed the phone back to me and the woman said, “When I get the paperwork ready he writes on there. That will all depend on how you would get a refrigerator.” So I said, “He’s been out here four times. This is before the other person. That should explain for itself. You don’t need to agree to that.” She said, “We are open on Sunday from 8:00 to 8:00 and I will call you.” I said, “But this guy doesn’t work on Sunday so that’s still not helping me. I got to find something to do with my food.” So she just said, “I apologize. Maybe we could send you a $50 dining card.” That’s fine but that doesn’t have anything to do with my food in that refrigerator because I can’t take that to pay for the bad food.
However, she didn’t call Sunday and I didn’t hear from the people. I called the company around Monday or Tuesday and asked the guy when he was coming back to fix my freezer because I got some of the food in a cooler and I got two or three of my meats in somebody else’s refrigerator. I need my own refrigerator to put my products in. He said, “I don’t know what they’re gonna do. I haven’t heard from them so I can’t make a move until they do what they got to do. I'm gonna call you back.” I said, “I’m starting back to work now and I’m leaving at 9:00 so you should call me by 9:00. I shouldn’t have to wait any more days on this. This has been going on since April and it’s August. This should be fixed.” He said, “You’re right. I’m gonna call you back.”
Somebody did call me back and the lady said, “We’re not responsible for anybody’s food going bad. That should be in your contract." I said, “It should be but it’s not in there.” We went back and forth at each other and I was telling her I won’t keep paying $75 for someone to keep coming back. That’s when she said, “No. The people that you’ve been working through are here on the phone.” And in order for me to get the same piece of rubber that the guy had put on it that I paid $50 for that didn’t work replaced, I would have to pay for it again because it was over 30 days.
I told her, “That has nothing to do with me. I already told this tech and his company about this thing isn’t working. And this guy that was there to fix it already let my supervisor know that that rubber part is not keeping his share.” The lady said, “In order for you to get that part and the guy to come out and test it and the guy that fixed it is $200.” I said, “I’m not paying you another $200. And I have to pay you $75, too?” She put me on hold and talked to the tech. She didn’t want me to hear what he was saying. When she came back to the phone, she said, “He’s gonna waive. He won’t take the $75 from you. You just pay the $200 and he would come back to order the part and put it.”
I said, “Even if he didn’t get $75, that amount is in the $200 because the other company that put it on, they said the piece of rubber was $60 and that your company was paying half of it." And she said, “Oh, no, we don’t pay half”. I said, “You all need to make up your mind.” I told her that I’m gonna get the Consumer Business to do some checking on them because I already told a friend about them and they told me people were already complaining of having problems with warranty companies. And I got all my pieces of paper and proof that my refrigerator is not working.
Then she said, “I’m so sorry. Can you hold on another minute?” When she came back she said, “I told him what you said and I told you that he’s willing to drop the $75.” I said for this piece to be this high and having to come out here, he ain’t dropping it. Then she said something about, “Well, he has to be paid to come out there. You are not paying him to come out there. He’s being paid to put that rubber part on.” I said, “That part doesn’t cost that much. I need my refrigerator.” And so she said, “Well, that’s the only thing I can tell you.” So I said, “So he’s not gonna put the part on without the $200 being paid and that’s being paid by me. Nothing is being paid by you. I don't think that’s fair. I need a refrigerator. I can’t go week to week and I can’t buy food. There should be somebody else I should be able to talk to besides you.” She said, “Well, if you want to call it again, you can but it’s gonna be the same thing.” I told her that I will still look at it.
And then it went down to a $194. They wanted me to think that they were taking the $75 off but it’s still worth $194. I still don’t see why I have to pay that because if he’s coming to put a part on, that’s telling me that I’m paying. So she said, “What do you want to do? You don’t want to do it. If you don’t want to do it, the man is on the phone. I’ll just tell him not to order the part. I don’t know what you’re gonna do from there. We can’t pay you for the food.” I said, “If you were a reputable company and I'm a customer and I’m gonna renew my policy with you again, I shouldn’t have to go through all this. This is the way I look at it. But I see why people complain about the owners taking advantage of because we don’t have anybody to represent us. Go ahead and tell him to order the part because I need a refrigerator.” I have no other choice. If I say no, I have no refrigerator. I have to go out and buy one. I wouldn’t recommend HWA, and I got friends there that know what I went through.

I've had my warranty with Home Warranty of America for nine years and it has been fine. It was included with the sale of my home. The sales reps have been good and, in all the claims that I filed, I've never had a bad experience with the rep. Normally, the technicians that have come out were good. I had one guy who was amazing, and apart from him, there have been some other technicians who came, but I was not impressed with one or two of them. For the most part, however, everyone has been very friendly. As for the ones that I had an issue with, the issue was eventually resolved. Over a year ago, I had an issue with a technician and a customer service rep promised that I'd get a call back and a follow-up, but I did not receive these. They do follow-ups for parts, but not for the actual work after it has been completed. On the whole, though, it has been good with Home Warranty.

My HWA warranty came with the house I bought and I've had them for two years now. My most recent claim with them was for my dishwasher and they were able to fix it. The contractor who came was great and very accommodating. It’s always better to have a dishwasher than not have one. I'm glad I have HWA.

A policy with Home Warranty of America was on my home loan when I bought the house and it was easier to just renew my policy with them rather than go with another home warranty provider. Renewing my policy with HWA was easy to do online. My interactions with the rep were good. But when our AC broke, I had to call back several times because, apparently, the repair work didn’t cost me just the $100 deductible. Instead, it ended up costing me $500 because certain things weren’t covered. Other than that, the tech was good and polite, and the performance of my AC has been sufficient since the repair. I've been with HWA for a year and my entire experience with their home warranty has been fine. HWA has been sufficient and they got the job done.

I had an issue with my air conditioning system in the summer of 2016 so I called and filed a claim with HWA. My claim was filed on or about June 2, 2016. HWA sent out the 1st contractor of their choice and that contractor came out and said that it was my control on the wall and changed it out. Well that was not the problem because the issue with my air conditioner still persisted, my control was one that I used to do more than the one that I was given to that only turns the unit off and on and is very simple. I called HWA and a second contractor was assigned and that contractor never called me and never showed up. I called HWA and a Third contractor was called and that contractor stated that it was my TXV was the issue and then stated that my air handler may need to be replaced. The information was sent back into HWA. There was no follow up call was ever made during the claims process in 2016.
I called back to get an update on my air conditioner issue and HWA told me that the air handler needed to be replaced and that I would be responsible for $450.00 dollars. The heating and cooling tech came back out and I noticed that the air handler was a Lennox and my original unit was a Bryant so I ask the tech about the two units working together and he stated that this is how HWA decided to address the issue. I then called the company and expressed my concerns and they told me that it was okay to put the two units together. The tech installed the unit and then told me that my bill was $695.00. I then said to him that's not correct and that my portion is only $450.00 and the tech scratch out the amount he wanted on the bill and accepted the $450.00.
Fast forward to August of 2017 I start to have a issue with my air condition unit again and I call HWA and file a claim and ask to speak to someone in management because I needed someone to look at the internal notes and really put a magnifying glass on my issue and on my past claim. I explained that it was my concern that the install in the summer of 2016 may not have been correctly done and I had been stating my concerns about the install since last summer. I was told that someone in management would call me back but I never received a call so I called back and spoke to a claims rep and the phone call ended with I only have so much time on each call so I have to get off the phone at this time.
HWA assigns another company to come out to assess the issue and lo and behold I learned that the install was incorrect/improper and it damaged my outside unit as well and that the entire unit needed to be replaced inside and out. I then call HWA and an agent was elusive about the issue with my claim and would not confirm that the install was improper. I became concerned because at this point I do not have air and it looks like I will not have heat for the winter because of the poor installation of the air handler. I called HWA on or about October 2, 4, and 6th of 2017 to get updated on my claim. On October 4, 2017 I was told by an claims rep that I would have no out of pocket fees and and October 6, 2017 the heating and cooling company called and said that they just got approval to replace my entire system and that I would have to pay $813.00 dollars out of pocket to have the installation completed.
I explained to the contractor that I was told that I would have no out of pocket fees and that I would call him after I spoke with a HWA claims rep or someone in management. Before the call ended the contractor stated that HWA was ordering the parts and it would give me time to speak to HWA about my concerns. I then called HWA and I get a claims rep on the phone by the name of Kelly and she tell me that she would check into my concern and give me a call on Monday October 9, 2017 because it takes 48 hours to investigate a claim and they had made a decision on my claim a few days before. I then ask Kelly why would HWA make a phone call to the contractor without completing any investigations. I stated that one would have completed all investigation before the contractor was called and also I would think that my warranty company would have followed up with me on this claim because of the history with the claim.
I also communicated to Kelly that I had called in to speak with about 5 claims reps including the one on October 4, 2017 and every claims rep gave me a different answer. It is and has been my concern that HWA does not train their claims reps to read the internal notes and because the claims reps only have a certain amount of time to process a claim my personal needs with my claim had been overlooked and were not met. I feel that someone in management should have called me back and that this issue was outside of the claims reps responsibility because they are trained to process claims and management should be responsible for approving special claims like mine.
I plan to voice my concerns to the insurance commissioner in the state that HWA has their quarters and I plan to make a stand because I paid for a product and I was sold a false bill of goods. I spent about $700.00 dollars for the warranty, $100.00 for the trade fee, and $450.00 for the improper install of the Lennox air handler. I feel that the average consumer does not understand that most home warranty companies don't care about customers or their employees. We have turned into a society that simply cares less about the next persons needs even when that person have taken the time to buy or pay for preventive resources hence home warranties.
HWA is a company that collects money from the average consumer that thinks that the warranty will cover them in a time of need and then they really show how they really care about the consumer after they receive their money by never following up with phone calls. And the agent say whatever they can to get the customer off the phone so that they meet the quota and not run over their less than 5 minute phone call.
Seriously!!! Let's get back to real customer service and give the customer the service that they paid for and not slap them in the face with surprises when there is genuine need to use their warranty and services that have been paid for in advanced. The real deal is most consumer will never use their warranties. It lines the pockets of the warranty companies. One would think that when a consumer needs to use the warranty. Companies like HWA would simply pay up with no hesitation because in some cases homeowner may have had the same warranty with the same warranty company for many years...

Whoever had suggested Home Warranty of America to me said they were one of the better companies to work with, so I went with them. I had bought homes with my husband but after he passed away and I was living on a specific income, I wanted something that would cover what I would not be able to afford. I renewed every year and kept them the entire five and a half years I owned that home. I put that warranty on the buyer of my home and that is a warranty I insisted on having in my new home. I had a huge incident in submitting a claim and they took great care of it and of me and that’s why I renew it every year, and I will not stop renewing. I already have recommended them to everybody I know that buys a home. They’ve been nothing but awesome with me. I will not own a home without having Home Warranty of America.

I got my Home Warranty of America policy as a gift when I bought the house. Some of the appliances were very old so as a buyer incentive, the bank paid for the first year of the policy and my realtor paid the second year as a gift. So I just continued with them. My experience as far as submitting the claim with them was painless and I do it over the phone. However, I’m considering terminating the policy because I've called several times for my refrigerator and they were never willing to replace it even after I have called several times for it. It is also the same with my furnace and they still try to fix it instead of just replacing it. By the time we pay our deductible three or four times, we can already invest in another one. Nonetheless, they did get the stuff fixed so our experience was just okay.

The age of our house made my husband do some research on home warranties on the internet. We got Home Warranty of America and when we submit a claim, a repairman comes out and checks if the unit can be fixed and whether or not the cost of repair is economical. Our refrigerator broke and people came out to look at it. They couldn’t repair it, so we chose to take the buyout and purchased a new refrigerator. We also filed a claim for a washing machine and the tech determined that it was not economical to repair it. He recommended replacement, so Home Warranty did. Now, I have functioning appliances. They have great service, and we’ve been satisfied.

Home Warranty of America had good reviews when I searched online. I signed up for their service and they took care of me in a timely manner. Their service was on point with everything and that’s something I value. The sales reps were friendly and I had no issue with them. To submit a claim, I just called and told the claims reps what my problem was, and they found a contractor that could take care of me.
The contractors gave me their information, then they came in and I got the service from them. Sometimes, though, they didn’t come right away because of their scheduling. When they came, they told me what was going on and what was wrong, and they asked for the service fee that I had to pay, which is a co-pay. Normally, they fixed the problem right away or else they told me that they had to get approval from HWA and they went from there. They also told me if we had to wait to get a part in, but if they had the part over at their place, they got it and fixed the problem. So far, they've been doing good. The only thing was that every time I tried to renew my contract with HWA, their price went higher. Nevertheless, I’ve been with them for three years now and I’m happy with what I have.

We've had the service for over five years and I’ve never had a problem with them. I’ve recommended them to several friends already.

I have a very old subzero refrigerator so I looked into home warranties. Home Warranty of America have a better reputation and signing with up with them was easy. The reps are fairly accommodating and I like to talk with them when submitting a claim. A lot of times there's a delay and they give a contractor out of our area. So when the contractors start to come, they then call to say that I'm out of the area which is not good. Still, it's easier to get a hold of Home Warranty of America.

Three people recommended a home warranty to us. One of them was the realtor and she strongly recommended that we get one. Among the companies they recommended, Home Warranty of America was the cheaper one so we went ahead with them. I filed a claim over the phone when our well started acting like there was something wrong with the pump. Their claims agents were very positive, friendly and very professional.
But it seemed that the contractors prefer to have the homeowner pay for the repair. A couple of contractors initially said they were signed up with Home Warranty of America, which was how we heard about them. Then when they came here, they acted as if they came because we called them. They kept telling me that I should pay them the money in cash and upfront which was very disappointing. Also, they were doing it to me but wouldn’t talk like that to my husband and they were not telling Home Warranty of America what they were doing. I told one of the technicians that I'll call HWA because they note and transcribe everything they say. So if they really agreed with him that I should give him cash, they'll let me know right away. And that was very good that HWA told me ahead of time that they monitor and record calls because then, the guy stopped making up stories.
I still called HWA about the issue and they addressed it. I understand that they don't control their contractors and I know some people can make up stories and demand money from the customer. That’s not ethical but it wasn’t Home Warranty that was being unethical. It was the contractor. So HWA should be stressing to their contractors the fact that they have to be ethical and that they can’t tell people stories. Eventually, we found two plumbers who were very honest and have no problem with going through HWA. They were great and through them, we found out that the problem was not with the pump but with the well. So we’re working on getting that taken care of because that’s not covered in the warranty.

I'd like to start off by saying that I made this account specifically to review this company; that is the ire with which they have left me. Upon making a service call with them, they contact one of their contractors that will then contact you (supposedly) and you will owe them $100. If you happen to be in a family that works 9-5, be prepared for at least one of you to miss a half day of work in addition to that, as every contractor they have has terrible hours of availability, and almost always terrible reviews on their own.
My wife and I bought our house in May, and by mid summer of 2016 it was very apparent that our air conditioner was not functioning properly. It would continuously freeze up and cease functioning altogether. Seven service calls spread out over about a month and a half (during the hottest summer on record, mind you) we still could not get a replacement and HWA would only authorize more and more Freon to be dumped into our non-working AC (In addition to the $100 per service, HWA does NOT comp Freon). We had requested different contractors after every other service, and finally after three had recommended a new compressor, HWA finally relented half way through the summer. We were ecstatic, until we found out they didn't cover "modifications to a unit, or copper", meaning we would have to front nearly half the cost of the entire new unit.
In summary, we spent the hottest summer on record with no AC in Oklahoma, had HWA representatives hang up on us or actually laugh when asked about reimbursement, and spent over $2000 on a supposedly "covered" replacement. That's not mentioning the money lost from having to miss work to meet with their contractors. If you are considering a policy with Home Warranty of America, please reconsider. Just google their company, you'll find countless other reviews just like this one. Thank you.

When we bought our condo in 2007, we were asked if we wanted to have a home warranty with Home Warranty of America and we said we did. We paid for the warranty and we've used it ever since. We paid by the year and we weren't doing monthly payments. As my sister used to say, she’d hurt once and get it over with. It was a good idea to keep the home warranty to cover repairs of our air conditioning and appliances. We've used it three or four times in the past and we've been very happy with it.
We've stayed with HWA this whole time because their warranty worked for us. We've paid them whatever they wanted us to pay and I've read my statements and what was covered by the warranty. The only thing we don’t have is a flood insurance, but we live in the desert here. The only reason I would have to worry about our not having a flood insurance is that there's a patch of grass and a huge rock out there in front of us, so when it rains heavily, the water gets full there and can come up to the patio. But since we have to step down from our front room to the patio, I'm not too worried about that at the moment. The only thing we need to be worried about is if there was a lake from upstream and it came downstream.
Generally, when I called the 800 number of HWA to file a claim, they had me talk to the contractor and give them my claim and warranty numbers, and they told me that I would be charged a $75 co-pay. Then the contractor called us and came out, and they fixed whatever we needed fixed. The technicians were usually nice people, so I liked them and I've never had any issues with them so far. Sometimes, though, the contractor that HWA called wouldn't come out, so they’d call somebody else, and they’d call me back and let me know what company would be coming out instead. They're very conscious of customer service and I don’t mind being with them.
The last time I filed a claim with HWA, the rep I spoke with was very accommodating and I didn’t have any problems in getting somebody on the phone. I told her that my oven and stove weren’t working and she said they would have a contractor come out here, and they would text to me the name of the contractor on my cellphone. The contractor called and told me that they were the ones coming out for the home warranty repair and they asked me to have my $75 co-pay ready. Then the technician came out and he was very good. He diagnosed the problem, took one thing out and put another thing in, and my oven and stove worked just fine. Afterwards, HWA sent me a thank you note or a notice about that service. We've had an awesome experience with HWA and I liked them. They've been very prompt and good, and I've never had any problems with them.

Needless to say I am dropping them and filed a BBB complaint for shady business practice.

We purchased and moved into a home and we weren't sure if we needed any other extra expenses in case anything went wrong. I had a warranty company the first year I was out here and their service people weren't any good. So I went to find another home warranty company. My daughter uses Home Warranty of America and told us they covered just about everything and that they were efficient in the people they sent out. I've been with HWA for four years now.
Signing up was easy and fast. They sent out the information first and you can turn it down within so many days to make sure it covered everything you want. Plus, you could pick and choose what you needed. We got the platinum package and it covers pretty much everything. We have a really big sewer system and I needed it specifically for that because we live in a rural area. I also have the water line system that's separate and they started offering it on the second year that we had it.
The last time I submitted a claim was over a year and a half ago and it was for a heater. We ran into a little problem with the service people, and we wound up not using them again and Home Warranty wound up not wanting them again. We submitted our claim over the phone and it's been working fine after being fixed. They're good and dependable. I'd recommend them to anybody.

My husband was retiring and our house and the appliances were 10 years old. I thought it might be a good time to get a warranty because things don’t last forever. The lady that I used to work for told me that she used Home Warranty of America, so I checked them out. Their price was a bit better than a couple of the other ones I’ve checked, but it’s mostly because they came highly recommended that I went with them. Setting up with the service was very easy and I have done two claims already. The first claim was last year over my disposal that stopped working, and they replaced it. My second one was with the air-conditioning system and that was a situation where I got a bit aggravated.
I wanted to talk to a person and I couldn’t because I held on and on and I found out that it was better to go online and request the service. The two people that they recommended to me did not call me right away and I had to call them. We went through a whole weekend of it being a hundred degrees outside and not having air so I wasn’t happy about that. This year, it was the very same thing when the other system went out. One of those that they recommended was Tidewater Heating & Air and the other one was Hotboys and we had the very same situation with them. It went out over the weekend, and I called and made a request online on Friday night. I expected someone to call me or get in touch with me on Monday morning and they didn’t, so I called to set up an appointment but they were extremely busy and backed up so it ended up being a week. Luckily, it wasn’t a hundred degrees outside.
When the guy came out here, he did not have the right tools to do what he needed to do, so he wanted to set another appointment for a couple of days later and my husband said no and told him to come back tomorrow with the right stuff. That’s my complaint. Otherwise, everything else has been great. I like the idea of having the home warranty but I don’t get to talk to a person. Sometimes it’s easier to verbally explain what’s going on than it is to put in words. I still have the home warranty and I’m using them because it’s a good thing to have but I would also tell my friend what my experience was. Home Warranty of America needs more companies to do their service so that the consumer or the customer doesn’t have to wait so long to have an item fixed.

The beginning of the claim is a little difficult because their customer service representatives don't understand that as a property manager I represent the owner of the property and I have to put in the claim. It’s a little difficult to get through that initial, “Hey, this is who I am and this is what I’m trying to do." But after that it gets a lot easier. Also their technicians are good and fast. I don't get any complaints from my residents. They go out there and complete the work. After the work is done I send out a survey and I typically get good results. Everything is good to go and the residents don't have to worry about anything.

We used to have a home warranty with a different company for quite a few years. The companies that they contracted with were incompetent and had inferior service and workers so we switched to Home Warranty of America. So far, they are better in all aspects. I contacted them one time because the heating element in my dryer went out. The first time they attempted to contact a service company, the service company never came to our home. When I called the second time, Home Warranty tried to send another company, but they were located in Everett which is north of Seattle and I'm 60 miles southeast of Seattle. That’s a long distance for them to come and that was their reason for not coming to this area. When I called Home Warranty back, I told them that I wanted somebody who was local that could repair it and get it done. They contacted somebody in Tacoma, which is just 18 miles from us.
The technician did a very good job. He asked me to take a picture of the label on the inside of my dryer that indicated the serial number and model number because he knew exactly what was wrong with it. It was very easy. The quality of the service since the repair was good and the dryer that is 11 years old is still up and running. I had a good experience and I’m very satisfied with Home Warranty of America.

Just purchased a home with a contract with HWA. We had plumbing issues and called to get service. Because I noticed a leak under the kitchen sink before the effective date they refused to cover it. Previous owner also capped the whirlpool bath, I'm guessing because of a bad pump. They also refused to cover it stating it was pre-existing even though the home inspection did not list either problem. They also upsold me additional coverage saying it would cover the tub and fixtures from hidden.

When I bought my mobile home, Home Warranty of America was in the paperwork. I’ve submitted quite a few claims to them and I always call them to do that. I don't like doing things over the internet because it's more efficient to talk to a person and I've always had good service. The most recent one had to do with my air conditioner. It wasn’t working right and I had to have somebody come out and check and fix it. I've lived in my mobile home for six years and Home Warranty of America has gone out every year for one reason or another and they've always been very well to fix it. I'm very pleased with them and I would hate to be without them. I would recommend Home Warranty of America.

Home Warranty of America provided contractors that have worked with us and there is also the excellent performance of the work they do. I'm satisfied with the service. If I would have something done, I get it done with great expertise. Other sales representatives tell you something but they do the opposite. With Home Warranty, there's a person who's going to perform the work and if you’re not satisfied, you can also respond back to them. I had several claims which I submitted by calling the brands of what I was requesting a work to be performed for and they would tell me what has to be done, give me an estimate of everything and tell me how much I have to pay upfront. There was work to be done on my sump pump and the performance has been excellent since the repair. They just need to continue doing those special good work.

The last 3x we used HWA, the company sent out people that didn't show up, didn't call to reschedule, and didn't fix problems. After NUMEROUS calls/ complaints, we still had difficulty getting items fixed in timely manner. They do NOT follow up during Copenhagen claims & it is IMPOSSIBLE to talk to supervisors! They waived our $100.00 fee the last TWO times! Really!? Not enough for all the stress and inconvenience!!! No A/C for a week - A/C company said they would show up a day later - no show - not once but the next time also. HWA SENT NEW COMPANY - which finally showed up when they said they would after other one didn't & it was fixed in 5 minutes! Refrigerator needed a fan! Company didn't come for 16 days! Meanwhile, fridge was working so hard that it shut down and we lost all of our food in the freezer!
Instead of just needing a fan we needed a compressor and other parts and had to wait for them to be ordered and it took over six weeks and it could've been fixed with the fan had they got it to us in a timely manner! Call the supervisor and Guillermo apologized for the one time inconvenience! I reminded him that it wasn't just one time. It was the air conditioner, the refrigerator and our garage door still do not fixed after they've sent people out numerous times. You have to push a button to her three times to get it to open! Not sure why service has declined and maybe they have new owners but we will not renew our contract and we've always been happy with HWA! Perhaps they need to hire more competent companies and managers tend to step up and intervene!!! Especially after customer has already had one bad experience!

When I bought my home, the first year with Home Warranty of America was provided for me and I continued to renew it. Their price is okay and they send a good service personnel every time. I either call them or go to the internet to submit claims. I tell them what's wrong and they give me an order number and then they call the contractor and let me know who it is. Also, they tell me to give the contractor a call and set up the appointment if I won't hear from them within 24 hours. The only thing I didn’t like is they kept fixing my 30-year-old AC unit instead of replacing it. And they said they would do it until they could no longer find the part that it needs. After being with them for eight and a half years, they could have replaced my AC after it went out the fourth time, but I ended up buying a new one on my own.

Hi Kathleen,
We greatly appreciate you for leaving us such an exceptional review based on your personal experiences. We strive to proud our customer's great customer satisfaction. Home Warranty of America have done nothing with our last two claims. I've been waiting three weeks for my air condition to get fixed. They told me they had already ordered the part but they hadn't ordered it. They told me I got to pay $3,000 for the inside of my unit and I thought they have me fully covered but it's not the case. I cried last week. They got recordings on me, "I'm begging you, can you please get out here and just fix my unit?"
They gave me back and forth but nothing yet. I have congestive heart failure. I've been cut, the heart taken out and I've waited in this hot house three weeks for them to complete one problem. They are not professional at all. At least they could have called and told me they have not ordered the part and I could have fixed my unit by now. I also have plumbing trouble and they didn't fix it. They turned it in and said that it's been completed but they haven't been back to check or call or anything. So I just canceled the claim with them. They're bad business.

The mortgage company arranged for the year’s worth of coverage with Home Warranty of America. Their reps were good. The techs they’ve sent out were all very good and helpful and they all did their jobs, too, up until recently. Early this year, I had a problem with my air conditioner, and the young man who came out just looked at it and told me it was old and it couldn’t be fixed, but he couldn’t authorize a new one either. I then told him to let HWA know but he said the company won’t replace it. And then he left and I got charged $60 for the visit. I went ahead and replaced my air conditioner.
I wish the company would be more honest on what the policy covers and what it doesn’t. I carried the warranty because the air conditioner I have was in the process of dying, but it didn’t do me any good in the end. I’ve gotten new appliances now and I don’t need a warranty. We were going to cancel our policy this year but we were not quick enough, so I’m going to carry it for one more year, then I probably will cancel it out. But other than the air conditioner incident, all the other experiences we’ve had with HWA had been very good.

Good Morning Doris,
We appreciate you taking the time to provide your personal experience with us. If you would like further clarification about your contract's terms, or if you have other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our live chat agents at hwahomewarranty.com and we will be happy to assist.

We've been with Home Warranty of America for 12 years. I stay with them because they are fairly responsive and they have a wide network. It's very easy to renew contract with them too. Also, their customer service people have been very empathetic. However, my experience in submitting claims have been mixed. Sometimes their network is not available right away so I have to wait a few days. I’d propose somebody that I know to come and fix the problem, but Home Warranty of America would not approve it. On the other hand, the techs that they've sent out have been fairly competent. It’s just that they should widen their network more so that they can find somebody who's available when we need them right away.

They just made some excuse to refuse my claim. One time, I opened the garage and I could see on the wall inside but we need to send another person to open it. Customer service sucks. Had a plumbing issue (sewage backing up in house) on a Sunday. Called and asked and set up a plumber to come. Was told it wouldn't be till Thursday. With that said, no baths, washing clothes. Flushing toilets etc. I have 5 females that live with me, we made it work out until that Thursday. The plumber came and said he didn't see any problems. That it must be my septic. So I spent a $100 for him to do nothing and paid another plumber to come ($200) only to tell me that the septic was working. That it has to be the lines.
At this point I was aggravated and needed my plumbing to work. So I called about my warranty and was told they would send another plumber, this was at 11 pm at night. I was so fed up, I told them I can't wait any longer. I was told to call someone myself and if they fixed the issue that the 1st plumber could not do, then they would refund my money when I send them the bill. So I do it and spent $345. The company came and found a clog in the line and everything was back to normal. This was in the middle of August.
It's now the end of September and still have not received my refund, a email or call. I did exactly like I was told and emailed my bill that I paid to the email I was told to. I called over and over and only get put on hold forever then get cut off, EVERY TIME. I bought my house in May and was given the warranty. At this point I will not keep it and go with American Home Shield, I have family who has it and never heard any complaints. I was told that this company finds the cheapest people to do the job. Im fed up, I spent over $600 bucks on something that should have only been $100 if it was done correctly the 1st time. So think twice about this company, read and compare. Thanks for nothing.

We had a home warranty on our previous home, so we got it for the new house. One of our contractors recommended Home Warranty of America and it was better than the other warranty companies I encountered. One company we had filed for bankruptcy and didn’t even take care of our claims, but Home Warranty of America always came through. I signed up for their service online and it was easy. I have submitted a claim over the phone. They took my information down and e-mailed me the confirmation and the name of the contractor who would call me. Also, the contractors were all good and reliable. They came out and fixed the issue and I had one contractor that couldn’t fix it the first time, but ended up coming back and fixed it the second time. They were good on their follow-up.
However, I had a past incident when they told me that my new deductible would apply, so it went from $75 to $100. I left a message for one of their managers to call me but they never called me back. That was my only frustration. Other than that, Home Warranty of America was consistent and had been doing what they said they were gonna do, which is to pay for things that need to be replaced.

When I bought the house, the homeowners bought the first year of the warranty with Home Warranty of America. I renewed it every year online and if I wanted to add options, it's easy. Signing up with them was good and the last time, I didn't re-up because I knew they'd renew it automatically if I didn't get back to it as I was busy when they sent me a couple of things. When submitting a claim, I like talking to a person better so I tend to call on the phone. They're prompt in getting back to me with who's taking the claim and their phone number. They'll tell me to call them within 24 hours if the supplier didn't call me, although they usually do. However, I haven't had a good experience with the suppliers that they use and I get a different company everytime.
I've had several people out for the HVAC. The first guy came out then said that he has to get a part and took him several days to come back out. Then instead of putting the new part in, he put the old part in again. The air conditioner worked 45 minutes after he left and then I was out of it for another couple of days. The owner of the company came back and said that the guy was gone and that he put the new part in. I had that happen several times, even with my refrigerator. Then the guy that came out for my dryer. He used a big screwdriver to pry the top off and scratched the whole front of my dryer up. And when he left, he threw all his trash behind my dryer. I have requested different people the next time because I told them about the issues so I'd like that person not to come back and I want them to make a better choice in who they select for suppliers.

We have used Home Warranty of America for two years for our home. We have submitted smaller claims due to plumbing & garage door problems. For the most part, the smaller claims are easy. Our 20 year old AC is going bad. The technician that this company sent out says that we need a new AC unit. This occurred last week, and now when I call for updates, I am getting the run-around, with no calls back, and no more information. I am also not sure if Home Warranty of America is going to do what the technician recommended. The temperature in our home is 80 degrees, and I have small children. Despicable.

Home Warranty of America provided me good service at first. I filed the claim online but I've done it both ways before. When I file a claim over the phone I know the reps follow their script to get the information. They get someone scheduled right away and they call me back to let me know. Last year I filed a warranty claim for my air conditioner. The service provider came out and made a note on it. There was nothing he could do because the evaporator coils in the condensing unit needed to be replaced on both units in my house.
My air conditioner went out again this summer when it was 108 degrees out. Technicians came and made a repair. The repair broke the same day and it broke again three weeks later. I filed a claim for them to come back out. Home Warranty of America called the people and told them to cancel it because there were some repairs that were supposed to be made that were not covered.
I have buddies that do air conditioners and I was able to get them to come out. I ended up having to buy the parts out of my own hand and it was because the technicians didn't repair it correctly. I know what the cost was because I had to replace the actual fan blades that were tightened to the shaft. I had to call them and I still haven't heard back from them. They sent me a buyout check but it's not even enough to replace both of my air conditioners. They said that they called me twice but I never had voicemails, mail or an email from them about it. But they sure sent me an email wanting me to renew my contract with them.
I contacted customer service about the issue and I felt bad for the girls. I'm a navy veteran so I know how I can get sometimes especially when I don’t get the results that I should be getting. I apologized to her multiple times because I knew she didn't know all the answers. I was told that they would try and find the records of the voicemail that they left me. Home Warranty of America should make the repairs or pay for the repairs. I know some parts of the work aren't covered and I'm fine paying for that out-of-pocket. All I want is for them is to get back to me and give me an answer.

I’ve had Home Warranty of America for a long time and it’s nice to have that peace of mind. It is easy to submit claims and their customer service reps are the best too. You call in with a situation and they’re all over it. Then they get the people out here, give me a phone number to call and set up a timeframe. For the most part the people HWA has sent have been good. I’ve only had a couple of times where there was a bad apple. Once, the plumber decided he was going to get mad because the two pieces of pipe wouldn’t fit together and started jerking and banging on the pipes with his fists and his hands. He ripped the pipes that were working in the basement, out of the toilet upstairs and part of my upstairs bathroom.
He was a jerk or maybe he had a bad day, which happens sometimes too. At that time I escorted him out of the house and told him I was going to call the cops. He left then I shut the water off and got another guy in there who fixed it with no problems. Afterwards I took the bill down to the courthouse, filed to my Small Claims Court and told the guy he could either pay it or I’ll put a lien on his house and he was more than happy to pay me. He had taken care of all the damage he did, including the water damage. I mentioned to HWA that I did not want those plumbers out there again so when I did have another problem they had always sent a different person out.
There was another one who tried to hold me hostage. He did some work on my furnace but he had to go someplace and get the part then he said he wasn't being paid enough. But I needed heat so I paid him the difference and it was worth it. I wasn’t going to bicker over a few dollars and he was a nice guy. I’m sure HWA has a screening process too but you get those once in a while. I didn’t let that interfere with my taking the opportunity to renew with HWA though. The other people HWA sent out have all been great. And HWA even gave me a discount so I couldn’t refuse. I appreciated that and it made me feel that they thought about me. They have always been super. They have taken care of me for a long time. All I can ask is that they do a thorough job of screening the technicians they send out to us.

I sold real estate for 20 years. I never dealt directly with Home Warranty of America because I was in a different state, but I knew the value of it and they have been right there every time. When I bought our house 14 months ago, I asked the seller to provide a home warranty for me, and they chose Home Warranty of America. I would’ve paid thousands of dollars if I hadn’t had one. While there have been some glitches, it’s not enough for me to say that I’ll never do business with them. I had to have my furnace replaced within a week of moving in and we had to go through several repairs. On one of them, the repairman just put things on there. The guy that finally came out did the job right, pointed out and educated me on the filters and stuff that I had no idea was on the furnace. So, he not only fixed my problem, he educated me on how to work it properly.
I usually go online and I’ve talked to the HWA representatives a couple of times. There was only one repairman they sent out that was a real jerk. But it wasn’t Home Warranty’s fault and I called and told them about it. With my two daughters and myself in the house alone, we’re skeptical. We get the attitude of, “You’re just a woman” every once in a while. But I worked with the police department for 15 years so, I know what can and does happen sometimes. For the most part, the reps at HWA have all been great and I’ve even recommended some of them.

I'm from Houston and I moved to Austin four years ago. I bought several almost new homes from Weekly Builders that I use for lease houses. My realtor steered me onto Home Warranty of America at the closing. Since then, they’ve d called to have me renew a couple of policies I got and I told them, “No.” I had enough to last me for a while. The people they sent out a year ago which were four different guys and four different problems in the same unit in the middle of summer, they just couldn’t figure what the problem was with the air conditioning units. They changed providers and the new bunch that they gave me took over here for them and they did okay.
They went out there again and had the same problem. I’d already paid up front. I paid for the service calls since they wouldn’t cover them under warranty and I also paid for the trip out there and then the people were calling the next day and say, “I think he’s doing the same thing. It’s freezing up.” They finally went out two or three times. Same thing happened with the same house. They finally got it fixed but it took four or five trips this time to do it. It ended up costing me $1,000 out of the deal. They gave me a lady’s name here in Round Rock that lives here and represents their company. I called her on the phone. She was very nice and very sweet. She went back and did something and some of the charges kicked back and they sent me credit for it.
Three days after they fixed it, the same thing went out again and they sent another guy and they did four days with that. In four days, it went out again. These new air conditioning units are dual zone and these are two–story homes. They have a thermostat upstairs and downstairs. But the unit does something and it’s either all hot on both floors or it’s all cold on both floors. It isn’t working with the thermostat or does what you tell it to do. They replaced the thermostat and did a bunch of stuff. They were out there three times at the same house a year later and they finally got it fixed.
We had a hurricane up here and we didn’t get any water in the houses and everything’s okay so I’m happy with that. The thing that they kept telling me about this last deal, they said, “Oh, that’s not covered under your warranty.” When they send an application out, it’s 30 pages long. They always hook you on the thing about recharging the unit and that stuff used to be a dollar a can. Now it’s $200 for a recharge. They don’t pay for that anymore so the good things that used to be are not like that anymore. They’ve all changed. I don’t read 30 pages of something. I pay for it and throw it in the file. So you hear that “Oh, that’s not covered anymore. That’s gonna cost you $200 to do that. We don’t do that anymore.” I don’t like to find it out when something used to be fixed.
Another thing is you got two or three magic numbers to call them. If you try to call weekends or at night, that phone will ring for 20 minutes and no one answers and you get a voice that says all the people are busy so you finally get disgusted and hang up. That’s what happens on a weekend when you got customers unhappy and the air goes out. You can’t get the people on the phone out there. Once you get them, they assign it to somebody and then they go out the next day and usually take care of it. But getting them on the phone to turn in your claim, to talk to a real body is impossible. These homes here, one is $500,000 and the other is $600,000 so they’re not a little rent house. It’s a gated community so you gotta get people want to live there and you gotta keep things working

I’ve had Home Warranty of America since we bought our new house and so far my experience with them has been great. It is state law that warranty is purchased by the home seller and I've just extended it since then each year. I've done a few claims with HWA. I try to fix things myself first and if t looks like it’s going to be something I don’t know how to do I get in touch with HWA. Submitting claims is easy. I usually get online and do it and they send me an email telling me which subcontractor the claim was sent to and who to expect a call from. Then I hear from the company that will do the repair.
They usually come out 24 to 48 hours which I never considered too long. The technicians who have come out have been great. If it’s an easy fix then it’s $75. If not, then it’s the cost of the service minus the $75 so it has worked good. I had three claims with my AC and HWA sent the same contractor and I've been very pleased with the service level. I also had a claim with my faucet outside but since it's on the exterior of the house it wasn't covered. But then the $75 visit fee still went to it.

When I bought my house, the real estate agent recommended Home Warranty of America. Also, the previous homeowners already had it and it was in effect. I have filed claims for the water heater and the air conditioner, and my experience was good. I had to pay the $100 copay for them to come out although they didn’t have to do any repair. The appliances are still in working condition. HWA got very professional people overall.

We were looking for something better and we found Home Warranty of America, and I got the paperwork. However, they can’t bring the price back down to when we first got it, but other than that, everything’s fine.

Good Morning James,
We would like to apologize for the frustration the increase has caused. I have tried to use this warranty for the first time due to a water heater breaking and flooding my basement. I followed the steps for their claimed, super easy online claim filing. I did what was asked of me online, and was informed that I would be contacted immediately for my concern. 14 hours and a 100 gallons of water later, I have to call them. I did research on the vendor they had planned on sending, and to say the least, I would not trust these people in my home. After calling them and telling them my concern with their first vendor, they were going to send another with worse reviews. Having to call a plumber for an emergency repair is costing me more. They said they will not reimburse anything unless this plumber calls them with a crazy amount of stipulations. I have called to cancel this warranty due to it being useless, and they want to charge me to do so. All home warranties leave a lot to be desired, but this one is completely useless.

I had a horrible experience with Home Warranty of America (HWA) and the insurance service that they provided. Before the story, my claim is still not resolved yet. I purchased a home in Los Angeles, CA at the beginning of this year, the house came with HWA that the previous homeowner bought. After a couple of months that we moved in, we found that the AC was not working, there is no cool air coming out. So I called HWA on the 22nd of June, and filed a claim, they send out a contracted tech team to check on my AC, and they found that the compressor was out, so they told me they will try to get a new compressor. Then I waited over a month, and there still no response from the HWA, during the waiting, I called them countless times to follow on the update. They always replied that they are waiting on the contracted company to provide some information.
After a month of waiting, I contacted them and told them it's taking too long because the house temp is over 90 F every single day for the past month in LA. They checked something and told me that the contracted company has no response and will need to switch me a new one to help me fix my AC. And the second company said they can not service the area that I am live in. I called HWA and they gave me an option of finding my own AC company to fix. They will cover the pay. Things look not so bad at this step, but I put too much trust in HWA. I found my own AC Co. The tech came and did the diagnosis, sent back to HWA. HWA said they are working the estimate and will contact me when it's approved. I kept calling HWA and trying to get the new update, and of course the answer that I always wait. A few more weeks later, my AC Co. called me and told me that HWA has called them, and told them the estimate.
I finally saw the light, and think my AC is going to get fixed soon because I am leaving LA to the east coast at the beginning of August for a half-year long job training. Every time I contacted HWA, I always mention my upcoming training to them and let them know that I would like to get my AC fixed before I leave. Because once I left, it would be very hard for me to find time to contact time, and there is no one at home that can speak English.
So, back to the story. I called HWA the second day after my AC Co. called me, HWA told me they haven't reached any decision yet, I need to wait. Ok, more waiting. Then I left for my training. One month after, due to the hurricane Irma, my training was paused, I finally find some time to contact HWA, what I got from them was so shocked. The Rep. told me they are STILL WAITING on the management to approve the estimate. I almost lost my cool during the talk. I can't believe that it took them more than a month and still haven't reached any decisions yet.
As of today, it's almost THREE MONTHS since I filed the claim and my AC is still not fixed yet. This is unacceptable. This means there is no AC in my house for the hottest 3 months of the year. Sometimes, the temperature reaches over 100 F and a good 90s F at night, my family can not sleep at all. And it happened that 2017 is a very hot year, so we have to buy a portable AC to cool down the temperature.
I want to share my personal experience with everyone before you purchase any HWA services. This horrible experience may not happen to you, but if it does, the waiting and frustration will make you regret your purchase decision. If anyone knows if there are any ways to file a complaint against HWA service, I would be very appreciated. please let me know.

The service that I received when I submitted the claim was good. However, I had an issue because the service company which they sent filled up my air conditioning unit with the wrong freon. After four months, it failed again. When I called HWA back letting them know about the issue, it was a pain. They told me they can send the guy and I told them I didn’t want this guy anymore because he put the wrong stuff in. They told me it was between me and him. They can send him only to fix it. I went with the other company they told me to go. They had to flush my whole system and everything for over $2,000. I am trying to get my money back and HWA isn't helping me out with it.

My experience with HWA in replacing one of my central air conditioning units has been horrible. To begin with, it is been over 1 month and we still don't have the equipment needed. Their process for informing the customer on the repair process is terrible! There is not a single email or phone call to me letting me know if there is a hold-up and why, or what information they need. In my case, they required my approval for some non-covered costs, and it caused the whole process to stop until they had that. If it wasn't for me reaching out to understand a status, it would probably still be stuck. The service provider they dispatched has very little knowledge of their systems and process as well, and he can only do what they ask at nights when he is not in the field. The whole experience has been incredibly disappointing and frustrating. I would not recommend their service to anyone.

Their normal service charge is $115 an hour. I get billed $100, so I save $15. But I’m paying $50 a month for this program, so I didn’t save anything and it’s not doing me any good. And then I’ve heard from different people who worked at HVAC vendors and home warranties that they’re told not to fix anything but just patch it. So, even if it does not work, they’re not going to fix it, they’re just going to patch it. Once my year is up, I’m not renewing it because it’s a waste of money.

I like how HWA's website was laid out. It was easier to see what was included or not included in the price and it was easier for me to do my own research before choosing a provider. My lender had given me a list of four different providers and Home Warranty of America was the only one where I could see line item by line item what was covered in the cost and made it easy to add on things that I wanted to and leave out things I didn’t need instead of grouping everything. I recently renewed and that was also easy to do.
I submitted a claim once for my air conditioner and I got a response right away. The contractor came out within the week at my convenience and looked at it. He was informative and fair. It was a new air conditioner and I was unfamiliar with the sound it was supposed to make. It made a loud clinking noise when it shut off which worried me. But the contractor said it functioned fine and there was nothing wrong with it. Then I noticed all of my other neighbors have the same air conditioner and it made the same noise. I recommended HWA to somebody else because of my experience.

I like Home Warranty of America's brand, reputation, and price so I decided to pick them. I like that they engaged with me as a human being in an attempt to solve my problems, as opposed to defer them and make them my problem. They took my comments and complaints seriously and they gave me the things that I look for in customer service such as being proactive and not just some drone on the other end of the phone but somebody who actually enjoys their job.
Furthermore, the interaction of creating the claim was easy. I’ve always submitted my claims online and phone calls have been for follow ups to get status updates or provide the feedback that I felt they needed to be aware of. But the pain point for me was the time it took for the vendor and the warranty company to sort things out. There was a big delay that these vendors tell me doesn't exist if I was paying in cash because I could just go out, buy the parts, do what they need to do as opposed to having to wait for approval and going back and forth. And on several occasions, I was the one who quarterbacked it. I call the vendor, the warranty company, then the vendor again and the warranty company. If I push it, I can get things done very quickly but if I leave it set there, it will be weeks. So, it was a back-end process problem, but they are good folks trying to do the right thing.

We got our warranty from Home Warranty of America when we bought the house. I was not too happy when they replaced the water heater since my cost was a heck of a lot more than I thought. I ended up paying almost $600 for the service. The reason why I found out that the water heater was leaking was the drip pan was leaking and it dripped down and stained the ceiling. Evidently, the home warranty didn't replace the drip pan and I had to pay for that. Then, there was some other charges that they wouldn't pay for re-plumbing the water heater. Also, although I thought I had coverage for a replacement to a tank-less, I ended up getting a regular water heater. So, my understanding of that was that they would replace the water heater with tank-less and I just had to pay for the conversion. I still ended up paying $400 or $500 out of my pocket, as well as whatever they paid for the service.
Home Warranty of America are the ones that have to contact the contractor company to come out. Sometimes the length of time it takes for them to get somebody out here to do the work is an issue as well. But their reps have been courteous and helpful. Overall the repair's been good and the water heater works fine. The service was taken care of and it was paid for, so it was okay.

Home Warranty of America was already in place when we bought the house and we just carried on since then. After the first year, we thought it added value so we continued. The sales people all seem very knowledgeable. There are times that I feel like they try and push you to buy some more stuff, which I understand. That's their job. It gets a little annoying but it's all right. Submitting claims are usually pretty easy. We had them a handful of times since we've had the house over the four years and we've only had trouble twice with the claims.
The quality of work has been okay. Except for the latest that we had where the drain line on the furnace was clogged. I was told by the repair guy that he cleared that and it was fine. But it wasn't clear, it was leaking water all over my basement. It ruined my carpet, ruined some walls. I spent a night cutting holes in my dry wall and pulling off walls only to find it was the line that he told me he unclogged. I tore it apart myself and fixed it. Then I was told, "Oh, you know, drain lines aren't part of your warranty." I said, "Well, he could've just said that instead of telling me he unclogged it." Other than that, the claims were pretty good. I know they try to repair things rather than replace, which I understand.
There could be a little more transparency in what is and isn't covered. We have two furnaces in my house and one went out upstairs in the winter. I called them and they said I had two furnaces and they don't consider it as an emergency and that they'll send someone out next week. Meanwhile, I have two kids under the age of four sleeping in cold bedrooms. I was a little put off by that. But I got some space heaters and put it in their rooms anyway and they can bundle up. But aside from that, it's been okay. Having it gives peace of mind in case anything major happens, I get some coverage to back me up.

I searched around for a better price and found Home Warranty America. Signing up was an easy process. However when I submitted a claim for the water heater the guy that they used never solved the problem. He was always telling me, telling my renter, and telling the reps that because I would call them, they would call him, that he was on his way, he had to go the warehouse and get the part. If I heard that 25 to 30 times, that's not exaggerating.
When we never got resolved with HWA, it took almost a year to get the water heating done. It's all in good condition now. I had maintenance done on it and I paid for it. But I've had no issues with their reps. They have always been really nice and they've responded quickly. My complaint is the aggravation of filing the claim and they never checked on it and I didn't know that it's not done until the tenant called me and then that maybe three or four weeks later and it just dragged on that way. Besides that, it's been an okay experience overall.

This Company's purpose is to serve itself and not the home owners. I had filed a claim and I told the representative that I want to be on line to hear the conversation between them and the service person. They refused. They said that I am not to be part of that conversation. Later, I learned that they asked questions about denying the coverage and had nothing to do with what was needed to be done. SO far, They have denied coverage for compressor and condenser replacement. I am canceling my subscription. STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

I bought a house and the realtor told me about Home Warranty of America. It was easy to sign up with them for a home warranty, however they were not very easy to work with and they didn't understand the problem entailed that needed to be fixed. They were also not very good in getting back with you after the technician came out. I’m a busy person and I was waiting for them to send me a response. So I had to make the time to call them. I've had to contact them several times about our claims, which was not customer friendly.
We had a water heater that's over 20 years old. It's still working, but it made noise and it didn’t heat water quickly. I had put in two claims for that and Home Warranty said they're not going to cover it. They also did not get back to me to tell me why. I contacted the technicians who came and they just told me Home Warranty denied our claim. When I contacted Home Warranty, they couldn’t give me a definite reason why they're denying the claim. The technicians have told me that the water heater had way outlasted its lifetime. I think Home Warranty just didn’t want to replace it.
Another thing was, we have a water faucet outside of the house and it was leaking. I called somebody out on it. Home Warranty said it would be covered but it would take a lot of work to get it done, so they won’t cover it right now. That didn't make sense to me. And then, I called Home Warranty again to look at it and they said, "Oh, that's on the outside of the house. It's not covered." The faucet was outside but it's connected to the inside of the house. If the faucet was a totally free-standing type, I would understand. But it's connected to the piping inside the house. Home Warranty has gotten some things done, though. I filed a claim for the dishwasher and freezer. The technician who came out was very nice and he got the issue taken care of in one afternoon. He fixed the ice maker in the freezer. But I'm just not really happy with Home Warranty of America.

The first time I had a claim, the drain of the air conditioner was dripping from the ceiling. In my contract, I saw that the AC is covered, but it didn't say the drain was and Home Warranty of America claimed that it wasn't covered. Then the second time, that air conditioner went completely out in June. I called HWA directly and they called Sal & Al Air Conditioning back. It was over the weekend that it happened and they had no parts on their truck, but the disconnect needed to be replaced and the technician wouldn't do that. My husband tried to reason with them but none of the parts houses were open in Houston.
Instead, the technician actually cut the disconnect off so the house had no air conditioning in the middle of June when the weather was 95 degrees. He didn't have the authority to do that by me at all and he said it was unsafe. I had to hire an air conditioning man there in Houston to go on the weekends and he fixed it. I had to pay out twice and out my nose because of that home warranty. Plus, there was a $75 charge and I had to have that money before they would even look at it, but I was smart enough to use my credit card.
As far as I'm concerned, it was a scam that they couldn't fix the air conditioner either time and all it needed was a $10 capacitor and the disconnect cleaned out 'cause it had ants in it. HWA's contractor even said the AC would never work through the summer, but it's almost September now and it still hasn't broken. I wasn't happy with how HWA did me twice at all. I let them know and they finally adjusted it to where I got some of my money back. But I'm no longer with them and I would never recommend them.

When we bought the house, Home Warranty of America was part of the deal that we had. The previous owners paid for the warranty and we continued on the second year. HWA is okay but I don’t think it’s worth having a warranty company to insure anything. I literally have to read the fine print before I call them because there are so many things that are not included. It’s a little complicated because when I called them to have some HVAC work done, they sent this technician who was not experienced and he charged us over $700 for something that was not resolved. Then they had to replace the whole thing and we ended up spending over $4,000 for the new unit. So I have no idea where HWA comes in and I’m very dissatisfied with my experience with them. It has not been very pleasant and I don’t think I would want to go with them next year.

When we purchased the house, the owner had Home Warranty of America with it. If something breaks, we just call them and they send someone out. For me, it’s a security feature. So far, we've had one claim we submitted and it was for one of our air conditioning units. I called it in and the process was easy and fine. It has been a year now since the repair and the unit has been fine. And we made sure we renewed the warranty when it was up.

When my garbage disposal went out, I contacted Home Warranty of America online through email and got my claim set up. They notified me that Matrix Plumbing would be coming out and I met their guy at the house. He had the garbage disposal in a box and there were two parts inside. He asked me if I wanted him to put the top piece on there. He said that it all came together but in order to get the other top piece that connects to my sink, I had to pay him $199. I asked if it was on top of the $100 service call and he said yes, so I told him to forget it. Anyway, he put that one piece of the garbage disposal on the next day.
I proceeded at Home Depot and they charged only 90 bucks for everything so I didn't understand why the tech came out here with a box which has two parts in it, and he only put on one and wanted to charge me $199 for the other. I've been thinking about it so I called Home Warranty of America. I asked them to explain to me why that happened but they didn't fully understand. This personnel I talked to was very nice though. He said that he will get in touch with Matrix Plumbing and find out what the problem is and he'll get back with me. But I never heard back from him.
The next day, I called Home Warranty again and got a different guy. I tried to explain to him this whole scenario again and he told me that their record shows that the order was complete. I said that the garbage disposal has been replaced and my question was why didn't the tech replace all of it. He told me that they wouldn't know that until they get a report from Matrix. That was last week and I haven't heard back from Home Warranty or from Matrix Plumbing, so I'm not pleased. Somebody might be pocketing some money here.

I have never received any phone call or email about my claim. Terrible customer service. Their customer service agent was so rude. I am extremely unsatisfied. I even want to cancel my home warranty service. I don't really want to be their customer anymore. I thought Home Warranty of America covered every part of my AC unit, but apparently not. I feel that this company is just trying to rip their customers off.

My policy with Home Warranty of America came with the house when I bought it and I renew it every year because it helps. I go online to renew, which is easy to do, and I pay whenever it gets renewed. It's usually worth how many repairs I have in a year so at least we're break even. It's good to have the warranty because I don't have any unexpected cost pop up and I also have peace of mind. The year before last, the condenser coil went out on my air conditioner and that would have cost $2,000. Home Warranty of America was worth it for that situation. They also replaced the garbage disposal last time. I did everything online for that claim and it was easy. Then a guy came, fixed it and everything has been good after the repair.

When we bought the house, my realtor bought the warranty from Home Warranty of America for me and I’ve been renewing it for years. I left them once but I went back to them because I did not have a warranty at all, and it was easy to sign up again for the service. But the last service call I had was terrible, so I cancelled my warranty with them. I called Home Warranty because the rubber on my washing machine was worn. But I didn’t like the service person that came out. As soon as he walked in the door, I could tell that he was trying to find ways to say that he’s not going to fix the washer no matter what. He said that we tore the rubber on the 20 year old washing machine and that it was unbalanced, and Home Warranty denied the service.
The people that I got to repair the washer charged less than $50 to fix the rubber and replace it. The washer is still being used so I would have stayed with Home Warranty if they had fixed it. But, instead of doing that, they denied the service and let me go as a customer after all the years that I'd been with them. This happened two times so I was ready to leave them and I wasn't satisfied with them. I won't use Home Warranty again nor recommend them to anybody.

I recently just purchased a house. Along with purchasing the house a home warranty was include. Which I thought was a good thing as the freezer door would not stay closed. So, I call Home Warranty of America to have a technician come and look at the fridge. They gave me the claim number ** and I had to pay 100 dollars for technician look at the fridge. I figured what is a hundred dollars to get the issue fixed. The technician looked at the freezer door and said it look like it got bent and would need to be replaced. He said he would contact the insurance company and get the process going. He told me should be a couple of weeks for the door to get ordered and another couple of weeks before he could install it. Sounded good to me.
Then I got a phone call from Home Warranty of America telling me how sorry they are that my fridge is not working but the door is not a mechanical part of the fridge and it is not covered under the warranty. You can imagine my surprise and asked if it's not mechanical then what is it. They told me it fell under VI. Optional Coverage section A. as a interior Thermal shell. Again I try to wrap my head around that as the door is on the outside of the fridge. But no matter what I said or try to explain that it isn't an interior part but an exterior part they said they will not cover it. So, I'm either going to contact the fridge company or buy a new fridge. Stay far away from this company. They will take your money but they are not here to help you out.

I've always had good service from Home Warranty of America. They’re a very reputable company with reputable vendors. I used to have a different warranty company because when I bought the house, the owners had it and I kept it for a couple of years. But when I was having so much trouble with my air conditioner, my old company was totally worthless. So, after I finished with them, I went and transferred to Home Warranty. And I've been using them ever since.
I call them to file claims. I just tell them something is wrong and they’d sent someone out within a day or two. In the summer time, air conditioning people were hard to get out, but Home Warranty got them out here. Their reps were knowledgeable too. I had a problem when my refrigerator went out. They kept sending this old guy over that kept putting Freon in it. I told them to send someone else because I didn't know what he was doing. He would put Freon in it and a couple of days later, the Freon was gone. I was without a refrigerator for over a month. After I called back, they sent someone out. I think that one vendor didn’t want to say that we need to change the refrigerator out because it was as old as this house, which was built in 1972, and he didn’t want to pay out the bill in something that old. But Home Warranty replaced the old refrigerator with a nice one.
Most of the time, I've had pretty good contractors here, although the electricians aren’t all that great. I had an electrician out here who kept telling me that the fan in my tub was illegal and that he wasn’t going to touch it. I said, “Well, if it's illegal now, it wasn’t when they put it in.” And then the last electrician who came out hit one of my ground wires inside. He didn’t ever look at the one outside. But the problem was these two plugs on the outside are connected to the ones in the inside and that one controls the line on the inside. So I told Home Warranty to not send the last one they had out.
But I got a really wonderful air conditioner guy. The last time I had someone come out, I was told I had oil leaking with my air conditioner. I said, “Well, I'm going to call my Home Warranty and see if they'll come out and look at it.” But there wasn’t anything wrong with it. They were just trying to replace it. If hadn’t called Home Warranty, I probably would have done it. But the tech came out and he was nice and very knowledgeable and he told me I don’t need any of those things. This air conditioner is about 14 years old and it’s been running fine.
The cost has gone up over the years since I started out. It was $450 before and now, it's up to $700 a year. The service costs are going high, but it's a whole lot cheaper to call them in for plumbing than it is for you to call it in yourself to have plumber. They’ve changed the faucet and a couple of hoses under my bathroom sink, and without that warranty, I was told it would be over $100 for that. Also, I've got a new refrigerator, washer, and hot water heaters. None of their replacements have been a lower model. It’s either an upgrade or an equal model.

When I bought my condo, the seller included the warranty from Home Warranty of America for the first year. After that, I continued it. My experience with them hasn't been the greatest. It has not been easy submitting a claim. Last year, I had a nightmare because my AC unit went out. I called them every day for a month before it was fixed. I was miserable because it was in the middle of summer. I had to stay the night at different people's houses because my home was so hot. They kept sending out different vendors who couldn't agree on what the issue was. I didn't care what it was. I wanted it fixed. They kept denying things and giving me the runaround. That is unacceptable. I felt like they wanted me to pay out of pocket. I was very close to doing it, except I was scared that I won’t get reimbursed.
This year, I had an issue with my hot water heater. It's old and needed to be replaced. And the same thing happened. They kept sending me different vendors. The very first guy that came out said, "You just need a brand new one. It's old and just needs to be replaced.” And they denied it. Then they sent out another guy. All he did was turn it up to the max. He didn't drain it nor do any testing. I don't know how to fix things myself, and when somebody does something like that, it's insulting. He also made my PG&E bill increase. It took several phone calls and several different vendors before I finally got a new one. This vendor really lacks professionalism. If I'm going to pay them, then they have to fix my issue when I need them to. Otherwise, why am I paying them?
The last vendor, who brought me a new hot water heater, was awesome. He told me that he was going to recommend a brand new one. He called me back after he submitted the claim. He showed up when he said he would and did his job. Home Warranty of America needs to pay more attention to what their customers’ needs are and get them addressed in a timely manner.

The previous owner got Home Warranty of America on the house for the first year. I renewed from the year that the ex-owner had the warranty. And then we've renewed twice, so this is the third renewal. There's another warranty company being advertised on TV but the owner has to pay for the company to come out which is over $100, so I stayed with Home Warranty of America. The renewal process was easy. The time of day matters sometimes when filing a claim because it's hard to get through later in the day.
Recently, my air conditioner was getting a rubbing sound and other noises when it reaches the temperature that I set. I submitted a claim and the company that came down here didn't see anything wrong. They didn't do anything, except look at the inside unit in the garage. I don't agree with them because the unit shouldn't have the rubbing noise. That noise could be a serious problem. I called Home Warranty and they said that the guy would call me back but he never did. Home Warranty also said they'd call me to reschedule, but again, they didn't call back. They came out to get the $60 and then they don't care about the customers that much. That was two weeks ago and I've been busy, so I let it go for now.
When I called the company, there were two different people I talked to. There's an older person that answered and had a recording. And then, there's a lady in the dispatch department, but she didn't always answer. When she called back, she said to me, "When you're available." I called and left them messages on Friday but they never called me back. Another time with one other company, they came out when I had trouble with the thermostat in the winter. However, one of the employees didn't write the bill off correctly. Some of the information wasn't correct about my address. Overall, I'm not very happy with my experience since nobody called me back.

The realtor that sold us this place also signed us up with Home Warranty of America and this is my third year renewing the coverage. It's easy to renew, but it's not always that easy to get them to pay. When my garage door opener quit on me, I called Home Warranty and they sent a man out and looked at it. He said that it might be caused by a power surge, so they refused to pay the claim. Then I told him that it sucks because I paid nearly $600 a year for the service and I had to pay out of pocket for a new garage door opener. Also, $600 a year is a lot of money for a person thats retired and I'm not happy for them to deny payment even if they were not exactly sure why the garage door opener quits.
Then last fall, we were coming up on the first really bad cold snap and the blower motor of my heater on the house went out. It took them forever to approve the new repairs and it took two weeks before they got it fixed because they were dragging their feet. So the only reason I renewed it this time was because we had added the garage door opener and the refrigerator because that would be a good expense if those go out. Also, the other people that have been out to do repairs said that they're better than the ones that are out there, which means the others are even worse.

We’re not very happy with Home Warranty of America and I don’t think we’ll renew it next year just because I feel like they have a lot of contradictory verbiage in their contract. They have things set up so that they appear to cover things that they don’t cover and the things that they do and don’t cover really don’t make sense. They have the warranty set up so that they don’t have to pay full price for anything that goes wrong.
For instance, our air-conditioning unit went out and the evaporator coil failed, which is the part underneath the house. Because of regulatory requirements, if you have an old air-conditioner and one part fails, you have to replace the whole thing but they will only cover the evaporator coil and not the outside part. But if your outside part failed, in order to make the inside part compatible, they would replace those. It didn’t make any sense. They won’t allow you to replace the unit with pieces that aren’t compatible so they make you replace the whole thing at your own cost.
Also, their customer service process is not very efficient. Every time I call, I get put in touch with somebody different so I have to get that new person up to speed on every conversation I've had thus far even though they have notes in their system. Then they have to go away and ask internally for advise on the next step and they either will call me back or won’t. If I call them back, I have to call someone new and get them up to speed again. I probably did it with eight different people during the process that we had for the claim. It's understandable that you get people at varying levels of experience, but when you keep getting passed, it’s kind of annoying and very time-consuming.

The company they use was out in Dallas and it was going to be two or three days before they can come out because it was the middle of summer and they were busy. It was hotter than blue blazes, so we had a local guy come out instead. The problem happened to be a capacitor and it didn't take them long to fix it. Then I faxed the bill to Home Warranty of America and they were really good about reimbursing me. I just wish Home Warranty of America had somebody closer.

My niece told me about Home Warranty of America and how they had been good to her and what they did when she didn’t know about a lot of stuff like appliances when she first bought her home. I signed up and everything went smoothly. The rep explained everything to me and how it works. They were also very helpful and explained to me a lot of stuff that I didn’t know about. It’s been a while since I submitted my last claim and it was a really nice experience too. They told me they called different places that I can use and asked whichever one was more convenient for me. I told them which one it was and they gave me the number to set up the appointment. They also told me how much I had to pay when the techs do come out.
That claim was for an old furnace which is no longer being made. It couldn't be repaired and so I got a new furnace. The techs also fixed my refrigerator. I also submitted a claim for my stove but they couldn’t repair that because that part was not made here and they couldn’t get the part. So, what Home Warranty did was they gave me a check for my stove to get another one. It's a very good program and everybody should get it.

Home Warranty of America assigned my claim to a plumbing company that's out of business and when I called them about it the rep just said, "Oh, okay. Thank you," and then they forgot it all. I also upgraded to include some other features this year and I was supposed to get a $50 restaurant certificate. When I first called back about it the rep said I was supposed to get it in 46 weeks. I asked if it was going to be the standard amount and she said she didn't know and I was supposed to get an email from Restaurants.com so I waited. When I called back another rep told me Home Warranty of America wasn't doing that anymore. So it was a bait-and-switch deal. I've used them two other times and they have been fine. But the bad incidents I've had are aggravating and I'm very unhappy with them.

I was impressed with the price of Home Warranty of America. I signed up online and it was an easy process. We had the same problem twice with our heater and air-conditioner and had to get somebody out on two different occasions. The first time was hard because it took four days for us to get somebody. But the second time was better and it only took two days for somebody to come out. The tech from Louisburg was very professional. Everything has been fine since then and we haven't used Home Warranty of America since last summer.

My realtor recommended Home Warranty of America. The sales representatives were nice but I have a problem with Home Warranty of America as a company. Whenever I have a major issue, there are not enough service people to cover my area. I tried to submit a claim but they couldn’t get a person out and I ended up doing it on my own. So it defeated the purpose of having the warranty. Home Warranty of America is not prepared for service calls and needs to step up their game in those departments.

Home Warranty of America is a good service. Everything is automated so instead of calling to file a claim, I just get online and it automatically assigns someone and tells me who it is. Then I call the contractor directly and schedule the service with them. We had a bad experience a couple of years ago where some AC guys showed up. So now, any time they assign a company, I'd look the company up online and if they have bad reviews, which in the past, I've called Home Warranty of America and asked them to send someone else because of bad reviews. It has happened once or twice already and they're good at working with a consumer and were quick to do it too. However, their fee used to be $75 and then it went up to a $100. But other than that, I'm happy with Home Warranty of America and I'd recommend them.

My experience with Home Warranty of America has been mediocre. Their sales representatives are pushy. I was trying to get a claim filed and all anyone wanted to talk to me about was renewing my contract which happened automatically because they already had my credit card. It was almost like they were threatening to not file my claim if I didn't renew my contract. When I submitted a claim they didn't fix it and gave me a settlement for a fraction of what the appliance was worth. I'm still with them only because it auto-renewed and it was too hard to get it canceled.

Horrible, horrible experience with HWA. We knew our A/C units were 13 years old when we purchased our home, thus our realtor included a home warranty to protect us (or so we thought). Even though our "platinum" plan claimed to cover A/C, when a unit went out and needed to be replaced, they would only cover $300 (yes, three-hundred) toward a brand new unit costing roughly $4,000. Ridiculous! They "cover" A/C, but what they don't tell you is that literally every single part possible related to an A/C unit is excluded in the fine print. So they don't truly cover your A/C if it goes out completely, even though they say they do.
Check out the attached image asking us if we want to renew. Here they even tout covering A/C when that's the farthest possible thing from the truth. Reporting them to the Better Business Bureau as well. After calling roughly 20 times, we still had received no resolution so had to go through our realtor's rep instead of customer service and threaten to call our family lawyer. Even still, we only received payment for half of the new unit so were out of pocket $2,000. That's a lot to cough up for an A/C when you aren't expecting it and think you are covered. Just want others to learn from our terrible experience. We now have Home Shield instead and so far so good. Home Shield showed us the contracts side by side in comparison and HWA essentially excludes 4 or 5 x what Home Shield excludes.

We manage about 130 properties and I'm using Home Warranty of America for 99% of them. The reason we went with them actually boiled down to price. Plus, we believe in them and we'd much rather that the owners pay $60 to fix something versus $6000. Signing up for services online has been very easy too and we also have an assigned rep who oversees our account. I like that and HWA has made it very easy for us. We get a little preferential treatment for our claims and if it’s an iffy claim, they will help us out and typically cover it. We have a bad boy list for the technicians and we make sure those ones aren't assigned to any of our properties, but the ones they do assign are fine. Home Warranty of America has got a good system going.

We were very happy with the service we received through Home Warranty of America. They were very courteous, on top of everything with any question I had to ask or any issue that came up. I submit a claim over the phone and it was very easy to do. They give me the name of the contractor that will be sent out and then give me a timeframe that the contractor should be contacting me. Then Home Warranty lets me know what the deductible is on my policy and if I have any problems, I call them back. The contractors they sent out have all been great. They've shown up on time, they've called, they were very courteous, and the issue gets taken care of. Everything goes accordingly and I've been very impressed so we continued to stay with them. I've also recommended Home Warranty of America both through my Realtor and to other friends that have purchased homes.

My son had coverage with Home Warranty of America and he referred me. At that time, I had another one - Home Shield but they weren't right, so I let them go and I'm glad I went with HWA because of their monthly payment. However, I have to pay $75 when they come out and do something, but then, if they don't have the right technician, they keep on until they get the right one for you. One thing that could be improved though is if they had more than one person in Montgomery who could come out because they only got two contractors here. On the other hand, what impressed me about HWA was that when they're going to do something, they do it. With them, you don't have to keep on calling. Also, when someone calls and says they're coming, they come.

My daughter is a realtor and she recommended Home Warranty of America. Their sales reps were great. We used HWA for two of our rentals. But, we had a little bit of problem with some of the vendors, particularly the AC people. They just signed up just because they wanted the business. They’re not the top tier kind of people that are responsive and know what they’re doing. One problem we had was when the outside unit needed to be replaced, my tenant sat over there in July for two weeks without AC. They had to first try to figure out what was wrong and it took him a week to figure it out. And then the tech had to go through HWA to get the okay and then they wanted to order the parts through their service. Whereas, if you had a regular AC person, they’d probably have it in stock. So, she had to wait an extra week while they ordered the unit to put in there.
She was not happy and we ended up having to give her a rebate on her rent that month because of the trouble she had. It was really hot last summer so I don’t blame her for being upset. I was on the phone with HWA every day wanting to know when is the unit going to be delivered and when can we get it set up. It seemed like it took too long. We just didn’t have a lot of luck with them. My daughter who’s the realtor had the same exact issue at her personal house and she called someone to come and fix the AC and they got it in there the next day. They did save us money when we finally got the new outside AC unit put in. It only cost us less than $100 including the fee.
We had really good luck with the plumbers though. We had plumbers come out a few times and fixed the problem. They were also very responsive. They even told us that they won’t close the claim until Monday so that I can be sure everything’s working fine. They all seemed to be great. The only reason I cancelled my contract was because we got a property management company and they don’t work with Home Warranty of America. However, it would be a good service for people that don’t know who to call for things to just give them a call and have them come and send somebody to their personal home.

The realtor signed me up with Home Warranty of America and I've had several claims for the last 10 years. However, they don't have a lot of choices for specific services. I had to have a septic tank pump and they couldn't find one. But I found one in the phone book after one phone call. Then I had to pay for it out of my own pocket and submit to Home Warranty the bill. After that, I got a check from them minus the $75 that they charged me. I also use Home Warranty for plumbing but because of their reputation in the area, there are very few plumbers that will use Home Warranty. I had a very bad experience with the plumber that they sent. He was more interested in getting me to not tell Home Warranty what he was charging and not charging. If I ever had a plumbing problem again, I have to go outside to find somebody, then submit the bill and wait to get it paid.
When I first moved in here, I had a plumber that didn't know his backside from the telephone pole if I hadn't told him to get out of here. When I called Home Warranty back later to tell them not to send this guy, he showed up in an old beat-up truck working out of the back of his station wagon. I had to get somebody else. Anybody I talk to out there is difficult to deal with.
When we had to have my hot water heater change out and it was a big reaction from them. The recirculating pump is part of the hot water heater system when I have one installed. A recirc pump starts the hot water heater and continues to circulate hot water through the pipes. So when I turn the water on, I have instant hot water. The plumber that came told me that they can't disconnect the recirc pump because it's not covered under a warranty. I called Home Warranty and they said that they cover replacement of the water heater, but they don't cover disconnecting the outlet to a circ pump. How are they going to replace the hot water tank if they don't connect the piping as installed? So, I had to pay the extra myself since they don't want to do it. When this home warranty expires, I want to look for somebody else.

We got Home Warranty of America at the closing of the house and we've renewed with them every year. I usually call to submit claims and sometimes they take a little longer to get somebody out whom we prefer because they don’t necessarily use somebody locally in Columbia. I’ve had them for so long and they cover the most important article I have. It's adequate but not seamless. I wish they had a few more coverages that they don’t have.

First International, our company, has its properties covered under Home Warranty of America. Our interactions with their sales representatives have been very good. We had one problem since working with them but our local salesperson had worked it out. When they send the claim number, there's something there that says we can file the claim online but I’ve never been able to do that successfully. I would really like to get instructions because we have about 12 properties that are under contract. It would be a lot easier submitting a claim when we know how to do that.

Home Warranty of America should speed up the claim process a little bit because it's inconvenient being out with something. I’ve called them about the stove and it took a little while to get it replaced. They called a couple of different people and nobody came out until after almost a month. Then it was another three weeks before they got the replacement. In the end, it was resolved and they took care of everything.

All Summer of 2017 we have had issues with our HVAC unit and each time we have contacted Home Warranty of America. The work has been completed, but HWA will only approve band-aid fixes. So far we have had 5 visits in the last 5 months and now we do not have AC, again. The claim center personnel tell you that they have set up vendors and find vendors have quit contracts with HWA. We are currently in day 5 with no AC. I had to send my elderly mother in law and daughter to a relative's home for this time due to the heat in the house. I do not recommend HWA to anyone.

I continued the policy from Home Warranty of America which came from the people who I bought the house from, and I already have made five claims to them in the last five years. All have been very positive and the appliances that were repaired or replaced are working fine. The warranty is very useful particularly in the case of the house and with the appliances that came with it. Their promptness has been very good especially last year when the air conditioning went out and I had house guests. We're in Texas and we were having 100-degree weather. That was quite a scary situation and it could have been disastrous but the customer service person was very understanding and the whole experience turned out positive.
